:00:14. > :00:21.What a competition. My word. This horse has been absolutely brilliant.
:00:22. > :00:28.It is such a partnership. Exceptional. What a fabulous
:00:29. > :00:33.combination. Pure class as a rider. That was easy. Oh, he is way over
:00:34. > :00:44.it! Get your programmes. Special
:00:45. > :01:18.programmes! Lovely jump! Good rhythm. Good
:01:19. > :01:41.balance. He's done it! Welcome to the London International
:01:42. > :01:45.Horse Show. It is incredible entertainment and some spectacular
:01:46. > :01:49.sights. We have got some live World Cup show jumping for you. But there
:01:50. > :01:59.is plenty more coming in the next couple of hours. World No 1 Scott
:02:00. > :02:04.Brash will tell us a million euros was worth the controversy it
:02:05. > :02:19.created. And we have highlights of the dressage to music with Carl
:02:20. > :02:30.Hester and Charlotte Dujardin. And a spectacular sight as the Household
:02:31. > :02:35.Cavalry charge into the arena. It has been a fantastic year for Scot
:02:36. > :02:40.Brash. But he omitted not represent Great Britain and helped ensure that
:02:41. > :02:45.crucial Olympic qualification, but he was chasing a one million euros
:02:46. > :02:54.of pot of gold and a place in the history books. I caught up with him
:02:55. > :02:59.earlier in the week. Scott, this year, you have accomplished somebody
:03:00. > :03:04.nobody had done, the Rolex Grand Slam. Where does that rank do you
:03:05. > :03:09.think in your life achievements? It is right up there. The three degrees
:03:10. > :03:14.that every rider wants to win. No one had done it before. It was a
:03:15. > :03:19.massive part of my career to win that and that and the Olympic gold
:03:20. > :03:25.medals, the two best achievements I have ever had. The feelings, the
:03:26. > :03:32.moments in my life I will never forget. You also rewrote cheque
:03:33. > :03:38.books, a one million euro bonus, it is not a sport like football, these
:03:39. > :03:43.pay days don't come often. It is incredible to have that in the
:03:44. > :03:49.sport? Yes, it is a massive bonus for us. I heard the global champions
:03:50. > :03:55.tour is going up to a million bonus and it is great to see the sport
:03:56. > :04:02.going in a positive direction. In terms of decision to go to Spruce
:04:03. > :04:07.Meadows, you came under criticism. Do you think it was just if Ied? I
:04:08. > :04:12.think so. I have no regrets put it that way. I will always do what I
:04:13. > :04:17.think is right for the horse and that is what I done. Hopefully with
:04:18. > :04:28.us doing that, he has one more Championship in him. It would have
:04:29. > :04:35.been unfair to dothat and then the other. I assume you had dicushions
:04:36. > :04:41.-- discussions with the British riders were they supportive? Some
:04:42. > :04:47.were, some weren't. I will always do what is right for my horse. Me and
:04:48. > :04:50.my owners difference cussed it. When you make -- discussed it and you
:04:51. > :04:54.know you're going to get criticism and you have to handle it and do
:04:55. > :05:03.what you think is right. I think it was just was justified. You have
:05:04. > :05:08.been world No 1, do you think that makes you entitled to be part of
:05:09. > :05:13.British team for the Olympics? Not necessarily. Our sport is about your
:05:14. > :05:16.form near the time. It doesn't matter what happens in the past. The
:05:17. > :05:21.four best horses in form should be the four that go to Rio. If I was
:05:22. > :05:25.manager that is what I would do. One thing that is still on your list is
:05:26. > :05:31.that individual gold. How much would you like to win that especially on
:05:32. > :05:36.the horse that has given you so much. Yes, I feel in London we
:05:37. > :05:41.should have been jumping off for a gold or silver individual medal. We
:05:42. > :05:46.finished fifth. But at the expense of one fence down. That fence still
:05:47. > :05:53.haunts me today. Oh, he took the option to keep going Forde ward.
:05:54. > :05:57.Medal chances gone. I would love to put it right for his sake. I would
:05:58. > :06:02.love to try and top his career off by that. This is your last show
:06:03. > :06:06.before Christmas and then you go back to your roots and give your
:06:07. > :06:11.staff time off and you will be the one mucking out? Yes sometimes
:06:12. > :06:16.they're cursing me when they come back. Are you not very good at it? I
:06:17. > :06:21.think I'm good at it, but they all have a very high standard and
:06:22. > :06:25.sometimes my standards are not just up to top notch like theirs. But yes
:06:26. > :06:30.it is nice for them to all go home and I enjoy doing the horses on
:06:31. > :06:36.Christmas Day. I am not sure about his mucking out skills, but his
:06:37. > :06:45.riding is great. I am joined by Tim Stockdale. He has represented
:06:46. > :06:57.Britain on over 50 occasions. We are speaking about Scot Brash, he is a
:06:58. > :07:01.top class rider and he ruffled some feathers with that decision. Whoo do
:07:02. > :07:06.you think. It is unprecedented that he decided to go for the individual
:07:07. > :07:09.title, instead of helping the team and the country qualify for the
:07:10. > :07:13.Olympics. It was a very brave decision in my opinion. I was one of
:07:14. > :07:19.the riders that was against Scott's decision. My feeling is you have to
:07:20. > :07:23.put the team qualification first. I think he was badly advised and one
:07:24. > :07:30.or two people got his ear that were saying to do this. For the amount of
:07:31. > :07:34.money that Scott was jumping for. The prize money was well over a
:07:35. > :07:39.million and a quarter. We are talking a massive pot of money. I
:07:40. > :07:45.think his priorities were steered to that agenda. People will say because
:07:46. > :07:53.he didn't help Britain qualify, he shouldn't go. Is that a sensible
:07:54. > :07:56.approach? Great Britain at an Olympics neats Scott brash. That
:07:57. > :08:04.would be my belief. You have got to move on. Luckily we qualified. The
:08:05. > :08:09.guys did a tremendous job. They secured qualification. Scott went on
:08:10. > :08:16.and won his bonus and his money and took his place in the history books.
:08:17. > :08:24.Let's move on. We want Scott as part of team pulling the rope all in the
:08:25. > :08:33.same direction as a team. We have got to pull together. We want to see
:08:34. > :08:42.the them in the team. We won't see Hello Sanctos at Olympia. But
:08:43. > :08:47.Sunshine was in Olympia's biggest class, the puissance. It means power
:08:48. > :08:53.and nerves of steel. We had a strong line up going in and in fact in the
:08:54. > :08:58.first round all eleven riders went clear. But we had a surprise exit
:08:59. > :09:02.from a previous winner in Guy Williams. He was kicking himself
:09:03. > :09:07.after. He was unhappy with his approach up to the wall. He is
:09:08. > :09:13.taking it steady, but the horse fires over and takes a brick down.
:09:14. > :09:28.He was left on the sidelines. The wall went up to 6 foot 7, or two
:09:29. > :09:34.metres. This is Laura Renwick. Her horse Rollercoaster, a similar
:09:35. > :09:39.situation, taps the brick and she was a spectator. So that meant only
:09:40. > :09:48.six went forward. The wall went up to a huge two metres ten or six foot
:09:49. > :10:01.11. We mentioned Sunshine and there they are at the bottom. Here is what
:10:02. > :10:09.happened in the latter rounds. COMMENTATOR: Meyer for Germany.
:10:10. > :10:22.Germany have been known as the puissance nation over the years.
:10:23. > :10:33.Here is Hilmar to keep the flag flying.
:10:34. > :10:47.Hilmar Meyer, double winner this year. Will he make it three?
:10:48. > :10:59.Brilliantly done. A lot of pace. A lot of confidence. Saw exactly the
:11:00. > :11:04.stride he needed with this huge big German horse, with massive power. He
:11:05. > :11:08.has got better each round. He was stuffy over the first round, but
:11:09. > :11:12.that is getting smoother and more comfortable each time. He looked
:11:13. > :11:17.easier over that height than over the first height. Got to exact think
:11:18. > :11:22.right point and that is the skill these -- got to exactly the right
:11:23. > :11:27.point and that is the skill where they have to be pin point accurate.
:11:28. > :11:30.But if you stand off further, you can't get the height. That is a
:11:31. > :11:48.great piece of riding from Hilmar. He says he is not a puissance rider,
:11:49. > :11:52.but he has placed every year since he shared the victory with Guy
:11:53. > :12:04.Williams in 2011. The horse has got the scope. No doubting that.
:12:05. > :12:16.This is another one that has improved each round. With Pius. Oh,
:12:17. > :12:22.he went for that powerful long stride again. It was a bit too much.
:12:23. > :12:27.You saw a bit of a kick and a snatch on take off. I don't know if he felt
:12:28. > :12:32.he wasn't going to go. He really said, come on, pick up. A bit too
:12:33. > :12:38.much pace and dragged the brick. He ended up too far off. He is so
:12:39. > :12:44.determined. But as he took off, I think he knew he was probably a
:12:45. > :12:46.couple of feet too far away. And that just dragged the back end
:12:47. > :13:11.through top of the fence. Victoria Gulliksen and almost the
:13:12. > :13:17.joker in the pack. They have jumped adequately all the way through. It
:13:18. > :13:19.might be at this height they may do the same again and give us a jump
:13:20. > :13:39.off in the fifth round. This horse gets very strong. She
:13:40. > :13:45.needs to wait. Don't rush it. Yes, you see how strong he has got. A bit
:13:46. > :13:49.sairy after -- scary after the fence. He just ran through the top
:13:50. > :13:54.of the fence. Couldn't get the shoulders up. Couldn't get the
:13:55. > :14:03.height. Dived over to the left. Brave effort from Victoria. But if
:14:04. > :14:10.they don't stay straight, very often the shape of the jump goes and you
:14:11. > :14:17.can see there he threw himself forward and hit it quite hard in the
:14:18. > :14:30.end. So three more to go. Only one clear so far. We can go one more
:14:31. > :14:35.round. No doubt the horse has got the jump to jump this easily. But it
:14:36. > :14:38.is putting the whole package together and that is what it is
:14:39. > :14:47.about. A bit of calming and confidence going on there. It does
:14:48. > :14:52.worry me hen he jumps with the head up. We will see what happens this
:14:53. > :14:57.time. But he has got the power and class to jump the fence. The one
:14:58. > :15:01.clear round is Hilmar Meyer for Germany. Looking to jump, repeat in
:15:02. > :15:16.the fifth. 2 metres 10. Oh so unlucky. The same
:15:17. > :15:21.jump to the right and just in the end that technique was a bit untidy.
:15:22. > :15:28.Just wasn't going to work. He is a brave horse. Watch again. Flings his
:15:29. > :15:31.head up, jumps to the right and couldn't release the back legs. I
:15:32. > :15:36.think they just have got to be able to drop the head more than that. You
:15:37. > :15:42.see the head went up. Back legs come down. That is a great shame. Very
:15:43. > :15:44.brave horse. Brave rider. She has come so close last year. And very
:15:45. > :15:58.close again this year. How are you feeling? I'm happy. He
:15:59. > :16:03.doesn't always help you, he carries his head very high over the jumps?
:16:04. > :16:09.Yes. It seems he doesn't help me but he really wants to go and do it for
:16:10. > :16:16.me so I'm really thankful for it. We are down to two left to jump in
:16:17. > :16:26.round 4 with one at the moment clear in this round. Trevor Breen for
:16:27. > :16:37.Ireland, Joss Velooy for Belgium looking to join the German. They
:16:38. > :16:49.have been falling by the way side here. Trevor Breen.
:16:50. > :17:01.Oh, no. Well, great approach. We'll have another look at that on the
:17:02. > :17:05.slo-mo but it hung in the air for a fraction of a second. Just watch
:17:06. > :17:08.here. Took off well, got the front legs up, but when the horses
:17:09. > :17:12.hesitate in the air, they don't finish the shape of the jump off. We
:17:13. > :17:21.are seeing the horses dragging the bricks out with the back legs. Brave
:17:22. > :17:30.effort again. So we haven't got the clears we expected. One left to go
:17:31. > :17:36.that could put us into round 5. And just at the peak of his performance,
:17:37. > :17:41.his horse goes out. Are you disappointed with that or,
:17:42. > :17:46.did he do you justice? The horse did himself proud, he's on two Derbies
:17:47. > :17:50.before, so I don't think he owes anything to his owners, Richard
:17:51. > :17:53.Brown or his trainer Bernice Cuthbert, so he's done himself proud
:17:54. > :18:01.but obviously I'm gutted because I came here to win and in front of
:18:02. > :18:06.this crowd, Olympia, I would have liked to have won. I'll be going
:18:07. > :18:12.back. It will be interesting if this horse does jump this fence. Will
:18:13. > :18:18.they tie or go for a final round? Jos Velooy, 20 years old with a
:18:19. > :18:20.nine-year-old Sunshine, the horse he wants to ride for Belgium in the
:18:21. > :18:50.World Cup. This man has the talent. Jos Velooy
:18:51. > :18:58.look to go clear and join the possible final round. Got to go
:18:59. > :19:03.clear. The wall. Two metres 10. You see there, there's no time limit,
:19:04. > :19:09.he's slowing everything down. Were sensible move. He's got to wait.
:19:10. > :19:16.He's gone a bit earlier. Oh, but it's worked. Fabulous jump.
:19:17. > :19:21.Unbelievable. What scope from this lovely nine-year-old. He can jump
:19:22. > :19:26.the man. That was fabulous! I think you will find he was at least six to
:19:27. > :19:35.nine, if not a foot higher than that. That was quite extraordinary.
:19:36. > :19:39.We very rarely see a horse jump so cleanly over a 2 metres 10 wall.
:19:40. > :19:43.That's the best jump we have seen all night. Went fractionally
:19:44. > :19:50.earlier, gave his horse a bit more room but that was spot on. That's
:19:51. > :19:52.the classic shape, you very rarely see that. That was a treat, that
:19:53. > :20:03.really was. So, we can go to the fifth there.
:20:04. > :20:15.Those are the two that could jump off in the final round. And they are
:20:16. > :20:22.going again, very good news, 2 metres 15, 7'1" for round 5.
:20:23. > :20:33.We are off into round 5 of the final round, two left, one for Germany and
:20:34. > :20:48.one for Belgium. Germany's Hilmar Meyer, a late entry
:20:49. > :20:54.but he'll give us wonderful value for his appearance here, riding the
:20:55. > :20:57.13-year-old, Continuo, who's got better and better. He's on two and
:20:58. > :21:20.one can begin to see why now. Round 5. Hilmar Meyer, Germany, the
:21:21. > :21:32.first of two to jump off. The wall, that is at 2 meaters 15, 7 Flatt and
:21:33. > :21:37.half an inch. -- 7" and half an inch.
:21:38. > :21:41.Better and better each round. What an effort from Hilmar Meyer, he's
:21:42. > :21:48.thrilled the crowd there. Absolutely spot on. All the way. And such a
:21:49. > :21:57.lovely, attacking, poss piece of riding. Put him on a six pence. That
:21:58. > :22:01.was brill Cumbrian. -- brilliant. 11 out of 10! He says, come on, we are
:22:02. > :22:08.going to jump it. Fantastic piece of riding. Look at the determination.
:22:09. > :22:12.But the horse really gave it to him. My word, it's wonderful, that
:22:13. > :22:18.performance. You are not going to see a rider any more determined to
:22:19. > :22:25.jump a wall than Hilmar Meyer. Elbows went, he got the take off. No
:22:26. > :22:34.wonder he's punching the air, what a feeling that is!
:22:35. > :22:45.The door's open and in comes the 20-year-old, Jos Verlooy. And this
:22:46. > :22:52.horse is gaining in value every moment that he's in the ring.
