:00:45. > :00:52.Hudson Smith goes again, he tries to find something extra, can he hold

:00:53. > :00:54.on, Brown is still there, Hudson Smith might just make it and he

:00:55. > :01:09.takes the gold medal! Jo Pavey is still hanging on, 40

:01:10. > :01:15.years of age and here she comes. The Kenyans -- the Kenyan will win, but

:01:16. > :01:26.a bronze medal for Jo Pavey. Brilliant performance. It is good,

:01:27. > :01:30.Sally Peake absolutely superb! Here comes Usain Bolt, he has the baton

:01:31. > :01:37.in his hands, streaking away, Thomson chasing, but Usain Bolt

:01:38. > :01:47.takes the title. He came, he conquered. Welcome back, we have 30

:01:48. > :01:52.minutes on the final Saturday of the Commonwealth Games. It has been a

:01:53. > :01:57.fabulous day with Usain Bolt lighting up Hampden Park. I am

:01:58. > :02:03.delighted to welcome Amir Khan. If you were on BBC1, you will know I

:02:04. > :02:10.was talking to Tom Daley and I am going to resume that talk now.

:02:11. > :02:18.It was a brilliant performance this evening and I know you have changed

:02:19. > :02:23.your coaching regime and you are now training at the London Olympic

:02:24. > :02:28.swimming pool. I moved to London in January and started with a new

:02:29. > :02:34.coach. We have been working hard, changing techniques, working hard. I

:02:35. > :02:38.have changed lots of things and a fresh start and the new things we

:02:39. > :02:44.have been trying are starting to pay off back row. Things have not been

:02:45. > :02:49.that easy after the Olympics. Any athlete will tell you, after the

:02:50. > :02:53.Olympic Games, that first year is the most difficult year, getting

:02:54. > :02:59.back into training and for me in was riddled with injury and frustration.

:03:00. > :03:03.It was difficult. Getting back into the swing of things has been good. I

:03:04. > :03:10.have been successful at the World Series, a personal best, a couple of

:03:11. > :03:14.medals and now, to top it off with Commonwealth gold, I am happy. The

:03:15. > :03:23.Commonwealth Games has been good to you. Yes, my second Commonwealth

:03:24. > :03:27.Games title. Do you feel distance from the Commonwealth Games being in

:03:28. > :03:33.Edinburgh and Glasgow? The atmosphere here is pretty

:03:34. > :03:43.impressive, because they have their Fringe Festival. It is nice to be

:03:44. > :03:54.here. You would think we were in Glasgow. That is clever. It is

:03:55. > :03:58.written everywhere. Brilliant diving games for England. Ten medals

:03:59. > :04:03.altogether, for gold belt will -- four gold medals. British diving is

:04:04. > :04:08.in a strong place. We have topped the medals table, the most medals we

:04:09. > :04:12.have won at the Commonwealth Games, it shows the legacy of London 2012

:04:13. > :04:17.and hopefully the legacy from this Games, people are starting to shine

:04:18. > :04:22.and I think in ten years time, we could be the most dominant country

:04:23. > :04:25.at the Commonwealth Games and even in the Olympics. Speaking about

:04:26. > :04:32.youngsters, Matthew Dixon was impressive. Yes, he is amazing. He

:04:33. > :04:41.works really hard, his diving is great and he is one to look out for.

:04:42. > :04:50.We seem to have lost him. That is a shame. Let us turn to boxing, we

:04:51. > :04:53.have got Amir Khan waiting. We start with England's Olympic gold

:04:54. > :04:58.medallist, Nicola Adams who was fighting for the first ever

:04:59. > :05:01.Commonwealth women's title against Michaela Walsh. It was tight as we

:05:02. > :05:22.join the fourth and final round. Here we go and what a reception both

:05:23. > :05:27.boxers are receiving. Nicola Adams in blue, on her toes. On the back

:05:28. > :05:33.foot. Walsh hammering away with shots to the body. The fighters were

