:01:00. > :01:08.turned but trust me, we have a sensational Saturday evening in
:01:09. > :01:20.store. We have had a great time so far, with highs, lows, emotion and
:01:21. > :01:33.drama. But the party has not ended yet. Headline acts are still to
:01:34. > :01:36.come. And the biggest star of all is on the block stash Usain Bolt. -- is
:01:37. > :01:59.on the blocks, Usain Bolt. The rain has been falling all day in
:02:00. > :02:07.Glasgow. The track at Hampden is drenched. They are doing their best
:02:08. > :02:12.to remove the water. Rollers and all sorts of things. At present, the
:02:13. > :02:18.athletics is on time, but field events have been delayed by 45
:02:19. > :02:27.minutes. We are hopeful. Knowing Usain Bolt, he could win in his
:02:28. > :02:33.wellingtons. Then again, in the relay, you never know. Usain Bolt
:02:34. > :02:41.and Jamaica are favourites to take the gold medal. Adam Gemili,
:02:42. > :02:49.silver-medallist in the 100 metres, leads the England line-up. It is the
:02:50. > :02:59.Williams team on Jodie and Bianca who lead the way for England in the
:03:00. > :03:06.women's 100 metres relay. Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is expected to win gold
:03:07. > :03:09.with her Jamaican team. 2006 triple jump champion Phillips Idowu is back
:03:10. > :03:18.and hopeful of winning a gold medal again. And in the women's 5000
:03:19. > :03:27.metres, the rising staffer England, Emilia Gorecka, has a medal in her
:03:28. > :03:48.sights. -- rising star. This is how your Saturday night looks.
:03:49. > :04:01.Usain Bolt goes in the latter relay. We will also bring you diving with
:04:02. > :04:06.Tom Daley. When we go to BBC Two, we will concentrate on boxing. Amir
:04:07. > :04:14.Khan will join us for that. Next, athletics, featuring the women's
:04:15. > :04:22.5000, men's 1500 metres and the relays. Usain Bolt later, as well.
:04:23. > :04:27.Just to say if you want to watch Tom Daley in the 10m platform diving, it
:04:28. > :04:33.will be live on BBC Three just before 7:30pm. The boxing finals
:04:34. > :04:38.continue from now until 10pm on the red button. Let's get to Hampden for
:04:39. > :04:44.the athletics. Gabby Logan. Tom Daley, if he hung around for a
:04:45. > :04:50.view more hours, he could be diving into some of the wells of water that
:04:51. > :04:56.have built up. It is a damp and grey and windy Hampden this evening,
:04:57. > :05:02.which is a shame, because it has managed largely to stay dry. We have
:05:03. > :05:07.seen fantastic performances. Let's hope it does not inhibit those. The
:05:08. > :05:14.field events have been delayed by 45 minutes. They will hope to get going
:05:15. > :05:19.with the pole vault and triple jumper. To further dampen the
:05:20. > :05:25.spirits, we have to start with negative news. Amantle Montsho, she
:05:26. > :05:33.was the Olympic champion and came second last year in the tussle with
:05:34. > :05:38.Christine Ohuruogu. She has tested positive and she will have a second
:05:39. > :05:44.sample tested next week in London. Any drug story that comes to a major
:05:45. > :05:49.championship with an athlete of her credentials is disappointing, but
:05:50. > :05:53.she has been at the forefront of fantastic races with Christine
:05:54. > :05:58.Ohuruogu. It has come as a shock. She has been one of the faces of the
:05:59. > :06:06.Commonwealth Games coming into this and it was announced today that she
:06:07. > :06:11.tested positive today, for a substance which I think is a
:06:12. > :06:17.stimulant, a diuretic, used in some diet supplements. It will rather
:06:18. > :06:23.bleak come with a shorter band. In the past, people who have failed
:06:24. > :06:27.tests for that, it has been a six-month ban. They have two test
:06:28. > :06:35.for it because it can be used as a masking agent. We do not know what
:06:36. > :06:40.the situation was here. We do not know anything beyond what was
:06:41. > :06:45.announced. I was trying to find more information. That is the issue with
:06:46. > :06:50.sport. Once that happens, regardless of which sport, it will take you for
:06:51. > :06:54.the rest of your career and it should. That should be the warning
:06:55. > :07:01.to the athlete, you are responsible for what you put in your body. And
:07:02. > :07:07.she will wear that cloak now, that she has tested positive. It is a
:07:08. > :07:12.negative that will follow her. It does not leave. It is awful for her
:07:13. > :07:20.and for the sport. The drugs issue needs to be sorted out. Onto more
:07:21. > :07:24.positive things. The women's 5000 metres. The athletes are being
:07:25. > :07:32.announced. It does not look like it is raining. Gorecka, she is the
:07:33. > :07:40.future of distance running in this country. The European Junior 3000
:07:41. > :07:45.metres champion last year. Jo Pavey also going and Helen Clitheroe. It
:07:46. > :07:51.should be a good race. We can get down to the track with Steve Cram
:07:52. > :07:58.and Brendan Foster. Steve Cram: Laura Whittle just being
:07:59. > :08:07.introduced. The rain is holding off. Brendan and I looked across and
:08:08. > :08:13.there is black cloud, looking as if it is ready to descend on Hampden.
:08:14. > :08:18.Most of these runners will be used to the conditions, maybe not the
:08:19. > :08:26.Kenyan is as much, but they have a good cross country background. Janet
:08:27. > :08:32.Kisa is one of three pretty good Kenyans. People will look to them in
:08:33. > :08:36.terms of medals. This young lady is having a big season, Jessica
:08:37. > :08:43.O'Connell from Canada. The Canadians have done well with middle and long
:08:44. > :08:48.distance athletes. Mercy Cherono, the silver-medallist last year at
:08:49. > :08:55.the World Championships in Moscow, she will be the favourite. Emilia
:08:56. > :09:03.Gorecka, a big talent, 20 years of age. Representing England. She is on
:09:04. > :09:12.the inside. Jo Pavey and Helen Clitheroe, two England's greatest
:09:13. > :09:21.athletes. Beth Potter also going. It is great to see Stephanie Twell. She
:09:22. > :09:28.had a brilliant Commonwealth Games in Delhi, winning in the 1500
:09:29. > :09:39.metres, and medal. -- winning a medal. Three for Scotland. Three
:09:40. > :09:46.going for England. And the three Kenyans, who will be the ones who
:09:47. > :09:50.will undoubtably be the ones everybody is looking to. I should
:09:51. > :09:55.have mentioned Sarah Murcier of Guernsey and Elinor Kirk running for
:09:56. > :10:04.Wales. Brendan, perfect running whether! Perfect distance running
:10:05. > :10:10.conditions. We have had the rain. They have swept the track. It looks
:10:11. > :10:15.OK on the inside. These runners setting off on the journey, 12.5
:10:16. > :10:20.laps. It looks fairly pedestrian at the moment. The England team on the
:10:21. > :10:30.outside. Jo Pavey, and very familiar sight. We have two 40-year-old is
:10:31. > :10:37.running together. And on the inside, the 20-year-old, Emilia Gorecka. You
:10:38. > :10:41.could not learn from to better athletes. They have been medallists
:10:42. > :10:50.in the Commonwealth Games. Helen and Jo Pavey. Helen was silver-medallist
:10:51. > :10:55.behind Kelly Holmes back in 2002. Jo Pavey looking comfortable, back into
:10:56. > :11:00.action after the birth of her second child in September. Getting ready to
:11:01. > :11:06.go again on the roads and in the country and on the track today. She
:11:07. > :11:12.was chosen for the 5000 and 10,000, but she chose just the 5000. The
:11:13. > :11:17.three Scottish athletes in the group, Beth Potter, Stephanie Twell
:11:18. > :11:27.and Laura Whittle. The pace is fairly easy. The experienced Helen
:11:28. > :11:29.Clitheroe decides you do not get many chances. She has decided to
:11:30. > :11:35.Clitheroe decides you do not get move it along because it was so
:11:36. > :11:41.slow. I wonder, when you look at the events that have been held here so
:11:42. > :11:51.far. This is the penultimate distance event. The men's also this
:11:52. > :12:03.evening. Janet Kisa is less experienced on the track. Margaret
:12:04. > :12:15.Muriuki, she has only run one 5000 this year. Interesting selection
:12:16. > :12:22.from the Kenyans. And now, for other runners, there might be a medal. Jo
:12:23. > :12:27.Pavey likes medals and will be happy to be amongst it. Mercy Cherono is
:12:28. > :12:30.the favourite. She is the outstanding athlete. She is quicker
:12:31. > :12:38.than the others and was medallist in the World Championships last year.
:12:39. > :12:45.There are not many better than her. The group, you can see they are
:12:46. > :12:51.beginning to pull away. Helen Clitheroe, very experienced. Doing
:12:52. > :12:56.the 1500 metres, as well, I remember. And she ran the
:12:57. > :13:00.steeplechase. She has had a great career. Still going strong. Jo Pavey
:13:01. > :13:03.has renewed again, and she wants another go at the marathon.
:13:04. > :13:05.career. Still going strong. Jo Pavey has renewed again, and she wants But
:13:06. > :13:16.I still think there are medals available in this race. Janet Kisa
:13:17. > :13:21.is leading Mercy Cherono. Mercy Cherono has had a good season. I
:13:22. > :13:27.watched her at the beginning of the year, 3000 metres, a superfast race
:13:28. > :13:35.for the beginning of the season. She was narrowly beaten that night. That
:13:36. > :13:40.time, 8.21, it showed the form she would bring to the summer season.
:13:41. > :13:45.She has been running well. Mercy Cherono, her worst race might have
:13:46. > :13:49.been her last one coming into these championships. All of a sudden, the
:13:50. > :13:56.best athlete in the field decides enough is enough. And off she goes,
:13:57. > :14:07.Mercy Cherono. She is followed by her team-mates. You can understand
:14:08. > :14:10.Mercy Cherono. She knows these athletes and she knows she has the
:14:11. > :14:18.beating of them and she has decided I am going to run like I am going to
:14:19. > :14:22.run. The distance runners, they train on the track, run repetitions,
:14:23. > :14:29.sometimes five laps, occasionally more, but a new injection of pace.
:14:30. > :14:37.Jo Pavey has decided to do something about it. She has to chase it she
:14:38. > :14:42.wants the medal. Emilia Gorecka, the European junior champion, following
:14:43. > :14:47.behind, Jo Pavey encouraging her. Letting her come through. The pace
:14:48. > :14:51.that was injected down the back straight by Mercy Cherono has been
:14:52. > :15:02.given away. She has slowed down. The field has caught up. 69 seconds, the
:15:03. > :15:08.lap. The slowest lap was in 83, that was a 69, and off she goes again.
:15:09. > :15:14.She can play with the field. I think Mercy Cherono has a lot to spare,
:15:15. > :15:17.even with her team-mates. She might not be doing her team-mates a favour
:15:18. > :15:22.because she would want them to go away. Particularly Janet Kisa, who
:15:23. > :15:29.might come under threat from anybody else, if she is not on form. She is
:15:30. > :15:46.the third of the Kenyans. Just ahead of Jo Pavey. The Canadians have come
:15:47. > :15:47.here and done very well. Jessica O'Connell has had a big
:15:48. > :15:48.here and done very well. Jessica O'Connell has had a personal best
:15:49. > :15:51.this year, she has jumped forward. O'Connell has had a personal best
:15:52. > :15:55.this year, she has jumped Sometimes athletes have years like that, then
:15:56. > :16:02.they can come here, like Emelia Gorecka, improving, learning the
:16:03. > :16:06.5000 metres. That group will want to work together to try to make sure
:16:07. > :16:11.based day in contact with the third of the Kenyans. The Canadians have
:16:12. > :16:18.one more goal stun England in the track and field. We only have two
:16:19. > :16:25.more individual events left, and England, for the first time since
:16:26. > :16:29.1958, not one English runner has one and individual gold medal in the
:16:30. > :16:35.Commonwealth Games. It is time to have a look and think about which
:16:36. > :16:41.runners were missing, we are only missing Mo Farah. They have done
:16:42. > :16:45.well at the field events, but only the second time since the
:16:46. > :16:49.Commonwealth Games began that the English runners have not won a gold
:16:50. > :16:56.medal yet. I do not see them winning in this event or in the men's 1500.
:16:57. > :17:01.Five pulling away. Jo Pavey and Anna Louise Wellings. A gap to Emelia
:17:02. > :17:07.Gorecka and Jessica O'Connell. Emelia Gorecka working really hard.
:17:08. > :17:15.This is really good running from Jo Pavey. What a story this would be.
:17:16. > :17:24.They are lapping the first of the runners. We saw in the men's 10,000,
:17:25. > :17:32.it can be an issue in the latter stages. Mercy Cherono following her
:17:33. > :17:39.team-mate. Margaret Muriuki is the leader. Janet Kisa in third place.
:17:40. > :17:45.Then, Jo Pavey and Eloise Wellings. These five have a ten metre gap in
:17:46. > :17:49.front of Emelia Gorecka. Jo Pavey is running well, her confidence is
:17:50. > :17:54.increasing. Emelia Gorecka running very well. The European junior
:17:55. > :18:00.cross-country champion, she has got a bright future. This is a good
:18:01. > :18:07.introduction for her. She is looking down the track, she can see the
:18:08. > :18:11.experience of Jo Pavey. They are not going to outfox her. She looks
:18:12. > :18:18.comfortable and smooth. I do think there is a medal here. It would be a
:18:19. > :18:23.great story if she could snatch a medal. Mercy Cherono will be the one
:18:24. > :18:31.to beat. The other Kenyans are not the best in the world. Jo Pavey is
:18:32. > :18:35.getting the boost in confidence. I am surprised that there are only
:18:36. > :18:39.five in the group, because the pace is not that fast. It would be
:18:40. > :18:42.personal best territory for Emelia Gorecka, around 15 minutes, they are
:18:43. > :18:55.running that now. Given that the first 1000 metres was
:18:56. > :18:59.so slow, you would have thought that maybe one or two others would have
:19:00. > :19:03.taken the risk, but it is Jo Pavey and Eloise Wellings with the
:19:04. > :19:09.Kenyans. The pace will pick up again. But it is great to see Jo
:19:10. > :19:13.Pavey there, what a career, 1500 metres, flirting with the marathon
:19:14. > :19:19.as well. She knows how to race. When she is fit and healthy, the one
:19:20. > :19:24.thing you could always say about her, she knows how to race.
:19:25. > :19:30.Absolutely right. She is doing it again today. I am looking round the
:19:31. > :19:36.stadium, there are lots of Scots people, and an awful lot of English
:19:37. > :19:42.people. You can see the English fans unfurling their flags and starting
:19:43. > :19:48.to wave them. Red-and-white flags around the place, and loads of blue
:19:49. > :19:54.ones. Beth Potter leading the Scottish contingent. Laura Whittle
:19:55. > :20:01.there. Steph Twell is struggling. Elinor Kirk of Wales going through.
:20:02. > :20:04.It is tough out there, it has been a long slog. 12, these last few
:20:05. > :20:20.years, since that horrific injury. A long way behind. The leading group
:20:21. > :20:26.is forging ahead now. The last lap, it has slowed down a little again,
:20:27. > :20:30.which will play into the hands of the kickers, and whether or not Jo
:20:31. > :20:35.Pavey has got the sort of place that can win her a medal. Galloway 's
:20:36. > :20:44.Wellings will be a danger. She is looking fairly comfortable. Look at
:20:45. > :20:47.Jo Pavey, determination on her face, she looks at the school board, which
:20:48. > :20:54.tells how there are three laps to go. She hits the front for the first
:20:55. > :21:00.time. A great inspiration. She is having a go. She knows her strength
:21:01. > :21:14.is her biggest asset. She wants to test them, she wants to run as a
:21:15. > :21:23.three. She is working very hard. The St George flags flying all over the
:21:24. > :21:27.pace. Remember, Mercy Cherono, she was the World Championship silver
:21:28. > :21:31.medallist last year. Jo Pavey has been a European silver medallist and
:21:32. > :21:39.a Commonwealth silver medallist. A yard or two opening, come on, Jo
:21:40. > :21:47.Pavey. Let's hope she can get a medal. Could it be a gold-medal? It
:21:48. > :21:52.is brave rate -- running from Jo Pavey, she is putting pressure on.
