:00:37. > :00:48.JOHN INVERDALE: Great Britain waited 77 years for a new Wimbledon

:00:49. > :00:55.champion. The waiting is over! 78 years have passed since Great

:00:56. > :01:01.Britain lifted the Davis Cup. On behalf of the British Davis Cup

:01:02. > :01:05.team, I desire to express to you our great appreciation. Can Andy Murray

:01:06. > :01:11.and Great Britain take one step further towards their Davis Cup

:01:12. > :01:17.dream today? James Ward is doing his country proud out here. It is a big

:01:18. > :01:22.day for the team, two bites at the cherry. Wimbledon champion first.

:01:23. > :01:28.What a match this is turning into. Can Britain finish the job? Everyone

:01:29. > :01:34.is pumped up and motivated. A huge prize at stake.

:01:35. > :01:39.Hello, it is a Sunday morning for a bit of tennis history. Never mind

:01:40. > :01:44.the fact that it is 78 years since Britain won the Davis Cup, it is 33

:01:45. > :01:47.years since they reached the semifinals, long before Andy Murray

:01:48. > :01:52.was born. It is a simple scenario over the next who knows how long?

:01:53. > :01:59.Great Britain have to win one of the last two remaining singles and I am

:02:00. > :02:02.sure 99% of you watching would prefer Andy Murray to do that to

:02:03. > :02:06.spare us the agony of a deciding rubber between James Ward and

:02:07. > :02:10.Andreas Seppi. This is what team captain Leon Smith set up that

:02:11. > :02:14.perhaps decisive doubles victory yesterday. It is a great position to

:02:15. > :02:18.be in, that was our best opportunity to go into the last day to -1 up,

:02:19. > :02:24.otherwise it would have been very difficult. Now the confidence is

:02:25. > :02:28.very high. When you get that Davis Cup rubber, it really gives you a

:02:29. > :02:30.huge lift and now we can go into this with a lot of confidence,

:02:31. > :02:34.knowing we have two bites at the cherry. We have a Wimbledon champion

:02:35. > :02:40.going first up, which is a great position to be in. And I know how

:02:41. > :02:44.motivated and it will be for the team to get over the line, but at

:02:45. > :02:48.the same time, I think it will be a real dogfight, a very difficult

:02:49. > :02:53.match against a high-quality player. Well, these are live pictures, Andy

:02:54. > :02:57.Murray walking onto the court now for his match against Fabio Fognini,

:02:58. > :03:02.the Italian number one and the world number 13. Just to re-emphasise what

:03:03. > :03:07.Leon Smith said, this will be a very hard, but from those pictures, he is

:03:08. > :03:11.looking reasonably relaxed. The scenario is that of Great Britain

:03:12. > :03:15.were to get a victory today, either through Andy Murray or James Ward,

:03:16. > :03:19.it would put them into the semifinals against the winners of

:03:20. > :03:22.Switzerland and Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan taking an extraordinary

:03:23. > :03:27.2-1 lead with victory over Federer and Wawrinka in the doubles, but

:03:28. > :03:30.they are playing in the reverse singles for Switzerland today so you

:03:31. > :03:35.would think perhaps they would win that. The Czech Republic are already

:03:36. > :03:39.through and Germany take a 2-1 lead into the singles in Nancy against

:03:40. > :03:43.France. But all of our attention for the moment at least is Andy Murray.

:03:44. > :03:48.John Lloyd and Dominic Inglot are here. Andy has a great record, he

:03:49. > :03:52.must start the favourite? I don't think there is any question about

:03:53. > :03:56.that. I thought he looked a little bit tired in the last three or four

:03:57. > :03:59.games in the doubles, but who wouldn't be after playing two

:04:00. > :04:03.matches yesterday? I think he will be fine. I think there will be an

:04:04. > :04:06.early charge from the Italian which will have to be alert to at the

:04:07. > :04:10.beginning, because the crowd will get behind him, but I think he is

:04:11. > :04:14.too good a player now. His presence there when he steps on court, he

:04:15. > :04:20.looks like he will win every match he plays, even on clay, which his

:04:21. > :04:26.worst surface. Fognini is a formidable player, especially on

:04:27. > :04:31.clay. He has won 40 out of the last 52 matches in the last year and a

:04:32. > :04:37.half, he has won three tournaments is, so he is competent, surface.

:04:38. > :04:42.Andy, he is weaker on the surface, but the doubles will give him a lot

:04:43. > :04:45.of confidence and if he can quieten the crowd, that will give him a

:04:46. > :04:50.boost because Fognini will use the crowd to get that energy. Fognini is

:04:51. > :04:55.subject to mood swings, it is fair to say and if things go wrong thing,

:04:56. > :04:58.do you think that will be it? I wouldn't count him out early on if

:04:59. > :05:01.he has a mood swing and starts playing badly, because we saw in the

:05:02. > :05:07.doubles yesterday, a little bit of flair and the Italians can string

:05:08. > :05:11.off winners from anywhere, but I wouldn't count out that if Andy

:05:12. > :05:15.Murray goes up 2-0, the match will be over. We can look at Andy

:05:16. > :05:23.Murray's record in single since he was date --his debut when he was

:05:24. > :05:26.18. Lot of these are not household names, but the only defeat he has

:05:27. > :05:36.ever suffered in the Davis Cup singles was his very first match

:05:37. > :05:43.against formidable Wawrinka. Jana which is now obviously a serious

:05:44. > :05:53.player, Ivan Dodig is not to be dismissed, and is that victories

:05:54. > :05:57.against the US that has put Britain in this position. And we don't ready

:05:58. > :06:01.once the agony of James Ward against Andreas Seppi to be the deciding

:06:02. > :06:05.factor, do we? I think, all things being taken into account, you

:06:06. > :06:13.wouldn't think that James could beat sappy on the surface. -- Andreas

:06:14. > :06:17.Seppi. I would say it is a 70-30 match in favour of Italy, but I

:06:18. > :06:20.think as we have seen in the past, it doesn't necessarily mean that if

:06:21. > :06:27.you are the best player and he will win in the Davis Cup. It is

:06:28. > :06:32.unpredictable and James Ward has a good record, but the odds will be

:06:33. > :06:36.against it. You were involved in the tie in the USA, Dominic. How will

:06:37. > :06:41.James Ward be feeling, watching Andy Murray playing? There will be a part

:06:42. > :06:44.of him, as a competitor, a sporting animal, saying he would love the

:06:45. > :06:47.opportunity to be the hero of the hour later on, but the other half

:06:48. > :06:55.would be saying, I would rather not be in that situation, do the job and

:06:56. > :06:59.we can move on. He was in a very similar situation in the USA,

:07:00. > :07:02.sitting next to me and watching Andy playing and he was obviously

:07:03. > :07:06.cheering for Andy, because he is thinking, you know, it is easier if

:07:07. > :07:12.I don't have to go out there. I did my job, I got a win, job is done, we

:07:13. > :07:16.can all go home. At the same time, he is preparing himself, getting his

:07:17. > :07:22.food in, as if he is ready to go out there, so I think he will relish it

:07:23. > :07:25.if he has the opportunity to play but he will of course be supporting

:07:26. > :07:30.Andy. If you were Fognini, how do you play Andy Murray in the kind of

:07:31. > :07:33.form he has been in the last couple of days question mark how does

:07:34. > :07:38.Fognini vary his game to undermine the Andy Murray game? He will be

:07:39. > :07:43.saying to himself, look, I have beaten everybody on clay, this is my

:07:44. > :07:47.best surface, this is my home and I am going to go after Murray and the

:07:48. > :07:55.unpredictable, as he is, Gopher shots. What you mean, go after him?

