:05:36. > :05:40.of your comments will be used on the website. This morning it really is
:05:41. > :05:45.an absolute incredible day, dutiful day, I cannot believe it. For all of
:05:46. > :05:50.the out of doors and events it'll be fantastic and if you happen to be in
:05:51. > :05:56.the area I suggest you take some sunblock and a bonnet. If this is
:05:57. > :06:01.the sum you have seen hockey on television, and don't fully
:06:02. > :06:09.understand your terms, let's keep you up-to-date.
:06:10. > :06:18.Hockey is a fast and fierce game played by two 11 aside teams. Five
:06:19. > :06:23.substitutes may be used and unlimited number of times in the 70
:06:24. > :06:28.minute match. Goals may only be scored from within the circle, 16
:06:29. > :06:37.yards in front of the goal. Suspension cards can be issued for
:06:38. > :06:42.fouls, green card and yellow card. The penalty corners can be awarded
:06:43. > :06:46.for a variety of infringements and are taken from the back line, ten
:06:47. > :06:54.metres either side of the goalpost. Only five defenders in the shooting
:06:55. > :06:57.circle. If the school is tied in the knockout stages then a penalty shoot
:06:58. > :07:04.out will take place. In Glasgow both the men's and women's competitions
:07:05. > :07:12.comprise of Paul play with the top two from each group progressing to
:07:13. > :07:17.the semifinals. STUDIO: Now you are experts let's waste no further time
:07:18. > :07:30.in getting over to Glasgow Green with Leslie Murdoch and Sean Curley.
:07:31. > :07:34.COMMENTATOR: Don't forget the talented goalkeeper for India, up on
:07:35. > :07:53.the top flank now, looking for entry into the circle. The forward man
:07:54. > :07:58.will come in time. Wales leading the space, make sure they cover the
:07:59. > :08:01.middle of the park, they do not want any injections directly towards the
:08:02. > :08:05.goal. They will let the Indians go wide and then try to close out the
:08:06. > :08:38.spaces. Little Love and over, trying to get
:08:39. > :09:04.some distance. -- up and over. Early days for both these teams.
:09:05. > :09:26.Lovely touch. Kettle, regulation save, ever ready. He sticks his boot
:09:27. > :09:35.out efficiently. It is those fast running forwards, looking to see if
:09:36. > :09:40.anything came of that. In a team that has that forward momentum you
:09:41. > :09:45.want to give them the opportunity so there will be some advantage played
:09:46. > :09:49.by the umpires. They have been very good so far allowing the game to
:09:50. > :09:59.flow as much as possible unless it is really obvious. Kettle again
:10:00. > :10:03.pushes that straight into the oncoming Indian player. First
:10:04. > :10:13.penalty corner, just on five minutes. Just a clearance, the
:10:14. > :10:35.keeper does not manage to keep it down, so the first corner to India.
:10:36. > :10:37.At the top of the capital D we have the Indians ready. Less than ten
:10:38. > :10:51.seconds to get ready now. Here it comes. From the baseline.
:10:52. > :10:57.Into the top, it hit the crossbar from Rupinder Singh. What a start.
:10:58. > :11:02.Now the counterattack from the Welsh, up the left flank, looking to
:11:03. > :11:03.make some contact. The pitch well watered, squirting up from the
:11:04. > :11:22.players feet. Danish, a player you are looking
:11:23. > :11:39.forward to seeing. Number 17. Back to Rupinder Singh. Plato the whistle
:11:40. > :11:47.is the command from the Singapore on fire. -- play too. He will be busy
:11:48. > :11:54.at this end, Wales have to be careful that they do not get spread
:11:55. > :12:00.out. India will love to play attack against defence, so every time Wales
:12:01. > :12:03.breakaway they must come out as a unit otherwise India will find
:12:04. > :12:12.spaces behind men and then can count themselves, a wobbly when they are
:12:13. > :12:19.their most dangerous. -- probably. Into the circle again, meat and
:12:20. > :12:33.drink for Kettle indole for Wales. -- in goal. Fantastic strike, off
:12:34. > :12:44.the bar, Kettle did not get his stick on it. What a strike. Really
:12:45. > :12:49.important to stamp the five metre exclusion zone for those defending a
:12:50. > :12:55.free hit, we have heard that early. Now India on the counterattack, bevy
:12:56. > :13:13.of yellow shirts and again Kettle very dominant in the D. Shot at goal
:13:14. > :13:18.and again a great save and the defender takes the ball off the
:13:19. > :13:23.pads. He will have a lot of work to do. India keep firing the ball in in
:13:24. > :13:30.front of Kettle and he is playing very well, taking it out along the
:13:31. > :13:33.ground into safe areas. That is what he has to keep doing. India just
:13:34. > :13:40.need to keep that ball in the danger area and get a fume or attackers on
:13:41. > :13:44.the end of it. What I like about David Kettle is the fact he wants to
:13:45. > :13:48.become the 11th person, the first prong of attack and he will come out
:13:49. > :13:59.and play in some cases like a field way, and when you add the skill, he
:14:00. > :14:14.will see himself as a true part of the team, not just the stopper. Good
:14:15. > :14:19.contest, good contest. Forcing an error from the wells. That early
:14:20. > :14:47.morning sun, beaming down on this page. -- pitch. A well struck back
:14:48. > :14:57.into their defensive screens. -- the Welsh. Wales are definitely marking
:14:58. > :15:02.zones rather than the men at the back, they are allowing India to go
:15:03. > :15:06.wide and away from the goal area that means in India will be able to
:15:07. > :15:15.settle a bet and work those opportunities. The ball has been
:15:16. > :15:26.slippery around the edges. Sardar Singh.
:15:27. > :15:37.Looking at what number 21 brings, he was not at the World Cup but he is
:15:38. > :15:56.hovering in the circle for India. Ready to pounce. Get the free head,
:15:57. > :16:03.Rupinder Singh. -- hit. Look at that. Using the width, they have got
:16:04. > :16:07.strength in power. They are being allowed to play with wales dropping
:16:08. > :16:13.off, giving India the territory at the back. They have to have the ball
:16:14. > :16:18.in front of Wales, which is a very sensible thing to do. Yes. Punching
:16:19. > :16:32.at the area, the first person to sensible thing to do. Yes. Punching
:16:33. > :16:43.allow that area... That was a deft pass, into the attacking third, shot
:16:44. > :16:48.at goal. Again, good defence. India working from the right and finding
:16:49. > :16:52.bodies but Wales are equal to it, they keep focused but must keep
:16:53. > :17:01.concentrating very hard in those situations. The elimination skills,
:17:02. > :17:10.at the moment, or efficient. Wales. Lewis. Again. And there is a lot of
:17:11. > :17:26.heritage, he is the son of the former captain, David Prosser. Into
:17:27. > :17:32.the circle, and a corner! Wales win themselves the corner. And this is
:17:33. > :17:36.the area where in the World Cup India linked a couple of goals. We
:17:37. > :17:43.saw the ball being fired in and that is exactly what the Welsh had to do.
:17:44. > :17:46.It shows that India are human, they make mistakes and Wales need to
:17:47. > :18:03.learn that and they will grow in confidence when they do get these
:18:04. > :18:18.little victories. Gareth Furlong, at the top of the D. That was a save!
:18:19. > :18:29.They might be having a referral to the umpire. That was interesting. I
:18:30. > :18:36.will have another look at it. The ball was fired in quite low. If it
:18:37. > :18:40.was missing, I guess happy umpire has blown for danger because it was
:18:41. > :18:50.lifted when it was going past the post. That was a good steel. Wales
:18:51. > :19:02.enjoying a purple patch. And the counterattack from India. He finds
:19:03. > :19:20.some space. Into the spot. Kettle does well. Wales keep the ball. And
:19:21. > :19:26.off they go again. We have had nearly 15 minutes of the first half.
:19:27. > :19:35.We have had a reasonably even exchange between both sides. One
:19:36. > :19:40.corner each. You would probably say that India have been in the danger
:19:41. > :19:47.area more often than the Welsh team. They are controlling the play
:19:48. > :19:53.better, more possession. Wales are holding their own at the moment. I
:19:54. > :19:58.have been impressed with Richard Gay, strong at the back and
:19:59. > :20:03.have been impressed with Richard his one-on-ones. There he is. The
:20:04. > :20:05.straight ball through, that little touch, who is going to get their
:20:06. > :20:18.first? Hot conditions. Good contest. touch, who is going to get their
:20:19. > :20:23.That was a lovely ball, one-on-one. If you get the left little -- right
:20:24. > :20:53.little touch and the spin, you might beat the defender. Danish.
:20:54. > :21:12.Again, working well in unison, the defenders for Wales. And on we go.
:21:13. > :21:19.Nicholas Rees getting tangled up. Nearly 30 degrees, very hot out
:21:20. > :21:23.there and this is where India will be much more used to this
:21:24. > :21:28.temperature than Wales, and the fitness will play a part as well as
:21:29. > :21:34.having to work. They have not got the ball as often as the Indian
:21:35. > :21:35.team. They are running, doing a lot of hard running without the ball and
:21:36. > :22:16.that is much more difficult. Play on, keep the game flowing. Just
:22:17. > :22:22.that last pass, so that was a promising build-up. That defence
:22:23. > :22:25.from Wales is nullifying any opportunity that India can find,
:22:26. > :22:29.they are finding difficulty getting the ball into the circle at the
:22:30. > :22:34.minute. And the reason is, wales work very hard. They have stolen the
:22:35. > :22:39.ball and have put pressure on that deep defensive unit. The little
:22:40. > :22:49.off-load. Still looking to get the shot away. Again, able to mop up and
:22:50. > :22:54.they are strong and sure in the defensive unit. They are simply not
:22:55. > :23:03.intimidated by those silky skills, are they?
:23:04. > :23:21.So, Richard Gay, the 30-year-old, getting some words of advice. His
:23:22. > :23:25.51st match. Wales but the ball down and they lost possession
:23:26. > :23:30.straightaway. They want to try to keep possession a little bit more
:23:31. > :23:34.and they need to build on that. I love what Kettle did, the goalkeeper
:23:35. > :23:44.came out. He took on the Indian attacker. He made that ball
:23:45. > :23:51.dangerous, didn't he? Yes. He pounced on that, India. Danish. To
:23:52. > :24:01.the left side, that was a good touch tackle. Into the circle. Looking for
:24:02. > :24:04.the corner. Danish has got some fantastic individual skills. Look at
:24:05. > :24:09.the way he can weave his way through, Cleverley over the stick
:24:10. > :24:12.and he is already thinking about his next move. The defender commits and
:24:13. > :24:32.that was an easy short corner. The good thing about 40 seconds is
:24:33. > :24:41.it keeps team meant going. -- the momentum. From the baseline, he has
:24:42. > :24:51.got number three at the top. And the first goal for India! We saw him in
:24:52. > :24:58.action in a couple of bright this matches and he can head that! Just
:24:59. > :25:15.across to the left of the keeper. He had to move slightly, which exposed
:25:16. > :25:28.his right hand side. Look at that, Raghunath. In the rake the deadlock.
:25:29. > :25:38.-- India break the deadlock. Convergent penalty for India. That
:25:39. > :25:56.was a good conversion. He hit the crossbar? It was the first one. Very
:25:57. > :26:23.tall frame. Rupinder, athletic, smooth running.
:26:24. > :26:43.Into the world circle. And the long corner. They have had a couple of
:26:44. > :26:50.forays into that Indian defence. -- the world circle. Yes, the Indians
:26:51. > :26:52.keeping out the Welsh but there are opportunities, there will be
:26:53. > :26:58.opportunities and the difference is the amount of hockey that these
:26:59. > :27:04.sides play, the Indians have played at a higher level consistently and
:27:05. > :27:07.are just tidier, there are skills are just a little bit more...
:27:08. > :27:17.Refined? But every game for are just a little bit more...
:27:18. > :27:20.a winner in terms of are just a little bit more...
:27:21. > :27:20.sport. But are just a little bit more...
:27:21. > :27:26.cannot score, the are just a little bit more...
:27:27. > :27:37.not as many but they must make them count. The younger of the brothers.
:27:38. > :27:44.He drives it into the circle. count. The younger of the brothers.
:27:45. > :27:57.what a goal! My goodness! Wales have scored against India! What a
:27:58. > :28:02.fabulous opportunity. And it is tied up. And 12 minutes left. They will
:28:03. > :28:05.not get many of those, they need to make them count and what if I'm
:28:06. > :28:10.drastic deflection. One of the most difficult skills to do, coming
:28:11. > :28:15.across in front of you and just deflecting that into the far post.
:28:16. > :28:22.What a superb score. They must have heard you talking. He said they had
:28:23. > :28:36.opportunities. And again! Be shot at goal! Keeping the crowd enthralled.
:28:37. > :28:43.That is not bad for Wales. Seven opportunities for India. You get the
:28:44. > :28:48.impression in the opening 12 minutes that India are playing within
:28:49. > :28:54.themselves. They are but what Wales are doing is their only marking
:28:55. > :28:59.around the crown of the D, they are not allowing India into the danger
:29:00. > :29:03.area and are breaking on the counterattack so credit must go to
:29:04. > :29:08.the Welsh as well. But they are having to put a massive amount of
:29:09. > :29:13.work in and on this temperature, 30 degrees, they will get tired and
:29:14. > :29:35.later on, it might be dangerous for them. Yes, it is going up. India,
:29:36. > :29:45.what will apply the? -- what will the reply the? 118 caps for the
:29:46. > :29:52.goal-scorer for Wales, Andrew Cornick. 33 years old. He has been
:29:53. > :29:57.around for awhile and that will taste so sweet to get one the
:29:58. > :30:14.Indians. One of whom are still on the ground. The play goes on. Still
:30:15. > :30:19.the Indian player is down. Waiting for the ball to exit out before the
:30:20. > :30:24.whistle goes and the Welshman lets it go. Nice sportsmanship. The
:30:25. > :30:29.friendly games. Rupinder was down for the long time and his own team
:30:30. > :30:39.did not care, that is the wrong word, that they kept playing. Bit of
:30:40. > :30:44.a shoulder. It is something you have to be careful of Nenagh sport,
:30:45. > :30:53.hockey. They stick on the head is something you need to look at. -- in
:30:54. > :30:58.our sport. As you say it is a friendly and sportsmanlike action to
:30:59. > :31:13.Promising little interplay between and give the ball back. Good stuff.
:31:14. > :31:14.Promising little interplay between the Welsh players, Jones hovering
:31:15. > :31:28.around that ball. Just looking for the little touch,
:31:29. > :31:52.plenty of Welsh shirts around. They get the whistle.
:31:53. > :32:01.Some swift play, little interchange from Wales and they get a shot at
:32:02. > :32:12.goal. It is corner number two. Great scrapping. Zak Jones delighted in
:32:13. > :32:21.the crowd. Not easy to get the stunt on the ball and win the penalty
:32:22. > :32:28.corner. On his own foot. Such a tight little area. Zak Jones looking
:32:29. > :32:34.at his options. He will talk to the bench and they will call for the
:32:35. > :32:42.corner they want. There will be variations they have practised.
:32:43. > :32:50.Furlong waiting. Michael Shaw waiting at the top. Rhys Gowman
:32:51. > :33:02.dragging from the base. Little flick into the pads, defensive free hit.
:33:03. > :33:09.Sreejesh, the Indian goalkeeper, needs to adjust his pads. Got a
:33:10. > :33:18.pummelling. Low one, it was around in front, just needed to get that
:33:19. > :33:38.over the keeper. Good scrambling defence by India.
:33:39. > :33:46.India cannot quite latch onto that pass, concentration in the last few
:33:47. > :34:00.minutes of this first spell. Second day action, first session. Reading
:34:01. > :34:06.the game well, just came off the stick and the Welsh into their work
:34:07. > :34:16.on the right flank. Causing some consternation among the Indian
:34:17. > :34:24.defenders. Free hit again. Brignull. Into the circle, little touch. PR
:34:25. > :34:30.Sreejesh, the vice captain and goalkeeper, again called on and he
:34:31. > :34:35.is issuing the commands. Good move by Wales switching the play,
:34:36. > :34:46.injecting into the circle, causing trouble at the heart of the Indian
:34:47. > :34:53.defence. 1-1. VR Raghunath scoring from the drag flick at the penalty
:34:54. > :35:01.corner. And then Kyriakides drove into the circle and Cornick finished
:35:02. > :35:10.for Wales. Those are the scoring actions. Dispossessed once more,
:35:11. > :35:20.plenty of room in the midfield, looking for support on the right.
:35:21. > :35:24.Hugh Jones was steaming up there but he could not quite keep it in, could
:35:25. > :35:29.he? Good passage of play from Wales, they have not given the ball
:35:30. > :35:35.away with forward passes. Really, for then, they need to build slowly
:35:36. > :35:39.and tried to build the team together because they do not want to leave
:35:40. > :35:54.space in midfield for India to work in. Lovely little skill. But again
:35:55. > :35:58.well watched. Picked off by Wales, the lone ranger on the left flank
:35:59. > :36:06.making plenty of inroads into the Indian defence. Nothing has
:36:07. > :36:11.happened, says Peter Wright, the South African umpire. BOOING
:36:12. > :36:17.Did he get the speed wobbles? Looks to have run out of steam. Shoulder
:36:18. > :36:24.charge? Look how quickly the ball is back down here and a penalty corner
:36:25. > :36:27.outside the circle. That shows the danger of attacking, when you attack
:36:28. > :36:37.you are stretched. India used the space and got the penalty corner. At
:36:38. > :36:41.times the international men's game is so quick, like a tennis match,
:36:42. > :36:46.your head going one way and then the other. Compelling skills. Putting
:36:47. > :36:57.the stick, that is what caused the penalty corner. -- hooking. They
:36:58. > :37:08.only have ten seconds to get ready, the defenders. Again Rupinder at the
:37:09. > :37:12.top. VR Raghunath. Number 12. That is loose at the top of the circle,
:37:13. > :37:21.it has fallen to the Indians, they still have an opportunity. Play on,
:37:22. > :37:27.play on. Counter. WHISTLE BOOING
:37:28. > :37:43.Good use of the referral. Colin, are you there? India is asking for the
:37:44. > :37:56.foot over there. I did not see it. Can you check please. While they
:37:57. > :38:01.have a look at and come if it is not a foot and Wales had the ball
:38:02. > :38:15.appear. Three on two. That is good use of the referral. Dynamic play. I
:38:16. > :38:26.am not seeing anything immediately. On that first run through. They seem
:38:27. > :38:36.very confident, they are ready for the short corner. I like what it
:38:37. > :38:40.brings to the game, it takes away the pressure from the umpire and
:38:41. > :38:44.makes the players move away from him. One of the reasons it was
:38:45. > :38:51.brought in this case the players were crowding the umpires. It became
:38:52. > :39:04.quite difficult. Having a look at this routine, it may be after that.
:39:05. > :39:14.I think it makes it easier for the umpires, it is much cleaner. Is it
:39:15. > :39:24.the first one, is that what they are looking at? He said play on. It came
:39:25. > :39:31.off his stick. There is no reason to change your decision. Burley at the
:39:32. > :39:43.16. How does that make Wales feel? -- bully. Video referral rejected,
:39:44. > :39:54.do they lose their referral? India lose their referral. I did not see
:39:55. > :40:01.what happened. Yes, India lose their referral.
:40:02. > :40:10.Some testy exchanges in the closing minutes of the first half because
:40:11. > :40:13.the number nine ranked side, India, got the first goal, but Wales,
:40:14. > :40:26.ranked 31, have equalised. This time again they have the
:40:27. > :40:31.on the end of the stick. Cornick, the goal-scorer. Just a little
:40:32. > :40:46.careful waiting for the troops to arrive.
:40:47. > :41:02.Very calm and collected, the Welsh. Good effort, but just a little bit,
:41:03. > :41:07.out of his reach, Kyriakides. Tidy skills, just need to tighten those
:41:08. > :41:11.up because the ball running off the back of the pitch bid again India
:41:12. > :41:19.lucky. Wales intercept again on the left flank. GROANS FROM CROWD
:41:20. > :41:26.APPLAUSE Another good interception. Beautiful
:41:27. > :41:31.work by Swainson, just not making the connections. But another chance
:41:32. > :41:35.will come, they are putting the effort in. It remains to be seen how
:41:36. > :41:44.fit they are, how long they can hang on in this heat. I am sure we will
:41:45. > :41:49.hear more about at timely referral by India. In the context of the game
:41:50. > :41:54.and where it was and where Wales had the ball. They have it again with
:41:55. > :42:02.Kyriakides. Swainson up there. Little cuff around the head for
:42:03. > :42:19.Brignull. And here he is with the ball. Swainson. Congested circle. 90
:42:20. > :42:24.seconds left. Danger time. Struck into the circle again. They have
:42:25. > :42:39.players in the right position, putting pressure on the India
:42:40. > :42:45.defence. They go overhead, to halfway. The Welsh player coming
:42:46. > :42:50.into that area, it was deemed unsafe. If you are having a look at
:42:51. > :42:55.hockey the first time and you the players using their stick over the
:42:56. > :43:04.shoulder, it is allowed now as long as it is in a safe manner.
:43:05. > :43:14.Some intensity from India. Again just losing it in their attacking
:43:15. > :43:20.third. What can they do in the dying seconds of the first half? Less than
:43:21. > :43:24.30 seconds. Sardar Singh. Picked off. CHEERING
:43:25. > :43:39.The crowd urging Wales on. Brignull bringing it forward.
:43:40. > :43:50.The players will have a good idea of what the minutes are in the half?
:43:51. > :43:53.Reckon they will know. WHISTLE That is half-time, what a half, some
:43:54. > :44:09.absorbing exchanges from both sides but it is 1-1. Sean Curley, what did
:44:10. > :44:14.you make of the first-half from the Indian perspective? I would say that
:44:15. > :44:20.they had a lot of possession and they played a good first 15 or 20
:44:21. > :44:28.minutes, testing Wales out. Putting them under pressure but Wales
:44:29. > :44:33.responded. After the goal very showed a lot of spirit and they have
:44:34. > :44:42.come back and scored that fantastic breakaway goal. Deserve it 1-1 at
:44:43. > :44:48.half-time. The play is very keen especially the Welsh, you can see
:44:49. > :44:52.them heaving a bit breath-wise at the end. They will want to get
:44:53. > :44:57.inside to call Dan and Zak Jones will have a word with them. The
:44:58. > :45:06.statistics from the first 45 minutes. Pretty even, same penalty
:45:07. > :45:10.corners, similar shots on goal. Similar results in the danger areas
:45:11. > :45:22.but on the balance of play India have had a lot more possession.
:45:23. > :45:26.India are ninth in the world rankings and Wales are 31st. If
:45:27. > :45:32.Wales can get anything out of this, that will be a very fine result. We
:45:33. > :45:37.will be back shortly. We will go this way.
:45:38. > :45:45.One of the great things about Glasgow 2014 is the signage. It is
:45:46. > :45:53.everywhere. I would surely these little venues, HMS Bangor, if you
:45:54. > :45:58.have been watching coverage, you will have seen that sitting along
:45:59. > :46:03.there. And the last oceangoing paddle steamer is also sitting
:46:04. > :46:10.there, about to leave at 10am. The funfair is sensational, can you see
:46:11. > :46:18.that? That little carousel. Andy Ferris wheel and behind we have that
:46:19. > :46:22.massive tower. They had an issue with that the other day, but these
:46:23. > :46:29.things happen. And right at the top, get inspired. The BBC website. That
:46:30. > :46:34.is a fantastic place to go to find out about sports you might not know
:46:35. > :46:38.much about. That will tell you great stories about athletes overcoming
:46:39. > :46:47.adversity. Many of them competing at the Commonwealth Games. Let us carry
:46:48. > :46:52.on wondering. It truly is beautiful this morning, on the south side of
:46:53. > :46:57.the river Clyde, this is massively important for Glasgow, the gateway
:46:58. > :47:01.to the world and behind me, that is the massive sound stage, they have
:47:02. > :47:12.got live concerts going on throughout, Simple Minds will be
:47:13. > :47:21.playing there. And look at these happy people. Are you happy to be
:47:22. > :47:25.here? What am I doing? I am presenting the sport! It is
:47:26. > :47:31.absolutely fabulous. Such a great achievement. Highlights? Watching
:47:32. > :47:35.the swimming and that young boy winning the goal medal, it was so
:47:36. > :47:42.emotional. And Hannah Miley was in tears. It just means so much to
:47:43. > :47:46.them. Enjoy the rest of the game. You will have a Cup of coffee,
:47:47. > :47:56.keeping the water, you need to stay hydrated! Splendid. We can go over
:47:57. > :48:05.here. Beg your pardon. We are 100% live, leaving the sun, some barriers
:48:06. > :48:07.here, this stage is here, there is lots of live stuff
:48:08. > :48:10.here, this stage is here, there is lots of going on and you can come
:48:11. > :48:17.here to watch these concerts, you need a ticket to get in here. Let us
:48:18. > :48:25.go round the back? Let us break the rules. Somebody might shout at me!
:48:26. > :48:31.Let us go up here and look at the stage. The amazing thing is, you
:48:32. > :48:37.need tickets but they are free. The thing is, I will wait until
:48:38. > :48:42.everybody gets out of shot. The great thing is, you can stand around
:48:43. > :48:50.here and get some sense of what is going on. You can stand over there,
:48:51. > :49:03.but this is the stage, Simple Minds were standing here. Lots of events
:49:04. > :49:06.going on through the weekend and I am walking around in circles and
:49:07. > :49:11.that is making it very difficult for the rest of the crew! Talking about
:49:12. > :49:20.circles, later on we will go to the velodrome and we will see Bradley
:49:21. > :49:24.Wiggins, he did not manage the medal last night but he did announce that
:49:25. > :49:28.he was thinking about focusing on the track cycling from this point
:49:29. > :49:33.onwards so what this means with his relationship with Team Sky will be
:49:34. > :49:38.revealed today we are focusing on the women well, the individual
:49:39. > :49:46.pursuit and the sprinters. And one man in particular, Jason Kenny. He
:49:47. > :49:56.comes from Bolton, he is a great sprinter. Jason Kenny! What a ride!
:49:57. > :50:02.He is the triple Olympic gold medallist. You need to be very
:50:03. > :50:07.smooth. Gold in London. Speed and tactics as well. A bit of tactics
:50:08. > :50:12.but the best tactic is speed, I would rather be in front and have
:50:13. > :50:21.rubbished tactics. I just want to win. Great Britain by the Olympic
:50:22. > :50:27.team sprint champions and look at this young man, what a future he has
:50:28. > :50:34.a head. That was quite a long time ago, I won in Beijing when I was 20
:50:35. > :50:38.and I am 26. Ever since I first started cycling from the age of 14,
:50:39. > :50:47.when London was first on the radar, that was my main goal, I was going
:50:48. > :50:52.to be 24 in theory, at my optimum. Kenny is the Olympic champion! He
:50:53. > :51:01.wins the gold medal. And he won this in style! What was London like? And
:51:02. > :51:08.what was it like afterwards? It was medal for a couple of weeks. But if
:51:09. > :51:11.you months down the line and it is not long before you slip back into
:51:12. > :51:18.normal life and you come back to training. And that was it, I wanted
:51:19. > :51:22.to go at the World Championships and I managed to get the gold medal.
:51:23. > :51:27.Jason Kenny is a world champion! When it really mattered! That was
:51:28. > :51:31.ready nice to go back to that performance, like I say, I was
:51:32. > :51:37.always looking forward to the next event and I never spend long patting
:51:38. > :51:42.myself on the back. Sir Chris Hoy left afterwards, you are the man
:51:43. > :51:49.that people will look to in terms of track cycling in Great Britain. That
:51:50. > :51:52.is nothing I ever would think about, I'm just focused on winning as many
:51:53. > :52:00.races as possible. Which is hard enough! It was hard when he was
:52:01. > :52:03.around, and it is not easy, the result was somebody battling,
:52:04. > :52:07.wanting to win. I am always fighting to win as many gold medals as
:52:08. > :52:16.possible. World Championship, Olympic gold, but no, no. It will
:52:17. > :52:21.not be easy. -- no Commonwealth. This will be a very good at all.
:52:22. > :52:28.Jason Kenny, such a fantastic cyclist. He is a great athlete and
:52:29. > :52:30.he will be on the board at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome later this
:52:31. > :52:38.morning and we will also join him there. Katie Archibald, the Scottish
:52:39. > :52:43.world champion, will look to block Juana Russell offer perch. The
:52:44. > :52:49.result going on, that is the live big-screen going on, but is going on
:52:50. > :52:53.with BBC One, keep it here because we will be going back to the hockey,
:52:54. > :52:58.India against Wales and not as busy as it has been around here. People
:52:59. > :53:04.have been burnt with the sunshine. Ladies and gentlemen, where are you
:53:05. > :53:10.from? Sterling. You have travelled 30 miles. Enjoying it so far?
:53:11. > :53:16.Brilliant. And I am really looking forward to the rugby at Ibrox. You
:53:17. > :53:23.will go there? I am a very big rugby fan. What do you think of the Home
:53:24. > :53:28.Nations, their chances? Australia and New Zealand are always so
:53:29. > :53:35.strong. I think New Zealand will do it. Why is that? They are so
:53:36. > :53:39.dominant. But in sevens rugby they just put together in credible sides.
:53:40. > :53:44.They are just so strong in the rugby. The southern hemisphere.
:53:45. > :53:50.Hopefully we will do something but I think it will be New Zealand. Thank
:53:51. > :53:55.you. Let us go back to the live action here on BBC Three. Earlier on
:53:56. > :53:59.we were alive with the hockey, India against Wales. 1-1 at half-time.
:54:00. > :54:18.Sean and Leslie have the commentary. Kettle, he has been with an
:54:19. > :54:25.efficient in the first-half. Very good in the space in front of him
:54:26. > :54:39.and beside him. He has repelled five or six shots. The early morning
:54:40. > :54:43.sheen on the turf. Some collaboration between the umpires
:54:44. > :54:50.and already, India are staking their claim. Penalty corner. This is where
:54:51. > :54:56.they have that big weapon. Look at that lovely skill, lifting the ball
:54:57. > :55:06.over, that left touch. And another opportunity for this Indian
:55:07. > :55:13.strikeforce. Chinglensana Kangujam, looking to the baseline and he will
:55:14. > :55:32.look to flick the sin. To number three, Rupinder. Three or 12. From
:55:33. > :55:36.the base. Quick. It is Rupinder. He did not look like he was expecting
:55:37. > :55:40.that. It looked like he went for the wrong option and it was not very
:55:41. > :55:49.tidy. He did not quite get that timing sorted out. Dispossessed. He
:55:50. > :56:00.might have a card. That was deliberate, that delay. Green card.
:56:01. > :56:04.He was delaying that Welsh attack. We can see here, leaning on the back
:56:05. > :56:10.of the Welsh player deliberately. Just breaking that down. Two
:56:11. > :56:31.minutes, India will play with team players. Michael Shaw gets it
:56:32. > :56:44.across. Against Huw Jones, the most experienced of the Welsh players.
:56:45. > :57:03.122 caps for his country. Rupinder to receive. Sardar Singh has that.
:57:04. > :57:09.And the long corner. Rupinder. That long drive, he leaves it for the
:57:10. > :57:16.shot and he put the ball there. He cannot go through the player. They
:57:17. > :57:31.are making inroads, they are more purposeful.
:57:32. > :57:45.It was interesting that despite the temperature, they did not watch the
:57:46. > :57:55.turf at half-time. -- water. Things might quicken? Yes. The temperature
:57:56. > :58:04.is creeping up. It is still quite early. There are still enough water
:58:05. > :58:09.in this turf to last. They did not bother at half-time. One of the
:58:10. > :58:14.indications when you see the ball dancing and not, it does get very
:58:15. > :58:23.deep into the turf, that takes away any danger. And the danger is to the
:58:24. > :58:26.players, isn't it? The reason they water these services is if it was
:58:27. > :58:31.dry, there would be too much grip and would be the danger to the knees
:58:32. > :58:38.and ankles from twisting and dislocating. The
:58:39. > :58:38.and ankles from twisting and again under pressure. Andy Welsh
:58:39. > :58:43.will fancy their chances. They will again under pressure. Andy Welsh
:58:44. > :58:51.know that they were fragile at World Cup time in India. They lost
:58:52. > :58:52.important games against Belgium and England in the dying minutes of the
:58:53. > :59:03.pool game. Whether of fitness concentration, but this
:59:04. > :59:10.is a much different level. But there is still that fragility. But does
:59:11. > :59:19.show the confidence of the players. They are missing that belief at the
:59:20. > :59:24.moment. Man for man, the skill level of these teams, India is higher. But
:59:25. > :59:28.it is the teamwork of Wales that has been fantastic, the way that they
:59:29. > :59:31.have watched defensively to keep the Indians down to only one goal. --
:59:32. > :59:58.worked. And across to the left-hand side for
:59:59. > :00:03.India. Stretching. That is enough, that is enough.
:00:04. > :00:13.Chance for India in the circle, penalty corner time. Danish again
:00:14. > :00:20.showing the lovely little skills, really clever putting netball, look
:00:21. > :00:24.at that, back onto the foot. Very frustrating as a defender because
:00:25. > :00:25.you have to be so careful against these guys and the skill levels they
:00:26. > :00:35.have. The umpire giving the defenders the
:00:36. > :00:46.countdown on that clock to get their gear on. Dharamvir Singh to drag it
:00:47. > :00:59.from the baseline. Number three is Rupinder Singh. Usually they have
:01:00. > :01:07.two. What they goal, the six frame of Rupinder Singh. -- the six foot
:01:08. > :01:13.four frame. But the Indians ahead once again. Lovely corner routine.
:01:14. > :01:16.Drifted across opposite the post, to expose the post, Kettle could not
:01:17. > :01:22.quite get there, did not adjust well. It was the pace that beat the
:01:23. > :01:29.keeper, superb finish. Wales already into their work. Smacking it across
:01:30. > :01:32.into the circle, hoping again for a little loss of skill level but it
:01:33. > :01:43.does not happen. Chandi has the ball.
:01:44. > :02:02.The goal-scorer surrounds the ball carrier. Jones. Catches the foot of
:02:03. > :02:12.the Indian, they move away. James Kyriakides has the ball for Wales.
:02:13. > :02:41.little skills of their own. Rhys Gowman gets dispossessed. Chandi on
:02:42. > :02:50.the counterattack. Quick legs, into the circle, little touch. Mopped
:02:51. > :02:56.up. Kettle again with a stick save. The Welsh defender there to pick the
:02:57. > :03:03.ball up out of defence. From something nearly a third for India.
:03:04. > :03:10.Are we starting to see glimpses of the team ranked ninth in the world?
:03:11. > :03:23.Great little saved by Kettle. With his stick.
:03:24. > :03:41.Swainson. They still fancy their chances, Wales. Goal-scorer Cornick.
:03:42. > :03:46.It is important for Wales that they keep a lid on this, they do not want
:03:47. > :04:02.it to drift. But they do not want to get stretched either. They have a
:04:03. > :04:09.player in the circle. Thimmaiah was not at the World Cup, they are
:04:10. > :04:12.looking ahead to the Asian games, if they win that they get entry into
:04:13. > :04:38.the Rio Olympics. These young players have a big job to
:04:39. > :04:46.The Welsh team have put the miles in, up front and in defence. Working
:04:47. > :04:57.together. Waiting for the whistle a little bit again. The umpires
:04:58. > :05:04.checking the right decision has been made. Excellent control from both
:05:05. > :05:05.umpires today. Very stern and strong on anybody play, they do not want
:05:06. > :05:36.the skills to degenerate. Rupinder. Keeps the ball in play,
:05:37. > :05:44.real chance here. Goal number three. Looking for the goal-scorer, is it
:05:45. > :06:08.Chandi getting the congratulations? It looks like Gurinder Chandi,
:06:09. > :06:12.clever interplay. Govinda Gurwinder -- Chandi scores the third. Goal
:06:13. > :06:19.number three, 23 minutes left in this match. Already in the opening
:06:20. > :06:26.salvos of the second half India have broken the stalemate. 1-1 at
:06:27. > :06:34.half-time and a Rupinder Singh drag flick and is now a Gurwinder Chandi
:06:35. > :06:51.exquisite skill set has taken that scoreline to 3-1. The skipper,
:06:52. > :06:57.playing with more confidence. The triangle passing. Especially on the
:06:58. > :07:07.left flank. But do not count out the Welsh. Already they have scored, and
:07:08. > :07:22.drawn level. Now the chance for Hugh Jones. To get it across the face.
:07:23. > :07:25.They have done a lot of running. Jones just trying to get the ball
:07:26. > :07:49.across, that would have been interesting if that had gone in but
:07:50. > :07:52.a dangerous cross obviously. Again the figure of Chandi hovering in
:07:53. > :08:02.front of the goalkeeper. Sardar Singh off-loads. And again three
:08:03. > :08:13.Indian players in the circle waiting for the touch but Wales come out
:08:14. > :08:14.with the ball. Subtle skills from their captain. Across to the right
:08:15. > :08:26.flank this time. And again really starting to show
:08:27. > :08:40.confidence now. Little stick Saints, body faints. -- feints. He is
:08:41. > :08:45.shielding the ball from the defender. The ball is behind him,
:08:46. > :08:52.the defender cannot get to it, using his shoulder. He gets penalised for
:08:53. > :08:59.that. I was waiting for the card, actually. Interesting watching the