:21:53. > :21:58.Look at Eloise Wellings, looking stronger. Janet Kisa is moving up.
:21:59. > :22:06.Margaret Muriuki still looks comfortable. Two laps to go. Jo
:22:07. > :22:10.Pavey leading the 5000 metres final. Eloise Wellings just beginning to
:22:11. > :22:15.look as though this is becoming hard work for her. It is about turning
:22:16. > :22:22.the screw, building the pressure, trying to get rid of them, one by
:22:23. > :22:28.one. 700 metres to go. She responded when she saw that there were two
:22:29. > :22:31.laps to go. That is 800 metres, that is what you do on the track when you
:22:32. > :22:39.are preparing for this. She is settling down. Here comes and Louise
:22:40. > :22:48.Wellings. Is Mercy Cherono waiting? 600 metres left. Jo Pavey has too
:22:49. > :22:52.many athletes around her. Jo Pavey will try to dig in, but look at
:22:53. > :22:57.Eloise Wellings. It is not a good sign that Jo Pavey is looking
:22:58. > :23:02.behind. It will be the bell. Mercy Cherono looks very comfortable.
:23:03. > :23:07.Margaret Muriuki knows she has got to get into place. Jo Pavey is not
:23:08. > :23:13.giving this up, she is not going to let them burn it up without giving
:23:14. > :23:20.get at least one more try. Jo Pavey at the front again. What an
:23:21. > :23:24.inspirational run. She is testing the Kenyans athletes, she wants a
:23:25. > :23:29.medal. There is a medal available, keep driving. Mercy Cherono is
:23:30. > :23:36.waiting. I wonder why she would not attack earlier. Jo Pavey, 40 jurors
:23:37. > :23:44.old, she is an inspiration to all of the British distant runners. But she
:23:45. > :23:50.has three Kenyans for company. There goes Mercy Cherono. This crowd of
:23:51. > :23:54.roaring Jo Pavey on, can she hang onto one of them? Can she give
:23:55. > :24:02.herself a chance? They are kicking away. She will not give it up. Jo
:24:03. > :24:11.Pavey is still hanging on. 40 years of age, can she get their? Here she
:24:12. > :24:17.comes! Mercy Cherono will win the gold medal, but look at Jo Pavey!
:24:18. > :24:26.Come on, Jo Pavey! She is going to be OK, a bronze medal. A brilliant
:24:27. > :24:28.performance. Mercy Cherono is a great champion, she was the
:24:29. > :24:39.favourite, but who could have believed that Jo Pavey would stir up
:24:40. > :24:42.all of the old memories, give us all something to cheer about? For
:24:43. > :24:48.everybody sitting at home who has probably thought, my days have gone
:24:49. > :24:56.by. Not Jo Pavey. She decided not to run the 10,000 metres, what a good
:24:57. > :25:02.decision. Concentrate on the 5000. She had a go at 800 metres, then
:25:03. > :25:06.they came past her. She had a go at 400 metres, they came past her. But
:25:07. > :25:12.she did not give up. A brilliant run. Jo Pavey, an inspiration to so
:25:13. > :25:21.many. Laura Whittle has said, how did you do? For Helen Clitheroe and
:25:22. > :25:26.Jo Pavey, they have been such stalwarts, they have won medals in
:25:27. > :25:31.the past, she was wonderful at the Olympic Games, and any legal reckon
:25:32. > :25:36.will have her day. That might be one of Jo Pavey's best runs of her
:25:37. > :25:44.career. Not the quickest in terms of producing personal bests, but what a
:25:45. > :25:49.gutsy run. Steph Twell crosses the line. You love that, like I did. It
:25:50. > :25:55.was fantastic. Mercy Cherono what the class athlete. She waited and
:25:56. > :26:03.waited. Have we ever been more inspired by a distance race ban
:26:04. > :26:11.that? Jo Pavey collecting the flag, I told you there were lots of St
:26:12. > :26:17.George flags. She is soaking up the cheers and the pride. That was
:26:18. > :26:21.absolutely fantastic, I loved that. Mercy Cherono is a class athlete,
:26:22. > :26:27.you could not see anybody beating her, but Jo Pavey, you thought she
:26:28. > :26:34.had it at times. You would not want to finish in fourth place at the end
:26:35. > :26:37.of that. She has deserved every single ounce of that. How many
:26:38. > :26:43.people are getting their running shoes on at home? Wait until we have
:26:44. > :26:49.seen the 1500 metres, then go out for a run. If Jo Pavey can do it,
:26:50. > :26:57.she is such a star. We love her, well done. There will be a lot of
:26:58. > :27:05.tears. I bet her husband Gavin and her coach, he gets as emotional as
:27:06. > :27:10.anybody does. He will be somewhere, and her son, Jacob. He should be
:27:11. > :27:17.very proud of his monster night. Paula, that might give you some
:27:18. > :27:22.inspiration! Absolutely, that was brilliant, I am so pleased for her.
:27:23. > :27:25.She has been here before, she has won a silver medal before, but that
:27:26. > :27:32.will mean the most, because she worked hard. She judged it
:27:33. > :27:36.perfectly, she went to the front, she injected a bit of pace, but she
:27:37. > :27:41.did not put all of her effort in. She kept a bit there. I am sure she
:27:42. > :27:45.took a lot of energy from the crowd tonight. We could feel it when she
:27:46. > :27:50.hit the front the first time, and when she went again just before the
:27:51. > :27:56.bell, they really got behind her. She was not going to give up on the
:27:57. > :28:02.medal. Do not forget, she started out as a 1500 metre runner, I
:28:03. > :28:08.remember racing against her when we were 14. She said the English
:28:09. > :28:15.schools record. She did not come late in her career. She has had a
:28:16. > :28:19.very long career. The big thing about her, she loves racing and she
:28:20. > :28:24.loves going out there. You ask how long she will keep doing it, she
:28:25. > :28:29.says, as long as I can stay competitive and as long as my family
:28:30. > :28:33.do not mind the sacrifices. Gavin is so supportive of her. And the
:28:34. > :28:43.children. It is working at the moment. She is allowing the field to
:28:44. > :28:50.come past her. We were hoping she was not tired, that she had not
:28:51. > :28:54.given her whole effort, but she made a smart move, she was giving herself
:28:55. > :29:01.a bit of breathing space to gather herself. Mercy Cherono was playing
:29:02. > :29:04.the field. She could have won this race however she pleased.
:29:05. > :29:06.herself. Mercy Cherono was playing the field. She could have But Jo
:29:07. > :29:10.Pavey ran the smartest race to give her the chance of picking up a
:29:11. > :29:14.medal, and here she goes. At the bell, back into the front, and you
:29:15. > :29:21.can hear the role of the crowd. Mercy Cherono gathers herself. Janet
:29:22. > :29:28.Kisa and Margaret Muriuki responded. Eloise Wellings is struggling now to
:29:29. > :29:31.maintain contact. Jo Pavey is digging deep, she knows they are
:29:32. > :29:38.queueing up behind her. She will be aware of that. At this minute, she
:29:39. > :29:48.is saying, let them come by. Get in behind as much as you can, gather a
:29:49. > :29:52.bit of energy from the crowd, and she is probably thinking about Jacob
:29:53. > :29:59.and Emily, I would think. They are probably here, she wants them to be
:30:00. > :30:02.really proud. She knows how much sacrifice they have all put in. It
:30:03. > :30:10.is great to see her kicking like that. The pace is still there when
:30:11. > :30:13.she wanted badly enough. I really thought she was going to go right
:30:14. > :30:18.through into the silver medal position, but she could not quite
:30:19. > :30:25.get there. She could not quite get back to Janet Kisa. A thoroughly
:30:26. > :30:41.deserved bronze medal. I am really happy for her. For Jo Pavey it has
:30:42. > :30:47.been a long journey over the past few years. When you start a family,
:30:48. > :30:53.her daughter is the youngest, sometimes your athletics... There is
:30:54. > :31:04.Gavin. Well done coach, well done husband! Gavin and Jo Pavey have
:31:05. > :31:07.been a great team together. Sometimes you think, is it worth
:31:08. > :31:16.it? Shall I keep going? I am so pleased for her. When you were
:31:17. > :31:20.watching on the last lap. There were three Kenyans ahead. She lost three
:31:21. > :31:24.yards. She could have easily given up and thought, I have run pretty
:31:25. > :31:28.well and come home in fourth, that is not too bad. But she was
:31:29. > :31:38.desperate for a medal and she deserved a medal. And that is her
:31:39. > :31:41.happy son Jacob. They have done a great job as a team, Jo Pavey and
:31:42. > :31:48.Gavin. These are moments you will never forget.
:31:49. > :31:56.Inspiration on so many levels. We talk about Emilia Gorecka, the
:31:57. > :32:03.future. Jo Pavey can do what she wants. If she feels she can run like
:32:04. > :32:07.that, 41 next month, we might see her for a few seasons more. What
:32:08. > :32:14.inspiration for anybody who thinks they might be passed it, there you
:32:15. > :32:18.go, you are not. A little girl, not even one yet. Anybody who has had a
:32:19. > :32:22.baby in the past year will appreciate it takes a lot to get
:32:23. > :32:30.yourself back will stop if you are inspired, go to the BBC sport
:32:31. > :32:35.website. There are lots of details on how you can join clubs in a range
:32:36. > :32:41.of sports near you. It is well worth visiting. We are inspired by that
:32:42. > :32:48.performance. What a fantastic last couple of laps, Michael? To hang in
:32:49. > :32:54.the way she did. I do not know anything about 5000 metre running
:32:55. > :32:58.but I am sure that was smart from a tactical standpoint. Taking the lead
:32:59. > :33:03.and being out there and having the Kenyans comeback, it is
:33:04. > :33:08.disheartening will stop to wait until she came out on the stretch,
:33:09. > :33:13.knowing exactly how much she had left, very smart tactics. Good on
:33:14. > :33:19.her. That was fantastic and certainly inspiration. Denise Lewis:
:33:20. > :33:27.We have come through the ranks together, English schools, the
:33:28. > :33:30.junior age group together. It is so admirable and courageous when
:33:31. > :33:38.someone decides to carry on for the length of time she has and pick and
:33:39. > :33:44.choose. She found her real niche. It is the grit and determination. It is
:33:45. > :33:51.the sacrifices that makes her such a popular character. She is so funny.
:33:52. > :33:59.Paula Radcliffe: She is not just mother to Jacob and Emily, the girls
:34:00. > :34:04.out there, Steph, Emilia, they will take advice and is narration. She is
:34:05. > :34:08.going for both in the European Championships and another big chance
:34:09. > :34:14.to pick up a medal over 5000 and 10,000 metres. She is intending to
:34:15. > :34:21.double up at the European Championship 's, which begin next
:34:22. > :34:27.week. We can head over to the start of the 1500 metres, the men's. We
:34:28. > :34:33.have a double winner on the commentary team, Steve Cram. He won
:34:34. > :34:39.in 1982 and 1986. It is always a good opportunity to look in the
:34:40. > :34:44.archives and see Steve Cram in Brisbane, running away from the
:34:45. > :34:52.field for the gold medal. Hopefully we will be able to see 1986 as well.
:34:53. > :35:06.Doubling up, he did the 800 and 1500. Paula? Absolutely. I am sure
:35:07. > :35:18.he will have opinions about the race that is to come. I am interested to
:35:19. > :35:21.see how Ronald Kwemoi will perform. I can never tell whether he is
:35:22. > :35:29.delighted or embarrassed when we look at the archives.
:35:30. > :35:33.I hate being reminded about the race in 1986 because John Gladwin almost
:35:34. > :35:38.caught me by surprise, which is why I look relieved when I finished. A
:35:39. > :35:48.good race tonight with a good British contingent. This man, you
:35:49. > :35:53.saw the great John Walker in the archive footage. Nick Willis has
:35:54. > :36:02.taken his 1500 metres record and has a chance of a medal. He is a former
:36:03. > :36:09.Commonwealth champion. That was one of his team in the crowd. Johan
:36:10. > :36:12.Cronje. He has been collecting South Africa records, as well. Julian
:36:13. > :36:25.Matthews, the other athlete from New Zealand. In 1974, the great athlete
:36:26. > :36:43.who broke the world record, this man is from the same country. And
:36:44. > :36:49.Kiplagat Magut. And one other good athlete, Ronald Kwemoi. That is
:36:50. > :36:56.Ronald Musagala from Uganda. Chris O'Hare, from Scotland, Charlie
:36:57. > :37:00.Grice, from England, two of our great talents at this distance,
:37:01. > :37:08.competing in the common wealth games final. On the outside, the big
:37:09. > :37:12.threat. Ronald Kwemoi, watch out for him. He has been taking the world by
:37:13. > :37:25.storm recently. A massive improvement, coming out of nowhere.
:37:26. > :37:28.Like Lynsey Sharp yesterday, do not be frightened, do not be scared,
:37:29. > :37:35.there might be the chance of a medal. On the inside, Chris O'Hare,
:37:36. > :37:38.he might have excelled in the indoor circuit in the United States, but he
:37:39. > :37:47.grew up on the cross-country circuit in Scotland. Days like today, he is
:37:48. > :37:55.used to, and he is running today in the blue riband event of the
:37:56. > :38:02.Commonwealth Games. 1954, Roger Bannister won it. Since then the
:38:03. > :38:10.greats have won it. Including Dave Moorcroft. Steve Cram has won it
:38:11. > :38:14.twice, in two great performances. This is an event you would like if
:38:15. > :38:26.you can get it. Today will be tough. Difficult to win medals. The leader
:38:27. > :38:36.through the first 400 was Ronald Musagala. A decent pace but it has
:38:37. > :38:41.slowed. Kwemoi is strong, only 18, but he has shown great assurance in
:38:42. > :38:47.the Diamond League circuit. Johan Cronje sensing it is slowing, moving
:38:48. > :38:56.up. Charlie Grice, checking in a little bit. He needs to be careful.
