:00:00. > :00:00.not as clean as in the first two, but nevertheless he is the contest
:00:00. > :00:10.very well. He thinks he has won it, so do we, and what a story this is
:00:11. > :00:21.for this young fellow. Ladies and gentlemen, what a fantastic contest,
:00:22. > :00:26.your appreciation for both boxers. CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
:00:27. > :00:34.A unanimous decision, the winner and through to the semifinal, in the red
:00:35. > :00:49.corner from Scotland, Reece McFadden!
:00:50. > :00:55.tale run in Glasgow and he takes a bow to all sides of SECC and blows
:00:56. > :00:56.kisses of appreciation and he has secured himself a
:00:57. > :01:00.kisses of appreciation and he has secured place on the medal podium.
:01:01. > :01:07.Now to Northern Ireland's secured place on the medal podium.
:01:08. > :01:16.Dalton and see how he fares. This is being contefsed between
:01:17. > :01:23.boxers from Australia This is being contefsed between
:01:24. > :01:27.Ireland. The man in red operating from the orthodox stance is Andrew
:01:28. > :01:37.Maloney from Australia, 23 years of age and his opponent wearing blue is
:01:38. > :01:58.Ruaridh Dalton from Northern Ireland, 24 years old. He had a buy
:01:59. > :02:09.in the opening -- bye in the opening rupd. Dalton faces his third
:02:10. > :02:18.contest. He Bashar al-Assad the man from Africa and then the man from
:02:19. > :02:28.Tanzania. Both boxers one way from a guaranteed medal in the fly weight
:02:29. > :02:33.giegs. He is a skilful boxer and he has has got to bring the right into
:02:34. > :02:38.play. Maloney will often go down stairs to the body and he would be
:02:39. > :02:43.open to that shot. Dahl Topss has got to control this contest behind
:02:44. > :02:48.that jab. The Australian moves in quick. There is that dip of the leg.
:02:49. > :02:57.You have got to set him up with that right uppercut.
:02:58. > :03:09.There was a good right hand over the top from Maloney. A cuffing left
:03:10. > :03:13.hook was partially parried by the glove of Dalton. A good left hand,
:03:14. > :03:17.but warned by the referee to keep that shot up. There was a right down
:03:18. > :03:31.the middle from Dalton. Inside the final minute of this
:03:32. > :03:37.opening round. Maloney reached this stage four years ago in Delhi as he
:03:38. > :03:42.just manages to take the full force from that right cross over the top
:03:43. > :03:51.from Dalton. That was in the fly weight division that he lost to the
:03:52. > :03:55.eventually gold medallist at the quarter-finals stage. He will be
:03:56. > :03:58.keen to go one further. He got through with a good left hand
:03:59. > :04:04.against Dalton and a right hand over the top to win that exchange. We are
:04:05. > :04:24.approaching the closing stages of the opening round.
:04:25. > :04:32.A fairly close round to score. Good movement by the Australian, but that
:04:33. > :04:36.was definitely south of the border, an illegal punch. Some good work
:04:37. > :04:40.from Dalton with the jab and the straight right. He is in against
:04:41. > :04:47.this tricky guy who likes to come forward, but there a good example of
:04:48. > :04:53.bringing him on to the shot. All three judges favouring the
:04:54. > :04:57.Australian. So Ruairi Dalton, who has been moving beautifully in his
:04:58. > :05:03.two contests to date has conceded the opening round. Will it bring a
:05:04. > :05:09.change in tactics. It might. He lost his way in the last seconds, Maloney
:05:10. > :05:14.started to land and score some better shots. That is probably why
:05:15. > :05:20.he got the round. We move into the second round. Ruairi Dahlton in
:05:21. > :05:36.blue, Andrew Maloney of Australia in red. Maloney took the opening round.
:05:37. > :05:42.Maloney took a swift counter from Dalton and Dalton on the front foot.
:05:43. > :05:57.Maloney comes back and they're trading shots again. A good right
:05:58. > :06:04.hand to the body from Dalton. Plenty watching, feinting, trying to
:06:05. > :06:09.trigger something off. Again Maloney warned about punches straying below
:06:10. > :06:16.the belt line. Maloney darts in and out and you have got to get your
:06:17. > :06:20.timing right. That is why I'm amazed Dalton hasn't thrown the right
:06:21. > :06:24.uppercut. That is the punch to throw. For Maloney, he has some
:06:25. > :06:29.success with the movement, he has slowed down and that may suit
:06:30. > :06:35.Dalton. This Australian holds his feet, Dalton also. There it wasn't
:06:36. > :06:38.too far away. Another left from Maloney and two appeared to be just
:06:39. > :06:44.around the belt line. The referee will keep an eye on that. A couple
:06:45. > :06:51.of words with him already. Dalton hasn't complained. We go beyond the
:06:52. > :06:55.mid point of the second round. A good right to the body. There was a
:06:56. > :07:18.left hook response from Maloney. There is a crack little right hook
:07:19. > :07:21.over the top from Dalton. When you're working on the inside, you
:07:22. > :07:26.have got to show a bit of intelligence now and again and move
:07:27. > :07:30.your head and try and create space. Maloney tends to do that. He has
:07:31. > :07:42.some good head movement there. You can't just let the heads rub and
:07:43. > :07:48.pound away, because it become s s a stale mate. It is a still and an art
:07:49. > :07:58.to box on the inside, but that is what you have got to do. Not much of
:07:59. > :08:11.the ring being used. That is lovely. Beautiful movement. We approach the
:08:12. > :08:18.closing seconds. He staggered back into the ropes near the red corner.
:08:19. > :08:24.Another all-action round. Plenty of in-fighting, plenty of boxes up at
:08:25. > :08:33.close range. How will the judges see that? I think Kev Smith will be
:08:34. > :08:37.happy, it wasn't a bad round for the Australian. Again that was a low
:08:38. > :08:45.shot. It was on the top of the leg. But the move frment Maloney was
:08:46. > :08:51.better. There is some good head move frment Maloney -- there is some good
:08:52. > :09:01.head movement from Maloney in that round. Again they have gone for
:09:02. > :09:11.Moloney. He showed op head movement and that was probably the
:09:12. > :09:17.difference. As we move into the third and final round, the man in
:09:18. > :09:22.blue representing Northern Ireland, Ruairi Dalton, a 24-year-old from
:09:23. > :09:27.the Holy Trinity Club, he is trailing. All three judges have
:09:28. > :09:46.scored both rounds in favour of the man in red from Australia, Andrew
:09:47. > :09:53.Moloney. He made it through to the second round in Kazakhstan. Dalton
:09:54. > :10:10.is the man that has got to produce a spectacular final round here if he
:10:11. > :10:18.hopes to progress to the podium. A good left/right from Dahl Dalton. It
:10:19. > :10:24.was a good attack from Dalton. But he allowed his man to turn him. Then
:10:25. > :10:28.he has got back to the centre of the ring. This Australian likes to move.
:10:29. > :10:33.The movement is part of his success, that is why he has to box in the
:10:34. > :10:37.spaces. When he is cornered on the rope, it is a different matter all
:10:38. > :10:41.together. But from centre ring, he has got full range of movement
:10:42. > :10:47.together. But from centre ring, he he boxes better. Ruairi Dalton
:10:48. > :10:53.trying to close the distance. That is a good left happened and a change
:10:54. > :11:01.of direction from Moloney. Dalton can't keep his man pinned down. Time
:11:02. > :11:08.ticking away. A good left hand from Moloney. Dalton attempting to get to
:11:09. > :11:10.work at close quarters. This is where the majority of the second
:11:11. > :11:20.round was boxed. The eye-catching shots coming from the
:11:21. > :11:22.Australian. Good movement and allowing the shots to sail over his
:11:23. > :11:31.head. That left eye allowing the shots to sail over his
:11:32. > :11:37.to be getting worse. He is landing with shots and then he is showing
:11:38. > :11:42.the judges that he has got defensive skims as hi moves away. And if you
:11:43. > :11:46.hit him and you you're making your opponent miss, you're winning. We
:11:47. > :11:48.are inside the time half minute of this third and final round. A good
:11:49. > :11:55.right hand from Dalton. That this third and final round. A good
:11:56. > :12:01.Moloney to cover up a bit. He is holding on. The ten second clapper
:12:02. > :12:08.will sound. Dalton has been told it is the last ten. That usually Ellis
:12:09. > :12:12.sits a furious response. Dalton tries to produce that, but
:12:13. > :12:20.raises his fist, because there can be little doubt that the Australian
:12:21. > :12:25.has gone one better Han his quarter -- than his quarter-final
:12:26. > :12:30.performance in Delhi. Dalton competed gamely, but one suspects
:12:31. > :12:35.that Andrew Moloney will go through. I think so. Dalton boxed a bit
:12:36. > :12:40.better in this round. Found his opponent with some good shots. But
:12:41. > :12:46.it was the movement, clever boxer, makes his opponent miss and then
:12:47. > :12:57.that is good work by the Australian. The head movement was impressive. He
:12:58. > :13:11.thinks he has got it. So do I. A good contest to watch that.
:13:12. > :13:21.The result of the final in the fly weight decision. By the unanimous
:13:22. > :13:30.decision in the red corner, from Australia, Andrew Moloney. Andrew
:13:31. > :13:35.Moloney, the Australian, has booked his place in the final four of the
:13:36. > :13:41.fly weight tournament in Glasgow 2014. Hard lines, what went wrong?
:13:42. > :13:47.Just a slow start, he was the quicker starter, but no regrets. I
:13:48. > :13:52.couldn't do anything more much. Fair fight p I hope he does well. Did you
:13:53. > :13:57.feel you came off second best? No doubt, I lost the fight. I don't
:13:58. > :14:04.make excuses, I'm in the best shape of my life and I gave it 100%. What
:14:05. > :14:10.about the experience as a whole? Unbelievable. To the day I die I
:14:11. > :14:16.will never forget this. Hard lines. Thanks for being with us and I think
:14:17. > :14:19.we can have a quick chat with the Australian victor. Well done, that
:14:20. > :14:25.was a convincing performance. Thank you. It was awesome. Unbelievable.
:14:26. > :14:29.You're going to have to fight Reece McFadden for a place in the final,
:14:30. > :14:37.you're fighting him and the crowd here are you looking forward to
:14:38. > :14:45.that? Yes I did sparring with Reece and I'm confident I can beat him. It
:14:46. > :14:51.will be tough with the crowd. Well done. Thank you. And now from 52
:14:52. > :14:57.kilograms to almost double that to big, big men, the superheavy weight
:14:58. > :15:02.and the third Anglo-Scottish confrontation. It is Ross Henderson
:15:03. > :15:06.of Scotland against the six foot six Englishman Joe Joyce and his route
:15:07. > :15:17.to the top of the amateur tree is not what you would expect.
:15:18. > :15:26.I started boxing around the age of 23 and I had my first bout and like
:15:27. > :15:31.one I went in there like what? I just loved the feel like of winning
:15:32. > :15:35.and I like enjoyed the training. The skipping, the hitting the bag,
:15:36. > :15:41.getting the aggression out and sparring and things you enjoy you
:15:42. > :15:47.excel at. It is like a game of chess, you think that person is good
:15:48. > :15:52.at throwing hooks and then you say, I know thousand defend hooks and
:15:53. > :15:58.you're always thinking. Commonwealth Games will be the first multi-sport
:15:59. > :16:04.Championship you have competed in, will you focus solely on that
:16:05. > :16:10.mission for goaled? -- gold? Yes I will enjoy the whole experience and
:16:11. > :16:16.look at all the other lat leets and learn -- athletes and learn from it.
