:00:37. > :00:42.Welcome to beautiful Budapest for the diving World Championships. We
:00:43. > :00:46.have 12 British divers in action, hoping to be crowned best in the
:00:47. > :00:53.world. These guys work hard, they also play hard, as you can see, that
:00:54. > :00:58.is the British diving team away from the boards relaxing. It is part and
:00:59. > :01:01.parcel of easing their nerves and have some fun. Let's hope they put
:01:02. > :01:13.on a show. Here is what is coming up. Olympic champions Jack Law and
:01:14. > :01:22.his partner are at the one model that has eluded them. Tom Daley and
:01:23. > :01:29.Dan Goodfellow attempt to reach new heights together on the ten-metre
:01:30. > :01:33.platform. Last year, Jack Laugher and Chris
:01:34. > :01:38.Mears took the biggest prize and crowned Olympic champions in Rio.
:01:39. > :01:43.The run in to Budapest has been different, a few injuries and a
:01:44. > :01:48.change coast, but they were confident. Been a great season so
:01:49. > :01:53.far, we have three silver medals, so we are happy with how it has gone.
:01:54. > :02:00.Diving well, working well with a team and happy with our new coach as
:02:01. > :02:10.well. This is the moment for Jack and Chris. Here they go. Yes! That
:02:11. > :02:15.is an Olympic medal for sure. How special are those memories and what
:02:16. > :02:19.you went through at The Games? The memories are surreal. We have
:02:20. > :02:24.settled into our own lives again, come back down to earth. Especially
:02:25. > :02:28.with diving day in and day out, competing. The memories are fresh
:02:29. > :02:33.and they will be for ever. It was such a great time, brilliant
:02:34. > :02:36.performance and to come home as Olympic champions was something we
:02:37. > :02:43.will both have in our lives for ever, which is so special. Something
:02:44. > :02:48.to tell our kids and grandkids one day is amazing. It has made us
:02:49. > :02:52.better athletes. It is so simple doing six dives that are all good
:02:53. > :02:58.and that is what we did. Just six dives that were better than everyone
:02:59. > :03:03.else. It just seems so weird to be Olympic champions. It is amazing.
:03:04. > :03:09.Was the moment when you thought, this is it, we are back to what we
:03:10. > :03:14.know, we want more medals? I say, if I was to win the big games, I would
:03:15. > :03:19.quit at any age because I would quit as the best. But I got back and it
:03:20. > :03:24.just inspired me to more. Basically I am the kind of person who has
:03:25. > :03:28.changed sport and progress the sport onwards in terms of the difficulty
:03:29. > :03:32.of the dives and stuff. I still have that dream and I want to be
:03:33. > :03:37.remembered as one of the greatest in this sport. I am passionate about
:03:38. > :03:40.diving, I love it to bits. It has taken me this far but I feel there
:03:41. > :03:48.is stuff I want to still achieve and stuff I want to do. Here I am and
:03:49. > :03:55.still enjoying it. Pick up the men's synchro in the fourth round. With
:03:56. > :03:56.three dives to go, here are your commentator, Leon Taylor and
:03:57. > :04:41.Catherine Downes. It is exceptional from the boys.
:04:42. > :04:48.Just when they needed it as well. The inward three and a half. It is
:04:49. > :04:56.such a difficult dive to get right under pressure and they certainly do
:04:57. > :05:02.that. Just over 11 points in it at the moment is. Jack and Chris in
:05:03. > :05:08.second place now. Now, take a deep breath everybody because here comes
:05:09. > :05:12.the hardest dive in the world and it is our Olympic champions from Great
:05:13. > :05:20.Britain to perform it. Jack Laugher and Chris Mears. Second in the
:05:21. > :05:25.rankings after the last couple of rounds but nailed this and they
:05:26. > :05:26.could do themselves some favours. Forward two and a half somersaults.
:05:27. > :05:53.Three tourists in Pike. Such a difficult dive to do from
:05:54. > :06:03.birth. He did so well to hang on. Just about square that died up on
:06:04. > :06:07.the finish. Making a mistake on the hurdle step, which is on the end.
:06:08. > :06:16.You can see by the interaction he is having with his coach. Will that
:06:17. > :06:26.proved to be critical? That is not good. Now there is a massive gap for
:06:27. > :06:31.Jack and Chris to make up after the competition. Just one dive left to
:06:32. > :06:36.and they have given themselves a lot to do if they want to make the
:06:37. > :06:41.podium here in Budapest. The Russians, in with a chance. They
:06:42. > :06:52.were third at the previous round. 3.4 degrees of difficulty here.
:06:53. > :07:00.The Russians have taken it on. They can blow hot and cold. I did suspect
:07:01. > :07:06.that the watching them in the prelims, they are on form. Certainly
:07:07. > :07:10.some good showings earlier in the year at the World Series and they
:07:11. > :07:14.have saved the bus for the World Championship final. The Russians
:07:15. > :07:19.have catapulted themselves into the lead with the Chinese still to come.
:07:20. > :07:24.It will be down to the last round to decide the silver and bronze, but it
:07:25. > :07:28.looks as though with a good dive here, the Chinese could cement their
:07:29. > :07:37.lead going in. But this is a very difficult dive. It is, 3.6 on the
:07:38. > :07:50.difficulty scale. These are the leaders.
:07:51. > :08:10.Slightly blown, slightly botched. Not enough to sacrifice their lead.
:08:11. > :08:18.But the Russians putting pressure on the Chinese. Look at this. Banana
:08:19. > :08:25.men, both of them, hitting the water. Execution will be five on
:08:26. > :08:31.one, seven .5 for the others. This is tight at the top, the Chinese
:08:32. > :08:37.have just given away the huge lead they have. Only five points now.
:08:38. > :08:48.Chinese still in front, but coming into this last round, it is tight at
:08:49. > :08:56.the top. A big dive, forward for the half somersaults in talk.
:08:57. > :09:11.-- tuck. This is massive from the Ukrainians. This is a stonking dive
:09:12. > :09:16.to finish. There you go, thrown down the marker. Different spin speeds,
:09:17. > :09:28.but look at this at the entry. This is going to get close. 97! That just
:09:29. > :09:35.goes to show what you can gain from taking the risk. Here come Jack and
:09:36. > :09:46.Chris. They are doing exactly the same dive. Just like the Ukrainians,
:09:47. > :09:52.please. Yes, we would like to see a mirror image dive please, if you
:09:53. > :09:56.want to win a medal at the World Championships. Fourth after the last
:09:57. > :10:08.round, this for a World Championship medal.
:10:09. > :10:21.It was almost there! There is Jack's mum. Plenty of supporters in the
:10:22. > :10:26.crowd. Take-off is good, spin speed is better than the Ukrainians.
:10:27. > :10:30.Little bit of a fault from Chris, slightly short of vertical.
:10:31. > :10:35.Frustrating for the boys, they put in a valiant effort with some
:10:36. > :10:38.unfortunate preparation with injury and board maintenance issues, they
:10:39. > :10:45.could finish outside the medals today. An agonising wait for them.
:10:46. > :10:51.Here come the Russians and they too are doing the same dive. 3.8 degrees
:10:52. > :10:55.difficulty. Hold onto your hats, Leon. These guys are in the silver
:10:56. > :11:15.position at the moment. Sensational from the Russians. They
:11:16. > :11:18.are on fire. They nailed this in the premiums, they scored a massive 98
:11:19. > :11:24.points and they have done exactly the same again. This has put untold
:11:25. > :11:27.pressure on the Chinese. The Russians will be top of the
:11:28. > :11:33.leaderboard after this amazing effort. They are going to get over
:11:34. > :11:42.100 points. Look at that. And the Russian commentator, he was going
:11:43. > :11:47.apoplectic. Quite right. That is the dive of the competition so far. I
:11:48. > :11:50.know we are only on day one of Budapest, now China in a position
:11:51. > :11:57.where there is a lot of pressure on them. They are doing exactly the
:11:58. > :12:03.same dive. How will they respond? They have let the world so far and
:12:04. > :12:08.it is all about keeping a cool head. For World Championship gold...
