:00:43. > :00:49.Hello and a very warm welcome to the city they call the dear green place.

:00:50. > :00:52.Last ago 2014 is well into its stride. Yesterday, the home nations

:00:53. > :00:56.continued where they left off on day one, with medals in the pool,

:00:57. > :01:07.velodrome, and domination on the judo mat.

:01:08. > :01:18.Joanna Rowsell wins goal for England! Have we really got another

:01:19. > :01:27.gold medal. And? Daniel Wallace, the new Commonwealth champion. -- gold

:01:28. > :01:29.medal for Scotland. A wall of noise around the arena! It is gold, for

:01:30. > :01:45.Scotland! And it is all over! Danny Williams

:01:46. > :01:53.wins the gold medal explanation mark -- gold medal! He has got it,

:01:54. > :01:57.fantastic swim and the first gold medal for England in the summing

:01:58. > :02:27.pool, and it is then proud. -- swimming pool.

:02:28. > :02:36.Not a good day for Wales yesterday but they managed silver and bronze

:02:37. > :02:40.in the rhythmic gymnastics. It was a remarkable day, with tears of joy

:02:41. > :02:44.and disappointment across all sports and venues. More of the same today,

:02:45. > :02:48.I reckon. We might still be wiping the sleep from our eyes and I can

:02:49. > :02:51.tell you we are but many of the competitors and people, the

:02:52. > :02:55.audience, have been up with the lark. The competitors have been

:02:56. > :03:00.getting together and working out for their first encounters of the day.

:03:01. > :03:03.At Kelvingrove, it is women's singles bowls, Caroline Brown taking

:03:04. > :03:11.on Kelsey Cottrell of Australia in that one. And at the Emirates, the

:03:12. > :03:16.badminton is underway, Jersey taking on Northern Ireland.

:03:17. > :03:22.Plenty happening on day three of Glasgow 2014. This is what is

:03:23. > :03:28.happening on BBC Three between now and lunch time. First up, it is a

:03:29. > :03:31.massive match in net ball. Australia have aurally tipped themselves to

:03:32. > :03:38.win the competition and England will be looking to take them down a peg

:03:39. > :03:43.or three. Another day of drama lies in store at the velodrome. We will

:03:44. > :03:49.be joining Dame Sarah Storey, Sir Chris Hoy and Jonathan are little

:03:50. > :03:54.later on. Rugby sevens gets underway at Ibrox and we will be taking in as

:03:55. > :04:07.the big guns get ready to fire. -- checking in.

:04:08. > :04:09.they are gearing up for the rhythmic gymnastics. The red

:04:10. > :04:13.they are gearing up for the rhythmic this morning is hockey but other

:04:14. > :04:18.streams may be available depending on your provider, so blessed --

:04:19. > :04:21.press red and then blew for options because you may be able to choose

:04:22. > :04:27.bowls or badminton. And as always, the website is the

:04:28. > :04:28.bowls or badminton. And as always, things Commonwealth Games. You will

:04:29. > :04:34.find streams of all sports right there. Live hockey is happening at

:04:35. > :04:41.Glasgow Green just now, about two miles down that way. It is Zimbabwe

:04:42. > :04:46.against New Zealand, sorry, New Zealand against Trinidad Tobago

:04:47. > :04:50.right now. Yesterday, there was lots of action involving a few of the

:04:51. > :05:03.home nations, with varying success and disappointment for both of them.

:05:04. > :05:13.COMMENTATOR: Goal number one, for India! Just putting the ball

:05:14. > :05:18.beautifully in the corner. Here he is, driving it into the circle and

:05:19. > :05:24.gets a touch and what a goal! Oh my goodness, Wales have scored against

:05:25. > :05:34.India. What a moment, the second goal for India. Singh. They have a

:05:35. > :05:41.real chance, now. It is the third goal! Exquisite score from the

:05:42. > :05:56.circle, making it 3-1. Cronje will take this, for South

:05:57. > :06:02.Africa. And he scores! South Africa, 1-0, Scotland. Dangerous, again,

:06:03. > :06:07.South Africa. Looking for a way through. Scotland will have to be

:06:08. > :06:10.careful but it is put away, the softest of goals in the end for the

:06:11. > :06:36.South Africans. Goal number one, Australia! It has

:06:37. > :06:40.taken 12 minutes for them to do it. Here it goes, now, fast and hard

:06:41. > :06:45.Anna Flanagan gets a go. It is up in the air and again lifted. A shot at

:06:46. > :06:55.goal and she should get it! Yes, the second goal. Cairney with a shot at

:06:56. > :06:59.Scholes and that is a boomer. Trouble now as they steam towards

:07:00. > :07:02.the goal, in front, and there is the fourth goal. You could almost sense

:07:03. > :07:10.it building from Australia. Another variation coming here. And it is the

:07:11. > :07:19.fifth goal. Intercepted to easily. It is a chance and easily scored,

:07:20. > :07:25.Australia's six. Now a drive into the circle and a free shot at goal

:07:26. > :07:31.and it is a super, super finish. Gets onto the stick, vary again and

:07:32. > :07:35.that is a magic finish. What a goal. -- vary again. Reverse stick, slap

:07:36. > :07:41.at goal and it is goal number nine. It is the angle across, and it

:07:42. > :07:59.finishes 9-0. Ralph, once more. Oh, dear. Would

:08:00. > :08:02.you believe it? It has almost gone in and then a complete mess at the

:08:03. > :08:10.top of the circle but finally a goal exclusion Mark -- a goal! That is a

:08:11. > :08:16.good path around the back, here, now, really good opportunity. It has

:08:17. > :08:24.gone in, I'm not sure how, but it has.

:08:25. > :08:29.We want you to share your Commonwealth experiences with us by

:08:30. > :08:40.sending us a Commonwelfie. Send it with a hashtag. Remember the

:08:41. > :08:44.Australian hockey player who managed to get one with the Queen in the

:08:45. > :08:49.background? See if you can bet that. David Turnbull has sent this one.

:08:50. > :08:55.Look at that, very nice. Who else have we got? This is Michael

:08:56. > :09:00.Douglas, sending us is photographed. This is how he is getting on,

:09:01. > :09:06.wearing his at. Next up, who have we got? This is Robin Scott, clearly

:09:07. > :09:17.having a wonderful, wonderful time at Glasgow 2014.

:09:18. > :09:22.I wonder what team Simon is supporting? Good to see it. We will

:09:23. > :09:27.be building up to the vital netball match which starts at 9:30am,

:09:28. > :09:30.Australia, the dominant -- dominant force in Commonwealth Games netball,

:09:31. > :09:33.against England to have beaten them already in the last year but next

:09:34. > :09:37.up, we are talking Rugby sevens. It begins today. Let's give you a

:09:38. > :09:42.history lesson with a reporter I hope you like.

:09:43. > :09:48.Rugby is a hard game, not for the faint-hearted. And in the

:09:49. > :09:52.Commonwealth Games, it is made even harder with just seven players on

:09:53. > :09:59.the pitch. Rugby sevens is a truly international sport, played all over

:10:00. > :10:04.the world. But it all began here, in Melrose, a sleepy market town in the

:10:05. > :10:09.Scottish Borders. Rugby players are traditionally a beefy breed. So the

:10:10. > :10:15.genesis of the seven aside game is particularly appropriate.

:10:16. > :10:22.Good morning. How are you doing? I believe there is a connection

:10:23. > :10:27.between this butchers and sevens rugby. Tell me about it. In 1883,

:10:28. > :10:32.David Stander seven and Ned hate, who worked in the shop and played

:10:33. > :10:37.rugby at Melrose decided to organise a rugby tournament. They shortened

:10:38. > :10:45.the game to seven minutes at half, with seven players. So they could

:10:46. > :10:48.fit it in one day. Today marks the 124th Melrose sevens, still played

:10:49. > :10:54.at the Greenyards, just as it has been since the very first

:10:55. > :10:58.tournament. This is the original trophy they competed for, back in

:10:59. > :11:04.1883, presented by the ladies of Melrose. And it was hard fought

:11:05. > :11:11.for. Melrose against their local, better rivals in the final. Melrose

:11:12. > :11:16.were victorious that day. From then on, it became clear the two butchers

:11:17. > :11:19.had hit on a winning formula. From its humble birth in the Borders of

:11:20. > :11:25.Scotland, the game's popularity grew with fans and players. This

:11:26. > :11:29.fascinating Game seven a side rugby is becoming very popular. By the

:11:30. > :11:35.1970s, sevens played internationally. This is magic

:11:36. > :11:42.stuff! Fans and players could not get enough of this game.

:11:43. > :11:49.Teams come from all over the world to play at Melrose. They come from

:11:50. > :11:56.as far afield as the USA and Trinidad Tobago. What is it about

:11:57. > :12:06.sevens rugby that you love so much? The speed, the flare, everything. It

:12:07. > :12:11.is awesome. Feeding it to Scott Hastings, magnificent support by the

:12:12. > :12:14.International Centre. Everywhere you go, everyone loves sevens, they love

:12:15. > :12:17.the atmosphere, the brilliance of the game, the skill level and the

:12:18. > :12:21.fitness of the players at the upper echelons, which is really to be

:12:22. > :12:22.admired. I think it is one of the box office sports going forward in

:12:23. > :12:34.the future. Rugby sevens' popularity is

:12:35. > :12:39.continuing to grow globally. It will be played at the 2016 Rio Olympics

:12:40. > :12:46.by men and women. Not bad for a sport that was invented by two

:12:47. > :12:50.butchers in the Borders. Invented in a sleepy border town,

:12:51. > :12:54.Melrose, sent around the world and now it is back in bars go. Look,

:12:55. > :12:58.there is a fellow loitering with intent, Andy Nicol, the former

:12:59. > :13:02.Scotland captain. Let's walk away from all these people and talk about

:13:03. > :13:06.this competition. The anticipation beforehand because New Zealand have

:13:07. > :13:08.been so dominant in this sport and especially at the Commonwealth

:13:09. > :13:12.Games. The Commonwealth Games. Here yes, there have only been four

:13:13. > :13:15.Commonwealth Games where rugby sevens as been a sport and they have

:13:16. > :13:19.won it every time and never lost a match. They are favourites but rugby

:13:20. > :13:23.sevens is a sport that can go very quickly. There's a few other

:13:24. > :13:27.countries, maybe four or five, who genuinely have a chance. England's

:13:28. > :13:35.definitely think they have got a chance and Scotland are in New

:13:36. > :13:38.Zealand's group with Canada. It very tough. Scotland have got a tough

:13:39. > :13:44.group and Canada is probably the key game. England will fancy their

:13:45. > :13:48.chances. Wales won the Rugby sevens World Cup in 2009 and no one thought

:13:49. > :13:52.that was possible. You can see that there is evidence that rugby sevens,

:13:53. > :13:56.it does not always work out that the favourites when. It is going to be a

:13:57. > :13:59.fantastic two days. Those of you who don't really know rugby sevens, it

:14:00. > :14:03.is a different game, only seven players on the pitch and the big,

:14:04. > :14:09.beefy players don't really get a showing. It is a different kind of

:14:10. > :14:13.athlete. Yes, and when I played, it was quick and fit guys who went in

:14:14. > :14:14.the sevens, and some of the big guys in the backs might go in the

:14:15. > :14:47.forwards. Now it is... COMMENTATOR: The game is slowly

:14:48. > :14:56.slipping away. This is a little chance to add some pressure, lying

:14:57. > :15:04.two. One thing in singles, you never run out of

:15:05. > :15:07.two. One thing in singles, you never time, perhaps. -- out of ends. She

:15:08. > :15:09.needs to come in and make this account, just to put the pressure on

:15:10. > :15:45.Caroline. Overcooked, slightly. You would think there is plenty of

:15:46. > :15:55.chance to draw. If she You would think there is plenty of

:15:56. > :15:59.this went in, it would do her confidence a lot of good.

:16:00. > :16:05.this went in, it would do her fewer runs in a row and your

:16:06. > :16:17.confidence lifts. So quickly, it can change. She needs to miss that front

:16:18. > :16:36.one. But the -- she does not want it to go too far either.

:16:37. > :16:50.Apologies, we lost our camera link during Andy Nickell giving us his

:16:51. > :16:58.words of wisdom. We were talking about this rugby sevens competition.

:16:59. > :17:08.How good are these teams? England are very good. The likes of Sri

:17:09. > :17:15.Lanka, Uganda, will certainly not trouble England or Australia. The

:17:16. > :17:22.big teams will get through to the second day and you will see much

:17:23. > :17:27.closer games. Wales are clearly brilliant at the 15th game but they

:17:28. > :17:32.have not shown much in the sevens. They won the sevens World Cup and

:17:33. > :17:40.nobody thought that would happen but they have got the players playing

:17:41. > :17:46.regularly on the IRB circuit. They have some really good young players.

:17:47. > :17:56.They see that as a breeding ground for their next players, as many

:17:57. > :17:59.countries do. You could certainly fancy Wales to get through the

:18:00. > :18:11.group. Without a doubt, they will come out of that group. That first

:18:12. > :18:15.game will be a cracking game. It is all about getting onto the next day

:18:16. > :18:22.and who you might want to avoid, New Zealand, people will want to avoid

:18:23. > :18:30.because they are that good. If Wales win that game of theirs, they avoid

:18:31. > :18:36.New Zealand. Scotland did very well two months ago, bringing in some of

:18:37. > :18:44.the core players from Glasgow and Edinburgh. They have a tough group,

:18:45. > :18:48.New Zealand, Canada and Barbados. The Canada game is the key game for

:18:49. > :18:55.Scotland. They will struggle against New Zealand. So if they can beat

:18:56. > :18:59.Canada, anything can happen. The Scots have brought in some players

:19:00. > :19:04.that have made a real difference. They got to the semifinal of the

:19:05. > :19:09.cup. They lost back and in effect, they played the bronze medal match.

:19:10. > :19:14.They know that in this environment and in this city, the Scotland team

:19:15. > :19:19.has done well. I would probably have them as an outside chance. It is all

:19:20. > :19:24.about the Canada game for Scotland. They give themselves a chance if

:19:25. > :19:30.they win that. I think New Zealand, Gold. And South Africa and England

:19:31. > :19:41.as well. We will turn our attention to that

:19:42. > :19:48.crucial netball match, England against Australia. Earlier, we sent

:19:49. > :19:51.out Dan Walker to follow the England side as they took on Wales and they

:19:52. > :20:02.took them on and hammered them. This is netball, two home nations

:20:03. > :20:20.taking on each other, England against Wales. This gets England's

:20:21. > :20:35.campaign underway. Lovely skill. Corbin scores another goal. Just

:20:36. > :20:44.caught fairly wide and close. Harton makes another mistake from distance.

:20:45. > :20:52.A better shot there. Getting plenty of height. England have dominated

:20:53. > :20:58.Wales, who have struggled to find their shooting skills. England

:20:59. > :21:05.showing everybody why they are third in the world, leading Wales by 17-7.

:21:06. > :21:10.We know they will come out harder now. Just make sure everything we do

:21:11. > :21:13.including our centre pass is all clean through. Just bringing that

:21:14. > :21:32.ball through. It is this second phase of the

:21:33. > :21:33.centre pass. Credit to Wales, the pressure is on. Strong communication

:21:34. > :21:50.from Prichard. Heart and trying to find to shooting

:21:51. > :21:55.partner and she does. Great turn of speed from Corbin, using that

:21:56. > :22:04.goal-line run. She should score and she does. England firmly in control.

:22:05. > :22:14.They lead 29-10. England leading comfortably at half-time.

:22:15. > :22:39.England lead by 21 now. England just putting a lot of pressure on the

:22:40. > :22:47.second phase of the Welsh centre pass, just letting that first ball

:22:48. > :22:58.go out. Great take. Lovely play from Harten.

:22:59. > :23:07.Straight into the hands of Bayman. Going through one of those rocky

:23:08. > :23:16.patches in the game aren't we? Handling errors. Interesting from

:23:17. > :23:24.Corbin. Harten, she is through. The lead is now 28. England's best

:23:25. > :23:29.quarter so far. It is another dominant quarter for England. The

:23:30. > :23:37.scoreline is heavily in England's favour.

:23:38. > :23:46.I present to you the one and only, super, Kevin Francis! The leaps and

:23:47. > :23:54.bounds she has made in his sport is great. Apparently I am perfectly

:23:55. > :24:01.suited for netball. I would imagine you are the same? Robert Lee netball

:24:02. > :24:10.or basketball. -- probably netball or basketball.

:24:11. > :24:33.After the third quarter, England lead of 48-15.

:24:34. > :24:43.Good work there. Good play. Great transition through the court from

:24:44. > :24:45.Wales. A deserved goal. They will be pleased with that

:24:46. > :24:54.Wales. A deserved goal. They will be particularly through the mid-court

:24:55. > :24:58.area. Clearly, their coach will want to get the match won before

:24:59. > :25:03.tinkering with their side. That is the end of the match. England have

:25:04. > :25:13.put Wales to the sword. They have beaten them comfortably. Final

:25:14. > :25:18.score: England 65-25 Wales. England have been dominant over Wales but

:25:19. > :25:26.the big one is on the way tomorrow. Australia. We have the sisters, the

:25:27. > :25:33.England sisters, the Corbin sisters. How was that for you? It was

:25:34. > :25:40.amazing. A great feeling. It was our first one. I think we started

:25:41. > :25:45.strong. I thought we built throughout the game. There are a few

:25:46. > :25:51.things we need to tweak on but happy I got to play with my sister. We

:25:52. > :25:58.need to apologise, apparently we were talking to your dad and we got

:25:59. > :26:06.a message saying, Stacey wanted down to watch her play netball. I was

:26:07. > :26:13.aware he was in the audience. I started to search for him and at the

:26:14. > :26:21.end of the game, I ran over to him and I started crying which is

:26:22. > :26:33.pathetic! The netball is happening behind us over there.

:26:34. > :26:42.I have gone away and had a baby and I don't really want to come back and

:26:43. > :26:45.do the training. Certainly a great start against Wales. They were

:26:46. > :26:51.really composed and they got start against Wales. They were

:26:52. > :26:57.done yesterday. Australia have dominated for such a long time. How

:26:58. > :27:02.competitive can they be against the Aussies? Ten years ago,

:27:03. > :27:05.competitive can they be against the started playing, we were getting

:27:06. > :27:11.beaten by the Aussies all the time, we are now beating them. This team

:27:12. > :27:14.is good enough. But the quality the Australians have in terms of week in

:27:15. > :27:17.week out competition, under pressure, that is what

:27:18. > :27:24.week out competition, under got. England have to take it to the

:27:25. > :27:30.Aussies. Australia have been struggling recently as well. We used

:27:31. > :27:36.to be scared of Australian sides. You have got five players in the

:27:37. > :27:38.England side that are playing out in Australia and New Zealand and they

:27:39. > :27:45.know these players. It is a fantastic position to be in. This is

:27:46. > :27:51.clearly fantastic for Scotland and just around the corner from England

:27:52. > :27:55.so lots of home support. The biggest buzz yesterday was for the Scottish

:27:56. > :28:00.bills and rightly so. They have improved massively as well for this

:28:01. > :28:04.competition. At the support is there. So many people have been

:28:05. > :28:10.tweeting and trying to get tickets. Netball as a sport is growing. A

:28:11. > :28:14.great experience, playing in a couple of Commonwealth Games. How

:28:15. > :28:21.big a deal is it for these girls to be at the Commonwealth Games? It is

:28:22. > :28:25.massive. This is our four year cycle, this is the third year of the

:28:26. > :28:32.cycle when you go to the World Cup next year. The Commonwealth Games is

:28:33. > :28:37.our Olympics. It would be great if they could beat Australia! I will be

:28:38. > :28:46.jumping up and down. This is massive. It has never been done in a

:28:47. > :28:52.big competition, taken down the two big guns, New Zealand and Australia.

:28:53. > :28:56.I believe they can get there, yes. Prediction? I think it will be

:28:57. > :29:01.close, I think if England really want a shot at the goal, this is the

:29:02. > :29:12.time to beat them. I think England will beat them by five. Tamsin is

:29:13. > :29:16.going to have to sprint to the five live commentary team. It is England

:29:17. > :29:49.against Australia. COMMENTATOR: Fabulous shot there,

:29:50. > :29:55.the determination of this Australian side. They want to win this

:29:56. > :30:05.competition so badly. Four years earlier in Melbourne, they did.

:30:06. > :30:22.This stadium is moving. ANNOUNCER: Team Australia!

:30:23. > :31:07.Laura Geitz! And head coach, Lisa Alexander! Team England! Goal

:32:01. > :32:06.11-year-old Katie, from Cambridge. COMMENTATOR: Australia will have the

:32:07. > :32:10.first and about in this all-important pool B clash,

:32:11. > :32:16.Australia against England. -- will have the first centre pass.

:32:17. > :32:39.Green at wing attack for the match. And an early mess. Not ideal for a

:32:40. > :32:49.shooter, they like to land their first one.

:32:50. > :32:57.She has little, I think, Sasha Corbin, at wing attack. -- has

:32:58. > :33:02.flipped. She was just slightly anxious in her movement around the

:33:03. > :33:09.circle. Already, Geva Mentor, asserting herself at the defensive

:33:10. > :33:14.end, for England. And I think Tegan Caldwell is in for a big game. She

:33:15. > :33:17.looks sharp already. She has taken a couple of balls strongly and is very

:33:18. > :33:23.strong on the move. She is in fine form.

:33:24. > :33:45.Jade Clarke, the skipper. Test number 100, for her. Sasha Corbin,

:33:46. > :33:48.marked closely by Ravaillon, just affecting the movement through to

:33:49. > :33:59.goal, for England. A good take by Jo Harten. Alan Howes B, the young,

:34:00. > :34:03.exciting shooter, for England. She made her first cap in the previous

:34:04. > :34:14.game against Wales. That is a good win for the English defence.