:22:53. > :23:09.Lovely, big horse, Belgian bred. The owner is the rider's father.
:23:10. > :23:16.Cool as a cucumber. He's got to jump it to force a tie. Or if he has it
:23:17. > :23:28.down, of course, it's a win for Germany.
:23:29. > :23:45.The audience fall quiet. Hilmar Meyer's gone clear. This man now
:23:46. > :23:51.looking to share the 2015 Christmas Show here. Joss Verlooy. Quietly
:23:52. > :24:00.into the corner. Brilliant tactics, he's got to wait. Little change of
:24:01. > :24:04.mind but he's done it! He had to just take a little pull and say,
:24:05. > :24:15.wait for me, got into exactly the right place, and again he made it
:24:16. > :24:19.look so easy. I haven't seen a horse, and many have jumped 7 foot
:24:20. > :24:24.over the years, but I don't think I've ever seen a horse make it look
:24:25. > :24:28.so easy. That was really so simple. Little change of mind, got to the
:24:29. > :24:36.right place, and again, way over the top of it. This horse could go
:24:37. > :24:39.another ten centimetres easily. Extraordinary amount of power.
:24:40. > :24:45.Amazing. Joint winners again. We have seen that a few times over the
:24:46. > :24:48.years. We have. And there's been one of the special nights again, a win
:24:49. > :25:07.for Germany and here we One of the best.
:25:08. > :25:12.Welcome to Olympia, your first time here and what a way to start? My
:25:13. > :25:16.first time here, only been here as a groom 30 years ago with my boss.
:25:17. > :25:22.It's an amazing atmosphere here and I'm really proud of my horse that I
:25:23. > :25:29.could win today. An incredible atmosphere for the Puissance night?
:25:30. > :25:33.I've never rode a Puissance with an atmosphere like this. In the first
:25:34. > :25:37.round he was a little sticky but got better? He was spooky because of the
:25:38. > :25:41.green in front of the wall, he had not seen it before and he was quite
:25:42. > :25:46.trying, in the first round my feeling was not so well. A lovely
:25:47. > :25:54.birthday present to yourself, you've just turned 20, what a way to cap it
:25:55. > :25:58.off? Yes, very exciting. My father jumped the Puissance before and won
:25:59. > :26:02.it. He rides easy and made it easy for me. You calm him down, use the
:26:03. > :26:07.corners and take a walk and he looks like he's a relaxed horse, or is
:26:08. > :26:11.that you? No, he is relaxed and I try to keep him relaxed so he
:26:12. > :26:17.doesn't get too excited and that all worked out good today. I tried to
:26:18. > :26:22.give him a walk and make him calm and he stayed calm every round, so I
:26:23. > :26:27.was happy with that. To present the awards tonight,
:26:28. > :26:33.delighted that Her Royal Highness, the Duchess of Cornwall here to
:26:34. > :26:41.witness what has been a very special evening, she comes nearly every year
:26:42. > :26:48.and loves her visit. Of course, there's just so much equine
:26:49. > :26:52.entertainment that really is there for everyone and Her Royal Highness
:26:53. > :27:00.has thoroughly enjoyed her evening, I have no doubt.
:27:01. > :27:04.So, the moment, that if you want to compete, the moment that will always
:27:05. > :27:12.take you on to cloud 9. The lap of honour. And here at Olympia, so
:27:13. > :27:18.very, very special. Jos Verlooy for Belgium, Hilmar Meyer for Germany,
:27:19. > :27:24.the joint Puissance winners for Olympia 2015. Tim and I have made it
:27:25. > :27:28.into this absolutely beautiful arena, not long now until the World
:27:29. > :27:33.Cup qualifier, the London leg here, and this is a huge course, this is a
:27:34. > :27:37.huge fence! I mean look at the size of it. What can you tell us? How
:27:38. > :27:41.would you approach a fence like this? This is fairly early in the
:27:42. > :27:46.course. We have one and two. Straightaway, this is number three,
:27:47. > :27:48.coming via the entrance, so horses already looking at the entrance
:27:49. > :27:52.maybe thinking that's where they want to go to and straightaway the
:27:53. > :27:57.first big test. The thing is, there is a lot of poles, no great filter.
:27:58. > :28:03.Normally we'd have a wall or brush in here, there's nothing. Also
:28:04. > :28:07.looking straight through it. That will look a daunting prospect. They
:28:08. > :28:11.could back off that and the width is going to catch a lot of horses out.
:28:12. > :28:14.Where is their eye line at this point because they can see through a
:28:15. > :28:18.fence, they can see the next fence and the crowd? That's right. As a
:28:19. > :28:21.general rule they'll be looking straight through this, so the fact
:28:22. > :28:25.there's no fill, they'll nearly be looking at the second aspect of this
:28:26. > :28:30.line before they jump the first, so that can cause problems. To walk the
:28:31. > :28:36.distance, between this triple bar, which is a spread fence, it shows
:28:37. > :28:42.that is a big indication of how the riders can go. Let's take a look at
:28:43. > :28:47.this in terms of wing span. I I'll put my wings out but I can't
:28:48. > :28:50.speak at the same time. This is where they are taking off from. Yes,
:28:51. > :28:57.so they are further. So you are talking in the region of about 15-18
:28:58. > :29:03.feet of spread, the horse is going to leap, now be careful! Tim is now
:29:04. > :29:07.going to stride this. It's a bit hectic. The basic stride pattern is
:29:08. > :29:11.12 feet, just under four metres, the horse's stride length. I'm going to
:29:12. > :29:16.work out a landing which is approximately there and every four
:29:17. > :29:23.of my steps is equal to one horse stride. One, two, three, one, two,
:29:24. > :29:29.three, one, two, three, that's where the horse will take off for this
:29:30. > :29:36.next fence. You can see again it's a very tall, vertical... But it's a
:29:37. > :29:40.different fence isn't it? We don't just have the pulls, we have a
:29:41. > :29:45.plank. Yes, they fall off very easily. I only have to gently touch
:29:46. > :29:50.that and it will slide off. I'm glad you touched it and not me, I don't
:29:51. > :29:54.want to be responsible for this. It shows the carefulness for this.
:29:55. > :30:03.Horses don't jump white fences very well. It's long distance and this is
:30:04. > :30:06.going to fall off a lot. We need to keep out of the way of the riders.
:30:07. > :30:11.This is their homework, the only time they get to see this course and
:30:12. > :30:18.Tim is off again. This is heading into five, Tim?
:30:19. > :30:25.Mar, Three strides. Four strides. Five strides. This is five strides
:30:26. > :30:32.and it is a bit short this five strides. Again the riders have got
:30:33. > :30:37.to wait a bit. The width, when you look at it, it is massive wide. Can
:30:38. > :30:42.I just grab a word. What do you make of course. Good, everything is tight
:30:43. > :30:49.off the turns. It is not the biggest course we have seen, but it will
:30:50. > :30:54.take plenty of jumping. I have a nine-year-old Super Sox who
:30:55. > :30:59.hopefully goes well. Let's have a word. He was trying to get the Irish
:31:00. > :31:03.position turned around for qualification for Rio, what do you
:31:04. > :31:08.think of the chances of that? I think they have to take that chance,
:31:09. > :31:13.but I have to say I think they're on a very sticky wicket with it. I
:31:14. > :31:19.think it is a feel the pain thing and you can't legislate. What
:31:20. > :31:22.happens when a bird flies open or somebody opens a newspaper. They're
:31:23. > :31:32.right to have a go, but I have a feeling they will be doomed. That is
:31:33. > :31:37.a big word. Keiran O'Connor said he will keep preparing as if he was in
:31:38. > :31:41.Rio. Keiran said everything is quick off the corner. You're going into a
:31:42. > :31:49.corner, a wide fence, but as you're coming out tshs first part of triple
:31:50. > :31:54.is two strides off this turn. You have no time to prepare and get your
:31:55. > :32:01.horse organised. We will look at that now. It is like crossing a busy
:32:02. > :32:05.road. It is always a frantic time. You only have a few minutes to learn
:32:06. > :32:10.the course. Let's follow it around. This is incredible. Again so, close
:32:11. > :32:15.to coming off the turn. You have got two strides. And quite a big
:32:16. > :32:26.vertical. I'm going to enter a second. Ben, who are you doing your
:32:27. > :32:31.course walk with. This is Nevara they own Diya. Are you enjoying it.
:32:32. > :32:37.Yes it looks like it is so much bigger than up there. It looks like
:32:38. > :32:43.really big. What do you think of it? It looks a big course, jumps are
:32:44. > :32:47.coming fast, a lot of distances are short. We need some of the more
:32:48. > :32:55.handy horses. We will have a good week. You must be delighted with
:32:56. > :33:01.Diva. Yes she had to work hard on his own. She had gone form here last
:33:02. > :33:09.year. It was her first win. Hopefully we can can repeat that.
:33:10. > :33:13.Thank you. Enjoy. You're back. We were saying about the combination.
:33:14. > :33:18.This is unusual, there is only one stride between. If the horse is
:33:19. > :33:25.unbalanced, he will come quickly on them. Few get one part wrong, the
:33:26. > :33:29.next part is wrong. It is a bit long. This is where the horse will
:33:30. > :33:34.take off from. That back rail is a long way away. This is critical they
:33:35. > :33:44.get their pace right and the balance and power in the centre. I think
:33:45. > :33:49.that face said it all. It is not like you have two parts. You have
:33:50. > :33:55.the treble just to... Going back again, one stries in here. And --
:33:56. > :34:00.one stride in here and the horse has to off his back end, use his balance
:34:01. > :34:06.and technique to jump this fence in the correct way. Too much power and
:34:07. > :34:12.you will hit it. No 7 is on a blind turn. The horses are get nothing
:34:13. > :34:15.respite and they will come out like bullets. They will need
:34:16. > :34:20.concentration all the way through. We have been looking at the fences
:34:21. > :34:25.in the middle. Up with thing I always think, look to see how close
:34:26. > :34:33.these fences are right to the wall. I will try not to get in anyone's
:34:34. > :34:38.way. But it is incredible. There is something very special. The crowd is
:34:39. > :34:45.here. When you're jumping, you're coming and you can almost smell the
:34:46. > :34:48.perfume on the ladies, or literally the... This a what you have been
:34:49. > :34:55.doing all these years? It is strange. It is unlike any arena I
:34:56. > :34:59.have jumped in. Normally they're away back. Here they're up close and
:35:00. > :35:06.personal. We have been walking around the first round. But not
:35:07. > :35:10.usual to necessarily all levels of competition, you might get the
:35:11. > :35:13.chance to walk a jump off. They don't get the chance to walk a jump
:35:14. > :35:22.off. How many will be looking at that. Most of them. It is kritsical.
:35:23. > :35:26.He will -- critical. He will be stripping the arena bare and they
:35:27. > :35:30.won't get a chance. If they're later on in the competition, they're not
:35:31. > :35:34.panicking. If you're in the first six, this is quite a frantic time.
:35:35. > :35:38.Because you're learning the first round and looking at the jump off
:35:39. > :35:44.course and you have got go out and get prepared. It is quite a frantic
:35:45. > :35:48.time for all this information to be coming in and trying to lodge in the
:35:49. > :35:54.brainbox. What position would you Reich to be starting -- like to be
:35:55. > :35:59.starting if you were riding in this class. The latter third of draw is
:36:00. > :36:03.always the best. You get the play of the course, what is causing the
:36:04. > :36:08.trouble and there is a distance problem down the last line that is
:36:09. > :36:13.so complicated and the early riders won't know what the best distance,
:36:14. > :36:18.whether to go on the five and long one or a short and waiting one. Can
:36:19. > :36:25.we make it to the line in one minute? Very quickly. I will explain
:36:26. > :36:32.the situation. Let's break into a run! Just as we talking I will tell
:36:33. > :36:37.you. You have got to decide whether to go five strides. And be on the
:36:38. > :36:44.inside line to jump this big one. But you're going to be a long way
:36:45. > :36:53.away. Or go deeper and make it six. But look how wide the fence is. It
:36:54. > :37:03.must be four feet wide? It is. That is a very wide fence. I'm not a
:37:04. > :37:11.midget. Tim, I think we have done an excellent job. Their sprinkling
:37:12. > :37:16.snow. It is not just show jumping here. We have had two great nights
:37:17. > :37:24.of dressage and it was in front of a packed crowd. Last year everybody
:37:25. > :37:43.came to see Charlotte Dujardin and Aleg row. This year she was riding a
:37:44. > :37:57.new horse. And there is a new free style style. British dressage has
:37:58. > :38:03.gone from strength to strength. Now the moment this full house has been
:38:04. > :38:16.waiting for. She has taken Britain to the top of the world.
:38:17. > :38:23.Beautifully balanced turn. It all looks so easy and this a exactly how
:38:24. > :38:34.it should look. Confident performance.
:38:35. > :38:44.The free style last Wednesday. Beautiful changes more than make up
:38:45. > :39:02.for that error in the corner. Watch this.
:39:03. > :39:16.She is really getting every ounce out of this horse. Part of Olympic
:39:17. > :39:27.gold medal team in London. A bit of a wobble there. : There we are. This
:39:28. > :39:32.girl holds the world records at free style, Grand Prix and Grand Prix
:39:33. > :39:36.special. Some in this very arena. Has she done enough to win her third
:39:37. > :39:47.free style to music here in the grand hall? The crowd, they really
:39:48. > :39:57.love her and she has certainly pulled all the stops out. The
:39:58. > :40:03.technical will put her in the lead. Artistic is where she often scores
:40:04. > :40:12.great marks. It is a new leading score for Great Britain. On 82.550.
:40:13. > :40:16.A strong performance from Charlotte and a horse she has only competed a
:40:17. > :40:23.handful of times and not for 18 months. Carl Hester knew he and his
:40:24. > :40:29.huge horse would have to be at their best. Looking at the strength of the
:40:30. > :40:37.horse. And the horse has matured in this last year. Could it get him
:40:38. > :40:49.anywhere near that score of Charlotte's, 82.550? He an important
:40:50. > :40:55.part of that silver medal in Achen, together with the silver in the
:40:56. > :41:02.worlds. He has already done a pirouette and he is going to go into
:41:03. > :41:10.canter. A high degree of difficulty. He has not got down the first centre
:41:11. > :41:15.line yet. He is upping his game. Getting these free styles into that
:41:16. > :41:25.degree of difficulty. So he can really be competitive with the very
:41:26. > :41:31.best in the free style. And the very best go over 90% when it is their
:41:32. > :41:33.day and there are these days a lot in the 80s. But this man know what
:41:34. > :41:51.is it takes. Music compiled by Tom Hunt. I can't
:41:52. > :42:05.believe how much this horse has matured. That impressive start
:42:06. > :42:17.continued. Carl came up with this technical regime to try and give him
:42:18. > :42:30.the edge over Charlotte on Utopia. This is the final line. Has that
:42:31. > :42:36.floor plan been enough? Carl is thrilled. This man has done more
:42:37. > :42:47.than anyone can believe for British dressage and he deserves a big one.
