:00:50. > :00:52.variety here in Glasgow. We have some stunning gymnastics,

:00:53. > :00:55.spectacular diving, horrific boxing and three Olympic champions in track

:00:56. > :01:14.and field" Wolf story. You can coach had to jump further,

:01:15. > :01:21.run faster, throw further, but when the pressure is on and on time has

:01:22. > :01:28.come, will that be enough? The essence of the champion is something

:01:29. > :01:32.from within. You can't learn it, train for it or bottle it. It's what

:01:33. > :01:42.makes you who you are, blocking out those who stand in your way. What

:01:43. > :01:51.you know is yours and yours to take. You can't live in the past. The

:01:52. > :01:53.present is all that matters. New obstacles, new challenges, new

:01:54. > :01:58.surroundings, the price remains the same. -- the price. To be a

:01:59. > :02:10.champion. The top trio of Rutherford, Adams

:02:11. > :02:11.and James take centre stage but they are not the only big names in action

:02:12. > :02:20.tonight. In the men's 800 Metres, David

:02:21. > :02:33.Rudisha, star of London 2012. Northern Ireland's golden boy Paddy

:02:34. > :02:42.Barnes has his sights on a light flyweight semifinal spot. The

:02:43. > :02:48.English hopes in the gymnastics blue riband are led by Claudio cranky

:02:49. > :02:56.parley. But Lizzie Beddoe from Wales is also in the mix. It should be

:02:57. > :03:04.some light in the Hydro arena. -- some night.

:03:05. > :03:13.We will stop off with diving in a moment, and then we are at Hampden

:03:14. > :03:16.for the track and field after that. Just before eight, there is boxing

:03:17. > :03:22.then we are back to athletics for the men's 400 Metres final, then

:03:23. > :03:26.David Rudisha runs in the aged metres and we end with gymnastics

:03:27. > :03:29.and the women's all-around. -- the 800 Metres. Michael Johnson is at

:03:30. > :03:37.Hampden. We have to start with the event in

:03:38. > :03:42.which he still holds the world record, the 400 Metres. Amazing you

:03:43. > :03:48.still hold it but Kirani James is surely the man to watch tonight.

:03:49. > :03:54.Yes, he is. I think he will have his hands full. With the lane draw, he

:03:55. > :04:00.drew the outside lane, Lane 6. Martyn Rooney is in a great

:04:01. > :04:04.position, if we go back to last year, when Kirani James lost the

:04:05. > :04:09.World Championship to LaShawn Merritt, he got caught up in a

:04:10. > :04:15.situation where he was following LaShawn Merritt and got out of his

:04:16. > :04:20.race. I think this may bode well for him, he runs best when he runs his

:04:21. > :04:26.own race. There is no real content on his outside. But I think it is

:04:27. > :04:32.his to lose, I think he knows that and he is out for revenge for last

:04:33. > :04:38.year. What can we expect from Martyn Rooney? He ran well in qualifying. I

:04:39. > :04:42.certainly hope he can take advantage of this situation, he had a very

:04:43. > :04:48.good preliminary run, you followed it up with a really good semifinal

:04:49. > :04:53.yesterday where he was in control, and he was rewarded with a very good

:04:54. > :04:58.lane draw, Lane 5 just inside Kirani James. So everything is set up for

:04:59. > :05:02.him tonight and his attitude has been fantastic throughout these

:05:03. > :05:05.championships, he seems to be healthy and in the best shape we

:05:06. > :05:11.have seen him for a while. I would hope he can get a medal stop I think

:05:12. > :05:14.it's unrealistic to expect him to beat Kirani James unless something

:05:15. > :05:20.goes wrong with James or he gets it wrong, which we know he did last

:05:21. > :05:25.year. His beard is pretty impressive as well! You don't see too many of

:05:26. > :05:31.those in athletics! Do you think it could slow him down? Identikit will

:05:32. > :05:36.slow him down but it is very interesting, I like the look -- I

:05:37. > :05:40.don't think it will slow him down. It does along with the attitude, and

:05:41. > :05:47.maybe it's good luck for him. Whatever works! I was trying to

:05:48. > :05:50.think of some good runners with beards that were impressive and the

:05:51. > :06:03.only one we could come up with was Ed Moses. He had one for a while,

:06:04. > :06:09.Juantorena had one with an Afro, he ran the 400 and 800, you have to be

:06:10. > :06:13.tough to run those two! May be Martyn Rooney is onto something

:06:14. > :06:20.here. Looking forward to seeing David Rudisha tonight. You always

:06:21. > :06:24.get the question is a former athlete, who would you pay to see? I

:06:25. > :06:30.would pay to see him, he is a fantastic athlete. He runs the 800

:06:31. > :06:33.like lots of 800 Metres don't run it, many times at a championship

:06:34. > :06:40.like this you will see gamesmanship, you will see someone winning with a

:06:41. > :06:45.1.44, I don't expect that when he is in the race, he takes it out hard

:06:46. > :06:49.and runs the entire 800. He has had to come back from injuries. The

:06:50. > :06:53.other athletes in that field have been inconsistent whereas he has

:06:54. > :07:01.improved with every race this year. He won't be the Rudisha ran 1.40 in

:07:02. > :07:05.London, but he is getting into the best shape at the right time. We

:07:06. > :07:10.will join you later but we will start in the swimming pool. We have

:07:11. > :07:17.seen our fair share of diving, but hopefully what we will show you now

:07:18. > :07:21.will be more elegant. David Law was competing in the one metre

:07:22. > :07:25.springboard final and going into the final set of dives, Jaguar was in

:07:26. > :07:56.the lead. He has a chance of a medal for

:07:57. > :08:01.Jamaica in the one metre springboard for men here in Edinburgh. I

:08:02. > :08:10.wouldn't get too excited just yet, a lot of big names still to come but

:08:11. > :08:11.he is in a great position. Final dive for Langer. What a dive to

:08:12. > :08:22.finish! It has been quite frustrating for

:08:23. > :08:27.him, I imagine, but this is a sensational dive to finish on. He

:08:28. > :08:38.will get eights from the judges. I have only seen better from Jack

:08:39. > :08:41.Laugher. For those who have just joined us, the moment it looks like

:08:42. > :08:52.Jack Laugher is different territory and is on his way to a gold for

:08:53. > :08:59.England. It is so tight for the minor medals, we might possibly see

:09:00. > :09:05.a Jamaican medal, which would be a great credit to the city of Leeds.

:09:06. > :09:11.Liam Stone has had a great performance, finishing off with the

:09:12. > :09:17.reverse two and a half somersaults. Terrific dive from the 17-year-old

:09:18. > :09:26.Kiwi! Everyone has woken up in this last round! Up through the roof,

:09:27. > :09:36.beautiful wine into the water. Come on, judges. I know he's only 17, but

:09:37. > :09:41.look at that! 8.5s across the board. They don't produce many divers, New

:09:42. > :09:45.Zealand, been awhile since they have anybody on the world stage, but

:09:46. > :09:55.that's tremendous, really good from Liam Stone. Only 17 years of age. So

:09:56. > :10:09.much potential. The man currently in bronze medal position.

:10:10. > :10:17.What a dive! That is astonishing! I cannot believe that dive is possible

:10:18. > :10:24.on the one metre. When he needed it, that is right there. That man is

:10:25. > :10:29.going to get sevens on this dive, it is 3.6, goodness me, what a degree

:10:30. > :10:33.of difficulty. That is a medal for the Australian, for sure. Gets the

:10:34. > :10:51.job done. A lot depends on the remaining

:10:52. > :10:54.divers. Woodward is not in the mix, the evening has proved more

:10:55. > :11:01.difficult for the city of Sheffield diver. 3.1 the degree of difficulty,

:11:02. > :11:10.he will want to finish with a flourish.

:11:11. > :11:18.He does a good joke I am so impressed with, he was out there

:11:19. > :11:22.mixing it up this morning, a reflection of that on his inward to

:11:23. > :11:26.run the half, over rotating as he heads towards the water, he should

:11:27. > :11:34.be smiling, he is a star of the future. 6.5s across the board,

:11:35. > :11:38.multiplied by the degree of difficulty, gives you his final

:11:39. > :11:44.store. Now we are down to the sharp end of the final round. We know that

:11:45. > :11:54.Grant Nel has a medal. We don't know whether Chris Mears has.

:11:55. > :12:03.Outstanding! What a dive from Chris Mears! This is going to punch it

:12:04. > :12:07.right up, I have no idea whether this is going to be good enough for

:12:08. > :12:14.the podium. What a sensational final dive. It's going to be close to 400,

:12:15. > :12:23.not good enough to take out Grant Nel. I think that's a medal. It

:12:24. > :12:29.looks like bronze, probably, although we have Mitch to come and

:12:30. > :12:39.then we have checked temp two. -- Jack Laugher.

:12:40. > :12:51.Hello! Marvellous diver from Mitch. That is a magnificent final dive. So

:12:52. > :12:54.elegant. Two and a half twists, one and a half somersaults. That could

:12:55. > :13:05.be challenging his team-mate for the gold. He is very happy! It's all

:13:06. > :13:08.going off here. It's getting ridiculous. There are going to be

:13:09. > :13:18.two medals for Australia. Laugher needs just 31.75 marks to

:13:19. > :13:37.take the gold for England. A diving masterclass from this young

:13:38. > :13:43.Englishman. 19 years old, there is your Commonwealth champion, by a

:13:44. > :13:52.country mile. What a dive to finish from Jack. He is electric.

:13:53. > :13:57.We thought this morning was impressive, with thought this

:13:58. > :14:03.morning maybe couldn't be surpassed, he has done it by something

:14:04. > :14:12.ridiculous. That is truly world-class. He is a former world

:14:13. > :14:18.and European junior champion. He is now realising all that potential.

:14:19. > :14:24.Wisdom, congratulating him there, representing Jamaica, finishing in

:14:25. > :14:31.fifth place. In the end, only 12 points away from a medal, Chris

:14:32. > :14:39.Mears was seven points away. Jack Laugher, winning by a Street. Gold

:14:40. > :14:47.for England. Silver and bronze for Australia.

:14:48. > :14:52.Congratulations, Commonwealth champion, how does that feel?

:14:53. > :15:01.Absolutely amazing. I'm lost for words. This morning was great. To

:15:02. > :15:07.come out here and score almost 450 on one metre is amazing. I am

:15:08. > :15:16.ecstatic. You didn't do it the easy way, you kept us hanging on. With

:15:17. > :15:21.the nerves creeping Going last is hard so the first two were a bit

:15:22. > :15:28.shaky. As soon as I got into my rhythm, it went well. I am really,

:15:29. > :15:32.really happy. Bronze medal at the World Cup recently, or what is

:15:33. > :15:36.clicking? I am training hard, I have moved from home, I have my

:15:37. > :15:40.independence and I training full-time with my best friend Chris

:15:41. > :15:44.Mears. Bronze at the World Cup is amazing and to get Gold here is

:15:45. > :15:49.amazing. I am trying hard and it is paying off. Does this put the

:15:50. > :15:54.Olympics right? Definitely. It was tough doing that but I think you

:15:55. > :15:58.learn from your mistakes and make sure they never happen again. It was

:15:59. > :16:03.a horrible experience but I made the best out of it and I bounced back

:16:04. > :16:10.and got a double Gold at the Junior Championships. A three metre

:16:11. > :16:14.springboard, can you double up? Yes, and another with Chris. I would love

:16:15. > :16:19.to double up. I have not thought about it yet. So many thoughts in my

:16:20. > :16:28.head, I am so happy. I will try my hardest. Congratulations, well

:16:29. > :16:32.done, Commonwealth Gold. Thank you. Well done, indeed. A great

:16:33. > :16:38.performance. And England's Tonia Couch and Sarah Barrow won a silver

:16:39. > :16:46.medal in the synchronised ten metre but form. Canada took Gold. --

:16:47. > :16:53.platform. A great effort from the girls this

:16:54. > :17:00.morning. Laugher Silver medals round their necks. Great stuff. -- silver

:17:01. > :17:06.medals. And Tom Daley is in action on Friday. The ten metres

:17:07. > :17:11.synchronised final, he partners James Denny. And he will. The

:17:12. > :17:20.defence of his ten metre platform title on Saturday. -- start the

:17:21. > :17:25.defence. We will have that live. Saturday night is prime time,

:17:26. > :17:30.diving, Tom Daley, something is missing. I know!

:17:31. > :17:35.Very good! It is a shame you are busy on Saturday nights. Welcome to

:17:36. > :17:40.Hampden Park is for another fantastic athletics programme this

:17:41. > :17:44.evening. The sun was peeking through before and it has been a silver

:17:45. > :17:49.experience so far for England. They picked up silver medals yesterday

:17:50. > :17:56.and let's hope tonight has a Golden Globe, this is what is in store. --

:17:57. > :18:01.golden low. A golden boy from London, Greg Rutherford, the Olympic

:18:02. > :18:05.champion, in the long jump. We will bring you up to speed in a moment.

:18:06. > :18:09.He is the favourite, can the British record-holder hold it together best

:18:10. > :18:14.remark Eilish McColgan will feature in the steeplechase. -- hold it

:18:15. > :18:24.together? Come of it as a Commonwealth Gold medal winner. --

:18:25. > :18:31.home mother. Theisen-Eaton is in pole position for the 800 metres.

:18:32. > :18:39.And it is the women's javelin final featuring Goldie Sayers. And

:18:40. > :18:44.continuing with the golden theme, Olympic champion Kirani James.

:18:45. > :18:51.Martin Rooney is looking good for England. And David Rudisha, more

:18:52. > :19:01.Stardust to a fabulous line-up this evening. He is a crowd-pleaser. Greg

:19:02. > :19:05.Rutherford rogue the British record earlier this year and he has missed

:19:06. > :19:09.a couple of competitions -- broke. Let's see how he is getting on, with

:19:10. > :19:21.Steve. No matter what happens in future

:19:22. > :19:28.Olympic Games, nothing will come close to super Saturday. Everything

:19:29. > :19:34.went right and I got to experience the greatest moment of my life. As

:19:35. > :19:41.soon as I hit and I took off, and knew it was pretty good. It was the

:19:42. > :19:46.third best jump of my career. And it would take me on to becoming the

:19:47. > :19:57.Olympic champion, which is special and amazing. When you have done

:19:58. > :20:00.well, everybody expects you to do it every single time and no athlete in

:20:01. > :20:05.the world, possibly Usain Bolt, but apart from that, not many can get it

:20:06. > :20:10.right every time so when it does go wrong, you get more criticism and

:20:11. > :20:14.you have to deal with that and understand it. After the injury last

:20:15. > :20:19.year and how my body reacted at the World Championships, I was not sure

:20:20. > :20:26.if I would get back to the level I had been previously. How significant

:20:27. > :20:31.to you the Commonwealth Games? It is the biggest focus of 2014 and it is

:20:32. > :20:36.the focus since I came back from the injury, it has been going out in

:20:37. > :20:38.Glasgow and becoming the Commonwealth champion. Everything I

:20:39. > :20:57.am doing is geared towards winning. Jessica Tappin on the runway!

