:00:14. > :00:24.What a competition, my works. This horse has been exceptional. What a

:00:25. > :00:40.fabulous combination, pure class. That was easy. He is way over it.

:00:41. > :00:44.Welcome to Olympia and the London International horse show. This is

:00:45. > :00:49.backstage where tensions and hopes are- some of the worlds leading

:00:50. > :00:53.riders, but through these doors and into this magnificent hall where

:00:54. > :00:57.they will win or lose. This much loved event is one of the highlights

:00:58. > :01:05.of the Equestrian calendar and soon thousands and thousands of people

:01:06. > :01:06.will pack in here to see an eclectic mix of world-class show-jumping and

:01:07. > :02:04.festive fun. We are here in the warm up arena

:02:05. > :02:08.where you get to see all sorts of subsides because Olympia is not just

:02:09. > :02:14.about the best horses and riders in the world, you get to see all shapes

:02:15. > :02:16.and sizes and these are the spectacular Portuguese Lusitanos,

:02:17. > :02:24.who have been entertaining the crowds. It really is all shapes and

:02:25. > :02:28.sizes. This is one of the best festive days you can have but don't

:02:29. > :02:33.worry if you can't make it here, we can bring it all to you. We say an

:02:34. > :02:36.emotional farewell to a once-in-a-lifetime horse, Allegro,

:02:37. > :02:43.as Charlotte jarred and sent him home into retirement. The gold rush

:02:44. > :02:48.keeps on coming. We'll hear from Rio stars show-jumper Nick Skelton and

:02:49. > :02:57.para- dressage rider Sophie. Puissance is always a highlight

:02:58. > :03:04.here. And we have live coverage of the World Cup speaking to some of

:03:05. > :03:08.our top British riders. Delighted to say that in this noisy arena joining

:03:09. > :03:14.me for the next few hours is Tim Stockdale. Always a pleasure.

:03:15. > :03:18.Strikes me that despite the fact we have so many big shows, particularly

:03:19. > :03:23.in Europe at this time of year, Olympia retains a place in the

:03:24. > :03:28.hearts of riders, is that the case? Very much so. Serious show-jumping.

:03:29. > :03:33.A feast of fabulous things to look at with the eyes and displays. For

:03:34. > :03:38.show-jumping this is right out of the top drawer. World Cup points

:03:39. > :03:41.this afternoon, valuable final. Also for the whole winter this is the

:03:42. > :03:47.British leg of the World Cup, very serious for British riders as well.

:03:48. > :03:52.Certainly is. There is so much at Olympia. We've had Shetland is,

:03:53. > :03:57.Portuguese Lusitanos, dogs, but that is the essence of Olympia, festive

:03:58. > :04:01.madness. It's got all the ingredients from the point of view

:04:02. > :04:05.of everything from Shetland and ease, dogs, right through to

:04:06. > :04:10.top-class show-jumping. One thing and riders say, every year they come

:04:11. > :04:14.here this schedule gets better and better. You see what they are doing

:04:15. > :04:20.preparing the ground. Also from the horse's point of view. Incredible to

:04:21. > :04:23.think it was a year ago that Tim and I were standing here talking about

:04:24. > :04:31.who might make the British Olympic show-jumping team. Nick Skelton's

:04:32. > :04:34.horse had just come back from injury and yet this profit he said he would

:04:35. > :04:42.make the team. He didn't just make the team, he made the headlines.

:04:43. > :04:47.History is made in Rio. The Olympics is a special things. Olympic

:04:48. > :04:55.champion, 58-year-old Nick Skelton. I wanted to go there and prove a

:04:56. > :05:00.point. This summary was the scene for success, and Britain's Olympians

:05:01. > :05:06.and Paralympian is brought back a staggering eight individual medals.

:05:07. > :05:13.Olympia was the perfect place to honour their achievements.

:05:14. > :05:23.Been an amazing year. To get that at my age after all the injuries and

:05:24. > :05:27.stuff. Delighted and happy. How many times have you watched it back? Not

:05:28. > :05:34.as many times as you might think actually. Been sort of too busy to

:05:35. > :05:42.watch it all. I've got it all up here anyway, so it's not too bad. It

:05:43. > :05:47.really is the most incredible stories. If I'd have won it when I

:05:48. > :05:51.was 28 or 30 I probably wouldn't have appreciated it as much as what

:05:52. > :05:57.I do now so yeah, it's great. Sophie, such a tough year for EU,

:05:58. > :06:07.the horse was unwell with colic. Went there to enjoy it. I couldn't

:06:08. > :06:17.take my top horse, it was incredible out there. The nightmare turned into

:06:18. > :06:21.a fairy tale. Ben Meir. Really unlucky, just clipped the back rail.

:06:22. > :06:26.Third Olympic Games, and the first time I felt nervous. Didn't know, I

:06:27. > :06:32.was learning with the horse as we went. I felt like I got to know him

:06:33. > :06:35.by the end. I could have done something is different but he

:06:36. > :06:40.produced a clear round, and was still very strong. Unfortunately

:06:41. > :06:44.things did not go right for my team-mates either that week. Another

:06:45. > :06:47.gold Filipe sin in the equestrian dressage.

:06:48. > :06:54.When you look back, how special does it feel? Still feels really

:06:55. > :06:57.emotional to be fair. It had been eight years since I got an

:06:58. > :07:04.individual medal at the Paralympic Games. I wanted to try to win an

:07:05. > :07:11.individual gold medal. To get the silver medal on the Wednesday was

:07:12. > :07:20.genuinely phenomenal. It was literally like a dream come true. A

:07:21. > :07:25.parade of Rio medallists 2016. How special is it to get the recognition

:07:26. > :07:30.from the crowd here and be there with so many other successful

:07:31. > :07:37.writers? I think it's really important. For Paralympians to get

:07:38. > :07:43.face time in front of the crowd, because we never really get the

:07:44. > :07:49.chance when we compete. It's amazing to see how much they support us. I

:07:50. > :07:53.brought my mum and dad down as a bit of a special Christmas treat. When

:07:54. > :07:56.we were kids we had a whistle so if you were anywhere in the countryside

:07:57. > :08:03.and you heard it, you had to come running. I heard him in the box

:08:04. > :08:07.whistle away. It was very special. Yeah, really wonderful celebration.

:08:08. > :08:12.What a story for Nick Skelton and big Star, for sport in general as

:08:13. > :08:18.well. Nick has had to come over some much. He has enjoyed so much, and so

:08:19. > :08:24.has the horse. You talk about adversity. It has all been about

:08:25. > :08:30.Knox, getting back up, coming back again. Coming back from injury and

:08:31. > :08:35.having a plan and a positive attitude going forward. The Olympic

:08:36. > :08:40.games was their dream and goal. What did you make of the team situation?

:08:41. > :08:47.Nick Skelton joined by John and Michael Whittington and Ben Mabbutt

:08:48. > :08:53.did not fire. It didn't gel. On paper it looked a good team but from

:08:54. > :08:57.the start it started to breakdown. Foot in the water, horse not going

:08:58. > :09:01.as well as John had him going all year, it sort of comes to the

:09:02. > :09:06.Olympics. The thing I felt with Nick, his rounds every time got

:09:07. > :09:10.better and better. You could just that he was pulling forward, and you

:09:11. > :09:14.knew when it came down to the individual final he be fighting

:09:15. > :09:19.right at the end. I know you are not a dressage aficionado but you must

:09:20. > :09:25.admire what Sophie Christiansen achieved? When you are with her, the

:09:26. > :09:29.positivity comes through. Horses don't respond to sympathy or timid

:09:30. > :09:34.people. They don't have any airs or graces. How you are with a horse is

:09:35. > :09:38.how he responds to you. The fact she is so positive and able to do what

:09:39. > :09:43.she does with her horse you've only got to admire. She's a real fighter

:09:44. > :09:47.and she's a funny lady, intelligent lady, she has a Masters degree in

:09:48. > :09:51.maths as well. And when she gets on a horse she rides as well as anyone.

:09:52. > :09:57.Big Star was supposed to be here but the horse has taken a knock, a

:09:58. > :10:00.disappointment for the crowd. That's right, to have him here computing

:10:01. > :10:06.this week would have been brilliant, for the fans to see him. But it's

:10:07. > :10:11.the right decision. He's got an injury. If not capable of competing

:10:12. > :10:14.he should not be here parading comedies not a pantomime horse, he a

:10:15. > :10:19.proper horse. If anything was to happen and go wrong we would kick

:10:20. > :10:22.ourselves. So they made the right decision although it was a hard

:10:23. > :10:28.decisions. We have seven other Brits in the World Cup today, a strong

:10:29. > :10:32.field with 16 nationalities, their international field but the level is

:10:33. > :10:36.high. Really tough. This is the pinnacle of British show-jumping

:10:37. > :10:39.indoors this winter. You've got seven good competitors. John and

:10:40. > :10:43.Michael will be there and thereabouts. Scott and Ben will be

:10:44. > :10:47.at the sharp end. I wanted to mention Tim Wilkes, his second World

:10:48. > :10:50.Cup, he has qualified to come to Olympia for the first time so he's

:10:51. > :10:54.got all the responsibility, if you like, on his shoulders. Maybe today

:10:55. > :11:00.is one of those real milestones in his career. So we wish the best and

:11:01. > :11:04.hope it goes well. Talented rider, 21 years of age, and we wish him the

:11:05. > :11:08.best. A real breakthrough year. What will this pressure be like for him

:11:09. > :11:12.today in front of this everybody dreams at riding at Olympia. You

:11:13. > :11:17.dream but then you realise there is no hiding place. If it all goes

:11:18. > :11:21.wrong you are in front of people and there will be millions watching on

:11:22. > :11:25.TV as well. So the thing you will wish for is also daunting. It will

:11:26. > :11:28.become tentative. It's not a solitary sport, something you can do

:11:29. > :11:32.behind closed doors, its show-jumping in front of crowds with

:11:33. > :11:42.pressure. This is all part of the experience. That is why Nick's been

:11:43. > :11:46.so successful. We turn our attention to the police on switch was once an

:11:47. > :11:51.Olympic sport back in 1900, I don't think it is set for Europe turned --

:11:52. > :11:54.we turn our attention to the Puissance. It is always the night

:11:55. > :11:57.that sells at quickest when it comes to crowds and tickets. We will join

:11:58. > :12:09.the competition in the second round. COMMENTATOR: Here are the first six.

:12:10. > :12:20.Three for Great Britain, four of Great Britain, one from Ireland, one

:12:21. > :12:27.from Norway. On the second page we've got the other one from Norway.

:12:28. > :12:39.So here we go, one metre 90, six feet and three inches, Holly Smith,

:12:40. > :12:51.Quality Old Joker. This horse has got an enormous jumper.

:12:52. > :12:59.Well, just a little bit of luck, there. Holly really did hit the

:13:00. > :13:03.spot. She was very accurate, very balanced, and didn't need a lot of

:13:04. > :13:09.pace to jump the fence. Just a bit of luck. We'll have a look at the

:13:10. > :13:18.replay. This brick got quite a nudge. Bricks very light these days.

:13:19. > :13:29.But it stayed up. Just with the front legs. Very clean behind. The

:13:30. > :13:37.18-year-old now, Christopher Megahy for Ireland. His brother has won

:13:38. > :13:45.youth medals, gold medals, they are a talented family, the Megahys. A

:13:46. > :13:55.bit anxious on the way down to the wall but he gets there and makes it.

:13:56. > :14:01.This combination has won two Puissances, top three in another,

:14:02. > :14:05.they might take a lot of beating. Just look at him fighting for his

:14:06. > :14:10.head, gets it a little bit close but a tremendous effort. A lot of horses

:14:11. > :14:19.get quite strong, they know the wall is coming, they run down to it.

:14:20. > :14:21.Robert Davies based at the Skelton yard now, with Pebbles IV, this

:14:22. > :14:33.11-year-old mare. Involved with his other very good

:14:34. > :14:39.grey horse, Courtney, another good season. If he really could find a

:14:40. > :14:52.world horse he would be vying with the best. So, Rob Bevis riding this

:14:53. > :14:57.mare in her first Puissance, nice quiet canter on the way down to the

:14:58. > :15:05.wall. So accurate, Rob. Always on the button. Lovely, clean jump.

:15:06. > :15:06.Bevis not one of the favourites with this horse, but that was very

:15:07. > :15:16.comfortable. Watch this again. This course is

:15:17. > :15:22.presented as any we have seen so far. He has put his horse in the

:15:23. > :15:39.right place. Pebbles is so technical over the wall. Now Rebekka Lie

:15:40. > :15:46.Anderson. The frame goes with an enormous jump. Jumps for phone. She

:15:47. > :15:57.will have to settle him down. Gets really strong. She has done it

:15:58. > :16:05.again. It is untidy. Hit the wall on the way up. It is still standing.

:16:06. > :16:15.Got close again hit the wall on the way up. Not the prettiest jump but

:16:16. > :16:23.it is effective. One metre 90, six foot three. One of the West

:16:24. > :16:33.stallions there has been in the sport.

:16:34. > :16:40.Always jumping blood. Although this girl is regarded as the hot shot

:16:41. > :16:46.against the clock, she is more than capable. Getting strong. Still

:16:47. > :16:57.managed to jump it. A big puff of the cheeks from Laura.

:16:58. > :17:05.He is a very powerful. Had to move to the right to make room for

:17:06. > :17:13.himself. He found a little bit of space. Very quick in front. Snapped

:17:14. > :17:18.up cleanly. Laura, so good to adjusting to what she has at the

:17:19. > :17:29.time. Five through so far. Two left to jump in round two. David Murdoch

:17:30. > :17:37.the man from Sussex. With his miles on the road. The 11-year-old

:17:38. > :17:42.certainly can jump. That is so disappointing. Front legs on the

:17:43. > :17:46.back rail of the triple bar. These horses can make those sorts of

:17:47. > :17:55.mistakes. Then jumps the wall for phone. David lost both stirrups.

:17:56. > :18:03.That was hard luck. He had a hard luck story coming here. He only just

:18:04. > :18:09.got here today. Here we are. David Murdoch did nothing wrong. Just got

:18:10. > :18:15.that lazy jump with the front legs. Downey came. Nicely over the wall.

:18:16. > :18:23.David did lose his seat little bit on landing. Both stirrups went. He

:18:24. > :18:44.is out. The youngest of the Alex and family. -- Gulliksen. He has been

:18:45. > :18:50.placed with his dad. John's father could not get his tongue around the

:18:51. > :18:58.name, so he called him Jimmy. They certainly have the show-jumping bug.

:18:59. > :19:02.A very relaxed, confident approach in the last round. The same again.

:19:03. > :19:18.Beautifully done. Very neat and comfortable. Norway have got two.

