:00:08. > :00:14.I am not sure what is wetter, the swimming pool or ask! That is just

:00:15. > :00:19.the start of the drama because Dan has got plenty more haven't you? A

:00:20. > :00:28.bit more diving coming up and hockey. England's Savannah Marshall

:00:29. > :00:42.has started him out gold medal match. Lucy O'Connor and Macintosh.

:00:43. > :00:56.COMMENTATOR: A two-time gold medal champion in her own right. She will

:00:57. > :01:07.be looking to get inside the superior reach. That is the reach

:01:08. > :01:12.Marshall enjoys. Both boxers trying to counter each other. Marshall

:01:13. > :01:24.taking goes straight shots, she needs to keep her foot on the

:01:25. > :01:39.outside of Fortin's. Fortin have counted well as well. -- Fortin has

:01:40. > :01:44.countered. Straight back into the fray steps Fortin. Tied up by

:01:45. > :01:51.Marshall, forcing the referee to intervene. Good footwork by

:01:52. > :02:01.Marshall. Using the Bird very well, using the angle, coming off

:02:02. > :02:04.laterally. The right hook got through. Looking for a sweet left

:02:05. > :02:13.foot in the final exchange from Marshall. The reigning world

:02:14. > :02:16.champion, as we begin this opening round, is doing very well indeed.

:02:17. > :02:50.Good round for Marshall. Marshall landing with good, straight

:02:51. > :02:58.shots. Fortin making it scrappy with her own right hook.

:02:59. > :03:12.The judges are split in terms of how they saw that opening round.

:03:13. > :03:32.Marshall getting with that left-hand, using it as a

:03:33. > :03:40.range finder right now. Darting in and out with quick use of the feet.

:03:41. > :03:46.Marshall has to keep Fortin at the end of her range. Both vastly

:03:47. > :03:54.experienced ox is at Marshall has the advantage in terms of height

:03:55. > :03:55.will stop -- both vastly experienced boxers but Marshall has the

:03:56. > :04:05.advantage in terms of height. Marshall, and incredibly

:04:06. > :04:22.accomplished boxer. Marshall parrying that final

:04:23. > :04:26.left-handed attempt from Fortin. Right hand over the top from

:04:27. > :04:33.Marshall, was a really effective shot during that flurry. Good boxing

:04:34. > :04:44.here by Marshall in the second round. Marshall has said she has put

:04:45. > :04:53.the Olympic disappointment behind. That jab continuing to be poked out

:04:54. > :05:03.by the boxers. Just deterring Fortin from her reigning attacks. She needs

:05:04. > :05:08.to give herself room here. Marshall is making good use of the ring. Good

:05:09. > :05:23.work here. That was another incredibly

:05:24. > :05:37.competitive round. You can see the exchange is there

:05:38. > :05:44.between them. Marshall on that occasion probably got the better.

:05:45. > :05:52.Some scrappy shots being thrown in, nothing particularly clear. Two

:05:53. > :05:58.judges favouring Marshall, one favouring Fortin. Incredibly

:05:59. > :06:03.competitive bout, it perhaps depends on your preference. As to which

:06:04. > :06:11.boxer you favour during that second round.

:06:12. > :06:20.BELL We are into the second half of this

:06:21. > :06:26.middleweight final, Savannah Marshall, the reigning world

:06:27. > :06:36.champion, wearing blue, from Hartlepool. And her opponent, from

:06:37. > :06:41.Qu?bec, it has been incredibly competitive in this final. Marshall

:06:42. > :06:48.put that Olympic disappointment behind her. She won the combat games

:06:49. > :06:57.but she suffered from a variety of injuries. His shoulder, foot, she

:06:58. > :07:04.was not healthy enough to compete. The Great Britain squad just eased

:07:05. > :07:06.her back into competition. It took a little bit of time to get going in

:07:07. > :07:14.this contest. She has enjoyed really

:07:15. > :07:19.displays after that bout with the She has enjoyed really

:07:20. > :07:25.Indian boxer. She has really found her movement and particularly

:07:26. > :07:27.hijab, has been a really impressive Bassett during this tournament.

:07:28. > :07:36.Particularly Bassett during this tournament.

:07:37. > :07:42.victory. I would like to see Savannah Marshall throwing a fuel

:07:43. > :07:55.more left hooks. -- a few more left hooks. Fortin had success with that

:07:56. > :07:58.left-hand. She has to make it clear, she cannot give Fortin any

:07:59. > :08:10.opportunity to get anywhere near range so she can land her own shop.

:08:11. > :08:15.-- her own shots. That landed right on the button. Fortin falling short

:08:16. > :08:25.and there is the bell to conclude round number three. And incredibly

:08:26. > :08:33.tight encounter as you would expect. One of them will have World

:08:34. > :08:37.Championship gold on their resume. Marshall just getting caught with

:08:38. > :08:51.the rear hand of Fortin. A little half step back and attempts a jab.

:08:52. > :09:11.Again, it is split. Judge capital A has scored four Fortin in every

:09:12. > :09:16.round. Peer the coaches instructing Savannah Marshall that they need a

:09:17. > :09:24.big round. BELL To the fourth and final round. Top

:09:25. > :09:30.spot on the podium is what is being competed for here. Savannah Marshall

:09:31. > :09:35.wearing blue, trying to keep at bay the onrushing aggressor, Ariane

:09:36. > :09:39.Fortin from Canada. Fortin proving impossible to resist. Good left

:09:40. > :09:47.hands to the body and head from Marshall. Fortin is not great on his

:09:48. > :09:52.footwork. Marshall so superior with her feet. She just needs to find the

:09:53. > :10:00.angles and step off laterally. Fortin very flat-footed. Marshall

:10:01. > :10:08.will make it so difficult for Fortin in this last round. Marshall

:10:09. > :10:16.continuing to work behind that left jab in insidious fashion. Left up to

:10:17. > :10:19.the body, just around the back of the rib cage. Fortin continuing to

:10:20. > :10:32.drive a way forward. That will leave an impression in the judges's mind.

:10:33. > :10:38.Aggression is often favoured. A good left cross a few moments ago from

:10:39. > :10:43.Fortin. Marshall can box on the inside but she needs to make it a

:10:44. > :10:44.bit clearer. If you box on the inside, it is difficult for the

:10:45. > :11:01.judges to see. Hard left hook. Another one getting

:11:02. > :11:04.through. Marshall just covering up. Fortin continues to drive her way

:11:05. > :11:12.forward and take the bout to the English reigning world championship

:11:13. > :11:19.gold-medallist. Fortin ending the contest on the front foot. What an

:11:20. > :11:22.incredibly tight bout we have just had for the middleweight gold medal

:11:23. > :11:30.here at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Fortin gave it her all and

:11:31. > :11:35.produced a spirited display in the fourth and final round. Particularly

:11:36. > :11:43.taking the bout to marshal. -- Marshall. That was an incredibly

:11:44. > :11:50.competitive bout. One of high skill and accurate punching. How will the

:11:51. > :11:54.judges score it? Fortin did exactly what she needed to do, putting the

:11:55. > :12:02.pressure on Marshall. Marshall throwing body shots. Nip and tuck,

:12:03. > :12:12.difficult to decide. We will see what the judges come up with. Ariane

:12:13. > :12:18.Fortin bouncing in anticipation of this verdict. Savannah Marshall not

:12:19. > :12:25.the most demonstrative of boxers. ANNOUNCER: We have the judges's

:12:26. > :12:33.decision, a split decision. In favour of the winner, now

:12:34. > :12:36.gold-medallist, Commonwealth Games women's middleweight champion, in

:12:37. > :12:47.the blue corner, representing England, Savannah Marshall!

:12:48. > :12:53.She breaks into a smile a mile wide. Just crowned the Commonwealth Games

:12:54. > :13:00.middleweight champion. A split decision victory over the former

:13:01. > :13:08.gold-medallist from Canada. What a courageous display. The boxer coming

:13:09. > :13:14.up against somebody with plenty of experience, World Championship

:13:15. > :13:19.credentials, but it was Marshall, back into the ring for the first

:13:20. > :13:23.time in some eight months, who will occupy top spot on the podium. That

:13:24. > :13:31.was the moment it was announced to the crowd. Make no mistake, Fortin

:13:32. > :13:38.played her part in a terrific, competitive encounter. But Marshall

:13:39. > :13:39.is the first woman's middleweight champion in the history of the

:13:40. > :13:51.Commonwealth Games. Three gold medals in the women's

:13:52. > :14:01.category, two one by England, one by Australia. Many congratulations, say

:14:02. > :14:08.hello to everybody in Hartlepool. Hello, everyone.

:14:09. > :14:15.How do you feel? Over the moon, so happy.

:14:16. > :14:21.Did you think you had got it? I knew I had taken the first three

:14:22. > :14:27.rounds but you never know what the judges think.

:14:28. > :14:31.One of them call it completely one-way, one the other. What did you

:14:32. > :14:38.make of it? It was a great fight. What did you

:14:39. > :14:44.make of this amazing crowd? It has been great. It felt like a

:14:45. > :14:48.lot more people than in the other stadium.

:14:49. > :14:55.How much sweeter is this given your injuries?

:14:56. > :15:03.It is great. My first time back in eight months, two take gold, I am

:15:04. > :15:08.just so proud of myself. There was a time I could not even punch. I was

:15:09. > :15:16.struggling to lift one kilogram dumbbells.

:15:17. > :15:23.Did you feel any pressure, in these Commonwealth Games?

:15:24. > :15:28.A little bit. I thought, I have not fought for eight months. It was a

:15:29. > :15:33.lot of pressure on myself. Do you have the strength to lift up

:15:34. > :15:40.a gold medal? I think I'll manage!

:15:41. > :15:54.You can probably hear behind us the introductions to the next fighters.

:15:55. > :16:01.Jangra, of India, against Fitzgerald, his moment of truth, it

:16:02. > :16:09.will be a fascinating contest. I am looking forward to this one,

:16:10. > :16:17.and the next. This was my weight division. I watched the fight

:16:18. > :16:25.yesterday, he put on a great fight. A strong kid, very aggressive. And

:16:26. > :16:38.the Indian is a good fighter, very skilful. A tough one to call.

:16:39. > :16:47.This is a real 50-50 fight. Can Scott Fitzgerald make it to medals?

:16:48. > :16:56.This is to decide the 20th Commonwealth Games men's

:16:57. > :17:07.welterweight champion. It is now time to meet the fighters. Alt of

:17:08. > :17:15.the red corner, representing England, Scott Fitzgerald! And in

:17:16. > :17:27.the blue corner, representing India, Mandeep Jangra!

:17:28. > :17:40.The referee for this one is from Slovakia.

:17:41. > :17:58.The pre-fight instructions have been issue to. -- issued. And there is

:17:59. > :18:08.the opening bell. Contrasting styles but high levels of skill. Mandeep

:18:09. > :18:15.Jangra, 12th ranked in the world. The man in the red, Scott

:18:16. > :18:20.Fitzgerald, from Preston. Jangra, lots of tempting and teasing. Scott

:18:21. > :18:29.Fitzgerald is a classic counterpuncher.

:18:30. > :18:37.Fitzgerald's counterpuncher.

:18:38. > :18:46.crucial against a good opponent. He needs to be sharp and accurate.

:18:47. > :18:54.Those are the shots I would like to see him throw.

:18:55. > :19:02.Very important. Very seldom does he hold his feet, Mandeep Jangra uses

:19:03. > :19:14.every inch of the ring for cashing in with daring combinations and

:19:15. > :19:23.retreating, invariably with his hand down. He draws the attention of the

:19:24. > :19:28.referee, Fitzgerald retreats to the neutral corner, whilst repairs are

:19:29. > :19:35.carried out on Mandeep Jangra's footwear.

:19:36. > :19:43.That is good timing from Fitzgerald and what he must get right. But he

:19:44. > :19:53.does tend to jump in, gets caught! Lovely stuff!

