:01:39. > :01:43.London and its landmarks have become synonymous with sporting drama and
:01:43. > :01:48.this weekend, a new event aims to keep that ball rolling, or rather,
:01:48. > :01:56.the wheels. The UK's largest ever cycling Festival, something for
:01:56. > :02:03.everyone. Welcome to RideLondon. It kicked off yesterday morning with
:02:03. > :02:10.free cycle, over 50,000 bicycles on traffic free cycle in heaven in
:02:10. > :02:20.London. On even in, the focus switched to St James's Park and the
:02:20. > :02:20.
:02:20. > :02:24.Golden pursued Queens. -- in the evening. Then, 20,000 amateur riders
:02:24. > :02:29.were on the 100 mile course based on last year 's Olympic road race. And
:02:29. > :02:39.in one hour, the professional riders take to the same roads, the London -
:02:39. > :02:42.sorry classic with star names to look out for. The action yesterday
:02:42. > :02:49.was in central London and today it shifts to Stratford and the Queen
:02:49. > :02:52.Elizabeth Olympic Park. Happy memories. The riders set of between
:02:52. > :02:59.6am and 8am and then the professionals at around 12:45pm.
:02:59. > :03:05.Just signing in. They finish on the mile, we -- anticipate the
:03:05. > :03:10.professionals at around 6:15pm. And the amateurs, they are already
:03:10. > :03:17.coming in behind me. They started arriving at 10am and the cut-off is
:03:17. > :03:22.at 4pm so we hope that Boris Johnson will make it before the wagon sweeps
:03:23. > :03:29.up! Good morning from the very first Prudential RideLondon. A celebration
:03:29. > :03:35.of cycling the likes of which the city has never seen and alongside me
:03:35. > :03:42.is Rob Hayles. A great weekend for cycling. And a measure of just how
:03:42. > :03:46.far this board has come? It is amazing to see just were cycling is,
:03:46. > :03:49.British cycling membership has gone to over 75,000 and that was before
:03:49. > :03:56.this year and the Tour de France, with that second consecutive British
:03:56. > :04:00.winner. It really is amazing to see over 70,000 riders here in London
:04:00. > :04:08.this weekend on closed roads, hundreds of thousands coming to spec
:04:08. > :04:15.Tate. I am blown away. And we have the weather as well. When you fast
:04:15. > :04:23.-- first started, it was different? It was completely different. I am so
:04:23. > :04:28.glad to have been able to come through this, I can sit back and I
:04:28. > :04:33.can watch from the shop window and see what is going on. I just cannot
:04:33. > :04:42.believe the household names, Bradley Wiggins, Laura Trott, all of those
:04:42. > :04:49.people. Amazing to see out of those last four BBC sports personality of
:04:49. > :04:56.the competitions, three of them have been cyclists. What has been the
:04:56. > :05:03.catalyst for this resurgence? To be truthful, we are just so good at it.
:05:03. > :05:12.A lotta that comes the elite side, with Cavendish and Chris Froome, but
:05:12. > :05:15.also, cycling is seen as a pastime that is acceptable and the amount of
:05:15. > :05:21.brand-new bikes going around yesterday, I do not know how they
:05:21. > :05:28.can cope. And this is seen as a way for people to spend time, not just
:05:28. > :05:33.getting from a to B. It is actually a pastime and great to see. The
:05:33. > :05:39.action kicked off yesterday morning early with 50,000 riders on that
:05:39. > :05:45.eight mile loop in central London and our reporters were there to
:05:45. > :05:50.follow them. It kicks off in St Paul's with the world 's second
:05:50. > :05:54.attempt for the longest single parade of bicycles. Leading them, a
:05:54. > :06:04.Rugby World Cup hero. And a double Olympic champion getting them under
:06:04. > :06:05.
:06:05. > :06:12.way. You are usually used to setting world records. Are you excited?
:06:12. > :06:17.Really excited. So many people have come here already. We already have
:06:17. > :06:21.half of the amount. You are leading this line and you have been leading
:06:21. > :06:26.many teams in the past, what do you have to do to make sure this world
:06:26. > :06:33.record is set? Don't go the wrong way! I want to see so many people
:06:33. > :06:43.riding as possible. This is a massive amount of people and it is
:06:43. > :06:44.
:06:44. > :06:52.turning us into a cycling nation. have a clear road in front of me. I
:06:52. > :07:02.will be fine. I will see you at the finish. Good luck. Good luck to all
:07:02. > :07:33.
:07:33. > :07:40.not enough to brake the record? I am buried is appointed. But we are
:07:40. > :07:50.enjoying this so we are going to do the whole route. Brilliant. -- very
:07:50. > :07:53.
:07:53. > :07:56.disappointed. So, no world record but they have put on plenty of other
:07:56. > :08:06.events for the people of London to get involved with and with a
:08:06. > :08:13.
:08:13. > :08:23.beautiful backdrop. Bicycles have so many different uses! That is it.
:08:23. > :08:28.
:08:28. > :08:34.After you... That is beautiful! And this was not good enough, Jill
:08:34. > :08:40.Douglas has been getting more right action around London. -- bicycle
:08:40. > :08:44.action. Loads going on in Green Park, one stone 's throw away from
:08:44. > :08:54.Buckingham Palace so if you are a great grandmother looking for
:08:54. > :09:05.
:09:05. > :09:09.inspiration for the perfect gift, take a look around. You are a very
:09:09. > :09:14.game having a go on that ridiculous bicycle! It is not as easy as it
:09:14. > :09:24.looks, it is very difficult to get your feet onto those pedals. You
:09:24. > :09:49.
:09:49. > :09:55.leave that there are... -- there. From world record attempts to
:09:55. > :10:01.bicycle polo to the MX trickery, we have had everything but sometimes
:10:01. > :10:07.you just have to leave things to the professionals. They are very good!
:10:07. > :10:13.They were having far too much fun. And earlier this morning at the
:10:13. > :10:20.start of the road race, we got up with a man whose idea this entire
:10:20. > :10:25.weekend was. Boris Johnson. There is a festival of feeling at the start
:10:25. > :10:29.and I am joined by the headline act, Boris Johnson. Fantastic to see you
:10:29. > :10:35.and after all of those months of planning, you got to drop the flag
:10:35. > :10:41.and get this started. Must've been a great feeling? And it is a real
:10:41. > :10:46.honour to participate. I hope to start very soon, I cannot delay.
:10:46. > :10:51.With the speed that I go! It is the greatest cycling event this country
:10:51. > :10:58.has ever held. It was amazing coming through the streets of East London
:10:58. > :11:04.to watch these huge numbers swarming like hornets towards the Olympic
:11:04. > :11:09.Park. Obviously, it was very worrying to see the amazing levels
:11:09. > :11:14.of fitness! You will put them to shame because you will be racing
:11:14. > :11:19.later? I will be racing now, if I possibly can. I am very happy to do
:11:19. > :11:25.this in under 12 hours! You had a vision for cycling in London and
:11:26. > :11:28.this is a fantastic setting. Is this what you wanted? London is moving
:11:28. > :11:33.east and the Olympic Park is a fantastic venue and this was a
:11:33. > :11:38.fantastic ways to start this but this is a magnificent symbol for
:11:38. > :11:44.what we are doing for cycling in the city. In 19 four, 30 percentage
:11:44. > :11:47.earnings were made by bicycle and I want to turn the clock back! Time to
:11:47. > :11:54.turn the clock back and time to get back down to the start line.
:11:54. > :12:00.Absolute pleasure! I am glad to say, he has got a slightly more
:12:00. > :12:07.aerodynamic T-shirt than the shirt, not too sure about his helmet! He
:12:07. > :12:13.had this plan to get through to the finish line before he was sweet. And
:12:13. > :12:17.the latest news, 355 miles, four hours and 40 minutes for Boris
:12:17. > :12:26.Johnson. He will be right on that cut-off point but he will give
:12:26. > :12:29.people lots of smiles. Good luck to Boris Johnson. Yesterday given in,
:12:29. > :12:39.people would not look at St James's Park and the appearance of Laura
:12:39. > :13:16.
:13:16. > :13:19.Trott, Danny King and Jill Russell. see the Americans. They are on fire.
:13:19. > :13:29.Great Britain win the Olympic title and the gold medal and another
:13:29. > :13:33.medal! Danny King, Laura Trott and Jo Rowsell. Willoughby chaplains.
:13:33. > :13:40.Wonderful memories. And what they different challenge yesterday. They
:13:40. > :13:45.spoke to Simon Brotherton. -- Olympic champions. You would involve
:13:45. > :13:49.this morning? It has been really good. We had so many people coming
:13:50. > :13:54.out for that world-record event which we did not get, but it was
:13:54. > :13:59.nice to see so many people riding their bikes. Do you get some feeling
:13:59. > :14:04.of being brought back? That feel-good factor and the flags and
:14:04. > :14:10.people? Definitely, it is all about the public supporting us and after
:14:10. > :14:17.the race, people always congratulating us. It was great to
:14:17. > :14:21.come back and everyone still has that Olympic fever, one year on.
:14:21. > :14:25.the Olympic Games, you road very much as a team and you are wearing
:14:25. > :14:35.the same uniform today but to what extent will you ride as a team?
:14:35. > :14:42.100%. All 41. And on the road, Colin different shots. Different tactics.
:14:42. > :14:48.-- altogether. I am really looking forward to this. Who does this
:14:48. > :14:54.circuit suit best? It depends. If this is an attacking race, probably
:14:54. > :15:00.Jo Rowsell. Myself and Danny, it could be either one. We wish you
:15:01. > :15:06.well. Best of luck. It has been a great day to kick this off with
:15:06. > :15:10.50,000 people trundling around the closed roads of the centre of the
:15:10. > :15:14.capital but now, the final event takes us away from family fun to the
:15:14. > :15:24.elite women's competition and the London grand prix. And they are
:15:24. > :15:41.
:15:41. > :15:47.underway. Hannah Barnes in the centre. We have a delayed start. The
:15:47. > :15:49.cyclists have been held on the line for quite a while. Two junior
:15:49. > :15:56.competitors were receiving medical attention on the road. We hope they
:15:56. > :16:01.are OK. But it has been a long time standing around for the riders?
:16:01. > :16:05.Yes, it was over 30 minutes in total. They would have done their
:16:05. > :16:10.worm odds 20 minutes previously, so your legs get a bit shaky and weak
:16:10. > :16:16.standing on the start line. There would have been a lot of nervous
:16:16. > :16:20.girls going off the start line. have a very large field. Do you
:16:20. > :16:27.think that some of the more senior rivals will be keen to cut down the
:16:27. > :16:32.field sooner rather than later? Definitely. There are some really
:16:32. > :16:37.strong teams with MG-Maxifuel and Wiggle Honda. They will put the
:16:37. > :16:43.pressure on from the start. Already we can see riders from the teams
:16:43. > :16:49.that you were mentioning on the front of the pack. Wide boulevards
:16:49. > :16:53.around St James's Park for this women's Grand Prix. The last of the
:16:53. > :16:59.fund cyclists were cleared off the road at about four o'clock. It was a
:16:59. > :17:05.great site earlier today. This looks like the first attack of the day
:17:05. > :17:12.from Katie Colclough. She is riding for a really strong team. She will
:17:12. > :17:22.probably be working form -- for her sprinter, Loren Rowney. She's
:17:22. > :17:23.
:17:23. > :17:26.extremely fast. Katie Colclough, a strong rider. She was the under 23
:17:26. > :17:33.British Rd race champion last year. She also has plenty of track
:17:34. > :17:43.experience. She was involved in the British development programme but
:17:44. > :17:48.
:17:48. > :17:50.has chosen to go her own way as a road rider at the moment. The
:17:50. > :17:59.cyclists on Horse Guards Parade. They are getting ready to turn left
:17:59. > :18:06.into the Mall. This circuit has a really smooth surface, so I think it
:18:06. > :18:13.will be a fast race. I'm sure that the race will be an attacking race
:18:13. > :18:23.and really exciting. The lack of technicality in the circuit makes it
:18:23. > :18:23.
:18:23. > :18:29.easier. But it does make it more difficult for someone to get away.
:18:29. > :18:34.That is right. The straights are quite long. It makes it more
:18:34. > :18:42.difficult to break away and get out of sight. There is a rider from
:18:42. > :18:52.Edinburgh on the front. Katie Archibald. No one attack from
:18:52. > :18:53.