:19:19. > :19:22.Britain have also got three riders through. This is a very efficient

:19:23. > :19:27.jump. If you just watch the shape over the top of the fence. Very easy

:19:28. > :19:36.to jump the big wall when they have such a neat action. That was a

:19:37. > :19:42.shame. Just the triple bar. It was probably more my fault than his. He

:19:43. > :19:47.came to it a bit casually. One of the things in puissance is it either

:19:48. > :19:54.goes right or wrong. I am pleased. He got me to my first time at

:19:55. > :20:01.Olympia at so I cannot be too upset. I believe you are not going to go

:20:02. > :20:08.again, is that right? This horse, I have been jumping her that long. It

:20:09. > :20:11.was a good class. She is not really a puissance horse, she is more than

:20:12. > :20:23.normal jumper. She jumped well hopefully that will set her up for

:20:24. > :20:28.the rest of the week. 2.6 metres, six foot seven inches. Here comes

:20:29. > :20:32.the Smith team. Harvey Smith riding the eight-year-old. We were talking

:20:33. > :20:39.about the seven-year-old Laura Rennick. This horse is not much

:20:40. > :20:44.older but it is bigger, of course. This horse really is a powerhouse.

:20:45. > :20:50.He is built to have a huge amount of scope. He is very brave. He really

:20:51. > :20:57.does try over a fence. Holly is developing into a very confident,

:20:58. > :21:06.cool customer. We are really expecting to see this all get a lot

:21:07. > :21:15.bigger tonight. Some serious power. Really good behind. The horse is

:21:16. > :21:26.really kicking. Taking her time. A little touch. It has stayed up.

:21:27. > :21:33.Being supercritical. He can be a bit quick in front. We are just having a

:21:34. > :21:37.look again. He has so much power. He jumps slightly forward but he seems

:21:38. > :21:49.to know where the wall is. He nudges the brick but not hard enough to

:21:50. > :21:54.have it down. Christopher Megahey on Seapatrick Cruise Cavalier. That is

:21:55. > :22:01.top Irish breeding. It certainly is. This horse is getting strong. Young

:22:02. > :22:09.lad Chris has to stay cool. He runs in really close. He has done it

:22:10. > :22:12.again. That horse really put the brakes on just at the right time was

:22:13. > :22:16.that that was brilliant. Watch this horse again for the bat was

:22:17. > :22:22.brilliant from this horse, Seapatrick Cruise Cavalier. A lot of

:22:23. > :22:30.the puissance horse is get so strong and excited. Threw himself into the

:22:31. > :22:48.air. -- horses get. One macro for Great Britain and one macro for

:22:49. > :22:55.Ireland. Now one for Norway. What does Rebekka Lei Anderson want to

:22:56. > :23:03.do? Was not pretty in the last round. Runs in close. Needs to keep

:23:04. > :23:12.him quiet. Running close again. How did that stay up? Unbelievable! I

:23:13. > :23:15.think the song, with a little bit of luck, comes to mind. Nothing wrong

:23:16. > :23:22.with a bit of luck. She certainly had it there. He fights for his

:23:23. > :23:40.head. Runs in way too close. That was really untidy. Gave it a real

:23:41. > :23:46.clout. Laura Renwick with the seven-year-old. Trying to join the

:23:47. > :23:52.three so far. This is an incredibly brave, powerful horse. He is strong.

:23:53. > :23:56.Fighting, running into the fence. What an incredible leap. That is the

:23:57. > :23:59.best we have seen so far. Totally clean over the wall. This horse is

:24:00. > :24:12.getting better and better. Well, this is extraordinary. He

:24:13. > :24:18.fights, runs in a little bit close. What a leap! Way over the fence!

:24:19. > :24:25.Must have given it a foot. That was brilliant. Laura, so cool, under

:24:26. > :24:36.pressure. Four through so far. This is the last in what is round three

:24:37. > :24:44.of five. It is Gulliksen from Norway. We have seen some very

:24:45. > :24:49.different horses. Some are leaping in the air and a little bit untidy.

:24:50. > :24:57.This is the economic or, technically very correct shape over the fence.

:24:58. > :25:11.So far, she has looked very comfortable. The only man left in.

:25:12. > :25:17.-- mare. That was a surprise. She looks over efficient and so

:25:18. > :25:22.comfortable. Did not get the back legs away. Very clean in front, just

:25:23. > :25:28.trailed the back leg and there it went. May have been just a bit too

:25:29. > :25:38.far off the fence. That slightly flat jump just caused the problem.

:25:39. > :25:44.How goes Gulliksen. We will hear more from him, for sure. Two from

:25:45. > :25:48.Britain, one macro from Ireland and now just the one macro from Norway.

:25:49. > :26:02.The two potential round still to come. Holly Smith with Quality Old

:26:03. > :26:08.Joke. The eight-year-old, owned by Holly. Jumped for many years. Has

:26:09. > :26:19.jumped very successfully. Recently married. The wall now foot 11. The

:26:20. > :26:27.fourth round. One more possible round. -- six foot 11. What Holly

:26:28. > :26:34.has to do now is the confident not to have too much pace for them he

:26:35. > :26:39.does tend to jump a little bit forward. Needs to trust him.

:26:40. > :26:46.Brilliantly written. She came a little bit quiet. Gave him more time

:26:47. > :26:54.to use his front end. Lovely by Holly. She gave the horse a peach of

:26:55. > :26:59.a ride. Not easy when it is seven foot to come down as cool as that.

:27:00. > :27:02.Look how quietly she sat there and trusted his ability. Actually a

:27:03. > :27:08.better jump than in the other rounds. So clean. A really

:27:09. > :27:15.impressive piece of writing. All the horses who have the scope to go, it

:27:16. > :27:28.will be this. Seapatrick Cruise Cavalier from Ireland and

:27:29. > :27:40.Christopher Megahey. Running close. Just got it. How about that! Well,

:27:41. > :27:44.well, well! That really was Berry, very lucky. Made the brick halfway

:27:45. > :27:52.across. I don't know how it stayed there but it is still there. Wait to

:27:53. > :28:10.close again. It is not pretty but he has left it up. This is not an easy

:28:11. > :28:17.horse to ride. Here is Norway's Rebekka Lie Anderson. Will she join

:28:18. > :28:24.Holly Smith and Christopher Megahey? The answer is simple. After the

:28:25. > :28:32.triple bar, catching another one out. She is retiring. Why waste the

:28:33. > :28:40.confidence and energy of the horse? A sensible decision. News that Laura

:28:41. > :28:45.Renwick will not jump. Top Dollar will not jump. It is therefore

:28:46. > :28:49.another day. I wanted to end on a good note. I thought, he jumped it

:28:50. > :28:54.so well and so easily and so confidently, I will leave it at that

:28:55. > :29:00.and then maybe next day he can come back and win it. And we are down to

:29:01. > :29:08.a two horse jump off for the fifth and final rounds.

:29:09. > :29:17.Great Britain against Ireland. It has been a battle over many years

:29:18. > :29:23.and another one tonight here at Olympia. Holly Smith to go first for

:29:24. > :29:30.Great Britain. This is the final round, remember. Seven foot one, to

:29:31. > :29:36.metres 15. The horse of the year showed puissance winner, Holly

:29:37. > :29:43.Smith, goes first. -- the horse of the year show. She was super cool in

:29:44. > :29:50.the last round. Needs to give him time to get the front legs up in the

:29:51. > :29:59.air. She has done it! Brilliantly written. Absolutely on the button.

:30:00. > :30:08.What a fantastic ride from Holly Smith! Old Joker, the

:30:09. > :30:16.eight-year-old, this horse is going to make the lady a star, I am sure.

:30:17. > :30:22.Sitting so quietly, really trusting her horse. Gives him time. She is so

:30:23. > :30:24.brave. Lets him use his ability and did not put any pressure on him at

:30:25. > :30:34.all. It was outstanding. Britain's performance manager has

:30:35. > :30:41.always thought the talents of this lady exceptional, and we are seeing

:30:42. > :30:44.it tonight. The Irish now, 18 years old, Christopher Megahy looking to

:30:45. > :30:53.try to equal the performance of Holly Smith. Ooh, he's kicked in

:30:54. > :30:58.close again, and he's jumped it. We've got two joint winners.

:30:59. > :31:05.Fantastic from the 18-year-old. What a round of jumping that was,

:31:06. > :31:10.unbelievable. Well. One of the downsides, there isn't a clear

:31:11. > :31:16.winner, but we've got two outstanding horses, two outstanding

:31:17. > :31:18.riders sharing the honours. And that is the young Irishman, Christopher

:31:19. > :31:27.Megahy joining Holly Smith that the top of the leaderboard. Well, here

:31:28. > :31:32.is the final. In equal first, Holly Smith and Ireland's Christopher

:31:33. > :31:35.Megahy, sharing the honours. Norway's Rebekka Lie Anderson

:31:36. > :31:38.finishing third, and Laura Renwick in fourth.

:31:39. > :31:45.A nice way to spend a Wednesday night? Really happy. Just came for

:31:46. > :31:49.that one class and it has paid off. I'm glad it's over but I've enjoyed

:31:50. > :31:53.every minute of it. The show is really nice, they really take care

:31:54. > :31:59.of you. Ayew old enough to drink champagne? I'm going to the bar now.

:32:00. > :32:06.COMMENTATOR: The joint winners, for Ireland 18-year-old Christopher

:32:07. > :32:14.Megahy on Seapatrick Cruise Cavalier, and Britain's Holly Smith,

:32:15. > :32:17.another British rising star. Congratulations, that was fabulous.

:32:18. > :32:22.We know you've got pedigree in the Puissance but it must be special at

:32:23. > :32:27.Olympia? It's absolutely brilliant. This is only my fourth Puissance and

:32:28. > :32:31.it's a childhood dream to jump at this show. We could see how much it

:32:32. > :32:35.meant to you when you went clear, that great fist pump, what are those

:32:36. > :32:39.emotions? It's great having the crowd, they love it and we love it

:32:40. > :32:51.and it's great. Well done, enjoy it. COMMENTATOR: So, the traditional lap

:32:52. > :32:57.of honour. The joint winners. Great, exciting young riders doing

:32:58. > :32:58.brilliant things tonight. And very inspirational for the

:32:59. > :33:06.next-generation. Wise words, there. It was a really

:33:07. > :33:09.thrilling Puissance competition. We have moved into the big arena and

:33:10. > :33:13.they are putting the final preparations on this World Cup

:33:14. > :33:17.course. They take it very seriously, you can see they are putting little

:33:18. > :33:22.bits of surgery into this water tray and dusting down the polls. This is

:33:23. > :33:27.a bit of a different course to previous years. What's it like from

:33:28. > :33:31.a course builder perspective? I know when you go to an eventing event,

:33:32. > :33:36.the course builder can put a bit of a stamp on a course, is it more

:33:37. > :33:44.limited in show-jumping? Know, all course designers have their little

:33:45. > :33:50.things. I'll let you into a secret. Today, this is his first World Cup,

:33:51. > :33:55.so at this moment in time, his heart is absolutely going 1 million miles

:33:56. > :34:00.an hour. There's a lot of things riding on his judgment today. So

:34:01. > :34:05.he's got a lot of pressure on. You see how he was giving it a bit of a

:34:06. > :34:09.roll? These are new jumps this year at Olympia, and what the writers and

:34:10. > :34:13.course designers are telling me is that they are very balanced but very

:34:14. > :34:16.delicate. Because of the brand-new machines polls rather than the

:34:17. > :34:21.felled trees that we are used to, these are very delicate. They have

:34:22. > :34:26.round plastic ends on, so one little touch and they will pot out. There's

:34:27. > :34:29.a lot of things happening this year that are really unusual and things

:34:30. > :34:33.that we don't quite know how they will pan out. Over my shoulder the

:34:34. > :34:38.crowds are starting to take their seats, this is one of the real

:34:39. > :34:46.highlights at Olympia. Seven British riders taking part and one is a

:34:47. > :34:52.crowd favourite. Heavenly lady has been in really good form. Jumped

:34:53. > :34:57.really well. So yeah, she has a good chance, fingers crossed. And in

:34:58. > :35:03.terms of competition who else should we look out for, or does that not

:35:04. > :35:09.concern you? Mark's horse is very fast, being run very well. Daniel

:35:10. > :35:15.douse it has been going very well. And yeah, listen, there's so many. I

:35:16. > :35:29.think any rider could wind to be honest. Scott had a good ride round

:35:30. > :35:31.here last year, and Michael Whitaker, we can expect big things

:35:32. > :35:34.from them. Realistically what has his year been like? He was not part

:35:35. > :35:40.of the British Olympic team. He has had to regroup and take on some

:35:41. > :35:44.other horses after an injury. Winning a talent in Calgary, so not

:35:45. > :35:47.a bad year by anybody's standards. He's got some more partnerships

:35:48. > :35:50.together and that is the thing with our sport, creating a partnership

:35:51. > :35:54.between horse and rider which you cannot do overnight. So, that

:35:55. > :35:59.transition period, but I think he has a good chance today. The horse

:36:00. > :36:04.he writes today is very careful and this is a careful track. I mentioned

:36:05. > :36:06.John Whitaker and might tour Whitaker and then mayor early and I

:36:07. > :36:16.caught up with two of them. I'm riding Viking. Chances should be

:36:17. > :36:21.good. Good year last year and before that. So hopefully I should have a

:36:22. > :36:28.good chance but you never know. What makes it special to ride here on

:36:29. > :36:32.Viking, he seems to come alive here? He does, it's a fantastic atmosphere

:36:33. > :36:37.and especially for British riders, you get a great reception. It's just

:36:38. > :36:45.everything. The horse can feel the atmosphere as well. I'm riding diva.

:36:46. > :36:50.She quite liked this arena, winning the Grand Prix here, second in the

:36:51. > :36:55.World Cup. She tends to come alive at this time of year. Hopefully

:36:56. > :37:00.going off previous results she can produce some of her best performance

:37:01. > :37:05.on this day. You need a horse that enjoys this, the crowd are so on top

:37:06. > :37:10.of the fences. Very different from what we are used to one some of the

:37:11. > :37:16.other competitions. Great feeling with up to 8000 people here willing

:37:17. > :37:19.us over every jump. And Diva is a real fighter, not necessarily the

:37:20. > :37:23.prettiest or easiest horse to watch but she's a real fighting attitude.

:37:24. > :37:37.And that's always nice to have that feeling when you go into the ring.

:37:38. > :37:41.Then, of course, second in his class here on the same course. We heard

:37:42. > :37:43.Scott Brash talking up not just about his British rivals but also

:37:44. > :37:46.about the challenges from Europe, and big names here as well. Marcus

:37:47. > :37:51.Henning as always. And a draw today will be very significant towards the

:37:52. > :37:57.end of the draw which is always the best place to be, if you like. And

:37:58. > :38:00.Steve is here today, he's having a very good week, win on Friday and

:38:01. > :38:05.was on excellent form. Gold medal winner at London. He always says,

:38:06. > :38:14.when he's in England he feels very comfortable. He is one that's going

:38:15. > :38:17.to be very close today. And Mahler has been flying, leading rider at

:38:18. > :38:23.the moment, she'll be getting a presentation shortly. Been an

:38:24. > :38:26.incredible form. Gets better and at. The more she progresses in this

:38:27. > :38:30.sport you would think, when is she going to lose the appetite to go to

:38:31. > :38:35.shows and be so competitive, and she never seems to. Every time she wants

:38:36. > :38:39.to compete. She always comes to Olympia and she loves it. And that's

:38:40. > :38:44.part and parcel of buying into this sport. Chaos will happen in a minute

:38:45. > :38:50.with the course walk so we have to keep our eyes and ears open, we may

:38:51. > :38:53.get run over. I know you've been in this arena assembly times, you've

:38:54. > :38:59.had a lot of success and one of those things was last year, 11

:39:00. > :39:03.minutes of mayhem as it's known in the industry, that is what is about

:39:04. > :39:09.to happen now. The riders are just flooding in this door now. We were

:39:10. > :39:14.in here, they weren't. We don't want to get too much in their way. You

:39:15. > :39:18.can lead is up to the first fence. All the riders have been waiting now

:39:19. > :39:21.at the entrance, it's almost like they open the floodgates and they

:39:22. > :39:26.are all trying to get their first glimpse. Remember that this was only

:39:27. > :39:30.finished about one minute ago, now getting their first glimpse in the

:39:31. > :39:40.distance. No real clue is what will happen. First fence, right at the

:39:41. > :39:46.top. Lots of people walking. For the horse, lots of things to focus on.