:38:57. > :38:58.Nick Willis. He knows where to be, he is an experienced Commonwealth
:38:59. > :39:05.Games champion, Olympic silver-medallist. Young Chris O'Hare
:39:06. > :39:10.knows where to be. He is right behind Nick Willis. He is tracking
:39:11. > :39:15.him and that is not a bad decision to make. If he can stick in there,
:39:16. > :39:21.he will not be too far away. That is the first move. Still not too
:39:22. > :39:31.excessive. There goes Johan Cronje on the outside. It creates panic
:39:32. > :39:37.behind. Kwemoi and Magut, they are leading at the moment. Nick Willis
:39:38. > :39:42.is looking for a room and starting to worry a little bit. Chris O'Hare
:39:43. > :39:48.might want to think about where he is. Charlie Grice in a better
:39:49. > :39:52.position as they take the bell. There are too many people there the
:39:53. > :39:57.comfort. The Kenyans are in a line and you will have to come from a
:39:58. > :40:04.long way back will stop Charlie Grice and Chris O'Hare, trying to
:40:05. > :40:10.get some space. Johan Cronje is not giving up. Charlie Grice is running
:40:11. > :40:17.a good race, but it is anybody's. Ronald Kwemoi hits the front. Chris
:40:18. > :40:24.O'Hare of Scotland, around the top bend. Nick Willis is nowhere for New
:40:25. > :40:31.Zealand. Johan Cronje, chasing down Kwemoi. Chris O'Hare is coming. He
:40:32. > :40:38.looked behind, Kwemoi. Nick Willis, he has surely left it too late. He
:40:39. > :40:49.will win? It is Magut, of Kenya. It is a Kenya 1-2. Magut, he wins from
:40:50. > :40:54.Kwemoi, the youngster. If I was the New Zealand team management and in
:40:55. > :41:00.Nick Willis's camp... Charlie Grice gave it his best, but Nick Willis,
:41:01. > :41:05.look where he is in the replay with 200 to go. What was he doing? He can
:41:06. > :41:12.finish quick and he finished quicker than anybody, but he could not catch
:41:13. > :41:18.Magut. He must be wondering what he did. Did he let a title slip through
:41:19. > :41:24.his fingers? He is experienced, he will be happy with the bronze medal,
:41:25. > :41:30.but did he miss a chance to beat the two Kenyans? It was an interesting
:41:31. > :41:35.race from every point of view. Nick Willis, a previous champion,
:41:36. > :41:39.interestingly, we thought he had a chance today, but he was never in
:41:40. > :41:45.contention. He could not win from where he set off to be. He ran a
:41:46. > :41:51.sensible race until 600 metres to go and then he let it go. The
:41:52. > :41:59.silver-medallist from Delhi has not done a lot since then, Magut. Kwemoi
:42:00. > :42:03.was not able to handle it. We thought he would be the winner. An
:42:04. > :42:10.interesting race. Three Kenyans in a line. Now you have decisions to
:42:11. > :42:14.make. Nick Willis is starting to make bad decisions. Chris O'Hare, of
:42:15. > :42:21.Scotland, not in a great place. Charlie Grice ran sensibly and gave
:42:22. > :42:27.himself a chance, but you have to go past them, go wide, travelling, and
:42:28. > :42:30.when they travel at speeds you have two injectable pace. I thought Nick
:42:31. > :42:36.Willis came as one of the favourites. He is now in eighth on
:42:37. > :42:41.the inside, not doing anything. Johan Cronje has a go and Charlie
:42:42. > :42:46.Grice is hanging on. Still Chris O'Hare is coming. At this point
:42:47. > :42:51.Chris gives them too much of a start. He is in fifth and is roared
:42:52. > :43:00.on, he knows how to sprint, and suddenly, when they sprint, travels
:43:01. > :43:09.too far. Johan Cronje in between the two. Kwemoi thought he had won it.
:43:10. > :43:15.Nick Willis is fourth. He is so lucky that Johan Cronje was giving
:43:16. > :43:20.up and slowing down. I think Johan Cronje should be disappointed with
:43:21. > :43:25.that performance. There goes Kwemoi. I thought he could win it from here.
:43:26. > :43:34.Johan Cronje ran well. Nick Willis, look at the gap. And here comes the
:43:35. > :43:38.winner. Magut, of Kenya, the silver-medallist from Delhi turns it
:43:39. > :43:50.into a gold medal on a rainy day in Scotland. Nick Willis was lucky
:43:51. > :43:54.there. Kwemoi will continue to contest major championships. He
:43:55. > :43:58.takes the silver medal. And again on the rostrum, Nick Willis. It is a
:43:59. > :44:08.good bronze for New Zealand but he was so close. Chris Gowell of Wales,
:44:09. > :44:13.finishing 10th. Eight good race. A Kenyan 1-2, again. -- it was a good
:44:14. > :44:26.race. The men's javelin final is about to
:44:27. > :44:39.start. The two men at the top are the favourites. Walcott is the
:44:40. > :44:45.Olympic champion. The Welsh man, Lee Doran, looking to get in amongst
:44:46. > :44:49.things. We can have a quick look back at the lead qualifier.
:44:50. > :44:54.Something significant happened. This is the man who became the youngest
:44:55. > :45:02.ever throw to become Olympic champion. This was the qualifying
:45:03. > :45:04.from yesterday. He absolutely launched 85 metres, a
:45:05. > :45:06.from yesterday. He absolutely launched 85 metres, lifetime best
:45:07. > :45:31.and national record. He goes into the final certainly as favourite.
:45:32. > :45:35.throwers. Difficult conditions here this evening. You can see the wet on
:45:36. > :45:41.the floor. It has been a wet afternoon. And a delayed start for
:45:42. > :45:47.the throwers. The man who learned to throw by watching juju. Technique
:45:48. > :46:04.looking solid. The rest have got to follow that.
:46:05. > :46:19.So, this is the man who threw that big throw in qualification. Oh, no.
:46:20. > :46:33.Just seemed to pull away from that. It is not quite as far as he threw
:46:34. > :46:43.yesterday. He will take the lead with that.
:46:44. > :46:52.So, one of three Australian javelin throwers, the man from Tasmania.
:46:53. > :46:58.First attempt. Again, a powerful throw. Not so good on the approach.
:46:59. > :47:08.It looked like all upper body strength and power there. The
:47:09. > :47:13.Tasmanian might like these conditions, a similar climate to
:47:14. > :47:16.Scotland, down in Tasmania. He is an 82 metres man at his best. He goes
:47:17. > :47:31.into second place. Another great final about to start,
:47:32. > :47:36.men's triple jump. Phillips Idowu, took a step back from the event last
:47:37. > :47:45.year, he is back. Joined by Nathan Fox and Nathan Douglas. And here he
:47:46. > :47:52.is, the first attempt for Phillips Idowu. He has been training in
:47:53. > :47:57.Australia. He did 16.70 in qualification yesterday, and looked
:47:58. > :48:04.very good. This looks committed. It is. But was it good on the board? I
:48:05. > :48:09.am not sure. Yes, it looked as though he had encroached on the
:48:10. > :48:13.plasticine, and he had. Many had written off Phillips, but he is
:48:14. > :48:18.back. I tell you what, this man is a fighter. Olympic silver medallist, a
:48:19. > :48:25.world champion in the past, and he has won this event. 70 metres is
:48:26. > :48:36.likely to be needed, and he has started off with a foul Mac.
:48:37. > :48:44.GABBY LOGAN: We are getting ready on the track for the women's four x
:48:45. > :48:55.400m final. Christine Ohuruogu is part of the England team. And that
:48:56. > :49:00.is asked, in the studio. Just a quick line on Christine. Just
:49:01. > :49:08.wondering, she will have heard the news about Montsho today. She did
:49:09. > :49:13.run a 51.56 split. What would she have made of it, and will it be on
:49:14. > :49:17.her mind? It will not be on her mind, she will be just disappointed
:49:18. > :49:28.that, yet again, athletics is having another drug issue. She is so
:49:29. > :49:31.respected in the team. She is now running the first leg, instead of
:49:32. > :49:58.the fourth leg, in the heats. She will just want to get on with her
:49:59. > :51:58.job. A quick line, Paula, on that 1500m. We it will be difficult to
:51:59. > :52:12.catch. Christine Ohuruogu. She is not running back quickly. She has
:52:13. > :52:23.been finding form recently. It is difficult to see who is out in front
:52:24. > :52:33.at the moment. Bahamas got off to a terrible start. Christine Ohuruogu
:52:34. > :52:43.has done well in the rain. Bahamas came through quickly at the end. It
:52:44. > :52:55.is going to be anybody's game. Jamaica, you could almost hand the
:52:56. > :53:02.gold medal to them. England, they have daylight between themselves and
:53:03. > :53:10.the rest. She is flying through a curtain of rain. Very strong running
:53:11. > :53:20.from Regina George the Nigeria. She might tire. She is holding on
:53:21. > :53:31.strong. Jamaica, out in front. Anastasia Le-Roy taking it. George
:53:32. > :53:39.getting in the way of England. The Australians have England in their
:53:40. > :54:03.sights. The battle is being fought at the front. Nigeria not giving it
:54:04. > :54:04.straight to Nigeria. What a challenge Nigeria are throwing down
:54:05. > :54:07.here. What a run from Benjamin! challenge Nigeria are throwing down
:54:08. > :54:11.here. What a run from Benjamin! She may give Nigeria the lead. But it is
:54:12. > :54:17.the gold medallist for Jamaica, Stephanie O'Hare, who has it. And
:54:18. > :54:21.here goes Anyika Onoura, for England. England at the moment, with
:54:22. > :54:24.a decent lead over Australia. Morgan Mitchell has it for Australia, a
:54:25. > :54:33.semifinalist in the individual event. But what a battle out front,
:54:34. > :54:36.with Jamaica now hitting the front. Jamaica trying to restore the
:54:37. > :54:42.natural order, with Stephanie O'Hare. England, a long way back in
:54:43. > :54:46.third at the moment. It is a battle for gold and silver, through the
:54:47. > :54:51.teeming rain on this Glasgow evening. It is Stephanie O'Hare,
:54:52. > :54:55.told medallist in the individual, for Jamaica. The Nigerian is trying
:54:56. > :55:00.to close, but Stephanie O'Hare has judged it well. It is going to be a
:55:01. > :55:05.second gold medal for her, and gold for this Jamaican quartet. Nigeria
:55:06. > :55:15.takes over. England come through to take the bronze. It pretty much went
:55:16. > :55:19.according to script. But the time for Jamaica, a new Games record. As
:55:20. > :55:27.we look at England celebrating their bronze medal. But Jamaica, what a
:55:28. > :55:32.powerful quartet it was. A new Games record, taking the record of
:55:33. > :55:36.Australia, which was set in Manchester in 2002. We thought
:55:37. > :55:40.nobody would get close to them, but Nigeria did, for a few moments. They
:55:41. > :55:49.take the silver, and England get bronze.
:55:50. > :55:53.STEVE CRAM: We will be with the girls shortly, but there was another
:55:54. > :55:56.medal to celebrate, it was in the 5,000m, and what a performance it
:55:57. > :56:02.was from Jo Pavey. She is with Phil Jones.
:56:03. > :56:08.Jo Pavey, congratulations, what a race, what a performance. Yes, it
:56:09. > :56:12.feels a bit surreal. I did not believe I got a medal. I had to look
:56:13. > :56:18.at the scoreboard. I cannot believe it. It was such a gutsy race from
:56:19. > :56:21.you - you went past them once, they came back past you, you went past
:56:22. > :56:28.then again, and still you did not give up the fight! Yes, I tried to
:56:29. > :56:34.think, just don't regret this. The Kenyans are so good, but I thought,
:56:35. > :56:38.no, keep focused and just try and beat them! My husband, my little
:56:39. > :56:43.boy, my little girl, my mum and dad, and all my family. Everybody that
:56:44. > :56:52.has helped me, the physios and everything. The list is endless. I
:56:53. > :56:58.cannot believe it, I am so happy. The joy of being here in Scotland,
:56:59. > :57:01.so close to home for you, is that all your family can be here,
:57:02. > :57:06.including your son? Yes, it is really special. I am sure my little
:57:07. > :57:10.girl will be watching as well. We debated whether to bring her but I
:57:11. > :57:15.was well each would be terrified, because she is only ten months old.
:57:16. > :57:18.Such a lovely atmosphere, and having the crowd so close, to be able to
:57:19. > :57:24.give your family members a hug when you finish, it is a real bonus. I
:57:25. > :57:30.did not know how realistic it would be to go well, but I wanted to do as
:57:31. > :57:35.well as I could. I just wonder where this ranks, with all of the medals
:57:36. > :57:39.you have won, in the Europeans, the Commonwealths, and the Olympics,
:57:40. > :57:43.over the years? This is really special. To think that I am 40, and
:57:44. > :57:49.I am a mother, with two young children, with a ten-month-old
:57:50. > :57:53.baby, it seems almost funny to me! All the support I have had, it has
:57:54. > :57:59.really allowed me to do it. It has been a tough summer, because at the
:58:00. > :58:05.track, they are really helpful, but it has been shut all summer for
:58:06. > :58:08.resurfacing, in Exeter, so the people in Yeovil and Plymouth have
:58:09. > :58:16.been really helpful in letting the train. I did not think I would get a
:58:17. > :58:24.medal just did unbelievable. You have been an inspiration to mums all
:58:25. > :58:31.over the world, I am sure! Yes, and good luck to all running mums! Crowd
:58:32. > :58:36.has been awesome, it is such an awesome Games. I feel very
:58:37. > :58:40.fortunate. Thanks a lot. ANDREW COTTER: Well done to Jo
:58:41. > :58:46.Pavey. Well done to the Jamaicans 4x400m quartet. Kenya and Jamaica
:58:47. > :58:51.still slugging it out at the top of the athletics medals table. England
:58:52. > :58:58.taking the bronze medal, behind Nigeria. As sometimes happens in the
:58:59. > :59:02.4x400m, the changeover can be tricky. You have got tired
:59:03. > :59:07.athletes, and the Nigerians, a couple of times, unwittingly, were
:59:08. > :59:10.getting in the way a little bit of the English athletes. Not here, this
:59:11. > :59:16.was fine. This was the first changeover. I can tell you about the
:59:17. > :59:21.splits, they were even for the English athletes. We can see Regina
:59:22. > :59:26.George coming in for Nigeria. It happens sometimes, Steve, doesn't
:59:27. > :59:31.it? Yes, you are not allowed obviously to deliberately impede.
:59:32. > :59:36.But the athletes are tired when they finish. I do not think there is
:59:37. > :59:42.anything deliberate. It is part of 4x400m running that you have got to
:59:43. > :59:46.avoid the incoming athletes. I am sure Michael will agree. Absolutely,
:59:47. > :59:49.nothing deliberate. But I am sure people at home are wondering if
:59:50. > :59:53.something could be done about this. There needs to be something in the
:59:54. > :59:58.rules, better organisation by the referees down on the track, to
:59:59. > :00:02.explain to those runners before they go out what the protocol should be,
:00:03. > :00:05.so that they are not impeding people. I have seen people getting
:00:06. > :00:09.hurt and injured in that type of situation.
:00:10. > :00:19.ANDREW COTTER: And this is something Michael never had to worry about,
:00:20. > :00:22.because he was about 100m ahead. The splits pretty even for the English
:00:23. > :00:28.quartet, and that is what brought them home to a bronze medal. A good
:00:29. > :00:31.race between Jamaica and Nigeria. Stephanie O'Hare, Gold medallist in
:00:32. > :00:54.the individual, bringing Jamaica home.
