:01:41. > :01:44.Another evening of stunning performances here in Glasgow, with

:01:45. > :01:49.the packed crowd at Hampden Park again spurring on athletes from

:01:50. > :01:51.Scotland and all the Home Nations. With just three days of action left

:01:52. > :01:59.at the Games, the medals will be coming thick and fast today as well.

:02:01. > :02:06.Natalie Melmore and Jamie-Lea Winch are in the gold medal match.

:02:07. > :02:11.15-year-old Tin-Tin Ho of England is in action

:02:12. > :02:15.at the table tennis again today, this time in the women?s doubles

:02:16. > :02:16.where she partners Karina Le Fevre. Then another young star,

:02:17. > :02:19.England?s Jack Law goes for his second gold of the Games.

:02:20. > :02:25.He partners Chris Mears in the three metre synchronised

:02:26. > :02:28.springboard final. And this evening we?ll have

:02:29. > :02:28.the moment athletics fans have been waiting for -

:02:29. > :02:41.Usain Bolt in action on the track. So the timetable

:02:42. > :02:46.for the next few hours on BBC One. In just a moment,

:02:47. > :02:49.Scotland?s Eilidh Child will be here to talk about the terrific run that

:02:50. > :02:50.got her a silver in the women's 400m hurdles last night.

:02:51. > :02:53.Then, at around 9.15, we?ll take you to watch the early

:02:54. > :02:57.action in that women?s pairs gold medal match at Kelvingrove.

:02:58. > :03:01.Natalie Melmore and Jamie-Lea Winch of England take on South Africa?s

:03:02. > :03:06.Tracey Lee Botha and Colleen Piketh. We?ll return to that regularly

:03:07. > :03:10.during the course of the morning. At 9.30, we're live

:03:11. > :03:13.at the table tennis, where England?s doubles pair of Karina Le Fevre and

:03:14. > :03:17.Tin Tin Ho play the Australians, Jian Lay and Miao Miao.

:03:18. > :03:20.And just before 11:30am we?ll head over to the diving

:03:21. > :03:24.in Edinburgh where England?s emerging star Jack Law partners

:03:25. > :03:32.Chris Mears in the Men?s synchronised three metre springboard

:03:33. > :03:38.final which we'll show you live. Already live

:03:39. > :03:38.and available via the Red Button that lawn bowls gold medal match in

:03:39. > :04:16.the women?s pairs from Kelvingrove. you can watch every single bit of

:04:17. > :04:20.The Games. You can see exactly what is on at any given moment and take

:04:21. > :04:26.your pick. What a night it was at Hampden

:04:27. > :04:34.Park, despite the challenging weather. And one particularly

:04:35. > :04:43.memorable moments, courtesy of Eilidh Child.

:04:44. > :04:52.Roar of Hampden Park hoping to carry Eilidh Child to a medal. She has

:04:53. > :04:59.started well. Spencer, watching for her. Can she produce the sort of

:05:00. > :05:10.performance she normally does. Eilidh Child running a great race.

:05:11. > :05:17.In second place at the moment. Spencer leading it. Spencer

:05:18. > :05:27.attacking it. Eilidh Child clear at the moment. Spencer almost climbing

:05:28. > :05:33.over that one. The last barrier for Spencer of Jamaica. She will take

:05:34. > :05:39.the gold medal and Eilidh Child of Scotland takes the silver. Russell

:05:40. > :05:50.of Jamaica, the bronze medal. 54.12, the winning time. What a moment for

:05:51. > :06:01.Eilidh Child. A huge roar from the crowd.

:06:02. > :06:15.And here she is. Congratulations. As you stood on the medal podium, did

:06:16. > :06:19.moment? I tried to take a deep breath and embrace it and take it

:06:20. > :06:27.on. Thinking back, it does feel a bit of a blur. So much was going

:06:28. > :06:33.on, I did my lap of honour and saw my family. It was a bit of a dream.

:06:34. > :06:42.Go back to the evening began, did you have a good feeling going into

:06:43. > :06:46.the race? I knew I had been in good shape. I have been working on my

:06:47. > :06:53.stride pattern. I just had to go out there and execute the perfect race.

:06:54. > :06:59.I just thinking in my head, running your own race. Thankfully that is

:07:00. > :07:04.what I did. I think we can see you running it again. Stride pattern is

:07:05. > :07:10.important because you have got to be in exactly the right position for

:07:11. > :07:15.the hurdles. It is important you don't lose any momentum off the

:07:16. > :07:23.hurdle. As soon as you back off, it gives another athlete the chance to

:07:24. > :07:28.get away. Do you know all the steps, are you counting as you go along?

:07:29. > :07:33.From which ever like I take the hurdle with, I know how many strides

:07:34. > :07:39.I have done. Then I felt my legs going and I was trying to get to the

:07:40. > :07:43.finish line as soon as possible. I did not know what was going on

:07:44. > :07:47.around me. I wanted to make sure that if I wasn't going to get the

:07:48. > :07:52.gold medal, I was definitely going to get the silver. And you did. It

:07:53. > :07:57.has been fantastic for all of the athletes at Hampden Park. But you

:07:58. > :08:00.are different, because it is your face on all of the posters across

:08:01. > :08:11.the city? When I ran face on all of the posters across

:08:12. > :08:15.different in the final, it went up a notch, and I did not expect

:08:16. > :08:16.different in the final, it went up a that allowed. Was it unnerving

:08:17. > :08:23.different in the final, it went up a because it goes Wyatt at the start?

:08:24. > :08:32.Yes, a couple of times when you have gone in there, they are shouting

:08:33. > :08:36.your name. There you are afterwards, supporters and your

:08:37. > :08:41.your name. There you are afterwards, family. My family, they were in

:08:42. > :08:44.different parts of the stadium. Every 20 metres I was meeting

:08:45. > :08:50.somebody I knew, either a friend or a member of my money. It was lovely

:08:51. > :08:56.to share that moment with them. How did you deal with the pressure? It

:08:57. > :09:04.is a privilege to be on the posters, but it means the expectation is

:09:05. > :09:07.immense? I have had a really good support network around me and my

:09:08. > :09:14.coach has kept me grounded. I did some work with a sport psychologist,

:09:15. > :09:20.and he has gone through things with me and help me deal with the

:09:21. > :09:25.pressure and expectation. What I have been trying to do is think

:09:26. > :09:31.about it as another race. I had done so many 400 metres in my career...

:09:32. > :09:37.Not easy to do that, to think about it as just another race? Fantastic

:09:38. > :09:44.profile for your event, but it does have its challengers? It really

:09:45. > :09:50.does. The last couple of days has been hard. I have been going through

:09:51. > :09:54.mixed emotions. Gone from feeling really nervous, to being calm. Then

:09:55. > :10:03.going back to being really, really nervous. When I went on to the

:10:04. > :10:08.starting line I was calm and it was about executing the race and making

:10:09. > :10:16.sure it went to plan. What happens next, you will carry on to compete?

:10:17. > :10:20.The 400 by 400 relay. I will not be running the heats, but I think the

:10:21. > :10:24.girls we have put in the heats will do enough to make the final and I

:10:25. > :10:30.will come in tomorrow so hope the Lee I can rest today. So hopefully

:10:31. > :10:36.you can experience Hampden Park again tomorrow and you will be doing

:10:37. > :10:42.more competition soon? We have the European competition soon, so just

:10:43. > :10:48.over a week before we leave for them. I will go back to my base in

:10:49. > :10:56.Bath and get back into training and refocus. This will help? It will

:10:57. > :11:00.give you a fantastic boost? Yes, I will go to the European

:11:01. > :11:05.Championships knowing it will not be as much expectation on me, but I

:11:06. > :11:09.will enjoy that. I don't know how much you will be able to enjoy the

:11:10. > :11:17.game is beyond your own sports, but how do you feel it has gone? It has

:11:18. > :11:23.gone so well, the Scottish report that has been shown to all of the

:11:24. > :11:31.athletes has been amazing. -- Scottish support. All the athletics

:11:32. > :11:39.team watched Hannah Miley on the first day, and it kick-started

:11:40. > :11:43.everything else. Such a good feeling in team Scotland at the moment. We

:11:44. > :11:50.have put on such a good show and a lot of other athletes have compared

:11:51. > :12:02.this to the London Olympics. It is a huge compliment to Scotland and to

:12:03. > :12:13.Glasgow. You have played your part in delivering 14 Scotland and your

:12:14. > :12:15.home country. Enjoy wearing your medal and good luck for the next

:12:16. > :12:16.stage of Tom petition. Thank you very much indeed.