:34:15. > :34:18.Geva Mentor oozes confidence through the England side, particularly with

:34:19. > :34:35.games like that. -- gains like that. Jo Harten has been in good form. She

:34:36. > :34:37.has taken her game to another level. She is so key for this England

:34:38. > :34:49.side. She is really strong. That was a great role by Sasha

:34:50. > :34:54.Corbin. She just needs to move herself through into the second

:34:55. > :34:56.phase of the centre pass. Alan Dunne, picking off the ball at that

:34:57. > :35:30.stage. -- Hallinan. They are on song, this English

:35:31. > :35:32.defence. They are working nicely as a unit. I wondered how Beckford

:35:33. > :35:36.Chambers would a unit. I wondered how Beckford

:35:37. > :35:42.budget looks pretty comfortable. She has a nice understanding with Geva

:35:43. > :35:45.Mentor and Jade Clarke. They are such a great trio for England,

:35:46. > :35:59.strong communication at the back from Geva Mentor.

:36:00. > :36:05.Chatfield, caught on application but I think she is working nicely on

:36:06. > :36:12.Corbin, making her work, sticking to her nice and tightly.

:36:13. > :36:16.I guess the Australians will be well aware there is a lot of pressure on

:36:17. > :36:22.her, coming into the side in Pamela Cookey's place. They were not too

:36:23. > :36:26.unhappy about Pamela Cookey's absence, I can tell

:36:27. > :36:31.unhappy about Pamela Cookey's from Sasha Corbin, -- great link.

:36:32. > :36:36.She went through to Jo Harten. They have worked hard on that,

:36:37. > :36:36.She went through to Jo Harten. They particularly against strong

:36:37. > :36:52.defence. Beckford Too much on that one from Jo

:36:53. > :36:54.Harten. You just get a sense that Kadeen Corbin is getting wrapped up

:36:55. > :37:06.in the body of Chatfield. drawing her out. Excellent recovery.

:37:07. > :37:12.That is sloppy from Australia. You don't often see that from Laura

:37:13. > :37:16.Geitz. And they are made to play. Good pressure early on. She normally

:37:17. > :37:22.takes a few minutes to settle into the game. That error came from the

:37:23. > :37:26.pressure you feel in a big game. Australia, changing up the defence,

:37:27. > :37:28.dropping into the circle and picking up

:37:29. > :37:38.dropping into the circle and picking ineffective on this occasion. And

:37:39. > :37:39.look at the competition between Guthrie and Green.

:37:40. > :37:44.look at the competition between pushing Green side. Good challenge

:37:45. > :38:01.by Geva Mentor. We are just starting to see Kadeen

:38:02. > :38:03.Corbin out more now for the first ball at the centre pass, for

:38:04. > :38:11.England. ball at the centre pass, for

:38:12. > :38:14.Harten. And that is the kind of style we have seen from her. A lot

:38:15. > :38:18.of shooters can only shoot under the of shooters can only shoot under the

:38:19. > :38:21.posts but generally, if she gets the ball midrange, Jo Harten goes for

:38:22. > :38:22.the posts. You cannot ball midrange, Jo Harten goes for

:38:23. > :38:31.defending her near the posts. much space in the attack. -- called

:38:32. > :38:37.well. She is so strong much space in the attack. -- called

:38:38. > :38:53.through the top of the circle. Jade Clarke there, not tempted to

:38:54. > :38:59.put the long ball through to Kadeen Corbin in the circle. Great work.

:39:00. > :39:04.Look at Jo Harten, right round the top of the circle. Both Corbin

:39:05. > :39:11.sisters coming into the game a little bit more, now. Cheeky from Jo

:39:12. > :39:12.Harten. It must have been dangerously close to a held ball but

:39:13. > :39:22.she gets away with it. Great pressure by Jade Clarke on

:39:23. > :39:26.Kimberlee Green around the edge of the circle, tracking extremely

:39:27. > :39:31.well. They are blocking the edge of the circle really well, a good

:39:32. > :39:41.combination going. There is no easy way in for Australia.

:39:42. > :39:52.Halfway through the first quarter, England hanging on to their lead.

:39:53. > :39:57.In past years, we have seen England get themselves into this kind of

:39:58. > :40:03.position but so often, they have not been able to maintain it. Is this

:40:04. > :40:07.the kind of thing that might? It is time to expect that, now, given that

:40:08. > :40:12.a lot of these athletes and players have been down under, playing in the

:40:13. > :40:17.ANZ, where the pressure is on every week. That was often what was

:40:18. > :40:22.missed, keeping the consistency. We can see a knee Beckford Chambers,

:40:23. > :40:24.there, challenging. It is about 60 minutes of quality netball. Let's

:40:25. > :40:32.hope this game continues right through. Using her body well at the

:40:33. > :40:39.moment, Bassett, holding off Geva Mentor. She is an interesting

:40:40. > :40:47.player, Bassett, does not shine in the ANZ so much but stands up on

:40:48. > :40:54.international duty. She came into form at the 2011 World Championships

:40:55. > :40:59.and has not looked back since. That is sometimes the toughest for Kadeen

:41:00. > :41:02.Corbin. She is on a high work rate and then she needs to settle for the

:41:03. > :41:16.shot. A missed opportunity, for England. Quick on the defence.

:41:17. > :41:23.the moment, Guthrie and Ravaillon. They are running with each other all

:41:24. > :41:29.the way. She was not expecting that. Bassett probably should have

:41:30. > :41:39.taken the shot. Luckily, they get the throw.

:41:40. > :41:47.Good ball placement by Kimberlee Green, through to Bassett. The

:41:48. > :41:51.Australian bench sense their team is coming back. It shows how tight it

:41:52. > :42:00.is, Corbin Mrs a shot and it has resulted in Australia potentially

:42:01. > :42:04.going one point behind. Here they come. Just over five minutes

:42:05. > :42:21.remaining in the first. Lisa Alexander, urging her players on.

:42:22. > :42:25.Again, good, stronghold by Jo Harten. She gets the contact. --

:42:26. > :42:37.strong hold. What England are doing well is that

:42:38. > :42:40.Australia often go hide to the pocket but they are going tight on

:42:41. > :42:44.them and if there is any opportunity to go high, Geva Mentor is covering

:42:45. > :42:46.the back. They are doing that really well, not allowing Australia to go

:42:47. > :42:56.for the long ball into the pocket. Great play, good positioning by Geva

:42:57. > :43:26.Mentor. Outstanding from Jo Harten. It

:43:27. > :43:32.almost looked as though she was hesitating but she knew what she was

:43:33. > :43:39.doing. Sasha Corbin goes flying. Lucky, there, England. Kadeen

:43:40. > :43:41.Corbin, really giving Chatfield the runaround at the moment. She is on

:43:42. > :43:52.the move. That is good play, good distribution

:43:53. > :43:58.by Jo Harten but the goals need to go in, for England. You feel nervous

:43:59. > :44:03.when she has done all that work and she gets the ball and goes to the

:44:04. > :44:07.post. Perhaps not the confidence she should have. Just a sense that she

:44:08. > :44:09.hesitates and her shooting routine changes at times when she is on the

:44:10. > :44:36.heavy work rate, outside the circle. Back to a two goal difference. 100%

:44:37. > :44:43.shooting record, Bassett, so far for Australia. A big game for England,

:44:44. > :45:06.held ball. -- a big gain. Great play, good link through the

:45:07. > :45:09.court by Guthrie and Jo Harten. You get a sense that Guthrie is

:45:10. > :45:18.dominating more in terms of assisting Jo Harten at this point.

:45:19. > :45:23.How did that ball get through? A good run of play for England. It is

:45:24. > :45:24.going to be very good run of play for England. It is

:45:25. > :45:29.going to interesting to see what Lisa Alexander does that quarter

:45:30. > :45:37.time, if she leaves it as it is. She could stick with this group but the

:45:38. > :45:40.depth of the Australian team is great. A test for the Australian

:45:41. > :45:49.coach. Where would you make the change? Caldwell's shooting is a

:45:50. > :46:02.little bit down. Medhurst could maybe come on and take over that

:46:03. > :46:11.role. I wonder... Apparently call Eto'o has been in best form in

:46:12. > :46:21.training. -- Corletto. Way out of the circle. Good ball. I think she

:46:22. > :46:26.has an eternal radar. She is lovely to watch, Joanne Harten. Incredibly

:46:27. > :46:30.long limbs. She seems to get them all together in the right order at

:46:31. > :46:35.the right time. Now, another big turnover. Credit to the England

:46:36. > :46:45.defence, they worked incredibly hard in the mid-court. Communicating

:46:46. > :46:59.They would be thought of maybe options to look at for Australia.

:47:00. > :47:09.They would be thought of maybe bringing Madison Robinson on.

:47:10. > :47:18.She finds herself free and Robinson for Australia in the smallest of

:47:19. > :47:26.spaces. That is brilliant. Superb. Jemma the momentum of this England

:47:27. > :47:30.side has built. That is the end of the first quarter and what a quarter

:47:31. > :47:41.for England. They lead Australia 16-10. Certainly not the margin we

:47:42. > :47:48.might have expected. Australia are certainly under the pump here. I

:47:49. > :47:52.think this lead has been built by the England defence. They have been

:47:53. > :47:55.outstanding in the defensive circle and they have been awarded by some

:47:56. > :48:09.outstanding work in the attacking end. A great start by England.

:48:10. > :48:18.This gives you some idea but it is a result of quality defence by that

:48:19. > :48:26.trio, Clarke, Chambers and Mentor at the back. I think you might be right

:48:27. > :48:31.about Julie Corletto. She the back. I think you might be right

:48:32. > :48:37.had a pat on the back from Lisa Alexander. These are pictures from

:48:38. > :48:41.the first quarter. Slight hesitation by Kadeen Corbin at the start of the

:48:42. > :48:48.game but she came into her own with some great athleticism. And great

:48:49. > :48:51.passing from Serena Guthrie. When your attack is putting in a

:48:52. > :49:05.defensive effort like that, you know your team are on song. These hurdles

:49:06. > :49:19.will be interesting for the coaches, particularly the Australian one.

:49:20. > :49:25.Girls, push up, push up. They are running pretty quickly down the ball

:49:26. > :49:44.so push up hard. You heard that from the Australians

:49:45. > :49:51.saying, "push up". Push up as high as you can. So you stop the ball

:49:52. > :49:57.getting into that circle and make it difficult for the circle defenders.

:49:58. > :50:06.We can see the changes straightaway. Natalie Medhurst, Madison Robinson

:50:07. > :50:09.on wing attack. I guess you would sometimes worry about making a

:50:10. > :50:17.change like that but they have great depth. They have people who are more

:50:18. > :50:27.than capable. Kimberlee Green has gone to the bench. That is a

:50:28. > :50:30.surprise. Rewarded by what Lisa Alexander sees as a good first

:50:31. > :50:38.quarter. The second quarter underway. England should take that

:50:39. > :50:44.as a compliment, that they forced the Aussies into so many changes.

:50:45. > :50:48.Absolutely. They will be slightly hesitant with Robinson, knowing she

:50:49. > :50:51.can find herself free in the smallest of spaces. She has been

:50:52. > :50:55.looked at very closely from the England side. It could prove a

:50:56. > :51:05.valuable change for Australia but let's hope England can keep their

:51:06. > :51:11.consistency. Eboni Beckford-Chambers. Beckford-Chambers

:51:12. > :51:21.moving to Adelaide. Corbin will have her work cut out

:51:22. > :51:43.for her against Corletto. Good defence from England. It is as

:51:44. > :51:52.good as you will see. Australia not generating any speed. They got their

:51:53. > :51:57.reward. I suggested that if England are to beat Australia on the big

:51:58. > :52:04.stage at any time, this is their biggest opportunity. Absolutely.

:52:05. > :52:09.With the fine form of Mentor, Clarke and just some consistency, there has

:52:10. > :52:13.been a problem for England, but certainly, the start in this game

:52:14. > :52:19.has been fabulous. A missed shot by Joanne Harten. You do get a sense

:52:20. > :52:25.Australia have come out of the blocks extremely quick for the

:52:26. > :52:33.second quarter. Already, call Eto'o asserting herself. Call Eto'o adds

:52:34. > :52:43.speed and so does Robinson. -- Julie Corletto adds speed. Julie Corletto

:52:44. > :52:53.is a great player through the mid-court for Australia.

:52:54. > :52:57.Bassett looking a little more confident to lay that ball out to

:52:58. > :53:17.Robinson. England need to score here. They

:53:18. > :53:33.have not yet managed a goal in this second quarter.

:53:34. > :53:46.Just a tussle with Julie Corletto and Corbin. That took them over

:53:47. > :53:56.three minutes. The timing from Harten, spot on. What I found

:53:57. > :54:03.interesting about Harten, she would start well but sometimes crumble.

:54:04. > :54:11.But she has not done that this year. For good reason. Something she has

:54:12. > :54:14.worked on over the last two years, the distribution. Whether she is

:54:15. > :54:20.shooter or goal attack and that is the big change. She has come back

:54:21. > :54:29.with so much in Hercog craft, who distribution is much better, timing,

:54:30. > :54:33.as you said. -- her core craft. Good to see Sasha Corbin back in play at

:54:34. > :54:46.the centre pass. Her reliance on Kadeen Corbin at goal attack.

:54:47. > :54:57.Contact going against Sasha Corbin. It went for Renae Halinan. Good

:54:58. > :55:09.defence from Australia. Jade Clarke, outstanding work from Madison

:55:10. > :55:13.Robinson, covering her every move. I cannot sometimes have think Jade

:55:14. > :55:16.Clarke is underrated. That was the impression in England. But

:55:17. > :55:25.witnessing the performance this year, obviously, making that move to

:55:26. > :55:35.Swiss for the ANZ next year. Great work by Medhurst.

:55:36. > :55:43.Five minutes gone in the second quarter, that six goal lead has been

:55:44. > :55:52.cut in half. What a surprise, Jade Clarke heads to the sideline. I

:55:53. > :55:55.think the key here is Beckford-Chambers and Medhurst, who

:55:56. > :56:00.is really starting to open up. Ringing Robinson into the game.

:56:01. > :56:08.Beckford-Chambers really wanting to tighten up there. The speed of Julie

:56:09. > :56:16.Corletto through that mid-court certainly supported the attacking

:56:17. > :56:17.unit from Australia. Colette Thompson, assistant coach for

:56:18. > :56:35.England. With Beckford-Chambers. Medhurst having plenty to say. I was

:56:36. > :56:38.watching her as she came on, she was pumped and she would not have liked

:56:39. > :56:45.being on the bench in the first 15 minutes. That is what happens when

:56:46. > :56:53.you have players of that calibre on the bench, they clearly want to be

:56:54. > :56:58.playing. They think, when I get on, I want my unit to hold and that is

:56:59. > :57:05.exactly what is happening at the moment. These injury breaks, two

:57:06. > :57:16.minutes. If you call another one in the same quarter, it is just 30

:57:17. > :57:23.seconds. 18-15, England hanging on. Ten minutes remaining in the second

:57:24. > :57:24.quarter. Some great pressure by Hallinan on Corbin at the centre

:57:25. > :57:50.pass. What is impressive about Joanne

:57:51. > :57:51.Harten, she distributes but she is very quick on that speed on the run

:57:52. > :58:15.through to the post. Unlucky. A call for contact.

:58:16. > :58:23.Fabulous lean from Beckford-Chambers. At not enough to

:58:24. > :58:28.put off Natalie Medhurst. Medhurst is on a mission. Finding the front

:58:29. > :58:29.position well. She is doing the job out there. Julie Corletto shutting

:58:30. > :58:42.down Corbin. Off-balance.

:58:43. > :59:11.Australia to make it Off-balance.

:59:12. > :59:17.she tracked that one, great take. She has just got her eye on Harten

:59:18. > :59:23.so much, she is so dangerous. Let's have a look at this work of Mentor.

:59:24. > :59:28.She tracked that ball so early. Great body position they're up

:59:29. > :59:37.against the Aussies at that point. -- great body position there, up

:59:38. > :59:46.against the Aussies. Impressed with Serena Guthrie and the ball

:59:47. > :59:49.placement through to Joanne Harten. This is good from England because it

:59:50. > :59:56.looked like Australia were very much coming back. 14 from 16 for Harten.

:59:57. > :00:22.Lovely touch. Again, it is Jo Harten who opens up

:00:23. > :00:37.but look at that amazing ball through to Corbin. Jo Harten is

:00:38. > :00:45.losing confidence. -- oozing confidence.

:00:46. > :00:48.She has yet to miss one, so a good contribution from her, 15 at the

:00:49. > :01:05.moment. Beautiful vision. Such a target,

:01:06. > :01:09.now, Jo Harten. Great ball. She called the Australians with their

:01:10. > :01:14.backs turned. That is the sharpness, surely, that they bring

:01:15. > :01:15.back from the ANZ competition, that ability to put the ball through at

:01:16. > :01:51.speed. Good pressure from Australia. They

:01:52. > :01:56.are lucky, there, England. They were in all sorts of trouble. Some good

:01:57. > :02:00.defence on the line by Callinan, just closing down Corbin, but a

:02:01. > :02:04.great take by Corletto. That is what you are looking for. That was

:02:05. > :02:07.brilliant but Corbin was running away from the ball. She needs to

:02:08. > :02:23.come to it because Corletto will pick those up. She is so athletic.

:02:24. > :02:34.Certainly, Medhurst just injected the speed. She links so well with

:02:35. > :02:39.Robinson. That is how they got the score. Look at Corletto. And then to

:02:40. > :02:46.have the ability to get it back in court, such outstanding skills.

:02:47. > :02:58.Again, good vision by Robinson, through to Bassett, just able to get

:02:59. > :03:01.the ball over Geva Mentor. This is the closest Australia has been to

:03:02. > :03:09.England since the beginning of the match.

:03:10. > :03:16.Well done, Kadeen Corbin. That was a test for her, to take the ball after

:03:17. > :03:27.the pressure, but she secured the goal.

:03:28. > :03:32.Just drawing Geva Mentor through to the top of the circle, Bassett.

:03:33. > :03:44.Clever move to open up the backspace.

:03:45. > :03:53.Australia have really tightened up as a defensive unit. You don't get a

:03:54. > :04:01.lot of second chances at this level. They need to give it. She is

:04:02. > :04:07.standing up, Kadeen Corbin. Absolutely, ten from 13, so far.

:04:08. > :04:14.That is a better record for her at this point of the game.

:04:15. > :04:29.It is good to see Guthrie, electing to use Jo Harten. At times, before,

:04:30. > :04:38.she would have launched the ball through to Kadeen Corbin. A key

:04:39. > :04:39.miss, there. That would have restored the 3-goal buffer but not

:04:40. > :04:52.to be. Geva Mentor, brilliant! She is on

:04:53. > :04:57.fire. And Jade Clarke is therefore the pick-up but Medhurst. She has

:04:58. > :05:17.her say, brilliant, great netball. against Medhurst. It is one of the

:05:18. > :05:25.things I think they will look at. Just getting stuck on the centre

:05:26. > :05:33.pass, England, by some great defensive pressure.

:05:34. > :05:40.Kadeen Corbin has come to the party for England, late in the second

:05:41. > :05:50.quarter. Lisa Alexander certainly has a bit of thinking to do.

:05:51. > :05:56.You won't see a goalkeeper play better than Geva Mentor is playing

:05:57. > :06:01.at the moment. She is really light on her feet. Just over a minute left

:06:02. > :06:07.in the second quarter. That is better from England at the

:06:08. > :06:17.centre pass. Australia with the opportunity to

:06:18. > :06:33.level. A big play coming up. Great work through the mid-court by

:06:34. > :06:37.Corletto but again, Geva Mentor comes out with the ball. Medhurst

:06:38. > :06:43.will be kicking herself over that pass. Can England get it through?

:06:44. > :06:48.Desperately close to three seconds. The defenders are aware of the

:06:49. > :06:51.time. They don't want Jo Harten to get the ball. Great movement to goal

:06:52. > :07:05.by Kadeen Corbin, just delaying her running. -- run in.

:07:06. > :07:12.Robinson is proving a real handful for Jade Clarke at the moment. Oh,

:07:13. > :07:20.well done, Caitlin Bassett. She was totally out of the court. Well done

:07:21. > :07:26.by Guthrie. That is a great end to the first half. And I suppose you

:07:27. > :07:35.would expect little else. It is just one

:07:36. > :07:42.What Kennington Oval first half, and we will be back for the second

:07:43. > :07:46.half, lie. Now, if you thought netball was an easy sport, think

:07:47. > :07:51.again. Last week, a couple of weeks ago, the Radio 1 DJs took on the

:07:52. > :07:52.English girls, and how do you think that worked out? Have a look for

:07:53. > :08:19.yourself. ROCK MUSIC

:08:20. > :08:24.I thought it would be fun, but now we are here, there is a court and

:08:25. > :08:28.they are really serious about it. I should have thought about this. We

:08:29. > :08:31.are going to lose. But I think that we should aim not to lose

:08:32. > :08:38.embarrassingly. I was told we could be looking at 40-0 but I would be

:08:39. > :08:42.happy with 40-10. LAUGHTER Great, that is being because you

:08:43. > :08:46.said you would wear that on Twitter. I feel quite honoured. It

:08:47. > :08:58.will divert attention from the loss that is going to happen. Up for

:08:59. > :09:18.this? Game face on. Let's go. One two, three. England!

:09:19. > :10:15.elbow, every now and then. I don't know what the referee is watching.

:10:16. > :10:20.Dodgy decisions. Hang on, you are with us. This is why we are playing

:10:21. > :10:26.netball. So you have ditched us? I have chosen the winning team. OK,

:10:27. > :10:31.cool. Great. Our coach has now left us because she got an England cap

:10:32. > :10:35.and she loves netball, so she has come here, met her idols and ditched

:10:36. > :10:39.the team. This is why we are here. She has got an England B a bomb. She

:10:40. > :10:46.has done it for an England cap. She is having a team photo. Traitor! We

:10:47. > :11:01.have got 21 to score in five minutes. You will do it, easy.

:11:02. > :11:24.OK, so, it was 27-there. How did do, coach? Traitor? Seriously, I thought

:11:25. > :11:30.you did brilliantly. You had the looks going for you. You one with

:11:31. > :11:35.that. That was it. You brought sexy back to netball. You are the bad

:11:36. > :11:38.boys of netball. What do you think about netball? Sign macro I thought

:11:39. > :11:42.it was fun but we're not about the winning, we are just about the

:11:43. > :11:45.social. We could all go to the pub and have a little drink, get to know

:11:46. > :11:50.each other. Let's have a nice time that is why we play. Not for us,

:11:51. > :11:59.because we are with these girls, now. See you later. Winners!