:42:48. > :42:55.He really does. Here is the moment for Carl Hester. Was that floor plan
:42:56. > :43:02.good enough it looks as if it is 83.75. He has never won this Olympia
:43:03. > :43:09.round and that will mean so much to him. What a night for British
:43:10. > :43:19.dressage. Carl Hester government his first win at Olympia. He has been
:43:20. > :43:32.hearing the national anthem for Charlotte Dujardin, but this time it
:43:33. > :43:37.was for him. It feels fantastic. It feels fantastic, because I'm sot
:43:38. > :43:41.excited about this horse. It might not be a made I have won, but it is
:43:42. > :43:48.a huge class. I took the rule book and read it, ands I was like this
:43:49. > :43:51.said it is difficult and I will put everything into except the kitchen
:43:52. > :43:57.sink and made it as difficult as I could. I had to do that, because
:43:58. > :44:01.this horse isn't the physical specimen of the others, but he has
:44:02. > :44:06.the brain of the gold medallist. I was very happy. He has not competed
:44:07. > :44:10.for nearly two years and to come here, we won the Grand Prix
:44:11. > :44:15.yesterday and he felt fresh and alive yesterday. He was a bit tired
:44:16. > :44:24.today. A few blips. But I was really happy. He tried really hard. In some
:44:25. > :44:29.ways is there less pressure when your not riding Valegro? Yes I can
:44:30. > :44:32.just have fun. I have so much fun with Valegro, but I have that
:44:33. > :44:37.pressure to be at the top all of the time. So yeah it is really nice to
:44:38. > :44:42.have that change. The horse is turning into something I never
:44:43. > :44:46.thought he was. And with Rio only what is it now eight months away,
:44:47. > :44:51.that is exciting that I'm getting that score now. That was my first
:44:52. > :44:54.attempt at it. It is a difficult programme. You can't wait. You love
:44:55. > :45:02.your champagne. I thought we would do a toast. Cheers. That is
:45:03. > :45:08.gorgeous. The merry couple! And great teamwork. Charlotte, where do
:45:09. > :45:14.you think by the time you get to Rio that you and Nip Tuck will be? I
:45:15. > :45:19.will be standing next to Charlotte I'm hoping on a podium. Valegro is a
:45:20. > :45:25.one in a million, so I don't know whether we will achieve that. But we
:45:26. > :45:32.have to think about a team medal and with Valegro and Nip Nuk and Fiona's
:45:33. > :45:36.horse and the talent that is coming along at senior level, I don't see
:45:37. > :45:40.why we can't repeat what happened in London and what sports can you have
:45:41. > :45:46.a glass of champagne when you finish. Most poor sports people have
:45:47. > :45:56.to go to bed with a sandwich and a glass of kwaert! Water! !
:45:57. > :46:04.Tim, a word on Charlotte Dujardin, she's a rider you know. A lot of
:46:05. > :46:10.people think of her as dressage mostly, but she spent time at your
:46:11. > :46:15.yard? That's right. She had a few lessons with us at 15-year-old. We
:46:16. > :46:20.could see she was always going to be a good rider. We are absolutely
:46:21. > :46:26.thrilled she's turned into a great rider. How different are the skills
:46:27. > :46:33.from dressage to a rider? You have to work on suppleness and obedience,
:46:34. > :46:38.dressage and show jumping are close bed fellows, it's still about horse
:46:39. > :46:44.and rider working together. Another young lady making the headlines is
:46:45. > :46:51.19-year-old Jessica Mendosa and what a year she's had.
:46:52. > :46:55.Youngest rider to represent Britain, British show jumping young rider,
:46:56. > :46:59.it's not been a bad year? ! No, it's a dream come true actually. In terms
:47:00. > :47:04.of importance, what is your highlight? I think although my
:47:05. > :47:10.performance didn't go the best, the show was the best for me because it
:47:11. > :47:14.was a real learning experience and put me on the map to get the results
:47:15. > :47:21.that I had at the beginning of the year. I didn't think I would be on
:47:22. > :47:24.the nation's cup. I couldn't ask for more. What's changed from the
:47:25. > :47:28.beginning of the year to where you are now? I'm not sure, a partnership
:47:29. > :47:32.maybe with my horse, we've stepped up to the five star level and can do
:47:33. > :47:35.it nearly every week. More consistent at that height I think.
:47:36. > :47:38.It must be nice doing it with that horse because you two have been a
:47:39. > :47:44.partnership for such a long time, haven't you? It gives us the extra
:47:45. > :47:51.bit of a bond so we've done it from the beginning, we jumped 1 metre 30
:47:52. > :47:55.together, now it's 1 metre 60. What does it mean to be back in the UK
:47:56. > :47:59.with Spirit, how big a deal is it? It's a great deal. I jumped the
:48:00. > :48:03.Young Riders on here a few years ago and to come back and now do the
:48:04. > :48:10.Seniors and to have a chance at doing well in the World Cup, it's
:48:11. > :48:13.great. You and your family have made a big sacrifice, you are obviously
:48:14. > :48:17.very proud and British, but you decided to move to Europe to further
:48:18. > :48:20.your career? Yes, it was a family decision and because of the
:48:21. > :48:27.travelling from England to Holland is eight hours every time and it's
:48:28. > :48:30.also hard to get the younger horses out because you have to prioritise
:48:31. > :48:33.taking the good horses to the international shows so now I can go
:48:34. > :48:37.every weekend with different horses and a lot less travelling. In terms
:48:38. > :48:42.of riders you looked up to when you were younger, who were those riders?
:48:43. > :48:46.I think I would say the Whittaker family because, yes, they were all
:48:47. > :48:53.out there, all of them were winning and now to compete alongside them
:48:54. > :48:56.it's really nice. Lovely to see new partners and young riders coming
:48:57. > :49:00.through and there seems to be huge strength and depth? We have older
:49:01. > :49:05.and younger ones and we have so much talent in England and people need to
:49:06. > :49:08.find the right horses. We have really great combinations coming
:49:09. > :49:12.through. What about your chances for Rio, where do you think they are?
:49:13. > :49:15.Hopeful. If Spirit jumps well the rest of the year, I could have a
:49:16. > :49:18.chance. I would almost have to do more than the other team members
:49:19. > :49:22.because they have so much more experience and more probably to be
:49:23. > :49:25.considered. So in order for me to get on the team, I need to do my
:49:26. > :49:30.best. She is doing her best because on
:49:31. > :49:36.Friday night she showcased the talents in spectacular style. Just
:49:37. > :49:41.look at this! I was told of this jumpoff round she did. They said,
:49:42. > :49:45.unless you saw how fast she went, you wouldn't believe it. The term
:49:46. > :49:49.rising star is overly used in my opinion but I think this young
:49:50. > :49:53.lady's set for big things. Every time she steps up a level, she's not
:49:54. > :49:57.daunted by it. Look how aggressive she is, she's really going for the
:49:58. > :50:01.win there, everything about the way she's riding, confidence, and a real
:50:02. > :50:05.panache, look at that! Interesting because that time was saved between
:50:06. > :50:08.one and two, at that point no-one chose to go that route, she wanted
:50:09. > :50:12.to. After that, everybody else followed her but she was still
:50:13. > :50:17.quickest. How good a rider do you think she is? Again just what you
:50:18. > :50:20.said there, nobody had done that turn, she backed herself, went
:50:21. > :50:22.really positive. A lot of people talk about the mental toughness
:50:23. > :50:27.you've got to have for this sport. This young lady had it in spades
:50:28. > :50:31.because she's not frightened by the competition and she's literally
:50:32. > :50:35.going for the win so failure is not an option as far as she's concerned.
:50:36. > :50:42.She wants to win. That's half the battle. The horses are warming up
:50:43. > :50:47.for the World Cup qualifiers. Jessica Mendoza is in that with
:50:48. > :50:53.Spirit. Who are you looking out for, 36 starters? A A lot of people could
:50:54. > :51:01.win it. There are some really good pairings today. My eye is drawn
:51:02. > :51:06.towards Torniche and Johnson. She goes well at Olympia, so she'll try
:51:07. > :51:12.to make a counting round. That is a horse that only has one eye? Yes.
:51:13. > :51:18.Which you think would be tricky? Massive trust. This is the highlight
:51:19. > :51:22.of her winter season, for sure. Robert Whittaker's gone well on
:51:23. > :51:26.catwalk, dad John I think is favourite with the bookies, the
:51:27. > :51:39.first course suits him, it really does. A man who is riding on top of
:51:40. > :51:45.his job. Has a strong challenge from one or the two of the Germans. I
:51:46. > :51:48.just look at it and when he walked the course, he looked like a man
:51:49. > :51:53.really in the zone. What is it about the horse that you love so much?
:51:54. > :51:58.He's a class animal. His record says he's capable of doing it. That was
:51:59. > :52:02.an uncharacteristic mistake he made there. He's not on top form. After
:52:03. > :52:08.today he'll be firing on all cylinders. We mentioned Jos Verlooy,
:52:09. > :52:12.in the Puissance with Sunshine, how odd is that to have a Puissance then
:52:13. > :52:15.turn up for a World Cup? 20 years ago that was nearly everybody's
:52:16. > :52:18.route to the Grand Prix training, jumping over a big wall, get the
:52:19. > :52:21.horse on the back foot, using himself, then he'd be ready for the
:52:22. > :52:26.Grand Prix. It's changed a lot. To get a horse that's so brave here for
:52:27. > :52:33.a Puissance and so careful for these type of modern day courses is a very
:52:34. > :52:36.rare thing. He said he did it in Washington just because there
:52:37. > :52:41.weren't so many classes for the horse, worked very well, the horse
:52:42. > :52:50.jumped fantastic in the World Cup. He's doing it again trying to
:52:51. > :52:53.replicate the training. Tim had a fun course walkout but here is the
:52:54. > :52:59.virtual tour. Just having a look at this huge
:53:00. > :53:03.course. Quickly out of the corner over here, then a left handed run to
:53:04. > :53:07.a vertical which is an interesting part of the course. A lot of space
:53:08. > :53:19.all the way past the entrance back to the triple bar at 3. Five strides
:53:20. > :53:25.down to the corner. Very difficult turn here. This comes quickly,
:53:26. > :53:32.combination. A vertical coming in and out. Big Ox for the middle, both
:53:33. > :53:39.on one strides and left-handed then running, six strides up to number 7.
:53:40. > :53:45.Big Oxer across the middle. So tight off the corner, interesting part of
:53:46. > :53:51.the course. That is going to cause a few problems. Then across to a very
:53:52. > :53:57.delicate style on six strides. Another vertical. This is a very
:53:58. > :54:01.careful koushes and we've got the huge fence coming up now that Tim
:54:02. > :54:08.talked about earlier. This one on five or six strides. 170-plus wide
:54:09. > :54:17.then four strides to a light vertical towards the entrance.
:54:18. > :54:25.Quite a big field, 36 in a World Cup is pretty big. Lots of stars there
:54:26. > :54:35.on that page. O'Connor one of the favourites. Been in good form and
:54:36. > :54:40.has a God record on this arena. On page two, Jos Verlooy outstanding
:54:41. > :54:49.for a 20-year-old. Delestre for France is one of the favourites for
:54:50. > :54:58.me. Brash is there. Ehning, really improving. And of course the
:54:59. > :55:01.European champion of 2009. On that page alone, Deusser, Eckermann,
:55:02. > :55:07.Allen, all three good enough to win this. It's quite open as far as this
:55:08. > :55:12.London round of the World Cup is concerned. The Western European
:55:13. > :55:19.League is one of 16 leagues around the world that lead to the final in
:55:20. > :55:24.Gothenburg in March. The venue at Gothenburg one of the most famous
:55:25. > :55:30.ones. The finals have been held there 14 times that this
:55:31. > :55:34.competition's been run. It has made show jumping the most universal
:55:35. > :55:37.sport of the world as far as horses are concerned without a doubt and
:55:38. > :55:43.it's a very, very big are concerned without a doubt and
:55:44. > :55:49.actually then goes from Gothenburg out to the outdoor season and leads
:55:50. > :56:01.on of course to the Rio Olympics. Quite an important road to the big
:56:02. > :56:06.one this year. We start with France and it is Olivier Robert who retired
:56:07. > :56:11.from show jumping for two or three years but has come back, has had
:56:12. > :56:18.some quite good form, had a good second at a Grand Prix in Salzburg.
:56:19. > :56:22.His horse quennelle is an 11-year-old. His best form was on
:56:23. > :56:26.the Moroccan tour. They have a World Cup tour there, he finished third in
:56:27. > :56:32.the World Cup there. One has to say it's not as competitive as this
:56:33. > :56:35.Western European League, that is the most competitive league in the world
:56:36. > :56:45.Andy isn't it? This is certainly in the big time. This is a difficult
:56:46. > :56:52.mare to ride in such a small arena. The bridle is controlling her.
:56:53. > :56:59.Three strides and the five strides working very nicely there. There's
:57:00. > :57:06.the quick turn. Interesting off the corner straight into the
:57:07. > :57:10.combination. Tremendous scope there. Looking good so far. This is the
:57:11. > :57:16.next really difficult part of the course. So tight off the corner,
:57:17. > :57:24.right by the edge of the arena. Nicely done. Now, just to remind
:57:25. > :57:26.you, the time allowed, 69 seconds. Always interesting the first one to
:57:27. > :57:43.go, he's kept up a very big canter. Still clear and well inside the
:57:44. > :57:45.time. APPLAUSE
:57:46. > :57:50.A live aye wouldn't be rasheded as one of the favourites and he's
:57:51. > :57:55.jumped one or two decent rounds this week and that certainly looks a very
:57:56. > :58:00.good start for the French man -- Olivier. Fabulous round all the way,
:58:01. > :58:04.kept up a good pace. Might be a bit deceiving for other riders who
:58:05. > :58:08.watched that thinking the time is going to be quite easy because this
:58:09. > :58:14.mare does really cover the ground. Huge amount of scope. Stayed careful
:58:15. > :58:21.all the way. Looks to me as though we could get a few clear rounds
:58:22. > :58:29.here. The course designer from Portugal spent a lot of time with
:58:30. > :58:41.Bob Ellis and the team under Bob in London 2012.
:58:42. > :58:48.We could have a very special afternoon's sport here. Guy
:58:49. > :58:53.Williams, one of Britain's torch riders for many years, riding the
:58:54. > :59:00.horse owned by Guy, Titus, the horse that he won a team bronze on in the
:59:01. > :59:07.Europeans in 2011 in Madrid. Then sold on and came back to Guy and
:59:08. > :59:12.he's winning some decent classes, went out in Spruce Meadows and is
:59:13. > :59:19.also a good Grand Prix winner in France, on Titus.
:59:20. > :59:27.Titus one of those incredibly powerful horses but he does get
:59:28. > :59:29.quite strong. Guy doing a great job of keeping him steady and balanced
:59:30. > :59:38.so far. Maybe we are going to get some clear
:59:39. > :59:46.rounds today. This isn't the biggest course, it's technical, the fences
:59:47. > :59:54.come quickly, the second rider, two fences to go. And are we going to
:59:55. > :00:01.get another clear? Just buffers the last but it stays. He too inside the
:00:02. > :00:10.time. We've seen the time isn't going to be a big influence. Titus
:00:11. > :00:15.came slightly on an angle into the double at 8 but stayed really
:00:16. > :00:23.careful all the way, big stretch over the second last. This isn't the
:00:24. > :00:27.biggest course, two clears already. Best it's been very much the feature
:00:28. > :00:31.of the design this week, a lot of clear rounds to start with. Funnily
:00:32. > :00:37.enough as the competition's gone on, the clear rounds have tended to thin
:00:38. > :00:42.out. Now it's Sweden's very experienced rider who started off
:00:43. > :00:48.very many years ago based with Mark Todd, but he's now very much part of
:00:49. > :00:56.the Swedish team, he was in the nations cup winning team,
:00:57. > :01:01.Fredricson, Peder, he was in the team that finished second in
:01:02. > :01:05.Rotterdam. Solid competitor, good win indoors in Stockholme some six
:01:06. > :01:14.weeks ago and has had a win here this week.
:01:15. > :01:35.That line, the three and the five, riding extremely level.