:20:58. > :21:02.The men's Long Jump final. First to go is England's Greg Rutherford, the

:21:03. > :21:07.Olympic champion. He must at his bit to become a Commonwealth champion.

:21:08. > :21:10.Joined by two English team-mates. The skies have cleared and the wind

:21:11. > :21:19.has dropped. Showtime for Greg Rutherford. Round

:21:20. > :21:49.one. The men's Long Jump final. He looks quick on the runway and

:21:50. > :21:55.that is beyond eight metres. That is over eight metres. Heart in my

:21:56. > :21:59.mouth. I could feel the tension at Hampden Park, a lot of expectation

:22:00. > :22:09.for Greg Rutherford. The lead qualifier here yesterday and he has

:22:10. > :22:17.improved on that John yesterday. That is a decent start. Dash-macro

:22:18. > :22:23.three. He has set the mark. -- jump. Crucial he gets close. He has 14

:22:24. > :22:32.centimetres to spare. That is very sensible. That is a decent

:22:33. > :22:36.benchmark. He knows who will have two improved but he normally does

:22:37. > :22:42.feel his way into a competition. -- he will have to improve. He knew a

:22:43. > :22:50.jump beyond eight metres was put on the pressure. -- would put on the

:22:51. > :22:53.pressure. This South African was very impressive in qualifications

:22:54. > :23:06.yesterday. He jumped beyond eight metres.

:23:07. > :23:13.Registe We can expect him to be one of the main challenges to Greg

:23:14. > :23:24.Rutherford -- we can expect. That looks very similar to Greg

:23:25. > :23:40.Rutherford. The 22-year-old South African. A decent start also for

:23:41. > :23:50.South Africa and Samaai. Great height of the board. Good

:23:51. > :23:56.discipline. No fouls yet. Three down, three clean. Great

:23:57. > :24:02.acceleration. Look at the height, very impressive indeed.

:24:03. > :24:15.England's Chris Tomlinson. Second attempt. Currently in eighth

:24:16. > :24:23.position with seven metres and 95. That is better. That looks maybe

:24:24. > :24:29.just over eight metres. It sounded good, and that is the white flag to

:24:30. > :24:37.say it was behind the plasticine. Chris is looking across. 7.99. It

:24:38. > :24:44.moves him up to fourth place, that is how tight it is this afternoon.

:24:45. > :24:57.People have to jump beyond eight metres to get a medal. -- he will

:24:58. > :25:03.have to jump. Somebody has to take this competition and it may be best

:25:04. > :25:10.man. Visser, of South Africa. It is big, from the South African. It is

:25:11. > :25:14.good on the board. You got the impression the athletes were saying,

:25:15. > :25:24.who fancies this? 8.124 Rutherford in the first mount -- in the first

:25:25. > :25:28.round is maybe not enough. -- 8.12 the Greg Rutherford. Quick on the

:25:29. > :25:37.approach. Good on the board. Good acceleration. Possibly more to come.

:25:38. > :25:42.And that is zero centimetres. That has got to be close to a foul. His

:25:43. > :25:49.toes were over the plasticine. But did not make a mark. The jump is

:25:50. > :25:54.legal. Round three, at this Long Jump

:25:55. > :26:01.final. Greg Rutherford has been stood at the back of this runway --

:26:02. > :26:09.round three of this Long Jump final. He is so keen. Look at that! He knew

:26:10. > :26:19.he could take that lead back. Slightly jumping into a headwind.

:26:20. > :26:25.Greg Rutherford was the road as soon as he saw that big jump from Visser.

:26:26. > :26:35.8.20. That has wrestled the lead back away from the South African.

:26:36. > :26:42.Greg Rutherford of England, at the start of the third round, is in the

:26:43. > :26:47.lead. At the halfway stage. Quick on the approach, very committed. He

:26:48. > :26:55.hits that board. He looks so confident. He absolutely was bang on

:26:56. > :27:07.where he wanted to be. Excellent acceleration, he ran off the board.

:27:08. > :27:17.8.20. Well done, Greg. So that takes him to the top of that standings.

:27:18. > :27:34.Visser the second. In South Africa it in third also. -- in third. Chris

:27:35. > :27:43.Tomlinson is capable. We think Henry Frain has withdrawn after a foul in

:27:44. > :27:47.the first round. He won his Gold in London and he

:27:48. > :27:51.became the British record-holder this year, and a .20 might be enough

:27:52. > :27:58.or will the South Africans pushed him -- 8.20?

:27:59. > :28:03.The South Africans look great and they are moving well on the runway

:28:04. > :28:11.but there is something about Greg this season.

:28:12. > :28:18.was criticised about not being able to jump at the Olympics. I think

:28:19. > :28:24.that played on his mind. Now he has that in the back, he can relax and

:28:25. > :28:29.he has looked good on the runway. How he transfers his speed into a

:28:30. > :28:35.vertical left gives him the distance. He is good at that. --

:28:36. > :28:42.left. His ability to respond under pressure, you have just seen. It was

:28:43. > :28:47.not last year, he was a bit injured and you sensed he was not feeling

:28:48. > :28:52.the love. Like he wanted to be appreciated more. And because that

:28:53. > :28:55.was not the greatest distance in the Olympic Games and that was

:28:56. > :29:00.mentioned, it is like he wants to back-up that Gold with another to

:29:01. > :29:06.say that it was not a one-off, he is the real deal and he will be in

:29:07. > :29:10.contention in two years. There are some athletes who as a result of the

:29:11. > :29:14.Olympic championship and everything that goes with that, there is a lot

:29:15. > :29:20.of expectation and some deal with it better than others. Greg had a lot

:29:21. > :29:25.of expectation after that and people felt, it was not the best Olympic

:29:26. > :29:32.championships for a Long Jump and may be it was a bit of a fluke. --

:29:33. > :29:37.may be. So he had a bit of a chip on his shoulder. I am not sure he

:29:38. > :29:40.handled it the right way and it spiralled out of control in

:29:41. > :29:46.negativity, and now he is trying to come back. He does have a bit of a

:29:47. > :29:47.motivation because of that. And sometimes that is what an athlete

:29:48. > :29:53.needs. On super Saturday, the sometimes that is what an athlete

:29:54. > :29:59.needs. On super Saturday, one that Gold and it was the most wonderful

:30:00. > :30:02.night. -- the one that Gold. He was part of history and remembered

:30:03. > :30:07.because of that and he will forever be part of that wonderful evening.

:30:08. > :30:13.And last year, people questioned his motivation, was he going to go down

:30:14. > :30:17.the route of appearing on celebrity television and he was enjoying that

:30:18. > :30:22.part of his life, but he is back with a vengeance. Really and

:30:23. > :30:25.yesterday when we saw him leaving after his qualification rounds and

:30:26. > :30:27.he was lapping up the attention from the crowd and signing autographs and

:30:28. > :30:39.enjoying being on form again. appreciating the crowd, who were a

:30:40. > :30:46.lot of people too young for his autograph and he just took his time

:30:47. > :30:49.to do that. -- queueing up. The fact he won on super Saturday was

:30:50. > :30:53.double-edged because he will always be part of that moment in history

:30:54. > :30:59.and it was a very special day for British athletes but at the same

:31:00. > :31:02.time, he was also a bit overshadowed because Jess was the nation 's

:31:03. > :31:07.sweetheart and she was used in all of the campaigns, and she delivered

:31:08. > :31:13.and fully deserved that. She got a huge amount of recognition and

:31:14. > :31:16.publicity because of that, and Mo Farah accomplished something that

:31:17. > :31:19.had never been done before, so in some way, those two

:31:20. > :31:24.had never been done before, so in some way, those kind of upstaged

:31:25. > :31:27.Greg in a way that was unfair, because all you can do is beat who

:31:28. > :31:33.is there on the day and deliver the best performance in matters which is

:31:34. > :31:41.what he did. Sometimes, there is an expectation after winning the gold

:31:42. > :31:47.medal, and it doesn't always happen. Not only in athletics. We had a very

:31:48. > :31:52.successful games all round, people needed to digest that, and he did a

:31:53. > :31:57.lot of celebrity stuff, and that's fine to stop but in a way that is

:31:58. > :32:06.good for athletics, it puts it in the mainstream, which it has done to

:32:07. > :32:11.an extent. I think it ended up backfiring on him because of exactly

:32:12. > :32:14.what they said, you have to understand the situation you are in,

:32:15. > :32:22.there are different levels of Olympic champions. It's like the 100

:32:23. > :32:29.Metres, the heptathlon for Jess was like the 100 Metres. For Mo Farah,

:32:30. > :32:33.the double was like the 100 Metres. When you are the 100 Metres

:32:34. > :32:38.champion, lots of things come to you. The Long Jump is not that kind

:32:39. > :32:42.of event and it's unfortunate for Greg that he expected those things

:32:43. > :32:47.to come to him and he expected, I am an Olympic champion on par with Mo

:32:48. > :32:53.Farah and Jess Ennis, I should be. But that's not how the public or

:32:54. > :32:57.media are going to see it. He is going to be a father this year as

:32:58. > :33:02.well, things going very well in his private life. And there we have a

:33:03. > :33:11.show called, lining up the 3000 metres steeplechase. -- Eilish

:33:12. > :33:14.McColgan. She needs to look no further than her mother for

:33:15. > :33:21.inspiration as to how to win a Commonwealth medal, 1986. Huge

:33:22. > :33:32.inspiration from her mother and also her father, he still holds the

:33:33. > :33:37.Northern Irish record for that. Here she is, winning a Commonwealth title

:33:38. > :33:44.back in 1986. They don't look alike but they're running style... It is

:33:45. > :33:57.very similar. When I see a leash training, I just think, you are so

:33:58. > :34:03.much like your mum. She has battled back this year, she has had a rough

:34:04. > :34:07.year. She finding form. I know you went to see her last year, she came

:34:08. > :34:11.ninth in the World Championships and things were looking up for her but

:34:12. > :34:13.the heart palpitations and the training has not gone as she would

:34:14. > :34:18.have liked but she is in front of training has not gone as she would

:34:19. > :34:22.have liked but her own crowd. She has a strong line-up, the Kenyans,

:34:23. > :34:26.absolutely imperious at the steeplechase. Let's join the

:34:27. > :34:40.commentary team. A very proud Rachael Bamford as

:34:41. > :34:49.well, running for England. O Flaherty, going for Northern

:34:50. > :35:00.Ireland. These introductions, surely having an inspirational effect on

:35:01. > :35:05.these home home countries runners. Kipkemoi, by no means guaranteed to

:35:06. > :35:07.get a medal despite the great pedigree of the Kenyans. Another

:35:08. > :35:20.young lady who was delighted to be here, Philippa Woolven. Victoria

:35:21. > :35:24.Mitchell from Australia. And just listen to the rule for Lennie Waite.

:35:25. > :35:41.-- the raw. It has been a troubled year for

:35:42. > :35:43.Eilish, I am not sure what sort of performance we are going to get from

:35:44. > :35:45.her. Eilish, I am not sure what sort of

:35:46. > :35:51.performance At her best, she is our number one steeplechaser. She would

:35:52. > :36:01.have dreamt of this moment for a couple of years.

:36:02. > :36:09.The women's 3000 metres steeplechase final. Just over seven and a half

:36:10. > :36:18.laps of the track, the water jump is on the inside. The first time round,

:36:19. > :36:26.they miss it out. These three Kenyan athlete, they have the defending

:36:27. > :36:37.champion, and this event, only the third time it has been contested in

:36:38. > :36:41.the Commonwealth Games. Kirui is a former world junior champion. And

:36:42. > :36:50.the rather not this figure of Kipkemoi. It hasn't taken very long

:36:51. > :36:57.for the Kenyan female athletes to dominate this event like they do the

:36:58. > :37:03.men's event. Just looking at the back straight there, the crowd are

:37:04. > :37:12.getting really excited here, watching Eilish McColgan and Lennie

:37:13. > :37:14.Waite representing Scotland. Thereafter we could Australian

:37:15. > :37:21.athletes in this field, but the class of the field, probably the

:37:22. > :37:32.best in the last few years is Cheywa of Kenya. They are just keeping the

:37:33. > :37:38.pace how they wanted. Watch Eilish the water jump, she doesn't touch

:37:39. > :37:44.the barrier, but I think that motor down when she hits the other end. --

:37:45. > :37:49.slows down. A little bit of a handicap. At the back of the field,

:37:50. > :37:55.they talk about the Commonwealth Games and it is the friendly games

:37:56. > :38:00.but it's such a target the people, Rachael Bamford only just took up

:38:01. > :38:03.the steeplechase this year. She has improved 30 seconds already this

:38:04. > :38:09.year to go under ten minutes for the first time recently. What a chance

:38:10. > :38:13.for her. Imagine the start of the season, thinking about running local

:38:14. > :38:18.events, and then you find yourself at the Commonwealth Games. That's

:38:19. > :38:23.what it's all about, to have these athletes, to give them the taste of

:38:24. > :38:28.the international stage. A lot of them are inspired to move on to a

:38:29. > :38:36.new level. The pace, moving along steadily. At this point looks solid,

:38:37. > :38:41.not to excessively quick, there is Eilish McColgan, hurdling well. As

:38:42. > :38:48.they come into the water, she moves on to the outside, running fairly

:38:49. > :38:53.strongly, and I always watch her technique at the water. She doesn't

:38:54. > :39:02.touch the barrier, and always loses ground at every point. Still the

:39:03. > :39:08.early stages. McColgan at the back of the lead group. A busy night here

:39:09. > :39:10.at Hampden. Track and field finals. We will find out what is going on

:39:11. > :39:16.now in the High Jump. Second attempt at 2.25 for Chris

:39:17. > :39:32.Baker. Didn't look so good as his first

:39:33. > :39:41.attempt but very good on his second. Three other men have gone clear on

:39:42. > :39:44.the first attempt. The Englishman, the only one from the home countries

:39:45. > :39:55.left in this competition, finds himself in fourth place.

:39:56. > :40:04.He has had three jumps so far, first-time clearances at all of

:40:05. > :40:15.them. This should be a formality and it is. A huge favourite to take the

:40:16. > :40:19.title here. Just look at this, perfect High Jump technique,

:40:20. > :40:23.considered to be one of the best technicians in the world. The

:40:24. > :40:34.standard, very, very high. Four laps to go, three Kenyans and

:40:35. > :40:38.three Australians pulling away, you don't often say that in a

:40:39. > :40:42.steeplechase. The very talented Lacaze, with the blonde hair, and on

:40:43. > :40:51.the inside, the Tory Mitchell, hanging onto this Kenyan trio.

