:02:33. > :02:35.In a moment, we'll be looking back on some of

:02:36. > :02:37.yesterday's terrific performances with medallists Dan Greaves,

:03:37. > :03:45.Both teams are unbeaten so far in the group stages.

:03:46. > :03:48.And, throughout the day, you can watch every sport live

:03:49. > :03:50.on the BBC Sport website, just go to bbc.co.uk/glasgow2014

:03:51. > :03:58.And all that works on your mobile device as well, so, if you're out

:03:59. > :04:05.and about or even at work, you shouldn't have to miss a thing.

:04:06. > :04:08.Let's start with athletics, though, which got off to a great start

:04:09. > :04:10.yesterday, with huge crowds at Hampden Park, inspiring the athletes

:04:11. > :04:15.That was certainly the case late in the evening,

:04:16. > :04:31.when both the women's and men's 100m finals produced some stunning runs.

:04:32. > :04:42.COMMENTATOR: Hampden Park falls silent. The 100m final.

:04:43. > :04:49.Away first time, Campbell-Brown. A good start by blessing Blessing

:04:50. > :04:55.Okagbare. Here comes the tall Nigerian, storming to the line and a

:04:56. > :05:04.gold medal. Campbell-Brown is second. What a run!

:05:05. > :05:11.A new season's best. My work has been based on the Commonwealth

:05:12. > :05:19.Games, I am just happy. The men's 100m final.

:05:20. > :05:34.Jeb Nikos away. And here he comes. Miguel Angel Jiminez has gone by Tim

:05:35. > :05:35.-- Adam Gemili. The gold goes to Jamaica once more. Ten sat the

:05:36. > :05:55.winning time. Congratulations to both of you, what

:05:56. > :06:00.does it mean to you? It is my first visual medal in a Championships.

:06:01. > :06:04.A big breakthrough for you are big things are predicted a view, this is

:06:05. > :06:08.just the start. Just the start of the individual

:06:09. > :06:11.medal. Congratulations, you have done

:06:12. > :06:16.Jamaica proud. Let us bring in Adam. I can see the

:06:17. > :06:25.reaction, when that result came up on the board, describe it for me.

:06:26. > :06:29.My first senior medal. Oh, I speak less -- speechless. There was so

:06:30. > :06:33.much preparation which goes into running ten seconds. I have a great

:06:34. > :06:41.team behind me. They know who they are watching. I can't believe it. My

:06:42. > :06:45.first time representing England. I am so happy. That perception you got

:06:46. > :06:49.at the start must have given you goose bumps before the race. And to

:06:50. > :06:55.clinch a medal. It was unbelievable. -- that

:06:56. > :07:00.reception. Something I will never forget my

:07:01. > :07:04.life. The reception was brilliant. It is not about time but position,

:07:05. > :07:10.and I have done it, I am over the moon.

:07:11. > :07:17.As you say, it is a medal that counts, it is what you can build

:07:18. > :07:24.on. Exactly. The times will come, hopefully, a decent time, with the

:07:25. > :07:28.guys looking after me. Medals are what count. This is a stepping stone

:07:29. > :07:34.for the World Championships, the Europeans in a couple of weeks, and

:07:35. > :07:38.eventually we are. Thank you, I have got so many messages, thanked you

:07:39. > :07:46.for all of the support, I can't thank you enough.

:07:47. > :07:52.The first medals were won in the para discus.

:07:53. > :07:55.The first ones were won in the men's para discus by these two

:07:56. > :07:58.gentlemen, Dan Greaves who won gold, and Aled Davies who got the silver.

:07:59. > :08:05.the men's para discus by these two And eventful day. At that moment in

:08:06. > :08:12.there, when you through the discus, did you know how well you have done?

:08:13. > :08:17.Yes, I first two did not go to plan but my third, I got hold of and you

:08:18. > :08:21.can always tell from your fingers, there is a tingling sensation when

:08:22. > :08:26.it rips through your fingers. I knew I had sent it, and I had fight to

:08:27. > :08:28.stay in the circle. Pretty much the same feeling I get in training all

:08:29. > :08:38.the time. Let us show it to everyone again.

:08:39. > :08:41.The minute it left your hand, you had a good feeling?

:08:42. > :08:45.I was struggling to pull through my shoulder blades and get the

:08:46. > :08:53.elevation right in the first two. On that one, yes, the elevation comes

:08:54. > :08:59.up. And I managed to keep it flat and it took off. Unfortunately, it

:09:00. > :09:01.bounced just in front of the 16th line. I couldn't really tell.

:09:02. > :09:18.Normally they have markers. -- 60. And lead, North Road came a little

:09:19. > :09:27.bit later on, how was it for you to watch him? -- Aled.

:09:28. > :09:33.What did you think when you saw him put in a throwback that one? He is

:09:34. > :09:41.an incredible athlete, at the best of his career. He can go 63 metres.

:09:42. > :09:46.So I knew it would take something special to beat him. All I thought I

:09:47. > :09:47.would have to do is to go in there and deliver my best performance

:09:48. > :09:56.possible. It didn't quite go to plan, if you

:09:57. > :10:04.things I could have improved on. It was a very emotional day. Still good

:10:05. > :10:09.enough for the silver medal. A fantastic achievement at the

:10:10. > :10:12.Commonwealth Games. Definitely. Looking back now, my first

:10:13. > :10:15.Commonwealth Games. I still have a lot of learning to do. Hopefully, my

:10:16. > :10:28.career will as successful. You have many more Games ahead of

:10:29. > :10:36.you, I am sure. I -- my first senior international

:10:37. > :10:41.was 2011. And I took a medal in my first Games, so I hope I can follow

:10:42. > :10:48.in his footsteps and keep para-sport going in the discus.

:10:49. > :10:51.Your first Paralympics was in Sydney 2000.

:10:52. > :10:59.Not even I can remember that far back! I had my 18th birthday on the

:11:00. > :11:02.aeroplane on the way to Sydney. They took me on a whim really for

:11:03. > :11:08.experience and I came up with a silver medal.

:11:09. > :11:15.You have won a medal every single Paralympics since? Yes, every

:11:16. > :11:20.Paralympics, wild Championships, Europeans, for the last 14 years, I

:11:21. > :11:26.thank my lucky stars. It is down to my team, my coach, my parents. We

:11:27. > :11:32.have a great system and it works. We will keep going on until 2017 which

:11:33. > :11:34.is when I will be hanging up my shoes.

:11:35. > :11:40.So you're not done. Speaking of support, Hampden Park

:11:41. > :11:44.looked fantastic last night. What was it like to be competing, but

:11:45. > :11:49.that crowd around you? Incredible. 80,000 in London, but

:11:50. > :11:54.the noise from those 40,000 fans yesterday, it makes me tingle right

:11:55. > :11:57.the noise from those 40,000 fans now. That is what elevates you to a

:11:58. > :12:03.great performance. now. That is what elevates you to a

:12:04. > :12:12.unbelievable, I want to thank them for making it special. The Hampden

:12:13. > :12:21.Park raw. Yes, we felt like we were Scottish! They got behind everyone

:12:22. > :12:29.What is it like for you to compete -- roar.

:12:30. > :12:33.What is it like for you to compete in an integrated event? It is

:12:34. > :12:37.striking for viewers certainly, one of the striking thing Tour about the

:12:38. > :12:50.Commonwealth Games. It is really good --

:12:51. > :12:56.things. We are in separate classes. So it is

:12:57. > :12:57.great to give everyone this opportunity. The Nigerian

:12:58. > :12:59.great to give everyone this came third was phenomenal.

:13:00. > :13:04.great to give everyone this one leg. He put his cracked down,

:13:05. > :13:10.great to give everyone this and he threw 38 metres. He got a

:13:11. > :13:14.standing ovation, the biggest cheer of the day. Such an inspiration.

:13:15. > :13:19.That is what we have in Paralympics. To be integrated, we

:13:20. > :13:22.are all athletes fighting for medals. You get some inspiration

:13:23. > :13:23.like that. I had lots of people, to medals. You get some inspiration

:13:24. > :13:31.me, thanking me. Hopefully they will medals. You get some inspiration

:13:32. > :13:38.go home well into sport. What happens next for you? You have

:13:39. > :13:42.a solve a medal this time, you got a gold medal at London 2012. Your next

:13:43. > :13:50.chappie ships is not far away. We both have the European

:13:51. > :13:53.Championships ten days away. Then, of course, we have our own events in

:13:54. > :13:57.Rio. We both want to keep dominating of course, we have our own events in

:13:58. > :14:03.the world of throwing as much as we can. And keep pushing the barriers.

:14:04. > :14:09.I have no doubt you will carry on, having seen you in action in

:14:10. > :14:16.Glasgow. Good luck for the future. Thanks you for coming in this

:14:17. > :14:23.morning. Greg Rutherford will be in action

:14:24. > :14:28.today. We saw him become Olympic champion in London. Since then, he

:14:29. > :14:35.has struggled with injury, but is hoping his form will have returned

:14:36. > :14:41.at the right time. Ultimately, no matter what happens,

:14:42. > :14:49.nothing will come close to super Saturday. Everything went right. I

:14:50. > :14:56.experienced the greatest moment of my life. Jess had just gone out and

:14:57. > :15:02.won. I remember thinking, this is absolutely incredible. I had this

:15:03. > :15:08.feeling of wanting a little bit of that reaction the crowd gave. I was

:15:09. > :15:13.sitting in a good position, my second round attempt had put me into

:15:14. > :15:17.first place. Ultimately, as soon as I started running down the runway,

:15:18. > :15:23.muscle memory takes over, everything felt good. I felt that lift from

:15:24. > :15:29.what I had just seen, and the crowd going mad. As soon as I hit and took

:15:30. > :15:34.off, I knew it was pretty good. It just happened, the third best

:15:35. > :15:35.jump of my career. One that would take the on to become Olympic

:15:36. > :15:51.champion. An amazing moment. I knew they were in the stadium, but

:15:52. > :15:56.I didn't know where. That was my first reaction, I just wanted to see

:15:57. > :16:12.them, then finally I heard them. Obviously just jumped in and gave

:16:13. > :16:16.them a bigger. -- a big hug. You have to deal with the scrutiny from

:16:17. > :16:20.the media, especially when you have done well, everyone expects you to

:16:21. > :16:25.do it every time, and there is only Usain Bolt - apart from that, not

:16:26. > :16:29.many get it right every single time. When it goes slightly wrong, you get

:16:30. > :16:33.a bit more stick, and that is something you have to deal with and

:16:34. > :16:36.understand, and also your private life and everything else is

:16:37. > :16:42.scrutinised as well. So these are things that I don't think you can

:16:43. > :16:45.prepare for. Ultimately, if I hadn't gone to the World Championships in

:16:46. > :16:50.2013, I would have been wondering, what if? The story of my life in

:16:51. > :16:54.injuries, it strikes at precisely the wrong time, and everyone around

:16:55. > :16:58.you is expecting from you, they expect you to do well. With two out

:16:59. > :17:03.of three hamstrings working, it doesn't actually happen! After the

:17:04. > :17:06.injury last year and seeing how my body reacted in the World

:17:07. > :17:09.Championships, I wasn't sure whether or not I'd be able to get back to

:17:10. > :17:16.the level that I had been previously. You had a really good

:17:17. > :17:20.winter season, and then to go and set a British record, you must be

:17:21. > :17:26.pretty chuffed with that. Absolutely, yeah, over the moon. I

:17:27. > :17:30.went really well at a competition indoors, I was chuffed to bits with

:17:31. > :17:36.it. I only finished third, but I beat the people I needed to beat. I

:17:37. > :17:40.jumped a PB indoors, and I thought, there is probably more, but I just

:17:41. > :17:44.need to get away and get some training done. It is a great way to

:17:45. > :17:50.start the season, exactly how my season started in 2012, and that

:17:51. > :17:53.went on to be a pretty good year. Are significant to you the

:17:54. > :17:57.Commonwealth Games? It is the biggest focus of 2014, it is what

:17:58. > :18:04.the focus has been since I came back from the injury in 2013, purely

:18:05. > :18:05.going out in Glasgow and becoming Commonwealth champion. Everything I

:18:06. > :18:20.am doing is geared towards winning. Well, if these Games have inspired

:18:21. > :18:24.you, you can get all the details you need about getting involved in local

:18:25. > :18:26.athletics clubs or any of the 17 sports at the Games, by going to the

:18:27. > :18:43.BBC website. Well, speaking of inspiring and

:18:44. > :18:46.performances, one of them at the Games came courtesy of Libby Clegg,

:18:47. > :18:56.who got one of the loudest roars of the Games last night in the final of

:18:57. > :19:02.the T11/12 100m, and she is here, having won that gold medal

:19:03. > :19:08.yesterday. It has not really hit me yet, it has not signed in. As the

:19:09. > :19:13.day goes on, I think it will settle. But no, absolutely incredible. Not

:19:14. > :19:18.only did you win, but he did it in such style, and incredible race to

:19:19. > :19:22.watch. You and your guide runner just shot out of the blocks, and he

:19:23. > :19:29.won by an incredible margin. I know, well, we sort of had a race plan,

:19:30. > :19:33.and we executed it perfectly. The bus of that was obviously winning a

:19:34. > :19:39.gold medal and running a season's best. We are seeing you here now,

:19:40. > :19:43.you are powering ahead, the distance between you and your competitors is

:19:44. > :19:50.incredible, did you sort of gauge how far edge you work? Did you have

:19:51. > :19:54.any idea? I didn't know how far ahead we were. I knew we were in the

:19:55. > :20:02.lead at about 60, but I wasn't sure, it ended up all glory into one

:20:03. > :20:06.moment. -- all blurring. How can you tell you are in the lead? Because

:20:07. > :20:10.your vision is very severely impaired, you are registered blind.

:20:11. > :20:15.It is kind of a feeling, but also the way they crowd were roaring and

:20:16. > :20:19.cheering, I could tell I was in the lead as well. Usually you can feel

:20:20. > :20:24.your competitors around you, and I couldn't feel anyone. There was just

:20:25. > :20:29.air all around you, no competitors any near you! No, so the crowd were

:20:30. > :20:35.incredible, really uplifting. It felt like they were carrying you

:20:36. > :20:39.down the track. Fantastic to watch. What is the relationship with your

:20:40. > :20:44.guide? You obviously train together, and when you start

:20:45. > :20:49.training with someone who is your guide, how long does it take before

:20:50. > :20:54.you think, this is the one? I have been running with him for four

:20:55. > :20:59.years, previous to that I was running with his stepdad. We went to

:21:00. > :21:06.the World Championships together, then Lincoln thought it was time to

:21:07. > :21:13.hand over the reins. So he said, I know someone who? Yes, he had a go,

:21:14. > :21:22.we collect and it worked, we have been together ever since. And there

:21:23. > :21:27.is a strap around your wrist, you are running elbow to elbow. It is

:21:28. > :21:31.actually a weightlifting strap that we wrap around our hands to keep us

:21:32. > :21:36.together, and it seems to work for us. We were trying to think of

:21:37. > :21:40.something that wouldn't... Well, the new rules said you couldn't have an

:21:41. > :21:44.elasticated rope, and you have to make your own. We thought, a

:21:45. > :21:48.weightlifting strap, it has just worked. It worked in fantastic style

:21:49. > :21:54.last night. A brilliant win for you, and then afterwards you really felt

:21:55. > :22:00.the love of the crowd, didn't you? We sort you go right around, do a

:22:01. > :22:05.full lap of Hampden Park. That took our long? I think it's talk about 45

:22:06. > :22:11.minutes! We were getting so much support from everyone in the crowd,

:22:12. > :22:18.we wanted to say hello to everyone. I don't know, everyone was giving us

:22:19. > :22:22.high fives, wanting photographs. What does that mean to you? So much

:22:23. > :22:27.of the time you are training in pretty solitary circumstances, and

:22:28. > :22:34.then you get out there at a home Games, you have that kind of result

:22:35. > :22:39.and reaction. Yeah, no, it was so nice to get that reaction.

