0:00:40 > 0:00:45Manchester's the home of British cycling. It's where I was doing my

0:00:45 > 0:00:53taster session when I was 14 or 15. I hate to think how much sweat we

0:00:53 > 0:00:58have dripped around those boards. It is always big and special and try to

0:00:58 > 0:01:04be involved and the riders put on a big show.Manchester's one of my

0:01:04 > 0:01:09favourite tracks. It has some natural dimensions.Home track with

0:01:09 > 0:01:18a home crowd... The atmosphere's going to be phenomenal.There's a

0:01:18 > 0:01:22great buzz and a great atmosphere. I'm sure everyone will be backing

0:01:22 > 0:01:33us.The voices of the cyclist who you will see in action and thanks to

0:01:33 > 0:01:38Roger Federer we have an extra half an hour of cycling action from the

0:01:38 > 0:01:43national cycling centre in Manchester. The velodrome is packed

0:01:43 > 0:01:47with keen cycling fans and they're looking ahead to more British

0:01:47 > 0:01:57success. Sir Chris Hoy is with me. This was your office.Yes is this is

0:01:57 > 0:02:03where I came day in day out. A fantastic crowd and the they are

0:02:03 > 0:02:06very knowledgeable and get behind the teams.Hopefully we will see

0:02:06 > 0:02:13some fast times. It is very warm in the velodrome, that helps the wheels

0:02:13 > 0:02:21turn faster. But what have we got to come for you this afternoon? We're

0:02:21 > 0:02:33going to show you the final of women's Keirin, Kristina Vogel is

0:02:33 > 0:02:41looking very strong. We have the team pursuits. And we will catch up

0:02:41 > 0:02:49on last night's Madison. And the men's Madison is coming up live with

0:02:49 > 0:02:56Chris Latham and Mack Stewart. And the excitement is that the Madison

0:02:56 > 0:03:02is back in the Olympics. And British cycling is so strong in endurance,

0:03:02 > 0:03:07particularly for the women, that the Madison is a huge bonus.Massive

0:03:07 > 0:03:12opportunity. It will be exciting to see which riders they pick. We have

0:03:12 > 0:03:19so many to pick.We had four of the best lining up in the team pursuit

0:03:19 > 0:03:22in the gold medal race. This is what happened.

0:03:22 > 0:03:26in the gold medal race. This is what happened. COMMENTATOR: Five seconds

0:03:26 > 0:03:32before this World Cup final. Goodness me, you could have heard a

0:03:32 > 0:03:36pin drop in those five seconds before this race got under way. Here

0:03:36 > 0:03:43now the riders all just getting on top of that gear before they settle

0:03:43 > 0:03:54into their rhythm. Katy Archibald on the front for Britain. Archibald on

0:03:54 > 0:04:01front and behind here is Evans. Neah Evans.Paul Manning looking cool,

0:04:01 > 0:04:05calm and collected. Nearly half a second in the lead in the opening

0:04:05 > 0:04:10lap, thanks to the starting effort of Katy Archibald and driving out

0:04:10 > 0:04:17further.That was a strong start made by Archibald and Great Britain

0:04:17 > 0:04:21with almost three quarters of a second advantage in the opening

0:04:21 > 0:04:26three laps.I wouldn't be surprised if we see a catch in this event.

0:04:26 > 0:04:30That is possible, the form of the British four here. Absolutely

0:04:30 > 0:04:37storming in qualification, weren't they?They're storm soing far in

0:04:37 > 0:04:41this -- storming so far in this final. Leading the way for Britain

0:04:41 > 0:04:46Elinor Barker at the moment. Down the back straight with Barker on the

0:04:46 > 0:04:57front.Now over a second ahead as they get well into the middle

0:04:57 > 0:05:02section of this race now. I'm wondering whether the fatigue will

0:05:02 > 0:05:08tell for Katy Archibald and posse Barker as they get to the latter

0:05:08 > 0:05:12stages. They have had a heavy programme. Italy holding their own,

0:05:12 > 0:05:21but they have lost a lot of ground here. The Italians having to work

0:05:21 > 0:05:27hard to remain competitive at 1.2 seconds behind.The British opening

0:05:27 > 0:05:31kilometre a second faster than they posted in the previous round. That

0:05:31 > 0:05:36bodes well. They're being shown by the coach Paul Manning that they

0:05:36 > 0:05:43have been ahead of schedule and they're now bang on it.Katy

0:05:43 > 0:05:48Archibald leads the way. Paul Manning never looks flusters,

0:05:48 > 0:05:57whether they're up or down.They're under a 4.20 time at the moment.

0:05:57 > 0:06:00Paul Manning an Olympic champion himself back in Beijing in the Team

0:06:00 > 0:06:08pursuit. The lead going up all the time. Well over 2 seconds now. Great

0:06:08 > 0:06:14Britain just need to keep rolling around the track. But this is

0:06:14 > 0:06:19impressive riding and Neah Evans moves up the track and settles on to

0:06:19 > 0:06:25the back of the line.Didn't quite get the hide and came down with a

0:06:25 > 0:06:29slight speed difference. Now she is still trying to accelerate back on

0:06:29 > 0:06:34to the wheel. That error is slightly costly. But they have room for

0:06:34 > 0:06:39mistakes, so long as she doesn't slow the team down when she hits the

0:06:39 > 0:06:46front.Elinor Barker with a good turn. As if she is riding on a rail

0:06:46 > 0:06:50around the track.Katy Archibald has picked it up and they will be

0:06:50 > 0:06:55starting to feel it. But they have got the finish in sight as they're

0:06:55 > 0:07:00into that final kilometre.Things looking good for Great Britain now.

0:07:00 > 0:07:05Emily Nelson at the front with Archibald in second and Nelson with

0:07:05 > 0:07:09the black helmet. Still the four riders for Great Britain. Italy down

0:07:09 > 0:07:14to three. They have lost one and they were almost in the same

0:07:14 > 0:07:19straight there, the Italian rider has dropped out.It is all about

0:07:19 > 0:07:25time, are they going to ease under that 4.20 time. I think they might

0:07:25 > 0:07:30do. There is some fatigue here. But there is the bell. They're going to

0:07:30 > 0:07:35take this one. It is all a question of how fast they're going to be.

0:07:35 > 0:07:39Great Britain go down the back straight for the last time with Katy

0:07:39 > 0:07:44Archibald leading. All four still riding together. It has been a

0:07:44 > 0:07:54superb ride and gold for Great Britain! For Elinor Barker, Neah

0:07:54 > 0:07:58Evans, Emily Archibald and Emily Nelson. They dished out a thrashing

0:07:58 > 0:08:02to the European champions in that final.

0:08:09 > 0:08:16A very impressive performance. Neah Evans gave up being a vet just oh a

0:08:16 > 0:08:24yearing ago. -- over a year ago. Chris, this is fantastic stuff to

0:08:24 > 0:08:30finish as a four?To finish as a four, it shows they're riding within

0:08:30 > 0:08:36themselves. That is a world class time. Elinor talked of how that was

0:08:36 > 0:08:42the quickest time outside an Lips year.--Olympic year.Let's hear

0:08:42 > 0:08:48from the team. What a ride, Katy, it has been a really hectic weekend and

0:08:48 > 0:08:51a hectic couple of months, you were nervous, because it was so

0:08:51 > 0:08:58important. How are you feeling now? A lot better. I didn't think we

0:08:58 > 0:09:03would have that margin. It changes the race and the sensation in your

0:09:03 > 0:09:09legs.Neah, a first World Cup gold, but nine months ago you were a

0:09:09 > 0:09:16full-time vet. What a change. What is it like now?I don't think you

0:09:16 > 0:09:21can really describe it. I was a vet and now I'm a cyclist. It has been a

0:09:21 > 0:09:28fast transformation. It is nice to get the gold.Part of a world class

0:09:28 > 0:09:34time, 4.16, really world class. What does this say for the women's team

0:09:34 > 0:09:40going forward? It says a lot. This is the fastest we have won outside

0:09:40 > 0:09:47the Olympics so it is a big deal. But yes very quick and we have had a

0:09:47 > 0:09:53big month of racing before this. I think it says is a lot that he with

0:09:53 > 0:09:57can push that time faster. That is the exciting to hear. The four of

0:09:57 > 0:10:01you won in the final, but this wasn't just a four-girl effort,

0:10:01 > 0:10:07there is strength and depth in the team.Yes, it is good to see, we

0:10:07 > 0:10:12have had six riders ride and we have come out on top and we should be

0:10:12 > 0:10:15happy that we did such a fast time. But there are other girls in the

0:10:15 > 0:10:20squad. We are all fighting for positions.Really great race, well

0:10:20 > 0:10:25done on the gold and especially for Katy and Elinor, you had a tough

0:10:25 > 0:10:31schedule. Well done.Thank you.It was wonderful to see the four of

0:10:31 > 0:10:36them receiving their medals. All grinning. They're not afraid of hard

0:10:36 > 0:10:42work and they're a good team? They're a tight knit squad and the

0:10:42 > 0:10:46key is to respect each other and know when it is your chance to step

0:10:46 > 0:10:51up you do it and when you don't get the chance, you stand aside and

0:10:51 > 0:10:57cheer your team mates on. It is a fantastic atmosphere. That all

0:10:57 > 0:11:04happened within the last half an hour. This is live and there is

0:11:04 > 0:11:10Kallum Skinner part of the team that won in Rio. He is going in the 1K

0:11:10 > 0:11:18time trial.

0:11:18 > 0:11:20won in Rio. He is going in the 1K time trial.

0:11:21 > 0:11:27COMMENTATOR: Four laps and the faster wins. Kallum Skinner, Olympic

0:11:27 > 0:11:33champion in the team sprint. Silver medallist in the match sprint in Rio

0:11:33 > 0:11:45as well. Four laps of the track for Kallum Skinner.Beautifully out the

0:11:45 > 0:11:50gate. Great line on the track. Gone for another big gear. Quickly into

0:11:50 > 0:12:00that air that aerodynamic position. We expected good pacing.Skinner's

0:12:00 > 0:12:04looking strong and composed and in control. Over half a second down.

0:12:04 > 0:12:09The next time check will be at the half way mark. It comes now. Is he

0:12:09 > 0:12:14gaining ground? He is still half a second outside the fastest time. The

0:12:14 > 0:12:19coach at the side of the track urging him on. He has started to

0:12:19 > 0:12:23made inroads. We said he would finish well. He is eating up the

0:12:23 > 0:12:27ground and has taken three tenths of a second back. This is when it

0:12:27 > 0:12:32hurts. This is when you really have to dig deep. The line is almost in

0:12:32 > 0:12:39sight. The roar is loud in Manchester. What is the time?

0:12:39 > 0:12:461.01.161. Not quite good enough to take the lead from Eric Engler. But

0:12:46 > 0:12:54it was good.I thought he was going to do it. Slowed a bit from that

0:12:54 > 0:13:07startling 0.1 time this morning. But still a great ride. He is in top

0:13:07 > 0:13:14company. He has acquitted himself well. Good style. Good technique.

0:13:14 > 0:13:19Just missing a bit of engine power perhaps. Could do some more work on

0:13:19 > 0:13:24position as well. I think if this was an Olympic discipline the

0:13:24 > 0:13:27British team would have put more resource into looking at those

0:13:27 > 0:13:31nuances. But this is just a great opportunity to get out there and

0:13:31 > 0:13:38race.Sips it is no -- since it is no longer an Olympic discipline, it

0:13:38 > 0:13:43was an event that Britain was strong in, you're right, the British

0:13:43 > 0:13:47cycling team don't bother. If anyone wants to ride it, great. They don't

0:13:47 > 0:13:54pay atense to it. -- attention to it.It is important to go through

0:13:54 > 0:13:59the whole process, but this team is funded with Lottery funding and that

0:13:59 > 0:14:04is is about golds and if there isn't any available, so it is not going to

0:14:04 > 0:14:12get the majority of our attention. What about Matthew Glaetzer, he is a

0:14:12 > 0:14:16team sprinter and today he has hit the set the fastest team at

0:14:16 > 0:14:24sea-level in this events.Yes and he is riding in Keirin. He is still

0:14:24 > 0:14:29puffing from the previous ride. What a performer.The only Australian

0:14:29 > 0:14:34male rider here this weekend. But he is giving everyone value for money.

0:14:34 > 0:14:41Away he goes and look at the effort from Glaetzer. It is an expensive

0:14:41 > 0:14:45start, there is a lot of body movement. But look at the heart

0:14:45 > 0:14:52going into this. He is such a rangy rider. But he folds himself double.

0:14:52 > 0:14:59He has that power. He is in position and this hardly anything of him.Now

0:14:59 > 0:15:04let's look at the time. He is outside the fastest time at the

0:15:04 > 0:15:09moment.He was tenth fastest this morning when he set that fast time.

0:15:09 > 0:15:16He paces his ride well. Look at the size of him.Look how smoothly he is

0:15:16 > 0:15:21riding. Is he going to keep it up a and go faster and faster? And he is

0:15:21 > 0:15:26just over a tenth of a second outside the fastest time. Half way

0:15:26 > 0:15:34through the final lap and suddenly he is ahead and this is stunning. As

0:15:34 > 0:15:41he comes up to line. It is the fastest time and Glaetzer just got

0:15:41 > 0:15:50better and better.

