:00:31. > :00:39.Zagar from Slovakia, one of the world's greatest show men, has
:00:40. > :00:41.landed the world title. Lizzie Armitstead has sprinted her way to
:00:42. > :00:56.victory. You have got to have luck on your
:00:57. > :01:07.side. These are the decisive moment in
:01:08. > :01:11.this World Championship road race. It took a lot of hard work and
:01:12. > :01:17.determination, failure, to get to this point. Lizzie Armitstead is
:01:18. > :01:24.right in the thick of it. She is in the driving seat. It was a
:01:25. > :01:28.calculated race. Lizzie Armitstead is going for it. The sprint is
:01:29. > :01:34.really on and Armitstead is coming towards the front! Up towards the
:01:35. > :01:37.line, it is gold for Great Britain and Lizzie Armitstead. She is the
:01:38. > :01:50.champions of the world. Welcome to a seriously hot Doha in
:01:51. > :01:55.Qatar, the host of the 20 Sixteen Rd cycling world champion chips. Two
:01:56. > :01:59.fantastic days of racing and Rochelle Gilmore and David Millar
:02:00. > :02:06.alongside me. It was a special day for Lizzie. Fantastic day, so much
:02:07. > :02:11.to talk about it. But she stayed relaxed. To bring home those
:02:12. > :02:18.rainbows last year was special for her. A different race today? Yes, it
:02:19. > :02:25.is hot. We are in the desert. We have these conditions occasionally.
:02:26. > :02:29.I don't think we have ever done a World Championships in this heat
:02:30. > :02:39.before. Lizzie Armitstead is supported by a strong team.
:02:40. > :02:44.You are defending that rainbow jersey and you got married a couple
:02:45. > :02:49.of weeks ago. How is married life? I have been married a month and I have
:02:50. > :02:54.only seen my husband the four days of it! Looking back on your year in
:02:55. > :03:01.rainbow, how would you reflect on it? It has been up and down. The GB
:03:02. > :03:05.cyclist Lizzie Armitstead has responded to criticism over her
:03:06. > :03:08.three missed drugs tests, apologising to anyone who may have
:03:09. > :03:14.lost their faith in sport as a result of her actions. Looking back,
:03:15. > :03:19.what are your thoughts? I would be lying if I said it wasn't extremely
:03:20. > :03:25.difficult for me and my family. It was traumatic to be honest. I
:03:26. > :03:30.suppose you learn from everything in life. I focused the last six months
:03:31. > :03:36.on climbing, trying to prepare for Rio and beastly, it was a very tough
:03:37. > :03:45.time and physically and mentally tough. You have to allow your body
:03:46. > :03:51.to rest both for mental and physical health and I need that kind of dip
:03:52. > :03:56.now. A difficult experience and lessons learned, can you know impart
:03:57. > :04:01.some of that experience to the team with you now? It is a really nice
:04:02. > :04:05.group of women to be leading. Sadly, I am the 27-year-old experienced
:04:06. > :04:09.rider and they are all asking me questions and I feel I can embrace
:04:10. > :04:14.that role now and do it justice. I feel like I have lived through
:04:15. > :04:19.locked, victories and defeats and that is all to come for them. I am
:04:20. > :04:27.sure one of them among them could be world champion in the future. Lizzie
:04:28. > :04:31.is the strongest in the team. We wanted to bring a full team and be
:04:32. > :04:35.able to give it a good shot to defend that jersey. It will be tough
:04:36. > :04:40.but it is a young team and it is good to have all of these riders
:04:41. > :04:44.here. It is my first time riding in a World Championships on the road.
:04:45. > :04:49.Spirits are high in the camp and I am looking forward to getting out
:04:50. > :04:53.there and racing. What do you expect from this team? I think it is
:04:54. > :04:59.fantastic we have a team of eight. It is brilliant for great British
:05:00. > :05:03.women's cycling. I don't know if that has happened before. We have a
:05:04. > :05:09.few cards to play. I don't think Lizzie is an out and out favourite.
:05:10. > :05:14.My project this year was the Olympic games. It is important I am here to
:05:15. > :05:21.respect the jersey and respect the next winner of the jersey. I am not
:05:22. > :05:24.prepared like I did for Richmond. There are a lot of Championships and
:05:25. > :05:31.this will not be easy. I would like to give it a go. I missed out last
:05:32. > :05:34.year through injury so I am ready to get stuck in. I think it will be
:05:35. > :05:41.fast and furious and I think it will be exciting to watch. Let's talk
:05:42. > :05:46.about Lizzie, very low-key, coming here, not really talking up their
:05:47. > :05:51.chances but she is a natural born racer. Absolutely and she plays down
:05:52. > :05:57.her chances because this course is not exactly perfectly suited to
:05:58. > :06:02.Lizzie Deignan. It is tough and technical and with the conditions,
:06:03. > :06:05.it will be hard. There is a small chance Lizzie could retain the World
:06:06. > :06:12.Championship jersey and she does want to even know she is playing it
:06:13. > :06:18.down. She would love to win it. Big target this year was the Olympic
:06:19. > :06:24.Games. She has had a good year. Fantastic, she won so many races at
:06:25. > :06:29.the start of the year. She had a great ride, it was a very hard
:06:30. > :06:32.course. As world champion, she has had a stellar year. If she could
:06:33. > :06:38.finish it off by winning this, it would be the dream season. All of
:06:39. > :06:41.that distraction, having to go to the court of arbitration, having
:06:42. > :06:47.missed a couple of tests, British cycling has come under scrutiny in
:06:48. > :06:51.the last couple of weeks. Yes but again, that was due process and I
:06:52. > :06:54.think that was a real silly mistake of hers, careless of her to miss
:06:55. > :06:58.three tests and she got the appeal and she went through the due process
:06:59. > :07:04.and that is permitted. I hope she will never miss one test again. If
:07:05. > :07:07.ever British cycling needed a good news story, it was this week. The
:07:08. > :07:12.pressure will be on the team but they all seem in good spirits. They
:07:13. > :07:18.are just a bunch of lovely kids and I then necessarily deserve the
:07:19. > :07:21.scrutiny they have been under. Let's look at the others. Hannah Barnes,
:07:22. > :07:27.national champion. She could suit this course. Absolutely and I
:07:28. > :07:33.wouldn't put it past Lizzie to say, I will put all my efforts to put
:07:34. > :07:35.Hannah Barnes into the sprint. She won the national Championship and
:07:36. > :07:45.she has the support of her younger sister Alice Barnes. Danny King also
:07:46. > :07:52.get the start for the first time in her career. Danny King coming off
:07:53. > :07:57.the track. She was disappointed not to make the Olympic team for Britain
:07:58. > :08:02.on the road, she has a appoint a bruise. This is one of the better
:08:03. > :08:07.teams we have seen for the women in a long time. A sense of solidarity
:08:08. > :08:13.with them. They seem to be all for Hannah Barnes and Lizzie Armstead.
:08:14. > :08:19.It is a great combo. A strong Britain team, eight riders, let's
:08:20. > :09:08.meet them. I am Alice bands, 21 years old riding for drops cycling.
:09:09. > :09:16.It is great to see the full complement. Eight riders. The first
:09:17. > :09:20.time in a very long time. They will need it on the scores because it
:09:21. > :09:26.will be hard to control. Although flat and relatively easy, it will be
:09:27. > :09:31.very tactical. A big step up. Then, what will their main role be? They
:09:32. > :09:35.will listen to their team captain. The young riders need the experience
:09:36. > :09:41.of being given a role and trying to execute it. A wonderful experience
:09:42. > :09:45.for the young riders. It is a challenge. To give you a better idea
:09:46. > :10:03.of what they can expect, we sent David and Michelle into the heat to
:10:04. > :10:06.write the course. -- Rochelle. World Championships... This is the pearl
:10:07. > :10:13.and that'll be the entrance to the circuit. A man-made island,
:10:14. > :10:17.relatively flat. Seven laps of 15.2 kilometres around the circuit,
:10:18. > :10:21.plenty of technical hairpins and corners for the athletes to
:10:22. > :10:27.navigate. Look at this, 12 minutes past nine and already baking.
:10:28. > :10:31.Certainly very hot. You have to get used to it. You have to drink more
:10:32. > :10:42.water because it doesn't stay cold very long. -- warm water. That
:10:43. > :10:45.wasn't quite what we expected. This on the map looks like a hairpin but
:10:46. > :10:53.is actually a very fast, sweeping bend. A technical circuit. Not
:10:54. > :10:57.nearly as technical as it looks like on paper. For the sprinters, they
:10:58. > :11:04.will barely touch the pedals. It is very much a sprinter's course. Look
:11:05. > :11:08.how wide it is, sprinters die for a road like this in the Tour de
:11:09. > :11:17.France, a perfect sprinters set up. It is beautiful, smooth. Kicks up a
:11:18. > :11:22.little bit on the finish. This is a perfect sprinter's course, you
:11:23. > :11:25.have... You don't see the finish line until 200 metres to go. This
:11:26. > :11:31.looks like what sprinters would love. For women particularly, a lot
:11:32. > :11:35.of fresh legs coming to the finish because this course is a pure
:11:36. > :11:41.sprinter course. They will really want to take their chance and come
:11:42. > :11:47.to the finish so we might see some barging at the finish. Because it is
:11:48. > :11:52.a circuit, they get to see it seven times so it won't be a surprise.
:11:53. > :12:01.Hopefully, it'll be a clean sprint. Not like what we did. The cyclist
:12:02. > :12:04.start at the cat foundation to the west of the city centre and they
:12:05. > :12:14.cover just over 20 kilometres through the city.
:12:15. > :12:24.Once they are on to the pearl, they will complete seven laps of a 15.2
:12:25. > :12:27.kilometre circuit. Full of turns and curves and roundabouts. The same
:12:28. > :12:33.circuit used in all of the other races including the time trials
:12:34. > :12:34.earlier in the week and the total distance, 134.1 kilometres and the
:12:35. > :12:43.route is fast, flat and technical. A route highly likely to produce a
:12:44. > :12:56.sprint finish. This is the start list. Lizzie
:12:57. > :13:10.Deignan the defending World Championship. -- world champion. An
:13:11. > :13:17.incredible Dutch team. Every single rider on that team could potentially
:13:18. > :13:21.win this. Giorgia Bronzini, Italian rider, one of your riders.
:13:22. > :13:26.Devastating for her, that is how sport goes. Two days ago, she was on
:13:27. > :13:30.target to win this and take a third world title and everything fell
:13:31. > :13:34.apart yesterday. She got food poisoning or was affected by the
:13:35. > :13:37.heat and she started to be really sick and throughout the night didn't
:13:38. > :13:42.get any better so she won't be starting today for the Italians. I
:13:43. > :13:45.really feel for an athlete that normally can get their preparations
:13:46. > :13:49.spot on but this is outside influences that can bring everything
:13:50. > :13:57.tumbling down in the last moment. Devastating news for her. Weather
:13:58. > :14:01.conditions today predictably, the sun is out but how does it compare
:14:02. > :14:05.with earlier in the week? I don't know whether we're getting
:14:06. > :14:12.acclimatised but it still feels like the desert, still incredibly hot. It
:14:13. > :14:18.really is a difference between it being hot or scorching and at the
:14:19. > :14:23.moment, it it is in between. We are touching scorching at the moment.
:14:24. > :14:26.This is a rare opportunities for sprinting. Opportunities for them in
:14:27. > :14:32.the World Championships only come around every few years. Yes and it
:14:33. > :14:37.seems to be every four or five years it happens on the last one was
:14:38. > :14:40.Copenhagen. Three times in the last 13 years so it is a rare opportunity
:14:41. > :14:46.for the sprinters and one they don't want to miss out on. Devastating for
:14:47. > :14:51.Giorgia Bronzini because you don't know when the next will come around.
:14:52. > :15:08.The women's road race is underway. Deignan among the first. That is the
:15:09. > :15:11.vice president of the UCI, one woman who has put so much effort into
:15:12. > :15:20.developing women's cycling at a global level. The UCI flagged by
:15:21. > :15:26.Tracy gaudily has just been dropped. I think that is Barbara from the
:15:27. > :15:29.Czech Republic who has had a mechanical issue at precisely the
:15:30. > :15:34.wrong moment. Very bad timing. Often if you have a mechanical in the
:15:35. > :15:50.neutral zone you will hold the start until you will back on. I think
:15:51. > :16:00.that is Gerry Yonamine. Flat race like this, it's interesting when you
:16:01. > :16:05.get climbers that say it will not suit me but I will go and have a go,
:16:06. > :16:10.anything can happen. Very brave move. The poor old rider from the
:16:11. > :16:13.Czech Republic is chasing already having had a mechanical issue at the
:16:14. > :16:21.side of the road. You see the size of these roads. It is so easy when
:16:22. > :16:24.you are sitting in the bunch on roads like this. On wind here, small
:16:25. > :16:30.roads, you might see people attacking. But you are seriously
:16:31. > :16:36.wasting energy. Judging by the fact nobody is reacting immediately to
:16:37. > :16:43.Yonamine, they will paste a race. National champion of Japan on the
:16:44. > :16:45.road. Fifth overall in the tour of the dash. We have a crash already,
:16:46. > :17:15.no row Mimi she wants a bottle. That's why she
:17:16. > :17:17.was moving to the front. You can see Dani King, she's always
:17:18. > :17:21.well-positioned at the front as well. She will be such an
:17:22. > :17:26.instrumental part of the result for Team GB today. The rider from
:17:27. > :17:32.Ethiopic trying to get a bottle from anybody prepared to provide one.
