:00:31. > :00:36.Good morning. You weren't expecting us to be on now, and quite frankly,

:00:37. > :00:40.neither were we. After all that torrential rain yesterday and that

:00:41. > :00:43.nerve-jangling, spine-tingling second set involving Andy Murray

:00:44. > :00:47.last night, which isn't complete yet, means there's unfinished

:00:48. > :00:50.business on the second day, the quarter final between Italy and

:00:51. > :01:02.Great Britain. This is how all four ties currently stand:

:01:03. > :01:06.Jo-Wilfred Tsonga lost a long singles last night so France have to

:01:07. > :01:17.win the doubles today. Wawrinka lost his singles yesterday

:01:18. > :01:21.but Federer won and they're not a bad doubles pairing. They link up

:01:22. > :01:26.today in that match against Kazakhstan. Italy have a 1-0 lead

:01:27. > :01:30.against Great Britain because of the match that took place yesterday

:01:31. > :01:37.afternoon, after an extensive rain delay. Fabio Fognini beat James Ward

:01:38. > :01:40.in four sets. At one set apiece, it was anybody's match. In the end,

:01:41. > :01:45.Fognini, one of the world's best players on clay, was just too much.

:01:46. > :01:51.A great shot to win the match. Ward can be really proud of his

:01:52. > :01:55.performance. You made a brilliant start to the

:01:56. > :01:59.first couple of sets, what are your overriding emotions at the end of

:02:00. > :02:03.the match? Disappointment. I don't like losing to whoever you play.

:02:04. > :02:07.Great first three sets, I thought, not just two sets. The fourth set

:02:08. > :02:12.was difficult. He got on top of me early. From there, it was tough to

:02:13. > :02:16.turn it around. But the first three sets were even and the third could

:02:17. > :02:20.have gone to either of us. In the third set in particular, you must

:02:21. > :02:23.have felt if you could have just squeezed that one out, there was a

:02:24. > :02:27.real chance of winning the match. At times, he was beaten himself up a

:02:28. > :02:32.little bit. Of course, you come to expect that. You know how Fabio is.

:02:33. > :02:36.It doesn't really affect his game. He can scream and shout and look

:02:37. > :02:40.like he's not happy, but the next point he's ready. It doesn't really

:02:41. > :02:45.affect him. Cting to play against? Not really. Just because you know

:02:46. > :02:50.what coming. Sometimes it can be quite funny actually. Serious amount

:02:51. > :02:54.of tape on his body too, did he seem restricted to you in any way? I

:02:55. > :02:59.didn't notice, I wasn't looking at what tape he had on. He moved really

:03:00. > :03:05.well. I said before, every drop shot he got up, like ghtning. I didn't

:03:06. > :03:09.notice a a difference. Condition of the court, due feel comfortable --

:03:10. > :03:16.did you feel comfortable playing on it? Yeah, it was fine. It churned up

:03:17. > :03:22.a little bit. It was slow out there. The ball got heavy, as the afternoon

:03:23. > :03:26.got colder, it was definitely heavy and tougher to move. It was the same

:03:27. > :03:30.for both of us. Fast forward to Sunday afternoon, we don't know what

:03:31. > :03:35.the scenario would be, it could be you and Seppi for a place in the

:03:36. > :03:40.semifinals, are you good in -- are you in good shape if it comes to

:03:41. > :03:45.that? Of course, there's a lot of tennis to be played before that.

:03:46. > :03:49.We'll see how Andy does today and we'll go from there. Andy went on

:03:50. > :03:55.court, he won the first set against Andreas Seppi. But the second set

:03:56. > :04:00.was a dinning-dong aware. -- ding-dong affair. Andy Murray

:04:01. > :04:06.managed to save four set points. With that put-away, gave himself a

:04:07. > :04:10.position where they are 5-5 and they will resume in about 20 minutes'

:04:11. > :04:14.time. Play is delayed by half an hour this morning because the court

:04:15. > :04:19.wasn't in good enough condition. The court was the main talking point

:04:20. > :04:22.yesterday. James Ward was very conciliatory there about what he

:04:23. > :04:28.thought the state of it was. His captain was less so afterwards. We

:04:29. > :04:32.expected it to be like this when you reach quarter final stage of this

:04:33. > :04:36.competition. We knew it was going to be a more hostile environment and a

:04:37. > :04:39.more challenging one. It proved to be the case. There were a number of

:04:40. > :04:44.factors that made it more difficult - the weather, the court itself.

:04:45. > :04:48.When you put all those things in the mix, it was a tough day. Very proud

:04:49. > :04:54.of the guys, both James and Andy. They showed huge amount of heart

:04:55. > :04:59.today. Think we stand now, 1-0 down in rubbers, but Andy in charge of

:05:00. > :05:04.the second one. Yeah, I think people probably would have expected that. I

:05:05. > :05:07.thought James an amazingly good job, that's about as well as I've seen

:05:08. > :05:10.him play. When you consider the surface and the opponent and the

:05:11. > :05:15.form of the opponent. Then Andy, he's in a good position now. It was

:05:16. > :05:18.a tough match. It was a heavy, heavy court at end there. Both players

:05:19. > :05:22.struggling to generate a lot of pace. But the quality was really

:05:23. > :05:26.high, a lot of long points, which the crowd enjoyed. I think very

:05:27. > :05:30.physically demanding for both players. Good quality all round and

:05:31. > :05:35.Andy showing why he's such a champion. He had to save four set

:05:36. > :05:39.points there. One set all overnight would look very different to 5-5

:05:40. > :05:44.overnight. How big a deal is that? It's huge. After such a long day and

:05:45. > :05:48.OK, they didn't finish even a second set there, but that was brutal out

:05:49. > :05:51.there with the conditions. You saw what was happening in the court.

:05:52. > :05:54.Every time the players moved wide, it was cutting up. I think it's

:05:55. > :05:58.dangerous. They need to work hard at that to make sure it's safer for the

:05:59. > :06:02.players. It's crucial that Andy actually stays in this second set

:06:03. > :06:05.and I back him to win that now. I think he'll come out and really

:06:06. > :06:11.focus on what to do now. He's had court time with Seppi as well. His

:06:12. > :06:15.avoiding going one set all, will that influence the decision making

:06:16. > :06:22.over the doubles as to whether Andy might play? It could do. Much around

:06:23. > :06:27.that is a waiting game to see how Andy feels. He is our best player.

:06:28. > :06:31.You build that around him. The two doubles players get that and respect

:06:32. > :06:36.it fully. It's a question of making sure we get all the treatment he

:06:37. > :06:40.needs now. Get back to the team room. Hopefully he has a great

:06:41. > :06:45.sleep, wakes up and much will depend on conditions, how he gets on

:06:46. > :06:49.tomorrow, how much the match -- how the match goes against Seppi. Do you

:06:50. > :06:53.see it going all the way? At the end of the day, we have Andy and I think

:06:54. > :06:59.he's the best player here. If Andy feels good and physically is in good

:07:00. > :07:03.enough condition to be able to do what I think he can do, then, you

:07:04. > :07:10.know, there's a chance we could win it beforehand. Then again, it's so

:07:11. > :07:15.close, the environment is definitely making it real 50/50. Their captain

:07:16. > :07:20.said the same. There's not much between it. So probably could go the

:07:21. > :07:25.whole way if I look at it that way. A lot can happen. Tomorrow now

:07:26. > :07:32.becomes a pivotal day. There will be two rubbers at stake. We will wait

:07:33. > :07:37.and see. Leon Smith talking to David Law. They spend the whole time

:07:38. > :07:43.talking like this, because he's very tall. It's like talking to Dominic

:07:44. > :07:46.Inglot, Davis Cup player. And David Lloyd with us as well. Where is the

:07:47. > :07:51.balance of power in the Murray match, how crucial was the game last

:07:52. > :07:56.night? Massive. I think go into the match and it's not one set all right

:07:57. > :08:01.now, it's 5-5. In a tie-break, Murray will be stronger, when Seppi

:08:02. > :08:05.isn't really quite into the match. And if he's 2-0 in sets, he could

:08:06. > :08:10.win the third set. He's fresh enough to play the doubles. How key is it

:08:11. > :08:16.for Murray to win this game, if he can, as quickly as possible, to then

:08:17. > :08:20.aleaf himself -- leave himself enough in the tank for the doubles?