:40:52. > :40:56.Eilish McColgan, just trying to get back onto them, if she can stay with

:40:57. > :41:06.them, I think one of the Kenyans is not as good as the other two.

:41:07. > :41:09.Kipkemoi is vulnerable. I think the Australians know that, they have

:41:10. > :41:16.been thinking about that, 06 athletes pulling away from Eilish

:41:17. > :41:20.McColgan, she is going through a bit of a bad patch. She has had a really

:41:21. > :41:23.tough year, with the heart palpitations, you don't know how

:41:24. > :41:34.that will affect you when you are running. Once again, McColgan not

:41:35. > :41:45.going brilliantly over the water. Kirui, probably the second best in

:41:46. > :41:48.this field. The Australian team of three, with Victoria Mitchell of the

:41:49. > :42:00.back of the group, trying to hang onto the Kenyans. They are giving

:42:01. > :42:06.them a run for their money. Purity Kirui, the former world junior

:42:07. > :42:11.champion. On the outside, the defending champion, Cheywa, she

:42:12. > :42:20.finished third in the Diamond League. It shows you can get amongst

:42:21. > :42:23.the African runners in this event. Eilish McColgan, still working

:42:24. > :42:30.hard, leading the British challenge but it's a challenge which is a

:42:31. > :42:35.distant one now. No chance of living with the Australians, who are mixing

:42:36. > :42:41.it up here. Victoria Mitchell just dropping off the back of that pack

:42:42. > :42:45.now. Lacaze beat her team-mate Heiner recently and she might be

:42:46. > :42:50.hoping as they get to the latter stages, you start to think about

:42:51. > :42:54.medals now, you are in this group and yes, there is real Kenyan talent

:42:55. > :43:02.there but now they start to believe a little bit. Heiner, not overawed

:43:03. > :43:10.at all. Cheywa, with the strapping on her leg, she is starting to move

:43:11. > :43:17.to the front with Kirui. There is McColgan and Woolven and Bamford,

:43:18. > :43:23.all the running together. That will be another race. McColgan, hurdling

:43:24. > :43:25.well over the barriers. The three Kenyans, settling in the first three

:43:26. > :43:37.positions. Just a gradual wearing down of the

:43:38. > :43:42.field. Now Lacaze looks like she might be the only wanted to stay

:43:43. > :43:50.with the Kenyans, Heiner starts to get under pressure. The Australians,

:43:51. > :43:56.doing a great job here of getting amongst the Kenyans and the weaker

:43:57. > :44:02.of the three, Kipkemoi, is showing that she has got something here,

:44:03. > :44:10.with less than 600 to go. A variety of techniques in the water jump, and

:44:11. > :44:13.Heiner was the most effective. Kipkemoi, the weakest of the three

:44:14. > :44:25.Kenyans in terms of her personal best time, instructing off the back

:44:26. > :44:31.but Cheywa, now hitting the front. She will try to attack and lead

:44:32. > :44:37.here. Heiner of Australia, running powerfully in second. That's a

:44:38. > :44:43.really decent performance in that second place by the other Kenyan.

:44:44. > :44:47.Medals, still not settled here. Kirui hits the front now, a

:44:48. > :44:53.resurgent Kipkemoi trying to go with her team-mates, the defending

:44:54. > :44:59.champion moves back onto the shoulder of Kirui, the Australian

:45:00. > :45:00.athletes still have a chance. With 200 to go, the defending champion

:45:01. > :45:18.moves ahead with Kirui. to go. The Gold medal is to be

:45:19. > :45:26.decided between the defending champion and Kirui. Cheywa moves out

:45:27. > :45:35.wide. Kirui tries to kick hard on the inside. Kirui kicks away. Gold

:45:36. > :45:42.for Kirui. Kipkemoi just holds of the Australian. And Lady Makro with

:45:43. > :45:48.a resurgent Rachel Bamford of England behind her -- a Liz

:45:49. > :45:59.McColgan. Another big personal best, congratulations. -- Lady Makro. A

:46:00. > :46:03.brave front given the season she has had. Never able to come to be used

:46:04. > :46:09.championships in the shape she would have liked to contest. The winning

:46:10. > :46:14.time is around 9.30. That is a race I am sure she would think she will

:46:15. > :46:23.one day be able to run that time, but not today. One, two and three

:46:24. > :46:28.for Kenyan -- Kenya. And a brave effort by Australia. A difficult

:46:29. > :46:44.time for McColgan but she acquitted herself well. That is a time she can

:46:45. > :46:49.approach. She will think, if I had had a chance, I could be amongst it.

:46:50. > :46:55.So the champion was beaten by her team-mate. Those are the three

:46:56. > :47:08.Kenyans. As we expected. Not the result we expected. That is the

:47:09. > :47:21.result. The Australian first. A favourite second. The reigning

:47:22. > :47:27.champion. World Champion last year at the injury has hampered her. But

:47:28. > :47:32.Cheywa is out to win this. Look how smoothly Kirui runs past her. Good

:47:33. > :47:38.acceleration. A good hurdle on the back straight by career. Cheywa is

:47:39. > :47:42.working hard to defend that title. The three Kenyans are racing and

:47:43. > :47:50.pulling away. But a brave effort from the two Australians. Another

:47:51. > :47:55.affect -- attempt by the Australian. Watch the water jump and the

:47:56. > :48:02.techniques. Look how they literally split the field. This is Kirui.

:48:03. > :48:09.Cheywa on the outside. A bit of a slip from Kipkemoi. The Australian

:48:10. > :48:12.under pressure now. What a battle! The two Kenya is, the defending

:48:13. > :48:20.champion on the outside hits the front and tries to what -- to run

:48:21. > :48:25.away. -- the two Kenyans. Kirui on the inside it's the World Champion,

:48:26. > :48:30.another Gold medal for Kenya. -- beats. The defending champion came

:48:31. > :48:34.here and she gave it her best shot which he was not good enough today.

:48:35. > :48:48.-- but she was not. I wonder how that experience was,

:48:49. > :48:53.this was a massive part of your year and you performed admirably. At the

:48:54. > :48:58.start of the year, I did not think I would be racing. I have had one will

:48:59. > :49:05.-- one illness after another. I am racing, fit and healthy, I could not

:49:06. > :49:08.be happier to be here. My mum and dad are in the stadium and they will

:49:09. > :49:12.be proud of me and the fact I have made it. It was not as good as what

:49:13. > :49:16.I would have liked tonight that it is still the quickest I have run all

:49:17. > :49:21.year. It is definitely an improvement, maybe just I have run

:49:22. > :49:27.out of time for this championship. Rachel, how was it for you? Amazing,

:49:28. > :49:37.I cannot put it into words. What a crowd! Uke -- you have, in strides,

:49:38. > :49:47.congratulations to you both. --, and in strides. -- you have come on in

:49:48. > :49:52.strides. That is Laura Weightman of England.

:49:53. > :50:01.And only one person we need to speak to, Steve Cram. Have you recovered?

:50:02. > :50:06.Sorry! I was trying to watch Laura. Her mum and dad were here, they have

:50:07. > :50:13.run away. It was great last night and Laura did incredibly well. We

:50:14. > :50:17.are so proud of her, as is Northumberland. And everybody who

:50:18. > :50:24.has worked with her. Andy Henderson, he has helped with her conditioning.

:50:25. > :50:29.And her physiotherapist. There is always a team of people behind any

:50:30. > :50:33.athlete and her mother and father and family who are so proud of her.

:50:34. > :50:38.She did a great race last night and is rewarded with the silver medal.

:50:39. > :50:56.She had a great lap of honour last night. I will take her back to the

:50:57. > :50:58.hotel and by her a burger tonight! The Gold medal once again going to

:50:59. > :51:58.that great African running nation. Steve, I have heard you talking in

:51:59. > :52:05.the last 24 hours about the plan you put in place with Laura and the

:52:06. > :52:09.strategy. How she was to cope with that. It is one thing telling an

:52:10. > :52:15.athlete that but delivering it must be very satisfying as a coach

:52:16. > :52:20.because she raised with great intelligence last night. She did and

:52:21. > :52:25.I was teasing Jonathan and saying we like to say that 1,500 metre runner

:52:26. > :52:30.is the most intelligent. It is not one plan, you need an awareness of

:52:31. > :52:35.what might happen. If you go hard from the beginning, what do you do?

:52:36. > :52:42.The Kenyans might go slow, what do? We talked a lot about 500m to go, if

:52:43. > :52:51.nothing has happened, you go. Have a go. If you feel like it, though to

:52:52. > :53:00.the front. -- go to the front. Medals won and lost high temps of a

:53:01. > :53:06.second. She saw an opportunity. -- by temps. It was a case of being

:53:07. > :53:11.strong. She followed Kibiegon around and was rewarded with the silver

:53:12. > :53:16.medal. So much progress in the two years since we saw her in the London

:53:17. > :53:19.Olympics. How much further can you go in the next two years to

:53:20. > :53:25.translate these medals and the global stage? The first time you

:53:26. > :53:31.have a chance at the major championships, you learn a lot of.

:53:32. > :53:37.She has got stronger. -- you learn a lot. She got injured at the trials

:53:38. > :53:43.last year. She is a really strong girl mentally. That gives you a lot

:53:44. > :53:48.to work with because she can train hard, a lot of people can train

:53:49. > :53:52.hard, it is translating that into this arena. Standing on the start

:53:53. > :53:57.line and thinking you can do it. This is a tough event. The standard

:53:58. > :54:01.is high in the world and if she wants to continue to be competitive

:54:02. > :54:05.in finals, she will have to keep training harder and getting better.

:54:06. > :54:09.We can do that bit but it is up to her in the arena and she showed

:54:10. > :54:15.everybody watching that she can do that when it matters.

:54:16. > :54:20.Congratulations again. I think she got a lot of fans last night. She

:54:21. > :54:22.has such a brave approach to the race and that sheer determination.

:54:23. > :54:26.Let's remind ourselves how she did it.

:54:27. > :54:37.12 women, two world-class Kenyans, they are the favourites. Can anybody

:54:38. > :54:41.else get among them? The two Kenyans in front. Kibiegon. There is a

:54:42. > :54:50.struggle behind them. Hannah England. Kibiegon kicking from the

:54:51. > :54:57.front. Can they chased them down? Canada is coming through. Kibiegon

:54:58. > :55:03.takes the Gold. Laura Weightman the silver. The Canadian,

:55:04. > :55:07.congratulations. She gets the bronze. What a performance and what

:55:08. > :55:15.a delightful Laura Weightman! Yet another silver for England at

:55:16. > :55:20.Hampden Park, will they turn those into Gold medals tonight? Greg

:55:21. > :55:23.Rutherford could do that, he has just had his fourth jump. Over to

:55:24. > :55:33.Steve Backley. And you, and Greg has taken control

:55:34. > :55:40.of this. He led from the start -- thank you. Visser as to question and

:55:41. > :55:50.he responded. This is the fourth round. -- he asked a question. This

:55:51. > :55:58.was a better job. 8.30. But it was a red flag. Look at how close this is.

:55:59. > :56:02.That is the cross, it will not be measured. That is a shame because

:56:03. > :56:08.that may have put the competition out of reach of the rest of the

:56:09. > :56:14.Commonwealth athletes. Excellent execution. He is the best on the

:56:15. > :56:24.runway. -2 centimetres, that is so close. He is the best technician and

:56:25. > :56:28.as a result, he is in the lead. Two more to go, we will keep you

:56:29. > :56:37.up-to-date with that and the men's High Jump. But back to Gary.

:56:38. > :56:44.A change of direction now. Gymnastics. Always great. Coming up

:56:45. > :56:48.live later, the conclusion of the women's all-round final. But the

:56:49. > :56:54.men's individual title has been decided in spectacular style.

:56:55. > :57:02.The men's individual all-round final.

:57:03. > :57:12.To the gymnasts, he has been tipped as the champion already. Starting

:57:13. > :57:17.his all-round competition in exactly the way he would have wanted. They

:57:18. > :57:24.call the pommelhorse the great leveller, to him, it is just a piece

:57:25. > :57:32.of apparatus. World class from Daniel Keatings, look at the smile!

:57:33. > :57:35.He can swing, this young man. He is looking unaffected by everything

:57:36. > :57:43.going on around him. The leader so far, Max Whitlock. And how important

:57:44. > :58:00.is this fault for Scotland's Daniel Keatings? The medal could well

:58:01. > :58:07.within reach. -- the medal could well be within reach. He really is

:58:08. > :58:20.focused. He is looking so classy. It could not have been any better! Yes!

:58:21. > :58:28.He is absolutely nailing all six pieces of apparatus. And he has just

:58:29. > :58:38.landed on a Gold medal. Some goals to England's Max

:58:39. > :58:45.Whitlock, silver for Dan Keating is and bronze denial Wilson -- and

:58:46. > :58:52.bronze goes to Nile Wilson. -- so the Gold goes to. Beth Tweddle joins

:58:53. > :58:58.us, along with matt baker. That was a spectacular competition, and Max

:58:59. > :59:05.Whitlock is a star! He is world-class. You put in a score of

:59:06. > :59:10.over 90, that is a very exclusive club on the world stage -- he put

:59:11. > :59:16.in. I am still reeling from this. It was just sensational. It was such an

:59:17. > :59:23.amazing atmosphere. Max had all the pressure but he withheld it and he

:59:24. > :59:28.just commanded from the beginning. Daniel Keatings, it was so important

:59:29. > :59:35.to come and to prove himself. He has had so many important injuries and

:59:36. > :59:41.this was important for him and he just delivered. -- serious injuries.

:59:42. > :59:52.Especially as he was left out for the Olympics. This map X Whitlock

:59:53. > :59:55.getting to -- is Max Whitlock a challenger in the World

:59:56. > :00:00.Championships? Very much so, he has worked so hard. A lot of this award

:00:01. > :00:09.have rested on their laurels. But Max is only 20 -- on what of the

:00:10. > :00:16.squad. He has worked his way up. He is still a bit of the top pace but

:00:17. > :00:33.at 21, he has got a future ahead of him.

:00:34. > :00:42.They know in the back of their minds, they have tried a lot of new

:00:43. > :00:48.stuff in preparation for the World Championships and then are looking

:00:49. > :00:56.ahead to reopen in 2016. The women are in action soon, can they emulate

:00:57. > :00:59.the man? I think they can. How top qualifier will be going out there.

