:00:00. > :00:00.South Africa has done enough. It has been a comfortable display. Not

:00:00. > :00:11.entirely conventional boxing, but it has been a fact. This tall, rangy

:00:12. > :00:17.boxer from South Africa. Surely Mbenge will go through to the next

:00:18. > :00:24.round. Dominant display by the South African. Did what he wanted. He

:00:25. > :00:27.switched from orthodox to southpaw, showing his confidence. We saw right

:00:28. > :00:32.hand is going in from Mbenge and then he switches to the body shot.

:00:33. > :00:41.Good stuff from Mbenge and totally in control. Long-range work was his

:00:42. > :00:45.strength. He will have two tight in his guard up as he goes further in

:00:46. > :00:48.the competition but nevertheless a dominant display and he will be

:00:49. > :01:02.happy to get the first one under his belt. I rather weary walk to the

:01:03. > :01:09.centre of the ring from Tyrell. He perhaps knows the fate that awaits

:01:10. > :01:20.him. Ladies and gentlemen we have jaw -- scores. Winner by unanimous

:01:21. > :01:25.decision, Mbenge! Mbenge from South Africa takes the unanimous points

:01:26. > :01:30.decision over the boxer from Samoa, Henry Tyrell. His confidence is only

:01:31. > :01:42.going to grow as he goes deeper into the tournament.

:01:43. > :01:51.Mbenge dominant in that out and deserved the victory. This is the

:01:52. > :01:56.end of me on BBC Three. Official hand over to you and so far you

:01:57. > :02:03.would have been out and about at the judo and you saw some great British

:02:04. > :02:07.fighters? In some respects, everybody was keeping on the medal

:02:08. > :02:13.hunt as to where Scotland's first gold medal would go. A lot of money

:02:14. > :02:21.would have gone on the swimming pool, but judo was the place to be.

:02:22. > :02:30.Outstanding for the home nations, 11 medals in all. Gold medals won by

:02:31. > :02:40.Kimberly and Louis Rennick. Fantastic story. You could not help

:02:41. > :02:48.but feel proud for them because they must have had a big party last

:02:49. > :03:00.night. 3-goal medals for an English fighter? Yes, Scott Oakes. He said I

:03:01. > :03:03.am happy but he said your microphone close to my face. I said, this is

:03:04. > :03:11.how we hold it, but enjoy your success. It was fantastic. But

:03:12. > :03:17.talking of judo, John Buchanan who came out of retirement and picked up

:03:18. > :03:22.the bronze medal in his home games. 38 years old and he will be joining

:03:23. > :03:26.as a live on BBC Three. Of course, you have already had a few exciting

:03:27. > :03:31.heats on the second day of Glasgow 2014. We reckon it will only whet

:03:32. > :03:42.your appetite because there is so much to come between now and seven

:03:43. > :03:46.p.m.. First of all let's go to Glasgow Green in the middle of

:03:47. > :03:58.Glasgow city centre, the oldest public park in the city. It is

:03:59. > :04:00.hosting the brand-new national this is the highest ranked side against

:04:01. > :04:25.the lowest ranked side. Australia are taking on Wales. An early touch

:04:26. > :04:29.and get rid of the nerves the Wales. Making some progress down the left

:04:30. > :04:34.flank. She is surrounded by three Australian players. Not many outlets

:04:35. > :04:40.are heard to get the ball. She does well and get the applause. Richards

:04:41. > :05:22.was off but told back. Wilkinson. Flannigan batting the ball around

:05:23. > :05:31.the pitch. Finds Kelli, White goal-scorer yesterday against

:05:32. > :05:37.Malaysia. Gets the first penalty corner of the match, Kelli White.

:05:38. > :05:50.The might and power of the penalty corner. Couple of choices. Brilliant

:05:51. > :05:57.baseline play. She waited for the Welsh defender to see if she was

:05:58. > :06:04.going to put her stick down. The teams have 40 seconds for the

:06:05. > :06:10.defence to put all their gear on. Wales looked ready and Australia

:06:11. > :06:22.refining what they are going to do. We have Flannigan number nine. Just

:06:23. > :06:26.why this time. It was the only corner Australia used in their first

:06:27. > :06:32.match. Directly off the top. The disguise Kenny gets on that. She

:06:33. > :06:47.should be finding the backboard with that. Flanagan. Finds East Ham.

:06:48. > :07:02.Catches the stick of the Welsh defender. White again, just showing

:07:03. > :07:15.the crowd her expertise and close ball control. Underhit.

:07:16. > :07:32.Double tackle on Kenny. Richards putting pressure on and it is

:07:33. > :07:37.punched by Sarah Jones. Looking for the straight ball and she finds it.

:07:38. > :07:49.Flanagan is too good and she cuts it off. Richards can't keep it low.

:07:50. > :07:54.Promising signs from Wales. Reading some of the Australian plate and

:07:55. > :08:17.three intercepts. Just over five minutes gone. -- play.

:08:18. > :08:46.Drive through from Flannigan and throws her hands up in the air when

:08:47. > :09:12.she realised it was going to be cut off. That was too ambitious.

:09:13. > :09:38.Blyth has 288 matches for her country, the Australian skipper.

:09:39. > :09:58.Barnes and the Australian players hovering, knowing the Welsh players

:09:59. > :10:06.will sense their presence. Emily Smith. Now

:10:07. > :10:12.will sense their presence. Emily she cannot control it. It is a

:10:13. > :10:20.relentless she cannot control it. It is a

:10:21. > :10:44.midfielders. Jones has got it. Hydride. -- high drive. What can the

:10:45. > :11:00.Australians conjure up? Nothing right now. Barnes is dumped off the

:11:01. > :11:04.ball. One of the things when you are playing Australia, you cannot afford

:11:05. > :11:11.to relax rush to mark no, and when you win possession you have two

:11:12. > :11:17.value it and keep it. They like to put lots of numbers around the ball.

:11:18. > :11:23.If you can win a quick free kick, you can take two or three Australian

:11:24. > :11:29.players out of the game. It is a good start by Australia, which is

:11:30. > :11:34.what we expected. Flanagan has come over to the right side now. Kenny.

:11:35. > :11:40.Strong drive over to the right side now. Kenny.

:11:41. > :11:51.Strong down the left flank. Brooke Perris had a shot at goal. On the

:11:52. > :11:55.run, on-the-fly. I think she is busy in the couple of games she has

:11:56. > :11:57.played, but someone so young. She will be disappointed she

:11:58. > :12:03.played, but someone so young. She the ball on target. But she looks

:12:04. > :12:15.lively and looks like she will be created player. -- creative player.

:12:16. > :12:25.Kelli White gets another penalty for her country, Australia. They went

:12:26. > :12:49.for the referral. The question... Let's have a look

:12:50. > :13:13.here. The regional decision has been given for a foot. This will be the

:13:14. > :13:24.angle, I imagine. The question is, as the ball has come up, has it come

:13:25. > :13:41.off the lake? -- leg? The umpire, from South Africa. Still waiting. I

:13:42. > :13:50.have a decision for you. The ball has come off a Welsh stick onto her

:13:51. > :14:00.body, a penalty corner, Wales will lose their referral. As you heard,

:14:01. > :14:06.Wales have no ability to refer. The umpire relaying information to the

:14:07. > :14:13.Welsh defence. They will get some time to get the gear on. All of

:14:14. > :14:35.those yellow dresses lining up behind the D. Jodie Kenny. There is

:14:36. > :14:48.a break at the top of the circle. This time it is Wales who lose.

:14:49. > :15:09.Number seven, Sian French. Trying to get the momentum without breaking

:15:10. > :15:25.the line. Edwina Phone coming in. -- Road. This time they will get it.

:15:26. > :15:28.The question asked by the Australian captain, can Wales get their full

:15:29. > :15:43.complement of defensive players back. From South Africa, umpire

:15:44. > :15:52.Rostron says, no. Wales will play with three players and a goalkeeper

:15:53. > :15:56.in defence. It is goal number one. Amid the controversy, a little bit

:15:57. > :16:06.of disarray, it is Australia taking 12 minutes for them to do it. It is

:16:07. > :16:13.Kenny who gets the ball. A great little dragon, flick. Wilkinson will

:16:14. > :16:19.be disappointed, it looks like it has come off her stick. She has

:16:20. > :16:36.tried to play at it, like a cricket shot. Australia take the lead, 1-0,

:16:37. > :16:42.12 minutes gone and the first 35 in its spell. What he make of that?

:16:43. > :16:47.Allowing attacking players to replace defensive ones? Interesting,

:16:48. > :16:52.I would like to know the reason you are allowed to do that as an

:16:53. > :17:02.attacking team, something I have not seen very often, it does not seem

:17:03. > :17:09.fair and right. The fact that she was able to be replaced, rules are

:17:10. > :17:19.rules, and she knew them well. The Welsh coach looking a bit bemused up

:17:20. > :17:28.in the stands. Taylor, looking for Jones. Takes it on the body.

:17:29. > :17:36.Flanagan, on the right, on the move. A loose ball. Corner, danger. It is

:17:37. > :17:44.the reason that the penalty corner has been given. The Australians seem

:17:45. > :17:51.to be able to nip in front of the Welsh defenders. You think you are

:17:52. > :17:56.set and ready, then an Australian appears off your shoulder, getting a

:17:57. > :18:02.little touch. Very difficult for the goalkeeper to keep the bouncing ball

:18:03. > :18:06.on the floor. A lot of discipline needed by the Welsh defence, not to

:18:07. > :18:10.break the back line before the ball comes into the field of play.

:18:11. > :18:21.Flanagan gets the go, up into the air again. A shot on goal, goal

:18:22. > :18:29.number two. Georgina Parker adding to her tally for 2014. Her third of

:18:30. > :18:32.the competition, her first today. A good advantage by the umpire, she

:18:33. > :18:42.could have blown for the initial shot. A great save off one of the

:18:43. > :18:57.best drag flickers in the world. A simple tap in for Parker. 2-0. 20

:18:58. > :19:03.minutes to play in the first spell. A rather fragmented last ten

:19:04. > :19:27.minutes. The game dominated by the execution of the penalty corner.

:19:28. > :19:34.Players breaking, referrals... Xenna Hughes coming into the game for

:19:35. > :19:41.Wales, the daughter of Mark Hughes. Very quickly the Australians... I

:19:42. > :19:45.cannot imagine the coach will be impressed by Flanagan trying to

:19:46. > :19:50.clear the ball between her legs. You can tell they were not expecting her

:19:51. > :20:03.to do that. Those things can cost you in crucial matches, bad habits

:20:04. > :20:10.can creep in. A good opportunity all Barnes hovering at the top. A bit

:20:11. > :20:16.too high. Has to be no higher than 18 inches. , lower, preferably.

:20:17. > :20:33.Barnes. Hughes. She will not be happy to give that

:20:34. > :20:41.one away. Allowing White to overrun the ball. A corner they use a lot,

:20:42. > :21:03.Wilkinson will be disappointed, she slaps it along the floor for Emma

:21:04. > :21:21.Batton to flick it. The Welsh get the free hit. Wilkinson. Jones

:21:22. > :21:30.looking to Jordan, opts to go back instead. The captain has a bit of

:21:31. > :21:51.room to move, chased by the Australian captain. She will get the

:21:52. > :22:21.free hit. Eight bit there, she may have hit herself in the process.

:22:22. > :22:33.Wales cannot find any inroads to get the ball into the circle. Across the

:22:34. > :22:45.field. They will lose possession. A quick counterattack from Australia.

:22:46. > :23:06.Look at that, the commitment of the Australian skipper, Madonna live. --

:23:07. > :23:25.Blyth. Eastern. The most important statistic, the

:23:26. > :23:40.one on the top of the screen, it is two to Australia, Wales hanging on

:23:41. > :23:49.so far. Easton, a good strong tackle on her. Not very often you see

:23:50. > :24:03.advantage played out of defence, unless it helps the defensive team.

:24:04. > :24:14.Madonna Blyth. Blyth needs to take a few seconds. Once again, a very

:24:15. > :24:18.quick play. She has to get some end product on that, she is not under

:24:19. > :24:23.pressure on that shot. She could take an extra touch or so on the

:24:24. > :24:28.backhand. How many times have we seen them going over the bar. Wales

:24:29. > :24:41.giving the ball away, a pretty crucial area. She gets the free

:24:42. > :24:55.hit. The chance to relieve the pressure. That will be an Australian

:24:56. > :25:10.ball. Driving it goal words. Penalty corner. -- goalwards.

:25:11. > :25:20.It is a simple ball in, the Australian just behind the Welsh

:25:21. > :25:25.player, Wilkinson has just slipped, you take the choice, try to take the

:25:26. > :25:30.ball, or keep yourself up. You could see her disappointment once it was

:25:31. > :25:40.given. Two from seven, not a bad statistic. Better than Game one.

:25:41. > :25:56.Jodie Kenny and Anna Flanagan waiting. That was a real boomer. The

:25:57. > :26:01.penalty corners are on song. Jodie Kenny known for her drag flicking,

:26:02. > :26:08.really difficult when somebody has the ability to hit the ball and

:26:09. > :26:14.flick the ball. The goalkeeper will be disappointed it has not made her.

:26:15. > :26:34.3-0 is probably what Australia deserved. -- nutmegged. 30 minutes

:26:35. > :26:52.left in the first spell, two lots of 35. Wales not in a hurry to take

:26:53. > :26:54.this. Brooks beautiful angled pass, but under a lot of pressure from the

:26:55. > :27:15.Australians. Catching Flannigan's foot. Hughes.

:27:16. > :27:15.Up and over into the sunshine. In the shadow of the

:27:16. > :27:30.Up and over into the sunshine. In the shadow main stand. Local time is

:27:31. > :27:38.just after 2:30pm in the afternoon. Australian conditions when you look

:27:39. > :27:44.at the heat. Flanagan, has her captain to her left but drives

:27:45. > :28:05.forward, putting pressure on the Welsh defence.

:28:06. > :28:30.Nearly picked off and Male having to boot it out. Georgie Parker. Number

:28:31. > :28:32.19, for Australia. Wales having trouble getting the ball out of

:28:33. > :28:58.their defensive third. Still locked in their defensive

:28:59. > :29:04.third. Trouble now as they steamed towards the goal. There it is. You

:29:05. > :29:16.could almost sense that building up for Australia. Emily Smith. Very

:29:17. > :29:22.patient play. They had three or four players overloading the left side.

:29:23. > :29:31.Straight ball through, used her body well. Simple goal, really. Australia

:29:32. > :29:38.opened their account yesterday against Malaysia. That was a

:29:39. > :29:57.40-macro win. Wales looking disorganised.

:29:58. > :30:14.-- 4-0. Another penalty corner. Just Australian pressure and the strength

:30:15. > :30:19.in the tackle. Could have been stronger and lower in the tackle but

:30:20. > :30:22.the amounts of work she is having to cover defensively, just rolled the

:30:23. > :30:29.ball onto her foot. Another variation here. And goal number

:30:30. > :30:39.five. Australia seem able to score at will. Kenny gets her hat-trick.

:30:40. > :30:46.She can drag flick, she can hit. This seems to be the favoured side.

:30:47. > :30:56.It is highly up. It should either goalkeeper trying to make that

:30:57. > :31:00.same. As a player you should be trying to stop anything low on the

:31:01. > :31:06.ground but then anything how you should allow the goalkeeper to use

:31:07. > :31:14.the gloves. Bit of frustration creeping in. Time for Wales at the

:31:15. > :31:19.break to compose themselves. 5-0 Australia. You get the impression

:31:20. > :31:57.they are not operating at 100%. Sian French Bowden, up and over into

:31:58. > :32:05.the sun. Danger. That was a good steel by Jones. They are on the way.

:32:06. > :32:18.Danielle Jordan had the ball for Wales and went into the circle. She

:32:19. > :32:30.was in the right place. Nearly got a touch, but Rachael Lynch in golf

:32:31. > :32:41.Australia was very short. -- in goal for Australia. Good to see the

:32:42. > :32:54.commitment. Brilliant ball in. Two Welsh players with the opportunity

:32:55. > :33:01.to get a touch. Emma Batten, that it had trademark, sliding in. Fair play

:33:02. > :33:12.to Rachael Lynch keeping her eye on the ball. Flanagan to take the ball.

:33:13. > :33:44.Pushing up high. breathe, the Australians. They sense

:33:45. > :34:01.any chink in your defence. They are looking to hurt you. Hughes, not

:34:02. > :34:11.much opened up in front. But again, gives the ball away. The ball is

:34:12. > :34:19.live, Australia looking for goal number six. Might have been looking

:34:20. > :34:26.for a bit more than just a long corner. Australia on the hunt again.

:34:27. > :34:30.Reverse hits? No, just wide. They are running into the right spots,

:34:31. > :34:35.running off the ball. Yes they are. The build-up to late to this final

:34:36. > :34:41.opportunity by Kellie White. She will be disappointed she has not hit

:34:42. > :34:44.the target. Wales had the ball in defence, but the Australians are

:34:45. > :34:47.winning the ball high up the pitch. Getting numbers up there to support

:34:48. > :35:13.the baulk area. -- ball carrier. Wales are pushing up now. Wilkinson.

:35:14. > :35:18.Just the pressure isn't it, Brooks Peris. Off-loads to Kellie White.

:35:19. > :35:43.Drive into the circle again. Better pass from use, but wasn't

:35:44. > :36:09.ready for the one back. Brooks Peris has the chance again. Good save by

:36:10. > :36:25.Ria Male. Into the circle again. Not a lot of room to exit the ball.

:36:26. > :36:36.Madonna Blyth, gets through three players. Flanagan. Across the

:36:37. > :36:49.circle. Clumsy, trying to regain the ball.

:36:50. > :37:06.Budd. Need to get it out of here, Wales. When she looks up, all she

:37:07. > :37:15.can see is yellow. 12 passes at some magic being weaved by Georgie

:37:16. > :37:21.Parker. Brooks Perris. Anna Flanagan. Pouring on towards the

:37:22. > :37:29.Welsh defence. That is better from Hughes. Debt of commitment. -- bit

:37:30. > :38:14.of commitment. Anna Flanagan. Australia pouring on

:38:15. > :38:21.the pressure here. She will take a two-minute break that stick tackle.

:38:22. > :38:28.She will be there until half-time, Jodie Kenny. Here is another card

:38:29. > :38:35.coming. This time it looks like Georgie Parker is off for Wales.

:38:36. > :38:43.Alys Brooks has been given a green card as well. Both teams playing

:38:44. > :39:02.with ten players. Into the last minute of the first spell.