:12:09. > :12:24.Forward for and a. No, I will not be good enough. They
:12:25. > :12:29.need 96 points. The Russians know it, I will back them as well.
:12:30. > :12:36.Russia, gold, China, silver and the Ukraine bronze. How interesting, the
:12:37. > :12:40.Chinese pairing who have been faultless all year, feeling the
:12:41. > :12:48.pressure on their last dive. The Russians are world champions. It is
:12:49. > :12:56.confirmed. After three silver medals at the last three World
:12:57. > :13:02.Championships, the Russian pair of Zakharov and Kuznetsov, finally win
:13:03. > :13:07.their gold medal. And agonisingly for the Olympic champions, Jack
:13:08. > :13:14.Laugher and Chris Mears, they finish in fourth. Today is a bit of
:13:15. > :13:23.heartache because we wanted to medal at this event, but this is how it
:13:24. > :13:27.turned out. A technical issue with my head men's I went than a few
:13:28. > :13:39.mistakes cropped up. At this level, you make mistakes. What do you put
:13:40. > :13:47.it down to, Jack? Massive respective Ukrainians. They were not expected
:13:48. > :13:52.to medal. We are disappointed. First of all, the first dives were
:13:53. > :14:00.fantastic, the last two sucked. No excuse, even with injuries, we are
:14:01. > :14:04.disappointed. You can hear and see the disappointment. How disappointed
:14:05. > :14:11.will they be with that? That would have been an easy bronze for them
:14:12. > :14:14.except for the big error on their last dive. They are the Olympic
:14:15. > :14:20.champions and you are the pair to be. They were beating easily today
:14:21. > :14:25.by Russia, and China. Do you think the pressure got to them, going into
:14:26. > :14:29.the Olympics, it was a surprise gold medal. But now they are the mark
:14:30. > :14:35.men? That will always play on your mind. How frustrating must it be not
:14:36. > :14:41.having your coach, not having diving boards the train on, it was a good
:14:42. > :14:49.effort, but you can see they will be back again. It was a difficult dive
:14:50. > :14:54.they mopped up, so they will be contenders in the future? It is high
:14:55. > :14:59.risk, high rewards. There is a glint in their eyes, there will be some
:15:00. > :15:03.diving to be done. Your glass is always half full and I love that
:15:04. > :15:08.about you. Let's go to the women's three metres synchro. Grace Reid and
:15:09. > :15:10.Catherine torrents are a new partnership. Let's join them in the
:15:11. > :15:18.fourth round. If they can keep their cool here
:15:19. > :15:22.with a reverse 2.5 somersault with Pike, they could leapfrog the
:15:23. > :15:36.Ukraine, and claw their way up the leaderboard. 3.0 degrees of
:15:37. > :15:42.difficulty. Yes, they have stepped up again, died after dive, a
:15:43. > :15:49.magnificent effort from our girls. Superb! All the way through,
:15:50. > :15:56.synchronisation. A little scruffy into the water, they will not get
:15:57. > :16:06.more than sevens but execution is well worth eight. A lovely
:16:07. > :16:11.fourth-round effort there. These are the Canadians, forward 3.5
:16:12. > :16:31.somersaults with Pike, difficulty of 3.1. There is your answer! Oh,
:16:32. > :16:35.Canada! That was the dive that they needed, if this had gone awry, they
:16:36. > :16:42.would have put themselves in hot water. But, actually, they have come
:16:43. > :16:49.out and spiked it. Forward 3.5 in the pike position, 3.1. This will
:16:50. > :16:54.keep them right up there. 75, and certainly on for a medal. Barring an
:16:55. > :17:03.absolute disaster in the last round, which I do not think will happen!
:17:04. > :17:08.This is a high-quality final. These are the highest quality divers in it
:17:09. > :17:17.so far. Barring major upset in their last two dives, China on for gold.
:17:18. > :17:21.3.0 difficulty. Canada are not making it easy for them. No, the
:17:22. > :17:32.pressure is on, which is how we like it!
:17:33. > :17:42.Well, it is a very loud and clear response. From the leaders, from
:17:43. > :17:54.China. The synchronisation is just super! Nines on synchronisation,
:17:55. > :18:00.well, 8.5s, a little off on execution, how tight is it?
:18:01. > :18:04.Unusually so, isn't it? Yes, the gap has closed at the top of the table,
:18:05. > :18:18.only six points between Canada and China. Grease and Kat in sixth, not
:18:19. > :18:24.doing badly at all. -- grace. They are looking for a strong finish with
:18:25. > :18:27.a back 2.5 somersault in Pike for the first World Championship
:18:28. > :18:44.together. Come on, girls, let's see what you are made of!
:18:45. > :18:55.A tremendous dive to finish on! Back 2.5 somersaults in pike position.
:18:56. > :19:01.Strong take-off, good on the spin speed. A little scruffy going into
:19:02. > :19:07.the water on the execution. But the synchronisation is worthy of eights.
:19:08. > :19:16.The girls have upped the game, look at that! 294.6, wonderful diving
:19:17. > :19:21.from start to finish. The pressure is on the Canadians now, with an
:19:22. > :19:48.inward 2.5 somersaults with pike, 5.0 degrees of difficulty.
:19:49. > :19:57.Yes, it has gone well enough. That will be at least silver for Canada.
:19:58. > :20:04.This pair have just dived well all day. Different spin speed but that
:20:05. > :20:07.is the only thing wrong with that from a synchronisation point of
:20:08. > :20:14.view. Canada, delivering again and again. Jennifer Abel, beautiful
:20:15. > :20:22.diving, new partner coming along, three, two, three -- 323. A
:20:23. > :20:31.wonderful and high-quality field. They know it is a World Championship
:20:32. > :20:35.medal in the bag. Silver medal, for now, barring an enormous mistake on
:20:36. > :20:42.the part of these ladies. They have led from the get go. China, four
:20:43. > :20:44.World Championship gold, forward 2.5 somersault, a twist with pike, 5.0
:20:45. > :21:07.degrees of difficulty. Unflappable! That is top notch once
:21:08. > :21:13.again. Gold, for China. They have won the event on the bounce many
:21:14. > :21:19.times, unbeaten in the World Series. Leading into this contest, and
:21:20. > :21:25.unbeaten today. Dive after dive after dive, just too good to keep up
:21:26. > :21:31.with. They have filled their destiny, haven't they? A clean sweep
:21:32. > :21:35.of golds in the World Series, and there is confirmation. Straight
:21:36. > :21:49.nines in the synchronisation scores, and it is back-to-back world titles
:21:50. > :21:52.for Shi, diving with her new partner, Chang. Grace Reid and catch
:21:53. > :21:58.Torrance finished in fifth position. We are over the moon, it wasn't our
:21:59. > :22:03.ideal start but we regrouped, went back and gave it all we had. A great
:22:04. > :22:08.result. Compared to some of the pairings are there, you haven't been
:22:09. > :22:12.together long, what you've achieved is a boost going forward? Yes, we've
:22:13. > :22:22.only been together about six months but it is a great pairing! LAUGHTER
:22:23. > :22:25.Fifth place for the girls there, and Kat torrents finishing ninth in the
:22:26. > :22:32.final on the springboard, Maddison Keeney of Australia took the top
:22:33. > :22:41.spot in that one. Ross Haslam placed tenth in the final here, it was
:22:42. > :22:45.China's representative who won gold. Tom Daley and Daniel Goodfellow got
:22:46. > :22:48.themselves a bronze medal on the ten-metre synchronisation, in
:22:49. > :22:52.Budapest here they are hoping to get on the podium once more. In the
:22:53. > :22:56.fifth round, they are hot on the heels of the Germans, diving
:22:57. > :23:03.first... COMMENTATOR: These big guns, taking to the platform, a
:23:04. > :23:07.reverse 3.5 somersault in Park, 3.4 degrees of difficulty for Germany.