:16:17. > :16:23.Following London 2012, Glasgow 2014 is a great platform to perform well
:16:24. > :16:35.and get a gold medal. What is your objective in Glasgow? Get out there
:16:36. > :16:40.and win! Basically! This is a remarkable story, Joyce only took to
:16:41. > :16:46.boxing in his early 20s, wasn't even member of the Team GB set up when
:16:47. > :16:51.Joshua Anthony won two years ago. He is 6'6" and away from the sport has
:16:52. > :16:57.a degree in fine art. Let's see if he can paint his opponent into a
:16:58. > :16:58.corner. Here we go, then.
:16:59. > :17:06.corner. Here we go, then. The first of a
:17:07. > :17:10.scheduled three, three-minute rounds in this superheavyweight quarter
:17:11. > :17:14.finals. The man in red representing Scotland is Ross Henderson. His
:17:15. > :17:20.opponent, wearing blue, representing England is Joe Joyce (
:17:21. > :17:31.These boxers have met twice before. On both occasions - Henderson goes
:17:32. > :17:35.down well with a double left hand. Henderson has come out faster. Joyce
:17:36. > :17:43.yet to find his rhythm. If there's a weak none his box -- weakness in his
:17:44. > :17:50.boxing, he has been caught twice. He was stopping in the opening round in
:17:51. > :17:56.a bronze medal round. In the World Championships last year, he was
:17:57. > :18:01.stopped in the opening round of his preliminary contest there as well.
:18:02. > :18:14.Perhaps Ross Henderson has studied those films and is attempting to put
:18:15. > :18:17.it on Joe Joyce early on. He's being urged on by the crowd. You've got to
:18:18. > :18:25.do it sensibly going forward. Joyce is starting to find range now
:18:26. > :18:43.and work with the better shot. That's a body shot that goes in
:18:44. > :18:47.there from Joyce. Ross Henderson, count being issued, he's on his
:18:48. > :18:52.knees in centre ring. Looking at the referee. He's up now.
:18:53. > :18:56.Is he going to indicate to the referee that he's OK? There's a
:18:57. > :18:59.minute to negotiate in this opening round?
:19:00. > :19:01.minute to negotiate in this opening He walks right back into the fire
:19:02. > :19:22.and met by two shots. He's done him again, caused him to
:19:23. > :19:24.double over. Henderson remains on his feet this time. He's been hurt
:19:25. > :19:37.to the body. Good shot from Joyce. Henderson
:19:38. > :19:41.crumpled for the second time. He's shaking his head. This could well
:19:42. > :19:45.have punched the fight out of him. He's got up, walking back to the
:19:46. > :19:49.neutral corner, pounds his gloves. Gets his hands up to show the ref
:19:50. > :19:52.that he's OK. Gets his hands up to show the ref
:19:53. > :20:01.round for Ross Henderson. Right back into the fire once more. What a
:20:02. > :20:06.round! All action. Big shots being traded. Joe Joyce putting his man on
:20:07. > :20:12.the floor twice, with some ferocious work to the body. Targeted the body
:20:13. > :20:19.and scored very well. I'll be amaze today this is not a 10-8 round. Body
:20:20. > :20:24.language was bad from Henderson. There's that body shot into the
:20:25. > :20:28.solar plex us. That hurt Henderson. Good jab from Joyce. Then he
:20:29. > :20:32.switches down stairs with the right upper cut. Just caught his man
:20:33. > :20:49.again. Then the second upper cut. Damage. -- upper cut did the damage.
:20:50. > :21:01.Incredible. I'm amazed. Ross Henderson on the canvas twice. Only
:21:02. > :21:03.a 10-9 round in favour of Joe Joyce. Oh, what a start to the round by Joe
:21:04. > :21:13.Joyce. Both boxers trading blows without
:21:14. > :21:19.caution. This could be a contest to see who cracks first.
:21:20. > :21:21.It's an all or nothing round now for Henderson. He's just going to go for
:21:22. > :21:32.it. He needs to get his hands up. You
:21:33. > :21:49.get the feeling that one shot is going to end this contest.
:21:50. > :21:54.He looks vulnerable he's being hit with. He's in
:21:55. > :21:57.He looks vulnerable trouble. Bad body language. He bites
:21:58. > :22:04.down on his gum shield and fights back. Every time he's hit to the
:22:05. > :22:08.body, his body language isn't good. Rory in defiance now, opening his
:22:09. > :22:13.arms and taking it to Joe Joyce. A brave heart performance, but he's
:22:14. > :22:17.down again. You suspect that could have been the
:22:18. > :22:22.last roll of the dice. No count has been issued. Showing a lot of bottle
:22:23. > :22:34.here, Henderson, in front of his home crowd.
:22:35. > :22:45.Joyce just drops his hands and shakes his hands. That's just to get
:22:46. > :22:47.a little bit more relaxation in his work. He hasn't really started yet -
:22:48. > :22:54.there you go! work. He hasn't really started yet -
:22:55. > :23:04.canvas for the third time. This will be his third count. He's beaten the
:23:05. > :23:06.into his eyes. He convinces the referee that he's OK. The action
:23:07. > :23:19.resumes. There's a minute to go. The jab sets it all up for Joyce.
:23:20. > :23:52.Then that left hook comes through. He bull dozes him back into the
:23:53. > :24:01.corner. Henderson has endured another torrid round. He's done well
:24:02. > :24:05.to survive it. There's the bell. Plenty of toughness and guts and
:24:06. > :24:09.spirit being shown from Ross Henderson. But he's trailing heavily
:24:10. > :24:13.in this contest having taken his third trip to the canvas. He's
:24:14. > :24:18.really trug there'lling. He gets caught with a terrific left hook
:24:19. > :24:23.there. I thought the referee would call an end to it here. Left hook -
:24:24. > :24:28.bang. What a punch that was. Sent him to the canvas. Sent his eye
:24:29. > :24:33.balls spinning like rolls on a fruit machine. Look how they go into
:24:34. > :24:43.orbit. He did well to recover from that sho shot. -- that shot. The
:24:44. > :24:53.left hook is a Suzy Q punch for Jo Joyce. It's only a 10-9 round.
:24:54. > :25:21.He's a very fit kid, Joe Joyce. We move into the final round.
:25:22. > :25:29.Jo Joyce has appeared comfortable. He's been hit with hard shots as
:25:30. > :25:34.well from Henderson. Both men competing in their second contest of
:25:35. > :25:38.this 2014 Commonwealth Games. Henderson beat the man from India in
:25:39. > :25:44.his opening bout, unanimous decision. Good right hand again from
:25:45. > :25:48.Joyce. That made Henderson go back. He's got to keep his hands up. He's
:25:49. > :25:51.as brave as anything, but that's just a delayed reaction there. He
:25:52. > :25:56.was caught with a good shot. His hands are too low as he's coming
:25:57. > :26:00.forward. It's a contest full of bravery from Ross Henderson. He's
:26:01. > :26:10.being outboxed here. He's continuing to swing away
:26:11. > :26:15.looking for a punch to produce a finish.
:26:16. > :26:24.Joe Joyce in control and Henderson really feeling the pace now.
:26:25. > :26:29.Superheavyweight boxing one punch can end it. Joyce has to stay
:26:30. > :26:33.composed Bad sign here. S again. A standing count has been issued.
:26:34. > :26:36.Henderson turning his back. That's not permitted in boxing. The
:26:37. > :26:41.referee's mantra, protect yourself at all times. Henderson turned his
:26:42. > :26:44.back on Joe Joyce and received his fourth count. He's been to the
:26:45. > :26:52.canvas three times. That's the fourth count during the bout.
:26:53. > :26:57.As Richie Woodhall pointed out - He's getting into a rhythm, Joyce.
:26:58. > :27:03.He's boxing sensibly, not too excited.
:27:04. > :27:15.It's a sickening jab that Joe Joyce possesses. Oh, left hook! That
:27:16. > :27:23.knocks Henderson to the canvas. That's got to be it referee, come
:27:24. > :27:29.Surely that on. Has to be the end. Henderson was sent across the ring,
:27:30. > :27:36.his legs crossed. The referee is allowing it to continue. There are
:27:37. > :27:40.less than 30 seconds to go. But Joe Joyce has put his man on the canvas
:27:41. > :27:45.for the fourth time. Henderson has received five counts. There's a
:27:46. > :27:51.left-right combination. And now the contest has been stopped. Ross
:27:52. > :27:59.Henderson stopped on his feet in a performance that was full of courage
:28:00. > :28:03.and bravery, but Joe Joyce was in charge of that match. The third time
:28:04. > :28:09.that these two boxers have met during competition and on each
:28:10. > :28:14.other, it is the man from England who has prevailed. It's nice to see
:28:15. > :28:21.the Scottish corner congratulated Joe Joyce. They're embracing and
:28:22. > :28:25.commiserating with Ross Henderson. He deserves immense credit for his
:28:26. > :28:29.conditioning, resilience and fighting spirit he demonstrated
:28:30. > :28:33.during that bout. An embrace between the two protagonists. There can be
:28:34. > :28:36.little doubt about the Victor, Joe Joyce progressing through to the
:28:37. > :28:41.medal stages in convincing fashion. The left hook produced the goods
:28:42. > :28:45.there. It was sensible boxing behind the jab right and left hook
:28:46. > :28:49.combination. I take my hat off to Henderson for his bravery. True
:28:50. > :28:54.Scotsman, wouldn't give way, kept going. He was just outboxed here. He
:28:55. > :28:57.was outpunched by a bigger and stronger man. Ladies and gentleman,
:28:58. > :29:01.before we declare the result, I am sure that everyone in this arena
:29:02. > :29:02.would like to pay tribute to both boxers.
:29:03. > :29:21.APPLAUSE The referee has stopped this contest
:29:22. > :29:26.in round number three. The winner by TKO victory, now through to the
:29:27. > :29:33.semifinal, in the blue corner, representing England, Joe Joyce! Joe
:29:34. > :29:39.Joyce has booked himself a place in the final four of the
:29:40. > :29:42.superheavyweight tournament. Some thunderous punching against
:29:43. > :29:47.Scotland's Ross Henderson. Listen to the round of applause that he
:29:48. > :29:51.receives. He exits the tournament at the quarter final stage. But no
:29:52. > :29:56.doubt about the Victor, it is Joe Joyce who will stand on the medal
:29:57. > :30:01.podium, in the super heavyweight tournament. Now the question remains
:30:02. > :30:07.- what colour medal will it be? The 13th ranked boxer in the world is
:30:08. > :30:09.through to the medal stages in the 91 kilogram plus heavyweight
:30:10. > :30:13.division. We've had a lot of cat-and-mouse
:30:14. > :30:17.fights here over the last few days, but that was nothing like that. From
:30:18. > :30:25.the word go you were going at it? Yeah, yeah, it's our third fight.
:30:26. > :30:31.Ross is a great opponent. Yeah, just enjoying the crowd, enjoying all the
:30:32. > :30:37.support and the music and the singing! Yeah, just a great fight.
:30:38. > :30:40.This is not patronising, you were so brave there, a couple of knock
:30:41. > :30:47.downs, but you were determined to hang in as long as possible. Joe's a
:30:48. > :30:52.hard puncher. He doesn't make mistakes. I didn't take that
:30:53. > :30:56.lightly. I knew Joe was going to come out here strong. I fought Joe
:30:57. > :31:01.twice. He's number four in the world for a reason. It's not because
:31:02. > :31:06.you're a big dumpling. It's because he's world class. That should have
:31:07. > :31:10.been a final. Looking at before, that should have been a final. What
:31:11. > :31:14.an atmosphere. Aye, the fans are absolutely brilliant. Everybody's
:31:15. > :31:22.come out to support us. Social media, me and Joe, he's been
:31:23. > :31:26.mentioning me, I told the big man -- I hope the big man goes on to win
:31:27. > :31:29.the Gold Medal. That's left hand? Practice makes perfect and I land
:31:30. > :31:34.today on the night, well, You've got afternoon. A medal, is that enough
:31:35. > :31:48.or onwards to the gold? Onwards to the Gold Medal gold. . A lovely
:31:49. > :31:57.touch. So Joe Joyce, who looked so impressive is guaranteed a bronze.