:01:00. > :01:05.I'm not sure she will feel the pressure. Then you have Hannah

:01:06. > :01:18.Whelan who has done so many all-around competitions. And the

:01:19. > :01:25.Ruby Harold. You have seen your legacy, they must all be inspired by

:01:26. > :01:28.you. The generation before me started to make finals, I then got a

:01:29. > :01:32.medal and showed the younger generation that with a lot of hard

:01:33. > :01:40.work and determination and focus, you can achieve it, now they are

:01:41. > :01:44.taking it on. It's very important in the sport, when you have people

:01:45. > :01:50.being successful, youngsters want to go out there and be like them. No

:01:51. > :01:54.doubt about it. You have so many world finalists, Olympic medallists

:01:55. > :01:59.in that British team, to have them around you, the older lads are

:02:00. > :02:03.getting involved in the coaching, so when I tell you that the juniors,

:02:04. > :02:08.the quality of those lads, it's out of this world. Wilson is a good

:02:09. > :02:14.example of that, he has been up in the senior ranks for a couple of

:02:15. > :02:22.weeks. He posted a near 87 in qualifying. It is just so exciting.

:02:23. > :02:28.I cannot wait for the next few years. We are looking forward to

:02:29. > :02:36.going back to you later, thank you both for now. We will have the last

:02:37. > :02:42.two apparatus at around 9:15 p.m.. It begins on BBC Three at about 815.

:02:43. > :02:51.Here are some headlines from day seven.

:02:52. > :02:54.Nicola Adams guaranteed herself a medal by easing into the women's

:02:55. > :03:13.flyweight semifinal. Flyweight Michaela Walsh will also

:03:14. > :03:20.be in the semifinals of. Her opponent's day job was a prosecutor.

:03:21. > :03:30.It was a closer affair for her team-mate. But the Northern Ireland

:03:31. > :03:39.show fighter found her way through. She has also secured a medal.

:03:40. > :03:40.Staying with boxing, Paddy Barnes was fighting a Papua New Guinean

:03:41. > :03:54.opponent. Pretty impressive opening round, he

:03:55. > :04:03.has produced all the way through this particular tournament.

:04:04. > :04:08.First Irish boxer to win medals at successive Olympics, aiming to be

:04:09. > :04:15.the first Northern Ireland boxer to win successive golds. If he gets

:04:16. > :04:23.through, he would be the fifth Northern for the semifinals. Four

:04:24. > :04:27.years ago, Northern Ireland ended up with five medals, three gold medal

:04:28. > :04:39.is and two silvers. Would you bet against gold here? If you watch him,

:04:40. > :04:41.there is more holes in his opponent's guard. With Barnes, he's

:04:42. > :04:53.difficult to get through. There are a few openings for Barnes

:04:54. > :05:01.to land, and land he does on the inside there. He has got good

:05:02. > :05:06.timing. He's just a little bit leaky with the god, this man in red.

:05:07. > :05:13.Having a bit more success there in the second round, but Barnes getting

:05:14. > :05:20.back. Seems to have all the time in the world, Paddy Barnes. He just

:05:21. > :05:24.eases out of the way. Barnes for books like this all day long,

:05:25. > :05:29.especially if the southpaw doesn't want to move. You will find the gaps

:05:30. > :05:42.in his guard. He is working very well with that left up to the body.

:05:43. > :05:49.A great right-hander to the head, he has really hurt him. That has got to

:05:50. > :05:54.be account. We were just talking about how good his left to the body

:05:55. > :06:04.was. What short, little, destructive right hand he produced. And another

:06:05. > :06:08.one. This could well be stopped. Paddy Barnes stopped his first

:06:09. > :06:15.opponent in the opening round. He is threatening to do it earlier here. I

:06:16. > :06:29.am sure one more will call the end of it. There is still time. Bit of

:06:30. > :06:36.frustration there from Barnes, wants to get on with it. His change of

:06:37. > :06:44.tactic to stand and trade with Barnes is an awful one. Keama keeps

:06:45. > :06:48.getting caught. Hattie got one more to settle it completely? He has got

:06:49. > :06:54.him again with the right hand. He may just survive, Keama. Barnes has

:06:55. > :07:05.put in a blistering third minute of this round. Terrific little display

:07:06. > :07:08.there from Barnes. Just waiting for his opportunities and taking them.

:07:09. > :07:13.Caught his opportunities and taking them. Court the combinations were

:07:14. > :07:18.good. They will be more than pleased in his corner. This man will find

:07:19. > :07:24.his way through, he waits, he is patient. What a belting shop that

:07:25. > :07:34.was. It started the ball rolling. Then he will work to the body. This

:07:35. > :07:41.is right at the end of the round, five, six, seven shots going

:07:42. > :07:49.through. A good display from Barnes. Doesn't get any better than those

:07:50. > :07:55.scores. Such was Barnes's superiority, there was no option.

:07:56. > :07:58.Third and final round. The defending gold wedding list from Delhi four

:07:59. > :08:07.years ago in this light flyweight division, Paddy Barnes has boxed

:08:08. > :08:11.from September in the higher division, the 52 kilograms

:08:12. > :08:14.division, was rated number three in the flyweight division in the

:08:15. > :08:23.world, he is now back to the weight he enjoys the most. Barnes, in blue,

:08:24. > :08:27.has been the better boxer all the way against the man who had his

:08:28. > :08:36.moments in the second round, Charles Keama from Papua New Guinea. What a

:08:37. > :08:42.right-hander! Barnes raises his hand aloft. I don't know that he is badly

:08:43. > :08:49.hurt. The referee has the look in his eyes. Back they come again. I

:08:50. > :08:53.think if Barnes does it again, he will have to stop it. That is

:08:54. > :09:02.exactly what happened to his first opponent. It's the quality and the

:09:03. > :09:05.accuracy of the shots. Lots of blows coming in from Keama but none of

:09:06. > :09:10.them hitting the target. Whereas Barnes waits for his opportunity,

:09:11. > :09:17.and then he strikes. Gets him again with the right hand. Keama took that

:09:18. > :09:28.one well, he has taken them all well. The very tired boxer from

:09:29. > :09:35.Papua New Guinea. Into the second half of this third and last round,

:09:36. > :09:42.it has been Barnes all the way. 10-9 all the judges in the first, 10-8

:09:43. > :09:49.all the judges in the second. Keama chose the wrong tactics, I think.

:09:50. > :09:57.The referee is going to stop it soon. He is getting more and more

:09:58. > :10:07.tired. Andy has stopped. -- and he has stopped it.

:10:08. > :10:15.beat. Very economical in his style, destructive and clever punching all

:10:16. > :10:19.the way through. Charles Keama, who came through against a boxer from

:10:20. > :10:24.Botswana, has been simply outclassed by Paddy Barnes who is in sparkling

:10:25. > :10:33.form. It's the precision of his work. Very quick, accurate, he has

:10:34. > :10:35.got power. His opponent got more and more tired and the gaps started to

:10:36. > :10:48.appear. Punch perfect. I think we can describe that as

:10:49. > :10:51.emphatic! So he's guaranteed bronze and could well win Northern

:10:52. > :10:56.Ireland's first win of the games. Boxing is one of the sports that

:10:57. > :10:59.gives double medals for third place, there are all sorts of numbers and

:11:00. > :11:05.statistics but my favourite is the games Village housekeeping staff

:11:06. > :11:11.expect to change 3600 bed sheets every day. A lot of male athletes

:11:12. > :11:33.will be astonished to hear that the sheet can be changed every day!

:11:34. > :11:47.Nobody is catching the world champion! Kirani James is going to

:11:48. > :11:58.take Olympic gold! Total dominance. That is coming up at 8:30 p.m.. Very

:11:59. > :12:02.soon, though, the final act, the seventh event of the heptathlon.

:12:03. > :12:27.Let's remind you how it has gone. Already you see, moving away from

:12:28. > :12:33.the rest, Zelinka. The time for Zelinka, 12.4.

:12:34. > :12:37.The initial athletes know that the bronze medal is up for grabs. -- the

:12:38. > :12:47.English athletes. Theisen-Eaton, huge favourite to

:12:48. > :13:26.take the title here. Good clearance. The two Canadians, way out in front.

:13:27. > :13:27.The three English athletes try and get amongst it, last event of day

:13:28. > :13:33.one in the heptathlon. That is a very impressive run from

:13:34. > :14:22.Theisen-Eaton. events down, the seventh is upon us,

:14:23. > :14:33.it is the 800 Metres. This is the woman who is going to

:14:34. > :14:37.win gold barring a miracle in the 800 Metres from someone else.

:14:38. > :14:43.Theisen-Eaton has dominated from start to finish. She leads by a

:14:44. > :14:51.handsome margin and she's a very good 800 Metres runner. Jessica

:14:52. > :14:52.Taylor, in bronze medal position, although Slack could get there if

:14:53. > :15:07.she beats by five seconds or more. Sometimes, personal bests for

:15:08. > :15:10.heptathlon in the contributors can live a bit. But we know

:15:11. > :15:28.Theisen-Eaton is going to win and Zelinka is going to get the sober.

:15:29. > :15:38.We knew the Canadians would run away with this. The surprise package has

:15:39. > :15:46.been Jessica Taylor, of England. This is the seventh event, the 800m.

:15:47. > :15:48.with this. The surprise package has been Jessica Taylor, of Jessica

:15:49. > :15:49.Taylor, if you had told her at the start of this year that she would be

:15:50. > :15:51.lining up ready to run the 800m for it runs medal, she would not have

:15:52. > :15:56.believed you because she has improved. Jessica Taylor to the left

:15:57. > :16:04.of the screen. And this is a wonderful informants. --

:16:05. > :16:10.performance. She has been horrific. The Canadians have set the pace,

:16:11. > :16:15.very talented 800-metre runners. All Jessica Taylor has to do is not let

:16:16. > :16:24.the Jamaican in front of her get too far in front. Five seconds is a

:16:25. > :16:31.decent space so she is in the bronze medal position at the moment. Slack

:16:32. > :16:39.opening the gap a little. That is the gap and that is not bigger --

:16:40. > :16:51.big enough at the moment to close the gap. Tappin Stan well of

:16:52. > :16:58.Australia needs only eight seconds -- Stan well. This is going to be

:16:59. > :17:05.tight. Jessica Tappin get the roles of the crowd. Theisen-Eaton says,

:17:06. > :17:10.this victory is mine. Ash the roar of the crowd. She takes the overall

:17:11. > :17:15.victory. Jessica Taylor will get there, she will get the bronze

:17:16. > :17:20.medal. Slack crosses now. Jessica Taylor collapses in a heat but the

:17:21. > :17:27.Gold belongs to this woman from start to finish as her compatriot

:17:28. > :17:32.Damian Warner did in the decathlon, Canada have ruled in the

:17:33. > :17:44.Commonwealth Games in these events. England have a bronze medal. But the

:17:45. > :17:48.Gold goes to Theisen-Eaton. We have talked about the legacy of different

:17:49. > :17:54.athletes and in the wake of Denise Lewis, Gold medallist in this event,

:17:55. > :17:58.we have seen Jessica Ennis, and Katrina Johnson-Thompson.

:17:59. > :18:05.Disappointed, it you cannot help thinking you would have loved her to

:18:06. > :18:09.run away with victory. And Morgan Lake in the world juniors. But

:18:10. > :18:16.congratulations to Jessica Taylor for taking the bronze. I am sure it

:18:17. > :18:29.would have been a good contest with Katarina Johnson-Thompson. Jessica

:18:30. > :18:38.Zelinka takes the silver medal in Jessica Taylor the bronze medal. --

:18:39. > :18:42.and Jessica Taylor. And it helps to be called Jessica if

:18:43. > :18:46.you want to be successful in the heptathlon! But she is Theisen-Eaton

:18:47. > :18:52.and she has Gold at last. Denise Lewis, a silver-medallist indoors

:18:53. > :18:57.and outdoors in the world, which she has got a Gold medal today. It would

:18:58. > :19:01.have been a fantastic contest with Katarina Johnson-Thompson which you

:19:02. > :19:07.can only perform your best across those seven disciplines -- at. You

:19:08. > :19:11.have to keep away from anybody with designs on your Gold. Going into a

:19:12. > :19:18.competition as favourite does not help when you would have loved that

:19:19. > :19:24.battle. We spoke to her husband, the world-record holder for the

:19:25. > :19:28.decathlon, and he said she was gutted when Johnson-Thompson was not

:19:29. > :19:33.able to compete. It has been hard, she has led from start to finish.

:19:34. > :19:40.She has had ups and downs but she has been in control. It takes a

:19:41. > :19:43.great mindset to stay focused. The High Jump in particular was

:19:44. > :19:47.challenging because she had to wait over an hour before she started.

:19:48. > :19:54.Which she is delighted. The first global Gold medal which she craved,

:19:55. > :19:59.it is fantastic. I am delighted for the English girls, they have done

:20:00. > :20:03.brilliantly. Getting the opportunity to be here and to experience this

:20:04. > :20:11.crowd. That personal best by Jessica Taylor to get that runs medal is

:20:12. > :20:15.fantastic. Jessica Taylor of sale, and when you are in such a rich vein

:20:16. > :20:23.of form in the heptathlon as Britain has got at the moment, Louise Hazel

:20:24. > :20:30.one of the Gold a couple of years ago and there are so many girls

:20:31. > :20:36.ahead of her now. It is fantastic to see what has come behind. And now we

:20:37. > :20:42.have another medallist, Michael. Yes, and that is what happens when

:20:43. > :20:50.you have somebody like Denise who sets the stage and young girls wants

:20:51. > :20:54.to be like her. Like we have with the Jamaicans in the sprint. We have

:20:55. > :20:59.Morgan Lake, the World Junior champion as well. And we hope to see

:21:00. > :21:05.Johnson-Thompson competing in the Long Jump in Z?rich in the world --

:21:06. > :21:10.in the European Championships. It is a gruelling two days. We can head

:21:11. > :21:16.over to the Long Jump to see how that is going for Greg Rutherford.

:21:17. > :21:26.Just one man is standing between Greg Rutherford taking a Long Jump

:21:27. > :21:36.Gold. A Commonwealth Gold to add to his Olympic Gold should this man not

:21:37. > :21:45.jump beyond his best so far. That is below, he knows that is below. It is

:21:46. > :21:49.below Greg Rutherford's jump. It will be measured. If it is below

:21:50. > :21:57.8.20, Greg Rutherford is the Commonwealth champion. That is

:21:58. > :22:03.anxious. Yes! That is a celebration for Visser, he's pleased with a

:22:04. > :22:10.silver medal. But somewhere, Greg Rutherford, the penny will have

:22:11. > :22:19.dropped. There he is! He is an outdoor she is allowed another jump.

