:00:42. > :00:51.Hello, good afternoon and welcome to further coverage of the 2014

:00:52. > :00:52.Commonwealth Games, here in a very sunny Glasgow. This is what's coming

:00:53. > :01:00.up. We have reached the climax of the

:01:01. > :01:05.women's squash and two England stars are in the hunt for medals, Laura

:01:06. > :01:17.Massaro and Alison Waters. And the men are hoping to make it an England

:01:18. > :01:22.one - to -3. And our one to watch in the ring today is Northern

:01:23. > :01:27.Ireland's Michael Conlon taking on an Indian opponent in the men's

:01:28. > :01:31.bantamweight. Lots of great coverage for you on

:01:32. > :01:42.BBC Three and also on the red button. Every sport is available on

:01:43. > :01:49.the BBC Sport website. And there is coverage on BBC Radio Radio 5 live.

:01:50. > :02:24.We are concentrating this afternoon on the squash.

:02:25. > :02:31.Yes, we love the squash. Since 2012, the Scotstoun Stadium has been the

:02:32. > :02:36.official home of the Glasgow Warriors rugby team. Just superb

:02:37. > :02:40.squash here today and we have some superb match is to show you. Let's

:02:41. > :02:44.recap where we are in the men's singles. The first of the two

:02:45. > :02:49.semifinals yesterday saw Nick Matthew but Peter Barker and

:02:50. > :02:54.progress to the final. In the other semifinal, James Willstrop saw off

:02:55. > :03:04.an Indian opponent to set up an all English final. Matthew Pinsent has

:03:05. > :03:10.been getting the inside track on a huge day for squash.

:03:11. > :03:14.Welcome to Scotstoun for more squash. It's been a very busy week

:03:15. > :03:15.of squash here and now we're getting down to the knit a gritty of the

:03:16. > :03:20.singles competition. Kris Robertson, down to the knit a gritty of the

:03:21. > :03:27.you are England coach - what can we expect from England? Hopefully some

:03:28. > :03:32.medals. We got some chances in the bronze matches. The two men are

:03:33. > :03:37.going head-to-head in the gold-medal match and Laura Massaro is trying to

:03:38. > :03:43.add to her titles from last year and win the ladies. Let's concentrate on

:03:44. > :03:46.the men's bronze medal match. We'll Peter Barker be a bit disappointed,

:03:47. > :03:51.having not got through to the gold-medal match? I think there was

:03:52. > :03:55.a real disappointment last night but seeing him today, he realises he has

:03:56. > :04:00.another opportunity to get a medal and he is very motivated for that.

:04:01. > :04:04.He has a good chance today, I think. His performance levels have been

:04:05. > :04:09.good. Nick was just a better player on the day. We're very positive and

:04:10. > :04:13.I hope Peter is. For those who are watching squash for the first time,

:04:14. > :04:16.it seems from the outside quite technical, quite genteel and polite,

:04:17. > :04:21.but there is a whole different level to the sport, isn't there? I'm not

:04:22. > :04:27.sure polite was the atmosphere yesterday in some respects. It is

:04:28. > :04:31.gladiatorial. It is a glass box and it is a physical game because you

:04:32. > :04:36.are conducting players and you are working in the same vicinity so for

:04:37. > :04:39.the audience on TV, they see a different type of squash than what

:04:40. > :04:45.they might perceive it to be in the leisure centres. For squash more

:04:46. > :04:49.than any other sport, perhaps, the Commonwealth Games is the ultimate

:04:50. > :04:51.competition. Absolutely. It is not the Olympics, which is a big

:04:52. > :04:56.disappointment for the game, but this is their biggest stage. The

:04:57. > :05:00.press coverage, the BBC and the crowds mean the players are very

:05:01. > :05:06.much up for it. Let's take you to the bronze medal match.

:05:07. > :05:11.Lots of the back page headlines have been about the cycling on the track

:05:12. > :05:14.and in the pool but we have seen some incredible squash over the past

:05:15. > :05:18.few days so let's enjoy this one. Sit back, relax and enjoy Peter

:05:19. > :06:37.Barker taking on Sohrab Ghosh al. Saurav Ghosal is kind of renown. In

:06:38. > :06:42.a little slow. He's had a couple of five setters coming back from 2-0

:06:43. > :06:46.down. To you think that is part of the way he plays? He actually

:06:47. > :06:52.responds better when he is coming from behind? That seems to be the

:06:53. > :06:55.pace with Saurav Ghosal. It's difficult to say that is his tactic

:06:56. > :07:02.because he obviously doesn't want to go down or not have momentum at the

:07:03. > :07:09.start of the match but he's shown amazing grip. Great touches and

:07:10. > :07:15.flips and fast feet at the front of the court.

