:00:23. > :00:33.Hello again. We are approaching the halfway stage and it has been a

:00:34. > :00:41.significant day with the Scotland smashing the previous record of

:00:42. > :00:44.delivering golds, whilst England give Australia a run for their money

:00:45. > :00:52.at the top of the medals table. And a chance for another England gold

:00:53. > :00:53.medal right now, they are playing Malaysia in the final

:00:54. > :00:56.a chance for another England gold medal right now, they are playing of

:00:57. > :01:03.the men's doubles badminton competition, if you wish to see it,

:01:04. > :01:08.it is on BBC Three right now, and very, very close. In netball,

:01:09. > :01:17.Northern Ireland taking on St Lucia. This is one of the final

:01:18. > :01:21.matches in pool B, it is all the go. But we will concentrate on

:01:22. > :01:29.gymnastics because it is the start of the artistic gymnastics today. A

:01:30. > :01:35.measure of how the profile has increased that some gymnastics stars

:01:36. > :01:41.are now par of the celebrity landscape Beth has been on dancing

:01:42. > :01:51.on ice. There is Smith has been on strictly. But for now, for him, it

:01:52. > :01:57.is back to the day job. It was amazing to be picked for the

:01:58. > :02:03.Commonwealth Games. But not an easy job. I had to kick up a fuss and get

:02:04. > :02:09.my name out of there. Coming back into it after a year and a half out

:02:10. > :02:14.definitely helped me. I was seen as somebody not taking it as seriously

:02:15. > :02:20.as other gymnasts. So I therefore had to put my foot down and say,

:02:21. > :02:26.look, I am not messing around. I have done this since I was four

:02:27. > :02:37.yours told. You need to take me seriously. -- four years old.

:02:38. > :02:56.Yes! Great Britain take bronze in the men's teams final. It is a time,

:02:57. > :03:03.16.066. People expected me to win gold. It

:03:04. > :03:09.was hard to explain. I had never had as much pressure and expectation as

:03:10. > :03:17.2012. When my experience was finished I felt physically and

:03:18. > :03:20.emotionally exhausted. Like I had absolutely nothing. It took

:03:21. > :03:28.everything out of me to keep myself used together, to keep myself

:03:29. > :03:31.strong. So when I finished I completely switched off from sport

:03:32. > :03:39.and just needed to recuperate in life. But I never wrote anything

:03:40. > :03:56.off. I never said I had retired. I left the door open in case I wanted

:03:57. > :04:09.to get back into it. Strictly was amazing. Just what I

:04:10. > :04:12.needed. I saw the boys and everyone around the world competing and still

:04:13. > :04:18.felt I could compete with the best so I got back into training. I came

:04:19. > :04:28.back mainly for the enjoyment of the team vibe, not with a point to

:04:29. > :04:35.prove. What a good performance from the

:04:36. > :04:39.16-year-old. Another Commonwealth medal would be

:04:40. > :04:48.amazing. It would leave me with hard decisions to make for the next

:04:49. > :04:56.couple of years. Is he close to where he was in 2012,

:04:57. > :05:00.Beth? He has proved himself and been

:05:01. > :05:09.selected. He is scoring high 15th, not far of Mac London. But he knew

:05:10. > :05:13.when he went to the World Championships last year, I was sat

:05:14. > :05:19.with him and he has got the fire in his eyes. He wanted to be back in

:05:20. > :05:24.with the boys. The rest of the squad seemed to move

:05:25. > :05:29.on and Whitlock seems to be the man who has taken over the celebrity

:05:30. > :05:33.mantle. It was always good to be difficult

:05:34. > :05:38.for him to come back in because the boys have so much strength and

:05:39. > :05:47.depth. He had to prove himself over numerous competitions.

:05:48. > :05:53.Has Max perhaps superseded the standards set?

