:00:00. > :00:00.forward to seeing this afternoon, we can go over to John Inver deal, is

:00:00. > :00:08.Nicola Adams. She lit up the arena with a smile on her face. This is

:00:09. > :00:09.the first time ever that women's boxing has been the Commonwealth

:00:10. > :00:10.Games. Everybody is looking to her to double her gold tally. The Kenyan

:00:11. > :00:16.winner who did that fantastic backflip in the ring, immediately as

:00:17. > :00:25.he left the ring he put on a Celtic that old shirt which divided the

:00:26. > :00:30.crowd! As you could imagine! As far as Nicola Adams is concerned, we are

:00:31. > :00:32.just waiting on Warren Baister to come in to the ring, the heavyweight

:00:33. > :00:39.from England. What is extraordinary about Nicola Adams, the scheduling

:00:40. > :00:43.was a bit awry for her. Everybody was looking forward to seeing her

:00:44. > :00:47.but she didn't get out into the ring until about 11:20pm at night and the

:00:48. > :00:52.place was nearly empty, which was a shame. When she was announced, it

:00:53. > :01:00.was almost the biggest cheer of the book Cincom petition so far. You can

:01:01. > :01:04.see the pictures up on the screens and people on Twitter can't have

:01:05. > :01:06.their messages put up there. There have been more tweets up there

:01:07. > :01:11.their messages put up there. There have been more about Mick -- about

:01:12. > :01:20.Nicola Adams and women's boxing in particular. Over the last two years,

:01:21. > :01:25.she has become a talismanic for women's boxing. It'll be great to

:01:26. > :01:30.see her in action this afternoon. I think that would be in about 90

:01:31. > :01:42.minutes. These are the big guys coming. Back to Jim Neely. Very kind

:01:43. > :02:02.of you, John! I am big when it comes to my width, not to much the height.

:02:03. > :02:12.These guys have both. Representing Canada, Samir El-Mais!

:02:13. > :02:26.In the blue corner, representing England, Warren Baister! Warren

:02:27. > :02:28.Baister started in impressive fashion beating Steven Ward. They

:02:29. > :02:46.are big boys, aren't they. Two men who boxed in the world

:02:47. > :02:51.championships a year ago find themselves boxing for a medal in the

:02:52. > :02:59.Commonwealth Games. From Canada, 33 years of age, born in Abu Dhabi, now

:03:00. > :03:04.lives in Windsor, Ontario, that is the guy in red, Samir El-Mais. From

:03:05. > :03:09.Sunderland, Warren Baister, 28 years of age. He is the

:03:10. > :03:18.Sunderland, Warren Baister, 28 years Warren Baister is in blue,

:03:19. > :03:20.Sunderland, Warren Baister, 28 years El-Mais is in red. Warren Baister

:03:21. > :03:27.had to read the contest against Steven Ward from Northern Ireland.

:03:28. > :03:35.His left hook was probably the best shot in the contest.

:03:36. > :03:45.The Canadian has a leaky guard. Warren Baister has to find the

:03:46. > :03:53.accuracy to work with his hook. The second Commonwealth Games for the

:03:54. > :03:55.Canadian, he defeated Kevin Evans, the veteran Welshman in this

:03:56. > :03:58.division four years ago. Canadian, he defeated Kevin Evans,

:03:59. > :04:06.the veteran Welshman in this He lost very narrowly in the quarterfinals

:04:07. > :04:12.to Stephen Simmons. I think the score was 7-4. I think Warren

:04:13. > :04:16.Baister will be favoured for this. He needs to find faster hands than

:04:17. > :04:21.he has shown so far. Good right hand from Warren Baister. The jab is the

:04:22. > :04:28.important shot here from Warren Baister. Long, straight, keep your

:04:29. > :04:34.man had day. As Samir El-Mais comes forward, he dips his head,

:04:35. > :04:38.overcommit. He will walk into a right uppercut from Warren Baister.

:04:39. > :04:45.He needs to use his jab, bring on the attack. It was a great left hook

:04:46. > :04:51.by Warren Baister in the second round against Steven Ward that

:04:52. > :04:59.really turned the tide. There is the left hook yet again. Samir El-Mais

:05:00. > :05:08.has been hurt a little bit. What a good shot by Warren Baister.

:05:09. > :05:17.He has a lot of power in that shop. This guy comes forward, leaning in,

:05:18. > :05:26.he will walk into that, or an uppercut. He just has to get his

:05:27. > :05:33.timing right. Warren Baister holding a little bit, the referee won't

:05:34. > :05:37.allow that. Ten seconds to go. Not much between them, but for my money,

:05:38. > :05:43.Warren Baister with some solid very visible shock, he will have taken

:05:44. > :05:49.this one. We have been wrong before! I think Warren Baister won

:05:50. > :05:56.that round. I think he got his opponent with a better quality shots

:05:57. > :06:06.right hand and a left hook. This guy has waited a long time the box. Here

:06:07. > :06:10.is the left hook. What a cracking shot. Warren Baister knew he landed

:06:11. > :06:20.with it. What a sweet punch that was. This fella from Canada must

:06:21. > :06:25.have a good chin! Two judges have given it to Warren Baister. One

:06:26. > :06:36.judge has given it to the Canadian, as they raise at quizzical eyebrow.

:06:37. > :06:40.Is that a little cut? I think that came from the Steven Ward fight, to

:06:41. > :06:45.be honest. Let's hope it doesn't open up. Two more rounds to go

:06:46. > :06:51.separating these boxers, place in the semifinals, therefore a bronze

:06:52. > :07:03.medal at the very least. Good left hand but the Canadian. And

:07:04. > :07:08.a good right. He has got Warren Baister a couple of times. Another

:07:09. > :07:10.good punch by Samir El-Mais. We know he is dangerous.

:07:11. > :07:12.Baister a couple of times. Another good punch by Samir El-Mais. We He

:07:13. > :07:17.is dangerous with his head, coming forward like that. Warren Baister

:07:18. > :07:23.will have to watch that, he already has a cut on his eye. Warren Baister

:07:24. > :07:30.has the longer reach, and he has to use it. Samir El-Mais lost out the

:07:31. > :07:41.world Championships last year against Thomas McCarthy. He has gone

:07:42. > :07:44.professional now, much to the disappointment of those involved in

:07:45. > :07:51.amateur boxing in Northern Ireland. He would have been here. Samir

:07:52. > :07:58.El-Mais is a very strong man. His punch resistance is very high.

:07:59. > :08:03.Warren Baister has caught him a couple of times, but that doesn't

:08:04. > :08:07.seem to faze him. There was the opportunity to land the uppercut.

:08:08. > :08:14.Bring him on and finish on the hook!

:08:15. > :08:21.Warren Baister trying to get the right hand in. Wasn't 1 million

:08:22. > :08:28.miles away. The referee is letting them get on with it. Samir El-Mais

:08:29. > :08:40.is dangerous with that right hand. A clever left hook by the Canadian.

:08:41. > :08:50.Warren Baister did rattle his man in the opening round. Another good left

:08:51. > :08:56.by Warren Baister -- another good left by Samir El-Mais, that rattled

:08:57. > :09:04.Warren Baister. He needs to use his jab, keep the man away, and when he

:09:05. > :09:15.comes in use the hook. The jab will keep him off balance. Keep your

:09:16. > :09:21.hands up, Warren Baister. He got caught again. He did not press on

:09:22. > :09:32.that advantage. He should have hounded his man. There is the right

:09:33. > :09:45.uppercut. That wasn't too bad. The second round has gone. It will

:09:46. > :09:59.be interesting to see how they score this. I think Samir El-Mais that the

:10:00. > :10:10.better work. -- did the better work. Warren Baister's cancer just too

:10:11. > :10:24.low. -- Warren Baister's hands are just too low. All three have given

:10:25. > :10:33.it to the Canadian, who he is just ahead.

:10:34. > :10:46.Warren Baister will have to go for it.

:10:47. > :10:52.Warren Baister in blue, from Sunderland. This is the men's

:10:53. > :11:02.heavyweight division. This is the first of the quarterfinals. He just

:11:03. > :11:08.met at -- mistyped for London 2012 a couple of years ago. He has is work

:11:09. > :11:16.cut out if he is going to make it through this. Samir El-Mais has got

:11:17. > :11:33.his way into this contest pretty well. There is a cut. Was that a

:11:34. > :11:39.punch or a clash of heads? The doctor is having a really good look.

:11:40. > :11:44.We can't quite see where it is. It might be on the eyebrow. That is a

:11:45. > :11:53.bad position, the blood runs into DIA. He is allowed to box. That will

:11:54. > :11:58.encourage Warren Baister. This is the third round, remember. Temp to

:11:59. > :12:04.has to go for it. Good left-hand by the Canadian.

:12:05. > :12:11.Good right hand by Warren Baister, that is better. That hurt him. You

:12:12. > :12:20.can see he has gone back a little bit. His eye is a mess. He has to be

:12:21. > :12:28.more aggressive, get your accuracy and timing right. Good left-hand,

:12:29. > :12:34.again. The old claret is flowing down the right hand side of the face

:12:35. > :12:39.of the Canadian. The referee has not really spotted it, he is on the

:12:40. > :12:43.wrong side. Samir El-Mais is coming steaming forward. Another good

:12:44. > :12:51.left-hand by him. Warren Baister really has to work now. He has got

:12:52. > :12:52.to put everything into it now. Warren Baister behind on the

:12:53. > :13:06.scorecard. rounds. Can Warren Baister turn this

:13:07. > :13:11.around? His opponent is cut and bloody but coming at him all the

:13:12. > :13:17.time. Warren Baister needs to score. The referee is letting it go. Sharp

:13:18. > :13:21.right hand. Not a bad bit of officiating and not a bad bit of

:13:22. > :13:27.punching by Baister. El Mais comes bulldozing forward. Use the feet and

:13:28. > :13:32.create a little room. Bring him forward, bring him onto the shots

:13:33. > :13:38.will stop that is what Baister has got to do. Come forward, adjust your

:13:39. > :13:44.feet. He got caught. I was about to say, one punch from Baister might

:13:45. > :13:50.win this for him. A good punch by Baister but he has been caught and

:13:51. > :13:57.the left of L Mase -- the left of El Mais again connecting. No command

:13:58. > :14:04.from the referee to part. El Mais rubbing heads very nasty Lee. Just a

:14:05. > :14:06.few seconds remaining, and has El Mais' late surge swung it in his

:14:07. > :14:14.favour, despite that cut, which Mais' late surge swung it in his

:14:15. > :14:19.hand at the end. El Mais thinks he has got it and so does Baister. What

:14:20. > :14:25.do you think? A very close round, wasn't it? I got it wrong last time

:14:26. > :14:26.do you think? A very close round, with Sean McGoldrick. I hope I

:14:27. > :14:29.do you think? A very close round, got it wrong this time because I

:14:30. > :14:33.think the Canadian has done enough to take it. He just wanted it a

:14:34. > :14:41.little bit more, although I might be wrong. Warren caught him. That was

:14:42. > :14:46.his head, going in. The referee did not pick it up but you just have to

:14:47. > :14:50.get on with it. Let's have a look. A clash of heads. That is where the

:14:51. > :14:57.Canadian got a cut earlier in the round. He was allowed to continue.

:14:58. > :15:01.We will have to go to the judges. What a close one this is going to

:15:02. > :15:06.be. Did Warren Baister do enough in the last round? Remember, he had to

:15:07. > :15:12.win it on at least two of the three cards.

:15:13. > :15:29.Ladies and gentlemen, we go to the judges' scorecards and we have a

:15:30. > :15:35.split decision. In favour of the winner and through to the semifinal,

:15:36. > :15:40.in the red corner, Samir El Mais! The Canadian has got it and Warren

:15:41. > :15:49.Baister is pretty devastated. Two judges scored it El Mais, 29-28. The

:15:50. > :15:54.man from Sri Lanka, sorry, Korea, has given it to Warren Baister, who

:15:55. > :16:02.leaves a very disappointed boxer. And Samir El Mais in this, his

:16:03. > :16:07.second Commonwealth Games, has got through to the medal stages that the

:16:08. > :16:11.first time. Very pleased with himself. He did just the little bit

:16:12. > :16:16.more in the third and final round. He squeezed past Warren Baister.

:16:17. > :16:23.Waste will be hugely disappointed. This man, as you can see, hugely

:16:24. > :16:32.delighted. Oh, dear. It just did not work out for Warren Baister. A nice

:16:33. > :16:38.sake of hands at the end. -- shake of hands. Warren Baister gives his

:16:39. > :16:42.man a bit of a hug. I am not sure if he is in the mood to do an

:16:43. > :16:48.interview. I think he is. He is with John, blesses socks.

:16:49. > :16:54.That looked very close, did you think you had won it? I thought I

:16:55. > :16:58.hit him with better shots. He was working but they were just scuffing

:16:59. > :17:04.around my gloves. I thought I had between shots and did enough. What

:17:05. > :17:07.it is one of those things. When he got cut and there was a lot of blood

:17:08. > :17:14.all over the place, did you think it was your chance? Yes, but fair play

:17:15. > :17:17.to him, he was very game and a very experienced lad. He's been around

:17:18. > :17:23.the block and he knows what he's doing. But I thought I did enough. A

:17:24. > :17:31.game performance and thanks for talking to us.

:17:32. > :17:39.The action continues in this highly competitive men's heavyweight

:17:40. > :17:46.division. Samir El Mais is through but who will meet him in the

:17:47. > :18:03.semifinals? It is going to be either a Nigerian, or an Australian.

:18:04. > :18:07.This is the Australian, in blue, made Olympic boxing history when he

:18:08. > :18:12.became the youngest Australian boxer to compete in the Olympic Games that

:18:13. > :18:18.only 17. He is now only 19 and he is a big lump. But even bigger is the

:18:19. > :18:22.man across the ring from him. Just to bring you up to speed, the judges

:18:23. > :18:29.at ringside from Azerbaijan, Croatia, Wales, Georgia and Brazil.

:18:30. > :18:37.The referee is the experienced Denis Popoff, from Russia. Remember, five

:18:38. > :18:38.judges at ringside, all scoring but only three, randomly selected by

:18:39. > :18:57.computer, will count. A first round stoppage for the big

:18:58. > :19:00.Nigerian. The world junior silver medallist from three years ago, and

:19:01. > :19:08.the world youth bronze medallist from two years ago.

:19:09. > :19:20.The young Australian, by an inch or two the taller. But this Nigerian is

:19:21. > :19:32.immensely strong. He stopped the Isle of Man -based Polish boxer in

:19:33. > :19:37.the first round. Obadiah, straight into action. He is a southpaw,

:19:38. > :19:40.bigger and taller, and faster, but can he stand up to the punching of

:19:41. > :19:52.the chunky fellow in red, the 26-year-old Nigerian, Apochi? Jay

:19:53. > :19:58.Opetaia of Australia in blue, and Apochi of Nigeria in red. Richie

:19:59. > :20:02.Woodhall alongside me. Apochi, the Nigerian, is strong. You look for

:20:03. > :20:07.the big right hand. I think that might be the shop to throw. I think

:20:08. > :20:11.this Australian has got a box at distance against this fellow. He

:20:12. > :20:15.does not need to be taking any risks. Both of them really going for

:20:16. > :20:23.it, swinging with big shots. I like this Australian, I think he has a

:20:24. > :20:28.lot of talent. Yes, he lost his opening contest in the Olympics at

:20:29. > :20:35.17, to the hugely experienced man who was a world champion, from

:20:36. > :20:41.Azerbaijan. It was only 12-11 on the old computer scoring system. We were

:20:42. > :20:43.amazed, then. And he is still only a teenager. He will not be 20 until

:20:44. > :20:49.May next year. Solid shots going in from both men.

:20:50. > :21:07.Something is going to have to give. Good head movement from Apochi.

:21:08. > :21:12.Short and solid. Apochi is a bit flat-footed. He probably needs his

:21:13. > :21:16.opponent to be standing, holding their feet in front of him so he can

:21:17. > :21:20.work. He will struggle if this Australian gets on his bike and

:21:21. > :21:24.moves. I think the Nigerian might struggle to cope with that. Very

:21:25. > :21:28.flat-footed indeed. If you choose the wrong tactics, hold your feet

:21:29. > :21:31.and stand with him, that really brings him into the contest. This

:21:32. > :21:37.Nigerian has natural strength and power. Good right hand from Jay

:21:38. > :21:40.Opetaia, just being a little slow with the right jab. That is better,

:21:41. > :21:46.trying to slip the left into the ribs. He led with his left, that

:21:47. > :21:52.time but he is standing very square, the Australian. He needs to be

:21:53. > :22:02.havens of. -- to behave himself. Apochi, with a solid left from the

:22:03. > :22:05.Australian youngster. Good jab. Jay Opetaia's head went back and he was

:22:06. > :22:13.retreating anyway but that was a good shot by Apochi, and he covers

:22:14. > :22:16.up well. Jay Opetaia has got some nice moves, but occasionally loses

:22:17. > :22:21.concentration and allows himself to go back onto the ropes, like just

:22:22. > :22:25.then. His movement goes from positive positions into negative, on

:22:26. > :22:29.the ropes. He has got a bit of skill but he needs to sort out his ring

:22:30. > :22:39.craft a bit better. Again, another close one.

:22:40. > :22:49.Apochi, coming forward, strong with the right hand. It is a bit messy.

:22:50. > :22:53.Not a loss of quality, there. Jay Opetaia, working downstairs, and

:22:54. > :22:58.making the mistake of holding his feet and just allowing his opponent

:22:59. > :23:16.to come back. Let's have a look at the scores.

:23:17. > :23:21.He was injured in May of this year but they got him patched up pretty

:23:22. > :23:28.quickly and nursed him through. Showing no signs of any hand injury,

:23:29. > :23:34.Jay Opetaia. The big fellow in blue, the Australian teenage heavyweight,

:23:35. > :23:38.Jay Opetaia, who just shaded the opening round. All three judges

:23:39. > :23:44.giving him the nod. His opponent from Nigeria, Apochi, will know that

:23:45. > :23:48.and will have do come charging forward. He boxed in the World

:23:49. > :23:55.Championships last year, incidentally, Apochi, and lost to

:23:56. > :23:59.the man who beat Jay Opetaia in the Olympics, from Azerbaijan, who went

:24:00. > :24:02.on to win the bronze medal, as he did in the Olympics in 2012. So they

:24:03. > :24:13.have got somebody in common. The referee breaks that up. Apochi

:24:14. > :24:17.being a bit more aggressive in this round. Jay Opetaia has got to get in

:24:18. > :24:24.first with his right hand and bring his left across. Did not quite get

:24:25. > :24:29.through the guard. A little rub of heads, there. The Australian has got

:24:30. > :24:35.to get an move. Movement is the key against the Nigerian. He is strong.

:24:36. > :24:39.-- has got to hit and move. If you move, he tends to struggle. He

:24:40. > :24:45.enjoys you holding your feet, that type of contest. You can see him

:24:46. > :24:50.moving off, Jay Opetaia, and Apochi cannot close down the gap. He is too

:24:51. > :24:54.slow on his feet. Movement is the key for the Australian. Better work

:24:55. > :24:59.by the Australian, right hand, followed by a left, straight through

:25:00. > :25:04.the guard. A clash of heads as well. They have to watch that. Jay

:25:05. > :25:10.Opetaia, just leaning in with his head. He needs to go to the body,

:25:11. > :25:13.the Nigerian's elbows came up to him at chest level, a huge amount of

:25:14. > :25:20.midriff and stomach available for a target. News. Struggling with the

:25:21. > :25:25.pace. I think he is tiring, holding his feet, there. Jay Opetaia,

:25:26. > :25:28.pace. I think he is tiring, holding a bit of pressure but Backe comes.

:25:29. > :25:34.But Apochi is very strong. He is not going to go away. -- but back he

:25:35. > :25:40.comes. The referee is happy with the holding. Jay Opetaia, under a bit of

:25:41. > :25:44.pressure, trying to pop out the shots and he has got caught again. I

:25:45. > :25:49.think he is tiring, you are right. He is wobbling a bit and he has got

:25:50. > :25:54.caught and he is hurt, and Apochi is threatening to stop this. Suddenly,

:25:55. > :25:58.Jay Opetaia, not a lot there. He is up on his toes but I think it is a

:25:59. > :26:03.bit for show. We said movement was key, you hold your feet and you

:26:04. > :26:07.bring the other guy into it. That is what has happened. He is tired and

:26:08. > :26:12.has taken a couple of shots. Another round to go and this is good stuff

:26:13. > :26:16.from Apochi. Years really battering the Australian youngster, who is

:26:17. > :26:20.visibly tiring by the second. Ten seconds to go and Apochi comes

:26:21. > :26:24.steaming forward. A couple of good shots in reply so Jay Opetaia has a

:26:25. > :26:29.bit left. But it is a tired end of the round for the young Australian.

:26:30. > :26:32.He meanders back to his corner. Apochi, straight back to his. They

:26:33. > :26:49.will be a lot happier than they were three minutes ago.

:26:50. > :26:57.This guy here, his fitness to seemed to disintegrate, he fell apart. This

:26:58. > :27:07.was a better rally at the end of the round by Jai Opetaia, but, before

:27:08. > :27:13.that, oh dear, he just lost it. You will not disagree with those scores.

:27:14. > :27:32.First across-the-board goes to Efetobor Apochi.

:27:33. > :27:43.So, the third, final and decisive round with this men's heavyweight

:27:44. > :27:57.quarterfinal contest. At stake is a guaranteed bronze medal. Towards the

:27:58. > :28:02.end of the second round, Jai Opetaia started to fall apart a bit. He got

:28:03. > :28:07.caught I have very good right hand by Efetobor Apochi and he wasn't the

:28:08. > :28:15.same box. Can Efetobor Apochi pick it up where he left off? This is a

:28:16. > :28:19.classic case of a man who is probably more talented than his

:28:20. > :28:23.opponent but if you don't have basic fitness, the less talented man will

:28:24. > :28:27.really come into it, gain confidence, he will start to think

:28:28. > :28:33.you can win. This will be a real test physically for Jai Opetaia, but

:28:34. > :28:41.mentally, as well. He needs to choose the right tactics. Again,

:28:42. > :28:49.Efetobor Apochi is coming back. He has slowed down so much. Efetobor

:28:50. > :28:56.Apochi is starting to look tired, but does he have the reserves of

:28:57. > :29:05.strength that we see from the boxers from Kenyon, Nigeria and Uganda?

