:00:43. > :00:47.Good morning and welcome to BBC Three's coverage of the Commonwealth

:00:48. > :00:53.Games. As you can probably tell, it is a bit of a grey and damp day here

:00:54. > :00:57.at Pacific tea, but it is certainly not dampening the spirits of the

:00:58. > :01:00.people coming in at the moment. We are past the halfway stage at the

:01:01. > :01:10.Commonwealth Games and yesterday 31 people became gold medallists.

:01:11. > :01:24.Has he got him greater mark I think he has!

:01:25. > :01:31.Davis gets the gold! The gold medal in the team final.

:01:32. > :01:44.The final race of the Commonwealth Games is taken by England!

:01:45. > :01:47.They have the silver medal! Delight for the Englishwoman. Let's

:01:48. > :01:51.take a look at the medal table, Australia still in the lead with 101

:01:52. > :01:59.medals including 34 gold medals. England have a very respectable 93

:02:00. > :02:03.medals. Scotland took silver for the first

:02:04. > :02:09.time ever in the team gymnastics. Canada moved ahead of Scotland due

:02:10. > :02:11.to the memorable gold and silver of Catharine Pendrel and Emily Batty on

:02:12. > :02:21.the gruelling mountain bike race on Cathkin Braes. Jen Mcintosh claimed

:02:22. > :02:25.shooting silver at Barry Buddon. We have plenty of sport for you

:02:26. > :02:31.today, first up we will be at Kelvingrove as England's player

:02:32. > :02:40.takes on Aron Sherriff in the men's singles competition.

:02:41. > :02:47.It is day one of the diving, and Tonia Couch will be hoping to add

:02:48. > :02:51.gold to the European total of 2012. And in boxing, Michael Conlon, Joe

:02:52. > :02:57.Ham and Sean McGoldrick are all just one step away from medals in the

:02:58. > :03:01.bantamweight division. And if that is not enough for you,

:03:02. > :03:05.on BBC One they are showing the clash of England and Scotland in the

:03:06. > :03:10.women's hockey. These may be the friendly Games but the old enemies

:03:11. > :03:15.never hold anything back. And as ever, our website,

:03:16. > :03:20.bbc.co.uk/glasgow2014, is your source of anything Commonwealth

:03:21. > :03:24.Games. Click on there for news, updates and live streams so you

:03:25. > :03:28.never miss a thing. I am delighted to see that Craig

:03:29. > :03:31.Heap joined us now, Commonwealth Games gold medallist, he competed at

:03:32. > :03:35.the Olympics and now has the more difficult task of explaining

:03:36. > :03:38.everything to people like me. What a fabulous day yesterday for men and

:03:39. > :03:42.women for England. It was an absolutely amazing day,

:03:43. > :03:47.just to see the English men lift the title again. It has been 12 year for

:03:48. > :03:51.the men, 20 years for the women, and what a great day for the home

:03:52. > :03:56.nations. Scotland got their first ever team medal, silver, and the

:03:57. > :04:00.Welsh ladies picked up the bronze, which was fantastic to see the

:04:01. > :04:05.gymnast stood in the arena thinking, have we won a medal? That

:04:06. > :04:09.is what is really great about sport, being able to see that was

:04:10. > :04:14.fantastic. It is not a sport we see a lot of in Glasgow, but the

:04:15. > :04:19.atmosphere inside the halls from the artistic to the women's and it

:04:20. > :04:21.seemed to be fantastic, and it seemed to be a knowledgeable and

:04:22. > :04:26.appreciative crowd. Yes, you find that the fans really

:04:27. > :04:30.do follow gymnastics. I reckon 90% of the audience will be

:04:31. > :04:35.involved in gymnastics and the other 10% are fans of watching it, they go

:04:36. > :04:38.to the Commonwealth Games come Olympics. Any chance for live sport

:04:39. > :04:40.in this country and I think we are really up for it.

:04:41. > :04:47.What was your highlight from yesterday?

:04:48. > :04:52.I think the young English Claudia Fragapane eight, she was absolutely

:04:53. > :04:56.amazing to watch. She is leading the all-rounder and

:04:57. > :05:01.she is leading qualification through the practice. I am really excited,

:05:02. > :05:06.not just for the Games for her, but I am looking forward to Rio 2016.

:05:07. > :05:12.And for the men, a great day for Louis Smith but an injury for Sam

:05:13. > :05:17.Oldham. Ultimately what you remember is that fabulous gold.

:05:18. > :05:22.Yes, and it was really nice to see Louis Smith come back to form as

:05:23. > :05:27.part of the team, not just on the polls but on the parallel bars. He

:05:28. > :05:32.was needed, after some's injury, you start to think, we only have three

:05:33. > :05:35.guys in the team. All of the scores have two count. Fortunately for team

:05:36. > :05:40.England, they were so far in front it was not an issue. As you can

:05:41. > :05:47.see, this normal routine, I would say technically this is one of the

:05:48. > :05:53.best routines I have seen him doing. -- pommel routine. He will have to

:05:54. > :05:57.up the difficulty if he wants to become the pommel horse champion

:05:58. > :06:03.tomorrow. This was a sad and difficult

:06:04. > :06:07.moment, so much training goes into any tournament but you don't want to

:06:08. > :06:10.have an injury here, do you? That is the difficulty you have,

:06:11. > :06:15.when you are performing on a piece of apparatus like the fault, he is

:06:16. > :06:19.so powerful and dynamic, that is a handspring double front have to

:06:20. > :06:26.turn. As he landed he said something felt as though it popped back out

:06:27. > :06:31.and then back in. Two and a half somersaults, the half term, landed

:06:32. > :06:35.slightly to one side and snapped back in. You can see his coach at

:06:36. > :06:38.the side cheering because it was such an amazing fault. Then Scott

:06:39. > :06:42.Hanson said, hang on committee is injured. Credit to him committee did

:06:43. > :06:49.not just fall on the floor, he grabbed his ankle, presented to the

:06:50. > :06:53.judge and then collapsed on the floor. Fair credit to sample it was

:06:54. > :06:58.nice that he had gone away, come back and was of the medal ceremony,

:06:59. > :07:04.not stuck in the hospital. A really great moment. Christian and Louis

:07:05. > :07:07.Smith really doing their bit so he could be part of that ceremony. How

:07:08. > :07:11.nice. When you see the medal ceremony here

:07:12. > :07:14.at the Commonwealth Games does it bring back the emotions for

:07:15. > :07:18.nutrition might yes, I had a few messages from people saying it is

:07:19. > :07:24.bringing back memories from 2002, do you wish you were there?

:07:25. > :07:27.I was talking to Scotland's first-ever gold than those done the

:07:28. > :07:38.rings and he was saying, this is amazing but I am glad I am not spend

:07:39. > :07:42.there! -- down their Lexmark break! This is a great moment for those

:07:43. > :07:44.guys to be bigger and better things, as they are doing.

:07:45. > :07:47.I popped down to the athletes village last week when the teams

:07:48. > :07:53.were being welcomed and I saw Steve on the microphone selling raffle

:07:54. > :07:58.tickets and doing the whole thing, hanging up people's jackets.

:07:59. > :08:02.That is the great thing about these Games committee is fabulous for

:08:03. > :08:07.those who are there, great for the memories for you guys, and Steve

:08:08. > :08:10.must have been so proud of Scotland's efforts yesterday because

:08:11. > :08:16.that was a historic moment. Yes, and Adam Cox, to come back from

:08:17. > :08:19.retirement, he is at teacher, I'd ever cooing with ad for so many

:08:20. > :08:25.years and I don't let you have seen the photograph, he is saying, come

:08:26. > :08:29.on! That must be on the front page of all the newspapers. That is what

:08:30. > :08:34.it meant to him. It has not been an easy couple of years. I think that

:08:35. > :08:37.was really nice. I think with the apparatus finals we have not seen

:08:38. > :08:42.the end of the medals for the Scottish guys and may be Scottish

:08:43. > :08:46.women, as well. It is a really exciting couple of days now we have

:08:47. > :08:54.the all-around final today of both men and women as we can see here.

:08:55. > :09:00.That was Purvis yesterday. -- Dan Purvis. Yes, Dan is a

:09:01. > :09:04.seasoned performer now. He has done so well now the team is settled.

:09:05. > :09:09.The young Frank Baines coming into the team, he is actually top on the

:09:10. > :09:13.parallel bars qualification. I think Steve was maybe a little bit

:09:14. > :09:17.agitated, will he be the only person ever to win a gold medal? I think he

:09:18. > :09:21.would like that title but I said, you better watch out because Frank

:09:22. > :09:25.Baines was superb on the parallel bars and is leading qualification. I

:09:26. > :09:29.would like there to be a real mix in the individual finals, and that this

:09:30. > :09:33.weather likes of Scotland and Wales and England will have a real

:09:34. > :09:38.battle, which will be nice to watch. It will be. Thoughts about Adam Cox?

:09:39. > :09:41.He pulled out just before Delhi but he is back here.

:09:42. > :09:46.Yes, he went back to teaching. he is back here.

:09:47. > :09:49.was fortunate the local council said he could have a couple of months of

:09:50. > :09:53.teaching to get in. It would be nice, his speciality is the Iva Barr

:09:54. > :09:58.but because Scotland are strong in the side bar is not made the final.

:09:59. > :09:59.But he is on the vault final. Anything can happen in

:10:00. > :10:06.But he is on the vault final. your feet, that would be a real

:10:07. > :10:15.fairy tale ending for Adam. He was saying, I am not sure if this is the

:10:16. > :10:18.end, but I think that is the euphoria. Yes, we will fight on! But

:10:19. > :10:21.when you go back to training six hours a day, sometimes he might go,

:10:22. > :10:24.yes, I think I will call it a day now. Whatever he does, I wish him

:10:25. > :10:28.the best of luck, he is a great guy and he is so good for Scottish

:10:29. > :10:31.gymnastics. Do you think the fact that Louis

:10:32. > :10:33.Smith went off and did Strictly Come Dancing and all these other things

:10:34. > :10:38.and became known outside of gymnastics has increased the

:10:39. > :10:42.popularity, maybe just of him, but maybe gymnastics, as well, that he

:10:43. > :10:45.has come back to it. He has not just come back to have a play, he has

:10:46. > :10:51.executed it so well. Yes, Louis Smith has been a bit of a

:10:52. > :10:56.poster boy for gymnastics. I think he would probably be the most famous

:10:57. > :11:02.home nations athlete we have here. Mo Farah pulled out, obviously. He

:11:03. > :11:05.is really, really popular. He has generated interest. It is cool for

:11:06. > :11:11.guys to do gymnastics. I was speaking to someone yesterday within

:11:12. > :11:15.BBC Sport, and I remember when I was in school doing gymnastics I was a

:11:16. > :11:21.bit of an oddball, why would I want to do a girl's sport?

:11:22. > :11:25.but with freestyle dramatics and Louis Smith winning medals, it is

:11:26. > :11:29.pretty cool now. I spend a lot of time going around schools and the

:11:30. > :11:35.first thing they say is, do you known Louis Smith? I say, I taught

:11:36. > :11:41.him all he knows Lexmark... ! Has had a battle to prove to get

:11:42. > :11:44.into the team. We had a battle at the Europeans, he was slightly

:11:45. > :11:49.miffed not to make the team, but that is not because of his talent on

:11:50. > :11:54.the pommel horse. What we saw yesterday was come if what happened

:11:55. > :11:57.was to happen in the World Championships and someone like Sam

:11:58. > :12:03.Oldham or one of the other guys gets injured, you would have to rely on

:12:04. > :12:07.him to step up. However, he did the parallel bars, but he does not do

:12:08. > :12:13.the high bar or the floor or the vault. When you expend people, they

:12:14. > :12:17.go, yes, I understand why he would not be in the team now. He is

:12:18. > :12:21.brilliant on the pommel horse comedy has won a medal, but we'll so have

:12:22. > :12:27.two other guys that are brilliant on it. Max has top qualification and is

:12:28. > :12:32.the current European champions. Daniel Keatings is fantastic on the

:12:33. > :12:37.pommel horse. In the past we were desperate to win a medal and Louis

:12:38. > :12:41.Smith would go regardless. It is his downfall, my year struggling to make

:12:42. > :12:45.the team, because he has inspired all of these kids. In a way, he

:12:46. > :12:49.should be proud of what he has inspired, he has inspired a

:12:50. > :12:54.generation which are unfortunately now better than in Lexmark -- better

:12:55. > :12:58.than him! It has been great to see the

:12:59. > :13:01.dynamics of the Clinton team which has obviously had to split up for

:13:02. > :13:05.these Games and it is a friendly Games but still so competitive. I

:13:06. > :13:08.know you have a lot of gymnastics to talk about a lot of other people,

:13:09. > :13:11.thank you for your time. We will head across to Edinburgh

:13:12. > :13:14.where we're getting different aquatics. The swimming finished

:13:15. > :13:18.yesterday and now we are heading to a different city a different

:13:19. > :13:24.discipline but the same person, Helen Skelton.

:13:25. > :13:27.Yes, that is right, I am all about the water babies this week.

:13:28. > :13:33.We have moved to Edinburgh. The diving had to take place here, Leon

:13:34. > :13:38.Taylor. It had to happen here, this swimming pool was built for the

:13:39. > :13:40.1970s Commonwealth Games. There is a huge history here.

:13:41. > :13:47.Yes, and recently been refurbished, as well. A stunning backdrop, Oliver

:13:48. > :13:49.Browning is in place and all the -- of this swimming pool is world

:13:50. > :13:52.class. We have a world-class field, don't

:13:53. > :13:57.regret you it is about quality rather than quantity.

:13:58. > :14:00.England are the only formation that have put in a team but they are up

:14:01. > :14:05.there, are they not? Yes, the Canadians, Australians and

:14:06. > :14:09.Malaysians all feature in the top in the world here. Later this morning

:14:10. > :14:12.we have the first medal chance 14 England, Tonia Couch and Sarah

:14:13. > :14:18.Barrow, but they are up against the top five in the world. This is going

:14:19. > :14:22.to be the closest run contest in the diving, in my opinion. Without the

:14:23. > :14:26.Chinese year you have the rest of the pairs and the rest of the world.

:14:27. > :14:33.I love Sarah and Tonya, because I feel like they have been there for

:14:34. > :14:36.so long with the best underworld -- in the world. In Delhi they were

:14:37. > :14:39.forth, they just missed out on a medal at the World Cup but it is so

:14:40. > :14:43.close for them. It must be their time, their

:14:44. > :14:47.training has been going well. They will not have an easy ride and it

:14:48. > :14:53.comes down to be inconsistent. The girls all have five dives to do and

:14:54. > :14:56.they have to be super precise. They have been training and warming

:14:57. > :15:01.up behind us this morning and I kind of think, come on, girls!

:15:02. > :15:09.Do you fancy getting in? You have seen my diving efforts!

:15:10. > :15:11.I only dive with Brendan Cole, that is another story.

:15:12. > :15:15.Everyone will be wondering where Tom Daley is, he is not diving today but

:15:16. > :15:18.he is here. Yes, his preparations have been

:15:19. > :15:23.going well, he entered his farm in Shanghai recently. We have been

:15:24. > :15:27.watching him in training recently, he is going well. He will be doing

:15:28. > :15:30.the synchronised diving event as well as the individual, which is a

:15:31. > :15:34.surprise. A last-minute entry, we will talk more about that nearer the

:15:35. > :15:39.time but you heard it here first. The man on the inside!

:15:40. > :15:42.The individual is on the Saturday. Yes, and then the ten metres

:15:43. > :15:46.individual is on the Friday. This morning is all about a young

:15:47. > :15:49.man called James Heatley diving for Scotland.

:15:50. > :15:54.This is his home swimming pool. What a fantastic day for his family.

:15:55. > :15:56.He is the first diver, as well. His grandfather competed and won medals

:15:57. > :16:02.in the Commonwealth Games before him. He is here, recently turned 90.

:16:03. > :16:04.I am sure he is a very proud grandfather.

:16:05. > :16:08.Is grandson kicks things off today, what a perfect start to this four

:16:09. > :16:13.days of diving. Also Alicia Blagg and Rebecca

:16:14. > :16:18.Gallantree, they should go well? Yes, that is the women's three

:16:19. > :16:21.metres seniors. We have the men's one metres preliminaries this

:16:22. > :16:24.morning, then we have team England action in the women's ten metres

:16:25. > :16:29.platform and finishing off today will be the final of the men's one

:16:30. > :16:32.metres. All strong chanters 14 England,

:16:33. > :16:35.James Heatley we have already mentioned and the girls finishing

:16:36. > :16:40.off the three metres springboard at the end of the day.

:16:41. > :16:45.And I am diver from Leeds, we will claim he is not going for England or

:16:46. > :16:50.Scotland, representing Jamaica, absolutely brilliant, brilliant

:16:51. > :16:54.character. We will be talking to him hopefully. But if you want to more

:16:55. > :17:08.about diving, he was a little guide to all you need to know. -- here is

:17:09. > :17:15.a little guide. Platform. They also contest the one

:17:16. > :17:25.metre springboard. For synchronised, adjacent boards are

:17:26. > :17:30.used. The measure 4.8 metres long and 50 centimetres wide. From the

:17:31. > :17:39.diving to our competitors will dive side-by-side from the same ten metre

:17:40. > :17:52.platform. Six metres by five metres. Divers can dive for Lord, backwater,

:17:53. > :18:01.reverse, inboard, twisting and armour stand. He died last for only

:18:02. > :18:10.a few seconds but takes a lot of skill and nerve. -- a dive.

:18:11. > :18:15.I might be biased because we are here but I feel this is one of those

:18:16. > :18:21.sports that really keeps you on the edge of your seat. You can get

:18:22. > :18:29.really hot, can she? Yes, you can. The clap was the end that the pool

:18:30. > :18:34.even when in training, when a diver is performing, they'll is rapturous

:18:35. > :18:41.applause. It is incredibly dangerous and difficult. It you smack the

:18:42. > :18:49.water you are going to get bruised. Hopefully it will not go wrong

:18:50. > :18:56.today. Chris Mears, he had a serious injury. His heart stopped for times.

:18:57. > :19:04.At the youth Olympic Games in Australia, he had meningitis. It was

:19:05. > :19:09.really drastic. Lots of divers have got little injuries that they are

:19:10. > :19:11.nursing. Team England do not have a lot of injuries. With diving you can

:19:12. > :19:25.get whiplash or aches and streams from hitting the water correctly. It

:19:26. > :19:29.is in the back that the divers will be doing a lot of warming up. He

:19:30. > :19:36.will bounce up and down on a trampoline. The only reason that I

:19:37. > :19:41.mention him, not to make anyone nervous, if you are going to applaud

:19:42. > :19:45.give them extra applause because it is incredible what they are doing.

:19:46. > :19:51.How much time do you spend learning on dry land? If you are training

:19:52. > :20:00.full-time as a diver, six hours of your day will be training. Roughly

:20:01. > :20:11.three hours will be for using matched training. Trampolines for

:20:12. > :20:16.somersaults. Am I right in thinking that a perfect body for diving is

:20:17. > :20:22.big hands, big beat but being quite short. I do not know if big feet add

:20:23. > :20:28.essential but big hands are. You need to get into the water without

:20:29. > :20:31.any splash. When you have got a big surface area then you do not want

:20:32. > :20:37.any splash which is a massive part of what the judges are looking for.

:20:38. > :20:46.A splash on this entry is what I will be commentating on later. -- an

:20:47. > :20:51.entry without splashes. Watch this space for the big name in diving,

:20:52. > :20:57.Tom Daley. Lots of Scottish and English hopefuls going this morning

:20:58. > :21:09.and this evening. He is more about him. That here is more about him.

:21:10. > :21:13.That was good, he cannot do any more than that. The crowd are on their

:21:14. > :21:18.feet. Tom Daley has done everything he can. Tom Daley could not have

:21:19. > :21:32.done any more. It is out of your hands now. 2013 was a very tough

:21:33. > :21:37.year for me. I had injury. 2014 comes with a lot of changes. I have

:21:38. > :21:41.moved to London with a new court. Lots of exercises in the gym -- in

:21:42. > :21:48.the gym and I have changed my exercises. I have just got a

:21:49. > :21:53.personal best in Mexico and got a silver medal. I am gradually take

:21:54. > :22:00.the step to being good, to get into that excellence category.

:22:01. > :22:07.You mentioned that personal best, what has been the difference? To

:22:08. > :22:15.break a personal best is something you always strive for. If I do not

:22:16. > :22:26..1 of my toes, if I go slightly over from vertical, the smallest mistake

:22:27. > :22:33.can cost you a personal best. -- if I do not line up my toes.

:22:34. > :22:40.What was special about the Commonwealth Games gold medal? The

:22:41. > :22:45.Commonwealth Games has always been massive on the diving candour --

:22:46. > :22:47.calendar. In India, I came away with two gold medals and I was over the

:22:48. > :23:04.moon. That is not so good. He lost it all

:23:05. > :23:12.on the take-off. Running out of room. Maybe the flashes put him off.

:23:13. > :23:16.Tell us about the Demon died, the twister. Everybody has got a dive

:23:17. > :23:25.that they are skilled and for me it is the back twister. I am quite

:23:26. > :23:29.optimistic at the Commonwealth Games that I will be able to nail that. Am

:23:30. > :23:34.I right in saying that you have seen a therapist or psychologist? There

:23:35. > :23:38.are so many things to talk about whether it is in diving or outside.

:23:39. > :23:43.It is crucial to be at the top of your game and you have to be

:23:44. > :23:47.mentally any possession to think that you can win and also be in a

:23:48. > :23:56.position where you do not have any worries about the sport.

:23:57. > :24:02.To get another Commonwealth gold medal would mean so much. It only

:24:03. > :24:08.happens once every four years. It is not an adventure do one year and you

:24:09. > :24:11.say you can do it again another year to try to win. You do all that

:24:12. > :24:20.training for four years and you get six dives. If you mess up, you are

:24:21. > :24:24.out. By the time that the Commonwealth Games happens and I am

:24:25. > :24:30.on the board, hopefully I will be in shape.

:24:31. > :24:41.Worth saying that if you have the rewind button on your TV. The man

:24:42. > :24:44.who gave Tom Daley de medal in India, his grandson will be the

:24:45. > :24:51.first man going for Scotland in the pool this morning. He is a global

:24:52. > :24:59.star, Tom Daley, but diving is his day job. What is the dynamic in the

:25:00. > :25:03.team? He is just part of the team. The team dynamic here is fantastic.

