:00:28. > :00:40.And Time was when Great Britain Davis Cup team, I desire to express

:00:41. > :00:41.you should have turned up here tonight in such large numbers. Then

:00:42. > :00:57.hard tonight in such large numbers. Then

:00:58. > :01:16.Britain were back in the big time. But up

:01:17. > :01:40.Only time will tell. This is where present. Great Britain once again

:01:41. > :01:44.Only time will tell. This is where the drama will unfold. We are here

:01:45. > :01:48.at the Flanders Expo in Ghent and it promises to create

:01:49. > :01:51.at the Flanders Expo in Ghent and it atmosphere. 30,000 people here, many

:01:52. > :01:55.British fans have made the journey and determined to make their breath

:01:56. > :01:58.and svelte. The curtain is about to come down on this event and we can

:01:59. > :02:02.expect come down on this event and we can

:02:03. > :02:07.afternoon. The Davis Cup has been Andy Murray's focus all year. It is

:02:08. > :02:31.the final event of the year for the tennis players and it is known as

:02:32. > :02:34.the World Cup of tennis. Britain has won the Davis Cup nine times but the

:02:35. > :02:36.last victory was in 1936, 79 years ago. Belgium are looking to lift the

:02:37. > :02:39.trophy for the first time. For those wondering where Ghent is, we are in

:02:40. > :02:42.north-west Belgium with Bruce 30 miles to the north and Brussels 30

:02:43. > :02:44.miles to the south. We are 210 miles from Wimbledon and 630 miles from

:02:45. > :02:46.Dunblane. This is the scene. The curtain is about to come down this

:02:47. > :02:51.afternoon. The opening ceremony will take place here at the Flanders Expo

:02:52. > :02:55.before the two mangrove singles matches get underway. Belgium

:02:56. > :02:59.against Great Britain, wonderful cheers all around this Flanders

:03:00. > :03:05.Expo, everyone so excited. The Davis Cup means so much to these proud

:03:06. > :03:07.nations, but now only two are in the final, Belgium against Great

:03:08. > :03:16.Britain, and it will make history either way. With me here, two men

:03:17. > :03:21.who certainly know what the Davis Cup final is all about. Jamie Baker

:03:22. > :03:28.and John Lloyd. First, let's see what will happen here.

:03:29. > :03:36.What a way to start this Davis Cup final! I said we were in for a huge

:03:37. > :03:40.surprise, I didn't expect that, that the players and everybody would be

:03:41. > :03:45.out there. Jamie, this is so special for Great Britain, it means so much

:03:46. > :03:51.to British tennis to be in the final. It is. So much attention on

:03:52. > :03:55.Wimbledon, but the following this has created, to have Great Britain

:03:56. > :03:59.in the Davis Cup final, is that saluting massive. John, you've

:04:00. > :04:05.played in the Davis Cup final. It means so much more to represent your

:04:06. > :04:09.country. Absolutely. It's always special when you hear your name

:04:10. > :04:13.being announced. Great Britain, when you go out there, and to hear these

:04:14. > :04:18.players now. Can you imagine what they are feeling right now? What an

:04:19. > :04:34.amazing achievement by both teams. Very special moment. Andy Murray!

:04:35. > :04:40.A point to the British fans who have made the journey because Andy has a

:04:41. > :04:44.way said how important it is to have the fans. At home in the last three,

:04:45. > :04:47.but a wee said how important it is to have the fans. At home in the

:04:48. > :04:49.last three, but away this time so expecting a lot from the British

:04:50. > :04:55.fans who have made the journey to Belgium. What a magnificent five

:04:56. > :04:59.years Leon Smith has had in charge. Now for the officials being

:05:00. > :05:04.introduced. What about the Belgian team? They are not really that

:05:05. > :05:10.well-known. I suppose the best known of all is David Goffin, the world

:05:11. > :05:14.number 16. He's had a fantastic year, very consistent at the grand

:05:15. > :05:18.slams, up to 16 in the world. Their route to the final, they've been

:05:19. > :05:23.pretty lucky. They played Switzerland in the first round,

:05:24. > :05:27.Canada in the second round. Federer and Wawrinka did not play for

:05:28. > :05:36.Switzerland and posters and Raonic did not play for Canada. They have

:05:37. > :05:40.been a bit lucky. -- Pospisil. Delmer Munns is the man playing Andy

:05:41. > :05:49.Murray today. Ranked 108 in the world. -- Bemelmans. We'll expect to

:05:50. > :05:52.see Steve Darcis, a huge cheer for him. Four times he's come through in

:05:53. > :06:06.the fifth and final match to keep Belgium in the final match. This is

:06:07. > :06:10.their number one, David Goffin. And the captain, as well. A big day for

:06:11. > :06:17.David Goffin as well, the pressure is on him today. No question. He

:06:18. > :06:21.knows when he goes against Kyle Edmund, if he loses the tie is

:06:22. > :06:24.basically over. A lot of pressure on him because everybody expects them

:06:25. > :06:28.to win. He has to win. Going up against somebody he doesn't know

:06:29. > :06:32.much about. Hopefully Kyle Edmund will open his shoulders and have a

:06:33. > :06:36.real go. It could be dangerous for the Belgian number one. Not easy

:06:37. > :06:40.when you're at home and you're playing someone everyone says you

:06:41. > :06:43.should be comfortably. Yes. And he made a point of

:06:44. > :06:48.should be comfortably. Yes. And he single player, they've never played

:06:49. > :06:52.the Davis Cup final. Goffin is a strong favourite for the first

:06:53. > :06:59.match. But it's a lot of pressure, huge pressure. If he doesn't win,

:07:00. > :07:02.the tie is basically over. A bigger corrosion and the Royal occasion

:07:03. > :07:07.because the king and queen of Belgium are here. -- a big occasion.

:07:08. > :07:13.They are being introduced to the British team first. That makes it

:07:14. > :07:18.special as well, doesn't it? A big occasion, to have the king and queen

:07:19. > :07:22.of Belgium. This atmosphere, you always wonder about the way teams.

:07:23. > :07:27.We know in Britain how we stage these ties, how will Belgium stage

:07:28. > :07:31.this type? What a job so far, the atmosphere is unbelievable and this

:07:32. > :07:38.makes it extra space. I would add to that. Kyle Edmund, his first Davis

:07:39. > :07:41.Cup match. It's a fantastic occasion. All these things they are

:07:42. > :07:45.doing before the match not Royalty coming out, it's a long time to be

:07:46. > :07:49.stood on the court thinking about this match. I'll be interested to

:07:50. > :07:52.see how he deals with it. It will either help him or hinder him

:07:53. > :07:56.because in some ways it could take his mind away from it, because

:07:57. > :08:02.sometimes sitting in the locker room waiting for the call can be worse.

:08:03. > :08:05.Yeah. I know the Britain team had a couple of other staff members

:08:06. > :08:10.hanging out with him all day to keep him relaxed. You don't want your

:08:11. > :08:15.mind to wander too much. When you think of what is about to happen,

:08:16. > :08:19.the final of the Davis Cup, it can get to anyone, let alone someone

:08:20. > :08:22.making his debut, but I think he will do fine. It's wonderful they

:08:23. > :08:26.are creating this atmosphere. We talk about what it means for British

:08:27. > :08:41.tennis, but for Belgium, how they've come through in the other half of

:08:42. > :08:43.the draw is quite spectacular, their rise up the rankings. Exactly.

:08:44. > :08:46.Although the big guns didn't turn out for Switzerland and Canada, you

:08:47. > :08:49.can only beat he was in front of you. This is like a Belgium football

:08:50. > :08:51.match. It will be fantastic over the weekend, let's hope it's this noisy.

:08:52. > :08:55.It plays such a part. We talk at Wimbledon about the crowd getting

:08:56. > :09:00.behind Andy. This is like every time a match is played. Obviously Andy is

:09:01. > :09:04.the experienced player and he will love this atmosphere. None of the

:09:05. > :09:08.other members have come up against a crowd like this and it's

:09:09. > :09:11.intimidating. You either embrace it or you don't and I hope our boys in

:09:12. > :09:15.brace the occasion. I think they will, they have a very experienced

:09:16. > :09:20.captain and that will help and I think we'll do very well and win the

:09:21. > :09:28.cup. The captain is on the court with you. Leon knows Andy Murray

:09:29. > :09:31.very well because he coached him for a number of years and he's now

:09:32. > :09:34.mentoring Kyle Edmund. He has a lot of input on the court. He knows Kyle

:09:35. > :09:40.very well. Leon has been involved with the LTA for about ten years.

:09:41. > :09:46.He's known him since he was ten or 11, Kyle Edmund. They are friends.

:09:47. > :09:50.In this atmosphere, especially if Kyle does get one or two chances in

:09:51. > :09:54.the match, to have a calming influence on the bench to say,

:09:55. > :10:01.forget about everything else, this is a tennis match, you have a

:10:02. > :10:06.chance. You can feel the atmosphere here. It's so intense and you can

:10:07. > :10:11.understand why Andy Murray has made this his priority in some ways this

:10:12. > :10:16.year. It's a once-in-a-lifetime to win the Davis Cup for your nation.