:05:54. > :05:57.That is the great thing about British gymnastics, we constantly

:05:58. > :06:03.build on our results. We want bigger and better. Lewis has had to step

:06:04. > :06:09.back up to the mark and he has proved himself. The formal will be

:06:10. > :06:15.really interesting, he and Max going up against each other, and also

:06:16. > :06:21.Daniel Keating is Scotland. -- pommel horse. Let's see how they

:06:22. > :06:49.fare in the Hydro. We are up and running with Liam and

:06:50. > :06:56.Davey for Scotland. -- Leon -- Liam Davie.

:06:57. > :07:14.He just needs to get a little bit higher. Good control on the cross.

:07:15. > :07:26.Nicely done, smoothly up to the handstand.

:07:27. > :07:31.What a shame because that was a good routine. But a lack of confidence at

:07:32. > :07:42.the end. Tomorrow, the high bar. Just a

:07:43. > :07:52.reminder that this competition is split in two. Wilson put in such a

:07:53. > :07:58.mature performance on the floor. He is junior champion on this piece of

:07:59. > :08:13.apparatus. Lovely opener, making absolutely certain. Very confident.

:08:14. > :08:20.Two circles, into the Russian. The hand placement is a very precise,

:08:21. > :08:30.side-by-side, parallel. Very few gymnasts can achieve that. Maybe a

:08:31. > :08:34.double Russian, perhaps should have been an extra one but he has rescued

:08:35. > :08:40.it well. Very mature from Wilson, great performance. What an

:08:41. > :08:47.introduction to senior level for this man. Daniel Keating is has the

:08:48. > :08:58.highest pommel horse score with 14.533. A really controlled gymnast

:08:59. > :09:06.now, Wilson. Keating is just keeping an eye on the pommel horse score

:09:07. > :09:11.board. Frank Baines. Did not have much fun on the pommel horse but

:09:12. > :09:18.will do his best to enjoy the rings routine, as much as it will be

:09:19. > :09:37.hurting. Such a stylish gymnast, Frank Baines. Lovely work. Just

:09:38. > :09:43.fighting at the top of the handstand, but the swing onto

:09:44. > :09:51.straight arms was very good indeed. Feet locked together. Super

:09:52. > :10:00.somersault, double on front, very nice, really original!

:10:01. > :10:07.Scotland are back on track. He did well to produce that after a

:10:08. > :10:19.disappointment on pommel horse. Nigel Wilson, the third highest

:10:20. > :10:30.pommel horse score. Some hold on, next to go on this piece of

:10:31. > :10:39.apparatus. -- Sam Oldham. Certainly made it on the second of the two

:10:40. > :10:47.handstands. Very confident. That is very good. Very good work indeed.

:10:48. > :10:57.But he caught his legs and he has lost the swing. That is a problem

:10:58. > :11:09.for him and the English team. But, his all-around bid, he knows he

:11:10. > :11:17.cannot now afford any more mistakes. He really is a great normal horse

:11:18. > :11:25.worker and will be anxious to prove that. But he has lost the river and

:11:26. > :11:32.again slightly. If anything he attacked that slightly too much. --

:11:33. > :11:47.lost the rhythm. It feels to me like 2014 is his

:11:48. > :11:53.year. He has been in and out with his work. Hopefully that will not

:11:54. > :12:09.affect him here. Then Keating is. So many injuries

:12:10. > :12:26.throughout his career -- Dan Keatings. A good, light frame. He is

:12:27. > :12:40.strong. Lovely control. And really mature, strength wise. Really does

:12:41. > :12:48.not give very much weight to the deductions of the judges, dutifully

:12:49. > :12:58.locked together. Really keeping the difficulty level up. Wonderful to

:12:59. > :13:09.see him do so well. He has been a key gymnast in the British rise to

:13:10. > :13:24.fame on the world stage. Some shaking off their head from Sam

:13:25. > :13:36.Oldham. Now look who it is. Louis Smith is back at the pommel horse

:13:37. > :13:47.party. Smooth and easy. Two handstands, safely done. Will he go

:13:48. > :13:59.for a single Russian? Here comes the Russian... Right now. And a very

:14:00. > :14:16.nice indeed. He is looking good. Triple Russian all the way. Picking

:14:17. > :14:26.up. Her -- he will keep the rhythm, and very nicely done! What a superb

:14:27. > :14:34.comeback from Smith! He is back, and the world will have

:14:35. > :14:41.taken notice! Absolutely, showing his maturity. He has not just, for

:14:42. > :14:54.the party, but to show everyone he is still a great gymnast. Daniel

:14:55. > :15:03.Purvis will be up next. But what a moment that was for Smith and his

:15:04. > :15:17.family. Daniel Purvis, then. This is so important.

