0:00:13 > 0:00:18What a competition, my word. This horse has been brilliant.Such a

0:00:18 > 0:00:23partnership these two, exceptional. What a fabulous combination, pure

0:00:23 > 0:00:33class as a rider. That was easy. He's way over it!

0:00:36 > 0:00:39Hello and welcome to the London International horse show, one of the

0:00:39 > 0:00:43highlights of the equestrian calendar, today we bring you live

0:00:43 > 0:00:47coverage of the World Cup, a class that has brought in so many of the

0:00:47 > 0:00:52top show from around the world here at Olympia.

0:00:59 > 0:01:04The Olympic gold medalist Foro Switzerland, Steve Guerdat. He's

0:01:04 > 0:01:11done it and he will take silver, Harrie Smolders. He's really put

0:01:11 > 0:01:16down the mark, Ben Maher. Lorenzo showing his class. Van der Vleuten,

0:01:16 > 0:01:21that is clear. Kevin Staut has ridden out of his skin. Greg Dewar

0:01:21 > 0:01:27till it winning the silver medal with a clear round under pressure.

0:01:27 > 0:01:35Peder Fredricson, European champion. That's the magic of Scott Brash.

0:01:36 > 0:01:39We are set for a thrilling World Cup but there is plenty more coming up

0:01:39 > 0:01:45too. Olympic gold medalist Charlotte Dujardin and Carl Hester tell us

0:01:45 > 0:01:50about their latest dressage superstars in rating. There was a

0:01:50 > 0:01:53gold rush for Great Britain at the European Championships this summer.

0:01:53 > 0:01:59We catch up with the eventing team and para- dressage riders. And there

0:01:59 > 0:02:04is highlights of the puissance, the best we have had in years. Who could

0:02:04 > 0:02:08tame the huge Olympia Wall? We are backstage here at Olympia in our

0:02:08 > 0:02:12usual spot and normal service resumed, Tim Stockdale beside me.

0:02:12 > 0:02:16Always great to see you, Tim. Olympia has thrown up some wonderful

0:02:16 > 0:02:21classes and attractive yet again so mini of the world's top riders. It

0:02:21 > 0:02:26has been a fabulous week's jumping, some wonderful classes and fabulous

0:02:26 > 0:02:30jump offs, seven of the world's top ten are here this week so it shows

0:02:30 > 0:02:35the level of competition and also the horses and riders are bouncing

0:02:35 > 0:02:38off the surface this week, jumping out of their skins so we have a

0:02:38 > 0:02:41treat in store. There are so many top price shows these days and for

0:02:41 > 0:02:45people at home who might not watch much equestrian but tune in for

0:02:45 > 0:02:49Olympia these are the gold card holders, these horses crisscross the

0:02:49 > 0:02:53globe at every opportunity. Will they feel tired at this stage of the

0:02:53 > 0:02:57season, or are they already ready for action?Horses always bring

0:02:57 > 0:03:00themselves up for this type of environment, these are show horses,

0:03:00 > 0:03:04the adrenaline gets punching but you are right, showjumping is a global

0:03:04 > 0:03:08sport and these horses are on aeroplanes going to Mexico,

0:03:08 > 0:03:11Shanghai, Hong Kong, they are used to this environment and lift

0:03:11 > 0:03:15themselves for it.The riders love to come to Olympia. What is it about

0:03:15 > 0:03:19the show? It's not the easiest time of the year to come to London to

0:03:19 > 0:03:22compete.It is not but it's a very traditional mark on the calendar,

0:03:22 > 0:03:27they know this show is quality, the facilities are outstanding for the

0:03:27 > 0:03:30horses and riders on the level of competition throughout the week and

0:03:30 > 0:03:34there is good prize money. There is a lot of good reason for the top

0:03:34 > 0:03:38riders to be.Tipp of the top favourites of the crowd are former

0:03:38 > 0:03:42world number ones Scott Brash and Ben Maher. This British showjumping

0:03:42 > 0:03:45chose not to send a team to the European Championships, it was

0:03:45 > 0:03:49hugely controversial and was a decision that led to the resignation

0:03:49 > 0:03:51of Tim from the British showjumping International committee and we will

0:03:51 > 0:03:56speak to him and by Lampard in a moment but Let's hear from Scott and

0:03:56 > 0:03:57then.

0:03:58 > 0:04:04You are doing a look back at 2017, how would you sum it up?A building

0:04:04 > 0:04:09year for me, we have a lot of new horses in the stable, we have been

0:04:09 > 0:04:12struggling a little bit since the days of world number one, and the

0:04:12 > 0:04:17results haven't been quite what I was expecting this year.

0:04:17 > 0:04:20A bit mixed really from my side. I had a few injuries with some horses

0:04:20 > 0:04:26so that has been a bit of a downer. At the same time we won global tour,

0:04:26 > 0:04:30Doha, second in the top ten last week.We must talk about what

0:04:30 > 0:04:34happened in the summer, Great Britain decided not to send a team

0:04:34 > 0:04:36to be European Championships. Was that the right decision, do you

0:04:36 > 0:04:44think?I don't think so, no. I think we should have sent a team. There is

0:04:44 > 0:04:50plenty of riders that need experience at Championships. And

0:04:50 > 0:04:54also older riders that have been going well on the county circuit

0:04:54 > 0:05:00that, you know, I feel should have had a chance, Keith Shaw, Nigel,

0:05:00 > 0:05:03these guys have been solid all summer. It's disappointing because

0:05:03 > 0:05:09looking towards Tokyo helps when people have done a championship

0:05:09 > 0:05:14already.It is no secret it's been a difficult year for our sport,

0:05:14 > 0:05:18probably since the London Olympics, it has a bit of a downward spiral.

0:05:18 > 0:05:25We didn't have a team. If you look at the statistics, in the riders

0:05:25 > 0:05:29meeting they said 23% clear rounds yesterday, in the second division

0:05:29 > 0:05:33nations cup this year. They want to send a team to the European

0:05:33 > 0:05:37Championships. If we can't jump clears in the second divisions

0:05:37 > 0:05:40Nations cup it's not going to get any better for the European

0:05:40 > 0:05:44Championships. I think sometimes sending younger riders, some people

0:05:44 > 0:05:48might say it's experience but if it's not a positive it can lead onto

0:05:48 > 0:05:53a negative.Why did you rule yourself out of the Europeans?I

0:05:53 > 0:06:00didn't rule myself out, my horse was on the list to go and she got

0:06:00 > 0:06:05injured and Hello For ever was deemed not reliable enough for a

0:06:05 > 0:06:08championship but I didn't rule myself out.Do you feel an

0:06:08 > 0:06:12obligation to have horses at the top of their game so you can go to these

0:06:12 > 0:06:17competitions?Absolutely, yes. We love jumping for our country and

0:06:17 > 0:06:21want to jump for our country and want to win medals but me and Ben

0:06:21 > 0:06:25are realistic, we know what it takes and there is no point going just to

0:06:25 > 0:06:28make up the numbers and destroying your horse for years to come.

0:06:28 > 0:06:32Everybody says Scott should have gone, then should have gone, they

0:06:32 > 0:06:35didn't go because a bigger prize money in other places. But it's not

0:06:35 > 0:06:40the case, it is unfair to keep relying on Scott, or are likewise

0:06:40 > 0:06:45asking my owners to give my students' horses to borrow for the

0:06:45 > 0:06:48show when they are not quite ready. Hopefully we can build another pool

0:06:48 > 0:06:53of horse rider combinations and get through next year with a qualifying

0:06:53 > 0:06:57spot for Tokyo.Back to the fun side of Olympia, how special eight show

0:06:57 > 0:07:01is it for you as a British rider to be here finishing off what is a long

0:07:01 > 0:07:04and arduous season?I always say it's one of my favourite shows of

0:07:04 > 0:07:08the year. The time of the year, it gives the show a magical feeling and

0:07:08 > 0:07:12the crowd is on another level to many of the other shows we go to.

0:07:12 > 0:07:16It's amazing to jump here and we all want to win and give our home crowd

0:07:16 > 0:07:21something to cheer about, it puts up a good competition.I'm delighted to

0:07:21 > 0:07:25say that the performance manager from British showjumping Di Lampard

0:07:25 > 0:07:28is alongside us and it shows you what a divided decision it was that

0:07:28 > 0:07:31even Ben May and Scott Brash can decide whether it was right to send

0:07:31 > 0:07:34a team to the European Championships. Explained the

0:07:34 > 0:07:40decision not to send one.Our priority this year was to get GB are

0:07:40 > 0:07:42into division one and that was our priority and we succeeded doing

0:07:42 > 0:07:50that. We have a small pool of horses and to be able to cover everything

0:07:50 > 0:07:55is impossible. Come the end of the year when we still had accounting,

0:07:55 > 0:07:58Nations cup to go to the week after the European Championships,

0:07:58 > 0:08:04priorities had to be made and we achieved our milestone target for UK

0:08:04 > 0:08:11Sport, got back into division one where GB should be.Tim, you felt

0:08:11 > 0:08:14strong enough to resign from the committee had been on for over a

0:08:14 > 0:08:19decade. Why were you so upset with the decision?I sat on the

0:08:19 > 0:08:23international committee which is not a selection committee, it's a

0:08:23 > 0:08:26committee to dictate policy on the way we plan forward for the season

0:08:26 > 0:08:30for the international for the senior, Junior and Young Riders. At

0:08:30 > 0:08:34no point in any of the meetings I attended, which was all of them,

0:08:34 > 0:08:38100% record going to the beatings, was it ever mooted or talked about

0:08:38 > 0:08:43that we would not attend. So to hear that we would not send a team after

0:08:43 > 0:08:47consultation with all the people involved, I felt was not correct. As

0:08:47 > 0:08:51a result of which I felt so strongly about the fact I thought it was the

0:08:51 > 0:08:55right decision that there was nothing else I could do but

0:08:55 > 0:08:58resigned.Have you ever been on a team where it was better to go and

0:08:58 > 0:09:03gain any form of experience, and maybe quash the doubters that there

0:09:03 > 0:09:08might have been, and is it ever worth taking that chance? There is

0:09:08 > 0:09:11nothing like experience, you can't beat experience. You do want a good

0:09:11 > 0:09:17experience. I haven't been on a team but I've seen bad experiences in the

0:09:17 > 0:09:22past. And we don't want to do that. Either with the athlete or the

0:09:22 > 0:09:29equine. We have to think of the welfare of the horse. We keep going

0:09:29 > 0:09:32back, let's look forward, we have some lovely horses that will be ten

0:09:32 > 0:09:36years old next year and that nine years old the riders made the call

0:09:36 > 0:09:41not to take their nine-year-old horses this year. Looking forward to

0:09:41 > 0:09:46Olympia here, what we are all here for, we are going to C4

0:09:46 > 0:09:50nine-year-olds today in the World Cup.In terms of the state of

0:09:50 > 0:09:53British Showjumping, Tim, where do you think we are going forward? We

0:09:53 > 0:09:57have to start getting some clear plans on what is going to happen, we

0:09:57 > 0:10:01need a pool of riders that know which end of the rope we need to be

0:10:01 > 0:10:04pulling so that we pull in the right direction and also talk about giving

0:10:04 > 0:10:07riders experience and that will not happen when we don't go to

0:10:07 > 0:10:11Championships, and even if we'd been in the situation where we would have

0:10:11 > 0:10:13taken a younger rider for experience, actually that might have

0:10:13 > 0:10:18been something that would have led going forward. Two Young Riders went

0:10:18 > 0:10:22to the under 25s, there was a Canterbury there this year. N has

0:10:22 > 0:10:26already said, so as not worth repeating, the percentages of the

0:10:26 > 0:10:30clear rounds that were jumped this year but look at the other

0:10:30 > 0:10:33Europeans. We had two European Championships in August, whatever

0:10:33 > 0:10:40mastic medal haul the young riders did -- what a fantastic medal haul.

0:10:40 > 0:10:44You can only win the Lottery if you buy a ticket and not going with a

0:10:44 > 0:10:48team there was no chance. If you only target one championship a year,

0:10:48 > 0:10:52you either opt for the senior or the young Rider. It's going backwards a

0:10:52 > 0:10:55little bit but going forwards can we very clearly state we are going to

0:10:55 > 0:11:02send a team?Of course we are.A great place to end unforced I feel

0:11:02 > 0:11:05this discussion could go on for the next three hours but thank you for

0:11:05 > 0:11:11your input. It's a different discipline but a similar problem for

0:11:11 > 0:11:14the British para- dressage team. Venue if they headed to the European

0:11:14 > 0:11:17Championships there would have to do so without some of their big names

0:11:17 > 0:11:20but they sent a team and gave the opportunity to three new riders to

0:11:20 > 0:11:25make their senior debut alongside the experienced Olympian Sophie

0:11:25 > 0:11:29Wells. It was team gold, a host of individual golds and yet another

0:11:29 > 0:11:37heist. Good to see so many medals, you have another three to add to

0:11:37 > 0:11:41your already huge medal collection. Just look back on the European

0:11:41 > 0:11:45Championships and tell us how special they were.It was really

0:11:45 > 0:11:49special this time. We went in a little bit as underdogs and it was

0:11:49 > 0:11:54maybe a bit of a tense time but that made it more special when we came

0:11:54 > 0:11:57out on top and everyone achieved their best and I knew that if

0:11:57 > 0:12:02everyone did their best we would have a good shout at the team medal.

0:12:02 > 0:12:05Obviously when you are on the team no one lets you forget that we have

0:12:05 > 0:12:09never lost the team medal. So I think people were under pressure but

0:12:09 > 0:12:12I think it's the sign of a good competitor if you can thrive under

0:12:12 > 0:12:17it.You are vastly experienced as a horsewoman. How special was it for

0:12:17 > 0:12:21you to be part of this team? This has been the most important thing of

0:12:21 > 0:12:25my life. It's been an absolute dream. I think I've been more

0:12:25 > 0:12:34excited about competing at paras than any of the able-bodied things

0:12:34 > 0:12:37I've done. This is something you would never have envisaged that you

0:12:37 > 0:12:44would be part of.Never, ever. I'm this able-bodied, I was healthy and

0:12:44 > 0:12:51well, so I never thought I be part of a para team to start off with

0:12:51 > 0:12:57health-wise, and certainly at my age, so to come in and be selected

0:12:57 > 0:13:02to go to Gothenberg was just unbelievable. You had come close in

0:13:02 > 0:13:08previous years, so when you got the chance to show when you could do and

0:13:08 > 0:13:11showcase your talents, how special was that?Like you say, there have

0:13:11 > 0:13:16been so many sort of near misses and coming close and all of a sudden I

0:13:16 > 0:13:22had the opportunity and I thought I'd better make the most of it so it

0:13:22 > 0:13:26was a huge relief to come away with the medal.Uhr three golds around

0:13:26 > 0:13:29your neck and now you have had a taste of it, even though there are

0:13:29 > 0:13:32plenty of top riders in para dressage in the UK, I bet you

0:13:32 > 0:13:36wouldn't mind too much if you get them out of their spot.I'd be lying

0:13:36 > 0:13:40if I said I didn't want to go to the worlds and be on that next year so

0:13:40 > 0:13:45I'm looking to that now. But obviously with horses and us as

0:13:45 > 0:13:49athletes it's keeping at the top of our game. It's easier said than done

0:13:49 > 0:13:54but we have a good support team so we are very lucky. What another

0:13:54 > 0:13:56fantastic result for British para dressage. It wouldn't be Christmas

0:13:56 > 0:14:01if we didn't show you a collection of extremely brave but slightly

0:14:01 > 0:14:04bonkers riders hurling themselves at a huge wall that stands taller than

0:14:04 > 0:14:08them and their horse put together. It's the puissance and my goodness

0:14:08 > 0:14:13what a competitive puissance it was. Sit tight and enjoy.

0:14:16 > 0:14:19We have a going forward to the third round and the crowd is starting to

0:14:19 > 0:14:24get pumped up now. This is one of the best puissances we have seen in

0:14:24 > 0:14:28many a year. The decision has been made to raise the wall to two

0:14:28 > 0:14:38metres.Here we go, round three, and into the arena Karline De Brabander.

0:14:38 > 0:14:44She has been a terrific pathfinder in both rounds so far. This horse

0:14:44 > 0:14:49has just come in, big powerful stallion, made it look very easy so

0:14:49 > 0:14:57far.

0:15:07 > 0:15:15And again we are going to keep going bigger and bigger tonight. Just too

0:15:15 > 0:15:25good. However hard these course builders choose to go she hasn't

0:15:25 > 0:15:36even nudged the top of that brick wall. Louise say well and Dassler.

0:15:36 > 0:15:45The atmosphere is just starting to get to Dassler -- Louise Saywell.

0:15:45 > 0:15:50But Louise is a very calm rider. She's got to keep him hocks under

0:15:50 > 0:15:55him, get right in the corner, slow the pace. You can see her slowing

0:15:55 > 0:16:00everything right down, take your time.

0:16:01 > 0:16:07Well, I have to say Louise did absolutely everything right. She got

0:16:07 > 0:16:12to the right place and Dassler didn't quite make the height. So

0:16:12 > 0:16:26that 1's gone, but just didn't quite get the shoulders in the hair.

0:16:26 > 0:16:31Padraic Judge and Citi Business, all so assured so far for this veteran

0:16:31 > 0:16:38combination.

0:16:38 > 0:16:43It's always interesting when you add up the rider's age and horse's age,

0:16:43 > 0:16:4766 years between them. But full of running.

0:16:52 > 0:16:55He's had to change his mind, but well done! Brilliant piece of

0:16:55 > 0:17:01riding. . It a bit close, held his horse together. What a fantastic bit

0:17:01 > 0:17:09of riding, improvised on the last stride and made it happen. Now,

0:17:13 > 0:17:18Louis Deforche and Gladstone.This is the one you've been looking

0:17:18 > 0:17:22forward to. He's missed his stride to the triple bar, it's gone, he ran

0:17:22 > 0:17:29it to close. What a shame. He can still get someplace money if he can

0:17:29 > 0:17:36jump the wall. He's jumped the wall! Goodness me! Is either too far off,

0:17:36 > 0:17:40or to close, but he has still jumped the wall. That's got to be so

0:17:40 > 0:17:50frustrating. Here she is, the horse known as George, Quality Old Joker,

0:17:50 > 0:17:56Holly Smith.

0:18:01 > 0:18:06A complete contrast here. Everything under control. Nice and quietly and

0:18:06 > 0:18:16slowly into the corners.

0:18:17 > 0:18:26It's a stroll in the park. In a hand canter down to an enormous fence,

0:18:26 > 0:18:44two metres and popped it as if it was nothing. So, now, Christopher

0:18:44 > 0:18:47Megahey and Seapatrick Cruise Cavalier. This one will raise your

0:18:47 > 0:18:53pulse a little. Keep an eye as he comes down to the wall. No!The

0:18:53 > 0:18:57dreaded triple bar. Is he going to retire? He's not going to bother.

0:18:57 > 0:19:04Would you?You can understand why, he is an older horse, he's jumped a

0:19:04 > 0:19:08lot of big things in his time and he's not going to win tonight so you

0:19:08 > 0:19:12have to congratulate him on his decision to save he's had enough,

0:19:12 > 0:19:16you don't have too jump the wall as you made a mistake.Three through to

0:19:16 > 0:19:26the next round so far. Will Laura Renwick add her name? Top Dollar VI

0:19:26 > 0:19:29and Laura Renwick for Great Britain.