:25:04. > :25:08.Both England and Scotland are sharing the training pool and

:25:09. > :25:12.staying in the same hotel. They are very supportive. It is not just the

:25:13. > :25:22.Tom Daley show and he will be pleased to see that. I have had the

:25:23. > :25:29.pleasure of meeting him and he does seem very gracious. As you say, this

:25:30. > :25:33.morning, our first medal chance is with Tonia Couch and Sarah Barrow

:25:34. > :25:37.who are behind us, practising. Fingers crossed for them. Here is

:25:38. > :25:49.more about those two. We have been partners since 2010

:25:50. > :25:55.together. We know each other pretty well. I have known the serious and

:25:56. > :25:59.she was seven. If we do not get on then it would not work as well. She

:26:00. > :26:08.brought me into the sport when she broke her arm in gymnastics. It is

:26:09. > :26:13.really exciting. British diving. Exciting to be competing for

:26:14. > :26:19.England. She is fun to be rough. Always laughing and joking. We got

:26:20. > :26:26.two silvers in the world event for synchronise. We both came fifth in

:26:27. > :26:30.the World Cup last week. We have been competing with some of the best

:26:31. > :26:35.in the world saw experience means a lot here. We have been busy so we

:26:36. > :26:39.are looking forward to competing. We both know when we are ready to

:26:40. > :26:46.compete well. We are ready to compete well. A different way. I

:26:47. > :26:50.like to be in my own little bubble. If we talk before the competition we

:26:51. > :26:55.normally see it as a good sign. We turn it into a good thing. When I

:26:56. > :27:02.enjoy a competition then I tend to dive better. It is a tough

:27:03. > :27:08.competition for the women in the ten metres. Every team that beat us in

:27:09. > :27:16.the World Cup are competing here. It is not like we cannot do it. If I am

:27:17. > :27:24.smiling then I can dive well. Let us hope we can beat them this time.

:27:25. > :27:31.Tonia Couch and Sarah Barrow go first this morning. Ten metres women

:27:32. > :27:36.synchronise. Can they do it? They have been very positive and it will

:27:37. > :27:43.be tight. It is all about consistency. They have to put the

:27:44. > :27:46.pressure on the other purpose. England and Scotland are the only

:27:47. > :27:55.home Nations team to have sent a team. Wales, Northern Ireland, the

:27:56. > :28:03.Isle of Man, join us. We will send you off to commentary and we will

:28:04. > :28:12.see you at 11:50 a.m.. Thank you very much. I actually

:28:13. > :28:17.trained to be a lifeguard at the Commonwealth pool in Edinburgh. That

:28:18. > :28:22.was the end of my career. Dan Wallace and Ross Murdoch, thank you

:28:23. > :28:27.for joining us. Do you have any voice left? You have done more

:28:28. > :28:33.interviews than swimming. My voice is struggling. It was struggling on

:28:34. > :28:39.the first stage. I have been struggling since then. It has been a

:28:40. > :28:44.really good couple of days. We have had a busy morning but I am really

:28:45. > :28:48.enjoying it. How has your few days change. You were in action last

:28:49. > :28:55.nights are you not have had time to get out into the real world? It is

:28:56. > :28:59.only been about 12 hours since I was racing and the swimming pool. I am

:29:00. > :29:03.looking forward to relaxing. Hopefully see some of sports and get

:29:04. > :29:08.back in Scotland for the last few days. If somebody had told you one

:29:09. > :29:12.week ago that you would be sitting here leaving the Commonwealth Games

:29:13. > :29:19.with three medals, would you believe it? Not for a single second. I knew

:29:20. > :29:27.I was capable of getting a medal. To get three, one gold, two M. Team

:29:28. > :29:35.Scotland have done great in the swimming pool and in other sports.

:29:36. > :29:42.-- totally amazing. You are not wearing your models, Ross, you are.

:29:43. > :29:47.Have you got a very sore neck? -- reading your medals. I have had a

:29:48. > :29:54.busy schedule so I have not had a lot of chance to wield. I met some

:29:55. > :29:58.royals yesterday. Apart from that, I have not had the chance to wield

:29:59. > :30:05.them look at them. I have had to stay grounded. I will enjoy it over

:30:06. > :30:08.the next week. Have you had time to speak to family and friends, or have

:30:09. > :30:13.you been going to TV studio to meet royals and things like that?

:30:14. > :30:15.you been going to TV studio to meet to sit down and see my parents a

:30:16. > :30:23.little bit after one of the to sit down and see my parents a

:30:24. > :30:28.got to see them last night. Not had much time to relax and enjoy my

:30:29. > :30:32.success over the past week. I definitely will do that this week.

:30:33. > :30:39.We can take a look at some of your work in the swimming pool. We will

:30:40. > :30:43.start off with Ross. Have you watched this back? I got a chance to

:30:44. > :30:51.watch a little bit of it back. Not from this angle. We had some race

:30:52. > :30:55.analysis and I got to watch it from that perspective. I had not seen

:30:56. > :30:59.many images like this. At which point do you realise that you have

:31:00. > :31:10.one? You can see the shock on your face. I was totally unaware that I

:31:11. > :31:19.had done what I had done. I still cannot believe it just now, the time

:31:20. > :31:25.that came up on the board was mine. Dang, I saw that when you wrote on

:31:26. > :31:30.Twitter, you said, I left it late. Does that register at all? Is it

:31:31. > :31:36.like watching somebody different? I watched my race back the next day.

:31:37. > :31:41.It was quite strange to me touch is -- to seemed touched the wall first.

:31:42. > :31:48.At the halfway point, I was so far down. It was pure relief. I was so

:31:49. > :31:50.happy for myself and my team-mates, and my family. It was a great

:31:51. > :31:58.moment. I enjoyed the entire week. You mentioned your family, they have

:31:59. > :32:02.sacrificed a lot for you to encourage you to keep swimming. We

:32:03. > :32:04.sacrificed a lot for you to must mention killed. At which point

:32:05. > :32:11.did you decide that would be a great idea? It was a team decision that we

:32:12. > :32:16.were going to step our game up for the last night as a whole nation.

:32:17. > :32:21.The kilt was definitely a great idea. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The

:32:22. > :32:30.code thoroughly enjoyed it. That was definitely a moment that I will

:32:31. > :32:32.never forget. Your family have sacrificed a lot for you, have they

:32:33. > :32:39.not? Yes, it is starting to pay off, they

:32:40. > :32:42.are as happy as I am with the result. Everything I do in the

:32:43. > :32:49.swimming pool is for them. It gives me such joy to see them so happy

:32:50. > :32:53.watching me swimming my brothers and sisters, I don't know how they sit

:32:54. > :32:58.in the stands and watch for hours and hours. But it really is special

:32:59. > :32:59.and makes it all worth it in the end.

:33:00. > :33:04.and makes it all Well, social media gives the world a

:33:05. > :33:09.great insight into people's lives, we can spy on each other now. Ross,

:33:10. > :33:13.I particularly like yours, there have been some great socks, there

:33:14. > :33:20.was the time you crack three eggs and got six yolks. There is this,

:33:21. > :33:24.how high can you jump? It is like URL grasshopper!

:33:25. > :33:29.There is actually someone sitting behind you. How does that work? How

:33:30. > :33:31.do you do that? It is just one of those things, I

:33:32. > :33:34.do you do that? It is just one of those things, have

:33:35. > :33:38.trained to become an athlete, strong in the legs, you have to be for

:33:39. > :33:43.breaststroke. It is just total part of my prerace routine I like to do.

:33:44. > :33:46.-- a little part. You are not jumping up and down on

:33:47. > :33:49.the sofa when you were little, where you?

:33:50. > :33:55.I think I definitely was one of those kids!

:33:56. > :33:59.What happens to you guys next? You still have competitions coming up,

:34:00. > :34:03.do you get any time off? I will get a little time off, I will

:34:04. > :34:06.try and see some other sports, I would love to see the

:34:07. > :34:09.weightlifting, that is amazing to watch and the crowd are getting

:34:10. > :34:13.really involved in that. That is something I would like to see, but

:34:14. > :34:18.just to get to watch the atmosphere in the village. The first few days

:34:19. > :34:22.before the competition and got to chill in the village and I really

:34:23. > :34:28.enjoyed it, playing pool and at different Games consoles with people

:34:29. > :34:35.from other nations. Daniel, what about you?

:34:36. > :34:39.I am looking forwards to just chilling out, I'm not going to think

:34:40. > :34:44.about swimming at all and hopefully get to see some of the events here

:34:45. > :34:47.and get behind Scotland to finish the game is strong.

:34:48. > :34:50.Is there anything you would like to see come any athletes you would like

:34:51. > :34:54.to watch? There is nothing in particular, the

:34:55. > :35:00.whole Games experience has been great and I hope I can continue to

:35:01. > :35:02.kind of get involved with that and just really appreciate the

:35:03. > :35:07.opportunities we have. OK, thank you so much for your time,

:35:08. > :35:12.I know UR on the world tour at the moment, the Pacific theatre, it

:35:13. > :35:17.seems to be. Nature you try and enjoy these days because you never

:35:18. > :35:21.know when they are going to come again. -- the Pacific key tour.

:35:22. > :35:30.We're going to head across to the lawn bowls, it is a stunning

:35:31. > :35:32.setting, the dear green place. We have Aron Sherriff in the men's

:35:33. > :35:50.singles. COMMENTATOR: Well, it is 10-8 to

:35:51. > :35:59.Aron Sherriff. Sam Tolchard went for the heavy shot

:36:00. > :36:38.and ruffled at all the way across. -- rattled it.

:36:39. > :37:27.Both players now playing of the same side of the rink.

:37:28. > :37:44.That last bowl is just causing some some problems on the line. He is

:37:45. > :38:11.going to swap sides onto his backhand.

:38:12. > :38:15.That looked better, it just falls touch out of range. Still one to

:38:16. > :38:57.England. Sam Tolchard having a look for

:38:58. > :39:30.himself. He has dropped his final bowl short

:39:31. > :39:38.on two or three occasions. He has to make sure he is there.

:39:39. > :39:47.He just wanted a touch to keep it to his own. It goes through. Certainly

:39:48. > :40:02.one. Yes, single shot.

:40:03. > :40:10.He has won a few ends, but he has more shots. That has been the

:40:11. > :40:12.difference between Sam Tolchard and Aron Sherriff. Open with the two,

:40:13. > :40:38.since then seven singles picked up. Neither side can dominate at the

:40:39. > :40:42.moment. Aron just has the edge, but there is nothing in the game. Very

:40:43. > :40:48.tight. Sam Tolchard's stated ambition ahead

:40:49. > :40:57.of these Games was to win a gold medal or silver. He has had to

:40:58. > :41:05.settle for bronze in pairs. He has a shot in the singles. He has already

:41:06. > :41:12.beaten the reigning champion. Defeat here would not be fatal, but

:41:13. > :41:13.beaten the reigning champion. Defeat you would

:41:14. > :41:52.beaten the reigning champion. Defeat quarterfinals without question.

:41:53. > :42:04.The marker indicates Sam Tolchard is lying one.

:42:05. > :42:18.And he can now indicate that he is lying two.

:42:19. > :42:36.And just did well, takes it with him. We would prefer his own bowl to

:42:37. > :42:37.fall down. The members of the Aussie squad, the Jackaroos, are watching

:42:38. > :42:51.on. That was disappointing, Sam could

:42:52. > :42:56.afford to reach that. Solid on the bowl, taking it away.

:42:57. > :43:00.It will be interesting to charge to both players, John, because several

:43:01. > :43:04.times with the final bowl they delivered - I know that Aron

:43:05. > :43:07.Sherriff has won two gold - either the shot has been against them or

:43:08. > :43:11.they have had a pretty good chance without danger to add, but they have

:43:12. > :43:13.not reached. Especially in this direction. The

:43:14. > :43:21.problem is, with pushing Especially in this direction. The

:43:22. > :43:27.That is a good length bowl. Yes, two shots.

:43:28. > :43:38.There have been a few chances that have gotten away, but not that time

:43:39. > :43:39.from Aron Sherriff. Still very little to choose between these two

:43:40. > :44:01.players. He looks in fine condition, Aron

:44:02. > :44:11.Sherriff. Certainly ahead of the 2012 World Championships Heath shed

:44:12. > :44:15.22 kilos to get himself fitter. That is more and more the story amongst

:44:16. > :44:20.bowlers, who may or not in the past have carried a little excess weight,

:44:21. > :44:23.but they want to carry themselves in peak condition.

:44:24. > :44:29.Yes, they are thinking about prolonging their career. The longer

:44:30. > :44:38.you want to play, with too much weight it affects the knees.

:44:39. > :44:46.They are quite important in bowls, the knees.

:44:47. > :44:49.It is amazing the amount of bending they do. If you were to add up the

:44:50. > :44:58.medal pressure you are putting on those joints, if you are carrying

:44:59. > :45:26.that little bit of extra body weight it tends to just affect the knees.

:45:27. > :45:34.It is going to be an interesting day for Aron Sherriff, here playing

:45:35. > :45:37.England's gold-medal hope, Sam Tolchard.

:45:38. > :45:40.This afternoon he will take on Tolchard.

:45:41. > :45:42.This afternoon he will Robert Weale of Wales.

:45:43. > :45:51.Sam Tolchard will finish up against Kenya.

:45:52. > :45:56.He is trying with this, needs the blue bowl. He is just the wrong side

:45:57. > :46:05.of it, but he has three good seconds. This is important for Sam.

:46:06. > :46:33.He must get another one in. Just checking how far short Aron

:46:34. > :46:43.Sherriff's bowl is. Nine inches. They could be in trouble.

:46:44. > :47:06.He needs a couple of metres more weight on his last line. He could

:47:07. > :47:23.get some bad luck. He is on a line. He is very close.

:47:24. > :47:32.He has got the jack. It is solid. Looked like he was plumb on it. Just

:47:33. > :47:37.wavered slightly. Did not get it quite solid. He got half of it. He

:47:38. > :47:49.got back into the jack. That is what he did not want.

:47:50. > :48:11.He is looking at it. He is close. Lazy Jack. He is unlucky. The touch

:48:12. > :48:25.has went with the jack. Both players playing the shots. The

:48:26. > :48:48.conditions are not easy. Neither getting the result they were looking

:48:49. > :48:50.for. Both of them were good bowls. He gets half on the jack is well.

:48:51. > :48:59.Some mornings you do wonder. Aron Sherriff just speaking ahead.

:49:00. > :49:56.-- just sneaking ahead. The Namibian missed the chance to

:49:57. > :50:01.beat Bobby Donnelly. He had to take a comfort break and he was agitated

:50:02. > :50:08.after missing such a good chance. He closed it out. There was some crazy

:50:09. > :50:14.results in that section. It has to be the strangest story. Darren

:50:15. > :50:19.Burnett beat the Cook Islands. Just one end over the minimum. Bobby

:50:20. > :50:28.Donnelly who is already a silver medallist then lost to the cook

:50:29. > :50:49.islands 21-1. There no logic to that. Is none. It is a logical.

:50:50. > :50:54.Incredible. When you have been beating 21-0, you do not expect to

:50:55. > :51:00.win a Game 21-1. Not against a silver medal winner. That was good

:51:01. > :51:09.again from Aron Sherriff. Congratulations from his coach. Aron

:51:10. > :51:25.Sherriff is starting to play the better bowls. I would agree. He is

:51:26. > :51:36.unlucky they are, Sam Tolchard. -- unlucky there.

:51:37. > :51:44.It is more than just a Scottish breeze that is rippling across these

:51:45. > :52:00.greens. It is boring. I have not seen one of them for a long time,

:52:01. > :52:02.the old green hood. -- rain hood. That needs to bend. He gave that a

:52:03. > :52:21.really good try. For the first few days,

:52:22. > :52:48.like Australian weather. Big gust of wind into the face of

:52:49. > :52:52.Sam Tolchard it as he got that way. I think that is too much.

:52:53. > :53:31.Single-shot. Just starting to get the better of

:53:32. > :53:37.his English opponent, Aron Sherriff. I think at the moment he is playing

:53:38. > :53:50.the better bowls. Sam has to hold on to him. He needs to keep it tight.

:53:51. > :54:03.You are looking at the big three in the group. Aron Sherriff is

:54:04. > :54:11.unbeaten. If Sam Tolchard was to go down then that would be one match

:54:12. > :54:18.against him. Aron Sherriff, performed this match, was plus 19.

:54:19. > :55:02.-- before this match. Good line then, just needs to run.

:55:03. > :55:17.He has played this really well. That is great. Solid determination on the

:55:18. > :55:21.shot, the way it left his hand. The Australian is close as well. Very

:55:22. > :55:42.close. He gets the drop now. Sam asking to come up and have a

:55:43. > :55:50.look, to see whether it is worth playing with the open hand. I am

:55:51. > :56:04.tempted to come with it at the moment. It is difficult to get past

:56:05. > :56:17.the short bowl on the forehand side. As long as he waits it enough he

:56:18. > :56:28.should be fine. -- weights. He is playing safe.

:56:29. > :56:39.He has picked a good line. My worry would be here now is that if Aron

:56:40. > :56:46.Sherriff does play a shot to nothing, couple of yards on that

:56:47. > :56:55.plant, he could get a result. He could hit his own bowl onto the blue

:56:56. > :57:02.bowl to do more of it. -- to remove it. He can afford to drop the one

:57:03. > :57:21.Mac. He could drop the one Mac. He was playing for that. That was

:57:22. > :57:28.the intention. Good shot put -- good shot to play. He will know that.

:57:29. > :57:38.There are two Mac stages to the shot. Will he get it? He did not. He

:57:39. > :57:45.wanted to come in off the blue bowl and come back in. If you have not

:57:46. > :58:13.played a shot, fine. Second, make sure you do not do yourself any

:58:14. > :59:17.damage. He has to wait for the confirmation which he gets. Double

:59:18. > :59:23.figures now for Sam Tolchard. Sam bowl in the background and cheers in

:59:24. > :59:25.the background because Darren Burnett has picked up another round.

:59:26. > :00:09.He has turned that one around. It's insane that bowl. That is good.

:00:10. > :00:18.Sam Tolchard was looking to banish his daily nightmare.

:00:19. > :00:32.-- his Delhi nightmare. Of course, he beat Robert Weale in

:00:33. > :00:41.the group stages in Delhi and then lost to him in the semifinal.

:00:42. > :00:49.Lost a tie-break in the last end for the bronze against Kelly.

:00:50. > :00:53.Two good bowls here. I just wonder whether Aron might

:00:54. > :00:57.attack this. Big drive. The first big drive we

:00:58. > :01:01.have seen. Gets it clean, you will get fat on

:01:02. > :01:07.the re-spot now, I think. Well, that was accurate, it was on

:01:08. > :01:11.all the way. It was laser-like. The jack bike on the re-spot is

:01:12. > :01:21.Asian, two metres, that is one to Australia. -- the re-pot died

:01:22. > :01:22.Michael re-spot position. -- the Jack is back on the re-spot

:01:23. > :01:30.position. Sam Tolchard, just looking to

:01:31. > :01:46.replace this. He has aligned to get the shot.

:01:47. > :01:47.It just looks like he has the wait to get the shot, as well.

:01:48. > :02:26.Yes, just about. On a full length Jack Sam

:02:27. > :02:30.has won that particular contest. A good end of bowls. What we would

:02:31. > :02:34.expect from these players. That was quite funny that Aron

:02:35. > :02:38.Sherriff was waving his arms around at his last bowl.

:02:39. > :02:44.I don't think it too impressed. He was not happy with himself. I think

:02:45. > :02:51.the wind caught it, as well. 14 - 11, Aron Sherriff needs. Still all

:02:52. > :02:55.to play for. It could be very frustrating in

:02:56. > :03:00.windy conditions. It is a bit like golf, I suppose, Paul.

:03:01. > :03:04.That is right, you play the shot to compensate for the wind blowing and

:03:05. > :03:06.it suddenly drops come you think you have just waited to the perfect time

:03:07. > :03:28.when the wind stops blowing. I played a game at my local club at

:03:29. > :03:33.the start of this season. We play near the seafront

:03:34. > :03:38.the start of this season. We play the start of the game! We were

:03:39. > :03:45.taking a run up to try and get the bowl up the green.

:03:46. > :03:53.We have got no cover whatsoever, and when the wind blows it is difficult.

:03:54. > :04:01.But, such is life. That is the beauty of outdoor bowls. You have to

:04:02. > :04:07.retain your sense of humour. Yes, you have no choice.

:04:08. > :04:11.At one of the Scottish football grounds, I think it is at Arbroath,

:04:12. > :04:16.on certain days the water comes up over the terrace and you can get

:04:17. > :04:23.soaked. You are right on the coast. Apocryphal tales of fish arriving

:04:24. > :04:25.over the walls, as well. That is not too bad, go to the

:04:26. > :04:39.football and get a fish supper! Three good length bowls. I can see a

:04:40. > :05:10.difficulty of them getting back to centre.

:05:11. > :05:19.Now, Sam. Get off that line, it is still hanging isn't it? You can see

:05:20. > :05:25.the old just will not get back, Paul. It is so frustrating for these

:05:26. > :05:39.players. -- you can see the bowl will not get back.

:05:40. > :05:43.Three good bowls in terms of weight. That is a similar line from Aron. He

:05:44. > :05:50.has to just get his bowl, I think. That is another one.

:05:51. > :05:58.It looks like two to Australia. This is not an easy save, really, gaps on

:05:59. > :06:05.each side of the Jack. He has to play it with good weight.

:06:06. > :06:21.The weight has just been hanging out.

:06:22. > :06:27.Well, he looks outside the line to me.

:06:28. > :06:34.Well, you could throw a blanket over the four bowls, they are that close

:06:35. > :06:38.together. He is going to be frustrated here

:06:39. > :06:42.because Aron can just drop this in to take the gamble. -- take the

:06:43. > :07:04.treble. This is a good line. This is a very

:07:05. > :07:07.good line. He does not want too much on the Jack.

:07:08. > :07:14.He was overweight. A good thing he did not get a nip on the Jack then.

:07:15. > :07:30.Two shots to Aron Sherriff. It is the biggest gap between the

:07:31. > :07:36.two players in the match so far, Aron Sherriff leading by 16-11.

:07:37. > :07:42.Well, one thing these two players have in common, John come is the

:07:43. > :07:48.fact they both started at a very early age.

