:01:08. > :01:15.Superb ride by the English pair. She is miles ahead. It is the gold medal
:01:16. > :01:23.to England. Look what it means. He claims the gold medal. Another
:01:24. > :01:28.British Commonwealth record. What a finish and Laura Trott delivered
:01:29. > :01:33.again when it mattered right at the end.
:01:34. > :01:37.Welcome to Day Five of the Commonwealth Games.
:01:38. > :01:39.I've got good news and bad news for you.
:01:40. > :01:43.The bad news is that this time next week, it'll all have come to
:01:44. > :01:46.an end here in Glasgow. The good news is there's
:01:47. > :01:48.still seven days to enjoy! The track cycling may be over but
:01:49. > :01:51.the Athletics is in full flow this morning and lots of other events
:01:52. > :01:53.are drawing to their conclusion. There are 27 Gold Medals
:01:54. > :01:55.at stake today and Northern Ireland will have high hopes of winning
:01:56. > :02:16.their first this morning. They are in the finals in the men's
:02:17. > :02:21.triples in the bowls. Northern Ireland play South Africa.
:02:22. > :02:23.their first this morning. At Hampden Park, Welsh Team Captain
:02:24. > :02:26.Aled Davies leads the way. The Paralympic and World Champion
:02:27. > :02:28.in action in an hour?s time. Then another 2012 star takes to
:02:29. > :02:30.the track. Grenada's Kirani James is
:02:31. > :02:35.in the heats for the 400 metres. And then some of the Home Nations
:02:36. > :02:38.Middle distance stars are in action. Hannah England and the Lauras -
:02:39. > :02:45.Weightman and Muir - are in the 1500m heats.
:02:46. > :02:54.So here are the timings so you can plan your next few hours.
:02:55. > :02:58.At around 9.20 we'll be live at the bowls to see how that
:02:59. > :03:03.Northern Irish trio of Paul Daly, Neil Mulholland and Neil Booth are
:03:04. > :03:10.faring as they bid to win their nation?s first gold.
:03:11. > :03:18.We'll be dipping in and out of that match all morning
:03:19. > :03:21.as we also cover that first morning session of athletics.
:03:22. > :03:23.That starts just after 10:00am at Hampden with
:03:24. > :03:25.the Welsh team captain, Aled Davies, competing in that final
:03:26. > :03:29.of the Men's para sport discus. The decathlon gets underway
:03:30. > :03:31.just after 10:00am with the first event the 100 metres.
:03:32. > :03:32.Then at 11:25 there's sure to be a Hampden roar
:03:33. > :03:34.as Olympic Champion, Kirani James, takes to the track
:03:35. > :03:37.in the 400m heats. And then just after midday some
:03:38. > :03:39.of the great array of British middle distance running are
:03:40. > :03:42.in the women's 1500 metres heats. Hannah England and Laura Wightman
:03:43. > :03:43.in action for England and Laura Muir for Scotland.
:03:44. > :03:46.We'll also have Scotland's Paralympic sprint star
:03:47. > :03:52.Libby Clegg in action, so a packed morning of Athletics ahead.
:03:53. > :03:54.Over on BBC Three this morning you can see the start of that gold medal
:03:55. > :03:58.lawn bowls match between Northern Ireland and South Africa.
:03:59. > :04:05.We will be joining it live, just a little bit later.
:04:06. > :04:08.And on the Red Button there's men?s hockey
:04:09. > :04:11.- South Africa against Australia and on some digital providers, if
:04:12. > :04:14.you then press the blue menu button you'll get more live sport options.
:04:15. > :04:18.And throughout the day you can watch every sport live on the BBC Sport
:04:19. > :04:20.website to see what's on. And all that works
:04:21. > :04:24.on your mobile device as well, so if you're out and about or even at work
:04:25. > :04:28.you shouldn't have to miss a thing. Now, before we get going with
:04:29. > :04:34.today's events in Glasgow let's look back after
:04:35. > :04:41.what's been an incredible four days at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome.
:04:42. > :04:42.The track cycling came to an end yesterday and, not for the first
:04:43. > :04:49.time, the home nations gave a packed crowd plenty more to cheer about.
:04:50. > :05:03.Away goes out Aileen McGlynn. It looked like a clean start. The raw
:05:04. > :05:11.goes up around the arena. A superb ride. Sophie Thornhill, the world
:05:12. > :05:15.champion from England underway. Helen Scott on the front of the
:05:16. > :05:25.tandem. This English tandem is flying at the moment. 1.45 seconds
:05:26. > :05:34.quicker. 1.5 seconds quicker than the Scottish tandem and the gold
:05:35. > :05:42.medal goes to England. What a race this is going to be. Bits of bumping
:05:43. > :05:53.and barging. Webster has his front wheel in front. The 21-year-old
:05:54. > :06:00.takes it for Australia. Jessica varnish with the chance to win her
:06:01. > :06:05.second bronze medal. Bronze for England and for Jess varnish. It is
:06:06. > :06:11.the all Australian matchup between Stephanie Morton, the rising star
:06:12. > :06:17.and Anna Meares. She has to win this race otherwise Stephanie Morton will
:06:18. > :06:23.be the new Commonwealth champion. Has Anna Meares got enough to
:06:24. > :06:30.challenge? No, she hasn't and the Commonwealth title changes hands.
:06:31. > :06:38.They take the bell. Glenn O'Shea is on his wheel. Archibald is being
:06:39. > :06:46.chased by Glenn O'Shea all the way. Shane Archbold from New Zealand is
:06:47. > :06:55.the champion. Elinor Barker hits the front. Can she held on and get the
:06:56. > :06:59.points? Yes she can. She is now in the gold medal position by a single
:07:00. > :07:03.point ahead of Laura Trott. What a final lap this is going to be as
:07:04. > :07:08.Katie Archibald world goes around the outside. They are coming around
:07:09. > :07:14.on the outside. It is Laura Trott for England. Scotland lead the way
:07:15. > :07:22.with Katie Archibald. Elinor Barker right on the line. Laura Trott takes
:07:23. > :07:31.the Commonwealth title. Elinor Barker gets the silver for Wales.
:07:32. > :07:34.And two of the stars from the track have joined us - England's
:07:35. > :07:35.Jess Varnish and Wales' Elinor Barker.
:07:36. > :07:47.Both double medallists from Glasgow. Was it a good early start of the
:07:48. > :07:53.year? It is not too bad. What an incredible finish. What was it like
:07:54. > :08:04.for you? You did not know the result until you moments after? I was sure
:08:05. > :08:09.Laura had got it. I was a little bit heartbroken to see a had not got it.
:08:10. > :08:15.Laura Trott was congratulating you because she thought you had got it.
:08:16. > :08:19.Yes. She was rubbing it in a little bit! Going through that, you were
:08:20. > :08:27.leading her going into the final sprint lap. What was going through
:08:28. > :08:33.your mind? It would have been better, there were a couple of girls
:08:34. > :08:37.going off the front and it would have been better for me going off
:08:38. > :08:44.the front. The more people in front of me do better to get us out of the
:08:45. > :08:48.point scoring. They got brought back and Katie Archibald gave me an
:08:49. > :08:55.amazing lead-out. Not purposely, but I did not have enough to come around
:08:56. > :09:01.her and Laura did. Incredible result, one, two, three for the home
:09:02. > :09:05.nations. But for you as riders in that environment in the points race,
:09:06. > :09:12.it is quite difficult to keep track of, but for you, how do you know
:09:13. > :09:19.what you have got to do? How do you keep track? You just try and win,
:09:20. > :09:27.anything else is a consolation prize. The last sprint is, it was
:09:28. > :09:31.working out how many points I had to beat certain people buy, or how many
:09:32. > :09:36.points I could let people beat me by. Silver and a bronze from
:09:37. > :09:42.Glasgow, and massive congratulations. Just, double
:09:43. > :09:50.medallist in Glasgow, the K adding to your sprint yesterday. What was
:09:51. > :09:51.that like rush to mark great to finish, disappointing finish for
:09:52. > :09:57.Anna Meares, but great to finish in third spot washed and Mark on
:09:58. > :10:01.Saturday, getting drawn against Anna Meares in the semifinal, I was
:10:02. > :10:08.determined to beat her for the first time. It was really close on the
:10:09. > :10:14.line, but I could not hold her off. I wanted to go out there yesterday
:10:15. > :10:25.and get the bronze medal. It is so easy when you have had a night to
:10:26. > :10:40.think about it and not be able to come back and win. I was happy to do
:10:41. > :10:44.that yesterday. Watching you in your semifinal here, how close are you
:10:45. > :10:49.reckon you are to her, she went on to win her eighth Commonwealth Games
:10:50. > :10:55.medal and is a legend on the track, but how close do you think you are
:10:56. > :11:02.to her and will be beating her in these events? It is the closest I
:11:03. > :11:08.have ever got. She said yesterday after being beaten in the final by
:11:09. > :11:10.her team-mate, she thinks yesterday racing against me was hard. It is
:11:11. > :11:12.closing all of these tiny gaps and you have to gain more experience
:11:13. > :11:13.every time I race. It is tiny margins within sprinting. The thing
:11:14. > :11:16.is having these events back to back, it is being able to recover.
:11:17. > :11:23.How difficult was it to recover from your first race and then go into the
:11:24. > :11:28.sprint as well? We train everyday back-to-back, we are used to having
:11:29. > :11:32.this amount of volume in our training, so it is something we are
:11:33. > :11:36.used to doing. Cycling has been talk about is being an incredible
:11:37. > :11:41.atmosphere at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome. You both had a team-mate
:11:42. > :11:45.missing, Becky James, she would have been with the Welsh team, how much
:11:46. > :11:50.would she have missed that atmosphere? She is such a great
:11:51. > :11:58.person and team-mate, she came to support everybody. She could have
:11:59. > :12:04.been here winning medals, ideally. I was disappointed for her. Hopefully
:12:05. > :12:09.she will come back fighting from the injury and I guess, some fantastic
:12:10. > :12:16.sprinting and endurance possibilities looking ahead to Rio?
:12:17. > :12:19.Definitely, now we are allowed to have more riders in the individual
:12:20. > :12:24.event is now in the sprint teams. There will be a bigger team in Rio
:12:25. > :12:29.ban there was in London. Looking forward to that, but you have given
:12:30. > :12:33.us a few days of pleasure. Congratulations and thanks for
:12:34. > :12:41.coming in this morning. Two cyclists this morning.
:12:42. > :12:43.Both double medallists from Glasgow. There's plenty more cycling to come
:12:44. > :12:46.here in Glasgow, so if you need your two wheel fix,
:12:47. > :12:49.you can look forward to the Mountain biking which starts tomorrow on
:12:50. > :12:52.the Cathkin Braes Country trails. And then they're off the dirt and
:12:53. > :12:56.on the road with the Time Trial, which takes place on Thursday.
:12:57. > :13:01.Then the road race is on Sunday - the final morning
:13:02. > :13:08.of the entire Commonwealth Games. But this morning, we have
:13:09. > :13:11.a full athletics programme for you. For Wales, the hopes
:13:12. > :13:11.of a nation sit on the shoulders of team captain, Paralympic
:13:12. > :13:13.and World Champion, Aled Davies. He did his bit in taking the Queen's
:13:14. > :13:14.Baton on its journey to the Glasgow but it'll be a gold medal he hopes
:13:15. > :13:15.to bring back to his home country. Big in stature and big
:13:16. > :13:16.in personality, if there's one man who can carry the burden
:13:17. > :13:35.of being a favourite, it's Aled. When we saw you win the medal in the
:13:36. > :13:40.Paralympics in London 2012, your celebration was ecstatic and
:13:41. > :13:46.outrageous. Take us back to that moment again, what was it like?
:13:47. > :13:51.After the hard years of working, it was every emotion possible. Every
:13:52. > :13:57.emotion you can imagine came a flooded out. People asked if I had
:13:58. > :14:01.planned that. But I had won the gold medal and it was relief of eight
:14:02. > :14:05.years of hard work and the ups and downs and the emotional
:14:06. > :14:09.roller-coaster, had finally paid off. I wanted to go mad and run
:14:10. > :14:20.round like a wild animal. And so you did! To be named captain of Wales,
:14:21. > :14:24.it was a very special moment. I am unpatriotic it is so putting on the
:14:25. > :14:29.Welsh vest will be something I will cherish. My mum is as Welsh can be,
:14:30. > :14:33.so she is over the moon. I am finally giving back. All of the hard
:14:34. > :14:38.work they have put into me growing up, being my taxi service, being
:14:39. > :14:46.there for me during night operations, through the tough times,
:14:47. > :14:50.this is why it is worth it and hopefully I can do them proud. I am
:14:51. > :14:58.going in for the gold medal. It will be a tough competition but I believe
:14:59. > :14:59.I can win it. We can go in there and we can win the medals. Representing
:15:00. > :15:01.your I can win it. We can go in there and
:15:02. > :15:08.we can win the medals. country is always a special moment. On the
:15:09. > :15:12.podium in London wearing a Great Britain the best and singing God
:15:13. > :15:17.Save The Queen, was a special moment. I am going in there now and
:15:18. > :15:24.I will go for the gold and I am leading it. I think about the Welsh
:15:25. > :15:31.national anthem. Being on the podium is something that does spur me on.