:39:03. > :39:18.Madonna Blyth, the captain for Australia. Good work from her. A

:39:19. > :39:28.corner to finish the half. Some determined defensive work needed by

:39:29. > :39:34.Wales. Already 5-0. Great skills on the baseline. It is so difficult

:39:35. > :39:40.a defender to try to defend against. Australia

:39:41. > :39:44.a defender to try to defend against. attack with pace. Wales are

:39:45. > :39:57.struggling to get numbers around the baulk area. Kenny is after. She has

:39:58. > :40:05.already scored a hat-trick. -- ball carrier. Madonna Blyth is waiting.

:40:06. > :40:17.Went to Flanagan. It is high and wide. It will remain the five goals.

:40:18. > :40:21.Flanagan running off, to get the liquid intake. Chance for Wales to

:40:22. > :40:27.compose themselves and hope to put together a better 35 minutes.

:40:28. > :40:34.Australia showing all their class and number two status in the world.

:40:35. > :40:43.Flanagan goes over to the coach. 5-0, to Australia.

:40:44. > :40:48.Unfortunately for Wales, that contest going through to form.

:40:49. > :40:53.Australia have won four out of the last five Commonwealth titles. They

:40:54. > :40:59.are the team to beat. We will be back at the National hockey centre.

:41:00. > :41:04.But let's take the time during the half-time break to reflect on what

:41:05. > :41:10.was a sensational opening day for Scotland, as far as the judo is

:41:11. > :41:12.concerned. 11 medals went to the home nations yesterday.

:41:13. > :41:16.concerned. 11 medals went to the home nations One man came out of

:41:17. > :41:21.retirement especially or his home Championships.

:41:22. > :41:30.retirement especially or his home gains in 12 years. John Buchanan,

:41:31. > :41:36.you won a bronze medal yesterday, as it's sunk in? It has been immense.

:41:37. > :41:38.When I woke up this morning, I had to pinch myself an as, did that

:41:39. > :41:41.really happen? The way everybody delivered yesterday, it was

:41:42. > :42:15.amazing. I think we have got the team off to a great start. Act I had

:42:16. > :42:20.an overwhelming sense of relief. As I walked on for the bronze medal,

:42:21. > :42:27.walking up the steps, they were on the front row. My wife, Claire, with

:42:28. > :42:33.her head in her hands. The kids were really into it by then, as was the

:42:34. > :42:43.rest of the crowd. Really nice, it would be difficult to top that. If I

:42:44. > :42:52.came back into judo, which I will not do again! Is Rio in your

:42:53. > :43:13.sights, I asked yesterday? You were in fact it, no way I will be back on

:43:14. > :43:18.that map. -- mat. No way, the chap you beat me, Ashley, he will be

:43:19. > :43:26.going to Rio, fast and sharp, training full-time. Difficult for a

:43:27. > :43:32.dad of three to come in after ten years, I gave him a good run for his

:43:33. > :43:42.money, but he is a frontrunner. It is keeping your weight, with a busy

:43:43. > :43:46.family life, a huge challenge? It is really tough, sacrificing. It does

:43:47. > :43:50.not make me the easiest person to live with, especially a couple of

:43:51. > :43:55.weeks out from a major championships. I have to take my hat

:43:56. > :44:01.off to Claire, for taking over, dealing with the kids. I am

:44:02. > :44:13.definitely finished now, which will make family life a lot easier. You

:44:14. > :44:16.have nine clubs along with Claire? We run nine clubs, along with my

:44:17. > :44:25.business partner, he used to be my coach. Between us we have 700 kids

:44:26. > :44:31.doing judo. I'm hoping after yesterday's performance and

:44:32. > :44:36.today's, all the guys fighting for medals, with Sarah Clark in the

:44:37. > :44:41.final, that will catapult the sport into the public eye again,

:44:42. > :44:52.especially for the girls. Judo is seen as a male pastime, we are

:44:53. > :44:58.hoping for more gold medals, and girl will flock to the clubs. A

:44:59. > :45:10.dream start for Team Scotland? And this weather? It has been immense,

:45:11. > :45:24.never known Glasgow to be like this. Look at us on the quayside. Good to

:45:25. > :45:35.see you. Well done for yesterday. Before we head off to the National

:45:36. > :45:40.hockey centre. Let's hear from the Englandwomen's camp. Kate

:45:41. > :45:46.Richardson-Walsh won almost everything there is to be won in

:45:47. > :45:48.hockey, she wants to go out on a high, and has been talking to Gabby

:45:49. > :45:54.hockey, she wants to go out on a high, and has been talking Logan in

:45:55. > :46:05.the run-up to the games. Hello, how are you. This is our training

:46:06. > :46:10.centre. Can you believe we are coming up to almost two years since

:46:11. > :46:16.London? The Commonwealth Games seemed an age away? I have to pinch

:46:17. > :46:24.myself, when I go into schools, and I have a little video clip of 2012,

:46:25. > :46:31.they must think, get over it! I cannot believe it, it has gone so

:46:32. > :46:36.quickly. I think you can tell straight away, that is not good. The

:46:37. > :46:41.pain must have been immediate, you must have known this was quite

:46:42. > :46:47.serious. I cannot remember specifically feeling pain, I got

:46:48. > :46:53.cramp, and having some shock. Straightaway my teeth were in the

:46:54. > :47:01.middle of my mouth. I had fractured my jaw all the way to the end. The

:47:02. > :47:06.surgeon came in and said he could fix it. I thought that would be the

:47:07. > :47:14.end of it. I thought I would play again in the Olympics. They said

:47:15. > :47:20.they could get me back. Whatever he said, I was living with hope.

:47:21. > :47:23.Anybody would have done the same thing, you have trained that hard,

:47:24. > :47:29.you have the dream of winning the gold medal at a home games, I was

:47:30. > :47:35.going to take any option to get onto the pitch. As the tournament

:47:36. > :47:39.developed, and he came back, what was that like? Knowing an Olympic

:47:40. > :47:44.medal could be yours? Interesting, we had lost the semifinal against

:47:45. > :47:51.Argentina, 24 hours previously to the bronze medal game. We had 24

:47:52. > :48:00.hours of darkness. A lot of tears, soul-searching. We had discussed it.

:48:01. > :48:04.We knew how to deal with it. By the time it got to the bronze medal

:48:05. > :48:13.game, the feeling among the team, I will never forget it. Just knowing,

:48:14. > :48:22.we were going to do this. Absolutely brilliant. What a comeback this has

:48:23. > :48:29.been. Great Britain have won the bronze medals. If 2012 was an

:48:30. > :48:35.emotional roller-coaster, professionally a very high year,

:48:36. > :48:40.2013 was a very big year for you? It was a big year on and off the pitch.

:48:41. > :48:51.I got engaged and married. That was amazing. There are so few openly gay

:48:52. > :48:59.sports across any sport. -- openly gay sportspeople. Your wife is in

:49:00. > :49:04.the same team, I cannot think of that in any sport, you are unique?

:49:05. > :49:08.Yes, it is funny, you don't see it from the outside perspective. We

:49:09. > :49:15.were a couple, we love each other, we happen to play in the same team.

:49:16. > :49:17.Our team-mates, friends, family have been so supportive, we don't see

:49:18. > :49:31.anything strange or different. Certainly I know this is my last

:49:32. > :49:39.season playing in the international team. He last fitness test, the last

:49:40. > :49:44.tournament, the last one. -- it is the last fitness test. That is for

:49:45. > :49:53.definite? If you come away with the gold medal that has eluded you? It

:49:54. > :49:59.is not that long to Rio? My body feels quite good, funnily enough, it

:50:00. > :50:05.is everything else. I have spoken to a lot of people who have retired,

:50:06. > :50:09.they say, you just know. It is time for me, time for the squad, there

:50:10. > :50:17.are a lot of other things I want to do. The next chapter is ready.

:50:18. > :50:28.As you can see, they have already restarted the second half at the

:50:29. > :50:33.National Hockey Centre. Let's rejoin our commentators.

:50:34. > :50:43.Taking over the position. Interesting, both sets of players

:50:44. > :50:51.taking longer to come out onto the turf, given the temperatures. It is

:50:52. > :51:00.into the high 30s. A very hot day in Glasgow. The temperature sitting at

:51:01. > :51:04.around 24, but hotter in the middle. What can they do with this

:51:05. > :51:15.possession? It has been gold for them. Wilkinson has the ball for

:51:16. > :51:27.Wales. Keen to put some dominance into the, Wales. It has been a bit

:51:28. > :51:32.tentative. Across to Westwood. She has the look up, what is on offer?

:51:33. > :51:37.They will keep possession, good option. Brooks coming back on for

:51:38. > :51:46.Wales. Kenny is back on, 11 aside. option. Brooks coming back on for

:51:47. > :52:17.Wales. Kenny That lifted ball given Jake Jade Taylor won to chase.

:52:18. > :52:27.Australia on the move. Westwood. Forcing Wales to go back. The screen

:52:28. > :52:41.is set up by her team-mates, losing possession. Here they go, the

:52:42. > :52:49.Australians. Madonna Blyth, a quick look across the park. It is still in

:52:50. > :52:55.play, a marvel, Australia keep the ball, it never goes out. Penalty

:52:56. > :53:06.corner. Good result. Patient defending.

:53:07. > :53:20.A stronger start by Wales in the opening minutes of this half.

:53:21. > :53:36.The Wales coach has been in the job since 2002. Westwood. Can she keep

:53:37. > :53:43.it? More Wales players surrounding the ball. When they are out letting

:53:44. > :53:51.from the back, not just going with a back four, trying to push Wilkinson

:53:52. > :53:59.through. You have to give them credit. They are trying different

:54:00. > :54:02.things, and trying to implement the coach's tactics. They are doing

:54:03. > :54:08.their best, which is all you can really ask for. Absolutely right.

:54:09. > :54:13.They did magnificently well against England, keeping them to two. They

:54:14. > :54:18.had to work hard, has that game taking something out of the legs of

:54:19. > :54:24.the Welsh team? Not to take anything away from Australia, they have been

:54:25. > :54:34.top drawer. Just intercepted to easily. A chance. A sixth goal for

:54:35. > :54:47.Australia, you cannot leave them alone. Anything she may have stolen

:54:48. > :54:55.it, the ball was going in, you can tell from her reaction, she has

:54:56. > :55:01.tapped in Emily Smith's ball. She has grabbed a goal off her mate. It

:55:02. > :55:17.is something you do in practice, instinctive. She is on the

:55:18. > :55:22.scoresheet. Brooke Peris. They all count. Being a defender, I just look

:55:23. > :55:26.for a team result, but I'm sure the strikers will disagree. They are

:55:27. > :55:30.testing the Welsh resolve, this Australian side. Structure,

:55:31. > :55:56.positioning, running off the ball. The wave of gold again. Pushing

:55:57. > :56:18.towards the Welsh keeper. Going into the circle, Wales get to relieve the

:56:19. > :56:24.pressure. Even the 16s are not easy exits. They have determined running,

:56:25. > :56:33.Australia, causing a turnover straightaway. Ball into the circle.

:56:34. > :56:36.Madonna Blyth, can she get the shot away? Not quite, but the ball will

:56:37. > :57:08.be back in there. ball. Australia basically press with

:57:09. > :57:17.seven players. ball. Australia basically When you

:57:18. > :57:50.look up as a defender, it is very intimidating?

:57:51. > :58:02.When you think you have got a bit of momentum, it is not good.

:58:03. > :58:13.Taylor outside, she opts not to use it, but now she puts the little pass

:58:14. > :58:20.on and catches Taylor's feet. It won't be an Australian ball, Jones

:58:21. > :58:26.finds Tucker, dispossessed. This time the fast legs of Eastham. She

:58:27. > :58:43.is busy, Eastham, isn't she? A bit of indecision that time

:58:44. > :58:45.between the Australians. They have got possession back, a nice little

:58:46. > :59:08.soft pass. There is a lot of unheralded work

:59:09. > :59:12.for Australia, McMahon. Yeah, she does, and being so young, if you

:59:13. > :59:18.know she's going to have a big future ahead of her, taking over the

:59:19. > :59:20.central midfield position that Eastham and Blyth are playing. Into

:59:21. > :59:37.the circle now again. McMahon gets the ball back, but

:59:38. > :59:44.always a couple of Australians surrounding the ball. So Eastham

:59:45. > :59:50.now. She finds Kenny. Tribune into the circle, a free shot at goal,

:59:51. > :59:53.what a super finish. That is Georgina Parker, she is on the

:59:54. > :00:01.scoresheet again today, as she was yesterday, with two goals. Jodie

:00:02. > :00:10.Kenny hitting the ball, a fantastic lead, first touch, putting the ball

:00:11. > :00:16.exactly where she wanted to go. Male stood no chance, 7-0 Australia. That

:00:17. > :00:43.is one of the best we have seen today from Georgie Parker.

:00:44. > :00:53.Bone, across to Flannigan, out on the left.

:00:54. > :00:59.Well read this time, gets past two, she will get the free hit, good work

:01:00. > :01:19.from the captain. Lee Wilkinson. -- Lee. Squeezing the

:01:20. > :01:31.Welsh defenders, reducing the options.

:01:32. > :01:47.A subtle paint from Blyth. -- feint. You will not get many determined

:01:48. > :01:54.players than Madonna Blyth. Nanscawen. Flannigan cannot take it

:01:55. > :02:01.cleanly. Here she is, got the ball, into the circle now, off-loads, but

:02:02. > :02:13.straight back into Bone. Reading it so well, and they? A couple of

:02:14. > :02:15.options always. Peris. Switching the point of attack from left to right,

:02:16. > :02:57.back to Eastham in the middle. She will leave it for Hughes to take

:02:58. > :03:06.out on the left flank. Lifting it up and over, good bit of work. Keeping

:03:07. > :03:12.in that pocket, but the execution of the next pass is not flash. But you

:03:13. > :03:17.can see what they are trying to do. That is the thing, they are trying

:03:18. > :03:20.to play hockey, and some things are not quite coming off for them, but

:03:21. > :03:23.it is a positive thing that they want to keep passing the ball to

:03:24. > :03:29.each other and running their patterns of play. But this is a

:03:30. > :03:33.dominant Australian performance. Good screen that time by Wales, and

:03:34. > :03:36.they have picked up the ball, but not for long. Parker has it, looking

:03:37. > :03:41.for support on the right not for long. Parker has it, looking

:03:42. > :03:56.get it on the back of her foot. So I guess, when you look at the

:03:57. > :04:01.Australian side, as Wales try to exit that ball, a couple of new

:04:02. > :04:11.famous Australian women are key players, Jayde Taylor, Brooke

:04:12. > :04:19.Perris. -- Peris. Here comes Wales, into the attacking third.

:04:20. > :04:31.She cannot get past the wall of Australian players, and it is only

:04:32. > :04:39.loose for a brief second as White slams the ball down. That is a magic

:04:40. > :04:45.finish, what a goal! What a team goal from Australia, and it is

:04:46. > :04:49.Georgina Parker who finishes off. Brilliant bit of play, initially I

:04:50. > :04:53.thought White hat not got hold of the ball in the middle of the field,

:04:54. > :04:57.but a fantastic reverse stick pass, very soft hands to deflect the ball

:04:58. > :05:06.exactly where Parker wanted it to go, three goals for her in the game.

:05:07. > :05:10.There she is, Georgina Parker, and the salutation at the end of that

:05:11. > :05:14.was for the build-up, the team goal, not so much for the self, and that

:05:15. > :05:20.is what they practice, they spend hours putting that together. That

:05:21. > :05:27.has come together superbly well. Any young person watching, male or

:05:28. > :05:33.female, can take a lot from that. That is real gold, isn't it? It is,

:05:34. > :05:37.and it is the willingness of the other forwards to run out, to

:05:38. > :05:41.and it is the willingness of the up the passing lane straight down

:05:42. > :05:51.the middle of the pitch for them. Passes always going to their

:05:52. > :05:52.team-mate's stakes. -- sticks. The offside was not successful, but she

:05:53. > :06:37.was in the right place. Bone, it comes off her legs, play on

:06:38. > :06:42.is the call. Blyth will have to bring the ball back.

:06:43. > :06:57.Such high standards, a re-occurrence in this match when the ball did not

:06:58. > :07:07.go to an Australian stick. -- a rare occurrence.

:07:08. > :07:19.Oh, the tackle from McMahon, does it well, re-gains possession for her

:07:20. > :07:25.side, that wave again. A tidal wave, you would call it. Good work by

:07:26. > :07:35.Jones for Wales, Jordan popped that flank. Good, fast play, this is

:07:36. > :07:46.better from Wales. The new player into the Welsh white, Sophie

:07:47. > :07:54.Clayton, driving into the circle. -- the Welsh squad. Better from Wales.

:07:55. > :08:00.No-one at the top. Conscious of the fast break out, and here it comes.

:08:01. > :08:06.Melanie Smith, will she get the ball back? It will be Peris who latches

:08:07. > :08:11.onto this, free space into the circle, can she get the shot away?

:08:12. > :08:20.Oh, it is in, it is goal number nine! It is the angle, across, and

:08:21. > :08:26.Nanscawen goes over to thank the parser, Peris. Reverse stick into

:08:27. > :08:31.the circle. Fantastic play by Peris, I thought she was going to take the

:08:32. > :08:35.shot on the backhand, rolled back onto a strong side, squeezes the

:08:36. > :08:40.ball into the turf to get it over the Welsh defender's stick.

:08:41. > :08:46.Nanscawen was there to tap it in, basically. They are stiffing them

:08:47. > :08:48.out, Australia, Nanscawen is one of the hardest workers in the

:08:49. > :08:55.international game, and she is rewarded for that goal.

:08:56. > :08:58.16 minutes left in the match, and I am sure Australia have not finished

:08:59. > :09:05.with that scoreline. Jason Kenny -- Jodie Kenny starting

:09:06. > :09:32.the scoring. Perfect, accurate pass. McMahon has

:09:33. > :09:41.got Flanagan waiting. I am sure she would love to get on the

:09:42. > :09:49.scoresheet, Anna Flanagan. It is Blyth, the captain. She gets the

:09:50. > :09:51.boot in, Male, the goalkeeper has a real verbal goal at her players, and

:09:52. > :10:03.it is not over yet. Unselfish play, and this is the one

:10:04. > :10:08.side of Madonna Blyth's game that she really needs to look at, she

:10:09. > :10:12.does so much hard work around the field. By the time she finds herself

:10:13. > :10:18.in the circle, she has probably run out of steam a bit. But you know,

:10:19. > :10:23.Male has made a good save, and from Blyth's perspective, she put the

:10:24. > :10:31.ball on target. Locked in that defensive third, Wales. It is all

:10:32. > :10:37.good practice. It is a team ranked 32nd in the world against the team

:10:38. > :10:38.ranked number two. How else do you get to be better, unless you played

:10:39. > :11:10.the best? Be tall, lanky frame of Jodie Kenny

:11:11. > :11:16.across to McMahon. Strong, not quite as accurate. Adam Cummins will be

:11:17. > :11:29.very happy with his team in this match so far.