:10:17. > :10:20.Wimbledon is great, US Open is spectacular, obviously, any Grand

:10:21. > :10:24.Slam, but the Davis Cup for your country and this might be our one

:10:25. > :10:28.and only chance. We have to look at it as a big chance for Great Britain

:10:29. > :10:30.and every player knows that. They are excited. The atmosphere is

:10:31. > :10:36.unbelievable. What an occasion. # God save our gracious Queen

:10:37. > :10:47.Long live our noble Queen # God save the Queen

:10:48. > :10:58.# Send her victorious # Happy and glorious

:10:59. > :11:09.# Long to reign over us # God save the Queen. #

:11:10. > :11:24.# O dierbaar Belgie, O heilig land der Vad'ren

:11:54. > :12:15.dat g' onbevreesd moogt spreken # Voor Vorst

:12:16. > :12:25.voor Vrijheid en voor Recht. # CHEERING AND APPLAUSE.

:12:26. > :15:15.I say they come in here as favourites, and they really do! The

:15:16. > :15:20.biggest difference in this match compared to the others is that you

:15:21. > :15:26.would say Great Britain are stronger favourites than in the doubles

:15:27. > :15:32.match. For Belgium it will almost certainly be Bemelmans and Darcis.

:15:33. > :15:40.In the previous match, the USA had the Bryan brothers, they all had

:15:41. > :15:46.strong teams compared to here. Having said that, it is on a clay

:15:47. > :15:49.court and that can be a leveller. Also security has certainly been a

:15:50. > :15:55.big talking point here following the tragic events in Paris two weeks ago

:15:56. > :16:00.and also Brussels being on high alert. Let's go live to our

:16:01. > :16:06.correspondent Russell Fuller who can tell us more. The security operation

:16:07. > :16:12.changed a lot in the light of those attacks on Paris on the 13th and

:16:13. > :16:24.there was a lot of anxiety, understandably, amongst the players

:16:25. > :16:29.before they left the UK. Leon Smith was the focal point he was the 1

:16:30. > :16:35.taking soundings from the players and he was given advice by the Lawn

:16:36. > :16:38.Tennis Association. I never ever detected any sense that the players

:16:39. > :16:43.did not want to make the journey. Once they arrived I think they felt

:16:44. > :16:47.reassured about the level of security. If you wander around the

:16:48. > :16:52.city centre, it has felt quite sleepy always, wet and cold in

:16:53. > :17:03.November just before the Christmas fairs kick in. Very peaceful.

:17:04. > :17:08.Outside, sniffer dogs and explosives experts and people being frisked at

:17:09. > :17:12.the entrance. But once the security have done their job the people

:17:13. > :17:19.inside this arena have made sure that the fans can relax and enjoy a

:17:20. > :17:23.top-class sporting event. 10%, we were told, was the British

:17:24. > :17:30.allegation. Looking at this lot, we've got more than our fair share

:17:31. > :17:33.again! We certainly have indeed. But arriving here, having our bags

:17:34. > :17:37.checked the money security was very good and certainly not over the top.

:17:38. > :17:46.What a big moment this is for this young man, Kyle Edmund. A few little

:17:47. > :17:49.tips from his captain Leon Smith. Coming out for the coin toss. You

:17:50. > :17:54.just wonder what is going through his mind, because he has played in

:17:55. > :17:56.the French Open and in the Grand Slams, but this is way ahead of

:17:57. > :18:03.anything, this is the biggest match of his career. Absolutely by miles.

:18:04. > :18:07.On Wednesday night he found out he was definitely playing. Very

:18:08. > :18:12.excited, trying to focus. Now it really is a question of, it really

:18:13. > :18:17.is a question of almost not thinking about this as the Davis Cup Final,

:18:18. > :18:24.purely about the match. Just about his serve and his forehand. Can he

:18:25. > :18:29.make Goffin feel a bit of pressure? What would your advice be, John,

:18:30. > :18:33.first time in a Davis Cup Final? You would prefer if he had had a couple

:18:34. > :18:38.of matches under his belt going into the Davis Cup Final. But as Jamie

:18:39. > :18:43.was saying, embraced the occasion. Go out there and play the way you

:18:44. > :18:46.can play, open your shoulders up, look to the bench and we will keep

:18:47. > :18:50.giving you encouragement and support and just have a go, this is a great

:18:51. > :18:56.occasion for you and play the way you can play. Just go out there and

:18:57. > :19:02.embrace the occasion. It sounds so easy when you put it like that! Kyle

:19:03. > :19:06.Wilber you only the six-man in 115 years to make his debut in a Davis

:19:07. > :19:10.Cup Final and none of them have won a live rubber!

:19:11. > :19:17.Here we are on the brink of the Davis Cup Final and you are about to

:19:18. > :19:21.make your debut. How does it feel? It's obviously very exciting for me

:19:22. > :19:26.personally to get given my debut call-up for Great Britain, and to be

:19:27. > :19:33.in the final as well, this experience is exciting. It's

:19:34. > :19:36.important that you must remember that the team comes first and it's a

:19:37. > :19:40.team competition and it's not about what I'm going to be doing, it's

:19:41. > :19:44.about putting a point on the board for Great Britain and doing the best

:19:45. > :19:54.I can and giving it my best and I think that's all you can ask for. In

:19:55. > :19:59.terms of who is available he is our second highest ranked player. Not

:20:00. > :20:05.only that but his preferred surface is clay. I watched him winning

:20:06. > :20:09.Challenger Event in Buenos Aires against very talented players and I

:20:10. > :20:13.think it will give him a lot of confidence and he gave me confidence

:20:14. > :20:17.to put him out this weekend. It's a huge thing to step in and make your

:20:18. > :20:22.debut in a Davis Cup Final, but hopefully he relishes it. He

:20:23. > :20:28.deserves his chance in the team. He's got nothing to lose against

:20:29. > :20:32.Goffin. He can just go out there and enjoy the occasion, get used to it,

:20:33. > :20:36.play his game, go for his shots and enjoy it. You obviously won't know

:20:37. > :20:40.until you are out there but how do you think you will feel in this

:20:41. > :20:44.environment? It's tough to know because I haven't experienced it. I

:20:45. > :20:48.have had some experience being around the team and the Davis Cup

:20:49. > :20:54.atmosphere as a hitter through the weeks, I've done about five times

:20:55. > :20:57.now. That will help me in a way, but nothing substitutes for being out

:20:58. > :21:01.there. It's something I'm going to have to figure out as I go along.

:21:02. > :21:07.But it's a good problem, and exciting problem. It certainly is.

:21:08. > :21:11.He has played himself into form on the clay and he certainly deserves

:21:12. > :21:16.his place in the team. As we look at Kyle here, he is up against David

:21:17. > :21:20.Goffin, who is such a tough player to play. He's a real thinker on

:21:21. > :21:27.court and he has a great game. He's a really disciplined player, isn't

:21:28. > :21:31.he? He's extremely agile, very good on the ball. I act leaving he may be

:21:32. > :21:36.better on a faster court than play, where he is a very good mover. For

:21:37. > :21:40.Kyle it is about shutting his mind down and playing the match, how can

:21:41. > :21:45.he win as many points as possible? The good thing for Kyle is that his

:21:46. > :21:49.game is quite one-dimensional, he has to serve well and he has to

:21:50. > :21:58.dominate on his forehand. You won't -- you will see him on the backhand

:21:59. > :22:01.tramline trying to hit forehands all day! The big serve and the big

:22:02. > :22:05.forehand are his big shots. You have to have a couple of big weapons in

:22:06. > :22:09.your game to be a top player and he has got those weapons. I think he

:22:10. > :22:13.will go out and have fun out there and really go for the ball and he

:22:14. > :22:17.has got to take some chances. I think he's got a decent shot here

:22:18. > :22:22.but the beauty of it is, in some way sits better in your debut to play a

:22:23. > :22:26.match like this, to go up against someone who no one expects you to

:22:27. > :22:30.beat. If he had played someone around his ranking, the pressure

:22:31. > :22:35.would be more. When he has to go out and enjoy the occasion. Easier said

:22:36. > :22:41.than done, though. A big match for Kyle, but a big match for Leon

:22:42. > :22:44.Smith. He is mentoring Kyle and this is an opportunity, you want the

:22:45. > :22:49.youngster to thrive in this environment and not to be overawed

:22:50. > :22:53.by it. If you ask Leon about his captaincy that is one of the things

:22:54. > :22:59.he would be most proud of, that kind of thing. Dan Evans, James Ward and

:23:00. > :23:05.now Kyle coming into the team. What they've been able to do with some

:23:06. > :23:09.big wins. I think Leon would like to say he had an influence on that.

:23:10. > :23:12.big wins. I think Leon would like to Andy Murray factor, of course. We

:23:13. > :23:16.would not be there without Andy. But Andy kind of takes care of himself.

:23:17. > :23:23.There's not much Leon can add to that. Today if the occasion is

:23:24. > :23:25.slightly getting the better of Kyle, that is where Leon will have to come

:23:26. > :23:29.in and see what he can that is where Leon will have to come

:23:30. > :23:33.he doesn't want Andy to get too emotional during the matches when

:23:34. > :23:39.the other players are playing. You have to feel sorry for Dom Inglot,

:23:40. > :23:47.chosen in the team as a doubles specialist, but Leon has gone for

:23:48. > :23:55.three players. -- three singles players. I spoke to Dom yesterday

:23:56. > :23:58.and he is obviously very disappointed but he does understand

:23:59. > :24:02.it. If Andy Murray was playing on the doubles circuit, he would be top

:24:03. > :24:06.ten in the world. So you have to play Andy, no doubt about it. In

:24:07. > :24:09.some ways it gives Leon more options, if it gets down to the

:24:10. > :24:13.fifth and final match he has options, if it gets down to the

:24:14. > :24:23.James Ward or Kyle Edmund. That is the main difference. We have had to

:24:24. > :24:26.double 's players and two singles players, but Andy has turned round

:24:27. > :24:34.and said I will definitely be playing doubles. If I'm putting a

:24:35. > :24:38.debutante in, I don't want to be committed, and he has got James Ward

:24:39. > :24:45.in there as well. It gives him the option, if Kyle gets overawed by the

:24:46. > :24:48.occasion, it becomes a fifth and final rubber against Steve Darcis,

:24:49. > :24:53.he has got the option to put James Ward in, who is experienced in the

:24:54. > :24:56.occasion. Yes and let's not forget James Ward here because in my

:24:57. > :24:59.opinion our match against United States was our toughest in the whole

:25:00. > :25:04.draw. Because they had the Bryan brothers and we knew we were

:25:05. > :25:06.probably going to lose that doubles. He beat John Isner and we won the

:25:07. > :25:10.match. A lot of credit has to go to He beat John Isner and we won the

:25:11. > :25:13.him and I don't think we would be in this position without James Ward.