:12:00. > :12:05.One of the great success stories of this Commonwealth Games is the

:12:06. > :12:09.success of England and Scotland on the judo mat. I am joined by

:12:10. > :12:14.Commonwealth gold medallist, Sarah Clark. Congratulations. A great win

:12:15. > :12:18.yesterday. Thank you. I guess it is still thinking in and it has been a

:12:19. > :12:23.whirlwind since yesterday afternoon. You have been to three

:12:24. > :12:27.Olympic games in the past. You have been competing since you are very

:12:28. > :12:32.young. But this is the pinnacle, would you say, of your career? I

:12:33. > :12:35.think so, yes, it is one of the best result I have taken. And in front of

:12:36. > :12:40.a home crowd as well, in this atmosphere, it has been excellent.

:12:41. > :12:45.England and Scotland have been so dominant on the judo mat. What do

:12:46. > :12:49.you put it down to? We have got some good programmes in place. We have

:12:50. > :12:54.good teams as well, teams of people that are willing to train hard and

:12:55. > :12:58.put the work in everyday. How big a deal is it to have judo back in the

:12:59. > :13:03.Commonwealth Games? It has been missing for a while. Yes, since

:13:04. > :13:07.Manchester, 12 years ago. For now, we are happy with the medals we have

:13:08. > :13:11.got in the last couple of days and today will be another good day, I

:13:12. > :13:14.think. You won a silver in Manchester, the last time the

:13:15. > :13:20.Commonwealth Games had judo. Now you have the gold medal with you. Isn't

:13:21. > :13:23.it a beautiful thing? It is very nice. I heard your post match

:13:24. > :13:28.interview last night. You were talking about it being your last

:13:29. > :13:33.competition. Is that right? Definitely. It is the right time and

:13:34. > :13:37.the right thing to do. Is your body getting to the point where it is not

:13:38. > :13:41.coping with the daily rigmarole of training and fighting? Yes, that has

:13:42. > :13:45.maybe been the key for a number of years but especially after London,

:13:46. > :13:50.the last couple of years, it has been quite testing on my body. I

:13:51. > :13:55.have been keeping it together with different people helping and bits of

:13:56. > :13:59.tape and a couple of operations. It is the right time. I am not sad by

:14:00. > :14:05.any means. I am not young and retiring. I'm a bit older now. It is

:14:06. > :14:10.the right time. So you don't reckon you have another two years in you,

:14:11. > :14:14.go to the Olympics? Another couple of years is not very much. In my

:14:15. > :14:18.head I could but I don't think my body should do it. Towards the end

:14:19. > :14:21.of your bout, you knew what you had to do to get the win. Talk us

:14:22. > :14:31.through your final move? Once she was on the deck, I knew that was

:14:32. > :14:34.where she was weaker, for want of a better word. She was really strong

:14:35. > :14:37.up top. I have never competed against before but I could tell from

:14:38. > :14:41.video footage that she would be strong physically and she was, when

:14:42. > :14:45.I put my hands on, and quite dangerous well. The final move, the

:14:46. > :14:51.armlock, I wondered if her hand would come out and tap. The Nao 's

:14:52. > :15:01.-- the noise of the crowd probably helped, and I got the ippon. The

:15:02. > :15:05.noise of the crowd, it was different. I knew people in the

:15:06. > :15:09.crowd supporting me and I knew what this meant, maybe more to other

:15:10. > :15:13.people, and people that are close to me, maybe as opposed to myself. It

:15:14. > :15:17.was nice. It was quite emotional. It probably has not sunk in yet. As the

:15:18. > :15:22.days go on and we get ourselves together, it will think it a bit

:15:23. > :15:27.more. Enjoy the rest of the games. It was a sensational win.

:15:28. > :15:30.Congratulations once again. Let's go back to the netball now, England

:15:31. > :15:48.against Australia. The second half is coming up life. -- live.

:15:49. > :15:51.tight first half. Australia have been dominant in the Commonwealth

:15:52. > :15:59.Games in the netball over the last few years. England have beaten

:16:00. > :16:02.Australia in the last year despite Australia are coming to win gold

:16:03. > :16:18.medals but England definitely have something to say about it.

:16:19. > :16:27.COMMENTATOR: Half-time in this tremendous match between Australia

:16:28. > :16:33.and England. One goal in it. Australia hanging on. They had a

:16:34. > :16:37.phenomenal first quarter, England, racing out in the lead. But

:16:38. > :16:45.Australia made a few tweaks and back they came. The test now for England,

:16:46. > :16:49.can they hang on? It is all about starting again and putting behind

:16:50. > :16:55.you what has occurred and coming out here and starting afresh. This is a

:16:56. > :17:01.real challenge for England. They are under threat. They have made a

:17:02. > :17:08.change. Sara Bayman coming on in wing defence. A real surprise

:17:09. > :17:12.expectation that Sara Bayman might come on but potentially a move

:17:13. > :17:20.through to centre or wing attack for Jade Clarke. Sara Bayman gained her

:17:21. > :17:28.50th cap the other day. Second-half action underway. Messy for England

:17:29. > :17:38.but they get away with it. 27-26, England. What a difference Corletto

:17:39. > :17:41.has made. She has struggled with injury over a number of years but we

:17:42. > :17:55.have seen the very best of her here today. That is the start England

:17:56. > :17:59.needed. Jo Harten has become a real leader in the England side.

:18:00. > :18:04.Absolutely, she really dominated. Good pressure by Mentor. You could

:18:05. > :18:13.see that coming in with the footwork, great body angle. You can

:18:14. > :18:23.see Australia pushing England up high, that was the instruction at

:18:24. > :18:29.the break early on. Sara Bayman finding a path through but not far.

:18:30. > :18:32.Laura Geitz hunting. That will do her confidence the world of good

:18:33. > :18:33.because she has been on the back foot a bit throughout the course of

:18:34. > :18:49.this game. Good change of direction by Kadeen

:18:50. > :19:02.Corbin. She gets herself back into this play. Corbin reeling out of

:19:03. > :19:11.court. This game turning into a cracker. Harten urging her players

:19:12. > :19:15.on. Ravaillion has built throughout the course of this game as well,

:19:16. > :19:16.offering more throughout the circle, feeding in more and becoming a

:19:17. > :19:42.danger. Beautiful vision from Bayman,

:19:43. > :19:47.slicing them open. Solid structure thereby England, set the Triangle,

:19:48. > :19:57.as Guthrie put the ball through to Corbin. 30-28. Good touch by

:19:58. > :20:12.Guthrie. Bayman just offers strong supporting

:20:13. > :20:26.roles through that mid-court for England. Sasha Corbin being shut

:20:27. > :20:30.down. Critical point for England, particularly with heart in doing far

:20:31. > :20:51.more work outside the circle. -- particularly with Harten

:20:52. > :21:06.Just a little bit of hesitation too much from Medhurst.

:21:07. > :21:13.Again, Sasha Corbin, just not an option, she needs to come on the

:21:14. > :21:21.angle towards the ball. She is completely covered.

:21:22. > :21:39.Geitz happy if Harten goes outside the circle.

:21:40. > :21:45.England need to tidy up around the circle. Sasha Corbin

:21:46. > :21:50.struggling with the defensive pressure of Australia. It is Jo

:21:51. > :21:59.Harten's delivery again through to convene Corbin. They worked hard for

:22:00. > :22:19.that goal, England. Here, a chance to go four up.

:22:20. > :22:28.Good control by Jo Harten. Kadeen Corbin just losing her cool under

:22:29. > :22:40.pressure a little bit. Just needs to regroup. Millar good start to this

:22:41. > :22:46.third quarter from England. -- a good start to this third quarter

:22:47. > :23:01.from England. Quality ball through from Ravaillion.

:23:02. > :23:04.Great defence from Australia. They covered every dodge. They are away.

:23:05. > :23:16.Ravaillion. Great double-play through from

:23:17. > :23:51.Ravaillion to Medhurst. Moments ago, England had a four goal

:23:52. > :23:55.advantage, it is now one. Clever work from Harten. She knew exactly

:23:56. > :24:14.what she was doing with the offload. Great work from England, strong

:24:15. > :24:32.communication from the back. By Mentor. Good work. A call for

:24:33. > :24:39.contact. Lucky for Harten. She has botched it, and doubly lucky, they

:24:40. > :24:46.are going to get another chance. Fortunate for the English, 34-31,

:24:47. > :24:58.halfway, third quarter. So often, the big quarter. Great defensive

:24:59. > :25:11.pressure from Australia. Guthrie is athletic but not that athletic.

:25:12. > :25:34.Great call by Mentor. A good combination, with Beckford-Chambers.

:25:35. > :25:37.We have wondered about Beckford-Chambers, normally a

:25:38. > :25:45.goalkeeper, how would she run out that goal defence? But she is fine.

:25:46. > :25:52.Certainly closing Medhurst up a little more. Serena Guthrie hits the

:25:53. > :26:02.deck. She is up again, she now has the ball. They are the shots you

:26:03. > :26:09.know Corbin is a little uncertain about. That is the difference in

:26:10. > :26:13.good games like this. Just the timing of the move at the moment for

:26:14. > :26:24.Kadeen Corbin. Some great defensive pressure by Corletto. Just as that

:26:25. > :26:27.lead blows out, not blows out but moves out to four, Laura Geitz has

:26:28. > :26:38.got a bandage on but left me. Probably a good time to have a look

:26:39. > :26:44.at it. What is really good about the English side, in the past, Australia

:26:45. > :26:51.would have kept on coming and they would have overridden them. Some

:26:52. > :26:57.great work by Geva Mentor would have overridden them. Some

:26:58. > :27:06.loses that confidence through. -- she just oozes confidence through.

:27:07. > :27:10.Anna Mayes is clearly working strongly with the attack at the

:27:11. > :27:14.moment. Geva Mentor or seems to have been in the English side forever but

:27:15. > :27:24.she was 16 or 17 when she first made the team? Let's see what we can pick

:27:25. > :27:33.up here. You can see the hand of Laura Geitz laying down the law.

:27:34. > :27:39.Sara Bayman, she is the vice captain of the sites are presumably, she

:27:40. > :27:40.will be on call captain now. Six minutes remaining in the third

:27:41. > :27:59.quarter. England leading Australia. Their Mentor goes again. Just a

:28:00. > :28:06.deflection. -- there Mentor goes again. She really came into her own

:28:07. > :28:10.in that second quarter so good coaching. Tempted to go around the

:28:11. > :28:25.back of Bassett, Mentor. The English defence, Australia,

:28:26. > :28:31.perhaps mucking around a little bit too much. Mentor gets the

:28:32. > :28:40.deflection. Better plate through the mid-court from England. Using the

:28:41. > :28:44.width of the court. -- better play through the mid-court from England.

:28:45. > :28:56.Harten pitched herself in the circle there.

:28:57. > :29:09.Fantastic! Jo Harten at her best. I wonder how tall she is when she is

:29:10. > :29:15.stretched like that. Her arms ban is incredible. But superb athleticism.

:29:16. > :29:28.-- her arm span. Yellow mike is she left-handed? Yes. -- is she

:29:29. > :29:31.left-handed? England are up by six. The coaching staff of Australia

:29:32. > :29:36.again the really thinking about what they need to do. They are being

:29:37. > :29:44.challenged by this England side. This is what we wanted, the top two

:29:45. > :29:45.challenging. -- challenged. England really pushing Australia and New

:29:46. > :29:57.Zealand. Just caught with her back to play,

:29:58. > :30:02.Sasha Corbin. A good ball through to Guthrie. Millar yes, Corbin just had

:30:03. > :30:18.too much pace up. Robinson, just kept her out of the

:30:19. > :30:25.game on the last few plays, for Australia. They have not been many

:30:26. > :30:25.feeds from the circle edge for Australia, such is the incredible

:30:26. > :30:39.defence of the English. The Faro brow of Tegan Caldwell. --

:30:40. > :30:49.furrowed brow. Back the Aussies come again.

:30:50. > :30:58.A warning. In a Guthrie. -- a warning for Serena Guthrie.

:30:59. > :31:10.In and out! Medhurst. A let off, for England.

:31:11. > :31:18.Good recovery by Sara Bayman, electing to hold onto the ball.

:31:19. > :31:23.Guthrie, not happy with the attention she is being paid. She was

:31:24. > :31:29.flat on her stomach, on the deck. Showing no ill effects. Now, this

:31:30. > :31:34.needs perhaps to be reined in. Yes, there is a lot of tension, there.

:31:35. > :31:46.I think the umpire will have two assert herself. The crowd getting

:31:47. > :31:52.into it, now, too. A critical time for England, just to regroup.

:31:53. > :32:11.Sara Bayman gets the warning. the players

:32:12. > :32:28.clearly angry about what is going on on the court, so she needs to calm

:32:29. > :32:30.herself with her decision-making. How did that ball gets through, in

:32:31. > :32:37.the smallest of spaces? Phenomenal. How did that ball gets through, in

:32:38. > :32:52.Look at the England bench. Brilliant Guthrie just takes it! She was a bit

:32:53. > :32:57.lucky, there. Clever play by Guthrie, using Sara Bayman on the

:32:58. > :33:06.transverse line, taking the pressure off England. Jo Harten, able to

:33:07. > :33:09.reset, in the circle. Just over a minute remaining. What a quarter

:33:10. > :33:17.this has been. Now Corletto is on the floor.

:33:18. > :33:22.There was brewing around the crowd. You can tell there is a lot of

:33:23. > :33:35.Australians in the stadium. -- there was some booing.

:33:36. > :33:43.The assistant coach, looking daggers. It is probably just

:33:44. > :33:44.concentration. Great swing of the ball and superb play by

:33:45. > :33:53.concentration. Great swing of the Quality netball from the centre

:33:54. > :33:55.pass, using the width, swinging across the circle. This game has

:33:56. > :34:11.been played as if it was a final. England no that there are only

:34:12. > :34:17.seconds remaining. -- England will know. She has ran out. They were

:34:18. > :34:30.aware but they could not get it away. What a quarter. England hang

:34:31. > :34:32.on and extend their lead. 59-36 get -- 39-36 against Austria. We had

:34:33. > :34:37.just about everything in that quarter. I thought at one stage we

:34:38. > :34:40.would have fisticuffs. It was getting very physical, Serena

:34:41. > :34:45.Guthrie not happy with the attention but the umpires needed to slow it

:34:46. > :34:48.down and that is what they did. A lot at stake for both these teams.

:34:49. > :35:03.They are desperate. Really good shooting percentage.

:35:04. > :35:08.Errors, not nearly as many from England as Australia's that will be

:35:09. > :35:12.a great positive for them. But it will come down to the mental ability

:35:13. > :35:19.of England in the, and how quickly they can cope with the pressure.

:35:20. > :35:25.Look at Geva Mentor. She has been strong at the back, but some quality

:35:26. > :35:31.work by Corletto. Certainly, Medhurst proving her value on the

:35:32. > :35:36.court. You just get a sense that the momentum is with Australia, and

:35:37. > :35:40.England need to regroup. Superb athleticism from Jo Harten, there.

:35:41. > :35:47.She is in control, in the zone, and she wants this England win. During

:35:48. > :35:51.this quarter, we thought Australia were coming back. We thought they

:35:52. > :35:57.would run away but England were having none of it. Back they came.

:35:58. > :36:13.Kadeen Corbin, well, she has stepped up with her shooting. Let's see what

:36:14. > :36:19.we can here. -- hear. This is in, this is what we have practised for.

:36:20. > :36:26.We are smart, make sure we have got lots of this out there. Settle

:36:27. > :36:27.yourselves down. Work the ball. And work your attacking play, just as

:36:28. > :36:40.hard as your defensive play. Fabulous words from Lisa Alexander.

:36:41. > :36:44.She said there was no tomorrow. But talking about England, they have

:36:45. > :36:47.withstood the Australia pressure but now they are getting close to the

:36:48. > :36:51.finish line. The question is, do they know how to win and do they

:36:52. > :36:56.know how to beat Australia? We are about to find out. As we have

:36:57. > :37:01.mentioned, they have beaten Australia before, but those have

:37:02. > :37:04.often been in the Australian season and Australia have not had their

:37:05. > :37:21.full team. This is the big time. Everyone is here.

:37:22. > :37:25.Fourth-quarter action underway, 39-36. England are leading

:37:26. > :37:56.Australia. Two misses in a row but she does not

:37:57. > :37:59.missed three times. Persistence, well supported by Medhurst, good,

:38:00. > :38:07.strong movement at the top of the circle. We saw a lot of this. Serena

:38:08. > :38:16.Guthrie, it looks as though she is in a bit of trouble. Let's have a

:38:17. > :38:29.look. Oh, yes, Sharni Layton's elbow, straight into her face.

:38:30. > :38:35.Let's hope she's OK because she is a very important part of this English

:38:36. > :38:39.line-up. She obviously offered a lot of fire but she has controlled it,

:38:40. > :38:46.and a very positive contribution to her team in attack and defence. We

:38:47. > :38:51.saw her flat and, in the quarter just gone. She gets a pat on the

:38:52. > :38:53.back from her captain. -- flattened. Nothing intentional but

:38:54. > :38:58.there is a lot at stake in this game. As a former Australian

:38:59. > :39:02.captain, what would you be saying to the players? This is what you train

:39:03. > :39:06.for, what Australia pride themselves on, being the underdogs to come back

:39:07. > :39:10.when the pressure is on. They know they are very good in situations

:39:11. > :39:13.like this. They will not panic, they will just keep adhering to their

:39:14. > :39:16.game plan, and things will just happen for them. But they will know

:39:17. > :39:20.they are in a good position to win this game. That is the mindset that

:39:21. > :39:24.Australia must have coming into a competition and a game like this.

:39:25. > :39:29.From a coaching perspective, we just saw Anna Mayes, there. What will she

:39:30. > :39:35.be thinking and wanting from her players? She talks a lot to the

:39:36. > :39:39.players about the control and consistency. At this point, she will

:39:40. > :39:43.be wanting the resilience, the ability to work through this

:39:44. > :39:47.difficult patch, and the pressure that is being put on the attack.

:39:48. > :39:52.Great credit to Australia, their defensive pressure is something else

:39:53. > :40:03.in the first minute of the final quarter.

:40:04. > :40:26.Dropping back onto Bassett. Nice centre play.

:40:27. > :40:31.Sharni Layton, putting a lot of pressure on at the centre pass,

:40:32. > :40:39.closing down the preliminary movement Sasha Corbin off the line.

:40:40. > :40:46.Oh, no! Now she gets a boot in the head! Sharni Layton, right over the

:40:47. > :40:50.top. Guthrie is really being tested, here, intensive mental attitude. --

:40:51. > :41:08.in terms of her mental attitude. Just electing not to take the throw

:41:09. > :41:18.in. Taking a bit of pressure off herself, to reset. Great response by

:41:19. > :41:21.Jo Harten, lifting the team. You just sense that they have lost a

:41:22. > :41:24.little bit of their momentum and their grit. But here we go,

:41:25. > :41:41.Australia again, with Medhurst. Nimble from Medhurst, weaving her

:41:42. > :41:52.way between the defenders. She is finding good space at the moment.

:41:53. > :41:53.The vision! Sasha Corbin. She gave herself a double fist bump after

:41:54. > :42:09.delivering that ball. Medhurst, just playing the front of

:42:10. > :42:11.Beckford-Chambers. Robinson, putting the ball low and it is working

:42:12. > :42:25.against Beckford-Chambers. A superb take by Sasha Corbin,

:42:26. > :42:30.there, but out of court. There has been a few small errors by Sasha

:42:31. > :42:36.Corbin, of sight, out of court. And when it is so tight, they can cost

:42:37. > :42:38.offside. That is a big turnover, Serena Guthrie. Some frustration on

:42:39. > :42:48.the Australian bench with that call. Good transition onto defence by

:42:49. > :43:02.Australia in the mid-court. No one is coming.

:43:03. > :43:13.the moment. A lot of lateral movement, which is dangerous. At

:43:14. > :43:16.times, she pitches herself on the circle edge a bit too soon. What

:43:17. > :43:22.times, she pitches herself on the great recovery. Fabulous for England

:43:23. > :43:24.times, she pitches herself on the and Sasha Corbin. She was looking

:43:25. > :43:30.tired a moment ago but that was a nice piece of play. The big hand

:43:31. > :43:35.from Medhurst. This is a thrilling game. Sharni Layton having

:43:36. > :43:37.influence, getting her hand to a number of balls. England have to be

:43:38. > :43:48.careful because she is quite Sara Bayman, getting into the game

:43:49. > :43:54.more, giving Guthrie a chance to drop back. There is no love lost

:43:55. > :44:11.between these teams. It goes against Jo Harten. This is a

:44:12. > :44:20.big moment for Australia. If they score from this, they will have the

:44:21. > :44:32.next centre pass. Great work by Robinson,

:44:33. > :44:44.Kadeen Corbin. Anna Mayes is on her feet. Corbin,

:44:45. > :44:52.Kadeen Corbin. Anna Mayes is on her of attention. It is an umpire

:44:53. > :44:56.time-out. Yes, because if it was Corbin's time-out you would have had

:44:57. > :45:04.30 seconds of the court. -- she would have had. England, hanging on

:45:05. > :45:11.to their lead. But Australia will take the next centre pass. They know

:45:12. > :45:15.what is at stake. We should perhaps paint the picture that if Australia

:45:16. > :45:17.were to lose this game, the chances are they

:45:18. > :45:22.were to lose this game, the chances the semifinals. That changes the

:45:23. > :45:24.whole complexion of the tournament. However, nine and a half minutes

:45:25. > :45:52.remaining in this match. Bassett. That is her 30th goal and

:45:53. > :46:00.more importantly, it levels this game. Nine minutes remaining. Great

:46:01. > :46:07.defensive work from Ravaillion, to shut down Corbin. Just the height of

:46:08. > :46:10.Layton as well, proving a problem in terms of the distribution through to

:46:11. > :46:23.Corbin. Excellent defensive pressure.