0:15:50 > 0:15:54QuestWhat a passionate start. Once he folded himself into position he

0:15:54 > 0:15:59was efficient as well. We saw the coach of the Australians, they might

0:15:59 > 0:16:03have only sent one rider, but he's doing the job for them.Who wouldn't

0:16:03 > 0:16:11want that job when you have talented riders... That was an unorthodox

0:16:11 > 0:16:22start from Glazer there.He's ridden and he's done a world-championship

0:16:22 > 0:16:29winning time. Two of them in a day. What a piece of athlete sism we have

0:16:29 > 0:16:34witnessed.It is extraordinary what we are seeing from Matthew Glaetzer

0:16:34 > 0:16:41here. Most are focussing hard on the Commonwealth Games next spring.

0:16:41 > 0:16:45Glaetzer will be part of. That he will gain all around with all these

0:16:45 > 0:16:50races he's taking part in. In terms of the bigger picture, not just this

0:16:50 > 0:16:51weekend.

0:16:52 > 0:16:56He was a late comer to this event. He didn't know he was going to ride

0:16:56 > 0:17:01as he got on a bike, round how fast he could be and he's shown it to the

0:17:01 > 0:17:05rest of the world now.Matthew Glaetzer - world class.

0:17:09 > 0:17:14Matthew Glaetzer has 15 minutes no now to recover and he will be out

0:17:14 > 0:17:18for the final and he's favourite to win gold in that as well. Chris Hoy,

0:17:18 > 0:17:28I was fascinated by that start and the gulping. He looked like a iffish

0:17:28 > 0:17:34in Blue Planet II.It a east not the most efficient way to do it with his

0:17:34 > 0:17:38head bobbing, but it is an illustration of how much he's

0:17:38 > 0:17:44putting into it. That will be as big as the top gear you'd find on any

0:17:44 > 0:17:50rode bike.Once he's in his flow it is beautiful. He's so streamline.

0:17:50 > 0:17:54His position on the bike is one of the best in the world. He gets

0:17:54 > 0:17:59incredibly long and low. And it's so hard to overstate how impressive

0:17:59 > 0:18:03that. Two rides within the same day. A fraction outside a minute. First

0:18:03 > 0:18:07ride this morning inside a minute for the first time ever at sea

0:18:07 > 0:18:14level. I take my had off to him. He's had two keirin rides in

0:18:14 > 0:18:22addition to. That I would say he's the favourite. How can he get all

0:18:22 > 0:18:25that damage you do to yourself in that short space of time. I cannot

0:18:25 > 0:18:30see him getting back to recover for this final. If he wins this keirin

0:18:30 > 0:18:38final it will be I credible. From the effort of the time trail to the

0:18:38 > 0:18:39tactics of the sprint.

0:18:44 > 0:18:51It is a best of three situation. We hardly got our Beth back before

0:18:51 > 0:18:55the women's sprint finals are under way and this the first of them. The

0:18:55 > 0:19:05first of three.

0:19:06 > 0:19:17Between the Netherlands and Russia.

0:19:18 > 0:19:24She's in this Bronze Medal match up.

0:19:29 > 0:19:33The Russian is a four-time world champion, although not in this

0:19:33 > 0:19:38particular event, in other sprinting distances.

0:19:38 > 0:19:41So evenly matched in the previous round.

0:19:41 > 0:19:45And didn't really do anything. She didn't learn from the experiences

0:19:45 > 0:19:50they were even on acceleration, even on top-end speed. She allowed

0:19:50 > 0:19:55herself to be dictated to. She has an opportunity to now try and

0:19:55 > 0:20:00rectify things and at least come away with a medal here.

0:20:00 > 0:20:03Opened one the tactics. Weaving up and down the track. Making it

0:20:03 > 0:20:08difficult to know what it is that you're going to do. Winding up the

0:20:08 > 0:20:19speed. Keeping an eye on where the opposition is.250 metres to go as

0:20:19 > 0:20:22they settle into their sprint.

0:20:24 > 0:20:28This is exactly what she tried to do before but couldn't find a way

0:20:28 > 0:20:33through then and she cannot find a way through this time either.I

0:20:33 > 0:20:38think she just balanced the same trap for the third time in a row

0:20:38 > 0:20:43where she was dictated to. She got to the front, saved something for a

0:20:43 > 0:20:47kick at the end and there was nothing she could do.That was like

0:20:47 > 0:20:51watching a rerun of the semifinal, wasn't it?I would say she could

0:20:51 > 0:20:55have done it, had the tactics been different.

0:20:55 > 0:20:59It will be interesting to hear what Chris Hoy has to say on that one

0:20:59 > 0:21:07later on. It seemed she allowed herself to be dictated to.

0:21:07 > 0:21:12Braspennincx did it just right. Kept it in place and even here she looked

0:21:12 > 0:21:18well in control. Kicked again into the final bend. Held it up on the

0:21:18 > 0:21:24shoulder.Maybe there is just some room for her to continue progressing

0:21:24 > 0:21:31in this particular event because her world titles have come in the team

0:21:31 > 0:21:37sprint and the 500 time trail. Some video analysis would be helpful, to

0:21:37 > 0:21:41go, Anna lice and try different tactics. Here is a rider with

0:21:41 > 0:21:53problems here. The rider in Dutch.

0:21:55 > 0:22:01How will she beatWatching Vogel over the weekend - fantastic form.

0:22:01 > 0:22:05More experience that you could shake a stick at. What do you do here?

0:22:05 > 0:22:10This rider has it all. The only thing you can do is try and do

0:22:10 > 0:22:14something unexpected. Just try and look for an opportunity

0:22:14 > 0:22:28to surprise to go early. To cut underneathWe have Olympic speed

0:22:28 > 0:22:37skating bronze medallist up against the world champion, Vogel. She won

0:22:37 > 0:22:41the sprint last week as well. The first of the World Cup meetings was

0:22:41 > 0:22:45held in Poland. And a reminder as well that Vogel has won two events

0:22:45 > 0:22:52here this weekend as well. One of them on her birthday on Friday. That

0:22:52 > 0:22:58was in the team sprint.There isn't much she hasn't won. Now she's at a

0:22:58 > 0:23:02phase in her career where she looks to be enjoying her racing. She's got

0:23:02 > 0:23:06nothing left to prove. She's current world champion. Just enjoying her

0:23:06 > 0:23:12racing. It is paying off as well. She's relaxed and not just not

0:23:12 > 0:23:16making many mistakes. She's dictating the pace from the back by

0:23:16 > 0:23:21accelerating and getting the height. Now van Reissen will ride from the

0:23:21 > 0:23:28front. She has to get her head down and go for it here. Alongside her

0:23:28 > 0:23:33comes Kristina Vogel. Vogel edging ahead. Van Reissen

0:23:33 > 0:23:40cannot hold her at bay and Kristina Vogel was totally in control of.

0:23:40 > 0:23:44That extremely impressive once again. 1-0 lead in this best of

0:23:44 > 0:23:50three race for gold in the women's match sprint.

0:23:50 > 0:23:53Van Reissen did well, actually. She left something in the bag to

0:23:53 > 0:23:58accelerate in the back straight. There we can see it now. Just that

0:23:58 > 0:24:09extra kick. Just ran out of horsepower, to be honest.

0:24:15 > 0:24:19Van Reissen will go away and see if she can disrupt the rhythm of

0:24:19 > 0:24:28Kristina Vogel. Kristina Vogel leading by 1-0.

0:24:38 > 0:24:44What is the art of being a great sprinter in those one on one

0:24:44 > 0:24:48situations where you have to make tactical situations? It is about

0:24:48 > 0:24:51providing the race you want to and not allowing your opponent. You have

0:24:51 > 0:24:57to ride to your strength. You have to expose their weaknesses. You

0:24:57 > 0:25:00analyse their performance. Here Vogel, she created the gap. She ran

0:25:00 > 0:25:05on with speed. And I think van Reissen rode well here. That was the

0:25:05 > 0:25:09best possible ride she could come up with. I think that was probably the

0:25:09 > 0:25:13hardest Vogel has been pushed so far this weekend. She's in a different

0:25:13 > 0:25:19class. She is the Olympic champion for a reason. And it will take

0:25:19 > 0:25:24somebody special to beat her. She's not taken her foot off the gas since

0:25:24 > 0:25:37Rio. Now Chris wanted to hear your opinion of what might have been done

0:25:37 > 0:25:40differently in the previous race. She did the same thing as she did in

0:25:40 > 0:25:44the previous ride. She made a move to get up the inside. The door was

0:25:44 > 0:25:49closed. That killed her momentum. She's noting celebrating on the

0:25:49 > 0:25:53wheel. She's stuck on the hip, going the long way around. It's playing

0:25:53 > 0:26:05into the hands of the Dutch rider. He was a hero of mine I was growing

0:26:05 > 0:26:10up. He's a coach now. A lot of your old mates here.

0:26:10 > 0:26:14They all end up with different teams. That gun going off for the

0:26:14 > 0:26:20keirin B final. We will join the main final in which we have Joe

0:26:20 > 0:26:24Truman and it will feature Matthew Glaetzer, who would have recovered

0:26:24 > 0:26:29then. He took gold.

0:26:32 > 0:26:35Calum, a bronze - many congratulations. That looked to have

0:26:35 > 0:26:40taken a lot out of you?The first kilo where they have changed the

0:26:40 > 0:26:47format to two in one day. One was enough, two is a big ask. It takes a

0:26:47 > 0:26:51lot of effort to put in a decent time.Given it is now not an Olympic

0:26:51 > 0:26:58event any more, what is the thinking behind doing it this weekend? It has

0:26:58 > 0:27:07been a good event in the past. Chris Hoy used the kilo as a way to work

0:27:07 > 0:27:12on the strength in the best way possible. It is a pathway. Plus we

0:27:12 > 0:27:15have the Commonwealth Games coming up where the kilo is an event. That

0:27:15 > 0:27:19is something we are keen to give a good shot at. There are a few more

0:27:19 > 0:27:28for it. It the is different difrmt. -- different.Given how you feel

0:27:28 > 0:27:32after that, Matthew Glaetzer took the gold. Shortly he's back in the

0:27:32 > 0:27:38keirin. What do you make of him?I trained with the guy for a month in

0:27:38 > 0:27:47Australia. He's as fast in training as in competition. To do a sub one

0:27:47 > 0:27:52minute at sea level is unbelievable. The times are getting so quick. The

0:27:52 > 0:27:57strength and depth is getting so deep. Matt's pushing the time. All

0:27:57 > 0:28:04the best to him.All the best for this season. Thanks very much.

0:28:04 > 0:28:06Callum Skinner there.

0:28:09 > 0:28:13Silver medallist in that final with Jason Kenny. With Kenny having taken

0:28:13 > 0:28:17the time out, are you expecting to see Calum sort of getting up into

0:28:17 > 0:28:23the number one position?Well, you would think so. It is tough. There

0:28:23 > 0:28:27is Owens, a number of riders who are looking to elbow their way into the

0:28:27 > 0:28:31sprint slot too. Here's the logical choice. Having won the silver in

0:28:31 > 0:28:37Rio. But it is great he's mixing it up a bit. He's staying fresh. That

0:28:37 > 0:28:41is a tough effort riding the kilo. A great performance to win a Bronze

0:28:41 > 0:28:46Medal. As you said, the Commonwealth Games are in the back of his mind to

0:28:46 > 0:28:50hopefully represent Scotland in 2018.You always found that a boost

0:28:50 > 0:28:55n the middle of an Olympic cycle, with two years to be there doing it

0:28:55 > 0:29:01for Scotland?Absolutely. The key thing is you have to keep yourself

0:29:01 > 0:29:04focussed on medium and short-term goals between the big one - the

0:29:04 > 0:29:07Olympics. For me the Commonwealth Games was a great opportunity. Keep

0:29:07 > 0:29:12it fresh. Keep focussed. You were chatting about Kristina Vogel

0:29:12 > 0:29:17earlier, it is very hard to stay at the very top all the time. If she

0:29:17 > 0:29:21has any weakness, I would say coming into the Olympics, it is getting

0:29:21 > 0:29:26steal.Seeing the end of Callum Skinner's ride here. He will feel he

0:29:26 > 0:29:33might have done better.They all went slower.

0:29:36 > 0:29:40He matched Glaetzer second and third lap and lost nine-tenths in the

0:29:40 > 0:29:44final lap. That is because the pain, that commitment in the first lap,

0:29:44 > 0:29:47invest so much energy into it, it takes away from the last lap there.

0:29:47 > 0:29:51That's the way you have to do it. Now, I am fascinated because crow

0:29:51 > 0:29:55have been through these situations and -- because you have been through

0:29:55 > 0:30:00these situations. Matthew Glaetzer would on paper be hot favourite, but

0:30:00 > 0:30:04he's had hardly any time to recover. Does that give Joe Truman, who you

0:30:04 > 0:30:08are about to see, there, does it give him a chance of a medal?Yes.

0:30:08 > 0:30:12Absolutely. I think Matthew Glaetzer, if he gets

0:30:12 > 0:30:22on the podium, it is amazing.

0:30:36 > 0:30:42There he is he can hardly sit up.It is the lactic acid. There is so many

0:30:42 > 0:30:46things you're to get over. But he will be sky high after that kilo

0:30:46 > 0:30:59ride.They have changed the rules. It is always vaguely comical this

0:30:59 > 0:31:04bit, but they have three laps to race at full pelt.