:08:21. > :08:24.If it's a long game, somebody will have to make a decision, presumably

:08:25. > :08:28.Andy himself, that's a redundant question, but that could determine

:08:29. > :08:31.the outcome of the tie. Absolutely. Unfortunately as we know with Andy,

:08:32. > :08:35.he's not an early morning player. He doesn't like starting early. He's

:08:36. > :08:40.got to start quickly today. Obviously... He can be quite a slow

:08:41. > :08:43.starter, even in the evening. That's true too! If he can get through

:08:44. > :08:47.somehow, the second set will be crucial. He's got to come out firing

:08:48. > :08:50.off the bat. If he can get that and win in three strait, he'll play the

:08:51. > :08:54.doubles. If he goes into four or five, I think he'll play doubles

:08:55. > :08:56.either way and win this match. The quicker the better for us to win the

:08:57. > :09:01.quicker the better for us to winthe the tie. Speak to Russell Fuller,

:09:02. > :09:07.our tennis correspondent in Naples for us. The weather, we can see,

:09:08. > :09:14.yesterday you were batoned down under an unbrela -- umbrella, and

:09:15. > :09:21.it's a nicer day. Beautiful today, glorious. The forecast, though I

:09:22. > :09:24.vowed to give up meteorology yesterday, it's sunshine and

:09:25. > :09:29.showers. There was a queue until a few minutes ago, 70 or 80 metres

:09:30. > :09:33.back, full of British fans, about 700 of them have made the journey

:09:34. > :09:37.for this tie. People preparing to come in on a beautiful day, enjoying

:09:38. > :09:43.the sunshine. Short sleeves and shorts as well. A sense of optimism

:09:44. > :09:48.that not only can Britain take the initiative in this tie today, but

:09:49. > :09:50.that we will get a full day's play. The forecast tomorrow is excellent

:09:51. > :09:53.too. If the showers avoid us this afternoon, there's every chance we

:09:54. > :09:57.will be back on track by close of play. You were discussing with your

:09:58. > :10:01.press colleagues last night, in a restaurant in Naples, how important

:10:02. > :10:04.that last game was last night for Andy Murray to get things all

:10:05. > :10:12.square, what was the general consensus? Well, I think that Great

:10:13. > :10:18.Britain are strong enough nowadays to have been able to resist the

:10:19. > :10:21.obvious momentum bounce Seppi winning the second set would have

:10:22. > :10:26.given the Italians. But it's the fact that Murray knows then he would

:10:27. > :10:29.have had to play at least two sets this morning and there would have

:10:30. > :10:34.been repercussions for the doubles this afternoon. Leon Smith was

:10:35. > :10:38.hedging his bets in that interview. He's clear that Andy Murray is the

:10:39. > :10:42.number one player and he will play the doubles, unless, perhaps, he

:10:43. > :10:45.plays three more sets and a bit today and decides that physically

:10:46. > :10:51.it's unwise to play the doubles, ahead of playing Fabio Fognini in

:10:52. > :10:54.potentially the decisive tie at 10. 30am tomorrow or maybe he's feeling

:10:55. > :11:00.the after-effects of the virus he had earlier in the week. Otherwise,

:11:01. > :11:04.I'm sure Murray will play. It's touch on Ross Hutchins, he knows the

:11:05. > :11:10.score. He has to prepare for a match. He's Colin Fleming's regular

:11:11. > :11:15.doubles partner. Buff he plays -- but he plays second fiddle to Murray

:11:16. > :11:21.if he's firing. What state is the court in today? They made some

:11:22. > :11:27.running repairs to it this morning. A lot of rain leaked off the covers

:11:28. > :11:31.yesterday when they were removing those covers. It cost about an

:11:32. > :11:37.hour-and-a-half in play. It probably was the firchs between -- difference

:11:38. > :11:41.between finishing Murray's match yesterday. It was farcical the way

:11:42. > :11:44.they tried to remove the covers with so much standing water still on

:11:45. > :11:48.them, it just was impossible to get the court in the condition they

:11:49. > :11:53.would want to. They brought all this dry clay on to soak up the moisture.

:11:54. > :12:00.That ments, at times, it -- meant, at times, it felt more like a

:12:01. > :12:04.long-jump pit. Leon Smith felt it was dangerous at times. They have

:12:05. > :12:07.worked hard this morning, hence the later start time. It's looking

:12:08. > :12:12.better. The sun is now doing its job too. That is crucial. It will be

:12:13. > :12:16.fairly slow to start, but I think as the day goes on, if the rain stays

:12:17. > :12:21.away, there's a good chance we will see a truer clay court surface today

:12:22. > :12:26.and for the reverse singles on Sunday. Very much. Can you see from

:12:27. > :12:30.that big, wide angle, they've created a fantastic arena there are

:12:31. > :12:33.one side of the court decked out in the Italian flag and the other in

:12:34. > :12:40.the Union flag and it looks terrific. We could see the Isle of

:12:41. > :12:44.Capri in the distance. In terms also just of the crowd, because you were

:12:45. > :12:47.alluding to this last night, we are going to show the last game of

:12:48. > :12:50.Murray's game last night in a moment, the crowd can be a key

:12:51. > :12:56.factor here in Davis Cup, in the way that it isn't almost in any other

:12:57. > :12:58.aspect of tennis. It can and the Italians are ferocious away from

:12:59. > :13:03.home. I've thought in the first match yesterday with James Ward,

:13:04. > :13:07.they were a bit muted. The crowd was half full, because of the weather. A

:13:08. > :13:11.lot of people probably thought the match wouldn't happen. It got louder

:13:12. > :13:15.when Andy Murray came on. Andy stirred them up when he started

:13:16. > :13:18.getting down on himself. If you get ratty with the Italian crowd, they

:13:19. > :13:24.got on your back more. For Andy, it's OK. Not so sure it will be so

:13:25. > :13:27.good for Colin in the doubles because they're maybe not as

:13:28. > :13:31.experienced. The crowd can play a factor. We were discussing whether

:13:32. > :13:35.playing against the crowd would inspire Andy, but almost, as we come

:13:36. > :13:38.on to show the last game, it almost seemed he had to control himself. It

:13:39. > :13:42.was almost as though he was allowing the crowd to beat him at one stage

:13:43. > :13:46.in that second set. Absolutely, you don't need to give the crowd any

:13:47. > :13:50.extra incentive to get on you. He was doing that by getting a little

:13:51. > :13:55.bit upset with himself. So, he really had to focus. He knew that as

:13:56. > :13:59.well as that, he didn't want to go down that set. To make it all 5-5 in

:14:00. > :14:02.the second, that was big for the team. Let's show you the last game

:14:03. > :14:07.that took place last night. We weren't expecting to be on air at

:14:08. > :14:10.6pm on BBC Two last night, but because everything was delayed, we

:14:11. > :14:16.had a fantastic teatime drama, the kind of thing we've been used to at

:14:17. > :14:20.Wimbledon over the years, with first Tim Henman and then Andy. Andy

:14:21. > :14:22.Murray was serving to stay in the second set and it went on and on and

:14:23. > :15:06.on. Either way there will be some

:15:07. > :15:11.singles action tomorrow, to go with the doubles.

:15:12. > :16:49.That's a big mistake here. Oh, he's miss today! Worked so hard

:16:50. > :16:53.during the point. That was a very late decision from him to hit the

:16:54. > :16:56.drop shot. Again, he noticed he would have to have that low

:16:57. > :17:01.forehand. Heaves thinking, I can't do that much with this -- he's. He

:17:02. > :17:41.left that late to decide to hit the drop shot.

:17:42. > :17:46.Maybe another late change of mind, possibly. He's got to be so careful

:17:47. > :17:50.here. Crowd aren't so sure. But the line

:17:51. > :18:20.judge was. It's out. Game point Murray to level

:18:21. > :18:39.at 5-5. Surely that will be that for the night.

:18:40. > :19:56.He really pulled up there. That didn't look good.

:19:57. > :20:06.He's complaining he can't see the ball.

:20:07. > :20:16.This could be the last point of the day's play.

:20:17. > :20:28.Good serve. That's the serve he normally goes to.

:20:29. > :21:17.That's his favourite serves by miles.