:15:32. > :15:34.We have other nonnormal team in Cardiff and we have changed a lot of
:15:35. > :15:40.things, but we have changed things technically. Based on able-bodied
:15:41. > :15:51.throwers, we have adapted things to take it to the next level. I did an
:15:52. > :15:58.eight-month rehab last year. I have come out with a fresh MOT, injury
:15:59. > :16:02.free, ready to rock. I am really looking forward to
:16:03. > :16:06.breaking the 15 metre barrier. I know I can do it, I have done it in
:16:07. > :17:36.training. I want to do it on the big stage.
:17:37. > :17:41.Now, let us slow the pace down a little. Let us talk about lawn
:17:42. > :17:43.bowls. The game may not be
:17:44. > :17:45.an adrenaline-fuelled, speed-hungry But in its strategy and precision
:17:46. > :17:49.it's no less intriguing. And we had exactly that yesterday
:17:50. > :17:52.at Kelvingrove. Let's head now to
:17:53. > :17:55.the lawn bowls centre where you can see the greens in the shadow of some
:17:56. > :17:58.of the university buildings. And watching all today's action
:17:59. > :18:04.for us will be Rishi Persad. Rishi it's another morning that
:18:05. > :18:08.promises plenty of excitement. Let me first ask you about
:18:09. > :18:11.yesterday's drama, the men's pairs I'm not sure
:18:12. > :18:28.if it's lawn bowls terminology, It was. A thriller. People here this
:18:29. > :18:33.morning ahead of the action today are still talking about yesterday,
:18:34. > :18:39.the semifinal between Scotland and England, England leading by one,
:18:40. > :18:44.going into the final end, Alex Marshall with the last two,
:18:45. > :18:49.producing two amazing deliveries. Celebrations are legendary. And
:18:50. > :18:52.looking at the celebrations of the Scottish fans, they knew how
:18:53. > :19:01.difficult the task was for Alex Marshall, his partner Paul Foster
:19:02. > :19:04.alongside him. And the coach celebrating like you don't normally
:19:05. > :19:09.see on a lawn bowls green. An amazing finish to that match, they
:19:10. > :19:14.are in the final today against Malaysia. That is due at 1245, in
:19:15. > :19:20.the gold-medal match. Taking place is the final of the
:19:21. > :19:26.men's triples, Northern Ireland are against South Africa. Last time,
:19:27. > :19:31.Northern Ireland won a medal back in 1988. Their skipper was Neil Booth.
:19:32. > :19:36.He is the skip again today in Glasgow, playing in what he says is
:19:37. > :19:39.his last international match. What a way to go out with a gold medal, up
:19:40. > :19:49.against a very tough South African team. They are in the fifth end, it
:19:50. > :19:55.is very tight between both teams, 18 ends, the highest score wins. We
:19:56. > :19:57.will head up to the commentary box and get the latest from Paul
:19:58. > :20:15.Mitchell and John Price. It has certainly been better than
:20:16. > :20:22.dropping short, which has been a problem with his second shot.
:20:23. > :20:41.Yes, an ideal position at the back, quite central. He has passed the
:20:42. > :20:52.jack. Paul Daly. Not so good. South Africa, Jason Evans. Supporting his
:20:53. > :21:24.team-mates. Paul Daly, playing in the international series.
:21:25. > :21:53.A great effort. Urging that to come back in. A good weight again.
:21:54. > :22:11.A chance along beforehand, Neil. -- forehand.
:22:12. > :22:25.An easy looking, smooth delivery from Neil Mulholland. Just swinging
:22:26. > :22:32.through. You can see what he was trying. To
:22:33. > :22:38.put some weight onto shot. He could have easily got in result from that.
:22:39. > :22:39.But he missed the line. Steady rather than spectacular at the
:22:40. > :22:47.moment. Neither side want to make any
:22:48. > :23:00.mistake and fall behind. Bobby Donnelly for South Africa.
:23:01. > :23:30.That is good, very good. Let us see if Neil Booth plays the
:23:31. > :23:51.same ball. -- bowl. He needs to get in here.
:23:52. > :24:13.Bobby Donnelly will be looking at what he had to play and what his
:24:14. > :24:18.opponent will possibly play after him.
:24:19. > :24:25.Yes, he might just go deep, to the back of the rink. And try to cover
:24:26. > :25:21.those. South Africa are lying three.
:25:22. > :25:32.It should be the same bowl, he is looking for the shot bowl. Is it
:25:33. > :25:38.good enough? He has cleared something. And also knocked his own
:25:39. > :25:51.out. I don't think he is in too much danger. Two shots.
:25:52. > :26:01.He is off target. Still a couple down, though.
:26:02. > :27:03.And he took a couple of South African balls with him. -- bowls.
:27:04. > :27:13.Former British Isles singles champion, Paul Daly.
:27:14. > :28:59.Well played. That is a good bowl again.
:29:00. > :29:09.He needs a thin rub. It was too thick.
:29:10. > :29:15.Same bowl as your last. A chance to close in. To push on the
:29:16. > :29:39.front bowl. It is now one down. A bit unlucky
:29:40. > :29:43.there. It is not -- it is not terrible because that bowl is easily
:29:44. > :29:57.accessible. The problem is with Bobby Donnelly.
:29:58. > :30:07.Rugby fan, Bobby Donnelly. He likes his sport. He will be celebrating
:30:08. > :30:13.after last night. Yes, South Africa taking the gold medal in the rugby
:30:14. > :30:16.sevens. A great game as well, both teams turning over possession at the
:30:17. > :30:21.end. South Africa defeating New teams turning over possession at the
:30:22. > :30:23.Zealand. New Zealand losing in the rugby sevens for the first time in
:30:24. > :30:54.the bowl. Rate opportunity for Neil
:30:55. > :30:59.Booth. Great chants. -- chants. Not sure he needs all that weight. Won't
:31:00. > :31:08.get back in the wide line with that kind of weight. Decided to go with
:31:09. > :31:19.the extra bit of running. I realise he does not want to lead it short.
:31:20. > :31:25.He is going to get a second chance. Two rout bowls by Bobby. Real
:31:26. > :31:36.opportunity for Neil Booth to convert something. How have you
:31:37. > :31:49.played the wait? He kept the weight. Played it much too heavy. Needed
:31:50. > :32:02.more control and could not find it. Just the single shot. That is the
:32:03. > :32:11.position. Just the last three ends, starting to establish a little
:32:12. > :32:42.pattern. Neil was a little anxious to get that, tried too hard.
:32:43. > :33:02.Man who is used to pulling a few pints. Barman in a sports club. He
:33:03. > :33:09.is a good man to know. Always keep friendly with the barmen. We will
:33:10. > :33:18.have to introduce ourselves. If he beats you, he will still give you a
:33:19. > :33:29.pint. Nice touch from the president of the sports club Bowls section to
:33:30. > :33:45.give him a special sendoff. Made his South African debut last year. The
:33:46. > :33:53.sun is breaking through and warming up. It should help the green
:33:54. > :33:57.conditions. Paul Daly likes the sun on his back. Now Gerry Baker, he is
:33:58. > :34:06.not very impressed by those two bowls. You cannot make everybody
:34:07. > :34:14.happy. Must have got out of bed the wrong side this morning, I think.
:34:15. > :34:26.Certain things will make skip cross and one of them is short holes.
:34:27. > :34:33.South Africa don't want to play too many loose ends, they got away with
:34:34. > :35:00.it last time. Building again for Northern Ireland. Not quite.
:35:01. > :35:28.On his backhand. Another loose one. Oh dear. Who is under there? They
:35:29. > :35:43.get everywhere. This is Smurf, second visit to the bowls. I wonder
:35:44. > :35:58.what he thought? I am going to work the Smurf outfit today!
:35:59. > :36:09.A variety of spectators in today. It is the first real fancy dress we
:36:10. > :36:28.have had, to be fair. We will see if it catches on.
:36:29. > :36:45.Plenty of weight on this. That is a really good strike. What a hit that
:36:46. > :36:51.was! Great way to get rid of some frustration. Perfect. Could not have
:36:52. > :37:08.hit that any better. Marker to show where the Jack is.
:37:09. > :37:35.Lot of space to draw into. Will he stop in time? He has lost it. When
:37:36. > :37:43.you are down, you do get short. Still has one more chance. You
:37:44. > :38:23.expect Bobby to put one inside now. After the forehand. Wide line. That
:38:24. > :38:34.has got to be beaten. Not particularly close, but Neil is to
:38:35. > :39:02.make an adjustment now. Needs to stop. Good this time. Well played.
:39:03. > :39:15.Only one double in the six ends. He needed that one, to break the run
:39:16. > :39:19.from South Africa. Little discussion, not sure what they are
:39:20. > :39:24.going to do on the length. May go short, three quarters. Seems to be
:39:25. > :40:07.the favoured length for the guys from Northern Ireland.
:40:08. > :41:12.Good opening bowl by Paul Daly. Neluonde, equally good.
:41:13. > :41:28.Another good bowl. Nice work, indeed. Very solid at the moment.
:41:29. > :41:40.Not giving Paul Daly too much of an advantage, so doing a good job. Neil
:41:41. > :42:05.will be trying to run through this. Does not want the gap.
:42:06. > :42:12.Not sure he could have had a better result by knocking the Northern
:42:13. > :42:42.Ireland bowl away. Doing well. He is going off the other side. Just
:42:43. > :42:49.missed. Plenty of weight on that. He is a little frustrated at himself
:42:50. > :42:55.will stop I think he felt he had played enough weight to hold it.
:42:56. > :43:03.That would have been very quick. Got a situation the sun has come out and
:43:04. > :43:20.drying the green out so they will do a bit more. Should hang out from
:43:21. > :43:27.there. Bad position. If there is a little half or a flick, it is not
:43:28. > :43:31.too bad. I think Neil is going to gamble. Jack right through to the
:43:32. > :43:40.back. He might clear some of those bowls. This one will not be
:43:41. > :43:52.sauntering its way up! Big drive. He has got something. Not really the
:43:53. > :44:10.kindest of results. Could be two down, I think. The advantage is
:44:11. > :44:17.definitely with South Africa. That was a bit unlucky. Could have got
:44:18. > :44:27.that into the jack. Not such a good target now. His foot is on the very
:44:28. > :44:34.edge of the mat. Little flick would good. Just got an edge. He has gone
:44:35. > :44:39.deep. It is OK. Little bit overweight with that. Just a touch.
:44:40. > :44:46.Little flick might not be that bad either. Northern Ireland certainly
:44:47. > :44:55.would have wanted to measure for the second. Will Neil go again or will
:44:56. > :45:00.he tried to draw this? If he draws it and he gets it, he gives Bobby
:45:01. > :45:12.Donnelly something potentially to take out. It is a draw. Good line
:45:13. > :45:23.again. Very close with this. Just ran past it. Another good attempt.
:45:24. > :45:29.That is the target for Bobby Donnelly. Just run onto that role.
:45:30. > :45:43.He will be happy to draw another one. -- bowl.
:45:44. > :45:53.That is well played. Really good delivery.
:45:54. > :46:02.A couple out. Just calling for the umpire, Bobby Donnelly.
:46:03. > :46:17.Take away the other Tadese Tolas. All developing from the first two
:46:18. > :46:26.players. A good start. Four good opening deliveries.
:46:27. > :46:30.Two at the head already. The gold-medal match, Northern
:46:31. > :46:34.Ireland looking for their first gold medal of the Games, South Africa
:46:35. > :46:44.looking for their third gold medal here at Kelvingrove.
:46:45. > :47:01.The box measure in operation. It is going to be South Africa, I suspect.
:47:02. > :47:23.A very good trouble, with the last bowl of Donnelly. Yes, just a little
:47:24. > :47:33.flick of the hat. A touch of class, isn't it?
:47:34. > :47:45.Not quite the Alex Marshall reaction we got yesterday. A remarkable game
:47:46. > :47:54.against England in the men's pairs. We will see the finals later today.
