:00:00. > :00:00.makes it even more oppressive that he walked away with the bronze medal

:00:00. > :00:08.with Daryl Selby in this competition.

:00:09. > :00:13.Scenes of great joy and congratulations to England, bronze

:00:14. > :00:19.medallist, there. More live squash for you this afternoon on BBC Three

:00:20. > :00:23.but I am handing the baton to you for the last time. It is emotional.

:00:24. > :00:29.So many tears on the final day of the Commonwealth Games. But this is

:00:30. > :00:34.not the end of the game is for you. You have got a very big role to play

:00:35. > :00:40.a bit later in the day. Yes, later, I am playing Deacon blue, later, we

:00:41. > :00:45.are playing live at the closing ceremony. I did not realise you are

:00:46. > :00:53.going to play that! There we are, can we get a freeze-frame of you?

:00:54. > :00:58.There he is! Heavens above. As you can see, I look just the same as I

:00:59. > :01:03.do now, not. That is about 25 years ago. There you go, side profile.

:01:04. > :01:06.do now, not. That is about 25 years ago. There you go, You have not

:01:07. > :01:13.changed a bit. That is a terrible haircut. Same as now! Your hair

:01:14. > :01:18.clearly has not changed in 20 years. What are you going to be playing?

:01:19. > :01:23.Are you allowed to tell us? If you want to find out you have to watch

:01:24. > :01:29.the closing ceremony. I have got it down to two, so it is either that

:01:30. > :01:32.one or the other one. Speaking of which, talking about weather and

:01:33. > :01:37.water, we had torrential rain. It has eased up outside the BBC

:01:38. > :01:41.Scotland offices. But at one point, I thought you were going to have to

:01:42. > :01:46.play drums in your wellies. It is a Glasgow summer day, a bit of

:01:47. > :01:50.sunshine, rain and wind. It is a sou'wester and sunblock day and that

:01:51. > :01:56.is what we expect. People will be turning out at the closing ceremony,

:01:57. > :01:59.dressed for the occasion, probably ill-equipped for the occasion but it

:02:00. > :02:04.will be great fun to write. Kylie Minogue is playing as well. Your Ayr

:02:05. > :02:10.could you send us a Commonwelfie with Kylie?

:02:11. > :02:17.She has been asking me all week to have a photograph with me but I'm

:02:18. > :02:22.sure we can work that out. I will get one with Kylie and by that

:02:23. > :02:28.stage, we will be fair so you won't see it. Good luck with it.

:02:29. > :02:32.Good afternoon, it is the last yards of the 20th Commonwealth Games in

:02:33. > :02:38.bars go, and as do the just said, still plenty coming your way. -- in

:02:39. > :02:43.Glasgow. Between now and 70, we have four medal matches remaining in the

:02:44. > :02:47.squash. Two gold medals up for grabs, including the men's doubles.

:02:48. > :02:51.We have also got the men's gold medal match in the hockey, between

:02:52. > :02:56.Australia and India, which was played out a short while ago. Five

:02:57. > :03:00.matches and five gold medals in badminton and we will see who can

:03:01. > :03:02.finish top of the tree. And of course, all eyes on Lizzie

:03:03. > :03:06.Armitstead and David Millar in the road race.

:03:07. > :03:12.The squash at Scotstoun, which we saw a bit of a little earlier, they

:03:13. > :03:17.are running behind schedule, which means we still have plenty of squash

:03:18. > :03:21.coming away. While they tried to take a break in between events over

:03:22. > :03:23.there, let's take in some badminton. Earlier, there was the All-England

:03:24. > :03:27.final, for the Earlier, there was the All-England

:03:28. > :03:33.husband and wife pair, Chris and Gabby Adcock, up against the fourth

:03:34. > :03:36.seeds, Chris Langridge and Heather Olver. Let's find out how they got

:03:37. > :03:49.on. COMMENTATOR: That is a lovely drop

:03:50. > :04:08.shot from Chris Langridge. and Oliver have won three points.

:04:09. > :04:16.Chris Langridge, just showing the shuttle to the umpire. Saying he did

:04:17. > :04:19.not want to change it. Chris and Gabby Adcock wanted to because they

:04:20. > :04:20.have lost three points. The umpire says there is no need to change it,

:04:21. > :05:23.it is fine. Oh, my word. Chris approves of that

:05:24. > :05:27.one. What a wonderful shot from Heather Olver. But one suspects it

:05:28. > :05:41.is too little, too late. We did see Kirsty Gilmour coming

:05:42. > :05:48.back from 11-19 down, yesterday, in her semifinal. Winning ten straight

:05:49. > :05:54.points, and the match. But that goes wide. And it is eight gold-medal

:05:55. > :06:21.points for Chris and Gabby Adcock. History is made at the Commonwealth

:06:22. > :06:24.Games! For the first time ever, a husband and wife have won the gold

:06:25. > :06:39.medal in the mixed doubles. APPLAUSE

:06:40. > :06:43.And they have performed brilliantly throughout the tournament. They have

:06:44. > :06:48.not dropped a single game. And they faced some tough opponents,

:06:49. > :06:54.Malaysian, Singaporean, Scottish. And now their fellow countrymen. And

:06:55. > :06:58.it is Gabby Adcock who will be England's most successful competitor

:06:59. > :07:04.in the badminton tournament. She has a clean sweep, gold in the mixed,

:07:05. > :07:10.silver in the team, and bronze in the women's doubles. They were

:07:11. > :07:17.absolutely superb today, Chris and Gabby Adcock. It is funny, isn't it?

:07:18. > :07:21.Two married couples in two days winning gold in mixed doubles, in

:07:22. > :07:22.two different sports, of course, after Paul and Joanna Drinkhall in

:07:23. > :07:48.the table tennis yesterday. British Columbia, with Chris Herd.

:07:49. > :07:59.But you are never tempted to marry him. That is a little personal,

:08:00. > :08:05.isn't it? LAUGHTER A great moment for their families as

:08:06. > :08:11.well. We tend to forget the sacrifices that parents make, all

:08:12. > :08:16.those hours of driving their kids to tournaments, all the practice

:08:17. > :08:28.sessions. Rewarded at moments like these.

:08:29. > :08:32.Confirmation, then, that Chris and Gabby Adcock have won the gold

:08:33. > :08:42.medal, beating Chris Langridge and Heather Olver, 21-9, 21-12.

:08:43. > :08:50.A clean sweep for the home nations, gold and silver for England, and

:08:51. > :08:54.bronze. And. Only the eighth badminton medal Scotland have ever

:08:55. > :09:37.won in Commonwealth Games competition.

:09:38. > :09:51.The medals will presented by the vice president of Commonwealth Games

:09:52. > :09:52.Scotland, and the quaich by the technical director of the

:09:53. > :10:20.International Badminton Federation. The winners of the runs medal,

:10:21. > :10:28.Scotland! Robert Blair and Imogen Bankier. -- bronze medal. Image in a

:10:29. > :10:32.World Cup silver medallist with Chris Adcock in 2011. They played in

:10:33. > :10:37.the Olympics together but underperformed. She went back to

:10:38. > :10:42.Scotland and found a new partner, Robert Blair, a former medallist in

:10:43. > :10:44.Commonwealth Games, playing for England but born in Edinburgh. He

:10:45. > :11:19.has come home as well. The winners of the silver medal,

:11:20. > :11:22.England! Represented by Chris Langridge and Heather Olver, a

:11:23. > :11:26.brilliant win over the Malaysians in the semifinals but to be honest,

:11:27. > :11:29.outclassed in the final. Represented by Heather Olver. And Chris

:11:30. > :11:53.Langridge. The quaich is made from the Glasgow

:11:54. > :12:05.Celtic, and they look beautiful. -- from the glove on Elm -- Glasgow,

:12:06. > :12:10.Elm. And the Commonwealth champions, England! Chris and Gabby Adcock did

:12:11. > :12:11.not lose a game throughout the tournament, the outstanding mixed

:12:12. > :12:49.doubles pair of the competition. Very well done to them and a

:12:50. > :12:52.flourish of medals for the home nations on the final day of the

:12:53. > :12:56.Commonwealth Games. As promised, we will be going back to Scotstoun from

:12:57. > :12:59.all I've squash, this time the mixed doubles but before we get there,

:13:00. > :13:08.here is a quick reminder of the rules involved.

:13:09. > :13:14.Squash is a fast moving game which requires skill, speed and supreme

:13:15. > :13:20.fitness. It is played on a four walls caught with a small, hollow

:13:21. > :13:22.rubber ball. The basic principle is to keep hitting the ball against the

:13:23. > :13:27.front wall until your opponent cannot get it back any more. When

:13:28. > :13:32.serving, players must keep one foot in the service box. The ball must

:13:33. > :13:35.hit the wall between the service line and the outline, landing behind

:13:36. > :13:40.the short line on the opposite side of the court. For the remainder of

:13:41. > :13:45.the rally, players have to hit the wall above the board, also known as

:13:46. > :13:48.the tin, and below the outline. The ball was only allowed to hit the

:13:49. > :13:53.floor once before each shot but it can hit as many walls as the player

:13:54. > :13:58.wants. If a player is impeded or one-sided final opponent, they can

:13:59. > :14:07.ask for a let. The referee may order the point to be replayed or award it

:14:08. > :14:12.to the player affected. For a player to win again, they must reach 11

:14:13. > :14:16.points. At the Commonwealth Games, there are men's and women's single

:14:17. > :14:18.events plus three double competitions including men, women

:14:19. > :14:33.and mixed fares. There is home nation interest as

:14:34. > :14:39.well here. Their opponents are David Palmer and Rachael Grinham. It has

:14:40. > :14:42.already started, let's join our commentators, Susan Rose and Simon

:14:43. > :15:00.Reed. COMMENTATOR: Women taking their

:15:01. > :15:10.place on the bright court which is traditionally their place. Very much

:15:11. > :15:15.so. This is a very traditional way. Waite why the forehand court rather

:15:16. > :15:20.than the backhand? Lynn it is the ball's comfortable side -- it is the

:15:21. > :15:30.more comfortable side. You have a little bit more consistency. It is a

:15:31. > :15:43.little easier on the forehand side and gives it a bit more consistency.

:15:44. > :15:49.It is fascinating, I come from a background of tennis where in mixed

:15:50. > :15:53.doubles, it is about 80% the man rather than the woman. He can play a

:15:54. > :15:59.really dominant part and it is not the case in squash mixed doubles. It

:16:00. > :16:03.is not the case at all, the women will try to freeze the men out of

:16:04. > :16:06.the game because they are the more powerful of the pairings. But if it

:16:07. > :16:10.the game because they are the more does become very warm and dominant,

:16:11. > :16:12.the men will start to encroach on their side of the court to try to

:16:13. > :16:55.interrupt play. Lucky. I don't think it was the

:16:56. > :17:06.cleanest of hits from Barker but it was just what he wanted.

:17:07. > :17:09.Fascinating, Barker used to go to the British Open as a spectator and

:17:10. > :17:14.got bored, you did not really fancy it, and things conspired and now he

:17:15. > :17:16.just loves being a professional player. I bet he is glad he changed

:17:17. > :18:13.his mind. Cracking rally. The Australians

:18:14. > :18:21.deserve the point. They get the let, I think they are a little fortunate.