:31:58. > :32:02.He will the Ugandan boxer who beat the Ghanaian. So confirmation of the
:32:03. > :32:45.line up for the SECC, the afternoon continues
:32:46. > :32:54.and includes the women's and men's light weight bouts. And briefly more
:32:55. > :32:59.great news, more news of medals for our home nations. This is at
:33:00. > :33:05.Carnoustie in the shooting. England won silver in the men's trap thanks
:33:06. > :33:15.to Aaron Heading and at the Barry Buddon centre, a bronze in the 25
:33:16. > :33:22.metre rapid fire for Christian Callaghan. Jackie Stewart presenting
:33:23. > :33:29.the medals. Now I'm shooting off and handing you over to Hazel. That was
:33:30. > :33:36.great, the two big men knocking seven bells out of each other and
:33:37. > :33:39.then wishing each other well. Well done. Now, we are over the half way
:33:40. > :33:49.mark and we have had a few showers, but it is raining gold medals today,
:33:50. > :33:54.31 in total. Women's boxing is making its Commonwealth Games debut
:33:55. > :34:02.and today it is the light weights and the decibel levels are rising in
:34:03. > :34:08.the SECC. We watched part one of the team gymnastic yesterday. Part two
:34:09. > :34:18.will decide the medals. England and Wales are chasing precious metal
:34:19. > :34:22.there. It is the last day of the shooting in Carnoustie, where
:34:23. > :34:33.they're targeting the remaining five titles. And the track cycling is
:34:34. > :34:40.done, but there is plenty on the go at Cathkin Braes and plenty
:34:41. > :34:46.available on the red button, BBC Three and at Cathkin Braes it is the
:34:47. > :34:50.men's mountain biking and that is on BBC Three. This morning a full house
:34:51. > :34:56.at Hampden again and there will be another one tonight for the second
:34:57. > :35:07.session of athletics. We have seven times, including the women's 400 ms
:35:08. > :35:13.and the women's 1,500 m. But there is an event that women's 10,000
:35:14. > :35:17.metres that will bring back great memories for the host nation of
:35:18. > :35:23.Scotland. Only Scots and Kenyans have won that title. Going back to
:35:24. > :35:30.the first time it was staged in 1986 in Edinburgh and a certain Liz Link
:35:31. > :35:36.led the way -- Liz Lynch led the way. Before the Commonwealth Games
:35:37. > :35:42.in 86, nobody knew who I was. But I knew I was in great shape and that I
:35:43. > :35:47.was going to win. I never waivered from that belief. Going into the
:35:48. > :35:53.games, I'm thinking, I only live in Dundee that is only an hour and a
:35:54. > :36:00.half away. It won't feel like a Championship and I won't get nervous
:36:01. > :36:04.for it. But the exact opposite happened. I remember the Scottish
:36:05. > :36:09.team all dressed in their kilts and we were the last to go on in the
:36:10. > :36:13.parade to open the games. It was like a tonne of bricks hit you. As
:36:14. > :36:18.soon as they started playing the bagpipes, it was like every hair in
:36:19. > :36:22.your body stood up. It was electrifying. It was an amazing
:36:23. > :36:30.moment. It transformed everything. It was like this the biggest thing
:36:31. > :36:34.ever. A rainy day in ebb and I was Scotland's land opportunity to win a
:36:35. > :36:40.gold that day. With myself and the New Zealand girl and we broke away
:36:41. > :36:46.from the field. I knew the race was mine. Liz Lynch is in a great
:36:47. > :36:50.position. She is running strongly and looking comfortable. She will
:36:51. > :37:01.have to make a move. Every lap we ran, it got louder and louder and
:37:02. > :37:07.louder. Listen to this crowd! I just couldn't contain myself. Normally I
:37:08. > :37:14.would wait until the last 600 and I went from 1,000 out, because I
:37:15. > :37:19.couldn't hold myself back any more. The 3,000 metres champion from New
:37:20. > :37:25.Zealand is struggling in the wake of the young Scot. The whole of the
:37:26. > :37:31.packed stadium rises and she is getting faster. The last two laps
:37:32. > :37:37.were like glory laps. It was unbelievable how great I felt and I
:37:38. > :37:42.heard every word ace went around. She takes the 10,000 metres for
:37:43. > :37:53.Scotland and smashes the British record by an enormous margin. I
:37:54. > :37:56.think for me the 86 games were like the beginning of end, nothing stood
:37:57. > :38:01.up to the experience of that day and the joy you had, the sharing it with
:38:02. > :38:07.people in the stadium. I never experienced that again. It was like
:38:08. > :38:13.when I won the world title, it was a let down, because there was no one
:38:14. > :38:17.there chanting your name. How the crowd warmed to me was fantastic. I
:38:18. > :38:21.remember I won the medal and there is a tunnel under the track and it
:38:22. > :38:27.was pouring with rain. I thought everybody will be going home. All I
:38:28. > :38:30.heard was the stadium for half an hour shouting my name. It was
:38:31. > :38:37.surreal, I was like, it doesn't happen to me, because I had never
:38:38. > :38:41.won anything before. On that rainy night in everybody in 86, Israels
:38:42. > :38:50.just surpassed anything that I could ever have done. It inspired everyone
:38:51. > :38:57.and she went to retain that title in Auckland and then Yvonne Murray won
:38:58. > :39:01.it in 94 and then has come the reign of the Kenyans. They're favourites
:39:02. > :39:07.tonight. That is a gruelling vent, but so is the next one. Wirp heading
:39:08. > :39:17.to -- we are heading to Cathkin Braes and the events in the Chris
:39:18. > :39:27.Hoy velodrome are a memory and it is all about the mountain biking at
:39:28. > :39:32.Cathkin Braes centre, it is the highest point outside Glasgow and
:39:33. > :39:37.the course is renowned as a power course. It is five and a half K
:39:38. > :39:41.long, men tackle it seven time, women about six times the. The men's
:39:42. > :39:44.race is live right now. But we are going to show you what happened in
:39:45. > :40:00.the women's race earlier on. These are the closing stages.
:40:01. > :40:09.We can't see her, she is so far ahead. This has been an exciting.
:40:10. > :40:18.Here she is, the leader of the race. Came in as the favourite. That can't
:40:19. > :40:27.Top We saw her put her foot down once and she stopped to check her
:40:28. > :40:32.back tyre. Because that is the is no and the feeling of something
:40:33. > :40:36.flapping around. Making her way through that significant climb back
:40:37. > :40:40.up to the took, the Catherine Pendrel needs to hold it together.
:40:41. > :40:45.It has been a pretty perfect race. A couple of Ince tents through --
:40:46. > :40:53.incidents through the broken biscuits and that check of the back
:40:54. > :40:58.tyre on the last lap. This is the Canadian rider, leading the
:40:59. > :41:03.Australian Beth Henderson. We are looking at the race for the silver
:41:04. > :41:07.medal here. She has opened up a gap this time. We have seen it before
:41:08. > :41:15.where there was a significant gap and then Henderson pulled it back.
:41:16. > :41:21.But again batty is -- Batty is testing the Australian. Here is
:41:22. > :41:31.where we see who is in the best form. Beth looks fatigued. She has
:41:32. > :41:35.got her head down. Work to do again for Henderson. Batty a couple of
:41:36. > :41:41.times has tried to break the Australian with a breakaway too
:41:42. > :41:47.avoid -- to avoid that sprint finish. Again Batty putting it to
:41:48. > :41:52.the Australian, Henderson. Does the Aussie have anything else to give or
:41:53. > :41:56.will she have to settle for bronze? She is not giving up. I am sure
:41:57. > :42:03.there is a few things going through her mind. She will be feeling
:42:04. > :42:10.intense pain. But it is the silver medal she is racing for. But Emily
:42:11. > :42:16.Batty looks strong. Henderson powering through there. Staying in
:42:17. > :42:20.the saddle for the climb. And getting out the saddle gives you
:42:21. > :42:26.more power, but it does heighten the heart rate and take out more energy.
:42:27. > :42:31.I think Beth has hit the wall. Because you see the difference in
:42:32. > :42:36.the speed there. Emily Batty is taking the jut side of the three
:42:37. > :42:45.options, the longer, but the safer one. Thaning maybe all over for Beth
:42:46. > :42:49.Henderson. She looked like she hit the wall. I think it was significant
:42:50. > :42:55.when she didn't get out of the saddle on that last climb. You can
:42:56. > :43:00.see Batty powering away, trying to increase that gap. The two have been
:43:01. > :43:05.neck and neck all the way through, but Batty pulling away from
:43:06. > :43:09.Henderson. It doesn't look as though we will get that sprint to the line.