:46:24. > :46:32.It is a quality ball placement from Ravaillion through to Bassett. For

:46:33. > :46:43.the first time in a very long time, Australia have the lead. Good

:46:44. > :46:54.defensive work, England. There is fight in this England side. Layton

:46:55. > :47:05.and Corletto hunting in that mid-court, opening up spaces. Geitz,

:47:06. > :47:13.outstanding. Ball placement again. Guthrie just needed just bloody,

:47:14. > :47:27.give Australia the opportunity. -- Guthrie just needed to study

:47:28. > :47:34.Australia. That was very on characteristic -- uncharacteristic

:47:35. > :47:37.of Bassett. England, opportunity. Great pressure from Bassett. She

:47:38. > :47:48.probably knew she needed to get it back. Important that a man and

:47:49. > :47:51.Beckford-Chambers keep the width on the court, getting drawn in together

:47:52. > :47:59.with the quality defence from Australia in the mid-court. Great

:48:00. > :48:06.vision, excellent ball. This game keeps getting better. England

:48:07. > :48:19.comeback. They sent a pass. -- their centre pass. Big play here for

:48:20. > :48:27.England. Ravaillion refusing to give way, Guthrie. What a game she has

:48:28. > :48:31.had. Getting a sense Harten is playing herself, taking some

:48:32. > :48:41.pressure off Dean Corbin. Well played, Jo, for England. -- takings

:48:42. > :48:47.and pressure of Kadeen Corbin. We saw Corbin limping a little earlier.

:48:48. > :48:54.Medhurst again driving to the ball. At speed, hard to defend. Away from

:48:55. > :49:07.the Australian goal attack. Goal for goal. Six minutes left in this

:49:08. > :49:19.match. This is a Bond match, a preliminary round. -- April match --

:49:20. > :49:27.a pool match. Just a tussle there with Corbin and Corletto. Corletto

:49:28. > :49:38.quip on her footwork, Corbin closing off that ball into the shooters.

:49:39. > :49:51.There is a double on Jo Harten. She had the arm up. CHEERING

:49:52. > :50:13.Bassett might want to shoot from out there. Australia and all sorts of

:50:14. > :50:25.pressure, using the edge of the circle. Some great work off the ball

:50:26. > :50:29.by Medhurst. She was just about to fall over court, she did well, got

:50:30. > :50:39.the ball away, Corbin. Such pressure. Pressure on every part of

:50:40. > :50:52.the court. Beautiful work. Quality ball through. That has to be their

:50:53. > :50:57.parents at this point! So many people were looking forward to this

:50:58. > :51:07.night and it has delivered big time. -- looking forward to this match.

:51:08. > :51:23.Rebound, Bassett! She calmly takes the ball. I don't know that was her

:51:24. > :51:28.really. Into the final four minutes. 46 apiece. Sasha Corbin just

:51:29. > :51:44.dropping back into the backspace. You sense some fatigue in Kadeen

:51:45. > :51:53.Corbin. She has been run down by some quality defence from Geitz and

:51:54. > :51:59.Corletto. Unlucky. Geitz has called. Harten off-loaded but Corbin not

:52:00. > :52:01.really... I might just mention at this point that if we get to

:52:02. > :52:03.full-time and it is a draw, this point that if we get to

:52:04. > :52:10.full-time and it is a that is where it ends. There are no... There is no

:52:11. > :52:14.room for extra time in these preliminary rounds. A good take from

:52:15. > :52:24.Bassett and Mentor in a good position. Quality ball through.

:52:25. > :52:32.Geitz urging. 47-47, under three minutes remaining. Site -- people

:52:33. > :52:38.are getting tired. Their timing is out. Just watch Bayman and Medhurst.

:52:39. > :52:46.There will be some tired bodies after this game. Harten doing

:52:47. > :52:53.everything for her team. Excellent response, credit to Jo Harten, she

:52:54. > :52:57.capitalised and moved out of the circle. But Australia go again,

:52:58. > :53:15.quality work off the line from Medhurst. Two minutes left. Pressure

:53:16. > :53:26.from England. They forced the error. Good, patient build-up by

:53:27. > :53:34.Australia. Not even looking at the post. Medhurst playing well in this

:53:35. > :53:46.last quarter for Australia. Times are taking. -- ticking.

:53:47. > :53:58.last quarter for Australia. Times big play for England. They will not

:53:59. > :54:04.want to waste any chance. Great movement by Geitz, just caught on

:54:05. > :54:05.the contact. Jo Harten has been outstanding.

:54:06. > :54:08.the contact. Jo Harten has been understanding of the

:54:09. > :54:12.the contact. Jo Harten has been when to come into the game. This is

:54:13. > :54:21.a crucial one. That could well be the game. It

:54:22. > :54:22.a crucial one. That could well be Harten if it is. A couple of crucial

:54:23. > :54:29.goals missed opportunity for Australia. Taking

:54:30. > :54:42.the pressure off, passes through the mid-court. 30 seconds. Guthrie. They

:54:43. > :54:48.will just mid-court. 30 seconds. Guthrie. They

:54:49. > :54:55.down. Great ball by Ravaillion, through to Bassett.

:54:56. > :54:57.down. Great ball by Ravaillion, has done this sort

:54:58. > :55:07.down. Great ball by Ravaillion, in the dying seconds of the game,

:55:08. > :55:13.winning it for Australia. I think England will simply run out of time.

:55:14. > :55:18.They have. What a match. Australia get through by the skin of their

:55:19. > :55:28.teeth. They beat England by one goal. 49-48. You have got a feel for

:55:29. > :55:34.England. Absolutely. Jade Clarke goal. 49-48. You have got a feel for

:55:35. > :55:37.just pulling the players in, not letting them go off in

:55:38. > :55:39.disappointment. Credit to her there as a captain. It is about

:55:40. > :55:54.regrouping. Credit to Australia. as a captain. It is about

:55:55. > :55:58.England disappointing for them as a captain. It is about

:55:59. > :55:59.they played it credibly well. Their confidence should still be very

:56:00. > :56:04.high. Will it be confidence should still be very

:56:05. > :56:10.Australia in the rugby Sevens? confidence should still be very

:56:11. > :56:13.about to get underway. We will join the commentary teams now, Australia

:56:14. > :56:20.against Sri Lanka. , Tait the commentary teams now, Australia

:56:21. > :56:35.here. -- COMMENTATOR: Fiji not here. It has not been the brightest of

:56:36. > :56:47.starts but the perfect of starts for Cameron Clark and the Aussies. We

:56:48. > :56:52.saw the importance of restarts. They put pressure on the ball, excellent

:56:53. > :57:01.restart from Clark Cameron. We will see that a lot this weekend, the

:57:02. > :57:10.value of possession. An absolute set piece, Robert Lee more important

:57:11. > :57:20.than scrum and line-out. -- probably more important.

:57:21. > :57:28.Those of you settling down to watch Sevens probably for the first time,

:57:29. > :57:35.we will be going on about possession all weekend. Let's see what Sri

:57:36. > :57:42.Lankan can do with the ball of their own.

:57:43. > :58:09.A little, mazy run. Battle for the air over the ball.

:58:10. > :58:22.James Stannard did very well there in a counter ruck situation. The

:58:23. > :58:33.more lighter weight Sri Lankan side will really have to get their

:58:34. > :58:44.shoulders underneath them. Australia's second try.

:58:45. > :58:52.He looks up, at his options. Australia just too strong from that

:58:53. > :59:17.range. Cameron Clark still cannot yet slot

:59:18. > :59:21.the drop goal convergence. Australia one of the teams that really fancy

:59:22. > :59:28.themselves this weekend. Being in the metal mix at the end of August.

:59:29. > :59:52.They finished sixth behind England in the last season's IRB.

:59:53. > :00:04.Great kick off from Stannard. Look at the height, or what an athlete

:00:05. > :00:11.this guy is. It is a really early lesson for Sri Lanka. In just the

:00:12. > :00:15.bits and pieces, the nuts and bolts, doing the simple things right at the

:00:16. > :00:25.moment. Australia with every single ball. The Australian player driven

:00:26. > :00:39.into touch. That is just about the biggest cheer of the match so far.

:00:40. > :00:51.Australia just ticking every box at the moment, looking very impressive

:00:52. > :01:06.across-the-board. Australia have caught Sri Lanka napping there. What

:01:07. > :01:20.will they say to the players at half-time? Once again, the power of

:01:21. > :01:24.the Australian side just too much to handle for this Sri Lankan side.

:01:25. > :02:06.Converging, a good one. CGI not in Glasgow this weekend. --

:02:07. > :02:23.Fiji. The Wallabies are dominating the restarts.

:02:24. > :02:29.The quality of the play, the understanding and the interchange on

:02:30. > :02:36.this Australian side am a that 73 points is looking on here.

:02:37. > :02:48.A good start for Geraint John. Once again, the restart has been won. He

:02:49. > :02:51.will be bearing in mind that the opposition will get tougher, but

:02:52. > :03:00.Australia have done everything they needed to do right so far. Sean

:03:01. > :03:02.McMahon is wrestled to the ground. Australia still seem to have some

:03:03. > :03:19.space and some numbers out here. A good finish. The crowd are

:03:20. > :03:33.appreciating the courage of the number three-year. -- the number

:03:34. > :03:37.three here. Once again he is too strong from that range. It is all

:03:38. > :03:45.too easy. 36, with a conversion to come. Try number six. Conversion

:03:46. > :03:50.Mrs, which means that at half-time they are slightly behind, if they

:03:51. > :03:56.are to much the 73 points they got in Melbourne eight years ago. It

:03:57. > :04:04.will do for the first seven minutes, however. Pretty tough work,

:04:05. > :04:11.demoralising for the Sri Lankan side. Let's get some fresh bodies

:04:12. > :04:15.out there and see if we can get something different. Something

:04:16. > :04:19.different I would like to see is their ability to tackle, because it

:04:20. > :04:43.has not been on show. CG did not come back into the

:04:44. > :04:52.competition in time to beat the Glasgow deadline. CG Fiji's netball

:04:53. > :05:15.team also did not make it to the Commonwealth Games.

:05:16. > :05:32.to do. They made a change at half-time.

:05:33. > :05:39.Sri Lanka joined the party in Hong Kong after qualifying. They made

:05:40. > :05:44.their debut 30 years before, so they have a relatively lengthy history.

:05:45. > :06:00.But not one that is necessarily full of success.

:06:01. > :06:18.Sean McMahon gathers the the skipper Ed

:06:19. > :06:34.The ball inside to Stannard. Seventh try for Australia. Greg Jelly does

:06:35. > :06:35.did extremely well. But try for Australia. Greg Jelly does

:06:36. > :06:42.enjoy the play year from James try for Australia. Greg Jelly does

:06:43. > :06:49.Stannard. He is giving the ball carrier options inside and outside.

:06:50. > :06:59.Australia gives another lesson to one of the minnows of the game.

:07:00. > :07:03.He has put in a decent shift. He will be held back for later matches.

:07:04. > :07:10.He has put in a decent shift. He Australia play Uganda

:07:11. > :07:18.He has put in a decent shift. He play England. Not entirely happy

:07:19. > :07:19.with their scheduling today. They will have played twice before

:07:20. > :07:22.England have made will have played twice before

:07:23. > :07:26.appearance in about three hours, and they have an eight hour gap between

:07:27. > :07:29.their second and third matches between Uganda in a couple of hours

:07:30. > :07:31.and then England at the end of the day. It is a JPEG

:07:32. > :07:35.and then England at the end of the actually going to take the step of

:07:36. > :07:39.leading the stadium and going back to the village to rest up. There are

:07:40. > :07:41.some logistical issues that Australia's management have to

:07:42. > :07:45.wrestle with today, but Australia's management have to

:07:46. > :07:49.pitch, the players are absolutely doing the business at the moment.

:07:50. > :07:53.They certainly are, they are controlling everything. And being

:07:54. > :08:03.Australians, they will want to control the schedule as well! We

:08:04. > :08:08.know that in the game of rugby sevens, there is always space for

:08:09. > :08:09.them. There seems to be even more against Sri Lanka today. Waltzing

:08:10. > :08:25.through. Tom Lucas with the try. Good work at the breakdown. Nobody

:08:26. > :08:29.is sitting close to the Rocky. We have to be aware what the number

:08:30. > :08:36.nine, or first ball receiver, is up to here. He strolls in. Such a key

:08:37. > :08:43.area, that rate down area in the 15 aside game. He is responsible as he

:08:44. > :08:50.is that in sevens? In sevens, it is about numbering up against the

:08:51. > :08:54.opposites. You do not want to sit to wide from the breakdown initially.

:08:55. > :08:58.You will be able to recover that, but it is harder to come back into

:08:59. > :09:06.the breakdown and is to come out as a defender. Greg Jelly does last

:09:07. > :09:16.control of the ball as he was being hassled out of it.

:09:17. > :09:22.A chance for Sri Lanka to get their hands on the ball, something they

:09:23. > :09:28.have not seen much of in this game. Australia have hit the half-century,

:09:29. > :09:29.still needing Ennahda 23 point to go if they want to match their score

:09:30. > :09:43.from Melbourne in 2006. Sam Myers is coming on. It is all

:09:44. > :09:47.about conserving energy here. It is not just about today, but the back

:09:48. > :09:52.end of tomorrow as well. The collective work rate, the

:09:53. > :09:56.accumulation of numbers, the till misses that these guys have been

:09:57. > :09:59.putting about here. A high repeat effort. Here is a chance. Taken

:10:00. > :10:03.away. The biggest roar of the day. If they

:10:04. > :10:20.score here... This man has made himself a national

:10:21. > :10:22.hero back home, and a shrill anchor Nero in Glasgow. They conceded the

:10:23. > :10:29.first 50 points but they have got the next five. It was a overlap on

:10:30. > :10:36.the left-hand side and they picked it up Barry well.

:10:37. > :10:42.He puts his years back, backed himself into a corner, and a smile

:10:43. > :10:50.as he chucks the ball away. A wonderful site.

:10:51. > :10:59.Brilliant rugby. Well played, Sri Lanka. Hang on a minute. They are

:11:00. > :11:08.only 43 points behind. Last try wins? It might take a while before

:11:09. > :11:12.we get a smile from this man, but they have been working hard for

:11:13. > :11:14.moments like that. Everyone of these teams has been in Glasgow for a

:11:15. > :11:31.fortnight or so. The ball has been wrestled back.

:11:32. > :11:36.Chatter had the decisive tackle. Australia once again had to select

:11:37. > :11:43.reverse gear. Taken in by Tom Lucas. Just a bit of overhead view

:11:44. > :11:44.brings. A big opportunity here for Australia to re-attack on the right.

:11:45. > :12:05.Taken on by Sam Myers. Picked up by Cameron Clark. He is

:12:06. > :12:07.being chased down. Greg Jelly does -- Jeloudev was on hand to make sure

:12:08. > :12:21.the board are not go missing. The players are starting to chase

:12:22. > :12:24.back. The Australian support is following through as well. There is

:12:25. > :12:37.always that yellow Jersey there on hand.

:12:38. > :12:49.We are into the final minute and Australia have nine tries. Shrill

:12:50. > :12:56.anchor have one tried -- Sri Lanka have one try.

:12:57. > :13:04.He has played his part. He earned himself a place on the IRB's sevens

:13:05. > :13:16.dream team. Line-out, taken quickly, but it has

:13:17. > :13:35.got to be taken straight. You can have a line-out or a scrum.

:13:36. > :13:48.Scrum? Not straight. The second is ticking away.

:13:49. > :14:03.The This will be the last play of the match.

:14:11. > :14:19.Will it be a second try for Sri Lanka, or a 10th one for Australia?

:14:20. > :14:25.Great plague from Australia, technically superb.

:14:38. > :14:41.you has done the bulk of the scoring for Australia and finishes the

:14:57. > :14:59.boys low. If you're going to go in low, you have to take down their

:15:00. > :15:04.space, and arm tackles are not going to work for the smaller men from Sri

:15:05. > :15:07.Lanka. They will have to learn quickly or it will be a long

:15:08. > :15:13.afternoon for them. A hat-trick for Cameron Clark. Australia get their

:15:14. > :15:21.challenge for Commonwealth gold under way here at Ibrox in emphatic

:15:22. > :15:27.fashion. Not the 73 points that they notched up in Melbourne, that 62

:15:28. > :15:40.will do very nicely. Sri Lanka's consolation was one tried.

:15:41. > :15:47.A fine win in deed for Australia. 62-7. You have to feel a bit for Sri

:15:48. > :15:50.Lanka, and opening match in the Commonwealth Games and they are

:15:51. > :15:57.playing Australia, a side as good and as rampant as they are. Coming

:15:58. > :16:00.up this morning on BBC Three, we have got more rugby sevens and we

:16:01. > :16:03.will find out how New Zealand got on in their opening match. We will also

:16:04. > :16:06.be heading to the in their opening match. We will also

:16:07. > :16:11.will be seeing how the Scots and English judo players are doing over

:16:12. > :16:12.at the SECC. But now we are taking a couple of minutes for a break to

:16:13. > :16:18.bring you some news. I leave the ashram, travel halfway

:16:19. > :16:22.across the world to find my father, Oh, well. As Vashrati says,

:16:23. > :16:30.gotta keep smiling! We don't tend to use the bathroom

:16:31. > :16:32.together here. All right, well,

:16:33. > :16:34.I'll catch you later. This ashram of yours,

:16:35. > :16:37.it might be a cult. I take it back,

:16:38. > :16:41.he's definitely Cuckoo's son. Hi, I'm Geeta. We'll return to

:16:42. > :16:57.Glasgow after a quick update. A 12 hour ceasefire is in force in

:16:58. > :17:00.Gaza. Israel and Hamas agreed the pause in fighting to get

:17:01. > :17:02.humanitarian help in. Efforts to get a seven day truce

:17:03. > :17:04.have failed. A judge has been accused of falling

:17:11. > :17:15.passengers in parts of southern England and Wales still face

:17:16. > :17:21.problems. Storms and signal failures Arsenal are close to signing

:17:22. > :17:23.Southampton defender Calum Chambers. A fee has been agreed with Liverpool

:17:24. > :17:31.for Dejan Lovren. Well it seems the appearance of the

:17:32. > :17:34.dancing treats has boosted sales. One supermarket reckons they've

:17:35. > :17:36.rocketed 62%. More from us later. Let's return get

:17:37. > :18:31.back to the live rugby from Glasgow. Yeah, I am looking for

:18:32. > :18:33.a Prince Charming. I don't think I'm ugly, but I don't

:18:34. > :18:37.think I'm, like, really pretty. I say, "You've got something

:18:38. > :19:37.on your bum." "Really?" And I say, Glasgow 20 14th year on BBC Three,

:19:38. > :19:43.we will be heading to the velodrome and a couple of minutes, but it is

:19:44. > :19:46.the start of the rugby sevens, holders New Zealand got the campaign

:19:47. > :19:50.underway this morning against Canada, this is the group which

:19:51. > :19:54.features Scotland and it was a comfortable victory for the New

:19:55. > :20:00.Zealand side. They are such a dominant force in sevens rugby and

:20:01. > :20:04.they ran Canada ragged. Bad news for Scotland because they will be

:20:05. > :20:09.beginning the campaign later today, Canada beat Scotland in the world

:20:10. > :20:12.sevens at the semifinal stages in Glasgow a couple of months ago and

:20:13. > :20:20.New Zealand went on to win that comfortably. New Zealand won this

:20:21. > :20:26.match very comfortable, 39-0. Captain D J Forbes spoke to John

:20:27. > :20:32.Inverdale. That was a pretty stunning performance? Yes, always

:20:33. > :20:39.pleasing to boot on a few points against a good Canadian side. You

:20:40. > :20:46.have been here are few days, what have you made of the Glasgow

:20:47. > :20:50.experience? Amazing. Seeing a stadium like this, almost full

:20:51. > :20:55.house, expecting big things and so far it has been awesome. It is not

:20:56. > :20:57.in New Zealand's far it has been awesome. It is not

:20:58. > :21:02.in New instincts to take it easy but you play Barbados later on, can you

:21:03. > :21:10.take a different view to that game because it could be a horrible

:21:11. > :21:22.mismatch? Yes, perhaps. As far as we are concerned we will see. The smart

:21:23. > :21:28.money on New Zealand to retain the title, the won the gold medal eight

:21:29. > :21:34.years ago and four years ago, they are so dominant, Australia might

:21:35. > :21:39.have something to say about it but they are very good indeed. Now we

:21:40. > :21:42.will head life to the velodrome, great success for England and

:21:43. > :21:49.Scotland and they were hoping for more of the same today. Yes, gold

:21:50. > :21:54.medals for Neil Fachie and Craig MacLean, we have got the women's

:21:55. > :22:05.sprint qualification underway. Anna Meares is on track at the moment. We

:22:06. > :22:17.have seen and Chris with me as ever, how will you see Anna Meares going?

:22:18. > :22:24.She is about to go, I would put my money on the fact she will go

:22:25. > :22:28.quicker than Stephanie Morton. I think that usually you look at the

:22:29. > :22:38.men's and women's times and there is usually a second difference between

:22:39. > :22:42.the fastest qualifiers. For Neil Fachie and Craig MacLean, we will

:22:43. > :22:50.leave that at the moment, the flying lap for Anna Meares. It was the

:22:51. > :22:53.Commonwealth record for her team-mate Stephanie Morton and for

:22:54. > :22:59.Anna Meares a little bit slower, what do you make of that Chris?

:23:00. > :23:05.Always interesting when a team-mate sticks in a fast time before you go,

:23:06. > :23:08.it was an impressive time from Stephanie Morton. Anna Meares will

:23:09. > :23:14.be disappointed with that but she is still second fastest, it clearly

:23:15. > :23:25.shows the class of the raid from Stephanie Morton. She had a year off

:23:26. > :23:30.after 2012, she is still a little bit on the comeback trail? Yes,

:23:31. > :23:36.feeling her way through and working towards the Rio Olympic Games. The

:23:37. > :23:43.conditions you are slightly different, 1.2 seconds slower than

:23:44. > :24:21.the men's time. I was thinking should be around

:24:22. > :24:27.11.2, 11.1 level, today she did 11.5, 11.6. Little bit off the pace,

:24:28. > :24:33.the English, but fingers crossed they can be similar to Jason Kenny

:24:34. > :24:39.and work their way back into it. Next is the men's sprint tandem, no

:24:40. > :24:42.rest for the men. We saw the women stand on the first day, you would

:24:43. > :24:48.have thought you would have the women now rather than a quick

:24:49. > :24:52.turnaround like this? Yes it will be interesting for the guys to see if

:24:53. > :24:56.they can come down of that high. Craig and Neal in their home

:24:57. > :25:08.country, the first time Niall has competed for Scotland -- the first

:25:09. > :25:18.time Neil Fahy. You said Craig does not recover very well. Yes, he does

:25:19. > :25:29.not make up big secret of it, but this is the event they would be the

:25:30. > :25:36.favourites in. This is the starting list. Good morning to Simon

:25:37. > :25:42.Brotherton and Rob Hayles in the commentary box. COMMENTATOR: We are

:25:43. > :25:52.almost ready to go there in the qualifying rides in the men's tandem

:25:53. > :25:56.sprint. They were first off yesterday and finished with the

:25:57. > :26:04.bronze medal after a strong ride in the kilometre time trial. That

:26:05. > :26:09.really kept the crowd entertained, when Neil Fachie and Craig MacLean

:26:10. > :26:17.brought it home it almost lifted the roof of the velodrome. There were

:26:18. > :26:19.not many dry eyes in the velodrome and I was one of them without dry

:26:20. > :26:26.eyes. Fantastic performance. and I was one of them without dry

:26:27. > :26:32.Certainly the crowd-pleaser of the games here in the velodrome so far.