:18:22. > :18:25.For me as well. It caught his racket slightly but I think the quality of

:18:26. > :18:28.the shot was just too good. They played the point so well. Palmer and

:18:29. > :18:43.Grinham. Again, a little bit of extra

:18:44. > :19:16.imagination from Rachael Grinham. Beautiful. They started very

:19:17. > :19:19.impressively, the Australians. I did not expect anything less to be

:19:20. > :19:23.honest. They are such an attacking pair and if you leave anything

:19:24. > :20:34.open, the slightest bit, you are in trouble.

:20:35. > :20:42.Again, a superb rally. Much more imagination from the England duo but

:20:43. > :20:48.was not a brilliant finish? Just superb, I love the way they play.

:20:49. > :20:51.They construct the rally and they look for the opening and they take

:20:52. > :21:14.it. It is such an example of how to play doubles.

:21:15. > :21:26.Nasty clash. They will be some housekeeping here. I am not sure he

:21:27. > :21:32.is seriously injured but they got very tangled up, Grinham and Barker.

:21:33. > :21:36.I think it is the shock. It is more a case of jumping out of the way, I

:21:37. > :21:45.think he just slipped rather than getting hit. CHUCKLES

:21:46. > :21:56.Just got tapped on the back of the leg but he was off balance. Yes. He

:21:57. > :22:01.is not one to milk it. Especially being hit by a woman! CHUCKLES

:22:02. > :23:34.But smiles now and he is fine. APPLAUSE

:23:35. > :23:42.Prince Albert of Monaco there, on the right. Just wondering if there

:23:43. > :24:14.will be a big squash tournament coming in Monte Carlo.

:24:15. > :24:25.Let called. She did have a chance of getting it but obviously felt it

:24:26. > :24:47.would not have been as good a shot as it might have been.

:24:48. > :24:56.Barker turning almost 360, but there was danger there with Palmer just in

:24:57. > :25:02.front of him. A run of nets at the moment. The

:25:03. > :25:25.front of him. A run of nets at the points clear. -- a run of let's.

:25:26. > :25:30.Two wonderful shots from Alison Waters and Grinham very close to

:25:31. > :25:34.getting it up but just too tight to the wall. Good play

:25:35. > :25:40.getting it up but just too tight to that mid-court area. If

:25:41. > :25:44.getting it up but just too tight to she will look to take it in or

:25:45. > :25:46.possibly hold an snapped her wrist through an push for the drive, which

:25:47. > :26:08.is also very hard to get. Barker disappointed with that. In

:26:09. > :26:08.position and the Barker disappointed with that. In

:26:09. > :26:36.two points clear. They did well, pushing Waters to the

:26:37. > :26:39.back, not They did well, pushing Waters to the

:26:40. > :26:44.on it. The lead is as big as They did well, pushing Waters to the

:26:45. > :27:39.been. This is best of three games, remember.

:27:40. > :27:46.Great shot from Grinham, perfect length. You can take such a good

:27:47. > :27:52.length on this court, if you hit it flat, it keeps the bounce down, so

:27:53. > :27:56.it does not sit up. She is slightly over the top of the ball and it

:27:57. > :28:08.keeps the banks down and it is hard for it to come out at the back of

:28:09. > :28:14.the court. -- keeps the bounce down. The ball is slower coming out of the

:28:15. > :28:17.bat. It can get caught tight in the back corners. The white ball does

:28:18. > :28:54.not tend to bounce as much of the traditional black ball.

:28:55. > :29:04.said there was a touch as he played the shot.

:29:05. > :29:17.He gets what he wants. Just on the back swing, I think. Certainly no

:29:18. > :29:22.criticism from the Australians. That is much better from Barker. This is

:29:23. > :29:26.better news for the English pair. Very good play from Peter Barker.

:29:27. > :29:31.David Palmer came over to take the forehand shot. He thought he was

:29:32. > :29:34.going to have to cover the backhand side again and Peter took advantage

:29:35. > :29:43.of that, straight back into the forehand side.

:29:44. > :31:03.So, the 3-point lead the Australians had has disappeared.

:31:04. > :31:35.Waters, stretching but just could not get there.

:31:36. > :31:47.Super length. Well played. Incredible play. I mean, great

:31:48. > :31:50.teamwork from England, there. Peter Barker covering and Alison Waters

:31:51. > :31:58.missed the crosscourt. But then David Palmer, can you believe he is

:31:59. > :32:04.38? He is just so nimble. So fast to see the opportunity, and clinical

:32:05. > :32:06.with the finish. Remarkable. Barker is rapid but he could not get there.

:32:07. > :33:10.To gain points. Super. They were the dominant pair.

:33:11. > :33:20.The English did will to counter but in the end, it is Palmer and Grinham

:33:21. > :33:23.who take the opening game, 11-8. And it is deserved because they were the

:33:24. > :33:28.team looking for more opportunities and getting them. I think so. I have

:33:29. > :33:32.no doubt they would always go out and beat the attacking pair but I

:33:33. > :33:35.think England did really well to come back. They started to find

:33:36. > :33:39.their feet a bit more and they were a little traditional to start with

:33:40. > :33:44.but they realised they needed to start attacking. It is the attacking

:33:45. > :33:47.play that sometimes, if you don't win of that first attack, it opens

:33:48. > :33:53.up the court for the finishing attack after it. You have to use the

:33:54. > :33:59.court, the space. It is a big court, lots of spaces to hit and you have

:34:00. > :34:01.to use them. A lot of noise in the arena but let's see if we can pick

:34:02. > :34:30.up a little bit of his coaching. Some of the action from earlier on.

:34:31. > :34:36.It was a very good first game and the English were playing well. As

:34:37. > :34:49.the game evolved. But a terrific finish. Both the Australians looking

:34:50. > :34:50.for openings in the front court. And Palmer in particular. Excellent at

:34:51. > :35:06.putting them away. Super length from Grinham. What has

:35:07. > :35:10.already been a good day for the Australians, Cameron Pilley and

:35:11. > :35:14.Kasey Brown taking the bronze medal. In the mixed doubles. And it could

:35:15. > :35:41.get a whole lot better. Do you think the English have got to

:35:42. > :35:43.do anything tactically different in this second game? I think the way

:35:44. > :35:47.they finished the first game was the they finished the first game was the

:35:48. > :35:52.way to play. I wonder if they will come out and tried to steady the

:35:53. > :35:56.ship. And just go a bit more, straight drive, then possibly some

:35:57. > :36:03.down the middle. We will have to see.

:36:04. > :36:08.down the middle. We will have to light coming in on the far side and

:36:09. > :36:15.that is what Peter Barker was looking for, to get that stopped.

:36:16. > :36:17.Any destruction, obviously impinges on the play, so he we go in game

:36:18. > :36:41.number two. -- here we go. Wonderful finish from Rachael

:36:42. > :36:47.Grinham. She is just a star. I am so impressed with her, I have watched

:36:48. > :36:59.him play for many years. For 37 years of age, she is just such a

:37:00. > :37:11.super player. She is not sure. She is looking up for a replay. There it

:37:12. > :37:17.is. It was touch and go. She obviously felt it, sometimes you do

:37:18. > :37:21.not know, when it is that close. Sometimes, I think generally as a

:37:22. > :37:26.player, you do know, but there is the decision when you are never

:37:27. > :37:57.quite sure. But you certainly push it. Most

:37:58. > :38:25.A rare, and full error from Grinham. --

:38:26. > :38:31.Wow. What a fantastic shot that was from Peter Barker. Superb on that

:38:32. > :38:35.side of the court, it is the backhand for most players but Peter

:38:36. > :38:43.is a left-hander so it is his forehand and a great opportunity

:38:44. > :38:46.when they come up. A couple of errors now from Grinham. The English

:38:47. > :39:18.with a two point lead. Well played. Grinham just clipping

:39:19. > :39:42.Waters as she came through. A 5-1 lead now for Waters and

:39:43. > :40:04.Barker. This is sensational stuff from the

:40:05. > :40:08.English. They have come out attacking and I think that is the

:40:09. > :40:14.key thing. They had a couple of gifts from Rachael Grinham. They

:40:15. > :40:21.always help. Certainly, the English pair attacking a lot more.

:40:22. > :40:29.Not that time, he was on a roll, you can understand why he went for it.

:40:30. > :40:30.When it is going well for you, you tend to pick up momentum and you

:40:31. > :40:52.want to do it more. Right through the legs of Rachael

:40:53. > :42:16.Grinham. A low shot for the English. No clear tactics in that rally but

:42:17. > :42:49.beautifully crafted shotmaking. The Aussies starting to claw their

:42:50. > :43:32.way back into this game. Just a thought, David Palmer is in

:43:33. > :43:37.the next gold medal match, the men's doubles. There is not a

:43:38. > :43:46.thought of him holding anything back for that? Until that match is over,

:43:47. > :43:47.that will not even come into his mind, he will not even be thinking

:43:48. > :44:04.about it. Great length. Perfect way to see how good it was,

:44:05. > :44:43.four points clear now. Much shorter rallies. One rally in

:44:44. > :44:52.the men's bronze medal, lasted four and a half minutes. These four are

:44:53. > :45:01.much more attack minded. Again, super length. Allison is having a

:45:02. > :45:04.lot of success without other moment, she has had a couple down the

:45:05. > :45:09.forehand side and a couple on the crosscourt. Hitting it quite flat so

:45:10. > :45:48.there is no bounce and so difficult to get back.

:45:49. > :45:57.Waters impeding Grinham as she came through.

:45:58. > :45:59.They should have a handle on this match now, they are looking really

:46:00. > :46:22.good. She could not quite get round Alison

:46:23. > :47:18.Waters, Grinham Fer. -- there. Alison Waters setting it up, but

:47:19. > :48:26.they have just missed a couple now. The lead is reduced by one.

:48:27. > :48:35.Parma in the way of Barker. -- David Palmer. Plenty of discussion

:48:36. > :48:44.coming from tennis, they mask their words with their mouth, the hand in

:48:45. > :48:47.front of the mouth, but from the other side of the court, they are

:48:48. > :48:52.only about four feet away and they are having an open discussion. It is

:48:53. > :48:57.not quite open. It is not a conversation. They do it quite

:48:58. > :48:59.discreetly. But you are so busy concentrating on what you are doing

:49:00. > :49:04.that you don't necessarily listen to that you don't necessarily listen to

:49:05. > :49:06.about. You are too busy with your own tactics. It mystifies me, in

:49:07. > :49:10.tennis, own tactics. It mystifies me, in

:49:11. > :49:13.totally different language own tactics. It mystifies me, in

:49:14. > :49:41.opponents. Maybe it is for the viewers at home. Two points away,

:49:42. > :49:54.She steadied herself, fires it right from Rachael Grinham.

:49:55. > :50:04.She steadied herself, fires it right down the wall.

:50:05. > :50:11.Yes, she can play those behind the back shots. We have seen one

:50:12. > :50:30.earlier. Every chance of getting to it.

:50:31. > :50:36.Palmer, as he watched that, he just looked like he was going to try to

:50:37. > :50:39.slap it into the crosscourt nick. He literally just changed the direction

:50:40. > :50:44.and popped it in which is why Peter Barker was standing slightly back.

:50:45. > :51:17.It is all about fractions of seconds. The reactions are so quick.

:51:18. > :51:29.Oh, sensational shot from David Palmer. And what a time to produce

:51:30. > :53:00.it. The lead, which was four, is now down to one.