:11:30. > :11:45.McMahon, there she goes. Just cannot quite link up. It doesn't matter,

:11:46. > :11:47.does it? 13 minutes left in the match and they are still operating

:11:48. > :12:26.on high octane gas. And she is asking for the stroke.

:12:27. > :12:41.No, she is not. She instinctively put your hand up. And they are

:12:42. > :12:45.continuing. Into the circle, and that hedge your own player on the

:12:46. > :12:51.back of the legs. Wales, through the midfield. Richards was there, she

:12:52. > :13:02.has got the ball. Phoebe Richards. midfield. Richards was there, she

:13:03. > :13:15.There is too much pace. There is too much precision. And it pass.

:13:16. > :13:31.Wilkinson, she did not want to lose that. This is better from Wales.

:13:32. > :14:06.Richards. She was pushing too far ahead. Flannigan. She is not on the

:14:07. > :14:13.scoresheet. Casey Eastham. Three passes and then that midfield

:14:14. > :14:40.dribble. She still finds the player in the circle. She gets the corner.

:14:41. > :14:47.20 seconds for the defenders to get their gear on and Casey Eastham to

:14:48. > :14:54.inject the ball from the baseline. She has got Jodie Kenny at the top.

:14:55. > :14:59.And Karri McMahon. The other flanker is on the bench at the moment. Will

:15:00. > :15:16.it be the lay-off or the direct shot? And she makes two saves. The

:15:17. > :15:25.long corner. Ria Male, for Wales. Any saved is a good save against a

:15:26. > :15:30.world-class unit. I do not know if she quite got a hold of that as much

:15:31. > :15:34.as she wanted to. But that was a very good save by Ria Male in goal.

:15:35. > :16:00.The ball is out of trouble for Wales. Xenna Hughes. Jordan. She

:16:01. > :16:10.off-loads. This is better from Wales. Just infringing on a five

:16:11. > :16:15.metre zone. For the person bringing down the aerial ball. Taylor, drives

:16:16. > :16:39.that at the goal. Anna Flanagan is back on. And

:16:40. > :16:48.Georgia Nanscawen. White is hovering.

:16:49. > :17:00.Again, very quick to turn on the spot, Brooke Peris. If they have a

:17:01. > :17:06.training session, this will be something she will be keen to work

:17:07. > :17:13.on. They are about perfection, the Australians. There is only one

:17:14. > :17:18.player who did not make it here. And that is Emily Hewitt. Downfield,

:17:19. > :17:49.accurate, hard and fast. The Wales coach, Amanda Partington.

:17:50. > :17:51.Always looking, scanning to see where she is going to put the ball

:17:52. > :18:00.next. There is always the second player,

:18:01. > :18:30.and third. That was good from Emma Batten but

:18:31. > :18:36.she had no support. That is a clever pass from Australia. Again, they

:18:37. > :18:46.have players in position. Strong clearance. She catches the stick in

:18:47. > :18:57.her rib cage. We will see what happened. She has been head on her

:18:58. > :19:11.stick -- on her chin, underneath her jawline. -- hit on her. They have

:19:12. > :19:24.covered so much, the Australians, they do not stay down for long. That

:19:25. > :19:35.was an unforced error, you do not see much of that. And the difference

:19:36. > :19:38.in speed, they are trying to execute these passes, one, two, three.

:19:39. > :19:58.Wales, Xenna Hughes. Quick hands, the top of the D. She

:19:59. > :20:05.has the shot at goal. Emily Smith, she wanted more. Better accuracy.

:20:06. > :20:08.She did not even give a chance to her team-mate to get her stick onto

:20:09. > :20:25.it. They have toiled hard. Jo Westwood,

:20:26. > :20:51.Leah Wilkinson. Can she get the ball across? Can she

:20:52. > :21:11.have a shot yourself? That was worth a go. -- herself. James Taylor was

:21:12. > :21:19.in there. Madonna Blyth was signalling that she wanted a

:21:20. > :21:27.referral, anyway. --. They are both on the field, Anna Flanagan and

:21:28. > :21:48.Jodie Kenny. Three out of those five goals. In the first half.

:21:49. > :21:53.That is Anna Flanagan, at the goal, that was taken on the body. That

:21:54. > :22:08.courageous running! I think they were going for the

:22:09. > :22:12.option because the ball was further back and Anna Flanagan was probably

:22:13. > :22:21.looking for the deflection. That was great running down the barrel to

:22:22. > :22:29.stop the ball getting there. Soft hands, but she does not find Emily

:22:30. > :22:39.Smith. Wales have quickened up their exit ball.

:22:40. > :22:52.Georgia Nanscawen. Fast running. Getting into position for the second

:22:53. > :22:55.pass. Still operating in Top Gear, this is high octane hockey from the

:22:56. > :23:06.Australian side. Not really wishing one bit. -- billing wishing. The

:23:07. > :23:16.last time the sides met was in 2012 in Dublin. Australia were the

:23:17. > :23:20.winners, 4-0. They started their campaign under Adam Commens and

:23:21. > :23:26.every tournament they have been in in the last 18 months, they have

:23:27. > :23:36.been getting a medal. That is a new beginning for this hockey side.

:23:37. > :24:21.She will take the deflection and take up just outside. -- take that.

:24:22. > :24:37.She drives her own player, just a little bit of self-preservation.

:24:38. > :25:00.On the move. Elie Barnes and Leah Wilkinson. That just catches her

:25:01. > :25:09.foot. The umpire said on the line. We are near the end of the match.

:25:10. > :25:23.Can they get anything out of this? This is better for Wales. Asking for

:25:24. > :25:30.the penalty. The last ten seconds. The corner. They will get a chance.

:25:31. > :25:41.They will get to play this. No, they won't. So, Australia are 9-0 up.

:25:42. > :26:18.They have the corner. Team referral. I can hear you. They say they

:26:19. > :26:26.already had a shot at goal. But for me, there was no shot at goal. Can

:26:27. > :26:30.you have a look for me. I am going to save they had an advantage and a

:26:31. > :26:38.shot at goal. I will have a look. Thank you. What does it say about

:26:39. > :26:43.Australia, they could have defended and it would be quite good to be in

:26:44. > :26:48.that pressure, but they have read that well. The goalkeeper has not

:26:49. > :26:57.had anything to do today, Rachael Lynch. She has been looking.

:26:58. > :27:02.Clearly, there was the foot writer. You can see the excitement from the

:27:03. > :27:06.Welsh players. She does not have that shot at goal, she misses that.

:27:07. > :27:08.The hooter went off before she gave that corner. There was that

:27:09. > :27:27.2-pronged attack. I have a decision for you, OK? There

:27:28. > :27:35.was no advantage, you can award the penalty corner and they will lose

:27:36. > :27:38.the advantage. So a worthwhile exercise may be for Australia, the

:27:39. > :27:46.upshot is that they will defend this. I guess it is all in the

:27:47. > :28:06.interpretation, and that is what has been deemed.

:28:07. > :28:19.Wales, have they got it, one last opportunity? Lynch makes a great

:28:20. > :28:26.save, but it is a wonderful display of hockey skill, and look at that

:28:27. > :28:34.scoreline, it tells you so much. Jodie Kenny, a hat trick in the

:28:35. > :28:37.game, Georgie Parker, the same score as against Malaysian yesterday. So

:28:38. > :28:43.impressive, and they have offered such different skills. They keep the

:28:44. > :28:50.opposition guessing, the subtleties of the ball. What do you say about a

:28:51. > :28:54.team like this? Just stunning hockey. It is stunning, and it is

:28:55. > :28:59.their basic skill level which is so much better than any other team I

:29:00. > :29:03.have seen so far. A couple of teams we have not seen yet, but it does

:29:04. > :29:09.not matter whether ball is, they are still able to get a pass away,

:29:10. > :29:15.fantastic performance by Australia. Here we are, 9-0, Australia over

:29:16. > :29:20.Wales. So Australia's women in formidable

:29:21. > :29:25.form, winning 9-0 against Wales, and they are clearly the favourites for

:29:26. > :29:29.the title. They have won it three times out of the last four occasions

:29:30. > :29:36.as far as the Commonwealth Games goes, so there's for the taking. For

:29:37. > :29:39.Wales, though, two defeats in two, and as was the prediction before the

:29:40. > :29:43.tournament had started, the lowest ranked side clearly well and truly

:29:44. > :29:47.up against it in terms of qualifying from the group stages. We have moved

:29:48. > :29:51.away from the safety of the studio by the big stage here at the

:29:52. > :29:56.quayside in the middle of Glasgow, and we are now on the bridge, a

:29:57. > :30:05.fantastic backdrop. If you have not had a look at it, that is the

:30:06. > :30:08.Allianz Arena of Glasgow, it kind of changes, the one in the middle,

:30:09. > :30:13.which changes colour depending on what kind of concert or sporting

:30:14. > :30:16.occasion is taking place. That is soon to host the boxing finals, as

:30:17. > :30:24.well as the netball finals. Next to it, affectionately known as the

:30:25. > :30:29.Armadillo, officially the Clyde Auditorium. Two lifting competitions

:30:30. > :30:33.for the 2014 Commonwealth Games, powerlifting and weightlifting. And

:30:34. > :30:38.I suppose the one structure that overlooks everything here is the

:30:39. > :30:44.crane, there it is, hugely impressive, actually, it is my first

:30:45. > :30:49.time in Glasgow for at least 20 years. It is one of only 11

:30:50. > :30:52.cantilever cranes in the world. In fact, there are four of them

:30:53. > :31:02.alongside the River Clyde in itself. And then the bridge, just behind

:31:03. > :31:07.us. And it is a fantastic day two for Glasgow 2014. These are the

:31:08. > :31:12.pictures from above Kelvingrove, the people's Palace actually, Vasco once

:31:13. > :31:19.again bathed in sunshine. It is a fantastic occasion. -- Glasgow. This

:31:20. > :31:24.is Glasgow Green, the biggest public park in the city of Glasgow.

:31:25. > :31:27.Kelvingrove for the bowling is just there, you can see the university

:31:28. > :31:32.building, the gallery and art museum, a fantastic backdrop for the

:31:33. > :31:37.lawn bowls. If anybody is on the way up, it is picturesque, to say the

:31:38. > :31:41.least. Time now to catch the latest news updates, all you need to know

:31:42. > :31:47.in 60 seconds. And it's about time

:31:48. > :31:59.that I did something about that. Hi, we'll get you back to the Games

:32:00. > :32:25.after the headlines in 60 seconds. Three-year-old Mikaeel Kular's

:32:26. > :32:27.badly beaten body was found in woodland

:32:28. > :32:29.near Kirkcaldy in January. Today his mother Rosdeep

:32:30. > :32:30.admitted killing him. His disappearance prompted

:32:31. > :32:32.a huge police search. You might not feel any richer,

:32:33. > :32:34.but the economy's booming. before the global financial crash

:32:35. > :32:38.six years ago. David Cameron's called the trend

:32:39. > :32:40.a milestone. Welsh hurdler Rhys Williams

:32:41. > :32:43.is out of the Commonwealth Games He says he's not knowingly taken

:32:44. > :32:47.a banned substance. Williams was co-captain

:32:48. > :32:49.of Team Wales. Tulisa's been convicted

:32:50. > :32:52.of assaulting a celebrity blogger. She hit Savvas Morgan at the

:32:53. > :32:55.V Festival in Essex last year. And a bit of dancing

:32:56. > :32:59.and riding a bike. Yes, even the royals

:33:00. > :33:01.filmed themselves for an exhibition

:33:02. > :33:07.about the royal childhood. You're up to date,

:33:08. > :33:18.so back to Manish in Glasgow. Yeah, I am looking for

:33:19. > :33:20.a Prince Charming. I don't think I'm ugly, but I don't

:33:21. > :33:24.think I'm, like, really pretty. I say, "You've got something

:33:25. > :34:24.on your bum." "Really?" And I say, Hello there, welcome back to BBC

:34:25. > :34:30.Three's live coverage of Glasgow 2014, and fabulous day here in

:34:31. > :34:34.Scotland. The sun is shining once again, there are reports the weather

:34:35. > :34:38.will turn in the next 24 hours, but the people are out, whether they are

:34:39. > :34:42.Scottish, tourists, or indeed the athletes mingling around in the city

:34:43. > :34:46.centre. As far as they are concerned, they are having a

:34:47. > :34:50.terrific time. We have been reporting from the drama of London

:34:51. > :34:54.2012, the boxing event back in the excel Arena. I have been looking

:34:55. > :34:56.2012, the boxing event back in the forward to seeing more boxing at the

:34:57. > :35:10.Commonwealth Games, and it is all happening at the FCC -- SECC

:35:11. > :35:20.Precinct, which is hosting six ports, including the boxing. Our

:35:21. > :35:22.next bout is Lewis Benson of Scotland, and ringside as Richie

:35:23. > :35:36.Woodhall and Ron McIntosh. So the opening bell sounds in the 69

:35:37. > :35:40.kilograms welterweight contest. It is between Scotland's first

:35:41. > :35:42.representative in the boxing tournament so far, the first

:35:43. > :35:49.Scottish boxer in the ring, wearing blue, fighting out of the orthodox

:35:50. > :35:55.stance, Lewis Benson, 22 years of age, and his opponent wearing red,

:35:56. > :36:05.25 years of age from Christchurch, New Zealand, Bowyn Morgan, making

:36:06. > :36:12.his first appearance at a Commonwealth Games. He went on to

:36:13. > :36:17.win the first of four consecutive national titles. All at 69

:36:18. > :36:21.kilograms, the most dominant boxer in his nation, here he is making his

:36:22. > :36:29.Commonwealth Games debut against a home fighter who got hit with a good

:36:30. > :36:33.left hand. Benson has got the height and reach, and he has got to use

:36:34. > :36:38.that to good effect, jab, right hand as his opponent comes forward. His

:36:39. > :36:43.opponent is more compact. It is important that boxes in the centre

:36:44. > :36:48.of the ring, rather than back onto the ropes. If he can do that, keep

:36:49. > :36:52.the punches nice and straight and long, he shouldn't have too much

:36:53. > :36:57.trouble against this Kiwi boxer, who is easier to hit going forward. But

:36:58. > :37:01.Benson has got to stick to long-range tactics here. Four

:37:02. > :37:07.successive national titles for Bowyn Morgan. Lewis Benson almost

:37:08. > :37:13.replicated that, a looping right hand over the top there. He has

:37:14. > :37:20.taken national titles for the past three years, Benson, only one of

:37:21. > :37:24.them at 69 kilograms. His first two, in 2012 and 2013, came in the 64

:37:25. > :37:28.kilograms light-welterweight division. Recently moved up to 69,

:37:29. > :37:34.where he contested the World Championships in Baku in Kaz extant

:37:35. > :37:43.last year. He looks comfortable at the wait here. -- Kazakhstan. That

:37:44. > :37:49.is a punch that he can target, but the jab is the main weapon for

:37:50. > :37:53.Benson. He has to move to the side, rather than being pushed back. Stay

:37:54. > :37:54.in the centre of the ring, controlled the ring space at little

:37:55. > :38:06.bit better. Inside the final 30 seconds of this

:38:07. > :38:10.opening round. There you see the contrast in physics up close, the

:38:11. > :38:21.tall, lean, rangy physique of Lewis Benson. -- physiques. Far more

:38:22. > :38:25.compact and muscular figure of Bowyn Morgan, who was trying to use that

:38:26. > :38:31.muscularity to walk away at close quarters. There is the bell. That

:38:32. > :38:34.concludes this opening round, what a round of applause Lewis Benson is

:38:35. > :38:42.receiving as he makes his way back to the corner.

:38:43. > :38:49.Not too bad a first round from Benson, you can see he is a little

:38:50. > :38:52.bit nervous, but he has got the tools to win this contest. Back in a

:38:53. > :38:57.straight line, a bad position to be in, but he got better as the round

:38:58. > :39:03.went on, starting to box at range, punching long. Nice little left

:39:04. > :39:06.lock, but then he is caught. A better one -to coming back, he has

:39:07. > :39:15.to hit and move, maintain the gap, concentrate on boxing at distance

:39:16. > :39:20.without panicking. -- 1-2. All three of the judges have favoured the

:39:21. > :39:27.long-range boxing of Benson over the aggressive style of Morgan, he has

:39:28. > :39:32.taken it unanimously. That is encouraging, because the judges are

:39:33. > :39:36.appreciating that style of boxing. Into the second round we go, then,

:39:37. > :39:43.Bowyn Morgan will be aware that he is trailing. He has come out

:39:44. > :39:47.charging hard and fast to begin this second session. It is all about

:39:48. > :39:52.getting the timing right here. This fella is just going to keep coming

:39:53. > :39:56.forward, Morgan. He knows he is behind, he is marauding forward, but

:39:57. > :40:01.he is quite easy to heed if you get your timing right. It is all about

:40:02. > :40:05.timing, good foot movement. Demonstrating its beautifully right

:40:06. > :40:12.now, the art of hitting without being hit, Lewis Benson. Lovely. He

:40:13. > :40:18.said on social media that his face is too pretty to take punches, and

:40:19. > :40:23.he is defending it right... Oh, what a shot! That puts Benson in trouble.

:40:24. > :40:27.He says he is OK, but that is the danger when fighting a marauding

:40:28. > :40:33.aggressor like Bowyn Morgan. He can get in and wreak havoc. If you take

:40:34. > :40:37.shots like that, that is how your face becomes ugly. He has got to

:40:38. > :40:42.move, and still low, back onto the ropes. Get off the ropes, stay in

:40:43. > :40:48.the ring space, box at distance. Moved to the side! Fuchs really

:40:49. > :40:56.thundering in from Bowyn Morgan, who as closed the distance. -- hooks.

:40:57. > :41:01.Benson tux up his right hand. Just holding on to allow his head to

:41:02. > :41:09.clear, Lewis Benson. Still half of the round to negotiate, just under

:41:10. > :41:13.one minute 30 to go. A good stiff right hand from Benson, not too bad,

:41:14. > :41:19.but he has to be more accurate with his jab.

:41:20. > :41:28.Trying to encourage the first Scottish man in the rain in these

:41:29. > :41:32.Commonwealth Games. -- the ring. Good right hand over the top from

:41:33. > :41:41.Morgan once again, and that reverberated all the way around this

:41:42. > :41:43.arena and brought an audible ooh from the crowd, and the late

:41:44. > :41:47.movement of Benson is a little unsteady with just a minute to go in

:41:48. > :41:52.this round, and Morgan is encouraged, waging war, targeting

:41:53. > :41:56.the head and body of Benson. He has not got the strength to keep his man

:41:57. > :42:00.at bay, and the body shots are taking their toll, they have slowed

:42:01. > :42:13.him down. Movement is so important from Benson. Lewis Benson started

:42:14. > :42:21.effectively, petting and moving. He is back at long range. Ten seconds.