:09:58. > :10:21.Games. More authoritative now, India, with
:10:22. > :10:31.their passing. And the high player hovering has got the ball. Looking
:10:32. > :10:39.to just team up, but again Wales able to just spoil India's party. Up
:10:40. > :10:43.the left flank, cannot keep control, Rhys Gowman. But he gets the
:10:44. > :10:52.whistle, taking it quickly. Brignull. Time for India to get back
:10:53. > :10:59.and put their defensive screen in place. Tough ask, it keeps it in.
:11:00. > :11:10.Kyriakides. And a drive into the circle. Hard angle. It is a
:11:11. > :11:16.difficult one, especially with the ball getting across, but Wales at
:11:17. > :11:23.times showing that they can get in the right areas. Some of the final

:12:25. > :12:30.for the body check but the ball had been pushed too far away. Good
:12:31. > :12:34.decision by the umpires. Always an element as well but you cannot go
:12:35. > :12:40.through a player. India push again, looking for the foot, they do not
:12:41. > :12:54.get it. Still Wales keep trying, Brignull. They have added much to
:12:55. > :12:58.this game, the Welsh. They have made India worked very hard for that

:13:22. > :13:26.Saving the legs for Wales as they are looking for the opening but they

:13:53. > :13:58.that in rugby union or football. David Kettle adding another
:13:59. > :14:02.dimension to the goalkeeping skills. Very aerial. You have to be careful
:14:03. > :14:11.because it can be dangerous. Spectacular. The crowd love it. I
:14:12. > :14:19.think any young person would. Chance at goal now. Play on. Those
:14:20. > :14:41.exquisite skills in close. The little strong wrists. And again
:14:42. > :14:50.willing defence. Slightly under hit. Almost too much stick underneath,
:14:51. > :14:56.now through the middle. One of the most underrated skills. There we
:14:57. > :15:10.are, miscommunication. The tackling skill, and on the reverse side, has
:15:11. > :15:15.been very good from Wales today. And that every of Welsh players looking
:15:16. > :15:20.to rotate onto the field. There are five of them standing, waiting to
:15:21. > :15:39.give their team-mates out-brake in this heat. -- that bevy. The Indians
:15:40. > :16:06.will be searching for more. That little turnover was untidy. As Wales
:16:07. > :16:10.once again drive into the attack. That little quick pass, this is a
:16:11. > :16:17.way to do it if you are a young person watching the hockey. It
:16:18. > :16:37.breaks down where it counts, in the circle. He has got a lot of pace but