:53:01. > :53:06.Yes! APPLAUSE Peter Barker with the finish, after

:53:07. > :53:21.such a gruelling rally. It was good play from Barker. He

:53:22. > :53:24.used the more central part of the court, just whipping behind Rachael

:53:25. > :53:31.Grinham, just too quick to get a racket on it. Two gain points, for

:53:32. > :54:53.Barker and Waters. -- game points. APPLAUSE

:54:54. > :55:01.Great rally. Quality written all over it. Just remarkable. You know,

:55:02. > :55:08.if people at home watching doubles for the first time, this is such a

:55:09. > :55:13.great example of how to play, a lot of attacking play, defending my

:55:14. > :55:20.necessary, you know, great pick-ups and athleticism. -- where necessary.

:55:21. > :55:54.It has just got it all. Still game ball.

:55:55. > :56:17.And obvious let, there, for David Palmer. No way through.

:56:18. > :56:27.It is so tight. Remember, if the Aussies win this point, it is then

:56:28. > :56:31.match point, for them, because it is sudden death. It is either game

:56:32. > :56:39.point, for England, or the title for the Australians.

:56:40. > :56:57.Alison Waters, getting tucked up. This is it, match point and game

:56:58. > :57:02.point. The pressure is on now for the English pair. They really have

:57:03. > :57:09.got to hold their nerve, nothing silly, nothing cheap. Just pure

:57:10. > :58:20.concentration. Who is going to be brave?

:58:21. > :58:21.these. Nobody wants to give an inch, here. Nobody wants to make a

:58:22. > :58:49.mistake. Can you imagine how he's feeling,

:58:50. > :58:50.David Palmer? He came out of retirement, just to win the gold,

:58:51. > :59:11.here. David Palmer did not think it was

:59:12. > :59:22.up. APPLAUSE And Barker act sets that. How

:59:23. > :59:25.sporting is that? -- accepts that. Congratulations to David Palmer

:59:26. > :59:32.sporting is that? -- accepts that. Rachael Grinham. Gold medallists,

:59:33. > :59:36.here in the mixed doubles. And David Palmer, who has won everything in

:59:37. > :59:38.squash, including two world opens, as now, at last, got the gold medal

:59:39. > :59:58.in the Commonwealth Games. performance. Yes, I mean, I feel

:59:59. > :00:01.terribly sad for the English pair. I thought they stuck in well. I think

:00:02. > :00:04.they found thought they stuck in well. I think

:00:05. > :00:10.through the first game. They did everything they could. They had game

:00:11. > :00:14.point in the second game. They did do everything. I am very sad for

:00:15. > :00:18.them but I'm also delighted the David Palmer and Rachael Grinham. Of

:00:19. > :00:20.course, David getting the gold that he has never won before. I think

:00:21. > :00:26.they put on such a good display he has never won before. I think

:00:27. > :00:29.they got it right. They spent the whole match trying to look for the

:00:30. > :00:34.opening, and took it when they got the chance. To be honest, the only

:00:35. > :00:38.time they really steadied and played line and length was when they were

:00:39. > :00:44.at match point. They did not want to make a mistake and they waited for

:00:45. > :00:49.the mistake to come. Fortunately, David got the opportunity to

:00:50. > :00:50.the mistake to come. Fortunately, squash. Delighted for them but still

:00:51. > :01:07.very sad for the English pair. Some incredible rallies, no gold for

:01:08. > :01:09.England but nonetheless, congratulations to Peter Barker and

:01:10. > :01:12.Alison Waters on picking up silver in the mixed doubles of the Swatch.

:01:13. > :01:16.That is the penultimate gold medal available at Scotstoun. Coming up

:01:17. > :01:20.shortly, the final of the men's doubles, and we will be talking to

:01:21. > :01:26.Matthew Pinsent in a short while. Let's break from our coverage on BBC

:01:27. > :01:27.Three for a quick update on the news. See you in a couple of

:01:28. > :01:31.minutes. We've got factory boys and butchers'

:01:32. > :01:34.apprentices and office clerks Don't stop moving!

:01:35. > :01:40.If you go back you'll die! Back to Glasgow

:02:30. > :02:33.appeared in the New York Times. It's a first for the marijuana

:02:36. > :02:39.US States. America's witnessed its biggest

:02:40. > :02:43.ever football crowd seen. What's more it was a friendly

:02:44. > :02:46.and not a US team. Manchester United beat Real Madrid

:02:47. > :02:48.in Michigan. More later,

:02:49. > :02:50.right now back to the live action Yeah, I am looking for

:02:51. > :02:57.a Prince Charming. I don't think I'm ugly, but I don't

:02:58. > :03:01.think I'm, like, really pretty. I say, "You've got something

:03:02. > :04:32.on your bum." "Really?" And I say, COMMENTATOR: Stimpson of England

:04:33. > :04:39.wins the first gold of the day. He is just realising what he has done.

:04:40. > :05:33.A Star is born here. It is gold! Some great scenes and some great

:05:34. > :05:37.highlights over the last 11 days of the 2014 Commonwealth Games in

:05:38. > :05:42.Glasgow. I am at last pretty relieved to tell you that the

:05:43. > :05:48.weather has improved here at Pacific key, even the sun made an appearance

:05:49. > :05:51.and a welcome one at that. The rain has definitely stopped, it is still

:05:52. > :05:55.a little blustery but the important thing is, it is dry. People are out

:05:56. > :06:01.and about and mingling and having a good time. As I mentioned earlier,

:06:02. > :06:06.we are concentrating solely on the squash for the time being because it

:06:07. > :06:12.has been a busy day at Scotstoun. Four medals I think it is, up for

:06:13. > :06:17.grabs. Let's talk to Matthew Pinsent who is at Scotstoun for us. The

:06:18. > :06:22.squash does not feature on the itinerary as far as the Olympics

:06:23. > :06:26.goes, you have been there for a few days, how has it been? Because of

:06:27. > :06:30.course they want to deliver the best squash they can give on a global

:06:31. > :06:36.scale. What have you made of the last few days? I think it has been a

:06:37. > :06:41.privilege to watch this sport up close. It is very dramatic. You can

:06:42. > :06:45.see the glass box out there. The atmosphere at Scotstoun has been

:06:46. > :06:49.wonderful. For these players, they continually come off court and say

:06:50. > :06:55.this is the highest competition they get. The most important competition.

:06:56. > :06:59.Squash has flirted with the Olympics, applied several times for

:07:00. > :07:03.Olympic status and always been rebuffed. I know for many of the

:07:04. > :07:07.players it is a continual disappointment. But this is their

:07:08. > :07:12.sport, their biggest showcase. England particularly have made the

:07:13. > :07:17.most of it. Coming up shortly, we have the final gold medal matches,

:07:18. > :07:24.men's doubles matches and there is a real sense of d?j? vu? Absolutely.

:07:25. > :07:30.We have Nick Matthew and Adrian Grant going for England. They are

:07:31. > :07:35.defending champions from Delhi in 2010. England have never lost the

:07:36. > :07:42.men's doubles in Commonwealth history. That has been four gold

:07:43. > :07:46.medals up until this point. We are hoping to see an England gold medal.

:07:47. > :07:53.England have performed brilliantly here in squash at the moment, they

:07:54. > :07:57.are sitting on eight medals and in Delhi, there was a total of six

:07:58. > :08:03.which was their previous best. Two gold in Delhi So'oialo hoping to go

:08:04. > :08:08.from one gold here at the moment, eight medals in total, 22-mac gold

:08:09. > :08:11.and nine which would be a great result. Particularly for Nick

:08:12. > :08:18.Matthew. Might remember watching him in singles if you days ago. England

:08:19. > :08:25.Squash absolutely predominant at the moment. Thanks very much. The men's

:08:26. > :08:32.doubles coming up shortly. It is the fifth consecutive time that England

:08:33. > :08:35.take on Australia in the men's doubles final. When we talk about

:08:36. > :08:39.football, we talk about people and are taking all sorts of challenges

:08:40. > :08:41.like visiting the 92 league clubs up and down the country, across the

:08:42. > :08:46.various football leagues. like visiting the 92 league clubs up

:08:47. > :08:50.and down the country, across They are 71 nations and territories

:08:51. > :08:53.involved as far as the Commonwealth Games are concerned and Ollie

:08:54. > :08:56.Williams has made it his challenge to meet and speak to at least one

:08:57. > :09:07.athlete from every nation taking part. This is how he got on.

:09:08. > :09:14.You are the first athlete we have found, the first member of the 71

:09:15. > :09:18.club. You are no stranger to Glasgow? Jemma I can put on the

:09:19. > :09:24.accent! I have been here for 14 years. Number three. Are you related

:09:25. > :09:26.accent! I have been here for 14 to Alistair and Jonny Brownlee? Yes,

:09:27. > :09:28.he is! to Alistair and Jonny Brownlee? Yes,

:09:29. > :10:03.freestyle here and you did not. Jersey. I am a part-time pin

:10:04. > :10:06.collector. For the Bahamas. I step onto the blocks and I know I have

:10:07. > :10:12.the whole nation behind me. So I have nothing to fear. They are so

:10:13. > :10:20.proud of you. Good luck for the rest of Glasgow. The 71 club starts here

:10:21. > :10:28.at the weightlifting. How do you keep a lid on it when you are

:10:29. > :10:34.actually lifting. I do my left and I put it down and then it is party

:10:35. > :10:40.time. What is your next ambition, Rio? Why not? I have been

:10:41. > :10:49.sidetracked at Scotstoun by squash. We have the whole England team here.

:10:50. > :11:03.They are fresh off the court, who won? Weeded! -- we did.

:11:04. > :11:12.If you are coming to the shooting at Carnoustie, be prepared for a little

:11:13. > :11:16.bit of a walk. You have to go through a hole golf course to get

:11:17. > :11:23.there. I'm lucky my good man. You know this place very well. I spent a

:11:24. > :11:29.number of years here with the army. Some not so good believe you me!

:11:30. > :11:39.Shooting really well but the scores do not reflect that at the moment.

:11:40. > :11:45.You are now a member of my 71 club. I and seven time world champion, six

:11:46. > :11:51.time Olympian. And flag bearer as well. A fabulous experience. When

:11:52. > :11:55.the morning goes wrong, it is hard to deal with as an athlete? It is

:11:56. > :12:00.but I would not be here if I did not have passion. With the good of the

:12:01. > :12:11.passion, there is the sad of the Passion. We live in the Pacific

:12:12. > :12:15.between Tonga and Samoa. A lot of people hunt for food. Pigeon and

:12:16. > :12:31.flame Fox on the menu. Behold the coconut! Do you wish your

:12:32. > :12:36.parents had named you slightly differently? I am happy people named

:12:37. > :12:42.as that because people always get confused. We switched class once, I

:12:43. > :12:55.went into his and he went into mine. We could not work out which one was

:12:56. > :13:22.which when we took the photo! I love it here, the people make us

:13:23. > :13:31.go. You are an air traffic controller? The airport is not as

:13:32. > :13:40.busy as Heathrow! Did you have a cheeky look left and right? I was a

:13:41. > :13:49.little bit shaky. You were very quick today.

:13:50. > :13:54.What is the experience like having tens of thousands of people out

:13:55. > :14:01.there while you are competing? I found it very exciting. The people

:14:02. > :14:07.really helped actually. I will be delicate, everyone here is over a

:14:08. > :14:17.certain age aren't they? Jemma we are. Under 40? May be! My handlebars

:14:18. > :14:26.came loose and it is a case of hanging on tight. I only started

:14:27. > :14:31.cycling last year. I have never done anything on this scale before. She

:14:32. > :14:44.works as a hypnotherapist and owns her own company. Gold Coast 2018? Is

:14:45. > :14:56.there a Zimmer frame rates? ! -- race. I play table tennis.

