:00:16. > :00:24.Well, what a competition. My word. This horse has been brilliant. Such

:00:25. > :00:33.a partnership, exceptional. A fantastic combination. Pure class.

:00:34. > :00:38.And that was easy. Oh, he is way over it.

:00:39. > :00:45.Hello, welcome to Gothenberg, in Sweden. A famous stadium that has

:00:46. > :00:55.seen its fair share of drama over the years.

:00:56. > :01:13.Remember this? It is there, it is two! How about

:01:14. > :01:18.this? A man who knows he is on the verge of greatness. It is huge, it

:01:19. > :01:27.is massive. My goodness, that is fantastic!

:01:28. > :01:44.And more recently this. I think I just broke my leg.

:01:45. > :01:51.Yes, when it comes to showjumping and dressage, Europe is a hotbed of

:01:52. > :01:56.talent and these European Championships competition will be

:01:57. > :02:01.world class. France are the reigning Olympic champions Netherlands

:02:02. > :02:05.reigning world and European champions. And the Swedes in front

:02:06. > :02:09.of the home crowd favourite to take the title but no British team will

:02:10. > :02:16.take them on because selectors have not sent a team, they have picked

:02:17. > :02:20.individual riders, Michael Whitaker and his nephew. Michael thought his

:02:21. > :02:30.horse by King was not prepared so has pulled him out. That means that

:02:31. > :02:33.we have one competitor. I spoke to the director of British showjumping

:02:34. > :02:40.to ask why there is no team. We have happed to manage our objectives and

:02:41. > :02:45.the key is the FEI promotion we are looking for and once we have got

:02:46. > :02:49.that nailed this year, looking towards the world and Olympic

:02:50. > :02:55.campaign. This is a balance of the campaigns in getting our objective

:02:56. > :02:59.of the nations cup. We are mindful of the Olympic cycle and want to

:03:00. > :03:04.allow that to happen in your one, the best time for it. It is an

:03:05. > :03:09.indefensible decision not to send a team and every senior figure in the

:03:10. > :03:14.sport I have spoken to, myself included, disagrees with us not

:03:15. > :03:19.sending a team. Surely it could have been managed that OK we have the

:03:20. > :03:24.Europeans coming up in August, let's make sure we have a team ready to

:03:25. > :03:29.go. Has there been a failing from British showjumping to get a team

:03:30. > :03:34.here? I do not think there has. We pick the best available talent in

:03:35. > :03:39.any year and we are in this for the long haul towards the games and that

:03:40. > :03:46.is the key objective. We have a load of riders who could be here. Jessica

:03:47. > :03:50.Mendoza, she wanted to come and has already jumped at Aachen on the

:03:51. > :03:59.European team and done well, she is the future of the sport. Tim Wilkes

:04:00. > :04:03.was in Dublin, he wanted to be here. And we have more experienced riders

:04:04. > :04:09.like Robert Whitaker, who was second in the 5-star Grand Prix last week.

:04:10. > :04:12.There must be plenty of other riders, young, maybe less

:04:13. > :04:16.experienced, in Great Britain who would love to be here but have not

:04:17. > :04:21.been given the opportunity to compete. There always will be. But I

:04:22. > :04:25.go back to managing the right opportunity and people at the right

:04:26. > :04:31.time. How do you say the European Championships is not the right

:04:32. > :04:36.opportunity? We do not want to push people to heart. If you are on a

:04:37. > :04:41.team expected to do well there is more pressure. I know from my own

:04:42. > :04:45.experience if you go with not great expectations, you have less pressure

:04:46. > :04:51.and if you do well, it is a great bonus. I do not buy that. What about

:04:52. > :04:56.then mayor and Scott Brash? Two of the best in the world. They are

:04:57. > :05:02.following their individual campaigns as I have said. Their individual

:05:03. > :05:05.campaigns are in the big events, surely they could have been given

:05:06. > :05:14.some heads up that the Europeans were coming up and maybe they would

:05:15. > :05:16.make themselves available. Of course they know the European Championships

:05:17. > :05:21.will happen. We know that as well as they do. We want them to be able to

:05:22. > :05:25.complete these campaigns in the big shows. That makes sense and it is a

:05:26. > :05:29.great opportunity to do that in the first year. It is not the job of

:05:30. > :05:34.performance managers to decide not to send a team. They have to send

:05:35. > :05:39.the best team available. They can gain nothing by having no team here.