:17:33. > :17:39.Think there is not a great deal of support for some of these smaller
:17:40. > :17:42.cycling nations, here. So many riders so early in the race
:17:43. > :17:52.desperate to take on some more bottles. And still Gabriel of
:17:53. > :17:59.Ethiopia just cannot get a bottle off anybody at the moment. Oh dear.
:18:00. > :18:02.She will need to get some fluid from somewhere. Certainly looks like a
:18:03. > :18:10.dangerous place to be, down the back of the peloton in the feed zone,
:18:11. > :18:14.some banks being handed out. Surely there must be some arrangement for
:18:15. > :18:18.the Ethiopian team. There must be. You can see the expressions on the
:18:19. > :18:22.faces of these riders, somewhat different to how it would normally
:18:23. > :18:26.be in the first 30 or 40 kilometres just two to the heat. Such a
:18:27. > :18:31.challenge and uncomfortable. That is good to see. Yes, it was difficult
:18:32. > :18:36.for that rider to take a bottle during the feed, a lot of chaos
:18:37. > :18:45.going on. There are roving cars of Shema no handing out water. -- of
:18:46. > :18:48.Shimano. And a sticky bottle at that. That is when the rider hangs
:18:49. > :18:59.onto that bottle for a little longer than they need to. Just to make sure
:19:00. > :19:02.they are not going to drop it! I think that could be Anna van der
:19:03. > :19:14.Breggen, the Olympic gold medallist, on the front. The German champion
:19:15. > :19:20.chasing her. So the Swiss rider very quick to jump across and now we have
:19:21. > :19:24.two leaders out on the road. Riding on her own today for all intents and
:19:25. > :19:31.purposes, the only rider with a Swiss jersey on her back in this
:19:32. > :19:36.elite figure. Controlling things back in the peloton, the German
:19:37. > :19:39.rider. Trixie Warwick is in the middle of your screen, one of the
:19:40. > :19:44.most experienced riders in this peloton. She is an outside chance
:19:45. > :19:51.for a World Championship based purely on Eric 's period. And she
:19:52. > :19:54.had a devastating accident when she slid under a guard rail and had an
:19:55. > :19:59.emergency operation to remove a kidney. Everybody thought it would
:20:00. > :20:05.be the end of her career but she came back. She was back racing by
:20:06. > :20:09.June, wasn't she? These stories of these athletes that have these
:20:10. > :20:15.accidents and the surgeries that you would think would prevent them from
:20:16. > :20:18.racing at elite level again in any sport, they are back so quickly
:20:19. > :20:22.because their bodies are just so fit when they have these accidents that
:20:23. > :20:29.they repair themselves and heal. Ooh, this is the race favourite.
:20:30. > :20:37.Tristan Wilde is down. Wild from the Netherlands, one of the big
:20:38. > :20:47.favourites to win today. -- Kirsten Wild is down. It will be interesting
:20:48. > :20:53.to see how Kirsten Wild reacts to this, it can play on your mind. How
:20:54. > :20:56.can it be my bad luck? Let's look at the replay. Just on the outside of
:20:57. > :21:04.the roundabout. Pretty Slocombe low speed. She is back up. It was a slow
:21:05. > :21:08.speed tumbles. Just got twisted. Very calm, putting both bottles back
:21:09. > :21:11.into her bike, picking that one up off the ground. So, very relaxed,
:21:12. > :21:28.calm, professional. Roxane Kneteman almost held up by
:21:29. > :21:32.that as well. No damage done but a scary and anxious moment for one of
:21:33. > :21:37.the favourite soft the race, number 16, Kirsten Wild. No significant
:21:38. > :21:42.breaks in terms of how this result is likely to pan out, although we do
:21:43. > :21:55.have two leaders out in front at the moment. Nicole Hanselman of
:21:56. > :22:05.Switzerland and Yonamine of Japan. Their lead is over 30 seconds. Who
:22:06. > :22:08.are we looking at now? One would imagine that plenty is set to happen
:22:09. > :22:15.between now and the finish. The Dutch are having a little go off the
:22:16. > :22:18.front. Is that Hannah Barnes chasing down? That interesting, no
:22:19. > :22:21.Netherlands and Great Britain are going to mark each other down, so
:22:22. > :22:27.the other teams need to profit from that. They know if the Netherlands
:22:28. > :22:33.team go, a GB rider will chase, and vice versa as well. Hannah Barnes
:22:34. > :22:38.was quick to get on the Dutch rider's tail. Mariano Boss, known as
:22:39. > :22:43.one of the best female cyclists in the world, and Hannah Barnes had the
:22:44. > :22:50.role to mark that. Because not many people have the power to kick and
:22:51. > :22:57.respond to a move of Vos, but Hannah Barnes has done that. Looks like
:22:58. > :23:09.Germany brought it back again. The big teams are looking at each other.
:23:10. > :23:12.And nobody will let Marianne Vos go. The Netherlands are being quite
:23:13. > :23:20.active, they seem to be the most active team so far. Marianne Vos,
:23:21. > :23:26.three times the world champion. Five times second. We have this vision of
:23:27. > :23:28.her winning everything all the time like some sort of eggy Merck 's of
:23:29. > :23:46.winning cycling -- some sort of Eddi Merckx of women's
:23:47. > :23:53.cycling. They want to toughen the race up. They want to rip it to
:23:54. > :23:59.pieces. There has not been much thinning out so far in this field.
:24:00. > :24:02.Not until now. But as David says, the Netherlands have made it evident
:24:03. > :24:10.that they are not going to roll along and put all their cards on the
:24:11. > :24:16.sprinter. They've got Marianne Vos, van Dijk, such a strong team. We've
:24:17. > :24:21.seen Amy Peters and Roxane Kneteman at the front. And another attack now
:24:22. > :24:28.by the Netherlands. Everybody will want to respond to this. They will
:24:29. > :24:31.all go with this, they know if van Dijk disappears up the road she will
:24:32. > :24:40.take some bringing back. As you can see, very quick, the response. Also
:24:41. > :24:43.she strings out the field rapidly. The big riders are coming out to
:24:44. > :24:48.play and seeing what's happening. They understand the tactics. It's
:24:49. > :24:52.becoming quite evident that the Netherlands will not stop until it
:24:53. > :24:56.does split. Feels like the race is just really getting started now with
:24:57. > :25:00.this activity on the front. It's been a big question mark about which
:25:01. > :25:05.nation will want to make this hard. We did not really know if the
:25:06. > :25:09.Netherlands would want to, because they have been pure sprinter, known
:25:10. > :25:14.as the Queen of Qatar, she has won so many races in the desert out
:25:15. > :25:22.here. Lizzie Deignan is at the front as well, starting to push. Marianne
:25:23. > :25:25.Vos, Lizzie Deignan, Hannah Barnes is up there. Lizzie Deignan is on
:25:26. > :25:31.the radio now, that's one indication of how Lizzie is in really good
:25:32. > :25:34.form. Which is fantastic to see after the Olympics and the emotional
:25:35. > :25:41.season she has had, to just be on top form. And van Dijk is possibly
:25:42. > :25:45.the strongest rider in the race. Abbey made Parkinson pulling over at
:25:46. > :25:50.the side of the road for a quick wheel change. That's a bad time for
:25:51. > :25:56.her with attacking going on at the front, it will take a while to get
:25:57. > :26:00.back on. Marianne Vos at the front. Marked by the Italians. Great
:26:01. > :26:04.Britain is there, America, Sweden, Germany, all the big nations. But
:26:05. > :26:10.Marianne Vos and Lizzy Deignan are the two that really want to ignite
:26:11. > :26:15.this race and split it up. Lizzie Armistead, the harder the race the
:26:16. > :26:18.better. And this is not good for Parkinson, having to stand at the
:26:19. > :26:23.side of the road for this amount of time when the race is at the point
:26:24. > :26:27.it is that, this is a very slow change. There is something wrong
:26:28. > :26:31.with the skewer, that's a shame, it will make life very difficult. This
:26:32. > :26:36.is the reason why it is great that the nations that qualify a riders
:26:37. > :26:39.like Team GB bring a full complement and all the riders filling those
:26:40. > :26:43.spots because anything can happen. This type of thing could happen to
:26:44. > :26:48.two or three riders. Even the winner of the time trial out here making
:26:49. > :26:52.the race hard. You see how much work is being done in the peloton to
:26:53. > :26:57.bring this one back. She is in fine form, the current time trial
:26:58. > :27:07.champion. Chased down by Amy Peters of the Netherlands. On a course like
:27:08. > :27:09.this, for it to split apart, the attacks must be relentless. You
:27:10. > :27:15.cannot give up and go soft tactically, you have two keep going.
:27:16. > :27:20.And it starts to draw out the stronger riders. Good ride by Dani
:27:21. > :27:28.King up there in third place. So GB are represented. A gap of about two
:27:29. > :27:34.riders in that small split. Looked like the Belgian rider had to close
:27:35. > :27:41.that gap for their sprinter. Now it's just going to be a matter of
:27:42. > :27:45.which riders are strong enough. Very hard on a course like this, but
:27:46. > :27:53.which rider has really got the form in the legs and get the timing right
:27:54. > :28:00.to split this up. Looks like King and Barnes up there. If it was a
:28:01. > :28:04.hilly circuit people would be waiting for the hill, but here it is
:28:05. > :28:09.relentless and you cannot predict where it will go. They may find a
:28:10. > :28:14.section with a headwind or a crosswind, a series of corners that
:28:15. > :28:20.makes it more difficult. You have to have a strong team willing to do
:28:21. > :28:22.attack after attack. It will only eventually split when everybody is
:28:23. > :28:32.on their hands and knees and that's when you have to push hard. Here we
:28:33. > :28:35.are in the middle of the peloton with Nicole Hanselmann, who was
:28:36. > :28:41.upfront with Yonamine earlier. They split off the front. Lizzie Deignan
:28:42. > :28:47.coming across, sensing it will happen. Kirsten Wild is applying the
:28:48. > :28:53.pressure. And these are the strongest riders in the world making
:28:54. > :28:57.this difficult on a flat circuit. They are known as being stronger on
:28:58. > :29:04.the hilly circuit. But Marianne Vos, Lizzie Dignan, Emmy Johannson, the
:29:05. > :29:10.Italian rider in there, we have not picked up her number yet.
:29:11. > :29:18.The former winner of the Tour of Flanders is in the peloton for
:29:19. > :29:26.Italy. You can see the damage that has done. Lizzie Deignan on the
:29:27. > :29:34.front. And she looks very comfortable, doesn't she? The
:29:35. > :29:41.American rider goes. You may need a counter attack, this is not
:29:42. > :29:42.disrespectful, but the B quality riders, and that's the sort of move
:29:43. > :29:57.that can go. It's likely to split soon if the
:29:58. > :30:04.Americans keep applying the pressure. She has had a sensational
:30:05. > :30:12.season. Disappointing result at the Olympics. But Olympics aside she has
:30:13. > :30:21.had a phenomenal season, winning the Giro, National Championships again.
:30:22. > :30:24.Meanwhile, further back, the usual chaos as riders try to grab a
:30:25. > :30:40.bottle. Allie Dragoo taking her time. The
:30:41. > :30:45.real action is taking place up the road and at times, there has been a
:30:46. > :30:49.panicked reaction behinds. We see the biggest guns in the race come
:30:50. > :30:59.out. This will be an aggressive race. It is hard to know what will
:31:00. > :31:03.go on until the actual race because everyone says this is a sprinter's
:31:04. > :31:08.course but you can see as tactics change, it can become anything.
:31:09. > :31:12.Sometimes causes that claim to be sprinters, they end up being the
:31:13. > :31:14.best races because it forces interesting and unpredictable
:31:15. > :31:22.tactics and that is what is happening now. 55.8 kilometres to go
:31:23. > :31:26.in the swimming's elite road race and the defending champion Lizzie
:31:27. > :31:30.Deignan from Great Britain is up towards the front. British team
:31:31. > :31:36.prominent, the Dutch keep attacking. The British are animating the race
:31:37. > :31:43.among others, constantly responding, not the issue themselves. Abby-Mae
:31:44. > :31:47.Parkinson had a rear wheel problem a while ago and has managed to fight
:31:48. > :31:53.her way back into the peloton. Dani King and Hannah Barnes and on the
:31:54. > :32:00.right of your picture, the German rider. Emma Johansson having
:32:01. > :32:08.something to eat with the yellow shoulder jersey. We ride now with
:32:09. > :32:19.Nicole Hanselman, the Swiss rider in the race.
:32:20. > :32:29.Armitstead, now Deignan and Marianne Vos among them. So in some tax which
:32:30. > :32:37.made life difficult for those in the peloton behind. The race winding its
:32:38. > :32:42.way around The Pearl. The Italians have not been so active. They
:32:43. > :32:45.normally take control of the races over the past ten years but we
:32:46. > :32:50.wonder if the absence of Giorgia Bronzini, their leader and captain,
:32:51. > :32:55.has affected and hurt them today. We haven't seen much of the Italians.
