:00:25. > :00:45.going to show you this evening, but look at this, two members of Wet Wet
:00:46. > :00:50.Wet. This is the keyboard player's son. He will be a good sportsman.
:00:51. > :01:00.Are we struggling with the microphones? Marti Pellow, you are
:01:01. > :01:07.playing in front of a few hundred fans, we have had 18,000 ticket
:01:08. > :01:13.requests for Wet Wet Wet, slightly limited in terms of numbers. What is
:01:14. > :01:19.it like to play in front of a home crowd? Always special, we drop on
:01:20. > :01:22.the banks of the River Clyde, we are looking forward to singing some of
:01:23. > :01:30.the songs that people remember with great passion. Tommy, the fans don't
:01:31. > :01:36.get to see you very often, only three tours in the last 15 years? We
:01:37. > :01:40.got asked how many tours we have done, I think it is something like
:01:41. > :01:44.that, difficult to come together, people are doing different projects,
:01:45. > :01:50.it is always something unique when we take to the stage. In the 1980s
:01:51. > :01:55.and 1990s, we touched a lot of people with our songs, we feel
:01:56. > :02:02.privileged to be able to do it for the 3000 years! It feels like that!
:02:03. > :02:07.How proud have you been up the way the Commonwealth Games has gone
:02:08. > :02:12.down, the way the city has shined in beautiful weather? Absolutely, I was
:02:13. > :02:17.walking through the city, such a wonderful atmosphere. Especially
:02:18. > :02:24.from the point of view, seeing all the rugby players, the whole place
:02:25. > :02:27.was buzzing, I loved it. The highlight for me was the opening
:02:28. > :02:36.ceremony, watching the opening of big aims, as the events started. The
:02:37. > :02:40.real focus is on the sportsman. We feel privileged to be on the stage,
:02:41. > :02:45.we are just the entertainment, the real focus is on all the nations
:02:46. > :02:55.coming together, the kids working their hardest working for 5-10
:02:56. > :02:59.years, one gig to get it right. Glasgow has never shone like this.
:03:00. > :03:06.It has been absolutely fantastic, I told a member of my family I was
:03:07. > :03:21.interviewing you, she said I had to ask you about Eve -- Evita? Yes I'm
:03:22. > :03:28.starting in November, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's production,
:03:29. > :03:34.wonderful for me. What will you be doing tonight? Doing all the hits,
:03:35. > :03:39.lucky to do a tour at the end of last year, making us get our diaries
:03:40. > :03:47.together to get back on the road. We are touring at the moment, we have
:03:48. > :03:50.rehearsed, ready to rock. This is around 500 people, really intimate
:03:51. > :03:59.gig. We usually play to 30,000 people, this is 400. This is your
:04:00. > :04:03.only Scottish gig this year? We have a few more racecourses throughout
:04:04. > :04:11.the country we have been playing, you can see us on our new DVD!
:04:12. > :04:22.Available now! We filmed it just crossed... Have you been primed to
:04:23. > :04:25.promote it? Disgraceful. We performed it at the brand-new venue,
:04:26. > :04:36.our first time playing their across the river. The Hydro. Hopefully we
:04:37. > :04:44.can capture some of that energy. I do think we heard from Little
:04:45. > :04:57.Hayes, what is your highlight? What have you enjoyed about the
:04:58. > :05:04.Commonwealth Games? The diving! It wants to see Tom Daley. An absolute
:05:05. > :05:12.privilege to talk to you. A bit more smiling? Lets give them a round of
:05:13. > :05:20.applause. Wet Wet Wet, who will be performing later on. Apparently you
:05:21. > :05:22.are only highlights show. Let us tell you what we have coming up on
:05:23. > :05:36.BBC Three for you. As promised, the DVD was filmed in
:05:37. > :05:43.the Hydro, we will be there for the women's team gymnastics. Plenty of
:05:44. > :05:50.home nation interest in the boxing, Stephen Donnelly and Anthony Fowler
:05:51. > :05:59.returned to the ring. We will speak to as many of England's Squash
:06:00. > :06:05.medallist as we can. -- return. We will take a trip to the lawn bowls,
:06:06. > :06:10.to see how Northern Ireland got on in their attempt to win their first
:06:11. > :06:17.gold of the games. Look at that, Gary Lineker, looking lovely! He is
:06:18. > :06:23.on BBC1 at the moment. He has swimming and athletics on BBC1. If
:06:24. > :06:28.you want to interrupter the athletics, hit the red button. If
:06:29. > :06:33.you would like to watch the swimming, you can also go to the red
:06:34. > :06:40.button. -- to interrupter the athletics. Get yourself over to the
:06:41. > :06:50.red button, go to the websites, you can watch one of 15 streams. You can
:06:51. > :06:54.follow absolute and delivering -- absolutely everything. I'm sure in a
:06:55. > :07:00.few minutes time you can re-watch that interview. Absolutely
:07:01. > :07:08.everything when it comes to delivering the Commonwealth Games.