:14:57. > :15:08.We have the skills but what we lack is confidence. Our Internet is very

:15:09. > :15:42.slow. How many athletes from the Outer

:15:43. > :15:50.Hebrides? One! Is it strange to be back here, if you days ago, you were

:15:51. > :15:54.racing just down here. The slalom was ten he pulled deep and people

:15:55. > :15:57.were shouting my name, it is rubbish year-to-date! -- it is rubbish here

:15:58. > :16:12.today. My dad reckoned we were brought up

:16:13. > :16:19.in a croft and we used to tend sheep. And he said the kids would

:16:20. > :16:25.run for miles rounding up sheep. And that had a lot to do with my

:16:26. > :16:30.potential and my aptitude for endurance sport.

:16:31. > :16:44.Thank you dad, I am here now! Well done, Lee Williams, he deserves a

:16:45. > :16:48.medal of his own for getting across all 71 athletes from all of the

:16:49. > :16:53.nations from different nations and territories, that have taken part at

:16:54. > :16:57.the common wealth games. A little earlier, if you have been watching

:16:58. > :17:01.on BBC Three, we are featuring a lot of squash from Scotstoun sports

:17:02. > :17:04.campus. We saw the mixed doubles in action earlier, where England's

:17:05. > :17:08.Peter Barker and Alison Waters fell just short of winning gold. They

:17:09. > :17:11.come away with silver. Let's hear how they felt about how the contest

:17:12. > :17:20.went against their Australian opponents. Allison, Peter, silver

:17:21. > :17:24.medal, congratulations. Yes, I mean, that was a pretty good match.

:17:25. > :17:27.Obviously, we are disappointed to have lost but I thought we played

:17:28. > :17:31.very well. To come away with a silver medal, at the start of the

:17:32. > :17:36.week, we would have taken it. We put up a good performance and we are

:17:37. > :17:39.both really pleased. It has been a great week. Peter, there was a

:17:40. > :17:45.moment in the second game when you had a nice lead. Any change of

:17:46. > :17:52.tactics? Did you want to do more of the same? More of the same. Credit

:17:53. > :17:55.to the other team. You know, we came off and I'm disappointed to lose but

:17:56. > :18:01.I'm not disappointed with the way we played. Credit to them, they played

:18:02. > :18:05.really well. I thought it was the best we have played all week,

:18:06. > :18:09.actually. We have got progressively better. It was not to be. It is such

:18:10. > :18:15.a different dynamic, playing doubles. We play singles all the

:18:16. > :18:20.time. It has been really good fun. I have known out since I was ten. It

:18:21. > :18:25.has been a really good on to play with her this week. It has been

:18:26. > :18:28.brilliant. It did not go unnoticed that you definitely did not contest

:18:29. > :18:33.the last point, it was a straight off handshake. Yeah, I mean, I'm not

:18:34. > :18:38.going to start picking up doubles, when you know it is a double, it is

:18:39. > :18:43.a double. I wish my 30-year-old legs would move a bit quicker to get the

:18:44. > :18:49.ball. But they didn't. They won fair and square. Congratulations to them.

:18:50. > :18:57.Congratulations to Alison, because before this, she did not have a

:18:58. > :19:00.medal and now she has two. At one point, you almost in tears, talking

:19:01. > :19:04.to me after the singles particularly. What a turnaround this

:19:05. > :19:10.week. Yes, I was, the single did not go to plan but to come away a bronze

:19:11. > :19:13.and a silver, I'm delighted. I have really enjoyed playing with Peter

:19:14. > :19:20.this week. It has been lovely to watch you. Well done, guys. So, that

:19:21. > :19:24.was Peter Barker and Alison Waters, who come away from the Commonwealth

:19:25. > :19:28.Games with a silver medal in the mixed doubles, after coming unstuck

:19:29. > :19:32.in the final. Now these are the live pictures from Scotstoun. There's a

:19:33. > :19:36.bit of a delayed proceedings, for what is now going to be the final

:19:37. > :19:40.event in terms of squash. David Palmer, who came out with the gold

:19:41. > :19:44.medal with Rachael Grinham against Peter and Alison in the mixed

:19:45. > :19:50.doubles, will feature in this final as well, the men's doubles. He is

:19:51. > :19:53.getting a bit of treatment. He is getting a bit of rest as he tries

:19:54. > :19:58.for two gold medals in as many hours. Just to remind you, these are

:19:59. > :20:03.the defending champions, Adrian Grant and Nick Matthew of England,

:20:04. > :20:06.taking on the second seeds, David Palmer and Cameron Pilley, in the

:20:07. > :20:10.fifth successive England against Australia men's doubles final. David

:20:11. > :20:14.Palmer, the runner-up four years ago with a different partner, has come

:20:15. > :20:17.out of retirement to play his fifth Commonwealth Games and so far, it

:20:18. > :20:21.has proved a good decision because he is now the most X-rated squash

:20:22. > :20:25.player in Commonwealth Games history. After guaranteeing himself

:20:26. > :20:30.to more medals yesterday, taking his career tally to eight, Nick Matthew

:20:31. > :20:36.is going for the double double after retaining his singles title six days

:20:37. > :20:39.ago. They are warming up. -- the most decorated squash player in

:20:40. > :20:40.Commonwealth Games history, David Palmer. Let's get to the

:20:41. > :21:10.commentators. The men's doubles gold medal match.

:21:11. > :21:14.Commentator there is Adrian Grant, part of the team with Nick Matthew

:21:15. > :21:18.who won in Delhi. A good singles player, who has been wracked in the

:21:19. > :21:27.top 20, fifth in the world open in 2008, and now ranked 22. -- who has

:21:28. > :21:31.been ranked in the top 20. Obviously, this is a huge occasion

:21:32. > :21:36.for him, as it is for Nick Matthew, who will be mustard keen to rack up

:21:37. > :21:40.another gold medal. Absolutely. He is used to tasting gold. He knows

:21:41. > :21:45.what it feels like. Also for him, he will want to retain his title. These

:21:46. > :21:48.guys won the gold medal in Delhi. He already has a gold medal in these

:21:49. > :21:55.championships but he will want to do it for his team-mate as well.

:21:56. > :22:05.That is how they came through. The quarterfinal against the Welsh pair

:22:06. > :22:09.of greed and Evans, and then a much tougher one against Alan Clyne and

:22:10. > :22:14.Harry Leitch that went all the way. -- of Creed and Evans. It was

:22:15. > :22:17.getting progressively more difficult, as it should do, as the

:22:18. > :22:23.tournament unfolded. The England coaching team. Kris

:22:24. > :22:33.Robertson in charge. So, The England coaching team. Kris

:22:34. > :22:39.have had their two minutes to warm up and now

:22:40. > :22:40.have had their two minutes to warm number two seed from Australia. --

:22:41. > :23:03.seeds. Let's have a look at these two. This

:23:04. > :23:08.is their run-through. Round of 16, and then a quarterfinal against

:23:09. > :23:10.Scott Crawford and Greg Lobban of Scotland, and the semifinal against

:23:11. > :23:25.Daryl Selby and James Willstrop. And various David Palmer, already a

:23:26. > :23:41.gold medallist, The most decorated male

:23:42. > :23:46.player of all time in the Commonwealth Games. This will be his

:23:47. > :23:57.eighth medal. But he never had a gold until half an hour ago.

:23:58. > :24:02.He will be playing alongside Cameron Pilley, 31 years old. He lives in

:24:03. > :24:13.Holland now. But already, two bronze medals,

:24:14. > :24:19.winning the bronze in the mixed with Katie Brown -- Kasey Brown. But is

:24:20. > :24:34.it going to be gold or silver, here? LAUGHTER

:24:35. > :24:44.They are greedy. Greedy and cynical. But good fun with it. APPLAUSE

:24:45. > :24:50.The bronze medal match was a bit door, to put it bluntly. -- a bit

:24:51. > :24:54.dour. Full of attrition and long rallies. Do you say the same thing

:24:55. > :25:00.here? I don't think so. These guys hit the ball very hard. The English

:25:01. > :25:03.team I try to use those tactics. They were successful with that in

:25:04. > :25:10.the semifinal. I think they might feel as though possibly they could

:25:11. > :25:14.use attrition to win the games, and then let Adrian Grant's forehand do

:25:15. > :25:19.the talking when there are loose shorts. That combination has worked

:25:20. > :25:22.well for them. -- loose shots. But the Australians will use page to

:25:23. > :25:25.create chaos in the middle of the court and then take advantage of the

:25:26. > :25:29.space. And they are big guys, they are going to stand up and get in the

:25:30. > :25:34.way of Nick Matthew and Adrian Grant. I love that phrase, creating

:25:35. > :25:37.chaos. It seems to me that it is exactly the phrase that works. It is

:25:38. > :25:41.not so much going into space but finding space because there is none

:25:42. > :25:45.there, but if you create people who are unhinged, moving in the wrong

:25:46. > :25:49.direction, you suddenly have a chance. You try to hit the ball into

:25:50. > :25:54.your opponent 's body and feet, try to put it in the middle sometimes,

:25:55. > :25:57.create confusion, get both players going for the ball. Communication is

:25:58. > :26:01.a big part of doubles. You need to communicate but when the ball comes

:26:02. > :26:04.into the middle, especially at the front of the court, both players

:26:05. > :26:09.cannot rely on communication. They have to go for it. That creates the

:26:10. > :26:11.space, and then you need the attacking mentality to take

:26:12. > :26:15.advantage immediately. That is why it is not always the best singles

:26:16. > :26:20.players which are the best doubles players. So we are ready to go, Nick

:26:21. > :26:25.Matthew with Adrian Grant, the reigning champions, the number one

:26:26. > :26:26.seeds, against David Palmer and Cameron Pilley, the number two

:26:27. > :26:43.seeds, from Australia. England to serve, best of three

:26:44. > :27:46.games. APPLAUSE

:27:47. > :27:50.There is that forehand that you are talking about. A little bit lucky,

:27:51. > :27:52.it clipped the top of the racket, not intending that shot but he is

:27:53. > :27:55.dangerous even when he reaches back on the court. That is normally a

:27:56. > :29:09.defensive position. Oh, yes, beautiful clipped burst

:29:10. > :29:15.from Parma, and then from Cameron Pilley. -- David Palmer. Young

:29:16. > :29:21.Cameron Pilley holds the record for the hardest hit of all time, 282

:29:22. > :29:22.kilometres per hour. You can see the kind of strength he used in that

:29:23. > :29:58.shot. They feel that was a little unlucky,

:29:59. > :30:03.the English. They have been careful up until now not to give away a soft

:30:04. > :30:06.let. That is a let that maybe would be a let in singles but in doubles,

:30:07. > :30:09.you want to try to make it continuous and more fun for the

:30:10. > :30:13.spectators, really putting the emphasis on getting the ball but we

:30:14. > :30:14.have seen and tighten up a little bit towards the latter stages of

:30:15. > :30:45.this tournament. Nick Matthew said he was induced by

:30:46. > :30:51.squash when he went along to see a squash match, and he loved the sound

:30:52. > :30:56.the ball made when it hit the wall. You can really hear that come here.

:30:57. > :30:58.A lot of it done by him. It is a very gratifying sound. -- you can

:30:59. > :32:05.really hear that, here. very much professional squash but it

:32:06. > :32:10.is not making for a great exhibition at the moment. The ball is quite

:32:11. > :32:19.warm at the moment and the harder these guys hit it, the warmer it

:32:20. > :32:23.will stay. It is very difficult to find that space right now when the

:32:24. > :32:27.ball is very warm. Cameron Pilley is actually standing back a little bit.