:07:56. > :07:58.Not hold back, I think he will go the big winners, drop shots, vary it

:07:59. > :08:04.as much as possible and get Andy out of his comfort zone. If Andy is

:08:05. > :08:09.dog-eared and digging out the ball so well, as we know he can, there is

:08:10. > :08:13.only one winner and family, and he will be serving big --for me.

:08:14. > :08:17.Fognini will have to serve a lot of first serves and he will attack Andy

:08:18. > :08:21.whenever he has the chance to, keep the rallies and nice and deep.

:08:22. > :08:26.Anything short, he will be punished. It is a tough match for him. We

:08:27. > :08:30.talked about Fognini yesterday and the point you made repeatedly is he

:08:31. > :08:34.doesn't have a big serve. Less important on clay than other

:08:35. > :08:38.surfaces, but it does put a huge amount of pressure on his first

:08:39. > :08:43.serve, because the second serve you can attack in a big way. You have to

:08:44. > :08:47.be careful, because in doubles, you can attack it but the ball can only

:08:48. > :08:50.come back in one direction. If you attack the serve, the ball comes

:08:51. > :08:54.back faster toward you. If it goes away from you, you have less time to

:08:55. > :08:58.recover, so to time as you have the mix and match it and catch your

:08:59. > :09:06.opponent off-guard -- sometimes you have to do. Yesterday, we saw there

:09:07. > :09:10.was a huge amount of British support for Andy Murray and Colin Fleming,

:09:11. > :09:13.which was fantastic, especially in those nerve wracking moments towards

:09:14. > :09:17.the end of the match in the fourth set when it looked as though we

:09:18. > :09:21.might go to a deciding one. We can see a few empty seats, I wonder if

:09:22. > :09:25.some of the Italians who have tickets think, our man will never

:09:26. > :09:29.beat Murray, it is all over. But if Fognini gets off to a good start,

:09:30. > :09:39.the Davis Cup has a great history of turning normally calm tennis courts

:09:40. > :09:43.into their pits. I think it will be a lot louder and credit to the

:09:44. > :09:46.British support, 700 of them, they have been remarkable and have

:09:47. > :09:50.quelled it to a certain extent. It is also because we have played so

:09:51. > :09:53.well. But I agree, if Fognini can get off to a good start, this crowd

:09:54. > :09:59.will be buzzed and it will make things more difficult for Andy. The

:10:00. > :10:03.first set is critical. Dominic, we can see Andy, looking very chilled,

:10:04. > :10:07.and obviously you were with him in the USA, what is he liked for the

:10:08. > :10:11.two or three hours before walking out on court? He will be very

:10:12. > :10:17.relaxed. He is very confident in his ability, he knows he can go out

:10:18. > :10:21.there and closer he gets to the match, the more he will focus.

:10:22. > :10:25.Robbery stay a little bit away from the team but he will accept

:10:26. > :10:31.people's hopes for him to do well but his mind is very much on the

:10:32. > :10:34.game and preparing, stretching, doing his exercises. You don't want

:10:35. > :10:38.to bother him too much ten or 15 minutes before he plays. As

:10:39. > :10:42.captain, John, will Leon Smith have one ear on what happens in Geneva?

:10:43. > :10:47.We are not counting any chickens but if Andy is favourite here and maybe

:10:48. > :10:50.get in the ascendancy, one percentage of that mind is going to

:10:51. > :10:54.be thinking about the semifinal, which will be at home against

:10:55. > :10:59.Switzerland, or away against Kazakhstan. So they are all going to

:11:00. > :11:03.be very interested in what is happening in Geneva, aren't they?

:11:04. > :11:07.They are. You can't help your mind wanders, you are the captain or the

:11:08. > :11:12.coach and you are looking ahead and thinking, what if? And whatever Leon

:11:13. > :11:16.is saying, he will say he is taking one match at a time, the old cliche,

:11:17. > :11:20.but trust me, he is thinking that if we can win this match and have a

:11:21. > :11:25.match against Switzerland at home, the biggest match in how many years,

:11:26. > :11:31.right up there, maybe the biggest ever hope match in the Davis Cup...

:11:32. > :11:35.We were discussing last night where they might stage that and we were

:11:36. > :11:38.speculating that it would be under the roof on Centre Court, what an

:11:39. > :11:43.occasion that would be. Do you expect Switzerland to come through?

:11:44. > :11:49.I expect Switzerland to come through and I think France will. They are

:11:50. > :11:55.teams that are down 2-1, and I think Italy will not come through at 2-1

:11:56. > :12:00.down. If France were to come back to win against Germany 3-2, we are

:12:01. > :12:03.assuming the reverse singles are going to be played with Jo-Wilfried

:12:04. > :12:09.Tsonga and probably Julien Benneteau, it would be only the

:12:10. > :12:13.eighth time in the history of the top tier of the Davis Cup that

:12:14. > :12:17.anyone has come down from two matches to love them, so it would be

:12:18. > :12:21.a considerable achievement for the French. All of the other matches are

:12:22. > :12:24.being played indoors, this is the only one outdoors, which didn't look

:12:25. > :12:28.a great idea on Friday when the rain was pouring down and we were delayed

:12:29. > :12:32.by several hours, but the forecast for today is good and let's hope

:12:33. > :12:36.that the forecast is set fair for Andy Murray. We know you have

:12:37. > :12:37.enjoyed watching the coverage over the

:12:38. > :12:40.enjoyed watching the coverage over last couple of days, because we have

:12:41. > :12:44.had a huge response, but if you would like to contribute your

:12:45. > :12:49.thoughts on the Davis Cup generally, where the potential Davis Cup

:12:50. > :12:55.semifinal might be played, then obviously you can go to the BBC

:12:56. > :12:57.website or Twitter and if you don't have the ability, because it is a

:12:58. > :13:00.Sunday and there are a million things to do other than watch

:13:01. > :13:05.tennis, we know that, but if you can't watch every single ball hit