:07:49. > :07:51.Even back in, I think it was 2001, one or two of the newspapers were

:07:52. > :08:01.already starting to write about Sam Tolchard. He would have been around

:08:02. > :08:05.12 or 13 at that particular time. He was identified in 2004 again as one

:08:06. > :08:09.of the players for the future. It does not always work out, but he has

:08:10. > :08:20.shown the dedication and simple talent, as well. A little Aussie

:08:21. > :08:24.wave here. Aron Sherriff, as the saying goes, they used to have to

:08:25. > :08:26.drag him off the Bowling Green at night as a kid as the weather came

:08:27. > :08:37.in and darkness fell. Hours of practice and dedication to

:08:38. > :08:42.their sport from these two athletes.

:08:43. > :08:49.Yes, and of course some has a cricketing -- Sam has a cricketing

:08:50. > :08:53.family background, Jeff and Roger. Roger was a well-known player for

:08:54. > :09:01.Leicester, I think. Salmon could have gone in another direction.

:09:02. > :09:07.Yes, his dad was a cricketer, as well, he was the skipper in the main

:09:08. > :09:16.counties Championship. Cricket is in Aron Sherriff's DNA,

:09:17. > :09:20.as well, as it is for most Aussies. Two great bowls from these players.

:09:21. > :09:28.Conditions are not easy now. Swirling winds.

:09:29. > :09:35.If it had gone the other way, you never know, Aron Sherriff could have

:09:36. > :09:49.been running into bowl at Sam in a Test match!

:09:50. > :09:58.Years going to look at that split. He can afford to reach this. Will

:09:59. > :09:59.you hold the line? He has not really played enough at

:10:00. > :10:09.it. Sam might leave this alone and just

:10:10. > :10:16.come round, get somewhere in that triangle of bowls. There is a little

:10:17. > :10:22.shot on just to jam onto the blue bowls and spring the Jack.

:10:23. > :10:31.Robert Weale is still toiling a little bit on the other rink. He has

:10:32. > :10:33.to win by a few shots, he is 17-14 up at the moment. Still life in that

:10:34. > :11:02.game. Sam is on the wide line, that

:11:03. > :11:03.suggests he is going past the Jack here, which is a sensible bowl. Very

:11:04. > :11:29.good. Now, will you risk a little bit more

:11:30. > :11:33.weight on this, I wonder? I think it is worth it. Just to

:11:34. > :11:36.disturb it slightly. His opponent does not last bowl, but shots

:11:37. > :12:00.against. Well, I cannot see Sam getting

:12:01. > :12:05.another bowl in there, to be honest. I cannot see him drawing

:12:06. > :12:11.another shot. He is giving it a lot of thought,

:12:12. > :12:14.weighing up the pros and cons. If he wants to get a cut on his own blue,

:12:15. > :12:20.it would just be a little heavy and spring it out. I think he will try

:12:21. > :12:51.this, but with the canniest of weight.

:12:52. > :13:16.The last ten shots of Sam Tolchard, all singles.

:13:17. > :13:22.Just cannot seem to find a way to get that two or three which would

:13:23. > :13:27.really aid him. Yes, but at least he is scoring the

:13:28. > :13:30.ends. This section can be so tight. Robert Weale has just moved 19-14

:13:31. > :13:38.ahead now. If he did win that 20-14, he would

:13:39. > :13:42.only be a maximum of plus 11. Whoever wins this game, they have to

:13:43. > :13:50.keep it tight. If you lose, don't lose too many shots.

:13:51. > :13:54.It is tight for Darren Burnett in the other section, as well, 17-16

:13:55. > :14:10.now to Darren. This is a good opener for weight.

:14:11. > :14:17.Just cannot get back to centre, Sam.

:14:18. > :14:25.I was actually wondering if he would open up on the other side just to

:14:26. > :14:28.try something a little different. That is another good opener, Aron

:14:29. > :14:35.Sherriff is just beating him to the opening temp want -- the opening

:14:36. > :14:51.bowls at the moment. Just seems to be tracking. It will

:14:52. > :15:19.come in late now, good weight. You're comes Aron Sherriff, he has

:15:20. > :15:25.found that slightly higher line, as well. Sam Tolchard's bowls have been

:15:26. > :15:35.attracted to that. A very fine line between them

:15:36. > :15:39.hanging out and just turning in. The concentration and determination on

:15:40. > :15:44.the face of Sam Tolchard. He has come inside the line this time. Is

:15:45. > :15:47.he going to push the bowl through or not it over? That just makes it

:15:48. > :15:58.harder. It certainly does. Still in a good

:15:59. > :16:07.position. They three bowls are just behind the black.

:16:08. > :16:26.That was a good shot. That is pretty good. That was a good bowl. That was

:16:27. > :16:34.a bonus. You can see the perfect delivery for Sam on this end. If he

:16:35. > :16:53.can get the jack, using 18 inches of weight, very difficult on the side.

:16:54. > :17:01.It is drifting away. That is how difficult it is to get to the centre

:17:02. > :17:29.line to get to the jack. Second shot.

:17:30. > :17:43.You can sense the frustration for Sam Tolchard. He is not out of it.

:17:44. > :17:45.He has not played badly. That was a good length of bowl. That looks like

:17:46. > :18:11.two. I think it is two. APPLAUSE

:18:12. > :18:17.It does seem that Darren 's bowl is standing up better on that side. He

:18:18. > :18:30.does not go across quite as far. He held at 42nd. -- he held it for a

:18:31. > :18:31.second. Good crowd here at Kelvingrove despite the less than

:18:32. > :19:08.tropical weather. It is being a difficult morning all

:19:09. > :19:16.across the greens. The favourites in certain matches appear to be

:19:17. > :19:46.struggling. That was a better opener from Sam Tolchard.

:19:47. > :20:05.He has got to the jack. Where is it going? He looks to the heavens. The

:20:06. > :20:23.clouds that he sees will match mood. -- will match his mood.

:20:24. > :20:38.That was good again. Very good. His manager like that. There we are. It

:20:39. > :20:59.is a koala bear. The Australian mascot. It is very cute. That was a

:21:00. > :21:06.really good bowl. That is the line that Sam would be coming in on. I

:21:07. > :21:14.wonder if some will switch now. Even the koala bear is happy with that.

:21:15. > :21:25.He looks like he is well fed. Eucalyptus trees. We nor our

:21:26. > :22:08.wildlife. I would not push it much farther than that. I once kept a

:22:09. > :22:14.rabbit. I have not seen too many heavy shots. It has not been that

:22:15. > :22:27.kind of game. One good strike does stand out. He is going to play on

:22:28. > :22:34.his own bowl here. He is very close. He got the inside of it. My goodness

:22:35. > :22:39.me. He was close to that. He certainly was. Has he done any

:22:40. > :22:58.damage? It is difficult to see from the angle we are at.

:22:59. > :23:13.They are having a good look at that. He was very unlucky. He could easily

:23:14. > :23:20.had had a good connection. No indication yet who is holding. I

:23:21. > :23:48.think you have to take your pick out of that.

:23:49. > :23:55.I have just spotted over our shoulder the presence of the

:23:56. > :24:05.Australian manager. He is watching from the television position. It is

:24:06. > :24:12.no surprise that the umpire has been called here. It is close. He is

:24:13. > :24:16.getting the calipers out. You need a steady hand for this. You cannot

:24:17. > :24:23.have a heavy Saturday night if you are doing this job. Steady as can

:24:24. > :24:46.be. The wind is blowing so it is not easy for the umpire. The bowl of Sam

:24:47. > :24:54.Tolchard takes the shot. He is a popular Australian. What a player.

:24:55. > :25:00.He is in connection with his mobile phone and the microphone. He is

:25:01. > :25:13.chatting to the coaching staff. I think he is bringing his bookmaker.

:25:14. > :25:31.I am only joking. -- ringing. He is a really nice guy.

:25:32. > :25:39.The game with Wales is now 19-18. He is making hard work of that. He has

:25:40. > :25:44.to get over the line. That is good news for both of the player is

:25:45. > :26:01.playing here. They are both perfect two out of two.

:26:02. > :26:27.We will keep you up-to-date with what is happening on the other

:26:28. > :26:34.rinks. Scotland have just dropped to four. He was 19-16 up. He now trails

:26:35. > :27:06.the Namibian, 20-19. Some will reach this. Anything on

:27:07. > :27:10.the jack is good. -- Sam. You could see he played that extra bit of

:27:11. > :27:22.weight. He executed that perfectly. That was a good bowl. That is the

:27:23. > :28:05.same line. It got a touch back. It is not good enough.

:28:06. > :28:26.He is on the line again. Good weight on it. That had another good role.

:28:27. > :28:32.-- roll. He is lying well but there's a little chance here. He has

:28:33. > :28:44.to play through this. He clears the bowls if he gets the jack

:28:45. > :28:55.breakthrough. He is going for it. Very good result. It will reduce the

:28:56. > :28:59.count to one. He has not played with weight too often but when he has it

:29:00. > :29:37.has been accurate. It was a good strike. Job done.

:29:38. > :29:44.It is a better result for Robert is Sam Tolchard is going to win this

:29:45. > :29:54.match. I do not know who he is playing tonight. Sam Tolchard is --

:29:55. > :30:00.has got the easier task, he is playing the man from Kenya. To be

:30:01. > :30:13.fair to him, he took Aron Sherriff pretty close, 21-17. The Welshman

:30:14. > :30:26.will be supporting Sam Tolchard here out of interest -- self-interest.

:30:27. > :30:36.Darren Burnett of Scotland on the rink next door has won the bowl to

:30:37. > :30:38.play. Another good bowl from Sam Tolchard. He is starting to come on

:30:39. > :30:48.strong, Sam. Good line by Aron, he needs the bowl

:30:49. > :30:54.on the Jack. That is very well played.

:30:55. > :31:04.Well, Darren Burnett has lost, saw another one of the favourites to go

:31:05. > :31:10.far has been pulled down by Will Esterhuizen of the media. --

:31:11. > :31:15.Namibia. You made a good point on the match we were watching, John,

:31:16. > :31:18.that Sam Tolchard is starting to gone on to the game and in that part

:31:19. > :31:21.of the match when he was trying to hold on in there, he was giving

:31:22. > :31:29.himself a chance. Yes, but that third bowl was not

:31:30. > :31:34.good. You will pay the price. He did not want that touch, really. He has

:31:35. > :31:35.got in a good position, but Aron would have preferred to bring that

:31:36. > :32:11.Jack through. Just trying to reach through this.

:32:12. > :32:31.It is just hanging. You can see it just holding away.

:32:32. > :32:43.It is all happening this morning. The referee has just taken a tumble

:32:44. > :32:46.in all the excitement! E has actually hurt himself as well.

:32:47. > :32:49.He stepped back into the ditch and lost footing.

:32:50. > :32:53.There is Aron Sherriff, just too far, I think.

:32:54. > :33:05.He is OK, years on his feet are having a smile.

:33:06. > :33:24.That looks like a single shot. Yes, one shot.

:33:25. > :33:30.Well, he is close to the finish line, Sam Tolchard, he will fight

:33:31. > :33:57.him all the way. In the background you can see the

:33:58. > :34:05.bowls is Robert Weale. Just having a glance over.

:34:06. > :34:09.Yes, if Aron does close this out it could mean that Robert would not

:34:10. > :34:14.only have to win the game against Aron, he would have to win by a few

:34:15. > :34:18.shots. Winning is not a problem, sometimes if you have to go for a

:34:19. > :34:22.game it is not quite as easy to win by ten or 11.

:34:23. > :34:30.If he was to close it out here at this particular end and move on to a

:34:31. > :34:35.shots differential of 28, Robert Weale is currently plus seven. Yes,

:34:36. > :34:41.difference of 21. So you are looking at 21-9.

:34:42. > :34:45.That is a difference to winning a game. Whatever happens on this match

:34:46. > :34:57.here is a vital to Robert Weale, the defending champion's chances.

:34:58. > :35:02.One, if Sam Tolchard is going to go down, he will want to take it all

:35:03. > :35:11.the way to the wire, not as many shots off. That is not something

:35:12. > :35:15.Aron Sherriff will be thinking at the moment, or Sam Tolchard, they

:35:16. > :35:23.are just battling for the wind. Philip -- win.

:35:24. > :35:26.Sam is probably in the better position, not to be disrespectful to

:35:27. > :35:32.the Kenyan, Sam is probably favourite to win it. It is very

:35:33. > :35:35.interesting, this group. That is a good shot. Still a bit

:35:36. > :35:58.unlucky, still one down. He needs to hold with this to count.

:35:59. > :36:10.Still room there. Aron, a decent line. Has he pushed

:36:11. > :36:24.through with this? Will he run? Doubtful.

:36:25. > :36:30.From our own goal, you would still see two England. You can never tell.

:36:31. > :36:35.It looks a bit different on the It looks a bit different on the

:36:36. > :36:37.rings. It does! That is what they are there for.

:36:38. > :36:40.Certainly from our wrangling the commentary position can it looked

:36:41. > :36:47.better for Sam Tolchard. Yes, Aron Sherriff's bowl has just

:36:48. > :37:16.fallen back. That will make a difference.

:37:17. > :37:34.Yes, it looked like three. Welcome it looked like three from here, but

:37:35. > :37:41.the angles are a little different. That calls for the umpire.

:37:42. > :37:46.Yes, I think it was close before the Aaron Sheriff bowl fell back. I

:37:47. > :37:51.think before that he had his chance. I am not quite certain now. He could

:37:52. > :37:55.still be in with a chance but that was definitely the bowl, the shot

:37:56. > :37:59.bowl. Yes, a mistake from the Englishman

:38:00. > :38:05.there, putting that in. Maybe three?

:38:06. > :38:12.It is three. What a difference that little belly flop made.

:38:13. > :38:20.Game on. Yes, 19-17. They are plain 25

:38:21. > :38:27.endless. Well, it is taken to the 25th end

:38:28. > :38:34.for Sam Tolchard to score more than two in an end. -- it has taken.

:38:35. > :38:46.Rating a run of 12 consecutive singles for him, when he has scored.

:38:47. > :38:52.Still some intriguing Games to come here at Kelvingrove later today.

:38:53. > :39:00.Darren Burnett Scotland will go back into action having lost. Aron

:39:01. > :39:05.Sherriff against Robert Weale of Wales will be tasty. Australia and

:39:06. > :39:11.New Zealand go head to head in the fours. That will be a cracker.

:39:12. > :39:17.That will be one to see. And you can see you there. It is one

:39:18. > :39:24.of the television Games from Kelvingrove, looking forward to it,

:39:25. > :39:25.John. Yes. You can make a cup of tea, get your biscuits out, pick

:39:26. > :39:41.your feet up and enjoy the bowls. Really good opening bowl from the

:39:42. > :39:46.Aussie, Sam Tolchard, he has played under the line.

:39:47. > :39:50.Yes, to loose deliveries, he did not want to do that then coming he got

:39:51. > :39:59.back and then you has played two loose bowls.

:40:00. > :39:59.On his own Jack Lang. -- Jack length.

:40:00. > :41:18.That looked PC. -- pacey. Sam needs good weight on this. He is

:41:19. > :41:27.shuffling the bowl, the Jack is good.

:41:28. > :41:33.Certainly playing about inside line, looking to arrive. That is the

:41:34. > :41:39.problem, just overweight and you miss the line. He has just played

:41:40. > :41:45.that too keen. They would have been drawing at that stage, I think.

:41:46. > :41:47.Yes, the draw shot was certainly available, but it has not been

:41:48. > :42:03.overly comfortable. He knew pretty early that that was

:42:04. > :42:09.not getting anywhere with that. He is lying one. Can he move Sam

:42:10. > :42:10.Tolchard's bowl and stay in its place for the game?

:42:11. > :42:21.Will he attempt it? Yes playing off the other side. That

:42:22. > :42:27.looks inside the line. I don't think he was that keen. Probably right in

:42:28. > :42:34.the conditions, not an easy shot. Take the one and run.

:42:35. > :42:42.You cannot blame him for doing so. Well, there was a little chance to

:42:43. > :42:51.close it out. But these really have been tricky, trying, testing

:42:52. > :43:13.conditions for the players. Aron Sherriff has just one shot.

:43:14. > :43:26.If he closes it out there, the short distance is 25 -- shot distance, and

:43:27. > :43:31.Robert Weale is plus seven. Yes, Sam Tolchard would be left with

:43:32. > :43:36.plus 17 but with an easier game to come, so it is all very, very

:43:37. > :43:40.interesting. But every shot that Sam Tolchard

:43:41. > :43:43.takes here makes Robert Weale's life a little bit easier. It is hard

:43:44. > :43:48.enough to try and beat someone like Aron Sherriff, with all his

:43:49. > :43:54.experience and all his titles, let alone having to set yourself up

:43:55. > :43:56.particular target. -- a particular target.

:43:57. > :44:01.It is pretty clear what ever happens, if Sam does lose this he

:44:02. > :44:03.just has to win the game tonight and he is probably

:44:04. > :44:09.just has to win the game tonight and shots difference.

:44:10. > :44:34.That is a good bowl by Aron. That will take some beating.

:44:35. > :44:45.he comes, Sam Tolchard. Round the corner. What a shot! Under great

:44:46. > :44:57.pressure. Some delivery. Carbon copy required. He has got a good line. It

:44:58. > :45:09.will not come back. It looked OK from the commentary position.

:45:10. > :45:18.Be it appears to be a bit of a game happening with New Zealand as well.

:45:19. > :45:31.It seems like it has been won with a three on the last end, 21-20. To be

:45:32. > :45:37.conformed. That was an escape if that was the case. New Zealand have

:45:38. > :45:51.managed to get over the line despite struggling greatly. There is action

:45:52. > :46:00.all across the greens here at Kelvingrove. Fascinating stuff.

:46:01. > :46:06.all across the greens here at is playing the blocker to try to

:46:07. > :46:15.protect the blue bowl. That was a good choice. He could not play to

:46:16. > :46:24.it. Will he play this underneath to try to flick the blue bowl away? It

:46:25. > :46:25.is a harder shot than the one he had that the previous end.

:46:26. > :46:30.is a harder shot than the one he had that If he gets his own front bowl

:46:31. > :46:44.solid, he could get it into the blue and then onto the jack decisions,

:46:45. > :46:52.decisions. He has made his mind up. Controlled weight. Looking for his

:46:53. > :46:57.own bowl. If he is under it he is close. It could not get under that

:46:58. > :47:07.bowl. Half of the bowl line. He does not want to move his own

:47:08. > :47:28.bowl away. It is a safe line. Don't think he was too bothered. He

:47:29. > :47:38.gave it a little try. He kept it safe. This has been a long game. It

:47:39. > :47:44.is about ten minutes to the Horden. They should finish the game. It

:47:45. > :47:58.could be touch and go. Just over 12 minutes to go.

:47:59. > :48:05.You really think about the time limit when it comes to the singles

:48:06. > :48:17.matches. This match is the longest on the green. All of the others have

:48:18. > :48:21.finished within the time limit. If we fail to have a winner on 21, it

:48:22. > :48:34.would be the first of the competition.

:48:35. > :48:41.This is a new tactic in this match. If you play that, you have to get it

:48:42. > :49:28.right. It is solid. That Scottish gentleman just

:49:29. > :49:31.wandered into the shot. Not a bad bowl. It was a back bowl. You would

:49:32. > :49:52.want something right on top. It has a wee chance that it falls

:49:53. > :50:10.backwards. It is not enough. It is still England's shot.

:50:11. > :50:22.Did not quite reach it. He's had a few opportunities to close this out

:50:23. > :50:27.and he needs to take them. He does have the advantage of last bowl. He

:50:28. > :50:38.will have to pop this on the top. The line looks good, it is all about

:50:39. > :50:49.weight now. I think he has just run through again. There's not a lot in

:50:50. > :50:50.that though. You would certainly measure that at this stage of the

:50:51. > :51:08.game. He can see the funny side. You actually had a shot that was not

:51:09. > :51:21.measured yesterday because it was so close. It is not unusual when the

:51:22. > :51:38.caliper is used but it is slightly unusual when you use the box method.

:51:39. > :51:47.Two other games have finished and that is why the Sun has popped its

:51:48. > :51:53.head out. He is playing overweight and he is looking for the bowl. It

:51:54. > :51:58.is close to play that sort of weight. He has played it to the way

:51:59. > :52:09.decided. He did not want to get the jack with his own bowl.

:52:10. > :52:23.Last bowl. I think it is a measure at the moment but he has got room to

:52:24. > :52:34.draw it. I think it was a brave shot by Sam Tolchard. Will a measure be

:52:35. > :52:41.required? It could be rendered academic with this final bowl. It is

:52:42. > :52:48.a last -- it is a nice line. What a line in this is. It has a chance. I

:52:49. > :52:54.think that is the winning shot. The winning shot for Australia. It was

:52:55. > :53:00.some battle between the Australian and the man from England. He has

:53:01. > :53:07.found his way over the line in the end. Both men had chances to close

:53:08. > :53:15.it out. It is Aron Sherriff who finds a way through. Epic game. 28

:53:16. > :53:23.ends between England and Australia. Vic for Aron Sherriff and he will

:53:24. > :53:49.progress to the stages. Vic today for Aron Sherriff.

:53:50. > :53:58.It was a pretty good contest in tricky conditions. Both players

:53:59. > :54:02.struggled early to find the way. In tricky conditions. Both players got

:54:03. > :54:06.good weight. It was hard to nail the line in the middle of the brink.

:54:07. > :54:16.Good early drawing from post players. The conditions worsened and

:54:17. > :54:21.got blustery. Aron Sherriff knew if he could win this one then they

:54:22. > :54:30.would be favoured to go through. It will still be pretty tight between

:54:31. > :54:37.the top three players in the group. Struggled at times, some cultured,

:54:38. > :54:44.but he kept himself in the game with a gritty performance. Sensible play,

:54:45. > :54:49.he kept it very tight. He knew that a close defeat was not fatal. I

:54:50. > :54:56.always felt this would go to the wire. They did not give advantage to

:54:57. > :55:01.either player. That was a good last bowl. It was good enough. That is

:55:02. > :55:13.one that clinched it. Joy for Australian team. Aron Sherriff just

:55:14. > :55:17.over the line at Kelvingrove. It was a tough one against Sam Tolchard. He

:55:18. > :55:25.has got a difficult one this afternoon as well. He wins this by

:55:26. > :55:31.21 - 18. Entertaining match. Australia topping England.