:22:20. > :22:29.-- he is allowed another jump. What that must mean after taking the

:22:30. > :22:36.Olympic title and having a bit of a job -- dodgy 2013, with injury. To

:22:37. > :22:47.take the Commonwealth title two years later, well done, Greg. Well

:22:48. > :22:54.done to Greg Rutherford, a big smile from Denise Lewis. That pressure for

:22:55. > :22:59.him to back up Olympic Gold and to prove the British record he set this

:23:00. > :23:07.year, that he is definitely the number one and he will take that

:23:08. > :23:11.forward to the next cycle. Olympic Gold is what we crave and he has got

:23:12. > :23:15.that which you can see what this medal means to him. I thought he was

:23:16. > :23:25.going to have a moment, and out test of emotion. I think it is testament

:23:26. > :23:30.to his character. -- an outburst of emotion. He has changed his training

:23:31. > :23:37.base and his coach. Getting his life back on track, taking ownership of

:23:38. > :23:43.his athletics career. He did not even jump two weeks ago because of

:23:44. > :23:46.an injury and it gave us an indication that he was not prepared

:23:47. > :23:52.to risk anything because this was his aim, Paula, this medal and this

:23:53. > :23:58.moment. I met him on a flight back from the diamond league in Glasgow

:23:59. > :24:03.and he said the injury he had, it was not too bad because he had it

:24:04. > :24:10.ten days before he jumped the British record this year. He said

:24:11. > :24:14.things were still on track for the Commonwealth Games and that was his

:24:15. > :24:18.aim and everything he was focusing towards. He has almost had to manage

:24:19. > :24:22.his body. He has a lot of niggles. It is learning how to do it and went

:24:23. > :24:27.to do it and taking calculated risks. Sometimes it upsets people we

:24:28. > :24:32.have to be the master of our own destiny. We will hear from Greg

:24:33. > :24:40.Rutherford, Commonwealth champion, very soon. The men's 400m final is

:24:41. > :24:44.next on the track. And if you want to know how to run a perfect 400m,

:24:45. > :24:52.you are in luck, we have the world-record holder!

:24:53. > :25:02.This is the 400m at the race can be won or lost on here. -- bot. Seven

:25:03. > :25:08.other athletes in this small space before the race. I actually enjoyed

:25:09. > :25:12.this, it is the one thing I miss about competing because this was the

:25:13. > :25:16.intense time when I knew in most cases I could win the race but I did

:25:17. > :25:20.not know if I was going to win and I knew I was competing against other

:25:21. > :25:28.people who were going to lose it right here. You might think with the

:25:29. > :25:33.400m because it is a long is rent that the start is not as important

:25:34. > :25:39.but it is just as important here as it would be in 200 m -- a long

:25:40. > :25:45.sprint. You have to react to the garden and executed to perfection.

:25:46. > :25:49.50 metres later, you are still accelerating and you have to get up

:25:50. > :25:54.to pace as quickly as possible. That is dauntingly knowing you have

:25:55. > :26:01.400m. When I broke the world-record in the 400m, this was key to that

:26:02. > :26:07.record. At this point, it you can start to look at the other athletes

:26:08. > :26:12.and you can see your position she can start. You have not slowed down

:26:13. > :26:18.but you relax now. -- you can start. 150 metres, you have to start to

:26:19. > :26:26.make decisions based on what your competition is doing. It pays to

:26:27. > :26:29.know your competitors and that helps you make a better decision. When

:26:30. > :26:35.Kirani James lost the World Championship, this was critical. He

:26:36. > :26:42.saw what his opponent was doing and he made an adjustment. Adjustments

:26:43. > :26:47.are sometimes necessary but you have to make the right one. You are

:26:48. > :26:54.starting to give a bit more effort as you are getting into this 200 m

:26:55. > :27:01.own. You cannot just turn on the turbo boost. -- 200 m zone. You have

:27:02. > :27:04.to give more effort. With every step, you need to know how much

:27:05. > :27:11.further you have to go until the finish line as well as what you have

:27:12. > :27:16.got left to get to it. 50 metres from the finish, down the home

:27:17. > :27:22.stretch, if you have got it right to this point, and you are not going to

:27:23. > :27:26.be accelerating here, you are trying to hold form and technique and hope

:27:27. > :27:32.somebody in front of you if anybody is in front, that they are

:27:33. > :27:39.decelerating quicker than you. I know the 400m looks very simple but

:27:40. > :27:43.it is extremely complex, a lot going on in every athlete's mind for the

:27:44. > :27:49.entire 400m, and we will see that player tonight.

:27:50. > :27:55.So that is how you do it. You teased us, you put on your trainers and I

:27:56. > :28:01.thought we would see you do a quick lap. But that information is going

:28:02. > :28:06.round in the head of Kirani James. He has got to execute this race well

:28:07. > :28:10.because when it came to the big stage last year in Moscow, he let

:28:11. > :28:16.himself down. Absolutely, that is what is going on in his head. He is

:28:17. > :28:20.running that race in his mind now and he is thinking what he needs to

:28:21. > :28:25.do, the areas he has made mistakes before, and how he is going to

:28:26. > :28:30.handle that. He is not thinking about competition, hopefully. I

:28:31. > :28:34.think given the fact he is in lane six, the comparison to last year

:28:35. > :28:41.when he threw it away and made the critical mistake was that he was

:28:42. > :28:47.inside his main competitor. He was in lane five and Merrick was in

:28:48. > :28:54.sixth. Tonight, Kirani James is in six -- in six. Rooney will be his

:28:55. > :29:00.main competitor and Gordon, from Trinidad Tobago. This is a good

:29:01. > :29:05.position for him. His coach would have been delighted when he saw the

:29:06. > :29:11.draw. He knows Kirani James will run his own race. He has run 43.7 this

:29:12. > :29:17.year, a personal best. Nobody is close to that this year and he has

:29:18. > :29:25.been healthy so he just has to execute his race the way he has done

:29:26. > :29:30.it all season. How can Martin Ren?e -- Martyn Rooney use Kirani James?

:29:31. > :29:34.He should use Kirani James, he is in a great position down that

:29:35. > :29:39.backstretch and it is critical for Martyn Rooney. He can relax a lot

:29:40. > :29:45.better having a main competitor on his outside. Relaxation is key. What

:29:46. > :29:51.we saw him do the other night in the semifinal is to relax at one point

:29:52. > :29:57.in the race and tonight he can relax down the backstretch. It gives him

:29:58. > :30:00.the opportunity to slingshot himself around the bend and position himself

:30:01. > :30:06.where he wants to be and bring it home. There will be huge support for

:30:07. > :30:16.him and for Kirani James, here is Steve Cram.

:30:17. > :30:24.title is introduced to the crowd. Who can even get close? Will it be

:30:25. > :30:29.Martyn Rooney. The Commonwealth Games in Melbourne in 2006 was when

:30:30. > :30:33.this man came to prominence for the first time. He ran his personal best

:30:34. > :30:39.at the Olympic Games in 2008 and since then it has been a struggle to

:30:40. > :30:43.fulfil his potential. Van Niekerk actually ran in the 200 Metres heats

:30:44. > :30:49.this morning, he's also going in that event. A bit of a surprise

:30:50. > :30:54.seeing as he has a decent chance in this final. Bronze-medallist from

:30:55. > :31:05.the Olympic Games in London, Lalonde Gordon. Three men from that country.

:31:06. > :31:15.Renny Quow in Lane 2. This man picked up a bronze medal in 2009

:31:16. > :31:18.when he burst onto the scene. Chris Brown made it to the final but

:31:19. > :31:24.sadly, the veteran is not able to start. Right on the outside,

:31:25. > :31:39.Williams of the Bahamas. So for Kirani James, 2011, the world

:31:40. > :31:49.champion, 2012 the Olympic champion, now in 2014 attempting to become the

:31:50. > :31:53.Commonwealth champion. Can Martyn Rooney finally fulfil some of that

:31:54. > :32:02.huge potential he has? Can follow this man to a medal? Kirani James is

:32:03. > :32:08.expected to win this party now has two deliver. Van Niekerk of South

:32:09. > :32:16.Africa started very quickly. He may well pay for that. Rooney has to be

:32:17. > :32:21.patient. Lalonde Gordon will finish quickly, but Rooney is well out of

:32:22. > :32:25.this at the moment. Van Niekerk of South Africa, putting Kirani James

:32:26. > :32:30.under some pressure, will he be able to last it with the big man? Kirani

:32:31. > :32:34.James and van Niekerk, stride by stride down the home straight.

:32:35. > :32:38.Lalonde Gordon finishing very quickly. Van Niekerk starting to

:32:39. > :32:42.fade and Rooney will finish quick but it won't be good enough. Kirani

:32:43. > :32:50.James takes the gold medal, new games record. The gold in the title,

:32:51. > :32:56.once more go to Kirani James, it was a brave effort by then the Kirk to

:32:57. > :33:05.try and stay with him. -- van Niekerk. But this man has so much

:33:06. > :33:09.ability. At the age of 14 he ran a world best, at the age of 15 he ran

:33:10. > :33:17.a world best, he continued to improve. He won the world title in

:33:18. > :33:24.2011. The Olympics, he was superb. After a difficult 2013, he has

:33:25. > :33:31.bounced back. Top of the world again. Kirani James. That was hard,

:33:32. > :33:35.I wonder what he was thinking when this young man was right inside him,

:33:36. > :33:37.he gave LaShawn Merritt scare earlier

:33:38. > :33:41.this young man was right inside him, he gave LaShawn Merritt scare in the

:33:42. > :33:48.season and he gave Kirani James a bit of a scare to. Martyn Rooney did

:33:49. > :33:53.his best, I am not sure he got into the race in the early stages, when

:33:54. > :33:58.van Niekerk came storming past him, it was difficult. He tried to stay

:33:59. > :34:09.patient but Gordon finished quickly and took the bronze medal.

:34:10. > :34:23.Try once more in the grenade in flight. -- draped once more in the

:34:24. > :34:31.grenade in flag. I just wonder what Michael thought of that, whether you

:34:32. > :34:36.were thinking, is van Niekerk going to give him something to think

:34:37. > :34:43.about? It looked like he would last out but surely he went too hard.

:34:44. > :34:50.Yes, I'm not sure, I was watching the 200 Metres this morning and saw

:34:51. > :34:53.van Niekerk running in the preliminaries, so that is quite a

:34:54. > :34:57.feat, to run into those in the morning and then run the 400 final,

:34:58. > :35:03.but I thought this race was faster than it was. I thought Rooney was a

:35:04. > :35:08.good position, I thought here he needs to pick it up and I wondering

:35:09. > :35:14.if James and van Niekerk would hold their position, but it wasn't as

:35:15. > :35:18.fast as it looks. Kirani James took control from the beginning, very

:35:19. > :35:22.impressive by van Niekerk, staying with him, I wonder if he is

:35:23. > :35:27.thinking, maybe it wasn't such a good idea to run the 200

:35:28. > :35:31.preliminaries this morning, it had to have taken a little bit out of

:35:32. > :35:36.him tonight which may have been enough to stay with Kirani James and

:35:37. > :35:48.run a personal best and take the gold medal. James got a very quick

:35:49. > :35:53.start. Then you can relax on the back stretch, he gets into his

:35:54. > :35:58.relaxation bit here the long stride, it becomes a real advantage for an

:35:59. > :36:04.athlete in the 400 Metres because he is covering more ground than

:36:05. > :36:07.everyone else. Now he starts to put in more effort, he still doesn't

:36:08. > :36:17.know where the guys are, it is nowhere Rooney is, with 120 litres

:36:18. > :36:24.to go -- metres to go, he knows where van Niekerk is, but now you

:36:25. > :36:28.see the symmetry, left to right. His torso is not moving around a lot,

:36:29. > :36:30.that's what you want and that's what he has got to do to get his

:36:31. > :36:30.that's what you want and that's what he has got to do to get times down.

:36:31. > :36:32.He ran a personal best this year, he has got to do to get times down.

:36:33. > :36:38.He ran a personal best this 43.7. He he has got to do to get times down.

:36:39. > :36:42.still has a bright future, world Champion, Olympic champion,

:36:43. > :36:47.Commonwealth champion, I'm sure the world record will be next for him.

:36:48. > :36:53.It was a tough one for Martyn Rooney, he was never in the race.

:36:54. > :36:58.You have to go into it with your own plan, Gordon from Trinidad almost

:36:59. > :37:03.got the silver medal, had to settle for bronze. But back to Rooney, you

:37:04. > :37:07.have to make the decision whether you compete against the other

:37:08. > :37:11.athletes all you stay with your own race plan to stop what he saw the

:37:12. > :37:16.athletes on the back stretch starting to get away from him, you

:37:17. > :37:21.need to make that adjustment and he did not make the adjustment. He

:37:22. > :37:27.thought as I did that they were going too fast, and they would come

:37:28. > :37:31.back to him at some point, that's obviously turned out to be a mistake

:37:32. > :37:37.and it was a costly one for him because this was a great opportunity

:37:38. > :37:43.for him to win a Commonwealth Games medal and get himself back on top

:37:44. > :38:04.and continue the fantastic season he has been having to this point will

:38:05. > :38:12.I am sure Martyn Rooney will be disappointed despite running well.

:38:13. > :38:22.The first time that grenade have won a gold medal.

:38:23. > :38:31.man inside me, Olympic champion in Britain and now Commonwealth

:38:32. > :38:36.champion in Britain. I am just happy for the country, happy will for

:38:37. > :38:43.everyone who is affiliated with us, this win is for everybody back home.

:38:44. > :38:51.He pushed you hard. I glimpsed him, I knew I had to stay composed, make

:38:52. > :38:56.sure, so I try to stay relaxed. I ended up with a great time. You must

:38:57. > :39:02.want to race in Britain all the time! Yes, the crowd is fantastic, I

:39:03. > :39:02.love it here, the crowd really cancel out the

:39:03. > :39:10.love it here, the crowd really cancel weather. It is good to be out

:39:11. > :39:17.here and read front of a crowd like this. You come in as a favourite did

:39:18. > :39:20.you go through the rounds with consummate ease, you deal with us

:39:21. > :39:28.with consummate ease, you are a true gent. Thank you. God placed a lot of

:39:29. > :39:33.great people in my corner to help me with that. Everyday I get coaching

:39:34. > :39:38.in life and I'm happy that coach helps me out, I have grown up

:39:39. > :39:43.friends back home at help me with that. I just have to give thanks.

:39:44. > :39:52.Congratulations. I think he will be everybody's

:39:53. > :40:00.favourite Caribbean sprinter! Loving the crowd here. And loving competing

:40:01. > :40:06.on British soil, very good memories for him, from London and now

:40:07. > :40:12.Glasgow, what a charming man he is. There is already a Kirani James

:40:13. > :40:19.Boulevard back in Grenada. Buildings, airports... ! He's a

:40:20. > :40:23.great young man, I met a few years ago, he is very respectful, focused,

:40:24. > :40:27.works really hard. I'm sure that was a difficult defeat for him last

:40:28. > :40:32.year, he said that, I'm sure this was a bit of indication. A great

:40:33. > :40:38.race, great champion, we have another one to hear from now.