0:31:04 > 0:31:07bit, but they have three laps to race at full pelt. COMMENTATOR: We

0:31:07 > 0:31:13have an old school bike on the track. It will be there for the next

0:31:13 > 0:31:20three laps. They can't pass the front wheel of it or get more than

0:31:20 > 0:31:2910 metres away. Glaetzer is just saying, give me a minute!Matthew

0:31:29 > 0:31:39Glaetzer is just behind the motorbike. Juan Peralta is there.

0:31:39 > 0:31:44There is the Peralta. Third in line Buchli, who will probably be the

0:31:44 > 0:31:49favourite. Patched up actual his crash last night. Joe Truman is

0:31:49 > 0:32:00there. In the green the Japanese rider. They will trundle along.

0:32:00 > 0:32:03Three laps instead of two and a half. It changes the whole nature of

0:32:03 > 0:32:07the event. There is no advantage to being close to the front and

0:32:07 > 0:32:15everyone waits and there is a stall as the bike goes off and then

0:32:15 > 0:32:19everyone waits for somebody to start the race. Glaetzer not worried about

0:32:19 > 0:32:29being at the front.Glaetzer has been overtaken by Peralta and Nita.

0:32:29 > 0:32:38The Ukrainian goes to the front. On the outside is Joe Truman. Truman on

0:32:38 > 0:32:46the wheel of Buchli. The Ukrainian leads. In fifth is Glaetzer. He will

0:32:46 > 0:32:53try and force his way through. Nita around the outside. It is close on

0:32:53 > 0:33:02the line. Buchli lunging at the right moment. Mateusz Buchli may

0:33:02 > 0:33:13have got it there on the line from Vynokurov. He wins from the rider

0:33:13 > 0:33:21from Ukraine. Peralta takes third and Glaetzer almost getting on the

0:33:21 > 0:33:24podium after his extraordinary effort of winning the kilo and

0:33:24 > 0:33:32taking part in the Keirin final. He will barely have got his breath

0:33:32 > 0:33:37back. It was a better outcome for Buchli than yesterday when he ended

0:33:37 > 0:33:45up on the floor.Glaetzer is not superhuman after all. Buchli did a

0:33:45 > 0:33:50great job. The Ukrainian mistimed the lunge. But Buchli managed to

0:33:50 > 0:33:58stay on the wheels, timed it beautifully. There is the lunge and

0:33:58 > 0:34:05experience as well showed. Vynokurov almost there. You have to play the

0:34:05 > 0:34:08hand you're dealt. Everyone is around you with their own plans and

0:34:08 > 0:34:16it is a very dynamic event. The one disappointment was that the world

0:34:16 > 0:34:21champion, Awang is here. He is a popular rider, but his form wasn't

0:34:21 > 0:34:25good coming into this weekend and he didn't feature and didn't make it

0:34:25 > 0:34:32into the final. There is the result. Buchli claiming the gold ahead of

0:34:32 > 0:34:42Vynokurov. Peralta finishing third and Joe Truman bringing up the rear.

0:34:42 > 0:34:47CLARE BALDING: That was the result predicted by Chris Hoy.

0:34:47 > 0:34:49CLARE BALDING: That was the result predicted by Chris Hoy. How will

0:34:49 > 0:34:56this change now it is three laps and not two and a half.It will favour

0:34:56 > 0:35:01the stronger rider. It takes a huge amount of physical effort to control

0:35:01 > 0:35:06the race from the front. Jason rode that well. He can read a race well.

0:35:06 > 0:35:12He has the length to go for two and a half laps. He can be as calm as he

0:35:12 > 0:35:17has been in the past, which I have no doubt he will be in Tokyo, he

0:35:17 > 0:35:22could perform well.Does it make it less unpredictable, if that is not a

0:35:22 > 0:35:27double negative. In the old format, if you weren't near the front with a

0:35:27 > 0:35:31lap to go, you almost had no chance. Now there is still a chance with a

0:35:31 > 0:35:37lap to go, as we saw in the World Championships when Awang won with

0:35:37 > 0:35:42his last lap surge. But there is a bit more variety. You could say it

0:35:42 > 0:35:46is more exciting. But I liked the old format. Because there was a

0:35:46 > 0:35:50higher peak speed and a real maximum speed, it was the fastest event. Now

0:35:50 > 0:35:56there is an element of riders holding back. And you saw the effect

0:35:56 > 0:35:59on Matt Glaetzer, as Chris predicted, he couldn't recover in

0:35:59 > 0:36:08time. Terrific effort. What about Joe Truman. He got unlucky. Buchli

0:36:08 > 0:36:16gave him a nudge. Buchli is got at being patient. Buchli is laughing

0:36:16 > 0:36:21here. It is the perfect place to be. Check there is no one behind and

0:36:21 > 0:36:29line it up. It was a great ride from the Ukrainian. It was a shame for

0:36:29 > 0:36:35Joe.Buchli had a bad crash earlier in the week and he couldn't line up

0:36:35 > 0:36:39for the bronze medal race in the men's sprint. He was meant to take

0:36:39 > 0:36:44on Matt Glaetzer and couldn't even get on to the track. We're going to

0:36:44 > 0:36:58show you the ride off for gold between the two.

0:37:07 > 0:37:09COMMENTATOR: Netherlands against Poland.

0:37:15 > 0:37:21We are hearing that one rider has been disqualified in the women's

0:37:21 > 0:37:27Keirin.Our focus was on the crash. But that might have been the result

0:37:27 > 0:37:30of being earlier. There was some crowding, maybe we will see that

0:37:30 > 0:37:45later. Now this is a sprint.Let's concentrate on this sprint.

0:37:45 > 0:37:56He got the height.Rudyk chasing him down into the banking. And into the

0:37:56 > 0:38:03finishing straight and the Dutchman will hang on and win. 1-0 to the

0:38:03 > 0:38:15Netherlands. The Polish rider has to win this race, otherwise the gold

0:38:15 > 0:38:20will go to Lavreysen.Rudyk has ridden with heart and he has not

0:38:20 > 0:38:26given in. He believed he could take it and he almost did. In the

0:38:26 > 0:38:31previous round Lavreysen was just physically better and there was

0:38:31 > 0:38:40nothing that the Pole could do about it. What tactic is he going the try

0:38:40 > 0:38:45this time. To control it I think would probably be his best option.

0:38:45 > 0:38:50It turned into something of a drag race the previous race. And that

0:38:50 > 0:38:55played into Lavreysen's hands. It was his strengths that dominated. So

0:38:55 > 0:39:01he has got to be smart here. And having got the inside position in

0:39:01 > 0:39:08this round, that might help him. Will it go to a third and decisive

0:39:08 > 0:39:14ride or will bit a straight victory for the Dutchman?Well, they're not

0:39:14 > 0:39:20hanging around. Already the speed is building and you can see the way

0:39:20 > 0:39:25they're using the track. You have got height to give you better

0:39:25 > 0:39:29acceleration, but you go the further distance. If you go up to follow

0:39:29 > 0:39:34them, somebody could dive on the inside and it is very technical.

0:39:34 > 0:39:41Rudyk will go from the front here. And around the outside comes

0:39:41 > 0:39:44Lavreysen, the Dutchman and Lavreysen opens up a gap and

0:39:44 > 0:39:50disappears off and there is no sign of that gap being closed be I the

0:39:50 > 0:39:55Pollish -- by the Polish rider. That is a great race from Lavreysen. He

0:39:55 > 0:40:00takes gold in the World Cup ahead of Mateusz Rudyk and he wins in

0:40:00 > 0:40:05straight rides.Rudyk just knew that he couldn't contest it. He faded

0:40:05 > 0:40:12quickly in this competition. But Lavreysen, although it looked like a

0:40:12 > 0:40:24slow start, 10.2, they weren't hanging around.

0:40:24 > 0:40:30Lavreysen beat Hindes of Britain 2-0 and had a straight victory over

0:40:30 > 0:40:37Buchli. For the third round in a row, he wins in straight rides. And

0:40:37 > 0:40:44it was just one sprint too far for the pole pish rider. -- - Polish

0:40:44 > 0:40:46rider.

0:40:49 > 0:40:53CLARE BALDING: You heard the way he beat Hindes.

0:40:53 > 0:40:56CLARE BALDING: You heard the way he beat Hindes. All three of British

0:40:56 > 0:41:01sprinters went out at the quarter-final stage. Where are we

0:41:01 > 0:41:05with British men's sprinting now?We are in a limbo at the moment. Jason

0:41:05 > 0:41:10Kenny has been away and he is on his way back. We are not dominating. But

0:41:10 > 0:41:16we have a good squad and a young squad, a B team that came through

0:41:16 > 0:41:19and have medals at World Cups and won the European Championships. So

0:41:19 > 0:41:27they have potential. It is how you merge the old if you can call Hindes

0:41:27 > 0:41:33and Skinner old, with the new team. We have potential and a chance of

0:41:33 > 0:41:38medaling in team sprint and in individual events. But the focus is

0:41:38 > 0:41:43on Tokyo and it is how the we manage the squad. We are hoping that Jason

0:41:43 > 0:41:49will be back to his full strength in 2020.We have seen wit endurance

0:41:49 > 0:41:53cyclists taking time out. With sprintsers it is advisable, but you

0:41:53 > 0:42:07never did it. Not by choice.I had a crash in 2009. But I felt if I took

0:42:07 > 0:42:16the foot off the gas too much I couldn't get back. It can be hard to

0:42:16 > 0:42:28get back in.Among the young sprinters is Joe Truman.Talk us

0:42:28 > 0:42:35through that.Disappointed. I have been going well all day. I was on a

0:42:35 > 0:42:40good wheel and somebody came up and bossed me off the wheel. I should

0:42:40 > 0:42:43have stayed stronger. But that is my experience showing. You have been

0:42:43 > 0:42:49going well. You beat the world champion in qualifying, Awang, it

0:42:49 > 0:42:55must give you confidence that you're able to mix with the top guys?Yes,

0:42:55 > 0:43:01it is an event where you can have good and bad days. I came into it

0:43:01 > 0:43:07with an open mind and less tactics. I think it worked out quite well.

0:43:07 > 0:43:14You're only 20 we should add and you're focussed on the team sprint,

0:43:14 > 0:43:19the sprint, the Keirin, Jason Kenny could come back. Would you like to

0:43:19 > 0:43:30focus Onna?Yes, it matches my fizzology and I enjoy it.As we saw,

0:43:30 > 0:43:35you're happy to lead from the front with three laps to go.Yes it is a

0:43:35 > 0:43:39sort of endurance background with the sprint. I was lucky in that, I

0:43:39 > 0:43:42built into that without going straightaway. But I was happy with

0:43:42 > 0:43:49that ride.Thank you. What would your advice be to Joe and in fact do

0:43:49 > 0:43:53you come here and help them out with their training?I don't help them

0:43:53 > 0:43:57with their training, but I see them on a regular basis and catch up and

0:43:57 > 0:44:01I just like to enjoy that still linking myself with the team and

0:44:01 > 0:44:04hearing what they're doing. I would say for Joe the key thing is to try

0:44:04 > 0:44:10and race as much as he can and get as much experience. He got bullied

0:44:10 > 0:44:14off the wheel. If he had held his line he could have been on the

0:44:14 > 0:44:17podium. He will learn tr that. You have got to impose your presence on

0:44:17 > 0:44:22a race. That is one thing he has not done. Not all the time. He does do

0:44:22 > 0:44:26it occasionally. But he can improve on it. But physically he is

0:44:26 > 0:44:37excellent.Back to the sprinting and the bronze and gold medal race.

0:44:37 > 0:44:40Shanne Braspennincx won the first race and it is best of three.

0:44:40 > 0:44:46Shanne Braspennincx won the first race and it is best of three.

0:44:46 > 0:44:55COMMENTATOR: The last chance for Voinova, she has to win this.

0:44:55 > 0:45:00Otherwise it will go to Shanne Braspennincx. A slow crawl around

0:45:00 > 0:45:11the bottom of the track so far. The Russian rider is at the front. We

0:45:11 > 0:45:16have said it before, it is all about brinkmanship at this stage. To

0:45:16 > 0:45:25unsettle the opponents.

0:45:30 > 0:45:33The advantage is that small element of surprise. It has been reduced

0:45:33 > 0:45:39during the years. The riders have trained themselves to ride while

0:45:39 > 0:45:45looking backwards. The lines on the track tend to let them know where

0:45:45 > 0:45:55they are. It is a real skill, but it means that you really reduce that

0:45:55 > 0:45:59possibility of being surprised. Two laps to go.

0:45:59 > 0:46:06Braspennincx flicks through on the inside. The door was left ajar there

0:46:06 > 0:46:10by Vionova. Braspennincx has upped the pace here and to wind it up for

0:46:10 > 0:46:13a longer sprint. With a lap-and-a-half to go, they are

0:46:13 > 0:46:17coming around. They will take the bell this time. Vionova finds

0:46:17 > 0:46:21herself in the position she's been in both semi-finals and the race

0:46:21 > 0:46:25against Braspennincx here. This time, can she do anything about it?

0:46:25 > 0:46:31Has she got the speed to come past the Dutch woman? They come in

0:46:31 > 0:46:34towards the finish and Vionova there. I think maybe took it right

0:46:34 > 0:46:40on the line. It was a strong finish from her and it was a lunge that

0:46:40 > 0:46:44said, "I am not finished in this competition yet. Oo I I wondered if"

0:46:44 > 0:46:50it was a case of Braspennincx fading slightly, than tactics by Vionova.