:47:55. > :47:58.Here, the men's triples, Northern Ireland who specialise in little bit
:47:59. > :48:08.in comebacks, have more work to do. At the moment, South Africa look the
:48:09. > :48:48.better trio. Pretty steady. Paul Daly of Northern Ireland. He
:48:49. > :48:55.has settled down. A few good ends. Let us see what his opposite number
:48:56. > :49:04.does. He has done that a few times, dropping short.
:49:05. > :49:22.A very up bright start to the delivery, almost into a crutch, then
:49:23. > :49:33.away. -- crouch. It is effective, he has been very successful.
:49:34. > :50:08.Pierre Breitnebach are just running around.
:50:09. > :50:17.South Africa, one around, past the jack.
:50:18. > :50:39.That is dedication to your craft. Or you could just have a nap! I think
:50:40. > :50:43.he working hard. That must be the business class photography position
:50:44. > :51:04.where you get to extend yourself out! Laying down on the job.
:51:05. > :51:14.I just wonder whether they will be tempted to play the other side. Oh,
:51:15. > :51:35.I thought he was real! Children everywhere are distraught! I reckon
:51:36. > :51:59.he should be in work! HP 45 for -- P45 for Mr Smurf.
:52:00. > :52:15.So, Bobby Donnelly, the South African skip. He is used to getting
:52:16. > :52:47.his way against Northern Ireland. He won 12 years ago in Manchester.
:52:48. > :52:56.A pocket Clyde, a memento of the Glasgow games.
:52:57. > :53:01.He has proved very popular, has Clyde.
:53:02. > :53:23.Neil Booth. Can he get the connection? It is
:53:24. > :53:29.getting serious now for Northern Ireland. This is a problem, at least
:53:30. > :53:32.three against them now. Neil Booth has pulled on the international
:53:33. > :53:56.jersey of Northern Ireland for the last time today. In the triples.
:53:57. > :54:12.A decent bowl as well. He needs to find a big bowl here. It is a
:54:13. > :54:23.handful. A few worried faces in the Northern Ireland camp. His last
:54:24. > :54:26.international triples match. He will play in the fours for Northern
:54:27. > :54:42.Ireland. A lot more weight, going for the strike. A bit fortunate
:54:43. > :54:49.death, he has cleared two bowls. -- fortunate there.
:54:50. > :54:56.Northern Ireland find themselves in a bit of hot water. We will be back
:54:57. > :54:58.with that triples final a bit later. It continues on the Red Button right
:54:59. > :55:01.now. On some digital providers, if you
:55:02. > :55:04.then press the blue menu button, And throughout the day,
:55:05. > :55:10.you can watch every sport live And all that works
:55:11. > :55:23.on your mobile device as well, so if you're out and about or even at work
:55:24. > :55:33.you shouldn't have to miss a thing. In a moment, we will be live at the
:55:34. > :55:40.athletics. Let us join Ollie Williams and his quest to join every
:55:41. > :55:43.one of the 71 nations. That has taken him on a two Hour Drive to
:55:44. > :55:55.Carnoustie and the shooting venue. Hello, and welcome to the shooting
:55:56. > :56:01.venue, the Barry Buddon shooting context. I am 33 athletes through
:56:02. > :56:05.the challenge to find someone from all 71 nations and territories.
:56:06. > :56:12.There are plenty of nations shooting at the Commonwealth Games. Norfolk
:56:13. > :56:34.Island, if you competitors. Here is the list.
:56:35. > :56:40.A few other nations have had reasonably long journeys, and I am
:56:41. > :56:45.able to come and have a word with Doug Creek from Norfolk Island. How
:56:46. > :56:54.long does it take you to come to Glasgow? 40 hours of travel, last
:56:55. > :57:05.Saturday. Where is Norfolk Island in the world? 1600 kilometres east of
:57:06. > :57:08.Australia. 500 -- and in the middle of the South Pacific.
:57:09. > :57:16.Your family has joined to you. You have been watching, how nervous was
:57:17. > :57:22.he? Very. And so was I? Why was that? Are you an experienced hand at
:57:23. > :57:27.this, what level? This is pretty big, my first Commonwealth Games and
:57:28. > :57:33.really enjoyed it. And nervous but I got through it all stop you happy?
:57:34. > :57:41.Not with my result but happy to get here. Tell me how much you have
:57:42. > :57:50.enjoyed the journey coming all the way over here from Norfolk Island. A
:57:51. > :57:59.lot. Did you find ways of keeping yourself occupied for 44 hours, was
:58:00. > :58:04.it worth it? I think so. Pay resounding vote of confidence! How
:58:05. > :58:09.much time have you got here, will you stay to the end of the
:58:10. > :58:19.competition? Have you other athletes here. Another athlete in the
:58:20. > :58:27.shooting. How much support are you getting from back home? I'm not too
:58:28. > :58:32.sure but we are getting lots of Facebook messages. Family and
:58:33. > :58:39.friends. I am sure everyone is proud of you, well done. Norfolk Island.
:58:40. > :58:43.34 of the Centre one nations and territories, I have a lot of work
:58:44. > :58:52.left to do. Really impressive work. We have
:58:53. > :59:01.another 15 metre shooter, Mick Gault, he equalled the record of 18,
:59:02. > :59:10.whilst medals, we are hoping to seize history today.
:59:11. > :59:15.The latest I have is he was almost certainly going to miss out on
:59:16. > :59:20.qualification this morning. He hasn't qualified for this event this
:59:21. > :59:23.afternoon. He will not get the chance to compete for another medal
:59:24. > :59:26.and to hold the record in his own right.
:59:27. > :59:34.Whether that means he will retire at this point, we do not know. He has
:59:35. > :59:43.missed that chance to hold the record in his own right.
:59:44. > :59:46.Best of luck with your challenge. Ollie will bring you an update
:59:47. > :59:49.on his quest, on Tonight at the Games, this evening,
:59:50. > :59:52.here on BBC One at 10.40pm. Clare Balding and Mark Chapman
:59:53. > :00:09.joined by lots of special guests. Time to head for Hampden Park and
:00:10. > :00:14.the first morning session of the athletics. A little insight into how
:00:15. > :01:22.they get the stadium up and running. stunts at home. The football stadium
:01:23. > :01:29.has been fitted with a temporary running track, but it looks
:01:30. > :01:35.fantastic. We can join Jonathan and the team. The atmosphere must be
:01:36. > :01:41.fantastic? Good morning everybody. It certainly is. Hampden Park
:01:42. > :01:52.transformed into an athletic Stadium. Great crowd in here. I
:01:53. > :02:00.think there was a few issues with queueing this morning but it has
:02:01. > :02:02.filled up well. Denise Lewis, Colin Jackson and Baroness Tanni
:02:03. > :02:03.Grey-Thompson are joining me. I am very glad Baroness Tanni
:02:04. > :02:11.Grey-Thompson is here, she has lots of titles. Good morning. Lovely to
:02:12. > :02:20.be back doing athletics. This morning we have a pact session. The
:02:21. > :02:43.decathlon, that gets underway. 400 metres. And one final, F42? Yes,
:02:44. > :02:48.Aled Davies. Dan throws further than our lead, but because of their
:02:49. > :02:58.impairment, they are competing against each other. Let's show you
:02:59. > :02:59.the timetable. against each other. Let's show you
:03:00. > :03:14.the timetable. The stadium does look fantastic. Three races. Libby Clegg
:03:15. > :03:29.from Scotland, great hopes for her to get a medal. High jump has been
:03:30. > :03:43.great around the circuit this year. The men's 400 is super hot.
:03:44. > :03:52.Colin, the 400 metres, that is where our strength has been? We have been
:03:53. > :04:07.waiting for certain events to wake up a class the globe. But the 400
:04:08. > :04:15.metres has been electric. Good battle with Kirani James, who we
:04:16. > :04:17.will be seeing on the track. Now he has arrived, he is the clear
:04:18. > :04:19.favourite for this title. Even though it is hot. Other people are
:04:20. > :04:22.running the 44 second mark. But I think Kirani James is running above
:04:23. > :04:29.everybody else. I am looking for him to do something special, and I mean
:04:30. > :04:34.something close to the world record. Possible world record? That is
:04:35. > :04:42.because you want to see Michael Johnson's face! Myself and Michael
:04:43. > :04:59.discussed his world record from the 200 up to the 400. We always said
:05:00. > :05:01.the 400 record was the softer of his two records and we are surprised it
:05:02. > :05:03.has lasted the longest. Kirani James has the ability to do that. I am
:05:04. > :05:05.hoping he will let himself go. If he does that, he could do something
:05:06. > :05:12.spectacular. We are looking forward to seeing Matthew Hudson-Smith, who
:05:13. > :05:19.made the breakthrough at the trials? It is refreshing to see him coming
:05:20. > :05:22.through and he is so young. I hope with the occasion, he does not get
:05:23. > :05:29.overwrought. He has to negotiate the rounds well, but what a prospect to
:05:30. > :05:36.see such a young, fresh talent who is still learning to run the 400,
:05:37. > :05:42.coming through. Libby Clegg? She has got a great chance. Her guide runner
:05:43. > :05:48.as well, they have been running really well all season. Time to say
:05:49. > :05:53.good morning to the commentary team, Steve Cram and Andrew Cotton. Good
:05:54. > :06:02.morning to you all. Good morning. Lovely weather today. Which was the
:06:03. > :06:05.forecast. Cloudy earlier on what the sunshine is breaking through. A few
:06:06. > :06:12.people have been struggling to get in, lots of queues and security, but
:06:13. > :06:19.it has been managed pretty well and the stadium is filling up. This is a
:06:20. > :06:26.very, very good crowd indeed for the morning session.
:06:27. > :06:41.This is the first line-up for the 100 metres decathlon. Look out for
:06:42. > :06:48.Martin Brockman for England. Stephen Cain of Australia and Jake Stein of
:06:49. > :06:55.Australia as well. These are not the quickest. The quickest sprinters in
:06:56. > :07:02.the decathlon. Martin Brockman has a very good high jump which later on
:07:03. > :07:07.today. Ron 's medallist in the last Commonwealth Games. All about trying
:07:08. > :07:14.to beat your personal best. -- bronze-medallist. That is not the
:07:15. > :07:22.way to beat your personal best. Jake Stein, out a little bit too sharply.
:07:23. > :07:30.The false start rule in decathlon on, well they don't get
:07:31. > :07:35.disqualified. Because it is the decathlon, one false start but the
:07:36. > :07:42.scenario now, it makes him nervous. You can understand it in the first
:07:43. > :07:50.morning. Decathlon, which I think is quite a few of these guys winking
:07:51. > :07:53.they have a chance of a medal. Even with the plenty of experience they
:07:54. > :07:59.all have. You really do want to get off to a good start. The 100 metres
:08:00. > :08:05.sets the stall for all of them, even if it is not your best event. It is
:08:06. > :08:09.a chance, if you get out of the blocks. We note this track is vast.
:08:10. > :08:18.It is a little warmer than yesterday, Andrew? Yes, Jake Stein
:08:19. > :08:23.is a big talent. Former world youth champion. A warning against him as
:08:24. > :08:51.he got out too early. Anguish! What has he done? No
:08:52. > :08:56.excuse. You have had one false starts, you get your chance in the
:08:57. > :09:03.decathlon. It is not even close. It is madness. Just walking straight
:09:04. > :09:08.off and not waiting for the official. You sit and take the
:09:09. > :09:15.punishment is of bit slower, but you make sure. He is angry, but it is
:09:16. > :09:25.his fault. You can understand his frustration. He is a big talent. Two
:09:26. > :09:28.very, very clear false starts. He does not know what to do with
:09:29. > :09:36.himself. He does not know where to go. 20 years of age. Steve Backley
:09:37. > :09:41.is looking at me. You have got to put it down to the immaturity of
:09:42. > :09:47.you. 20 years of age but world youth champion. It is a huge error. We had
:09:48. > :09:53.him down as somebody is a contender for the medals coming into The
:09:54. > :10:07.Games. First event is the end of his decathlon. What a shame. At least he
:10:08. > :10:11.took his false starts in the manner they supposed to be, he was furious.
:10:12. > :10:19.There were false start yesterday and people were happy to be out. He can
:10:20. > :10:21.compete in the other events, but it cannot get any points in the 100
:10:22. > :10:29.metres. It cannot get any points in the 100 metres. The rest tried to
:10:30. > :10:35.settle in. Stephen King, his Australian team-mate in lane number
:10:36. > :10:51.one. And tries to get his large flame going to stop -- frame going.