:25:14. > :25:17.him and I don't think we would be in it does come to the final match I

:25:18. > :25:19.think there is a good shot that James Ward will play. I can't

:25:20. > :25:24.imagine what poor Kyle is going through. The first few games, it's

:25:25. > :25:26.so important for him to get himself into the match somehow. That maybe

:25:27. > :25:30.the good thing about into the match somehow. That maybe

:25:31. > :25:34.clay, clay is his favourite surface somehow but there is going to be

:25:35. > :25:38.some extra nerves and some extra adrenaline, but you would hope there

:25:39. > :25:44.will be some longer rallies, feel your way into the match. The British

:25:45. > :25:50.fans right behind the British bench and they are really going to play

:25:51. > :25:55.their part as well. A last bit of advice as far as Kyle is concerned,

:25:56. > :25:58.get a lot of first serves in? Yes, no question about it, that's going

:25:59. > :26:04.to be big. He needs to no question about it, that's going

:26:05. > :26:09.because Goffin is a very good return player and he needs to feel he can

:26:10. > :26:11.get some big hits out there with the serve and the forehand, dominate the

:26:12. > :26:18.rallies and not get behind the ball. serve and the forehand, dominate the

:26:19. > :26:23.He has got to dry and use that big forehand to move Goffin around and

:26:24. > :26:27.make him feel this occasion and not get nervous. Exactly, work is way

:26:28. > :26:32.into the match. Try and apply a bit of scoreboard pressure on a good

:26:33. > :26:35.tempo one and make him think, actually, this is not going to be as

:26:36. > :26:44.easy as I think it is. You never know what can happen. We are all set

:26:45. > :26:47.to go. Kyle about to serve to David Goffin.

:26:48. > :26:55.COMMENTATOR: Thank you Sue and welcome to this historic occasion. I

:26:56. > :26:59.bet you thought you would never see the day again.

:27:00. > :27:05.Kyle Edmund 100 in the world, just 20 years of

:27:06. > :27:07.Kyle Edmund 100 in the world, just debut. What a moment for him,

:27:08. > :29:30.opening the tie here in Ghent. No Hawk-Eye on the clay, and

:29:31. > :29:34.important that the vast league experience umpire from France here

:29:35. > :29:39.gets the right mark, which he has identified, and that may be early

:29:40. > :29:44.nerves from Kyle Edmund. He thought it was long but it kept the line.

:29:45. > :29:50.Already we've seen the danger of Goffin in this opening game. Lovely

:29:51. > :30:59.mover around the tennis court. Good work at the net from Edmund.

:31:00. > :31:03.It's something he's been working on with the coaches in the build-up.

:31:04. > :31:07.They want him to be aggressive in this match, they want him to finish

:31:08. > :31:15.the points at the net where possible. He was told on Tuesday

:31:16. > :31:20.that he would be making his debut. Good work from Leon Smith just to

:31:21. > :31:25.settle the mind a little bit, didn't want to leave it too late. He's

:31:26. > :32:01.ready, he's excited about this prospect of a Davis Cup debut.

:32:02. > :32:10.Big serve, big forehand. Fundamental building blocks to Kyle Edmund's

:32:11. > :32:13.game. Even though he missed that forehand on the previous point, I

:32:14. > :32:43.don't think Leon Smith will be too upset about it. Won't mind seeing

:32:44. > :34:31.Loves to take the ball on the rise, him going for the corner.

:34:32. > :35:05.Someone has just walked right behind David Goffin!

:35:06. > :36:07.We are almost ten minutes for the opening here! -- opening game.

:36:08. > :36:14.This is the challenge of clay-court tennis. You've got to be in for the

:36:15. > :36:16.long haul. Best of five sets in Davis Cup, don't forget. Still in

:36:17. > :36:42.the opening game. Off the frame and into the roof.

:36:43. > :36:45.Relatively low roof here in this arena. In fact, it's just under

:36:46. > :36:50.regulation. arena. In fact, it's just under

:36:51. > :36:57.has to be 12 metres high at its lowest point. It is three

:36:58. > :37:00.centimetres under. Llodra, the Frenchman. He's been coaching the

:37:01. > :37:08.Belgian team in the build-up to this. Very vocal in some of the

:37:09. > :38:24.practice sessions as well. Grand Slam doubles champion.

:38:25. > :39:36.Wow! What an introduction to Davis Cup tennis for young Kyle Edmund. A

:39:37. > :39:45.12 minute opening game and well done him for getting through it.

:39:46. > :39:52.Look at the smiles of Captain Leon Smith. He really knows how to lacks

:39:53. > :39:59.these young lads. His Smith. He really knows how to lacks

:40:00. > :40:04.captain and he's won 11 so far. -- how to relax. He'll be saying, it's

:40:05. > :40:08.not so bad, is it? Go out and have some fun. What a journey this has

:40:09. > :40:17.been over the past five years since the trip to Lithuania and a defeat,

:40:18. > :40:21.a nation at the time with only three professional players. It was the

:40:22. > :40:27.only time ever you needed a ticket to watch tennis in Lithuania.

:40:28. > :40:32.Tunisia in Bolton, Turkey in Eastbourne. A tiny club in Odessa.

:40:33. > :40:34.We've been through it all and now the Davis Cup final, the World Cup

:40:35. > :42:17.of tennis. Again, Kyle Edmund executing the

:42:18. > :42:22.Palais they've been going through on the practice courts in the week

:42:23. > :42:27.they've been here in Belgium. -- the play. That will please Leon Smith.

:42:28. > :42:32.Hello, John, you've made it through the crowds! Stopping for De Grasse

:42:33. > :42:39.and photos all the way, I'm sure, but you've made it. -- autographs.

:42:40. > :42:43.Unbelievable first game. Never ending. Kyle Edmund, impressive the

:42:44. > :43:09.way he's come out here and started this match.

:43:10. > :43:14.A bit of a tight looking forehand from Goffin, inside the service box

:43:15. > :43:20.and allowing Kyle Edmund... This from Goffin, inside the service box

:43:21. > :43:23.so short and that's where Kyle Edmund will hopefully keep stepping

:43:24. > :43:45.into the court and keep charge of the rally.

:43:46. > :43:59.He's done it! What a start to his debut.

:44:00. > :44:07.This is Belgium's banker over the weekend, this match, right here.

:44:08. > :44:12.Their number 1 simply has to beat Britain's number 2 to give them are

:44:13. > :44:16.-- any chance at all. And Kyle Edmund, only the sixth player to

:44:17. > :44:22.make his Davis Cup debut in the final, is trying to make history

:44:23. > :44:27.today. Nobody before has won alive rubber on debut in the final.

:44:28. > :44:30.McEnroe won his first singles match in the 1978 final, but had played

:44:31. > :44:46.doubles previously. John, you don't want reminding about

:44:47. > :44:52.that first singles performance by Mr McEnroe, do you? No. You probably

:44:53. > :44:58.knew then he would go on to be a great player. Yeah. Just watching

:44:59. > :45:03.balls going flying past you. Watching a magician on court.

:45:04. > :45:09.McEnroe was certainly that. Went on to win the Davis Cup five times,

:45:10. > :45:16.McEnroe. First in 1978, the last in 1992.

:45:17. > :45:29.What a team the states had then. Agassi, Courier, Sampras and

:45:30. > :45:34.McEnroe. Anyway, how well has this young man

:45:35. > :46:20.settled. Oh! Sometimes you just have a feel for

:46:21. > :46:25.the temperament of a young player and I remember when he first turned

:46:26. > :46:28.up to a Davis Cup match in 2011, Leon Smith asked him to stand up and

:46:29. > :46:32.give a speech to the team in the locker room. He was really confident

:46:33. > :46:37.that day, even though he was only 16. I think they knew then that he

:46:38. > :46:42.would become a focal point of this team in the future. No doubt about

:46:43. > :46:48.it. What a start for him. To go out there and play like this, with that

:46:49. > :46:51.long ceremony at the start which is fabulous to watch but when you are a

:46:52. > :46:56.player and about to go out in the first match, you want to get it over

:46:57. > :47:00.with. Kyle Edmund must have been thinking please let me start this

:47:01. > :47:04.match. He goes out there and that first game was a crucial one, to

:47:05. > :47:08.hold that serve and then since then he is the 1 accelerating the shots.

:47:09. > :47:16.He is the 1 taking charge of the rallies. Goffin at the moment in

:47:17. > :47:21.defence mode. He seems a bit confused about how to make inroads

:47:22. > :47:25.against Kyle Edmund. It's extraordinary for a player of his

:47:26. > :47:29.experience. Obviously a long road to go yet, a best of five set match,

:47:30. > :47:35.but what a start for the British player.