:21:18. > :21:21.These guys, despite being seasoned pros, are very tired right now. They

:21:22. > :21:53.know how much rests on this point. Oh, that was a tight looking

:21:54. > :21:54.forehand. He really pulled off that one, middle of the net. That's a

:21:55. > :22:01.sign of nerves. He was in a good position here. That

:22:02. > :22:10.is a tight looking forehand. No body turn whatsoever. It was all

:22:11. > :23:20.just arm. Oh, these points. I'm getting tight

:23:21. > :23:24.watching it. This is really, I mean, if you have any kids watching at

:23:25. > :23:27.home and you've played this kind of rallies, crosscourt, down-the-line

:23:28. > :23:32.for as long as you can, that's the reason you do these drills, so you

:23:33. > :23:33.don't break down when you come to pressure situations. Eventually

:23:34. > :24:16.someone has to. My goodness. What a volley. Judy looking on

:24:17. > :24:21.there, was she? He had to see that one pretty well. He said he can't

:24:22. > :24:25.see. This one came at him fast. That was perfect technique. That was a

:24:26. > :24:31.difficult volley. He used his legs well there. He does, gets down well.

:24:32. > :24:55.Racquet out in front. Eyes close to the ball.

:24:56. > :25:02.Oh, Seppi's broken off on the point. He's got to be sure here. He's got

:25:03. > :25:08.to be sure that it's wide and a double fault. It's close. It's a

:25:09. > :25:14.double fault! Oh, my goodness. What drama late in the day in Naples.

:25:15. > :25:21.Wow. Murray to his eternal credit accepts the call and doesn't take it

:25:22. > :25:24.any further. That is gutsy to stop a point mid-point. Especially as he

:25:25. > :25:30.said he can't see. That is gutsy. He's getting nervous too. He wants

:25:31. > :25:47.out. Well done Murray. I mean, our

:25:48. > :25:51.nerves, your nerves at home and the umpire's nerves, what about that,

:25:52. > :25:57.saving all these set points. Seppi was waiting for the backhand there.

:25:58. > :26:00.He was surprised by the forehand. I don't think he's missed a first

:26:01. > :26:53.serve on the break points. Oh, he's dug out that point, Murray!

:26:54. > :26:56.Now he's got a game point. It had to happen, that almost

:26:57. > :27:01.certainly the final game of the day turns out to be one of the longest

:27:02. > :27:10.games of the day. And the best game of the day. Absolutely right.

:27:11. > :28:17.Oh, yes! Andy Murray stylishly moving to 5-5 in the second set.

:28:18. > :28:21.That will be it for the day. Racquet into the bag.

:28:22. > :28:24.STUDIO: It was almost just as agonising watching it a second time.

:28:25. > :28:32.There Andy Murray one set to the good and 5-5 in the second. This was

:28:33. > :28:37.him practising on one of the outside courts at the magnificent Naples

:28:38. > :28:41.tennis courts. It's reminiscent of Monte Carlo. He and his opponent,

:28:42. > :28:45.Andreas Seppi will be on court shortly. Big names have been in

:28:46. > :28:49.action over the course of the last 24 hours in these quarter finals in

:28:50. > :28:54.the Davis Cup, not least Roger Federer, who raz won something of a

:28:55. > :28:57.-- who was on a salvage mission after Stanislas Wawrinka lost the

:28:58. > :29:01.first rubber against Kazakhstan. The winner of this tie will play the

:29:02. > :29:07.winner of Italy against Great Britain. Here's Federer beating

:29:08. > :29:12.Kukushkin in straight sets. That's 1-1 going into the doubles. Federer

:29:13. > :29:26.and Wawrinka play doubles today. This is the biggest upset so far,

:29:27. > :29:30.Jo-Wilfred Tsonga losing an epic five-setter against the German. That

:29:31. > :29:34.means it's only seven times in the history of the Davis Cup has a

:29:35. > :29:37.country come back from 2-0 down to win a tie. The odds are firmly

:29:38. > :29:41.against Germany there. Can you see at the top of the caption, the Czech

:29:42. > :29:45.Republic, the defending champions are through already after victory in

:29:46. > :29:48.the doubles today against Japan in Tokyo. They are the first of the

:29:49. > :29:53.semifinalists to be decided. I mention that it's a real, real

:29:54. > :29:57.rarity in Davis Cup to come from 2-0 down to win it. France are very much

:29:58. > :30:00.up against. It that's why it's almost impossible to overestimate

:30:01. > :30:07.how important it is for Andy Murray to square things up today. It's

:30:08. > :30:11.huge. I think Germany, France might come back to win that 3-2. Having

:30:12. > :30:20.said that, that's the beauty of Davis Cup. You get people ranked

:30:21. > :30:27.over 100, and they beat a player like Tsonga. Against a huge French

:30:28. > :30:30.crowd. We saw James Ward yet in three sets going up against the

:30:31. > :30:36.number 13 in the word. It's what Davis Cup is all about. That doesn't

:30:37. > :30:43.alter the fact that Andy Murray has to make this one apiece because then

:30:44. > :30:46.the pressure is almost insurmountable. Andy will be able to

:30:47. > :30:50.come through, I think. There's still the doubles. The boys can get the

:30:51. > :30:54.job done. There hopefully, we'll see a 2-1 lead by the end of the day. I

:30:55. > :30:58.think Andy is heading towards the court at the moment with his

:30:59. > :31:03.captain, Leon Smith. What will Andy have - would will he have sought

:31:04. > :31:08.advice, perhaps the wrong word, but thoughts of over the course of the

:31:09. > :31:16.last 12 hours or so? Does he, in the current mode of Andy Murray, does he

:31:17. > :31:20.talk to his mum? Would he have run Lendl last night, what will he have

:31:21. > :31:25.done? I don't think lendle would have come into it. I think his mum

:31:26. > :31:33.probably. They would have had a general conversation. The important

:31:34. > :31:37.thing is he's a quick -- he needs a quick start. When you've won two

:31:38. > :31:41.grand slams, you don't need that much. It's just the obvious little

:31:42. > :31:44.things just to keep him going, get ready for tomorrow. He looks very

:31:45. > :31:48.calm and relaxed and smiling away there in the sunshine, I have to

:31:49. > :31:52.say. Would you rather be serving or receiving in this situation, first

:31:53. > :32:01.game? It depends. Me personally, I would like to be serving. No

:32:02. > :32:04.kidding! 150mph! For normal people, what would they like? They might

:32:05. > :32:08.like to return first because they want to get their eye in. Even if

:32:09. > :32:11.they lose that game, they have a bit of groundies under the belt, take it

:32:12. > :32:16.into their service game. You don't want to be too cold and if you get

:32:17. > :32:19.broken, it could be end of set already. Again, it depends on who

:32:20. > :32:23.you are, I think Andy maybe would like the fact that he's returning

:32:24. > :32:28.first. I agree with that. I think he'll be peppering the Seppi

:32:29. > :32:32.forehand awes much as possible early on. His forehand goes when he gets

:32:33. > :32:36.tired. We saw that yesterday. I'd be surprised if Andy doesn't pepper

:32:37. > :32:41.that as much as he can in the first couple of games. Was extraordinary

:32:42. > :32:46.confidence or amazing hand-eye coordination for Seppi to stop a

:32:47. > :32:54.point on "Second serve at deuce and 4-5. In dark light. He couldn't see

:32:55. > :32:58.the ball any way. Remarkable. I thought he'd messed up to be honest.

:32:59. > :33:02.We were watching obviously, but I thaut he'd messed that up. It would

:33:03. > :33:07.have been amazing if he had done. See Leon Smith there. You've been

:33:08. > :33:11.part of this squad, I'm sure when Leon Smith got the job, a lot of

:33:12. > :33:15.people, with all due respect to him, John you were a very high-profile

:33:16. > :33:20.player and a high-profile individual, when you were Davis Cup

:33:21. > :33:24.captain, everybody knew about you. When Leon Smith got the job, a lot

:33:25. > :33:30.of people within tennis, never mind people outside the sport, went "who?

:33:31. > :33:35.". What does he bring to the team ethic? He brings a sense of unity to

:33:36. > :33:39.the team. He's good at keeping the guys together as a team, bringing

:33:40. > :33:43.them in. As tennis players we're all very individual. We focus on

:33:44. > :33:47.ourselves. He does a very good job of bringing this team together,

:33:48. > :33:51.unifying it so that we're working towards the same goal for each

:33:52. > :33:56.other. That's one of his strengths. What did you regard, if you had

:33:57. > :34:01.three things that Davis Cup captain has to do, has to be good at, what

:34:02. > :34:03.did you feel they were? Well, you've obviously got to have a good

:34:04. > :34:07.relationship with the players. You've got to be able to read the

:34:08. > :34:10.players. It's an individual sport. Going back to Leon, why it was a

:34:11. > :34:14.good decision at the time, certainly, it's proved to be a very

:34:15. > :34:18.good decision, was that he was head of British tennis then. The younger

:34:19. > :34:24.players coming up... Knew him. And he was going to be with them on the

:34:25. > :34:30.off weeks at the NTC training centre. Another player like Greg

:34:31. > :34:35.Rudsedski, was in the mix, but if you don't spend the time, you have

:34:36. > :34:38.no chance. If you can spend 30 weeks with them, rather than ten, as I

:34:39. > :34:41.had, makes more sense, with younger players. If you have high

:34:42. > :34:45.international players, then the need is not so great, because they're

:34:46. > :34:50.pros. They have been there and done. It they don't need a coach as much.

