:03:09. > :03:11.them. 31 golds today, some won, some still to come tonight. Here are some
:03:12. > :03:23.names we are looking out for in the athletics. Jazz Carlin took golds

:04:52. > :04:55.semifinals tonight and the women's final. I think both of these races
:04:56. > :04:59.are shaping up to be very competitive. There is no of the
:05:00. > :05:06.welding favourite in the women's 400m, because Montsho is not in
:05:07. > :05:10.quite the shape she was in last year when she was in great shape but gave
:05:11. > :05:18.it away at the end to Christine Ohuruogu. She's not in that shape
:05:19. > :05:23.and the young Jamaican Christine Day is running really well. Montsho has

:05:28. > :05:30.that defeat last year that the Jamaicans will make it difficult.
:05:31. > :05:41.Then you have the men's 400m semifinal. The English guys looking
:05:42. > :05:46.really good. I expect that Michael Bingen and Rooney will get into this

:07:28. > :07:34.A tremendous week of swimming so far. Five world records, eight golds
:07:35. > :07:37.for England, three for Scotland, one for Wales and the chance of more to

:07:44. > :07:52.her seventh event tonight, and Jazz Carlin, of course. A gold medal last
:07:53. > :07:56.night. The crowd are excited. Later on the prospect of another Welsh
:07:57. > :08:02.gold medal. Do you think there is a chance of two Welsh gold medals
:08:03. > :08:07.tonight? I do not see why not. Jazz was looking a bit tired this morning
:08:08. > :08:12.but that is to be expected. And what about the men? It is exciting. The.
:08:13. > :08:23.With Jazz on the freestyle and then we could go into a second gold medal

:08:59. > :09:11.Adrian and Andy. COMMENTATOR: She took the pressure
:09:12. > :09:18.of a nation and won the gold, Hannah Miley of Scotland. Brittany MacLean
:09:19. > :09:24.took on the great Franklin in America this year. She was the
:09:25. > :09:32.American universities' Swimmer Of The Year. Bront? Barrett has got the
:09:33. > :09:43.fastest lifetime best on paper. She said it last year. Fairweather is
:09:44. > :09:50.relatively unknown but she was the world junior swimmer last year. You
:09:51. > :10:00.are right. Lauren Boyle looking focused. She is in Lane 4. The
:10:01. > :10:04.fastest qualifier. It is a tight to call. All sorts of emotions and
:10:05. > :10:09.psychology going on here. You have the youngsters wanting to have a go,
:10:10. > :10:14.Boyle, 26 years of age, probably her best chance of a gold medal. All of
:10:15. > :10:19.the faster ladies in this race were in the 800m freestyle final last
:10:20. > :10:24.night. How easy to come straight off that into this? Jazz Carlin this
:10:25. > :10:29.morning looked like she had been through the ringer. I hope she had a
:10:30. > :10:40.good sleep and reset herself. Her best time is 4.04. Third fastest on
:10:41. > :10:49.paper. Boyle is the second fastest. Jazz Carlin third.
:10:50. > :11:01.Very good start in deed from Barrett. Very quick off the blocks.
:11:02. > :11:04.Eight lengths of the scene. Jazz Carlin will be one name from the
:11:05. > :11:12.bottom of the picture when you see her above the water. She is in the
:11:13. > :11:16.white hat. She normally starts slowly and picks it up after the
:11:17. > :11:18.first two lengths. She was about half a second down off the block,
:11:19. > :11:28.which is unusual. At the top of the pool there you see
:11:29. > :11:34.Miley with the white cap and Barrett with the yellow cap.
:11:35. > :11:37.Lauren Boyle, with the black cap, has not started Charnley,
:11:38. > :11:54.surprising. -- not started strongly. Barrett is certainly fast. Very
:11:55. > :12:01.close indeed. Maclean second. Jazz Carlin third. Very interesting after
:12:02. > :12:02.that first 100m. I thought she would be a little further behind at the
:12:03. > :12:13.start. Had natural style is to breathe
:12:14. > :12:16.toward the camera but she breathes on the other side as well to keep an
:12:17. > :12:23.eye on what is going on on the field.
:12:24. > :12:31.The whole field is separated by just about half a second.
:12:32. > :12:43.At the bottom of the shot in the white cap with the green straps on
:12:44. > :12:44.her suit is Jazz Carlin. She did not look great this morning but she
:12:45. > :12:55.started reasonably well. I wonder whether she has made a move
:12:56. > :13:04.just that. Look at that. It is all to play for now. Boyle starting to
:13:05. > :13:09.push ahead. I am interested in Fairweather, the 17-year-old on the
:13:10. > :13:24.right-hand side of the yellow hats. As if by magic, still there also, up
:13:25. > :13:32.in lane number two is Hannah Miley. She has turned third. Only three
:13:33. > :13:34.lengths to go. Boyle has definitely made a move now, a very big move
:13:35. > :13:45.indeed. She has gone really early. Carling
:13:46. > :13:51.is looking over there, really digging in, trying to keep up.
:13:52. > :14:06.Fantastic, Boyle. Boyle turning first, Colin second, my third. Two
:14:07. > :14:16.lengths left. -- Jazz Carlin second, Hannah Miley third.
:14:17. > :14:23.I think it will be a bit much for Jazz. Lauren Boyle, that was a
:14:24. > :14:58.brilliant 300. The champion on the 400 is Lauren
:14:59. > :15:02.Boyle. Silver to Jazz Carlin and a bronze to Barrett of Australia, with
:15:03. > :15:09.Hannah Miley just in fourth position. That was so close. 19
:15:10. > :15:14.hundredths of a second. But no doubt about the champion, Lauren Boyle of
:15:15. > :15:19.New Zealand. A stunning race by Boyle. Great tactics. Similar to the
:15:20. > :15:23.800. She took her tactics to the whole field again here. Stayed with
:15:24. > :15:27.everybody, managed to pace it but she was a little bit down that first
:15:28. > :15:38.100m. Then she started to accelerate and by 200, that 200-300 was a big
:15:39. > :15:41.old move. Looks like Hannah Miley has broken a Scottish record for
:15:42. > :15:52.fourth place, just missing the bronze. It was Kaitlin catchy's
:15:53. > :15:55.Scottish record. What a great way for Hannah Miley to end the race. --
:15:56. > :16:14.Caitlin McClatchy. Weldon, Lauren. That is a tough
:16:15. > :16:16.race. 800 last night and then the 400 gold. A tough way round to
:16:17. > :16:24.delete. A great silver for Jazz Carlin to
:16:25. > :16:28.add to the gold she won on the 800 last night. A wonderful Scottish
:16:29. > :16:39.record for Hannah Miley. That is tough, 801 and 400 the next
:16:40. > :16:44.day. Yes, I could really feel the 800 this morning. But another
:16:45. > :16:50.medal, a silver medal. I wanted the goal but I will take the silver.
:16:51. > :16:57.Perhaps Lauren got herself to bed a bit earlier than you'd is. You had
:16:58. > :17:01.to enjoy your success. I had to do a drugs test and then I had dinner
:17:02. > :17:06.quite late. I could not ask for a better reception here. I seemed to
:17:07. > :17:10.finish on a high. A silver medal, I cannot complain. What are you going
:17:11. > :17:15.to do about training men? It is a bit in the air for you. I'm not too
:17:16. > :17:18.sure. I have to look at it over the next few months. It will be a tough
:17:19. > :17:31.decision. I just want to move forward on the way to Rio. Here are
:17:32. > :17:36.the big boys. The fastest men in water in the Commonwealth. Adam
:17:37. > :17:57.Brown could medal if he does a lifetime best. Roland Schoeman,
:17:58. > :18:15.silver four years ago. The sky, George Bovell, -- this guy, a very
:18:16. > :18:24.good sprinter. And the next guy out, Benjamin proud, he destroyed them
:18:25. > :18:31.all in the semifinal. His strength and power for one so
:18:32. > :18:50.young, just awesome. Keep an eye out for that. Here is Matthew Abood who
:18:51. > :18:58.stepped up oil in the semifinals. -- well. James Magnussen, he struts
:18:59. > :19:04.around, a real peacock. And right at the end, Radley Tandy, not many
:19:05. > :19:08.people have heard of him, but he warned that the American University
:19:09. > :19:16.championship, which is very difficult to do.
:19:17. > :19:22.Benjamin proud made it through as fastest qualifier, but he has
:19:23. > :19:29.Australians all over him like a rash. Hopefully he will come
:19:30. > :19:37.through. There are Mac of, the second fastest
:19:38. > :19:46.seed after the heat. -- there is McAvoy.
:19:47. > :19:58.A very quick start. Proud using a lot of the 15 metres underwater.
:19:59. > :20:06.Very good indeed, concentrating on the process, head down. But the
:20:07. > :20:18.Australians in two and five, has he got it? He has! A massive scalp, an
:20:19. > :20:25.enormous thing to do. To come and take the gold in the 50 freestyle,
:20:26. > :20:36.in this cauldron in Scotland, what a huge scalp. Proud, of England.
:20:37. > :20:46.England have dominated. Fran Halsall got the double, proud now has a
:20:47. > :20:56.double. And look at the start. His reaction to the gun. His arms are
:20:57. > :21:02.showing in the middle. Just a great hole in the water towards the end.
:21:03. > :21:15.Just showing in off, perfect finish. -- showing enough. You want to be
:21:16. > :21:21.leaning forward at the end. They will have a good battle over the
:21:22. > :21:30.next two Commonwealth Games. At least. That is just massive for
:21:31. > :21:37.us. Look at the size of that guy, just 19 years old. We have never had
:21:38. > :21:40.a great sprinter at Olympic Games. To go and do it like that is just
:21:41. > :21:57.stunning. How sensational. A double from Fran
:21:58. > :22:03.Halsall, and now one from you. It has been great.
:22:04. > :22:12.Did you expect that before you came here?
:22:13. > :22:19.After last night, well, it is a tough field. I am really happy with
:22:20. > :22:28.that. You have taken serious scalps.
:22:29. > :22:33.It is great to race against them. It just hit me, these guys have been
:22:34. > :22:41.around for ages. You have the ability to stay calm.
:22:42. > :22:46.Towards the end you are getting faster, whereas other sprinters were
:22:47. > :22:50.just hanging on. You and John obviously have a fantastic
:22:51. > :22:59.partnership. IM tensing up, and if, but as soon
:23:00. > :23:00.as you dive in, it takes over. They will be cheering in Plymouth. Well
:23:01. > :23:09.done. Let's have a reaction to that Sprint
:23:10. > :23:16.double. That was huge. He did it in the
:23:17. > :23:35.semifinal but the pressure is on in the final. It is very easy to over
:23:36. > :23:42.slip and over rev, but what a performance, and that was a big
:23:43. > :23:52.field. What is the record for England?
:23:53. > :23:55.I don't actually know. He is trying to find out. But I
:23:56. > :24:04.think we are definitely getting close.
:24:05. > :24:13.And a great performance from Jazz also, and Hannah Miley, a three
:24:14. > :24:19.second personal best, in her seventh event!
:24:20. > :24:32.Let's go to Andy Jamison for the medal ceremony.
:24:33. > :24:50.The bronze goes to Australia, Bront? Barrett. What a race that was. Very
:24:51. > :25:00.tough indeed to come back after last night, she set history last night,
:25:01. > :25:03.we have waited 40 years for a Welsh woman to win gold in the swimming
:25:04. > :25:32.pool and she did it in emphatic style. Now a silver. Jazz: Of Wales.
:25:33. > :25:47.-- Jazz Carlin. Boyle had that little bit more on
:25:48. > :25:56.the day. Fantastic to see. Laura and Boyle, New Zealand's first ever
:25:57. > :26:03.champion in this event. -- Lauren. Gold in the 400 metres freestyle.
:26:04. > :26:16.Sophie Pascoe took their previous gold medal in the para event. But
:26:17. > :26:22.she must be utterly delighted with a very good swim. Made a big move at
:26:23. > :26:41.the 250 mark, and that is where she wanted. -- won it. NEW ZEALAND
:26:42. > :27:55.NATIONAL ANTHEM PLAYS. 26-year-old, Lauren Boyle, taking
:27:56. > :28:05.the gold medal. Jazz: -- Carlin has a gold and silver. We will keep an
:28:06. > :28:09.eye on her in the distance races. A random fact, if you were wondering
:28:10. > :28:17.about the music at the beginning of the medal ceremony, it was specially
:28:18. > :28:22.composed for these Commonwealth Games. A really beautiful piece of
:28:23. > :28:30.music you hear just before they come out before the introductions. New
:28:31. > :28:37.Zealand, Canada, Australia, England, Wales, Scotland, always gold
:28:38. > :28:59.medals, and so now also South Africa. -- all winning. And Bert is
:29:00. > :29:05.with us now. What a reception you got.
:29:06. > :29:11.The people in Scotland have been unbelievable, really.
:29:12. > :29:22.Do you see what we have done here? Like when Chad finishes his races,
:29:23. > :29:28.we have made him look like Chad! How happy are you so far with Chad's
:29:29. > :29:34.performances? He could win more medals tonight.
:29:35. > :29:39.I am sure he is happy. Although he never really is, he applies pressure
:29:40. > :29:47.to himself. But we are over the moon. We came to see him swim, and
:29:48. > :29:57.he has done that. Have you got his gold medal though?
:29:58. > :30:02.But I gave it back to him! This is the moment. It was rather lovely.
:30:03. > :30:09.You don't often see gold-medallist to give their medals away to
:30:10. > :30:19.anybody. This is very romantic. And here are
:30:20. > :30:29.your other boys, Jordan and Justin. He is a beautiful boy, isn't it? He
:30:30. > :30:39.is! In fact, I think he is getting more beautiful. The whole thing is!
:30:40. > :30:45.It is unbelievable! And how are you, generally?
:30:46. > :30:52.It is a cliche to say, unbelievable, but it has been a whirlwind, really.
:30:53. > :31:04.They treat me like a superstar. I cannot believe it. The people do not
:31:05. > :31:13.treat me like an ordinary South African. I don't know, maybe it is
:31:14. > :31:19.because of the Games. Maybe they are always like this.
:31:20. > :31:31.And in a funny way it helped Chad take the pressure off, they are at
:31:32. > :31:37.having all the media attention! Messi the other day when Chad won
:31:38. > :31:49.the race, it was used tiny autographs in the stands! -- it was
:31:50. > :31:53.you signing autographs. Just a terrific Commonwealth Games
:31:54. > :31:58.the Jazz Carlin. We wish you well this evening in the final two
:31:59. > :32:04.events. Who have you got into night? The whole family. Did you have a
:32:05. > :32:09.chance... You know that Prince William and Prince Harry were here
:32:10. > :32:15.yesterday? Did you get introduced? I did not. That is the challenge you
:32:16. > :32:27.have left, I think. I have to meet them. Thanks, ladies. Scotland! Yes.
:32:28. > :32:31.Thank you very much. It just adds to the whole delight of swimming, and
:32:32. > :32:37.it is lovely to see Chad here. Thank you. It is lovely to see Chad here
:32:38. > :32:41.swimming so well because having come in under the radar, as one always
:32:42. > :32:48.says about new, young talent, not a lot of attention on him in London
:32:49. > :32:51.2012. Suddenly, now, is the equivalent of Michael Phelps, and
:32:52. > :32:55.he's responding really well. We will see Chad in action. He has the 200
:32:56. > :33:04.individual medley coming up after this, which is the women's 50m
:33:05. > :33:09.backstroke. Actor Andy. -- back to Andy.

:33:29. > :33:40.Snodgrass got a lifetime best in qualifying. This is going to be
:33:41. > :33:59.interesting. Biggin could win it. Yes, and it would be good for her to

:34:06. > :34:19.sets a Commonwealth record and British record to qualify for the
:34:20. > :34:25.final. Lizzie Simmonds is right on the outside. Let's hope she can
:34:26. > :34:31.concentrate on this. Probably a bit sort from a great 200 earlier. Right
:34:32. > :34:45.in the centre, I think the medals will go to three, four and five. 11
:34:46. > :34:56.one hundredths of a second split those three.
:34:57. > :35:12.George Davies has seen her team-mate get a medal.
:35:13. > :35:18.The final of the women's 50m backstroke. The fastest swimmer in
:35:19. > :35:26.the Commonwealth right in the centre.