:07:09. > :07:13.Are you on Twitter? You are. In terms of social media, anything you
:07:14. > :07:24.would like to say to us regarding coverage, questions, comments,
:07:25. > :07:32.complaints - we get a few of those! Get in touch. We'll be testing out
:07:33. > :07:37.some of the people who came to see Wet Wet Wet on how many of the 71
:07:38. > :07:44.Commonwealth territories they can name. As promised, we will take you
:07:45. > :07:50.to the gymnastics, let's head to the Hydro, the team event. All of the
:07:51. > :07:58.athletes from every single nation competing in all of the single
:07:59. > :08:05.apparatus. Nations can have teams between 3-5 gymnasts, the best three
:08:06. > :08:14.scores count. Let's show you the very best in the afternoon's action.
:08:15. > :08:22.She has had this recurring ankle injury, interesting to see how she
:08:23. > :08:27.gets on. She has been a great gymnasts Paul Wales over the years.
:08:28. > :08:38.Lovely, smooth into the front somersault, court well. Down to the
:08:39. > :08:46.low bars, this is a big element for her. Half turn. Very difficult.
:08:47. > :08:53.Performing it very well, swinging well into the double pike dismount.
:08:54. > :09:02.That was a great routine. The Welsh gymnast looking very impressive. She
:09:03. > :09:21.scores 13.5 .3 free. -- 13.5.33. She is the Welsh champion, that was
:09:22. > :09:26.a very difficult element. Lovely swing, the hands on the bars.
:09:27. > :09:34.Straight down, very smooth, full pirouette. Up to the high bar. Good
:09:35. > :09:41.clear circle to hands. Securely through, just has the dismount.
:09:42. > :09:47.Winding up strongly. Art into the air, fold twist, little buckle of
:09:48. > :10:01.the knees. The Welsh girls have gone well. They are pushing hard. 13.3.
:10:02. > :10:13.Congratulations from the other girls. Georgina, we will ask your
:10:14. > :10:19.thoughts about her in a moment, she is your gymnast. Very nicely done.
:10:20. > :10:27.She is a very hard-working little gymnast. I caught Georgina -- I
:10:28. > :10:32.coach Georgina, along with Brett Ince, she has prepared very well.
:10:33. > :10:49.Very delighted with that strong bolt. Chris Dean is taking notes to
:10:50. > :10:54.work on. -- Christine. Kyra Roberts from Northern Ireland, she was born
:10:55. > :11:01.in Australia. That was a lovely high, straight position. Certainly
:11:02. > :11:23.one of the best landings we have seen. It was not so difficult but
:11:24. > :11:37.she held her shape beautifully. OK, let's move to the bars. Kirsten
:11:38. > :11:42.Beckett. 18 years old. Nicely done, the hands bound in the transfer. --
:11:43. > :11:49.handstand. That was nicely done. handstand. That was nicely done.
:11:50. > :11:58.This is going well, clean in the handstand elements. Very good in the
:11:59. > :12:18.half term. -- half turn. That was good to finish. South Africa are
:12:19. > :12:26.going well, 12.966. The next gymnast to go for South Africa, you will
:12:27. > :12:33.remember her from the World Championships, she is now 19 years
:12:34. > :12:39.old. That was a well flighted flip on, and the straight body shape was
:12:40. > :12:54.held well. She got enough height to add in a twist or two. Just one
:12:55. > :13:02.today. Her individual bid as well as the team title. The next up on the
:13:03. > :13:11.uneven bars is Sarah Beck of Northern Ireland. She is 17. Salto
:13:12. > :13:22.gym club. She started back in the day, aged four. Half turn. She is
:13:23. > :13:28.swinging well. She catches in a handstand. Clean again into the
:13:29. > :13:38.handstand and a good transfer. Keeping the swing. Full turn. She
:13:39. > :13:52.lost a bit of pace there. Just the straight semi. To complete the
:13:53. > :14:01.routine. Congratulations. She had a wonderful time out there. So, the
:14:02. > :14:16.team standings after two rotations, halfway round the competition.
:14:17. > :14:19.STUDIO: We had a proper sprint while you were watching the gymnastics, we
:14:20. > :14:24.are searching for Beth Tweddle and we are going down towards the BBC1
:14:25. > :14:29.studio. She is in here somewhere. We will find her shortly. While we get
:14:30. > :14:32.ready to talk about the afternoon gymnastics and talk about what else
:14:33. > :14:37.we will see on BBC Three over the coming hours, let show you an
:14:38. > :14:40.interview earlier. We saw Paddy Barnes in the ring, just before
:14:41. > :14:49.seven o'clock, he is now into the quarterfinals and after his match he
:14:50. > :14:54.spoke to us. How was that? It was great. I can only improve from here.