:22:40. > :22:43.Overwhelming, we never have had so much attention before, but it was

:22:44. > :22:48.incredible, meeting everyone, people saying how proud they were of ours.

:22:49. > :22:55.There was so much support, it was fantastic. Have you slept much? I

:22:56. > :23:00.think I have had about five hours' sleep, but I will survive! You have

:23:01. > :23:05.the golden glow around you for sure! What's next? You have competed in

:23:06. > :23:10.London and here, what does the future hold? The Europeans in a

:23:11. > :23:15.couple of weeks in Swansea, then the World Championships, and then Rio in

:23:16. > :23:20.2016. I have a busy couple of years ahead of me! A packed schedule, good

:23:21. > :23:23.luck with it, so many people will now be following your progress

:23:24. > :23:26.having seen what you can do. Very best of luck. Libby Clegg, thank

:23:27. > :23:30.you. If you are heading out this morning,

:23:31. > :23:36.don't forget that you can still watch all of the action from Glasgow

:23:42. > :23:48.Commonwealth games on BBC Sport. Follow all the action as it unfolds

:25:21. > :25:26.clear that he does not appreciate a selfie, but that did not stop Anna

:29:08. > :29:11.Robert Weale taking on Sam Tolchard. Here on BBC One for the next 30

:29:12. > :29:16.minutes also, we are Here on BBC One for the next 30

:29:17. > :29:26.minutes taking you to the netball, just across the water at the SECC.

:29:27. > :29:31.This is a key match for England's women, hoping to bounce back from

:29:32. > :29:35.the defeat against Australia. Before we see them in action, here is your

:29:36. > :29:42.guide to the game. Netball requires determination in

:29:43. > :29:49.defence, agility in attack, and skilful shooting. Each team

:29:50. > :29:54.comprises seven players playing in a rectangular court with raised

:29:55. > :30:00.goalposts at either end. Each player has a specific position on the team

:30:01. > :30:05.with a baby indicating their role. The position indicates there is

:30:06. > :30:10.movement is limited, and if a player and quotas beyond their designated

:30:11. > :30:14.area, a free pass is awarded to the other team. -- encroaches. Defenders

:30:15. > :30:17.have to stand three feet away from the player with the ball and can

:30:18. > :30:21.only win it back once it has been released. A player with the ball may

:30:22. > :30:26.take no more than one step before passing it, and they must pass or

:30:27. > :30:29.shoot for goal within three seconds of taking possession. Only the goal

:30:30. > :30:34.shooter and goal attack positions may attempt to take shots from

:30:35. > :30:38.inside the shooting circle. Similarly, only the goal defence and

:30:39. > :30:46.goalkeeper may enter the circle in a bid to thwart the attacking side.

:30:47. > :30:50.Let's get over to the SECC, England needing to win their final two games

:30:51. > :31:11.to guarantee qualification for the semifinals.

:31:12. > :31:28.McCollin. Goal attack. Rhonda Davis. Tricia

:31:29. > :31:42.Liverpool. We'll defence Onella Jack.

:31:43. > :31:56.And goal difference Kemba Duncan. And the coach, Wesley Gomez. And

:31:57. > :31:59.please welcome your umpire. Delivering the match ball is our

:32:00. > :32:13.competition winner from Falkirk! Trinidad and Tobago get as under

:32:14. > :32:21.way, attacking the post to our left hand side, playing in the black

:32:22. > :32:28.strip. An important first phase of possession for Trinidad and Tobago.

:32:29. > :32:33.The Collin gets the chance to open proceedings but cannot find the

:32:34. > :32:47.target. Anita is our resident netball

:32:48. > :32:55.expert. England also struggling to find the opening goal.

:32:56. > :33:01.Corbin sensing she needs to work closer. It is a fast start by

:33:02. > :33:08.England. England starting with Harten, in the

:33:09. > :33:15.shooting circle, as they have done throughout this tournament.

:33:16. > :33:22.Jade Clarke has moved up to wing attack. She hasn't started there

:33:23. > :33:27.before. Sara Bayman in Centre Court starting

:33:28. > :33:50.for the first time. Trinidad and Tobago have the Collin

:33:51. > :33:57.and Cooper in attack. McCollin having a second shot and a second

:33:58. > :34:01.miss. She needs to get her confidence going.

:34:02. > :34:09.Struggling with the height of Geva Mentor. Some strong communication.

:34:10. > :34:13.Struggling with the height of Geva contact call. Giving Daystar

:34:14. > :34:20.possession. Mentor has had a good tournament for

:34:21. > :34:24.England. Joanne Harten ringing that under control.

:34:25. > :34:28.Good pressure by England in the mid-court. Positioned in front of

:34:29. > :34:36.the Trinidad and Tobago players. Daystar Swift gets herself into the

:34:37. > :34:41.mix in the shooting circle. Corbin was unlucky, trying to keep

:34:42. > :34:52.that alive. Trinidad and Tobago on the bench.

:34:53. > :34:58.Contact called against Beckford-Chambers. Oh, lovely work

:34:59. > :35:04.Contact called against from Sara Bayman. In the starting

:35:05. > :35:12.line-up for the first time. Rubber-stamping that start.

:35:13. > :35:23.It is good but so far by Sara Bayman, she read the ball well for

:35:24. > :35:35.the intercept. Top of the circle. Clarke availability good for the

:35:36. > :35:47.pass. -- Clarke's. Corbin opens her account.

:35:48. > :35:55.Joelisa Cooper just trying to work this ball. They need to work on

:35:56. > :36:03.pulling some width through to goal. That is a penalty corner. Penalty

:36:04. > :36:10.over in that far side. Joelisa Cooper. Wasn't expecting

:36:11. > :36:17.that pass. Liverpool was there. And running out of time.

:36:18. > :36:26.Great pressure. Beckford-Chambers winning her 50th cap for England,

:36:27. > :36:33.congratulations to her. Just finding Joanne Harten. A good

:36:34. > :36:37.move forward from Kadeen Corbin. They need some consistency in the

:36:38. > :36:50.shooting. Quality movement but they need to convert the goal.

:36:51. > :36:58.Good defence by England, Sara Bayman, lots of pressure going on

:36:59. > :37:08.through the court. Corbin, finding the target. Inside

:37:09. > :37:16.the opening five minutes. It could have gone in earlier from Corbin,

:37:17. > :37:27.through to Harten. A strong front body position against Daystar Swift.

:37:28. > :37:29.Oh! And Swift and jack, Duncan, sorry, trying to keep the ball

:37:30. > :37:45.alive, and they both collide. Quite a fuse stray passes in the

:37:46. > :37:52.game at the moment. -- few.

:37:53. > :37:58.England have lost the structure. They need to set the triangle around

:37:59. > :38:01.the shooting circle. Great play by Beckford-Chambers. It is difficult

:38:02. > :38:07.for Trinidad and Tobago in that mid-court area.

:38:08. > :38:14.Nice exchange of passes between Damen and Corbin.

:38:15. > :38:17.England now lead. Trinidad yet to find the target.

:38:18. > :38:33.Just pushing up, England. Trying to force the diagonal ball.

:38:34. > :38:41.Sara Bayman, clever play by her. That was a good pass to split the

:38:42. > :38:43.England defence. Joelisa Cooper opens up the Trinidad and Tobago

:38:44. > :38:51.account. Some good vision from Rhonda

:38:52. > :38:57.John-Davis. That was a brilliant take.

:38:58. > :39:05.That is more like it for England. With Kadeen Corbin, a goal line run.

:39:06. > :39:10.They last met in a tri- Nations tournament in South Africa in

:39:11. > :39:22.October last year. England beat the dad and Tobago 56-24 on that

:39:23. > :39:28.occasion. I imagine it will be something

:39:29. > :39:34.similar here today. Certainly, with England leading

:39:35. > :39:38.inside the first seven and a half minutes.

:39:39. > :39:48.They have got the perfect start. Tricia Liverpool, putting pressure

:39:49. > :40:04.along the circle edge. That was unlucky for Jade Clarke.

:40:05. > :40:12.Cooper, John-Davis, high in the court area, this is where Trinidad

:40:13. > :40:16.and Tobago need to make the path to the circle edge.

:40:17. > :40:30.There was no way through for Rhonda John-Davis.

:40:31. > :40:40.A footwork call against Joanne Harten.

:40:41. > :40:49.A quick recover from John-Davis, finds herself down in court. You

:40:50. > :40:55.mentioned the structure for England. They have to try to impose their

:40:56. > :41:01.game onto this match, don't they, England? As do Trinidad. Either

:41:02. > :41:07.side, neither side finding their own game. It is crucial for England,

:41:08. > :41:12.particularly that they set the structure around the circle edge.

:41:13. > :41:16.And perhaps start to see some relationship with Corbin and Harten,

:41:17. > :41:24.some screens, just mixing up the play. McCollin, putting the goal in.

:41:25. > :41:35.She is trying to do a lot out there.

:41:36. > :41:43.England have had four interception is already in this game.

:41:44. > :41:55.-- interceptions. McCollin working the ground.

:41:56. > :42:01.Good work from Beckford-Chambers. A real height difference in that

:42:02. > :42:09.shooting circle. England, much taller.

:42:10. > :42:45.That was lovely work. That was pretty close to offside.

:42:46. > :42:51.It has gone against the goalkeeper, Daystar Swift.

:42:52. > :42:58.Another goal from Corbin. Fans watching on. New Zealand are up

:42:59. > :43:03.against St Lucia in the next game. They will be taking in the first

:43:04. > :43:08.half of the first game on day seven. Then into the pre-match warm up

:43:09. > :43:25.routine and chat. If England and Australia win their

:43:26. > :43:32.opening games, then New Zealand will be playing England in the semifinal.

:43:33. > :43:38.I am sure New Zealand will be interested to see this combination

:43:39. > :43:45.of Clarke and Bayman. Daystar Swift is quick.

:43:46. > :44:04.Tricia Liverpool, too much forward Kadeen Corbin, not fazed there. Some

:44:05. > :44:09.good pressure by England. You can see three over on the line. Sara

:44:10. > :44:13.Bayman is picking up a lot of possession, a lot of deflections.

:44:14. > :44:21.Bayman is picking up a lot of good start to the game by Sara

:44:22. > :44:29.Bayman. That is a good ball through from Guthrie.

:44:30. > :44:29.Bayman. That is a good ball through causing havoc

:44:30. > :44:42.Good work from Bayman. circle.

:44:43. > :44:49.Good work from Bayman. England are getting to the passes.

:44:50. > :44:56.They have a good front position. It gives them a little time, you can

:44:57. > :45:00.see again, real denial by Guthrie. Not letting any player get to the

:45:01. > :45:13.circle edge. It has gone

:45:14. > :45:46.players, we saw the Trinidad and Tobago bench,

:45:47. > :46:00.McCullen, good links by the Trinidad and Tobago shooters. -- good by.

:46:01. > :46:05.We have from Bayman, from the

:46:06. > :46:09.We have difference to the previous against

:46:10. > :46:23.South Africa. A tough first quarter against South

:46:24. > :46:29.Africa, they trailed at quarter time 8-9 in that one. No such

:46:30. > :46:29.difficulties here today. Chambers almost

:46:30. > :46:40.difficulties here today. Chambers perfection, just pulled up by the

:46:41. > :46:52.South African umpire. Good screen on the line by Clarke allowing Corbin

:46:53. > :46:57.to come through. Just a little bit flat in the shooting circle, Harten

:46:58. > :47:04.realised that, moved out through the top. Inside the final ten seconds,

:47:05. > :47:10.England's lead by ten, a good start to this match by them. Trinidad and

:47:11. > :47:15.Tobago, can they find the last goal? No, they can't, England have

:47:16. > :47:19.one goal a minute for their efforts in the first quarter, which they

:47:20. > :47:30.lead by ten over Trinidad and Tobago.

:47:31. > :47:35.So a good start for England, but for Trinidad and Tobago, their first

:47:36. > :47:38.goal coming with eight and a half minutes remaining in the first

:47:39. > :47:48.quarter. Still in the 70s, the shooting

:47:49. > :47:54.percentages, and that is something that needs to be worked on. Shot

:47:55. > :47:59.attempts, what a difference, 19-7. And there we start to see the impact

:48:00. > :48:02.of ball into the circle, the goal assists for England far greater,

:48:03. > :48:10.breaking down for Trinidad and Tobago in the mid-court.

:48:11. > :48:17.Trinidad and Tobago did struggle to start with, it took them six and a

:48:18. > :48:23.half minutes to get their first shot. Good interception by Bayman.

:48:24. > :48:27.It is often the first line of defence for England that is coming

:48:28. > :48:32.out with possession. When the triangle is set around the circle,

:48:33. > :48:38.it works, and there we see Beckford-Chambers, good tracking,

:48:39. > :48:43.goody... Goodbody position on the goal attack. Joelisa Cooper keeps

:48:44. > :48:50.fighting strong for Trinidad and Tobago, working well with McCollin.

:48:51. > :48:59.That's straight ball is the one England's needs to do more of.

:49:00. > :49:04.Continued the defence, make sure when we are dropping off, we step

:49:05. > :49:39.back. So some changes to tell you about

:49:40. > :49:48.for Trinidad and Tobago, Rhonda John-Davis goes from wing attack to

:49:49. > :49:52.centre. And La Roche-Brice comes in to wing defence. So a little change,

:49:53. > :49:57.a double shuffle in the mid-court for Wesley Gomez. Anika La

:49:58. > :50:02.Roche-Brice, the captain, has a chance to have an influence on this

:50:03. > :50:07.game. As for England, no changes for them.

:50:08. > :50:19.So England get this second quarter under way, leading by ten, and

:50:20. > :50:27.opting not to shuffle her pack for this second 15 minutes, or at least

:50:28. > :50:31.the start of it. It is an 11-macro gold, unlucky for Kadeen Corbin. La

:50:32. > :50:49.Roche-Brice, John-Davis. Guthrie gets the throw in for

:50:50. > :50:56.England, some great defence from England, and then thrown away.

:50:57. > :51:10.Mentor and Guthrie not on the same wavelength.

:51:11. > :51:17.It is a struggle for them when they get to the circle edge, they feed

:51:18. > :51:22.much better, the swing of the ball, but no lead to the front pocket.

:51:23. > :51:27.With the swing needs to come the movement of the shooters, and the

:51:28. > :51:32.idea was right, but credits to Trinidad and Tobago. They were

:51:33. > :51:36.patient, they could not get the ball to circle edge, but they retained

:51:37. > :51:41.possession with that shot gain. That is good.