:35:27. > :35:29.Davies has had a very good start. Simmons going well for England as
:35:30. > :35:43.well. Davis gets the gold. Quigley gets
:35:44. > :35:53.the silver. The wonderful swim from her. And is not -- and Snodgrass of
:35:54. > :36:05.Canada bronze. Brilliant. Two gold medals for Wales. That is a
:36:06. > :36:09.brilliant swim for Georgia Davis. To walk out against Emily Seebohm and
:36:10. > :36:24.get that medal, I am so pleased for her.
:36:25. > :36:31.27 .56, a new British record for Georgia Davis. She's only just
:36:32. > :36:43.outside the common wealth record, 27.51. A record for Lauren Quigley
:36:44. > :36:50.as well. British, Welsh, English records. Super swimming for Wales
:36:51. > :36:53.again. Two gold medals in two nights. We waited 40 years and
:36:54. > :37:07.suddenly two come along in two nights. Snodgrass gets the bronze by
:37:08. > :37:17.the 100th. Great for the 16-year-old from Scotland to get in fifth place.
:37:18. > :37:28.You know what they say, a bus doesn't come along and then we get
:37:29. > :37:33.two. I am so happy. The two of us have been battling away against each
:37:34. > :37:37.other all year. We have gone abroad and we are in the lane next to each
:37:38. > :37:43.other, and now we can stand on the podium next to each other. A British
:37:44. > :37:48.record, but in English record as well. I note you be disappointed
:37:49. > :37:52.earlier in the week. Yes. To finish on a medal, I couldn't ask for more.
:37:53. > :37:59.With Georgia next to me it is an honour. Wales are obviously jumping
:38:00. > :38:05.in the streets at home. What next for you? I'm doing Europeans so back
:38:06. > :38:08.to training, back in Loughborough tomorrow. And then maybe a little
:38:09. > :38:13.break but I don't want to stop swimming now, because I just want
:38:14. > :38:25.the fast times to keep coming. The frustrating things a little bit is
:38:26. > :38:29.that the 50m Patrick is not in the Olympics programme, so you will have
:38:30. > :38:36.to go for the 100. -- 50m backstroke. Yes, hopefully in two
:38:37. > :38:46.years time I will be there in Rio. Frankie.
:38:47. > :38:53.Brilliant, and so important. I am back. You are, in bird's seat.
:38:54. > :38:57.Particularly in sprinting, important to have someone pushing you on, but
:38:58. > :39:02.you are competing with strongly. If you have no one competitively to
:39:03. > :39:07.race, you have no one to push you and when it comes to any domestic
:39:08. > :39:11.competition new online. Then when you come up against international
:39:12. > :39:15.competition you freak out. So it is important that the more people we
:39:16. > :39:19.have been those events, they push each other on. That is why we have
:39:20. > :39:25.such a good standard of stroke. That is why historically with wacky,
:39:26. > :39:34.going back over the years, Jackie Willmott and... I think the
:39:35. > :39:40.interesting thing from Georgia and Lauren there, they smashed those
:39:41. > :39:45.records, and thus another gold medal for Wales as well, which means the
:39:46. > :39:51.much to her. Ben pride will get his medal, the ninth for England. The
:39:52. > :39:59.record is ten in the pools in Manchester. Nature athletics.
:40:00. > :40:04.Another full has here at Hampden for an evening of athletics. The first
:40:05. > :40:11.final tonight is the women's ten K. Let's join our commentators.
:40:12. > :40:17.The women's 10,000 metres final. The three Kenyan athletes have pulled
:40:18. > :40:24.away from a resolute British battle that has taken place between Beth
:40:25. > :40:33.Potter of Scotland and Kate of England.
:40:34. > :40:41.Kate Avery just behind Potter, trying to hang onto her. Potter led
:40:42. > :40:47.the race for period until the Kenyans really got moving. Kiplagat
:40:48. > :40:53.is the Kenyan champion. She is on the shoulder of Chebet, who finished
:40:54. > :40:59.third in the Kenyan Championships. They have now got to contest their
:41:00. > :41:10.own private battle. The Apple for fourth and fifth, Kate Avery has
:41:11. > :41:17.closed down on Beth. The crowd really has cheered them on. Beth's
:41:18. > :41:23.spell at the front really lifted the Hampden crowd. Avery getting ready
:41:24. > :41:26.to make her move as they come down into the finishing straight. The
:41:27. > :41:33.Kenyans are approaching two laps to go. Two world cross-country
:41:34. > :41:38.champions in first and second place. This is a different kind of race.
:41:39. > :41:42.This is a sprinters' race now. Kiplagat would have been the
:41:43. > :41:50.favourite going in here. She is the fastest here. But the race isn't
:41:51. > :41:54.sorted. The three medals, the rostrum, the podium, we know who is
:41:55. > :42:01.going to be on that. Which order, you would not like to bet at this
:42:02. > :42:09.moment. Before the race, you would have said Kiplagat. Now it is not so
:42:10. > :42:14.sure. Just over 600m to go for the three Kenyans. Kiplagat probably the
:42:15. > :42:21.stronger, but is she the quickest? Chepkirui on the outside has good
:42:22. > :42:26.1500m pace. More recent 1500m pace. Kate Avery, I saw her run a 1500
:42:27. > :42:31.recently before she knew she was into contest this. Look at Beth
:42:32. > :42:37.Potter. She is saying, no, I want to be the first British athlete home
:42:38. > :42:41.here. The crowd love that. They are watching that race as well as the
:42:42. > :42:45.race for gold, silver and bronze. They are approaching the belt.
:42:46. > :42:53.Kiplagat is looking at the screen. She knows she has company. Where is
:42:54. > :42:59.the sprinter among these three? They are all three class distance
:43:00. > :43:04.runners. They all run fast times on the country, on the roads, on the
:43:05. > :43:09.track. We are not sure about this. Who is the sprinter here? Who has
:43:10. > :43:13.the pace over the last part? Kiplagat looks like she is trying to
:43:14. > :43:18.control it but it looks like we're going to see an explosion of speed
:43:19. > :43:23.here. They are not going to run together. You would not dare trust
:43:24. > :43:28.rat. Duplicate is concentrating on the screen. She should concentrate
:43:29. > :43:35.on the race. There she goes. -- Kiplagat looks at the screen.
:43:36. > :43:41.Running wide round the bend. Once to make her team-mate go outside her.
:43:42. > :43:49.Chepkirui, has she got anything left in the home straight? Who will get
:43:50. > :43:57.the gold? Kiplagat running hard. Chepkirui might have the chance.
:43:58. > :44:07.Chepkirui gets the gold! Kiplagat also self over the line in vain. It
:44:08. > :44:12.is the Kenyan 1-2-3. Beth Potter stretching away from Kate Avery.
:44:13. > :44:21.They are having their own race here. Kate Avery picks it up again. Oh!
:44:22. > :44:24.Well, smiles from the two of them. These two have raced each other
:44:25. > :44:30.through their junior careers so much. They know each other so well.
:44:31. > :44:34.Contesting as hard as they can. I think they both have run a personal
:44:35. > :44:40.best, or close to a personal best. We will get the official times. I am
:44:41. > :44:46.not even sure who is fourth. They are looking up. It has been given to
:44:47. > :44:51.Kate Avery of England. She finished fourth. Beth Potter takes fifth
:44:52. > :44:57.place. Both of them running personal bests.
:44:58. > :45:06.Our guest is Denise Lewis set the trend last night with her green
:45:07. > :45:12.trousers and nine Paula has the message. And Michael Johnston did
:45:13. > :45:19.not get the colour metal at all. -- colour memo. A massive race. Not
:45:20. > :45:23.huge strength and depth. The Kenyans made it look like a walk in the park
:45:24. > :45:28.but that wonderful battle going on there, let's talk about that first,
:45:29. > :45:33.between Avery and Potter. Great to see. At the end we were all rooting
:45:34. > :45:39.for Beth Potter to hang on because she hadn't been brave enough earlier
:45:40. > :45:42.in the race to take it on. -- she had been brave enough earlier in the
:45:43. > :45:47.race to take it on, and that was a big step for her. She got a great
:45:48. > :45:51.reaction in the stadium. Nice to see them both at the end. Kate managed
:45:52. > :45:57.to keep her on the line but they both came out with personal bests. I
:45:58. > :46:04.am sure they relished the race. What an amazing reaction Beth Potter got
:46:05. > :46:11.there. We were going, no, do not do it on the line! Have we got the
:46:12. > :46:16.official result yet? A great finish. No room for friendship in sport.
:46:17. > :46:24.Michael, the reaction, the reception and the packed crowds? Yes, they are
:46:25. > :46:29.proud to host these games. They have put on a great show. Everyone is so
:46:30. > :46:34.friendly and welcoming. It has just been a fantastic opportunity for all
:46:35. > :46:38.of these athletes because we keep hearing everyone say the crowd has
:46:39. > :46:42.been so great. The Kenyans did have their own little battle going on and
:46:43. > :46:46.as easy as they made it look, it is always wonderful to see them race to
:46:47. > :46:52.the line, because that is why they are the champions they are. They
:46:53. > :46:55.would have come into this with two agendas, a Queen sweep of medals,
:46:56. > :47:00.they knew they were going to do that, and once they have made sure,
:47:01. > :47:05.then there was a lot of pride and ego at stake here. Kiplagat will not
:47:06. > :47:08.be happy that Chepkirui got her on the line, because she has paced for
:47:09. > :47:42.it in a They are running a marathon pace.
:47:43. > :47:46.They really were finishing fast and that is why we saw gaps open up in
:47:47. > :47:53.the last couple of kilometres when they put the foot to the floor. But
:47:54. > :48:03.great to see death take on that pace and say, you are not having all your
:48:04. > :48:07.own way. -- Beth. We will be back with more finals and
:48:08. > :48:20.Craig action for you later. But let's head back to clear.
:48:21. > :48:29.We have two English swimmers, one from Scotland, one from Wales. Who
:48:30. > :48:32.has the best chance? Dan Wallace looked incredible this
:48:33. > :48:57.morning and I really hope they can do it. It could be Chad Le Clos, but
:48:58. > :49:03.do not forget Fraser Holmes in lane eight.
:49:04. > :49:14.Joe Roebuck, a very interesting lane assignment for him, number two,
:49:15. > :49:25.right next to Chad Le Clos. Chad is in one. Fraser Holmes is out in
:49:26. > :49:38.eight. Dan Wallace, nobody will write him off a second. There is
:49:39. > :50:03.Sebastien Rousseau, team-mate of Wallace out in Florida. And look at
:50:04. > :50:08.this! Fantastic! Massive of -- ovation as he comes out in his
:50:09. > :50:44.kilt. Cornwallis, -- and the Wallace, won
:50:45. > :50:50.the 400 medley. He is all excited. The starter waiting for quiet.
:50:51. > :50:55.Daniel Wallace should not really do that and I hope the starter has a
:50:56. > :51:21.good sense of humour. The final of the men's 200 metres
:51:22. > :51:28.individual medley. One of the hardest races to call. The world
:51:29. > :51:36.champion and the 100 and 200 fly, look how quick he is going out. Chad
:51:37. > :51:44.Le Clos, and outstanding lead he will take into the backstroke. He is
:51:45. > :51:54.0.64 underneath the world record split. Right now, Chad Le Clos in
:51:55. > :51:59.the lead. His backstroke is very good, but his
:52:00. > :52:06.breaststroke is not. Interesting to see how much they catch up. Daniel
:52:07. > :52:18.Wallace is in last place but his strength is the rest/. --
:52:19. > :52:29.breaststroke. Rousseau, second, and now comes in Wallace. He is eating
:52:30. > :52:54.up the field! Coming through so strong, and the crowd are going not.
:52:55. > :53:03.-- nuts. Tranter, first to the term. It looks like it is Tranter at the
:53:04. > :53:10.moment. You can just see Chad Le Clos. Wallace is coming back and
:53:11. > :53:22.will not give up on the silver medal. He may get it. He has got it!
:53:23. > :53:32.Wonderful from Wallace. Goodness me, from last place to second! The
:53:33. > :53:48.bronze has gone to Chad Le Clos opt the top. And look at that! Tranter,
:53:49. > :53:55.the Australian team, and the crowd, that was a fantastic swim. He was
:53:56. > :54:06.the only man able to hold off Wallace. He retired from swimming in
:54:07. > :54:12.2011 after getting ill and came back after three months, thinking, I
:54:13. > :54:28.missed it, and he has got a gold medal.
:54:29. > :54:37.Let's not forget that Wallace got the gold and the 400, not a bad
:54:38. > :54:50.haul. Chad Le Clos, giving it everything opt opt, but Tranter,
:54:51. > :55:12.Braveheart in Australia! -- giving it everything up top.
:55:13. > :55:22.What a wonderful swim. Goodness me. A new games record for Daniel
:55:23. > :55:25.Tranter, a super silver for Wallace of Scotland, and the bronze going to
:55:26. > :55:40.Chad Le Clos. The crowd have been absolutely
:55:41. > :55:48.flawless. I will never forget that moment, walking out in my kilt. If
:55:49. > :56:00.somebody said to you, a gold and a silver, you would have taken that.
:56:01. > :56:03.If you told me I would win both a gold and a silver I would have
:56:04. > :56:13.called you a liar. It has been a fantastic week. Now back to the
:56:14. > :56:20.States? I will spend two weeks enjoying myself in Scotland then get
:56:21. > :56:25.back over to start hard work again. I am sure there will be some family
:56:26. > :56:31.dinners. I just want to say hello to all my brothers and sisters. I love
:56:32. > :56:38.you all. I do it for them. They are very proud of you. Well done.
:56:39. > :56:48.Family, very important to him, and this is his father, Derek. He cannot
:56:49. > :56:55.look! What a performance from Wallace, he came out in the kilt, he
:56:56. > :57:01.gave the full works, and you need to perform when you do that, and he
:57:02. > :57:08.did. And that was the response of his friends and family when the
:57:09. > :57:23.silver was confirmed. Before that, England took a gold medal with
:57:24. > :57:31.Benjamin Proud, he is the future. So many teenagers winning medals.
:57:32. > :57:35.What a class act. We saw Fran Halsall earlier in the week take a
:57:36. > :57:41.double, now this, absolutely incredible.
:57:42. > :57:55.And McAvoy and Magnussen, big names to beat. Big, big names. That is
:57:56. > :58:00.mightily impressive. We are proud of him. Tonight on the
:58:01. > :58:02.highlights I will be joined by many of our swimmers. But let's hand back
:58:03. > :58:23.to Gabby. It is the last night of swimming.
:58:24. > :58:49.Right here, it is the multi-event in focus, decathletes and athletes. --
:58:50. > :59:10.heptathletes. Ashley Bryant. Seven metres 56. This
:59:11. > :59:23.man might spoil the English party. A little rattled. That has been a very
:59:24. > :59:34.good day's work. Damian Warner, a long way clear. That is very
:59:35. > :59:42.significant, a huge personal best. Putting a bit more pressure on
:59:43. > :59:55.himself with that last failure. This event is now his to lose.
:59:56. > :00:07.So, the standings after eight events:
:00:08. > :00:17.a lead for Damian Warner which does not look as if it will be caught.
:00:18. > :00:24.The English guys doing all right. We will talk about it in a moment. But
:00:25. > :00:28.we will first go outside. There is a medal presentation about to happen,
:00:29. > :00:35.and Adam Gemili is about to receive his silver medal, which she claimed
:00:36. > :00:43.last night with a brilliant run in the 100 metres final. The joy has
:00:44. > :00:51.not left his face. It was a tight dip to the line. That smile will not
:00:52. > :00:56.have left him for 24 hours. He probably did not sleep last
:00:57. > :01:02.night. We met his mother who was beside herself, full of emotion, so
:01:03. > :01:10.proud. And rightly so. A first senior medal, brilliant.
:01:11. > :01:20.Of course, it will be the Jamaican national anthem that we here.
:01:21. > :01:23.Bailey-Cole took the gold for Jamaica. But what we said before the
:01:24. > :01:29.race was Bailey-Cole would have to penetrate the trio of Jamaican
:01:30. > :01:35.runners. They are without their leader, Usain Bolt, and he did very
:01:36. > :01:38.well to split them up. Absolutely. The Jamaicans are very confident
:01:39. > :01:43.right now, all the way down through the ranks and we saw that with
:01:44. > :01:47.Bailey-Cole, so those guys came here and they come here now with this
:01:48. > :01:51.attitude of, we're not supposed to be beaten. We're Jamaicans. For
:01:52. > :01:58.Gemili to get in there was a great encouragement.