0:46:50 > 0:46:54We said she needed to try something different. You need to try any form

0:46:54 > 0:47:00of tactics. This time around though, she physically had the ability there

0:47:00 > 0:47:04and she's faring better as this competition goes on. Hopefully that

0:47:04 > 0:47:08will give her some confidence to challenge for this medal. She

0:47:08 > 0:47:13certainly is still very much in the race after that round. So it will go

0:47:13 > 0:47:17to a third and deciding ride to determine who gets bronze and who

0:47:17 > 0:47:28goes home early handed. Here is the sprint again. Vionova able to

0:47:28 > 0:47:31overhaul her opponent with the finishing line approaching.

0:47:31 > 0:47:35Braspennincx didn't come out of the line with that intimidation to get

0:47:35 > 0:47:40you to go higher and take a longer route. But Vionova held her line.I

0:47:40 > 0:47:44think it will take a bit to intimidate Vionova, don't you? From

0:47:44 > 0:47:51what we have seen - a toughened season competitor she S Here's the

0:47:51 > 0:47:56champion now, Kristina Vogel against Laurine van Riessen from the

0:47:56 > 0:48:03Netherlands.I would like to see van Reissen go for a long one here. I

0:48:03 > 0:48:07can't see what else she can do to beat Vogel. She acquitted herself

0:48:07 > 0:48:12well in the previous round. She accelerated all the right times but

0:48:12 > 0:48:17out-gunned in terms of pure raw power. I think she'll need to do

0:48:17 > 0:48:28more than to ride technically well. She'll have to do extra special.

0:48:28 > 0:48:31Kristina Vogel riding, looking backwards more or less the whole

0:48:31 > 0:48:36time.Mirrored visors allow you to change your vision. You are not sure

0:48:36 > 0:48:41if they are looking at you or if you have an opportunity to take the

0:48:41 > 0:48:46surprise. All these small elements make up the tactical nature of the

0:48:46 > 0:48:51sprint. You can see the distance she's giving her now. Vogel doesn't

0:48:51 > 0:48:57like this. She'll try and stop and draw her in to keep an eye on her.

0:48:57 > 0:49:02They can do this for 30 seconds now. They can only do it twice in the

0:49:02 > 0:49:06race before the lead rider is directed by that gentleman to carry

0:49:06 > 0:49:12on. If they don't, then it is awarded to the other rider. Oh,

0:49:12 > 0:49:20Vogel now has decided to suddenly accelerate.

0:49:20 > 0:49:26So Vogel still consistently lookingback wards, keeping an eye on

0:49:26 > 0:49:32Braspennincx to make sure she knows exactly where she is. And van

0:49:32 > 0:49:36Reissen now tries to wind it up and make the challenge. Does she have

0:49:36 > 0:49:40the speed to get close enough to Kristina Vogel to put her under

0:49:40 > 0:49:44pressure now and take it to a third and final ride. If Vogel wins this

0:49:44 > 0:49:52sprint, as I think she will now, she will claim gold medal, with plenty

0:49:52 > 0:49:56of room to spare. Vogel was the class of the field.

0:49:56 > 0:50:01Head and shoulders above everybody else. The world champion wins her

0:50:01 > 0:50:05third gold medal of this weekend and her sixth in the past fortnight in

0:50:05 > 0:50:10these World Cup races. She enjoyed that one. Again somebody who has had

0:50:10 > 0:50:14so many wins. Great to see she's enjoying the racing. Laurine van

0:50:14 > 0:50:18Riessen, it looked like she was trying to do something. She was

0:50:18 > 0:50:22laying off, looking for an opportunity, trying to sort of

0:50:22 > 0:50:27encourage the German to go for a long one, so she could accelerate

0:50:27 > 0:50:31into the slipstream. Vogel such experience, said, no, I'm not having

0:50:31 > 0:50:37that. If you lay off, I'll have the advantage. I will be the one doing

0:50:37 > 0:50:42the accelerating, only by the amount so I give you no chance to

0:50:42 > 0:50:46accelerate into the slipstream.Like so many of the best sportsmen and

0:50:46 > 0:50:50women, she's so good, she makes it look easy, even though clearly it's

0:50:50 > 0:50:56not.There is a lot going on there that is not visible in terms of

0:50:56 > 0:51:03energy usage. If you can get the other rider to accelerate into the

0:51:03 > 0:51:07slipstream, you can sling shot around. Vogel could see that and she

0:51:07 > 0:51:11just accelerated when she needed to. Another great result from one of the

0:51:11 > 0:51:19big stars of world track cycling here in the UK. Kristina Vogel.

0:51:26 > 0:51:30STUDIO: She turned 27. She's so clever, isn't she?She's very smart

0:51:30 > 0:51:34there. I thought Laurine van Riessen went really well here. She rode as

0:51:34 > 0:51:39if she had the confidence and she could do it. To create that gap was

0:51:39 > 0:51:46perfect. She turned on, down the back straight. So dominant. You

0:51:46 > 0:51:49know, the only other thing that van Reissen could only potentially have

0:51:49 > 0:51:55done was attack early, try and surprise her at the start. She is a

0:51:55 > 0:52:021,000 metre specialist in speed skating. She has the endurance. That

0:52:02 > 0:52:07could have been a tactic for her. She as deservedly won the gold

0:52:07 > 0:52:14medal. There'll be a ride off for the bronze. Now we saw Matthew

0:52:14 > 0:52:19Glaetzer win the time trial. It meant he couldn't compete for a

0:52:19 > 0:52:22medal in the keirin because she was so exhausted. After all that he

0:52:22 > 0:52:24spoke to David down there.

0:52:26 > 0:52:35Riez

0:52:38 > 0:52:42You have to suck in air and just not think about the pain you are going

0:52:42 > 0:52:48through and think one more race, one more race. If it is more of a battle

0:52:48 > 0:52:51of your mental strength than physical strength at that point. It

0:52:51 > 0:52:56is not easy. You have ten minutes to recover from the kilo. That's

0:52:56 > 0:53:01nothing, in that time. It's brutal. What we do isn't easy. We are hear

0:53:01 > 0:53:06to challenge ourselves and that will be a challenge.Our commentators

0:53:06 > 0:53:12were saying that the keirin proved you are not superhuman, but in the

0:53:12 > 0:53:18time trail it was a superhuman effort. A sea level record. You have

0:53:18 > 0:53:22not done many in your life?It is an event I always thought I would do

0:53:22 > 0:53:31very well in. I like to think I've got a bit of length in me. This is

0:53:31 > 0:53:33my first international senior keirin. I have done a few back home.

0:53:33 > 0:53:39It was a big test for me. I didn't know what I could do. To go sub

0:53:39 > 0:53:43minute in the qualifying was something pretty special and shocked

0:53:43 > 0:53:48me, but it was a goal that I had for about a year's time. But to do it

0:53:48 > 0:53:56today was phenomenal.I was speaking to Callum Skinner who took the

0:53:56 > 0:54:02bronze and he said she was doing it for the Commonwealth Games. You

0:54:02 > 0:54:05sound like you'll have competition. We know who our competition will be.

0:54:05 > 0:54:13It will be a good battle. Callum will lay it down, for sure. A step

0:54:13 > 0:54:18in the right direction. Hopefully we can keep this going.A Bronze Medal,

0:54:18 > 0:54:23a gold, a sea level bronze, but not many Aussies here to celebrate with.

0:54:23 > 0:54:30How will you celebrate? It is a nice little satellite team we have going

0:54:30 > 0:54:36at these World Cups. It is something different. We normally have a

0:54:36 > 0:54:41massive pit, but just a smaller area for us. We have a good athlete

0:54:41 > 0:54:46ratio. It is good fun. Mixes it up. It is something different. We are

0:54:46 > 0:54:49really enjoying our time here. A close little group.Many

0:54:49 > 0:54:52congratulations. Thank you for your time.Thank you.

0:54:56 > 0:55:00Matthew Glaetzer looking forward to his home Commonwealth Games next

0:55:00 > 0:55:04spring. Right, Kristina Vogel - what a stunning World Cup she's had.

0:55:04 > 0:55:10Having just won gold in the women's sprint, she is now with David.

0:55:12 > 0:55:19Three golds, three events - is this the best birthday weekend for you?

0:55:19 > 0:55:29It is the third event. Event in an month. To win her a gold medal, I

0:55:29 > 0:55:34can't describe it. I'm just so happy.Our commentators were saying

0:55:34 > 0:55:42that you are unbeatable at the moment. What is your secret?Maybe,

0:55:42 > 0:55:52when I say it now, maybe the others may say the same - I feel good, my

0:55:52 > 0:55:57body at the moment. It is to see how fast I can be. At the moment I just

0:55:57 > 0:56:05enjoy it. See what can be done. Now the challenge is to keep your

0:56:05 > 0:56:09consistency going to the World Championships? Your challenge to

0:56:09 > 0:56:14keep going at the same level for the championships? It is quite hard

0:56:14 > 0:56:20because all the girls, when I came to a tournament, came to the

0:56:20 > 0:56:25competition, and especially myself, it is hard to be not countable on

0:56:25 > 0:56:31sprint and to try and, all the time, try some new things and yes, I think

0:56:31 > 0:56:38that's a hard thing to keep at.I know for you the work is over, you

0:56:38 > 0:56:46can finally have a birthday party. Finally. You told me that you bring

0:56:46 > 0:56:51me a list.I will bring it to you after this interview.

0:56:54 > 0:57:03What did she say? A list of pops?A list of pubs. She wants to go to the

0:57:03 > 0:57:12bar.Have a good old weekend. She's quite fun, Kristina Vogel. She kept

0:57:12 > 0:57:18her language. Which doesn't always happen.

0:57:20 > 0:57:27Ed Clancy - I am not alone in thinking he's the most underrated

0:57:27 > 0:57:30triple medal yist in sporting history. He's the only man in the

0:57:30 > 0:57:34world to have won three gold medals in the world in the team pursuit.

0:57:34 > 0:57:40He's had a break. He's back here in Manchester. He's part of the team

0:57:40 > 0:57:46pursuit and been saying what he loves about it all.

0:57:51 > 0:57:56You have been in this team for years - what keeps calling you back?I

0:57:56 > 0:58:02guess just my love of team pursuit. I love the team work. When you get

0:58:02 > 0:58:07to the big day and put it together at a World Championship or world

0:58:07 > 0:58:11games and you are on the podium with three of your best mates, it is hard

0:58:11 > 0:58:17to top that. You had a while off after Rio - what have you been up

0:58:17 > 0:58:23to?Stuck into the road. It's really been all about, not taking a

0:58:23 > 0:58:28physical rest, a meantal rest from the track. How important was the

0:58:28 > 0:58:32time off after Rio? You had your first holiday in eight years. That

0:58:32 > 0:58:35is the first time I have travelled abroad for eight years for a proper

0:58:35 > 0:58:42holiday. To be honest, I am not all that keen on holidays. After 2008

0:58:42 > 0:58:46and 2012 I had advice to go and do something else, go and enjoy your

0:58:46 > 0:58:52road riding. That was great advice. It was from experienced people,

0:58:52 > 0:58:55which I choose to ignore, really. I regretted that. I don't like going

0:58:55 > 0:58:59away from the track. I always have this, not fear, but I don't want to

0:58:59 > 0:59:03go too far from it, even if it is like a development team and we work

0:59:03 > 0:59:07on the juniors and 23s, I want to be around that and be part of the next

0:59:07 > 0:59:12Olympic cycle. I think it has done me good.Difficult to compare a team

0:59:12 > 0:59:17that's lost sir Bradley Wiggins and all his achievements. This team -

0:59:17 > 0:59:21how good can this one be?It is good enough to win the Olympics,

0:59:21 > 0:59:27ultimately. It is difficult replacing guys, not just Brad, but

0:59:27 > 0:59:32others who we've had over the years. I am also aware that we have won

0:59:32 > 0:59:38without all of those guys as well. So, it can be done, but for sure

0:59:38 > 0:59:41there'll be work to do.You are the glue between all of these teams as

0:59:41 > 0:59:46well.I wasn't going to say it, but...You have not lost your

0:59:46 > 0:59:50passion for it. I can tell that.I am more keen than ever. In terms of

0:59:50 > 0:59:57how much I enjoy it, I am happy now doing what I am doing. I feel more

0:59:57 > 1:00:02comfortable with what I'm doing with my cycling career now than I ever

1:00:02 > 1:00:07had. It will be coming to an end, the sad thing is, in three years.

1:00:07 > 1:00:11This is where Tokyo starts now. Whatever happens this weekend we

1:00:11 > 1:00:14will assess the situation and go from there.