:00:55. > :01:01.is Julius Yego who we saw throw in the first round. He is powerful. Can
:01:02. > :01:10.he do this in his third round? Yes, he can. Julius Yego, the javelin
:01:11. > :01:15.comes out of your hand at about 70 mph and you can see it with the
:01:16. > :01:20.naked eye. It was coming out of his hand quicker than everyone else. It
:01:21. > :01:27.took him three rounds to get there, but Julius Yego looks as though he
:01:28. > :01:36.may have gone into the lead. The Kenyan would there. He takes the
:01:37. > :01:46.lead. Triple jump them. The South African. Very successful in the long
:01:47. > :01:56.jump, he is focused on the treble. This is his second attempt. He kept
:01:57. > :02:03.his speed at a high level through all three phases. Was not sure about
:02:04. > :02:11.it. Looked very close to what may have been his lifetime best from
:02:12. > :02:16.2005. Look at Mokoena looking at the measurements at the side. He knows
:02:17. > :02:34.it was good. A seasoned's best and Mokoena is in the lead. -- a
:02:35. > :02:44.seasoned's best. Can Phillips Idowu respond? He has a superb
:02:45. > :02:48.Championship history. That looked better on the board, flat through
:02:49. > :02:53.the jump phase, that was the difference between those two jumps,
:02:54. > :02:59.I would suggest. Good through the hop and step, but almost collapsed
:03:00. > :03:04.into the job. Ten centimetres behind. Watch this, good through
:03:05. > :03:12.their, he keeps it going and does not get out into that jump. The
:03:13. > :03:22.height we saw from Mokoena was not there. He is in fifth place. A medal
:03:23. > :03:32.ceremony in very an Australian Weddle. White from Canada there. She
:03:33. > :03:38.took the bronze medal -- weather. All the rest were racing for scraps
:03:39. > :03:51.if you can call a bronze medal a scrap. Two women went into it as
:03:52. > :04:00.favourites above the rest. It is the silver medal for England. She had
:04:01. > :04:04.high hopes of gold after beating the eventual winner a couple of times
:04:05. > :04:11.coming into this race but could not quite do it last night. The woman
:04:12. > :04:40.who is about to be introduced was a in periods. -- was a victorious. --
:04:41. > :04:57.again. Tiffany Porter there defending her title -- Tiffany
:04:58. > :05:14.Porter. No more fitting woman to do it than Sally. It is time for a bit
:05:15. > :05:36.of advanced Australian fair inside Hampden Park. -- Sally Pearson.
:05:37. > :06:18.Australian National Anthem. So much talked about the bombs in
:06:19. > :06:23.her preparation, but she got over it all. -- about the troubles. Sally
:06:24. > :06:45.Pearson. We are still in the second round of
:06:46. > :06:58.the triple jump final and look at Tehran. Here is the second attempts
:06:59. > :07:07.-- the rain. Oke is the defending champion and he looks like he means
:07:08. > :07:26.business. Terrible conditions, but it is Beth Potter is biting through
:07:27. > :07:37.that rain. -- macro Oke. -- Tosin Oke. He is in second place. The rain
:07:38. > :07:43.is not letting up. It is not the kind of weather that we are used to
:07:44. > :07:51.seeing. This is Glasgow and we have been blessed so far. We have had
:07:52. > :07:54.some unseasonal weather. It is only fair that we finish with what is
:07:55. > :08:04.traditionally a bit more Scottish weather. We are building up to the
:08:05. > :08:07.four x 400 m relay and on paper there are four or five of those
:08:08. > :08:13.quartets who will feel they can get into the medals. They all can. This
:08:14. > :08:19.should be an exciting final, because there are a lot of evenly matched
:08:20. > :08:24.teams. England is in it. With the rain, it will be miserable out
:08:25. > :08:30.there, but they will have to put that behind them and hopefully we
:08:31. > :08:36.will not see any change of problems. The rain can be dangerous.
:08:37. > :08:45.England has a good chance, Trinidad will be tough, the Bahamas have a
:08:46. > :08:51.good team, they are extremely experienced. Chris Brown is great.
:08:52. > :08:58.Some of the teams have changed their line-ups, the Australians have
:08:59. > :09:07.changed. England have added in a different runner. Jamaica have
:09:08. > :09:12.brought in two more new people. A bit of a change, Jamaica is strong,
:09:13. > :09:20.but I think the Bahamas are the favourites. Scotland is in there.
:09:21. > :09:23.The roar that we have become used to hearing when Scotland have any
:09:24. > :09:32.athletes in these events will be there. Scotland are not expected to
:09:33. > :09:51.get themselves amongst the medals. They will have a difficult time. It
:09:52. > :09:56.will be a long start -- a long shot. The relay, it is difficult to judge.
:09:57. > :10:08.Everyone looks like they are really far out there. Very difficult to
:10:09. > :10:13.judge the pace. Do you think because of the slight tobacco in the
:10:14. > :10:21.women's race, especially the Nigerian athletes -- slight
:10:22. > :10:27.problems. Their management should have gone through the protocol. They
:10:28. > :10:35.know when they reached the 200 mark they know where they should be. --
:10:36. > :10:39.reach. We were talking about it there, this is going to be one of
:10:40. > :10:48.the most exciting races of the evening. It is so tight. The fact
:10:49. > :10:57.that the bat is wet, that will add excitement. Scotland could have a
:10:58. > :11:07.chance here. Let us hand you down to Steve Cram. I would not write
:11:08. > :11:17.Scotland off. Scotland have a good team. The England team, Martyn
:11:18. > :11:27.Rooney concentrating on the European Championships. Conrad Williams is
:11:28. > :11:42.leading off very strong team from Trinidad. Is this Jamaican team good
:11:43. > :12:02.enough to content here. The consulate -- Zambia are in Lane 2.
:12:03. > :12:13.They came through as the fastest loser stop --. There is Robertson
:12:14. > :12:38.who will be leading off for Scotland. Grant Plendleith in here
:12:39. > :12:41.as well. Anything can happen. The Bahamas have got such experience.
:12:42. > :12:47.Michael Bingham waiting to go for England. With Chris Brown on the
:12:48. > :13:00.last leg, have they got the ace card? The relay final. Because of
:13:01. > :13:10.the excitement elsewhere in the stadium, field events taking place,
:13:11. > :13:15.just at the other end, it has meant that the rowers from the crowd have
:13:16. > :13:22.upset the start of this race and quite sensibly, the starter asks
:13:23. > :13:28.them all to rise. Australia are the defending champions, they do have
:13:29. > :13:36.some good new talent coming through. I am not sure that they will be able
:13:37. > :13:55.to hang on to the gold medal here again. The starter waits for quiet.
:13:56. > :14:00.Hampden Park roars its approval as the relay gets underway with
:14:01. > :14:04.Scotland on the inside. As Michael was making the point, the Steiger
:14:05. > :14:10.means you have to judge this correctly. Williams in the light
:14:11. > :14:16.blue and yellow of the Bahamas, chasing down Nigeria. Australia have
:14:17. > :14:23.started well, Conrad Williams for England is running well as is Gordon
:14:24. > :14:37.in the all read of Trinidad and Tobago. Very slow start from Jamaica
:14:38. > :14:46.and Gauntlett. It goes on to Michael Bingham. For Scotland, it is Grant
:14:47. > :14:54.Plendleith. Scotland are in a reasonable position, but England are
:14:55. > :14:59.out in front. A real attacking moves by Michael Bingham. Trinidad and
:15:00. > :15:06.Tobago with Solomon sitting behind him. Scotland are trying to chase
:15:07. > :15:13.Australia. It is England in the front, Michael Bingham will be
:15:14. > :15:17.coming down. Bahamas are back in this wet Russell on the last two
:15:18. > :15:36.legs and Chris Brown, they will be difficult to beat. What a good race
:15:37. > :15:47.we do have. Quow has pulled out. Australia are not out of it.
:15:48. > :15:49.Scotland are making ground. The Bahamas are fighting hard. What a
:15:50. > :16:01.race we have on our hands. Rooyen on Olamgoke Olumide Olamgoke
:16:02. > :16:06.Renny Quow will be handing over to Hewitt on the last leg. Daniel Awde
:16:07. > :16:14.will be giving it to the new British sensation, Hudson Smith. What can he
:16:15. > :16:18.do?! Trinidad, England, Bahamas, surely between these three for the
:16:19. > :16:24.gold medal. Scotland have moved ahead of Australia. Hudson Smith,
:16:25. > :16:42.Iran sub-45 in this Glasgow stadium just a couple of weeks ago. Has he
:16:43. > :16:47.got the strength in the rain? Hudson-Smith goes again! Can he hold
:16:48. > :17:06.on?! Brown comes back. Here comes Hudson-Smith. And he leans for
:17:07. > :17:15.golden! What a run. Guts, talent, he made it. They know he made it. They
:17:16. > :17:25.look up at the screen. Williams, Daniel Awde, Michael Bingham, and
:17:26. > :17:31.Matthew Hudson-Smith. What a really, really great race. And you know, it
:17:32. > :17:35.is about the balance of the team, getting it right, putting the right
:17:36. > :17:39.people on the last leg, and it was an inspirational decision, really,
:17:40. > :17:45.to put a hungry young man on the last leg. But he had to be good,
:17:46. > :17:50.because Chris Brown is one of the best at closing a race. But he could
:17:51. > :17:55.not quite close it that time. I really thought he was going to get
:17:56. > :18:01.there, I thought Hudson-Smith had gone too early, but he kept just
:18:02. > :18:06.enough, and he was like a tall piece of timber leaning for the line as it
:18:07. > :18:13.approached, and he was strong enough to hang onto the gold for England.
:18:14. > :18:17.ANDREW COTTER: It was a second kick, we have seen it so many times.
:18:18. > :18:22.Hudson-Smith looked like he had given just a bit too much early on,
:18:23. > :18:33.but Chris Brown was hunting him down. Hudson Smith, just coming down
:18:34. > :18:39.the home straight, it was an astonishing second effort from him,
:18:40. > :18:46.just to hold off Chris Brown. This point, it was a very good lead-off
:18:47. > :18:49.for England from Williams. He put Michael Bingham in a very good
:18:50. > :18:54.position. But we knew it was going to be a good race. Michael Johnson
:18:55. > :19:03.was saying that these squads, four of them, at least, are very evenly
:19:04. > :19:09.matched. Renny Quow taking it on. This is the final position, where
:19:10. > :19:18.Hudson-Smith takes it on. Hewitt had gone very well in the heats. But
:19:19. > :19:23.this was as good a 4x400m as you will see. It was a real race. Coming
:19:24. > :19:27.down the back straight, when he makes his move, you think, that is
:19:28. > :19:36.going to cost him later on, he will pay for it. Chris Brown is watching.
:19:37. > :19:51.Chris Brown, and you wonder if it is the crowd giving him that extra
:19:52. > :20:00.lift? And then he responds. And what a response it was.
:20:01. > :20:12.STEVE CRAM: Well, he and the team will watch that over and over again.
:20:13. > :20:18.MICHAEL JOHNSON: I think all of us up here said, no, not yet, when he
:20:19. > :20:22.started to make that move! He has got a very, very long stride. And we
:20:23. > :20:28.are saying, no, don't do it! But he did make a Far East mart move to get
:20:29. > :20:38.back inside, to get on the curb, so that you can take the shorter run.
:20:39. > :20:43.But he still looks very, very relaxed, at that point, Matthew.
:20:44. > :20:48.Chris Brown, this is when he is on his way, but he took too much to try
:20:49. > :20:52.to chase Matthew, and now, the monkey just jumps on his back and he
:20:53. > :20:58.is going backwards. So basically what happened there is, Matthew took
:20:59. > :21:03.the veteran, Chris Brown, out of this race, and took him out of his
:21:04. > :21:09.own strategy, and made him run HIS race. And England comes away with
:21:10. > :21:12.the victory. The young man, starting to smile, he knows that he has won
:21:13. > :21:18.it. That is great, that is fantastic.
:21:19. > :21:25.Well, I can give you the splits. Williams, a very good, solid first
:21:26. > :21:30.leg. Michael Bingham, very solid, Daniel Awde, very impressive. But
:21:31. > :21:44.the style of the show, 44.7, Matthew Hudson-Smith. He did not even need
:21:45. > :22:00.windscreen wipers, did he?! He is a talent. Let's tidy all of
:22:01. > :22:04.that up. It is gold for England in the 4x400m relay. The Bahamas,
:22:05. > :22:11.pipped on the line. Trinidad Tobago take the bronze. Jamaica were
:22:12. > :22:17.forth. Scotland, a really good performance, to finish fifth. Zambia
:22:18. > :22:21.were disqualified. STEVE BACKLEY: If there is one event
:22:22. > :22:26.where they do not like competing in the rain, it is the pole vault.
:22:27. > :22:32.Sally Peake, umbrella overhead, trying to keep the rain off. It is
:22:33. > :22:36.awful conditions. Look at the rain coming down. Oh, I word, she is
:22:37. > :22:40.clear. We have seen a bunch of failures, and that could be very
:22:41. > :22:45.significant, if the weather stays the same. Dancing in the rain, Sally
:22:46. > :22:50.Peake of Wales. As I say, the significance of that is, the
:22:51. > :22:56.conditions being so difficult, it asks questions of Alana Boyd of
:22:57. > :23:02.Australia, the pre-event favourite, yet to enter the competition. It is
:23:03. > :23:08.going to be soggy and wet and horrible if it stays the same. Sally
:23:09. > :23:11.Peake, her coach surely was part of that strategic move to come in at
:23:12. > :23:24.four metres. Well done. Singing and dancing in the rain,
:23:25. > :23:26.that is how that quartet will be feeling right now. Matthew
:23:27. > :23:32.Hudson-Smith came to our attention very much in the Diamond League a
:23:33. > :23:38.few weeks ago. He loves this track. He went sub-45, and we thought, wow,
:23:39. > :23:43.this guy is good. It was a big responsibility to bring it home. It
:23:44. > :23:47.is a huge responsibility for the young man. But as you said, he loves
:23:48. > :23:51.this track. This is where magic happened for him. When you think
:23:52. > :23:55.about how it has panned out, it is just a brilliant performance, it
:23:56. > :24:03.really is. Right now, it is Jo Pavey, stepping up onto the rostrum
:24:04. > :24:07.to receive her bronze medal, for the most incredibly gutsy run that we
:24:08. > :24:13.saw earlier on this evening in the women's 5,000m. She would not give
:24:14. > :24:19.up. And she was rewarded with another medal at the top level, at
:24:20. > :24:24.40 years old. She had a baby ten months ago. She has got a little boy
:24:25. > :24:30.as well. An inspiration, Denise Lewis, on so many levels? She really
:24:31. > :24:36.is. It is great when an athlete of such pedigree, because as Steve
:24:37. > :24:40.said, she has been a stall what for distance running, she has tried
:24:41. > :24:48.everything, she has persevered, and it is such a just reward for such a
:24:49. > :24:55.likeable, well-respected athlete. We will of course bring you this whole
:24:56. > :24:59.ceremony in just a second. Going back to the 4x400m, we mentioned the
:25:00. > :25:05.various nations who thought they had a chance, and Jamaica just looked
:25:06. > :25:08.completely out of it? Yes, it was surprising, because they had some
:25:09. > :25:12.great performances in the 400 individual. We knew it was going to
:25:13. > :25:17.be a tight and exciting race, and it lived up to it. Matthew
:25:18. > :25:21.Hudson-Smith, congratulations to him, he was fantastic. Let's take
:25:22. > :25:28.you down to Steve, 45,000 metres ceremony. -- for the 5,000m
:25:29. > :25:38.ceremony. STEVE CRAM: Cherono, winning the
:25:39. > :25:45.gold medal for Kenya, to follow in the footsteps of her rate
:25:46. > :25:51.team-mate. It was gold, silver and bronze for Kenya last time in Delhi,
:25:52. > :26:00.but not this time. The last British athlete to win a medal in this event
:26:01. > :26:20.was Jo Pavey. Jo picked up the silver medal in Melbourne in 2006.
:26:21. > :27:01.APPLAUSE STEVE CRAM: A beautiful smile from
:27:02. > :27:05.Cherono, she is one of the best in the world.
:27:06. > :27:08.But maybe one of the performances of the Games from England's Jo Pavey,
:27:09. > :27:15.to take a bronze. Truly inspirational. Jo deserves all of
:27:16. > :27:19.these great moments. She has been on the rostrum a few times in her
:27:20. > :27:25.career, but this might just be one of the best.
:27:26. > :27:31.And you get the sense that when she mentioned her children, that was
:27:32. > :27:45.such an inspiration for her. GABBY LOGAN: There he is, my pal,
:27:46. > :27:57.Usain Bolt. 49 minutes to go until the men's 4x100m days.