:07:16. > :07:21.As you reach towards the end of a game, it tends to be the style of

:07:22. > :07:26.the attacking player that wants to win the game and then the shotmaker

:07:27. > :07:30.can really use their fast feet and hands at the front so it's very hard

:07:31. > :07:43.to put away Saurav Ghosal. There is that front of court you

:07:44. > :08:42.were talking about. 4-well, the English man in charge

:08:43. > :08:47.right now. We saw how devastating Peter Barker's forehand has been in

:08:48. > :08:50.the last couple of rounds. Especially in the quarterfinal

:08:51. > :10:02.against Cameron Pilley of Australia. Great strength as we've seen there.

:10:03. > :10:16.No let given. Quite noticeable, the six feet frame of Peter Barker means

:10:17. > :10:19.it is quite difficult for Saurav Ghosal to make his way through.

:10:20. > :10:25.Peter Barker is an incredibly balanced athlete. He missed that

:10:26. > :10:35.slight reverse to just as it had the ball.

:10:36. > :10:57.A forehand from the middle of the court. Good reactions yet again.

:10:58. > :11:37.A nice bit of deception. It was the free wall -- the three walled boast.

:11:38. > :11:39.That is the join between the wall and the floor. Usually finishes the

:11:40. > :13:19.point. four corners of the cord being used.

:13:20. > :13:30.A better rally from Saurav Ghosal with a lot more bounce. But Peter

:13:31. > :13:38.Barker just one step away, using that forehand to great effect yet

:13:39. > :13:40.again. It takes him to 9-4. The first game point of this bronze

:13:41. > :13:44.medal again. It takes him to 9-4. The

:13:45. > :13:54.first game point of match, and it goes to Peter Barker.

:13:55. > :14:33.JASON MOHAMMAD: The number four seed Saurav Ghosal is in a very strong

:14:34. > :14:36.position to become India's first-ever Commonwealth Games squash

:14:37. > :14:42.medallist and he actually came back to level the match up at 1-1. Into

:14:43. > :14:52.Game three we go and it is currently 1-1.

:14:53. > :15:41.COMMENTATOR: A great change of direction.

:15:42. > :15:47.Saurav did very well in that rally, got Peter Barker off-balance. Had

:15:48. > :15:52.the opportunity to stick it in straight halfway through that rally,

:15:53. > :15:56.for the winner. Overdid it just a little bit. A nice ploy to break up

:15:57. > :17:16.the movement and pattern of Peter Barker.

:17:17. > :17:33.Peter Barker thinking he picked up that ball just fine. But the referee

:17:34. > :17:39.disagrees. Saurav Ghosal goes into a 3-1 lead.

:17:40. > :17:45.An interesting time at the start of this third game. Very

:17:46. > :17:50.psychological. No secrets anymore. Both players know the tactics they

:17:51. > :17:52.need to use. It is how well they managed to do it and nullify the

:17:53. > :18:04.strengths of the other player. Ah, yes, a lovely shot. He really

:18:05. > :19:15.took that ball deep to the back corner.

:19:16. > :19:23.Saurav managed to use his forehand volley and drop shot nicely. But

:19:24. > :19:46.Peter Barker is just deadly. He takes the lead in this third game.

:19:47. > :19:57.Saurav lost the run of a couple of points. He has asked for the

:19:58. > :20:04.cleaners to come on. Possibly, sometimes, to break up the play?

:20:05. > :20:08.It is possible. It could be used like that, like an injury break. I

:20:09. > :20:12.don't think that is the case necessarily this time.

:20:13. > :20:13.don't think that is the case these guys are running around,

:20:14. > :20:19.sweating. these guys are running around,

:20:20. > :21:22.want to risk injury. A commanding lead now. Saurav

:21:23. > :22:29.Ghosal, from 3-1 up, now 6-3 down. Peter Barker, very solid, that

:22:30. > :22:34.rally. We have seen the last couple of valleys he has managed to

:22:35. > :22:54.dominate. His best area is his forehand.

:22:55. > :23:18.A crucial time for both of these guys, this third game. Barker is

:23:19. > :23:59.coming out on top. Oh!

:24:00. > :24:04.A great shot by Saurav Ghosal. It of a desperation shot. Five points down

:24:05. > :24:08.in this third game. Maybe a little bit tired. He hasn't put up as much

:24:09. > :24:15.resistance in the last few valleys as he did in the second game. --

:24:16. > :25:18.rallies. Great touch from Saurav that drop

:25:19. > :25:25.shot. But then Peter Barker counter dropping.

:25:26. > :25:30.Strength of movement, one step away in every direction. Just incredible.

:25:31. > :26:11.Rolling around that shot. Keeping the ball tight to the wall.

:26:12. > :26:21.Another good finish from Peter Barker. Can't afford to leave it

:26:22. > :26:32.sitting up like that. He's just so aggressive.