:34:51. > :34:54.For the younger players, Leon has been around and knows them inside

:34:55. > :34:58.out. It's proved to be a very good signing. We've seen from Germany

:34:59. > :35:03.being 2-0 up against France, with their coach, who we suspect is a

:35:04. > :35:07.German equivalent of Leon Smith, if you catapoult in a big name from

:35:08. > :35:10.outer space and say take over the Davis Cup team, that's not

:35:11. > :35:13.necessarily the best way of operating. No doubt. As you said,

:35:14. > :35:17.you want to have a very close bond with the team and that's what Leon

:35:18. > :35:21.has. You see him at a lot of tournaments. He comes to a lot of

:35:22. > :35:26.the grand slams and Masters series. He will be on your practice court,

:35:27. > :35:29.no matter who you are, and what time you're practising. He is there to

:35:30. > :35:32.help out, if he can. That means that you want to then go on and win for

:35:33. > :35:37.him, not only for your country, but him as well. You want to contact us

:35:38. > :35:41.during the course of this morning and the afternoon, when the doubles

:35:42. > :35:45.starts at 1pm, live on BBC One, that's your Saturday afternoon

:35:46. > :35:50.entertainment, go to the BBC Sport website or the app. If you want to

:35:51. > :35:56.contact us in terms of opinions that you have, what's happening at the

:35:57. > :35:59.moment, then we have a Twitter feed. It is a Saturday, we are aware that

:36:00. > :36:03.you have a life to lead, and you can't sit in front of the television

:36:04. > :36:09.all day, so if you are going to go off and take the kids to sport or do

:36:10. > :36:13.the shopping or going to do household utility work, then you can

:36:14. > :36:18.watch or listen to radio five, Radio 5 Live or the BBC website, because

:36:19. > :36:22.across the day and it could be a long, old day as well, you don't

:36:23. > :36:25.have to miss anything. So, our prediction, we don't normally do

:36:26. > :36:29.this, as they're about to get under way, what's your prediction at this

:36:30. > :36:34.stage, John, for what the state of play will be come teatime tonight? I

:36:35. > :36:38.think we'll be up 2-1. Murray could lose this second set. Because it's a

:36:39. > :36:42.toss up. It's Russian roulette with two games to go. I think he'll win

:36:43. > :36:46.in four or five. He may win in three straight and we'll win the doubles,

:36:47. > :36:50.if he plays, which I think he will. I agree. I think he's going to win

:36:51. > :36:54.the singles, agreed. I think he'll play the doubles. If he does, that

:36:55. > :36:58.gives us a very good chance in the doubles. A grow with John, it's

:36:59. > :37:02.going to be 2-1 by the end of the day. On that supremely optimistic

:37:03. > :37:06.note, we hand over to our commentator, who was getting very

:37:07. > :37:11.excited last night at the, as that second set drew to a close. I'm sure

:37:12. > :37:16.he's calmed a bit and is building himself up for a tumultuous climax

:37:17. > :37:22.today. Thank you John, good morning, good

:37:23. > :37:25.morning everybody. I've watched too many Andy Murray matches over the

:37:26. > :37:28.years not to get excited. You know what's coming. And you love it. We

:37:29. > :37:32.all love, it don't we? Sitting through it and hopefully, like the

:37:33. > :37:35.boys say, there's going to be a positive outcome. At the end of the

:37:36. > :37:40.day, despite the drama of yesterday, Murray can still win this match in

:37:41. > :37:44.straight sets. He can still get it done emphatically. That would get

:37:45. > :37:49.Britain, not just back into the tie, but to set them up perfectly for

:37:50. > :37:52.this afternoon's doubles, which will be live on BBC One this afternoon

:37:53. > :37:59.from 1pm. There's the Italian captain. Maybe a little short on

:38:00. > :38:07.shut eye by the look of things. But it was a long day, long, hard day

:38:08. > :38:13.yesterday. A man who has played 61 ties for his country, 32 ties, I beg

:38:14. > :38:18.your pardon, he's 61 years of age. His Davis Cup career lasted between

:38:19. > :38:23.1972 and 1984 as a player, whereas this man, Leon Smith, never played

:38:24. > :38:28.Davis Cup, in fact, he never played tennis at all to any sort prove

:38:29. > :38:33.fegsal standard. Quite rare, in that regard, coming in at this high level

:38:34. > :38:38.as a coach, but worked with Andy Murray from the age of 11. Right

:38:39. > :38:40.through to the junior ranks as well. Now he's very much the man in charge

:38:41. > :38:53.of men's tennis in Great Britain. Absolutely wonderful setting, isn't

:38:54. > :39:00.it? Anyone fancy jetting off there tonight?

:39:01. > :39:06.The forecast suggested it would be a bit grim in Naples this morning, but

:39:07. > :39:13.the sunshine of the last few days has returned. Yesterday was, at this

:39:14. > :39:20.time, terrible. Rain coming down and the prospect of thunder and

:39:21. > :39:25.lightning as well. I thought it was really impressive yesterday from

:39:26. > :39:28.Andy Murray for a number of reasons. Obviously, he has a decent opponent

:39:29. > :39:33.in Andreas Seppi on the other side of the net. But the previous day, on

:39:34. > :39:37.Thursday, he wasn't able to practice at all. He was in bed with a stomach

:39:38. > :39:41.virus, which he seems to be over, at least, but wasn't able to take to

:39:42. > :39:45.the practice court until the evening of the night before his match.

:39:46. > :39:48.Also consider the fact that this is a swift change of surface for him.

:39:49. > :39:53.He's been playing in North America on the hard courts. To start a clay

:39:54. > :40:00.court season, which he normally would do in Monte Carlo, it's always

:40:01. > :40:04.a tricky time of year, switching between surfaces. Now he'll be on

:40:05. > :40:12.clay right through until the end of the French Open.

:40:13. > :40:17.Time. All these clay courts are different. No two are the same.

:40:18. > :40:21.Thankfully this one seems to have dried out a bit around the edges.

:40:22. > :40:26.But that little corner, just to the right of Murray, the bottom

:40:27. > :40:28.right-hand corner of the court was very sodden and was getting dug up

:40:29. > :40:43.quite a bit yesterday. We can only say to you: Settle in

:40:44. > :40:47.and enjoy because this is Davis Cup and it doesn't happen often. And it

:40:48. > :40:51.certainly doesn't happen often that we're able to watch Great Britain in

:40:52. > :41:00.a world group quarter final. A couple of years ago we were in the

:41:01. > :41:06.euro/African nedgeer regions -- nether regions, zone two. Not many

:41:07. > :41:13.of those people were in Lithuania in that snow-bound weekend then. This,

:41:14. > :41:18.a much more hospitable setting. Nice town, though. I know you didn't

:41:19. > :41:22.enjoy that weekend John. None of us did. But it's a nice town. Very

:41:23. > :41:27.pretty. But happy to leave it. We had a few decent nights out, I

:41:28. > :41:36.recall. Here we are in the home of the pizza. Naples, Italy.

:41:37. > :41:42.This man is Andreas Seppi. He's the Italian number two singles player.

:41:43. > :41:47.He's been as high as 18 in the world. He won a string of five-set

:41:48. > :42:02.matches on the tour last year. Never count him out.

:42:03. > :42:10.Morning, John. Morning, Dominic. Lovely conditions, much better than

:42:11. > :42:15.yesterday. Yes. An exciting day today.

:42:16. > :42:42.Straight in right at crunch time of a match.

:42:43. > :42:47.This is not the start that Seppi wanted. He knows how important this

:42:48. > :42:52.set is to his chances of winning this match. To be honest, I don't

:42:53. > :42:54.think he has any chance if he lose that's set. This is not what he

:42:55. > :43:50.would have wanted to start, it's so crucial that he holds this game.

:43:51. > :43:57.Didn't look like a bad bounce. But you will always do that if you

:43:58. > :44:26.mis-hit a ball. You can't blame yourself, surely not!