:23:08. > :23:19.Their fans in the crowd willing them on towards a World Championship
:23:20. > :23:24.medal... Ooh! Germany with the air horn as well... Encouraging them
:23:25. > :23:32.before and after their dive, plenty of fans here. And the old guard, the
:23:33. > :23:43.old guys, are they beginning to rule? Wait and see. They are right
:23:44. > :23:47.up there. It's game on! 8.5s across-the-board for synchronisation
:23:48. > :23:55.and execution. Germany, keeping their cool. Now, this one is tricky.
:23:56. > :24:04.3.7 degrees of difficulty, forward 4.5 somersault with Tata for the
:24:05. > :24:15.Russians. -- with a tuck, for the Russians.
:24:16. > :24:26.That can prove to be decisive! The Russians are hot to trot. Fist pumps
:24:27. > :24:30.from the coaches. This is big, big diving. Interestingly, they swapped
:24:31. > :24:35.sides on this one, I do not know why, it is just a comfort thing.
:24:36. > :24:40.Look at the spin speed, if this gets above 90 points they will be
:24:41. > :24:50.difficult to catch. They do not quite make it, 89.91, meaning their
:24:51. > :24:57.competition is still on... This is it, a decisive point for Tom Daley
:24:58. > :25:01.and Daniel Goodfellow. Rio 2016 bronze medal lists, back 3.5
:25:02. > :25:02.somersaults with pike, 3.6 degrees of difficulty, keeping up the
:25:03. > :25:24.pressure on the Germans. Aah... Sugar! Mark Houldsworth
:25:25. > :25:33.holding his chest, the flag is being flickered. The error, sadly, was on
:25:34. > :25:39.execution. It was on dan, he led his dive -- he let his dived over
:25:40. > :25:44.rotate, only scoring three. The British team, as hard as they
:25:45. > :25:47.worked, you can see there is no magic rewind button, you cannot take
:25:48. > :25:56.it back but sadly, there is no medal. No medal for Great Britain,
:25:57. > :26:03.that would be too big a mountain to climb for Tom and Dan, but these
:26:04. > :26:13.guys look sure to get gold. 3.7 degrees of difficulty. Phenomenal,
:26:14. > :26:17.isn't it? If it was going to go wrong it might have gone slightly
:26:18. > :26:24.there, but it was world class. They are streets ahead. Unaffected by
:26:25. > :26:34.other competitors, the crowd, the lights, the dry ice, its 8.5s on
:26:35. > :26:41.synchronisation but a monster 95, and they are already almost over
:26:42. > :26:49.400. A masterclass from China so far, they are streets ahead. Here
:26:50. > :27:00.are the Germans. Diving for a World Championship medal.
:27:01. > :27:09.They are going to be an uncatchable with that! The ground ats have done
:27:10. > :27:18.it! Who says that the old guys do not rule? -- grandads. An amazing
:27:19. > :27:26.pair of dives from the experienced, and just deserved. These guys work
:27:27. > :27:30.their proverbial backsides off! They have been diving for decades, with
:27:31. > :27:35.more medals in more championships than most people. They have just
:27:36. > :27:40.added a World Championship medal to that collection. Another one! Yes,
:27:41. > :27:44.we will just have to wait and see what colour it is depending on how
:27:45. > :27:54.the Russians go. Here are the Russians. In silver medal position
:27:55. > :27:58.at the moment. Back to .5 somersaults, 2.5 twist with pike,
:27:59. > :27:59.6.3 degrees of difficulty, to consolidate World Championship
:28:00. > :28:29.silver. Faultless from the Russians!
:28:30. > :28:34.Absolutely faultless. World Championship silver, nailed on.
:28:35. > :28:39.Absolutely nailed on. This is really something special. What a dive to
:28:40. > :28:44.finish on. That is their banker dive, they always choose to finish
:28:45. > :28:51.on this one. And they have really saved the best until last. 90
:28:52. > :28:56.points, what is that? 458. A monster score! Well, this is it for Tom
:28:57. > :29:01.Daley and Daniel Goodfellow, their final dive together at this World
:29:02. > :29:07.Championships. Too much work to do to reach the podium, but let's at
:29:08. > :29:13.least have a solid finish, boys. Forward 4.5 somersaults with tuck,
:29:14. > :29:14.3.7 degrees of difficulty. This is a tricky one. Let's finish on a
:29:15. > :29:31.high... They do! Just a glimmer of what they
:29:32. > :29:36.can do. They smashed this one in the preliminaries, and nailed it in the
:29:37. > :29:39.final. The director cutting to the Germans there. They can do their
:29:40. > :29:46.maths and they know that even with 12s, the British may not have caught
:29:47. > :29:50.them. That is a good dive, what a shame that they messed up their
:29:51. > :29:55.fifth round dive, but it is six consistent dives and you make one
:29:56. > :29:59.mistake, you are out of it. Do they leapfrog the Ukraine? They did. It
:30:00. > :30:06.is forth for GB, quite a long way off the pace. There is no worse
:30:07. > :30:10.position than fourth, is there? In the competition. It feels like these
:30:11. > :30:14.guys could tumble off the ten-metre platform into the gold medal
:30:15. > :30:19.position. They have been faultless throughout. With this, then, for
:30:20. > :30:24.back-to-back World Championships for the Chinese. Back to .5 somersaults,
:30:25. > :30:41.2.5 twist with pike. 3.6 degrees of difficulties.
:30:42. > :31:00.If you even need me to confirm it, that is gold the China.
:31:01. > :31:12.The judges are slightly tighter than they might be. This will be an
:31:13. > :31:25.absolute monster. Descartes ten for execution. Just 1.5 points off the
:31:26. > :31:33.mark. Holy Moly. It has been a masterclass from the Chinese. No
:31:34. > :31:38.medal for time and down to go with the bronze medal in Rio. It has
:31:39. > :31:44.qualified as for the World Series next year. We can take massive
:31:45. > :31:48.positives, our entrance is looking better, synchronisation away from
:31:49. > :31:53.the board is better. With more training and more time to practice,
:31:54. > :31:58.we will be all right. We were only 20 points off the medals with a big
:31:59. > :32:05.miss. It says a lot. We are always in the Huns, which is nice. I had to
:32:06. > :32:09.pull out of the World Series and I didn't get the volume I needed to
:32:10. > :32:13.compete well in the World Series. I felt great when I came here, decent
:32:14. > :32:18.amount of dives under my belt, just a shame for earlier in the season. I
:32:19. > :32:21.am looking forward to getting back to the gym and getting fit so I am
:32:22. > :32:28.ready for the World Series next year. They finished in fourth, but
:32:29. > :32:34.they were a way of the medals? Won the fifth round dive cost them the
:32:35. > :32:38.medal. They were 20 points off the medal, and they were 25 points down
:32:39. > :32:43.on what they could have achieved. You have got to do six good dives,
:32:44. > :32:47.but you have got to do five. They talked about their preparation not
:32:48. > :32:52.been great, but they also said that going into Rio and it didn't bother
:32:53. > :32:58.them then, so how did this affect them? Dan has been out of action
:32:59. > :33:08.from almost an entire season. They haven't done any synchro, so it was
:33:09. > :33:13.a bit more of a mad rush before Rio. Poor preparation and in fourth, that
:33:14. > :33:20.was a positive, but they want medals. Let's turn to the women's
:33:21. > :33:26.ten-metre synchro. Tonya Crouch, has competed on every international
:33:27. > :33:33.stage. They got fifth in Rio and they are hoping to build on that in
:33:34. > :33:42.Budapest. We have grown together so much, we have been together a year,
:33:43. > :33:46.not even that long. I enjoy training and competing. She has a lot more
:33:47. > :33:54.experience than me, get to work with her, it helps. How much has it
:33:55. > :33:58.changed over dear? We know each other more, we know how we are
:33:59. > :34:03.feeling on the board and we can work well together. When we got together,
:34:04. > :34:09.she was a little girl, now she has become a young woman. It has been
:34:10. > :34:17.lovely to watch grow. How has that impacted the you dive together? I am
:34:18. > :34:23.still young! She keeps it young and fresh. If you don't get on as a
:34:24. > :34:28.pair, it isn't going to work. I have watched people argue and jump off
:34:29. > :34:32.the boards, not get on. Not from our country. But they won't get medals.