:42:22. > :42:30.This one-minute interval will be welcome respite for Lewis Benson to

:42:31. > :42:34.get his thoughts back together. He concludes that second round, he

:42:35. > :42:46.thinks he has done enough to take it. And this was how he didn't.

:42:47. > :42:53.Morgan, coming forward. -- that -- did it. He messes that with his

:42:54. > :43:01.right hand, and the left court Benson. When he is boxing at Grange,

:43:02. > :43:10.keeping straight, he knocks is much better. He is allowing his man too

:43:11. > :43:23.much on the inside. -- he knocks is much better. -- boxes. So, we have

:43:24. > :43:29.got parity after two rounds. One round each. Morgan is going to come

:43:30. > :43:35.in here like a steam train for this last round. The third and final

:43:36. > :43:40.round is underway. And this contest is for grabs. What style will

:43:41. > :43:46.prevail? The long-range sharpshooting of Lewis Benson or the

:43:47. > :43:53.front hooded aggression of Bowyn Morgan? Contrasting styles. This is

:43:54. > :44:03.where he got himself into trouble previously, touching the ropes.

:44:04. > :44:08.Lewis Benson has two very his movement, he must switch direction

:44:09. > :44:15.but stay in the centre and keep those punches straight. He gets

:44:16. > :44:21.caught out again. That low, left hand of Lewis Benson. And the

:44:22. > :44:32.punches from Bowyn Morgan are producing inside that reverberates

:44:33. > :44:36.around the ring. He is being put to the test during this third round.

:44:37. > :44:44.Just over one minute gone. Bowyn Morgan, unloading with heavy

:44:45. > :44:50.leather. Lewis Benson is struggling to establish his rhythm. This is

:44:51. > :44:56.better from Lewis Benson, straight shots, get the timing right, do not

:44:57. > :45:02.panic. That is a dangerous position. He has to move. We're just past the

:45:03. > :45:09.halfway stage of this third and final round. Lewis Benson trying to

:45:10. > :45:17.get back to long range. He dipped his knees slightly and went just

:45:18. > :45:30.above the belt line. Morgan, in possible to the chair. He is

:45:31. > :45:36.comparatively short armed. -- to deter. Good left hand again. His

:45:37. > :45:47.punching is having a significant effect. Morgan is less effective, he

:45:48. > :45:56.has to give those punches long and straight. -- keep those. This

:45:57. > :46:04.contest is still up for grabs. They break free of that clench. Morgan

:46:05. > :46:09.continuing to come forward. Inside the final 20 seconds. The

:46:10. > :46:14.continuing to come forward. Inside could well be determined in these

:46:15. > :46:23.closing moments. And again. He has gathered some momentum. He must keep

:46:24. > :46:30.his guard up. The final ten seconds. Lewis Benson has had a string of

:46:31. > :46:33.successful shots. Bowyn Morgan was less effective in the closing

:46:34. > :46:41.moments with his aggression. Morgan thinks he has done enough. How will

:46:42. > :46:47.those judges see this? It was even coming into the final round. Benson

:46:48. > :46:52.did better in the last round. In the last minute, he managed to box at

:46:53. > :47:07.Grange much better and he kept his man at range. -- at range. This is

:47:08. > :47:14.very close indeed. Would you appreciate someone going forward and

:47:15. > :47:24.looking to win on the front foot? Ladies and gentlemen, after three

:47:25. > :47:38.rounds, we have a split decision. The winner, in the red corner... And

:47:39. > :47:44.your appreciation for Lewis Benson, representing Scotland. Lewis Benson

:47:45. > :47:48.acknowledging the cry, his Commonwealth Games tournament comes

:47:49. > :47:54.to an end, courtesy of the man who is holding the ropes. Bowyn Morgan,

:47:55. > :48:01.the winner honest but decision. Two of the judges favoured his style. It

:48:02. > :48:06.was that type of contest. One round each going into the final round. Nip

:48:07. > :48:18.and tuck final round. That is just how close it was. Disappointment for

:48:19. > :48:21.the home interest in the boxing. These are the Commonwealth Games

:48:22. > :48:25.where you can take your pick as to what you watch in terms of all the

:48:26. > :48:31.various sports on offer. If you switch across to BBC One, this is

:48:32. > :48:37.what they have. The badminton. Gary, Hazel and Clare are broadcasting

:48:38. > :48:42.from that building. It does look like an overgrown sauna! They are at

:48:43. > :48:49.the top of a tower for the output from BBC One. On the Red Button you

:48:50. > :48:54.can get the boxing for the best part of day number two. We saw there was

:48:55. > :48:59.Benson coming second in his contest and he is from Edinburgh. Compared

:49:00. > :49:04.to some of the other athletes who are here at Glasgow, he had to make

:49:05. > :49:09.a relatively short journey. But spare a thought for the shooters and

:49:10. > :49:14.athletes who have come from the tiny Pacific island of St Helena.

:49:15. > :49:23.Katherine Grainger went to meet them.

:49:24. > :49:30.I am at Glasgow airport for one of the busiest days for Commonwealth

:49:31. > :49:44.Games arrivals. I will meet one very special team. We leave on the 11th

:49:45. > :49:48.of July, we get to Cape Town on the 16th of July and we fly from Cape

:49:49. > :50:22.Town to Amsterdam and then Glasgow. This is the first trip? No, I have

:50:23. > :50:37.been away some other times, twice to the previous games. We had a good

:50:38. > :51:08.night last night. We had a couple of games. Where are you going tonight?

:51:09. > :51:13.The cocktail party! NAFU hours we will be docking in Cape Town so we

:51:14. > :51:26.will see in Glasgow in a couple of days. -- in a few hours. Fellow!

:51:27. > :51:32.Welcome to Scotland! -- hello. How was the journey? You are smiling!

:51:33. > :51:39.Are you excited? Ten days to get here and the competition starts?

:51:40. > :51:47.Shooting is on the 25th of July. Good luck with everything. And enjoy

:51:48. > :51:51.your time in Scotland. The Commonwealth Games only lasts 11

:51:52. > :51:55.days so they are going to spend almost twice as long getting here

:51:56. > :52:02.and getting back home. If they can get the competition right, it is all

:52:03. > :52:07.worth it. Good to see them here safely and we

:52:08. > :52:12.wish them well. There are competitions going on outside of

:52:13. > :52:19.Glasgow and the shooting around to some of those others. -- we are

:52:20. > :52:23.shooting. At Carnoustie, at the Barry Buddon Shooting Centre, that

:52:24. > :52:40.is where the shooting competition has been taking place. Skeet started

:52:41. > :52:45.today. Here is a guide. Shot gun requires competitors to fire at

:52:46. > :52:48.moving targets, desks which are made of pitch and truck. These are

:52:49. > :52:53.launched into the air in different directions from the trap. The

:52:54. > :52:57.targets are released on or after the command from the shooter. The head

:52:58. > :53:03.is declared with at least one visible piece of clay is seen to

:53:04. > :53:08.fall. The targets or 11 centimetres in diameter and a travel at a speed

:53:09. > :53:12.of 60 mph. In all shotgun events the shooter must be standing with both

:53:13. > :53:17.hands supporting the gun. In Glasgow there are three separate shotgun

:53:18. > :53:23.events. Skeet, trap and double trap. In skeet, one or two different clays

:53:24. > :53:27.are launched a different heights. One just over three metres and the

:53:28. > :53:31.other over one metre. Any trap, shooters fire at single ones lost

:53:32. > :53:36.from 50 metres in front of them. They get to shots per target in

:53:37. > :53:42.qualification but only one of them in the final. In the double trap,

:53:43. > :53:46.they stand 50 metres away while two are launched simultaneously. The

:53:47. > :53:50.shooters have one shot at each clay. In all events, the top six from the

:53:51. > :53:58.qualification and fans to the semifinals. -- advance. Those are

:53:59. > :54:04.the rules but in terms of the venue, it is at Carnoustie. At the Barry

:54:05. > :54:12.Buddon Shooting Centre. And we can join David Currie. All eyes today or

:54:13. > :54:16.on the England teenage sensation and Young personality of the year

:54:17. > :54:27.winner, Amber Hill. It has been eventful for her? Yes, you could say

:54:28. > :54:30.that. She has been eliminated from the competition in dramatic

:54:31. > :54:35.circumstances. Nine shooters in the qualifying round go down to six of

:54:36. > :54:41.them in the semifinal and she had a shoot out which involved her fellow

:54:42. > :54:44.competitor from England, Sarah Gray. At that stage, Amber Hill, the world

:54:45. > :54:55.record-holder, was eliminated and out of the competition. Tell us who

:54:56. > :54:59.actually made it through. Sarah Gray from England is there and the only

:55:00. > :55:05.other British shooter is Elena Allen from Wales. She is Russian born. A

:55:06. > :55:09.world bronze medallist and tipped by many to pick up a medal. Perhaps

:55:10. > :55:10.bronze or silver but possibly even gold.

:55:11. > :55:14.many to pick up a medal. Perhaps bronze or silver And one of the big

:55:15. > :55:21.personalities in the world of target shooting. Laura and Mark, three-time

:55:22. > :55:36.gold medallist. If you Google her, the eyes will pop from your head!

:55:37. > :55:44.The final is just about to get underway. I will put my earplugs in

:55:45. > :55:55.if I can find them and leave you in the good hands of our commentator

:55:56. > :55:59.Alex Smith. The semifinal and final is about to get underway but let me

:56:00. > :56:05.introduced you to the six semifinalists. First of all, from

:56:06. > :56:14.Wales, a warm welcome to Elena Allen.

:56:15. > :56:37.She earned her position in these E final in a shoot off. From Cyprus,

:56:38. > :56:43.Andri Eleftheriou. From Australia, Lauryn Mark.

:56:44. > :56:55.And also representing Australia, Laura Coles. She was the top

:56:56. > :57:03.qualifier. From India, are teasing row. -- are teasing row.

:57:04. > :57:24.The referee in charge is John McIntyre.

:57:25. > :57:31.Time for the action to get underway. The formalities are out of

:57:32. > :57:41.the way and we are preparing for the competition to commence. They will

:57:42. > :57:47.be doing so on station three. They will use station three, four and

:57:48. > :57:53.five and then back to station for. There will be two doubles from each

:57:54. > :57:59.station. The high house first and then the low house. In the second

:58:00. > :58:05.double, the low house first and then the high house. It is a repeat of

:58:06. > :58:11.that sequence on all four stations. Elena Allen gets down with one

:58:12. > :58:20.double out of the way, two from two. This is a total out of 16, remember.

:58:21. > :58:25.Now for the low house. And it is a no target as only one appeared. That

:58:26. > :58:31.sometimes occurs. These are special flash targets containing and a

:58:32. > :58:43.luminous pink powder that makes it easier to see the break. So she now

:58:44. > :58:53.has four from four. Sarah Gray now, she got into this through a shoot

:58:54. > :59:00.off. High house first. And comfortably takes that first pair.

:59:01. > :59:13.Very comfortable indeed. Now for the second double. This time the low

:59:14. > :59:20.house target first. They was a tiny puff of dust on that but it has been

:59:21. > :59:34.given as a lost bird soap she is three from four. Andri Eleftheriou

:59:35. > :59:41.now from Cyprus. Two from two. The second double as she turns to the

:59:42. > :59:47.low house target which has to be shot first.

:59:48. > :00:04.And she does so, so four from four. Now to Lauryn Mark of Australia.

:00:05. > :00:20.There is a delay of anything to three seconds after the call, around

:00:21. > :00:37.the lake, the computer selects the time interval. -- a random delay.

:00:38. > :00:43.And a clean double again. Four from four, very tight at this stage of

:00:44. > :00:49.this semifinal. Laura Coles was the highest placed qualifier but that

:00:50. > :00:57.reflects nothing in the order. The scores are back to zero now.

:00:58. > :01:08.The glasses being used here are to highlight the target against the

:01:09. > :01:17.background, the tint highlights the luminescent orange, particularly

:01:18. > :01:25.against a green background. Just takes it but that is enough so four

:01:26. > :01:32.from four. Now Arti Singh Rao from India. The last to test this

:01:33. > :01:44.station. Two cartridges income gun closed,

:01:45. > :02:01.ready to call. Four from four for Arti Singh Rao as

:02:02. > :02:06.well and now they move to station for and the same sequence again.

:02:07. > :02:16.There we have the rankings. All even apart from Sarah Gray who is just

:02:17. > :02:28.one target behind. It is the same sequence again, two doubles, high

:02:29. > :02:41.house first. Elena Allen of Wales. Now another double.

:02:42. > :02:50.And one bird down. She now has seven out of a possible eight as Sarah

:02:51. > :03:02.Gray takes the stand. Now the second double four Sarah,

:03:03. > :03:38.from station four. Four from four on that station.

:03:39. > :03:47.Andri Eleftheriou now. First double dispatched, now for the second. The

:03:48. > :03:56.low house first and she turns to see that exit first and then had to turn

:03:57. > :04:05.to face the high house target. And puts one down. Three from four on

:04:06. > :04:16.that station for her. Now Lauryn Mark. The first of her two doubles

:04:17. > :04:24.on station four. She is wearing a lighter shade of glasses than the

:04:25. > :04:33.other shooters. The first of that double put down. Now the second

:04:34. > :04:48.double, this time turning to the low house first.

:04:49. > :04:57.Another single bird down so that has been an expensive station, two

:04:58. > :05:05.targets lost. Now Laura Coles, also from Australia. The first of her

:05:06. > :05:14.doubles. Looking towards the high house. And she misses the first

:05:15. > :05:19.target. There is enormous pressure in a competition of this standing.

:05:20. > :05:23.Many competitors say that this is tougher than World Cups and World

:05:24. > :05:28.Championships, there is great expectation, the pressure of

:05:29. > :05:34.competition really builds. They have shot these targets thousands of

:05:35. > :05:44.times before. And she makes it clean on that last double. The nerves

:05:45. > :05:55.probably impacting on everyone so far with those missed targets.

:05:56. > :06:05.Arti Singh Rao now facing her second double on station four, she has not

:06:06. > :06:14.dropped a target yet in this competition. As she does that time,

:06:15. > :06:24.just let's one go. The field now is pretty well even with just Lauryn

:06:25. > :06:29.Mark one target behind. The rest of the field locked even. Now to

:06:30. > :06:32.station number five and again it is two doubles with the high house

:06:33. > :06:45.target first. Now for the high house to target to

:06:46. > :07:03.be the first of this double. And Elena Allen puts down one, her

:07:04. > :07:08.second lower case miss of this semifinal. Sarah Gray now. Low house

:07:09. > :07:24.target first. And she puts down one. Now for the second double. She

:07:25. > :07:55.cleans up that double. Now the first 44 Andri Eleftheriou.

:07:56. > :08:04.-- the first double four Andri Eleftheriou.

:08:05. > :08:32.And successfully cleans up the second double. Lauryn Mark now.

:08:33. > :08:44.And she puts down the high house target. Now in this double, facing

:08:45. > :08:53.the high house first. And she misses the high so that has

:08:54. > :09:03.been an expensive round, two down. Laura Coles. As we approach the

:09:04. > :09:26.three quarters mark. Laura Coles makes no mistake with

:09:27. > :09:28.the low house double, now for the double with the high house target

:09:29. > :09:39.first. And another clean two. Now for Arti

:09:40. > :10:06.Singh Rao. And she drops the second of that

:10:07. > :10:32.pair. And another one down. That is what

:10:33. > :10:56.the pressure cooker of the semifinal does. Onto the four targets. We just

:10:57. > :11:17.have two from 11. This is Elena Allen from Wales. She drops one.

:11:18. > :11:32.Makes sure of that pair. That takes her total out of the 16 to 13. The

:11:33. > :11:51.16 to 13. 13 from 16. Now from England, Sarah Gray. She drops one.

:11:52. > :12:07.She needs to claim the stubble. -- this double. And she does. Also 13

:12:08. > :12:20.from 16 for Sarah Gray. Now Andri Eleftheriou from Cyprus. Two doubles

:12:21. > :12:28.from this station. High first. And that is a double loss. That will

:12:29. > :12:36.weigh heavily on the result. Now she has a second double to go but that

:12:37. > :12:49.has been a very expensive miss for her. It will bring her back to the

:12:50. > :12:57.pack. And she drops another. This is what the pressure of games

:12:58. > :13:12.competition does. 12 from 16 now. She was in a position to take the

:13:13. > :13:17.lead. Lauryn Mark of Australia. And she drops one. She throws the shell

:13:18. > :13:31.into the basket. After the second double. The best she can hope for,

:13:32. > :13:41.and that is a double miss, that is a huge disappointment for her. To

:13:42. > :13:55.finish the station. Just nine from 16 for Lauryn Mark. Now Laura Coles

:13:56. > :14:16.who was actually the top qualifier. Clean. This double would put her

:14:17. > :14:27.equal in the lead. If she takes the low house double, it would put her

:14:28. > :14:38.in the lead. And she does. 15 from 16 for Laura Coles. That is a big

:14:39. > :14:52.semifinal. Arti Singh Rao from India. She puts down one. Not happy

:14:53. > :15:08.with that result. Now the last double of the semifinal. APPLAUSE

:15:09. > :15:16.. And a convincing way to finish. And we will have a clear leader but

:15:17. > :15:21.there will be a shoot off to determine who will go into the medal

:15:22. > :15:30.matches. We have a tie that must be broken to determine who goes into

:15:31. > :15:36.the bronze medal match. Elena Allen and Sarah Gray are going to shoot

:15:37. > :15:42.off to determine who will join Laura Coles in that medal match. Laura

:15:43. > :15:53.Coles has to wait while the other placings are determined. Laura Coles

:15:54. > :15:58.is to target out in front at 15 out of 16. We have a shoot off to

:15:59. > :16:18.resolve who else can contest the medal matches. Sarah Gray. The shoot

:16:19. > :16:33.off will be between Arti Singh Rao of India and Andri Eleftheriou from

:16:34. > :16:37.Cyprus. We need to did determine who will go into the gold medal match

:16:38. > :16:54.and we need to eliminate one to go into the bronze medal match. The

:16:55. > :17:01.shoot off will be conducted in the same sequence as the semifinal. They

:17:02. > :17:11.will be starting on station three. It should get underway immediately.