:44:27. > :44:32.Good point you made yesterday, though, often you do get bad bounces

:44:33. > :44:38.on a clay court. But sometimes you don't realise it, because these

:44:39. > :44:41.players are so skilful they can make last-minute adjustments. Absolutely,

:44:42. > :44:45.they are prepared mentally for that. They know going into the clay, it's

:44:46. > :44:48.not a hard court. You will get bad bounces. They have to prepare their

:44:49. > :44:49.bodies, in the best way that they can, because they know it's going to

:44:50. > :45:08.happen. Andreas Seppi has just settled

:45:09. > :45:12.himself in pretty quickly. He needed to. First two points were a bit

:45:13. > :45:15.dodgy. Then a long third point and I'm sure that gave him a little bit

:45:16. > :45:39.more feel going into the following points.

:45:40. > :46:02.Murray was 4-2 down in this set yesterday.

:46:03. > :46:10.The court's at it again. That's going to do a lot of good. I'm

:46:11. > :46:18.surprised they don't have a roller and roll it till the cows come home,

:46:19. > :46:21.make it as firm as possible. That's pretty bad. That's very close

:46:22. > :46:48.to the baseline as well, where it's going to be massively used up.

:46:49. > :46:54.Right then, first game of the day and after saving all those set

:46:55. > :46:59.points yesterday, now Murray has a break point.

:47:00. > :47:08.Thanchts was an awful -- that was an awful forehand. It's those low

:47:09. > :47:12.forehands that he really struggled with. That's something that James

:47:13. > :47:16.Ward, if he plays him, should try to use.

:47:17. > :48:12.Well, you have to give the Italian credit there. Threading the needle

:48:13. > :48:19.on two big ground strokes, in a row. This is the first one, fabulous

:48:20. > :48:24.backhand. That was just inside the line, on the second. Break point

:48:25. > :48:44.down, about to lose the second set. That was gutsy.

:48:45. > :48:55.What a shot from Murray! He's taken a tumble down there. But he has

:48:56. > :49:02.leathered that forehand. This court is ridiculous, really.

:49:03. > :49:05.What's going on says Murray. He's absolutely right. He's got a

:49:06. > :49:09.break point. Bup it's the same corner -- but it's the same corner

:49:10. > :49:14.of the court they had so many problems with yesterday.

:49:15. > :49:20.What a shot that was. That forehand was an unbelievable shot.

:49:21. > :49:30.The return wasn't bad either. That's definitely, if you didn't have the

:49:31. > :49:35.air cast on right there, that would have been the end of ankle for sure,

:49:36. > :49:39.a twisted ankle, no doubt. You shouldn't have to wear ankle braces

:49:40. > :50:09.on a court if you didn't want to. You're expecting a court to be fine.

:50:10. > :50:17.Oh! Well the quality of tennis just picking up today from where it left

:50:18. > :50:20.off yesterday. That's two big break points he's played there. Think

:50:21. > :50:23.about how well you have to hit it into the corners on break points

:50:24. > :50:26.otherwise you're going to be a break down, possibly 2-0 down, he stepped

:50:27. > :50:38.up. Credit to Seppi there. It's what Murray does to you. He

:50:39. > :50:51.forces you to go for balls close to the line.

:50:52. > :51:06.That shot could win him the set here. That was remarkable. Looks

:51:07. > :51:10.like there's only one winner of this rally from this position. When a

:51:11. > :51:31.change of pace there, beautiful disguise.

:51:32. > :51:39.You could hear him winding up for that winning forehand. It's the shot

:51:40. > :51:44.that takes Britain 6-5 up with a break in the second set.

:51:45. > :51:48.What a body blow this was to the Italian. He couldn't have played a

:51:49. > :51:54.better game, there once he'd got back from 0-30. He still ended up

:51:55. > :51:58.losing it. That's right. If you think about the points that he lost

:51:59. > :52:03.at the end there, he got beaten by an unbelievable lob. Beaten by a

:52:04. > :52:07.great forehand, big shot down the middle, which he wasn't expecting.

:52:08. > :52:15.As you said, he didn't do a lot wrong there at the end and still

:52:16. > :52:18.ends up losing. Over the course of last night and

:52:19. > :52:24.this morning, Murray has now won four of the last five games. That

:52:25. > :52:29.looks dominant on the score card, but it's beening in but. All those

:52:30. > :52:33.-- it's been anything but, all those games have been tight. That's what

:52:34. > :52:36.separates the great players, you know the big points, the points that

:52:37. > :52:42.really matter, they come through 90% of the time. That's why they are

:52:43. > :52:46.where they are. They just know how instinctively to hit the shots on

:52:47. > :52:52.the big points. How to play. Remarkable nerve that Murray showed

:52:53. > :52:58.there. Also in contrast to - you know

:52:59. > :53:02.normally Andy is known as a slow starter. He came out of the blocks

:53:03. > :53:05.firing. We'd love to see that at the beginning of sets more often, when

:53:06. > :53:09.he's playing a normal first set. It's great to see that he's doing

:53:10. > :53:10.that and can consolidate the break and can take himself into the third

:53:11. > :54:35.set with a 2-0 lead. Just no way through for Seppi.

:54:36. > :54:38.Murray setting up a total road block there.

:54:39. > :54:41.Impossible to break down. Looking very strong at the back of the

:54:42. > :54:46.court. He knows when to hit them nice,

:54:47. > :54:50.high, heavy. He knows when to take a little extra time away from Seppi.

:54:51. > :56:16.Seppi has no answers at the moment. This is wonderful tennis we are

:56:17. > :56:21.watching right now! It really does not get much better than theirs. An

:56:22. > :56:26.extraordinary point, well worked from both players. A good approach,

:56:27. > :56:35.and he hit that drop volley from the service box there. This is a very

:56:36. > :56:40.tough shot, and Seppi cars round the edge of the ball. He made it look

:56:41. > :58:16.easy. The balance on the volley there was exceptional.

:58:17. > :58:26.Very well played, Andreas Seppi. Really playing his part there. A

:58:27. > :59:11.memorable Davis cup ties. Brilliant!? That well. He went so

:59:12. > :59:17.early to cover the line and he read it perfect. That was a backhand

:59:18. > :59:21.volley there from Andy Murray. He pushed this volley, this one here,

:59:22. > :59:28.and he just steered it got away from it. Very good anticipation on the

:59:29. > :59:32.next ball. He left that crosscourt wide-open, but he said that he reads

:59:33. > :59:45.the game extremely well. He did it there.

:59:46. > :59:52.Andy Murray is having his usual trick of wanting the same ball back

:59:53. > :00:14.and he's not they have got it. Set point again.

:00:15. > :00:26.I can't believe it. That is the second double fault in this game.

:00:27. > :00:40.The Italian crowds doing whatever they can to try to put off Andy

:00:41. > :00:46.Murray by booing him. Good luck with that!

:00:47. > :00:58.Great serve there. He actually took the pace of the serve to try to get

:00:59. > :01:03.the width on it. Sometimes you don't need a powerful cert if you place it

:01:04. > :01:36.perfectly. You can hit the ball at 100 mph and it is an ace every time.

:01:37. > :01:46.That is it. That is the set that Andy Murray so badly wanted.

:01:47. > :01:55.What a set of tennis it was. The last format games, the whole series

:01:56. > :01:58.of break points, game points, set points, double points, getting stuck

:01:59. > :02:07.in the clay, and most memorably, some spellbinding tennis. The ground

:02:08. > :02:14.him down in the end. From two sets down, the Italian is now, well, can

:02:15. > :02:20.he do it? He had some comeback wins last year for sure, but against a

:02:21. > :02:24.double grand slam winner, this man, Andy Murray, he has two have a very

:02:25. > :02:44.slim chance from here. Naples, Italy, the setting for this

:02:45. > :02:48.Davis cup quarterfinal. Andy Murray is in pain at times. His trainers

:02:49. > :02:55.were getting caught in the sodden clay, not ideal. Both players are

:02:56. > :03:00.battling hard, but right on the Bay of Naples. I like the look of

:03:01. > :03:06.those! Send a couple our way, please! Very handy for those

:03:07. > :03:11.spectators. Why would you sit there and watch television when there is a

:03:12. > :03:14.bar right behind you? I had my eye on the beach in the background.