:34:33. > :34:38.If we get on, like we do, anything can happen. We joined the women's
:34:39. > :34:42.ten metres synchro in the fourth round. They are in eighth place, but
:34:43. > :34:58.growing into the competition. COMMENTATOR: What can they do? 3.2
:34:59. > :35:09.degrees difficulty here for the Brits. This is the bogey dive. It
:35:10. > :35:25.was of the market in the prelims. Time to step it up now, girls.
:35:26. > :35:34.It is better, it is much much better. I had to pull myself back
:35:35. > :35:39.from shrieking really loudly. All good, entries look like they will be
:35:40. > :35:44.fine. Just look at the splash coming up. Much better synchronisation.
:35:45. > :35:49.Better execution than this morning. But I don't think it will be good
:35:50. > :36:00.enough to challenge strong enough for the medals. Little bit
:36:01. > :36:05.disappointed. Here are the North Korean 's in the silver medal
:36:06. > :36:06.position at the moment. They know and medal is very much on the cards
:36:07. > :36:43.if this goes well. Good enough, good enough. Good
:36:44. > :36:49.synchronisation. Superb synchronisation in fact. Kim,
:36:50. > :36:53.closest to us, not getting her hands together on the entry, putting up a
:36:54. > :36:58.bit of splash. I thought they would crank up the pressure on the
:36:59. > :37:05.Chinese. They have kept it on. I was hoping it was going to be a bit
:37:06. > :37:10.more, just to spice it up a bit. They are ahead by four points, from
:37:11. > :37:12.the Malaysians, but here come the Chinese. They had a 6-point lead
:37:13. > :37:39.from the last round. There you go! There is the response.
:37:40. > :37:44.Far superior to what we have seen from all of the other pairs. That is
:37:45. > :37:52.banged on the money, all the way from start to finish. Spin speed,
:37:53. > :37:58.distance from the board, entry into the water, execution and
:37:59. > :38:04.synchronicity. 9.5 in there for synchronisation, that doesn't count
:38:05. > :38:08.to average things out. That is a commanding lead for China. They are
:38:09. > :38:17.head and shoulders clear of the field. Here come the Brits, our last
:38:18. > :38:22.chance for Great Britain. Currently in seventh. This needs to be very
:38:23. > :38:35.good indeed if we are to be anywhere near the podium. An impossible task.
:38:36. > :38:49.But Lois and Tonia will want to finish with a bang, nevertheless.
:38:50. > :39:04.They saved the best till last. But too little too late for the girls
:39:05. > :39:08.today. Watching on, supporting. Wasn't to be for a medal for best
:39:09. > :39:13.pairing today. They will be medal of the pack. They have stepped up from
:39:14. > :39:21.the prelims. They have been outclassed today. Good effort, but
:39:22. > :39:23.it won't be good enough for a medal. Here are the North Koreans. Silver
:39:24. > :39:46.medal position. What a fantastic showing today from
:39:47. > :39:50.the North Koreans. That is impressive diving. Five out of five,
:39:51. > :39:56.they have been unfaltering all the way through. They have stepped it up
:39:57. > :40:02.from the prelims as well, even though they finished in second place
:40:03. > :40:07.there. Silver medal for sure. Let's see what the Chinese can do to
:40:08. > :40:12.finish. They are up next. That is the dive of the meet so forth. Back
:40:13. > :40:18.cranks up the pressure on the Chinese, who are the last two dive.
:40:19. > :40:31.Nailed this and they will be world champions. Just back, 2.5
:40:32. > :40:50.somersaults with one and a half pipe. -- Pike. No shadow of a doubt,
:40:51. > :40:58.a tremendous showing today from this very, very formidable pair from
:40:59. > :41:05.China. Non-the other pairs were able to knock them off their game. Dive
:41:06. > :41:11.at the dive, after dive, finishing as strongly as they started.
:41:12. > :41:23.Sensational diving from the Chinese. Gold, without a shadow of a doubt.
:41:24. > :41:33.And there is the confirmation, China, once again, Queens of the
:41:34. > :41:42.ten-metre platform. North Korea with silver, Malaysia with bronze. Tonia
:41:43. > :41:46.and Lois finished in seventh. I thought we dived really well. We
:41:47. > :41:50.have gone away happier than we did this morning. What things can you do
:41:51. > :41:56.over the next few months to move things on as a pair? Everything is
:41:57. > :41:58.looking good, it is working on the finer things the judges pick up.
:41:59. > :42:09.That will make the finishing touches. 12 months on from winning
:42:10. > :42:19.Olympic silver in Olympics, Jack Laugher is aiming the world goal.
:42:20. > :42:24.Tom Daley is in the mixed springboard and Tom looks to avenge
:42:25. > :42:31.his real heartbreak in the individual ten-metre platform. That
:42:32. > :42:35.is a it has been a testing week that the divers in Budapest, but going
:42:36. > :42:45.into the team event with Britain won in the last World Championships, it
:42:46. > :42:50.was the French who took top spot in that event. But hopes are high in
:42:51. > :42:55.the men's individual three metre springboard, Jack Laugher goes in
:42:56. > :42:57.that one, joined in the final by Ross Haslam. We joined the event in
:42:58. > :43:03.the fifth round. Ross Haslam has been diving very
:43:04. > :43:29.nicely indeed. Yes, five out of five. All you can
:43:30. > :43:35.ask for is consistency. Just diving at your best and that is what we are
:43:36. > :43:41.seeing from Ross Haslam. I was thinking, he has made it to the
:43:42. > :43:49.final, he might let it all go, but do you know what? He is diving even
:43:50. > :43:54.better. This is the dive, his bogey dive at that has cost him medals in
:43:55. > :44:02.years gone by recently, but he is better at this now. Can he make it
:44:03. > :44:09.count? He didn't make it easy for himself. Toes hanging over the end
:44:10. > :44:18.of the diving board. The problem he used to have, he would throw it
:44:19. > :44:25.halfway down the pool. I don't know. He has been caned by the judges, he
:44:26. > :44:43.did well to complete the dive because the take-off was so poor.
:44:44. > :44:48.Patrick Hausding, Germany. Patrick Hausding making a play. Look at
:44:49. > :44:57.that. Zakharov, opening the door. This man with the most difficult
:44:58. > :45:01.dive. Forward, 4.5 in the top position. He has burst through the
:45:02. > :45:06.doors with conviction and that statement of fact. And that fact is,
:45:07. > :45:14.I am having a World Championship medal, as long as I don't mess of my
:45:15. > :45:19.final dive. This makes things very interesting.
:45:20. > :45:28.The final is hotting up now. Which means that Jack Laugher could be in
:45:29. > :45:32.with a chance? This is inwards 3.5 in a pike position, I did not even
:45:33. > :45:37.know that this was humanly possible! We will find out... He has been
:45:38. > :45:50.doing it all day. And done a good job of it as well. Watch this.
:45:51. > :46:09.Ooh on demand! Hit the bones out of that. He's the only one that can do
:46:10. > :46:16.this... 3.7, this is supersonic. Wow, catch me if you can! That's
:46:17. > :46:27.what that says. Yes, he must surely extend his grip on that top spot.