:13:06. > :13:11.with us, listen to Radio 5Live, Radio 5Live sports extra or the BBC

:13:12. > :13:15.website has ball by ball tax payer on what is going to happen over the

:13:16. > :13:23.course of the next two, three, four, who knows how many hours? So let's

:13:24. > :13:24.join Jonathan, who will hopefully be describing a bit of sporting history

:13:25. > :13:35.over the next few hours. Good morning. Absolutely, let's

:13:36. > :13:38.home. Lovely conditions in Naples. I have seen a different forecast,

:13:39. > :13:42.though, and a couple of storms are loitering in the area for this

:13:43. > :13:45.afternoon but the forecast in Italy has been spectacularly wrong for the

:13:46. > :13:50.last two days so let's hope it is again today. And let's hope this man

:13:51. > :13:53.can finish the job, from a British point of view. One more win and

:13:54. > :13:59.Britain are through to the semifinals, and what a far cry from

:14:00. > :14:02.March of four years ago, when we all headed out to snowbound Vilnius and

:14:03. > :14:07.Britain lost to a nation with only for professionally ranked tennis

:14:08. > :14:11.players -- four professionally ranked tennis players in Lithuania.

:14:12. > :14:19.No shooting for the Davis Cup semifinals.

:14:20. > :14:24.Since that weekend, we have come back under Captain Leon Smith

:14:25. > :14:28.against Turkey, Tunisia, Luxembourg, Hungary and, at this

:14:29. > :14:34.stage, Britain are still in the lower divisions. Slowly but surely,

:14:35. > :14:34.through the groups, the Slovak Republic, Belgium, fantastic victory

:14:35. > :14:50.over Russia in Coventry... And Croatia last year, winning a

:14:51. > :14:54.play-off to get back into the world group and an historic win in the

:14:55. > :14:59.United States in February. And the comeback, I guess, complete, because

:15:00. > :15:00.Britain really hasn't known victories in the world group for so

:15:01. > :15:12.many years. A bit of luck for Murray in the

:15:13. > :15:25.opening game, hopefully it will set a bit of a tone for the day. Good

:15:26. > :15:28.morning, Dominic. Good morning. It looks like Andy already got a bit of

:15:29. > :15:37.the net cord luck. It certainly happened two days ago.

:15:38. > :16:15.Both sets of crowds are very loud early on in the match. The Italians

:16:16. > :16:50.are getting fired up, the Brits are fired up.

:16:51. > :16:55.You can see how close Andy Murray is on that second serve, stepping three

:16:56. > :17:02.or four feet inside the baseline to try and crunch that ball.

:17:03. > :17:11.Get him in defensive mode from the start.

:17:12. > :17:19.He might have a little bit of fear about him but Fognini of bubbled

:17:20. > :17:25.yesterday, because, admittedly it is only half court in the doubles, but

:17:26. > :17:29.Murray was belting it back at him from two feet from the baseline and

:17:30. > :17:37.then charging at him. He's not used to it.

:17:38. > :17:44.That is wild. Towards the end of the doubles yesterday, he whacked the

:17:45. > :17:50.ball into the Bay of Naples and that wasn't far behind. And the early

:17:51. > :17:55.break for Great Britain, the perfect start for Andy Murray and for the

:17:56. > :17:58.travelling supporters. And there we go. The boys were talking in a

:17:59. > :18:05.studio about the importance of a quick start to rattle this hot head

:18:06. > :18:10.of an Italian. We already see him chatting away to the captain, who

:18:11. > :18:16.could be in prolonged afternoon. -- in for a long afternoon.

:18:17. > :18:23.At least the way to think about it, really, is if there is ever a time

:18:24. > :18:26.to get broken, it is the first game. It gives you the most time to break

:18:27. > :18:34.back. It is still early days, a lot of tennis to play. But obviously not

:18:35. > :18:36.the best start. Andy Murray won the toss and elected to receive. That

:18:37. > :19:51.decision paying dividends. In that first and second serve, the

:19:52. > :19:54.crowd whistling when Andy missed the first serve, and that is what you

:19:55. > :20:00.expect. You haven't seen it the first two days, but you wouldn't be

:20:01. > :20:02.surprised if there is a point penalty at some stage. They are into

:20:03. > :20:26.this match and they will try and help in in any way possible.

:20:27. > :20:31.Co-commentator-macro That was a deep second serve from Murray.

:20:32. > :20:38.To hit that much power to get past Andy Murray, from that distance,

:20:39. > :21:08.that is a ferocious looking forehand.

:21:09. > :21:16.The different in positioning both men. Fognini very deep. Very

:21:17. > :21:22.choosing to stand as close to the baseline as possible. It will

:21:23. > :21:24.probably be the theme of the day. Leon Smith to the left, the British

:21:25. > :21:33.captain. Co-commentator-macro Looking very

:21:34. > :21:45.calm, but inside, the stomach is churning.

:21:46. > :21:51.Both players have come out very aggressive. You mentioned that they

:21:52. > :21:55.would. They are trying to settle in, but I think as the match

:21:56. > :21:58.progresses, they will get more and more clinical in their aggression.

:21:59. > :22:18.It is going to be a very good match, I think.

:22:19. > :22:30.JOHN LLOYD: That is a bad error. A very bad error, there. It is

:22:31. > :22:33.unusual. He has a flair player but break point on the second serve, he

:22:34. > :23:23.is better than that. That is still nerves creeping in.

:23:24. > :23:31.Well done, Fognini. What a rally that was. Expect a few of those

:23:32. > :23:35.exchanges over the next few hours. What a backhand on the stretch, he

:23:36. > :23:41.just afflicted with his wrist. That is the kind of shot he can pull out,

:23:42. > :23:45.not many people can do that -- he just flicked it. It was almost like

:23:46. > :23:50.Al forehand, there was so much bottom and honoured. -- bottom

:23:51. > :24:07.hand. Saved by Murray is favourite serve.

:24:08. > :24:12.That is the big advantage that Andy Murray has with his first serve, he

:24:13. > :24:15.can get cheap points. The dividends that can bring in a match, break

:24:16. > :24:19.point down, just throw the ball up and crack it in the corner. Not

:24:20. > :24:57.getting involved in a long rally. Another spectacular rally in the

:24:58. > :25:04.early stages. Fognini shovelling out those backhands. Goodness me, his

:25:05. > :25:08.defence is strong. That is an example, in that rally, of why he's

:25:09. > :25:12.13 in the world and one of the world's best play players, even

:25:13. > :25:17.though Heald MacLeay lost this point. Murray had to work him around

:25:18. > :25:23.the court just to grab that point. The quality we have seen already, if

:25:24. > :25:26.they can keep this pace, they might have to be carried up. -- carried

:25:27. > :25:45.off. The second serve stayed in, just. He

:25:46. > :26:00.has to make sure he accelerates on the second.