:40:39. > :40:45.Congratulations. I saw you collapse to your knees in delight and relief,

:40:46. > :40:51.all the pressure on you to win it, you have done it! Absolutely. It's

:40:52. > :40:56.never an easy road and after last year, I was never sure if I would be

:40:57. > :40:59.able to carry on jumping. I have come here and come away with another

:41:00. > :41:05.title, it's what it's all about for me. I'm over the moon. A lot of

:41:06. > :41:09.people thought I was a one-hit wonder but I'm here trying to prove

:41:10. > :41:15.I can still do it and I will do it many more times. This place was out

:41:16. > :41:21.of this world tonight, got completely behind us, it really

:41:22. > :41:26.helped. A bit gutted about my fourth round, thought I had a monster there

:41:27. > :41:31.and it was a bit of a foul, but I'm super happy. I'm going to go to the

:41:32. > :41:39.Europeans and try and do it again. It's incredible. I just want to get

:41:40. > :41:46.out there and winning titles stop what is it say about you that you

:41:47. > :41:52.can rice to the vacation time after time? I think which Ball

:41:53. > :42:01.Championships in Britain! I love the big stadiums, the crowds, I enjoy

:42:02. > :42:06.being out there. I found myself smiling I was having fun out there.

:42:07. > :42:11.I felt I could have got a big jump again, but this isn't like the

:42:12. > :42:16.Olympics of two years ago, I still have something to focus on. So I

:42:17. > :42:21.can't kill myself and not be right for that. I love these

:42:22. > :42:26.championships, and I would also love to say, people try and write off the

:42:27. > :42:31.Commonwealth Games and say it's not important, try saying that to anyone

:42:32. > :42:36.who has won here tonight, any athlete who has completed, these are

:42:37. > :42:41.hugely important for all kinds of athletes at all levels, and long may

:42:42. > :42:45.it continue. If we have crowds stadiums and competitions like this,

:42:46. > :42:50.it will continue for a long time. Let me ask you about people writing

:42:51. > :42:57.you off, how much did it get under your skin, do you feel you have

:42:58. > :42:59.something to prove? It's one of those tough ones. People are always

:43:00. > :43:07.going to have things to say about you. The Olympics came as a shock to

:43:08. > :43:10.some people, but I was the only one who wasn't shocked, I had been

:43:11. > :43:17.working so hard, and everything came together. I have been working beyond

:43:18. > :43:21.hard this year, I have had a nice, consistent year and that has shown

:43:22. > :43:26.again today. When you are consistent, you can go out there and

:43:27. > :43:31.win the medals. That's what it's all about. When you get written off and

:43:32. > :43:38.you kill yourself in training, that's the thing, nobody else sees

:43:39. > :43:42.that. But when you come out and win medals, it proves the point. The

:43:43. > :43:49.best answer possible, another gold medal, congratulations.

:43:50. > :43:54.Great words and sentiment about the importance of the Commonwealth Games

:43:55. > :43:58.to him and all the athletes and where it can lead to in their

:43:59. > :44:05.careers, to some it's a stepping stone, for Greg it is cementing what

:44:06. > :44:08.it is in the Olympics. A jump of 8.20, do you think he will have to

:44:09. > :44:14.jump further to get the European Championships? I don't think it

:44:15. > :44:19.matters. He said it all, he has his Olympic title, the British record,

:44:20. > :44:26.we know he wants to jump further but an athlete 's career is defined...

:44:27. > :44:31.There will always be tough competition, it only takes a couple

:44:32. > :44:35.of no jumps and you are under pressure, but people want to collect

:44:36. > :44:44.medals, they want to win time and time again. The pipers, piping them

:44:45. > :44:54.out for this medal ceremony for the Long Jump. Another medal to add to

:44:55. > :44:58.the collection, Michael, at the end if your career when you look back

:44:59. > :45:06.you don't say, I jumped really far that night, you say, these are the

:45:07. > :45:14.medals I wonder. It is about the championship. It is for people who

:45:15. > :45:21.are part of the Commonwealth. I have not heard the ball talking about

:45:22. > :45:28.what the Commonwealth is. I have as to buy every media person, is the

:45:29. > :45:33.Commonwealth relevant? -- people. I have not heard anybody saying, the

:45:34. > :45:38.Commonwealth Games, not that good. It is not a valid situation. The

:45:39. > :45:42.Commonwealth Games has its place but it is a great opportunity for up and

:45:43. > :45:48.coming athletes, which we have seen, make their mark and go on and do

:45:49. > :45:51.great things. I hope that is the situation for Adam Gemili. And this

:45:52. > :45:56.is an opportunity for somebody like Greg Rutherford to do something

:45:57. > :46:01.great and on home soil. It is something he will never forget for

:46:02. > :46:04.the rest of his life. People in the stadium and watching at home and

:46:05. > :46:10.around the world will appreciate athletes are competing and nobody is

:46:11. > :46:15.giving away medals here. That is not happening. Everybody understands

:46:16. > :46:21.this is relevant. The Commonwealth Games changed my life in 1994. I was

:46:22. > :46:26.trying to make my way in athletics and until I got that medal, this was

:46:27. > :46:30.an affirmation I could be good at this and make a difference. I

:46:31. > :46:35.changed my training group, I looked at what I could improve and it did

:46:36. > :46:40.bolster my confidence about who I was and what I wanted to achieve.

:46:41. > :46:44.There are two things that can give you confidence. Winning a medal at a

:46:45. > :46:50.championship does not matter, come of Games, Indoor Championships,

:46:51. > :46:56.whatever, and also to produce the times -- Commonwealth Games. But you

:46:57. > :47:03.can win a championship. Watching you Paula, I would say probably echoing

:47:04. > :47:07.a lot of stuff to me said, it was a major breakthrough. It was my first

:47:08. > :47:13.championship title on the track and that meant something. And Greg now

:47:14. > :47:17.has the Olympic and Commonwealth title. He has a chance of the

:47:18. > :47:21.European title, how many people have done those three? And he has a

:47:22. > :47:28.chance of a world title, not many people have got those four. It could

:47:29. > :47:33.be a grand slam this time next year, he could be going to China for the

:47:34. > :47:41.World Championships. I just think it makes a difference. Look at his

:47:42. > :47:46.face. He is beaming. As I said, this means as much to him as the Olympic

:47:47. > :47:49.Games. Fantastic. Let's take a moment for him and the stadium here

:47:50. > :48:02.at Hampden Park to enjoy the atmosphere.

:48:03. > :49:07.He looks so relieved. He put a lot of pressure on himself to deliver

:49:08. > :49:14.tonight. He did, he needed this. He really needed this. Not the

:49:15. > :49:19.distance, but for his confidence going forward. To know he has made

:49:20. > :49:25.the right decisions to get to the stage. I think he will go to Z?rich

:49:26. > :49:29.and go very far. In a couple of weeks time, the European

:49:30. > :49:32.Championships in Z?rich. He was injured a couple of weeks ago and he

:49:33. > :49:38.did not compete here in the Diamond League. Injuries last year, but Greg

:49:39. > :49:43.Rutherford is back smiling, on the top of the podium. You probably

:49:44. > :49:48.think that he always wins and you do not see the stories behind if you do

:49:49. > :49:58.not watch regularly. What he has been through a lot and he is back on

:49:59. > :50:01.top. -- what he has been. Let's get back out onto the field for the High

:50:02. > :50:07.Jump competition, with Steve Backley.

:50:08. > :50:17.Great scenes for Greg Rutherford but it is Englishman baker who got into

:50:18. > :50:23.the top four in the High Jump, and this was his final attempt. -- Chris

:50:24. > :50:31.Baker. The High Jump always ends on a fail. But it was a success at

:50:32. > :50:49.2.25. Chris Baker match Michael Mason, of Canada. -- matches.

:50:50. > :51:00.This is the favourite who has dominated throughout the

:51:01. > :51:05.competition. Queen clearances, and this that -- to 31. He became the

:51:06. > :51:15.10th man in history to go higher than 2.40, Drouin, earlier this

:51:16. > :51:20.year. Watch this, that is fantastic. If you are a budding High Jump, just

:51:21. > :51:39.do it like that. Perfect technique -- High Jump. There was only one man

:51:40. > :51:49.who could have stopped that. It was the Cypriots. He had a foul and he

:51:50. > :51:55.opted to pass. -- the Cypriots. Three fouls and you are out. So this

:51:56. > :52:06.opening jump was the only chance for Ioannou to go clear. The pressure.

:52:07. > :52:15.It ended up silver for the Cypriot, with a big season's best, a previous

:52:16. > :52:33.world medallist. So that led to the success and Gold for Drouin. So

:52:34. > :52:37.Drouin, the Commonwealth champion. And here is confirmation. Chris

:52:38. > :52:48.Baker down in agonising fourth place. It was the countback that got

:52:49. > :52:57.him. So two medals for Canada and success for Drouin.

:52:58. > :53:02.Drouin is one of the best in the world at the moment, leading a group

:53:03. > :53:06.of men who are consistently on top. That man is one of the great

:53:07. > :53:13.athletes of all time. That moment in London when he took Gold and a world

:53:14. > :53:18.record. Seb Coe said it was his favourite moment of the Games, and

:53:19. > :53:24.so many people appreciated the class he brought that night. And he

:53:25. > :53:30.continues to. Last year, he was injured and he is back this year. He

:53:31. > :53:34.is going to run 1.42, he said, he has done that already. How much

:53:35. > :53:40.lower can he get? This is the semifinal tonight. Paula? He can

:53:41. > :53:45.definitely go faster this season, I do not think he is going to attack

:53:46. > :53:49.this like he did the Olympics in terms of a world record. In terms of

:53:50. > :53:51.the World Championships, he will be happy to go away with the

:53:52. > :53:56.Commonwealth title and focus on running faster and regaining his

:53:57. > :54:10.fitness levels by the end of the season. It is a chilly night

:54:11. > :54:14.tonight. His aim, Denise, will be to get to the final. We saw the

:54:15. > :54:21.documentary which had footage from over ten years of David Rudisha and

:54:22. > :54:25.his progress and his training to get to that moment in London. It was

:54:26. > :54:31.just a fascinating insight. I loved it, it was riveting. An insight into

:54:32. > :54:37.his world. The preparation, the disappointments, his relationship

:54:38. > :54:47.with his brother. It was fantastic. A lot of people who did not see him

:54:48. > :54:53.in London... Disappointment Usain Bolt will not be running on his

:54:54. > :54:59.own, but he is as big a draw. He is, there are big stars in athletics.

:55:00. > :55:06.Usain Bolt, Shelly Ann Fraser-Pryce, Mo Farah. But this man is certainly

:55:07. > :55:13.one of those superstars and he is fantastic. That race, that was one

:55:14. > :55:16.of the most amazing I have seen, in London. I have always been a fan of

:55:17. > :55:27.the 800m. As a London. I have always been a fan of

:55:28. > :55:37.the 800m. 400-metre runner, you are amazed watching these guys! He is a

:55:38. > :55:42.great person. We talked about Kirani James earlier, a great young man.

:55:43. > :55:47.This is the same situation with David Rudisha. He is a very charming

:55:48. > :55:51.individual and he has that intelligence that you were talking

:55:52. > :55:56.about, Denise, the other night. Like Adam Gemili. He has that in terms of

:55:57. > :56:01.the way he approaches the race and the way he dissects it. One of the

:56:02. > :56:07.things I enjoyed about competing is the mental aspect of it, and he does

:56:08. > :56:13.as well. We can go to Steve Cram for this 800m race.

:56:14. > :56:17.I am sorry I have not had chance to tell you about the other seven men

:56:18. > :56:28.in this race, David Rudisha does have to beat them to get through.

:56:29. > :56:33.Three of them will go through. Another very good Kenyans in here.

:56:34. > :56:43.David Rudisha will have to be on his guard -- union. -- Kenya. He is not

:56:44. > :56:48.100%. He is not at this stage he was at a couple of years ago. He still

:56:49. > :57:01.should be good enough to qualify without any problem. What can the

:57:02. > :57:09.others do? David Rudisha, the only way for him is that front. He has a

:57:10. > :57:17.compatriot is next to him, Ferguson. 52.2, steady running. That is a big

:57:18. > :57:26.bump. The Australian on the outside. He asked for that, to be honest, he

:57:27. > :57:30.was obviously in too tight. That can seriously affect the race. That is

:57:31. > :57:37.why it David Rudisha has developed the technique of running at the

:57:38. > :57:44.front. -- that is why David. Looking strong with his team-mate. Really

:57:45. > :57:52.moving. What a great race for the Scotsman here. Three will go through

:57:53. > :57:57.to the final. Running the race of his life at the moment, can he

:57:58. > :58:02.hadn't gone? They are all struggling. The Australian is

:58:03. > :58:09.finishing quickly. Can he do it? The Kenyans, one and two, who will be

:58:10. > :58:16.third? So close! Ricardo Cunningham of Jamaica finishing so fast. If

:58:17. > :58:19.this man makes it to the final... Come on, he says. He is looking at

:58:20. > :58:24.the score board, the flags waving. Come on, he says. He is looking at

:58:25. > :58:28.the David Rudisha is in the race but the Commonwealth Games are about

:58:29. > :58:39.people like this making it to the final. And he has done it. Well done

:58:40. > :58:46.to him, the race of his life. Learmonth. That is why these guys

:58:47. > :58:52.are here, they have inspired the young man. He was determined, he was

:58:53. > :59:01.very lucky early in the race at the bottom. This is David Rudisha. A

:59:02. > :59:03.site we are familiar with. He still looks the part, not at his best.

:59:04. > :59:09.site we are familiar with. He still looks the part, His team-mate will

:59:10. > :59:17.be a danger in the final. 54 for the second lap. Look at Learmonth in the

:59:18. > :59:21.finishing straight. Look at the yellow vest of Australia coming

:59:22. > :59:31.quickly. The Jamaican coming is coming quickly. -- Cunningham.

:59:32. > :59:39.Inches at the finish. Cunningham in second place. David Rudisha decides

:59:40. > :59:47.at this pace, I can watch the television. He is not looking

:59:48. > :59:53.around, and that makes sense. Learmonth running the race of his

:59:54. > :00:01.life, what it is time and -- what a time and place to do it, and he can

:00:02. > :00:05.now look forward and relax. He has earned his place in the Commonwealth

:00:06. > :00:10.Games. Well done, died Learmonth, we look forward to seeing you tomorrow

:00:11. > :00:20.-- three. Look out what that means to him. -- well done, Learmonth. He

:00:21. > :00:21.will be back to contest the 800-metre final. Let's find out what

:00:22. > :00:31.he thinks about that. It has been an incredible last

:00:32. > :00:33.couple of minutes, through to a mage or final in Hampden Park, can you

:00:34. > :00:52.describe it -- major final? best. He was just like, run for the

:00:53. > :00:59.place, the time will come, and that is what I did today. The time is not

:01:00. > :01:02.that quick but I don't care, I'm in the Commonwealth final. At home.