:10:52. > :10:57.Granada come through just outside 11 seconds but with a slight helping
:10:58. > :11:03.win. But will be a personal best. That is what you are looking for in
:11:04. > :11:07.the decathlon. You are not racing against the clock. Just see if you
:11:08. > :11:14.can beat your personal best in each event and see where it gets you.
:11:15. > :11:23.Felix, just outside 11 seconds in the 100 metres decathlon. It is a
:11:24. > :11:33.good indication of things to come. Two of them running personal bests.
:11:34. > :11:40.Felix is a good athlete. This is pretty good sprinting at, as you
:11:41. > :11:44.would expect from men from the Caribbean. The wind was perfect for
:11:45. > :11:51.them. Stephen Cain anti-eyrie behind them. Bit disappointing for Martin
:11:52. > :11:58.Brockman, he has ran quicker than that this season. Lyndon V and
:11:59. > :12:15.Felix, the brothers from grenade. Jake Stein from South Africa,
:12:16. > :12:21.Denise? Two false starts, nine events to go and you don't get the
:12:22. > :12:27.first one of the ground properly. It is very disappointing. I am sorry
:12:28. > :12:33.for him but you have to have a bit of discipline in this event. You are
:12:34. > :12:36.not in for the short haul, it is a very long two days. You can tell by
:12:37. > :12:42.his reaction, he is furious with himself. Rightly so. Steve Cram made
:12:43. > :12:45.the point is, a lot of these guys will have woken up this morning,
:12:46. > :12:50.given it is not the strongest decathlon, thinking they have a
:12:51. > :12:56.chance of a medal and he was probably one of them? He is
:12:57. > :13:01.developing, he has trained and worked hard and is a rare position
:13:02. > :13:05.where you can take a global title. The Commonwealth Games is something
:13:06. > :13:13.you need to add to your blog. For him, we are talking and we were
:13:14. > :13:19.frustrated with his reaction. But do we feel sympathy? Not really. You
:13:20. > :13:26.train so many days to get this right. You prepare well and to let
:13:27. > :13:40.yourself down. Effectively that is what he has done. And everybody else
:13:41. > :13:49.around you. Everybody who has put in the time and effort to get you on
:13:50. > :13:51.the start line. Was he over excited, if I started this well, I have a
:13:52. > :13:53.chance? You can understand that if you are competing in a different
:13:54. > :13:56.competition. He has enough experience not to do silly things. I
:13:57. > :14:00.don't think his behaviour was great, either. Ashley Bryant goes in
:14:01. > :14:13.the next race. We have David Guest going for Wales
:14:14. > :14:18.and Curtis Matthews, his team-mate. Peter Glass from Northern Ireland.
:14:19. > :14:24.Scott McLaren of New Zealand. Just to make a point again, they are
:14:25. > :14:24.seeded on their 100-metre ability, not their
:14:25. > :14:26.seeded on their 100-metre ability, ability
:14:27. > :14:31.seeded on their 100-metre ability, not their across the whole ten
:14:32. > :14:38.events. Curtis Matthews of Wales. One of the slower men in this field.
:14:39. > :14:50.We have not seen Ashley Bryant. Ashley Bryant is over on the far
:14:51. > :14:52.side later to Peter Glass. For Ashley Bryant, hugely important
:14:53. > :14:57.beginning required. We have just seen a couple of personal bests in
:14:58. > :15:17.the first heat. Would be great if he could follow suit. Real contender.
:15:18. > :15:26.Guest wins that from Matthews. Very good. Ashley Bryant did not get the
:15:27. > :15:33.best of starts. And proved as the race went on, performing well. What
:15:34. > :15:37.a good start from David Guest. Just outside his personal best. Curtis
:15:38. > :15:44.Matthews has run a personal best behind him. Both Welsh men. Really
:15:45. > :15:52.good. The start was not very good. It wasn't. It was a very quick gun
:15:53. > :16:01.and almost caught them unawares. Guest is the only man below 11
:16:02. > :16:06.seconds. Just outside his personal best. A good run from Curtis
:16:07. > :16:12.Matthews, you can see how pleased he was after that. David Guest is a
:16:13. > :16:18.decent sprinter indeed. Get close to your personal best, that is all you
:16:19. > :16:21.can ask for in the decathlon. A bit of a missed opportunity for
:16:22. > :16:29.Ashley Bryant. A solid start but given the other times, and the
:16:30. > :16:32.following wind. Not far out from his personal best. A solid start but not
:16:33. > :16:54.a brilliant start, literally. This is Dan Greaves. Four Times and
:16:55. > :16:59.Olympic medallist. This is his opening throw. He looked to maybe
:17:00. > :17:07.snatch at that. He looked very relaxed in warm up. Over 50m warming
:17:08. > :17:14.up. He knows. He knows that wasn't quite what he wanted to set the
:17:15. > :17:24.standard here. That looked as if it was below 50m. It will take the
:17:25. > :17:27.lead. But it possibly leads the way for this man, Aled Davies, Olympic
:17:28. > :17:34.champion, reigning Olympic champion in his class of above the knee. It
:17:35. > :17:37.is calculated through a formula. They are competing directly against
:17:38. > :17:47.each other. That was a cleaner throw. Around 45 metres as we can
:17:48. > :17:52.see. But that may well take the lead due to this calculation. A good
:17:53. > :18:03.opening throw, really committed. Clean flight as a result will stop
:18:04. > :18:13.five Metres Circle, he used it well. -- clean flight as a result.
:18:14. > :18:19.A nice start from Aled Davies. Not so much from Dan Greaves. Explain
:18:20. > :18:29.this factoring system? They have been using it for a number
:18:30. > :18:34.of years. Sorry to disrupt you, it was getting a bit dangerous in the
:18:35. > :18:39.studio! It combines classifications and to allow some classifications
:18:40. > :18:44.weather is not the depth of condition to compete against
:18:45. > :18:50.everyone else. 1000 points is the world record. It is not the distance
:18:51. > :18:58.but the points. Allied has had very consistent throws. Dan is just
:18:59. > :19:04.behind that with 823 points. There was talk they might do this for
:19:05. > :19:09.track racing. You could technically finished fourth in a race but still
:19:10. > :19:11.win a gold medal. It is a sensible thing they have only kept it to
:19:12. > :19:19.field events. Now, we go to the final race in this
:19:20. > :19:23.men's decathlon Cotter. COMMENTATOR: One of the favourites
:19:24. > :19:29.for the gold medal, Damian Warner from Canada. He took a bronze in the
:19:30. > :19:38.World Championships in Canada last year.
:19:39. > :19:47.John lane goes for England. These are the quick men in the
:19:48. > :20:14.decathlon. Damian Warner in particular. A good, clean start.
:20:15. > :20:22.Look at his sprinting style, Warner. He is a flyer. And in lane three...
:20:23. > :20:30.A personal best! What a run from Damian Warner. Huge points
:20:31. > :20:37.accumulated. A quick man, Damian Warner, a wonderful start to his
:20:38. > :20:41.decathlon challenge in the 100m. That is more like it, that has taken
:20:42. > :20:49.advantage of the conditions, the track, this first morning. He has
:20:50. > :20:52.stepped up, Damian Warner. And rubber-stamped his credentials if
:20:53. > :20:58.you like as a contender for the gold medal. A good start. John Lane got
:20:59. > :21:04.out really well in lane three. He has also equalled his personal best.
:21:05. > :21:13.Coertzen South Africa. Not quite what Ashley Bryant did. A good
:21:14. > :21:18.performance from John Lane from England. Worner, that would have
:21:19. > :21:27.qualified him through the first round. -- Warner. He looks like a
:21:28. > :21:46.sprinter. Here we go, discus Dan, second
:21:47. > :21:51.round. Looking nervous. He won't thank me for saying that. He did
:21:52. > :21:57.snatch at the first throw. Can he settle in and do what he's capable
:21:58. > :22:03.of? You can hear by the reaction from the crowd that is better. Yes,
:22:04. > :22:09.it is way over 50m, towards 55 metres. His best is over 60 metres.
:22:10. > :22:13.Possibly even more to come. Certainly an improvement on the
:22:14. > :22:20.first round. Settling into the competition while. A good bright
:22:21. > :22:24.side, he just save it. He cannot touch the rim. He came very close. A
:22:25. > :22:41.big improvement. Let us wrap up the men's decathlon
:22:42. > :22:45.and the third heat. Damian Warner. A Games best as well in this
:22:46. > :22:47.discipline. A good run from John Lane. And Coertzen, another medal
:22:48. > :23:04.contender. This is the leader. Aled Davies of
:23:05. > :23:12.Wales. His second attempt. His opening throw over 44 metres. With
:23:13. > :23:18.that calculation he is in the lead. A big shout from the big man. He
:23:19. > :23:31.loves it. Really enjoying the support here. And that looks like a
:23:32. > :23:41.long throw for big Al Ed -- Aled Davies. Can he add a Commonwealth
:23:42. > :23:51.medal? It is way beyond his first. That is the lead for now.
:23:52. > :24:06.The standings over 1000 points by Damian Warner. A good run from John
:24:07. > :24:15.Lane as well. Ashley Bryant is in eighth position. A little bit
:24:16. > :24:19.further down, Ben Gregory. Peter Glass from Northern Ireland. A
:24:20. > :24:37.stunning run from Damian Warner. That's equals Colin Jackson's
:24:38. > :24:41.personal best of 100m! We are wondering what these heats in
:24:42. > :24:47.the decathlon would produce today. We have seen sensational sprinting
:24:48. > :24:55.which is exciting for later on. We have the wounds and men's semifinals
:24:56. > :24:59.-- women's. It was super. When you think how
:25:00. > :25:08.quickly our guys did yesterday in the 100. Adam Gemili ran quicker.
:25:09. > :25:12.But 10.29 is one of the fastest decathlon 100m you will ever see.
:25:13. > :25:16.Sensational. You were saying he was over
:25:17. > :25:20.striding. He does run differently from a pure 100m Bunner.
:25:21. > :25:25.He does not have acne extension over the front and back. You would expect
:25:26. > :25:41.that. He had to specialise in what he is doing -- a need extension --
:25:42. > :25:53.knee. The athletics is warming up very
:25:54. > :25:57.nicely. Let us head to Kelvingrove. One of the medals could be won by
:25:58. > :26:01.Northern Ireland in the triples. Rishi Persad is there for us. When
:26:02. > :26:08.we left you, Northern Ireland were trailing, any sign of a comeback?
:26:09. > :26:12.They are hanging in there. Trailing 14-8. At this stage, they are
:26:13. > :26:21.relying on Neil Booth to drag them back into the match to win their
:26:22. > :26:25.first gold medal for decades. They are hoping to get back into the
:26:26. > :26:31.match. South Africa are the defending champion, they won in
:26:32. > :26:32.Delhi. This is a crucial stage, let us join Paul Mitchell and John
:26:33. > :26:54.Price. Northern Ireland led South Africa in
:26:55. > :26:58.the group game. 7-0. Couldn't close it out. This time, South Africa are
:26:59. > :27:06.in the lead and Northern Ireland on the comeback trail. Northern Ireland
:27:07. > :27:13.can take shorts here to work their way back into this final.
:27:14. > :27:30.Bobby Donnelly needs a much wider line. He has given himself a chance.
:27:31. > :27:31.In heat comes. -- he comes. Certainly a couple out. They might
:27:32. > :27:51.measure again. Umpire required. Just a difference an extra turn
:27:52. > :28:02.would have made. That is a tough one to call. I think the tape measure is
:28:03. > :28:03.certainly required on that. A good series of events for Northern
:28:04. > :28:41.Ireland. I am not quite sure why they
:28:42. > :28:52.measured the red ball. It is Northern Ireland's shot. Two
:28:53. > :29:19.shots to Northern Ireland. Game on. On the comeback trail. Four down,
:29:20. > :29:29.four to play. They were extant with eight to play, with four to play. As
:29:30. > :29:31.the sun bathes the greens here in Kelvingrove, it is a pretty good
:29:32. > :31:35.fight. Little doubt about it, he has had
:31:36. > :31:49.the better of his opponent, Paul Daly.
:31:50. > :31:56.Neluonde, trying to adjust. Change of the length and bringing the
:31:57. > :31:58.matter up has worked. It has had an effect and got Northern Ireland back
:31:59. > :32:16.in the game. Somebody just taking a photograph
:32:17. > :32:22.right in front of others. Just missed the opportunity to photo bomb
:32:23. > :32:41.them, John. It would be men so they would not want. Well played.
:32:42. > :33:04.He has been pretty steady. Another good try.
:33:05. > :33:30.Chased after it. Here he comes. Just a bit too heavy. This is the bowl
:33:31. > :33:53.that one it. That is the one that has got to be beaten.