:39:47. > :39:53.Quite a strong first fence. One thing that strikes me, how will you

:39:54. > :40:01.come to it? Right or left rain? That is something they have to work out

:40:02. > :40:11.as they go along. Nice big gap coming through here. This is all

:40:12. > :40:15.good for the horse, nice, positive, good fence to ride, you can go right

:40:16. > :40:20.at the bottom of it. Good fence for a second one. But it's a big, wide

:40:21. > :40:26.fence. This is the World Cup, we are not going to have small jumps. He's

:40:27. > :40:33.going in! 35 riders trying to make their way round. Second fence and

:40:34. > :40:41.they will be getting wider as we go around. Now where are we off to?

:40:42. > :40:44.Number three is here, and going to cut the corner bit and try to in

:40:45. > :40:52.front. Three is right by the entrance. Before it used to be red

:40:53. > :40:55.and white, blue and white, these types of bright colours, now we are

:40:56. > :40:58.getting more Pastoral shades which create a little more of a challenge

:40:59. > :41:04.for the horses to be able to focus, and the riders. Coming off the

:41:05. > :41:10.corner, this is the first of the one metre 60 centimetre verticals.

:41:11. > :41:16.Again, I was talking about the roundness, look at the cup, very

:41:17. > :41:21.shiny brand-new, all the yellow ones are a little bit lighter. Doesn't

:41:22. > :41:25.take much to move it even whilst we are standing here, so this will take

:41:26. > :41:28.a bit of luck and an awful lot of skill. Not so much luck, the horses

:41:29. > :41:32.and riders will have to be very careful. They will have to use their

:41:33. > :41:40.technique in the best way possible. The rider hast to use their

:41:41. > :41:43.technique. So the rider has got to organise the stride pattern, get the

:41:44. > :41:49.balance and then position the horse in the right place. There's a lot of

:41:50. > :41:54.things going on, there really is. You'll see the riders walk in the

:41:55. > :41:58.distance. I'm not going to do that just yet. Lots of riders, smiling,

:41:59. > :42:06.wondering why you are walking the course with no horse. This is a big

:42:07. > :42:13.fence. Yeah. Another wide fence, but it's got the added problem of the

:42:14. > :42:17.water in the middle, fake water. The horse can look in the bottom of that

:42:18. > :42:23.and could easily make a mistake. Big gaps in the middle. It's a funny

:42:24. > :42:27.light you get in this arena during the day. We get TV lights when we

:42:28. > :42:33.are riding and that brightens it up. One other thing I want to talk about

:42:34. > :42:39.here, this is a safety cup. So if anything was to really go wrong, I'm

:42:40. > :42:47.going to do it. That will break down woods. Thanks very much. Is it that

:42:48. > :42:55.one? I think we should put that one back up. There we go, that's that.

:42:56. > :43:00.Then we've got a very big vertical, and I mean vertical jumping. This is

:43:01. > :43:04.a big vertical. Don't know if it looks narrow or just because the

:43:05. > :43:10.wings are so huge. My goodness, that is very tall. Very tall. Another

:43:11. > :43:14.clue, the horse can't distinguish how far away that is from the crowd.

:43:15. > :43:19.A lot of trust goes on, the horse will take off hoping he's not going

:43:20. > :43:23.to jump straight in the middle of row H over there. There is trust

:43:24. > :43:27.between horse and rider. A narrow sense as well. And that makes the

:43:28. > :43:31.definition of the height difficult. Especially with the types of wings,

:43:32. > :43:36.very solid, they make that look even smaller. It creates that

:43:37. > :43:41.claustrophobic sort of gap for a horse to jump through. Busy fence.

:43:42. > :43:49.Let's charge on. Breaking nothing as we go. Don't touch the flowers!

:43:50. > :43:59.There is hardly a respite, and we've got to go to this plank. These are

:44:00. > :44:06.on flat cups. Said that will not take much to go. If they breeze on

:44:07. > :44:12.it. Stop touching it. This is not just about physical power, it is

:44:13. > :44:19.been delicate, riders focusing on the top rail. Is that what makes a

:44:20. > :44:23.World Cup horse? Not just having an awful lot of scope but one with an

:44:24. > :44:29.intelligent mind? Absolutely. The old days it was about power. It was

:44:30. > :44:32.just a power oriented sport. Now the horse has to be quick, sharp,

:44:33. > :44:39.athletic, and they've got to have brains. Riders have got to make sure

:44:40. > :44:42.they are balanced as well. In the old days we saw physical rider but

:44:43. > :44:47.today you will see some looking a bit softer. This is a crucial line.

:44:48. > :44:51.I'm going to walk this distance down the centre. Just explain what this

:44:52. > :44:55.is, you have probable seen people walking in a strange way, this is

:44:56. > :45:02.then working out how many strides their horse will take. Absolutely,

:45:03. > :45:06.we will take the distance. One, too, this is where the horse will land,

:45:07. > :45:09.half a stride away. You count it from the landing. Yes, one, two,

:45:10. > :45:25.three, four, that's one stride. That is three regular strides. That

:45:26. > :45:33.is easy. It is not if you're horse is a short strider you will have to

:45:34. > :45:38.move him a little bit. If you land back or too far ahead of yourself,

:45:39. > :45:51.you will have to adjust. You have to make three. You have to do that.

:45:52. > :46:02.Double. One macro, two. By two, three. That is the equivalent of

:46:03. > :46:11.long. We will have to move a little bit out here. Can I just say, for a

:46:12. > :46:16.show-jumper, quite wide. Terrifyingly wide for me. That is a

:46:17. > :46:21.huge space between Nat, and a big fence. Not as big as they are later.

:46:22. > :46:26.But it is wide and a little bit long. This is the next bit. Bear in

:46:27. > :46:37.mind they are now going forward. The horse needs to go forward.

:46:38. > :46:49.Back down to the start. This is unbelievably short. In balance,

:46:50. > :46:57.straight back to the rider. Very tall, vertical. Difficult for them

:46:58. > :47:02.horse to focus on that. -- for the horse. Difficult to jump and

:47:03. > :47:09.unbelievably tough on the horse and rider. These fences are coming so

:47:10. > :47:12.fast and furious. If the horse and rider is not getting on at any point

:47:13. > :47:17.in this, it is going to be really tricky for them to bring it back.

:47:18. > :47:28.They have got to be a team on every single fence. The term allowed today

:47:29. > :47:32.is 64 seconds. There are 16 jumps. That is one jump every four seconds.

:47:33. > :47:37.Difficult for a person to do. Can you imagine trying to do it with a

:47:38. > :47:42.horse and rider combination? You cannot speak and it is a question of

:47:43. > :47:50.action. That the hours you spend with horses, working with them to

:47:51. > :47:53.create that partnership. Two hugely experienced riders having a chat

:47:54. > :48:01.with each other, asking each other what they think about it. Let me

:48:02. > :48:07.grab Bertram for a second. Can I have a quick word? What do you make

:48:08. > :48:15.of the course? It looks big. Some very big verticals. It is fair, so I

:48:16. > :48:20.am looking forward. Everything is really coming up vary fast.

:48:21. > :48:24.Everything needs to be working. Thank you very much. Tim, you just

:48:25. > :48:32.want to mention the combination, don't you? It is the last fence. The

:48:33. > :48:44.last fence here. Number 13 on the competition. Big, wide coming in.

:48:45. > :48:49.Not only are the horses tired. They are looking for home. This will be

:48:50. > :48:53.difficult to jump at the very end of the really tough competition. It is

:48:54. > :48:58.heading towards where they come in. They know where their stables. They

:48:59. > :49:03.know that is the end goal. If you get round this clear, you have done

:49:04. > :49:08.a pretty good job, haven't you? You certainly have. You did not get

:49:09. > :49:15.round clear for that you need to run off before security comes the

:49:16. > :49:19.atmosphere in here is incredible. We bid and emotional farewell to one of

:49:20. > :49:24.our horse heroes. Dressage does not usually make it onto the national

:49:25. > :49:32.sports pages, let alone the front pages. But that is one of the many

:49:33. > :49:41.things that led growth achieved. -- Valegro achieved. She has done it!

:49:42. > :49:49.He and his rider Charlotte du Jarre Dan have changed the face of

:49:50. > :49:56.dressage, not just in the UK, but around the world. -- Dujardin. In

:49:57. > :49:59.six championships, they won 14 medals, ten gold, including three

:50:00. > :50:08.Olympic golds and a silver. Despite winning another gold in Rio, Valegro

:50:09. > :50:14.or Blueberry as he is known at home, is being retired at his favourite

:50:15. > :50:20.show. What an incredible few months this has been. How are the emotions?

:50:21. > :50:24.They are OK at the moment. Ask me in a few hours and I am sure it would

:50:25. > :50:29.be different. What a journey I have had with this horse! Britain has had

:50:30. > :50:34.quite a few equine heroes but never won from dressage. How special is

:50:35. > :50:38.that? In the last few days some people have travelled such a long

:50:39. > :50:42.way to come and see this final retirement. That just shows how many

:50:43. > :50:48.hearts he has captured and how he has really taken the world by storm

:50:49. > :50:53.with what we have done together. In terms of what we can expect from the

:50:54. > :50:58.Valegro from tomorrow onwards, what will his legacy be?

:50:59. > :51:07.He will be talked about probably still in 100 years' time. I will be

:51:08. > :51:11.sad that the public do not see him in competition again. He has brought

:51:12. > :51:18.so much fun to the sport. We have all enjoyed as a nation really.

:51:19. > :51:22.Dressage has prospered on it. Charlotte is about to perform her

:51:23. > :51:28.freestyle test, which was good enough for gold at London 2012 says

:51:29. > :51:32.she has not ridden the test through in the last few years. Tonight she

:51:33. > :51:38.will perform it for the last time. It will be special.

:51:39. > :52:05.We need to remind ourselves that this was the pair's a first Olympic

:52:06. > :52:10.games. They won team gold but were going into new territory. This is a

:52:11. > :52:15.day full of emotion. The crowds were gathered. We all wondered whether

:52:16. > :52:20.she could really do it. Could she hold her temperament? We were pretty

:52:21. > :52:24.sure that Valegro could hold his. Together they've danced for their

:52:25. > :52:27.lives and got the individual gold medal for Great Britain. An

:52:28. > :52:31.achievement we never thought would be possible in the whole of the

:52:32. > :52:33.history of British dressage. Seeing into the future we never thought we

:52:34. > :53:40.would get gold medals. The one thing I am always drawn to

:53:41. > :53:45.with this horse is how he is concentrating on Charlotte.

:53:46. > :53:52.Listening so carefully. What separates him from normal horses is

:53:53. > :53:53.his fantastic suppleness, flexibility and power. He has it

:53:54. > :54:14.all. And, remember this was the occasion

:54:15. > :54:54.that the phrase dancing horses was born. You can see why.

:54:55. > :55:46.If you watch that, that is how to work a pirouette. She will do it on

:55:47. > :55:48.the other rain just appreciate how in time with the music that is. So

:55:49. > :56:35.rare to see that. just watch this. Control in the end

:56:36. > :56:44.of the pirouette. -- bend of the pirouette. Now I think we're coming

:56:45. > :57:00.up to his party piece, one-time changes.

:57:01. > :57:12.I think that this performance is better than he did it in London.

:57:13. > :57:26.Totally amazing. He could go out and win an Olympic gold medal tomorrow.

:57:27. > :57:38.Again, still at the end of the test, still has all the energy, activity.

:57:39. > :57:46.Amazing partnership, amazing team. Thank you, Valegro.

:57:47. > :57:55.He won gold in London in 2012. The greatest combination we have seen in

:57:56. > :57:56.living memory. Charlotte Dujardin and Valegro, they changed the rules

:57:57. > :58:06.of the game. What a spectacular farewell! The

:58:07. > :58:22.crowd adored it. What did you think? They loved her. It makes us burst as

:58:23. > :58:29.well. We all love him. Everyone feels they know and -- Valegro full

:58:30. > :58:35.study viewer at another Olympics, you would be winning another gold. I

:58:36. > :58:39.am just glad they did not make the mistake or we would have to retire

:58:40. > :58:47.him next year. You do not get a standing ovation very often and

:58:48. > :58:52.sharp intakes of breath. Do you appreciate that? The most amazing

:58:53. > :58:59.feeling, to see people up off their feet, taking in what I am feeling. I

:59:00. > :59:03.cannot see it but I can feel it. I'd just can't thank everybody enough

:59:04. > :59:10.for what they have done for us. You are the owner, bringing Valegro into

:59:11. > :59:16.the arena tonight. The crowd reception was exceptional. It was

:59:17. > :59:23.hugely emotional. To think the horses I take care of, I muck out

:59:24. > :59:27.every day. It was causing so much emotion with all these people. It

:59:28. > :59:35.really does get to you when they open their doors. It hit me really

:59:36. > :59:40.badly. A truly memorable night ended with Valegro returning to the arena

:59:41. > :59:44.to the delight of thousands of fans who had appeared from all over the

:59:45. > :00:03.world to say goodbye. A fitting sendoff for a horse like no other.

:00:04. > :00:14.Yeah, what an incredible night that was. I don't think there was a dry

:00:15. > :00:19.eye in the house. Just a privilege to be there and say goodbye to

:00:20. > :00:22.Allegro. We've got World Cup jumping, not long until that kicks

:00:23. > :00:26.off. You've spoken to some riders since the mayhem of the course will,

:00:27. > :00:32.what have they made of it? They think it's a fair challenge. It is

:00:33. > :00:36.not an easy competition or course. The only thing I would be worried

:00:37. > :00:41.about, many riders think it is a nice course, I would normally expect

:00:42. > :00:47.one or two to screen the house down that it is too big or difficult. But

:00:48. > :00:51.it may just be lulling them into a false sense of security, we'll have

:00:52. > :00:56.to wait and see. It will not take us long to find out. Mike Tucker and

:00:57. > :01:03.Andy Austin are the commentary team for the World Cup. COMMENTATOR:

:01:04. > :01:07.Let's have a look around the course, here, starting with what should be a

:01:08. > :01:13.straightforward vertical, one and two not too bad. Sweep round past

:01:14. > :01:21.the entrance, a very tall one metre 60 fence. Left-hand, difficult line

:01:22. > :01:27.on the angle over number four and probably five really forward strides

:01:28. > :01:34.into a huge oxer. Difficult upright on three. Round the corner into this

:01:35. > :01:42.straight-line with three strides, two verticals. The double is a one

:01:43. > :01:58.stride. Towards the entrance the water tray is behind the vertical,

:01:59. > :02:05.tough fence. Two Power fences now. A power test with the oxers. And no

:02:06. > :02:11.breeze for the last part. Down to the combination. Massive oxers. Two

:02:12. > :02:15.strides and a very short one stride to the last fence, 16 jumping

:02:16. > :02:24.efforts. It will all come very quickly. It's a world-class field.