:12:17. > :12:18.Time to get the first of the live action. Yesterday we had some

:12:19. > :12:25.terrific in the men's para bowls. We can go to Kelvingrove now, and see

:12:26. > :12:29.what is in store. It is a very big day at the Kelvingrove Centre. It

:12:30. > :12:35.has just started raining, which will affect the bowlers. We have the

:12:36. > :12:40.final of the men's four, England taking on Scotland. Later at about

:12:41. > :12:45.5:30pm we have the men's singles final. Darren Burnett of Scotland, a

:12:46. > :12:52.policeman who had to get special permission to be playing today and

:12:53. > :12:56.he plays the Canadian. But this morning it is the final of the

:12:57. > :13:00.women's pair. England won the gold medal in Delhi and they are

:13:01. > :13:06.represented by Natalie Melmore and Jamie-Lea Winch. They have made a

:13:07. > :13:11.good start, but since then it has all been South Africa. They have

:13:12. > :13:16.taken control of the match and lead 7-1 after four ends. It is the

:13:17. > :13:19.higher score aggregate after 18 ends that wins. Let's go to our

:13:20. > :13:40.commentators. Hopefully it will not get any

:13:41. > :13:54.heavier than this. Needed to drop down a little bit more. Very good

:13:55. > :14:02.effort. Lovely weight. Very well matched. South Africa have done very

:14:03. > :14:23.well in bowls over the last few years. Winning a lot of medals.

:14:24. > :14:42.Looking good. The country must be very proud of their bowlers.

:14:43. > :14:52.Just needs to break back. There it goes. Not bad and it gives the skip

:14:53. > :14:58.chance to push into things knowing there is a lack bowl in position. --

:14:59. > :15:40.back bowls. not want to be too tight. But it is

:15:41. > :15:47.a little too tight. She has pushed the England bowl in.

:15:48. > :15:51.No real damage done. But it will make it very attractive now for

:15:52. > :16:00.Natalie Melmore to reach this. She could sit it out, take the Jack

:16:01. > :16:08.back. Got one waiting for it.

:16:09. > :16:13.She is playing with controlled weight. Hooks await a little bit but

:16:14. > :16:19.it is holding, that will do. Goodness me. That through ball is

:16:20. > :16:40.now starting to look very lonely indeed.

:16:41. > :16:49.A very wide shot she was trying to play but she has lost her bowl, it

:16:50. > :16:56.was too heavy. Trying to bring the Jack back and disturb their head.

:16:57. > :17:14.It has gone. A great shot. A certainty.

:17:15. > :17:25.A not to smile about yesterday, she was brilliant. -- a lot. Making sure

:17:26. > :17:36.with a second, some extra weight. They have now only one bowl in the

:17:37. > :17:42.head so this is not easy. I am not sure if it will make too

:17:43. > :17:50.much difference, with four down. You are always conscious of not

:17:51. > :18:14.attacking too much. That is a horrible result. Totally

:18:15. > :18:17.horrible result. She came away from her own bowl. She has actually

:18:18. > :18:26.It was looking good all the way. forced her way through a

:18:27. > :18:31.It was looking good all the way. Going through the gap.

:18:32. > :18:36.She won't be happy with that one but Going through the gap.

:18:37. > :18:49.got nothing for that. The opportunity was always going to

:18:50. > :19:00.present itself, just a taking it.

:19:01. > :19:06.A freebie on offer, but she has missed it.

:19:07. > :19:19.Indicating a four to England. That cataracts the four they lost in

:19:20. > :19:27.the seventh end. -- second end. They will be feeling a lot happier. They

:19:28. > :19:34.haven't been getting the results. It has changed now. I would expect this

:19:35. > :19:40.game to be tight from now on. They have had the initial jousting

:19:41. > :19:45.against each other in the first few ends to get into some sort of

:19:46. > :19:49.pattern of play. The players seem to have found their

:19:50. > :20:03.line quite well. Switching a little bit in the first couple of ends.

:20:04. > :20:21.A much shorter name jack. -- length. It is an art in itself, casting the

:20:22. > :20:30.jack, one that is often forgotten. It is important when you have a

:20:31. > :20:53.weight change, that you can put it the length that the team wants.

:20:54. > :21:04.It makes the case for specialist leads, players who are used to

:21:05. > :21:14.casting the jack day in, day out, in batches. Bringing players in who

:21:15. > :21:17.skips. I always believe the lead in particular is a specialist position.

:21:18. > :21:22.I would certainly agree with that. It has got the weight, it looks

:21:23. > :22:00.good. Once a bowl gets in front of the

:22:01. > :22:06.jack, it is very difficult to get it away.

:22:07. > :22:11.I think that may have been heading towards her own bowl.

:22:12. > :23:02.We have now moved on. None of those are a long way from

:23:03. > :23:11.the jack, they are all short, making it a little difficult for the skips

:23:12. > :23:24.from the mat. The advantage of being down there is seeing the shots

:23:25. > :23:33.required. The players are generally staying

:23:34. > :23:35.away from playing heavy shots. Goodness me, that was an adventurous

:23:36. > :23:50.weight. It looked like it was tracking well.

:23:51. > :24:15.The edge helped. That gives Natalie a start. That

:24:16. > :24:20.would have been good. She might have been tempted with a forehand because

:24:21. > :24:23.it was her own bowl coming in, but a stain on the hand that is the most

:24:24. > :24:29.consistent. You can see from the line they have

:24:30. > :24:33.been taking, doing very well, all players.

:24:34. > :24:40.That has opened the door a little bit. Pushed the short one out of the

:24:41. > :24:49.way. And given Natalie a chance to come through.

:24:50. > :25:00.Just under it. She will be close to the jack. A super shot. The door was

:25:01. > :25:05.open just slightly by South Africa. And Natalie thought, I will have a

:25:06. > :25:07.piece of that, thank you very much. It trundled through. Taking all the

:25:08. > :25:36.danger away. Tracking well, it didn't have the

:25:37. > :25:45.weight. It has stopped short, second short. Not a lot of damage done.

:25:46. > :25:53.More importantly for England, after picking up a four, they have got a

:25:54. > :26:02.single. You always want to do that when you score.

:26:03. > :26:10.Look at that, picking up the jack. She knew it was there but it was

:26:11. > :26:27.hidden from the mat. She played down the length hoping for an edge.

:26:28. > :26:30.Jamie Lee bowling the jack a little further than Natalie would have

:26:31. > :27:09.liked. They are getting good bowls in there

:27:10. > :27:24.all the time. I have played with the odd lead way you are not sure where

:27:25. > :27:28.the jack will go. -- where. Just thinking back to recent matches I

:27:29. > :27:38.have played. Just play it wherever you want to!

:27:39. > :29:19.A better line. It has a chance. A little tap. Kept the bowl in.

:29:20. > :29:56.Finishing in a good position, it would have picked up the jack.

:29:57. > :30:02.lady was supporting. Good line as well. Starting to build up a little

:30:03. > :30:29.bit against South Africa. Caught the front bowl, but it has

:30:30. > :30:42.opened it up. Should be able to get through now. Down on a good line.

:30:43. > :30:49.Needs to miss the blue. That has closed it again! There was a gap.

:30:50. > :30:58.Just makes it a little bit more difficult in terms of judging the

:30:59. > :31:09.wait. Have two allowed the bowl to bend on the bias. This is all about

:31:10. > :31:20.contact. It was a good effort. Lovely weight to get to the jack.

:31:21. > :31:31.If Natalie can find a way just underneath that or give it a good

:31:32. > :31:43.push. Put the another shot. It is difficult to tell.

:31:44. > :31:54.Colleen Piketh is coming to look at this. Bowls have been catching and

:31:55. > :32:02.edging on everything. Best one has been round the front. That is not

:32:03. > :32:15.easy. It is not easy. They might be a shaft up on the other hand. --

:32:16. > :32:21.shot up. If you get caught on the front one with the draw, the bowl

:32:22. > :32:27.will stop dead. It is not easy to get out of. You have to play this

:32:28. > :32:28.with confidence. Got to be looking to draw four seconds on this

:32:29. > :33:02.occasion. -- for second. I am surprised she is going up to

:33:03. > :33:12.the management. She obviously has her ideas. Just wants to run it past

:33:13. > :33:19.him, I suppose. Three options. Take your choice. Draw the shot, hit it

:33:20. > :33:30.or play it through. It really isn't any more complicated than that.

:33:31. > :33:38.Might be just a bit of affirmation about what she wants to play. She

:33:39. > :33:46.certainly has a chance. Did not want that front one. Needed to be under

:33:47. > :33:55.that. Did not fancy that shot on the backhand. But she would have stayed

:33:56. > :34:03.on the forehand. -- thought she would have.

:34:04. > :34:12.STUDIO: A very tight match. This is the gold medal match. England facing

:34:13. > :34:14.South Africa. We are going to leave this for a moment but coverage

:34:15. > :34:20.continues on the red button if you want to carry on watching this

:34:21. > :34:26.match. The bronze medal match in the lawn bowls pairs is available to

:34:27. > :34:36.watch now and that is live on BBC Three. We will be going to the table

:34:37. > :34:48.tennis with the competition entering its final stages. Let's go out to

:34:49. > :34:53.the Scots screened SportsCenter. Tin-Tin Ho, who was in the mixed

:34:54. > :34:59.doubles. Today she is in the women's doubles and they are taking

:35:00. > :35:21.on Jian Lay and Miao Miao. The commentator is Paul Hand.

:35:22. > :35:32.She has another to consolidate and stretch the lead, Miao Miao.

:35:33. > :36:05.Splendid points. Fierce hitting from both teams. Caroline is studying

:36:06. > :36:11.law. She is a member of the Teeside University elite athlete's team.