:18:53. > :19:00.Harriet Owen. She is showing her face at the front. Harriet Owen just
:19:00. > :19:07.making a little move of the front. Decent crowds enjoying the early
:19:07. > :19:13.evening sunshine in front of ducking and palace. I think it is important
:19:13. > :19:16.in the early stages of the race for a good number of teams to get
:19:16. > :19:24.towards the front to show the jersey. Many of them know that they
:19:24. > :19:34.are unlikely to be there at the end. Yes, that is right. Riders from
:19:34. > :19:38.
:19:38. > :19:43.smaller teams need to take cans. -- to take their chance. Hannah Barnes
:19:43. > :19:46.has covered this attack straightaway and she on the counterattack.
:19:46. > :19:50.wondered if she might be tempted to keep our powder dry for the
:19:50. > :19:55.remainder of the race. When it gets to the business end in half an
:19:55. > :20:00.hour's time, she is one of the riders that we expect to see towards
:20:01. > :20:10.the front of the race. She is not afraid to take the wind at the
:20:11. > :20:11.
:20:11. > :20:15.moment. She's been followed by New Zealander. Yes, she joined Wiggle
:20:15. > :20:20.Honda for her first year as a professional. This is Laura Trott
:20:20. > :20:26.going towards the front. This is our first chance to see the double
:20:26. > :20:29.Olympic champion. She is the ambassador for RideLondon. She will
:20:29. > :20:35.be the person more than anyone that most of the spectators have come to
:20:35. > :20:45.see. That was closed down quickly by Hannah Barnes. This is an
:20:45. > :20:46.
:20:46. > :20:56.interesting start. These are the two strongest riders today. There is a
:20:56. > :20:57.
:20:57. > :21:02.bit of rivalry developing between these two. Hannah Barnes did beat
:21:02. > :21:08.Laura Trott in London earlier this summer. Yes, she did. She has won so
:21:08. > :21:13.many races this year. This is Katie Colclough on the front again, making
:21:14. > :21:23.it a hard race. She has Loren Rowney in there, so she is trying to put
:21:24. > :21:25.
:21:25. > :21:35.pressure on the other teams. She is heavily marked by Orica. Orica art
:21:35. > :21:35.
:21:35. > :21:40.in the light blue, with a little bit of green and yellow on the kit.
:21:40. > :21:48.is Anna Schnitzmeier. She is working for Laura Trott today. She is on the
:21:48. > :21:52.front trying to pick up the pace. Yes, 23 years of age, from Germany.
:21:52. > :21:58.She went to see her first race at the age of 11 and she was racing
:21:58. > :22:05.just 12 months after that. The Wiggle Honda team is effectively the
:22:05. > :22:12.Manchester United of women's racing. Yes, that is fair to say. They are
:22:12. > :22:17.definitely the team to beat. They have so many strong riders. They
:22:17. > :22:22.only have five riders, but each one of them has great qualities. What
:22:22. > :22:32.makes them unique is that the race as a team. Natalie Creswick now
:22:32. > :22:35.
:22:35. > :22:41.attacking. She won in Stoke earlier this year. She came second to Hannah
:22:42. > :22:49.Barnes in the Tour series and she may featured as the race goes on.
:22:49. > :22:59.She has got a little bit of a break. It looks like Wiggle Honda are
:22:59. > :23:12.
:23:12. > :23:17.working to pull back back. Anna Schnitzmeier is doing the work.
:23:17. > :23:23.Wiggle Honda have five top-level riders. MG-Maxifuel probably have
:23:23. > :23:27.five riders as well. There is strength in numbers. But there is
:23:27. > :23:31.not the strength in depth in some of the teams? In women's cycling, it is
:23:31. > :23:37.very important to have a strong team. The British riders want to do
:23:37. > :23:40.well on home soil. It is so important to have a strong team so
:23:40. > :23:50.they have brought the New Zealander and the German to ensure that they
:23:50. > :24:00.
:24:00. > :24:08.have a strong team. She has read in in the UK, Emily Collins, this year.
:24:08. > :24:18.-- she has ridden quite a lot. Emily Collins has that tape on her left
:24:18. > :24:20.
:24:20. > :24:25.leg. It makes easy to spot. Here is Joanna Rowsell. She is a gold medal
:24:25. > :24:30.men are -- is a gold medal winner from the Olympics in 2012, and a
:24:30. > :24:40.world champion as well. She is stringing the peloton out at the
:24:40. > :24:44.moment. Once again, Hannah Barnes is up at the front. This is Amanda
:24:45. > :24:52.Spratt from Orica. She will be making the race really hard for
:24:52. > :24:57.everyone. Amanda Spratt is one of the strongest workers on the Orica
:24:57. > :25:03.team. She knows that her job is to make it hard, and make sure that
:25:03. > :25:08.everyone gets stinging legs. She's been closed down by Wiggle Honda,
:25:08. > :25:17.Laura Trott and Dani King. Yes, Dani King on the left-hand side of your
:25:17. > :25:27.screen. Dani King intends to write the London-Surrey 100 tomorrow. It
:25:27. > :25:29.
:25:29. > :25:34.is a bit like the London Marathon. -- to ride. There is Laura Trott
:25:34. > :25:41.coming to the front once more. think the peloton will want to close
:25:41. > :25:46.that down. Hannah Barnes has had to close that down. The onus is really
:25:46. > :25:51.on Hannah Barnes. She cannot afford riders from Wiggle Honda or Orica to
:25:51. > :26:00.get away. No one else will be able to bring them back in. Here is Emily
:26:00. > :26:05.Collins. Here she goes again. That is Hannah Barnes chasing down. There
:26:05. > :26:08.is a lot of pressure on Hannah Barnes to close down. There is a
:26:08. > :26:16.crash in the middle of the peloton. Several of the riders have gone to
:26:16. > :26:22.the ground. It looks like one of the Mulebar riders has come off worst of
:26:23. > :26:27.all. It is Natalie Creswick. A few laps ago, she was on the front of
:26:27. > :26:37.the race, and no, potentially she's out of it. That is disappointing for
:26:37. > :26:40.
:26:40. > :26:45.her. That was a really nasty fall. She has clearly injured her side,
:26:45. > :26:49.maybe damaged a couple of ribs. It just illustrates that in cycling
:26:49. > :26:55.you're never more than a second or so away from sporting disaster.
:26:55. > :26:58.Everything happened so quickly. Things can be going so well, she was
:26:58. > :27:04.off the front at the beginning of the race, and now it looks like you
:27:04. > :27:10.race is over. Things like that happening bike racing. It is a
:27:10. > :27:16.matter mental strength. You give me a knowing look when you said that. I
:27:16. > :27:22.think you have had some crashes yourself. Yes, ten years of being a
:27:22. > :27:28.sprinter in the women's peloton. It is a dangerous game. I have loved it
:27:28. > :27:38.and enjoyed it, and I did not have a feed of crashing. Two years ago I
:27:38. > :27:40.
:27:40. > :27:48.had my worst crash in Verona in the jaded Italia. I broke my pelvis. --
:27:48. > :27:52.in the Giro D'Italia. I had to learn how to walk again. These are the
:27:52. > :27:57.challenges of been a professional cyclist. You almost make it sound
:27:57. > :28:03.like it was part of the job, learning to walk again! I am glad
:28:04. > :28:08.that you were able to get back in the saddle. Emily Collins, riding on
:28:08. > :28:18.the front. She is getting through a lot of work. Katie Archibald in the
:28:18. > :28:30.
:28:30. > :28:35.blue and white. Katie Colclough is really making this race exciting.
:28:35. > :28:41.She's putting the hammer down. the future good for riders like
:28:41. > :28:44.Katie Colclough? She is in her early 20s. She was part of the Olympic
:28:44. > :28:51.development programme but she seems to have fallen outside the British
:28:51. > :28:57.system. What prospects for riders like her with these sort of teams?
:28:57. > :29:04.Specialise Lulu Lemon is one of the best teams in the women's peloton.
:29:04. > :29:11.-- specialise Lulu Lemon. I think that Katie Colclough might come back
:29:11. > :29:21.to the track. It is in her mind. Now that the women's pursuit has gone
:29:21. > :29:22.
:29:22. > :29:26.out to four kilometres, she could be useful to the British programme.
:29:26. > :29:34.mentioned the Wiggle Honda riders, but other than them, it is the trio
:29:34. > :29:39.from Orica. They are perhaps the key rivals, as well as Hannah Barnes.
:29:39. > :29:43.This is a dangerous move to let Amanda Spratt have a gap like that.
:29:43. > :29:53.She's definitely a strong rider. It looks like Katie Archibald is come
:29:53. > :29:56.
:29:56. > :30:05.across. Amanda Spratt on the back of those three but Katie Archibald is
:30:05. > :30:10.still in pole position. She has taken that one out. Getting back
:30:10. > :30:19.onto the wheel. Katie Archibald takes the very first sprint of the
:30:19. > :30:26.race. Here comes the Palatine. Laura Trott sitting right on her wheel.
:30:26. > :30:36.Looking like they are riding as a pair today. And that is the result.
:30:36. > :30:39.
:30:39. > :30:49.Katie Archibald taking that. Then Amanda 's brat. Danny King, bringing
:30:49. > :30:53.
:30:53. > :30:57.the Palatine. -- Palatine. And Laura Trott stuck on her wheel. I think
:30:57. > :31:06.that they work really well together and have a very close relationship
:31:06. > :31:11.so it comes natural that they stick together. Jo Rowsell, she likes to
:31:11. > :31:18.strike out on her own. And she is such a strong rider and that people
:31:18. > :31:25.don't want her to get away. They know how strong she is and she
:31:25. > :31:35.really hurts. They will close this down because she is a danger.
:31:35. > :31:37.
:31:37. > :31:41.is a very useful tactic. There are several cards to play in this team.
:31:41. > :31:45.They just keep attacking and that weakens and takes out the top end
:31:45. > :31:55.speed of the other competitors. They are a definitely putting the
:31:55. > :32:01.
:32:01. > :32:06.peoloton under pressure. -- peloton. Was Emily Collins the very first
:32:06. > :32:15.winner for the team this year? was a very big win. It was her first
:32:15. > :32:21.year with the professional team. that was a very big team in Belgium.
:32:21. > :32:28.She was the first ever to win a race with Honda. Emily Collins, powering
:32:28. > :32:38.past horse guards per. Decent crowd staying out to watch this race in
:32:38. > :32:38.
:32:38. > :32:42.the evening. -- parade. Trying to close that line. Getting some
:32:42. > :32:52.support not having to do this yourself and the pressure is really
:32:52. > :33:05.
:33:05. > :33:12.matrix team coming through. Emily Collins, leading them through the
:33:12. > :33:22.line. Heading into the second sprint laps. It has been a pretty fast race
:33:22. > :33:23.
:33:23. > :33:28.so far with riders specifically attacking, particularly Honda.
:33:28. > :33:38.Considering that there have been some attacks, there are quite a lot
:33:38. > :33:42.
:33:42. > :33:48.of riders still bear? Quite a very strong field. Helen Wyman, seven
:33:48. > :33:56.years she has one. The European champion. One of the more
:33:56. > :34:03.experienced riders in that peloton. She is on the right of the picture
:34:03. > :34:08.with an orange crash helmet. I think that her speciality, no doubt, her
:34:08. > :34:16.speciality is cycle cross. She will just be gearing up into her season
:34:16. > :34:21.as everybody Weinstein. She is riding very well today. She has put
:34:21. > :34:25.some pressure on this bunch. And she won at Sheffield grand prix a couple
:34:25. > :34:31.of weeks ago although the course was slightly different to this one. It
:34:31. > :34:40.is all good tuning for the legs as she prepares for the winter season
:34:40. > :34:47.that lies ahead. We are seeing what we thought. Lots of riders going to
:34:47. > :34:53.the front and gaining three seconds and perhaps 15 or 25 metres but that
:34:53. > :34:57.does not grow any larger? It is a very difficult course because we
:34:57. > :35:04.always have that rider inside and there are so many left in the bunch,
:35:04. > :35:09.there are a number of people to do this job. She has been doing a lot
:35:09. > :35:15.of work in this race and she is closing down the gap. Emma Grant.
:35:15. > :35:19.She has had a couple of good places this year. She was racing in the
:35:19. > :35:29.United States last year. She also has the strength to test the legs of
:35:29. > :35:33.the rest of the field. Grand, looking comfortable. But, again, as
:35:33. > :35:40.with all of those other attacks, unable to gain any ground. And Katie
:35:40. > :35:46.Archibald, sitting so strong, just if you've metres behind. Emma Grant
:35:46. > :35:50.is not gaining any ground. Katie Archibald, leading the sprint. She
:35:50. > :35:57.is looking to take the second. Not in the best position to do that,
:35:58. > :36:05.having led from the start. Here comes the Dutchwoman, who looks like
:36:05. > :36:11.she has that in the bag. Katie Archibald taking second place.