:29:06. > :29:09.Still there for the taking, midway through the last round. The first

:29:10. > :29:18.round to the man in blue, the second round to the man in red. As we have

:29:19. > :29:23.set a hundred times, it comes down to whoever wants it most. If you

:29:24. > :29:26.don't want to win a contest gets you a Commonwealth Games medal, you

:29:27. > :29:35.shouldn't be in the medal. Well, they don't give it to you, you have

:29:36. > :29:42.to earn it. Efetobor Apochi is coming again. All the skills that

:29:43. > :29:47.Jai Opetaia showed in the first round have gone. He is trying to

:29:48. > :29:54.rely on a couple of big punches. He is slapping. Efetobor Apochi does

:29:55. > :30:06.not look to fresh himself. These two have punched themselves almost a

:30:07. > :30:15.standstill. Efetobor Apochi just he just has to keep it going. Jai

:30:16. > :30:25.Opetaia is wobbling, swaying. That hurt him downstairs. Nothing coming

:30:26. > :30:34.back from Jai Opetaia. Ten seconds to go. This chunky Nigerian is

:30:35. > :30:39.putting on all of the pressure. For my money, I think Efetobor Apochi

:30:40. > :30:48.has got this. What a great last round. Jai Opetaia had nothing in

:30:49. > :30:52.his tank. That was very surprising. All the skills, the movement in the

:30:53. > :31:01.first round, it just went away from him. When he held his feet, he was

:31:02. > :31:11.getting caught on the ropes, bad ring craft, bad movement, swinging

:31:12. > :31:16.wildly. He goes to the floor. He missed the target too often. Very

:31:17. > :31:25.close last round indeed. Who is your money on, Jim? The red corner. I

:31:26. > :31:26.will go blue! OK, I will give you that pound IOU later, assuming you

:31:27. > :31:41.are right! Ladies and gentlemen, we have the

:31:42. > :31:45.scores. The winner by unanimous decision and now through to the

:31:46. > :31:53.semifinal, in the red corner, from Nigeria, Efetobor Apochi! I will get

:31:54. > :31:56.that point later, Richie. Efetobor Apochi has gone through having lost

:31:57. > :32:10.the opening round, he took the last two rounds. The 26-year-old from

:32:11. > :32:13.Nigeria has got himself a medal. For a big man to do that! He must be

:32:14. > :32:42.fit! A delightful finish. Here it is

:32:43. > :32:52.again. Degree of difficulty, 6.2! He deserved that, Ritchie? Yes, he did.

:32:53. > :33:00.He wanted it more. Efetobor Apochi goes through.

:33:01. > :33:05.Well, the big fella clearly very happy about winning there. The

:33:06. > :33:14.gymnastics final is happening over on BBC One. On the red button, you

:33:15. > :33:20.can watch hockey. It is New Zealand against Canada. If you hit the blue

:33:21. > :33:25.button, other options are available depending on your provider. Of

:33:26. > :33:36.course, we have all the sports live on the website. Perhaps Babington?

:33:37. > :33:45.Awesome table tennis? Or maybe squash? --

:33:46. > :33:58.we are going to go back to boxing, the men's heavyweight division.

:33:59. > :34:10.Scotland's Stephen Lavelle is heading towards the ring.

:34:11. > :34:21.The rift is about to come off here! In comes the local favourite, born

:34:22. > :34:29.in Glasgow, lives in Glasgow, coached by Joe Ham senior.

:34:30. > :34:34.in Glasgow, lives in Glasgow, Stephen Lavelle. 23 years of

:34:35. > :35:05.in Glasgow, lives in Glasgow, champion. He is in

:35:06. > :35:12.There is Amritpreet Singh, from India. In the red corner,

:35:13. > :35:20.representing India, Amritpreet Singh!

:35:21. > :35:54.In the blue corner, representing Scotland, Stephen Lavelle!

:35:55. > :36:01.The man in blue, from Scotland, Stephen Lavelle is giving away about

:36:02. > :36:11.half a foot in height from this enormously tall teenager from the

:36:12. > :36:16.Punjab. So, Scotland in blue, India in red. The second contest for

:36:17. > :36:37.Stephen Lavelle. He came through against Kody Davies. Amritpreet is

:36:38. > :36:43.enormously tall. Stephen Lavelle I think will try to get inside him.

:36:44. > :36:52.Also the right hand over the top is the shot he will concentrate on.

:36:53. > :37:07.Look how low the left hand of the Indian is.

:37:08. > :37:15.You can see the problem is that Stephen Lavelle has. It was a good

:37:16. > :37:25.right hand to the head of the Indian. The tactics right from

:37:26. > :37:29.Stephen Lavelle, gets on the inside. He needs to switch the attack from

:37:30. > :37:39.body to head, finish on the hook, the right hand over the head.

:37:40. > :37:50.Good right hand from the Indian boxer. He has to use his enormous

:37:51. > :37:57.reach advantage. He wasn't too far away with that right hand, Stephen

:37:58. > :38:06.Lavelle. He just has to watch the right from the taller man. Good

:38:07. > :38:10.right by Stephen Lavelle. Not much between them. Stephen Lavelle is

:38:11. > :38:15.doing the better work inside, when he can get inside. Good right from

:38:16. > :38:22.the body by Stephen Lavelle. Stephen Lavelle is, I think, the outside of

:38:23. > :38:26.his left eye. The referee from Finland is having a look at it. He

:38:27. > :38:33.is looking at the face of the Indian. I think Stephen Lavelle is

:38:34. > :38:35.cut. Amritpreet is slapping a bit. Good footwork by Stephen Lavelle. He

:38:36. > :38:49.gets back inside. Box on, says the referee. Into the

:38:50. > :38:53.last 30 seconds. Stephen Lavelle is coming steaming forward. It is

:38:54. > :39:04.messy, scrapping. He has to get on the ropes. He wants to keep him

:39:05. > :39:16.square. Another good left hand by the Scotsman. The long arms of the

:39:17. > :39:24.Indian keep dropping down. Yes, there is a cut. It looks like an old

:39:25. > :39:25.one that has opened up. They just need

:39:26. > :39:27.there is a cut. It looks like an old one that has opened up. They just to

:39:28. > :39:27.try to stop the flow of blood into the eye. Stephen

:39:28. > :39:40.try to stop the flow of blood into Lavelle gets in with a fantastic

:39:41. > :40:10.shop, a simple jab. The scores have gone with the Scotsman.

:40:11. > :40:19.The first round of this heavyweight quarterfinal goes to the shorter of

:40:20. > :40:23.the two, in blue. It wouldn't be hard to be shorter than this fella

:40:24. > :40:28.from India, who is only 19 years of age, but is six foot six. He is the

:40:29. > :40:37.tallest boxer in the whole tournament. Plenty of opportunities

:40:38. > :40:42.for Stephen Lavelle to land the right hand over the top. Amritpreet

:40:43. > :40:48.has started to come out with the jab, but he is not very accurate.

:40:49. > :40:57.Stephen Lavelle has to jump to his left and threw in the hook. A couple

:40:58. > :41:11.of good shots thereby Amritpreet. Stephen Lavelle has to be careful he

:41:12. > :41:20.doesn't get picked off that range. He needs to stick to his left and

:41:21. > :41:30.moved that right hand over. You are not allowed to hang onto the ropes.

:41:31. > :41:40.Amritpreet is inviting Stephen Lavelle to go forwards. Stephen

:41:41. > :41:51.Lavelle has to work more on the inside. That wasn't a bad shot! His

:41:52. > :42:08.eyes seems to be fine, incidentally. -- his eye.

:42:09. > :42:16.What a belting shop that was by Stephen Lavelle. Amritpreet is

:42:17. > :42:26.starting to look a little bit wobbly. If he can land again... And

:42:27. > :42:30.again by Stephen Lavelle! And again. Amritpreet can't just sit back and

:42:31. > :42:34.admire his work, he has to keep pressing. Stephen Lavelle is very

:42:35. > :42:40.strong. Not the best man in terms of the work, he is no dancer, but he

:42:41. > :42:43.can punch a bit. That could see him through if he keeps going and

:42:44. > :42:51.doesn't get tired. Amritpreet leaning again. He gets him again

:42:52. > :42:54.with a right, then the left. He just needs to draw the jab of the

:42:55. > :42:56.opponent. Slip, then through the right hand over almost

:42:57. > :43:08.instantaneously. as well. A good right hand to finish

:43:09. > :43:14.and a little lad, just to remind his man. And Lavelle has a very short

:43:15. > :43:20.trip to his still in the blue corner. He will be pretty pleased

:43:21. > :43:24.and pretty pleased when the judges' scores go up. Better work from

:43:25. > :43:28.Lavelle. He caught his opponent with the cleaner shots, more

:43:29. > :43:36.eye-catching. Right hand over the top, there. A good shot, indeed.

:43:37. > :43:40.Coming up well, just get scored with the jab. When he is at range, years

:43:41. > :43:44.going to get caught, which is why he has to go forward, slip the shot and

:43:45. > :43:49.then over the top of the right hand. That is what I'm talking about. That

:43:50. > :43:56.was the best right-hand of the round. The best punch the contest.

:43:57. > :44:01.-- of the contest. One judge has given it to the Indian, and the

:44:02. > :44:07.other two have given it to Lavelle, who is in pole position. There is

:44:08. > :44:15.the Scottish Boxing Day. One or two nails getting chewed. What a game 's

:44:16. > :44:21.Glasgow has posted, the Scots on home territory. And what a boxing to

:44:22. > :44:24.and we have had at the SECC. We are within punching distance of the

:44:25. > :44:28.wonderful River Clyde. The man in blue knows the river well, the

:44:29. > :44:39.Glaswegian, Stephen Lavelle, coached locally. He is now less than three

:44:40. > :44:43.minutes away. He can guarantee himself a Commonwealth Games medal.

:44:44. > :44:50.Don't swing your man around. This is not strict recon dancing. --

:44:51. > :44:54.strictly come dancing. He needs controlled aggression. He does not

:44:55. > :44:59.have to be selling. He has to finish on his left foot after the right

:45:00. > :45:01.hand he throws over the top. He has got to be sensible about it.

:45:02. > :45:09.Controlled aggression is what he needs. Ducking down a little bit and

:45:10. > :45:15.the referee telling him to keep his head up. Is Stephen Lavelle tiring a

:45:16. > :45:18.little bit? It is getting a bit scrappy. I think they are both

:45:19. > :45:28.tiring. Lavelle has got to keep it going. Yes, not too bad. He is just

:45:29. > :45:31.trying to split them up, now. It is so close, Lavelle does not want to

:45:32. > :45:35.get a warning but he has landed with a very good right hand and

:45:36. > :45:39.Amritpreet is not moving the way he did in the opening round. He has

:45:40. > :45:43.slowed down considerably. If Lavelle can get to him again with single

:45:44. > :45:47.slowed down considerably. If Lavelle shots like that, he can make sure of

:45:48. > :45:55.a place in the semifinals. You can see, also, to finish on the left

:45:56. > :46:00.hook is the opportunity. Manfred's -- Amritpreet's left hand keeps on

:46:01. > :46:03.coming down as he makes the shot. Lavelle has got to work on the

:46:04. > :46:08.inside. When you get the opportunity, work away, showed the

:46:09. > :46:14.judges you are willing to work on the inside. He needs to be careful.

:46:15. > :46:18.Into the final minute. Lavelle was leading at the start of this round,

:46:19. > :46:24.and he is probably still in that position and he will want to keep it

:46:25. > :46:28.that way. His head going down as his opponent is pushing him down. The

:46:29. > :46:32.referee says the Indian is that full. Come on, Stephen Lavelle, you

:46:33. > :46:37.need a couple more telling shots, to win this one. He is getting caught

:46:38. > :46:46.himself, now, a slashing right-hand and unintended uppercut by

:46:47. > :46:50.Amritpreet. -- and intended. The Indian is finishing the round a bit

:46:51. > :46:54.stronger. He needs to attack. The last 20 seconds are absolutely

:46:55. > :46:58.crucial in a close round like this. Another sneaky ride from Lavelle,

:46:59. > :47:03.who is really exhausted now. There is nothing much left from either

:47:04. > :47:08.boxer. It has got very messy. Don't hit round the back of the head. Not

:47:09. > :47:12.for the first time. But Lavelle is about to go, and I think Stephen

:47:13. > :47:20.Lavelle has done enough to take this. He reckons he has. I think he

:47:21. > :47:24.has as well. He just did the slightly better work in that round.

:47:25. > :47:27.There was a period in the last 45 seconds when Amritpreet started to

:47:28. > :47:31.come back into it and looked like he was finishing stronger. But then

:47:32. > :47:36.Lavelle just lost him again. A good right hand over the top. He just

:47:37. > :47:40.found a lift book, it would have been better. He gets picked off

:47:41. > :47:47.occasionally at range but overall, you have to say he did enough to win

:47:48. > :47:52.the last round. He wins it, for me. He conceded so much in terms of

:47:53. > :47:53.height and reach, Stephen Lavelle. His opponent is probably six inches

:47:54. > :48:11.taller than him. Ladies and gentlemen, we have the

:48:12. > :48:15.judges' scored totals, and the winner, by unanimous decision, and

:48:16. > :48:27.now through to the semifinal, in the blue corner, representing Scotland,

:48:28. > :48:31.Stephen Lavelle! The Commonwealth Games semifinalist on home turf. And

:48:32. > :48:35.to a man, woman and child at the SECC, they are on their feet for

:48:36. > :48:39.Stephen Lavelle. It was a tough contest against a man who physically

:48:40. > :48:43.had so much more in the way of advantage but Lavelle's

:48:44. > :48:49.determination some good, hard work and a big engine and a big heart has

:48:50. > :48:53.got him through. Stephen Lavelle has won it on all three judges

:48:54. > :49:00.scorecards. He is in danger of being hard to death by the Scottish

:49:01. > :49:06.coaching team. -- Huggett to death. One more match to go and then he is

:49:07. > :49:08.into the final. Stephen Lavelle has got himself a Commonwealth Games

:49:09. > :49:16.bronze medal on home turf and he is talking to John.

:49:17. > :49:23.You have got a medal! I'm absolutely delighted. He was so tall and

:49:24. > :49:27.awkward to deal with but I ground it out like I did in the first fight.

:49:28. > :49:31.I'm delighted with my medal. That is for blood go. Fantastic. When you go

:49:32. > :49:37.into the ring against somebody who is so much taller than you, what is

:49:38. > :49:41.your immediate thought? To arms, two legs, no matter how big or how

:49:42. > :49:46.small, it is the same tactics. They say it is not his size, it is his

:49:47. > :49:50.heart and fight, and I had a massive heart. It was a bit scrappy to watch

:49:51. > :49:53.but I got the job done and I'm delighted. The crowd loved it. It

:49:54. > :49:58.does not matter about the quality. What do you do between now and

:49:59. > :50:03.Friday and the semifinal? Probably chill out a little bit. Not too

:50:04. > :50:08.much. We will keep sharpening, one-minute rounds, nothing too much,

:50:09. > :50:13.just keeping the quality up. But now it keeps going. What kind of friends

:50:14. > :50:17.and family are here? I stay about ten minutes away from the venue.

:50:18. > :50:21.Fantastic. A few people are at work, which I can understand but some of

:50:22. > :50:26.my friends and family have taken holidays. The crowd helped me again

:50:27. > :50:32.today. It was fantastic. It was great to watch. Congratulations.

:50:33. > :50:38.So who is going to take up the last place in the semifinals of this

:50:39. > :50:41.men's heavyweight division? Is it going to be this fellow, the

:50:42. > :50:48.22-year-old from New Zealand, who lives in Auckland, David Light, or

:50:49. > :50:57.is it going to be his opponent from Kenya, Charles Okoth, now 26.

:50:58. > :51:07.The first time we have seen Charles Okoth, he got himself a buy. Only 13

:51:08. > :51:11.competitors in the heavyweight division so he was fortunate to get

:51:12. > :51:20.a bike, so one victory, and he is into the medals. The judges are from

:51:21. > :51:23.Russia, Georgia, Denmark, Italy and Azerbaijan. There will be a big roar

:51:24. > :51:29.when the referee's names announced because he is from Scotland.

:51:30. > :51:37.Representing New Zealand, David Light! He produced the knockout of

:51:38. > :51:39.the tournament in his opening contest. In the blue, representing

:51:40. > :51:53.Kenya, Charles Odhiambo Okoth! And the referee for this one, ladies

:51:54. > :52:02.and gentlemen, from Scotland, Andrew Caulfield! Chiefs the former

:52:03. > :52:04.Scottish ABA champion, and a representative at light heavyweight

:52:05. > :52:10.in the Auckland Commonwealth Games way back in the day. Two men I know

:52:11. > :52:16.quite well, when McCulloch and Richie Woodhall, won gold medals

:52:17. > :52:20.then. -- Wayne McCulloch. So, Scotland's Andrew Caulfield brings

:52:21. > :52:25.them together. We are delighted to report that the Malaysians boxer,

:52:26. > :52:28.Omar, who was knocked out in spectacular fashion by David Light,

:52:29. > :52:32.recovered in time to take his place the following day. It looked very

:52:33. > :52:35.worrying, you have to say. David Light caught him with a corrosion is

:52:36. > :52:40.left upright on the point of his chin and he went down. -- a

:52:41. > :52:45.ferocious left hook, right on the point of his chin. Now David Light

:52:46. > :52:49.has a more difficult opponent in the shape of the 26-year-old man in blue

:52:50. > :52:54.from Kenya, Charles Okoth, who is a lot bigger and looks a lot stronger.

:52:55. > :52:57.David Light, taking his time. He boxed in the World Championships in

:52:58. > :53:07.Kazakhstan last year, lost his opening contest to an Uzbek

:53:08. > :53:11.fighter. Understandably, the Kenyan is a bit tentative. He has obviously

:53:12. > :53:16.seen the knockout David Light produced. He is keeping his distance

:53:17. > :53:27.and having a look at the New Zealand man. Varies that left again, just a

:53:28. > :53:30.whiff of it. -- there is. He did not show him the folic but Charles Okoth

:53:31. > :53:34.will be wondering what is in that left hand, and the answer is

:53:35. > :53:39.dynamite. You can see, he is on the back foot, inking he does not want

:53:40. > :53:45.to get on the end of one of the left hooks. He has got to watch what he

:53:46. > :53:49.is doing. That is a good left jab. David Light, looking very

:53:50. > :53:54.comfortable. No pun intended, but he is pretty light on his feet for a

:53:55. > :53:58.big man. He is six foot one. Giving away a bit of height to his

:53:59. > :54:02.opponent. To the body from the New Zealander, slipping away from the

:54:03. > :54:05.punch very nicely. It is nice to see him doing a bit of boxing because we

:54:06. > :54:10.did not get the chance to see what he could do because of the knockout.

:54:11. > :54:14.He looks quite competent. Charles Okoth has got to watch what he is

:54:15. > :54:18.doing. When he moves away, his right hand comes down a bit, and also,

:54:19. > :54:24.when he is blocking the jab, he does it with his right hand. David Light

:54:25. > :54:31.then decides to think the jab and through the hook, he will walk onto

:54:32. > :54:35.one. -- feint the jab. It is my understand that no longer will

:54:36. > :54:40.winners of the Oceana championship automatically qualify for the

:54:41. > :54:43.Olympics. I am led to believe they will have two enter the Asian

:54:44. > :54:48.qualifiers to get through. There is a chance we might not see any boxes

:54:49. > :54:54.from Australia and New Zealand, or the islands around them, in the

:54:55. > :54:58.Olympics ever again, but who knows? Strange things going on in the world

:54:59. > :55:04.of amateur boxing. A right hand from David Light. It is a good opening

:55:05. > :55:07.round. He has not been called with anything meaningful. Charles Okoth

:55:08. > :55:11.looking rather clumsy and David Light gets him again with a good

:55:12. > :55:15.ride. The New Zealander upping the pace well and putting pressure on

:55:16. > :55:21.his man. He is boxing very nicely indeed. A very good round of boxing.

:55:22. > :55:29.David Light boxing well. I think Charles Okoth, visibly shaken at

:55:30. > :55:33.times but his tactics kept him on the outside because of the powerful

:55:34. > :55:37.left hook his man has got. I think Charles Okoth is better at range. He

:55:38. > :55:40.gets clipped and made the mistake of falling short with the attack and

:55:41. > :55:44.gets caught with a little left hook which made him very unsteady on his

:55:45. > :55:50.legs. A tentative round from the Kenyan. Not a good one, I did not

:55:51. > :55:55.think. Yes, they have all gone per David Light. You can't disagree.

:55:56. > :56:03.Absolutely not. -- gone for David Light. You are too strong and too

:56:04. > :56:12.fast for this guy. I want your hands back nice and tight. I want some

:56:13. > :56:20.real pressure on him. You hear me? David Light, 22 years old. BELL

:56:21. > :56:25.The heavily muscled man in blue is Charles Odhiambo Okoth, the 2060

:56:26. > :56:32.Rock from Kenya but he is getting caught with some good shots by New

:56:33. > :56:38.Zealand's highly exciting 22-year-old, David Light.