:26:33. > :26:46.And a gift from Saurav. It gives Peter Barker the third game. He

:26:47. > :26:53.takes that Game 11-5 and leads two games to one game.

:26:54. > :27:00.On their previous five meetings, only on one occasion has it gone to

:27:01. > :27:07.five. So, it will be interesting to see whether or not Saurav can go

:27:08. > :27:24.back and come out in this match and take it to five.

:27:25. > :27:36.It was a noticeable diminished attack from Saurav Ghosal midway

:27:37. > :27:41.through that third game. He seemed a little bit tired, he was using the

:27:42. > :27:45.log so well in the second game over Peter Barker into his backhand,

:27:46. > :27:49.setting up the forehand volley for him. Punching in that drop shots and

:27:50. > :27:53.using his speed and bracket head control in the front of the court to

:27:54. > :28:01.clean up the point by finishing off the rally. We didn't really see that

:28:02. > :28:06.from Saurav. Allowed Peter Barker to use the strength and movement one

:28:07. > :28:12.step away, and the snap of the wrist. Incredibly dominant

:28:13. > :28:18.performance from Peter Barker. But very possible Saurav is feeling the

:28:19. > :28:25.effects of 25 set matches coming through to this stage of this

:28:26. > :28:46.tournament, this bronze medal match. Malcolm will stop, James will be

:28:47. > :28:53.competing later -- Willstrop. As I said before, Selrap goes all,

:28:54. > :28:57.only going to five with Peter Barker on one occasion. He wants to win

:28:58. > :29:18.this bronze medal, he will have to go to

:29:19. > :29:29.There we see His Royal Highness Prince Edward, here to support the

:29:30. > :30:06.squash event. Nice to see him here today.

:30:07. > :30:13.get himself back into this game? The tactic remains the same. He has to

:30:14. > :30:14.be very disciplined but his mind is making promises his body can't keep

:30:15. > :30:31.right now. That lob sets up the attack force or

:30:32. > :30:54.of. -- at tax for Saurav. Saurav Ghosal right now having to do

:30:55. > :30:59.a huge amount of work. Having had those two tough match running into

:31:00. > :31:05.this match, you do wonder whether or not he's running out of steam. One

:31:06. > :31:11.thing we have seen from him before is because he is such an amazing

:31:12. > :31:15.shotmaker, when he has gone down, the end may be inevitable. He has

:31:16. > :31:19.nothing to lose and then we see a flurry of amazing winners, which is

:31:20. > :31:26.possibly what would happen here. Yeah, a super finish and he's going

:31:27. > :32:29.to need to do plenty of that. Any player is entitled to wait as

:32:30. > :32:53.long as they want to play the ball. Saurav is handed at the point.

:32:54. > :33:00.Just on the left of your screen in the red tie is Andrew Shelley, the

:33:01. > :33:08.Chief Executive of the world Squash Federation.

:33:09. > :33:19.APPLAUSE Well, the forehand of Peter Barker

:33:20. > :33:32.dominant again. Certainly an area that Saurav needs to stay away from.

:33:33. > :34:48.A shout there from Saurav. He's really trying to egg himself on

:34:49. > :34:56.now. What a finish! That was a better point from Saurav go sell, --

:34:57. > :35:00.from Saurav Ghosal. He got control of the rally and finished off at the

:35:01. > :35:20.end. It will give Saurav a lot of hope here.

:35:21. > :35:29.Just clipping up there. You can't afford those up -- at this stage of

:35:30. > :35:45.the game. Again, that central part of the

:35:46. > :35:52.court - the can't leave it open at all for Peter Barker. He's getting

:35:53. > :36:03.across so solid. Again, the recoil back to the tea. A perfect shot.

:36:04. > :36:15.Again, the top of the tin. You just feel a possible bit of fatigue

:36:16. > :36:20.coming into play here now. Just three points away, Peter Barker,

:36:21. > :36:32.from retaining his bronze medal from Delhi.

:36:33. > :36:42.Yeah, super! It'll be amazing if Saurav Ghosal isn't feeling it in

:36:43. > :36:48.his legs right now as he is starting to attack from way behind his

:36:49. > :36:50.opponent. A nice shot but not against the movement and the balance

:36:51. > :37:09.of Peter Barker. Saurav not sure if that was out but

:37:10. > :37:10.Peter Barker confirming to his opponent that it definitely was and

:37:11. > :37:28.that gives him seven match points. Great play from Saurav at this stage

:37:29. > :37:52.of the game. Really nothing to lose now.

:37:53. > :37:58.Two in a row now for the player. You do feel that another

:37:59. > :38:22.five in a row is And a ball down by Peter Barker.

:38:23. > :38:44.Barker's lead dwindling away at the moment. Will it dwindle further?