:19:54. > :19:59.We said that Fitzgerald possesses quite a punch. Jangra, he just

:20:00. > :20:12.experienced it first hand. quite a punch. Jangra, he just

:20:13. > :20:18.another jolting left hand! Pinning his man to the ropes. Working the

:20:19. > :20:29.body. Good work, but the cot has opened

:20:30. > :20:37.up. -- cut. He sustained his second contest. He

:20:38. > :20:43.has been fighting with it ever since. It has opened up in the first

:20:44. > :20:47.round. He said it did not bother him when it opened up in previous fights

:20:48. > :21:02.but his corner will really have their work cut out to stem the flow

:21:03. > :21:07.of lob. Blood. What an opening round for the English man. But that is a

:21:08. > :21:26.bad cut. Timing is the key for Fitzgerald as

:21:27. > :21:30.his opponent comes forward. He missed with his own shot and then

:21:31. > :21:43.got caught with a superb left book. Cracking punch. -- left hook. Almost

:21:44. > :21:44.paid the price of being knocked out. That is the head clash which may

:21:45. > :22:05.have opened up the cut. The opening round was undoubtedly a

:22:06. > :22:09.dominant one for Scott Fitzgerald. But what we have seen June the

:22:10. > :22:13.course of these Commonwealth Games is that a knock-down does not

:22:14. > :22:19.necessarily mean 10-8, as it would be in the professional ranks, in

:22:20. > :22:26.favour of the fighter who scored it. He comes out using his left jab to

:22:27. > :22:35.to refit effectiveness. -- terrific. Left jab again. He is

:22:36. > :22:43.working that most fundamental of punches wonderfully at the beginning

:22:44. > :22:55.of this second round. Yes, if Jangra Johnson, shorten the shot, but just

:22:56. > :23:04.keep to your basic boxing. -- jumps in.

:23:05. > :23:16.Again, stepping in with that jab. In stark contrast to Jangra, whose

:23:17. > :23:27.punch tend to be more of a snaking variety. And he buckled over. He

:23:28. > :23:34.complained that was low. And what a right hand! Sent to the canvas for

:23:35. > :23:43.the second time in the contest. Fitzgerald is proving to be a

:23:44. > :23:56.terrific finisher. He has Jangra in trouble, and rubber legs.

:23:57. > :24:00.There is another right hand. The referee gives another standing

:24:01. > :24:06.count. It is the third we have seen for

:24:07. > :24:14.Mandeep Jangra, this time of the standing variety. Right hand once

:24:15. > :24:24.more. Everything landing from Fitzgerald now. Jolting left hand

:24:25. > :24:28.once again. Jangra, trying to get his fight back together. But it

:24:29. > :24:39.appears to be an increasingly forlorn endeavour. Less than 30

:24:40. > :24:44.seconds in this round. Another dominant session for Fitzgerald in

:24:45. > :24:49.this welterweight final. And what is impressive is he is just

:24:50. > :24:54.getting back to basics and not getting excited about the situation.

:24:55. > :25:00.He has clearly won this round again. A great display.

:25:01. > :25:07.That was no knock-down, says the referee, but the bell sounds, and it

:25:08. > :25:16.is not a moment too soon for Mandeep Jangra.

:25:17. > :25:20.They will be pleased in that corner. This is all about timing, what a

:25:21. > :25:29.super shot. Right hand, over the top, Jangra coming forward with that

:25:30. > :25:37.low left hand, and Fitzgerald kept it nice, plain and simple. Great

:25:38. > :25:45.fighting from him. Jangra, missing the target, paying the price, and

:25:46. > :25:51.let's look at the scores, that will do.

:25:52. > :26:02.Scott Fitzgerald in complete control of this welterweight final. We move

:26:03. > :26:08.into the third round. Scott Fitzgerald, in red, he has been the

:26:09. > :26:20.master of the man in blue, representing India, Mandeep Jangra.

:26:21. > :26:25.He put him on the floor twice. Then Jangra had to take a standing count

:26:26. > :26:30.after getting into trouble again. Now, Fitzgerald just looking to

:26:31. > :26:35.fight in the manner he has done up till this point. And that is what

:26:36. > :26:39.has been impressive, he has not been loading up, all of the power has

:26:40. > :26:47.come from within his flow, and that has been too much for Jangra to

:26:48. > :26:53.withstand at this point. The timing of that right hand was

:26:54. > :26:57.perfect from Fitzgerald. Steadying himself with the jab, just waiting

:26:58. > :27:03.on the attacks, coming forward with low hands. You cannot afford to make

:27:04. > :27:09.those type of mistakes at this level.

:27:10. > :27:17.Jangra, trying to retreat away from trouble. Fitzgerald fought his place

:27:18. > :27:28.in the England team for these Commonwealth Games had gone after he

:27:29. > :27:36.lost in regional qualifiers, thought he was going to miss out on

:27:37. > :27:39.selection, but fought very well at a multi-Nations tournament in

:27:40. > :27:45.Lithuania, impressing the selectors. He made it through the back door,

:27:46. > :27:49.and how well he has what, as he lands another crushing overhead

:27:50. > :27:57.right. A jab, jolting the Indian fighter backwards.

:27:58. > :28:05.Jangra, throwing shorts from all over the place but his accuracy is

:28:06. > :28:11.awful. -- shots. Fitzgerald, still well in control.

:28:12. > :28:39.A beautiful corkscrew right over the top. Perhaps the reflex -- reflexes

:28:40. > :28:44.of Jangra have been dulled, he is going to have to produce a knockout

:28:45. > :28:50.punch if you want to claim top spot on the podium. Fitzgerald remains

:28:51. > :28:59.poised and using the jab to terrific effect. His left book, just shot of

:29:00. > :29:05.the target. They end the contest at close quarters. At the final bell,

:29:06. > :29:10.little doubt that 22 old Scott Fitzgerald, from Preston, he will

:29:11. > :29:21.occupy top spot on the medal rostrum. The cut did not play a

:29:22. > :29:34.significant role in the outcome. He remained focused on the task at

:29:35. > :29:41.hand. Surely he is on the way to being crowned gold-medallist here in

:29:42. > :29:46.Glasgow. His straight hand work was lovely, there is a little left hook

:29:47. > :29:50.to the body. Superb timing. Right hand especially but for me, that jab

:29:51. > :29:56.was crucial, it hit the target almost every time. Measuring that

:29:57. > :30:12.distance and gap. Tremendous. ANNOUNCER: Ladies and gentlemen, we

:30:13. > :30:19.have the judges's results, all are in agreement with a unanimous

:30:20. > :30:23.decision. The Commonwealth Games men's welterweight champion, in the

:30:24. > :30:32.red corner, representing England, Scott Fitzgerald! , Tait Scott

:30:33. > :30:38.Fitzgerald does a little dance around the boxing ring. He has just

:30:39. > :30:47.been crowned the Commonwealth Games champion, 2014. A wonderful display

:30:48. > :30:52.of boxing. The jab was a thing of beauty during the course of that

:30:53. > :30:57.contest, it was a power jab. Powerful punches from both the left

:30:58. > :31:07.and the right, all in all, it was too much for Mandeep Jangra. He has

:31:08. > :31:12.had a terrific tournament. Scott Fitzgerald using punches straight

:31:13. > :31:21.and true and conventional, have been more than a match for Mandeep

:31:22. > :31:25.Jangra. Scott Fitzgerald will occupy top spot, the gold medal position in

:31:26. > :31:30.the welterweight tournament. Handshakes all around. His dad,

:31:31. > :31:38.Dave, and his coach, will be absolutely delighted. He has boxed

:31:39. > :31:47.superbly to earn himself a Commonwealth Games gold medal.

:31:48. > :31:54.How impressed were you? Very impressive. He has power and speed.

:31:55. > :32:02.He nearly got the knockout punch. Great performance. Congratulations,

:32:03. > :32:06.Commonwealth champion! I cannot believe it. Coming here eight weeks

:32:07. > :32:09.ago, I just wanted to win at least a fight and I have come here and won

:32:10. > :32:18.the competition. I cannot believe it. In the heat of the battle, I

:32:19. > :32:22.know, but take us back a few weeks when you lost in regional

:32:23. > :32:25.qualifying, you must have thought your Commonwealth Games were over? I

:32:26. > :32:36.thought there was no chance of me getting picked. I had a good

:32:37. > :32:39.competition in Lithuania. A lot of people thought I should not have

:32:40. > :32:44.been picked and I have won the gold, I am really made up. I was very

:32:45. > :32:53.impressed. It was a great performance. You put him down, did

:32:54. > :33:02.it give you extra confidence? I knew he was ranked pretty high in the

:33:03. > :33:08.world. I was focused. I knew I had hit him with my shots. It really

:33:09. > :33:12.gave me confidence. Somebody will put something else round your neck

:33:13. > :33:18.in half an hour's time, will that be the best moment of your life? Just

:33:19. > :33:23.being here has been the best experience of my life and getting

:33:24. > :33:27.the gold, it is another level. It is well deserved and you have been

:33:28. > :33:34.great to watch all week. Congratulations. We have got Tom

:33:35. > :33:36.Daley and Usain Bolt as attractions elsewhere and Anthony Fowler and Joe

:33:37. > :33:47.Joyce coming up later. Thanks to John Inverdale and Amir

:33:48. > :33:54.Khan. Congratulations to Scott Fitzgerald. A bit more boxing on BBC

:33:55. > :34:00.Three tonight. If you would continue to watch the boxing, you can press

:34:01. > :34:02.your red button now. As for here, it is that time of night and we are

:34:03. > :34:18.going diving. I still get terrified, every single

:34:19. > :34:25.time. Ten metres is a long way down. You know you are going to hit the

:34:26. > :34:32.water at 34 mph. So you cannot think about the things that could happen.

:34:33. > :34:38.It is all about confronting fear. Peak physical condition just is not

:34:39. > :34:39.enough. You have to gain mental strength. You only game that when

:34:40. > :34:52.things go wrong. You keep pushing through. You do not

:34:53. > :35:01.hear any noise. You hear your feet on the board and nothing else.

:35:02. > :35:13.In life, sometimes, you need fear so you can face it.

:35:14. > :35:31.And every single time I dive, I feel completely alive.

:35:32. > :35:37.We are leaving the BBC studio in Glasgow to head straight to

:35:38. > :35:43.Edinburgh. It is the final of the ten-metre platform. Watching the

:35:44. > :35:50.action, all above her, is Helen Skelton.

:35:51. > :35:55.You have come to me as I have to be as quiet as a mouse in this electric

:35:56. > :36:01.atmosphere. We are waiting for Dominic to do his ten-metre platform

:36:02. > :36:07.dive. The atmosphere is electric, you will hear it erupt in a moment,

:36:08. > :36:11.partly because Tom Daley is in the building and there are two other

:36:12. > :36:21.English divers here, the first was Matthew Dixon. Brace yourselves, he

:36:22. > :36:26.is so cute! He is an absolute baby faced assassin. 14 years old, he

:36:27. > :36:31.died in Plymouth. This was his first dive, one of the more difficult

:36:32. > :36:37.ones, and the crowd absolutely love him. Inevitable comparisons between

:36:38. > :36:43.him and Tom Daley. He is off to a good start. We are almost at the

:36:44. > :36:50.turn of James Denny and then we get to Tom Daley. A lot of people have

:36:51. > :36:58.come to see him. That great rivalry continuing.

:36:59. > :37:03.Looking forward to two more English divers to come. James Denny and Tom

:37:04. > :37:19.Daley who will go last. Just letting the dive run away, the

:37:20. > :37:26.take-off was good. Possibly just a bit more forward momentum. This

:37:27. > :37:29.could make controlling the dive a bit more challenging. Just rolling

:37:30. > :37:34.over there, a little bit of splash being thrown up. Relatively low

:37:35. > :37:37.degree of difficulty compared to some of the dies in his repertoire.

:37:38. > :37:50.He is a little bit off the pace. James Denny, second of the English

:37:51. > :38:05.men. That is the silver-medallist of the

:38:06. > :38:11.British Championships on the platform.

:38:12. > :38:19.In which three and a half somersaults with dark will stop --

:38:20. > :38:30.three and a half somersaults with a tuck.

:38:31. > :38:33.It is a good start from James Denny, really clean on the

:38:34. > :38:41.It is a good start from James Denny, little short as he goes in, he does

:38:42. > :38:44.not quite to straighten out enough. He has a good look at the water

:38:45. > :38:50.not quite to straighten out enough. he has his backside stuck out a

:38:51. > :38:52.little as he goes in. If he had straightened out completely, he

:38:53. > :39:10.would be getting eight, maybe even more. We have James Denny, Tom Daley

:39:11. > :39:26.and Matthew Dixon, three D Shaul. -- three D s.

:39:27. > :39:35.This dive that has not quite put in the performance yet to suggest he is

:39:36. > :39:48.a medallist. He dived very well this morning. He is middle of the pack.

:39:49. > :39:53.Diving in reverse order. This is actually a relatively easy twist

:39:54. > :40:06.compared to what you will see others try. It has worked out OK for him.