:43:10. > :43:16.Henderson. It doesn't look as though She has ridden a very good race here
:43:17. > :43:24.for the silver medal. Beth Henderson doesn't look like she has got much
:43:25. > :43:26.more in her. Emily has that motivation and she is throwing the
:43:27. > :43:33.bike around. That is a huge distance motivation and she is throwing the
:43:34. > :43:35.she has put into Beth Henderson. The front three now well spread out. It
:43:36. > :43:43.is looking like a Canadian one, two front three now well spread out. It
:43:44. > :43:46.and the dominance of women's cross country mountain biking in the
:43:47. > :43:55.Commonwealth Games looks like remaining for Canada. This looks to
:43:56. > :43:57.be the silver medallist in Emily bat tichlt Pendrel is in front. But this
:43:58. > :44:04.could be tichlt Pendrel is in front. But this
:44:05. > :44:09.target for Batty she said is to compete at the 2016 Olympics and it
:44:10. > :44:17.would be good to go there with a silver in the bag. It looks like
:44:18. > :44:19.Catherine Pendrel will claim the gold. But you get the impression
:44:20. > :44:24.Catherine Pendrel will claim the that Batty didn't fancy
:44:25. > :44:27.Catherine Pendrel will claim the had the legs. There has been a
:44:28. > :44:36.couple of times she has pulled away and it has been a false dawn. This
:44:37. > :44:40.is Pendrel coming through broken biscuits. It is going to be a
:44:41. > :44:46.fantastic day for Pendrel and the Canadians. They will have won if she
:44:47. > :44:54.pulls off this gold medal, they will have won every women's mountain bike
:44:55. > :45:00.event at the Commonwealth Games. It has taken three times. Four years
:45:01. > :45:06.ago it didn't happen in Delhi. But now it is back and the Canadians
:45:07. > :45:10.might have this one again. Less than two kilometres for Pendrel claiming
:45:11. > :45:16.the Commonwealth Games gold medal. The form Fer world -- former world
:45:17. > :45:22.champion, who missed out on a medals in the Olympics in Beijing and was
:45:23. > :45:26.disappointed to finish in ninth at the London Olympics. The Olympics
:45:27. > :45:29.vice-president been -- haven't been kind to Pendrel, but the
:45:30. > :45:34.Commonwealth Games look like they will finish in gold
:45:35. > :45:39.Commonwealth Games look like they Canadian, 33 years of age and she is
:45:40. > :45:43.set to make it three successive gold medals for Canada. It is a fan it is
:45:44. > :45:48.a record for -- fantastic record for that country. Yes there was talk
:45:49. > :45:53.that Canada don't give the Commonwealth Games 100% full
:45:54. > :46:01.focussed preparation. But my guess is they do, because the Commonwealth
:46:02. > :46:07.Games is very prestigeous and will give her a lot of encouragement. Two
:46:08. > :46:17.years away is the Olympics in Rio and she will want to put on a
:46:18. > :46:22.performance there. Catherine Half a lap away now, Pendrel, for claiming
:46:23. > :46:27.what she came for, the Gold Medal in the Commonwealth Games. You get into
:46:28. > :46:31.your early to mid-30s, those chances of success dwind alway. This was a
:46:32. > :46:43.really big moment for Pendrel, who will be 37 by the time the next
:46:44. > :46:47.Commonwealth Games came around. It shows how well Batty has increased
:46:48. > :46:54.the pace. She has cut into Pendrel's lead, all TB still a -- albeit still
:46:55. > :47:06.a massive one. They're only one position apart and 20th and 21
:47:07. > :47:10.ranked. Batty hasn't done as many points-earning as Pendrel has this
:47:11. > :47:22.year. She may have more endurance and stamina. She's pulled away from
:47:23. > :47:28.Henderson. Not too far away now from Pendrel, from beginning to really
:47:29. > :47:33.enjoy this final lap. The hard work has been done. She set out her stall
:47:34. > :47:38.from lap one. She didn't have the best start initially. By the halfway
:47:39. > :47:42.marker she was in the lead. She's increased that lead further and
:47:43. > :47:44.further. The lead has been eaten into by Batty, but nowhere near
:47:45. > :47:50.significantly enough to trouble the race leader. We see how easy she
:47:51. > :47:54.makes that steep climb look now, coming into the finish. She's just
:47:55. > :48:03.wiped her face. I'm sure she's getting excited about this victory
:48:04. > :48:04.salute. She's got all the technical sections
:48:05. > :48:17.salute. She's got all the technical home run now. This is Emily Batty
:48:18. > :48:23.now in second place. . Are Those Canadian jerseys dominating this
:48:24. > :48:32.race. This is Henderson in third place. It's not over yet. There's a
:48:33. > :48:35.lot of talk of the New Zealanders, local ride frerz England and
:48:36. > :48:40.Scotland challenging for the medals. Australia as well were hopeful of
:48:41. > :48:45.getting themselves in the major medals. It looks as though Henderson
:48:46. > :48:49.will claim bronze. It comes to these Commonwealth Games, it is Canada who
:48:50. > :48:56.you look for in the women's event. It has been the case again. Pendrel
:48:57. > :49:05.and Batty, absolutely magnificent. Looks like Emily Batty might have a
:49:06. > :49:09.ten-second lead on Bec Henderson. From here it's all endurance and
:49:10. > :49:13.power to the finish. Using every ounce of energy that's left in those
:49:14. > :49:20.legs just to make sure they make it up those climbs. There's been a
:49:21. > :49:24.couple of down on the riders from the previous laps. The adrenaline
:49:25. > :49:28.carrying her through. Henderson making a bit of a comeback here. She
:49:29. > :49:32.has found some energy reserves from nowhere. It's still a significant
:49:33. > :49:36.lead, but I think she's gaining slightly, Henderson. I think she'll
:49:37. > :49:38.be giving it everything she possibly can. That gap looks like it might be
:49:39. > :49:44.too big. They're too close to the too big. They're too close to the
:49:45. > :49:49.finish now. Emily Batty has fought hard. It's a much better shot of it
:49:50. > :49:53.when you can see it from above. Here is Pendrel coming through. She has
:49:54. > :49:59.the Canadian flag in her hand. She is about to become the Commonwealth
:50:00. > :50:03.Games champion, following in the foot steps of those who have come
:50:04. > :50:07.before, the two Canadian riders who have taken gold in the women's cross
:50:08. > :50:15.country Commonwealth Games previously. No champion four years
:50:16. > :50:19.ago, so Catherine Pendrel becomes the first mountain biking Gold
:50:20. > :50:25.Medallist for eight years. She makes it three successive gold medals for
:50:26. > :50:30.Canada in women's cross-country mountain biking, a magnificent
:50:31. > :50:36.performance from the experienced Catherine Pendrel, who takes the
:50:37. > :50:40.Gold Medal for Canada. That was a gutsy ride. We know you haven't had
:50:41. > :50:46.the most ideal preparation coming into this. Yeah, thank! I've had a
:50:47. > :50:50.back injury for quite a while now. Yeah, I wasn't able to be in the
:50:51. > :50:53.shape that I wanted to be coming into this race. For me to be here is
:50:54. > :50:58.great, to ride to fourth is brilliant, so yeah, I'm really
:50:59. > :51:05.happy. You really attacked it and went after this young rider here,
:51:06. > :51:10.who looked so strong out there, to be mixing it with these riders in
:51:11. > :51:14.your first season here. Yeah, well, I wasn't expecting it. I had no
:51:15. > :51:18.expectations coming into the race. I'm really happy with it. It was
:51:19. > :51:24.crazy atmosphere. Everywhere you went, there was cheering for you. It
:51:25. > :51:28.was amazing. Tell me what you make of this course, it's very Yeah, it's
:51:29. > :51:32.demanding. Changed a lot since we road it for national champs last
:51:33. > :51:34.year. They have added technical sections in. It's fun and flowing.
:51:35. > :51:38.Have you to remember that you're racing as well as enjoying it. I'm
:51:39. > :51:43.sure your sister is cheering you on as well. We will see Hannah in the
:51:44. > :51:47.road race later on. I saw Hannah for the first time yesterday, for a
:51:48. > :51:51.month, it was good to see her. Calmed the nerves a bit. It's
:51:52. > :51:55.amazing to have her here as well. Congratulations on a great ride and
:51:56. > :51:59.Anni, for you, as you say, great to get onto the start line here and to
:52:00. > :52:03.finish in that fourth position. You enjoyed it and enjoyed the crowd?
:52:04. > :52:08.Definitely. It's just amazing to have this much support behind you.
:52:09. > :52:11.It just like, I don't know, you can't hear all the individual
:52:12. > :52:15.people, but you feel the huge atmosphere, really pushing you
:52:16. > :52:21.forward. Amazing to have northerning, almost, home Games,
:52:22. > :52:27.it's Thank you great. Very much. In the men's event there's been a
:52:28. > :52:32.ninth Gold Medal for New Zealand. Because Anton Cooper here for the
:52:33. > :52:41.Kiwis across the line and his colleague and team-mate in second
:52:42. > :52:49.place in. Fact it was a clean sweep. New Zealand, New Zealand, Australia.
:52:50. > :52:53.That's the ninth gold for the Kiwis. Very gruelling, really tiring event.
:52:54. > :52:58.A lot of fatigue involved in the closing stages of that event. It
:52:59. > :53:04.brings to mind our word of the day today, it was inspired on my walk to
:53:05. > :53:10.work this morning, when one of our wonderful security personnel said to

:23:06. > :23:08.teams and that I had more in me. I've always loved the sport. That is
:23:09. > :23:12.really the main thing that's kept me going, my love for gymnastics and
:23:13. > :23:20.just that desire to achieve. COMMENTATOR: What a proud moment for
:23:21. > :23:26.Becky Downie. She is the European champion. It was a huge relief.
:23:27. > :23:29.Everyone could see the emotion. All those years were worth it. It was
:23:30. > :23:33.something that I'd dreamed of. To know that I can be successful,
:23:34. > :23:37.though it has taken me a long time to get there, at has been worth it
:23:38. > :23:43.and hopefully, it's the first of more to come. Bars is really my main
:23:44. > :23:48.focus and always will be. The beam is second and anything else is just
:23:49. > :23:53.a bonus. Gold is possible. I mean, it's a great competition for us to
:23:54. > :23:58.do. We all want to give it a go. It would mean so much. To be able to
:23:59. > :24:01.prove I'm not just a one-hit wonder and the success from Europeans, I
:24:02. > :24:06.can carry that through. I'd love to be able to take that experience and
:24:07. > :24:13.use it the best I can in Glasgow. Hopefully, I can produce more
:24:14. > :24:18.medals. Becki and her colleagues are across
:24:19. > :24:23.there behind me in the Hyde right now -- Hydro right now. The
:24:24. > :24:29.Hydroopened for business last September. Actually, it's rocking
:24:30. > :24:32.the last couple of days. The gymnastics tickets were amongst the
:24:33. > :24:37.first to be snatched when they went on sale. I know Beth has managed to
:24:38. > :24:41.squeeze in there as has Matt Baker. They are in there baiting for us.
:24:42. > :24:45.Matt, we've -- waiting for us. Matt, we've had a lot to celebrate with
:24:46. > :24:53.the England's Gold Medal and Scotland's silver. But there was
:24:54. > :24:58.great concern about Sam Oldham. Have you heard more about his condition?
:24:59. > :25:02.We're waiting to hear the results of an MRI scan. We are expecting the
:25:03. > :25:07.results very shortly. He was due to have that scan at 4pm. It was a
:25:08. > :25:12.really, really difficult landing that he took a lot of pressure and
:25:13. > :25:17.stress went through that left ankle. Didn't it, Beth, talk us through it?
:25:18. > :25:21.He was doing a really good difficult vault. He came in slightly short and
:25:22. > :25:27.landed with his full weight on that ankle. His ankle went into the mat
:25:28. > :25:34.so we can't see what happened. He did a lot of flight. There's the
:25:35. > :25:39.half turn. He knew it didn't feel right. Sam never reacts like that.
:25:40. > :25:43.When one of our top gymnasts calls the medical staff over, luckily we
:25:44. > :25:48.have brought our own team out here. They are straight on it. They know
:25:49. > :25:52.what Sam's like as an athlete and how he reacts. Such a disappointment
:25:53. > :25:57.for him because from an individual perspective it was going so well. He
:25:58. > :26:01.was looking forward to the all-around competition. He was. He
:26:02. > :26:06.was in floor final and he's come back to form. It was going to be an
:26:07. > :26:11.interesting all-around competition between himself and Matt. This was
:26:12. > :26:14.Sam's year, because for a while he's been inconsistent but seems to be
:26:15. > :26:17.hitting really well. He had great results as a junior. He was part of
:26:18. > :26:20.the winning team in London. Obviously, he hasn't had maybe the
:26:21. > :26:24.individual results that he'd hoped for. But he seemed to be training so
:26:25. > :26:29.well lead intoing this competition. He picked up the silver at the
:26:30. > :26:33.Europeans on the high bar. Overnight, the interesting thing
:26:34. > :26:36.about this qualification and team final is that it's been split over
:26:37. > :26:41.two days. The men did three pieces yesterday, another three pieces
:26:42. > :26:47.today. Overnight, the British, well the England team were leading by six
:26:48. > :26:51.marks. It is a massive lead. It would have been strange for our
:26:52. > :26:55.gymnasts to have finished a competition, halfway through, go
:26:56. > :27:02.back to the village and go to bed knowing they have to get up and do
:27:03. > :27:06.three more. They have so much experience, it wouldn't have fazed
:27:07. > :27:10.It's early them. To say it, because the team competition isn't
:27:11. > :27:16.officially over, but the teams that are to come cannot challenge for
:27:17. > :27:20.that medal. England beat Scotland by ten marks. It was extraordinary.
:27:21. > :27:23.From a woman's perspective as well, England arrived with a similar
:27:24. > :27:27.dominance, even on the first two pieces. They had a mark-and-a-half
:27:28. > :27:31.lead. There was a few wobbles here and there, we still had that lead
:27:32. > :27:35.going into today. That gives them the confidence. Then we just have to
:27:36. > :27:39.keep clean and solid on beam and floor. Australia and Canada will be
:27:40. > :27:43.there to fight. Australia performed a lot better than they thought they
:27:44. > :27:45.would. Canada maybe were quite disappointed with their
:27:46. > :27:49.performances. The Australian women have put out a good score on bars to
:27:50. > :27:53.start with. They came to vault and it was all a little disappointing.
:27:54. > :27:59.Yeah, unfortunately, Lauren Mitchell who was first up for them has been
:28:00. > :28:03.trug unwilling training. She's -- struggling in training. Rather than
:28:04. > :28:07.risking injury, they decided to play it safe and do the straight. The
:28:08. > :28:10.other two were weak vaults. They are known primarily for their beam and
:28:11. > :28:14.floor. It will be interesting to see how it pans out today.