0:19:37 > 0:19:45Top Dollar is a horse with a lot of blood. Laura is going to settle him

0:19:45 > 0:19:54right down. He's fighting a little bit there. But what a jump. That was

0:19:54 > 0:20:01absolute class. The younger horse pops through the air through his

0:20:01 > 0:20:05shoulders. That was good to watch. We need to see that one again. Our

0:20:05 > 0:20:15final competitor in this is Anthony Condon riding Cavalier Rusticana for

0:20:15 > 0:20:20Ireland.Fantastic horse, we could do with him into the next round to

0:20:20 > 0:20:24keep the momentum of this class going.

0:20:29 > 0:20:36Beautifully done. He is through. We are going to get full value tonight.

0:20:36 > 0:20:41The maximum five rounds will be reached, I'm sure.I would say so.

0:20:41 > 0:20:50The crowd are really buzzed up now with that massive wall raised to six

0:20:50 > 0:20:562.1 metres, last year the winner jumped 2.15. Round four, Karline De

0:20:56 > 0:21:05Brabander, Fantomas de Muze who has been foot perfect so far, as has

0:21:05 > 0:21:14this 12-year-old stallion. What can they do here? She has looked all

0:21:14 > 0:21:18night like she is just having fun, and the horse is still looks relaxed

0:21:18 > 0:21:28and happy.

0:21:28 > 0:21:32He is a proper jumper. He's still making a beautiful shape over the

0:21:32 > 0:21:41triple bar. A bit strong. But he's done it again! A little bit more

0:21:41 > 0:21:45untidy, had to struggle to get the back end over but he's through.

0:21:45 > 0:21:52She's done it, Karline, and Fantomas de Muze is through to the final

0:21:52 > 0:21:56round of the puissance, if indeed that final round is necessary. We

0:21:56 > 0:22:07will find out.You can see that to Fantomas de Muze knows where the

0:22:07 > 0:22:14wall is. The shape of the jump is a bit too high, slightly inverted in

0:22:14 > 0:22:17his jump, went over to the right-hand side but he fought really

0:22:17 > 0:22:22hard.Look at the smile on her face. It just gets broader and broader

0:22:22 > 0:22:27each around. This is the horse that this family bread from their own

0:22:27 > 0:22:38stud. So he's obviously part of the family.

0:22:42 > 0:22:47Padraic Judge and Citi Business in the second round. These other senior

0:22:47 > 0:22:51members in this class tonight. This horse is really brave and very

0:22:51 > 0:23:06powerful. Just doesn't want to run in quite so close this time.

0:23:06 > 0:23:10Perfectly done, he got a much better stride that time. That was

0:23:10 > 0:23:15fantastic.We have a real contest on our hands and it may take a good bit

0:23:15 > 0:23:22more winning than last year, that's two through.Padraic Judge and Citi

0:23:22 > 0:23:26Business, look at this again. Padraic Judge looked cool after

0:23:26 > 0:23:29jumping it but I wonder what is going on inside his mind because

0:23:29 > 0:23:34that was a very good jump. He made exactly the right place on his

0:23:34 > 0:23:37take-off. He ran into close Last Time.

0:23:37 > 0:23:45CHUCKLES Connections there. He's not smiling

0:23:45 > 0:23:50much, maybe he is just about smiling. He knows he has more work

0:23:50 > 0:23:54to do.He has more work to do but he's going into another round. Here

0:23:54 > 0:24:02we go then. Bidding to defend her crown, Holly Smith and Quality Old

0:24:02 > 0:24:04Joker for Great Britain.

0:24:10 > 0:24:14So, is Holly going to have to put a little bit of pressure on this

0:24:14 > 0:24:18horse, or is she just going to pop over this wall as quietly as she has

0:24:18 > 0:24:25been doing all night? Really taking her time, using the arena. Quietly

0:24:25 > 0:24:33does it. APPLAUSE

0:24:33 > 0:24:38Exactly the same again, at a canter. Even to the untrained eye that never

0:24:38 > 0:24:43looked in doubt. No pressure, no fuss, no stress, quite canter, into

0:24:43 > 0:24:47the bottom, pop to jump. Extraordinary. You won't see that

0:24:47 > 0:24:57very often. Very quiet. I love the way she takes her time. Holly Smith

0:24:57 > 0:25:02is so cool. The horse known as George, and he is a gentleman,

0:25:02 > 0:25:07George, as well.He never question is what Holly's telling him. He

0:25:07 > 0:25:12stays in the balance that she wants and that makes her life so much

0:25:12 > 0:25:19easier. What a lovely brain that hopes has got. -- lovely brain that

0:25:19 > 0:25:25paws has got.So, two more to jump in this round and the next is Laura

0:25:25 > 0:25:29Renwick also for Great Britain on Top Dollar VI, just an

0:25:29 > 0:25:31eight-year-old, and this horse has looked some proposition with some

0:25:31 > 0:25:37scope this evening. The fascinating thing is he has almost been jumping

0:25:37 > 0:25:42a bit too high. He tapped the triple bar, it's still there.

0:25:46 > 0:25:56He does it again! Brilliant. This is sensational puissance jumping, and

0:25:56 > 0:26:02four have cleared this height in the fourth round without any bother

0:26:02 > 0:26:09whatsoever.Just have another look at that. Into the right place,

0:26:09 > 0:26:14giving it a lot of air, making it a classic shape, and getting those

0:26:14 > 0:26:21shoulders so high and finishing it off behind. Making 6'11" just for

0:26:21 > 0:26:31fun. A little wry smile. Laura's husband, John, said tongue in cheek

0:26:31 > 0:26:36to me would might just go one or two rounds. They are going to go all the

0:26:36 > 0:26:43way. And will it be a fifth in the final round? It would be great if it

0:26:43 > 0:26:48were, really put some pressure on the course builders here. Anthony

0:26:48 > 0:26:53Condon for Ireland and Cavalier Rusticana.It has been such a

0:26:53 > 0:26:59brilliant decision by the Olympia show to bring in these puissance

0:26:59 > 0:27:03specialists. We are getting the benefit of this class. And there we

0:27:03 > 0:27:07lose one in the most annoying way, that triple bar going with a lazy

0:27:07 > 0:27:13jumper. The wall has been the easy one in this round. Well, they are

0:27:13 > 0:27:18such specialists, but not this time, the wall going as well. It's all

0:27:18 > 0:27:21over for Anthony Condon tonight, he's given it a go, but we still

0:27:21 > 0:27:27have another fantastic round to come. We have, because four

0:27:27 > 0:27:32competitors are eligible for the fifth and final round, and they are

0:27:32 > 0:27:38Karline De Brabander for Belgium.By Greg Judge for Ireland, Holly Smith,

0:27:38 > 0:27:47Laura Renwick, and what frustration, going three times. Whether his

0:27:47 > 0:27:49frustration just went, Anthony Condon, just ran into the wall.

0:27:49 > 0:27:54Confirmation of the fifth and final round in this Cayenne Puissance at

0:27:54 > 0:28:01Olympia, first to go will be Karline De Brabander for Belgium and then

0:28:01 > 0:28:10add rate judge, Holly Smith and then Laura Renwick. -- Padraic Judge.

0:28:10 > 0:28:26Here we go then. Karline De Brabander with Fantomas de Muze.

0:28:26 > 0:28:357'3", the wall now.Over the triple bar he is very loose with his act

0:28:35 > 0:28:39end, but just at the wall he gets a bit tight, he's going to have to

0:28:39 > 0:28:51free it off. He hit it front and back. Really brave effort there.

0:28:51 > 0:28:55From Karline De Brabander. But as it stands, until any of the others

0:28:55 > 0:29:01clear it she is still in pole position. She is.There is no

0:29:01 > 0:29:06guarantees the others will clear. You can see he threw himself at it a

0:29:06 > 0:29:10little bit. His head comes up, the shape of the jump goes and he has

0:29:10 > 0:29:13just pushed himself beyond where he can keep the shape of his jumper. He

0:29:13 > 0:29:17is a very brave horse and he has given it a go but he got his head up

0:29:17 > 0:29:22a bit too high -- the shape of his jump. She is ensured the top four

0:29:22 > 0:29:27spot if the others don't make it.At this height there is no guarantee of

0:29:27 > 0:29:43anybody clearing it.Next to go Citi Business, 15-year-old, and Padraic

0:29:43 > 0:29:51Judge, winner of the horse of the year show puissance.Padraic Judge

0:29:51 > 0:29:56looks, when he comes in but I wonder what's really going on inside his

0:29:56 > 0:30:03head.

0:30:05 > 0:30:17Make him wait. Oh! Great effort, he hit the right spot and couldn't

0:30:17 > 0:30:21quite get the height, fantastically brave horse, gave it everything he

0:30:21 > 0:30:24had got at couldn't quite make the height. Nothing wrong with the

0:30:24 > 0:30:28approach at all. Those ten centimetres really making the

0:30:28 > 0:30:33difference in this final round. This is very serious territory now.

0:30:33 > 0:30:37Brilliant ride, got to the right place. Couldn't quite make the

0:30:37 > 0:30:42height. Just maybe a fraction of it if you are being a bit picky. But

0:30:42 > 0:30:45horse and rider giving it absolutely everything, they just couldn't quite

0:30:45 > 0:30:52jump it. We're just seeing how difficult it to jump 2.2 metres.And

0:30:52 > 0:30:56two chances left for a rider to accomplish that mission. The first

0:30:56 > 0:31:04of those will be last year's joint winner, could she get a share of the

0:31:04 > 0:31:09spoils to night? Could she win it out right on Quality Old Joker, it's

0:31:09 > 0:31:14Holly Smith.

0:31:14 > 0:31:22oxers will she have the nerve to come as high as two metres 20.So

0:31:22 > 0:31:29far she has not come out of a canter.

0:31:29 > 0:31:30far she has not come out of a canter.

0:31:32 > 0:31:48Got to approach this the same. Into the quiet canter and trust the jump.

0:31:49 > 0:31:53Maybe a little too quiet, a super slow canter, that's the tactic she

0:31:53 > 0:31:58is used all night but so far none of them have jumped it.Will it be a

0:31:58 > 0:32:06four way tie for victory or can Laura Renwick come in and claim this

0:32:06 > 0:32:12boils alone. -- spoils.Fascinating, Holly Smith sticking to her tactics,

0:32:12 > 0:32:19very quiet, didn't want to use any pace gave it a go but couldn't get

0:32:19 > 0:32:28his body high enough. We thought 220, with a bit elevation would sort

0:32:28 > 0:32:34them out, sorting it out a bit too well. 220 is massive. When you have

0:32:34 > 0:32:38those horses coming into the last round, what can you do?Laura, it's

0:32:38 > 0:32:50on you.Yamahas. Top dollar. Fourth last year. Winner last time. None of

0:32:50 > 0:32:55the other horses have been able to get their front like high enough,

0:32:55 > 0:33:02this one has been going high enough all night. She's done it.

0:33:02 > 0:33:11Extraordinary. Terrific finish. That was something special, that force

0:33:11 > 0:33:16for every inch of the way, got too close. Had a bit of a clout but what

0:33:16 > 0:33:23a fighter. He just wouldn't give in. What a magnificent way to finish

0:33:23 > 0:33:28what has been a spellbinding event and the crowd are rising to their

0:33:28 > 0:33:36feet. A standing ovation but Laura Renwick has done it.This horse

0:33:36 > 0:33:41fights all the way, Laura says, on and a massive effort and flicked his

0:33:41 > 0:33:47back end away. He tried so hard, runs in a little bit close and then

0:33:47 > 0:33:56he fights. Laura is a tough competitor.What a brave for us. We

0:33:56 > 0:34:01were in for a treat all the way tonight and what a finale. And how

0:34:01 > 0:34:05close was this brick to toppling? You need a bit of luck but the horse

0:34:05 > 0:34:09deserved it because he tried so hard, the only horse to get his

0:34:09 > 0:34:15front end that high. The previous round he had the greatest elevation.

0:34:15 > 0:34:21Just got so high with his shoulders and John Renwick said he might only

0:34:21 > 0:34:28go one round. You didn't believe him, did you?Not for one second.

0:34:28 > 0:34:38Confirming the result. What a climax it was. Saving the very best to the

0:34:38 > 0:34:42last possible nanosecond. The crowd absolutely loved it. Laura Renwick

0:34:42 > 0:34:46winning for Great Britain. The eight-year-old might be back next

0:34:46 > 0:34:47year and the year after.

0:34:55 > 0:34:59That was such a competitive class. We know you are one of the stars of

0:34:59 > 0:35:03the show last year, you got so close this year?My house was really

0:35:03 > 0:35:08close, jumped fantastic in the first four rounds and jumped well and the

0:35:08 > 0:35:11last one, just robbed a break and didn't have luck but we are

0:35:11 > 0:35:16delighted with him, he does it all with a smile on his face, he is not

0:35:16 > 0:35:24a one trick pony, there is space to keep him for longer.Laura,

0:35:24 > 0:35:29congratulations, we have a conversation every year seeing you

0:35:29 > 0:35:35are not a huge fan of Puissance and now you have jumped seven feet three

0:35:35 > 0:35:38inches to clear this.He jumped three rounds then and jumped it very

0:35:38 > 0:35:44well. I'm not a fan of this class but he is very good at it and then

0:35:44 > 0:35:48do this year we had a real shot. I was there was going into the last

0:35:48 > 0:35:55round. He tried his heart out.Comes down to confidence, that's as big as

0:35:55 > 0:35:58you have ever jumped and you have depressed he can do that?Everybody

0:35:58 > 0:36:03saw him up until the round, the wasn't within an inch of touching

0:36:03 > 0:36:08that brick, the last one I didn't have the greatest stride. He tried

0:36:08 > 0:36:12everything to get his body and legs out of the way and we were lucky,

0:36:12 > 0:36:18I'm not saying we weren't bad I will take that. You could hear the crowd

0:36:18 > 0:36:22were so on-site for you, crowd favourite and you came out,

0:36:22 > 0:36:25everybody was clapping. A lot of well-wishers.That was my son, he

0:36:25 > 0:36:30was laughing because you say if I go and I don't ball and he tells me to

0:36:30 > 0:36:34go. He was actually quite proud of me tonight to keep going that far.

0:36:34 > 0:36:39Really pleased.Laura Renwick acknowledges the crowd, one more

0:36:39 > 0:36:47time. The heroine of this evening's Puissance representing Great

0:36:47 > 0:36:52Britain. The youngest horse in the line-up. Laura Renwick is your

0:36:52 > 0:36:55winner.

0:36:56 > 0:37:03What a wonderful Puissance and Laura Renwick is hugely popular here. It's

0:37:03 > 0:37:09always a great crowd pleaser at Olympia. Thursday night was a

0:37:09 > 0:37:14classic.What is it that the drug can associate. She was on the

0:37:14 > 0:37:17shopping village and talking to everybody. And she goes in the ring

0:37:17 > 0:37:22she gives it everything. Puissance Or speed class, she is brave even

0:37:22 > 0:37:25though something she gives the impression she is worried. She goes

0:37:25 > 0:37:32like anything. We will take a walk round is huge World Cup course in

0:37:32 > 0:37:36just a minute but in showjumping, those jobs might be a bit smaller

0:37:36 > 0:37:39than these mines but you need to have such accuracy in eventing when

0:37:39 > 0:37:44it comes to all three phases over showjumping, dressage and

0:37:44 > 0:37:49cross-country. That is exactly how Great Britain got their hands on yet

0:37:49 > 0:37:53another team gold at the European Championships.

0:37:54 > 0:37:54Great Britain takes

0:37:54 > 0:37:58Great Britain takes the gold.

0:38:02 > 0:38:06Kina, I imagine it was much more pleasant for you instead of working

0:38:06 > 0:38:10for us and the BBC. To get back onto that team, how important was that

0:38:10 > 0:38:15for you?It was really important for me, as much as I enjoyed working for

0:38:15 > 0:38:22the other side, I would love to have been competing. It's an exciting

0:38:22 > 0:38:26young horse was very much that future ahead of him and he was very

0:38:26 > 0:38:29good at Badminton and when I finished tenth and I was going it

0:38:29 > 0:38:33see what sort of horse I got and how exciting he is and to have that

0:38:33 > 0:38:36opportunity to go to the European Championships was fantastic. You set

0:38:36 > 0:38:40it all out for yourself and sadly you horse couldn't compete on the

0:38:40 > 0:38:45Sunday, explain the background to that?On the Sunday, there's a

0:38:45 > 0:38:49veterinary inspection, the girl 's horses looked ready to jump on my

0:38:49 > 0:38:52horse was a little bit sore, the first time he has been rattled

0:38:52 > 0:38:57around on that sort of terrain, so we decided it was best in the

0:38:57 > 0:39:02long-term for him not to jump that day.I imagine the aim is always the

0:39:02 > 0:39:06same, to have a clear round of showjumping but it wasn't just any

0:39:06 > 0:39:11clear round, there was an awful lot stake? It becomes a lot more

0:39:11 > 0:39:20important, he hadn't had a pull-down for 99 years. He's a great jumper.

0:39:20 > 0:39:23It was all about me making sure the preparation was right and it all

0:39:23 > 0:39:30paid off.COMMENTATOR: Nicola Wilson of Great Britain takes the bronze.

0:39:30 > 0:39:34You're left with two medals. Some of your memories and emotions of that

0:39:34 > 0:39:37whole time.Going into the championships I knew she was in a

0:39:37 > 0:39:42good place physically and mentally and to come away with gold and

0:39:42 > 0:39:47individual bronze was a dream come true and lovely to get the

0:39:47 > 0:39:51individual medal. The whole. Medals to your name but he does this one

0:39:51 > 0:39:54compare what might really important for Britain to come home with a

0:39:54 > 0:39:59medal and gold. In our personal bests and we could be vying for the

0:39:59 > 0:40:02medal but coming back with the goods met a huge amount for the lottery

0:40:02 > 0:40:08funding and everything for the whole nation. It was incredibly important.

0:40:08 > 0:40:11Here are, it is coarse wok time, anything can happen if you have

0:40:11 > 0:40:15watched as the last couple of years, Tim has destroyed some fences, we

0:40:15 > 0:40:20will try not to let that happen again. Yet another big, foreboding

0:40:20 > 0:40:25course, as you would expect, it is a World Cup and my goodness this first

0:40:25 > 0:40:30fence is tricky alongside the crowd and in a corner.Tricky, I am seeing

0:40:30 > 0:40:33big. That's a big first fence, if you didn't realise how serious this

0:40:33 > 0:40:39is, we are now finding out. Straight at parallel. Straight into the

0:40:39 > 0:40:45crowd. You have got 50 metres before the audience. People sat right on

0:40:45 > 0:40:49the edge, that can be distracting for horse and rider, so make sure

0:40:49 > 0:40:53they are on the ball. How often do you get in competitions and run the

0:40:53 > 0:40:57world the crowd so on top of the horses and riders. This is unusual,

0:40:57 > 0:41:02two in the world that have this arena that is so close access for

0:41:02 > 0:41:10the crowd and the horses. Number two just round the corner. Have to try

0:41:10 > 0:41:16to keep out. Number two. Again at parallel, fairly straightforward.

0:41:16 > 0:41:22This is quite a nice fence. Good definition. The horse can see that.

0:41:22 > 0:41:28We are now in the course. How important isthat. We are going into

0:41:28 > 0:41:34the arena. These are big and bold colours, is that important for

0:41:34 > 0:41:40horses going on in here. Easier for the horse to jump the fence if he

0:41:40 > 0:41:44can see the definition it is a general rule, the more definition

0:41:44 > 0:41:48the more the horse can work and see it and be able to visualise it but

0:41:48 > 0:41:54that is then used as a challenge and I will point that out as we walk

0:41:54 > 0:42:03around the course.I will stride it out. Where is the horse going to

0:42:03 > 0:42:07land? Just joining in there, about here. It shows you the sort of

0:42:07 > 0:42:17league they are having to do and four got my strides is one horse.