:51:42. > :51:58.Fast hands by Harten, sensing the movement of the goal attack for

:51:59. > :52:01.England. Crucial that Trinidad and Tobago keep working the ground,

:52:02. > :52:04.pulling their fence apart from England, who have set their page in

:52:05. > :52:17.the centre of the court. They lead to the front pocket a

:52:18. > :52:28.split too late, but they do feed it into the back, where Trinidad score

:52:29. > :52:38.another goal. Cuppa finding the target. -- Cooper. Good reset in,

:52:39. > :52:43.getting the ball back to the transfers line, Clarke going again.

:52:44. > :52:55.Jack getting out well at the centre pass for Trinidad and Tobago.

:52:56. > :53:09.Jack into John-Davis, this is McCollin. It has gone against La

:53:10. > :53:12.Roche-Brice. That is allowing England still have another attack.

:53:13. > :53:18.Well, that is not one from the training manual, but it works for

:53:19. > :53:35.England on that occasion. Yes, Harten just needed Clarke in

:53:36. > :53:41.the pocket, but she recovered well. Just timing a little bit for England

:53:42. > :53:48.letting them down as they get into this final phase towards the

:53:49. > :53:55.shooting circle. That is better work from Bayman through to Joe -- Jo

:53:56. > :54:11.Harten. Daystar Swift is tracking well, a

:54:12. > :54:17.difficult defender to get around, and probably just realising that

:54:18. > :54:25.now, Jo Harten, potentially better if she stays back with one on one in

:54:26. > :54:29.the circle. With the medal matches to come, the semifinal and then

:54:30. > :54:31.either gold or bronze, it is going to be looking after the ball, isn't

:54:32. > :54:37.it? It is, possession will be to be looking after the ball, isn't

:54:38. > :54:40.crucial. Individual errors for any team who want to be in the

:54:41. > :54:44.semifinals, they need to be eradicated from their

:54:45. > :54:56.semifinals, they need to be sent out a

:54:57. > :55:07.with a phenomenal display against Malawi. It was an incredible first

:55:08. > :55:13.half, 25-10, 23-15, there were goals galore, Jamaica looked really

:55:14. > :55:16.ominous. You can't really say that either New Zealand, Australia or

:55:17. > :55:23.England have put down a performance like that yet in this tournament.

:55:24. > :55:26.Jamaica, the first team to really show their hands. Unlucky, Sara

:55:27. > :55:33.Bayman. Yes, definitely working the ball well, Jamaica, with lots of

:55:34. > :55:39.options on the bench, lots of positional changes that they could

:55:40. > :55:41.make. Tactically, Jamaica could play a very different game when it

:55:42. > :55:48.make. Tactically, Jamaica could play to the semifinal stages, if they did

:55:49. > :55:59.opt for two of their main aerial base shooters. Aged and played at

:56:00. > :56:05.goalkeeper last night for Jamaica, incredibly effective. -- Aitken.

:56:06. > :56:11.That is another option that Jamaica house. But that is in the future,

:56:12. > :56:16.this is now, and Trinidad and Tobago just a little wayward on that shot.

:56:17. > :56:28.this is now, and Trinidad and Tobago And England will go hunting for

:56:29. > :56:32.12- goal lead. A handle on is in there from La Roche-Brice, and a

:56:33. > :56:47.legal one, halting the flow of the attack.

:56:48. > :57:07.Nowhere to go for Harten, back to the transfers line, feeds Bayman. --

:57:08. > :57:13.Nowhere to go for Harten, back to transverse. A shove in the shoulder

:57:14. > :57:18.from Harten, and England get that 12 point lead back. It is interesting,

:57:19. > :57:19.Jo Harten doing an awful lot of the play, Kadeen

:57:20. > :57:24.Jo Harten doing an awful lot of the shots in this game. That is a better

:57:25. > :57:36.finish from Jo Harten. Good pressure again by England, just

:57:37. > :57:44.seeing how they try to force wide, tried to deny the movement. Pole,

:57:45. > :57:48.Geva Mentor! -- oh. We have seen some fantastic athleticism from a

:57:49. > :57:53.number of athletes at this tournament. Credits to the line of

:57:54. > :57:55.defence in front of Geva Mentor there, they put the pressure on to

:57:56. > :58:01.allow that movement through there, they put the pressure on to

:58:02. > :58:07.that ball. Time out being called as we have another look at this piece

:58:08. > :58:16.of work. Superb pick-up by Sara Bayman. Khalifa McCollin has called

:58:17. > :58:21.the time out, looking for some attention, she is just having some

:58:22. > :58:37.work done on that right ankle. Trinidad opening their account in

:58:38. > :58:41.the second quarter are a lot earlier than they did in the first, but not

:58:42. > :58:45.being able to score at regular intervals and get some sort of

:58:46. > :58:49.momentum going. It is tough for them, and we mentioned Sara Bayman

:58:50. > :58:54.starting for the first time, she has had a good game. Solid performance

:58:55. > :58:57.so far from Sara Bayman, and she picks off an awful lot of

:58:58. > :59:02.possession, she is the real threat for Trinidad and Tobago in the

:59:03. > :59:07.mid-court as they tried to move the ball through the court. She is on

:59:08. > :59:13.fire, Sara Bayman, a safe pair of hands in delivering through to goal.

:59:14. > :59:22.The driving force for Manchester Thunder, who won the Super League in

:59:23. > :59:28.Great Britain last season. And good to see her back, because she had a

:59:29. > :59:32.knee injury she, a couple of seasons ago? If you are wondering what the

:59:33. > :59:37.black things are on the back of their necks, it is a GPS that track

:59:38. > :59:38.their movements throughout the match so the analysis can be done with a

:59:39. > :59:56.fine tooth comb. Here is Jade Clarke to Bayman, and

:59:57. > :00:00.there you go, having talked up, the commentator's curs, she cannot bring

:00:01. > :00:13.that in! The swing of the ball to John-Davis.

:00:14. > :00:41.Cooper scores. McCollin almost playing a centre

:00:42. > :00:51.wing attack role. That challenge was almost a little

:00:52. > :01:14.brush. -- rash.

:01:15. > :01:22.That was rifled in there, too Corbin. The idea was right.

:01:23. > :01:28.England are having a patch. Struggling to work it through.

:01:29. > :01:43.A better start by Trinidad and Tobago. After the time-out.

:01:44. > :01:51.McCollin knows exactly what she needs to do. That movement towards

:01:52. > :01:56.the ball, opening up the space to get the ball through to Joelisa

:01:57. > :02:07.Cooper. A wonderful pass from John-Davis,

:02:08. > :02:16.but not quite red in the attacking circle -- read. England haven't

:02:17. > :02:20.added to their score, they can't afford to have a period in the game

:02:21. > :02:25.of two or three minutes where you don't score goals. Because no

:02:26. > :02:32.opposition can take the game away from you in that moment. Absolutely.

:02:33. > :02:36.Credit to Trinidad and Tobago. They have worked the ball, played the

:02:37. > :02:41.short game, getting to the circle edge. 7-5 to England in this

:02:42. > :02:50.quarter. Oh, dear. Cooper coming up short on

:02:51. > :02:55.the shot, and all the good work didn't bring any reward.

:02:56. > :03:00.Clarke, three minutes since England scored a goal.

:03:01. > :03:06.Good vision by Corbin. A fast release, two on one, Joanne Harten.

:03:07. > :03:11.Good vision by Corbin. A fast release, two on She clawed that ball

:03:12. > :03:29.in. Isn't that her nickname in the

:03:30. > :03:40.league, The Claw. A good pick up again by

:03:41. > :03:42.Beckford-Chambers. She will be looking for more constituency,

:03:43. > :03:53.Joanne, in this game. England, as you mentioned, eight

:03:54. > :04:03.goals in this quarter so far. Really, a minimum of 12 in each

:04:04. > :04:09.quarter. 18 goals is their target. So, that

:04:10. > :04:13.is the understanding to compete with number one and number two in this

:04:14. > :04:21.world. Firing at 50% right now. Equally

:04:22. > :04:25.looking at the distribution between the number of shots between goal

:04:26. > :04:29.attack, goal shooter, targets on the goal attacks. Sharing some of that

:04:30. > :04:42.shooting. A bit of pressure by

:04:43. > :04:42.Beckford-Chambers. A lot more pressure on Joelisa Cooper's

:04:43. > :04:56.movement. I am not sure McCollin would have

:04:57. > :04:57.been any closer on the return pass than she was with the initial

:04:58. > :05:03.penalty. She feels a little than she was with the initial

:05:04. > :05:18.side, it doesn't show as she puts it Good defence by Swift but well

:05:19. > :05:29.played by Kadeen Corbin who steadies on the shot. For a 19-year-old,

:05:30. > :05:41.McCollin does command the attack for Trinidad and Tobago.

:05:42. > :05:48.Plenty of, worth games -- Commonwealth Games for her at 19

:05:49. > :05:51.years of age. A better, nation of passes. As we approach the final 60

:05:52. > :06:10.seconds, England lead 27-11. Guthrie rushed in. England get the

:06:11. > :06:18.throw in. Harten. Comes up short on the shot.

:06:19. > :06:27.England are up to 12 goals in this quarter.

:06:28. > :06:39.A better performance Certainly forward options which they

:06:40. > :06:56.were missing in the McCollin. Double jump by

:06:57. > :07:02.Beckford-Chambers. McCollin will have another chance to ride to

:07:03. > :07:09.Trinidad and Tobago's total. So, McCollin. She finishes the half with

:07:10. > :07:19.a goal. And that is half-time here at the NSPCC. England are in charge

:07:20. > :07:27.against Trinidad and Tobago. -- SECC.

:07:28. > :07:38.We are going to leave the netball now. This match is available on the

:07:39. > :07:51.Red Button. The men's hockey continues, both

:07:52. > :08:14.sides their group.

:08:15. > :08:24.Let us go straight over to hand in pork where they have been roaring

:08:25. > :08:41.for track and field -- had over to Hampden Park. What a treat we had

:08:42. > :08:45.last night. Let us look back to those 200m. In the women's race, the

:08:46. > :08:55.big story was blessing Blessing Okagbare. She was incredible. She

:08:56. > :09:03.looked fantastic in the semifinals. 10.93. It was a question, could she

:09:04. > :09:06.raise her game for the final. Against Veronica Campbell-Brown,

:09:07. > :09:12.multiple Olympic medallist. She was so good out of the blocks.

:09:13. > :09:26.Powerful and strong running. You thought Broad Oak might come back --

:09:27. > :09:33.Pharaonic. But Okagbare, you could see how much that meant to her.

:09:34. > :09:46.She was incredibly relaxed, given the history. You are right, thinking

:09:47. > :09:51.about her history. Do we learn from mistakes? This is crucial. She made

:09:52. > :09:56.a couple of mistakes at the World Championships and took herself at

:09:57. > :10:02.medals. Now she has honed all of her skills and delivered at the

:10:03. > :10:08.Commonwealth Games. In the men's 100m, it was a gold

:10:09. > :10:15.medal for Jamaica, as you expected. And a new name. And a silver for

:10:16. > :10:20.Adam Gemili. He ran his face perfectly well. Out of the blocks as

:10:21. > :10:28.strong and as positively as he could. He got into his running well.

:10:29. > :10:33.In contrast, I am laughing because the Jamaican didn't react. He was so

:10:34. > :10:34.confident he could run the whole field down

:10:35. > :10:38.the Jamaican didn't react. He was so confident he could run the which is

:10:39. > :10:43.what he did. He ambled it? Was he hurt, he looked like he was

:10:44. > :10:49.hobbling over the line? I think he went harder than he wanted to. To

:10:50. > :10:54.claw back the gap he lost initially. He is a beautiful banner, so very

:10:55. > :10:59.tall, about 1.95, almost as tall as you saying bolt -- a beautiful

:11:00. > :11:09.runner. And Adam?

:11:10. > :11:14.It is important to be in the mix. You have to raise your game,

:11:15. > :11:19.especially against the Jamaicans. They have come here in force. Adam

:11:20. > :11:24.knew what he needed to do. His first senior medal. He will be slightly

:11:25. > :11:31.disappointed with the time but a great performance. What about this

:11:32. > :11:37.morning? This is the timetable for a fantastic session of athletics, into

:11:38. > :11:41.the early afternoon. Greg Rutherford in the men's long

:11:42. > :11:46.jump qualifying, fingers crossed he is back to form and fitness.

:11:47. > :11:49.The women's heptathlon gets under way.

:11:50. > :11:55.The men's death cap launch continues, our first action on the

:11:56. > :12:06.track -- decathlon. Andy Turner in the hurdles.

:12:07. > :12:07.David Weir is in the T54 men's 1500m.

:12:08. > :12:23.David Rudisha next. Where do you start for a highlight?

:12:24. > :12:28.Probably the strongest morning session we have got today and later

:12:29. > :12:36.this evening. A great day of athletics. The crowd want to see

:12:37. > :12:39.more Scottish medals, Eilidh Child had to navigate this wonderful

:12:40. > :12:52.hurdles race. A lot to look forward to. Greg Rutherford, if he is injury

:12:53. > :12:57.free. And the quality event! Let us look back to yesterday evening and

:12:58. > :13:02.the 400m, the final event. A great day for Damian Warner who started

:13:03. > :13:04.off with an incredibly fast 100m, a personal best, and finished the day,

:13:05. > :13:17.the way he started. A good first day for Ashley Bryant

:13:18. > :13:21.of England and John Lane. At this point, after four events Damian

:13:22. > :13:28.Warner hanging on. John Lane coming through. Very quick that these

:13:29. > :13:34.athletes. These were the standings at the end.

:13:35. > :13:42.John Lane of England, a great first day. The question is can he hang on

:13:43. > :13:50.for a medal in this second day? We expect Ashley Bryant to come

:13:51. > :13:54.through. We have now to the commentary team

:13:55. > :13:58.standing by, Andrew Cotter, good morning.

:13:59. > :14:07.Good morning indeed and welcome to Hampden Park, a little bit cooler,

:14:08. > :14:12.and the men's death cap launch. Look out for Damian Warner. A second

:14:13. > :14:20.faster than the rest in this high hurdles. Ashley Bryant in contention

:14:21. > :14:27.for a medal. Kurt Felix who ran in the first heat did not get close to

:14:28. > :14:42.his personal best. So he will slip back in little bit.

:14:43. > :14:53.Cleanly away. David Warner. Ashley Bryant clashing a couple of hurdles.

:14:54. > :14:59.David Warner is a long way clear as we expected. What is the time?

:15:00. > :15:02.13.51. And we look further down the field for the English athletes.