:47:36. > :47:42.He was part of the Junior Davis Cup winning team in that tournament I

:47:43. > :47:50.was talking about in 2011, when he was just 16. Greg Rusedski captained

:47:51. > :48:21.the side. Five years an, can he go and do the double?

:48:22. > :48:35.That was a well-made point there from David Goffin. Really using all

:48:36. > :49:36.the angles. Well, he looks a bit worried,

:49:37. > :49:39.doesn't he? He looks very nervous rightly so, on current evidence.

:49:40. > :49:54.Absolutely. rightly so, on current evidence.

:49:55. > :49:59.But it just shows you, with Goffin, rightly so, on current evidence.

:50:00. > :50:03.he has done remarkably well, he is 16 in the world and you look at his

:50:04. > :50:06.he has done remarkably well, he is serve by today's standards, that

:50:07. > :50:11.last server was just over 100 mph roughly. He has not got a bit weapon

:50:12. > :50:16.on his serve, doesn't get a lot of free points. It just shows you the

:50:17. > :50:28.rest of his game, how well rounded he is.

:50:29. > :50:37.APPLAUSE That is what Kyle Edmund

:50:38. > :50:40.APPLAUSE well. Normally Goffin is a belike

:50:41. > :50:44.Bernard Tomic in that way, he always looks like he's got plenty of time

:50:45. > :50:48.on the ball, but Edmund is not letting him have time on the ball.

:50:49. > :50:52.He is getting that forehand in and putting him under pressure. He's

:50:53. > :50:59.almost bullying him at the moment, and Goffin was not expecting that.

:51:00. > :51:03.As we know, the really top players find a way. They figure things out.

:51:04. > :51:29.He's got five sets to do it. CHEERING

:51:30. > :51:32.That was an example of Kyle Edmund... British players

:51:33. > :51:36.particularly in the past have struggled with sliding and hitting

:51:37. > :51:39.the ball on the slide. He was able to slide and still hit a very

:51:40. > :51:45.ferocious forehand. That is something we have not had in the

:51:46. > :51:47.past. Andy Murray does it well. But it's not natural for British players

:51:48. > :52:13.because we don't grow up on this surface.

:52:14. > :52:23.Well! From an English point of view, we are liking this a lot. Kyle

:52:24. > :52:28.Edmund, on debut, is playing like a Davis Cup veteran. He is. It's the

:52:29. > :52:34.difference of pace on the ball, you can see it and feel it, the sound

:52:35. > :52:41.coming off the racket... Goffin at the moment is sort of labouring.

:52:42. > :52:43.Very nervous. Not this man in the picture, who looks like he's having

:52:44. > :53:07.fun out here. I way from home on debut, against

:53:08. > :53:12.the world number 16, Kyle Edmund leads by a double break! First set.

:53:13. > :53:18.What a start for Britain. -- away from home. This was a scoreline that

:53:19. > :53:23.I guarantee not one person in the stadium predicted. Not 4-0. We were

:53:24. > :53:28.hoping he would get off to a good start, but this is spectacular. The

:53:29. > :53:31.crowd is stunned, not the British crowd but the Belgian crowd at the

:53:32. > :53:41.moment not believing what they are seeing.

:53:42. > :53:49.APPLAUSE It's funny, I was having a chat with

:53:50. > :53:52.Captain Leon Smith during practice yesterday and he said what Kyle is

:53:53. > :53:57.going to do tomorrow is not worry about what happens in the first set

:53:58. > :54:01.too much! Basically suggesting if he gets off to a slow start, he could

:54:02. > :54:06.still believe he can win the match! But look at the scoreboard, this is

:54:07. > :54:12.the first set! Keep playing like this... He should not have said that

:54:13. > :54:16.to you because if you are Captain and this continues, at the end of

:54:17. > :54:26.the match you can say I knew he was going to do that!

:54:27. > :55:04.5-0! Easy. This is actually a strange change over now. Leon Smith

:55:05. > :55:10.has almost got to tell his charge to sort of keep calm, not get too

:55:11. > :55:15.excited. You have to say, this is a performance, the best performance of

:55:16. > :55:18.his life, at the moment. He's playing out of his mind. It's

:55:19. > :55:23.looking like this is the round in some small tournament. It's the

:55:24. > :55:28.Davis Cup Final and he hasn't woken up yet! Long may he continue to be

:55:29. > :55:32.asleep because if he keeps doing this, it's quite extraordinary. As

:55:33. > :55:37.coach will say one point at a time, it's the old cliche, but it's so

:55:38. > :55:41.easy to get ahead of yourself in this situation, you can think I'm

:55:42. > :55:46.about to win the first that 6-0 against the number 16 player in the

:55:47. > :55:49.world. The Belgian captain is more animated, he's saying we've got to

:55:50. > :55:52.get in here, we've got to get in this player's face. You're being

:55:53. > :56:01.intimidated, you're letting him bully you. What a proud day it is

:56:02. > :56:05.for Kyle Edmund, his family, his mum is here and his sister is watching

:56:06. > :56:09.back at home. He is from a town just to the east of Beverley in the East

:56:10. > :56:15.Riding of Yorkshire, started playing in the tennis Centre on the way into

:56:16. > :56:18.Hull, used to be up at 5am, practice before 6am at school. Taken out of

:56:19. > :57:30.Beverley Grammar at 14 to Henri Laconte to the left there, and

:57:31. > :57:31.Colin Fleming, who has played his part in this British team's rise

:57:32. > :57:52.through the divisions. Henri Laconte actually made his

:57:53. > :57:55.first Davis Cup singles appearance in the final, back in 1982. France

:57:56. > :58:32.losing to the USA that year. So much of that with Kyle Edmund,

:58:33. > :58:36.just standing in the tramlines. The part of the tramlines to be able to

:58:37. > :58:41.hit that forehand. You can go down the line,

:58:42. > :59:11.You can do anything with that shot, a lot of power.

:59:12. > :59:18.That's just brilliant. I love the way that on the second shot in the

:59:19. > :59:24.rally, the forehand, he was pushed out wide by Goffin, but instead of

:59:25. > :59:27.going for the big shot he hit a looping forehand nice and high, got

:59:28. > :59:32.himself back into the rally and then he can dominate. It was a smart shot

:59:33. > :59:36.selection by a very inexperienced player, and he's playing like he's

:59:37. > :59:43.been around here and it's just a part of his game. " Davis Cup

:59:44. > :59:46.Final? What's that!" It just emphasises how important the opening

:59:47. > :59:49.game was. He got through it in 12 minutes and 20 minutes later it is

:59:50. > :00:02.set point Great Britain. Out! Again, you don't mind him going

:00:03. > :00:09.for it, do you? Not at all. The next one will go in. That's exactly what

:00:10. > :00:13.Leon is saying, there. Sending a message. If your second serve is

:00:14. > :00:14.anything like that, I'm going to run round it and give it a good old

:00:15. > :01:21.belt. Go on then, we will give you a game!

:01:22. > :01:27.This is the Belgian captain. Number 65 in the world, played nine Davis

:01:28. > :01:35.Cup ties for his country. He has some really big wins in the Davis

:01:36. > :02:39.Cup, Pioline. The thing to remember here of

:02:40. > :02:44.course, reminding anybody watching back at home, is that this is the

:02:45. > :02:50.best of five sets and however good a start you make, when you are playing

:02:51. > :02:55.a player of the ability of Goffin, you cannot say it straightaway. The

:02:56. > :03:00.top players learn, back against a player, they start to soak up the

:03:01. > :03:04.information, they have got enough time to change things around. In the

:03:05. > :03:07.first of three sets, it can get away from you quickly, in best of five,

:03:08. > :04:56.that is a long time. Well one of the breaks retrieved by

:04:57. > :05:01.David Goffin, that security of the double break, even so just a cute

:05:02. > :05:07.extra things to think about now, John? A couple of things in those

:05:08. > :05:13.last couple of games from Goffin's point, he started to attack a lot

:05:14. > :05:18.more on the second serve, so Kyle Edmund has got to keep that service

:05:19. > :05:21.percentage up, his second serve is a bit vulnerable. The other thing, is

:05:22. > :05:26.that Goffin is coming forward which to me is not a bad sign for the

:05:27. > :05:30.Brits because he is not a very good volleyer. It means he's already

:05:31. > :05:36.thinking about how to change things in this match. That is a bit head. A

:05:37. > :05:43.couple of good games, that he has put on the board now. It puts the

:05:44. > :05:47.pressure a little bit back now on Carl Edmonds, if Goffin can hold his

:05:48. > :05:53.serve, it becomes more of a pressure game for Kyle Edmund to serve out

:05:54. > :05:57.the set. Just seeing the spectators coming into the arena a couple of

:05:58. > :06:04.hours before the match, we have got all sorts, we have got these

:06:05. > :06:10.ridiculously large cutout heads, we have got tubes, trombones, all sorts

:06:11. > :06:13.of casual things. It is a family affair as well, fancy dress all

:06:14. > :06:17.around and a great atmosphere around the arena. In Day one of this Davis

:06:18. > :07:37.Cup final. Goffin is just starting to take the

:07:38. > :07:41.area now away from him, hovering close to the baseline, cutting off

:07:42. > :07:46.his shots, accelerating the ball a little bit and trying to get on top

:07:47. > :07:53.of his opponent in the first few games, wishing him wide out all of

:07:54. > :08:13.the time and pushing him back. Now it is a big game here to put it

:08:14. > :08:18.mildly. James Ward who has really played his part in the run, unlucky

:08:19. > :08:24.not to be selected for this match, almost certainly coming in for the

:08:25. > :08:45.decider if it comes to experience. Will he get that far? Trying to get

:08:46. > :09:19.hold of that second serve now. He did well to pick that shot up,

:09:20. > :09:25.that is the best return on that Goffin has played off the match, it

:09:26. > :09:41.will be zero -30, a bit unlucky, top of the net but he will take it.