:55:32. > :55:37.Great victory for Australia. We have got some great guests coming up

:55:38. > :55:38.including Sir Steve Redgrave. got some great guests coming up

:55:39. > :55:42.including Sir He is in use. -- The atmosphere,

:55:43. > :56:01.it's incredible here. Every anthem, every beat,

:56:02. > :56:04.every moment. Get amongst the action

:56:20. > :56:22.of the world's deadliest viruses. Now ministers say the Ebola epidemic

:56:23. > :56:25.in West Africa is a threat here. They're looking at what

:56:26. > :56:28.precautions the UK needs to take. A clamp down

:56:29. > :56:30.on rule-breaking bankers. Guilty ones could have to give

:57:04. > :57:06.right now let's get back to Lee Yeah, I am looking for

:57:07. > :57:19.a Prince Charming. I don't think I'm ugly, but I don't

:57:23. > :58:27.on your bum." "Really?" And I say, to see you. You making of the

:58:28. > :58:31.Commonwealth Games? It has been fantastic. I always thought that the

:58:32. > :58:36.Scottish people and Glasgow would put on a tremendous show. They are

:58:37. > :58:41.certainly doing themselves proud as well as Great Britain doing

:58:42. > :58:50.ourselves proud. You are still a reigning Commonwealth gold champion.

:58:51. > :58:53.Yes, at Strathclyde Park in 1986. There are some pictures of me doing

:58:54. > :59:03.that. I did not think they had cameras in those days. There you

:59:04. > :59:12.are. Very special. Singles title. I had more hair then. Do the memories

:59:13. > :59:18.flood back? It was a very special year for me. I became Olympic

:59:19. > :59:23.champion two years before. 1985 was a bad season as I had a back injury

:59:24. > :59:28.and I nearly gave up the sport. What inspired me to get -- to keep going

:59:29. > :59:36.was the title at the Edinburgh games. As it turned out, I did three

:59:37. > :59:43.events and won them all. I won the World Championships two weeks later

:59:44. > :59:47.in Nottingham. You are the reigning champion because it has not been

:59:48. > :59:52.back. How much would you like to see it back? Good question. It is the

:59:53. > :59:57.only title that I have left out of all of the races that I have had in

:59:58. > :00:03.my career. Part of me says do not bring it back at all. It should be a

:00:04. > :00:11.Commonwealth Games sport. Great Britain is a top rowing nation, New

:00:12. > :00:18.Zealand second, Canada fourth,. Countries like India, Sri Lanka, are

:00:19. > :00:25.up-and-coming countries. It should be a sport that we see not on a

:00:26. > :00:29.regular basis, it is expensive to put a venue on and if you do not

:00:30. > :00:36.have a venue, but were Strathclyde Park here and also the Gold Coast,

:00:37. > :00:45.there are only two venues where they could have the sport. Have you had a

:00:46. > :00:54.chance to come and have a look around? I was in Turkey last week so

:00:55. > :01:01.I have watched a lot of sport. I had a business meeting and then I came

:01:02. > :01:06.up on Monday lunch time. I have seen athletics, hockey, squash, wrestling

:01:07. > :01:14.and swimming last night. Getting quite a lot in. I am here right

:01:15. > :01:20.until the closing ceremony. You have been talking with Matthew, he has

:01:21. > :01:25.been very busy for hours, about everything to do with rowing. It was

:01:26. > :01:32.an incredible reception. The tent was packed. What is the situation

:01:33. > :01:37.with rowing in the UK at the moment? We have had our domestic budget cut

:01:38. > :01:40.slightly because of less people doing the sport, which I find

:01:41. > :01:47.difficult to understand. Every rowing club in the country has a

:01:48. > :01:53.waiting list of people to try the sport. Especially since the success

:01:54. > :01:59.on the BBC, showing the World Championship and we are getting

:02:00. > :02:03.better results in year on year. It is in a very healthy state. The

:02:04. > :02:07.Scottish National Centre at Strathclyde Park are doing very

:02:08. > :02:12.well. The national team is doing extremely well and there is a

:02:13. > :02:15.buoyant domestic circuit as well. You are getting a very mixed

:02:16. > :02:21.audience and that is what the Commonwealth Games does as well. A

:02:22. > :02:26.knowledgeable fan who takes the time to go to all of the sports and they

:02:27. > :02:38.are very enthusiast egg. It doesn't take much to get people hooked. --

:02:39. > :02:44.enthusiastic fan. I want to get the sport involved on a regular basis.

:02:45. > :02:50.It doesn't come around often but it does give you a platform of showing

:02:51. > :02:55.off your wares in a multisport environment. That is pretty

:02:56. > :02:59.important. You have got sports like bowls and netball and squash where

:03:00. > :03:08.this is their biggest high profile sporting event. What are you going

:03:09. > :03:12.to do next? I am at athletics to light. I might be going to the

:03:13. > :03:21.village this afternoon to have a look around. -- tonight. Hopefully,

:03:22. > :03:27.I will be having a look at the facilities and meeting some of the

:03:28. > :03:35.athletes. Is this out of interest or business and consultancy? I am here

:03:36. > :03:40.as ambassador to the English team. Most of that is guiding VIPs

:03:41. > :03:44.around, potential sponsors and sponsors of team England, supporting

:03:45. > :03:51.our athletes and hoping that they are going to squeeze past Australia

:03:52. > :03:56.in the medals table. Thank you very much. I know you are busy. It has

:03:57. > :04:06.been great to see you. One of the sports we have not seen a lot of is

:04:07. > :04:15.table tennis. We are going to see the mixed team event. This is the

:04:16. > :04:25.third game, Trinidad are leading two - zero. Wales are wearing a

:04:26. > :05:11.uncharacteristic dream. -- uncharacteristic green.

:05:12. > :05:36.COMMENTATOR: A really positive run of play for Everton Philips. A must

:05:37. > :06:06.win game for the pair from Wales. Best of five match.

:06:07. > :06:50.win game for the pair from Wales. wonderful shot from Philips. The

:06:51. > :07:00.Welsh pair are widening their lead. Unlucky in that last point, the

:07:01. > :07:35.Wales team. They lead 7-3. Trinidad narrowing the margin. Again, a very

:07:36. > :07:59.positive attack from Phillips. Ho! Scorching shot from Humphreys.

:08:00. > :08:03.A pressure situation here for the Wales team, fighting to try to stay

:08:04. > :08:27.in the match. Edwards and Phillips now with two

:08:28. > :09:02.game points. A bit unlucky for Phillips and

:09:03. > :09:16.Edwards here. The net intervening. Still game point. And they will take

:09:17. > :09:18.it. They take the third Game 11-9. It is still Humphreys and Quashie

:09:19. > :09:58.leading 2-1. Some lovely depth into the body of

:09:59. > :10:27.Conor Edwards. Maybe a feud to many options. -- a few too many.

:10:28. > :10:32.Great job from the Welsh duo. Keeping their opponents off-balance.

:10:33. > :11:05.Straight into the body of Quashie. The returning of Phillips has really

:11:06. > :11:16.improved throughout this match. Couldn't get quite enough height on

:11:17. > :11:37.the top-spin. Black level. -- back level.

:11:38. > :12:01.Great comeback. From the Welsh partnership. Now leading 7-4. Four

:12:02. > :12:33.consecutive points to Edwards and Phillips. Closing in on this game.

:12:34. > :12:47.Six game points for the Welsh team. They have taken six consecutive

:12:48. > :13:08.points. And they keep up the momentum. Two games all.

:13:09. > :13:38.Tricky shot from Edwards. It is the deciding game.

:13:39. > :13:49.Time out after losing those first three points of the deciding game

:13:50. > :14:03.very quickly. Trinidad and Tobago do not want this to get away from them.

:14:04. > :14:15.Just needed to get back to the corner. To get his head right.

:14:16. > :14:18.Curtis Humphreys. See whether it makes a difference for him and his

:14:19. > :14:56.partner. outmanoeuvring their opponents -

:14:57. > :15:44.keeping them off balance. That is going to make Curtis

:15:45. > :15:53.Humphreys feel a lot better, success for the forehand top spin. The big

:15:54. > :16:21.wind up. They can't string the points together at the moment.

:16:22. > :16:31.A wonderful slice on the serve from Phillips. Just mixed the length of

:16:32. > :16:50.it up very nicely. And always with a lot of work on it.

:16:51. > :17:29.Now things getting very tight out here and they have called a

:17:30. > :18:17.time-out. Three consecutive points going against his players.

:18:18. > :18:33.A massive point that one. The Welsh team two points from victory.

:18:34. > :18:48.Three match points for Edwards and Phillips.

:18:49. > :19:09.And there it is - Edwards and Phillips taking it in five games.

:19:10. > :19:25.They came from 2-0 down. What a come back. All credit to them. Excellent

:19:26. > :19:38.result for the youngsters from Wales. Connor Edward and Angha had

:19:39. > :19:43.Phillips taking it. A very young pairing, 20 and 17 years old. We

:19:44. > :19:47.have stepped out and it is very windy. In terms of Team Scotland,

:19:48. > :19:55.the home crowd have been supporting them all the way in every sport. But

:19:56. > :20:03.today they have had their allegiances divided in the

:20:04. > :20:05.wrestling. They're not guaranteed a medal Scotland. One will progress

:20:06. > :20:34.with the chance. When you train with each other you

:20:35. > :20:39.know the others styles and it makes it difficult to do moves, because

:20:40. > :20:59.they know what your moves are. Hawke is in the blue.

:21:00. > :21:05.A bit of control. Got the two on one. No activity, the referee stops

:21:06. > :21:20.them. It is looking for the ankles, but

:21:21. > :21:48.not quite getting them. The referee's warning them Clason

:21:49. > :21:55.needs to attack. Going for the throw. Going to the edge of the mat

:21:56. > :22:02.as well. And down the way. An attempted draw on the edge of the

:22:03. > :22:08.mat. The first points scored. From the referee. And the first points

:22:09. > :22:27.scored is by Jane Clason. The referee's warning Hawke. She

:22:28. > :22:35.goes for a double drive and driving. A good counter. Almost from Clason.

:22:36. > :22:43.No points scored. Nothing. It is a tough match. There is not much in

:22:44. > :22:49.these two at all. The referees not watching the mat. He has given two

:22:50. > :22:53.and two more. Two for Hawke in the blue. The referee is looking over to

:22:54. > :23:07.the side. The wrestling is going on and he seemed not aware at that

:23:08. > :23:12.point. So it is 4-1. They will take down two for the turn. 30 seconds of

:23:13. > :23:35.this first period to go. Hawke in the blue. Two Scots

:23:36. > :23:42.fighters. You need to... Oh there is a defence. The front head lock

:23:43. > :23:46.position. That will be the end of this first period. You said, John,

:23:47. > :23:51.two fighters who know each other well. They're likely to have a

:23:52. > :23:56.close, gritty contest. That is what we got. That one moment from Hawke

:23:57. > :24:02.where she got the two quick scores. A bit of quality with the double

:24:03. > :24:07.leg. It was an attempted throw and it was stopped. There was there was

:24:08. > :24:19.a gut-wrench to the side and the back is being exposed there as you

:24:20. > :24:35.will see. As they come back again. She goes again. And they're quickly

:24:36. > :24:40.back out. A brief 30 second break. You know you're getting old when

:24:41. > :24:54.people have Tom Daley listed as their hero. They're looking for the

:24:55. > :24:57.leg. The two on one. A good position, Hawke's head is in the

:24:58. > :25:15.side. It is hard to score with somebody in a tight position.

:25:16. > :25:27.She is setting up. Good defence from Hawke. She knows it is coming and is

:25:28. > :25:32.ready for it. The referee has given the take down. Two more. Hawke leads

:25:33. > :25:50.6-1. Just over two minutes to go. I am sure if you're going to lose

:25:51. > :25:58.you would rather lose to a friend and colleague. But it will be a blow

:25:59. > :26:03.to Clason if she loses to the younger fighter. The crowd are very

:26:04. > :26:08.quiet. They don't want to show any bias. There is another take down for

:26:09. > :26:16.another two points. A difficult one for the coaches as well. Clason

:26:17. > :26:20.still has got that throw in her. But at 10-1 it is going to be a long way

:26:21. > :26:26.back. One more score for Hawke now would do it. Back into the middle

:26:27. > :26:42.they go. A minute and a half of the fight scheduled. If we get that far.

:26:43. > :26:51.Clason needs the pin. She needs to go from a throw to a pin. Good

:26:52. > :26:59.counter by Hawke and she is going for the pin herself. She has got it.

:27:00. > :27:06.Victory for Shannon Hawke. It was a convincing victory as well. That was

:27:07. > :27:11.a spectacular end. A great performance by Hawke. That is the

:27:12. > :27:17.first Scottish victory we have seen in this match so far. The home crowd

:27:18. > :27:22.now wave their flags. A very good performance from Shannon Hawke. She

:27:23. > :27:28.has been wrestling for a long time as a junior and a great first match

:27:29. > :27:33.for the seniors. She drives. They were going for the three, but it was

:27:34. > :27:38.a nice counter and into the pin. Clason being the offensive fighter.

:27:39. > :27:47.Excellent technique though by Shannon Hawke and she is the victor.

:27:48. > :27:51.So much sport happening around at the Commonwealth Games today wif

:27:52. > :28:02.come in -- we have come in for shelter and we have been asking you

:28:03. > :28:10.to send in your common Commonwelfies. The first we can show

:28:11. > :28:18.you is Jonathan, who is at the badminton. And next Dame Kelly

:28:19. > :28:25.Holmes got involved, snapping the Breakfast presenters. Becky has

:28:26. > :28:32.grabbed England's 1,500 silver medallist on her lap of honour.

:28:33. > :28:39.Robin and her friend take one at the athletics at Hampden Park. Well,

:28:40. > :28:51.look at the work that this couple have put in. Kenneth and Carmel. Eus

:28:52. > :28:56.about -- tell us about the face int paint. We were at the station and a

:28:57. > :29:03.woman said you look as if you need your face painted. It is typical

:29:04. > :29:07.Scottish - Glasgow people are tremendous. All the time. They're

:29:08. > :29:13.the best people in the world. And we have provided the best sports in the

:29:14. > :29:19.world. Everybody's enjoying themselves. It is wonderful.

:29:20. > :29:23.Absolutely wonderful. It was fantastic when the sun was out b I

:29:24. > :29:28.the atmosphere hasn't changed. Is this your first day here? We were

:29:29. > :29:32.lucky enough to be offered a complimentary ticket for the

:29:33. > :29:38.rehearsal for the opening games on the wet Saturday, which we enjoyed.

:29:39. > :29:43.Very colourful and we are out for another fun day. What are you going

:29:44. > :29:52.to see? The badminton tonight. But we have had fun so far. I have got a

:29:53. > :29:59.recipe for a Commonwealth Games recipe, a Scottish Commonwealth

:30:00. > :30:03.celebration porridge. This sounds great. The crew are getting their

:30:04. > :30:10.pen and paper out. What is in it? We have had a family wedding recently.

:30:11. > :30:16.And when we have celebration I have my normal porridge but you add

:30:17. > :30:22.honey, then you add whisky, then you add double cream and then you top it

:30:23. > :30:27.up with local strawberries. Oh, my goodness. You had that for

:30:28. > :30:35.breakfast? Yes, as a celebration. All of them! I am not sure if that

:30:36. > :30:43.is the food of athletes, heading to the badminton, anything else today?

:30:44. > :30:53.We will go with the flow. I played badminton myself for over 20 years.

:30:54. > :30:58.So I only retired when I was 50. So I'm very keen on badminton. I still

:30:59. > :31:04.play, I beat my son recently. Not very keen about it. He wasn't very

:31:05. > :31:09.happy about it. But I just He beats him at golf. I have always been

:31:10. > :31:15.sporty, keep myself fit. This is a great day for everybody and it is

:31:16. > :31:23.nice to see some smiling faces. It is nice to see and mine I have a

:31:24. > :31:29.smiling face and it is lovely to see painted faces. Thank you for your

:31:30. > :31:47.company. Now, if you come with me, you can see the map, the poetry post

:31:48. > :31:54.cards. People have been coming from far and wide to see the Commonwealth

:31:55. > :31:59.Games. It was always going to be a fascinating battle this morning in

:32:00. > :32:04.the hockey, we will join it when they were locked together on six

:32:05. > :32:09.points. England only needed a draw to finish as the pool runners-up.

:32:10. > :32:12.points. England only needed a draw That would mean a place in the next

:32:13. > :32:27.round against 2010 runners-up New Zealand. COMMENTATOR: Scotland in

:32:28. > :32:38.all blue from left to right. England in their white tops, red skirt and

:32:39. > :32:48.read socks. Playing for a place in the semifinals. It sounds like there

:32:49. > :32:54.is a piper in the Glasgow National Hockey Centre. Flower of Scotland is

:32:55. > :33:31.echoing around as the stadium begins to fill. Davies, all the way back

:33:32. > :33:41.for Scotland. A bit of relief for Scotland for Scotland. Danson heads

:33:42. > :33:56.towards goal. What a goal. Alex Danson. Fantastic ball from Nick

:33:57. > :34:01.Wright. A great leave from Laura Unsworth to open up the channel.

:34:02. > :34:07.Danson spins beautifully and gets the ball off the ground with a few

:34:08. > :34:21.3-D skills. It makes it easier for her to get the stick underneath the

:34:22. > :34:28.ball. Great start for England. This is a great scoring opportunity. What

:34:29. > :34:39.a chance to equalise. Unsworth down the centre. England charging forward

:34:40. > :34:49.looking for a penalty corner. That is what they have got. England have

:34:50. > :34:58.got a number of options. Richardson Walsh on the sidelines is not one of

:34:59. > :35:08.them. It is Gilbert to inject. Susie Gilbert will inject. Scotland lose a

:35:09. > :35:14.defender because they were not ready within 40 seconds. One of the

:35:15. > :35:22.defenders has to go behind the halfway line. She got a dream card

:35:23. > :35:30.so she should be sat off. Now she is coming off. Unsworth. Still bouncing

:35:31. > :35:37.around. Dangerous for Scotland. And it is in. England get a second goal.

:35:38. > :35:52.Susanna Townsend scores it. England need 2-0. It is Unsworth off the

:35:53. > :35:58.top. Great running initially. Scotland are going to feel hard done

:35:59. > :36:02.by by the corner and by Ralph getting the Greenham card. --

:36:03. > :36:29.Greenham great running by Emily Waterman.

:36:30. > :36:34.Davies has sprinted on to join the attacking formation. Wiley will

:36:35. > :36:43.inject again. Here is the shot. It is a goal for Scotland. Nikki Kidd

:36:44. > :36:56.scores. Scotland's hopes are alive. A terrific drag back. Maddie Hinch

:36:57. > :37:02.has her weight or wrong in goal. She is falling backwards. Scotland have

:37:03. > :37:06.worked so hard on this set play routine. It is exactly the boost

:37:07. > :37:17.that they need just before half-time. Danson steals it from

:37:18. > :37:28.nearly. When his Davies going to nearly. When his Davies going to

:37:29. > :37:33.realise not to take Alex Danson off one-on-one. It is about the fourth

:37:34. > :37:40.time she has been picked off. It is a cheeky effort from Danson. Another

:37:41. > :37:50.penalty corner for Scotland. They get what they planned but not the

:37:51. > :37:56.goal. It is Wiley on the deflection. She has come in from the inject or

:37:57. > :38:08.post. Just too much of a touch on it. Wiley did well. Scotland

:38:09. > :38:16.menacing the England goal. To the edge of the circle. They get a

:38:17. > :38:20.penalty corner. Now, we have seen a couple of interesting moves from the

:38:21. > :38:42.penalty corner in the second half. Can Scotland make this one account?

:38:43. > :38:48.-- this one account. It falls to Kidd for the flick. Scotland with a

:38:49. > :38:55.free hit, all the way down to the corner. Into the circle. Scotland

:38:56. > :39:02.term, Scotland with a shot. It is saved, it is cleared. They get a

:39:03. > :39:12.penalty corner. Ralph and Kidd poised. Penalty corner, saved.

:39:13. > :39:19.Straight down the middle from Kidd. She is going to be disappointed. The

:39:20. > :39:28.crowd will reluctantly join in the countdown for the final ten seconds.

:39:29. > :39:36.It is all over. England have defeated Scotland by 2-1. They take

:39:37. > :39:41.their place in the Commonwealth Games semifinals. Scotland gave

:39:42. > :39:47.everything. They had a magnificent second-half but were unable to get

:39:48. > :39:57.the two goals required. A fantastic match here. The final result

:39:58. > :40:03.Scotland 1-2 England. A good result for England, commiserations to

:40:04. > :40:06.Scotland. This is the youngest member of team Heatley. Peter

:40:07. > :40:16.Heatley is the only Scottish athlete to have ever one three consecutive

:40:17. > :40:23.gold medals at a Commonwealth Games. This is his great-grandson. His

:40:24. > :40:28.other grandson has been diving this morning. James Heatly is through to

:40:29. > :40:33.the final of the one metre men's springboard. All of England's and

:40:34. > :40:43.Scotland's representatives are through to the final. Jack Law is

:40:44. > :40:48.also through. That is on tonight. Finley, you milk it. Enjoy your

:40:49. > :40:57.moment. Before we get to that, we have Tonia Couch and Sarah Barrow.

:40:58. > :41:01.In the synchronised ten metres this morning. They have a chance of a

:41:02. > :41:17.gold-medal. Let's hope that they can do it. COMMENTATOR: A very strong

:41:18. > :41:53.field. The pairs have done very well in the World Series. Probably the

:41:54. > :42:11.favourites. Meaghan Benfeito And Roseline Filion are probably the

:42:12. > :42:16.favourites. Now the English pairing of Sarah Barrow and Tonia Couch. Two

:42:17. > :42:32.silver medals in the World Series this year. In Canada and in London.

:42:33. > :42:36.Don't discount the Australians who have been competing a lot on the

:42:37. > :42:42.Grand Prix circuit. It is really wide open. Would you agree that the

:42:43. > :42:47.Canadian pair are the favourites? I am not going to go in on this one.

:42:48. > :42:56.In the World Cup in Shanghai a week and a half ago. The Chinese were the

:42:57. > :43:02.clear winners, followed by Malaysian and then Canada and Great Britain.