:16:48. > :16:51.down as you get to your opponent to make sure you have more balanced to
:16:52. > :16:59.use the ball. That is part of the learning process. Peter Swainson
:17:00. > :17:07.goes back, he cannot keep hold of it. Still trying, Wales. They might
:17:08. > :17:09.be down on the scoreboard but they are continuing to take the
:17:10. > :17:33.opportunities. Here is the cornerstone at the back.
:17:34. > :17:45.Rupinder, he appears again. Just redistributing.
:17:46. > :18:01.Careful with the ball, India. Clever. And the difference that we
:18:02. > :18:03.saw when Canada try to do this, they just lost possession but this time
:18:04. > :18:18.India have kept possession. Wales are having to work just so
:18:19. > :18:22.hard just to get onto the ball at the moment, India are happy to play
:18:23. > :18:25.the ball at the back, they have that cushion. They are making this Welsh
:18:26. > :18:39.team run and run without the ball. This is absorbing as India search
:18:40. > :18:47.for that entry point into the circle. That little skill, rather
:18:48. > :18:59.than the direct pass. Although we know that is in their armoury. He
:19:00. > :19:05.still has that shot at the goal. There was patient build-up and
:19:06. > :19:07.eventually filled up with that -- ended up with that long ball into
:19:08. > :19:28.the D. He had to rush that shot. Looking to make that ball go
:19:29. > :19:51.forward. Do you think India will be content
:19:52. > :19:57.with the scoreline? They have that advantage. The intensity seems to
:19:58. > :20:02.have gone out of their game? What they are doing at the moment is the
:20:03. > :20:06.iron showing the ball on the stick because Wales are just so tired and
:20:07. > :20:13.they are just probing, they are being patient about their build-up.
:20:14. > :20:18.They have scored three out of 12 shots and Wales really have not had
:20:19. > :20:32.much in the second half, I do nothing. They have an opportunity,
:20:33. > :20:39.but it was well covered. Quickly taken. Chandi on the left flank,
:20:40. > :20:49.striding through, making the Welsh backpedal. That is the kind of thing
:20:50. > :20:51.India will be frustrated with, the way that they have given the ball
:20:52. > :21:10.away too often. James Kyriakides steals the ball,
:21:11. > :21:18.and across the goal. I thought that it caught the Indian stick, but no.
:21:19. > :21:22.Trying to meet that bouncing ball and maybe if he was lower with his
:21:23. > :21:26.hands down, imagine playing with your hand, almost, and you will have
:21:27. > :21:36.more of a chance with those dancing crosses. But another opportunity.
:21:37. > :21:52.Into the circle. That pass was just not accurate. It has to be so
:21:53. > :22:04.precise. Birendra Lakra, across. Sardar Singh. Here it comes! David
:22:05. > :22:10.Kettle, superb goalkeeping. And across the face again, another
:22:11. > :22:14.chance. That little sneaky shot! That got the crowd going. It
:22:15. > :22:49.certainly had David Kettle going. India, again. He must have picked up
:22:50. > :22:54.a little food? -- foot. The 40 seconds have started. All other
:22:55. > :23:02.protective gear, the mask and the box. We can look at that incident.
:23:03. > :23:16.Tiny little foot. By James Kyriakides. So, dangerous moment for
:23:17. > :23:23.Wales. You talked about India being patient. This is where it could pay
:23:24. > :23:34.off. 12 and three hovering at the top. That is Rupinder. And David
:23:35. > :23:41.Kettle reads that perfectly. And the crowd gets behind him. Still not
:23:42. > :23:46.finished! Efficient getting the ball out. And it will come again. And
:23:47. > :23:57.again, David Kettle makes another save. It is all happening! 90 macro
:23:58. > :24:04.is the hero for Wales. -- David Kettle. That great sequence from
:24:05. > :24:09.David Kettle. He will really have loved that. We talked about that,
:24:10. > :24:16.looking to make the Great Britain side. He has played in Malaysia and
:24:17. > :24:29.Australia and in the Premier League of English hockey.
:24:30. > :24:48.The crowd urging the Welsh on. Peter Swainson loses the ball. I often
:24:49. > :24:54.think that the goalkeeper is the most important player on the field.
:24:55. > :25:03.You will have played with very good goalkeepers through your gold-medal
:25:04. > :25:11.era? It helps! I know that you are also a goalkeeper. Just having a
:25:12. > :25:17.look at this recent sequence of events. The first one, beautiful.
:25:18. > :25:22.Straight to the Indian attacker and another save. Pulling the ball away
:25:23. > :25:30.from the danger area, which is the mark of a very good goalkeeper. And
:25:31. > :25:35.that was just two of those. He has balanced beautifully, he is an
:25:36. > :25:41.athlete, David Kettle. And he helps get possession. They have done that
:25:42. > :25:54.some lead times in this match. There is some tiredness creeping in. 3.5
:25:55. > :26:00.minutes left, 1-1 at half-time. The 20th minute of the first half, India
:26:01. > :26:11.went ahead but three minutes later, Wales drew level. There are not
:26:12. > :26:21.giving up, the team in red and black. Strong, hard tackle.
:26:22. > :26:29.Uncompromising, looking for another goal, Wales. Andrew Cornick is
:26:30. > :26:43.there, who scored that goal for Wales. Gurbaj Singh comes away with
:26:44. > :26:57.the ball. The skipper for India, Sardar Singh. He is running with
:26:58. > :27:02.freedom and space. This is the part of the game but India are growing
:27:03. > :27:07.for themselves. When something is not on, just holding the ball
:27:08. > :27:11.instead of thrusting forward relentlessly. Yes, patience is
:27:12. > :27:17.something they are trying to bring into the structure. Because it is
:27:18. > :27:23.very tiring if you keep running and losing the ball. If you can build
:27:24. > :27:26.out attacks by better quality attacks and you can be more patient,
:27:27. > :27:44.that is something they will be working towards. India coached by
:27:45. > :27:52.Terry Walsh, himself a former goal medallist for Australia. -- gold
:27:53. > :28:03.medallist. Again, right on the sideline and
:28:04. > :28:36.stretching that ball. This is the skipper, just holding
:28:37. > :28:40.the ball. Showing the magic that we have come to expect from India. They
:28:41. > :28:51.will just be happy to keep that on the right-hand side.
:28:52. > :29:01.Wales, have they got one final fling? Over the baseline. Not to be
:29:02. > :29:06.outdone. Just 20 seconds left on the clock. And Wales have another foray
:29:07. > :29:16.into that Indian defence. Look at that, very close indeed. He has
:29:17. > :29:21.worked hard all day. Kudos, as the hooter goes for Wales. One point in
:29:22. > :29:29.the opening match. The first session, it goes to India. Superior
:29:30. > :29:34.ranking and skills but what a match! 1-1 at half-time and there was some
:29:35. > :29:45.magic in the second half. Better control in the end from India. But
:29:46. > :29:52.David Kettle will look back. 3-1, India over Wales.
:29:53. > :29:58.India will be happy with those points. They will, but the kind of
:29:59. > :30:03.margin of victory they would have thought might happen before the game
:30:04. > :30:10.but the Welsh team played very well. They defended resolutely. All of the
:30:11. > :30:14.first-half and even caused India some problems themselves. In the
:30:15. > :30:20.second half, I think Wales got more tired and India began to put more
:30:21. > :30:27.pressure on and eventually, those penalty corners showed. Let us look
:30:28. > :30:33.at the statistics. Look at that. In the second half, India had another
:30:34. > :30:42.ten shots against goal. And overall, the Welsh team, well... India
:30:43. > :30:48.deserved fit early. That is memorable from Wales. Of that strife
:30:49. > :30:55.from James Kyriakides. And Andrew Cornick got that little deflection.
:30:56. > :31:05.They know how hard the Welsh can work, what will it take? One thing
:31:06. > :31:12.is for sure, David Kettle has put down his mark as a goalkeeper in the
:31:13. > :31:18.standings. India have those points. Wales, three goals against them. Not
:31:19. > :31:35.many would have predicted that the head of this game, -- that ahead of
:31:36. > :31:41.the scheme. Brilliant conditions. -- this game. Very good win for India,
:31:42. > :31:46.Wales 1-1 at half-time but they could not hang on to the superior

:35:40. > :35:47.Happy and smiley. And Ian Harrison, at the triathlon. Is it his wife or
:35:48. > :35:55.sister? Maybe his daughter. I have no idea. There is Clyde the mascot,
:35:56. > :36:00.keep sending those in using the hashtag Commonwelfie. I cannot get
:36:01. > :36:04.that right, it is complicated. We will go to Badminton now, Wales
:36:05. > :36:11.taking on Canada in the mixed team event. We are now going to the
:36:12. > :36:37.women's singles. COMMENTATOR: Nice symmetry but
:36:38. > :36:50.really should have been a better scoreline. Michelle Li was fully
:36:51. > :36:54.focused throughout the match. Plenty of action going on on some of the

:37:18. > :37:32.The start of both games was pretty close. 6-6 in the first game, 7-7 in
:37:33. > :37:45.the second. It was around the net that this woman was able to
:37:46. > :37:52.dominate. The serve not quite good enough which allowed Michelle Li to
:37:53. > :38:06.clinch the first game. Turner played well overhead. But in the forecourt
:38:07. > :38:14.was always struggling. Moving back to cover the left. Really struggled

:02:39. > :02:45.who struggled in qualifying, only 11th fastest. Had to come through

:03:16. > :03:25.needs to bring some tactics in this race, cannot rely on his speed. .5

:03:42. > :03:53.Glaetzer, he has gone early can he hang on? Jason Kenny will try to
:03:54. > :03:58.lead this one out the hard way. From the front. Glaetzer closing in
:03:59. > :04:03.overtime. We'll Jason Kenny hang on? More than that, he takes the first
:04:04. > :04:14.race. You said it was about tactics, Rob. It worked for him. You do not
:04:15. > :04:20.see that very often. Against Sir Chris Hoy people used to go for the
:04:21. > :04:24.long one. They had to take the advantage. Jason Kenny certainly
:04:25. > :04:30.made the most of that. I do not think he will be allowed to do that
:04:31. > :04:35.again. He really needed it. He needed to take Glaetzer unawares,
:04:36. > :04:41.get the distance. Then it was just about holding on. His coach on the
:04:42. > :04:46.inside, giving him the thumbs up, saying this is good but you need to
:04:47. > :04:52.keep this going. Down the back straight Glaetzer was trying to get
:04:53. > :04:56.into his slipstream. But he-man out of track. Kenny knew what a tough
:04:57. > :05:01.matchup this would be because the parent them raced against each other
:05:02. > :05:04.in a final in Mexico in one of the World Cup meetings last winter and
:05:05. > :05:09.the Australian came out on top. Jason Kenny leading from the front
:05:10. > :05:20.from a long way out. A big effort. It paid off. Already had an extra
:05:21. > :05:30.ride in this competition coming through repechage, and that was a
:05:31. > :05:37.big effort. He will need to warm down properly to get the lactic acid
:05:38. > :05:43.out of his legs. Action flick and fast, the second race ready to go,
:05:44. > :05:47.Matt Crampton, 28. Another rider who came through the first round
:05:48. > :05:51.repechage, up against Eddie Dawkins, who won the team sprint with New
:05:52. > :05:54.Zealand yesterday afternoon. He is a world champion in the team sprint
:05:55. > :06:00.already sent already a gold medal in his pocket. Crampton is silver
:06:01. > :06:05.medallist in Melbourne, in 2006, that was in the team sprint. Into
:06:06. > :06:18.the last eight here in the match sprint. Dawkins second qualifier
:06:19. > :06:26.yesterday in 9.818. Nor .4 seconds difference, Crampton slower.
:06:27. > :06:31.Crampton will have to use all of his skills as a sprinter rather than
:06:32. > :06:35.relying on his speed. He is just not as quick as Dawkins. The Kiwis
:06:36. > :06:41.really have come on strong in the sprint events in the last few years.
:06:42. > :06:51.Crampton certainly experienced, European keirin champion from three

:07:00. > :07:05.effect here. Dawkins holding the inside line, halfway round the final
:07:06. > :07:12.lap, this will be close. Then Dawkins looks as though he has the
:07:13. > :07:17.speed. And he has the legs. Matt Crampton tried to use the height of
:07:18. > :07:21.the banking to get a good run on Dawkins but Dawkins kept him on his
:07:22. > :07:27.hip meaning Crampton had to go around the long way. That is the
:07:28. > :07:30.hard way to do it. Even with this long home straight which allows
:07:31. > :07:33.riders to come out even with this long home straight which allows
:07:34. > :07:37.riders to come out and have more of a chance of overtaking up the home
:07:38. > :07:46.straight he just was not able to do it. I am not sure Dawkins has ever
:07:47. > :07:55.been in better form. He has looked blisteringly fast. Not only
:07:56. > :07:58.physically are they stronger. They also have the psychological
:07:59. > :08:02.advantage that they have already got a win, world champions in the team
:08:03. > :08:16.sprint this year. It is a toff one. When you get the momentum, it really
:08:17. > :08:25.lifts everybody's morale. Time and again we see the British riders, it
:08:26. > :08:29.is all about the Olympic cycle. The situation they are in now is not
:08:30. > :08:44.unfamiliar. It is a template they have moved to great effect in the
:08:45. > :08:49.last two Olympic cycles. The expectation is that every time a
:08:50. > :08:53.British rider puts on their skin suit and gets on the boards we
:08:54. > :09:01.expect so much from them. But ultimately it is about the Olympics
:09:02. > :09:07.and that is how they prioritise. Webster in the Black of New Zealand.

:09:43. > :09:47.Yes, better known in the keirin, he is electrifying. Tactics is
:09:48. > :09:53.something that he really does bring in. These two are not hanging
:09:54. > :09:58.around, there is no cat and mouse. Elbows and eyeballs out all the way

:10:08. > :10:16.Webster takes it. These riders relatively closely matched on speed,
:10:17. > :10:25.only 0.2 of a second on qualification yesterday. Really

:16:50. > :16:54.afternoon, it is a new day, wipe the slate clean, it has proven, you
:16:55. > :16:58.know, really good this morning. Matthew Crampton lost his fist race
:16:59. > :17:02.against Edward Dawkins, the way he raced? I think, you know, he is up
:17:03. > :17:06.against it, in terms of the difference in pace. Edward Dawkins
:17:07. > :17:14.has got so much gas at the moment, he is flying. It is tough when on
:17:15. > :17:17.paper you don't have the pace. Matt is experienced, he performed well
:17:18. > :17:24.but he didn't have the gas in the tank. Your pick to win this? Sam
:17:25. > :17:28.Webster. He was good in the team sprint yesterday. You were talking
:17:29. > :17:33.about the fact he was perhaps spinning a smaller gear today. It
:17:34. > :17:37.looked as though, to my eye looked as if he had come down the gear

:17:51. > :17:54.looks good out there and he races very well, in terms of the match
:17:55. > :18:00.sprint, the tactics. The idea, I guess, is not to give your muscles a

:18:05. > :18:07.fatiguing over a long sprint competition, he started out
:18:08. > :18:11.yesterday, they have a recovery overnight and come back strong this