0:42:17 > 0:42:26Four of ten strides is one horse stride. This is where you take off

0:42:26 > 0:42:33from.Half-hour stride away. Vertical, vertical, five strides,

0:42:33 > 0:42:37you're going past two fences in the horse's I like, so the horse must

0:42:37 > 0:42:43concentrate and not focusing on the wrong one. That is about the rider,

0:42:43 > 0:42:49with his skill to tell the messages. These first fences have a lot of air

0:42:49 > 0:42:55in between. They are all about being more careful, then the old days they

0:42:55 > 0:43:01would have all these things in there. The shallow crutch and the

0:43:01 > 0:43:06rounded end, so these fall off very easily. This is when I start to get

0:43:06 > 0:43:13nervous.Through the gap.We are going all the way around the top

0:43:13 > 0:43:17end. All the way around and we have the combination. This is number

0:43:17 > 0:43:18four.

0:43:21 > 0:43:26Dellit he has put this in a tidy place, this is OK because he is a

0:43:26 > 0:43:31loving the horses to go run that fence. That will hold the horse in

0:43:31 > 0:43:35the balance and it gives him a nice bit of room to get this combination.

0:43:35 > 0:43:42The way this course is done, it has used the colours, all the same and

0:43:42 > 0:43:45then what happens, if you look at it from this angle, down here, just

0:43:45 > 0:43:53looks like a mass of polls. The horse is not sure what he can see

0:43:53 > 0:43:56and how many strides are in between because it looks like a massive

0:43:56 > 0:44:01black and white bar.The width of this one and you have to get this

0:44:01 > 0:44:04one right before your heading onto the others. If the camera shows us

0:44:04 > 0:44:10the width here. You have to have a pretty good wingspan for that. You

0:44:10 > 0:44:15have to be solid and there, the right at of power but not too much.

0:44:15 > 0:44:23Then I vertical, I don't know the distance. That is a normal one

0:44:23 > 0:44:27stride in there, so as long as you get nice balance, the horse stays in

0:44:27 > 0:44:30the current rhythm and you have one stride in the middle and that's not

0:44:30 > 0:44:36too bad. Could be taller but that's OK. Just one hole left to go up but

0:44:36 > 0:44:39that is maybe for the jump off.If the horses are getting things wrong

0:44:39 > 0:44:43by this stage they are in all sorts of trouble in the third element. If

0:44:43 > 0:44:48they get to the wrong balance, too much in front or behind, they can

0:44:48 > 0:44:51pull it up, so they have to get in their balance and stay there. We

0:44:51 > 0:44:58will go through this gap here.I cannot see one! There is one.

0:45:05 > 0:45:08Just walking around these riders so I don't get in the way. I didn't

0:45:08 > 0:45:15want to walk in front of riders. Two strides in the centre, a little bit

0:45:15 > 0:45:19short, sought the horse has to back off, jump the front real because

0:45:19 > 0:45:23that would be quite close button still hadn't noticed as a back real

0:45:23 > 0:45:29to it as well. You see why they call it at parallel. From the horse's

0:45:29 > 0:45:32point of view they have to judge not only the front rail but also the

0:45:32 > 0:45:36back real and it's a little bit short, so if you go with too much

0:45:36 > 0:45:42pace in this aspect because you think this is why,.Have you marked

0:45:42 > 0:45:46this down as a trouble spot? This will fold down quite a lot in my

0:45:46 > 0:45:54opinion. The first oxer could be a problematic jump.A lot of fences to

0:45:54 > 0:45:57be jumped at this point.

0:46:03 > 0:46:06We are heading down to number five. It is actually bigger than Edwina

0:46:06 > 0:46:13Tops-Alexander who is standing in front of it.Laura is looking at it

0:46:13 > 0:46:17as well. Problem is right by the entrance, the horse will be a bit

0:46:17 > 0:46:21concentrating wondering what's happening here, by the entrance.

0:46:21 > 0:46:27These horses know where they have come from. That will fall them,

0:46:27 > 0:46:30that's a difficult job not because of the high but the positioning and

0:46:30 > 0:46:39delicate nature.Sharp turn.A lot of riders ruling that Pole to see

0:46:39 > 0:46:43how steady it is. Big solid fence, very different to the fences we have

0:46:43 > 0:46:50had so far.News had big solid fence but if you look at these, this is

0:46:50 > 0:46:54not a time for Django. --

0:46:58 > 0:47:02slightest little tap and it falls off and that goes very quickly.

0:47:02 > 0:47:05There will be hardly any time to breathe as you call down that

0:47:05 > 0:47:10corner. The other thing, really important to point this out, as the

0:47:10 > 0:47:16horse is turning, he is looking at 11 and two. Not that one, not that

0:47:16 > 0:47:20one, this one. There has been such a different looking fence on the first

0:47:20 > 0:47:23we have seen from this on the course. Will that surprise any of

0:47:23 > 0:47:28them or are they so used to seeing it so used to it but they are

0:47:28 > 0:47:33careful horses, they would view that with trepidation, this is a leap of

0:47:33 > 0:47:38faith, they cannot see the other side. There could be a ditch, they

0:47:38 > 0:47:46just trust the riders.I'm trusting you. We are actually breaking into a

0:47:46 > 0:47:56canter now. We are striding these fences out as the riders are

0:47:56 > 0:48:01spreading these fences out and this is a very different one. What do I

0:48:01 > 0:48:08think so far? Lorenzo, my friend from Italy.Big cause, very

0:48:08 > 0:48:12technical, everything comes very quickly.Good chance today?I hope

0:48:12 > 0:48:19so.Very different looking fence, six big strides but what is

0:48:19 > 0:48:22important, the water trail. The simulated water tray, there is one

0:48:22 > 0:48:28horse and rider in this field, the horse doesn't like these. Olivier

0:48:28 > 0:48:31Robert. He said the horses by jumping these and there are two of

0:48:31 > 0:48:39these.We will try to find him and a minute! We are at seven, 16 jumping

0:48:39 > 0:48:47on this course. We go down to another big upright. A lot of air in

0:48:47 > 0:48:51between it and so much for the horses to be looking at. The horses

0:48:51 > 0:48:57can see the crowd and everything going on.This is not me really

0:48:57 > 0:49:04thinking, I have got that walk down, three or four? Four. There is a

0:49:04 > 0:49:09really long three strides and it's really long, out here. A really

0:49:09 > 0:49:15short four strides which here. Christian Ahlmann things four. Most

0:49:15 > 0:49:21of the competition will do four. This is difficult, really short and

0:49:21 > 0:49:26will test the concentration of horse and rider. Turning back on yourself.

0:49:26 > 0:49:36Lets you run round to this one. Very bold fences, big wide triple bar.We

0:49:36 > 0:49:42are taking off from here. What is that this is a horse will have to

0:49:42 > 0:49:48cover in the air to clear this. The jump is two meters wide, 1.5 metres

0:49:48 > 0:49:52from here and two metres the other side. We looking at a leap of about

0:49:52 > 0:50:0218 feet. Nine metres in new money. Seven metres. That's a big jump,

0:50:02 > 0:50:06really big stretchy jump and I will walk the distance and you can see,

0:50:06 > 0:50:12just again, this one, if anything happens, that can go down and it

0:50:12 > 0:50:16will fall. Horse and rider will not get hurt. It's important that they

0:50:16 > 0:50:24think of horse and rider welfare. Scurrying on. A snowman fence. The

0:50:24 > 0:50:27horses look at things like that, do they actually see what's going on

0:50:27 > 0:50:31around the jump? Not really. They are concentrating on these fences

0:50:31 > 0:50:38and we have three polls nothing to distinguish. They don't normally

0:50:38 > 0:50:47jump wide rails very well. Normally a little bit wary of a white rail.

0:50:47 > 0:50:58That tent set.Coming down to the entrance of the arena. We are

0:50:58 > 0:51:04turning back away from the entrance and look at this. Looks like a pole

0:51:04 > 0:51:09but it is a little plank and light weight and it could be a problem.

0:51:09 > 0:51:15This is a related distance? One stride in there so you have to get a

0:51:15 > 0:51:19good solid jump in and hope the horse sees the back rail and goes

0:51:19 > 0:51:26forward. We have got one and their high line just there. Here is the

0:51:26 > 0:51:29other water tray you were talking about.

0:51:33 > 0:51:37Three strides, committed three strides but where that is, that is

0:51:37 > 0:51:40pulling the horse closer to that because he is set behind the line,

0:51:40 > 0:51:45that could follow very easily on the three strides and we have the last

0:51:45 > 0:51:53fence, just when you think. You have no time to think.A bit of a

0:51:53 > 0:51:57discussion between Cian O'Connor and then. What do you make of the

0:51:57 > 0:52:06course?Very careful, a lot of poles, told verticals, I think there

0:52:06 > 0:52:12will be falls all around the course, difficult enough.Have a good one.

0:52:12 > 0:52:17Committed five strides to the last, so you have to get yourself

0:52:17 > 0:52:19organised and make sure you concentrate and go right to the

0:52:19 > 0:52:24corner, this is the signature of the courses this week. The defence but

0:52:24 > 0:52:30it looks like the horse are leaping into the crowd. Very difficult to

0:52:30 > 0:52:35jump. You not clear until you jump that one.A lot of jumps in corners

0:52:35 > 0:52:40on the angle. The positioning, as well as the height of the jumps is

0:52:40 > 0:52:48all about control and to focus on the jumps. I think it's that the --

0:52:48 > 0:52:53this is a difficult course. They are going to come up at you very

0:52:53 > 0:52:57quickly. The horse had to get into a rhythm and hope horse and rider are

0:52:57 > 0:53:02working together. That is what Ben was seeing, it is technical.

0:53:02 > 0:53:08Technical and quickfire. There is no respite in this course. They are

0:53:08 > 0:53:13going to comment you like bullets. Thanks for your expertise. Speaking

0:53:13 > 0:53:19of expertise, these two were not competing this began but much to the

0:53:19 > 0:53:22crowd get into like they did turn up to deliver a dressage masterclass

0:53:22 > 0:53:27and showcase some of their youngsters.

0:53:29 > 0:53:35You have been in a massive this year, not competing. The horse was

0:53:35 > 0:53:38in the masterclass which was slightly under the age of experience

0:53:38 > 0:53:42to compete here. Such high hopes for them and we thought maybe we would

0:53:42 > 0:53:47bring them here, showcase them and see how they felt and next year we

0:53:47 > 0:53:52intend to be back here, it's ever favourite sure, we love it. We

0:53:52 > 0:53:54managed to get a piece of the atmosphere by bringing the horses

0:53:54 > 0:54:02here.People love to see you here on that horse, but not any more, does

0:54:02 > 0:54:08feel different on a different horse? Guess it's not the same because I

0:54:08 > 0:54:11had such a partnership with them for so many years and is excess we had

0:54:11 > 0:54:18was unbelievable but the nice thing is that Freestyle is a very exciting

0:54:18 > 0:54:24horse, gets Karel riding for longer, as he keep tellingly, he has turned

0:54:24 > 0:54:3050 and he wants to slow down. -- keeps telling me. It's great for us

0:54:30 > 0:54:36that we can still go out there and bring back some medals, hopefully.

0:54:36 > 0:54:39Carrying British talk for a long time and coming along the right time

0:54:39 > 0:54:44on the right ages, especially for the next Olympics. These are the

0:54:44 > 0:54:49stars of the future, we hope. How different are the?Mount Sinjar on,

0:54:49 > 0:54:54Khan freestyle, never been in this environment before and can cope so

0:54:54 > 0:55:00well with everything. Real performer.Very talented and calm.

0:55:00 > 0:55:06He's a little bit of a chicken where I have to give him the confidence to

0:55:06 > 0:55:10say it's OK but tonight he was fantastic. I had a really good right

0:55:10 > 0:55:16so feel very lucky to have these two after my last horse. What is the

0:55:16 > 0:55:19NextEv for a horse like this.We would like to start the Grand Prix

0:55:19 > 0:55:25career in March. Maybe the World Cup series after that. Hopefully coming

0:55:25 > 0:55:34back here to Olympia.Great to see you here. Great to see so many stars

0:55:34 > 0:55:40from all equestrian disciplines here over the last few days. Not long

0:55:40 > 0:55:42until World Cup showjumping but dressage has its own World Cup and

0:55:42 > 0:55:46two classes here and on Wednesday night it was the Grand Prix

0:55:46 > 0:55:49freestyle which is essentially dressage to music and the honours

0:55:49 > 0:55:55went to Sweden's Patrick Kittel.

0:55:57 > 0:56:02Good to start off with, last by the horse got a little bit deep and

0:56:02 > 0:56:10behind it. The interesting to see if they can keep him up and open in the

0:56:10 > 0:56:13canter work tonight.

0:56:29 > 0:56:40Showing lots of expression.

0:56:42 > 0:56:46Quite careful into that extended trot, didn't rush the horse out of

0:56:46 > 0:56:56balance.

0:57:05 > 0:57:18Correct in the positioning.Actually had more reach and stride.Wasn't as

0:57:18 > 0:57:26spectacular as some we have seen but very correct, like you say.

0:57:26 > 0:57:43What do you think? 7.5 for me.I would agree.There he goes, changes

0:57:43 > 0:57:50the bend and into the right trot and that's quite difficult to do and he

0:57:50 > 0:57:55did it very well, maintaining the horse's balance. It was really nice.

0:57:59 > 0:58:05Seven and three quarters?Gone up a bit!

0:58:16 > 0:58:24Horse just swinging a little bit. Tending to sway a little bit at the

0:58:24 > 0:58:28front. Surprised he did it on the centre line in front of the judge.

0:58:28 > 0:58:33Could have chosen a better place to cover that up.Little bit tense on

0:58:33 > 0:58:51the walk. But relaxing once the reins let longer. Good extended wok.

0:58:52 > 0:58:56Good length of frame and I think he was brave to allow the horse out

0:58:56 > 0:59:01knowing that he might be a bit tense.

0:59:16 > 0:59:20I would like to see just a bit more activity, slowed down a bit too

0:59:20 > 0:59:26much. The changes you can see the horse is starting to get his head

0:59:26 > 0:59:36down a bit again, which will cost him small marks. But it's all about

0:59:36 > 0:59:42margins, isn't it? Competitive classes. Better frame in the

0:59:42 > 0:59:45extended canter.

0:59:50 > 0:59:56And in comparison with last night, the overall frame has much improved.

0:59:56 > 1:00:05Is it a harder test? Not so far particularly.

1:00:17 > 1:00:21Quite a lot of swinging from the rider there.

1:00:32 > 1:00:35it's not a hard test but so far everything is coming off and that's

1:00:35 > 1:00:37the difference, isn't it?

1:01:25 > 1:01:34It is a funny combination of being elastic but without energy, got

1:01:34 > 1:01:39energy but not quite put in the right place. What he doesn't do is

1:01:39 > 1:01:45support himself enough with his hind leg which is why he tends to splay a

1:01:45 > 1:01:50little bit. Then the outline of the frame goes and he drops down. Lovely

1:01:50 > 1:01:55all the same. He can be very pleased with that.

1:01:58 > 1:02:03I think the smile says it all, congratulations. Did you expect to

1:02:03 > 1:02:07win this class this evening?Not at all I didn't expect anything, just

1:02:07 > 1:02:13wanted to do a good and he went really well, it was really close. To

1:02:13 > 1:02:18night I came out on top. This is a very special arena and the crowd are

1:02:18 > 1:02:22absolutely on top of you when you are in there. Is this something you

1:02:22 > 1:02:27knew your horse would appreciate and settle or was it an unknown? He

1:02:27 > 1:02:32loves it, I love the people so close, they can almost touch the

1:02:32 > 1:02:38horse, I love that because we need the crowd to feel the riders and the

1:02:38 > 1:02:42horse. I love that about London. It was a mammoth journey to get here,

1:02:42 > 1:02:47tell is about the journey and what you had to do to compete at Olympia.

1:02:47 > 1:02:50The planes were cancelled because of the weather and I took the car and

1:02:50 > 1:02:54it was thing was cancelled, we drove from Germany and it took 13 hours to

1:02:54 > 1:02:58get to London but once settled in it was such a show and I would travel

1:02:58 > 1:03:02three days to get here. Congratulations, well-deserved.

1:03:02 > 1:03:06Great result for Patrik Kittel. Fabulous result for ML Fourier who

1:03:06 > 1:03:11was second with his new horse delay sheer. He said he wasn't a surprise

1:03:11 > 1:03:16to be second, it was a miracle. Ones to watch for the future. It is time

1:03:16 > 1:03:19for World Cup showjumping, we can join our

1:03:24 > 1:03:26COMMENTATOR: Anticipation is building in the Grand Hall at

1:03:26 > 1:03:30Olympia ahead of the Longines FEI World Cup Andy Austin is alongside

1:03:30 > 1:03:37me, you have walked the clause, what can we expect? -- walked the course.

1:03:37 > 1:03:44Right into the big box, we start with two oxers, two Power fencers

1:03:44 > 1:03:51and into this difficult related distance. This is a moment on the

1:03:51 > 1:03:56course when they can relax but now here is the real deal, huge

1:03:56 > 1:03:59combination, big oxer, short stride through vertical, and then a very

1:03:59 > 1:04:04difficult oxer coming out and soon you jump that you've got to go over

1:04:04 > 1:04:09the left-handed one over another 160 vertical, a big wall here, quickly

1:04:09 > 1:04:17off the corner, six floaty strides up to the water tray. A very short

1:04:17 > 1:04:20light distance to this vertical, that's going to be a difficult fence

1:04:20 > 1:04:27to jump in the corner. Here is the triple bar, Tim talked about how

1:04:27 > 1:04:32wide this was earlier. They love having a wide vertical after a

1:04:32 > 1:04:35triple bar, always difficult to jump. The horse is tiring towards

1:04:35 > 1:04:40the end of the course. The big double, you need a lot of power to

1:04:40 > 1:04:43jump out of the double, and then that last fence coming round the

1:04:43 > 1:04:49corner very quickly. They will be tired at the end of this course. Are

1:04:49 > 1:04:55you surprised by the cause, or is it what you expected? It is a typical

1:04:55 > 1:04:59Olympia World Cup, technical, very light and plenty big enough. We want

1:04:59 > 1:05:05it to be difficult, it is after all the Longines FEI World Cup. 13

1:05:05 > 1:05:09nations represented, 36 competitors, nine of them representing Great

1:05:09 > 1:05:13Britain. The first of those 36 comes in in front of this packed house in

1:05:13 > 1:05:24this intense arena now. This is Anna-Julia Kontio riding the Bay

1:05:24 > 1:05:35nine-year-old gelding Lorenzo of oxer.Always interesting the first

1:05:35 > 1:05:38competitor in, we want to see how other course will write and what the

1:05:38 > 1:05:41distances looked like and crucially the time allowed which is 70

1:05:41 > 1:05:44seconds.

1:05:59 > 1:06:04Finland, our first competitor, Anna-Julia Kontio riding Lorenzo.

1:06:04 > 1:06:14Lovely Holstein Kiel gelding by Landos. Coming into that first big

1:06:14 > 1:06:25oxer, the first two fences should be relatively straightforward. Five

1:06:25 > 1:06:29level strides into the third. This is the big line we talked about now.