:28:15. > :28:18.Psychologically, how would it have affected you having that break
:28:19. > :28:25.overnight. Really two pieces to come out and do, especially vault, they
:28:26. > :28:29.were hardly in the arena? It is very strange. The only way you can relate
:28:30. > :28:35.to it is a World Cup. You do each piece at a time. Like Rebecca
:28:36. > :28:39.Downie, she doesn't have apparatus to warm up. It's just one piece
:28:40. > :28:47.today. For her it's just a case of keep the mind focussed. We have
:28:48. > :28:51.things to come. Is it enough of a mark that mark-and-a-half? If
:28:52. > :28:56.England can go clean on beam, then I'd say 100% yes. But we just have
:28:57. > :28:59.to take it step by step. That's the beauty of our sport, you never know
:29:00. > :29:03.what's going to As we happen. Said, there's still a few teams to come
:29:04. > :29:07.out on the men's side. They are running the women's and men's at the
:29:08. > :29:10.same time. Can you hear the cheer for a lot of the male gymnasts that
:29:11. > :29:18.are coming ou. There's a mixed group in there. Now it's time for Scotland
:29:19. > :29:25.to take to the Hydro arena. Listen to the roar as they come in. Let's
:29:26. > :29:30.talk about their competition. They don't have the difficulty, but they
:29:31. > :29:35.have the consistency. They don't, but they performed excellently
:29:36. > :29:40.yesterday. Their routines edon't have the high difficulty, but they
:29:41. > :29:50.performed it so cleanly that the judges didn't have anything to take
:29:51. > :29:54.off them. In -- White decided to come back
:29:55. > :29:59.here, and it's in Scotland, so why Such a not. Tentative piece of
:30:00. > :30:03.apparatus to start on, is beam and knowing that all eyes are going to
:30:04. > :30:09.be on them, that's goes quiet and they just focus on beam, is just the
:30:10. > :30:16.of a brick. I mean how is that going to feel? It helped fact that they
:30:17. > :30:20.were here yesterday, they did vault bars and got used to the atmosphere
:30:21. > :30:26.will be a little bit nervewracking going off on the beam today. I saw
:30:27. > :30:33.in the and they were so excited. They were loving the village antd in
:30:34. > :30:38.the gym, able to perform some of theirs. Vault, bars, beam, floor,
:30:39. > :30:43.order. Difficult is it to start beam? For was the most. It's ten
:30:44. > :30:44.centimetres wide It's not natural. Some of those, they beam.
:30:45. > :30:47.beam? For was the most. It's ten centimetres wide There the team from
:30:48. > :31:01.Malaysia that will be taking to their apparatus. Still it's all to
:31:02. > :31:06.play for. Going down the ranks, it's just a wonderful platform for these
:31:07. > :31:10.gymnasts to travel from all over the world here, it's world class. It is.
:31:11. > :31:13.We're using it for our World Championships next year. Can you see
:31:14. > :31:19.the state of the art facility it is. Like you say, even for those
:31:20. > :31:22.gymnasts that may not be the top of the sport, but this is their Olympic
:31:23. > :31:25.Games. This is the closest they're going to get to competing at that
:31:26. > :31:30.level. It's an amazing opportunity for them. It is indeed. Can you see
:31:31. > :31:33.the Scottish girls there just going through the final preparations for
:31:34. > :31:38.them. They all get just a few minutes just to get themselves
:31:39. > :31:46.accustomed to the apparatus. There's a lot of chalk marks on there as
:31:47. > :31:51.well. Nice Scottish blue nails there. The gymnasts all have their
:31:52. > :31:56.own marks on the beam. You're allowed to put a bit of a chalk mark
:31:57. > :31:59.so when they go for the all-important dismount at the end,
:32:00. > :32:12.there's no mistakes where they take off. It is four gymnasts and three
:32:13. > :32:18.performances count. They will move on to the final apparatus and it
:32:19. > :32:23.will be the competition over with and England will enter alongside New
:32:24. > :32:31.Zealand, and Canada and Australia. We are starting on the floor. It is
:32:32. > :32:38.Tan Ing first. First for Malaysia on the floor, Tan
:32:39. > :32:59.Ing. She opens with a double height. One
:33:00. > :33:08.mark away, it is a bit forward. Four in and recount. So as long as her
:33:09. > :33:17.team-mates go in without any misfortune, not too much damage, we
:33:18. > :33:23.hope. -- and three of them count. She has recovered well. It is
:33:24. > :33:29.unfortunate to miss the first tumble. It has to take the edge off
:33:30. > :34:36.her confidence. Cara Kennedy will kick off
:34:37. > :34:39.Scotland's third piece of apparatus. It goes quiet and all eyes are upon
:34:40. > :34:51.her. A local gymnast, the city of Glasgow
:34:52. > :34:59.club. It big moment for her. -- a big moment.
:35:00. > :35:20.A comfortable start. She goes to the court wheel well, she looks nervous.
:35:21. > :35:29.-- cartwheel. Everything going. I am sure she will do a good acrobatic
:35:30. > :35:34.series. Well negotiated. The gymnasts get difficulty for each
:35:35. > :35:43.move but if it is too slow and ponderous, the judges removed marks
:35:44. > :35:48.or execution. -- remove. -- for execution. The more confident the
:35:49. > :36:02.routine looks, the more you will score. She leaps comfortably. An
:36:03. > :36:08.elegant gymnast. Safely negotiated. She makes the dismount.
:36:09. > :36:19.First up, 16 years old. Didn't she cope well? She did, she could not
:36:20. > :36:25.get away fast enough. That was a great start for Scotland.
:36:26. > :36:31.Yeuh Tan Ing 11.3. That first humble proving very
:36:32. > :37:00.costly for Malaysia. -- tumble. 18 years old. This is important
:37:01. > :37:07.after having a fall on the first tumble, the pressure is on. The
:37:08. > :37:13.pressure is on and the next three have to count. A double height and
:37:14. > :37:25.she almost tipped forward but she did well to keep it under control. I
:37:26. > :37:33.have seen it so often and it is not only about tumbling. It is more the
:37:34. > :37:36.intricate details. With these domestic skills, the way you dance
:37:37. > :38:02.and the way you project, it is all-important. Not just tumbling.
:38:03. > :38:08.Problems with the first tumble so she will need to be secure. Nicely
:38:09. > :38:23.done. Elegant gymnast, smooth.
:38:24. > :38:57.mishap. Malaysia needed Her coach congratulates her. Four
:38:58. > :39:03.gymnasts will go up but just the top three scores will count and that is
:39:04. > :39:07.wide that performance was so crucial from Ellina Azmi. A good strong
:39:08. > :39:13.round. She did not lift up from Ellina Azmi. A good strong
:39:14. > :39:16.round. She did not lift enough to set the rotation and she had big
:39:17. > :39:21.steps forward which will be quite costly. A much happier seconds
:39:22. > :39:42.tumble, nice technique going forwards. -- second. Just waiting
:39:43. > :39:50.for her beam score. It is 11.5. The next gymnast for Scotland did well
:39:51. > :39:57.for Scotland yesterday. Regan. Very much show, an experienced
:39:58. > :40:08.competitor. Also from Glasgow. So on home ground. Very nice two reaps.
:40:09. > :40:16.Bonus points will be given for that. -- two leaps. A secure spin.
:40:17. > :40:26.Forwards, backwards, sideways. A backflip and a somersault. What a
:40:27. > :40:35.shame. She tried to correct something unnecessarily.
:40:36. > :40:42.She is very powerful. To do that from standing is very difficult. A
:40:43. > :41:08.strong cartwheel. A leap with a half turn. Spins,
:41:09. > :41:18.acrobatic moves all need to be included. Precise, double pike. Well
:41:19. > :41:23.done, she did very well to recover and not to sit down. She did. The
:41:24. > :41:36.major deduction was on her mind from before. Vital she did not give more
:41:37. > :41:48.away. Ellina Azmi schools in 11.8. -- scores.
:41:49. > :42:00.Her experience will come to the fore now. She has been injured and she
:42:01. > :42:02.was not sure if she would make the Games here. Malaysia need her now,
:42:03. > :42:41.Ang. Very high and confident. A double pike. A bit overcooked. But
:42:42. > :42:59.under control now. She just about made the double turn.
:43:00. > :43:08.Looking for more power through the flick. Into the doubletalk. Three
:43:09. > :43:19.tumbles and they have all been performed without error.
:43:20. > :43:30.Well done. That was very much needed. With enough difficulty,
:43:31. > :43:36.Chris? Yes, much better work. Good landings. She finished with a
:43:37. > :43:46.somersault. That is what you are required to have. Regan with a score
:43:47. > :43:49.of 11.6 for Scotland. Relief. Yes, she lost a mark so that was not a
:43:50. > :44:09.bad school. -- score. The 16-year-old. A nice
:44:10. > :44:17.straightforward mount. Nice height. She controls it.
:44:18. > :44:26.She is very powerful. Powerful and supple. A strong performer. That was
:44:27. > :44:54.a beautifully done walkover. A cartwheel. Packing in all the
:44:55. > :45:01.difficulty. Eight moves. The most difficult count. This is working
:45:02. > :45:08.really nicely and smoothly. This is a good level of work. She has
:45:09. > :45:13.fulfilled all those requirements. And you can see the tempo of the
:45:14. > :45:23.routine is quite good. She moves confidently. A backflip. 1.5 twist
:45:24. > :45:30.dismount, a nice routine. Not bad for the beam final perhaps.
:45:31. > :45:36.Absolutely. The marks have been hard to come by on the beam. They have
:45:37. > :45:48.been quite tight. But that was smooth. She has got a good quality.
:45:49. > :45:52.Tracie Ang scores 13.066. Your gymnast has the highest beam schools
:45:53. > :46:08.so far, Christine. I am pleased. I would be more ecstatic if she stayed
:46:09. > :46:13.there! She was a graceful gymnast yesterday so we are looking forward
:46:14. > :46:18.to seeing this routine. Abdul had a. You can be sure of grace and
:46:19. > :46:23.elegance. It is whether she has the power. Just to make the complete
:46:24. > :47:10.presentation. mat laysian women, the double pike
:47:11. > :47:11.was impressively done . Lots of expression in this
:47:12. > :47:31.routine. Here she goes again, two-and-a-half
:47:32. > :47:39.twists. Here she goes again, two-and-a-half
:47:40. > :47:44.Keep that leg high, nicely. Well, a good routine, and very elegant, and
:47:45. > :47:48.precise, good tumbling. And again, producing under extreme pressure
:47:49. > :47:50.knowing that her score will absolutely count. That was really
:47:51. > :47:51.very nice absolutely count. That was really
:47:52. > :48:14.well. Erin McLachlan scores 12. 6. absolutely count. That was really
:48:15. > :48:27.eights. Just short on difficulty. Emma White for Scotland. Interesting
:48:28. > :48:28.start there, interesting balance. This Emma's third Commonwealth
:48:29. > :48:46.Games. Oh, and that surprises me greatly,
:48:47. > :48:47.back flip, layout somersault. She's usually a very confident beam
:48:48. > :48:58.worker. Oh, hold onto it, Emma! She did.
:48:59. > :49:10.Once you've come off once, it's so Oh, hold onto it, Emma! She did.
:49:11. > :49:40.easily to be rattled. The free cart wheel, quite often the
:49:41. > :49:43.gymnasts find the acrobatic skills easier than the leaps and jumps,
:49:44. > :49:48.where you really have to commit to yourself. She's unlucky, the judges
:49:49. > :49:55.will think you didn't join those, you have to have two elements
:49:56. > :50:03.joined. Come on, concentrate hard. One-and-a-half twists, the dismount.
:50:04. > :50:07.She'll be disappointed with that. That routine, she did very well to
:50:08. > :50:12.keep focussed. Good job. Yeah, she accept it's.