:01:36. > :01:39.So Frederickson. Are we going to get another clear? The course jumping
:01:40. > :02:01.extremely well at the moment. Six strides nice and comfortable.
:02:02. > :02:10.Just the last and another one. It is three clear round out of Klee.
:02:11. > :02:16.Three. One for Sweden. Three horses round, three clear. Guy, how is it
:02:17. > :02:21.riding? It has rode all right. It is not the biggest in the world, but it
:02:22. > :02:26.is tight and everything comes quick. So it was fine for me. How do you
:02:27. > :02:32.think your horse goes in an arena like this in a jump off. My horses
:02:33. > :02:44.are all better in jump offs. We will try our best. We will see. Thanks.
:02:45. > :02:58.Back inside now Nicola Philippaerts, very dedicated twins. Son of Ludo,
:02:59. > :03:04.who was a great winner here on. Nicola has had a very good series on
:03:05. > :03:11.the circuit, which counts in the western European in the United
:03:12. > :03:16.States. Had two very good placings in third place on that American
:03:17. > :03:20.circuit. Oh. Sorry to stop you. He came off the corn we are a forward
:03:21. > :03:25.stride and had a completely wrong distance. Jumped straight into the
:03:26. > :03:33.middle of the triple bar. That was a nasty bar. Thanky with the modern --
:03:34. > :03:37.thankfully with the modern jumps they disintegrated. The first rider
:03:38. > :03:47.to fault. But in a very spectacular one. Certainly worth having another
:03:48. > :03:52.look at that. Settled things down. He was trying to keep a strong
:03:53. > :03:58.rhythm around the corner and you rarely see riders at this level make
:03:59. > :04:06.such a big mistake. He really was half a length off. Around very
:04:07. > :04:15.quickly. But three fences down. Quite costly. Washington and Las
:04:16. > :04:20.Vegas he had some good performances. But he finishes on 12. You see he
:04:21. > :04:27.took off and he didn't know whether to put another stride in or not. The
:04:28. > :04:35.horse kind of shut his eye and jumped straight into the middle of
:04:36. > :04:44.the fence. But he is our first rider to have any faults. That is a round
:04:45. > :04:50.he probably wants to forget. In comes Britain's William Whittaker.
:04:51. > :04:54.The stable jockey for Michael Whittaker and had some good horses
:04:55. > :05:03.to ride over the years. Now riding from his own yard. And he is riding
:05:04. > :05:11.well. But he is realising to ride for yourself, finding horses and
:05:12. > :05:18.things isn't easy Pisi. But he had a good win last night. He is in form.
:05:19. > :05:20.But he has not jumped in this sort of company very often in the last
:05:21. > :05:32.two or three months. Let's just study William's riding.
:05:33. > :05:39.If you look at his technically, his lower leg position, his upper body
:05:40. > :05:52.balance and the way he uses his aids is copy book. As Mike was saying, he
:05:53. > :05:57.won a brilliant jump off class lapt. -- last night. If anyone wants to
:05:58. > :06:02.really back a rider and send a rider to the top of the world rankings in
:06:03. > :06:07.the way that Scott Brash got the backing a few years ago, this is the
:06:08. > :06:21.man with the quality. I would agree with that. Just coming down to this
:06:22. > :06:36.last line. Still clear. Oh! What a shame! Down goes the last. No
:06:37. > :06:41.problem with the time. I gave him the big build up. He didn't quite
:06:42. > :06:46.produce the clear round. But he is still worth watching. He has got
:06:47. > :06:50.tremendous feeling for his horse and Fandango can get strong at the end
:06:51. > :06:55.of the course and four strides there, he quickened. So
:06:56. > :07:01.unfortunately William just ran a bit close to the last fence. William's
:07:02. > :07:06.wife just talking to him as they walk out. Herself a very successful
:07:07. > :07:13.show jumper. They have a lovely young family. Back in the ring, a
:07:14. > :07:21.man who lives in southern Germany, rode for Germany for a number of
:07:22. > :07:25.years. But last year, 2014, he switched to Austria and he has had
:07:26. > :07:28.some good performances for Germany. He will be a bonus for the
:07:29. > :07:47.Austrians. Max Kuhner riding Cornet Kalua. He
:07:48. > :07:51.was ninth at Stuttgart. So far in Europe, there have been six rounds.
:07:52. > :08:01.This is the seventh. It continues after Christmas. Leading to that
:08:02. > :08:09.final in Gothenberg in March. As you were saying about the breeding. Very
:08:10. > :08:16.unusual. Nearly every one of the horses seems to be grey, but this is
:08:17. > :08:20.a distinctive dark brown. But a dark jumper. A lot of scope. Very
:08:21. > :08:24.difficult to control these big horses around such a tight arena. He
:08:25. > :08:36.is getting a bit strong towards the end here. Another one with the one
:08:37. > :08:46.down. It is amazing how the formula has been clear rounds to start with
:08:47. > :08:51.and in fact it didn't fall. It was clear for Max Kuhner. You see the
:08:52. > :08:58.power down the combination. Big jumper. Just got a bit strong at the
:08:59. > :09:03.end. But well ridden. Four strides towards home with the water tray
:09:04. > :09:13.beneath that last vertical. The horses just getting a bit tense. The
:09:14. > :09:18.Olympic bronze medallist. Cian O'Connor. He wasn't due to qualify
:09:19. > :09:24.for the individual many London. One horse dropped out so, he got in and
:09:25. > :09:29.climbed the rankings to win the bronze. He is a really strong
:09:30. > :09:37.competitor. Riding this nine-year-old Super Sox. His top
:09:38. > :09:43.horse opt way to floor Da -- his top horse opt way to Florida. Cian's
:09:44. > :09:49.very clever at finding new horses. This is a typical Cian O'Connor
:09:50. > :09:53.horse. A bouncy character. But a massive leap off the floor. He is
:09:54. > :10:00.only nine and you can see him having to work quite hard to make it
:10:01. > :10:11.happen. This is a horse that has impressed a lot of people with
:10:12. > :10:17.tremendous amount of ability. We are getting the clear round and we are
:10:18. > :10:25.not used to seeing that. We normally have fewer and bigger, wider oxers.
:10:26. > :10:32.A big stretch there. Lucky at the last. So he joins the clear rounds.
:10:33. > :10:41.That is five different countries through now, Ireland included. Such
:10:42. > :10:45.bad luck on the last one. He is a horse that does get stronger to the
:10:46. > :10:50.end of the course. Yes especially in a ring like this. It is a ring he
:10:51. > :10:54.always struggles with, the with the crowd so close to the ring and a lot
:10:55. > :10:59.of atmosphere. He has improved from last year. Last year he was really
:11:00. > :11:07.spooky. He jumped a great round. Just unfortunate with the last. You
:11:08. > :11:10.had a great win last night. Yes that was great for everyone. Up to now
:11:11. > :11:12.the horses have been going well. So that bit of luck last night helped
:11:13. > :11:30.the job along. Thanks. Now Geir Gulliksen, a man known to
:11:31. > :11:35.even as Jimmy! And he has a daughter making a name for herself. Went well
:11:36. > :11:43.in the puissance to finish equal third. You might note that Jimmy
:11:44. > :11:49.wearing a pullover. He has had a bit of blood pressure problems. So he
:11:50. > :11:54.has been allowed to wear this special clothing. You normally have
:11:55. > :11:58.to wear a jacket. But Jimmy being given permission to wear that. He
:11:59. > :12:06.was in trouble down that line. I thought he was going to pull up. He
:12:07. > :12:13.sat back and dropped his reins. Just struggling a bit.
:12:14. > :12:20.With the number of clear rounds we have, any riders with faults, you
:12:21. > :12:23.may see some of them decide to retire if they have no chance of
:12:24. > :12:29.getting any prize money. Jimmy battling on. He has just the one
:12:30. > :12:35.down. Jimmy doesn't retire easily. He wants to get through. He is a
:12:36. > :12:40.real competitor. He has some nice young horses. He is meaning to go on
:12:41. > :12:47.in the sport for a few years yet. He wouldn't be one of the youngest of
:12:48. > :12:59.the circuit. He goes home on eight, two fences down, eight faults. Have
:13:00. > :13:05.another look here. This is the early part of the course. Landed on the
:13:06. > :13:10.back rail and it unsettled. He slipped his reins and did well to
:13:11. > :13:25.recover and get down the line. That very wide oxer. That oxer is 175
:13:26. > :13:34.wide. It is a very wide fence. Now the turn of France's Filipe Leonie.
:13:35. > :13:45.He rides for a very strong stable in Belgium. This man part of that team.
:13:46. > :13:52.He had time away from show jumping, four years actually, came back two
:13:53. > :13:59.years ago. And getting the job there would see him in the big time. He
:14:00. > :14:10.went out on that Moroccan tour and had some good placings down there.
:14:11. > :14:17.We had that mass of clear rounds at the start. And just as you would
:14:18. > :14:22.expect, this course is no walk in the park. And we are just seeing one
:14:23. > :14:27.or two riders having a few fences now. Perhaps bringing it back into
:14:28. > :14:55.perspective. Long way off the oxer but he cleared
:14:56. > :15:01.that one. Had to fight to get the four strides. He got that rattle on
:15:02. > :15:03.it but it stayed up. They're quite lucky there. But it is two down, a
:15:04. > :15:18.total of eight for the Frenchman. The plank has ridden quite well.
:15:19. > :15:23.That was unlucky, just a light touch with the back legs. Qlassic course
:15:24. > :15:38.builder's trick. The sport of show jumping has got
:15:39. > :15:45.some very exciting young men and women and this is one of them. He is
:15:46. > :15:55.20. Just last week. Jos Verlooy, son of the very big dealer, who has
:15:56. > :15:58.dealt some wonderful, big time transactions and Jos made his
:15:59. > :16:03.appearance as a 17-year-old for Belgium. Now he's key part of
:16:04. > :16:07.Belgian team who have had their best season for many years. They won the
:16:08. > :16:27.nations cup in Barcelona. He stated it was his warm-up, like
:16:28. > :16:33.he did in Washington, he got World Cup points there. A very big jumping
:16:34. > :16:44.horse this, Sunshine. Very powerful horse. You see there, Jos had to
:16:45. > :16:48.work extremely hard to shorten up. Sunshine gets quite strong and it's
:16:49. > :16:54.all getting a bit untidy out the corner. Just shows, you can have all
:16:55. > :16:58.the power in the world, but if you don't have the control and can't
:16:59. > :16:59.keep the balance off the way around the course, things really start to
:17:00. > :17:09.unravel. Just over half way through the
:17:10. > :17:14.Western European League where you can take the best six results, all
:17:15. > :17:17.his points were actually set up on the North American circuit and he's
:17:18. > :17:25.currently lying in fifth place but he's not going to add any here. He
:17:26. > :17:29.ends up with four down on 16 faults. Certainly Sunshine would Son be much
:17:30. > :17:35.more suited to a big arena. It's so difficult to control a horse as big
:17:36. > :17:41.and powerful as this. Then he started getting his head and one
:17:42. > :17:43.fence after another coming down. Crossing his jaw and pulling at the
:17:44. > :18:16.last fence. Currently, it's Spain that have
:18:17. > :18:22.qualified. This man is very much part of that. He's had four placings
:18:23. > :18:33.on the Quinn circuit so far, started in Oslo, then went to Helsinki. Had
:18:34. > :18:38.some good results. Spain have had a great record but spent probably 20
:18:39. > :18:47.years in the doldrums and are coming back. He feel a stillful team of
:18:48. > :18:53.which this man is one. The son of Lewis, he's technically absolutely
:18:54. > :18:59.brilliant to watch -- skilful. A lot of flat work to get his horse under
:19:00. > :19:01.control. If he gets the right horses and breaks, he can really go to to
:19:02. > :19:12.the top of the sport. Certainly in your world, Mike, in
:19:13. > :19:16.the eventing world, you would know all had been his father? One of the
:19:17. > :19:21.most respected men there is in the horse world. New Zealand use him as
:19:22. > :19:25.their show jumping expert and everyone knows he is very talented.
:19:26. > :19:32.And this boy is very much following in his foot steps, I have to say.
:19:33. > :19:45.It's one down. We'll hear more of this young man, Eduardo Alvarez
:19:46. > :19:50.Aznar. That was unfortunate. Ran a little
:19:51. > :20:07.tight, fighting for his head to the style and just the one time as well.
:20:08. > :20:29.Andreas Schou, his brother ran a really big competition in Denmark,
:20:30. > :20:37.both of them, but particular hi Andreas, he's been part of Denmark's
:20:38. > :20:40.international teams in recent times. Denmark wouldn't be regarded as
:20:41. > :20:43.being at the forefront of international show jumping, but they
:20:44. > :20:45.put some good teams together in what is like the Second Division in the
:20:46. > :21:08.nation's cup league. A very capable horse. You can see
:21:09. > :21:11.another horse with a big power and capable engine, maybe towards the
:21:12. > :21:24.end of the course, might just get a bit strong.
:21:25. > :21:30.Looked to have a good balance and rhythm coming into that double.
:21:31. > :21:35.Front legs on to the back rail there. I think it's so close to the
:21:36. > :21:41.edge of the arena. Sometimes the horses just tense up.
:21:42. > :21:54.Huge amount of power over the second last, but makes too much ground up.
:21:55. > :22:06.Into the last fence. Two fences down, it's 8 for Andreas Schou.
:22:07. > :22:11.Very difficult to get the horses straight into that double as well.
:22:12. > :22:17.If you look at the angle on the replay, it's most of the horses
:22:18. > :22:22.having to jump in slightly across it. That difficulty with that last
:22:23. > :22:30.fence, it's so wide. The second last, the horse is on their heads
:22:31. > :22:37.coming down the four strides. Sweden now, who have qualified for the Rio
:22:38. > :22:46.Olympics. This is Johan Lundt. He's had a good start to the winter
:22:47. > :22:52.series. Very good class in the competitive Stockholme
:22:53. > :22:57.international. -- Johann Lundh. So often when the big one comes,
:22:58. > :23:03.everyone pulls out the stops. What fascinates me, it's been a real
:23:04. > :23:06.trend here at Olympia on these courses that we start out with a
:23:07. > :23:12.sequence of clear rounds, sometimes more than we've had tonight, and
:23:13. > :23:17.then suddenly, just as we are getting now, it starts to come. I've
:23:18. > :23:20.got to give you credit, because you did call that and that's what's
:23:21. > :23:23.happened. Loads of clears at the beginning and we thought maybe we'd
:23:24. > :23:27.get 20 or something and suddenly a lot of fences coming down, so full
:23:28. > :23:30.marks to you there, you definitely got that one right. Is there money
:23:31. > :23:37.on the end of that? ! LAUGHTER
:23:38. > :23:38.Back to the jumping. A good round here, just the one fence down. Good
:23:39. > :24:00.effort. Another rider finding it tough to
:24:01. > :24:02.get the straightness and balance and produce the jump into that big
:24:03. > :24:18.number 8, so quick off the corner. There goes Johan Lundh of Sweden
:24:19. > :24:27.and, in the ring, one of the big sporting stars for Sweden, it is
:24:28. > :24:37.Malin Baryard-Johnson. Riding the variety talented horse with one eye.
:24:38. > :24:44.Had one or two problems in the past but at his best is very good indeed.
:24:45. > :24:50.She's very open about it, Malin thinks this is the best show in the
:24:51. > :25:02.world, loves it. She brings her family and the Swedish people follow
:25:03. > :25:06.her every move here in London. Great to see this horse back in the sport.