:05:40. > :05:44.According to Andy it is a missed opportunity as far as Great Britain

:05:45. > :05:51.is concerned. He has gone to the commentary box for the team

:05:52. > :05:54.showjumping, an individual amount. Team members riding for their

:05:55. > :05:58.country and individual glory wearers riders like William Whitaker of

:05:59. > :06:05.Great Britain, riding for themselves. The first round is

:06:06. > :06:10.against the clock and these times are converted to penalties for the

:06:11. > :06:14.rest of the competition. We have a further two rounds before the team

:06:15. > :06:19.title is decided and only the top ten teams at the end of round two go

:06:20. > :06:26.through to the final round to compete for medals. Each country has

:06:27. > :06:31.four team members. The individual scores in a team competition are

:06:32. > :06:36.important as the top 25 riders after the first three rounds qualified for

:06:37. > :06:40.the final two rounds of the individual competition on Sunday.

:06:41. > :06:44.The scores from all five efforts count towards the individual title

:06:45. > :06:47.and the person with the lowest number of points at the end will be

:06:48. > :06:53.crowned European champion. We will get to the team jumping competition

:06:54. > :07:10.shortly. The first rider BC is William Whitaker of Great Britain.

:07:11. > :07:16.Good luck, William. Michael is here supporting him but had to come out

:07:17. > :07:31.in terms of riding but very much on hand.

:07:32. > :07:40.Just a little touch on the back rail. Let's hope it is a wake-up

:07:41. > :07:41.call. William keeping a good rhythm. Let's hope he can get inside the

:07:42. > :08:00.time of 85 seconds. The leader on zero individually, so

:08:01. > :08:05.it puts him a pole and a little bit off the lead. He is not far away. He

:08:06. > :08:17.just moved to the left over the big oxer but still clear.

:08:18. > :08:26.We are looking for the first clear round in this competition. He will

:08:27. > :08:37.be close to the time. He might just make it. What a round! That is what

:08:38. > :08:48.we wanted. 84.0 one. Inside the time. Beautifully written all the

:08:49. > :09:00.way around. -- ridden. Marcus Ehning.

:09:01. > :09:11.The German squad includes Laura Klaphake, Maurice Tebbel and Philipp

:09:12. > :09:15.Weishaupt. Sending out there experienced rider first. We have

:09:16. > :09:20.different members but we still have the amazing silky smooth skills of

:09:21. > :09:24.this man to watch. Every time he comes into the ring, it is

:09:25. > :09:33.repetitive, but we say this is how you should ride a horse. Twice

:09:34. > :09:37.European gold medallist. Surprisingly, 2009 the last time he

:09:38. > :09:47.was on a European Championship team. That is surprising. A fastly

:09:48. > :09:52.experienced rider. Immaculate stylist. Everybody's idea of balance

:09:53. > :09:59.and rhythm and feeling for his horse. The one thing Marcus Ehning,

:10:00. > :10:01.he is always smooth. He is not wasting time anywhere. Coming inside

:10:02. > :10:22.the corner well inside the time. And he has annihilated the time.

:10:23. > :10:30.Five seconds inside. That, as they say, is how to do it. Nicely done.

:10:31. > :10:40.Keeps him in contention individually. A good start for the

:10:41. > :10:44.Germans. They stay on in 11.5 two. This man is known to produce it and

:10:45. > :10:53.he did at the last European Championships, where he took home an

:10:54. > :11:02.individual medal. In Aachen. Gregory Wathelet, the final rider for

:11:03. > :11:11.Belgium with Coree. Belgium keeping themselves in the hunt.

:11:12. > :11:26.Gregory Wathelet seems to be able to ride any kind of horse effectively.

:11:27. > :11:32.This mare, Coree, just has to be ridden forward in the right place

:11:33. > :11:36.and he hits the spot every time. Performed brilliantly at Aachen

:11:37. > :11:42.early in the year. Gregory has that championship mentality, as well. He

:11:43. > :11:48.is a class act. World Cup qualifier in Leipzig with this horse. When you

:11:49. > :11:50.look through the list of top horses, this man has had an involvement

:11:51. > :12:08.somewhere along the line. He has. It is fascinating now to see these

:12:09. > :12:12.riders making the tears and making the time allowed look easy. You

:12:13. > :12:20.realise the gulf in class when you see them going around here.

:12:21. > :12:23.Outstanding. A really, really super performance from the Belgians.