:02:25. > :02:30.35 are due to start from 40 nations. We get off to a start for Britain

:02:31. > :02:52.with will funnel on Billy Onslow, one he has bred.

:02:53. > :03:00.Phillipp Weishaupt won one of the big event of the season. Edwina

:03:01. > :03:08.Tops-Alexander has been in good form this year. Four out of the top lead

:03:09. > :03:18.in the Western European. Lorenzo DeLuca is one of those. Steve

:03:19. > :03:26.Guerdat in cracking form, he's also in the top five. Peder Fredrickson,

:03:27. > :03:34.silver medallist in Rio. Of course Ben Meir who was second here last

:03:35. > :03:38.year. Laura Kraut for America, Penelope Leprevost, both world-class

:03:39. > :03:45.stars. The great John Whitaker has won here three times. -- has won

:03:46. > :03:49.here twice. Laura Renwick is in form. Bertram Allen won three cars

:03:50. > :03:55.in Stockholm and he is flying. Nicholas Villa

:03:56. > :04:05.Daniel Deusser, third in the world. Michael Whitaker has won twice.

:04:06. > :04:09.Riding Viking this time. Scott Brash, well, he's another bang in

:04:10. > :04:17.form. Third in the big Grand Prix in Geneva. This horse ran very well in

:04:18. > :04:19.other big classes in Geneva. Kevin Staut in the world top ten. Look at

:04:20. > :04:30.the three to finish. Marcus Ehning back in the world top

:04:31. > :04:36.ten with this very talented horse. And the young man for Ireland,

:04:37. > :04:40.Darren Kenny, to finish. World-class field. World-class field and very

:04:41. > :04:44.interesting course. It's not actually the biggest and widest.

:04:45. > :04:46.Some power fences but the horses will need to be super careful and

:04:47. > :05:03.really concentrate. Soap in comes the first. Some of the

:05:04. > :05:10.core statistics, 370 metres which gives us a time allowed of 64. So

:05:11. > :05:18.often that can have a big bearing on how this horse jumps. 13 numbered

:05:19. > :05:24.fences, 15 as you've heard very, very big fences. And this is

:05:25. > :05:29.Britain's probably biggest class of the year, because it is the

:05:30. > :05:36.qualifier in the Western European league which leads to the World Cup

:05:37. > :05:45.final in Omaha, Nebraska. That will be in March next year. So, first

:05:46. > :05:51.ago, William funnel on Billy Onslow, a new ten-year-old by his very good

:05:52. > :06:04.stallion, a horse that has some good form. This will be a big test for

:06:05. > :06:07.this horse. Always fascinating to watch the first rider ago, look at

:06:08. > :06:18.the distances. This is the first really tricky line. Brilliantly

:06:19. > :06:26.ridden, and then the big vertical. Lovely, fluent start here from Will.

:06:27. > :06:33.Those planks come so quickly out, on really liked cups. Shortened down to

:06:34. > :06:38.the water trays. You see Billy Onslow ran out of room. That, I

:06:39. > :06:48.think, is the toughest line on the course. Two power fences. This

:06:49. > :06:55.vertical on the angle across the arena. This young horse still

:06:56. > :07:03.developing, finding it hard. Will working very hard down the

:07:04. > :07:11.combination. Just over the time. Three down plus one time fault. 13

:07:12. > :07:18.in total for William Funnell on Billy Onslow. Winning on this horse

:07:19. > :07:21.is excellent this year. The big plank at number seven is a very

:07:22. > :07:26.light plank, it is white and the horses do not see it well. This is a

:07:27. > :07:31.really short distance. You could see Billy Onslow trying to put in a

:07:32. > :07:38.shuffle to get some balance. Time allowed will definitely play a part.

:07:39. > :07:44.To remind you, every time they are four seconds over the time allowed

:07:45. > :07:47.they get an extra point. Now one of the superstars in Swedish sport,

:07:48. > :08:15.Mallon Barney at Thomson. Currently the leading rider of the

:08:16. > :08:30.show. This horse has looked very promising with a lot of scope.

:08:31. > :08:42.Typical Swedish breeding. And it really suit is Malin's way of going,

:08:43. > :08:47.very athletic over the planks. Shortened up brilliantly. Horses do

:08:48. > :08:56.need to be so careful round discourse. That's the biggest oxer

:08:57. > :09:06.on the track, so that one is no problem for her. So just this last

:09:07. > :09:15.line. Time looks good, actually. Classic round. Second in the grand

:09:16. > :09:26.preinstall home recently. It's a horse very much on the upgrade, and

:09:27. > :09:30.that was a classic ride from Malin. On that evidence from Malin's round

:09:31. > :09:39.I think we might see quite a few clear 's. Making a fantastic shape.

:09:40. > :09:48.This horse is not the biggest. You just need a horse that is super

:09:49. > :10:00.careful. Certainly saw that from Cue Channa. Now one of a number of

:10:01. > :10:04.riders that are making their mark. Very much feel there is a generation

:10:05. > :10:15.change coming in show-jumping and this one is doing this business for

:10:16. > :10:27.Douglas Lindelow. Past World Cup winner a year ago in

:10:28. > :10:36.Stuttgart. Probably his biggest win in his career so far. Sacramento,

:10:37. > :10:44.the same sire as we have just seen Malin jump. Spent so much time in

:10:45. > :10:48.Sweden, and every other horse in Sweden seems to be bred by the same

:10:49. > :10:54.course. They are always careful jumpers, they always try. I think it

:10:55. > :10:56.suits the horses round here. Looked in the water tray, picked up in the

:10:57. > :11:11.area be well. He's got a nice, forward pace. Looks

:11:12. > :11:31.as though he's going to be OK inside that time of 64 seconds. Could be a

:11:32. > :11:36.second clear. Just inside the time. One feels that is going to play a

:11:37. > :11:42.part in this first round. Just one down, very last fence. Show-jumping

:11:43. > :11:47.is a tough sport at times. Did absolutely everything right. Coming

:11:48. > :11:51.down the combination, couldn't see this coming, but it is back towards

:11:52. > :12:03.the entrance. Sometimes the horse just loses concentration. Back in

:12:04. > :12:21.the ring a man who has been celebrating his 21st birthday this

:12:22. > :12:27.week, the Belgian rider. Road for his country in 2013, showed his

:12:28. > :12:35.skills in his very first appearance and has been doing that ever since.

:12:36. > :12:38.Second visit here, winning the Puissance last year. Probably his

:12:39. > :12:52.best performance as a finisher, second in the big Grand Prix at

:12:53. > :12:57.Mexico City. On Caracas. This lovely grey horse really does have a

:12:58. > :13:02.fantastic pedigree stop a fantastic horse.

:13:03. > :13:09.Bred to have a lot of scope and ability. Really lucky. Can't afford

:13:10. > :13:22.to hit anything as hard as that again. He's riding his luck round

:13:23. > :13:36.here. Another good rattle the water tray. This course riding well. All

:13:37. > :13:45.the distances working out. Looks as though we going to get a few clear

:13:46. > :13:50.rounds. Just the one at the moment. Ooh. It's that combination against

:13:51. > :13:53.the PLO is that going to be the key fence? And he gets a time fault.

:13:54. > :14:09.A total of five for Jos Verlooy. On Caracas. So, one clear round. For

:14:10. > :14:17.every four seconds over the time allowed its one-time fault. The time

:14:18. > :14:20.allowed being 64 seconds. Just got caught out, didn't quite make the

:14:21. > :14:28.effort to jump the middle, the nation. But so far this horse looks

:14:29. > :14:37.good. We should still see a few clear rounds. And now Philip Rosier,

:14:38. > :14:52.one of the team gold medallists from France. The French had to dig really

:14:53. > :14:59.deep, including this man. The horse had a slight injury. They were down

:15:00. > :15:07.to three in the team event in Rio. Philippe Rozier was there. Kevin

:15:08. > :15:11.Staut as well. Went really deep to win the team gold. Philippe Rozier

:15:12. > :15:44.with the horse he rode in Rio. scopy horse. Probably suited more to

:15:45. > :15:50.the outdoor arena. One thing more to remind yourself of at Olympia, it is

:15:51. > :15:56.a very small arena. With 64 seconds and 16 jumps, on average they are

:15:57. > :16:05.having to jump a fence around every four seconds. It is very intensive.

:16:06. > :16:13.He has shown his ability down the combination. Another one just over

:16:14. > :16:24.that time. Time is just beginning to play its part. That one clear round

:16:25. > :16:34.for Sweden as we have jumped five of the 35. Philippe Rozier again, the

:16:35. > :16:38.faults he had. This horse is hugely scopy. Not able to keep him

:16:39. > :16:45.carefully in front with the to fences he had down.

:16:46. > :17:02.Now the man from Austria. He jumped in Stuttgart in the World Cup. Has

:17:03. > :17:10.not jumped in to many. The first World Cup was jumped here in Olympia

:17:11. > :17:15.in 1979. In those days, the great man was the Austrian. He never won

:17:16. > :17:17.the World Cup round here but he was a world star. Austria have not had

:17:18. > :17:31.too many since then in that class. For those of you old enough to

:17:32. > :17:37.remember the great Hugo Simon, he was the most entertaining, explosive

:17:38. > :17:43.rider. He won the first World Cup back in 1979. I am not sure I can

:17:44. > :17:47.member that far back. It is a Sunday, be careful. That to the

:17:48. > :17:53.current Austrian rider. He is looking good at the moment.

:17:54. > :18:05.He lost his wisdom and balance. Did not quite keep coming. Always

:18:06. > :18:13.interesting to see what the time is like. He is going to be very close

:18:14. > :18:24.to the 64 seconds. In the end, he gets inside the time but does have

:18:25. > :18:31.that one fence down. Christian Rhomberg. That was a shame. There

:18:32. > :18:37.was a good round. For this horse it was probably one of the easier parts

:18:38. > :18:43.of the course. He is a big, scopy horse. He lost his rhythm around the

:18:44. > :18:58.course and fired at the oxer. That was hard luck. Ireland next. Ireland

:18:59. > :19:03.with a very exciting younger set of riders. I'm sure they are going to

:19:04. > :19:16.come good one day. Here is a man who is based in this country, Anthony

:19:17. > :19:33.-- Condon. He jumped in both the Rona and Lyon. Good second place is

:19:34. > :19:41.in good classes. He did a lot of work with Billy Twomey in his yard.

:19:42. > :19:47.A real talent, Anthony Condon from Ireland. Always great to watch a

:19:48. > :19:52.rider who rides with immaculate style like Anthony Condon. He always

:19:53. > :19:59.appears to be doing very little. Made up a bit of ground on that

:20:00. > :20:05.distance. Keep watching him. Technically, as a rider, he sits so

:20:06. > :20:10.well. Finding it quite tough around this course but Anthony is just

:20:11. > :20:18.going to keep nursing him round. This is great experience for this

:20:19. > :20:22.horse to jump at this level. It really is bringing home what a

:20:23. > :20:26.massive step up it is for the younger horses to go into a World

:20:27. > :20:30.Cup. A completely different course from everything else they have

:20:31. > :20:37.jumped. They need to go round a few times. This horse has the belated to

:20:38. > :20:43.come back again. Just one macro time fault. Total 13 with the three

:20:44. > :20:53.fences down. This man has jumped in a number of World Cup this year. He

:20:54. > :21:00.is going to be a big player, I feel. He has shown a bit of inexperience

:21:01. > :21:07.and a slight lack of concentration. A good horse, beautifully ridden, as

:21:08. > :21:16.always by Anthony Condon. He will benefit by the experience of jumping

:21:17. > :21:22.round. We have been talking about youth coming into this sport. Here

:21:23. > :21:30.is one in Germany making his mark in a very big way. Jumped in the

:21:31. > :21:39.Nations cup for the first time this year. He has a birthday in three

:21:40. > :21:41.days time. He has already been to North America and got into World Cup

:21:42. > :22:01.placings. Then, also, in Kentucky. As always, the sport involving new

:22:02. > :22:17.Riders coming through. A man with a lot of flair and a lot of talent.

:22:18. > :22:27.The course is not causing massive problems. Big names still to come.

:22:28. > :22:38.A big effort down the combination. Well ridden.

:22:39. > :22:48.He also gets four faults. One macro clear round. Well, Anthony, this

:22:49. > :22:52.course is proving tricky for even the best riders.

:22:53. > :23:03.Quite an inexperienced horse you have compared with some others. It

:23:04. > :23:09.is the first time at this level. He got tense and held his breath a bit.

:23:10. > :23:13.I am happy with the round. It is catching a lot of people out. How

:23:14. > :23:20.many clear rounds do you think we will have? A very high standard of

:23:21. > :23:21.riders and horses. We will probably see five or six towards the end.

:23:22. > :23:42.Thank you. Here is Philip. He rode an amazing

:23:43. > :23:51.round on an eight-year-old. It was an outstanding performance.

:23:52. > :23:56.Actually, he was originally in the team for Germany in London. Then the

:23:57. > :24:06.horse got an injury and he lost out. He is a very talented rider. He

:24:07. > :24:11.writes on a ten-year-old. He has had some very good rounds in North

:24:12. > :24:16.America, particularly Spruce Meadows, this summer. The horse has

:24:17. > :24:24.an enormous amount of power, a huge stride. He is a top jockey. He was

:24:25. > :24:34.struggling to jump the water tray. He is riding a very big scopy horse.

:24:35. > :24:39.They have to adjust. That was a tough round. He finishes with a

:24:40. > :24:57.couple down. Two down. Philip was putting his body back,

:24:58. > :25:02.trying to balance the horse. He could not get the shorter stride he

:25:03. > :25:20.needed. Again, round the same problem at the top end. 22 years

:25:21. > :25:26.old, the next. He already had been very successful, particularly in the

:25:27. > :25:36.youth competitions. Got a silver and gold. His dad wonders Olympia World

:25:37. > :25:47.Cup. -- qualifier. He was one of Germany's top riders. Actually, down

:25:48. > :25:55.here, watching his son. He has gone very well this week so far.

:25:56. > :26:01.So many show-jumping dynasty is across Europe now. We are seeing a

:26:02. > :26:07.lot of the Next Generation coming through. Here is another one. His

:26:08. > :26:14.father was and still is a top international rider.

:26:15. > :26:30.As the name suggests, his son is another famous rider. A powerful

:26:31. > :26:35.athlete. Just the type of horse you need to sit on the box, get balanced

:26:36. > :26:43.and jump the difficult line down to the water tray. Showing a lot of

:26:44. > :26:48.ambition to jump the oxer, the big fence across the top. He looked as

:26:49. > :26:56.though he has been fairly quick. He needs to get home inside 64 seconds.