1:06:29 > 1:06:48Huge combination. Very well ridden. There is a lot of very quickly. Six

1:06:48 > 1:06:52strides seemed to be OK but they've just got to sit up. Beautifully

1:06:52 > 1:07:03ridden there. So, so far, really good round. Oh! Got too close, and

1:07:03 > 1:07:07extra stride into the vertical after the triple bar, that's going to be a

1:07:07 > 1:07:13difficult problem for everybody. You can see, I said horses would tire at

1:07:13 > 1:07:16the end of this course, this one definitely losing a bit of shape and

1:07:16 > 1:07:22jump. It's a really tough course at the end.It all started so well but

1:07:22 > 1:07:27ended rather in disappointment. Three fences down, four faults for

1:07:27 > 1:07:33each fence, so 12 faults for Anna-Julia Kontio and Lorenzo, 12

1:07:33 > 1:07:38penalties, just inside the time allowed as you can see. Started

1:07:38 > 1:07:41well, Andy. This is where it all went wrong, instead of keeping

1:07:41 > 1:07:44moving ran in too close to the vertical and that rather unsettled

1:07:44 > 1:07:47her horse, you could see the shape of the jump went quite badly over

1:07:47 > 1:07:55the next double. So, the end of the course is crucial, it's very hard

1:07:55 > 1:08:01for the horses to keep concentrating for so long. The first now of the

1:08:01 > 1:08:05nine British competitors in this Longines FEI World Cup. This is

1:08:05 > 1:08:15Robert Smith riding his own and Karina Reily's Ilton. Great to see

1:08:15 > 1:08:19Robert Smith riding at the top level, such an experienced

1:08:19 > 1:08:22competitor, he has run this three times but the Last Time he ran it

1:08:22 > 1:08:33was in 2005.He's had a very long career.Down.This Ilton is only a

1:08:33 > 1:08:36nine-year-old and this would be one of the biggest classes this horse

1:08:36 > 1:08:43has jumped.

1:08:48 > 1:08:52Robert Smith, son of the very famous Hadi that so many riders of my

1:08:52 > 1:09:00generation were inspired to get into the sport by Harvey. The first two

1:09:00 > 1:09:03riders are finding this course is tough enough. I think the first

1:09:03 > 1:09:07group of riders that we've got are not the biggest names, not the most

1:09:07 > 1:09:10fancied horses. We are not going to see too many clear rounds in the

1:09:10 > 1:09:12first ten.

1:09:17 > 1:09:23The first part of that double is really sticking up in the air when

1:09:23 > 1:09:26the horses are tired. And another horse really struggling at the end

1:09:26 > 1:09:32of the round. And one time penalty as well, just over the time allowed

1:09:32 > 1:09:38of 70 seconds, so 21 penalties in total for Robert Smith and Ilton.

1:09:38 > 1:09:43Just picking up on what you were saying, Andy, it seems the course

1:09:43 > 1:09:47builders are testing scope and power early and then they are asking for

1:09:47 > 1:09:51precision later which makes it doubly difficult.Exactly. When

1:09:51 > 1:09:55horses are tiring and the reason it is tiring is not because it is a

1:09:55 > 1:09:59long course, it's because there is no breather. If jumping outside

1:09:59 > 1:10:03Exton with a huge arena you can relax in some of The Open spaces but

1:10:03 > 1:10:07this is incredibly intense. The first two accommodations finding it

1:10:07 > 1:10:15tough.Extreme level of concentration required here as our

1:10:15 > 1:10:20third competitor comes into the arena are representing Spain riding

1:10:20 > 1:10:34Cuidam this is Manuel Fernandez Saro.Manuel riding for Spain, he is

1:10:34 > 1:10:39based in Holland. This is a Dutch bred horse by Verdi, the famous

1:10:39 > 1:10:44Italian Maikel Van der Vleuten has won so much on, so this one

1:10:44 > 1:10:52certainly has the breeding. Manuel is a very experienced rider. He

1:10:52 > 1:10:59competed in the Olympics last year. This is a horse with a lot of scope.

1:10:59 > 1:11:02So we have seen quite a few competitors get to this point in the

1:11:02 > 1:11:05course and they look reasonably comfortable but the pressure now

1:11:05 > 1:11:14really starts to come on towards the end. That's exactly what I'm talking

1:11:14 > 1:11:17about. Complete lack of concentration, four sure strides

1:11:17 > 1:11:25running straight into that one. Just four slightly open strides there.

1:11:25 > 1:11:31Can't really add an extra one. This is the fence they have found so

1:11:31 > 1:11:37tough. Super careful there. That was really good.

1:11:39 > 1:11:47Oh! That was hard luck. That's a shame. Tipped that poll at the last

1:11:47 > 1:11:51meaning two down and ate penalties for Manuel Fernandez Saro. In the

1:11:51 > 1:11:56context of what we have seen, quite a respectable round.Yes, it was a

1:11:56 > 1:12:01good round but quite a bad mistake if you watch the vertical, ran in

1:12:01 > 1:12:04way too close, it was with a big stride and found it hard to shorten.

1:12:04 > 1:12:10Unlucky if you watch him at the last fence. Just slightly tired, couldn't

1:12:10 > 1:12:16quite get the back end away.At this very early stage Manuel Fernandez

1:12:16 > 1:12:23Saro and Cuidam are out in front, but so much to enjoy. This man, at

1:12:23 > 1:12:28Olympia once again riding the form horse Callisto blew, Michael

1:12:28 > 1:12:37Whitaker.This is one of the best horses Michael has got his hands on

1:12:37 > 1:12:45in the last few years, still inexperienced, lovely ten-year-old

1:12:45 > 1:12:47gelding by Chacco Blue and he has been picking up a few points in the

1:12:47 > 1:12:55World Cup qualifiers, eating placed in Oslo, Madrid. Currently 14th in

1:12:55 > 1:12:58the league.

1:13:08 > 1:13:13Just made everyone's heart flutter. That's his inexperience. You see how

1:13:13 > 1:13:17brilliantly talented he is but for a young horse this is such an intense

1:13:17 > 1:13:21atmosphere and he just took his eye off that fence and caught Michael

1:13:21 > 1:13:26out. He gets four faults for that refusal, and also he's going to get

1:13:26 > 1:13:30a load of time faults and he's going to be well over the 70 seconds so

1:13:30 > 1:13:35that's Michael's chance is gone today. But let's keep watching this

1:13:35 > 1:13:39horse because this is a super talented jumper. Is the kind of

1:13:39 > 1:13:42horse that in the future would like to see Michael riding on British

1:13:42 > 1:13:46teams with.

1:13:47 > 1:13:51But I love the fact that Michael is such a professional he hasn't

1:13:51 > 1:13:57allowed that upset to faze him. He's kept up and back into his rhythm,

1:13:57 > 1:14:00giving the horse confidence. Obviously a mistake there. But this

1:14:00 > 1:14:04is a horse to keep your eye on. It has a lot of talent.

1:14:04 > 1:14:10APPLAUSE Well, that early run out and

1:14:10 > 1:14:23obstacles down mean a total of 12 penalties for Callisto blue.And

1:14:23 > 1:14:25Michael Whitaker. Watch this. Michael knew what he was doing but

1:14:25 > 1:14:30the horse thought, and I meant to jump that one? It comes so quickly

1:14:30 > 1:14:35on an angle. That was just a bit of a novice mistake going into the

1:14:35 > 1:14:39double and then he has to use his vast experience and presence of mind

1:14:39 > 1:14:45to ensure this ultimately is a positive experience for this horse.

1:14:45 > 1:14:51Which it actually was in the end.12 penalties for Michael Whitaker, as

1:14:51 > 1:14:54the next competitor comes in, also for Great Britain, and another

1:14:54 > 1:15:04familiar name indeed, riding Denise Stamp's Billy Mccain, this is

1:15:04 > 1:15:08William Funnell.This is a great campaigner, William Funnell, a

1:15:08 > 1:15:13stalwart of the British team for many years, he breeds hundreds of

1:15:13 > 1:15:21horses. This is one he has bred out of an Irish mother. The owner,

1:15:21 > 1:15:25Denise Stamp, I spoke to her earlier in the week and she was very nervous

1:15:25 > 1:15:28and excited about this horse jumping for the first time in the World Cup.

1:15:28 > 1:15:33This one is only nine years old. He will need all of William's

1:15:33 > 1:15:36experience to get him round.

1:15:39 > 1:15:46You can see only a young horse but very talented indeed.

1:15:57 > 1:16:02Shortening up there. That was the difficulty for all these younger

1:16:02 > 1:16:10horses, to be able to shorten quickly after such a wide oxer.

1:16:10 > 1:16:13William Funnell is using all of his experience. He is such a lovely

1:16:13 > 1:16:23rider to watch. I think it's important to remember, although you

1:16:23 > 1:16:26are seeing a few fences coming down there, these younger horses are

1:16:26 > 1:16:30going into a completely different level of competition so we mustn't

1:16:30 > 1:16:35be too hard on them.12 penalties, three fences down for William

1:16:35 > 1:16:42Funnell and Billy Mccain. You heard from Di Lampard earlier saying they

1:16:42 > 1:16:46want young and exciting horses in British hands to try and rebuild

1:16:46 > 1:16:50teams for the future. We just seemed two horses, I know they have had a

1:16:50 > 1:16:55couple of problems, but they are horses back and have a future on

1:16:55 > 1:16:58British teams and give them another year or two with these top riders

1:16:58 > 1:17:05they will be there or thereabouts. More to come, for sure, as William

1:17:05 > 1:17:08Funnell heads back out to the collecting area and we welcome our

1:17:08 > 1:17:18next competitor. And this for Spain riding Kaliyuga's Rokfeller de

1:17:18 > 1:17:31Pleville Bois Mar, Eduardo Alvarez Aznar.Eduardo Alvarez Aznar, the

1:17:31 > 1:17:35son of the great Olympic showjumper and event rider, which is one of

1:17:35 > 1:17:39those very rare combinations, one or two people like Sir Mark Todd have

1:17:39 > 1:17:49achieved that. This young man, lovely rider, very stylish. You have

1:17:49 > 1:17:54to say at the moment we are a long way off seeing a clear round. This

1:17:54 > 1:18:00is a long way off what we expected. A lot of fantastic top combinations

1:18:00 > 1:18:10still to come towards the end of the field. That seems to be the hardest

1:18:10 > 1:18:15line at the moment, early on in the course. The horses have put so much

1:18:15 > 1:18:18effort in. By little white delicate vertical is very hard to jump on a

1:18:18 > 1:18:29short distance. -- light vertical. Four faults would definitely put him

1:18:29 > 1:18:37into the lead at the moment. Inside the time allowed as well

1:18:37 > 1:18:40comfortable, so into the lead with those four faults goes Eduardo

1:18:40 > 1:18:47Alvarez Aznar.There was a lovely rhythmic stillness to his riding

1:18:47 > 1:18:52this week.He is a classic course man, a lot of feel for what is going

1:18:52 > 1:18:58on. Just watch here, very tight distance, it means the horses must

1:18:58 > 1:19:03shorten their stride very quickly. That seems to be a fence that is

1:19:03 > 1:19:11going to take a lot of jumping. Eduardo Alvarez Aznar into the lead

1:19:11 > 1:19:24with just the one fence down. As into the arena now riding Ugo

1:19:24 > 1:19:33Pisani's grey stallion kasbah, Emanuele Gaudiano for Italy --

1:19:33 > 1:19:46Caspar.Great big strong stallion by a good stallion, Berlin. Emanuel

1:19:46 > 1:19:51Gaudiano has won this class in 2015 but it doesn't look like he's going

1:19:51 > 1:19:59to win today. Early fence down.

1:20:02 > 1:20:07Very interesting to see how Italian showjumping is having a fantastic

1:20:07 > 1:20:10renaissance at the moment. We have another couple of great Italian

1:20:10 > 1:20:20riders to come in this class. They are right at the top of the sport.

1:20:20 > 1:20:24He is one of the riders who has been able to get the shore distanced to

1:20:24 > 1:20:32that vertical. Very annoying early fence down.

1:20:39 > 1:20:45That double. The horse is tiring again towards the end of the course.

1:20:45 > 1:20:50So, disappointment for Emanuel Gaudiano, 12 penalties and three

1:20:50 > 1:20:53down.

1:20:55 > 1:21:02Michael Whitaker, Ron Howard, you didn't expect that, did you?I

1:21:02 > 1:21:06didn't, I don't think even got his eye on the fence, he didn't expect

1:21:06 > 1:21:12it to be there and saw it at the last minute -- run out.We can take

1:21:12 > 1:21:20a look at it now.He is flying now. He just jumps out, I think he was

1:21:20 > 1:21:25surprised by the fence being there. How tricky is this course? It is

1:21:25 > 1:21:28tricky, a tricky big cause, everything has to be bang right,

1:21:28 > 1:21:32everything has to be dead right otherwise you will not jump clear.

1:21:32 > 1:21:33Bad luck today.

1:21:38 > 1:21:42COMMENTATOR: Michael Whitaker has a lot of context to judge the course.

1:21:42 > 1:21:46Goodness knows family thousands he has jumped in his career. Another

1:21:46 > 1:21:55experienced competitor riding S.C.E.A. De Lillebec's Rouge de

1:21:55 > 1:22:01Ravel, this is Guy Williams for Great Britain.

1:22:04 > 1:22:12Seven riders gone. The best score so far, just eight faults. 12 faults

1:22:12 > 1:22:16plus the rest. It is a tough course. It's what we expect. We will see

1:22:16 > 1:22:27what Guy Williams can do.

1:22:28 > 1:22:35Guy is riding with his normal strong determination, he is a strong rider.

1:22:35 > 1:22:39He will have to work hard at the end of this course. You can see he's

1:22:39 > 1:22:51already kicking and pulling a bit. He was unlucky there.

1:23:00 > 1:23:03Another competitor towards the end of the course, you can see the

1:23:03 > 1:23:05horses that are slightly outside their comfort zone, they really get

1:23:05 > 1:23:11tired down the last line.Five fences down in the end including all

1:23:11 > 1:23:22three parts of the final combination, 20 penalties for Guy

1:23:22 > 1:23:26Williams and Rouge de Ravel. He was riding with dynamism at the

1:23:26 > 1:23:30beginning but the horse could not sustain that pace. The guy is a

1:23:30 > 1:23:35talented rider, no mistake about it, but you can't ride around this track

1:23:35 > 1:23:41on a horse that is less than 100% on his job. There is only so much the

1:23:41 > 1:23:44rider can do.

1:23:49 > 1:24:02So, next, riding his own hand Maria Traber's Bay gelding from

1:24:02 > 1:24:11Switzerland, Lord Pepsi, Paul Estermann.Paul Estermann is a very

1:24:11 > 1:24:16experienced Swiss team member, he's been around the sport for a very

1:24:16 > 1:24:25long time. This horse has come through in the last year or so. It's

1:24:25 > 1:24:30one of those horses that on his day can jump any track. He does have the

1:24:30 > 1:24:36ability.This horse is 11 now.Just coming into his best years.Is that

1:24:36 > 1:24:41the sweet spot for a showjumper? Between ten and 15 is the best

1:24:41 > 1:24:44years. This horse over the last couple of years has been finding his

1:24:44 > 1:24:53feet at 5-star level and he is capable of jumping round here. That

1:24:53 > 1:24:58was unlucky. Nothing Paul could have done differently, he got his

1:24:58 > 1:25:04distance and his rhythm right. That last double is proving hard. It is

1:25:04 > 1:25:09such a light plank. I think horses are a little bit shot away by the

1:25:09 > 1:25:13time they get to that part of the track. Two down, one of the better

1:25:13 > 1:25:18rounds we have seen so far puts him into second place, Paul Estermann,

1:25:18 > 1:25:24behind Eduardo Alvarez Aznar with eight penalties. We saw on the

1:25:24 > 1:25:28course walk with Tim and Lee how these polls really needed just a

1:25:28 > 1:25:32breath to come off those shallow cups. They are incredibly light. The

1:25:32 > 1:25:36plank going into the double, just breathe on it and it's going to come

1:25:36 > 1:25:39down.The first part of that competition has caught so many

1:25:39 > 1:25:42outcome is that because of the proximity to the bend, there is no

1:25:42 > 1:25:46room of a corner? It is partly that but also because it's at the end of

1:25:46 > 1:25:48the course when the horse has been under so much intense pressure to

1:25:48 > 1:25:58keep jumping.OK, next in, a horse who has been competing extensively

1:25:58 > 1:26:05in the United States but ridden by the Britain Amanda Derbyshire,

1:26:05 > 1:26:16Luibanta, owned by Tim feat.Great to see Amanda here at Olympia. --

1:26:16 > 1:26:20owned by Gochman Sport Horse. He said I could get you a job in

1:26:20 > 1:26:24America and one thing led to another and now she has a great team of

1:26:24 > 1:26:28horses and worked her way up to the top of the sport. She is a very

1:26:28 > 1:26:34talented young lady and it's great to see her making the trip from the

1:26:34 > 1:26:39states where she is based to command jump at Olympia. You've been excited

1:26:39 > 1:26:43to see this horse jumping here today, haven't you?We really wanted

1:26:43 > 1:26:48to see this horse jump this track. Is this a horse that could jump on

1:26:48 > 1:26:53British teams? Very unlucky there. Still jumping a good round.

1:27:01 > 1:27:06Just to put this round into context, this is the tenth rider in. The best

1:27:06 > 1:27:18we have had is eight faults. We have had one on four faults. It is a

1:27:18 > 1:27:24really tough course. And again, started promisingly but the wheels

1:27:24 > 1:27:28gradually began to fall off a little bit.We are getting a pattern here,

1:27:28 > 1:27:34aren't we? They start off well. The horses are finding it OK. Very often

1:27:34 > 1:27:38that early vertical comes down and the first part of this double is

1:27:38 > 1:27:41incredibly hard to jump. The horses have to be so accurate and careful

1:27:41 > 1:27:49when they are a little bit tired. So, 12, three down for Amanda

1:27:49 > 1:27:57Derbyshire and Luibanta. Great to see her at Olympia. Next, into the

1:27:57 > 1:28:02arena the 11th competitor in this Longines FEI World Cup, riding his

1:28:02 > 1:28:15own Uno de la Roque, for Belgium, Francois Mathy. This horse is

1:28:15 > 1:28:23technically French but the breeding is Dutch, the famous Dutch stallion

1:28:23 > 1:28:30is Numero Uno and the mother is the great Kannan so very good blood. He

1:28:30 > 1:28:36is well over six feet. He was born and bred in the saddle, his father

1:28:36 > 1:28:39was a brilliant rider in his own right and one of the world's leading

1:28:39 > 1:28:46horse dealers so he is sort of born and bred into the job.