:12:24. > :12:32.Gregory Wathelet, as expected, in contention.

:12:33. > :12:48.Ireland Cian O'Connor. Good Luck is the name of a horse. He rarely needs

:12:49. > :12:56.that. This season winning the Grand Prix with this horse. A four time

:12:57. > :13:02.European rider, two worlds. A bronze medal individually at the Olympics

:13:03. > :13:07.in London. But this has been a standout horse for 2017 already. You

:13:08. > :13:13.get the feeling with Cian O'Connor he wants to win a championship medal

:13:14. > :13:17.with this horse, and this is a horse who has what it would take. He is

:13:18. > :13:32.not the biggest, but he has a massive engine.

:13:33. > :13:42.Just trying to get him be balanced, get his concentration around the

:13:43. > :13:51.difficult turn. Belgium and Ireland are tied on the same score in third

:13:52. > :13:54.place at the moment, so any fence here can make a massive difference

:13:55. > :14:05.to that and he has done it once again. He points to the horse. This

:14:06. > :14:07.is a proper championship horse. Cian O'Connor has always set his stall

:14:08. > :14:29.out to two well in Championships. Peder Fredricson. H All In. Peder

:14:30. > :14:35.Fredricson leading the way individually and again he carries

:14:36. > :14:41.the hopes of the Swedish. We have given a lot of riders a lot of

:14:42. > :14:46.praise for being championship riders, etc, this man, he can go

:14:47. > :14:53.through a championship with knocking a fence down.

:14:54. > :15:14.Recovered from a kol lick operation earlier in the last year. Not been

:15:15. > :15:21.at their best, but certainly come back out in the last few months. His

:15:22. > :15:27.recent form has come when he's needed it and you get the impression

:15:28. > :15:31.that Peder Fredicson is not jumping all the big five star Grand Prixes

:15:32. > :15:38.for all-the-money. He wants to win the championship.

:15:39. > :15:49.That's what you have to do - you have to have a plan and a target.

:15:50. > :16:01.As we have said before... He's inside the time. Got it! Got it! Got

:16:02. > :16:05.it! Clear round it is. Peder Fredicson continues a fabulous run

:16:06. > :16:09.of form. He keeps himself in the lead individually and well he keeps

:16:10. > :16:13.the home fires burning well and truly.

:16:14. > :16:23.Final rider then of the day and it's Switzerland that lead on 6. 15. This

:16:24. > :16:29.is the man they turn to keep them with their nose in front. Who better

:16:30. > :16:34.than Steve Guerdat - the Olympic chasm p Ion in London in 2012. Steve

:16:35. > :16:42.Guerdat, he wants to do well at championships. He targets them. He

:16:43. > :16:48.always has done. Another rider with a pedigree, temperament and skill.

:16:49. > :16:54.This mare she can jump. Oh, he had to work hard at the

:16:55. > :16:57.water. Jumped four rounds in the Nation's Cup this year - all of them

:16:58. > :17:27.clear. She's one of those mares, wants her

:17:28. > :17:32.say. Chucks her head around a little bit. When she gets there she does do

:17:33. > :17:46.the business. She has the ability to jump. She's not the easiest.

:17:47. > :17:53.Oh, he was a long way thauf oxer there!

:17:54. > :17:58.So that really is quite surprising. He didn't see that one coming. We

:17:59. > :18:05.certainly did not. And well Switzerland - that one fence makes

:18:06. > :18:13.all the difference. So Steve Guerdat 5.84. And he picks up the one time

:18:14. > :18:18.fault in there as well. The team standings then going into

:18:19. > :18:22.the final stage - it a east the home team, Sweden who lead the way.

:18:23. > :18:31.Switzerland keep themselves on 11. 15. Joint bronzed position going

:18:32. > :18:38.into the final stage, it is Ireland, alongside Belgium on the same score.

:18:39. > :18:43.In the individual competition Peder Fredicson keeps hold of the lead.

:18:44. > :18:58.Ehning in second spot. Popular leaders as you would expect

:18:59. > :19:02.after round one. The Swedish crowd rode every jump with their team.

:19:03. > :19:04.Let's see how the medals were decided. Could they hang on to gold?

:19:05. > :19:21.Let's get back to the action. William Whitaker then for Great

:19:22. > :19:29.Britain. 5. 06. This is where all the hopes are carried. A super round

:19:30. > :19:32.yesterday. Can he do much more as he climbs up

:19:33. > :19:41.the world ranks? That was one fence early on that we

:19:42. > :19:46.didn't expect this plucky little horse to have. He's such a trier.