:40:07. > :40:13.The marks we wait for, the judges are either indecisive... We cannot

:40:14. > :40:19.bring you what he has got just yet. It will be appearing on your

:40:20. > :40:27.screen... They will have to re-import the scores.

:40:28. > :40:41.I did have a question as to why all of the marks did not count. It is

:40:42. > :40:49.about finding the average. Seven judges. Taking into account the

:40:50. > :40:58.degree of difficulty. As easy as that!

:40:59. > :41:10.Very impressive. These young Canadians, this diver is 17 years

:41:11. > :41:18.old, a great future in front of him, this is the easiest dive. Steady

:41:19. > :41:26.style. Six dives, six consistently good guides. Let's see how this

:41:27. > :41:34.young man gets on. -- six consistently good dives. He has just

:41:35. > :41:50.come out of the world juniors. Bouchard has been persuaded to come

:41:51. > :42:00.back. There is some metal in that body. There will be different

:42:01. > :42:02.variances. Some people like to do this with a towel, some people do

:42:03. > :42:39.not. little bit of a wobble in the

:42:40. > :42:45.handstand balance. As he exits the dive he thinks she is lower to the

:42:46. > :42:53.water, but it is a mistake, and he over rotates. Not a disaster, but

:42:54. > :43:14.not as strong as I have seen from him in training.

:43:15. > :43:29.He is behind Bedggood, Riendeau, and Denny. A little chat with the

:43:30. > :43:41.Canadian coach about something. Let's wait and see. We don't have

:43:42. > :43:51.any microphone stand there. But there was a discussion. No idea what

:43:52. > :43:57.was discussed. To make a protest you need to do so right away. We will

:43:58. > :44:17.find out afterwards. Now, the competition really starts. The head

:44:18. > :44:25.to head. Mitchum versus Daley. There you go! The pressure beginning to

:44:26. > :44:33.tell. Did the delay: Send to lose concentration? Because that was a

:44:34. > :44:38.mistake. His easiest dive and he fluffed it. You cannot start your

:44:39. > :44:55.campaign like that when you are taking on Tom Daley.

:44:56. > :45:10.Already ground to make up for the gold-medallist Beijing 2008. So, Tom

:45:11. > :45:20.Daley, and stand to start. When he performed this dive in the

:45:21. > :45:37.preliminaries this morning, 75.30. Just to give you a little heads up.

:45:38. > :45:47.Welcome to the men's ten metres platform final, that was the

:45:48. > :45:55.defending champion, his first dive, and he will get nines and tens. He

:45:56. > :46:07.has capitalised on Mitcham leaving the door open. Beautiful dive, game

:46:08. > :46:15.on. 94.5, compared with 73.5. What a

:46:16. > :46:24.massive swing. 44 points on one dive. And there it is. You do not

:46:25. > :46:43.even see Mitcham in the frame, he is on page two. Everybody wants to get

:46:44. > :46:55.a snapshot of Tom Daley, so the crowd just been told to turn those

:46:56. > :47:01.flashes off. Some concern for this young man, we saw him in training

:47:02. > :47:09.and he was not getting anything right. Let's hope he gets through

:47:10. > :47:28.this unscathed. This is his big dive of the programme.

:47:29. > :47:34.components were there, the take-off was good enough, and extension from

:47:35. > :47:38.the lakes, a safe distance from the diving board, just is not quite

:47:39. > :47:47.confident enough to straighten out quickly. A little bit loose and

:47:48. > :47:53.soft, therefore will not get more than the marks coming up. 5.5 is

:47:54. > :48:05.about right, but with confidence, he could get seven.

:48:06. > :48:09.In training he seemed to be doing too much thinking and his dives

:48:10. > :48:22.suffered because of it. 14-year-old, Matt Dixon. Now stepping up to the

:48:23. > :48:24.senior ranks. To keep up with the others this needs to be very good,

:48:25. > :48:39.for the young man. A tremendous entry into the water,

:48:40. > :48:48.just a little bit untidy as he gets in. The jump is good, 14 years old,

:48:49. > :48:55.sports the water, kicks out, just tips his feet over, he got 8.5

:48:56. > :49:02.earlier, I think this will only get 7.5, just a little bit of a wobble

:49:03. > :49:22.on the way in. All right, the middle in terms of

:49:23. > :49:24.marks. Yiwei, prefers a different stance to

:49:25. > :49:36.the one used by Tom Daley. 3.2 Yiwei, prefers a different stance to

:49:37. > :49:45.degree of difficulty. He is in fourth place.

:49:46. > :49:57.Nice, from Yiwei. Sometimes struggles with his form. Aseptically

:49:58. > :50:20.pleasing movements, look pretty, impress the judges. --

:50:21. > :50:23.aesthetically. We discount the top and bottom

:50:24. > :50:36.scores and just include the middle three. Still plenty to go. His lead

:50:37. > :50:49.will not last for long. Will he be overtaken on this dive? Although,

:50:50. > :50:56.after a good start this morning, Bedggood slowed down. The first

:50:57. > :51:03.Australian we will see, Mitcham being the other.

:51:04. > :51:10.Yes, not very good this morning, that was better, but can still be

:51:11. > :51:13.improved. Completes the dive very easily but is just not quite

:51:14. > :51:27.straighten his body out in the end, if you did so, he could get as high

:51:28. > :51:33.as nine. Looking to try to add to his collection. But not probably at

:51:34. > :51:58.the moment, and platform, will he be in the top three shake-up.

:51:59. > :52:09.This is a miniscule, in comparison, 3.2 for Li of New Zealand.

:52:10. > :52:14.What can still go wrong, he fights out of that very early, but feels as

:52:15. > :52:21.though he is stock, so just rolls over. He will not get eight, just

:52:22. > :52:30.seven. 7.2. Those of you who have been with

:52:31. > :52:36.us all week probably think, we know this now, but it is the degree of

:52:37. > :52:48.difficulty multiplied by the scores that count. We have seen Tom Daley,

:52:49. > :52:54.we will now see James Denny. Handstand somersault. Took a medal

:52:55. > :53:20.in the platform synchro last night. It is good. It is good all the way

:53:21. > :53:28.until the entry. Steady balance, flicking the legs, squeezing into

:53:29. > :53:32.the top shape, then just allowing his feet to tip over with him,

:53:33. > :53:39.giving the impression the dive is going over. Just needs to extend a

:53:40. > :53:47.little more, stay vertical, a minor error. His coach, Adrian

:53:48. > :54:00.Hinchcliffe, from the Leeds diving club.

:54:01. > :54:06.Yiwei, just ahead of him, he will have his eye on a bronze medal and

:54:07. > :54:20.will not see Tom Daley or Mitcham as invincible.

:54:21. > :54:38.Most mere mortals find this quite a tricky thing to watch.

:54:39. > :54:45.Leaving the dive marginally shot of vertical there as he enters the

:54:46. > :54:48.water. It is great when you get the camera to zoom in and see the

:54:49. > :55:01.concentration and effort that goes in. Only going to get 6.5. Will that

:55:02. > :55:09.be good enough to stay in contention for medals?

:55:10. > :55:15.Not likely. He is third right now but it could easily be six or seven

:55:16. > :55:22.by the end of this round. There will be lots of fluctuations in position.

:55:23. > :55:29.An impressive start for this man. Definitely a start of the diving.

:55:30. > :55:46.Riley McCormac has retired. This, a new staff. -- star. The heir

:55:47. > :55:53.apparent. Off he goes, and down he goes,

:55:54. > :56:05.really tidy. Good, strong push off the hands. He does lose his feet,

:56:06. > :56:12.marginally, they kind of flutter, the judges might penalised that. One

:56:13. > :56:30.judge has. The others either ignoring it or missed it.

:56:31. > :56:37.I like a flutter, but I never win! Bouchard, happy to be with us after

:56:38. > :56:45.the problems she has gone through. A clean, vertical entry into the

:56:46. > :56:59.water. He will be in the mix for the bronze. That will much him over 70

:57:00. > :57:15.points. -- nudge. The 8.5 is discarded, only three marks will add

:57:16. > :57:26.up. This was a 75.6 this morning for Matthew Mitcham, there has been a 23

:57:27. > :57:32.point swing against him. A big margin to make up already. On his

:57:33. > :57:46.handstand back double somersault 2.5 twists. A nine might take him into

:57:47. > :57:51.the lead. Not likely... Or is it? Beautiful balance. He cranked the

:57:52. > :57:58.start a little bit too much, gave its too much means, and could not

:57:59. > :58:07.stop the rotation. You have so many twists to do and it is easy to over

:58:08. > :58:17.rotate. That is exactly what Mitcham has done. This could prove to be

:58:18. > :58:29.critical. His mixed dive is crucial. -- next. He would describe it as his

:58:30. > :58:47.bogey dive. He is composing himself, he takes a

:58:48. > :59:04.long time over this. It is better than this morning. He

:59:05. > :59:09.still struggled with it, but it is a step in the right direction. It is a

:59:10. > :59:17.step in the right direction but it is not as good as he did in Mexico.

:59:18. > :59:20.The judges will give him six is. He needs and 11-metre platform, if you

:59:21. > :59:27.are going to take off like that, you need to extend the legs. He is not

:59:28. > :59:32.quite as relaxed as he needs to be. He is watching the replay, the

:59:33. > :59:40.judges do not see the replay. If you want the gold, Tom, it is yours to

:59:41. > :00:00.take. This is a massive swing for him. Daly leading.

:00:01. > :00:08.This diver takes longer over this dive as does -- van Rafa Nadal does

:00:09. > :00:47.over a service! According to my timekeeper, 28

:00:48. > :00:54.seconds thinking about it! Only 1.5 seconds to complete the dive. This

:00:55. > :01:00.is very good from him. In training, he was every which way but upright

:01:01. > :01:04.but the time when it counts, in the competition, he has nailed it. The

:01:05. > :01:13.man from India land upright, vertical. This morning, it did not

:01:14. > :01:18.work from him. The length of time he was cogitating. But that worked all

:01:19. > :01:25.right. He will not be in the top ten the way things are looking. A huge

:01:26. > :01:30.cheer for this young man who really does seem to be relishing a chance

:01:31. > :01:37.of performing in front of this audience. 14 years of age from

:01:38. > :01:44.Plymouth. Bronze at the European juniors. He was very close to 400

:01:45. > :01:53.marks at the British Championships. Former gymnast, now diver. You can

:01:54. > :02:06.see the strapping on his arm. It is a great take-off, so composed

:02:07. > :02:12.and balanced. Beautiful handstand, you could see his gymnastics

:02:13. > :02:17.background. Gymnasts at home will see what is needed to get that

:02:18. > :02:23.forward rotation without having a springboard and a vault to get. He

:02:24. > :02:31.cranks it a little bit too much and over he goes. For the time being, he

:02:32. > :02:33.goes into the lead but he is only the second one up so it will not

:02:34. > :02:49.last for long. A brilliant experience for him. This

:02:50. > :02:56.diver from Malaysia is in third place at the moment. This one will

:02:57. > :03:08.be performed in the tuck position. This is a back three and a half

:03:09. > :03:29.somersaults. What a mess, what a shame. Faltering

:03:30. > :03:33.as he went into the water. Drifting too far away from the diving board

:03:34. > :03:38.which means that when you come out of the dive, it is difficult to

:03:39. > :03:43.control and over he goes. That is our second or third surfboard moment

:03:44. > :03:49.of this competition. Tidal wave in coming. Splashing away from the

:03:50. > :04:03.diving board. Judge three was Simon Cowell! Judge two saw it in

:04:04. > :04:16.completely a different way. Dominic Bedggood.

:04:17. > :04:27.Dominic Bedggood currently in second place. Back three and a half

:04:28. > :04:37.somersaults with a tart and at the moment he is pushing pressure on Tom

:04:38. > :04:41.Daley. That is exactly the same, he went surfing on the bottom. Way

:04:42. > :04:46.over. Just shows you how difficult these guys are. This is the time you

:04:47. > :05:02.need to get your surfboard out, there is the wave. Live as a wave,

:05:03. > :05:09.he just did! -- give us a wave. He will have a big reparation job to do

:05:10. > :05:16.after that. That will stand him way down the pegging. Could easily go

:05:17. > :05:49.from second into seventh place now. That is good. That is how you do

:05:50. > :05:54.it! He has disappeared with that entry. Just got his boots on, his

:05:55. > :06:08.feet are flat. He eventually points his toes. Much better, the best of

:06:09. > :06:13.the back three and a half s. Even at this stage, the medals are

:06:14. > :06:21.definitely up for grabs. Tom Daley needs to keep the consistency going.