:25:07. > :25:11.The way he's jumping there, he's really getting in the air. Let's
:25:12. > :25:19.just hope she can get round, get into the jumpoff. These two have
:25:20. > :25:27.been a top class combination for so many years.
:25:28. > :25:34.Been to ten World Cup finals. So that is a fantastic record to
:25:35. > :25:43.qualify in what is a very tough qualifying. Bit of a wobble there. A
:25:44. > :26:00.lovely ride. A lovely round. I think it was Tim who had his money on Mali
:26:01. > :26:05.and he could be right -- Malin. Fantastic to see Malin into the
:26:06. > :26:13.jumpoff. Tim Stockdale's tip. Let's see if he's right in the next round.
:26:14. > :26:19.Well, now, Robert Whitaker, Catwalk for me, his top horse now, finished
:26:20. > :26:24.fourth in this class last year behind the two Germans.
:26:25. > :26:30.And he's had quite a good season. Had a bit of ill health, wasn't well
:26:31. > :26:35.after the Horse of the Year show. Had a bit of tame away. Now back to
:26:36. > :26:42.his best, won the first class on his day here and he was in the nation's
:26:43. > :26:56.cup team in Rome which went very well.
:26:57. > :27:02.Hugely powerful, Holstein powerful horse but sometimes doesn't focus
:27:03. > :27:05.and concentrate. A slightly lazy jump mid combination. This is where
:27:06. > :27:14.he's got to really concentrate on his job.
:27:15. > :27:35.Four strides there, really went for it. Has got so much power.
:27:36. > :27:42.Great decision there. Extra stride in and he's over the time! What a
:27:43. > :27:47.shame. Well, he took the extra stride to the second last and that's
:27:48. > :27:52.given him a time fault. It's a bit of a Whitaker problem, one has to
:27:53. > :27:56.say. Father, brother, they've always had the odd time fault from time to
:27:57. > :28:00.time and this one matters for Robert. Yes, it's a great shame for
:28:01. > :28:03.Robert because he did the right thing, he didn't want to have a
:28:04. > :28:12.flyer to the second last so that he had the balance to jump the last.
:28:13. > :28:19.But unfortunately, he's paid for it. Time out of 69 seconds and one time
:28:20. > :28:25.fault for every second. That is where that one fault comes from from
:28:26. > :28:30.Robert and Catwalk. Now, the young lady that's stormed the
:28:31. > :28:34.international show jumping world, Jess Mendoza, Spirit T. Had a
:28:35. > :28:38.fantastic time here Friday night and an important member of the team that
:28:39. > :28:41.got qualification for Britain when they finished fourth in the nation's
:28:42. > :28:45.cup, the European Championships in Germany. Really came of age then,
:28:46. > :28:52.Andy? It was a true test of character for Jess. Always had
:28:53. > :28:58.unbelievable self-confidence but when she was up against it, that
:28:59. > :29:04.last round in Arken, she delivered. She certainly did. Tin Nished in the
:29:05. > :29:09.top three in Helsinki, got no fears, this girl -- finished. I was in
:29:10. > :29:13.Helsinki and she took on everyone there and went flat out, like she
:29:14. > :29:22.did this week, won her big class already this week. Let's hope she
:29:23. > :29:31.gets into the jumpoff, she'll thrill the crowd if she does. No, last
:29:32. > :29:41.fence! Looked to have it in the bag and jumped a little right-handed.
:29:42. > :29:48.Just have a look at this. Came down on the perfect four strides, but
:29:49. > :29:53.just watch. Moved a little right handed in the air and I think Jess
:29:54. > :30:05.looked back, she felt she wasn't quite getting the jump.
:30:06. > :30:13.A beautiful round and that horse gives so much. He does. He was quite
:30:14. > :30:18.a difficult course for us. Many of the difficult jumps comes off his
:30:19. > :30:24.right. A bit like the triple bar, he has to stretch on that one, because
:30:25. > :30:34.he sees it late and that makes him trying a bit harder. He is missing
:30:35. > :30:40.his right eye, so h right-handers are difficult. You must fancy your
:30:41. > :30:45.chances? Yes I love this place and my horse loves the place. It is
:30:46. > :30:49.always very hard to win here. Because the jump-offs are so quick
:30:50. > :30:55.and we have a bit of a handicap with the right side. But I'm going to
:30:56. > :31:02.give it a go. Good luck thank you. We are with another rising star for
:31:03. > :31:07.Finland, well went in the European young riders a couple of years ago
:31:08. > :31:23.and now is making her mark at the top level. Jumped well in the Geneva
:31:24. > :31:29.Grand Prix. It is Anna Giulio Continuo. She has gone well. He got
:31:30. > :31:40.pipped in the jump off behind John Whittaker. Earlier in the week. But
:31:41. > :31:49.she has a fence down. It amazes me, we have seen a lot of superer
:31:50. > :31:53.courses here, but they have used every inch of the arena, to the
:31:54. > :31:58.walls and back. It is very noticeable. Yes, it is so
:31:59. > :32:03.interesting how we are getting riders finding the odd fence here
:32:04. > :32:16.and there. Another unlucky four-faulter. Just fighting a bit to
:32:17. > :32:24.get the balance and control. That was an unlucky hit to have. This
:32:25. > :32:34.young lady is starting to impress with her couple of horses around
:32:35. > :32:48.these five-star shows. If there is one man who has made his mark it is
:32:49. > :32:55.think man, Simon Delestre. He rides Chessal. He won the silver in the
:32:56. > :33:03.European individual Championships and part of French team that was
:33:04. > :33:08.second in the worlds in Normandy. He has had a a great one in the World
:33:09. > :33:18.Cup. In the European league he is second. He is I think you can
:33:19. > :33:25.described, on fire. He has been around for a good few years, but has
:33:26. > :33:31.suddenly got two or three world class horses and he is one of those
:33:32. > :33:36.French riders with tremendous flair. Against the clock he is electric.
:33:37. > :33:42.But we are not going to see that today. That is a shame. He has
:33:43. > :33:46.rocketed up the rankings. He is fourth at the moment. But he has had
:33:47. > :33:55.some very good performances on his new horse in the last three weeks.
:33:56. > :34:08.Finishes on eight. That is one of the favourites out. This is a big
:34:09. > :34:15.horse and finding the arena tight. He has to give him a reminder.
:34:16. > :34:19.Having done that, things got a bit out of balance and that is when you
:34:20. > :34:26.start having those annoying verticals. Disappointing round for
:34:27. > :34:30.Simon. If the crowd haven't told you, let me tell you, this is a man
:34:31. > :34:37.called John Whittaker. You may have heard of him. He has been at the top
:34:38. > :34:43.of the sport for the best part of 45 years. Amazing. And I might add he
:34:44. > :34:49.is riding better than ever. That is what I think of the crowd, he says.
:34:50. > :34:54.I'm going to show you. He has been absolutely brilliant this horse
:34:55. > :34:59.Argento. John's always thought a lot of him. And it is all since he has
:35:00. > :35:03.matured, come of age. There are classes which John know what is this
:35:04. > :35:12.horse is good at and he has targeted that. Will it be now? Well, we are
:35:13. > :35:19.looking at an interesting scenario. When we spoke to the Bernardo who
:35:20. > :35:24.built the course he said it could suit Argento. There is only one wide
:35:25. > :35:29.oxer. He is so careful and he is not a lover of wide fences. John had to
:35:30. > :35:35.work hard down the combination. He doesn't have the biggest stride. He
:35:36. > :35:44.has the next oxer into the double to jump, which will be tough. John, he
:35:45. > :35:55.is working for it. John is giving it 110%. As he always does. But the
:35:56. > :35:59.next test will be the second last. He will have to work and no that is
:36:00. > :36:05.the oxer that has caught him. It was always an oxer that wz maybe going
:36:06. > :36:10.to be a problem. What a pity. The man has been riding so well this
:36:11. > :36:15.week. Leading rider at the start of the day. But he is not going to add
:36:16. > :36:24.to it in the World Cup. He bows out with 8. John did such a brilliant
:36:25. > :36:31.job. You can see him running out of petrol down the last two big oxers.
:36:32. > :36:41.Argento is a brilliant vertical jumper. John couldn't get the old
:36:42. > :36:49.boy to clear the last two. He is still ever green. He still loves it.
:36:50. > :37:06.You can see the arm band, that signifies he is leading rider.
:37:07. > :37:20.And Ben Ben Maher without a top team. The horse has had to do a lot
:37:21. > :37:24.of work. He has been crucial to Britain's season. Not only
:37:25. > :37:30.qualifying for Rio in Germany, but also for a brilliant performance in
:37:31. > :37:38.the nations Cup Final in Barcelona, where Britain finished second behind
:37:39. > :37:46.Belgium. This man put in again a faultless performance. He rode his
:37:47. > :37:57.luck there. This is a combination that we expect to see on the British
:37:58. > :38:03.team in Rio. This mare came of age here last year winning the Grand
:38:04. > :38:11.Prix. She is only ten years old. British bred by the Edgars. One to
:38:12. > :38:15.go. Ben is in form. He won the Masters here yesterday in great
:38:16. > :38:23.form, with a young horse, and he as you can see is riding very
:38:24. > :38:31.competently and very well. Ben Maher and Diva II, it is clear round the
:38:32. > :38:41.second. Ben producing the clear. A couple of times he had to work. She
:38:42. > :38:51.is quite opinion ated as she goes around the corners. Ben is so
:38:52. > :38:55.effective. The other man that is jumping in this class that helped
:38:56. > :39:02.Britain to that gold medal in London. Now Scott Brash, the world's
:39:03. > :39:07.No 1. He has been nearly two years at the top of the world rankings.
:39:08. > :39:15.About a month not off. He has had another great season. Particularly
:39:16. > :39:22.with that amazing three world class Grand Prix victories. One wonders if
:39:23. > :39:27.it will ever be done again. It is a young horse, only nine, Hello
:39:28. > :39:32.M'Lady. It is a big ask. You can see with this mare, she is very sharp.
:39:33. > :39:40.She has a lot of blood. Scott's got to try and control the balance. She
:39:41. > :39:45.almost looks like a thoroughbred, which makes her quite sharp. She is
:39:46. > :39:53.tremendously athletic. Very powerful. Watch her fight for her
:39:54. > :40:05.head. Scott doing a brilliant job. Keeping her calm. He has had some
:40:06. > :40:16.good placingsen this. He was third in ve Rhona. He has take an flyer
:40:17. > :40:21.there. The crowd will love that. Britain's representation are
:40:22. > :40:33.beginning to fill out. That is the third clear round for Great Britain.
:40:34. > :40:39.This is Scott Brash at his best. This mare is very talented, but
:40:40. > :40:44.needs to feel and the sympathies that Scott can bring to the table.
:40:45. > :40:48.He went forward on the six strides to the second last and I don't know
:40:49. > :40:51.how he managed to produce the balance at the last fence. But that
:40:52. > :40:59.is Scott. So much feel for his horses. He muched his cheek -- he
:41:00. > :41:08.puffed his cheeks there. He knew he did well. This is one of greats of
:41:09. > :41:16.Germany. He has won four Olympic golds, including individual gold. It
:41:17. > :41:28.is the great Ludger Beerbaum. Still in the top ten in the world on this
:41:29. > :41:36.lovely mare, Chiara. Has been a big winner for him. Has won two big
:41:37. > :41:40.Grand Prixs. At Munster and Mannheim. He has not been as
:41:41. > :41:45.consistent and fallen down the rankings a bit. He was world No 1 on
:41:46. > :41:50.many occasions. But there is a lot of good riders out there. Even the
:41:51. > :41:54.big guns like Ludger are finding it tough. Yes finding a fence there.
:41:55. > :42:02.Ludger, it is great to have him at the show. He is a legend in the
:42:03. > :42:07.sport. His record is probably in Championships second to none. As you
:42:08. > :42:17.say, last month or two just been having the odd fence here and there.
:42:18. > :42:21.Chiara is so talented. It is disappointing to have that lazy back
:42:22. > :42:29.rail. Very lucky not to have another one. He finishes with just the one
:42:30. > :42:36.in the end. But it will be one too many. He has featured in this World
:42:37. > :42:48.Cup round here in London in the past. Married to an English lady. He
:42:49. > :42:52.likes coming here to London. There is the fence just landing a little
:42:53. > :43:29.steeply. So frustrating. Now for the Netherlands Michael van
:43:30. > :43:36.der Vleuten. He is riding AreraC. He finished sixth. He is 18th in the
:43:37. > :43:42.western European league. He had a good season. The Netherlands won the
:43:43. > :43:52.European team Championship. Michael was part of that. As he was with the
:43:53. > :43:57.world gold in nor Manedy. Where the - Normandy. They didn't get in the
:43:58. > :44:06.first three there. Michael had a disappointing show, but the horses
:44:07. > :44:12.have come back to form. A rarity, only ten years old, but looking like
:44:13. > :44:21.a fantastic replacement for Verdy, which is his main top horse.
:44:22. > :44:30.Another rider that is bred to be in the saddle. His father Eric, a
:44:31. > :44:34.fantastic trainer in Holland, a brilliant rider in his own right. He
:44:35. > :44:44.has had a great grounding from day one. Oh, unlucky fence. That is a
:44:45. > :44:54.shame. We keep seeing a few niggling four faults. This course is doing
:44:55. > :45:01.its stuff. And remember, we have at the moment eight clear rounds. Show
:45:02. > :45:07.jumping can be so cruel. Just that little lack of concentration, you
:45:08. > :45:13.can see the back legs didn't release on the big oxer. Well this
:45:14. > :45:30.combination we see in the ring now is one that is many people's idea of
:45:31. > :45:40.a winner here. It is another Dutchman, Jur Vreiling. On this very
:45:41. > :45:44.good grey horse, Zirocco Blue NOP. NOP is an important thing to watch
:45:45. > :45:48.for the Dutch, it means it is a horse that is retained in the
:45:49. > :46:04.ownership of the Dutch federation so, they can use its for teams.
:46:05. > :46:17.This is a horse who has proper Olympic scope. Used the seeing him
:46:18. > :46:30.in much bigger arenas. But Vreiling is very competitive.
:46:31. > :46:39.In the World Cup series, he's been in very good form. Went well both in
:46:40. > :46:48.Helsinki and Oslo. And he's done it again! No, in fact, he has got
:46:49. > :46:54.inside the time and jumped clear. So he is now clear round number 9.
:46:55. > :47:00.A good start to that, nice clear round. She was really trying hard,
:47:01. > :47:04.wasn't she? She was. She's never going to change, she is how she is,
:47:05. > :47:08.has an opinion around the course but when she's fighting for me like that
:47:09. > :47:12.with the jump, as long as I get where I need to be, she's helping me
:47:13. > :47:16.out. Difficult course for her today, very tight distances. Not really
:47:17. > :47:19.seated to her, but it shows how much she's improved over the last year
:47:20. > :47:23.that she can cope in every environment. Good look in the
:47:24. > :47:29.jumpoff. Thank you. The stars are here. In fact, there
:47:30. > :47:33.are 15 riders out of the top 30 world ranking riders. And here is
:47:34. > :47:37.another one with a great Olympia record and a great record
:47:38. > :47:48.internationally. Olympic gold, he won his team gold in Sydney. Marcus
:47:49. > :47:57.loves coming here to another rider. Always here every year. This horse
:47:58. > :48:07.has been jumping at this level for a year, just beginning to come good
:48:08. > :48:18.and get some very decent results. 15 World Cup finals Marcus has done and
:48:19. > :48:22.he's won three. Very good record for Marcus Ehning. The stallion having a
:48:23. > :48:34.play around the corner there, needs to keep the concentration.