1:00:17 > 1:00:22I love the fact he is going to get to show his personality as he moves

1:00:22 > 1:00:28into the senior position in the team.I don't think he wants to be

1:00:28 > 1:00:33the focus. H's team player. And he is one of the people you will never

1:00:33 > 1:00:38hear a bad word about. His heart and soul is in the team. He would do

1:00:38 > 1:00:43anything for the boys. It is great he has what break. He has not been

1:00:43 > 1:00:48away with his feet up.He said I'm not keen on holidays. He has been

1:00:48 > 1:00:54racing on the road and been on five and six hour rides each day. It is a

1:00:54 > 1:00:58mental break to be away from the track. But he is back and I think

1:00:58 > 1:01:04that is the most relaxed I have seen him in any interview. We are going

1:01:04 > 1:01:09to see the men's team pursuit. But they only made it through the first

1:01:09 > 1:01:14round against France. They left it late.Yes it was tight. As we see,

1:01:14 > 1:01:19coming into the final kilo, they had come from behind. Nothing in it at

1:01:19 > 1:01:26all. And GB take the lead finally. But it was touch and go. But

1:01:26 > 1:01:30anything that goes under, any ride that goes under four minutes,

1:01:30 > 1:01:43they're pushing hard. 3.55 here. Relief, but every race, they would

1:01:43 > 1:01:52be pushed all the way. Zbh they are missing Andy Tennent. Yes, they were

1:01:52 > 1:01:57in the middle of a ride and he fell. He will be back soon. But like the

1:01:57 > 1:02:03women's squad, they have huge strength in-depth. But Andy will be

1:02:03 > 1:02:09looking to get back. The men's Madison. That is the massive breeze

1:02:09 > 1:02:14that took Chris's papers, we will be joining that. But in the men's team

1:02:14 > 1:02:21pursuit, there was a fantastic story of British cyclists who are not

1:02:21 > 1:02:25under the British cycling umbrella, they were racing as amateurs and got

1:02:25 > 1:02:32into the bronze made race.Yes it was once usual to have a small team

1:02:32 > 1:02:39doing it on your own terms, but now it is unheard of. And to have won

1:02:39 > 1:02:44the national Championships and progressed to World Cup and make it

1:02:44 > 1:02:50through, we saw Jonathan Wale in the kilo final. It is a real fairy tale.

1:02:50 > 1:02:54They have not just been plucky underdogs, they have thought about

1:02:54 > 1:02:58the event and played to their strengths. You will see some of the

1:02:58 > 1:03:04other countries looking at how they approached the team pursuit and it

1:03:04 > 1:03:09they change they work it. If you have a strong kilo rider, use him in

1:03:09 > 1:03:17the early part and the endurance guys at the back. That is the

1:03:17 > 1:03:21background to Team KGF. One is a student. You will see them race

1:03:21 > 1:03:29before we see Great Britain. Here is Simon Brotherton and Chris Boardman.

1:03:29 > 1:03:29before we see Great Britain. Here is Simon Brotherton and Chris Boardman.

1:03:35 > 1:03:40The European champions France, in the white, in the finishing straight

1:03:40 > 1:03:48and down the back straight the British national champions, KGF.A

1:03:48 > 1:04:00solid start. Just nosing in front of France. Again the third place

1:04:00 > 1:04:07changed strategy, beautifully done. The French have made a late change.

1:04:07 > 1:04:13Denis has come in at the last moment. Still Team KGF in front.

1:04:13 > 1:04:23Still inside the opening kilometre here. It is very tight.KGF are

1:04:23 > 1:04:28employing the same strategy. They're nearly half a second in front of the

1:04:28 > 1:04:35French at the moment.It is a big turn by Jonathan Wale.The same

1:04:35 > 1:04:39strategy they employed yesterday to qualify. And it seems to be work

1:04:39 > 1:04:45well. 0.6 of a second ahead and three rider. They will have to do

1:04:45 > 1:04:50ten laps on their own. But they haven't had to do a tap until this

1:04:50 > 1:05:00point.Look at Wale, almost riding as if he is on a rail. He has

1:05:00 > 1:05:09charlatan field behind him - Charlie Tanfield behind him.He is still in

1:05:09 > 1:05:14front. He has bailed in the straight and they're down to three with a

1:05:14 > 1:05:21half a second advantage.Tanfield takes up the running. Tipper is on

1:05:21 > 1:05:29his wheel, Jacob tipper. For France Tomas the double world champion

1:05:29 > 1:05:32leading the way for the European team pursuit champions. But they

1:05:32 > 1:05:37have got work to do.Yes, he may have hung on too long, because they

1:05:37 > 1:05:41were chomping at the bit to get going. There is only three of them.

1:05:41 > 1:05:47This is where France have the advantage. They have a full team and

1:05:47 > 1:05:51they're tightly knitted and riding well together. Half a second in it.

1:05:51 > 1:05:57Half a second in it. It will be fascinating. As this race builds.

1:05:57 > 1:06:04Can the three men of Team KGF, the British champion, hold off France.

1:06:04 > 1:06:08They have extended their lead a bit. Yes, the danger in the team here is

1:06:08 > 1:06:12when you have a strength and weakness together and you have got

1:06:12 > 1:06:18to make sure the strong man looks after the others. They can't afford

1:06:18 > 1:06:24to make a mistake. France too down to three. But France are a second in

1:06:24 > 1:06:33arrears.Tomas takes up the running. Let's look at the gap. It is up

1:06:33 > 1:06:38again. It is almost a second. And the crowd are getting into this here

1:06:38 > 1:06:44in Manchester as well. Both teams looking tired, but the French are

1:06:44 > 1:06:48starting to fracture. Some small gaps appearing. That says the rider

1:06:48 > 1:06:54in third place, when he goes through again he will slow them down. It is

1:06:54 > 1:07:03close.Bigham, Wale and Tanfield. The French get their nose in front.

1:07:03 > 1:07:09They're back in front. 0.2 of a second. Two big laps in the closing

1:07:09 > 1:07:17stages. What have these riders got left? There is a split appearing in

1:07:17 > 1:07:24Team KGF and the French are moving ahead. It is unravelling for Team

1:07:24 > 1:07:29KGF in the final two laps. Here they come. Up to the line and the

1:07:29 > 1:07:39European champions, France, take it 3.57.298. Team KGF just pipped.

1:07:44 > 1:07:52Away we go, World Cup gold on the line in Manchester. Steven Burke for

1:07:52 > 1:07:56Great Britain leads out of starting gate and tries to get on top of that

1:07:56 > 1:08:00gear as they settle down to the back of the far straight. Into the

1:08:00 > 1:08:07finishing straight on this opening lap of 16. And Great Britain leading

1:08:07 > 1:08:13by almost four tenths of a second. Even Dyer, the national coach. Not

1:08:13 > 1:08:16the tidiest of starts, but they got themselves nicely organised within

1:08:16 > 1:08:21half a lap. Plenty of home support here. They're being told they're

1:08:21 > 1:08:27well up on schedule at the moment. Shallow changes by the Danes. You

1:08:27 > 1:08:31will pay for that later if you don't use all the track for your

1:08:31 > 1:08:41advantage.Pedersen leading the way. The lead is two tenths of a second.

1:08:41 > 1:08:45Ed Clancy, great to see him back up and rung. This is the first time he

1:08:45 > 1:08:51has been on the track since the Rio games. That is wise to take a break.

1:08:51 > 1:08:57He was a gold medallist in 08 in Beijing, as well as London and Rio.

1:08:57 > 1:09:03A big turn on the the front. A nice change. Plenty of height to drive

1:09:03 > 1:09:09down. You can tell when they're getting tired and they don't want go

1:09:09 > 1:09:17too high. But you lose your speed and have to reaccelerate.Oliver

1:09:17 > 1:09:22Wood was on front, now it is Steven Burke. The Danes down to three

1:09:22 > 1:09:27already. Denmark losing a rider. It was a rider who came in at the last

1:09:27 > 1:09:33moment. They did make a very late change. But he didn't stay up in the

1:09:33 > 1:09:38line up.That could be it for them with nine laps remaining. That is a

1:09:38 > 1:09:48long way to go. The British team are up against it. Britain setting a

1:09:48 > 1:09:52blistering pace. Still close. Just one second in it. With three men I

1:09:52 > 1:10:00think they will struggle.Denmark being led by Pedersen. Britain

1:10:00 > 1:10:08leading the way by over a second here now. Still looking strong.

1:10:08 > 1:10:14Still together, led by Ed Clancy. He settles in on the back of the line

1:10:14 > 1:10:19again and the gap is going up. It is 1.5 seconds now. That advantage is

1:10:19 > 1:10:24numbers is a big thing. They're being shown they're bag on schedule.

1:10:24 > 1:10:28They can afford to be conservative and to be careful, don't take any

1:10:28 > 1:10:32risks. Let them have to do the fighting to get back on terms. There

1:10:32 > 1:10:44is a lot to do. It is over two seconds. It is not going to happen

1:10:44 > 1:10:48for Denmark. It is over 3 seconds and Britain were in the same

1:10:48 > 1:10:56straight for a moment. Emadi powers forward. They come down back the

1:10:56 > 1:11:00commentary position and Emadi leads the way, handing over to Ed Clancy.

1:11:00 > 1:11:08Oliver Wood is still there. Steven Burke has dropped out.Clancy

1:11:08 > 1:11:11sometimes struggles towards the end of the race, but he is looking on

1:11:11 > 1:11:18good form. They're down to three. Changes nicely adapted. But he has

1:11:18 > 1:11:31got to get on the wheel.Olly wood on the front. Clancy is hanging on.

1:11:31 > 1:11:35They're chasing down the Danes. They won't catch them, but they're going

1:11:35 > 1:11:40to win by a country mile. They come to the line and great stuff from

1:11:40 > 1:11:45Great Britain. They take gold in Manchester in this World Cup

1:11:45 > 1:11:51meeting. Gold for Britain and silver for Denmark.A very quick time as

1:11:51 > 1:11:57well. They will be pleased with that. Not just if win, but the way

1:11:57 > 1:12:03they rode that and managed their resources. The coach, Ian Dyer,

1:12:03 > 1:12:07happy with that one. What a marvellous place to do it, in fronts

1:12:07 > 1:12:15of a home crowd. And an excellent time. Britain were in control of

1:12:15 > 1:12:22that gold medal ride from the moment they left the gate. The expression

1:12:22 > 1:12:30on their Faiths -- faces as nay they get out of the gate. They drop into

1:12:30 > 1:12:36the bends and it helps the ride flow. Nicely done. To see your

1:12:36 > 1:12:41opponent as well in the final stages, just means you can actually

1:12:41 > 1:12:48enjoy the race.Well done, gold and a home World Cup. Steven it has been

1:12:48 > 1:12:54a frustrating time after Rio for the team, a crash at the Euros. How good

1:12:54 > 1:13:01is it to get back?It is not ideal, but we have bounced back in our home

1:13:01 > 1:13:10World Cup. We did well to go quicker than last night. It was well

1:13:10 > 1:13:15executed and as a team we were brilliant. The first step towards

1:13:15 > 1:13:21the worlds. It was well executed. You almost caught the Danish team.

1:13:21 > 1:13:26If there was another couple of laps you would have stopped early. What

1:13:26 > 1:13:32were the tactics, you seemed to go out hard?To be fair, like you don't

1:13:32 > 1:13:36pay that much attention to the other team on the track, apart from the

1:13:36 > 1:13:43last couple of K. Went out hard, but that was the plan. In the semi we

1:13:43 > 1:13:47almost got snuck up on by the French, so you can't base your ride

1:13:47 > 1:13:52on what you were expecting. We did one thing and it worked out.Ed, a

1:13:52 > 1:13:57happy return for you. What can we read into this gold medal?Good

1:13:57 > 1:14:04things, but I like to think this is just the start and to put it in

1:14:04 > 1:14:11context, last month I did 80 hours on a row bike. As did the boys. The

1:14:11 > 1:14:16days of winning World Championships in a 55 are well gone. The crowd was

1:14:16 > 1:14:22awesome. But this is the starting point. If we are can do this time

1:14:22 > 1:14:28with that amount of work, we won't see an invest on that until later in

1:14:28 > 1:14:35the season. If it is the start, where is the end point?First things

1:14:35 > 1:14:38first, we have the World Championships. A lot of us aren't

1:14:38 > 1:14:45doing a serious race until then, so... I like to think this is the

1:14:45 > 1:14:50starting point for Tokyo and hopefully a nice stepping stone.

1:14:50 > 1:14:58Ollie is the younger of the quartet, how much dud you want to get a cold.

1:14:58 > 1:15:02We train here and had a sniff of it last year in Glasgow. That was nice.

1:15:02 > 1:15:07Being closer to home is strange, it is strange being close to home and

1:15:07 > 1:15:12in front of home crowd is brilliant. It couldn't get any better. A World

1:15:12 > 1:15:18Cup win in front of a home crowd. Well done.

1:15:18 > 1:15:21Cup win in front of a home crowd. Well done.CLARE BALDING: How good a

1:15:21 > 1:15:24performance was that?It was excellent. It is where they have to

1:15:24 > 1:15:30be. It gave them a confidence boovs. They're very happy about that and

1:15:30 > 1:15:34Ed, his face, shows you everything you need to know. They're confident

1:15:34 > 1:15:45and they will be a team to watch out for.