:01:03. > :01:09.They could not ask for anything more. What about the famous Royal at

:01:10. > :01:15.Hampden Park? Just listen to it, that is what pulled me through. I

:01:16. > :01:20.have enjoyed myself. I am in the final and I cannot thank everyone

:01:21. > :01:26.enough. The Scots, the fans, everyone that is here. I can't

:01:27. > :01:36.explain it. The energy that I get from everyone is amazing. Well done.

:01:37. > :01:39.Brilliant performance. STUDIO: What a performance by Guy Learmonth. It

:01:40. > :01:46.shows Judy effect of the home crowd and what it can do. That is what

:01:47. > :01:50.getting into the Commonwealth Games final means to someone like Guy

:01:51. > :01:54.Learmonth, it is a huge step up and I think everyone in the stadium was

:01:55. > :01:59.blowing him down the straight. Just to push across the line. That was

:02:00. > :02:08.really close and he did well to hold on. He did well not to be involved

:02:09. > :02:11.in all of the bumping. He did. Sometimes it is just about staying

:02:12. > :02:19.out of trouble. The 800 metres comes with a lot of argy-bargy and pushing

:02:20. > :02:24.and shoving. That was an incredible race. You have to take your

:02:25. > :02:30.opportunities. World class at the front of the race, David Rudisha

:02:31. > :02:33.crossing the line first. Congratulations on reaching another

:02:34. > :02:40.final, you were expected to do that but you have to live up to the

:02:41. > :02:54.expectation? Yes. You know, today it was a bit tough. I had to take it

:02:55. > :02:59.with a lot of caution. I lead from the front as I traditionally do and

:03:00. > :03:02.I controlled the race. What kind of shape I you in approaching the

:03:03. > :03:10.final? I feel as though I'm getting better every time. My body is really

:03:11. > :03:14.responding well. Now you have negotiated a couple of rounds, what

:03:15. > :03:19.kind of mindset are you in for the big showdown in the final? Well, I

:03:20. > :03:30.am expecting another good race. In the final we have really tough guys.

:03:31. > :03:37.It is going to be a little bit turf, it will be a tactical

:03:38. > :03:42.championship race. You must feel as though your own front of a home

:03:43. > :03:47.crowd? The crowd has been fantastic here. They love you and they

:03:48. > :03:55.appreciate you being here. The for the final. Ira Lee-Lo the crowd,

:03:56. > :04:04.they are fantastic. -- I really love it. He did not look troubled, he

:04:05. > :04:09.looked very relaxed. He looks so relaxed, I was concerned as they

:04:10. > :04:12.went through the bell, he looked as though he was frowning which was not

:04:13. > :04:19.characteristic of the way that he runs. But he was totally in control.

:04:20. > :04:22.He had time to check the screen. He eased off enough to still dominate

:04:23. > :04:27.and the other guys still know that you are the best but he was

:04:28. > :04:34.conserving energy for the final. Stiff opposition coming from the

:04:35. > :04:39.next semifinal, Amos was behind him in London but has since emerged into

:04:40. > :04:44.a world beater. Yes, he was one of the ones who came passed him in

:04:45. > :04:50.Monaco recently. This is the race in Monaco. He led into the straight but

:04:51. > :04:54.he does not quite have the fitness from the training that he missed

:04:55. > :05:00.with his knee injury. He was almost racing himself into shape this

:05:01. > :05:05.year. Amos came past. He ran amazingly well to take the French

:05:06. > :05:08.record in race. Rudisha will have come on strongly from that race. It

:05:09. > :05:12.would also have fired him out because nobody likes to be beaten.

:05:13. > :05:26.He wants to re-establish himself over Amos. Amos from Botswana.

:05:27. > :05:29.Botswana of course, now we see great athletes from Botswana putting

:05:30. > :05:36.themselves at the top of the world table in their events. The female

:05:37. > :05:42.athlete missing out, but Amos will want to stake a claim. Absolutely.

:05:43. > :05:46.He carried the flag for Botswana in the opening ceremony and this is

:05:47. > :05:55.important to him, he is racing one of his idols. He also wants to win

:05:56. > :05:59.the title. What I love about the Commonwealth Games is that you hear

:06:00. > :06:02.the stories about the facilities in Botswana, it is tough for these

:06:03. > :06:08.guys, but they come on the circuit to make their mark and he is here

:06:09. > :06:14.with a chance to make the final. Let's handover to the commentary.

:06:15. > :06:20.COMMENTATOR: Rudisha may well be leading, but Amos is the favourite,

:06:21. > :06:30.he is close to his best. Let's wrap up the first heat. Guy Learmonth is

:06:31. > :06:40.through automatically. Two go through as the fastest losers. This

:06:41. > :06:46.is how they line up in the second semifinal. Amos leading the way. He

:06:47. > :06:54.is head and shoulders above the rest but a few of them have similar

:06:55. > :07:00.season bests. Michael Rimmer in line seven, he is the UK champion,

:07:01. > :07:10.winning it for a seventh time this season. Nigel Amos, so much has been

:07:11. > :07:13.said about him. He was 18 when he won his silver medal when he

:07:14. > :07:21.equalled the great Marcotte Sebastian Coe. Evans Kipkorir of

:07:22. > :07:24.Kenya. The 20-year-old. The Kenyan prisons Champlin, that does not

:07:25. > :07:33.sound ground but it is fiercely contested. -- champion. The training

:07:34. > :07:34.partner of Nigel Amos, Andre Olivier, the South African. He is a

:07:35. > :07:54.real threat here. Alberto Mamba is just 19, he may be

:07:55. > :08:01.struggling for pace here. Aaron Evans will be hoping for a slightly

:08:02. > :08:06.slower pace than the more fancied names outside are capable of. Out in

:08:07. > :08:11.lane eight as well we have Joe Thomas going for Wales, he came

:08:12. > :08:17.through after the disqualification in the first round. Andrew Osagie

:08:18. > :08:23.disqualified. He has got the turn of speed, the second semifinal of the

:08:24. > :08:28.men's 800 metres. Three go through automatically plus the two fastest

:08:29. > :08:33.losers for tomorrow's final. What a great race we had in the first

:08:34. > :08:42.semifinal, the large figure of Andre Olivier will lead out his training

:08:43. > :08:49.partner Amos. Amos just looking across as they break. Olivia is

:08:50. > :08:57.setting the pace. -- Olivier. It is good to see Michael Rimmer moving

:08:58. > :09:04.into second place. We know that Amos has a fantastic finish and he will

:09:05. > :09:12.be happy to follow winner. -- Michael Bremmer. Let's face it, we

:09:13. > :09:18.will look at the performance of Amos. Look to see how he finishes

:09:19. > :09:21.the race the race tomorrow in the final, shaming he gets there,

:09:22. > :09:24.against David Rudisha could be the race of the games. -- Ashley Ming

:09:25. > :09:44.that he gets there. -- assuming. Under pressure from ten one', from

:09:45. > :09:48.Uganda. -- Musagala. Trying to keep pace at the moment. The Kenyan Evans

:09:49. > :09:54.Kipkorir is coming through as well. Sitting behind Michael Rimmer.

:09:55. > :10:01.Olivier and his training partner Amos. Just drifting off the back. He

:10:02. > :10:03.cannot get there. It will be these three going through automatically

:10:04. > :10:17.add Michael Rimmer is losing the battle for fourth place as well. --

:10:18. > :10:23.and tears. -- and he is. I am not sure Michael Rimmer was quick

:10:24. > :10:27.enough. We will wait and see. A bit of a disappointment for Michael

:10:28. > :10:30.Rimmer. He ran a solid race but when he came under pressure, they were

:10:31. > :10:39.too strong for him. He could not really hold on. Looking at the

:10:40. > :10:44.finishing times. This man here, he set the pace, with Olivier. Amos, on

:10:45. > :10:53.his knees, I am sure he will challenge David Rudisha tomorrow.

:10:54. > :11:05.Paula just said yes, he has made it. I was just going over my notes. He

:11:06. > :11:06.is in fifth place. The two fastest losers and I got the fastest losers

:11:07. > :11:18.at we will call that for you officially

:11:19. > :11:24.in a moment. Paula is normally good with these things. He would join Guy

:11:25. > :11:32.Learmonth, the home nation representatives tomorrow. Paula

:11:33. > :11:35.Radcliffe is a mathematical genius and marathon runner. That concludes

:11:36. > :11:41.the athletics for tonight but it continues on BBC Three. We have seen

:11:42. > :11:45.great stuff with Greg Rutherford winning gold and Kirani James

:11:46. > :11:49.winning the 400 and beating the Commonwealth Games record of Ewan

:11:50. > :11:57.Thomas which had stood for 16 years. This was his response!

:11:58. > :12:08.I am not sure he is looking into it or throwing up on it! He's probably

:12:09. > :12:12.a bit disappointed. -- tucking in. Now, let's go to the Hydro to see

:12:13. > :12:27.who will be crowned the women all around champion.

:12:28. > :12:36.COMMENTATOR: Going for the big double twist. Not a problem. Really

:12:37. > :12:48.mature performance, there. Cracking routine from her. Very nice work.

:12:49. > :12:54.The crowd here are just loving the performances. Absolutely first

:12:55. > :13:07.class. Well, prepare to be entertained.

:13:08. > :13:13.That is the scene at the Hydro and there to build up to one of the

:13:14. > :13:14.moments of this or any games is former world and Commonwealth

:13:15. > :13:20.champion Beth Tweddle alongside Matt Baker.

:13:21. > :13:25.What a story that has been unfolding, Ruby Harrold qualified in

:13:26. > :13:28.third and she is now leading the field with two more pieces of

:13:29. > :13:35.apparatus remaining. England won until at the moment. Ruby Harrold,

:13:36. > :13:38.cloudy Fraga Pana, and then the Canadian Elizabeth Black in third.

:13:39. > :13:50.-- Claudia Fragapane at. What a performance from Elisabeth

:13:51. > :13:55.Beddoe of Wales. Hannah Whelan in sixth position. She has not given

:13:56. > :14:01.away many deductions. It goes to show how tight the competition is.

:14:02. > :14:08.Yes, the difference between first and sixth place is not a lot. Her

:14:09. > :14:14.strongest pieces, Hannah, are still to come, so she can make up the

:14:15. > :14:19.difference. Claudia Fragapane, she is her normal consistent so fingers

:14:20. > :14:25.crossed they can keep it going. Claudia is up first on the beam and

:14:26. > :14:30.she has got a difficult routine. She has a standing full twist right near

:14:31. > :14:32.the end of her routine. She performed superbly yesterday. She

:14:33. > :14:41.helped our team to the gold medal but who knows. Megan Chant from

:14:42. > :14:50.Canada. She is in with a real chance of a medal. She qualified in seventh

:14:51. > :14:57.for the flare final. It is all really still to play for here. Just

:14:58. > :15:04.a quick note ahead, how good is Black on the beam? She can be very

:15:05. > :15:14.good oral... It really does make or break the overall final -- or... And

:15:15. > :15:19.finishing on the floor, the medal contenders. Florida is the nicest

:15:20. > :15:22.1-2 finish on, you can engage with the crowd and use the atmosphere and

:15:23. > :15:36.the adrenaline. It is always the nicest piece. The Show will Ruby

:15:37. > :15:46.Harrold feeling, knowing these are not her strongest aces? She will be

:15:47. > :15:52.looking forwards. She has got to perform on beam. So Megan receives

:15:53. > :15:56.the applause from the crowd. White did ever so well for Scotland, but

:15:57. > :16:08.all eyes will be at the other end of the Hydro arena. You can see the

:16:09. > :16:13.beam just in the background there. It is Claudia Fragapane E, who is in

:16:14. > :16:34.silver medal position in the all-round competition.

:16:35. > :16:38.negotiated. -- two leaps. The backflip. The straight somersault.

:16:39. > :16:47.Oh, what a shame. She just hesitated. This has not been her

:16:48. > :16:49.strongest piece that she was so positive yesterday. She has to put

:16:50. > :16:55.that behind her man. -- she has to put that behind her

:16:56. > :17:50.now. Two backflips, dismantle great. She

:17:51. > :17:56.did so well to put the fall behind her. She must be absolutely

:17:57. > :18:04.destroyed inside. She will keep control of herself. She knows it's

:18:05. > :18:13.all new for her. She really was not far off. She tried to react a little

:18:14. > :18:16.bit too much. But as you say, a real shock, and then to continue and pull

:18:17. > :18:23.out difficulty like the full twisting somersault to land... And

:18:24. > :18:31.she will you went for it. Some impact on her leg there as well.

:18:32. > :18:42.Maegan Chant. The scores are growing for her.

:18:43. > :19:23.Presenting, projecting. And now preparing.

:19:24. > :20:37.Two and a half twists, she skipped to the side. She controlled that

:20:38. > :20:50.well. Well done. As she was on beam, just as graceful on floor.

:20:51. > :20:59.Beautiful, elegant, graceful work. Performed to the music. You can see

:21:00. > :21:10.these gymnasts have made friends. The chance of a medal for Claudia

:21:11. > :21:15.Fragapane con. -- has gone. The rest have to do better.

:21:16. > :21:40.From South Africa, Beckett, 18 years old.

:21:41. > :21:45.The acrobatic series is the best we have seen. The backflip and tuck

:21:46. > :22:01.back. Very smooth, good written to this

:22:02. > :22:08.routine. There have been little wobble is as well. - good written.

:22:09. > :22:14.She just did not give enough energy to that side somersault. Her legs

:22:15. > :22:32.just didn't go right overhead. I wonder, for some of these

:22:33. > :22:39.gymnasts, if the three competitions three days in a row is taking its

:22:40. > :22:43.toll a little bit. Big double back. They are very efficient on these

:22:44. > :22:50.dismounts. Building the difficulty all the way to the end. There are

:22:51. > :22:57.proving to be quite a few casualties really in this all-around and

:22:58. > :23:07.petition. Some 50 to do actions. So who knows, Fragapane can still be in

:23:08. > :23:08.a chance of a medal. The highest score so far in this all-round

:23:09. > :23:22.women's competition. The Australian will go out with all

:23:23. > :23:23.of the entertainment value she has got here. She loves to please the

:23:24. > :23:31.crowd. The floor performance in the team

:23:32. > :24:26.competition was strangely lacking. but the tumbling is much, much

:24:27. > :24:54.better than she did in the team competition.

:24:55. > :25:05.She is tumbling so much better. Rising to the occasion. But I don't

:25:06. > :25:11.know, Chris? The choreography definitely has a theme to it. It is

:25:12. > :25:16.telling a story, but I don't find it terribly attractive or appealing.

:25:17. > :25:27.She was in eighth position. Let's see if she can move up the rankings.