:36:12. > :36:12.That includes funding, physio care and she speaks about making the game

:36:13. > :36:57.more aggressive now. quick, assertive doubles to conserve

:36:58. > :37:12.her energy for her up and coming semifinal. After this match we have

:37:13. > :37:17.men's singles third round. The Australians, two points from the

:37:18. > :37:34.opening game here in this best of five-game match. Bidding for a place

:37:35. > :37:37.in the quarterfinals. Game point, Miao Miao serving. What an emphatic

:37:38. > :38:31.put away from the 41-year-old. I haven't told the pen holder grip

:38:32. > :38:38.is sufficient close to the net. They can get good angles. As you see with

:38:39. > :38:54.the wrist manipulation and the grip they have. Real forte of Jian Lay,

:38:55. > :39:01.and Tin-Tin Ho, of course. Miao Miao on the Australian team, she is very

:39:02. > :39:03.much the killer on the team, as is Karina Le Fevre for the English

:39:04. > :39:41.team. Some say it is the slight chink in

:39:42. > :39:52.the armour of Jian Lay, her forehand can be a bit flat at times.

:39:53. > :40:00.Testament to what I was saying. Great forehand flick return.

:40:01. > :40:04.Testament to what I was saying. return winners. On it like a flash.

:40:05. > :40:16.Testament to what I was saying. Poised, full of intent. Picture of

:40:17. > :40:27.focus. While! Miao Miao on that as well. Great pounds. -- pounds. Three

:40:28. > :40:34.consecutive winners from the Australian team - make up for. What

:40:35. > :40:55.a run of points for the Australians. Getting all

:40:56. > :41:02.She is an aggressive player and she moves well but did not get her body

:41:03. > :41:32.around that one. The team that started as strong

:41:33. > :41:36.favourites, starting to race away with this a little. Just pegged back

:41:37. > :42:07.a bit there, Karina Le Fevre. They need to stem the tide of

:42:08. > :42:19.errors, the English duo in this race to three games. Tin-Tin Ho, with the

:42:20. > :42:29.second of the service. You can see the dexterity of Jian Lay's wrist.

:42:30. > :42:36.Hammering that return down the line. So versatile and tough to

:42:37. > :42:38.read. An expressionless. You don't get to know her emotions. Very

:42:39. > :42:47.difficult to play against in that regard. Two points away in the

:42:48. > :42:59.second game. That will put them two thirds on their way to the wind. --

:43:00. > :43:04.win. Experience telling. The green and gold are in the ascendancy. Two

:43:05. > :43:10.thirds of the way there. Solid start to this match. The youngsters with

:43:11. > :43:52.plenty to ponder against Jian Lay and Miao Miao of Australia.

:43:53. > :44:04.The coach is particularly animated. He understands the gravitas of the

:44:05. > :44:09.situation. Things running away too quickly from an English. The

:44:10. > :44:16.Australians have only conceded nine points. Karina Le Fevre to serve.

:44:17. > :45:25.Beginning of the third game. Incredible turnaround. How did she

:45:26. > :45:35.get that smash back? Going to look at it again. What a reflex from Jian

:45:36. > :45:45.Lay. Incredible turnaround. Time-out has been called by Alan Cooke 14

:45:46. > :46:09.England. They are delighted at the way they are seeing the bowl.

:46:10. > :46:23.over this match already. They were favourites from the start. The

:46:24. > :46:42.fifth-seeded duo. Really imposing themselves out there now.

:46:43. > :46:51.Ever the aggressors, the Australians. The youngsters are very

:46:52. > :47:01.much up against it now, trailing four points in the third game.

:47:02. > :47:16.The school board is strangling and stifling their creativity and

:47:17. > :47:18.imagination reaction matched -- the score board is strangling their

:47:19. > :47:41.creativity and imagination. Two points away from the match, the

:47:42. > :47:50.Australian duo. Jian Fang Lay will be delighted. She has conserved her

:47:51. > :47:57.energy. They have played a really efficient, brilliant match, frankly.

:47:58. > :48:03.They got on the front foot from the start.

:48:04. > :48:23.There it is, then, in no time at all, the Australian duo when. --

:48:24. > :48:28.win. They are now assured a place in the semifinals. They will probably

:48:29. > :48:35.run into the second seeds. -- quarterfinals.

:48:36. > :48:39.Tin-Tin Ho and Karina Le Fevre having a hard time against

:48:40. > :48:45.Australia, playing for a four -- for a place in the quarterfinals.

:48:46. > :48:50.Tin-Tin Ho is still in the mixed doubles. We saw her play in that

:48:51. > :48:55.yesterday. Her next match is a semifinal with her partner Liam

:48:56. > :48:56.Pitchford, later today. We will still see her compete in the table

:48:57. > :49:13.tennis. Follow all the action as it unfolds

:49:14. > :49:22.in Glasgow, share every moment with 17 streams of live sport. Keep

:49:23. > :49:28.up-to-date with medal alerts and tables, join the conversation. The

:49:29. > :49:35.Commonwealth Games, be part of it, across the BBC.

:49:36. > :50:20.I am excited about being in the tent.

:50:21. > :50:27.Nothing has changed here, it is incredibly tight. England got off to

:50:28. > :50:33.a good start. South Africa were leading 7-1 at one stage, but

:50:34. > :50:40.England got a big score. They took the lead briefly. Now, South Africa

:50:41. > :50:47.are level again. Nine ends. Natalie Melmore and Jamie-Lea Winch trying

:50:48. > :50:52.to win a medal for England. They are up against a very good South African

:50:53. > :50:57.pair in Tracy-Lee Botha and Collen Piketh. Let us rejoin our

:50:58. > :51:06.commentators Sharyn at David Gauke. Piketh. Let us rejoin our

:51:07. > :51:45.-- and A very good effort. A lot better,

:51:46. > :52:19.moving the jack towards the back bowl.

:52:20. > :52:39.Jamie-Lea has a chance, another touch of the jack.

:52:40. > :53:27.Collen Piketh. A very experienced player, from Johannesburg. She has

:53:28. > :53:28.been playing the game for a considerable time at the highest

:53:29. > :53:52.level. She may well have got a shot out of

:53:53. > :54:10.it. Her hobbies, reading, scrap

:54:11. > :54:13.booking. That is unusual. She will have something after this event for

:54:14. > :54:28.her scrapbook. A good effort.

:54:29. > :54:36.Natalie, not needing to change too much from her last.

:54:37. > :54:55.Colleen, coming down to have a look. Probably a good idea on this

:54:56. > :55:12.occasion, it has changed quite a lot since she delivered her first.

:55:13. > :55:21.Nothing from the marker at the moment to indicate the line.

:55:22. > :55:29.It could well be two for South Africa. If that is the case, there

:55:30. > :55:32.will be serious thoughts about the back position, dropping just

:55:33. > :56:12.slightly in the line. She has gone quite wide, so she may

:56:13. > :56:17.be looking to be around the back, for cover.

:56:18. > :56:23.That is a handy ball. Probably very wise. In that situation you either

:56:24. > :56:29.go deep or try to drop one in short. The blocker has to be

:56:30. > :56:43.absolutely perfect. The only problem is not playing the

:56:44. > :56:50.blog is you are leaving it wide open for Natalie Melmore to get into it.

:56:51. > :56:59.She is in the area. That is a help.

:57:00. > :57:13.It certainly got one. It could be a measure. Only getting one.

:57:14. > :57:25.Tracy-Lee, she has better eyesight than most of us! That is what our

:57:26. > :57:33.ring says as well. The last delivery sadly producing

:57:34. > :57:39.this one. It almost took the front bowl out as well.

:57:40. > :57:42.A nice little run for South Africa. Three ends in a row, picking four

:57:43. > :58:23.shots. A lovely opening bowl from

:58:24. > :58:56.Tracy-Lee. That is what you want to do. Get one

:58:57. > :59:03.closer. That is the way it works. In a bronze medal play-off. Northern

:59:04. > :59:11.Ireland have picked up a four, to level the scores.

:59:12. > :59:46.Very good bowling here. A heavy bowl.

:59:47. > :59:55.You get an idea how wide a line it is, it is coming down night, the big

:59:56. > :01:32.sweep. That is a good bowl.

:01:33. > :03:03.Giving it a chance. Just a slight edge. Too far. Unlucky. It is hard

:03:04. > :03:09.to criticise. I don't want to criticise, she had to draw in

:03:10. > :03:15.another shot. Could not afford to leave it. She wasn't a long way over

:03:16. > :03:22.with the weight. It was only just reaching. It is easy to criticise,

:03:23. > :03:32.but this is not a particularly easy rink. Needed to be under that. Her

:03:33. > :03:39.bowling behind, it just did not go her way that time. A lot of

:03:40. > :03:45.reaction. If you look at the mat and voles in the head, it is not easy

:03:46. > :03:54.the way it is sitting. -- bowls. Latterly moving onto the backhand.