:26:01. > :26:06.That shot right there, that is going to be a very important one for Fabio

:26:07. > :26:10.Fognini, because Andy Murray covers the court so well but the one thing

:26:11. > :26:14.you might say is that when he goes back behind on the clay court, he

:26:15. > :26:18.isn't able to change direction as well as he does on the hard court.

:26:19. > :26:23.The clay-court specialists are much better at that so Fabio needs to do

:26:24. > :27:33.a lot more of that to get through Murray's defences.

:27:34. > :27:39.That is one of the rallies of the tennis year so far! You won't see

:27:40. > :27:59.anything better than this. The best stuff was nearer the start

:28:00. > :28:02.of it. How Fognini kept one ball alive, I don't think Murray was

:28:03. > :28:07.expecting it to come back and yet he hit the line with his response. This

:28:08. > :28:53.is only the second game! Steady on, folks.

:28:54. > :28:57.The crowd thought a previous shot of Murray's was wide but it was on the

:28:58. > :29:14.line. Fognini keeps the game alive. The start of this is continuing the

:29:15. > :29:22.theme of the weekend, a terrific contest between these two nations.

:29:23. > :29:23.Even Murray's straight set wins against Andreas Seppi was a hugely

:29:24. > :30:01.entertaining affair. A quarter of an hour played, Fognini

:30:02. > :30:07.has played some stunning tennis, and yet he has nothing to show for it.

:30:08. > :30:12.2-0 Britain. The message there that Murray threw out to the Italian,

:30:13. > :30:16.play your best stuff and you still don't break me. It is a big

:30:17. > :30:21.message, because Fognini, he can't play a better game than that,

:30:22. > :30:25.really. The pace, the movement, the defensive ability and then the

:30:26. > :30:58.attack as well, when he tried, and he still came up short.

:30:59. > :31:03.With the hitting going like this, if it keeps going like this, the fact

:31:04. > :31:08.that you mentioned, John, the previous matches this weekend, are

:31:09. > :31:11.you going to get affected by it? Who is going to start feeling it

:31:12. > :31:48.soonest? It could be difficult to keep up this kind of level.

:31:49. > :31:57.Those two forehands there in a row that Fognini hit were world-class,

:31:58. > :32:01.that is an understatement. Best in the world. That one, how he got that

:32:02. > :32:07.that deep and that hard and ran about half a mile to hit that one

:32:08. > :32:20.against Murray. Those are two devastating blows.

:32:21. > :32:26.There is that variety that we talked about as well. He has got all sorts

:32:27. > :32:28.of shots. He is unpredictable. It is going to be difficult to know what

:32:29. > :32:55.he's going to come up with. Good play from Murray. That is one

:32:56. > :33:02.way of stopping Fognini in long rallies. Fognini made the conscious

:33:03. > :33:06.effort to hit the second serve the hardest he has hit, he belted it,

:33:07. > :33:11.Murray took it even earlier and responded with such a short

:33:12. > :33:56.backswing and so much pace he could not do anything about it.

:33:57. > :34:03.Very good disguise, there, excellent disguise. Had a double hander

:34:04. > :34:09.prepared, held it for so long, and then at the last second.

:34:10. > :34:15.A very skilful player with a wonderful recent record on clay. A

:34:16. > :34:20.terrific record as well when representing his country in Davis

:34:21. > :34:24.Cup. But so, too, does Andy Murray. He is out there on his own today but

:34:25. > :34:31.of course he has got the support of his team-mates and the back-up GB

:34:32. > :34:35.staff, led by his captain, Leon Smith. This is something, we are

:34:36. > :34:39.going to have to support Andy as much as we can and get behind him.

:34:40. > :34:42.It is doing to take a big mental and physical effort to win this match

:34:43. > :34:50.over five sets against a clinical player. But Andy, funny, is a

:34:51. > :34:55.player. And I think Andy, his Davis Cup record is support. He has looked

:34:56. > :34:58.brilliant all weekend. -- it is superb. He is playing very well,

:34:59. > :35:07.improving all the time and he looks very good. He has done as well so

:35:08. > :35:11.far in this atmosphere, inside this temporary stadium, built right by

:35:12. > :35:14.the Bay of Naples. It is an established tennis club but the

:35:15. > :35:17.stands are not there and ran the year. They have done an excellent

:35:18. > :35:22.job with the infrastructure. There have been some problems with the

:35:23. > :35:28.court surface, far from ideal around the edges, as we have noticed in the

:35:29. > :35:31.last couple of days. Thankfully, no incidents in the top left corner as

:35:32. > :35:42.the lookout in the court, that is where the problem has been. Pascal

:35:43. > :35:46.Maria is the umpire, from France. Often having to take on a crowd

:35:47. > :35:54.control role as well as his officiating duties. I think any

:35:55. > :35:59.latecomers who have beam milling around the club getting some

:36:00. > :36:06.refreshments have heard the crowd and want a piece of the action, and

:36:07. > :36:19.quite right too. A super start to this. 2-1 with a break of serve.

:36:20. > :36:27.Best of five sets in the Davis Cup. So a long way to go. I hope you

:36:28. > :36:33.haven't got too much planned for the next couple of hours! We just know

:36:34. > :36:42.you are going to get hooked in by this.

:36:43. > :36:50.It is like going to a concert and they play their three best hits in

:36:51. > :36:54.the first three numbers! The crowd is the loudest it has been since the

:36:55. > :36:55.match started a few days ago. This is an animated crowd today,

:36:56. > :37:18.fantastic. He wanted the umpire to have a look.

:37:19. > :37:19.Needed to make absolutely certain, Pascal Maria is certain, definitely

:37:20. > :37:44.long. Trying to improvise there in some

:37:45. > :37:47.weird and wonderful way! Not quite sure what he was trying on that,

:37:48. > :37:48.where the feet were going, it looked interesting but he missed it by

:37:49. > :38:53.miles. Once again, just so nice when you

:38:54. > :38:59.get those points in a difficult game, so welcome, in comparison with

:39:00. > :39:02.Fognini, he has to earn every point on his serve. Which is a rarity on

:39:03. > :39:26.clay. Perhaps if you don't see much tennis

:39:27. > :39:29.for the rest of the year apart from around Wimbledon and this is an

:39:30. > :39:33.introduction to clay-court tennis, there is a huge difference. It is

:39:34. > :39:38.almost a different sport at times, the sliding, the recovery. You

:39:39. > :39:52.cannot do as much damage with serve. But you can do damage with spins,

:39:53. > :39:57.and that is the beauty of clay. When he hit a shot like that, he can do

:39:58. > :40:01.damage anywhere. The pace that he had to deal with their, and then

:40:02. > :40:11.timed it to hit a delicate drop shot from that distance. That is talent.