:26:57. > :27:03.It is going to be very close. He has done it. Less than half a second. A

:27:04. > :27:09.second clear round. Really showing the talent that has put him as one

:27:10. > :27:16.of the exciting future stars for Germany. A second clear round for

:27:17. > :27:22.Germany, one macro. The. A great ride for Morris. This horse is

:27:23. > :27:27.really suited to this course. Very quick to get balanced. This horse

:27:28. > :27:31.watching right down the combination. Really throws himself in the air and

:27:32. > :27:40.super careful. Very happy about that. He is pretty pleased with

:27:41. > :27:47.that. So he should be. You were talking about dynasty is. Here is

:27:48. > :27:55.another one, this time a French one. The great Robert dynasty. Olivier is

:27:56. > :27:59.part of that dynasty. He had a good place in to get some points on the

:28:00. > :28:08.western European league in this World Cup. Finishing fifth. He

:28:09. > :28:12.jumped well in other rounds as well stop Madrid, Stuttgart and Helsinki

:28:13. > :28:20.that they are so competitive, just like the one we have here. The

:28:21. > :28:25.12-year-old horse. This will be fascinating to watch. We have a

:28:26. > :28:33.huge, long horse. Sticks his nose out. No martingale. Nothing in his

:28:34. > :28:37.mouth to control him. Is he going to be agile enough to shorten up and be

:28:38. > :28:53.clever down this line? Well, he'd just about managed. You

:28:54. > :29:05.heard Olivier go, we need to balance. He'd just about did it.

:29:06. > :29:14.He is absolutely flying round here. Looks like he will be well inside

:29:15. > :29:24.the time. Steady will stop he has done it. The time was one of the

:29:25. > :29:31.fastest yet. One important thing was that he leaves everything in place

:29:32. > :29:40.and France joins the clear rounds. For this horse, he is long in his

:29:41. > :29:49.body. He did really well to shorten up. A little bit lucky with the

:29:50. > :29:52.water tray. Deceptively agile. Straight down the combination. A few

:29:53. > :30:17.clear rounds starting to add up now. Based in France. Not too many

:30:18. > :30:22.world-class show-jumpers representing Finland, but they run a

:30:23. > :30:38.very good show. Lyon and Madrid more recently.

:30:39. > :30:48.Exuberant, exciting stallion to what, bred in Sweden. Excitement and

:30:49. > :31:11.enthusiasm beginning to get the better of him, there.

:31:12. > :31:19.Some seriously big names still to come towards the end of this field.

:31:20. > :31:29.Definitely going to be in for a really exciting jumper. A time

:31:30. > :31:39.pouty, one time penalty for every four seconds over the time allowed

:31:40. > :31:44.of 64. So five for Maiju Mallat. Just a little bit unlucky, really.

:31:45. > :31:51.Good round. Just tells you that there is no time to hang about round

:31:52. > :31:55.those corners. Every stride counts. One extra poll on the corner and

:31:56. > :32:10.they are into time faults. Really fine margins. Here is one they are

:32:11. > :32:23.talking about for Britain, the 24-year-old Tim Wilks. 21, already

:32:24. > :32:30.done double clear rounds in Lisbon, went and did even better. Comes from

:32:31. > :32:41.Henley. Talented sister in eventing as well. They really are two

:32:42. > :32:51.exciting young riders. That was a light falling one. Couldn't keep the

:32:52. > :32:54.balance down to the water tray. Doesn't have to win the class,

:32:55. > :33:01.doesn't have to jump clear, this is all part of his education. The first

:33:02. > :33:05.time you jump a World Cup at Olympia, it's a completely different

:33:06. > :33:10.level of competition. And what you are normally used to every week.

:33:11. > :33:18.He's a cool customer, he's kept together. Down the combination

:33:19. > :33:25.safely. We will probably hear a lot more about Tim Wilks. Certainly got

:33:26. > :33:33.some horsepower to match his talents. Yeah, good effort from Tim.

:33:34. > :33:37.Have a look at him down this line. Very late falling pole, touch

:33:38. > :33:42.behind. Couldn't keep the balance to number nine. Kept it together, kept

:33:43. > :33:51.his cool beautifully down the combination.

:33:52. > :34:11.Absolutely packed hall here at Olympia. The one rider from Spain,

:34:12. > :34:26.here. This is now Manuel Fernandez Saro, riding U Watch. Went very well

:34:27. > :34:32.at La Coruna. Spain, who certainly have been at the top table of world

:34:33. > :34:39.show-jumping. They have certainly made progress in recent years. First

:34:40. > :34:55.time they've been at an Olympic Games in the last ten or 12 years.

:34:56. > :35:03.When you watch classes carefully you start to see patterns developing.

:35:04. > :35:09.It's exactly what we thought, this course, not really about power, but

:35:10. > :35:17.carefulness, control and agility. That's exactly what I mean. Unless

:35:18. > :35:25.the horse can really quickly rebalance and jump a big oxer out of

:35:26. > :35:30.the double, it's very hard. It suits a certain type of horse. Horse that

:35:31. > :35:40.has got great deal of control and is very athletic. Been jumping well but

:35:41. > :35:44.doesn't quite make it here, last one goes as well. It ate with a time

:35:45. > :35:57.penalty as well. STUDIO: Been an incredible year for

:35:58. > :36:01.you and tell us about your round. Thought it went well but I struggled

:36:02. > :36:06.to get in my written down one of the lines. The horse jumped well. I'm

:36:07. > :36:11.still really new at this so I have a lot to learn but overall I was

:36:12. > :36:15.pleased. In terms of the crowd and atmosphere, how special was at?

:36:16. > :36:19.Amazing, my favourite show. You come here and the crowd is behind you,

:36:20. > :36:32.really special and I enjoyed it. Thanks. COMMENTATOR: From the

:36:33. > :36:42.youngest rider in the field to the most senior, it is Geir Gulliksen.

:36:43. > :36:46.He's got a talented son and daughter. His son is here, did well

:36:47. > :36:55.to finish in the top six in the Puissance. This horse was fourth in

:36:56. > :36:57.the horse of the year show. And fourth in the Grand Prix of

:36:58. > :37:19.Stockholm, very competitive affair. Edesa S Banjan is 15 years old now.

:37:20. > :37:27.Been around a long time, ridden in this competition many, many times.

:37:28. > :37:34.Finding that his horses getting a little bit excited, jumping too

:37:35. > :37:42.four. Just beginning to look like a bit of a cricket score and I think

:37:43. > :37:48.is probably going to retire. Let's just say quite a few down. When it's

:37:49. > :37:54.not your day and the horse is not quite performing, tentative at the

:37:55. > :37:56.jumps, you just have to give him a pat and come back and fight another

:37:57. > :38:16.day. Well, now. The most successful rider

:38:17. > :38:25.ever from Australia, no doubting that, Edwina Tops-Alexander. She won

:38:26. > :38:36.a World Cup qualifier here in 2008 with a lovely horse. Big winner for

:38:37. > :38:59.Edwina. Riding California, here. California, the nine-year-old.

:39:00. > :39:01.Edwina Tops-Alexander for Australia, California, jumping five World Cup

:39:02. > :39:17.rounds this year. Edwina such an experienced rider,

:39:18. > :39:29.always competitive in these crime spree. Had an un-believable number

:39:30. > :39:35.of top horses -- in these Grands Prix. You need an athletic blood

:39:36. > :39:37.type, quick to adjust. Let's see if she can sit on her hocks down this

:39:38. > :39:55.line. Beautifully done. For a little mare with not the

:39:56. > :40:05.biggest body, she is tremendously copeys. This does look like a lovely

:40:06. > :40:10.horse to watch. -- she is tremendously scopey. Inside the time

:40:11. > :40:18.and a clear round. Ridden in three Olympic Games. Went very well to

:40:19. > :40:21.finish individually known for Australia in Rio, and that looks a

:40:22. > :40:25.very exciting prospect. She's ridden some lovely horses. So many top

:40:26. > :40:32.horses but this is definitely another one. This mare, California,

:40:33. > :40:44.still only nine and still learning. Very athletic. Loads of scope, very

:40:45. > :40:50.adjustable. Really suits Edwina's way of riding.. Clear rounds for

:40:51. > :40:57.Germany, France, and now Australia. We've jumped 16 of the 35. And now

:40:58. > :41:24.to Italy with Piergiorgio Bucci. He was

:41:25. > :41:30.fourth in Oslo. Part of the biggest win for Italy in the nation 's team

:41:31. > :41:38.jumping competitions. Fantastic win in Dublin in that show fee.

:41:39. > :41:43.Certainly one of the riders together with another we will see later that

:41:44. > :41:52.carpeting Italy back on the world show-jumping map.

:41:53. > :42:01.Bred by a famous that, a fantastic stallion we have already talked

:42:02. > :42:04.about already. All these horses now really starting to come through and

:42:05. > :42:24.show that they are fantastic quality.

:42:25. > :42:39.Had to work hard to jump the big oxer. Any horse that gets here under

:42:40. > :42:48.54 seconds should be OK for time. Lovely round. That's exactly why

:42:49. > :43:00.Italy are on their way back. And this man is helping them back to the

:43:01. > :43:03.top. Yeah, lovely horse. Look at the effort this stallion makes as he

:43:04. > :43:05.jumps, put absolutely everything into it. Here he is down the

:43:06. > :43:25.combination. The Netherlands have had a good

:43:26. > :43:37.record at the World Cup in recent years. But this man, the sole

:43:38. > :43:44.representative, didn't have a good reopen, actually, Harrie Smolders,

:43:45. > :43:59.but was in that team for the Dutch. Really didn't have luck. And riding

:44:00. > :44:03.Don CHP Z. Harrie Smolders getting a very good tune out of this horse

:44:04. > :44:16.these days. Second in the Paris Masters recently. Harrie Smolders a

:44:17. > :44:22.man who really makes things happen. He's normally a very technically

:44:23. > :44:28.correct and careful jumper. Can be a little slow across the ground. Just

:44:29. > :44:31.a little slow in his action, there. It will be interesting to see if

:44:32. > :44:35.Harrie Smolders can get him inside the time because he will have to

:44:36. > :44:58.keep you moving. Doesn't naturally move that quickly.

:44:59. > :45:08.A bit sloppy over the last fence, just over the time as well. So,

:45:09. > :45:12.Harrie Smolders with Don VHP Z finishing with nine faults. Another

:45:13. > :45:27.look at him, here. Normally a technically, very correct

:45:28. > :45:40.horse. That was a lazy jump. There he is down the combination.

:45:41. > :45:57.Here is the man they all talking about from Italy. It is from Italy,

:45:58. > :46:05.Lorenzo DeLuca. He is a star. It has taken him way up the world rankings.

:46:06. > :46:12.He has already had some wins here this week. In Dublin, he won four

:46:13. > :46:18.classes. A fantastic performance, including the winning team in the

:46:19. > :46:23.Nations cup for Italy. He has also put himself up into fourth place in

:46:24. > :46:31.the Western European league for this World Cup qualifier, Al to Nebraska

:46:32. > :46:37.next March. This man is very definitely one of those looking a

:46:38. > :46:50.bright prospect for Italy. Lorenzo really has shot up to the

:46:51. > :46:58.top of the sport. He is such a stylish rider. Lots of flair. Holds

:46:59. > :47:05.his horse together. Beautiful balance. Always in this rhythm. That

:47:06. > :47:17.is why he is so fast against the clock. He is a long way off the

:47:18. > :47:24.vertical. No problem with the time whatsoever if he can jump this last

:47:25. > :47:29.combination. A clear round. He is in that sort of form he could be their

:47:30. > :47:36.one to be. Very much fancied by the bookies. Italy now with two clear

:47:37. > :47:41.rounds of the six. Two for Italy, one macro for France, one macro for

:47:42. > :47:49.Germany and one macro for Sweden. Let's have a look at Lorenzo. Lots

:47:50. > :47:54.of flair for stop horses love him. He has been winning classes left

:47:55. > :48:04.right and centre all year. He has already won some classes this week.

:48:05. > :48:11.Will it be his World Cup? Very happy with the first Olympia. No doubt

:48:12. > :48:15.about why everyone is talking about him. We promised you a world-class

:48:16. > :48:23.show-jumping and you're getting just that. The next world Olympic

:48:24. > :48:30.champion of 2012, he was fourth in Rio. He retired that wonderful horse

:48:31. > :48:41.just a week ago. He is riding this afternoon only a 10-year old mare.

:48:42. > :48:47.He has had a good win here before on the horse that won the World Cup

:48:48. > :48:52.final this last year. He has won the World Cup final these last two

:48:53. > :48:59.years, Steve Guerdat. He is one of the very best riders in the world.

:49:00. > :49:07.The Swiss rider on Bianca. Now six clear rounds. The top riders have

:49:08. > :49:14.extraordinary strength and depth in their squad.

:49:15. > :49:24.One horse was just retired and he comes out with another horse of this

:49:25. > :49:28.calibre. The anchor, unbelievably scopey and careful. Extraordinary to

:49:29. > :49:38.have a horse with that much ability. -- Bianca.

:49:39. > :49:48.He is flying round that top end. He went for it. Trying to make sure he

:49:49. > :49:56.did not get a time fault. That has cost him dearly. He is miles inside

:49:57. > :50:05.the time. Four faults. He was second in the World Cup round in Stuttgart.

:50:06. > :50:13.With Bianca, he has a fence down and does not go through to the jump.

:50:14. > :50:18.Currently lying in third place in the Western European League. Steve

:50:19. > :50:23.Guerdat was one of the names on a fantastic mare, Bianca. He trusted

:50:24. > :50:32.her to jump the vertical. Probably did not need her to go so fast. A

:50:33. > :50:38.big name, he is out. The look on his face is quite expressive, what he

:50:39. > :50:49.thought about that round. Now, one of the superstars of the sport. The

:50:50. > :50:54.Swede on his lovely horse, went through the Olympic tournament in

:50:55. > :51:08.Rio and ended up a silver medallist behind Nick Stell -- Skelton. He is

:51:09. > :51:22.another star who has bitten the dust. He is not a name that everyone

:51:23. > :51:27.knows, formerly an event rider. His performance in Rio was outstanding.

:51:28. > :51:34.He went a whole show without a fence down. This man is a top porcelain.

:51:35. > :51:47.-- horse man. He has been pretty slow around here.

:51:48. > :52:00.A couple of fences down. He will get some time faults as well. Two down.

:52:01. > :52:13.He is on nine. Sweden with just the one clear round. The very first to

:52:14. > :52:21.go. That vertical has not come down as much as we expected. Difficult to

:52:22. > :52:40.jump. Looking at the jump off course.

:52:41. > :52:51.Through to Australia with the lovely mare, California. One of the six

:52:52. > :52:54.clear rounds. Now Ben Maher, who won the World Cup round here in 2011. He

:52:55. > :53:01.won the Grand Prix here to years ago on diva. Second in the Paris

:53:02. > :53:12.Masters. They have looked in pretty good form this week.

:53:13. > :53:27.Olympia is one of the shows he does come good. Diva is not one of the

:53:28. > :53:32.easiest horses. On her day, she is absolutely brilliant. She also can

:53:33. > :53:44.lose concentration, makes life a little bit difficult for herself at

:53:45. > :53:50.times. There is one thing for sure, when Ben is hungry and trying hard,

:53:51. > :54:07.he does get a bit extra from his horses when it really matters.