:14:55. > :15:01.Everyone else has been fighting and you had to wait to get in, have you
:15:02. > :15:05.been raring to go? That was my first fight and others have had two
:15:06. > :15:11.fights. I think my performance tonight showed how good I was. When
:15:12. > :15:15.you are so much in control of a fight, are you able to conserve
:15:16. > :15:20.energy, because there is always a risk of one punch and that's it, so
:15:21. > :15:31.you have to keep going? I always have a high work rate. I had to make
:15:32. > :15:39.the weight. How are you finding that? It is tough, but I have been
:15:40. > :15:46.the same weight since I was extreme. Some people say they make it easily
:15:47. > :15:51.but they are telling lies. Some people are just getting by on water,
:15:52. > :15:59.but how much food can you consume? It is nothing for me. Well done
:16:00. > :16:02.tonight. Paddy Barnes with John in a dale earlier. We have tracked down
:16:03. > :16:07.Beth Tweddle. She was just inside the green room. She is here to talk
:16:08. > :16:13.about some of the gymnastics we have already watched. A treble world
:16:14. > :16:17.champion. Great Britain 's best ever gymnast, that is a nice headline?
:16:18. > :16:22.You are now retired, so what is it like to work at a major tournament
:16:23. > :16:30.but not on the parallel bars and things? It is very different, I did
:16:31. > :16:33.not know how I would feel but I have been watching the gymnastics and
:16:34. > :16:38.when I watch I knowhow much hard work they put in so I am glad I made
:16:39. > :16:41.the decision to retire. Reddish gymnasts recently have been superb
:16:42. > :16:48.so I have left it in a healthy state. -- British. Plenty more still
:16:49. > :16:53.to come, what have you made of the quality so far in the team event?
:16:54. > :16:57.The quality has been superb. With the British team on the men's side,
:16:58. > :17:01.they have been split into, half with Scotland and half with England said
:17:02. > :17:05.there is a lot of rivalry. England are leading by six and a half marks
:17:06. > :17:10.but the final that everyone will talk about is the pommel horse,
:17:11. > :17:15.Lewis, Max and Daniel Keatings in the final so that will be hotly
:17:16. > :17:17.contested. You touched on a few moments ago how gymnastics has
:17:18. > :17:23.changed and there is always the expectation of quality and medals at
:17:24. > :17:27.the end. It is a huge difference to when you first came in? It is
:17:28. > :17:32.massively different, we used to try for personal bests, we did not
:17:33. > :17:36.expect to get medals. Now we not only expect finals, we expect to win
:17:37. > :17:42.medals. Whether it is on Commonwealth or world level. We have
:17:43. > :17:45.been talking a lot about getting inspired and I have a seven-year-old
:17:46. > :17:50.daughter who is obsessed with gymnastics and she will watch it for
:17:51. > :17:55.three and a half hours. It is great for to be televised because I'd
:17:56. > :17:58.generation are watching these talented athletes from around the
:17:59. > :18:06.world and hopefully they will go out and get involved themselves? -- a
:18:07. > :18:12.whole generation. When I was younger you did not have British role models
:18:13. > :18:16.come at you had to look to the Eastern bloc, but now you can see
:18:17. > :18:21.British athletes on TV and say, you know what, I want to have a go, take
:18:22. > :18:26.a friend along, find your local club. The main thing is for the kids
:18:27. > :18:30.to enjoy it. In terms of what we can expect over the next few days, pick
:18:31. > :18:37.a few things to look out for. This evening we have the English,
:18:38. > :18:40.Australian and Canadian women starting the qualification.
:18:41. > :18:43.Qualification is different now because it is over two days and the
:18:44. > :18:47.team final will conclude tomorrow and we will find out who is top of
:18:48. > :18:54.the rankings. There are so many names it is hard to pick out. I have
:18:55. > :18:58.to put you on the spot. Max Whitlock will take our medals, Daniel
:18:59. > :19:05.Keatings, Lewis, Downing, Williams, there is so many, I cannot just pick
:19:06. > :19:08.out one name. In terms of people watching and thinking, OK, where do
:19:09. > :19:13.I go to get involved? What advice would you give to parents or
:19:14. > :19:18.children who are old enough to sort themselves out, how can they get
:19:19. > :19:22.involved? The British gymnastics website has a link called find a
:19:23. > :19:26.club coming you can find a region in the country and it will name all of
:19:27. > :19:30.the clubs in that area and whether they do trampolining, artistic,
:19:31. > :19:34.rhythmic, there is lots of different aspects. If you do not like what you
:19:35. > :19:44.see tonight, maybe you enjoyed Frankie Jones in the rhythmic, all
:19:45. > :19:53.fancy trampolining. -- are you fancy. Are you now allowed to eat
:19:54. > :19:57.whatever you want? Lots of people have asked what the best thing is
:19:58. > :20:03.about not competing and it is great that you can go to bed without
:20:04. > :20:07.butterflies and eat what you want. Since you have been in Glasgow, have
:20:08. > :20:18.you had a Glaswegian curry? I have not but I have had a Chinese. Beth
:20:19. > :20:22.Tweddle, right, I asked for some recommendations for a Glaswegian Rex
:20:23. > :20:27.Grant, and she gave me five curry recommendations. -- restaurant. I
:20:28. > :20:31.asked her for one that was not a curry restaurant and she looked at