:05:34. > :05:39.at close quarters. 30 seconds gone in this opening round and Walsh is

:05:40. > :05:44.on the front foot. Adams is confident in the knowledge that she

:05:45. > :05:55.is ahead. Happy to keep it beyond range. Away from the aggressive

:05:56. > :06:04.intent of Michaela Walsh. Walsh, commanding centre ring. Adams

:06:05. > :06:12.operating out of the orthodox stance and that jab was effective. It is a

:06:13. > :06:18.furious exchange at close quarters, Adams ties up her opponent. Back

:06:19. > :06:23.into the red corner, gives her a couple of left hands. The referee

:06:24. > :06:27.speaks to Adams. She has to up the tempo if she is to make any

:06:28. > :06:33.impression on the judges. She has to make it clear on this round. She

:06:34. > :06:40.needs to work inside here. Adams making it difficult for Walsh.

:06:41. > :06:45.Inside the final 30 seconds, Walsh back onto the front foot, Adams

:06:46. > :06:53.content to keep it at range. It is at close quarters. They are trading

:06:54. > :06:59.blows. Walsh is patient. I suspect she will need one shot to bring

:07:00. > :07:10.about a finish. Not a berry common occurrence in women's Olympic style

:07:11. > :07:15.boxing. -- berry common. -- very. Both boxers raise their arms.

:07:16. > :07:20.Wonderful outcome judgement for Michaela Walsh but I suspect it is

:07:21. > :07:24.Nicola Adams, despite the warm embrace that Michaela Walsh is

:07:25. > :07:29.receiving, I suspect that is for a job well done in making the final.

:07:30. > :07:36.It is Nicola Adams who has secured the Commonwealth gold medal. Rather

:07:37. > :07:42.untidy fourth and final round. Walsh was patient. That was the pick of

:07:43. > :07:47.her punches. Landed flush on Adams. Michaela Walsh said it would be a

:07:48. > :07:52.dream come true to meet Nicola Adams in the ring today. She was not

:07:53. > :07:56.starstruck. She started confidently and I think she gave Nicola Adams a

:07:57. > :08:04.run for her money. I think it will be close. Nicola Adams is the world

:08:05. > :08:13.number one. Michaela Walsh awaiting the official announcement. We go

:08:14. > :08:21.into the rain with our judges' scorecards, a split decision --

:08:22. > :08:24.ring. She is now gold medallist and Commonwealth women's flyweight

:08:25. > :08:36.champion, in the blue corner, representing England, Nicola Adams.

:08:37. > :08:42.Can find joy expressed by Nicola Adams, the boxer from Leeds has

:08:43. > :08:49.completed an historic double. The Olympic champion from London 2012

:08:50. > :08:52.has just become the Commonwealth Games champion here at the first

:08:53. > :08:58.ever Commonwealth Games boxing Championship in Glasgow.

:08:59. > :09:05.You have done it again, another gold medal. Thank you. It has been an

:09:06. > :09:09.exciting journey. I would like to say thank you to all the supporters

:09:10. > :09:13.and everyone who has been to the arena and watching at home. They

:09:14. > :09:19.have made it a big and exciting experience. A cracking atmosphere.

:09:20. > :09:25.Yes, it was, everyone cheering, chanting for Yorkshire... Michaela

:09:26. > :09:29.Walsh thought she had won it. I thought that was a close

:09:30. > :09:35.competition. She is a great talent and she will do some good things in

:09:36. > :09:41.the future. I thought that I had the more eye-catching shots. Would you

:09:42. > :09:45.agree with that, Amir Khan? Yes, she was the cleaner fighter. She made

:09:46. > :09:52.good moves and created good openings. She was a lot more

:09:53. > :10:01.powerful. Did you find this hard to win than two years ago in the

:10:02. > :10:05.Olympics? To be honest, every fight is a tough battle, but I think now I

:10:06. > :10:10.have got a bigger target on my back, I am ranked number one in the

:10:11. > :10:17.world, everyone wants a piece of Nicola Adams. It will always be