:15:18. > :15:42.He's becoming a very powerful gymnast, Daniel Purvis.

:15:43. > :15:55.He got the dismount. What a competition on, here. And it is all

:15:56. > :16:04.Franks to Purvis. It is a thriller. Louise Smith with an enormous 15.7.

:16:05. > :16:14.-- Louis Smith. And there is more in the locker. Certainly from a

:16:15. > :16:16.difficulty perspective. Max Whitlock. The standard just keeps on

:16:17. > :16:25.getting better. He has this style of his own. Almost

:16:26. > :17:09.laid-back and relaxed. He kept the rhythm, a flourish at

:17:10. > :17:15.the end. A big smile at the end. Louis appreciates it. He does. The

:17:16. > :17:20.competition is ardent between the two of them. Max Kier beat the lad

:17:21. > :17:26.who stole the Olympic gold from Louis Smith so what a final we are

:17:27. > :17:38.install for on the pommel horse. And great spirit in the teams. Louis a

:17:39. > :17:47.difficulty school of 6.9. Yuan about difficulty there, Chris. 6.9 from

:17:48. > :17:53.Louis but we also know that Max is in the sevens as well. I was

:17:54. > :18:00.interested to see the difficulty score for Louis today was 6.9.

:18:01. > :18:03.Daniel's will be higher than that. And he didn't need to go all out

:18:04. > :18:15.that he took the risk. He has got guts.

:18:16. > :18:19.We haven't seen that much of the Canadians on the floor, but that was

:18:20. > :18:32.lovely. Lovely control. Super height. Oh, but that was a

:18:33. > :18:40.deep landing and will be a deduction.

:18:41. > :18:52.Lots of strength in the handstand, the wide arm handstand.

:18:53. > :19:09.Double Arabian to finish. Just a little bit of a deep landing in the

:19:10. > :19:22.middle but that was classy work. His aid for the floral final. -- he's

:19:23. > :19:25.bid for the final of the floor work. Max Whitlock is ahead of Louis Smith

:19:26. > :19:44.right zero .033. This is the Canadian champion on

:19:45. > :19:46.this piece of apparatus, and he was in the final of the World

:19:47. > :20:27.Championships. That's unusual, go to strike -- to

:20:28. > :20:46.go straight leg into Japanese handstand.

:20:47. > :21:08.Twisting double to finish. World-class work. 14.933. It is a

:21:09. > :21:10.higher score than Kristian Thomas'. Let's have a look at the standings

:21:11. > :21:28.after two tensions. As a team, England lead Canada,

:21:29. > :21:34.ahead of Scotland, who have now moved up into third from fifth.

:21:35. > :21:44.We talked about the pommel and the rivalry between Louis Smith and Max

:21:45. > :21:49.Whitlock. Obviously Louis went just ahead of Max. He put his game pad,

:21:50. > :21:55.scored 15 points seven, and then Max knew the pressure was on. He wants

:21:56. > :22:00.to prove that he is contending Louis. Overall, how would you assess

:22:01. > :22:05.the quality of what we are seeing? On believable. Every single nation

:22:06. > :22:09.is pushing each other. The Commonwealth isn't necessarily as

:22:10. > :22:15.high a level is what our Olympic Games are, but the standard between

:22:16. > :22:20.Canada, Australia, England and Scotland, they are constantly

:22:21. > :22:26.looking around the arena, someone is scoring 15, so someone wants to

:22:27. > :22:35.score 15.1. Discourse on the pommel horse that we are seeing, they are

:22:36. > :22:39.world-class. Beyond. -- the scores. While we were watching Frank Baines

:22:40. > :22:44.on the rings you were telling us how torrid time he has been having. He

:22:45. > :22:47.was a really successful junior and last year he had a bit of an

:22:48. > :22:55.accident and landed on his head and he handed to be in -- had to be in a

:22:56. > :23:00.back brace that he is wanting to prove he is back to his best form.