:03:55. > :04:02.Going for the back position. It is hard to get it perfect but that is a

:04:03. > :04:08.good bowl. Colleen Piketh is going to have to play the same sort of

:04:09. > :04:14.all. I'll go bowls, by its very nature, quite complex because of the

:04:15. > :04:22.weather conditions. These greens have been immaculately prepared, but

:04:23. > :04:25.nothing is perfect. The margins are slightly different in terms of the

:04:26. > :04:49.out door game. Similar bowl. Has to trust the swing

:04:50. > :04:59.without putting extra weight on. Just put that extra bit of weight

:05:00. > :05:04.on. Little bit of a gift for England and they will not play their last

:05:05. > :05:24.bowl. We'll be happy to take the single. One shot. Always good to

:05:25. > :05:30.have a single in concrete. You like that statue don't you? It took me a

:05:31. > :05:36.long time to find out where that statue was. Then you discovered it

:05:37. > :05:41.was in Glasgow. Studio-macro we will be leaving this

:05:42. > :05:51.match for a little while on BBC One. There is about an hour to go. Very

:05:52. > :05:58.evenly matched they are. You can continue watching this I pressing

:05:59. > :06:04.the red button. There is another match in lawn bowls live on BBC

:06:05. > :06:13.Three now. Ron 's medal match, jersey taking on the Northern

:06:14. > :06:20.Ireland pair. Right now, the score is 9-9. Jersey are chasing their

:06:21. > :06:24.first medal of The Games. Only three days of competition left

:06:25. > :06:28.in Glasgow but many sports will be looking at their performance here is

:06:29. > :06:32.the focus shifts to the 2016 Olympics. Matthew Pinsent has been

:06:33. > :06:44.assessing their relative health with the opening ceremony in Rio 735 days

:06:45. > :06:49.away. In a few days, we will cross over an

:06:50. > :06:55.Olympic threshold and officially be closer to Rio 2016 than we are to

:06:56. > :07:04.London 2012. Glasgow has been a wonderful reminder of what we as a

:07:05. > :07:10.nation can do, both hosting and competing at a multisport events. It

:07:11. > :07:16.will be an English triathlon double. But elite sport is hard. Far from

:07:17. > :07:19.the medals and the cheering crowds, performance director 's will be

:07:20. > :07:27.assessing where we are on the road to Rio. How much information can we

:07:28. > :07:35.really get from the results in Glasgow? Daniel Keatings, swinging

:07:36. > :07:43.straight, swinging clean and keeping his rhythm. Gymnastics is definitely

:07:44. > :07:49.stronger than it was in London. It is a very exclusive club. Max

:07:50. > :07:57.Whitlock is over 90 consistently. So he is top three in the world. What a

:07:58. > :08:05.wonderful swim that is an team England win the final race. We have

:08:06. > :08:21.never won the men's 400 x 400 relay, the Australians have always

:08:22. > :08:25.wanted. There are some sports, that is good as the results have been,

:08:26. > :08:31.will not a contested in the Olympics. It is thank you from

:08:32. > :08:39.Glasgow but no thank you in Rio for netball, bowls and squash. The gold

:08:40. > :08:44.medal goes to Nick Matthew. The sports but do crossover, both

:08:45. > :08:49.Commonwealth and Olympics have shown up varying degrees of success and is

:08:50. > :08:54.concerned. Sir Bradley Wiggins and England have to settle for the

:08:55. > :09:01.silver. Always watershed moments, London was going to be it. Lost

:09:02. > :09:10.leadership, big talent and it will take time to rebuild and it is not

:09:11. > :09:18.certain it will happen in time for Rio. Coming of age for the

:09:19. > :09:21.20-year-old. We have a whole new crop of people coming through, which

:09:22. > :09:25.is encouraging. New names, 19, 20 years of age and at Rio, what they

:09:26. > :09:26.have learned here will stand them in good stead in two years. Olympic

:09:27. > :09:32.sport is shaping up. They are confident we are benchmarking at

:09:33. > :09:36.least as well at this point as we were out of London. It is a good

:09:37. > :09:41.sign. Well Glasgow has offered healthy competition, not all events

:09:42. > :09:47.are world-class, banks to the absence of some superpower,

:09:48. > :09:50.non-Commonwealth nations. That is not to say some performances would

:09:51. > :09:54.not stand up when the world comes calling. This is the Commonwealth

:09:55. > :09:59.Games and not the world Championships. All we can look at

:10:00. > :10:04.the times swimmers are doing. They are world-class. We had four

:10:05. > :10:10.swimmers ranked number one in the world. The competition within the

:10:11. > :10:10.British team is so strong, not only are they

:10:11. > :10:16.British team is so strong, not fighting for places to get on the

:10:17. > :10:19.team to go to places like the world Championships and the Olympics, but

:10:20. > :10:25.they are so dominant and the whole world is looking at our home nations

:10:26. > :10:29.and asking how are they getting those results and producing these

:10:30. > :10:36.performances, not only with such difficulty but such good execution.

:10:37. > :10:40.One thing is for sure in sport, you cannot stand still. So for all of

:10:41. > :10:45.the success and disappointments, there is always room for improvement

:10:46. > :10:49.or a medal of any colour could be further away than ever. It is good

:10:50. > :10:55.to have ambition and I hope we come back with medals from Rio. But it

:10:56. > :11:00.will be tougher and we should not be naive about it. It is a tall order.

:11:01. > :11:07.Athletics will never bring you 12 medals. But I can see is winning two

:11:08. > :11:12.or three gold medals and five or six other medals and improve what we did

:11:13. > :11:20.in London. Jodie Williams gets the silver medal. Bianca Williams, the

:11:21. > :11:25.bronze medal. Lots of swimmers have stepped up to the plate. They will

:11:26. > :11:38.be in their prime in two years time, if not, they have another four years

:11:39. > :11:43.until the next Olympics. What it was from 2007 through to two -- 2012,

:11:44. > :11:49.cannot be the same again. They are trying to find out what that is.

:11:50. > :11:52.They don't have the strongest leadership in place to make the

:11:53. > :12:01.right decisions. He has pulled it out of the bag. Now, we are getting

:12:02. > :12:06.more specialists. You have Louis Smith, who you will always associate

:12:07. > :12:10.with the pommel horse. Now we have Louis Smith on six pieces of

:12:11. > :12:25.apparatus, so it means we have a shout on every piece. Where does

:12:26. > :12:29.that leave us? UK Sport have been public to be the first nation to win

:12:30. > :12:36.more Olympic medals at The Games after hosting. That, by any measure

:12:37. > :12:42.comes under the heading of ambitious.

:12:43. > :12:55.I am delighted Dame Kelly Holmes, ambitious.

:12:56. > :13:01.president of team England is here. How many positive lessons can we

:13:02. > :13:07.take from Rio because this is not a fully global competition? You are

:13:08. > :13:11.right. I think what we can take from the experience of Glasgow is that

:13:12. > :13:18.each of the teams for me seem better prepared. In a cycle of four years

:13:19. > :13:26.from Olympics to Olympics, there are a lot of changes. There are those

:13:27. > :13:28.who retire and it opens up doors for new blood. When you have a

:13:29. > :13:32.Commonwealth Games, which is the only other multisport event outside

:13:33. > :13:38.of the Olympics, the nations are split. We have seven nations and the

:13:39. > :13:42.Great Britain athletes are split across but it allows the sport to

:13:43. > :13:48.add extra athletes into the teams to see how they do. So more people get

:13:49. > :13:52.the chance to compete at a Commonwealth Games than they do at

:13:53. > :13:57.the Olympics. The conclusion Matthew Pinsent came to, gymnastics and

:13:58. > :14:02.swimming have been the ones who have taken people by surprise?

:14:03. > :14:09.Gymnastics, swimming and judo, I would add into that. That has been

:14:10. > :14:13.really good for the teams across the board. Gymnastics is an amazing

:14:14. > :14:18.event where people are so in awe of the capabilities of these young

:14:19. > :14:20.people and what they have done. We have seen across the nations,

:14:21. > :14:29.especially England and Scotland, some good, good talents. Because

:14:30. > :14:36.they are young, it bodes really well the Rio, because this is a big

:14:37. > :14:40.platform to move forward. Also fantastic experience of competing

:14:41. > :14:45.under this spotlight? Absolutely. It is the only other multisport event

:14:46. > :14:50.outside of the Olympic Games. It allows you to have experience of the

:14:51. > :14:57.Olympics and a sense of the village. It is an amazing experience that can

:14:58. > :15:01.blow it or make it for an athlete. Anything about the Commonwealth

:15:02. > :15:07.Games is a replica of the Olympics, but on a smaller stage. It enables

:15:08. > :15:12.them to have the atmosphere to work with other people from sports who

:15:13. > :15:18.are established, so they have been to these major championships. You

:15:19. > :15:23.have young blood in with champions. You are all part of a team. It was

:15:24. > :15:29.like that or you because you had a major breakthrough at a Commonwealth

:15:30. > :15:37.Games in 1994? You have made me feel old now, but 20 years ago...

:15:38. > :15:43.Experience. I was 24 years old but new to the senior scene because I

:15:44. > :15:48.was a full-time soldier as well. When I went to the Commonwealth

:15:49. > :15:54.Games, it Lumia way. That opportunity to be part of a team.