:40:12. > :40:18.Sometimes he has too much talent, he plays the wrong shot because he has

:40:19. > :40:20.20 different options. He then gets carried away and throws in a double

:40:21. > :40:30.fault. Sometimes you feel like, if you like

:40:31. > :40:36.telling him that, that great point you played was great but you do not

:40:37. > :40:38.get any bonus for it, it is only worth one point. The

:40:39. > :40:40.bread-and-butter for the next point is just as important, and then he

:40:41. > :40:54.throws in an ridiculous double four. Tennis over the years has been full

:40:55. > :40:57.of players with wild, natural talent, who maybe haven't been able

:40:58. > :41:03.to harness that developed the other skills required to grow as a top-10

:41:04. > :41:06.player. I wonder if he will look like someone like Stanislas Wawrinka

:41:07. > :41:11.who this year has become the complete package and has now won a

:41:12. > :41:15.Grand Slam? Fognini is not that far behind talent wise. Certainly not

:41:16. > :41:27.talent wise, it is just mentally wise.

:41:28. > :41:34.He has gone wide. I think it was Michael Jordan who once said that

:41:35. > :41:37.talent is the most overrated thing you can have a sportsman, there is

:41:38. > :41:42.so much more that you require. You need discipline, hard work, that

:41:43. > :41:47.mental fortitude in the right moments. That will get you so far,

:41:48. > :41:53.talent, but you cannot rely on it. You have to get the other aspects of

:41:54. > :42:01.love. -- other aspects as well. Which is what please Fognini with so

:42:02. > :42:05.much potential. The umpire is coming down to have a chat with Fabiola.

:42:06. > :42:10.Maybe the Italian captain has said, come on, mate, I need someone else

:42:11. > :42:15.to soak all this stuff up! Goodness me, she is going to burn itself out

:42:16. > :42:19.with all this chapter. Let's go to Russell courtside, what can you tell

:42:20. > :42:25.us? Our conditions? I caught your Perl conversation about -- the tail

:42:26. > :42:31.end of your conversation about Fognini, we have been enjoying the

:42:32. > :42:35.two-way banter between Fognini and the gentleman from Stirling

:42:36. > :42:42.University, we met him, earlier, some of them are singing songs about

:42:43. > :42:47.getting into Fognini's head and they are not gentlemanly but seem to be

:42:48. > :42:50.accurate right now. It is a two-way process and it is clearly

:42:51. > :42:54.distracting Fognini. We are used to seeing him behave like this on court

:42:55. > :42:58.and I think no one should take this for granted. You can suddenly

:42:59. > :43:01.flicked a switch and plate spectacular -- he can suddenly

:43:02. > :43:09.flicked the switch and play spectacular lake or tennis.

:43:10. > :43:14.Fognini, yes. So some of the British spectators are winding up the

:43:15. > :43:20.player. You might see it is good work, Murray, we don't! I love the

:43:21. > :43:27.fact that he is complaining about a brick in this crowd, that is causing

:43:28. > :43:33.him problems, -- a British person, when the Italians are a master at

:43:34. > :44:00.abusing you any way they can at the Davis Cup!

:44:01. > :44:07.I think that Fognini just wants to have a complaint about something.

:44:08. > :44:10.Running out of options, the court are in good nick, the line calls

:44:11. > :44:16.have been decent, the opponent has been not been relativity net call,

:44:17. > :44:18.so he has got to find something. -- the opponent has not been very lucky

:44:19. > :44:41.with his net calls. This is starting now, this is

:44:42. > :44:46.getting at. -- getting good. Murray, I think, was feeling a bit

:44:47. > :44:49.left out in the chat department with Pascal Maria. When you were watching

:44:50. > :44:54.the replay, he was having a few words. That is why there was brewing

:44:55. > :44:58.and that is why the crowd got on his back after the missed first serve.

:44:59. > :45:16.Suffice to say, they quite enjoyed the double-faulted.

:45:17. > :45:30.That is ridiculous! How did he get that? He slid, like, 15 metres

:45:31. > :45:34.there. This is just stunning. Look at the speed of him. And the depth

:45:35. > :45:53.on that shot. You have to be kidding.

:45:54. > :46:02.We are level now, 3-3. I thought at the beginning of the match that this

:46:03. > :46:11.might be the toughest crowd that Murray has ever played in front of.

:46:12. > :46:15.The first to -- two days, I was disappointed. This is what we are

:46:16. > :46:19.talking about now. Even Murray now, you can see it is getting to him

:46:20. > :46:22.now. He has got to stop this. Unfortunately, the more you

:46:23. > :46:25.complain, the more they will do it. You have got to get the umpire to

:46:26. > :46:31.give point penalties but unfortunately, you have just got to

:46:32. > :46:35.suck it up. It is starting to sound like the football crowd. They are

:46:36. > :46:40.all singing, chanting. This is what they do. If there are British band

:46:41. > :46:59.dishing and out to Fognini, we cannot complain. This is Davis Cup.

:47:00. > :47:06.The other thing is, we talk about the physicality, this is early days,

:47:07. > :47:10.if they continue to have rallies like this, and covering this much

:47:11. > :47:13.court and it gets into a fourth set, yesterday was a tough day for

:47:14. > :47:17.Murray. Not just physically, but the mental side of winning two different

:47:18. > :47:28.matches in a Grand Slam, it takes it out of you.

:47:29. > :47:31.This set looks more and more important every point. If Murray can

:47:32. > :47:41.win this... If you can quieten the crowd down,

:47:42. > :47:45.but if he loses this first set, we are going to be in for a real

:47:46. > :47:49.battle. The physicality required is a different one. Some people don't

:47:50. > :47:55.understand this, Murray is extremely fit. But clay court fitness is

:47:56. > :47:59.different, you use your groin, your hips with all the sliding. He has

:48:00. > :48:01.not had time to go through the fit this book to get used to it. -- the

:48:02. > :48:23.fitness block. Well, this is a run of 9.0 now for

:48:24. > :48:31.Fabio Fognini. -- it is a run of nine points in a row. But he is also

:48:32. > :48:37.capable of losing nine points in a row. That is his unpredictability,

:48:38. > :48:40.so Murray had to stay close. You have to soak it up and wait until it

:48:41. > :48:44.turns, because it will turn. You have just got to be ready to take

:48:45. > :48:49.advantage when it does. And keep close enough.

:48:50. > :49:05.When he is on a run, he is dangerous.

:49:06. > :49:13.He takes the lead for the first time in the match.