:10:18. > :10:25.tough, every person I fight, I have to have my top game. They will

:10:26. > :10:30.perform 100%, 110%. You find MacCaig -- you found Michaela Walsh awkward

:10:31. > :10:33.to fight? We knew it would be close, we knew she was up for the

:10:34. > :10:38.competition. Once you're in the finals, you know they want to win

:10:39. > :10:44.the gold medal. It is a question of who wanted more. Great for women's

:10:45. > :10:50.boxing. Yes, definitely. I'm sure the gems will be full of girls

:10:51. > :10:55.wanting to be boxers and follow in Nicola's footsteps. She is doing a

:10:56. > :11:10.great job. Looking ahead to real, is that the target? Yes, that is the

:11:11. > :11:14.target for me -- Rio. We wish you well. Later in the afternoon,

:11:15. > :11:18.Charlie Flynn took on Joe Fitzpatrick in the lightweight

:11:19. > :11:24.division and what a day he had. The Scottish lightweight upset the Welsh

:11:25. > :11:31.man in the semi-finals in a split decision and he was in similar form

:11:32. > :11:35.against Fitzpatrick from Northern Ireland despite sustaining a cut

:11:36. > :11:41.over his eyes. Flynn was good value from his victory. There he goes to

:11:42. > :11:47.in his celebration. The Scottish crowd were on their feet.

:11:48. > :11:54.Afterwards, he spoke to our reporter. Amir Khan was there as

:11:55. > :11:58.well. Well done. That was fantastic. Thank you. It was awkward.

:11:59. > :12:05.well. Well done. That was fantastic. you need to be awkward. I was

:12:06. > :12:06.jumping in with shots, but I tried to work the Barbie --

:12:07. > :12:12.jumping in with shots, but I tried to work the Barbie work the body. It

:12:13. > :12:24.was hard. I am winded -- to work the body. I have been training for the

:12:25. > :12:28.past four years every morning. My mum did all my washing, fed me, I

:12:29. > :12:36.would not be here without my parents. The work that goes on in

:12:37. > :12:44.the background, no one will understand it. You might want to

:12:45. > :12:53.thank the Royal Mail! Yes! Once again, all the guys there. All the

:12:54. > :13:00.managers and all the crew. All the boys in there. You're the

:13:01. > :13:15.Commonwealth gold medallist, what is next? I do not know. I am not used

:13:16. > :13:21.to hearing that. Great stuff. Charlie is here. Here is Michael

:13:22. > :13:30.Conlan as well, he also won a gold medal. Charlie, had you calmed

:13:31. > :13:35.down. -- have you. I will be on a high for a week. Described to me

:13:36. > :13:40.what it is like to win? You hear the roar, you feel it in your chest, you

:13:41. > :13:45.hear everyone screaming, it makes you feel at home, you cannot let

:13:46. > :13:50.these people down. It is unbelievable. You know everyone is

:13:51. > :13:57.watching it. Everyone knows you. It is unbelievable. Did you surprise

:13:58. > :14:02.yourself? You go away and with the aim to win, but you do not think

:14:03. > :14:07.about it, you take baby steps, but at the back of your mind, you are

:14:08. > :14:16.going for the gold medal, but you want to be surprised. Were you

:14:17. > :14:23.surprised at the interview? It was insane! Who knows? I am quite scared

:14:24. > :14:29.to look at it. Some of the stuff I was coming out with, you know what I

:14:30. > :14:34.mean? You thank your mother for doing your washing! It is 20 -- you

:14:35. > :14:49.are 20, it is about time you started doing it yourself! Yes.

:14:50. > :14:55.Michael, as well, you won your gold medal today, one of two gold medals

:14:56. > :15:00.for Northern Ireland, Paddy Barnes won the other. And we have got some

:15:01. > :15:03.pictures of you. Tell us about your performance, you must be delighted?