:46:28. > :46:32.Right then, Jack... He has seen some fault and some step up and just out
:46:33. > :46:40.of the medal places at the moment in fourth position, A forwards 4.5
:46:41. > :46:45.somersault, to keep alive his World Championship medal hopes, come on,
:46:46. > :46:55.Jack, stay in the mix with one dive to go...
:46:56. > :47:03.Ooh... You go. You can see the grimace from Mark Houldsworth, as
:47:04. > :47:08.part of the coaching team. A great take-off from Jack, just coming out
:47:09. > :47:11.of the dive a fraction too early, leaving the dive short. He will
:47:12. > :47:20.still be up there, in third position at the moment as you can see. He is,
:47:21. > :47:26.he is in there. Just a couple of points ahead of Sakharov, in fourth
:47:27. > :47:32.position, breathing down his neck but Jack Laugher in bronze medal
:47:33. > :47:45.position. This man is toted toe, head-to-head, shoulder to shoulder
:47:46. > :47:53.with our man, Jack Laugher. He has just pulled out from the
:47:54. > :47:59.bottom of his diving toy box a very well polished and presented 4.5 in
:48:00. > :48:07.tuck position. Firmly putting the pressure on Jack Laugher, up in
:48:08. > :48:11.moments time... The Olympic champion from London 2012 fancying a medal
:48:12. > :48:25.here, and he has done everything in his power. 505 is a lovely total. He
:48:26. > :48:30.must wait. Year is Patrick Hausding, currently in silver medal position,
:48:31. > :48:39.three twists, pike 3.9 degrees difficulty a big last dive from the
:48:40. > :48:42.German. Ooh, what a dive! Patrick Hausding, helicopter fleet, yes, but
:48:43. > :48:52.that was the best I have seen him do that. Yes, that is at least a silver
:48:53. > :48:56.for the German. The German grandad I referred to the other day with his
:48:57. > :49:00.partner, a little harsh but his experience is coming in. He locked
:49:01. > :49:05.his legs a little there, understandably with so much going
:49:06. > :49:13.on. There is the fist pump, what a round of dives. Six out of six, 526,
:49:14. > :49:26.a monster score. That man is in a gold medal position. Yes, were you
:49:27. > :49:42.watching? Our current leader, Siyi Xie, four World Championship gold...
:49:43. > :49:57.'S, it's a gold this man. He has out dive to everyone. No mistakes. Dive
:49:58. > :50:10.after dive after dive, quality and exquisite from start to finish. 547.
:50:11. > :50:16.Remarkable. Now, Jack has to do the dive of his life. This is back 3.5,
:50:17. > :50:21.3.6 degrees of difficulty, and of course Zakharov nailed his 3.8. So,
:50:22. > :50:25.Jack has less firepower and therefore he needs 9-9.5s otherwise
:50:26. > :50:49.he will be in fourth again. It is really good! Is it 96 points
:50:50. > :50:54.off good, though? Will he get 9.5s? No, I think that will be an
:50:55. > :51:00.agonising fourth Place, for Jack Lew has battled his way through the
:51:01. > :51:14.final. -- for Jack Laugher, who has battled. Zakharov just beating him
:51:15. > :51:24.in the final dive, no, he is even in fifth, beaten by half a point. This
:51:25. > :51:27.is confirmation for you. The world champion is Siyi Xie, Patrick
:51:28. > :51:32.Hausding with his second medal of the World Championships in silver,
:51:33. > :51:36.and Russian Zakharov taking bronze. Jack Laugher, five points off a
:51:37. > :51:40.World Championship medal, slipping into fifth. Dreadful from start to
:51:41. > :51:45.finish, the opener was awful and the third dive was awful as well. Some
:51:46. > :51:51.good dives in there still, five points off a medal wasn't good
:51:52. > :51:54.enough. What has gone wrong this week? I don't know, I felt good and
:51:55. > :51:58.prepared and free of injury, everything was in the right place.
:51:59. > :52:02.We've worked well with my coach, the session before was good but it
:52:03. > :52:08.hasn't fallen into place today. I felt nervous and stressed before the
:52:09. > :52:11.competition, which obviously showed. Agonising for Jack Laugher, an
:52:12. > :52:17.understandable amount of frustration there. In the women's three-metre
:52:18. > :52:23.springboard event, Grace Reid got into the final, the 21-year-old is
:52:24. > :52:29.in fifth position in this round... COMMENTATOR: Grace Reid, focus, back
:52:30. > :52:32.doing half somersaults in pike, 3.0 on the difficulty scale for Grace
:52:33. > :52:44.Reid of Great Britain, her penultimate dive.
:52:45. > :52:53.Yes, come on, Grace. Well done. And faltering, like the first four
:52:54. > :52:57.athletes of this round, Great Britain's Grace Reid pulls a beauty
:52:58. > :53:02.out of the bag when she needed it most. She is right up in the
:53:03. > :53:10.business end of the field. That will keep her right on the money. Well
:53:11. > :53:17.done, Grace! This is Jennifer Abel of Canada, forward 2.5 somersaults,
:53:18. > :53:18.two twists with pike, 3.4 degrees of difficulty this one. So, much more
:53:19. > :53:28.tricky. She has nailed it! Just when she
:53:29. > :53:35.needed to. Looking a little off form, Jennifer Abel really takes the
:53:36. > :53:43.competition by storm. This is a huge risk, right here. 3.4 degrees of
:53:44. > :53:47.difficulty. Jennifer and Maddison Keeney the only women on the planet
:53:48. > :53:56.capable of doing this dive. She has come away with 7.5s. That will help
:53:57. > :54:01.her campaign. Here come the Chinese in gold and silver medal positions
:54:02. > :54:02.respectively at the moment, a forward 3.5 somersaults in pike, 3.1
:54:03. > :54:23.degrees of difficulty Very well executed indeed. We have
:54:24. > :54:30.seen a lot of faltering. But, we are not seeing any faltering from this
:54:31. > :54:43.young lady. It is quite a difference to the platform dive, these are
:54:44. > :54:49.teenagers from China, 16 and 18. Han Wang and Tingmao Shi 21 and 25,
:54:50. > :54:51.showing their experience. This is 3.1 degrees of difficulties for the
:54:52. > :55:09.reigning world and Olympic champion. Nice... And faltering, even with a
:55:10. > :55:15.dodgy take-off. Toes right over the end. The Chinese athletes have a lot
:55:16. > :55:20.of strapping on their feet, haven't they? On their toes, on their feet,
:55:21. > :55:27.ankles... It leads to a good effect, though. Tingmao Shi still
:55:28. > :55:33.effortlessly top of the leaderboard. She will definitely win the gold,
:55:34. > :55:43.barring a calamitous last dive, all of the rest have it all to play for.
:55:44. > :55:50.And here is Grace Reid. Come on, Grace. Is 3.0 degrees of difficulty
:55:51. > :56:05.for Greece to finish off her World Championships in some style.
:56:06. > :56:16.She saves the best until last. A wonderful list of dives from Grace,
:56:17. > :56:21.with many other athletes faltering, she has been unwavering, steady and
:56:22. > :56:25.consistent dive after dive, she stepped it up from the preliminaries
:56:26. > :56:30.and again after the semifinals and has put in her best effort here this
:56:31. > :56:34.evening, to put pressure on the business end of the field. She will
:56:35. > :56:44.be, I think, outside of the medals for sure. Up on the edge, 336. She
:56:45. > :56:48.is really pleased with that, look at her smile! She is such a cheery
:56:49. > :56:56.character anyway. Great to see her finish with a well-deserved result
:56:57. > :56:59.here in Budapest. Back to .5 somersaults in pike for the World
:57:00. > :57:20.Championship bronze, for Jennifer Abel of Canada.