:18:54. > :19:00.pedal as a slower cadence and you have to train very hard to adapt to
:19:01. > :19:04.that. The times get quicker. The endurance riders are using bigger
:19:05. > :19:09.gears and you can see people ask how do records keep getting broken? They
:19:10. > :19:16.think it is new bikes and equipment, it is about the, it is evolution in
:19:17. > :19:19.gear size. You have this balance between a muscular fatigue and
:19:20. > :19:26.almost your heart, and in your cadence and how hard you are pushing
:19:27. > :19:29.that. Yes you can reach a cadence fatigue where you can't pedal any
:19:30. > :19:32.quicker because your legs are going round so fast, you get the muscular
:19:33. > :19:35.fatigue because you have pushed that bigger gear, so you are trying to
:19:36. > :19:40.find the balance and that is why people are using gym work, they are
:19:41. > :19:44.going on on the road bike, different training for different athletes to
:19:45. > :19:49.help them get the strength they need. You look back on the road, and
:19:50. > :19:53.I know it is different from the track and we talked about Lance
:19:54. > :19:57.Armstrong, you look at Chris Froome and he pedals very fast up the
:19:58. > :20:01.hills, is that a different energy management that is going on there?
:20:02. > :20:12.It is all relative. You look at what you call very fast cadence, you are
:20:13. > :20:18.looking at 100 RPM. When it is unloaded, on a static bike we have
:20:19. > :20:23.hit over 322 RPM on a static bike, it is a if the rent athlete, and it
:20:24. > :20:28.is really, it is about finding that optimum cadence, it is not the same
:20:29. > :20:34.for every athlete. The higher cadence you are on a fixed wheel as
:20:35. > :20:39.wit, it may not seem it, you are pushing against yourself, so it is
:20:40. > :20:45.about that cord nation, and you think peddling a bike is easy but it
:20:46. > :20:51.is the co-ordination... 320. No bounce, up and down. It is a blur.
:20:52. > :20:56.Let us focus on the individual pursuit now for women. Your event,
:20:57. > :21:02.and this is fascinating because you are got the five team pursuit girls
:21:03. > :21:08.from Team GB facing up against each other We have got eight riders from
:21:09. > :21:14.the Home Nations here, we have also got the five team pursuiters, we
:21:15. > :21:17.have Amy Roberts. Anna Turvey and Ciara Horne so there is eight girls
:21:18. > :21:22.here and they are vying for a place in rye you in 2016. But this is the
:21:23. > :21:27.individual vent. Subtly different. No wheels to hide on. No changes in
:21:28. > :21:30.the bankings, but I think the favourite has to be Joanna Rowsell
:21:31. > :21:34.after her World Championship in Colombia earlier this year. And from
:21:35. > :21:38.a Scottish point of view, I think everybody is very keen to see what
:21:39. > :21:44.happen Katie Archibald does. She is a ballsy rider if I can put it so
:21:45. > :21:47.bluntly. He is scared of nobody She is fantastic, I have been working
:21:48. > :21:50.with her on the road, she is a brilliant rider to have round. She
:21:51. > :21:55.is bubbly, she is just so driven as well, and she is going to have the
:21:56. > :22:00.support of this crowd behind her, there will be will be an extra level
:22:01. > :22:04.for Katie, she is a brilliant rider. You will have to look out for her
:22:05. > :22:10.hair colour. We expect it to be blue and white You can never tell with
:22:11. > :22:15.Katie. She is a breath of fresh air is Katie. She stepped into an
:22:16. > :22:18.Olympic winning team. She is now world record holder. Nothing seems
:22:19. > :22:22.to phase her, this will be a breakthrough Championship for her,
:22:23. > :22:26.she has been seen as a team play e this is her chance to shine
:22:27. > :22:30.individually. She hasn't been one of the Scottish poster girls or boys,
:22:31. > :22:34.not like an Eilidh Child or Jamieson, she has been under the
:22:35. > :22:38.radar. She has, she will be stepping out from the shadows a bit here, and
:22:39. > :22:43.you know, the crowd are going to go wild for her, it is an amazing
:22:44. > :22:49.story, she has not been doing it for that long, she joined my cycling
:22:50. > :22:53.club in Edinburgh and she started racing at Meadowbank and Glasgow and
:22:54. > :22:58.it has been amazing 12 months. Didn't she start with grass racing?
:22:59. > :23:05.Yes, grass track and the national road championships just over 12
:23:06. > :23:10.months ago, she rode the time trials and came in top ten. She is
:23:11. > :23:15.flourishing, she is an immense talent. The riders everybody will
:23:16. > :23:19.know are Laura Trott and Dani King from London 2012. What should we
:23:20. > :23:23.expect from them? This is an interesting challenge for them, the
:23:24. > :23:26.team pursuit, they have used it as an opportunity to peak for a pursuit
:23:27. > :23:29.type vent in the summer, normally for the World Championships you get
:23:30. > :23:32.the opportunity to go through the World Cup series and peak for the
:23:33. > :23:35.World Championships, whereas for Rio, it is a summer programme so
:23:36. > :23:39.they will be coming off a road programme and into the Olympic Games
:23:40. > :23:42.in the team pursuit. So subtly different preparation, so it will be
:23:43. > :23:47.interesting to see how the girls go here and they have the bunch race,
:23:48. > :23:52.there is no Omnium for Laura here, so it will be interesting to see how
:23:53. > :23:56.they balance it out. As Dani King got something to prove? We have seen
:23:57. > :24:02.some of the team pursuit. She has perhaps lost the wheel. You have
:24:03. > :24:05.Elinor Barker from Wales as well. Katie Archibald has come in. Do you
:24:06. > :24:09.think she has pressure on her shoulders. I think it will be a
:24:10. > :24:14.battle royal, because they have the incredible team pursuiters from
:24:15. > :24:18.Australia. Although they have never topped the British girls Amy Cure is
:24:19. > :24:24.a good rider, so we can't discount the Australians and the New Zealand
:24:25. > :24:30.girls, Jaime Nielsen has, and Ernie Els and they are coming back --
:24:31. > :24:35.Ellis. So, we are not sure what the Kiwi girls will be capable of. We
:24:36. > :24:42.need not be too blinkered about the Home Nations. We saw with last
:24:43. > :24:47.night, the one you don't expect to Ieuan Wyn Joneses, and it is
:24:48. > :24:53.interest -- to win, wins. People know Laura Trott, they know Dani
:24:54. > :24:56.King but Katie Archibald will come in with something to prove. They
:24:57. > :25:00.work for each other and train with each other, day in, day out, they
:25:01. > :25:04.are competitors, they wouldn't in that position if they weren't. This
:25:05. > :25:09.is a chance the shine individually and there is a bit of pride at
:25:10. > :25:12.stake. In terms of the pain, we heard Bradley talking about having a
:25:13. > :25:17.bit of holiday on the track last night. But this is your event,
:25:18. > :25:21.Sarah, give us an idea of how tough it is? You are trying to get out the
:25:22. > :25:25.start gate ass possible to get up to speed, in a similar way the girls
:25:26. > :25:28.will be used to in the team pursuits. You are trying to keep a
:25:29. > :25:34.bit in reserve, you want to make sure you have something for the
:25:35. > :25:40.second kilo and final kilo as well. Where they will be used to the third
:25:41. > :25:44.kilometre, in an individual pursuit you don't have that. In team pursuit
:25:45. > :25:48.you drift out in the straights to give your team a nice line so even
:25:49. > :25:52.is getting the shelter, here you will want to be on the black line,
:25:53. > :25:56.if not under slightly to make sure you have shortest way round the
:25:57. > :26:02.track. When it is hitting the pain you have to push through. Cadence is
:26:03. > :26:08.important as well and the cadence the sprinters have got up the 200
:26:09. > :26:12.RMM. They will need to control that. They will have a slightly slower
:26:13. > :26:18.cadence but not too low otherwise the gay gear will get too big for
:26:19. > :26:22.them. It is tactic, and really good precision when they get on there.
:26:23. > :26:25.How much do you do in training? I know the cyclists at home will be
:26:26. > :26:31.fascinated, to get that balance which works for you, what works for
:26:32. > :26:35.one might not work for another, that sort of equation? It is trial and
:26:36. > :26:39.errors and you know, you just, you go up and down through the gears,
:26:40. > :26:43.you wouldn't necessarily use the same for every effort, in every
:26:44. > :26:49.session, you would go, build up to the session and see maybe like a
:26:50. > :26:52.bell curve in the middle. There is an optimum speed, cadence, gears and
:26:53. > :26:56.you learn through trial and errors but it is interesting because you
:26:57. > :26:59.don't reach your peak form until the last minute so you have to make the
:27:00. > :27:03.decisions fairly close to competition as to what gear you can
:27:04. > :27:08.use, on the day you can change your opinion depending on conditions, on
:27:09. > :27:14.the track, on how you feel. Sop the way this works, is it is a
:27:15. > :27:18.time trial for this morning and the top two will race against gold and
:27:19. > :27:23.the next two would go for the bronze. For the top athlete, are Tay
:27:24. > :27:28.looking perhaps to hold a bit back or is this going to be a flat out
:27:29. > :27:32.effort? We have ten heats of the qualification, if you look at Dani
:27:33. > :27:36.King going in heat six, she will have four heats. That is eight
:27:37. > :27:40.riders going off her, she won't have any tactic, it will be a full gas
:27:41. > :27:44.effort. As you move down, when you get to Katie and Joanna in the final
:27:45. > :27:48.two heats they will know the times that have been posted before them.
:27:49. > :27:56.They may have the opportunity to adjust their schedule but we expect
:27:57. > :27:59.the likes of Elinor, Amy Cure, they will post fast times so I don't
:28:00. > :28:06.think will have the chance to qualify comfortably. It will be two
:28:07. > :28:10.full gas efforts today. Jamaica and India are going at the
:28:11. > :28:14.moment. Looking down the order, in the third race off will be Anna
:28:15. > :28:18.Turvey of Scotland. Do you know too much about her? This will be a
:28:19. > :28:22.massive occasion for he she is delighted to be here, you never
:28:23. > :28:27.really know what is going to happen, it is your first major Championship,
:28:28. > :28:31.hopefully she will enjoy it, post a personal Bank of Scotland. I don't
:28:32. > :28:35.think we expect to see her in the medal conenion, but you never know,
:28:36. > :28:39.you saw in the swimming yesterday, the expected champion didn't quite
:28:40. > :28:45.make it. And bark b of Wales, we haven't talked about he a young
:28:46. > :28:50.rider, come into the team, again, not one of the better known name,
:28:51. > :28:53.how would you see her going today? She is a junior World Champion from
:28:54. > :28:57.the road and came into the team pursuit after the games in London
:28:58. > :29:01.and is a World Champion on the track twice over. She is an incredible
:29:02. > :29:05.talent and has been riding well on the road. She rode well at the
:29:06. > :29:09.national Championships and is coming into the track season as it starts
:29:10. > :29:15.after we come home from the Commonwealth Gameses can, she has a
:29:16. > :29:20.great chance. She rode the individual pursuit last winter. So,
:29:21. > :29:23.she is one to watch out for, it is interesting talking about Anna
:29:24. > :29:26.Turvey, she was a triathlete 12 months ago she has come in from a
:29:27. > :29:32.time trial background, the first time she came on the track she rode
:29:33. > :29:37.a 3 minutes 40 without any previous experience, now she has had a few
:29:38. > :29:40.weeks the the team and she has had a few experts about her, it will be
:29:41. > :29:47.interesting to see what time she can get. We have the men's IP coming up
:29:48. > :29:59.later. We are surprised, Chris, that Bradley didn't decide to ride that
:30:00. > :30:03.one. He decided to give it a skip. It would have made sense, it would
:30:04. > :30:07.have been good for the crowd. We are expecting Jack Bobridge from
:30:08. > :30:10.Australia to be the man to beat, the world record holder. Not sure of the
:30:11. > :30:19.reasons behind that, maybe he has to get back to the day job. Interesting
:30:20. > :30:25.interview he gave to Jill Douglas yesterday about the politics of road
:30:26. > :30:30.racing. He seems a little bit jaded with the road cycling. You never
:30:31. > :30:38.know what is going on behind the scenes. He has clearly enjoyed being
:30:39. > :30:44.back on the track. You never know with Bradley. With him now it is
:30:45. > :30:51.about focusing on radio, and the Paris-Roubaix. -- focusing on the
:30:52. > :30:57.road. What about the dynamics between road and track and the
:30:58. > :31:01.atmosphere in the teams? On a road cycling team you have to put your
:31:02. > :31:06.efforts behind one rider who potentially takes the glory. But if
:31:07. > :31:09.they are good they will really support their team-mates. Mark
:31:10. > :31:13.Cavendish at the end of the sprint when his lead out train of however
:31:14. > :31:18.many riders, he is the first person to go up and thank them. And really
:31:19. > :31:24.celebrate the work they put into his victory. But when you are working on
:31:25. > :31:28.the track it is one for all and all for one because you cross the finish
:31:29. > :31:35.line together and there as equals on the podium. It needs to be managed.
:31:36. > :31:41.For Bradley this is more about some of the Demons he has had in his head
:31:42. > :31:46.since 2012 rather than the different dynamics from the road to the track?
:31:47. > :31:50.It is hard to explain, the somebody like Brad, you think you won the
:31:51. > :31:55.Tour de France, Olympic gold medals, 2012 should have been the
:31:56. > :31:59.year of your life. It is dealing with success, almost as hard as
:32:00. > :32:04.dealing with failure, in some ways even harder. He had hard times
:32:05. > :32:15.following London, following the Tour de France when, last season was not
:32:16. > :32:20.great for him. - -- win. It is hard when you scale the highest heights.
:32:21. > :32:26.Rio is a completely different thing for him. Fresh start for him. They
:32:27. > :32:28.certainly have a target, the Australians yesterday in the team
:32:29. > :32:36.pursuit final, frankly they crushed England. They did. Obviously there
:32:37. > :32:40.is a huge mountain to climb in terms of the six second gap in the final
:32:41. > :32:48.and there is a lot less variables on the track to control. On the road,
:32:49. > :32:52.300 kilometre race, 180 riders, cobbles, street furniture,
:32:53. > :32:58.spectators, dogs, helicopters, so many things you have to control. You
:32:59. > :33:01.cannot control them all. When he talks about the track being a breath
:33:02. > :33:08.of fresh air that is because he can control more things. The he will be
:33:09. > :33:14.able to use that as a last big push before we get to Rio. Hopefully they
:33:15. > :33:18.will climb the mountain. History of getting it right in British cycling,
:33:19. > :33:27.but now we head to the track, Anna Turvey going in the individual
:33:28. > :33:31.pursuit. There we go, time to hand you over to Simon Brotherton and Rob
:33:32. > :33:39.Hayles. COMMENTATOR:, Anna Turvey from the host nation, 34-year-old
:33:40. > :33:43.optician, only took up cycling competitively last summer but here
:33:44. > :33:48.she is on the big stage in front of a full house in the velodrome. She
:33:49. > :34:04.said six months ago she would have laughed if you told she would be
:34:05. > :34:14.here. And Stephanie roorda, born and raised in Calgary and now based on
:34:15. > :34:15.the West Coast. This is not a knockout situation, they are trying
:34:16. > :34:24.to post the best time. 12 laps, knockout situation, they are trying
:34:25. > :34:32.metres, this is the third heat of ten. A good start by both riders.
:34:33. > :34:40.The Canadian utilising the team pursuit experience she has got. The
:34:41. > :34:40.Canadians are one of the only squads who have
:34:41. > :34:53.Canadians are one of the only squads British girls. And here, Turvey, the
:34:54. > :34:59.Scottish rider, has hardly any experience in this event at all, in
:35:00. > :35:04.cycling in fact. Interesting to see how she delivers her effort. Will
:35:05. > :35:09.she go out to hard in front of the home crowd? That will be the hardest
:35:10. > :35:13.thing in some respects I suppose, controlling the effort. Not getting
:35:14. > :35:18.carried away with the occasion. Control in the individual pursuit
:35:19. > :35:23.especially is the key word. It is about delivering your effort, not
:35:24. > :35:28.going to steady but not going to hard in the early stages. If you go
:35:29. > :35:33.into the red too early there is no way of recovering. They come through
:35:34. > :35:40.the first kilometre, Anna Turvey with the faster time. Over one
:35:41. > :35:51.second faster than Roorda. She is the second fastest so far of the
:35:52. > :35:54.riders who have been. A good opening kilometre by Turvey, has she gone
:35:55. > :36:06.out to hard because of the home crowd? Mark Mackay, assistant coach,
:36:07. > :36:09.stood on the line, taking two steps towards her, meaning she is just
:36:10. > :36:15.down on her schedule, she could well be dropping off and starting to pay
:36:16. > :36:21.for the opening kilometre. The opening half a dozen laps are where
:36:22. > :36:25.she will be hoping to ride on the wave of infusion as. She will need
:36:26. > :36:32.all of their support to keep the power going through the pedals, it
:36:33. > :36:38.really starts to hurt. And once the screw starts to turn, especially now
:36:39. > :36:44.into this last kilometre, they really can start to hurt. Anna
:36:45. > :36:52.Turvey through, still the fastest times so far. She has been pulling
:36:53. > :37:01.away from the time set by Roorda that's far as well. -- thus far.
:37:02. > :37:08.These to the fastest so far as expected. Both those coaches
:37:09. > :37:12.starting to walk the line, there are two ways of passing information, you
:37:13. > :37:17.either walk on the line towards the rider, which means they are on
:37:18. > :37:21.schedule or away from the rider which means they are up. Sometimes
:37:22. > :37:27.they will shout information, but it is much easier to get the visual
:37:28. > :37:33.representation. This is the part where it is all about leading as
:37:34. > :37:37.deep as you possibly can. CHEERING You have two late yet down on the
:37:38. > :37:43.track over the final lap. That is what Anna Turvey is going to do. She
:37:44. > :37:49.has TU is the banking to slingshot along the back straight and round
:37:50. > :37:57.into the last quarter of the lap. Being roared on by the Glasgow crowd
:37:58. > :38:04.into the finishing straight. It is a new fastest time, to the top of the
:38:05. > :38:08.early leaderboard and Stephanie Roorda goes well enough to move into
:38:09. > :38:14.second place with five riders having completed the distance so far. Anna
:38:15. > :38:22.Turvey, that was a solid performance from her. I think she should be
:38:23. > :38:27.happy with that. A good start out of the gate. Nice solid start. Down
:38:28. > :38:33.into the first banking, when she got into position she looked good, she
:38:34. > :38:38.looked calm. She looks well in control. Just wavering a little bit
:38:39. > :38:46.off the black line. Needs to try to stay near the black line as close as
:38:47. > :38:52.possible in the banking. Take the shortest line around the track. If
:38:53. > :38:56.you get below it then even better. Quite a remarkable athlete as we
:38:57. > :39:02.mentioned, she only took up cycling one year ago. Previously a
:39:03. > :39:06.triathlete, but only to add up about five years ago, winning national
:39:07. > :39:11.titles. She came fourth in the World Championship. -- took that up. I
:39:12. > :39:18.think triathlete, swimming especially, gives them an extremely
:39:19. > :39:24.good grounding for pretty much any sport. Lots of swimmers come through
:39:25. > :39:30.in two different sports. Dame Sarah Storey one of them, working with
:39:31. > :39:33.us, the grounding bird that sport, the effort involved in swimming,
:39:34. > :39:46.really passes on to so many other sports. The 18-year-old from
:39:47. > :40:01.Caernarvon, Amy Roberts, she writes for the Wriggle Honda team. --
:40:02. > :40:08.rides. One of so many young talented Welsh cyclist coming through. Jasmin
:40:09. > :40:11.Glaesser more experienced, she got two medals at the watcher ships,
:40:12. > :40:17.silver in team pursuit a bronze medal in the appointees macro race
:40:18. > :40:36.as well. She has just turned 22. -- in the points race. This is Heat 4
:40:37. > :40:48.of ten in this women's individual pursuit qualifying.
:40:49. > :41:05.Away they go, 12 laps of the track. Nice solid start by both riders.
:41:06. > :41:11.Good start by both of them, nice and tight to the black line. The
:41:12. > :41:17.Canadian imposition, into the tuck position as quickly as possible,
:41:18. > :41:23.then the triathlon position, the most aerodynamic and efficient once
:41:24. > :41:27.you are up to speed. Then relax and concentrate on your coach,
:41:28. > :41:33.concentrate on your effort. Don't go too hard to early otherwise you will
:41:34. > :41:37.pay for it. Glaesser has been on the scene for a good three years or so,
:41:38. > :41:41.has been winning medals at world and Olympic level. Olympic bronze as
:41:42. > :41:45.well silvers at the World Championship. More major
:41:46. > :41:54.championship experience under the wheels of Jasmin Glaesser. Darren
:41:55. > :41:59.Tudor, the Welsh coach, walking a good three or four steps away from
:42:00. > :42:04.his rider, Amy Roberts. I am wondering if she has gone out a bit
:42:05. > :42:13.too hard. She is well up on schedule. Amy Roberts goes through,
:42:14. > :42:24.second-fastest so far. Close between these two. Second and third quickest
:42:25. > :42:30.at the one kilometre point. Darren Tudor walk is one step down towards
:42:31. > :42:37.his rider. She has obviously backed off, on schedule. They split your
:42:38. > :42:43.perceived finishing time and break it down into 12 laps. Normally five
:42:44. > :42:47.or six seconds added onto the opening lap to take up the standing
:42:48. > :42:52.start. When they have broken it down that is where you get your schedule
:42:53. > :42:56.and they will walk toward you if you are down or away from you if you are
:42:57. > :43:03.up. So you can judge your effort by that. Amy Roberts one of two strong
:43:04. > :43:10.Welsh teenagers taking part in this women's individual pursuit. In Heat
:43:11. > :43:15.8, Elinor Barker, world champion in the team pursuit, riding in the same
:43:16. > :43:26.heat as Amy Cure, current world champion. Very tight between these
:43:27. > :43:35.two, this is not a race between them, it is all about the finishing
:43:36. > :43:41.times, to get your qualification. Darren Tudor just urging an Amy
:43:42. > :43:47.Roberts now. Two laps to go the these riders now. Really will start
:43:48. > :43:54.to be burning now, but they cannot hold back now, it is all about
:43:55. > :43:57.squeezing every last drop of effort. Urged on by Darren Tudor, the last
:43:58. > :44:07.two laps now for Urged on by Darren Tudor, the last
:44:08. > :44:11.Jasmin Glaesser. Technique so important in the latter stages. BELL
:44:12. > :44:17.When you start to type that is when you come out of the aerodynamic
:44:18. > :44:22.position. -- tire. Both riders doing well at the moment. Amy Roberts
:44:23. > :44:25.looking neat and tidy as she powers down the back straight. About three
:44:26. > :44:42.quarters of the way through her final lap, Glaesser coming up
:44:43. > :44:44.towards the line. A great experience here at a major
:44:45. > :45:03.senior championship. Quickly into her stride.
:45:04. > :45:11.And at the top of the leader board thus far.
:45:12. > :45:16.We see a shot of that little box under the saddle there.
:45:17. > :45:21.Of Glaesser. That is the box that takes all the
:45:22. > :45:29.data from the chain set, from the cranks, that rotate with the chain
:45:30. > :45:31.round it, and that takes all the information revolutions, speed, but
:45:32. > :45:35.also more importantly, the power that each rider is putting out. That
:45:36. > :45:40.is measured in watts, like a light bulb. They will take that data. They
:45:41. > :45:45.will plug that into a laptop and give them all the information they
:45:46. > :45:51.need. A bit like telemetry in Formula One. That is how they base
:45:52. > :45:56.their training round that, training and recovery. It has been a massive,
:45:57. > :45:59.played a massive part in the cop development of training techniques,
:46:00. > :46:05.and also, rider position and equipment, all that measures device.
:46:06. > :46:12.A lot of the riders are using that these days.
:46:13. > :46:15.Next on the track will be heat five, Annette Edmondson against Laura
:46:16. > :46:24.Brown of Canada. Annette Edmondson comes from a real cycling family,
:46:25. > :46:30.her younger brother Alex winning the team pursuit yesterday, to go with
:46:31. > :46:36.his World Championship. He is the individual pursuit World Champion.
:46:37. > :46:40.She is no slouch either. Three silver medal and four bronze medal
:46:41. > :46:44.for her, and Laura Brown, silver medallist this year in the worlds,
:46:45. > :46:48.in the team pursuit for Canada, they are making progress in that
:46:49. > :46:56.competition, having stepped up from having won bronze a year ago.
:46:57. > :47:03.Laura Brown featured in Manchester. She won the points race.
:47:04. > :47:08.She also featured, as we look at Edmondson, Laura Brown fourth in the
:47:09. > :47:13.individual pursuit at the World Championships last year. Certainly
:47:14. > :47:17.expect on paper good performance by both riders, down to the last 20
:47:18. > :47:22.seconds before the start. The riders concentrating. Deep breathing.
:47:23. > :47:29.Relaxing, relaxing is so important before these big efforts.
:47:30. > :47:35.The next heat include Dani King and after that Laura Trott and Ciara
:47:36. > :47:40.Horne from Wales. Here we go with Annette Edmondson in
:47:41. > :47:46.the gold and green. Of Australia.
:47:47. > :47:51.Interesting to see what form she is in the she is in good form she could
:47:52. > :47:54.be a factor in this. If she has anything like her brother she will
:47:55. > :47:58.be on form. The Australians certainly seem to be on form across
:47:59. > :48:05.the board at the moment. They are on a role. Roll. She has
:48:06. > :48:09.made a fast start against Laura Brown as well. Noticeably up on her
:48:10. > :48:14.opponent. And as Brown disappears from the end of the finishing
:48:15. > :48:19.straight, Annette Edmondson was entering it.