:15:03. > :15:19.Inside his personal best. very clean across the hurdles

:15:20. > :15:20.there. Conversely, England's Ashley Bryant it's just about

:15:21. > :15:27.there. Conversely, England's Ashley He clattered every hurdle, the

:15:28. > :15:32.Englishman highly fancied. Oh, my word! That is the last thing you

:15:33. > :15:35.want, it hits your rhythm, it hurts your rhythm. On the other side of

:15:36. > :15:43.the track, John Lane is having a whale of a time, fantastic PB first

:15:44. > :15:48.day yesterday, three PBs, and a clean race from him to maybe take

:15:49. > :15:53.second, possibly third. At a Diamond League meeting here a couple of

:15:54. > :15:56.weeks ago, the hurdlers were talking about the warm up track having a

:15:57. > :16:01.different feel to the actual track, and they were struggling with the

:16:02. > :16:08.first hurdle. Ashley Bryant is not as confident as those men, trying to

:16:09. > :16:13.find an excuse for him. Damian Warner has been rounded down a

:16:14. > :16:19.couple of hundredths of a second. He flew in the 100m flat, 10.29, which

:16:20. > :16:22.was extraordinary. Ashley Bryant hitting the first hurdle, clipping

:16:23. > :16:27.the second, and from there your balance and rhythm is all over the

:16:28. > :16:32.place. He is in medal contention at the moment, lying fourth as we

:16:33. > :16:35.speak. He has a great javelin throw. John Lane, three personal bests

:16:36. > :16:40.yesterday, in the back of the picture there, trying to get close

:16:41. > :16:43.to his personal best. Not too far away, but that race was all about

:16:44. > :16:57.Warner, and he is heading for gold. Men's long jump qualification, and

:16:58. > :17:01.an anxious look on the face of England's Greg Rutherford, the

:17:02. > :17:10.Olympic champion, starting his bid to add macro the Commonwealth title

:17:11. > :17:13.to his list of achievements. 7.90 is automatic, anything beyond that, he

:17:14. > :17:20.can go home and come back tomorrow for the final. No-one has gone

:17:21. > :17:21.beyond that mark yet. Chris Tomlinson is just one centimetre

:17:22. > :17:33.shy, out in front. That is big, that is beyond eight

:17:34. > :17:40.metres! Does he get the white flags? It looks as though it is good, yes,

:17:41. > :17:45.he does. And breathe! I don't know why, I always feel a little anxious,

:17:46. > :17:49.he has had so much injury woes, qualification always a no bragging

:17:50. > :17:56.time. The pressure on him, all eyes on him as Olympic champion. --

:17:57. > :18:00.always a nerve wracking time. Eight metres, safe on the board.

:18:01. > :18:08.always a nerve wracking time. Eight very good jump, especially first

:18:09. > :18:10.round qualification, shoes off. And we are just waiting for confirmation

:18:11. > :18:16.of that, 8.05, we are just waiting for confirmation

:18:17. > :18:26.the Hampden Park crowd here for the Englishman, big smile. Big smile!

:18:27. > :18:32.There it is, 8.05, well done, Greg! Right, time to do some arithmetic.

:18:33. > :18:40.Damian Warner winning that one, pretty much according to form.

:18:41. > :18:50.13.52, 100th of a second inside his personal best, a Games best in the

:18:51. > :18:55.decathlon. So we convert it all to points, and after six events, Damian

:18:56. > :19:00.Warner is a long way clear, but John Lane helped by the fact that Kurt

:19:01. > :19:04.Felix did not do well in the first heat of the hurdles. Ashley Bryant

:19:05. > :19:09.has got a great javelin. The key thing is going to be the javelin. I

:19:10. > :19:13.was talking to the great man Daley Thompson, and he said, don't look at

:19:14. > :19:18.this event in terms of medals until after the pole vault, that is the

:19:19. > :19:23.big event. Ashley Bryant is a fantastic javelin thrower, John Lane

:19:24. > :19:26.not so much. The discus will come next, then the pole vault, then

:19:27. > :19:34.javelin, then 1500 metres to finish. The other names there.

:19:35. > :19:35.Martin Brockman down in 11th place. Some of those athletes have better

:19:36. > :19:52.events to come. Now then, Chris Tomlinson. He

:19:53. > :19:58.mentioned the first-round jump of 7.90 automatic qualification, and

:19:59. > :20:04.good battle between the Englishman, Greg and Chris. And that's jump just

:20:05. > :20:16.shy of the 7.90 automatic qualifying, but 7.89 is what that

:20:17. > :20:22.was. He won't look happy! He has his leg heavily strapped there. That is

:20:23. > :20:28.his take-off leg, and he will need to go into that final full of

:20:29. > :20:32.health, because he will need to jump beyond eight metres to be in the mix

:20:33. > :20:41.for medals. That will probably take him through to the final.

:20:42. > :20:47.Time for Australia's Henry Frayne to have a go trying to qualify, world

:20:48. > :20:54.indoor silver medallist in this event. The athletes choosing to

:20:55. > :21:00.leave their longs on, their tights. A little fresh this morning, also a

:21:01. > :21:05.bit of psychology in there, maybe wanting to show, I am not trying

:21:06. > :21:10.that had, I don't need to take the bottoms off. -- hard. Around

:21:11. > :21:17.automatic call for him, 8.10 already this season, he looks back on it in

:21:18. > :21:22.terms of 7.90. It is always a tough decision if you don't quite get it,

:21:23. > :21:26.the automatic qualification that is, because you might need to have

:21:27. > :21:36.another jump just to make sure. But it is top 12 if you don't get the

:21:37. > :21:44.automatic. 7.85 for Henry Frayne. Damar Forbes coming out of Jamaica.

:21:45. > :21:53.He looks controlled on the runway, does Forbes, very quick, one of the

:21:54. > :22:01.quickest of the long jumpers. Again, around that 8.0 metres mark. So it

:22:02. > :22:10.looks as though there will be a group of athletes in contention for

:22:11. > :22:20.that medal tomorrow evening, 8.0 metres plus. As we wait for his

:22:21. > :22:24.mark, he looks pleased. So we are likely to have a couple of

:22:25. > :22:34.Australians. South likely to have a couple of

:22:35. > :22:40.strong in this event as well, with Visser leading the way. Taking a

:22:41. > :22:49.while for the diseased and -- for the distances to come up. Bang on

:22:50. > :22:52.the automatic. A great feeling to hits automatic

:22:53. > :22:56.qualification with your first jump, pack your bags and go back to the

:22:57. > :23:00.village, great relief for Greg Rutherford. If you think back to

:23:01. > :23:06.Moscow, when he came in with fitness doubts, he did not qualify. No, and

:23:07. > :23:12.he was a troubled man last year, but he seems to have shrugged that off.

:23:13. > :23:15.Yes, he has had a few injury problems this year, but mentally he

:23:16. > :23:19.seems to be on the right place, he has changed his training group a

:23:20. > :23:23.couple of times, and it's just seems like a more complete man. And he's

:23:24. > :23:28.proving that is jumping is back to his very best. We will all very

:23:29. > :23:33.impressed with that first jump of his, 8.05, and technically sometimes

:23:34. > :23:37.he over rotates, but well in control of that. Yes, you know that

:23:38. > :23:41.qualification mornings can of that. Yes, you know that

:23:42. > :23:44.difficult, but he looked really good on the runway, and his preparation

:23:45. > :23:49.into that take-off, just really balanced, and that is what you want.

:23:50. > :23:53.He has got great flat speed, great jumping ability, and when he

:23:54. > :23:57.combines that well, without, as you said, that forward rotation that he

:23:58. > :24:02.sometimes does, that is the result, a consistent 8.0 metres plus

:24:03. > :24:10.jumper. The other slight bubble not of his own making was the 8.51

:24:11. > :24:16.British record, questions raised by Chris Tomlinson, was it legal? That

:24:17. > :24:22.can't be very comfortable for either of them, to have that type of battle

:24:23. > :24:27.in public. But I think what was impressive about Greg, he has said,

:24:28. > :24:31.I don't do the measuring, I just do the jumping. What the was old is is

:24:32. > :24:37.what the result is, it has been ratified, he is the British record

:24:38. > :24:40.holder. I want to say that this is very good for jumping, this track.

:24:41. > :24:45.If you go back to the Anniversary Games, a lot of good jumps took

:24:46. > :24:49.place on the track. I remember saying, Greg will be furious that he

:24:50. > :24:55.is not jumping on this particular surface. Yes, if you did not know,

:24:56. > :25:00.this track is on stilts, a bit like the gates that are at Manchester

:25:01. > :25:04.with a layer of concrete on top. I wonder if there is a slightly

:25:05. > :25:09.different dynamic from a track laid on the ground. Completely, and I

:25:10. > :25:13.have not been down, but it seems to be a surface that people are

:25:14. > :25:17.responding to. I remember Katarina Johnson-Thompson jumping extremely

:25:18. > :25:23.well, setting a new personal best, having to take a run-up back. So

:25:24. > :25:28.yes... It might be just a tiny bit of bounce. This is why the hurdlers

:25:29. > :25:33.are struggling, because it throws you, peaches you into the hurdle,

:25:34. > :25:39.and if the warm up track is very different to the competition track,

:25:40. > :25:43.they could run into trouble. Let's look back to Damian Warner over the

:25:44. > :25:49.hurdles in the decathlon. A real is printer, he marries a really good,

:25:50. > :25:53.stable technique, which the decathletes will find very difficult

:25:54. > :25:57.to master, because they have to try and muster ten events, they have to

:25:58. > :26:01.be good at all ten, so I think he's a natural runner and hurdler, and I

:26:02. > :26:06.think he enjoys those events, and that is why we see great

:26:07. > :26:13.performances from him. We talked about his PB in the 100m, same as

:26:14. > :26:23.yours, 10.29, how does that translate to a hurdle time? Is that

:26:24. > :26:26.a slow conversion? It could be better, no doubt, but he is not a

:26:27. > :26:28.specialist hurdler, and you have to take that into consideration. You

:26:29. > :26:33.can only spend a certain amount of time on his hurdling, so what we

:26:34. > :26:37.have just seen as more than adequate in the capital on. You mentioned

:26:38. > :26:40.Katarina Johnson-Thompson and long jump performance, women's heptathlon

:26:41. > :26:46.coming up this morning, and she is not here, such a disappointment. I

:26:47. > :26:52.am so gutted for though, she is in great shape, fantastic shape, but

:26:53. > :26:56.you know, this happens sometimes. It is just really bad timing, and what

:26:57. > :27:01.she will have to do going forward is look at why and how she managed to

:27:02. > :27:05.pick up this injury. She is a wonderful jumper, we talk about that

:27:06. > :27:10.speed and being able to convert at that speed that she generates on the

:27:11. > :27:15.runway. Do you think are focused on the high jump and the long jump has

:27:16. > :27:20.put extra strain on her? Personally, that is my opinion. It is not easy.

:27:21. > :27:24.I fell into that category as well, maybe jumping too much, because you

:27:25. > :27:29.are doing the jumping in training, and she has done a lot of long jump

:27:30. > :27:32.and high jump competitions, together with the heptathlon. It puts a

:27:33. > :27:36.strain on the joints. So she is going to have to go away and think,

:27:37. > :27:41.maybe at the trials could I have done javelin instead or short,

:27:42. > :27:46.working on the events I am not so good at? I don't know. And other

:27:47. > :27:51.English athlete not here is organ like, who was doing the world Junior

:27:52. > :27:57.Championships in America, what a performance she provided. -- Morgan

:27:58. > :28:03.Lake. Stunning, Denise must be very proud that the heptathlete are doing

:28:04. > :28:08.so well! We are talking globally, and talking about what we will do in

:28:09. > :28:12.Rio, we mentioned that Jess may find it difficult to return instantly,

:28:13. > :28:18.but what a catalogue of great heptathlete we have got. Talking

:28:19. > :28:24.about Damian Warner there, generally great flat speed, and speed is the

:28:25. > :28:31.key to a great have to learn and decathlon, and Morgan Lake, her

:28:32. > :28:36.speed is not quite there, but she has got wonderful jumping ability.

:28:37. > :28:46.Look at her form, languid, lovely, rangy jumper, and she is as good as,

:28:47. > :28:54.you know, Carillion Kluft at this stage. -- Carolina. British junior

:28:55. > :29:00.record. Just fantastic. Lot of good heptathlete here, trust me! Steve

:29:01. > :29:05.Cram has been looking at the 110 metres hurdles in the heptathlon.

:29:06. > :29:09.Talking about the strength in depth, a view of the bronze medallists from

:29:10. > :29:15.eight years ago, Grace Clements of England. Three English women taking

:29:16. > :29:17.England. Three part, a late replacement for Katarina

:29:18. > :29:25.Johnson-Thompson was just happen, and Jessica Taylor will be going as

:29:26. > :29:26.well. The outstanding favourite is Briannae Theisen Eaton. Grace

:29:27. > :29:36.Clements will be hoping that Briannae Theisen Eaton. Grace

:29:37. > :29:43.Delhi. A huge welcome as all of the home country athletes have received

:29:44. > :29:52.during these Games. An interesting conversation about Morgan Lake and

:29:53. > :29:57.KJT, I think it was the right decision of those around her to

:29:58. > :30:06.centred to the World Juniors, rewarded with two fabulous titles.

:30:07. > :30:09.So two heats of this, seeded according to hurdling ability in

:30:10. > :30:41.terms of times obviously, so this is how the first one lines up.

:30:42. > :30:47.Australia. Not such a good start but the Australian is starting to go

:30:48. > :30:52.away. Pulling away. A good performance by Stanwell. That is

:30:53. > :30:57.just outside her personal best. Into a slight headwind. It is chilly this

:30:58. > :31:02.morning, as Andrew said. A swirling breeze. It had been with the men

:31:03. > :31:08.earlier in the decathlon on. It just took the edge of the times. Grace

:31:09. > :31:14.Clements, a good performance from her in second place.

:31:15. > :31:18.For Grace Clements, having Sophie Stanwell of Australia next to almost

:31:19. > :31:25.helped her in her pick-up to the first hurdle. Matching her stride

:31:26. > :31:30.for stride out of the blocks. Watch this, the Australian to her left,

:31:31. > :31:35.matching her and almost tries to go with her. She knows she is slightly

:31:36. > :31:43.quicker on paper. Grace Clements with a season's best. Very close to

:31:44. > :31:49.that. A clean run. A quicker time than she might have done, with the

:31:50. > :31:55.help of an Aussie. It is going to be interesting. When

:31:56. > :32:06.you look at Theisen-Eaton. There are one or two who are quite good.

:32:07. > :32:16.Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is also here. -- Theisen-Eaton.

:32:17. > :32:24.Stanwell winning. 14.18. Grace Clements, a very good start for her.

:32:25. > :32:42.As Steve was saying, her seasons best -- season's best.

:32:43. > :33:03.In the men's decathlon, Damian Warner is the standout.

:33:04. > :33:15.In the women's heptathlon, we have quality athletes. That head too hide

:33:16. > :33:20.we have looked for was a mouthwatering prospect. In May when

:33:21. > :33:27.they competed in the combined event, they were pushing each other

:33:28. > :33:31.all the way. It is not going to be easy for Brianne. When you are on

:33:32. > :33:35.your own, you have to stay focused. You might not be pushed. She will

:33:36. > :33:41.have to raise her game to make sure she stays in that moment, when she

:33:42. > :33:46.is waiting around for hours. Brianne, in Moscow, getting a silver

:33:47. > :33:52.medal. There is no question of pressure, you would think, getting

:33:53. > :33:55.to her. She is used to being in a major Championship situation.

:33:56. > :34:01.She may look at the conditions and think, I am going to go for it. I

:34:02. > :34:05.can take a little risk in some events and extend my performance. I

:34:06. > :34:10.am hoping the conditions change to give them a fair chance. A strong

:34:11. > :34:17.headwind, I am sure she would like to give herself a good total

:34:18. > :34:29.overall. What is the Championship record? Was it you?