:19:47. > :19:50.Hasn't got the biggest stride. He's not the biggest horse.

:19:51. > :19:53.William's got to put that behind him.

:19:54. > :20:12.Keep his focus. You can see they are adding up

:20:13. > :20:16.strides all the way around. It will not help his time, but I think at

:20:17. > :20:21.this stage the best tactic is to try and hold it together. If he has a

:20:22. > :20:29.time fault so be it. Cannot afford another fence.

:20:30. > :20:37.Beautifully ridden into the big oxer. Now this tricky last line.

:20:38. > :20:47.Adds up. Gets the extra stride. Beautifully ridden. He's over the

:20:48. > :20:51.time, but that was a fantastically well ridden round. Very unlucky with

:20:52. > :20:56.that one vertical. There's the family watching and the rest of the

:20:57. > :21:12.British squad to support. It is ten to add for William Whitaker. Let's

:21:13. > :21:21.concentrate on the Irish team. Bich Allen has withdrawn. So they

:21:22. > :21:26.are done to three and Shane Sweetnam will start them off. Jumped clear

:21:27. > :21:34.yesterday. They are tied in Bronze Medal position with the Belgians.

:21:35. > :21:43.Shane Sweetnam is really stylish. He was immaculate yesterday. He jumped

:21:44. > :21:45.a lovely round. He's got that nice fluent forward style, quite capable

:21:46. > :22:02.of getting inside the time. Come together here thand are looking

:22:03. > :22:08.strong. They can get on a plane. They are used to travelling, that is

:22:09. > :22:11.for sure. You need us, ship us in. Shane Sweetnam, two European

:22:12. > :22:18.Championships already. A top ten finish in the Dublin Grand Prix. Top

:22:19. > :22:23.five in the King George crown cup at Hickstead. On 2.1 he's not far away

:22:24. > :22:28.at ausmt Individually he's there or thereabouts. I love the way he's so

:22:29. > :22:35.confident, coming around the corners, not taking a pull, quickly

:22:36. > :22:44.away from the fences. Very Direct Line into that big,er. -- into that.

:22:45. > :22:52.Very confident. You have to believe in your horse to do that.

:22:53. > :22:59.Wonderful round. He'll get there for the Irish. It is a battle between

:23:00. > :23:02.they and the Belgians. Stride for stride, mark for mark. Sweden,

:23:03. > :23:28.though, keep it at the head of affairs at the moment.

:23:29. > :23:57.That combination, it is starting to play its part. Another one.

:23:58. > :24:01.One thing about this lovely mare, she doesn't have naturally all the

:24:02. > :24:05.scope. Maybe she's finding it too much. You can see it now. I think

:24:06. > :24:11.maybe she's going to have to retire. It is such a shame. This mare is a

:24:12. > :24:15.lovely, lovely trier. It looks like this is a step too far. Once the

:24:16. > :24:17.heart's gone out of it... It is a little bit too big for the horse and

:24:18. > :24:41.she has to retire. Such a shame. Belgium now. Equal with Ireland at

:24:42. > :24:46.the moment. And Jerome Guery, the third rider for the Belgians. He won

:24:47. > :24:51.in this horse in the Grand Prix last year as well. Horses he's ridden in

:24:52. > :24:54.the nation's Cup. They have come under pressure before and to deliver

:24:55. > :25:04.them. They have to do it now if they're going to stay in the charts.

:25:05. > :25:11.Clear from the first rider, five from their second.

:25:12. > :25:14.Touching distance to top just 2.9, the difference between the silver

:25:15. > :25:24.medal position and the gold medal position at this stage.

:25:25. > :25:27.Oh! The Belgians have gone from jumping clear rounds, one after the

:25:28. > :25:33.other, just the odd fence creeping in now. It was four clears from

:25:34. > :25:37.yesterday. It is clear and five today so far.

:25:38. > :25:41.Just wouldn't want to have another one.

:25:42. > :25:44.And you hate to say the Irish would have enjoyed seeing that one. He was

:25:45. > :26:00.very lucky at that oxer. Going to run close to time. Should

:26:01. > :26:05.just... No! No, he doesn't. So, he gets a similar score. And well,

:26:06. > :26:12.Belgium now start to separate from Ireland. They were tied on the same

:26:13. > :26:17.score. But Belgium will have to carry that fine. Moves up to 17.11.