:56:39. > :56:41.Zealand's highly exciting Okoth is trying to keep him at range

:56:42. > :56:44.but his work is not very accurate. He keeps on missing the target with

:56:45. > :56:49.the right hand which is why he falls into his opponent. He will walk onto

:56:50. > :56:54.another one of those left hooks if he is not careful. He has to be more

:56:55. > :56:59.accurate at long range, the Kenyan. That is his problem, he keeps

:57:00. > :57:03.falling. A little banging together of heads. Andrew Caulfield did not

:57:04. > :57:07.give a command and David Light took full advantage. A good start to the

:57:08. > :57:11.second round by the youngster, who dominated the opener. Charles

:57:12. > :57:16.Okoth, falling short. Nothing much behind the jab. He probably needs to

:57:17. > :57:24.double up a little bit. Good footwork by David Light. You can see

:57:25. > :57:28.that he is dusty holding the left-hand -- just holding the left

:57:29. > :57:52.had ominously known. -- ominously low. All the aggression is coming

:57:53. > :58:17.from one. -- from David Light. That is better boxing from Charles

:58:18. > :58:25.Okoth. One see how his man the inside, that is when he is

:58:26. > :58:27.vulnerable. The referee is just saying to watch the use of the

:58:28. > :58:45.forearm. The officials at ringside are very

:58:46. > :58:54.qualified. You can either be a judge or a referee. I think that was a

:58:55. > :59:01.better round for Charles Okoth. It will be closer. Charles Okoth has

:59:02. > :59:13.managed to keep his man at bay for longer periods. That was a swinging

:59:14. > :59:19.right by David Light, which would indicate he is beginning to get

:59:20. > :59:25.tired. He is puffing a little bit. We know that the canyons are so

:59:26. > :59:38.supremely fit. -- the athletes from Ken your -- Kenya.

:59:39. > :59:55.He didn't really land a clean shot. Definitely tiring at the end.

:59:56. > :00:02.So, David Light where he wants to be, but he is breathing pretty

:00:03. > :00:12.heavily. We will need to see what he has left. It could be that Charles

:00:13. > :00:22.Okoth picks up on the fact that his opponent is tiring. The man in blue,

:00:23. > :00:28.the heavyweight from Kenya will need to win this last round by a country

:00:29. > :00:39.mile, or stop the guy in red, the 22-year-old from Auckland, New

:00:40. > :00:43.Zealand, David Light. Definitely showing signs of fatigue at the end

:00:44. > :00:55.of the second round. Better by David Light, keeping his man must, keeping

:00:56. > :00:58.him on the back foot. Charles Okoth is boxing better, keeping his man at

:00:59. > :01:26.bay. David Light is walking onto the

:01:27. > :01:43.straight shots from Charles Okoth. Better once again by David Light.

:01:44. > :01:52.Charles Okoth is holding. This speed has dropped considerably from the

:01:53. > :01:57.first round, as you would expect. A nasty little rub of heads. David

:01:58. > :02:05.Light looks really tired. Charles Okoth is not really picking up on

:02:06. > :02:10.it. Each other's work rate. There is a bit left by David Light. He is

:02:11. > :02:21.calling up in his reserves. Good footwork by Charles Okoth. David

:02:22. > :02:33.Light just capturing his opponent. I think David Light has done enough,

:02:34. > :02:43.unless it gets ambushed. I can't believe Charles Okoth has not thrown

:02:44. > :03:02.his left hook. I think David Light is open to that. He drops his arms,

:03:03. > :03:18.he just hasn't produced it. David Light must know that he only has a

:03:19. > :03:20.minute to go and he is winning it. I think New Zealand have got

:03:21. > :03:34.themselves a men's heavyweight medal here at Glasgow at the expense of

:03:35. > :03:41.the man from Kenya, Charles Okoth. Charles Okoth looks exhausted. David

:03:42. > :03:45.Light did get tired, but Charles Okoth did not pick up on it. A very

:03:46. > :03:49.scrappy round. A couple of good jabs from David Light coming forward. He

:03:50. > :03:56.nearly walked onto one there. Dumping Charles Okoth did enough to

:03:57. > :04:01.win it, overall, I think it was a better performance from the New

:04:02. > :04:05.Zealander. All is about to be revealed. Ladies and gentlemen we

:04:06. > :04:13.have the totals. A unanimous decision. The winner, through to the

:04:14. > :04:18.semifinals, in the red corner, representing New Zealand, David

:04:19. > :04:31.Light! David Light has got it. He didn't lose a single round.

:04:32. > :04:37.New Zealand have got themselves a Commonwealth Games medal. This

:04:38. > :04:42.appointment for Kenya, who brought a strong team here. So good to see

:04:43. > :04:47.them back, contesting at the Commonwealth Games. David Light is

:04:48. > :04:55.the man who has won it. He is ecstatic.

:04:56. > :05:06.So, lots of people very happy, McGoldrick there. Samir El-Mais beat

:05:07. > :05:16.Warren Baister. Stephen Lavelle, guaranteed medal for him. So, the

:05:17. > :05:17.semifinal line-up for the bantamweight and heavyweight

:05:18. > :05:49.division. It looks like this: We have moved inside. It is a bit

:05:50. > :05:54.inclement outside, a bit of wind and rain floating around. July in

:05:55. > :06:05.Glasgow, he would have expect that? Please get in touch with us. Have a

:06:06. > :06:09.look at the website. We will be back to the women's boxing in a few

:06:10. > :06:13.moments, but let's tell you what is coming up between now and seven

:06:14. > :06:20.o'clock. Women's boxing coming up in a few minutes. A place in the

:06:21. > :06:23.semifinals for the hockey is in store between South Africa and

:06:24. > :06:30.India. We will see medals decided in the wrestling mat. And then some

:06:31. > :06:33.swashbuckling action in the table tennis. Stick around for that. Back

:06:34. > :07:08.to boxing. Quarterfinal number one. The judges

:07:09. > :07:12.at ringside are from Morocco, Korea, Belarus and Uzbekistan. For a

:07:13. > :07:17.two-minute rounds of boxing. In the red corner, representing Jamaica,

:07:18. > :07:27.Sarah Joy Rae! In the blue corner, representing

:07:28. > :08:04.Northern Ireland, Michaela Walsh. So, the referee just giving his last

:08:05. > :08:14.instructions. The flyweight quarterfinal, then. The first of a

:08:15. > :08:17.scheduled for two-minute rounds. Boxers from Jamaica and Northern

:08:18. > :08:24.Ireland. The Jamaican is wearing red. Sarah Joy Rae, 32 years of age,

:08:25. > :08:30.part of the four strong Jamaican team. Opponent, wearing blue,

:08:31. > :08:37.operating out of the orthodox stance, is Michaela Walsh. Lucy

:08:38. > :08:42.O'Connor is beside me. Michaela Walsh was dazzling in her opening

:08:43. > :08:47.bout. She had the privilege of being the first ever women's boxer to

:08:48. > :08:52.compete in the Commonwealth Games. What an opening that was. She showed

:08:53. > :08:56.great balance, great poise, impressive footwork. And lightning

:08:57. > :09:02.combinations. A tentative start here. Lots of respect being shown.

:09:03. > :09:13.Sarah Joy Rae is the taller of the two. Michaela Walsh just catching

:09:14. > :09:19.her as she moves forward. It is the first out of the competition for

:09:20. > :09:29.Sarah Joy Rae. She got a bye in her opening round. It is the first time

:09:30. > :09:35.that Sarah Joy Rae is experiencing the atmosphere here at the SECC. It

:09:36. > :09:40.could take a little bit longer to find the rhythm and timing than

:09:41. > :09:47.Michaela Walsh. That is so crucial in a boxer's repertoire. Most boxers

:09:48. > :09:52.that you speak to prepare to get into the competition early. Just to

:09:53. > :10:03.get into the rhythm, to dust off any ring rust. It is not an advantage to

:10:04. > :10:11.get the by, necessarily. There is the bell.

:10:12. > :10:19.Not a great deal in that. I think Michaela Walsh had a higher volume

:10:20. > :10:29.of shots. I think the judges might go with her. She starts and finishes

:10:30. > :10:38.the exchanges. That will catch the eye of the judges.

:10:39. > :10:58.The first round when unanimously then to Michaela Walsh. Daschle went

:10:59. > :11:09.Sarah Joy Rae is based in Switzerland. Representing Jamaica.

:11:10. > :11:17.We move into the second round. Sarah Joy Rae is wearing red, she conceded

:11:18. > :11:29.the opening rounds to the boxer wearing blue, Michaela Walsh, from

:11:30. > :11:34.Northern Ireland. As Michaela Walsh leads the attack, she is very good

:11:35. > :11:40.at getting out of range. Sarah Joy Rae has the longer range. Michaela

:11:41. > :11:46.Walsh is very nimble on her feet. She throws lots of punches, a high

:11:47. > :11:53.volume of punches, but stays nice and safe as she comes out of range.

:11:54. > :12:06.Michaela Walsh is the 14th ranked boxer in the world at weight. -- at

:12:07. > :12:13.her weight. Just three women's weight class is being contested here

:12:14. > :12:17.at the Commonwealth Games. Boxers who find themselves in between those

:12:18. > :12:24.weight categories have an invidious choice to make, whether to go up or

:12:25. > :12:25.down. Michaela Walsh decided to go down, competing here at 51

:12:26. > :12:36.kilograms. Michaela Walsh not elect them to use

:12:37. > :12:40.her reach advantage. She is either jumping in with bent arm shots were

:12:41. > :12:46.waiting far too long to lead the attack. A little bit tentative.

:12:47. > :12:49.Every time she tries to throw a punch, Michaela Walsh comes back

:12:50. > :12:57.with three or four punch combinations. Some attention is

:12:58. > :13:14.required here. Michaela Walsh using her legs to

:13:15. > :13:22.tremendous effect, staying out of trouble. J comes forward with a

:13:23. > :13:26.tremendous combination. Having conceded the opening round, I think

:13:27. > :13:35.Sarah Joy Rae conceded the opening round, I think

:13:36. > :13:38.rounds down. Desperation from Sarah Joy Rae at the end of that round,

:13:39. > :13:43.coming forward and punching the near. Michaela Walsh pounding the

:13:44. > :13:49.body and the head. Switching the attack, a very capable performance

:13:50. > :13:54.again in that second round and all three judges giving Michaela Walsh.

:13:55. > :14:25.Two rounds to go there. We are down to the final eight there

:14:26. > :14:30.in the quarterfinal stage. Immediately as the bell sounds Sarah

:14:31. > :14:35.Joy Rae is led back to her corner, just some adjustments needed to her

:14:36. > :14:47.waistband. You can see a slight nick on the bridge of her nose. We begin

:14:48. > :14:53.this round. Sarah Joy Rae has started quickly, but Michaela Walsh

:14:54. > :15:01.continuing to use her legs to evade the forward forays of the Jamaican.

:15:02. > :15:09.Despite being the taller boxer, Sarah Joy Rae is being picked off by

:15:10. > :15:12.clean potshots. There is a distinct difference in stance and balance

:15:13. > :15:18.between these boxers. Michaela Walsh has beautifully balanced report, a

:15:19. > :15:26.beautifully balanced, stable base. -- beautifully balanced footwork.

:15:27. > :15:31.The coach just adjusting the best. The rules are that the white

:15:32. > :15:38.waistband must be visible at all times -- adjusting the vest. It

:15:39. > :15:43.gives you an idea of where the phrase below the belt comes from,

:15:44. > :15:47.anything above the white waistband is there, anything below it is

:15:48. > :15:54.illegal. That is why it has to be visible. Not just the referee being

:15:55. > :16:11.overly officious, it does serve a purpose.

:16:12. > :16:23.Michaela Walsh stepping off to the side, happily to a loud Sarah Joy

:16:24. > :16:24.Rae to run into her. -- to allow. Michaela Walsh a three-time national

:16:25. > :16:47.champion. Won and national title at 57

:16:48. > :16:51.kilograms in 2013. Sarah Joy Rae is the Swiss national champion of

:16:52. > :16:56.2012. She is representing Jamaica in these Commonwealth Games.

:16:57. > :17:03.commanding round from Michaela Walsh. There is a marked difference

:17:04. > :17:06.in distinction in terms of the Walsh. There is a marked difference

:17:07. > :17:15.quality of the shops that are going in. -- shots. Sarah Joy Rae leaning

:17:16. > :17:19.quality of the shops that are going forward with her chin in the air,

:17:20. > :17:26.inviting Michaela Walsh to land those solid shots. Really fast

:17:27. > :17:39.hands, very difficult for Sarah Joy Rae to contender. -- to contender

:17:40. > :17:46.with -- to contend with. It is an uphill struggle now for Sarah Joy

:17:47. > :17:54.Rae of Jamaica. Conceded the opening three rounds. Michaela Walsh has

:17:55. > :18:04.demonstrated that she is an impressive offering general. -- ring

:18:05. > :18:12.general. Her greater experience has come to the fore. We are into the

:18:13. > :18:25.fourth and final round. Sarah Joy Rae of Jamaica. Takes a hard left

:18:26. > :18:42.hand, and another one. One was a court shoe -- corkscrew shot. I can

:18:43. > :18:49.see elements of Katie Taylor in her boxing, dare I say it. I am sure she

:18:50. > :18:59.would have been one of her role models. Lovelace Dale, relaxed and

:19:00. > :19:05.fast hands -- Lovelace style. Just increasing the distance, Sarah Joy

:19:06. > :19:13.Rae is struggling to close it effectively. Having no success, when

:19:14. > :19:18.she is trying to land a short it is inevitably where Michaela Walsh wars

:19:19. > :19:26.and not where she currently is. Huw Jones of the feet and legs from

:19:27. > :19:38.Michaela Walsh. Bash Mac -- beautiful use of. Accurate pot shots

:19:39. > :19:54.continuing to come from the globs of Michaela Walsh. --

:19:55. > :20:04.Sarah Joy Rae reduced to chasing shadows here in the boxing ring.

:20:05. > :20:11.There is the bell. Nice to see that embrace but there can be no doubt

:20:12. > :20:12.about the vector and little doubt about you has progressed -- about

:20:13. > :20:27.the vector the key to amateur boxing, it is a

:20:28. > :20:41.physical game of chess, force your opponent to miss, and capitalise on

:20:42. > :20:49.that by landing your own shots. Nice to see the mutual respect between

:20:50. > :20:52.the boxers. The winner by unanimous decision and through to the

:20:53. > :21:07.semifinal, in the blue corner, representing Northern Ireland,

:21:08. > :21:16.Michaela Walsh. Delight: among the Northern Ireland supporters. I

:21:17. > :21:20.unanimous winner over Sarah Joy Rae of Jamaica. She is receiving a warm

:21:21. > :21:24.reception from the crowd, but this woman was better in every department

:21:25. > :21:27.and that is the moment of the announcement which confirms her as a

:21:28. > :21:31.medallist in the Commonwealth Games boxing tournament, the first there

:21:32. > :21:37.has ever been in the history of the Commonwealth Games. Michaela Walsh

:21:38. > :21:45.has secured herself some medal hardware, now the question remains

:21:46. > :21:52.which colour will it be? Well done. Thank you very much. I did not know

:21:53. > :21:59.nothing about it, I had a slow start, she was very awkward, very

:22:00. > :22:04.big. If I had done what I had done in the last round I would have run

:22:05. > :22:07.it handily enough, but I am happy with my performance and I have made

:22:08. > :22:12.history by being the first ever medallist. I stuck to the task, I

:22:13. > :22:17.had to change my tactics and they could not get my punches off, but I

:22:18. > :22:23.changed the tactics and I won the fight. You fought at 54 in the

:22:24. > :22:29.Europeans, here you are at 51, is that the struggle, what have you cut

:22:30. > :22:38.out of your diet to make the wait? I'd boxed 37 last year. -- 57. It

:22:39. > :22:42.was decided I had to go up or down, I am a hard trainer so I decided to

:22:43. > :22:52.go down. I can give you my diet, that is a secret. Can't get much

:22:53. > :23:05.lower than the scan you? I might do 48 next year! That is a worry to

:23:06. > :23:07.everyone else. Thank you. Thank you. We await the introductions for the

:23:08. > :23:26.second quarterfinal. In the red corner, representing

:23:27. > :23:46.India, Pinki Rani. In the blue corner representing part

:23:47. > :23:59.New Guinea, Jacquiline Wangi A. -- Papua New Guinea. The referee is

:24:00. > :24:08.from Wales, Mr Mark Williams. REFEREE:

:24:09. > :24:13.The referee will issue the final instructions. The second

:24:14. > :24:17.quarterfinal in the women's lightweight tournament. --

:24:18. > :24:40.flyweight. The boxer winning blue from Papua

:24:41. > :24:47.New Guinea, Jacquiline Wangi, 18 years old, the national champion.

:24:48. > :24:52.The opponent is the 11th ranked boxer anyone all died 48 kilograms,

:24:53. > :24:55.hugely accomplished, and you can see from the start she has made that she

:24:56. > :25:07.knows her way around the boxing ring. That is Pinki Rani of India.

:25:08. > :25:12.Pinki Rani, to give you an idea of her ability and experience, she is

:25:13. > :25:20.the reason, as she gets another hard right cross, she is the reason why

:25:21. > :25:28.the legendary Millicom is not here representing India. She eliminated

:25:29. > :25:32.her at the Indian selection trials and that is how she secured her

:25:33. > :25:46.place. That is not a front Jacquiline Wangi. -- that is not a

:25:47. > :25:49.-- naughty. An element of frustration the front Jacquiline

:25:50. > :25:56.Wangi, she is under pressure and has been since the first bell. Pinki

:25:57. > :26:02.Rani is relentless in her pressure, not giving Jacquiline Wangi and

:26:03. > :26:12.moments rest. Combinations landing flush on the chin of Jacquiline

:26:13. > :26:16.Wangi. Pinki Rani is a wonderfully versatile and accomplished boxer.

:26:17. > :26:28.The gap in the experience is considerable. The gap in ability as

:26:29. > :26:44.well. Strong opening round for Pinki Rani.

:26:45. > :26:54.We have heard good things about Pinki Rani before she came to this

:26:55. > :27:00.competition, I think we can see why she was kept. Hardly seems to be out

:27:01. > :27:12.of breath after throwing numerous combinations. -- she was tipped.

:27:13. > :27:28.That was a bit naughty front Jacquiline Wangi. -- from.

:27:29. > :27:37.So, we move into the second round. The boxer in blue, Jacquiline

:27:38. > :27:44.Wangi, from Papua New Guinea, 28 years of age. The boxer wearing red,

:27:45. > :27:48.Pinki Rani, from India. She began the opening round in a manner in

:27:49. > :27:53.which he is demonstrating the second. Beautiful straight shots

:27:54. > :28:00.going in. She went down to the body effectively. Only a couple of

:28:01. > :28:04.punches getting through, but every time Jacquiline Wangi tries

:28:05. > :28:06.punches getting through, but every her shots away, she is paying

:28:07. > :28:10.punches getting through, but every heavy price by Pinki Rani. She is

:28:11. > :28:16.being beaten to the punch every time by Pinki Rani. Jacquiline Wangi is

:28:17. > :28:21.just think too far out of range, she is inviting Pinki Rani to capture,

:28:22. > :28:32.which he is doing, nearly every time. Beautiful, swift right hand

:28:33. > :28:42.counter by Pinki Rani. That is a howitzer upper right-hand. Pinki

:28:43. > :28:52.Rani shoves Jacquiline Wangi back to the turnbuckle. She is just allowing

:28:53. > :29:05.Pinki Rani free shots. Good rear hand thereby Jacquiline

:29:06. > :29:16.Wangi, but the reply straightaway by Pinki Rani. The variety that is on

:29:17. > :29:23.display is wonderful to behold. Assuming you are Jacquiline Wangi,

:29:24. > :29:34.that is, because she is the boxer on the receiving end of it. The bell

:29:35. > :29:39.then ends the second round. There can be little doubt as to which

:29:40. > :29:43.direction the round will be scored in. Again, it is the volume of shots

:29:44. > :29:50.that does it for Pinki Rani. Catching her at will. Hands dropping

:29:51. > :30:03.down at your hips. Another very capable round by Pinki Rani. The

:30:04. > :30:07.judges scoring it as 10-8 round. The scoring system does not resemble the

:30:08. > :30:28.professional code of boxing. So, to rounds completed, to rounds

:30:29. > :30:46.to go. Pinki Rani is putting on a

:30:47. > :30:56.masterclass here. Jacquiline Wangi is getting a boxing lesson, the

:30:57. > :31:04.boxer in blue. Pinki Rani is up on her toes, has a nice rhythm, nice

:31:05. > :31:09.balance. Jacquiline Wangi is attempting to give it a go. A good

:31:10. > :31:25.right hand by Jacquiline Wangi. Short on that occasion. Pinki Rani

:31:26. > :31:29.is demonstrating effective footwork. She has to keep urging dying, she is

:31:30. > :31:35.offering Pinki Rani free shots. She has to get her chin on her chest,

:31:36. > :31:44.get her hands up. She is making it easy for it Pinki Rani to get her

:31:45. > :31:53.shots. All too often, Pinki Rani is finding an inviting home for her

:31:54. > :31:58.shots, from the left and the right. This is the opening bout for both of

:31:59. > :32:06.these boxers. Jacquiline Wangi wasn't really paying attention

:32:07. > :32:11.there. Again, for the second time during the course of the bites,

:32:12. > :32:17.Jacquiline Wangi is not heeding the instructions from the referee.

:32:18. > :32:23.Helping herself to every shot. Maybe she didn't hear the instructions. I

:32:24. > :32:36.think it is frustration. She is struggling to land many shots. Pure

:32:37. > :32:43.frustration, I think. It is the opening bout for both of these

:32:44. > :32:46.boxers here at the tournament. Pinki Rani has just settled into her

:32:47. > :32:53.rhythm instantly. Jacquiline Wangi has not been allowed to settle into

:32:54. > :32:59.her rhythm. Looking at Pinki Rani in the corner, she doesn't look out of

:33:00. > :33:09.breath, regardless of the fact she has hardly stopped throwing her

:33:10. > :33:16.punches. Another hugely decisive round for the Indian boxer. Looking

:33:17. > :33:28.as comfortable and composed as could possibly be. It is all one-way

:33:29. > :33:36.traffic in favour of Pinki Rani. Into the fourth and final round. The

:33:37. > :33:40.boxer wearing red, Pinki Rani... A standing count. The

:33:41. > :33:44.boxer wearing red, Pinki Rani... A aggression and clean punching is

:33:45. > :33:49.coming from the boxer in red, Pinki Rani. A standing count administered

:33:50. > :33:55.against Jacquiline Wangi. The hard shots continued to thunder home,

:33:56. > :34:03.particularly from the right hand of Pinki Rani. Is she going for a

:34:04. > :34:11.stoppage? Jacquiline Wangi is taking lots of risks. Her defence is so

:34:12. > :34:16.low. When your opponent has such a high work rate, you need to hold

:34:17. > :34:22.your hands up to protect yourself. The right hand driven in by

:34:23. > :34:34.Jacquiline Wangi, but immediately countered by a left over the top

:34:35. > :34:39.from Pinki Rani. Jacquiline Wangi, two-time national champion of Papua

:34:40. > :34:43.New Guinea, but the 18-year-old is really struggling to stay at the

:34:44. > :34:54.races with Pinki Rani, the 24-year-old from India. The boxers

:34:55. > :34:58.are exchanging right hands. Another hard right from Jacquiline Wangi.