:23:01. > :23:04.When you are talking about what we have seen so far, especially on the

:23:05. > :23:15.pommel horse, you have the big guns there, Smith, Whitlock and Baines.

:23:16. > :23:20.Those will be the free on the podium but I do not know what order. And

:23:21. > :23:29.this is the third of the three rotations that we are about as the

:23:30. > :23:35.intraday's action. -- about to see in today's action.

:23:36. > :23:45.COMMENTATOR: Nice double twisting front to open with. A really stylish

:23:46. > :23:57.gymnast. Good control. A straight line in the

:23:58. > :24:17.handstand. The Arabian, the half turn into

:24:18. > :24:23.front somersault, he really works with great precision. Not

:24:24. > :24:32.difficult moves now but the execution score will be high. A

:24:33. > :24:54.good, solid opening for Scotland. Adam Cox, then, to please his floor

:24:55. > :24:59.routine. -- completes his routine. Nile Wilson, what a competition he's

:25:00. > :25:04.having, working on all apparatus, building his experience. What does

:25:05. > :25:10.he have to offer on rings, bearing in mind this is really a piece of

:25:11. > :25:21.apparatus for the older gymnast? You can guarantee this young man can

:25:22. > :25:46.swing. Technically, the strength will come.

:25:47. > :26:01.What a good routine. A young man just crossed the maturity bridge.

:26:02. > :26:08.Adam Cox, 13.5 for Scotland. Daniel Keatings for Scotland. Now 24 years

:26:09. > :26:14.old. Third at the British Championships, and look at the level

:26:15. > :26:21.of the gymnastics that is coming out of the British camp.

:26:22. > :26:31.A very nice twisting double back to start with. Fantastic control on the

:26:32. > :26:38.double Arabian. He suffered a very bad knee injury when he was younger.

:26:39. > :26:46.I think that was a bit lower than intended. We haven't seen him work

:26:47. > :26:51.internationally on the floor so much that he very able. -- but he's very

:26:52. > :27:28.able. Two and a half twists. Absolutely no

:27:29. > :27:42.problem with that landing. Wonderful work. Wilson, 14 point 383. For

:27:43. > :27:46.England, Kristian Thomas. Such a hard piece of apparatus for him,

:27:47. > :28:07.because he's not the lightest gymnast in the squad.

:28:08. > :28:21.Very cleverly constructed, this routine.

:28:22. > :28:32.Very disciplined. A tiny bit over quick, but we are talking a very,

:28:33. > :28:37.very small problem. That was lovely. The big man, that was hugely

:28:38. > :28:42.interesting on the rings. At 25 years old, he has been there, done

:28:43. > :28:47.it and knew exactly what he had to do there and he has done it. Such a

:28:48. > :28:57.fantastic example to the younger gymnasts in the gym. Always focused,

:28:58. > :29:02.always working. Keatings, 14.96. What a score for him and for

:29:03. > :29:14.Scotland. I'm sure we'll see him in the floral final.

:29:15. > :29:20.Oh! The tumbles were great but he just did not quite nailed for

:29:21. > :29:33.landing. -- nailed for landing. A lot of pressure here for the home

:29:34. > :29:51.gymnasts. Another wonderful combination, two

:29:52. > :30:07.and a half twists into full twisting front.

:30:08. > :30:21.gymnast. From the same club as Daniel Purvis. But that will be very

:30:22. > :30:27.costly. He landed out of the floor. Beautiful triple twist though,

:30:28. > :30:32.haven't seen any better than that. You could not tell that he once

:30:33. > :30:44.broke formica vertebrae and spent 12 weeks recovering -- four vertebrae.

:30:45. > :30:50.No sign of nerves from him throughout the whole competition

:30:51. > :31:02.really. A solid 14 for Kristian Thomas. Max Whitlock going

:31:03. > :31:13.incredibly well in the all-around competition. Here he is on rings.