:27:58. > :28:04.Tom Daley is diving right now on BBC Three. It is perhaps drier in the
:28:05. > :28:08.pool hole is on the track at the moment. But if you stay with us here
:28:09. > :28:12.on BBC One, we will show you highlights from that at around 9.30.
:28:13. > :28:22.All sorts going on today... Husband-and-wife double act Paul and
:28:23. > :28:32.Joanna Drinkhall took gold in the mixed doubles in the table tennis.
:28:33. > :28:37.Olympic champion Nicola Adams became the first ever women's Commonwealth
:28:38. > :28:40.Games boxing gold medallist, edging out Northern Ireland's Michaela
:28:41. > :28:48.Walsh in a nail-biting flyweight contest at the Hydro. Light
:28:49. > :28:57.flyweight Paddy Barnes secured Northern Ireland's first gold medal
:28:58. > :29:03.of these Games, beating India's Devendro Laishram in the final. And
:29:04. > :29:08.his roommate, Michael Conlan, despite coming into the fight with a
:29:09. > :29:14.big cut, secured victory in the bantamweight gold medal match
:29:15. > :29:18.against Ashfaq of England. Before we go back to the athletics, we have
:29:19. > :29:22.just got time to show you one of the fights which has just taken place in
:29:23. > :29:27.the Hydro, featuring England's highly rated Anthony Fowler, cousin
:29:28. > :29:35.of Robbie Fowler. He is also friends with Carl Froch, so he will have
:29:36. > :29:38.been getting plenty of tips. He was facing Vijender Vijender in the
:29:39. > :29:42.middleweight final. We can see how he got on, starting off in round
:29:43. > :29:52.two, with Jim Neilly and Richie Woodhall.
:29:53. > :30:01.JIM NEILLY: This is proving to be a dream final four Anthony Fowler, the
:30:02. > :30:20.man in blue, against the vastly experienced Vijender Vijender Singh.
:30:21. > :30:26.from Singh. He knows any weakness in his defence will be exposed. Fowler
:30:27. > :30:32.comes back nicely. It is important that Fowler does not allow Vijender
:30:33. > :30:38.Vjiender to get into a rhythm. Let him box at his pace and he will give
:30:39. > :30:44.you problems. It is the work from Fowler, here's not allowing his man
:30:45. > :31:04.to sit. He cannot close that gap because of the straight jab. He
:31:05. > :31:11.cannot allow him on the inside. Well Anthony Fowler get his turn? The
:31:12. > :31:18.cloud -- the crowd think it is -- will. They have both boxed four
:31:19. > :31:24.times to get to this final. The stamina and what they have in the
:31:25. > :31:29.tank is important. It is important that Fowler keeps the left-hand fast
:31:30. > :31:34.and sharp. Vijender Singh is trying to catch him with the hook. If that
:31:35. > :31:41.jab slows down, it will allow him to do that. At the moment, Fowler is
:31:42. > :31:48.keeping that speed and it is fast. Good work. He is landing anything
:31:49. > :31:56.meaningful. Vijender Singh is not doing very much, no right-hand work.
:31:57. > :32:02.Fowler is tying him up. Nice stuff by Fowler. Occupying the centre of
:32:03. > :32:08.the rain looking for the big shots. Last 40 seconds of this round --
:32:09. > :32:14.ring. Nothing spectacular from Fowler, but good solid work. He is
:32:15. > :32:23.holding his ground, fighting fire with fire. Good tactics, Anthony
:32:24. > :32:28.Fowler. Good work, brilliant work. A couple of good shots. Vijender Singh
:32:29. > :32:41.is under pressure, more pressure than he has had in the rest of the
:32:42. > :32:52.contest stop --. A few seconds remain. Not much between them, but
:32:53. > :33:04.for my money, Fowler has taken that one. Our fantastic round there. -- a
:33:05. > :33:10.fantastic round. He is saying, relax, good work from Fowler, he has
:33:11. > :33:15.beat his man to the punch, but it will have to watch out for his left
:33:16. > :33:20.hook. Let us look, straight jab, he goes to set again, he cannot close
:33:21. > :33:30.the gap down, with anything meaningful, Fowler's round again.
:33:31. > :33:38.Three judges, he will be happy with that. He has to produce something
:33:39. > :33:46.that we have not seen in this final so far and all he has to do is more
:33:47. > :33:53.of the same. Go on, you can do this. Last three minutes, first two rounds
:33:54. > :33:58.to the man in blue, his opponent is in all sorts of trouble. And more
:33:59. > :34:05.steady and dependable second. Anthony Fowler, the world bronze
:34:06. > :34:12.medallist from 2013 is more adaptable. He is heading for
:34:13. > :34:18.Commonwealth gold. Fowler took a shot or two. Vijender Singh has to
:34:19. > :34:22.try and open up. That body shot from Fowler was to reflect, but Vijender
:34:23. > :34:28.Singh knows he is losing and he is trying to come onto his front foot
:34:29. > :34:33.-- Fowler was great. It is great to see boxers behind their lead hand,
:34:34. > :34:44.everything comes from behind that Java. -- jab. Fowler looks a bit
:34:45. > :34:54.tired, but he is still in the centre of the rain. Vijender Singh needs to
:34:55. > :35:00.do more. -- ring. Fowler will not be trapped like that. Wide stance,
:35:01. > :35:09.nicely balanced, looking to see what his man will do, looking at his face
:35:10. > :35:25.and feet. He ties his man up. Midway through the third and final round.
:35:26. > :35:32.Fowler, looking to emulate the great John Conti. Vijender Singh is trying
:35:33. > :35:38.to get close to Fowler. Fowler's straight work again. He has to see
:35:39. > :35:45.out this minute. Vijender Singh will come on stronger. Keep it together,
:35:46. > :35:51.Anthony Fowler. Not a lot of great foot movement, but he is moving in
:35:52. > :35:55.and out of range and it is that movement back which has kept him in
:35:56. > :36:01.good stage. Into the final minute of this last round and Anthony Fowler
:36:02. > :36:08.has this Commonwealth gold medal in the bag. He will win this. Vijender
:36:09. > :36:15.Singh has to produce something we have not seen. Fowler is not going
:36:16. > :36:20.to get caught. Last 30 seconds. He has not quickened his feet up and he
:36:21. > :36:26.has not been allowed to. Every time he tries to attack, a jab comes his
:36:27. > :36:34.way. That is better, but it is too late. He is chasing it. Last 15
:36:35. > :36:38.seconds, Fowler had his man on the canvas, forced a couple of standing
:36:39. > :36:45.counts. Good right hand from Vijender Singh, but too late. Fowler
:36:46. > :36:51.is going to win this one. Fowler will hang on. The bell goes and
:36:52. > :36:59.Fowler has won it! What a performance from Fowler. The best
:37:00. > :37:08.man in the division has won the division. The winner by unanimous
:37:09. > :37:13.decision, gold medallist and Commonwealth champion in the blue
:37:14. > :37:19.corner, representing England, Anthony Fowler! It is Anthony
:37:20. > :37:26.Fowler. Brilliant performance all the way through. One of the judges
:37:27. > :37:34.gave the last round to Vijender Singh, would not argue with that.
:37:35. > :37:38.There is the best middleweight boxer in the tournament. Had to boxed four
:37:39. > :37:47.times to get to the final and he did so well -- box. Now, the man who
:37:48. > :37:51.everyone thought would be the gold medal winner and Anthony Fowler has
:37:52. > :37:59.produced nine minutes of sparkling boxing. Great stuff, well done
:38:00. > :38:03.Anthony Fowler. We have just got time to show the final round of the
:38:04. > :38:07.men's lightweight final. It is Charlie Flynn against Joe
:38:08. > :38:16.Fitzpatrick from Northern Ireland. It is good value and we join it in
:38:17. > :38:23.the first round. Good tactics from Flynn, he knows he has to get up
:38:24. > :38:28.close. Fitzpatrick has to adjust his feet and create a bit of room and
:38:29. > :38:33.space. His opponent is coming forward and you have to give credit
:38:34. > :38:40.to Flynn, boxing the right contest, closing the gap. Flynn had an
:38:41. > :38:46.impressive win in his semifinal over the Welsh contender. He came on
:38:47. > :39:00.strong in the second and third round. Every forward move from Flynn
:39:01. > :39:07.is bringing thunderous of a shin and applause from the crowd. It is at
:39:08. > :39:22.capacity and the decibel level has risen. We have seen Flynn box a
:39:23. > :39:26.couple of southpaws. You watch, he will throw the right hand, dipped to
:39:27. > :39:34.his left and come back with the hook. Good tactics from the young
:39:35. > :39:41.Scotsman. A very bright start. Surely Flynn has taken that opening
:39:42. > :39:47.round. It was a bit inaccurate, but Flynn, it on the inside, scored
:39:48. > :39:54.well. A bit scrappy here and there, but he catches Fitzpatrick with a
:39:55. > :40:00.lovely right hook. Clever little right hand from Flynn, lovely work.
:40:01. > :40:12.Switching the attack, finding the better accurate work now, Flynn.
:40:13. > :40:20.Flynn continuing to bob and weave. Covering up nicely, driven back by a
:40:21. > :40:24.left hand from Fitzpatrick. This contest is not suiting Fitzpatrick.
:40:25. > :40:31.He started well, but now he's getting inaccurate and scrappy.
:40:32. > :40:40.Flint is willing to work on the inside and it suits him. -- Flynn.
:40:41. > :40:47.Too often in this round Fitzpatrick is going square with his feet. His
:40:48. > :40:51.left hand is too far out. He needs to break the distance down. He is
:40:52. > :40:57.launching the left hand too far away. His speed comes square and it
:40:58. > :41:02.allows Flynn to work on the inside. A good round for Charlie Flynn.
:41:03. > :41:13.Charlie Flynn, fighting furiously at close range. There is the bell to
:41:14. > :41:20.end round number two. Lovely there with that right hands, a bit of
:41:21. > :41:24.quality, found the space and gap. Lovely right hand again, just on the
:41:25. > :41:31.outside, Fitzpatrick coming forward, but his feet are square. I think
:41:32. > :41:38.Fitzpatrick has to go for it. He is two rounds down, all or nothing, has
:41:39. > :41:41.to try and find the power shots. Fitzpatrick needs to adjust his
:41:42. > :41:51.speed and perhaps bring him onto a right hook, but he has not quite
:41:52. > :41:57.found that shot shirt. -- shot yet. Inside the final 30 seconds of this
:41:58. > :42:03.round. Fitzpatrick will have to find a punch to end this contest. He lost
:42:04. > :42:10.the first two rounds. Flynn remains incredibly composed. Incredibly
:42:11. > :42:14.relaxed in the biggest context of his career to date. The crowd
:42:15. > :42:22.increased their volume again. -- contest. There is the bell. There
:42:23. > :42:31.can be no doubt about the man who will become champion. The crowd here
:42:32. > :42:38.in the arena stand to acclaim and applaud young Charlie Flynn, just 20
:42:39. > :42:40.years of age. The winner by unanimous decision and now the
:42:41. > :42:45.Commonwealth gold medallist and men's lightweight champion, in the
:42:46. > :42:55.red corner, representing Scotland, Charlie Flynn! Charlie, well done,
:42:56. > :43:00.that was a fantastic performance. Thank you. Sometimes you need to be
:43:01. > :43:08.awkward. That was the case, I was jumping in with shots, but I kept
:43:09. > :43:16.catching him. It was a hard fight. I am knackered! I would like to thank
:43:17. > :43:21.everybody who has put me in, especially my dad. My mum, who did
:43:22. > :43:27.all my washing and fed me. I would not be here without them. That is a
:43:28. > :43:31.fact. Well done Charlie, brilliant effort for Scotland. There are 13
:43:32. > :43:36.finals in all today and if you have missed any of them, you can catch up
:43:37. > :43:40.on the iPlayer. You can watch the remaining fights live on the red
:43:41. > :43:52.button. And the pan will join the later to look back on the action
:43:53. > :44:13.from the ring. -- Amir Khan. Now it is time for the relays. Usain Bolt
:44:14. > :44:22.is running, of course. How do you become a world-class sprinter! He
:44:23. > :44:34.becomes a legend. It does depend on your raw materials. How you are
:44:35. > :44:38.assembled. How you are built. But all the fine tuning in the world
:44:39. > :44:49.will not help, if you do not have inner steel. If you do not have
:44:50. > :44:54.willpower and the drive to succeed. You still have to take care of
:44:55. > :45:02.business. Build on your strength, your focus and your might. If you do
:45:03. > :45:13.that, and you arrive at the blocks, you might just make the most of
:45:14. > :45:17.being built to sprint. You seem -- Usain Bolt may have only been on the
:45:18. > :45:21.track for ten seconds but he has been on the front pages always. Hard
:45:22. > :45:27.to know what they were right about when he is gone. Do not go upsetting
:45:28. > :45:36.him again! All good banter as you know.
:45:37. > :45:43.The shouting around here has been for a thrilling women's pole vault
:45:44. > :45:51.competition. Over to Steve Backley.
:45:52. > :45:54.STEVE BACKLEY: A very interesting story indeed developing. Newman,
:45:55. > :46:02.third on the Commonwealth rankings from 2014. This is her third attempt
:46:03. > :46:06.at four metres. Difficult conditions here this evening. Oh, and that is
:46:07. > :46:13.exactly what all the athletes are fearing. You saw her slip down the
:46:14. > :46:20.pole jig. She lost her grip. The athletes really struggle with
:46:21. > :46:32.torrential rain. The grips are wet. This is exactly... Top hand is the
:46:33. > :46:35.crucial hand. The right hand of Newman slipping away, and that is
:46:36. > :46:46.her third fail, and she is out of the competition. So, it looks like
:46:47. > :46:52.medals, because of the conditions, might be decided at this relatively
:46:53. > :46:59.low height. Third attempt for Scott, at four metres. Oh, that was close.
:47:00. > :47:04.She maintained her grip. The athletes have been huddling under
:47:05. > :47:07.the shelter available, but that is a third fail for Sally Scott, and the
:47:08. > :47:14.plot thickens, with four athletes remaining. It looks as though Sally
:47:15. > :47:20.Peake of Wales, going clear at this height of four metres, is a
:47:21. > :47:30.contender. Just got sideways over the bar, did not manage to turn her
:47:31. > :47:42.body. She did not manage to turn it one quarter of a vocation, to allow
:47:43. > :47:45.the hip to get out of the way. Alana Boyd of Australia was the champion
:47:46. > :47:50.four years ago, but she has waited all evening, and is expected to romp
:47:51. > :47:58.away with this. This is her opening effort. No! Wow! I will tell you
:47:59. > :48:03.what, that is something I suppose a lot of the athletes might have been
:48:04. > :48:09.looking sideways at that, saying, is it a wise thing to wait around, an
:48:10. > :48:17.hour and a quarter, since the competition started? She is not
:48:18. > :48:20.happy with something. The sponges have been out, trying to get rid of
:48:21. > :48:25.the rain from underfoot. But it is the grips and the mapped. -- the
:48:26. > :48:37.Matt. Sally Peake is in the lead. She is
:48:38. > :48:45.the only athlete who has gone clear at four metres. The bar is now at
:48:46. > :48:56.four metres. The bar is now. Oh yes! Sally Peake! It was actually
:48:57. > :49:01.her second attempt. But it is a wonderful clearance for the Welsh
:49:02. > :49:08.athlete. What a timely clearance. She does not seem to be bothered by
:49:09. > :49:15.the range effort to have the confidence to rock back and go
:49:16. > :49:22.outside town and sit at the top of a four metre tube of glass fibre takes
:49:23. > :49:28.some bottle, and Sally Peake has that in bundles.
:49:29. > :49:51.ANDREW COTTER: England with the bronze medal in the women's 4x400m.