:34:30. > :34:38.There will be one very interested spectator today. The world record

:34:39. > :34:43.holder, her husband, Ashton. He will be supporting his wife, as he does

:34:44. > :34:48.all the time. Giving words of encouragement. They do train

:34:49. > :34:56.together. They have a great coach. He gives them both what they need.

:34:57. > :34:58.Sometimes, that dynamic is not easy. She is really strong, a great

:34:59. > :35:09.sprinter as well. Ashley has been doing some 400m

:35:10. > :35:13.hurdles as well. He is enjoying his ear off.

:35:14. > :35:22.Andrew, it is all yours. Welcome to this heat of the 100

:35:23. > :35:27.metres hurdles. We just saw Jessica Tappin. Jessica

:35:28. > :35:32.Zelinka is an individual Olympics finalist in this event. She will be

:35:33. > :35:38.favourite for the silver medal in the overall heptathlon behind

:35:39. > :35:43.Brianne. But a lot of things can happen. There is a chance for other

:35:44. > :36:00.athletes. Al CD goes in lane four.

:36:01. > :36:07.Slack of Jamaica. -- Alcide. And the favourite, looking for a good start.

:36:08. > :36:11.13 seconds flat she has managed in the 100 metres hurdles before. A

:36:12. > :36:16.good event for her. She is good pretty much all the way through the

:36:17. > :36:26.event. Jessica Zelinka, her Canadian team-mate. What can Jessica Tappin

:36:27. > :36:33.and Jessica Taylor do? There are certainly medals up for

:36:34. > :36:43.grabs for someone else in this field. Tappin and Taylor have a very

:36:44. > :36:50.good shout. Jessica Tappin is the stronger

:36:51. > :36:59.hurdler in the race. Away they go. Already, Jessica

:37:00. > :37:06.Zelinka is moving away comfortably. Brianne with a decent run. Tappin in

:37:07. > :37:12.third place. A little bit of a breeze behind. A

:37:13. > :37:19.Games best in this event for Jessica Zelinka of Canada. It may be her

:37:20. > :37:22.illustrious team-mate who takes the title.

:37:23. > :37:29.The two in dish athlete title.

:37:30. > :37:33.behind, Jessica Tappin ran pretty well -- English athletes.

:37:34. > :37:38.A good start for Jessica Zelinka, as we expected.

:37:39. > :37:45.You can tell she is a well honed hurdler and she runs away from this

:37:46. > :37:54.field, as she is expected to in this heptathlon. Both Canadians are

:37:55. > :37:55.likely on paper at least to be the main contenders. But there is a

:37:56. > :38:15.bronze medal up for grabs. This makes for a great two days of

:38:16. > :38:24.activity. Brianne Theisen-Eaton is an outright favourite.

:38:25. > :38:28.Let us concentrate on the two English athletes. Jessica Tappin

:38:29. > :38:33.does have a very decent personal best in the hurdles. She has got

:38:34. > :38:40.reasonably close to it. Jessica Taylor on the inside, she has won a

:38:41. > :38:45.personal best here. That is what we are looking for, to beat your

:38:46. > :38:53.personal best. The hurdling technique of Jessica Zelinka is

:38:54. > :39:02.flawless. It adds up to a comfortable victory.

:39:03. > :39:07.A Games best. The overall favourite is in second place. And a personal

:39:08. > :39:26.best for Jessica Taylor. JJ Jegede Matt -- is looking for an

:39:27. > :39:37.automatic qualification. Come on! 7.90 is

:39:38. > :39:45.A controlled effort from JJ. Straining through the air, however.

:39:46. > :39:51.He was very good on the board. Straining through the air, however.

:39:52. > :39:56.always a challenge when things go right, which it looked, if it is not

:39:57. > :39:59.quite enough, what do you do about it? That may not be enough. That is

:40:00. > :40:14.eighth place. Greg Rutherford, enjoying himself. A

:40:15. > :40:16.few photos, why not? He has until tomorrow evening to muster

:40:17. > :40:18.few photos, why not? He has until spring. Which he is no doubt mindful

:40:19. > :40:24.of. Olympic champion from two years spring. Which he is no doubt mindful

:40:25. > :40:28.ago. It is the best feeling ever, you qualify first round, gave

:40:29. > :40:36.everyone struggling, do you have a rest. And the official. The bad

:40:37. > :40:41.guy, just doing his job! That is enough.

:40:42. > :40:50.I know he will have half an eye on the rest of the contenders for this

:40:51. > :40:59.long jump. This is certainly one of them. Samaai, one of

:41:00. > :41:08.long jump. This is certainly one of Africans here. He gets the white

:41:09. > :41:17.flag. He is behind the plasticine. Samaai, looking to join Rutherford

:41:18. > :41:28.with automatic qualification. It looks around the mark of Rutherford.

:41:29. > :41:39.Samaai, out towards what is his lifetime best. The 22-year old looks

:41:40. > :41:48.pleased. Yes. Automatic qualifying also will stop good stuff.

:41:49. > :41:56.-- qualifying also. The Greg Rutherford still

:41:57. > :42:04.infuriating the official! I wonder if there is dope testing, there is

:42:05. > :42:19.no him to be brushed off. -- no need for him to be rushed off.

:42:20. > :42:24.Brianne Theisen-Eaton recovered very well after that first total. Which

:42:25. > :42:30.is why keeping focused is so important. A lot of adrenaline.

:42:31. > :42:37.She came out and clattered that first hurdle. I would only assume

:42:38. > :42:41.she is carrying so much speed she was on top of that hurdle too

:42:42. > :42:47.quickly. She recovered nicely, concentrated, and came away with a

:42:48. > :42:54.good hurdles time. You mentioned the hurdlers were

:42:55. > :42:59.struggling because of the wind. It looked like she was too close to

:43:00. > :43:06.the first hurdle. When you hit it with your lead leg, it means you are

:43:07. > :43:13.too close to the barrier. The other thing for Brianne, she had

:43:14. > :43:18.Jessica Zelinka streaking away and she had to maintain her composure.

:43:19. > :43:24.She knows Ellington is a quality hurdler, she has been around a long

:43:25. > :43:36.time and made finals -- she knows Jessica Zelinka.

:43:37. > :43:44.How do you get that out of your mind for the next event. The frustration,

:43:45. > :43:51.that mistake. That is the challenge with the heptathlon, you had to

:43:52. > :43:54.eradicate that. You focused next on becoming the high jumper. The

:43:55. > :44:01.proximity between the hurdles and the high jump, it is quite short

:44:02. > :44:07.between events. You have to lose that baggage early. Whether it is a

:44:08. > :44:09.good one or -1. On the track, the 110 metres hurdles

:44:10. > :44:21.heats. Thank you very much. I wanted to

:44:22. > :44:25.bring you an update on the men's hockey taking place this morning.

:44:26. > :44:26.England have been playing New Zealand. That match has ended with

:44:27. > :44:38.England losing, the score was 2-1. That was the winning goal, scoring

:44:39. > :44:46.from a penalty corner. The moment that took the school to 2-1. It

:44:47. > :44:51.means England may end up facing Australia in a potential semifinal.

:44:52. > :44:55.This is what is on BBC Three at the moment, the morning session at the

:44:56. > :44:59.swimming, Helen Skelton is looking after all of that.

:45:00. > :45:03.That is all available on the Red Button.

:45:04. > :45:05.Netball is continuing now, England still going strong against and dad

:45:06. > :45:21.and Tobago. There is even more on the Sport

:45:22. > :45:25.website, a choice of other live options including badminton, lawn

:45:26. > :45:33.bowls and table tennis. You can take your pick. Back, though, to Hampden

:45:34. > :45:37.Park, a very busy day of athletics under way.

:45:38. > :45:42.Thanks, Mishal, next up on track is the men's 110 metres hurdles, the

:45:43. > :45:49.first heat featuring the defending Commonwealth champion, Andy Turner.

:45:50. > :45:54.I don't think I'm ever going to have a year quite as bad as last year,

:45:55. > :45:58.straight after the Olympics I had surgery, I have to have more

:45:59. > :46:06.surgery, and that is not going to plan. My mum passed away of a

:46:07. > :46:09.stroke, very unexpected, she was my biggest fan, she used to come to the

:46:10. > :46:18.track all the time, watch all the races, so devastating, but during

:46:19. > :46:23.the funeral some little... I can't say the word I wanted to say, but

:46:24. > :46:29.burgled the house and stole everything. A lot of times I have

:46:30. > :46:38.just thought, well, I don't want to do this any more. What have I got

:46:39. > :46:42.left? My motivation just went. But just thinking back, my mum would

:46:43. > :46:46.never have wanted me to stop, she would have wanted me to try and make

:46:47. > :46:51.the World Championships, and I have been fortunate enough to get some

:46:52. > :46:55.shape and qualify for these and get picked for the European

:46:56. > :47:00.Championships as well, so she is watching over me. Andy Turner is

:47:01. > :47:08.going to become the champion. I excited? Do I feel extra pressure?

:47:09. > :47:17.The hurdles has moved on, the standard is very high a guy has run

:47:18. > :47:23.some 13, he is going to be there. I have not ran that this year, so I

:47:24. > :47:31.have got a lot of work to do, and it is an event that on the day, a bit

:47:32. > :47:36.of adrenaline, ten clear barriers, a personal best, my training has got

:47:37. > :47:45.better, I am happy to go and use my experience and try to pull it at the

:47:46. > :47:52.bag! My career kind of depends on how this goes. I am thankful to get

:47:53. > :47:56.the opportunity to run for Great Britain, for England. Thinking about

:47:57. > :48:02.it, it is getting my heart beating, and I can't wait to get out in front

:48:03. > :48:11.of the crowd. : Has disappeared to the commentary box, it is good

:48:12. > :48:16.morning to Paula. -- Colin. For all sorts of reasons, Andy Turner, he

:48:17. > :48:21.has had a really tough time. He has had a really tough time, he has had

:48:22. > :48:28.to stay buried focused and handle a lot of emotional turmoil which can

:48:29. > :48:33.really make it tough when you are trying to compete every day, so he

:48:34. > :48:38.has done really well to get here, and I'm sure that turmoil will give

:48:39. > :48:54.him extra motivation to make this count here. , bronze medallist in

:48:55. > :48:58.Daegu, he keeps getting knocked down, and getting up again. -- 2011.

:48:59. > :49:01.There is only so much an down, and getting up again. -- 2011.

:49:02. > :49:06.take emotionally and physically, and with Andy, how much of a period of

:49:07. > :49:10.time can he be healthy to get some training in?

:49:11. > :49:13.time can he be healthy to get some time injured, and that is very

:49:14. > :49:18.draining. I have been there myself, and to get here, it is such an

:49:19. > :49:23.incredible testament of his drive, his ambition, and the support that

:49:24. > :49:29.he gets from friends and family to keep going. You end up in a very

:49:30. > :49:31.difficult position where you have got to run to earn money, but you

:49:32. > :49:35.shouldn't really be running got to run to earn money, but you

:49:36. > :49:40.you are not quite fit. Exactly, and at that point it comes down to how

:49:41. > :49:44.much you love what you are doing and how much you want to keep fighting

:49:45. > :49:48.against all those knocks, investing yourself in it. Like you say,

:49:49. > :49:52.putting yourself on the line when you are not quite ready, because you

:49:53. > :49:56.have to fund your next block of training. That is in about five

:49:57. > :50:02.minutes' time, Andy cannot take anything for granted, but in the

:50:03. > :50:08.meantime we will head out to Steve Backley. And we rejoined the long

:50:09. > :50:17.jump, where Greg Rutherford's party still goes on, celebrating

:50:18. > :50:24.qualification. He has left the competition. That official must be

:50:25. > :50:32.losing the will to live. It is a good ten minutes! Is best event of

:50:33. > :50:35.the Games! -- his. He has earned the right to entertain the crowd, you

:50:36. > :50:43.would have to say, and it is great to see him

:50:44. > :50:52.He is going to sell him a dummy any minutes! He gave him the slip! He is

:50:53. > :50:56.going to get a medal for this. He minutes! He gave him the slip! He is

:50:57. > :51:02.would have done well in the sevens with that kind of move!

:51:03. > :51:09.Meanwhile, back at the event proper, the one that Greg has just earned

:51:10. > :51:16.the right to walk away from, this is Australia's Fabrice Lapierre, with

:51:17. > :51:19.his third attempt. A man who we might have expected to easily

:51:20. > :51:31.qualify, he has not yet, but he may have now. It looks as though he has

:51:32. > :51:39.saved his best until last. 8.40 at his very best. That was four years

:51:40. > :51:44.ago, however. 7.87 is his best from this year, but he may have just

:51:45. > :51:50.bettered that, I would suggest. 7.90 is the automatic qualifying. Five

:51:51. > :51:59.men have gone clear already, including England's Greg Rutherford.

:52:00. > :52:05.7.95, a season's best for Fabrice Lapierre.

:52:06. > :52:13.We still live with these wonderful pictures! Look at his face the

:52:14. > :52:21.Meanwhile, again, back to the up, just give up!

:52:22. > :52:28.Meanwhile, again, back to the events, this is all happening as we

:52:29. > :52:40.watch it, JJ Jegede looking trio join the finalists. -- to. He is not

:52:41. > :52:48.quite there just yet. That looks to be a similar mark, the third

:52:49. > :52:58.Englishman. Chris Tomlinson, 7.89, looks like it will qualify. But JJ

:52:59. > :53:02.Jegede, the 2014 UK champion, may be on his way home. We wait to see.

:53:03. > :53:08.This is going to be right down to the wire. Just didn't finish that

:53:09. > :53:16.drive off the board, cut it short. That is a sign of John one just

:53:17. > :53:20.forcing it, no improvement, 7.58. -- that is a sign of someone just

:53:21. > :53:24.forcing it. He might just sneak into the final, 12 to qualify.

:53:25. > :53:31.You have to feel sorry for that official! He has completely given

:53:32. > :53:35.up, hasn't it? Exasperated, I think, is the word to use for him. I think

:53:36. > :53:40.he has had the right attitude to that. That is down, as Greg finally

:53:41. > :53:46.makes his way towards leaving the arena, at the far end. Racing

:53:47. > :53:54.towards an very shortly will be the men in the first heat of the 110

:53:55. > :53:59.metres hurdles. The first two and two fastest losers will be through

:54:00. > :54:01.to the final, so quite brutal. For Andy Turner and the others here, no

:54:02. > :54:26.room for error, this is tough. Well, that is the look of a man who

:54:27. > :54:30.looks determined, doesn't he? He is going to have to produce something

:54:31. > :54:37.pretty special to get into the top two, because without an extra round

:54:38. > :54:44.in here, this is going to be tough. Sharman goes in the third heat.

:54:45. > :54:49.Lawrence Clarke is in the second one.

:54:50. > :54:57.So the conditions are improving, I have to say. There is sunshine and a

:54:58. > :55:00.little bit of blue sky above. It is not that warm, to be honest. Colin

:55:01. > :55:06.Jackson has turned up in what looks like winter clothing, I have to say!

:55:07. > :55:12.Shane Brathwaite is having a great season for Barbados in lane two.