:01:59. > :03:08.CHEERING AND APPLAUSE Kemar Bailey-Cole, winner of the 100m last
:03:09. > :03:12.night. Generally receiving his silver
:03:13. > :03:19.medal, his first at senior level, and it will spur him on, we hope.
:03:20. > :03:23.200m in the European Championships. That was his decision, to not run
:03:24. > :03:28.both offensive both championships. The right decision? Welcomer he will
:03:29. > :03:33.have to get some sleep because he has got the men's four x 100m relay
:03:34. > :03:37.in a few days time. He is such a great character. He is such a great
:03:38. > :03:43.character. I remember when I received my first Commonwealth
:03:44. > :03:48.middle. It is such a big deal. He is going to lap it up. Of course, two
:03:49. > :03:52.years ago, he made the decision he would give running a go and see how
:03:53. > :03:55.he got on. He qualified for the Olympics. I spoke to him but earlier
:03:56. > :03:59.this year and he said he did not realise at the time what a big deal
:04:00. > :04:02.that was. People were saying, well done, you have come down to the
:04:03. > :04:06.British Championships and qualified for the Olympics. He says he now
:04:07. > :04:16.gets it why it was so incredible at the time, the decision to no longer
:04:17. > :04:19.play football, which was his first sport, and all three of you will
:04:20. > :04:21.like this, he said, nobody realises how hard athletics is. I was trained
:04:22. > :04:25.to be a professional footballer. Athletics is the business. It is
:04:26. > :04:30.tough. We have to train hard, it is also a great sport. A reason why
:04:31. > :04:32.Adam is such an inspiration to so many young kids is he tried all
:04:33. > :04:34.different Adam is such an inspiration to so
:04:35. > :04:36.many young kids sports and chose the one that lit that passion in his
:04:37. > :04:38.heart and in which he was one that lit that passion in his
:04:39. > :04:43.heart and in which prepared to invest the most preparation and the
:04:44. > :04:47.hardest training. Absolutely, and that is what multisport events like
:04:48. > :04:52.the Commonwealth Games are so brilliant at doing, introducing a
:04:53. > :04:56.wide range of sports kids. What a great foundation athletics is the
:04:57. > :04:59.same many sports. Absolutely. Just the fact he tried different sports,
:05:00. > :05:05.because what we are seeing now is that kids are specialising so early.
:05:06. > :05:09.Too early? Absolutely. Two things happen, you missed out on the
:05:10. > :05:13.athletic element you get by playing multiple sports that also you may
:05:14. > :05:17.not find your real sport, the when you are truly passionate about. Some
:05:18. > :05:23.athletes are greedy and cannot pick for one so they go for ten. They are
:05:24. > :05:28.the deck athletes. Tonight we have the javelin and the final event, the
:05:29. > :05:33.1500m. They are already under way in the javelin. Let's find out how they
:05:34. > :05:39.are doing. COMMENTATOR: Yes, a little look back
:05:40. > :05:43.here to what we saw earlier. The penultimate event of the decathlon
:05:44. > :05:48.split into two groups. Warner has led from the beginning.
:05:49. > :05:55.This was his best throw, solid enough to retain the lead. Very
:05:56. > :06:01.close to the line there with his feet, but solid technique. And the
:06:02. > :06:07.bronze medallist from the World Championships last year looks as
:06:08. > :06:20.though set fair. Look at his feet, very close the line. It looks as
:06:21. > :06:28.though gold is close by. John Lane has been fantastic. However, this is
:06:29. > :06:32.his weakest event. Second round here. Second place after the pole
:06:33. > :06:42.vault. A very short approach, quite simple,
:06:43. > :06:50.just keeping it basic. A lifetime best coming into this was 51 metres.
:06:51. > :06:55.Hat off to John Lane. It looks as though he might have just bettered
:06:56. > :07:01.that. It probably won't be enough to keep him in contention for the
:07:02. > :07:06.medals, I'm saying with a wince, because he feels he deserves it.
:07:07. > :07:16.52.25 metres was a personal best for John. Now onto the track again for
:07:17. > :07:23.the men's 400m semifinals. Three races, the first two and three
:07:24. > :07:30.fastest losers make qualification. Rooney of England will be have
:07:31. > :07:36.delivered -- will have to be very much at his best.
:07:37. > :07:46.A new name from Granada. 22 years of age. Then the veteran. Forth in the
:07:47. > :08:06.Olympics. You would not expect the Canadian to
:08:07. > :08:12.figure too much. Inside him, Mitchell Davis from Dominica.
:08:13. > :08:17.Another youngster, 22 years of age. Outside of Mark Rooney, another
:08:18. > :08:30.three men who have got a chance with Rooney of getting into the top two.
:08:31. > :08:31.Solomon of Trinidad and Tobago. Seribe of Botswana and McDonald's of
:08:32. > :08:41.Jamaica. Chris Brown has been having another
:08:42. > :08:45.fantastic season at the age of 35. Second in the Glasgow Diamond league
:08:46. > :08:51.here a couple of weeks ago. In that race, Rooney was behind him, in
:08:52. > :08:58.fifth place. I'm interested in watching them at three of Botswana
:08:59. > :09:01.as well. See what he can do here. Solomon of Trinidad and debate
:09:02. > :09:08.recently run under 45 seconds. He's in the red outside Martyn Rooney.
:09:09. > :09:14.Solomon starts quickly in Game six. Rooney needs not to panic but he has
:09:15. > :09:31.to get in early. Has Solomon gone a bit too quick
:09:32. > :09:37.here? Rooney has to be strong around this top bend.
:09:38. > :09:45.Chris Brown comes through, Taplin comes through. Look at Mark Rooney!
:09:46. > :09:54.This is the sort of rent we have been wanting for Mark Rooney!
:09:55. > :10:00.Gliding through. 45.23. That is more like it. All of the talent that we
:10:01. > :10:07.saw in the Commonwealth Games all those years ago in 2006. It's going
:10:08. > :10:16.to be tough. He will be up against James in the final, I'm sure. He is
:10:17. > :10:21.in the next semifinal. A tough semi for Rooney. A good performance.
:10:22. > :10:24.Hamstring problems, all the injury problems in the past. He is a tall
:10:25. > :10:36.man. He is a tall man. He's towering over the rest. He ran 45.03 a few
:10:37. > :10:43.weeks back and we thought this was him getting back to his best. A wave
:10:44. > :10:48.of noise from the hand Park crowd. Looking around a little bit. This
:10:49. > :10:52.was such an impressive run from Martyn Rooney. Not only qualifying
:10:53. > :11:01.but saying, I am a big contender for the final. The accusation thrown at
:11:02. > :11:06.Rooney sometimes is that he can be a little bit lazy in terms of the
:11:07. > :11:09.first 200m, and leads to much to do. In his early career he had a lot of
:11:10. > :11:15.success coming through later in races but if you want to develop you
:11:16. > :11:20.have to commit a little bit more. He's just judging this race,
:11:21. > :11:25.educating his race better. This top bend was good. He could feel Taplin
:11:26. > :11:32.coming and Chris Brown coming. He did not panic. Now he is strong.
:11:33. > :11:38.This is what Rooney can do. If he's in contention... He's looking
:11:39. > :11:41.across, this relaxed. He knows he's going to qualify and this is exactly
:11:42. > :11:45.what he needs. This is one of the highest quality events in the
:11:46. > :11:52.Commonwealth Games and that was a top-quality performance from Rooney.
:11:53. > :11:59.Steve Cram calling it a top-quality performance. Yes, it was about
:12:00. > :12:05.staying relaxed and working hard coming around the bend. I was happy
:12:06. > :12:08.to execute it today. I felt confident and it showed. It
:12:09. > :12:13.certainly did. When you're on the start line, do you have a very
:12:14. > :12:19.specific plan you want to stick to? Do you go but how the body feels
:12:20. > :12:24.when you come off the start line? I have always had a plan, so at the
:12:25. > :12:29.moment I was just like, let's get round and enjoy it. I have to make
:12:30. > :12:34.sure I'm strong commitment district. That is my big strength. -- have to
:12:35. > :12:43.make strong coming down the home straight. That was the main thing. I
:12:44. > :12:47.was quite invest with myself! We have seen those sub 45 runs from you
:12:48. > :12:50.before, seen you in major finals before including the Olympics. Do
:12:51. > :12:58.you feel you are getting back to that position again crushed Yes. My
:12:59. > :13:04.time was very average but it was enough. All the best for the final.
:13:05. > :13:15.Thank you. What did you make of that, Michael?
:13:16. > :13:22.He could have run quicker. He starts looking around and he does keep
:13:23. > :13:26.himself safe, then goes a bit further and stopped to shut it down.
:13:27. > :13:30.You want to save all the energy you can for the final. In addition to
:13:31. > :13:36.his execution, which was very good on this race, he did get out well in
:13:37. > :13:41.the first 200m and then the keypad was 200 to two veg and 50m, where he
:13:42. > :13:45.backed off a little bit. It was a really good position to have the
:13:46. > :13:51.strong finish that he knows he has in him. You cannot run a fast 200
:13:52. > :13:55.and then follow it up with a really good finish unless you take a little
:13:56. > :14:01.bit of a break somewhere and he knew that. In addition to all of that,
:14:02. > :14:04.what I see attitude. I noticed it after the first round, his attitude
:14:05. > :14:09.is much different to we have seen in the past. A lot more and focused. He
:14:10. > :14:20.has a lot more belief in his talent. I have the talent, I should be
:14:21. > :14:24.there. That time, he said, was not that fast. He has to get that
:14:25. > :14:27.attitude. In the last couple of years, when he was not getting the
:14:28. > :14:31.best of himself, he seemed to be more emotional and fragile. You did
:14:32. > :14:39.not sense he really believed in himself. You can tell a lot from
:14:40. > :14:41.athletes' interviews. With him, it is his frankness. It is brilliant to
:14:42. > :14:43.see the is his frankness. It is brilliant to
:14:44. > :14:48.see maturity and that is what sometimes injury does. It makes you
:14:49. > :14:53.take a new perspective on your sport. Almost time for the second
:14:54. > :14:57.semifinal. Michael Bingham of England. James before that, the
:14:58. > :15:01.Olympic champion. He was beaten in the World Championships last year by
:15:02. > :15:08.Sean merit but he is not here in Glasgow. Let's find out how he kept
:15:09. > :15:18.on in the semifinal, with Andrew Cotter.
:15:19. > :15:34.Barnaby goes for Canada, the Canadian champion in lane three.
:15:35. > :15:57.Here is Kirani James, his dramatic folding in Moscow last year, well, I
:15:58. > :16:04.think that's forgotten now. He's been very, very impressive this
:16:05. > :16:07.season. Let us not forget he was an 18-year-old champion, then the
:16:08. > :16:19.Olympic champion. Outside him Michael Bingham goes.
:16:20. > :16:29.Two go through automatically. Away they go. A few flash bulbs
:16:30. > :16:33.crackle in the Glasgow evening. Fairly even at the moment. Then
:16:34. > :16:37.Kirani James, watch him with that leaning forward, lowing style,
:16:38. > :16:41.devouring the back straight. Michael Bingham holding him off at the
:16:42. > :16:45.moment. The man making the biggest impact is Van Niekerk, the South
:16:46. > :16:51.African, in lane two. He's getting up alongside James. Will James start
:16:52. > :16:57.to turn it on? Bingham running well. Van Niekerk setting the pace. James
:16:58. > :17:01.just starting to force his way back into it to assert his authority.
:17:02. > :17:09.Also running well, Quow of Trinidad and Tobago. Kirani James now able to
:17:10. > :17:14.look around. Running strongly. Kirani James with Van Niekerk, who
:17:15. > :17:21.holds on, then Quow and Bingham run out of it for the automatic places
:17:22. > :17:29.two. Fastest losers will go through over the races. A tough heat for
:17:30. > :17:33.Michael Bingham not just because Kirani James in that but Quow coming
:17:34. > :17:36.back into good form. One of the finds of the season, he's not
:17:37. > :17:44.running quite as well as he was earlier on. I saw Van Niekerk run
:17:45. > :17:54.against Leshawn Merritt and give him a square. He's got good pace. Look
:17:55. > :17:58.at James, looking around, just jogging down the home straight here.
:17:59. > :18:02.Van Niekerk in lane two, just trying to maintain. At least he doesn't
:18:03. > :18:07.look across. He concentrates on running to the line. Quow doesn't
:18:08. > :18:47.quite catch him. He looks across, but the South African takes second
:18:48. > :18:49.behind a very easy Kirani James I wonder who Michael Johnson thought
:18:50. > :18:51.of that, pretty impressive? Yeah, it was impressive. This is about what
:18:52. > :18:52.we expected from James. He's the class of the field. He's a fantastic
:18:53. > :18:53.athlete, sub-44-second 400 metre runner At some point he has to start
:18:54. > :18:56.develop power. He has great endurance he's very strong. He has
:18:57. > :18:58.the long stride, but he doesn't have power. I wonder if he's ever going
:18:59. > :19:02.to get that or develop that with his coach. I believe he could be a world
:19:03. > :19:04.record holder in the likes of Butch Reynolds, who held the record before
:19:05. > :19:07.I broke it. You see this long, lowing stride, opening up his leg
:19:08. > :19:11.here, you see he's opening up and reaching with the stride. He gets
:19:12. > :19:20.more ground per step, but not as much power. Power equals speed. He's
:19:21. > :19:26.a sub-44 second 400m runner. He could be a world record holder As
:19:27. > :19:32.the world record holder I would like to see somebody break it someday. I
:19:33. > :19:36.know it sounds strange. I love this kid because he's such a fantastic
:19:37. > :19:42.athlete. I think his chances here, I don't think anyone going to be able
:19:43. > :19:59.to get close to him. He's already ran under 44 seconds this year. I
:20:00. > :20:12.don't see anyone able to stay with him. Long, lowing stride, again, not
:20:13. > :20:17.power. That's just covering a lot of distance. He's about 6'3", very tall
:20:18. > :20:19.and rangy. A little bit ragged sometimes at the end of the race.
:20:20. > :20:24.Here he's holding it together. But this is another problem he's had in
:20:25. > :20:28.some other races in the past. We shall see if anyone can push him
:20:29. > :20:55.close in the final. Medal. Only the 1500 metres to go.
:20:56. > :21:03.He's gone ahead of Lane in that throw. Felix similar throw in the
:21:04. > :21:08.first round. Good commitment there. Just collapsed slightly on the left
:21:09. > :21:17.side. The only thing to hurt now is the 1500 metres. He might need the
:21:18. > :21:22.best of your life if you want a Silver Medal. Warren looks as though
:21:23. > :21:39.-- Warner looks as though gold is wrapped up. This is the heptathlon.
:21:40. > :21:48.This is the favourite to Take this title.
:21:49. > :21:56.The only real contender is Zelinka. She pushes off the left foot and
:21:57. > :22:09.switches feet. Many thought that Zelinka might go
:22:10. > :22:19.into the lead overnight. She is a better shot putter.
:22:20. > :22:32.That looks about the same as Theisen-Eaton. She's having a pretty
:22:33. > :22:36.solid first day. She's a 50-metre shot putter at her best. She's shy
:22:37. > :22:39.of that. It looks as though the battle is
:22:40. > :23:05.going to be between the two Canadians though.
:23:06. > :23:12.We move on to the third and final semifinal. Levine going for England
:23:13. > :23:17.in this, though his chances of getting through here are slim, let's
:23:18. > :23:21.say. Michael Robertson of Canada in lane one. Nigel would have to run
:23:22. > :23:26.much better than he has been running so far this season and better than
:23:27. > :23:36.he did to qualify as the fastest loser for this semifinal. Outside
:23:37. > :23:39.him Makwala. Only quauny James has -- Kirani James has run quicker than
:23:40. > :23:55.him. Quick look at Makwala there. He has
:23:56. > :24:00.great 200 metre pace as well. He's now the Botswanan record holder, the
:24:01. > :24:20.African record holding at Makwala. Williams has gone off
:24:21. > :24:26.quickly. Gordon from Trinidad and Tobago, trying to stay with the
:24:27. > :24:32.pace. George is outside him in lane six. Solomon, the young Australian,
:24:33. > :24:37.lane seven, he pulls up. Levine going quite well in lane two. The
:24:38. > :24:41.race is happening ahead of him. Makwala now asserting his authority
:24:42. > :24:46.into the home straight. Followed by Williams. Gordon has to do work here
:24:47. > :24:50.to get here. Makwala working quite hard. Here they come, Gordon, the
:24:51. > :24:56.Olympic bronze medallist storming through. Makwala with a time of 45.