1:28:49 > 1:28:54We have seen Francois Mathy in England earlier this year, fourth in

1:28:54 > 1:29:03the Grand Prix at bowls worth. He writes a number of different horses

1:29:03 > 1:29:09around the European circuit. I like the way that big horse was able to

1:29:09 > 1:29:18quickly get over that tricky vertical. He has had that annoying

1:29:18 > 1:29:24early fence down but well worth concentrating to see if he can stay

1:29:24 > 1:29:35on four faults. Not to be.Into a share of second place with eight

1:29:35 > 1:29:42faults, Francois Mathy junior. Having the Katiba the first two part

1:29:42 > 1:29:46of that tricky, nation effectively it was the final part of the water

1:29:46 > 1:29:51tray underneath that caught him out -- having negotiated. Most of the

1:29:51 > 1:29:56horses have been finding it OK. Again, you can jump a good round

1:29:56 > 1:30:06around here and still have two down. The water tray possibly took his eye

1:30:06 > 1:30:17off the top rail. So, 84 Francois Mathy and next for Great Britain,

1:30:17 > 1:30:22riding his own and Elisan's Fandango, one of the most

1:30:22 > 1:30:31experienced horses in this field, it is William Whitaker. great to watch

1:30:31 > 1:30:38William Wright. Very elegant and stylish. He was our only represented

1:30:38 > 1:30:49in the Europeans at Gothenburg this year. Fandango, 14 years of age,

1:30:49 > 1:31:01very experienced horse. Still looking for our first clear round

1:31:01 > 1:31:09and it is not going to be this one. It's always interesting to note that

1:31:09 > 1:31:13it's not was the biggest fences that cause problems, it's just that

1:31:13 > 1:31:18vertical, which is not the biggest, in a difficult place on a short four

1:31:18 > 1:31:30strides after a big oxer.Brilliant round. Very unlucky.Into a share of

1:31:30 > 1:31:36the lead. We will have a jump off whether it is four faults or clear

1:31:36 > 1:31:42is remains to be seen. We are in the early stages. William Whitaker one

1:31:42 > 1:31:46down and that was arguably the best round we seen. Here is the short

1:31:46 > 1:31:52stride distance, jumped a bit on the right-hand side. Great round from

1:31:52 > 1:31:59William Whitaker. Fit perfect everywhere else. The back foot

1:32:02 > 1:32:07winces a little. But you never know, you might have done enough. We will

1:32:07 > 1:32:13see some clears, I will stick my neck out.We have a really exciting

1:32:13 > 1:32:17clutch of four in her role in ten horses time but let's not forget

1:32:17 > 1:32:30those in between times and this is our next competitor. Wilm Vermeer.A

1:32:30 > 1:32:34rider with lots of wins and lots of form, mostly at sea and four star

1:32:34 > 1:32:41shows. He won the Grand Prix this year. Only a nine-year-old.

1:32:45 > 1:32:51Those of you interested in pack and bridles. Have a look, it less

1:32:51 > 1:32:57bridal, nothing in his mouth. How would you like to ride round there

1:32:57 > 1:33:02was no bit in the horse's mouth. Some horses are happier if you just

1:33:02 > 1:33:03leave them alone.

1:33:06 > 1:33:11Tell me the different sensation of riding with that bridal especially

1:33:11 > 1:33:14on a course like this. What happens is you don't get anything like the

1:33:14 > 1:33:21same feeling. You have to give the horse a bit more trust and freedom.

1:33:21 > 1:33:25Very often horses are a bit sensitive in the mouth and they will

1:33:25 > 1:33:35jump better if you have nothing at all on it. Two baldie fences, if we

1:33:35 > 1:33:45can call them that and come down again. Tough round. Wilm Vermeer,

1:33:45 > 1:33:52four down, 16 penalties.

1:33:52 > 1:33:52again. Tough round. Wilm Vermeer, four down, 16 penalties. Amanda

1:33:52 > 1:33:56Berisha, just watching all these rounds and to get a clear is so

1:33:56 > 1:34:00tricky and it seems like you're around, a lot of the horses are

1:34:00 > 1:34:04coming towards the latter stages, why is that what might a lot of big

1:34:04 > 1:34:08jumping efforts and by the end of the course the horses are getting

1:34:08 > 1:34:12tired.The jumps are massive tonight, come down very easily.

1:34:12 > 1:34:16Hopefully there will be a couple of clears near the end.How technical

1:34:16 > 1:34:20is it?Pretty technical, in the small ring there is not much room

1:34:20 > 1:34:25for error. If you don't see the one off the turn, you don't have much

1:34:25 > 1:34:30chance.COMMENTATOR:

1:34:30 > 1:34:32off the turn, you don't have much chance.COMMENTATOR: Well done to

1:34:32 > 1:34:37Amanda Darbyshire. She had see down, 12 penalties. You never guess she'd

1:34:37 > 1:34:46spent time in America! Here is the heroine of the Puissance, riding the

1:34:46 > 1:34:59winner. Laura Renwick.Top dollar, massive scope, can he stay cheerful?

1:34:59 > 1:35:05It was tough for him in the class after the Puissance looked tired.

1:35:05 > 1:35:09Had a chance to regroup, try to get the horse more settled on the hops

1:35:09 > 1:35:13because she cannot afford to let him run on and open his stride up to

1:35:13 > 1:35:20much. No doubt about this horse's ability. Can get a little bit

1:35:20 > 1:35:30headstrong.Will he shorten up here? She's taken a stride out and jumped

1:35:30 > 1:35:39it. That's the way to do it.She went for it as well.She had a plan.

1:35:39 > 1:35:43She has got one. That's where having taking your stride out, he was to

1:35:43 > 1:35:48forward down the next distance whether anybody can do that than an

1:35:48 > 1:35:53shorten for the other distances, I don't know. She had a plan, stop to

1:35:53 > 1:35:58it if she can clear the last it's a very good road and indeed.Guedes,

1:35:58 > 1:36:03into a share of the league, Laura Renwick. She's had a splendid week,

1:36:03 > 1:36:07a real crowd pleaser and this horse has bounced right back today after a

1:36:07 > 1:36:14disappointing round two nights ago. Brilliant effort from Laura,

1:36:14 > 1:36:19desperately unlucky, just took hold of it a bit much after the triple

1:36:19 > 1:36:25bar. Let's have a look at this. Three strides. Long way off it but

1:36:25 > 1:36:30that worked better than everyone has tried to put forward. Here he is

1:36:30 > 1:36:36pulling, look at the ground he makes up, wanted everything to shorten him

1:36:36 > 1:36:41up and couldn't do enough. Great effort from Laura.They horse with a

1:36:41 > 1:36:51huge stride, only an eight-year-old but he's got some engine.Next. For

1:36:51 > 1:37:03Austria its Christian Ron Berg. Christian Ron Berg. Clear Mackie is

1:37:03 > 1:37:18a big winner, has won a four Grand Prix this summer. Lovely big

1:37:29 > 1:37:35he's had one down but he's rattled the number. Lucky he hasn't had more

1:37:35 > 1:37:39down. If he can get round here for four faults he is doing extremely

1:37:39 > 1:37:46well. He has jumped that tricky vertical, can he keep it going?

1:37:46 > 1:37:50Looking very untidy and he's all over the place. All the control

1:37:50 > 1:37:55went. Big double bridal but they were not on the same page, horse and

1:37:55 > 1:38:01rider at all. If you come off the corner and you don't have the

1:38:01 > 1:38:04straight, you can't possibly change your mind, you have to keep coming

1:38:04 > 1:38:11with what you've got. There is no space. It's hard to understand

1:38:11 > 1:38:17unless you've ridden just big horses in a small arena, this is incredibly

1:38:17 > 1:38:21intense for an experience, it is coming at you, jumped after jump.

1:38:21 > 1:38:31Ironically now the pressure is off and jumping beautifully.APPLAUSE

1:38:31 > 1:38:38And upside-down round from Christian Ron Berg for Austria. -- Rhomberg.

1:38:38 > 1:38:40There will be more to add.

1:38:40 > 1:38:42Ron Berg for Austria. -- Rhomberg. There will be more to add. William

1:38:42 > 1:38:45Whitaker, you never want to get one down but that is not looking too

1:38:45 > 1:38:51bad. It's a tough course out there, comes at you thick and fast.I was

1:38:51 > 1:38:55pleased with the way my horse jumped. Just a pity to pick up those

1:38:55 > 1:39:01faults.Will we have any clears going forward? I would think so.You

1:39:01 > 1:39:07look down the list and see who is to come at the, some of the best in the

1:39:07 > 1:39:10world, we will definitely get clears, but hopefully not too many

1:39:10 > 1:39:15so I picked up a bit of money.A realistic assessment or try to put

1:39:15 > 1:39:21it down?Spoken like a true Yorkshireman, looking for some place

1:39:21 > 1:39:27money.For France, the competitor that Tim Stockdale told you was

1:39:27 > 1:39:34worried about the water tray. This is Olivier Robert.Olivier Robert

1:39:34 > 1:39:38has been riding this horse for the honour for a while and he liked it

1:39:38 > 1:39:41too much cheaper to much he put his own money into his pocket and bought

1:39:41 > 1:39:47the horse himself. He is worried about the water tray, some horses

1:39:47 > 1:39:51don't like the blue on the floor and it can put the brakes on them. That

1:39:51 > 1:39:54might be adjusting as we go run the cause but this is a very talented

1:39:54 > 1:40:05jumper. There we are, commentator's kiss of death.A fair bet so far.At

1:40:05 > 1:40:10the moment we can have faults anywhere on this course but a big

1:40:10 > 1:40:17scope of a horse. No problem with that water tray. But at the moment

1:40:17 > 1:40:23no clears, four faults and can still get a lot of prize money down the

1:40:23 > 1:40:27line.

1:40:33 > 1:40:37He is a class jumper because the way he jumped that double is as good as

1:40:37 > 1:40:42anybody but he looked into the water tray there. Not about round all the

1:40:42 > 1:40:47same from Olivier Robert. Eight penalties. Three sharing the lead at

1:40:47 > 1:40:54the moment. William Whitaker, Alberto Asner

1:40:55 > 1:41:00You don't want to have one down but it's not a bad place to be. You're

1:41:00 > 1:41:05pretty happy at the moment?I spoke the other night and he was

1:41:05 > 1:41:09incredible them. To jump class like this at his age and give a

1:41:09 > 1:41:13performance like that, I am over the moon, he put on the performance of

1:41:13 > 1:41:17his life.Talking to the riders about how tricky the courses, very

1:41:17 > 1:41:23technical, isn't it?Incredibly technical. The first four fences are

1:41:23 > 1:41:28nicely spread out and then it is boom, boom, boom. He's still tries

1:41:28 > 1:41:36to do the jumps from each and his first World Cup, really pleased.

1:41:36 > 1:41:36to do the jumps from each and his first World Cup, really pleased.

1:41:36 > 1:41:40A share of the lead for Laura Renwick, as things stand, at the

1:41:40 > 1:41:49halfway point at the moment. 16 of 36. It is Geir Gulliksen from

1:41:49 > 1:41:59Norway. A chestnut gelding. Relatively new horse for Geir

1:41:59 > 1:42:06Gulliksen. Previously ridden by Cian O'Connor and Eduardo Aznar. This is

1:42:06 > 1:42:10a horse with plenty of talent, Geir Gulliksen has been around a long

1:42:10 > 1:42:15time and ridden lots of different horses. He needed some new talent

1:42:15 > 1:42:21and this is a horse with a lot of ability.

1:42:33 > 1:42:42Hard luck. Did everything he could to get balanced. The way that

1:42:42 > 1:42:46vertical rides, some horses just keep running into it and there is

1:42:46 > 1:42:51nothing the riders can do. Still looking for that clear, is it going

1:42:51 > 1:42:55to come? You assured me Edward, Andy, I'm convinced we got some

1:42:55 > 1:42:59quality towards the end of the track. William Whitaker said, we are

1:42:59 > 1:43:05going to get some clears. I'm sure. Just over the time allowed as well

1:43:05 > 1:43:10so there will be a penalty to add to the jumping penalty. 13 penalties

1:43:10 > 1:43:16for Geir Gulliksen.

1:43:20 > 1:43:24Getting repetitive to say it but just watch it do everything to

1:43:24 > 1:43:28shorten up for the vertical but the horse just disregarded and keeps

1:43:28 > 1:43:32running to the end of the arena.

1:43:41 > 1:43:46You can see the riders's faces when they come out, it's a tough course.

1:43:46 > 1:43:51Geir Gulliksen a bit disappointed. Will there be more joy for the

1:43:51 > 1:43:58United States of America now? Laura Kraut, a new Grand Prix horse and

1:43:58 > 1:44:05from what I know, you're excited about this horse.Fascinating to see

1:44:05 > 1:44:08how she will jump in this tight arena, we have seen him jump

1:44:08 > 1:44:16outdoors very successfully. He was placed on the Rolex Grand Prix in

1:44:16 > 1:44:20Geneva just recently but this is a different kettle of fish and he has

1:44:20 > 1:44:32already got an early fan stand, Confu. Confu Definitely seems to be

1:44:32 > 1:44:37suited to the bigger arena. But this is a horse with an enormous amount

1:44:37 > 1:44:43of power and school but a lot of the riders have said, this course is all

1:44:43 > 1:44:44about horses being incredibly careful in keeping their

1:44:44 > 1:45:02concentration. Definitely showed his class there.

1:45:02 > 1:45:06That early fence that Laura had their own, she has done very well,

1:45:06 > 1:45:14forgotten about it. Confu Showing his ability at the end of the track,

1:45:14 > 1:45:20can she get home with four faults, close to the time. She will look

1:45:20 > 1:45:24back on that round with a mixture of satisfaction and frustration because

1:45:24 > 1:45:29it was one of the easiest fences that she had down and early on.

1:45:29 > 1:45:35Other than that she goes into a share of the lead.Laura will see

1:45:35 > 1:45:38the positives in this but that second fence, very straightforward

1:45:38 > 1:45:44oxer, normally Confu would jump that 99 times out of 100 but I love the

1:45:44 > 1:45:49way he jumped that double. Showed his ability. They horse with

1:45:49 > 1:46:00abundant talent, Confu, Laura Kraut part of the quartet on four faults

1:46:00 > 1:46:17each. Next, there were 19 competitor to go.From Italy, Lorenzo De Luca.

1:46:17 > 1:46:26Do you like his outfit?Italian's military uniforms are quite

1:46:26 > 1:46:38spectacular!Limestone grey, an Irish gelding. 11 years old. It's

1:46:38 > 1:46:40been fantastic to watch Lorenzo De Luca over the last three years climb

1:46:40 > 1:46:49up the rankings riding for the very powerful stables. I thought he was

1:46:49 > 1:46:54going to believe that one out but it has fallen and another early fence.

1:46:54 > 1:47:04We're not going to see Lorenzo De Luca winning today. We keep

1:47:04 > 1:47:13believing we will get some clears but at the moment, still struggling.

1:47:13 > 1:47:20Just a reminder that we've got aroused combinations to come. Maikel

1:47:20 > 1:47:26Van Der Vleuten has been in great form, Scott Brash, Ben Maher. All

1:47:26 > 1:47:32still to jump.Every single rider to come from now on as a household

1:47:32 > 1:47:40name. We have got to get some clears, surely.Three down, 12

1:47:40 > 1:47:50faults for Lorenzo De Luca. The household names begin here. With the

1:47:50 > 1:47:54man who is in front in the Western league as we see a couple of

1:47:54 > 1:48:02Lorenzo's mishaps again.Limestone grey was never quite At The Races.

1:48:02 > 1:48:07Wasn't really giving Lorenzo De Luca the jump that he needed to get round

1:48:07 > 1:48:10here.

1:48:14 > 1:48:23So, next up to appreciative applause from the crowd, the 2012 London gold

1:48:23 > 1:48:29medallist, in front in the westerly, riding Alamo, Steve Guerdat for

1:48:29 > 1:48:31Switzerland.

1:48:35 > 1:48:41This black gelding, just nine years old. This is a very inexperienced

1:48:41 > 1:48:46horse, not one of Steve's top horses, he was placed, he's actually

1:48:46 > 1:48:51winning the league at the moment in Europe but not with this horse. He

1:48:51 > 1:48:58has one classes on Hannah and Bianca but not with this one. Very

1:48:58 > 1:49:05interesting to see how this young singles. Super-talented down the

1:49:05 > 1:49:14combination. That was absolutely superb.

1:49:18 > 1:49:20Steve one of the top professionals that can write all sorts of

1:49:20 > 1:49:28different horses. That was class, shortened up, got the balance. No.

1:49:28 > 1:49:33Can he hold it together. So many riders, once they turn this corner,

1:49:33 > 1:49:43the last one has caught them out.

1:49:47 > 1:49:51Well, and the last fence, the younger horse just find it too much

1:49:51 > 1:49:57at the end. Had jumped such a brilliant to that point. And Steve

1:49:57 > 1:50:05has retired.Such a shame for Steve Guerdat on Alamo. All the hard work

1:50:05 > 1:50:12was done and then the final part of that combination and then that

1:50:12 > 1:50:16precipitated the run out.Slight lack of experience. This is

1:50:16 > 1:50:21definitely a horse to keep your eye on. Here he is, so brilliant down

1:50:21 > 1:50:29this line when every other horse has had a vertical down that was his

1:50:29 > 1:50:32first fault and he came round the corner and that fence at a very

1:50:32 > 1:50:39strange angle. Young horses don't expect fences to come so quickly.

1:50:39 > 1:50:45Very unusual to see the horse run out at the final obstacle.Shows you

1:50:45 > 1:50:48how tough this course is. The jumps have been placed in a very difficult

1:50:48 > 1:50:55way for youngsters.11 penalties in total for Steve Guerdat as we

1:50:55 > 1:51:09welcomed in, for Sweden, Peder Fredicson for Sweden.Peder

1:51:09 > 1:51:12Fredicson, one of the best riders to watch. European champion this year

1:51:12 > 1:51:29in Gothenburg. Such a wonderful, told, is -- told, stylish rider to

1:51:29 > 1:51:38watch. Can he produce our first clear? He had to work hard to keep

1:51:38 > 1:51:45his horse under control there.

1:51:50 > 1:52:01Beautifully balanced over the tricky vertical.

1:52:02 > 1:52:13Nobody is clear until they jump this next line. Working hard, Peder

1:52:13 > 1:52:18Fredicson, just want to go, is it the first clear? It is.It is, clear

1:52:18 > 1:52:26round. Peder Fredicson for Sweden. You can see the appreciation around

1:52:26 > 1:52:32the arena and have exacting a challenge that was. We have seen

1:52:32 > 1:52:38some of the world's best riders outfoxed by this extremely

1:52:38 > 1:52:39technical, extremely difficult course and with total concentration

1:52:39 > 1:52:45and focus, he has made it not look easy, but made it look less

1:52:45 > 1:52:48difficult.He didn't make it look easy, worked incredibly hard. He had

1:52:48 > 1:52:54to sit up here and say, come on, get in the area. And held it together

1:52:54 > 1:52:58over the last fence. He's not European champion for no reason,

1:52:58 > 1:53:06this is a top man riding absolutely brilliantly. Well done, Peder

1:53:06 > 1:53:15Fredicson. Hoist the bunting in Stockholm, Sweden have the clear so

1:53:15 > 1:53:21far. For Germany, the grey 13-year-old, the man and from this

1:53:21 > 1:53:24week, Daniel Deusser.

1:53:26 > 1:53:32Very distinctive coronet, looks like he hasn't really finished off the

1:53:32 > 1:53:36paint job, very strange colouring, unusual with such a beautifully bred

1:53:36 > 1:53:41horse. This is a gelding, they normally come out in stunning grey

1:53:41 > 1:53:47but he has come out with the sort of mottled effect but he's a very good

1:53:47 > 1:53:49jumper.

1:53:55 > 1:54:00Is it going to be waiting for a bus or are there more to come along one

1:54:00 > 1:54:04after another. Waited 20 horses to get our first clear and now we want

1:54:04 > 1:54:09some more to get a good jump off.