:20:32. > :20:37.me as if to say, what are you talking about? Glasgow is the curry
:20:38. > :20:44.capital. We are a nation of curry lovers. It is basically the national
:20:45. > :20:51.dish. It is the best. You cannot beat it. Glasgow is a curry loving
:20:52. > :20:56.City. It has won the title of British curry capital and impressive
:20:57. > :21:01.four times. We come for a curry every couple of weeks. At least
:21:02. > :21:07.twice a week. That is even more than me! There is no question that
:21:08. > :21:11.Glasgow is a City infused with spice and flavour of curry, thanks to the
:21:12. > :21:19.diverse community rooted in the Commonwealth. Indian immigrants
:21:20. > :21:23.settled in Scotland as early as the 1920s but it was a partition of
:21:24. > :21:30.India in 1947 which sparked the immigration explosion. Confronted
:21:31. > :21:32.with political upheaval and rising unemployment many Indians and
:21:33. > :21:39.Pakistanis looked the security elsewhere in the Commonwealth. By
:21:40. > :21:49.1970, there were 16,000 Asians living in Scotland. And the majority
:21:50. > :21:55.were living in Glasgow. What was it like when you came over in the
:21:56. > :22:03.1960s? In 1962, it was completely different for me. Here there were
:22:04. > :22:10.tall buildings, dark buildings, dark streets. It was very cold. In the
:22:11. > :22:13.winter there was a lot of snow. The winter there was a lot of snow. Me
:22:14. > :22:17.and my father opened a small restaurant with five tables. My
:22:18. > :22:28.mother and father worked in the kitchen. It was more like home
:22:29. > :22:32.cooking. Most of the clientele came from the University, Indian and
:22:33. > :22:36.Pakistani students. We attracted Scottish people also cover Scottish
:22:37. > :22:41.tunes. They came and acquired the taste. -- Scottish students.
:22:42. > :22:46.tunes. They came and acquired the day was better than the last. Over
:22:47. > :22:58.the decades Glasgow 's Asian community has changed the City. It
:22:59. > :23:02.used to be that there was lots of light curries but now they have more
:23:03. > :23:11.spices, they are aware of differences in the cooking. Today
:23:12. > :23:14.the authentic flavours of India and Pakistan are second nature to
:23:15. > :23:21.Glaswegians. There is more flavour in a Glasgow curry. Glasgow and
:23:22. > :23:28.curry go together. It is hotter and sharper. It is a taste of Glasgow,
:23:29. > :23:34.the taste of home. Curry culture is at the heart of the City, it has
:23:35. > :23:41.fused cuisines from across the Commonwealth and now Scotland serves
:23:42. > :23:47.it back to the world. There you go. I hope Beth Tweddle and the rest of
:23:48. > :23:52.you have watched that and know that there are all manner of curry houses
:23:53. > :23:57.that will look after you. They have been spectacular, I cannot mention
:23:58. > :24:00.them, lots of curry houses are available. Just to let you know
:24:01. > :24:02.where you can watch the Sport Tonight, have a look at the red
:24:03. > :24:08.button comes you can watch uninterrupted swinging. We have
:24:09. > :24:12.mentioned athletics a few times, the 100 metres finals is tonight and you
:24:13. > :24:20.can see that uninterrupted on the red button. Have a look on BBC1. The
:24:21. > :24:24.BBC studio is above us, I am not sure if you can see it at the
:24:25. > :24:28.moment. There are a number of guests. We have the gymnastics here
:24:29. > :24:32.on BBC Three, we have just heard from Beth Tweddle. We have coverage
:24:33. > :24:36.of the women's team event and you can watch that on the BBC sport
:24:37. > :24:45.website uninterrupted. If you would like to join in via social media,
:24:46. > :24:54.you can. I had a post-interview chat with Marti Pellow and he says if it
:24:55. > :25:00.is not teacakes, he does not want to hear about it. Tell us what you are
:25:01. > :25:06.nibbling on! We will do that at 9:15pm. Let's have a chat with these
:25:07. > :25:09.lovely ladies. Are you Scottish? We are from Northamptonshire. I have
:25:10. > :25:18.come to see my sister and the Commonwealth Games. What sport have
:25:19. > :25:24.you seen? We have seen the badminton. Did you see England
:25:25. > :25:30.against Malaysian? We saw India and Singapore. What has been your
:25:31. > :25:38.favourite part of the games? The atmosphere, really good, really
:25:39. > :25:44.friendly. Has it been what you expected? We come to Glasgow quite a
:25:45. > :25:48.lot, but the city has been completely different, really lovely.
:25:49. > :25:54.A buzz around the place? The Hammers. Are you seeing anything
:25:55. > :26:07.else? Tomorrow we're going to the swimming, Wednesday wrestling. --
:26:08. > :26:12.there has. Wrestling something you have seen before, or just came out
:26:13. > :26:23.of the pot? Not something we have seen before. What sports do you tend
:26:24. > :26:28.to play. I am a gymnast, I have been doing it for a long time, I do pole
:26:29. > :26:34.vault as well. Horse riding in high jump. We need some equestrian in the
:26:35. > :26:40.Commonwealth Games in the future, you are there. Have a great time in
:26:41. > :26:54.a safe trip home. We have plenty of boxing tonight. We will take you to
:26:55. > :27:01.the SECC, just over there. We have Joe Ham on the way, the Scottish
:27:02. > :27:05.champion, I think he may well have his blue Mohican. Let's join our
:27:06. > :28:19.commentary team. gentlemen, we moved to the
:28:20. > :28:36.bantamweight division in the final 16. -- ladies and gentlemen.