:09:42. > :09:58.Just a little test on the drive volley. Seeing there, just snatching

:09:59. > :10:03.on his forehand, pulling the racket down, looking to where to put the

:10:04. > :10:36.ball, putting the shot first. Well played, keeping it simple. If

:10:37. > :10:38.getting through that arduous first game was big for Kyle Edmund,

:10:39. > :11:22.getting through this one you sense is even bigger.

:11:23. > :11:31.Well played. What a way to change that all the way around, looking

:11:32. > :11:33.like he is defending. He has that ability, sliding to the forehand and

:11:34. > :11:38.then that Russia's ability, sliding to the forehand and

:11:39. > :11:42.back into a winning position. That gets him into that sort of position,

:11:43. > :12:03.and excellent point there. He is under pressure a lot in that rally.

:12:04. > :12:07.Coming through. Set point. Got it. Goffin has just taken a cursory

:12:08. > :12:13.glance at the market in the clay, he knows it is good, what a first set

:12:14. > :12:19.in Davis Cup, this young man has played. Kyle Edmund, first points on

:12:20. > :12:25.the board. Let us go courtside and join Jamie Baker. The atmosphere

:12:26. > :12:29.really is worthy of a Davis Cup final, they are ecstatic at how Kyle

:12:30. > :12:33.Edmund has started. I wonder if we can get closer to the court, I

:12:34. > :12:38.talked about the power of Kyle Edmund, there is a massive run back

:12:39. > :12:43.on the court, you can see the marks, maybe 12 or 15 feet back on

:12:44. > :12:47.this court and that is what Kyle Edmund's forehand can do and that is

:12:48. > :12:53.what he needs to do throughout this match to stop Goffin from playing

:12:54. > :12:57.his game, the one thing he doesn't like to be is overpowered. The

:12:58. > :13:01.second thing I'm looking for is belief, we are very close to the

:13:02. > :13:04.court and we can see the body language of both players. A

:13:05. > :13:09.clay-court matches a gladiatorial battle between two dies, Goffin

:13:10. > :13:15.looks like somebody who is being bullied, not quite sure what to do

:13:16. > :13:20.-- two guys. I dated anybody would dream at the start that we would do

:13:21. > :13:24.this well, it is the Belgian number one who has got problems at

:13:25. > :13:27.this well, it is the Belgian number moment. -- I don't think

:13:28. > :13:33.this well, it is the Belgian number would dream. What an atmosphere, in

:13:34. > :13:39.the arena, it is from the outside and ugly warehouse space, it is part

:13:40. > :13:45.retail space, part wasteland, it makes Braehead looks like heaven.

:13:46. > :13:48.They have makes Braehead looks like heaven.

:13:49. > :13:54.clay-court which is not an easy job to do, sometimes temporal records,

:13:55. > :13:59.take some time to bed in. But the British team are very happy, somehow

:14:00. > :14:06.they fitted 13,000 fans inside. They are ramping up the volume with every

:14:07. > :14:09.game it seems. The first Davis Cup final here in Belgium. They have

:14:10. > :14:18.never won this competition. Which final here in Belgium. They have

:14:19. > :14:24.started with 126 Nations, they might even have another one next year,

:14:25. > :14:27.Kosovo might be joining the fun. It is a truly global sporting

:14:28. > :14:36.competition and this is the very last match, the grand final. It is

:14:37. > :14:40.just special, it really is. Don was disappointed he was not picked for

:14:41. > :14:45.doubles, but, Jamie Murray has had a better one. Andy Murray will be a

:14:46. > :14:53.top ten player if he is playing doubles, it

:14:54. > :14:59.is tough to dislodge the brothers, we are gifted in the doubles. We

:15:00. > :15:03.have got Fleming, and others, we have got second and third string

:15:04. > :15:13.teams that could still win a lot of these doubles. We are very fortunate

:15:14. > :15:17.in that way. Great competition. The drawers have already been done, in

:15:18. > :15:20.the first round of next year 's competition, one of the curiosities

:15:21. > :15:26.is that you never get enough time to enjoy the win.

:15:27. > :15:35.Britain are going to be playing Japan. That's going to be in

:15:36. > :15:39.Birmingham, at the old NIA, the Barclaycard arena in the centre of

:15:40. > :15:46.the city. Japan have a top ten player in Kei Nishikori. Murray said

:15:47. > :15:55.he's going to play, but it's well a Tivoli soon after his wife is due.

:15:56. > :15:58.-- it's relatively soon after. That was interesting Andy saying he

:15:59. > :16:02.thinks he will play that match but may not play the match after if

:16:03. > :16:07.Britain win. Curious that he has sort of voice that way and not the

:16:08. > :16:12.other way. He has gone the opposite way. Great to be back in Birmingham,

:16:13. > :16:17.though. Some amazing ties around the home of the century, especially the

:16:18. > :16:21.USA match. You could see a mouthwatering possible fourth match

:16:22. > :16:24.there with Nishikori against Murray in Birmingham, two world-class

:16:25. > :16:27.players going up against each other at the national indoor arena with

:16:28. > :16:32.the Birmingham crowd that goes absolutely not. Looking forward to

:16:33. > :16:38.that already! -- goes absolutely nuts.

:16:39. > :16:58.Sometimes he reminds me of Jim Korea a bit, Kyle Edmund.

:16:59. > :17:07.-- Jim Courier is a bit. The same sort of ground strokes. Unorthodox

:17:08. > :17:12.like Jim Courier was. He gets the job done, that's for sure. That is

:17:13. > :17:16.just a wild backhand, there. You would have thought after the second

:17:17. > :17:20.set, even though Goffin lost, it was sort of coming back and you thought

:17:21. > :17:21.OK, now he's figured out a wait a bit and now he's played a couple of

:17:22. > :17:25.loose points. Strange performance from the Belgian

:17:26. > :19:04.number one. He's an interesting character, David

:19:05. > :19:09.Goffin, because he's a real talent but he is very shy off the court. He

:19:10. > :19:14.said ahead of this, I've practised with Andy Murray a couple of times

:19:15. > :19:16.but I've not really spoken to him much, "I'm a bit shy". He's almost

:19:17. > :19:21.not afraid to tell you he much, "I'm a bit shy". He's almost

:19:22. > :19:25.remember him playing Roger Federer at the French Open in 2012 and it

:19:26. > :19:26.was really his emergence onto the world scene. He lost the match but

:19:27. > :19:37.put in a great display. The parity -- the Parisiens really warmed to

:19:38. > :19:40.him and they actually asked him to do an interview at the end of the

:19:41. > :19:44.match as the losing player, which is very rare. But there was a lot of

:19:45. > :20:00.love for him that day. APPLAUSE

:20:01. > :20:05.He had a really tricky 2013, plummeted down there and kings. He

:20:06. > :20:10.had that nasty left wrist injury as well, which required surgery at the

:20:11. > :20:14.end of the year. Last season, 2014, was a season of two halves for him.

:20:15. > :20:17.He hardly won a thing in the first half of the year and then barely

:20:18. > :20:25.lost after Wimbledon. A couple of amazing runs.

:20:26. > :20:32.This year very solid as well. 16 in the world rankings. The high as he

:20:33. > :20:40.has ever finished a season. Some superb forehands there in that

:20:41. > :23:43.rally. Occupying that dominated from this area. He goes

:23:44. > :23:50.out wide, crosscourt, then going coming is not anticipating the

:23:51. > :24:20.shot at the moment, Well, he looks cool and he looks

:24:21. > :24:42.decidedly rattled. Facing two more break points.

:24:43. > :24:53.Out! Its wide. Setting up the point with that return of serve, Kyle

:24:54. > :25:01.Edmund, and then stepping in and finishing the job.

:25:02. > :25:06.Edmund, and then stepping in and ahead. Well, he's come here from a

:25:07. > :25:18.tour of South America, clay-court tournaments out there, won the

:25:19. > :25:20.Challenger. Both of whom have been top 40 in their careers and know

:25:21. > :25:24.their way around clay courts, the people he beat in that. It's

:25:25. > :25:30.important for these players to find out what life is like at that level,

:25:31. > :25:34.grinding it out. They are not easy tournaments to win, most of the

:25:35. > :25:39.Challenger is. What was most impressive about Kyle Edmund and

:25:40. > :25:45.James Ward, they both knew that this spot was available, and had a bit of

:25:46. > :25:53.a fight with each other and Dan Evans, although it was on clay, they

:25:54. > :25:57.both went out and performed well and Kyle Edmund had a very good run on

:25:58. > :26:01.clay in a tough tournament and came through and that is why he got

:26:02. > :26:04.picked to play in this tournament. He's showing the reasons why now

:26:05. > :26:09.coming he really is playing above is level. Going up against the number

:26:10. > :26:16.16 player in the world and not in any way intimidated. So far it's a

:26:17. > :26:59.marketable performance. -- a remarkable performance.

:27:00. > :27:07.Just punishing! How far wide was he on that return of serve? He got that

:27:08. > :27:13.ball back, and hit that fantastic angle. Then it comes act that side

:27:14. > :27:16.and goes the opposite way. Once again just piling this pressure on.