:33:54. > :34:01.Nearly got the push on it. Not quite enough. Slightly harder to get that
:34:02. > :34:43.as well. Can Bobby push those bowls in? Solid
:34:44. > :34:49.onto the Northern Ireland all, which will then take away the red bowl.
:34:50. > :35:07.Certainly one of the options. Yes, I agree. If he gets the jack, it is a
:35:08. > :35:18.good position at the back. Bringing all his experience to play here.
:35:19. > :35:31.Just inside. Splits off his own front. If South Africa can just take
:35:32. > :35:40.a little breath, barring disaster they are on the scorecard here.
:35:41. > :35:57.Big effort. Brilliant. It is a heartbreaker for Northern Ireland.
:35:58. > :36:01.Bobby Donnelly has had the opportunity to add the second shot.
:36:02. > :36:10.He has taken it every time and there it is again. He lives his hat this
:36:11. > :36:15.time, a real sign of excitement! We are going to lead this gold medal
:36:16. > :36:20.match ban now on BBC One, but we will be back in about 15 minutes. It
:36:21. > :36:24.you want to see every moment, you can watch it on the red button now.
:36:25. > :36:28.Now we will be heading back to Hampden Park and the athletics.
:36:29. > :36:34.Jonathan, some interest for the home nation?
:36:35. > :36:38.Certainly is. Libby Clegg will go in the 100 metres. Now we go straight
:36:39. > :37:08.to Steve Cram. This is the line-up of the first
:37:09. > :37:20.heat. Each of them running with a guide. That is Selina Litt. Her
:37:21. > :37:32.guide is Ryan Henry-Asquith. He used to run with Libby Clegg, who you
:37:33. > :37:39.will be seeing in the second heat. Mitch Chabot from Mozambique you
:37:40. > :37:53.would expect to win this. Only the winner will go through. There is the
:37:54. > :38:05.possibility of the fastest loser going through. She will have to
:38:06. > :38:09.cross fingers and seek, Selina Litt. It is a very good for months from
:38:10. > :38:13.the athlete from Mozambique. Outside her personal best. Her site has
:38:14. > :38:23.deteriorated and she has had to learn to run with a guide. Selina
:38:24. > :38:30.Litt with Henry Asquith, trying to get the best performance they can.
:38:31. > :38:47.She is very close to her personal best. So, Muchavo is expected.
:38:48. > :38:59.Daniel Greaves of England. Currently in second place. He relaxed in his
:39:00. > :39:05.second round, can he relax further and improve on his marks so far,
:39:06. > :39:12.just under 55 metres? Great support from the crowd. The answer to that
:39:13. > :39:21.question is yes. Emphatically. Closer to 60 metres. He likes that
:39:22. > :39:30.one. All about points in this event. 1000 points is the world record.
:39:31. > :39:36.Points are awarded, so Anne Davis of Wales is in the lead. 59 metres
:39:37. > :39:51..21. That is the lead for Daniel Greaves.
:39:52. > :40:01.What an opportunity for Libby Clegg. Lives in Loughborough these days.
:40:02. > :40:09.Hoping to win a gold medal for Scotland enter night's vinyl. She
:40:10. > :40:19.needs to qualify here. She saw Muchavo qualifying in the last heat.
:40:20. > :40:22.Used to run with Lincoln Asquith and now her stepson is her partner for
:40:23. > :40:56.guiding her through. Over on the far side Hannah more
:40:57. > :41:06.whiny of Kenya. The Paralympic silver-medallist, Libby Clegg has
:41:07. > :41:15.been preparing for this Commonwealth Games opportunity all year long. Big
:41:16. > :41:29.crowd in here. Sun is shining in Hampden Park. Second heat, only the
:41:30. > :41:35.winner to go through by rights. Very good start by Libby Clegg. Gets out
:41:36. > :41:44.of the blocks. No doubt about who will win this. Let's watch how
:41:45. > :41:47.quickly she runs. Not bad at all. Just a 10th outside her personal
:41:48. > :41:53.best and I am sure there is a little bit more in the tank for Libby
:41:54. > :41:59.Clegg. Very well done. Well executed. The Kenyan coming over to
:42:00. > :42:01.congratulate her. Libby Clegg is becoming a big star of the
:42:02. > :42:07.Paralympic team, what support she is getting as well? It is a fantastic
:42:08. > :42:11.performance from Libby Clegg. She comes in is such a strong
:42:12. > :42:17.favourite, it would be easy for her and her guide to make mistakes. She
:42:18. > :42:25.has been disqualified previously because the guide ran in front of
:42:26. > :42:29.her. Great out of the blocks. The partnership they have is so good. It
:42:30. > :42:36.is difficult for some of these girls to get guide runners who can run
:42:37. > :42:43.just as fast as the girls. Libby Clarke started -- Libby Clegg
:42:44. > :42:46.started using a guide until she technically had to because she knew
:42:47. > :42:53.she had to step up onto the world stage. It is interesting how you
:42:54. > :42:55.develop that relationship. She used to run with Lincoln, but she said he
:42:56. > :43:03.was getting a little old! Libby was still running a little fast. It is
:43:04. > :43:08.so important this relationship works well and you are in perfect tandem.
:43:09. > :43:13.These two have been working together for a couple of years. I think she
:43:14. > :43:21.can get a little bit faster than that. As Tanni Grey-Thompson said,
:43:22. > :43:28.she can do better than that. Congratulations, to do it in front
:43:29. > :43:35.of the crowd, described that? Heat of the moment, but the atmosphere is
:43:36. > :43:41.fantastic. We are looking ahead tonight for the final. For the two
:43:42. > :43:48.of others, we spoke about the puzzle. It is nearly complete for
:43:49. > :43:53.Hampden Park, for The Games, obviously in front of a Scottish
:43:54. > :43:58.crowd. We have the final and we are grateful to get through. We will go
:43:59. > :44:03.back, recuperate and get ready for the final. This crowd will inspire
:44:04. > :44:10.you again? Definitely. So many people have come out for the morning
:44:11. > :44:15.session. It gives you a confidence boost, people coming to watch.
:44:16. > :44:33.Tremendous performance, good luck for the final. Very well done. Let's
:44:34. > :44:42.confirm the results. Ishitile in second place. One more heat to come.
:44:43. > :44:46.Great competition unfolding in the discus between the Welshman, Aled
:44:47. > :44:53.Davies and the man who has just taken the lead, Daniel Greaves. Can
:44:54. > :45:01.the Paralympic champion respond? This is his third attempt. Way out
:45:02. > :45:04.to the right hand side. Uncharacteristically for Aled
:45:05. > :45:08.Davies. Possibly isn't an improvement. He held the lead in the
:45:09. > :45:17.early rounds and this does not look as though he is going to take it
:45:18. > :45:20.back. He will have a further three throws to challenge back to Daniel
:45:21. > :45:38.Greaves, who is just 11 points ahead in the calculation.
:45:39. > :45:45.voices that come down from on high. Steve, looking down on the crowd, a
:45:46. > :45:49.morning session, you don't get this around the world at World
:45:50. > :45:53.Championships. This has put so much pressure. Everyone talked about
:45:54. > :45:59.London. There is so much pressure on other World Championships now. All
:46:00. > :46:03.of these big events, and we are going to the European Championships
:46:04. > :46:16.in Z?rich in a couple of weeks, they feel under pressure to have big
:46:17. > :46:24.morning crowds. It is fabulous. Sensible use of headphones there.
:46:25. > :46:34.We are just about ready for the third heat in the first round of the
:46:35. > :46:38.women's 100m T12. A wonderful platform for para-sport to be in
:46:39. > :46:44.this environment, on this stage, enjoy this crowd. Tracey Hinton is
:46:45. > :46:57.from Cardiff. A veteran now, 44, she wouldn't mind me saying. Six medals.
:46:58. > :47:09.She has her work cut out. Munialo has a quicker time.
:47:10. > :47:13.There is Tracey Hinton. This T11 class is total blindness, T12 is
:47:14. > :47:23.running here as well. She gets high welcome from the Hampden crowd. Zero
:47:24. > :47:33.-5% of normal vision. With her guide, long-time guide.
:47:34. > :47:39.Joyleen Jeffrey. 13.41 this season. The quickest in the field. A
:47:40. > :47:49.reminder it is just the winner who goes through automatically. Plus one
:47:50. > :48:53.of the fastest looters! -- the one fastest loser.
:48:54. > :48:55.hugely experienced Tracey Hinton. The Welsh flag flies in the Hampden
:48:56. > :49:00.Sunshine, a comfortable qualification.
:49:01. > :49:05.A very comfortable win for Tracey Hinton and her guide. On paper,
:49:06. > :49:09.people were expecting it to be a struggle for her to get through to
:49:10. > :49:18.the final. She has been competing for a long time. The vagaries of
:49:19. > :49:27.sprinting, sprinting was of, then the 400 and 800 were on. She has had
:49:28. > :49:34.to drop back to sprinting. They are running very evenly, slightly in
:49:35. > :49:40.front of her as they come to the line. If that happens, they are
:49:41. > :49:46.disqualified but he stepped back just in time.
:49:47. > :49:53.Well practised. They are allowed to lead, but the bona fides athlete has
:49:54. > :49:59.two crossed the line first of all. Easing back at the correct moment.
:50:00. > :50:03.Tracey Hinton is safely through. A far more comfortable victory than we
:50:04. > :50:12.expected based on season's best times. Running in tandem. Steffan
:50:13. > :50:24.Hughes let's Tracey Hinton go through. A decent time. Safely
:50:25. > :50:32.through to the final tonight. That final will be at 8pm.
:50:33. > :50:41.Watching the discus, Aled Davies and Daniel Greaves, a factoring system
:50:42. > :50:46.because they are different classifications. Mixed
:50:47. > :50:51.classification. Here, no quarter given to Tracey Hinton, why is that?
:50:52. > :50:57.It has been like that for a number of years where someone who is T11
:50:58. > :51:09.like Tracey Hinton is allowed to compete. She cannot see.
:51:10. > :51:13.A lot of guys on the track are happy with that.
:51:14. > :51:17.Looking those -- looking at those three sheets, you have enough in
:51:18. > :51:25.each classification to run a final separately.
:51:26. > :51:28.What they like is having the opportunity for a semifinal. It is
:51:29. > :51:35.harsh when you only have the winner going through and a fastest loser.
:51:36. > :51:41.It is quite challenging. They are trying to develop this event and use
:51:42. > :51:47.the Commonwealth Games as a platform to attract people. They have to
:51:48. > :51:50.stick at this event now. They have dropped back to the sprinting.
:51:51. > :51:55.Things have been on and off the programme which is not particularly
:51:56. > :52:10.fair on the athletes. You mentioned the 100m PB. Libby ran
:52:11. > :52:17.brilliantly. Let us focus on Libby, she was fantastic. We have come to
:52:18. > :52:23.expect her dominance. Technically, her ability is so amazing.
:52:24. > :52:30.She is solid, straight, she keeps her form so well. You see the
:52:31. > :52:37.relationship between the runner and the guide, it is imperative. Stride
:52:38. > :52:41.for stride. Supporting, encouraging. Helping that
:52:42. > :52:44.acceleration you need. A great athlete.
:52:45. > :52:48.One of the things mentioned is finding those guide runners who have
:52:49. > :52:53.the speed and ability of running alongside these top women. The
:52:54. > :53:02.important thing is to have a guide who can build with them. It is a
:53:03. > :53:08.trade you have to learn. Tracking the stride pattern and
:53:09. > :53:23.length. You have two moderate your pattern all the time.
:53:24. > :53:28.This is what it -- this is about. It is a really big deal for Libby. She
:53:29. > :53:34.has been on the scene for a long time. Beijing was a development
:53:35. > :53:37.Games. She has the potential, the ability, it is getting that pairing
:53:38. > :53:56.right on the day. Plenty more athletics to look
:53:57. > :54:07.forward today. The home nations are still to win a medal in the lawn
:54:08. > :54:12.bowls, at the men's triples, at Kelvingrove.
:54:13. > :54:17.A tense morning at the lawn bowls centre. Northern Ireland against
:54:18. > :54:26.South Africa. South Africa have dominated, they lead 17-10. Northern
:54:27. > :54:33.Ireland need a minor miracle. Let us pick up the action now.
:54:34. > :54:36.Northern Ireland are looking for least a three to give themselves a
:54:37. > :54:46.chance. South Africa have been better at
:54:47. > :55:12.this particular length. The sunshine certainly helps put the
:55:13. > :55:33.venue into perspective. A close ball, and on the high side.