:15:04. > :15:08.I was over the moon with my performance. I only came into the

:15:09. > :15:12.training camp two weeks before this, I was injured. It was really a big

:15:13. > :15:17.doubt whether I would be able to compete. In the end, I got two cuts

:15:18. > :15:23.during the competition as well. We can see that. You did give him some

:15:24. > :15:41.stick, though, didn't you? I just tried to keep the pressure on. I

:15:42. > :15:43.know I have the heart and determination to push anybody right

:15:44. > :15:47.to the last bell. Amir Khan, how impressed were you with these young

:15:48. > :15:51.men? I was very impressed. You but the Englishman, here's a good friend

:15:52. > :15:55.of mine, I had my money on him, but you did everything right. Your

:15:56. > :16:01.movement was good, your footwork was amazing. That in the common nations

:16:02. > :16:11.in as well. You look like a seasoned professional. The same with

:16:12. > :16:14.yourself. You looked like a seasoned professional in there. The pressure,

:16:15. > :16:17.the combinations, and how you defend as well. For both of you, your

:16:18. > :16:24.defence was amazing. And yourself, Nicola. Apart from the head-butt,

:16:25. > :16:31.which happens a lot. Over all, it was great performances from all

:16:32. > :16:34.three of you. Amir Khan, you are right at the top, so what advice

:16:35. > :16:39.would you give to them, stay amateur for a while? Yes, I think they

:16:40. > :16:44.should stay amateur for a little longer. It is much experience as you

:16:45. > :16:48.can. In two years' time, you have got the Olympic Games coming up, so

:16:49. > :16:54.it would be nice for you to get more experience and mature a little bit

:16:55. > :17:01.more. And then, maybe one day, you could turn professional. I am not

:17:02. > :17:07.sure about the women. I think it is more in America. Would you ever

:17:08. > :17:13.consider going over there? Yes, who knows? Make some big noise! And you

:17:14. > :17:20.guys, is that your ambition, to become professional boxers? It has

:17:21. > :17:24.always been a drive of mine. I was going to do it after my bronze in

:17:25. > :17:30.London, but I held off, and I was aiming for Rio. I am undecided after

:17:31. > :17:35.this. I will take a month off and looked at my options. And you,

:17:36. > :17:43.Charlie? I do not really know, I am just waiting to see what happens. I

:17:44. > :17:48.it is tempting, to go pro, but you get the medal, and you get the

:17:49. > :17:52.support. That is always going to be there. There will be promoters

:17:53. > :17:56.calling you up and stuff, but it is all about thinking about your

:17:57. > :18:00.future. And I think it is best to get as much experience in the

:18:01. > :18:04.amateur game. It is quite similar, you do not wear the head guards any

:18:05. > :18:09.more. I think it is best if you stay amateur for another couple of years.

:18:10. > :18:13.The Olympics are coming up. If you can go to the Olympics, and maybe

:18:14. > :18:18.win the gold, that makes you a superstar. What do you think about

:18:19. > :18:26.the fact that they do not wear headgear? Well, I think... With

:18:27. > :18:32.amateur boxing, the heads are always going to be clashing. Even as

:18:33. > :18:38.professionals, in training, you are always clashing heads. But we have

:18:39. > :18:42.fights every three or four months. You guys were fighting every other

:18:43. > :18:46.day. So if you got a cut on the first day, then you had to fight on

:18:47. > :18:50.the next day, and hope that the cuts did not open up again. I really

:18:51. > :18:56.think the head guards should come back. Barry McGuigan was completely

:18:57. > :19:05.the opposite, he thought they could see better. You're right, but look

:19:06. > :19:10.at the damage. Imagine if that happened in your first fight. I was

:19:11. > :19:16.cut in my first fight, yes, on the top of my head. You could have been

:19:17. > :19:21.knocked out of the tournament. That would have been unfair. One quick

:19:22. > :19:30.question - do any of you know anything about hockey? No. We will

:19:31. > :19:34.move on, then! It was the final of the women's tournament tonight, it

:19:35. > :19:36.was between Australia and England, and your commentators are Lesley