:26:33. > :26:41.We get to see it all over again today. This is all about the

:26:42. > :26:46.qualifying time. With it being at tandem they have a little bit longer

:26:47. > :26:55.than the able-bodied sprinters on the regular bikes to ensure that the

:26:56. > :27:05.tandem is rolling along nicely and up to full speed. Sarah Storey is

:27:06. > :27:11.clearly very quick on two feet as well as two wheels as she joins us

:27:12. > :27:18.in the commentary box now. Not much turnaround times for these guys in

:27:19. > :27:23.the tandem? No, the one kilometre time trial yesterday afternoon and

:27:24. > :27:26.no straight into this. But they are used to doing these efforts back to

:27:27. > :27:29.back in training, they will have prepared for this, have known the

:27:30. > :27:33.schedule for many months so it would have been how they prepared to be

:27:34. > :27:44.there for the Commonwealth Games. It is an exciting opportunity to have

:27:45. > :27:50.these events alongside the others. They have produced a good racing so

:27:51. > :27:53.far. It has been incredible, they are knowledgeable crowd, they are

:27:54. > :28:01.aware of what is happening and the great performances and can pick up

:28:02. > :28:05.on the atmosphere, they at least can. The wall of noise that we

:28:06. > :28:11.enjoyed in London seems to have followed us to Glasgow. If you

:28:12. > :28:16.cannot feed of a crowd like that you cannot feed off anything, it truly

:28:17. > :28:25.was a memorable occasion. The tandem slowly gaining pace with each lap

:28:26. > :28:36.that passes. Now they are really starting to wind it up. The

:28:37. > :28:39.tandems, they have not done a big jump out of the saddle, they are

:28:40. > :28:45.winding it up in the saddle which is a really difficult thing to do. It

:28:46. > :28:50.is about trying to keep it as low on the track as possible, as close to

:28:51. > :28:51.the inside line, which is not as straightforward when you are riding

:28:52. > :29:05.at tandem. Great time by the Welsh straightforward when you are riding

:29:06. > :29:11.pair. The personal best time is somewhere in the region of 10.6,

:29:12. > :29:14.10.7, 10.7 is a really good marker for these guys in tandem sprint

:29:15. > :29:20.qualification at the World Championships, so it is fantastic to

:29:21. > :29:24.see the Welsh peer, and giving a thumbs up to the crowd. They are

:29:25. > :29:26.lunging towards the line to try and get every thousand other second they

:29:27. > :29:41.can out of the get every thousand other second they

:29:42. > :29:46.a second. We are now looking at Northern Ireland, James Brown,

:29:47. > :29:48.piloted by Dave Readle. James Brown just missed out on a medal at

:29:49. > :29:56.piloted by Dave Readle. James Brown World Championships in Mexico later

:29:57. > :30:01.this year. I think these boys were slightly disappointed yesterday

:30:02. > :30:08.evening. The tandem was drifting out a little bit. Yes they were not on

:30:09. > :30:12.the black line as much as they would have liked. Hopefully they have gone

:30:13. > :30:15.and looked at the videos and looked at what they can do as a pair to

:30:16. > :30:24.make sure they can keep the bike down a little bit this morning.

:30:25. > :30:32.James has a road background as well as being there on the track. This

:30:33. > :30:41.high-powered 200 meter time trial is quite a different kettle of fish.

:30:42. > :30:52.Bronze medallist in London a couple of years ago. Piloted by Damien sure

:30:53. > :30:55.there. Dave Readle comes from an athletics background, he was in

:30:56. > :31:08.field events before coming to cycling.

:31:09. > :31:19.Not quite up as close to the fence as you will see with some of the

:31:20. > :31:25.other bikes. The greater the height you attain, the greater the speed

:31:26. > :31:31.you will achieve in the final 100 metres. The clock is going as they

:31:32. > :31:36.head down the back straight. They are still struggling to keep it

:31:37. > :31:42.inside the line. They are putting everything they have got into the

:31:43. > :31:50.pedals. 11.406, nearly one seconds slower than the Welsh tandem. James

:31:51. > :31:59.Brown and Dave Riegel. A solid right by the Northern Irish pair. -- Dave

:32:00. > :32:14.Readle. It could be an anxious wait for them

:32:15. > :32:19.over the next few minutes. Paul Kennedy of Australia, and Neil

:32:20. > :32:23.Fachie for Scotland are still to come. There is the situation at the

:32:24. > :32:34.moment. Now we are looking at Paul Kennedy.

:32:35. > :32:40.Tom Clarke is the pilot on the front. World bronze medallist this

:32:41. > :32:45.year in a time trial, fourth in the sprint in Mexico at the world

:32:46. > :32:47.Championships. They were just over one second outside the medals

:32:48. > :32:53.yesterday in that kilometre time trial. The second Australian tandem

:32:54. > :32:56.here will be slightly disappointed they could not make it onto the

:32:57. > :32:59.podium yesterday afternoon, so potentially they have a point to

:33:00. > :33:11.prove this morning, living in the shadow of Kieran Modra. They have

:33:12. > :33:16.got the form this year, they have been working together since Mexico

:33:17. > :33:22.in April and they are hoping to achieve a better time this morning.

:33:23. > :33:26.Has it always been six laps for as long as you can remember? It does

:33:27. > :33:29.seem like a generous amount of time to make sure that you are nicely

:33:30. > :33:36.settled and fully ready to do your time. They have always qualified

:33:37. > :33:41.over six laps. The bikes are longer and heavier and the gears are

:33:42. > :33:44.potentially bigger as well and it just takes a bit longer to wind it

:33:45. > :33:48.up. Some of the tendency will see more or less getting straight to the

:33:49. > :33:51.top of the track, going through the signs are bit earlier. This pair

:33:52. > :33:55.have spent longer on the blue line and have now gone straight up to the

:33:56. > :33:59.fence, so everyone has got their own technique for getting to the top of

:34:00. > :34:02.the track and they are looking to expend as little energy as possible

:34:03. > :34:04.while they are doing the wind-up, utilising the banking is of the

:34:05. > :34:18.track and the downhill sections. Can they make it into the top four

:34:19. > :34:23.here and go through to the semifinals? They got out of the

:34:24. > :34:28.saddle there before the final dip into the bottom of the track, trying

:34:29. > :34:32.to gain extra speed. A good line as they come through up towards the

:34:33. > :34:38.line. This is going to be a decent time, second quickest, 10.593.

:34:39. > :34:44.Perhaps a bit slower than they were expecting, but anything under 10.648

:34:45. > :34:47.tandem is about the ballpark you would expect for qualification in

:34:48. > :34:53.the sprint competition. They give a little wave to the crowd. They seem

:34:54. > :34:58.fairly happy with that. You can see them putting the inside of the

:34:59. > :35:01.sprinter's Lane. It is so difficult to keep these tandem stand, the

:35:02. > :35:07.weight and the extra length. The pilot has to work really well with

:35:08. > :35:13.the other cyclists to make sure they can communicate properly about how

:35:14. > :35:21.the bike is going. Their compatriots are on the track already, Kieran

:35:22. > :35:24.Modra, piloted by Jason Niblett. For anyone who was not covering our

:35:25. > :35:30.coverage of the time trial yesterday, Kieran Modra really

:35:31. > :35:34.well-known name in para-cycling and somebody you have known for a long

:35:35. > :35:37.time. He was winning medals in Barcelona 22 years ago in the

:35:38. > :35:47.swimming pool before he turned to para-cycling. His first Paralympic

:35:48. > :35:54.Games was it in South Korea in 1998. He is one of the legends of

:35:55. > :35:58.the sport. He is the world record-holder for the for kilometre

:35:59. > :36:13.-- four kilometre tandem pursuit. They are trying to get to the top of

:36:14. > :36:18.the track as quickly as they They are trying to get to the top of

:36:19. > :36:19.possibly can with the least amount of energy. They will

:36:20. > :36:23.possibly can with the least amount warm up jump on the track to make

:36:24. > :36:27.sure they are fully settled, ready for this particular effort, and they

:36:28. > :36:29.will know exactly what they need to do and exactly what line they need

:36:30. > :36:35.to follow is get the do and exactly what line they need

:36:36. > :36:38.themselves. Two silver medals for Kieran Modra at the world

:36:39. > :36:43.Championships this year. And a silver yesterday behind the Scottish

:36:44. > :36:48.tandem. Kieran Modra is not a person who likes to come second! They will

:36:49. > :36:49.be looking to see if they can upset the Scottish party here today. Such

:36:50. > :37:12.a powerful pair. They are accelerating into the final

:37:13. > :37:14.200. Good line by Jason Niblett. Slingshot into the finishing

:37:15. > :37:23.straight and up towards the line. It is the fastest time, 10.050. They

:37:24. > :37:29.lead the way, Kieran Modra and Australia knocking Matthew Ellis of

:37:30. > :37:33.Wales off the top of the leaderboard here in this qualifying series. An

:37:34. > :37:37.impressive qualification there by the Australian tandem. They were so

:37:38. > :37:41.fast out of the saddle, really trying to wind up the big dear, much

:37:42. > :37:44.bigger than their compatriots rode in the

:37:45. > :37:45.bigger than their compatriots rode they came round and just got faster

:37:46. > :38:08.and fast as the 200 metres went on. Kieran Modra has laid down the time

:38:09. > :38:11.to beat. One more tandem to come, and the noise tells you that Neil

:38:12. > :38:16.Fachie and Craig MacLean are out onto the track now. It will be

:38:17. > :38:20.interesting to see how they have recovered, or how Craig has

:38:21. > :38:24.recovered from his ride yesterday, when he took so much into it looks

:38:25. > :38:32.as if he had shredded his legs to bits by the time he crossed the

:38:33. > :38:36.line. Both riders are in pieces. It is incredible to see the effort that

:38:37. > :38:44.these boys put in to get the huge gears moving. They really have to

:38:45. > :38:48.hang on in that final half lap yesterday afternoon. It was a huge

:38:49. > :38:53.effort and they managed to beat the Australians. They are looking very

:38:54. > :38:59.cool, calm and collected. Craig's Gaze is not one that you want to

:39:00. > :39:06.cross. They have been working on those legs to get them back in shape

:39:07. > :39:14.for today. A quick turnaround. Ten seconds...

:39:15. > :39:21.They came down to the track early to get a warm up and then they would

:39:22. > :39:24.have been onto the track for a couple of warm up jumps to test out

:39:25. > :39:28.their legs and see where they are and make a final decision on the

:39:29. > :39:31.gear selection am looking at the temperature and air pressure within

:39:32. > :39:45.the velodrome to make sure they get the optimum gear size for the

:39:46. > :39:48.conditions. Neil Fachie is settling in very well behind Craig MacLean so

:39:49. > :40:02.far, although he normally writes with an

:40:03. > :40:07.The spectators have to stay well back, and the cameras. They could

:40:08. > :40:11.brush these riders very easily if back, and the cameras. They could

:40:12. > :40:16.they got too close. They are going to get the bell next time, and you

:40:17. > :40:20.will see this final big effort and the back straight before they really

:40:21. > :40:24.press on the pedals. Here we go, the big effort for the 200 metres for

:40:25. > :40:27.Neil Fachie and Craig MacLean is about to start. Look at the pace

:40:28. > :40:32.there. He is laying it all about to start. Look at the pace

:40:33. > :40:37.the track in a bid to set the fastest time. Look at them go! They

:40:38. > :40:39.are going so fast. The bike went out there in the straight. This is so

:40:40. > :40:45.impressive. there in the straight. This is so

:40:46. > :40:51.time, just a bit slower than Kieran Modra from Australia, 10.213, still

:40:52. > :40:57.very quick for eight tandem. An incredible position to be in. Coming

:40:58. > :41:00.from a gold medal last night and getting back on the track this

:41:01. > :41:04.morning... We were talking yesterday about how long the straights are,

:41:05. > :41:07.when you come out of the banking, the finish line is just a bit

:41:08. > :41:10.further down the straight than it is at Manchester or some of the other

:41:11. > :41:16.velodrome is that these have been racing on. They were desperate to

:41:17. > :41:23.get that finish line there, head down, not looking where they are

:41:24. > :41:26.going. Second fastest qualifiers. The fastest qualifier is Kieran

:41:27. > :41:32.Modra from Australia. Neil Fachie from Scotland, posting the second

:41:33. > :41:45.fastest time with Craig MacLean. The tandem to miss out on the next

:41:46. > :42:14.round is from Northern Ireland, James Brown.

:42:15. > :42:23.Another face-off between Neil Fachie and Craig MacLean, Kieran Modra and

:42:24. > :42:27.Jason Niblett. I guess the psychology of sport here is seen in

:42:28. > :42:30.a clear relief. You have the champions last night against the

:42:31. > :42:35.beating Aussies. Who responds the best? It is fascinating, because

:42:36. > :42:39.when I was racing, even when you are exhausted and have saw a legs, if

:42:40. > :42:44.you have won the night before, morality is such a massive thing to

:42:45. > :42:50.have on your side. The Australians have clearly not been dissuaded

:42:51. > :43:02.since last night. They have come back thinking that today's a new

:43:03. > :43:06.day. It is interesting because, essentially, it is Craig on the

:43:07. > :43:09.front, Jason Niblett on the front for Australia, they used to race

:43:10. > :43:15.against each other in this print many years ago. It is a few old

:43:16. > :43:21.rivalries coming back. And because these two pairs are so far ahead of

:43:22. > :43:27.the others, the motivation for Craig and for Neils who really smashed it,

:43:28. > :43:30.that is perhaps not quite there. They would have liked to have gone

:43:31. > :43:33.out there and done the fastest time you leave for the psychology,

:43:34. > :43:37.showing that they are the quickest pair. It will not affect this

:43:38. > :43:40.evening, really because they should get to the next round really

:43:41. > :43:44.comfortable in and then meet up with the Australians in the final. It is

:43:45. > :43:49.good to know, when you go to the start line, that you are quick ride

:43:50. > :43:56.and have done the faster time trial. We are going to head out to the

:43:57. > :44:00.track. Best free to decide who goes through

:44:01. > :44:09.to the semifinals. Stephanie Morton was the fastest

:44:10. > :44:15.qualifier, setting a new record Stephanie Morton was the fastest

:44:16. > :44:21.the first event of the morning, the qualifying event which sets the

:44:22. > :44:30.scene for this competition. A big test for Danny Khan. Yes, Danny Khan

:44:31. > :44:34.is the slowest of the qualifiers, 0.7 seconds slower than the

:44:35. > :44:38.Australian Stephanie Morton. But it is all about match sprinting now. It

:44:39. > :44:45.is going to be tactics. It is going to be a big ASCII for Danny Khan,

:44:46. > :44:49.the English rider in the back. She is the world junior champion, but it

:44:50. > :44:53.is such a big step up when you are racing with the seniors for the

:44:54. > :44:58.first time. Here we go on the last lap. Stephanie Morton looks pretty

:44:59. > :45:02.comfortable there. She is holding Danny Khan at arm's length as they

:45:03. > :45:05.head towards the line. I have got the feeling that Stephanie Morton

:45:06. > :45:11.had a Nvidia or to, should it have been required. I do not think the

:45:12. > :45:17.Australian rider was pushed too much there. Danny Khan was tucked tightly

:45:18. > :45:24.in her slipstream, gave herself no real room to manoeuvre to run at

:45:25. > :45:29.Stephanie Morton, probably because of the fact of the speed difference.

:45:30. > :45:36.She did not have the speed to do it. It was always going to be a tough

:45:37. > :45:41.ask for her. Very promising young rider, Danny Khan. Extremely

:45:42. > :45:45.promising, and this is a good opportunity, it is good that she

:45:46. > :45:51.qualified so that she gets the experience of match sprinting

:45:52. > :46:00.against riders like the Australian Stephanie Morton.

:46:01. > :46:07.There is Stephanie Morton, he was going to be a very prominent feature

:46:08. > :46:11.in this women's sprint competition. Now, Jenny Davis from Scotland, she

:46:12. > :46:17.has got a lot on her plate, with Anna Meares and Jenny Davis, the

:46:18. > :46:28.silver medallist in the Commonwealth Games four years ago in India.

:46:29. > :46:33.Looking for the crowds to really get behind her. I don't think she

:46:34. > :46:37.necessarily needs to ask them to do that, because the crowd have been

:46:38. > :46:41.very good at getting behind all the riders here. It is an extremely

:46:42. > :46:43.vocal crowd here, but I think out of all these first rounds, I think this

:46:44. > :47:07.is probably the toughest one. there is nobody better than the

:47:08. > :47:14.Australian currently on the track. She has a tough job on her hands

:47:15. > :47:18.here, Jenny. But what an experience, in front of your home

:47:19. > :47:29.crowd, to be riding against the great Anna Meares. The crowded doing

:47:30. > :47:41.their bit to purge Jenny Davis on. Anna Meares, stony faced. --. She

:47:42. > :47:47.has got the tactics and she has got the speed. She will do what she

:47:48. > :47:57.feels is the minimum required to make sure she takes this first heat.

:47:58. > :47:58.Jenny Davis on her hip all the way up, not a problem at

:47:59. > :48:02.Jenny Davis on her hip all the way up, not a problem all in that first

:48:03. > :48:14.raid, best of three. Strong start from Anna Meares, as expected. Anna

:48:15. > :48:20.Meares swooping down and taking control of the race, taking it by

:48:21. > :48:22.the scruff of the neck. You have to keep your wits about you,

:48:23. > :48:27.the scruff of the neck. You have to keep your wits you can get caught

:48:28. > :48:34.unawares, we have seen it so often in the past where on paper a rider

:48:35. > :48:41.slower than yourself can take you by surprise. Relaxed and confident but

:48:42. > :48:42.with her guard up, she rode extremely competently there as

:48:43. > :48:58.expected. Next up onto the track, and all

:48:59. > :49:20.English quarterfinal between Jess varnish and Victoria Williamson.

:49:21. > :49:27.To help you differentiate between the riders, Jess varnish has white

:49:28. > :49:39.gloves and Victoria Williamson has black gloves. Probably the easiest

:49:40. > :49:45.way of telling them apart. Williamson leading the way on the

:49:46. > :49:52.opening lap. She is obliged to take the first lap at least at walking

:49:53. > :50:09.pace unless Jessica Varnish decides to take over. Who will decide to

:50:10. > :50:15.take the lead in the final lap? Some riders prepare to take the lead,

:50:16. > :50:19.others prefer to rest in behind. We have a longer straight on this track

:50:20. > :50:20.so it is a bit easier to go from behind might use this slingshot

:50:21. > :50:30.effect, the slipstream effect. Two behind might use this slingshot

:50:31. > :50:51.in the way that they write the sprint. -- the right --

:50:52. > :50:56.Jessica Varnish trains to be the lead rider in the

:50:57. > :51:01.Jessica Varnish trains to be the can have an affect on top end

:51:02. > :51:05.but did not show that earlier on in qualification. They

:51:06. > :51:13.but did not show that earlier on in that rule in the past couple of

:51:14. > :51:16.but did not show that earlier on in years -- that position. Williamson

:51:17. > :51:18.winning the bronze medal last year. Alongside Becky James.

:51:19. > :51:26.winning the bronze medal last year. Varnish back in the team this year

:51:27. > :51:33.and doing exactly the same. Trying to get Williamson to speed up,

:51:34. > :51:36.taking height and running at higher and dives underneath

:51:37. > :51:42.taking height and running at higher control. Eight Mac takes control and

:51:43. > :51:49.takes the inside line. It is a lot now for Vicki Williamson to do to

:51:50. > :51:54.try to get back on level terms. Williamson pushing her all the way

:51:55. > :51:55.but by up by a bike length it is Jessica Varnish who takes the first

:51:56. > :52:11.in a best-of-3/4-final. Jessica Varnish who takes the first

:52:12. > :52:19.best-of-3, quarterfinal. Williamson just losing her footing the, losing

:52:20. > :52:23.a bit of traction as she went up the track, she thought that Jessica

:52:24. > :52:26.Varnish was going to try and come over the top of her around the

:52:27. > :52:33.outside and at the last minute Jessica Varnish dived underneath and

:52:34. > :52:37.by the time she realised it was too late. Jessica Varnish got the inside

:52:38. > :52:49.line and had the control and kept Williamson on her hip all the way.

:52:50. > :53:03.The pressure is now all on Williamson. The fourth and final

:53:04. > :53:08.heat coming up now. Stephanie Morton, Anna Meares and Jessica

:53:09. > :53:16.Varnish taking the early lead in these quarterfinals. Stephanie

:53:17. > :53:23.McKenzie is 21 years of age, says that her goal is to ultimately

:53:24. > :53:26.become the one number one two sure that you can still do it and become

:53:27. > :53:32.the best in the world even with type one diabetes. It needs careful

:53:33. > :53:38.management. She is doing a lot in her life, training in the gym six

:53:39. > :53:45.times a week, she studies and holds down a couple of jobs as well. Up

:53:46. > :53:58.against the Malaysian here in yellow and black, the Malaysian sprint

:53:59. > :54:04.champion. She has had a reasonable success in the last 12 months or so

:54:05. > :54:19.in the World Cup meetings. Ranked fifth in the world. McKenzie the

:54:20. > :54:24.Kiwi on the front. Both riders here early evenly matched from

:54:25. > :54:30.qualification. Slight advantage to McKenzie but only by a 10th of a

:54:31. > :54:35.second. This will all come down to tactics. Here you can see the New

:54:36. > :54:44.Zealand are just trying to hold the Malaysian at the top of the track.