:15:55. > :15:57.One of my abiding memories was not just winning gold medals, but

:15:58. > :16:02.sharing an apartment with Sally Gunnell. She was Olympic champion

:16:03. > :16:09.from 1992, world Championships and world record-holder from 1993 and I

:16:10. > :16:12.was in the same apartment. I remember thinking, I cannot believe

:16:13. > :16:20.I am in the team let alone sharing with Sally Gunnell. What happens on

:16:21. > :16:25.the sidelines, does it feed into performance? We did not have eyes

:16:26. > :16:33.that's back then, but she used to have a cold shower. I don't do cold

:16:34. > :16:44.or cold water, but on this occasion she went and won her gold medal. I

:16:45. > :16:52.was going out for my 1500 metres so I had a cold shower before and I

:16:53. > :17:03.won. And I thought, I have learned something from somebody. Now, all

:17:04. > :17:12.these athletes have a wheelie bin three quarters full of ice. That is

:17:13. > :17:22.a simple one now. Now sports have become so professionalised, you have

:17:23. > :17:28.hot and cold baths, hot and cold therapy. What you don't not see is

:17:29. > :17:36.behind-the-scenes preparation -- do not see. All of the in-depth

:17:37. > :17:42.preparation that goes on right until we see them form here. Everything

:17:43. > :17:47.from reassessments with the physiotherapists, nutrition, making

:17:48. > :17:53.sure their warm up is perfected. It is much more professionalised.

:17:54. > :18:00.Across all the sports, really. Some sports are struggling still with

:18:01. > :18:06.funding, shooting, squash, netball, because they are not in the

:18:07. > :18:12.Olympics. Sports have a different set up, different influence, funding

:18:13. > :18:17.does make a big difference. It is the finer detail. When you come to a

:18:18. > :18:25.village like this, we are help -- we can help them prepare better.

:18:26. > :18:30.I want to ask you particularly about athletics, the fantastic

:18:31. > :18:36.performances we have seen. Last night, also from the early days of

:18:37. > :18:43.athletics. Adam Gemili was stunning when we saw him in Hampden Park.

:18:44. > :18:53.Jodie Williams. Bianca Williams. They were amazing. I was so pleased

:18:54. > :18:58.for Adam. He is such a nice guy. Such a nice man. But he seems very

:18:59. > :19:04.professional. He really wants it and he gives it all. It was so nice for

:19:05. > :19:08.somebody who has everything that it takes to be a champion, actually

:19:09. > :19:12.feel like they are achieving through that work. Getting a medal gives you

:19:13. > :19:18.hope for the next one. Your time is crucial. Even if you

:19:19. > :19:22.finish on the podium, you and your performance directors have to look

:19:23. > :19:25.at your time and assess your chances in the Olympics.

:19:26. > :19:32.What is different in the common while James is sports have different

:19:33. > :19:36.standards. But there will be qualifications for the Olympics. For

:19:37. > :19:39.some sports, they may not have hit the standard required for the

:19:40. > :19:44.Olympics even if they got a medal here, which is based on times and

:19:45. > :19:50.selections. That does not mean they don't have a chance for that. They

:19:51. > :19:55.have the European Championships, that becomes the next level of

:19:56. > :20:00.accommodation for some events. Then the World Championships. -- level of

:20:01. > :20:07.competition. Looking last night at Hampden Park,

:20:08. > :20:14.people like Jodie Williams, Jazmin Sawyers. There was no expectation

:20:15. > :20:20.Jazmin Sawyers would get a medal and she was able to enjoy it. It will

:20:21. > :20:24.never be like that for her again. That is where things change. Some

:20:25. > :20:30.people are able to deal with the expectation and pressure from being

:20:31. > :20:38.in the limelight. There are a lot of athletes here who would have

:20:39. > :20:45.performed out of their skin and put themselves out in the public

:20:46. > :20:50.domain, being a medallist. It is now them to almost take it to that next

:20:51. > :20:56.level. In their individual sport will know where they sit within the

:20:57. > :21:00.global landscape. Is important. Those who have stepped up in

:21:01. > :21:05.commonwealth status hopefully have ambition to go further.

:21:06. > :21:18.With the right support. Looking at swimming, we have seen then proud,

:21:19. > :21:25.Ross Murdoch. -- Ben Proud. What is the key to developing them?

:21:26. > :21:28.My personal opinion is, when you have achieved something at this

:24:25. > :24:36.We are, at this point. I have to be careful what I say. I personally

:24:37. > :24:41.think that England have done brilliantly. They really have.

:24:42. > :24:48.Australia, of course, are a nation to be recognised, they are always

:24:49. > :24:52.number one by a lot more medals. I cannot say it is not going to change

:24:53. > :24:58.but I can say I think that England have done better than they have done

:24:59. > :25:03.in this stage of the Games, we are so far ahead, we have a good chance

:25:04. > :25:11.of winning. Can England get another medal at the

:25:12. > :25:16.athletics, the 800 metres final? We have Jessica Judd and Jenny

:25:17. > :25:24.Meadows from England, Lynsey Sharp from Scotland. Watching the heats,

:25:25. > :25:27.we have the Kenyan who would probably be written down as

:25:28. > :25:35.favourite. But if Jessica Judd continued running, a young girl with

:25:36. > :25:38.a mature head, she can win a medal. And the weather does make a

:25:39. > :25:45.difference. All of them are running in the same

:25:46. > :25:48.weather. It is about tactical awareness, not getting boxed in,

:25:49. > :26:01.having confidence. With Jenny Meadows, she is an established

:26:02. > :26:06.athlete. She has won medals before. I think she won't give up the

:26:07. > :26:21.fight. If I look at current form, Jessica Judd looks on form. The last

:26:22. > :26:30.100m for Sharp, it was do or die, and she went storming down. She was

:26:31. > :26:34.lucky to get a fastest loser place. We will be watching Hampden Park

:26:35. > :26:41.closely today. Thank you. You are going to the athletes village.

:26:42. > :26:46.I am going to the dining hall, every food from around the nations. I am

:26:47. > :26:57.not an athlete anymore so I can have what I want!

:26:58. > :27:04.Thank you for coming in. Let us go to the Scotstoun Sports Centre and

:27:05. > :27:06.the men's single, Ryan Jenkins taking on for drink or of England.

:27:07. > :27:33.Commentating is Paul Hand. Paul Drinkhall the first game. They

:27:34. > :28:18.are having a time out. We join them as they go into the second.

:28:19. > :28:50.Simply brilliant from Jenkins! Position hitting -- precision.

:28:51. > :28:53.Despite the loss of that very first -- close first game. Both men are

:28:54. > :29:11.demonstrating such mental fortitude.

:29:12. > :29:20.Fortune favours the brave, they say, none more so than Paul Drinkhall. It

:29:21. > :29:35.is a real treat. Jenkins not coming out the right

:29:36. > :29:44.side of the big points at the moment. It is costing him dear. It

:29:45. > :29:48.is frustrating for him. He knows, you had to admire Paul drink all,

:29:49. > :29:51.his ability to come through the crunch. I guess that is why his

:29:52. > :30:17.ranking is 85, and Jenkins is 250. Nicky Jarvis, the coach, there. The

:30:18. > :30:18.father of Matt Jarvis. A sporting gene which is very strong running

:30:19. > :30:57.through their family. Drinkhall, in the ascendancy. Both

:30:58. > :31:18.games have been tightly contested. Has Jenkins got more in the tank?

:31:19. > :31:22.Not entirely happy with the ball. Noticed something just prior to

:31:23. > :31:36.serving. We'll have a change and a little

:31:37. > :31:56.knock up. We will resume, Ryan Jenkins with

:31:57. > :32:31.his second serve will stop. Little shout of disapproval verse

:32:32. > :33:08.from Drinkhall. As hard as Ryan Jenkins has tried,

:33:09. > :33:09.he cannot seem to extend the lead any more than the margin of one

:33:10. > :33:27.point. Can he build from here? Drinkhall

:33:28. > :34:25.has done so well to contain him. So far!

:34:26. > :34:47.than Paul Drinkhall. 35, against the 24-year-old. Plays in Germany. As do

:34:48. > :34:54.so many players now. Loves spending time with friends and Amberley when

:34:55. > :35:18.he is away from the table, Drinkhall. -- friends and family.

:35:19. > :35:20.You have two credit Drinkhall for containing this man. He has played

:35:21. > :36:01.brilliantly today. Terrific loop backhand from Jenkins.

:36:02. > :36:06.The man who does so well, into the ninth of ten days and has been

:36:07. > :36:17.watching 80% of his compatriots matches. To do that and take care of

:36:18. > :36:25.a performance like this is Admiral. Still cannot put a run of more than

:36:26. > :36:36.two points together consecutive league against Paul Drinkhall. --

:36:37. > :36:44.consecutively. Frustration beginning to show with Jenkins. Furious

:36:45. > :36:49.missing that, which leaves Drinkhall two points away from a quarterfinal

:36:50. > :36:56.place in this meant's singles events.

:36:57. > :37:24.Brilliant redirection up the line from Jenkins. Look at that.

:37:25. > :37:34.Margins in this game are so minimal, it is frightening. Just a

:37:35. > :37:40.millimetre here, you miss the target or find the net. A laps in

:37:41. > :37:49.concentration, a moment of luck and the whole game can just swivel on

:37:50. > :38:02.its axis. 9-9 here. Brilliant from Jenkins.