:49:52. > :50:03.It is a title they have won in the past, England, back in 1994. But
:50:04. > :50:10.here, bearing in mind the calibre of the opponents, bronze was a very
:50:11. > :50:13.well earned medal, and just about what they could have expected.
:50:14. > :50:19.Christine Ohuruogu, it has been a very light year for her, in terms of
:50:20. > :50:20.championships. But she has another bronze medal to add to her
:50:21. > :50:56.collection. Nigeria take the silver medal. But
:50:57. > :51:04.the gold medallists, for the first time, Jamaica have this title.
:51:05. > :51:09.4x400m relay champions. It is almost an astonishing fact that this is the
:51:10. > :51:14.first time the Jamaicans have won this. You look at the calibre of the
:51:15. > :51:23.team here, and it was always likely to happen. Novlene Williams-Mills,
:51:24. > :51:32.silver in the individual, to go with her many medals from championships
:51:33. > :51:36.over the years. On the anchor leg, the gold medal from the individual,
:51:37. > :51:49.Stephanie O'Hare, who did it in a Games record time. The men were not
:51:50. > :51:57.able to match them in the 4x400m. Will they be able to do so in the
:51:58. > :52:02.4x100m? They will start as strong favourites. I am sure they will be
:52:03. > :52:09.given a good run by England. But here, it was Nigeria pushing them
:52:10. > :52:13.closer. ANNOUNCER: Ladies and gentlemen, the
:52:14. > :53:31.national anthem of Jamaica. APPLAUSE
:53:32. > :53:33.THAT MAY NOT BE THE LAST TIME WE HAVE THE JAMAICA NATIONAL ANTHEM
:53:34. > :53:39.THIS EVENING. HAVE THE JAMAICA NATIONAL ANTHEM
:53:40. > :53:59.THIS EVENING. STEVE BACKLEY: Looking across to the
:54:00. > :54:04.far end of the stadium, away from the ceremony area, the pole vault is
:54:05. > :54:14.continuing. This is Alana Boyd of Australia, looking to go clear at
:54:15. > :54:20.4.15, to match Sally Peake of Wales. Oh, she is clear, on her third
:54:21. > :54:25.attempt. I will tell you what, because Sally Peake went clear on
:54:26. > :54:34.her second attempt, it will not be Alana Boyd going into the lead. That
:54:35. > :54:43.is second-place for now. We are now live, at 4.25. Sally Peake of Wales,
:54:44. > :54:51.can she extend her lead? Oh, it is good! Oh, Sally Peake! Absolutely
:54:52. > :55:00.superb! She jumped magnificently here in the Grand Prix several weeks
:55:01. > :55:03.ago. 4.40, she did. She obviously enjoys the facility, she feels at
:55:04. > :55:10.home, and looks at home. Drives hard, bends the bar, rocks back. And
:55:11. > :55:16.it is a great clearance. There is more to come as well from Sally
:55:17. > :55:26.Peake. She is in the gold medal position, but can she stay there?
:55:27. > :55:34.Wonderful performance from Sally Peake. The event continues, and the
:55:35. > :55:41.battle between her and Alana Boyd. More to come. At the opposite end of
:55:42. > :55:46.the stadium, the men's javelin is coming to its conclusion. This is
:55:47. > :55:53.your Olympic champion from 2012. He is in second place at the moment,
:55:54. > :56:00.behind the Kenyan. And that is powerful. And it is a long, long
:56:01. > :56:19.throw from Walcott. It looks as though it might be just short of
:56:20. > :56:23.that gold line, put down by Yego, but that is his best throw of the
:56:24. > :56:29.competition. And that is a great set of throws in what has been awful
:56:30. > :56:33.conditions. That confirms the victory for Julius Yego, my
:56:34. > :56:36.favourite story of the Games. The man who learned to throw the javelin
:56:37. > :56:40.on Youtube is the Commonwealth champion, for Kenya! So much success
:56:41. > :57:11.on the track. Now, in the javelin. ANDREW COTTER: The penultimate race
:57:12. > :57:16.on the track. Wales going in Lane 1. Asha Philip leading off the English
:57:17. > :57:26.quartet. Bianca Williams has been brought in. Ashleigh Nelson on the
:57:27. > :57:29.anchor. The Bahamas, with Ferguson, semifinalist in the 100, on the
:57:30. > :57:36.second leg. Not the strongest quartet. Wales, for an hour and a
:57:37. > :57:40.half last night, they were out, disqualified. But they were then
:57:41. > :57:52.reinstated, it was deemed that their changeover was legal, so they get
:57:53. > :58:02.another chance. There is messing kookaburra for the Nigerian quartet.
:58:03. > :58:16.Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce on the anchor leg for Jamaica. Canada, the
:58:17. > :58:24.third quickest qualifier. The final of the women's 4x100m. Away they go,
:58:25. > :58:26.cleanly. Asha Philip looking to put England in a strong position.
:58:27. > :58:38.Jamaica looking strong already, with Kerron Stewart. The double sprint
:58:39. > :58:44.gold medallist has it for Nigeria. Jamaica leading at the moment.
:58:45. > :58:50.England have it now with Jodie Williams, silver in the 200m.
:58:51. > :58:56.England will look to chase down Nigeria. Jamaica are well clear.
:58:57. > :59:01.Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is going to storm to gold. England trying to get
:59:02. > :59:07.silver. But it will be Nigeria. England take the bronze. Well, we
:59:08. > :59:12.thought England might be able to push Jamaica close, but there was no
:59:13. > :59:15.such thoughts of that. It is a Games record for Jamaica. What a
:59:16. > :59:21.performance, dominant, from the Jamaican quartet. Shelly-Ann
:59:22. > :59:30.Fraser-Pryce, put her in that position, and there is no chance
:59:31. > :59:37.that she will be caught! That is the quickest in the world this year, and
:59:38. > :59:40.also a Games were caught. So, it is bronze for England, silver for
:59:41. > :59:56.Nigeria. said, it is the quickest in the
:59:57. > :00:01.world. We did have the world relay championships in the Bahamas earlier
:00:02. > :00:10.in the year. Before we look at the replays, the pole vault final is
:00:11. > :00:29.warming up. Sally Peek, four metres -- 4.3 five -- Sally Peake. She is
:00:30. > :00:36.still in the lead. It was a pretty solid run from the English quartet.
:00:37. > :00:41.Of course, Jamaica, with such an experienced team, you look at that
:00:42. > :00:47.team and wonder how it could get much better, but Stewart ran well,
:00:48. > :00:52.Calvert, Shelly Ann Fraser Price... Tricky conditions, wet, could have
:00:53. > :00:56.been fraught with all sorts of dangers, but a good and clean
:00:57. > :01:05.performance from the Jamaicans. For England, on the first leg, Philip
:01:06. > :01:10.had it pretty well, but Jamaica had a great first leg. Not a great
:01:11. > :01:17.handover, but Campbell Brown had great speed. There was enough of a
:01:18. > :01:24.gap between Nigeria and England. Jodie Williams on the top, Nelson
:01:25. > :01:29.brought it home. That gap was too much. Jamaica had gone and Shelly
:01:30. > :01:36.Ann Fraser Price had it in her hands. Just enough, with Nelson
:01:37. > :01:42.chasing hard, not quite going to get there. What a run by the Jamaicans,
:01:43. > :01:53.a great performance under these conditions. Nigeria did well. Shelly
:01:54. > :02:00.Ann Fraser Price, Calvert knows it is all done and dusted. Such a good
:02:01. > :02:04.run, but the changeover was good. Looking at the English changeover,
:02:05. > :02:13.they were slick. They were all at a good stretch and pace, this was a
:02:14. > :02:18.good squad. Bringing in Bianca Williams and Jodie Williams, the
:02:19. > :02:26.rising talents, Nelson as well on the anchor leg, but she could not
:02:27. > :02:33.quite get back will stop a bronze medal, another medal for the
:02:34. > :02:45.connection -- collection -- she could not quite get back. Another
:02:46. > :02:50.bronze for England. It was really good, the weather let us down, but
:02:51. > :02:56.we knew Scotland would be like this. As a quartet, we did well. We were
:02:57. > :03:00.not happy about the time, but it was the first time we had done it
:03:01. > :03:07.together. We have a lot more to get and I am proud of the girls. This is
:03:08. > :03:12.such a young team. It is a good effort, we are still young, we have
:03:13. > :03:16.got European Championships and World Championships next and we know we
:03:17. > :03:21.can do it. Today was not our day, the weather was awful, but we will
:03:22. > :03:28.not make excuses, but the European Championships could be our time.
:03:29. > :03:35.Jamaica had a great team, had you hope to be closer to Nigeria? We
:03:36. > :03:39.came here to win, Jamaica were the better team on the day. I am so
:03:40. > :03:43.proud of us, we are all young, it is a young team and going into the
:03:44. > :03:50.European Championships, we are out to win it. That is exciting, look at
:03:51. > :03:57.this quartet, British female sprinting is in rude health. It is
:03:58. > :04:01.great that we could run in the heat. So many girls fighting for
:04:02. > :04:08.spots we all do it together. We could not do it without each other.
:04:09. > :04:14.Well done on the bronze medal and good luck in the European
:04:15. > :04:20.Championships. I have to stress to Philip that the weather is not often
:04:21. > :04:22.like this in Scotland. Nigeria got the silver medal. I have to stress
:04:23. > :04:35.to Philip that the weather is not often like this in Scotland. Nigeria
:04:36. > :04:45.got the silver medal. A back to the pole vault final and Alana Boyd. --
:04:46. > :04:51.back to. It is good. It is good for her, at 30 years of age she is the
:04:52. > :05:01.defending champion. It looks as though she is finding her feet.
:05:02. > :05:09.Sally Peake chose to skip the previous height. It looked as though
:05:10. > :05:17.she might have had the height, but did not get through enough into the
:05:18. > :05:22.mat. Sally Peake, a great performance so far, it looks like
:05:23. > :05:26.she has upgraded the pole, it is a longer pole that she is using
:05:27. > :05:30.because of the bigger heights and that is two faders, she is in silver
:05:31. > :05:37.position behind Alana Boyd from Australia. -- failures. Australia
:05:38. > :05:41.have won every contest in pole vaulting at the Commonwealth Games
:05:42. > :05:45.to date. Sally Peake had a grasp of that and will need to go clear at
:05:46. > :05:59.this height to stay in the competition. Just over ten minutes
:06:00. > :06:06.to the four x 100 m relay. It is the last event of what has had -- has
:06:07. > :06:10.been a fabulous meeting. Usain Bolt hopes he will be bringing Jamaica
:06:11. > :06:15.home for the gold medal. England are in there with a strong quartet. Let
:06:16. > :06:21.us catch up with the quartet who won goals. A golden moment in the
:06:22. > :06:27.stadium provided by this fabulous quartet for England. Starting at
:06:28. > :06:33.off, Conrad Williams, you have been in this team for a long time, what
:06:34. > :06:39.does this mean to you? It means ten years of hard work. Words cannot
:06:40. > :06:49.describe it. It is the best thing I have ever known. This is a home
:06:50. > :06:54.crowd for me. It means too much, I love these boys. The way they were
:06:55. > :07:02.at tonight, I sat them up -- set them up. I do not know, I cannot
:07:03. > :07:08.speak. We know what it means to you. The lap of honour reinforces it.
:07:09. > :07:14.This team, especially, at any given time, we can have a strong team, we
:07:15. > :07:19.all believe in each other, we all run together and we have proved that
:07:20. > :07:27.today. We saw throughout the competition, it got rainy, but we
:07:28. > :07:32.ran well. Imagine if that was better weather. We have a lot more to give.
:07:33. > :07:41.I'm excited for the future, but I am happy. We cannot appreciate anything
:07:42. > :07:45.more than a gold medal. From decathlon to this, being part of the
:07:46. > :07:52.team, here you are with a gold medal. What a journey. I cannot
:07:53. > :08:00.believe it. I have wanted this for so long. It has been a rocky
:08:01. > :08:05.journey. These guys have welcomed me with open arms. I feel like I am one
:08:06. > :08:11.of the team. It has been amazing. I woke up this morning feeling so
:08:12. > :08:21.positive. It is a great feeling. What about this man on the" macro --
:08:22. > :08:36.on the end. --? Can you find words now? No! Ice my mum, I am happy.
:08:37. > :08:44.That was crazy. -- I saw my mum. It has all happened so fast. There is a
:08:45. > :08:48.lot to learn. This is just the beginning. You are the Olympic
:08:49. > :08:59.champions, you were chased down by Chris Brown, but you would not be
:09:00. > :09:08.beaten. I cannot believe it. It was amazing. I knew he had it. The
:09:09. > :09:15.future is bright with kids like him. Congratulations, enjoy the moment on
:09:16. > :09:21.the podium. The weather has been a huge factor here this evening and
:09:22. > :09:25.especially in this poll faltered final. It has dried off and maybe
:09:26. > :09:34.Alana Boyd is making the most of the drier conditions -- pole vault. That
:09:35. > :09:41.is a great clearance. You think she is getting into her stride. The
:09:42. > :09:52.champion four years ago, she goes clear at 4.40. So then, Sally
:09:53. > :09:58.Peake, IMs apprised she has taken a second attempt at 4.40 -- I am
:09:59. > :10:11.surprised. She will have a go anyway. Look to be over that. That
:10:12. > :10:22.is a third failure for Sally Peake of Wales. Confirmed silver
:10:23. > :10:30.medallist. Best there, 4.25 and a silver medal for Wales. Well done
:10:31. > :10:34.Sally Peake, making a thrilling pole vault competition in difficult
:10:35. > :10:41.conditions, but that man there, Usain Bolt is out, he is on the
:10:42. > :10:45.track, getting ready to anchor the relay for Jamaica. It is the last
:10:46. > :10:54.event on the track and last night, he did what he always does, he came
:10:55. > :10:58.out and what he gives to the crowd and what he gives to an athletics
:10:59. > :11:09.meeting, you cannot put into words and put a price on it, to have a
:11:10. > :11:13.star like that. This crowd really appreciate him and going all the way
:11:14. > :11:19.back, the first time we saw him on the ground stage in Beijing, people
:11:20. > :11:23.immediately in the sport and outside the sport started criticising him,
:11:24. > :11:28.he was showboating, but people get it now. He likes the attention, it
:11:29. > :11:31.is not about him and that is where people make the mistake, they think
:11:32. > :11:41.it is all about him. If you meet him, he is humble, quite shy and
:11:42. > :11:45.quiet. He is a real tactician and a student of sprinting. When we see
:11:46. > :11:52.him on the Diamond League, he wants to do his times, he is not all fun
:11:53. > :11:57.and frivolity, he is about his art. If you pay close attention to him,
:11:58. > :12:02.he is out there, playing to the crowd, and then just before the
:12:03. > :12:06.start of the race, he goes into a focus and in contrast, I had to go
:12:07. > :12:11.into focus in the morning. That is the difference between us, he can go
:12:12. > :12:16.into focus seconds before the race, but he is very focused. He is an
:12:17. > :12:21.entertainer and it is great for the sport. It is great for the sport
:12:22. > :12:26.because he delivers. It is not great for the sport when other people try
:12:27. > :12:30.to emulate him, dancing on the start line and they finish seventh! It
:12:31. > :12:37.does not work. It is a different way, a different dynamic that he has
:12:38. > :12:42.brought to the sport, before, athletes were very serious. I used
:12:43. > :12:46.to be very focused, days before the competition and I did not smile
:12:47. > :12:51.through anything, but he loves it, look at him! He is like, you are
:12:52. > :12:59.here, you have come to see me and I love it. These two are very
:13:00. > :13:03.miserable. I think everyone has their own individual way of locking
:13:04. > :13:07.in and getting tied into the zone and I say that, Usain Bolt has the
:13:08. > :13:12.luxury that he can do it when it matters, that crucial moment and
:13:13. > :13:18.that allows him to do what he does. He enjoys the sport, he is a student
:13:19. > :13:23.of sprinting and when you talk to him about what it takes to be a
:13:24. > :13:29.great runner, he will break it down to you. Absolutely, and that is
:13:30. > :13:33.something we do not often see. Those guys give us great entertainment
:13:34. > :13:41.this evening. All 12 of them, that was a fantastic relay and England,
:13:42. > :13:48.victorious in the end, the first time since 2002. Steve Cram will
:13:49. > :13:59.tell you more. Yes, what a race it was, in the pouring rain. Gold for
:14:00. > :14:15.England. Conrad Williams there. He was a little bit emotional. Superb
:14:16. > :14:19.lead of man tonight. Michael Bingham got England into the lead and Daniel
:14:20. > :14:25.Awde, the former decathlete made a great transition and when this young
:14:26. > :14:39.man got the Batten, Matthew Hudson-Smith, he was not scared --
:14:40. > :14:47.button -- baton. He held off a charging Chris Brown from the
:14:48. > :15:04.Bahamas. No Martyn Rooney, do not forget. What a performance from this
:15:05. > :16:08.England quartet. English National Anthem: Jerusalem.