:28:37. > :28:56.Introducing, in the red corner, representing Pakistan Matt -- Nadir
:28:57. > :29:09.Nadir. Representing Scotland, Joe Ham. The referee, in charge, from
:29:10. > :29:35.Argentina. A terrific reception, as you would
:29:36. > :29:46.expect in the SECC for the Scottish representative, Joe Ham, competing
:29:47. > :29:59.in a second Commonwealth Games. Nadir Nadir, two years older than
:30:00. > :30:06.Joe The Miz competed in Delhi. -- he competed in Delhi. He has gathered
:30:07. > :30:19.experience all the time, training in Glasgow. Trained by his dad, Joe
:30:20. > :30:30.senior. Joe Ham in blue, his opponents, Nadir Nadir in red. He
:30:31. > :30:35.does have good head movement, his opponent has fast hands. He has to
:30:36. > :30:51.move his head, slipping to the left, he has to get closer to his
:30:52. > :31:01.opponent. The upright stance. Wonderful response, my words, that
:31:02. > :31:09.was quick. And again. Good defence. That will have worried Nadir Nadir.
:31:10. > :31:21.He has to keep his right-hand nice and high. You watch Joe Ham, he will
:31:22. > :31:27.finish with the left hook. Has to get close. Better by Joe Ham,
:31:28. > :31:47.everything is cheered to the rafters in Glasgow. Getting his right in
:31:48. > :31:59.very nicely. Head and body by Nadir. The jab will also be very important.
:32:00. > :32:05.He can move into range. Nice work by Joe Ham, there is that left hook.
:32:06. > :32:15.May just think about going downstairs. His opponent's right is
:32:16. > :32:21.held quite high. Just got caught with a shot, that is where the head
:32:22. > :32:27.movement is important. Creating a hard to hit target. A good round for
:32:28. > :32:32.Joe Ham. I think he has won that one. Not sure about the head style,
:32:33. > :32:47.but pretty sure about the boxing. There is the left hook, tremendous
:32:48. > :32:56.shock. Has to keep his head moving, needs to use the jab a bit more.
:32:57. > :33:01.This is not an easy contest. Nadir closing the gap down, getting
:33:02. > :33:16.caught. There was the shot from Nadir, not bad. Everyone has given
:33:17. > :33:31.it to the Scotsman by a single point.
:33:32. > :33:39.The man in blue, Joe Ham, losing in the World Championships in
:33:40. > :33:50.Kazakhstan to the outstanding Ukrainian who won the bronze medal.
:33:51. > :33:58.He has outworked his opponent in the first round, Nadir will know he
:33:59. > :34:03.He has outworked his opponent in the banned. That is good defence, lovely
:34:04. > :34:09.switch from head to body. I think that her Nadir, he went backwards.
:34:10. > :34:14.Starting to me pretty well though, he has fast hands. -- starting to
:34:15. > :34:25.move pretty well. The Argentinian referee has a little
:34:26. > :34:41.word with Joe Ham about the use of the head. Nadir battling back quite
:34:42. > :34:48.nicely. Throwing some good shots in. On a couple of occasions, a couple
:34:49. > :34:53.of chances to throw the left hook, when Nadir is throwing his right
:34:54. > :35:10.hand. A1, two, left hook combination. -- a one, two. He has
:35:11. > :35:20.his man where he once in, Joe Ham. Cutting him off. Wonderful
:35:21. > :35:26.variation. Got in with a good right hand. The crowd really appreciating
:35:27. > :35:41.this. Nadir really hurts. He grimaced. It is still there for
:35:42. > :35:43.Ham, if he presses his case. The first round was pretty good from Joe
:35:44. > :35:49.Ham, this is better. A punishing first round was pretty good from Joe
:35:50. > :35:57.left into the ribs. That is a painful thing. That lasts a while.
:35:58. > :36:03.Joe Ham coming forward. Nadir under pressure like never before. Those
:36:04. > :36:15.body shots slow the opponent's feet down, becoming static. Slipping the
:36:16. > :36:23.right hand over the top. Good footwork by Joe Ham, keeping himself
:36:24. > :36:32.out of harms way. Impressive by Ham. We tend to forget that Nadir
:36:33. > :36:40.boxed well in the first minute and a half. The second half Joe Ham was in
:36:41. > :36:50.control. It started off very well, Nadir, good shots through the
:36:51. > :37:05.middle, fast, crisp hands. Now Joe Ham gets to work, a big right hand,
:37:06. > :37:15.that her Nadir. That's macro that hurts -- that hurt Nadir.