:34:59. > :35:05.She is looking for single shot success. Right contour -- a right

:35:06. > :35:29.counterattack by Pinki Rani. We are approaching the conclusion. A

:35:30. > :35:33.jolting left from Pinki Rani. No doubt about who won the contest.

:35:34. > :35:42.Pinki Rani raises her arm immediately. She returns to her

:35:43. > :35:50.corner. Certainly, she is victorious. You have to credit the

:35:51. > :36:01.courage of Jacquiline Wangi, she never give up. Hugely proficient

:36:02. > :36:08.performance by the Indian boxer. Incredible angles, incredible

:36:09. > :36:15.defences. One to watch in this competition, Pinki Rani from India.

:36:16. > :36:24.The right arm went up immediately from Pinki Rani. Now, the formality

:36:25. > :36:31.of the verdict. A unanimous decision in favour of the winner, true to the

:36:32. > :36:41.semifinals, in the red corner, representing India, Pinki Rani. So,

:36:42. > :36:50.the opening bites and opening deck jury for Pinki Rani. It is enough to

:36:51. > :36:59.secure her place on the podium. She is three to the medal stages.

:37:21. > :37:54.it, across the BBC. Making their way towards the ring

:37:55. > :38:07.here at the SECC. Canada's Mandy Bujold. 27 years of age. There is

:38:08. > :38:13.her opponent, Kristy Harris from Australia. So, Mandy Bujold from

:38:14. > :38:18.Canada wearing red, Kristy Harris of this wearing blue. Kristy Harris

:38:19. > :38:27.boxing in her second bite of the Commonwealth Games. She was hugely

:38:28. > :38:36.impressive in her opener. Mandy Bujold, cheap. Buy into this round.

:38:37. > :38:39.Let's get official introductions. Quarterfinal number three in the

:38:40. > :38:52.woman's flyweight, 48 kilograms to 51 kilograms competition. It is for

:38:53. > :38:53.a two-minute rounds of boxing. Boxing out of the red corner,

:38:54. > :39:06.representing Canada, Mandy Bujold! In the blue corner, representing

:39:07. > :39:25.Australia, Kristy Harris! So, a final check of the equipment.

:39:26. > :39:34.Kristy Harris in the blue corner. A handshake with the coaches. The

:39:35. > :39:48.referee issues the final pre-fight instructions.

:39:49. > :39:56.So, the opening bell sounds. The flyweight quarterfinal between the

:39:57. > :40:05.boxer wearing red, Mandy Bujold, 27 years of age. Her opponent, from

:40:06. > :40:11.Canada, 21-year-olds... Sorry, from Australia, wearing blue, from

:40:12. > :40:31.Australia, Kristy Harris. Two quality operators.

:40:32. > :40:42.Just a bit of fencing between the two boxers. As they clash, they are

:40:43. > :40:49.both touring combinations, quick hands. Mandy Bujold just staying out

:40:50. > :40:53.of range nicely. Coming back with your own counterattacks. Kristy

:40:54. > :40:59.Harris, good footwork, keeping out of range. Not a lock to choose

:41:00. > :41:20.between them. -- a lot. Five successive national titles for

:41:21. > :41:31.Mandy Bujold. So, Kristy Harris from Australia is

:41:32. > :41:52.on the front foot. Both boxers are having moments of

:41:53. > :41:59.success. Not a great deal to choose between them in the first round.

:42:00. > :42:11.Both boxers are waiting for each other to lead. Both throwing furious

:42:12. > :42:15.combinations. Mandy Bujold just capturing Kristy Harris there on the

:42:16. > :42:20.inside. Both of them fighting for the centre of the ring. Neither one

:42:21. > :42:27.of them was dominant. Let's see what the judges have to say. All three of

:42:28. > :42:35.them have favoured Mandy Bujold. So, the opening round gone in unanimous

:42:36. > :42:46.fashion to this boxer from Canada. It was keenly contested, make no

:42:47. > :42:59.mistake. So, Kristy Harris, maybe a slight tactical adjustment.

:43:00. > :43:07.Kristy Harris, occupying the centre of the ring, trying to get Mandy

:43:08. > :43:22.Bujold to the ropes. Good angles thereby the experienced Canadian.

:43:23. > :43:30.Both boxers very capable. Mandy Bujold just going to allow harass to

:43:31. > :43:47.come in so she can capture on the counter. -- catch her.

:43:48. > :44:07.looking to catch Kirsty Harris on the counter and move away into this

:44:08. > :44:16.base. Beautiful combination there. -- into the space. Three-time

:44:17. > :44:28.participant in the World Championships is Mandy Bujold.

:44:29. > :44:36.Beautiful left hand on that occasion from Mandy Bujold.

:44:37. > :44:47.Harris, to be fair, not respecting the experience, she is giving it a

:44:48. > :44:58.good going, attempting to push Mandy Bujold back onto the ropes and

:44:59. > :45:05.attempt her own combinations. Harris is committed, continues to give it a

:45:06. > :45:17.go. For my money it is Mandy Bujold that took that around. -- round.

:45:18. > :45:21.Lovely left hook, then just skips off to the left out of range,

:45:22. > :45:33.conscious not to be kept on the ropes. All three judges once again

:45:34. > :45:40.favouring the Canadian. They will be happy in that corner. Opening bout

:45:41. > :45:50.of the tournament for Mandy Bujold and she has found her rhythm

:45:51. > :46:00.instantly. We move into the second half of this 51 kilograms flyweight

:46:01. > :46:06.quarterfinal. The boxer in red, Mandy Bujold of Canada, has taken

:46:07. > :46:14.the opening two rounds in unanimous fashion. Just going to the left,

:46:15. > :46:29.always staying out of punching range. Kirsty Harris struggling to

:46:30. > :46:52.get any clean, successful fence attacks.

:46:53. > :46:56.Stopped in her tracks and through a good right hand to the solar plexus.

:46:57. > :47:18.-- thrown. Mandy Bujold continuing to box

:47:19. > :47:21.really effectively on the defensive. Given she has taken the opening two

:47:22. > :47:29.rounds there is no need to change our tactics. She's having a fair

:47:30. > :47:34.amount of success as she engages Mandy Bujold in success, but overall

:47:35. > :47:41.the quality is coming from the boxer on the back foot. Good tactics from

:47:42. > :47:52.the Canadian, not allowing Kirsty Harris to set her feet. Another good

:47:53. > :47:57.round by Mandy Bujold. Three rounds down, Kirsty Harris the talented

:47:58. > :48:11.21-year-old really up against it. Some exchanges there, Kirsty Harris

:48:12. > :48:17.getting through with her own shots, slightly more shots in that round,

:48:18. > :48:33.but once again all three judges favouring Mandy Bujold. One win away

:48:34. > :48:47.from the place on the medal rostrum.

:48:48. > :48:54.Moving into the final round, the boxer in blue is Kirsty Harris of

:48:55. > :48:59.Australia, she has conceded all three rounds so far in unanimous

:49:00. > :49:04.fashion to the boxer in red, Mandy Bujold of Canada. Very skilful

:49:05. > :49:09.boxer, Kirsty Harris, but she is meeting at hugely skilled and

:49:10. > :49:23.experienced and accomplished at the Surrey. -- opponent. Kirsty Harris

:49:24. > :49:28.has had her moments of success but they have been overshadowed by a

:49:29. > :49:41.greater volume of cleaner shots from the boxer in red. Kirsty

:49:42. > :49:57.as she comes off she comes off with combinations, but -- Mandy Bujold.

:49:58. > :50:02.Right hand to the body followed by a right hand to the head from Mandy

:50:03. > :50:13.Bujold. Kirsty Harris remaining in hot pursuit. Two shots to the body

:50:14. > :50:20.and then a left hook to the head, Harris having moments of her own

:50:21. > :50:26.success but generally Mandy Bujold having the first and final word in

:50:27. > :50:32.any exchange. Harris is giving it everything she has got to try and

:50:33. > :50:37.close down the elusive Canadian. She just needs to continue pushing Mandy

:50:38. > :50:42.Bujold back to the ropes, try to cut her off, when she gets the

:50:43. > :50:56.opportunity to land the combinations. Our furious exchange

:50:57. > :51:00.to conclude the contest. One suspects she has secured her passage

:51:01. > :51:04.through to the semifinal stage at the expense of Kirsty Harris of

:51:05. > :51:11.Australia. Fully committed performance however. Demonstrated

:51:12. > :51:17.the skill that she has, but not enough to overcome that possessed by

:51:18. > :51:23.the Canadian. That was a good bout to watch, good technique by both

:51:24. > :51:32.boxers. Nice defences, nice combinations. But Mandy Bujold used

:51:33. > :51:42.her experience to fill effect and I think secures the victory. The

:51:43. > :51:46.judges scorecards, the winner by unanimous decision and now through

:51:47. > :51:55.to the semifinal, in the red corner, from Canada, Mandy Bujold. The

:51:56. > :51:58.Canadian through to the semifinal with an impressive performance over

:51:59. > :52:10.the talented 21-year-old from Australia, Kirsty Harris.

:52:11. > :52:20.Acknowledges the crowd and leaves the boxing ring ahead of the

:52:21. > :52:26.semifinal. Congratulations to Mandy Bujold, now we have three of the

:52:27. > :52:32.semifinalists, who will be the fourth? Nicola Adams is coming to

:52:33. > :52:36.the ring pretty soon, John Enderby Dell -- John Inverdale is there, I

:52:37. > :52:42.imagine the roof will come off when Nicola Adams comes into the ring?

:52:43. > :52:46.Absolutely correct, it is strange, in the same way that Paralympic

:52:47. > :52:51.events were introduced into the regular programme here, it seems so

:52:52. > :52:56.normal, why was it not always like that, it is strange, within a few

:52:57. > :53:00.days of having the women's boxing events Inc operated into the men's

:53:01. > :53:05.programme it is a case of why was it such a big deal in the first place?

:53:06. > :53:09.One of the things which has allowed that to happen so quickly is Nicola

:53:10. > :53:14.Adams. It has gone very quiet. They are building the tension because she

:53:15. > :53:19.not quite single-handedly but she has been, there is a real tease on

:53:20. > :53:23.the tannoy here who is keeping the tension going but this is the

:53:24. > :53:38.build-up to Nicola Adams coming in. Nicola Adams has become such a big

:53:39. > :53:42.draw, she is the single biggest draw in the women's competition, you can

:53:43. > :53:53.see a standing ovation from a lot of people in this auditorium. We had a

:53:54. > :54:00.half empty auditorium for her first round, but today it is packed. There

:54:01. > :54:08.is a real anticipation of seeing the Olympic champion, she has only lost

:54:09. > :54:13.one fight in the two years. You would expect her to win this fairly

:54:14. > :54:21.emphatically. Everyone is looking for a tremendous exhibition.

:54:22. > :54:29.The familiar figure of Nicola Adams I know it in the cloud --

:54:30. > :54:54.acknowledging the crowd. Her opponent from Sri Lanka.

:54:55. > :55:04.Ladies and gentlemen, time to meet the boxers. In the red corner,

:55:05. > :55:16.representing England's, Nicola Adams.

:55:17. > :55:20.And I crossed the boxing ring in the blue corner, representing Sri Lanka

:55:21. > :55:44.Erandi De Silva R. The referee is from Denmark. Four

:55:45. > :55:55.two minute rounds. Nicola Adams now switches on to the business of this

:55:56. > :55:57.51 kilograms flyweight quarterfinal. This is the first of a scheduled

:55:58. > :56:31.four two minute rounds. Three-time runner-up at the National

:56:32. > :56:36.Championships, Erandi De Silva. She is certainly giving it a go, she is

:56:37. > :56:44.taking it to Adams, but at the moment Adam is that little bit

:56:45. > :56:51.sharper. Not allowing Erandi De Silva to settle. Perpetual motion

:56:52. > :57:01.again. The right hand from Erandi De Silva. Scoring with snaking straight

:57:02. > :57:18.shots. Good left hand to the body before falling into a clinch.

:57:19. > :57:25.strong piston-like shots. That jab is so long and snaking, it is so

:57:26. > :57:31.deceptively long. You think she is out of range and she catches you

:57:32. > :57:40.with that jab every time. The left hook got through from Da Silva.

:57:41. > :57:48.They're being instructed to break. What a left hand from Nicola Adams!

:57:49. > :57:54.Da Silva sent to the canvas, courtesy of a gunshot of a left hook

:57:55. > :57:59.from Nicola Adams just before the bell. There are those piston shots

:58:00. > :58:06.there. She can punch, this girl, my goodness, she is so strong. Da Silva

:58:07. > :58:17.has found herself a lit p trip to the -- little trip to the canvas. It

:58:18. > :58:28.was the left hand, the final shot of a three-punch combination. The final

:58:29. > :58:33.left hand right on the button. She took a count for her troubles just

:58:34. > :58:43.as the bell sounded to conclude round one. Well two judges scoring

:58:44. > :58:47.it 10-8 in favour of Adams and third scoring it 10-9. But a very decisive

:58:48. > :58:56.opening round by the young lady from England.

:58:57. > :59:04.We move into the second round. Terrific atmosphere here at the

:59:05. > :59:07.SECC. Nicola Adams took the opening round in decisive fashion. Ending it

:59:08. > :59:33.by dropping de Silva from Sri Lanka. Such Rithen by Nicola Adams and

:59:34. > :59:41.still by one of her first coaches, whose main focus is footwork and she

:59:42. > :59:46.has benefitted from that throughout her career. She allows de Silva to

:59:47. > :59:54.miss and then hits her with the counter shot.

:59:55. > :00:40.Again good use of the feet. De Silva did have her moments of success in

:00:41. > :01:26.the previous exchange. We are approaching the final 30 seconds.

:01:27. > :01:28.Such strong shots. The left jab is a really jolting weapon

:01:29. > :01:31.The screw shot snapping the head back of de Silva. Excellent

:01:32. > :01:39.combinations. That is why she is an Olympic champion. All the judges

:01:40. > :01:40.going for Nicola Adams. No trip to the canvas by de Silva during that

:01:41. > :01:57.second round. We move into the second half of this

:01:58. > :02:07.fly weight quarter-final. A place and a medal podium is the place that

:02:08. > :02:12.awaits the victor and Adams is in control. She floored de Silva in the

:02:13. > :02:27.first round. She is now turning southpaw. So capable, Nicola Adams,

:02:28. > :02:38.she can box just as easily ot southpaw or orthodox stance. She

:02:39. > :03:08.uses it to great effect and confuses her opponent. Now she tastes blood

:03:09. > :03:52.and shes going to keep her there on the ropes. De Silva keen to initiate

:03:53. > :04:23.a clinch. Because that shot sent her staggering back. She wants some

:04:24. > :04:54.respite from the precise punching from Nicola Adams. De Silva is still

:04:55. > :05:05.throwing back. She is still attempting to throw the shots to

:05:06. > :05:15.Nicola. Nicola Adams, not sure what that Sri Lankan corner can say to

:05:16. > :05:19.turn the tie. She has found her rift m in this bout. Expect de Silva to

:05:20. > :05:24.come out charging hard in the fourth and final round. She has conceded

:05:25. > :05:28.each of the opening three rounts. The punching power can be a great

:05:29. > :05:30.deterrent. Nicola Adams with accurate precise punching. De Silva

:05:31. > :05:33.on to the back foot after that initial foreray. She was shooting

:05:34. > :05:40.from the belt line on that occasion. Again hot shot success from the left

:05:41. > :05:56.hand of Nicola Adams. Now she has switched back to orthodox. Adams

:05:57. > :06:00.upping the tempo as she pushes her opponent back. De Silva hanging on.

:06:01. > :06:10.Nicola finishing the combination and giving her plenty of space back sboo

:06:11. > :06:17.the centre of the ring. -- into the centre of the ring. Adams got

:06:18. > :06:24.through a with a corking right hand and the head of de Silva went side

:06:25. > :06:33.ways. She is now covering up. She has been put under increased and

:06:34. > :06:43.sustained pressure from Adams. She now switches back to the orthodox

:06:44. > :06:47.stance. She could have kept the pressure on. But she knows she has

:06:48. > :06:55.done enough. Wow! Another incredible jab. Heading the head of de Silva

:06:56. > :07:05.back. The shuffle from Adams. She gets on her bike and concludes the

:07:06. > :07:14.contest out of punching range of de Silva and Nicola Adams just drinking

:07:15. > :07:19.up the applause and encouragement from the crowd. Congratulations from

:07:20. > :07:22.the Sri Lanka can's corner. Nicola Adams has surely just secured her

:07:23. > :07:30.place in the medal stage of the Commonwealth Games. That was a off

:07:31. > :07:34.with display. De Silva continued to compete until the final bell. But

:07:35. > :07:38.the variety from Adams, shots from every angle, both body and head.

:07:39. > :07:40.Look at that for a snaking cork screw left and then two punches

:07:41. > :07:47.followed it from the left and right. Nothing short of a boxing lesson

:07:48. > :07:52.there from Nicola Adams. Incredible punches and resourcefulness she

:07:53. > :07:58.showed. Incredible footwork. Another excellent performance from Nicola

:07:59. > :08:05.Adams. Please show your appreciation for both boxers in the rick -- ring.

:08:06. > :08:14.The win bier a unanimous decision and through the semi final - in the

:08:15. > :08:22.red corner from England... The golden girl, Nicola Adams, MBE!

:08:23. > :08:26.Nicola Adams receives a standing ovation from the crowd at the SECC.

:08:27. > :08:32.She has guaranteed herself a Commonwealth Games medal. What

:08:33. > :08:36.colour will it be? Will it be the English national anthem playing on

:08:37. > :08:41.medal day? She has already booked a place in the final four. There will

:08:42. > :08:45.be a medal of some description. But the boxer from Leeds will be aiming

:08:46. > :08:50.for nothing less than gold in the fly weight decision. That is the

:08:51. > :08:56.moment it was confirmed and a bow to all sides of the arena. And now the

:08:57. > :09:03.familiar celebration, acknowledging that she is through to the medal

:09:04. > :09:12.stages of Commonwealth Games with a punch-perfect display against Errani

:09:13. > :09:17.de Silva from Sri Lanka. Vail the best people in all sports make it

:09:18. > :09:23.look easy. You make boxing look so easy. It is because I love the

:09:24. > :09:28.sport. I have a passion for it and I love every -- everything about it. I

:09:29. > :09:33.have the skill and speed. It is beautiful. I felt I was watching

:09:34. > :09:38.Bolt, when he is on the track, it is not just about running, it is about

:09:39. > :09:48.entertain, how important is that to you? Yes, I love to entertain the

:09:49. > :09:52.crowd. And you have the medal. Yes and creating history all the time.

:09:53. > :09:55.It almost feels, we keep saying it is the first time women have been in

:09:56. > :10:01.the Commonwealth Games boxing, but it feels like that is almost history

:10:02. > :10:06.already, that you're established. Is that how you feel after two fights?

:10:07. > :10:12.Yes I feel women's boxing has moved on since 2012 and this is just the

:10:13. > :10:26.beginning. Well done. See you in a couple of days. Thank you. Who would

:10:27. > :10:29.bet against Nicola Adams taking another medal. Boxing continues on

:10:30. > :10:34.the red button. But here we have still got live hockey and wrestling

:10:35. > :10:37.and table tennis before 7 o'clock. But before that, let's take an

:10:38. > :10:46.update of the news. And it's about time

:10:47. > :11:36.that I did something about that. Back to Glasgow after an update.

:11:37. > :11:42.This man was shot by police in 2005, today a former officer is to be

:11:43. > :11:44.charged with his murder. One of the word's deadliest virus is a danger

:11:45. > :12:00.to the UK. A disgraceful act - that is what the UN called the shelling

:12:01. > :12:09.of a school in Gaza. Israel denies targeting schools. Usain Bolt has

:12:10. > :12:16.rubbished a story that he has Royal he rubbished the Commonwealth Games.

:12:17. > :12:23.And now back to Dougy in Glasgow. Yeah, I am looking for

:12:24. > :12:25.a Prince Charming. I don't think I'm ugly, but I don't

:12:26. > :12:29.think I'm, like, really pretty. I say, "You've got something

:12:30. > :13:33.on your bum." "Really?" And I say, And welcome back to our coverage of

:13:34. > :13:42.Glasgow 2014. The boxing continues on the website. Now on BBC Three, it

:13:43. > :13:47.is crunch time in the women's hockey. One team still to go

:13:48. > :13:55.through. Either South Africa or India. One will go through, one will

:13:56. > :14:00.go home. This kicked off 15 minutes ago. Let's join the commentary live

:14:01. > :14:02.from the National hockey Centre at Glasgow Rob Green to see how this

:14:03. > :14:19.pans out. COMMENTATOR: It came off the stick

:14:20. > :14:34.of the Indian defender. It cost them. Putting it quickly into the

:14:35. > :14:55.circle. On the sideline. Keep going. She doesn't understand. It is close

:14:56. > :15:19.enough, I guess. Cox off-loads to blanch. It is breaking down, the

:15:20. > :15:25.tackling of India is very good. The skill level is so high. South Africa

:15:26. > :15:28.are trying to get their free running going but India are very good at

:15:29. > :16:00.breaking down the first phase of play. A dream card. -- Rob

:16:01. > :16:15.Russell finds Damon. And they clash. Just a clash. Damon just getting

:16:16. > :16:47.flawed. -- floored Full. That is a lovely ball. If you can

:16:48. > :16:56.deliver a bouncing ball into the circle, it is really difficult for

:16:57. > :17:08.the defenders. Bright from the baseline. Waiting for South Africa.