:54:08. > :54:20.He was lucky. Then was a little more elevated. He wanted that and he has

:54:21. > :54:27.got it. A clear round for Britain, clear round number seven. Ben Meir

:54:28. > :54:30.was in the Olympic squad for Britain. Not the tournament to

:54:31. > :54:40.remember as a team but, my word, still as good as ever. This is what

:54:41. > :54:45.then Maher is about. He has changed the bit. Just out of the

:54:46. > :54:51.combination. He plonked the last part. A big puff of the cheeks

:54:52. > :55:08.because he thought that had come down. Here is another Olympic gold

:55:09. > :55:14.medallist. It is Laura Kraut. Partner of course of Nick Skelton

:55:15. > :55:21.for that she has had a roller-coaster summer. She has

:55:22. > :55:30.ridden so well here. The nine-year-old mare will stop this

:55:31. > :55:38.horse has looked in cracking form. A very good win, very good second at

:55:39. > :55:42.top level. This could go close. What is interesting with Laura, she could

:55:43. > :55:50.write so many different horses. She is a great technician. -- ride. That

:55:51. > :55:57.was good riding, she made it happen. The ceremony getting a little bit

:55:58. > :56:15.strong. We need to be careful. She is going to be close to the

:56:16. > :56:26.time. No, she is all right. She is OK. A beautiful round. She is a very

:56:27. > :56:32.good technician against the clock. Eight of them now and America join

:56:33. > :56:38.the party. Sweden, Germany, France, Australia. Two for Britain and one

:56:39. > :56:43.macro for the USA. This is where the top riders make a difference. Such a

:56:44. > :56:46.good a quick reaction. Get some balance and make sure she did not

:56:47. > :57:00.have the vertical down. Fantastic riding. Happy with that and so she

:57:01. > :57:04.should be. That man is only a nine-year-old was that here is the

:57:05. > :57:19.current leading lady rider in the world. Ranked ninth in the world,

:57:20. > :57:23.the French lady. Knowing her very competitive spirit she would be

:57:24. > :57:28.disappointed not to have put her part into the team medal, having had

:57:29. > :57:39.an early fall and not being able to take any further part but she was in

:57:40. > :57:44.the team. The 11-year-old man has -- Maher has been in very good form on

:57:45. > :57:51.the Antwerp Grand Prix. Second in the final in Las Vegas. She is a big

:57:52. > :58:01.time rider, Penelope LePrevost. She loves coming here.

:58:02. > :58:08.Penelope, another rider who can ride any number of horses. This is not

:58:09. > :58:16.heard top or cill. She is having to work very hard to keep the balance.

:58:17. > :58:33.-- her top horse. So, out she goes. Eight faults for

:58:34. > :58:49.France's Penelope LePrevost. There have not been too many clear

:58:50. > :58:54.rounds but you are one of them. You had to work hard for it. She was

:58:55. > :58:58.opinionated. She loves the arena and the crowd for that she gives me a

:58:59. > :59:04.hard time was that no horse fight harder than her in the ring. You

:59:05. > :59:11.have shown the others how to do it. How is the course riding? It is

:59:12. > :59:15.tough. Not the biggest course. The time is quite short. Had some luck

:59:16. > :59:19.on the last jump. I knew that was going to be a risk. Well done so

:59:20. > :59:31.far. Thank you. Now, the great John Whitaker. One it

:59:32. > :59:43.twice, 99 and Greenwich 98 and well 99. Now riding the horse he rode in

:59:44. > :59:49.Rio. By John's very high standards, not an Olympics to remember. He has

:59:50. > :59:56.had such a classic season. Big wins. Show-jumpers travel all over the

:59:57. > :00:02.world these days. He was second in the big winter horse show Grand

:00:03. > :00:11.Prix. He has shown some very good form. When coaching young riders I

:00:12. > :00:15.always talk about the John Whitaker factor. From a psychological point

:00:16. > :00:20.of view, he is very strong, no matter whether he has had a great

:00:21. > :00:22.show or not. He always believes he can jump clear, believes he will win

:00:23. > :00:31.the class. It's just amazing to have his

:00:32. > :00:37.enthusiasm into his 60s, still riding brilliantly. He's jumped a

:00:38. > :00:43.clear round. That will raise the roof here, for sure. Still no

:00:44. > :00:50.British rider more popular than this man. John Whitaker makes it two

:00:51. > :00:56.clears for Britain. Ornellaia, there. Suddenly things are looking a

:00:57. > :01:01.lot more rosy. Second British clear round. John working quite hard. You

:01:02. > :01:04.can see towards the end of the course he had to fight for it,

:01:05. > :01:14.little adjustment into the combination. Then John showed why he

:01:15. > :01:18.is still absolutely world-class. This is warming up and the crowd

:01:19. > :01:34.will love that. Now it's one of Britain's leading

:01:35. > :01:43.lady riders, Laura Renwick. New right for her. Horse that has gone

:01:44. > :01:50.very well for Yasmin Pynchon. Shortly expecting a baby, so Laura

:01:51. > :01:56.takes the ride. Goodwin earlier this week. Exciting performance with just

:01:57. > :02:00.a seven-year-old in the Puissance. This horse has shown some very good

:02:01. > :02:05.form. If the partnership can blossom I would think Laura would have a

:02:06. > :02:10.very good ride. Definitely. Brand-new partnership, as you say.

:02:11. > :02:17.Van de Vivaldi is quite opinionated, a typical stallion. Doesn't always

:02:18. > :02:22.concentrate. In this tight arena it's quite hard for him. He's jumped

:02:23. > :02:29.a lot of clear rounds that big arenas. He is a very scopey horse.

:02:30. > :02:37.Just went mentally a little bit a wall around the top end of the

:02:38. > :02:40.arena. I would say if Laura and Van de Vivaldi stayed together for a

:02:41. > :02:50.while then they could be a serious threat in a lot of grands prix and

:02:51. > :02:56.could certainly win a lot of classes. Improved as he has gone

:02:57. > :03:02.round. That's good. It's eight faults for Laura Renwick. Higher in

:03:03. > :03:05.the world rankings benches ever been before.

:03:06. > :03:18.Couple of fences in succession. The big tall fence was a bit

:03:19. > :03:21.right-handed. Shot straight through the planks but after that made a

:03:22. > :03:37.good recovery and jumped a really good round. Nine clear rounds and

:03:38. > :03:43.nine left to go. We've been talking about youngsters making a mark and

:03:44. > :03:51.nobody has made more of a Mark Bunn this man, 21 years old and he has

:03:52. > :03:56.already finished second individually in the world in France. Recently won

:03:57. > :04:04.three cars in the Stockholm International show. Cracking form,

:04:05. > :04:12.riding Molly Malone. Been very much part of his success. He has been in

:04:13. > :04:19.form here, winning the Masters here yesterday. Certainly a competition

:04:20. > :04:28.that lived up to the high standards at Olympia. Fabulous mare, British

:04:29. > :04:32.bred by Keith and Peter Doyle, I know they will be at home watching

:04:33. > :04:38.with great interest. Not so many British bred horses completing at

:04:39. > :04:44.this level. This mare has been so phenomenally successful. And Bertram

:04:45. > :04:47.Allen, the exciting star from Ireland. When he gets into the jump

:04:48. > :05:02.there's always fireworks. Well, that's one speed merchant we

:05:03. > :05:10.are not going to see in the jumpoff. That's a shame. Rather surprisingly

:05:11. > :05:18.two down for the young Irish star, Bertram Allen. STUDIO: The crowd go

:05:19. > :05:27.play easy with a clear round but I imagine you enjoyed that as well? I

:05:28. > :05:33.did. It is tough, a tight time. The competition is so good these days.

:05:34. > :05:38.They make it look easy. So what is the secret, how did you get round

:05:39. > :05:42.clear? I don't know, built up over the week. She started off a little

:05:43. > :05:46.bit spooky at the beginning of the week but she's got better. She has

:05:47. > :05:51.peaked at the right time which is good. Excellent, thank you.

:05:52. > :05:54.COMMENTATOR: Delighted to have one of the very successful twins from

:05:55. > :06:17.Belgium, Nicola Philip Hobbs. -- Nicola Philippaerts. Had a great

:06:18. > :06:20.autumn, triumphed in the big Grand Prix out in America in October. This

:06:21. > :06:49.is a really strong partnership, riding H Harley VD Bisschop. Great

:06:50. > :06:54.grey gelding. Very talented. Flying round that corner, keeping a vary

:06:55. > :07:05.strong rhythm. Really doesn't want to get time faults, here.

:07:06. > :07:18.He's done it. Clear round number ten goes to Belgium, another nation now

:07:19. > :07:25.joins the party. And this is definitely a combination that are

:07:26. > :07:34.bang in form. Beautifully judged, kept his rhythm round the corner.

:07:35. > :07:35.And this young horse, massively scoping and powerful, super careful

:07:36. > :08:03.as well. Now it is the world number three.

:08:04. > :08:06.Daniel Deusser, remember they have already got one of the stable

:08:07. > :08:21.jockeys through to the ten that are through. Lovely, smooth win here

:08:22. > :08:33.earlier. He's also been a winner in Lyon. Really classy winner of the

:08:34. > :08:36.champions tour in Doha. Probably one of the most classic Orson and there

:08:37. > :08:43.is on the circuit. He's lovely to watch, Daniel do so. He and Lorenzo

:08:44. > :08:48.Toluca got the dream job, riding for these stables, buying up top horses.

:08:49. > :09:11.And they've got real strength in depth in horse power.

:09:12. > :09:24.Just took his time into that corner. He should make the time but it's

:09:25. > :09:28.going to be close. Ooh, I was just going to say he looks like hitting a

:09:29. > :09:35.fence and he knocked the last one hard but it stayed. So he is safely

:09:36. > :09:48.through. So he joins his colleague now. Beautifully judged round from

:09:49. > :09:54.Daniel do so. Supercool, he had it all covered. Another top rider with

:09:55. > :10:01.a really good horse into the jumpoff stop white yeah, it's looking

:10:02. > :10:02.exciting. Daniel, part of the bronze medal team for Germany in those Rio

:10:03. > :10:16.games. From one rider who rode in Rio to

:10:17. > :10:24.another, Michael Whittaker. Riding Viking. Horse at his very best up

:10:25. > :10:33.with the best. Part of that European Championship team win, European

:10:34. > :10:38.title in 2013. Hasn't hit the high spots here at Olympia yet but he's

:10:39. > :10:44.always a man who could pop out something. Remember brother John is

:10:45. > :10:54.already through. He has also won this title twice. As far back as

:10:55. > :11:00.1993. Then again in 2010. But it's not going to be in 2016. Yeah, it's

:11:01. > :11:05.tough for Michael because Viking likes to jump at a slightly slower

:11:06. > :11:09.pace. Michael had no choice but to keep rolling round those corners

:11:10. > :11:18.early on. You could see the fences coming down. Viking, on his stay, is

:11:19. > :11:23.an absolutely brilliant horse. He's actually got a little bit calmer. He

:11:24. > :11:34.is 14 years old now. He used to be sharp but as he has got older he has

:11:35. > :11:40.become more rideable. Two down for Michael Whitaker and Viking. So it's

:11:41. > :11:46.eight. Meanwhile that dynasty is going to go on, the Whitakers,

:11:47. > :11:50.because his son Jack is a very good young rider at 14. Second in the

:11:51. > :11:57.under 23 championship earlier this week. Michael kept rolling round the

:11:58. > :12:01.corner, he had no choice if he wanted to get inside the time.

:12:02. > :12:11.Viking just likes to have a little more time to jump those verticals.

:12:12. > :12:18.Five left to jump in this first round of the World Cup round here in

:12:19. > :12:20.London. And here comes Britain's gold medallist from the 2012

:12:21. > :12:47.Olympics, it is Scott Brash. Been back to form. Had some time off

:12:48. > :12:51.through injury. Ursula came back to form, third last week in Geneva. But

:12:52. > :12:59.this is also a horse that has shown great form, Hello M'Lady. Went very

:13:00. > :13:07.well in Geneva. And his optimistic that the mare is coming back to form

:13:08. > :13:13.at the right time. This mare not the biggest.

:13:14. > :13:29.The horse has a lot of blood. She is very scopey, very explosive off the

:13:30. > :13:35.floor. Over the last few years watching Scott it's been an absolute

:13:36. > :13:43.privilege to see the way he performs under incredible pressure. Those

:13:44. > :13:54.massive big money grands prix, he seems to keep coming up trumps when

:13:55. > :13:57.it matters. Down to the last line. He's flying round here. He's got

:13:58. > :14:11.absolutely no problem with time allowed. Ooh, classic Scott Brash.

:14:12. > :14:15.The crowd will love that. His horses just worked in form for the Olympic

:14:16. > :14:22.Games but he's certainly come back to form since then. And Hello M'Lady

:14:23. > :14:28.gives us clear round number 12. Two for Great Britain, three for Great

:14:29. > :14:32.Britain in the 12 currently through to the jumpoff. One thing is

:14:33. > :14:38.absolutely for sure. Hello M'Lady really in the comfort zone. That

:14:39. > :14:40.really looked like a stroll in the park for Scott Brash and all the

:14:41. > :14:42.other riders in the jumpoff would not want to see him there because

:14:43. > :14:54.he's going to be flying. No doubt that Scott himself is

:14:55. > :14:59.riding so confidently. He's going to have a good draw but there are still

:15:00. > :15:09.four to go. They are four world-class riders now. France's

:15:10. > :15:20.Kevin Staut. Olympic gold in Rio, riding and Aran. This 11-year-old,

:15:21. > :15:26.in the world's top ten, and has been in cracking form in recent weeks.

:15:27. > :15:36.Hasn't actually shown that form here as yet. Jumped in six rounds in all.

:15:37. > :15:42.Kevin another rider with terrific backing. Huge string of horses. This

:15:43. > :15:47.one that we haven't seen too much of just struggling a little bit. So

:15:48. > :15:53.that's another big-name rider we are not going to see in the jumpoff.

:15:54. > :16:07.Still some very good riders to come. All big names and all capable of

:16:08. > :16:11.jumping clear. Whatever happens, there are ten, 11 maybe 12 clear

:16:12. > :16:18.rounds now. A real international flavour to it as well. Eight also

:16:19. > :16:23.nations at least. Whilst we are talking about that, Kevin is taking

:16:24. > :16:37.his time he is coming round again. It has not been his day. It happens

:16:38. > :16:42.to even the best. All 17, the biggest school we have had, for one

:16:43. > :16:53.of the top stars. And Olympic team gold medallist as well. Three to go.

:16:54. > :16:59.France have got just one represented at the moment, Olivier Robert.

:17:00. > :17:07.Sweden, Germany, France, Australia, two for Italy, three for Britain and

:17:08. > :17:16.one for America, one for Belgium. In fact, Germany have got two chances.

:17:17. > :17:28.Looking up at the clock, we all have a countdown. They need to start

:17:29. > :17:38.within 45 seconds of the bell going. He won individual bronze in London.

:17:39. > :17:47.H Amendola 's performance from Cian. -- a tremendous performance.

:17:48. > :17:55.Quite an interesting jump. A couple of big names, having fences down. We

:17:56. > :18:07.are losing them. Still plenty of big names in there. There are plenty of

:18:08. > :18:13.big names in there. Cian is another interesting rider. He is not afraid

:18:14. > :18:17.to go out and look for new talent. I think nowadays, all the riders are

:18:18. > :18:21.successful week in and week out. They have to have a big string of

:18:22. > :18:35.horses. These horses cannot jump at this level every week.