:37:16. > :37:33.A good division this. Sean McGoldrick from Wales, the defending
:37:34. > :37:54.champion. Joe Ham has had to wait until date -- day four. To show his
:37:55. > :38:01.potential as a gold medallist. Nadir from Pakistan, a resident in
:38:02. > :38:09.Karachi. Clever little round the corner right hand. Just easing his
:38:10. > :38:18.way past the left of Nadir. He is loving this. The crowd are loving
:38:19. > :38:23.this, too. Boxing very well. Nadir's problem, his hands are fast,
:38:24. > :38:34.but his feet are very slow, too static. Using their jab, moving into
:38:35. > :38:41.range. Good jab. Uses that right-hand very sparingly, but when
:38:42. > :38:48.he does, very positive. He had to cover up there. Nadir coming back at
:38:49. > :38:57.him. Again, good body shot from Joe Ham. Nadir over the top, his feet
:38:58. > :39:07.slowing down. Not so many punches from the man in red. That is a good
:39:08. > :39:17.jab. Nice combination there. No power in the shots from Nadir.
:39:18. > :39:29.The final minute of the final round. When the final bell goes, the hand
:39:30. > :39:37.will be raised from the man in blue, the Scotsman, Joe Ham, in charge all
:39:38. > :39:46.the way through. Taken the odd shot, it has not bothered him, never
:39:47. > :39:50.looking under serious pressure. He is boxing well, showing good
:39:51. > :39:56.variation, he is just practising here. He is experimenting with
:39:57. > :40:05.different shots. The right uppercut is coming into play. Nadir has
:40:06. > :40:09.recovered from a couple of hard body shots in the second and he is
:40:10. > :40:14.certainly doing his best. Around ten seconds remaining. He is working the
:40:15. > :40:22.body again. And then switching to the head. Left hook to the body.
:40:23. > :40:36.Right hand to the head. He has boxed splendidly throughout. Well done,
:40:37. > :40:39.Joe Ham. He boxed well, didn't he? Against a potentially tricky
:40:40. > :40:44.opponent with fast hands but he eventually closes the gap. He landed
:40:45. > :40:49.some terrific left hooks and he worked his body. He put his right
:40:50. > :40:52.hand over the top into play. And in the last round he was very good
:40:53. > :40:58.indeed, switching his attack to the body and finishing with a right
:40:59. > :41:11.hand. A little bit on the inside, a left hook and then a right hand to
:41:12. > :41:16.finish. He does very well indeed. Ladies and gentlemen, before we
:41:17. > :41:19.declare the result, I am sure you will agree that all of the boxers
:41:20. > :41:31.deserve a round of applause. APPLAUSE
:41:32. > :41:40.By way of a unanimous decision and through to the quarterfinal, Joe
:41:41. > :41:50.Ham! CHEERING Well, the roof has almost come off
:41:51. > :41:55.in Glasgow. Joe Ham has been well supported by this great City and
:41:56. > :42:04.today he has been a very impressive fighter.
:42:05. > :42:09.Another impressive performance from Joe Ham, as we mentioned he is the
:42:10. > :42:12.only Glaswegian in the Scottish wild. He came in with his arms
:42:13. > :42:16.raised, the crowd expected victory and that is what he has done,
:42:17. > :42:22.getting through to the quarterfinals. Just a reminder that
:42:23. > :42:27.the boxing continues at the SECC, and the medals will be handed out on
:42:28. > :42:34.Saturday. We'll Joe Ham get one of those? You are the happiest man in
:42:35. > :42:39.Glasgow at the moment? I am happy to do this in Glasgow, and it is nice
:42:40. > :42:43.to cease any people supporting me. It is unbelievable. I have been
:42:44. > :42:48.trading for years to get the chance to box tomorrow. In my hometown. It
:42:49. > :42:54.is seconds anon. You will finally get the chance, after days of
:42:55. > :42:59.sitting around, have you been desperate to get in? It is
:43:00. > :43:04.unbelievable, once we heard the reception, it was unbelievable, so
:43:05. > :43:10.to get my chance... I knew that I would get a good reception and that
:43:11. > :43:12.is the loudest it has been. I hope the crowd continued to follow me. I
:43:13. > :43:20.am ready for anything. the crowd continued to follow me. I
:43:21. > :43:25.crowd you know personally? Easily 80%! This is unbelievable. The
:43:26. > :43:29.support is incredible. Nobody else at the common wealth games will get
:43:30. > :43:37.a reception like that. Onto the next one. Congratulations. That was a
:43:38. > :43:42.good performance. Do you get the feeling he enjoyed that? ! That was
:43:43. > :43:45.Joe Ham of Glasgow talking about how he was lifted by the crowd and he
:43:46. > :43:49.cannot wait for the quarterfinal. Another home nation boxer will now
:43:50. > :43:56.try to join him in the last eight of the men's bantamweight. This man was
:43:57. > :44:05.inspired to get into boxing by the Olympics excess of Amir Khan in
:44:06. > :44:08.2004. -- Olympic success. Can he join Joe Ham in the quarterfinals?
:44:09. > :44:19.Let's go back to the commentators at the SECC. COMMENTATOR: This is the
:44:20. > :44:25.bantamweight division. The judges are from Brazil, Turkey, Sri Lanka,
:44:26. > :44:46.Kazakhstan and Poland. The referee is the vastly experienced Russian
:44:47. > :44:54.Denis Povov. He is 23 years old, this is his second Commonwealth
:44:55. > :45:08.Games. He boxes out of Delhi. A big cheer and plenty of support here in
:45:09. > :45:14.Glasgow for the boy from Leeds. Dennis Popov of Russia brings them
:45:15. > :45:20.together. There is a definite height advantage that the British boxer.