:16:09. > :16:26.medal of the track and field programme. Hudson-Smith, he almost
:16:27. > :16:30.looks as though he does not know what to do. Last year, that young
:16:31. > :16:32.man was running in the English Schools Championships, and now look
:16:33. > :16:46.at him. GABBY LOGAN: Well, nobody tells you
:16:47. > :16:51.how to behave in a medal ceremony, do they, Denise Lewis? It has been
:16:52. > :17:04.incredible watching him on the podium. He is like a rabbit in
:17:05. > :17:08.headlights. But what a magical moment for someone so young. This is
:17:09. > :17:17.the biggest stage he has ever competed on. He was brilliant, I am
:17:18. > :17:22.so proud of him. Usain Bolt is stripping off, and I could not help
:17:23. > :17:27.but notice, Adam Gemili, when the anthem was being played, he was
:17:28. > :17:32.looking up, and you got a sense that he was soaking it up, thinking that
:17:33. > :17:35.with a big performance, and a bit of luck, they could be up there as
:17:36. > :17:39.well, Colin Jackson. COLIN JACKSON: Yes, it is an
:17:40. > :17:46.interesting line-up which England have put out, especially the order
:17:47. > :17:56.in which they are running. At the moment it looks like Adam first,
:17:57. > :18:09.followed by Harry, and then Richard Kilty, before Danny Talbot last. And
:18:10. > :18:16.James Ellington is not there. I am staggered about that. He ran
:18:17. > :18:19.brilliantly last night. But Harry is in there. Hopefully he will do a
:18:20. > :18:26.great job on the second leg. And Richard Kilty, the, has obviously
:18:27. > :18:35.been given the nod. We have not usually seen him on but hopefully,
:18:36. > :18:41.the glory leg... MICHAEL JOHNSON: I am also
:18:42. > :18:48.confused. I would have put Adam Gemili on third, I would have put
:18:49. > :18:57.Richard Kilty on first. I do not understand this order, I really
:18:58. > :19:02.don't. I would have put Danny Talbot on the second leg. He is a great 200
:19:03. > :19:07.metre runner. It is interesting. They know better than us! Usain
:19:08. > :19:14.Bolt's first experience of your new favourite song, Michael Johnson, 500
:19:15. > :19:27.Miles, Bridie proclaimers. -- by The Proclaimers. He is looking good, he
:19:28. > :19:34.is relaxed. And the Nigerian athlete looks like he is enjoying himself as
:19:35. > :19:37.well. They are speaking about different ways of operating, and
:19:38. > :19:41.Adam Gemili is one of those who smiles a lot. He said he smiles
:19:42. > :19:50.because he loves racing, he loves being in this environment. I think
:19:51. > :19:58.he has said he is amazed by the atmosphere. He will enjoy this whole
:19:59. > :20:07.environment. This will inspire those English boys, no doubt. Look at our
:20:08. > :20:12.showman! MICHAEL JOHNSON: I think you
:20:13. > :20:16.inspired him, Gaby! DENISE LEWIS: What is difficult,
:20:17. > :20:20.though, is, if you are not in this moment, you might not be able to
:20:21. > :20:29.concentrate, if you are not feeling this right now. But at the same
:20:30. > :20:37.time, any other athlete, you cannot let anything distract you. That is
:20:38. > :20:42.how you have to be as an athlete. You cannot let the fact that all of
:20:43. > :20:48.this is going on around you, he is dancing, he is in the lane next to
:20:49. > :20:54.me, and the crowd is going crazy - I am still focused on my race, and
:20:55. > :20:58.what I have got to do. Let's see if there is going to be a celebration
:20:59. > :21:01.for the home nation. Steve Cram is your commentator.
:21:02. > :21:06.STEVE CRAM: The final event of the track and field programme. Canada,
:21:07. > :21:10.along with a few other teams in here, we'll be looking to try and
:21:11. > :21:16.upset the party little bit. Jamaica, though, with that team. Kemar
:21:17. > :21:30.Bailey-Cole, the gold medallist in the individual. And of course, Bolt.
:21:31. > :21:33.Danny Talbot, all the way through that, he was a picture of
:21:34. > :21:42.concentration! Adam Gemili first, then. Huge cheers, what a great week
:21:43. > :21:44.it has been for him. He will hand onto Harry, followed by Richard
:21:45. > :21:55.Kilty and Danny Talbot. Watch out for Trinidad Tobago. Richard
:21:56. > :22:11.Thompson on the last leg. The Bahamas. They set a new national
:22:12. > :22:16.record in qualifying for this final. Just going back to qualification,
:22:17. > :22:21.Trinidad ran 38.33, they were the quickest. Canada were the second
:22:22. > :22:24.quickest. Then it was Bahamas, then it was England. And I have not even
:22:25. > :22:31.mentioned Jamaica, so that gives you a sense of what England will have to
:22:32. > :22:37.do, anybody will have to do, to win a medal. It is going to be tough
:22:38. > :22:42.here. Nigeria are in Lane 7. They have got experience as well. And
:22:43. > :23:03.South Africa, out in Lane 8, might not be too far away, either. The
:23:04. > :23:06.men's 4x100m final. Livermore with the baton F-4 jet Jamaica. Adam
:23:07. > :23:13.Gemili has already made up a metre or so on Canada. It is a good change
:23:14. > :23:19.for England and also for Jamaica. So, Jamaica, England, Canada.
:23:20. > :23:23.Trinidad a little bit distance. Richard Kilty has got it for
:23:24. > :23:27.England. Our England going to be in the lead and no he will be handing
:23:28. > :23:34.over to Danny Talbot. England leading, but here comes Bolt! Usain
:23:35. > :23:43.Bolt streaking away! Richard Thompson chasing England down. But
:23:44. > :23:51.Usain Bolt takes it home. It is Glasgow gold for Usain Bolt and
:23:52. > :23:59.Jamaica. Let the party begin again. He came, he conquered. And we are
:24:00. > :24:15.all very happy that he did. Jamaica, with a new, Commonwealth Games
:24:16. > :24:26.record. But it was always going to be about Usain Bolt, once he got the
:24:27. > :24:32.baton, and with this Jamaican team, no matter who is in it, there is no
:24:33. > :24:37.Yohan Cabaye, no Nesta Carter, but no matter who they choose, give it
:24:38. > :24:46.to the big man, where he goes. Games record, there you go. I want to come
:24:47. > :24:51.to the party as well. Why don't we all just get down there and join in,
:24:52. > :24:54.hey? ANDREW COTTER: He is the great
:24:55. > :25:02.entertainer, was there ever any doubt? The only concern was, would
:25:03. > :25:07.they get the baton around? The Games record had belonged to England, from
:25:08. > :25:14.1998. Everybody wants to see this man, to get his signature, to touch
:25:15. > :25:17.redness. He is such a star. The changeovers were pretty good from
:25:18. > :25:37.England, we will have a look at them in a minute.
:25:38. > :25:43.There were always going to be headlines, regarding Usain Bolt,
:25:44. > :25:48.some of them positive, and the occasional -1, but he is such a
:25:49. > :25:53.star. And everybody who has come here tonight will be able to say, I
:25:54. > :26:00.saw the great Usain Bolt run in the flesh, in years to come. And I saw
:26:01. > :26:06.him dance to The Proclaimers as well! Let's have a look at it again.
:26:07. > :26:13.Nigeria watched it up a bit early on, but it was a pretty strong
:26:14. > :26:32.quartet. The changeover was strong for Jamaica. Richard Kilty, and just
:26:33. > :26:36.for a moment, there was never any contest between Danny Talbot and
:26:37. > :26:44.Usain Bolt. And very, very nearly, Richard Thompson was bearing down on
:26:45. > :26:51.Danny Talbot. But Usain Bolt was just chasing a time. Yes, the
:26:52. > :26:55.Canadian did not get the baton, and he could have been a threat to Danny
:26:56. > :26:58.Talbot on the last leg. As it was, England were able to hold off
:26:59. > :27:05.Richard Thompson for the silver medal. Well, Jamaica were always the
:27:06. > :27:12.favourite, but let's bring Michael in and have a look at what he
:27:13. > :27:15.thought of the England performance. MICHAEL JOHNSON: Adam Gemili got a
:27:16. > :27:22.fantastic start, he was already making up ground on the Jamaicans.
:27:23. > :27:27.Great handover to Harry Aikines-Aryeetey. He is also
:27:28. > :27:35.catching up the Jamaicans. Another good handover. Richard Kilty, he is
:27:36. > :27:39.running a really nice bend. But to change hands, that is a problem.
:27:40. > :27:50.Cost him a bit of time. Another good handover. Richard Thompson, the
:27:51. > :27:54.Olympic silver medallist, Danny Talbot holding him off, which was a
:27:55. > :27:59.great performance. Good effort by the English team, all the way round.
:28:00. > :28:07.This handover was a little bit low, but he got it. You have got to give
:28:08. > :28:11.those guys a lot of credit, this there were a lot of good teams in
:28:12. > :28:15.there. Nigerians could have made a mess of it for the English team, but
:28:16. > :28:21.actually, they made a mess of the handover on the first exchange.
:28:22. > :28:25.Trinidad Tobago, really, really talented team on paper, faster than
:28:26. > :28:32.the English team. Good catch by the official there! Nice work for the
:28:33. > :28:38.Jamaicans, and nice work for the English.
:28:39. > :28:42.STEVE CRAM: Just going back to the handing over of the baton, I think
:28:43. > :28:53.Richard Kilty just be adjusted, and thankfully, it pretty well. Well,
:28:54. > :28:58.everybody enjoying their lap of honour. The Canadians did have a
:28:59. > :29:06.chance, but you do have to get it round. They were very much in the
:29:07. > :29:11.race. Interesting, this Jamaican team. I was just looking at Bolt. He
:29:12. > :29:16.was even looking at the time. I just wonder whether he thought he might
:29:17. > :29:20.be running pretty quick here. It is a good team, not as fast as some of
:29:21. > :29:28.the people they have had in the past, of course. There is a lucky
:29:29. > :29:33.lady, and a lucky young lady. What sort of form do you think he is in
:29:34. > :29:37.individually, Usain Bolt? He is hoping to run a couple of races
:29:38. > :29:41.after this, and it will be interesting to see how the second
:29:42. > :29:44.half of the season goes. He is so important to the sport, as we have
:29:45. > :29:48.said. There is the World Championships next year, we would
:29:49. > :29:52.love to see him back and competing at his best. Richard Thompson has
:29:53. > :29:56.been one of the best this year, but Bolt, even near his best, is still
:29:57. > :30:01.going to be number one. He looks good, he looks relaxed. He looks as
:30:02. > :30:11.though he is moving nicely. I think he has enjoyed it. He is the star
:30:12. > :30:18.that everyone wants to see and look at what it means to all the people
:30:19. > :30:24.who have bought tickets be here. It has been a great night in Hampden
:30:25. > :30:29.Park. Primarily for England, we have been winning lots of medals, great
:30:30. > :30:42.atmosphere. He is undoubtedly the star of the show. Only 2% of those
:30:43. > :30:47.photographs will work! The result of the final event of the track and
:30:48. > :30:53.field programme, the gold medal to Jamaica. England got an excellent
:30:54. > :30:58.silver medal. They beat Trinidad and Tobago, who took the bronze medal
:30:59. > :31:04.and the South African team ran a new national record to finish fourth. In
:31:05. > :31:11.spite of the rain and appalling conditions, a new games record --
:31:12. > :31:21.Games. A great experience to be in the stadium for that race. I think
:31:22. > :31:28.that speaks to the conditions, it it's stopped raining earlier. The
:31:29. > :31:32.weather was not that much of a factor, because the Jamaicans were
:31:33. > :31:39.flying round the track. This is what it is all about. Usain Bolt, it has
:31:40. > :31:46.been a great combination of a lot of great competition, take the men's
:31:47. > :31:50.100 metres, it would not have been that great a race with Usain Bolt in
:31:51. > :31:55.it, not as entertaining. Getting to see him at the end of the
:31:56. > :31:59.competition, it was fitting. This is as close as we could get to what you
:32:00. > :32:08.said would be the best thing we could wish for, him getting the five
:32:09. > :32:15.metres down. He was a step or so behind Danny Talbot. We got to see
:32:16. > :32:21.him put on a show. He did not get the chance to cruise home. That was
:32:22. > :32:26.good for the crowd. Everyone was wondering how good a shape he was
:32:27. > :32:31.in. In terms of where he is, he is in the middle of a four year cycle,
:32:32. > :32:38.is it possible for him to be at the top of his game in two years time?
:32:39. > :32:46.It is possible for him to be at the top of the heap. Will he ever run as
:32:47. > :32:51.fast as he ran in 2008? I do not think so. I think the injuries will
:32:52. > :32:57.continue. As you get older, it is more difficult to stay healthy. He
:32:58. > :33:02.has been forced to take time off, that has helped him. He loves to
:33:03. > :33:08.race. I think the injuries have done him a service for the future. I
:33:09. > :33:13.think he will be fast enough in two years time to defend his
:33:14. > :33:17.Championship and win an unprecedented three in a roll of
:33:18. > :33:20.gold medals. He will have to manage his body and be very careful in
:33:21. > :33:21.terms of his race his body and be very careful in
:33:22. > :33:27.next year. We have seen that. his body and be very careful in
:33:28. > :33:32.think that he would race in the World Championships next year? No,
:33:33. > :33:39.he would want to go into the Olympics as the world champion. Next
:33:40. > :33:48.year, you want to add that to your CD as well, you want to be world
:33:49. > :33:52.champion as many times as you can. -- but CV. That might do him a
:33:53. > :34:02.disservice. You want to go into the Olympic season coming off are good
:34:03. > :34:11.and solid season. -- a good and solid season. The culture is so
:34:12. > :34:18.meticulous in the way he prepares his accolades and for him it is
:34:19. > :34:24.important how they perform -- the coach. I spoke to him about the
:34:25. > :34:28.performance of Usain Bolt and he said he was disappointed. I asked
:34:29. > :34:36.him why and he said he could have got the world record. It was great
:34:37. > :34:38.to hear and see that the coach was positive and inspired his athletes
:34:39. > :34:45.to go a little bit better even though they were superstores. They
:34:46. > :34:53.you can see the England quartet -- superstars. There have been lots of
:34:54. > :35:00.silver medals for England. They are in fourth place, 13 silver medals.