:49:14. > :49:18.Talking about the difference of a clay court, and relatively slow clay

:49:19. > :49:23.courts compared with a grass court, or an indoor hard court, for

:49:24. > :49:27.example. That is where, to hit this amount of winners against someone

:49:28. > :49:32.who defends as well as Andy Murray, we cannot overstate how investors

:49:33. > :49:39.that is from Fognini. Absolutely. The shotmaking, the pace he gets on

:49:40. > :49:42.the ball, but both ways, Murray hits winners as well. These two are

:49:43. > :49:48.supreme athletes. To get the ball past them, it has got to be very

:49:49. > :49:51.good. One big thing that Andy does, he is someone who tries to

:49:52. > :49:56.anticipate where it is going to hit. He is going to rule out covering

:49:57. > :50:01.parts of the court that are difficult to hit into but Fognini

:50:02. > :50:08.can hit into parts of those courts. He cannot cover the whole court, but

:50:09. > :50:14.if Fognini can hit into the 25th 20 does not cover, it is a difficult

:50:15. > :50:17.task. It is probably the most difficult match the umpire has had

:50:18. > :50:22.to officiate by the way. He is going to have to take some decisions that

:50:23. > :50:28.the crowds are not going to like with warnings and penalties. That is

:50:29. > :50:33.not easy either. It is easy to get intimidated by a crowd like this. At

:50:34. > :50:38.least he has got the experience, Pascal Maria, one of the senior

:50:39. > :50:44.officials on the tour. You do not get crowds like this in normal

:50:45. > :50:51.tournaments. Maybe they anticipate it by appointing the umpires that

:50:52. > :50:57.they did. It is something we can go into over the course of the rest of

:50:58. > :51:00.this match. Andy Murray hasn't got too many really stand out victories

:51:01. > :51:04.on clay in his career. He has done well. But you wonder how hard this

:51:05. > :52:21.will be. Very good there from Fognini, not

:52:22. > :52:24.letting Andy get into a position where he can attack. You've got a

:52:25. > :53:02.little bit impatient and went for that backhand.

:53:03. > :54:03.He needs a couple of big serves here.

:54:04. > :54:10.It is on the line, on the line so many times. This is tense, this, it

:54:11. > :55:03.really is. I tell you what, that was a

:55:04. > :55:07.beautiful volley. He did well to dig himself out of that point, he was in

:55:08. > :55:14.big trouble in a couple of occasions and that Molly, that was special. --

:55:15. > :55:21.the volley. This is a wonderful dipping shot from Fognini. The

:55:22. > :55:23.volley right on the baseline, he had to dig this one out, look at that.

:55:24. > :56:01.It was a shoelace volley. I can't believe he went to that. Two

:56:02. > :57:00.immense points in a row that Murray has just played.

:57:01. > :57:07.The shotmaking here is just exceptional. Murray hit another

:57:08. > :57:13.couple of lines in that rally. He just hung in there. This one here

:57:14. > :57:17.slightly short. But again, you just don't expect someone to get round

:57:18. > :57:22.that quick and hit the off forehand that well. That was like Rafael

:57:23. > :57:50.Nadal. It would be on the other side with him, but.

:57:51. > :58:02.The break is Italy's. And Fognini has won the last four games. Andy

:58:03. > :58:07.has not got a lot of those big serves that you mentioned, those

:58:08. > :58:11.cheap points he needed. That brings relief. When you are playing 20, 30

:58:12. > :58:20.shot rallies, and you are sucking down at, it is hard to then get

:58:21. > :58:23.that, big strong serve you need. It also makes me worried when you see

:58:24. > :58:26.someone missing serves in the net, they are not growing up after the

:58:27. > :58:31.ball, it is a sign of maybe the physicality, after these long

:58:32. > :58:38.rallies, being a little bit winded. If you miss serve, if it goes out

:58:39. > :58:43.rather than at the net, at least you are going after the ball. You think

:58:44. > :58:45.this set is over but I'm not convinced that he is necessarily

:58:46. > :58:57.going to hold this serve. A couple more of those kind of

:58:58. > :59:04.returns could be pretty useful. That is what you called a lovely mishit.

:59:05. > :59:12.Three more of those, very sorry, not really! Your match predictions have

:59:13. > :59:28.been pretty spot on, Mr Lloyd. I get it right once every ten!

:59:29. > :59:40.That is played so well, it really is.

:59:41. > :59:46.It is amazing how the reverse at the beginning, even though the games

:59:47. > :59:50.were tough then, Murray was on the baseline dictating play. And now he

:59:51. > :59:52.is getting pushed back with the depth and the angles. The Italian is

:59:53. > :00:29.throwing them out at him. UMPIRE: Out.

:00:30. > :00:58.Great call. I think one of the things Andy

:00:59. > :01:05.mentioned when he came back from that back injury on the clay it is

:01:06. > :01:12.that twisting motion it requires from your body. When you're doing so

:01:13. > :01:19.many shots, if you're a little bit weaker, it is harder to keep doing

:01:20. > :01:27.that, shot after shot. First set Italy. 6-3 from three - one down.

:01:28. > :01:33.What are run from Fabio Fognini. Five games in a row, just trying to

:01:34. > :01:40.work out the points here in those games. I make it that only five

:01:41. > :01:44.points for Undine and -- for Andy Murray. Mental arithmetic not the

:01:45. > :01:51.strong point for me. Five points from 19. I'll tell you what, that is

:01:52. > :01:56.some run from Fognini, and the Italians loved it. Whatever facts

:01:57. > :02:04.and figures of that first set, Italy one, great Britain nil. This is

:02:05. > :02:10.another example of how sport tears every sinew of your mind, and, boy,

:02:11. > :02:30.have we got a lot to show you in the next few months.

:02:31. > :02:41.A scorching summer of sport, right here on the BBC.

:02:42. > :02:47.And the summer starts on the banks of the Thames later on this

:02:48. > :02:52.afternoon with the boat race. Our coverage starts at 4:30pm. Back to

:02:53. > :02:58.glorious sunshine in the southern half of Italy. But the sun is

:02:59. > :03:02.shining on that man at the moment. John Lloyd, I wonder, this is when

:03:03. > :03:07.the captain has a part to play. What does Leon Smith say to Andy Murray

:03:08. > :03:13.at the moment? He will be saying, look, the fellow played out of his

:03:14. > :03:17.mind there for a few games. He can have these spurts but he won't keep

:03:18. > :03:23.this up so you've got to hang in there. Your first serve percentage,

:03:24. > :03:26.you've got to get that up because it has dropped dramatically. Hang in

:03:27. > :03:31.there mentally because you're the man. You have won two Grand Slams,

:03:32. > :03:40.and this guy will go if you keep at him. Andy looked a bit negative at

:03:41. > :03:45.the changeover, so Leon Smith has had to have done a lot of good work

:03:46. > :04:09.here. He needs his first serve, that is for sure.

:04:10. > :04:21.The first time that Murray has lost the first set in a Davis cup single

:04:22. > :04:27.since 2007. Recovered that day at Wimbledon to beat Marin Cilic. Such

:04:28. > :04:46.a strong singles record, both of these men have in this competition.