:38:03. > :38:09.Game point to Jenkins, only for the second time in the match. He could

:38:10. > :38:22.not convert the last one, can he do so here?

:38:23. > :38:30.Opportunity snuffed out by Drinkhall again. He has played the big moments

:38:31. > :38:46.admirably. Brilliant point from Drinkhall. Got

:38:47. > :39:00.on the front foot early in the rally. Took the Welshman's time and

:39:01. > :39:02.space away. Match point, Drinkhall. Beg your pardon, it is not it is the

:39:03. > :39:21.best of seven. So it is game point. Brilliant from Paul Drinkhall.

:39:22. > :39:27.Demonstrating such mental strength to the delight of Joanne in the

:39:28. > :39:47.stands. Studio-macro Paul Drinkhall in

:39:48. > :39:51.control. This is the third round of the men's singles in the table

:39:52. > :39:56.tennis. We will bring you back to this later on. Let's go back to

:39:57. > :40:01.Kelvingrove because we have been watching the gold medal match in the

:40:02. > :40:09.women's pairs of the lawn bowls and it was proving impossible to call

:40:10. > :40:16.it. How is it looking now? It is still very tight. England leading

:40:17. > :40:23.16-14 after 15 ends, but there is not much between these talented

:40:24. > :40:27.teams. Jamie-Lea Winch and Natalie Melmore trying to win the gold medal

:40:28. > :40:38.like they did in Delhi four years ago but up against them Colleen

:40:39. > :40:42.Piketh and Tracy-Lee Botha. Not much to choose between them. Let's join

:40:43. > :40:53.our commentators to see how this unfolds. Sharyn Renshaw and David

:40:54. > :40:57.Caulker. Two plays with input from the management. I think she must

:40:58. > :41:04.play a forehand now and try and get the ball through the gap. More

:41:05. > :41:08.chance of the ball going on to the jack on the backhand. But the

:41:09. > :41:39.backhand offers a more reliable shot. This is not easy.

:41:40. > :42:05.She got it absolutely perfect. She could not have got the edge of this

:42:06. > :42:09.better. Good bowl, good results. Get a lot of credit from me for even

:42:10. > :42:17.attempting it on the forehand. This will be pushing in with weight, I

:42:18. > :42:25.would expect. They have good back bowls. They are well protected from

:42:26. > :42:35.behind. Last role of the end. Got to be in

:42:36. > :42:40.the area but does not want to be too wide. What a result! I thought she

:42:41. > :42:54.was on the high side but pushed the front bowl in.

:42:55. > :43:05.Just clipping the front bowl. The jack was always going back. It did

:43:06. > :43:15.not bounce off it. She knew it. She knew as soon as she got the angle

:43:16. > :43:25.right that it was coming in. Two great bowls from the skips. Big

:43:26. > :43:30.turnaround on that one. Massive turnaround. Getting some really good

:43:31. > :43:36.shots towards the end of each end. It is all to do with bowls in their

:43:37. > :45:39.head again? They are creating the opportunities.

:45:40. > :46:10.Playing a better line this time. Chance for a connection, it pushed

:46:11. > :46:26.the ball through, opens up the jack. A very good bowl.

:46:27. > :47:19.Good leading. It has given her skip every opportunity to win this match.

:47:20. > :48:07.Looking good. Just pulling up a little short.

:48:08. > :48:21.South Africa need to get this one in.

:48:22. > :48:33.Taking it may be too far through. Certainly, the shot to play. We will

:48:34. > :49:11.have to wait and see who lies. It is indicating two to South Africa.

:49:12. > :49:26.Natalie is playing down on the back and, rather difficult. -- backhand.

:49:27. > :49:28.I'm not quite sure if she could see. This is going to be a very

:49:29. > :49:45.interesting last hand. The difficulty for clean is that the

:49:46. > :49:58.backhand is safer, but if she moves the jack, she could possibly give it

:49:59. > :50:03.away -- Colleen. The forehand is more reliable and more likely to

:50:04. > :50:12.sweep into the jack. The percentage is on the forehand shot.

:50:13. > :50:21.You would have to think they could be more reliable. You are going into

:50:22. > :50:27.the last end one down, which is great. Give yourself every chance.

:50:28. > :50:31.If you are going to play the forehand on the sweep, you have to

:50:32. > :50:41.be careful of your weight. You do not want to be anything above jack

:50:42. > :50:48.hi. You can afford to be below it. -- jack high.

:50:49. > :51:00.She is down on that side. A very safe line. No change.

:51:01. > :51:10.I don't think there is any change, anyway.

:51:11. > :51:15.They are going to measure it. Taking one out. It was indicated it

:51:16. > :51:22.was two to South Africa very quickly and early. It really hasn't changed.

:51:23. > :51:29.I can understand them wanting to be sure. Yes! So can I. You don't want

:51:30. > :51:39.that hanging over your head going into the last end.

:51:40. > :51:48.I don't think that was much of a measure. More wishful thinking. A

:51:49. > :51:52.psychological thing. Let us play absolutely safe.

:51:53. > :51:54.Two to South Africa. This is going absolutely safe.

:51:55. > :51:56.Two to South Africa. This is going to be a very interesting last end.

:51:57. > :52:12.Yes. A little team conference needed. To

:52:13. > :52:20.discuss the length. The length they feel they want to play. Maybe a bit

:52:21. > :52:23.of encouragement to each other. They haven't scored in this

:52:24. > :52:28.direction for some considerable time. You have to go back to that

:52:29. > :52:34.little run they got in the eighth, ninth, 10th end. After that it has

:52:35. > :52:39.been going in other direction. I can understand why they are having this

:52:40. > :52:48.chat. A little bit on the shorter side, the jack. So, England are in

:52:49. > :52:55.front 17-16. And this is the last end of the match.

:52:56. > :53:07.Of course, if South Africa can score a single, it will be a tide end, and

:53:08. > :53:15.a one and shoot out effectively. -- tied.

:53:16. > :53:47.That is a lovely opening bowl from Tracy-Lee.

:53:48. > :53:58.Jamie-Lea, behind the jack, as normal. Sophie

:53:59. > :54:03.her team to another gold medal. Definitely the women's

:54:04. > :54:13.her team to another gold medal. England squad is doing very

:54:14. > :54:22.Bobby Donnelly, from South Africa. Also a gold medallist here. Didn't

:54:23. > :54:41.go well in the singles. One of the few that Jamie-Lea has

:54:42. > :54:46.played short of the jack. Neither of the Leeds have played too

:54:47. > :54:49.many short. I think this has been a very good

:54:50. > :54:59.game, good leading, good skipping, no weaknesses.

:55:00. > :55:26.Colleen Piketh will be saying, well done, lead, you have done your job.

:55:27. > :55:31.It got the wrong bowl. There really only one shot

:55:32. > :55:36.It got the wrong bowl. There Colleen, to get behind the jack. It

:55:37. > :55:41.is not Colleen, to get behind the jack. It

:55:42. > :55:54.while! I know you were happier with the last end. You have played

:55:55. > :55:55.while! I know you were happier with position. One of the best in the

:55:56. > :56:08.world at the moment. They really

:56:09. > :56:22.this one. The only danger is that the back of it. She is white. She

:56:23. > :56:42.doesn't want to be short. -- wide. Natalie will have a chance.

:56:43. > :56:49.Just to let you know, the last end of the bronze play-off is level at

:56:50. > :56:57.14 - 14. So, two really good matches. Just dropping inside. I am

:56:58. > :57:02.not sure if I would go near that. The second shot is definitely

:57:03. > :57:06.beatable. You don't want to make it easy for Natalie Melmore. She has a

:57:07. > :57:12.good weight shot on her. She is more than capable of coming into it.

:57:13. > :57:18.The last thing you want to do is sit one level with the jack or slightly

:57:19. > :57:30.short, which could be used. Trying to encourage that one around.

:57:31. > :57:36.It is protected. This is a big bowl. Needs a second shot with this.

:57:37. > :57:44.She has gone through. Colleen, don't go near it. It is a big bowl for

:57:45. > :58:06.Natalie to draw that. Just go deep. Anything short would be bad news.

:58:07. > :58:11.That is a very wise decision. She did not need to go to the manager to

:58:12. > :58:17.discuss that one. Keep it deep. The last thing you want to do is drop

:58:18. > :58:26.one short. It would make it easier. -- easier for them.

:58:27. > :58:34.I would try to draw for second. She has had two attempts already.

:58:35. > :58:39.So may look for a different option. I think you are right. There is no

:58:40. > :58:45.guarantee of getting the front bowl on. If you get the wrong age of it,

:58:46. > :58:49.you are only going to promote it. I think she needs to draw the second

:58:50. > :58:56.one. For me, she has been one of the best players in this event with her

:58:57. > :59:05.last bowl, in the singles as well. Initial bit of destruction from the

:59:06. > :59:12.other end, she will regroup. -- distraction. A good idea to take her

:59:13. > :59:19.time. Movement from one area catching her eye. She is going for

:59:20. > :59:25.it. Playing weight. She is good at this shot, looking for a percentage

:59:26. > :59:37.on it. Oh! The bowl followed, but she saved the match. It is one to

:59:38. > :59:46.South Africa. That was a gutsy shot. She played the weight shot. Well...