:54:45. > :54:53.Was not able to close the door as she pushed her up towards the top of

:54:54. > :54:58.the track. McKenzie momentarily out of the saddle as she tries to close

:54:59. > :55:12.the gap year. Coming around the finishing straight, it is the

:55:13. > :55:21.Malaysian who takes it by half a wheel. Just tucked a bit too tight.

:55:22. > :55:26.If she had let another bike length or too tight. If she had let another

:55:27. > :55:29.bike length or to run in the slipstream before you come out and

:55:30. > :55:36.hit the wind. This was the key moment here. Yes she tried to keep

:55:37. > :55:42.the Malaysian rider on her hip and block her out but once you get the

:55:43. > :55:49.handlebars in front, the Malaysian able to use the height advantage

:55:50. > :55:54.from the track to use that run. The Kiwi not able to get out with the

:55:55. > :56:00.speed advantage coming into the home straight. She had to use her

:56:01. > :56:09.strength but just ran out of revolutions. Another couple and the

:56:10. > :56:17.Kiwi rider would have had the advantage but just ran out of track.

:56:18. > :56:36.A photo finish but the Malaysian clearly the winner.

:56:37. > :56:42.The tandem semifinals coming up shortly but a quick bit of analysis

:56:43. > :56:47.on those sprints. You were particularly impressed with how Anna

:56:48. > :56:54.Meares qualified with the minimum of fuss? Yes that was the textbook way

:56:55. > :56:59.to get through. Trying to control the race, not wasting any energy,

:57:00. > :57:02.taking the front and keeping Jenny Davis close, right where she wants

:57:03. > :57:07.her, that is the bell and they have still not started sprinting. Waiting

:57:08. > :57:12.for Jenny to make her move and then she reacts to it, keeps her close

:57:13. > :57:18.and she has only done a half lap of effort to get through. What is going

:57:19. > :57:21.through the mind of Jenny Davis? Talking about the privilege of

:57:22. > :57:29.racing against Anna Meares on a home track, but slightly GBS. She will

:57:30. > :57:36.have to go early and try to attack her when she is not expecting it.

:57:37. > :57:40.Anna Meares is very crafty. You do not want to beat them by a country

:57:41. > :57:47.mile because it is almost a bit disrespectful, you want to win with

:57:48. > :57:55.the minimum amount of fuss. Classy stuff from Anna Meares.

:57:56. > :58:05.COMMENTATOR: Underway in the first of the semifinals in the tandem

:58:06. > :58:13.sprint. Kennedy with Tom Clarke on the front. Tom Clark with the black

:58:14. > :58:28.gloves on. Jason Niblett piloting Kieran Modra. Jason Niblett is the

:58:29. > :58:32.rider without gloves. Head to head racing in the tandem, we have had

:58:33. > :58:36.the time trial, we have had the qualification, now it really starts

:58:37. > :58:41.to get interesting when you have got more than one tandem on the track at

:58:42. > :58:45.the same time. This is where the action really starts. On paper it

:58:46. > :59:02.should be the peering at the back there. -- the pair.

:59:03. > :59:07.The other way of telling them apart is that Kieran Modra is physically

:59:08. > :59:14.and much bigger man than Paul Kennedy. Kieran Modra and Jason

:59:15. > :59:26.Niblett still up closer to the banking. Behind the Kennedy tandem.

:59:27. > :59:39.Slowly winding it up here. In this first semifinal. Jason Niblett and

:59:40. > :59:45.Kieran Modra staying with the height advantage at the back. Kennedy and

:59:46. > :59:51.Clarke moving to the middle of the track, trying to block of any

:59:52. > :00:01.attack, keeping them hide. -- blocked off. Speeding up and trying

:00:02. > :00:05.to take around at Clark and Kennedy. Kennedy leading the way. Here comes

:00:06. > :00:09.Kieran Modra, Jason Niblett the pilot, trying to go around the

:00:10. > :00:13.outside as they come to the finishing straight and they have the

:00:14. > :00:22.speed, they have the pace and the early lead here. Not a problem there

:00:23. > :00:26.at all for Kieran Modra. He wrote that superbly, knew they had the

:00:27. > :00:37.speed advantage and they waited and waited. -- he rode. Cruised over the

:00:38. > :00:45.top, they came the Long Way round but they had so much more speed, not

:00:46. > :00:49.a problem whatsoever. That semifinal going to form, Kieran Modra

:00:50. > :00:54.five-time Paralympic champion and he was the fastest qualifier. Looked

:00:55. > :00:58.pretty impressive there as he overtook Paul Kennedy as they came

:00:59. > :01:07.off the banking and into the finishing straight. Sarah Storey

:01:08. > :01:12.back in the commentary box I and elated to say, impressive right

:01:13. > :01:22.there from Kieran Modra, pretty much what we expected? Yes, an incredibly

:01:23. > :01:26.powerful pair, we expected these would leave it as late as the cute,

:01:27. > :01:32.allow their compatriots to dictate the pace, stay high on the track to

:01:33. > :01:36.have the element of surprise and the extra height if they needed it. But

:01:37. > :01:41.once Kieran Modra turned on the afterburners there was no doubting

:01:42. > :01:51.that they would pass their countrymen and eased off at the end

:01:52. > :01:55.as well. The second semifinal is just moments away. Various Matthew

:01:56. > :02:01.Ellis from Wales, up against the Scottish pair, 42-year-old Craig

:02:02. > :02:14.MacLean, still going strong. Scottish pair, 42-year-old Craig

:02:15. > :02:19.Fachie is the six time world champion. He is a world record

:02:20. > :02:23.holder as well. Paralympic champion, gold and silver from London 2012,

:02:24. > :02:30.second It has not been long since this pair

:02:31. > :02:44.qualified. It is one of the down of It has not been long since this pair

:02:45. > :02:49.qualifying last. It is a matter of minutes, the turnaround. They will

:02:50. > :02:53.have got off the track as quickly as they could after the qualification,

:02:54. > :02:57.onto the rollers and turbo, trying to keep their legs lose and trying

:02:58. > :03:01.to stay warm. It is potentially cooler in the velodrome this morning

:03:02. > :03:07.than it has been. Keeping the legs moving is very important. Use a

:03:08. > :03:10.slightly cooler, but most people in the crowd would probably say it is

:03:11. > :03:16.very warm in here. For the uninitiated, could you explain the

:03:17. > :03:20.difference in temperature makes? The warmer the temperature, the thinner

:03:21. > :03:24.the air, so the easier it is to move through the air. When the air is

:03:25. > :03:28.cold, it feels like you have got extra resistance on your bike, and

:03:29. > :03:31.it feels like you are pushing against something, not just the

:03:32. > :03:37.petals, so it is better when it is warmer, though there is a tipping

:03:38. > :03:40.point. Abby World Championships in Mexico in April, the seat of the

:03:41. > :03:46.velodrome reached about 45 Celsius in the middle of the day, which

:03:47. > :03:52.became oppressive. Suddenly you start to wilt instead of going

:03:53. > :03:58.faster. And if you are doing at race and you get a scratch, as I was

:03:59. > :04:03.doing on the final day, you wonder about the sense of trying to take a

:04:04. > :04:12.lap on your own. We are watching Wales against Scotland in this

:04:13. > :04:25.semifinal in the tandem sprint. Neil Fachie and Craig MacLean at the

:04:26. > :04:30.back. You need your wits about you constantly in sprint racing. Craig

:04:31. > :04:34.is being clever, sitting in a blind spot of the Welsh tandem. One of the

:04:35. > :04:43.things that you have on a tandem that you don't have any solo -- on a

:04:44. > :04:47.solo is a blind spot. The closer they sit behind the Welsh pair, the

:04:48. > :04:54.harder it is for you in Williams to see what they are doing. Not

:04:55. > :05:01.planning to waste any energy at the moment. They want to make sure that

:05:02. > :05:03.the Welsh do the work. He wants them to dictate the pace and for him and

:05:04. > :05:17.kneel to react from that. You can see the pay is visibly

:05:18. > :05:23.increasing with every revolution of the pedals, as we had to wards -- as

:05:24. > :05:32.we head towards the sprint of this first raced, the best-of-3. The

:05:33. > :05:38.Welsh will wind up the speed to try to nullify the Scottish pair.

:05:39. > :05:42.Straight down to the bottom of the track, well into the sprint, and

:05:43. > :05:49.look at the pace of the Scottish tandem. Matt Ellis and Ieuan

:05:50. > :05:52.Williams try to resist. It was taken comfortably in the end by Neil

:05:53. > :05:58.Fachie and Craig MacLean. That was perfectly executed. The bigger gear

:05:59. > :06:03.on the Scottish tandem told there on the final lap. The Welsh pair looked

:06:04. > :06:14.to be spinning out slightly, while Craig and kneel were going around

:06:15. > :06:18.comfortably -- and Neil Fachie. Kieran Modra from Australia was the

:06:19. > :06:22.fastest qualifier, leading fellow Australian Paul Kennedy, and the

:06:23. > :06:27.early lead has been taken by Craig MacLean and Neil Fachie for Scotland

:06:28. > :06:30.over the Welsh pair, who will have to win the next right, otherwise it

:06:31. > :06:32.will be Scotland through with another chance to win gold, just as

:06:33. > :06:43.they did yesterday. Craig is checking the big screen as

:06:44. > :06:46.they are crossing the finish line, seeing that they have qualified

:06:47. > :06:50.comfortably. The Welsh tandem will have to go back into the centre and

:06:51. > :06:56.work out how they are going to take the next right and otherwise they

:06:57. > :06:58.will be into the bronze medal ride. The Scots will have another chance

:06:59. > :07:05.to win gold in front of a home crowd. The next race on the track

:07:06. > :07:14.will be the men's qualifying heat, and I think that Craig MacLean and

:07:15. > :07:18.Neil Fachie are glad that it is one of the longer races, so they can

:07:19. > :07:24.have some time before they come back out.

:07:25. > :07:30.Result is expected in those semifinals. But very different

:07:31. > :07:35.qualifying for the Scottish pair as opposed to the Australian pair, much

:07:36. > :07:39.easier for the Australians. Yes, it is one of the benefits of qualifying

:07:40. > :07:42.high up there, you are going to get a slower opponents in the sprint

:07:43. > :07:47.rounds. They did not look particularly bothered there. They

:07:48. > :07:49.got through comfortably. It was still a comfortable ride for Craig

:07:50. > :07:52.MacLean and Neil Fachie, but they rode it very well and kept the

:07:53. > :07:56.sprint as short as possible, and they did not want to get caught in a

:07:57. > :08:00.longer drag races starting three laps out, because it will sap their

:08:01. > :08:02.energy and they are trying to get through with a minimum amount of

:08:03. > :08:18.fuss before the final against the Australians. The Aussies are canny

:08:19. > :08:26.when it comes to sport. There might have been an arrangement where the

:08:27. > :08:28.fastest in qualifying will go through if they happen to meet each

:08:29. > :08:32.other... You will have to ask them that! Why track has anything like

:08:33. > :08:36.that happened before in your career? You can never prove it, and

:08:37. > :08:40.often in a match sprint situation, you would find yourself needing

:08:41. > :08:45.riders from the same country in different rounds, and they would be

:08:46. > :08:48.trying to pull all sort of different manoeuvres to waste your energy when

:08:49. > :08:51.they didn't think they were going to get through, perhaps you might meet

:08:52. > :08:57.one of their team-mates later on. And when you think you last night,

:08:58. > :09:10.it is tough. One Phil Mercer, but one is enough! -- one kilometre. You

:09:11. > :09:13.come down to my hours before the start of the session for a long

:09:14. > :09:17.preparation. All these things combine, you are trying to save

:09:18. > :09:24.every ounce of effort for when it really counts, but mixed states --

:09:25. > :09:28.the stakes are made. I lost a round in the European Championships a few

:09:29. > :09:34.years ago trying to conserve energy, sat up way too early and I was

:09:35. > :09:37.beaten. So things can happen. It is not always predictable. You

:09:38. > :09:42.certainly have got the sense that the Australians have come out really

:09:43. > :09:45.pumped. The Commonwealth Games are massive for the nations, but the

:09:46. > :09:50.Aussies love to come away from Australia and try to beat us over

:09:51. > :09:54.here. We went to Melbourne in 2006 and one a few medals, but the

:09:55. > :09:59.Aussies always dominant in the Commonwealth Games. It is nice to

:10:00. > :10:03.get the odd medal. Thank you very much. We will come back to the

:10:04. > :10:06.velodrome later on for the tandem sprint semifinals to see who goes

:10:07. > :10:11.through to the semifinals of the women's sprint quarterfinals, but

:10:12. > :10:15.for the moment, back to Dougie Fife bond.

:10:16. > :10:24.HMS Banga is a mine hunter, if you are into that kind of information,

:10:25. > :10:30.and she is sitting on the quayside for the duration of the Commonwealth

:10:31. > :10:36.Games. If you happen to come down here today, there will be a flotilla

:10:37. > :10:39.of 250 ships, which left Greenock at 10:30am and are expected at 1pm, but

:10:40. > :10:43.it might be a wee bit later 10:30am and are expected at 1pm, but

:10:44. > :10:49.there is no wind. We will hopefully brings you pictures of that, along

:10:50. > :10:51.with pictures of all the sport that is happening today. At the SECC,

:10:52. > :10:56.Gemma Gibbons, who can forget is happening today. At the SECC,

:10:57. > :10:57.emotional scenes at London 2012? She was in action this morning, and here

:10:58. > :11:08.is what happened in the semifinals. Gemma Gibbons of England.

:11:09. > :11:37.CameroonCameroon Gemma Gibbons of England.

:11:38. > :11:38.game plan. She must not deviate. Look at the determination there, not

:11:39. > :11:58.fazed. I think we are going to see a bit

:11:59. > :12:00.too much experience here for the Cameroon player. But anything can

:12:01. > :12:32.happen in judo. Just not quite on the side.

:12:33. > :12:40.Gibbons, now got the grip. That is what she is looking for, just to

:12:41. > :12:45.settle. Long arms there. Got to keep a hold. Now Gemma

:12:46. > :12:48.settle. Long arms there. Got to keep around. Now she has to get the other

:12:49. > :12:52.leg out. She will around. Now she has to get the other

:12:53. > :13:00.this led out. And Hortense Mballa Atangana won't be able to stop it.

:13:01. > :13:06.this led out. And Hortense Mballa this time. Gemma Gibbons of

:13:07. > :13:17.England, the Olympic silver medallist. Nice bit there. She takes

:13:18. > :13:24.the lead out -- the leg out and she is in the hold. She is not giving

:13:25. > :13:37.up... She just gave up! I was just going to see, she just did not have

:13:38. > :13:45.enough in the tank. Gemma Gibbons is through to the final.

:13:46. > :13:53.A bit much for Atangana. She will have one more match.

:13:54. > :14:04.A bit much for Atangana. side of the draw and she

:14:05. > :14:12.the winner of the opposite repechage. So this is what started

:14:13. > :14:20.it. It was a poor attack from Atangana. Gemma Gibbons climbs over

:14:21. > :14:23.one leg, tries to take the lead out first of all, but then she will

:14:24. > :14:28.switch it over. She will change her balance, come over onto her

:14:29. > :14:31.backside, make sure that she has got her head in the control. She will

:14:32. > :14:40.pull the top leg, push the bottom one with the other foot, and had it

:14:41. > :14:46.comes. And you said that Atangana didn't give up, she did not give up

:14:47. > :14:52.all the way through, but it was too much. Gemma Gibbons goes through to

:14:53. > :14:57.the final. Congratulations to Gemma Gibbons, through to the final

:14:58. > :15:01.tonight. She is married to the Scotland flag bearer Euan Burton,

:15:02. > :15:06.and he was a great disappointment at the Olympics in 2012. He was

:15:07. > :15:10.retired, but now he is back, beating. He made the semifinals this

:15:11. > :15:21.morning as well. Let's see him in action.

:15:22. > :15:43.He effortlessly stepped aside. Can he take it now? Can he control the

:15:44. > :15:49.top half and get the lead at? He needs to get that led out, and then

:15:50. > :15:53.the clock will start for the hold, he is pushing there with a good grip

:15:54. > :15:56.on the top. The referee should leave it for a little while. He is

:15:57. > :16:02.dragging it out. Can he wrote eight? It has a great grip. Can he

:16:03. > :16:09.keep him there? He is proving to be extremely strong. Now he has the

:16:10. > :16:13.hold, he takes the lead and repositions. Can he keep control of

:16:14. > :16:32.the legs? Has he got a really strong grip? Kanykin control?

:16:33. > :16:40.is still in the contest. You were right about the leg, was just not

:16:41. > :16:44.tight enough. We were talking about getting rid of the perspiration

:16:45. > :16:56.before you come on the mat. Just could not keep control. Good leads

:16:57. > :17:24.your free Euan Burton. -- good leads your -- good lead here. Koster will

:17:25. > :17:33.receive a penalty for stepping out. There he is, driving him over, he

:17:34. > :17:35.has great control. Needs to pull him back into position, used a leg to

:17:36. > :17:47.pull him back, get the shoulder down. Got a strangle on there. It is

:17:48. > :18:04.definitely on. Pushing as hard as he can. That is what he came here for.

:18:05. > :18:25.Koster Held on for as long as he possibly could. But he tapped out.

:18:26. > :18:36.Euan Burton of Scotland it is who takes the contest from Koster of New

:18:37. > :18:45.Zealand. He was the number one seed here, Koster, Euan Burton came in as

:18:46. > :18:55.number four but he walks out of that contest the winner. This is the

:18:56. > :19:04.point at which Euan Burton is attempting to apply the strangle.

:19:05. > :19:13.This is when Koster asked to tap out. Held on for as long as he

:19:14. > :19:19.could. He did but there is no getting out of that.

:19:20. > :19:28.Great victory for Euan Burton, and his wife Gemma Gibbons also in the

:19:29. > :19:33.final and we wish them well indeed. There is a lot of excitement about

:19:34. > :19:40.the bowlers side that Scotland have put together. Scotland are taking on

:19:41. > :20:05.South Africa. COMMENTATOR: That is a very good

:20:06. > :20:28.shot from Irene. Almost level with the Jack.

:20:29. > :20:52.Her final delivery, will be hoping for a similar result. Good attempt.

:20:53. > :21:10.You can see the director there. The last ball from Irene just swapping

:21:11. > :21:24.around the first, lovely waited bowl. MacArthur was involved in

:21:25. > :21:34.providing a couple of Twitter messages for Scotland. Very

:21:35. > :22:03.diplomatic, South Africa will be a challenge, but we have no fears.

:22:04. > :22:11.Touch on the high line. Little bit tighter he could have got a good

:22:12. > :22:39.result. Following a very good line with that

:22:40. > :23:09.bowl. Little edge of the front bowl. Ended

:23:10. > :23:22.up in a great position. Very good waited bowl. Interesting to see if

:23:23. > :23:37.there is more than a single in that. Two shots being indicated.

:23:38. > :23:47.South Africa in the area. if it

:23:48. > :23:59.South Africa in the area. close. Very good

:24:00. > :24:28.Slightly favouring the Scotland bowl. From our point of view. I

:24:29. > :24:42.would agree with you. I think he would be just as well

:24:43. > :25:23.indicating it is a measure. We have to be a little bit careful

:25:24. > :25:33.here with two South African bowls on either side on the way in. A lot

:25:34. > :26:03.will depend on if he feels he has shot or not.

:26:04. > :26:21.Might get a back rub off Irene's. Good effort. Caught between not

:26:22. > :26:36.wanting to be too tight. There was danger either side. We will see what

:26:37. > :26:43.the South African Robo. -- what the South African will do. Again it

:26:44. > :28:06.depends on if he feels he has shot. They even talk about how they

:28:07. > :28:11.deliver the Jack, it is always good skill for the leader to have, to hit

:28:12. > :28:18.exactly were they wanted to go. It is a very important skill indeed.

:28:19. > :28:23.Especially as the match progresses, you might want to change the length

:28:24. > :28:27.dramatically to either put the opposition of the favoured length,

:28:28. > :28:31.or give yourself a better chance. Always try to lead to your favoured

:28:32. > :28:56.length. -- try to play to. Just messing with her first, Irene,

:28:57. > :29:44.little bit short and tight. -- just missing.

:29:45. > :29:52.You can see the concentration on the faces of these players. They are

:29:53. > :29:58.very focused. That is a good correction. Going through a little

:29:59. > :30:06.bit but never goes astray when they are behind. Just an over correction

:30:07. > :30:14.from her first bowl which she dropped short. It is often thought

:30:15. > :30:24.that it is easier to take that little bit of weight off. These

:30:25. > :30:27.greens can be quite tricky when you are trying to adjust just small

:30:28. > :30:33.amounts of weight given that they are quite pushy Greens, it is very

:30:34. > :30:44.easy to over correct. Has made a lovely bowl on this occasion. That

:30:45. > :30:47.is a really good correction. STUDIO: As with all sports you will be able

:30:48. > :31:04.to catch up with that on the website. We wish them all the best.

:31:05. > :31:06.was going for her last ever routine in the final. Here is how she got

:31:07. > :31:13.on. Frankie Jones. Can she produce a

:31:14. > :31:38.golden performance? Frankie Jones from Wales. A final

:31:39. > :32:09.performance of what has been a truly memorable championship for her.

:32:10. > :32:38.Bringing all her experience to bear here.

:32:39. > :33:01.Wonderful choice of music. She is living it totally.

:33:02. > :33:17.red of Wales is right by it. It was an unbelievable Commonwealth

:33:18. > :33:26.red of Wales is right by it. It was for Frankie Jones, great to see her,

:33:27. > :33:28.23 years old. Look at her, relaxing through the shoulders, her whole

:33:29. > :33:35.body language. Now she can through the shoulders, her whole

:33:36. > :33:40.And she has just grown with confidence throughout these

:33:41. > :33:44.championships. Her first performance on the first day was a bit edgy, but

:33:45. > :33:48.once she had that under her belt, it has really been a joy to watch her,

:33:49. > :33:53.because over the years, we have watched her being quite nerdy on the

:33:54. > :33:57.moments that mattered, and she has been quite mature in this

:33:58. > :34:10.competition. It has all come together.