:27:17. > :27:28.He's got the weapons in this match so far.

:27:29. > :27:35.Look at the pace on that ball! What's really interesting to me,

:27:36. > :27:39.John, he was sent into this match being told to be aggressive and to

:27:40. > :27:43.possibly finish points at the net, now he's almost having to adjust

:27:44. > :27:47.that tactic because he knows he is growing by the point out here. He

:27:48. > :27:51.knows he has got the power to outplay Goffin from the baseline!

:27:52. > :28:02.Exactly, he's having to readjust his game plan here.

:28:03. > :28:10.Very, very young Kyle Edmund so far, as we move

:28:11. > :28:12.past the hour mark on his Davis Cup debut, we have to keep reminding

:28:13. > :28:53.you! You can't tell much, looking at

:28:54. > :28:58.David Goffin. Facially he has the same expression whether he wins or

:28:59. > :29:00.loses, but you can tell by his game that he's worried. The errors he is

:29:01. > :29:04.making. I mean, that's just careless. Great

:29:05. > :29:53.return of serve, mind you. I think one of the big mistakes

:29:54. > :29:57.Goffin is making, he is going to much to the backhand and not getting

:29:58. > :30:01.enough power on it, which enables Kyle Edmund to get around into that

:30:02. > :30:06.tram line area and attack the forehands. If I were Goffin, I would

:30:07. > :30:09.be on the line a lot more and go after the Edmund forehand, try and

:30:10. > :30:41.go behind a bit. He's too predictable at the minute.

:30:42. > :30:45.The Great support from Britain's point of view here, both from the

:30:46. > :31:13.bench and from the stands. Well, well, well. 4-1. Double break

:31:14. > :31:18.of serve. Forcing the double faults. And with Andy Murray still to come,

:31:19. > :31:24.this is the best possible start from a British point of view. It is quite

:31:25. > :31:28.remarkable and it is so funny, you tend to take Andy Murray for

:31:29. > :31:32.granted, this is a Davis Cup final and you think that he will not be

:31:33. > :31:36.fazed by it whatsoever, you would sort of think the same thing with

:31:37. > :31:41.David Goffin, not as experienced or in the same league as Andy Murray

:31:42. > :31:44.but still in the top 20. You would think in this opening bank match for

:31:45. > :31:49.them, you would go out and almost got around and looked it top 20

:31:50. > :31:54.player and command this match and it just shows you, what a Davis Cup

:31:55. > :31:59.final can do to anybody. Not Andy Murray because he's beyond that

:32:00. > :32:09.level, but Goffin at the moment has frozen. He is not the sort of

:32:10. > :32:14.character to strut around anyway? He is a top 16 player, he has had wins

:32:15. > :32:17.against remainders players, at the moment he's going out and looking

:32:18. > :32:25.like there is no way that he can win. Look at that body language. He

:32:26. > :32:29.should be bluffing right now even if he is not feeling good, he should be

:32:30. > :32:57.looking like he is a top 20 player, he does not look that way right now.

:32:58. > :33:03.It is amazing, we said before the match that Goffin is the sort of

:33:04. > :33:07.player that looks like he has got time, he is always in command of the

:33:08. > :33:12.ball. It is the opposite here, Kyle Edmund looks like he is with the

:33:13. > :33:32.time, and when he hits it, Goffin is on the defensive all of the time.

:33:33. > :33:38.Where has that been? He has to use that shot more often. Opening up the

:33:39. > :33:41.court, sometimes you have got to go to the strength. To create the

:33:42. > :35:13.opening. 5-1, Edmund's second set, who would

:35:14. > :35:19.have thought it? Back to the first set, he had a chance to close it

:35:20. > :35:22.out. It is staggering, if the scoreline was being flashed all

:35:23. > :35:27.around the world, people would be looking at it thinking that the

:35:28. > :35:55.scoreboard is wrong. No one would have predicted this scoreline.

:35:56. > :36:01.Terrific support again for Goffin, but

:36:02. > :36:27.help but think that it is maybe hindering him.

:36:28. > :36:41.Steve Darcis to the right of the picture, not named in the singles.

:36:42. > :36:42.Surely, coming into play a decisive fifth rubber, great track record in

:36:43. > :37:07.those matches. You are watching a young British

:37:08. > :37:16.player here, grow before our eyes. With every point. He is gaining

:37:17. > :37:20.inexperience, gaining in confidence. Quite remarkably, Kyle Edmund, two

:37:21. > :37:51.points away from taking it sets lead in opening rubber. -- a 2 sets lead.

:37:52. > :37:58.That has gone wide. If we are honest about it, Goffin looks like he wants

:37:59. > :38:18.this court to swallow him up, Edmund is standing tall. Set point.

:38:19. > :38:29.this court to swallow him up, Edmund out of here says Goffin. Wonderful,

:38:30. > :38:41.wonderful Davis Cup debut from this young man, just 20. 100 in the

:38:42. > :38:49.world, way down the list. Andy Murray still to come, Murray and

:38:50. > :38:51.Murray in the doubles. If Edmund can seal the deal here, you could wonder

:38:52. > :38:59.whether Britain could finish it tomorrow.

:39:00. > :39:08.This performance from Kyle Edmund is suggesting big things for written.

:39:09. > :39:13.STUDIO: The Great Britain in the Davis Cup final, how is it? It is

:39:14. > :39:19.unbelievable, great atmosphere and great team effort to get us here.

:39:20. > :39:23.And Kyle Edmund, what a start, I was wondering how he could get into this

:39:24. > :39:32.match, did anybody think that he would do this well? Goffin doesn't

:39:33. > :39:35.know what to do with a forehand, he seems caught up in the occasion and

:39:36. > :39:42.let us hope that it lasts another set. Can he do something really

:39:43. > :39:46.drastic here? You would think so with his ranking and experience but

:39:47. > :39:52.at the moment it does not look like the case. Let us hope that it

:39:53. > :39:59.doesn't work out that way. Finally yourself, one double play.

:40:00. > :40:04.Disappointed for you not to play, how do you deal with it. You have

:40:05. > :40:08.two be ready, for a fifth match on Sunday? Of course it is

:40:09. > :40:16.disappointing, the way that I played. Playing great so far today,

:40:17. > :40:24.if he does turn things around come Sunday I will be ready to play.

:40:25. > :40:29.Thank you very much. James Ward who came of age in this competition,

:40:30. > :40:36.when he beat Dmitry terse enough, to keep the tie live in Coventry. Sam

:40:37. > :40:43.Querrey in San Diego, came from 2-1 down and he did it again in Glasgow

:40:44. > :40:47.this year. What a role he has played but he may not play this weekend.

:40:48. > :40:52.That was the match against the United States, out of the only

:40:53. > :40:57.matches, we were not really the favourites in that tie. Because of

:40:58. > :41:03.the Brian brothers in the doubles. I know that we have talked about Andy

:41:04. > :41:07.Murray who has been unbelievable. A lot of credit because without we may

:41:08. > :41:14.not have been here. It would have been a tough one to call. The USA in

:41:15. > :41:18.the first round, France in the Court of finals in Queen's, Australia in

:41:19. > :41:27.the semifinals, Britain with recover grand slam tennis nations to get

:41:28. > :41:30.this far. Belgium, they have beaten Switzerland, Canada and Argentina

:41:31. > :41:35.but when you look at the individuals they have played with in those

:41:36. > :41:45.matches, nobody of world-class ability. Switzerland did not have

:41:46. > :41:48.Federer or Wawrinka. It is not really disrespecting Belgium to say

:41:49. > :41:55.that this is the easiest match of the tie so far. That was having a

:41:56. > :42:02.look at Kim Kleist is, always good to see her, great champion. They

:42:03. > :42:07.were dominating of course with Belgium for many years. Men's

:42:08. > :42:25.tennis, this has been the highlight, making the final. And going to do

:42:26. > :42:59.well to win it from here. She looks as worried as Goffin. If that is

:43:00. > :43:04.possible. Kim Kleist as did an interview before this, she was

:43:05. > :43:11.talking about the big match, between Goffin and Murray, saying that

:43:12. > :43:15.perhaps, there were times, where mentally he gets upset, with the

:43:16. > :43:35.crowd that might happen. The way this is going, that match might not

:43:36. > :43:41.even take place. When you look at that point, how many points, where

:43:42. > :43:50.Edmund has been on the run, very few. This is just unusual. He still

:43:51. > :43:55.could have won the point from there. The cautionary note, how many people

:43:56. > :43:58.would have predicted a Goffin straight sets victory going into

:43:59. > :44:02.this match, well that is effectively what he needs to do from here.

:44:03. > :44:51.Winning three sets, he is capable of doing it here. Exactly.

:44:52. > :45:02.He is just missing shots, it just shows you this can happen at any

:45:03. > :45:06.time to almost any player. But boy, he is really searching for something

:45:07. > :45:10.and he cannot find any sort of rhythm at the moment. That is

:45:11. > :45:24.lovely. Well, he has messed with Goffin's

:45:25. > :45:33.mind so far, and there he messed with his legs. Just good not just in

:45:34. > :45:36.time. Lovely change in direction. Just that little nuance of

:45:37. > :45:40.clay-court play there. That little adjustment you need to get your feet

:45:41. > :45:45.in the right position. It's not so much sliding into the corners, it's

:45:46. > :45:55.getting out of the corners. He has that ability, Edmund, to thrive and

:45:56. > :45:56.hit hard on that move. Good thing to have if you're going to be a

:45:57. > :46:16.clay-court player. Totally off balance there, did not

:46:17. > :46:22.get his feet planted. It was a good return but nothing special. He just

:46:23. > :46:27.can't get going. At the changeover, the Belgian captain, normally for

:46:28. > :46:31.someone in the top 20 you don't say that much to them, but he's really

:46:32. > :46:33.in his face at the moment, trying to get some spark of something to get

:46:34. > :47:33.him going here a bit. Leon Smith is off his feet

:47:34. > :47:34.applauding Edmund here. He has missed the sidelined by an inch and

:47:35. > :47:36.the baseline by an inch but Smith will not be too concerned about

:47:37. > :47:41.that. And also, John, liking the way that

:47:42. > :47:48.Edmund reacts to those near And also, John, liking the way that

:47:49. > :47:51.as well. He's got a very cool temperament and he's not going to

:47:52. > :48:05.let the frustration get him down here.