:32:56. > :33:00.Sometimes that can happen when you have been so dedicated one tactic
:33:01. > :33:04.and one race strategy, and overnight, it completely changes
:33:05. > :33:09.because your leader is sick and can't start the race. It really does
:33:10. > :33:15.set a cat amongst the pigeons and the team loses direction slightly. I
:33:16. > :33:20.think that is what we aren't seeing from the Italians. They also have
:33:21. > :33:26.Bastianelli who was a very good sprinter. She has a chance of being
:33:27. > :33:34.on the podium and even an outside chance that the victory should this
:33:35. > :33:38.come down to a big, bunched sprint. You think at some point during this
:33:39. > :33:41.race, the Netherlands will like it up and try to hurt the peloton and
:33:42. > :33:46.splitted up but will there be a point where the Netherlands get
:33:47. > :33:49.tired from attacking and it all sit up and comes down to its breadth or
:33:50. > :33:59.will it be aggressive right to the line? I was wondering whether they
:34:00. > :34:02.would be counter-attacked. Team GB and Netherlands are marking each
:34:03. > :34:12.other out and at some point perhaps they will drop their guard at some
:34:13. > :34:17.point. You have to be careful that because you become so focused on one
:34:18. > :34:19.tactic and one race situation that you missed something else happening
:34:20. > :34:27.and another team could be thinking that. They might be thinking, wait
:34:28. > :34:34.until they get tired and then go as hard as we can. If you were smart
:34:35. > :34:37.and you have relationships in the peloton, you might speak to another
:34:38. > :34:47.team and say, let's let them do that. I'm sure a number of riders in
:34:48. > :34:50.the peloton will be thinking, let's wait and see if the moment presents
:34:51. > :34:57.itself to take advantage of all the attacking and hard work the
:34:58. > :35:04.Netherlands are doing. Heidi Dalton with an on-board camera. I love the
:35:05. > :35:07.on-board camera views we have had during this World Championships from
:35:08. > :35:12.the other races as well, when incidents happen in the peloton, it
:35:13. > :35:16.gives a really good view to the spectators as to how things unfold
:35:17. > :35:19.in the peloton and how little movement you have in the peloton
:35:20. > :35:28.around the wheels that are in front or next to you. Definitely opens up
:35:29. > :35:33.to you in a way you might not have seen before. When you see the lead
:35:34. > :35:36.trains and they are shouting at each other and it is all quite frantic,
:35:37. > :35:52.it is a whole new appreciation. At the moment, no sign that anyone
:35:53. > :35:59.will manage to get away and form a little lead group, at the moment...
:36:00. > :36:02.People are not tired enough I think. Those attacks have lasted for about
:36:03. > :36:06.half an hour and it will have taken the edge off some people and some
:36:07. > :36:11.people will pay a price that but then you have a long and people can
:36:12. > :36:14.refuel and recharge and recalibrate. You need to keep pushing so hard so
:36:15. > :36:19.everyone goes over their threshold and basically not be able to fuel
:36:20. > :36:24.properly and put them under stress but it is easier said than done
:36:25. > :36:28.because you need a strong team. You need eight riders basically going
:36:29. > :36:32.one after the other constantly. That requires eight riders on form,
:36:33. > :36:35.willing to gamble a little bit because only a couple of them will
:36:36. > :36:42.actually... No other team has committed to joining them. Exactly,
:36:43. > :36:46.it is just the Dutch so far, if another team is contributing, we
:36:47. > :36:50.would have a race on our hands. They would say, Great Britain decided,
:36:51. > :36:55.instead of playing a defensive game, let's call it, against the
:36:56. > :36:59.aggressive game of the Netherlands, if they start racing aggressively as
:37:00. > :37:06.well, then you see Great Britain ripped to pieces. Coryn Rivera, down
:37:07. > :37:11.the back of the peloton, having a conversation with a couple of the
:37:12. > :37:15.Belgian riders. These Belgian riders will be motivated because they have
:37:16. > :37:19.a rider in the peloton who is very capable of winning this World
:37:20. > :37:26.Championships and the closer they get to the finish, the more
:37:27. > :37:32.confident float should door... Will be. Amy Pieters has been a rider
:37:33. > :37:39.appointed to making this race hard because we have seen are... Be
:37:40. > :37:42.wrong, this could be Annemiek van Vleuten, the rider leading the
:37:43. > :37:49.Olympic Games and had that horrific crash. Annemiek van Vleuten is
:37:50. > :37:54.really putting the pressure down. She races in the Australian outfit
:37:55. > :37:58.which is why her helmet is the same as the Australian rider behind her.
:37:59. > :38:05.Van Vleuten on the front for the Netherlands. 50 K to go. She had big
:38:06. > :38:11.plans to retire after the Rio Olympics but given she had that
:38:12. > :38:14.accident and demonstrated herself she has the ability to win an
:38:15. > :38:18.Olympic games, she has decided to kick on and sign another contract
:38:19. > :38:22.and it will be interesting to see how many more years she goes. She
:38:23. > :38:29.did prove she has the ability to still get herself into peak form and
:38:30. > :38:33.at the Games, she was definitely the strongest rider. Why would you want
:38:34. > :38:41.to retire when you are riding as strongly as she is? The Dutch again
:38:42. > :38:44.are going for it once more. This time, it is Amy Pieters but the
:38:45. > :38:49.Dutch have not stopped with the attacking. They are the only nation
:38:50. > :38:52.that wants to make it hard and it is interesting because they have the
:38:53. > :38:57.fastest sprinter in this race in Kirsten Wild. They have strength in
:38:58. > :39:03.numbers. Very hard for them to break this up but it looks like they will
:39:04. > :39:07.keep attacking. It was never a counter-attacked. The Netherlands
:39:08. > :39:12.are counterattacking themselves. Italy and Australia both more
:39:13. > :39:16.prominent in themselves. They now understand what is happening. Dani
:39:17. > :39:27.King glued to the wheel. Marianne Vos from the Villumsen going for it.
:39:28. > :39:34.-- from the Netherlands. Little gaps opening up. People are getting tired
:39:35. > :39:39.and they can't quite be as quick. The thing is and this is where the
:39:40. > :39:47.race comes in, when attack goes at this point, Marianne Vos has gap and
:39:48. > :39:50.that is good tactics from her. She has done the work and caused the
:39:51. > :39:56.split and they will contribute to it. It is a case of the Netherlands
:39:57. > :40:02.continuing to do this and occasionally bringing out Marianne
:40:03. > :40:09.Vos to weaken it up and then send your strong rider out. The gap is
:40:10. > :40:13.being closed and it is Australia doing it but just starting to
:40:14. > :40:17.splinter behind. Towards the final third of the peloton, final quarter
:40:18. > :40:24.of the peloton. Le Clos strung out they are. You can't hesitate when
:40:25. > :40:32.this happens. If you let the gap opened up, a massive amount of work
:40:33. > :40:42.to do. They do not hesitate in one instant. The South African riding
:40:43. > :40:48.about fourth place as well. Marianne Vos not easing off the pedals, she
:40:49. > :40:51.has done a big turn on the front. Another Dutch rider, it could be
:40:52. > :40:54.Ellen van Dijk, just went back for some bottles in that moment of
:40:55. > :41:00.aggression from the Netherlands in the front. The riders getting tired
:41:01. > :41:06.and it only takes a couple of riders in the middle of the peloton...
:41:07. > :41:09.Australian... Looks like it could be Tiffany Cromwell. This is not good
:41:10. > :41:12.for them because she was an important part of the team
:41:13. > :41:19.especially towards the end of the race. This will be a really
:41:20. > :41:23.affecting the Australians if Tiffany Cromwell cod get back into the
:41:24. > :41:29.peloton. Back at the front but bad timing for Cromwell as she waits for
:41:30. > :41:34.mechanical assistance. I think it was Hannah Barnes responding about
:41:35. > :41:39.six or seven in line. Just starting to splinter and split, this race,
:41:40. > :41:48.the pressure is starting to tell. We are inside the final 15 kilometres
:41:49. > :41:53.now. The Dutch tactic is continuing to make life difficult for everybody
:41:54. > :41:56.else. Starting to pay dividends for them because we can see the split
:41:57. > :42:03.starting on the back of the race breaking the pieces. Those gaps are
:42:04. > :42:06.a little more easy now and more difficult to close down. This is
:42:07. > :42:17.where we know the race is getting the breaking point. Slight easing in
:42:18. > :42:20.relative terms at the front. The Dutch will be wanting another team
:42:21. > :42:28.to do the same as them. This is Tiffany Cromwell. I think maybe her
:42:29. > :42:31.chain slipped or something. She had a little crash so it will be
:42:32. > :42:36.interesting to see she can back in but she is an important domestic for
:42:37. > :42:42.one of the fastest sprinters in this peloton Chloe Hosking. The Dutch
:42:43. > :42:50.have not stopped, really putting the hammer down, the winner of the
:42:51. > :42:55.Olympic games, Anna van der Breggen. A little bit of looking around for a
:42:56. > :43:02.second before there was a response. At the back, I can see Laura Massey
:43:03. > :43:08.from Great Britain. Riders being dropped left, right and centre at
:43:09. > :43:11.the back of the main field. If we can get to the point in the race
:43:12. > :43:14.when everyone starts to weaken, constant attacking from the
:43:15. > :43:15.Netherlands and it is a case of losing almost half the peloton in a
:43:16. > :43:35.short period of time. This is a strong rider that can
:43:36. > :43:40.close those gaps but not in a great position now and perhaps that time
:43:41. > :43:43.trial early in the week is taking it out of her. Anna van der Breggen on
:43:44. > :43:49.the front, Olympic gold medallist. Some hesitation behind. They are
:43:50. > :44:05.getting into little groups now. A nasty moment for the rider from
:44:06. > :44:09.Eritrea. What does Anna van der Breggen do? Wait for help or keep
:44:10. > :44:14.driving on by herself? She has to keep driving on and force them to
:44:15. > :44:16.come up, that is when the counterattack will work, forcing
:44:17. > :44:23.everyone to work hard to bring it back. You can see how hard everyone
:44:24. > :44:26.is having to work to close this move of Anna van der Breggen and it is
:44:27. > :44:35.really splitting up. Lizzie Deignan still there. Everyone is weakening
:44:36. > :44:37.all of a sudden. She seems to be pretty much in control still but
:44:38. > :44:45.there are gaps opening up everywhere. We saw a few of the
:44:46. > :44:48.sprinters, Kirsten Wild, sitting comfortably in the mass part and not
:44:49. > :44:55.responding to these moves out in front. Emma Johansson still there at
:44:56. > :45:04.different and Eileen Roe from Team GB a great job. Perfect tactics. Van
:45:05. > :45:06.Vleuten is having a go again, going near where the barrier is, there she
:45:07. > :45:19.is. I'm sure that is Van Vleuten. Hannah Barnes reacting quickly.
:45:20. > :45:26.Three laps to go as they crossed the line. Some riders are blowing up. At
:45:27. > :45:33.the sharp bend they are starting to blow up and as they are coming by
:45:34. > :45:37.you can see gaps opening up. Lizzie Deignan you can see up towards the
:45:38. > :45:42.fund, one of the first to go over the line. Dani King has gone through
:45:43. > :45:50.as well. Hannah Barnes is right up there. In third place behind Van
:45:51. > :45:54.Vleuten. She has been super impressive. She was second in the
:45:55. > :45:57.time trial with her professional team. 14th in the individual time
:45:58. > :46:02.trial does not sound so special but for a sprinter it was a very special
:46:03. > :46:06.ride and proves she is on top, top form. You can see that she is
:46:07. > :46:09.covering these moves and that she looks quite comfortable. And we
:46:10. > :46:18.mention that she was six in that World Cup race in Sweden. Dani King
:46:19. > :46:20.of GB in there as well, also doing a very good job. Lizzie Deignan will
:46:21. > :46:25.come to the finish quite confident that her team has done a great job.