:43:03. > :43:11.Great Britain now translates to England with Sarah Barrow and Tonia

:43:12. > :43:16.Couch. This is a high-quality field. The medals could go to anyone in any

:43:17. > :43:23.position. I have no idea where it is going to go. It is a straight final,

:43:24. > :43:28.two rounds of required dives with limited degrees of difficulty. And

:43:29. > :43:35.then open rounds. Every single dive counts. If you make a mistake, you

:43:36. > :43:39.are off the podium. The last time that Tonia Couch and Sarah Barrow

:43:40. > :43:51.competed, they got second place in London. They could hopefully go a

:43:52. > :44:02.set better. Equalling what they did. The explanation of how the judging

:44:03. > :44:13.works. You have two sets of judges. The synchronisation judges and the

:44:14. > :44:18.execution judges. The execution judges are specifically marking the

:44:19. > :44:30.execution of the Diver close this to them. The remaining judges are

:44:31. > :44:45.looking specifically at the synchronisation. It is a fine detail

:44:46. > :44:49.how it is calculated. You get execution marks and synchronisation

:44:50. > :44:54.marks. They are lumped together and multiplied by the degree of

:44:55. > :44:58.difficulty to give you the total. It sounds more complicated than it is.

:44:59. > :45:15.It will make more sense as it goes on. The athletes in their area to

:45:16. > :45:23.watch this, which will be an exciting first medal event of the

:45:24. > :45:35.diving. There is Jack Law and Chris Spaers catch -- Spears catching up

:45:36. > :45:39.on social media. This is going to be close. I don't know which way this

:45:40. > :45:53.will go. I would normal put my predictions out there. But I'm going

:45:54. > :46:02.to stay completely I don't know. Paul not going to take one side or

:46:03. > :46:16.another. Benfeito will go first. And then the first of the Malaysian

:46:17. > :46:31.pairs. She has just turned 146789 Sarah Barrow and Tonia Couch will go

:46:32. > :46:36.number 4. -- just turned 14. They have been doing the Grand Prix

:46:37. > :46:41.circuit. They have been trawling around the Grand Prix circuit. This

:46:42. > :46:45.is why this contest will be so exciting, because some of the pairs

:46:46. > :46:51.haven't met each other on the world series. The only thing we have got

:46:52. > :46:57.to go from is the Shanghai World Cup two weeks ago and who topped that

:46:58. > :47:08.apart from the Chinese were the Malaysian pair of Jun and Munn. You

:47:09. > :47:11.have a weather of experience with the Canadian pair. They get to open

:47:12. > :47:27.this competition and put the pressure on the other girls. So

:47:28. > :47:32.let's see how people react. The English team's plane had to abort in

:47:33. > :47:37.Siberia on their way back from Shanghai. They were hoping to be

:47:38. > :47:43.back two or three days earlier and were held over in Siberia. Yes,

:47:44. > :47:48.speaking to the team, I didn't realise how serious it was. I was

:47:49. > :47:54.being flippant chatting to them, they were saying, actually it was

:47:55. > :47:59.pretty scary and the people, the staff on the plane, yeah, were very

:48:00. > :48:04.scared as well. But everyone was safe and sound the airline did a

:48:05. > :48:09.great job of getting them back. So everyone's bedded in now, readjusted

:48:10. > :48:13.to the time zone. There is a few sleepy people, but most of them have

:48:14. > :48:23.been in Shanghai. So everyone's had the same lead in to this. It didn't

:48:24. > :48:26.affect Jack Law. Yes, he was on fire this morning. Let's see how these

:48:27. > :48:32.girls find it. It is a straight final. Unlike the guys this morning

:48:33. > :48:39.where they were in prehim moed, this -- mode, this matters from the get

:48:40. > :48:44.go. So much judges, it takes them a while to get into place. I think I

:48:45. > :48:49.have asked you this before, why is the women's five rounds and the

:48:50. > :48:53.men's six? Yeah, OK, imoo not entirely sure why. But the men do

:48:54. > :48:58.six and the women do five in the individual and they try to keep the

:48:59. > :49:01.same ratio if you like. Is it like tennis where you have three sets for

:49:02. > :49:08.women and five for men? I would say it is like that. We can talk, I am

:49:09. > :49:11.sure the girls would like to do more. You ask them. You steam to

:49:12. > :49:16.think the girls would want to do the same as a men, but at the moment the

:49:17. > :49:24.restrictions are they do five rounds and not six. That's right. When we

:49:25. > :49:33.won our Olympic medal in Athens it was only five rounds in the mens and

:49:34. > :49:40.they decided to up it. The rules and regular Gages have been deemed

:49:41. > :49:44.appropriate for the contest. Just to outline, we seem to have a technical

:49:45. > :49:49.problem, we were supposed to be starting now. But there is a

:49:50. > :49:53.technical complexity they need to overcome. The first two rounds will

:49:54. > :49:59.be the same degree of difficulty. They won't be the same dive. They

:50:00. > :50:07.will change around. Like the Ca Nade yards will start with ininward dive

:50:08. > :50:10.and then we will see reverse dives in the second round the Canadians do

:50:11. > :50:15.their reverse dives and there is a back dive from everyone else. So

:50:16. > :50:21.there is a bit of variety. Whatever you do in the first two rounds has a

:50:22. > :50:31.limited degree of difficulty of 2.0. You could do a dive that is 1.2 or

:50:32. > :50:36.2.4, but you would get 2.0. These are the limited degree of difficulty

:50:37. > :50:40.rounds. What you're doing, you won't see much change in the leader boord,

:50:41. > :50:46.but it is nice to have your nose in front and get into the competition.

:50:47. > :50:51.In my opinion, it is important, because these are the most beautiful

:50:52. > :50:54.dives when you see and the competition starts, they're the

:50:55. > :50:59.elegant dives. It what is diving used to be like, where you're doing

:51:00. > :51:09.simple movements and the final three rounds are the chunky rounds, the

:51:10. > :51:15.big dives come out, the 3.0and the 3.2, these are the hardest wuvens.

:51:16. > :51:20.And sometimes mistakes happen. So it is a nice mix in the competition. To

:51:21. > :51:24.have those required dives in there. They got rid of them from the

:51:25. > :51:28.individual competitions in the Commonwealth Games in Manchester. I

:51:29. > :51:34.remember doing the required dives in the morning and the optional dives

:51:35. > :51:39.in the evening. So I'm pleased they're keeping them in for the

:51:40. > :51:45.contest throughout the world now. Now, not only is this a pressure

:51:46. > :51:53.cooker any way, but yo got delays. This can play with your mind. What

:51:54. > :52:03.doo we do, do we sit down and put our music on. Do we do a practice

:52:04. > :52:09.dive? The pair of are walking down the stairs, because they're not

:52:10. > :52:14.going to be going any time soon. It is a long way up and a long way

:52:15. > :52:19.down. You can't really get their quickly. If the referee says we're

:52:20. > :52:25.on and you're still in the shower getting prepared, you have got to

:52:26. > :52:28.regular it -- leg it up the steps. We will listen to the officials

:52:29. > :52:36.deciding what they're going to do. You can't run a diving competition

:52:37. > :52:40.unless the score board is working. And I believe that is what they're

:52:41. > :52:45.waiting for. We have had one competition with one set of pads for

:52:46. > :52:51.the normal judging. But they need to separate them out here and we have

:52:52. > :52:56.the execution and the synchro judges and they're having a problem sorting

:52:57. > :53:04.out the pads. The pads on one side don't seem to be working. The judges

:53:05. > :53:08.have to wear their outfits, they're boiling, it is very warm here. It is

:53:09. > :53:11.going to be a very good crowd. Certainly for the evening sessions

:53:12. > :53:16.and if you're looking to get tickets, there are still a few for

:53:17. > :53:20.sessions here in Edinburgh. Not many. Go on the Commonwealth Games

:53:21. > :53:25.web-site. There are a few tickets for the sessions. You must have been

:53:26. > :53:32.in this position before, same competition for the men, what do you

:53:33. > :53:37.do in is in situation? That is the challenge. You have had weather

:53:38. > :53:42.interruptions. This is a delay before the competition gets juntd

:53:43. > :53:48.way. -- under way. So you come down from the boards, xeep warm and --

:53:49. > :53:53.keep warm and run through what you need to run through. Make sure your

:53:54. > :53:59.attention is in the right place and not looking at the crowd and if your

:54:00. > :54:06.attention goes to places where you feel the nerves coming on, then

:54:07. > :54:11.shift it to somewhere else. It is mind games. Diving is a massive

:54:12. > :54:17.undertaking fiscally, but mentally is where it is won and lost. The

:54:18. > :54:22.girls will be trying to leap off at the same time, spinning off before

:54:23. > :54:27.crashing into the water at speeds approaching 40mph. It is not for the

:54:28. > :54:32.feint hearted and you have got to get it right. In this competition

:54:33. > :54:38.thif got five Dave -- they have got five dives to do. If either of you

:54:39. > :54:47.make a mess of one, you're out of it. That is mind games. That is

:54:48. > :54:54.mental toughness at its... At its most extreme. The only 3.3 dive you

:54:55. > :55:01.will see comes from the Canadians in Round 4. Even else will get the 2s

:55:02. > :55:08.out of the way. The Canadians have an extra degree of difficulty. Yes,

:55:09. > :55:12.but it is marginal. These pairs, all five, are all world class. All in

:55:13. > :55:19.the top six in the world. You have two teams from Malaysia, which is

:55:20. > :55:25.unusual. Usually it is one pair per nation, apart from the Commonwealth

:55:26. > :55:34.Games. Malaysia has strength in-depth and having seen Pandelela

:55:35. > :55:40.is an Olympic medallist. There they are. It is not the normal pairing.

:55:41. > :55:44.No, the team Malaysia have found themselves in a position where they

:55:45. > :55:48.have got lots of options in this event and strength in-depth. They

:55:49. > :55:54.have elected the pairings the way they are, but who knows where they

:55:55. > :55:58.will go for the next two years. Look at this guy from Malaysia, is that

:55:59. > :56:04.where he is from do you think? Looking at that point, you would say

:56:05. > :56:10.the US, but you can see the stripe. The head band says Malaysia. That

:56:11. > :56:20.may give it away! I'm quick like that! I think, we will wait and see

:56:21. > :56:23.if there is any action. No one is making their way up the stairs. On

:56:24. > :56:29.the red button stick with us. We will be back in a few moments. But

:56:30. > :56:35.we don't have any indication of when things will start. So rather than us

:56:36. > :56:41.talk gibberish, I think... We are going to give it one more look

:56:42. > :56:46.across to see how fared a vapsed -- advanced we are. Technically I think

:56:47. > :56:52.there is still a few tweaks to be made. We will let you watch this for

:56:53. > :56:56.a moment and soon as we get some action we will come back. So don't

:56:57. > :56:58.disappear, because we won't. We will return when we see some action. See

:56:59. > :57:16.you shortly. Sarah Barrow and Tonia Couch getting

:57:17. > :57:19.ready. We have a technical delay. Not our fault. But this is an

:57:20. > :57:24.opportunity to learn more about Sarah and Tonia. Two legends of the

:57:25. > :57:31.sport, they're Britain's longest serving female pairing and they have

:57:32. > :57:37.performed all over the world but they haven't got that major

:57:38. > :57:42.international medal yet? If you're not in Nair fan club, here is what

:57:43. > :57:50.you need to know. -- in their fan club. We have been partner since

:57:51. > :57:56.2010 in diving. So we know each other well. Have I known her since

:57:57. > :57:58.she was seven. If you don't get on, I can't match it working as well.

:57:59. > :58:12.She brought me into the sport when she broke her arm in gymnastics. It

:58:13. > :58:18.is exciting. It is exciting to be competing for England. She is always

:58:19. > :58:25.laughing and joking and we train together and pull each other along.

:58:26. > :58:30.We got two silvers and we came fifth in the wurld cup. We have been

:58:31. > :58:37.competing with the best of the world. We have had a busy year and

:58:38. > :58:41.looking forward to competing. We know when we are ready. We are

:58:42. > :58:45.relaxed, but focussed in a different way. I like to be in my little

:58:46. > :58:53.bubble. If we don't say much, I think we are too nervous. If we

:58:54. > :58:58.talk, we see that as a good sign. We turn adrenaline into a good thing.

:58:59. > :59:02.It helps that we have a home crowd kind of supporting us. It is a tough

:59:03. > :59:07.competition for the women's ten metre, all the girls that competed

:59:08. > :59:13.against us in the World Cup beat us. But we have beaten them before. If

:59:14. > :59:18.I'm smiling, I will dive well. It depends what happens on the day. We

:59:19. > :59:23.are all capable of beating each other. Let's hope we beat them this

:59:24. > :59:28.time. They're waiting in the wings. They have a real chance to medal

:59:29. > :59:33.here this morning. They're two of the names people know and love. But

:59:34. > :59:40.one another name in the diving people who people love is Tom Daley.

:59:41. > :59:41.He dives on Friday and Saturday. If you didn't know that much about him,

:59:42. > :59:53.here is something else you might like to know.

:59:54. > :00:01.Yes it is a good one. Tom Daley has done everything he can. Tom Daley,

:00:02. > :00:16.you could not have done any more. It is out of your hands now. 2013 was a

:00:17. > :00:19.rough year for me, riddled with injury. 2014 has come with a lot of

:00:20. > :00:24.changes. I have moved to London, got a new coach and I'm doing new

:00:25. > :00:28.exercises in the gym and changed a lot of my techniques and the

:00:29. > :00:34.competitions have been going well. I got a personal best in Mexico and

:00:35. > :00:47.came away with a silver. Now, I'm making the step between being good

:00:48. > :00:52.to get into the excellent category. You mentioned it your personal best.

:00:53. > :01:00.What is the difference to get that extra special score? The littlest

:01:01. > :01:06.things make a massive difference. If I don't .1 of my toes, if I just

:01:07. > :01:14.slightly go over the vertical, the smallest thing can make big

:01:15. > :01:24.difference. COMMENTATOR: Tom Daley goes into the water, hardly any

:01:25. > :01:29.splash. Get in! What was special about Commonwealth gold? The

:01:30. > :01:34.Commonwealth Games is a massive thing on the diving calendar. To

:01:35. > :01:37.compete in Delhi and to come away with two medals, it was fantastic. I

:01:38. > :01:48.can't wait to get the chance to do another one. COMMENTATOR: It is not

:01:49. > :01:59.so good. He lost it all on the take-off. Maybe the flashes put him

:02:00. > :02:05.off. What about the Demon dive? The twister Rushton muck everybody has a

:02:06. > :02:10.dive they are a bit scared of. For me it has always been the back

:02:11. > :02:15.twister. I am quite optimistic that in the Commonwealth Games I will be

:02:16. > :02:21.able to nail that dive. Have you been seeing a therapist or a

:02:22. > :02:27.psychologist? There are so many things to talk about with a sports

:02:28. > :02:30.psychologist. It is a crucial part of your game to be mentally in a

:02:31. > :02:47.position where you think that you can win. To get another Commonwealth

:02:48. > :02:53.gold medal would mean so much. It only happens every four years. It is

:02:54. > :03:00.not an event where you can say, it is OK, I can try again next year.

:03:01. > :03:05.You train for four years and you get six dives to try to get a medal and

:03:06. > :03:08.if you mess up once, you are out. There is still a lot of work to be

:03:09. > :03:12.done but by the time the Commonwealth Games happens, I will

:03:13. > :03:25.be on the end of the board and hopefully in good shape. Well, if we

:03:26. > :03:30.were nervous before, we are certainly nervous now. There has

:03:31. > :03:35.been some sort of technical glitch and we have been delayed. I feel for

:03:36. > :03:36.the divers. Sarah Barrow and Tonia Couch have

:03:37. > :03:42.the divers. Sarah Barrow and Tonia Couch been up the stairs, down the

:03:43. > :03:48.stairs, what do you do at this point? Bob Ballard, Leon Taylor? You

:03:49. > :04:01.are psych. But we do not know what is happening. We were ready about 20

:04:02. > :04:07.minutes ago. There seems to be a problem with the input pads for the

:04:08. > :04:14.scores. But we do have some divers on the boards. We have the all clear

:04:15. > :04:20.to go for the final. It is the final of the women's ten metres

:04:21. > :04:26.synchronised platform. There are two from Malaysian, one from England,

:04:27. > :04:31.one from Canada and one from Australia. We will take you through

:04:32. > :04:41.the mine a shy of what you need to know. Five rounds of dives, Leon.

:04:42. > :04:48.The first two rounds are obligatory. The ones that they have to do. Then

:04:49. > :04:52.the optional is, after that. I am finding this a particularly

:04:53. > :04:58.interesting. The crowd are getting restless. What is happening to the

:04:59. > :05:06.divers? They are standing around not sure what is happening. The judges

:05:07. > :05:09.still waiting for the all clear. Off-screen, the Canadian pair have

:05:10. > :05:16.taken the easy way down from the ten meter. They have let off. Instead of

:05:17. > :05:25.coming down by the stairs, they have taken the 1.5 second option and

:05:26. > :05:29.jumped off. This is tough. It is going to be the closest run a

:05:30. > :05:36.competition of this diving programme because of the quality of the field.

:05:37. > :05:41.It is world class. I am not using that word lightly. We have four of

:05:42. > :05:48.the top five from last week at the Shanghai World Cup. The atmosphere

:05:49. > :05:54.is electric. Apart from the Chinese, we have the rest of the best of the

:05:55. > :05:59.world. They are getting hot under the collar poolside because

:06:00. > :06:04.everybody wants to get underway. Here we go, it looks like the

:06:05. > :06:08.Canadian pair are making their way back up the spiral staircase. The

:06:09. > :06:18.coaches are looking nervous, as well. The coach of Tonia Couch and

:06:19. > :06:25.Sarah Barrow in the background. The Canadian coaches in the forefront.

:06:26. > :06:30.They were practising again off the three metre platform. It looks like

:06:31. > :06:34.we are going to have another delay. Some are going off the five metre

:06:35. > :06:42.board, some are going off the three metre board. They were ready for

:06:43. > :06:48.competition 25 minutes ago. What kind of impact will this have on

:06:49. > :06:54.them? When you are ready to go, you are in the starting chorale, that is

:06:55. > :06:58.when you need to be there. It is frustrating and annoying but there

:06:59. > :07:10.is nothing that you can do about it. You have to make the best of the

:07:11. > :07:16.situation. All of the has back in the water with the judge 's

:07:17. > :07:25.permission. They are getting ready mentally. It is about how best to

:07:26. > :07:34.use the time. There we go, technical delay, what does that mean? The

:07:35. > :07:39.difference from earlier on, just straight evaluation from the judges

:07:40. > :07:44.of a dive, here we have the execution judges. It doesn't mean

:07:45. > :07:52.they come out with a guillotine. There are synchronised judges who

:07:53. > :07:57.are just looking at the synchro involved in a dive. The judges have

:07:58. > :08:02.two separate areas where they sit. This seems to be causing the

:08:03. > :08:08.convocation. Maybe they have had to shift things around. There are an

:08:09. > :08:13.additional five judges involved. And a digital for judges in the

:08:14. > :08:22.individual event. They keep increasing the numbers. There is an

:08:23. > :08:26.11. Five for the synchronisation and six for the execution. The highest

:08:27. > :08:34.and lowest on a research of the execution marks are taken away. Then

:08:35. > :08:37.the three middle marks for the synchronisation carried forward and

:08:38. > :08:45.multiplied by the difficulty total. For each of the five dives. Aside

:08:46. > :08:52.from the Chinese, this is a rerun of what happened in Shanghai two weeks

:08:53. > :08:57.ago. China aside, it was essentially a Commonwealth Games final in

:08:58. > :09:03.itself. Two strong pairs from Malaysia who are excellent. Strong

:09:04. > :09:10.showing in the recent World Cup in Shanghai, just behind the formidable

:09:11. > :09:17.Chinese pair. Sarah Barrow and Tonia Couch were second in London and the

:09:18. > :09:28.second in Windsor. Can this delay have an effect on the judges? Yes,

:09:29. > :09:34.the size of the crowd and the location. If the crowd are really

:09:35. > :09:38.loud and standing on their feet it could potentially give the judges a

:09:39. > :09:43.boost. Of course, the judges would never say that they would be

:09:44. > :09:48.affected by the atmosphere but they are only human. More than

:09:49. > :09:54.importantly it can lift the competitors game. They will want to

:09:55. > :10:09.lift the sport and Altima lead to liver. In the swimming, we were

:10:10. > :10:13.saying that we have seen the growth and emergence of the competitors

:10:14. > :10:20.from England. It has been a hotbed for many years. Recently they have

:10:21. > :10:26.had a fantastic facility to boot. They are using that as best they

:10:27. > :10:31.can. Andy Wagstaff in Plymouth is the head coach. Tom Daley was based

:10:32. > :10:37.their full-time but is now in London. There has been a central

:10:38. > :10:41.hub, a high-performance training Centre for British diving. Emerging

:10:42. > :10:49.talent, as well. Matthew Dixon at the age of 14 is based in Plymouth,

:10:50. > :10:54.one of the youngest members of team England. Victoria Vincent, the

:10:55. > :10:59.youngest member at the age of 13 featuring in the women's platform

:11:00. > :11:02.later in the programme. Both based in Plymouth, so there is strength in

:11:03. > :11:12.depth down at that high-performance centre. Sadly, the pair that we were

:11:13. > :11:17.looking forward to seeing in the ten metre men's Singh. They are not

:11:18. > :11:22.going to be here. They are in sync with their injuries. They both have

:11:23. > :11:26.elbow injuries. Very frustrating for them because they had good

:11:27. > :11:34.performances this year. We have another pair in it. A late entry, if

:11:35. > :11:39.you like. Would we have heard of them? The pairing we will be

:11:40. > :11:46.watching all being well is Tom Daley, who you might recognise, and

:11:47. > :11:52.James Denny. A young diver of 22 from Leeds. His potential has been

:11:53. > :11:57.highlighted to be a permanent feature as Tom Daley's partner. He

:11:58. > :12:04.has got the strength and the dives. Has he got the consistency? That

:12:05. > :12:10.event is wide open. If Peter Porter is at home listening, maybe he

:12:11. > :12:17.should get his head up and we could start diving again. I think you

:12:18. > :12:25.could do it. You are in great shape. I would get one diving before my

:12:26. > :12:31.body gave up on me, I think. You could do the six. Possibly. We will

:12:32. > :12:36.see if we can get a late entry. We were going to have two pairs from

:12:37. > :12:41.England so you and Tom and James can get going. I cannot shed any more

:12:42. > :12:47.light on when this is going to start. A technical delay, you can

:12:48. > :12:53.see on your screen. We believe it is to do with the input pads in terms

:12:54. > :12:57.of marking from the judges. There are a lot of frowns and some very

:12:58. > :13:05.anxious looking faces. I think we are still a little way off getting

:13:06. > :13:09.the ten metre synchronised platform underway. There will be five pairs

:13:10. > :13:28.when we do get underway. Canada, two from the Malaysia, then Rachel

:13:29. > :13:34.Barrow and Tonia Couch. No divers are visible on the pool edge. That

:13:35. > :13:38.is it. I thought I saw a thumbs up from one of the technical officials.