:32:28. > :32:30.That is one of his strengths. There is a lot of power when the ball set

:32:31. > :33:57.up, even off the back wall. Tried to do something a little bit

:33:58. > :34:06.different there, David Palmer. These first few rallies are very long.

:34:07. > :34:10.different there, David Palmer. These I think that is what we will see the

:34:11. > :34:14.Aussie team do after a while, first opportunity they get, they are going

:34:15. > :34:17.to take. The longer the rallies go, the more it will favour Matthew and

:34:18. > :34:50.Grant. Fantastic shot. Great shot from

:34:51. > :34:55.Grant. Creating that opportunity, a nice angle down the middle. A loose

:34:56. > :36:03.shot from Pilley and he cracks it across, beautiful shot.

:36:04. > :36:13.Just clipped Palmer on his way through so given the let, rant back.

:36:14. > :36:18.I am surprised more players do not do that. If a player has an easy

:36:19. > :36:24.shot at the front of the court, maybe he could just get in front of

:36:25. > :36:30.his swing and baby it will be a let. It was a nice opportunity for

:36:31. > :36:48.Grant. -- and maybe it will be a let.

:36:49. > :36:55.I think that is fair enough. That is really what the referees have been

:36:56. > :36:59.trying to do. If the ball comes down the middle, they are not going to

:37:00. > :37:07.give the players a soft let, the players have to play that ball. They

:37:08. > :37:08.do not like it. But it really did seem as if there was space for a

:37:09. > :37:47.shot. For once, Grant found wanting down

:37:48. > :38:07.that for handball. -- Grant found wanting down that forehand wall.

:38:08. > :38:17.Same again. He gets a let that time. Still, both teams just a little bit

:38:18. > :38:20.cagey and not really willing to take the attack on. At least not the

:38:21. > :38:42.extreme attack yet. A pity he did not think Matthew had

:38:43. > :38:57.got one up early on. A nice shot from Grant. He pulled

:38:58. > :39:03.Palmer a little bit away from the wall and he saw the space, and just

:39:04. > :39:08.punched his wrist past Palmer into the back of the court. That was the

:39:09. > :39:19.first shot he did not think Matthew had got up. I think you might have.

:39:20. > :39:24.-- I think he might have. That is one of David Palmer's best shots,

:39:25. > :39:29.his volley drop shot into the front left corner. But Grant is so quick

:39:30. > :39:33.in there so he can punch the ball down the line. Or he can snap the

:39:34. > :39:39.ball crosscourt or even play a little drop shot. So many options

:39:40. > :39:43.from that area, so David Palmer has to be quite careful. That is his go

:39:44. > :39:49.to area and he has to make sure when he goes for it, but it is going to

:39:50. > :40:16.be good. -- that it is going to be good.

:40:17. > :40:23.England had two chances to get the hit and could not make it and the

:40:24. > :40:27.Aussies find one themselves. The shorter the rallies are, the more

:40:28. > :40:34.the ball will slow down. And that will promote even further play at

:40:35. > :40:35.the front of the court, it will be a little bit more interesting for

:40:36. > :41:17.spectators at home. That must have felt a little

:41:18. > :41:18.vulnerable for the Englishman, two Aussies descending on him from

:41:19. > :42:44.either side. Is that a let? Another shot from

:42:45. > :42:48.Matthew into the middle to set things up there. Absolutely. And a

:42:49. > :42:54.nice little punch volley from Adrian Grant. It has been so successful for

:42:55. > :42:57.him throughout this event. A nice rally, the pace picked up a little

:42:58. > :43:05.bit, it is the middle of the game, 5-4. Whichever team manages a two

:43:06. > :43:13.point spread, can clean up the first game. A crucial time. Well played,

:43:14. > :43:21.Cameron Pilley. There was the chaos you were talking about earlier on.

:43:22. > :43:23.Lynn those little trickle boasts. Sending the ball even further into

:43:24. > :43:45.the middle, that side spin. It is nip and tuck

:43:46. > :44:13.through this early -middle part of the opening game.

:44:14. > :44:25.Great shot from Palmer. great 1-2-mac. Whacked crosscourt

:44:26. > :44:58.into the net and that is what makes doubles so great.

:44:59. > :45:06.Extraordinary precision down that wall.

:45:07. > :45:14.Then again from Palmer, he is having a hot streak right now, he is making

:45:15. > :45:18.the difference. The play goes over to the left wall and

:45:19. > :45:20.the difference. The play goes over has a chance, he did start in the

:45:21. > :45:24.front left corner but Adrian Grant was covering so now he has hit two

:45:25. > :45:53.in a row and that is crucial. Well

:45:54. > :45:57.intervention there. Quite a such slow ball by Palmer. A lot easier to

:45:58. > :46:02.play that kind of shocked when the ball comes very hard. It is just a

:46:03. > :46:08.reaction shot. But when the ball is dropping and slow, it is hard to

:46:09. > :46:09.control. Stopped a run of four successive points for the

:46:10. > :46:33.Australians. Yes. Huge forehand that time from

:46:34. > :46:37.Grant. A lot of variety up and down that left wall. We have seen before,

:46:38. > :46:39.a little drop shot and then he flips it around the outside of the ball to

:46:40. > :46:58.bring the ball back into the wall. So the standard is ready picking up

:46:59. > :47:03.now. Palmer and Grant the most players right now. -- the most

:47:04. > :48:25.influential players right now. Not quite. Cameron Pilley finishing

:48:26. > :48:31.on an error. It was a super Rally, full of innovation. Nice rally, a

:48:32. > :48:34.bit of cat and mouse Adrian Grant and David Palmer of the left side

:48:35. > :48:41.wall, the forehand for a drink and be backhand for David. Maybe fatigue

:48:42. > :49:23.is a factor, here, from playing his previous match.

:49:24. > :49:33.Nick Matthew and Adrian Grant, hoping to get away with that. The

:49:34. > :49:37.immediate applause, try to cover up the potential problem. It seems to

:49:38. > :49:40.be a tactic with the players to influence the referee. It was a nice

:49:41. > :49:42.shot from Adrian Grant but the ball sat up a little bit from Cameron

:49:43. > :50:39.Pilley. Another exhausting rally a terrific

:50:40. > :50:42.stretch from Nick Matthew. He had to be very steady on the right wall.

:50:43. > :50:45.He's not doing anything wrong but not doing anything spectacular right

:50:46. > :50:49.now. That is quite often what we see, one player playing one role,

:50:50. > :50:54.and the other playing the other role, the attacker and the defender.

:50:55. > :50:58.They seem to be majoring on the forehand side of Adrian Grant. Nick

:50:59. > :51:07.Matthew is probably only playing 25% of the balls. That is obviously part

:51:08. > :51:12.of the Aussies' plan. Palmer, not able to get down to the ball. He has

:51:13. > :51:16.a great shot crosscourt. The ball stayed very low, and that was a kill

:51:17. > :51:20.from Nick Matthew. But normally, Palmer just bends his lower back and

:51:21. > :51:22.stretches out to get the ball. So, England, two points away from taking

:51:23. > :52:06.the opening game. this game is not over. I love the

:52:07. > :52:10.way Palmer rolled over this shot. Very tight to the ball, just

:52:11. > :52:13.flicking his wrists up an over it, which again, brought the spin of the

:52:14. > :52:14.front wall, bringing it closer to the wall. This is the phenomenal

:52:15. > :53:07.shot. It just clicked Palmer, as it went

:53:08. > :53:30.through. -- clipped Palmer. LAUGHTER

:53:31. > :53:34.Never in doubt. There is a little bit of doubt with the players, about

:53:35. > :53:38.whether they should stop. A lot of them want to keep on going because

:53:39. > :53:53.they have had to let before. -- they have had no lets before. Again, a

:53:54. > :53:59.perfect length. Now we are tied up. It just would not come out. There is

:54:00. > :54:01.no team that is dominating the other right now. It is the odd point, here

:54:02. > :54:28.and there. A really good play from the

:54:29. > :54:31.English. Nick Matthew did that a couple of shots before, saw that

:54:32. > :54:35.Palmer was a bit slow to play at, and from the back of the cold this

:54:36. > :54:42.time, again, Palmer not quite ready to the shops. -- for the shot.

:54:43. > :55:00.England with game point. Yes, super shot from Palmer. I

:55:01. > :55:06.thought for a moment they might be going for a let. So, 10-10. It is

:55:07. > :56:01.sudden death, the next point wins the game.

:56:02. > :56:08.What a finish! Adrian Grant with one of his best forehand of the game.

:56:09. > :56:18.And it decides the game. of his best forehand of the game.

:56:19. > :56:23.forehands. 29 minutes, it took. But Adrian Grant with a touch of

:56:24. > :56:25.brilliance. It was not just Adrian Grant, obviously a great shot to

:56:26. > :56:30.finish off but Nick Matthew, right from the return of serve, started

:56:31. > :56:31.hammering the ball, every single shot crosscourt Palmer. That is what

:56:32. > :56:35.great sportsmen do, they when someone is a bit off ball.

:56:36. > :56:39.Maybe they are starting when someone is a bit off ball.

:56:40. > :56:43.fatigued and they are not playing in the same position.

:56:44. > :56:45.fatigued and they are not playing in rallies earlier, Nick Matthew scored

:56:46. > :56:48.two points with the low, hard crosscourt, dying into the side

:56:49. > :56:49.wall. He wanted to find the angle and humans did but

:56:50. > :56:52.wall. He wanted to find the angle back to play the loose shot and

:56:53. > :56:56.Grant put it away. Great back to play the loose shot and

:56:57. > :57:17.conviction, great way to play a big point from both of those guys.

:57:18. > :57:24.There was nothing in it. It looked for a lot of the game as if the

:57:25. > :57:27.Australians were the likely winners. Yes, it was Marie hard to pick a

:57:28. > :57:32.dominant team. It was good to see the English team being a bit more

:57:33. > :57:35.attacking than yesterday. -- it was very hard. They were very

:57:36. > :57:38.attritional against Scotland yesterday. Maybe not the most

:57:39. > :57:42.exciting match to watch but very effective. Today, we saw them really

:57:43. > :57:47.create a lot of pace when they needed it and then take their

:57:48. > :57:50.chances as well. A word about Nick Matthew, saying however when shall

:57:51. > :57:54.he was in the last point and he seems to be more influential in the

:57:55. > :57:57.match. He was almost being drained out of it because they were

:57:58. > :58:02.concentrating on grant so much, but as the game developed, he was much

:58:03. > :58:08.more of an influence. Especially the last rally, he got into it a bit

:58:09. > :58:11.more. Adrian Grant was seeing most of the ball. Nick's was to be very

:58:12. > :58:13.steady. But the weight he played the last one, he really forced

:58:14. > :58:20.involvement into the game and it was great to see. -- the way he played.

:58:21. > :58:25.And once more we see the super length from Palmer. While this goes

:58:26. > :58:34.on, it is extraordinary to think that only a few weeks ago, Nick

:58:35. > :58:38.Matthew Haddin the operation. -- had a knee operation. It seemed risky

:58:39. > :58:41.with the games in mind but he has obviously had the best advice

:58:42. > :58:45.because he has hardly had an easy way, winning the singles and now in

:58:46. > :58:47.the final match in the doubles. It has held up fine.