:55:34. > :57:55.He just overcooked it on the line. If you are Bobby Donnelly, you will
:57:56. > :58:10.be delighted with that. A good situation to be in.
:58:11. > :58:19.They can't afford to drop one, it will be game over. They had to find
:58:20. > :58:26.something. They can't afford the first three or four bowls to be
:58:27. > :58:40.short. They had to try to regroup somehow. They need the four Bow
:58:41. > :59:09.Bloor at least up to the jack. -- bowls.
:59:10. > :59:23.Almost everywhere you look, you think that is one further, but next
:59:24. > :59:28.door, the neighbour belongs to South Africa. You can't really see. They
:59:29. > :59:37.are really looking for more than one. He needs more than one to give
:59:38. > :59:39.himself a chance in the last end. It is difficult to see how he is going
:59:40. > :59:49.to get anything. Finding it a little more difficult
:59:50. > :59:57.at this length, Northern Ireland. It has been a medal performance for
:59:58. > :00:17.them, in Glasgow. He needs a connection on that, a
:00:18. > :00:51.half Oldham. He may have to settle -- half-bowl.
:00:52. > :00:57.another gold-medal. Just made sure. This could be the last bowl. He has
:00:58. > :01:04.got to get something like this. Jack in the ditch and Northern Ireland
:01:05. > :01:11.could get three. Go sailing wide. Time for the handshakes. Gold for
:01:12. > :01:18.South Africa. Tip of the. It has been that kind of day or Bobby
:01:19. > :01:29.Donnelly. Pretty much in control of the match from the sixth end. South
:01:30. > :01:36.Africa finish it off with a two. Northern Ireland pick up their first
:01:37. > :01:41.silver medal in these Commonwealth Games. Again, it is the colours of
:01:42. > :01:55.South Africa that dominate Kelvingrove.
:01:56. > :02:10.In the gold-medal match, the gold medal goes to South Africa.
:02:11. > :02:25.That was a few moments ago, South Africa winning the gold medal. A
:02:26. > :02:32.gallant silver medal for Northern Ireland. Neil, South Africa got an
:02:33. > :02:35.early advantage and they did not relinquish it. They did. We got too
:02:36. > :02:37.far behind. It was too much to come back. Paul, the manner of your
:02:38. > :02:40.progress in the tournament, having a deficit did not seem too much of a
:02:41. > :02:46.problem and commentators were saying, you had been behind before
:02:47. > :02:51.and could make it up? Last few games we have come back, but unfortunately
:02:52. > :02:55.we did not get over the line. The South Africans played well and
:02:56. > :03:02.deserved the gold medal. Lessons learned? Yes, get out of the traps
:03:03. > :03:09.when it matters. Neil, focus has been on you because it has been
:03:10. > :03:12.pointed out these are your last international games. How are your
:03:13. > :03:22.emotions after that match this morning? I have ever every colour of
:03:23. > :03:31.medal, gold, silver and bronze. We should be proud of ourselves. We can
:03:32. > :03:35.hold our heads up high and still the forced to go. We talked about the
:03:36. > :03:39.fact you have won the gold medal in 1998 in Kuala Lumpur. Even though
:03:40. > :03:43.you have not won the number one medal, it is the type of effort you
:03:44. > :03:51.look back on when you eventually retire and say what a great effort
:03:52. > :03:55.and excitement for the future? Irish bowls are in safe hands and these
:03:56. > :04:01.two guys are superb players and will go on to win many more medals. It
:04:02. > :04:05.has been very satisfying coming back from the slow start we have had
:04:06. > :04:11.because it could have been easy to fall back. It is a silver medal. The
:04:12. > :04:13.South Africans played very well and deserved it. What are your
:04:14. > :04:17.South Africans played very well and deserved it. prospects for the
:04:18. > :04:23.fours? We know very tales can happen, what are the chances of a
:04:24. > :04:31.fairy tale for you? I have not got a clue. We managed to sneak home by
:04:32. > :04:39.one shot yesterday. We managed to get up on the last bowl. We will
:04:40. > :04:43.have a couple of beers tonight and get our heads back in the right mode
:04:44. > :04:46.and give it a really good go. Commiserations, but proud of the
:04:47. > :04:52.silver medal. We have a potential gold medal for Scotland in the
:04:53. > :04:56.men's pairs. Paul Foster and Alex Marshall take on Malaysia at 12:45pm
:04:57. > :05:03.here at the Kelvingrove lawn bowls centre.
:05:04. > :05:06.I am sure the Scottish pair will be on a high after beating England in
:05:07. > :05:11.the semifinals yesterday. I said Northern Ireland had not want a gold
:05:12. > :05:16.medal yet in the competition, they haven't, but they also have not won
:05:17. > :05:21.a silver. So they have added to their medal tally. Congratulations
:05:22. > :05:28.to Wales who have taken a bronze medal in the men's triples having
:05:29. > :05:35.beaten Australia. It is athletics and we will head back to Hampden
:05:36. > :05:41.Park and see some more heat and also see how the Welsh head against
:05:42. > :05:49.England, Daniel Greaves against Alan Davies discus is going. Jonathan, it
:05:50. > :05:57.is all yours. We have seen Libby Clegg going in the heats. We have
:05:58. > :06:02.the T 37, athletes with 30 -- cerebral palsy. We have Rhys Jones
:06:03. > :06:09.in the second heat? I am also interested to see how the Welsh
:06:10. > :06:14.athletes get on. We have had a traumatic beginning to these
:06:15. > :06:18.championships. It affects the whole team dynamics. We saw the decathlon
:06:19. > :06:26.boys do well. Discus is doing well, of course. With that, it is lifting
:06:27. > :06:33.team spirits again. In terms of this classification, this is athletes
:06:34. > :06:38.with cerebral palsy? Yes, athletes are paralysed down one side will
:06:39. > :06:42.stop you will see some athletes who will have normal or accepted running
:06:43. > :06:47.pattern and you will see athletes who are more impaired on one side.
:06:48. > :06:52.Out of the blocks in the first 20, 30 metres, makes a big difference.
:06:53. > :07:01.The first heater now with Steve Cram.
:07:02. > :07:15.Starting list for the first heat. Jason MacLean going to Scotland. The
:07:16. > :07:19.other athletes in here will give him a test. , but all are, only been
:07:20. > :07:55.running for 18 months. Du Toit is the fastest in the field.
:07:56. > :08:08.Not necessarily a 100-metre specialist. Jason MacLean... He gets
:08:09. > :08:18.a pretty good start. Du Toit, is expected going well will stop Jason
:08:19. > :08:29.MacLean has a chance. He gets second place. Du Toit WinZip. The important
:08:30. > :08:33.thing is, James McClean has beaten a couple of athletes who have run
:08:34. > :08:40.quicker than him, to get in the final. Considering the fact he has
:08:41. > :08:44.only been taking part in athletics for 18 months, it is a great
:08:45. > :08:52.performance from the Inverness harrier. Du Toit wins it but Jason
:08:53. > :09:05.MacLean safely through. Confirmation of the results. Just outside his
:09:06. > :09:16.personal best, Jason MacLean. Sean Roberts from Australia, the other
:09:17. > :09:20.qualifier for the final tonight. This is just to wrap up the
:09:21. > :09:21.qualification for tonight. We saw Libby Clegg winning in fine style,
:09:22. > :09:37.not far outside have us know best. -- just outside her personal best.
:09:38. > :10:04.Wonderful noise inside Hampden Park. We have just heard a big role in the
:10:05. > :10:23.Lewis Clow of Aberdeen. Daniel Hooker, but the man outside him in
:10:24. > :10:31.lane six is the man to beat. You will see van der Merwe has good
:10:32. > :10:37.movement in his arms on both sides. T 37 is the moderate to minimal
:10:38. > :10:45.dysfunction on one side or the other. Lewis Clow enjoying this
:10:46. > :10:55.experience. 18 years old. It is the first three go through automatically
:10:56. > :11:01.plus the two fastest losers. Jason MacLean already through for
:11:02. > :11:13.Scotland. Can Lewis Clow join him? Rhys Jones is in lane number two.
:11:14. > :11:22.Rhys Jones after very quickly. Here comes van der Merwe. Rhys Jones
:11:23. > :11:40.holding on well. Van der Merwe coming through. Pretty quick. Also
:11:41. > :11:43.the South African. The athlete from the Seychelles comes through.
:11:44. > :11:48.Looking at my watch, I think he will have beaten his own personal best.
:11:49. > :11:54.The race itself won by van der Merwe from South Africa, the favourite for
:11:55. > :11:56.the title. He will be joined by Rhys Jones, who ran very well Tanni
:11:57. > :12:05.Grey-Thompson question? Jones, who ran very well Tanni
:12:06. > :12:13.Grey-Thompson question Rhys Jones, it is a big step up for him. He
:12:14. > :12:20.should be very pleased with that time? It shows where this event is
:12:21. > :12:27.coming from. Jean Paul Juliet from the Seychelles. They have gone out
:12:28. > :12:33.and done a huge amount of work to make this happen. But great
:12:34. > :12:37.sprinting from van der Merwe. A great race from him. It is a broad
:12:38. > :12:43.category. The movements of van der Merwe, having his arms pumping helps
:12:44. > :12:48.a great deal. He does have some impairment in his right arm below
:12:49. > :12:52.the elbow, but he is very evenly shaped and his impairment would not
:12:53. > :12:57.affect his training as much as it would Lewis Clow or some of the
:12:58. > :13:02.other athletes. It is very traditional sprinting you see from
:13:03. > :13:08.him. Impressive run, as we expected from van der Merwe. He looks good
:13:09. > :13:27.going through to the final. Just confirmation of that.
:13:28. > :13:32.That final is at 8:40pm this evening. Solid
:13:33. > :13:40.That final is at 8:40pm this evening. Solid performance from Rhys
:13:41. > :13:51.Jones, he did well? He really did well. The whole sport is developing
:13:52. > :13:59.well. In Wales, when you have somebody like Danny Graham Thomson
:14:00. > :14:06.who was a trail blazer in Paralympic athletes, it inspired people to come
:14:07. > :14:13.through and believe in themselves. -- Tanni Grey-Thompson. We're lucky
:14:14. > :14:19.indeed. I remember winning my first trophies and member thinking she is
:14:20. > :14:23.amazing. In Wales, we have a decent programme of people who have been
:14:24. > :14:23.inspired by you. What Rhys Jones is doing, is
:14:24. > :14:33.inspired by you. What Rhys Jones spec Dracula. He will still be
:14:34. > :14:38.looking up to somebody like you. Wales have put a lot of investment
:14:39. > :14:43.into the grass roots. They have invested in school sports. Home
:14:44. > :14:49.countries are playing catch up on that. Scottish athletics having two
:14:50. > :14:53.athletes in the semifinals. What we are hoping is it will filter to
:14:54. > :15:00.other Commonwealth countries as well. Because we had you, it makes a
:15:01. > :15:02.huge difference. You are touching on school sports and
:15:03. > :15:06.huge difference. You are touching on school how we need to develop not
:15:07. > :15:07.only domestically, but around the world. How is the
:15:08. > :15:13.only domestically, but around the world. How is recruitment generally,
:15:14. > :15:20.globally? The reality is, in the UK and lots of disabled children are
:15:21. > :15:38.excluded from school sports. But we are a lot better than most countries
:15:39. > :15:42.around the world. It is much is about education as the sport that
:15:43. > :15:44.takes place here. Some of the smaller countries could run
:15:45. > :15:46.integrated programmes. You could find disabled people relatively
:15:47. > :15:48.easy. It is about changing attitudes. Early in my career, I was
:15:49. > :16:05.asked if disabled kids in sport does require
:16:06. > :16:09.resources. It requires imagination. I have been to countries around the
:16:10. > :16:15.world where they might not have a lot of money, but they look beyond
:16:16. > :16:19.that. Actually, there are very few adjustments you need to make in some
:16:20. > :16:23.of this printing techniques and some of the training. In the 37 class,
:16:24. > :16:26.there is no equipment. It is slightly different when you look at
:16:27. > :16:32.the wheelchair equipment that can cost ?5,000. But that is why a lot
:16:33. > :16:36.of these events are here, because there are things that can be done
:16:37. > :16:40.easily. In terms of having Para-sport events in the
:16:41. > :16:43.Commonwealth Games, it is a wonderful platform. If we look at
:16:44. > :16:51.the crowd here in Hampden Park, for a morning qualification session, and
:16:52. > :16:56.we also have the discus, this helps to change perceptions. It does,
:16:57. > :17:00.because people just see it as sport. They see one person winning and
:17:01. > :17:05.everyone else not winning. We should be proud with what was achieved in
:17:06. > :17:09.London. There has never been a Paralympics that has been a sell-out
:17:10. > :17:14.the way it was. People came for also is of reasons, but they left, having
:17:15. > :17:20.seen some amazing sport. It is an opportunity to move away from
:17:21. > :17:24.thinking about being disabled being what you cannot do, but what you can
:17:25. > :17:33.do. That discus is England versus Wales.