:50:13. > :50:16.Doing their best to keep that consistency from yesterday. But
:50:17. > :50:21.perhaps that break overnight, it makes a difference. Because they
:50:22. > :50:27.were so consistent yesterday, the Scottish team.
:50:28. > :50:33.They now move over to beam. Then that will be their competition over
:50:34. > :50:36.with. She's confused by that score, I
:50:37. > :50:40.think. I think she would have expected to go a little bit higher
:50:41. > :50:42.than the gymnast who she followed. And that wasn't. They're very
:50:43. > :50:49.stringent with the rules. She's had a very good start to the
:50:50. > :51:06.competition and this was important. She looked in control. It was a
:51:07. > :51:12.surprise to see her fall off. Yes, it was. Emma's a good beam worker,
:51:13. > :51:16.usually. As I say, quite an experienced gymnast. But you know,
:51:17. > :51:26.when you've worked so hard for something, it's really easy to let
:51:27. > :51:33.that desire become too great. She's taken it in her stride and still has
:51:34. > :51:35.a performance to come, of course. Malaysia move to beam and Scotland
:51:36. > :51:46.to floor. Put the problem behind her did Emma.
:51:47. > :52:08.She produced a good, solid dismount. She did well. That extra half is a
:52:09. > :52:22.bit tricky to land because you can't see the floor.
:52:23. > :52:27.Just to refocus and prepare for floor. It's interesting this split,
:52:28. > :52:32.because we had the dynamic pieces yesterday with vault and pars and
:52:33. > :52:36.now -- bars and now you have the dancy style. So it's a completely
:52:37. > :52:41.different style of gymnastics. Yes, and the people who would be good on
:52:42. > :52:46.beam would be good on floor. They tend to go together and vault and
:52:47. > :52:52.bars much more the athletic, dynamic gymnasts. So it can change quite
:52:53. > :53:01.dramatically, really. We might find different teams coming to the floor,
:53:02. > :53:08.quite noticeably. -- coming to the fore, quite noticeably. No doubt the
:53:09. > :53:25.Scottish Willoughby want a -- women will want a go on floor.
:53:26. > :53:45.What does the beam have in store for the Malaysian team?
:53:46. > :53:55.The Scottish women warm up and get a feel for the floor. We've noticed
:53:56. > :53:59.the floor suited various different types of gymnasts. Some working the
:54:00. > :54:05.floor well, others having trouble with it.
:54:06. > :54:16.I think you'd expect good work from Abdul Hadi. She looked elegant on
:54:17. > :54:22.floor, she WAS elegant on floor. They had a poor time on bars. Their
:54:23. > :54:24.work was very nice, the skills, the individual skills, but they
:54:25. > :54:27.struggled to put complete routines together. She could be a good shout
:54:28. > :54:54.for the all around. I'm still undecided about this
:54:55. > :54:59.floor, whether or not it's a good colour. I feel it sucks you in. It's
:55:00. > :55:08.difficult to get a perspective when you're twisting and turning upside
:55:09. > :55:10.Downie, deep red. -- upside down. Yes gymnasts in red leotards, you
:55:11. > :55:29.couldn't see them against it. The Scottish team did well on vault,
:55:30. > :55:33.can we expect the same on floor? They are quite dynamic and they will
:55:34. > :55:38.have had time working on this bouncy floor. I think we can hope to see
:55:39. > :55:43.good work. Warm-up time will be over shortly.
:55:44. > :55:50.Hope they don't tire themselves out too much. The women competing on
:55:51. > :56:07.floor to music. Carly Smith will be the first to go for Scotland.
:56:08. > :56:18.Third gymnast in the team from the City of Glasgow club.
:56:19. > :56:22.Smoothly from the corner to the round-off, double pike. But she
:56:23. > :56:34.stepped really a big step out there. Better landing from the forwards,
:56:35. > :57:01.full twist. Very nice control on the double
:57:02. > :57:34.spin. She needs a big, confident final
:57:35. > :57:40.tumble. It looked like she'd landed. Disappointment then for Carly Smith.
:57:41. > :57:43.That's not how she wanted to end her Commonwealth experience. But she
:57:44. > :57:49.went for. That's the main thing. She did. It was a strange angle, we saw
:57:50. > :57:59.it from. She looked like she landed and just didn't lift the chest
:58:00. > :58:09.strongly enough. The choreographer, who works with the Scottish
:58:10. > :58:11.gymnasts, chatting it through. Abdul Hadi then, a chance to see what she
:58:12. > :58:26.can do on beam. little bobble. She looks as if this
:58:27. > :58:54.will be a good apparatus for her. Tried to get the head back and the
:58:55. > :59:10.heel up, but it almost pulled her off.
:59:11. > :59:38.All these little flutters will prove expensive.
:59:39. > :59:41.watch dismount. Out for her in the all-around competition. She will
:59:42. > :59:48.challenge. Little flutters, though. all-around competition. She will
:59:49. > :59:51.There were, little hesitations. But it was quite an
:59:52. > :59:58.There were, little hesitations. But She fought well. Carly Smith scores
:59:59. > :00:16.11. 566 for floor. Kennedy is the next gymnast up for
:00:17. > :00:41.Scotland. Very high, double pike somersault,
:00:42. > :01:51.very well landed as well. There was a time when we would see
:01:52. > :02:01.gymnasts standing long in the corner, a controlled spin. I can
:02:02. > :02:09.stand on two feet -- they can. A nice double twist. Much more
:02:10. > :02:13.successful routine. What a great competition she has had for
:02:14. > :02:18.Scotland. She certainly did not let the side down. 16 years old.
:02:19. > :02:29.Brimming with confidence and she really did go for that. Confident in
:02:30. > :02:37.that round. She is happier with that score. Each gymnast will have had a
:02:38. > :02:58.personal idea of what they would like to score. That was no doubt one
:02:59. > :03:15.of her aims. Malaysia now. Her first performance was safely through. A
:03:16. > :03:22.nice aerial cartwheel. A nice flip. That was a confident attempt but you
:03:23. > :03:25.have to go really strongly for it. That is a big challenge into the
:03:26. > :03:37.full turn. But a good attempt with the double
:03:38. > :04:12.turn. Very confident. her a while. She dropped away once.
:04:13. > :04:22.But she managed to conquer that Demon.
:04:23. > :04:30.We have seen it so many times, as soon as a gymnast falls off, they
:04:31. > :04:33.get back on and they go through with absolute confidence. She did not
:04:34. > :04:41.have a good time on the floor and what a shame and beam. When you work
:04:42. > :04:49.with rhythm, beam becomes easier. Cara Kennedy. Over eight for
:04:50. > :05:01.execution. Those landings were precise, very good. So Emma White. A
:05:02. > :05:07.lot of experience. She will want to do a good job here not just for her
:05:08. > :05:25.team but also for the crowd here and for everybody watching.
:05:26. > :05:41.A big double Arabian. She uses every centimetre.
:05:42. > :06:06.And she turns straight into the tumble, that is impressive. A good
:06:07. > :06:15.double height and she really made that landing. -- double height.
:06:16. > :06:38.Every bit of choreography worked. She needs to have enough energy for
:06:39. > :06:47.the big finish, the double twist. A mature performance. Dynamic tumbling
:06:48. > :06:53.and an entertaining dance. 20 of power. She got the balance just
:06:54. > :07:02.right between the essential elements and a good floor exercise -- plenty
:07:03. > :07:16.of power. How costly will that fall be for Tan Ing? Time is nearly up.
:07:17. > :07:23.For the Malaysia. -- for Malaysia. One last gymnasts left for them. --
:07:24. > :07:44.gymnast. The last gymnast onto beam for
:07:45. > :07:54.Malaysia. Quiet and controlled. A very acrobatic series. Aerial
:07:55. > :08:13.cartwheel. She finds herself standing on the deck.
:08:14. > :08:29.Two 360 degrees turns in a different format. -- degree.
:08:30. > :09:01.She has recovered again. She will be dwelling on that earlier... And you
:09:02. > :09:09.could see she skipped along the top of the beam. She missed the pace and
:09:10. > :09:18.she lost focus. That could have been nastier and it will be costly
:09:19. > :09:26.because she did not have a dismount. Wash it at the wrong end of the
:09:27. > :09:34.beam? -- was she. Yes, she just did not focus on the punch bet. -- bit.
:09:35. > :09:39.Very painful because that bit of apparatus is not forgiving. Emma
:09:40. > :09:48.White with a squall now. -- a squall. One gymnast to go for
:09:49. > :10:00.Scotland. -- a score. The team behind her as the rest of the arena.
:10:01. > :10:33.-- as the rest. Amy Regan will round off for Scotland.
:10:34. > :11:02.That is such a shame, she would have been wanting that.
:11:03. > :11:18.Lovely choreography. She skips into the next tumble. One half for count.
:11:19. > :11:25.2.5, she is going for broke here. -- one half will count.
:11:26. > :11:38.It pours. She needs to land well. -- one pause. She just about saved it.
:11:39. > :11:44.That was a great routine and I hope the deductions will not keep out of
:11:45. > :11:49.the four final. Moments of uncertainty but she did go for it
:11:50. > :11:57.and she knew she had to. She did not hold back. She had the job to do and
:11:58. > :12:03.she got hold of it. A very enjoyable for routine, she sold the routine. I
:12:04. > :12:09.have been impressed with the Scottish girls and the way they sell
:12:10. > :12:15.the routine to the audience. They all appreciate it is a team effort.
:12:16. > :12:26.In the truest sense of the world. -- the word. 10.3 per Tracie Ang. Two
:12:27. > :12:28.serious errors in the routine and I hope she is all right. One
:12:29. > :12:51.performance left. She needs a very safe and solid
:12:52. > :12:57.routine. Azmi. And the Malaysia and team have good attentional on the
:12:58. > :13:08.beam. -- Malaysia and team. A lovely walkover. They just allowed errors
:13:09. > :13:14.to creep in. This is the backflip and the layout. Well done. A slight
:13:15. > :13:29.hesitation. You have to take your head right
:13:30. > :13:35.back and lose sight of the beam. She had a good try. The car wheel, she
:13:36. > :13:47.just needs to recover the shoulders a bit quicker -- cartwheel. She is
:13:48. > :13:58.working confidently. She had a bit of a pause between things and it is
:13:59. > :14:07.the fluency the judges will deduct. Two jumps. Just about. The half pike
:14:08. > :14:13.jump was very low. She is in two minds about this. She has suddenly
:14:14. > :14:25.realised. She has missed a requirement. Good pike. And upheld a
:14:26. > :14:30.supine performance but a lot of good stuff. -- an uphill performance. She
:14:31. > :14:41.knew she had to hang on. She went through the acrobatic series. A
:14:42. > :14:48.little bit careful on the leaps. She really was careful.
:14:49. > :15:02.After she stopped halfway on the first approach, she produced the
:15:03. > :15:21.pike. Well done. She kept her focus. Amy Regan scored 12.8. A good score.
:15:22. > :15:35.Scotland have concluded their bid, as have Malaysia. Rotation down. The
:15:36. > :15:42.teams are standing by. They will do battle in the next round. Chris,
:15:43. > :15:48.what do you think of Scotland's effort? Not as solid as day one on
:15:49. > :15:57.the fault and bars, they were outstanding. They were more wobbly
:15:58. > :16:04.today. I think apparatus that encourages more error.
:16:05. > :16:20.Anticipation, from the English contingent.