:03:15. > :03:19.Clearly we have differing viewpoints about what we are looking at. That

:03:20. > :03:25.is the athlete Dominic Inglot for you. Here is the Stirling University

:03:26. > :03:33.support brigade dancing their way around the stand. And another big

:03:34. > :03:39.weekend, this, from Andy Murray, hoping to lead Great Britain into

:03:40. > :03:40.the Davis Cup semifinals. And what a weekend it was last summer when he

:03:41. > :03:52.won at Wimbledon title. As Andy Murray starts the defence of

:03:53. > :03:57.his Wimbledon crown this summer, we are looking for your Wimbledon

:03:58. > :04:01.memories. Where were you when he won his title on the 7th of July last

:04:02. > :04:08.year? If you have any photographs or videos of that moment when he won,

:04:09. > :04:10.if you have anything and would like to share it, as part of that

:04:11. > :04:26.programme, you can e-mail us. Do something useful with it before

:04:27. > :06:24.you press delete. That is big. That is the frustration

:06:25. > :06:30.that creeps in when you play Andy Murray. Seppi thinks he's in a good

:06:31. > :06:36.position to win this rally, and then back it comes at him, angled out

:06:37. > :06:40.wide, and he loses the point. That is his defensive ability, that he

:06:41. > :06:41.can change an outcome of a point, Andy Murray, he is right up there

:06:42. > :07:19.with the best. Once again, we see the pressure of

:07:20. > :07:22.Murray's defensive abilities. Against any other player, Seppi

:07:23. > :07:27.would have rolled that into the corner, but against Andy Murray, he

:07:28. > :07:32.knows that not will be -- will not be good enough. He misses it,

:07:33. > :07:36.because he knows that Andy Murray could do any of a number of shots

:07:37. > :08:57.and forces his opponent into a mistake.

:08:58. > :09:10.That is a brilliant point. That really is. Clay-court tennis at its

:09:11. > :09:16.best from the Italian. Using the angles. The short angle, then he

:09:17. > :09:21.gets around, good footwork, opposite direction. Murray, never able to get

:09:22. > :09:42.ahead of that rally. Seppi so accurate.

:09:43. > :10:30.How can he be that accurate? I think Murray is asking.

:10:31. > :10:37.Lovely point, he took the second serve early, rushed Seppi, so he

:10:38. > :10:38.couldn't get the ball deep and he stepped in on the backhand once

:10:39. > :11:13.more. Good pressure from Andy. Third break point in the game for

:11:14. > :11:59.Murray. Yet again, another game of multiple dueces.

:12:00. > :12:20.He's not happy. Ever the perfectionist.

:12:21. > :12:30.Oh, that went horribly wrong. If you get an overhead like that against

:12:31. > :12:35.Murray, you've got to do better than that. That was only going to come

:12:36. > :14:25.back with interest. It caught the line. Seppi saves four

:14:26. > :14:28.break points. He has to to win. Good game from Seppi but Andy is still

:14:29. > :14:32.upset at himself for missing flat forehand when he was up break point.

:14:33. > :14:40.He knows you don't want to give your opponent points. You want to press,

:14:41. > :14:44.but measured. Measured aggression. And he gave it away. He was

:14:45. > :14:56.impatient when he hit the forehand, which is why he is still only in

:14:57. > :15:01.himself. It is amazing, though, in terms of Seppi's first serves, he

:15:02. > :15:06.hit some big ones. But he is loose now, his arm has got loose because

:15:07. > :15:11.he has lost the first two sets. If he had done that earlier, he might

:15:12. > :15:15.be in better position. When you get tight, the serve can get off a bit.

:15:16. > :15:28.You need to relax, and he served very well in that last game.

:15:29. > :15:39.We haven't seen Murray that stressed in a game for some time. It is a

:15:40. > :15:44.sign of how much he cares, for sure. I think he also... He wants to get

:15:45. > :15:50.this match over with. His conscious of the fact that an hour and a half,

:15:51. > :16:04.he will have to play the doubles. He wants to win this in three sets.

:16:05. > :16:10.However much you are a pro, he has got to take care of business. It's

:16:11. > :16:16.difficult not to wander ahead in your mind, to wonder what is going

:16:17. > :16:19.to come up. I agree, subconsciously, it's in the back of your head.

:16:20. > :16:46.You're thinking, I've got to get this done with.

:16:47. > :16:55.Lovely lob from Seppi. One each now. Murray just clipped it with his

:16:56. > :17:04.frame but it still goes down as a brilliant forehand lob from Seppi to

:17:05. > :17:08.win him the point. Just another example of these days, with the

:17:09. > :17:12.approach shot, it has to be so good, the ground strokes of players, what

:17:13. > :17:15.they can do with pace and lobs, it's remarkable. It was a good approach

:17:16. > :17:22.from Murray. The string allows for that. Exactly.

:17:23. > :17:39.Modern day equipment. You can understand why players are

:17:40. > :17:48.hesitant to come into the net because of the passing shots.

:17:49. > :18:15.That was a good sneak attack, but didn't get any reward for it.

:18:16. > :18:54.Doesn't look to let Seppi get back into the match to let him get an

:18:55. > :18:58.early break in the third. Good footwork to try to get around the

:18:59. > :18:59.forehand to make sure he is in good position and he executed

:19:00. > :20:25.beautifully. The last nine games of the match

:20:26. > :20:53.have had multiple deuces, very, very tight.

:20:54. > :21:02.No point going for that one. The time issue is a big factor. We have

:21:03. > :21:08.two hours until the scheduled start of the doubles. I'm sure Murray

:21:09. > :21:14.would like a break if he does intend to play with Colin Fleming.

:21:15. > :21:22.Absolutely, he doesn't want to go on the court coming off not having

:21:23. > :21:26.enough time to have a proper meal, a good stretch, a warm down. If he

:21:27. > :21:31.doesn't have enough time to do that, and he feels like he is Russian, he

:21:32. > :21:47.doesn't want to feel like that. -- he feels like he is rushing.

:21:48. > :21:55.On the other hand, Fleming and Hutchins are the nominated doubles

:21:56. > :21:59.pairing, established team, even though Ross has only come back, we

:22:00. > :22:08.don't know what Captain Smith is thinking. The good thing is those

:22:09. > :22:16.guys have played so much that if they are thrown on, they will be

:22:17. > :22:17.ready because there is no use to getting -- there is no getting used

:22:18. > :22:34.to each other. UMPIRE: Let, first service. It's not

:22:35. > :22:42.my fork, the machine beeped! The computer says no!

:22:43. > :23:55.Well, what a thing! A love service hold. That was an easy service game,

:23:56. > :23:58.for the first time. That was a good weight of shot behind the Murray

:23:59. > :24:06.ground strokes but then he found himself in a very awkward position.

:24:07. > :24:11.That is no man's land, really. Stressful business on current

:24:12. > :24:15.evidence, when you think back to that Wimbledon title, it makes you

:24:16. > :24:21.wonder how he actually managed to get it done. And extraordinary final

:24:22. > :24:26.game when he saved all the break points. If he had lost that final

:24:27. > :24:32.game and in broken back, I do not think he would be Wimbledon champion

:24:33. > :24:34.now. It would have been very tough. It was remarkable how he came

:24:35. > :24:42.through to win that with the pressure on him there. You can't

:24:43. > :24:44.imagine it. And when you also consider that he was under more

:24:45. > :24:50.pressure when he was facing the break back point, when he was on a

:24:51. > :24:55.deuce point, you could argue that the closest Djokovic tainted victory

:24:56. > :24:59.was when he was match point down, because he had been playing those

:25:00. > :25:06.shots with freedom. An amazing match.

:25:07. > :25:21.Italy has a grand slam winner of course, years back. Italian women's

:25:22. > :25:51.tennis has been on the crest of a wave in the last few years.

:25:52. > :26:03.So we are going with serve in the third set. A few latecomers are just

:26:04. > :26:09.behind Seppi, distracting Andy Murray as he prepares to serve.

:26:10. > :26:42.Just oblivious to the world. Take a seat! Any one will do.

:26:43. > :26:53.A good mix-up. Seppi knows that the reason Andy Murray is so good at

:26:54. > :26:57.defending if here so far behind the baseline. That is why he is able to

:26:58. > :27:02.cover the court. If he can't get through him, will have to try to

:27:03. > :27:03.come -- forcing to come closer to the baseline. Good choice of shots

:27:04. > :27:17.there. Also, in a weird way, losing the

:27:18. > :27:21.second set has made him lose, Seppi. He is going for it more, his

:27:22. > :27:24.forehand is better and his serve has got a bit more point she -- punch on

:27:25. > :27:49.it. He's just going for it now. Tremendous support, when you think

:27:50. > :27:57.of it. Very rarely, when you are playing the Davis Cup in Italy, the

:27:58. > :28:00.opposing team supporters are at doing -- outdoing the home support

:28:01. > :28:09.with the noise. It is amazing, really.