:18:36. > :18:45.Punches the last to out. Ends up with a time fault as well. He has

:18:46. > :18:53.won a Grand Prix here but never the World Cup round for Dubya will not

:18:54. > :18:57.do that in 2016 either. He has a big bridle but it is not really helping.

:18:58. > :19:14.Running through the bridal down the combination. Not careful at all.

:19:15. > :19:21.Now, and Olympic gold medallist, three-time winner of the World Cup

:19:22. > :19:34.title. The very stylish and very successful Marcus Ning. -- Ehning.

:19:35. > :19:43.One of the best stallions show-jumping in the world.

:19:44. > :19:49.He has been in tremendous form. He won in Madrid and was second in Oslo

:19:50. > :20:01.put up he had shown his glass here this week. -- he has shown his class

:20:02. > :20:17.here. The second last to go in this round. He is a cheeky stallion.

:20:18. > :20:29.Marcus Ehning has such silky, smooth hands. He hardly moves. One of the

:20:30. > :20:34.most extraordinary talents in the world of show-jumping. He is

:20:35. > :20:49.motoring around, using a bit of pace. He loves to back through the

:20:50. > :20:53.corners. Well! Amazingly enough he has won virtually every competition

:20:54. > :20:58.there is to be won at Olympia but never the World Cup here at Olympia.

:20:59. > :21:09.Scott keeping a clean eye on Marcus Ehning. You must be delighted with

:21:10. > :21:14.that round. She felt really good. She has been in great form lately. I

:21:15. > :21:19.thought she jumped just as good today. I am thrilled with her. What

:21:20. > :21:28.will the tactics being for the jump off? You do not have a bad draw. It

:21:29. > :21:33.will be fast. It will be a fast one. We will just have to try to get it

:21:34. > :21:39.right and hope the rest are not as fast as us. Good luck.

:21:40. > :21:56.The last potential challenge for Scott brash is the young Irishman,

:21:57. > :22:00.Daragh Kenny. Here is a man who does highlight that show-jumping now is

:22:01. > :22:07.literally a world competition. This man flies across it. He is based in

:22:08. > :22:13.Florida. Also in Europe. He certainly is one of the names that

:22:14. > :22:18.the Irish show-jumping selectors will be looking for in the future.

:22:19. > :22:23.Daragh Kenny won the Barcelona Grand Prix, his first ever five star Grand

:22:24. > :22:26.Prix. He has jumped in four rounds of the World Cup. Charlie Chaplin

:22:27. > :22:39.has been a very good win for him. Daragh Kenny is stylish. He is

:22:40. > :22:43.effective and has a great temperament. As you say, his form

:22:44. > :22:53.this year has been outstanding. He shot right up to the top of the

:22:54. > :22:57.sport. Just watch his style as he comes round back corner. Great

:22:58. > :23:04.rhythm, a fantastic eye for a stride.

:23:05. > :23:18.At the moment, Ireland without a clear round. That was hard luck. He

:23:19. > :23:26.has gone. Ironically, they are going to stay without that clear round.

:23:27. > :23:30.That was unlucky. It looked to have been a possibility but eight is the

:23:31. > :23:40.total in the end. Out goes Daragh Kenny. In the end, 13 go through.

:23:41. > :23:47.Just having another look at Daragh Kenny. He was a little bit forward,

:23:48. > :23:53.maybe, a touch forwards into the combination. Just slightly flattened

:23:54. > :24:00.over the last two. His chance has gone. We certainly have got a big

:24:01. > :24:03.jump off, big names, fast horses. The last two to go, Scott Brash and

:24:04. > :24:20.Marcus Ehning, two of the very best. France have just the one, Olivier

:24:21. > :24:36.Robert. The lovely Californian. Two for Italy. Du Aluko could be the one

:24:37. > :24:44.to watch. -- De Luca could be there one to watch. A good ending for

:24:45. > :24:50.Scott Brash with Marcus Ehning the last to go.

:24:51. > :24:56.A lot of big names have gone out. But polls felt around the course. I

:24:57. > :25:03.know there was a fence you want to talk about that caused some problems

:25:04. > :25:12.but also will possibly cause problems in the jump. I noticed a

:25:13. > :25:17.couple of riders, when they turn the corner, anticipating where he is

:25:18. > :25:21.going. As you see, he thinks about the turn before he is jumping the

:25:22. > :25:28.fence. Where this will be important in the jump off, that is the second

:25:29. > :25:32.to last fence. As they turned back towards home, the horse will

:25:33. > :25:37.anticipate that and I can see him battling it. That could be very

:25:38. > :25:41.significant. Not just the last jump but the one at the very top. When

:25:42. > :25:47.that goes up it could be really tricky. When you sprint into offence

:25:48. > :25:54.like back, how do you approach it? What you must try to do is see the

:25:55. > :25:57.turn a little bit late. As a rider think, we're not going to go on that

:25:58. > :26:02.one and support the horse in the balance of if you let them know they

:26:03. > :26:06.are going to early, they will fall in and you and you will be lost. You

:26:07. > :26:12.will bluff it a bit with your body. You must try to stay balanced and

:26:13. > :26:16.give the horse every opportunity. Out of the 13, who do you think has

:26:17. > :26:26.this one? I think it will come from the end. I know it is safe but it is

:26:27. > :26:30.that type of jump. All sorts of things go on back here. Tim

:26:31. > :26:34.Stockdale led his glasses to John Whitaker to have a look at the jump

:26:35. > :26:38.of course. We will find out if they have the same production or not in

:26:39. > :26:43.just a moment. We will take you around the jump of course.

:26:44. > :26:52.All the fence is not being jumped had been cleared. Out of numbered

:26:53. > :26:59.two and the type turn. Five strides to the big boxer water tray.

:27:00. > :27:05.Sweeping into the double, you've got to make the decision how fast you

:27:06. > :27:18.take that on. You must be careful jumping in. The big gallop round to

:27:19. > :27:22.this oxer. That vertical will be really influential. Go down to the

:27:23. > :27:32.middle of the combination. You can gamble if you want to. 13 through.

:27:33. > :27:37.They come from Sweden, they come from Germany, France, Australia,

:27:38. > :27:52.Italy, Britain, America and Belgium. So, it is very international. Those

:27:53. > :27:59.are very serious looking first competitor on this ten-year-old

:28:00. > :28:04.mare. The competition being 114 times by Britain, nine times by

:28:05. > :28:09.Germany, Netherlands five, France have won it twice, Ireland have won

:28:10. > :28:26.it twice. In fact, the winner last year was Italian.

:28:27. > :28:38.There is a real buzz in this crowd. That is not surprising when you have

:28:39. > :28:42.got Ben Maher, John Whitaker and Scott Brash all the way through.

:28:43. > :28:52.Britain in with a fighting chance but it will be tough. Always

:28:53. > :28:59.interesting to have so many riders. At the beginning they have no choice

:29:00. > :29:09.but to go flat out. They make mistakes. Not a few are Nick

:29:10. > :29:18.Skelton. That is true. -- not if you are Nick Skelton.

:29:19. > :29:33.Such a big influence on the sport. Particularly for the show-jumping

:29:34. > :29:48.sport of Qatar in the world. Now, incomes Malin Bala Johnson. A

:29:49. > :29:57.reminder for those in the jump off, two in the top five of the Western

:29:58. > :29:59.European League include Marcus Ehning. Plenty will be trying to

:30:00. > :30:13.upset them. As many of you Manuel Neuer, Malin

:30:14. > :30:16.Baryard-Johnsson came over as a teenager, spent time with Tom

:30:17. > :30:30.Whitaker -- as many of you may well know. Loves coming to Britain.

:30:31. > :30:34.Always pays a huge respect to what John and the Whitakers did for her.

:30:35. > :30:42.So, Malin Baryard-Johnsson to go first with Cue Channa for Sweden. So

:30:43. > :30:49.here is first really difficult turn, got to gamble, there. You have to go

:30:50. > :30:58.five level strides, there's not much else you can do. Quite a twisty

:30:59. > :31:07.turn. The double. And once you get here you can start galloping. Six

:31:08. > :31:12.strides there. Whether they will in fact be able to take one out, we'll

:31:13. > :31:17.see. Super careful over that vertical. This is not the fastest

:31:18. > :31:23.round but is it clear? No it isn't, what a shame. Looked to be a

:31:24. > :31:31.tactically sound round. Just that last fence caught her out. Long Way

:31:32. > :31:39.down to the last fence. With that one fence, the very last, down.

:31:40. > :31:42.Malin did absolutely everything right, kept it tight and took no

:31:43. > :31:48.crazy risks anywhere. She looked to have a good stride towards home.

:31:49. > :31:59.Horses can get a little bit strong. That's what happened. Well, it's an

:32:00. > :32:04.exciting horse. She is a super sporting star in Sweden, Malin. I

:32:05. > :32:11.wonder whether this man is going to be a superstar for Germany.

:32:12. > :32:19.Generations could be changing in Germany just as much as any other

:32:20. > :32:28.country. This man could be part of it, Maurice Tebbel. Only a

:32:29. > :32:39.nine-year-old, Chacco's Son. Very exciting stallion, but he has an

:32:40. > :32:43.opinion all of his own. Nice tight turn, but another one trying to push

:32:44. > :32:50.to the limit, fence coming down as we often see with these big jump

:32:51. > :32:58.offs. Early riders under intense pressure having fences down. The

:32:59. > :33:09.later riders will know what they have got to do to win. Plays safe at

:33:10. > :33:15.the last and jumped it. Eight the Maurice Tebbel. Slower time and two

:33:16. > :33:26.down as well. Just ended up a little bit too

:33:27. > :33:34.close, had an argument on the corner coming into the double. And that

:33:35. > :33:38.oxer is a huge fence. Remember these combinations are going flat out

:33:39. > :33:47.against the clock, very big fences. They certainly are. Well, France to

:33:48. > :33:53.come next. France have a natural way of going, many of their riders love

:33:54. > :34:05.to flow, they love to push it, often comes to its best in the jumpoff of

:34:06. > :34:14.a major competition. Will it be the case for Maurice Tebbel with the

:34:15. > :34:15.12-year-old, Quenelle? Second to go of the 13 we've got coming forward

:34:16. > :34:32.for this final round. Got to work out his tactics, is he

:34:33. > :34:35.going to put the pressure on or go flat out? Difficult horse, difficult

:34:36. > :34:48.to turn. He's keeping it tight enough without

:34:49. > :35:11.taking too many chances. That was the fence Tim said would

:35:12. > :35:16.come down. Nowhere near jumping it. Interestingly enough Olivier Robert

:35:17. > :35:26.went for the slower, clear round. Of course that then puts him way out of

:35:27. > :35:30.contention. The Olivier Robert, four in 41. He tried to do the right

:35:31. > :35:36.thing, this horse is not naturally quick, difficult to manoeuvre. He

:35:37. > :35:40.did go for the steady clear. The big vertical at the top end will always

:35:41. > :35:52.take a lot of jumping. They try to anticipate the turn. It's a very

:35:53. > :36:01.tall vertical. Well now the challenge from Australia, what will

:36:02. > :36:07.be her policy? Not a vast lead experienced horse, this

:36:08. > :36:20.nine-year-old mare. Classic first-round. Mallon Barry Johnson

:36:21. > :36:28.top of the leaderboard. -- Malin Baryard-Johnsson. Fascinating

:36:29. > :36:33.tactical situation now. Just taking her time on the Younger horse,

:36:34. > :36:37.Edwina. With no clear rounds, probably a very good idea. Now she's

:36:38. > :36:47.had a fence as well and she started off slowly. It's extraordinary how

:36:48. > :36:59.these jumpoffs with so many riders often don't get double clears. This

:37:00. > :37:05.mare just nine years old. The difficult vertical again. This

:37:06. > :37:13.jumpoff is really proving difficult with no clear rounds. Eight faults,

:37:14. > :37:20.43.90 seven. Remember she won in 2008 with a lovely horse. This mare

:37:21. > :37:25.will be winning, I have no doubt about that, but it's not this

:37:26. > :37:28.afternoon. I'm sure when Malin Baryard-Johnsson came in first to go

:37:29. > :37:31.and had a fence down she did not think after four or five horses had

:37:32. > :37:33.gone that she would still be in the lead but at the moment she is out in

:37:34. > :37:55.front. Now the next two of Italy, the first

:37:56. > :38:04.is Piergiorgio Bucci with Casallo Z. Italy, remember, the country that

:38:05. > :38:07.won this competition year ago. Certainly got a couple of chances

:38:08. > :38:11.that are worthy. Look at back for a turn, this is a much more

:38:12. > :38:16.experienced horse, he's having a real go here. This is what we wanted

:38:17. > :38:24.to see, keeping it very tight. Brilliantly over the double. Well,

:38:25. > :38:29.he's not taking any prisoners here. But he's messed it all up. He tried

:38:30. > :38:34.to swing it to that oxer. In all sorts of trouble at the next one. We

:38:35. > :38:40.are not getting those clear rounds. I think it's the pressure of those

:38:41. > :38:42.big guns to come later. When you've got Scott Brash breathing down your

:38:43. > :38:51.neck this is what happens. You pay for it. Full marks for having a

:38:52. > :39:01.really good go. 41.59, certainly very close in the 41 second margin.

:39:02. > :39:06.Top three all on 41 point something. But Malin Baryard-Johnsson is

:39:07. > :39:12.leading. Olivier Robert is second. And Piergiorgio Bucci goes third.

:39:13. > :39:19.Piergiorgio started so well, gave it absolutely everything. Couldn't find

:39:20. > :39:26.his stride back to the big oxer. Well, now. One that many may feel

:39:27. > :39:40.could be the one they've all got to beat. Lorenzo DeLuca. Limestone

:39:41. > :39:46.Grey, a ten-year-old. He will know as well as any, there are some very

:39:47. > :39:53.fast combinations still to come in this

:39:54. > :40:05.What we've come to expect from Lorenzo, you will not be going for

:40:06. > :40:15.second place. Absolutely on it, there.

:40:16. > :40:37.Well, a little bit slow going to the double. Still no clears.

:40:38. > :40:49.Still fast enough with that one fence down to take the lead. Six

:40:50. > :40:54.gone of the 13. This competition is wide open. Lorenzo de Luca showing

:40:55. > :40:58.his class over the first couple of fences. The stride he had into the

:40:59. > :41:13.double wasn't quite the one he wanted. But he's into the lead at

:41:14. > :41:16.this stage. The bell goes in the ring. Won it in 2011 with his

:41:17. > :41:37.Olympic gold medal. Ben Maher now. Got some of their

:41:38. > :41:48.better results in this arena. Can we count on afternoon? Ben Maher,

:41:49. > :42:03.another rider who will not be going for second place.

:42:04. > :42:19.Here is the crucial to. That was the stride you want in, he gave himself

:42:20. > :42:30.enough room. This is quicker. Ooh, dear. Ooh, he's living dangerously.