:31:14. > :31:31.The 21-year-old. You will see that swing come into play here. Security,

:31:32. > :31:45.he needs. So far it is good. Nice technique. Into the handstand. It is

:31:46. > :31:59.a tough old skill. And safely through the double front. Lovely

:32:00. > :32:08.locked arms. Double twist, well done. Isn't she relieved to get rid

:32:09. > :32:17.of the rings? He is thinking, I wish this was the all-around final. She

:32:18. > :32:25.has been superb. What an outing. It is worth talking about the style, he

:32:26. > :32:34.has really worked that routine. 14.0664 Frank Baines. And that was

:32:35. > :32:43.after a penalty deduction. He could really do much better. Daniel

:32:44. > :32:51.Purvis. So important for Scotland on rings, and will be equally important

:32:52. > :32:59.here on the floor. A bronze finalist in the World Championships in 2010.

:33:00. > :33:08.Two very difficult elements to start the routine off. But he undercooked

:33:09. > :33:23.that. I think the Scottish guys are feeling a lot of the pressure. Into

:33:24. > :33:30.front with the half. But these mistakes might be very costly in

:33:31. > :33:39.terms of making apparatus finals, which would be a great shame. That

:33:40. > :33:50.is the move we have come to expect from him. The roll-out, smoothly up

:33:51. > :33:55.onto straight legs. Important, this final tumble, into the double

:33:56. > :34:03.Arabian, so hard, but he does it so well with such ease. He knew he had

:34:04. > :34:09.to go all out for difficulty after his little slip, and he did not

:34:10. > :34:14.disappoint in that department. It was a gamble that did not pay off on

:34:15. > :34:25.this occasion but he is a great gymnast, Daniel Purvis. Such is the

:34:26. > :34:34.level of this competition. 14.433 on the rings, Max Whitlock. Still, at

:34:35. > :34:57.21 years of age, he is not even there yet, is he? Canada, on pommel

:34:58. > :35:09.horse. Secondary -- Zachary clay. A good steady start. That last

:35:10. > :35:24.Russian, he is building it very nicely. Catching up the hands very

:35:25. > :35:31.nicely indeed. This will be much welcomed by the Canadians but he has

:35:32. > :35:41.faltered at the last gasp. He really lost it. You need to stay focused.

:35:42. > :35:46.He has come to grief. Interesting to see what happens with the rest of

:35:47. > :35:53.the Canadian team, bearing in mind Wales were incredibly consistent in

:35:54. > :35:59.their competition. That really was a bit of a give up at the end after he

:36:00. > :36:08.performed so well. Sam Oldham on the rings. She has had his moments in

:36:09. > :36:17.this qualification competition, he can put them all behind him in the

:36:18. > :36:19.last piece for today. He has struggled sometimes with consistency

:36:20. > :36:33.but such a stylish, beautiful gymnast. If you'd goes through clean

:36:34. > :36:42.he has so few deductions. Beautifully pointed, straight arms.

:36:43. > :36:52.Sweet hand, just a tiny fight, and a big dismount. Really impressive

:36:53. > :37:01.after a disappointing pommel horse. England aren't just unbeatable, it

:37:02. > :37:16.seems. -- are. What a luxury to have a team of this quality. 14.533 four

:37:17. > :37:27.the attacking Sam Oldham. A great floor worker. Daniel Purvis, what a

:37:28. > :37:42.lovely combination. He gets 13 point nine. The execution scores are very

:37:43. > :37:53.high. Anderson Loran for Canada. Wales have them in their site.

:37:54. > :38:06.He did well to get that back. Into the Russian. Travelling very

:38:07. > :38:18.efficiently. A little bit of separation. And the dismount. He

:38:19. > :38:28.will be grateful to get through. 13.666. That is how things look

:38:29. > :38:36.after three pieces of apparatus. England ahead of Scotland, Canada,

:38:37. > :38:46.then Wales in fourth, Australia and New Zealand fifth and six.