:28:10. > :28:38.Three of those so far today for Andy Murray. And on big points as well.

:28:39. > :28:55.Breakdown in the third set. The ultra-solid Seppi, perhaps he starts

:28:56. > :29:00.to come back. As soon as Andy Murray loses a couple of first serves, that

:29:01. > :29:11.is when he lets it slip. The thing though he is really good on the

:29:12. > :29:14.baseline, he is giving his opponent free points. It is always important

:29:15. > :29:49.to get your first serve percentage as high as possible.

:29:50. > :30:01.Seppi broke for a 4-2 lead in the second set. Andy Murray hit straight

:30:02. > :30:09.back. Looking to do the same here. There is the mark in the clay.

:30:10. > :30:15.It looks like he has taken a bit off his first serve there. Is Andy

:30:16. > :30:17.Murray is counterpunching off his first serve, he hasn't put that much

:30:18. > :31:26.on it. He took that so early, there,

:31:27. > :31:33.Murray. He did not give Seppi any time to recover. He makes it look

:31:34. > :31:35.easy, but in time, this sort of ball, it is not easy to see how he

:31:36. > :33:09.took that. He knows he has been letting him off

:33:10. > :33:11.the hook there, in the previous game and in this one, he is letting him

:33:12. > :33:23.get away with some of these. It is incredible how some of the

:33:24. > :33:28.tower serves are followed by one fleeting back on the stretch. When

:33:29. > :33:30.he has more time to think about it, that is when you can overthink and

:33:31. > :34:19.make mistakes. Has he made it? I think he has.

:34:20. > :34:34.Barry -- Andy Murray is not sure where the mark is. It was called in.

:34:35. > :35:31.He has been bowled on so many of the break points he has faced today.

:35:32. > :35:39.Just pushed it long. I have to say, what a flick on a hard volley from

:35:40. > :35:45.Andy Murray. That has effectively won him that point. He got caught in

:35:46. > :35:49.no man's land there, Andy Murray, and he improvised beautifully, but

:35:50. > :35:53.once again, that shop there, he had to try to make it so good, because

:35:54. > :35:58.he knows what is coming next with Andy Murray's pass, and he just

:35:59. > :35:59.overcooked it. We have seen a few times today. That is the pressure

:36:00. > :36:33.that Andy Murray puts on you. A rare lapse, Seppi double faulting

:36:34. > :36:36.on that fourth break points. Andy Murray is back in the set,

:36:37. > :36:42.retrieving the break straightaway, just that he did in the second set

:36:43. > :36:47.yesterday afternoon. Seppi knew that if he is going to float lines to the

:36:48. > :36:53.back, he is going to be rushed, and he has been rushed to many times. He

:36:54. > :36:57.tried to change it up. It is amazing how tactics can win you points, but

:36:58. > :37:02.it can also win you points later on just by putting on a compound in

:37:03. > :37:07.pressure on your opponent, and then trying to do too much later on come

:37:08. > :37:12.as he tried to do then when you try to return that drop shot. You have

:37:13. > :37:21.to think about a couple of points ahead, not just the one you are

:37:22. > :37:25.playing. He did well then, Andy Murray, to break back again. His

:37:26. > :37:31.level has dropped a bit in this third set, and you expect the

:37:32. > :37:44.scenario coming into this match, I thought he could lose that set.

:37:45. > :37:47.Seppi opened up his shoulders. It is dangerous to play against an

:37:48. > :37:56.opponent who suddenly gets loose. Andy Murray lost it a bit. A couple

:37:57. > :38:00.of shaky serves. But a wonderful competitor, he bounces back with a

:38:01. > :38:04.break when he needs it, and that is what separates the very good players

:38:05. > :38:10.from the great players. Still got a long way to go, to close this match

:38:11. > :38:11.out. He's playing against an opponent who is much looser and more

:38:12. > :38:53.dangerous. It does not leave Seppi anywhere to

:38:54. > :38:57.go with that shot there. If he had gone across court, he would at --

:38:58. > :39:12.have been at risk of a runaround forehand drive.

:39:13. > :39:22.That was bad. He finished three quarters of the way up of the net.

:39:23. > :39:27.It is noted good double fault. It looked like he didn't accelerate on

:39:28. > :41:53.it. He should look at the scoreboard and

:41:54. > :42:19.draw encouragement here. It is now 3-3. And Murray is a bit

:42:20. > :42:31.closer. It is a matter of the few games.

:42:32. > :42:39.Seppi won't go away, he knows what it takes to win in five sets. He won

:42:40. > :42:58.two matches in Wimbledon last summer in five sets.

:42:59. > :43:10.Way to close on that volley. He just bumped it with his hands. How many

:43:11. > :43:19.times has Murray and has abated that shot-mac? -- that shot? He has to go

:43:20. > :43:33.one way and the other, Murray has picked it so many times.

:43:34. > :43:40.I think when Seppi has that inside out foot, and he goes crosscourt, we

:43:41. > :43:44.already talked about how he can't get the ball up and down which

:43:45. > :43:48.leaves him that crosscourt option where he has got a longer part of

:43:49. > :43:54.the court to go into, a lower part of the net to do it over, some are

:43:55. > :43:55.better chance for Kim. And Andy is starting to read that. -- a better

:43:56. > :44:16.chance for him. Opportunity here. You are right. He

:44:17. > :44:22.is pushing for the lines because he knows he has to. You cannot leave

:44:23. > :45:05.yourself margins for error with the very best players in the world.

:45:06. > :45:17.How has he missed it? Cannot believe it! Great recovery from Seppi.

:45:18. > :45:21.Unbelievable! Well, Saturday morning, and if you are a young

:45:22. > :45:25.tennis player watching at home just learning the game, look what Seppi

:45:26. > :45:31.does. He makes Murray play one more shot, and it is that shot that he

:45:32. > :45:32.misses. So you get the point. Put in the effort, you will get the

:45:33. > :46:53.rewards. The umpire said it was advantage

:46:54. > :47:33.Italy! But it is break point Britain.

:47:34. > :47:44.Murray this time doing the legwork. Great tennis. He recovered, he put

:47:45. > :47:50.the high lob in. He keeps himself in the point. Just excellent. Murray,

:47:51. > :47:55.buying himself a little bit of time and those points to recover

:47:56. > :47:58.position. Again, this is great Saturday morning education for young

:47:59. > :48:05.tennis players. Watch what these pros are doing. Let's go courtside

:48:06. > :48:10.and join Russell Fuller. What's the word from the team bench about what

:48:11. > :48:15.might happen in the doubles? I think there is very little doubt that it

:48:16. > :48:19.will be Murray playing with Colin Fleming, that are subject to a quick

:48:20. > :48:23.health check from Andy Murray. He will let snow exactly how that knee

:48:24. > :48:30.feels after verse lied when he got his knee caught up in the clay, his

:48:31. > :48:35.foot caught up. If he can win this match in straight sets, that has

:48:36. > :48:40.been plan a and plan B in many ways for Murray to play the doubles with

:48:41. > :48:45.Colin Fleming. Even though these sets have been longer than he would

:48:46. > :48:48.like, you can see the glint in his eye and the absolute determination.

:48:49. > :48:55.I do think he wants to leave it to anyone else. It's not that he

:48:56. > :49:01.doesn't trust Ross Hutchins, but he wants to do it himself. That was

:49:02. > :49:04.Russell, on court, and he will be talking to Andy Murray in a few

:49:05. > :49:17.minutes time. Into the fourth hour of this match. He is ahead, 4-3. I

:49:18. > :49:21.don't think the knee issue... You would have seen it with his movement

:49:22. > :49:25.if there was any problems after the slip. And he has been moving like

:49:26. > :50:11.lightning out there so I would be surprised if that is a factor.

:50:12. > :50:22.Yes, I think his spirit is broken. Gave him a call of hope in the third

:50:23. > :50:27.set with that rate but then incredible defensive play from

:50:28. > :50:49.Murray. And now he has lost that will little bit. Great serving.

:50:50. > :51:01.And thank you very much. Love service hold for 5-3. Murray is a

:51:02. > :51:07.game away from levelling this tie at 1-1. It is building nicely, isn't

:51:08. > :51:13.it? We knew it would be a tight weekend. But it is delivering on

:51:14. > :52:29.quality. As much as on drama. Murray is turning on the style now.