:46:26. > :46:29.There's Lizzie. She is very well positioned as well. Be orange of her
:46:30. > :46:35.helmet at the front. Dani King is omnipresent at the front. She's good
:46:36. > :46:40.at being assertive in the front, Lizzie Deignan, as you would expect
:46:41. > :46:44.from someone of her experience, but she is very assertive. And that also
:46:45. > :46:48.shows how good she is feeling because it's not easy to be
:46:49. > :46:56.consistent at the front, it takes a big effort to be there but she times
:46:57. > :47:00.it perfectly every time. We are entering the final hour of the race,
:47:01. > :47:03.and this is where a lot of the big hitters trying to get the medal will
:47:04. > :47:11.thing, we are in the final hour, it is getting serious. Another crash in
:47:12. > :47:15.the feed zone. Like you said, Dave, I think the magic one hour to go is
:47:16. > :47:18.a key moment in the race where sprinters that have hung on and put
:47:19. > :47:23.themselves in position, they think, I have got this far into the race,
:47:24. > :47:28.just one hour to go and they get a whole new level of fitness and level
:47:29. > :47:33.of freshness. In a race like this, it's been quite aggressive in the
:47:34. > :47:36.last hour so the sprinters have two fight really hard and gamble that it
:47:37. > :47:41.keeps coming back together. When there is one hour to go in the race
:47:42. > :47:45.they consciously decide, now I have to take things into my own hands and
:47:46. > :47:53.be active. Only one hour to go, I can do this. Is a break goes, it can
:47:54. > :47:57.go to the finish. Beyond that you know over an hour that it gives
:47:58. > :48:01.enough time to bring something back. Another crash at the front,
:48:02. > :48:10.roundabout. That is fatigue setting in as well. She has had to stop for
:48:11. > :48:14.the second time in the race but as you can see, she is up and running
:48:15. > :48:21.once more. One rider we haven't mentioned much of today, the Danish
:48:22. > :48:25.outside chance in a sprint. She had a fantastic sprint in the recent
:48:26. > :48:31.Tour. And for Denmark she is an outside chance. She's a two-time
:48:32. > :48:35.world race junior champion. Shows every sign of being one of the big
:48:36. > :48:43.stars of the next few years in women's cycling. Absolutely. She was
:48:44. > :48:52.concentrating on the track in Rio. Her display in the last events of
:48:53. > :48:58.the omnium were spectacular. She has been riding in a domestic role this
:48:59. > :49:01.year but pulled off a nice win a couple of weeks ago. She is a fast
:49:02. > :49:05.sprinter and will have track speed from being on track most of this
:49:06. > :49:09.season. She will be one to watch in the finish. Action on the front from
:49:10. > :49:19.something other than an orange jersey, the USA sending a ride up
:49:20. > :49:22.the road. Amber Neben had a goal early on, she has been restoring her
:49:23. > :49:25.energy reserves at the back of the peloton and has come back against
:49:26. > :49:29.the blue this is what I mean about an hour to go. A time trial
:49:30. > :49:32.specialist with that far to go, you would think it is possible they can
:49:33. > :49:37.do that if they are feeling good and fresh. You would not want somebody
:49:38. > :49:41.who has just won the World Championships to get a gap and start
:49:42. > :49:44.going. This is what I meant about the Dutch being caught out and
:49:45. > :49:49.counterattacking. They can soft and everybody up, do the hard work, and
:49:50. > :49:52.wait for her to go. The Netherlands and Team GB are just watching each
:49:53. > :50:00.other. Quite a clever move for Amber Neben. She lets them soft and up,
:50:01. > :50:04.waits for the lull, and goes on. Interesting that the peloton did not
:50:05. > :50:11.respond to that move. Whether they couldn't or didn't, that's the
:50:12. > :50:15.question. But Amber Neben, having won the time trial, has proven she
:50:16. > :50:19.is in fantastic form, not a rider you want to slip off the front. If
:50:20. > :50:23.she gets into with it will take an effect for the nation is to combine
:50:24. > :50:28.together to bring her back. Because she's not going to stop and she's in
:50:29. > :50:34.the form of her life. Yes, going to be a big ask for anybody. Nobody can
:50:35. > :50:39.do it individually so at some point they will have to do go. No team
:50:40. > :50:44.will want to. The Netherlands are sitting there, they have been caught
:50:45. > :50:48.out, they find themselves riding at the front, chasing down somebody
:50:49. > :50:51.profiting from their work. As a two-time world champion in the time
:50:52. > :50:56.trial specialist, she has also finished fourth in the World Road
:50:57. > :51:01.Championships before as well. Here she is on the front once again and
:51:02. > :51:11.Amber Neben will be happy with this scenario. Throwback to Tuesday
:51:12. > :51:16.afternoon. When she won the world title for the second time at the age
:51:17. > :51:21.of 41. Psychologically, now she has the gap, she knows she is fastest in
:51:22. > :51:23.the world on that circuit, she did it a few days ago and
:51:24. > :51:27.psychologically it is a massive boost. She slips into a different
:51:28. > :51:32.mindset and you can see teams panicking slightly. Belgium putting
:51:33. > :51:39.a ride on the front. They are aware this is not one rider you want up
:51:40. > :51:43.their, up the road on their own. Interesting to see them at the
:51:44. > :51:46.front. Belgium. They are not one of the strongest teams. Interesting to
:51:47. > :51:49.see they have taken up the responsibility and not just passed
:51:50. > :51:54.it over to the stronger teams like the Netherlands and Team GB. It's a
:51:55. > :51:58.bit of a silly tactic in my opinion. You've seen how much the Netherlands
:51:59. > :52:03.won this race, don't help them, let them do what they clearly want to
:52:04. > :52:08.do, control this race and own it essentially. It is playing into the
:52:09. > :52:22.hands now of the Dutch and Team GB. You sort of call their bluff
:52:23. > :52:26.slightly. I think it is Marianne Vos sitting in second place. That is one
:52:27. > :52:29.of the beauties of women's cycling, it is not so predictable. It's not
:52:30. > :52:34.going to make any difference, it's not as if there are enough Belgians
:52:35. > :52:37.to do it. As David was saying, the Dutch made it obvious they are
:52:38. > :52:42.absolutely desperate to win the race, so why not sit up and let them
:52:43. > :52:46.get on with it? You call their bluff, you go up to them and say,
:52:47. > :52:49.you want it, you chase it down. I should think that will be what
:52:50. > :52:54.Lizzie Deignan will be saying to her team-mates. Exactly. Their
:52:55. > :52:57.responsibility, let them do it. And this is what I said before about
:52:58. > :53:01.another team profiting from them calling each other's bluff. The
:53:02. > :53:07.amount of time it takes them to decide what to do, you can get that
:53:08. > :53:12.gap, which is what Amber Neben is doing. Back in the main field. Well,
:53:13. > :53:17.she was distant stuff the back, so she has done well to get back in.
:53:18. > :53:20.The race is in the hands of the Americans at the moment. They had a
:53:21. > :53:24.disappointing Olympic Games but they are in a strong position now with
:53:25. > :53:30.Amber Neben, current world champion. The Dutch are on the front. Team GB
:53:31. > :53:34.are playing it very cool now. As we spoke about at the start of the
:53:35. > :53:37.race, Lizzie Deignan is a cool customer when it comes to tactics,
:53:38. > :53:41.not the sort of rider caught out in a situation like this. She will be
:53:42. > :53:45.saying to relax, I know what the Dutch will do, let them do as much
:53:46. > :53:49.work as possible, we will contribute if we have to do at the very last
:53:50. > :53:52.moment. Lizzie is on the very edge of the road up towards the front,
:53:53. > :53:57.just keeping an eye on what is going on. There is the leader and not
:53:58. > :54:01.surprisingly considering it is the world time trial champion, she has
:54:02. > :54:06.already gained an advantage of 40 seconds on the main field. The main
:54:07. > :54:09.field who are hot, sweaty and in some cases a little confused as to
:54:10. > :54:15.quite how they want to react at this moment in time. Because on a circuit
:54:16. > :54:18.like this it is very hard to get away on your own, and Marianne Vos
:54:19. > :54:22.understands what is happening now. They do not have a team-mate that
:54:23. > :54:26.can match Amber Neben so there is no point using up their troops. She has
:54:27. > :54:30.to ride aggressively and cause a split, and Lizzie Deignan
:54:31. > :54:33.understands that as well. She is in third place, letting the Belgian
:54:34. > :54:38.rider close the gap. Writing a clever race. Staying as close to the
:54:39. > :54:42.front as she can whilst doing as little work as possible in the
:54:43. > :54:46.process of doing so. I don't think we've seen Lizzie Deignan once in
:54:47. > :54:50.the wind. We've seen Marianne Vos and all the other riders attacking,
:54:51. > :54:55.and not once have we seen Lizzie Deignan go off the front. She's very
:54:56. > :54:58.relaxed and that is one of her strengths, reading a race, staying
:54:59. > :55:02.cool and calm. As we said before, the Belgian riders for example may
:55:03. > :55:08.be a little less experienced, in a bit of a panic, with a rider broken
:55:09. > :55:11.away, they are desperately trying to close down time. Not very
:55:12. > :55:15.productively, given that they are not the stronger team. But that's
:55:16. > :55:21.the difference between having a team captain Mike Lizzie Deignan 14 GB,
:55:22. > :55:24.just keeping everybody cool. She has had so many problems on the course
:55:25. > :55:30.today. I'm wondering if she's getting told off. I wonder if she
:55:31. > :55:39.got dragged on. Maybe she is getting told off for having a tow back to
:55:40. > :55:45.the peloton. Yes, could be the case that she got a tow and is being
:55:46. > :55:48.asked to leave the race. The president wants to talk to the
:55:49. > :55:52.Russian team car, so they might be getting pulled out of the race.
:55:53. > :55:56.Mechanical problem, I think maybe she got a tow back on after that
:55:57. > :56:05.incident. Because she got back on very quickly. I think the will
:56:06. > :56:11.properly disqualify her. Looks like some trouble for Olga, no stranger
:56:12. > :56:14.to controversy, let it be said, having not that long ago come back
:56:15. > :56:20.from a doping ban herself. Here is Amber Neben who leads at the moment,
:56:21. > :56:24.31 seconds is the gap and it has not changed despite the big turn on the
:56:25. > :56:27.front from Marianne Vos for a little while. And there is Lizzie Deignan,
:56:28. > :56:32.defending world champion in second place, here. Wouldn't be surprised
:56:33. > :56:37.if she pulls off and takes herself at the back so she cannot get caught
:56:38. > :56:43.out. Sitting probably a bit too far at the front. Lizzie Deignan
:56:44. > :56:48.certainly demonstrating she is one of the stronger striders in this
:56:49. > :56:51.race, as has Marianne Vos. We've seen the big names we normally see
:56:52. > :56:55.at the front on hilly circuit is dominating this flat World
:56:56. > :56:58.Championship. Nobody helping the Belgian at the front, are they,
:56:59. > :57:04.here? This is a long ride at the front. Lauren roundly coming up
:57:05. > :57:08.towards the front of the peloton in the White with the green helmet from
:57:09. > :57:12.Australia. Good strong team rider for the Aussies. You know the
:57:13. > :57:17.Aussies have understood the threat as well. Playing slightly into the
:57:18. > :57:34.hands of the Dutch again. These other teams are panicking.
:57:35. > :57:39.So fantastic to see Amber Neben, she already has the gold medal in the
:57:40. > :57:44.bag from early in the week, and well-suited to a more hilly circuit,
:57:45. > :57:49.just giving her nation the chance to win this. Imagine if she got a
:57:50. > :57:53.double in Qatar at 41 years of age. Great year at the World
:57:54. > :57:59.Championships for the United States. She just missed a bottle, there.
:58:00. > :58:02.That will not be good. Not for her mental state. It's very difficult
:58:03. > :58:07.out there to keep motivated and believing in yourself. Would she
:58:08. > :58:11.only have one chance in that feed zone, or would there be more than
:58:12. > :58:14.one opportunity? There could have been two people but it looked as
:58:15. > :58:18.though she left it to the last person mind out there. She did not
:58:19. > :58:30.take a bottle in time through the feed zone.
:58:31. > :58:35.Lizzie Deignan has really put herself in a position to win this
:58:36. > :58:39.race up until this point, she is getting closer and closer to the
:58:40. > :58:42.finish with a few team-mates left in there. While she has played down her
:58:43. > :58:47.chances are we, she is looking very comfortable in a very good position
:58:48. > :58:51.to take this on. Looks like it could come down to a bank Street and she
:58:52. > :58:57.does not really recognise herself as a big bunch sprint, but she has the
:58:58. > :59:02.fitness level to come to the front. Certainly turning into a resolute
:59:03. > :59:05.and stout defence of the rainbow jersey from Lizzie Deignan, and she
:59:06. > :59:12.is still in with a chance of retaining that world crown. 35.5
:59:13. > :59:15.kilometres to go on the pole in Qatar.
:59:16. > :59:27.The gap is going up from Marianne Vos the peloton. The Australian
:59:28. > :59:30.rider has helped a bit, but the Belgian rider, it is tete-a-tete
:59:31. > :59:36.against the two of them, there is no way she can bring time back on Amber
:59:37. > :59:42.Neben, we know her quality. You need to or three strong riders. She did
:59:43. > :59:47.look as though she was banging her head against a brick. Blue she might
:59:48. > :59:51.have said, I cannot contribute I will just get my conservation to the
:59:52. > :59:55.race done. It is a mostly false economy because nobody else could
:59:56. > :59:59.help and she is not strong enough to bring the gap back. Amber Neben
:00:00. > :00:02.looks as comfortable as anybody could reasonably expect given the
:00:03. > :00:06.weather conditions and the state of the race. Radio area, she will be
:00:07. > :00:11.getting some information from her director in the race car, some
:00:12. > :00:14.motivation. She has team-mates back in the peloton that could
:00:15. > :00:19.potentially win if she gets caught. Megan Garnier had a phenomenal
:00:20. > :00:22.season. Olympics aside, which was a bit disappointing. At she was third
:00:23. > :00:28.at the world tamping chips last year. What is she like in a sprint,
:00:29. > :00:34.generally? She is quite fast but I would not back against the likes of
:00:35. > :00:42.Lizzie Armistead or Chloe Hosking. But she is one of the faster riders.