:48:35. > :48:40.If you watch Marcus, he's always coming forward, always fleeing,
:48:41. > :48:57.really attacking this last line. That man at his best is fantastic to
:48:58. > :49:03.watch. Another clear win tore the jumpoff. Scott, it doesn't look the
:49:04. > :49:10.easier course to get into a rhythm on. How is it riding -- winner to
:49:11. > :49:14.the jumpoff? It's twisty-Turney and everything comes up fast. Happy with
:49:15. > :49:20.the horse? Yes, a little sharp at the end but I was happy with how she
:49:21. > :49:32.jumped. Good luck in the jump-off. Thanks.
:49:33. > :49:36.. Another world star, it is Kevin Staut, a classic win in Windsor and
:49:37. > :49:43.he's been top of the world rankings many times. Not just at the top at
:49:44. > :49:49.if very moment but he's in the top ten -- the very moment. He's riding
:49:50. > :49:54.this afternoon and he's done six World Cup finals and he had some
:49:55. > :49:57.very good form in Paris recently. Won a class there and was fifth in
:49:58. > :50:06.the World Cup in Oslo. So frustrating for Kevin, just a
:50:07. > :50:17.lazy jump at the first fence. Always a long way around the course. Not
:50:18. > :50:23.much chance of any prize money but Kevin carrying on. At this stage of
:50:24. > :50:29.the proceedings, you could ask me who I'd put my money on. Let me
:50:30. > :50:33.think, could it be a Frenchman? Marcus Ehning. I waited until he
:50:34. > :50:39.jumped clear before I revealed it! Cheeky. He's made mincemeat of the
:50:40. > :50:46.rest of the course and that first fence very expensive. He'll be
:50:47. > :50:51.kicking himself. Another big gun gone. Plenty still in, one has to
:50:52. > :51:04.say. Ten clears. 11 left to go. Kevin did absolutely nothing wrong.
:51:05. > :51:14.Horses for you, they are not machines. Didn't focus and after
:51:15. > :51:19.that, jump add lovely round on Reveur de Hurtebsie. The one Italian
:51:20. > :51:26.rider that's at Olympia this year, and he certainly is there, ranked
:51:27. > :51:46.25th in the world, eman and he's not the
:51:47. > :51:51.most stylish but very competitive -- Emmanuel. This horse is such a
:51:52. > :51:55.trier. Not all the scope in the world but sometimes it's not always
:51:56. > :52:04.scope that counts, it's the horse's attitude. These two are a pair of
:52:05. > :52:30.fighters and work very hard for each other.
:52:31. > :52:41.The big one for this horse. Great effort. Oh, what a round. Typical of
:52:42. > :52:47.the Italian. He's been managed by one of the best managers there is in
:52:48. > :52:53.the sport and he's certainly focussing the Italians. Emanuele
:52:54. > :52:59.Gaudiano, you've got to give him and his horse 11 out of ten for effort,
:53:00. > :53:12.fighting all the way. And that's what counts. Jumped his clear round.
:53:13. > :53:17.There's Ben Maher looking very pleased with himself. And you can't
:53:18. > :53:29.blame him. He's been in good form this week.
:53:30. > :53:41.Pius Schwizer, produces a lot of horses and often sells them on. Back
:53:42. > :53:49.again with some good horses making that team begin to tick. This horse
:53:50. > :53:51.owned by Peter, PSG Future, which was ridden very successfully by
:53:52. > :54:03.Martin Foulkes, but now with Pius. These two not really clicking. They
:54:04. > :54:06.have had a few in-out rounds over the last couple of months and this
:54:07. > :54:13.is another round where they are not just 100% on the same wavelength.
:54:14. > :54:17.Pius is one of those riders who pulls off an amazing feat of being
:54:18. > :54:21.able to sell horses and produce new ones, but this one not really
:54:22. > :54:24.operating. You can see he looks a bit tight, a bit tense. I'm
:54:25. > :54:38.surprised that Pius is carrying on. Jumps the last. 16. That's for PSG
:54:39. > :54:58.Future. Things just started to go wrong
:54:59. > :55:02.quite early on. Triple bar, didn't make the stretch over the wide
:55:03. > :55:08.fence. Then got really tight in his shoulders over one or two others.
:55:09. > :55:18.Into the combination having all sorts of problems.
:55:19. > :55:32.Now Germany, a man who won this World Cup last year here, Marco
:55:33. > :55:34.Kutscher, riding Chaccorina. He's got an amazing record of stable
:55:35. > :55:56.jockeys that he's mentored. This man a European champion. He
:55:57. > :56:02.finished 11th in the World Cup final last year. Showing some good World
:56:03. > :56:09.Cup form, gone well in Madrid, Verona and Stuttgart. Can uh now
:56:10. > :56:20.repeat last year's victory? -- can he now. Fabulous mare, incredible
:56:21. > :56:25.amount of ability. Marco's very tall and makes this horse look a bit
:56:26. > :56:28.smaller than she is, but she's massively powerful and scopy. Lovely
:56:29. > :57:05.control and balance as well there. Lucky at the last. But he goes
:57:06. > :57:10.through incident. -- goes through incidentally. Lovely round there.
:57:11. > :57:13.Just that little bit of luck at the last fence. Quite a few of them have
:57:14. > :57:27.found the horses pulling down the last line. It stayed up.
:57:28. > :57:39.Now Britain's leading lady, Laura Renwick, another great season, on
:57:40. > :57:45.Bintang II. Spends a lot of time on the continent. Been toe Portugal,
:57:46. > :57:51.Iberia. She's on 64 international classes this year and been in very
:57:52. > :57:55.good form -- bean to. This horse has looked sensational this week but
:57:56. > :57:59.doesn't always feature in the big classes, but one gets the impression
:58:00. > :58:03.Laura's looking more and more like an international rider than could be
:58:04. > :58:15.a great benefit to Di Lampard in her nation's cups. It's all about
:58:16. > :58:20.horsepower. Orlando mare, beautifully bred Dutch breeding and
:58:21. > :58:23.you would say this is a horse that's definitely going to be useful for
:58:24. > :58:34.the British teams over the next season or two.
:58:35. > :58:42.As we know with Laura, if she gets into the jumpoff, she's so fast and
:58:43. > :58:52.brilliant against the clockth clock. It would be brilliant to see her in
:58:53. > :58:58.the next round. Fantastic round. She's through. She's maintaining the
:58:59. > :59:13.form and that's good to see. Another for Britain.
:59:14. > :59:20.So, 13 clears already into the jump-off which is what we had last
:59:21. > :59:25.year and still one or two to go. Brilliant round there from Laura
:59:26. > :59:31.Renwick with her young nine-year-old, really looking every
:59:32. > :59:37.inch top Grand Prix horse. Certainly. Robert Whitaker will be
:59:38. > :59:44.disappointed. I've seen happier faces. Can't blame him. It's what it
:59:45. > :59:49.means to people. Here is another one who's been showing cracking good
:59:50. > :59:56.form, both here at this show and elsewhere in Europe, was second in a
:59:57. > :00:17.very strong Grand Prix in Deportivo La Coruna in Spain ten days ago.
:00:18. > :00:24.A fascinating rider to watch because he rides with short stirrups and
:00:25. > :00:28.long reins and if you watch him over the fence, he looks as though he's
:00:29. > :00:34.leaning back and hanging on but he has his own style and is a very
:00:35. > :00:35.effective rider. He's another rider that really loves a gallop against
:00:36. > :01:00.the clock. man, Just leaning back to get the
:01:01. > :01:12.balance. He could be a real danger. He has got a good draw and Germany
:01:13. > :01:18.looking strong. This contender mare, she has got fabulous ability, stays
:01:19. > :01:25.careful, makes a good shape all of the way and as Mike said could be a
:01:26. > :01:29.danger in the jump off. Now they will have the draw and they know
:01:30. > :01:37.what they have got to beat when they get in the ring. All the stars are
:01:38. > :01:44.out at play. Because here is the Olympic champion of 2012, the great
:01:45. > :01:50.Steve Guerdat from Switzerland. He won the big Grand Prix in Geneva
:01:51. > :02:02.just a week ago with his Olympic horse. But he has brought here
:02:03. > :02:08.another good course -- good horse, Corbinian. He has some good
:02:09. > :02:20.horsepower these days. Can he join the 14 others? If he can, he has a
:02:21. > :02:26.good draw. It shows the depth of horsepower they have. This
:02:27. > :02:31.nine-year-old will have an enormous amount of ability and look at and
:02:32. > :02:37.height down the combination. It is fabulous to watch. Well looking at
:02:38. > :02:42.the last four, after Steve Guerdat, you wouldn't be surprised frankly to
:02:43. > :02:48.have clear right across the board. They're that talented. We had a
:02:49. > :02:54.discussion today about how many clears and we all got it wrong. We
:02:55. > :03:04.didn't envisage so many. You're right.
:03:05. > :03:15.Just tips the last. But the lightest of tips and the Olympic champion is
:03:16. > :03:20.looking in great form. That was a lovely round. You must be delighted?
:03:21. > :03:25.Yes over the moon. He is only nine and this is his first time at
:03:26. > :03:28.Olympia and he has been double clear and only his second World Cup
:03:29. > :03:34.qualifier. Are you surprised how many clears we have had? Very. It
:03:35. > :03:39.walked... Like a proper World Cup qualifier should walk. It is quite
:03:40. > :03:44.tight. But they're jumping off the grund so well. There is some great
:03:45. > :03:50.horses and riders. You're pretty good in the jump off, you must fancy
:03:51. > :03:59.your chances Yes but he is not the most experienced. I will give it my
:04:00. > :04:18.best shot. Thank you. This man finished second last year. Very
:04:19. > :04:25.stylish, Daniel Deusser. He has won a World Cup final in Lyon in 2014.
:04:26. > :04:37.Very much part of the top German team. Another of these tall riders
:04:38. > :04:48.on a big horse with an enormous amount of power and ability. I think
:04:49. > :04:55.- just out the corner. We haven't seen a fault there for a while. But
:04:56. > :04:59.that was a proper mistake. Picking up on something Laura Renwick said,
:05:00. > :05:03.one of the reasons they're jumping so well is the fantastic ground
:05:04. > :05:11.here. They are pinging off this surface. That is a real credit to
:05:12. > :05:16.the show. There is no doubt that any show that has world class footing,
:05:17. > :05:23.you're going get better jumping. And this sur fafs is doing -- sur fafs
:05:24. > :05:28.is doing -- surface is doing its stuff. Germany will be a real
:05:29. > :05:34.danger. They won the World Cup here last year and they're lining up to
:05:35. > :05:51.do it again. One down for Daniel Deusser.
:05:52. > :05:58.Another from the Ludger Beerbaum Academy. He actually rides for
:05:59. > :06:04.Sweden. But he is the stable jockey for Ludger. Henrik Vonn Eckermann.
:06:05. > :06:12.He has played some part in the Swedish success. One remembers the
:06:13. > :06:18.bronze they won. This man, very important part of that bronze medal.
:06:19. > :06:29.He is riding a nine-year-old, Sansibar. Henrik has had a lot of
:06:30. > :06:35.success and moved up the rankings. It will be interesting to see how
:06:36. > :06:42.much longer Ludger goes on riding and whether he devotes more time to
:06:43. > :06:45.training. He is such a brilliant influence on all his pupils, because
:06:46. > :06:53.they all ride the same way as him. And they all win a lot. This is a
:06:54. > :06:59.difficult horse to control. Quite strong. Got all the ability. Henrik
:07:00. > :07:08.did well to hold it together through that double. This one is only nine
:07:09. > :07:16.as well. Fabulously scopy, but might get a bit tough down to the last
:07:17. > :07:24.fence. Well ridden. He is through. Oh no he has had the fence. One down
:07:25. > :07:28.going into the double. Some of the stars have had their problems,
:07:29. > :07:33.others have given us some good clear rounds. 15 of them at the moment.
:07:34. > :07:41.Yes it was a late falling pole. He just caught it. That was unlucky.
:07:42. > :07:58.Two left to go. There is Steve Guerdat look at the
:07:59. > :08:06.jump off course. Studying the form. Another of the youngsters that are
:08:07. > :08:16.really just flying to the top rankings. This is 20-year-old
:08:17. > :08:23.Bertram Allen. He had had a cracking season. Hofs One of the great
:08:24. > :08:28.thrills was to be on the winning Aga Khan team. There was a huge thrill
:08:29. > :08:38.to him. He has had some fantastic wins on this horse. Won the Grand
:08:39. > :08:51.Prix in Stockholm. Quite Easy a horse that Ben Maher rode. But now
:08:52. > :08:55.being ridden by Bertram Allen. We have spoken about Jessica Mendoza as
:08:56. > :09:01.an up and coming star, but this young man is still very young. His
:09:02. > :09:08.temperament is uncanny. He is so cool, so confident. If he carries on
:09:09. > :09:19.like this, he is going to be a world super star for many years. Giving
:09:20. > :09:26.this one a brilliant ride so far. Oh he squeaked the last. Ireland has
:09:27. > :09:31.got two. He joins Cian O'Connor, Bertram Allen and he will have a
:09:32. > :09:38.good draw. Just because he is only 20, you don't discount this young
:09:39. > :09:42.man. No right from day one he has had tremendous self-confidence and
:09:43. > :09:52.he is not afraid to take anyone on. Any situation, he is quick and calm.
:09:53. > :09:57.Britain so far has Williams, Maher, Scott Renwick through. Will they get
:09:58. > :10:03.one more. Will they get this man, Michael Whittaker, riding his wife's
:10:04. > :10:12.Viking. The horse he rode so brilliantly to help Britain win the
:10:13. > :10:17.gold medal in the Europeans of 2013. Now, he didn't ride this horse in
:10:18. > :10:22.Achen, but he was crucial in securing the fourth place that got
:10:23. > :10:30.Britain the qualification for Rio. He has been in good form this week.
:10:31. > :10:35.He has not great strength in Depp Nith real world classes, but this
:10:36. > :10:41.horse at his best can pull something special out of the bag. Earlier in
:10:42. > :10:48.the week, Viking jumped clear in a jump off class, but he elected not
:10:49. > :10:53.to jump off. He is obviously saving is Viking for this class. This is
:10:54. > :10:58.the one he wants to win. We have had three Whit kers and none in the jump
:10:59. > :11:09.off yet. That is quite a stat in itself. Will Michael vindicate his
:11:10. > :11:13.decision not to jump off by going clear and if he does go clear, as
:11:14. > :11:25.you say, he has got the draw. He is last in the jump off. Having a
:11:26. > :11:31.couple of rattles. He has got it! Ehas got it, he has got that good
:11:32. > :11:35.draw. Will he make the most of it? 17 clear rounds to go. It is going
:11:36. > :11:52.to be a Qlassic. Here are the 17 that have gone
:11:53. > :11:56.through. Here they are. All the way down the line there is some great
:11:57. > :12:24.competitors there. We have so much coming up from
:12:25. > :12:29.Olympia in the next couple of days. We will be talking with Tim about
:12:30. > :12:33.that in a moment. If you have been enjoying our action tonight, there
:12:34. > :12:38.is more tomorrow and the full performance and the Olympia Grand
:12:39. > :12:43.Prix. That is on the red button. Tomorrow morning at 11, you can see
:12:44. > :12:51.highlights of all of that. Tim, where to start. 17 clears. That is
:12:52. > :12:56.over half the field. I know. When we walked the course, we knew it was a
:12:57. > :13:00.big course and difficult. But the horses have jumped it well. No one
:13:01. > :13:06.is making it look easy. They're having to work. It wasn't a beauty
:13:07. > :13:12.pageant. But they were leaving the fences. It has taken a lot of guts.