:36:11. > :36:21.is a very strong rider, she is the captain for the Orica Greenedge team
:36:21. > :36:27.
:36:27. > :36:37.in Europe. She was part of that Dutch team. This is a very strong
:36:37. > :36:40.
:36:40. > :36:50.move. This is a very interesting move. Laura Trott, her team cannot
:36:50. > :36:54.
:36:54. > :37:00.afford to let these get away. She is a very strong rider, Loren Rowney.
:37:00. > :37:05.They will need reeling in. Katie Archibald doing the lion 's share.
:37:05. > :37:09.Trying to get onto the back of that. There is already some activity in
:37:09. > :37:15.black and orange behind her. And also from Helen Barnes. They know
:37:15. > :37:20.that this brake cannot you load to get away. That was interesting to
:37:20. > :37:30.see. Helen on the start about chasing peloton. They have missed
:37:30. > :37:32.
:37:32. > :37:38.that move. Wiggle Honda have got that. They have an opportunity.
:37:38. > :37:43.that a slight experience issue? She could afford to just sit there and
:37:43. > :37:48.look at those riders and say, what are you going to do? Because the
:37:48. > :37:53.imperative is very much on the likes of Danny King? It is positive and
:37:53. > :37:59.negative, she is willing to get onto the front and do the work, and she
:37:59. > :38:03.is happy to put in that hard work for herself. Interesting that Danny
:38:03. > :38:12.King heading the front and Laura Trott. Then, Amanda Spratt in third
:38:12. > :38:17.place. As they head towards the final sprint lap. Danny King, trying
:38:17. > :38:23.to wave the others through. Matrix hanging on. Do they have the
:38:23. > :38:30.strength? Danny King was asking for Amanda sprint -- Amanda Spratt to
:38:30. > :38:36.give her a hand? No, I am not having any of this. I want to be in a
:38:36. > :38:39.position with me and one other rider. Hats off to Danny and Laura,
:38:40. > :38:46.you can see that Danny is getting frustrated. She knows that move will
:38:46. > :38:51.not go. To have riders like that, I would not want that either. Amanda
:38:51. > :38:57.Spratt, happily thinking, I will just ride alongside this motor bike
:38:57. > :39:00.and get free ride and that takes me up, great, but she will not
:39:00. > :39:05.contribute to something which might affect a team-mate. Danny King on
:39:05. > :39:10.the front, Laura Trott tucked in behind her. Amanda Spratt, in the
:39:11. > :39:15.blue and white. This is amazing riding from Danny King, she just
:39:15. > :39:20.sacrifices everything she has got for her team-mates and she is
:39:20. > :39:25.obviously feeling some pain in her legs. Whatever she is feeling in her
:39:25. > :39:31.legs, half of them will be feeling that twice as badly. Really strong
:39:31. > :39:41.riding from Danny King. As soon as she stops, somebody else has a go.
:39:41. > :39:44.
:39:44. > :39:50.Will this work again? Yes, one of the strongest riders. Helen Wyman,
:39:51. > :40:00.also closing the gap. In that orange crash out. She has got those orange
:40:01. > :40:05.
:40:05. > :40:10.patches on her shoulders. -- crash helmet. Matrix also closing down.
:40:10. > :40:14.will try to see who that is. Not gaining any ground at the moment,
:40:14. > :40:21.but she is stringing out the peloton. When the hammer is going
:40:21. > :40:26.down, cyclists suddenly appear in a very long, thin line and if you are
:40:26. > :40:33.at the back, you could be riding just as hard as those at the front,
:40:33. > :40:39.particularly in and out of corners. She almost looks as if she is
:40:39. > :40:44.enjoying herself? Smile on her face? She is extremely professional, she
:40:45. > :40:54.has lots of experience. She is the road leader for the team, she calls
:40:54. > :40:58.the shots in Europe. Another fabulous job to close that time.
:40:58. > :41:06.may not be one of the star names, but she has an aggressive style and
:41:06. > :41:13.she put in the work. She will wiggle -- she will walk before she runs.
:41:13. > :41:22.I'm sure that day will come whenever that Faber is returned. Matrix
:41:22. > :41:28.trying to get into the mix with Emma Grant. Helen Wyman, crossing the
:41:28. > :41:33.line in first place at the moment. The clock says over 36 minutes, so
:41:33. > :41:40.we are about ten minutes away from the end of this race. This is the
:41:40. > :41:44.business end. The peloton is still quite large and that is due to the
:41:44. > :41:54.fast nature of this circuit. Helen Wyman, she is not known as a
:41:54. > :41:57.
:41:57. > :42:06.sprinter. And she is looking in fine form. Jessie Walker. Taking second
:42:06. > :42:11.place. Emily Collins, we have seen quite a lot of, in third place. But
:42:11. > :42:17.Amanda Spratt, who has been really animated today, getting in front
:42:17. > :42:27.once again. And we are heading towards the end of this women's
:42:27. > :42:32.
:42:32. > :42:37.race. They are making this very hard for Honda. We are coming into the
:42:37. > :42:42.finish they sense the danger back in the peloton. This will be an
:42:42. > :42:45.exciting finish. Plenty of riders in the reckoning, a good number know
:42:45. > :42:52.that this comes down to the sprint and they will not have a chance.
:42:52. > :42:56.Amanda Spratt, really stringing them out. Having struck out for glory on
:42:56. > :43:05.her own at the moment in the closing stages. Inside the final few
:43:05. > :43:12.minutes. And here is Jo Rowsell. Putting the pressure down. She is
:43:12. > :43:16.really hurting the legs of the other riders. This is really going to
:43:16. > :43:26.cause problems for the rest of the riders behind. Someone with the
:43:26. > :43:27.
:43:27. > :43:33.power of Juana Russell, this could cause some sports. -- Jo Rowsell.
:43:33. > :43:43.You can see 216 Mac. Helen Barnes ready once this, she has won so many
:43:43. > :43:45.
:43:45. > :43:50.of these in the year. -- Helen Ralston. The last event of the
:43:50. > :44:00.opening day of RideLondon. Still plenty of riders in contention.
:44:00. > :44:01.
:44:01. > :44:04.Helen Barnes, number one, the white jersey. 20 years old, she won the
:44:04. > :44:09.series long series featured on television so she has had a very
:44:09. > :44:16.good year this season. In a lot of promise but in a lot of work to do
:44:16. > :44:24.in the next two laps. Just under two laps left to go. Very strong attack
:44:24. > :44:32.coming from Anna Schnitzmeier. They want to close down everything. She
:44:32. > :44:42.must have something left in her legs to be able to do that. Charline
:44:42. > :44:49.
:44:49. > :44:59.Joiner. And Julie Erskine. They will give absolutely everything right
:44:59. > :45:03.
:45:03. > :45:06.now. Charline Joiner, she took up cycling as rehabilitation when she
:45:06. > :45:11.was injured as a hockey player. It is amazing the number of riders who
:45:11. > :45:17.first took up the sport when injured doing something else. That is what I
:45:17. > :45:20.was saying about injury, you have to work so hard to get back but you get
:45:20. > :45:30.back to a much higher level than before. And cycling is often a very
:45:30. > :45:36.big part of that. And a good number decide to stick with it. Laura Trott
:45:36. > :45:44.in the centre of your picture. Dani King is going through in second
:45:45. > :45:51.place. Loren Rowney is on about seventh place. We have about a lap
:45:51. > :45:56.and one third to go. Anna Schnitzmeier has done a fabulous
:45:56. > :46:01.job, to do this in the last couple of laps. She is making sure there is
:46:01. > :46:11.lots of pressure on the peloton. It will be interesting to see if the
:46:11. > :46:16.
:46:16. > :46:21.setup the sprint for Laura Trott Dani King. This could be set up a
:46:21. > :46:24.recommend this sprint finish on the Mall. We have the three leaders,
:46:24. > :46:30.Charline Joiner leading them up the finishing straight towards taking
:46:30. > :46:40.the bell. Anna Schnitzmeier this right behind. Julie Erskine is
:46:40. > :46:45.
:46:45. > :46:50.hanging on. She has dropped back. It is Anna Christian, the national
:46:50. > :46:54.junior champion from the Isle of Man, just 17 years of age. They
:46:54. > :47:01.cannot afford to hesitate, the bunch is closing in. What an amazing
:47:01. > :47:07.crowd. That was an amazing sound from the banging on the barriers.
:47:07. > :47:13.The bunch is coming pretty quickly. This will be some final lap. I do
:47:13. > :47:17.not think that these three will stay away. The pack will gobble them up
:47:17. > :47:27.before the end. Katie Colclough on the front, with the black slaves,
:47:27. > :47:32.
:47:32. > :47:41.from Specialized. -- black sleeves. Charline Joiner in the sky blue.
:47:41. > :47:46.Anna Schnitzmeier from is -- from Wiggle Honda. That is a fabulous
:47:46. > :47:52.effort from these riders. They have put their sprinters in a good
:47:52. > :47:56.edition, the other teams have to work. They are heading past Horse
:47:56. > :48:01.Guards Parade. Some of the riders are choosing to take the right-hand
:48:01. > :48:09.split in the road. There is some road furniture to negotiate, some
:48:09. > :48:16.speed bumps. The final tense moments. We are halfway round the
:48:16. > :48:24.final lap. A number of riders are still in contention. All of the big
:48:24. > :48:34.names are near the front now. is Emily Collins coming to take the
:48:34. > :48:39.
:48:39. > :48:47.lead. There is a crash. It is one of the Wiggle Honda riders. It is
:48:47. > :48:51.Joanna Rowsell. Five riders taken out by that. I think Helen Ralston
:48:51. > :48:58.was the first to hit the deck. At the front of the race, Emily Collins
:48:58. > :49:04.leading the way. Joanna Rowsell has fallen heavily. Here is the crash
:49:04. > :49:09.once again. That was a very nasty fall for several riders, including
:49:09. > :49:15.Joanna Rowsell. She is the world and Olympic champion with the number
:49:15. > :49:21.nine on her back. That was a heavy fall. I would not be surprised if
:49:21. > :49:28.that is a serious injury. There are 400 metres to go. The finish will
:49:28. > :49:32.look so enticing. They can see the line as they come round the corner.
:49:32. > :49:38.300 metres to go, Emily Collins on the front with Amanda Spratt in
:49:38. > :49:48.second place. Hannah Barnes is biding her time. Dani King is in the
:49:48. > :49:49.
:49:49. > :49:52.centre of your picture with Laura Trott on her real. -- we will. Laura
:49:52. > :49:58.Trott is coming through the centre, Laura Trott against Hannah Barnes,
:49:58. > :50:03.and Laura Trott takes the win. Right in front of the King Palace, the
:50:03. > :50:12.rider who is the ambassador for the race, Laura Trott, takes the victory
:50:12. > :50:17.that most of the crowd have come to see. -- Buckingham Palace. That was
:50:17. > :50:25.a hard race to judge in the headwind. Dani King started out
:50:25. > :50:32.early and Laura Trott came off her real. That was a greatly dead. She
:50:32. > :50:38.put her in the perfect edition. It was pure desire that Laura Trott got
:50:38. > :50:46.to the finish line first. Hannah Barnes was not far away. She rode a
:50:46. > :50:56.superb race, Hannah Barnes. Teamwork came into play in the last half a
:50:56. > :51:19.
:51:19. > :51:24.have been doing so much this weekend, and everyone is like, I am
:51:24. > :51:28.rooting for you. I was like, I have got to pull this off. The team
:51:28. > :51:35.worked amazingly. We did not go in with a plan that I was the sprinter.
:51:35. > :51:42.We made it aggressive. 100 riders is a lot of riders. We decided that we
:51:42. > :51:47.were going to attack, and nothing stayed away. With five laps to go,
:51:47. > :51:53.we decided to chase, rather than attack. Dani King and I said nothing
:51:53. > :51:58.to each other, it was just the way it happened. Coming into the finish,
:51:58. > :52:01.she absolutely floored it. I would not have won without her. I knew
:52:01. > :52:07.when she hit the front that there was no chance of anyone coming
:52:07. > :52:11.around. Your made up with this? Guess, I am so happy. It was such a
:52:11. > :52:15.long way to the finish and I wanted to hold it as late as possible.