:48:20. > :48:24.Yes Edmondson went very quick. You see the Australian coach on the
:48:25. > :48:29.track. Walking good, good two or three steps away from his rider
:48:30. > :48:33.Edmondson there. She really has gone out quick, quite surprised about
:48:34. > :48:36.Brown, the Canadian. I think we will see a new fastest time at the 1,000
:48:37. > :48:50.metre mark in half a lap's time. Let us look at the time as she comes
:48:51. > :48:55.through now. 1:11.66. The fastest time. A good five seconds quicker.
:48:56. > :49:00.If she can keep this going she will be on for a good time. As you said,
:49:01. > :49:04.we expect to see Edmondson in the latter stains of this competition.
:49:05. > :49:10.Really performing well. -- stages. Laura Brown making a slow
:49:11. > :49:13.start, only the sixth quickest at the one kilometre mark. She is
:49:14. > :49:17.struggling to get going this morning.
:49:18. > :49:21.Edmondson, she will be benefitting from that slipstreaming effect. Not
:49:22. > :49:23.even half a straight distance, the difference between Edmondson and
:49:24. > :49:29.Brown. She will be hunting her down and it is all about the timing in
:49:30. > :49:33.the catch. Will she catch her coming out of the banking. I Looe looks
:49:34. > :49:38.like she will be. She needs to run at her. Try and do the overtaking in
:49:39. > :49:45.one of the straights. Looks like he is going get that timing perfectly
:49:46. > :49:48.here. Four-and-a-half laps to go now, for
:49:49. > :49:52.Annette Edmondson, as she makes the catch, but because this is all about
:49:53. > :49:55.the time, she will keep going. Had that happened in a medal race, the
:49:56. > :49:59.race would be over, of course, but here it is all about the time, all
:50:00. > :50:03.the riders in this field, racing for the time, the fastest two will go
:50:04. > :50:07.for gold later on, and third and fourth will go for the bronze. I
:50:08. > :50:11.think it is fair to say that Laura Brown from Canada, she wasn't really
:50:12. > :50:16.giving everything in that effort. She didn't time it that well,
:50:17. > :50:19.because, well, she is now not losing any distance, she has got in the
:50:20. > :50:27.slipstream, she will have some benefit but she is warned, one of
:50:28. > :50:33.the come says on the track telling her to back off. -- They are all
:50:34. > :50:38.talking to Brown there from Canada as she races round. She will be
:50:39. > :50:43.tucked into her own environment of pain at the moment, but I think she
:50:44. > :50:46.has benefitted a little bit from Annette Edmondson since Annette
:50:47. > :50:51.Edmondson has gone past her, trying to stay within touching distance, as
:50:52. > :50:56.Edmondson takes the bell, and this by a long, long way is going to be
:50:57. > :50:59.the new leader. Good position on the bike by Edmondson, the Australians
:51:00. > :51:06.do a lot of body position on the bike. So important. Very good effort
:51:07. > :51:11.there. There is the time for Annette Edmondson 3: 30.728. That is only
:51:12. > :51:18.half a second outside the games' record. Good time and Laura Brown
:51:19. > :51:23.coming to life toward the end. 3: 40.035. She got faster, particularly
:51:24. > :51:27.after she had been overtaken by Edmondson, but it was a lethargic
:51:28. > :51:30.start from the Canadian, but it was all about that athlete there,
:51:31. > :51:35.Annette Edmondson, with a superb right.
:51:36. > :51:42.It was a fantastic ride. I would have expected her to run at Brown a
:51:43. > :51:45.bit quicker, you utilise the banking, plus being in the
:51:46. > :51:50.slipstream to do the overtake down the back strait. As it was, she kept
:51:51. > :51:54.her momentum, she came out, down the back straight, and just had the lose
:51:55. > :51:59.a bit of this and try to get clear of the front wheel of Brown, so she
:52:00. > :52:04.lost some distance in that banking but she did benefit from that, from
:52:05. > :52:07.the slipstreaming effect. A good performance there by the Australian
:52:08. > :52:10.rider. When you see a ride like that you know we are getting to the
:52:11. > :52:16.business end of this qualifying session. She most certainly has laid
:52:17. > :52:22.down a marker. The next couple of rounds, Dani King, Laura Trott,
:52:23. > :52:26.Elinor Barker, and then the big finale with the World Champion for
:52:27. > :52:30.England Joanna Rowsell. And Katie Archibald as well in the penultimate
:52:31. > :52:36.ride and Amy Cure from Australia. Ciara Horne going for Wales. It is a
:52:37. > :52:41.very very high calibre field here in this women's individual pursuit.
:52:42. > :52:45.It is going to be a tough fought competition for the medals.
:52:46. > :52:50.Annette Edmondson has been there or thereabouts at world and Olympic
:52:51. > :52:56.level for a good three years or so. So often on the podium. But more
:52:57. > :53:01.often than not on the second or the third rung, thus far.
:53:02. > :53:06.She leads the way at the moment, as you can see.
:53:07. > :53:11.So Dani King from England next on the track.
:53:12. > :53:19.It will be interesting to see how she fares in this field in this
:53:20. > :53:22.event. She is most well-known as a team pursuiter. Three times a World
:53:23. > :53:26.Champion. And the Olympic champion in the team
:53:27. > :53:34.pursuit. It can be difficult to transfer your
:53:35. > :53:37.team pursuit form and technique into the individual pursuit. It can take
:53:38. > :53:44.riders a couple of seasons to try and get used to the different effect
:53:45. > :53:58.of a different way you deliver that performance.
:53:59. > :54:06.The first of the English rider ops the track. Georgia Williams starting
:54:07. > :54:15.and finishing in the home straight. She rides for the New Zealand team.
:54:16. > :54:18.Eighth in the road race. Dani King, runner-up to Laura Trott in the
:54:19. > :54:22.national champion on the road recently. Rode the inaugural women's
:54:23. > :54:27.Tour of Britain back in May, so there has been more of a road
:54:28. > :54:35.programme for her than anything else this year, but best known for her
:54:36. > :54:39.riding on the track. Williams from New Zealand will
:54:40. > :54:43.continue the good form. She is slightly down on Dani King who has
:54:44. > :54:47.made a good start. Difficult start to the year for Dani King, the first
:54:48. > :54:52.setback of her career in terms of selection, when she was left out of
:54:53. > :54:56.the selection, when she was left out of
:54:57. > :54:58.Katie Archibald taking her place there, in the quartet which retained
:54:59. > :55:05.the world title. So the there, in the quartet which retained
:55:06. > :55:10.very much been laid down there. It can be difficult for the younger
:55:11. > :55:13.rider, especially if they haven't come up against any kind of problem
:55:14. > :55:17.making selection, a lot of the riders we see them, especially on
:55:18. > :55:21.the women's front, their first senior outing and they come away
:55:22. > :55:25.with a title, so if you get a setback like that, it is long-term,
:55:26. > :55:29.I think it is good for the riders but it is how they cope with it, but
:55:30. > :55:34.she does have a good team round her and one is Chris Newton, the guy at
:55:35. > :55:42.the top of the screen, the coach walking the line for her. Olympic
:55:43. > :55:46.medallist, World Champion in points race. Team pursuit. Commonwealth
:55:47. > :55:50.Games champion. Dani King was two-and-a-half seconds down on the
:55:51. > :55:55.time of Annette Edmondson at the one kilometre mark at one third
:55:56. > :56:00.distance, but she did post the second quickest time. Let us see how
:56:01. > :56:07.she can sustain that effort and step on the gas a bit more as the race
:56:08. > :56:13.wears on. Five laps to go, as we look at Jew
:56:14. > :56:24.jaw from New Zealand. There is Dani King. -- Georgia Williams. Dipling
:56:25. > :56:28.under the black line, that is good. Still second fastest time. Come
:56:29. > :56:32.canning off schedule slightly. Chris Newton walking towards her, there
:56:33. > :56:35.you can see him, arms crossed. Not giving too many facial expression,
:56:36. > :56:39.we are not sure what is going on there, he is walking towards her as
:56:40. > :56:44.she comes to the line and urging her on a. You can see the way Dani is
:56:45. > :56:48.gritting her teeth this is where it is starting to hurt in the closing
:56:49. > :56:52.laps. The lungs are bursting, the legs are burning, but you have to
:56:53. > :56:56.press on and you have to get every last ounce of effort out of your
:56:57. > :57:00.body, and that is what Dani King has got to do here now. She is starting
:57:01. > :57:05.to move about on top of that bike there. She is really started to
:57:06. > :57:10.drugle. Her legs are starring to tie up. Lap-and-a-half. It is starting
:57:11. > :57:13.to bite. Gritting her teeth. Trying to get everything out. So important
:57:14. > :57:22.this first round One lap to go for Dani King then n
:57:23. > :57:28.the women's pursuit qualifying as the bell goes for Georgia Williams.
:57:29. > :57:31.King can see her as she comes down the straight. She grits her teeth,
:57:32. > :57:37.just seconds away from the end of the ride. Let us look at the time as
:57:38. > :57:45.she crosses the line, 3: 38.04. Good enough for second place so far, with
:57:46. > :57:50.Georgia Williams crossing. Dani King second on the leaderboard, behind
:57:51. > :57:56.Annette Edmondson of Australia. I think that effort took a lot out
:57:57. > :58:02.of her. She was starting to tire up in that last lap-and-a-half, two
:58:03. > :58:06.laps, as opposed to the previous round with Annette Edmondson from
:58:07. > :58:16.Australia, she did deliver quality ride, very even tempo, one 110
:58:17. > :58:21.kilos. A very Iven Dublinry, as opposed to Dani King, who was
:58:22. > :58:26.starting the die off a bit. You would see the ride biting hard
:58:27. > :58:33.in the closing laps. Yes, she lost a good second a lap in those last four
:58:34. > :58:40.laps there, the middle kilo was a 110. As opposed to final kilo, a
:58:41. > :59:03.minute and 14 she did die off and pay for her earlier efforts.
:59:04. > :59:07.The conclusion of Dani King's ride. Think you can tell that by the way
:59:08. > :59:12.she is clambering off the bike. She almost had possible picked off. I
:59:13. > :59:17.The coach, the mechanic getting the bike off her, helping her off that
:59:18. > :59:22.and then she just got her road bike and rolled down the ramp on to the
:59:23. > :59:27.infeed. There will be no walking down the ramp for Dani King, the
:59:28. > :59:30.legs starting to buckle. We know she got the effort out. She didn'tn't
:59:31. > :59:35.hold anything back there. Absolutely. Could not have given any
:59:36. > :59:41.more, and now, heat seven of ten and it includes Laura Trott there, the
:59:42. > :59:45.four time team pursuit World Champion, current Olympic champion
:59:46. > :59:49.in the team pursuit and the Omnium and the new national road race
:59:50. > :59:54.champion. She beat Dani King at the finish of that recently, in South
:59:55. > :00:05.Wales. How will the crowd react to Laura
:00:06. > :00:09.Trott being on the track? Pretty well as the answer! Certainly one of
:00:10. > :00:19.the riders they were expecting to see here. Jason Kenny, her partner
:00:20. > :00:24.in crime. Ciara Horne on the other side of the track from Kenilworth,
:00:25. > :00:29.previously represented Ireland, but she has declared for Great Britain,
:00:30. > :00:36.renounced her citizenship because of the lack of funding. She has had a
:00:37. > :00:38.less than straightforward build-up, she suffered a couple of broken ribs
:00:39. > :00:51.while training last month. One of the stars of the games, Laura
:00:52. > :00:55.Trott, on a track for England for the first time here. If she could
:00:56. > :01:00.win a Commonwealth Games gold medal, it would complete the set, she has
:01:01. > :01:05.won everything else and is still only 22 years of age. Yeah, this is
:01:06. > :01:09.not one of her favourite events, I am pretty sure she will be building
:01:10. > :01:13.it into her repertoire. The former England coach at the bottom of the
:01:14. > :01:19.screen, taking just a couple of steps away from her. A good opening
:01:20. > :01:24.lap by Laura Trott. He was a champion in team pursuit. He knows
:01:25. > :01:40.the kind of effort that his riders have to put out to deliver on the
:01:41. > :01:49.track. Key -- Ciara Horne, she started as a swimmer, suffered a
:01:50. > :01:57.shoulder injury. She decided to specialise on two wheels. Swimming
:01:58. > :02:02.is quite a solitary sport, a tough one for training. Cycling a little
:02:03. > :02:09.bit easier in that respect, mentally, for sure. Second-fastest
:02:10. > :02:13.time for Laura Trott so far. Look at the way she is hiding under the
:02:14. > :02:18.black line all the way round, incredible technician, Laura Trott,
:02:19. > :02:24.she really is hugging well under the black line down near the sandbags.
:02:25. > :02:30.The first kilometre is very similar to Dani King's, about a tenth of a
:02:31. > :02:35.second quicker. We will have to wait and see, will she be able to
:02:36. > :02:46.maintain that effort? She is just coming of the first edge, her coach
:02:47. > :02:53.walking towards her, not too much concern for Paul Manning at the
:02:54. > :02:59.moment. Here comes Laura Trott now with five laps to go. Up an
:03:00. > :03:04.opponent, but a reminder if you have just tuned in, this is not a
:03:05. > :03:11.knockout event - it is purely about the time, the fastest four will go
:03:12. > :03:17.to the medal rides later today. What will be second kilometre bring?
:03:18. > :03:22.2:24.29, still second-fastest, about four seconds down on Annette
:03:23. > :03:29.Edmondson's time, fairly so Dani King. She has gained over half a
:03:30. > :03:35.second on Dani King now. She is certainly having the psychological
:03:36. > :03:40.carrot, with Horne from Wales, she is in the same straight, chasing her
:03:41. > :03:43.down, looking a little bit more even in delivery van Dani King was in the
:03:44. > :03:49.previous round, still technically riding well, on the black line and
:03:50. > :03:52.even below it. You mention that this is not as bestiality, the individual
:03:53. > :03:59.pursuit, but she is such a fierce and feisty competitor. -- not hurt
:04:00. > :04:09.speciality. It is ultimately all about the time to cede you going
:04:10. > :04:16.into the medal ride offs. She has got Ciara Horne DJs, and she is
:04:17. > :04:26.about to catch at the end of the ride. -- to chase. She has not have
:04:27. > :04:31.to come out of the line. 3:35.21, second-fastest time for Laura Trott.
:04:32. > :04:37.Ciara Horne, ninth fastest. Laura Trott is at the top of the
:04:38. > :04:41.leaderboard, she managed to sustain the effort, about three seconds up
:04:42. > :04:45.on Dani King, the best part of three seconds ahead of Dani King, who is
:04:46. > :04:52.down to third. She wrote a 1.10 middle kilometre, so she did die of
:04:53. > :04:57.a little bit, even with that slipstreaming. So she's certainly
:04:58. > :05:01.got everything out there, four seconds difference between Laura
:05:02. > :05:05.Trott and the fastest qualifier so far, Australian Annette Edmondson,
:05:06. > :05:08.and it really does show what that Australian delivered. A fantastic
:05:09. > :05:12.performance by her, she is going to be quite tough to be knocked off,
:05:13. > :05:17.but we will soon find out in the next couple of feeds, because Amy
:05:18. > :05:27.Cure, the other Australian, is coming through. -- heats. As we see
:05:28. > :05:42.Laura Trott... Handing down Ciara Horne in the
:05:43. > :05:47.closing stages of the ride. -- hunting. That certainly will have
:05:48. > :05:49.been an incentive to work in the closing laps, seeing her opponent in
:05:50. > :05:55.front of her. It certainly closing laps, seeing her opponent in
:05:56. > :06:00.have been a nice benefit there for Laura
:06:01. > :06:10.have been a nice benefit there for there, Paul Manning, quite happy
:06:11. > :06:13.with that. Gold medals from Beijing. Her legs are not buckling quite as
:06:14. > :06:21.much as Dani King's, gets on a road bike, rolls down into the infield to
:06:22. > :06:25.do a few laps, just turning the legs gently. There is a look at the
:06:26. > :06:32.leaderboard with just three heats to go. Three high-quality heats to
:06:33. > :06:38.come, so those medal rides are a long way from being sorted yet, I
:06:39. > :06:42.sense. Elinor Barker from Wales, 19 years of age, next on the track,
:06:43. > :06:50.world and European team pursuit champion, a former road champion,
:06:51. > :06:53.back in 2012 in the Netherlands. Her very first senior outing was here on
:06:54. > :06:56.this track when the track opened at a World Cup meeting about 18 months
:06:57. > :07:02.ago. She rode in the team pursuit squad, and it was as if I she had
:07:03. > :07:06.been in at her entire life, she took to it like a duck to water. It is
:07:07. > :07:09.one of those things with this squad, incredible how they perform so early
:07:10. > :07:20.on. Amy Cure is no slouch either on the
:07:21. > :07:25.other side of the track, the Tasmanian, 21, the reigning world
:07:26. > :07:28.champion in the points race, bronze medal at this year's world
:07:29. > :07:33.championship in individual and team pursuit, so we will also be keeping
:07:34. > :07:37.a close eye on Amy Cure, because she most definitely could figure in the
:07:38. > :07:44.medal rides if she is on the top of her game at the moment. If Amy Cure
:07:45. > :07:47.is the ride to be able to top her Australian team-mates, Edmondson, I
:07:48. > :07:51.feel fairly sure we will see another Commonwealth Games record being
:07:52. > :07:57.broken. Good position by the Australian riders, they really do
:07:58. > :08:02.spend an awful lot of time in that tuck position. They work on it, so,
:08:03. > :08:07.so important, body position on the bike, one of the most important
:08:08. > :08:13.factors for being efficient and aerodynamic. A tough transition, for
:08:14. > :08:18.any ride, from riding as a junior, going into the seniors - a big, big
:08:19. > :08:21.change. It is a massive step up, it really is, and that is one of the
:08:22. > :08:27.reasons why it was so impressive that Elinor Barker did what she did
:08:28. > :08:31.at that World Cup, but to step up in the team, that is one thing, but to
:08:32. > :08:38.do it as an individual rider on your own, on this track, it really is
:08:39. > :08:41.different. Amy Cure, second-fastest at 1000m, fifth fastest time thus
:08:42. > :08:52.far for Elinor Barker. Both riders seem to be fairly set on
:08:53. > :08:57.their schedule, the Australian coach is not walking, he seems to be
:08:58. > :09:03.giving laps splits, so it is hard to tell, visually for us. Australia
:09:04. > :09:07.going really well this year, you can see it at the World Championships -
:09:08. > :09:10.there was a focus and a real purpose about the whole squad, the way they
:09:11. > :09:15.went about their business morning, noon and night. Gary Sutton, their
:09:16. > :09:19.coach, on the apron of the track. One day he is looking calm and
:09:20. > :09:26.composed, all as it should be so far as far as he is concerned. And the
:09:27. > :09:30.two riders are holding their places in terms of where they are on the
:09:31. > :09:37.track, second and fifth fastest at this point. Amy Chua riding well to
:09:38. > :09:45.the bottom of the track, she has touched a couple of the sandbags and
:09:46. > :09:55.sent them flying. -- Amy Cure. We call them sandbags, they used to be
:09:56. > :10:00.sandbags, it made for a bit of excitement when riders hit them.
:10:01. > :10:07.That talks like it might be the voice of experience! It was not the
:10:08. > :10:11.most pleasant of experiences. Two across the line next time for Amy
:10:12. > :10:16.Cure, who has two laps to go from now. No sign of her letting up, and
:10:17. > :10:22.it is getting tough for Elinor Barker. Yeah, good technique again
:10:23. > :10:25.by Elinor Barker, that is the most important thing, learning the
:10:26. > :10:30.process of individual pursuit, delivering that effort in a nice,
:10:31. > :10:39.clean line. Amy Cure takes the bell, another really good right for
:10:40. > :10:42.the Australians. -- ride. It will be interesting to see the time posted
:10:43. > :10:46.by Elinor Barker, she is having to dig really deep halfway around the
:10:47. > :10:58.last lap. Amy Cure towards the line, three point 31 .54, she really piled
:10:59. > :11:03.it on. -- 3:31.54. Elinor Barker, good enough for fourth place so
:11:04. > :11:06.far, so Annette Edmondson still at the top of the leaderboard. Amy
:11:07. > :11:11.Cure, at the moment, would race against for gold and silver, and as
:11:12. > :11:16.it stands Laura Trott against Elinor Barker for bronze. But we still have
:11:17. > :11:21.two high-quality heats to come. That was a good ride by the Welsh ride,
:11:22. > :11:26.Elinor Barker, but this heat, and so far this competition, is all about
:11:27. > :11:34.the Australians, they are all over this at the moment. Amy Cure road so
:11:35. > :11:38.well at the World Championships this year, picking up three medals, one
:11:39. > :11:43.of them gold, and she has carried that form on into the European
:11:44. > :11:47.summer. She really did look like she was fighting the bike in the last
:11:48. > :11:52.couple of laps there, Amy Cure, but she was going quick. She really did
:11:53. > :11:59.hold on in those last three or four laps. That was impressive from Amy
:12:00. > :12:07.Cure. She did not quite overhauled the time of a team-mate Annette
:12:08. > :12:12.Edmondson. -- her team-mate. But the Australian track cyclists clearly
:12:13. > :12:16.very fired up for these Games. Amy Cure with number two on her back,
:12:17. > :12:24.another two in qualification, can she stay there? These next two
:12:25. > :12:29.rounds should be performances. A sizeable gap between the Australians
:12:30. > :12:35.and everyone else in the field. They are head and shoulders above
:12:36. > :12:38.everyone at the moment. A big welcome coming onto the track for
:12:39. > :12:46.Katie Archibald, as we watched Amy Cure just winding down and coming a
:12:47. > :12:51.halt. This is a much anticipated ride for the local crowd. She is
:12:52. > :12:55.from just outside Glasgow, Katie Archibald, who has burst onto the
:12:56. > :13:04.scene in the last year or so, 20 years of age. She has adapted very
:13:05. > :13:09.well to everything that has been thrown at her. Slightly frustrating
:13:10. > :13:14.when I see these young riders coming in, absolutely incredible, the way
:13:15. > :13:21.they adapt to each and every event. And it is almost like they are going
:13:22. > :13:25.out to play. These young girls, especially, they absolutely love
:13:26. > :13:29.competition, and they perform so, so well. That is one of the things I
:13:30. > :13:32.really like about Katie Archibald - whether she wins or not, you will
:13:33. > :13:37.know she has been in the race, she never turns out to make up the
:13:38. > :13:38.numbers, she always tried to make something happen, and more often
:13:39. > :13:54.than not she does. Katie Archibald racing in front of
:13:55. > :13:57.her home crowd here. She has had an excellent year, primarily I think
:13:58. > :14:02.she loves racing on the track, but she has been riding on the road with
:14:03. > :14:07.some considerable success too. It is all a big, big learning curve, and
:14:08. > :14:12.it has come with success so far. She slotted into the Great Britain team
:14:13. > :14:16.pursuit quartet this year in the World Championships, rode really
:14:17. > :14:20.strongly to take that gold medal alongside the likes of Laura Trott
:14:21. > :14:25.and Joanna Rowsell. Elinor Barker also in that team. Good start,
:14:26. > :14:31.particularly by the Scottish rider, Archibald. Nielsen wobbled out of
:14:32. > :14:34.the gate a little bit, both riders fairly evenly matched at the moment.
:14:35. > :14:42.It looks like Katie Archibald is riding on a much bigger gear at the
:14:43. > :14:45.moment, so basically the revolutions of the pedals, for every red, she is
:14:46. > :14:50.travelling a lot further, almost like being in fifth gear as opposed
:14:51. > :14:56.to fourth in a car. It can be harder to get out of the gate, but once you
:14:57. > :14:59.get on top of it and get it rolling, it can be beneficial. But if she
:15:00. > :15:09.goes into the red on that big gear, she will have a fight on her hands
:15:10. > :15:11.against her own bike. South Wales. How will the crowd react
:15:12. > :15:24.Kneel was fourth in the individual pursuit at the Commonwealth Games in
:15:25. > :15:30.Delhi. -- Jaime Nielsen. Good battle between the two riders.
:15:31. > :15:34.Good ride. Nice and low there. Much more experienced Nielson at 28. The
:15:35. > :15:41.road tile trial champion. Great position on the bike. Lovely smooth
:15:42. > :15:51.fluid style. All eyes on Katie Archibald here.
:15:52. > :15:55.Wandering a bit on her line, whether that will come from experience.
:15:56. > :16:00.Certainly a different effort to deliver as a individual, as opposed
:16:01. > :16:04.to the team pursuit. Four-and-a-half laps to go for
:16:05. > :16:08.Archibald now. You can see it is starting to hurt.
:16:09. > :16:13.Once it starts to bite, as I say, o on this big gear, as she comes off
:16:14. > :16:19.the revs. She is gaining a bit of time on the opposition. Up into
:16:20. > :16:22.third place at the two thirds distance at 2,000 metres.
:16:23. > :16:27.What has she got left in the tank? It is starting to bite now for Katie
:16:28. > :16:34.Archibald, you can see she is wandering over the bike a bit,
:16:35. > :16:42.gritting her teeth. Her coach really urging her on. Looks reasonably
:16:43. > :16:45.happy with this effort so far. Two laps to go. Two laps for the biggest
:16:46. > :16:50.effort that she can possibly muster laps to go. Two laps for the biggest
:16:51. > :16:55.in this 3,000 metres individual pursuit qualifying ride. Can Katie
:16:56. > :16:56.Archibald haul herself into a potential medal ride here?
:16:57. > :17:01.Archibald haul herself into a to pull everything she has got out
:17:02. > :17:05.of the bag, put everything into this last lap now, here is the bell.
:17:06. > :17:09.of the bag, put everything into this cannot hold back. She needs a wall
:17:10. > :17:13.of noise to carry her round the final 250 metres down the back
:17:14. > :17:18.straight. Here comes Nielson who is outside the medal ride positions.
:17:19. > :17:26.Katie Archibald gritting her teeth. Up towards the line. Over the line,
:17:27. > :17:33.3:33.526. Third place. She has gone quicker than Laura Trott and Elinor
:17:34. > :17:39.Barker, and Dani King, so Annette Edmondson leads the way. Archibald
:17:40. > :17:42.would have the chance to raise -- race for bronze and Jaime Nielsen
:17:43. > :17:47.also finished strongly, she was sixth and fifth at the first two
:17:48. > :17:51.time checks but she pulled it out of the bag and she has moved up into