:13:39. > :13:44.We are moving in the right direction. It is all about body

:13:45. > :13:49.language. We are not getting any information from downstairs at the

:13:50. > :13:53.moment. The divers are being told what is going on. They are now

:13:54. > :14:02.running about 35 minutes late on this. Time which is rearranged.

:14:03. > :14:12.Also, luckily we don't have to go into another event. We will have the

:14:13. > :14:15.proper turnaround time. The information is being passed to the

:14:16. > :14:25.judges. The coaches are being told that something is happening. Trying

:14:26. > :14:33.to work out from their faces, their expressions and reactions, what they

:14:34. > :14:40.are thinking. Could be bolted onto the programme tonight but that might

:14:41. > :14:48.make it a bit too long. Trying to eavesdrop on what is going on. Any

:14:49. > :14:56.more information that you can see, Leon? It looks as though we are

:14:57. > :15:05.going back to the old school where the judges hold of marks in an old

:15:06. > :15:08.school style. - hold up marks. The judging cards which many diving

:15:09. > :15:22.competitions around the world still use. That is going to make it quite

:15:23. > :15:29.tricky to call. Let's wait and see. If you want to see whether Sarah and

:15:30. > :15:34.Tonia can get that medal, then flip over to BBC1. There is so much sport

:15:35. > :15:41.going on and there are loads of ways to keep up with the action. Be part

:16:11. > :16:17.We will be heading to Kelvingrove shortly as Scotland hope to redress

:16:18. > :16:21.the balance after being beaten by England in the hockey this morning.

:16:22. > :16:30.They're hoping that they can redress the balance in bowls at Kelvingrove.

:16:31. > :16:36.We are down outside the BBC. There is a carnival atmosphere, in case

:16:37. > :16:42.you are wondering what the noise is. Now let's head to Kelvingrove and

:16:43. > :16:55.see how Scotland fair against -- fare against England in this match.

:16:56. > :17:03.Sneaking past it. It is not a bad ball, but it is going to be hard to

:17:04. > :17:19.get to the England shot, that one in front.

:17:20. > :17:34.The wind just gusting. She just stood off the mat for a moment.

:17:35. > :17:45.Just around that front one. It is a good weighted bowl. That will force

:17:46. > :17:52.Margaret into playing into this. A good delivery by Sian. A lovely

:17:53. > :17:59.weight to come around those short bowls. Coming in for another shot. I

:18:00. > :18:07.can't see Margaret mucking around with it.

:18:08. > :18:15.It is on the forehand. That is an interesting choice. Playing good

:18:16. > :18:19.weight there. In the area for something. Ooh, well! She got one

:18:20. > :18:37.out. Made it The England bowls now being brought

:18:38. > :18:47.out into the open. This needs to hurry - not there. That bowl has

:18:48. > :18:53.been pushed out on the wing a little and Margaret will be able to see

:18:54. > :18:58.that quite clearly from the mat. Her own bowl on to jack is also good.

:18:59. > :19:05.They have got a couple of bowls behind. That is what the girls are

:19:06. > :19:10.indicating. Bowl out or bowl on the jack would be excellent. Wasn't too

:19:11. > :19:25.far away with the last one. So something similar.

:19:26. > :19:39.Looks wide to me. Yeah, wanted to be almost the same bowl as the last

:19:40. > :19:44.time. Pushed it out a bit more. The marker indicating one to England.

:19:45. > :19:51.That will do. One of them. Had to score. A third of the way through

:19:52. > :19:54.the game. Pushing on score. A third of the way through

:19:55. > :20:21.here. Just over half an hour gone. Sophie just indicating with her hand

:20:22. > :20:26.to straighten the jack. A lot of viewers will with used to the indoor

:20:27. > :20:31.where they have dots along the rink, or in the southern hemisphere where

:20:32. > :20:39.they have a chalk mark down. That helps with the jack. That doesn't

:20:40. > :20:43.happen with outdoor bowls. The chalk wouldn't last long in the wet

:20:44. > :20:50.conditions. That is true, maybe we do have our share of wet weather.

:20:51. > :20:55.You're from Australia - behave yourself, you don't know what wet

:20:56. > :21:00.weather is. Sadly you do get some floods in the Northern Territories.

:21:01. > :21:05.That was a disaster the last time. But generally speaking we play bowls

:21:06. > :21:08.in the rain far too often up here. Correction, catching a bit too much

:21:09. > :21:33.of an edge of that short bowl. Just a little bit far away for the

:21:34. > :21:37.lead. Looking for the lead to get within that half yard if neck. -- if

:21:38. > :22:01.they can. That is dropping through. There is a little push. I think her

:22:02. > :22:35.track was quite good. Another bowl that just set down as

:22:36. > :23:15.it arrived. That opens it up a bit. Certainly

:23:16. > :23:52.arriving with a bit of weight. A very successful indoor player as

:23:53. > :23:59.well as outdoor. It needs to stop. Run through.

:24:00. > :24:10.She is looking for the same track. It depends on the weight now. Looks

:24:11. > :24:31.good. Certainly good enough. Not sure if she has enough weight on

:24:32. > :24:37.this. Not a time to be short. She had every opportunity to pick up a

:24:38. > :24:42.jack or draw there. But obviously quite difficult for the girls out

:24:43. > :24:47.there with these gusty wind. My goodness me, there was four there.

:24:48. > :25:01.Short bowl, four against. Lots of holes. She was trying to draw it.

:25:02. > :25:11.A nice little run new for England. -- a nice little run now for

:25:12. > :25:58.England. She is on a good line there.

:25:59. > :26:13.Tracking a bit across. More the weight the problem.

:26:14. > :26:51.Quite difficult to call these bowls when they're coming up. We can judge

:26:52. > :26:53.the weight of things, but with the pattern that is on them, it is hard

:26:54. > :27:11.to tell. Trying with this one. Needs to

:27:12. > :27:18.hurry. She's there. Good bowl. There is the Scottish coach, David

:27:19. > :27:23.Gourlay, A good job to put this Scottish team together. Lots of

:27:24. > :27:31.talent of course available. Ellen arriving on the forehand. A very

:27:32. > :27:32.good result for Ellen. Well played. Good bowl. Turneded off the bowl on

:27:33. > :27:54.to the jack. It is heading in the right

:27:55. > :27:56.direction. Just swinging away. It needed a little edge just to

:27:57. > :28:42.straighten her up on to the bowl. Not quite there. It's still

:28:43. > :28:46.reasonably early days, we are on the eighth end. But when you start

:28:47. > :28:52.looking at the table, Scotland, well, pretty well assured, unless

:28:53. > :28:58.something really goes badly wrong in this match, of getting into the

:28:59. > :29:04.quarters. England, well, they need to win. The way things are going,

:29:05. > :29:08.Northern Ireland are beating PNG by a bit of a margin. So it's all

:29:09. > :29:21.getting very interesting. They will not worry about it at this

:29:22. > :29:32.stage. They're getting advice I'm sure from their management when it

:29:33. > :29:34.comes to ends 14 and 15. There is just too many things that can go

:29:35. > :30:10.wrong at the moment. Not there. Goodness me, now they

:30:11. > :30:14.will have to think about this. Tom Armstrong on the left, an England

:30:15. > :30:24.internationalist from some years ago. Part of the management,

:30:25. > :30:29.coaching structure of England. I have say they're still very well

:30:30. > :30:35.funded for their team for bowls. Margaret has a chance. That's gone!

:30:36. > :30:39.Now what's happened to it? I have a feeling her bowl has gone off the

:30:40. > :30:58.rink and if that is the case it is going to be one to England. A good

:30:59. > :31:09.strike all the way. The jack was off the rink. But unfortunately her ball

:31:10. > :31:20.went off. One for England. There was an England bowl lurking at the back.

:31:21. > :31:26.I am surprised she didn't play that with her first, leaving the second

:31:27. > :31:50.potentially to draw. The rain approaching again. Cover up time.

:31:51. > :32:13.It wouldn't be very pleasant for the players out there but they are used

:32:14. > :32:25.to it. It is just a bit of a squall. They just have to make sure that the

:32:26. > :32:44.bowls are dry enough. That was a very good bowl from Clare. Opening

:32:45. > :32:54.that up. Some players find their wet gear very restrictive. Others are

:32:55. > :33:07.very comfortable wearing it. This one will dive back. Here it comes.

:33:08. > :33:10.Two very good bowls from Clare. There are all those great stories

:33:11. > :33:24.about how the bias of a ball was discovered. Now there is so much

:33:25. > :33:41.choice, colours, sizes and weights, grips. Emblems. Everything you can

:33:42. > :33:55.think of. A lot of players have their names inscribed upon the bowls

:33:56. > :34:10.as well. Yvonne with herb bowl there to promote. Falling a little short.

:34:11. > :34:17.-- her bowl. Clare changing to open hand. Probably the safer option. It

:34:18. > :34:55.is but you have to get your shoulder behind it on that side. It is a

:34:56. > :35:01.different weight. Trying to make her way around the front. She has got

:35:02. > :35:11.the blue bowl to aim for. Drop inside that and you are close to

:35:12. > :35:36.shot. Just out of shot. She pushed that up there. There is Margaret

:35:37. > :35:58.following it down. It is not going to reach. A tall girl. Five foot

:35:59. > :36:23.eight. Now we are into a bit of wet weather OK. Looking for the shot

:36:24. > :36:28.bowl. Just missing. Margaret will be looking to take advantage of that.

:36:29. > :36:40.She is inside but she needs a little bit of luck. She didn't get it by

:36:41. > :36:45.hitting that bowl. I can tell you. She pushed that into the head. It

:36:46. > :36:56.looks like it could be a good measure now. It wasn't really a

:36:57. > :37:03.problem before but they are just going to check it. Just going back

:37:04. > :37:16.again. It is confirmed as one to Scotland. Now it is getting very wet

:37:17. > :37:44.out there. We weren't really expecting this.

:37:45. > :37:53.A bit of a heavy shower has arrived. There is a bit of scampering around

:37:54. > :37:59.for wet weather gear. Claire very brave out there in your shorts. I

:38:00. > :38:05.don't think I would like to be out there in shorts. I don't think we

:38:06. > :38:15.were expecting this. We thought there might be a bit of wind but not

:38:16. > :38:28.the heavy rain. This weather was predicted for tomorrow. But not for

:38:29. > :38:33.today. That is a good starter. Just taking refuge under the one

:38:34. > :38:39.umbrella. A bit like ours. The safest way. Keeping the wet weather

:38:40. > :38:59.off all the gear. That is the important bit. A lot of electronics

:39:00. > :39:05.up here. There is a very good line. Two good bowls. We call that a bit

:39:06. > :39:20.of a mud run when we play in wet conditions. You wouldn't know what

:39:21. > :39:45.that is. A mud run, indeed! It is bucketing it down. Well, it is all

:39:46. > :40:08.part of the game, these conditions. Didn't really want the outside edge

:40:09. > :40:15.of that. Standing up a little. It looked like it had a good track. I

:40:16. > :40:21.do not believe it. What is he like hiding out there? What happened to

:40:22. > :40:29.his wet weather gear? I am surprised he can fit in there. He is a wimp!

:40:30. > :40:36.We will give him a hard time afterwards. He has got a hold. He

:40:37. > :40:42.should be embracing the weather. There is David Gurley having a good

:40:43. > :40:53.laugh there. He will have a go at him later, no doubt about that. It

:40:54. > :41:03.is Scotland. Get used to it. Calvin would be used to this where he

:41:04. > :41:08.lives. It is rather warm up there. Queensland sounds a lot better at

:41:09. > :41:28.the moment. The Queensland Winter sounds a lot better. Just fell back.

:41:29. > :41:32.Hard for us to tell whose line. There we go. We are still getting

:41:33. > :41:46.happy, smiling faces. They have seen it all before. There is not much in

:41:47. > :41:54.that. Cutting the back of the blue bowl. Very difficult to get the

:41:55. > :42:04.contact absolutely solid with the wind conditions. I don't believe it!

:42:05. > :42:10.How did they both not go? She certainly moved it. That could make

:42:11. > :42:26.a difference. That was a good effort. That last bowl. Nice and dry

:42:27. > :42:46.underneath his hood. Dad is getting into the action. Go on, dad. Don't

:42:47. > :42:51.muscle in with the young ones. She needs a bowl out clean. It touched

:42:52. > :43:01.the jack but I think it has gone to the blue. No, it hasn't! It has held

:43:02. > :43:09.on. That was a horrible result. A ball out clean was worth four or

:43:10. > :43:18.five. So close but it didn't work. Well, I would suggest if England are

:43:19. > :43:22.allowing the shot here, they would go away from it just taking the

:43:23. > :43:30.single. That is exactly what they are doing. That was lucky from

:43:31. > :43:36.Margaret. She was looking for the punch out for five. Hit the blue

:43:37. > :43:56.ball but the England ball followed through as well. Instead of getting

:43:57. > :44:03.a four or a five she loses a single. The rain seems to have eased off a

:44:04. > :44:17.little bit. Sophie is not too worried. Kept her jacket on but

:44:18. > :44:28.didn't need any headgear. Waterproof lip gloss I think. A good starter as

:44:29. > :44:51.well. It doesn't get any better than that. She has played well so far in

:44:52. > :45:00.this match. It is a first bowl, it is OK. Better there than dropping

:45:01. > :45:07.short. The sun is coming out now! I wonder are we going to be in for a

:45:08. > :45:14.little bit of a heat wave for the next five minutes - before the next

:45:15. > :45:22.batch of rain arrives! Good stuff from Sophie. This one has got a bit

:45:23. > :45:29.of work to come down off that swinging hand. Comings -- coming

:45:30. > :45:35.through nicely. Very good, that brings her back bowl right into

:45:36. > :45:41.play. That needs to hold. Coming back into

:45:42. > :46:29.an OK home in behind. Ellen playing a bit more wide on

:46:30. > :46:37.this occasion. Into something - her own bowl. Well, they got three good

:46:38. > :46:43.bowls there around it. That is a good position for England. Scotland

:46:44. > :46:49.might be holding the shot, but they need another bowl in. And they could

:46:50. > :47:04.give it away here. Margaret's happy. That is a bowl in. That is good. A

:47:05. > :47:07.bit of sustainance. A bit of sugar required with a sweetie. She is a

:47:08. > :47:43.very experienced bowler. The bowls are getting dried off. It

:47:44. > :47:55.won't take much. It's warm out there.

:47:56. > :49:06.That is not bad. Pushes that bowl into a good position.

:49:07. > :49:53.in behind. A controlled weight again. Oh, just finding the gap.

:49:54. > :50:01.Oh! Margaret's thinking to herself, look what happened the last time

:50:02. > :50:06.when I tried to take a bowl out, lost a shot. Didn't want to lose

:50:07. > :50:08.this one. But turned the bowl over for a double. So it is a good

:50:09. > :51:19.result. The margin are potentially very

:51:20. > :51:27.close in this particular section. There is Claire

:51:28. > :51:28.close in this particular section. Scottish League. PNG in third place.

:51:29. > :51:37.Northern Ireland haven't registered a win. They have two losses and

:51:38. > :51:42.minus 14. But they're seven or eight shots up on PNG at the moment. So

:51:43. > :51:49.that would actually bring them in front of PNG if they win. But if

:51:50. > :51:54.England who have a shot difference of zero, well that could make a

:51:55. > :51:59.massive difference there, if they lose this match to Scotland. They're

:52:00. > :52:16.very much in the mix. Well both of them finding very good

:52:17. > :52:47.line. Pushed that a little bit too far.

:52:48. > :52:53.Lauren is a new name to us. Ellen is different of course. In terms of her

:52:54. > :53:00.profile in the sport, she has been around a long time. Very much a

:53:01. > :53:34.stalwart of the indoor and outdoor team.

:53:35. > :54:02.Ellen just getting the wrong edge of that bowl. The weight was good.

:54:03. > :54:10.The English bowl visible from the mat. They will looking to set that

:54:11. > :54:30.through. Playing a reaching shot. Oh it us

:54:31. > :54:38.just going underneath. It may well have done it. Not exactly route A!

:54:39. > :54:46.But she will take it. Margaret will take that every single time. She had

:54:47. > :55:10.some bad luck in this match as well, I have to say.

:55:11. > :55:19.We are going to have the leave the bowls, but you can keep watching it

:55:20. > :55:26.op the red button. Now time to find out what is happening in the news.

:55:27. > :55:29.We've got factory boys and butchers' apprentices and office clerks

:55:30. > :55:34.Don't stop moving! If you go back you'll die!

:55:35. > :55:53.Back to Glasgow after a quick update on Three.

:55:54. > :55:56.The deadly Ebola epidemic is a threat to the UK.

:55:57. > :55:57.That's the message from ministers here.

:55:58. > :55:59.Doctors have been told to be on alert.

:56:00. > :56:02.The outbreak in West Africa has killed hundreds.

:56:03. > :56:05.Usain Bolt says claims he rubbished the Glasgow Games are nonsense.

:56:06. > :56:08.The sprinter's hit back at newspaper reports.

:56:09. > :56:11.He tweeted "please don't create lies to make headlines."

:56:12. > :56:14.Twitter says the number of us using the site has gone up 24% in a year.

:56:15. > :56:20.It's despite it making losses of ?86 million from March til June.

:56:21. > :56:25.A new study says doing just that saves lives.

:56:26. > :56:28.But it also suggests eating more than that has no extra benefit.

:56:29. > :56:31.This is what you call a terrifying near miss.

:56:32. > :56:35.Two women in Indiana narrowly avoided being hit by a freight

:56:36. > :56:40.They did it by lying between the tracks.

:56:41. > :56:46.More later, right now let's get back to Lee

:56:47. > :57:08.This ashram of yours, it might be a cult.

:57:09. > :57:13.I leave the ashram, travel halfway across the world to find my father,

:57:14. > :57:21.Oh, well. As Vashrati says, gotta keep smiling!

:57:22. > :57:23.We don't tend to use the bathroom together here.

:57:24. > :57:25.All right, well, I'll catch you later.

:57:26. > :57:28.This ashram of yours, it might be a cult.

:57:29. > :57:32.I take it back, he's definitely Cuckoo's son.

:57:33. > :58:02.Welcome back. One of my demands is I wanted dogs on the sofa and look

:58:03. > :58:13.what we have gotment Tilly is very excitable. Lena is much quieter and

:58:14. > :58:19.er and we have Aggie. Some were quieter at the opening ceremony.

:58:20. > :58:23.Over my shoulder, outside at the SECC is the boxing. The men are in

:58:24. > :58:30.action today and John is there for us. I'm so jealous. I want a dog

:58:31. > :58:36.here. Can you bring one over I shall deliver you a dog. I like the one in

:58:37. > :58:43.the middle. Can I have that one? Tilly, she is out of control, that

:58:44. > :58:48.is what we are trying to say. I have got a spripger spaniel that is

:58:49. > :58:52.always out of control. I like dogs that don't adhere to the rules. You

:58:53. > :58:58.can hear the alarm here. That is to say there is about a minute to kick

:58:59. > :59:03.off. We have a tremendous afternoon of boxing with loads of competitors

:59:04. > :59:11.from the home nations. We have the four bantamweight quarter-finals and

:59:12. > :59:21.four home nations all remitted. First Michael Conlon from Northern

:59:22. > :59:27.Ireland. And Sean McGoldrick is fighting. And Johan is the only man

:59:28. > :59:34.from Glasgow in the Scottish team. And he is playing the representative

:59:35. > :59:39.from England. There it says - Glasgow 2014 in the middle of the

:59:40. > :59:45.ring. We are being counted down. Michael Conlon will be the first

:59:46. > :59:50.fighter we will see. He is rooming with Paddy Barnes, the other great

:59:51. > :00:12.Northern Ireland hope for a medal and they're egging each other on.

:00:13. > :00:14.And here we go. They are almost competing with each other. Northern

:00:15. > :00:23.Ireland were the top boxing nation in India four years ago. They want

:00:24. > :00:27.to repeat that. The competition with only Northern Ireland team is

:00:28. > :00:31.extraordinary. They are all staying in the same house and all want to go

:00:32. > :00:36.home with the same colour of medal. He is the first quarterfinal. It

:00:37. > :00:55.will be a busy Wednesday afternoon. It is medals all the way for the

:00:56. > :00:58.winners this afternoon. Session number 11 on day six of the

:00:59. > :01:11.Commonwealth Games boxing tournament. There are five judges at

:01:12. > :01:25.ringside, three of them selected at random. The referee is from Sri

:01:26. > :01:32.Lanka. There is the man who is rated number two in the entire world of

:01:33. > :01:39.amateur boxing at this bantamweight division. He is sharing a room with

:01:40. > :01:49.great friend and fellow Belfast native Paddy Barnes. He got a nasty

:01:50. > :01:58.cut on his scalp in the first round of his contest. The man from Uganda

:01:59. > :02:30.is just 20 years of age. Very much the favourite for gold in

:02:31. > :02:38.this division is Very much the favourite for gold in

:02:39. > :02:42.from Northern Ireland. Boxing in his second Commonwealth Games. He got

:02:43. > :02:50.bronze in London at the 62 kilograms division. He just eased past his

:02:51. > :02:59.opening two opponents without many worries. He is in against a shorter,

:03:00. > :03:02.chunky man who is very strong and will come forward. Michael Conlon

:03:03. > :03:10.will have to be at his counterpunching best. It is only

:03:11. > :03:22.about the sixth or seventh time we have seen two southpaws. On paper,

:03:23. > :03:33.Conlon should win this contest. His opponent, Nasir, is shorter. He has

:03:34. > :03:36.to get his timing right. It is a straightforward opponent in front of

:03:37. > :03:40.him. Southport can be difficult but he is at -- an aggressive southpaw

:03:41. > :03:49.who comes forward. The man from Uganda is warned to

:03:50. > :04:09.watch his head. He looks very confident at this

:04:10. > :04:13.higher weight and looks to have put on muscle. He is using that to good

:04:14. > :04:24.effect in the early stages. The referee will have a word with Nasir

:04:25. > :04:29.if he keeps leading with his head. Four years ago, Conlon was

:04:30. > :04:34.disappointed in the 52 kilograms division after winning his opening

:04:35. > :04:40.couple of contest. He got to the stage and was beaten by Jason

:04:41. > :04:44.Maloney. It was 10-10 but they gave it to the Australian who had thrown

:04:45. > :04:53.the greater volume of punches. Conlon was incandescent. He has got

:04:54. > :04:57.an Olympic medal and a European medal. He is a couple of rounds a

:04:58. > :05:02.way of getting a Commonwealth Games medal. He is going about at the

:05:03. > :05:08.right way. Using good skills. Nice single shots. He is using that beach

:05:09. > :05:14.advantage well. The pace is sitting Conlon down to the ground. His

:05:15. > :05:25.opponent 's attacks to protect -- predictable and he's not quick

:05:26. > :05:30.enough on his feet. He has got a good rate hook when he is boxing

:05:31. > :05:46.like that. Good round for Conlon. No real problems. Sensible boxing. The

:05:47. > :05:53.man in front of them is his dad. -- in front of him. You can see how he

:05:54. > :06:00.adjusted his feet the to bring him onto the hook. Good right hand, and

:06:01. > :06:14.again. Sensible, clever boxing. He got all the babe judges, no problem

:06:15. > :06:32.at all. 10-94 all of them. -- 10-9 for all of them.