:52:15. > :52:23.Laura Trott got the better of me. I cannot complain, coming second to
:52:23. > :52:28.Laura. What was it like, racing is your? It was amazing, in front of
:52:28. > :52:33.Buckingham Palace. Being in the national jersey as well, I was
:52:33. > :52:38.hoping that the Queen would come out. It is tough to counter the team
:52:38. > :52:44.as strong as Wiggle Honda in a race like this. Yes, it is their home
:52:44. > :52:47.country and you have three Olympic champion so it will always be tough.
:52:47. > :52:54.As an experience within your season, how would you rate this as an
:52:54. > :52:57.occasion? I think the way it has been run and the crowds, it is
:52:58. > :53:03.probably the best atmosphere that have raced in this year. I hope this
:53:03. > :53:09.event grows and more teams come. Laura Trott are very popular
:53:09. > :53:15.winner. Alongside me, Rochelle Gilmore. She is the reigning
:53:16. > :53:21.Commonwealth Games champion. Updaters and Joanna Rowsell. It was
:53:21. > :53:24.terrible to see. Mixed emotions at the finish. Laura Trott crossing the
:53:25. > :53:30.line first, but knowing that Joanna Rowsell was at the end of the course
:53:30. > :53:36.being put onto a stretcher. She has broken her collar bone. She will
:53:36. > :53:39.need surgery and will head to Manchester today. We have had great
:53:39. > :53:45.support from British cycling. long will rehabilitation be before
:53:45. > :53:49.she is racing on a bike? It will only be about two weeks of the bike.
:53:49. > :53:54.She is determined and she feels really quickly. She will be back on
:53:54. > :54:00.the bike in a couple of weeks. great result for Laura Trott and for
:54:00. > :54:03.Wiggle Honda. Did the race go the way you anticipated? Yes, if I had a
:54:03. > :54:09.check list of the things that the riders had to do yesterday, they did
:54:09. > :54:14.it perfectly. We had ambitions to win, not specifically with Laura
:54:14. > :54:21.Trott. They are so professional that they do not need clear
:54:21. > :54:25.instructions. The road a perfect race. It was not easy for them.
:54:25. > :54:30.King and Laura Trott, they have a great relationship on the track, but
:54:30. > :54:36.they have taken out onto the road? Guess, they know each other so well.
:54:36. > :54:40.They said they did not have to speak coming into the finish of the race.
:54:40. > :54:44.Laura Trott has so much dedication and support from Dani King. She
:54:44. > :54:49.knows that if Dani King goes longer, she can come off and win the
:54:49. > :54:54.race. Yesterday, Dani King did a perfectly dead. A little word on
:54:54. > :54:59.women's cycling. There has been a lot of talk about the Tour de France
:54:59. > :55:05.and having a women's race. How do you see the strength of the sport?
:55:05. > :55:10.think yesterday speaks loudly about cycling in the UK. The crowds were
:55:10. > :55:15.unbelievable. The women's race was the main event. They were here to
:55:15. > :55:20.see the women. They were here to see the Olympic champions and women's
:55:20. > :55:26.racing in general. It was a good show, like we had in London for the
:55:26. > :55:30.Olympics. When women cycling gets an opportunity that there is an
:55:30. > :55:34.exciting race, we have done a great job and the fans love it.
:55:34. > :55:43.women's Grand Prix was not the only race last night. There was also a
:55:43. > :55:46.junior race and a hand cycle race. Jill Douglas has the story. Jody

:02:27. > :02:36.You have done challenges before but you do have a lot of people guiding
:02:36. > :02:42.you through this? And 20,000 others? It is just sensational, for me, such
:02:42. > :02:47.an amazing pinnacle to a crazy year and for cycling, it is just an
:02:47. > :02:52.amazing event, the size is phenomenal. Little bit of nerves.
:02:52. > :02:58.But we are used to doing 120 miles every day with that challenge but
:02:58. > :03:03.this will still be fantastic. Brilliant. The sun has come out,
:03:03. > :03:11.just in time to set. Good luck! Enjoy the ride and congratulations
:03:11. > :03:15.on your fundraising. The end of this event will be like the London
:03:15. > :03:21.Marathon on wheels, one of the largest one-day fundraising events
:03:21. > :03:26.and it has been a very good start. We are building up to the classic.
:03:26. > :03:36.We have been looking forward to a great race? Fantastic race. We have
:03:36. > :03:43.
:03:43. > :03:50.the double green jersey winner Peter Sagan. And David Mellor is here. And
:03:50. > :03:52.Gerald Ciolek. We are expecting a finish with a very large group
:03:52. > :03:57.because one third of this is climbing so that comes into the
:03:57. > :04:02.middle of the course. If this does split things up, there is plenty of
:04:02. > :04:07.opportunity to come back. There are only six riders for every team so to
:04:07. > :04:10.control the race is harder. But a very good race in prospect. You
:04:10. > :04:16.mentioned that the course is different from the Olympic road
:04:16. > :04:21.race. That's how they look. Starting at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park
:04:21. > :04:27.passing Canary Wharf, the Tower of London. Across the Thames, through
:04:27. > :04:37.the cycling mecca that is Richmond Park. And into the picturesque
:04:37. > :04:37.
:04:37. > :04:46.countryside. Newlands Corner, back towards central London. And back
:04:46. > :04:51.across the Thames, over the Embankment and finishing, the
:04:51. > :04:55.opposite way to the Olympic road race, at the mall. We sold with the
:04:55. > :05:01.women's Grand Prix, the importance of a very strong team in controlling
:05:01. > :05:06.the race. That will be important? Is It very tough out there so that if
:05:06. > :05:09.they want to come down to a sprint, the sprinter must be dependent on
:05:09. > :05:15.team-mates and the better the job of the team-mates, the fresher the legs
:05:15. > :05:19.of the sprinter. We saw Wiggle Honda supporting or trot very well and she
:05:19. > :05:29.had more power at the finish so it will be very important for the team
:05:29. > :05:33.
:05:33. > :05:39.as a whole. We mentioned some names but here are the ones to watch.
:05:39. > :05:45.like London very well, after a very tough Tour of France, maybe I won't
:05:45. > :05:55.have too much pressure, you know? I can start good with this race and I
:05:55. > :05:58.
:05:58. > :06:02.want to make good reparation. British public prove that they are
:06:02. > :06:07.the best because they very rarely get to see excitement levels through
:06:07. > :06:12.the roof. And I also have Peter Sagan, so that makes it harder, he
:06:12. > :06:18.is the green jersey winner from that. One of the best sprinters in
:06:18. > :06:28.the world. But I think there are a lot of people who don't want this to
:06:28. > :06:28.
:06:29. > :06:34.finish in a sprint and I am one of those. This is not easy but we shall
:06:35. > :06:43.see the sprint. In other races in the UK, Olympic races, what I
:06:43. > :06:49.remember always is a lot of spectators and great public. That
:06:49. > :06:54.keeps up motivation. It is very good for the riders. It will be amazing.
:06:54. > :06:59.The Olympics last year was one thing but this is such a one-off, special
:06:59. > :07:06.event and it is nice to do this in more relaxed circumstances. It is
:07:06. > :07:15.always nice to finish in big cities. In front of big buildings and I
:07:15. > :07:25.think that is nice. I want to be on the front. And for the sprint, I
:07:25. > :07:29.
:07:29. > :07:39.want to do well. Another couple of riders, Ben Swift. And also Matthew
:07:39. > :07:40.
:07:40. > :07:46.Goss. These boys hope there could be as Brent to the end. You had a very
:07:46. > :07:50.difficult journey to the start line? It has been an very long week,
:07:50. > :07:55.starting in Italy. We have that European trip to get here but it is
:07:55. > :08:00.nice to be back. That jet set lifestyle! But you are very keen to
:08:00. > :08:05.get back onto these roads in front of the home crowd? This is the very
:08:05. > :08:11.first time Britain has had a very big one-day race and there is a very
:08:11. > :08:17.good field. You were not able to make the squad last year. Are you
:08:17. > :08:23.keen to do the business this time? We will give it a very good go. It
:08:23. > :08:32.is quite tough. It is looking pretty fast back to the finish with a very
:08:32. > :08:39.strong tailwind. I am sure it will be brilliant. And alongside me,
:08:39. > :08:48.Matthew Goss. You have been recovering? I am starting to get
:08:48. > :08:51.back onto my bike. But it is great to come back 12 months on. It is
:08:51. > :08:56.just great to see a one-day race like this and hopefully it keeps
:08:56. > :09:05.going forward. Having ridden on the same course or similar last year,
:09:05. > :09:10.how will this play up? Sprint to the mile? Hopefully. But it shall be up
:09:10. > :09:17.and down, it will not be straightforward. There is a very
:09:17. > :09:21.good chance of bunch spread but with six riders for every team, it will
:09:21. > :09:26.be harder to control. We wish both of you the very best of luck. And
:09:27. > :09:36.hopefully it could be an England, Australia race at the end. Best of
:09:37. > :09:37.
:09:37. > :09:41.luck. It is like the Ashes on a bike! Simon Brotherton will join the
:09:41. > :09:51.commentary team shortly. Everybody seems to be calling this a lunch
:09:51. > :09:51.
:09:51. > :09:57.sprint. It would be a very exciting finish. -- bunch. If it comes to
:09:57. > :10:01.that, it will be very exciting. talk about the Olympic road race,
:10:01. > :10:09.there was the breakaway that one that what with the likes of David
:10:09. > :10:15.Mellor, he will be very highly motivated. -- David Millar. It is
:10:15. > :10:24.very hard to control. There would be a chance for somebody like him to
:10:24. > :10:30.breakaway and he does not want that to come down to the bunch. And
:10:30. > :10:36.having said that, Peter Sagan, described by Mark Cavendish is one
:10:36. > :10:42.in a generation. He can do both? He is one of the crowd favourites after
:10:42. > :10:47.the Tour de France. He is such an exciting rider. He will not want to
:10:47. > :10:51.let anybody go. And he is strong enough to cover so many moves. In
:10:51. > :11:00.terms of recovery from the Tour de France, it was three very hard
:11:00. > :11:06.weeks, including Peter Sagan. about recovery? Well, Matthew Goss
:11:06. > :11:10.said he has been relaxing on his couch. I imagine it would be very
:11:10. > :11:14.hard for these boys to recover with just a couple of weeks. It is such a
:11:14. > :11:21.demanding race and I know from myself, if we race for a couple of
:11:21. > :11:26.weeks, it takes over one week to recover. Perhaps Gerald Ciolek is
:11:26. > :11:34.not known to many people but he also won in Milan in a sprint finish. It
:11:34. > :11:40.will be very exciting to see Matthew Goss come to that sprint at the end.
:11:40. > :11:43.After being on the couch for one week! We could see a very
:11:43. > :11:47.competitive hundred and Christopher Sutton at the very end of this. None
:11:47. > :11:57.of the names that the British public are used to, but the Wiggins or
:11:57. > :12:04.
:12:04. > :12:09.Chris Froome. What do you know about Ben Swift? -- Bradley. Competition
:12:09. > :12:13.will be very high. A number of the riders, just six members in every
:12:13. > :12:20.team as opposed to nine of them. Does that make it ethical to
:12:20. > :12:28.control? For the bigger teams, they will find it more difficult, like
:12:28. > :12:33.Orica Greenedge. This is new. Other teams that are not as strong, they
:12:33. > :12:37.are used to driving -- riding with six strong men. Bigger teams will
:12:37. > :12:42.find it more difficult to control but this opens things up for a more
:12:42. > :12:51.exciting race with less men. And fewer alliances on the road?
:12:51. > :12:56.Absolutely. Conversations will take place, if somebody needs help, that
:12:56. > :13:01.quite often happens in cycling, they will have conversations, let us help
:13:01. > :13:07.each other out and then we will go for the win. Back to the commentary
:13:07. > :13:17.team, Rob Hayles and Simon Brotherton. Ready for the
:13:17. > :13:25.
:13:25. > :13:32.centrepiece race. The Prudential 20,000 people have already set out
:13:33. > :13:40.on this route. Rob Hills has made this before the start of the race.
:13:40. > :13:44.This is the very essence of what cycling is. You can ride on the same
:13:44. > :13:52.roads and feel the same pain that comes through the hard effort. But
:13:52. > :13:57.ever effort you are at, you can have empathy with the athletes. You can
:13:57. > :14:03.really get in and see the riders. You can ride on the roads. But they
:14:03. > :14:13.are doing that. But to be able to go over the roads and watch the elite
:14:13. > :14:14.