:26:18. > :26:33.Drops them into fourth place at the moment.

:26:34. > :26:38.Double clear in the Nation's Cup this year. This is where he needs to

:26:39. > :26:44.draw on that again to produce it here.

:26:45. > :26:52.Douglas riding another Swedish-bred horse. Very famous Swedish stallion,

:26:53. > :27:00.Cardento. And talk about pressure, Steve. He's had one already.

:27:01. > :27:10.Every one of the crowd riding with him.

:27:11. > :27:19.A big crowd here tonight and it has gone quiet again.

:27:20. > :27:23.Oh, and he's missed his stride. It was a long five. Went for the five.

:27:24. > :27:31.Didn't get there. So it is going to be a slide down

:27:32. > :27:35.for the Swedish. The Irish will move up. The Irish in a strong position

:27:36. > :27:40.after that. The The Irish will move into gold

:27:41. > :27:43.medal position. They have to count this round. But

:27:44. > :27:49.the Irish will have to count their last as well. Absolutely.

:27:50. > :27:55.Whether it also plays well for Switzerland.

:27:56. > :28:05.Oh, he's a long way off the last fence. He managed to get there.

:28:06. > :28:11.Well, it is one that racks up the score for the Swedish and

:28:12. > :28:18.Zacramento. Fourth place after nine for Douglas. It means the Irish move

:28:19. > :28:19.up into the gold medal position. Swiss into silver and Belgium into

:28:20. > :28:39.the bronze. Gregory Wathelet rode to silver

:28:40. > :28:44.medal at the last European Championships as well. Sitting on 6.

:28:45. > :28:50.25 individually, too. Gregory, last to go for Belgium, who are in Bronze

:28:51. > :28:52.Medal position, on 17.11. Sitting, well, just fractions back from the

:28:53. > :29:08.Swiss on 16. .15. These are the last few rounds now

:29:09. > :29:11.that will do besides the medals. Boy, have we got some class riders

:29:12. > :29:38.to come in. Some fantastic horses. Gregory Wathelet one of the great go

:29:39. > :29:41.to riders that great to see him with a superstring of horses he is

:29:42. > :29:49.creeping under him at the moment to show what he can do.

:29:50. > :29:50.It is really tough. He has come back with the new string -- keeping under

:29:51. > :30:04.him at the moment. He is quick. Time is not a problem.

:30:05. > :30:11.Two fences. He is a long way off the last fence but inside the time. Puts

:30:12. > :30:19.four onto the score for Belgium. Sweden would move up. It is the

:30:20. > :30:25.final rider for Ireland, Cian O'Connor, the team leading the way

:30:26. > :30:32.so far. This is to take it home for Ireland. Cian O'Connor can have a

:30:33. > :30:43.time faults. He will also be seriously looking to

:30:44. > :30:55.be in the hunt individually, as well. One fence, but no time fault.

:30:56. > :31:12.Let's just watch! Confident on the forward five

:31:13. > :31:48.stripes. Still clear. They last won in 2001. He gets

:31:49. > :31:55.there, inside the time. And clear. He has done it. The man from Ireland

:31:56. > :32:00.delivers. Cian O'Connor on a horse called Good Luck that needed little

:32:01. > :32:02.of that. The Irish kept ahead of the field in the gold medal position and

:32:03. > :32:13.the Irish last wedding in 2001. -- last winning in 2001. And to keep

:32:14. > :32:24.the Swiss in a medal position they have sent in the 2012 Olympic

:32:25. > :32:28.champion Steve Guerdat. Bianca jumped brilliantly yesterday.

:32:29. > :32:33.Jumping a little bit too high over one oxer. Steve is a fighter and

:32:34. > :32:50.this mare is a fighter. The great thing about Steve Guerdat,

:32:51. > :32:56.he can go around the world winning big prize money all over the place,

:32:57. > :33:01.but he really does want to win at Championships and Olympics and he

:33:02. > :33:02.has the record to prove that. 2019 gold medallist at the Europeans in

:33:03. > :33:30.Windsor. Bianca is just getting a little bit

:33:31. > :33:40.untidy. Losing the back end over the oxer.