:59:47. > :59:52.The marker has already indicated it is one to South Africa.

:59:53. > :00:01.It is close. Even having the camera at the top, I

:00:02. > :00:14.wouldn't like to discuss this too much, let them get on with it.

:00:15. > :00:22.What a gutsy shot. She is so good with that last bowl. I thought she

:00:23. > :00:31.was coming off the front edge. But, jack movement. You have two

:00:32. > :00:32.attempts to draw. Drop one well short, one behind, look for another

:00:33. > :00:43.option. There were three in it, taking one

:00:44. > :00:50.way wasn't good enough, she had to get movement on the jack. It was a

:00:51. > :01:14.speculative shot. It had to be hit perfectly.

:01:15. > :01:29.in by so much. I cannot blame them measuring, it is for gold medal.

:01:30. > :01:41.There it is. Absolutely perfectly onto that. Great contact. Solid

:01:42. > :01:49.bowl, no edges. She thought she had it. But she saved the game and that

:01:50. > :01:59.this stage that is what she wanted to do. That was her first target,

:02:00. > :02:05.save the game. 17-17. England, for the first time in the match have

:02:06. > :02:14.brought the mat up the rink. Have not seen this so far. Has been up a

:02:15. > :02:19.little bit before but not as much as this. So a definite change for the

:02:20. > :02:59.tight It shows the quality of Natalie

:03:00. > :03:03.being able to do something. She does it in the singles, so many times

:03:04. > :03:13.with the last bowl. Scratching out something. Northern Ireland in the

:03:14. > :03:28.bronze medal position of one bowl away from lifting the bronze medal.

:03:29. > :03:45.Good opener from Tracy-Lee Botha. There is cheering in the background.

:03:46. > :03:51.It is the girls from Northern Ireland who have won the bronze in

:03:52. > :04:09.the pairs. They are absolutely delighted, and so they should be.

:04:10. > :05:01.Too much weight, but giving it a chance to take the jack will stop.

:05:02. > :05:16.It is under. That is an massive bonus to get the edge of the jack.

:05:17. > :05:30.Reaching up and giving it a chance. Now she is in a good position.

:05:31. > :05:42.Here is the last role from Tracy-Lee Botha. Just edging the jack out and

:05:43. > :05:52.Here is the last role from Tracy-Lee putting it in a very good

:05:53. > :06:05.Holding. She has opened it and she has the back position. Won't be easy

:06:06. > :06:11.to beat that back position if she ditches the jack. I would not bet

:06:12. > :06:17.against Natalie Melmore to do that. This bowl has to be behind. It is

:06:18. > :06:23.going under. You have got three shots, you don't need one in there.

:06:24. > :06:37.Wasted. This jack is going to end up in the ditch. So strong with the

:06:38. > :06:45.running role and it is on the favourite hands, the forehand. Just

:06:46. > :06:51.holding off. South Africa have got a choice. They either block it, which

:06:52. > :06:55.I would not do because the backhand is available. Or go as deep as you

:06:56. > :07:04.possibly can. The worst thing they is available. Or go as deep as you

:07:05. > :07:08.could do is get one around it. Surely that is just going in amongst

:07:09. > :07:20.all the rest. They only need one, not five. Has to go again. She will

:07:21. > :07:28.adjust for this one. Half jack or better. Almost certainly will ditch

:07:29. > :07:35.it and hold onto it for the gold medal. Just missed it. South Africa

:07:36. > :07:44.will take the gold medal. What a fantastic match. Brilliant game. All

:07:45. > :07:49.the way down to the last end. Congratulations Tracy-Lee Botha and

:07:50. > :07:54.Colleen Piketh. They played really good bowls. So did England.

:07:55. > :08:00.Jamie-Lea Winch and Natalie Melmore both played extremely well. It came

:08:01. > :08:07.down to that site end. So little in it. A brilliant performance by South

:08:08. > :08:16.Africa to win this match. They just keep doing it at major events. They

:08:17. > :08:37.really do. Come to the Commonwealth Games and take gold medals.

:08:38. > :08:43.Commiserations but I think it should also be congratulations to the

:08:44. > :09:05.England team. Wonderfully played match. Scoreboard just coming up.

:09:06. > :09:11.South Africa have beaten England 20-17.

:09:12. > :09:16.STUDIO: South Africa take the gold medal in the women's pairs at

:09:17. > :09:25.Kelvingrove. An absolutely gripping match. These two teams were so

:09:26. > :09:29.finely matched all the way through. It was just in those last stages

:09:30. > :09:35.with an extra end South Africa managed to take the gold medal. I

:09:36. > :09:42.know as a fan of them, you have been following this the sometime, but

:09:43. > :09:47.some of us will be thinking that lawn bowls could be so dramatic? I

:09:48. > :09:53.hate to say I told you so, but I have told you how exciting the sport

:09:54. > :10:00.is. Disappointing for England in the end, it was a fabulous match to

:10:01. > :10:04.watch. The England team had their opportunities and led with one end

:10:05. > :10:09.to go. We have to give credit to sell Africa, a tremendous fightback

:10:10. > :10:16.to claw their way back into the match. They have one their fifth

:10:17. > :10:19.gold medal at these games in lawn bowls. And the combination of Tracey

:10:20. > :10:27.both and Colleen Piketh have produced some tremendous stuff.

:10:28. > :10:31.Natalie Melmore was also beaten in the final of the singles. She will

:10:32. > :10:36.be disappointed, but she has won a couple of silver medals. Jamie-Lea

:10:37. > :10:40.Winch was part of the fours team that lost to South Africa in the

:10:41. > :10:47.quarterfinals earlier in the week. She will also be a bit crestfallen.

:10:48. > :10:53.Hope leet we will be able to speak to them. Descartes being

:10:54. > :10:56.commiserated right now. But there was the bronze medal match going on

:10:57. > :11:04.as well between Northern Ireland and jersey. Everyone from jersey hoping

:11:05. > :11:07.for a first medal of The Games. Unfortunately they came up short

:11:08. > :11:12.because Northern Ireland have won the bronze medal. Another tight

:11:13. > :11:19.match, 14-14 going into the final end. Northern Ireland are merged on

:11:20. > :11:24.top so the quest for a first medal for jersey continues.

:11:25. > :11:32.Congratulations to Barbara Cameron and Mandy Cunningham of Northern

:11:33. > :11:38.Ireland. Another tight, dramatic match. We think the players are

:11:39. > :11:44.coming to is very shortly. We will be able to interview them, but back

:11:45. > :11:50.to Michelle. Final day of the lawn bowls competition at Kelvingrove.

:11:51. > :11:56.Let's talk to our Lee Williams who has been our social media guide to

:11:57. > :11:58.The Games. How was the reaction to last night at Hampden Park, the

:11:59. > :12:05.weather was dismal but stunning performances? Eilidh Child ripped

:12:06. > :12:12.everybody, online as well as TV. Judy Murray leading the tribute

:12:13. > :12:20.saying, she is a typically understated Scottish superstar.

:12:21. > :12:27.Jessica Ennis-Hill said, brilliant run, lots of pressure. Jessica

:12:28. > :12:32.Ennis-Hill dealt with the most pressure at London 2012 knew what

:12:33. > :12:37.Eilidh Child was facing. Dai Greene said they should have changed the

:12:38. > :12:42.timetable so Eilidh Child could have had an hour of singing the

:12:43. > :12:45.proclaimers. It was a fantastic atmosphere. She might be still

:12:46. > :12:52.competing so we might see more of her. How is the 71 club going?

:12:53. > :13:02.Incredibly well. We have managed to get hold of two athletes at the

:13:03. > :13:08.village. It is the challenge to interview at least one athlete from

:13:09. > :13:16.each of the 71 nations competing here. We have done the Seychelles,

:13:17. > :13:22.Bangladesh, New Zealand, British Virgin Islands, and Scotland, I

:13:23. > :13:29.think they are called. Scotland are the last? You would think you would

:13:30. > :13:33.be able to find somebody to talk to. Where are you going to go to find

:13:34. > :13:38.the more elusive ones? Bangladesh have a gymnast which we will be

:13:39. > :13:43.watching this afternoon. New Zealand, we have not figured which

:13:44. > :13:49.one we will speak to. The British Virgin Islands, we are hoping to

:13:50. > :14:02.tempt into the studio tonight. We will get an update later as usual.

:14:03. > :14:09.Tonight at The Games, every night on BBC One at 10:40pm with Clare

:14:10. > :14:16.Balding and Mark Chapman. Now, so far this morning we have had a very

:14:17. > :14:21.morning, table tennis, dramatic times at the lawn bowls. Now we will

:14:22. > :14:25.go to diving. It has some of the high-quality fields. We will see

:14:26. > :14:32.jack Law in action in the three-metre springboard final when

:14:33. > :14:41.he is partnered with Chris Mears. At first a reminder of what you need to

:14:42. > :14:46.watch out for. Individual and synchronised event

:14:47. > :14:49.take place on the three-metre springboard and the ten-metre

:14:50. > :14:55.platform. Individual athletes contest the one metre springboard

:14:56. > :14:57.competition. The synchronised springboard diving,

:14:58. > :15:01.competition. The synchronised adjacent boards are used. They

:15:02. > :15:03.measure 4.8 metres long and 50 centimetres wide.