:14:14. > :14:18.race. And pinpoint exactly where they are. And cycling is like that
:14:18. > :14:21.and all of the riders that there are, it is open to everybody.
:14:21. > :14:27.Looking at those bikes going through, we will watch some of those
:14:27. > :14:35.riders coming through. We did some calculation is and we reckon that on
:14:35. > :14:38.the side of caution, there are over 40 million worth of bicycles.
:14:38. > :14:43.Absolutely incredible. And the way that those riders have come through
:14:43. > :14:48.the finish today, they absolutely emptied themselves and they are
:14:48. > :14:56.cheering themselves on and there are individuals and groups going
:14:56. > :15:02.together, it is absolutely fantastic to see. And I am glad to see Boris
:15:02. > :15:12.having engineered the weather yet again! The start of this race.
:15:12. > :15:19.
:15:19. > :15:29.Starting from the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. 12 months on. That is
:15:29. > :15:31.
:15:31. > :15:35.a good turnout today. Next spring, the cycling park will open. It will
:15:35. > :15:44.be the first venue in the world to bring together the four disciplines
:15:44. > :15:50.of track, road, mountain biking and BMX in one venue. This is where the
:15:50. > :15:55.Olympic velodrome was. London is currently bidding to host the 2016
:15:55. > :16:02.track World Championships. There will be an event date in March of
:16:02. > :16:06.next year. What do you think might happen in the early stages? Some of
:16:06. > :16:11.the British professional teams might be keen to show their jerseys in the
:16:11. > :16:19.opening kilometres? That is right. There are all up at the front as
:16:19. > :16:25.expected. James McCallum, Rapha Condor JLT. He is a former Scottish
:16:25. > :16:33.National road race champion. Sigma Sport are also on the front. There
:16:33. > :16:40.are two of the rally riders. Node four are right in there. -- Team
:16:40. > :16:50.Raleigh riders. Are any of them likely to finish at the sharp end
:16:50. > :16:54.today? It is possible, but more than likely not. Someone like Kristian
:16:54. > :17:01.House, from Rapha Condor, again, a former Mountain jersey winner from
:17:01. > :17:06.the two that Britain. Here he is in the centre of the shot. I imagine
:17:06. > :17:11.that he would be keen to get up the road. Kristian House, we will be
:17:11. > :17:16.seeing him in the early stages, a former British national champion.
:17:16. > :17:21.The riders start to wind their way through London. They will head
:17:21. > :17:30.across central London before heading south west over the river. This is a
:17:30. > :17:37.long race. You wonder if many of the British professionals will be in the
:17:37. > :17:40.business end of the race at the end. They do not have many of these races
:17:40. > :17:50.of this length and intensity. It is more like a criterion -based
:17:50. > :17:54.
:17:54. > :17:59.programme. This is the issue. -- criterium. The staple diet of the
:17:59. > :18:05.British riders is criterium is. Those races only last for an hour.
:18:05. > :18:10.To come to a race like this, it is a tall order. Many of the riders will
:18:10. > :18:14.have raced over that distance, but it is just the amount of times they
:18:14. > :18:24.are subjected to that distance and the intensity. This is the route
:18:24. > :18:24.
:18:24. > :19:17.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 52 seconds
:19:17. > :19:20.from commentary positions in Italy and France this summer, but I think
:19:20. > :19:25.this is well up there. I am happy with the view we have got at the
:19:25. > :19:30.moment. There are plenty of pictures, and quite a few of them
:19:30. > :19:34.are empty at the moment, but they will no doubt fill up. The riders
:19:34. > :19:40.are winging their way back to the Mall. We are expecting thousands
:19:40. > :19:46.upon thousands at the finish. Every time that the British put on an
:19:46. > :19:49.event like this, whether it be they could of Britain, a fantastic
:19:49. > :19:55.weekend of Olympic road race is that we had, and let's not forget the
:19:55. > :20:05.women's race. How bad was the weather? But the people were out in
:20:05. > :20:08.
:20:08. > :20:13.their thousands. We are expecting more of the same today. They dispute
:20:13. > :20:23.are sagging. He is the man that everyone is talking about. -- Vedas
:20:23. > :20:24.
:20:24. > :20:31.Peter Sagan. He was a little bit underwhelming in the Tour de France.
:20:31. > :20:34.I say that although he did win his third consecutive green jersey.
:20:34. > :20:41.won three stages in the first week last week. This year, just the one
:20:41. > :20:48.stage. I was having a low, four times he finished second in this
:20:48. > :20:53.year's Tour de France. He finished in the top four in nine of the 21
:20:53. > :21:01.stages. Exactly, but from a visual perspective, he was quite
:21:01. > :21:06.underwhelming. He was not underwhelming on the final day. He
:21:06. > :21:10.was quite overwhelming, with his green beard and everything else. He
:21:10. > :21:16.really got into the spirit of things. Fortunately he has managed
:21:16. > :21:19.to wash that I'd. Mark Cavendish, having won that green jersey a
:21:19. > :21:26.couple of years ago, all things being equal, he has his work cut out
:21:26. > :21:29.to win it again. Peter Sagan is a good all-round rider. He can spread
:21:29. > :21:37.pretty well and they can get over the claims better than Mark
:21:37. > :21:43.Cavendish. This is his strength. I saw a poster this week. It was a
:21:43. > :21:52.picture of Peter Sagan in his green jersey, saying, the world's fastest
:21:52. > :22:02.sprinter. That is not true. It is just that they can get himself over
:22:02. > :22:10.
:22:10. > :22:14.the hardest stages that the out and sprinters cannot. There will be a
:22:14. > :22:18.queue of traffic somewhere with those riders heading down the 12.
:22:18. > :22:27.am sure there are lots of motorists complaining that a greater is
:22:27. > :22:32.blocking up the roads. But it makes a change from the cars! They are
:22:32. > :22:38.heading down the south bank of the river. They will turn right and head
:22:38. > :22:44.into the centre of London. The peloton with a rolling start today.
:22:44. > :22:51.They are getting loosened up. The women's race was delayed last night.
:22:51. > :22:58.A couple of them -- a couple of riders were injured in a previous
:22:58. > :23:02.race. No such problems today for the mens rea is. They are following in
:23:02. > :23:12.the real tracks of 20,000 cyclists who set off today in the
:23:12. > :23:16.
:23:16. > :23:25.London-Surrey 100. -- they are following in the usual tracks. --
:23:25. > :23:30.wheel tracks. Mild but blustery conditions today. It is surprisingly
:23:30. > :23:40.windy. Yes, and it will be interesting to see what happens when
:23:40. > :23:45.
:23:45. > :23:50.we head for the site. Hopefully it will stay dry. I do not think there
:23:50. > :23:54.will be any rain. Hopefully not, because there are lots of shadows
:23:55. > :24:00.and undercover trees on the circuit. Yes, there are lots of narrow
:24:00. > :24:04.country roads in Surrey. It is a beautiful place to go cycling, but
:24:04. > :24:10.lots of the trees meet in the middle of the above your head. Potential
:24:11. > :24:19.damp patches. It certainly was when I was last upon Leith Hill. We will
:24:19. > :24:25.have to keep an eye on that. The O2, the world's busiest
:24:25. > :24:32.entertainment venue. I cannot believe it has been a year since the
:24:32. > :24:38.Olympics. It was a year ago today that Laura Trott, Joanna Rowsell and
:24:38. > :24:43.Dani King wonder gold medal in the team pursuit. Per Joanna Rowsell.
:24:44. > :24:48.Waking up this morning getting ready for surgery on her collar bone.
:24:48. > :24:54.she will have surgery on that. We know she is watching and we wish her
:24:54. > :25:04.well. We wish her a speedy recovery. I know that she will be back in the
:25:04. > :25:09.
:25:09. > :25:14.saddle again soon. Nearly time to get racing now. Some of the riders
:25:15. > :25:24.are going up to the commerce's car. That is out there because the is
:25:25. > :25:27.
:25:27. > :25:33.still neutralised. -- going up to the referee's car. Can you explain
:25:33. > :25:37.why you have a neutralised section? They do it in the Tour de France.
:25:37. > :25:42.They do. Often it is to put a little bit of a circuit through the
:25:42. > :25:47.starting time. A lot of the towns first stage races like the Tour de
:25:47. > :25:53.France, they pay a lot of money and they like to get a little bit of a
:25:53. > :26:00.showcase of the time. Often the roads are too dangerous to race on,
:26:00. > :26:09.so the neutralised section is just to get the riders under way, and get
:26:09. > :26:14.them out onto the open roads. They put in these circuits to give the
:26:14. > :26:20.local crowd is an eye for the racing. It does get the riders under
:26:20. > :26:24.way and it is a bit of a legless now. But normally, when the flag
:26:25. > :26:30.comes in, the general rule of thumb is that someone will attack. We will
:26:30. > :26:40.have to wait and see what they do. They all looked like greyhounds
:26:40. > :26:40.
:26:40. > :26:50.waiting to be let out of the traps. A lot of the British riders are
:26:50. > :26:56.starting to come up to the front. Vacansoleil on the left-hand side.
:26:56. > :27:02.There is a Node 4-Giordana rider on the front. They are keen to get into
:27:02. > :27:06.the action. Not necessarily to put in an attack, but if you can stay at
:27:06. > :27:11.the front, it is often much easier than being further back and the
:27:11. > :27:17.concertina effect from the peloton. You need to be vigilant in the
:27:17. > :27:20.opening kilometres. You can see riders coming up on the right-hand
:27:20. > :27:30.side of the screen, trying to move forward, one of the Argos-Shimano
:27:30. > :27:33.
:27:33. > :27:43.riders. The lead car has had to speed up, I think! Ian Bibby on the
:27:43. > :27:43.
:27:43. > :27:49.right-hand side of the screen. Nearly time to get underway, and the
:27:49. > :27:52.race is under as the flag disappears. The London Sony classic
:27:52. > :27:59.is officially underway, and the rider from Vacansoleil coming
:27:59. > :28:08.towards the front. That was not the attack we were expecting, it was
:28:08. > :28:16.just to get things away. Liam Holahan in second and Kristian House
:28:16. > :28:21.in third. I'm pretty sure that he will be fairly active. He will be
:28:21. > :28:26.desperate to get up the road. He was very active in the Olympic test
:28:26. > :28:36.event that ran out from the Mall. It was three laps over the Olympic
:28:36. > :28:37.
:28:37. > :28:42.circuit. A wonderful panoramic view of London. We are looking towards
:28:42. > :28:47.the centre of time. That is where the riders are headed for at this
:28:47. > :28:57.particular moment. -- towards the centre of the city. This is Canary
:28:57. > :29:04.
:29:04. > :29:14.Wharf. 100,000 people work there. Until the 50s, these were one of the
:29:14. > :29:18.
:29:18. > :29:23.busiest dogs in the world. -- docks. It also hosts the Tour Series.
:29:23. > :29:29.criterium races are based on a one kilometre circuit. That is the
:29:29. > :29:35.hotbed for the British talent. That is why today is such an uphill
:29:35. > :29:41.battle for so many of them, going from one kilometre circuit to over
:29:41. > :29:49.an hour. It is difficult for them to get the kind of workload that they
:29:49. > :29:54.need, to intersperse road racing as well. When you look at this rate, is
:29:54. > :30:00.it tough enough to give us a real sorting out? The thing that we
:30:00. > :30:10.mentioned before is the fact that it is only six riders for every team
:30:10. > :30:12.
:30:12. > :30:20.and a couple of teams are down to only five. Gerald Ciolek, he is down
:30:20. > :30:26.to only Ford team-mates already. -- for. It is harder for teams to
:30:26. > :30:30.control and that is what we saw with the Olympics. Mark Cavendish, his
:30:31. > :30:33.attempt, and they tried to do what they did to replicate what they did
:30:33. > :30:39.the year before but with less riders and with having only five
:30:39. > :30:46.team-mates, it is so much harder, you have to be so much more
:30:46. > :30:52.attentive. And also, some luck comes into this and wanting to have other
:30:52. > :31:02.teams coming and working with you. We have about five teams who want to
:31:02. > :31:03.
:31:03. > :31:13.come down to the sprint, Team Sky are one of them. Orica Greenedge.
:31:13. > :31:16.
:31:16. > :31:21.Cannondale Pro Cycling. Probably Bardiani Valvole CSF INOX as well.