:58:48. > :58:50.the final match in the doubles. It has held It is most unbelievable,

:58:51. > :58:54.how he has managed to back up. Talking to these guys before, Nick

:58:55. > :58:59.Matthew, in his rehabilitation, most of it was off the court. It was only

:59:00. > :59:02.a week before the tournament, after four weeks out, that he started

:59:03. > :59:06.getting back onto court. So what he has done in the last couple of weeks

:59:07. > :59:10.is incredible. The format probably helps, in that you get weaker

:59:11. > :59:15.opponents earlier on so you can feel your way into it. That is a good

:59:16. > :59:19.point, the Commonwealth Games yield those kind of first and second round

:59:20. > :59:21.match ups even though it is incredibly tough towards the end. It

:59:22. > :59:28.would have allowed him to feel it out, as you say. What a fine into

:59:29. > :59:31.the game from Nick Matthew. Let's see how he goes in the second. -- a

:59:32. > :00:24.fine end to the game. not quite pick the length. Palmer is

:00:25. > :00:30.one of the most stubborn athletes in the world, 38 years of age right

:00:31. > :00:33.now, but you can see that his movement is a bit laboured

:00:34. > :00:39.sometimes, but when he only has one step to the ball, he is one of the

:00:40. > :00:43.most dangerous players, if not the most dangerous. And that is why.

:00:44. > :00:49.Exactly like that, he sees the opportunity and he is razor sharp in

:00:50. > :00:53.his delivery. This was important for the Australian team, you saw the

:00:54. > :00:57.Australian team bouncing literally, you could see the look in the eyes

:00:58. > :01:00.of Nick Matthew. They could see it and feel it, and now the Australians

:01:01. > :01:35.are stemming the momentum of the English team.

:01:36. > :01:47.UMPIRE: Down. Matthew, not the best start from You

:01:48. > :02:05.Me at Six at the start of this game. -- Grant. A winner out of nowhere

:02:06. > :02:08.from Matthew, there. Dad has been successful, he will play that shot

:02:09. > :02:14.realising that David Palmer is hanging back a bit. James Willstrop,

:02:15. > :02:43.who was beaten by Matthew of course in the final of the men's singles.

:02:44. > :03:17.He is allowed the odd mistake, Matthew. I think he was chancing it

:03:18. > :03:21.there, Palmer. You can see that the ball clips him as he goes to the

:03:22. > :03:38.back wall. There was no real interference, there. Not a happy

:03:39. > :04:05.bunny, David Palmer. The lead narrows to two.

:04:06. > :04:14.That was a great shot from Adrian Grant. When Adrian Grant steps over

:04:15. > :04:23.onto the forehand side, his left foot over, carving underneath the

:04:24. > :04:25.ball, steady every single time. It is lower, in doubles, just 13

:04:26. > :05:45.inches, and he took advantage there. That was a little bit ambitious

:05:46. > :05:52.there. It was ambitious but they need to do that, as soon as they

:05:53. > :05:57.feel that their movements are a bit more laboured than the English team,

:05:58. > :06:01.so maybe the emphasis on the Aussie team is to finish off the point of

:06:02. > :06:17.it quicker. Three points in a row now for England.

:06:18. > :06:28.APPLAUSE He really crunches that, Cameron

:06:29. > :06:36.Pilley. You can see how low it stays, 13 inches. Four inches

:06:37. > :06:41.difference does not seem like a lot, but those four inches add another 18

:06:42. > :06:45.inches or even two feet to the front of the court, because you have to go

:06:46. > :06:49.in and come back and it is difficult to appreciate

:06:50. > :06:54.in and come back and it is difficult caught on camera. UMPIRE: No let.

:06:55. > :07:13.For the uninitiated caught on camera. UMPIRE: No let.

:07:14. > :08:00.Pushing out the side walls. That was a rare mistake from Matthew.

:08:01. > :08:05.A critical time, another point here for the Australians and they will

:08:06. > :08:11.feel as though they are almost there.

:08:12. > :08:28.feel as though they are almost go for it. It was almost an amazing

:08:29. > :08:31.volley. He just clips it. He gives the English a little window of

:08:32. > :08:38.opportunity to come back here and finish off the match two games. --

:08:39. > :09:12.in two games. Just too good. Exquisite touch. And

:09:13. > :09:18.not only exquisite touch but the position that he was in, such a big

:09:19. > :09:23.guy, six foot four, he spreads himself so hard to get past. The

:09:24. > :09:25.lead once again stretches to three, just a bit of contact between Palmer

:09:26. > :10:16.and Grant, it was unintentional. UMPIRE: Let. Let has been called.

:10:17. > :10:20.You probably heard the referee saying the decision on the Palmer

:10:21. > :10:25.pick up right there, Grant holds up his hand, and he says it was good.

:10:26. > :10:26.It did look as though it was all right but it was touch and go,

:10:27. > :11:03.though. Oh, that was a wonderful shot again

:11:04. > :11:09.from Parma. His instincts are amazing. Yes, the way he reacted,

:11:10. > :11:14.bending his knees just enough to get his racket under the ball and get a

:11:15. > :11:19.bit more control to punch it in. You see the way he gets lower, he is

:11:20. > :11:29.such a big guy, to do that under pressure is a great shot.

:11:30. > :11:41.38 years of age, his instinct are so quick. Palmer is being put under

:11:42. > :11:45.pressure but his defensive skills have been good, you can see him

:11:46. > :11:50.playing well across the court, Nick Matthew playing a fade Kiel, he was

:11:51. > :11:55.struggling to get his body low enough, but into the front left

:11:56. > :12:19.corner, his movement has been great. -- kill.

:12:20. > :12:32.Matthew, it was so good to see that, a dad nick. When he gets the ball,

:12:33. > :12:33.he is doing something great with it. This is bread-and-butter for Nick

:12:34. > :13:52.Matthew. What a shot from Adrian Grant. Yes,

:13:53. > :13:56.very difficult to read, he was falling back so the natural shot was

:13:57. > :14:03.to play at higher down the wall but he fires it in in that boast. Early

:14:04. > :14:09.on, terrific defence from Matthew because it was fired like a rival

:14:10. > :14:14.shot from Cameron Pilley. He has not missed one of those, Cameron Pilley

:14:15. > :14:18.is hitting it half an inch above the line every time. Nick Matthew puts

:14:19. > :14:35.one foot over and his racket over and he picks it up every time. 5-9

:14:36. > :14:54.becomes 7-9. What a devastating return that was

:14:55. > :14:56.from Pilley. They are daring to go for it. It gives them three-game

:14:57. > :15:11.points. Just missed. And we go to a deciding

:15:12. > :15:29.game. Just a few words between Palmer and

:15:30. > :15:39.Nick Matthew, but that is the situation. It is nice we have a

:15:40. > :15:43.deciding game between these two teams, because there really has been

:15:44. > :15:52.nothing to choose between them, not one dominance Timor was dominant

:15:53. > :16:05.tactic -- not been one dominant team or one dominant tactic.

:16:06. > :16:17.If you can control the left service box, assume you can block them out a

:16:18. > :16:21.bit, not quite as much dumber but certainly, if Palmer does not

:16:22. > :16:24.dominate that area, Adrian Grant brings everything up. It is a

:16:25. > :16:30.question of necessity for the Australian team. They can rely on

:16:31. > :16:37.picking off the points as and when the opportunities come. Normally you

:16:38. > :16:41.get a feeling about how the third game might go, but I haven't got

:16:42. > :16:45.that feeling. It is difficult to pick a favourite right now.

:16:46. > :16:48.Physically, the English team are probably in better shape. The two

:16:49. > :16:52.medal matches that Palmer and Pilley probably in better shape. The two

:16:53. > :16:55.medal matches that Palmer have played in this session are starting

:16:56. > :17:01.to have a bit of an effect, especially on 38-year-old Palmer.

:17:02. > :17:05.But will that be a deciding factor? The way he is moving one step in

:17:06. > :17:07.every direction, and his ability to hit winners and control shots from

:17:08. > :17:26.that 1's step is outstanding. Is a match fit for royalty. Prince

:17:27. > :17:43.Albert will be distributing the medals in a ceremony following this.

:17:44. > :17:51.The English are there, and here come the Australians to the court,

:17:52. > :17:58.The English are there, and here come game number three. The first game

:17:59. > :18:00.was a marathon, it went on for half an hour, the second was just over 15

:18:01. > :18:10.minutes. The shorter the an hour, the second was just over 15

:18:11. > :18:15.shorter the rallies, the more likely the Australians are to take it. That

:18:16. > :18:20.is key for the English team to lengthen the rallies, to try to find

:18:21. > :18:28.the space with the Australian team, to dig away at Palmer's movement if

:18:29. > :18:29.they can, if it is possible. Palmer is one of the most prolific medal

:18:30. > :18:35.winners in this sport. He is one of the most prolific medal

:18:36. > :18:37.medal earlier on today. Does he have the grit and desire to get a second

:18:38. > :19:16.one in the same day? Fascinating. but Nick Matthew but that and he

:19:17. > :19:44.dealt with it. A really good start for Nick

:19:45. > :19:47.Matthew. The more Matthew can get involved in this third game, the

:19:48. > :20:47.better it will be for the English team.

:20:48. > :21:30.Close... A fine shot from Parma, but he was impeded.

:21:31. > :21:39.Outstanding start to game number three. A nice change of direction.

:21:40. > :21:47.See how quickly Grant was onto that shot? David Palmer had to cover the

:21:48. > :21:49.corner. The slight physical benefit for the English players, you can see

:21:50. > :22:58.them really pushing up the court now.

:22:59. > :24:07.This is the most actress in a rally we have had for some while.

:24:08. > :24:16.After all that, a letter called. The pick-up call was good. That is the

:24:17. > :24:20.kind of rally that, with the lead, the Australians are losing a bit of

:24:21. > :24:25.sharpness. It is the kind of rally that the English need. That was good

:24:26. > :24:28.from the Australians. The English at the Menton, but they are the

:24:29. > :24:31.attacking team, and if they get a big lead, they will get more

:24:32. > :24:37.confident and go for more attacking shots. The subtext of that rally is,

:24:38. > :24:41.we are going to make you have to win this, and if you want to win it, you

:24:42. > :24:47.will have to pick your shots from risky areas at the back of the

:24:48. > :24:49.court. The subtext is good, but with the substances that, we will wait

:24:50. > :25:16.and see. Beautiful lengthen from David

:25:17. > :25:21.Palmer. The quality of the shot was good also. David Palmer holds his

:25:22. > :25:23.position very well. Perfectly legitimate play when you get a shot

:25:24. > :25:52.like that. Set up nicely for him, but wasn't he

:25:53. > :25:57.brilliant in the way he put it away? This is one of the reasons why

:25:58. > :26:02.Nick Matthew has been such an amazing singles player and so

:26:03. > :26:06.successful at doubles. It is the way he manages to be so consistent and

:26:07. > :26:07.steadily with that forehand volley. Watch the care with which he put

:26:08. > :26:56.that one away. The smash and sit with a ferocious

:26:57. > :27:00.shot from Adrian Grant. Rant found the angle but he just did not know

:27:01. > :27:02.that his partner was going to be there. It happens once or twice a

:27:03. > :27:19.match. Frustrating. The Aussies are looking a bit more

:27:20. > :27:20.ragged than the English right now, but it is the deciding game of the

:27:21. > :27:48.gold medal match. He has been so good with that

:27:49. > :27:53.straight ball, but you have to cover the straight ball down the line.

:27:54. > :27:57.There was a space for Pilley to hit down the line and he threw the ball

:27:58. > :29:26.into the side wall. A great shot. They stay within sight.