:38:45. > :38:55.Well, what a shame to get that on a matchball! Peter Barker desperately

:38:56. > :39:00.wants this to be a stroke. I think we're going to video review. Saurav

:39:01. > :39:07.Ghosal using his challenge in this game. You can see he just gave

:39:08. > :39:11.Saurav just a little shove into the ball. Saurav wanted to recover back

:39:12. > :39:14.into the middle. If you were on the hot seat right

:39:15. > :39:25.now, Martin, where would you be going? There we go. Decision

:39:26. > :39:32.pending. Is this a bronze medal to Peter Barker? Yes, it is!

:39:33. > :39:38.CHEERING AND APPLAUSE So a repeat of the 2010 bronze medal

:39:39. > :39:48.match in Delhi, which at the same outcome. Peter Barker beating Saurav

:39:49. > :39:56.Ghosal to win the bronze medal, to a standing ovation here at the

:39:57. > :40:12.Scotstoun Sports Campus. And there we are. We see his wife there. I'm

:40:13. > :40:16.sure very, very proud. Lovely to win his medal in Delhi but I'm sure even

:40:17. > :40:21.better here, in front of what is almost a home crowd. His Royal

:40:22. > :40:28.Highness Prince Andrew has been taking in the excitement, and a

:40:29. > :40:33.really great display from Peter Barker and he takes the match 11-5,

:40:34. > :40:45.6-11, 11-5, 11-6. It wasn't altogether

:40:46. > :40:50.straightforward, was it? Far from it. It was pretty tight in the third

:40:51. > :40:58.game early doors, then I managed to put away the third and that was the

:40:59. > :41:03.difference today. I hung on for dear life. Every time there was a bitter

:41:04. > :41:08.argy-bargy and discussion, you seems to come out better. I'm glad you

:41:09. > :41:14.think so, cos I didn't! Was it winding you up? You don't need any

:41:15. > :41:19.more adrenaline than you've already got but when there is a stoppage,

:41:20. > :41:22.the ball goes a bit cold and, busy, that's where his shots suddenly come

:41:23. > :41:27.into it so I was very conscious of the fact that when there was based

:41:28. > :41:31.up which, whether it was the court being wiped, or the discussion with

:41:32. > :41:37.the referee, I was keen to maintain my gameplay. Bronze in Delhi, bronze

:41:38. > :41:43.here - is that consistent in a rewarding way or a frustrating way?

:41:44. > :41:46.A bit of both. In Delhi, I was delighted to get a bronze. I and

:41:47. > :41:53.alighted to get a bronze, having lost yesterday, but I had not so

:41:54. > :41:58.secret ambitions of doing better this time around, but not to be. I

:41:59. > :42:03.got drawn against Nick and he's not world champion for nothing.

:42:04. > :42:08.Difficult to big yourself up overnight for this match. Yes, a lot

:42:09. > :42:12.of than in Delhi but I have my mum and my wife with me and we had a

:42:13. > :42:17.quick chat yesterday and it is still a huge honour to play for bronze and

:42:18. > :42:24.I certainly felt the pressure and I guess the expectation a bit more

:42:25. > :42:29.today. But I'm absolutely delighted with bronze. Brilliant. Well done.

:42:30. > :42:34.Going into the mixed doubles? I haven't thought about it yet but now

:42:35. > :42:38.I can. Alison is playing. She is playing now and I'm going to have a

:42:39. > :42:41.good stretch and hopefully she can get bronze and maybe we can do

:42:42. > :42:45.better in the mixed doubles. Thank you very much.

:42:46. > :42:50.Congratulations to Peter Barker and we will be seeing Alison shortly on

:42:51. > :42:55.BBC One. Don't miss the all England gold medal match in the squash. It

:42:56. > :42:57.is going to be incredible. It's Nick Matthew taking on James Willstrop,

:42:58. > :43:04.later this afternoon. Do not miss that. Such a beautiful day out here

:43:05. > :43:07.in Glasgow. I'm going to take you out and about and show you what's

:43:08. > :43:17.going on because there is plenty of live-action this afternoon. Table

:43:18. > :43:19.tennis, live-action from Scotstoun. The number two seed faceless

:43:20. > :43:33.favourites, Singapore. The first singles match is on your screens

:43:34. > :43:38.now. And what a day to be a spectator out and about. Look at

:43:39. > :43:46.that beautiful scene, enjoying the sunshine at Kelvingrove. And what a

:43:47. > :43:50.climax and what a score. This cottage bed to go hard-fought last

:43:51. > :43:58.win over England en route to this final and judging from the current

:43:59. > :44:01.score, it seems to be a run in the sunshine. Our time is up by BBC Two

:44:02. > :44:04.but we are heading to BBC One in a few seconds.