:55:13. > :55:18.Watch out for lane three as well. Brathwaite gets a good start, Thomas

:55:19. > :55:22.just hitting the first hurdle. He has faltered again and again. Andrew

:55:23. > :55:28.Riley coming through, Turner has gone. Andrew Riley is going to take

:55:29. > :55:31.this one. That was expected, but for Andy Turner, sitting on the track,

:55:32. > :55:38.the defending champion, not the way to go out. Despair! It has been a

:55:39. > :55:41.difficult, up and down year once more for Andy Turner, and this is

:55:42. > :55:49.not the way you want to see any champion go out. Always a

:55:50. > :55:54.possibility, Colin, the pressure, apart from injuries and all that

:55:55. > :55:59.sort of thing, do you know? 13.47, the winning time, Riley has been

:56:00. > :56:03.having a cracking year, that was a mountain for Andy Turner to climb.

:56:04. > :56:08.It is very tough, he would have looked at the lane draws and just

:56:09. > :56:12.pondered over his circumstances and the situation and wished he was at

:56:13. > :56:15.his real best, but he smashed into that first hurdle, drove into the

:56:16. > :56:22.second, couldn't recover and that was his race over very quickly. The

:56:23. > :56:26.high hurdles is an unforgiving evident. One mistake and it can

:56:27. > :56:31.seriously cost you. Out in front, Steve, Riley from Jamaica, as you

:56:32. > :56:35.said, has had quite a nice season, building up very well indeed, and he

:56:36. > :56:40.will be pleased he has made it through. He works hard, reacts well,

:56:41. > :56:45.drives into the first hurdle, but he gets close to the barrier. He

:56:46. > :56:49.catches it with his trailing leg, causing him to rotate. He had no

:56:50. > :56:54.chance to recover. Too close to this one, he pushes it down. You can

:56:55. > :57:00.imagine the huge frustration that he is suffering, the defending

:57:01. > :57:04.champion, a tough old dear. A good point you were making in discussion

:57:05. > :57:09.in the studio - what the athletes are saying it is that the warm up

:57:10. > :57:12.track is very hard, it is different in the arena, but that was not the

:57:13. > :57:18.start of the entity was competition he would have wanted, and he has

:57:19. > :57:22.made it down to join Phil Jones. Thanks a lot, Steve, Andy,

:57:23. > :57:27.commiserations. It is going to be difficult for me to even has to a

:57:28. > :57:38.question, maybe you can describe it from your perspective. I got too

:57:39. > :57:43.close to the first hurdle, hits it. And then the second one, and then

:57:44. > :57:49.you are done for. Make a mistake at the first hurdle, to come back is

:57:50. > :57:54.very difficult. Schoolboy error, absolute idiot. You have had a

:57:55. > :58:00.troubled build-up, to say the least, how were you at the start? What was

:58:01. > :58:06.your mindset like? No, it felt really good, training had gone well

:58:07. > :58:11.all week. I felt like I was ready to run fast, I've ran well at the

:58:12. > :58:15.Anniversary Games last week, so I am really disappointed not to put on a

:58:16. > :58:21.better show, a cause that is just shocking. I know Andrew Cotter

:58:22. > :58:26.talked in commentary about something said during the Diamond League

:58:27. > :58:29.meeting about the warm up track, how springy it is, putting you off

:58:30. > :58:36.kilter when it comes to the track here, did you experience anything

:58:37. > :58:39.like that? A track is a track to me. If you run on a track like a

:58:40. > :58:43.springboard, there is not going to be a spring yet one than that, I

:58:44. > :58:48.cannot use that as an excuse. There is no excuse. I didn't execute what

:58:49. > :58:52.I should have done. You know, I am not that guy who was going to go, my

:58:53. > :58:56.shoelace came undone or a dog came on the track or something stupid. I

:58:57. > :59:04.did not do what I was supposed to do. We appreciate your time and your

:59:05. > :59:08.honesty. Cheers. He was very honest, but a little bit

:59:09. > :59:12.harsh on himself, because he mentioned it being a schoolboy

:59:13. > :59:14.error, but sometimes, with the emotion and the adrenaline flowing,

:59:15. > :59:21.remember, he is the defending champion, he was going to work hard

:59:22. > :59:22.into that first hurdle, and unfortunately if he had nailed

:59:23. > :59:28.into that first hurdle, and he would have been up the front, but

:59:29. > :59:33.you take the risk in high hurdles, and it did not pay off for Andy

:59:34. > :59:41.today. Let's that is not the end of him, though. -- let's hope. You can

:59:42. > :59:54.see his reaction, very sad for him, and frustrating. And the wind is

:59:55. > :00:00.blowing harder to the west, which is kind of behind them down the home

:00:01. > :00:04.straight. So it is another easy hurdling, sometimes you get blown

:00:05. > :00:10.down faster to the first hurdle than you would like. As we get ready for

:00:11. > :00:14.is second of these three heats. Straight through to the final. So it

:00:15. > :00:25.is fairly brutal. You have to be on your game to go through. Lawrence

:00:26. > :00:35.Clarke goes here. Such a surprise performance he had at the Olympics.

:00:36. > :00:40.I'm looking to lane 2 where Parchement is supposed to be. I

:00:41. > :00:49.can't see him at the moment. It says he is lining up, but he does not

:00:50. > :00:54.start. He was struggling with a ham string problem. And busby doesn't

:00:55. > :01:00.start. So things become a bit easier in this heat. There is Lawrence

:01:01. > :01:09.Clarke. Finished fourth at the Olympics in London. Nicholas Hough

:01:10. > :01:21.from Australia. He is the Olympic youth champion. Another Nigeria

:01:22. > :01:30.combran who is an American convert. He is a former US college yacht

:01:31. > :01:47.champion in lane 5. And Swift from Barbados. And an empty lane 7 where

:01:48. > :01:57.busby was supposed to be and an empty lane where Parchement was

:01:58. > :02:03.supposed to be. Two to go through only automatically, plus the two

:02:04. > :02:25.fastest losers over the three heats. The final tonight.

:02:26. > :02:32.Swift takes it from Clarke. They go through automatically, the time

:02:33. > :02:42.13.58. A through automatically, the time

:02:43. > :02:47.came through at the end. Clarke will be in the Commonwealth Games final.

:02:48. > :02:53.Very pleased for Lawrence. If you remember in 2012, he was in the

:02:54. > :02:59.Olympic final. So domestic running for Clarke is good. In contrast with

:03:00. > :03:05.Andy Turner, he had a very good first hurdle, which set him up well

:03:06. > :03:08.and he could execute his race perfectly. Some good competition

:03:09. > :03:14.from Swift. That is what you want. Just pushing you all the way. Gets

:03:15. > :03:18.out the blocks, reacts well, drives into that first hurdle and pulls his

:03:19. > :03:23.trail leg through. If you can do that and keep it in the straight

:03:24. > :03:27.line, it means you can push yourself directly forward. The impetus you

:03:28. > :03:33.want and you can get your leg speed going makes it easier. The key for

:03:34. > :03:37.all the hurdlers is to keep that leg speed going over the barriers that

:03:38. > :03:43.will make your time much quicker. Well done Lawrence Clarke. He will

:03:44. > :03:53.be pleased. A good run and a good result. That shows the times.

:03:54. > :04:13.Lawrence Clarke safely through to the final. Anti-Turner crashed out

:04:14. > :04:22.out in the first heat. Sometimes you're almost intruding on a private

:04:23. > :04:26.grief. You almost come through in a daze, in a dream and you don't want

:04:27. > :04:31.to have to come through. But you have to. All credit to him. He was

:04:32. > :04:35.honest about what happened. But all he wants to do probably is just get

:04:36. > :04:40.away. Get rid of the emotion of that and try and gather himself and

:04:41. > :04:44.refocus in some way to come back from that. Because it is gutting. It

:04:45. > :04:52.will have knocked the stuffing out of him. It was different in terms of

:04:53. > :04:57.the issue with some of the hurdlers hitting that first hurdle too early.

:04:58. > :05:03.Yes, he caught it with his trail leg foot. It is almost like the hurdle

:05:04. > :05:06.grabs you and takes you out of your stride. It was difficult for him to

:05:07. > :05:12.recover. He crashed through the second and you can see the pain on

:05:13. > :05:17.his face. It is just adding insult to injury. It is such a shame for

:05:18. > :05:21.him. But he will go to the European Championships hopefully. He doesn't

:05:22. > :05:28.seem to be hurt. So hopefully his season will continue. Will Sharman

:05:29. > :05:34.is in the next heat and for him it has been a different sb and --

:05:35. > :05:39.season and something back too his best. Yes he is growing in

:05:40. > :05:45.confidence. That is translating to his performances on the track. So we

:05:46. > :05:49.want to see a nice, smooth passage through these heats, which will help

:05:50. > :05:54.him build on the mope tum he has build up from this great win and how

:05:55. > :06:00.well he ran in Glasgow and then at the anniversary games. This year he

:06:01. > :06:05.has beaten good fields by a long way, but he has not got the time we

:06:06. > :06:11.think he is capable of. But that will come. You can't search for

:06:12. > :06:19.these things. You can see from his flat speed that he is almost there.

:06:20. > :06:23.If he stays relaxed and has a clean hurdles race, that - those times

:06:24. > :06:32.will come. Colin will be watching this, but first over to Steve.

:06:33. > :06:40.COMMENTATOR: Will Sharman would have looked at Brathwaite, a former world

:06:41. > :06:50.champion, and also the name of Wayne Davies, who is ranked No 3 in the

:06:51. > :06:57.Commonwealth, Parchement was not a starter and this opens the way up.

:06:58. > :07:01.Only Riley has run quicker than Sharman of those left and with the

:07:02. > :07:07.form he is in, he must be thinking, he would have been hopeful any way.

:07:08. > :07:15.It will make a huge difference to his mind set and he can think about

:07:16. > :07:21.being positive. Of all the titles available to domestic athletes, the

:07:22. > :07:26.Commonwealth Games and the European Championships, for Will this is the

:07:27. > :07:36.one he can win. The Europeans will be a different level with our

:07:37. > :07:42.Frenchman doing so well. Ryan Brathwaite, who is no relation to

:07:43. > :07:53.Shane Brathwaite, who we saw in the first heat. A former world champion.

:07:54. > :07:58.Will Sharman. Always seeps to produce his best when it matters.

:07:59. > :08:04.That win here in the Diamond League event a couple of weeks ago seems

:08:05. > :08:10.ages ago now, but that must stand him in such good stead. Same Baines

:08:11. > :08:37.of Australia, a former Commonwealth youth champion in 2008. Ogieriakhi

:08:38. > :08:41.from Nigeria is next to him. And Thingalaya from India. His friends

:08:42. > :08:50.call him Sid and I think he is a friend of mine as well! 13.84 his

:08:51. > :09:02.best this year. He is Keetched by Sally Pearson's coach. -- coached by

:09:03. > :09:09.. The top two into the final tonight

:09:10. > :09:57.at quarter to 9. 13. 48 the winning time. That was

:09:58. > :10:01.better from Brathwaite than we have seen this season. Will Sharman is

:10:02. > :10:10.through. You worry when the guy next to you is hitting hurdles and so

:10:11. > :10:18.close to each other. Yes I was anxious. You can see if there was

:10:19. > :10:22.any clashes of arms. But what was good is both are battling into a

:10:23. > :10:31.strong head wind. You take that winning time of 13. 48f they had

:10:32. > :10:35.that as a tail wind, they would be close to 13.1. So they come out of

:10:36. > :10:40.the blocks hard. Let's see if there are any clashes. That seems to be

:10:41. > :10:48.OK. They work hard into the barriers. It is the arms that will

:10:49. > :10:53.cause the problems. They will flay and maybe touch each other. When

:10:54. > :10:57.you're hurdling, you're not used to people being around. I think there

:10:58. > :11:02.was a touch there and you can see that they're keeping each other

:11:03. > :11:08.close and there is another clash and they both ebds up -- end up hitting

:11:09. > :11:17.the hurdle. But nice and strong and it was all about qualification. We

:11:18. > :11:21.have been watching that. Some bumping and elbow clashing, but

:11:22. > :11:26.safely through? Yes through to the business end of the competition now.

:11:27. > :11:33.That is what it is about. So looking foyer ward to tonight. What is like

:11:34. > :11:39.in a race like that where you're trying to put a marker down to your

:11:40. > :11:43.rivals? Well, if you don't take each run seriously, the next one is not

:11:44. > :11:49.guaranteed. I took it seriously. I came out and I wanted to win. Then

:11:50. > :11:50.guaranteed. I took it seriously. I started hooking arms with

:11:51. > :11:55.Brathwaite. As I was trying to go past him, I was getting caught

:11:56. > :12:01.behind his arm. I thought it is not worth risking a fall in the heat we

:12:02. > :12:07.are clearly ahead and I tucked in where I was and ticked over to the

:12:08. > :12:15.finish. But I'm in the final. So it's got to be guns blazing f

:12:16. > :12:18.somebody fires, you fire a bazooka back. England were

:12:19. > :12:24.somebody fires, you fire a bazooka to do well. How does it affect your

:12:25. > :12:30.mind when your rivals have gone? You have got to handle business. I have

:12:31. > :12:35.got a job to do. I like to compete against the best. It is a shame

:12:36. > :12:43.they're not here and I wish them the best. Well done. We will see you in

:12:44. > :12:49.the final. That final tonight at quarter to 9. Brathwaite just

:12:50. > :12:55.getting the nod ahead of Sharman. He will hope they aren't drawn with

:12:56. > :12:58.each other. An interesting qualification. Partly because of the

:12:59. > :13:07.people who didn't line up and then these are the men who will contest

:13:08. > :13:14.the final. Al-Ameen competing four Nigeria -- for Nigeria and making it

:13:15. > :13:18.through. It is all very tight there. Conditions tonight may be a factor.

:13:19. > :13:33.It will be chilly and the wind could be in their face again. Day two of

:13:34. > :13:45.the decathlon continues. This is the event Damian Warner is leading by

:13:46. > :13:51.some 300 points and looking to make his mark in the event. It looks as

:13:52. > :13:56.though he is romping away after being quick out of the blocks

:13:57. > :14:00.yesterday. Takes no risks. Nowhere near the front of the circle. A man

:14:01. > :14:07.who knows he is on a way to only one thing and that is Commonwealth gold.

:14:08. > :14:18.Just the pole vault, the javelin and the 15 hundred metres. -- 1,500

:14:19. > :14:24.metres. John Lane is having a great couple of days. This is not one of

:14:25. > :14:32.his strongest vents. But he knows medals are on offer and he is in

:14:33. > :14:36.contention. A relative newcomer to the event. He has a lifetime best of

:14:37. > :14:42.42 metres. It didn't seem to the event. He has a lifetime best of

:14:43. > :14:47.out of his hand cleanly. A good strike at the front of the circle.

:14:48. > :14:58.Quick through the throw and just chased it out and got a little off

:14:59. > :15:08.balance maybe. 38.96. It is a slight improvement. But this man, this is

:15:09. > :15:33.the man Felix from Grenada, who may just spoil the English party.

:15:34. > :15:38.That is very significant. It is about accumulating

:15:39. > :15:47.That is very significant. It is two days. That is a huge personal

:15:48. > :15:55.best. Great stuff! Well, the hurdles final is set up or

:15:56. > :15:57.this evening. It is wide open. Andy will be even more gutted, if that is

:15:58. > :16:11.possible. He will be really kicking himself.