:31:21. > :31:27.So, they are the teams that you would expect to want this to come
:31:27. > :31:35.back to the sprint finish. If they can work, that makes it easier for
:31:35. > :31:45.them to come back. On the other hand, teams like what we can see, he
:31:45. > :31:46.
:31:46. > :31:54.will not want this to come back to this -- to the sprint finish. So,
:31:54. > :32:03.Peter Sedan, he has got his work cut out. -- Peter Sagan. Depending on
:32:03. > :32:08.the Tour France, I am sure he would have ridden since then. How his legs
:32:08. > :32:16.are feeling, we will have to wait and see. But this circuit is not
:32:16. > :32:25.tough enough to really trouble any of the continental professionals.
:32:25. > :32:32.This sorting out process with breakers and eventually, one or more
:32:32. > :32:42.of them are allowed to get away. Just a little attack on the side of
:32:42. > :32:49.the road. Team IG-Sigma Sport have got one up there. The British teams
:32:49. > :32:51.are really coming to the fore in the opening kilometres. Yes, I would
:32:51. > :32:58.imagine that some of those continental teams would be happy to
:32:58. > :33:00.just sit back and let things unfold because the style of racing for
:33:00. > :33:08.British and Continental is quite different so it will be interesting
:33:08. > :33:14.to see this unfolding and at the moment, it is going to course.
:33:14. > :33:19.teams trying to track from the front and shake things up and there will
:33:19. > :33:24.be lots of riders back in the peloton, happy to sit back and
:33:24. > :33:31.follow the wheels. Nice and flat at the moment so no great problems. The
:33:31. > :33:37.Tower of London, one of the most photographed spots in London.
:33:37. > :33:42.runners head over that bridge during the London Marathon. They are on
:33:42. > :33:48.that route at this point in time. As you can see from the top left, there
:33:48. > :33:54.is a very long way to go until they reach the mall. Even though, as the
:33:54. > :34:01.crow flies, it is not too far away at the moment. This is a very quick
:34:01. > :34:06.section of road. There are some potholes and drain covers that they
:34:06. > :34:10.will have to negotiate. They have to keep their wits about them. Lots of
:34:10. > :34:15.information coming between the riders, especially if they know they
:34:15. > :34:19.have got their team-mates with them, pointing out the holes and the
:34:19. > :34:28.difficulties because at this speed, when running with 25 millimetre
:34:28. > :34:37.tyres below you, that is all you need! At any stage, having to change
:34:37. > :34:41.your wheel or a puncture, you can do without that. At this point, you are
:34:41. > :34:46.just trying to get yourself into the race. It is quick at the moment but
:34:46. > :34:52.all of those teen car is behind them at the moment, ready and waiting
:34:52. > :34:58.with mechanics. They cannot go to sleep just yet. London is really
:34:58. > :35:01.laying on all of the sites at the moment. As they head west. Just a
:35:01. > :35:10.couple of streets away from St Paul's Cathedral and Blackfriars
:35:10. > :35:17.Bridge. Massive crowd in the centre of London. It will go just behind,
:35:17. > :35:22.here Powell mall. A number of people have just wandered up to watch this.
:35:22. > :35:26.As they head up Saint James Street and Piccadilly, towards Hyde Park
:35:26. > :35:31.and they have more than enough time to wander back through Green Park.
:35:31. > :35:36.There is live music and all sorts going on today. There is a real
:35:36. > :35:45.festival atmosphere and this is what this is. This is really the icing on
:35:46. > :35:51.the cake of RideLondon. This professional road race. We have one
:35:51. > :35:58.rider going clear. He looks over his shoulder. He is thinking, please, do
:35:58. > :36:03.not let me go alone. Please, somebody, Compaq is. And there are
:36:03. > :36:13.four riders coming to do just that. After the next few attacks,
:36:13. > :36:13.
:36:13. > :36:22.depending on the combination of riders, as the team starts to push
:36:22. > :36:28.on. That is the classic sprint stage. Whereby they let them do
:36:28. > :36:33.their thing and then sprinters get-together over the back half of
:36:33. > :36:42.the race and they start to reel them in and is plenty of time after those
:36:42. > :36:50.harder sections to do just that. Charring Cross. They will turn
:36:50. > :37:00.right, Northumberland Avenue. across Trafalgar Square. Just that
:37:00. > :37:22.
:37:22. > :37:27.little shot of the finish at fantastic weather today. It is dry,
:37:27. > :37:33.it is not too hot at the moment but a couple of days ago, it was
:37:33. > :37:40.sweltering. So, this will be welcome respite for many of those riders who
:37:40. > :37:44.have been racing in Europe, even in the UK! It has been so hot. One of
:37:45. > :37:49.the outpost riders coming to the front. Just getting the first hint
:37:49. > :37:53.that maybe there is a little breakaway group forming in the next
:37:53. > :38:03.few minutes. Some persistent dizziness at the front of the
:38:03. > :38:12.
:38:12. > :38:22.peloton. -- busyness. This just shows the speed of the men at the
:38:22. > :38:26.
:38:26. > :38:36.front. That looks like an hundred and Christian Delle Stelle. -- Dan
:38:36. > :38:42.Craven. We are expecting them to reach that finish line at any time
:38:42. > :38:48.between 5:45pm and 6:15pm, depending on the average speed, something like
:38:48. > :38:54.that. It is a very long day in the saddle. And depending on the
:38:54. > :39:03.weather, that will help. It is nice and dry. There is a fair amount of
:39:03. > :39:12.wind out there and that is quite cooling. The first of the big teams,
:39:12. > :39:19.starting to put their move in. Belkin Pro Cycling Team. This just
:39:19. > :39:24.tightens up. Some riders starting to live through the road cones, through
:39:24. > :39:30.the bollards. And that is one of the problems with inner bike racing. The
:39:30. > :39:38.furniture, as we call it, that is a problem. Piccadilly. And that is
:39:38. > :39:48.Green Park, live music will be there later on. They are heading towards
:39:48. > :39:56.
:39:56. > :40:06.Hyde Park corner and then Cromwell Road. A quick wheel change. James
:40:06. > :40:06.
:40:06. > :40:16.McCullum. He could do without this. The riders are going clear. That was
:40:16. > :40:19.
:40:19. > :40:26.a very good wheel change, quick, and he will be straight back in. Belkin
:40:27. > :40:36.Pro Cycling Team. The team is being led by the Australian rider, Jack
:40:36. > :40:44.Bobridge. Silver medallist from the London Olympic Games. He is such a
:40:44. > :40:50.talent, Jack Bobridge. And Belkin Pro Cycling Team have been starting
:40:50. > :40:55.this one man down. And that will help their chances, they will be
:40:55. > :41:00.looking to try to stir things up, as they are doing here. Still waiting
:41:00. > :41:10.for an early pattern to emerge. The constant ebb and flow. Riders trying
:41:10. > :41:12.
:41:12. > :41:21.to form breakaway groups. Nobody successful. Brompton Road. Heading
:41:21. > :41:24.through Knightsbridge. And another Olympic venue, Hyde Park. Hosting
:41:24. > :41:34.the triathlon and the open water swimming. And Wembley Stadium in the
:41:34. > :41:52.
:41:52. > :41:56.the World Championships, which will be broadcast on the BBC. Team GB
:41:56. > :42:06.drivers on the front. This is interesting. Very promising young
:42:06. > :42:09.
:42:09. > :42:17.riders. Simon Yates. Adam Yates. Daniel McClay. Great opportunity.
:42:17. > :42:27.Fantastic opportunity and they are very good group of riders.
:42:27. > :42:37.
:42:37. > :42:42.Especially with Yates. Fantastic coaching. Bike Chris Newton. -- by.
:42:42. > :42:50.Well, plenty of celebrities taking part. James Cracknell in the centre
:42:50. > :43:00.of the picture. The fastest of the celebrities. And he had a little
:43:00. > :43:08.chat after finishing his 100 mile 's. James, the first celebrity home.
:43:08. > :43:17.Fantastic performance, did you enjoy that? Really good. Having cycled
:43:17. > :43:22.around London and the area, normally in a car, it is great to go down the
:43:22. > :43:26.Embankment so fast. And there are a lot of very fit people here but not
:43:26. > :43:31.members of cycling clubs, so I could latch onto the back of one of those
:43:31. > :43:36.groups and not do any work so I just slipstreamed my way around so thank
:43:36. > :43:45.you to everybody! When you look back at some of you look back at some of
:43:45. > :43:50.your endeavours, this is just a nice Sunday morning? Yes, can I watch the
:43:50. > :43:57.cricket? ! The best thing was coming into this park, having been here
:43:57. > :44:01.last year, and so many table flooding in, but to do something. It
:44:01. > :44:07.is better to do something rather than just applaud and that was
:44:07. > :44:11.really good. Wonderful response from the crowd? They were all clapping,
:44:11. > :44:18.they probably came to see the professionals later on! You could
:44:18. > :44:24.just about join them! I think he enjoyed himself! James Cracknell,
:44:24. > :44:29.after riding today. He looked in pretty good shape, considering he
:44:29. > :44:36.had covered 100 mile 's? Yes, but like she said, be sporting events
:44:36. > :44:43.that he has done over the years, absolutely amazing talent. And he
:44:43. > :44:47.does love bike riding. He was smiling past the finish. He was
:44:48. > :44:52.loving it and that is the thing with bicycle riding, the amount of guys
:44:52. > :44:58.and girls coming through the finish and they absolutely put themselves
:44:58. > :45:06.on the line, they have emptied themselves but beaming smiles. Team
:45:06. > :45:16.Raleigh. Tom Scully. He has had a very good year, from New Zealand.
:45:16. > :45:20.
:45:20. > :45:27.Just stringing out the peloton. We saw Brian Cookson earlier on.
:45:27. > :45:32.president of British cycling. He is a candidate for the UCI presidency.
:45:32. > :45:39.That would certainly change things in the world of cycling. Great to
:45:39. > :45:49.see him out there and finishing in good shape. The race now heads out
:45:49. > :45:53.
:45:53. > :45:59.of central London, West, Hammersmith. 206 kilometres to go.
:45:59. > :46:05.The peloton is not letting anyone go clear, it is not letting groups go.
:46:05. > :46:15.One man on his own is not going to do any damage. Here's hoping that
:46:15. > :46:15.
:46:15. > :46:25.someone will come up to him any time soon. This riders from La Pomme
:46:25. > :46:33.Marseille. They are one of the Continental teams taking part today.
:46:33. > :46:43.This team has been around for years, in various guises. This rider
:46:43. > :46:43.
:46:43. > :46:48.has had some good results. He was third in Paris Camembert. That
:46:48. > :46:58.sounds like my sort of race! I do not think you would win your body in
:46:58. > :47:07.
:47:07. > :47:16.cheese. I walked into that one. FDJ have a rider on the front. Belkin
:47:16. > :47:26.are chasing hard. It is just like Beecher do France. The French do
:47:26. > :47:32.
:47:32. > :47:42.like to chase the French. -- like me to do France. -- like the Tour de
:47:42. > :47:46.
:47:46. > :47:52.France. The riders are starting to put on the pressure. The rider on
:47:52. > :47:57.the back is James McCallum. unfortunately punctured. Yes, he had
:47:57. > :48:07.a puncture in Piccadilly and he has been chasing ever since. They're
:48:07. > :48:09.
:48:09. > :48:16.here, number 66. This is Belkin.He has a bit of a problem with his race
:48:16. > :48:19.number. It has come loose and it is flapping around. The mechanic has
:48:19. > :48:29.the unenviable task of hanging out of the car and trying not to lose
:48:29. > :48:46.
:48:46. > :48:56.his fingers. The cyclists are preparing to head south of the
:48:56. > :49:05.river. IG-Sigma Sport are up there, Orica as well. There is a little bit
:49:05. > :49:13.of talking going on among those at the front. The peloton is keen to
:49:13. > :49:21.try and stay together as much as possible. This will probably be the
:49:21. > :49:28.pattern, until we head into the open roads out of the city. There is Matt
:49:28. > :49:37.Goss, number 41. He is trying to loosen his legs up. He will be keen
:49:37. > :49:44.to not show his face until the race gets going. He is a sprinter. He was
:49:44. > :49:51.underwhelming in the Giro d'Italia. He got himself set up in the first
:49:51. > :49:56.stage. Yes, but they only managed four. He was put in a great position
:49:56. > :50:06.by his lead out train but he did not have the legs. But he is a former
:50:06. > :50:10.