:16:21. > :16:33.travel. 11. 266 was her reward, Azmi. So Wales at this point out in
:16:34. > :16:42.front. Scotland in second, South Africa in third, Singapore fourth
:16:43. > :16:48.and Malaysia in fifth. Scotland widening the gap. Would you have
:16:49. > :16:53.preferred to have started on floor and on to beam. I would have
:16:54. > :17:00.preferred the floor, with the atmosphere, you can feel it and they
:17:01. > :17:06.will have taken the adrenaline and even Amy at the end, she still had
:17:07. > :17:10.the power. This what is England have to do now, because they have got a
:17:11. > :17:14.mark and a half to play with. It is not a huge amount when you look at
:17:15. > :17:20.the deductions you can get on beam. As far as floor is concerned from a
:17:21. > :17:25.world champion's perspective, how do you contain that energy? It is
:17:26. > :17:29.difficult, once you're in that home crowd environment, you pick up on
:17:30. > :17:34.the adrenaline and you can actually hear the crowd and take their
:17:35. > :17:38.energy. You have to take a step back. Most of the England team are
:17:39. > :17:44.experienced and know what it is like to compete at a major Championships,
:17:45. > :17:49.I am sure we don't need to worry. Four of the five were in that
:17:50. > :17:54.European silver medal winning team. Yes and they're going to be coming
:17:55. > :18:01.out on to beam. But they have been performing well on beam. So fingers
:18:02. > :18:10.crossed. There are the list of British women. A word on Claudia
:18:11. > :18:15.Fragapane, who has been a real injection into the English and the
:18:16. > :18:19.British team. It is her first year on the international scene, she was
:18:20. > :18:23.injured last year, but she has brought new life to the team. Most
:18:24. > :18:27.of the members are experienced and having someone new, you forget the
:18:28. > :18:30.whole experience and how new it is and how exciting it is. That has
:18:31. > :18:36.brought it back to the England girls. They came in here yesterday
:18:37. > :18:41.with an incredible amount of belief and let's just hope that that
:18:42. > :18:51.continues here as the England girls take to the people. -- beam. Ruby
:18:52. > :19:01.Always a tough piece to start the for England.
:19:02. > :19:10.Always a tough piece to start the challenge on. Straight into the
:19:11. > :19:31.arena. She will be pleased to get that first leap series under way.
:19:32. > :19:47.The acrobatic series that all gymnasts have to include.
:19:48. > :20:04.That is the change leg ring, if the judges give it its full difficulty,
:20:05. > :20:11.it is an E. Essential she keeps focussed.
:20:12. > :20:25.A big dismount - double tuck. Oh, a scurry back. What a way to start a
:20:26. > :20:29.team effort. She was determined. And packed with difficulty in getting
:20:30. > :20:31.that score. That is what is going to win this for England. Yes, they
:20:32. > :20:36.can't afford to leave win this for England. Yes, they
:20:37. > :20:49.hope for the -- open for the other teams to attack them on. Britney
:20:50. > :20:59.Robertson for New Zealand now. She is based in Christchurch. One of
:21:00. > :21:01.younger members. 17 years old. A double tuck and she really did land
:21:02. > :22:17.that. The double pike with the foot out.
:22:18. > :22:23.You can see the red flag. A nice, gentle floor routine. A nice lyrical
:22:24. > :22:27.routine. She was well capable of it and could perform it, rather than
:22:28. > :22:44.just try and exist through it. But a couple of errors of steps out.
:22:45. > :23:06.12.566. They're being very tight on beam scores today. Anna Whelan now.
:23:07. > :23:19.An experienced gymnast. She moves smoothly.
:23:20. > :23:48.Packed with difficulty this routine. Oh, she needed all her experience to
:23:49. > :24:04.hold that! One big leap here. Was the foot
:24:05. > :24:25.right up to the head? She needs to nail the dismount. That
:24:26. > :24:30.was a big stutter forwards. Went all out for difficulty. Gripped on the
:24:31. > :24:37.best she could, but that dismount will be costy. And the judges really
:24:38. > :24:48.are on top of this. She struggled to keep it back, but she did. Well
:24:49. > :25:02.Australia will be watching this with interest. Brittany Robertson with
:25:03. > :25:07.12n't 958 -- 12.958. The nerves are showing, but the English women are
:25:08. > :25:13.battle through it. Little errors, but they both stayed on their feet.
:25:14. > :25:26.They both had problems with the dismount. Charlotte Sullivan from
:25:27. > :25:28.New Zealand. 16. She was suffering with an ankle problem yesterday on
:25:29. > :25:43.vault. She was very brave there. She won't hang around, straight into
:25:44. > :26:08.the tumble. An impressive start. She is really attacking well and
:26:09. > :27:04.looks confident. A double tuck, just a little skip
:27:05. > :27:05.back, but that was a nice floor exercise. Building nicely the New
:27:06. > :27:10.Zealand team. She obviously exercise. Building nicely the New
:27:11. > :27:14.lot of physio last night, work on her ankles and no sign of any
:27:15. > :27:20.problems there. Lovely height on the tumbles and the judges do even if
:27:21. > :27:28.you get around the double back, if it is a bit low, they will deduct.
:27:29. > :27:34.Hannah Whelan. She is probably aiming for a place in the beam
:27:35. > :27:44.final, but we will have to weight and see. Rebecca Downey now for
:27:45. > :27:51.England. This needs to be as clean as possible. Only working bars and
:27:52. > :27:54.beams, she was great on bars yesterday.
:27:55. > :28:06.Oh, she was off line right from the beginning. Oh, dear, now, what does
:28:07. > :28:10.this mean? She still has a lot of difficult work to do. She will have
:28:11. > :28:57.to try and pull the focus back. That was lovely. And the side
:28:58. > :29:10.somersault. She has got lovely range of movement and great power.
:29:11. > :29:18.Now the dismount, she needs to focus hard on. She does a double pike.
:29:19. > :29:23.Here we go - double pike and she made it just fine. Even with a mark
:29:24. > :29:28.deduction, I'm sure that score will count. Such huge difficulty packed
:29:29. > :29:33.in. Probably the front one was one of the moves she was least o'
:29:34. > :29:40.bothered about. I know she has had a sore foot. She is holding it up
:29:41. > :29:51.there actually. That was a brave, good performance. Get the ice on.
:29:52. > :29:59.Gosh, the story of ankle injuries for the England teams on both the
:30:00. > :30:07.men's and women's team. We are still waiting to hear what happened to Sam
:30:08. > :30:12.Oldham. He has had the MRI scan and the physios will be getting out the
:30:13. > :30:17.ankle book. That was much needed, the double pike at the end. She must
:30:18. > :30:23.have been in pain at the end. She had been struggling this week with a
:30:24. > :30:28.sore Achilles, the other she has had one snapped Achilles already. For
:30:29. > :30:34.something that caused the problem, you can see heels are well down. She
:30:35. > :30:48.couldn't recover it. She almost saved it, although she was miles
:30:49. > :30:55.off. Well she did a sterling job yesterday on bars. She came here and
:30:56. > :31:00.said, Chris, just do the two pieces of apparatus. We will just
:31:01. > :31:00.said, Chris, just do the two pieces wait and see if Australia can get
:31:01. > :31:15.through without any major deductions. It is going to be close.
:31:16. > :31:18.Claudia That was a very big score, the highest floor we have had --
:31:19. > :31:31.that was. Claudia Fragapane now for England.
:31:32. > :31:38.Her first year of senior competition. She needs to put all
:31:39. > :31:48.she has seen behind her and make sure she just attacked. -- attacks.
:31:49. > :32:02.Not an apparatus she is renowned for. At the European Championship,
:32:03. > :32:10.she did not work beam. That was well negotiated.
:32:11. > :32:21.Walkover, smooth your eyes on this. Does she jump
:32:22. > :32:23.with the head back? We get a full twisting back somersault. It is
:32:24. > :32:42.packed with difficulty. Very hazardous. Full twist. And she
:32:43. > :32:45.nails it. Tight in the middle. Since the European Championships, not so
:32:46. > :32:53.long ago, she has added a new dismount. Hold tight in the middle.
:32:54. > :33:00.So this is a new dismount. The first time she has repeated it. Double
:33:01. > :33:07.pike, not a problem! What a performance when it you need it. And
:33:08. > :33:13.it was needed. Very much so. Claudia Fragapane, just 16 years old. She
:33:14. > :33:20.was third in at a young age in the British Championships. -- at a
:33:21. > :33:24.younger age. When you look at the calibre in the British championship
:33:25. > :33:30.is, you can understand what a title that is. What a future Claudia
:33:31. > :33:35.Fragapane has. And what courage and determination to do what she did
:33:36. > :33:44.with the full twist somersault. Amazing work, a lot of difficulty. A
:33:45. > :33:50.sweep of the arms. Very determined. A lot of lovely work. Lots of
:33:51. > :34:03.difficulty. And look at this. A full twist. Rolling it round. Great
:34:04. > :34:14.stuff. And what a series to finish with. Double pike, cracking routine.
:34:15. > :34:22.All the England team can do is their very best at the moment. Australia
:34:23. > :34:26.are still to come in the next rotation so all they can do is lay
:34:27. > :34:32.down the gauntlet and hope. Absolutely. They are busy looking
:34:33. > :34:40.for that score, they know this is important. They will need it. They
:34:41. > :34:51.move on to five Mac are looking at the scoreboard. -- floor. Claudia
:34:52. > :35:02.now has to quickly recoup. Ready for the very big floor exercise. She
:35:03. > :35:07.should certainly get in to the beam final with that. She should do. One
:35:08. > :35:13.more piece to go for England. We will be back shortly for the
:35:14. > :35:24.final rotation, the floor. Good news for England from the
:35:25. > :35:33.shooting range because there have been two Gold medals. This is Daniel
:35:34. > :35:39.Rivers this afternoon. He is jumping about at the end! The 23-year-old
:35:40. > :35:48.from Didcot in his first Games. He already has a runs and he has
:35:49. > :35:52.upgraded it here. -- a bronze. He idolises Sir Bradley Wiggins, I
:35:53. > :35:56.understand. But he now has something Sir Bradley Wiggins does not have,
:35:57. > :36:04.in Commonwealth title. Well done to him. -- a Commonwealth. So two Gold
:36:05. > :36:10.medals for England at the shooting range on the last day of the
:36:11. > :36:15.shooting events. And you will have seen an English competitor
:36:16. > :36:20.disqualified this morning on the track. He collided with the
:36:21. > :36:24.Welshman. He was promoted to third and he qualified for the semifinals
:36:25. > :36:31.and Andrew Sergey's appeal has been turned down and he will not be
:36:32. > :36:36.competing in this championship. He has said, unbelievable decision, to
:36:37. > :36:43.allow things to stand. Good luck to team England and onto Z?rich for me.
:36:44. > :36:50.It is now back to the Hydro Arena. One more rotation. That is on the
:36:51. > :36:54.floor. We go back to our commentary team.
:36:55. > :37:05.So England are ahead of Wales, South Africa and Scotland. India 10th, the
:37:06. > :37:15.Isle of Man seven. Malta 12. -- seventh. Malta, 12. A very important
:37:16. > :37:28.score for Claudia Fragapane and the Englishwomen. On beam now. That is
:37:29. > :37:35.New Zealand. And England prepare for floor. It will come down to the
:37:36. > :37:39.wire. We have to wait for the end of the next rotation to see the
:37:40. > :37:46.placings but these are the gymnasts competing for England. Claudia
:37:47. > :37:52.Fragapane will go last so she has a breather after that extraordinary
:37:53. > :38:00.beam performance which has earned her a place in the final. Hannah
:38:01. > :38:12.Whelan starts off. And she walks into position. Four very important
:38:13. > :38:16.for routines for England. -- floor routines. She is renowned for great
:38:17. > :38:26.performance. That was a great twisting double back.
:38:27. > :38:32.She needs to focus and she has to be tight. 2.5 twists and it is lovely.
:38:33. > :39:24.A good landing. Very individual, her style. A good
:39:25. > :39:38.strong double pike. A little bounce out.
:39:39. > :39:50.Great opener for England. A secure landing. Mature, interesting dance.