:00:43. > :00:51.She won BG rod, so you cannot say she is a pure sprinter but she does
:00:52. > :00:59.Dani King has been keen to get back into the British team on the road as
:01:00. > :01:03.Rochelle said, and has contributed well in this road race today. She
:01:04. > :01:07.would have been very nervous lining up to date, back in the GB kit in
:01:08. > :01:11.those colours, representing the nation and she has just wanted so
:01:12. > :01:16.badly to make that big step from the track to the road and representing
:01:17. > :01:19.GB is something that is the most important thing to her and she has
:01:20. > :01:24.achieved that here said she would have felt the pressure. She has been
:01:25. > :01:32.executing a role for the GB team and Lizzie Deignan very well out there
:01:33. > :01:35.today. The leader has eked out a couple more seconds over the chasing
:01:36. > :01:43.pack. Next time over the line, only two laps of The Pearl to go. You can
:01:44. > :01:47.see where people are every so often on this course. That is good for
:01:48. > :01:50.Amber Neben because she can see only one Belgian rider at the front and
:01:51. > :01:54.that will give her more confidence so she is still in control at the
:01:55. > :01:59.moment. You can see the orange colours of the Netherlands slowly
:02:00. > :02:03.moving to the front. They will make a calculated assault on bringing
:02:04. > :02:06.this back. If they leave the Belgian rider on the front for too long,
:02:07. > :02:10.they will be going backwards before they start to make the counter. They
:02:11. > :02:20.don't want to go over a minute. That is rapidly approaching. Bastianelli,
:02:21. > :02:25.number 24. Towards the back of the peloton for Italy. If it comes down
:02:26. > :02:30.to a sprint, she might be their bouts at the front of the race. Bath
:02:31. > :02:38.thereabouts. She will need to get further forward. 52 seconds, the
:02:39. > :02:46.advantage is going up all the time, from Amber Neben of the United
:02:47. > :02:50.States. Shadows growing a little longer in the late afternoon, we are
:02:51. > :02:58.a couple of hours ahead of the UK. Don't imagine it is particularly
:02:59. > :03:02.much cooler. It is still in the mid-30s, the temperatures, for the
:03:03. > :03:06.cyclists. She has got that radio in her ear so she has the motivation of
:03:07. > :03:08.the team director, giving her the time checks but also the motivation
:03:09. > :03:24.and confidence to keep pushing on. She definitely has the legs and
:03:25. > :03:33.ability and form to attack when this comes back together.
:03:34. > :03:38.In theory, Team GB appeared to be the strongest team at the moment in
:03:39. > :03:47.my opinion because they have responded to everything but not
:03:48. > :03:55.actually forced any action. Team GB moving slightly up again. Lizzie
:03:56. > :04:03.Deignan not far behind. I think everyone still has a full team. Yes,
:04:04. > :04:06.can see Eileen Roe there as well. She is doing a great job. Some
:04:07. > :04:19.impressive displays so far. I've certainly been very impressed
:04:20. > :04:22.by the form of Hannah Barnes at the World Championships and throughout
:04:23. > :04:28.the season, coming back from injury but she is obviously having a very
:04:29. > :04:34.good team captain from Lizzie Deignan. Very calm and relaxed. The
:04:35. > :04:39.big question is, if this comes down to a sprint, will GB ride for Lizzie
:04:40. > :04:45.Deignan or Hannah Barnes or possibly even Alice Barnes? They have three
:04:46. > :04:49.really fast riders in there. Options as they go into the closing stages
:04:50. > :04:59.of this race. We are inside the final two laps. A lot of riders
:05:00. > :05:10.still in contention for the rainbow jersey. Including the defending
:05:11. > :05:15.champion, Lizzie Deignan. Lauren Stephens of the United States coming
:05:16. > :05:19.back. She is a stage winner in Argentina in the last couple of
:05:20. > :05:28.years. Tenth overall in the Tour of California. I was listening to an
:05:29. > :05:33.interview of Lizzie Deignan earlier today and she said while she is
:05:34. > :05:36.playing down her chances of will Championship back-to-back here in
:05:37. > :05:40.Qatar, she was disappointed with his salute last year when she won the
:05:41. > :05:46.World Championships in Richmond and she would love to have a second
:05:47. > :05:49.chance, both arms up in the air crossing the line. So it has to be
:05:50. > :05:54.in the back of her mind that she is capable of winning this. Good sprint
:05:55. > :05:57.to the line last year from Lizzie, it was quite uphill inside the last
:05:58. > :06:01.kilometre and then slightly uphill sprint towards the line where she
:06:02. > :06:11.beat Anna van der Breggen to the line and Megan Guarnier who got the
:06:12. > :06:15.bronze medal for the United States. Amber Neben holding steady. Great
:06:16. > :06:20.Britain prominent alongside Australia but both nations happy to
:06:21. > :06:25.let the Dutch go to the front. Emmy Hanson for Sweden with one of her
:06:26. > :06:28.team-mates. We saw the Aussies and GB team having a chat about when
:06:29. > :06:31.they will put the hammer down and try to bring this back and they
:06:32. > :06:38.can't leave it out there that too much longer. 25.9 kilometres to go.
:06:39. > :06:43.Amber Neben is a strong rider, current world champion in the ITT
:06:44. > :06:50.but a little dropping off her head there is not a good indication. This
:06:51. > :06:58.is the rider that has done the majority of the work for the
:06:59. > :07:04.Australians. Loren Rowney has I think blown head gasket. I think her
:07:05. > :07:10.job is done for the day. She is actually a sprinter in her own right
:07:11. > :07:14.so to be chasing back moves would have been a difficult task for Loren
:07:15. > :07:19.Rowney but she has done her job unfinished for the day. No doubt
:07:20. > :07:28.Chloe Hosking, Australian sprinter, is there feeling very confident. 35
:07:29. > :07:35.seconds, 34 seconds, isn't that much when you consider it has been a full
:07:36. > :07:39.chase behind. If it was launched again, the attack, it would come
:07:40. > :07:42.back incredibly quickly. When the Dutch put a ride on the front and it
:07:43. > :07:47.closes down, they realise they have got this in control. They are a
:07:48. > :07:53.little more relaxed so they are leaving Amber Neben out there for a
:07:54. > :07:56.little bit longer. We can expect an aggressive last part of this race
:07:57. > :08:03.from the Dutch. They will feel she is within range. And because of the
:08:04. > :08:07.make of this circuit, glances of her and none of the big riders in the
:08:08. > :08:12.peloton... They have had a decent rest this lap. They have all been
:08:13. > :08:23.sitting back and refuelling in the wheels. Olga Zabelinskaya.
:08:24. > :08:28.Interesting she is not off the course yet because they did announce
:08:29. > :08:36.they disqualified her for an illegal bike change but still just rolling
:08:37. > :08:41.around on the course. Presumably preparing to roll off the course as
:08:42. > :08:49.she goes through the finish. At the first available opportunity. Come in
:08:50. > :08:59.number 84, your number is up, your time is up. She is escorted from the
:09:00. > :09:04.course by the UCI. She has had a bad day. A bad day at the office. Unlike
:09:05. > :09:15.Amber Neben who still leads by over half a minute. You can see she's
:09:16. > :09:21.digging deep note, checking the time check, 40 seconds. We get 34 seconds
:09:22. > :09:24.on our screen. We believe the peloton have got this under control
:09:25. > :09:32.and they will be able to bring it back when they decide it is time to
:09:33. > :09:37.pull Amber Neben back in. You can see now it is the Australians on the
:09:38. > :09:42.front, stringing out the peloton. An indication there sprinter is feeling
:09:43. > :09:46.good in the peloton. A fairly reduced peloton out and that has
:09:47. > :09:49.been the attrition from all of those attacks. Not much has gone off from
:09:50. > :09:58.the front of the race apart from Amber Neben but lots from the back.
:09:59. > :10:02.Dutch back on again. They will not risk it, just get it back under
:10:03. > :10:09.control and we will see whether they will ride it on the line or launch
:10:10. > :10:13.an attack. I can't predict it. They did all those attacks... This is
:10:14. > :10:20.Carmen Small, a problem at the back for the United States. Hard to tell
:10:21. > :10:23.whether those attacks were tiring everyone out or whether they
:10:24. > :10:30.genuinely wanted to split up into smaller groups. She hasn't had a
:10:31. > :10:34.very happy will Championship, Carmen Small. The national champion and
:10:35. > :10:38.felt she was should have got one of the slots for the Olympic Games in
:10:39. > :10:45.Rio and they went with Christine Armstrong. They were proved right
:10:46. > :10:49.because she won the gold medal but Carmen Small went into arbitration
:10:50. > :10:53.over trying to get that spot in Rio. She was here and hoping to prove her
:10:54. > :11:00.point in the time trial but maybe trying a bit too hard. Disappointing
:11:01. > :11:05.12th place to the other day. She has chasing to do as well after
:11:06. > :11:10.mechanical issue. I was thinking last night how difficult emotionally
:11:11. > :11:12.the season has been for Carmen Small because you transferred from one
:11:13. > :11:15.team to another in the middle of the season and things weren't working
:11:16. > :11:19.out with her team and she changed to another team at the same time she
:11:20. > :11:23.was putting in her appeal process for the selection for the Olympic
:11:24. > :11:28.Games. She had won the national time trial Championship and beating
:11:29. > :11:32.Christine Armstrong who won the Olympic Games so that would be very
:11:33. > :11:36.difficult emotionally to deal with. The USA made the right decision
:11:37. > :11:41.because they selected a rider that won the Olympic Games but then
:11:42. > :11:45.Carmen Small beat that rider at the Championships so it has been a
:11:46. > :11:48.difficult season for her and with the mechanical here, not a good
:11:49. > :11:53.situation for the USA because Amber Neben is right in front and they
:11:54. > :12:03.need her back in the peloton, should she be caught very soon. Still half
:12:04. > :12:08.a minute and not much coming from the Dutch at the moment. Are they
:12:09. > :12:12.regrouping? I think so, I think the next time it goes it will be all-out
:12:13. > :12:17.warfare. They can take it on the line so it will be... They would
:12:18. > :12:22.have to strategise it quite well by discussing who is feeling good and
:12:23. > :12:28.then the other riders working for that rider or those two riders so
:12:29. > :12:32.presumably Marianne Vos and Kirsten Wild. The rest of the team will
:12:33. > :12:40.presumably launch a flurry of attacks. So much spoken about, the
:12:41. > :12:44.strength of this Netherlands team, strongest we have seen in the
:12:45. > :12:48.history of women's cycling and any one of those riders would be capable
:12:49. > :12:52.of winning but they have the favourite sprinter Kirsten Wild in
:12:53. > :12:57.the peloton. Will they back here for a sprint or try to break this up in
:12:58. > :13:02.the final kilometres? This is one of the fastest sprinters in the
:13:03. > :13:12.peloton. Bastianelli for the Italians. A few outside champions.
:13:13. > :13:20.Lepisto from Finland. Amber Neben taking on a last bottle with 21
:13:21. > :13:23.kilometres to go. Impressive to see her win the individual time trial
:13:24. > :13:29.earlier this week because she has won it in the past but hasn't been
:13:30. > :13:34.so present in the women's peloton in the last few years. She has been
:13:35. > :13:39.around but not in the top of those races, like she was in the past.
:13:40. > :13:43.Like her career was winding down? We would have said she was now the
:13:44. > :13:47.chance for a medal here but she surprised everyone at the age of 41
:13:48. > :13:51.to come back and win the title in the individual time trial this week.
:13:52. > :13:56.She is proving she is in the form of her life,. Carmen Small trying to
:13:57. > :14:05.get back on the rear end of the main field. Following that mechanical
:14:06. > :14:11.issue. Will the Americans have a train leading out Rivera for the
:14:12. > :14:15.sprint? One of the nations that have a fast rider, maybe not a favourite
:14:16. > :14:18.for the sprint, which is why the World Championships is so
:14:19. > :14:22.unpredictable. Winnard the Netherlands is the strongest team
:14:23. > :14:28.and Kirsten Wild is very fast but so many riders could potentially be on
:14:29. > :14:30.the podium or sneak this victory. Australians working hard, putting
:14:31. > :14:38.faith into their sprinter Chloe Hosking. 20 seconds nicer within
:14:39. > :14:40.sight. It would be sensible now for the Australians to wind it back
:14:41. > :14:46.about which I think is what they are doing which is why the bunch is
:14:47. > :14:49.spreading across the road. They are slowing down because they know Amber
:14:50. > :14:53.Neben is in sight. Now it is a question of whether it will be an
:14:54. > :14:56.aggressive race or the teams will resign themselves to the fact it
:14:57. > :15:01.will be a sprint and look after their sprinters? There are some
:15:02. > :15:06.teams here who don't have a sprinter who could win. Three Germans up
:15:07. > :15:18.towards the front. Lisa Brennauer among them. Niewiadoma from Poland.
:15:19. > :15:24.They are all starting to congregate across the road. 20 seconds no Amber
:15:25. > :15:36.Neben less than 19 kilometres away from the finish.
:15:37. > :15:42.There has not been very committed chase from anybody in the peloton
:15:43. > :15:52.but they will feel confident that Amber Neben will be reeled in. As
:15:53. > :15:56.the readout trains and domestiques try to get their leaders in
:15:57. > :16:00.position, the gap is coming down. She will keep the pressure on the
:16:01. > :16:03.pedals for as long as possible to put her team-mates in a good
:16:04. > :16:07.position, and will be see counterattacks from the Americans?
:16:08. > :16:17.Do you get the impression the Dutch will throw the eggs in Kirsten
:16:18. > :16:21.Wild's basket? It appears that way. It appears most of the teams are
:16:22. > :16:24.settling for bunch sprints. If that is not the case then they are going
:16:25. > :16:28.to have to launch attacks now otherwise there will be a bunch
:16:29. > :16:35.sprint. The only way it can break up is if it starts attacking in the
:16:36. > :16:39.next couple of kilometres. Roxane Kneteman, there, from the
:16:40. > :16:47.Netherlands, on the front, having a little look round. Canada with Leah
:16:48. > :16:50.Kirkman as a possibility for them. Couple of her team-mates in the
:16:51. > :16:56.burden of Canada. Dani King still up towards the front, towards the right
:16:57. > :17:00.of your picture. At the business end of the bike race it will be
:17:01. > :17:05.interesting to see what Team GB does, if they will do a lead out for
:17:06. > :17:08.Lizzie Deignan or if they will back one of their younger more
:17:09. > :17:13.inexperienced riders like Hannah Barnes or Alice Barnes for the
:17:14. > :17:16.sprint. Amber Neben sees how close the peloton is coming, taking a
:17:17. > :17:22.drink. She knows what's coming and it is not going to be another gold
:17:23. > :17:26.medal, not today, anyway. Team GB will have to discuss that on the
:17:27. > :17:31.road. They will be discussing who is feeling good, who is going for this.