1:54:14 > 1:54:20I hardly dare say that we started well. You can only say it as you see

1:54:20 > 1:54:35it, Andy. That's the first of the ball defence is out of the way. --

1:54:35 > 1:54:39bogey fences. Daniel Deusser one of the most experienced, stylish riders

1:54:39 > 1:54:47out there, can he keep it together? No, he can't. Caught out by the

1:54:47 > 1:54:52first part of the double. Still one clear.Beautiful to watch in the

1:54:52 > 1:55:00main. Smooth, wonderful read. One down. It's a joint second place at

1:55:00 > 1:55:11the moment for Daniel Deusser. This was classier. Watch Daniel setup,

1:55:11 > 1:55:14get the balance, he made that line looked really easy and the lightest

1:55:14 > 1:55:19of touches here, just a faint touch, that was desperately unlucky. It's a

1:55:19 > 1:55:27cruel sport, this showjumping, isn't it?Can't even make out which leg

1:55:27 > 1:55:36tip that Paul.Wind and breath and down it comes. Four faults for

1:55:36 > 1:55:45Daniel Deusser. Another one for Germany, the 14-year-old stallion,

1:55:45 > 1:55:48Christian Ahlmann.

1:55:50 > 1:55:58Very distinctive bright style of the told Christian Ahlmann -- up bright

1:55:58 > 1:56:03style. Six feet three Talbot sits very bright. Very Germanic style,

1:56:03 > 1:56:10long rains and he has some experience, four Olympics.

1:56:20 > 1:56:25Always fascinating to look at the different styles of riding. Always

1:56:25 > 1:56:29looks like he sat in an armchair having a little round. A lot of

1:56:29 > 1:56:42control over his horses, Christian, always stays in this lovely rhythm.

1:56:42 > 1:56:46Shortened airily, that's the key to it, jump the oxer easily and shorten

1:56:46 > 1:56:54the stride early. That's the most irritating fence to come down. With

1:56:54 > 1:57:04a lazy front foot on the back rail.

1:57:11 > 1:57:17Still in the top ten but not enough, I'm afraid for Christian Ahlmann.

1:57:17 > 1:57:24Eight faults for him. Two down. Back rail of the triple bar on the first

1:57:24 > 1:57:30part of the commendation that has foxed 90% of people. This is the bit

1:57:30 > 1:57:34he did so well, short four strides and the next fence just casually

1:57:34 > 1:57:38flicked one front leg onto the rail.

1:57:42 > 1:57:48Hard to see how he touched that fence. Though and it came.

1:57:54 > 1:58:03Now, the competitor who on the different horse won the World Cup

1:58:03 > 1:58:10recently. Edwina Tops-Alexander for Australia.I'm glad you've said the

1:58:10 > 1:58:18horse.Showjumpers have always had exotic names but some of them take

1:58:18 > 1:58:23them to a whole new level this week. I don't mind talking when she won in

1:58:23 > 1:58:31black Spain, because it is called California and I can say that.

1:58:31 > 1:58:35Edwina is in great form, recently had a baby but gone right back into

1:58:35 > 1:58:39the top of the sport. She is actually sitting sixth on the

1:58:39 > 1:58:47Western European league. She has had some great form. Always very well

1:58:47 > 1:58:55mounted. One of the biggest horse dealers in the world, if you cannot

1:58:55 > 1:59:01get good horses, nobody can. -- if she cannot get good horses.

1:59:08 > 1:59:16Lots of class and quality. This horse only nine years old. So much

1:59:16 > 1:59:20engine. Look at that for power.

1:59:27 > 1:59:32Still jumping with a foot to spare. Close to the time just the one to

1:59:32 > 1:59:41go. Kapas, six hundredths inside the time.Just avoiding a time penalty

1:59:41 > 1:59:47and our second clear run, so there will be a jumpoff, Edwina

1:59:47 > 1:59:50Tops-Alexander. Well mounted she might be but she's got to get the

1:59:50 > 1:59:56job done and she has and she shares that lead with Peder Fredicson.

1:59:56 > 2:00:00Australia and Sweden provide us with our two clear is so far and we have

2:00:00 > 2:00:0312 competitors to come.

2:00:04 > 2:00:09You were just watching Edwina's round with a smile and a grimace now

2:00:09 > 2:00:10there is a jumpoff.

2:00:10 > 2:00:12round with a smile and a grimace now there is a jumpoff.Smiling for the

2:00:12 > 2:00:18jumpoff but wouldn't mind if there was one fault. You got the first

2:00:18 > 2:00:21clear run, how difficult was this course, easier when you have a clear

2:00:21 > 2:00:26under your belt?Still sweating. Hard work to write and defences come

2:00:26 > 2:00:32really quick at you and you cannot ride to style points, just a clear

2:00:32 > 2:00:38run.See you in the jumpoff.

2:00:38 > 2:00:50Back to the arena and the man who jumped the night before last riding

2:00:50 > 2:00:55this horse, VDL Groep Arera C, Maikel Van der Vleuten. Great to

2:00:55 > 2:00:59riding here at Olympia, one of the top ten in the world, eighth in the

2:00:59 > 2:01:02Western European league and already a winner this week with this horse.

2:01:02 > 2:01:05So, fantastic to have one of the best riders in the world competing

2:01:05 > 2:01:25here.The 12-year-old Dutch mare. Not to be today. It's interesting

2:01:25 > 2:01:32watching Peder Fredricson... Sorry, Peder Fredricson was watching Edwina

2:01:32 > 2:01:36Tops-Alexander's round and he sort of looked at it and thought,

2:01:36 > 2:01:40couldn't she just have had a time fault because her horse jumped

2:01:40 > 2:01:45brilliantly? Her round was by far the easiest stylish round so far,

2:01:45 > 2:01:48that horse looked in the comfort zone all the way round and none of

2:01:48 > 2:01:52the other horses have come close to that. Her round really did stand

2:01:52 > 2:01:58out. Peder Fredricson had to work a lot harder to get his clear.

2:02:08 > 2:02:15Not to be this afternoon for Maikel Van der Vleuten and VDL Groep Arera

2:02:15 > 2:02:18C, two down, they have won a class already this week so it's been a

2:02:18 > 2:02:23productive one. How much does a whole week of Olympia take out of

2:02:23 > 2:02:28these horses? How much do you have to pace yourself? It is a good point

2:02:28 > 2:02:31you're making, because having won earlier this week in a fast jump

2:02:31 > 2:02:36maybe that has taken some patrol out of the tank. You can't have all

2:02:36 > 2:02:42ways, he's had a win and won eight ranking class and can still go home

2:02:42 > 2:02:59happy.Now, another big-name, the next man in the arena for Germany

2:03:01 > 2:03:06riding Gestut Zhaschkow & Hubert Vornholt's Comme Il Faut, it's

2:03:06 > 2:03:11Marcus Ehning. Will love this stallion, exuberant horse, short in

2:03:11 > 2:03:15the back and short in the neck, I'm sure these fences look quite big

2:03:15 > 2:03:21when you are on such a small and compact horse. But he has power. If

2:03:21 > 2:03:25you watch Marcus ride him he flows forward and allows him to enjoy

2:03:25 > 2:03:32himself. There is no better man than the guy's feeling he has on this

2:03:32 > 2:03:38horse. Watch him, he is just class. We spoke quite a bit this week about

2:03:38 > 2:03:44the natural stallion's exuberance. He is a cheeky little horse. You

2:03:44 > 2:03:48could see he ran in far too close and wasn't concentrating and still

2:03:48 > 2:03:51managed to jump. He will have to listen to Marcus a lot more than

2:03:51 > 2:03:58that if he is to jump the next line or two. He is still bucking. A lot

2:03:58 > 2:04:01of pace into the triple bar and that's the problem Marcus has got,

2:04:01 > 2:04:06he doesn't have that huge stride so he had to ride with pace and flatten

2:04:06 > 2:04:15his jump. It's a shame not to have Marcus into the jump off, he's going

2:04:15 > 2:04:21for a quick four faults round.He is clever as a cat but he just couldn't

2:04:21 > 2:04:26make the final part of that triple bar, and into third place goes

2:04:26 > 2:04:32Marcus Ehning with comfortable you the fastest round with four faults.

2:04:32 > 2:04:37As you say, shame he wasn't in the jump off because he would have had a

2:04:37 > 2:04:41huge chance.Watch what he had to do, the wide triple bar, two metres

2:04:41 > 2:04:46wide, needed pace to jump it and flatten his jump. Great shame not to

2:04:46 > 2:04:53have him in the jump off. Now, great things will be expected from this

2:04:53 > 2:04:59crowd and everybody of our next competitor. You heard him in

2:04:59 > 2:05:07conversation with Lee McKenzie earlier talking about why he didn't

2:05:07 > 2:05:10take part in British team competition this year but he is a

2:05:10 > 2:05:20huge talent, he is Scott Brash riding Lady Harris & Lady Kirkham's

2:05:20 > 2:05:24Ursula XII, 16 years old.Ursula has been undoubtedly one of the best

2:05:24 > 2:05:31horses we have ever seen in the world of showjumping. Winner of the

2:05:31 > 2:05:36Doha Grand Prix, winner of the Grand Prix in Spruce Meadows, instrumental

2:05:36 > 2:05:44in Scott Brash's phenomenal rise to the very top of the sport. She is 16

2:05:44 > 2:05:48years old now. This is a mare that originally came from Scotland,

2:05:48 > 2:05:55passed through the Fletchers' yard and had so much success with Scott

2:05:55 > 2:06:10Brash. Little bit of a lucky rub there.

2:06:25 > 2:06:33Just the one to jump. The time is fine as well. Scott Brash and Ursula

2:06:33 > 2:06:38into the jump off to the delight of the crowd in the Grand Hall at

2:06:38 > 2:06:47Olympia. And the fastest clear as well, 67.58, and at the moment Peder

2:06:47 > 2:06:51Fredricson, Edwina Tops-Alexander and Great Britain's Scott Brash, and

2:06:51 > 2:06:57you can hear the crowd responding. So much joy around the arena to see

2:06:57 > 2:06:59Scott Brash and Ursula, one of the biggest crowd favourites going

2:06:59 > 2:07:11clear. And Scott almost smiled.The merest suspicion.There is more work

2:07:11 > 2:07:17for him to do yet. He is in this class to win it.So, the competition

2:07:17 > 2:07:21is really beginning to come alive now with those three clear rounds,

2:07:21 > 2:07:35and now for France riding the Top Stallions Company, Toupie de la

2:07:35 > 2:07:43Roque, Julian Epaillard. Julian Epaillard is a big winner, he

2:07:43 > 2:07:47recently won the enormous amount of prize money for the speed masters in

2:07:47 > 2:07:55Paris. If he gets in the jump-off you know he can go quick. This is a

2:07:55 > 2:08:07slightly plain looking mare, not the prettiest but she is a jumper by

2:08:07 > 2:08:12Kannan..Building now, we could do with a few more, class names still

2:08:12 > 2:08:28to come.Still Harrie Smolders to come, Cian O'Connor and Ben Maher.

2:08:28 > 2:08:35Julien Epaillard is working quite hard. Still clear. He gave that,

2:08:35 > 2:08:43nation loads of air. One to jump then. And a fourth clear it is.

2:08:43 > 2:08:46Julien Epaillard, Scott Brash, Peder Fredricson and Edwina

2:08:46 > 2:08:51Tops-Alexander. We are

2:08:51 > 2:08:52Fredricson and Edwina Tops-Alexander. We are starting to

2:08:52 > 2:08:57get a few more clear rounds. You must be delighted with how he jumps

2:08:57 > 2:09:03today.Great, his first World Cup, the last few weeks in a massive ring

2:09:03 > 2:09:08and now back into a small ring, it is all new for me and him.I saw you

2:09:08 > 2:09:12taking a look at the jump of course, how will it right?Haven't had time

2:09:12 > 2:09:15to digest it yet but the other horses are pretty fast and I just

2:09:15 > 2:09:18have to do my own track and jump a clear round and see where I end up.

2:09:18 > 2:09:21The best of luck.

2:09:25 > 2:09:28COMMENTATOR: Edwina Tops-Alexander is one of four riders to jump clear

2:09:28 > 2:09:32in this initial round. This is going to be some jump-off, as into the

2:09:32 > 2:09:41arena comes HMM Legend Of Love, owned by the legendary Ludo

2:09:41 > 2:09:48Philippaerts and ridden by Olivier Philippaerts for Belgium.

2:09:59 > 2:10:03Olivier Philippaerts riding for his father. Ludo was a brilliant rider

2:10:03 > 2:10:09to watch, so competitive, and now he is a good horse steerer, he finds

2:10:09 > 2:10:14horses and has a big family. Olivier has a twin brother and they also

2:10:14 > 2:10:18have two other brothers as well, so there is a lot of horses to find for

2:10:18 > 2:10:30their camp. No better man to do it. Well, this is looking tidy at the

2:10:30 > 2:10:43moment. This mare is an efficient jumper, not exuberant but watch her

2:10:43 > 2:10:48get her legs up in the air. Can she be careful there? No, the nasty

2:10:48 > 2:10:56vertical into the double catching another rider out. Good round.Four

2:10:56 > 2:11:02faults for Olivier Philippaerts, and HMM Legend Of Love. -- H&M. We have

2:11:02 > 2:11:08had 29 go and we have another seven competitors to enjoy. Every chance

2:11:08 > 2:11:14we could add to the four clear rounds so far, just one down and

2:11:14 > 2:11:17predictable enough fence down, and a.One of the two most difficult

2:11:17 > 2:11:23fences. Olivier tried to keep his horse away from that vertical and he

2:11:23 > 2:11:32just dived at it. That was hard luck. Now to another man in terrific

2:11:32 > 2:11:49form, riding Nabab de Reve's Zinius, for the Netherlands, Harrie

2:11:49 > 2:11:54Smolders.He's won absolutely everything, he was second in the

2:11:54 > 2:11:59European Championships, winner of the champions tour. He can ride

2:11:59 > 2:12:02anything, he has so many different horses and he's incredibly

2:12:02 > 2:12:13competitive on all of them.

2:12:15 > 2:12:18Zinius is one of those slightly smaller more active types. Doesn't

2:12:18 > 2:12:26have obvious big scope. You are going to see Harrie doing a bit of

2:12:26 > 2:12:29kicking and pulling to make it happen.

2:12:40 > 2:12:47Chaudiere. That was a nasty on landing.Well recovered.He did

2:12:47 > 2:12:51brilliantly to recover from that. -- oh dear. Harrie Smolders is not

2:12:51 > 2:12:56going to be in the jump-off, one down already.

2:13:05 > 2:13:08A real shame, Zinius is still working hard trying to leave the

2:13:08 > 2:13:16fences up.Good round but one down, four faults for Harrie Smolders.

2:13:16 > 2:13:18fences up.Good round but one down, four faults for Harrie Smolders.

2:13:18 > 2:13:21Scott Brash, 30 horses gone globally four clear rounds and you will be

2:13:21 > 2:13:25delighted you and Ursula have one of them.Definitely, it is a tough

2:13:25 > 2:13:30course, a lot of tests out there today. In terms of the bows and

2:13:30 > 2:13:34atmosphere you get at Olympia always how will she handled the jump-off?

2:13:34 > 2:13:39She's an experienced mare, she is 16, so the more atmosphere the

2:13:39 > 2:13:44better for her and we will just have to try our best in the jump-off.I

2:13:44 > 2:13:47don't think that will be a problem, the crowd will be on-site. Thank

2:13:47 > 2:13:48you.

2:13:50 > 2:13:54Plenty of work to do for Scott Brash, he will be jumping off again,

2:13:54 > 2:13:59as into the arena now for Italy riding the 13-year-old mare,

2:13:59 > 2:14:04Contanga, Alberto Zorzi.

2:14:05 > 2:14:25So, Alberto Zorzi. We have one horse clear and they had to the jump.

2:14:25 > 2:14:28Alberto Zorzi has done well in the World Cups already this year, second

2:14:28 > 2:14:35in Verran. Lots of points, tenth in the league, wonderful stylish rider.

2:14:35 > 2:14:41He's landed one of the best jobs in showjumping, riding for the famous

2:14:41 > 2:14:47Tops stable. Do you like his uniform, Nick?

2:14:47 > 2:14:53CHUCKLES You're taking the Gano very

2:14:53 > 2:14:58dangerous road here, Andy and I'm not going to take the bait.Back to

2:14:58 > 2:15:05the jumping. Oh! That was a shame.

2:15:17 > 2:15:22Super careful through the double. There is no letup on this course.

2:15:22 > 2:15:29APPLAUSE Four faults and just the one down

2:15:29 > 2:15:34for Alberto Zorzi from Italy. Will he be happy with that? No, this is a

2:15:34 > 2:15:37horse that really could have hand should have jumped clear, that was a

2:15:37 > 2:15:44very annoying mistake -- and should have. Super-talented horse,

2:15:44 > 2:15:47brilliant on the combination, that was fantastic, and that slightly

2:15:47 > 2:15:51lazy jump just coming down this line, which we have seen so many

2:15:51 > 2:15:55times. It's getting repetitive talking about it but unfortunately

2:15:55 > 2:16:00probably one of the smallest fences individually on the course, just on

2:16:00 > 2:16:04that tight four strides. Is it not showing enough respect or the angle

2:16:04 > 2:16:08from the previous fence? It's the jump before, you have to put a bit

2:16:08 > 2:16:12of leg on to stretch the horse forward and the horse has

2:16:12 > 2:16:15disregarded that vertical. There is Bob Ellis, the course builder. How

2:16:15 > 2:16:24will he feel? Job done?He has got clears, if he has no more clears it

2:16:24 > 2:16:28will still be a nice jump-off, if he had no clears he would be worried.

2:16:28 > 2:16:38Very experienced rider, riding Chansonette Farm's Skyhorse, Cian

2:16:38 > 2:16:43O'Connor.A really good wheeler dealer, comes up with all sorts of

2:16:43 > 2:16:55new horses and this is another one, Skyhorse, only ten. Lovely little

2:16:55 > 2:17:00gelding by Calvaro, fairly new ride but a very talented horse, as you

2:17:00 > 2:17:04can see.Presumably to build the strength of your stable you need to

2:17:04 > 2:17:08leave no stone unturned geographically.Cian O'Connor is

2:17:08 > 2:17:13home from the show and straight on the road looking for another horse,

2:17:13 > 2:17:17he never sits still. Always looking around to try and find more talent.

2:17:17 > 2:17:21That's part of the job these showjumpers have to do, you cannot

2:17:21 > 2:17:24just rest on your laurels, you always need fresh new super-talented

2:17:24 > 2:17:33horses. This one, OK, he has made a mistake but you can see this is a

2:17:33 > 2:17:42lovely horse. Still probably another season away from his best. Two down,

2:17:42 > 2:17:56eight penalties, eight faults for Cian O'Connor and Skyhorse.Just a

2:17:56 > 2:18:02little bit forward after the triple bar. Interesting to watch Cian give

2:18:02 > 2:18:05the horse a big pat, he had a smile on his face.

2:18:05 > 2:18:08He was pleased with the round, he could see the horse's potential and

2:18:08 > 2:18:11this horse will come out next year and definitely be placed in some

2:18:11 > 2:18:22Grands Prix. Now, can another great British hope

2:18:22 > 2:18:27add his name to the list of clear rounds? Grand Prix winner at Olympia

2:18:27 > 2:18:32in 2013 and 14, runner-up in this last year, still just 34 years old

2:18:32 > 2:18:36and what a CV he has got, riding Don Vito, nine-year-old gelding, it is

2:18:36 > 2:18:43Ben Maher.

2:18:54 > 2:19:00Rebuilding his string, riding relatively inexperienced Don Vito.