:17:34. > :17:41.Yes, England versus Wales here in Scotland. This was the man who led
:17:42. > :17:46.in the early stages, Aled Davies, now in the fifth round. Just two
:17:47. > :18:00.more attempts to try and regain the lead from Daniel Greaves. A very
:18:01. > :18:06.controlled attempt. Very consistent from Aled Davies, 23 years old.
:18:07. > :18:13.Stable technique. All throws so far have been around that 45 metre mark.
:18:14. > :18:29.He will need around 47 metres to go beyond Daniel Greaves. This is the
:18:30. > :18:33.event leader. Had a great throw in the third round of 39 metres. He is
:18:34. > :18:39.looking to extend that lead. He knows Aled Davies is reading down
:18:40. > :18:48.his neck. Did not quite come clean out of his hand. It is still long,
:18:49. > :19:00.but his best throws come out clean. There was a tiny wobble there. Just
:19:01. > :19:13.taking centimetres off his best. Just 11 points ahead of Aled Davies,
:19:14. > :19:18.a great competition. So, second event of the decathlon.
:19:19. > :19:29.This is the favourite for gold medal, Damian Warner. First attempt
:19:30. > :19:35.at the long jump. That was solid. He has a lifetime best from this year
:19:36. > :19:48.of 7.62m. We saw the white flag there. That was what he was looking
:19:49. > :19:52.back anxiously for. He was very quick in the 100m. He is looking to
:19:53. > :20:00.transfer that speed into distance in the long jump. Good first attempt.
:20:01. > :20:04.It is all about points in the decathlon, and he will have to --
:20:05. > :20:24.two more attempts. Now, John Lehman is very good in the
:20:25. > :20:32.100m as well -- tempt two. -- John Lane.
:20:33. > :20:45.That looks as though he may be out towards his lifetime best. 7.34 is
:20:46. > :20:50.his personal best. He has not been competing for many years. What a
:20:51. > :21:10.stage this would be to see someone come of age. And a lifetime best to
:21:11. > :21:23.boot. We will keep across that cattle on
:21:24. > :21:26.as it progresses. -- the decathlon. There has been a lot of talk at the
:21:27. > :21:31.Commonwealth Games about who would and would not be here. But one
:21:32. > :21:39.person is the Olympic champion, Kirani James. I am excited about
:21:40. > :21:43.him. He is only 21. He is the Olympic champion and has been a
:21:44. > :21:48.world champion and has gone under 44 seconds this year on quite a few
:21:49. > :21:56.occasions. He is a rangy runner, but he is so youthful in his approach.
:21:57. > :22:05.That is what makes him magical. His coach is also a former champion. He
:22:06. > :22:11.has vast experience in development and seeing how young people can come
:22:12. > :22:15.through. He is so celebrated at home that he has a huge sense of
:22:16. > :22:21.responsibility to put his island on the map. What he did at the Olympic
:22:22. > :22:30.Games was something else. He was only 19. Full of talent. Going into
:22:31. > :22:34.that Championships, there were such high expectations based on that
:22:35. > :22:41.performance from the Olympics. And it's just fell apart. He did not
:22:42. > :22:46.look like the same guy. He got 300 metres in Moscow and just didn't
:22:47. > :22:52.have the legs. So it was always interesting, how he was going to
:22:53. > :22:56.bounce back this year. LaShawn Merritt, the American, getting his
:22:57. > :23:06.head a bit. As you say, he's still young. Still young, and he has the
:23:07. > :23:11.capability of running as fast as his opponent, Soyuz idem watching each
:23:12. > :23:17.other -- you see them watching each other. But I am hoping Kirani James
:23:18. > :23:25.can go out there and relax and enjoy a Championships where he can win.
:23:26. > :23:30.Earlier, Colin said he might wreck the world record. We will see. That
:23:31. > :23:38.will be heat three. Heat one features an English athlete, Nigel
:23:39. > :23:44.Levine. Of all the English guys, they have to be at their best. The
:23:45. > :23:48.first three get through, depending on your heats. You have to
:23:49. > :23:55.concentrate. You can't afford to take it too easy. I look forward to
:23:56. > :24:12.seeing the young English athlete who did some 45, Hudson Smith. Let's
:24:13. > :24:16.head now to our commentary team. Yes, it is the midpoint. You could
:24:17. > :24:21.argue that Nigel Levine has been fortunate with the selection process
:24:22. > :24:25.being so early in the year, when he got selected for the England team.
:24:26. > :24:29.There were no trials. He has not been running that well. By his own
:24:30. > :24:35.at mission, he has been struggling in the lead up to these games. With
:24:36. > :25:13.Hudson doing so well, he will be in the relay. Seven heats in total.
:25:14. > :25:20.Solomon recently ran under 45 seconds. He will be a big threat in
:25:21. > :25:24.four. Levine in lane eight. A difficult draw, because with the
:25:25. > :25:33.form he is in, he can't guarantee coming in the top three. Levine has
:25:34. > :25:38.got to attack this in lane eight. He can't worry about what is going on
:25:39. > :25:43.inside. The athlete from Diana will also be a threat, that make -- from
:25:44. > :25:52.Guyana. It is Solomon, in the red of
:25:53. > :25:58.Trinidad and Tobago, with gauntlets, George and Levine. They are in
:25:59. > :26:02.contention for the top three places. Levine has got a real scrap
:26:03. > :26:12.on. Solomon comes into the lead. Gauntlett going well. Nigel Levine
:26:13. > :26:16.has got to really work it. Solomon is the easy winner. It is going to
:26:17. > :26:22.be very tight on the line. George gets it from Gauntlett. There are
:26:23. > :26:30.only three fastest loser spots from seven heats. The time will be
:26:31. > :26:36.all-important. No problems for the winner, Solomon. He was in Houston
:26:37. > :26:48.against a good field recently, going under 45 seconds for the first time.
:26:49. > :26:57.The time for Nigel Levine was 46 point 35. Not sure about that. We
:26:58. > :27:02.highlighted the ability of Solomon, the son of Mike Solomon, who ran in
:27:03. > :27:10.a couple of Olympics. He came sixth in the marathon in 1980. At this
:27:11. > :27:22.point, Solomon was looking so strong. He has gone below 45
:27:23. > :27:33.seconds. You did start to fear for Nigel Levine. He has a couple of
:27:34. > :27:39.Jamaicans inside. Very strong run from Solomon. Nigel Levine just did
:27:40. > :27:53.not have anything to come back in the home straight. It will be a
:27:54. > :28:01.nervous wait. It is difficult when you know you are not bringing good
:28:02. > :28:09.form into the championships. He has been lacking speed. He is moving
:28:10. > :28:21.comfortably down the back straight, but once George comes alongside
:28:22. > :28:24.him, he has to work the last 150. He is working twice as hard as those
:28:25. > :28:33.guys just stay with them. By the home straight, he is tired. He would
:28:34. > :28:39.have loved to have been in better form coming into these games. 46.35
:28:40. > :28:45.is indicative of where he has been recently. He has an anxious wait
:28:46. > :28:50.now. Nigel, by your own admission, it has
:28:51. > :28:54.not been the greatest build-up to these championships. Assess that
:28:55. > :28:59.performance and what you were thinking as you went down the home
:29:00. > :29:05.straight? I was like, wow, I need to come in the top three. I just kept
:29:06. > :29:11.pressing down the home straight. Unfortunately, I did not catch the
:29:12. > :29:15.guy. Finishing fourth, hopefully I will be one of the fastest losers to
:29:16. > :29:23.go through to the next round. It was a difficult race. You cannot chase
:29:24. > :29:24.anybody from lane eight. Hopefully, I will make it through to the next
:29:25. > :30:04.round. So, what has been a great
:30:05. > :30:14.competition comes to its climax. This is the final round of the
:30:15. > :30:17.Para-sport. Aled Davies led for the first half of the competition, only
:30:18. > :30:32.to see Daniel Greaves take the lead . Last attempt. It is not far off.
:30:33. > :30:33.He thinks it is not enough. I think I agree with him, but what a great
:30:34. > :30:42.series from big Aled Davies. I agree with him, but what a great
:30:43. > :30:48.series from 130 kilos. All of his weight behind that one. Not enough,
:30:49. > :30:57.silver medal. Daniel Greaves takes the gold medal. That is the
:30:58. > :31:13.confirmation. You can see the points on the right. Just 11 points. The
:31:14. > :31:21.equivalence of a few centimetres. Daniel Greaves of England takes the
:31:22. > :31:27.gold medal. He looks in shock. It is a big upset. Aled Davies was the
:31:28. > :31:37.favourite. It took everything from Daniel Greaves. Third round, his
:31:38. > :31:41.best attempt. Great stuff will stop second heat of the men's 400 metres.
:31:42. > :31:51.No home country involvement in this one. The South African is in lane
:31:52. > :32:17.two. Appeal of the athletes thought about
:32:18. > :32:21.the Commonwealth Games is a target, but then they came here and decided
:32:22. > :32:28.this is one of the biggest stages in front of one of the biggest
:32:29. > :32:36.audiences. The Nigerian has a season 's best. Three go through
:32:37. > :32:53.automatically plus the three fastest losers.
:32:54. > :33:15.Away they go. The noise will grow from the crowd as well. The South
:33:16. > :33:20.African is working himself up alongside the runner from Trinidad
:33:21. > :33:26.and Tobago. Steven Solomon in lane number six. These three, who we
:33:27. > :33:37.expected to go through automatically are almost in line. The victory will
:33:38. > :33:55.go to Quow. Good to see him back. What a
:33:56. > :34:07.brilliant couple of years he had when he was a youngster. I was
:34:08. > :34:14.impressed by this young man, Steven Solomon. He is based in the USA, at
:34:15. > :34:21.Stamford University. He has not raced since May. I would love to see
:34:22. > :34:32.him running 800 metres. Look at the action with him. Solomon qualifies
:34:33. > :34:44.easily. The South African is a big danger, he was just jogging through.
:34:45. > :35:02.Steve Cram has said Rooney should do the 800 metres as well. Aled Davies
:35:03. > :35:04.of Wales in the disc is losing out to Daniel Greaves of England and the
:35:05. > :35:05.champion is with Philip. Congratulations, fantastic
:35:06. > :35:10.performance. The atmosphere has inspired you to greater heights? It
:35:11. > :35:18.is on par with London. Starting early, said they had some good to
:35:19. > :35:21.watch and I wanted to put on a good performance. They pushed me all the
:35:22. > :35:28.way. This crowd has been phenomenal. I am thankful for them for the
:35:29. > :35:32.support. What a fantastic competition between you and Aled
:35:33. > :35:38.Davies. It shows how these combined categories can work, only 11 points
:35:39. > :35:44.difference between you in the end? Yes, we have been competing against
:35:45. > :35:50.each other all season. I have this remedy or performing at the right
:35:51. > :36:00.times. I performed in London and I am in the best shape of my life. He
:36:01. > :36:06.could have popped one out at any time so I was a little bit worried.
:36:07. > :36:16.As soon as the 59 went out there, I knew I had a good chance of securing
:36:17. > :36:18.it. Commonwealth champion, it feels amazing. Where does that rank in all
:36:19. > :36:24.of your achievements, the world records, world titles from over the
:36:25. > :36:31.years? It is right up there. It is my first able-bodied event. I was
:36:32. > :36:36.fortunate to be able to compete able-bodied as a junior. I was born
:36:37. > :36:43.during the Brisbane games in 1982. My parents said they were watching
:36:44. > :36:48.during her labour. You can only keep trying to excel and I have already
:36:49. > :36:52.done that. You have wrought home the first gold medal for England in the
:36:53. > :36:58.athletics. Relations, brilliant performance. Thank you very much. We
:36:59. > :37:05.got the silver yesterday, it is great to back it up with England's
:37:06. > :37:10.first gold medal. Can I shout out to Emma Bailey, if she was taken
:37:11. > :37:19.critically ill in Portugal, so I dedicate this when to her. Sorry to
:37:20. > :37:24.hear about that. Congratulations. Great performance but disappointment
:37:25. > :37:31.for Aled Davies. What direction of travel is for single classification
:37:32. > :37:36.events, we were treated to a fantastic head to head? The Daniel,
:37:37. > :37:41.appoints probably work against him and he knew what he had to do. --
:37:42. > :37:47.the points. You can see the distance and compare it with what you know
:37:48. > :37:54.you can throw but you have to wait for the points, version. It was a
:37:55. > :37:57.great performance. For British athletics, which we don't talk about
:37:58. > :38:03.here, it is good going to Rio. I know you have got to go to do other
:38:04. > :38:09.things now, but we will be talking to you over the next few days. Next
:38:10. > :38:12.on the track it is the men's heat number three which is the appearance
:38:13. > :38:17.of Michael Bingham for England. But Kirani James, right on the inside,
:38:18. > :38:39.Steve Cram? Yes he is. You are talking about him
:38:40. > :38:48.earlier on. He has gone quicker than on previous occasions. Michael
:38:49. > :38:56.Bingham, you can see him in the background. In the New York Diamond
:38:57. > :39:08.league, he ran the best I have seen him run a long time. Hasn't quite
:39:09. > :39:26.produced that sort of form but has been bad at all. Certainly plenty of
:39:27. > :39:26.quality in this men's 400 metres. Kirani
:39:27. > :39:38.been bad at all. Certainly plenty of quality in this James is the man for
:39:39. > :39:42.whom grenade hope so much for. He carried the flag for them in the
:39:43. > :40:14.opening ceremony. Not the easiest draw the James.