:17:32. > :17:35.I don't think there will be a natural prerace order of authority.
:17:36. > :17:39.They will say you have to discuss between yourself and be honest with
:17:40. > :17:43.each other. If Lizzie says I feel good, everyone has got to go for it.
:17:44. > :17:47.And if Hannah is feeling good as well, if they both feel good, Lizzie
:17:48. > :17:54.will have to go for it, she is reigning world champion. Sara Roy
:17:55. > :17:59.from Australia is taking on a lot of the work here at the front of the
:18:00. > :18:04.peloton. Van Dijk from the Netherlands on second wheel, she is
:18:05. > :18:08.a rider we may have predicted would take a late attack. But are they
:18:09. > :18:13.riding for Kirsten Wild or will they try to light it up with a flurry of
:18:14. > :18:19.attacks? Been a little crash coming out of that roundabout, there. A
:18:20. > :18:27.ride on the other side of the road from Chinese Taipei. She will be
:18:28. > :18:31.devastated about that if she does not get back to the peloton because
:18:32. > :18:36.she is quite a handy sprinter as well. One you would put on an
:18:37. > :18:39.outside chance of a medal here. Couple of victories in the World
:18:40. > :18:48.Tour race. Asian road race champion as well last year. She is not
:18:49. > :18:55.looking very sprightly, though. No. And it was on the other side of the
:18:56. > :19:01.road. The outside. A crash just missed by one of the British riders
:19:02. > :19:05.as well, there. A real stalemate in the peloton right now. They are all
:19:06. > :19:10.watching each other to see who will do it. Everybody is all being a bit
:19:11. > :19:14.battle worn by the Dutch. Probably quite surprised that now they are
:19:15. > :19:17.sitting there not doing anything which would indicate that they are
:19:18. > :19:23.putting all their eggs in Kirsten Wild's basket. Just trying to see if
:19:24. > :19:28.we can spot Kirsten Wild, one of the taller riders in the peloton, you
:19:29. > :19:32.can normally see her helmet popping up across the top of the peloton.
:19:33. > :19:37.Amber Neben knows her job, and that is to keep going until she is
:19:38. > :19:42.caught. She knows she will be, so it's quite an art, to put yourself
:19:43. > :19:45.through that pain. She has won the world time trial championship two
:19:46. > :19:50.times, she knows how to hurt. And whilst her face looks relaxed, she
:19:51. > :19:54.will be in a world of pain. Yeah, this is a great ride from Amber
:19:55. > :19:59.Neben, but just 24 seconds separate her from this peloton, here. But
:20:00. > :20:06.that looks very much like a peloton preparing itself for a big gallop so
:20:07. > :20:07.blue it does. Only 16.8 kilometres to go, not
:20:08. > :20:15.It is highly controllable. Everybody can dig deep when it gets closer.
:20:16. > :20:21.They've had a calm last 15 or 20 kilometres. All hoping, I guess,
:20:22. > :20:25.that it would stay this way. Now it's going to be a case of getting
:20:26. > :20:35.your team to work, to look after you to the line. You can see one of the
:20:36. > :20:38.sprint favourites up there in fourth position, an indication of feeling
:20:39. > :20:41.good but also being a little bit nervous because you do not see the
:20:42. > :20:47.more experienced sprinters like Lizzie Deignan or Kirsten Wild
:20:48. > :20:52.moving to the front this early with 16 kilometres to go. Chloe Hosking,
:20:53. > :20:55.also from Australia. Now we are talking about the really fast
:20:56. > :21:02.sprinters in this race. What a devastating thing for Bronzini not
:21:03. > :21:08.to be on the starting line, this race would have played into her
:21:09. > :21:12.hands. We are looking at Chloe Hosking, Kirsten Wild, for a sprint?
:21:13. > :21:17.The clear favourite will most likely be Kirsten Wild, she is the Queen of
:21:18. > :21:21.Qatar, this is her style of race, she has a strong team in the Dutch.
:21:22. > :21:24.Lizzie Deignan, you would not put your money on her in a big bunch
:21:25. > :21:29.sprint but she looks very comfortable and she has the World
:21:30. > :21:33.Championship jersey to retain, so anything is possible. The GB team
:21:34. > :21:36.have ridden well and that will give her more confidence. She will like
:21:37. > :21:40.to try to finish it off, even if she is not a pure spin to, she will give
:21:41. > :21:43.this a go and she has definitely got the chance. But the likes of Kersten
:21:44. > :22:04.will, Jolien D'Hoore.. -- the likes of
:22:05. > :22:07.Kirsten Wild. The beauty of the team from the Netherlands, they have so
:22:08. > :22:19.many riders that could potentially win in any circumstances. We have
:22:20. > :22:31.not even mentioned Marianne Vos. Or any of the German riders. They now
:22:32. > :22:35.have Amber Neben insight. One lap remains. A very small gap from Amber
:22:36. > :22:40.Neben back to the peloton, a gap that is about to close very quickly
:22:41. > :22:44.indeed. The smart money now is on a sprint for the line. Lizzie Deignan
:22:45. > :22:50.of Great Britain still in with a chance of defending her world title,
:22:51. > :22:54.but with every passing kilometre, the sprinters get more and more
:22:55. > :22:59.excited that it could be their day. Riders like Chloe Hosking for the
:23:00. > :23:05.United States, Jolien D'Hoore from Belgium, Kirsten Wild of the
:23:06. > :23:09.Netherlands. To name but a few. And Amber Neben Bulls time at the front
:23:10. > :23:16.of the race is now up and those jerseys of the Dutch start to
:23:17. > :23:20.congregate at the front. Is that Ashley Millman from South Africa?
:23:21. > :23:27.Moving across to make sure she can take a bottle. Jolien D'Hoore taking
:23:28. > :23:34.a bottle from Belgium. Very close to the finish for riders to be taking
:23:35. > :23:37.bottles. Chaos again. Breaks were slammed on in that shot, just
:23:38. > :23:46.wondered if there had been an incident but apparently not. Lizzie
:23:47. > :23:50.Deignan. Now there is an attack. The Team GB have had a fine race until
:23:51. > :23:55.this right. Strong attack by Dani King. She has been policing every
:23:56. > :23:58.single move riding at the front. You can see she just pushed her radio
:23:59. > :24:01.into her ear to get some indication from the riders or that team
:24:02. > :24:06.director how this attack is going and it is strong. That all changed
:24:07. > :24:11.very quickly, both on the front of the race and for Amber Neben. Couple
:24:12. > :24:14.of minutes she was leading the world champion should, now she has been
:24:15. > :24:18.spat out the back of the peloton unceremoniously. Dani King of Great
:24:19. > :24:21.Britain is on the front and stretching the field out in the
:24:22. > :24:26.closing climate is with less than 15 to go. Great tactic from Team GB. We
:24:27. > :24:29.have not seen them move the whole race, not even once. They have
:24:30. > :24:34.covered everything, protected the race in a defensive manner. This has
:24:35. > :24:37.obviously been their plan. Splitting it immediately. Forcing the Dutch
:24:38. > :24:42.riders across and this puts Lizzie Armistead in a perfect position, she
:24:43. > :24:46.can sit and follow everything. She realises the danger and is coming
:24:47. > :24:52.across herself. Dani King on the front for Great Britain, causing a
:24:53. > :24:55.bit of panic behind. Yes, that's a really strong attack and you can see
:24:56. > :25:00.how tired everybody is. One massive attack has caused so much damage.
:25:01. > :25:05.Lizzie Deignan is trying to come across on her own, make it to the
:25:06. > :25:13.Swedish rider in between. It might be a Johansson for Sweden. It
:25:14. > :25:18.usually is. On this, the last lap of seven here in Joe Hart in Qatar.
:25:19. > :25:22.This is obviously what Team GB needed to do. Lizzie Deignan does
:25:23. > :25:27.not really come in against those pure sprinters but she can if they
:25:28. > :25:31.make the race really hard, put everybody under stress and fatigue,
:25:32. > :25:36.and that way they can force it and give Lizzie a chance in the sprint.
:25:37. > :25:42.Well, this is a super strong move by Dani King and Team GB. Very, very
:25:43. > :25:46.smart. But everybody under pressure. And amazing form that Dani King has
:25:47. > :25:49.come into. And draw some of the steam from the likes of the other
:25:50. > :25:56.riders as well, just maybe take a little bit of the top bend off the
:25:57. > :26:01.other riders. You can see how tired everybody is. They have had a lap of
:26:02. > :26:05.going steady, letting the domestics right behind Amber Neben. One big
:26:06. > :26:08.attack from Dani King started to rip it all to pieces. So if they start
:26:09. > :26:13.countering again I think we can expect it to split up into small
:26:14. > :26:17.groups. Dani King is doing a great job here. Interestingly she is being
:26:18. > :26:21.marked by riders that ride on the same professional team as her. These
:26:22. > :26:25.are the riders that actually know the real strength of Dani King, and
:26:26. > :26:30.knew that they had to respond to that move. A good ride here by the
:26:31. > :26:33.Eritrean rider, hanging in with the peloton. At the business end of the
:26:34. > :26:41.race. How Great Britain continue to animate once more. Well, that's
:26:42. > :26:44.Hannah Barnes, so that means the rider they are working for is going
:26:45. > :26:52.to be Lizzie Deignan because Hannah Barnes is using upper energy to tire
:26:53. > :26:57.out the peloton. The Dutch kept attacking with GB marking them, and
:26:58. > :27:01.now GB are attacking with the Dutch marking them, so the tactics are
:27:02. > :27:05.clear. Team GB are trying to rip it to pieces to set it up for Lizzie
:27:06. > :27:13.Deignan. Two completely different tactics, one once a small group, the
:27:14. > :27:17.other wants a bunch sprint. Is this Johannson now going? Heavily marked
:27:18. > :27:31.by Lizzie Deignan. Lizzie Deignan straight onto her wheel, and
:27:32. > :27:36.Marianne Vos tries to go. One of the American riders up there and a bit
:27:37. > :27:39.of a gap opening up. Emma Johansson's acceleration puts real
:27:40. > :27:42.pressure on those in the race and Lizzie Deignan was very quick to
:27:43. > :27:48.jump on that and stamp it out. They are free of the best bike riders in
:27:49. > :27:53.the world. And it was Lizzie Deignan and Marianne Vos who responded to
:27:54. > :27:58.Emma Johannson, from Sweden, being the silver medallist in Rio this
:27:59. > :28:05.year. Lizzie Deignan looking so comfortable. Fantastic ride by the
:28:06. > :28:09.South African as well. She will want this race to be tough all the way to
:28:10. > :28:13.the finish, Lizzie. And look at the Dutch. Marianne Vos was in a perfect
:28:14. > :28:17.position to launch a counter attack and didn't, she looked behind, they
:28:18. > :28:22.are riding a defensive and blocking race, whereas Team GB are trying to
:28:23. > :28:26.split it up and make it hard. Now regrouping again as they have fanned
:28:27. > :28:30.out across the road. Just over ten kilometres to go. One of the Dutch
:28:31. > :28:33.riders on the right has a little look at the front but not a major
:28:34. > :28:39.acceleration. Wondered whether there was going to be an attack launched,
:28:40. > :28:42.but not so as it turned out. Further back is Dani King. Now at the back
:28:43. > :28:45.of the peloton. It was a great effort from her couple of minutes
:28:46. > :28:50.ago. Who is on the front? Looked like Marianne Vos. Well, we are
:28:51. > :28:54.looking for Kirsten Wild and she seems to be positioned quite far
:28:55. > :28:57.down the back. That will not be a panic for her because she can move
:28:58. > :29:01.to the front of the peloton quite quickly. Anna van der Breggen on the
:29:02. > :29:10.front. Marked by one of the Finland riders. And Denmark are up there as
:29:11. > :29:13.well. So the Netherlands have enough strong riders to control this all
:29:14. > :29:18.the way to the finish line, which is I think what their plan is. Is that
:29:19. > :29:22.Rivera from the USA in the middle with the dark glasses on? She will
:29:23. > :29:27.be worth watching as well, potentially, isn't she? If it comes
:29:28. > :29:30.down to a sprint, as it may well do. Anna van der Breggen leads them
:29:31. > :29:33.around the latest roundabout. Ten kilometres remaining in the World
:29:34. > :29:38.Championship road race for elite women. And a little bit further
:29:39. > :29:45.back, and a lease from Great Britain. At GB have ridden very,
:29:46. > :29:47.very well, here. They certainly have had a technically brilliant race.
:29:48. > :29:53.And Lizzie Deignan has come into this race with great form, which is
:29:54. > :29:57.quite surprising, after she's had such turmoil, and emotional season,
:29:58. > :30:02.the peak of the Olympic Games. To hold it together, come here and win
:30:03. > :30:06.a world title and back up a few days later to be in really, really top
:30:07. > :30:09.form, really impressive. Hannah Barnes, despite the effort she made
:30:10. > :30:14.a couple of minutes ago, has come up alongside Lizzie now in the main
:30:15. > :30:18.field, up towards the front. As you can see, when the pace is high, they
:30:19. > :30:25.are strung out. The Dutch are not in a bad position here once again.