:13:13. > :13:17.It will be a very difficult course for the jump-off. It was tricky to
:13:18. > :13:21.get into the rhythm what will we see? They will strip the course and
:13:22. > :13:27.there will be more open spaces. One and two is three and five and so you
:13:28. > :13:33.have a big long gallop and then a turn back and then a chance to drop
:13:34. > :13:37.a stride, very big parallel and then a gallop and it is then back to a
:13:38. > :13:41.turn to a double, taking a stride out maybe and then chancing your arm
:13:42. > :13:47.down the last line to try and see if you can win. I think that is going
:13:48. > :13:52.to play more into the riders that have the space and size of stride
:13:53. > :13:57.and can ride at speed. It will be tricky for the guys at the front and
:13:58. > :14:02.there could be 15 behind them. That is a very different approach. No, in
:14:03. > :14:07.a World Cup, there will be points at stake and you may see some riders
:14:08. > :14:11.opting to take a different approach and jump clear or maybe not take
:14:12. > :14:15.that silly risk and hope for a top four or five place to give them
:14:16. > :14:20.points for the final. So it will be intriguing. But Bertram Allen at the
:14:21. > :14:26.end, we were saying, there is no faster rider in a competition than
:14:27. > :14:34.Bertram and at the end it is hold on to your hats time. Andy can take us
:14:35. > :14:40.round the course. This is an amazing jump-off for speed. You can take
:14:41. > :14:47.strides out to an inviting oxer. The plank has been taken away. And you
:14:48. > :14:53.sweep left-handed back to this, what was an oxer and is now a vertical.
:14:54. > :15:02.Another gallop to an oxer. There is a long route all the way and who can
:15:03. > :15:07.dare to turn up to what was No 8? Then that light fence in the middle.
:15:08. > :15:11.This is the turn that will sort them out. Swinging into the oxer. Can
:15:12. > :15:15.they take a chance there? And look at that for a long gallop down to
:15:16. > :15:25.the last fence. It will be thrilling. We mentioned Bartram
:15:26. > :15:31.Allen and what a year he has had. He had moved to sixth in the world
:15:32. > :15:40.rankings. He is only 20 and he is a star.
:15:41. > :15:47.He's really used to winning and again, his DNA in the middle of it
:15:48. > :15:52.says win, so he's going to be close. Who else will you be looking out
:15:53. > :16:02.for? Ben Maher would be close in my book sg - ment thank you very much.
:16:03. > :16:09.We are certainly set for a classic. It's fasten the safety belts. Early
:16:10. > :16:13.riders, they have to just go for it. As we have spoke about a draw a lot,
:16:14. > :16:16.the early riders, if they want to get any money now, they've got to
:16:17. > :16:30.take every chance. They have, they have. It's a good mix of countries,
:16:31. > :16:35.that's for sure, Netherlands, Austria, Britain, Ireland, a real
:16:36. > :16:48.classic field and it's France's Olivier Robert to go first.
:16:49. > :16:58.We'll get an indication of what is going to happen. The fact is, poles
:16:59. > :17:01.could go flying. So often the big jawmp-offs, the first few overcook
:17:02. > :17:12.it and we have seen that time and again. It's a lot of pressure to be
:17:13. > :17:37.a trailblazer. This is what we wanted to see. He's
:17:38. > :17:41.not taking any chances. As we see so off none show jumping, that extra
:17:42. > :17:48.bit of pace, the horses lose the carefulness. This will give us a
:17:49. > :17:51.good idea of what the time can be. This is the crucial turn. Are they
:17:52. > :18:05.going to gamble around the corner? I think they can take strides out.
:18:06. > :18:07.You perhaps saw a glimpse of what might happen there with those two
:18:08. > :18:22.fences down for Olivier Robert. Big scopy mare throwing the font
:18:23. > :18:25.legs. Once the speed had taken over, you could see the jump flattened
:18:26. > :18:34.out. Here we go again taking the front rail there, too much pace and
:18:35. > :18:39.the shape of the jump had gone. It's given us some idea of the time. I
:18:40. > :18:47.think they might go a bit quicker. I agree. 36 even. That might be being
:18:48. > :18:52.a bit brave but we'll see. We'll see but this is a man that can go for
:18:53. > :18:55.it. Yes, Guy Williams loves a challenge against the clock. I
:18:56. > :18:57.wouldn't necessarily fancy this horse at its best going that fast
:18:58. > :19:20.but we'll see. Very experienced. He's really attacking. This is
:19:21. > :19:28.tight. This is what you expect from Guy Williams. Four across the middle
:19:29. > :19:42.and he's left it. Looked like it was coming down. Some challenge!
:19:43. > :19:48.Fantastic round, 37. .74 clear. Some performance. The interesting thing
:19:49. > :19:52.here is that there's 145,000 euros in the pot, 36,000 just a little
:19:53. > :19:57.more actually and he was after that. That was a brilliant effort. Titus
:19:58. > :20:01.has got so much stride and scope and he had that bit of luck. That's the
:20:02. > :20:05.one place where he went on full stride but look at the way he rode
:20:06. > :20:08.the last two fences. You would think he was riding the Grand National!
:20:09. > :20:21.Took a stride up, absolutely brilliant. Great to watch.
:20:22. > :20:38.Speeden with two to come. Peder FredericsonH M all in. You can
:20:39. > :20:42.take every chance in the book now after that round by Guy Williams,
:20:43. > :20:52.where he really didn't leave too much anywhere. This is a great
:20:53. > :20:57.start. Again, that pace is so hard to keep the horses carefully. Slow
:20:58. > :21:01.down a little bit. Guy Williams' round was really extraordinary and
:21:02. > :21:04.Titus indoors not the easiest and you see there, control, balance and
:21:05. > :21:16.rhythm. That kind of pace very difficult. Lost control totally.
:21:17. > :21:19.Somebody upstairs is looking after him because he hit that style hard
:21:20. > :21:24.and normally with the modern jumps it wouldn't stay up. But today it
:21:25. > :21:27.did. Guy's round's going to be tough to beat. Time allowed of 45 seconds
:21:28. > :21:51.so he's got time faults as well. A rueful smile there. He set off.
:21:52. > :21:56.He'd obviously seen what Guy Williams had done and thought OK,
:21:57. > :22:00.I'm going to try to do the same. He's completely overcooked it.
:22:01. > :22:16.Completely lost his balance and it happens.
:22:17. > :22:23.Now it's Austria's Max Kuhner. He wasn't getting the chances at
:22:24. > :22:32.international level that he thought he could.
:22:33. > :22:37.That's why he moved to Austria. It's been a good move. He's quite
:22:38. > :22:40.capable. Not sure he's going to get a lot of qualifying points in this
:22:41. > :22:54.Western European League this afternoon. But he is quite capable.
:22:55. > :22:58.Always interesting seeing what tactics they go for. Guy's time was
:22:59. > :23:10.so fast, you can see that he's just trying to jump the clear round, and
:23:11. > :23:21.if he jumps the last he's got a bit slower. That's clear and he now goes
:23:22. > :23:32.in behind Guy Williams with four gone. A good tactical move. Plenty
:23:33. > :23:36.of prize money down the line, plenty of points to be won. A good tactical
:23:37. > :23:45.round into second place. This man has a very good eye for a
:23:46. > :23:56.show jumper. He's picked up a lot of very good horses and taken them on
:23:57. > :24:03.to be international stars. He thinks a bit of this horse and he'll test
:24:04. > :24:03.it this afternoon. Lovely careful jumper.
:24:04. > :24:28.Certainly turning untight here. Got a bit of work to do to catch him but
:24:29. > :24:37.he's having a go. Good effort. Certainly was. Certainly was! 38.51.
:24:38. > :24:42.He nips in behind Guy Williams in second place in these early stages.
:24:43. > :24:50.Super Sox is a lovely young jumper. That was a good round. It again
:24:51. > :24:54.underrhines just how fast Titus and Guy Williams went. Nearly a second
:24:55. > :24:58.behind and he took all the options, he was trying to keep moving, but
:24:59. > :25:10.spent a little more time in the air as well. Interesting to see whether
:25:11. > :25:17.Bertram Allen can beat that time. He'll save every inch of the ground.
:25:18. > :25:27.Well, off now, goes the second challenge from Sweden, the very
:25:28. > :25:32.talented Malin Baryard-Johnsson. Tornesch. Not sure this is the
:25:33. > :25:38.fastest. A lot of galloping here the way guy did this, in fact. Malin's a
:25:39. > :25:41.naturally forward rider. She's gone just a touch wider here, she's going
:25:42. > :25:47.to have to pike up some time after that turn. -- pick up some time
:25:48. > :25:51.after that turn. Such a lovely smooth jump. That's the one guy was
:25:52. > :26:07.lucky at. Didn't have any luck there. Guy Williams has really set
:26:08. > :26:19.some target. This is fascinating. 39.85. Malin Baryard-Johnsson.
:26:20. > :26:26.Lovely and neat here, but just watch the forward strides into that
:26:27. > :26:29.vertical. A very, very light narrow, little fence, attacking on the four
:26:30. > :26:34.strides and then the last fence as well.
:26:35. > :26:38.The thing is, as so often is the case, if you are able and have the
:26:39. > :26:41.little bit of luck that Guy has and have a quick round, it has the rest
:26:42. > :26:48.going and it's difficult to get ahead. What are they supposed to do,
:26:49. > :26:52.you have got to try and beat them. So, this love hi mare bred by the
:26:53. > :27:02.Edgars, I bet they are jumping up and down.
:27:03. > :27:07.Diva II ridden by Ben Maher. Such a key member to Britain's defence of
:27:08. > :27:10.that Olympic title in Rio next year. And this mare could be an important
:27:11. > :27:32.part of that partnership. The target of Guy Williams' to beat
:27:33. > :27:36.with Titus. One to two is eight strides. Nothing
:27:37. > :27:40.they can do to change that. But it's a turn back to the second last and
:27:41. > :27:46.then taking the stride out to the last that's key.
:27:47. > :28:02.30 seconds gone. Not too far away. No, he is not. He is not. It's going
:28:03. > :28:19.to be very close. Oh, he's done it. He has! He has! Wow. 37. 15. So,
:28:20. > :28:23.half a second. Wow. Fantastic efforts there from Ben. This mare
:28:24. > :28:26.love this is arena, Ben just slightly shaved off a little bit
:28:27. > :28:31.down to the second last. Had a brilliant turn into the double. Rode
:28:32. > :28:37.his luck, as did Guy Williams, and again here. And this was the turn
:28:38. > :28:45.into the second last and then just kept motoring. Look at that down to
:28:46. > :28:50.the last fence. Using the power and scope, this mare really does have a
:28:51. > :29:01.big engine. She does. Now Scott Brash has got a big task on his
:29:02. > :29:06.hands now, the world number one. Hello M' Lady. To win it, he's got
:29:07. > :29:11.to go flat out. This is a mare with a future, one wonders is it right to
:29:12. > :29:14.go flat out as a nine-year-old? Don't doubt it for one second. Had a
:29:15. > :29:24.skip and a buck there, which didn't help. He's on the pace. This mare
:29:25. > :29:32.with fabulous athletic ability and a big stride. Really taking a chance.
:29:33. > :29:39.She was super careful in the double. Here's the turn.
:29:40. > :29:47.Still got a bit to do. Quite close but I don't think he's quite going
:29:48. > :29:56.to get there. He's into second place, isn't he? No, third. Yes,
:29:57. > :30:02.second it is! Second it is. One thing's for sure, we are all getting
:30:03. > :30:08.our money's worth. This is the most extraordinary jump-off. Scott Brash
:30:09. > :30:14.and Ben Meyer going head-to-head, fractions of the second in it. I
:30:15. > :30:29.think if you just watch him down to the last, a little steady, and
:30:30. > :30:34.that's what cost him. So it is Maher and Williams that are one, two
:30:35. > :30:47.three. Will they get the rest of the international stars going? Who will
:30:48. > :30:51.get amongst them? Will this man. Will the Netherlands' Jur Vreiling
:30:52. > :30:59.be able to push the scores of British riders. This horse is such a
:31:00. > :31:06.deliberate mover, it is hard. He has to give it his best shot. He is a
:31:07. > :31:12.very strong lad. You can see there he has got a bit cold off the leg.
:31:13. > :31:17.This horse doesn't enjoy this type of galloping and whizzing around
:31:18. > :31:24.corners. He is a clear round jumper in a big ring. Four penalties for
:31:25. > :31:29.that refusal. Four on the board. He will also have a slow time. He won a
:31:30. > :31:33.class earlier in the week and got unshipped in the presentation of
:31:34. > :31:39.awards and the horse ga lopped around and it went viral on YouTube,
:31:40. > :31:47.he has been having so much stick about it. But there he is. He has
:31:48. > :31:52.got 12 penalties. The man we thought would be a strong Dutch challenge
:31:53. > :32:00.goes down the leaderboard at the moment into eighth. He is a fabulous
:32:01. > :32:04.jumper, but he is suited to the big outdoor arena. Around that corner he
:32:05. > :32:22.didn't fancy that and he switched off. We are just over half way
:32:23. > :32:31.through. And we have got now Marcus Ehning. Marcus Ehning, one could
:32:32. > :32:35.argue his smooth apreach with that free-flowing movement might be
:32:36. > :32:39.suited. I hope so! The only thing I would say he is very much a
:32:40. > :32:47.fast-moving blood type of horse that can eat up the ground. Marcus
:32:48. > :33:01.Ehning. He is not quite on the pace. Good
:33:02. > :33:23.turn. That was a little quicker. Ooh!
:33:24. > :33:27.Wonderful leap over that. This is the turn that Ben was so brilliant
:33:28. > :33:31.and he is a long way off and he has paid for it. Tried to sweep around
:33:32. > :33:35.the corner without ticking a -- taking a pull, but it was a very
:33:36. > :33:40.fast time. Would have gone into the lead. But one fence down. That is
:33:41. > :33:46.the interesting bit, the time is beatable. Whether it is beatable and
:33:47. > :33:52.leaving the fences up of course is the big question. Well my tip for
:33:53. > :33:58.the day very close. Not good enough, Austin! Here is the turn. Brilliant
:33:59. > :34:05.turn there, but he swung into the second last and ended up a bit too
:34:06. > :34:07.far off. There he was, tried to pick up on the stride early. It wasn't
:34:08. > :34:23.quite the one he wanted. The show has seen some wonderful
:34:24. > :34:33.sport. And we have the Grand Prix still to come tomorrow. And now
:34:34. > :34:39.Italy Emmanuel Gaudiano. Whether the word you used was blood, whether
:34:40. > :34:42.this horse has got the speed, the thoroughbred bloodlines that brings
:34:43. > :34:49.the speed, whether this horse has quite got that. He has got a ride
:34:50. > :35:00.hear the will give it 110%. No doubt about that. Still the leading time
:35:01. > :35:10.Ben Maher. He is fearless against the clock this man. He rides every
:35:11. > :35:17.stride. J zh And he got a very good turn around the corner. He is not so
:35:18. > :35:21.far away. This is very definitely in touch. If he is going to take a
:35:22. > :35:34.stride out to the last he is going for it. Got it! He has got it! He
:35:35. > :35:41.has got it. Wow! That is some ride. This boy is amazing. He is fearless.
:35:42. > :35:47.That was a fantastic round. He rode every stride and round the corner, I
:35:48. > :35:50.mean to have an eye that accurate to gallop round that corner so smooth
:35:51. > :35:55.and this horse doesn't have all the scope. He couldn't afford to take a
:35:56. > :36:09.pull anywhere. And look at him ride to the last fence. This jump off is
:36:10. > :36:28.nibble. That was - this jump off is incredible. We have jumped 11 of the
:36:29. > :36:44.17. Six to go. Now in comes last year's winner, Marco Kutscher.