:17:12. > :17:16.So the sequence of events is the shoot off to resolve the positions,

:17:17. > :17:21.then the bronze medal match, followed by the gold, silver medal

:17:22. > :17:25.match. They are going for 16 targets. The shoot of, however, is

:17:26. > :18:03.sudden death. The referee is conferring now. Now,

:18:04. > :18:06.this is the first time that these new rules have been shot at the

:18:07. > :18:11.Commonwealth Games. They were only brought into play at the end of the

:18:12. > :18:17.London Olympic Games. It is the first time that the qualification

:18:18. > :18:24.scores did not carry through as an aggregate into the finals. Up until

:18:25. > :18:30.the 1st of January 2013, it was an aggregate scoring system. The jury

:18:31. > :18:34.members are checking the scores to make sure that what you can see on

:18:35. > :18:40.the scoreboard tallies with what they have written down. Obviously,

:18:41. > :18:48.these are anxious moments for the athletes. They have to go through

:18:49. > :18:54.this procedure to make sure that both scorecards tally with the

:18:55. > :18:59.electronic scorecard. In a minute or two we should be back under way. The

:19:00. > :19:06.way it works, we will start from the bottom. The first shoot off will be

:19:07. > :19:10.between Arti Singh Rao of India and Andri Eleftheriou from Cyprus.

:19:11. > :19:14.Afterwards, we will have the play-off to decide who goes into the

:19:15. > :19:27.gold medal match. The first shoot off will be to determine who makes

:19:28. > :19:36.up the bronze medal shoot. There is a break in proceedings. Bringers of

:19:37. > :19:48.the speed exactly what happening in Carnoustie. -- bring us up to speed.

:19:49. > :19:53.We have one woman definitely through to the final, Laura Coles of

:19:54. > :20:02.Australia. She is into the gold medal match. We have a play-off to

:20:03. > :20:09.determine, I say a shoot off, to determine who goes into that

:20:10. > :20:14.gold-medal match. There will definitely be a British athlete in

:20:15. > :20:25.that. Before that, we have a shoot off between Andri Eleftheriou of

:20:26. > :20:34.Cyprus and arty rousing of India -- Arti Singh Rao from India. The crowd

:20:35. > :20:38.here has been treated to a real afternoon of drama and it is a

:20:39. > :20:46.learning experience for many of us here is a learning experience for

:20:47. > :20:56.many of us here this this is due to a change in rules this afternoon. It

:20:57. > :21:01.certainly is making it a much more interesting than when the scores

:21:02. > :21:06.were carried forward from qualification. At the semifinal

:21:07. > :21:14.stage, everything is turned back to zero and drama is practically

:21:15. > :21:24.unlimited. For now, David, thank you very much indeed. Let's head back to

:21:25. > :21:31.the commentary team. COMMENTATOR: It is in the order so Andri Eleftheriou

:21:32. > :21:44.will be the first to shoot. There will be a double shown and then they

:21:45. > :21:56.will be into it. No. No double show. No target. Nothing emerged. A system

:21:57. > :22:03.reset. Waiting now. For the machinery to be ready. The referee

:22:04. > :22:06.is saying yes. Again, Andri Eleftheriou on the mark, preparing

:22:07. > :22:29.for the first double of the shoot off. So, clean for Andri

:22:30. > :22:35.Eleftheriou. Now, Arti Singh Rao. So it is now another double. Another

:22:36. > :22:49.double, this time with the low house target first. So, the first to miss

:22:50. > :23:10.will be out after the scores at the double R added. So far, locked even.

:23:11. > :23:14.-- are added. And Arti Singh Rao has dropped both targets. That puts

:23:15. > :23:23.Andri Eleftheriou into the bronze medal match. Conrad chill a share

:23:24. > :23:30.and to Andri Eleftheriou who goes through to the bronze medal match.

:23:31. > :23:43.Now we have two determined which of Elena Allen and Sarah Gray will go

:23:44. > :23:53.into the gold-medal match. They have eight shots each. So, now, this

:23:54. > :24:07.determines who will go into the gold-medal match. Elena Allen will

:24:08. > :24:31.shoot first. Now, this shoot off is ready to get underway. So that

:24:32. > :24:46.double dispatched by Elena Allen of Wales. Now, Sarah Gray for her

:24:47. > :24:52.double. And that resolves the shoot off. It will be Elena Allen who goes

:24:53. > :24:59.into the gold-medal match against Laura Coles of Australia. And Sarah

:25:00. > :25:13.Gray will contest the bronze medal match. Please give your

:25:14. > :25:19.congratulations to Elena Allen for making it through to the gold-medal

:25:20. > :25:20.match. APPLAUSE Now the business end gets underway

:25:21. > :25:38.with the bronze medal match. The first match we will be seeing is

:25:39. > :25:42.the bronze medal match between Andri Eleftheriou and Sarah Gray to

:25:43. > :25:46.determine who wins the bronze medal and then it will be the gold medal

:25:47. > :25:55.match between Laura Coles and Elena Allen. The scores are reset to zero

:25:56. > :26:04.for these matches, there will be 16 targets. It is a repeat of the

:26:05. > :26:10.semifinal procedure, the same four stations, stations three, four and

:26:11. > :26:13.five and then back to station five again with a double on each station

:26:14. > :26:43.for both medal matches. The crowd getting enthusiastic and

:26:44. > :26:48.supporting the tension that has been in the air. It is a rum at the tents

:26:49. > :26:56.way of conducting this elimination for the medals -- it is a remarkably

:26:57. > :27:12.tense way. It is not unusual for the top

:27:13. > :27:17.qualifier not to make the medal match but in this case that is not

:27:18. > :27:23.what has happened. We have the top qualifier as the first into the gold

:27:24. > :27:35.medal match. The nerves and pressure often produce upsets. The squad

:27:36. > :27:42.sheet is being too prepared -- being prepared to mark the manual scores.

:27:43. > :27:52.It always takes a little bit of time to do the paperwork.

:27:53. > :28:04.So the competitors are ready. They will be shooting in bib order so

:28:05. > :28:05.Sarah Gray of England will shoot first followed by Andri Eleftheriou

:28:06. > :28:21.of Cyprus. Eleftheriou won the gold medal in

:28:22. > :28:33.the Skeet at the Melbourne games in 2006. She started shooting when she

:28:34. > :28:39.was just nine years of age. She is sitting on the bronze medal flag and

:28:40. > :28:54.that might be the position she ends up in.

:28:55. > :29:06.Sarah Gray readies herself for the first double of this bronze medal

:29:07. > :29:19.match. Onto the mark... Ready, high house target first. And she puts one

:29:20. > :29:27.down. Now the second double. This is 816 target competition again,

:29:28. > :29:40.starting from zero. -- a 16 target competition. And a successful double

:29:41. > :29:47.so three from four for Sarah Gray. Now Andri Eleftheriou, her first

:29:48. > :29:55.double, high house target first. A clean double. Requires a mix of

:29:56. > :30:10.confidence and aggression. And she puts one down so they are

:30:11. > :30:12.locked even after station one, both one down. Moving on to station four.

:30:13. > :30:36.Again, two doubles here. And Sarah Gray drops that first

:30:37. > :30:41.target. She picks up the low house second. Now for the double with the

:30:42. > :30:56.low house first. And successfully dispatches that.

:30:57. > :31:04.Eleftheriou prepares to take the station. Ready for the first double

:31:05. > :31:12.with the high house target coming from her left, the targets do 100

:31:13. > :31:21.kilometres per hour. She makes it look easy. Incredible gun speed

:31:22. > :31:27.required to pick up that second target and get in front of it. The

:31:28. > :31:34.trigger needs to be pulled well ahead of the target as she drops the

:31:35. > :31:39.second of that double. They are still even, six from eight. Moving

:31:40. > :31:52.now on to station five. The double sequence changes slightly

:31:53. > :31:59.here with the low house target to be shot first.

:32:00. > :32:04.Sarah Gray dispatches that double, now for the second.

:32:05. > :32:27.And that is a double loss, that is expensive. Eight from 12 with four

:32:28. > :32:41.more to go for Sarah Gray. Eleftheriou, two down. And she drops

:32:42. > :32:43.another to make it three down. She needs to be clean on this double to

:32:44. > :33:00.stay ahead of Sarah Gray. Which she does. That moves her to a

:33:01. > :33:10.one target lead going into the final four targets on station four. So

:33:11. > :33:17.this is the last Station, the last four targets of this bronze medal

:33:18. > :33:25.match, the first medal match of the shooting at the Commonwealth Games.

:33:26. > :33:28.She snaps up that first double. Now the last double of the contest with

:33:29. > :33:51.the low house target first. And she does. Taking her to 12 from

:33:52. > :33:55.16. Now Eleftheriou to see if she can retain her lead and take the

:33:56. > :34:02.bronze medal. Four targets remaining. First double dispatched

:34:03. > :34:11.and now just two targets to go. She needs to shoot both to get the medal

:34:12. > :34:16.or they will be able shoot-off. -- there will be. And she does so the

:34:17. > :34:24.bronze medal goes to Andri Eleftheriou of Cyprus. Eight tenths.

:34:25. > :34:32.It was a tense battle with Sarah Gray.

:34:33. > :34:43.Eleftheriou, a big relief now that the competition is over, are huge

:34:44. > :34:55.amount of pressure out there. There she is, she is at last allowed to

:34:56. > :35:04.relax after a tense day. Now for the gold medal match, the battle to

:35:05. > :35:15.determine gold and silver. Between Elena Allen of Wales and Laura Coles

:35:16. > :35:32.of Australia. They will shoot in the order of their bib.

:35:33. > :35:51.All is set now for the gold medal match.

:35:52. > :36:09.And no mistake. A good start for her. Two from two for Elena Allen.

:36:10. > :36:25.And drops the high house target of that pair so she is now one down,

:36:26. > :36:27.three from four. Laura Coles now for her first four targets of this gold

:36:28. > :36:34.medal match. Confident precision. Now the second

:36:35. > :37:08.double. Laura Coles. As we move on to

:37:09. > :37:12.station three and the beautiful blue skies of earlier today are beginning

:37:13. > :37:24.to get overtaken by some fog rolling in from the North Sea, the light is

:37:25. > :37:28.dulling here slightly. Elena Allen cleans up the first double on this

:37:29. > :37:33.station and now another with the low house target to be shot first.

:37:34. > :37:35.station and now another with the low has dulled significantly here in

:37:36. > :37:41.station and now another with the low last few minutes with the fog. She

:37:42. > :37:43.drops the last of that double as well, her second target lost. Now

:37:44. > :37:56.Laura Coles. Those losses can give confidence to

:37:57. > :38:05.a competitor but it can also add further to the pressure. Very

:38:06. > :38:09.confident double from Laura Coles. She has not missed a target yet in

:38:10. > :38:29.this round. Six from six. And another clean double. Eight from

:38:30. > :38:34.eight from Laura Coles at halfway. Eight targets to go as they move to

:38:35. > :38:40.station number five where they shoot another double but this time the

:38:41. > :38:50.first one is a low house target. Elena Allen of Wales, two targets

:38:51. > :39:05.behind Laura Coles. And cleans up that double. Now for the second

:39:06. > :39:15.double on station five. And she is clean on that station. That gives

:39:16. > :39:19.her ten from 12. Laura Coles now, can she retain her lead? She has at

:39:20. > :39:34.two target advantage. Very fast and confident from Laura

:39:35. > :39:40.Coles as the confidence and aggression seems to be building in

:39:41. > :39:43.her now, her speed is increasing. She is obviously seeing the targets

:39:44. > :39:57.extremely confidently. And she puts one down so she still

:39:58. > :40:10.retains a lead of one target at the three quarters mark. This is station

:40:11. > :40:38.for. The last four targets of this medal match. A perfect 44 Elena

:40:39. > :40:48.Allen. And she drops one to move just to targets down. Laura Coles

:40:49. > :41:05.has the pressure on her now. She has two shoot two of these to be level

:41:06. > :41:15.with Elena Allen. So, Laura now has two get one of these to draw even.

:41:16. > :41:29.Two to win it. She has to get both to win it. And she drops one. No!

:41:30. > :41:39.She has won it outright. 14 from 16 for Coles. One target clear of Elena

:41:40. > :41:42.Allen. Laura Coles of Australia with the gold medal. Elena Allen from

:41:43. > :41:47.Wales with the silver medal. The end of a very long day of intense

:41:48. > :42:16.competition. On graduations all-round. -- congratulations all

:42:17. > :42:20.round. I am joined by a lady who narrowly missed out on bronze in the

:42:21. > :42:28.shoot off. Sarah Gray, commiserations. I have had a

:42:29. > :42:33.brilliant day, my first Commonwealth Games. It was tragic but I enjoyed

:42:34. > :42:38.every minute of it. I thought I was going strong, made a couple of

:42:39. > :42:45.mistakes but I thought I had a pretty good final. It is all about

:42:46. > :42:50.minor details. What mistakes did you make? It is getting used to shooting

:42:51. > :42:54.under this much pressure. I am relatively new to it. I dropped one

:42:55. > :43:01.that I wouldn't have normally but I am working on it and it is getting

:43:02. > :43:04.better. Are you talking about the pressure of the packed gallery? It

:43:05. > :43:11.is completely not what we are used to so it takes you a bit getting

:43:12. > :43:16.used to it. It was looking as though it could be a British one and two at

:43:17. > :43:21.one stage. Elena Allen got into the final and it looked like you could

:43:22. > :43:27.be fighting it out for gold. In the end, Laura Coles won it in fantastic

:43:28. > :43:33.fashion. She has had the most amazing day. She hit the biggest

:43:34. > :43:37.fall in qualification and she has an amazing final and she thoroughly

:43:38. > :43:41.deserves the gold. Congratulations on your performance in your first

:43:42. > :43:46.ever Commonwealth Games and commiserations on just missing out

:43:47. > :43:50.on that bronze medal. Now, we have with others Elena Allen.

:43:51. > :43:56.Congratulations on your silver medal. Again, such drama going down

:43:57. > :44:03.to a shoot out at the end. Are you disappointed to miss out on gold? I

:44:04. > :44:08.am delighted to have made it into the gold-medal match. Yes,

:44:09. > :44:12.disappointed to have missed that by one target but a medal is a medal.

:44:13. > :44:19.If you get into the bronze medal match, one person is left with

:44:20. > :44:27.nothing, so at least I have got a medal. I missed by one target. What

:44:28. > :44:33.went wrong? Is it inevitable that you are not going to hit them all?

:44:34. > :44:38.Some days, you do hit them all, it is just life. Thank you very much

:44:39. > :44:44.indeed and congratulations on your silver medal. We almost had a first

:44:45. > :44:53.gold medal for Wales but Elena Allen seems pretty pleased with that first

:44:54. > :45:01.silver medal. Thanks very much. Silver medal for Elena Allen. Well

:45:02. > :45:06.done to her. Let's pay our second visit to the SEC C. Another of the

:45:07. > :45:15.boxing preliminaries. Nothing like the drama of two superheavy waits

:45:16. > :45:22.slugging it out. -- to super heavyweight. He has just realised

:45:23. > :45:29.that he is on TV. Let's find out more from Joe. He has been taken to

:45:30. > :45:53.the ring against Keddy Agnes from the Seychelles. COMMENTATOR: You can

:45:54. > :45:58.just see the contrast in physique. The man from England towering over

:45:59. > :46:05.the man from the Seychelles and that is Keddy Agnes, 28 years of age. If

:46:06. > :46:13.there is a weakness for Joe Joyce it is that occasionally he can beat

:46:14. > :46:17.court cold. In a semifinal at the Olympic Games, there was a problem

:46:18. > :46:23.getting him to the ring. He was stopped in the opening round. In the

:46:24. > :46:29.World Championships at Kazakhstan last year, the same fate befell him

:46:30. > :46:35.again. If he gets through the early stages and warms up and finds his

:46:36. > :46:41.rhythm, he is a nightmare for any opponent to face. He is in terrific

:46:42. > :46:47.condition. He has an engine that really does have to be witnessed to

:46:48. > :46:57.be believed. He has got a terrific engine but in this opening round. He

:46:58. > :47:03.should be boxing more sensibly. He has taken a fewer risks. It would be

:47:04. > :47:11.advisable for Joe to punch straight. That was better, nice and long. Box

:47:12. > :47:17.at range. Don't take risks on the inside. These are bent arm shots

:47:18. > :47:25.coming from Agnes. You have two docks at long range from early on

:47:26. > :47:31.and do not take any risks. A considerable advantageous in terms

:47:32. > :47:37.of height and reach but his brilliant left jab has not been

:47:38. > :47:46.witnessed so it has enabled his opponent Agnes to get into his own

:47:47. > :47:51.punching range. Just keep popping out the jab. Break down your

:47:52. > :47:55.opponent with the jab. Leave a big rap between you and your shorter

:47:56. > :48:02.opponent. These are the instructions for Joe Joyce. That is what they

:48:03. > :48:07.will have said in the corner. Just making the odd mistake. He is an con

:48:08. > :48:13.troll but every now and again Agnes lands those bent arm shots and that

:48:14. > :48:19.should not really be happening. Inside the final 30 seconds of the

:48:20. > :48:24.opening round. Agnes is continuing to throw caution to the wind with

:48:25. > :48:29.short arm punches. That was a good right hand to the body from Joe

:48:30. > :48:34.Joyce. Some of them are landing on target but if Joe Joyce gets at

:48:35. > :48:42.range, it is going to be very difficult for Agnes. Just to close

:48:43. > :48:49.the gap is difficult for Agnes. Joyce has won the round but he has

:48:50. > :48:57.been caught by the odd shot. Moments from this fella were OK. Generally,

:48:58. > :49:01.Joyce was in control but took the odd shot on the inside and he should

:49:02. > :49:07.not really be there on close quarters. He has to concentrate on

:49:08. > :49:12.long-range work. Agnes did really well. That is mainly because Joyce

:49:13. > :49:21.allowed his plan to close the gap. But Joyce won the round for me. All

:49:22. > :49:24.three judges in favour of the man representing England, Joe Joyce

:49:25. > :49:40.taking that round in unanimous fashion. His second applying the

:49:41. > :49:48.petroleum jelly. He was coach of the year past. He has very experienced

:49:49. > :49:52.coaches in his corner. At least he has got the opening round under his

:49:53. > :49:59.belt but there are still improvements to be made. Hard arcing

:50:00. > :50:03.punches being crashed home by Agnes in the early stages. Being warned

:50:04. > :50:10.for punching with the inside of the glove. Joe Joyce not establishing

:50:11. > :50:16.any length or distance with that terrific left jab that he possesses.