:30:26. > :30:32.Van der Breggen will just go as long as she can I think. She doesn't have
:30:33. > :30:36.the right faster, she just has to set it at a pace she can maintain
:30:37. > :30:40.flows long as possible and try to put off attacks so people get
:30:41. > :30:44.deterred from doing it because they can see the Olympic champion sitting
:30:45. > :30:53.there. We haven't seen anything from Chloe Hosking which might be a good
:30:54. > :30:57.thing. She is looking quite comfortable. I was on the circuit
:30:58. > :31:00.yesterday and I heard someone coming behind me and it was Tiffany
:31:01. > :31:05.Cromwell with her team-mates on her wheel, just doing a lead out, flying
:31:06. > :31:08.through a roundabout so I have done -- they have done a couple of
:31:09. > :31:12.practice runs and the Australians look comfortable, in the middle of
:31:13. > :31:21.the peloton, Chloe Hosking looking super relaxed. Abby-Mae Parkinson in
:31:22. > :31:29.the front group. Two of our younger riders still at the business end of
:31:30. > :31:34.the race. We will not have to wait too long for the finish now. The
:31:35. > :31:41.tension mounts. Maybe Lisa Brennauer is feeling good as well. Germany are
:31:42. > :31:44.prominent. Lisa Brennauer was there in second wheel and she looks quite
:31:45. > :31:49.relaxed and confident as she has had some good sprints in the past. Trixi
:31:50. > :31:57.Worrack This is Sky News. Coming up: .
:31:58. > :32:16.I think that is Van Vleuten on the front just throwing that bottle
:32:17. > :32:20.away. Didn't see Kirsten Wild on the left-hand side. The Dutch lining
:32:21. > :32:27.themselves up getting ready. They don't need to lead yet. No point Van
:32:28. > :32:30.der Breggen riding on the front and wasting energy when they can use her
:32:31. > :32:34.later on. They will sit there and they just hold that side of the road
:32:35. > :32:38.and protect yourselves and don't let yourself get swamped. Sometimes it
:32:39. > :32:41.is difficult to get all your team-mates together and they have
:32:42. > :32:49.done that. They were like their chances. Look at that, good
:32:50. > :32:55.discipline already having all lined up. Three riders the top 14 in the
:32:56. > :32:59.time trial. They burned a lot of matches early on in the race with
:33:00. > :33:07.the constant attacking but that was indicative of them being so strong.
:33:08. > :33:12.Does Jolien D'Hoore have a strong enough train? She will not be able
:33:13. > :33:16.to rely on her Belgian team-mates when it comes to the final
:33:17. > :33:21.kilometres. She has had some support mentally. That would have been good
:33:22. > :33:23.for Jolien D'Hoore, her mental state, to know her team-mates have
:33:24. > :33:29.worked there today and now it is all up to her by herself. She has one of
:33:30. > :33:33.the most powerful kicks in the peloton says she will be feeling
:33:34. > :33:37.confident as they come into the finish. For a rider with not so many
:33:38. > :33:42.team-mates, it is the fight you have to win before the sprint. The Dutch
:33:43. > :33:51.have a lot of riders around the leader. The radios, this is where
:33:52. > :33:55.they are useful because you can congregate your team-mates and tell
:33:56. > :34:00.them what to do. Kirsten Wild can tell them what she wants from them.
:34:01. > :34:06.It is hard to share that when you don't have the radios without giving
:34:07. > :34:11.away your tactics. Still a big group here. Not far from the finish. I
:34:12. > :34:14.love to see a big, bunched sprint and I am getting quite nervous
:34:15. > :34:22.because this will be an exciting sprint. Dani King with a second
:34:23. > :34:27.wind. She's doing some great work for Lizzie Deignan up towards the
:34:28. > :34:36.front. Massive attacks, we saw the damage it did to the peloton and
:34:37. > :34:41.rightly so. Shows how loyal she is and how professional. She has come
:34:42. > :34:44.straight back up to helplessly. Psychologically a strong showing for
:34:45. > :34:51.the others to deal with. Van dyke on the front of the Dutch train. You
:34:52. > :34:55.know the power they have to bring back anything. Everyone knows their
:34:56. > :34:58.tactic now. They are all in for the sprint. The Italians towards the
:34:59. > :35:09.right of the picture, starting to move forward. White jerseys with
:35:10. > :35:12.blue shorts. Bastianelli, Longo Borghini, riders who could feature
:35:13. > :35:13.towards the end. The Dutch in control of this peloton at the
:35:14. > :35:26.moment. This team on paper, they are strung
:35:27. > :35:28.out, they really aren't the strongest team, everyone said it
:35:29. > :35:35.would take a big mistake for them to be beaten at the will Championships.
:35:36. > :35:41.-- they really are the strongest team. You would have to say Kirsten
:35:42. > :35:47.Wild is the clear favourite. An impressive ride by the Netherlands.
:35:48. > :35:53.Will anyone else tried to muscle their way in here? Anyone have the
:35:54. > :36:00.ability? Not really, all they can do is try to hijack it. They will just
:36:01. > :36:05.be outgunned so they may as well let them do all the work and for the
:36:06. > :36:10.last 800 metres... Italians lining up on the left-hand side. Four of
:36:11. > :36:20.them towards the front. Slowly inching their way to the pointy end
:36:21. > :36:24.of the race. Dani King not giving away, still in the dark glasses in
:36:25. > :36:29.the middle of the picture. What a stint from here. Hannah Barnes as
:36:30. > :36:34.well towards the right at the front. Team GB not quite as disciplined
:36:35. > :36:39.comparing them to the Netherlands and Italy coming up but Lizzie is a
:36:40. > :36:52.cool customer. She will be profiting all of this, all the other teams'
:36:53. > :36:58.work. She doesn't want to put herself in a position where she will
:36:59. > :37:05.be the sprint. I think Lizzie Deignan is just near Dani King at
:37:06. > :37:17.the moment. About 15 or 20 of the position. I think that was where she
:37:18. > :37:22.is. The Dutch looking so strong. 4.4 kilometres to go. It looks like the
:37:23. > :37:25.peloton is nearly just handed it to them. Just hoping they make a big
:37:26. > :37:30.mistake. They really have things under control. They do and we know
:37:31. > :37:37.how strong their riders are and they are riding so disciplined. They look
:37:38. > :37:43.completely in control. We saw the French guys hitting way too early.
:37:44. > :37:52.This is a lead out. Pure textbook at the moment. Four kilometres to go.
:37:53. > :37:58.We are in Doha. The Dutch dominating proceedings, hoping one of their
:37:59. > :38:02.riders can claim the rainbow jersey but Australia now starting to come
:38:03. > :38:05.towards the front, they have got Chloe Hosking in their team and
:38:06. > :38:13.Great Britain working hard also. Lizzie coming up on the left. What a
:38:14. > :38:17.valuable rider in Dani King, she has been there all the way to the
:38:18. > :38:24.finish. An impressively strong ride. Taking on the Dutch. Great stuff
:38:25. > :38:28.from Dani King. GB swamped so they will try to match the Netherlands.
:38:29. > :38:35.They are next to each other drag racing. 3.5 kilometres, Kirsten Wild
:38:36. > :38:40.for the Netherlands and Lizzie Deignan for GB in their looking
:38:41. > :38:42.good. Canadians are in there as well. Australians have dropped back
:38:43. > :38:47.a bit but they were looking good for Chloe Hosking. Then you have got
:38:48. > :38:55.Jolien D'Hoore, trying to get into position. The rider for USA
:38:56. > :39:03.freewheeling in among all the others. Lizzie is now isolated so
:39:04. > :39:09.Dani King did a fantastic job and has now dropped back. She got Lizzie
:39:10. > :39:11.into position. A good position to be in because the train from the
:39:12. > :39:20.Netherlands isn't going to slow down. Is that Marta Bastianelli in
:39:21. > :39:25.there for Italy as well? Marianne Vos taking a look also for Kirsten
:39:26. > :39:30.Wild. Four Dutch riders on the front and Marianne Vos in fourth but
:39:31. > :39:39.Kirsten Wild dropped back. The Dutch team looking for this printer.
:39:40. > :39:46.Lizzie pushing through the middle. She managed to punch out just in
:39:47. > :39:53.time before she got caught up. Always alert to danger. Trixi
:39:54. > :39:58.Worrack working hard for Germany. It is really know with 2.3 kilometres
:39:59. > :40:05.to go. Not even many riders can hold the pace now with the Dutch on the
:40:06. > :40:09.front. Armitstead just beyond... Just behind the four Dutch riders on
:40:10. > :40:14.the right. Giving the Italian rider a little touch with her shoulder.
:40:15. > :40:18.Lizzie Deignan looks very comfortable. She has been so cool
:40:19. > :40:29.and is in a good position with two kilometres to go. Looks like Ellen
:40:30. > :40:33.van Dijk at the front. Marianne Vos third in line and Kirsten Wild
:40:34. > :40:40.fourth. Lotta Lepisto from Finland on her wheel. Lizzie Deignan maybe
:40:41. > :40:46.seventh or eighth. On the right-hand side of the road. Perfect wheel
:40:47. > :40:50.again, being brought up, Italian riders trying to get in the way of
:40:51. > :40:54.the Dutch train. Lizzie currently in a good position but is fighting hard
:40:55. > :41:01.to hold her position. She has to keep pushing her way around. There
:41:02. > :41:07.was nearly crashed. One of the Italian riders did very well to stay
:41:08. > :41:10.upright. That has a panic in the peloton but 1.4 kilometres to go on
:41:11. > :41:16.the Dutch very much in control. They still have four riders lined out, it
:41:17. > :41:21.has been difficult for any riders to come up and match them now the
:41:22. > :41:25.Italians make move. We haven't seen much of the Australians with Chloe
:41:26. > :41:29.Hosking dropping back. She was so confident coming into this. The
:41:30. > :41:36.Australians was work to do but they are not up to the front. Lizzie
:41:37. > :41:42.Deignan still about six on the road. Inside the final kilometre. Lizzie
:41:43. > :41:46.Deignan defending her world crown. She won a year ago in Richmond but a
:41:47. > :41:49.lot to do to make that happen because the Dutch in a great
:41:50. > :41:55.position. Lizzie Deignan working hard to hold the wheel. Sixth in
:41:56. > :42:00.line. It will be hard to beat Kirsten Wild after this display from
:42:01. > :42:05.the Dutch. A textbook finish so far. A couple of hundred metres and they
:42:06. > :42:10.will see the finish line. They are not far away, final few hundred
:42:11. > :42:12.metres. The Dutch in pole position. Lisa Brennauer goes around the
:42:13. > :42:18.outside but the lead looks good for the Dutch. Bastianelli, Lotta
:42:19. > :42:23.Lepisto is there. Lizzie Deignan has fallen away a little bit. Marianne
:42:24. > :42:28.Vos hits the front and here comes Kirsten Wild for the Netherlands. Up
:42:29. > :42:32.towards the front, can she claimed a world title or will she be pipped on
:42:33. > :42:41.the line? It is desperately close on the line. So close. As they crossed
:42:42. > :42:44.the line, it may be Andi Dixon of Denmark, the two time world junior
:42:45. > :42:49.champion who pushed really hard and she may well have pipped the big
:42:50. > :42:59.favourite Kirsten Wild on the line. What a ride from the Danish
:43:00. > :43:03.youngster. Diedrickson has got it. We said she was an outside chance
:43:04. > :43:06.today and that was an impressive sprint. Kirsten Wild will be
:43:07. > :43:13.devastated after that work from the Netherlands. Lizzie Deignan also
:43:14. > :43:22.congratulating this ride, Diedrickson. She is the new world
:43:23. > :43:28.champion, she has got it. Kirsten Wild is second and Lotta Lepisto is
:43:29. > :43:39.third. Lizzie Deignan is fourth just outside the medals. It is all about
:43:40. > :43:46.that rider, and the big favourite Kirsten Wild, we saw her wing the
:43:47. > :43:50.two order Yorkshire and many other titles but in the end, she didn't
:43:51. > :43:56.quite have the legs to get over the line in first place. She's so
:43:57. > :44:05.disappointed. Diedrickson was in outside chance on what defines print
:44:06. > :44:07.is not what a fine sprint. These riders have shown potential all
:44:08. > :44:19.season. The Danish rider seemed to be able
:44:20. > :44:29.to get onto the wheel that everybody wanted. That didn't change much at
:44:30. > :44:44.the finish line. She does it and she fights all the way. There is Lizzie
:44:45. > :44:47.getting up to fourth place. Not many people have the ability to come back
:44:48. > :44:54.Kirsten Wild in a situation like that. She was the world junior
:44:55. > :44:58.champion in 13 and 14. What a step up.
:44:59. > :45:04.She concentrated on the Olympic Games and she was disappointed not
:45:05. > :45:08.to be on the podium in the omnium, but she showed in the last events,
:45:09. > :45:12.especially the points race, that she is a phenomenal athlete, just
:45:13. > :45:16.lapping and lapping the field. Look at her face as she comes up to the
:45:17. > :45:20.line as if to say, I've got this. She looked completely in control,
:45:21. > :45:24.when everybody else was grimacing, she looked relaxed. It is not just
:45:25. > :45:32.being the fastest sprinter, but being so young and being on the
:45:33. > :45:35.favourite's wheel. Lizzie offering congratulations. They ride on the
:45:36. > :45:40.same professional team. I'm sure Lizzie Deignan is not surprised with
:45:41. > :45:50.the performance of digits and to take this title. -- of Dideriksen.