:45:21. > :45:31.This is the top half of the draw. The southpaw from Leeds just comes
:45:32. > :45:36.forward. A gold-medal twice in the prestigious tournaments in Finland.
:45:37. > :45:42.One of those finals, he defeated one of the Scots Joe Ham. He may have
:45:43. > :45:51.his hands full with Thamahane from Lesotho. He had a contest at at 52
:45:52. > :45:57.kilograms in Delhi, and he looks more comfortable in the bantamweight
:45:58. > :46:01.division. Ritchie, you have watched him with the GB squad in recent
:46:02. > :46:07.times? What are your thoughts? I worked with him. Many times. He has
:46:08. > :46:16.lots of skills, he is a natural switch hitter, he is boxing switch
:46:17. > :46:22.southpaw but he is still developing. There is no question about his
:46:23. > :46:27.counterpunching ability, it is very good indeed. He maintains the gap on
:46:28. > :46:33.the retreat. In this situation, he is boxing as an orthodox boxer now.
:46:34. > :46:38.He has lots of skills. Thamahane is a bit of a handful. Especially in
:46:39. > :46:47.close, he does tie up being less man when he steps in. The referee has to
:46:48. > :46:54.be careful. He has to keep this man away from him. A good right hand
:46:55. > :46:57.from the man from Lesotho. What a racket at the Scottish exhibition
:46:58. > :47:05.conference centre, and the banks of the Clyde. He has to concentrate on
:47:06. > :47:10.the mid and long range. He is pushing his opponent back. Some
:47:11. > :47:14.prefer that style of boxing with lots of aggression. Keeping the
:47:15. > :47:22.judges happy, pushing him back now and again. He looks so much bigger.
:47:23. > :47:28.Coming forward in pretty straight lines. A bit on the messy side.
:47:29. > :47:35.Dennis Popoff will have his hands full. If it continues like this.
:47:36. > :47:41.Lovely left hand, that was a well timed punch. You have two watch your
:47:42. > :47:51.head, both of the boxers. -- have to watch. We have always had a lot of
:47:52. > :47:58.contests being stopped because of cuts. That was skilful, there.
:47:59. > :48:02.Landing shots and then turning. It is all about timing here, waiting
:48:03. > :48:07.for him to come, hitting him and then moving again. The referee
:48:08. > :48:19.should do something about that. That was deliberate, I am not saying it
:48:20. > :48:23.was, but it was certainly careful -- it was certainly callous. That was
:48:24. > :48:27.the end of the first round. It was nonstop action. Not altogether tidy
:48:28. > :48:38.but I think being Leishman has done enough to win. -- the Englishman. I
:48:39. > :48:42.felt he landed the better shots. Let's have a look at some of the
:48:43. > :48:50.action. The referee has got to do something about their heads.
:48:51. > :48:55.Thamahane Getting his head in. He just hesitated there. He brings him
:48:56. > :48:58.onto the shot, looping round. That was a lovely move. Let's have a look
:48:59. > :49:15.at it again. His head is almost clashed. One of the judges has given
:49:16. > :49:39.it to Thamahane and the over to Ashraq. Six minutes still to go. --
:49:40. > :49:46.the other. That was a lovely shot. He is moving nicely. The corner will
:49:47. > :49:53.be selling him not to get involved. -- telling him. He is a machine. You
:49:54. > :49:57.just had to move off to the side and then come back again. Bring him onto
:49:58. > :50:04.the right hook like you have been doing. Keep your cool. Keep your
:50:05. > :50:07.focus and concentrate. That is nice boxing, stopping his man with a
:50:08. > :50:14.stiff right hand. This is good boxing now from Ashfaq. I do not
:50:15. > :50:19.think Thamahane will be doing anything else except steaming
:50:20. > :50:23.forward. You have to get your timing right in this situation, bring him
:50:24. > :50:31.onto the shots and move on again. Stay off the ropes at all costs.
:50:32. > :50:36.That was lovely. He'd heed him up with the right and hit him with the
:50:37. > :50:45.left. Ashfaq. He has settled down a bit. Look at how he adjusts his
:50:46. > :50:52.feet, Ashfaq. He is a skilful man. Medium to long range is his
:50:53. > :50:55.strength. Four days since the draw was made. It is difficult to
:50:56. > :51:06.concentrate. Thinking about making the weight every morning. He has
:51:07. > :51:10.waited so long to get the contest under his belt. Again, good
:51:11. > :51:16.movement, hitting and moving, from Ashfaq. He slipped away from his man
:51:17. > :51:33.nicely in the neutral corner. He will be happy to hang on for a
:51:34. > :51:36.second. If the movement slows down from Thamahane that will suit
:51:37. > :51:43.Ashfaq. He has two watch his head on the inside. If you hold your feet he
:51:44. > :51:51.will bring him into it. There is the head. Ashfaq Looks towards his
:51:52. > :51:58.corner. I think he has got this one. He has boxed better in the second
:51:59. > :52:02.round. He has boxed well at distance. He adjusted his feet and
:52:03. > :52:11.brought him onto shots. I think he has done well here. The left hand
:52:12. > :52:18.caught his man as he came in. Thamahane was expecting a different
:52:19. > :52:23.punch entirely. Ten seconds to go. He has kept out of trouble all the
:52:24. > :52:28.way throughout that round. He had a better second round than the first.