:42:31. > :42:37.But he's gone clear, he's got the last. It's the fastest times so far

:42:38. > :42:44.and it's clear. And that's what matters. He has got to sit and wait,

:42:45. > :42:53.now. He's far from safe, that is for sure. But he has really put down a

:42:54. > :42:59.marker, here. How that oxer stayed up we don't know. But you need a bit

:43:00. > :43:05.of luck in show-jumping. Brilliant stride into the double. All the way

:43:06. > :43:10.round the corner, perfect stride. Diva showing perfect scope.

:43:11. > :43:15.Absolutely clattered that back rail, how it stayed there I don't know.

:43:16. > :43:26.He's clear and he's got a quick time. Wonderful. And that really has

:43:27. > :43:30.animated this crowd. But it's far, far from over because now the

:43:31. > :43:38.challenge for America, it is Laura Kraut. She is a super jockey against

:43:39. > :43:46.the clock. Wouldn't be the most experienced of horses, only a

:43:47. > :43:56.nine-year-old. But this lady has shown us why she is one of the best

:43:57. > :44:01.lady riders in the world this week. 38.85 is the time they are

:44:02. > :44:17.challenging. Difficult to know where you can shave any time off Ben's

:44:18. > :44:21.round. That was the same stride Ben Maher had. Can they gallop around

:44:22. > :44:27.this corner is a bit quicker? I don't know.

:44:28. > :44:35.On a very acute angle, brilliantly done. She's in touch and I think she

:44:36. > :44:42.could possibly do it. It's close. Very close but it's Ben Maher who

:44:43. > :44:47.stays in front. I wonder where Nick Skelton is watching this from.

:44:48. > :44:55.Remember he has an important date to night. Laura Kraut goes second,

:44:56. > :45:02.showing all her skills. Fantastic round. Just down to the last fence,

:45:03. > :45:11.she wanted to make sure she was in touch here. A little tricky over

:45:12. > :45:15.that vertical but she steadied up to make sure of the last fence. Extra

:45:16. > :45:22.half a second puts her into second place.

:45:23. > :45:31.Still to come two for Great Britain, one macro for Belgium and two for

:45:32. > :45:39.Germany. It is game on for the World Cup round here in the grand Hall.

:45:40. > :45:48.What about this man? What magic can he produce this afternoon? John

:45:49. > :45:49.Whitaker, 98 and 99, two years when this man won back-to-back cups in

:45:50. > :45:57.this arena. The times set by Ben Maher is the

:45:58. > :46:30.one to beat. Come on, John! A good turn. He will

:46:31. > :46:35.have to up the pace down to the last fence. This is not too far away.

:46:36. > :46:52.Gamble it, John. What an effort! 39.70. It goes

:46:53. > :47:00.third, behind Laura Kraut. A great effort from this great campaigner.

:47:01. > :47:06.39.70 four John Whitaker. The old magic is still levelled he could not

:47:07. > :47:11.quite cover the ground with as big a stride as Diva but that was

:47:12. > :47:18.beautifully judged. John gave it everything.

:47:19. > :47:31.Well, we'll Tim Stockdale call this one right? He said it would come

:47:32. > :47:37.late. Certainly, those that are left are the four competitors and their

:47:38. > :47:49.current form. He won a very valuable Grand Prix

:47:50. > :47:56.out in America. Can he now winless crucial World Cup round here in

:47:57. > :48:06.London? -- win this crucial World Cup round? I think if he is still

:48:07. > :48:11.clear to the last, he can take a stride out with this massive

:48:12. > :48:18.striding horse. Dad won this back in 1988. He is here. This is really

:48:19. > :48:23.quick. He is going to take one macro out.

:48:24. > :48:36.Not quite. Not quite. I thought he was cruising. Not quite. 39.0 seven.

:48:37. > :48:44.I think he will be kicking himself. He goes second. It is now Britain,

:48:45. > :48:49.Belgium, America. He looked as though he nailed it. He could not

:48:50. > :48:54.quite keep the pace may be around the vertical. So tight back to the

:48:55. > :49:00.second fence in the jump. Spent a lot of time in the air for the baby

:49:01. > :49:05.that is where he lost it. What an exciting horse this is! It may not

:49:06. > :49:21.be today but it could be a very big winner at some stage. Then Maher

:49:22. > :49:32.still leads -- Ben. The league winner is the German. This man has

:49:33. > :49:40.done the business, was on the bronze medal team in Rio. He won out in

:49:41. > :49:41.Doha. He won in Los Angeles. Is he going to win this afternoon in

:49:42. > :50:00.London? He is too close. Had the extra

:50:01. > :50:10.stride of that corner. Another big name is going. Then Maher has really

:50:11. > :50:15.put these riders on the line, hasn't he? There is no room for any errors

:50:16. > :50:22.anywhere. They have to come round the corner of the double and see

:50:23. > :50:29.almost before they turned. Two down for Daniel Deusser. That time of

:50:30. > :50:41.41.20 one. He goes into eighth place.

:50:42. > :50:53.In six is the Swede. Two left to go. Watching Daniel Deusser. That is

:50:54. > :50:58.where Ben Maher was so good. That was an exceptional piece of riding.

:50:59. > :51:04.That was the big difference between his round and the round of others.

:51:05. > :51:09.You can see Scott Brash having a practice around the turn. That is

:51:10. > :51:14.the hardest bit of the course. He was third in the Grand Prix last

:51:15. > :51:22.weekend. Now it is the turn of the ten-year-old mare of Lady Kirkham.

:51:23. > :51:27.The time is still that of Ben Maher out in front.

:51:28. > :51:39.He did not have the best turn. A slight slip. He needs to keep

:51:40. > :51:44.moving. That is the same turn that then Maher had. That can put him in

:51:45. > :51:53.contention. This man is so quick around the corners. -- this mare.

:51:54. > :52:01.Could be half a second down. He will have to fly to the last. He is back

:52:02. > :52:11.on song. He is. It is close. Has he done it? Yes, he has. What about

:52:12. > :52:17.that? What about that! That is the magic of Scott Brash yet again. What

:52:18. > :52:24.a piece of judgment estimation mark he had a horrible moment coming into

:52:25. > :52:30.the second fence. That put him back. This mare is so fast over the

:52:31. > :52:37.ground. Have a look here. This slip. Had to go wider. He got too close.

:52:38. > :52:45.Had to dig deep. It is not over yet, is it? No, it is not. This round

:52:46. > :52:51.here was absolutely brilliant. Such a good stride around the double. He

:52:52. > :52:59.took the chance down to the last fence. There is nothing in it. It

:53:00. > :53:06.would be just so good if Scott Brash could do something here in London.

:53:07. > :53:19.This is a big danger. Marcus Ehning, the staff from Germany -- the star.

:53:20. > :53:25.This man is so silky smooth. Where can he pinch the margin to get his

:53:26. > :53:41.nose in front of Scott Brash? Can he even do that?

:53:42. > :53:50.It is all over. Scott has got it. Paul Scott Brash to win here in

:53:51. > :53:58.London, it will be so good for the sport. Well, well, well! Drama at

:53:59. > :54:05.the end. Marcus Ehning and a lot of pressure. It has all gone wrong. He

:54:06. > :54:09.gives his horse a pat. He is trying so hard. Even one of the world's

:54:10. > :54:16.Best riders under that kind of pressure, it has all gone wrong. I

:54:17. > :54:24.saw Scott Brash yesterday and he was so confident about his horse, saying

:54:25. > :54:31.she had never been better. He is so good at producing these horses that

:54:32. > :54:37.the right time. So brilliant! Great to see Marcus Ehning here putting on

:54:38. > :54:43.the pressure. It was not to be. 20 penalties puts him at the bottom of

:54:44. > :54:46.the leaderboard in 13th place. There is the winner. Britain's Scott Brash

:54:47. > :55:02.with Lady Kirkham's horse. Here is confirmation of that radiant

:55:03. > :55:05.win. Ben Maher making it a 1- two for Britain.

:55:06. > :55:14.All the stars there. Laura Kraut from the USA in fourth. John

:55:15. > :55:23.Whitaker among the best in the world still in fifth. Malin

:55:24. > :55:33.Baryard-Johnsson in seventh. What a World Cup round here in London! What

:55:34. > :55:41.an exciting round. Congratulations, Scott brash. A little nervous

:55:42. > :55:47.perhaps? She jumped amazing. I had to take an extra stride to three.

:55:48. > :55:51.She jumped amazing for such is an amazing horse. Nice for her to get a

:55:52. > :55:56.victory as well. She is such an exceptional horse. We will show you

:55:57. > :56:01.the round again. Perhaps you can talk us through it. Number one was

:56:02. > :56:10.good. I did not get a good distance back to two. I had to set up and

:56:11. > :56:20.wait on six, which was not ideal. Good distance back to the double.

:56:21. > :56:25.From here on in, she was fantastic. She jumped brilliant. She was really

:56:26. > :56:34.switched on to her job. She is an amazing man. -- an amazing mare. Do

:56:35. > :56:42.you have to concentrate on yourself? At the start, once then did his

:56:43. > :56:47.round, that was fast. It gave everyone something to chase. When

:56:48. > :56:54.Marcus Ehning is last to go, you never know until he has been. I am

:56:55. > :56:58.delighted with the win at Olympia. We have got Ben Maher joining us as

:56:59. > :57:02.well but you had some nervous moments. I was not sure if you are

:57:03. > :57:07.trying to get away from everything or watching the screen. Your

:57:08. > :57:13.emotions when you saw Scott go clear? Obviously I wanted to win but

:57:14. > :57:20.if I was going to be beaten by anyone, it was good to be Scott. I

:57:21. > :57:26.heard the crowd going and little bit crazy. I am happy. I horse tried to

:57:27. > :57:31.give me everything today. Did you think you had the back row or did

:57:32. > :57:34.you know it was still up? I knew it was still up. So hard when you have

:57:35. > :57:42.all these good riders coming after you. I am happy with second. I could

:57:43. > :57:48.easily have been fifth or sixth today. You were the first clear

:57:49. > :57:52.round. When you know it is a tricky jump off which has been causing

:57:53. > :57:59.problems, does that change how you ride? I have known Diva for a long

:58:00. > :58:07.time now. I have to feel it as I go. There is nothing smooth. I lost it

:58:08. > :58:13.from one to to. If I go to quit early on I lose a bit of control

:58:14. > :58:18.towards the end. I think Scott did not get that line right. He did an

:58:19. > :58:23.extra stride. I thought he was going to be too slow. Small margins. You

:58:24. > :58:27.did have to wait for quite a while to find out if you would win this

:58:28. > :58:35.class or where you would finish. What are those moments like? It is

:58:36. > :58:40.hard. You want to stay and watch. I was checking my horse at the back. I

:58:41. > :58:46.am really happy with today. Always a pleasure to ride here at Olympia.

:58:47. > :58:52.Just proves how good the sport can be. Does it feel special to perform

:58:53. > :59:00.like that in front of a home crowd? It has been a great place. Always a

:59:01. > :59:05.lucky place for me. She was second here last year in the World Cup. It

:59:06. > :59:11.is a shame she did not get this one this year but I am very happy. You

:59:12. > :59:17.have the prize ceremony coming up, so I will let you go. After a lot of

:59:18. > :59:23.people talking about, where is British show-jumping, we have three

:59:24. > :59:28.show-jumpers in the top five. We have had a good day. Our riders are

:59:29. > :59:33.fighters. They try very hard. We were talking about the jump of

:59:34. > :59:41.course being unusual. The double in the centre caused no end of trouble.

:59:42. > :59:47.Our lads rose to -- rode very positively. That is where they

:59:48. > :59:51.basically one it. They are big stage performers, aren't they? When they

:59:52. > :59:55.go in there, they are up for the occasion, up for the fight. That is

:59:56. > :00:00.really important. In these competitions where there are so many

:00:01. > :00:05.in the jump off, it is not too strategic. Plenty of people will go

:00:06. > :00:14.clear. A fantastic sport quite right out of the top drawer. The crowd,

:00:15. > :00:19.forget the British victory, the crowd were up for it. Lots of ebb

:00:20. > :00:24.and flow. No one was going shopping, they were watching the sport. For

:00:25. > :00:32.any course designer, that is what we want full. We want top level sport

:00:33. > :00:38.and a good advert. It has attracted lots of riders who won gold medals

:00:39. > :00:42.in London and in Rio. That is what Olympia needs to do to continue to

:00:43. > :00:46.compete against the best. Olympia does attract the top riders. It is a

:00:47. > :00:51.top level show and a very professional show. It rounds at the

:00:52. > :00:53.end of the year by being where it is situated. It is a good finale for

:00:54. > :01:03.the end of the year. Nicola Philip Hobbs is a promising

:01:04. > :01:08.young rider. Do you get the feeling there is a turn of the tide and

:01:09. > :01:15.there is a whole new generation, not just from the UK but from around the

:01:16. > :01:18.world coming through? -- Nicola Philippaerts. You can see it

:01:19. > :01:23.happening here, riders we have not been familiar with, I think there is

:01:24. > :01:33.a sea change. There is that Volusia. The writing going on now is really

:01:34. > :01:38.different, very flair-y. Very fantastic to watch. Some have been

:01:39. > :01:43.fantastic. Nicola Philippaerts jumped unbelievable. Out of this

:01:44. > :01:49.world. Can you give us an indication of what this does for British

:01:50. > :01:55.show-jumping, Scott Brash winning in front of a packed out crowd, almost

:01:56. > :01:59.10,000 people, and Ben Maher second? Look at people from the previous

:02:00. > :02:03.Olympic Games, Scott and then being at the forefront of the world

:02:04. > :02:07.domination of show-jumping, Scott being number one in the world for

:02:08. > :02:14.almost a year. It shows that Great Britain is a very good place to

:02:15. > :02:20.show-jumping, we are right at the fore of our sport and it is a

:02:21. > :02:24.worldwide sport. Lots of Nations, South America, very strong. To come

:02:25. > :02:28.to these shows and hold ground is very important, a good boost.

:02:29. > :02:32.Certainly has been a fantastic day of World Cup show-jumping. Plenty of

:02:33. > :02:37.sport and entertainment still to come. I'm sure many of you will be

:02:38. > :02:43.keeping an eye on sports personality of the year to night. More from

:02:44. > :02:52.Olympia tomorrow night for the evening performance. You can find us

:02:53. > :02:55.on the red button from 6:40pm. Highlights from Olympia on

:02:56. > :03:02.Wednesday, midday on BBC Two. How good a day has it been for the world

:03:03. > :03:05.looking into Olympia? Will have a sit down and a nice drink because I

:03:06. > :03:09.was super excited and it's been fabulous to be part of it. Well

:03:10. > :03:14.thank you very much for your company. You can just see the

:03:15. > :03:18.entertainment is filling up. The world-class show-jumpers are out of

:03:19. > :03:22.the way, we now have Santa, a Shetland and lots of entertainment.

:03:23. > :03:28.But that's exactly what Olympia is all about. A mixture of some of the

:03:29. > :03:33.best equestrian sport in the world and a lot of fun. Thanks for your

:03:34. > :03:37.company, goodbye. # It's the most wonderful time of

:03:38. > :03:43.the year # There'll be much mistletoe

:03:44. > :03:49.# Hearts will be glowing # And loved ones are near

:03:50. > :03:52.# It's the most wonderful time of the year

:03:53. > :03:57.# Yes the most wonderful time # Over the most wonderful time

:03:58. > :04:01.# Of the year #.