1:15:45 > 1:15:57Would he come back before Tokyo, do you think? Unlikely. Geraint Thomas

1:15:57 > 1:16:01came back for London. Up to their team will they will be willing to

1:16:01 > 1:16:07let them go. It is a big commitment. It is months and months of technical

1:16:07 > 1:16:18preparation, particularly for a team event. Whilst we have great riders

1:16:18 > 1:16:22like, I wouldn't say we don't need them but we have the talent and

1:16:22 > 1:16:25there are young riders waiting to come N they are building a team

1:16:25 > 1:16:28without these people. If they choose to come back in, then it would be

1:16:28 > 1:16:34great. That is important. If you are a strong cycling nation, it is not

1:16:34 > 1:16:38about just relying on three or four names.Exactly. That can be the risk

1:16:38 > 1:16:42in certain countries that does happen. And yes, it's, particularly

1:16:42 > 1:16:46when it was just one rider per nation, per event, that was the

1:16:46 > 1:16:58problem, youed what one big star and you could sit back and if we had a

1:16:58 > 1:17:05Pendleton. You have to have more than one person because of injury.

1:17:05 > 1:17:08Full credit to the riders for keeping focus and being able to

1:17:08 > 1:17:14perform at the top of this level, given thor moil behind the scenes.

1:17:14 > 1:17:23With that in mind it was interesting that a familiar face, Shane Sutton,

1:17:23 > 1:17:29allegations of bullying and actual remarks, was it eight out of the

1:17:29 > 1:17:33nine charges against him for discriminatory language, he was

1:17:33 > 1:17:37cleared of that. He was here in charge of the Chinese team and spoke

1:17:37 > 1:17:39with David.

1:17:41 > 1:17:45Everybody knows the circumstance in which you left British cycling. A

1:17:45 > 1:17:51year-and-a-half on what are your reflections?I don't sit down and

1:17:51 > 1:17:56reflect on it. What has come out of all that and you know, there are

1:17:56 > 1:18:00just people probably trying to build their own empire, I guess. They make

1:18:00 > 1:18:04decisions. Until you are in the pit and you know, you are in there and

1:18:04 > 1:18:09know what is going on, then I don't think you really make decisions that

1:18:09 > 1:18:14they have made in the review process and everything else. It is not what

1:18:14 > 1:18:19was perceived here. The reception shows that. The same for Dave - one

1:18:19 > 1:18:24of the great leaders in world sport, yet comes under criticism. I think

1:18:24 > 1:18:30it is totally unjustified. We cannot think about that. I'm having fun.

1:18:30 > 1:18:34And I, you know, I just want to continue to enjoy the journey now in

1:18:34 > 1:18:41China. InIn terms of the way you left, are there any regrets? You

1:18:41 > 1:18:45left at a time when Britain were gearing up for the Olympics - you

1:18:45 > 1:18:48had been a big part of that. There were nine allegations levelled at

1:18:48 > 1:18:53you. One was found by British cycling by the independent report to

1:18:53 > 1:18:57have been proven, but you left before they came out - any regrets

1:18:57 > 1:19:01about any of that?No. People don't know the circumstances where I used

1:19:01 > 1:19:06that comment. It was used in just a general comment, you know, a couple

1:19:06 > 1:19:11of people playing up on the day being, what I have said publically

1:19:11 > 1:19:16on the day. That is not going up to an athlete and saying you are a

1:19:16 > 1:19:20whatever. That wasn't the case. I think people need to know that.

1:19:20 > 1:19:25But you know, at the end of the day, I can sleep of a night. I have no

1:19:25 > 1:19:30problem with it all. People criticised, you know, me from

1:19:30 > 1:19:34a distance and everything else but when you get into the nitty-gritty

1:19:34 > 1:19:38of the day-to-day, I was pretty much loved by the staff. I treated them

1:19:38 > 1:19:42well and that has shown hooer in the reception I've had. It's nice to

1:19:42 > 1:19:51hear them say you have been missed. Saying how touched he's been from

1:19:51 > 1:19:57the reception interest the coaching staff and the British team as a

1:19:57 > 1:19:57whole.

1:20:00 > 1:20:04I think he was probably nervous coming back here. It must be odd for

1:20:04 > 1:20:08him arriving a different team. But I think, having seen him, he's

1:20:08 > 1:20:13relaxed now. And really enjoyed the weekend. It is a new challenge for

1:20:13 > 1:20:17him looking a after the Chinese team. It has been a difficult time

1:20:17 > 1:20:23for the team for him and everyone involved. You move on. Life moves

1:20:23 > 1:20:28on.Quite often we see coaches switching from one country to

1:20:28 > 1:20:34another.If you look at the accepter, the place is littered with

1:20:34 > 1:20:36ex-riders from different nations, now coaching different nations. So

1:20:36 > 1:20:41you have, like I said earlier on Bill, ex-german sprinter working

1:20:41 > 1:20:47with the Dutch. You have my old team-mate working the Aussies. There

1:20:47 > 1:20:50is all those ideas and knowledges and that is what raises the standard

1:20:50 > 1:20:55across the board or the world. We've had more disruption - the chairman

1:20:55 > 1:20:59of British Cycling has left. The endurance coach has left. Can you

1:20:59 > 1:21:04see a point at which it will settle down?I think so. What is happening

1:21:04 > 1:21:08is British Cycling are doing all they can, within their powers to

1:21:08 > 1:21:12find, steady the boat, plan for their future, add all the issues

1:21:12 > 1:21:16raised. I think they have done a good job in that respect, to be

1:21:16 > 1:21:20honest. It is hard to see what else they can do and now it is about

1:21:20 > 1:21:23looking forward, not looking backwards, not rehashing old

1:21:23 > 1:21:43problems. But Jilly Harrington is doing a great job.Every rider we

1:21:43 > 1:21:46heard interviewed they sound enthusiastic, they want to do their

1:21:46 > 1:21:51best.Absolutely. The morale is good. When you hear things said

1:21:51 > 1:21:54about the federation, it is hard when you've had a positive

1:21:54 > 1:21:59experience and you have seen people work so hard as a team together. And

1:21:59 > 1:22:03the media image is different to the reality to a lot of people. I think

1:22:03 > 1:22:08it will be good for people to see what goes on behind closed doors, to

1:22:08 > 1:22:12see how the team work together. In time we will see how it all pans

1:22:12 > 1:22:18out.Also, I suppose it will be a relief when the camera shifts back

1:22:18 > 1:22:26on to the riders. And the likes of Katie Archibald - the youngsters

1:22:26 > 1:22:29coming through, they have a chance to be written and spoken about them.

1:22:29 > 1:22:33Absolutely. That is what we are seeing this weekend. So many great

1:22:33 > 1:22:41performances. Of course it has been a rocky week. I wouldn't say an

1:22:41 > 1:22:45excellent weekend - a solid weekend for the British team so far. It is

1:22:45 > 1:22:50where they need to be.Well the man's Madison is in progress behind

1:22:50 > 1:22:55us. It is 120 laps in total, with sprints. Every ten laps they pick up

1:22:55 > 1:22:59points. They there are points on offer if they can lap the whole

1:22:59 > 1:23:05team. It is the push me-pull me event, where they sling shot each

1:23:05 > 1:23:08other into action. Representing Great Britain is Mark Stewart and

1:23:08 > 1:23:12Chris Latham. Let's see how they are getting on. Here's Simon.

1:23:14 > 1:23:19THE COMMENTATOR: Poland are at the front of the race at the moment. The

1:23:19 > 1:23:24British duo are faring well. There are the results. Poland, who have

1:23:24 > 1:23:24been out

1:23:24 > 1:23:27are the results. Poland, who have been out for half a lap Rain for

1:23:27 > 1:23:30longer, they have splintered the whole of this field here. Here is

1:23:30 > 1:23:36the situation. Great Britain in the Bronze Medal position at the moment,

1:23:36 > 1:23:40just ahead of the Poles. Poland have scoped up the points.I was going to

1:23:40 > 1:23:44say they are trapped now they have caught back markers and the pace is

1:23:44 > 1:23:49with the front group. It doesn't matter now. They are considered to

1:23:49 > 1:23:55be at the front. They are catching up. I have seen an easy from the

1:23:55 > 1:23:58front group of favourites. The Poles will make the junction, I think, and

1:23:58 > 1:24:02take that 20 points which will catapult them into gold medal

1:24:02 > 1:24:07position.The Poles are a quarter of a lap behind the nearest

1:24:07 > 1:24:11challengers. There is a group of the big favourites, where you have got

1:24:11 > 1:24:18the world champions there. You have got Spain, the Net inner lands - New

1:24:18 > 1:24:20Zealand, France, Denmark, Belgium, Great Britain, Switzerland. They are

1:24:20 > 1:24:24all together. Just about to join them on the back of that group, that

1:24:24 > 1:24:29is why the crowd have started to applaud because they can sense those

1:24:29 > 1:24:32who are following this immensely complicated race that actually

1:24:32 > 1:24:37Poland are almost drawing level and they will gain that lap on the rest

1:24:37 > 1:24:46of the field. The big losers at the point are the British pair on

1:24:46 > 1:24:50bronze. There we go, we get an update on points, they have been

1:24:50 > 1:24:57pushed down to fourth. It is Belgium at the front of the race - the world

1:24:57 > 1:25:01champions are behind them from France.

1:25:01 > 1:25:05Denmark and then I think Spain were there as well. Great Britain just

1:25:05 > 1:25:09out of the points that time. That will get really, really important.

1:25:09 > 1:25:13Just 30 laps remaining in this race now. And of course we have to

1:25:13 > 1:25:17remember that the final sprint is double points. Ten points. So

1:25:17 > 1:25:24absolutely critical and it is so, so close at the top. Poland, 32. They

1:25:24 > 1:25:28have a reasonable front, 23. Denmark back in 17. So it is still all to

1:25:28 > 1:25:34play for here.A minor lull in the racing, relatively speaking at this

1:25:34 > 1:25:38moment in time. Just for a lap or two. You can see they start to bunch

1:25:38 > 1:25:44up a little bit on the track. They are not going full ball. This has

1:25:44 > 1:25:54been an intense race.Three sprints remaining, so that's 20 points.We

1:25:54 > 1:26:01have Great Britain at the front of the race at the moment. Britain with

1:26:01 > 1:26:05Mark Stewart and Chris Latham, the world scratch race, bronze

1:26:05 > 1:26:08medallist. That was in Hong Kong earlier this year. They have battled

1:26:08 > 1:26:11away. They have never been far from the front. They helped to animate

1:26:11 > 1:26:17this race. The attack from Poland has changed the reflection of

1:26:17 > 1:26:21everything.Denmark have gone on the attack. The Brits went after it.

1:26:21 > 1:26:25They realise that is the team currently in third position in

1:26:25 > 1:26:28Bronze Medal position. And the British team, if they want to get on

1:26:28 > 1:26:31the podium cannot let that go. It is a strong move, too. They have

1:26:31 > 1:26:35quarter of a lap.At the moment they'll have to hope other people

1:26:35 > 1:26:45bring it back. It is not the British duo doing that.

1:26:48 > 1:26:53Larsson hands over to his team-mate. The Danish pairing were fourth in

1:26:53 > 1:26:59the World Championship this year. . The responsibility should fall to

1:26:59 > 1:27:05Poland, France and Denmark, sorry Poland and France. They will be the

1:27:05 > 1:27:11big losers. It is a concerted attack here. If they can cop sisantly chase

1:27:11 > 1:27:14behind they will gain a lap too. They have enough time with 22 laps

1:27:14 > 1:27:19remaining. That will put them into the lead. Denmark are looking quite

1:27:19 > 1:27:32good here. The chase of the Danes is led by the bronze medallist this

1:27:32 > 1:27:34year.

1:27:36 > 1:27:47The rain bow jersey of the world champion. Tomas going ahead of the

1:27:47 > 1:27:51Dutchman, nestles behind. They know it is not just about that this

1:27:51 > 1:28:00spript. When we have gone for this sprint... They will get back on

1:28:00 > 1:28:07terms but they are using energy, catching up all a the time. It has

1:28:07 > 1:28:10to neutralise possibly the Danish attack. The Dane is over the finish

1:28:10 > 1:28:15line. The three riders be behind there. There is a little gap, the

1:28:15 > 1:28:18same sort of distance going back to Great Britain, but the British

1:28:18 > 1:28:23pairing are lucky because the Spanish riders are helping to close

1:28:23 > 1:28:27the gap themselves. I think they are really working

1:28:27 > 1:28:30hard, looking at the body language now.

1:28:30 > 1:28:32The British team, they are doing everything they can. They have got

1:28:32 > 1:28:36back on terms. The Danes have got a lead of about 30 metres. Do you

1:28:36 > 1:28:41know, I think that will be enough. I think if the heart goes out of the

1:28:41 > 1:28:45chase when you look around and you see you are towing ten riders with

1:28:45 > 1:28:51you. 16 laps to go. They have that massive sprint at the end. That will

1:28:51 > 1:28:57be all important. So Denmark on the front of the race at the moment.

1:28:57 > 1:28:59Poland leading overall, mainly thanks to that lap they gained

1:28:59 > 1:29:04earlier. It will change if Denmark were able to gain a lap.If they

1:29:04 > 1:29:09don't, I think, if I have it right, they cannot overtake Poland. They

1:29:09 > 1:29:13will get into silver medal position. If they keep scoring the points,

1:29:13 > 1:29:22they run out of points. And Denmark make the changeover now.

1:29:26 > 1:29:32Has a look behind, he is chased by an Austrian rider.

1:29:32 > 1:29:36It is Spain that's going to close that gap. A real concerted attack.

1:29:36 > 1:29:41The French have gone after them. The race is blown to pieces. It is those

1:29:41 > 1:29:47three teams that will contest the last two sprints here. They love a

1:29:47 > 1:29:54big attack the Spanish duo. They have not scored any points so far

1:29:54 > 1:30:01today. A sustained effort here over the last dozen laps or so.