:24:57. > :25:01.37 might not have qualified for the final. We'll wait for that to come
:25:02. > :25:04.up. He went hard around the top bend for me. Looked as though he was
:25:05. > :25:08.going to move away in the home straight. He's been doing well all
:25:09. > :25:16.season. The fastest loser times, before this race were 45. 47 for
:25:17. > :25:24.Quow, 45. 55 for Brown and that means that Makwala is out. Times
:25:25. > :25:26.have come up on the board by 0. 002 he cannot make it through as the
:25:27. > :25:39.fastest loser. Here he looked to be in control, in
:25:40. > :25:45.a fine position off the bend. But just didn't have it over the final
:25:46. > :25:49.80 metres or so. Instead, just outside him Williams and Gordon, it
:25:50. > :25:53.was a fantastic finish. He was looking around, starting to panic a
:25:54. > :25:58.bit. He had nothing else to give. That time will not see him through.
:25:59. > :26:02.It is those two who go through automatically. I'm interested on
:26:03. > :26:07.Michael Johnson's view, did he overtook that round the bend?
:26:08. > :26:11.MICHAEL JOHNSON: At about 180 metres into the race, he didn't really get
:26:12. > :26:16.out that hard and didn't realise that he had work to do. I believe
:26:17. > :26:20.so, just starting at about 180 metres, he turned it on. You can
:26:21. > :26:23.turn it on, if you feel that you didn't do what you needed to do in
:26:24. > :26:27.the first part of the race, but you have to be a little bit smoother
:26:28. > :26:31.with it. You can see now, he's giving a lot of effort around the
:26:32. > :26:35.bend. It started before this. He's positioned himself well, now, coming
:26:36. > :26:38.off this bend. But he, you know, whatever you do in the beginning of
:26:39. > :26:44.the race, it's going to take its toll at end of the race. It starts
:26:45. > :26:48.to take its toll much later. Gordon was always going to - in the red,
:26:49. > :26:53.tall figure, bronze medallist from the Olympics - he was always going
:26:54. > :26:56.to be coming strong at the end. But, Steve, I think you said something
:26:57. > :27:01.earlier in the week, sometimes when the athletes run really fast times
:27:02. > :27:07.at home, you put a red flag by that. He ran his 44 seconds and the 19
:27:08. > :27:10.seconds at home earlier this year. I'm not sure he's ever going to be
:27:11. > :27:14.able to live up to those times again. There's Levine, always was
:27:15. > :27:19.going to be tough for him. This was a tough heat from the very
:27:20. > :27:26.beginning. I'm just not sure that he has the speed for this event. He's
:27:27. > :27:28.got great technique, as you can see there. That's a plus for the 400m
:27:29. > :27:32.because efficiency is extremely important when you're sprinting for
:27:33. > :27:36.400m. If you can tell, it looks like he's running the same speed the
:27:37. > :27:39.entire time, you haven't seen any differences here. That's a problem.
:27:40. > :27:43.If you can't turn it on and have that burst of acceleration, when you
:27:44. > :27:51.need it, then it's always going to be tough for you, for the 400m.
:27:52. > :28:10.Nigel Levine finished in fifth place. 46. 57. Let's tidy that up:
:28:11. > :28:22.Let's look at the eight men who will contest the final:
:28:23. > :28:30.With Makwala gone now, yes Gordon is coming back into form. Van Niekerk
:28:31. > :28:33.is a new name, Rooney. He'll be thinking he has a chance here of a
:28:34. > :28:47.medal. Should do as well. Triple jump. Laura Samuel of
:28:48. > :28:55.England. A world junior Silver Medallist in the past. Wow, that's
:28:56. > :29:01.big. Laura Samuel came into this
:29:02. > :29:06.competition with a lifetime best of 13. 75. I think she's just smashed
:29:07. > :29:11.that. This is the second round. Good
:29:12. > :29:19.balance through the hop there, like that. Get out of the step well. Kept
:29:20. > :29:23.her speed through the transition. She looks pleased with that. Look at
:29:24. > :29:39.that! A lifetime best. Alexander looks as though she's
:29:40. > :29:48.similar. This was a look back actually. This is what happened
:29:49. > :29:55.earlier. 14. 15 is her best. Commonwealth Silver Medallist. Very
:29:56. > :30:03.excited though for Laura Samuel. What a wonderful performance.
:30:04. > :30:09.Alexander shy of the best of Laura Samuel.
:30:10. > :30:14.That left Kimberly Williams. This is the pre-event favourite, a
:30:15. > :30:21.huge medal favourite. She saved her best to the last
:30:22. > :30:26.round. So three jumps beyond 14 metres.
:30:27. > :30:36.And that actually did conclude the competition. Laura Samuel then with
:30:37. > :30:53.that jump from earlier was a Silver Medallist. Fantastic stuff. We just
:30:54. > :31:00.the gold medallist, Williams. Williams, 14.59 this year. Shy of
:31:01. > :31:07.that. Didn't need anywhere near best. 14.21. Gold for Jamaica. So
:31:08. > :31:13.confirmation, there, that silver medal for Laura Samuel. The personal
:31:14. > :31:20.best. First time ever be on 40 metres, but called for Kimberly
:31:21. > :31:22.Williams of Jamaica. That is what you want, a huge
:31:23. > :31:27.Williams of Jamaica. That is what you lifetime best on
:31:28. > :31:31.the biggest stage of your career, and Laura did that to claim the
:31:32. > :31:39.silver medal. It is one that got him hollering, Denise. Yes, it is my
:31:40. > :31:43.former club, Birchfield Harriers. You want athletes coming into these
:31:44. > :31:49.championships raising their game and she has done it. A personal best,
:31:50. > :31:53.very surprising, and it's brilliant. The Jamaican was the absolute
:31:54. > :31:57.favourite going into it but it was quite open belief about, and there
:31:58. > :32:04.for the taking. Be standard in triple jumping has not been very
:32:05. > :32:07.good this year. One or two athletes, but you can only compete with the
:32:08. > :32:13.competition you have, and you have to seize the opportunities when they
:32:14. > :32:20.are there, and they have done that. It was this stage where one of your
:32:21. > :32:28.big first Commonwealth medals came, Paula. It can inspire you. Seeing
:32:29. > :32:31.somebody like Laura go out there and perform like that today it will
:32:32. > :32:37.inspire so many others watching back in the Village and also inspire kids
:32:38. > :32:45.at home to go out and try it. Can you be a Commonwealth medallist?
:32:46. > :34:06.STUDIO: Weldon to the winner, Williams of Jamaica, and a brilliant
:34:07. > :34:13.silver for England. Next on the track is the women's
:34:14. > :34:20.400m, an event we have seen so many brilliant jewels in over the years
:34:21. > :34:25.between Montsho and our own Christine Ohuruogu. She's not here
:34:26. > :34:29.this time. She is having an easier year. Last year was definitely not
:34:30. > :34:34.that. She was having the form of her life and produced one of the
:34:35. > :34:39.finishes of any race anywhere. I never get tired of seeing this. You
:34:40. > :34:44.are willing Montsho to run, look around you, but he would not change
:34:45. > :34:49.the result. Christine, new British record, new personal best, and one
:34:50. > :34:55.of the best performances I've seen from her. Just grit, determination,
:34:56. > :34:58.after setbacks and a great ambassador for our sport. She is
:34:59. > :35:03.here with the relay but there is Montsho, running as an individual in
:35:04. > :35:09.this event. Not quite at her very best this year, understandably. Yes,
:35:10. > :35:16.and I would expect that this year she would want to come back and make
:35:17. > :35:22.sure she secures an number one world ranking. I'm not sure if maybe she
:35:23. > :35:28.had some setbacks or something this year. She will have a tough time.
:35:29. > :35:32.She is in Lane 6 and all three of the Jamaicans are lined up behind
:35:33. > :35:35.her and they have been having a fantastic championships so far.
:35:36. > :35:45.Christine Davies having a great Championships. She has been
:35:46. > :35:48.phenomenal throughout the round. I think that they have got a little
:35:49. > :35:55.bit to say. I think they have heard about Montsho and what happened last
:35:56. > :36:01.year. And what she is trying to do here at these championships. They
:36:02. > :36:05.have something to say about it. A strong field. Andrew Cotter is your
:36:06. > :36:13.commentator. COMMENTATOR: Kelly Massey from England. Then this trio
:36:14. > :36:21.from Jamaica. Christine Day, Novlene Williams-Mills useful. Stephanie
:36:22. > :36:37.McPherson. And then the reigning champion Amantle Montsho from
:36:38. > :36:41.Botswana. Abugan from Nigeria. We thought some of her team-mates might
:36:42. > :36:52.make it through that she's on her own. And Alexander from St Vincent
:36:53. > :36:55.and the Grenadines. We didn't need a standard-bearer for that small
:36:56. > :36:59.country for a few years now. There is Kelly Massey. A hard road to get
:37:00. > :37:07.here. She had to find a good personal best to fight her way
:37:08. > :37:14.through. A wonderful stage for this Sale Harrier.
:37:15. > :37:35.Away they go and here comes the noise from Hampton. But I'm not
:37:36. > :37:38.sure, as Michael Johnson was saying, she is blind to the Jamaicans who
:37:39. > :37:48.will hunt her down. There is that wave of yellow shirts
:37:49. > :38:12.chasing her down the back straight. Surely between these two unless
:38:13. > :38:22.McPherson gets here as well. Stephanie McPherson coming through.
:38:23. > :38:32.She is the Commonwealth champion! Day for bronze. Williams-Mills
:38:33. > :38:36.second. The champion is Stephanie McPherson, who timed it to
:38:37. > :38:40.perfection. We were having a discussion, not sure you were part
:38:41. > :38:44.of it, Andrew, this afternoon, and quite a few of us thought this young
:38:45. > :38:49.lady could win the gold medal but it was all about judging it right. If
:38:50. > :38:53.you wind the clock back all the way to 2007, Notley Williams-Mills
:38:54. > :38:58.attack so hard and was run down by Christine Ohuruogu in the World
:38:59. > :39:02.Championship final. I think she is someone here because Montsho is
:39:03. > :39:06.outside and Montsho went out like the old Amantle Montsho, that this
:39:07. > :39:11.is not the old Amantle Montsho. She has not been so involved this year.
:39:12. > :39:16.Attacking so hard in the first 200m. She takes Williams-Mills with her.
:39:17. > :39:22.And then watch McPherson in Lane 3. Does not panic. Day did not get
:39:23. > :39:27.going through the first 200 but she is just running her own race. You
:39:28. > :39:32.can see the two of them right there but she's not panicking. She knows
:39:33. > :39:36.she comes into the home straight, she's in tracking distance. As
:39:37. > :39:44.Montsho starts to fade, the question is, can not been Williams-Mills hang
:39:45. > :39:48.on here? Look at her knee lift, it is dropping, dropping, dropping. In
:39:49. > :39:54.contrast to McPherson. She powers her way through. And that was a
:39:55. > :40:03.great race and a well judged race from the first. Look at that on the
:40:04. > :40:06.line. Almost doing a Christine Ohuruogu to the three Jamaicans.
:40:07. > :40:14.Michael Johnson took us through this one. It is a difficult situation and
:40:15. > :40:18.you have to make the decision beforehand, what kind of race and my
:40:19. > :40:21.going to run with all the competition behind me? She decided,
:40:22. > :40:26.I'm going to take it out and make them come get me. She's not in that
:40:27. > :40:33.type of shape. Surprising for me is Notley Williams-Mills, the
:40:34. > :40:39.Championship runner, decided to go with her. I looked it over at it
:40:40. > :40:42.from the start and knew she was not going to keep the pace. You see the
:40:43. > :40:48.athletes behind her running a sensible pace and we have said it
:40:49. > :40:53.before, what happens on the front of the race takes its toll on the end
:40:54. > :40:56.of the race. McPherson having run a very sensible race, she got out well
:40:57. > :41:02.and ran her race and let the others do what they were doing, came to her
:41:03. > :41:05.own race strategy and it was her victory. And I also thought that she
:41:06. > :41:13.may be a threat for goals here. Very poised. She is young, and she has
:41:14. > :41:19.got a lot of talent here. Very poised, very relaxed. If we had a
:41:20. > :41:24.shot of the other two they would not look like this. Montsho and
:41:25. > :41:28.Williams-Mills, about 40 metres from the finish line, started to tighten
:41:29. > :41:32.up. You saw it on both their faces. It took too much out of them from
:41:33. > :41:36.the front of the race. Montsho a game just got on the back stretch. A
:41:37. > :41:43.ridiculous pace and she was never going to be able to keep it.
:41:44. > :41:48.Williams-Mills, Montsho, both grimacing, both feeling the pain at
:41:49. > :41:53.this point. And just not going to be able to keep this pace, and now the
:41:54. > :41:59.celebration is happening rapidly for those two. And again, Montsho does
:42:00. > :42:07.not really get a good lead like last year. Last year it cost her a god.
:42:08. > :42:12.This time it cost her a medal. -- it cost her the gold. McPherson was
:42:13. > :42:22.fourth in the World Championships in Moscow last year but here she has a
:42:23. > :42:30.-- she heads a Jamaican 1-2-3. We have become used to seeing Jamaican
:42:31. > :42:38.1-2-3s. Here the Jamaicans and it again. -- dominate a game.
:42:39. > :42:44.You think there is only one way to skin that cat and as we have seen so
:42:45. > :42:49.many times with Christine and the way she approaches the race, and we
:42:50. > :42:52.saw there four different ways to try to win that race and in the end it
:42:53. > :42:57.was the patient, considered runner who came through. Yes. And at the
:42:58. > :43:04.end of the day, you have got to decide... It is a lactic acid
:43:05. > :43:09.build-up event. If you go out to hard you will pay the price. But I'm
:43:10. > :43:17.really disappointed and gutted for nothing Williams-Mills -- for
:43:18. > :43:21.Williams-Mills because she has been searching for that gold-medal. The
:43:22. > :43:28.opportunity is not going to be coming around often for her. We
:43:29. > :43:32.expected better from her. Also for Montsho. Just hasn't got the facts
:43:33. > :43:39.speak she needs. She was obviously rundown in the last part of the
:43:40. > :43:45.race. -- obviously hasn't got the flat speed she needs. When will she
:43:46. > :43:52.learn? I think she was giving it everything she had. But the lactic
:43:53. > :43:57.acid, she was holding on and holding on. Maybe she could have dipped a
:43:58. > :44:05.bit more, could she, Michael? Maybe she was so tired and had nothing
:44:06. > :44:10.left at the end. She went out way too hard. There was just nothing
:44:11. > :44:15.left in the end. You would think that the experience she can got over
:44:16. > :44:20.that distance, to lose her head and go out about speed, knowing the
:44:21. > :44:26.condition she is in, it shows you the then getting too much for you.
:44:27. > :44:29.When everyone is behind you, you try to take them out of their race by
:44:30. > :44:36.really giving out at that sort of pace. I think she got caught up in
:44:37. > :44:38.the emotion of it all and just felt like, well,
:44:39. > :44:41.the emotion of it all and just felt like, I'm Superwoman, I'm going to
:44:42. > :44:44.be able to just continue this pace and they will have to come get me.
:44:45. > :44:57.And they did. They did. The great race. We will move on. A world now
:44:58. > :45:02.to the 110 meter hurdles final. Will Lawrence Clarke at his name to the
:45:03. > :45:10.list of fabulous men who have won this over the generations?
:45:11. > :45:22.COMMENTATOR: Henry now, all the way. Henry wins. Henry wins. Two got
:45:23. > :45:28.medals. Jackson flying into the first hurdle. Jackson getting away.
:45:29. > :45:35.And look at this. New European and Commonwealth record to the peerless
:45:36. > :45:37.Prince of Wales. If you make a superb demonstration by COLIN
:45:38. > :45:51.JACKSON:. He's the Commonwealth champion. Jarrett is coming away.
:45:52. > :46:00.And Brown is going to get him. That is close. Jarrett 's got it. Andy
:46:01. > :46:09.Turner is streaking away. He's the champion. GABBY LOGAN: A rich source
:46:10. > :46:13.of medals for the home nations. Andy Turner crashed out this morning,
:46:14. > :46:16.desperately disappointed with his performance here. Here's what
:46:17. > :46:21.happened to Andy Turner this morning.