:33:41. > :33:59.He adds the four to the team score and the Swiss group dropped down

:34:00. > :34:03.into the bronze medal position. This all on for a silver medal and for

:34:04. > :34:11.the man who leads the individual race. The silver medal he has from

:34:12. > :34:19.Rio, finishing behind Nick Skelton. Now, can the Swedish on their home

:34:20. > :34:23.ground take home a medal? Peder Fredricson to try to deliver again.

:34:24. > :34:34.Fastest in the speed round and clear yesterday. Peder Fredricson is a

:34:35. > :34:36.former top event rider. He loves to Wright in a forward ribbon. He is

:34:37. > :35:01.flying around this course. It has gone very quiet. Very quiet.

:35:02. > :35:08.A fence down will cost a medal here. But it would be a good finish for

:35:09. > :35:11.the home team, if they finish where they are right now.

:35:12. > :35:33.A clear round will keep him in front individually. Two to go.

:35:34. > :35:41.There he goes. He continues on his way for the title potentially

:35:42. > :35:46.individually. A super finish for the Swedes, to put the bin silver medal

:35:47. > :35:48.position overall. The Irish will take a gold medal, Switzerland in

:35:49. > :36:04.bronze medal position. Confirming that it is a gold for

:36:05. > :36:12.Ireland. Silver medal for the home side, Sweden and Switzerland taking

:36:13. > :36:22.the bronze medal. Confirmation of the individual scores. Peder

:36:23. > :36:26.Fredricson on the zero score. William Whittaker in the end just

:36:27. > :36:35.missing out. William, you just missed out on the

:36:36. > :36:45.individual by one place. Commiserations. Yes... Yes, a bit

:36:46. > :36:49.sad, really, but, I mean, what can I say? My horse jumped fantastically

:36:50. > :36:59.again today and when I looked at the video I think I was slow to number

:37:00. > :37:04.three and he made a fault which mess me up for the next fence. From fence

:37:05. > :37:10.five he jumped brilliant again. I could not fault him. To miss out by

:37:11. > :37:16.one place, you never know, somebody might pull out yet. We will have to

:37:17. > :37:22.wait and see. But yes, it was tough out there today. All in all I was

:37:23. > :37:27.pleased with the way my horse jumped. It was a shame I was slow

:37:28. > :37:32.from the beginning. Shame, congratulations, three clear rounds

:37:33. > :37:36.to be crowned champions. It does not get much better. Definitely. It

:37:37. > :37:41.seemed a mile away this morning but everybody came through and thank

:37:42. > :37:46.God. We have worked all year towards this and I think we deserve it. You

:37:47. > :37:49.said you have worked all year towards it, you all live in

:37:50. > :37:55.different places around the world and come together, how does that

:37:56. > :37:59.work for the dynamic? We are experienced individuals and we have

:38:00. > :38:05.been doing it a long time. Sadly we have not had a team success, the

:38:06. > :38:10.last time island won the medal was 2001 and to recreate that tonight is

:38:11. > :38:18.history in the making. 16 long years. A gold medal back then and a

:38:19. > :38:21.gold medal again. Describe when you landed the final fence to clinch it.

:38:22. > :38:25.I am looking forward to the video because I do not recall the round!

:38:26. > :38:30.The horse jumped out of his skin. We came with a plan devised by our

:38:31. > :38:34.Brazilian leader who has done a great job to get people to work

:38:35. > :38:42.together. At times we sacrificed other things, certain nations

:38:43. > :38:46.competitions but no doubt it was worth it now. Ireland are European

:38:47. > :38:51.champions. You have Sweden as your prediction. You did not see that

:38:52. > :38:56.coming. I was not far-away, with Sweden coming second. The Irish lads

:38:57. > :39:02.did dig deep and they lost Bertram Allen. He was out. The others

:39:03. > :39:07.performed brilliantly, three clear rounds today. Cian O'Connor's last

:39:08. > :39:13.round, never looked like having a fence. A fantastic performance by

:39:14. > :39:18.the Irish. Sadly, William Whittaker misses out on a place in the

:39:19. > :39:25.individual by one place. The top 25 go through and he came 26.