:40:15. > :40:24.Michael Bingham has taken you yards out of Macdonald. Kirani James
:40:25. > :40:31.easing his way through in lane one. Out on the outside, Robertson of
:40:32. > :40:34.Canada and Akwu also in contention. Michael Bingham running strong round
:40:35. > :40:38.the bend. The Jamaican out of this at the moment.
:40:39. > :40:45.the bend. The Jamaican out of this Top three to go through. Michael
:40:46. > :40:54.Bingham running an excellent race. Kirani James, Michael Bradley room
:40:55. > :41:04.-- Michael Bingham and McDonnell, as born but would suggest. --
:41:05. > :41:15.Macdonald. Always enjoy watching him run, Andrew. He runs with such ease
:41:16. > :41:27.at times. Michael Bingham, very impressive and negotiated very
:41:28. > :41:32.nicely. I love his running style. That was running well within his
:41:33. > :41:46.limits. Michael Bingham did what he had to do. I was concerned that
:41:47. > :41:58.McDonald. But he did what he had to do. Michael Bingham had a little bit
:41:59. > :42:02.left as well. That looked an impressive run, how would you assess
:42:03. > :42:12.it washed and Mark heat is always hard. Just because you have been
:42:13. > :42:21.sitting around. I think the round was OK. Was concerned with being
:42:22. > :42:25.clear and qualifying. I tightened up a little bit, just got to get things
:42:26. > :42:30.flushed out through the rounds. You talk about a long time sitting
:42:31. > :42:37.around and waiting, how much does your experience count and how much
:42:38. > :42:42.do you rely on that at these times? It is especially important but I
:42:43. > :42:45.have had a lot of support from the medical staff as well as my coaches.
:42:46. > :42:51.They have been amazing in supporting me over the last ten days. I am
:42:52. > :42:57.happy, I am getting through. All the very best for that, Michael. Quick
:42:58. > :43:02.word with Kirani James. Great to see you here, Olympic champion and what
:43:03. > :43:09.a great reception you had? It was great. Just coming here and seeing
:43:10. > :43:11.everybody in the stadium, it great. Just coming here and seeing
:43:12. > :43:19.everybody reminds me of Alabama for all game. Everybody just comes in.
:43:20. > :43:21.It is great to see the fans. They look coming out here. It is good
:43:22. > :43:29.that the athletes to have the support. Great for your country as
:43:30. > :43:34.well. You had the honour of carrying the flag into the stadium the
:43:35. > :43:41.opening ceremony? I am very proud to come here and represent my country.
:43:42. > :43:47.We look forward to seeing you in the next round. All of the best. Thank
:43:48. > :43:54.you. Back to the decathlon on and still in the second event, the long
:43:55. > :44:06.jump. This is John lane after a lifetime best in the first round, to
:44:07. > :44:11.act to -- add to his personal best. That looks around the same as his
:44:12. > :44:18.first. Might be better. White flag means it will be measured. Nice wind
:44:19. > :44:27.on the backs of the jumpers. They enjoyed it in the 100 metres.
:44:28. > :44:32.Perfect conditions. Great off the board. For a man who has only been
:44:33. > :44:44.competing for a couple of years, looks very technically proficient in
:44:45. > :44:58.this event. 7.34 was his lifetime best before the competition. 7.50
:44:59. > :45:01.and in second place overall. Confirmation of the stroll for
:45:02. > :45:17.Kirani James. Michael Bingham, nicely done. McDonald.
:45:18. > :45:28.The fourth heat for the men's 100m contains the Commonwealth Games
:45:29. > :45:33.defending champion. He's 36 now and not running the kind of times he ran
:45:34. > :45:36.when he won in Delhi four years ago. So he may find this a bit of a
:45:37. > :45:40.struggle, unless he is keeping something up his sleeve, if his vest
:45:41. > :46:00.has sleeves. Kenyan 400m running is not
:46:01. > :46:05.tremendously strong. Simmons is an American transfer to Nigeria. Want
:46:06. > :46:49.to be reckoned with. So three go through automatically,
:46:50. > :46:53.plus the three fastest losers to the semifinals tomorrow night. Nigel
:46:54. > :47:04.Levine is in pole position at the moment for the fastest losers. A
:47:05. > :47:11.bright start by Robert Simmons of Nigeria in lane three. A Louisiana
:47:12. > :47:17.state university man in the green vest, already closing on the
:47:18. > :47:22.defending champion, Mark Muttai. Pulling up on the outside is O'Brien
:47:23. > :47:27.from Ghana. Robert Simmons has pulled up as well. He is hurtling
:47:28. > :47:33.off the track. Simmons has gone. Makes things easier for those left.
:47:34. > :47:39.Latoy Williams is looking comfortable. The defending champion
:47:40. > :47:44.is under pressure, going backwards as Tugumisirize come through from
:47:45. > :47:51.Uganda. It is a victory for Williams. Tugumisirize of Uganda
:47:52. > :47:56.takes third place. But defending champion Mark Muttai of Kenya will
:47:57. > :48:03.be struggling to make the semifinals with that time. O'Brien was the
:48:04. > :48:09.first to go from Ghana. And then Simmons as well, the Nigeria, who
:48:10. > :48:15.was running well, also dropped out. Latoy Williams was the quickest.
:48:16. > :48:21.That was a little weird. Nice run from Latoy Williams. We do not see
:48:22. > :48:32.him too much on the circuit. He won in Madrid recently. It was a decent
:48:33. > :48:37.field in Madrid. This guy is going to be a contender. I was watching
:48:38. > :48:40.Robert Simmons down the back straight, and he just seemed to stop
:48:41. > :48:52.running. It was not as though he was injured. He just walked off. Latoy
:48:53. > :49:05.Williams looked impressive. Winning comfortably. Back to the decathlon.
:49:06. > :49:17.Ben Gregory came sixth in the 2000 Commonwealth Games, and is looking
:49:18. > :49:29.to get amongst the medals. Just three attempts for the decathletes.
:49:30. > :49:46.Ben Gregory has a 7.40 jump as his lifetime best. Good aggression. Ben
:49:47. > :50:04.Gregory of Wales looks pleased with that. And so he should be.
:50:05. > :50:16.Now, men's high jump qualification. This is one of the best in the
:50:17. > :50:35.world. The Canadian is looking very comfortable. Derek Drouin is one of
:50:36. > :50:42.the favourites. He will undoubtedly advance to the final. Martyn Bernard
:50:43. > :50:55.is looking to match that 2.16 clearance. Gave it a little rattle.
:50:56. > :51:03.He's asking questions. That is OK, just get off the mat! You have to
:51:04. > :51:08.get off the mat. I would have been in more of a hurry if I was him. But
:51:09. > :51:25.it is a legal jump. The bar stayed on. 2.20 may be needed to advance to
:51:26. > :51:30.the final. Ashley Bryant maybe England's best
:51:31. > :51:34.chance of a medal. He has gone to third on the all-time rankings for
:51:35. > :51:36.decathlon. His first two jumps were way below seven metres, so he is
:51:37. > :51:51.under pressure. That was better. way below seven metres, so he is
:51:52. > :51:57.Maybe just needed that impetus. He is much stronger on the second day,
:51:58. > :52:06.and he knows that. So it is damage limitation. But that looked like a
:52:07. > :52:17.possibly the best jump we have seen today in this second event of the
:52:18. > :53:21.decathlon. That is a lifetime best for him.
:53:22. > :53:27.The guy an airstrip and the Grenada strip are not that different -- the
:53:28. > :53:42.guy an strip and the Grenada strip. Chris Brown, 35 years of age,
:53:43. > :53:47.running brilliantly. Has graced the Commonwealth Games in 2002 in
:53:48. > :54:03.Manchester. Finished seventh in this event there. 12 years later, he
:54:04. > :54:10.still has a chance of a medal. Chris Brown should win this fairly
:54:11. > :54:15.comfortably. There is nobody in lane eight. So Seribe from Botswana might
:54:16. > :54:24.give Brown something to think about here. But Brown was silver medallist
:54:25. > :54:30.at the world indoor Championships this year. He has finished in fourth
:54:31. > :54:42.place more times than he would care to reflect. World Championships,
:54:43. > :54:54.Commonwealth Games. Rowland of St Kitts and Nevis is trying to stay
:54:55. > :55:07.inside round. -- inside Brown. Crisp down is easing his way through. On
:55:08. > :55:15.the outside, Seribe on what's one is leading. Crisp brown is starting to
:55:16. > :55:25.pick it up a bit. He knows it is the first three to 15. Crisp round eases
:55:26. > :55:33.his way through. -- crisp brown. That continues to be good news for
:55:34. > :55:37.Nigel Levine. He was a bit concerned, but it is beginning to
:55:38. > :55:39.look better as far as the fastest losers spot for him is concerned. No
:55:40. > :55:54.problems for crisp Chris Brown was able to keep an eye
:55:55. > :56:00.on whoever was around him so that there was no panic from him. He took
:56:01. > :56:06.a comfortable victory. In lane seven, Seribe of Botswana was
:56:07. > :56:19.running lined for most of the race. -- running blind. Chris Brown is 35
:56:20. > :56:28.and still running very well. Five heat down, two more to go. No
:56:29. > :56:32.worries for Kirani James. You know what I think about that young man.
:56:33. > :56:38.He is looking majestic this season. He controlled it as you would expect
:56:39. > :56:46.from someone of his quality. He took his time. He is so good, he was
:56:47. > :56:51.flawless. You could not even see when he accelerated. That is the
:56:52. > :56:56.level we are talking about with Kirani James. We understand why he
:56:57. > :57:01.is Olympic champion. How easy or difficult is it to run so much
:57:02. > :57:07.within yourself? For this young man, it is very easy. But you always run
:57:08. > :57:14.the risk of under cooking it sometimes in this type of race. You
:57:15. > :57:19.have got to be aware. The beauty of running in lane one was that he
:57:20. > :57:26.could see everybody. He looked relaxed. I think Colin called it. He
:57:27. > :57:33.just kept in control all the way round. It was a flawless of running,
:57:34. > :57:37.beautiful to watch. In his interview afterwards with Phil Jones, there
:57:38. > :57:40.was a real sense of pride. The rear are also some debate about the
:57:41. > :57:44.Commonwealth Games and where it fits, but there was no question in
:57:45. > :57:50.his mind that this is important for him. It is very important. Sometimes
:57:51. > :57:52.we are pretty blas?, because we have lots of Diamond League 's and
:57:53. > :57:57.European Championships, but for some of the islands, this is their major
:57:58. > :58:02.championships, and they are proud to be here. So for someone like Kirani,
:58:03. > :58:06.who has already won back grow the Olympic Games, you may have thought
:58:07. > :58:17.he would put this to back -- to the back, but no, he once this. You want
:58:18. > :58:22.to be rounding into form at the right time at the championships, and
:58:23. > :58:27.he is doing that. He was in control. He ran within himself, and it was a
:58:28. > :58:31.great qualification. Just to remind you, on the red button, England
:58:32. > :58:38.versus Wales on the hockey if you want to see that. Now, Scotland
:58:39. > :58:45.versus Wales. Andrew Cotter, the next race is yours.
:58:46. > :58:53.Yes, the next heat of the men's 400m. Tom Druce, the Guernsey
:58:54. > :58:59.runner, goes in this one in lane two. He had the best season of 47.50
:59:00. > :59:04.and he has his work cut out.