:52:29. > :52:37.I'm impressed. He controlled the rhythm of the round much better. His
:52:38. > :52:41.corner will be pleased. He brings him onto the shots. It is important
:52:42. > :52:49.that Ashfaq just keeps off the ropes. Good judgement at distance.
:52:50. > :52:56.He is on the retreat. Boxing as he is going. That is a skill in itself.
:52:57. > :53:06.There is no doubt about that. You realise just how good Ashfaq has
:53:07. > :53:16.been. Thamahane Has been given the second. A predictable response now
:53:17. > :53:27.for the man in red, he will come charging. He was on the slow side to
:53:28. > :53:30.get out of the ring. Back they come. Two rounds, pretty successfully
:53:31. > :53:42.negotiated by the English bantamweight. The 21-year-old from
:53:43. > :53:46.Leeds. Thamahane We'll come steaming forward. He has absolutely nothing
:53:47. > :53:57.to lose. He knows he has to stop Ashfaq from comprehensively
:53:58. > :54:13.outscoring him. Moved off to the side for top the heads were clashing
:54:14. > :54:55.again. Got to keep those hands up. Lovely shot. Slow the guy down. They
:54:56. > :55:12.do work it out. There is the clash of heads again. Is he cuts? No, he
:55:13. > :55:17.not. -- is he cut, no, he is not. So important to boxed clever, box from
:55:18. > :55:27.distance, get your timing right. Do not let him close the gap. Lovely.
:55:28. > :55:29.Lovely, lovely, lovely. That is what his corner was telling him to do, he
:55:30. > :55:38.has done just that. his corner was telling him to do, he
:55:39. > :55:45.He is flailing around now. It is all about counterattacking, then
:55:46. > :55:55.springing the attack. Then getting on your bike again. He shoves his
:55:56. > :56:08.man. Less than half a minute to negotiate. He is only
:56:09. > :56:13.man. Less than half a minute to away from a Commonwealth medal. He
:56:14. > :56:17.has been gaining all the way through. The skill and the accurate
:56:18. > :56:28.punching have come from the man in blue. He has won this. He goes over
:56:29. > :56:38.to his opponent, saying thank you very much. Nice punch of the gloves.
:56:39. > :56:48.A bruiser, having waited Forde -- four days. His opponent kept coming.
:56:49. > :56:53.The tactics were very good. The movement was the key, the
:56:54. > :57:00.counterattack, stepping into counter. In these situations you
:57:01. > :57:17.cannot panic, concentrating, total focus in your own ability.
:57:18. > :57:27.Confirmation of the victory. He will be happy, happy English supporters
:57:28. > :57:44.as well. All three judges going for the English bantamweight.
:57:45. > :57:50.He goes through is to the quarterfinal, he will face Joe Ham.
:57:51. > :58:01.We had a fascinating interview with him. We should get an interview with
:58:02. > :58:06.him shortly. That cannot have been the easiest contest, him running at
:58:07. > :58:10.you from start to finish? We did not know anything about the kids, we
:58:11. > :58:16.were prepared for anything, he was a strong kid. Hard to predict. I have
:58:17. > :58:25.done the job, waiting a week and a half. What have you been doing?
:58:26. > :58:31.Exactly, I don't know myself. Laying in bed, watching the guys box. Got
:58:32. > :58:36.the nerves out of my system. Through to the semifinals. You are fighting
:58:37. > :58:44.Joe Ham, you may be fighting the crowd? I have boxed him three times.
:58:45. > :58:54.I know what he is about, are very good kid. I am more than capable of
:58:55. > :58:57.beating him. Well done tonight. We have plenty more boxing and
:58:58. > :59:01.gymnastics on the way through the course of the evening. If you want
:59:02. > :59:09.to see gymnastics right now, you can go online, watching it
:59:10. > :59:15.uninterrupted. The other sports we are offering, BBC1 has athletics and
:59:16. > :59:21.swimming. You can watch athletics uninterrupted on the red button. The
:59:22. > :59:29.same for the swimming. Hopefully we have all your choices covered. We
:59:30. > :59:34.will go down to the quayside, Wet Wet Wet will be performing shortly.
:59:35. > :59:40.You may hear screams of 500 middle-aged women getting ready for
:59:41. > :59:43.them. We will see them on stage shortly. Right now, time for the
:59:44. > :59:51.news. Yeah, I am looking for
:59:52. > :59:53.a Prince Charming. I don't think I'm ugly, but I don't
:59:54. > :59:57.think I'm, like, really pretty. I say, "You've got something
:59:58. > :00:04.on your bum." "Really?" And I say,