:57:21. > :57:30.For sure, she has been diving particularly well. By her standards,
:57:31. > :57:35.but she is good enough to dive, not at her best, and still win a World
:57:36. > :57:39.Championship medal. We have pinned the points on her, that is for
:57:40. > :57:46.certain. A slight chance that it might be different. At the moment,
:57:47. > :57:59.here we are, sporting his white shirt... 351. Han Wang of China, 2.5
:58:00. > :58:16.somersaults and one twist in pike, 3.0 degrees of difficulty.
:58:17. > :58:27.Yes, she looked a little nervous. Very steady indeed, but no mistakes
:58:28. > :58:33.from Han Wang, safely confirming that she is second best on the
:58:34. > :58:36.planet at what she does. World Championship silver, finishing eight
:58:37. > :58:42.points in front of Jennifer Abel. She needed at least a 7.5, she could
:58:43. > :58:47.have got away with that. But decisively staking her claim on the
:58:48. > :58:58.silver medal. There is just one woman with the gold in her sights.
:58:59. > :59:04.It is Tingmao Shi. For back-to-back world titles, forward 2.5
:59:05. > :59:17.somersault, one twist in pike, 4.0 difficulty.
:59:18. > :59:23.Boom, drops the mike and leaves the building. World champion again, to
:59:24. > :59:29.go with Olympic gold medal last year. Already a gold medal from the
:59:30. > :59:36.synchronised event. She is, dare I say, the Golden girl of these World
:59:37. > :59:42.Championships. Shi Tingmao, 25 years old and from China. The World
:59:43. > :59:50.Championship gold, convincingly. And, she has sailed so Renee through
:59:51. > :59:54.this final. -- sailed through this final. Grace Reid, the story, as far
:59:55. > :00:01.as Great Britain are concerned, she finishes just outside of the medals
:00:02. > :00:05.in fourth position. Fantastic from her, she kept her cool, eighth in
:00:06. > :00:11.Rio and finishing better here. She can say that she is fourth best in
:00:12. > :00:16.the world, after her season, that is a big, big deal. I don't have words,
:00:17. > :00:20.it feels surreal. I went into the final purely to have fun and enjoy
:00:21. > :00:24.myself in something clicked today which hasn't before! Calla where
:00:25. > :00:32.were you of how well you were going through the rounds or did you block
:00:33. > :00:35.it out? I blocked it out, I don't like knowing where I am sitting. I
:00:36. > :00:38.knew I was diving well, in every dive I was aggressive and confident
:00:39. > :00:43.which showed. Fourth for Grace Reid, 54 Jack Laugher, Grace with a lot of
:00:44. > :00:46.positives? What a performance, she is smiling and loving life and
:00:47. > :00:49.loving competing, she went from the preliminaries which were good,
:00:50. > :00:55.stepping it up for the semifinals and nailing it in the final, taking
:00:56. > :00:58.out some big scalps. Steady fourth-place, impressive. It's
:00:59. > :01:02.interesting, we said hers was a positive fourth, she missed out on a
:01:03. > :01:06.medal but it was a personal best for her. Let's look at Jack Laugher,
:01:07. > :01:10.Olympic silver-medallist and it did not happen for him today and he is
:01:11. > :01:22.understandably frustrated. Annoying for him, it was his undoing. He is
:01:23. > :01:26.an amazing athlete, he is trying to win. If he relaxed a bit more, and
:01:27. > :01:31.let his diving happen, he could wipe the floor with them. It is
:01:32. > :01:34.interesting, Grace has a lot of life outside of diving, in her full-time
:01:35. > :01:39.studies, she has something else to pay attention to. She doesn't have a
:01:40. > :01:46.lot of time for anything else other than diving in Budapest, she is back
:01:47. > :01:56.in action alongside Tom Daley in the mixed synchronised.
:01:57. > :02:14.COMMENTATOR: China with some work to do.
:02:15. > :02:32.The gaps appearing aren't the gaps between the divers on the diving
:02:33. > :02:36.board. That was better by way of synchronisation by Wang and Lee. A
:02:37. > :02:47.marked difference by what we have seen so far in this round. The
:02:48. > :02:48.Canadians look to build on the silver they won at the last World
:02:49. > :03:16.Championships. It is OK. Very consistent, this
:03:17. > :03:25.pair. Marginally out of time on their arm swings and Jennifer Abel
:03:26. > :03:28.over rotating. We didn't see that yesterday in the three metre final
:03:29. > :03:37.when she came away with a bronze. I think she has got away with it. Here
:03:38. > :03:48.come Tom and Grace, diving exactly the same dive. You can come per like
:03:49. > :03:56.for like. -- compare. To push Tom and grades over the halfway mark in
:03:57. > :04:07.this competition. Currently in bronze medal place.
:04:08. > :04:15.Back is the best we have seen. Much better than Canada. Much better than
:04:16. > :04:21.Canada. Look at that lovely rotational speed. Maybe Tom making
:04:22. > :04:40.the dive a little bit easier than grades. Tonia likes it. Pretty handy
:04:41. > :04:45.from grace Anton. Much better. Grace Anton of Great Britain going toe to
:04:46. > :04:53.toe with the Chinese after round three. Team China will be looking
:04:54. > :04:55.for the highest scores. Defending world champion, handwriting with her
:04:56. > :05:18.new partner. Back is a fabulous dive. That is
:05:19. > :05:25.what China have to say to the rest of the competitors, including the
:05:26. > :05:29.British team, Tom and Grace. The Chinese have upped the anti-and they
:05:30. > :05:44.have just put in the dive of the competition. Huge scores coming
:05:45. > :05:48.their way. Good bit of flag-waving. Nine on synchronisation. China and
:05:49. > :06:02.Great Britain tied for the lead after round three. And these guys
:06:03. > :06:17.hot on their heels. The Canadians. Well, a rare mistake from Jennifer
:06:18. > :06:21.Abel. All looking good. Leaving that thy very short of vertical. She is a
:06:22. > :06:33.multiple World Championship medal winning diver. She gets six on
:06:34. > :06:45.execution. Here are grace Anton. Tied for the lead with China. -- and
:06:46. > :07:02.Tom. We need a good one here from Tom and Grace.
:07:03. > :07:12.It is good. That potentially is their bogey dive. Tom just a little
:07:13. > :07:17.bit close to the diving board. Both of them executing the dive
:07:18. > :07:29.reasonably well. What will the judges make of the synchro? Tonia
:07:30. > :07:35.likes it. They didn't like it as much as I would have liked them to
:07:36. > :07:41.like it. And everybody at home would have liked them to like it. Still
:07:42. > :07:46.makes excellent reading for British fans. China have opened up an 11
:07:47. > :07:51.point lead on grace and Tom, who are in silver medal position, seven
:07:52. > :08:04.points ahead of the Canadians. The current leaders, the defending world
:08:05. > :08:08.champion, Han Wang on the left. They have a 9-point lead and they could
:08:09. > :08:18.put this out of reach. This, for the world title for China.
:08:19. > :08:29.Yes. Well, I did mention they could put it out of reach and they have
:08:30. > :08:33.slam dunked it. That is the best dive we have seen from this pair.
:08:34. > :08:45.Superior through and through. Extending their lead dive, after
:08:46. > :08:53.dive. That is very skilful. The Chinese have secured another gold
:08:54. > :09:01.medal. Look at that. There is a lot riding on this, particularly but
:09:02. > :09:04.Jennifer Abel, going for a hat-trick of medals at this World
:09:05. > :09:08.Championship. Already won the bronze in the three metre last night.
:09:09. > :09:19.Silver in the women's three metre synchro as well.