:45:51. > :45:54.She is ecstatic. And diving fourth-place come on a course like
:45:55. > :45:59.this, for Lizzie Deignan, that was a really, really impressive defence of
:46:00. > :46:03.the world title. She has just proven again and again, Lizzie Deignan,
:46:04. > :46:07.that she is just a class, class bike rider. She rises to the occasion.
:46:08. > :46:14.When she puts the number on her back, she just races. She's had a
:46:15. > :46:17.very emotional and difficult season. But just to be still at the end of
:46:18. > :46:23.the season in that kind of fitness level, really a phenomenal
:46:24. > :46:27.performance by the whole GB team, especially Dani King and Hannah
:46:28. > :46:32.Barnes, very impressive today. There we are, that's the new world
:46:33. > :46:37.champion, just 20 years of age, Mali deed Eriksson from Denmark. And
:46:38. > :46:45.there is confirmation of the result. -- Dideriksen of Denmark. Kirsten
:46:46. > :46:46.Wild will be very unhappy with silver, but Lotto the piston will be
:46:47. > :46:58.very happy with bronze. Many congregations, how does it feel
:46:59. > :47:03.to wear that rainbow jersey? It's amazing. I was hoping for top ten.
:47:04. > :47:09.Just to stand here with the jersey is wonderful. My team-mates did such
:47:10. > :47:15.an amazing job. Whole team, only three riders, and they gave me
:47:16. > :47:19.bottles and when I crashed they brought me back. I'd like to say a
:47:20. > :47:23.big thank you to them and I'm just really happy. What were you thinking
:47:24. > :47:30.going into the last few hundred metres? I just wanted to keep
:47:31. > :47:32.Kirsten Wild's wheel, fighting with the other girls, and I thought this
:47:33. > :47:40.could be really good or I would crash. Luckily it went well and I
:47:41. > :47:44.could over Sprint Kirsten Wild in the end. It's crazy. Can you give us
:47:45. > :47:52.an idea of how you feel at this moment? Well at most my feeling is
:47:53. > :47:58.disappointment. I hope to so much for this title, we had such a strong
:47:59. > :48:02.team. And I really hoped to make the finish. Such a strong performance
:48:03. > :48:07.from your team as well, just how were you feeling in those last few
:48:08. > :48:12.hundred metres? We were a bit early, but we had a really good train. A
:48:13. > :48:18.little bit early. Then I felt Dideriksen coming from the left.
:48:19. > :48:22.Very close. And yeah, she was faster. She put in a very strong
:48:23. > :48:27.sprint finish. You had nothing left at the end? Know, otherwise I would
:48:28. > :48:33.have pushed. Do you think the amount of work you had to do as a team took
:48:34. > :48:38.some of your power at the end? Of course, but I think she was just
:48:39. > :48:42.faster. We tried and we had a really good option. I think we had a really
:48:43. > :48:48.good work altogether. But in the end, yeah, it's all about those past
:48:49. > :48:51.few hundred metres. I put myself in permission Giroud position to go for
:48:52. > :48:55.the win. But there was no extra gear to click into and go for it. I'm
:48:56. > :49:00.just incredibly proud of the team, the way they road. When I needed
:49:01. > :49:07.somebody there, young, inexperienced team, but they really rode well. How
:49:08. > :49:11.do you feel to see your year in rainbow come to an end and just
:49:12. > :49:14.missing out on the podium? A medal would have been nice but I'm used to
:49:15. > :49:18.fourth place is in my career. It's part of the sport and it just gives
:49:19. > :49:22.me hunger back for next year. Norway is a perfect course for me and I'm
:49:23. > :49:27.already so excited about it, ridiculously now, with a team like
:49:28. > :49:29.this, that camp due something. Very strong great British team
:49:30. > :49:35.performance, you must be proud of the way the performed to date? Yes,
:49:36. > :49:40.I think everybody did well today. A shame in the end but we have to be
:49:41. > :49:44.proud of the way we rode today. Amazing to see all of us eight girls
:49:45. > :49:47.riding as a team and it bodes well for the future. It will be great to
:49:48. > :49:52.have more of a focus on the women's road team, for sure. And I think we
:49:53. > :49:57.could be really successful. You couldn't have delivered more for
:49:58. > :50:00.Lizzie, strong effort. We really wanted to be up there and
:50:01. > :50:05.aggressive. We knew a lot of teams were happy with a sprint. But we
:50:06. > :50:08.also wanted to be aggressive and try to split the race. We were present
:50:09. > :50:12.in every move that went up the road. We are happy with how we performed,
:50:13. > :50:20.we just don't have anyone that is strong enough to be there at the
:50:21. > :50:23.finish, to sprint that hard. And to see your team-mates take the rainbow
:50:24. > :50:28.jersey, I could see what it meant to her, and nice to see you
:50:29. > :50:31.congratulate in her. She is a super talent and I've seen the work she
:50:32. > :50:34.puts in an she is a very deserving champion. And lovely to see you
:50:35. > :50:39.celebrate with your team-mate, Lizzie Deignan, after the event. Of
:50:40. > :50:45.course she hands you the rainbow jersey. Yeah, it's crazy. I've been
:50:46. > :50:49.team-mates with Lizzie the whole season, and watched her in the
:50:50. > :50:53.jersey. It's so big and I cannot believe it is my now. Well, what a
:50:54. > :50:56.thrill in finish to the elite women's world race here in the
:50:57. > :51:02.sunshine in Qatar in the blistering heat. A fabulous new young world
:51:03. > :51:05.champion. Well yeah, she was definitely an outside chance for a
:51:06. > :51:10.medal and everybody has heard of her, she's had recent results, she
:51:11. > :51:14.is super fast. And especially Lizzie Deignan knows her strength. She was
:51:15. > :51:18.so calm coming into the finish. The Dutch had a textbook finish until
:51:19. > :51:22.the last 50 metres when Dideriksen came off the wheel of Kirsten Wild.
:51:23. > :51:26.She's been junior world champion Baxi race that with such experience
:51:27. > :51:31.to get on the wheel and force her way into the final sprint. That's
:51:32. > :51:34.the thing, some people think you just have to spring fast, but you
:51:35. > :51:38.have to be able to position yourself. We saw how hard Lizzie
:51:39. > :51:42.Deignan was fighting to get into position. Just goes to show her
:51:43. > :51:46.pedigree. Talking to Kirsten Wild, silver medal after such a dominant
:51:47. > :51:50.display from the Dutch, bitterly disappointing for her. Yes, and it
:51:51. > :51:54.will get even more difficult during the evening. Because her team just
:51:55. > :51:57.did an absolutely amazing ride. They were the strongest on paper. And
:51:58. > :52:01.it's hard because she didn't do anything wrong, she was just beaten
:52:02. > :52:07.by a better rider. The Netherlands and custom Wild did everything right
:52:08. > :52:10.but Dideriksen was too strong. You sometimes win a silver medal but she
:52:11. > :52:14.will look back and say she lost the gold? I think so. She was well
:52:15. > :52:21.beaten. The Netherlands wrote a perfect rate, and yet she got pipped
:52:22. > :52:25.on the line by a better rider. And she looked so control in the
:52:26. > :52:30.footage, incredible. What about the British team, full eight riders
:52:31. > :52:33.riding to Lizzie. Very solid performance and they will not be
:52:34. > :52:39.disappointed. Absolutely not, and hats off to the selectors because GB
:52:40. > :52:42.rode a really good race. They control everything and we saw
:52:43. > :52:45.amazing performances from Dani King and Hannah Barnes. The future for
:52:46. > :52:50.British cycling on the road apart from Lizzie Deignan is super. A lot
:52:51. > :52:54.to look forward to from that team? Yes, I think they are a very good
:52:55. > :53:05.team. Such a spectrum of ages as well. And tactically very astute,
:53:06. > :53:10.they road as structured Dunne such a strong unit. Great for today and it
:53:11. > :53:13.bodes well for the future. Next year the world champions roll into
:53:14. > :53:19.Bergen, Ben Innsbruck and in 2019 the circus moves to Yorkshire.
:53:20. > :53:34.In three years' time, 2019, road World Championships of the UCI will
:53:35. > :53:38.be in Yorkshire, Great Britain. Yorkshire has got a great heritage
:53:39. > :53:42.of cycling. Yorkshire is developing and leading cycling in many ways in
:53:43. > :53:48.the UK. It makes absolute sense for us to come to Yorkshire with our
:53:49. > :53:51.flagship event, the UCI World Road Championships. Fantastic for Great
:53:52. > :53:56.Britain and as a Yorkshire and I could not be proud. It will be the
:53:57. > :54:00.biggest sporting event in the UK in 2019. It rounds off a great decade
:54:01. > :54:04.of sport for the country. For Yorkshire, it cements us as one of
:54:05. > :54:07.the site in capitals of the world. Seemed a legacy from the Grand
:54:08. > :54:13.Depart, be toured the Yorkshire rowing in strength. We know people
:54:14. > :54:16.will turn out in their thousands, maybe even millions, to see the
:54:17. > :54:21.events. It's going to be big crowds, I know that. Yorkshire always
:54:22. > :54:24.provides incredible spectators, people how watching the race,
:54:25. > :54:30.roadside, supporting, massive. I read that the race is in Yorkshire.
:54:31. > :54:34.And as always the crowds in Great Britain are amazing, they come out
:54:35. > :54:37.and support. I think it will be such a fantastic World Championships, and
:54:38. > :54:43.one that I'll definitely have my eye on. It is always just immense, and
:54:44. > :54:48.the fans are unbelievable. My years were ringing afterwards. It's hard
:54:49. > :54:51.to even talk to the guy next to you. Having the World Championships there
:54:52. > :54:55.will be incredible. I think it's a great reflection on the UK, that the
:54:56. > :54:58.rest of the world wants to bring its big sporting events here, and
:54:59. > :55:06.greatly Yorkshire because the county has really taken cycling to it's
:55:07. > :55:09.hard. Cycling has just grown and grown and more people want to get
:55:10. > :55:16.involved and watch. It will be a whole mother level. There is the
:55:17. > :55:19.investment in facilities as well, so British cycling will have a
:55:20. > :55:23.nationwide programme of facility development over the next four or
:55:24. > :55:28.five years in and around the world Road Champion ships which makes this
:55:29. > :55:32.even more exciting. I'm a Yorkshire man and you never thought that was
:55:33. > :55:36.going to happen. You never thought the Tour de France would come to the
:55:37. > :55:39.road I grew up on, let alone the World Championships. The temptation
:55:40. > :55:44.of riding World Championships in Yorkshire will be huge. I hope they
:55:45. > :55:48.make a good, hard course I'm a tough Yorkshire woman's course. I'd love
:55:49. > :55:57.it to have some clients, because they are amazing around there. --
:55:58. > :55:59.some climbs. Great Britain is a great cycling nation, this will be
:56:00. > :56:02.the greatest cycling World Championships that there has been
:56:03. > :56:05.stubbly like think it will be sort of something that you remember in
:56:06. > :56:10.your career for a long, long time. It will be amazing to be part of it.
:56:11. > :56:14.Great Britain such a dominant force in world cycling over the last few
:56:15. > :56:19.years, rewarded with the World Championships in 2019, what kind of
:56:20. > :56:22.World Championships can we expect? Ooh, I think it's going to be
:56:23. > :56:26.brilliant. We've seen in the last few years that the UK has become one
:56:27. > :56:29.of the best countries for spectators. In Yorkshire each year,
:56:30. > :56:32.the number of people, equal to the Tour de France if not more.
:56:33. > :56:36.Yorkshire is very much the heartland of where British cycling is from.
:56:37. > :56:41.Always had great professionals and riders from there. It's a bit like
:56:42. > :56:45.it's going home, really, so it's nice. You know the area well, what
:56:46. > :56:48.do you think it will be like? The Tour of Yorkshire this year was
:56:49. > :56:53.overwhelming, I could not believe the amount of spectators and
:56:54. > :56:55.passion. The roads of the course will be absolutely spectacular,
:56:56. > :57:00.fantastic. And the support from everyone in Yorkshire is just
:57:01. > :57:04.amazing. I expect crazy fans everywhere and a really great event.
:57:05. > :57:07.Not going to be one for the sprinters? I doubt it, but it
:57:08. > :57:14.depends what Sir Gary verity decides. I hope it is a good racing
:57:15. > :57:19.course. For me it is equal to the Classics we see in Flanders, maybe
:57:20. > :57:22.even Ansel Gold race, the sort of terrain available. It could make one
:57:23. > :57:27.of the best worlds we've seen in a long time. Plenty of hills in
:57:28. > :57:29.Yorkshire. Yes, and Lizzie Deignan will be super excited about
:57:30. > :57:33.Yorkshire, having the World Championships. I think that will
:57:34. > :57:37.nearly guarantee us that she will continue to cycle, just that
:57:38. > :57:39.motivation of having the World Championships in Yorkshire must be
:57:40. > :57:44.really amazing for Lizzie. You could see what it meant to the riders when
:57:45. > :57:47.we spoke to them this week. We have got loads more cycling coming up.

:58:29. > :58:36.Lizzie Deignan, defending her world crown. Here comes Kirsten Wild, can
:58:37. > :58:42.she claimed the world title or will she be picked on the line? It's
:58:43. > :58:45.desperately, desperately close. It is Dideriksen of Denmark. What a
:58:46. > :58:54.ride from the Danish youngster. That was extraordinary.
:58:55. > :59:07.I mean, for week three, this is amazing. Brilliant!
:59:08. > :59:10.That is the highest score of the series!