:19:37. > :19:51.Murdoch and Mel Clewlow. LESLEY MURDOCH: England rushing on

:19:52. > :20:03.to attack. It is in! It is 1-0 to England! And the Countess of Wessex

:20:04. > :20:10.is on her feet! What a finish by the 19-year-old. Who says that forwards

:20:11. > :20:32.cannot tackle?! That was just calmness and composure personified

:20:33. > :20:43.there by Owsley. And Australia have drawn level! It looks like we are

:20:44. > :20:58.going for a shoot out. Oh, and it just runs over the baseline. For the

:20:59. > :21:03.gold medal. Slips it in! Oh, my goodness me, Australia have pinched

:21:04. > :21:04.the gold medal! So much kudos to England. The game has been taken

:21:05. > :21:14.from under their noses. Australia, the Germany of hockey.

:21:15. > :21:19.Now, we have got some more boxing, and this is the men's

:21:20. > :21:27.superheavyweight. For England, Joe Joyce. For Australia, Joe Goodall.

:21:28. > :21:34.Joe Joyce is a fine arts graduate. Not surprisingly, he does not like

:21:35. > :21:38.to end up on this article canvas. Richie Woodhall and Ronnie

:21:39. > :21:47.Mackintosh am a painting the pictures with words...

:21:48. > :21:51.RONALD MCINTOSH: Reigning European Championship bronze medallist,

:21:52. > :21:57.demonstrating here that he has too much fitness, too much ring craft,

:21:58. > :22:01.too much punch, accuracy and power for Joe Goodall at this point.

:22:02. > :22:07.22-year-old is competing gamely, but he is being outboxed in just about

:22:08. > :22:13.every conceivable department. Not quitting, though. Trying to employee

:22:14. > :22:18.elusiveness in the no, corner, but look how he is being physically

:22:19. > :22:27.handled by Joe Joyce. His energy levels have been sapped either left

:22:28. > :22:33.jab, in particular, follow-up by big shots from the right. Joyce, back

:22:34. > :22:40.onto the front foot, stalking his man. Working once again with the

:22:41. > :22:43.left jab. Joe Goodall, continuing to move side to side, but there is

:22:44. > :22:48.precious little aggressive intent coming from the Australian. Not

:22:49. > :22:54.quite survival mode, but he is throwing very few punches.

:22:55. > :22:57.RICHIE WOODHALL: He switches to southpaw there, but he just cannot

:22:58. > :23:03.keep his man away from him. There is southpaw there, but he just cannot

:23:04. > :23:17.the odd desperate shot which we spoke about, from Joe Goodall. But

:23:18. > :23:21.this is super heavyweight boxing, and you never know what can happen.

:23:22. > :23:26.That is why you must concentrate right to the very end. Joe Joyce

:23:27. > :23:29.looks to be home and clear, but one punch in this division can change

:23:30. > :23:33.it, and it has happened so many times before. There it is, look. You

:23:34. > :23:41.never know, with superheavyweight boxing. He must concentrate. Do not

:23:42. > :23:46.get complacent, Joe Joyce. Inside the final minute, Joyce remains on

:23:47. > :23:51.the front foot, clothing away with hooks and uppercuts at mid-range.

:23:52. > :23:58.Goodall, you have to give him credit, because he is continuing to

:23:59. > :24:06.compete. That right hand was white on the button. He took so many clean

:24:07. > :24:10.punches in the first couple of rounds that he appears to have very

:24:11. > :24:17.little left, but he is digging deep, is the Australian. To refix

:24:18. > :24:26.all-round athlete, Joe Joyce, from south-west London. From the club

:24:27. > :24:30.where frank Bruno learned his trade. And Joyce ending this contest on the

:24:31. > :24:36.front foot. Goodall briefly thinking about fighting fire with fire, but

:24:37. > :24:43.paying a heavy price, and getting tanked with clean punches, as the

:24:44. > :24:48.contest ends. Joe Goodall deserves immense credit for lasting the three

:24:49. > :24:52.rounds and competing as keenly as he did, but there can be little doubt

:24:53. > :24:58.about the man who is about to be crowned the new champion, Joe Joyce.