:17:09. > :17:23.It is deep and it is bright and she scores. Perfect execution from South

:17:24. > :17:26.Africa. A beautiful little move. Completely exposes the Indian

:17:27. > :17:37.defence. The goalkeeper comes quite higher. It leaves a big hole at the

:17:38. > :17:41.back. An easy goal. That is where South Africa exploited New Zealand

:17:42. > :17:51.although New Zealand took that match 2-1. Bright again at the exposed

:17:52. > :18:16.post. 1-0 South Africa, 15 minutes gone in the first half. What will be

:18:17. > :18:33.the reply? It was an expensive green card. When India had ten men, they

:18:34. > :18:39.shipped a goal. Evans. The shot into the circle is now exited. Six Indian

:18:40. > :19:02.players surrounding the lone ball-carrier. Straight through, one

:19:03. > :19:11.hand. Here please. In line with where it hit your foot. Into free

:19:12. > :19:22.territory. Good option out of defence. India are backpedalling. A

:19:23. > :19:31.really good option, putting the ball into the space on the underside of

:19:32. > :20:07.the circle. This is the end result. Pressure back on India after getting

:20:08. > :20:19.that goal. Cox, the captain. Now Bright. Russell inside. A chance.

:20:20. > :20:27.Speculating. The goalkeeper comes off her line three steps and saves.

:20:28. > :20:41.A bit of skill, getting that shot away quickly. Bright into the

:20:42. > :20:59.circle. Another shot at goal and a great save. The ball firmly blunted

:21:00. > :21:05.out. A terrible area of the park. Just trying to draw a foul. Cleverly

:21:06. > :21:13.done. Not the prettiest bit of hockey you are ever going to see but

:21:14. > :21:20.effective. I think the difference is the experience of these teams. South

:21:21. > :21:25.Africa is hugely experienced. Average age 25. Against a team whose

:21:26. > :21:44.average age is 21 and haven't played too much together. Shot at goal.

:21:45. > :21:52.Russell, it was. It is a bit like the Pan-American games. Although

:21:53. > :21:59.they have got all of the skills, at the moment, South Africa's physical

:22:00. > :22:07.presence in their face is causing them all sorts of trouble. He looks

:22:08. > :22:16.pretty calm. A wonderful lead for his side. The thing about India is

:22:17. > :22:20.that they can turn the screw just like that. They have players that

:22:21. > :22:32.can unlock the defence just like that. A little movement up the right

:22:33. > :22:57.flank. Towards the circle now. A free hit. Bright is social. -- so

:22:58. > :23:02.strong. Bright picks up the rebound. From deep defence, India cleverly

:23:03. > :23:16.through the midfield. A lunge tackle from Cox. And again. Misdirected.

:23:17. > :23:31.Gets the foot. The skipper off-loads. Looking for a foot,

:23:32. > :23:47.maybe. Penalty corner. What a lovely bit of skill, that was. Rumpole does

:23:48. > :23:54.a little move forward. Just jumped too late.

:23:55. > :24:17.South Africa ready to face what India will put in here. Irani the

:24:18. > :24:34.captain ready to inject now. Number 23 does the job for South Africa

:24:35. > :24:39.covering the shot. Gets the free hit. They want it inside because you

:24:40. > :24:44.cannot direct its rate into the circle. It has to be on the spot.

:24:45. > :25:01.Outside the 25, you can do what you'll credit. That is why they were

:25:02. > :25:19.so keen. This is a card. Stopping forward momentum. Two minutes. That

:25:20. > :25:29.is the second green card for India. Here is another one. That is going

:25:30. > :25:35.to be serious. It is fair enough. They have been warned. India are now

:25:36. > :25:39.playing with nine players. They surge through. Can they take

:25:40. > :25:48.advantage of an India side with just nine players on the pitch? You are

:25:49. > :25:54.not going to do it like that by trying to juggle through what is

:25:55. > :25:57.left of the India team. It is a question of drawing them into one

:25:58. > :26:05.area and then a quick transfer to get in the space behind. Look at

:26:06. > :26:15.that. Great eye. And the expert cross. She is having a fine game but

:26:16. > :26:26.put it onto the stick side of the Indian defender. Look at the five

:26:27. > :26:34.South African players around the ball-carrier. Even though India have

:26:35. > :26:40.nine men, they have pushed four of them up the pitch. Looking for

:26:41. > :26:44.something. They don't want to get too stretched. Otherwise, it will

:26:45. > :26:47.allow South Africa on the counterattack.

:26:48. > :26:51.too stretched. Otherwise, it will allow South Africa on the South

:26:52. > :27:23.Africa really need this out quickly. They do not want to delay. Just a

:27:24. > :27:35.miscommunication. Steelen by No 3 Evans. And a chance to mount an

:27:36. > :27:40.attack from here for India. There is little bits of skill they couldn't

:27:41. > :27:47.make the most of. The Indians are so close around their feet. Those close

:27:48. > :27:52.skills around the D. The best way to play India is to run them around and

:27:53. > :27:59.pull them out of position and go into the other spaces. Mayne doesn't

:28:00. > :28:05.make any progress. The whistle goes. She is a tough mayer, who plays at

:28:06. > :28:11.my club in Canterbury last season, or did for a while. She is a real

:28:12. > :28:20.scrapper. India working in pairs down the right flank. They have not

:28:21. > :28:35.been allowed to enter that South African circle yet.

:28:36. > :28:43.They have been in that circle, that one personality corner of course.

:28:44. > :28:55.And personalest penalty corner. They want a referral, South Africa, do

:28:56. > :28:59.they? I can refer it if you want. But you need to tell me quickly. I

:29:00. > :29:02.don't think they will. It is interesting that India managed to

:29:03. > :29:05.force that. They have one player down. They had two players down and

:29:06. > :29:09.they were still attacking with nine players. It shows the skill and

:29:10. > :29:14.confidence they have in their game and I think they have only got one

:29:15. > :29:25.game really. So India, well, this is it. That tackle there on to the

:29:26. > :29:36.foot. Rani there. It takes the runner! And it is another corner.

:29:37. > :29:48.They know they have got to get down. Minz is down. They're running down

:29:49. > :29:53.the line. I think that hit her just above the shin pad on the knee. I

:29:54. > :29:59.think it was knee. Here - so I would say that might probably get

:30:00. > :30:04.overturned. Above the knee is deemed as dangerous. She got close. Below

:30:05. > :30:12.the knee will be another corner. REFEREE: We are saying it is too

:30:13. > :30:16.high? That is fair enough. It is who can get out there fast enough to

:30:17. > :30:22.make it dangerous. But at what price. Indeed. It is brave running

:30:23. > :30:28.out. Brave running out. If that hit her on the knee bone, it is just

:30:29. > :30:37.below the knee cap on that area that we know hurt like... And gives you a

:30:38. > :30:39.dead leg for a while. If it puts fluid into the knee, the knee

:30:40. > :30:53.becomes unstable and it is difficult to run on. She is a speed merchant,

:30:54. > :30:58.Minz and she is really quick over two metres. It is not good to see

:30:59. > :31:06.the pain on her face. Nine minutes left in the half. A A crucial match

:31:07. > :31:27.in pool A. Again they surge forward. Mayne the opportunist.

:31:28. > :31:34.Mayne is scrapping for every bit of possession. Look at this - waiting

:31:35. > :31:39.for the whistle. A dangerous game. Always play until the whistle blows.

:31:40. > :31:45.That is what we were fought and everybody would know the first time

:31:46. > :31:47.you relax, you get done. This time it is Bright who intercepts in the

:31:48. > :32:11.middle of the pitch. I think the options were closed down

:32:12. > :32:24.then. She had two forwards waiting. They have got their full compliment

:32:25. > :32:32.back. It used to be the magic sponge and now it is the magic bag of ice.

:32:33. > :32:33.back. It used to be the magic sponge Chamberlain is a goal scorer for

:32:34. > :32:56.Australia. keeps the ball in play and catches a

:32:57. > :33:03.South African stick. Well a South African and an Indian stick and a

:33:04. > :33:10.penalty. Russell is always in the danger area and gets herself a

:33:11. > :33:17.penalty corner. A bit of a soft one from India. Just holding the stick

:33:18. > :33:27.out. Because it was slanted towards, like an LBZ style, it just caught

:33:28. > :33:31.the top edge. Bright to inject from the base. Will they use the same

:33:32. > :33:37.option that they have already scored from? Yes they will. Terblanche

:33:38. > :33:44.coming in and it didn't catch anything and goes over the back

:33:45. > :33:49.line. Bright wasn't expecting that. But a different move, a low shot in

:33:50. > :33:55.and look at that cross. Bright Wurz standing up there. If she has been

:33:56. > :34:03.-- was standing up there, if she had been done. She is a very tall

:34:04. > :34:06.athlete, Bright, it says she is five foot eight, but I think she is much

:34:07. > :34:50.taufler than that. Those are the balls you have to

:34:51. > :34:58.watch. India trying to conjure up something special. They're moving

:34:59. > :35:02.that ball around, India. And they certainly commit players to attack.

:35:03. > :35:21.Seven of that you are out field players are in and around that D.

:35:22. > :35:35.Rani has the ball for India. Into the circle and a big clunk - double

:35:36. > :35:40.stick. Took the quick free hit and the South African defence hadn't

:35:41. > :35:45.retreated five yards. That is why the penalty conner was awarded. You

:35:46. > :35:50.have got to retreat and if you're within five metres, you can't play

:35:51. > :36:01.it until you're within five metres. So good pressure there by India.

:36:02. > :36:13.Thokchom to inject from the baseline for India.

:36:14. > :36:25.Excellent work at the back from Marais and South Africa are on

:36:26. > :36:29.attack already. Touch as go as that was hitting head height. Three and a

:36:30. > :37:08.half minutes left in the A slide in there and a free hit to

:37:09. > :37:13.the defence. India are so good at those little one/twos around

:37:14. > :37:19.defenders. It is something they practice a lot. They love running

:37:20. > :37:23.with the ball together. Terblanche is so strong down that right side.

:37:24. > :37:50.Knows her position inside out. Now Davids had the right idea, but

:37:51. > :37:54.could not be dragged in by Taylor. Sometimes with the Indian defence,

:37:55. > :37:58.they get out of position. Especially when they throw so many bodies

:37:59. > :38:00.forward. South Africa managed to find a great ball into midfield and

:38:01. > :38:23.then into the corner. Intercepted by Cox and just a bit

:38:24. > :38:42.too much on it. They have an opportunity have India.

:38:43. > :38:48.Look at the deft stick work and a stroke. What will South Africa's

:38:49. > :38:55.reply? They're walking away. REFEREE: You have got 20 seconds do

:38:56. > :39:00.you want to refer. Are you happy to refer. What a great piece of skill

:39:01. > :39:05.to get up to that position. REFEREE: Can you hear me? Yes. South Africa

:39:06. > :39:10.are saying she missed the ball before the stick tackle. I'm saying

:39:11. > :39:16.the stick tackle caused her to miss the ball. Can you have a look. A

:39:17. > :39:21.lovely bit of skill here. Well, that is an interesting one. Because I

:39:22. > :39:26.think the South African stick, the corner was for taking the stick

:39:27. > :39:31.here, just going over the ball and taking the stick. Was Cox's stick in

:39:32. > :39:36.front of the ball when the Indian player tried to take it snt in which

:39:37. > :39:42.case that is a penalty corner or a stroke at least. I have a decision

:39:43. > :39:50.there is no clear reason to change your decision. Stick with the

:39:51. > :40:03.penalty stroke. So Katariya has created a bit of magic for India and

:40:04. > :40:18.a stroke has been awarded. Jaspreet Kaur faces the keeper. : And in it

:40:19. > :40:22.goes - easy as. 1-1. Game on! Superbly executed. They're happy

:40:23. > :40:27.with that. Jaspreet Kaur. A lovely penalty stroke. You wouldn't want

:40:28. > :40:32.for much more than that. Great positioning. In the roof of the net.

:40:33. > :40:36.Not even in the back. Fantastic confidence from the 18-year-old

:40:37. > :40:43.penalty corner striker. Getting her sixth goal of the tournament. So

:40:44. > :41:25.efficient. And seems to signal we're back in the game.

:41:26. > :41:30.Africa? Just as India put the equaliser in, Chamberlain pops

:41:31. > :41:37.another one in and the South African coach smiles once more. Great work

:41:38. > :41:44.from Cox initially. Puts the ball in that danger area and well worked.

:41:45. > :41:51.Chamberlain, well, she gets number seven for her at this tournament.

:41:52. > :41:56.Well just about right on the hooter. That second South African goal. And

:41:57. > :41:59.as promised right at the beginning, it was always going to be a

:42:00. > :42:08.as promised right at the beginning, affair. Contrasting styles between

:42:09. > :42:14.these two pool A-Teams. And Davids has done a power of work and South

:42:15. > :42:32.Africa go to the break, they're 2-1 ahead of India. We will be back for

:42:33. > :42:45.live coverage of that match. Don't go anywhere. We are here at the

:42:46. > :42:50.quay. People are having ice cream and Coffey but we are going to

:42:51. > :43:04.change direction and turn our attention to wrestling. This is a

:43:05. > :43:08.guide to everything grappling. Wrestling was one of just four

:43:09. > :43:14.sports contested at the first Commonwealth Games. It is a classic

:43:15. > :43:22.contest between two athletes seeking dominance between grapples and

:43:23. > :43:27.pools, pins and throws. Men and in all weight categories in freestyle

:43:28. > :43:32.events. Wrestlers are allowed to use their legs for gripping and they can

:43:33. > :43:36.hold all parts of the body. A marked circle in the middle of the mat

:43:37. > :43:43.measures nine metres in diameter and is split into three zones. The

:43:44. > :43:49.yellow wrestling area and the red passivity ring. A point is awarded

:43:50. > :44:02.if you force your opponents beyond the red zone and for executing holds

:44:03. > :44:09.and blocks. Everything you need to know about wrestling. At the start

:44:10. > :44:24.of the games Scotland's target was 35 medals. They already have 38. Now

:44:25. > :44:32.they are going for another. Shannon Hawke is going for another one. Over

:44:33. > :44:49.to your commentators. COMMENTATOR: Shannon Hawke, 19 years old. She is

:44:50. > :45:00.up against a Madi of South Africa. It will be uninteresting clash. Madi

:45:01. > :45:15.is a very experienced competitor. The Australian Olympian will oversee

:45:16. > :45:40.the bout as referee. Hawke was beaten earlier in the tournament by

:45:41. > :45:45.the beaten finalist from India. Unfortunately, the rumour is going

:45:46. > :45:50.around that Hawke has an injury. She lost her last bout quite easily. She

:45:51. > :45:57.has had both shoulder blades put to the ground in 31 seconds of the

:45:58. > :46:03.first period. She was meant to be carrying an injury. She did her very

:46:04. > :46:10.best there but an experienced South African has bowled her over and

:46:11. > :46:14.pinned her in the first period. Madi has gone one better than last time.

:46:15. > :46:21.A bronze for the South African. A very good performance by the South

:46:22. > :46:26.African. It will be good experience for Hawke. She is only 19. She will

:46:27. > :46:32.learn from the experience and hopefully the injury is not too bad.

:46:33. > :46:36.She managed to twist out of the first throw for the two points but

:46:37. > :46:42.her opponent getting her to the ground. Then she gets turned onto

:46:43. > :46:52.her back. Both shoulder blades on the ground for the pin. You can see

:46:53. > :46:58.where the injury was to her shoulder. She has been heavily

:46:59. > :47:02.taped. She was pinned very quickly in her second contest. You can

:47:03. > :47:11.imagine all the pressure going through those shoulders. In a lot of

:47:12. > :47:17.pain. She really had no choice. We have moved over to the face painting

:47:18. > :47:22.area. I asked the lady if she could make me look 15 years younger, the

:47:23. > :47:30.lady said she was not a magician. You look lovely, though.

:47:31. > :47:35.Disappointment for Shannon. But could the Scottish competitor fare

:47:36. > :47:55.any better in the 61 kilograms medal match? COMMENTATOR: Etko makes his

:47:56. > :48:08.way into the arena for Scotland. It is good to see the Scottish

:48:09. > :48:12.competitor in blue. Vella will be pleased to be in the red as well.

:48:13. > :48:21.Trying to follow on from what his good friend and team-mate did

:48:22. > :48:29.yesterday. Carlos Jiminez is overseeing it as the referee, from

:48:30. > :48:34.Malta. Etko had already retired and was assistant coach to Scotland. He

:48:35. > :48:39.took the wrestling boots off the wall and lace them up one last time.

:48:40. > :48:42.I'm sure he is glad that he did. He only finished fifth in the

:48:43. > :48:50.Commonwealth Games in Delhi but now he stands a very good chance of a

:48:51. > :48:59.bronze. The Maltese athlete is sent to dry his hands completely. They

:49:00. > :49:04.cannot be slippy with sweat. It is deemed an unfair advantage. We are

:49:05. > :49:17.about to get underway in the 61 kilograms class. Malta historically

:49:18. > :49:20.one of the big nations in wrestling. Straightaway he takes him to the

:49:21. > :49:33.ground, gets behind him looking for the two and the legless. Etko is on

:49:34. > :49:39.fire as he tries to go for a spin to turn the Maltese onto his back.

:49:40. > :49:46.Another two points. Taking your man to the ground gives you two points,

:49:47. > :49:51.getting him on his back gets you another two. If you pin his shoulder

:49:52. > :50:01.blades back also means the end of the bout. If you get to ten points

:50:02. > :50:06.it is also the end of the bout. He has had a futile fight today. Good

:50:07. > :50:12.sportsmanship from the Maltese allowing him to do up his boot. He

:50:13. > :50:20.is not afraid to come forward but that is the danger if he keeps

:50:21. > :50:26.shooting for the leg. Two points for Etko. He is lifting the leg, going

:50:27. > :50:43.for the leg lace again. Past 90 degrees. That is another two points.

:50:44. > :50:50.Yes, he is up to eight. He did spin him twice. He only needs another two

:50:51. > :50:54.points for the outright victory. Two points for the technical

:50:55. > :51:01.superiority. Can he turn him one more time? Yes, he can. It is 10-0

:51:02. > :51:14.and that should be it. Technical superiority. Etko, at 36, the former

:53:35. > :53:38.South Africa have a chance if they can get the ball through. India are

:53:39. > :53:47.searching for the equaliser. Jaspreet. Intercepted the big angled

:53:48. > :53:52.drive through the midfield. Russell loves to run with the ball. We have

:53:53. > :53:58.not seen much of her gibbering because they have used a different

:53:59. > :54:06.style in this match against India. Terreblanche off-loads.

:54:07. > :54:13.Chamberlain. The goal-scorer. It doesn't touch her leg. Play on.

:54:14. > :54:25.India had the ball on the end of the stick. A perfect example of the

:54:26. > :54:42.subtle 3-D skills of India. Kept in. Dipika Pallikal. Back to Jaspreet.

:54:43. > :54:51.This time it is South Africa trying to get a bit of possession. Back on

:54:52. > :55:02.the stick. Through bright, South Africa have the ball. A chance at

:55:03. > :55:08.goal. Speculation. Look at that. Grace coming through for India. We

:55:09. > :55:17.had everything then. A chip through. A speculator at goal. South

:55:18. > :55:25.Africa go right down the other end needing to mop up. Enter to end

:55:26. > :55:32.stuff. Hardly time to draw breath. The guys are getting through an

:55:33. > :55:38.awful lot of work. Back where we started at the beginning of the

:55:39. > :55:42.second half. India on the attack. They are quite good at locking the

:55:43. > :55:47.ball in the corner. They get all their players around the ball. A

:55:48. > :55:53.speculation ball like that in the air and it still does not get the

:55:54. > :55:57.ball away. Through the middle of the pitch rather than out on the flank.

:55:58. > :56:09.Can they make some room for themselves? South Africa just

:56:10. > :56:26.crowding out the area. Entry into the circle. A little half term. --

:56:27. > :56:38.half turn. Again, except for the Indian goalkeeper they are over

:56:39. > :56:41.halfway. Pushed high. Again, you have to say that South Africa are

:56:42. > :56:55.doing well to lock it into the edges of the field. India just keep bodies

:56:56. > :57:09.around the ball. Clever work. This time it is the skills of South

:57:10. > :57:21.Africa. Taylor. Bright. A strong drive down the field. Terreblanche.

:57:22. > :57:25.Four players around Bright now. When they crowd the ball, it means it is

:57:26. > :57:28.difficult to get your head up to make a good pass and South Africa

:57:29. > :57:29.look good when they have some space to work in.

:57:30. > :57:43.look good when they have some space to work in. A bit more freedom for

:57:44. > :58:00.India to run with the ball. Jaspreet, the goal-scorer for India.

:58:01. > :58:10.Cox brings it out and gets the free hit. Oh dear, another card in

:58:11. > :58:32.waiting. A warning from the umpire. They will get a corner. Jade Mayne

:58:33. > :58:37.having plenty of impact on this game for South Africa. When South Africa

:58:38. > :58:42.use the pace down the wings, they get into dangerous situations and

:58:43. > :58:47.Jade Mayne keeps a cool head and puts in a good ball and that causes

:58:48. > :58:53.trouble for the keeper and it comes off his foot. She is a really strong

:58:54. > :59:03.player. Injects the ball hard. It is a bouncing ball that is so hard to

:59:04. > :59:06.deal with. Hits the foot. Bright and a hit at goal that is deflected off

:59:07. > :59:46.the Indian runner. Not Nuffield for Coston. -- not

:59:47. > :59:53.enough field for Coston. Just trying to take it up to about 20 metres.

:59:54. > :59:57.Once it went over the back line. But as you do, trying to crib up the

:59:58. > :00:33.field a wee bit. Room to move in midfield. Russell

:00:34. > :01:10.will get the free hit. I think that was a bit of pushing

:01:11. > :01:18.going on there on the receiver. Jaspreet's given a few long passes

:01:19. > :01:22.away and she is very powerful. She has a huge area, but she is trying

:01:23. > :01:30.too long a pass. That is because South Africa are forcing her into

:01:31. > :01:38.playing these to too long passes. It has been dangerous. That one didn't

:01:39. > :01:44.come off at all. It is all about the pressure though. South Africa have

:01:45. > :01:50.the advantage on the score board, 2-1 they lead. And they again are

:01:51. > :02:12.rooking to -- looking to add to that tally.