:06:22. > :06:25.A silver and bronze knocked out of the range of anybody in the top

:06:26. > :06:32.order at the moment. Including this young man, James Denny. A slightly

:06:33. > :06:53.different form of the dive we have seen. A tuck to a pike.

:06:54. > :07:11.That is one of the dives him and Tom used in the synchronised dives last

:07:12. > :07:15.night. He is landing pretty much on the backs of his legs. This is such

:07:16. > :07:20.a difficult dive and when it goes wrong, it can go drastically wrong.

:07:21. > :07:30.He will drop down the leaderboard with that one. Most of the divers

:07:31. > :07:35.are having problems with that dive. More and more, it is looking as if

:07:36. > :07:40.they will not be as much pressure as we thought on Tom Daley. This diver

:07:41. > :07:59.had a poor second round dive. That is back on track. Very good

:08:00. > :08:04.from him. His easiest dive. Such a strong athlete, leaps off the diving

:08:05. > :08:10.board, just rolling into the water. He will get eight on that, that will

:08:11. > :08:20.help him. He will be top of the leaderboard for the time being.

:08:21. > :08:25.The main movers and shakers are about to perform. The halfway stage

:08:26. > :08:55.is approaching. He has taken it on. The Canadians,

:08:56. > :09:03.both of them, another one to follow shortly. Good dives, this one in

:09:04. > :09:09.particular. It is tricky, 3.4. Anything above 70 points is good, 75

:09:10. > :09:14.points, even better. Up into the higher echelons, we go. I would not

:09:15. > :09:18.be surprised if this man is not on the podium later. He started with

:09:19. > :09:21.great confidence and with a great attitude. It might be a battle

:09:22. > :09:33.between the Canadians for medals here. Or it might not be Matt

:09:34. > :09:40.Mitcham's night. Bouchard is not too far shy of a top three finish. With

:09:41. > :09:49.everybody else faltering, it is time for him to step up.

:09:50. > :10:21.It is an unusual technique, he is balancing on his tiptoes and

:10:22. > :10:28.standing forwards. That is highly unusual. He took ages to go as well.

:10:29. > :10:34.It is not as good as his team-mate's dive. He will be a bit

:10:35. > :10:36.further away from where he was on his previous round. That will only

:10:37. > :10:59.get 5.5 s. Round three, this morning, was a

:11:00. > :11:03.very good dive for Matt Mitcham, his best dive of the competition. A very

:11:04. > :11:14.good dive for Matt Mitcham, his best dive of the competition. It is a

:11:15. > :11:21.good dive for Mitcham. Managing to keep the splashdown. It is the rip

:11:22. > :11:29.entry we are looking for. He will only get 8.5 maybe, he needed to be

:11:30. > :11:33.completely rolled up to be 9.5 or ten which is what he would need to

:11:34. > :11:38.put pressure on Tom Daley. This is a big dive though, 85 points plus. He

:11:39. > :11:43.got a 450 total this morning. Joy big dive though, 85 points plus. He

:11:44. > :11:46.and delight for Matt Mitcham. He has come close to any late in what he

:11:47. > :11:52.did this morning but he has not quite done it. A couple of points

:11:53. > :11:55.down on that dive from the prelims. Putting him into second place for

:11:56. > :12:10.now which in effect will probably be third place after this.

:12:11. > :12:13.A big reception for a big dive. His weakest dive though, it does not

:12:14. > :12:16.always translate into how it looks in execution. We will know any

:12:17. > :12:33.moment now. He just missed it slightly. He has

:12:34. > :12:38.been working so hard on this. A really good, strong start, trust

:12:39. > :12:45.rolling over as he goes into the water. We'll get 8.5, probably not

:12:46. > :12:53.good enough for nine. But he will be over 80 points. He knows in his head

:12:54. > :13:01.how that compares with this morning. Not that favourably. First time on

:13:02. > :13:10.his evening performance that he is down on marks, but only marginally.

:13:11. > :13:17.Mitcham, he has woken up and arrived at the party now, in third place.

:13:18. > :13:27.James Denny in eighth, Matt Dixon, 10th. We have reached halfway and it

:13:28. > :13:30.is looking good for Tom Daley. A gap between him and the rest right now

:13:31. > :13:36.but we are only halfway as I mentioned. Some big dive is still to

:13:37. > :13:52.come. he take over this one? Still not

:13:53. > :14:27.quite ready to go. Karen Pickering summed it up her

:14:28. > :14:36.figure, -- perfectly. When you do not get anywhere near upright, that

:14:37. > :15:02.really does hurt. She has just had the wrath of the water.

:15:03. > :15:07.Let's hope Matt Dixon was not to put off by that. Making his senior debut

:15:08. > :15:39.at the Commonwealth Games. What a dive from the 14-year-old

:15:40. > :15:48.from Plymouth! Absolutely smashed it! That is what he is capable of!

:15:49. > :15:56.Someone big scores coming his way! Good work, Matt Dixon. Physically he

:15:57. > :16:08.might look out of place, but those marks are not. 81.6. Oh my. I did

:16:09. > :16:12.say he would not finish bottom, but he may be a good few places above

:16:13. > :16:19.it, that is sensational and just shows the promise. The coaches have

:16:20. > :16:26.worked so hard with him, a great little programme.

:16:27. > :16:53.3.2, for the Malaysian. That is better from him. Not as good

:16:54. > :17:03.as Matt Dixon, but not far off. A strong take-off. Just using a towel,

:17:04. > :17:27.that is a comfort thing, some of the divers prefer the grip of a towel

:17:28. > :17:40.believe them -- beneath. This man could still be in the

:17:41. > :17:54.shake-up. Dominic Bedggood. 60 will put him above Yiwei.

:17:55. > :18:01.It is better from Bedggood. It went awry in the preliminaries. Just

:18:02. > :18:16.needs to look back a little bit more. Marginally behind as he

:18:17. > :18:24.enters. Where will that put him? 76.5, total marks, for the time

:18:25. > :18:26.being, although the lead keeps changing hands as divers each get

:18:27. > :18:40.their noses in front of the opposition. Several divers to go.

:18:41. > :18:48.After Li, James Denny will be performing. He can go crashing

:18:49. > :18:54.through the 200 barrier, currently in fifth place.

:18:55. > :19:01.through the 200 barrier, currently three place.

:19:02. > :19:07.That just goes to show how difficult these dives are. You need to jump

:19:08. > :19:14.away from the board, spin backwards towards it, he just squeezes his

:19:15. > :19:20.shape and comes out of the dive too early, landing flat on his back.

:19:21. > :19:25.What a shame. His chances of a medal, which

:19:26. > :19:33.previously looked very good, may have just evaporated. The Chinese

:19:34. > :19:44.diver, retired, came back, coaching in Wellington. Decided retirement

:19:45. > :19:52.was not for him. No question but for this man, 20 years of age. About the

:19:53. > :19:58.same age as Tom Daley but we have not seen anything like as much as

:19:59. > :20:06.James Denny. In the sink row with Tom last night, he appears in the

:20:07. > :20:12.individual. -- synchro. Can he improve on what we have just seen

:20:13. > :20:22.from Li? Yes he can. That is much better. He

:20:23. > :20:26.has been working hard up in Leeds at the high-performance diving centre.

:20:27. > :20:33.Does not need to be that far away, tricky to control, but he does a

:20:34. > :20:41.good job. Much better than this morning and in the synchro

:20:42. > :20:47.competition last night. Progress. Maybe not wear his coach

:20:48. > :20:59.wants him to be, but the score means she is above a few, including Li

:21:00. > :21:06.now. Some divers are faltering at the moment. Not getting their top

:21:07. > :21:20.scores. He is in range for a medal having already got the three-metre.

:21:21. > :21:25.This is his back 3.5. Heading towards 300 points if he gets it

:21:26. > :21:32.right. And he does! I thought he was too

:21:33. > :21:37.early, but he knew exactly where he was, good aerial awareness. Do you

:21:38. > :21:43.know where you are when falling to the earth, spinning around, at

:21:44. > :21:52.breakneck speed? Yes, is the answer, if you are Lang! Getting feedback

:21:53. > :21:57.from his coach, also an exceptional diver in his day, used to compete

:21:58. > :22:08.against me, although he was a bit slimmer than!

:22:09. > :22:14.Not as handsome, obviously. I have never rendered you speechless

:22:15. > :22:24.before! Now the young Canadian, 17 years of age. Has been diving in the

:22:25. > :22:33.Canadian programme for 12 years. It is a good diver. Just a little bit

:22:34. > :22:39.of splash, could not keep it down, it looked as though he was going to

:22:40. > :22:44.disappear, then just a little bit of splash being thrown up. It will

:22:45. > :22:54.still get eight and that is keeping his campaign for a medal alive.

:22:55. > :22:58.I like his consistency and attitude and the way he is performing

:22:59. > :23:15.tonight. Excellent dive, eight across the board, takes a -- him

:23:16. > :23:27.above Lang. He cannot be overtaken by Bouchard at this stage. Although

:23:28. > :23:33.we might see some tens. Tom Daley will have something to say about

:23:34. > :23:40.that when he steps up shortly. That is good, a little bit soft going

:23:41. > :23:52.into the water, but looking to pick up on a slightly faltering dive in

:23:53. > :24:08.the previous round. That will help. Make your calculations. 7.5 and

:24:09. > :24:16.eight, counting towards his total. Mitchum, this morning, 67.2, his

:24:17. > :24:21.second lowest score. This is where it can start to swing. At one stage

:24:22. > :24:39.during the preliminary Tom Daley was last. The 2008 Olympic champion.

:24:40. > :24:48.He is not having a good contest at all. This is a very weak from the

:24:49. > :24:54.2008 Olympic champion. He just is not finding his groove. He will be

:24:55. > :25:01.battling to hold onto potential silver here. Nobody smiling, nobody

:25:02. > :25:10.happy, that is more of a forced smile.

:25:11. > :25:22.That chasm between him and Tom Daley opening up fast. But, what, we talk

:25:23. > :25:29.about the big one, this is the one which this morning he sent into the

:25:30. > :25:36.stratosphere. 101.75. Twice she went over 100. We wait for the roof to

:25:37. > :26:00.come off this listed will do. Four and a half somersaults with a tuck.

:26:01. > :26:05.Not as good as this morning but still over 80 points. There is no

:26:06. > :26:14.real competition going on at the moment, Tom is way out in front. A

:26:15. > :26:23.bit like the preliminaries of three metres with Jack Lawless, Tom is now

:26:24. > :26:30.miles ahead of anybody else. Nearly 30 separating him and second place.

:26:31. > :26:41.Mitchum just holding on to the coat-tails of the medals. James

:26:42. > :26:48.Denny in eighth, Dixon in the ninth. Looking good for Tom Daley, very

:26:49. > :27:04.good indeed. But not there yet with that gold medal. We could still see

:27:05. > :27:10.a big dive from Mitchum. First, Pardeshi, forward to half

:27:11. > :27:16.somersaults, with twist. That is the best we have seen from

:27:17. > :27:24.him. Sometimes has a bit of trouble with his twist. But this one, well,

:27:25. > :27:35.his feet and quite pointed, crossed over a little bit. -- are not

:27:36. > :27:43.quite. Rough around the edges. He is saying he is in a bit of pain.

:27:44. > :27:48.I am not in the least bit surprised given what he put himself through

:27:49. > :27:52.this morning. He just kept on that ten metre board until he got it

:27:53. > :28:00.right. No surprise his body is beginning to break down a little

:28:01. > :28:02.bit. Fifth Round 5. Matt Dixon has acquitted himself very well indeed,

:28:03. > :28:31.the 14-year-old from Plymouth. It is a big dive for him, 3.3.

:28:32. > :28:38.Swinging the arms above the head, looking at where you have been, not

:28:39. > :28:42.where you are going. Throwing a bit of splash up, but still, that is

:28:43. > :28:49.probably better than he did this morning. That will be 6.5 s. Good

:28:50. > :29:04.work indeed. So many from Delhi have come back

:29:05. > :29:22.and improved on their performances, four years on. Three, four, five and

:29:23. > :29:28.six are very tightly bunched. This is 3.4, reverse, three and a half

:29:29. > :29:38.somersaults with a tart. -- with a tuck.