:46:22. > :46:24.The defending champion, he said he came in, felt good. He said he felt
:46:25. > :46:29.in good form. Afterwards, understandably distraught. He said
:46:30. > :46:34.it's schoolboy running. Yeah, I mean, he was unfortunate. He got his
:46:35. > :46:38.stride pattern wrong, hit it with that trail leg, that foot took him
:46:39. > :46:42.out before the second hurdle. You can see his reaction. Just
:46:43. > :46:46.devastated. Devastated because he knows there was an opportunity for
:46:47. > :46:50.him to probably get a medal, make it through to the final. It is pretty
:46:51. > :46:58.wide-open. It is, we know for sure there's going to be a new name to
:46:59. > :47:02.lift this Gold Medal. Could it be Sharman? He surprised a lot of
:47:03. > :47:08.people that night? He's been coming back and having a good season,
:47:09. > :47:12.healthy again. Always confident and always I look forward to his
:47:13. > :47:17.post-race interview. It's always so full of content. That's a good way
:47:18. > :47:21.to describe it. He's a great guy and a great
:47:22. > :47:25.athlete. He looks very focussed here. He knows this is his. It could
:47:26. > :47:30.really be his. Let's see if we can get the thoughts
:47:31. > :47:34.of the two-time champion and Commonwealth Games record holder,
:47:35. > :47:38.Colin Jackson. I won't comment on the fact that he doesn't appear to
:47:39. > :47:42.have aged at all since those victories. Call it for us, Colin, is
:47:43. > :47:48.it going to be another home nations winner? I think we'd all like to see
:47:49. > :47:51.Will take this title. He had a difficult qualification with
:47:52. > :47:54.Brathwaite next to him. They spent a lot of time clashing with each
:47:55. > :47:58.other. The advantage this time is that they have swapped lanes. As
:47:59. > :48:02.their lead legs go away from each other rather than close to each
:48:03. > :48:06.other. That will help Will. The most important thing for Will is to get
:48:07. > :48:12.an explosive start, get in front early and then he can dominate the
:48:13. > :48:17.field. This is riddled with talent, Riley we saw going very well and
:48:18. > :48:20.winning his heat. Lawrence Clarke is running outside for England as well.
:48:21. > :48:25.He's been in many finals and produced the goods at the finals
:48:26. > :48:29.too. It's not going to be a single-horse race. Will has to get
:48:30. > :48:39.out early and dominate if he's going to take this victory. Thank you very
:48:40. > :48:42.much Colin. Let's get out to our commentary team, is there going to
:48:43. > :48:50.be another medal for England or the track tonight? STEVE CRAM: In lane
:48:51. > :48:56.six will be maybe the favourite Andrew Riley, certainly a man who
:48:57. > :49:02.has run very fast this year, 13. 19. That was in Monaco, recently. Shane
:49:03. > :49:10.Brathwaite what a season he's having. Three men from Barbados in
:49:11. > :49:18.this final. PB 13. 24. Then Lawrence Clarke in lane eight. Bronze medal
:49:19. > :49:23.last time. It was an English one, two, three last time. No Turner,
:49:24. > :49:27.Sharman and Clarke, but we have three men from Barbados in this
:49:28. > :49:50.final. The last cries of support for Will
:49:51. > :49:58.Sharman as they settle into their blocks. Former world champion, to
:49:59. > :50:08.his right in lane four, Andrew Riley of Jamaica in six.
:50:09. > :50:14.Sharman gets a pretty good start. So does Brathwaite, he hits the first
:50:15. > :50:19.hurdle. Riley is coming through. Sharman coming with him. Riley and
:50:20. > :50:26.Sharman. Sharman stutters off that hurdle. It will be tight and Riley
:50:27. > :50:31.gets the gold. Sharman the silver. No a head wind. Oh, did he just give
:50:32. > :50:34.it away a couple of hurdles out. Did he have the chance to take the Gold
:50:35. > :50:38.Medal this time? It was snatch add way from him by the -- snatched away
:50:39. > :50:43.from him, from the man in good form this year, Riley of Jamaica. Sharman
:50:44. > :50:46.must be thinking - that was my chance. That was my opportunity. He
:50:47. > :50:51.didn't get the best of starts. He got into the race with Riley and
:50:52. > :50:55.they were level, about halfway. Over the sixth hurdle, the seventh. Then
:50:56. > :50:59.Colin, what happened? I think Sharman had a chance to win that and
:51:00. > :51:05.he can finish really well. He just didn't do that. You can sense the
:51:06. > :51:09.frustration as he looked up at the screen. He will be disappointed with
:51:10. > :51:12.himself. I don't think he did many things wrong. Andrew Riley, you know
:51:13. > :51:21.you don't want to go to the last hurdle with Andrew Riley. He is a
:51:22. > :51:31.supreme sprinter. He won the 100m at the NCAA while in college. You don't
:51:32. > :51:41.want to do bat well him. -- battle with him. I think that was the
:51:42. > :51:44.crucial time, hurdle eight that made the He just difference. Goes off
:51:45. > :51:47.balance. It wasn't a great start out of the blocks either. He didn't take
:51:48. > :51:52.the first hurdle out. This bit of the race is good. We won't see it on
:51:53. > :51:58.this angle. When he hits the eighth hurdle, he just loses his - there,
:51:59. > :52:03.it was there. You Ste clearly. To the naked eye you can see what
:52:04. > :52:07.happened. What happens, when you're accelerating through the race, if
:52:08. > :52:12.you don't get very quickly to the first two Howardled -- hurdles, your
:52:13. > :52:17.acceleration happens later. That's what happened to Will. He clattered
:52:18. > :52:20.the first hurdle which will have held him back by a fraction. Now he
:52:21. > :52:25.moves ahead of the people around him. He's accelerating all the way
:52:26. > :52:27.through the race. He's going to reach maximum speed at hurdle eight
:52:28. > :52:29.instead of six. reach maximum speed at hurdle eight
:52:30. > :52:34.instead He's just not quite prepared for that. That drags him back and
:52:35. > :52:38.that's exactly what I think cost him the race. You can see there, that
:52:39. > :52:42.caused a rock and that is very, very difficult to come at, because you're
:52:43. > :52:45.going at such a pace. As I said, you don't want to be sprinting into the
:52:46. > :52:49.last hurdle with Andrew Riley because he is a supreme sprinter.
:52:50. > :52:57.Certainly the fastest in this field on the flat. Silver again for Will
:52:58. > :53:06.Sharman. It wasn't another Englishman this time, it was to a
:53:07. > :53:10.Jamaica. Good performance by Riley because he was under a lot of
:53:11. > :53:11.pressure. The expectation wasn't really on him.
:53:12. > :53:15.pressure. The expectation wasn't really on He will know he has the
:53:16. > :53:18.capabilities of winning this title. There's Will. He's carrying that
:53:19. > :53:28.England flag, you know deep down in his heart, he will be bitterly
:53:29. > :53:30.disappointed. That is the second Silver Medal, two consecutive
:53:31. > :53:55.Commonwealth Games for Will Sharman. GABBY LOGAN: So, Will Sharman with
:53:56. > :53:58.the Silver Medal. It sounds disingenuous to say he'll be
:53:59. > :54:03.disappointed, but he will, because there was an opportunity there. But
:54:04. > :54:09.for the eighth hurdle, the gold would have been his. Inside he's
:54:10. > :54:12.going to be hurting. It's not often that you are presented with an
:54:13. > :54:18.opportunity to take a Gold Medal and he's in the shape of his life. He's
:54:19. > :54:22.been running brilliantly all season. What I think happened was that he
:54:23. > :54:27.was aware that he was in the lead, having been slightly down and he got
:54:28. > :54:31.to hurdle eight and he couldn't see anybody really that close to him. I
:54:32. > :54:37.think he must have lapsed in concentration and hit that barrier.
:54:38. > :54:43.It's such a shame for him. But he'll bounce back. He's still got the
:54:44. > :54:46.European Championships. He can hopefully make amends. He looks like
:54:47. > :54:50.he's enjoying himself, maybe it's out of his mind already. At the end
:54:51. > :54:59.of the day, it is a Silver Medal at the Commonwealth Games. Let's look
:55:00. > :55:04.then at the final head on. Michael? Yeah, I don't know nearly enough,
:55:05. > :55:08.hurdles always look difficult to me. When people get over them I'm
:55:09. > :55:13.impressed. But he did hit that one hard. I know Will and he's - I know
:55:14. > :55:17.this is an opportunity for him. He would have gone into this thinking,
:55:18. > :55:21.yeah, I'm sure he's there just going, that was my opportunity and I
:55:22. > :55:25.don't know when I'll get it again. In all honesty, I don't that I that
:55:26. > :55:29.Will, he's a very smart guy, he analyses things. I don't think that
:55:30. > :55:34.he feels he will ever be one of those world champions. It's tough at
:55:35. > :55:37.that level. This is his opportunity. The Frenchman this season, who we
:55:38. > :55:41.see later at the European Championships, who has taken it on
:55:42. > :55:45.another level this season. We'll see those guys go head to head. He is in
:55:46. > :55:53.a different league at the moment. 12. 94, at his first target is to go
:55:54. > :55:59.13 seconds. I actually think Will could do that. I do. I know you
:56:00. > :56:05.don't feel it. He's 13. 21 and he's been around for a while. I think
:56:06. > :56:10.that, what's the breakthrough that's going to get him to the 13-flat
:56:11. > :56:15.level? More speed, obviously. His technique isn't too flawed. He needs
:56:16. > :56:21.more speed. You just go get some? Go and buy some at the shop, you know!
:56:22. > :56:24.But he didn't start well. There are points in that race he can analyse
:56:25. > :56:29.and that could be a tenth there easily. There's the Sharman fan
:56:30. > :56:33.club. They're happy with him. I imagine that there's a relations
:56:34. > :56:38.corner here, as there is at swimming as well. They're giving him lots of
:56:39. > :56:41.cuddles. Pretty sure they're related. You won't have to wait for
:56:42. > :56:45.long to hear that interview. We are going back to Tollcross to the
:56:46. > :56:49.swimming. I think it's the last two finals of what has been a fabulous
:56:50. > :56:52.swim meet. CLARE BALDING: It has. You'll be
:56:53. > :56:56.delighted because particularly a very good night for Wales. Until
:56:57. > :57:01.yesterday, Welsh women have not won a Gold Medal in the pool for 40
:57:02. > :57:05.years. But they took gold in the 50 m backstroke and silver went to
:57:06. > :57:09.Lauren Quigley the 19-year-old from England. She said a new English
:57:10. > :57:14.record. But she wasn't fast enough to beat Georgia Davis, who in a new
:57:15. > :57:18.British record and Commonwealth Games record took gold. It's her
:57:19. > :57:22.first major title. She's 23 years old, another one to train with James
:57:23. > :57:24.Gibbson in Loughborough. This is old, another one to train with James
:57:25. > :57:31.Gibbson in Loughborough. This a magnificent moment for her and for
:57:32. > :57:35.Wales. Georgia Davis will be one of the
:57:36. > :57:37.swimmers coming in for Tonight at the Games at 10. 40pm tonight.
:57:38. > :57:51.Brilliant stuff. Wonderful performance from her and
:57:52. > :57:58.so too from Daniel Wallace, who had his kilt on again who came out for
:57:59. > :58:01.the medal ceremony for the 200m individual medley. He watched brave
:58:02. > :58:06.heart before he won his Gold Medal in the 400 IM and that had inspired
:58:07. > :58:14.him. He was pumped up for this. And the crowd roared him home, a great
:58:15. > :58:16.swim. Beaten by the Australian. But smashed his personal best. The
:58:17. > :58:21.longest race of the Commonwealth Games has taken place. It's the 1500
:58:22. > :58:24.metres. When we look at the line-up you see that it includes a swimmer
:58:25. > :58:29.from Wales, one from Scotland and England. Daniel Jervis is an
:58:30. > :58:34.18-year-old apprentice for his dad who's a painter and decorator. Good
:58:35. > :58:40.junior swimmer. This is his first senior meet. Ryan Cochrane the hot
:58:41. > :58:45.favourite for Canada. In lane five, Stephen Miller from Scotland. --
:58:46. > :58:50.Milne from Scotland. And this was him coming out the 20-year-old who
:58:51. > :58:56.trains in Perth and Dan Fogg was the English representative. Ryan
:58:57. > :58:58.Cochrane the Olympic Silver Medallist, the man with the
:58:59. > :59:05.pedigree. In the early stages of this race it was a battle between
:59:06. > :59:11.him and Matt Horton. Let's pick it up with commentary from Adrian
:59:12. > :59:15.Moorehouse and Andy Jamieson. Cochrane gets the bell. He's turning
:59:16. > :59:21.in Gold Medal position. This will be an awesome double. Horton in silver.
:59:22. > :59:25.He's still catching. I'm not sure he's going to have enough space. He
:59:26. > :59:31.looks very good indeed in fourth position at the moment, Dan Jervis
:59:32. > :59:35.from Wales. 1. 5 seconds. Oh, he's eating it up very quickly. He's
:59:36. > :59:39.charging at the top of that shot now. It's Australia in third
:59:40. > :59:43.position and Wales in four. But very, very clear leader. The leader
:59:44. > :59:47.is the defending champion, Ryan Cochrane from Canada. He won the
:59:48. > :59:50.Gold Medal. Look at the top of the shot. It's a long way. There's still
:59:51. > :59:55.clear water between the two. It's going to be tight. Well, I think
:59:56. > :59:59.that Cochrane has had an awesome double, double, brilliant swim.
:00:00. > :00:02.Jervis is charging like a train. The Gold Medal very clearly going to
:00:03. > :00:08.Ryan Cochrane. We should stop and just salute this guy. He won the
:00:09. > :00:13.gold in the 400m and 1500m in Delhi. He has already won the gold here in
:00:14. > :00:19.the 400, and the 1500 he's won in fine fashion. The silver is to Matt
:00:20. > :00:26.Horton. Lock at the race for bronze. He's going to do it! Daniel Jervis
:00:27. > :00:32.has done it! He's got a bronze medal in the men's 1500m freestyle from
:00:33. > :00:36.absolutely miles back. The Welsh team have gone loopy down the far
:00:37. > :00:41.end of the poop and rightly so! Well done Dan Jervis. Heavens above, how
:00:42. > :01:02.did he do that? Oh, boy, that was awesome. You could not ignore that
:01:03. > :01:03.race is on the far side. The crowd went nuts and I
:01:04. > :01:08.race is on the far side. The crowd went nuts thought the Welsh team
:01:09. > :01:10.were going to fall in the water. The film -- he was the furthest
:01:11. > :01:15.were going to fall in the water. The film -- away from the finish and he
:01:16. > :01:21.was coming back against John Harrison and they nearly fell in,
:01:22. > :01:29.they were jumping over! He finished like an absolute train. He can go so
:01:30. > :01:40.much faster if he picks it up inside the first 100m. How on Earth did he
:01:41. > :01:49.do that? Look at this. He was miles behind. It is really into. That is
:01:50. > :01:54.utterly fantastic. -- it is great. A true champion representing champion
:01:55. > :01:59.-- representing Canada is Cochrane, winning the race. Successfully
:02:00. > :02:05.defending the title he won in Delhi four years ago and he becomes the
:02:06. > :02:11.winner of the 100th Canadian Gold medal in the swimming pool and in
:02:12. > :02:17.Commonwealth history. Silver to Mack Horton of Australia. And what a
:02:18. > :02:20.bronze medal for Daniel Jervis! Could you hear this crowd? I thought
:02:21. > :02:27.they were going to jump over and into the whole! The atmosphere in
:02:28. > :02:34.Tollcross is amazing. -- swimming pool. And to seep the Welsh flags is
:02:35. > :02:40.phenomenal. -- to see. I cannot believe this. For a Swansea boy,
:02:41. > :02:48.that is fantastic. You swam the last 100m nearly faster than Cochrane.
:02:49. > :02:53.That is appraising. To be swimming with these guys is amazing. --
:02:54. > :02:59.surprising. I do not know what to say, I am shocked. I am so happy.
:03:00. > :03:06.The home nations have had a good time. You have had a bit of a
:03:07. > :03:11.flurry. Yes, with Georgia winning and with Jazz Carlin winning, a
:03:12. > :03:17.great time for Wales. Well done. Thank you very much.