:02:13. > :02:20.Picked off and steaming up to get an Indian player ahead of ball carrier

:02:21. > :02:30.and it just didn't happen early enough.

:02:31. > :02:37.Penalty corner time. Foot of the Indian defender. Jade Mayne, but

:02:38. > :02:42.there is a lovely move, switching from one side to the other. It is

:02:43. > :02:47.that right hand side they're finding more success with. Jade Mayne on two

:02:48. > :02:50.occasions has done that in the second half. Found the penalty

:02:51. > :03:00.corner. Being firm and strong on the ball and just finding a foot. So the

:03:01. > :03:05.familiar figure of Karen Bright to inject it out. They have had four

:03:06. > :03:15.penalty corner shots. Bright and Russell were waiting to

:03:16. > :03:28.pounce. But Savita in goal does the business for India.

:03:29. > :03:36.That pass has the Indian defence scrambling. Taylor putting that ball

:03:37. > :03:45.across the front of the face of goal.

:03:46. > :03:51.Again India delay taking the free hit and it allows South Africa to

:03:52. > :03:56.get back into position. That is the only thing that. Here is Damons

:03:57. > :04:30.testing out that knee after that Marsha Cox, the captain of South

:04:31. > :04:39.Africa, what a contribution. Marsha Cox to Terblanche.

:04:40. > :05:21.Good running forward with the ball. And Russell.

:05:22. > :05:34.Slightly mishit and a bit dangerous from Coston trying to get a stick on

:05:35. > :05:47.it. Can they conjure up something, India?

:05:48. > :05:55.What a backhand, wasn't it fabulous? Yes and it was a lovely ball. But

:05:56. > :06:04.she couldn't quite read it and get into the position. But it was a

:06:05. > :06:26.lovely pass. Bright sunshine now. Just th shadow of the stand.

:06:27. > :06:36.Damons over the top. The spectators grateful for the netting. They were

:06:37. > :06:40.and the ball forced, she does well, trapping it and letting it run wide.

:06:41. > :06:45.But I can't help thinking her knee was a bit sore and she didn't quite

:06:46. > :06:49.get in the right position. I think you're right. She is certainly not

:06:50. > :06:59.running with the freedom we have seen her. She is so live when she is

:07:00. > :07:03.running. It looked like a hit in desperation for India. The South

:07:04. > :07:13.Africans are not giving them much at all.

:07:14. > :07:20.Again India having to work it out of their left-side defence. It is not

:07:21. > :07:26.where they want to play the game when you're 2-1 down and under 20

:07:27. > :07:37.minutes to go in the back. She is just looking to try and draw a foul.

:07:38. > :08:29.Clever. In the end they will get the free hit.

:08:30. > :08:40.some stern words from the coach on the side.

:08:41. > :08:48.Great work from Mayne getting anything in the way there. But India

:08:49. > :08:51.have got to force something, haven't they? It is half way through the

:08:52. > :08:55.second half, they're a goal down. But that one goal is not good

:08:56. > :08:59.enough. A draw is not good enough for India, but it is for South

:09:00. > :09:03.Africa. They're going to have to keep forcing and it does mean there

:09:04. > :09:21.will be space for the South African breakaway attacks.

:09:22. > :09:28.The resolve from South Africa is too great for India. Mayne again. She

:09:29. > :09:34.has contributed in such a positive way for South Africa today. Hard

:09:35. > :09:54.running striker. She puts her head down and that pony

:09:55. > :10:01.tail is flying at the back. Ipd let South Africa go down the wings. But

:10:02. > :10:05.not down the middle. And they're crowded out. They're quite happy to

:10:06. > :10:15.let you have it wide. Because their confident in their ability to trap

:10:16. > :10:20.the ball and close it in. Terblanche has come across into the middle now.

:10:21. > :10:29.Players so busy marking their players, the Indian defensive

:10:30. > :10:35.players, the ball wept to the keeper. And a goal. There is goal No

:10:36. > :10:39.3 through Davids for South Africa and almost from nothing. There was a

:10:40. > :10:44.slight drop in concentration from the Indian defenders and a couple of

:10:45. > :10:52.shots and the second one for South Africa. That was made by Dirkie

:10:53. > :10:58.Chamberlain's brilliant shot. The rebound was put in by Davids. The

:10:59. > :11:02.keeper was still moving across. I think didn't see that strike coming

:11:03. > :11:11.to start with. Too many players in the way. But a brilliant finish.

:11:12. > :11:15.Yes, I think she was missing that and Davids finishing into the side

:11:16. > :11:23.netting. That was always going to stretch any keeper. So 3-1 to South

:11:24. > :11:31.Africa over India. A crucial match. I think in term of territory, that

:11:32. > :11:35.is show the -- how the game should go. In front of goal, South Africa

:11:36. > :11:39.are much more deadly than India have been and they do deserve it, but

:11:40. > :11:42.India have fought hard and got in the right territory, but they

:11:43. > :11:48.haven't made the territory count. Well, look at that, twice as many

:11:49. > :11:52.opportunities - South Africa have created three from 18. Not a bad

:11:53. > :12:11.return. One out of four would be what you were looking for.

:12:12. > :12:19.The one/two passing is what the crowd want to see. And a free hit to

:12:20. > :12:23.South Africa in defence. In fact id dit go out toff play. The game

:12:24. > :12:28.slipping away from India. They have got to get something and get it

:12:29. > :13:06.quick. They're going to throw caution to the wind, are they?

:13:07. > :13:09.more coming from South Africa. Taking the ball wide and stopping

:13:10. > :13:13.with it. They have done much quite a lot. It means that they get caught

:13:14. > :13:15.here. A strike on the foot. lot. It means that they get caught

:13:16. > :13:35.penalty corner. lot. It means that they get caught

:13:36. > :13:39.on. -- Bernadette Coston. A big discussion amongst the Indian

:13:40. > :13:52.defenders, who is going to be the one to come out. That is brave. She

:13:53. > :13:57.got the late call to come back. They expect a lot of this young kid.

:13:58. > :14:12.Making her run out is a bit cruel but she did it. She got the ball.

:14:13. > :14:17.The Indian team, pressure on them. They feel that the game is slipping

:14:18. > :14:24.away from them but they have two keep trying. So focused is this

:14:25. > :14:42.South African team. Again, through the middle. And they cannot finish.

:14:43. > :14:56.Evans had a De Illse Davids and du Plessis beside her. A penalty

:14:57. > :15:04.corner. Getting instructions from the bench. Lovely skills from Rani.

:15:05. > :15:10.Drawing the tackle from Bobbs and nonchalantly putting it on the foot.

:15:11. > :15:20.This game is not over yet. There is time for India to get back in it.

:15:21. > :15:41.Timing from India. Proving that they are in this for the entirety. A

:15:42. > :16:06.dream card -- cream what a sound. What the Indians

:16:07. > :16:12.wanted to hear. Just when you had the sense that South Africa had

:16:13. > :16:19.taken it over. They deserved that for all their pressure. Brilliant

:16:20. > :16:23.finished by Rani, just digs it into the turf and gets it over the

:16:24. > :16:36.keeper. It brings them back into this game. They sensed they have an

:16:37. > :16:45.opportunity. The ball on the end of their stick. It bobbles towards the

:16:46. > :17:02.goal. Those are hard to stop. Taken on the arm. Lisa-Marie Deetlefs.

:17:03. > :17:08.India have also got a man off. Where did this catch her? Let's have a

:17:09. > :17:17.look. Did she catch it on the elbow? On the wrist? When you hit

:17:18. > :17:26.the ball, the follow-through of your stick takes the ball around and it

:17:27. > :17:52.robbery caught her on the from. I was always being cracked on the

:17:53. > :18:06.farm. That second knuckle on that thumb. Jaspreet. That catches Dirkie

:18:07. > :18:16.Chamberlain. Ten minutes left in the match. Good ball in. There was a bit

:18:17. > :18:26.of pushing going on. So India are just doing enough to make this an

:18:27. > :18:40.interesting last ten minutes. Work going on that thumb. The whistle had

:18:41. > :18:44.already gone before. Just knocking the ball up to herd the body. They

:18:45. > :19:05.don't have a referral left so they cannot argue with the umpire. The

:19:06. > :19:11.ball put up by Lenise Marais. They could not take the free hit quickly.

:19:12. > :19:19.It could be a costly mistake. A slight loss of concentration. The

:19:20. > :19:25.ball fired in early by India. A quick reaction. You cannot hit the

:19:26. > :19:33.ball away. Runaway gets ready. Instinctive but it could be costly.

:19:34. > :19:48.The countdown on the 40 seconds. Only ten left. What will happen from

:19:49. > :19:56.this corner. She was out to early, Bernadette Coston. If you break, you

:19:57. > :20:10.will Inc wish your right to defend the penalty corner. India,

:20:11. > :20:18.Jaspreet. It is the skipper. Clever. Now Van Deventer will not make a

:20:19. > :20:28.more important to save during this Olympic Games. South Africa bringing

:20:29. > :20:44.the ball away. India on the hunt for the equaliser. Rampal. The skipper

:20:45. > :20:53.is there as well. A couple of transgressions in a row from Bright.

:20:54. > :21:02.Loose ball. A free hit for the defence. South Africa breathe again.

:21:03. > :21:12.India so good at winding up free hit after free hit. Look at the double

:21:13. > :21:17.save. Well cleared by Chamberlain. Three around. A bit of shepherding

:21:18. > :21:25.around Cox. The ball just catching the foot. They are at sixes and

:21:26. > :22:00.sevens, this is due to the speed injected into the game by India. De

:22:01. > :22:07.Damons contests. Look at the speed of the wrist. A bullet of a shot

:22:08. > :22:11.from the right side of the pitch. On forced errors because India are

:22:12. > :22:13.imparting pressure and South Africa are getting tired. A bullet, as you

:22:14. > :22:39.said, coming in their will stop. India are quickly catching up with

:22:40. > :22:50.South Africa. It goes high and over the top. Bernadette Coston got to

:22:51. > :22:57.that. She put a stick on it. Great defence from South Africa. Five and

:22:58. > :23:09.a half minutes left in the match. Bernadette Coston is out very

:23:10. > :23:33.quickly. She just saves 13. -- saves her team. Under five minutes to

:23:34. > :23:38.play. India searching for an equaliser at the very least. They

:23:39. > :23:45.need to win this game. A draw will not be good enough. It means two

:23:46. > :23:59.goals in four minutes. Time is ticking away. They are running out

:24:00. > :24:09.of time to get this semifinal place. Mayne penalised that time. Still

:24:10. > :24:28.South Africa running and put pressure on. Absolutely. Each India.

:24:29. > :24:43.The captain desperately trying. Damons. A little flick back. In the

:24:44. > :24:53.middle they surge once more India. Three minutes 40. The wall South

:24:54. > :25:02.Africa goes up again. Strong wrists. The power comes through. She has got

:25:03. > :25:11.a great strike on her from that right wingback position. India

:25:12. > :25:20.having to come out and redirect. That is exactly what South Africa

:25:21. > :25:25.need to do. Terblanche. Rani running with the ball. Looks for entry into

:25:26. > :25:30.the circle. Searching for the equaliser. What a save by the

:25:31. > :25:39.captain. Marsha Cox standing in front of the goalkeeper. There is so

:25:40. > :25:46.much happening. Van Deventer. The left boot, it is pushed out over the

:25:47. > :25:59.backline. Two and a half minutes left in the match. What a great shot

:26:00. > :26:08.that was by Errani. Van Deventer. Great save. Another

:26:09. > :26:13.that was by Errani. Van Deventer. great shrike. Good shot. Good

:26:14. > :26:18.defensive left foot. Well parried. She didn't cut the angle down too

:26:19. > :26:33.much. But she got the left boot back. Great save. India are not

:26:34. > :26:42.finished yet. The captain trying desperately hard. You cannot deny

:26:43. > :27:00.what South Africa have put out here today. One and a half minutes. Both

:27:01. > :27:06.benches up on their feet. Into no man's land. Write up on the top

:27:07. > :27:10.right wing. The captain putting it exactly where it needs to go. South

:27:11. > :27:15.Africa hanging on by the skin of their teeth at the moment. They are

:27:16. > :27:20.finding it very difficult to deal with the skill and pressure of

:27:21. > :27:25.India. India are just lacking a bit of pace. With all of this skill, it

:27:26. > :27:34.is the pace that they are missing to inject into the situation. Under one

:27:35. > :27:40.minute to go. All South Africa have to do is hold the ball. Russell and

:27:41. > :27:48.Terblanche. Just fires it up the other end. Extinguishing the hope

:27:49. > :27:59.that India can come back and tie it up. 30 seconds left in the match. It

:28:00. > :28:06.is a tough call this one. The Indian captain still trying to progress

:28:07. > :28:16.forward. Into the circle. The ball is there. It has been released by

:28:17. > :28:23.the ballgirl. Now, the crowd urge India on. Toppo could have had a

:28:24. > :28:28.shot. There is the hooter! And the crowd have had their money's worth

:28:29. > :28:34.this afternoon. Look at South Africa, they have got hands on their

:28:35. > :28:43.knees, some are down on their haunches. What a match! Played in

:28:44. > :28:52.very good spirit. India asking for a referral. It is not over yet. But it

:28:53. > :28:58.won't change the second place in the pool. They might get the draw if

:28:59. > :29:11.they get the right referral. The ball bobbling about a bit. There was

:29:12. > :29:16.a stick hook here I think. Marsha Cox, if you look when the ball is

:29:17. > :29:22.played behind her here. She leans across. It is there, the stick is

:29:23. > :29:28.taken there. I think they might get a corner for that. But a draw is not

:29:29. > :29:34.good enough for India. It is only good enough for South Africa. So

:29:35. > :29:42.either way they're through. So we all wait to see what this referral

:29:43. > :29:48.will mean. Lovely skill there. I think it is that one there. She

:29:49. > :29:56.nearly got there as well. So maybe there is hope yet. For this young

:29:57. > :30:02.Indian side, competing against a much more experienced team. Is a big

:30:03. > :30:10.stick check there. Right on the hooter. India have done well to come

:30:11. > :30:17.back into this game. South Africa have hung on. A fantastic display.

:30:18. > :30:21.When they have needed to they have scored the goals. There was no back

:30:22. > :30:27.of the stick. REFEREE: Thank you very much. That is the end of the

:30:28. > :30:30.game. Ipd right on the hooter lose their referral. They had an

:30:31. > :30:35.opportunity to force a corner and get a draw, which would have meant a

:30:36. > :30:46.lot to them, they would have been on on the same points. But South Africa

:30:47. > :30:53.take this match 3-2. South Africa through to join England, Australia

:30:54. > :31:04.and New Zealand. A bit of controversy twarsds the end. South

:31:05. > :31:08.Africa are through to the semi finals. Congratulations. We are live

:31:09. > :31:16.at the BBC at the Quay. This is Clyde, the official mascot. You have

:31:17. > :31:20.been tweeting. Tim says, Nicola Adams is by far one of the most

:31:21. > :31:26.exciting British athletes competing today. Just awesome. Nicola won the

:31:27. > :31:35.quarter-final in the women's boxing. Craig is happy about Nicola Adams,

:31:36. > :31:40.typical Adams effect. Just brilliant. One from Rio Ferdinand,

:31:41. > :31:45.he was captivated by the action between England and Scotland and

:31:46. > :31:51.said, I'm into this hockey, I wish our refs communicated like these

:31:52. > :31:56.hockey refs and he admired the way the players showed respect about the

:31:57. > :32:06.decision. He said, I saw back chat, but with Leece and o' e-- please and

:32:07. > :32:10.thank yous. Kpt see that taking off in football. -- can't see that

:32:11. > :32:16.taking off in football. At the moment it is a bit inClement. It has

:32:17. > :32:19.been raining. We are heading inside for the moment. But you can catch up

:32:20. > :32:25.with some news. We've got factory boys and butchers'

:32:26. > :32:28.apprentices and office clerks Don't stop moving!

:32:29. > :33:08.If you go back you'll die! The deadly Ebola epidemic is a

:33:44. > :33:45.gallons of water poured on to the street. Now back to Dougie in

:33:46. > :34:06.Glasgow. Every anthem, every beat,

:34:07. > :34:07.every moment. The atmosphere,

:34:08. > :34:25.it's incredible here. Every anthem, every beat,

:34:26. > :34:28.every moment. Get amongst the action

:34:29. > :35:14.all summer long She has smashed that. That is the

:35:15. > :35:23.second silver medal in consecutive Commonwealth Games. The silver medal

:35:24. > :35:35.is going to go to Ashley Bryant. He takes the gold. Congratulations

:35:36. > :35:46.Laura! I'm joined by England's silver surfers from last night.

:35:47. > :35:52.Laura, winning that silver, it was tremendously emotional for you and a

:35:53. > :35:58.lot of the crowd? Yes, it was extreme emotion as I crossed the

:35:59. > :36:04.line in second. I don't think I believed what I had achieved and it

:36:05. > :36:12.was special to have done it in front of so many fans. And Steve Cram

:36:13. > :36:19.coached you and a different job for him to be coaching. I think he

:36:20. > :36:23.enjoys commentating, because he can be distracted. But in that last

:36:24. > :36:27.hundred metres I think he was excited and could have let his

:36:28. > :36:33.emotions out a bit. When you were involved in the triple jump, how

:36:34. > :36:38.aware are you of other things happening in the stadium. We try and

:36:39. > :36:45.get a clip of everything that is happening. After my race I seen

:36:46. > :36:51.Ashley getting his medal. Ashley, we have got, Nick has to give you that

:36:52. > :36:55.mic, but two days of competition and a tough thing to have to do. But are

:36:56. > :37:01.you aware of what is happening around the staid crumb and that Team

:37:02. > :37:08.-- stadium and Team England are doing well. Yes I am watching a lot

:37:09. > :37:12.of thises to keep relaxed. But it was fantastic. The team is doing so

:37:13. > :37:20.well and it was great to watch and compete. Nick, at the end the

:37:21. > :37:24.facilities at Hampden Park, because it is a football stadium and they

:37:25. > :37:29.put in the track and field, presumably you were happy with the

:37:30. > :37:34.conditions? Yes, I couldn't have asked for more. Great atmosphere.

:37:35. > :37:38.Everything was set up brilliantly. I must ask, because we have two silver

:37:39. > :37:43.meats being worn, but Laura and Nick are not wearing yours. I will be

:37:44. > :37:48.receiving mine tonight. I'm excited for that. That is the moment it

:37:49. > :37:52.sinks in what you have achieved. Give us a sense in the triple jump

:37:53. > :38:00.how much effort and dedication you have had to put in before this

:38:01. > :38:04.Commonwealth Games. I went in for winter training and put in so much

:38:05. > :38:12.work and I'm happy just to bring back a medal. Ashley, the decathlon,

:38:13. > :38:16.having ten events and being a master of all, it is extraordinary, in

:38:17. > :38:20.terms of the preparation and competing for Team England, must

:38:21. > :38:24.make you very proud? Yes, it is great to come to the Commonwealth

:38:25. > :38:30.Games. It has been a great event and we have put in a lot of work in the

:38:31. > :38:35.winter and to do it here where everyone targets. To pick up silver

:38:36. > :38:40.was a proud moment. Nick, let's talk about you too. You were up against a

:38:41. > :38:44.Scottish fellow, trying to get the bronze. The home support are going

:38:45. > :38:49.to shout for the Scottish athletes, but they were supporting you well as

:38:50. > :38:56.well weren't they? Yes. There was a great atmosphere. Every thrower got

:38:57. > :39:00.supported equally I think. Once you go in the ring you almost don't hear

:39:01. > :39:05.anything. Give us a sense of Glasgow and how Glasgow responded to the

:39:06. > :39:10.games. I'm from here, I'm aware of the way they respond generally to

:39:11. > :39:16.sporting occasions, how has it felt like? It feels like the whole city

:39:17. > :39:20.is behind us and even is excited and enjoying the games. The European

:39:21. > :39:25.Championships are coming up, what is next for you? I will spend the week

:39:26. > :39:31.recovering and get the head focussed on putting in another good

:39:32. > :39:37.performance in Zurich. It can be difficult, as you try and peak for

:39:38. > :39:44.up with Championship and it will be -- for one Championship. Hopefully I

:39:45. > :39:49.can set a new personal best. Laura, give us a sense of how important it

:39:50. > :40:01.is, because you're competing for England and not gb and the sense of

:40:02. > :40:05.team work. It is great to represent Team England and we have got

:40:06. > :40:09.together, as well as the Welsh and the Scottish, we have got behind

:40:10. > :40:14.each other. The atmosphere in the athletes' village, Greg Rutherford

:40:15. > :40:18.put out tweets about the noise and the frustration. It is hard when you

:40:19. > :40:23.pick up your medal not to go back and whoop it up? It is hard.

:40:24. > :40:28.Different athletes from all different sports and countries are

:40:29. > :40:31.finishing at different times. It is hard and you're happy with your

:40:32. > :40:35.performance and you want to celebrate. But you have to respect

:40:36. > :40:41.the other athletes. They're still competing. The village environment

:40:42. > :40:44.is noisy and you have to deal with it and try not to spress too much

:40:45. > :40:51.about it. -- stress too much about it. Well done to you. Silvers for

:40:52. > :40:56.all of you. Congratulations. When I think of it, the first thing that

:40:57. > :41:02.spring s to mind is music and football. It is known for football.

:41:03. > :41:08.Glasgow is dominated by the two big football teams. And those two

:41:09. > :41:13.monumental stadiums. There is more than two great clubs. What is that

:41:14. > :41:18.club with the bus coming out. The Garage. You can feel the floor

:41:19. > :41:24.bouncing with you. The Scots know how to party. People love their

:41:25. > :41:30.music. Really rowdy crowd. The girnls like that. And the boys. It

:41:31. > :41:44.is the place to be. You name a band with musical history, they have

:41:45. > :41:50.played there. Belle and Sebastian. Calvin Harris. Primal Scream. Zblu

:41:51. > :41:57.dancing the odd drink and just yeah, great nights out.