:48:06. > :50:11.CHEERING He didn't want to miss that one, did

:50:12. > :50:17.He missed that shot by miles, that's APPLAUSE

:50:18. > :50:25.He missed that shot by miles, that's what's so

:50:26. > :51:08.He missed that shot by miles, that's moment of the match so

:51:09. > :51:31.There's the Murray plan! Grandma and grandad.

:51:32. > :52:02.Just came out of that for almost the first time, lifted up on the

:52:03. > :52:04.backhand. Not sure if it was a bad bounce backs, but the body came up.

:52:05. > :52:27.The ball just floated long. That's gone wide. Well, it's taken

:52:28. > :52:34.almost an hour and a half but finally Goffin has a slight

:52:35. > :52:44.foothold, a slight opportunity to get back in now. A break ahead in

:52:45. > :52:48.the third set. Even that games are, really it wasn't really a case of

:52:49. > :52:51.Goffin playing a lot better in that one, that was the first game where

:52:52. > :52:56.Kyle Edmund has just made a few errors. You have to expect that,

:52:57. > :53:01.he's been unbelievable for two sets, but that was the first time

:53:02. > :53:05.where he gave a view cheap errors away and Goffin finally converted,

:53:06. > :53:15.but still not a convincing break of serve. -- a view cheap errors. Do

:53:16. > :53:20.you think they sell the seats behind that as restricted view!

:53:21. > :53:25.LAUGHTER There are some characters around

:53:26. > :53:28.this arena today, I have to say. Great support for Belgium and why

:53:29. > :53:33.would they not enjoy their first appearance back here in the Davis

:53:34. > :53:38.Cup Final for so, so long. They actually lost to Britain at

:53:39. > :53:46.Wimbledon in their one lonely appearance. Britain's first final

:53:47. > :53:57.since 78 when John here played alongside his brother and Buster

:53:58. > :54:01.Mott in palm springs, losing to a McEnroe-inspired USA. But it isn't

:54:02. > :54:06.since the days of Fred Perry in the 1930s that they have been able to

:54:07. > :54:09.lift the trophy. That is the prize this weekend. We've got it covered

:54:10. > :54:14.across the BBC. If you are out, take your radio with you, Five Live

:54:15. > :56:08.Sports Extra as this one tomorrow. Well, you've got to give Goffin a

:56:09. > :56:11.good deal of credit here for the way he has recovered after the

:56:12. > :56:15.disappointment of losing that second set. At that point it looked like he

:56:16. > :56:27.would rather be anywhere else but here. The captain has really had to

:56:28. > :56:51.earn his corn to gee up Goffin more than anything. That shot was missing

:56:52. > :57:30.for the first couple of sets, the backhand down the line.

:57:31. > :57:47.Well, where did that call come from? It didn't come the line judge.

:57:48. > :57:51.BOOING It's come from the crowd, that

:57:52. > :57:55.call. They got the line judge just to the left of the shop on the

:57:56. > :58:07.baseline put his palms down to the court.

:58:08. > :58:18.That call of out definitely did not come from the line judge.

:58:19. > :59:33.Well, this is a big test now for Kyle Edmund. This is the stage of

:59:34. > :59:37.the match that he must have anticipated would come at some

:59:38. > :59:38.point. Goffin is too good to be blown off the Court Three sets to

:59:39. > :59:42.love. That was a very brave second serve

:59:43. > :00:45.from Kyle Edmund. So, the Belgian comeback is very

:00:46. > :01:10.much on, with Goffin now So, the Belgian comeback is very

:01:11. > :01:11.a double break in the third set. JOHN LLOYD: Anything can happen in

:01:12. > :01:17.the best-of-five sets. JOHN LLOYD: Anything can happen in

:01:18. > :01:20.and 20 minutes, Kyle Edmund was just absolutely brilliant. It has been a

:01:21. > :01:25.bit of a combination. He has definitely gone off the boil, the

:01:26. > :01:30.young Brit. And Goffin has just steadied the ship a little bit and

:01:31. > :01:34.become a bit more consistent. Been aggressive at the right time and not

:01:35. > :01:37.made as many errors. It can happen. Over five sets it is very

:01:38. > :01:43.made as many errors. It can happen. you go through a match unblemished

:01:44. > :01:51.when you do not have some errors. He has just got to make sure that he

:01:52. > :01:55.stops this as soon as possible. Someone actually missing from the

:01:56. > :02:01.Belgian team this weekend to whom we must send our very best wishes.

:02:02. > :02:05.Julian, who worked for several years as a coach at the LTA, was admitted

:02:06. > :02:09.to hospital a couple of weeks ago suffering from a brain tumour. The

:02:10. > :02:16.news has shocked everyone here in Belgium. A very popular member of

:02:17. > :02:22.the coaching team. Steve Darcis, a close friend. I am told he will be

:02:23. > :02:25.following what he can. He is in hospital in Lieges and we all wish

:02:26. > :02:28.him the very best. He contributed a lot to British tennis in his few

:02:29. > :04:13.years with us. Get well soon. Well, he needed that. So far off the

:04:14. > :04:19.court here. Just another glimpse of the power that he has. He did it

:04:20. > :04:24.early on with his backhand. He was a long way behind the baseline to hit

:04:25. > :04:28.a clean winner like that, with such power. He has got weapons in his

:04:29. > :04:31.game, Kyle Edmund. You have to have that in today's tennis and he has

:04:32. > :05:28.certainly got those. Very well done to Kyle Edmund there.

:05:29. > :05:36.The ebbs and flows of a tennis match are so fascinating to observe.

:05:37. > :05:40.Absolutely no way has Kyle Edmund given up on this set. No, you might

:05:41. > :05:43.have expected there would be some doubts but he has come back to break

:05:44. > :08:57.his higher ranked opponent. APPLAUSE AND CHEERING

:08:58. > :09:06.JONATHAN OVEREND: Another game against Romeo. It is a fascinating

:09:07. > :09:06.JONATHAN OVEREND: Another game difficult to predict what is going

:09:07. > :09:11.to happen. much with in the match. But anyway

:09:12. > :09:25.he has got that break much with in the match. But anyway

:09:26. > :09:33.go down to Jamie Baker at courtside. That was

:09:34. > :09:41.go down to Jamie Baker at courtside. so far? Yet he started very

:09:42. > :09:51.go down to Jamie Baker at courtside. at the beginning, the

:09:52. > :09:51.go down to Jamie Baker at courtside. slowed down a bit of course so the

:09:52. > :10:00.go down to Jamie Baker at courtside. match is slowing down a little bit.

:10:01. > :10:00.go down to Jamie Baker at courtside. like this. What does it mean for the

:10:01. > :10:06.go down to Jamie Baker at courtside. Belgian players to play here at

:10:07. > :10:12.go down to Jamie Baker at courtside. country, nobody was expecting a

:10:13. > :10:12.final going to play it and hopefully we

:10:13. > :10:34.are going to Winnipeg. Is this going to play it and hopefully we

:10:35. > :11:03.won the decisive fifth rubber to win a Davis Cup tie for his country.

:11:04. > :11:10.He has that ability on that forehand, Kyle Edmund, when he is

:11:11. > :11:17.pushed out wide. He gets that flicked forehand and it comes off

:11:18. > :11:22.the racket so fast. It puts Goffin back on the defensive. It is a big

:11:23. > :12:15.weapon, that forehand. His backhand has been pretty good today as well!

:12:16. > :12:31.It was interesting to hear Steve saying that in practice how much

:12:32. > :12:36.harder Goffin has been hitting the ball. It just shows you what tension

:12:37. > :12:39.can do. He has just been steering the ball for the first couple of

:12:40. > :12:41.sets. Mind you, a lot of that is down to his opponent, who been

:12:42. > :12:59.The absolutely brilliant.

:13:00. > :13:04.The court on one side, exploiting the

:13:05. > :13:05.opening on the other. And it brings up two much-needed set points per

:13:06. > :14:08.David Goffin of Belgium. Belgium back in it! Well, it was

:14:09. > :14:12.never going to be easy. This, just to reiterate, the one match across

:14:13. > :14:16.the weekend that Belgium really, really would have put their houses

:14:17. > :14:22.on. Their number one against our number two. Kyle Edmund on debut.

:14:23. > :14:28.No-one has ever won live rubber on debut in the final. Edmund remains

:14:29. > :14:41.one set away from it. But now, critically, Goffin is two sets away

:14:42. > :14:45.from it. He has begun the comeback. So, what are they fighting for here?