:36:45. > :36:48.With Chaccorina. There is just a second and a half between the top
:36:49. > :37:05.four. There is not a lot in it. What can Marco Kutscher pull out of
:37:06. > :37:09.the hat to make it two on the trot? Well you did say they were going to
:37:10. > :37:11.get to 36 seconds, Mike, you have called that one right as well. So
:37:12. > :37:28.you're on fire today! To win this class they're going to
:37:29. > :37:34.have to get into 35 seconds, or very close. That will take some doing.
:37:35. > :37:39.Youngish horse, jumping beautifully, but a long way off the pace. Good
:37:40. > :37:47.tactics on a young horse at this stage. 40.64. That goes into
:37:48. > :38:09.seventh. Five left to go. Two of them for
:38:10. > :38:13.Great Britain. A lovely round from Marco, but he surrendered as far as
:38:14. > :38:22.the clock goes and thought he would just give his horse a nice trip
:38:23. > :38:28.around. I don't think the next one will have a trot around. She will
:38:29. > :38:46.give it everything she has. It is of course Laura Renwick. Riding this
:38:47. > :38:57.nine-year-old, still only nine. It has got stronger, Bintang 11. Can
:38:58. > :38:58.this lady pull it off? It would be a fantastic achievement if it was at
:38:59. > :39:25.all possible. She is using his big stride. Long
:39:26. > :39:29.way off the double. And that was a very difficult for him to shorten up
:39:30. > :39:36.coming out. Took the option to sweep around the corner. When the horses
:39:37. > :39:48.that are full going to the double. Good effort from Laura.
:39:49. > :39:57.At the moment, puts Laura Renwick down to ninth. Here is the turn,
:39:58. > :40:01.round the corner, ended up a long way off. Got a big, flat jump in and
:40:02. > :40:21.possible to jump out. Four left to go. Germany,
:40:22. > :40:32.Switzerland, Ireland, Britain. What an exciting World Cup this is at
:40:33. > :40:37.Olympia. Dreher, my gut feeling is he will give this a big crack. He
:40:38. > :40:46.loves the challenge against the clock. He is cool and easy, an
:40:47. > :40:51.11-year-old. Dreher only has two speeds in the jump off. He has fast
:40:52. > :40:59.and even faster! He has a big striding horse. Ooh and he tried to
:41:00. > :41:03.sweep around the corner. These riders under so much pressure. Ended
:41:04. > :41:11.up getting one extra stride. So looks like he is going to surrender.
:41:12. > :41:15.Just going and school around. With so many fast, clear rounds, icht is
:41:16. > :41:21.a tough call to know what to do. Even if you want to get in the top
:41:22. > :41:26.four you have got to go like crazy. Jumps that narrow parallel down to
:41:27. > :41:37.the last. And the last. So he finishes on 4. So that is going to
:41:38. > :41:42.put him now into ninth. Laura Renwick down into 10th. Laura has
:41:43. > :41:50.done well to get into the jump-off in this sort of company. But it is
:41:51. > :41:54.pretty tough. Tried to keep moving around the corner. It is so
:41:55. > :41:56.difficult to see your stride before you have turned up to the fence. But
:41:57. > :42:19.that what is they're up against. Three big names to come. The Olympic
:42:20. > :42:24.champion the first of them. Steve Guerdat with that Corbinian. One of
:42:25. > :42:30.several we have had in the class by this very good grey horse.
:42:31. > :42:54.Another nine-year-old. Will he put his foot to the floor?
:42:55. > :43:04.Me has taken the chance. Jumped across opt angle. -- ant angle. He
:43:05. > :43:10.might be a young horse, but he is not holding back. Brilliant turn
:43:11. > :43:17.into that double. It needs to be turning around 30 seconds. Oh and he
:43:18. > :43:22.is in lots of trouble. The horses get a bit unsighted. It shocks them,
:43:23. > :43:32.that fence off the corner. Just that bit of inexperience. Just a bit too
:43:33. > :43:38.much for this young mare. In fact he just judged it wrong and turned too
:43:39. > :43:43.tight and he was facing the wing. He ended up too much over to the left.
:43:44. > :43:47.But it was a great effort. It is a tough call for the young horses
:43:48. > :43:52.around this corner. They see it so late and you can could see she
:43:53. > :43:55.didn't know where she was going. He sorry. Didn't know where he was
:43:56. > :44:03.going. Horrible moment for Steve there. He managed to stay on. Rode
:44:04. > :44:17.the last fence with no Stirrup. We are down to the last two for the
:44:18. > :44:23.2015 World Cup here at London Olympia's grand hall. 20 years old.
:44:24. > :44:31.He has not been daunted by any big jump-offs in the past. And this
:44:32. > :44:36.horse Quiet Easy, wouldn't be regarded as one of best horses
:44:37. > :44:38.against the clock. But this man has got so much out of this horse. He
:44:39. > :44:50.will give it a go. Brilliant turn. Saw his stride
:44:51. > :44:58.around the corner. Shoulders dropped and he attacks all the way. Did
:44:59. > :45:03.everything right. Just didn't have the jump. So this young man, we knew
:45:04. > :45:11.he would give it a go. Just couldn't hold it together. Not his day. But
:45:12. > :45:20.we will hear of him in the classics in the future. No doubt. He has got
:45:21. > :45:35.to be such good news for Ireland. This guy is a rider for the future
:45:36. > :45:41.to watch and he again fearless there, didn't quite happen for him
:45:42. > :45:47.but we can be entertained by him for many, many years to come. At the
:45:48. > :45:56.moment, the Olympia World Cup qualifier is set to go to Italy.
:45:57. > :46:01.Italy's Emanuele Gaudiano, and there's one to go. A man who's been
:46:02. > :46:06.at the sharp end of the British sport for many years, he'd love to
:46:07. > :46:14.do it. Is this horse and Michael capable? On their day, it Cowan.
:46:15. > :46:21.Could be -- could be and the crowd will love it. Michael riding Viking.
:46:22. > :46:31.The horse that he produced so brilliantly. This is here and now in
:46:32. > :46:45.the Grand Hall in Olympia. Michael trying to settle Viking. A
:46:46. > :47:07.sharp, intense horse. Lovely smooth eight strides. Got
:47:08. > :47:11.close to the vertical and he's had to add an extra stride. He really
:47:12. > :47:26.needs to motor now around this corner. Viking has about 9,#50e 0
:47:27. > :47:31.jockeys with Michael at the moment. Now he's got to gap to believe last
:47:32. > :47:43.fence. Come on, Michael. 36.2! So close. Great effort. Great effort.
:47:44. > :47:48.Third place. 37. 28. Fabulous effort from Michael. He couldn't quite get
:47:49. > :47:51.the rhythm he wanted. Just had one or possibly two strides around the
:47:52. > :48:01.course more than he wanted. But into third place. Always hard on himself
:48:02. > :48:06.but gambled down to the last fence. All a bit too late because he just
:48:07. > :48:13.had one extra back down to the vertical early on. Brilliant third
:48:14. > :48:17.place for Michael Whitaker. There is the very happy Emanuele Gaudiano. He
:48:18. > :48:21.would have started at, not the quite long odds I would think, but what a
:48:22. > :48:29.competition, one of the best we've seen. And there is confirmation that
:48:30. > :48:36.Italy wins it. Emanuele Gaudiano. Then a very good second for Ben
:48:37. > :48:40.Maher, Michael Whitaker, Scot Brash then Guy Williams fifth. A tight
:48:41. > :48:46.block of riders there. Some of the big names down the line were here,
:48:47. > :48:52.Laura Renwick did well to finish 12th.
:48:53. > :48:58.There is the last page. It was a very good field. Always
:48:59. > :49:04.pretty open. But it was an absolute classic.
:49:05. > :49:11.Tremendous stuff. Well, this capacity crowd have enjoyed just
:49:12. > :49:16.scintillating show jumping. I'm delighted to say that the winner,
:49:17. > :49:21.Emanuele Gaudiano, has joined us. Congratulations, what a fantastic
:49:22. > :49:28.jump-off round you put in? Yes, my horse jumped very well. There was a
:49:29. > :49:33.lot to do in the first round and I say, OK, to win, I have to go very,
:49:34. > :49:43.very fast. And I did. You certainly did. Talk us round your jump-off?
:49:44. > :49:48.OK, I started for me, eight very long because my horse doesn't have a
:49:49. > :49:55.big canter but he's very careful. Then I started very fast. I
:49:56. > :50:08.continued. Number two was a bit bigger.
:50:09. > :50:23.I think here, first distance for the combination. There was a bit of a
:50:24. > :50:33.dip there. I didn't want to risk it. I won. It was a very strange
:50:34. > :50:36.competition today wasn't it, to have so many clears coming from that
:50:37. > :50:45.first round and then into the jump-off. You really had to try and
:50:46. > :50:49.make your own. Yes, OK, we have very good horse here, one of the most
:50:50. > :50:59.nice showing in the season and yes, I think a lot of riders think the
:51:00. > :51:05.good horse here. Yes, it was not very, very big because the ring is
:51:06. > :51:10.not too big for it but I find it very nice round, not too difficult
:51:11. > :51:13.for the horses, it's very nice. Congratulations and thank you for
:51:14. > :51:16.coming to talk to us. You've got to go and get your presentation, we'll
:51:17. > :51:20.release you, you can go and walk off, don't worry. Thank you.
:51:21. > :51:25.He's had a really strong show, because of course he won a class on
:51:26. > :51:31.Thursday as well on a different horse, he'll be going back
:51:32. > :51:35.delighted? And last weekend was leading rider in Geneva. He's on top
:51:36. > :51:39.form at the moment. Talk about commitment in his jump-off round. We
:51:40. > :51:42.always say when teaching people to ride, you have to sell it to your
:51:43. > :51:46.horse. He's won salesman of the year, he sold everything, hook, line
:51:47. > :51:50.and sinker. Totally committed. What a fantastic result for the Brits as
:51:51. > :51:58.well, four Brits in the top five? The Brits have had a good day today,
:51:59. > :52:02.you know. Strange competition, 17 clears in the first round so you
:52:03. > :52:06.knew then that the jump-off was going to be slightly different to
:52:07. > :52:14.normal, wasn't going to be too much tactical. When Guy did his round, I
:52:15. > :52:20.knew he wasn't going to do it. To end up fourth, goes to show how much
:52:21. > :52:23.faster they were. Ben Haher's round, you saw it and thought there was a
:52:24. > :52:28.bit more to come? That's right. Again, we are talking about three to
:52:29. > :52:37.five. Eight strides is the normal, Ben gets there easy and relaxed.
:52:38. > :52:44.Then he makes a nice stay. Five across the line. Dropped a stride.
:52:45. > :52:51.Look at the turn here, falling inside.
:52:52. > :53:01.Ben's really on top of his day here. Seven or eight there. I think Ben
:53:02. > :53:07.hopes to two for the seven strides there and you saw him finish. Great
:53:08. > :53:13.round. Fabulous. He showed us all how to do it properly. Interesting
:53:14. > :53:17.to have 17 clear into the jump-off and then to see some big names
:53:18. > :53:22.making mistakes but they had to try to do something to give them an edge
:53:23. > :53:27.to get into the placings. You had to do something to be a fraction
:53:28. > :53:31.closer. The problem was that it was really all about speed in the
:53:32. > :53:35.jump-off. You saw one or two riders with the horse going as fast as they
:53:36. > :53:38.could go, they were not technically fast enough to be in the first two
:53:39. > :53:42.or thee which is a bit of a shame. Normally the World Cups are a bit
:53:43. > :53:49.more about jumping ability than speed. That was a fascinating
:53:50. > :53:54.competition. The presentation is just starting. You can see the
:53:55. > :53:58.riders. Cian O'Connor is making his way into the arena in front of an
:53:59. > :54:03.absolutely packed out crowd. This is a moment where horses can get a
:54:04. > :54:09.little excited. We saw a spill from a rider on Friday night who'd gone
:54:10. > :54:15.in to collect his trophy and it went a bit wrong as the crowd got whipped
:54:16. > :54:19.up into a frenzy. Scott Brash is taking the plaudits. I know that you
:54:20. > :54:29.were talking about Michael Whitaker towards the end. Couldn't quite do
:54:30. > :54:41.it. Put in a fabulous try. A bit of a break. Ben for me was the class
:54:42. > :54:48.round of the jump-off. Full marks. Fully committed, brilliant. Emanuele
:54:49. > :54:54.Gaudiano's had a really strong show, won a class on Thursday, he's been
:54:55. > :54:58.there or thereabouts, he's one of these riders who comes over and
:54:59. > :55:03.absolutely enters just about every class. Andy Austin is here, what did
:55:04. > :55:07.you make of Emanuele Gaudiano today? I've watched him a lot and the one
:55:08. > :55:11.thing about this guy, when he goes in the ring, he wants to win. He
:55:12. > :55:15.rides every jump-off flat out lake he did today. And the horse that
:55:16. > :55:21.he's riding is not the most scopy horse. But he gets every ounce out
:55:22. > :55:26.of his horse and he totally believes he can win every class he goes in.
:55:27. > :55:30.That's his only way of operating. When he went round the corners, he
:55:31. > :55:36.didn't just sit, he said, you will take a bigger stride, you will win
:55:37. > :55:39.this class for me and I think he shows that incredible winning
:55:40. > :55:48.mentality which real champions have got and he's been doing that a lot
:55:49. > :55:51.recently. Emanuele Gaudiano moves his horse forward and we'll be
:55:52. > :56:52.hearing the National Anthem of Italy.
:56:53. > :56:59.Fantastic National Anthem and great to see Emanuele Gaudiano taking the
:57:00. > :57:02.plaudits now. I let a stick of dynamite earlier on when I asked
:57:03. > :57:07.these gentlemen about their Olympic teams. Let's start with Andy. Who
:57:08. > :57:17.would you have in your British Olympic team? Scott Brash, Ben Mahey
:57:18. > :57:21.Jess Mendoza. Clear cut decision? To me, clear argument. Tim, any
:57:22. > :57:25.argument? A few, yes, definitely because I've got a feeling there'll
:57:26. > :57:31.be one or two others vying for position. I think you've got
:57:32. > :57:37.Skelton, Williams has gone really well tonight and I've got a horse I
:57:38. > :57:40.would like to be considered as well, so my mate decided there was not a
:57:41. > :57:44.chance. We are going to have a good solid base of riders to choose from
:57:45. > :57:48.and there's a lot can happen before the Olympic Games in Rio. I suppose
:57:49. > :57:51.that's a positive, it's all about strength in-depth and that's what
:57:52. > :57:57.Britain seems to have? Yes, it's great that guys like Tim Stockdale
:57:58. > :58:03.and Nick Skelton are still out there waiting to go, why can't they do it?
:58:04. > :58:05.Well in this sport they can and they can compete against 19-year-old
:58:06. > :58:10.riders. So much sport today on the BBC. We've got the Sports
:58:11. > :58:14.Personality of the Year, as we know, at 6. 50, and, as we mentioned, all
:58:15. > :58:20.the full performance from Olympia at 6. 50, and, as we mentioned, all
:58:21. > :58:25.Prix. 6. 45 for that and we'll bring you the highlights on Wednesday at
:58:26. > :58:30.11 o'clock. What a competition we've had. It's been fast and it's been
:58:31. > :58:32.furious and I hope you enjoyed it as much as we have. Thank you very much
:58:33. > :58:34.for your company today. Bye-bye.