:50:17. > :50:25.Allowing Agnes to get into punching range and scoring with shots of his

:50:26. > :50:33.own. Despite being just 20 years of age, Agnes is an experienced boxer

:50:34. > :50:37.in international competitions. He has contested two World

:50:38. > :50:42.Championships, in Azerbaijan in 2011 and the next edition in Kazakhstan

:50:43. > :50:50.last year. The first was at 81 kilograms. In Kazakhstan he was a 91

:50:51. > :50:57.kilograms box. He has outgrown that weight limit and is now competing at

:50:58. > :51:04.super heavyweight. That is well blocked from Joyce. Agnes is trying

:51:05. > :51:10.to get through with the right hand. Joe, again, walking forward. As we

:51:11. > :51:16.say that, he should not be boxing there but he is getting shown good

:51:17. > :51:23.shots himself. He obviously fancies it. He has got a terrific engine,

:51:24. > :51:29.very strong indeed. Agnes lands the odd shot now and again which is

:51:30. > :51:34.getting the crowd excited. Every shot from Agnes landing with bad

:51:35. > :51:38.intentions and maximum power. He is letting them go from middle and

:51:39. > :51:46.short range. Swinging away with bent arms. There is not enough of them.

:51:47. > :51:56.He does not sustain the attacks. He goes back into his shell. Joe Joyce

:51:57. > :52:02.won't want any of those two include a Sunday punch that puts him in

:52:03. > :52:10.trouble. Joyce in control inside the final minute of the second round.

:52:11. > :52:15.The difference, Agnes is getting a little bit desperate. Joe Joyce is

:52:16. > :52:21.just warming up. He has boxed over five rounds and he is very fit for a

:52:22. > :52:30.super heavyweight. Agnes is now getting a bit desperate and tired.

:52:31. > :52:37.Very inaccurate with his work. Inside the final ten seconds. The

:52:38. > :52:44.way in which this contest has played out, the volume and quality has come

:52:45. > :52:50.from Joyce. Explosive burst of punches from Agnes. Some of which

:52:51. > :52:57.have found a way through the defence of Joe Joyce. But after two rounds,

:52:58. > :53:06.the man from England, he should have done enough to take both rounds.

:53:07. > :53:09.Agnes, the odd shot. Loopholes appearing in his guard. He gets

:53:10. > :53:30.caught with a terrific left hand from Joyce. He is two rounds up.

:53:31. > :53:35.Keeping very calm in his corner. Well, one of the judges are

:53:36. > :53:49.favouring the aggression of Agnes in that second round. Not unanimous

:53:50. > :53:55.fashion in favour of Joyce. The referee now happy. The third and

:53:56. > :54:06.final round begins in the men's super heavyweight division. Joe

:54:07. > :54:16.Joyce, in blue, the current bronze-medallist. In Azerbaijan, he

:54:17. > :54:23.was stopped cold in the first round by a big punching Algerian. He is

:54:24. > :54:27.starting to get into his groove. Could be more accurate with his jab

:54:28. > :54:34.but volume coming from him. The workrate. He has stepped it up.

:54:35. > :54:40.Joyce just continuing to push out left and right. The old 1-to

:54:41. > :54:53.combination. And old and trusted one. -- 1-2 combination. These shots

:54:54. > :55:00.from Joyce are taking the energy out of his opponent. Now he has got to

:55:01. > :55:03.bring the uppercut into play. He has softened up his opponent, measure

:55:04. > :55:09.the distance with the jab and a whip it up right through the middle. A

:55:10. > :55:15.feature of his boxing in World Series boxing, five rounds without a

:55:16. > :55:21.head guard, conditioning possessed by Joe Joyce. The workrate in rounds

:55:22. > :55:27.four and five would leave the opponent is reading, out of gas.

:55:28. > :55:32.Still coming on strong, testing out with left and right. He has only

:55:33. > :55:41.lost against the very best in World Series boxing. 13th ranked in the

:55:42. > :55:46.world at super heavyweight. Brings his championship credentials, a

:55:47. > :55:50.European Championship bronze. That gap in quality has been apparent in

:55:51. > :56:00.this opening contest in the super heavyweight division. He is just

:56:01. > :56:06.getting a little bit of relaxation in his arms and that promotes the

:56:07. > :56:15.speed. You cannot just keep walking around the ring with your hands held

:56:16. > :56:25.high, tight and high. Then your punches go slowly. Get relaxation

:56:26. > :56:32.back and it promotes the speed. Closing moments of this third and

:56:33. > :56:37.final round. He will want to emerge unscathed from a clash of heads or a

:56:38. > :56:42.stray elbow. Having increasing success now. This is the last role

:56:43. > :56:49.of the dice from Agnes. It hasn't been enough to put a dent into the

:56:50. > :57:00.man from Earls third amateur boxing club. It was like watching an older

:57:01. > :57:09.sibling give a younger one a hug after a forlorn attempt to run the

:57:10. > :57:12.other up. Tremendous. Joe Joyce could have gone another three or

:57:13. > :57:21.four rounds. Extremely fit guy. Worked very well indeed. That right

:57:22. > :57:36.uppercut was probably the shot of the round. A terrific punch. Will

:57:37. > :58:14.not be 100% happy, but nevertheless it is a win under his belt.

:58:15. > :58:19.APPLAUSE. Joe Joyce through to the second round of the heavyweight

:58:20. > :58:25.division. He will meet Scotland's Ross Henderson in what will be an

:58:26. > :58:38.intriguing rematch. Barely a flicker of emotion. Agnes outpointed in a

:58:39. > :58:46.significant fashion. He will take no further part. How hard is it

:58:47. > :58:56.fighting someone almost one foot shorter? It was quite hard,

:58:57. > :59:11.different style. You could not slip, keep them along, if they come

:59:12. > :59:17.in, bring it on. Richie Woodhall said he thought he would be happy,

:59:18. > :59:22.but only just. Very much, I started off OK, I got the win, building on

:59:23. > :59:27.the performance, getting better in each bout. That is what I plan on

:59:28. > :59:33.doing. Have you been studying any of the other fights today? What do you

:59:34. > :59:41.think about the strength of the competition? It is all right. It is

:59:42. > :59:47.good to box different boxes. Great weather, great

:59:48. > :59:56.start, congratulations, onto next round. Not quite the towering

:59:57. > :00:02.performance from Joyce. He goes on to face Ross Henderson and

:00:03. > :00:08.Scotland. That takes place on Tuesday. In case you were wondering

:00:09. > :00:14.why he got such a great ovation, it always helps when your dad is a

:00:15. > :00:19.proud Scot! We are entering the early evening of daily two of

:00:20. > :00:39.Glasgow 2014. Great to have you with us, the sun is still shining on all

:00:40. > :00:45.of us. They even sunshine. -- bathed in sunshine, the oldest AT Park in

:00:46. > :00:54.Glasgow. That is the view from the other side to where we are. A huge

:00:55. > :01:01.landmark. As we hit the top of the hour, time three news roundup.

:01:02. > :01:05.I leave the ashram, travel halfway across the world to find my father,

:01:06. > :01:13.Oh, well. As Vashrati says, gotta keep smiling!

:01:14. > :01:15.We don't tend to use the bathroom together here.

:01:16. > :01:17.All right, well, I'll catch you later.

:01:18. > :01:21.This ashram of yours, it might be a cult.

:01:22. > :01:25.I take it back, he's definitely Cuckoo's son.

:01:26. > :01:40.Hi there, you?ll be back to Manish after the headlines in 60 seconds.

:01:41. > :01:43.Three-year-old Mikaeel Kular's badly beaten body was found

:01:44. > :01:47.Today, his mother Rosdeep admitted killing him.

:01:48. > :01:48.His disappearance prompted a huge police search.

:01:49. > :01:51.Welsh hurdler Rhys Williams is out of the Commonwealth Games

:01:52. > :01:55.He says he has not knowingly taken a banned substance.

:01:56. > :01:59.Tulisa has been found guilty of assaulting a celebrity blogger.

:02:00. > :02:03.She hit Savvas Morgan at the V Festival in Essex last year.

:02:04. > :02:07.She says she has outraged and vowed to clear her name.

:02:08. > :02:10.You may not feel any richer, but the economy is booming.

:02:11. > :02:12.It's now bigger than it was before the global financial crash

:02:13. > :02:15.David Cameron's called the trend a milestone.

:02:16. > :02:18.And she spits, passes wind and is 25 feet tall.

:02:19. > :02:19.Grandma is one of three giant puppets invading

:02:20. > :02:23.They're there to tell the story of the city during World War One.

:02:24. > :02:26.We'll update you later, but now let's get you back to

:02:27. > :03:27.Glasgow 2014 at the Pacific Quays. Let's get to the netball, Scotland

:03:28. > :03:33.in hoping to improve their dramatic progress under the new coach. They

:03:34. > :03:37.are taking on St Lucia, already in the first quarter. Let's see if

:03:38. > :03:48.Scotland can get off to a good start.

:03:49. > :04:05.Just taking stock. St Lucia hit the front, 4-3.

:04:06. > :04:22.Good fly from Forbes. Reading the lofted ball across the circle.

:04:23. > :04:33.How is that? Cool and calm. Showing Maxwell.

:04:34. > :05:02.Donald being marked out of court. The captain adding one more. She saw

:05:03. > :05:08.it coming. Fast on the transition, Scotland, good holding

:05:09. > :05:20.it coming. Fast on the transition, position by Gallagher. You heard the

:05:21. > :05:37.groans from the crowd, she has a go. Lizzie MacDonald trying to convince

:05:38. > :05:47.the umpire it is a Scottish ball. Great contests, Samantha Murphy.

:05:48. > :05:51.Samantha Murphy one of the young up-and-coming stars of Scottish

:05:52. > :06:00.netball, working incredible hard in the world youth level last year. She

:06:01. > :06:08.mentions the New Zealand player as her role model. A challenge for the

:06:09. > :06:15.Scottish defence, Maxwell at: Attack, and Lawrenson, St Lucia, the

:06:16. > :06:27.aerial ball, good ball placement affecting them. Smart work. Could

:06:28. > :06:41.not finish it, Gallagher. She let the ball do the walking. That goes

:06:42. > :06:46.through the hands of Maxwell. Connell looking to place the ball to

:06:47. > :06:51.the shooter, great positioning by the St Lucia circle the fence. --

:06:52. > :07:03.defence. Certainly Connell and Macdonald have

:07:04. > :07:09.played together for more than one decade. For Scotland, a force to be

:07:10. > :07:16.reckoned with when they are both on form. Am I right in saying,

:07:17. > :07:31.MacDonald has 114 tests? Extraordinary.

:07:32. > :07:42.Great ball placement from the youngster, Samantha Murphy. Finding

:07:43. > :07:49.Gallagher, does not miss this time. I think time is called, by Samantha

:07:50. > :08:03.Murphy, the centre for Scotland. Great slow motion. That has drawn

:08:04. > :08:10.Scotland level, 6-6 will -- 6-6. Almost halfway through this first

:08:11. > :08:18.water. Eight opportunities for Scotland, scoring six of those.

:08:19. > :08:29.Murphy on the floor, receiving attention to her leg. Connie Francis

:08:30. > :08:42.making the most of the break to go through a few things with her

:08:43. > :08:47.players. Justin, the goal defence. Let's see if we can catch sight of

:08:48. > :08:55.what happened with Murphy? Hard landing. Right on her knees. She

:08:56. > :09:01.bounces up, but perhaps, halfway through the first quarter, not a bad

:09:02. > :09:10.time to regroup. Possibly a good time for Scotland to rethink, set

:09:11. > :09:17.the game plan. A lot of talking from Gail Perrotta, that is a message

:09:18. > :09:26.going through to the defensive pairing, hold strong.

:09:27. > :09:33.There is a bandage on the knee of Samantha Murphy. She is back with

:09:34. > :09:59.the ball, we resume. Chorizo -- Teresa Prints. Great

:10:00. > :10:04.play, citing that ball early. A good short game being played through to

:10:05. > :10:37.the circle edge by St Lucia. Just readjusting. Watch the dance there.

:10:38. > :10:44.That was a volleyball spiked. -- spike. Murphy with an awful lot of

:10:45. > :10:50.space in the attacking third. Not being tracked. Good response by

:10:51. > :11:05.Gallagher. Scotland hit the front. 7-6. Just under six minutes

:11:06. > :11:23.remaining in the first quarter. Roxanne Snyder goes high to Maxwell.

:11:24. > :11:31.Judie Mathurin is in effect of everything. Scotland need to see

:11:32. > :12:23.where she is, her movements. But the aerial ball through to Lawrenson.

:12:24. > :12:59.Nice build-up, Scotland. Sweet shot from Lynsey Gallagher. Straightaway,

:13:00. > :13:07.they give up the position and now it has gone back the other way. This is

:13:08. > :13:16.fast and furious, this game. Lots of short play. Scotland really working

:13:17. > :13:23.hard, supporting each other but lots of the double play, characteristic

:13:24. > :13:39.New Zealand style coming through from the mid-court. Scotland

:13:40. > :13:46.straightaway wingback possession. Gail Parata is looking calm. Replay

:13:47. > :13:54.of the ball, you cannot have possession of the ball, drop it and

:13:55. > :14:10.then pick it up and play again. Sometimes open to interpretation.

:14:11. > :14:16.The crowd are involved. Rachel Forbes supporting the play well.

:14:17. > :14:22.Good attacking play, using the whip around the circle. Leslie Donald

:14:23. > :14:29.using Samantha Murphy around the circle. Leslie Donald

:14:30. > :14:47.way to the post. Clever play by Lesley MacDonald. Now, scoring

:14:48. > :14:52.quickly and freely. Thumbs up to Leslie Donald. St Lucia desperately

:14:53. > :15:11.need to score one for themselves here. Roxanne Snyder... Maxwell.

:15:12. > :15:26.Ouch, into the post. It is what St Lucia needed. Good defence by St

:15:27. > :15:29.Lucia. That was outstanding by Saphia William. She was just about

:15:30. > :16:01.in the lap of the officials. Just the body alignment. Hayley

:16:02. > :16:18.Mulheron. Costly error. Fabulous ball. That is a good goal for

:16:19. > :16:24.Scotland. Claire Brownie through like a rocket. She was caught as she

:16:25. > :16:33.came through. St Lucia will be aware of the clock situation. Inaccurate

:16:34. > :16:40.feed. Hopefully somebody has their eye on the clock but Scotland.

:16:41. > :16:50.Lesley MacDonald gets the gold. Terrific awareness. Even the

:16:51. > :16:56.defensive players but Scotland were wanting to get it in and get it in

:16:57. > :17:02.now. It was tight at the beginning but then Scotland saddled and have

:17:03. > :17:11.put in some very nice play. -- settled. Just about mixing up the

:17:12. > :17:16.pace and Scotland have started to do that. Interesting attempts at goal.

:17:17. > :17:26.Real difference in the last few minutes. Look at the deflections for

:17:27. > :17:30.Scotland. Ten as opposed to zero, but St Lucia. Little bit of work to

:17:31. > :17:45.do. Connie Francis during this interval. You can see with the tally

:17:46. > :17:49.of turnovers, towing and throwing. Impressive start by this youngster,

:17:50. > :17:56.Lynsey Gallagher. No fear, putting herself out there. Linking well with

:17:57. > :18:05.Linsey Macdonald. This would still be a threat to any defender. --

:18:06. > :18:12.Lesley MacDonald. I think that was probably one of the best centre past

:18:13. > :18:16.set-ups by Scotland. They got their setup back and then through to

:18:17. > :18:48.Lynsey Gallagher under the post. Gail Parata having plenty to say.

:18:49. > :18:58.She will be pretty pleased at the quarter break. Connie Francis

:18:59. > :19:08.getting her players in close around her. They have had patches where St

:19:09. > :19:16.Lucia have looked good. But Scotland look fast. Absolutely. It is the

:19:17. > :19:29.aerial ball St Lucia are putting in that are affecting Rachel Forbes and

:19:30. > :19:39.Hayley Mulheron. I am sure they will try to stop more of that feed coming

:19:40. > :19:41.through. Great start I Scotland. Treasure on them with the home crowd

:19:42. > :19:46.but they did find their form and structure during the last few

:19:47. > :19:47.minutes of that quarter. Scotland to restart the match. It is the start

:19:48. > :20:18.of the second quarter. There is the new shooter for St

:20:19. > :20:22.Lucia, I am a hip alike. I am surprised she has taken Laurencin

:20:23. > :20:59.art. Yes, she was a threat. Rachel brownie again, supporting.

:21:00. > :21:04.Karin Connell is the main feeder, she is putting good balls through to

:21:05. > :21:11.Lynsey Gallagher. Denise Childs now at centre for St Lucia. Hippolyte

:21:12. > :21:37.had nowhere to go. Maxwell is there to tidy.

:21:38. > :21:50.16-10, Scotland lead. Tricky little bounce pass. Great turn of speed and

:21:51. > :21:53.change of direction by Lynsey Gallagher. Over committing the

:21:54. > :22:09.defender. The shootings switched from Scotland. Lynsey Gallagher and

:22:10. > :22:15.Lesley MacDonald swapping places. This is worse Scotland are

:22:16. > :22:27.dangerous. Unable to get any further. Obstruction for Denise

:22:28. > :22:43.Childs. Judy maturing now on at goalkeeper the St Lucia. Scotland

:22:44. > :22:52.have another. 18-10. Karin Connell lost sight of the ball. A let off St

:22:53. > :22:58.Lucia. Just Zebo mid-court zone, Scotland working hard in this area.

:22:59. > :23:14.St Lucia getting the breakthrough. That was clever from Hippolyte. She

:23:15. > :23:19.dropped the ball down to Maxwell and then almost made a barrier. St Lucia

:23:20. > :23:38.on the board. Just taking a little bit more time

:23:39. > :23:43.to look at options, but too many blue dresses at that point. St Lucia

:23:44. > :23:51.just need to look at their ball side work if they are offering. It wasn't

:23:52. > :23:57.a bad idea, just did not quite come off. What can St Lucia do? There

:23:58. > :24:09.will not want Scotland to get away on them. -- they. That is better

:24:10. > :24:24.play. Not able to be finished by Maxwell. Just settling for that

:24:25. > :24:31.shot. Fast transition by Scotland. Lynsey Gallagher, on the other

:24:32. > :24:41.hand, accurate. 19 - 11, Scotland over St Lucia. Fair enough, Denise

:24:42. > :24:45.Charles told to tidy up. Cannot just knock the ball out player's hands.

:24:46. > :25:09.As much as you would like to! Murphy just supporting well. Strong

:25:10. > :25:14.base on the circle edge, up against Denise Charles.

:25:15. > :25:26.Such a great understanding between Karin Connell and Leslie map Donald.

:25:27. > :25:29.Some good/ Gera in the attacking unit -- good structure in the

:25:30. > :26:01.attacking unit for Scotland. Rachel Forbes, in a great position

:26:02. > :26:05.for the rebound. Awkward for Hayley Mulheron. Very patriotic, blue

:26:06. > :26:25.fingernails. That is better from Maxwell. Hefty

:26:26. > :26:31.looking bandage on her right leg. Just looks to be struggling slightly

:26:32. > :26:41.as she was working the high load before she takes a shot. Fatigue,

:26:42. > :26:47.she needs to start to look at dropping back slightly and hopefully

:26:48. > :26:59.Denise Charles and Roxanne Snyder will bring the ball through.