:52:30. > :53:11.He is heading towards the chequered flag of the match.

:53:12. > :53:19.He cleaned the line! You have to give Andreas Seppi enormous credit

:53:20. > :53:27.for kids role in this match over two days. Poor guy, he has fought for

:53:28. > :53:31.over three hours, he has played some spellbinding stuff, and he has

:53:32. > :53:33.practically nothing to show for it! Is going to lose in straight sets,

:53:34. > :54:07.the way it is going. Just wide! That would have been the

:54:08. > :54:12.shot of the day! Probably the shot of the day in any match for a long

:54:13. > :54:54.time on balance. You get the impression Andy Murray

:54:55. > :55:02.wants to finish it here. What a game of tricks and flicks and drives and

:55:03. > :55:07.now match point. The second serve is something I've been impressed with.

:55:08. > :55:15.Brighten the Corners. -- right in the Corners. I've really enjoyed it.

:55:16. > :55:21.I know he had to hit an incredible passing shot, but he could use this

:55:22. > :55:48.to -- tactic a little bit more often.

:55:49. > :55:53.Murray really does finish it in style.

:55:54. > :55:56.His last two games were absolutely critical, and that is Murray at his

:55:57. > :56:03.best. Just serving great service, he

:56:04. > :56:19.doesn't look like he's going to miss. Exceptional.

:56:20. > :56:28.Well, he won the last five games of the match. Don't forget, he was

:56:29. > :56:32.fully one down in that as Seppi launched a mini fightback.

:56:33. > :56:36.It did not last long, though. These days there is a bit of a danger that

:56:37. > :56:42.we take Andy Murray victories for granted. Make no mistake, that took

:56:43. > :56:48.huge determination, skill and effort to get that done in straight sets.

:56:49. > :56:53.And now give him the chance of an hour and a half before coming back

:56:54. > :56:58.to play doubles for Great Britain. I think so, but he has to take care of

:56:59. > :57:02.his recovery. That will require a warm down,

:57:03. > :57:15.protein shakes potentially, a good meal to be ready for the doubles.

:57:16. > :57:22.Murray, 6-4, 6-5, six -- 7-3. One of his best wins lately, I would

:57:23. > :57:27.suggest. STUDIO: It is 1-1 at the end of this first tie between Italy

:57:28. > :57:30.and Great Britain in Naples. And there is the scoring the other

:57:31. > :57:42.matches. The Czech Republic are through the semifinals already,

:57:43. > :57:44.France are 2-0 down against Germany. Switzerland are drawing with

:57:45. > :57:50.Kazakhstan and the winner of that match will play the winner of this.

:57:51. > :57:53.What did you make of that at the end flag?

:57:54. > :57:58.Brilliant, I have seen it a thousand times with great players how they

:57:59. > :58:02.come through and hit the big points when they are in trouble or

:58:03. > :58:06.whatever, and you see it again and it becomes almost regulation, but

:58:07. > :58:09.you don't realise how much pleasure he was under there.

:58:10. > :58:13.Seppi came back in the third and once again he finds to great points

:58:14. > :58:18.and that is what great players do. It is a remarkable performance.

:58:19. > :58:21.There was a moment he was broken early in the third set and the crowd

:58:22. > :58:27.were getting at them, but immediately he broke back which is

:58:28. > :58:29.what happened yesterday. That is right.

:58:30. > :58:34.You could see the spirit of Seppi after that, you was destroyed. But

:58:35. > :58:39.some of the points, it was not like Seppi give it to him, Murray had

:58:40. > :58:44.come with some extraordinary shots from defensive positions. It is that

:58:45. > :58:50.ability has a new sealed over and over again, you almost expect it, he

:58:51. > :58:54.comes through almost every time. How frustrating as it playing a

:58:55. > :58:58.player with those looping forehand is that always gives a match as to

:58:59. > :59:03.get into position? A complete nightmare, because in the end you

:59:04. > :59:07.have to start going for lines, anything other than that and it will

:59:08. > :59:11.come back to you. He has the variation of pace, the

:59:12. > :59:17.drop shot, the big serve, he is quick as lightning. When you go to

:59:18. > :59:22.bed the night before playing him he must think, heavens, what have I got

:59:23. > :59:26.to look forward to tomorrow? Let's you from the man of the moment now

:59:27. > :59:30.with Russell Fuller. Andy, many congratulations, the

:59:31. > :59:39.perfect morning's work, a victory strict sets. Yes, the last few games

:59:40. > :59:43.went by quite quick, but the start of the match, we came back on, there

:59:44. > :59:48.was a long first few games and at the beginning of the third set there

:59:49. > :59:51.was a lot of long games, it was good I managed to finish that in straight

:59:52. > :59:56.sets. At least I can be an option for the

:59:57. > :00:00.doubled if Leon wants to use me. You have to have that conversation with

:00:01. > :00:04.Leon Smith first, but will you be wanting to play doubles this

:00:05. > :00:08.afternoon to Michael it is not necessarily my decision also -- will

:00:09. > :00:13.you be wanting to doubles this afternoon?

:00:14. > :00:21.It is not necessarily my decision, I will speak to the doctor as well and

:00:22. > :00:25.see what he thinks. If they are sure they are going to

:00:26. > :00:29.get the job done and maybe it makes more sense for them to play, we will

:00:30. > :00:35.go and chat about it now. Do you feel physically ready yourself?

:00:36. > :00:41.I was a little bit tired this morning when I got up, but once I

:00:42. > :00:48.got going I felt OK, I felt pretty good, it is pretty dangerous on this

:00:49. > :00:54.court and you have to be careful and hope no one gets hurt. Finally,

:00:55. > :00:59.there was that one particular corner where you looked like you hurt your

:01:00. > :01:03.knee early on and is it difficult running across clade to completely

:01:04. > :01:13.trust the surface? -- running across clay. This side is

:01:14. > :01:15.fine, but there are a lot of bad bounces and that corner is

:01:16. > :01:18.dangerous. I don't believe that is good

:01:19. > :01:23.enough. If this was on the tournament, they would not be using

:01:24. > :01:26.this court. They will have to talk about that after the tie because the

:01:27. > :01:30.last thing you want is people getting injured because of a bad

:01:31. > :01:33.surface. It does not need to be like that. We will let you go and talk to

:01:34. > :01:38.the doctor and Leon, well done again, Andy.

:01:39. > :01:41.Some strong words from our number one.

:01:42. > :01:43.What do you make of the court? Years absolutely right.

:01:44. > :01:50.It is disgraceful what has happened and whoever makes the report on it,

:01:51. > :01:55.I would think they should be fined. -- he is absolutely right. It should

:01:56. > :01:58.not be allowed in any group match in the Davis Cup for them to have

:01:59. > :02:03.messed up the way they have done. It is unacceptable.

:02:04. > :02:07.The match could hinge on what happens in the doubles that will

:02:08. > :02:12.start at 1pm on BBC One, which we are assuming is going to be Colin

:02:13. > :02:24.Fleming and Andy Murray, but that is yet to be confirmed. It is a pretty

:02:25. > :02:27.safe bet. Football focus today is at 12:10pm on BBC One. We all to

:02:28. > :02:35.mention as well that the women's World Cup qualifier, England against

:02:36. > :02:39.Montenegro, is at 12:45pm on BBC Two. -- we ought to mention. Lots of

:02:40. > :02:43.double faults to be an Andy Murray's game.

:02:44. > :02:48.That was strange. He did not serve very well, his serve was a bit off,

:02:49. > :02:53.not as many first serves as you to make and his second looked a bit

:02:54. > :02:58.shaky. That could be a concern in the doubles. If he goes middle of

:02:59. > :03:03.the court with those second service with not much on them we could be in

:03:04. > :03:07.trouble. Assuming that he does play, the

:03:08. > :03:12.decision to play him and Fleming, is there an element of a gamble in

:03:13. > :03:17.that? Nor, I think Andy was very

:03:18. > :03:21.diplomatic parent respectful to his captain saying that it is his

:03:22. > :03:28.choice, but it is only choice, if he wants to play, he will play. -- it

:03:29. > :03:32.is Andy's dreads. We have had some spellbinding tennis, Davis Cup

:03:33. > :03:35.doubles invariably does not disappoint and we could be in for a

:03:36. > :03:38.long afternoon and let's hope it is a good one from British tennis's

:03:39. > :03:42.perspective. We will see you at 1pm, just time to

:03:43. > :03:42.go and put a bet on for this afternoon.

:03:43. > :03:49.Goodbye.