:17:52. > :17:56.fourth place on the leader board. Katie Archibald, I think it is fair
:17:57. > :18:00.to say she got everything out there, nice and calm, and collected. Very
:18:01. > :18:06.focussed out of the starting gate there.
:18:07. > :18:11.She delivered that effort, it south of her hands now, she has done
:18:12. > :18:16.everything she can. She has got herself up there. For a ride off for
:18:17. > :18:20.the bronze medal. Can she hold that position? She can do nothing but go
:18:21. > :18:27.down into the track centre, warm down, I am sure she will keep an eye
:18:28. > :18:32.on the final round, to make sure she stays there, be with Joanna Rowsell
:18:33. > :18:41.and Lauren Ellis in this final round, it is in the balance, can she
:18:42. > :18:44.stay there? The final few moments of Katie
:18:45. > :18:47.Archibald's ride. We will see more of her during the week. She will
:18:48. > :18:52.have a go at all of the races given half the chaps so we will see her on
:18:53. > :18:58.the track as well. I hope they have put her in there. Massive gaining of
:18:59. > :19:03.experience, but also just the fact that I love to see her ride.
:19:04. > :19:09.I really do. She is a massive animator of the races. So Archibald
:19:10. > :19:13.has to be happy with the ride that she managed there.
:19:14. > :19:16.She is known for her riding style. And she is also known for the colour
:19:17. > :19:19.of her hair, which changes from week the week.
:19:20. > :19:24.I am sure there is going to be a hint of blue under there this week.
:19:25. > :19:26.Only one colour it could be, blue and white this week. But she was
:19:27. > :19:31.hoping that it would still be like that by the time competition came
:19:32. > :19:35.round, she said half of it had come off on her pillow, having had her
:19:36. > :19:39.hair done. But can't be pink this week. It has to be blue and white.
:19:40. > :19:47.Now the World Champion Joanna Rowsell, preparing to take to the
:19:48. > :19:49.track, up against Lauren Ellis. Rowsell a double World Champion
:19:50. > :19:57.having won the team event this year and in the individual pursuit final
:19:58. > :20:04.she beat Sarah come hammer. One of eight gold medallist in the team.
:20:05. > :20:05.Lauren Ellis from New Zealand. Commonwealth silver medallist behind
:20:06. > :20:20.Megan Dunn of Australia. Ellis with a good pedigree. Two
:20:21. > :20:27.silver medals and a bronze at World Championship level two.
:20:28. > :20:37.12 laps of the track, in terms of getting into the final. 3:31.543 is
:20:38. > :20:43.the time to beat. The fastest time so far. 3: 30.728. At the moment it
:20:44. > :20:46.is an all Australia final. Can Joanna Rowsell on Lauren Ellis do
:20:47. > :20:51.anything about it? She went through the first half lap there, Rowsell,
:20:52. > :20:56.in fourth place, she has pulled that up to third. She is a good start by
:20:57. > :21:01.her, she generally rides a big gear. It takes her time to get going. Once
:21:02. > :21:06.she does and gets settled on the ride she knows what she is doing out
:21:07. > :21:12.there. She knows how to deliver her effort. She tends to be strong and
:21:13. > :21:16.solid once she gets it rolling. She is not like a greyhound in the first
:21:17. > :21:25.lap or so, she doesn't burst out of the trap, but once she gets on top
:21:26. > :21:32.of that gear she can keep going forever She rides how her nature is,
:21:33. > :21:37.she is calm anded. She is the sensible one of the girls squad, but
:21:38. > :21:41.the way she rides with such maturity. How much attention will
:21:42. > :21:46.she have paid to the times laid down? She would have pretty much
:21:47. > :21:51.woken up knowing the time she would be setting herself, that her coach
:21:52. > :21:54.would have set her, to ride. She is a good tenth of a second at the
:21:55. > :21:59.moment up on that, and looking at the coach at the bottom of the
:22:00. > :22:03.track, walking away from her. He seems calm and account with that.
:22:04. > :22:07.Second fastest time at the one kilometre mark, so the closest to
:22:08. > :22:10.the time of Annette Edmondson thus far.
:22:11. > :22:14.It can go both ways, if you concentrate on what the opposition
:22:15. > :22:17.are doing in a timed event like this, there is nothing you can do
:22:18. > :22:21.about that, but you are on your own on the track so it can go either
:22:22. > :22:26.way, the they post times quicker than you think you can go it can
:22:27. > :22:30.have an adverse effect. This might help what is going on. Because
:22:31. > :22:33.Lauren Ellis hasn't made a good start at all, and Joanna Rowsell as
:22:34. > :22:36.she goes into the back straight in the next couple of seconds she will
:22:37. > :22:42.see her opponent in front of her She will. She is in the same straight as
:22:43. > :22:47.her and she will have the benefit of getting that chase, getting that not
:22:48. > :22:52.necessarily a catch, just yet in the last kilometre, she could start to
:22:53. > :22:58.run-up to her. Psychologically she has that advantage. Still second
:22:59. > :23:03.faster. She will be in the gold medal race if it stays like this She
:23:04. > :23:07.comes on stronger in the latter part so she has a good power. He will get
:23:08. > :23:11.the benefit of slipstreaming now, less than quarter o a lap the
:23:12. > :23:17.distance, she is starting to close in now on the Kiwi rider.
:23:18. > :23:21.Steady and strong, Joanna Rowsell powering round the Velodrome in the
:23:22. > :23:26.east end of Glasgow, as she crosses the line again with two laps to go,
:23:27. > :23:29.and a place in the final at the Commonwealth Games at stake here,
:23:30. > :23:33.and if she can keep it going as she has so far, a place in the final is
:23:34. > :23:38.hers for the taking. This is is another perfect catch
:23:39. > :23:41.here, by the English rider. Joanna Rowsell takes the bell, and Lauren
:23:42. > :23:45.Ellis with it. So Lauren Ellis isn't going to
:23:46. > :23:50.figure. Joanna Rowsell could well do. Half way down the back straight.
:23:51. > :23:53.Really puts the power through the pedals now. Roared on by the crowd.
:23:54. > :24:01.Here comes the World Champion. Up towards the line, what is the time?
:24:02. > :24:06.3: 29.038. It is the fastest time and the first games record of the
:24:07. > :24:10.day has gone. Well, we expected if anyone was to
:24:11. > :24:15.go into post a time quicker than Annette Edmondson, the Australian,
:24:16. > :24:20.that it would also break that Commonwealth record, yet again, in
:24:21. > :24:24.many another timed event, every one we have had a Commonwealth record
:24:25. > :24:29.broken. That is a ride that deserves a standing ovation from the crowd
:24:30. > :24:32.and that is what it was getting at various parts as Joanna Rowsell
:24:33. > :24:36.began the wind down. She said in the last few days in the build up to
:24:37. > :24:39.this, that she quietly had been happy with the times she had been
:24:40. > :24:45.posting in training, she felt pleased with how it was going. In
:24:46. > :24:50.her understated way that means, I think she is flying for Joanna
:24:51. > :24:54.Rowsell, so we have got a very very good final to look forward in the
:24:55. > :24:58.women's individual pursuit. Joanna Rowsell, the World Champion will be
:24:59. > :25:02.up against Annette Edmondson from Australia, and the bronze medal ride
:25:03. > :25:07.will be between Amy Cure from Tasmania, that is another Aussie,
:25:08. > :25:13.this time up against Scotland's Katie Archibald.
:25:14. > :25:17.Great action from the Velodrome this morning. Joanna Rowsell through to
:25:18. > :25:20.that gold medal race but Katie Archibald for Scotland in the bronze
:25:21. > :25:23.medal race that, will be later on this afternoon, for the moment back
:25:24. > :25:27.to you Dougie. Thank you very much indeed. Yes,
:25:28. > :25:30.quite incredible, Joanna Rowsell there, just showing the, why she is
:25:31. > :25:37.the World Champion, but interesting from our home nation point of view,
:25:38. > :25:40.Katie Archibald knocking Laura Trott and Elinor Barker, both multiple
:25:41. > :25:45.World Champions out of the medal ride off. Big story and you can
:25:46. > :25:50.imagine when that bronze medal ride off happens, the Velodrome, the East
:25:51. > :25:57.End of Glasgow, it will go wild. We will see Katie Archibald here, e--
:25:58. > :26:02.hair, she Dais it every week. I -- she dyes it every week. Last night
:26:03. > :26:07.in judo it was a very fine success for all of Team England and
:26:08. > :26:12.Scotland. Five Gold Medals on often and all five were won by the home
:26:13. > :26:16.nation, three for Scotland and two for England. Let us turn to Jew owe,
:26:17. > :26:21.if Games in Manchester will remember
:26:22. > :26:26.Sarah Clarke, she won silver for Scotland in 2002. -- judo. She is in
:26:27. > :26:34.action this morning, let us see what happened for her.
:26:35. > :26:37.I just think that Clarke's experience here and the fact she is
:26:38. > :26:43.still physically fit and in good condition, I think that will be too
:26:44. > :26:46.much for Choudhry. Yes, That combination of things there. I think
:26:47. > :26:48.it is going to be too much. Clarke in the white for Scotland. Choudhry
:26:49. > :27:00.in blue for India. She has nice control of the sleeve.
:27:01. > :27:22.Strong exchange. If all else fails, try a sacrifice
:27:23. > :27:26.technique, throw yourself on the ground and see what comes up.
:27:27. > :27:34.Choudary, bitten by that bug as well and Clarke blocked that one easily.
:27:35. > :27:45.Just wandered out the area there. She did. Untidy from Choudary.
:27:46. > :27:50.She wantered over there again, all she needs is one foot out and that
:27:51. > :27:57.will be it It would be unfortunate. It would be nice for Sarah to start
:27:58. > :28:10.a competition where, with a nice throw in for her, it would be
:28:11. > :28:16.unfortunate if it does go that way. She had a nice set up there. Sarah
:28:17. > :28:21.needs a bit of movement P The rear here for me, because she is leaning
:28:22. > :28:26.forward, Choudary, she is defending against that oncoming forward
:28:27. > :28:32.attack. There it is. A beautiful tae otoshi. That is Sarah's. That
:28:33. > :28:37.Sarah's technique. Beautiful. Great start. It is really nice when
:28:38. > :28:42.that happens, because just before this happens, the whole set up says
:28:43. > :28:55.this is coming. And Choudary is the only one who can't see it.
:28:56. > :29:00.Just really drew her into that. You can see it. Sarah Clarke of England.
:29:01. > :29:19.It is that little tuck with the knee and round the back. Perfect.
:29:20. > :29:25.The other thing was she picked up two penalties on the edge, so she
:29:26. > :29:32.was struggling. She was uncomfortable on the edge. Yes.
:29:33. > :29:40.Conway in the white, Collins in blue.
:29:41. > :29:44.This is where Sally is dangerous, she has some great moves and she
:29:45. > :29:50.will take her time. You can see, she has control of that
:29:51. > :29:59.shoulder. Physically very strong. Just lost
:30:00. > :30:05.control there. Just trying to open up the elbow and get in and need
:30:06. > :30:27.that armpit, and just slipped, Sarah Collins slipped out of that one.
:30:28. > :30:39.A bit of direction there from her coach. Conway is the number one seed
:30:40. > :30:47.here, so double expectations. Not only home advantage in Scotland, but
:30:48. > :30:48.the number one seed. A real grip fighter here, both players very
:30:49. > :31:08.strong. Beautiful! Ippon. Well, I have gone
:31:09. > :31:14.with the referee. There is nothing wrong with that, absolutely nothing
:31:15. > :31:18.wrong with that, why not give ippon? We had been looking for that all
:31:19. > :31:25.morning! Beautifully executed by Sally Conway.
:31:26. > :31:38.That is why she is the number one seed, she can come up with or
:31:39. > :31:42.execute techniques like this. Oh! He was thinking about the waza-ari, you
:31:43. > :31:52.saw his arm going to that direction, and he thought better of it. Look at
:31:53. > :31:54.the smile there. The Australian looking at the referee, thinking
:31:55. > :32:15.no... The South African in white, Dawson
:32:16. > :32:26.of Scotland in blue. Both fighters facing stiff tests here... Oh!
:32:27. > :32:29.Dawson faces the number one seed. Van Zyl faces stiff competition from
:32:30. > :32:51.the home favourite, Patrick Dawson. Oh, he needs to be careful there.
:32:52. > :33:02.That was close, and that is a warning for Dawson. He was about to
:33:03. > :33:11.find himself in that position. If he did not know before, he knows it
:33:12. > :33:14.now! That was a little bit untidy from Van Zyl, his hands slipped, he
:33:15. > :33:22.didn't have the best of grips. He is going to pick up a penalty for that.
:33:23. > :33:31.That was the signal from the referee. The judges decided no.
:33:32. > :34:04.Nice left-sided effort from Van Zyl there.
:34:05. > :34:08.He missed with the sutemi-waza. Looking at the arm, has to be
:34:09. > :34:25.careful there. Here is dangerous, Van Zyl. Just
:34:26. > :34:37.when you think you might have him, he has you!
:34:38. > :34:45.Just a little bit off with the footwork there. I am going to say
:34:46. > :34:50.that Dawson saw that coming and moved quickly to avoid it. Yes. I
:34:51. > :34:57.think Van Zyl thought he may have had a score, he thought he had a
:34:58. > :35:04.continuation into what could have been a score, but it wasn't. Oh!
:35:05. > :35:11.I don't know what that was four. The signal from the referee wasn't clear
:35:12. > :35:18.there, there is a penalty on the board against Van Zyl. We will try
:35:19. > :35:20.to second-guess him and say that it was a gripping infringement,
:35:21. > :35:24.something wrong with the placement of the hands from Van Zyl. He is not
:35:25. > :35:40.moving his feet there. And now that is a penalty for
:35:41. > :35:50.Dawson, for holding on to one side of the jacket.
:35:51. > :35:59.Oh, nice attack. If he wants to get that leg out, he needs to tie over
:36:00. > :36:07.the top. He isn't interested. The other thing that Van Zyl, he is
:36:08. > :36:13.strong, not breathing heavily. He looks threatening, and Dawson
:36:14. > :36:18.turning away from him there. He is not called. The pressure is coming
:36:19. > :36:23.now with a minute and a half. Both fighters have been penalised just
:36:24. > :36:27.the once, we have seen Van Zyl turn positions like this, where he is
:36:28. > :36:33.defending, into attack. Not this time around, though. He stands them
:36:34. > :36:38.up, a minute and 25 left to go. Both fighters have been penalised once.
:36:39. > :36:49.The nervous South African coach there. Oh! That has got him! He
:36:50. > :37:03.thinks it is a ippon. Well, Van Zyl Putin flat on his back. -- puts
:37:04. > :37:08.him. Yes, and he has given him it. He was flat on his back. Dawson is
:37:09. > :37:13.almost running on to him, he has a lot of momentum coming forward, he
:37:14. > :37:18.just brings the left hand over. I am not going to try to identify the
:37:19. > :37:23.waza at the moment, not going to try to identify the
:37:24. > :37:30.is who throws Patrick Dawson for ippon. We said he was dangerous, but
:37:31. > :37:39.we were really talking about that. A really classy act, Van Zyl of South
:37:40. > :37:50.Africa wins by ippon. We are going to get a look at this now. Oh, it
:37:51. > :37:56.was nice! He has got nice awareness, he sees the opportunity, one hand,
:37:57. > :38:05.he does not have the right hand in, but more than enough to come up with
:38:06. > :38:08.ippon, although the referee was signalling waza-ari.
:38:09. > :38:13.Yes, disappointment for Patrick Dawson, but he will fight in the
:38:14. > :38:16.first of the repechage bouts, so good luck to him in that. I have
:38:17. > :38:23.come up onto the stage, because while that was on, we had this
:38:24. > :38:30.choir, called Big Big Sing, I'm just go to see if I can speak to them.
:38:31. > :38:36.What is your name? Suzanne barely. Tell us about your group. We were
:38:37. > :38:39.invited to come and sing, and a few of our members have been to the
:38:40. > :38:43.rehearsals, and this was an opportunity for us to showcase what
:38:44. > :38:48.we do as a community choir, because that is basically what we are. We
:38:49. > :38:51.were looking forward to coming along and taking part and showcasing what
:38:52. > :38:59.we do as a very small community choir. Where are the choir from? Are
:39:00. > :39:04.you going to do as a wee song? We are going to do a few wee songs. Do
:39:05. > :39:16.one for us live on BBC Three, ladies and gentlemen, Big Big Sing!
:39:17. > :39:32.Apparently We Are Doing Walking On Sunshine, one of my favourites. Not
:39:33. > :39:35.long now! The noise, I have to say, that they made during rehearsal, was
:39:36. > :39:39.absolutely fantastic. I expected they might be a Buddhist art,
:39:40. > :39:41.clearly we have technical issues. Just waiting for the music, oh, it
:39:42. > :39:58.has started, goodness me! # I used to think, baby, you loved
:39:59. > :40:21.me. They're! Now, baby, I'm sure. Well, that was Big Big Sing, live at
:40:22. > :40:27.Glasgow 2014. Remember to send us your Commonwelfies if you have been
:40:28. > :40:34.involved in any of the action here at the Commonwealth, or even sitting
:40:35. > :40:38.at home watching Glasgow 2014. Aimee is 11 years old, and she is at the
:40:39. > :40:43.judo, not walking on sunshine, having a fantastic time at the judo.
:40:44. > :40:49.Joshua, nine years old, very happy, also at the judo. It looks like we
:40:50. > :40:50.have got... Lee MacLachlan, a big smile from him, that looks like
:40:51. > :41:10.Laura Trott! -- Liam McLeod: Finally, one more to go, Rhianna is
:41:11. > :41:14.watching the netball today across the SACC complex. Send us those
:41:15. > :41:22.Commonwelfies, #commonwelfie, we will put them on air as the singing
:41:23. > :41:28.continues, we are heading to the hockey. Earlier we saw India defeat
:41:29. > :41:32.Wales in pool B, now Scotland and South Africa played earlier, and
:41:33. > :41:33.this is what happened. Matt Chilton and Sean Curley are your
:41:34. > :41:46.commentators. Oh, it flashed in front of the
:41:47. > :41:51.goal, and that was close, he could not get the stick onto the ball.
:41:52. > :41:58.Great aerial pass, the crash ball across the D. McIntyre wants it
:41:59. > :42:06.again, great individual run down the centre, good control. A chance of a
:42:07. > :42:08.shot on goal. The ball is still live, and it is in the back of the
:42:09. > :42:23.net, Scotland lead 1-0. Yeah, brilliant goal, great
:42:24. > :42:29.scrambling effort from Scotland. The pressure came early on. We have got
:42:30. > :42:35.a referral here, an umpire's referral, I think. Yes, and the
:42:36. > :42:42.umpire is unconvinced that the goal was legal. Here it is again. Yes,
:42:43. > :42:46.they looked to be a succession of difficult decisions to make. Falling
:42:47. > :42:56.in front of the goalkeeper, this is where the ball was left.
:42:57. > :43:02.I think Scotland were surprised to see that go in the net eventually.
:43:03. > :43:09.Just looking here, was there a foul after here? It did hit the stick of
:43:10. > :43:12.South Africa there. The South Africans were thinking the ball had
:43:13. > :43:18.gone dead, Scotland had not heard the whistle, so they played on. The
:43:19. > :43:20.final shot was from Nick Parks. There is a body, no goal.
:43:21. > :43:33.Disallowed. South Africa with two men be
:43:34. > :43:40.forward. Good stick check, we've inside. Penalty corner. Off the foot
:43:41. > :43:44.of one of the Scottish players, the first penalty corner of the match.
:43:45. > :43:53.Good skills by Norris-Jones in the end, nice build-up, draws the
:43:54. > :43:58.full-back. Once you have committed, you cannot move your feet out of the
:43:59. > :44:01.way, so it is very difficult. As a defender, you want to try not to
:44:02. > :44:08.present a beat in that way, it is very difficult. -- present feat. The
:44:09. > :44:14.Scottish defenders being reminded of the clock ticking away, ten seconds
:44:15. > :44:18.left. Now they are ready to go. The first penalty corner of the match
:44:19. > :44:24.for South Africa. Let's see what they can produce here. It is well
:44:25. > :44:34.saved! And that is over the top. Scotland come away unscathed. Good
:44:35. > :44:40.routine catcher watched it and the follow up over the bar. Bain store
:44:41. > :44:47.Scotland, flicks it back to McIntyre. He has had an excellent
:44:48. > :44:51.fist half A great effort there. Scotland on the counter attack,
:44:52. > :44:55.soaking up the pressure from South Africa and breaking, once they win
:44:56. > :45:05.that advantage, good work here. Needed somebody to be across the
:45:06. > :45:12.front of the goal. South Africa into the Scotland half for the fist time.
:45:13. > :45:18.A bit of a slip for Morris Jones who had a good first half for South
:45:19. > :45:26.Africa. Could Scotland get a goal? It is just wide. Bain showing his
:45:27. > :45:30.skill and pace there. Loveliest but just have to find that target, at
:45:31. > :45:36.this stage of the game. Find a big hole in the middle of the defence,
:45:37. > :45:40.puts it just past the post. Same again, a bit of passing
:45:41. > :45:46.practise. Eustice. Into the right hand corner.
:45:47. > :45:57.Good stick work. South Africa into the D. Trying to avoid the Scottish
:45:58. > :46:01.feet here. Lots going on. And that will hurt. Good pressure
:46:02. > :46:08.here from South Africa. They are Brucing their man advantage, Norris
:46:09. > :46:15.Joan crashes the ball across. -- using their man advantage.
:46:16. > :46:19.-- Norris-Jones. Here is Robinson. He takes it on himself, all the way
:46:20. > :46:21.-- Norris-Jones. Here is Robinson. to by line, can he flick it back in
:46:22. > :46:29.side? Penalty to South Africa. A to by line, can he flick it back in
:46:30. > :46:37.loose ball there. So, remember, the Scottish defence have 40 seconds to
:46:38. > :46:43.prepare to defend their line for this Safin penalty corner. A lovely
:46:44. > :46:50.bit of skill there. The injection will be by Peyton, let
:46:51. > :46:58.us see what South Africa can produce here. -- Paton. Is it has just
:46:59. > :47:08.deflected over the top. By one of the defenders, not by the keeper.
:47:09. > :47:14.OK, looking for a stroke because it hit the shoulder, but if it is going
:47:15. > :47:18.wide, it is... It is not, it was obviously goal ward bound, so South
:47:19. > :47:22.Africa look like they have won themselves a penalty corner, unless
:47:23. > :47:33.Scotland refer it upstairs. Yeah, they have, I think.
:47:34. > :47:37.The issue is whether it was goal ward bound or not. It is hard to
:47:38. > :47:43.tell from there Get a better idea from this angle behind the goal.
:47:44. > :47:49.Lock at Stott. Came off the back of his neck. It is difficult to tell
:47:50. > :47:57.whether it is going in the goal or going past it.
:47:58. > :48:00.I would say that is goal bound? Would you? It is difficult to tell
:48:01. > :48:05.one way or another whether that was going into the goal or not. It looks
:48:06. > :48:12.so close to the post, it could have hit the post.
:48:13. > :48:13.To change the umpire's decision there has to be conclusive evidence
:48:14. > :48:21.one way or the other. Here is a look there has to be conclusive evidence
:48:22. > :48:31.behind the goal angle It is very there has to be conclusive evidence
:48:32. > :48:46.tight. Penalty stroke. Cronje will take this and scores.
:48:47. > :48:58.It is not a brilliant stroke. There is a lot of pace on it P on it.
:48:59. > :49:22.Conjape takes it on. Plenty of stay in front of him.
:49:23. > :49:27.Penalty corner. Scotland have to face another
:49:28. > :49:35.penalty corner. So far no success from the penalty
:49:36. > :49:45.corners for either side. So, let us see what South Africa can
:49:46. > :49:50.produce here. The injection from Paton. Cronje is
:49:51. > :49:55.waiting to strike. Has another shot here, just wide.
:49:56. > :49:59.From Cronje. That is good work.
:50:00. > :50:04.Scotland coming forward. Plenty of speed here but the shot
:50:05. > :50:09.was poor. Nowhere near the goal. Bain decided
:50:10. > :50:16.to take it on himself and it shanked away. Beautiful work from Kenny
:50:17. > :50:25.Bain, a lock lovely reverse pick up. Making space, making ground.
:50:26. > :50:30.Robinson, slowing things down. Bouncing round, dangerously, penalty
:50:31. > :50:35.corner. Great strike there, but it looked
:50:36. > :50:41.like it hit the woodwork, this is the shot here. Off the defenders'
:50:42. > :50:45.stick into the air. That is why the umpire has given the -- defender's.
:50:46. > :50:52.That was a good save off his own player.
:50:53. > :51:01.Smith and Cronje are poised to have a go at this one. Here we go.
:51:02. > :51:06.Smith. Good say. Cronje.
:51:07. > :51:10.Cronje still. Claiming another penalty corner.
:51:11. > :51:16.No, it is safe as far as Scotland are concerned. Relief for the
:51:17. > :51:22.Glasgow national hockey centre crowd. Scotland are at the Safin end
:51:23. > :51:26.of the pitch. Looking for a way into the D. South Africa regrouping to
:51:27. > :51:45.defend. Good save.
:51:46. > :51:49.Ball stayed in. It bounced off the corner flag.
:51:50. > :51:53.A bit of a freaky moment. And Scotland have recovered. They are in
:51:54. > :51:58.good attacking position and they have got a penalty corner.
:51:59. > :52:03.Well that was extraordinary! That there is a first time for
:52:04. > :52:08.everything. Kenny Bain's strength there robbed the ball from the
:52:09. > :52:11.defender. Look at his work, he is so strong, he wins that penalty corner,
:52:12. > :52:15.did he like that? Beautiful strength.
:52:16. > :52:22.And all because the ball stayed in play, because it bounced off the
:52:23. > :52:26.corner flag. Scottish players lined up to respond
:52:27. > :52:31.here. Scotland's penalty corner.
:52:32. > :52:49.Here is the shot. It is just pushed away.
:52:50. > :53:01.Scotland not going for the direct path to goal. Scotland running
:53:02. > :53:07.ragged in an effort to defend. Bain. Flicks it inside. Finds himself in
:53:08. > :53:16.space and surges forward. That is a good looking pass. Good save again
:53:17. > :53:25.from Pieterses. Kenny Bain shows how good he is at traiting those funs
:53:26. > :53:32.and a lovely dephenomenon -- defensive tackle. Getting the stick
:53:33. > :53:43.in when it was needed. Paton. Eustice.
:53:44. > :53:48.Dangerous again South Africa, looking for a way through, Scotland
:53:49. > :54:02.will be careful. It is put away, the softest of goals in the end for the
:54:03. > :54:07.Safin... -- south African... Picking out the forward. Getting down the
:54:08. > :54:12.back-line. Beautiful skills. Round the back, tackle is not good enough.
:54:13. > :54:20.And the crowd watching the clock and joining in with the countdown.
:54:21. > :54:24.Scotland will be defeated in their first match of the 20th Commonwealth
:54:25. > :54:30.Games. Well, the match really came alive in