:50:10. > :50:16.winner of Milan San Remo. That is the one thing you would say coming
:50:16. > :50:18.into this race, it is a great shame that that is no Chris Froome,
:50:18. > :50:26.Bradley Wiggins or Mark Cavendish, three major figures in world
:50:26. > :50:31.cycling. They are all engaged elsewhere. That is right. Who knows
:50:31. > :50:41.what Chris Froome is getting up to at the moment? He has been doing
:50:41. > :50:46.lots of criterium is after the Tour de France. Bradley Wiggins won the
:50:46. > :50:56.final stage yesterday of the two have Poland. It was a good ride by
:50:56. > :51:11.
:51:11. > :51:17.him. It was a fantastic ride. is Peter Williams of IG-Sigma Sport.
:51:17. > :51:21.If you do not get in a move quickly, you have lost your opportunity. It
:51:21. > :51:27.seems that it is not getting away, so that is the opportunity for
:51:27. > :51:32.others to join. In situations like this, riders come across in ones and
:51:32. > :51:42.twos. Before you not, there are great guys up the road and the group
:51:42. > :51:42.
:51:42. > :51:48.just swells. That is where the problems start. There is Jack
:51:48. > :51:54.Bobridge on the left-hand side of the picture, with his team-mates.
:51:54. > :51:58.This is further back down the peloton. They are going quickly.
:51:58. > :52:07.They're all tucked into the right-hand side of the road. There
:52:07. > :52:13.is Matt Goss, just following the wheel of Brett Lancaster. Here's
:52:13. > :52:21.another experienced rider from Orica Greenedge. Orica is effectively
:52:21. > :52:24.Australia's equivalent of the Sky professional cycling team. Yes, they
:52:25. > :52:31.are based at the is truly an Institute of sport. Unfortunately
:52:31. > :52:41.for them, they have not managed to achieve the same standard as Dave
:52:41. > :52:42.
:52:42. > :52:48.Brailsford. Orica Greenedge did not start very well. Their team bus got
:52:48. > :52:53.wedged underneath the finishing line in Corsica. It was the first and
:52:53. > :52:57.last day that that bus driver work for Orica, I think. There was a
:52:57. > :53:03.great shot of him sitting in the bus with his head in his hands, with the
:53:03. > :53:13.bus wedged underneath refinishing gantry. The riders were five minutes
:53:13. > :53:25.
:53:25. > :53:32.away. The organisers were panicking. All sorts of commotion that day.
:53:32. > :53:42.None more so than when that a graphic card. -- that big crash
:53:42. > :53:48.
:53:48. > :53:58.occurred. Per diem Thomas. -- poor Geraint Thomas. It is a shame that
:53:58. > :54:01.
:54:01. > :54:09.we cannot see some of those British riders now. They are not letting a
:54:09. > :54:13.breakaway goal. The peloton and extremely active. There are so many
:54:13. > :54:21.riders in the peloton that are desperate to the move keep it to a
:54:21. > :54:26.sprint finish. They are heading towards Richmond Park. Richmond Park
:54:26. > :54:33.could be interesting, with the wind. It can blow across their quite
:54:33. > :54:43.strongly. You may see a little bit of a launch pad there. It was
:54:43. > :54:43.
:54:43. > :54:53.interesting for Fabi and can chill out in the Olympic road race. -- for
:54:53. > :55:00.
:55:00. > :55:07.Fabian Cancellara. Yes, he took that right-hander too quickly.
:55:07. > :55:12.Vacansoleil at the front. The weather is staying dry for the big
:55:12. > :55:19.race today. There is plenty of cloud around, but it is every chance that
:55:19. > :55:24.we will have a dry race. That is good news, particularly for those
:55:24. > :55:27.treacherous roads in Surrey. They are very picturesque, but they can
:55:27. > :55:34.be treacherous when wet, particularly because the undercover
:55:34. > :55:39.of trees for most part of the year. A nice group has formed, but whether
:55:39. > :55:48.it is the wrong combination, I do not know. There are only a couple of
:55:48. > :55:52.riders left on the front are willing to take a turn and push it on. If
:55:52. > :56:02.this breakaway continues to work, or not work, as it were, it will get
:56:02. > :56:05.
:56:05. > :56:14.full back. -- pulled back. There is still a lot of looking around rather
:56:14. > :56:24.than total commitment to breakaways. NetApp-Endura now on the left-hand
:56:24. > :56:25.
:56:25. > :56:30.side of the screen. Here we are, Richmond Park. This has got to be a
:56:30. > :56:35.great place to sit and watch the race. UKIP talk about the side of
:56:35. > :56:45.the road with a picnic. Watch some of the best by graders in the world.
:56:45. > :56:58.
:56:58. > :57:04.It is NetApp-Endura. -- best bike riders. Jonathan McEvoy from
:57:04. > :57:14.NetApp-Endura. I said to him once, why does it always looked like
:57:14. > :57:31.
:57:31. > :57:37.you're riding flat out, and he said, because I am. He is a great rider.
:57:37. > :57:41.This is a very popular spot for people to go cycling. It is a real
:57:41. > :57:46.mecca for cyclists. We were saying how many bikes there were right here
:57:46. > :57:52.today. Normally on the weekend round here, there are groups and groups of
:57:52. > :57:57.by graders. It is a night there for car drivers because the speed limit
:57:57. > :58:05.is about 20 mph. That is around the sweet spot for a group of guys going
:58:05. > :58:12.round here. All sorts of bother. You would be able to sit on the back
:58:12. > :58:19.around Richmond Park? I have, on several occasions. This is Thomas
:58:19. > :58:28.Rostollan of La Pomme Marseille. wind must be coming across from the
:58:28. > :58:38.left-hand shoulder. The riders want to try and get in the wheels and out
:58:38. > :58:38.
:58:38. > :58:46.of the way. This looks like Jack Bauer from garment. He had that
:58:46. > :58:55.horrendous crash. His Tour de France ended a day or two from Paris.
:58:55. > :58:59.had. He had to have facial surgery. He is a former team-mate of years?
:58:59. > :59:06.Yes, and I was surprised to see his name on the start list, but it is
:59:06. > :59:12.good to see him back. This kind of circuit could see ten. The claims
:59:12. > :59:18.are not alpine climbs at all. is Christian Meyer run the front
:59:18. > :59:23.from Orica Greenedge. He is currently leading the way. I wonder
:59:23. > :59:27.what their tactics are, because Matt Goss is there a nominated sprinter.
:59:27. > :59:32.Perhaps they are trying to put someone up the road, trying to get a
:59:32. > :59:36.small group clear, to put pressure on the teams of the other sprinters.
:59:36. > :59:46.If Orica Greenedge can get another rider in a break, the owners is not
:59:46. > :59:48.
:59:49. > :59:54.an empty chase for Matthew Goss. is no slouch. But he is having a
:59:54. > :00:04.crafty look underneath his right armpit to see that really, he is
:00:04. > :00:05.
:00:05. > :00:14.going nowhere with the peloton right behind him. Richmond, it all looks
:00:14. > :00:23.like a very sharp left-hander. some cobbles. Some are years. They
:00:23. > :00:31.have to take this corner wide. Hampton Court, the first sprint of
:00:31. > :00:37.this race, this happens about 20 miles in. That will be the first
:00:37. > :00:42.time we can see one of those sprints and there are some later on, the
:00:42. > :00:52.mountains at Newlands Corner, and that is after 68 kilometres. And
:00:52. > :00:53.
:00:53. > :00:58.then after Leith Hill. And one in the High Street in Kingston. This is
:00:58. > :01:02.the very first rendezvous, if you brake this into parts, and we are
:01:02. > :01:09.nowhere near that quite yet but that is the next thing on the horizon in
:01:09. > :01:19.this race as they head through Richmond Park. For those big teams
:01:19. > :01:27.
:01:27. > :01:35.in the front. An hundred and Mathew Hayman. Starting to push on. It is
:01:35. > :01:39.not just the cyclists. David Weir did lots of his training in the lead
:01:39. > :01:49.up to his gold medals in the Paralympic Games last September.
:01:49. > :01:58.
:01:58. > :02:02.That did not do him any harm! That is for sure. Pretty windy and quite
:02:02. > :02:08.open here in Richmond, so a lot of those riders will be keen to just
:02:08. > :02:12.sit and stay on their wheels. It is windy out there, someone contacted
:02:12. > :02:19.us to say it was very windy and that potentially is the very first
:02:19. > :02:29.breakaway, here? A small gap opening for the first time in the race,
:02:29. > :02:30.
:02:30. > :02:40.really. One of those Belgian riders, just starting to go clear.
:02:40. > :02:42.
:02:42. > :02:49.He will be used to this kind of racing, tough roads and weather. The
:02:49. > :02:59.peloton. Very happy to let that go. They will start to resend in a
:02:59. > :03:03.
:03:03. > :03:08.moment. -- descent. Winding their way through the park. That is Pieter
:03:08. > :03:14.Jacobs, the Belgian rider. He has made that little breakaway. And they
:03:14. > :03:20.do seem content to just let him go. Although it will be tough for him on
:03:20. > :03:25.his own if he does gain much of an advantage? This is quite a very top
:03:26. > :03:35.section of Richmond Park because we had that he sent and then it starts
:03:36. > :03:39.
:03:39. > :03:49.to climb up. -- descent. The second spot... Trying to go clear. It is
:03:49. > :03:56.
:03:56. > :04:06.quick at the moment. He has ridden and finished if you times. Just one
:04:06. > :04:08.
:04:08. > :04:12.small win in Belgium. -- a few times. As with everyone else, this
:04:12. > :04:17.is an attack that is not going anywhere at all and he realises
:04:17. > :04:21.that. He will want to get a couple of people to join him and then they
:04:21. > :04:27.can start to gain some ground but it is not going to happen once more?
:04:27. > :04:37.Strength in numbers is what you want and you have got three or four
:04:37. > :04:38.
:04:38. > :04:42.riders coming across but there are only a few bike lengths. You are
:04:42. > :04:48.watching the London Surrey Classic, part of the RideLondon weekend. This
:04:48. > :04:53.road race of 220 kilometres, featuring some of the best in the
:04:53. > :04:59.world, including the green jersey winner from the Tour of France,
:04:59. > :05:09.Peter Sagan. And David Millar. Stage winner in all of the three grand
:05:09. > :05:15.Tours. David Millar is fresh from this year 's Tour de France.
:05:15. > :05:20.struggled earlier on in the year but he is looking pretty good. Just
:05:20. > :05:30.suffering with allergies and illnesses. But they have a very good
:05:30. > :05:44.
:05:44. > :05:50.team. He was really strong in Italy? He had that second place on the day
:05:50. > :05:54.with his arms were in the air and he thought he was the winner. It was a
:05:54. > :06:03.very convincing sprint win for second place! But unfortunately the
:06:03. > :06:07.rider had gone clear. He thought that was it. To be fair to him, that
:06:07. > :06:17.day his radio was broken so he did not know that there was another
:06:17. > :06:17.
:06:17. > :06:23.rider clear. Earlier on, we saw James Cracknell, the fastest of the
:06:23. > :06:32.celebrity finishers, and map Dawson, in that yellow helmet, World Cup
:06:32. > :06:38.winner and British Lions. Delighted to complete the race. And he had the
:06:38. > :06:47.energy to speak to us afterwards. Here is your medal,
:06:47. > :06:52.congratulations! World Cup winner and you have completed that fabulous
:06:52. > :07:01.100 mile is, does it feel good? Brilliant. It was absolutely
:07:01. > :07:10.fabulous. The file -- the fans were off -- the fans were also. I have to
:07:10. > :07:15.catch my breath! One year ago, you were in the velodrome with us and I
:07:15. > :07:20.do not think we can put into words the emotion that came over you when
:07:20. > :07:24.involved in something like this? All of those fans and riders, everyone
:07:24. > :07:34.looking after everyone, there was a family out there, so the fans were
:07:34. > :07:35.
:07:35. > :07:41.brilliant, and this bicycle is a legend! This bad boy! But you have
:07:41. > :07:46.to keep turning those pedals! Yes, I was doing it to support bowel cancer
:07:46. > :07:56.for my mother. And it was really inspirational. She is my total rock.
:07:56. > :07:58.
:07:58. > :08:08.You have to take in. Leith Hill was brutal! But we had a very good team
:08:08. > :08:09.
:08:09. > :08:18.and a great charity and it was a fabulous day. Well done! Great to
:08:18. > :08:28.see what it means to complete that. Fantastic. Has he put on timber? !