:41:58. > :42:06.I was going to come back outside. But the weather, well let's look out

:42:07. > :42:12.there. It has touched a little, well a bit challenging. The camera crew

:42:13. > :42:16.is diving for cover. Trying to keep our stuff dry and to the left, that

:42:17. > :42:21.is the bar area. Look at that big wave for everyone in the bar.

:42:22. > :42:24.They're all happy and dry. It is not dampening the spirits. If you have

:42:25. > :42:30.been watching the coverage here on BBC Three and BBC1, and you have

:42:31. > :42:35.been inspired by anything you have seen from the Commonwealth Games, go

:42:36. > :42:49.to our web-site. There is information about all the sports you

:42:50. > :43:30.will see in the Commonwealth Games. Just get out there and get.

:43:31. > :43:37.As I said, we are going to start with table tennis. Before we go into

:43:38. > :43:48.the action, here is all you need to know. Table tennis is a quick and

:43:49. > :43:54.skilful sport requiring a combination of power and delicacy.

:43:55. > :44:01.That's are made of wood covered by rubber giving players different

:44:02. > :44:06.control over speed and spin. Each rally begins with a serve which must

:44:07. > :44:13.be hit from behind the endline and above the table. In singles it can

:44:14. > :44:18.be directed anywhere on the table but in doubles it must go from one

:44:19. > :44:26.right-hand corner to the other. Each player must then strike the ball in

:44:27. > :44:31.turn. If you hit out of turn, you lose the point. Matches are the best

:44:32. > :44:37.of five sets with the first player to 11 points taking the set. There

:44:38. > :44:50.are several events in Glasgow. Singles, doubles, mixed doubles and

:44:51. > :44:55.team competitions. This weather is pretty bad in Glasgow. Delighted to

:44:56. > :45:06.go inside for the table tennis. It is the men's double competition.

:45:07. > :45:11.Doherty and Cameron carried the home hopes against the Chinese pair.

:45:12. > :45:39.Scotland are leading by two games to one. Doherty to serve, two games to

:45:40. > :45:58.one. Docherty smiling back at his partner who felt the pain. More or

:45:59. > :46:10.less the same thing for Lu. He had plenty of time but misjudged the

:46:11. > :46:37.spin. Docherty going for it early. Missing out that time. So, two

:46:38. > :47:03.apiece. Yes! A little bit of clear over the net. In came Docherty,

:47:04. > :47:22.really pouncing her. Back in front. A good backhand from Zhao. Fooling

:47:23. > :47:28.Cameron. So Lu with a serve. Well, the net cord made a difference.

:47:29. > :47:36.Cameron and Docherty giving an apology. But right now, that is

:47:37. > :47:40.manna from heaven. There was time for Lu to adjust but he couldn't

:47:41. > :48:16.quite do it. But he is straight back in with that big forehand.

:48:17. > :48:36.Stretching Docherty. 4-4. Zhao shaking his head. Thought he had

:48:37. > :49:02.that one under control. Mistake from Cameron. Quick attack from Liu.

:49:03. > :49:19.Close to the table. Again, good hitting. Xiao the master with that

:49:20. > :49:23.backhand flick. The New Zealanders are two points ahead. Not taking the

:49:24. > :49:40.opportunity to towel down. The Scots do. Real short shot worked a treat.

:49:41. > :49:54.I thought he was going to go for the backhand flick. Not a bit of it. The

:49:55. > :50:16.lead is down to one. A big forehand! Moving across the table as he played

:50:17. > :50:29.it. Exciting shot. 7-7. Yes! Cameron with the finish. Doherty with the

:50:30. > :50:41.backhand down the table. The two combining really well. Three points

:50:42. > :51:40.in a row. They are a point ahead. Liu in with a big winner. Liu again.

:51:41. > :51:47.Liu is upset with himself because he has made so many of those backhands

:51:48. > :52:11.of the backhand flick. Tied once again. 9-9. I think it flicked the

:52:12. > :52:38.top of the net. But a bold return from Cameron. Match point for

:52:39. > :53:01.Scotland. Tricky. Deep into the forehand of Doherty. Good try. Good

:53:02. > :53:27.defence from Doherty. Cameron left without a prayer there. So, game

:53:28. > :53:32.point, New Zealand. They have each had a chance to take this game.

:53:33. > :54:09.Scotland with a chance to take the match. In the end, it was a couple

:54:10. > :54:40.of inches or more wide. Game point number two. They played the net cord

:54:41. > :55:16.so well. Then got one back. It is 12-12. Where next for this one?

:55:17. > :55:41.Cameron to serve to Liu. One it was. A second match point for the Scots.

:55:42. > :55:51.It is Liu to serve. They have got it!

:55:52. > :55:57.It is Liu to serve. They have got Cameron and for Doherty. They beat

:55:58. > :56:05.the team ranked 12 in men's double in Liu and Xiao. That is as good as

:56:06. > :56:11.beating a seed. Somewhat surprising that they were not seeded. It is the

:56:12. > :56:17.Scots who win it. And it was a thriller! They kept the crowd on the

:56:18. > :56:36.edge of their seats but they pulled it off. Those are the details. The

:56:37. > :56:40.crowd really whip up. Doherty and Cameron go through into the second

:56:41. > :56:46.round. H amend this atmosphere for what was a first-round match. We go

:56:47. > :56:52.to the third round. The English pair were big underdogs against India who

:56:53. > :57:06.were among the favourites for gold. We join the match at the start of

:57:07. > :57:22.the fourth game. India leading 2-1. Great table tennis. Le Fevre and

:57:23. > :57:46.Walker looked to be under great pressure. The way Walker and -- Le

:57:47. > :57:50.Fevre have started. Fantastic by Le Fevre. She has got better and

:57:51. > :58:30.better. This is amazing, 6-0. I imagine the

:58:31. > :59:01.Indians sweating more than the two English players at the moment.

:59:02. > :59:09.So their on the board. This plenty of sporting rivalry between India

:59:10. > :59:15.and England. There is a current cricket Test series between the two

:59:16. > :59:18.nations. India won at Lords for the first time since the 70s a couple of

:59:19. > :59:40.weeks ago. They're all over the Indian pair in

:59:41. > :59:54.this fourth game. Just can't get a blow in at all.

:59:55. > :00:07.Nine game point s to take us into a decider. There it is is. It is

:00:08. > :00:14.almost as if the Indians said they can have this one and we will

:00:15. > :00:16.concentrate on the fifth and final game. 11-1. You never would have

:00:17. > :01:17.predicted that. English table tennis has enjoyed a

:01:18. > :01:25.real resurgence in the last few years. You think that Walker's just

:01:26. > :01:50.19, Le Fevre is 21. India will be more competitive in is

:01:51. > :02:04.in game. Although that is not saying a lot.

:02:05. > :02:20.The English pair have won 13 of the last 14 points in this match. The

:02:21. > :02:24.Indian have gone for a time out. I'm not surprised, they cannot win a

:02:25. > :02:42.point. A complete turn around in this match.

:02:43. > :03:05.How to stop the bleeding is the question. She is the more

:03:06. > :03:14.experienced player, and she and the coach laying down the law a bit to

:03:15. > :03:18.Ghosh. But the Indians have come here big favourites. This would be a

:03:19. > :03:40.serious upset if they go out at the third round stage.

:03:41. > :03:59.Just got an issue with the score board. Bits of paper flying around.

:04:00. > :04:29.Now, we are ready to go. Wide off the top of the net from Le Fevre.

:04:30. > :04:39.One of the top Indian players will be playing later at about 20 to 6 in

:04:40. > :04:44.the singles. Part of the Indian team that nearly got a medal in the team

:04:45. > :05:08.event. Well played Le Fevre again. Forcing

:05:09. > :05:14.the error and England re-establish that two-point lead.

:05:15. > :05:35.All is not well in the Indian camp. So they have changed ends. She

:05:36. > :05:39.misjudged that. I think actually she thought it was not going to land on

:05:40. > :05:48.the table. It was almost a token skres chur. Oh yes, no chance that

:05:49. > :05:59.she could get across there. Could haven't placed it better.

:06:00. > :06:10.Well, that might prove crucial. Is this the start of some kind of come

:06:11. > :06:22.back? Well, the biter bit. Just clipped the edge of the table. What

:06:23. > :06:29.goes around comes around! Three points away Walker and Le Fevre.

:06:30. > :06:33.That was wild! He just threw a fierce right hand at it and

:06:34. > :06:46.That was wild! He just threw a hit the back ball on the full.

:06:47. > :06:59.Every point now is a pressure point for both pairs. Time out called. Not

:07:00. > :07:49.surprising, with the situation as it is.

:07:50. > :08:03.This is a massive point. Le Fevre serving at 6-8. And that is it, you

:08:04. > :08:11.heard the shout from Walker - got it, he said! And suddenly there is

:08:12. > :08:24.daylight Well, we saw Walker do that to them

:08:25. > :08:37.in the last game. Now Ghosh has done the same off the Le Fevre serve.

:08:38. > :08:57.Back in it at 9-8. The English pair held their nerve during that point

:08:58. > :09:02.and they have now got two points to win the match here. Just to add to

:09:03. > :09:11.the tension, a bit of towelling down before we continue. This would be a

:09:12. > :09:15.really big scalp for Walker and Le Fevre to take.

:09:16. > :09:27.They have done it! What a victory that is! Le Fevre's smile says it

:09:28. > :09:38.all. They were 2-1 down. They came back to win 3-2. Sam Walker and

:09:39. > :09:44.Karina Le Fevre take out one of the seeded pairs and they will have a

:09:45. > :09:50.place in the last 16. Well done to England, winners in that match. Well

:09:51. > :09:58.here at the Foyier area at BBC Scotland, is the venue for Tonight

:09:59. > :10:06.at the Games. Here is the red carpet that the guests will walk along.

:10:07. > :10:12.Here at 6.30 we are live at the SECC for boxing. Paddy Barnes, the

:10:13. > :10:22.defending champion, among the highlights. First to wrestling and

:10:23. > :10:28.Leon Rattigan is going for a medal. COMMENTATOR: Here is Leon Rattigan.

:10:29. > :10:38.You saw his wife battling for the gold yesterday and had to settle for

:10:39. > :10:52.silver. This is the man he is against im. Soso

:10:53. > :11:02.He has come 11th in the World Championships in 2009. Since then he

:11:03. > :11:04.has had major Achilles problems. Just one tournament since he had

:11:05. > :11:40.surgery. Tamarau just with a nice shot. He is

:11:41. > :11:46.looking to lift. Looking for the take down. Needs to get some control

:11:47. > :11:54.to finish the move. Nice move! And the referee will have to look at

:11:55. > :11:59.that one. Given two to red and four to Rattigan. Four points for the

:12:00. > :12:06.take down. So he is back and then a reversal by Tamarau for one. There

:12:07. > :12:11.is Leon's wife, looking very emotional. Very nervous. As he was

:12:12. > :12:15.yesterday during her gold medal bout that sadly for her she lost. It was

:12:16. > :12:21.tears yesterday as well. Three points up, but the Nigerian even

:12:22. > :12:26.with Rattigan's power, the Nigerian can combat it and the question is

:12:27. > :12:33.will the man from business toll have enough energy in the tank -- Bristol

:12:34. > :12:40.have enough energy in the tank to be able to deal with it. Not much in

:12:41. > :12:48.it. Just over a minute of wrestling under way. Two three-minute periods.

:12:49. > :12:52.These are 97 kilos. They're big men, it takes a lot of energy to move

:12:53. > :12:58.around and to move your opponent around. Rattigan was unlucky with

:12:59. > :13:02.the draw and had to do an extra round of 16 match, because of the

:13:03. > :13:07.way the draw happened. He has had three long bouts leading to this.

:13:08. > :13:11.Both seem to be waiting and picking their moves. Quite a cautious start

:13:12. > :13:32.by both wrestlers. Not wanting to make that mistake.

:13:33. > :13:41.busier of the two. Does he have the power here? Nearly onto his back. He

:13:42. > :13:47.seems to have woken up to the challenge here. Does he have the

:13:48. > :13:53.fitness if it goes to a second period? He is 8-2 up at the moment.

:13:54. > :14:00.If he can take it to ten it will be finished early. He is picking his

:14:01. > :14:08.time when to attack. Saving his energy and using it at the right

:14:09. > :14:13.time. Almost doing a bit of counter wrestling. Allowing Nigeria to make

:14:14. > :14:22.the moves. The Nigerian is starting to get a bit more desperate. At 8-2,

:14:23. > :14:28.it is about not making mistakes. If your opponent makes a mistake, take

:14:29. > :14:34.advantage of that. 20 seconds of this first period to go. Ratigan

:14:35. > :14:43.will be happy to cruise to halfway and get his breath back. Try to

:14:44. > :14:52.finish it off in the second period. A couple of fakes there. I don't

:14:53. > :15:02.think he was ever going to go down. Leon Rattigan of Bristol in the lead

:15:03. > :15:09.at 8-2. He is in control of the match at the moment. Both wrestlers

:15:10. > :15:22.on their side but because Leon has initiated the move he has been given

:15:23. > :15:28.the fall. There is his wife. A number of members of the press

:15:29. > :15:32.suggested in the past that theirs was a sham marriage. I think we can

:15:33. > :15:40.see now that they could not be more in love. Leon Rattigan is a gentle

:15:41. > :15:52.giant. He barely spoke out against the press. Just tried to wash all

:15:53. > :16:00.over him. Now on the edge of a second Commonwealth Games medal to

:16:01. > :16:04.add to the one he got in Delhi. With the new rules, six points is not

:16:05. > :16:20.much. He has two stay focused. the new rules, six points is not

:16:21. > :16:23.is the take down. 24 Ratigan. There is an 8-point

:16:24. > :16:30.is the take down. 24 Ratigan. There is an difference. His wife screaming

:16:31. > :16:36.encouragement. At 10-2, you are tempted to force the next point. You

:16:37. > :16:45.do not want to make the mistake. There is the single leg. A great

:16:46. > :16:50.escape from Tamarau. Look at the power. Just about the most powerful

:16:51. > :16:57.man in the class. He turns him for two. That is it. It is over. Leon

:16:58. > :17:13.Rattigan has got the bronze medal. He has slumped down onto the mat.

:17:14. > :17:18.The husband of the former Ukrainian who got the silver yesterday. They

:17:19. > :17:29.will be one happy couple. A really good performance by Leon Rattigan

:17:30. > :17:35.after coming back from, 80% of his Achilles tendon, he made a quicker

:17:36. > :17:41.recovery than was expected. Now he has got a bronze medal. A ruptured

:17:42. > :17:46.Achilles is a horrible injury to have. All of your power on the mat

:17:47. > :17:51.is taken away. The Nigerian got caught here. You are not getting

:17:52. > :17:59.just dumped him around. Twisted him just dumped him around. Twisted him

:18:00. > :18:09.around and scored the take-down. just dumped him around. Twisted him

:18:10. > :18:15.win by ten points. His wife could not be any happier! The little and

:18:16. > :18:20.large duo that they are. She has charged off around the back to be

:18:21. > :18:33.the first to congratulate him. She has managed to slip security and get

:18:34. > :18:43.through. Who is going to take on big lay -- Leon. That will mean so much

:18:44. > :18:51.to him after missing out at the last games. We are just about to go over

:18:52. > :18:58.to life boxing at the SECC. Earlier we saw Nicola Adams more than live

:18:59. > :19:01.up to her tag as favourite. Next up, a men's light flyweight

:19:02. > :19:21.quarterfinal. There is no doubt about who is the star in this one.

:19:22. > :19:29.Defending champion. Does that add more pressure? Not really. Our aim

:19:30. > :19:43.is always to win. There is always that pressure there. I usually win

:19:44. > :19:49.bronze. I am going for gold here. Are you aware of the crowd when you

:19:50. > :19:56.are boxing? Now I can hear my coaches clearly. It gives you a big

:19:57. > :20:05.boost. Especially with the family getting behind me. I often think,

:20:06. > :20:09.what am I doing here? I could be at home watching TV. But once the bell

:20:10. > :20:16.goes, all of that goes away and it is game on. Different scoring system

:20:17. > :20:27.at these Commonwealth Games. And also no head guard. The scoring

:20:28. > :20:35.means that now you have two fight all the way through. I think it is

:20:36. > :20:44.great that there is no head guard. You are expected to fight five times

:20:45. > :20:51.in a daze. I don't think there should be so many bouts in such a

:20:52. > :21:04.short time. Is that a concern going in? It is boxing. You are always

:21:05. > :21:08.going to get hit. The don't get me wrong, I would love to turn

:21:09. > :21:21.professional. 40,000 euros guaranteed. It would be stupid for

:21:22. > :21:28.me to go professional. Would you be disappointed with anything less than

:21:29. > :21:32.gold? I would be disappointed with anything less than the gold medal.

:21:33. > :21:39.In a funny way, I wouldn't be disappointed if somebody better than

:21:40. > :21:53.me beat me. The think any body out there is capable of meeting you? No.

:21:54. > :22:00.There is Clyde looking very excited at the prospect of life boxing. And

:22:01. > :22:09.so are we. Behind me, the SEC complex, John Inver Dale is there.

:22:10. > :22:17.What have you got for us? We have nine boxers from the home nations

:22:18. > :22:34.tonight. Not just Paddy Barnes. There is Ahmed Ahil. Conor Coyle and

:22:35. > :22:45.Tony Fowler from England in the middleweight. When Paddy Barnes

:22:46. > :22:49.walks into the ring, there is a sense that something special is

:22:50. > :22:56.about to happen. That is exactly what you were talking about with

:22:57. > :23:06.Nicola early on. She has got that in star quality. It just energises an

:23:07. > :23:17.entire auditorium. This is a brilliantly orchestrated venue. But

:23:18. > :23:23.one or two fights, there are ones with not a lot of action. When she

:23:24. > :23:29.walked into the place, it all lit up. It was absolutely brilliant.

:23:30. > :23:36.People are just revelling in her glory. She set fire to the Olympics

:23:37. > :23:40.two years ago. She was involved in her first-round match, late at

:23:41. > :23:48.night. This afternoon, the packed boxing arena. Look at the power she

:23:49. > :23:54.generates. She is a smiler but she is lethal. It is not the punching

:23:55. > :24:03.that impresses me so much. At ringside, the thing that amazes me

:24:04. > :24:09.and fascinates me and intrigues as. Her footwork is almost balletic. She

:24:10. > :24:14.is so light on her feet. She really does float like a butterfly and

:24:15. > :24:19.sting like a bee. You watch her fight and she could be doing any

:24:20. > :24:26.sport. She has such natural athletic ability. It is boxing's good fortune

:24:27. > :24:31.that she is in the ring. After the fight I asked her, it is a bit like

:24:32. > :24:38.Usain Bolt at the start of the 100 metres. He feels there is more to

:24:39. > :24:43.being a runner than just running. He has two entertain the crowd, VA

:24:44. > :24:49.showman. Bring the sport to the widest possible constituency. When

:24:50. > :24:53.you watch Nicola in the ring, she is smiling the whole time, even though

:24:54. > :24:58.there is serious stuff to be done. She has a way of engaging with the

:24:59. > :25:03.crowd. She has the way of saying, I am part of you and you are part of

:25:04. > :25:09.me. The effect that Nicola Adams is having is huge. You would say that

:25:10. > :25:16.already, three days into it, already it feels that the women's bouts have

:25:17. > :25:20.been in the Commonwealth Games scheduled for years. It doesn't feel

:25:21. > :25:28.like a novelty. It is an established sport. Talking about Nicola Adams. A

:25:29. > :25:33.great performance she put into day. Let's talk about the men tonight.

:25:34. > :25:39.They have been doing really well. The home nations and territories in

:25:40. > :25:42.the boxing. You have got the headphones because it is

:25:43. > :25:46.unbelievably noisy and the support is clearly going to be good for the

:25:47. > :25:53.Scottish boxers. For all of the home nations, it is allowed and loud. One

:25:54. > :25:57.of the great things, there was a lot of talk before the games began about

:25:58. > :26:07.how the Scottish crowd would respond to other home nation athletes. I was

:26:08. > :26:14.lucky enough to be at Bray Ibrox -- to be at Ibrox. It was extraordinary

:26:15. > :26:21.to be there with people shouting for England and Wales. Obviously, the

:26:22. > :26:25.support for the Scottish boxers is the greatest, that goes without

:26:26. > :26:31.saying. A couple of the fighters today were Glaswegian. Everybody in

:26:32. > :26:35.the auditorium knew them personally. The great thing about how

:26:36. > :26:39.fair-minded the crowds have been is that English fighters, fighters from

:26:40. > :26:45.Northern Ireland and Wales have had brilliant support from this packed

:26:46. > :26:51.auditorium. From the very first session. 4500 people in here. That

:26:52. > :26:55.is what is making the event so special. It is also what is

:26:56. > :27:00.encouraging the home nation performance to get the best of their

:27:01. > :27:05.ability and as a consequence, Scotland, England, Wales and

:27:06. > :27:08.Northern Ireland had so many fighters in the latter stages. In

:27:09. > :27:15.every weight division. There fighters in the latter stages. In

:27:16. > :27:16.aerial view of the ring. Very shortly we are going to have

:27:17. > :27:23.first fighters in the ring, including Ashley Williams from

:27:24. > :27:43.Wales. We are in the light flyweight category. COMMENTATOR: Welcome to

:27:44. > :27:53.session 12 at the SECC. This is day six. We are starting off with the

:27:54. > :27:58.quarterfinals in the smallest division of all. The men's light

:27:59. > :28:17.flyweight division. Plenty of home interest. Coming up akeel Ahmed from

:28:18. > :28:29.Scotland and then the Northern Irishman, the exciting Paddy Barnes.

:28:30. > :28:30.Once again a terrific crowd here in this purpose-built arena in the

:28:31. > :29:05.middle of the SECC. Ashley Williams from Wales, the

:29:06. > :29:17.23-year-old soldier born in Bridgend. Residing now in Tidwor,

:29:18. > :29:23.Tidworth. His coach is having a few last words with him. It has been

:29:24. > :29:30.well documented, the campaign did not get off with the best of the

:29:31. > :29:51.starts, Freddy Evans refused accreditation. Five judges at ring

:29:52. > :30:05.side. The referee is from Columbia. Now it is time to meet the boxers.