:24:59. > :25:07.ANNOUNCER: In the red corner, representing England, Joe Joyce!

:25:08. > :25:15.Joe Joyce takes a bow to the Glasgow crowd. And there it is!

:25:16. > :25:17.Demonstrating that horrific athleticism possessed by this big

:25:18. > :25:35.6ft 6 ins superheavyweight. And there is the medal table in the

:25:36. > :25:40.boxing, pretty impressive for the Home Nations. And three of those we

:25:41. > :25:47.have got with us this evening, which is fantastic. Amir, it is a really

:25:48. > :25:53.impressive performance from British boxers? It is amazing. If you look

:25:54. > :25:58.back at when I was in the Olympics, in 2004, there was only one person

:25:59. > :26:02.who qualified, which was myself. Now, we have got all of these young

:26:03. > :26:07.fighters. They have been doing so well, winning medals in the World

:26:08. > :26:15.Championships, the Commonwealths, England finishing up on top of the

:26:16. > :26:19.table. And the others behind them. It just shows that boxing is a very

:26:20. > :26:24.popular sport in Great Britain, and it is getting better and better. And

:26:25. > :26:30.it has been great for Scotland, the host nation? Yes, boxing in Scotland

:26:31. > :26:34.is quite small, but these Games have been a catalyst, and there has been

:26:35. > :26:38.a big boom, there have been a lot more boxers coming into the clubs

:26:39. > :26:43.since it got announced, more or less. The closer it got, the clubs

:26:44. > :26:49.were booming with all the young children coming in, everybody

:26:50. > :26:55.wanting to learn boxing. There is a lot to do with diet and nutrition as

:26:56. > :27:00.well. It is great for the children to get out into the clubs and learn

:27:01. > :27:08.about diet and nutrition and boxing. It is good for discipline, and it

:27:09. > :27:11.keeps them off the streets. Michael as well, back in Northern Ireland,

:27:12. > :27:16.it must be going down really well, because they have waited an awful

:27:17. > :27:25.long time for gold medals at these Games? It was the same at the last

:27:26. > :27:29.Games as well. It is a fantastic achievement for us. My father was

:27:30. > :27:36.the team coach, so it was even better for me and my family. You are

:27:37. > :27:40.used to all of this now, Nicola. Yes, I am not doing too bad,

:27:41. > :27:44.actually. How have you enjoyed the Commonwealth Games? It has been

:27:45. > :27:47.absolutely fantastic. The organisation of everything has been

:27:48. > :27:52.really good, really well-run, put together. The support has been

:27:53. > :27:56.fantastic. The crowds, the turnout, everybody watching at home. It has

:27:57. > :28:02.been a great Games for all of the athletes. And someone else who has

:28:03. > :28:05.been enjoying it, one Usain Bolt. We have got some pictures of him

:28:06. > :28:09.celebrating his gold medal this evening, heart of that four-man

:28:10. > :28:20.team, of course. What about those, Charlie?! He is quite a character,

:28:21. > :28:25.Amir, isn't he wanted yes, and he can fast! I have never seen him

:28:26. > :28:32.live. I did not have the time to make it. A great athlete. It is

:28:33. > :28:38.great the way he is with the youngsters. Really inspiring for the

:28:39. > :28:47.youngsters to be able to interact with him. That is a proper selfie,

:28:48. > :28:55.that is. We can have a look at the overall medal table now. It is

:28:56. > :29:02.England's best ever Games by some considerable distance. Australia,

:29:03. > :29:12.who have topped the leaderboard in the past four Games, our next.

:29:13. > :29:18.Scotland, comfortable in their best ever. Well, that is it. The curtain

:29:19. > :29:24.comes down with tomorrow's closing ceremony. It has been rate to have

:29:25. > :29:27.your company, all of you. Thank you so much. From all of us, a very good

:29:28. > :29:32.night.