:25:28. > :25:29.Who knows? The music was from the Amazon jungle I think. I think it

:25:30. > :25:40.had an aboriginal theme. Hannah Whelan has been European

:25:41. > :25:43.bronze medallist on this piece of apparatus. She needs all the marks

:25:44. > :25:57.she can get. Hannah has what so many of the other

:25:58. > :26:02.gymnasts do not, rate fluency on the beam.

:26:03. > :26:33.-- great clemency. She has gone for broke. No wonder she took a pause.

:26:34. > :26:37.The skill that gave her a big wobble yesterday that she was much more

:26:38. > :26:46.precise on that performance. It is a performance on the beam,

:26:47. > :27:13.rather than just a series of moves. Two and a half, a super, super

:27:14. > :27:20.performance from Hannah Whelan. She could well be in with a shout here.

:27:21. > :27:26.She wants a medal as much as anyone. This is her peace and she didn't

:27:27. > :27:31.really do very well yesterday. So she really wanted to show everyone

:27:32. > :27:47.what she could do today. Two layouts from the free cartwheel.

:27:48. > :28:05.She's very consistent with her scoring today, the Australian.

:28:06. > :28:14.Canada on floor. She produced a good beam.

:28:15. > :29:44.A tiny buckle on the pike but so far nothing serious. Well done indeed.

:29:45. > :29:52.So she's picked up on the last two apparatus, beam and floor have stood

:29:53. > :29:59.her in very good stead indeed. One more to go for the 16-year-old. The

:30:00. > :30:06.all -around competition is over very quickly. Hannah Whelan is on her

:30:07. > :30:30.way. She's building. She has had two very good scores.

:30:31. > :30:38.She rushed slightly into that change.

:30:39. > :30:50.She was in forthcoming into this rotation.

:30:51. > :31:12.little bit rattled after falling off on something that was easy for her.

:31:13. > :31:31.She needs to get into her rhythm now. That was a super double spin.

:31:32. > :31:46.And she gets the connection, the free walkover into the jump.

:31:47. > :31:53.Good dismount, good one and a half, she did so well to get the early

:31:54. > :32:00.fall behind her. The Welsh contingent, there. What a day they

:32:01. > :32:08.had in the all-round, getting the historic bronze medal, maybe that

:32:09. > :32:11.has taken it out of her a little. They all stayed on the beam in that

:32:12. > :32:15.qualification competition. There was talk that she did not get quickly

:32:16. > :32:29.enough into the second leap and she tried to speed it up. Onyshko moves

:32:30. > :32:36.up into fourth but for how long? Charlotte Sullivan is up next. One

:32:37. > :32:42.of the youngest gymnasts here. Just 16. But she has qualified for the

:32:43. > :33:00.flare final. -- floor. Nicely controlled. Can she keep it

:33:01. > :33:18.up through the tumbling? Triple twist. Easy. And a double pike. A

:33:19. > :34:17.couple of tumbles to set her away. She will be well pleased with this

:34:18. > :34:23.performance on floor, but she did not land it. She touches down, one

:34:24. > :34:31.hallmark away, what a pity. She was going so well. -- whole mark. She

:34:32. > :34:35.gave the judges licensed to deduct. She was thinking the same as you,

:34:36. > :34:38.when she was going up to the tumble, and sometimes you can lose

:34:39. > :34:47.concentration and before you know it, your hands are down. Elizabeth

:34:48. > :35:00.Beddoe. She is staying in fourth at the moment. Well, the leader of this

:35:01. > :35:05.competition, Ruby Harrold. With her beam routine, now, how much pressure

:35:06. > :35:10.is she under here? She knows that this is the piece that matters. If

:35:11. > :35:25.she can do her best here, she has got a chance. Probably the piece

:35:26. > :35:35.that Ruby has two work hardest at. -- has two work. Nice height and

:35:36. > :35:41.flight on the leaps. Punching... Oh. Goodness me. That surprises me.

:35:42. > :35:52.She looked so strong and positive, she dipped her shoulder on take-off.

:35:53. > :36:04.My word! APPLAUSE Very secure with the combination.

:36:05. > :36:09.The acrobatic series. She has become a bit jittery now. She has to keep

:36:10. > :36:26.her focus. Change leg ring, the judges would

:36:27. > :36:32.have to be generous to feel that her touch tax base foot touches her

:36:33. > :36:40.head. Strong in the free cartwheel. -- per

:36:41. > :36:49.Lift, find the floor, she did. Well done. Right at the beginning of the

:36:50. > :36:55.routine. How costly will befall proved to be? There is not long to

:36:56. > :37:02.wait to find out. -- will that fail proved to be?

:37:03. > :37:16.Just the left shoulder dipping write-down. You can see Beth's

:37:17. > :37:23.expression. The dismount had a few deductions yesterday, that was much

:37:24. > :37:27.better. So, Elizabeth Black has watched the two gymnasts ahead of

:37:28. > :37:33.her making mistakes. 11.84 Charlotte Sullivan.

:37:34. > :37:52.The last gymnast on floor, Georgina Hockenhull. She starts with a

:37:53. > :37:57.difficult leap. This is a difficult time Bill. She needs all of her

:37:58. > :38:09.concentration and confidence. Double Arabian. Easily performed. --

:38:10. > :38:13.difficult tumble. But this takes all of her skill. One and a half,

:38:14. > :38:20.walk-out, needs to be smooth into the doubletalk. What a shame. --

:38:21. > :38:38.double tuck. Good leaps, the change leg ring. She

:38:39. > :38:42.has do hit the splits here. Good half term. She needs to forget her

:38:43. > :38:50.last problem and make sure that she concentrates for this tumble. --

:38:51. > :38:59.turn. She moves out. Not being precise enough on this piece. Very

:39:00. > :39:25.powerful young gymnast. She struggles to always harness her

:39:26. > :39:31.power. Double pike to finish, that is more like it. APPLAUSE

:39:32. > :39:32.She has left us with the impression of the wonderful dismount, the

:39:33. > :39:43.tumble, double pike. You must be very proud? Yes. Ruby Harrold, she

:39:44. > :39:52.will stay ahead of Fragapane. We'll she stay ahead of this lady? -- will

:39:53. > :39:57.she. Elizabeth Black was in bronze medal position. Coming into the

:39:58. > :40:22.rotation. But now she has her sights set on gold. This is a difficult

:40:23. > :40:24.routine. The highest difficulty score in the competition. She

:40:25. > :40:36.negotiates the double spin. That was their problem in the team

:40:37. > :40:40.competition. Very strong and positive on the pike front

:40:41. > :40:40.somersault. Backflip layout. She is very light far powerful gymnast,

:40:41. > :40:57.good, light landings. -- for a powerful gymnast. Now, this is very

:40:58. > :41:13.difficult. Backflip, fault West. -- full twist. It is very risky as

:41:14. > :41:31.well. Change leg leap. Change leg half. A little bit untidy, both of

:41:32. > :41:42.those leaps. That was strong, the tuck front somersault. She stamps

:41:43. > :41:53.those out so well. Just the dismount to come. Two and a half twists,

:41:54. > :42:00.nicely performed, that dismount. Goodness me, it has run through the

:42:01. > :42:08.group. The problems on the beam have set up a grandstand finale on the

:42:09. > :42:13.last rotation, that's for sure. It was a bit of an epidemic. It is not

:42:14. > :42:16.good to see anyone fall, but when you see three major contenders, here

:42:17. > :42:21.we are, this is so difficult. She looked online when she set up.

:42:22. > :42:25.Probably a bit short. On-air time. That was well controlled. Nothing

:42:26. > :42:29.wrong with the two and a half twists. What a cracking final piece

:42:30. > :42:44.of operators we will have here. Georgina Hockenhull scored 11.966.

:42:45. > :42:51.-- of apparatus. STUDIO: We wondered before the competition started

:42:52. > :43:10.whether it will be close, and it turns out you need some kind of

:43:11. > :43:15.accountancy degree to work out who needs what in the final round. Beth,

:43:16. > :43:21.you have been doing the sums. Between Ruby Harrold and Fragapane

:43:22. > :43:23.there is 0.133 and between Ruby Harrold and Hannah eight is only

:43:24. > :43:25.1.2. Such small fractions. And obviously Fragapane has a massive

:43:26. > :43:28.score after posting 14.7 yesterday. Cloudier, she did think, that's it,

:43:29. > :43:34.it is over for me, but obviously she packed her beam routine with extreme

:43:35. > :43:41.difficulty. Even though she fell, because the routine was so

:43:42. > :43:50.difficult, you know, she could afford to give a bit away? We are

:43:51. > :43:55.still awaiting the Canadian score. It will be so close between all four

:43:56. > :43:58.of them. She literally went for the wobble, her foot slipped, and she

:43:59. > :44:01.did everything do save it. That was the hardest move. To keep her nerve

:44:02. > :44:03.for the full twisting tuck, that shows nerves of steel. They will be

:44:04. > :44:09.needed on the last piece of apparatus Budgie has a good floor,

:44:10. > :44:15.Fragapane. Incredible. -- but she has. She was almost a full mark in

:44:16. > :44:44.front of her English team-mate yesterday. Yes

:44:45. > :44:47.front of her English team-mate beam and felt, it has gone, but now

:44:48. > :44:52.that she has seen she is still in with a chance, she will go out for

:44:53. > :45:02.the floor with dynamic power, and the judges are looking for the

:45:03. > :45:15.massive powerful tumbles to stay within the lines. The mixture of

:45:16. > :45:28.jumps and leaps and also the artistry. Fragapane has got it all.

:45:29. > :45:37.She has a bit of body popping in her routine. She will go last and the

:45:38. > :45:50.crowd will be hoping she takes the title. You used to play on that as

:45:51. > :45:54.well, get your castanets out and have everyone clapping away, with

:45:55. > :46:02.your Spanish feel. It is the 1-piece way you can do crowd interaction. On

:46:03. > :46:10.floor, you take the energy and you do have this control of the energy.

:46:11. > :46:15.Can Ruby Harrold cope with this? I think she can. She has done it at

:46:16. > :46:23.major championships be. She has been in world and European finals.

:46:24. > :46:29.Between all four of them there is literally 0.3. And she could climb

:46:30. > :46:33.back up there as well, Hannah. Yes. And to have three of our English

:46:34. > :46:38.girls out of the four in medal contention, that would never have

:46:39. > :46:43.happened a few years ago, so it's great for British gymnastics, and

:46:44. > :46:48.obviously Beddoe and Wales have a great standing here as well. Don't

:46:49. > :46:54.go anywhere. The final piece of apparatus in the women's all-around

:46:55. > :46:59.competition. Beckett from South Africa.

:47:00. > :47:43.meant to be a second leap there. You have to have a leap passage and

:47:44. > :48:23.without it she would lose 0.5. A double-take at the finish. --

:48:24. > :48:28.double tuck. Not the sparkly floor routine we would have expected from

:48:29. > :48:33.her. You have to be a bit more professional than that when you are

:48:34. > :48:38.disappointed. These gymnasts have experienced all kinds of emotions in

:48:39. > :48:44.a short period of time. That is what most of them are not used to, and it

:48:45. > :48:50.is if the court to get yourself together afterwards. She just caught

:48:51. > :48:55.her foot and she was going to go. We understand that Elizabeth Black has

:48:56. > :49:05.put in an enquiry on the last piece of operators dealt with apparatus,

:49:06. > :49:07.and her school. Yesterday she scored a lot more for a routine that was

:49:08. > :49:13.similar with one fall. This will be her last piece of

:49:14. > :49:34.apparatus. A five the difficulty. Lovely presents all the way through

:49:35. > :49:40.this competition. That is how she wraps it up. A nice full twist and a

:49:41. > :49:45.broad smile. What a way to finish and all- around competition. She has

:49:46. > :49:53.had a great time and won a few friends. Look at this.

:49:54. > :50:05.Dead centre. Nice, clean lines. Good, sharp twist. Stretch through

:50:06. > :50:13.the knees. Lovely vault. Good way to finish.

:50:14. > :50:23.Kirsten Beckett finishes with an 11.633.

:50:24. > :50:29.Well, Hannah Whelan got a bronze at the European Championships on this

:50:30. > :50:36.piece of apparatus. She is qualified with the third highest score for the

:50:37. > :50:37.floor final and my word, does she need the performance of her life

:50:38. > :52:10.here. That is exactly what England

:52:11. > :52:20.ordered! A beautiful routine, packed with difficulty. And absolute

:52:21. > :52:29.perfection. Real entertainment. And the too performance marrying a dance

:52:30. > :52:39.with the tumbling. Super stuff. It could be a late charge. Such an

:52:40. > :52:41.atmosphere, and she just built it there. The whole audience was with

:52:42. > :52:58.her. Terrific stuff. 13.933. The scores kept building.

:52:59. > :53:06.And she has certainly made a lot of friends here, the Malaysians.

:53:07. > :53:09.The Australian was joking to me a few days ago she has not vaulted for

:53:10. > :53:35.ages. She has got attitude. She is loving

:53:36. > :53:42.every minute. She is the oldest on the team and is loving every second.

:53:43. > :54:05.minute of this competition. Elizabeth Black has put in that

:54:06. > :54:11.enquiry for her school and it has been rejected, so I think she's

:54:12. > :54:15.going to have to change her attitude here, going into this last piece,

:54:16. > :54:21.because there is no point in dwelling on it. Absolutely not, and

:54:22. > :54:24.she's got a big floor. Hannah Whelan, 13.5, goes into first place

:54:25. > :54:41.for the moment. Lizzie Beddoe seventh coming into

:54:42. > :54:42.this final rotation. She did win floor at the British Championships

:54:43. > :56:14.this year. finish for her. Well, she may move

:56:15. > :56:19.up from seventh. But that's it. She can do no more. All pieces done.

:56:20. > :56:26.That is the all-around competition over. She led the Welsh team so

:56:27. > :56:58.effectively to their bronze medal. Full twist. Nice in the air. Good,

:56:59. > :57:06.confident, clean. A good last two apparatus.

:57:07. > :57:18.Plenty of attack. Good conversion. Slightly off centre, but so much

:57:19. > :57:30.power. A great job. Four pieces done. Good line. Lifted the chest. A

:57:31. > :57:36.really nice conversion. Snaps well. Good extension through the

:57:37. > :57:40.shoulders. Look how she lifts the shoulders up. To try to make the

:57:41. > :58:34.most of the dismount. STUDIO: A critical stage in the

:58:35. > :58:40.gymnastics, very tense. It could go either way. Or anyway, really,

:58:41. > :58:46.between the leading contenders. We've just about run out of time

:58:47. > :58:51.here on BBC One, but do not worry, we will be turning over immediately

:58:52. > :58:58.to BBC Two, where we will continue straightaway with the gymnastics. So

:58:59. > :59:03.you won't miss a thing. It's very exciting and tense. Please stay with