:04:47. > :06:08.Very impressive how he can change the pace of the game. Rallying,

:06:09. > :06:14.rallying, then, suddenly, it doesn't look like he is loading, then he

:06:15. > :06:19.rips a great big shot. It is amazing, the pace he gets off that

:06:20. > :06:50.swing. It is so short and it rockets off court.

:06:51. > :06:58.He did superbly to dig it out. This is a key game, it really is. Fognini

:06:59. > :07:29.has no intention of letting Murray back in.

:07:30. > :07:47.Vital. Really vital. It seems a long time ago since he won his last game.

:07:48. > :07:57.In the first set, he is a good player, Murray, on all surfaces. He

:07:58. > :08:01.is world class on grass courts, but not on clay courts when you look at

:08:02. > :08:05.his results. His best clay-court results? If you throw it out there,

:08:06. > :08:10.it is hard to pull them down from the sky. He is a very good

:08:11. > :08:24.clay-court player, at I think the problem that Andy has is the

:08:25. > :08:31.sliding. These guys that are used to playing on clay courts, they are

:08:32. > :08:37.used to sliding. Murray struggles. But I think he will do better on

:08:38. > :08:42.clay. There is a lot in him left on clay. I wouldn't say he has mastered

:08:43. > :08:53.the surface, but he can do better than he has done.

:08:54. > :09:01.You remember the great Pete Sampras, he got to one clay-court semifinals

:09:02. > :09:07.in all the years he dominated. That was it from him. Obviously, they are

:09:08. > :09:17.totally different players, but sometimes a surface can get to you.

:09:18. > :09:24.He has beaten Marin Cilic a few times. Del Potro in Rome. But that

:09:25. > :09:41.was retirement. This would be his best victory if he

:09:42. > :09:46.could come back to win. I think considering the circumstances, I

:09:47. > :09:52.agree totally. Apart from the fact he is playing a world-class player,

:09:53. > :09:58.but considering the circumstances, after playing two matches yesterday.

:09:59. > :10:03.He came close to beating Novak Djokovic under the lights in Rome.

:10:04. > :10:08.What a night that was three years ago, it went to set tie-break. It

:10:09. > :10:47.was stunning match, I remember it well.

:10:48. > :10:50.He played a semifinal or of Rafa Nadal in Monte Carlo, 2011 -- with

:10:51. > :11:08.the Rafa Nadal. Murray was actually injured ahead of

:11:09. > :11:12.that. He had a painkilling injection. It was only when the

:11:13. > :11:14.effects of that started to wear off late in the match, that was the only

:11:15. > :11:32.stage when Nadal pulled clear. That is Fognini again at his best!

:11:33. > :11:38.Incredible. Let's not forget, Andy hasn't played a lot on clay. He

:11:39. > :11:44.missed out on clay court last season. So it is almost two years

:11:45. > :11:55.since he played consecutive matches on clay.

:11:56. > :12:09.To then tried to fight against a guy who was just born and bred on the

:12:10. > :12:13.staff... -- on the stuff. The point you made about the tailed clay-court

:12:14. > :12:17.season, it is so relevant because he has come from the North American

:12:18. > :12:31.hard courts. Pretty dramatic change in conditions.

:12:32. > :12:39.Fognini is just making him work and work. Andy has chosen not to play

:12:40. > :12:43.Monte Carlo because he says he needs time to prepare for the clay-court

:12:44. > :12:47.season. So he needs to go out and do a lot of fitness training to propel

:12:48. > :12:51.himself by doing things like slide board, lunges, side lunges, core

:12:52. > :13:21.exercises. Just long on that occasion. Murray

:13:22. > :13:23.is a relieved man because Fognini again was on a string of successive

:13:24. > :15:32.points. And that was a chance. Yes, that is out. Murray was

:15:33. > :15:37.blocking the view of the line judge and Pascal Maria was straight on it.

:15:38. > :15:42.And he rarely gets a call wrong. The locals won't like it but that is a

:15:43. > :15:48.very good call from the umpire. It is great to see the umpire getting

:15:49. > :15:52.involved. Because now with the new Hawk-eye, a lot of umpires will sit

:15:53. > :15:58.quiet, even if they are not sure, because the player will use the

:15:59. > :16:21.Hawk-eye. So, maybe, they are a little lazy sometimes.

:16:22. > :16:29.Murray might have got the better of the early exchanges this match. But

:16:30. > :16:35.make no mistake. This is going to be very tough to win this one. Fognini

:16:36. > :16:39.wants to keep the tie alive for Italy. The way he is playing, he has

:16:40. > :18:00.got every chance of doing so. Murray is very much pushing for the

:18:01. > :18:03.lines, you consent it. He knows he has to. He doesn't want to be stuck

:18:04. > :18:29.out here grinding all day. Big hold. Very big. He's got to take

:18:30. > :18:35.his chances because he is not going to be able to outlast in a rally for

:18:36. > :18:40.me Fognini because he is so good at hitting the balls high and heavy,

:18:41. > :18:45.then changing direction and hitting the drop shot. Andy hasn't been

:18:46. > :18:50.getting some any free points on the serve, Fognini is standing so far

:18:51. > :18:59.back to return it. So, Andy has to try to step in. Can he keep that

:19:00. > :19:05.up? That is the key. Davis cup quarterfinal in Naples. Friday was

:19:06. > :19:13.good, Saturday was even better. And today is shaping up... Well,

:19:14. > :19:21.possibly, are we shaping up for a fifth and deciding rubber? The

:19:22. > :19:25.British fans at urging Andy on. But Fognini is playing sparkling stuff,

:19:26. > :19:32.the sort of tennis that has taken him to the verge of the world's top

:19:33. > :19:35.ten. We are talking about the physical preparation and the

:19:36. > :19:40.physical changes with Dominic Inglot, top 20 doubles player in the

:19:41. > :19:44.world, just talk about the effort required to force the ball through

:19:45. > :19:51.on the clay as opposed to on grass or hard court. That is putting extra

:19:52. > :19:55.effort into your clip rotation. It depends on how you hit the ball.

:19:56. > :20:01.Fognini uses a lot of wrist and arm. That is how he creates the top

:20:02. > :20:05.spin, working from the arm. On grass, he's never going to be that

:20:06. > :20:09.good whereas Andy creates a lot of power from his hips and waist. And

:20:10. > :20:16.where he needs that extra power, that extra work, unfortunately, it

:20:17. > :20:21.is going to get tired faster than your arm. As a result, he's much

:20:22. > :20:23.better on the hard courts because he can generate from his waist and

:20:24. > :21:08.hips. Well, the cheekiness and precision.

:21:09. > :23:26.How about that? I am just thinking about how Andy

:23:27. > :23:32.could change up his game here to try to change the momentum. I think back

:23:33. > :23:36.to the French open that Tim Henman played. One of the tactics he used

:23:37. > :23:47.was a short slice to bring in his opponent. What a bounce that was.