:09:20. > :09:28.OK. It is a good effort. They are lying on the degree of difficulty
:09:29. > :09:34.here to make the impact. From a synchronisation point of view, it is
:09:35. > :09:38.OK. Different distances from the diving board. Execution is OK as
:09:39. > :09:52.well. It depends how harsh the judges are on the synchro. Look at
:09:53. > :10:02.that. Tom and Grace ready to go with their final dive of this World
:10:03. > :10:19.Championship final. If it goes well, it will bring home the silver medal.
:10:20. > :10:40.Yes! Silver again! In the mixed synchro. Tonia is on her feet, and
:10:41. > :10:46.so am I. Well done, Tom, well done, Grace. Something to scream into my
:10:47. > :10:53.microphone about. Get in! That is what we wanted to see, and easy
:10:54. > :11:02.silver for Tom and four Grace. There you go. Celebrations. They won the
:11:03. > :11:05.European title together last year, but that World Championship silver
:11:06. > :11:15.medal will taste very, very sweet indeed. Has been surreal, I haven't
:11:16. > :11:18.slept very well, but a great way to end my first World Championship.
:11:19. > :11:25.Tell us what the silver medal means, it is a new one, but the challenge
:11:26. > :11:28.for the divers? It is difficult to find a partner to match a
:11:29. > :11:32.springboard girl. Tom and I have been training hard and we work well
:11:33. > :11:38.together. Fantastic set of dives, still not at our best, but so
:11:39. > :11:43.please. Surprised to see Tom on the three metre, is it a surprise they
:11:44. > :11:46.got a silver medal? The mixed three metre synchro, I was watching them
:11:47. > :11:52.train and I thought it would be a close run thing. This trailing is,
:11:53. > :11:57.Canadians, and others. Chinese will always be very strong and I thought
:11:58. > :12:01.we could get a medal in this. I was delighted to see them dive
:12:02. > :12:04.consistently. That is all they needed to do. Tom has had big
:12:05. > :12:12.spectator and is of the world on his shoulder for some time, is this more
:12:13. > :12:16.fun for him? Yes, the hours he put it on the platform, it is a bit of a
:12:17. > :12:21.break. He and Grace get on so well and you can see that in their
:12:22. > :12:32.diving. We also got a medal earlier in the week, so cast your mind back.
:12:33. > :12:43.Never knowing who wear the front runners, but what was possible, I
:12:44. > :12:48.thought they held their nerve and got across the line. Fantastic start
:12:49. > :12:59.to the World Championships. We have seen some tears from Lois when it
:13:00. > :13:05.brings Hammond on her way. It shows what you can do when you hold your
:13:06. > :13:12.composure. The mixed event will be Olympic events? They were turned
:13:13. > :13:19.down for 2020, so let's wait and C. They did take a lot of the boxes on
:13:20. > :13:26.the agenda trying to get more mixed event in, so it holds potential.
:13:27. > :13:33.Fingers crossed, we caught up with Matty and Lois. Our first
:13:34. > :13:37.competition on a world stage. What does this mean to you and talk us
:13:38. > :13:44.through the challenges in this mixed event? We have only been training
:13:45. > :13:47.together about a year and we have shown good performances all over
:13:48. > :13:52.Europe and in Britain and this is our first world competition. It is
:13:53. > :13:59.really difficult because it is hard to do synchro with a boy and girl
:14:00. > :14:04.pairing. So I think we sit very well together on the board. I think I am
:14:05. > :14:09.relaxed with Lois a lot when she is on the board, it is a good
:14:10. > :14:18.partnership. Grateful to get a medal in the bad, but as Lois alluded to,
:14:19. > :14:23.they didn't make the final. That was won by Malaysia. Now we turn to the
:14:24. > :14:28.final event, the men's ten-metre platform. Going to the World
:14:29. > :14:32.Championships, it is the next biggest thing from Lealofi games.
:14:33. > :14:37.You have the Olympic Games full of prestige, but the World
:14:38. > :14:41.Championships is tougher because you have almost doubled the amount of
:14:42. > :14:46.participants. It does make it quite interesting, especially the year
:14:47. > :14:50.after the Olympics. What is the target for this one? The target are,
:14:51. > :14:55.I have already surpassed my expectations this year in terms of
:14:56. > :14:59.after the Olympics, I wanted to take a bit of a break and may be going
:15:00. > :15:05.into individual for the World Series and is working towards the World
:15:06. > :15:10.Championships. I have had the most successful World Series results in
:15:11. > :15:15.my individual event. I have been battling a couple of niggles in the
:15:16. > :15:17.build-up so I haven't had necessarily the best preparation but
:15:18. > :15:19.I am feeling good and looking forward to going out there with the
:15:20. > :15:30.rest of the team. No, that is it, unbelievable. Tom
:15:31. > :15:37.Daley in the semifinals, not making it through. What an awful day there
:15:38. > :15:42.for him. How tough was Rio? I think whenever you have a performance that
:15:43. > :15:46.isn't necessarily your best, it is very frustrating, especially when
:15:47. > :15:50.you put in so much hard work every day, but you have to be able to move
:15:51. > :15:53.on. You know, what is done is done and you need to be in the moment and
:15:54. > :15:58.focus on what you can do right now to be the best you tomorrow. Did you
:15:59. > :16:03.go instantly, right, that's four more years of hard work for Tokyo,
:16:04. > :16:08.did you think if things went well it might finish? I didn't really know
:16:09. > :16:19.what would happen after Rio. For me, I always have to listen to my body
:16:20. > :16:22.because sometimes my body is OK, that's enough, we need to wind this
:16:23. > :16:25.town and other days it's good, I feel good and ready to go, could go
:16:26. > :16:28.for another ten years. That's one thing I need to do, listen to my
:16:29. > :16:32.body and train smart so I can go through to 2020 and be in as good
:16:33. > :16:36.shape as I was going into 2016. And physically, how are you doing?
:16:37. > :16:41.Touchwood, physically everything is going according to plan, I had a
:16:42. > :16:46.couple of little niggles through the year, but I could train after
:16:47. > :16:55.procedures on my back and hips but other than that, I am feeling pretty
:16:56. > :16:58.good. Here is Matty Lee, a silver World Championship already to his
:16:59. > :17:07.name after day one of competition with the next synchronised event
:17:08. > :17:08.with Lois Toulson, 3.5 somersault and tuck 3.2 difficulty here, on his
:17:09. > :17:29.own. Ooh... Nearly. Mark there looking
:17:30. > :17:37.after him, and his coaches. A powerful start. Diving really
:17:38. > :17:43.confidently, perhaps a fraction too early, not quite able to get that
:17:44. > :17:49.trademark shape into the water. -- trademark ripple into the water. The
:17:50. > :18:07.Olympic champion, Aisen Chen, third after the halfway point.
:18:08. > :18:19.It is really good. Not outstanding, but it is first class. From the
:18:20. > :18:23.Olympic champion. Look at the shape there, no gap between his chest and
:18:24. > :18:28.his thighs. An inch short of vertical when he goes in, but he
:18:29. > :18:32.somehow keeps the splash down and convinces the judges to give him
:18:33. > :18:36.nine, nine, and eight .5 to count. He managed in the last round, to
:18:37. > :18:45.keep the splashdown he must have magical feet! Lets hope Tom Daley
:18:46. > :18:51.has some magic on him as well... Hang on him as well... Hang onto
:18:52. > :18:56.that lead, a triple somersault in pike, 3.5 degrees of difficulty for
:18:57. > :19:26.Tom Daley. Chasing a third World Championship medal in this event.
:19:27. > :19:43.Yes! Come on! That's all I really need to say. Tom, well done. There
:19:44. > :19:53.was no mistake here from Tom Daley. There is Tonya watching. They have
:19:54. > :19:59.that, waiting for the scores... More than brilliant. A couple of ten -- a
:20:00. > :20:04.couple of tens. Looking at the podium as it for now, after round
:20:05. > :20:13.four, Tom Daley with his lead extended from five points, to six
:20:14. > :20:18.points, 210 points now! Chen Aisen and Tom Daley head to heads, you
:20:19. > :20:24.were bigging this up earlier in the Brown. Forward 4.5 somersault, tut,
:20:25. > :20:30.3.7 degrees of difficulty for the Olympic champion.