:29:27. > :29:34.A phenomenal rally again. Precision all the way through, as well as

:29:35. > :29:41.pace, but it is Adrian Grant to make the mistakes. E has hit a couple of

:29:42. > :29:44.great shots as well as mistakes. It is difficult to say whether or not

:29:45. > :29:50.he should have gone for that. The fact that the Aussies have gone back

:29:51. > :29:52.to 4-4 is really a function of that rally. The emphasis is now on the

:29:53. > :30:02.English pair to finish it off. A tricky shot from Nick Matthew,

:30:03. > :31:06.tough to deal with for Pilley, but That has worked for Nick Matthew so

:31:07. > :31:11.many times this match. And he is actually behind Pilley when he plays

:31:12. > :31:51.that, very hard for David Palmer to see.

:31:52. > :31:56.Nick Matthew saying he might have been fortunate. Yes, that is

:31:57. > :32:37.possible. Cameron Pilley was the attacking player.

:32:38. > :32:43.Just a little shove from Adrian Grant. Even David Palmer was sent

:32:44. > :32:51.scurrying away. David Palmer straight back with

:32:52. > :33:10.another sublime shot. David Palmer straight back with What

:33:11. > :33:16.a shot, you see him bend over, he does not want to cramp up. He just

:33:17. > :33:23.follows through so well. He is so far back. So strong, there was no

:33:24. > :33:57.risk on that shop. He just used his shoulder, an incredible shot.

:33:58. > :34:03.It is getting tighter and tighter as we get to the nitty-gritty. No

:34:04. > :34:07.player really wants to sacrifice their position, they are going to

:34:08. > :34:09.keep on taking the middle ground. There will be a lot of traffic

:34:10. > :34:27.opens. That was sheer pace, the undoing for

:34:28. > :34:32.Nick Matthew. That has not happened often. But just as I said before,

:34:33. > :34:36.every shot they will play around the middle, there will be some sort of

:34:37. > :34:38.contact with the other player. They have to block it out and use the

:34:39. > :35:12.racquet head control. Another thunderous forehand drive

:35:13. > :35:20.from Cameron Pilley. Suddenly, the Australians looking good. If it was

:35:21. > :35:27.possible for him to get any taller, he cracked down on the ball. From

:35:28. > :35:41.6-4 down, the Australians have the lead.

:35:42. > :36:22.A bit of contact early on, and he has given the let. Two big men

:36:23. > :36:30.bumping into each other. Nick Matthew just pointing out to the

:36:31. > :36:31.referee that he has given a little hip check. But this is part of the

:36:32. > :36:57.game. Again, David Palmer with the dynamic

:36:58. > :37:01.finish. They are two points away. This is like climbing up a mountain

:37:02. > :37:09.for David Palmer, he is almost at the top. He has never won a gold

:37:10. > :37:10.medal, until today, and he is now two points away from a second gold

:37:11. > :37:41.medal. Well played, Adrian Grant. He was

:37:42. > :37:47.alert to that. The ball came over to David Palmer, and you see him bend

:37:48. > :37:52.his knees, he got a bit lower, but not quite long enough. A great shot

:37:53. > :38:24.from Adrian Grant, keeping the ball tight.

:38:25. > :38:49.Adrian Grant was definitely in the way.

:38:50. > :38:59.That was an extraordinary miss. He is owning in. These are the right

:39:00. > :39:04.shots to go for the David Palmer, he wants to win this, he is not going

:39:05. > :39:55.to use attrition. He wants to grab this. But that is the risk.

:39:56. > :40:04.That is the second one he has missed like that. A tired shot. It looked

:40:05. > :40:07.like it. Missing the last couple, maybe David Palmer should be

:40:08. > :40:13.thinking about consolidating believed they had. Cameron Pilley is

:40:14. > :40:22.the younger man, the man with the more powerful forehand. It is going

:40:23. > :40:26.to create a great team effort -- require a great team effort from

:40:27. > :40:26.either team to come through this. Three points in a row for the

:40:27. > :41:01.English. Yes. Contact there. Adrian Grant not

:41:02. > :41:06.particularly happy with David Palmer's move to his left. David

:41:07. > :41:11.Palmer taking up a lot of space. A let given. But Adrian Grant thought

:41:12. > :41:12.he was in a Adrian Grant. His let. Maybe not

:41:13. > :41:28.winner there. Adrian Grant. His let. Maybe not

:41:29. > :41:33.quite as good a shot as David Palmer would have liked, but it is nice to

:41:34. > :41:37.see that Cameron Pilley is trying to go for it. He did not want

:41:38. > :41:37.see that Cameron Pilley is trying to picked up, Adrian Grant, by David

:41:38. > :41:49.Palmer. If it goes to 10-10, it is sudden

:41:50. > :42:39.death. It is very tense now. All of the

:42:40. > :42:42.bowls are going to David Palmer, they do not want to give Cameron

:42:43. > :42:48.Pilley the chance to hit the winning shot. They are trying to take

:42:49. > :42:51.advantage that David Palmer might be feeling it physically, and he can

:42:52. > :42:54.sense the finish line, he won the gold medal so badly. He has had a

:42:55. > :44:29.few mistakes. A sensational rally. Twice, David

:44:30. > :44:35.Palmer went for it in different left, he could not make it. He is

:44:36. > :44:45.shaking his legs a bit. I wonder if cramp is starting to emerge. What a

:44:46. > :44:50.great finish that was. Match point. Incredible for Cameron Pilley, it

:44:51. > :44:58.was great events from David Palmer, but Cameron Pilley sensing his

:44:59. > :45:43.moment. Is David Palmer running on empty? Match point, Australia.

:45:44. > :45:50.A hand apology from David Palmer, but Adrian Grant wants nothing to do

:45:51. > :47:05.with it. David Palmer is playing shots in between his legs.

:47:06. > :47:15.difference. It is Australia who take gold again. What a great story for

:47:16. > :47:23.David Palmer, 38 years of age, father of two, coming out of

:47:24. > :47:31.retirement. Never got the gold. Came through the Mixed Doubles, now even

:47:32. > :47:34.more importantly for him, the Men's Doubles. They simply brilliant

:47:35. > :47:36.afternoon more importantly for him, the Men's

:47:37. > :47:43.Doubles. They simply brilliant for him, winner of the mixed 1.5 hours

:47:44. > :47:52.ago, now doubling up his eighth Commonwealth Games medal. His second

:47:53. > :47:58.gold. A super match. No wonder he takes the accolades. Out of

:47:59. > :48:00.retirement, onto the top of the podium what an afternoon for David

:48:01. > :48:14.Palmer. It was a fine match from start to

:48:15. > :48:20.finish. There was nothing to choose between them. One team could get

:48:21. > :48:25.momentum, the other could steal it back. One of the best doubles

:48:26. > :48:32.matches we have seen. A good effort from these guys. They have been very

:48:33. > :48:33.successful in the past, winning gold. Nick Matthew winning goal here

:48:34. > :48:58.this week. -- gold. Great for this pairing, who missed

:48:59. > :49:01.out in Delhi, bronze medallists. Pilley won the gold in the next, no

:49:02. > :49:32.gold for that man. Was that a stressful for you as

:49:33. > :49:40.everyone watching? Absolutely get a bit edgy with some of those dropped

:49:41. > :49:43.shots. A good match, entertaining, probably the match of the tournament

:49:44. > :49:50.in the doubles. There was a lot of skill on show. He just nudged me out

:49:51. > :49:52.the way, he is a big eye, they are two big eyes. They just controlled

:49:53. > :50:05.the middle. -- two big guys. two big eyes. They just controlled

:50:06. > :50:09.Australians love that? Palmer is very experienced, used his weight

:50:10. > :50:16.and height, making it very difficult. We were conscious of

:50:17. > :50:20.that, and used our tactics. I just have to say thank you to this guy

:50:21. > :50:28.for making it. We did not go on court at all. This guy was in a

:50:29. > :50:32.hospital bed five weeks ago. I am lucky just to be on court. Was that

:50:33. > :50:39.as well as you have played during the tournament? It was well

:50:40. > :50:43.contested, in terms of the two top seeds showing doubles as

:50:44. > :50:48.entertaining as it should be. Going for our shots, not just up and down.

:50:49. > :50:57.We were trying to move them back and forward. Very tight, who dares wins.

:50:58. > :51:02.An amazing week for you personally, I'd gold in the singles, now silver.

:51:03. > :51:08.You are always disappointed, that is the fighting spirit. If you are

:51:09. > :51:14.happy with a silver... They are a great team. David has spent his

:51:15. > :51:22.whole career going for the gold. It is like London buses, but you wait

:51:23. > :51:27.that long for one... Some of his shots, Adrian's backhand, just a bit

:51:28. > :51:36.too good, you have to take your hat off. Nobody can compete with that

:51:37. > :51:41.guys forehand. -- guide's forehand. An amazing week for English squash

:51:42. > :51:50.as a team? Unbelievable, testament to the team.

:51:51. > :51:55.as a team? Unbelievable, testament it at 38, why can't we come back. It

:51:56. > :52:00.is up to the youngsters to displace us. There is a legacy coming

:52:01. > :52:04.through. You have to be in the top eight in the world to make the

:52:05. > :52:09.singles team. That is testament to the lottery funding which came in

:52:10. > :52:16.when we were 16. We would not be there without it. Well done to both

:52:17. > :52:21.of you. You guys are the last English competitors on court. We had

:52:22. > :52:25.such a good time, top of the medal English competitors on court. We had

:52:26. > :52:33.table, shame we could not finish with the last gold. A great sign

:52:34. > :52:37.off, cheers. Very well done to them,

:52:38. > :52:43.away disappointed, picking up the silver in the Men's Doubles.

:52:44. > :52:47.are, the sun has come out, a glorious last day. That is it in

:52:48. > :52:52.terms of live action. I have been glorious last day. That is it in

:52:53. > :52:58.joined by three members of the men's hockey team, celebrating their

:52:59. > :53:11.first medal since it was introduced at the Commonwealth Games back in

:53:12. > :53:15.1998. Simon Mantell, Ali Dixon, what an afternoon. The way you came

:53:16. > :53:23.through against New Zealand? It was a bit like that. We had the lead,

:53:24. > :53:29.then got the equaliser. Pretty tense, so pleased to have got over

:53:30. > :53:37.the line with the bronze medal. What you make of your experience? Ending

:53:38. > :53:40.up with a bronze medal? Originally we said we wanted to make the final,

:53:41. > :53:46.disappointed to lose against Australia. We knew if we could put

:53:47. > :53:52.the demons to rest, if we got a medal today, we would be made up for

:53:53. > :54:05.it. Everything has been brilliant hair, the feed, everything. -- the

:54:06. > :54:09.food. How much has this done for hockey? What is it done for the

:54:10. > :54:14.profile of the sport? It is fantastic. We had a good Olympics

:54:15. > :54:19.with the girls getting bronze, the men finishing fourth at the World

:54:20. > :54:22.Cup. We are very happy, with us picking up the bronze, the women

:54:23. > :54:28.getting a silver, another push for the sport. It has been great, a lot

:54:29. > :54:34.of people watching. Great support from all over. The steady

:54:35. > :54:41.improvement improved under your coach, Bobby Crutchley, fourth place

:54:42. > :54:49.used to be your perennial position, that you have broken that. We have

:54:50. > :54:53.broken through that. It is the most difficult push to make. We have

:54:54. > :54:58.started to perform well in these tough games, today, walking away

:54:59. > :55:06.with the bronze medal, absolutely chuffed. What about the backing of

:55:07. > :55:11.the crowd? It has been incredible, feeling like a home crowd, we were

:55:12. > :55:16.not sure what to expect, what reception we would get. It has been

:55:17. > :55:21.incredible. Fully supporting us, we were glad we were able to get the

:55:22. > :55:27.bronze. You have two build on this, the European Championships coming

:55:28. > :55:31.up? Next summer, in London, a great opportunity for people who have not

:55:32. > :55:37.watched hockey live to come and see what it is all about. A fast,

:55:38. > :55:43.exciting game, a lot of goals, try to get hold of tickets. How far can

:55:44. > :55:47.England go? We can do extremely well, we have shown in the past, how

:55:48. > :55:53.well we have done, both teams will be looking to make the final.