:27:00. > :27:13.Now we have time called. Round about the halfway mark in this quarter,

:27:14. > :27:17.and I wonder if this is tactical. We saw yesterday, I would not say they

:27:18. > :27:24.were preordained, but they always seem to happen around halfway full

:27:25. > :27:32.up to be fair, that is a pretty big knee brace. She's clutching her

:27:33. > :27:37.wrist, as well. Scotland are really carrying on where they left off in

:27:38. > :28:05.the first quarter, proving a real handful for St Lucia. Teresa Prince

:28:06. > :28:11.carrying on. Scotland will be pleased with a lot of airplay,

:28:12. > :28:18.coming from Karen Connell. You talked about the combination she has

:28:19. > :28:26.with her shooters. Linking with it Gallagher, a great threesome.

:28:27. > :28:41.Connell has the craft on the court, an intelligent player. Great in the

:28:42. > :28:48.World Youth Jumping ships. -- Championship.

:28:49. > :29:17.A great take. There is the problem. A lot of the time Murphy finds

:29:18. > :29:21.herself three on the circle edge. It must be something to address by

:29:22. > :29:33.Connie Francis and the St Lucia team. Just limited options

:29:34. > :29:52.available. Scotland picking up possession.

:29:53. > :30:18.23-13, opening up a ten goal lead. We see her leaving the court.

:30:19. > :30:22.Getting quite a whack on the hand. St Lucia trailing, they have a

:30:23. > :30:33.chance. Again, the same defensive pressure. Maxwell coming up to

:30:34. > :30:46.assist. A great tussle between Maxwell and Amal Mall.

:30:47. > :30:48.assist. A great tussle between relatively quick goals for St Lucia.

:30:49. > :30:53.assist. A great tussle between He get the feeling the attacking

:30:54. > :30:56.pair are a lot more comfortable placing it into space. Good reward,

:30:57. > :31:10.Scottish ball. Connell, another one of those circle

:31:11. > :31:30.feeds. They are enjoying themselves, the

:31:31. > :31:38.Scottish fans, why not? Their team is leading, just five minutes left

:31:39. > :31:47.in the first half. There ever Commonwealth Games netball match for

:31:48. > :31:58.Scotland. -- it is their first ever. Again, good work by Connell. Good

:31:59. > :32:08.shooting stats for Scotland, 12 from 15 for Gallagher, 13 from 15 for

:32:09. > :32:18.McDonald's. Not bad at the other end either. -- MacDonald.

:32:19. > :32:45.Trapping the ball. That is awkward for MacDonald, has a good laugh. A

:32:46. > :32:58.bit of moisture on the court. Just have a look at this. She had a bit

:32:59. > :33:13.of help. Almost characterised the sevens competition. Good defence by

:33:14. > :33:37.Scotland. Communicating well. Starting to see more of Heron. A

:33:38. > :33:47.female -- Hayley Mulharen has impressed me.

:33:48. > :34:05.It is impressive from Scotland. All of the players on the defence so

:34:06. > :34:33.quickly. Nice option from Lawrenson. They are hanging in there, St Lucia.

:34:34. > :34:47.2716, the captain asks for more. -- 27-16. Mulharen does well, winning

:34:48. > :34:53.the throw. Limited options available for St Lucia in the second phase of

:34:54. > :34:59.the centre pass. Options for Scotland.

:35:00. > :35:11.What teeth think? Does the coach make changes, get more players out

:35:12. > :35:17.here for the first game? Does she want them to build? She knows the

:35:18. > :35:23.strength of the bench, equally you want to ensure your strongest seven

:35:24. > :35:28.get time on court to work through some of those early anxieties in a

:35:29. > :35:39.competition like this. Potentially we may see Cray -- Claire Brownlee

:35:40. > :36:14.in the goal defence position. 28-17. A chance for Scotland to add

:36:15. > :36:27.yet more. Justin really applying some pressure, but Connell just

:36:28. > :36:34.keeping her composure. Just good structure from Scotland, MacDonald

:36:35. > :36:41.working through to the post. Desperate to get the ball through

:36:42. > :36:46.the net. Not quite from MacDonald. She gets an elbow in the face at the

:36:47. > :36:56.same time. She is smiling, why would she not be? They lead St Lucia 29-17

:36:57. > :37:01.at half-time. Two very regular quarters, you could say.

:37:02. > :37:06.Absolutely, you get the sense that Scotland have managed to

:37:07. > :37:09.restructure, just taking a bit of pace off-the-ball at times. So good

:37:10. > :37:19.to see them enjoying the netball. Well done to Scotland on that

:37:20. > :37:25.encouraging first half performance. Almost getting to 30 points. We will

:37:26. > :37:33.go back for the start of the third quarter. Live coverage of the 2014

:37:34. > :37:37.Commonwealth Games from Glasgow. The friendly games, also the interactive

:37:38. > :37:43.games as far as the BBC is concerned. Get in touch, let us know

:37:44. > :37:55.what you think about the games. Any opinion on any of the sports. You

:37:56. > :38:18.can find us on Twitter, Facebook, also send us your temp --

:38:19. > :38:25.Commonwelfies. Earlier we saw Joe juice of England taking part in the

:38:26. > :38:49.super heavyweights for England. -- Joe Joyce. Let's go back and see

:38:50. > :39:03.another bout. Into round two, keen to get out of the gate and resume

:39:04. > :39:09.this contest. There may have to be a change of tactics. He was getting

:39:10. > :39:16.tagged by right hands coming from another neighbourhood. Raking right

:39:17. > :39:25.hands, plenty of leveraged, repeated, and Farr was forced to

:39:26. > :39:29.clench. He could well be walking onto another one of those right

:39:30. > :39:38.hands. He probably needs to change his tactics, getting up close,

:39:39. > :39:44.negating that long-range. Lights Out, boxing at range, the wrong

:39:45. > :39:50.thing to do. Gets caught, bringing the count. Farr had plenty of

:39:51. > :39:57.warnings, that right-hand is a danger punch. Round number two,

:39:58. > :40:05.finding himself on the canvas courtesy of the same shot once more.

:40:06. > :40:16.A good right hand from Farr, perhaps his best punch of the contest. His

:40:17. > :40:26.opponent is incredibly composed. The arcing sweep of the punches,

:40:27. > :40:36.continuing to find an inviting home on Junior Farr. He has to step in,

:40:37. > :40:48.work on close quarters. This is where he has two work. -- has to

:40:49. > :41:02.work. We probably need to see it changing tactic. Just a reminder, he

:41:03. > :41:11.has a live opponent, very experienced, completing for the

:41:12. > :41:30.British Lionhearts. Perhaps we can see him get tested. Farr has got to

:41:31. > :41:38.take advantage of those opportunities on the inside. Farr

:41:39. > :41:52.seems to be passed the worst of his worrying moments, brought about by

:41:53. > :41:57.that powerful right hand. If you are boxing out range against this man,

:41:58. > :42:06.you are literally one punch boxing out range against this man,

:42:07. > :42:12.from being knocked out. This guy is very good at long-range work. Still

:42:13. > :42:19.appearing composed and in control. Trying to get away from his man.

:42:20. > :42:25.Literally moving into range. His range is good to throw the right

:42:26. > :42:29.hand. Farr should be trying to get up close. This guy has been pretty

:42:30. > :43:01.effective with those long-range right hands. Again, another round in

:43:02. > :43:07.unanimous fashion. Just some running repairs required to the waistband on

:43:08. > :43:19.the trunks of Ajagiba. Wearing blue and representing Nigeria. He has

:43:20. > :43:22.boxed brilliantly. Dominated the first round, shot up junior Farr

:43:23. > :43:26.with a right-hand and then did so through the course of the round as

:43:27. > :43:34.well. That was a good right hand over the top from Farr. In the

:43:35. > :43:50.second round, Farr attempted to dodge about the ring, but Ajagiba

:43:51. > :43:55.landed a long-range right hook. Ajagiba only 20 years old. Has not

:43:56. > :44:14.even won a national title in Nigeria. Finds himself here in the

:44:15. > :44:20.Commonwealth Games. On the end of a right-hand once again, and another.

:44:21. > :44:26.Farr is making the job very easy for Ajagiba. He has adjusted his feet

:44:27. > :44:30.and is going back but it is allowing Ajagiba to box at range. It should

:44:31. > :44:37.be trying to step inside and work on the inside. He is probably not used

:44:38. > :44:41.to doing that. He has been so surprised oxime on the outside, he

:44:42. > :44:49.did not think he would be caught with these long-range shots but

:44:50. > :45:02.Ajagiba is very accurate with these long-range shots. He is very

:45:03. > :45:13.accurate, Farr. It is like looking at the famous Cuban. Very tall and

:45:14. > :45:21.with a reach as long as a mile, sometimes. The way he used to keep

:45:22. > :45:25.guys on the end of piston shots. Good right-hand got through them

:45:26. > :45:50.from Farr. It got the attention of Ajagiba. Very powerful shoulders on

:45:51. > :45:58.Ajagiba. When he is not at range, look at the length of his forearm.

:45:59. > :46:04.When he is not out range, and he can planned his feet and get that right

:46:05. > :46:13.hand over the top, it is a devastating shot as Farr can provide

:46:14. > :46:17.testimony to. This 20-year-old has proved to be a revelation in the

:46:18. > :46:23.opening bouts of these Commonwealth Games. It couldn't have been a worse

:46:24. > :46:32.start the Farr. But it continued with some good boxing from Ajagiba.

:46:33. > :46:36.Does not do a lot on the inside, the Nigerian, but is accurate with the

:46:37. > :46:43.right hand. He is going to be very difficult to beat. Try and box him

:46:44. > :46:58.at range, it is a problem. You have got to get in close. Ladies and

:46:59. > :47:02.gentlemen, the winner by unanimous decision and through to the next

:47:03. > :47:15.round, in the loop corner representing Nigeria... Ajagiba! --

:47:16. > :47:22.the blue corner. Show your appreciation to Farr. Ajagiba takes

:47:23. > :47:27.the applause from the Nigerian contingent in the crowd.

:47:28. > :47:34.Acknowledgements of a job well done. Keep up the reigning Commonwealth

:47:35. > :47:41.games bronze medallist, or now deposed Commonwealth Games bronze

:47:42. > :47:45.medallist out with some explosive long-range boxing. And the man who

:47:46. > :47:49.took Commonwealth bronze in Delhi four years ago has been eliminated

:47:50. > :47:57.in the opening round of the tournament by 20-year-old Ajagiba

:47:58. > :48:03.from Nigeria. Let's had back for the second half

:48:04. > :48:08.of the net all between Scotland and St Lucia. The score is unchanged.

:48:09. > :48:39.Let's hand you back to the commentary team.

:48:40. > :49:07.Good effort from Laurencin. Lesley MacDonald needs a couple of moments.

:49:08. > :49:14.All the things that must be in that little belt! It is amazing all of

:49:15. > :49:18.the things that go in there. I don't think there is a kitchen sink, but

:49:19. > :49:24.everything else. The faster you try to pull the tape, the slower it

:49:25. > :49:33.gets. Lesley MacDonald getting the fixing she needs. And very young net

:49:34. > :49:45.all fan. I don't think she is that interested. Great to see. Good first

:49:46. > :49:49.ball through from Claire Brownie to Leslie map Donald. Now she is

:49:50. > :49:59.playing in the attack. -- Lesley MacDonald. Loose from Forbes. She

:50:00. > :50:06.was off-balance and needed to get rid of it. She is in the thick of

:50:07. > :50:16.the action, Rachel Forbes. Grew up in Brisbane. Always there on the

:50:17. > :50:28.challenge, quick to recover. Very fast recovery to find her opponent.

:50:29. > :50:35.Work strong to deny. Laurencin always seems to find herself a bit

:50:36. > :50:52.of space. She says, put it high and I will get it. The own or McGrath to

:50:53. > :51:04.stand down. Roxanne Snyder lifts it. -- Fiona Moore-McGrath. Fine rebound

:51:05. > :51:11.by Rachel Forbes. Always strong on the positioning, Rachel Forbes. Very

:51:12. > :51:23.quick to support and great addition for the Scottish side, Rachel

:51:24. > :51:32.Forbes. Slight change of dynamic and speed of release with Claire Brownie

:51:33. > :51:42.in the centre. Compared to the Karin Connell and Samantha Murphy

:51:43. > :51:52.combination. Nice move by Lesley MacDonald. That is the view from the

:51:53. > :52:03.Scottish bench. They will be liking what they see at the moment. 32-18.

:52:04. > :52:16.Great ball. Roxanne Snyder at wing attack but St Lucia. The score just

:52:17. > :52:20.ticking along the St Lucia. At the moment, they are only keeping pace

:52:21. > :52:34.with the Scots. They cannot eat into this lead. Hayley Mulheron just

:52:35. > :52:41.calling down. Lynsey Gallagher calling down Murphy. Really once

:52:42. > :52:59.strong defence from the center pass. Claire Brownie all over Roxanne

:53:00. > :53:15.Snyder. That one was so high it hit the roof.

:53:16. > :53:27.That was dangerous from Roxanne Snyder. Good work again by Samantha

:53:28. > :53:37.Murphy. Keeps the width and uses the centre tunnel around the circle

:53:38. > :53:50.edge. She is just a bit late, Roxanne Snyder. Claire Brownie,

:53:51. > :54:06.pretty resilient. That's one not falling for Lesley MacDonald.

:54:07. > :54:16.Side by the St Lucia and wing defence. Some costly errors by St

:54:17. > :54:25.Lucia allowing Scotland to build on this lead. Fabulous leap by

:54:26. > :54:32.Laurencin. I would like to measure her elevation, it is impressive. She

:54:33. > :54:41.has just returned to the side from international volleyball duties in

:54:42. > :54:44.Puerto Rico. Some incredible arm span she has, the range

:54:45. > :54:50.Puerto Rico. Some incredible arm up the aerial ball. Strong challenge

:54:51. > :55:00.from St Lucia and they have one possession. Saphia William drawing a

:55:01. > :55:16.little bit of attention from the umpires.

:55:17. > :55:35.Good tracking their by Fiona Moore-McGrath. Onto the contact,

:55:36. > :55:45.Laurencin. Not even. How clever was that? The splits, the stand and the

:55:46. > :55:52.release. I don't know how she managed to do that. High, high ball

:55:53. > :56:21.from Roxanne Snyder. Laurencin, short shot. Let's look at

:56:22. > :56:26.what happened down the other end. It is extraordinary. Absolutely. And

:56:27. > :56:33.then able to deliver that safe ball through. St Lucia, another

:56:34. > :56:44.opportunity. Good work by Hayley Mulheron. Just keeping their

:56:45. > :57:06.composure, Scotland as they are getting a little bit of contact.

:57:07. > :57:12.Now, we have a situation here. Gallagher on the floor, calling

:57:13. > :57:22.time, Scotland in charge. A relatively similar margin to what we

:57:23. > :57:27.had at the break was trying to get her players to look down court, look

:57:28. > :57:58.further down the court as the ball into is the mid-court area.

:57:59. > :58:09.A big job ahead for Scotland, coming up against New Zealand tomorrow. It

:58:10. > :58:17.will be a Rafa wounded New Zealand, their pride, if nothing else. Sam

:58:18. > :58:24.Young supporters for Scotland, some great face painting in the crowd. I

:58:25. > :58:27.think that little one has had a big day, she delivered the ball, she

:58:28. > :58:41.won't sleep tonight. Scotland leading, just over six

:58:42. > :58:48.minutes left in the third quarter. Again a good structure, Scotland

:58:49. > :58:54.seem to understand, they have a clear game plan, good to see.

:58:55. > :59:17.MacDonald is such a playmaker. Denise Childs, with her hands behind

:59:18. > :59:24.her back. Some of those shots from MacDonald coming up short. Lack of

:59:25. > :59:33.concentration? I would say there was an element of fatigue.

:59:34. > :59:42.Naturally would be a goal shooter, has been doing a lot of work in the

:59:43. > :00:06.first half. Lovely shooting style from Gallagher. Forbes, again. Just

:00:07. > :00:11.getting it, Maxwell. Will they look for the big, long ball, Rachel

:00:12. > :00:26.Forbes caught a long way down the court. Forbes is in. Lawrenson

:00:27. > :00:31.recovering well. Options for St Lucia around the circle. They do

:00:32. > :00:38.rely on the long ball, they are mixing up their play, getting

:00:39. > :00:45.possession. Gallagher did not realise it was going to come right

:00:46. > :00:52.back. Such a strong commitment from Scotland to put on this defence, St

:00:53. > :00:58.Lucia and need to use the shortfall, breaking through the

:00:59. > :01:11.mid-court area. Good work by Schneider. That was clever. I am not

:01:12. > :01:17.totally sure that she stayed onside, it looks marvellous. Well read by

:01:18. > :01:37.Mulharen. A tight contest between Gallagher

:01:38. > :01:49.and Justin. She does not react, keeping that coolness. Some great

:01:50. > :01:57.shooting by Gallagher. That means when the pass is taken, it has to be

:01:58. > :02:06.taken in the mid-3rd. The call is, untouched.

:02:07. > :02:21.Outstanding from Gallagher. Impressive shooting display. Perhaps

:02:22. > :02:27.that one was lacking a bit of finesse. A good idea, MacDonald was

:02:28. > :02:38.back there. Just needed a bit more space, getting that one in their

:02:39. > :02:39.site a bit late. St Lucia struggling to get the ball through the

:02:40. > :03:06.mid-court. -- in her sights. It was too quick on that occasion.

:03:07. > :03:13.You have to get rid of the ball before you put your first foot on

:03:14. > :03:32.the floor again. Just over one minute left in the

:03:33. > :03:33.third. A good take by Mulharen. Kept a good body position to take the

:03:34. > :03:58.ball. Clyde is going for it. Gallagher

:03:59. > :04:00.trying to set the screen, the space opening up with MacDonald on the

:04:01. > :04:21.front position. Denise Childs may have to be

:04:22. > :04:26.careful, she has been warned about infringing. We saw in the New

:04:27. > :04:35.Zealand against Malawi game, one of the players sent to the side for

:04:36. > :04:42.just that. Good umpiring. There is no system in netball where you

:04:43. > :04:49.accumulate fouls. That is the way to police it. That is the three

:04:50. > :04:57.quarters time. You can did use from the Cheers, another good quarter for

:04:58. > :05:05.Scotland, leading St Lucia 41-23. Saint Lucia leak debris are yet to

:05:06. > :05:10.get into double figures for each quarter. They play some good

:05:11. > :05:14.netball, it is about the consistency, working harder

:05:15. > :05:20.off-the-ball, getting structure in the attacking unit. The aerial ball

:05:21. > :05:30.works to Lawrenson, she is a force to be reckoned with. It is how they

:05:31. > :05:35.position in relation to each other. Look at the tally is there.