:20:31. > :20:37.Tom Daley to come with exactly the same dive...
:20:38. > :20:49.There is the gauntlet! This final is something else. And the crowd are
:20:50. > :20:54.something else as well! We haven't seen this many people in all week
:20:55. > :20:59.long. And quite right too. Look at that. Tom doing his visualisations,
:21:00. > :21:08.he does not care what Chen Aisen is up to, there's nothing he can do
:21:09. > :21:13.about that. 105 points, hello! OK then... Like-for-like, thumbs up
:21:14. > :21:18.from the Chinese coach. Still some corrections there for Chen Aisen,
:21:19. > :21:25.not a perfect ten but now is. Same from Tom Daley. Come on, Tom.
:21:26. > :21:32.Tremendous staff from the Olympic champion, just before him. Forward
:21:33. > :21:40.4.5 somersault in tuck, 3.5 difficulty to hold on to the top
:21:41. > :21:50.spot. It is like-for-like! They are like two giants, just taking slices
:21:51. > :21:54.at each other. This is unbelievable stuff, ladies and gentlemen. I have
:21:55. > :22:03.not seen a head to head like this on the platform ever before. Tom Daley,
:22:04. > :22:10.almost matching Chen, still in the lead, it is tight and will come down
:22:11. > :22:12.to the last guy. -- come down to the last dive. A straight knockout, both
:22:13. > :22:49.dives with 6.3 He hasn't put a putt wrong! He has
:22:50. > :22:55.not put a putt wrong. That is exceptional diving from the Olympic
:22:56. > :23:00.champion -- he has not put a foot wrong. Huge scores, you would not be
:23:01. > :23:06.surprised if the judges go 9.5s on that diet and if they do, this will
:23:07. > :23:15.need to have Tom's dive of his life to get gold. It is mathematically
:23:16. > :23:24.possible... Chen Aisen scores a load of tens, what about that? There is
:23:25. > :23:31.Tom's coach. On the diving board now, Tom Daley. Tom, I saw him, he
:23:32. > :23:37.was reading those scores. There is no way he could have missed that. He
:23:38. > :23:43.must know... Going into the final dive that he cannot make a mistake
:23:44. > :23:47.if he wants to end as world champion. He needs three perfect
:23:48. > :23:55.tens just to be sure. He could get away with a 9.5 here and there. But
:23:56. > :24:00.nothing shy of perfect will do. You hear that, Tom? Back 3.5 somersaults
:24:01. > :24:15.in pike, it must be perfect for the World Championship gold again.
:24:16. > :24:25.It is, it is perfect! That has got to be! That is tens! That has to be
:24:26. > :24:36.gold for Tom Daley. Yes, come on! My word. He has not made a mistake. All
:24:37. > :24:43.day. My goodness. Come on, judges. That is it, this is a deserved World
:24:44. > :24:47.Championship gold for Tom Daley. Unbelievable diving, six out of six.
:24:48. > :24:52.Yes, he has done it! CHEERING
:24:53. > :24:59.Two tens and a 9.5 for Tom Daley. He is world champion once again. Eight
:25:00. > :25:04.years since he last won it. At age 15, Tom Daley is once again the best
:25:05. > :25:13.in the world. The Olympic champion could not topple him. Tom Daley hugs
:25:14. > :25:16.his coach, Jane, there. He has not blinked. He has produced the best
:25:17. > :25:22.diving of his life, just when it mattered. Just five points in it
:25:23. > :25:27.between the Olympic champion Chen Aisen in silver, and Britain's Tom
:25:28. > :25:31.Daley at the top of the podium. It has been such a tough year, getting
:25:32. > :25:36.over that competition in Rio, where I was out of the final, and I could
:25:37. > :25:39.not compete and show my best diving. Today, it was a tough competition,
:25:40. > :25:44.the Olympic champion was not going to let me have it easily but I
:25:45. > :25:49.wanted to fight until the end. You know, I really wanted to prove a
:25:50. > :25:52.point, go and do the best I could. I am delighted with how it turned out,
:25:53. > :25:56.a score, a personal best, I think it would have got the gold last year at
:25:57. > :26:01.the Olympics so I am over the moon. What was going through your mind in
:26:02. > :26:05.that final dive? The noise was incredible, and a great diver just
:26:06. > :26:09.out before you, the pressure was on? Yes, I saw Chen Aisen do his dive
:26:10. > :26:13.and the Chinese divers really cheering and I thought, yeah? You
:26:14. > :26:28.want to cheer loudly for that, do you? I thought, watch this one. I
:26:29. > :26:31.went into, yeah, you do that? I will do better. I went into a weird and
:26:32. > :26:33.competitive mode I've never been in before. It was fun. Leon Taylor,
:26:34. > :26:38.have you calmed down? Almost! Nobody can doubt his skills. This had
:26:39. > :26:42.everything, no matter was it the highest quality diving final I've
:26:43. > :26:45.ever seen in my life, it was dive for dive, the Olympic champion Chen
:26:46. > :26:51.Aisen throwing down a near-perfect dive and Tom having no choice but to
:26:52. > :26:56.do exactly the same. It was a battle of the Titans, slog after slob,
:26:57. > :27:01.right until the last dive, you came over, and you said it needs to be
:27:02. > :27:06.perfect. I said that it had to be a perfect tens, and he delivered.
:27:07. > :27:10.Plenty of Tom Daley fans, the Tom Daley story is one that has taken
:27:11. > :27:14.the whole nation with it. Last year in the Olympics he did not make the
:27:15. > :27:17.final. He has turned it around, what does that say to the rest of the
:27:18. > :27:22.team and young divers coming through? It isn't over until it is
:27:23. > :27:34.over. Tom went through a tough time. He didn't want to walk away from the
:27:35. > :27:37.Olympic Games have not made the final. This year he has come out,
:27:38. > :27:40.all guns blazing, he got married this year, his coach hasn't been
:27:41. > :27:42.there a lot of the time but among his challenges with some injuries,
:27:43. > :27:46.bits and pieces, he kept his eye on the ball, he came out and gave us a
:27:47. > :27:51.real insight into how mentally strong he is. And, what a comeback
:27:52. > :27:54.story! Not a great week for Jack Laugher, one of the limpet champions
:27:55. > :27:59.from Rio, but some strong performances elsewhere and two of
:28:00. > :28:03.medals? -- the Olympic champions. Our best ever Olympic Games, you
:28:04. > :28:07.come down a little, awful preparation by way of injuries,
:28:08. > :28:12.boards, our best coaches leaving the country, arguably. A lot of
:28:13. > :28:17.disruption in British diving. To have a couple of medals, silvers,
:28:18. > :28:22.and some finalists, it is a strong showing. Plenty more action from the
:28:23. > :28:27.pool this week. You will find us on BBC Two, from 5pm, the swimming
:28:28. > :28:31.replaces the diving in Budapest. Rebecca Adlington is with me for the
:28:32. > :28:36.rest of the week and highlights from the final day of The Open golf from
:28:37. > :28:40.Royal Birkdale. That's at 8pm this evening.
:28:41. > :28:45.It was a nail-biting finish but in the end, a great week for British
:28:46. > :28:52.diving here in Budapest. The medals courtesy of Lois Toulson, Matty Lee,
:28:53. > :29:01.Grace Reid and Tom Daley. You can say it was the Daley double that
:29:02. > :29:07.stole the show... COMMENTATOR: Absolutely fantastic, this is
:29:08. > :29:08.utterly brilliant. It is a silver for Siobhan-Marie O'Connor,