:38:47. > :38:53.6.5 points is the gap. Is that catchable?

:38:54. > :38:59.England would need to make a lot of mistakes. Their dominance will

:39:00. > :39:04.continue. Scotland will need to do something special to close that

:39:05. > :39:12.gap. It is so important to be on your

:39:13. > :39:17.mettle in day one. So much relies on these results.

:39:18. > :39:24.I found qualification was the hardest event. If you go wrong, your

:39:25. > :39:29.games are over. Most of the gymnast want to put their top game out. We

:39:30. > :39:37.saw Daniel Purvis had a small mistake. That will put him out of

:39:38. > :39:46.the floor final. Max Whitlock has been the outstanding individual.

:39:47. > :39:53.45.766, that is some going. If you double that you have reached

:39:54. > :39:55.an all world stage score. He is looking to dominate these

:39:56. > :40:01.championships and has had great preparation. I would not be

:40:02. > :40:08.surprised if you'd goes home with medals around his neck.

:40:09. > :40:12.As one of the top female gymnasts in this country, looking at the men's

:40:13. > :40:20.events, did you ever try any of them? We marvel at them. Did you

:40:21. > :40:27.ever give them a go? I had a go on rings. I was awful.

:40:28. > :40:32.And the pommel horse, you don't realise how difficult it is until

:40:33. > :40:41.you have a go. And the reverse is true for the

:40:42. > :40:46.guys. Which fills them with horror? Definitely the beam. It could go so

:40:47. > :40:56.wrong. For obvious reasons! We will move

:40:57. > :41:03.on! Will the order of the last four games change?

:41:04. > :41:10.I have a feeling it will. England look on top of their game. Australia

:41:11. > :41:14.are in transition. Laura Mitchell was the star in New Delhi, she has

:41:15. > :41:23.had surgery and is not doing the all-around. England are definitely

:41:24. > :41:29.on the top game. And they have a mixture of

:41:30. > :41:33.experience and some very young kids. They have proved there is life after

:41:34. > :41:39.you, with a silver medal at the Europeans.

:41:40. > :41:45.They have. Unfortunately we lost Rebecca with an injury. We are

:41:46. > :41:50.preparing her for 2016, that is more important for her.

:41:51. > :41:57.Tonight, the uneven bars and the vault. Great to share that with you

:41:58. > :42:06.this afternoon. A smashing start. It will only get better.

:42:07. > :42:10.We hope so. At Carnoustie, news that Gemma McIntosh of Scotland has made

:42:11. > :42:17.history. Shooting is a family affair. She is the most decorated

:42:18. > :42:22.Scottish woman in a single games after winning two golds and a bronze

:42:23. > :42:25.in Delhi, today she has become one of only three Scottish women to

:42:26. > :42:31.women four medals at the Commonwealth Games. She joins her

:42:32. > :42:39.mother, Shirley, as one of the others. Appropriately, her mother

:42:40. > :42:45.put the medal round her neck. What a moment for the family. Like mother,

:42:46. > :42:52.like daughter. Well played to the Macintosh clan.

:42:53. > :42:57.You look happier today than when I spoke to you the other day. How do

:42:58. > :43:03.you feel? Really excited. Disappointed I could

:43:04. > :43:09.not defend my title but it is a medal, so I am happy. It was a good

:43:10. > :43:13.performance, in some ways better than the performance I gave in

:43:14. > :43:23.Delhi, which is kind of ironic. It was hard work, preached to get --

:43:24. > :43:27.pleased to get a medal. I put more pressure on myself because was a

:43:28. > :43:34.home games but the crowd were fantastic. I want to thank them for

:43:35. > :43:39.coming out and showing support. You are in illustrious company. Only

:43:40. > :43:44.three have taken four career Commonwealth medals. One is your

:43:45. > :43:49.mother. It is brilliant to be part of that

:43:50. > :43:53.Scottish history. Is the pressure now off going into

:43:54. > :44:00.your final event? Yes and no. I always put pressure on

:44:01. > :44:10.myself, women or nothing. But it feels like a little bit is off. --