:55:54. > :55:56.Hopefully coming away with a medal. Brilliant, give them a round of

:55:57. > :56:06.applause. They have picked up a bronze medal. A live studio

:56:07. > :56:12.audience! Why not? Picking up a bronze medal. Talking of headlines,

:54:48. > :54:55.He is there again, fancying another. Moves towards the D. Good save,

:54:56. > :55:02.bouncing into the crowd, that could be nasty, that ball is hard.

:55:03. > :55:22.Thankfully, no damage done. Someone has trousered that one. Sreejesh is

:04:34. > :04:36.With the ball on the foot. The Australians are very steady at the

:04:37. > :04:41.back, they have seen the Indian attack, they do not panic, they put

:04:42. > :04:47.bodies behind it. It is a great example to anybody who wants to BA

:04:48. > :04:53.top player, you have got to work and work all the time, and when you have

:04:54. > :04:54.had enough, you get substituted and somebody will come on from the side

:06:04. > :06:49.any nonsense. A hat-trick this afternoon for

:06:50. > :06:50.Australia from Chris Ciriello. Eddie Ockenden providing the other

:08:12. > :08:18.is no way they can score four goals in fall half minutes. But they have

:08:19. > :08:19.got to keep trying. I am sure Australia will be looking for

:08:20. > :08:36.another goal. It did not take long before

:08:37. > :08:49.Australia were in possession of the ball.

:08:50. > :08:55.Hockey goalkeepers like doing that, they do not often get the chance. It

:09:13. > :09:25.Matthew Swann's passing has been superb throughout the tournament.

:09:26. > :11:41.The Australians say they left it too late.

:12:05. > :12:10.They are having a look at whether the Australian player was five

:12:21. > :12:32.It was close. There is no magic spray like we had in the football

:12:33. > :12:36.World Cup. It is a bit of guesswork. Was he five metres away? That is the

:12:37. > :12:59.question. It is raining again. India are hoping to get a penalty

:13:00. > :13:06.corner here. The decision will come from the video umpire, who is

:13:07. > :13:12.upstairs. That is not five metres. Kieran Govers is not five metres

:13:13. > :13:21.away when the free hit is taken. It should be a penalty corner. There is

:13:22. > :13:36.no reason to change your decision. There you go, I got one wrong! It

:14:07. > :14:12.women in green and gold. The medal ceremony will follow shortly after

:14:13. > :14:13.the inclusion of the match. The organisers will hope the rain clears

:14:14. > :14:41.first. but Australia held firm. That was

:14:42. > :14:55.off the foot of Matt Gohdes. Australia running until the last

:14:56. > :15:19.second of the gold-medal game. Can India get something out of

:15:20. > :15:38.this? It is all over here. The hooter will

:15:39. > :15:49.sound, Australia are the champions again. They have done the golden

:15:50. > :15:53.double. Another one-sided Commonwealth Games men's gold-medal

:15:54. > :16:00.match comes to its conclusion. A hat-trick for Chris Ciriello. Four

:16:01. > :16:07.goals to Australia, the forthcoming from Eddie Ockenden. India never

:16:08. > :16:20.really got going in this match. It was one-sided from the first whistle

:16:21. > :16:25.until the final hooter. Australia 4-0 India. India will take the

:16:26. > :16:29.silver. If ever there was a nailed on medal,

:16:30. > :16:35.it would have to be the Australian men in the hockey, that is their

:16:36. > :16:41.fifth successive golds, they have won every single competition going.

:16:42. > :16:47.India left to reflect what happened four years ago in Delhi. We're

:16:48. > :16:50.counting down to our output from the Commonwealth Games. As it is our

:16:51. > :16:55.final show, we thought we Commonwealth Games. As it is our

:16:56. > :17:00.final show, we would look back to our favourite moments from Glasgow

:17:11. > :17:14.Brownlee starting it off. -- from social media.

:17:15. > :17:26.Then there were those Royal photo bombs. The Queen with the Australian

:17:27. > :17:33.hockey team. Prince Harry with the New Zealand coaches. Prince William

:17:34. > :17:47.alongside Sir Chris Foy. The biggest question was, can Richard' funk?

:17:48. > :17:51.Yes, he can. Clare balding is after your moments, what will you

:17:52. > :18:01.remember, what has moved you over the last 11 days? Get in touch.

:18:02. > :18:08.Now a chance to relive the men's cycling road race. Just enough time

:18:09. > :18:11.to show you the best bits of a fabulous contest unfolding on the

:18:12. > :18:32.wet and slippery roads of Glasgow. Now the men faced 12 laps of the 14

:18:33. > :18:38.kilometres circuit. That is not a good start, you need some certain of

:18:39. > :18:48.its about 20 yards after leaving the start line. The Kenyan is one of the

:18:49. > :18:51.fences riders. Pressing on. These tactics are not something I would

:18:52. > :18:59.expect to see. Clearly a defined move. Australia deciding it is their

:19:00. > :19:10.responsibility to do the chase. Quite a high price to put them under

:19:11. > :19:18.pressure. Kenya expending a lot of energy. It does not look like he

:19:19. > :19:24.will get any company. Dennis has gone down. Very bad news for

:19:25. > :19:33.Australia. Right at the start as he went into the corner. Certainly not

:19:34. > :19:39.looking as comfortable as he was. That is to be expected. Still an

:19:40. > :19:45.awful long way to go. Here is a problem for Geraint Thomas. A very

:19:46. > :19:56.slow wheel change. I don't know who the mechanic is. That has cost him.

:19:57. > :20:00.The longer the race goes on, the harder it seems to rain, this is the

:20:01. > :20:07.worst we have seen by a long stretch. That could have been

:20:08. > :20:21.disastrous, an umbrella in your spokes. Good evasive action.

:20:22. > :20:39.Stupendous by the Isle of Man rider. Certainly not looking happy now. The

:20:40. > :20:50.race is on in a big way. He knows the chase is on. Suddenly a very

:20:51. > :20:54.hungry pack. Kennaugh will sit on the back, he cannot contribute and

:20:55. > :21:01.go with them. Look at the pain etched on his face. Epic ride by

:21:02. > :21:08.Kennaugh, he is losing touch. We come onto the finish. One lap to go

:21:09. > :21:13.in the Commonwealth Games men's Road race, nearly four hours in the

:21:14. > :21:20.saddle. One of these three will be crowned Commonwealth champion.

:21:21. > :21:24.Garang Thomas decides to go for it. A slight hesitation. Thomas going

:21:25. > :21:30.for glory. He has the gap, they cannot do anything about it. The gap

:21:31. > :21:36.going up all the time. Three quarters of the minute now. That is

:21:37. > :21:40.not two people riding to get back into contention. They know they are

:21:41. > :21:49.contesting the silver and bronze. What is the problem? A problem for

:21:50. > :21:55.Geraint Thomas. He has had to stop. I do not believe it. A puncture on

:21:56. > :22:01.the front wheel. This needs to be a good change. This makes things

:22:02. > :22:07.interesting. Oh, no! Unbelievable for Geraint Thomas. Suddenly they

:22:08. > :22:18.are right back in the race. Garang Thomas will win with a little bit of

:22:19. > :22:23.elbow room. -- Geraint Thomas. That puncture must've seemed like an

:22:24. > :22:27.eternity to sort out. What must have been going on in

:22:28. > :22:35.eternity to sort out. What must have stayed good, storming away ahead of

:22:36. > :22:39.Jack Bauer and Scott Thwaites. Those are the three who were left to

:22:40. > :22:48.contest the medals after Pete Kennaugh had been reeled in. So

:22:49. > :23:07.often the team player, now the glory will be his. Garang -- Garang --

:23:08. > :23:11.Geraint Thomas. It was tough out there, I have the mechanical with

:23:12. > :23:17.the chain. Unfortunately find to get back on. I do not have that

:23:18. > :23:23.acceleration out of the corners, I tried to time trial it. All going

:23:24. > :23:27.well until the puncture. I thought, here we go, what do I have to do? I

:23:28. > :23:35.had a big enough advantage to stay away. Unbelievable, easy to say,

:23:36. > :23:41.people may be, come on, I did not expect that after coming out of the

:23:42. > :23:47.Tour de France. I wanted to come and ride for Wales. Over the moon. To

:23:48. > :23:59.get a bronze and to win today, a great feeling. That was a very brave

:24:00. > :24:05.ride, take us through it? Yes, started, so wet, so dangerous, I

:24:06. > :24:13.just moved to the front, went on the first climb. I committed for half a

:24:14. > :24:19.lap, I thought one or two other guys will come across, and take the race

:24:20. > :24:28.from the front. I knew it was such a technical course. Organising a chase

:24:29. > :24:32.is hard. That did not happen. After a lap and a half, I was committed.

:24:33. > :24:37.Just to sit and go back to the peloton after using that energy

:24:38. > :24:46.would have been ridiculous. You have done us proud, that McIntosh bike,

:24:47. > :24:55.what are your emotions? The emotions are pretty strong. Although I am sad

:24:56. > :25:00.I could not be at the front, it was such a privilege to be out there,

:25:01. > :25:06.getting such a good reaction all the way round. There was no way I would

:25:07. > :25:11.give up. , wherever I got dropped. It was paying respects to the people

:25:12. > :25:15.standing out there cheering. They are amazing. Earlier Scottish crowd

:25:16. > :25:24.would do that. It was like a monsoon, it was five deep. -- only a

:25:25. > :25:29.Scottish crowd. Incredible to think of the 140

:25:30. > :25:36.riders, only 12 finished. Well done to Geraint Thomas. This is the final

:25:37. > :25:45.medals table. England finishing top for the first time in 28 years. Just

:25:46. > :25:50.ahead of Australia. Scotland comprehensively beating their

:25:51. > :25:56.previous best return of 33 medals. Well done to them. That is not quite

:25:57. > :26:06.it. The rehearsals are under way for the closing ceremony. Kylie has been

:26:07. > :26:12.in action. We were looking for the selfie. We have coverage of the

:26:13. > :26:22.closing ceremony from eight o'clock. BBC1.

:26:23. > :26:33.Well, would you believe it? That is it from Glasgow 2014, thanks from

:26:34. > :26:39.all of you. Thanks the company, we hope you enjoyed our coverage on BBC

:26:40. > :26:42.Three. We believe you with the lasting images from the 20th

:26:43. > :26:44.Commonwealth Games. From all of us at Pacific Quays, thank you and

:26:45. > :26:58.goodbye. Jody Stimpson winning the first gold

:26:59. > :27:22.of the games. The first gold medal. Paddy Barnes making history.

:27:23. > :28:38.It is gold for the second time. The gold medal goes to Nick Matthew. He

:28:39. > :28:44.has pulled it out of the bag. He dug deep. They get the gold medal. Every

:28:45. > :28:48.single move was never in doubt. Utterly historic, Hannah Miley wins