:34:11. > :34:19.Beautiful work. She is really quite a complete gymnast, supple and

:34:20. > :34:29.strong, nothing looks forced. She looks in really good shape. In the

:34:30. > :34:32.shape and in control. The national coach for Wales, rhythmic coach Joe

:34:33. > :34:39.shape and in control. The national Combs. She has got every reason to

:34:40. > :34:47.be happy with that. In the lead by some distance, for Frankie Jones.

:34:48. > :34:53.The audience rising to it. That was a beautiful performance. She is

:34:54. > :34:57.accepting the plaudits, and so she should. What a week to finish her

:34:58. > :36:07.Commonwealth Games. A lovely, easy style. Really good

:36:08. > :36:13.control. The speed and the busyness of the ribbon all the while, varying

:36:14. > :36:41.the shapes. Wonderful extension through the

:36:42. > :37:04.ankles. Write up on the toes all the time. Secure handling.

:37:05. > :37:13.That is a strong challenge. Very strong challenge! The young woman

:37:14. > :37:17.that finished off her team-mate right behind her. She qualified in

:37:18. > :37:23.first place, chasing 14.5 for the lead on this occasion. We have

:37:24. > :37:30.always been impressed by the way the Malaysians perform, they present and

:37:31. > :37:34.they project. All of the gymnasts have been really well coached, and

:37:35. > :37:38.they have all performed within their capabilities, so they have not

:37:39. > :37:40.looked distressed. They have been able to give a complete performance,

:37:41. > :38:12.which has been very impressive. Frankie Jones is out there in front

:38:13. > :38:23.at the moment. How wrong for? I have got a sneaking feeling that

:38:24. > :38:42.is all about change. It was a very clean routine.

:38:43. > :38:47.Everything was crisp and precise. 14.25. She has gone into second.

:38:48. > :38:57.Frankie Jones holds onto first place at the moment. Come posing herself

:38:58. > :39:03.one more time, she has had to get herself really to peak performance

:39:04. > :39:08.on six occasions. Five of those have produced gold. Can she do it again?

:39:09. > :39:43.Frankie Jones out there in front at the moment, 14.5 is the time.

:39:44. > :39:51.of line to catch the ribbon. Not a big deduction, but not perfect

:39:52. > :40:01.either. Her body movement is fantastic. And the speed on the

:40:02. > :40:06.vivid, she can whip round three or for so quickly. She has had to take

:40:07. > :40:44.a deduction there. Clean, precise, full of difficulty,

:40:45. > :40:50.but not so full of emotion as some. Eight couple of tiny technical

:40:51. > :40:56.faults, which is so good at reading gaining -- regaining her composure.

:40:57. > :41:05.Can she do it, or will Frankie Jones stay out there in front? I think it

:41:06. > :41:14.is going to be quite tight. So far, this Championships, Patricia

:41:15. > :41:19.Bezzoubenko has scored 13.8 and Frankie Jones has scored 14.5, so if

:41:20. > :41:25.it is her best routine, she can, but there were a couple of mistakes

:41:26. > :41:29.there. There were, but you have to take your hat off to this young

:41:30. > :41:39.lady. She has kept the level always through, as they all have. So many

:41:40. > :41:43.gymnasts have saved their best for this Commonwealth Games. Just 17

:41:44. > :41:48.years old, so she is still relatively young, not a seasoned

:41:49. > :41:52.campaigner, and to be fair, that is what she has looked alike. She has

:41:53. > :41:56.been excellent, wonderful difficulty, and when she gains a bit

:41:57. > :42:01.of maturity, she is going to be a force to be reckoned with, but then

:42:02. > :42:04.she did get a bit tangled. She will probably have missed a bit of

:42:05. > :42:09.difficulty, because the time taken to untangle it is time not spent

:42:10. > :42:20.building your difficulty. So it is going to be tight. 13.8 she scored!

:42:21. > :42:25.This is the Canadian coach, Patricia Bezzoubenko's coach, who has lodged

:42:26. > :42:31.a protest. There is an official means to make a protest, it is quite

:42:32. > :42:36.aboveboard and accepted. Absolutely. Justice has got to be done, and

:42:37. > :42:45.there is a jury for just that eventuality. Enquiry pending, we are

:42:46. > :43:06.told, appear on the big screen -- up here. We have got a decision. It is

:43:07. > :43:11.gold at last. They coax -- Big hugs. An emotional moment for Frankie

:43:12. > :43:17.Jones. Five silver and a gold to finish. Joy and celebration for the

:43:18. > :43:28.Welsh camp. It has been a long wait, but boy, has it been worth it. Look

:43:29. > :43:31.at this. And what a great finish to such a tremendous rhythmic

:43:32. > :43:35.competition. We are used to it being at the end of the championships. We

:43:36. > :43:44.have started with it this time round, and it certainly has lifted

:43:45. > :43:48.to its billing. Look at that. There are tears all round. There are tears

:43:49. > :43:53.here as well, we have got to be honest. A lovely moment. But amongst

:43:54. > :43:57.all the confusing and emotion, Patricia Bezzoubenko's score stays

:43:58. > :44:01.exactly the same. The protest was turned down, she is 13.8, and a

:44:02. > :44:11.bronze medal. But the moment here on the last apparatus goes to Wales's

:44:12. > :44:22.Randy Jones. -- Frankie Jones. The final medal ceremony for individual

:44:23. > :44:30.apparatus. A fabulous moment for Wales and for Frankie Jones. She has

:44:31. > :44:31.turned silver into gold at Wales and for Frankie Jones. She has

:44:32. > :45:07.time of asking. Still relaxed, but there was a

:45:08. > :45:16.moment when her composure disintegrated a bit. Yes, it she was

:45:17. > :45:27.very emotional on the podium yesterday when she took second place

:45:28. > :45:33.all around. This final has set the seal on some really enthralling

:45:34. > :45:46.rhythmic gymnastics. All six gold medals are now

:45:47. > :46:28.winner of the Bronze medal representing Canada, Patricia

:46:29. > :46:43.Five golds coming in but she faltered at the very last hurdle.

:46:44. > :46:44.But it is still a medal, prawns. -- bronze.

:46:45. > :46:50.But it is still a medal, prawns. -- turn your nose up at, but she will

:46:51. > :47:00.be disappointed not to have made the clean sweep.

:47:01. > :47:14.She has got two bronze silver now to go with it. Always

:47:15. > :47:18.have to be taken very seriously, the Malaysian gymnasts. They have

:47:19. > :47:30.something very special. Great performance to take this over medal

:47:31. > :47:39.from her. -- take this silver medal. And the gold medallist and

:47:40. > :47:50.Commonwealth champion, representing Wales, Francesco Jones. The roof

:47:51. > :47:59.will come off. Everyone in this arena will work to this gold medal.

:48:00. > :48:04.Five silvers and at the last time of asking she has turned silver into

:48:05. > :48:13.solid gold. Frankie Jones is triumphant and what up popular gold

:48:14. > :48:24.medal it is. Lovely, unassuming, Frankie Jones takes gold.

:48:25. > :48:37.Ladies and gentlemen, the national anthem of whales. --

:48:38. > :50:08.Not a dry eye in the house. Such are popular gold medal. Frankie Jones

:50:09. > :50:18.applauded by her team-mate Laura. That wonderful unassuming character

:50:19. > :50:21.of hers, they must be so, so proud. She has done it at last. Old Frankie

:50:22. > :50:41.Jones. Five silver and gold, what an

:50:42. > :50:47.achievement. Absolutely fantastic. She has lived up to her billing, she

:50:48. > :50:58.carried the flag for Wales. Celebration now, what a super way to

:50:59. > :51:05.finish these finals. It really has been a tremendous competition here

:51:06. > :51:12.at the Hydro arena. A great start to the gymnastics at the Commonwealth

:51:13. > :51:21.Games. And a fairy tale ending really, seeing her take five silvers

:51:22. > :51:30.and the final one being gold is fabulous. Absolutely the correct

:51:31. > :51:41.word, fabulous. No doubt she will be the most decorated athlete for Wales

:51:42. > :51:48.at these Commonwealth Games. Three very talented and gifted young

:51:49. > :51:58.women. Malaysia, Wales and Canada can be proud of all three. A word

:51:59. > :52:06.about the Canadian, five gold medals. Yes, she is very good, she

:52:07. > :52:09.is dual nationality, Russian and Canadian, she is Ben 's a lot of

:52:10. > :52:15.time training with the Russian team and will obviously be a real

:52:16. > :52:23.powerhouse. -- she spends a lot. She is quite new to the international

:52:24. > :52:37.stage. Those are the medal standings.

:54:15. > :54:18.More from us later, right now back to

:54:19. > :55:17.Commonwealth Games. We will be going to the velodrome later today but

:55:18. > :55:23.earlier we left the bowls at Kelvingrove. A lot of support for

:55:24. > :55:25.the Scottish team. They are playing against South Africa. Let's pick up

:55:26. > :56:00.the action. COMMENTATOR: Lawn bowls one of five

:56:01. > :56:10.Para sports at the Commonwealth Games. Interesting to see what

:56:11. > :56:16.length Eileen decides to play after this. Scotland are allowed to move

:56:17. > :56:41.the Mac as well which they have done. -- the mat.

:56:42. > :56:48.It is one of the sports that has a lot of time for thinking, and

:56:49. > :56:54.anything you can do to mess with the head of your opponent, fairly of

:56:55. > :57:01.course, is a good thing. And bringing the mat up, the jack

:57:02. > :57:38.slightly shorter, not the length South Africa wanted.

:57:39. > :58:03.Irene Stein on her backhand -- have too much affect at this stage.

:58:04. > :58:06.Irene Stein on her backhand -- staying on her backhand. Just

:58:07. > :58:40.needing a little more weight. Certainly adding weight. I think

:58:41. > :59:11.that helped. Probably opened up a little bit

:59:12. > :59:15.better track for Irene. She is close, just going through, good

:59:16. > :59:45.correction. The peers and these Commonwealth

:59:46. > :59:59.Games are played with three bowls -- for each player. I have enjoyed

:00:00. > :00:05.having three. Yes I quite like the three as well, less walking, more

:00:06. > :00:07.soot is played, shorter period of time, the ends are over quicker, it

:00:08. > :00:33.does add to the excitement. through the short bowls. -- she

:00:34. > :00:41.needs to navigate to way. -- her way.

:00:42. > :00:53.Some very tight heads from these two players. They have both gone

:00:54. > :01:08.wondering a little. A chance to get back on the mat after this. Terrific

:01:09. > :01:45.form in the semifinal. Beating New Zealand.

:01:46. > :01:54.Robert, on that occasion, relatively quick to get his bowl away. That is

:01:55. > :02:16.what he needs to do. Just running through a little, very good lie.

:02:17. > :02:27.Looks like a reasonably tight line. A little bit too much of a firm

:02:28. > :02:36.edge. Not allowing that bowl to roll any further.

:02:37. > :02:49.Young and old enjoying the bowls. They have been to the gift shop.

:02:50. > :03:02.Needs to get round it. He is helping out the bowl of Gwen Nel there.

:03:03. > :03:14.Looks like three. Very difficult head to navigate their way through

:03:15. > :03:32.now. Scotland will not want to drop a further account. -- count.

:03:33. > :03:36.It is looking like a pretty handy bowl. He does not want it to move

:03:37. > :04:12.too far. That is four. An important moment in the match,

:04:13. > :04:24.Scotland, four down here. Got it away well. It may well have come in

:04:25. > :04:33.to cut down. That is a very good weight of bowl. Cut it down to a

:04:34. > :04:51.single. Brilliant result. Roberts just resting on the shot

:04:52. > :05:04.bowl. Eliminating the damage a little. Worth a couple. Just over

:05:05. > :05:10.the halfway point in this Commonwealth Games 2014, mixed pairs

:05:11. > :05:48.final. South Africa have the lead at the moment. Gwen Nel. One of 180

:05:49. > :05:56.athletes to be selected from South Africa. Partially blind now for over

:05:57. > :06:00.50 years. But she has not let that stop her playing bowls. She is

:06:01. > :06:22.coming onto a good game here. Just over halfway through this

:06:23. > :06:38.match. Plenty of time for either team.

:06:39. > :06:55.Nice start for Irene. Any good bowl is being warmly applauded that there

:06:56. > :07:08.is that extra volume for Scotland. To be expected! Absolutely. Gwen Nel

:07:09. > :07:11.has represented South Africa on a number of occasions on the

:07:12. > :07:17.international stage and town has won nine gold medals. This is a chance

:07:18. > :07:26.to add to her collection with a Commonwealth gold. That is a good

:07:27. > :07:47.correction, finishing just in behind.

:07:48. > :07:57.Looking good again. Irene. It is another good bowl. Only about a foot

:07:58. > :08:41.short of the position. Looking now to just come inside and

:08:42. > :08:55.stopping. Yes. Very good bowl for Gwen also.

:08:56. > :09:10.Irene has had good lying with her first two back. -- her first to --

:09:11. > :09:21.two. It looks like she is giving it a chance. Not far-away. Is she going

:09:22. > :09:28.to set it? Terrific shot. Really well played. Good end of bowls, the

:09:29. > :09:29.last end was a little loose but we are being treated to better fair

:09:30. > :10:23.here. Here is that shot again. A little bit wide on that occasion.

:10:24. > :10:27.Not add weight if he had not had been underneath the blue wing bowl,

:10:28. > :10:38.he could well have trailed that Jack. Too much of a correction

:10:39. > :10:45.needed. From the Scottish perspective, Robert Conway deep in

:10:46. > :11:17.conversation with Ron MacArthur. the best time to play in this

:11:18. > :11:21.situation. -- which is the best hand to play. Deciding on a forehand

:11:22. > :11:38.shot. Does not have enough running. May

:11:39. > :11:48.add a little bit of protection to the shot.

:11:49. > :12:20.the backhand, with just a little bit more weight, not too much, a little

:12:21. > :12:24.touch on the blue bowl, or is the red bowl definitely sitting short?

:12:25. > :12:33.Potentially promoting the grey bowl? An edge on the Jack would get

:12:34. > :12:41.a good result for him. Certainly a shot under their if he elects to

:12:42. > :12:48.play it. -- a shot under there. Playing his forehand though. May

:12:49. > :12:51.come across onto the other shot of Irene's. Gets that handy little

:12:52. > :13:47.edge. That is close as well. just under and sit through the South

:13:48. > :13:59.African bowl? He is close. APPLAUSE A touch tight but he may have got a

:14:00. > :14:06.result. Here it is again, has it rolled in and off? I think so. We

:14:07. > :14:11.looked at the rings and we thought Scotland were lying on the marker.

:14:12. > :14:16.It indicated one for South Africa and we still thought it was

:14:17. > :14:23.wonderful Scotland, it is all about perspective. This removes any doubt.

:14:24. > :14:30.It is close all round and was before that last shot was played. You often

:14:31. > :14:35.see players wandering around the head looking at things from

:14:36. > :14:43.different angles. Because it does affect your shot selection.

:14:44. > :14:46.Especially in an important match such as a gold medal match, you want

:14:47. > :14:54.to make sure you are making the right choices. The next bowl belongs

:14:55. > :15:04.to South Africa. Potential target to hit, if they do not feel confident

:15:05. > :15:05.off the draw. If you catch that grey bowl squarely, the Jack will come

:15:06. > :15:30.all the way back. It surprised me that he did not give

:15:31. > :15:36.it more than that. I thought that was worth reaching. Just like a

:15:37. > :15:46.golfer who has played a bad shot, you do your swing again. You saw him

:15:47. > :15:52.almost pushing a little bit harder. Now then, Scotland have a shot,

:15:53. > :15:58.here. A plant onto the black bowl, with weight, to take that out, and

:15:59. > :16:02.the red bell, as well. They have too seriously think about that, whether

:16:03. > :16:10.it is worth the risk. I tell you what, if it were to stay, Scotland

:16:11. > :16:12.get five, and if it moves away, it is four. They are taking the one. As

:16:13. > :16:16.you say, is four. They are taking the one.

:16:17. > :16:19.even the gap between the two bowls and edging the jack over could have

:16:20. > :16:25.given them a number but there was also danger in the shop. One is

:16:26. > :16:29.good, for Scotland. One is good and that is where the communication,

:16:30. > :16:38.again, if it is weighed up to be too risky, not worth the risk. Maybe

:16:39. > :16:43.worth a little drawer shop, there. Perhaps it is the Scot in me. --

:16:44. > :16:48.drawer shop. I don't like giving things away. The opportunity for

:16:49. > :17:11.additional shots were there. -- drawer

:17:12. > :17:14.throwing the jack just past the minimum length of 23 metres, should

:17:15. > :17:37.garland. wait is good. --just confirming,

:17:38. > :18:24.relating the information. Just a little bit tight across the

:18:25. > :18:52.head but again, good weight. Just finishing a bit in behind.

:18:53. > :18:56.A little bit tight, but coming in nicely. Just dropping a little

:18:57. > :19:35.short. Looking to clear the

:19:36. > :19:46.It might get a little bit too far. Looking to clear the

:19:47. > :20:01.Irene, hoping to draw another close. behind.

:20:02. > :20:13.Irene, hoping to draw another close. the shot. She just has to get in

:20:14. > :20:19.another bowl. I am not sure she has sent it enough. Such a lovely line

:20:20. > :20:53.on that occasion, as well. That looks like a good line, on this

:20:54. > :21:01.bowl. A good correction. Let's see if it can stop in time. APPLAUSE

:21:02. > :21:10.It even needed a bit more weight. It might be good enough. One blue,

:21:11. > :21:13.according to the marker. And one blue signals the shot, for South

:21:14. > :21:34.Africa. Conway, of the Victoria Park club,

:21:35. > :21:42.last December, his World Championship, Scotland's first World

:21:43. > :21:49.Championship in the Blind Bowls championship since 1981 and George

:21:50. > :21:56.Arnold. Also at those championships, as he just goes a little bit

:21:57. > :21:57.through, obviously, the bronze medal for Irene Edgar and himself in the

:21:58. > :22:18.mixed pairs. DOUGIE VIPOND: We will come back to

:22:19. > :22:22.that later in the programme but I am at the key, on the south side of

:22:23. > :22:26.River Clyde, and as you can see, is absolutely packed with people,

:22:27. > :22:29.everyone waving and happy and heading to see the rugby sevens

:22:30. > :22:34.which is at Ibrox. I will stop walking because we have hit a

:22:35. > :22:40.traffic jam. Let's go back to the velodrome and catch up with the live

:22:41. > :22:44.cycling. No live cycling, actually, we had

:22:45. > :22:48.hoped that the decider in the women's spread quarterfinals and the

:22:49. > :22:51.men's tandem semifinals but they finished in two races. Dame Sarah

:22:52. > :22:55.Storey and Sir Chris Hoy alongside me. Let's catch up with what

:22:56. > :22:59.happened. The men's tandem semifinals featured Neil Fachie and

:23:00. > :23:07.Craig MacLean who won a silver medal yesterday. They are already 1-0 up

:23:08. > :23:10.against the Welsh pair, Chris. Craig and Neal perhaps tactically not

:23:11. > :23:13.getting this quite right. You can see, they went up the inside and

:23:14. > :23:16.immediately the Welsh pair shut them down and they had to back out. You

:23:17. > :23:23.can't overtake on the inside. They were never in real danger but they

:23:24. > :23:29.made it harder than they would have wanted to. Leaving it a little bit

:23:30. > :23:34.later. Making a late surge. The name of the game at this page is to get

:23:35. > :23:37.through with the minimum amount of effort. They are safely through but

:23:38. > :23:42.they would have liked to have made it a bit more clinical. In

:23:43. > :23:46.comparison, Kieran Modra and Jason Niblett, who were silver behind them

:23:47. > :23:51.yesterday in the kilo, qualified much more confidently. Yes, it is

:23:52. > :23:55.difficult to know if it was a bit of home nation tactics going on. You

:23:56. > :24:00.are riding against your compatriots so you will have a slightly easy

:24:01. > :24:02.around as a result. But Kieran Modra always had the power to beat his

:24:03. > :24:09.fellow countrymen. It was never in any doubt. In terms of the final

:24:10. > :24:11.this evening. Double gold for Scotland would be great but the

:24:12. > :24:17.Australian soap like they have the bit between their teeth. Kieran

:24:18. > :24:20.Modra qualified to nearly two tenths quicker than the Scottish pairing so

:24:21. > :24:22.it will be an interesting ride. Craig and Neil seemed to have a

:24:23. > :24:26.slightly more difficult path through to the final van Kieran Modra, they

:24:27. > :24:32.be looking to take it out quickly. It will be interesting. Hopefully

:24:33. > :24:35.double gold for Scotland. Women's sprint quarterfinals, the third

:24:36. > :24:39.featured Jess Varnish and Victoria Williamson, being rich pair. Jess

:24:40. > :24:44.Varnish took the first race quite comfortably. The second one was a

:24:45. > :24:48.little bit tighter. Yes, Vicky rode very well. She was aware of the

:24:49. > :24:53.danger. Jess try to make a move up the inside, like the Scottish tandem

:24:54. > :24:56.tried in their last race will stop it is a very tough one, racing

:24:57. > :25:00.against your team-mate. You know their moves. You know their

:25:01. > :25:06.preferred style of racing and they know yours. It was not an easy race

:25:07. > :25:11.for Jess, at all. A bit of cat and mouse going on. Jockeying for

:25:12. > :25:15.position. Jess is at the back, looking for an opportunity but does

:25:16. > :25:18.not want to go too soon. She is looking for the opportunity. She

:25:19. > :25:24.tries to go up the inside a little bit.

:25:25. > :25:33.She creates a gap and tries it. She dipped down but did not go for it.

:25:34. > :25:39.She could have been able to pass. But she had to come the long way

:25:40. > :25:44.round. It is not easy to do because she is coming off a dead wheel.