:54:36. > :54:42.pool that also features Australia, and India, along with Wales,
:54:43. > :54:47.Scotland will need things to go very much in their favour, that they are

:57:18. > :57:24.Irish man did, Barry McGuigan. I was born in Clones. I was part of
:57:25. > :57:28.a big family. My father was a travelling musicians, my mum had a
:57:29. > :57:36.grocery business which she ran with her father and the place was busy,
:57:37. > :57:40.24, we were open all hours. I was about 12-year-old. I used to
:57:41. > :57:44.hang out with a whole gang of us and we found and old pair of gloves in
:57:45. > :57:49.this derelict building, and there was only one pair, so we had one
:57:50. > :57:52.glove each. Most of the guys were bigger than me, considerably bigger
:57:53. > :57:56.than me, I punched the head off every one of them, and I realised I
:57:57. > :58:01.could be pretty good at it, so I asked my dad to bring me to the
:58:02. > :58:07.local club. I immediately took to it and it became the be-all-and-end-all
:58:08. > :58:15.of my life. I started breaking through, winning
:58:16. > :58:21.provincial titles, national titles, a guy called Gerry storey realised
:58:22. > :58:28.this kid had something. It was a 60 mile journey to Belfast,
:58:29. > :58:32.and bear in mind, I was crossing the border, driving through in many ways
:58:33. > :58:43.war-torn Northern Ireland, and it was a very bad and hostile time. It
:58:44. > :58:50.was fairly terrifying place, to go to. Boxing was a great unifier, the
:58:51. > :58:56.fact it brought people together and we could go into the Protestant side
:58:57. > :59:02.of Belfast and Catholic side and we were received with open arms in both
:59:03. > :59:06.places. The Holy come family club was a jewel in that no political
:59:07. > :59:11.talk was allowed. Even had respect for one another and Protestants and
:59:12. > :59:12.Catholics trained alongside each other at the highest level. The
:59:13. > :59:18.reason I was other at the highest level. The
:59:19. > :59:30.Commonwealth Games was because I won the upster title. So off we went to
:59:31. > :59:34.Alberta. It was my first international tournament. And you
:59:35. > :59:39.would bump into the likes of Geoff capes, Alan Wells, David Thompson.
:59:40. > :59:44.These people you saw on the television. You could not believe
:59:45. > :59:51.it. And then the competition started and it all happened so quickly. It
:59:52. > :59:58.must be stopped by! He has had enough! A new star of this
:59:59. > :00:08.Commonwealth Games. 17-year-old Barry McGuigan. My opponent in the
:00:09. > :00:18.final, he was like carved out of marble. His legs have gone. He
:00:19. > :00:26.dropped me in the second round and I wobbled in the third round. He was
:00:27. > :00:30.pushed. But I threw lots of punches back and I peppered him with lots of
:00:31. > :00:40.combinations and I did five act very bravely and I wondered on this but
:00:41. > :00:46.decision. -- and I want it. -- won it. It was emotional because I was
:00:47. > :00:55.17 and it was the first time I travelled from home and I had the
:00:56. > :00:58.gold medal. The fact that I got to represent Northern Ireland and win
:00:59. > :01:14.that big international tournament is overwhelming. When I turned
:01:15. > :01:19.professional I was 20 years old and the Troubles were very bad. I broke
:01:20. > :01:24.down and out fences and Borders and boxing was a great unifier, anyway.
:01:25. > :01:38.I just did not want to alienate people or people to feel threatened.
:01:39. > :01:41.So you did not have any anthems, the album was Danny Boy. And I would not
:01:42. > :01:47.wear any collars, my shorts were made out of the peace flag from the
:01:48. > :01:51.United Nations. I would like to think that my grounding in the
:01:52. > :01:55.amateur game and the knowledge of being perceptive of all of those
:01:56. > :02:09.sides and not offending people was very important to me, I carry that
:02:10. > :02:14.into my professional game. Barry McGuigan still looks fit enough to
:02:15. > :02:18.do some damage! Very lovely man. Great to hear from him. Let's go
:02:19. > :02:21.straight over to the live action. Michael Conlon is an action. Can he
:02:22. > :02:35.emulate his fellow countryman? Three-minute rounds of boxing. They
:02:36. > :02:44.train with them and they spar with them on. Mathew Martin. And
:02:45. > :02:59.representing Northern Ireland, Michael Conlon. The referee is from
:03:00. > :03:04.Azerbaijan. One of the emerging nations, like as extant, but has
:03:05. > :03:15.done so well in recent years in boxing. So, contest number one.
:03:16. > :03:20.Bantamweight, 66 kilograms. And the taller fighter, Michael Conlon, from
:03:21. > :03:24.Belfast, representing Northern Ireland for the second time in the
:03:25. > :03:32.Commonwealth Games. He is much fancied and getting taller by the
:03:33. > :03:37.day. Former gold medallist, he must be the favourite for this? He would
:03:38. > :03:41.be the favourite for the gold medal. He will be difficult to beat. He has
:03:42. > :03:48.moved into this division very well and has God good technique and
:03:49. > :03:54.Martin has his work cut out. -- he has got. Just measuring the gap with
:03:55. > :03:58.that bunch. He is quality, young Michael Conlon. How much of the
:03:59. > :04:02.difference does it make not having the head guard?
:04:03. > :04:09.difference does it make not having The very first time, without head
:04:10. > :04:12.guards, it is scary because they train with them and they are in
:04:13. > :04:17.tournament 's with them so they must be educated a little bit more. They
:04:18. > :04:25.want to watch their heads. They must maintain that. Five judges ringside,
:04:26. > :04:32.the computer system selects three of them for the score. The judge will
:04:33. > :04:37.give the winner of each round ten points and the loser gets from nine
:04:38. > :04:40.points right down to six points and low scorers are tallied up at the
:04:41. > :04:46.end. Michael Conlon has done well, he has covered up well. Much
:04:47. > :04:52.cleverer on the counter. And good defence by the teenager from Nauru,
:04:53. > :04:57.that tiny little island. You can just see the variation in his work,
:04:58. > :05:06.that left uppercut, even switching to the southpaw very competently.
:05:07. > :05:13.But it is that jab. And that powerful right hand. He lost in the
:05:14. > :05:20.semifinal in London to the eventual gold medal winner from Cuba. And he
:05:21. > :05:28.has moved up in the last year, Michael Conlon, he was 52 for a
:05:29. > :05:34.number of years. The boy from Nauru is very tough, he has come forward.
:05:35. > :05:39.And a very good left hand, Michael Conlon did not quite block that. He
:05:40. > :05:46.is not getting this his own way, but he is running this opening round.
:05:47. > :05:51.Yes, he is winning this. But Martin is a very tough cookie. He is trying
:05:52. > :05:57.to get to Michael Conlon. But that is a good round for the Northern
:05:58. > :06:05.Ireland Affairs athlete. He took three shots more than he would have
:06:06. > :06:09.liked. -- the northern Irish. You will see some grease being applied
:06:10. > :06:19.to his eyebrows because there is no headgear.
:06:20. > :06:28.Yes, he is very competent. Working well with his jab. And this is where
:06:29. > :06:33.that quality really comes through. He does know his stuff, three
:06:34. > :06:37.punches, walking back to the ropes, maintaining that gap, Mathew Martin
:06:38. > :06:42.comes forward but he was at the ropes and out of danger. It is so
:06:43. > :06:50.strange to see them without these head guards. They were ever present
:06:51. > :07:03.for the best part of 30 years. Yes, big changes in this sport. The first
:07:04. > :07:07.round first contest. He lost in Delhi in the quarterfinals to the
:07:08. > :07:12.Australian, Jason Maloney. That was on the older computer system and it
:07:13. > :07:17.was ten each and Maloney was judged to have landed more touches.
:07:18. > :07:20.Northern Ireland were quite upset because they thought he was a very
:07:21. > :07:26.good debt for the gold medal at that decision. -- at that division.
:07:27. > :07:32.Michael Conlon is just warming up. He got caught by the right-hand from
:07:33. > :07:41.the young boy from Nauru. They have three different boxers, he is the
:07:42. > :07:46.latest of them. -- latest. His feet are too slow, he has good movement
:07:47. > :07:52.and good range with his jab. But look at his feet, his movement is
:07:53. > :07:57.much better, Michael Conlon. Martin must step up a little bit and get
:07:58. > :08:02.his feet into the range. Michael Conlon has stepped up a gear. Moving
:08:03. > :08:09.left and right beautifully and then to his head. Mathew Martin under
:08:10. > :08:18.pressure from Michael Conlon. Looking strong. And pretty muscular
:08:19. > :08:24.and 56 kilos. The southpaw, that shows his confidence. These are very
:08:25. > :08:30.big, powerful shots coming in from him. This is a very good display up
:08:31. > :08:39.until now. He tagged him with a right hand. He is under pressure.
:08:40. > :08:40.The first kind of the tournament. And Michael Conlon has really warmed
:08:41. > :08:44.up. Looking to the corner And Michael Conlon has really warmed
:08:45. > :08:52.what his father, John, was thinking. He just indicated to keep things
:08:53. > :09:06.going. Those body shots have taken all of the steam out of him. This is
:09:07. > :09:18.near the end. Michael Conlon had gold here. The second round, that
:09:19. > :09:22.was a good performance. There was a pretty good case for stopping this.
:09:23. > :09:28.You don't want any man to take too many hard shots. Those shots are
:09:29. > :09:39.hurting. Very accurate, Michael Conlon. Looking impressive. The
:09:40. > :09:47.referee should be stepping in. We assume he will win this. His next
:09:48. > :09:53.boxer will be much more difficult. Punching downstairs into the body.
:09:54. > :10:01.He is really hurting this fellow. He was reading my mind. That was an
:10:02. > :10:11.easy opening round. He will settle for another round. It was the body
:10:12. > :10:17.shots doing the damage. Those combinations going in from Michael
:10:18. > :10:23.Conlon, good head shots. Four of them. Three of them hitting the
:10:24. > :10:27.target. He did well to survive, Mathew Martin. But it was that left
:10:28. > :10:37.uppercut to the body. And then Michael Conlon, that was a big shot
:10:38. > :10:41.downstairs. Well... Pretty comprehensive, that second round.
:10:42. > :10:48.Every single judge giving that to Michael Conlon. He is miles ahead.
:10:49. > :10:56.It is up his eyebrows can hold up. Let us hope all of the eyebrows can
:10:57. > :11:09.hold up. Only one contest was stopped in the last three Olympic
:11:10. > :11:16.Games. Michael Conlon, once again going downstairs with his left hand.
:11:17. > :11:22.Holding his guard. Leaving that gap between his elbow and his ribs. He
:11:23. > :11:28.shall just see this round out and save his energy or will he go for
:11:29. > :11:34.the stoppage? He has to decide. Well, he has this one in the bag
:11:35. > :11:44.unless the wheels come off. Oh, my Lord! Just as we were talking about
:11:45. > :11:50.that. He is cut. Was that a clash of heads? That is a perfect case for
:11:51. > :11:55.using head guards. This is one of the gold medal favourites and they
:11:56. > :12:03.are not too -- they are not allowed to use stitches between contests.
:12:04. > :12:09.That was pretty high. Not so bad. I thought it was his eyebrow and that
:12:10. > :12:16.would have been terrible for Michael Conlon and Northern Ireland. He must
:12:17. > :12:23.use range and distance. This man will come with everything. He will
:12:24. > :12:31.try to worsen that cut. It does not look like it has got any worse. We
:12:32. > :12:35.still have a couple of minutes to go until the end of this. But
:12:36. > :12:46.psychologically, this is big for the youngster from Nauru. Yes, he will
:12:47. > :12:51.just go for this. It is a case of one boxer going for it on the other
:12:52. > :12:55.keeping his distance. I think every Northern Ireland part stopped
:12:56. > :13:07.whenever they saw that stream of blood. -- heart. I think it is
:13:08. > :13:13.somewhere around his hairline. He is asking to go to the neutral corner.
:13:14. > :13:22.Is that another cut? It could be sweating above. We used to call that
:13:23. > :13:26.a mouse. It was normally under the eye. Very large. That is a serious
:13:27. > :13:28.rodent. a mouse. It was normally under the
:13:29. > :13:35.eye. Very large. That Michael Conlon. Cut but under control. But
:13:36. > :13:40.his confidence must have been shattered. You cannot help but
:13:41. > :13:46.think, is this serious? It will probably require some stitches. It
:13:47. > :13:52.won't be much of a problem. Michael Conlon has the experience to box and
:13:53. > :13:59.distance. Martin has to go for this. He is very tired. He is lunging and
:14:00. > :14:02.lumbering forward. The fitness of Michael Conlon is without question.
:14:03. > :14:12.That is good work right Michael Conlon. He is winning this at a
:14:13. > :14:17.canter. Despite that cut. Clever boxing, on the outside. Picking
:14:18. > :14:23.those singles shots. He has won this contest. An appreciative round of
:14:24. > :14:33.applause from the knowledgeable Glasgow cried. They do love boxing.
:14:34. > :14:42.With or without their nests. -- vests. He says, thank you very much
:14:43. > :14:49.indeed. They will have a very good look at him. Yes, good performance
:14:50. > :14:56.from Michael Conlon. He kept his distance, there was that clash. This
:14:57. > :15:02.is when the damage was done. He had nothing to lose, coming forward.
:15:03. > :15:07.That was high on his head. Thankfully, for Michael Conlon. But
:15:08. > :15:15.then he kept distance and he has had experience. He has three days before
:15:16. > :15:21.his next contest. And they are not worried. I don't think so. It looks
:15:22. > :15:33.worse than what it is. So we will be awaiting the very
:15:34. > :15:39.first decision on this, the very first contest in the boxing
:15:40. > :15:46.tournament here at Glasgow 2014. Michael Conlan from Northern
:15:47. > :15:54.Ireland... The opening contest, your appreciation, please, for both
:15:55. > :15:58.boxers in the ring. A unanimous decision, in
:15:59. > :16:06.boxers in the ring. corner, representing Northern
:16:07. > :16:16.Ireland, Michael Conlan! Well, 3-0 for Michael Conlan.
:16:17. > :16:30.Overall, he won it at a canter, a comprehensive victory, but they will
:16:31. > :16:37.be a bit nervous about that cut. There you have the judges Borel
:16:38. > :16:41.macro scorecards. -- judges' scorecards. You won every round, be
:16:42. > :17:13.handsomely. -- comprehensively. Contest number
:17:14. > :17:18.two, please welcome Kenya and waza, both boxers to the ring. The boxer
:17:19. > :17:37.from Kenya coming into the SCC CC here. The Kenyans have faded in
:17:38. > :17:45.terms of Commonwealth boxing, but they have got one of the best teams
:17:46. > :17:51.in a long time. His opponent is from Guyana, a member of the armed
:17:52. > :17:53.forces, 21 years of age, Imran Khan, a familiar name! Different sport,
:17:54. > :18:12.mind you! Brisbane, 1992, going back all the
:18:13. > :18:32.way to those games, three gold medals for Kenya and three for
:18:33. > :18:39.a good spread of judges yet again, Argentina, Canada, Slovakia,
:18:40. > :18:48.Uzbekistan and Poland, a lot of familiar names to fans of Olympic,
:18:49. > :18:59.world, European Championship boxing. Representing Kenya, Benson Njangiru!
:19:00. > :19:12.A little moment of contemplation for the man from Kenya. Representing
:19:13. > :19:16.Guyana, Imran Khan! He boxed in the world championship in Kazakhstan,
:19:17. > :19:24.Imran Khan, lost to the excellent fighter from the Philippines. The
:19:25. > :19:26.man from Kazakhstan is the referee, Kazakhstan, in the last 20 years,
:19:27. > :19:31.has really emerged as Kazakhstan, in the last 20 years,
:19:32. > :19:37.force, a lot of Olympic medals, world medals, and here they come.
:19:38. > :19:42.Big, tall fella, Imran Khan from Guyana, and how he gets that frame
:19:43. > :19:49.in 256 kilograms, I've no idea, but he is in against a man who is a
:19:50. > :19:55.powerhouse. -- that frame into 56 kilograms. He was injured in the
:19:56. > :19:59.final against the Indian opponent, who went on to take the gold,
:20:00. > :20:04.needless to say. A great contest of styles. Totally different set of
:20:05. > :20:08.tactics for both these boxers, calm, boxing at distance, using height and
:20:09. > :20:12.reach, making his opponent for short and going back with counters. He
:20:13. > :20:16.does not want to be mixing it on the inside, but this smaller Kenyan
:20:17. > :20:21.boxer has got to target the body. Just falling short with that shot,
:20:22. > :20:28.he has to target the body and then switch the attack to the head.
:20:29. > :20:31.Njangiru got to the quarterfinals of the World Championships last year,
:20:32. > :20:43.lost out to the eventual gold medal winner from Azerbaijan the boxed in
:20:44. > :20:48.the Olympics a few years ago and lost to a very good man from
:20:49. > :20:53.Uzbekistan. At the moment he is just edging this, not allowing his man to
:20:54. > :20:57.move. Good right hand over the top, a shot he should be looking for,
:20:58. > :21:02.targeting the body and then whipping that over. He has got to try to get
:21:03. > :21:10.his opponent back onto the ropes, restrict that movement from Khan.
:21:11. > :21:19.Big, long arms, Khan, and quite fast hands. He has got to target with the
:21:20. > :21:24.right uppercut through the middle, but it is the movements that is key,
:21:25. > :21:29.. He does not want to be on the ropes and in the corners, he has to
:21:30. > :21:36.box in the spaces in the centre of the ring. Left hand is a bit on the
:21:37. > :21:46.low side, Njangiru might expose that, little short left from the
:21:47. > :21:53.Kenyan. Watch the head. Nice shot to the body from Njangiru. It is a big
:21:54. > :21:55.target. He is conceding four or five inches in height, a lot of torso to
:21:56. > :22:08.be landed upon. Sneaky little right uppercut from
:22:09. > :22:14.Guyana, didn't land. 20 seconds to go until the end of the first
:22:15. > :22:15.absorbing, but for my money, the Kenyon has just about nicked this
:22:16. > :22:34.one. Ten seconds to go. Slicing, slashing shots from the man
:22:35. > :22:38.from Guyana. Easy opening round. Very busy indeed, the Kenyon,
:22:39. > :22:45.Njangiru, probably just did enough to close that gap. Khan has
:22:46. > :22:48.struggled to keep his man at bay, allowing Njangiru to close the gap
:22:49. > :22:52.and get to him a little bit. Let's have a look at some of the action,
:22:53. > :22:57.Njangiru coming forward, lovely screw shot to the middle, just
:22:58. > :23:02.walking his man down. Look, shots going in from Khan, but they were
:23:03. > :23:07.inaccurate. Let's have a look at the scoring. Well, yes. One of the
:23:08. > :23:14.judges has given it to the man in blue, which I find interesting, but
:23:15. > :23:17.not much between them. I do not know whether they are able to tell them
:23:18. > :23:21.what the scores are, they used to do in the old days. That eyebrow has
:23:22. > :23:26.been leading some attention in recent weeks, it looks as if he has
:23:27. > :23:32.got himself cut in sparring. Don't forget the gumshield! We used to say
:23:33. > :23:37.all the things that were required before you left the corner, the
:23:38. > :23:41.gloves and the gumshield, the cut protector and the headgear, but
:23:42. > :23:45.there is no headgear anymore. A lively start now by Imran Khan, he
:23:46. > :24:01.knows he probably lost the first round, but not by very much.
:24:02. > :24:08.Khan should be concentrating on straight shots, forget the bent arm.
:24:09. > :24:13.That is where he does is better work to the body. Khan has cost to
:24:14. > :24:19.control this contest behind the jar, a long, straight right hand. He
:24:20. > :24:27.is too close, he has got to step away. Maintaining the gap. Take up a
:24:28. > :24:33.pace backwards, then use those big, long levers. One minutes gone in the
:24:34. > :24:38.second, still pretty close. Solid thump of a left to the body by
:24:39. > :24:42.Njangiru, just trying to bring his man's gloves up. Oh, good right
:24:43. > :24:52.hand, hesitated for a moment and then landed. I just think that Khan
:24:53. > :24:57.is choosing the wrong tactics here, holding his feet. When he is
:24:58. > :25:03.moving, he is harder to it. He gets caught there coming forward with a
:25:04. > :25:06.low left hand. And he's too slow getting it in. He needs to pepper
:25:07. > :25:10.his opponent with it, and he's not doing it. Sweet right hand from
:25:11. > :25:27.Njangiru. A policeman back at home, Benson
:25:28. > :25:33.Njangiru. He did not get close enough there, got his feet out of