:29:39. > :29:47.Oh my goodness, that is like being smacked around the back of the head

:29:48. > :29:53.by a baseball bat. Ouch. It is all OK until now. He does not quite get

:29:54. > :30:02.his hands... Just collapses into the water. I had four reconstructive

:30:03. > :30:11.shoulder operations during my career. His body folded up like one

:30:12. > :30:15.of your deckchairs. Half of his body met the other half of his body going

:30:16. > :30:20.in there. If you people at home will have recoiled. It is like watching

:30:21. > :30:28.Doctor Who, and hiding behind the sofa. Dominic Bedggood of Australia,

:30:29. > :30:37.who wants to get into these medal positions. We cannot assume Tom

:30:38. > :30:48.Daley has won it just yet. Bedggood is fifth. This is the big one. That

:30:49. > :30:54.is good from Bedggood. That is OK. A little bit of splash being thrown

:30:55. > :31:01.out. He needs to squeeze into his tuck shaped a little bit more. He is

:31:02. > :31:09.a little bit scrappy. It is 3.7 so it is worth a lot. Mathematically,

:31:10. > :31:18.the scores multiplied, depending on the degree of difficulty. I bet you

:31:19. > :31:22.are thinking at home, it looks really good but the splashback gives

:31:23. > :31:30.it away a little bit. But he does go into the lead.

:31:31. > :31:43.Our runaway leader at the moment, Tom Daley, to come. We have not seen

:31:44. > :31:49.one of these for a while. He is off. Lowe he is off and he is in and he

:31:50. > :31:54.disappears. Good, strong take-off. One and a half twists, double

:31:55. > :32:01.somersault Andy Goode entry into the water. -- double somersault and a

:32:02. > :32:12.good entry into the water. water. -- double somersault and a

:32:13. > :32:14.not hang around very long! I don't think we will see him on the medal

:32:15. > :32:23.podium later on. Not holding back, the senior English

:32:24. > :32:48.divers here. James Denny has gone for a 3.6.

:32:49. > :32:59.Back, two and a half twists. We have seen this before with Tom Daley.

:33:00. > :33:07.It is good from James Denny. 3.6. Two and a half somersaults, two and

:33:08. > :33:14.a half twists. Good leg extension. Helicopter feet. The judges will

:33:15. > :33:17.came him for that. You have got to keep your legs together and your

:33:18. > :33:31.toes pointed. You cannot be flipping your feet around.

:33:32. > :33:49.The Englishman from Leeds, 20 years of age, the same age as Tom Daley.

:33:50. > :33:56.Liang is profiting from other people around him not doing what they

:33:57. > :34:04.should do. Finding himself in third. But the Canadians will have some

:34:05. > :34:11.thing to say about that. Just, just, just manages to hold onto

:34:12. > :34:17.that. We watched him in training. That is short and vertical but it is

:34:18. > :34:25.tight and good form. That will keep him in contention for a medal.

:34:26. > :34:30.Liang, one dive to go. They have got to get their calculators out, it

:34:31. > :34:37.will get very tight. Those chasing Daley are grouped together very

:34:38. > :34:51.closely. This is an advantage for Liang over Bedggood. Vincent

:34:52. > :34:59.Riendeau. Does that mean "no water"? Or words to that effect, in French?

:35:00. > :35:10.It does not seem quite right for a diver! What is that going to do?

:35:11. > :35:17.Will it help or hinder? It is OK, it is above average, it is a big dive.

:35:18. > :35:23.Max will follow and then Mitcham has downgraded his dive. This will only

:35:24. > :35:31.get seven s which means it will be less than 70 points. Will he bunched

:35:32. > :35:38.up with Liang? I think he will. Yes, precisely what he has done. Two and

:35:39. > :35:49.a half point lead over the Malaysian which is nothing going into the last

:35:50. > :35:57.round. Bouchard. Might just have fallen away from a medal push. If he

:35:58. > :36:08.gets 90, he goes in behind his Canadian colleague. He has done

:36:09. > :36:13.well, just a little bit low on the water, losing it on the take-off,

:36:14. > :36:17.not quite powerful enough, not generating enough spin speed. He

:36:18. > :36:22.needs to get his arms to extend a little bit more through the legs.

:36:23. > :36:27.Just arching as he goes in, it is clean and tidy but he will now drift

:36:28. > :36:36.away from the medal. I think he now has too much to make up. 28 points

:36:37. > :36:44.behind his team-mate. So no medal today for Bouchard. A little heads

:36:45. > :36:46.up on this morning's performance, this was actually Matt Mitcham's

:36:47. > :37:06.worst dive in terms of marks. Much better than it was this

:37:07. > :37:11.morning. Obviously it is a different dive, he is playing safe, I think he

:37:12. > :37:16.has left himself too much to do to challenge Tom for the gold. But he

:37:17. > :37:21.is trying to fight for the silver. Will that getting closer to the

:37:22. > :37:27.Canadian and the Malaysian? It is OK but it is not good enough. I have

:37:28. > :37:31.seen him score straight tens on this dive. He was to ogle to get a medal,

:37:32. > :37:34.that would be a turn up for the books. -- he will struggle to get a

:37:35. > :37:53.medal. The star turn tonight, as so often

:37:54. > :37:57.we have seen him be, the champion from Rome 2009, bronze-medallist for

:37:58. > :38:23.London 2012, Thomas Robert Daly. It is incredible. Hence, tens,

:38:24. > :38:28.tens. Judges you might as well, that was perfect. This is textbook, this

:38:29. > :38:38.is Tom Daley pretty much diving for the gold. If the judges do not give

:38:39. > :38:41.him tens, I think they are wrong. You had joined the strictly come

:38:42. > :39:01.dancing judging panel therefore a moment!

:39:02. > :39:15.Look how tight it is for third and fourth. Matt Mitcham has a big dive

:39:16. > :39:22.at the end. You noticed Tom Daley walking up the steps followed by his

:39:23. > :39:27.coach. They have been lots of questions, but he is moving up to

:39:28. > :39:33.the dry land diving area where he is preparing for each and every dive. I

:39:34. > :39:42.think he has enjoyed being here. His body might not feel quite that way

:39:43. > :39:53.after this competition! 2.7, not a big tariff dive. He is off, you

:39:54. > :40:01.wants to get this competition done. And he has. Six dives. He has hurt

:40:02. > :40:06.himself on quite a few of his dives in training but he is made of tough

:40:07. > :40:10.stuff. He can have a rest now. A beautiful dive to finish. Does not

:40:11. > :40:16.really hold his arms down long enough so the judges were penalised

:40:17. > :40:33.him. -- the judges will penalised him. Two Indian divers here. A huge

:40:34. > :40:44.cheer up once again for the little man. He will look very different in

:40:45. > :40:50.four years time, will Matthew Dixon. Being 14, pint sized and doing a

:40:51. > :41:05.forward two and doing a forward twist. He has really gone for it. He

:41:06. > :41:10.actually landed on the head of the ten-metre board and he pushed so

:41:11. > :41:17.much effort into it. Pops up into the air, just a bit of an over

:41:18. > :41:19.rotation. One twist, into the two and a half somersaults. What a

:41:20. > :41:31.performance from this young boy. Great work. We will see more of him.

:41:32. > :41:34.European Championships. He should be going to the World Championships

:41:35. > :41:49.next year and the Olympics in Rio, almost certain to be part of the GB

:41:50. > :42:07.team. A lot of commerce shown by this young man as well. -- promise.

:42:08. > :42:16.Final round for Yiwei, this is how he finishes off a very arduous week

:42:17. > :42:27.actually, with a lot of diving. It is a tidy finish from Yiwei. Only

:42:28. > :42:34.3.2 degree of difficulty. The twist made it even more complex and earned

:42:35. > :42:38.an extra degree of difficulty. He will finish outside of the medals

:42:39. > :42:50.but he has taken part in every competition available. He is due a

:42:51. > :43:05.rest. Now he can. He is going to finish alone Matt Dixon -- hello.

:43:06. > :43:10.rest. Now he can. He is going to below. Bedggood, a great opening,

:43:11. > :43:17.rest. Now he can. He is going to not a bad finish, but really needs

:43:18. > :43:25.high 80s preferably on this 3.6. If he gets 90, he could push for a

:43:26. > :43:36.medal. He did not quite finish the dive off a similar landing to Tom,

:43:37. > :43:40.but for different reasons. Just needed to squeeze that shape a

:43:41. > :43:46.little longer to straighten out as he goes in. High risk, a high degree

:43:47. > :43:52.of difficulty, it did not quite work out for the young Australian. Not a

:43:53. > :43:59.good finish in the evening, that is why he is a bit down on his total

:44:00. > :44:11.mark, does not make 400 this time. His medal chances have disappeared.

:44:12. > :44:28.Li, Bouchard, and Mitchum, all doing this dive in the last round. From

:44:29. > :44:31.Wellington, he decided after retiring a few years ago that he

:44:32. > :44:41.would come back into this ought, and he has done just that. A beautiful

:44:42. > :44:48.diver to finish from Li, he has done a lot of diving as well. Moved away

:44:49. > :44:55.from the board a little bit, I think that is a good entry, will get an

:44:56. > :45:07.eight from the judges. But will not break 400. 20 points shy. I love

:45:08. > :45:15.you, Edinburgh. Yes, of course.

:45:16. > :45:32.Now, what can James Denny do for us on his biggest dive? He needs 90, so

:45:33. > :45:41.he will need minds to go top -- nines. Is he take full of that --

:45:42. > :45:49.capable? It is pretty good. This is the diver

:45:50. > :46:04.in the cookie and Tom out of trouble when they were way out of pace in

:46:05. > :46:10.the synchro. -- the dive that got he and Tom out of trouble.

:46:11. > :46:25.Reviewing it, going over it with his coach. Adrian will know how to

:46:26. > :46:31.resolve that problem. Lang, of Malaysia. He has not shifted from

:46:32. > :46:41.that third place in the last couple of rounds. What will it take to get

:46:42. > :46:52.him to first place? This is a 3.2. Just over a seven average will put

:46:53. > :47:01.him at the top of the board with for -- four to go.

:47:02. > :47:09.He has been diving out of his skin and has saved his best till last.

:47:10. > :47:19.This will be close, the pressure is on. Will that be good enough for

:47:20. > :47:24.silver with Mitchum still to dive? Tom Daley will have very little to

:47:25. > :47:37.do, just complete the dive and it is pretty much his gold medal. 75 will

:47:38. > :47:51.put the Canadian in the lead. Eight, and I think he is as good as a

:47:52. > :47:57.medal. Very smooth and precise, a great

:47:58. > :48:05.entry, all he can do. Will it be good enough? It is going to be

:48:06. > :48:14.tight. I don't know. Not quite the vertical as he goes into the water.

:48:15. > :48:22.Only 17 years old. He will be back. That is a shame. He will grow in

:48:23. > :48:31.every respect in terms of the quality, and more bulked up next

:48:32. > :48:39.time. Bouchard, needs ten basically, if

:48:40. > :48:53.you is to reach third place, with Mitchum and Tom Daley still to come.

:48:54. > :49:00.A tough one to finish on. We have seen it a few times before, a little

:49:01. > :49:06.bit off the pace. He is holding his elbow. It just shows you what they

:49:07. > :49:18.had to endure, striking the water at 35 mph plus every time, it is tough

:49:19. > :49:32.on the body. 7.5, Maxime Bouchard. We are down to

:49:33. > :49:37.the last two. This was worth 86.4 this morning for Matthew Mitchum. If

:49:38. > :49:48.he does that again he will get the silver medal. Anything under 82, it

:49:49. > :49:54.is bronze. So a fluctuation of five points would make a lot of

:49:55. > :50:01.difference. This is a 3.6 difficulty rather than 3.2. That is where the

:50:02. > :50:09.extra point comes from, two and a half twist. I don't think that is

:50:10. > :50:15.good enough for silver, just bronze. He left himself a little too much to

:50:16. > :50:21.do. It may not yet even get a medal, he is throwing up to much

:50:22. > :50:36.splash. Less than seven and he is not in the medals. And he is not! He

:50:37. > :50:45.has had a difficult four years since India. Documented in his book. We

:50:46. > :50:53.thought he might be back to his best but he is not, and will not get a

:50:54. > :50:56.medal. This is a demonstration dive for Tom Daley, although he will want

:50:57. > :51:05.to go out with a flourish and get over 500. That is his territory, his

:51:06. > :51:12.domain. The final dive for gold at the Commonwealth Games, Tom Daley.