:03:18. > :03:24.That is such a gruelling grace and for Daniel Jervis to finish as
:03:25. > :03:30.strongly as he did was epic. What a great swim. Becky, he smashed his
:03:31. > :03:36.personal best and never has a bronze medal in more deserving! One of the
:03:37. > :03:42.longer races. -- been more deserving. In 11 seconds personal
:03:43. > :03:47.best is incredible. He won the European Juniors at this time last
:03:48. > :03:51.year, he was going one-minute slow and he is only 18. He has so much
:03:52. > :03:56.more to give in the future. It was your fiance Harry that told us he
:03:57. > :04:06.still works as an apprentice painter and decorator. Maybe he works with
:04:07. > :04:10.him! I do not know. What was so impressive was that case of never
:04:11. > :04:19.giving up. Two seconds behind in that last quarter. And those are two
:04:20. > :04:24.great swimmers. Maximum -- Mack Horton and Cochrane have such a
:04:25. > :04:32.great pedigree. Kieran Perkins has the Games record. Look at him! And
:04:33. > :04:36.that is the exciting thing. The medallists have come from Scotland,
:04:37. > :04:41.Wales and England and they are right at the beginning of their careers.
:04:42. > :04:46.They have done so well here. What is scary about Daniel is that he has
:04:47. > :04:52.come on so much in a year, what else has he got left? These guys will be
:04:53. > :04:57.on the podium in Rio, for the World Championships. What a great
:04:58. > :05:02.experience to have a home crowd, his first major senior international.
:05:03. > :05:08.This feels like an international swimming competition that has been
:05:09. > :05:11.all about belief, Mark. Swimmers have been inspired by the crowd, the
:05:12. > :05:14.location, the fact their team-mates are achieving. They have done more
:05:15. > :05:24.than they have ever done before. One of my highlights is that it has
:05:25. > :05:28.not just been about Scotland. They have been cheering on the Welsh, the
:05:29. > :05:35.English, with just as much and easier than, and that has lifted the
:05:36. > :05:41.home nations. -- enthusiasm. The younger generation coming through
:05:42. > :05:48.that our world-class is awesome for Rio in two years. And to have done
:05:49. > :05:53.this rent double, he is only 19 -- this rent double. That was your
:05:54. > :06:02.distance and you know it is about reaction time. -- the leg double.
:06:03. > :06:13.Those are his grandparents, that is lovely. He is in with experienced
:06:14. > :06:19.swimmers. They are quite intimidating. He got one over them.
:06:20. > :06:24.A world-class field. At 19, you do not get strong until 23, 24, it is
:06:25. > :06:30.exciting to see what will happen. We have mentioned legacy, Vicky left a
:06:31. > :06:34.legacy in swimming and now it is nice to see we have another
:06:35. > :06:42.sprinter. -- Becky. They have done us proud here.
:06:43. > :06:46.Daniel Jervis is getting so much applause that he has got detached
:06:47. > :06:51.from the others and he is getting an ovation as he comes passed the stand
:06:52. > :06:59.of friends and family. He is loving this. Let's talk about Georgia
:07:00. > :07:04.Davies who set a new British record in winning the 50 metre backstroke
:07:05. > :07:08.for Wales, Lauren Quigley finishing second for Wales. That was a great
:07:09. > :07:13.result although that is not an Olympic event. It is not in the
:07:14. > :07:20.Olympics but great confidence for Georgia and Lauren. 100m backstroke,
:07:21. > :07:26.so it is nice Lauren got a silver medal. For Georgia, what a boost.
:07:27. > :07:33.Training with James Gibson who we have mentioned so much this week.
:07:34. > :07:37.Really building up a centre in Loughborough. It will bode well
:07:38. > :07:45.going into the World Championships next year, concentrating on that
:07:46. > :07:49.100m backstroke. This is another look at that, the underwater camera
:07:50. > :07:56.shows the technique. And you should see the waves. But you have to focus
:07:57. > :08:03.and go for it. Sports science is important because how far it has
:08:04. > :08:08.come on. Those two had the best start. They led from the start. It
:08:09. > :08:19.came down to a fingernail touch. Georgia Davies, a new British
:08:20. > :08:24.record. A new English record. And that first major title for Georgia
:08:25. > :08:29.Davies who is 23, so she is not old. And we finished with the two relays.
:08:30. > :08:34.And chances for more medals here. Wales, England, Scotland and
:08:35. > :08:42.Northern Ireland are represented here. Totally different to this
:08:43. > :08:48.morning's heats were the second swimmers swam. They are fresh and
:08:49. > :08:53.ready and on paper, we should be rivalling the Australians. That's
:08:54. > :08:58.hand you back as they come out -- lets.
:08:59. > :09:16.I just heard you above the massive roar 14 Scotland. -- 14 Scotland. --
:09:17. > :09:21.first Team Scotland. The Canadians have got serious chances. That is
:09:22. > :09:34.Team England, Lauren Quigley leading. Sophie Taylor. She got Gold
:09:35. > :09:41.on the breaststroke. Fran household was fourth between two superb
:09:42. > :09:53.Australians -- Brown Halse all. The Australians have the fastest seed. A
:09:54. > :09:57.tough team. I think Lauren Quigley will be buoyed by that silver medal
:09:58. > :10:08.for England. Georgia Davies in two for Wales. A stronger lead. -- a
:10:09. > :10:14.strong lead. Very well supported, the Scottish team. Dawson, what a
:10:15. > :10:27.wonderful meet she has had at the age of 16. And the Northern Ireland.
:10:28. > :10:34.-- and Northern Ireland. Scotland have had a super time. Right at the
:10:35. > :10:46.top, representing Wales in lane number two, Georgia Davies. Closest
:10:47. > :10:51.to us is Northern Ireland. The last women's final of the Commonwealth
:10:52. > :10:56.Games, the final evening. And a good start in the Centre for Lauren
:10:57. > :11:01.Quigley, of England. Coming off the back of that success, it is
:11:02. > :11:04.interesting. What you need now is for some of these swimmers to swim
:11:05. > :11:11.better than they did in the individuals. It is not over until
:11:12. > :11:18.this has been done. You want these women to go as fast as they can, and
:11:19. > :11:22.records can be set. The Australians doing what they need, but what a
:11:23. > :11:34.fantastic turn from Georgia Davies! A battle here. Can Georgia Davies
:11:35. > :11:41.turn this around? Doing pretty much the same time she did to get the
:11:42. > :11:48.silver medal. Australia leading. The time is fast. 59.4. Russell is third
:11:49. > :11:53.for Canada. Georgia Davies second for Wales. Lauren Quigley just
:11:54. > :11:58.outside 60 seconds again. 60 seconds again Taylor won the 100m breast
:11:59. > :12:05.stroke for England and she is charging in the middle. Her back
:12:06. > :12:12.end, it is very strong. If Taylor can do this now, against Sonia Tonks
:12:13. > :12:20.who got the silver for Australia, it is a strong field. Each nation
:12:21. > :12:24.putting their best swimmers forward. Taylor came away at about this
:12:25. > :12:32.point. She started to launch forward. Fantastic swim. 1.3 seconds
:12:33. > :12:40.off the field in her 100. Taylor can make a big impact here. A very
:12:41. > :12:45.important piece of this race right now and Taylor is starting to move
:12:46. > :12:54.away from the field. The halfway point. A very good length from
:12:55. > :13:00.Sophie Taylor and what a great start for Siobhan-Marie O'Connor. We have
:13:01. > :13:05.seen her do great start but she must have taken another metre out of the
:13:06. > :13:12.field. Siobhan-Marie O'Connor the silver in the 100. The Australian
:13:13. > :13:17.got the bronze just behind her. This is for O'Connor to step up and do
:13:18. > :13:26.something fantastic. The Australian looked over. A real job to do now
:13:27. > :13:33.against Campbell. She needs about half a second. I am not sure it is
:13:34. > :13:43.enough and Siobhan-Marie O'Connor coming back well, as is in the
:13:44. > :13:49.McEwan of Australia. -- UN. Very tight indeed. First is England,
:13:50. > :13:57.second is Australia, third is Canada, for this Wales, having a
:13:58. > :14:02.very good swim indeed. Fran had 0.1 and it is going to be tough. She
:14:03. > :14:16.needs to be very careful in this first 50 metres. A really big turn
:14:17. > :14:23.from Fran. It is head-to-head. Surely she cannot do this? The lady
:14:24. > :14:26.in the yellow hat from Australia is the fastest woman in the world in
:14:27. > :14:32.the 100m freestyle and she is hanging on, Halsall, but it looks
:14:33. > :14:35.like Campbell is going to bring it home for Australia. And Gold in the
:14:36. > :14:43.final event for women in this woman pleb goes to Australia. -- in the
:14:44. > :14:49.women's swimming pool. The bronze has gone to Canada. Wales and
:14:50. > :14:55.fourth. A very good swim indeed from Wales. Scotland fifth. South
:14:56. > :15:01.Africa's sixth. The English team have equalled the British record.
:15:02. > :15:11.That record set in Rome. -- South Africa six. The England team killing
:15:12. > :15:19.the English record by three seconds. It was just too much. She did need
:15:20. > :15:25.that bit extra. The first three women gave such a big effort. Wales
:15:26. > :15:32.have been disqualified. We will see the results in a second. We saw the
:15:33. > :15:36.takeover from Georgia Davies. We thought in the heats they were
:15:37. > :15:48.borderline, zero, zero. indeed. The Welsh and Northern
:15:49. > :15:53.Ireland teams both disqualified. But not affecting the meldals. The Welsh
:15:54. > :15:59.did swim very well indeed. That's a great shame.
:16:00. > :16:08.The Gold Medal - look at that takeover. Very close indeed. Fran,
:16:09. > :16:12.well, she needed a little bit more. She pace today well. Just at the
:16:13. > :16:18.end, she didn't have enough. That's OK. She's the best at 50.
:16:19. > :16:24.Fran's split was 52. 5, which is very good for Fran. 51. 5 for the
:16:25. > :16:28.Australian. Goodness me. I wonder if that's the fastest split in history,
:16:29. > :16:37.you know? For Cate Campbell. Very, very strong. You can't live with a
:16:38. > :16:47.51. 5, Fran did really well. Sophie Taylor a fantastic 66. 39. You all
:16:48. > :16:54.right Fran, prop each other up, you're a team. Lauren, you led off.
:16:55. > :16:59.Yeah, I did. I'm proud of these girls. Finished on a good one.
:17:00. > :17:03.They're amazing. Our team talk about this was how many golds have you
:17:04. > :17:08.got, and they got to me, and "How many medals have you got? To do it
:17:09. > :17:12.with these girls, I'm proud of them. Quite some week. Sophie, you did so
:17:13. > :17:16.much and pulled up so much, it was such a close race. Yeah, well, like
:17:17. > :17:22.my mum's always said to me in a relay, I'm a fighter. That's what I
:17:23. > :17:28.do. I could see we weren't in first place, which I'm sure where we
:17:29. > :17:30.wanted to be. I gave it my all. Turning first, I thought right,
:17:31. > :17:35.that's my part done. The girls just carried it on and it was great.
:17:36. > :17:40.Siobhan, such a busy week and yet a great 100 fly there, you equalled to
:17:41. > :17:45.the 00th the British record. -- hundredth the British record. Oh,
:17:46. > :17:49.that's really cool. Chuffed to bits. That was a really good race. We knew
:17:50. > :17:53.we could give the Aussies a run for their money. I think we put up a
:17:54. > :17:56.really good fight and scared them quite a bit there. Apart from
:17:57. > :18:00.jumping out of your skin, when you came through the door, the blowers
:18:01. > :18:06.went off, you gave it all you could, Fran? I wasn't ready for that. Yeah,
:18:07. > :18:09.that was tough. Tough race. I knew these girls would put me in a
:18:10. > :18:14.fantastic position and they did everything they possibly could. Cate
:18:15. > :18:18.is too big to catch on the end. I gave it my all and the girls did, to
:18:19. > :18:21.equal the British record is fantastic. Fantastic week and
:18:22. > :18:26.fantastic silver. Now we are going to watch the guys and give them a
:18:27. > :18:31.shout. Here's team New Zealand in lane six
:18:32. > :18:35.of this, the final race of the Commonwealth Games in the swimming
:18:36. > :18:41.pool 2014 in Glasgow. What a wonderful meet it's been. Straight
:18:42. > :18:45.in we've got team England in lane three, they're the third fastest
:18:46. > :18:49.qualifiers. Walker-Hebborn leading the backstroke. He won the gold in
:18:50. > :19:00.that. Peaty on the breaststroke, he won the gold. Bronze medal to Adam
:19:01. > :19:04.Barrett on the fly. We have massive guys in this Australian team. James
:19:05. > :19:17.Magnussen fastest man in the world on 100 freestyle. Canada, they're in
:19:18. > :19:22.five. Magnussen at the back there. Team Australia, Larkin, not that
:19:23. > :19:33.great of a backstroker. Breaststroke may be the weak leg. We don't know.
:19:34. > :19:37.The English team can take the advantage. Well Chris
:19:38. > :19:41.Walker-Hebborn, Adam Peaty, just at the back right there, there's a lot
:19:42. > :19:45.of pressure on these guys. I wonder whether they can just take that
:19:46. > :19:51.extra step that the women just struggled slightly to do there. The
:19:52. > :20:05.men have a chance. Right at the top team Scotland.
:20:06. > :20:14.The final race at the Commonwealth Games in 2014, the men's 4 X 100 Med
:20:15. > :20:18.youly relay. -- medley relay. The English team need a very big leg
:20:19. > :20:24.from Chris Walker-Hebborn. Everyone up just about on time. Just about up
:20:25. > :20:28.to that 15-metre mark. Backstroke starts. Chris Walker-Hebborn up
:20:29. > :20:34.there in lane three. He needs to give the English team a big lead. At
:20:35. > :20:37.the moment, he is. Mitch Larkin head to head. He beat him in the
:20:38. > :20:41.individual. You need these swimmers to repeat that. You need them to
:20:42. > :20:45.step up and do maybe a little bit extra. Teams sometimes can do that
:20:46. > :20:49.to you, the team spirit, get going. Adam Brown on the freestyle needs
:20:50. > :20:54.about 1. 5 seconds. Walker-Hebborn has got to do his piece of this. He
:20:55. > :20:58.needs to get his half a second. It will all go into the bank account.
:20:59. > :21:02.Then Adam Brown will use it on the freestyle. He's going well at the
:21:03. > :21:06.moment. Chris Walker-Hebborn dying a tiny bit inside the last ten metres.
:21:07. > :21:11.It's not that much of a lead. A very tight takeover from the English
:21:12. > :21:17.team, goodness me. So, it's now Adam Peaty. Up against Sprenger. The
:21:18. > :21:20.Australian, that yellow hat, has had an awesome first 25. Absolutely.
:21:21. > :21:24.Sprenger had a bad start to the meet. It got better as he went
:21:25. > :21:28.along. Peaty had the better of him. The main thing here is not to get
:21:29. > :21:33.too excited. It's a difficult thing to do. It's easy to say. But Peaty
:21:34. > :21:37.has a very good last 25 metres. He needs to use it. Sprenger is
:21:38. > :21:42.sticking with him. It's a bit of a problem. We were hoping to get
:21:43. > :21:50.another half a second here. Charting up there in the green hat is Van der
:21:51. > :21:53.Burgh, the world record holder. At the moment, Peaty is looking good.
:21:54. > :21:58.I'm not sure there's enough lead. This is where he can do it. He's
:21:59. > :22:02.stronger than Sprenger. Sprenger is a little weaker. This is it,
:22:03. > :22:10.brilliant last five metres. Keep on driving to the wall. That's the
:22:11. > :22:13.halfway mark in this final race. There's a decent gap at the moment,
:22:14. > :22:18.it needs to be more, at least to be about three metres if England are
:22:19. > :22:23.going to win the gold here. It's England one, Australia two. Looks
:22:24. > :22:28.like maybe now down in lane six, New Zealand third. This is a very, very
:22:29. > :22:32.important leg for the English team. The butterfly swimmer here, Adam
:22:33. > :22:36.Barrett, he had a very, very good individual 100 fly to get a bronze
:22:37. > :22:45.medal and a super turn. Fantastic turn. He's nearly half a second
:22:46. > :22:49.ahead of Hadler. The crowd is going nuts. They know Brown will have to
:22:50. > :22:52.swim the swim of his life. He needs 1. 5 seconds at leaf, maybe two. He
:22:53. > :22:57.could have it. This could be enough. Adam Brown, the swim of your life.