:14:46. > :14:50.from it. He has begun the comeback. So, this is what all the fuss is

:14:51. > :14:54.about, the famous Davis Cup trophy. I hope the winners are not planning

:14:55. > :15:00.to get it in their luggage to take home. Fascinating to hear Steve say

:15:01. > :15:03.what he felt about Davis Cup. He used the word stress. It is 1978

:15:04. > :15:08.since the last time Great used the word stress. It is 1978

:15:09. > :15:13.played a match with this trophy on the line. Can sense now the match

:15:14. > :15:16.starting to turn. The Belgian crowd is becoming a bit more positive. It

:15:17. > :15:22.will be fascinating to see how Goffin and Kyle Edmund react to

:15:23. > :15:28.this. But this is what is on the line. It is more than a metre tall,

:15:29. > :15:32.more than a metre wide, it weighs 105 kilos. One of the most famous

:15:33. > :15:37.trophies in sport and certainly one of the biggest! It has been

:15:38. > :15:44.refurbished a couple of times in its lifetime at vast expense. They have

:15:45. > :15:47.added a layer or two as well. When Britain won it in the 1930s they

:15:48. > :15:52.only got that top bit there. And then they started adding the plinth

:15:53. > :15:54.only got that top bit there. And is with the names of all the winning

:15:55. > :16:02.nations. Switzerland are the defending nations. Serbia, with

:16:03. > :16:08.Novak Djokovic, in 2010. That was amazing for him. And it led into his

:16:09. > :16:13.amazing year with three slams and barely a defeat. You wonder whether

:16:14. > :16:17.if Murray can win it this weekend...?

:16:18. > :16:39.Well, he gives nothing away. He doesn't! Come on, tell us something!

:16:40. > :16:43.How are you feeling? His captain is in his face, demonstrate this and

:16:44. > :16:51.that... He just gives him that blank stare. It's a bit like Bjorn Borg

:16:52. > :16:55.come EU could never tell whether he was winning or losing. You could

:16:56. > :17:00.never tell the difference. Goffin is like that coming he just doesn't

:17:01. > :17:06.give anything away. But what gives away the nerves was the first couple

:17:07. > :17:10.of sets, as his team-mate said the team-mate was not coming off his

:17:11. > :17:14.racket, he was not going for it, there was not enough pace. You can

:17:15. > :17:20.understand if his nation is here and they know that this the banker

:17:21. > :17:25.match. If he loses this match, the Belgian number one, the match is

:17:26. > :17:29.over. That pressure can take at any time, and Goffin has taken a while

:17:30. > :17:35.to settle. But you can't take away from the make -- the amazing start

:17:36. > :17:39.that Kyle Edmund has had, on his Davis Cup debut. To go out there and

:17:40. > :17:43.impose himself the way he has against the world number 16 is quite

:17:44. > :17:47.incredible. Whatever happens in this match, it just does you what an

:17:48. > :17:51.amazing future prospect we have in Kyle Edmund. We can't really

:17:52. > :17:55.reiterate how important this is for Belgium to win this match right

:17:56. > :17:57.now, with Andy Murray still to come strong favourite for both his

:17:58. > :18:00.singles matches and strong favourite for the doubles as well in

:18:01. > :18:06.partnership with Jamie Murray, how well they have played in the last

:18:07. > :18:11.two rounds, in fact only once had a nation comeback from two robbers to

:18:12. > :18:15.one down to win a Davis Cup Final and you have to go back to 1939 for

:18:16. > :18:20.that. Realistically the best chance for Belgium was to win this 3-2.

:18:21. > :18:23.Taking it to the final day and somehow squeezing an upset win

:18:24. > :18:30.somewhere along the line. A huge challenge for them. A few

:18:31. > :18:33.adjustments to the net here, and that's just delaying things a bit

:18:34. > :18:38.ahead of the fourth set. Carlos Rameau is to the left of the net and

:18:39. > :18:42.he is the other umpire in this tie committee is supervising. At the

:18:43. > :18:48.beginning of this set, they had to keep coming out and readjusting the

:18:49. > :18:52.net. I was thinking the organisation has been so good but the 1 thing

:18:53. > :18:57.that is slightly down is the way the net is behaving. And now it's not

:18:58. > :18:58.doing its job, unfortunately. Here we go, here comes Carlos with the

:18:59. > :19:13.tape measure. Right, is the Davis Cup Final, day

:19:14. > :19:18.one, live from Ghent in Belgium, a beautiful city by the way, the third

:19:19. > :19:23.biggest city in Belgium behind Brussels and Bruges, population of

:19:24. > :19:26.around a quarter of a million. Central to the medieval cloth

:19:27. > :19:32.trade, and a real medieval feel to the city wherever you go. Some

:19:33. > :19:33.fascinating architecture. Bradley Wiggins was born here. Fact of the

:19:34. > :21:48.day. Well, that is a miss. At 15-30,

:21:49. > :21:52.opening game of the fourth set. A let off for Edmund, and Leon Smith

:21:53. > :22:15.here wants his man to exploit it. Jamie Murray will be involved

:22:16. > :22:27.tomorrow in the doubles. Watch that with us tomorrow afternoon.

:22:28. > :22:34.Well played! Really well played, under a lot of pressure. Doing

:22:35. > :22:40.exactly what his captain wanted to do their, make your thin pay for the

:22:41. > :22:47.easy miss at the net. He could easily have lost the game at that

:22:48. > :22:50.15-30 point but he hung in there really well. He needed that game to

:22:51. > :22:55.re-establish himself, get back in the lead in the fourth set after

:22:56. > :22:59.losing the third set, where his game just dropped a level. It can happen

:23:00. > :23:03.in best of five sets, you've just got to make sure you can get out of

:23:04. > :23:08.it as quickly as possible, and he seems to have done so. Once again

:23:09. > :23:11.the thing is with playing Goffin, you're not talking about a big

:23:12. > :23:15.server, so he will always think he has got the chance to break serve.

:23:16. > :23:21.Not many aces, not many free points come from Goffin's serve. Which is

:23:22. > :23:27.unusual for a top 30 player. Most top players these days, you get one

:23:28. > :23:32.or two cheap points every game with a big serve. He will probably get

:23:33. > :23:41.four aces in a row now I have said that!

:23:42. > :24:27.It's just extraordinary how far he missed by on that shot, that's the

:24:28. > :24:31.worrying thing for the Belgian team. It was the right shot, perhaps, to

:24:32. > :24:48.go down the line. But he missed it by three or four feet.

:24:49. > :26:17.He didn't adjust his footwork, there. He got caught.

:26:18. > :26:25.Well, the clock is just ticking on to two hours for the match here.

:26:26. > :26:36.Kyle Edmund is not used to playing best-of-5 sets. Out.

:26:37. > :26:42.As calm as he is, he will have used up quite a bit of nervous energy in

:26:43. > :26:47.the build-up and the first three sets here, John. That's a very good

:26:48. > :26:52.point. The time is only two hours, that's not a lot, even for a best of

:26:53. > :26:59.three sets match. But it's the tension involved, the build-up, the

:27:00. > :27:01.ceremony. That can make the legs go. Looks a

:27:02. > :27:08.ceremony. That can make the legs go. Not getting his feet in the right

:27:09. > :27:09.position. Kim Clijsters was the queen of the comeback, wasn't she?

:27:10. > :27:33.Justine Henin as well. That forehand, he was reaching for

:27:34. > :27:37.it. He did not take the two quick steps. I think he's feeling it a

:27:38. > :28:04.little bit in the legs at the moment.

:28:05. > :28:17.Oh! A poor game from Edmund's points of view and he is marching back

:28:18. > :28:28.quickly to his chair. Belgium up a break in the fourth set.

:28:29. > :28:36.Is that the first sign of a little weariness, John, when the footwork

:28:37. > :28:40.starts to go? You can tell a bit with the serve, you don't start

:28:41. > :28:44.reaching up as much on the ball toss, you are just a bit fatigued.

:28:45. > :28:48.The legs, two or three times in that game when he just wasn't in the

:28:49. > :28:53.right position. He could have taken to quick steps but he just lunged at

:28:54. > :28:57.the ball. But you can get out of that. You can sort of re-game that.

:28:58. > :29:04.Sometimes you can get a bit fatigued with the tension. He's just got to

:29:05. > :29:09.rebuild. Leon is right in his face here, just to get him going a bit. I

:29:10. > :29:12.need to panic, he is still up two sets to one. Just to recharge the

:29:13. > :29:23.energy and get focused a bit. He has got his whole career ahead of

:29:24. > :29:28.him. His first match for Britain. He has been around the team for quite a

:29:29. > :29:35.few ties now, soaking up the experience. Murray did that right at

:29:36. > :29:44.the start of his career. He went to Luxembourg with the team in 2004.

:29:45. > :29:50.Nothing beats playing, though. Nothing is the same as playing,

:29:51. > :29:52.finding yourself in this sort of atmosphere. Goffin, 2-1 with the

:29:53. > :31:46.break, fourth set. The locals trying to sway the

:31:47. > :31:49.decision, which is never going to happen. He will be a mighty relieved

:31:50. > :32:04.young man to see that drop over the baseline. Good, strong return.

:32:05. > :32:33.APPLAUSE young man to see that drop over the

:32:34. > :32:48.baseline. Good, strong Goffin at the end of that game.

:32:49. > :32:56.Slowly but surely demonstrating examples in that game. There is

:32:57. > :33:11.Michael Llodra, helping out examples in that game. There is

:33:12. > :33:46.player as well. French Davis He was one of the last remaining

:33:47. > :33:49.exponents of the serve-volley, John. I remember an amazingly

:33:50. > :33:53.entertaining match in Australia when he was doing it all the time. Could

:33:54. > :33:56.not care less! Into the net straightaway! And it made for

:33:57. > :33:57.fantastic