:51:13. > :51:20.There you go, outstanding from Tom Daley. Retaining the title he won in

:51:21. > :51:30.Delhi. Winning by an absolute country mile. He will go away over

:51:31. > :51:33.500 points, 90 plus for this one. Even with the challenge during

:51:34. > :51:40.preliminaries, the questions about what he has been doing, he has

:51:41. > :51:50.silenced his critics. Gold for Tom Daley! There is his new coach. He

:51:51. > :52:01.has done that with absolute precision. He has not let anybody

:52:02. > :52:06.get within touching distance of him. A massive chasm between first and

:52:07. > :52:15.second. Look at this, it will tell you exactly what you need to know.

:52:16. > :52:24.516.5, Tom Daley, then the rest scrapping for second and third.

:52:25. > :52:29.Reindeau Of Canada picks up the bronze. Matt Dixon, and we will look

:52:30. > :52:35.out for him in a few years time, ninth place.

:52:36. > :52:43.Tom Daley absolutely delivered. People were getting tickets for this

:52:44. > :52:47.event a year ago and today people were still queueing outside. Many

:52:48. > :52:52.did not have tickets and hoped they could just sneak in. It was pouring

:52:53. > :53:01.with rain. A young girl who came from Plymouth told me, if I do not

:53:02. > :53:11.get in, at least I am here. She will be frozen, but happy. Because Tom

:53:12. > :53:14.Daley did it, and did it in style. Obviously he got a silver medal

:53:15. > :53:21.yesterday with his synchro partner, James Denny, that was very much a

:53:22. > :53:22.test, it was announced late they would do it. It was

:53:23. > :53:29.test, it was announced late they would do just a bonus, yesterday.

:53:30. > :53:33.Tonight was the main focus. The preliminary round went OK, then he

:53:34. > :53:41.absolutely smashed it in the final, with that first dive. He set out his

:53:42. > :54:04.stall, said, this is what I am all about, what I going to do. People

:54:05. > :54:10.would -- were deafened after that first diver. It is an unbelievable

:54:11. > :54:16.atmosphere. You go from one extreme to the other. It is absolute silence

:54:17. > :54:22.and a real respect for the fact that they need absolute concentration, as

:54:23. > :54:25.soon as they hit the water, everybody roars. And not just for

:54:26. > :54:32.Tom Daley, but all the other competitors, James Denny, his friend

:54:33. > :54:37.and rival, he did not have the best night at the pool, he will not be

:54:38. > :54:44.happy with that, not his best performance. But a new star has been

:54:45. > :54:55.born in the shape of the 14-year-old who looks like a ten-year-old, not

:54:56. > :55:10.bothered by the pressure, here on my left hand side, Matt Dixon. Leon

:55:11. > :55:15.Taylor is here. Yes, Tom Daley retaining his title

:55:16. > :55:21.in fine fashion. Nobody even featured. He literally just needed

:55:22. > :55:27.to fall in on that last dive to retain his title.

:55:28. > :55:31.He attracts a phenomenal amount of attention because of who he is and

:55:32. > :55:36.what he has achieved. But does he look and listen to what is written

:55:37. > :55:41.about him? He only pays attention to what is

:55:42. > :55:45.important to him. You cannot be distracted by criticism but you need

:55:46. > :55:52.to be aware of it. He interacts with his massive fan base as much as he

:55:53. > :55:57.can, he is a great person to know, and it is great to see him finish

:55:58. > :56:00.with a gold here. England have come away with a full chest of medals

:56:01. > :56:05.from this beautiful pool in Edinburgh.

:56:06. > :56:22.Has the feel-good factor Robert off on the rest of the team? -- rubbed

:56:23. > :56:29.off? Yes, and to finish with the gold is

:56:30. > :56:37.the best thing for the team. Hannah was so emotional. Was that a

:56:38. > :56:43.surprise bronze medal for her? Yes, it is a closely contested,

:56:44. > :56:47.high-class field. She needs to be on top of her game and she pulled it

:56:48. > :56:52.out when she needed to. I was so pleased for her.

:56:53. > :56:59.You look just as relieved as everybody else! Lots of people will

:57:00. > :57:05.enjoy a drink, and Tom Daley certainly deserves one. He did it in

:57:06. > :57:09.some style. Thank you to our crew in Edinburgh.

:57:10. > :57:16.We will hopefully hear from Tom Daley shortly. More to come in the

:57:17. > :57:37.final hour of the programme. Our big finish is at 10pm. First, the news.

:57:38. > :57:47.From the Premier League to the FA Cup,

:57:48. > :57:50.Football League and the best women's football...

:57:51. > :57:53...there's more football than ever all across the BBC.

:57:54. > :58:04.We've got factory boys and butchers' apprentices and office clerks

:58:05. > :58:10.Don't stop moving! If you go back you'll die!

:58:11. > :58:28.Hi, I'm Sam, back to the Games after a minute from us.

:58:29. > :58:29.Israel's carried out fresh strikes on Gaza.

:58:30. > :58:32.While Palestinian militants have fired more rockets into Israel.

:58:33. > :58:34.Egypt's urged both sides to adopt a ceasefire plan.

:58:35. > :58:39.Body parts of a man have been found at a recycling plant near Bristol.

:58:40. > :58:42.Police have named him as 34-year-old Matthew Symonds from Swindon.

:58:43. > :58:43.His death's being treated as "unexplained".

:58:44. > :58:46.Thousands of pounds have been raised for a surrogate baby abandoned

:58:47. > :58:53.They took his twin sister, but left him behind.

:58:54. > :58:58.A second athlete's failed a drugs test at the Games.

:58:59. > :59:01.The runner tested positive for a banned substance

:59:02. > :59:05.And looks like another Apprentice star is joining the House of Lords.

:59:06. > :59:08.Reports suggest Karren Brady is set to become a Conservative Peer.

:59:09. > :59:25.Now, it's back to Dan with more live action from Glasgow.

:59:26. > :59:27.Yeah, I am looking for a Prince Charming.

:59:28. > :59:31.I don't think I'm ugly, but I don't think I'm, like, really pretty.

:59:32. > :59:36.I say, "You've got something on your bum." "Really?" And I say,

:59:37. > :00:15.view down the Clyde. The sky is a little moodier tonight. We are going

:00:16. > :00:19.to take you straight to Edinburgh, some hockey on the way, the gold

:00:20. > :00:25.medal match, it is goalless at the moment. As promised, here is Tom

:00:26. > :00:34.Daley after winning the gold medal in the Commonwealth pool.

:00:35. > :00:41.Congratulations, you did it in some style. It was a lot better than this

:00:42. > :00:51.morning. I got into it a little bit quicker. The front four and a half

:00:52. > :00:58.was still not as good but still lots of positives and I am really happy.

:00:59. > :01:08.Can you ever sit back and enjoy it rushed and not no! It is white

:01:09. > :01:11.difficult being so far in front. You have to blanked everything out and

:01:12. > :01:19.just think, someone is chasing you and you have to go for a ten. Matt

:01:20. > :01:27.Mitcham your friend and rival. What is going through your head when you

:01:28. > :01:33.are diving next to him? Once you have done the dive, then you can

:01:34. > :01:38.start worrying about the results. You have seen so many successes.

:01:39. > :01:43.Were you feeling the pressure of the success of Jack and the girls and

:01:44. > :01:51.the medals we have one in England? Team England have won so many

:01:52. > :01:55.medals. British diving is in a really strong place at the moment.

:01:56. > :01:59.It has been a very long season. We have the European Championships

:02:00. > :02:09.still that I am happy to have a few days off now! Are you glad it is

:02:10. > :02:13.over? I am very tired, we have had five World Series, the World Cup, I

:02:14. > :02:21.have not had a day off in about four weeks! I am so looking forward to a

:02:22. > :02:26.life in tomorrow morning! A lot of people says this is a rehearsal for

:02:27. > :02:31.Rio, where does this put you? Yell at it puts me in a good place. I

:02:32. > :02:36.have to put all of the dives together in one list. I got a

:02:37. > :02:44.personal best in Mexico in June. I have to make sure I keep working

:02:45. > :02:49.hard. Congratulations Tom. Tom Daley, double Commonwealth

:02:50. > :02:54.champions talking to Helen Skelton. You can catch up with what Tom Daley

:02:55. > :02:59.has been doing, have a look on the website. We will show you what is

:03:00. > :03:05.happening where on the BBC on the 10th day of the Commonwealth Games.

:03:06. > :03:15.The athletics on BBC1, including Usain Bolt running in the Jamaican

:03:16. > :03:23.relay team. The boxing continues on the red button. We showed you plenty

:03:24. > :03:27.of that yesterday. Joe Joyce, the big boy from team England is

:03:28. > :03:33.fighting soon. He is the favourite to win another gold medal for the

:03:34. > :03:39.home nation. You can watch a bit badminton online. England currently

:03:40. > :03:44.in action in women's doubles. The BBC website is your catch all to

:03:45. > :03:50.every single sport. If you have been inspired to get into anything you

:03:51. > :03:54.have seen, maybe even diving! We have seen Matthew Dixon and dives in

:03:55. > :04:06.Plymouth. I'm Tom Daley who started so young. Go to the Get Inspired

:04:07. > :04:12.section of the website. We will take you to some more live sports now. We

:04:13. > :04:16.can now deliver the hockey on BBC Three. England's women are going for

:04:17. > :04:23.the gold medal in the Glasgow hockey centre.

:04:24. > :04:34.We saw them with a remarkable penny -- penalty shoot out against New

:04:35. > :04:41.Zealand. It is 0-0 at the moment. Will this be a second-half ending

:04:42. > :04:49.with a gold medal for England? Let's go to our commentators.

:04:50. > :05:02.COMMENTATOR: The kangaroo, of course!

:05:03. > :05:13.20 seconds before we get underway, in much better condition than an

:05:14. > :05:16.hour or two ago here at the hockey centre. Hopefully no more rain and

:05:17. > :05:24.certainly the cloud cover has lifted.

:05:25. > :05:34.Australia begin the second half of the gold medal match, everything to

:05:35. > :05:42.play for. Bone and Jodie Kenny. Over to Flanagan. This time, Danson has

:05:43. > :05:51.the ball. A little clip of an England stick and Australia lose

:05:52. > :05:55.position. Quek, just the one penalty corner Australia were able to force

:05:56. > :06:05.but it went out of the danger zone. For England.

:06:06. > :06:26.Now with Gilbert, still with Gilbert. And here she comes again.

:06:27. > :06:30.Susie Gilbert rocketing it out the Australian defence. And Quek has it,

:06:31. > :06:34.Sam Quek for England, keeping possession, the pressure coming from

:06:35. > :06:41.England in the stages of the second half.

:06:42. > :06:46.Audacious talent, that youngster. It came off her stick and

:06:47. > :06:53.Audacious talent, that youngster. It brass, she walked up and tried to

:06:54. > :06:58.get the free hit, love it! It is what I used to love about

:06:59. > :07:01.the younger players in the team. They would just go out and play

:07:02. > :07:07.hockey and you get the sense that Lily Owsley is exactly the same, she

:07:08. > :07:11.does not really know the names of the hockey players are, she is just

:07:12. > :07:16.happy to be out there and wreaking havoc among some of the best players

:07:17. > :07:25.of the world. All of the skills on show for the 19-year-old. A clever

:07:26. > :07:27.pass from Richardson-Walsh. At the moment, denying Australia

:07:28. > :07:45.possession, England. Now the ball goes out of the deep

:07:46. > :07:51.defence but picked up, pressure coming from Australia. Blyth will

:07:52. > :07:59.get the free hit. Off she goes. He touched her left, finding Peers --

:08:00. > :08:20.Peris. Nicola White wanting to make a

:08:21. > :08:25.statement. Danson coming over to help and drives the ball out of

:08:26. > :08:32.defence but again it is Jodie Kenny. That was Annesley this time, Giselle

:08:33. > :08:47.Ansley. Luckily she was just outside the circle.

:08:48. > :09:00.Kenny, it is mopped up by Unsworth. In the end, catching Bone's foot on

:09:01. > :09:06.the way through. They are looking very confident unit, England. They

:09:07. > :09:11.are. As time ticks by, the pressure is certainly an Australia. England

:09:12. > :09:17.are the underdog. So much has been mentioned about their summer far.

:09:18. > :09:20.White has it for England, finding Annesley and she drives the ball

:09:21. > :09:33.across. The ball is intercepted by McMahon. This is what England have

:09:34. > :09:43.done, Australia, not picking the ball up cleanly. Australia beat

:09:44. > :09:59.Malaysia, 4-0, Wales and Scotland 9-0.