:16:12. > :16:13.Great for William Sharman, great for Lawrence Clarke. There are medals to

:16:14. > :16:16.be one. Lawrence Clarke. There are medals to

:16:17. > :16:22.be I believe those two could get on the podium. Will Sharman will have

:16:23. > :16:29.his eyes on gold, no doubt about that.

:16:30. > :16:37.Did he get drawn into a race before the final? Of course he did! He

:16:38. > :16:45.wants to be competitive. He wants to stamp his authority. He is saying, I

:16:46. > :16:48.am here, I am ready to win. That says a lot to the rest of the

:16:49. > :16:54.competitors that he is in good shape and he once said. We didn't exactly

:16:55. > :17:03.believe him when he said he eased off! You didn't, did you? I didn't.

:17:04. > :17:07.It is not my event and I would not profess to be an expert, but I think

:17:08. > :17:15.there was a bit of ego going on there. It is important going into

:17:16. > :17:19.the final feeling that you have another gear. To be honest, I think

:17:20. > :17:30.he does have another gear. Very diplomatic, Paul! As always! When we

:17:31. > :17:35.come back we will see David Weir. First, back to Michelle.

:17:36. > :17:39.If you are with us earlier, we showed you the opening stages of the

:17:40. > :17:47.net ball clash between England and Trinidad and Tobago. England went on

:17:48. > :17:51.to win that comfortably. They are on track for a semifinal spot. In the

:17:52. > :17:56.men's hockey, there was a late goal by Simon child that give New Zealand

:17:57. > :18:03.victory over England. England should still qualify. This defeat means

:18:04. > :18:11.that they are now likely to meet Australia in the semifinals.

:18:12. > :18:16.On BBC Three, the swimming heats. This evening there will be some yet

:18:17. > :18:21.gold is on offer. That will be the end of the swimming here in Glasgow.

:18:22. > :18:27.Live by the red button, the gymnastics is just beginning. There

:18:28. > :18:35.are two golds on offer today in the team event. There is a lot more via

:18:36. > :18:40.the BBC website, including Abington and long balls.

:18:41. > :18:50.Back to the athletics! Thanks, Michelle. Lots of stars in action

:18:51. > :18:54.today, David Rudisha, not later. David Weir. We also saw Greg

:18:55. > :18:59.Rutherford in long jump qualification. He qualified very

:19:00. > :19:06.easily with 8.05 metres. He seemed to sign every autograph in the

:19:07. > :19:11.stadium! Eventually, he made it to Phil Jones.

:19:12. > :19:21.Well, job done! I'd came into this saying I would love to get one jump

:19:22. > :19:26.and get into the final. It was called this morning, I was wearing

:19:27. > :19:30.nylon tights just to make sure the muscle stayed warm. From the point

:19:31. > :19:36.of view of the first round, I was happy. Just determined to get out

:19:37. > :19:41.there, get over 7.90 and get myself ready. The last time you were in

:19:42. > :19:49.Glasgow you warmed up but did not compete, you have a niggle. Are you

:19:50. > :19:52.OK? I am! There are always little niggles, but you manage them and

:19:53. > :19:56.hopefully come into the championships feeling as good as you

:19:57. > :20:02.can. I feel confident and happy, which is the most important thing.

:20:03. > :20:05.Unregistered tomorrow and hopefully another good performance. What a

:20:06. > :20:15.reception from the crowd! You must have brought back memories of London

:20:16. > :20:18.2012. Absolutely. It was unreal! It was out of this world. I just want

:20:19. > :20:24.to say thank you to the crowd, they helped hugely. Without them, it does

:20:25. > :20:32.change things. That was incredible. Amazing reception. You can hear how

:20:33. > :20:37.noisy it can get! You were able to give back to the crowd. You were

:20:38. > :20:43.signing autographs after autograph. As I said, the crowd were out of

:20:44. > :20:47.this world. It is always nice to spend a bit of time, try to take a

:20:48. > :20:55.few photographs and things like that. It was a pleasure. I was

:20:56. > :20:58.getting pulled away a lot! I like dew sidestepping Bacchae! It is

:20:59. > :21:03.likely to give back a little bit and I don't think everybody always does

:21:04. > :21:07.that. It is great to get some interaction. It is nice to be

:21:08. > :21:16.involved in that way. It is a great thing. We just saw Andy Turner, one

:21:17. > :21:21.of my best mates, go out and have a torrid time. That is a wake-up call.

:21:22. > :21:26.It is never easy at a major championship. You have to keep your

:21:27. > :21:32.head on, hope fully have a good one. Thank you for talking to us.

:21:33. > :21:41.Let's have a look at the long jump qualifiers. Greg Rutherford leading

:21:42. > :21:54.the way. Very generous with his time, we have to say. I think Samaai

:21:55. > :21:58.could be a real fact in the final. Chris Tomlinson also made it

:21:59. > :22:04.through, but he has had his injury problems. JJ Jegede also managed to

:22:05. > :22:07.scrape through. Those finals are tomorrow evening. We have another

:22:08. > :22:31.guess, Tanni Grey-Thompson. We have the T54 Ontrack coming up

:22:32. > :22:38.soon for the men. Yes, the women's are coming up. I am nervous, I am

:22:39. > :22:44.feeling sick! There is nothing I can do now. Is it worse than competing?

:22:45. > :22:51.We worse. There is nothing I can do to help her. Right now I would

:22:52. > :22:57.rather be on the track them here. She is looking good. She is a teen

:22:58. > :23:03.and one of the most calm athletes I know. She just turned 16 in London.

:23:04. > :23:05.She dealt with it incredibly well. Every athlete works hard but I see

:23:06. > :23:13.She dealt with it incredibly well. her day in, day out. Being that

:23:14. > :23:14.close to her, it is really hard when you are closely involved with an

:23:15. > :23:21.athlete. Qualification, it is three you are closely involved with an

:23:22. > :23:27.plus the fourth fastest, so it shouldn't be too difficult. Shelly

:23:28. > :23:31.Woods, is -- comes up in the second heat will get through no problems at

:23:32. > :23:36.all. It'll be interesting to see how they run the races. It is whether

:23:37. > :23:39.all. It'll be interesting to see how they go out hard early, then go for

:23:40. > :23:45.an easy qualification. It is a they go out hard early, then go for

:23:46. > :23:51.atmosphere. For the athlete, are they enjoying it, is this a

:23:52. > :23:57.distraction with the cried? I think it all is preparation. You know that

:23:58. > :24:03.the crowd are supporting you. It is all good.

:24:04. > :24:19.Jonathan, you have interrupted a singsong! We were jumping up and I

:24:20. > :24:35.that everybody else. It is creating a great atmosphere for Jade Jones.

:24:36. > :24:52.She looks incredibly calm. Dawson-Farrell is from Glasgow. She

:24:53. > :25:01.gets a huge cheer! There is Frimpong, from Gama. Christie Dawes

:25:02. > :25:06.is on the inside. She is getting to the end of her career at 34. She

:25:07. > :25:19.picked up a bronze in the 5,000 metres in London. Here, going in the

:25:20. > :25:26.T54 1500 metres. Diane Roy is the defending champion.

:25:27. > :25:31.A great opportunity for the two youngsters, Jade Jones in

:25:32. > :25:38.particular. She has satellite ready quickly. Shelly Woods will be going

:25:39. > :25:42.in the next heat. The top three will qualify and the fourth fastest will

:25:43. > :25:54.get into the final. Jade Jones has gone into an early lead. Tucked in a

:25:55. > :26:01.little bit further back is Dawson-Farrell of Scotland. I think

:26:02. > :26:04.Jade Jones Dawson-Farrell of Scotland. I think

:26:05. > :26:13.trouble early on, make sure that she was clear. The challenging it is to

:26:14. > :26:15.force her way into the pack. Megan Farrell made a very sensible

:26:16. > :26:18.force her way into the pack. Megan decision to drop back. Jade Jones is

:26:19. > :26:34.a good person to sit behind because she has a good sprint finish.

:26:35. > :26:40.Four of them are already pulling away. Only three will qualify by

:26:41. > :26:45.right. You would have to think that the speed they are setting, there is

:26:46. > :26:52.every opportunity that all four of them will go through.

:26:53. > :26:56.Dawson-Farrell, her dad set up a set of rollers in the front room where

:26:57. > :27:10.she lives so she could do a bit of training there. The record at the

:27:11. > :27:14.games, that is still held by Rory, there is every chance we could see

:27:15. > :27:21.that cool here in the heat. Jade Jones is leading them three 800

:27:22. > :27:25.metres. Tanni Grey-Thompson, she is only 18, but she is shown but she

:27:26. > :27:29.can cope with this kind of situation. Jade shows no fear

:27:30. > :27:46.whatsoever. Interesting, they are just lying

:27:47. > :27:55.Dawson-Farrell to come to the front. This is Megan's moment, actually.

:27:56. > :28:03.They are taking it fairly steady at the moment. This is a wonderful

:28:04. > :28:07.experience for Dawson-Farrell. It'll be a great race for a Megan,

:28:08. > :28:12.probably a personal best. They take the bell. It is

:28:13. > :28:19.probably a personal best. They take leading at the moment. Tucked in

:28:20. > :28:23.behind her is Jade Jones, then Diane Roy. The top three will

:28:24. > :28:29.automatically qualify. A reasonable speed being set here. The Scottish

:28:30. > :28:32.cried are really enjoying this performance from the 21-year-old.

:28:33. > :28:40.cried are really enjoying this Jade Jones has moved through to take

:28:41. > :28:53.the lead. These three start to pull away. Jade Jones is going to try to

:28:54. > :29:03.hang on to the lead. A little bit of testing is being done. Look at the

:29:04. > :29:05.experience of Diane Roy. Dawes is following in her slipstream. These

:29:06. > :29:14.three will qualify fairly comfortably. Let's look at the

:29:15. > :29:21.clock. A new games record in the heats! Those three are safely

:29:22. > :29:25.through. Dawson-Farrell crosses the line in fourth place.

:29:26. > :29:28.through. Dawson-Farrell crosses the fastest loser spots available, I am

:29:29. > :29:32.pretty hopeful that she will be able to go through to the final

:29:33. > :29:35.pretty hopeful that she will be able Thursday. Job done. I'm sure the

:29:36. > :29:36.pretty hopeful that she will be able atmosphere in here will be something

:29:37. > :29:39.that the three of them will have enjoyed. A little bit over the test

:29:40. > :29:53.over the last 300 metres. race. She wasn't pulling the pace

:29:54. > :30:00.too hard. She is good at grabbing on to a wheel. It is quite windy and if

:30:01. > :30:06.you're behind somebody, you can make a difference to the time and energy

:30:07. > :30:12.that is expended. She is very experience doing just what she had

:30:13. > :30:27.to do. And there is plenty more to come from all three women in this

:30:28. > :30:32.race. Well, Tanni, I know - well for both of us, our days have gone, but

:30:33. > :30:39.the chance to compete in this sort of atmosphere is marvellous for Jade

:30:40. > :30:45.Jones. Yes, I can relax now, as somebody involved in her coaching. I

:30:46. > :31:00.felt I was pushing every single step with he:. Shelley Woods in the next

:31:01. > :31:08.heat. But Jade Jones is through. Back to this decathlon. David Guest

:31:09. > :31:15.of Wales. Looking to get among the medals. He is just outside of them

:31:16. > :31:22.at the moment for the Welsh record holder. He is a world junior

:31:23. > :31:30.champion. Now at the age of 22, with a discus best of 43 metres. Anything

:31:31. > :31:41.close to that gives you a chance of accumulating the points across the

:31:42. > :31:51.ten events. Very good, a season's best. 43.14. STEVE CRAM: Roy winning

:31:52. > :31:59.that one as expected. Perhaps as expected. Jade Jones going through

:32:00. > :32:07.and Dawson Farrell with a good performance in fourth. A season's

:32:08. > :32:11.best for Fordjour. Jade is with me after what I would imagine is an

:32:12. > :32:17.amazing moment for you to go around being cheered by this crowd and a

:32:18. > :32:19.Scot in the race as well. Yes, it is the first time I have competed for

:32:20. > :32:25.England. So it was different. the first time I have competed for

:32:26. > :32:29.experienced it at the Paralympic this atmosphere, did it bring back

:32:30. > :32:35.good memories? Yes I have been saying the whole thing reminds me of

:32:36. > :32:41.London. It is good and the crowd's amazing. You're still so young, to

:32:42. > :32:50.have those experiences under your belt will stand you in great stead?

:32:51. > :32:56.Yes I'm still quite young and wheelchair racers don't peak until

:32:57. > :33:01.their 20s. So to make the final is amazing. What do you learn from a

:33:02. > :33:06.race like this, a tactical race? Yeah, the girls raced differently at

:33:07. > :33:10.Paralympics and the Commonwealth Games. It is more tactical and it is

:33:11. > :33:16.kind of getting yourself in the right positions and you learn from

:33:17. > :33:23.each race. Tanni said that you're fearless! I am not so shoor about

:33:24. > :33:38.that -- sure about that. But it was a good race. All the best well done.

:33:39. > :33:46.Thank you. The second of the first round T54 heats with Samantha

:33:47. > :34:05.Kinghorn in this one and beside her Shelley Woods. Both would expect to

:34:06. > :34:12.qualify. What an experience this will be for her. I stress that ten

:34:13. > :34:21.athletes will go through from 14 starting. So qualifying should be

:34:22. > :34:27.comfortable for Shelley Woods and Samantha Kinghorn. Angie Ballard as

:34:28. > :34:33.well from Australia and you would expect them to make it. Shelley

:34:34. > :34:36.well from Australia and you would Woods is the world record holder

:34:37. > :34:40.over this distance. Silver medals from the last two Paralympics. And

:34:41. > :34:46.Tanni watching this, I was from the last two Paralympics. And

:34:47. > :34:54.quote from Steven Miller who said integration isn't the way forward,

:34:55. > :34:59.but it is great for the athletes involved. It is amazing for

:35:00. > :35:05.Commonwealth Games, where you're able to drop in a number of events

:35:06. > :35:08.and it is interesting that canoeing and rowing have integrated world

:35:09. > :35:14.Championships. That is something that would be easy to achieve and

:35:15. > :35:19.quite exciting. Because I think for the fans, they don't differentiate

:35:20. > :35:24.between somebody disabled and not disabled. They just want to see

:35:25. > :35:28.great racing. One of things in wheelchair racing is when they're

:35:29. > :35:34.crashes and people are moving each other in and out in a way you can't

:35:35. > :35:39.do in running. And spectators love that. For those watching Athletic

:35:40. > :35:44.lets for the first time, morning sessions are not supposed to have

:35:45. > :35:50.crowds like this. You go around the world and morning sessions are

:35:51. > :35:53.sparsely attended. We saw at the London Olympic what is can happen

:35:54. > :36:02.with crowds and we are seeing it again in Glasgow. We're just about

:36:03. > :36:22.ready. It is a longish hold on the start. The T53s are racing here as

:36:23. > :36:31.well. But perhaps for Tanni to explain the differences. Well the

:36:32. > :36:37.T53 has no stomach or lower back Mus ms and a T54 does. The difference it

:36:38. > :36:44.makes is on the start. You're not able to hold your body down in the

:36:45. > :36:51.same way. At 1,500 metres and above, even races together, because it is