:25:45. > :25:48.Still relatively comfortable in the end but it makes a fantastic match

:25:49. > :25:52.up in a semifinal against Anna Meares. Anna Meares, one of the

:25:53. > :25:56.legends of track sprinting, against terror in the semifinals, and

:25:57. > :26:01.Stephanie Morton against Mustapha of Malaysia. Potentially an all

:26:02. > :26:05.Australian final, you would guess? Possibly. I would not necessarily

:26:06. > :26:08.think it was a formality. I think Stephanie Morton is the favourite

:26:09. > :26:11.and it shows the benefit of qualifying quickly, she is up

:26:12. > :26:16.against a considerably slower opponent although she is a bit like

:26:17. > :26:20.her compatriot, she is very crafty and she writes to her strengths. You

:26:21. > :26:23.would never underestimate her. I think the semifinal we are excited

:26:24. > :26:27.about is Jess Varnish against Anna Meares. They have raced before and

:26:28. > :26:30.they are similarly matched in terms of pace. You would say Anna Meares

:26:31. > :26:36.is the favourite but I would not write off Jess at all. Jess, after

:26:37. > :26:39.her trials and relations at London 2012, getting disqualified in the

:26:40. > :26:44.team sprint with Victoria Pendleton and then getting injured, she is

:26:45. > :26:49.still on the comeback trail, really. She certainly is. London 2012, it

:26:50. > :26:55.was a one rider per nation rule because she only had the opportunity

:26:56. > :26:59.in the team sprint. -- so it meant. She's getting opportunity to test us

:27:00. > :27:02.off at championships like she has not before. It is great extent for

:27:03. > :27:05.their regardless of what happens in the next round against Anna Meares.

:27:06. > :27:09.A couple of things to talk about tonight, in turns of the four gold

:27:10. > :27:15.medals on offer, we have meant in turns of the four gold medals on

:27:16. > :27:20.offer, we have mentioned Neil Fachie and Craig MacLean. He is a big name

:27:21. > :27:23.on the road, and for the Isle of Man, it is a big deal to come to the

:27:24. > :27:28.Commonwealth Games and be vying for a medal. Some other big names in the

:27:29. > :27:31.race two. Martin Rogan from Northern Ireland, a world champ in chip on

:27:32. > :27:37.the track and Jack Bobridge, who won the pursuit yesterday. -- a World

:27:38. > :27:41.Championship on the track. The women's scratch race as well. We

:27:42. > :27:45.have got the team pursuit girls back in action. It is a loaded field in

:27:46. > :27:50.the scratch race final, three riders from Wales, Scotland and England. We

:27:51. > :27:54.have got some incredible Australians and New Zealanders in there. It is

:27:55. > :27:57.going to be a cracking race. Katie Archibald just missed out on a medal

:27:58. > :28:02.in the individual pursuit. How do you see her racing this one? It will

:28:03. > :28:05.be interesting to see what happens in the Scottish team. They have

:28:06. > :28:09.three very strong riders, Aileen Reid who won the tour series and

:28:10. > :28:13.Charline Joiner who is her team-mate with myself and Katie. She was

:28:14. > :28:17.second behind Eileen in the Tours Ariz. They have a lot of speed and

:28:18. > :28:21.Katie has endurance as well. They have a few cards up against the

:28:22. > :28:25.English trio of Jo Rowsell, Dani King and Laura Trott. But they have

:28:26. > :28:28.a strong Welsh trio with Elinor Barker and Amy Roberts and Katie

:28:29. > :28:31.Kirk is coming back into international racing after a few

:28:32. > :28:35.years out. It is going to be an increment the exciting final. It is

:28:36. > :28:41.only temporal matters as well. I expect the girls to go from the

:28:42. > :28:44.start. -- ten kilometres as well. Ultimately these printers will want

:28:45. > :28:50.it to ending a bunch sprint. When you see row, do you have a dedicated

:28:51. > :28:53.team leader like you would in the Tour de France? Will there be a team

:28:54. > :28:59.leader that the other riders are riding for in this race? There is

:29:00. > :29:02.the potential for that but they will have plans depending on what other

:29:03. > :29:06.nations decide to do. If somebody decides to go for a long one and

:29:07. > :29:10.take a lap, they will have a rider looking to chase it down. Then they

:29:11. > :29:13.will be looking to work for someone if it looks likely to be a bunch

:29:14. > :29:16.sprint. It is more difficult to do it on the track because it is

:29:17. > :29:21.tighter. It will be very exciting. And one more final to talk about,

:29:22. > :29:26.your event, still the reigning Olympic champion because it has been

:29:27. > :29:36.taken off the Olympic... Was it 2008? 2004, ten years ago. Still the

:29:37. > :29:39.Olympic champion, then. A couple of English riders going in it, Ed

:29:40. > :29:44.Clancy and Steven Burke, who have not been in the best of form. And

:29:45. > :29:49.Gina Maddy is in there as well for England. Ed Clancy is known as an

:29:50. > :29:53.indirect athlete but he has an amazing ability in the kilo time

:29:54. > :29:57.trial. Keirin will be up there and the Aussies, Scott Sunderland who

:29:58. > :29:59.has come away from being a spender, joined the

:30:00. > :30:02.has come away from being a spender, Australia and is now

:30:03. > :30:04.has come away from being a spender, the New Zealander, who has got a

:30:05. > :30:06.medal at the World Championships the New Zealander, who has got a

:30:07. > :30:12.in the Olympics in the keirin. the New Zealander, who has got a

:30:13. > :30:14.Pelt Haven is the favourite and the English are potentially with a medal

:30:15. > :30:19.chance. -- Simon Van Velthooven. It English are potentially with a medal

:30:20. > :30:23.promises to be another wonderful idle afternoon in the velodrome. The

:30:24. > :30:27.decibel level will be turned up for Neil Fachie and Craig MacLean

:30:28. > :30:40.particularly. Back to you. Yes, lots to look forward to at the

:30:41. > :30:48.velodrome later this evening. I mention the Commonwealth

:30:49. > :31:00.velodrome later this evening. I long. 250 boats,

:31:01. > :31:10.people at the back that have not been able to keep up. That

:31:11. > :31:16.people at the back that have not picture we can see, just over the

:31:17. > :31:19.top. The amount of people here is absolutely extraordinary. They have

:31:20. > :31:32.just stopped people coming in at the Bell's bridge behind me. Two miles

:31:33. > :31:36.long and 250 boats long. We were at live bowls earlier on. It was the

:31:37. > :31:50.final between South Africa and Scotland. Gwen Nel and

:31:51. > :31:52.final between South Africa and Newcombe against David Thomas and

:31:53. > :32:19.MacArthur of Scotland. They would love to add a

:32:20. > :32:27.Commonwealth gold to their collection. He is reaching up,

:32:28. > :32:33.looking for the Jack or the shot bowl. It is a good effort. That was

:32:34. > :32:48.well played. The shot lives with South Africa at

:32:49. > :32:59.the moment but it was not a bad hit full Scotland. -- a bad hit for

:33:00. > :33:04.Scotland. They should be playing similar shots. They will be looking

:33:05. > :33:35.for a little trail on the Jack. Playing another aggressive shot.

:33:36. > :33:43.Even if he gets the Jack first himself, it is taking the shot away.

:33:44. > :33:54.It is narrow. A little grimace on the face of Robert Conway.

:33:55. > :34:08.You can see the grip on this delivery. He got it away very

:34:09. > :34:13.smoothly. It looked like a better weight as well as a better line. It

:34:14. > :34:19.looked like it. As we have seen with several bowls, it eases up very

:34:20. > :34:27.quickly. The bowls have looked like they have had good weight. Some

:34:28. > :34:30.indication that Green is perhaps not playing quite as kind as it has been

:34:31. > :34:38.the last couple of days. With the cloud cover. It is very warm here.

:34:39. > :34:47.The cloud cover has been constant for the last couple of hours. I am

:34:48. > :34:52.quite enjoying the cloud cover. Don't tell me as an Aussie you

:34:53. > :35:01.cannot take the Scottish son! Jemma I came out of an Aussie winter to

:35:02. > :35:14.be! -- to be here. This will make his shot that much more difficult.

:35:15. > :35:21.They will look for another option. I still think the best shot is where

:35:22. > :35:33.MacArthur's foot is, just outside the black bowl, to push it out. But

:35:34. > :35:40.if you get it wrong, UK Q on out. -- you take your own out. I think he is

:35:41. > :36:16.also looking at the other hand. Just having one more look and

:36:17. > :36:23.getting the shot in his mind. Slightly unusual stance but the foot

:36:24. > :36:30.is on the mat, it is legal and financial comfortable for Robert

:36:31. > :36:36.Conway. Playing his forehand. It is a little wide for the shot he had in

:36:37. > :36:53.hand I think. I think you needed to be under that bolt, onto the blue.

:36:54. > :36:55.It is 1-shot. We were expecting a high-scoring game, we have not been

:36:56. > :37:33.given a high-scoring game. play. This gold-medal contest, two

:37:34. > :37:54.gold medals to be won. Gwen Nel sent it out of the side of

:37:55. > :38:04.their hand and it went off the rink, Scotland will take the link.

:38:05. > :38:08.Scotland deciding to keep the mat where it was positioned, well back.

:38:09. > :39:10.Just through 25 metres, 24.5. far away. Both teams will be feeling

:39:11. > :39:24.the pressure now with only four aims to play. Certainly a gold medal

:39:25. > :39:26.still within reach for either team. Irene has played a lovely bowl, is

:39:27. > :40:04.it enough? It could be. I Gwen Nel. Geoff Newcombe and Gwen

:40:05. > :40:13.Nel have done a lot of work preparing for these Commonwealth

:40:14. > :40:17.Games. Just about match position. It also helps to make sure her feet are

:40:18. > :40:24.lined up correctly on the mat by identifying the angle of the mat.

:40:25. > :40:32.Just going through on that occasion. Good bowling behind. He is never

:40:33. > :40:41.short of a word of encouragement, Geoff Newcombe. This last one just

:40:42. > :40:51.coming across the head a little, finishing in a good position. Irene

:40:52. > :40:54.does not need much change to her first, it is looking good. Just

:40:55. > :41:34.needed a touch more weight. Gwen, looking like a similar line.

:41:35. > :41:37.Might get a little edge of that front one of Irene's. Just pushing

:41:38. > :41:49.it up a little, front one of Irene's. Just pushing

:41:50. > :42:07.Just needs to beat that wing bowl, still are.

:42:08. > :42:11.Just needs to beat that wing bowl, that would be a good result. Out

:42:12. > :42:13.behind is that would be a good result. Out

:42:14. > :42:16.little further than she would have liked to have been. But always handy

:42:17. > :42:41.if the Jack is picked up. This last bowl of Gwen's, just

:42:42. > :43:00.running into Irene's a little. Just wanted it to feather across there.

:43:01. > :43:11.Very good line on that bolt. A little heavy position. -- Bondad --

:43:12. > :44:12.on that bolt. Robert's bowl, also a love Eli in,

:44:13. > :44:48.just going through a little too far. -- also a lovely line.

:44:49. > :44:59.weight off his last. Still on the heavy side. A similar bowl. This is

:45:00. > :45:04.an opportunity for Robert Conway, and there is space as well. The

:45:05. > :45:08.breeze is picking up quite a bit here now. Not sure if it is having a

:45:09. > :45:24.lot of affect down there on the green. A nice little edge. APPLAUSE

:45:25. > :45:28.Still won, to Scotland. Nearly sneaking past the short bowl.

:45:29. > :45:31.Another couple of feet of weight would have been a good result. Just

:45:32. > :45:51.getting the edge but not quite rolling far enough.

:45:52. > :45:56.he take the bit of weight off that is needed to drop in for a shot? He

:45:57. > :46:08.took too much of. -- off. No, you can see the South African

:46:09. > :46:21.pain, there. Robert and Ron, heading down to the

:46:22. > :46:26.head, to have a look and see if there is another option available to

:46:27. > :46:30.them. It just depends how adventurous they wish to be. If you

:46:31. > :46:35.looks likely to the left of the red bowl, could they run and push it

:46:36. > :46:43.through? I'm not sure how many that would then bring in. Do they simply

:46:44. > :46:45.want to draw in, and try to get a second shot? Identity know if you

:46:46. > :46:50.need to be overly adventurous at this stage of the game. You must

:46:51. > :46:53.make sure you pick up a shot. I would not think they would want to

:46:54. > :46:55.take any silly chances. But they certainly need to try to pick up

:46:56. > :47:24.two, if they can. Looking just to draw a shot. It

:47:25. > :47:28.needs to sit around or under that. APPLAUSE

:47:29. > :47:33.That gets through enough and they will have a second shot. A little

:47:34. > :47:38.bit of luck in that one but is weight was very good. Sometimes, it

:47:39. > :47:42.is like being an abstract painter, you just throw it in there, and see

:47:43. > :47:48.what happens. He will take it even though he did not see it like that.

:47:49. > :47:52.A pretty good a dummy fund bolted nudges in for the second shot. It

:47:53. > :48:01.was much more Picasso, wasn't it? Just interpretation. And for the

:48:02. > :48:05.first time in the competition, South Africa concede more than seven shots

:48:06. > :48:13.in a match, Scotland trailing 10-8. Three ends to play. Scotland really

:48:14. > :48:20.needed to pick up something on that end. If it had been another score to

:48:21. > :48:29.South Africa, it would have put it a bit out of reach in the closing

:48:30. > :48:39.stages. The jack is going very long. Will it stay? Precision. They will

:48:40. > :48:44.be happy with that. Irene has her mat well up the green. They will

:48:45. > :49:19.tell you it was never in doubt. So, para-bowls back in the

:49:20. > :49:25.Commonwealth Games are the first time in 2002. Scotland and South

:49:26. > :49:33.Africa, seeking gold. A good push on this one. It is not looking too bad.

:49:34. > :49:36.Pulling up a bit short. I don't think she got that one away as

:49:37. > :49:40.smoothly as she normally does. I think that was the difference. She

:49:41. > :49:46.had a little wobble when she let the bowl go. It normally comes out of

:49:47. > :50:01.hand sweetly and smoothly. It can often affect the weight on the bowl.

:50:02. > :50:10.Some applause in the distance. There are other matches going on on the

:50:11. > :50:13.other greens. But here on green one at Kelvingrove, centrestage, if not

:50:14. > :50:51.centre rink. Irene just needs to slip under her

:50:52. > :51:01.own bowl. And it does. But it is still well short. The players may

:51:02. > :51:06.need to change to the open side. It is hard to navigate their way around

:51:07. > :51:08.the short bells. I think you are looking at a backhand, from here. --

:51:09. > :51:36.short bowls. If you are looking for a couple of

:51:37. > :51:40.guys who know how to beat South Africa, well, Alex Marshall is a

:51:41. > :51:46.good bowler but does not quite have the skill at text messages. They

:51:47. > :51:54.pulled off the great escape against South Africa yesterday. It was

:51:55. > :51:58.amazing, and incredible game. And what you will find is, the crowd

:51:59. > :52:07.here will start to get even busier. Scotland has been in action on the

:52:08. > :52:11.other greens. They are jeering, too. Irene playing weight to the front

:52:12. > :52:16.bowl, probably the best option if it is in front, making a two out of

:52:17. > :52:22.that. Certainly the shops to play. This is it again. Good weight onto

:52:23. > :52:58.the front bowl, and two shots, to Scotland. Thank you very much.

:52:59. > :53:06.When we'll be looking to come underneath the two front bowls. It

:53:07. > :53:08.When we'll be looking to come good effort, just going through. --

:53:09. > :53:34.she will be looking. Scotland, Well, the first gold medal of these

:53:35. > :53:38.games at the lawn bowls will be one -- will be won in the next half-hour

:53:39. > :53:40.or so. Also in the next half an hour or so, we may well

:53:41. > :53:45.or so. Also in the next half an hour reign of the Commonwealth Games at

:53:46. > :54:17.Robert, staying on the forehand. Will it drift in enough? It is

:54:18. > :54:22.close. It may well have drifted in for another shot. Still a single,

:54:23. > :54:55.according to the marker. Underneath from Herman. And all the

:54:56. > :55:03.way into the ditch as well. There was room for error, there. Those two

:55:04. > :55:07.short bowls are making it difficult. You have to work around or under. It

:55:08. > :55:12.will be difficult to come around those two bowls and drift in enough

:55:13. > :55:17.to make a shot. Robert was very close with his first, though. He

:55:18. > :55:19.will be giving it another try. It is coming under, this time, probably a

:55:20. > :55:32.bit too much. I wonder if Scotland would have

:55:33. > :55:35.played to the red bowl, possibly playing it off the backhand but

:55:36. > :55:37.there is also a potential forehand shot as well. I like the other hand.

:55:38. > :55:51.Yes. I'm afraid we're going to have to

:55:52. > :55:56.leave the match but you can see the that match on the website. And that

:55:57. > :56:00.brings me to the end of my stint. I am delighted to work Lee McKenzie

:56:01. > :56:03.who joins the presentation team. You are delighted because it is starting

:56:04. > :56:07.to rain and I'm going to be outside the next five hours. Glasgow Celtic

:56:08. > :56:13.very good impersonation of Barcelona for the first week -- for the last

:56:14. > :56:16.week and now the mask is coming. For anyone who is thinking about

:56:17. > :56:20.cancelling their summer holidays abroad, to Spain or whatever, don't

:56:21. > :56:23.go too early. Watch for the next couple of days and make your mind

:56:24. > :56:27.up. It has been fantastic this morning, lots going on. This little

:56:28. > :56:32.coming in behind us, it is about two miles long. -- this flotilla. It is

:56:33. > :56:36.extraordinary, thousands of people around here and the venues are

:56:37. > :56:40.packed as well. They are saying this is going to be the biggest flotilla

:56:41. > :56:46.to have come down the River Clyde. They are spitting the boats. Look at

:56:47. > :56:51.these stunning pictures. I'm stop using the word boats. Shipping

:56:52. > :56:59.vessels is much better. I said boats and ships and dinghies. That big,

:57:00. > :57:03.square rig has just gone past. That is the little basin behind the

:57:04. > :57:06.science centre, about 200 yards from where we are standing. That is a

:57:07. > :57:10.beautiful picture and lovely to see lots of boats on the river. And

:57:11. > :57:16.lovely to see so many people lining the river bank. It was a warm early

:57:17. > :57:19.on and it is still quite muddy and there are lots of people willing

:57:20. > :57:29.around, just trying to get a glimpse of the shipping vessels. Everything

:57:30. > :57:32.is there. BBC at the key is the festival that is running throughout

:57:33. > :57:36.the Commonwealth Games. Lots of things happening, live music and

:57:37. > :57:41.drama. A big screen is showing what is on BBC One and BBC Three. But I

:57:42. > :57:44.reckon staying in on BBC Three and watching is the best way to get the

:57:45. > :57:48.Commonwealth Games. I know that is what you will be doing this

:57:49. > :57:52.afternoon. The organisers are dubbing this super Saturday and

:57:53. > :57:57.Sunday, 250,000 tickets have been sold for events just in the next two

:57:58. > :57:58.days. It is fantastic and that means there is plenty of sport for you to

:57:59. > :58:11.watch at home. The Welshmen are hoping for better

:58:12. > :58:16.success than the ladies had against Australia yesterday. We have got

:58:17. > :58:21.welterweight, light what weight and middle mate. It is the women's 58

:58:22. > :58:29.kilograms weightlifting, Michaela Smith -- Michaela Breeze taking on

:58:30. > :58:33.Zoe Smith. And this evening, all the -- Scotland, England and Wales

:58:34. > :58:38.involved in the rugby sevens. You can get in touch with us on social

:58:39. > :58:45.media, on Facebook, on BBC sport and you can get in touch on Twitter. We

:58:46. > :58:49.will try to read out as many messages as we can. All your

:58:50. > :58:54.comments go on to the BBC website on the live text service. Now we are

:58:55. > :59:00.going to Glasgow Green, where the National hockey centre is. It is

:59:01. > :59:04.Australia, the men's world number one, taking on Wales, definitely the

:59:05. > :59:08.underdogs, but it is going to be another fascinating battle. That is

:59:09. > :59:16.where we are, being brave in the rain. Travelling along the River

:59:17. > :59:18.Clyde, to Glasgow Green, the oldest park in Glasgow and let's go to

:59:19. > :59:54.Australia against Wales. p.m.. The last time that these sides

:59:55. > :00:02.met, it was at the Commonwealth Games in 1998 in Kuala Lumpur. 4-0

:00:03. > :00:09.on that occasion, Australia. Not many opportunities for Wales to get

:00:10. > :00:13.a game like this under their belt. The other difference between these

:00:14. > :00:15.teams is Australia used to play in front of a crowd and Wales are not.

:00:16. > :00:32.-- Australia are used. Here they come. The footprints of

:00:33. > :00:38.this gifted Australian side on this turf. The National Hockey Centre in

:00:39. > :00:46.Glasgow. This is the second match for Wales. Lost 3-1 against India.

:00:47. > :01:11.And the goal-scorer, what an excellent goal that was for Wales as

:01:12. > :01:17.well. The Australian line-up... Number 18, Tristan White. Number 20,

:01:18. > :01:29.Matthew Swan. Number 23, Daniel Field. Number 25, Trent Mason.

:01:30. > :01:38.Number 27, Ciaran Dallas. Number 28, Kyle Brown. Number 29, Andrew

:01:39. > :01:50.Philpott. Number 30, Douglas Kavanagh. Wales, number 11, captain,

:01:51. > :01:57.Matt Rosberg. Number two, Ben Thomas. Number three, Dan Guineas.

:01:58. > :02:06.Number four, Peter Swenson. Thomas. Number three, Dan Guineas.

:02:07. > :02:17.eight, Louis crosser. Number nine, Andrew Cornick. Number 12, Greg Day.

:02:18. > :02:26.Number 13, Hugh Jones. Number 14, Nick Rees. Number 15, Leon Britton

:02:27. > :02:38.all. Number 16, Rhys Kilburn. Number 18, Darren Furlong. Number 19, Owen

:02:39. > :02:46.Craig. Number 20, Mark Short. Number 22, James Guineas. Number 29, David

:02:47. > :02:59.pebble. Day three action. Hockey, the

:03:00. > :03:07.Commonwealth Games, 2014. The crowd, the viewers, ourselves, we are about

:03:08. > :03:11.to be treated to what this power packed Australian side has in its

:03:12. > :03:30.armoury, for the beginning of a new era in sport. The umpires for the

:03:31. > :03:37.match, Martin Madden, Scotland, Liam Caldicot, Canada.