1:30:08 > 1:30:12Behind the Danes certainly looking for silver medal, unless they can

1:30:12 > 1:30:16make the junction and then they will be in gold position. Behind them,

1:30:16 > 1:30:21the French pair are the real winners here.Denmark, Spain and France the

1:30:21 > 1:30:26first three over the line and Belgium get one point. They were the

1:30:26 > 1:30:37teams to score points there. And they're still attacking. Spain open

1:30:37 > 1:30:44a gap and h rider tried to get that extra spurt of pace. But it is very

1:30:44 > 1:30:49late in the day. Its Torres at the moment. The Danes are 11 points off

1:30:49 > 1:30:53the lead. If they want to take the title, they have to take the

1:30:53 > 1:31:00junction and I think they're going to do it. They're only 30 metres

1:31:00 > 1:31:03behind the peloton and with seven laps to go, I think they're going to

1:31:03 > 1:31:09win this World Cup right at the death. What a ride, what a sustained

1:31:09 > 1:31:16concerted effort from Denmark to try and turn this around.France have

1:31:16 > 1:31:24managed to stay with them and it will come down to that final sprint.

1:31:24 > 1:31:28France, the world champions, sticking on the wheel of the Danish

1:31:28 > 1:31:34team and doing it by their finger nails at the moment. France and

1:31:34 > 1:31:39Denmark have been judged to have gained a lap and Spain as well

1:31:39 > 1:31:42suddenly have been given a lap. France lead from Denmark from

1:31:42 > 1:31:53Poland.Equal points with 750 metres to go.Now it is opening up again

1:31:53 > 1:31:58and Spain are keeping on going. Gritting their teeth and riding from

1:31:58 > 1:32:06everyone else. Torres hands over to Mora. Spain opening up a gap. Poland

1:32:06 > 1:32:12lead the chance with Ireland and Italy. On equal points, it doesn't

1:32:12 > 1:32:17matter where they finish, who ever finished highest at this final

1:32:17 > 1:32:23sprint.We have hardly mentioned Italy. As we come into the last lap

1:32:23 > 1:32:31of the race. We are almost done with this Madison race and Spain leading.

1:32:31 > 1:32:35Mora has quite an advantage, being chased by Italy and Ireland. Germany

1:32:35 > 1:32:39are up there. Denmark and then New Zealand. We are up to the line and

1:32:39 > 1:32:43the first rider over the line from Spain. Now crossing the line are the

1:32:43 > 1:32:47Danes. The Danes have got over the line and I think that would mean

1:32:47 > 1:32:53that Denmark are going to win this men's Madison race.Yes they were

1:32:53 > 1:32:58out of the points, but they finished further forward than France, so it

1:32:58 > 1:33:08should come down to that final sprint. So sprint 12 of 12.As the

1:33:08 > 1:33:13final sprint and after 12 of 12, France and Denmark both on 46

1:33:13 > 1:33:22points. Equal first place. With Poland in third. Spain fourth and

1:33:22 > 1:33:34Belgium down in fifth. Wh a close finish in this men's Madison. CLARE

1:33:34 > 1:33:38BALDING: The Maddison always terrific to watch. Very gruelling

1:33:38 > 1:33:44and it takes a pair, Chris, who get to know each other well?It is about

1:33:44 > 1:33:49being able to read your partner's mind in positioning yourself on the

1:33:49 > 1:33:55track. It looks like chaos, when you're riding it is about knowing

1:33:55 > 1:34:00where your team mate is and having a strategy. You have a split second to

1:34:00 > 1:34:06say a word or two on the handover. Great Britain finished sixth. It was

1:34:06 > 1:34:10a solid ride. They were a bit out-classed today. But they're

1:34:10 > 1:34:15deciding who has won the race, because it is equal points.

1:34:15 > 1:34:18deciding who has won the race, because it is equal points. It is

1:34:18 > 1:34:23counting back. They change the rules every week. I don't know if we have

1:34:23 > 1:34:29found out what has won.It has been confirmed that Denmark have won and

1:34:29 > 1:34:38France are second. So the Danish riders you can see... Celebrating.

1:34:38 > 1:34:42And it's, oh, my word, you see the pain there. The pain, the relief,

1:34:42 > 1:34:48the joy. It doesn't get much closer. Equal points. The top four teams all

1:34:48 > 1:35:01gained a lap. As we saw when Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish won.I

1:35:01 > 1:35:10love watching their faces. When they're racing, they're covered by

1:35:10 > 1:35:16the visors. But it is a World Cup and it is a stepping stone to the

1:35:16 > 1:35:22World Championships. People like the Danish team are overjoyed to win.I

1:35:22 > 1:35:26think the Madison is an event that we can try on television, but

1:35:26 > 1:35:29television doesn't do it justice. Because you can't keep up with it.

1:35:29 > 1:35:35If you get the chance to come to a big cycling event, come on a day

1:35:35 > 1:35:39where you can watch the Madison. There is the confirmed result,

1:35:39 > 1:35:41Denmark taking the gold medal.

1:35:48 > 1:35:52Do you agree that live when you can see what they're doing it is

1:35:52 > 1:35:58brilliant.Yes and it is best if you can sit next to somebody who knows

1:35:58 > 1:36:03what they're talking about.That is why I sit here!The other good thing

1:36:03 > 1:36:07about being in the stadium, you get to watch the athletes before and

1:36:07 > 1:36:12after the rides and you see the whole process, when they arrive two

1:36:12 > 1:36:17hours before to when they leave and not many sports you get to see them

1:36:17 > 1:36:23that position. Before the end we are going to showing you what happened

1:36:23 > 1:36:29in the women's Madison. But this one final live event to come here at the

1:36:29 > 1:36:34velodrome. It is because the bronze medal race for women's sprint has

1:36:34 > 1:36:41gone to a decider. Vogel took the gold. But it is one race apiece

1:36:41 > 1:36:51between these two Laurine van Reissen and Voinova. Some athlete is

1:36:51 > 1:36:56like to psyche you out, that can be a sign they're worried. I think all

1:36:56 > 1:37:01the riders will be thinking about their strategy, and the process of

1:37:01 > 1:37:05what they need to go through and they will have their A plan and

1:37:05 > 1:37:20their B plan and a plan C in case it goes wrong.Voinova and van Reissen

1:37:20 > 1:37:24was a skater. They don't seem to be acknowledging each other oes

1:37:24 > 1:37:35presence.Voy Voinova will try to use her experience. In the second

1:37:35 > 1:37:40ride she didn't ride tactically well, but she had the legs on the

1:37:40 > 1:37:48Dutch rider. This is a tough one to call. I would say Voy Voinova is not

1:37:48 > 1:37:56going to do it.It is a contrast from the men's Madison to this.It

1:37:56 > 1:38:01is a horrible feeling when you know everyone else has finish but they

1:38:01 > 1:38:09still are the biggest race of the day. They're going to fight it out.

1:38:09 > 1:38:16So we join Chris Boardman and Simon Brotherton.

1:38:16 > 1:38:23So we join Chris Boardman and Simon Brotherton. COMMENTATOR: Voinova

1:38:23 > 1:38:30kept her hopes alive of the bronze by winning the second race. She is

1:38:30 > 1:38:34staring out her opponent.Sat on the the chairs, I thought she was going

1:38:34 > 1:38:39to fall asleep. Her enthusiasm has been internalised. She got herself

1:38:39 > 1:38:46back in the game. I think she is physically faring better as the

1:38:46 > 1:38:55competition has gone on. She has not changed the tactics. But that last

1:38:55 > 1:39:03ride, I think it was her opponent faded to the end.Cumulatively a lot

1:39:03 > 1:39:11of laps for all the riders.Maybe the almost lack of tactics from

1:39:11 > 1:39:17Voinova has paid off. She let even dictate and she followed, but she

1:39:17 > 1:39:22hasn't taken the initiative and tried to force an attack. By virtue

1:39:22 > 1:39:26of that she has been sat on the wheels and spent a lot of time on

1:39:26 > 1:39:33shelter and that may be paying dividends now.You can see a three

1:39:33 > 1:39:40lap race. And typically of sprinting, the tension ratchets up

1:39:40 > 1:39:44with often a slow opening lap, which can often be at walking pace.

1:39:44 > 1:39:47Sometimes less than that. I don't think they will hang around this

1:39:47 > 1:40:00time though.More dynamic as she weaves around the track and tries to

1:40:00 > 1:40:06dictate from the back.Shanne Braspennincx from the Netherlands.

1:40:06 > 1:40:11This is the last medal of the meeting, bronze in the women's

1:40:11 > 1:40:17sprint now. Shanne Braspennincx will lead this from if front. Voinova

1:40:17 > 1:40:21tries to draw level. Should tore shoulder, into the finishing

1:40:21 > 1:40:30straight. It will be close. Oh, it will be really close. Maybe

1:40:30 > 1:40:34Anastasia Voinova edged in front on the final turn of the pedals. She

1:40:34 > 1:40:38was gaining and gaining, did the finishing line come in time? Yes, it

1:40:38 > 1:40:45did and she will win by half a wheel.Tactics-free approach to this

1:40:45 > 1:40:51Championship. It worked out well for her. She found her formula. Had the

1:40:51 > 1:40:55confidence there to stick with the tactic. And Shanne Braspennincx

1:40:55 > 1:40:59forced into playing the same role again. I thought she had been forced

1:40:59 > 1:41:04on to the wheel early in the home straight with a lap to go and so as

1:41:04 > 1:41:10Chris Hoy said, she is coming off a dead wheel. But she has had the

1:41:10 > 1:41:14one-to-one acceleration. Although she is in arrears, she is travelling

1:41:14 > 1:41:19faster. As soon as you're back into the home straight, and there is no

1:41:19 > 1:41:24distance disadvantage, she starts to roll forward.Half a wheel the gap

1:41:24 > 1:41:29and Voinova, having lost the first match up, turns it around. She will

1:41:29 > 1:41:37go home with a bronze medal in her back potting. Kristina Vogel was the

1:41:37 > 1:41:44class rider in this. She took the gold medal in that match up with

1:41:44 > 1:41:47Laurine van Reissen. Shanne Braspennincx couldn't hold on to

1:41:47 > 1:41:52that early lead in the race for bronze and Voinova takes it for

1:41:52 > 1:41:54Russia.

1:41:54 > 1:41:57bronze and Voinova takes it for Russia. CLARE BALDING: Voinova

1:41:57 > 1:42:02coming good. But now we reflect on the women's Madison and back into

1:42:02 > 1:42:05international competition, that decision was confirmed in June, that

1:42:05 > 1:42:11it would come into the Olympics for the first time in Tokyo and here at

1:42:11 > 1:42:17this world up up with we see -- World Cup we see the British pair.

1:42:17 > 1:42:25This what is they make of each other and the event.I plan to be paired

1:42:25 > 1:42:30with Elinor Barker. She is very experienced and has done three World

1:42:30 > 1:42:36Cups and World Championships. So she will be leading the way, making the

1:42:36 > 1:42:41good shouts. I was riding London six day last weekend or the weekend

1:42:41 > 1:42:48before sorry. And yeah, it was fairly rife with errors and pretty

1:42:48 > 1:42:53grateful for the mistakes that I know not to make again this weekend

1:42:53 > 1:42:57and not let Elinor down.I have enjoyed the Madison this year. It

1:42:57 > 1:43:03only started a year ago and I have liked it. It is carnage and it is

1:43:03 > 1:43:09chaos, but it is fun.I think we are developing that language of sort of

1:43:09 > 1:43:12two second communication, which is what you have got between the change

1:43:12 > 1:43:16and being able to read somebody's racing style to know where they are

1:43:16 > 1:43:23and what they need and what they're capable of.It is evolving as

1:43:23 > 1:43:29woman's event. It is never going to start at a high level. It has to

1:43:29 > 1:43:32progress and people have to get experience. That is happening

1:43:32 > 1:43:39quickly I think. So it is from the races I have raised, it seems it is

1:43:39 > 1:43:43a lot more advanced technically and tactically than it was when I

1:43:43 > 1:43:52started racing a year ago.Sprints rev I s every ten laps with points

1:43:52 > 1:43:58on offer. We join it with 31 laps to go.

1:43:58 > 1:44:03on offer. We join it with 31 laps to go. COMMENTATOR: She has opened up

1:44:03 > 1:44:10an enormous gap. The world champions are chasing hard. She won't catch

1:44:10 > 1:44:17Katy Archibald. Five more points for Great Britain.Again persisting and

1:44:17 > 1:44:23how fast the gaps can open and close. The gap this but they're

1:44:23 > 1:44:27travelling fast. These two teams are the class of the field. They got

1:44:27 > 1:44:31away together and if they both persisted, that would be the end of

1:44:31 > 1:44:40the race.Archibald will be glad she was able the hand over to Elinor

1:44:40 > 1:44:44Barker. Britain and Belgium in the front and the Italians can sense

1:44:44 > 1:44:49this is the move they need to get on to. Barieri got out of saddle there,

1:44:49 > 1:44:56leading the chance. Britain on 20 points, Belgium 15, France on 6.I

1:44:56 > 1:45:02think we're going to see a breakaway of three. I think the Italians will

1:45:02 > 1:45:07get on terms probably, but if they persist, I don't think we hill see

1:45:07 > 1:45:13these three -- we will see these three again.Three very strong teams

1:45:13 > 1:45:21in Belgium, Britain and Italy.