:39:51. > :40:00.She has almost set the tempo. The rest of the England team has to
:40:01. > :40:06.follow. It feels good. So New Zealand, Brittany Robertson
:40:07. > :40:11.excepting the challenges of the beam. -- accepting. Very demanding
:40:12. > :40:28.apparatus. Walkover, nice and solid. Aerial cartwheel. Just about gets
:40:29. > :40:57.joined elements. Well done. Into the split leap.
:40:58. > :41:09.Really secure on the landing. Well done. Into the split leap.
:41:10. > :41:17.is absolutely determined to go through
:41:18. > :41:20.is absolutely determined to go necessary 360. This is a good
:41:21. > :41:32.opener. New Zealand, no doubt about it. 1.5 twists. Well done, indeed. A
:41:33. > :41:39.great start for New Zealand. Very good opening gymnast. A very
:41:40. > :41:43.successful junior when we had the junior Commonwealth Championships in
:41:44. > :41:52.the Isle of Man a couple of years ago, she was very successful. Hannah
:41:53. > :42:01.Whelan scores 13.7 for England. Nice to have that in the bank. Top score
:42:02. > :42:11.of the day so far. We will see her no doubt in the floor final. Kelly
:42:12. > :42:16.Simm now in the vault final, using all that power.
:42:17. > :42:19.Simm now in the vault final, using for this tumble. Without the five
:42:20. > :42:27.Mac pro area, that will be a costly for this tumble. Without the five
:42:28. > :42:47.experiment -- floor area. But she is so powerful. Double straight.
:42:48. > :43:11.Relatively simple, she kicks it out with ease.
:43:12. > :43:32.She needs to control this final tumble. Sky-high double pike. She
:43:33. > :43:45.does. We just have to hope, and I am sure
:43:46. > :43:53.we will see it on the replay, but she got input into the area and she
:43:54. > :43:56.did not land outside of the tape. But it was packed with difficulty. A
:43:57. > :44:05.wonderful performance. A very ambitious first tumble. A big
:44:06. > :44:14.combination. A full twisting double. 1.5 twists. She pulls hard through
:44:15. > :44:26.the flick. Did she hit the four as well? -- the floor. She did. That
:44:27. > :44:33.was expensive, one mark at least. And probably 0.54 outside the floor
:44:34. > :44:45.area. They definitely need the next two gymnasts to work faultlessly. --
:44:46. > :44:50.0.5 four outside. You cannot fall that for ability but you do it
:44:51. > :44:56.outside and you get nothing. -- you cannot criticise that. I have seen
:44:57. > :45:06.her in the gymnasium but the walk-out is quite tricky.
:45:07. > :45:22.A good steady routine. Brittany Robertson is comfortable. You see
:45:23. > :45:25.many different techniques at the feet have to land across the beam
:45:26. > :45:44.for it to be counted. Kelly Simm. A 1.3 penalty on execution. They
:45:45. > :46:10.will have been hoping for more from Kelly Simm. Ruby Harrold now.
:46:11. > :46:20.through it. A double-tuck Arabian. Dashing into the double twist. A
:46:21. > :46:32.good, attacking routine so far. Off she goes again. A full turn at
:46:33. > :47:01.the end of the one and a half. You can't miss a beat with this
:47:02. > :47:23.music and she is well in with it. Here we go! Double tuck - just the
:47:24. > :47:28.pace back. Ruby Harrold produced it when she needed to. A vital, vital
:47:29. > :47:33.routine for England and thank goodness for the team that she has
:47:34. > :47:37.got good brakes! Yes, brakes to stop her running out the area. That is
:47:38. > :47:41.one of the thins the team have worked -- things the team have
:47:42. > :47:45.worked on is not take such a long run into the tumble. So if they have
:47:46. > :47:57.to step out of the tumble, it is not out of the floor area as well.
:47:58. > :48:08.Charlotte Sullivan is next up to conquer the long piece of wood! Long
:48:09. > :48:39.and narrow! Now, gather and attack. Well done -
:48:40. > :49:05.two feet together on the landing. A good series.
:49:06. > :49:25.A tiny teeter to the side, but so far so good.
:49:26. > :49:34.Gather focus, set up the dismount - oh, got it in the end. Just about
:49:35. > :49:43.made the final twist. She did a good job for New Zealand on floor and she
:49:44. > :49:49.hasn't let the side down there. No, a nice fluent routine. She will have
:49:50. > :49:54.some reductions, some toes weren't properly pointed. They have had a
:49:55. > :50:08.good team talk over night. They have come out guns blazing. Ruby Harrold
:50:09. > :50:19.13. 466 for floor. Next up Claudia Fragapane. There she is. Preparing
:50:20. > :50:27.to impress in the hide droe row -- Hydro. Claudia also has a very
:50:28. > :50:53.ambitious first tumble. Straight back with another super
:50:54. > :51:22.difficult tumble - double straight, makes it look so easy.
:51:23. > :51:29.Such an interesting routine. Full of surprises. But this is a very
:51:30. > :51:45.difficult third tumble. A double Arabian, but she makes it look easy!
:51:46. > :51:55.Concentrate to the end, Claudia, she has! Absolutely first class! Claudia
:51:56. > :52:00.Fragapane - what a gymnast! Outrageously different and she got
:52:01. > :52:06.away with it. It was really well presented. Fantastic work from
:52:07. > :52:14.Claudia Fragapane. How important is she to the England team now? When we
:52:15. > :52:19.spoke about the men's time, we said Nile Wilson is a star in the making.
:52:20. > :52:25.This young lady is equally a star in the rising. Look at the intense
:52:26. > :52:29.focus you can understand why. A full twist and the double straight. That
:52:30. > :52:38.would make many a man tremble with fear and here she is, 17 years old
:52:39. > :52:47.really attacking it. That is superb. It wasn't over there! Every tumble
:52:48. > :52:54.attacked and nailed. Superb work. And a bit of break dancing thrown in
:52:55. > :53:02.for good measure! Absolutely, she is such a bubbly character, the routine
:53:03. > :53:16.suits her so perfectly. Charlotte Sullivan scores 12n't 766. --
:53:17. > :53:21.12.766. Wow, I'm still reeling from that, aren't you? I have worked --
:53:22. > :53:26.watched her train it a lot and she is consistent. But it was so
:53:27. > :53:32.different. It is, it is very different. She is coached by Helen
:53:33. > :53:36.Potter, who was Helen May of the James May, her brother was British
:53:37. > :53:41.champion and they run the gym in Bristol and she has a young coach
:53:42. > :53:49.who was at the Europeans with her. So it is a really good combination
:53:50. > :53:53.and she is so full of enthusiasm and dynamic penalty -- personality. What
:53:54. > :54:00.an all round gym you think she is going to be in the vault final. A
:54:01. > :54:03.14.733 will see her in the floor final and it goes without saying the
:54:04. > :54:06.rest of the England team so final and it goes without saying the
:54:07. > :54:11.appreciative of her presence. The way she put that routine together,
:54:12. > :54:14.it is ground-breaking. It set new self-s. She performed like that in
:54:15. > :54:22.the team final of Europeans, but self-s. She performed like that in
:54:23. > :54:25.apparatus finals she was weary and in the finals she didn't pull the
:54:26. > :54:30.landings off. But I am sure, in the finals she didn't pull the
:54:31. > :54:34.she will be a young gymnast who makes her mark at the next World
:54:35. > :54:40.Championships. No doubt about it. That is it, England can do more.
:54:41. > :54:47.They will just have to sit, wait and watch. Very intently. So England
:54:48. > :54:53.ahead of Wales by seven marks. Scotland are in third. South Africa,
:54:54. > :55:00.Singapore and then mails. -- Malaysia. England's women can do
:55:01. > :55:06.more. They must sit and watch and wait to see whether Canada or
:55:07. > :55:14.Australia over take them for gold. A nervous wait it will be. Beth
:55:15. > :55:19.Tweddle is there. Give us your reactions to the last two events. It
:55:20. > :55:27.was tough to start on beam and there was a couple of errors, but they
:55:28. > :55:31.fought back on floor and Claudia was fantastic. That is what the team
:55:32. > :55:39.needed. Did you realise the elements that he she was going to include. We
:55:40. > :55:46.heard them talking about them. She is a Pocket Dynamo. Yes, she was
:55:47. > :55:50.injured la year. At the Europeans everyone in the training gyms was
:55:51. > :55:55.stopping to watch her. You can see the full twist and double straight
:55:56. > :56:00.that most men would be gemmous of and she goes back into the double
:56:01. > :56:05.straight and she knows where every landing and then into the rund off
:56:06. > :56:12.and the double-pike. She just had so much energy and doesn't seem to run
:56:13. > :56:17.out. So much poise and I think she remind us of Vanessa Ferrari, she
:56:18. > :56:22.had that sort of presence. Yes and she has brought new energy to the
:56:23. > :56:25.team, because it is so new to her and she has brought something
:56:26. > :56:30.different. It is amazings to have her there. She does the double
:56:31. > :56:38.Arabian somer salt. That was one of your trade marks. Yes I did it first
:56:39. > :56:43.and Seth second, she does it third. Four go and three counting, that was
:56:44. > :56:48.a big score. Yes it is will be a massive thing for England. It is
:56:49. > :56:53.probably a mark and a half above what Australia can score on floor.
:56:54. > :56:57.So we will have to stay. Hopefully she has given England hope. It has
:56:58. > :57:06.been nervous today. You talk about a mark and a half and there was a mark
:57:07. > :57:10.gone when Becky Downie fell. Yes, England didn't have the greatest
:57:11. > :57:15.start on beam with Becky falling and Hannah had a few wobbles. But
:57:16. > :57:18.Claudia came up at the end and saved the day for England. They will be
:57:19. > :57:26.happy to have the pocket rocket on the team. 13.2 was Becky Downie's
:57:27. > :57:32.floor routine, so still a good mark. It looked like Shep had a problem
:57:33. > :57:37.with the ankle. What do you assess from that? She has been struggling
:57:38. > :57:43.with her feet and that is why they went for bars and beams. And they
:57:44. > :57:51.have the ice there. Hopefully we can get it cleared up for beam final. We
:57:52. > :57:55.understand that Claudia Fragapane is leading the overall standings. It
:57:56. > :57:59.was a big day. They know their performances count not just for this
:58:00. > :58:03.particular team vent, but for the individual all round and going
:58:04. > :58:07.through to the individual apparatus finals. So much riding on these
:58:08. > :58:12.performances. Yes qualification is always the hardest F you mess up on
:58:13. > :58:18.the first day, that is it. They will be nerve us knowing not only does it
:58:19. > :58:21.I count for the team medal, but for the individual and the apparatus
:58:22. > :58:25.final and each will have set themselves their own targets. They
:58:26. > :58:29.won't admit what they are, but they will have it in their little book.
:58:30. > :58:33.In a net shell, do you think England have done enough to win this gold or
:58:34. > :58:39.could Australia yet spring a surprise? I hope England have done
:58:40. > :58:45.enough. With that floor score at the end. That is -- that's trebled our
:58:46. > :58:49.chances. But we weren't sure what Australia would bring out yesterday
:58:50. > :58:53.and they performed above what we thought. And beam and floor are
:58:54. > :59:01.their strongest apparatus. We are coming back to you shortly on BBC
:59:02. > :59:06.Two. First a reminder of the headlines.
:59:07. > :59:13.England came out on top in the battle for gold in the men's
:59:14. > :59:20.gymnastic team final. Scotland landed silver. Their first ever
:59:21. > :59:32.podium finish in the competition. Dan Rivers won the 50 metre shooting
:59:33. > :59:38.and claimed their second medal of the day. Andrew Osagie has failed in
:59:39. > :59:45.his appeal in the disqualification after a collision with the Welshman
:59:46. > :59:51.Joe Thomas. His games are over. We are hopping over to BBC Two. But do
:59:52. > :59:59.join us again and we will hop back across the river to the Hydro. Have
:00:00. > :00:04.England's women done enough? We will soon find out. Goodbye.