:35:01. > :35:08.Five gold medals. Kenya lead the table, followed by Jamaica and
:35:09. > :35:14.Australia. Convert a few more of those silver medals and they could
:35:15. > :35:26.be further up the table. Let us go out to the field. It was a very
:35:27. > :35:32.entertaining evening of athletics. The women's pole-vault, Sally Peake
:35:33. > :35:45.there with the Welsh like, it was a great performance for a silver medal
:35:46. > :35:57.in awful conditions -- flag. Alain went on to clear 4.50 and run away
:35:58. > :36:06.with it. -- Alaina Boyd. That Alana Boyd. Very entertaining javelin
:36:07. > :36:15.competition. Keshorn Walcott did not have enough to chase down the lead
:36:16. > :36:22.of Julius Yego. Tough competition -- conditions and a great competition.
:36:23. > :36:28.The triple jumpers, there was no reprieve there either. All these
:36:29. > :36:35.jumps were in the early rounds. Mokoena was in the second round.
:36:36. > :36:54.Tosin Oke, championed last time around had his season's best.
:36:55. > :36:59.Possibly the favourite, Singh had to settle for Raunds. The next
:37:00. > :37:05.athletics is the European Championships -- bronze. We had
:37:06. > :37:10.there from August 12. A whole new crop of names for a lot of these
:37:11. > :37:13.British-based athletes to compete against. They will be testing
:37:14. > :37:19.themselves against another corner of the world. We are almost all done
:37:20. > :37:28.here. Quick headline of your favourite moment. Everyone comes in
:37:29. > :37:40.with different stresses and she had no excuses, she had to win a medal.
:37:41. > :37:52.She was running well stop --. I thought Lindsay Sharp was fantastic.
:37:53. > :37:57.A brilliant silver medal. Jodie Williams and Bianca Williams for me.
:37:58. > :38:04.That was fantastic. I was going to choose them. Also Jo Pavey. Lots of
:38:05. > :38:12.women and Laura Weightman for Steve Cram. Understandable he would choose
:38:13. > :38:18.his own athlete. We are heading away from Hampden Park. Thank you to all
:38:19. > :38:25.our pundits. Thank you to Hampden Park. A national football stadium,
:38:26. > :38:29.to become a stadium with this atmosphere, it has done the
:38:30. > :38:37.Commonwealth Games proud. Goodbye from all of us at Hampden Park.
:38:38. > :38:42.Thank you very much. My favourite moment, Usain Bolt.
:38:43. > :38:50.He is my favourite sportsperson. Great stuff and tomorrow Hampden
:38:51. > :38:55.Park will host the closing ceremony here on BBC1 from eight o'clock. 50
:38:56. > :38:58.miles away in Edinburgh, the diving has been taking place and Tom Daley
:38:59. > :39:03.was defending his 10m platform title. He took a silver medal
:39:04. > :39:23.yesterday but he was favourite to win tonight. We join it in the first
:39:24. > :39:29.round. Already ground to make up. Tom Daley, ready to start. Slightly
:39:30. > :39:35.different version of it than we have seen so far.
:39:36. > :39:56.When he performed this died this morning, we will give you a heads up
:39:57. > :40:03.-- dive. It was good. Hello, Tom Daley! Welcome to the men's 10m
:40:04. > :40:09.platform final. This is a defending champion, that is his first dive and
:40:10. > :40:22.he is going to get knives and perhaps even some towns. He has
:40:23. > :40:47.capitalised -- nines and tendons. -- tens. What a massive swing. Good
:40:48. > :41:07.standing for Australia. This is Matt Dixon. This needs to be very good.
:41:08. > :41:16.It is a tremendous entry into the water. He is a little bit untidy as
:41:17. > :41:26.he gets in. The jump is good. He is only 14 years old. He reaches back,
:41:27. > :41:36.tips his feet over. He is loving this. A little bit of a wobble.
:41:37. > :41:59.Middle of the pack in terms of marks. Matthew Mitcham now. A big
:42:00. > :42:11.margin to make up. 99 would take him into the lead, but that is not
:42:12. > :42:18.likely. Or is it? A beautiful arm balance, he has cranked up the start
:42:19. > :42:25.a bit too much. He could not stop that rotation. A tricky dive to do.
:42:26. > :42:29.It is a real pain, so will many twists. It is very EEC two over
:42:30. > :42:36.rotator and that is what Matthew Mitcham has done. He is lagging
:42:37. > :43:02.behind -- it is very EEC to over rotator. -- easy. Tom Daley's next
:43:03. > :43:14.dive. Back to half somersaults. -- two and a half. He will compose
:43:15. > :43:23.himself. Take a long time over this. Look at the mannerisms and facial
:43:24. > :43:29.expressions. It is better than this morning, it he still struggled with
:43:30. > :43:36.it. That is a step in the right direction. Not as good as he did in
:43:37. > :43:43.Mexico. He is not extending his legs out of the diving board. He needs an
:43:44. > :43:50.11 metre platform to take off like that. The problem is at the start,
:43:51. > :43:54.not as relaxed as he needs to be. He is watching the replay, the judges
:43:55. > :44:03.do not see the replay, but that is out of the way. Even though it was
:44:04. > :44:15.not up to scratch for Tom Daley, it is a massive swing to him. This
:44:16. > :44:23.young man is relishing the chance of performing in front of this
:44:24. > :44:41.audience. It is Matthew Dixon. A former gymnast and now a diver. You
:44:42. > :44:46.can see the strapping on his arm. It is a great take-off. So composed, so
:44:47. > :44:59.will balance. You can see his gymnastics background. It is almost
:45:00. > :45:06.like a bolt. -- vault. Crying fit a little bit too much and over it
:45:07. > :45:27.goes. -- cranks it a little bit too much. It is James Denny. His next
:45:28. > :45:43.dive is one that I have seen on YouTube. It will be hard for this to
:45:44. > :45:49.be without a splash. That is one of the dives that he used last night
:45:50. > :46:03.with Tom Daley in the synchronisation.
:46:04. > :46:09.backs of his legs. It is a difficult dive, and when it goes wrong, it can
:46:10. > :46:16.go drastically wrong. He will drop down the leaderboard with that one.
:46:17. > :46:27.Ooi Tze Liang needs to get it back on track with this one.
:46:28. > :46:33.LEON TAYLOR: That IS back on track. His easiest dive. Such a strong
:46:34. > :46:40.athlete, he leaps off the diving board. He will get eights on that.
:46:41. > :46:45.Will he go to the top of the leaderboard? Yes.
:46:46. > :47:04.BOB BALLARD: For the time being, he will.
:47:05. > :47:23.Riendeau next, 3.4 difficulty. Oh, he has taken it on. Wow! This was a
:47:24. > :47:29.good dive. 3.4, it is tricky. Anything above 70 points is good, 75
:47:30. > :47:36.points, even better. And up into the higher echelons we go. I would not
:47:37. > :47:46.be at all surprised if this young man is on the podium later on today.
:47:47. > :47:53.Great attitude. Oh, that is a good dive from Mitchum. He manages to
:47:54. > :48:00.keep the splash down. He does go slightly over vertical. He will only
:48:01. > :48:05.get 8.5s maybe. He needed to be completely bolt upright to get
:48:06. > :48:14.enough pressure on Tom Daley. This was a big dive, though. Well, he got
:48:15. > :48:20.450 total this morning. Delightful Matt Mitcham. He has come close to
:48:21. > :48:28.emulating what he did this morning, but still has not quite done it.
:48:29. > :48:35.In terms of tariff, the weakest dive for Tom Daley. That does not always
:48:36. > :48:44.translate into how it looks in execution.
:48:45. > :48:56.Oh, he is just - just - missed that slightly. He has been working so
:48:57. > :49:03.hard on this. A really good, strong start. Just rolling over as he goes
:49:04. > :49:13.into the water. He will get 8.5s. Probably not good enough for a nine.
:49:14. > :49:15.But he will be over 80 points. So, we have reached halfway, and it is
:49:16. > :49:32.looking good for Tom Daley. What a dive from the 14-year-old
:49:33. > :49:40.from Plymouth! He has absolutely smashed it! Wow! That is what he is
:49:41. > :49:50.capable of. There will be some big scores coming his way. I am liking
:49:51. > :49:53.that! ! Good work, Matthew Dixon. Well, physically he might look out
:49:54. > :50:05.of place here. But those marks are not. 81.6. This will send him
:50:06. > :50:11.towards 300 points, if he gets it right. And he does! I thought he was
:50:12. > :50:21.out way too early, that he knows exactly where he is. Good awareness
:50:22. > :50:24.in the air. Do you know where you when you are spinning around and
:50:25. > :50:34.falling down towards the Earth at breakneck speed? No! Yes, is the
:50:35. > :50:43.answer, for Ooi Tze Liang. His coach, himself, an exceptional diver
:50:44. > :50:46.in his day. Oh, that is not as good as this morning, but it is plenty
:50:47. > :50:58.good enough for him to stay in the lead. 3.7 degree of difficulty. Tom
:50:59. > :51:05.has got a great take-off. This morning, he went over 100 points.
:51:06. > :51:10.This will be close to 80. But Tom is way out in front. Matt Mitcham is
:51:11. > :51:17.not really featuring. I do not think he is even in the top three. He is
:51:18. > :51:31.not. Tom Daley is miles ahead of everybody else.
:51:32. > :51:35.Matt Dixon, the 14-year-old from Plymouth, is acquitting himself
:51:36. > :52:03.very, very well indeed. Nice! Just a little over rotation.
:52:04. > :52:11.It is a big dive for him. Looking at where you have been, not where you
:52:12. > :52:15.are going. Just throwing a bit of splash up. Still,
:52:16. > :52:17.are going. Just throwing a bit of better than he did this morning.
:52:18. > :52:25.Yes, he only got fives on this this morning. That will be 6.5s. Good
:52:26. > :52:28.work, Matthew Dixon. In four years' time, when he gets to the Gold
:52:29. > :52:33.Coast, he will have filled out a bit, and he will be a completely
:52:34. > :52:38.different competitor. Yes, much better than it was this morning.
:52:39. > :52:42.Obviously, it is a different dive. He is playing safe. I think he has
:52:43. > :52:46.left himself too much to do to challenge Tom Daley for the gold,
:52:47. > :52:50.but he is having to fight for the silver. Will that be enough to get
:52:51. > :52:56.him closer to the Canadian and to the Malaysian? It is OK, but it is
:52:57. > :53:02.not good enough. I have seen him score straight tens on this dive. He
:53:03. > :53:10.is not going to get a medal, and that would be a turn-up for the
:53:11. > :53:18.books. It would indeed. Oh, it is incredible! Tens! Tens!
:53:19. > :53:24.Come on, judges, you might as well. That is perfect! This is textbook,
:53:25. > :53:28.this is Tom Daley pretty much diving for the gold! If the judges do not
:53:29. > :53:35.give it a ten, well, I think they are wrong. This is perfection. 100
:53:36. > :53:44.points, here we come. I thought you had just joined the Strictly Come
:53:45. > :53:55.Dancing judge -- judging panel there, for a moment.
:53:56. > :54:06.So, Tom Daley looks like he is going to go over 500. In second place,
:54:07. > :54:13.Vincent Riendeau. But look how tight it is for bronze at the moment. A
:54:14. > :54:24.huge cheer once again for the little man. That is the view that Matthew
:54:25. > :54:32.Dixon has of what he is about to do. Oh, he has really gone for its. He
:54:33. > :54:40.actually landed on the head of the 10m board. Just a little bit of over
:54:41. > :54:43.rotation. Just drifting over vertical. What a performance from
:54:44. > :54:55.this young boy. Great work. Yes, and we will see more of him.
:54:56. > :55:05.European Championships, World Championships next year.
:55:06. > :55:19.Oh, that is OK, it is pretty good. This was the dive that got them out
:55:20. > :55:24.of trouble in the synchro yesterday. Tom, just not quite straightening
:55:25. > :55:32.out into the water. He will probably get 6.5s from the judges. A bit less
:55:33. > :55:34.splash, it would have been eights, and that would have been a huge
:55:35. > :55:47.score. An average of just over seven is
:55:48. > :55:53.what he needs, with four more to go. That is a beauty from Ooi Tze Liang,
:55:54. > :55:59.but will it be good enough for the bronze? He won gold in the 3m
:56:00. > :56:09.individual, beating Jack Laugher, to the surprise of many. He has saved
:56:10. > :56:14.his best till last. Pressure is on. Will that be good enough for silver?
:56:15. > :56:31.75 will put Riendeau in the lead. Very smooth, very precise. Great
:56:32. > :56:42.entry. That 3.2, needs to make it count. So, he needs eights. I do not
:56:43. > :56:51.know. A little bit short of vertical as he goes into the water. The
:56:52. > :56:57.Canadian, only 17 years old, he will be back. I think we are seeing
:56:58. > :57:02.someone who is going to grow. This is now a demonstration dive for Tom
:57:03. > :57:08.Daley, cars he needs ten points! He will want to go out with a flourish.
:57:09. > :57:13.He wants to get more than 500 marks. That is his territory, that is his
:57:14. > :57:21.domain. And this is the final dive for Tom Daley for gold at the
:57:22. > :57:23.Commonwealth Games. There you go. Outstanding from Tom Daley,
:57:24. > :57:28.retaining his Commonwealth Games title which he won four years ago,
:57:29. > :57:34.in Delhi. Here he is again, in Glasgow, winning by an absolute
:57:35. > :57:42.country mile. He will go away over 500 points. 90 plus for this one.
:57:43. > :57:48.The questions around what he has been doing, he has silenced his
:57:49. > :57:50.critics. Gold for Tom Daley. This will tell you exactly what you need
:57:51. > :58:13.to know. Matthew Dixon, watch out for him in
:58:14. > :58:17.four years' time, in ninth place. I am delighted to say that Tom Daley
:58:18. > :58:25.joins us now. Any congratulations, that was a sensational performance.
:58:26. > :58:28.Yes, I mean, it was really nice to go into the last round knowing that
:58:29. > :58:33.I did not actually have to do my last dive to get a medal. It was
:58:34. > :58:42.just about going out and giving it my best shot. It was a huge victory.
:58:43. > :58:46.You came into the Games in great form, you had a personal best in
:58:47. > :58:52.June, so you must have been confident? Yes. I had been in really
:58:53. > :58:55.good shape with my diving. Everything has been feeling really
:58:56. > :59:00.good. For me, it was about making sure that I did six solid dives in
:59:01. > :59:07.the preliminaries, and six solid dives in the final. I ended up
:59:08. > :59:13.qualifying in first, and in the final, I wanted to stay out in front
:59:14. > :59:16.the whole way. The Demon dive did not go terribly well this morning,
:59:17. > :59:21.but it was much better this evening? Yes, I have been doing a
:59:22. > :59:26.lot of work on it, and each time I do it, it is getting better and
:59:27. > :59:38.better. Hopefully, going into Rio, it will be one of my better dives.
:59:39. > :59:42.You must be looking forward to Rio now, even though it is two years
:59:43. > :59:47.away, and I will tell you, it is not a bad place? Yes, we have got
:59:48. > :59:51.another two years to go, and a lot more hard work. We have got to
:59:52. > :59:56.qualify first. Next year at the World Championships in Russia, I
:59:57. > :00:02.have to come in the top 12. Then, in the World Cup, in 2016, you have to
:00:03. > :00:10.come in the top 18 in that, to solidify your position. Would you
:00:11. > :00:15.stay with us, we are moving over to BBC Two? Yes, I will be here. Stay
:00:16. > :00:52.with us, what a night it has been! # I wish this would be over now.