:06:33. > :06:42.There is a delay because the rest of the Ugandan boxer has to be tucked

:06:43. > :06:50.into the trunks or shorts, call them what you will. The white waistband

:06:51. > :06:55.has to be visible because that is the line we be roughly can judge if

:06:56. > :07:10.a blow is illegal. So forth that is illegal and pretty painful. -- south

:07:11. > :07:16.of that. Conlon is looking strong and purposeful. The only thing that

:07:17. > :07:21.common has to watch out for is the clash of heads. He has to keep his

:07:22. > :07:26.distance and from the central -- from the centre of the rink. The

:07:27. > :07:36.Ugandan is too slow with his feet. He needs to quicken the pace. Conlon

:07:37. > :07:42.is boxing within himself. He has chosen the correct tactics. The

:07:43. > :07:53.referee told him to get on with it and he kept battling his opponent.

:07:54. > :08:02.There was no command to stop. Conlon is now boxing from the orthodox

:08:03. > :08:14.stance. That was a bit of a slap from the Ugandan. Conlon now coming

:08:15. > :08:28.forward. It sued -- it should suit the counterpunching Southport but he

:08:29. > :08:34.does not have the confidence. -- southpaw.

:08:35. > :08:45.Bid is one minute to go until the end of the second round. It is a bit

:08:46. > :08:50.of a scrappy contest. Not the contest Conlon would've wanted. He

:08:51. > :08:55.has boxed within himself. It is fairly easy tactics. He shows his

:08:56. > :09:07.skill and class by adjusting his feet. He needs to watch 's head on

:09:08. > :09:13.the inside. -- watch his head. The Ugandan is all over the place and he

:09:14. > :09:19.is finding Conlon really awkward. The referee is going to have to say

:09:20. > :09:33.something to Nasir if he keeps doing this. He keeps bringing his head

:09:34. > :09:41.into Conlon 's left side. The referee told the Ugandan not to hold

:09:42. > :09:46.and two watches head. -- and to watch his head.

:09:47. > :09:58.Good around from Conlon. He will be well pleased with the performance up

:09:59. > :10:07.to now. He is boxing within himself. He goes back at his opponent.

:10:08. > :10:14.Keeping his distance and works the body with some shots. Fairly simple.

:10:15. > :10:22.He won the round. Pretty good for Michael Conlon. You should add

:10:23. > :10:42.Commonwealth Court -- Commonwealth bronze to the Olympic bronze.

:10:43. > :10:50.I think they have told him to go out and see if he can stop this big

:10:51. > :10:55.fellow from Northern Ireland. And three, Michael Conlon, rated number

:10:56. > :11:00.two in the world in this bantamweight decision. Favourite for

:11:01. > :11:07.gold. He got himself caught there. That is exactly what Nasir has to

:11:08. > :11:14.do. He has to have courage in both clubs. Conlon demonstrating good

:11:15. > :11:19.timing and accuracy. He caught with the right hand but that he had

:11:20. > :11:24.missed the target he would have left himself open. We have seen this so

:11:25. > :11:32.many times with boxers here, if they are not accurate they fall into

:11:33. > :11:38.trouble. He is boxing at distance very well. Lovely footwork. He

:11:39. > :11:53.clipped his man with a good right hand. The Ugandan started the

:11:54. > :12:09.tournament with abiding defeated the man from Tanzania. -- with a bye.

:12:10. > :12:20.This is the midpoint in the round. It is very scrappy. That is not a

:12:21. > :12:36.bad right hand from the Ugandan. This year is trying to increase the

:12:37. > :12:44.pace. -- Nasir. The Ugandan has not went through the gears. He has got

:12:45. > :12:50.Conlon with the odd shot. I would be more worried about him catching

:12:51. > :12:53.Conlon with the head. He looked at the referee after the last clash to

:12:54. > :13:01.see if you would do something about it. The Ugandan is still there but

:13:02. > :13:08.he is being outbox. There is the head again. Good right hand from

:13:09. > :13:12.Conlon. Best punch in the contest. The crowd in the SECC appreciated

:13:13. > :13:19.that. Good punch from Conlon. He gets him and -- again with another

:13:20. > :13:24.right hand. Last 20 seconds. Conlon opening up. The Ugandan is tiring by

:13:25. > :13:35.the second. The opening up. The Ugandan is tiring by

:13:36. > :13:48.Conlon is catching him. Ten seconds till the end. The is the bill.

:13:49. > :13:55.Michael Common has that one. -- Michael Conlon has won that one. He

:13:56. > :13:57.has demonstrated to the judges that he can go from the front foot.

:13:58. > :14:04.has demonstrated to the judges that he can He mixed it up. He got caught

:14:05. > :14:10.in that sequence. He went forward and post his man back in the last 40

:14:11. > :14:15.seconds. He has shown people that he can go on the front foot. The

:14:16. > :14:25.tactics were correct. He boxed from distance judging the entire boat.

:14:26. > :14:31.Conlon mixed it up nicely, being from orthodox to southpaw. The

:14:32. > :14:34.winner by unanimous decision and through to the semifinal, in the red

:14:35. > :14:42.corner from Northern Ireland, Michael Conlon. Guaranteed

:14:43. > :14:49.Commonwealth columns to go with Olympic silver. He is the fourth

:14:50. > :15:01.boxer from Northern Ireland to go through to the medals. It is a very

:15:02. > :15:05.good, competent performance by this fellow. He remains the man to beat

:15:06. > :15:27.in this very, very competitive decision. -- division.

:15:28. > :15:30.Confirmation, all of the judges gave it to Conlan. He is with John.

:15:31. > :15:36.Michael, that looked straightforward.

:15:37. > :15:40.Yes, it wasn't by far anywhere near a good performance for me.

:15:41. > :15:44.When you have won the first two rounds so convincingly, how

:15:45. > :15:47.difficult is it to keep up to consideration for the third?

:15:48. > :15:50.I was kind of getting a little bit board for the last round. I had to

:15:51. > :15:59.be careful because he is very dangerous with his head. I want to

:16:00. > :16:02.excel in this competition, so I made it a bit boring, but I did what I

:16:03. > :16:08.had to to win. You said that you are rooming with

:16:09. > :16:13.Paddy. Before you leave to go to work, effectively, do you say to

:16:14. > :16:20.each other, make sure you come back not having lost?

:16:21. > :16:29.Today on my way to the venue I saw Paddy with Craig, the announcer, so

:16:30. > :16:34.I was waiting on it coming on. They must not have had Barbie girls on

:16:35. > :16:37.the playlist. And from Northern Ireland to Wales

:16:38. > :16:42.now. The judges for this one from

:16:43. > :16:46.Morocco, Colombia, Croatia, Argentina and Belarus, and it is

:16:47. > :16:51.Wales against the Republic of South Africa. This promises to be a very

:16:52. > :17:02.interesting contest, because this fellow is not a bad operator, at

:17:03. > :17:10.all. Ayabonga Sonjica from East London. And this, the man who

:17:11. > :17:19.eventually got the gold medal in this division in Delhi four years

:17:20. > :17:24.ago. Sean McGoldrick is the shorter of

:17:25. > :17:28.the two. He was defeated in the final four years ago, but his

:17:29. > :17:34.opponent, Manju Wanniarachchi from Sri Lanka, failed a drugs test and

:17:35. > :17:48.was stripped of the middle which eventually found its way to Newport

:17:49. > :18:00.in Wales. A big contrast in styles, the man in the red is very tall.

:18:01. > :18:03.Both of them got bys, McGoldrick put in a pretty good performance to beat

:18:04. > :18:08.Jackson Woods from Australia. I am on the sun-seeker came through

:18:09. > :18:12.against the man who was -- Ayabonga Sonjica came through the man who was

:18:13. > :18:21.stripped of the gold medal four years ago, Manju Wanniarachchi.

:18:22. > :18:24.Sonjica in red for South Africa and the defending champion, Sean

:18:25. > :18:30.McGoldrick, in blue. Tactics are simple for McGoldrick,

:18:31. > :18:34.stay outside of that long reach from Sonjica. That is when he has to get

:18:35. > :18:38.him under pressure, on the ropes. Give this fellow the time and space,

:18:39. > :18:44.he is a good boxer, but he needs a written, the fellow in red. You have

:18:45. > :18:49.to deny him that. -- but he needs the room.

:18:50. > :18:52.This is good stuff by McGoldrick, a lot of pressure on his shoulders

:18:53. > :18:56.given what happened to Freddie Evans, who was a no-show, his

:18:57. > :18:59.accreditation was refused and the upset of the Games so far, the

:19:00. > :19:07.defeat of the world number one Andrew Selby by the little

:19:08. > :19:12.Glaswegian Reece McFadden. That head movement was lovely from

:19:13. > :19:15.McGoldrick, he has to punch off of that, moving the head left and right

:19:16. > :19:20.and coming out of the role with a left hook. He's dropping that

:19:21. > :19:25.right-hander. He is opening up, he just has to get in position to land

:19:26. > :19:31.that punch. I thought McGoldrick's ring work was

:19:32. > :19:33.terrific for that little 15 seconds, kept his man guessing in the neutral

:19:34. > :19:39.corner. Huge advantage of height and reach,

:19:40. > :19:44.the 23 old. Gold medal list earlier this year in the African Cup of

:19:45. > :19:51.Nations. -- gold medallist. He boxed in the Olympics a couple of

:19:52. > :19:55.years ago. Lots of experience there. Well into the last minute of this

:19:56. > :19:58.opening round, McGoldrick has done really well, his defence has been

:19:59. > :20:02.good. Around the kidney area with the

:20:03. > :20:06.left-hander from the Welshman. Sonjica trying to dig into the body

:20:07. > :20:11.butter McGoldrick with stalking him all the way and is making it very

:20:12. > :20:13.difficult. A little slip by Sonjica, McGoldrick catches him on the temple

:20:14. > :20:25.with all right. -- with a right. I have to say, Ritchie, this is a

:20:26. > :20:29.much better performance by McGoldrick than the one we saw

:20:30. > :20:33.against Jackson Woods. He has the tactics right, he just

:20:34. > :20:41.has to find the quality shots on the inside. He has to think with the jab

:20:42. > :20:42.and get that right-hander to his large opponent, a large target area

:20:43. > :21:04.to hit. That good little right came in and

:21:05. > :21:09.that certainly would have scored. Sonjica keeps off the ropes, he

:21:10. > :21:14.knows that is a bad position to be in. He does Taz two of the judges'

:21:15. > :21:19.scores. He has to find the quality on the inside here. He has the

:21:20. > :21:27.opportunity but he has to land with good, solid punches.

:21:28. > :21:31.2-1 favourite, this man. McGoldrick is having to step up the pace and

:21:32. > :21:47.accuracy in the second round. It is still there for him, though.

:21:48. > :21:54.We saw his club coach just about an hour ago, pretty confident that

:21:55. > :21:57.McGoldrick could do it, but he has to find some more scoring shots

:21:58. > :22:03.against this fellow, who is making life awkward for him.

:22:04. > :22:11.Better by McGoldrick, straight in, left then right, he needs more of

:22:12. > :22:15.those. Somehow he has to find his way past the long right-hander of

:22:16. > :22:19.his South African opponent. Yes, jinking little movements from

:22:20. > :22:24.left to the Right then these little double jobs, sometimes a series of

:22:25. > :22:29.jabs to close down the, then he has to go to work downstairs.

:22:30. > :22:34.That was a slip, will spotted by the referee. Sonjica was holding

:22:35. > :22:39.McGoldrick on the referee's blindside.

:22:40. > :22:41.Good food work from this tall, rangy fellow. How he squeezes

:22:42. > :22:48.Good food work from this tall, rangy into this big spindly frame I have

:22:49. > :22:53.no idea. Good food work yet again. He moves

:22:54. > :23:00.away to his right and clips McGoldrick around the ear.

:23:01. > :23:04.That was a shot! Nothing wrong with that.

:23:05. > :23:10.That was right hand, referee. I am sure that punch connected there.

:23:11. > :23:13.I am pretty sure myself. That will give McGoldrick a lot of confidence

:23:14. > :23:19.now. He has to do it again, and again.

:23:20. > :23:20.A good right into the chest by McGoldrick, avoiding the southpaw

:23:21. > :23:30.right of Sonjica. Sonjica is looking a bit on the wary

:23:31. > :23:36.side. He knows if he stands still and McGoldrick gets into him, the

:23:37. > :23:39.Welshman can hurt him. Last minute of the second, better

:23:40. > :23:44.round by McGoldrick, he has landed the cleaner shots of this one.

:23:45. > :23:49.He is picking his punches now. He just has to get up a little bit. He

:23:50. > :23:54.waits occasionally too long. When he is waiting he has to move

:23:55. > :24:00.his head, draw the leader of the opponent, make him miss and maybe

:24:01. > :24:04.come back with a counter. Thinking about that classic left

:24:05. > :24:10.hook, which is the best counter to a southpaw. Sonjica is very wary,

:24:11. > :24:14.McGoldrick again to the body. Long arms making it difficult. Good shot

:24:15. > :24:19.by McGoldrick, nice straight left hand. He took a left in return as he

:24:20. > :24:22.moved away from danger. We said the accuracy has to be

:24:23. > :24:26.better from McGoldrick. He has definitely done that this

:24:27. > :24:32.round. He is hitting the target more often, picking his shots. Better

:24:33. > :24:41.work from McGoldrick. It is going to be tricky -- pretty

:24:42. > :24:46.even going into the last. Much better work by him, he upped the

:24:47. > :24:53.pace. Sonjica under a little bit of pressure for the first time in that

:24:54. > :24:57.second round. A better round for McGoldrick, he

:24:58. > :25:04.picked his shots better. A couple of shots went in there that scored, the

:25:05. > :25:11.right, super shot for McGoldrick. Just steadied himself.

:25:12. > :25:15.Good jab. Right-hander. Just gets clipped coming out, so he has to

:25:16. > :25:17.keep the guard up when he is coming out.

:25:18. > :25:21.Let's look at the scores. I am amazed at that, I thought that

:25:22. > :25:29.was a much better round for McGoldrick, I don't agree with that

:25:30. > :25:44.at all. It is going to be a difficult task

:25:45. > :25:48.for him. Sean McGoldrick has to produce the

:25:49. > :25:52.three minutes of his oxen life so far if he is to retain the medal

:25:53. > :25:55.that he won in controversial circumstances four years ago. He got

:25:56. > :26:00.the silver in this division, his opponent failed a drugs test and was

:26:01. > :26:04.stripped of the gold medal. McGoldrick wants to attain it under

:26:05. > :26:07.his own steam, so to speak, but he really has to put in a last round of

:26:08. > :26:12.immense quality and high scoring and he has to get close to do that. This

:26:13. > :26:16.fellow is up on his toes. He must now know that, believe it or not, he

:26:17. > :26:20.is in the lead, and that will give them a lot of confidence. That is a

:26:21. > :26:23.very different Sonjica in this round can he looks more confident. He

:26:24. > :26:28.looks like a man who thinks he's going to win this.

:26:29. > :26:32.He is up on his toes, probably realises he has to stay in the

:26:33. > :26:36.centre of the ring. Rarely does he go back to the ropes, but that is

:26:37. > :26:39.where McGoldrick has to force him. He has to be quicker with the

:26:40. > :26:43.attacks and to sustain the pressure more. He has to get on his front

:26:44. > :26:47.foot, move the head, target the body, switch the attack. Plenty of

:26:48. > :26:51.punches and he has to work at a higher work rate.

:26:52. > :26:56.He has been at one place all the way through, which has been his main

:26:57. > :26:57.failing. He is getting picked off. Sonjica has read most of his side to

:26:58. > :27:09.side movements pretty well. Good food work again by this tall,

:27:10. > :27:12.spindly, spidery South African. This is where he has to go to work

:27:13. > :27:18.now. That is better. Keep them there.

:27:19. > :27:22.He has cut off his exit route, smooth left or right, which ever way

:27:23. > :27:24.he goes, he has let him off the ropes and he has to keep them in

:27:25. > :27:35.that position. Good punching by Sonjica. And

:27:36. > :27:40.again, southpaw right followed by the left cross. He has been catching

:27:41. > :27:44.McGoldrick. Work the body now, Sean, you have to

:27:45. > :27:47.do work the body when you get them into a corner.

:27:48. > :27:53.It has slipped away from the Welshman. Less than a minute to go,

:27:54. > :27:56.Sonjica looking very confident. Sean McGoldrick has been perhaps a little

:27:57. > :28:00.too tentative. He did not want to take the chance of coming in and

:28:01. > :28:04.getting caught, but he has to take that chance.

:28:05. > :28:16.He has boxed very well. Just waiting to long, McGoldrick. He

:28:17. > :28:20.has to move ahead and go downstairs. Sonjica in a bit of trouble and has

:28:21. > :28:24.to hang on, but I think it is all a bit too late.

:28:25. > :28:30.The referee brings them together for the last time. He has signified ten

:28:31. > :28:34.seconds to go. Then one comes steaming forwards but

:28:35. > :28:39.it comes to late for him. -- McGoldrick comes forwards.

:28:40. > :28:44.Sonjica staying out of trouble and he is pretty confident he has got

:28:45. > :28:50.it. Big hugs from Colin Jones and a slap

:28:51. > :28:54.on the back for Sean McGoldrick. A difficult man to box against,

:28:55. > :28:59.tall, rangy, good on his feet, good movement, it was a hard jump for

:29:00. > :29:03.Sean McGoldrick to close that gap down. He did occasionally and got

:29:04. > :29:07.through with some good shots. I would just have liked to have seen

:29:08. > :29:16.him work that body more of the taller man. Good right-hander from

:29:17. > :29:18.McGoldrick. That little smile, I don't think he has done enough,

:29:19. > :29:23.though. I would agree with you, Richard.

:29:24. > :29:34.Is the defending Commonwealth champion in this very good 56

:29:35. > :29:39.kilograms division going out? We have a split decision. In favour

:29:40. > :29:47.of the winner, now through to the semifinal, in the blue corner...

:29:48. > :29:51.Scottish! My word, he robbed of that last

:29:52. > :29:56.round. The judges gave it to him and

:29:57. > :30:00.overall there were two micro judges scoring 29, 28 in McGoldrick's

:30:01. > :30:07.favour. And all of a sudden Sean McGoldrick

:30:08. > :30:12.has got a lifeline. Well, that is interesting. He thought he won the

:30:13. > :30:19.first, we were not sure if he won the third, the judges saw it

:30:20. > :30:23.completely differently. My, oh my. Sonjica cannot believe it, he is

:30:24. > :30:28.devastated and there is a mixed with both relief and a delight on the

:30:29. > :30:41.face of Sean McGoldrick. We will be talking to John any

:30:42. > :30:51.second now. In. He had good attributes and use them well. We had

:30:52. > :30:54.a game plan and I stop to it. I felt comfortable and in control. This

:30:55. > :31:00.will be a tough semifinal against Michael. We look forward to senior

:31:01. > :31:07.into my days time. We have got an Anglo Scottish competition about to

:31:08. > :31:10.take place. The performance director for sport Scotland has been

:31:11. > :31:17.masterminding a plan to get Scotland as many medals as possible. It is

:31:18. > :31:23.brilliant for us. We are 137. We said we would go for the best ever.

:31:24. > :31:29.That was more than 34. What is astonishing is we have got the best

:31:30. > :31:34.ever number of goals. We have got 15. Very strong in the boxing and

:31:35. > :31:39.Joe Ham is about to come. We have only got three boxers through to the

:31:40. > :31:44.medal fights. I think it is more than ten medals they are. He is the

:31:45. > :31:49.only Glaswegian in the Scottish boxing team. They are all here to

:31:50. > :31:53.support him. We were at the hockey this morning which was

:31:54. > :31:55.disappointing. This man is a great fighter. He will be there to the

:31:56. > :32:08.end. Thank you for talking to us. fighter. He will be there to the

:32:09. > :32:09.was about to say that he is here with his familiar blue Mohican but

:32:10. > :32:30.he has changed his hair colour. For some reason the blue rinse has

:32:31. > :33:13.disappeared. Letters hope he has not lost his lucky mask that. -- mascot.

:33:14. > :33:23.By my reckoning this is the fifth Scotland England contest here in

:33:24. > :33:42.Glasgow 2014. It is free-mac-1 to England. -- 3-1 to England. The

:33:43. > :33:53.opponent in blue from Leeds is Qais Ashfaq. You know him from the Great

:33:54. > :33:58.Britain squad. He is a southpaw. I think that some of the Scottish lads

:33:59. > :34:02.have got it wrong. Ross Henderson and Keegan is that when they have

:34:03. > :34:05.boxed against the English boxers. They have been aggressive because of

:34:06. > :34:14.the crowd but it has to be controlled. Joe Ham is waiting and

:34:15. > :34:20.being more cautious. It is the right thing to do. You cannot walk on two

:34:21. > :34:28.shots you have to control your aggression. They met in the final of

:34:29. > :34:32.the tournament in Finland last year. Qais Ashfaq one that would retain

:34:33. > :34:37.the title that he had won in the previous couple of years. Midway

:34:38. > :34:48.through the first round and nothing much between them. Good stuff

:34:49. > :34:52.southpaw jab by Qais Ashfaq. Good footwork by the Englishman as well.