:10:00. > :10:06.Cummings, the Australian coach, very nonchalant at this stage but will be

:10:07. > :10:17.concerned his team have not got position. -- commends Max

:10:18. > :10:28.This is an excellent tackle from Richardson-Walsh. That was brave.

:10:29. > :10:45.Peris has won it again. They surge into the circle.

:10:46. > :11:00.Soft hand pass to Townsend. Gilbert is up there. Lily Owsley over the

:11:01. > :11:08.other side. They have got out of the deep defensive area.

:11:09. > :11:22.You cannot fault any player for not putting the effort in. Across the

:11:23. > :11:30.face, is a lone Australian player and a good touch out by Giselle

:11:31. > :11:34.Ansley. Getting the free hit. It also put it into some perspective,

:11:35. > :11:39.this Hockeyroos team, apart from the exceptions of Madonna Blyth and

:11:40. > :11:44.Eastman, they are used to meddling in tournaments and they will here,

:11:45. > :11:48.but for England, it could not have got any worse and they almost got to

:11:49. > :11:51.the darkest place possible for them as a group and they are coming out

:11:52. > :11:56.the other side and they will regard even just making this final a huge

:11:57. > :12:00.success. It certainly seems to me as if the pressures are all on

:12:01. > :12:15.Australia. Some of their players are not handling it as well as you would

:12:16. > :12:17.expect them to. England have held position and that

:12:18. > :12:31.has been the key. Richardson-Walsh, pushing high up.

:12:32. > :12:34.Accurate passing again coming from England.

:12:35. > :12:38.Richardson-Walsh, pushing high up. Accurate passing again coming A

:12:39. > :12:45.small avenue to get that all in. But they will not give away possession

:12:46. > :12:59.if they can help it. That was eight of pass. -- a tough pass. This is a

:13:00. > :13:07.sustained period of stopping Australia having the ball on the end

:13:08. > :13:41.of their sticks. Cannot go back that way.

:13:42. > :13:52.Richardson-Walsh stretching hard. Possibly a little lucky not to see a

:13:53. > :14:27.penalty corner. One already awarded. Flannigan. Pearce. Could

:14:28. > :14:38.not grab it that time. Emily Smith is being spoken to by the umpire.

:14:39. > :14:46.She did not retreat the required five metres, it is all for safety,

:14:47. > :15:01.it is important. That is a hard one to take in. And a turnover.

:15:02. > :15:09.Pressure. Watson. Absorbing hockey. England are denying Australia

:15:10. > :15:22.possession. Forward they poor. Kelli White with the ball. The footwork is

:15:23. > :15:40.not quite there, so they can pop the ball onto a stick, Australia.

:15:41. > :15:56.Claxton, what can she get for Australia? Webb, under pressure, she

:15:57. > :16:30.believes. -- opting to go back to the

:16:31. > :16:41.skipper. But it is backwards from Australia. Ashley Nelson, into the

:16:42. > :16:48.circle it goes, but again England have time to read and get the ball

:16:49. > :16:53.out. The free hit. Both teams realise what is at stake.

:16:54. > :16:58.Yes, they will both go home with something, but they both want the

:16:59. > :17:04.gold medal. The fact that we have had only seven shots on goal in all

:17:05. > :17:18.the play so far, that just shows, not able of action in the circle. --

:17:19. > :17:27.not a lot. Flanagan with the ball for Australia. Again, lots of

:17:28. > :17:39.English players around. Play on, is the call. Kenny steps up. Taking it

:17:40. > :17:48.for Australia. Off-loads, but not where Nelson wanted.

:17:49. > :17:52.It was a great step up from Kenny but she needed to play wide, instead

:17:53. > :17:59.she went for the longer option to Smith. The connection was just not

:18:00. > :18:07.there. Excellent progress down the right

:18:08. > :18:13.flank. Suzy Gilbert. Danson, looking for the free hit, and they get it.

:18:14. > :18:27.They rush to attack, again through Gilbert, slamming it across,

:18:28. > :18:44.Owsley! It is in! It is 1-0 to England!

:18:45. > :18:54.A fantastic ball from Gilbert, and Australia can not appeal. Who says

:18:55. > :18:58.that forwards cannot tackle, Danson, download, makes a strong

:18:59. > :19:08.tackle, and then calmness personified from Owsley, a goal in

:19:09. > :19:16.the semifinal, now one in the final. It is England who have the crowd

:19:17. > :19:23.behind them. All that work that they have done in keeping the ball,

:19:24. > :19:34.starving Australia of any time with ball and stick, then the chance they

:19:35. > :19:40.got, they have taken it. One - zero, England lead, 21 minutes remaining

:19:41. > :19:45.in the gold medal match. Flanagan for Australia. Claxton. Drives it

:19:46. > :19:56.in. Three England defenders, and it for Australia. Claxton. Drives it

:19:57. > :20:08.is deemed to have hit the hand. A free hit. One of the best players

:20:09. > :20:16.for England with that ball out on the right, Webb.

:20:17. > :20:47.Those are the mistakes England have forced.

:20:48. > :20:53.The coach is unhappy and that can easily transfer to the ditch.

:20:54. > :20:58.Australia feel that every decision is going against them, they are not

:20:59. > :21:07.getting the blow of the whistle. Kelli White. A great shot in, but no

:21:08. > :21:09.Australian stick on the end of it, and it is all hands to the pump for

:21:10. > :21:44.England. Bone, for Australia. Out to

:21:45. > :21:47.Flanagan. Trying to get around Owsley but all the English players

:21:48. > :21:58.are back defending, putting pressure on. There is a hard ball again,

:21:59. > :22:09.pressure showing, speeding the game, putting the pressure on Australia.

:22:10. > :22:31.Quick, gets past two, gets it onto Danson, a little pass to keep

:22:32. > :22:42.going, and here is a card. Green card. She runs off.

:22:43. > :22:46.There was not much that Casey could do. It has been given for a bawdy

:22:47. > :22:54.obstruction but it was just the quick movement of Danson that letter

:22:55. > :23:07.was nothing to do. But she has no choice but to run off and sit down

:23:08. > :23:13.as quickly as she can. Townsend working hard. Look at the

:23:14. > :23:19.pressure Australia are under now. Just over 17 minutes to play in the

:23:20. > :23:29.gold medal match. Australia, who have been so dominant, they defeated

:23:30. > :23:36.South Africa 7-1 in the semifinal. England, how plucky are they?

:23:37. > :23:45.Winning the semifinal and putting a total unit performance together.

:23:46. > :24:00.Deny, deny, deny Australia time on the ball. It is absorbing and

:24:01. > :24:15.intriguing. A little slip past down the left. Lucy Woods, can she keep

:24:16. > :24:29.it? In the circle go England. Kenny has it. They are in a fight,

:24:30. > :24:50.Australia. At the moment, it is not one they are winning.

:24:51. > :24:57.As we mentioned earlier, eight shots in the entire game but one thing

:24:58. > :25:08.England do exceptionally well... in the entire game but one thing

:25:09. > :25:13.hit the post! It hit the post! It can so often happen like that. A

:25:14. > :25:24.sudden opportunity for Australia. Just when we were thinking...

:25:25. > :25:33.It is just a speculative pass. Then the spin off the post confuses her,

:25:34. > :25:37.and she has to find the ball at her feet, by then she was closed down.

:25:38. > :25:45.Clearly you need to be alert at all times.

:25:46. > :25:58.All the time. Flanagan. Was that the robber of the green Australia was

:25:59. > :26:05.searching for? -- rub of. Danson, with plenty of options to pass back.

:26:06. > :26:10.Richardson-Walsh on the left side. It was her pass that helped the ball

:26:11. > :26:17.into the circle, but Flanagan mops up at the back. Under 15 minutes to

:26:18. > :26:28.play in the gold medal match. But a mistake by Nelson! The pressure, you

:26:29. > :26:34.can tell, the feverish way the players are reacting. Just clipping

:26:35. > :26:49.Nelson's foot. Pearce, out of defence, but just

:26:50. > :26:54.going on to the forehand of Unsworth, picked off. Kenny has to

:26:55. > :27:08.hurdle. Gets over Danson, Unsworth, picked off. Kenny has to

:27:09. > :27:16.quick 1-2 passes. Ainsley still has it up the left flank. They are

:27:17. > :27:22.shutting down the Australian options so quickly, England, and again this

:27:23. > :27:34.ball will run onto the stick of Richardson-Walsh. This is heart in

:27:35. > :27:42.mouth stuff! Technically the way both coaches

:27:43. > :27:46.have set about playing is fantastic. We have seen all these teams playing

:27:47. > :27:49.at the Commonwealth Games, you know what they are capable of, and this

:27:50. > :28:01.is the implementation of plan comment off, under enormous

:28:02. > :28:36.pressure. -- coming. Ashley, picking up the wall with for English players

:28:37. > :28:46.-- four players around. What can Australia conjure up?

:28:47. > :28:56.Flanagan, more patient. McMahon. A little slip ball. Pearce came right

:28:57. > :29:10.over the top and forces another mistake. Excellent ball down the

:29:11. > :29:25.right flank. It is interesting, all of the rain

:29:26. > :29:33.that fell in Glasgow today, it funded down on this pitch, it has

:29:34. > :29:48.dried out remarkably well. The ball will speed. Eastham gets the back

:29:49. > :29:58.foot of White and Eastham again. Australia getting the speed wobbles

:29:59. > :30:02.a bit. It is in the circle now, it is high towards the goal and comes

:30:03. > :30:17.off the stick of an English defender. A long corner. Into the

:30:18. > :30:24.circle. Parker gets dispossessed. Look at that, three Australian

:30:25. > :30:34.defenders and a free hit to England. Richardson-Walsh.

:30:35. > :30:43.As an opponent, when your opposite number starts to have a go at the

:30:44. > :30:46.umpire for every little decision, it gives you the decision because you

:30:47. > :30:51.know you are getting the upper hand on them and it knocks them off their

:30:52. > :30:54.game. We are so used to seeing Australia passing the ball and

:30:55. > :30:57.playing free-flowing hockey and at the moment, we are seeing the

:30:58. > :31:01.forward getting the ball and trying to do it on their own and take on

:31:02. > :31:06.four defenders and it is not really going to happen for them. They have

:31:07. > :31:12.not held onto the ball long enough. They sustained passing around the

:31:13. > :31:19.midfield, that is when Australia are at their most dangerous. Start with

:31:20. > :31:26.a powerful unit and they could not get their sticks on the ball. Now

:31:27. > :31:35.they have it, down the flank. But they are almost going to fast. They

:31:36. > :31:42.are feeling the heat, the pressure, under ten minutes to play in this

:31:43. > :31:49.gold medal match. Only two goals have been scored against Australia

:31:50. > :31:54.in Commonwealth Games 2014. One by the South African, Celia Evans, and

:31:55. > :32:02.now, Lily Owsley. Giving England a 1-0 lead. Look at that crowd

:32:03. > :32:08.roaring. The roar of the crowd keeping them going. Lily Owsley,

:32:09. > :32:22.lifted into the Australian player. Up and over and out of the midfield

:32:23. > :32:31.this time. Richardson-Walsh taking a blow but they will have to carry on.

:32:32. > :32:38.Georgie Parker's stick just got caught under Richardson-Walsh's

:32:39. > :32:43.armpit and she was not going to let it go easily, she was going to wait

:32:44. > :32:49.until she picked her own stick up before releasing it. Bray denies

:32:50. > :33:10.again. It is a free chance for Australia,

:33:11. > :33:16.can they get the shot in? Peris. Hinch watching the ball ever so

:33:17. > :33:17.closely. It is heart in mouth stuff now. Seven and a half minutes to

:33:18. > :33:28.play. The ball is with England. Giselle

:33:29. > :33:50.Ansley, one of the young brigade. I guess at this stage, seven minutes

:33:51. > :33:56.left in the match, England with the 1-0 lead, any thoughts from Danny

:33:57. > :34:02.Kerry about the equaliser New Zealand were able to get before it

:34:03. > :34:08.went into penalty shoot outs. I am sure they were discussions as to why

:34:09. > :34:10.that happened. But I think the team performance today has been

:34:11. > :34:16.outstanding and I think England will be looking at the clock ticking down

:34:17. > :34:21.and it will feel like it is in slow motion and Australia feel it is

:34:22. > :34:23.going at double-time. Six and a half minutes is still a long time in a

:34:24. > :34:45.hockey match. Flanagan has the captain waiting, a

:34:46. > :34:53.swinging stick relieves the pressure and Danson comes away with the ball.