:22:58. > :23:01.The final leg, oh, the Australians are very tight takeover indeed.
:23:02. > :23:06.Magnussen is off. He's chasing hard indeed. So it's Adam Brown for
:23:07. > :23:08.England and it's the fastest man in the world on the 100 metres
:23:09. > :23:13.freestyle for Australia, James Mugridge. He won the gold on --
:23:14. > :23:16.Magnussen. He won the gold on the individual. He's not eating into the
:23:17. > :23:20.lead yet. Adam Brown's legs are going like a speed boat. Brown, we
:23:21. > :23:25.need him to not to have gone too fast in the first 25. Manage your
:23:26. > :23:30.state. Magnussen coming back. 1. 4 seconds. I think Adam Brown can hold
:23:31. > :23:34.this. But Magnussen, like a train. Magnussen's very strong inside the
:23:35. > :23:38.last 25. This is not over yet. Team England still leading, but Magnussen
:23:39. > :23:41.is coming back. Magnussen really is coming back on Adam Brown. Brown is
:23:42. > :23:44.tiring, but I think he's going to make it. The final race of the
:23:45. > :23:48.Commonwealth Games in the swimming pool is won by England! What a
:23:49. > :23:53.wonderful swim that is and the guys behind the blocks going absolutely
:23:54. > :23:58.crazy, a new Commonwealth Games record and team England win the
:23:59. > :24:03.final race and goodness me, what a massive upset that is! Gold to
:24:04. > :24:06.England, silver to Australia, bronze to South Africa and the English team
:24:07. > :24:10.stand up and take a bow, stunning stuff! Well, I'm glad you were
:24:11. > :24:15.talking over the last ten metres mate, because I had no chance. I was
:24:16. > :24:19.on my feet shouting. What a great atmosphere! That was a brilliant
:24:20. > :24:24.swim. Adam Brown, the rest of the team gave him the lead he needed. He
:24:25. > :24:30.needed guts. He has to be careful. He's just gone over the block.
:24:31. > :24:37.You're not allowed to get over the blocks. You have to stay in the
:24:38. > :24:42.water. Well, Adam Peaty, Sprenger was with him all the way. Then Peaty
:24:43. > :24:47.delivered in the last ten metres or so. Just about here. Yeah, it was
:24:48. > :24:51.Sprenger tied here. Up and Peaty swap away. Very good leg from
:24:52. > :24:58.Barrett. He's the quiet man. What a leg from the final there. 51. 02
:24:59. > :25:04.Barrett. Brilliant. Very impressive. Yeah, that's interesting, he got
:25:05. > :25:08.that 0. 7 on Hadler. He was brilliant. They all did what we
:25:09. > :25:13.expected them to do. Brown had something left at the What we end.
:25:14. > :25:17.Expected, that's a big call! They did what they had to do. On paper,
:25:18. > :25:21.we all said on paper they should do it. What they delivered was to a
:25:22. > :25:26.man, a little bit better than that. They gave Brown a lead he must have
:25:27. > :25:31.thought, well, all my Christmases have come. Adam Brown is a new dad.
:25:32. > :25:34.His wife has given birth in the States. And it came very early. He
:25:35. > :25:38.wasn't there. It was meant to be after the Commonwealth Games. Look
:25:39. > :25:46.at the guys behind the block! Oh, yes. Oh, yes, Commonwealth champions
:25:47. > :25:52.on the men's 4 X 100 medley relay. The final race of the Games. It
:25:53. > :25:57.started with Hannah Miley. A gold on the 400 medley, and look at the
:25:58. > :26:15.English guys. Super, well done! Brown brought them home.
:26:16. > :26:22.Oh, my goodness me, wearing he's and jumping -- heels and jumping up and
:26:23. > :26:26.down was not good. Chris, how are you feeling? Buzzing. That was the
:26:27. > :26:30.best relay I've ever been apart of. To come away with the Games record
:26:31. > :26:37.and a gold is more than I could have asked for. I'm so proud. What a
:26:38. > :26:41.great way to finish your week. I couldn't top it off. These are like
:26:42. > :26:49.my brothers. It's amazing to get out there. Bring it home for England.
:26:50. > :26:54.Another Adam, fantastic fly leg, 51 flat. I didn't realise that.
:26:55. > :26:57.Brilliant to win as part of a team. We're so strong, team England, this
:26:58. > :27:05.year. We've proved today we can compete with anyone in the world.
:27:06. > :27:09.It's brilliant. And what can I say, how scary was it to go last against
:27:10. > :27:14.the fastest man in the world? Pretty scary. That last ten metres, I saw
:27:15. > :27:19.him catching me. I just knew that, these guys did an amazing job up
:27:20. > :27:23.front, the knew I had to give it my best and I haven't had the best of
:27:24. > :27:27.weeks individually, but to come back with these guys and to perform like
:27:28. > :27:31.that at the end of the meet, it's unbelievable. A great team. Pretty
:27:32. > :27:36.young team as well. Going forward, it's going to be really Do you good.
:27:37. > :27:40.Know you're the first time that England has ever won that event.
:27:41. > :27:46.What an Unbelievable. Amazing present for your wife now that
:27:47. > :27:51.you're a daddy. A little gift for my baby girl and my wife. Heading back
:27:52. > :27:56.home tomorrow to see them too, first time, yeah, can't wait, I'm pretty
:27:57. > :27:59.Please pass excited. On our best to the whole team. An extraordinary
:28:00. > :28:09.week and a prif tlodge watch you all, well done.
:28:10. > :28:13.GARY LINEKER: What a wonderful finale from the team there. The
:28:14. > :28:15.Australians have won that in the last four Commonwealth Games.
:28:16. > :28:19.Spectacular finish. Thanks to everyone at the Tollcross
:28:20. > :28:22.international swim Shooting Centre for all their efforts in the
:28:23. > :28:26.swimming. Ian Thorpe is here. It's a perfect moment really to say, well,
:28:27. > :28:33.what a shame, Australia have lost. Still 19 gold medals. You called it,
:28:34. > :28:38.you sat here, we were watching the race, you called it early. You said
:28:39. > :28:44.England might win. There were -- they were favourites going into
:28:45. > :28:48.this. The performance for the individual strokes has a second
:28:49. > :28:51.ahead ahead of Australia. This was always going -- second ahead of
:28:52. > :28:55.Australia. This was always gob to be a tough race. The breaststroke and
:28:56. > :28:58.butterfly leg were brilliant. You just saw them annihilate the
:28:59. > :29:03.Australians. It gave enough for Adam Brown to hang onto. Just enough.
:29:04. > :29:07.There was a part in the final 50 metres where it looked a little
:29:08. > :29:13.suspicious for Adam Brown trying to bring this home. He's fortunate that
:29:14. > :29:16.he had the lead that was required to hold on James When you're Magnussen.
:29:17. > :29:19.Ahead like that, and you know that someone's quicker, I suppose the
:29:20. > :29:24.important thing is not to panic. It is. You really want to get into a
:29:25. > :29:29.good rhythm. You can see it here. Watch Brown here, he has that, it's
:29:30. > :29:32.a galloping stroke, where you see every second stroke, the movement
:29:33. > :29:36.that's there. Because he had that slight lead on Magnussen, he was
:29:37. > :29:40.able to hold him off. To try and surge in the final stages of the
:29:41. > :29:45.race, to try and create speed, when you're fatiguing is very difficult.
:29:46. > :29:52.Brilliant scenes at the end, as you can imagine. They perhaps surprised
:29:53. > :29:57.themselves. The rest of the boys congratulating Adam for the final,
:29:58. > :30:00.for holding on. They must have been a little concerned that they may not
:30:01. > :30:06.have won it. They weren't aware that they had never won this event. Going
:30:07. > :30:11.into this, it's something that you'd usually tell the team to hype them
:30:12. > :30:14.up. They may have had some concerns. You've won a ton of individual gold
:30:15. > :30:20.medals yourself and won many a relay, is there a difference, a
:30:21. > :30:26.camaraderie thing kicks in? Is it a different feeling? It is. Because
:30:27. > :30:31.you require the performances of your team-mates. You need to rely on
:30:32. > :30:36.other people. You are not just relying on your own training, your
:30:37. > :30:39.own performances that you've done. You need that from everyone else.
:30:40. > :30:43.You have to have a tremendous amount of trust in what your training
:30:44. > :30:47.partners, friends, team-mates have done. If you do have that, you can
:30:48. > :30:51.produce a performance that far surpasses anything you can do by We
:30:52. > :30:54.have yourself. Seen great performances over the last week or
:30:55. > :31:08.so. Let's look at the final swimming medal table:
:31:09. > :31:16.top, with 19. The same they got in Delhi four years ago. England have
:31:17. > :31:23.ten. Wales have two. They have done better. They have. This result for
:31:24. > :31:28.Australia, with 19, the same as Delhi, a different reaction in
:31:29. > :31:34.Australia for these 19 Gold medals. 57 in total. Delhi was seen as a
:31:35. > :31:39.disappointment for Australia but this competition has been perceived
:31:40. > :31:43.as a success and mostly because the result in London was poor in
:31:44. > :31:48.comparison to what we have done previously.
:31:49. > :31:55.The home nations are performing well and not just the English team. A
:31:56. > :32:01.couple of Gold medals from Wales, three Gold medals. And. Team GB is
:32:02. > :32:04.sticking around. We do have a tendency in this country to
:32:05. > :32:10.sometimes get ahead of ourselves and to think things will be great in the
:32:11. > :32:16.future. But are we in safe hands with good talent coming through? The
:32:17. > :32:22.performances have been good. I have spoken about Ross Murdoch. He swam
:32:23. > :32:28.the 200 m breaststroke. Just behind the world record, which is amazing.
:32:29. > :32:35.He was able to swim well in the 100m breast stroke. Halsall has been able
:32:36. > :32:43.to perform well in sprint events. Some of the results... We have had
:32:44. > :32:49.other great performances this evening. When you can start listing
:32:50. > :32:54.names rather than one or two dominating each team, you know you
:32:55. > :33:02.will have a successful team. Looking at that Relay tonight, it was a
:33:03. > :33:07.British Relay. That looks like a medal contention. If you were to say
:33:08. > :33:13.the British team had a chance of winning a medal in the medal Relay
:33:14. > :33:17.in the next Olympics, Bob -- people would have been surprised coming
:33:18. > :33:22.into this. Has there been a standout swimmer? We are not seeing any Ian
:33:23. > :33:30.Thorpe, for example. You are welcome! No, there has not been a
:33:31. > :33:34.standout. There has not been something that has blown me away in
:33:35. > :33:41.such a way that I say, that is the one. But what I have seen is a
:33:42. > :33:46.return to a strength in the home nations which was not there in 2006.
:33:47. > :33:52.It was starting to come through a bit in 2010. The Canadians have also
:33:53. > :33:56.got some medals and they have struggled in the last couple of
:33:57. > :34:01.Commonwealth Games. New Zealand is also coming through. So there is a
:34:02. > :34:04.return to its being a more competitive Commonwealth Games.
:34:05. > :34:09.Australia was not as dominant as it has been deviously. Is that good not
:34:10. > :34:16.to have somebody dominating every event? -- Beavis Lee. We have gone
:34:17. > :34:22.through any where Michael Phelps has been some dominant that we have
:34:23. > :34:29.forgotten war -- how successful he is. -- through a period where
:34:30. > :34:34.Michael Phelps. There is not usually a global superstar that dominates
:34:35. > :34:40.like Michael Phelps. And now we will return to a couple of Gold medals
:34:41. > :34:49.here and there. We have not got a Michael Phelps. What about a store
:34:50. > :34:55.for the future, anybody here, a young swimmer? -- a star. Anybody
:34:56. > :35:04.make you think, maybe him? Murdoch. He was the one. I was not really
:35:05. > :35:08.aware what he was doing going into this competition. I looked at rhythm
:35:09. > :35:13.-- I looked at the results and thought maybe he was a chance, but
:35:14. > :35:18.not as strong as he was. The other person is Emma McKiernan, another
:35:19. > :35:34.Australian who got a couple of medals. We have not had a swimmer
:35:35. > :35:40.like that in Australia for 10-year is. She reminds us of Susie O'Neill
:35:41. > :35:43.and we would like her to to deliver those performances. Final forts, the
:35:44. > :35:50.Commonwealth Games in terms of swimming, stronger, getting
:35:51. > :35:54.stronger? -- final thoughts. It is a strong event and people in the home
:35:55. > :36:00.nation -- the home nations have an awareness of swimming and an
:36:01. > :36:05.appreciation for what these athletes are doing. With the success of
:36:06. > :36:09.London, we now can accelerate how these Commonwealth Games happen. We
:36:10. > :36:14.will not see Australia dominate the Commonwealth Games as we have
:36:15. > :36:23.before. Gold Coast next, so we might! Yes, it is. Let's hope it is
:36:24. > :36:27.a successful home advantage. Thank you for joining us, a great
:36:28. > :36:34.pleasure. We can go back to Hampden Park and join Gabby Logan.
:36:35. > :36:38.Thank you very much, Gary. Swimming is over but the athletics continues.
:36:39. > :36:43.Half an hour of action tonight including what we hope is a classic
:36:44. > :36:47.women's 1,500 metres final. Three Englishwomen and one Scotswoman. But
:36:48. > :36:57.now the decathlon. We are just about ready for the
:36:58. > :37:01.final event. The men's decathlon. Damian Warner is going to win Gold
:37:02. > :37:06.but it is an interesting battle for a silver medal between Kurt Felix
:37:07. > :37:14.and England's Ashley Bryant, John Lane with an ash -- with an outside
:37:15. > :37:20.chance. This could be an interesting race between Felix and Bryant.
:37:21. > :37:27.Martin Brockman a bit further down and Northern Ireland's Peter Glass.
:37:28. > :37:33.But the medals will be settled by this event which is painful for
:37:34. > :37:41.decathletes. So the final event in the men's decathlon. The Gold is
:37:42. > :37:47.going to go to Damian Warner, the man from Canada, wearing number one.
:37:48. > :37:52.In front of him is England's Ashley Bryant who has to beat Kurt Felix
:37:53. > :38:00.from grenade in about three seconds or more -- Grenada. And that leaders
:38:01. > :38:05.stretching. -- that lead is stretching. At the moment, the
:38:06. > :38:17.silver medal is going to Ashley Bryant. Three seconds is the
:38:18. > :38:24.calculation. Behind Damian Warner of Canada. The man behind him is the
:38:25. > :38:30.gold-medallist. It looks as though it may be another silver medal for
:38:31. > :38:36.England. And the gap between the two is 5.1 metres, Kurt Felix is trying
:38:37. > :38:42.to get back and he is picking up the pace. The gap is closing. The man in
:38:43. > :38:46.the silver medal position at the moment, Kurt Felix, is getting
:38:47. > :38:51.closer to the back of Damian Warner. The Canadian is going to win the
:38:52. > :38:59.Gold, that is settled. But Ashley Bryant, is that gap enough? I think
:39:00. > :39:09.so. Ben Gregory is coming on in sixth position. A good run from him.
:39:10. > :39:15.Ashley Bryant comes home. This man crossing the line is the champion of
:39:16. > :39:19.the decathlon, Damian Warner, what a performance! Kurt Felix, a tired
:39:20. > :39:25.figure, and he will slip from silver to bronze. After two days and ten
:39:26. > :39:30.events, Damian Warner is the winner of the men's decathlon and the
:39:31. > :39:35.Commonwealth Games by some distance. But Ashley Bryant coming through to
:39:36. > :39:42.take silver ahead of Kurt Felix. A personal best from John Lane, just
:39:43. > :39:45.shy of 8,000 points, in fourth. Well done to Ashley Bryant and a
:39:46. > :39:55.personal best for John Lane in fourth. Eaton is the favourite going
:39:56. > :39:59.into the last event of the heptathlon. The Canadian was
:40:00. > :40:02.desperate for a battle with Katarina Johnson-Thompson, that was not to
:40:03. > :40:07.be. She is in front on her own. Let's join the commentator for this,
:40:08. > :40:15.Andrew. No surprise she is out in front.