:34:53. > :35:00.They left to the body did not connect. Joe Ham looking comfortable

:35:01. > :35:05.and not trying to force it. He has to be very weary of the strong,

:35:06. > :35:12.counterpunching man waving blue from England. That was a clash of heads.

:35:13. > :35:18.Qais Ashfaq grimaced a little bit. The referee let them work it out.

:35:19. > :35:26.The pace at the moment is sitting Qais Ashfaq. He prefers a slower

:35:27. > :35:35.pace. That is so he can see the attacks coming. Good right hand by

:35:36. > :35:42.Joe Ham. Everything he does is cheered here in Glasgow. 30 seconds

:35:43. > :35:52.to the end of the first round. Not much between them. Qais Ashfaq is

:35:53. > :36:00.landing the clean shots. That was a bit of a wobble. I do not know if

:36:01. > :36:07.that was a slip or a punch. What a busy round this has been. Ten

:36:08. > :36:14.seconds to go. He is looking to land his right hand.

:36:15. > :36:40.There is the clash of heads. You have to watch that. That was a

:36:41. > :36:58.stumble. It was not a punch. Very close one to score. The judges are

:36:59. > :37:10.split. One judge has given it to the Joe Ham, two Gavin acted Qais

:37:11. > :37:23.Ashfaq. It was very close. -- two judges have given it to Qais Ashfaq.

:37:24. > :37:29.There are five judges at ringside but three of them are chosen

:37:30. > :37:31.randomly. The three of them who have the scorecards accepted do not know

:37:32. > :37:38.that the scorecards have been accepted.

:37:39. > :37:49.Joe Ham might well now that he is narrowly behind and will have to up

:37:50. > :37:54.the tempo. His opponent has boxed very well with the southpaw style.

:37:55. > :38:05.Joe Ham has not come to terms with it. Qais Ashfaq is a little bit

:38:06. > :38:11.quicker than Joe Ham. Joe Ham is looking for the right hand all of

:38:12. > :38:20.the time. He is too far away and is fallen short. Qais Ashfaq has got

:38:21. > :38:30.fast hands. Joe Ham is in great condition. That was another left

:38:31. > :38:32.from Qais Ashfaq. This is a better phone. He is wanting to

:38:33. > :38:35.from Qais Ashfaq. This is a better phone. He is wanting win the second

:38:36. > :38:43.round. Joe Ham is under pressure. The speed of Qais Ashfaq is the

:38:44. > :38:49.difference. Speed and accuracy. It is good boxing from the Englishman.

:38:50. > :38:56.Joe Ham has to come forward. He may walk onto more left from Qais

:38:57. > :39:04.Ashfaq. He has looked very comfortable and compose. Southpaw

:39:05. > :39:08.right and a very swift West Cross. He is catching Joe Ham almost at

:39:09. > :39:20.will. This is not a good run for the Scotsman. He is not throwing punches

:39:21. > :39:28.and combinations. He is allowing Qais Ashfaq to settle into a rhythm.

:39:29. > :39:29.The referee having a quick word with Joe Ham.

:39:30. > :39:35.The referee having a quick word Referees are now talking to boxing

:39:36. > :39:43.-- to boxers at this level. The only thing they used to say was to tell

:39:44. > :39:51.them to break. 30 seconds to go until the end of the second round. I

:39:52. > :39:55.will be very surprised until the end of the second round. I

:39:56. > :39:57.will be very if all three judges do not give it to Qais Ashfaq.

:39:58. > :39:59.will be very if all three judges do not give it to That was a punch

:40:00. > :40:04.round the back of the head by Joe Ham. Qais Ashfaq coming right back

:40:05. > :40:12.at him and catches him with eight good combination. They have put on a

:40:13. > :40:19.good show but the Englishman has finished off in style. He got the

:40:20. > :40:23.tactics right. The timing and the accuracy from Qais Ashfaq was

:40:24. > :40:30.superb. The speed is the key element. He was just caught with

:40:31. > :40:34.right over the top, that was the best punch by Joe Ham. Lovely right

:40:35. > :40:36.jab by Qais Ashfaq. best punch by Joe Ham. Lovely right

:40:37. > :40:51.jab by Kept his distance. The speed was fantastic. Joe Ham needs

:40:52. > :41:06.something very special in this round. I think they are telling him

:41:07. > :41:06.he needs more lateral movement as he has been becoming straightforward in

:41:07. > :41:25.straight lines. Qais Ashfaq aiming to become the

:41:26. > :41:29.fourth English winner in this, the fifth England versus Scotland

:41:30. > :41:33.contest in the boxing here in Glasgow. What a great tournament it

:41:34. > :41:36.has been apart from the odd controversy surrounding the lack of

:41:37. > :41:42.headgear and the cuts that has produced. The scoring has been very

:41:43. > :41:54.decent with no major decisions that have raised eyebrows, never mind

:41:55. > :42:12.split eyebrows. Qais Ashfaq has been too quick for Joe Ham. Especially in

:42:13. > :42:18.the second round. He is holding. Good work yet again by Qais Ashfaq.

:42:19. > :42:23.The problems for Joe Ham is his feet, they are too slow. He needs to

:42:24. > :42:28.get into range faster and full shots. He is waiting too long and

:42:29. > :42:35.that is suiting the style of Qais Ashfaq. If you are slow and what in

:42:36. > :42:47.on straight lines you will walk into shots. Joe Ham does not have many

:42:48. > :42:54.ideas to counter him. Listen to the support the crowd are giving him.

:42:55. > :43:02.Qais Ashfaq from the start of the second round has boxed quite

:43:03. > :43:06.splendidly. The speed and the movement has been key for Qais

:43:07. > :43:14.Ashfaq. He is keeping his distance. We have just seen the most decent

:43:15. > :43:25.left hook from Joe Ham. He is very square when he comes forward. Great

:43:26. > :43:33.stuff by Qais Ashfaq. Doubling up hooks to the body and then to the

:43:34. > :43:38.head. And another sudden looking left. Joe Ham takes a good shot but

:43:39. > :43:44.he has taken too many for his liking, or for his corners liking.

:43:45. > :43:50.He is still coming forward. He will give it everything for this last

:43:51. > :43:57.half minute. He has got plenty of heart and plenty of bottle. He keeps

:43:58. > :44:03.making mistakes and walking on shots. Qais Ashfaq has been in

:44:04. > :44:09.confident form since the start of the second round. Lovely little foot

:44:10. > :44:14.-- little hook and he tells joke hand to come on. He has done it.

:44:15. > :44:26.Great performance from the English bantamweight. One of the best

:44:27. > :44:32.performances of his career. If you are being honest, they fell in the

:44:33. > :44:36.blue vest had all the way. He had these speed, skill, timing and

:44:37. > :44:43.accuracy. He lowered Joe Ham onto the shots. His feet were too slow

:44:44. > :44:49.throughout this contest. the shots. His feet were too slow

:44:50. > :45:04.coming forward to school and in what onto punches. This fellow has

:45:05. > :45:13.clearly won it. The winner, by unanimous decision

:45:14. > :45:19.come in the blue corner... Qais Ashfaq gets the nod. All three

:45:20. > :45:25.judges have given it to him, and Qais Ashfaq has guaranteed at the

:45:26. > :45:30.very least a bronze medal for England in one of the best divisions

:45:31. > :45:35.in the whole tournament here. Joe Ham gave it his all in front of his

:45:36. > :45:39.home crowd. It wasn't to be. For the second time in just over a year he

:45:40. > :45:41.has lost to this man and the winner and through to the semis is the man

:45:42. > :45:50.from England, Qais Ashfaq. He is very happy about that, he

:45:51. > :45:54.really boxed supremely well, particularly from the start of the

:45:55. > :45:56.second round on, and the southpaw style of his had a little bit too

:45:57. > :46:10.much for Joe Ham. He is with John. Well done, guys, that was a terrific

:46:11. > :46:16.contest. Never mind the punching, your footwork was outstanding.

:46:17. > :46:20.He seemed to be a bit slow on his feet, so my footwork did the job.

:46:21. > :46:26.Joe, hard lines, it was a tough old white, wasn't it?

:46:27. > :46:29.It is hard to press him down, his footwork is one of the best in

:46:30. > :46:30.Britain, so he is hard to press down.

:46:31. > :46:33.footwork is one of the best in Britain, so he is He knew that was

:46:34. > :46:37.the way. If he's good and traded it would be a different fight, but he

:46:38. > :46:41.just did what he had to do. Fair play.

:46:42. > :46:44.I have to ask you, what happened to the blue hair? I couldn't be

:46:45. > :46:49.bothered doing it this morning, I was too focused on the fight.

:46:50. > :46:55.Last word, because the next boat is coming into the Bing, you have a

:46:56. > :46:59.medal, congratulations. How do you view the next three days crash at I

:47:00. > :47:02.will get rested. But all credit to go, he is a very

:47:03. > :47:07.good kid. It was a great contest, thank you,

:47:08. > :47:11.guys, well done. A very good win indeed for Qais

:47:12. > :47:15.Ashfaq against the Scottish champion, Joe Ham. We will be back

:47:16. > :47:19.for live boxing at the SECC later in the programme including the

:47:20. > :47:23.heavyweight bout with Warren based from England, as well. Just a

:47:24. > :47:26.reminder that the BBC Red Button is the thing you have to fit to

:47:27. > :47:30.continue watching boxing, and you can catch up with all the sports in

:47:31. > :47:33.what is already a very busy Glasgow 2014 by heading to the website. All

:47:34. > :47:40.of the sports that are happening life are on the website at the

:47:41. > :47:44.moment. Not only can you watch the action live, you can also use the

:47:45. > :47:46.scroll bar and the timeline to see all the highlights, as well. There

:47:47. > :47:58.it is, bbc.co.uk/glasgow2014. We will be going back to live boxing

:47:59. > :48:03.in the men's heavyweight division shortly, but the biggest name in the

:48:04. > :48:06.ring at this Commonwealth Games is undoubtedly Nicola Adams. She made

:48:07. > :48:12.history in London 2912 and this week in Glasgow she hopes to repeat that

:48:13. > :48:16.at the Commonwealth Games. -- London 2012.

:48:17. > :48:21.Nicola Adams has come out blazing. Amazing boxing by Adams.

:48:22. > :48:25.Just three minutes boxing stand between her and Olympic immortality.

:48:26. > :48:30.I have a massive target on my back now, I think. I step in the ring

:48:31. > :48:34.that person wants a piece of what I have got. They want to feel what it

:48:35. > :48:37.is like to be Nicola Adams, what it is like to have what he has got.

:48:38. > :48:48.Nicola Adams has just made history! Every time I get in that ring, I

:48:49. > :48:53.have to bring my a game. Every opponent, no matter whether they are

:48:54. > :48:58.good, bad, whether they are not as experienced as me, when they come up

:48:59. > :49:04.against in the eye giving me 100%. They are probably boxing better than

:49:05. > :49:07.they ever have done in their lives. Before women's boxing was in the

:49:08. > :49:11.Olympic Games, people did not know what it was good to be like, what to

:49:12. > :49:16.expect, the standard, the technique. But we proved in there that we are

:49:17. > :49:21.just as good as the men, just as technical, we have a lot of skill.

:49:22. > :49:25.I think that is why so many people fell in love with women's boxing

:49:26. > :49:35.after the Games. As a person, I am still the same

:49:36. > :49:39.person, I am still Nicola Adams that used to live in Leeds, I walk my dog

:49:40. > :49:45.on the same field I have always walk my dog on. I don't think that is

:49:46. > :49:50.ever going to change. My friends and family have kept me grounded and it

:49:51. > :49:53.is just going to be me. It is the first time women's boxing

:49:54. > :49:57.is going to be in the Commonwealth Games. It is another chance to

:49:58. > :50:04.hopefully make history again. I want to be bigger, better, I want

:50:05. > :50:09.to be stronger, faster. Maybe some more shovels in there, as well, for

:50:10. > :50:15.the crowd. I want my skills to be unbelievable by the time I get to

:50:16. > :50:17.the Commonwealth Games. -- may be some more shuffles. It will be

:50:18. > :50:22.really exciting, I have seen the venue for the finals and it will be

:50:23. > :50:28.absolutely epic. It is a chance to make history again, becoming the

:50:29. > :50:33.first ever Commonwealth Games gold medallist and then reopen as well.

:50:34. > :50:36.We have never had a double limbic champion in boxing, male or female,

:50:37. > :50:45.and I would love to add that to my bow. -- double Olympic champion.

:50:46. > :50:49.That smile just lit up London 2012. In Glasgow it is going to be

:50:50. > :50:54.lighting up the boxing arena over on the south side of the river. That is

:50:55. > :50:57.the picture in Glasgow live now. We have had wonderful weather last week

:50:58. > :51:02.and it has changed ever so slightly, that is looking down to the centre

:51:03. > :51:10.of Glasgow. That is Argyle Street in Glasgow, I believe. Looking not so

:51:11. > :51:16.nice, but busy, busy, busy. That is over the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and

:51:17. > :51:19.Museum. That is the brown, red sandstone building. That is where

:51:20. > :51:27.the Kelvingrove Lawn Bowls Centre happening. Let's talk about boxing,

:51:28. > :51:31.Joe Ham was defeated by England boss Michael Qais Ashfaq. He will meet

:51:32. > :51:50.the leader of the contest currently between Tafari Ebanks of the Cayman

:51:51. > :52:04.Islands and Benson Njangiru of tenure. -- Kenya.

:52:05. > :52:21.Just a little did more aggressive, I think, from Njangiru.

:52:22. > :52:28.Second round, then, of this final men's bantamweight quarterfinal, the

:52:29. > :52:35.56 kilograms division. The man coming out of the blue corner, the

:52:36. > :52:38.29-year-old from Kenya, Benson Njangiru, has been given the nod by

:52:39. > :52:42.all three judges, against his opponent who is ten years younger,

:52:43. > :52:47.from the Cayman Islands, Tafari Ebanks.

:52:48. > :52:56.Njangiru, we saw him a couple of years ago at the Olympic Games in

:52:57. > :53:03.London. He lost in the 52 kilograms division to the boxer from

:53:04. > :53:07.Uzbekistan. He has moved up to 56 and he is a lot shorter than his

:53:08. > :53:10.teenage opponent from the Cayman Islands, but there is more

:53:11. > :53:13.aggressive. He covers up very well, he has a great defence.

:53:14. > :53:17.Yes, it closes that gap very well then comes out of that guard and

:53:18. > :53:23.counterattacks now and again. Just sneaks in the odd shot.

:53:24. > :53:27.Those are good shots. Ebanks has to use his left more on

:53:28. > :53:30.the inside. He has a good left hook, the man in red. As he comes off the

:53:31. > :53:34.commendation he should finish on that.

:53:35. > :53:38.Njangiru starts to Open up a little bit more. I think young Ebanks will

:53:39. > :53:43.be in a lot of trouble now. There was a lovely uppercut straight

:53:44. > :53:46.through from Njangiru. He has put together in the opening minute more

:53:47. > :53:52.scoring shots than he did in the entire first round which he won on

:53:53. > :53:57.all three judges' cards. He is feeling the pace of this now,

:53:58. > :54:05.Njangiru, and he is feeling the hurt of those body shots. Njangiru

:54:06. > :54:10.looking very, very comfortable. He is a difficult man to actually

:54:11. > :54:14.get to, Njangiru. He keeps his guard high, the elbows tucked in. The --

:54:15. > :54:19.it is a difficult guard to penetrate.

:54:20. > :54:23.Well, he is romping this round. Tafari Ebanks has hardly laid his

:54:24. > :54:30.glove on him. Another good stabbing right from the Kenyan.

:54:31. > :54:37.That first shot he did throw was very tentative. Straight in those

:54:38. > :54:49.Njangiru. The young man is getting a bit of Russia locking here. -- a bit

:54:50. > :54:53.of a shellacking here. He waits for his opportunity, then

:54:54. > :55:00.he springs the attack, beats his opponents to the punch.

:55:01. > :55:04.He is pretty game, Tafari Ebanks comedy is coming forward and taking

:55:05. > :55:10.a lot of hard shots. He has to watch that left if it goes walkabout he

:55:11. > :55:13.could get himself caught round the corner with a right. Njangiru

:55:14. > :55:17.covering up, he has gone right into his shell and there is that right

:55:18. > :55:21.hand at the end. He took three or four shots on the gloves and

:55:22. > :55:25.forearms and responded brilliantly. The opening part of that round was

:55:26. > :55:31.terrific. Njangiru is looking good, what a good left hand to finish. He

:55:32. > :55:35.upped the pace considerably, he moved it from first to about third

:55:36. > :55:39.gear and there are still a couple more to come.

:55:40. > :55:44.I think so, he looks very well, this fellow. Difficult to get to with

:55:45. > :55:47.that high guard, then he just springs the attack. That was an

:55:48. > :55:53.example, he counterattacks and beats his opponent to the punch. Lovely

:55:54. > :56:00.shot, and again, and again. All from that peekaboo style. He walks onto a

:56:01. > :56:09.right uppercut there and left hand at the end of the round.

:56:10. > :56:17.Once again, 10-9 on all three judges' scoring cards.

:56:18. > :56:20.Boxed in the World Championships last year,

:56:21. > :56:25.Boxed in the World Championships last as did Njangiru, Tafari Ebanks.

:56:26. > :56:31.Loss to Brian Gonzales of Mexico in his opening contest.

:56:32. > :56:37.I am not altogether sure what Tafari Ebanks can do to win this contest,

:56:38. > :56:41.other than stop his man. The way Benson Njangiru has been defending,

:56:42. > :56:47.I think that will be tough for the teenager from the Cayman Islands in

:56:48. > :56:52.red. Njangiru from Kenya in blue, he has taken both rounds so far.

:56:53. > :56:56.Tentative start, but I am sure he will pick it up. He may well be

:56:57. > :56:59.saving himself for the medal stages and there is less than three minutes

:57:00. > :57:03.away from reaching those medal stages for his deck and success of

:57:04. > :57:08.Commonwealth Games. He got to the final in Delhi in the 52 kilograms

:57:09. > :57:11.division four years ago, had an injury and could not compete so had

:57:12. > :57:18.to settle for a silver. He does not want it here, though.

:57:19. > :57:24.Good fast hands from Tafari Ebanks, but most of them absorbed. The right

:57:25. > :57:28.hand went in front Ebanks, that was the best punch he has drawn all

:57:29. > :57:33.afternoon. We have seen signs at the end of the

:57:34. > :57:36.second round that Ebanks can go through the gears, and he just did

:57:37. > :57:42.there. He just has to upped the tempo and go for it, he has nothing

:57:43. > :57:44.to lose. He has to put on a bit of pressure. He has fast hands, he has

:57:45. > :57:55.to use them. A little bit more schooling and more

:57:56. > :58:00.experience and Tafari Ebanks could be a prospect.

:58:01. > :58:04.He just makes that mistake of dropping the left hand, even when he

:58:05. > :58:08.is in punching range. That hand is still at his chest and that is why

:58:09. > :58:12.he keeps getting caught with these right hands from Njangiru.

:58:13. > :58:17.He keeps coming forward, that was a bit of a slap with the left hand.

:58:18. > :58:19.Njangiru has him where he wants him, right in front of him and close to

:58:20. > :58:28.the ropes. It has been a better round so far

:58:29. > :58:33.for Tafari Ebanks. Njangiru tags him with a good left, lovely bodywork by

:58:34. > :58:38.the Kenyan. Better movement. Years in and out

:58:39. > :58:42.now, Njangiru, whereas Ebanks is flat-footed.

:58:43. > :58:52.That was a slip, nice gesture by Ebanks, he bent over to give his

:58:53. > :58:57.mind a hand up -- to give his man and up. He got a round of applause

:58:58. > :58:59.for that from this grade in the SECC, what are delightfully

:59:00. > :59:04.old-fashioned, gentlemanly thing to do.

:59:05. > :59:07.Cracking right hand from Njangiru. That was good because he went to the

:59:08. > :59:13.body first. Went to the body then brought the shot over the top,

:59:14. > :59:17.clever boxing from Njangiru. That was a bit south of the border.

:59:18. > :59:22.He looked at the referee, who said get on with it, and Tafari Ebanks

:59:23. > :59:24.decided not to be particularly gentlemanly and had a good flash at

:59:25. > :59:28.him. Coming to the end of this one, no

:59:29. > :59:32.doubt about the winner. Ebanks gives him a thump to say thank you very

:59:33. > :59:37.much for the experience, if nothing else. I am pretty sure that Benson

:59:38. > :59:40.Njangiru has got this one, it was a better third round for the youngster

:59:41. > :59:53.from became an island, Tafari Ebanks, but Njangiru from Kenya,

:59:54. > :59:56.where he is a policeman... I would not dispute a parking ticket

:59:57. > :00:05.with him, would you? No!

:00:06. > :00:08.Good boxing from temp one. That was the shot that was definitely low.

:00:09. > :00:13.Looking at the referee, he should have just boxed on, really, nearly

:00:14. > :00:27.got caught with the shot. He has won the contest, no doubt. Both these

:00:28. > :00:36.young men have been an absolute credit to the sport. The route to

:00:37. > :00:50.the semifinal, from Kenyan, Benson Njangiru. The last round went to

:00:51. > :00:58.Ebanks, but Benson Njangiru has won the contest. All three judges giving

:00:59. > :01:04.it to him. What a great bit of gymnastics! Maybe he is in the wrong

:01:05. > :01:12.arena! I haven't seen anybody do that in a boxing ring for a long

:01:13. > :01:21.time. Benson Njangiru, as silver medallist in Delhi. He has put on a

:01:22. > :01:26.Celtic top! That will endear him to have a Glasgow! -- half of Glasgow!

:01:27. > :01:39.Benson Njangiru playing to some of the home fans anyway. Head over

:01:40. > :01:41.heels is a good way of describing how happy he is with that! A very