:30:06. > :30:15.First representing Malaysia, it is Muhammad Redzuan. And across the

:30:16. > :30:32.ring in the blue corner, representing Wales! Ashley Williams!

:30:33. > :30:45.The referee from Columbia. Three, three minute rounds. Final

:30:46. > :30:51.instructions from the referee who is from Columbia. Special attention

:30:52. > :30:54.being made to the use of the head, for the first time in the

:30:55. > :31:02.Commonwealth Games there are no head guards. A place then in the medal

:31:03. > :31:07.stage in the semi finals await the winner of this one. We have a

:31:08. > :31:12.southpaw in the man in red representing Malaysia, in his second

:31:13. > :31:20.Commonwealth Games, Muhammad Redzuan. And another soldier, the ot

:31:21. > :31:27.docks boxer -- orthodox boxer in blue is Ashley Williams from Wales.

:31:28. > :31:34.He got to the later stages of the World Championships in Kazakhstan

:31:35. > :31:44.last year. He came through against a boxer from Mozambique. Wales and

:31:45. > :31:54.Ashley Williams in blue and Wails Malaysia with Mohd Redzuan in red.

:31:55. > :31:59.The last time he got the tactics right and similarly here, he has got

:32:00. > :32:03.to get the tactics right against a southpaw who sits back. Williams

:32:04. > :32:09.likes to be busy and move in and out. But is in Malaysian is a tricky

:32:10. > :32:13.customer also. He doesn't come forward often. He sits on that back

:32:14. > :32:18.foot. Williams has got to trigger him off and make him lead and come

:32:19. > :32:23.back at him or close him down with fast feet sboo position and then --

:32:24. > :32:28.into position and then throw the shots. The third contest for the

:32:29. > :32:40.Malaysian who is competing in his second Commonwealth Games. Four

:32:41. > :32:47.years ago in Delhi, he won his opening contest but lost to Singh

:32:48. > :32:52.from India. Williams trying to hope his man will stop moving so he can

:32:53. > :33:04.land something. That will not happen I don't think. Williams will need to

:33:05. > :33:10.tie him up. The fella in red will try and frustrate Williams, make him

:33:11. > :33:14.lead with his shots and go back at him, catch him on the counter. This

:33:15. > :33:19.is where Williams needs to work. But he needs to throw punches in threes

:33:20. > :33:27.and fours. That was better. He got his opponent to hold his feet. That

:33:28. > :33:34.what is he has got to do. Good defensive work by Redzuan. He only

:33:35. > :33:38.shipped one pump and Williams would -- punch and Williams would be

:33:39. > :33:42.hoping to get three or four. At the moment you fancy the man in red to

:33:43. > :33:52.have taken this round. Williams will be pushing home in the last few

:33:53. > :33:56.seconds if he can. A fast left hand into the mid rift from the Malaysian

:33:57. > :34:02.into Ashley Williams. Not a bad round. A very brisk round. Williams

:34:03. > :34:08.pats the hands together, do you think he has won this? It was a

:34:09. > :34:13.frustrating round for Williams. Colin Jones will know he needs to

:34:14. > :34:19.get to this man and close him down. He had the opportunity, but he

:34:20. > :34:25.didn't find the quality of shots. He has got to throw threes and fours.

:34:26. > :34:31.He just gets caught to the body. But this Malaysian is tricky. He sits

:34:32. > :34:38.and moves and I think the man in red got it. The two judges have gone for

:34:39. > :34:56.Mohd Redzuan, one has gone for Ashley Williams.

:34:57. > :35:05.The Malaysian is a bit rusty, but I think he said give him the old one

:35:06. > :35:26.two. One judge well for Ashley Williams in this quarter-final.

:35:27. > :35:37.Williams has to try and get inside. Mohd Redzuan hanging on to the

:35:38. > :35:43.Welshman's armament a good spot by the referee. That was a shove. That

:35:44. > :35:48.was a shove. He is just a bit eager to go forward here, Williams. I want

:35:49. > :35:55.him to go forward, but he has got to do it in the form of a double jab,

:35:56. > :35:59.or two or three or four jabs to close him down. Then when you get

:36:00. > :36:04.there, work. That is better. Now he has got to find room and space on

:36:05. > :36:08.the inside. That will be difficult if this Malaysian keeps wanting to

:36:09. > :36:12.hold. He is going to have watch himself, Redzuan. That is the second

:36:13. > :36:17.caution he has got. He has not got a warning yet. But he has been

:36:18. > :36:21.cautioned a couple of times for one or two indiscretions. A better right

:36:22. > :36:26.hand by Williams. That is the best shot he has thrown and we are more

:36:27. > :36:33.than now half way through the second round. Williams coming forward.

:36:34. > :36:38.Better by Williams. Good chopping little lefts. They may not have

:36:39. > :36:42.landed, but they have kept his opponent honest. I think that will

:36:43. > :36:47.have impressed the judges, working the body, the judges are preferring

:36:48. > :36:52.boxers who are going forward. If he is working down stairs, they will, I

:36:53. > :36:54.think they will find for him. That is better from Williams. The

:36:55. > :37:00.movement from the Malaysian has slowed down and he is not throwing

:37:01. > :37:06.out those long range shots. Williams is maybe getting to him and the

:37:07. > :37:11.chance to really get to his man. He let him off the hook there again. He

:37:12. > :37:15.is doing well, in he is slowing Redzuan's feet down and making his

:37:16. > :37:27.hold his feet. But he has got to maximise it and work the body.

:37:28. > :37:36.Redzuan seems to have found a second gear. Again a bit of illegality,

:37:37. > :37:44.hitting around the back of the head. Williams chasing him down. Clever

:37:45. > :37:49.use of the shoulder by Mohd Redzuan. Better stuff inside by Williams. A

:37:50. > :37:55.couple of shots to the ribs and a slip to the head. The body shots now

:37:56. > :38:01.scoring. A good right hand to the chin. I think he may have taken this

:38:02. > :38:08.round. And then it will all to box for in the third and final round.

:38:09. > :38:14.Williams caught up with him and when he does catch up with him, he is the

:38:15. > :38:19.better man. He stepped on the gas and started to find the quality

:38:20. > :38:23.punches. Good straight left hand there. His opponent is a bit

:38:24. > :38:26.punches. Good straight left hand and reckless. But that 30 or 40

:38:27. > :38:29.seconds could have been enough to take the round. He started to work

:38:30. > :38:35.well to the body. Let's have a look at the scores. Yes, Williams has got

:38:36. > :38:40.it. That means that Williams is ahead on one judge's card. The

:38:41. > :38:45.others have it even. You cannot score a contest even. You can't

:38:46. > :38:49.score a round even. If you win a round you get 10 points, the loser

:38:50. > :39:06.gets from 9 down to 6. The man in blue representing Wales

:39:07. > :39:11.in this first of the light fly weight quarter-finals, Ashley

:39:12. > :39:15.Williams, conceded the first round. But won the second. So it is

:39:16. > :39:25.everything to box for. A good left hand by Williams.

:39:26. > :39:36.A crucial period this now. Redzuan landed with a good shot. He looked

:39:37. > :39:41.to be tiring at the end of that second round. But it was that

:39:42. > :39:49.movement and his awkward southpaw style that caused Wasps problems.

:39:50. > :39:52.The -- Williams problems. The Malaysian's movement isn't good for

:39:53. > :40:00.me. He goes from corner to corner and holding his feet. A couple of

:40:01. > :40:06.cracking body shots by Williams. Again Redzuan pressing his

:40:07. > :40:13.opponent's head down. Williams has got to step it up here and catch his

:40:14. > :40:17.man. Again the Malaysian is holding. What will the referee do about that?

:40:18. > :40:25.Nothing is the answer, apart from break them up. Williams did the

:40:26. > :40:38.better work on the inside. Great stuff by Williams.

:40:39. > :40:48.The Welshman stalking him and Mohd Redzuan running.

:40:49. > :40:53.That is better from Williams. We have seen it by these judges, they

:40:54. > :40:57.don't like a boxer going on the back foot all the time. You have got to

:40:58. > :41:02.go forward and it is Williams that is pressing room. He is starting to

:41:03. > :41:07.rough him up a bit and Redzuan showing signs of tiredness now. One

:41:08. > :41:16.good shot from Williams could change things. I think Williams is doing

:41:17. > :41:21.enough to steal it. Williams can't afford to concede anything in the

:41:22. > :41:28.way of clean shots. Redzuan is tiring. Williams is winning this,

:41:29. > :41:33.there is nothing coming back from Mohd Redzuan in terms of him pushing

:41:34. > :41:40.Williams back. He is on the retreat all the time. Wasps turning it on.

:41:41. > :41:45.-- Williams turning it on. He got him to the body with a good left

:41:46. > :41:50.hand. Redzuan has escaped, but Williams is all over him. A great

:41:51. > :41:54.finish and Williams I feel, having conceded the first round, squared it

:41:55. > :41:59.up in the second is taking the third round with a wee bit to spare. A

:42:00. > :42:03.great last three minutes from Williams. He reckons he has got it.

:42:04. > :42:10.I think he has got it. I think he has got it. He want ed to win that

:42:11. > :42:14.contest. More than his opponent. He kept pressing. Yes, he got caught

:42:15. > :42:19.here and there. But the fella in red didn't come forward at all. And the

:42:20. > :42:23.way they're judging, they like you to come forward. Williams did all

:42:24. > :42:27.the pressing. Did the better work to the body. Found the quality shots.

:42:28. > :42:31.Catches his opponent with the right hand left hook and he is back after

:42:32. > :42:42.him again. The bell goes. Williams knows he has got it and I think he

:42:43. > :42:55.has. This would be a terrific victory should his hand be raised.

:42:56. > :43:01.We have our judges scorecards all in agreement, through to the next

:43:02. > :43:15.round, the winner in the blue corner, Ashley Williams! He has got

:43:16. > :43:20.it. Impossible for Ashley Williams to disguise his emotions. What a

:43:21. > :43:30.great last round by the little Welshman. He has done really well.

:43:31. > :43:38.Brilliant. He wanted it more. He clearly wanted to win that contest

:43:39. > :43:45.more than his opponent. Nice polite opponent that he is, he says, after

:43:46. > :43:51.you son. Then he waves his arms to say this is my contest. Well done by

:43:52. > :43:57.Williams. Almost knocking down the rest of the Welsh coaching team. He

:43:58. > :44:10.is a very happy little Welshman. If my eyes don't deceive me, he has

:44:11. > :44:15.been brought over to speak to John. I thought you were going to burst

:44:16. > :44:29.into floods of tears. Well done. Yes. A gold-medal. As I promised for

:44:30. > :44:38.my kids. I am chuffed to bits. Sorry. I am so emotional. Don't

:44:39. > :44:44.apologise. Did you know it was one round each in the final round? I

:44:45. > :44:51.didn't know anything. I just tried to put the pressure on. He was too

:44:52. > :44:58.tricky. I can't get my words out. I can't believe it. My wife has made

:44:59. > :45:07.it tonight and my mum. Are they the ladies with the fly? With the red

:45:08. > :45:16.hair, jumping around. They are my team all the way. Your work is not

:45:17. > :45:23.done yet. I am on the podium. I just want to get the medal. I just want

:45:24. > :45:34.to wish luck to all of the British teams. Well done. Many

:45:35. > :45:41.congratulations, Ashley. A very happy and emotional Welshman. To the

:45:42. > :45:55.Scottish entry. In this very competitive light flyweight

:45:56. > :46:09.division. 21 years of age. Ahmed. Another soldier and a very fancied

:46:10. > :46:23.boxer in this division. Boxed in the Olympic Games a couple of years ago.

:46:24. > :46:33.Ahmed born in Dundee. A resident of Motherwell in Lanarkshire. Not too

:46:34. > :46:45.far away. These are the judges. Three of them will be selected

:46:46. > :47:04.randomly to score the contest. 33-minute rounds of boxing.

:47:05. > :47:30.Representing Scotland, Aqeel Ahmed. In the blue corner, representing

:47:31. > :47:40.India Devendro Laishman. COMMENTATOR: The Scots boxer Aqeel

:47:41. > :47:53.Ahmed is a little bit taller but the opponent is a lot more experienced.

:47:54. > :48:03.In the first round, they both had a bye. Aqeel Ahmed beat a Kenyan in

:48:04. > :48:12.the second round. It was lovely to hear his Welsh counterpart wish him

:48:13. > :48:18.all the best. But he has a big task to get past the experienced Indian

:48:19. > :48:23.boxer. Very tough indeed against this fella in blue. Another of these

:48:24. > :48:29.very talented Indian boxer. They have a good team here. They have

:48:30. > :48:33.changed their whole system in India and we see them doing well at

:48:34. > :48:38.tournaments all over the world. Aqeel Ahmed is taller, he has the

:48:39. > :48:54.tools to do it. That was nice, a lovely 1-2. Lovely long range work.

:48:55. > :49:04.Good shot by the Scotsman. Again, a good uppercut. Nice variation by

:49:05. > :49:07.Aqeel Ahmed. A smaller opponents. Around the corner, that was

:49:08. > :49:16.delivered well with the knuckle of the glove. The gloves used to have

:49:17. > :49:22.white patches to indicate the the glove. The gloves used to have

:49:23. > :49:28.part. They have done away with that. They have done away with the head

:49:29. > :49:31.guard as well. I have two say, Aqeel Ahmed is boxing very nicely against

:49:32. > :49:38.one of the favourites of the tournament. His timing is spot-on.

:49:39. > :49:44.He is coming in fairly straight. A lovely left hook. I like these

:49:45. > :49:50.right-handers. He needs to get off the ropes. It is all about accuracy.

:49:51. > :49:59.He is finding quality work. Super uppercut. He had his hands up and

:50:00. > :50:04.his elbows well tucked in. The referee from Algeria breaks them.

:50:05. > :50:09.The last 30 seconds or so. A good opening round by the bigger of the

:50:10. > :50:18.team in representing Scotland. The Indian. The referee lets them just

:50:19. > :50:24.work it out. That was a good uppercut by Devendro Laishram. He

:50:25. > :50:38.got his timing wrong there and that is how he got caught. That is

:50:39. > :50:43.better. Battering away. A good left-hander at the end but the Bell

:50:44. > :50:50.had gone. I have a funny feeling that the Scotsman has won this

:50:51. > :50:54.round. He boxed very well. He wasn't overawed by his much more

:50:55. > :50:59.experienced opponent. He got the timing right. This Indian is going

:51:00. > :51:08.to keep going, he is a strong guy in deed. But this fella might have the

:51:09. > :51:13.right shots. Walks into that one. But had some success of his own with

:51:14. > :51:19.that right hand. Generally, Aqeel Ahmed fought very well, on the

:51:20. > :51:31.inside also. Let's have a look at the scores. It will be interesting.

:51:32. > :51:50.2-1. It was close. All to play for. All to box for. The first round just

:51:51. > :51:54.about to the 22-year-old from India. Got to the quarterfinals of the

:51:55. > :51:59.Olympic Games a couple of years ago. Quarterfinals of the World

:52:00. > :52:06.Championships. Runner-up in the Asian Championships. Rated number

:52:07. > :52:15.three in the world. His opponent, the taller of the two. Big compared

:52:16. > :52:21.to the Indian. Scotland's Aqeel Ahmed boxed very well in the first

:52:22. > :52:27.round. He needs to get the jab out and speed up the following right. He

:52:28. > :52:32.has to concentrate on not letting this fella close down the gap.

:52:33. > :52:37.Plenty of jabs. There you go, you cannot set for the attack if the jab

:52:38. > :52:41.is in his face. That is what he should be doing. He should be fast

:52:42. > :52:55.and accurate. Do not let this fella in on the inside. He has got to go

:52:56. > :53:03.back to long range. That was better. He is quick to the first punch. A

:53:04. > :53:14.good uppercut as he came in by Aqeel Ahmed. This is when you have to push

:53:15. > :53:18.him back now and again. Now and again, just stepped in. That is

:53:19. > :53:39.better. Keep in there. Long straight arms. Don't go back. Keep him off

:53:40. > :53:44.balance. A good little right hand by the man in red. He needs to get the

:53:45. > :53:52.uppercut in if he possibly can. He is getting caught, though. Devendro

:53:53. > :54:02.Laishram landing a few good shots. Again, that wasn't with the correct

:54:03. > :54:07.part of the glove. Eight close round again but the aggressor has been

:54:08. > :54:18.Devendro Laishram. A good right hand by him. He believed felt that. Now

:54:19. > :54:23.finding his man with single shots. I think Ahmed has done his fair share

:54:24. > :54:34.of good work in this round. That is better. That has got him. He is

:54:35. > :54:40.caught with the left hook. His guard went missing for the first time in

:54:41. > :54:46.this contest. Aqeel Ahmed finds himself on the seat of his pants.

:54:47. > :54:52.Oxon. There is the end of the second round. What a calamitous finish it

:54:53. > :54:58.was. What a very good shot it was by Devendro Laishram. Aqeel Ahmed will

:54:59. > :55:08.have two clear his head. He knows it is a big task. That shot probably

:55:09. > :55:16.sealed the round for the Indian. A cracking punch. Just gets caught

:55:17. > :55:23.with the left hook. A super punch. He did not want to get up. You can

:55:24. > :55:32.see his head just twist. A cracking punch. Brilliant technique. He is a

:55:33. > :55:39.strong guy. Up until then, it was a very close round. I think Ahmed did

:55:40. > :55:46.well. That probably sealed it for Devendro Laishram. All three judges

:55:47. > :55:56.giving the round to the fella coming out of the blue corner. This will be

:55:57. > :56:00.the decider. The world number three showed why he is rated so highly

:56:01. > :56:06.with that beautiful left fork towards the end of the second round.

:56:07. > :56:15.It put the Scotsman in red, Aqeel Ahmed, on the seat of his pants. Can

:56:16. > :56:23.Devendro Laishram do it again. Ahmed sensibly covering up. He has got to

:56:24. > :56:28.get back to buzzing. He has got to move off to the side occasionally.

:56:29. > :56:33.Keep its long and then move off to the side. Just holding his feet.

:56:34. > :56:42.That suits the Indian. Closing back gap down. Good footwork by Ahmed. He

:56:43. > :56:53.turned his man nicely but he hasn't capitalised. Just falling a bit

:56:54. > :56:58.short with the jab and the right. Throwing those long shots just keeps

:56:59. > :57:04.his opponent off balance. It is difficult with the straight shots

:57:05. > :57:12.coming at him. A real test now for this young Scot. There is that

:57:13. > :57:24.left-hander game. Not quite as decisive as the other one. -- left

:57:25. > :57:33.hand again. It is just slipping away from Aqeel Ahmed. He has had the

:57:34. > :57:39.stuffing knocked out of him. Devendro Laishram was always the

:57:40. > :57:45.favourite to progress in this competition from the top half of the

:57:46. > :57:53.draw. Body and head now from Devendro Laishram. Ahmed has slowed

:57:54. > :57:59.right down. He is getting caught. He is doing his best but he is not

:58:00. > :58:02.really moving. The movement has gone and it is allowing Devendro Laishram

:58:03. > :58:14.to close the gap. He is confident now. He is really showing that now.

:58:15. > :58:25.Survival now is on the mind of Aqeel Ahmed. Unless he can find a

:58:26. > :58:30.conclusive knockout punch. Many positives to take from this contest

:58:31. > :58:33.for Ahmed. He is going out of the tournament but he

:58:34. > :58:35.for Ahmed. He is going out of the ranked boxer and he has performed

:58:36. > :58:40.quite well. ranked boxer and he has performed

:58:41. > :58:43.that really tired him. But he is still there. He has not

:58:44. > :58:48.that really tired him. But he is in this contest. Lots of skills

:58:49. > :58:53.demonstrated by Aqeel Ahmed. But that shot at the end of the second

:58:54. > :58:58.round and his all-round aggression means that the world number three

:58:59. > :59:06.has gone through into the semifinals of this competition. He did his

:59:07. > :59:13.has gone through into the semifinals and he did Scotland proud, I am to

:59:14. > :59:18.say. A good performance considering the experience he has got. He is

:59:19. > :59:24.just holding his feet there. You cannot do that with somebody as

:59:25. > :59:34.experienced as Devendro Laishram. He picked his shots. Overall, he was

:59:35. > :59:36.the better boxer. That left foot at the end of the second changed the

:59:37. > :59:42.contest completely. -- left hook. Your winner, by unanimous decision

:59:43. > :59:48.and now Your winner, by unanimous decision

:59:49. > :59:55.through to the light flyweight semifinal, in the blue corner

:59:56. > :00:00.representing India, Devendro Laishram! He has got it. One of the

:00:01. > :00:08.fancied boxes for the gold medal as come through against Aqeel Ahmed. I

:00:09. > :00:12.am sure we will see more of him but not in this tournament. We will see

:00:13. > :00:21.a lot more of the man who has won this contest, the 22-year-old from

:00:22. > :00:31.Delhi. He goes through to contest for the medals. Very pleased about

:00:32. > :00:35.that. There is always a turning point in any sporting contest and it

:00:36. > :00:41.was that fairly hefty punch towards the end of the second round which

:00:42. > :00:44.put Aqeel Ahmed on the seat of his pants. He did so well to recover and

:00:45. > :00:52.he is speaking to John. It looked like it was even Steven

:00:53. > :00:57.until that punch at the end of the second. I can't actually remember

:00:58. > :01:02.it, I was just sat on the floor. Just a big shot and he is a big

:01:03. > :01:09.puncher and he caught me with one. I felt quite comfortable. What can you

:01:10. > :01:17.do? Did it take the stuffing out of you? Kind of. When you know you are

:01:18. > :01:24.two rounds down, you need a knockout or a point deduction I wasn't going

:01:25. > :01:31.to get that. You get all your hard, thanks for talking to us -- all you

:01:32. > :01:34.had. Paddy Barnes is coming into the ring now and there is a huge sense

:01:35. > :01:38.of expectation in the arena.