:44:11. > :44:15.win or nothing. That is the 32nd Scottish medal of

:44:16. > :44:24.these games, one shy of the previous best. The target is 34. They inch

:44:25. > :44:30.closer. England are moving up the table, giving Australia a run for

:44:31. > :44:37.their money. They have a chance of gold in the table tennis today, the

:44:38. > :44:44.men's team event. England lost the first couple of singles matches then

:44:45. > :44:46.won the doubles. Andrew Begley, can he level it to take it into a

:44:47. > :45:09.decider? match. Andrew Bageley is top at

:45:10. > :45:14.table tennis but perhaps he just lacks a little bit of pace in his

:45:15. > :45:25.game. He tends to play very much at one pace.

:45:26. > :45:38.Bageley was redlining his own backhands but then when Zhan had the

:45:39. > :46:02.opportunity, look how much power he hit the ball with.

:46:03. > :46:23.The Serb deviating everywhere there from Baggaley. -- the server.

:46:24. > :46:43.I'm quite sure more than anything, the Mac three in his first ever

:46:44. > :46:52.Commonwealth Games, his first ever tournament, -- Zhan wants to be the

:46:53. > :47:03.man who wins the gold medal for Singapore.

:47:04. > :48:13.Now, I think maybe he should think about a time-out, England. He will

:48:14. > :48:19.obviously have that at the forefront of his mind. House and pulled the

:48:20. > :48:27.trigger yet, though, on that one. -- hasn't pulled the trigger yet. Good

:48:28. > :48:33.defence, Andrew Baggaley. Scurrying around deep behind the table. But he

:48:34. > :48:48.got it done just deflecting that one off his right hip, almost.

:48:49. > :48:53.Really upping the ante now, Baggaley. A lot of Excel oration in

:48:54. > :49:09.that forehand. -- acceleration. He has to keep his mind in the

:49:10. > :49:26.present. Could serve from Zhan, and a fist

:49:27. > :49:47.pump with it. -- a good serve. He has gone back to the safety, gone

:49:48. > :49:53.back to serving from the middle of the table, reduced the angle, served

:49:54. > :49:59.with the backhand, the smooth side of the rubber.

:50:00. > :50:07.The effect return from Zhan. Two points away from the gold medal, and

:50:08. > :50:14.they have called a time-out, team England.

:50:15. > :50:19.Not for me to criticise, but it worries me that the time-out has

:50:20. > :50:29.been taken too late to really change things. Yes. 2-0 down, but 9-6, for

:50:30. > :50:33.me it is just a little bit too late. Really, he's having to climb Everest

:50:34. > :50:43.without oxygen. Very difficult indeed. Also, remember, it gives...

:50:44. > :50:49.The advice from his coach, go out, do your best, you have got to take a

:50:50. > :50:55.risk. Maybe one in ten, one in 15 it might come off. Don't hold back.

:50:56. > :50:57.Give it your all. And remember your opponent might just be a little bit

:50:58. > :51:09.nervous. Singapore now one point away from

:51:10. > :51:41.the gold medal. The Singaporean coach call the

:51:42. > :51:49.time-out. He will take no risks whatsoever. In the Olympic final

:51:50. > :51:53.back in 2004, one player was leading in the Forth game, best of seven.

:51:54. > :52:00.Ten - one, the Chinese coach called time-out. Unbelievable tension

:52:01. > :52:06.around these parts. The Singaporean coach calling time-out at the 11th

:52:07. > :52:10.hour. To be fair to him, I would have done the same. He's quite

:52:11. > :52:16.correct. It is a big point, at the moment. Your mind can be all over

:52:17. > :52:48.the place at this time. Go back and start again.

:52:49. > :53:16.Still alive. He took a risk, fair enough. Why not?

:53:17. > :53:29.And he wins another. Saves a second match point, Andrew Baggaley. Look

:53:30. > :53:34.at how passive Zhan was. A lot of tension on that point, both players

:53:35. > :53:44.playing with a lot of spin. There it is, then! Gold medal to

:53:45. > :54:01.Singapore. Three matches to one. CHEERING AND APPLAUSE the might of

:54:02. > :54:06.the top seeds prevailing after a punishing five days, to a rapturous

:54:07. > :54:12.ovation here at Scotstoun. The deserved winners of goals,

:54:13. > :54:17.Singapore. -- winners of gold medals, Singapore.