:40:16. > :40:25.Being pushed quite hard. Two English competitors also in fourth and fifth
:40:26. > :40:33.place. Jessica Taylor is in fourth place. 24.90 would move her into
:40:34. > :40:40.third place here. Ahead of the athlete from St Lucia. Steve Backley
:40:41. > :41:04.has been keeping and I on things. The two Canadians in front. The last
:41:05. > :41:12.event of Day one in the heptathlon. This athlete is quick. But it is
:41:13. > :41:19.cruel and breezy this afternoon. Can she get close to Theisen-Eaton and
:41:20. > :41:26.can Jessica Taylor and Tappin get close to bronze? A couple more races
:41:27. > :41:31.to come. This is the second heat of the 200 m in the heptathlon.
:41:32. > :41:36.Theisen-Eaton and Zalinka, the Canadians, leading the event.
:41:37. > :41:41.Theisen-Eaton is going to take the victory, but it is about the time.
:41:42. > :41:48.She will stretch her lead in this heptathlon. 23.42. That is a
:41:49. > :41:52.personal best for the Canadian. And in these conditions, that is a very
:41:53. > :42:01.impressive run indeed and that equals the habitat from best -- that
:42:02. > :42:07.equals the record for a personal best. That is fantastic. She has
:42:08. > :42:19.come in as the favourite, the Canadian. Sensational. She has the
:42:20. > :42:25.Games best on her own now. Zalinka I thought had the better time and
:42:26. > :42:31.pedigree over 200 m. But in end, Theisen-Eaton extended her lead. On
:42:32. > :42:38.the inside lane, Jessica Taylor of England run a soup herb race. She
:42:39. > :42:43.died in the last stages -- superb race. A strong day one and she could
:42:44. > :42:49.be a contender for the English. Looking at Taylor's time, she was on
:42:50. > :42:53.the inside lane -- you was in the inside lane, and I think she will
:42:54. > :43:01.move into the bronze medal position. -- she was. Three events
:43:02. > :43:04.remaining. The Canadians dominating. It would have been nice to see
:43:05. > :43:16.Morgan Lake competing in this atmosphere. There was an injury and
:43:17. > :43:20.we wish her well in her recovery. Theisen-Eaton is in great shape and
:43:21. > :43:30.she does extend her lead at the top courtesy of this time, they best for
:43:31. > :43:33.the Games in this event. That's time from Jessica Taylor will move her
:43:34. > :43:39.into the bronze position, I think. -- that time.
:43:40. > :43:48.That is confirmation of the standings at the end of day one in
:43:49. > :43:52.the heptathlon. Two Canadians. But a great performance from Jessica
:43:53. > :44:01.Taylor, a personal best in their High Jump set her on her way -- in
:44:02. > :44:07.the High Jump. Can she hold onto the bronze medal position in day two?
:44:08. > :44:17.The men's hammer final. This is the leading throw wet in the
:44:18. > :44:25.Commonwealth this year. He comes and probably as favourite here. -- he
:44:26. > :44:32.comes in. Steacy. Ten times the champion of Canada. 79 metres, he
:44:33. > :44:37.has thrown in the past, six years ago. He is now 30 years of age. This
:44:38. > :44:42.is a solid throw in the second round. He is pleased with that.
:44:43. > :44:57.74.16. That took the lead. So Nick Miller, very impressed with
:44:58. > :45:03.this young man. 21 years of age, very strong, based in North America.
:45:04. > :45:11.In solid technique. He likes that. Very simple technique -- a solid
:45:12. > :45:17.technique. Beyond 70 metres. The yellow line was the read of Steacy.
:45:18. > :45:23.-- the lead. It looks like he means is this. A karate champion of
:45:24. > :45:29.written at the age of 18, so do not mess with him! -- Britain. And Nick
:45:30. > :46:04.Miller, 72.99. Second place. GABBY LOGAN: Will Sharman with the
:46:05. > :46:07.Silver Medal in the 110 hurdles earlier this evening. Inched out,
:46:08. > :46:11.after hitting the eighth hurdle, just of the difference between that
:46:12. > :46:16.medal, which he's happy to receive and gold. It was a great opportunity
:46:17. > :46:19.for him tonight, Denise, maybe with an hour or so in between now and the
:46:20. > :46:24.race he's had time to think, actually, I'm happy with this? Hope
:46:25. > :46:27.flip he's reflected. He knows he's in good shape. You come to the
:46:28. > :46:32.Commonwealth Games, expected to get a medal and you do, it might not be
:46:33. > :46:42.the one he wanted. Clearly not the one he wanted, but it's a great
:46:43. > :46:47.result. Andrew Riley of Jamaica. He takes the gold. He was a favourite
:46:48. > :46:56.coming into this. He's raced well all season. Another track and field
:46:57. > :46:59.gold for Jamaica. We haven't had a chance to hear from Will Sharman,
:47:00. > :47:03.which I know, Michael, is desperate to do. If we don't hear that on air
:47:04. > :47:05.tonight, Michael, we will have it delivered to your hotel room in the
:47:06. > :47:11.next couple of hours. We get ready for the National Anthem
:47:12. > :48:36.of Jamaica. Andrew Riley winning in a time of
:48:37. > :48:40.13. 32 the Gold Medal for the 110 m hurdles. Will Sharman 13. 36. He
:48:41. > :48:52.spoke to Phil Jones after race. It's great to see you draped in the
:48:53. > :48:55.English flag. You've done a lap of honour and deservedly so. I could
:48:56. > :48:57.see at the finish, there was that look of maybe a touch of
:48:58. > :49:04.disappointment of what might have been. Yeah, I mean, I can't lie, I'm
:49:05. > :49:08.happy to have got a medal. The Commonwealth Games this year was
:49:09. > :49:13.much more difficult than it was depth and strength in
:49:14. > :49:16.competition-wise than four years ago. It was difficult from the
:49:17. > :49:21.beginning of the season to be able to target to be in the medals. I put
:49:22. > :49:29.the preparation into my training and I was capable all the way to medal.
:49:30. > :49:33.I hit one really badly and it spun me sideways. I was just flipping
:49:34. > :49:39.into the next gear at that point, trying to move away. This is sport.
:49:40. > :49:42.That happens. I was really pleased with the way I started today. My
:49:43. > :49:47.warm-up this afternoon was much better than this morning. So very,
:49:48. > :49:52.very close. If I hadn't been spun, then I'm sure I would have run a
:49:53. > :49:57.quicker time. GABBY LOGAN: Always analyses his races very well indeed.
:49:58. > :50:01.Will Sharman there Silver Medal in the 110 metres hurdles. In a few
:50:02. > :50:05.minutes, what could be a classic 1500 metres. We have four home
:50:06. > :50:41.interest women in this, all going for glory.
:50:42. > :50:47.Four very strong home interest women, Paula, with realistic chances
:50:48. > :50:51.of medals. A couple of very, very good Kenyans in there as well. Do
:50:52. > :50:55.they race each other? Do they take the race as a normal race, is it
:50:56. > :50:58.going to be more difficult for them having those women, they know so
:50:59. > :51:01.well, on their shoulders? I think it would be more difficult because it's
:51:02. > :51:09.a championship final and it really matters. There are two very good
:51:10. > :51:15.quality Kenyans there. The bronze medal is up for grabs by three of
:51:16. > :51:20.these women, but watch out for Nicky Hamblin. Let's hand over to Steve
:51:21. > :51:28.Cram and Brendan Foster. One of the highlight races of these
:51:29. > :51:34.Commonwealth Games, given the quality in this race on the outside,
:51:35. > :51:49.that is the Kenyan. She is the Commonwealth record holder. Just 20
:51:50. > :51:54.years of age. Two medals four years ago, not much in between. Looked
:51:55. > :51:56.very good yesterday. Talking about England, there she is, Hannah
:51:57. > :52:12.England. World Silver Medal from 2011. New Scottish record holder,
:52:13. > :52:26.just outside four minutes in Paris, from Glasgow, Laura Muir. From
:52:27. > :52:31.Australia, McKnight will be hoping to get in amongst the Kennial
:52:32. > :52:35.athletes. There are three English women, Jemma Simpson, could have
:52:36. > :52:44.gone for the 800, trying to move up to the 1500. Possibly the race
:52:45. > :52:48.favourite, Obiri, medallist at the World Championships this year. Broke
:52:49. > :52:52.the African 3,000 record at the beginning of the season.
:52:53. > :52:55.Talking about rising to the occasion, Melissa Duncan of
:52:56. > :53:00.Australia, knocked three seconds off her personal best to make it into
:53:01. > :53:06.the final, could spring a surprise. Not the best known of Kenyan 1500
:53:07. > :53:12.metres runner, Busienei into the final. Laura Weightman, the British
:53:13. > :53:17.champion, and the first time in a final where she knows, like many of
:53:18. > :53:23.these women, a medal is an opportunity perhaps to be grabbed.
:53:24. > :53:28.Sifuentes of Canada makes the full line-up. 12 women, two world-class
:53:29. > :53:39.Kenyans. They are the favourites. Can anybody else get in amongst
:53:40. > :53:43.them? The women's 1500m final. Two and three quarter laps of the
:53:44. > :53:55.track. Brendan Foster and I war chatting before about all the talk
:53:56. > :53:58.about Kenyan team tactics etc, well Kibiegon it will be interesting to
:53:59. > :54:03.see what sort of race unfolds for her. Obiri is strong. Kibiegon is
:54:04. > :54:12.fast. The two of them can't win the Gold Medal, that's for sure. A slow
:54:13. > :54:17.start. Van Buskirk at the front. Three red vests of Kenya. Three red
:54:18. > :54:22.vests of England. But blue vest of Scotland. Laura Muir got a great big
:54:23. > :54:28.cheer. We talked about tactics. This race is one of the class races of
:54:29. > :54:31.these championships. The tactics will be crucial. Often, when the
:54:32. > :54:35.Kenyans are in a group of athletes, you sense that they may take on some
:54:36. > :54:39.of the pace making, take on some of the tactics, take on some of the
:54:40. > :54:44.initiative. However, they've let almost a lap go and nobody's done
:54:45. > :54:51.anything. It's pretty ordinary, pretty pedestrian and for the first
:54:52. > :54:54.time, it looks as though Busienei, clearly the third ranked athlete,
:54:55. > :54:59.even at this early stage of the race, it's important for some of the
:55:00. > :55:04.British contenders to move closer to that. There's the three English
:55:05. > :55:10.women, Hannah England, Laura Weightman and Jemma Simpson. Laura
:55:11. > :55:14.Muir in the blue of Scotland just moving through. A very slow first
:55:15. > :55:18.lap, 70 seconds, that will do nothing except build up the nerves.
:55:19. > :55:23.Hannah England will be pretty happy with her speed. She's watching as
:55:24. > :55:27.the Kenyans control it. Busienei, who we thought might put pace on,
:55:28. > :55:31.has gone to the front, but hasn't done anything yet. Inevitably the
:55:32. > :55:35.rest of the field are waiting for Kibiegon, waiting for Obiri to do
:55:36. > :55:39.something. But they're all gathered. You can throw a very large cloak
:55:40. > :55:45.over - goodness me could we do with one tonight. Two laps to go. Two
:55:46. > :55:56.Kenyans at the front. Now Hamblin there. The way they run these race
:55:57. > :56:01.ises because they don't learn on the international circuit. There's pace
:56:02. > :56:04.makers in all those races. Suddenly, Laura Weightman decides she's
:56:05. > :56:12.waiting no longer. She's making a long run for it on the outside.
:56:13. > :56:16.Laura Muir responds to that. The two top Kenyans Obiri, Kibiegon in the
:56:17. > :56:23.middle of the back. You can tell now that the pace is just beginning to
:56:24. > :56:27.gather. Obiri on the outside. Weightman trying to hold her
:56:28. > :56:32.position. England is in there. Hamblin will be dangerous as well.
:56:33. > :56:35.Obiri awkward on the curb there. Kibiegon in the front. It hasn't
:56:36. > :56:43.been quick. Everybody with a chance here. Weightman looking for a gap.
:56:44. > :56:47.Kibiegon lets her through. Hamblin there. Weightman on the inside.
:56:48. > :56:52.Obiri in third. Laura Weightman got a great run through on the inside
:56:53. > :56:55.there. Obiri is back behind them. Kibiegon is moving through and Laura
:56:56. > :57:00.Muir is bringing this crowd to their feet. She's moving wide onto the
:57:01. > :57:05.outside. She's accelerating into the back straight. Laura Weightman
:57:06. > :57:09.exposed there a little at the front. Kibiegon and Obiri now starting to
:57:10. > :57:13.sprint down the back straight. Laura Muir is in a good position on the
:57:14. > :57:18.inside Weightman has looked as though she's trapped there. The race
:57:19. > :57:22.now is really moving. The two Kenyans in front. Kibiegon and
:57:23. > :57:27.Obiri. There's a real scrap for the Med ads behind them. Laura Weightman
:57:28. > :57:35.and Laura Muir, Hannah England. Busienei in there. -- Vanbuskirk in
:57:36. > :57:41.there. Kibiegon away. Weightman going past Obiri. Can they chase
:57:42. > :57:44.them down. It's going to be Kibiegon. Weightman trying to hang
:57:45. > :57:54.on for the Silver Medal. Kibiegon takes the gold. Weightman the
:57:55. > :57:59.silver, Van Buskirk the bronze for Canada. Congratulations Laura. What
:58:00. > :58:02.a performance to beat one of the Kenyans, we thought Kibiegon would
:58:03. > :58:06.have all the pace. We thought that Obiri might be the one. They thought
:58:07. > :58:09.the Kenyans should get a one, two here. We hoped that one of the
:58:10. > :58:15.British athletes could get in there. We hoped that they could perhaps
:58:16. > :58:20.nick a medal. But goodness me, Brendan, Kibiegon is a great
:58:21. > :58:29.champion. She is the Commonwealth champion and record holder. Van
:58:30. > :58:33.Buskirk took the bronze. Well done Laura. A lot of hard work's gone
:58:34. > :58:37.into that. A Silver Medal at the Commonwealth Games. Well her very
:58:38. > :58:41.proud coach Steve Cram next to me. Getting so excited because it was a
:58:42. > :58:45.great race. But what a performance by Laura Weightman. Well done Laura.
:58:46. > :58:49.She was absolutely brilliant there. She did everything right. She moved
:58:50. > :58:54.nicely at the bell, got into a position at the bell. There on the
:58:55. > :58:58.inside, Laura Weightman, a beautiful run on the inside. Starts to move
:58:59. > :59:05.through. She wasn't a bit overawed. She had talent around her and then,
:59:06. > :59:10.she worked and fought for this one. Laura Weightman there, Laura Muir on
:59:11. > :59:15.the outside. The last bend was really the fastest of the race. I've
:59:16. > :59:20.just got the information from Mark Butler. Laura Weightman
:59:21. > :59:27.accelerating, moving nicely and then the two Kenyans Obiri and Kibiegon,
:59:28. > :59:31.at this point Laura Weightman was under pressure. Laura Muir was
:59:32. > :59:35.fighting her an battling her. Look at the spirit of Laura Weightman.
:59:36. > :59:39.She's fighting. Here's Hannah England on the outside. She can't do
:59:40. > :59:43.anything about it. Laura Muir is coming under pressure. At this
:59:44. > :59:47.point, the two Kenyans are ahead. Laura Weightman now, she looks up,
:59:48. > :59:52.she glances up. She looks as though, I can try and win this one. There
:59:53. > :00:00.she goes, past Obiri. Much faster athlete over the past few months.
:00:01. > :00:07.Here comes Van Buskirk and here is qulaur Weightman digging -- Laura
:00:08. > :00:15.Weightman digging deep. A fantastic Silver Medal by Laura. Brilliant.
:00:16. > :00:19.GABBY LOGAN: What a race! We hoped that it would deliver and it did.
:00:20. > :00:24.That is Laura Weightman's mum there giving her the hug of her life. We
:00:25. > :00:30.will, of course, analyse this, I'm sure at length tomorrow, when we
:00:31. > :00:34.have more time with Paula Radcliffe and Steve Cram, a very proud Steve
:00:35. > :00:39.Cram as well. A wonderful run by Laura Weightman. Let's go back to
:00:40. > :00:44.Gary at Pacific Quay. Wasn't that great. That's it from us
:00:45. > :00:48.on BBC One. More reaction from the athletics, plus boxing,
:00:49. > :00:52.weightlifting, right now on BBC Two. See you there in about as long as it
:00:53. > :01:27.takes for a lap of honour. Bye for now.
:01:28. > :01:39.And it's about time that I did something about that.
:01:40. > :02:22.More than 100 Palestinians killed in the deadliest 24 hours in Gaza since
:02:23. > :02:23.the current conflict