1:45:21 > 1:45:24She will pay the price. It is terrible when you are chasing and

1:45:24 > 1:45:29see the change in front of you and you are so close and it accelerates

1:45:29 > 1:45:36away from you.It is the junior road race champion only last year, so

1:45:36 > 1:45:47plenty more to come from this Italian duo, 19 and 20.They have

1:45:47 > 1:45:50clear track behind. They started to take a bit of a break away. You

1:45:50 > 1:45:59cannot do that here. These are the teams which will make this race,

1:45:59 > 1:46:07unless there is a concerted effort and the teams get stuck in. I am not

1:46:07 > 1:46:12seeing it yet.Italy come to the front of the leading group of three.

1:46:12 > 1:46:21Albeit briefly and we are back with the Belgians and Jolien D'Hoore.

1:46:21 > 1:46:27Warning to the team from UK, no idea what that was for and I've no

1:46:27 > 1:46:30embarrassment saying that, because there's so much action to follow on

1:46:30 > 1:46:35the track. You need eyes in the back of your head to follow everything

1:46:35 > 1:46:40that is going on in a Madison race. There's so much activity out on the

1:46:40 > 1:46:44track.The three at the front are working well together but not

1:46:44 > 1:46:47committing to this move. They have opened up an opportunity for the

1:46:47 > 1:46:50other teams to get back on terms. It is because they are waiting for this

1:46:50 > 1:46:55sprint. One lap to go this time. Barker in pole position. That is

1:46:55 > 1:47:04what it is to stop them really coming to the breakaway. She has

1:47:04 > 1:47:09Lotte Kopecky on her wheel. Barbieri looks cooked. Here comes Barker

1:47:09 > 1:47:14again. Superb ride from the British pairing here. Archibald and Barker,

1:47:14 > 1:47:18we know they are world class, but they are showing it time after time

1:47:18 > 1:47:23in the way they are taking on this Madison.19 laps to go. When they

1:47:23 > 1:47:28come around this time they can smell the victory. They persisted. This is

1:47:28 > 1:47:38a constant tactic. It is surprising the other teams are not sensing it.

1:47:38 > 1:47:42They really are in pole position here. The only ones who can almost

1:47:42 > 1:47:47hold on to their coat-tails are the Belgiums and Italians. The United

1:47:47 > 1:47:56States coming in with a late run that's Kimberley Zubris. Here to

1:47:56 > 1:48:01make it four at the front, I think. Not been scoring in this race so

1:48:01 > 1:48:06far. So it is not going to make a great deal of difference other than

1:48:06 > 1:48:18having an extra pair of legs... They are just riding through today.

1:48:18 > 1:48:29Kimberley Geist and Kimberley Zubris, two from Pennsylvania.

1:48:29 > 1:48:35Kopecky, Barker and Barbieri at the front.15 points left to gain. So

1:48:35 > 1:48:40the Brits not looking to be showing any signs of weakness at all.

1:48:40 > 1:48:47It is all for the Belgian to do. Neven the sprints, the Belgian pair,

1:48:47 > 1:48:51the World Championships are testing the Brits. It is looking very good

1:48:51 > 1:48:57for them at the moment.Kimberley Geist is a world champion in the

1:48:57 > 1:49:02team pursuit. A rider Elinor Barker will know all too well having come

1:49:02 > 1:49:07up against here. The British quartet. Easing up in their terms.

1:49:07 > 1:49:11Suddenly all together. Happens so fast. The ebb and flow of Madison

1:49:11 > 1:49:19racing. Katie Archibald back for Britain.A

1:49:19 > 1:49:25kilometre or three laps to go until now until the next sprint. Wisely

1:49:25 > 1:49:31springing up and sinking the wheel out. They can afford to not win now.

1:49:31 > 1:49:35They just have to shadow the Belgian pair. They cannot afford to let them

1:49:35 > 1:49:39get away and get other teams between them.

1:49:39 > 1:49:43Two laps to go. They will take the bell for the next sprint, next time

1:49:43 > 1:49:53over the line. This is the Italian rider, Elisa Balsamo on the front.

1:49:53 > 1:50:00Beautiful for her, she doesn't need to win this one.Belgium stuck

1:50:00 > 1:50:03behind Russia there. That has taken their momentum away. The sprint

1:50:03 > 1:50:10being led out here by Italy. Italy looking strong.Belgium found a way

1:50:10 > 1:50:13through nicely. The Brits got caught in the traffic. That is OK. They can

1:50:13 > 1:50:18afford to give away a point or so there. It was Barbieri who claimed

1:50:18 > 1:50:22five points there for Italy. She is the rider who closed that gap when

1:50:22 > 1:50:27the breakaway went away initially. So the gap now, six points and only

1:50:27 > 1:50:32the final sprint remaining. It carries a prize of 10 points. So it

1:50:32 > 1:50:37is possible for the Belgians to overhaul the British team. Italy

1:50:37 > 1:50:41back on nine, are not in contention and they have run out of time to

1:50:41 > 1:50:46gain a lap. So it is all about this final sprint. We have got teams up

1:50:46 > 1:50:49the road now. That actually suits Britain at this point, so long as

1:50:49 > 1:50:54they do not gain a lap because they are mopping up those valuable

1:50:54 > 1:51:01points, taking away the opportunity from Belgium.Kopecky at the front

1:51:01 > 1:51:09of the race. She's not being pointed at, it is the British rider, Katie

1:51:09 > 1:51:14Archibald, with Lydia Boylan at the front. They were signalled as being

1:51:14 > 1:51:19the ones at the front.I didn't think that was the case, but we will

1:51:19 > 1:51:27bow to that judgment. It is Boylan and Archibald. A gap opening back to

1:51:27 > 1:51:32Italy, France, the United States and Russia. To be clear, it doesn't

1:51:32 > 1:51:38matter if the British pair do not win this last sprint. It doesn't

1:51:38 > 1:51:42matter if they finish behind the Belgians so long as they are next in

1:51:42 > 1:51:46line they will take the title. Six points between them and they are

1:51:46 > 1:51:51glued together like a tandem at the moment.Someone is being pulled out

1:51:51 > 1:51:55of the race, we will not worry about that with five laps to go. Here,

1:51:55 > 1:52:03coming down on the inside there, Elinor Barker almost colliding with

1:52:03 > 1:52:07the Belgian rider, Jolien D'Hoore. Neither want to do the pace making

1:52:07 > 1:52:13at this point. Barker swinging up. Three laps to go, as they come

1:52:13 > 1:52:22around this time. Followed here by Kopecky... Great

1:52:22 > 1:52:27Britain behind her. Lots of traffic for riders to negotiate here. And

1:52:27 > 1:52:33they all got split up here. That was the opportunity set by the World

1:52:33 > 1:52:36Championships to get daylight between us and the British team.

1:52:36 > 1:52:41Barker spotted the danger. She's still two wheels back. Two laps to

1:52:41 > 1:52:46go.Boylan leads the way. Belgium in second place. Great Britain make the

1:52:46 > 1:52:50change in fourth now. As they take the bell, it's on Katie Archibald,

1:52:50 > 1:52:57around the outside she goes. Boylan will not be at the front for long.

1:52:57 > 1:53:01Archibald chasing all the way to the front now. Katie Archibald will take

1:53:01 > 1:53:08it this time. Beaten to the line by door door door. A great ride by the

1:53:08 > 1:53:14British riders there. Great Britain and the world champions, Belgium

1:53:14 > 1:53:17going head-to-head there, in that women's Madison race and Great

1:53:17 > 1:53:24Britain take it by two points. .

1:53:26 > 1:53:31It is a grim mace rather than a grin. But I am elated.

1:53:31 > 1:53:33It is a grim mace rather than a grin. But I am elated. I cannot

1:53:33 > 1:53:38remember this last time you didn't medal in the Madison. You seem to be

1:53:38 > 1:53:42getting good at it.I have enjoyed it. It is a different race every

1:53:42 > 1:53:48time I have ridden. The last month I have ridden Madisons they have been

1:53:48 > 1:53:52different even though it is the same field. The standard has got higher

1:53:52 > 1:53:56because everyone has had time to practise. It is less than just about

1:53:56 > 1:54:01doing the basic manoeuvres and the changing of position, it is a lot

1:54:01 > 1:54:05more tactical and a mind game. You have beaten the world champions as

1:54:05 > 1:54:09well. I mean that must give you great confidence. You move into the

1:54:09 > 1:54:13season and towards the World Championships?Massively. There is

1:54:13 > 1:54:18nothing I wanted more in Hong Kong than to be the first ever women's

1:54:18 > 1:54:22world Madison champ. Hopefully we can have a good run at it this year

1:54:22 > 1:54:27and have a go at the second one. That is two days, two attritional

1:54:27 > 1:54:31races you have been involved in. The legs didn't seem happyGot what we

1:54:31 > 1:54:40were looking for. It's not been a good week for world champions. I

1:54:40 > 1:54:46think Barbieri's the only one who has won her event. Is that right? It

1:54:46 > 1:54:50has worked in our favour today. Katie Archibald and Elinor Barker

1:54:50 > 1:54:54getting more and more experienced with every Madison they do. And

1:54:54 > 1:54:58maybe this is the plan they will gel together and they could well be the

1:54:58 > 1:55:06team come the Tokyo Olympics. That will be the decision of GB Cycling.

1:55:06 > 1:55:10Stephen Parker joins Chris and myself. Was that the highlight for

1:55:10 > 1:55:13you of this World Cup?Certainly one of the highlights. The whole

1:55:13 > 1:55:17performance of the team has been great. It has been great to be here

1:55:17 > 1:55:22at a home event and to hear the roar of the crowd get behind everybody.

1:55:22 > 1:55:27The women did fantastically well in the team pursuit, as did the men in

1:55:27 > 1:55:30the men's team pursuit. Some great performances. Also the sprinters did

1:55:30 > 1:55:39well. Didn't do so well in the meddling but they did perform. PBs

1:55:39 > 1:55:44for them. They are making great progress. For us it is about the

1:55:44 > 1:55:48long game, looking towards the game itself. But great performances this

1:55:48 > 1:55:52weekend.Any surprises from other nations? Anyone who has raised the

1:55:52 > 1:55:58bar or produced something you were not expecting?Over recent World

1:55:58 > 1:56:03Cups, Italy have been very strong. They have been pretty consistent.

1:56:03 > 1:56:07They have got thorough beating today by our women, who performed

1:56:07 > 1:56:12incredibly well. I think some of the sprinting events, you know, the

1:56:12 > 1:56:15Aussies were doing quite well. So, but nothing particularly was

1:56:15 > 1:56:22standing out. There's nothing that the coaches were come particularly

1:56:22 > 1:56:26surprised about, other thn in the sprinting, you know this better than

1:56:26 > 1:56:31me, at times they are incredibly fast and fast for this time of the

1:56:31 > 1:56:34season but fast overall. The conditions were not exceptionally

1:56:34 > 1:56:41quick. The air pressure was not that low. It is always warm. Two guys a

1:56:41 > 1:56:46whole host of 9.7s. The gear is part of that. Growing bigger and bigger.

1:56:46 > 1:56:50That only goes so far you have to turn the gears. Phenomenal standard

1:56:50 > 1:56:54of the sprint. If there was one stand-out message from the coaches,

1:56:54 > 1:56:59it is the racing is really fast for this stage of the cycling and in the

1:56:59 > 1:57:04sprinting overall. We talked to Ed Clancy earlier in the programme. .

1:57:04 > 1:57:08He said for him the build up for Tokyo starts here. Is that how you

1:57:08 > 1:57:15see it in your mind?I think that there are different riders for

1:57:15 > 1:57:20different events, starting at different times, but in that men's

1:57:20 > 1:57:25team pursuit, with this being the first event for them coming back

1:57:25 > 1:57:30into the team, there's no doubt this was the springboard for them to kick

1:57:30 > 1:57:33into the World Championships and wrap up over the final two years

1:57:33 > 1:57:38into the games. So, there's no doubt that the riders are now beginning to

1:57:38 > 1:57:44build some momentum into 2018 and into to what will become the period

1:57:44 > 1:57:47which will begin in the final quarter of 2018.It is about time

1:57:47 > 1:57:53you were on time. Your preparation you have Laura and Jason Kenny to

1:57:53 > 1:58:01come back into the world.-- back into the fold. Certainly wouldn't be

1:58:01 > 1:58:05picking a team today. There is a lot of water under the bridge yet.

1:58:05 > 1:58:10People will get that back. Jason and Laura intending to come

1:58:10 > 1:58:15back in the spring time. Plenty of excitement for the team in 2018.

1:58:15 > 1:58:18Thank you for joining us. Congratulations on the successes we

1:58:18 > 1:58:22have seen here. Thanks to Chris as well. Plenty more coming your way on

1:58:22 > 1:58:27the BBC tonight and tomorrow. But from us, here at the national

1:58:27 > 1:58:32cycling centre, in Manchester, it is goodbye.

1:58:35 > 1:58:41Katie Archibald has the crowd on the edge of their seat... Great Britain

1:58:41 > 1:58:49take gold here in Manchester. That's the smile of victory there...

1:58:53 > 1:58:55Gold for Great Britain!