:08:28. > :08:33.
:08:33. > :08:40.No wonder he was happy to get over! I am saying nothing! He has ridden
:08:40. > :08:48.100 mile study! I will take my hat off to him and anyone else today.
:08:48. > :08:58.And he has raised money for charity? That is the entire point of this,
:08:58. > :09:01.
:09:01. > :09:11.this is all about setting up what is going on in front of us. On the
:09:11. > :09:11.
:09:11. > :09:21.front, is this Matt Brammeier? current Irish champion. Two years on
:09:21. > :09:27.
:09:27. > :09:34.the trot. Trying to set things up. He is one of the... One of those GB
:09:34. > :09:39.riders coming up. He had a very big injury, he broke his leg, I think
:09:40. > :09:48.that was about five years ago. And he ready struggled and he took time
:09:48. > :09:53.to come back to become a team member. It looked like he was going
:09:53. > :10:03.clear and he was certainly hoping that one or two riders could come up
:10:03. > :10:03.
:10:03. > :10:13.to him, but unfortunately, it was this sprint. Hampton Court.Everyone
:10:13. > :10:19.else was trying to lead this out. Riders hurtling through, heading
:10:19. > :10:24.towards sorry. They will spend the lions share of the afternoon in the
:10:24. > :10:34.countryside before heading back to central London. And is a very way to
:10:34. > :10:34.
:10:34. > :10:38.go. And still no sign of the breakaway. The peloton, altogether,
:10:38. > :10:44.as they had passed Hampton Court. That was a focal point during the
:10:44. > :10:49.Olympic Games, but wonderful Wednesday afternoon with the time
:10:49. > :10:59.trial and Bradley Wiggins. Not a very bad day for team GB and
:10:59. > :11:00.
:11:00. > :11:06.Germany. Tony Martin. What a day! I was absolutely blown away by the art
:11:06. > :11:11.sphere. It was really special, you just wanted to wobble that and keep
:11:12. > :11:21.it. All of those iconic shots of Sir Bradley Wiggins sitting on that
:11:22. > :11:23.
:11:23. > :11:29.loan. It was wet in the morning. It was damp. I was hiding under a bin
:11:29. > :11:34.liner and looking less than amused. There you go. One of the more
:11:34. > :11:39.memorable days. The sun came out and it was glorious, and unfortunately
:11:39. > :11:49.it stayed all the way until the end of the BMX, otherwise we would have
:11:49. > :12:03.
:12:03. > :12:08.been drowned on those couple of days Court. And that little courtyard in
:12:08. > :12:14.front of the palace is where they had that medal ceremony. And Sir
:12:14. > :12:19.Bradley Wiggins was rather keen to leave behind and get out and enjoy
:12:19. > :12:29.himself with his fans, and he caused also to mayhem by riding through the
:12:29. > :12:38.
:12:38. > :12:48.gates and up the road. Causing mayhem? Never! Orica Greenedge.
:12:48. > :12:51.
:12:51. > :12:58.will be keen to get himself up the road and go clear. Team IG-Sigma
:12:58. > :13:04.Sport getting involved. Mostly blue with the red band around the shorts.
:13:04. > :13:07.And this leaves. They have had an excellent year, they were
:13:07. > :13:17.particularly good in the Tour this year? Dominant performance this
:13:17. > :13:23.
:13:23. > :13:29.year. Their team manager was ecstatic. He is a great man. Nigel
:13:29. > :13:38.Mansell, he is the figurehead for that team. He has helped to set that
:13:38. > :13:48.up. And the results... Jonathan Mould in first place, then Adam
:13:48. > :13:48.
:13:48. > :13:58.Yates. British riders keen to get themselves onto the leaderboard.
:13:58. > :13:59.
:13:59. > :14:04.Early on. This will be a very tough day for them. It really does suit
:14:04. > :14:14.the continental riders but that will not stop any of the domestic guys
:14:14. > :14:24.
:14:24. > :14:34.trying to get up there. Interesting squad, this team. Joker Merida. They
:14:34. > :14:39.
:14:40. > :14:44.have been very strong over the years. We have heard from James
:14:44. > :14:50.Cracknell and Matt Dawson, but Sally Gunnell, another rider from this
:14:50. > :14:58.morning, here she is. Earlier on. And looking quite fresh,
:14:58. > :15:03.considering. The former Olympic 400 metres hurdles champion. And she
:15:04. > :15:11.caught up with us after finishing her ride. Sally Gunnell, fantastic
:15:11. > :15:16.to see you crossing the line, our first female celebrity. Further than
:15:17. > :15:21.the distances you specialise in as an athlete. Was that hard? I had not
:15:21. > :15:26.gone anywhere near 100 miles and I thought, there will be tonnes of
:15:26. > :15:31.people, and I loved this, it was so well organised and everybody was
:15:31. > :15:37.fantastic, supporting me. I thought it would take the eight hours and I
:15:37. > :15:42.only took 5.5 hours! Really chuffed! It is just less taxing on the body,
:15:42. > :15:50.I think. But yes, I believe enjoyed that. We could see you and Matt
:15:50. > :15:54.Dawson, but you burned him off! You don't see anybody so I do not know
:15:54. > :16:00.what happened or where he is. We did the London Marathon this year and
:16:00. > :16:07.now this. I got the better of him! How does this compare to running the
:16:07. > :16:12.marathon? Not as painful, I can say that. I chose are still OK. But you
:16:12. > :16:17.still work hard. And I think you just get less aches and pains in
:16:17. > :16:22.your back and things. But I just love doing these massive events,
:16:22. > :16:25.ethical when you race, as another league. Lovely to be in there.
:16:25. > :16:30.Wonderful to see so many people taking part and raising money for
:16:30. > :16:40.charity. Yes, that is what this is about. Everywhere you go, everybody
:16:40. > :16:48.
:16:48. > :16:55.cheering, great causes. That is it. Thank you. The competitive juices of
:16:55. > :17:01.you athletes always take over. Tunnel vision. Quite possibly. It
:17:02. > :17:05.does show, the amount of riders out there, it really spurs you on. It
:17:05. > :17:13.would certainly be easier to go around with 20,000 other riders than
:17:13. > :17:18.on your own. If she had set out on her own, she would have struggled
:17:18. > :17:25.more. But it is great to see people like her doing that, and enjoying
:17:25. > :17:29.it, and spreading the word. As if it needs to be spread any more. It is
:17:29. > :17:39.incredible, the amount of riders. The amount of kids on bikes,
:17:39. > :17:39.
:17:39. > :17:49.families on bikes, brand-new bikes. How the trade is coping, I do not
:17:49. > :17:54.know. It was fantastic yesterday. The centre of London, so much of it
:17:54. > :17:59.closed, and 50,000 people of all ages, on all sorts of bikes,
:17:59. > :18:02.enjoying the sights and riding round the streets. Then we had the race
:18:02. > :18:07.around St James's Park in the evening, concluding with that
:18:07. > :18:11.wonderful victory for Laura Trott. I think that was the result that many
:18:11. > :18:20.of the spectators had come to see. She was the favourite, but you still
:18:20. > :18:26.have to go out there and deliver. Yes, and team work paid for her. It
:18:26. > :18:36.was a great job by Dani King. A fantastic job, into the headwind.
:18:36. > :18:37.
:18:37. > :18:44.Node 4-Giordana on the attack. Mark Christian put a big effort in for
:18:44. > :18:54.Team Raleigh. He is a former Academy rider. He is a great rider with
:18:54. > :18:55.
:18:56. > :19:02.great potential. IG-Sigma Sport chasing. There is nothing going
:19:02. > :19:06.clear, I cannot believe it. I am amazed that nobody has been allowed
:19:06. > :19:15.to form a breakaway group. They have been writing for a while now, just
:19:15. > :19:19.over an hour. Yes, and we are just going by the union flag there. It
:19:19. > :19:23.was nice and still, so maybe there is not as much wind as many of the
:19:23. > :19:33.riders would like. What Wynn Davies seems to be coming across from the
:19:33. > :19:43.
:19:43. > :19:50.left-hand shoulder. There has not been a break of any sort, really.
:19:50. > :19:56.Rapha Condor starting to move forward. They are trying to shut
:19:56. > :20:06.this move down, and possibly set another one up. As they do, it is
:20:06. > :20:09.
:20:09. > :20:19.another Node 4-Giordana rider comment through. -- coming through.
:20:19. > :20:23.
:20:23. > :20:31.They are very persistent, Node four. Five riders, six riders, seven

:20:53. > :20:58.there are only six riders on each team. How does that affect things?
:20:58. > :21:05.It is normally nine riders in races like the Tour de France. In football
:21:05. > :21:15.terms, it is like being a player down. It really must affect the
:21:15. > :21:18.
:21:18. > :21:21.team. With the sprinter, for instance, he will have five
:21:21. > :21:28.team-mates here. Normally he is used to having seven, and in the grand
:21:28. > :21:33.Tours, it team-mates. When used consider that a rider in the
:21:33. > :21:38.slipstream can save anything between 30 and 50%, depending on wind
:21:39. > :21:46.direction, and sometimes more than that, that is why the riders rely so
:21:46. > :21:49.much on their team-mates. If riders do not have that amount of
:21:49. > :21:59.team-mates, and team help, you're relying on other teams to come in

:22:19. > :22:26.4-Giordana. We have just gone through 50 kilometres. The riders
:22:26. > :22:36.will now be able to feed. That will not be much of a problem today. The

:23:21. > :23:23.
:23:23. > :23:31.open things up behind, that nothing is happening at the moment. All the
:23:31. > :23:39.riders are keen to try and keep it together. Thomas Rostollan was
:23:39. > :23:43.looking a little frustrated there, not able to get away. It is like an
:23:43. > :23:48.elastic band, the front of a bicycle race, with riders constantly pushing
:23:48. > :23:55.against it, and eventually its maps. That is what normally happens
:23:55. > :24:02.anyway. Here is one of the riders from Topsport Vlaanderen. We're into
:24:02. > :24:08.the second out of racing now. Quite often we would see it happen now. A

:24:18. > :24:21.
:24:21. > :24:28.NetApp-Endura. This could be it. Maybe at last we will get something
:24:28. > :24:36.forming. Anxiously explained, and I wondered if this might a little

:24:42. > :24:50.The elastic has finally snapped, and riders are happy to let things go.
:24:50. > :24:54.There will be a lot of people chasing and chasing. For riders like
:24:54. > :25:00.this, it is often more luck than judgement and you get yourself into
:25:00. > :25:05.the move. You can put yourself in a position where you have gone with 56
:25:05. > :25:14.moves and everyone gets brought act. The one that you leave, thinking it
:25:14. > :25:18.will be brought back, everyone sits up and it gets away. It was nice of
:25:18. > :25:23.them to form a breakaway group before we disappear away from BBC
:25:23. > :25:33.One for the time being. We will try to get the composition of that group
:25:33. > :25:41.
:25:41. > :25:51.at the first opportunity. Jonathan McEvoy at the front, pushing on
:25:51. > :25:52.
:25:52. > :25:59.hard. It is hard to see how you -- it is hard to see who these riders
:25:59. > :26:06.on in the breakaway group. I cannot see at the moment. Some of these
:26:06. > :26:10.teams have really dipped into the roster for this race. Most of the
:26:10. > :26:16.riders who read the grand Tours are not here at the RideLondon event.
:26:16. > :26:22.wonder if it is Liam Holahan from madison Genesis. If it is, I do not

:26:48. > :26:50.
:26:50. > :27:00.see him. They are disappearing under the darkness of the trees. Michael
:27:00. > :27:05.

:27:15. > :27:31.
:27:31. > :27:41.FDJ getting a rider in the breakaway. Reidar Bohlin Borgersen
:27:41. > :27:51.from joker Marie Des also in the breakaway group. -- from joker
:27:51. > :27:57.Melodie. The riders in the peloton will be happy for it to campaign. I
:27:57. > :28:02.imagine that this group will be allowed to go clear. Anything,
:28:03. > :28:10.three, three, four, five minutes even. Then the sprinters teams will
:28:10. > :28:15.start to come together, and work can gradually bring it back.

:28:28. > :28:34.we have a breakaway group. Orica Greenedge on the back, with Brett
:28:34. > :28:38.Lancaster. Brett Lancaster just settling in and the peloton are
:28:38. > :28:42.happy to let this breakaway group go. For the foreseeable future, we
:28:42. > :28:52.have our leaders in the London-Surrey 100 London-Surrey