2:19:00 > 2:19:06It got Scott Brash in the jump-off on experienced Ursula. That's a very

2:19:06 > 2:19:15different kettle of fish for Ben Maher. It's the placing of those

2:19:15 > 2:19:18fences that causes any problems, because these young don't expect to

2:19:18 > 2:19:25have a jump by the edge of the arena straight after a big combination on

2:19:25 > 2:19:29a related distance. They are just not ready for it.From everything

2:19:29 > 2:19:36you've said this afternoon, Andy, it strikes me that talent isn't enough

2:19:36 > 2:19:41in this class, it's got to be talent and ring craft.Exactly. There is no

2:19:41 > 2:19:47surprise that the younger horses are finding it tough. They are showing

2:19:47 > 2:19:53they have got ability. And there you are again at the last fence, Don

2:19:53 > 2:19:58Vito just not expecting to see a jump around the corner.

2:20:02 > 2:20:08He's going to try and end on a high and jump the last.He had it down

2:20:08 > 2:20:12but it was academic by then because plenty of time faults to add to 20

2:20:12 > 2:20:19jumping penalties for Ben Maher and Don Vito. A horse for next year and

2:20:19 > 2:20:27the year after perhaps, just a nine-year-old now. Don Vito just

2:20:27 > 2:20:29showing his inexperience. He looked at the double and hesitated on

2:20:29 > 2:20:32take-off.

2:20:39 > 2:20:52Disappointment for Ben. Three to come. The next four Ireland riding

2:20:52 > 2:21:02Ballywalter Farms's Molly Malone V, Bertram Allen.Lots of interest in

2:21:02 > 2:21:06Molly Malone, born and bred at the Dails' stables, Keith and Peter

2:21:06 > 2:21:12Doyle read this one, and very proud they are of this mare. -- at the

2:21:12 > 2:21:16door

2:21:16 > 2:21:25she has won all over the world. She's 13 years old now. What we see

2:21:25 > 2:21:30with these older horses, you saw it with Ursula, they only jump in the

2:21:30 > 2:21:35really big classes, save them, they don't need to jump too many rounds.

2:21:41 > 2:21:45There is no question about it. Experience counts for everything.

2:21:45 > 2:21:55Molly Malone can jump a clear round around here.Just a reminder, four

2:21:55 > 2:21:59clear rounds so far.

2:22:08 > 2:22:17Desperately unlucky, just a little flick at the first part of the

2:22:17 > 2:22:21double that remained the only error on an otherwise blemish free round

2:22:21 > 2:22:25but it was a blemish enough to ensure that Bertram Allen will not

2:22:25 > 2:22:29join that quartet in the jump-off, Molly Malone finishes with that one

2:22:29 > 2:22:34down and as such four faults, the quickest four faults round. Yes,

2:22:34 > 2:22:41hard luck story. But that little flick on that plank was all it took.

2:22:41 > 2:22:45Molly Malone has been such a brilliant servant for Bertram Allen

2:22:45 > 2:22:47over the years.

2:22:51 > 2:22:59So, two to jump in this initial round. Now, this for France riding

2:22:59 > 2:23:08Oleksandr Onyshcenko's Teavanta II, Simon Delestre.

2:23:10 > 2:23:15There is a very interesting story to this one. This horse used to be

2:23:15 > 2:23:21ridden by Ruben Romp in Holland. We have seen this horse in Britain this

2:23:21 > 2:23:35year placed in the King George V Gold Cup at

2:23:47 > 2:23:55Hickston. He can get on with any kind of horse. Currently doing very

2:23:55 > 2:24:02well on the Western league, he's ninth at the moment. He won in Lyon

2:24:02 > 2:24:08this year.

2:24:18 > 2:24:27DME. Didn't see that coming at all. What a shame. Simon Delestre and

2:24:27 > 2:24:30Teavanta II, all that hard work and then just the lightest flick over

2:24:30 > 2:24:41the final Paul

2:24:44 > 2:24:50-- over the final pole.Look at that reaction. Nobly saw that one coming

2:24:50 > 2:24:59at all. He seemed to take off. -- nobody saw that. Our final

2:24:59 > 2:25:08competitor in this initial round of the long GF -- Longines FEI World

2:25:08 > 2:25:14Cup, Kevin Staut.

2:25:19 > 2:25:23There is one thing for sure, Kevin is taking this class seriously. He

2:25:23 > 2:25:29jumped clear the other day and didn't do the jump-off because you

2:25:29 > 2:25:32wanted to save his horse for this class. Good reason, his already

2:25:32 > 2:25:38third in the league. He's had some very good placings. He was second in

2:25:38 > 2:25:42Oslo. But it's all in vain.Should have done that jump-off the other

2:25:42 > 2:25:48night.Maybe he should. Are you going to tell him that yourself?

2:25:48 > 2:25:54That was cruel.Well, you've got to have a plan and save your horse if

2:25:54 > 2:25:57you think you have a chance in the big money in the big Grands Prix. It

2:25:57 > 2:26:01doesn't always pay off.

2:26:04 > 2:26:11With only four clear rounds there is still points to be had for four

2:26:11 > 2:26:15faults. If he gets a quick time he could still get a good place, who is

2:26:15 > 2:26:21the fastest so far?Bertram Allen with 64.6.He's not too far away.

2:26:21 > 2:26:29Quick round. He's now the fastest four faults, 64.53, so goes into

2:26:29 > 2:26:33fifth place, Kevin Staut, and that is where he will finish, in place,

2:26:33 > 2:26:38because the four above him will now jump-off for the Longines FEI World

2:26:38 > 2:26:46Cup title.After that early fence down, a really top professional

2:26:46 > 2:26:49using his brains. He knew what he had to do an slightly quickened the

2:26:49 > 2:26:57pace and gets the fastest four faults. So, the four that will

2:26:57 > 2:27:06compete for the title here as the arena party rejig the course for the

2:27:06 > 2:27:10jump-off our Peder Fredricson for Sweden, H&M Christian KCOM Edwina

2:27:10 > 2:27:15Tops-Alexander riding for Australia with Inca Boy van T Vianahof. Scott

2:27:15 > 2:27:23Brash for Great Britain who produced that beautiful round on Ursula and

2:27:23 > 2:27:34the French rider on Toupie de la Roque, Julien Epaillard. Those are

2:27:34 > 2:27:40the ones on four faults. For a long time, Andy, it looked as though we

2:27:40 > 2:27:46would get no clears at all.So difficult to build this competition

2:27:46 > 2:27:49because the quality of horse and rider is so high. They've got it

2:27:49 > 2:27:52about right, we have a nice jump-off. We had a lot of horses on

2:27:52 > 2:27:56four faults that could easily have produced double the number of

2:27:56 > 2:27:59clears.There are promising horses for the future, William Funnell and

2:27:59 > 2:28:03Amanda Derbyshire, they had three down but they will be happy with

2:28:03 > 2:28:11what they have produced for future years. Four to go in the jump-off. I

2:28:11 > 2:28:12have Ben Maher alongside

2:28:12 > 2:28:13years. Four to go in the jump-off. I have Ben Maher alongside us. We knew

2:28:13 > 2:28:18that would be a tricky course, Don Vito not the most experienced of

2:28:18 > 2:28:24horses.Yes, he started off well and went to the right on fence number

2:28:24 > 2:28:27two and I had to change my plan and he settled in and jumped the triple,

2:28:27 > 2:28:34nation well. He had the two jumps down that the class had down. He's

2:28:34 > 2:28:36inexperienced and sometimes doesn't look where he is going and they're

2:28:36 > 2:28:41obviously a lot of run pasts at the last fences which don't happen very

2:28:41 > 2:28:45often. He's got to learn to look for the jump and allow me to ride him.

2:28:45 > 2:28:49Everything is there but just needs time. When Tim and I spoke

2:28:49 > 2:28:53beforehand you said there are lots of fences in corners and on the

2:28:53 > 2:28:57angle as well. Yes, everything comes so fast, I was trying to help him as

2:28:57 > 2:29:02much as I could so I did a lot for him the walk down the line and the

2:29:02 > 2:29:05triple bath in the end I think those younger horses, everything keeps

2:29:05 > 2:29:10coming thick and fast and they just struggle to stay focused until the

2:29:10 > 2:29:17end.Thank you for joining us. Tim, in terms of what we saw when we did

2:29:17 > 2:29:20our course what we highlighted a few fences that might cause problems,

2:29:20 > 2:29:24lots of fences caused problems. You isolated the double with the plank

2:29:24 > 2:29:28on top and my goodness that came down on so many occasions. That has

2:29:28 > 2:29:31wrecked so many dreams today, it really has, Cimini riders thought

2:29:31 > 2:29:35they were clear up to that point and had it down and it looked at one

2:29:35 > 2:29:38point that it was impossible to jump. The problem was twofold.

2:29:38 > 2:29:41Towards the end of the course, the horse gets tired but the problem is

2:29:41 > 2:29:46also there is a mass of polls behind it so they couldn't distinguish

2:29:46 > 2:29:51where it was so that caught them out. It was on very flat caps so it

2:29:51 > 2:29:56needed the most delicate of rubs. These horses are not hitting it very

2:29:56 > 2:30:00hard. These are experienced horses being caught out in that fashion.

2:30:00 > 2:30:03And the last fence caught a couple out because it is right into the

2:30:03 > 2:30:08corner and lots of horses don't expect to see offence there. You

2:30:08 > 2:30:11always said we would get clear rounds and there were times that you

2:30:11 > 2:30:16studied to doubt it during that. Four faults doesn't look that bad.

2:30:16 > 2:30:21-- started to doubt. We have some quality horses in the jump-off.The

2:30:21 > 2:30:25four that have jumped clear look fantastic. The horse is in great

2:30:25 > 2:30:29form. Edwina Tops-Alexander going around, her horse was magic, the way

2:30:29 > 2:30:34she went around from always like it was on Springs, gazelle like. Peder

2:30:34 > 2:30:38Fredericson worked hard and will have his work cut out in the

2:30:38 > 2:30:41jump-off, and Scott and Julien Epaillard had the measure of the

2:30:41 > 2:30:45course, concentrating towards the end, holding it, two fast riders but

2:30:45 > 2:30:50towards the end they were holding it and presenting the horse in balance

2:30:50 > 2:30:53to get the clear round.Scott will be the crowd favourite, Ursula is

2:30:53 > 2:30:57hugely experienced as well.Yes, what is strange with this kind of

2:30:57 > 2:31:04course is first rounds can be jumps in different places and lots of

2:31:04 > 2:31:08things around and it's almost an eyeful and in the jump-off a strip

2:31:08 > 2:31:11everything away and it becomes very plain and there is a terrible

2:31:11 > 2:31:15different emphasis on the second round, it's more about speed and

2:31:15 > 2:31:19less about things inside you, you don't turn inside or back on

2:31:19 > 2:31:24yourself. The faster riders, Scott and Julien Epaillard will be there

2:31:24 > 2:31:28at the end. It's going to be quick, it is quality, maybe not quantity,

2:31:28 > 2:31:29let's head back to Nick and Andy.

2:31:29 > 2:31:36COMMENTATOR: The course has been thinned out for the jumpoff but this

2:31:36 > 2:31:39is a real test of skill, speed and dial.

2:31:39 > 2:31:44is a real test of skill, speed and dial.Fascinating, starting with

2:31:44 > 2:31:48four this sale. The oxer in the corner, galloping over those two

2:31:48 > 2:31:57oxers and then we get a tight turn after this first here, back to the

2:31:57 > 2:32:00second and third parts of what was a combination. That's a really tight

2:32:00 > 2:32:14turn. Once they've turned back across the arena to the wall, now we

2:32:14 > 2:32:16have to start galloping, flat-out, all the way up to the arena to the

2:32:16 > 2:32:19vertical at the corner, that will be a real test of nerve and when you

2:32:19 > 2:32:27have done that a big oxer. Is it worth playing it safe early on in

2:32:27 > 2:32:30the twisty and tiny part to make sure you are clear and then go hell

2:32:30 > 2:32:36for leather at the end you have to do make the tight turns and gallop.

2:32:36 > 2:32:47Let's confirm the order.

2:32:54 > 2:32:58I'm going to put you on the spot and Askew who is best placed to take

2:32:58 > 2:33:05this jumpoff? Scott Brash is going to win because he's British

2:33:09 > 2:33:14. That's just not patriotism in the extreme! This man might have

2:33:14 > 2:33:20something to say about that because he was the first one to go clear of

2:33:20 > 2:33:27the 36 competitors who entered this class. And he's riding for Sweden.

2:33:27 > 2:33:32He went 21st and he might have thought he'd done enough, as it was

2:33:32 > 2:33:40he's joined by three others in the jumpoff.

2:33:47 > 2:33:53Is the famous doors open to usher him into the Olympia arena, welcomed

2:33:53 > 2:33:57Peder Fredicson. What is his strategy here?Because there's not

2:33:57 > 2:34:03many in the jumpoff, just one thing to do, go for the win. No tactics

2:34:03 > 2:34:08here, just go for it, what have you got to lose? You know you are going

2:34:08 > 2:34:13to come forth at the very worst. Go for it.

2:34:18 > 2:34:33Peder Fredicson. He is the one to leave the gauntlet down.

2:34:42 > 2:34:46We're going to have a little bit of a look as to whether he turns very

2:34:46 > 2:34:52tight at this next vertical back into the double. They're all going

2:34:52 > 2:34:59to have to go inside just a couple of strides off the corner. Very

2:34:59 > 2:35:04tight back to the wall if you can. Lost a little bit of balance in his

2:35:04 > 2:35:13character. He's a mile off it and no gap. All the way back down the

2:35:13 > 2:35:28arena... APPLAUSE Nice start. 41.3 four. Smooth,

2:35:28 > 2:35:32rhythmically but is he fast enough? I will be very surprised if they

2:35:32 > 2:35:37don't go any faster. That was an efficient round, the run that Peder

2:35:37 > 2:35:41Fredicson felt suited his horse but he certainly didn't go for it as

2:35:41 > 2:35:46much as he could have done. Lovely time here but when he turns back to

2:35:46 > 2:35:51the wall, his horse went all over the place and watch the canter.

2:35:51 > 2:35:55Really disorganised. Back legs not underneath him and he ended up a

2:35:55 > 2:35:59mile off the wall and at that point he thought he'd try to get home

2:35:59 > 2:36:03clear and he was quite sensible to the last, didn't chance it too much,

2:36:03 > 2:36:09so they can go quicker. They can go quicker but he is without error and

2:36:09 > 2:36:16that may yet be key. Peder Fredicson, H&M Christian K clear in

2:36:16 > 2:36:26the jumpoff. Here is Edwina Tops-Alexander for Australia.When

2:36:26 > 2:36:33they get to Big Ben Houses of Parliament wall. Peder Fredicson was

2:36:33 > 2:36:3862.6 seconds. We have a little bit of British interest in this horse,

2:36:38 > 2:36:45it is produced in Britain and sold on. I'm sure they will be watching

2:36:45 > 2:36:51anxiously at home but a young horse, nice little town. Massive power,

2:36:51 > 2:36:59will she have a gallop. Not the most experienced horse. She's gone wide.

2:36:59 > 2:37:08She is a second in front.Use this stride, open him up. Right on a

2:37:08 > 2:37:22level now. Going to be very tight. Just done it. Just in front. Goes

2:37:22 > 2:37:22into

2:37:22 > 2:37:22. Edwina

2:37:26 > 2:37:32Edwina Tops-Alexander Inca Boy van T Vianahof with for Australia.Great

2:37:32 > 2:37:37ground. Use common sense because young horse, just nine years old,

2:37:37 > 2:37:41smooth turn, just went slightly widened to the wall, making sure of

2:37:41 > 2:37:45dropping it but kept up a good rhythm. This is a horse that covers

2:37:45 > 2:37:52the ground. Big stride. She is in the lead, we have two with riders to

2:37:52 > 2:38:02come.41.05 is discord to beat. -- the score. The roar from the crowd

2:38:02 > 2:38:09tells you that the next competitor represents Great Britain the 16th

2:38:09 > 2:38:20-year-old mare Ursula XII and riding is Scott Brash. Having another

2:38:20 > 2:38:28chance on this hugely experienced horse.Just being careful with the

2:38:28 > 2:38:38vertical.

2:38:41 > 2:38:45Looking at around 26 year, way in front.Miles up on the clock and I'm

2:38:45 > 2:38:50sure she will gallop to the last as well. Steadying of the vertical, now

2:38:50 > 2:38:59here's the gallop. He is miles in front. Just had a little rattle at

2:38:59 > 2:39:03the last but it stayed up.Didn't matter and you can see the reaction.

2:39:03 > 2:39:09Scott Brash takes the lead in the Longines SEI World Cup for Great

2:39:09 > 2:39:16Britain and he shaves CMT quarter seconds of Edwina Tops-Alexander

2:39:16 > 2:39:23time and it didn't look like he was in a hurry. This horse has been

2:39:23 > 2:39:28deceptive, she eats up the ground, got so much power at 16 years of

2:39:28 > 2:39:33age, all the jump, all the experience and Scott Brash is super

2:39:33 > 2:39:39cool. Knew exactly what he was doing, kept his balance to the last.

2:39:39 > 2:39:48He is way into the lead.Still not smiling. He will smile when he's won

2:39:48 > 2:39:54the class. If he wins the class because the Frenchman may have the

2:39:54 > 2:39:58last laugh.

2:40:00 > 2:40:11Julien Epaillard. Toupie de la Roque, six-year's as Sheila's

2:40:11 > 2:40:23junior. -- Ursula's.This one of the fastest riders in the world, won the

2:40:23 > 2:40:38huge pot of money at this speed class in Paris and he's a flyer.

2:40:39 > 2:40:45Very audacious turn there, that was very brave.Just took an extra

2:40:45 > 2:40:50stride round the corner.Very little in it. He's going to have to chance

2:40:50 > 2:41:04these last two.He's up now.He's quick.And he's done it. Julien

2:41:04 > 2:41:10Epaillard has taken the Longines World Cup for France and he has

2:41:10 > 2:41:16beaten Scott Brash by nearly half a second. Reasonably comfortable in

2:41:16 > 2:41:22the end.Did it to the last two fences. Julien Epaillard, naturally

2:41:22 > 2:41:28quick rider, very clever horse. He won it fair and square.I wonder

2:41:28 > 2:41:29whether Scott

2:41:29 > 2:41:31won it fair and square.I wonder whether Scott. Then his heart of

2:41:31 > 2:41:35hearts when he saw the court that he had it in the bag.I don't think he

2:41:35 > 2:41:40thought that, he knew how fast Julien Epaillard is, I think you're

2:41:40 > 2:41:43talking Julien Epaillard would have won fans down and shoot himself in

2:41:43 > 2:41:47the foot but he kept his cool and he actually lost some of them run to

2:41:47 > 2:41:55the wall and made it up over the last two fences.Lovely to see very

2:41:55 > 2:42:01genuine Mayers finishing first and second. I said there were no,

2:42:01 > 2:42:05ten-year-old, six years Ursula's junior and giving everything here.

2:42:05 > 2:42:15Wonderful jumpoff, really entertaining.Confirming the result.

2:42:15 > 2:42:17Like eight of 13 in the Western European league and it goes to

2:42:17 > 2:42:23France. Toupie de la Roque Ridden by Julien Epaillard.

2:42:35 > 2:42:43Once again, the man who jumped last had the last laugh.