:36:52. > :36:56.deemed there is so little difference. Once you get up to top

:36:57. > :37:02.speed there is no differentiation. Does that affect a change in speed,

:37:03. > :37:07.if somebody puts in a kick to get the acceleration going? It can do in

:37:08. > :37:12.terms of if there is a lot of repetitive kicking. I was a T53 and

:37:13. > :37:18.used my head and arms to lift my body. If you look at Samantha

:37:19. > :37:25.Kinghorn, her knees are higher than some of the T54 athletes, because

:37:26. > :37:31.she uses the knees and the seating cage to act ass a support to help --

:37:32. > :37:36.to act as a support to help her. So she may get a better top speed if

:37:37. > :37:43.her niece were lower, it would have a big effect on how she is can get

:37:44. > :38:06.away from the gun. A big noise for Shelley Woods. The head phones being

:38:07. > :38:16.put to good use in this noisy Hampden Park. The second heats in

:38:17. > :38:19.the first round. Three to go through automatically and the four fastest

:38:20. > :38:27.losers to the final on Thursday night. A bit of weak sunshine

:38:28. > :38:50.filtering through as an give Ballard takes it -- Angie Ballard takes the

:38:51. > :38:53.lead. The noise will carry these athletes all the way around the

:38:54. > :38:59.track. Shelley Woods is athletes all the way around the

:39:00. > :39:13.in third. Explain some of the tactics here? Shelley Woods is in a

:39:14. > :39:20.safe place and doesn't want go go to the front. They will hit the front

:39:21. > :39:24.of the chair, that is the compensator that takes them around

:39:25. > :39:28.the bends. They will have an opportunity to set the chairs and it

:39:29. > :39:35.is crucial they get that right. Especially at the change in speeds

:39:36. > :39:45.and the wind can affect it. It is crucial you get this right. Because

:39:46. > :39:49.if you don't you can clip the kerb. Samantha Kinghorn out in front and

:39:50. > :39:54.the crowd enjoying this. Her personal best she was set in Bedford

:39:55. > :40:00.in June. But just 18 years old and plenty to come. She is having a look

:40:01. > :40:07.around and asking perhaps for others to come through. Yes, Sammy Kinghorn

:40:08. > :40:15.has only been racing two year, she op broke her back in 2010. So she

:40:16. > :40:19.has a fast PB. But that was in a paced race. She doesn't have the

:40:20. > :40:24.experience of the tactics. But this is slower. They're taking it very

:40:25. > :40:31.steady and going for safe qualification. Three go through

:40:32. > :40:38.automatically. And not as quick as the first heat and they're really

:40:39. > :40:43.slowing down as Angie Ballard looks around. They're all doing the maths,

:40:44. > :40:48.saying three from five. Shelley Woods, the big talent, the world

:40:49. > :40:57.record holder, in the middle of the pack. It is a very slow pace. You

:40:58. > :41:01.look at the time in the first one we are not going to be on that now. But

:41:02. > :41:10.the crowd want to see a race and they will see a burn up on the last

:41:11. > :41:16.lap. Sammy Kinghorn deciding to hit the accelerator a bit. And they come

:41:17. > :41:27.to the final lap and we stress just three from this top five will go

:41:28. > :41:33.through automatically. Shelley Woods hanging on to the back of Angie

:41:34. > :41:37.Ballard. We suspect they may begin too lift away. The noise, which has

:41:38. > :41:43.been tremendous for the morning session, rose again and here comes

:41:44. > :41:48.Shelley Woods on the outside. Takes her past Angie Ballard and Sam

:41:49. > :41:53.Kinghorn and a look inside and testing her pace for greater

:41:54. > :41:58.challenges to come in the final. Angie Ballard easing her way past

:41:59. > :42:06.Sam Kinghorn. But Kinghorn looks like she is going to hang on to

:42:07. > :42:11.third and automatic qualifying. Shelley Woods showing us what she

:42:12. > :42:13.can do, as if they needed reminding. She takes it just outside four

:42:14. > :42:20.minutes. Samantha Kinghorn goes She takes it just outside four

:42:21. > :42:25.through in third. A steady race and nothing too spectacular. But Shelley

:42:26. > :42:36.Woods with plenty left in the tank. No doubt about that. Shelley Woods

:42:37. > :42:42.again doing just what she had to do, Tanni? Yes I may have expected her

:42:43. > :42:47.to take it out earlier to test the others. But when you see her

:42:48. > :42:54.accelerate, she lifts her elbows very high and drives strongly

:42:55. > :42:59.through. In the last couple of months Shelley's acceleration has

:43:00. > :43:05.improved. At the final she will have to go harder and quicker. She does

:43:06. > :43:09.haven't the sprinting that Angie Ballard has and she will have to

:43:10. > :43:19.work harder to reach the podium on Thursday. Mohammed was squeezed out

:43:20. > :43:28.to fourth and she will have wait to see if she qualifies for the final

:43:29. > :43:35.as the fastersest lose -- fastest loser. Shelley Woods you suspect my

:43:36. > :43:42.be the athlete too beat in the final. But of course Diane Roy and

:43:43. > :43:52.Dawes and Jade Jones looked very strong in the first heat. They're

:43:53. > :43:54.just enjoying the atmosphere. The final is on Thursday night. So a

:43:55. > :43:59.couple of days to recuperate. final is on Thursday night. So a

:44:00. > :44:44.Weir is going in a little while of that? When she had to, she found

:44:45. > :44:52.a bit of extra speed. That was a consummate performance

:44:53. > :44:58.through to the final. Let me ask you about the atmosphere and how you

:44:59. > :45:04.enjoyed it? It is fantastic out here. It is amazing to have the

:45:05. > :45:09.opportunity to race here. I think they give support for everybody, but

:45:10. > :45:16.especially for England the support is amazing. There are a lot of

:45:17. > :45:23.people supporting all of the racers, which is brilliant. How did that

:45:24. > :45:31.risk all for you? It was good. I am happy with that. It is happy to blue

:45:32. > :45:37.-- I am happy to blow away the cobwebs of it. I think the big

:45:38. > :45:42.contenders are in the other heat. I think the final will be very

:45:43. > :45:48.competitive. Will you be in medals? That is what I am going for! Thank

:45:49. > :45:57.you for talking to us. Thank you. A full house at Hampden Park.

:45:58. > :46:05.Jessica Ennis-Hill has said that Reggie, he is her new baby, are

:46:06. > :46:10.enjoying watching the athletics. Day one of the heptathlon. Well,

:46:11. > :46:12.actually, he is fast asleep. As parents, we say enjoyed those

:46:13. > :46:24.moments of peace and quiet. Up on track next is arguably the

:46:25. > :46:33.greatest Paralympic athlete of all time. David Weir. We have been to

:46:34. > :46:39.meet him. You had fallen out of love with the

:46:40. > :46:49.Paralympics after your first experience. I was training aid not.

:46:50. > :46:52.I just lost the love of it. I wasn't impressed with the whole movement,

:46:53. > :46:59.the Paralympic movement. I didn't think there would be a future in it.

:47:00. > :47:02.Racing in Atlantic, there were probably more people sitting down

:47:03. > :47:07.beside the swimming pool than there were in the whole stadium. I trained

:47:08. > :47:13.for a bit when I got back, then I just didn't want to do it any more.

:47:14. > :47:18.That is four gold medals for Tanni Grey-Thompson!

:47:19. > :47:24.It was watching Sydney and Tanni Grey-Thompson. Yes, it was, watching

:47:25. > :47:30.Tanni Grey-Thompson and the team doing so well, I was bitterly

:47:31. > :47:36.disappointed in myself. I felt like I had let down a lot of people. I

:47:37. > :47:41.said to myself, I will get back into the sport. I didn't know what I was

:47:42. > :47:46.going to do, but afterwards I got the chair right and slowly got back

:47:47. > :47:51.into it. Driving him on is somebody that he has known since he was eight

:47:52. > :47:57.years old, Jenny Archer, who he turned to in 2002 since taking a

:47:58. > :48:03.break from the sport. I asked what he really wanted to do. He said, I

:48:04. > :48:09.want world records, gold medals, I want to be number one in the world.

:48:10. > :48:19.I thought, I can't let this guy down. He had so much talent. He just

:48:20. > :48:23.needed someone there to give him an extra push. He came and asked for

:48:24. > :48:28.help and I have been working with them ever since. It has been

:48:29. > :48:33.phenomenal for me to be by his side all these years. Are you now

:48:34. > :48:39.impressed with how things have changed? Yes. I think London was

:48:40. > :48:42.such an amazing experience, not just winning all the gold medals.

:48:43. > :48:48.Underneath the stadium as we were going in, they already had said that

:48:49. > :48:55.the tickets have sold out, but you still have the dyke, have they

:48:56. > :49:04.really? I looked up and all I could see was the top layer -- they have

:49:05. > :49:09.all sold out. I've just had a big smile, we have done it! You have all

:49:10. > :49:14.those incredible memories. Do you draw on them? Of course. You think

:49:15. > :49:20.of what you have done and that drives you on. I still have a few

:49:21. > :49:27.challenges left. If I didn't have that, I probably would have retired.

:49:28. > :49:33.I still have goals that I want to achieve.

:49:34. > :49:39.What does it mean to you when a child comes up to you and tells you

:49:40. > :49:47.that you are their hero? You get little clips on the Internet with

:49:48. > :49:51.people saying, my child is sitting on a skateboard and he thinks he is

:49:52. > :49:58.David Weir. Those kids don't care that you are in a wheelchair. It

:49:59. > :50:05.gives you a happiness and joy at being recognised for what we do. We

:50:06. > :50:09.are athletes. Yes, we might Bush machine, but it takes a lot of

:50:10. > :50:18.effort to do and I think the kids realise that. -- push a machine.

:50:19. > :50:29.From the start days, he has blossomed into a stunning athlete.

:50:30. > :50:33.He was amazing as a junior athlete. He didn't believe that he was as

:50:34. > :50:38.good as everybody else thought he was. We are all telling him, you can

:50:39. > :50:50.be number one in the world. He was so disillusioned by Atlanta. We are

:50:51. > :50:55.so happy that Sydney triggered him back in again. Even in Athens he was

:50:56. > :50:59.still saying, I am not sure I can be number one in the world. After

:51:00. > :51:12.Athens, and massive jump up and performance. -- in performance.

:51:13. > :51:17.He can push themselves harder in training than most people I know.

:51:18. > :51:23.Tactically, he is really astute. Until he believed that, whatever you

:51:24. > :51:30.said to him, he just didn't get. His partnership with Jenny Archer is

:51:31. > :51:37.amazing. She knows him Inside Out. She knows how to encourage him,

:51:38. > :51:42.cajole him. David is very selective in the racers that he does so in

:51:43. > :51:53.those races he has to do well. She brings out the best in him. Where do

:51:54. > :51:58.you think is mindset is? Real will be a very different games. In

:51:59. > :52:03.London, we got the Paralympics. Because of the TV coverage people

:52:04. > :52:11.came to watch. I am much we will have that in real. He absolutely

:52:12. > :52:23.can't get there and win gold medals. It is whether he feels it is enough

:52:24. > :52:29.of a push for him. The silver bullet from Switzerland, that will sharpen

:52:30. > :52:35.his mind. Let's jump back to the stadium to

:52:36. > :52:40.catch up with some Horsfield. We are moving back to the discus,

:52:41. > :52:46.the seventh of the ten the capital on events. This is Ashley Bryant.

:52:47. > :52:51.Some of the contenders for the medals have already throw in. You

:52:52. > :53:02.can get amongst them. Well, it was high. An awkward flight. We can

:53:03. > :53:08.improve on that. Good power. He did not get his hand into the right

:53:09. > :53:14.position at release. He showed too much of the discus to get the flight

:53:15. > :53:21.required to send it out to serious distances. He just wanted to get one

:53:22. > :53:36.in. This man, Lindon Victor, is a very good discus the law. He is a

:53:37. > :53:48.50-metre discus thrower. His pole-vault is almost nonexistent.

:53:49. > :53:55.His javelin is good also. These guys know that the minor medals are still

:53:56. > :54:14.up for grabs. That is a game is best for him. -- games.

:54:15. > :54:22.We are just getting ready for the first heat of the T54 1500 metres.

:54:23. > :54:31.Everyone is huddling together for warmth. It is a wonderful setting,

:54:32. > :54:34.wonderful atmosphere. We are just waiting for the athletes. A bit of a

:54:35. > :54:55.delay. We will head back to the field.

:54:56. > :55:07.So, Jessica has a link -- Jessica Zelinka. Well clear.

:55:08. > :55:15.Early stages, but the English athletes know that the bronze medal

:55:16. > :55:22.is up for grabs if they put together a good performance.

:55:23. > :55:42.is up for grabs if they put together there. 1.57 metres.

:55:43. > :55:54.Jessica Taylor now. Her first attempt. They are

:55:55. > :55:54.Jessica Taylor now. Her first each other. Quite an unorthodox

:55:55. > :56:04.technique. Went very wide and each other. Quite an unorthodox

:56:05. > :56:12.came back. A huge clearance. Clean so far.

:56:13. > :56:24.I think we have worked out why we are waiting for the start of the T54

:56:25. > :56:30.1500 metres. The Kenyan athlete briefly left the stadium. I believe

:56:31. > :56:40.some of the athletes here are briefly left the stadium. I believe

:56:41. > :56:49.the same chairs as athletes from a previous race. They might have to

:56:50. > :57:01.swap the wheels. A long wait for David Weir and the rest. You can see

:57:02. > :57:13.Richard Colman beside David Weir. He goes for Australia. Josh Cassidy, he

:57:14. > :57:21.has gone close to three minutes, as well. He won the 2012 Boston

:57:22. > :57:29.Marathon. There is Richard Nicholson. He got a bronze medal in

:57:30. > :58:04.2012. Boateng, off-camber. There is one

:58:05. > :58:13.T53 in this race, and there he is, Richard Colman. He was a champion in

:58:14. > :58:24.Athens and London at T53. Let's listen to the noise for David Weir.

:58:25. > :58:28.This kind of atmosphere, that is what keeps him going after all he

:58:29. > :58:44.has already done in the sport. Six Paralympic golds. He will have no

:58:45. > :58:48.problems in this heat. Three go through automatically, plus the

:58:49. > :59:00.fourth fastest losers go through to the finals. David Weir just looking

:59:01. > :59:10.out to Josh Cassidy, who will take it out. Looking at the four men

:59:11. > :59:20.there, they are of the standard athletes here. Only three will go

:59:21. > :59:25.through automatically. I think they will like it to be a fairly quick

:59:26. > :59:31.race, just so if they finish out of the top three they will still have a

:59:32. > :59:39.chance of getting through. Tanni Grey-Thompson, they should be

:59:40. > :59:45.comfortable for David Weir. The first lap was, I think it is fair to

:59:46. > :59:52.say, sedate. Josh Cassidy is more of a road specialist. You can see that

:59:53. > :59:57.it looks as if they are having a bit of a chat. Josh doesn't seem to want

:59:58. > :00:05.to take the lead. Richard Colman is the one they seem to want at the

:00:06. > :00:09.front. He is a dangerous athlete. He does have a devastating pick-up and

:00:10. > :00:12.sprint finish. I think they are trying to tire him out and make it

:00:13. > :00:19.more difficult for him to think about qualifying.