:15:04. > :15:06.adjacent boards are used. They measure 4.8 metres From the diving

:15:07. > :15:12.tower, competitors will dive side-by-side from the same ten-metre

:15:13. > :15:17.platform. This surface is six metres long and three metres wide. There

:15:18. > :15:44.are six different types, forward, backwards, reverse, inward, twisting

:15:45. > :15:47.and arm stand. So now you now how it work,

:15:48. > :15:52.impressive to watch, sometimes terrifying. Helen Skelton is over at

:15:53. > :15:55.the Royal Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh where the diving action is

:15:56. > :16:01.happening. Terrifying it certainly is. It is a

:16:02. > :16:05.goosebump inducing place to be, today we have three finals on day

:16:06. > :16:08.three of the diving. Plenty of opportunities for Team England to

:16:09. > :16:14.add to their medal stash, so far we have two gold, two silver and one

:16:15. > :16:20.bronze, we have had a preliminary round already, we are getting ready

:16:21. > :16:23.to see a synchro three metre final that involves Jack Laugher and Chris

:16:24. > :16:27.Mears, he said to me after last night "I am going to rip it up

:16:28. > :16:32.today." We will see if he can do that. Tonight we have the women's

:16:33. > :16:35.Springboard final. All three English girls and Scottish girl are through

:16:36. > :16:42.to the final. At 19 minutes past seven, we have the men's

:16:43. > :16:47.synchronised ten metre platform final which will include Tom Daley.

:16:48. > :16:52.Olympic bronze medal list at London 2012. Tonight he will be diving with

:16:53. > :16:56.James Denny. It is the first time we will have seen them in competition.

:16:57. > :17:00.But Tom Daley, he is a global star and what a time he has had similar

:17:01. > :17:09.since the Olympics in London, 2012. Here is a reminder.

:17:10. > :17:16.Oh, yes, it is a good one, we can't do any more than that. The crowd are

:17:17. > :17:21.on their feet. Tom Daley has done absolutely everything he can. Tom

:17:22. > :17:36.Daley, you would not have done any more. It is out of your hands now.

:17:37. > :17:40.2013 was a rough year for me, riddles with injury, 2000 is has

:17:41. > :17:46.come with a lot of changes, I have moved to London, I have a new coach,

:17:47. > :17:48.I am doing lots of exercises, I have changed my techniques, the

:17:49. > :17:53.competitions are going well. I have a personal best in Mexico, and came

:17:54. > :17:56.away with a silver medal. Like, gradually, making the step between

:17:57. > :18:05.being good, to try and get into the excellent category.

:18:06. > :18:10.You mentioned that personal best, what has been the difference to get

:18:11. > :18:16.that extra special score? To break a personal best is something you

:18:17. > :18:19.strive for. The littlest things make a massive difference, if I don't

:18:20. > :18:29.point any toe, if I go slightly over from vertical. The smallest mistake

:18:30. > :18:34.can cost you a personal best. -- my toe. There you go, Tom Daley.

:18:35. > :18:39.He goes into the water, hardly any splash, give him some tens. Well,

:18:40. > :18:42.get in! What was special about the Commonwealth gold? The Commonwealth

:18:43. > :18:46.Games is something that has been a massive event on the diving

:18:47. > :18:50.calendar, to be able to compete in his first one in Delhi and come away

:18:51. > :18:53.with two gold medal, I was over the moon, I couldn't wait for another

:18:54. > :18:56.four year tos get the chance to do another one.

:18:57. > :19:02.-- to get the chance to do another one.

:19:03. > :19:13.It is not so good. He lost it on the take off. Running out of room there.

:19:14. > :19:17.Maybe the flashes put him off. That was about the demon dive, the

:19:18. > :19:20.twister. Everyone has a dive they are scared of. For me it is the back

:19:21. > :19:25.twister. But I have done a lot of work on it. I have been doing

:19:26. > :19:29.everything I can, to get me to a stage where I with do it as well as

:19:30. > :19:33.I can. I am optimistic about the Commonwealth Games I will be able to

:19:34. > :19:36.nail that divement Am I right in saying you have seen a therapist and

:19:37. > :19:40.psychologist There is so many things to talk about, whether it is diving,

:19:41. > :19:44.outside of diving. It a crucial part of being able to be at the top of

:19:45. > :19:48.your game, you have to be able to mentally be in the position, to

:19:49. > :19:50.think that you can win, and also be in the position where you don't have

:19:51. > :20:05.any worries about the sport you do. To get another Commonwealth gold

:20:06. > :20:08.medal would mean so much. It only happens once every four year, it is

:20:09. > :20:13.not like an event you can do it one year and think OK, I can try next

:20:14. > :20:17.year to see if I can win. You do all those years of training, four years

:20:18. > :20:22.and you get six dives to make it count. If you mess up one dive, you

:20:23. > :20:25.are out. There is still a lot of work to be done, by the time the

:20:26. > :20:33.Commonwealth Games actually happens, I am on the end of the board,

:20:34. > :20:39.hopefullily be in with a chance. -- hopefully I will be in with a

:20:40. > :20:44.chance. So Tom Daley defends his title tonight, with new partner

:20:45. > :20:49.James Denny. The reason I am saying in that dramatic way, they have

:20:50. > :20:52.never dived together before, they don't, they don't train together

:20:53. > :20:57.very much. Why have they been put together? Tom has been focussing on

:20:58. > :21:02.his individual, that is where his computer focus has been, the synchro

:21:03. > :21:05.they have been trying to match him with a suitable partner. James Denny

:21:06. > :21:08.and Tom were in together in the dry land and they were matched

:21:09. > :21:11.effectively together, so the somersaults they do. They were OK,

:21:12. > :21:15.James has the degree of difficulty, which is the same as Tom, so there

:21:16. > :21:18.is the potential there. They did work on the lower level boards and

:21:19. > :21:24.it was noted these two are potential, so we need to trial them

:21:25. > :21:28.at some stage. Tom was on the word series stage, James Denny wasn't, he

:21:29. > :21:31.was concentrating on Springboard. They didn't have the chance to get

:21:32. > :21:35.together now. It was deemed by the powers that be and the boy, we want

:21:36. > :21:39.to give this a go. Let us see how it goes. They have been put themselves

:21:40. > :21:45.together on the ten metre and they look good. I was talking to Tom's

:21:46. > :21:49.new coach, who said for them it is all about the Olympics, she has come

:21:50. > :21:52.over, she has left Houston after 24 years to build up to the Olympics,

:21:53. > :21:55.am I right in saying this partnership is a practise for that

:21:56. > :21:59.as well? Yes, you have to explore the option, Tom, as you know, hasn't

:22:00. > :22:03.been matched with the synchro partner, we have been testing his

:22:04. > :22:07.British diving to try and find someone suitable 6789 James Denny is

:22:08. > :22:10.suitable. But obviously focussing on the individual as well, in Tom's

:22:11. > :22:16.case. But he is in Leeds, James Denny, Tom

:22:17. > :22:20.is in London. James Denny good mates with Jack Laugher and Chris mere,

:22:21. > :22:23.they have the best bromance ever, don't they. Chris Mears and Jack

:22:24. > :22:28.Laugher, they are always hanging out. They might be buying a house

:22:29. > :22:34.together! Jack Laugher and Chris Mears, diving today, in this final,

:22:35. > :22:37.three metre, let us talk about Jack Laugher, he blew the field away.

:22:38. > :22:42.Didn't go to plan for him last night. A real shame. He was the man

:22:43. > :22:46.to beat and he did five good dives but made a mistakes on one, it is

:22:47. > :22:50.interesting, his performance was exceptional but he made one mistake,

:22:51. > :22:51.that dive was pretty good. The reverse one-and-a-half,

:22:52. > :22:57.two-and-a-half twists, he is still in it on that one, it went wrong on

:22:58. > :23:02.the next one, his fifth round dive. The four Ward four-and-a-half, which

:23:03. > :23:06.is 3.8 difficulty. As he comes into the end, he doesn't get the good

:23:07. > :23:12.hurdle step and the dive gets away from him. -- forward. That is a

:23:13. > :23:16.disastrous mistake, it cost him the gold medal. He will be looking for a

:23:17. > :23:20.gold today with Chris Mears. For people who are new to diving, the

:23:21. > :23:23.hurdle step is the last step at the end You need to be in perfect

:23:24. > :23:28.balance with your feet on the end of the board. It is o common for divers

:23:29. > :23:33.to be hanging ten, all ten toes over the end of board which makes it more

:23:34. > :23:37.difficult. He said I am looking forward to be being back out with

:23:38. > :23:41.Chris, tomorrow I am going to rip it up. They have competition from the

:23:42. > :23:45.English boys, haven't they, how is this going to shape up? The

:23:46. > :23:49.Australian pair of Mitcham and Nel will be strong. It will be a tough

:23:50. > :23:54.contest. All six Dais can't make any error, let us wait and see. This is

:23:55. > :23:59.Chris earlier in the week in his individual competition. Just missed

:24:00. > :24:02.out on a medal. He will be keen to get on the podium Absolutely, they

:24:03. > :01:44.said