:54:18. > :54:25.You had to settle for silver. What feelings are you experiencing right

:54:26. > :54:29.now? Really disappointed. We knew it would be tough but we went with

:54:30. > :54:34.expectations that we could take the gold medal but today there are

:54:35. > :54:38.better than us. Hopefully next time. Before the match did you feel you

:54:39. > :54:42.could beat them? Yes, we had a chance. We have all beaten them

:54:43. > :54:48.before at some point. Today it didn't happen. Andrew, the fact that

:54:49. > :54:51.England go into a match against Singapore, who are so dominant in

:54:52. > :54:58.the Commonwealth Games, just tells you how much England have come on

:54:59. > :55:02.since Delhi? Yes, and we have all beaten them on occasion but today it

:55:03. > :55:08.was not meant to be. But credit to Singapore, they were very strong

:55:09. > :55:13.today and deserved to win. There are more medal chances. You are hoping

:55:14. > :55:20.for more medals here in Glasgow? Yes, I think we can all medal in

:55:21. > :55:24.every event. We had some chances during the match, but we will be

:55:25. > :55:29.back again and we will definitely get the gold medal sometime.

:55:30. > :55:30.Congratulations on your silver. All the best for the rest of the

:55:31. > :55:34.tournament. the best for the rest of the

:55:35. > :55:38.Disappointing but there is a long way to go for Team

:55:39. > :55:41.Disappointing but there is a long Scotstoun, but congratulations to

:55:42. > :55:46.Singapore, the 25th gold medal in their history. Beth Tweddle is here

:55:47. > :55:54.with me. This is your seventh major multisport event you have attended.

:55:55. > :55:59.How is last vote shaping up in Europe? I think it looks fantastic.

:56:00. > :56:04.I went around the village the other day. It looks fantastic. All the

:56:05. > :56:08.countries have put their flag out and stamped their mark on their part

:56:09. > :56:14.of the village will stop You have seen a lot of people coming through

:56:15. > :56:18.that perhaps we do not recognise as yet, but this has always been a

:56:19. > :56:24.breeding ground for timed we are going to see at the Olympic Games.

:56:25. > :56:29.Yes, you will always see that the athletes use the Commonwealth Games

:56:30. > :56:34.as a stepping stone to the Olympics. I did it, Victoria Pendleton says

:56:35. > :56:38.she did it in 2002. It makes the athletes hungry. They are thinking,

:56:39. > :56:44.this is what the Commonwealth Games feels like, imagine what an Olympic

:56:45. > :56:48.Games is going to feel like. It gets you used to the village environment.

:56:49. > :56:53.There has been a lot of talk about the noise, and actually existing in

:56:54. > :56:57.that environment. Yes, when you go to European Championships you are in

:56:58. > :57:01.the hotel and there are not many distractions. In the Athletes'

:57:02. > :57:07.Village there is the food hall, open 24 hours a day, seven days a week,

:57:08. > :57:10.and that can be very tempting. Usain Bolt went into the Athletes' Village

:57:11. > :57:18.the other day and everyone's spirits were lifted because they are sharing

:57:19. > :57:21.that space with a superstar. Are you still feeling the spatial awareness

:57:22. > :57:26.of the gymnasts when you are watching them? Yes, I still feel it

:57:27. > :57:32.but I am glad I have stepped away. I know how much hard work it takes to

:57:33. > :57:38.get out into competition. We will see you tomorrow for day two of the

:57:39. > :57:43.gymnastics competition. There is so much to look forward to particularly

:57:44. > :57:46.in the athletics. Libby Clegg for Scotland. And then we will see who

:57:47. > :57:55.is the fastest man and woman in the Commonwealth, in the men's and

:57:56. > :57:58.women's 100m sprints. That is all from 9:35am. So much to come.