2:42:47 > 2:42:51He did have the last lap, when Scott came back a a word with him, he knew

2:42:51 > 2:42:54that Julien Epaillard was going to be so quick that there, that's a

2:42:54 > 2:42:59powerful combination

2:42:59 > 2:43:01be so quick that there, that's a powerful combination.Scott did

2:43:01 > 2:43:05everything right, left a little bit but on the numbers, at the top and

2:43:05 > 2:43:09on the vertical. When I saw with Gillian

2:43:11 > 2:43:14that Julien Epaillard. He has at last rider so you have to be aware

2:43:14 > 2:43:20he's behind you. Great result for Scott.Always difficult for Peder

2:43:20 > 2:43:25Fredicson as a Pathfinder and Edwina, she's on a young horse, not

2:43:25 > 2:43:31going to want to put the frighteners on this one just for one class. His

2:43:31 > 2:43:36first World Cup, some tight turns and got it going, those guys at the

2:43:36 > 2:43:40end, the pedal to the metal.Let's take another look

2:43:42 > 2:43:48Julien Epaillard's round. You said what a quick, nation it is.He was

2:43:48 > 2:43:55goes on the first stride. Turn, big movement to this one, you see. This

2:43:55 > 2:44:00is five, so as to wait for it, here he nearly mess it up because he

2:44:00 > 2:44:05nearly goes too early and we saw there the horse had to work hard.

2:44:05 > 2:44:11This is her I believe he used his brains, I don't want to go to silly.

2:44:11 > 2:44:17Going straight to that and now he goes. What you notice is how big the

2:44:17 > 2:44:20striders, little bit of a check at the end and the same thing, run to

2:44:20 > 2:44:28the last. Little balance and there. Great riding. How tricky is it to

2:44:28 > 2:44:32get that speed to cover the ground and be able to take it when you need

2:44:32 > 2:44:37to just before the fence and maintain balance.When you're riding

2:44:37 > 2:44:41the jumpoff, you're right elongate is. You start to see the distance

2:44:41 > 2:44:46from further and as a result of that, the runners ride a different

2:44:46 > 2:44:52temple. Some riders can do it so easily, almost automatically. Scott

2:44:52 > 2:45:00is the same and so is Gillian. On the first round to the jumpoff. We

2:45:00 > 2:45:04will hear from Scott in a moment. Ursula is a hugely experienced

2:45:04 > 2:45:11horse, 16 years of age.She did great, superb. Scott's first-run

2:45:11 > 2:45:17shows because he has as a rider. He gave himself time in the end to

2:45:17 > 2:45:22jumped last, so money riders were running to the last line, he got it

2:45:22 > 2:45:25balanced and set up and showed all his skill as a world-class rider

2:45:25 > 2:45:30that we know and the second round again, the same thing.Great friend

2:45:30 > 2:45:34because he was telling me earlier in the week that he has got such

2:45:34 > 2:45:37difficulties with many of his top passes having injury, so for him to

2:45:37 > 2:45:42be able to come to a shore were he is so dearly loved and provide some

2:45:42 > 2:45:46entertainment for the crowd, that will give him a big boost.What I

2:45:46 > 2:45:50would say about Scott, he always has a good Olympia, he likes the arena

2:45:50 > 2:45:59and believes the arena is a place of work, as it were. He does well, he's

2:45:59 > 2:46:07not in any way intimidated, the opposite, World Cup day comes up

2:46:07 > 2:46:11come along and he gets out of bed and says, let's get stuck in and get

2:46:11 > 2:46:15to work. The horse are to head back into the arena, William Whitaker was

2:46:15 > 2:46:18looking for some money has and a little bit, as go back to commentary

2:46:18 > 2:46:19team.

2:46:22 > 2:46:25Spot-on, he finished eighth, not quite sure how much that means but

2:46:25 > 2:46:29William will have every idea!Good prize money all the way down the

2:46:29 > 2:46:37line and it means a lot just to get into that prize line-up.In seventh

2:46:37 > 2:46:42place was Marcus Denning, a little unlucky today. Class horse, class

2:46:42 > 2:46:45rider, he was unlucky, would have liked to have seen him go against

2:46:45 > 2:46:55the clock. Smashing horse. Bertram Allen for Ireland, finished in sixth

2:46:55 > 2:47:00place on Molly Malone. Element we love Molly Malone, she's a great

2:47:00 > 2:47:06campaigner. Kevin Stout, that was really unfortunate, perfect until

2:47:06 > 2:47:14the very last moment.Several riders there with hard luck stories.The

2:47:14 > 2:47:19ones that went clear and contributed to a wonderful jumpoff, Peder

2:47:19 > 2:47:25Fredicson, Edwina Tops-Alexander inside.I think she will be

2:47:25 > 2:47:29delighted with that nine-year-old Horace, jumped brilliantly.You said

2:47:29 > 2:47:37he'd smile if he won. Is he smiling now? Nearly. He is responding to the

2:47:37 > 2:47:41crowd who love him, Scott Brash. Another brilliant round from him.

2:47:41 > 2:47:48And here is the smiling Frenchman. This man is definitely smiling, one

2:47:48 > 2:47:50of the biggest wins of Julien Epaillard's career, been around a

2:47:50 > 2:47:56long time and his round was so entertaining, went for the win.

2:47:56 > 2:48:01Maybe turns and he really entertained us.He described this

2:48:01 > 2:48:11Toupie de la Roque as rather plain but if ever there was a handsome is

2:48:11 > 2:48:11as

2:48:11 > 2:48:12but if ever there was a handsome is as handsome does, absolutely. And I

2:48:12 > 2:48:19do not try and a fighter and she gave absolutely everything today.

2:48:24 > 2:48:31Now the presentation will take place. The brand director of

2:48:31 > 2:48:49Longines will present the prizes. Now the national anthem of France.

2:49:10 > 2:49:18(FRENCH NATIONAL ANTHEM).

2:49:43 > 2:49:47#La Marseillaise).

2:49:47 > 2:49:58APPLAUSE Toupie de la Roque just turning her

2:49:58 > 2:50:06year to that. I think she enjoyed that. She did. Julien Epaillard.

2:50:06 > 2:50:11Let's have a listen to what he's got to say.I'm very happy today, thank

2:50:11 > 2:50:18you very much.APPLAUSE With three clear runs in the jumpoff

2:50:18 > 2:50:23before you came in, how much pressure was there on you?Yes, a

2:50:23 > 2:50:30lot of pressure on the first three was clear and I have no chance to

2:50:30 > 2:50:37try -- no choice but to try.Today was a great day. To our winner,

2:50:37 > 2:50:41Julien Epaillard. APPLAUSE Congratulations indeed to Julien

2:50:41 > 2:50:46Epaillard, really appreciative of what this link today means at

2:50:46 > 2:50:52Olympia and one of the characteristics of this show is its

2:50:52 > 2:50:55pan-European representation and it is always good is he so many

2:50:55 > 2:50:59countries represented on no fewer than 30 nations here in this class.

2:50:59 > 2:51:03That's one of the things about the World Cup, you invite riders from

2:51:03 > 2:51:07all over the European countries. All was a really good international

2:51:07 > 2:51:12flavour to it. I'm so pleased for Julien Epaillard to win that, it

2:51:12 > 2:51:16would have been as of Scott Brash won it, you can see is a genuinely

2:51:16 > 2:51:19nice guy, not one of the biggest names in this sport but he is so

2:51:19 > 2:51:22competitive.

2:51:24 > 2:51:31Julien Epaillard will receive his rosettes and a bottle of champagne.

2:51:31 > 2:51:37I say a bottle, it's a Magnum, of course. Jill gets

2:51:39 > 2:51:44-- you'll get through that night no problem.A very big moment of his

2:51:44 > 2:51:50career, one of the classic classes to win and world showjumping. He's

2:51:50 > 2:51:56beating Scott Brash in second place, Edwina Thomson Alexandria in third,

2:51:56 > 2:52:06Peder Fredicson in force and another Frenchman in fifth Kevin Stout.

2:52:08 > 2:52:17-- Kevin Staut. We had about the rebuilding of British showjumping.

2:52:17 > 2:52:22Are there green shoots of recovery for you, Andy?I'm sure there are, a

2:52:22 > 2:52:25lot of young horses that are going to come through. We saw a few of

2:52:25 > 2:52:31them, not quite jumping clear today. A number of really good youngsters

2:52:31 > 2:52:36with experienced riders. A lot of strength in the riding department,

2:52:36 > 2:52:40so I'm always optimistic. No shortage of talented riders, no

2:52:40 > 2:52:43shortage of talented horses but it's getting them to stay together,

2:52:43 > 2:52:47presumably. It's getting everybody on board to make sure we have a

2:52:47 > 2:52:51proper team effort next year. Without wishing to be presumptuous,

2:52:51 > 2:52:56I'm guessing that red bit and are not going to win International

2:52:56 > 2:52:59showjumping medals unless everybody on that team is unified and singing

2:52:59 > 2:53:03from the same hymn sheet and old riding in this indirection?Of

2:53:03 > 2:53:08course, that's the way it always works in sport. We have to get

2:53:08 > 2:53:13together and give it our best shot. One man who gave it his best shot

2:53:13 > 2:53:22back today and came up trumps, Julien Epaillard, who has won the

2:53:22 > 2:53:29Longines World Cup here at Olympia on Toupie de la Roque. Not only one

2:53:29 > 2:53:32of the most important classes here of this show but one of the

2:53:32 > 2:53:38important showjumping classes in Europe.A lot of classic shows

2:53:38 > 2:53:42around, Olympia is definitely one of them, every rider wants to have a

2:53:42 > 2:53:46big one at Olympia on their CV and congratulations Julien Epaillard,

2:53:46 > 2:53:49this is really does mean a lot to him and the crowd have thoroughly

2:53:49 > 2:53:54enjoyed it. It was a very exciting jumpoff and now is his moment of

2:53:54 > 2:54:04glory.As is customary, one or two of the rosettes flying into the

2:54:04 > 2:54:09crowd make wonderful keepsakes. Hopefully some young fans who will

2:54:09 > 2:54:15pass on their love of the sport for generations to come. Olympia such a

2:54:15 > 2:54:18huge part of some money family Christmases and now the crowd from

2:54:18 > 2:54:28one final time can salute the winner of the World Cup, for fans, Julien

2:54:28 > 2:54:33Epaillard. 9000 fans in the arena. 90,000 over the week here at Olympia

2:54:33 > 2:54:37and that's exactly why they come, I wonderful atmosphere and doesn't

2:54:37 > 2:54:41matter to them, they would love to have seen Scott Brash won but they

2:54:41 > 2:54:45are enthusiasts and appreciate the quality riders and horses. This has

2:54:45 > 2:54:49been an event worthy of the name, very tough first-round, riders

2:54:49 > 2:54:52jumping fabulous rinds and having very unlucky four faults and could

2:54:52 > 2:54:58have been eight in ten in the jumpoff and it could have been

2:54:58 > 2:55:02different, with all four we had quality. Still had quality riding

2:55:02 > 2:55:05and Julien Epaillard was a well-deserved winner.This is

2:55:05 > 2:55:16Olympia in a nutshell centre strolls through the back of our camera. Real

2:55:16 > 2:55:19festive fun, we will speak to Scott Brash in a moment but this is a

2:55:19 > 2:55:22deadly price many people have watched this programme over the

2:55:22 > 2:55:32years. It's 110th Olympia, it's incredible longevity.It's a mix of

2:55:32 > 2:55:37show and showjumping. Top-class sport mixed with entertainment and

2:55:37 > 2:55:42fun, great for kids, the adults, this time of year as well. It adds

2:55:42 > 2:55:47all of it. That's why you asked me earlier by the riders love Olympia,

2:55:47 > 2:55:52insiders, bringing families and children to watch the show. One of

2:55:52 > 2:55:57the other highlights here at Olympia, every single night is the

2:55:57 > 2:55:59Shetland pony Grand National, Lahmert we've got an awful lot of

2:55:59 > 2:56:02different young riders who turn up and one of the young riders on

2:56:02 > 2:56:10Friday night was Rockall, sitting alongside Emily, two champion jockey

2:56:10 > 2:56:13fathers, let's see how got on.

2:56:14 > 2:56:22Rocky getting a lead in from there. Nice first down. Run an absolute

2:56:22 > 2:56:30flyer here on beeswax. On the outside, Alice Robinson and third.

2:56:30 > 2:56:31Then

2:56:31 > 2:56:34outside, Alice Robinson and third. Then in force is Luke Procter.

2:56:34 > 2:56:38Rockall still in front with a circuit to run and adding the inside

2:56:38 > 2:56:43line, wasting not an inch of ground. Sliding have the inside is Alice

2:56:43 > 2:56:50Crowley. Children of two champion jockeys of the past and dominating

2:56:50 > 2:56:54this Grand National. The Tories still in front. On the outside is

2:56:54 > 2:56:58Alice Robinson with a late charge by the wasted a lot of ground run the

2:56:58 > 2:57:04outside and making his way for home. Through the final fight of handles.

2:57:04 > 2:57:11Round the last corner and up the middle of the track. And he wins the

2:57:11 > 2:57:15Shetland pony Grand National. Dettori and Crowley, first and

2:57:15 > 2:57:23second. Give that man a pat on the back and an assist but wonderful bit

2:57:23 > 2:57:32of riding. A star of the future. Very good right I would give that as

2:57:32 > 2:57:38one. He was heavy favourite going into this evening but the great ride

2:57:38 > 2:57:43in second.Look at the motion on the face.Means a lot to him.Alice

2:57:43 > 2:57:54Robinson was third. We have got him being presented the trophy by his

2:57:54 > 2:57:57father, trying to control the Shetland, not easy. The apple does

2:57:57 > 2:58:06not fall far from the tree, that's clear. Was a real high level one of

2:58:06 > 2:58:10the highlights this afternoon, the World Cup, Scott Brash so close,

2:58:10 > 2:58:15wasn't to be today. Delighted

2:58:15 > 2:58:15World Cup, Scott Brash so close, wasn't to be today. Delighted with

2:58:15 > 2:58:19the horse, jumped amazing. Shame we didn't get a win in front of the

2:58:19 > 2:58:21home crowd but it was an entertaining class and delighted

2:58:21 > 2:58:28with the horse. 16 years old but such enthusiasm and poor. She's an

2:58:28 > 2:58:35amazing pass, always been an amazing horse. I will be sad to call it a

2:58:35 > 2:58:40day with her when the time comes. She still jumping as good as ever.

2:58:40 > 2:58:44We spoke earlier and you said it's been a tricky year with a lot of

2:58:44 > 2:58:48injuries in the yards, must be great to have a horse like this to rely on

2:58:48 > 2:58:51that you can bring out some like this because you are a crowd

2:58:51 > 2:58:55favourite and the appreciate you being here.Absolutely we want to

2:58:55 > 2:58:59entertain the crowd, bring our best horses, try our best to have a good

2:58:59 > 2:59:04when Meaghan Francella home crowd. At least we give them something to

2:59:04 > 2:59:08shout about towards the end.You must have known that Julien

2:59:08 > 2:59:11Epaillard would be a difficult combination to beat and especially

2:59:11 > 2:59:15being last to go. He's a great rider, we jump against them every

2:59:15 > 2:59:20week and he wins a class at every show.Such a fast rider. He was

2:59:20 > 2:59:23always going to be a bit faster, I was hoping he would have a fence

2:59:23 > 2:59:28down but not to be. Liberty, rode a great ride. You said he was a class

2:59:28 > 2:59:35rider before it gets to a jumpoff. What Scott is not saying is that

2:59:35 > 2:59:40he's coming with a 16-year-old, two there is eight-year-old horses and

2:59:40 > 2:59:51they were good for the future, very impressed. I have high hopes for

2:59:51 > 2:59:54them 28-year-olds, great experience. You don't expect them to be winning

2:59:54 > 3:00:01too much. The experience year is hopefully when to put them in good

3:00:01 > 3:00:04stead for future shows.

3:00:04 > 3:00:08It is a good point because these are young horses in these relative

3:00:08 > 3:00:11terms. How important is it to get them out before you concentrate on

3:00:11 > 3:00:17what is to come in 2018 and beyond? So important. They are machines,

3:00:17 > 3:00:25they take years to produce, a horse takes years to produce. It is a

3:00:25 > 3:00:3016-year-old before you can get the best out of them sometimes. They are

3:00:30 > 3:00:34young but they have learned a lot at this show. What about the World

3:00:34 > 3:00:39Equestrian Games next year, that on the horizon?Yes, we want to build a

3:00:39 > 3:00:44solid team and win, so hopefully we will get together and give a good

3:00:44 > 3:00:48solid performance.Thank you for joining us. We will see you again

3:00:48 > 3:00:52tomorrow, Scott. 20 more coming up that we will tell you about. In

3:00:52 > 3:00:57terms of how you think Scott is as a flag bearer for British Showjumping,

3:00:57 > 3:01:00you could see how the crowd adores him, how important is it to have

3:01:00 > 3:01:05some body like a mad Ben Maher in British Showjumping? You need that,

3:01:05 > 3:01:09we have John Carmichael and Nick for years and Scott and then have that

3:01:09 > 3:01:14mantle now. In every team you will have major players -- John, Michael.

3:01:14 > 3:01:19We need other riders alongside them. We need a pool of riders, not just

3:01:19 > 3:01:22say those two, we need four or five other riders to go alongside and

3:01:22 > 3:01:26that has a filter system down will stop that's what I was talking about

3:01:26 > 3:01:30earlier with the plan. We need to start getting riders pulling the

3:01:30 > 3:01:34rope in the same direction and have a plan going forward so that we can

3:01:34 > 3:01:37build a team with more depth. It is certainly a talking point and will

3:01:37 > 3:01:41be continued to discussed the matter be discussed for a long time to

3:01:41 > 3:01:44come. Olympia is almost drawing to a close here but there is so much

3:01:44 > 3:01:49wonderful sport to look back on coming up on the BBC.

3:01:49 > 3:01:56And welcome to Liverpool. # She loves you yeah, yeah, yeah. #

3:01:56 > 3:02:02Liverpool, let's have a night to remember.Is this a real thing?I

3:02:02 > 3:02:11can't hold this with these on.Looks like it could do with a polished.

3:02:11 > 3:02:18Some greats have won this award. # Ding dong merrily on high. #

3:02:18 > 3:02:25I think it would look nice in my room, don't you? Sports Personality

3:02:25 > 3:02:29of the Year 2017, live from Liverpool, tonight at 6:45pm.

3:02:31 > 3:02:34There is the fabulous arena, they are just going through the finale

3:02:34 > 3:02:38now but still much more action to come from Olympia over the next 24

3:02:38 > 3:02:45hours. It continues tomorrow night, we have live coverage of the evening

3:02:45 > 3:02:50show. The jumpers are back in action once again, the Grand Prix at 6:35pm

3:02:50 > 3:02:54on the red button, online, BBC sport app and connected TV and if you are

3:02:54 > 3:02:57out enjoying yourself Atticus is party and that allowed, you can

3:02:57 > 3:03:04catch highlights on Tuesday -- at a Christmas party. That is the

3:03:04 > 3:03:08wonderful thing about Olympia, isn't it? I mentioned earlier on, it's the

3:03:08 > 3:03:12combination of world-class sport and festive fun. You can see and

3:03:12 > 3:03:15definitely hear the tractors behind me, because there is even more

3:03:15 > 3:03:19action to come, we have more Shetland ponies, the Met police

3:03:19 > 3:03:24parading here as well, and we have another jumping class too. It is a

3:03:24 > 3:03:28busy, busy time for the world's top showjumpers. They have certainly

3:03:28 > 3:03:32enjoyed this afternoon and we hope you have too. Thank you for your

3:03:32 > 3:03:33company and goodbye.

3:03:41 > 3:03:45# You know that sweet Santa Claus is on the way #

3:03:45 > 3:03:51COMMENTATOR: Still looking for our first clear round. Is it our first

3:03:51 > 3:03:57clear? It is. Scott Brash and Ursula into the jump-off. He is miles in

3:03:57 > 3:04:02front. Gillian Epaillard has taken the