:25:34. > :25:39.kilter, and again. Oh, that was a good one, he fooled him. Missed him
:25:40. > :25:44.twice, pegging with the third one. Look at Khan's guard, just inviting
:25:45. > :25:48.to be hit. Njangiru was boxing better on the back foot, because
:25:49. > :25:52.Khan is very inaccurate with his work and keeps falling short, and
:25:53. > :26:00.then he is committed. That is why the geeks walking on two punches.
:26:01. > :26:06.Njangiru not under pressure. -- that is why he is walking onto punches. A
:26:07. > :26:11.change of tactics by Njangiru, allowing his man to lead off. He has
:26:12. > :26:16.boxed very well up to now, this Kenyan. A solid right hand to the
:26:17. > :26:22.left-hand side of the head of Imran Khan from Guyana. He is tiring a
:26:23. > :26:30.little bit, nothing much coming through at the moment, ten seconds
:26:31. > :26:33.to go. Good footwork by Njangiru, maybe just setting himself for the
:26:34. > :26:35.third round, but I think he has won this one as well, but not much
:26:36. > :26:46.between them. Lovely boxing at the end of the
:26:47. > :26:50.round there from Njangiru. Look at that, just slipped that shot, what a
:26:51. > :26:52.beautiful counterpunch with the right hand, slipped to his right,
:26:53. > :27:00.and then through the right-hand counter. Perfect timing, great shot.
:27:01. > :27:04.He got himself out of trouble too. Khan with his hands low, he has got
:27:05. > :27:15.the tools for the job, but he is not using them.
:27:16. > :27:24.Well, he is reasonably well in control at this date, every single
:27:25. > :27:32.judge giving it to Njangiru by 10-9 scoreline. So the man in blue, Imran
:27:33. > :27:39.Khan, is going to have to pull out every single stop and a bit more if
:27:40. > :27:49.he is going to win this. The referee just checking that the waterspout is
:27:50. > :27:53.taken away. Khan coming forward, he has to be aggressive, he has got the
:27:54. > :27:57.hands up, and he has got to maintain that pressure. Njangiru just
:27:58. > :27:58.cleverly moving away from him, trying to counter, which he very
:27:59. > :28:05.good at. -- he is very good at. Again, Njangiru not getting the
:28:06. > :28:18.distance right. Khan, if he uses his height and
:28:19. > :28:23.reach, he is a difficult man to get to, but he falls into his opponents
:28:24. > :28:27.after years thrown his shots. With a low guard, he keeps getting caught.
:28:28. > :28:30.His guard is a little bit higher now, but he chooses the wrong
:28:31. > :28:35.tactics for me. He should be hitting and moving, boxing at range, rather
:28:36. > :28:42.than stepping in, trying to take his man on.
:28:43. > :28:49.Again, Khan missing wildly, with a slow shot too, nothing really behind
:28:50. > :28:54.it. He has not used his physical advantage, Ritchie, he hasn't used
:28:55. > :28:59.his height or reach. You should have used them much better in the first
:29:00. > :29:04.and second rounds, Jim, and he is a bit desperate now, and that might
:29:05. > :29:10.even suit Njangiru. Lovely little left hook to the body, he has hurt
:29:11. > :29:14.his opponent. Njangiru clearly warming up, a slow start to the
:29:15. > :29:18.round, but as we go into the second half, a little caution for not
:29:19. > :29:22.hitting with the knuckle part of the glove, which in olden days used to
:29:23. > :29:28.be picked out in white. They don't bother with that anymore. Fair to
:29:29. > :29:30.say that amateur boxing is getting, inevitably and inexorably, closer to
:29:31. > :29:38.professional boxing as the years go by. Like pro boxing with breast!
:29:39. > :29:46.Good left-hand from Njangiru, just pushed back the head of Imran Khan.
:29:47. > :30:01.Good shot, right on the button. Last minute of the last round.
:30:02. > :30:12.counterpuncher that was from Njangiru. Slipping the shot to the
:30:13. > :30:19.right. He started off as a flyweight, he was in the World
:30:20. > :30:34.Championship in 2009. And he is now up to and wait. And looking pretty
:30:35. > :30:43.useful. -- bantamweight. He will not be far away when the medals are
:30:44. > :30:48.being given out here. Pretty good effort from Imran Khan, the
:30:49. > :30:53.21-year-old. His first major Commonwealth Games. The first time
:30:54. > :31:01.we have seen him in anything major. Lovely display. That counterpunch.
:31:02. > :31:09.And then pulling back with his right hand. Very clever boxer, indeed. He
:31:10. > :31:14.just waited. Just beating his opponent to the punch and stepping
:31:15. > :31:21.inside. Quick off the mark and good skills, good performance. Although
:31:22. > :31:26.he was giving away a lot in terms of reach, he was able to close that
:31:27. > :31:36.gap. Round of applause for both boxers here in Glasgow. I'm sure it
:31:37. > :31:59.will be man in red. I love it when it boxing gets
:32:00. > :32:07.underway. Some fantastic stuff so far. The earlier bout was Michael
:32:08. > :32:11.Conlon, we had the video with Ari McGuigan doing well back in 1978 and
:32:12. > :32:18.Michael Conlon wants to copy his countryman. He was speaking
:32:19. > :32:22.afterwards. Were you pleased after that?
:32:23. > :32:35.Just happy to get back into the ring for the first time. I only had two
:32:36. > :32:42.weeks. I was glad to be first out. And put Northern Ireland on the map.
:32:43. > :32:49.What about that nasty clash? I thought it was a cut on my eyes but
:32:50. > :32:59.then I find out it was on my head. I was worried. The blood was trickling
:33:00. > :33:04.into my eyes and I could not see. Afterwards I felt in control. You
:33:05. > :33:10.have been waiting for years to make up for the disappointment of the
:33:11. > :33:15.last Commonwealth Games? Yes, that was a let down, I was crying in the
:33:16. > :33:23.airport. I was really disappointed. But I am back here. Glasgow 2014.
:33:24. > :33:28.You have some great experience. Winning the medal at the Olympic
:33:29. > :33:34.Games. I imagine your eyes are on one thing, the gold medal. Silver
:33:35. > :33:40.last year in Europe, gold medal at the Commonwealth Games, yes. Very
:33:41. > :33:43.good indeed from Michael Conlon and we will see more of him during the
:33:44. > :33:48.course of the Commonwealth Games. We will now turn attention to the table
:33:49. > :33:55.tennis. This is the earlier match for Scotland. Playing Tanzania. We
:33:56. > :35:39.will join Craig Harrison. The youngster is very tall, Doherty.
:35:40. > :35:47.Studying at the University of Edinburgh. That was after two years
:35:48. > :36:06.playing table tennis full-time in France with a club before coming
:36:07. > :36:11.back to go to university. Part of that decision to return was to
:36:12. > :36:21.prepare for these, love games. And get that training system set up. --
:36:22. > :36:33.these Commonwealth Games. Level in the opening game. Lots of pressure
:36:34. > :36:46.being the host nation. Particularly playing in your home city, where you
:36:47. > :36:51.were born. I cannot think of anything pressure -- anything
:36:52. > :36:59.better, enjoying the home crowd and all of that support. And getting the
:37:00. > :37:03.recognition and exposure for the sport. That is very nice headgear. I
:37:04. > :37:27.wonder who they are rooting for? That is good placement from Sean
:37:28. > :37:55.Doherty. Closing in on this opening game. That is a very nice return.
:37:56. > :38:08.They are really keeping the pressure on the ScottishPower. -- Scottish
:38:09. > :38:21.pair. This is a big point. And the Scots manager at. -- management. And
:38:22. > :38:34.that nod of approval. To gain points for Scotland. Sean Doherty and Craig
:38:35. > :39:06.Howieson. -- two game points. And they take it. 11-8. After having one
:39:07. > :39:12.the opening matches, in the singles. -- after winning. Sean Doherty
:39:13. > :39:18.really likes to have a crack at it. He has reached around the table
:39:19. > :39:34.well. This is where they did seal that opening game.
:39:35. > :40:17.These quiet little conferences they have on the bench, for Tanzania.
:40:18. > :40:37.These quiet little conferences they Well played from Craig Howieson.
:40:38. > :40:58.Some very sharp returns. Well... The relief destroying that
:40:59. > :41:09.serve, it was just setting up their 4-to-1. -- they are really
:41:10. > :41:19.destroying. Just setting up their four Sean Doherty. They must try
:41:20. > :41:42.some way to defuse the power of the Scots.
:41:43. > :42:01.-- sitting up there. This is a short serve but they are putting in a good
:42:02. > :42:02.return. This, from Sean Doherty, gives Tanzania their first point of
:42:03. > :42:40.the game. Well, Craig Howieson and Sean
:42:41. > :42:50.Doherty giving the crowd plenty to cheer about. This is one-sided at
:42:51. > :43:07.the moment, they are really going through this in style.
:43:08. > :43:16.Scintillating return from Craig Howieson.
:43:17. > :44:03.Sean Doherty and Craig Howieson taking it 11-3. They were being
:44:04. > :44:06.tougher on Mtalaso and Tumaini in that game. Some great powerful play
:44:07. > :44:29.from Scotland. He serves not short enough. Not
:44:30. > :44:32.enough spin. Scotland were able to handle those serves very well.
:44:33. > :45:03.Getting that good head of the returns. -- hit at.
:45:04. > :46:03.It has been an uphill battle for Mtalaso and Tumaini.
:46:04. > :46:15.Two teams from each of the groups in the preliminary round go through to
:46:16. > :46:25.the knockout phase, P16 draw -- the 16 draw. Scotland will go through as
:46:26. > :46:35.number one in this group. It is very important in terms of the seedings
:46:36. > :46:39.into the last 16. Make sure you don't face one of the top teams
:46:40. > :47:35.early on. the teams event, including for
:47:36. > :47:42.funding, which is so important in every country.
:47:43. > :47:49.Scotland had an awful lot of trouble after not doing so well in 2010,
:47:50. > :47:56.expected to finish in the top eight, and instead, because of the draw,
:47:57. > :48:01.did not get that top eight finish, and their funding was just about
:48:02. > :48:05.withdrawn, certainly cut devastatingly. It has only been in
:48:06. > :48:09.the last two years that things have really started to look up for them
:48:10. > :48:15.again with more funding coming through and the new national coach
:48:16. > :48:22.starting in 2012. So a couple of years in the wilderness. But Team
:48:23. > :48:25.Scotland certainly well aware of the order of the finish in these big
:48:26. > :48:40.events. And as the home team, I am sure that
:48:41. > :48:41.Scotland is not just thinking top eight - they are thinking of a medal
:48:42. > :48:53.in their hands. They are marching through this one,
:48:54. > :49:11.match point for Scotland. Plenty of encouragement coming their way.
:49:12. > :49:23.Scotland and seals the final match in this qualifying phase of the
:49:24. > :49:29.tournament against Tanzania. Howieson and Doherty taking a bow
:49:30. > :49:33.after their doubles win. The kilts are here, the Scottish Labour, and
:49:34. > :49:40.that is going to bring out the best in these men. -- the Scottish
:49:41. > :49:50.flavour. So that doubles win adding to the singles victories.
:49:51. > :49:57.Great win for Scotland, they go through as the leaders of pool E,
:49:58. > :50:00.Canada, Uganda and Tanzania, they will go through as winners to the
:50:01. > :50:06.next round of the team table tennis, men's, congratulations to them, good
:50:07. > :50:10.effort. We asked you throughout the programme, and we will continue
:50:11. > :50:18.throughout Glasgow 2014, to send us your Commonwelfies, hashtag
:50:19. > :50:23.#commonwelfie, and some of you have been responding to the core. This is
:50:24. > :50:29.the first one, look at that, with a cyclist over her shoulder, I hope
:50:30. > :50:39.you are not driving! Next up we have got Jimmy Campbell, he is on a train
:50:40. > :50:43.coming to Glasgow, and he is excited to watch 2014. He is coming this
:50:44. > :50:48.weekend to watch things live, he may even come to BBC Pacific Quay.
:50:49. > :50:52.Suzanne Kennedy is very happy indeed to be alongside some of the South
:50:53. > :50:57.African team members, that looks like, hashtag #commonwelfie.
:50:58. > :51:02.African team members, that looks talking about South Africa, we can
:51:03. > :51:06.go back to the boxing just now, one of the finest boxers of all time is
:51:07. > :51:13.heading over, just about to go on, we will join this match up against
:51:14. > :51:47.the South African boxer, Henry Terrell.
:51:48. > :51:53.First-round! So the opening bell sounds inner-city name to
:51:54. > :52:02.welterweight contest between the boxer wearing blue, representing
:52:03. > :52:08.Samoa, Henry to -- Tyrell, boxing out of the orthodox stance. The tall
:52:09. > :52:11.figure in red is Mbenge from South Africa. 23 years old, competing in
:52:12. > :52:21.his first Commonwealth Games as well. Plenty of also without long,
:52:22. > :52:27.lean frame, which Tyrell will be looking to target during because of
:52:28. > :52:31.this three round contest. Mbenge is very relaxed with his lead hands,
:52:32. > :52:41.but he has a very fast jab indeed, this South African. -- with his left
:52:42. > :52:45.hand. The lower left hand is his problem, Tyrell will target the
:52:46. > :52:50.right hand over the top. He has to draw his man onto the shot, moved to
:52:51. > :52:58.his left a little bit, bringing Mbenge onto his right hand. Good
:52:59. > :53:05.left-hand to the body from Mbenge. You can see from the muscular,
:53:06. > :53:11.compact physique of Tyrell that he has been a middleweight as early as
:53:12. > :53:18.2014. His most recent title came in that 75 kilograms category, so
:53:19. > :53:22.slimming back down to welterweight. He did not complain about that low
:53:23. > :53:31.and. A good sneaky left-hand over the low held right of Tyrell a few
:53:32. > :53:34.moments ago. Yeah, really gaining in confidence, a tall, rangy fighter,
:53:35. > :53:40.and what he is doing now, boxing at range, whipping the shots in, got
:53:41. > :53:49.that speed and movement. Tyrell has to bite his time, but it is Mbenge
:53:50. > :53:54.that is doing all the scoring. Good right hand over the top, working the
:53:55. > :54:01.body effectively, sharpshooting exhibition so far from Mbenge.
:54:02. > :54:06.Tyrell going to have to find a way to negotiate those long levers, and
:54:07. > :54:08.look at the confidence, sleep right hand from somewhere around his
:54:09. > :54:15.kneecap from Mbenge, delivering punchers from all angles and
:54:16. > :54:21.bamboozling the man from Samoa. Yes, showing his skills, walking forward,
:54:22. > :54:26.taking half a step back to draw the lead of his opponents, and then he
:54:27. > :54:32.whips in the counters, boxing very well at range, but just drifting in
:54:33. > :54:36.and out of punching range, Mbenge. Good skills. Rather square on, I
:54:37. > :54:42.thought he was going to turn south for, but he's left his feet splayed.
:54:43. > :54:47.He is finding an inviting home on the target areas of Tyrell. The ten
:54:48. > :54:53.second platter has sounded and there is the bell to conclude round number
:54:54. > :55:00.one, a pretty dominant display from the man from South Africa. --
:55:01. > :55:04.clatter. Not bothering to take cases between rounds, let's take a look at
:55:05. > :55:11.some of the action, right hand over the top. -- to take a seat. Good
:55:12. > :55:15.skills from Mbenge, in with the feet, good movement, accurate shots
:55:16. > :55:20.from that right hand, maintaining the gap, then switching downstairs
:55:21. > :55:24.to the body, switching to the head, opened here and there, but as the
:55:25. > :55:30.round went on, footwork improved. This kid has got some good skills,
:55:31. > :55:34.this South African. Taking the round in unanimous favour. Remember, three
:55:35. > :55:40.of the judges scoring, five overall, the computer selects three of them
:55:41. > :55:45.randomly before the opening bell. It is their scores that are used to
:55:46. > :55:50.determine the outcome of the round and indeed the contest. So into the
:55:51. > :55:57.second round we go, the tall, rangy figure of Tulani Mbenge the strikes
:55:58. > :56:00.out confidently to centre ring, looking to continue in the manner
:56:01. > :56:05.with which he boxed in the first round. The first few moments of that
:56:06. > :56:09.opening session, something of a reconnaissance mission, just taking
:56:10. > :56:17.a look at Tyrell, but as the round progressed, great confidence,
:56:18. > :56:20.effective to the body, snaking out shots from around his belt line, and
:56:21. > :56:28.one particular right hand from around his kneecap! Tyrell, well, he
:56:29. > :56:32.was put under sustained pressure in the form of punches coming from the
:56:33. > :56:37.South African, and it is the South African who has begun the second
:56:38. > :56:43.round in the way he wanted, good right hand over the top, and another
:56:44. > :56:46.one, but brings a round of applause from his coaching contingent and the
:56:47. > :56:50.South Africans sprinkled in the crowd. We need to see a tempo change
:56:51. > :56:57.from Tyrell, the keeps trying single shots, and Mbenge is boxing in the
:56:58. > :57:00.comfort zone, controlling pace and the distance between himself and his
:57:01. > :57:06.opponent. He is hitting his opponent at will, so we need Tyrell to up the
:57:07. > :57:09.pace, sustained pressure, put his man and a little bit more pressure,
:57:10. > :57:16.but he keeps getting caught, he is hurt now. His feet are far too slow,
:57:17. > :57:23.Ron. We talked about how Tyrell is coming down from middleweight,
:57:24. > :57:26.Mbenge is a man who is coming up from 64 kilograms,
:57:27. > :57:31.light-welterweight. That is where he won two national titles in 2010,
:57:32. > :57:36.2011, participated in the World Championships in back to, Azerbaijan
:57:37. > :57:40.at that weight as well. That is the hand over the top that we spoke
:57:41. > :57:45.about, success from Tyrell, and Mbenge got complacent. Things were
:57:46. > :57:50.going to easy for him, and he gets caught with a shot. Another right
:57:51. > :57:55.hand over the top catches the whiskers of Mbenge, a stiff
:57:56. > :58:01.right-hand, and any distress he was feeling appears to have dissipated,
:58:02. > :58:05.good left hook catches Tyrell off balance, then a snaking left hand
:58:06. > :58:08.again. Now Tyrell being forced backwards, almost as though he is
:58:09. > :58:10.putting all of his eggs into the basket of landing a good right hand
:58:11. > :58:22.over the top. 30 seconds to go in this second
:58:23. > :58:26.round, Tyrell has had more success in the second session than in the
:58:27. > :58:31.opener, stiff right-hand over the top again from Mbenge, sharp and
:58:32. > :58:34.fast and straight. And Tyrell, to this point, hasn't found an
:58:35. > :58:39.effective method to defend against it.
:58:40. > :58:48.Again, Mbenge in control, act into the comfort zone. I think Tyrell has
:58:49. > :58:52.been hurt two or three times, and that has slowed him down. He had a
:58:53. > :58:56.better round, but he did not do enough to win it. Just glimpses of
:58:57. > :59:02.what he is capable of with his right hand, but it was Mbenge's round.
:59:03. > :59:07.Mbenge again electing to stand between rounds. There was that right
:59:08. > :59:12.hand, picked his punch but should have followed it up. It was a good
:59:13. > :59:18.shot. And it's just showed Mbenge, woke him up a little bit. But Tyrell
:59:19. > :59:22.didn't follow it up. Another round in unanimous favour, unanimous
:59:23. > :59:28.fashion for the man from South Africa. After two rounds of boxing,
:59:29. > :59:34.he has taken both of them, 10-9 from the scoring judges at ringside.
:59:35. > :59:35.Remember, three of the five randomly selected to determine the scope of
:59:36. > :00:07.the round. -- the score. go. The boxer in red, Mbenge has
:00:08. > :00:20.taken the first two rounds. He is in relatively comfortable control. He
:00:21. > :00:28.is against Henry Tyrell from Samoa. He has the greater range and greater
:00:29. > :00:39.length than Mbenge, which has been used to keep him at bay. Mbenge just
:00:40. > :00:50.warned about punches straying low. That happened in the first round.
:00:51. > :00:58.Body shots beginning to sap the speed and the movement from the man
:00:59. > :01:08.from Samoa. Good right hand from Mbenge which forces Tyrell to cover
:01:09. > :01:27.up. Under pressure now, and feeling the pays. Tyrell has been hurt a few
:01:28. > :01:29.times now. That is a bad sign, on the ropes. Mbenge feels he can stop
:01:30. > :01:30.this opponent. His movement has really slowed down now, Tyrell.
:01:31. > :01:37.Presenting a static standing target. Mbenge is taking advantage,
:01:38. > :01:40.peppering to both head and body. Mbenge is boxing as a South for now,
:01:41. > :01:48.totally in control. When you Mbenge is boxing as a South for now,
:01:49. > :01:59.feet and there is no head movement from Tyrell, he is an easy target.