:05:36. > :05:43.Defensively, Mulharen a key feature for Scotland. A look at the work of

:05:44. > :05:53.the two teams during the third quarter.

:05:54. > :06:08.A misunderstanding, Forbes very strong, but caught off-balance. That

:06:09. > :06:13.was spectacular. Incredible. I am not sure of the legality of that.

:06:14. > :06:16.The leg was moving. Fantastic though. We enjoy live, the crowd

:06:17. > :06:47.did, too. -- we enjoyed it. Connie Francis getting in there, a

:06:48. > :06:56.few handclaps, getting the players going.

:06:57. > :07:26.What can they bring to this final 15 minutes? Fiona McGrath is a police

:07:27. > :07:32.officer when not playing netball. Mulharen taking the position of goal

:07:33. > :07:42.defence. McNeill coming on as goal-tender. Carnal returning to the

:07:43. > :07:49.attacking spot. -- Connell. We have Joanne Pettitt at shooter. Scotland

:07:50. > :08:03.come away with it. Joanne Pettitt another youngster

:08:04. > :08:09.from the youth squad of last year. Some fabulous performances by her in

:08:10. > :08:19.the competition, good to see her on court making the movement of the

:08:20. > :08:27.full squad. -- to the full squad. Not a bad start. Always good to get

:08:28. > :08:33.a clean shot in the opening stages. She will be pleased with that. She

:08:34. > :08:44.has written down that her sporting idol is Usain Bolt, where better to

:08:45. > :08:49.meeting them here? -- better to meet him than here? Maxwell are electing

:08:50. > :09:38.to put it through to Lawrenson. I am sure that Connie Francis will

:09:39. > :09:43.want to look at St Lucia, and their build-up from the setter pass. The

:09:44. > :09:59.structure and the setup, to try and open up the court. Good jump from

:10:00. > :10:14.McNeill. Lawrenson ready to jump again in case it came out, but it

:10:15. > :10:22.didn't. Quick hands from Connell. Just a little fake, team even draw

:10:23. > :11:02.the defence. Finds Joanna Pettitt, she has entered the court well.

:11:03. > :11:16.pull that ball in. She has certainly come on full of energy. Laurencin is

:11:17. > :11:21.bundled out of sight. Karin Connell is always available. Always working

:11:22. > :11:49.so quick over those three strides at the center pass.

:11:50. > :12:19.Just a calm, did head of Joe Pettit. They like it, and well they might.

:12:20. > :12:24.Plenty of young talent in this Scottish side. How high is that?

:12:25. > :12:35.That was a big challenge the Laurencin. They will get the throw

:12:36. > :12:41.in, St Lucia. Feisty player, June McNeill. Always on the bounce,

:12:42. > :12:53.always on the hunt for any loose ball. Denise Charles takes a tumble.

:12:54. > :13:11.Roxanne Snyder contact means Scotland with the penalty. Good

:13:12. > :13:13.recovery by Fiona Moore-McGrath. Just losing her balance. Scotland

:13:14. > :13:25.keep possession. Claire Brownie, Just losing her balance. Scotland

:13:26. > :13:43.just put a couple of little toes over the line. It has to be over the

:13:44. > :13:50.line. On the line is all right. Certainly slowed their game down

:13:51. > :13:56.now, St Lucia. Definite change in pace. Whether that is fatigue or

:13:57. > :14:11.plan? Laurencin called for the contact. That was loose. So a chance

:14:12. > :14:30.the St Lucia. 20 goals between these two sides. Allowing lie ahead for St

:14:31. > :14:39.Lucia tomorrow. -- Malawi. Clever hand from Claire Brownie. Just

:14:40. > :14:45.showing the options, Scotland through this game. Different

:14:46. > :15:00.position all changes. Developing well as a squad. Stern words for

:15:01. > :15:14.Roxanne Snyder. Outstanding. Lynsey Gallagher!

:15:15. > :15:27.Young combination of shooters to Scotland, but not fazed by this

:15:28. > :15:41.level of competition. Good rebound by Pettitt. Scotland close in on the

:15:42. > :15:52.50 mark. Fiona Moore-McGrath, has gone to the sideline. I didn't

:15:53. > :16:03.see... Already hands going to their bids in the corner of your picture.

:16:04. > :16:10.There you go. Hand. Bit of ice being applied thereto Fiona Moore-McGrath.

:16:11. > :16:22.They will be pleased with this outing, Scotland. They have

:16:23. > :16:27.definitely entered the competition well. Impressive performance. They

:16:28. > :16:30.will be pleased with the results and it will allow them to move forward

:16:31. > :16:40.into the tougher competition with the confidence any squad would want

:16:41. > :16:45.to take with them. It is great to see the experience blending with

:16:46. > :16:53.youth. Really impressed with Pettitt, Lynsey Gallagher, that

:16:54. > :16:58.combination of shooters. Leslie Donald taking a breather, quite

:16:59. > :17:04.rightly so. She must be pleased as well to see some of these shooters

:17:05. > :17:13.coming through. It is a tough competition for both of these sides.

:17:14. > :17:20.For St Lucia tomorrow, Malawi, then Northern Ireland. Scotland have New

:17:21. > :17:28.Zealand tomorrow, Jamaica and then Malawi. And then a more local derby,

:17:29. > :17:36.Northern Ireland to finish. And probably no easy game in any of

:17:37. > :17:57.those. 49-27, Scotland league St Lucia. Seven minutes remaining. --

:17:58. > :18:08.lead. There we see a new shooter for Scotland. Gemma Sole. Another

:18:09. > :18:16.relative youngster. 23 years of age. Her father played rugby for

:18:17. > :18:24.Scotland. And also the British Lions as well. So a bit of sporting

:18:25. > :18:34.pedigree. Good start. Stronghold by Gemma Sole. Gets the goal.

:18:35. > :18:42.Interesting young woman, Gemma Sole, apparently she can speak three

:18:43. > :18:45.different languages. I think French would probably help her with St

:18:46. > :19:08.Lucia. After post, Hayley Mulheron. Away

:19:09. > :19:20.come Scotland. -- off the post. Great reactions by Hayley Mulheron.

:19:21. > :19:30.Quick to see the reaction. Another, 52-27, Scotland over St Lucia.

:19:31. > :19:36.Looking at this display, Scotland has something of a reservoir of up

:19:37. > :19:44.and coming shooters? Absolutely. It is great to see. Gail Parata will be

:19:45. > :19:53.pleased, as the coach for Scotland but they have given a good account

:19:54. > :20:01.of themselves. But it is a great scoreline, 53-27 to Scotland. June

:20:02. > :20:11.McNeill went for the rebound, just could not control it. Really can

:20:12. > :20:16.deny the space, June McNeill in the keeper's spot. We did see her taking

:20:17. > :20:22.some shots at half-time. It is about holding the ball in for June

:20:23. > :20:25.McNeill, and getting possession. Certainly can turn over the ball and

:20:26. > :20:46.force the errors. Teresa Spearing is very clear here,

:20:47. > :20:57.what she is doing. It is a warning for the wing defence. -- to Reza

:20:58. > :21:08.Prince. Right under the goal. Scotland march on. Into the final

:21:09. > :21:15.four minutes. Again, a good feed through to Laurencin. Lots of

:21:16. > :21:22.positive St Lucia can take from this performance, but equally they will

:21:23. > :21:25.be looking for more consistency moving forward. Pettitt found

:21:26. > :21:55.herself in open space. Can just see the two on one

:21:56. > :22:02.situation. Hayley Mulheron just working around, working around the

:22:03. > :22:09.body. Patients were cut by St Lucia. And they hit 30. Quick hands. For a

:22:10. > :22:28.moment I thought the goal was going to save them. Not so.

:22:29. > :22:42.You can see the disappointment on her face. Out of courts. It is the

:22:43. > :22:51.zone in the mid-court that has proved problematic for them. They

:22:52. > :22:58.will have two are just that. -- have tailored just that. Great work by

:22:59. > :23:20.these two young shooters for Scotland. Maxwell lives it the

:23:21. > :23:30.Laurencin. -- for Laurencin. Claire Brownie through the middle. Fine

:23:31. > :23:33.play Scotland. They finished with a flourish as we approach the final

:23:34. > :23:40.minute. Gail Parata enjoying this. So much space available for the

:23:41. > :23:45.shooter, the Gemma Sole. Big smile on her face. She will be pleased

:23:46. > :23:50.with this performance. Supported well by Karin Connell in the

:23:51. > :23:54.wingback position. Excellent all placement by Karin Connell

:23:55. > :24:00.throughout this game. Feeds are shooters well. -- feeds are shooters

:24:01. > :24:14.well. Young fans are lapping up this

:24:15. > :24:17.performance from Scotland. Great for the home

:24:18. > :24:22.performance from Scotland. Great for They start their commonwealth games

:24:23. > :24:30.netball journey, if you like, with a fine win. Would be superb if they

:24:31. > :24:35.could finish with a goal with 15 seconds on the clock. Tricky from

:24:36. > :24:46.Claire Brownie. They will have to be quick. This could be a great finish

:24:47. > :25:01.for Gemma Sole. Penalty. Comes up short. The pictures tell the story.

:25:02. > :25:08.The Scottish flag flies. Line when to Scotland over St Lucia, 58 -

:25:09. > :25:09.dirty and Scotland's first ever appearance in the netball of the

:25:10. > :25:16.Commonwealth Great debut performance. Their

:25:17. > :25:21.resurgence under their new coach continues. Time now for some

:25:22. > :25:30.artistry, agility and grace. It is not coming from me, but from the

:25:31. > :25:33.gymnastics. As far as home nations are concerned, you might want to

:25:34. > :25:38.look out for Laura Halford, from Wales. And her team-mate, Frankie

:25:39. > :25:43.Jones, who won silver four years ago. But here is a guide about all

:25:44. > :26:02.the things you need to know about the sport. In rhythmic gymnastics,

:26:03. > :26:11.athletes have to show artistic ability and technical ability by

:26:12. > :26:19.taking to the floor with apparatus. All rhythmic gymnasts are required

:26:20. > :26:25.to compete in the team competition. The top 16 gymnasts from the team

:26:26. > :26:32.event qualify for the individual final. Gymnasts performed four

:26:33. > :26:38.routines using one piece of apparatus each time. The top eight

:26:39. > :26:51.gymnasts from each apparat is in the team event also qualify for the

:26:52. > :27:11.individual apparat finals. -- apparat apparat -- apparatus finals.

:27:12. > :27:34.Laura Halford, the current British champion.

:27:35. > :28:25.Lovely combination of pivot, super handling. Jumps, leaps, the other

:28:26. > :28:32.important skill. That was a really very good performance. Didn't

:28:33. > :28:41.totally work with the apparatus, but was not waiting for it to arrive.

:28:42. > :28:52.Lovely heights on those leaps. Easy split, isn't it? She makes it look

:28:53. > :28:57.very easy. A difficulty of 6.7 in qualification, how has that stood

:28:58. > :29:05.up-to-date? Did she perform well enough? Only a tiny difference.

:29:06. > :29:13.Pushing her right up into the first spot. There are the judges, giving

:29:14. > :29:19.the scores. One panel for adding the difficulty up, another for taking

:29:20. > :29:28.marks of the ten. Getting a score out of 20. A gymnast who led the

:29:29. > :29:35.Canadian team to gold yesterday, scoring easily the highest. Of

:29:36. > :30:10.course today we start from scratch. This is her second apparatus.

:30:11. > :31:15.Much better. The opener in apparatus was very edgy. She found herself in

:31:16. > :31:24.fifth place, that was much more secure. The hours of practice all of

:31:25. > :31:27.this takes, working with choreographers, to make sure the

:31:28. > :31:45.routine flows cleverly. She is much happier, that is a

:31:46. > :31:49.massive score. Quite a bit higher than yesterday, 14.5. Francesca

:31:50. > :33:34.Jones from Wales. Beautifully expressive work. She was

:33:35. > :33:39.going so well, and we have seen her sometimes in the past falter at the

:33:40. > :33:51.end, but not there. A beautiful performance with the ball. A

:33:52. > :33:55.maturity, really coming into play. Able to perform and express herself

:33:56. > :34:03.at the same time. The hours and hours of training. They had to put

:34:04. > :34:17.it in to give a performance like this under pressure. She is edging

:34:18. > :34:18.towards the magic eight. Here is the standings after the first two

:34:19. > :34:34.pieces. The two Welsh gymnasts really

:34:35. > :34:35.pushing, they will have to be at their best to hold onto those

:34:36. > :35:35.positions. If gymnasts have the confidence to

:35:36. > :36:09.throw it that high, much easier to perform. A little error, that will

:36:10. > :36:18.be costly. One of her trademark pirouettes. Well, interestingly, the

:36:19. > :36:25.two apparatus she scored really highly on in qualification, she has

:36:26. > :36:38.made little errors today. Just a little toss, little loss of

:36:39. > :36:45.concentration. There is the difficult skill, easily done. That

:36:46. > :37:01.is the work that builds the difficulty score and impresses.

:37:02. > :37:14.15.5. It still puts her into the 15 is, that is a big school. -- the

:37:15. > :37:54.15s. The pressure is building for Frankie Jones.

:37:55. > :38:47.APPLAUSE. Wow, what a performance from Frankie

:38:48. > :38:56.Jones. The judges loved her yesterday, her best scores. Let's

:38:57. > :39:01.hope they love it today as well. Such a distinctive style, this

:39:02. > :39:07.routine. Making it her own, and that is the secret when you are

:39:08. > :39:11.experienced and mature. This is her final Commonwealth Games, her third.

:39:12. > :39:24.She was delighted with that. So with the audience. 6.80 difficulty. 7.9

:39:25. > :39:31.the execution. Propelling her into second spot. Laura Halford

:39:32. > :39:37.representing Wales, the British champion. She knows she has to be at

:39:38. > :39:42.their best to stay in contention for a medal. -- she has two be at her

:39:43. > :41:04.best. So difficult, both clubs high in the

:41:05. > :41:11.air. Fabulous shape. Final throw and trap, lots of confidence, really

:41:12. > :41:16.great routine. Wow, three apparatus, both of the Welsh girls

:41:17. > :41:25.have been absolutely stunning on all three pieces. Very strong. Just a

:41:26. > :41:36.little tiny loss of control on that pivot. Both clubs take such a lot of

:41:37. > :41:38.skill to know exactly where it is going to come down. That was

:41:39. > :42:18.delightful. Very nice pirouette. Finished

:42:19. > :43:42.beautifully. Impressive. Very fluent. Very easy.

:43:43. > :43:47.The extension out of the hold. Did not let the leg flop down. High

:43:48. > :44:23.difficulty score. For the final time in this arena,

:44:24. > :44:30.Lauren Brash, representing Scotland in the Commonwealth games. And

:44:31. > :45:44.produces, with a flourish, a beautiful pirouette.

:45:45. > :45:48.What a super performance to finished with. She has had a great

:45:49. > :45:59.Championships, great Commonwealth Games. 15 years of age. Scotland's

:46:00. > :46:11.top gymnast. She was secure, real flourish to finish. Even time for a

:46:12. > :46:24.little kiss before the final role. And there is a score. Puts her first

:46:25. > :46:33.at the moment. She needs a picture of the scoreboard. Francesca Jones

:46:34. > :47:56.for Wales, knows this has to be perfect.

:47:57. > :48:21.Fantastic. She is such a well-prepared gymnast. Supple and

:48:22. > :48:26.strong. Well-trained. Up on the toes for everything. That was the little

:48:27. > :48:31.wobble at the beginning. She put that behind her and did some

:48:32. > :48:41.fabulous work. Very fluent, very stylish. Beautiful bodywork. So

:48:42. > :48:46.expressive. 23 now and full of experience. She really has given

:48:47. > :49:01.this her best shot. Francesca Jones and Laura Halford

:49:02. > :49:06.have battled all year. Laura Halford got the better of the British

:49:07. > :49:13.Championships. Laura Halford here representing Wales. If she can work

:49:14. > :49:35.a clean routine, there is a chance of a medal.

:49:36. > :50:48.What a strong, confident, purposeful routine that was. She really has

:50:49. > :50:56.instilled confidence in this competition. She has never looked

:50:57. > :51:02.like putting a foot wrong. She has obviously got an absolutely great

:51:03. > :51:09.competition temperament. Plenty of determination. Not a thought in her

:51:10. > :51:18.mind she wasn't going to succeed. Stretched it out a little bit there

:51:19. > :51:33.to make the catch. Lovely extension. This is going to be very

:51:34. > :51:43.close. But both the Welsh gymnasts have worked extremely impressive

:51:44. > :52:02.routines. Here we are. She goes in behind Frankie Jones. They are lying

:52:03. > :52:10.first and second at the moment. The Canadian. The leader in qualifying.

:52:11. > :53:37.Bits of in and out performances today.

:53:38. > :53:46.performance with the ribbon. She needs to use for more than 12.9, she

:53:47. > :53:53.needs 13, to take the gold. I think we would expect her to manage that.

:53:54. > :53:56.She made a couple of errors early on, but the Canadian

:53:57. > :54:00.She made a couple of errors early on, but crowd are thrilled. We have

:54:01. > :54:07.really seen a feast of gymnastics. There is the Welsh gymnast, looking

:54:08. > :54:19.along anxiously. There is the unusual star, ribbon wrapped around

:54:20. > :54:33.her face. She is a fabulous gymnast. Really strong. Really well-trained.

:54:34. > :54:42.She was two marks ahead in qualification. Has not been quite so

:54:43. > :54:45.dominant today. But this was a beautiful ribbon exercise. It was

:54:46. > :55:01.her weakest score in qualification. 13.75, but she just needs 13 to take

:55:02. > :55:06.the gold medal. And with that catch, she knew she had done enough. She

:55:07. > :55:19.sits with her coach and there it is. Massive score. It gives her the

:55:20. > :55:22.all-around gold medal. Two highly delighted gymnasts from Wales.

:55:23. > :55:29.Frankie Jones takes the silver and Laura Halford the bronze medal. What

:55:30. > :55:34.an achievement for Welsh gymnastics. Silver medal last night and silver

:55:35. > :55:43.and bronze medal today. Lots of Welsh support in the crowd. But it

:55:44. > :55:55.is the Canadian who is the champion. She is a fabulous gymnast. A

:55:56. > :56:25.tremendous competition this has been. Here we see confirmation.

:56:26. > :56:32.gymnastics. Wonderful for Frankie Jones, her third Commonwealth Games.

:56:33. > :56:49.So the individual silver on the Hoops last time.

:56:50. > :56:56.That was the rhythmic gymnastics which took place earlier this