:23:48. > :24:13.That must have been a crater! I'd love to see that again.

:24:14. > :24:29.It was 2004. Henman, he was well up in his semifinal. Specifically, you

:24:30. > :24:32.remember the slice? That is what Andy does phenomenally, great at the

:24:33. > :25:20.passing shot. Interesting remembering that year.

:25:21. > :25:29.We had the Goran Ivanisevic final in 2001 when Pete Sampras was around.

:25:30. > :25:32.Lleyton Hewitt, then Federer. It was ironic, I thought he was going to

:25:33. > :25:36.win them because he should've won that semifinals. I can't remember

:25:37. > :26:01.who won the finals. It was a one-hit wonder, anyway. He

:26:02. > :26:19.won Wimbledon. He had a good backhand.

:26:20. > :26:28.Two semifinals for Tim Henman that year, another petition favourite,

:26:29. > :26:33.Elena Baltacha, retired, and now with problems of the court to deal

:26:34. > :26:42.with and the supporters have a message for her that we certainly

:26:43. > :26:47.echo. All the best. A very successful and positive recovery for

:26:48. > :26:49.your health issues. The tennis club of Napoli, right on the bay, what a

:26:50. > :27:02.setting. Fognini, a lot more level-headed. He

:27:03. > :27:08.was riled by that British supporter. And, really, the tide turned from

:27:09. > :27:14.that moment. Once he had lost his rag and had a go at everybody, he

:27:15. > :27:15.has come into form. Maybe that is what he needs, he needs to lose a

:27:16. > :28:07.little bit of... Reasonable shot, that was Tim

:28:08. > :29:01.Henman's best shot. He made that look very easy.

:29:02. > :29:06.That is good from Murray, reminiscent of the early stages,

:29:07. > :29:42.stepping into the court, on the return.

:29:43. > :29:47.He took the ball so early, then he hit a great shot. It shows that it

:29:48. > :30:26.is still not good enough. Three deep returns in a row for Andy

:30:27. > :30:30.Murray. Now he has got break point. He has worked so hard to get to this

:30:31. > :31:10.position, soaked up so much pressure.

:31:11. > :31:13.He needs all the energy he can get right now. He mustn't waste too much

:31:14. > :31:35.shouting. That was actually a better second

:31:36. > :31:45.serve though. Got a bit more pace on it, so Murray, a little bit. He has

:31:46. > :31:50.not even got a first serve in for a while. Obviously this is a good

:31:51. > :31:51.opportunity for Murray in this game. A lot of second serves to have a go

:31:52. > :32:09.at. That is hard, John, isn't it, when

:32:10. > :32:12.you are behind on the scoreboard. And short on a little bit of

:32:13. > :32:15.confidence to hand the ambition to go for a shot like that inside the

:32:16. > :33:17.service box. He took that on the volley, Fognini,

:33:18. > :33:23.didn't he? Strain shot, he actually hit it pretty well. -- eight strange

:33:24. > :34:09.shots. Another key game in the context of the time.

:34:10. > :34:56.I think Murray was still recovering from the previous point there.

:34:57. > :35:00.Getting some air into his lungs. When you're playing this type of

:35:01. > :35:17.match, the 22nd rule goes very quickly!

:35:18. > :35:26.His drop shots have been exquisite today, Fognini. Choosing the right

:35:27. > :35:34.moment to play the shot is the first thing. Working out whether you want

:35:35. > :35:38.to go down the line or a crosscourt is the next. Anticipating, perhaps,

:35:39. > :35:43.what shop might come back at you. Should your opponent get there. That

:35:44. > :35:56.is number three. Then you have got to execute it.

:35:57. > :36:04.And still, they are going with serve. Couple of really big games in

:36:05. > :36:06.this set for both men on serve. Murray withstanding the pressure in

:36:07. > :37:46.Game three and Fognini in Game six. There it is again. That is just

:37:47. > :37:50.class. You can drop shots so well on either side. The backhand drop shot

:37:51. > :37:53.is phenomenal but he has it on the forehand as well. A great disguise,

:37:54. > :37:57.he looks like he is going to whack one of his big forehands, but as Don

:37:58. > :38:02.would say, he has got such a short backswing, we have no idea he is

:38:03. > :38:44.going to hit a drop shot. He abbreviate it and there it is.

:38:45. > :38:50.That is huge hitting. That is a Grand Slam winner, the confidence to

:38:51. > :39:02.take on those shots at 0-30. But he knows it is going to take

:39:03. > :39:21.tennis like that to salvage this match.

:39:22. > :39:28.That is what he needs to do, he needs to step in and say, I do not

:39:29. > :39:30.want any part of this, the rally heavy and hard, I want to take it

:39:31. > :40:00.early and take it to him. Those three points, when you sing

:40:01. > :40:04.them together and examine the shots that Murray has played, it is the

:40:05. > :40:09.best sequence in the contest so far. He is stepping in, changing it up,

:40:10. > :40:12.hitting hard and fast and flat and it is working. He did that at the

:40:13. > :40:45.beginning of the first set for a few games but could not keep it up.

:40:46. > :40:54.Trying to stay away from the forehand a lot more, isn't he? Look

:40:55. > :40:58.how far back Fognini was standing on that return. Andy is not getting any

:40:59. > :41:01.of those three points on the serve any more, he is kicking them in and

:41:02. > :42:25.hoping they will take the next ball early.

:42:26. > :42:30.This is tough. Every point, every game is tough. It is best of five

:42:31. > :42:35.sets, remember, there is a lot of tennis to be played. Just a little

:42:36. > :42:39.note for you, in a few minutes, we are going to be switching channels.

:42:40. > :42:44.So get prepared with the remote control, it will be over there, down

:42:45. > :43:38.the back of the sofa! In about three minutes, we will be over on BBC One.

:43:39. > :43:44.That is clay-court tennis, it is tough. Only had a set and a half and

:43:45. > :43:47.it feels like they have been out there watching for four hours. I do

:43:48. > :43:51.not mean that in a negative way, it is amazing tennis but it seems so

:43:52. > :43:56.long already and they have barely started the match. Assessed and a

:43:57. > :44:00.half, that is all it has been. -- eight set and a half. The

:44:01. > :44:04.physicality every rally, so much movement. The toughest surface on

:44:05. > :44:36.the world to move on. It has gone long, it has gone long.

:44:37. > :44:43.And Fognini now leads by a set and a break. And Murray tried so hard to

:44:44. > :44:52.pierce the defences in the forehand corner but could not do it.

:44:53. > :44:58.STUDIO: those of you who are switching on to watch a relaxing

:44:59. > :45:02.Davis Cup tie, sorry about that! Sorry