:34:54. > :34:57.Taylor still contesting for Australia. England now with the free

:34:58. > :35:16.hit. Full press coming from Australia.

:35:17. > :35:20.They need to get some more possession and get an opportunity

:35:21. > :35:33.and show the hockey they have played to this crowd. Leaving no room for

:35:34. > :35:43.Australia to get their traditional passing game into play.

:35:44. > :35:51.One of the finest games you will see from a deep defender, Hollie Webb

:35:52. > :35:52.combining again with his skipper. This is inspirational hockey from

:35:53. > :36:16.England. Will this be the ranks to riches --

:36:17. > :36:19.the ranks to riches? The disappointment, coming 11th in the

:36:20. > :36:25.World Cup, but what it transformations seven weeks later.

:36:26. > :36:33.-- what a transformation, seven weeks later.

:36:34. > :36:49.Again, Hollie Webb. It is a combination of Unsworth and Webb.

:36:50. > :36:51.Flanagan dragging it down, across the field it goes, four minutes

:36:52. > :37:03.left. I don't think I have ever seen an

:37:04. > :37:06.Australian team make this many mistakes. We talk about pressure and

:37:07. > :37:10.what it does to people but we are used to seeing the ball literally

:37:11. > :37:16.sticking to their sticks like glue. It is just not happening. Adam

:37:17. > :37:20.Commens is not going to be a happy man at the moment. He is clearly

:37:21. > :37:29.communicating with his staff up in the stands. England have got just

:37:30. > :37:30.over three minutes to hold out. The green and gold attack from

:37:31. > :37:46.Australia. Back to Kenny. And across again, the

:37:47. > :37:59.players not getting where they won two and having to move. -- not

:38:00. > :38:06.getting it where they want to. England not intimidated by anything

:38:07. > :38:16.that has been put on. Parker has it. It is the captain who comes up with

:38:17. > :38:24.the ball. The anticipation is building, not only in the crowd but

:38:25. > :38:33.any England supporter. This has been a truly phenomenal performance by

:38:34. > :38:41.England. Who is the woman who intercepts? Hollie Webb. This is

:38:42. > :38:47.sensational. They have played the majority of this half in their deep

:38:48. > :38:53.defence, England. The crowd are beginning to sense, with two minutes

:38:54. > :39:02.left on the clock, the roar is starting to up and over. Up and over

:39:03. > :39:16.the ball goes, into empty space. Less than two minutes.

:39:17. > :39:24.Flanagan, over the baseline to a long corner for Australia. One and a

:39:25. > :39:34.half minutes in the gold-medal match. Just the tactical ability,

:39:35. > :39:41.firstly, from Danny Kerry and they get the penalty corner. The drama is

:39:42. > :39:45.not finished in this match and Unsworth flicks the ball away, is

:39:46. > :39:51.this the opportunity Australia have been searching for and waiting for?

:39:52. > :39:56.A fantastic spin by Georgie Parker. Richardson-Walsh bows low which is

:39:57. > :40:00.something... Actually she does not go low on that one unfortunately.

:40:01. > :40:05.Normally she is one of the lowest defenders. This is Australia's last

:40:06. > :40:12.real chance of getting back in this game. The defenders have less than

:40:13. > :40:18.nine seconds to set themselves, they have a look up and they see Kenny

:40:19. > :40:24.and Flanagan. 37 seconds, it is run down, it'll another one. Lily Owsley

:40:25. > :40:32.has broken has she? Yes, she has gone too early. Holding tank, fair

:40:33. > :40:38.enough, 24 seconds on the clock. They are going for a referral. I

:40:39. > :40:46.think they are saying... We will wait and find out. Can you hear me?

:40:47. > :40:53.The number five from England broke early, I said. Can you have a look

:40:54. > :41:04.and see if there is anything wrong with the shot corner? I have said

:41:05. > :41:10.restart. It is something Australia were blown up for earlier in the

:41:11. > :41:18.tournament. It is a short corner, England lose their referral? That is

:41:19. > :41:21.correct. Lily Owsley will remove herself from the defensive area,

:41:22. > :41:27.they lose a defender because they broke. And now England, with 24

:41:28. > :41:42.seconds on the clock, have to defend the penalty corner, drag flip time

:41:43. > :41:55.for these two. Kenny and Flanagan. It is in! Oh my goodness! With 18

:41:56. > :42:09.seconds on the clock, Australia have drawn level with England! Can you

:42:10. > :42:15.believe it? You cannot write this script, you

:42:16. > :42:22.really cannot. It is a fantastic finish, under pressure, from Kenny.

:42:23. > :42:29.Richardson-Walsh does everything she can to get out of that. But it looks

:42:30. > :42:37.like we will go to a shoot out. Absolutely gutting for England. The

:42:38. > :42:45.next five minutes are about getting your players back into focus mode.

:42:46. > :42:49.D?j? vu for England. They have played superbly well and you cannot

:42:50. > :42:55.find enough adjectives for what they have done. But it finishes 1-1 in

:42:56. > :43:09.the gold medal match here in Glasgow. It is all there to see in

:43:10. > :43:22.the face is obvious trillions, was that their get out of jail card? --

:43:23. > :43:28.in the faces of the Australians. The medal was almost around the English

:43:29. > :43:37.neck and then with seconds to go, that penalty corner. The Australians

:43:38. > :43:49.cannot believe it either! Or can they just not there to look at the

:43:50. > :44:01.shoot out? -- just not bear to look. Let's look at the statistics.

:44:02. > :44:09.Not a huge amount of shots on goal, 11 from Australia, just two from

:44:10. > :44:18.England, but they really made it count until the final seconds of the

:44:19. > :44:33.game. You just have too field for goal-scorer Owsley. -- feel. That is

:44:34. > :44:39.calmness, for a 19-year-old to do that in a gold medal match of the

:44:40. > :44:50.Commonwealth Games. You can see what it means. It was just what they

:44:51. > :44:59.deserved for the amount of defensive work they put in. It lifted the

:45:00. > :45:10.crowd and got everyone behind them. Just over Lynch as she comes out of

:45:11. > :45:13.goal. Exceptional. But then Owsley was sent to the halfway line,

:45:14. > :45:20.leaving England with three defenders, and Kenny puts it into

:45:21. > :45:29.the only place possible to send this into a shoot out. And unbelievable

:45:30. > :45:37.end to an unbelievable match. A game for the purists. Fascinating

:45:38. > :45:43.tactics. The English coaches outmanoeuvred New Zealand yesterday

:45:44. > :45:48.and almost outmanoeuvred the number two team in the world. What a

:45:49. > :45:54.cracker. This gold-medal match has had everything, and other lights

:45:55. > :46:10.here at the Glasgow National hockey centre -- under the lights. From the

:46:11. > :46:13.25 line the attackers will have eight seconds to weave their way

:46:14. > :46:22.into the circle and get past the keeper to score. The keepers have

:46:23. > :46:34.eight seconds to prevent the oncoming forward from scoring. A

:46:35. > :46:42.stroke can be awarded if a misdemeanour by the keeper prevents

:46:43. > :46:47.a potential goal. Eight seconds can seem like a long time for the

:46:48. > :46:56.goalkeeper, and the supporters in the crowd.

:46:57. > :47:03.And safety say we have two of the best goalkeepers for this scenario.

:47:04. > :47:14.Two world-class goalkeepers on show when it comes to the shoot out.

:47:15. > :47:19.Both teams will have done their homework, and the English

:47:20. > :47:29.goalkeeper, Hinch, marching into her cage, making the goal looked small.

:47:30. > :47:36.And there is Casey Eastham waiting on the first eight second countdown

:47:37. > :47:44.starting. A hush over the hockey centre.

:47:45. > :48:00.Absolute silence. Sorry, can you wait one second. She

:48:01. > :48:05.will blow to start. Hinch, did the right thing, just

:48:06. > :48:19.checking what was happening. Here it comes now. A little move, not much

:48:20. > :48:31.time... And it is a goal. That is the calmness you expect from

:48:32. > :48:34.somebody in their 216th game. The question will be whether England

:48:35. > :48:44.change what they did yesterday against New Zealand. Twigg, at

:48:45. > :48:59.first. Twigg, with the ball. 1-1, Twigg

:49:00. > :49:08.gets hers in. They are on the edge of their seats here.

:49:09. > :49:09.Good running angle by Twigg to take Lynch away from the middle of the

:49:10. > :49:35.goal. Two successful penalty shoot out.

:49:36. > :49:52.White. Just the squeak of the pants, it is saved! Hinch, says the first

:49:53. > :49:55.one for England. -- saves. That is unbelievable. The body

:49:56. > :50:13.weight going one way, somehow she manages.

:50:14. > :50:26.Athleticism and ability. Danson. Now, the whistle. Danson Does a

:50:27. > :50:33.quick swivel, but it goes wide. The Australians breathe again.

:50:34. > :50:41.The exact manoeuvre at she tried yesterday. Just that final little

:50:42. > :50:53.nudge takes the ball away from where she wants it to be.

:50:54. > :51:13.Parker now for Australia. Up against Hinch. And in it goes. What a bullet

:51:14. > :51:21.from Parker. Make no mistake, one of the best executions we have seen at

:51:22. > :51:30.the Commonwealth Games. A fantastic finish under pressure

:51:31. > :51:42.from Parker. Susie Gilbert up next for England.

:51:43. > :51:56.Tension on her face. Another miss from England.

:51:57. > :52:11.Well done, Rachel Lynch. Gilbert did just not do enough and the ball --

:52:12. > :52:23.on the ball. It is now Kenny for Australia.

:52:24. > :52:43.And a stroke. We talked about that in the lead up. Hinch Is judged to

:52:44. > :52:48.have taken Kenny out. It was a heavy fall.

:52:49. > :52:55.She has definitely taken the player and not the ball.

:52:56. > :53:00.You get one referral each in the shoot out and England have decided

:53:01. > :53:09.to go upstairs. Why not?

:53:10. > :53:25.Can you please check? The face of Maddie Hinch, the

:53:26. > :53:29.heroine yesterday. Everybody in the crowd is making their own decision

:53:30. > :53:38.but it is the video decision that we await.

:53:39. > :53:47.It is a stroke comma and England lose their referral.

:53:48. > :54:05.It has been rejected. No more referrals for England. Kenny. Versus

:54:06. > :54:14.Hinch. She missed it. She put it wide, can you believe it? Danny

:54:15. > :54:25.Carey looking cool, calm, and collected. Not even close!

:54:26. > :54:42.The faces of the crowd say it all. Not so nice, being in that position.

:54:43. > :55:01.Nicola White. Facing Lynch. It just runs over the baseline. This can now

:55:02. > :55:15.decided. -- decide it. The Australian captain, Blythe, for the

:55:16. > :55:30.gold medal. 292 caps for the 28-year-old, 65 international goals.

:55:31. > :55:39.Blythe. Slips it in. My goodness me, Australia have pinched the

:55:40. > :55:48.gold-medal. The captain provided the heroics. The Australian Governor

:55:49. > :55:54.General there. Australia have done in the business where it counted.

:55:55. > :56:03.Kate Richardson-Walsh marches over to the Australian camp.

:56:04. > :56:12.Heartbreak for England women's hockey. Against the all conquering,

:56:13. > :56:18.all-powerful Australians, they have lost. We saw the jubilation the

:56:19. > :56:24.other day at the Glasgow hockey centre, tonight it is all about

:56:25. > :56:29.Australia. It is a silver medal for England's hockey players but no

:56:30. > :56:32.doubt they will only realise what an achievement that is in a few days

:56:33. > :56:41.time when they have forgotten about the defeat. We have slightly over

:56:42. > :56:44.run on BBC Three. This what are jammed in and I cannot tell you all

:56:45. > :56:51.the guests we have coming up because we do not have much time, but we do

:56:52. > :56:53.have the flag bearer for Scotland. I hope you have enjoyed the

:56:54. > :57:04.Commonwealth Games over the last ten days. We will leave you with some

:57:05. > :57:13.magical images, accompanied by the Federation. # There is no place like

:57:14. > :57:55.home. Stimson of England wins the first

:57:56. > :58:05.gold of the Games X? Hannah Miley wins for Scotland!

:58:06. > :58:13.The 13-year-old from the Shetland Islands!

:58:14. > :58:22.Scotland are going to make it! It is gold!

:58:23. > :58:26.# there is no place like home.