:39:26. > :39:31.Heartbreaking. He did well today. He just had a silly fence down early

:39:32. > :39:35.on. He has ridden well this week and he is a class act and will be their

:39:36. > :39:43.for British teams for a long time to come. We will have more jumping

:39:44. > :39:47.later in the programme. Now we will turn to dressage, which, for the

:39:48. > :40:11.last few years have been dominated by this pair. APPLAUSE

:40:12. > :40:19.Charlotte has iced cake style. It Charlotte Dujardin with the great

:40:20. > :40:26.Allegro has done it. And so we entered the post Allegro era, after

:40:27. > :40:30.years of top class service he is enjoying retirement. And with no

:40:31. > :40:35.Allegro, Charlotte is not here either. So why have spoken to double

:40:36. > :40:41.Olympic medallist Carl Hester about the new dynamic in the team without

:40:42. > :40:47.them. The team is experience. We first rode in the 92 Olympics and we

:40:48. > :40:54.have known each other a long time. Spencer I know. That was one of mine

:40:55. > :40:58.horses that came from my yard when he was young, Supernovae. It is not

:40:59. > :41:04.a problem supporting each other but a shame we had to lose one along the

:41:05. > :41:12.way. Charlotte is not here because her top horse has retired. How much

:41:13. > :41:21.have the team missed Allegro and the high marks he consistently posted?

:41:22. > :41:26.He was our anchor since 2000 and he brings in enormous scores. -- since

:41:27. > :41:31.2011. He enables the rest of us to do what we do without pressure. But

:41:32. > :41:36.I said if we could come here this year and held our own, show good

:41:37. > :41:41.scores, it just shows how far British dressage has come. It cannot

:41:42. > :41:53.all be about Allegro and now it is time for the new horses to step up.

:41:54. > :41:58.Supernova is a top horse. Not quite going, the atmosphere affects it,

:41:59. > :42:04.but has the same capability as Allegro. There is plenty to be

:42:05. > :42:10.positive about. How far are we from producing another Allegro? How long

:42:11. > :42:19.will it be up until we see Supernova reaching... ? One year. Supernova

:42:20. > :42:23.will be the star. Charlotte has an amazing young horse. She is a

:42:24. > :42:31.superstar waiting in the wings. I have a lovely horse. Charlotte has

:42:32. > :42:35.been competing at small internationals and they both have

:42:36. > :42:42.been winning. Those of the scores that take you back up to gold medal

:42:43. > :42:48.position. This is a temporary year. We hope for a medal this year and

:42:49. > :42:53.should have had one. I am pretty confident we will be back very

:42:54. > :42:57.strong. Let's get into the action. We will watch the freestyle

:42:58. > :43:03.competition where writers design their own tests and pick their own

:43:04. > :43:13.soundtrack. Judy Harvey and Stephen wild will guide you through it. Carl

:43:14. > :43:21.Hester and Nip Tuck. A good season already. Top three at the World Cup

:43:22. > :43:28.final. Scoring over 80. Similar in Amsterdam and of course winning the

:43:29. > :43:36.World Cup qualifier at Olympia. Judy, over to you. Watch out for

:43:37. > :44:47.this start. It is fantastic. A huge degree of difficulty.

:44:48. > :44:54.And there you have it. Piaffe, pirouette and counter pirouette and

:44:55. > :46:02.not even turning left. That little bit of tension rescued.

:46:03. > :46:28.That is by the masterful riding of Carl Hester.

:46:29. > :46:38.Beautiful double error wept followed by perfect one time in front of the

:46:39. > :46:41.judges on the centre line. We talked about highlighting your horses' best

:46:42. > :47:49.things and that is how you do it. Carl Hester is so clever, the way he

:47:50. > :47:51.bends the horse. When he is spooked. Look in this direction! Do not look

:47:52. > :48:03.at that, look at this! Clearly demonstrated extended walk.

:48:04. > :48:18.The horse supple and relaxed. You are looking at brilliant

:48:19. > :48:24.horsemanship and brilliant training. He is a nervous horse, a big horse.

:48:25. > :48:28.Not so talented in some areas of the work, and he has been produced to

:48:29. > :49:09.show his full potential. And more. Just a slight loss of rhythm at the

:49:10. > :49:14.beginning of the extended trot. I think he was a tiny bit ahead of his

:49:15. > :49:20.music and was waiting for the note in the music to start the extended

:49:21. > :49:31.and the horse just faltered slightly in the rhythm.

:49:32. > :49:42.If you want to talk about harmony, this is it.

:49:43. > :49:55.Carl Hester and Nip Tuck. The scores to come and we will see if it is

:49:56. > :50:09.enough to put them in medal position. It needs to be 77.696% and

:50:10. > :50:14.above. The rider has been such a sensational part of British success

:50:15. > :50:20.in dressage. They seem happy down. They should be. The horse did a

:50:21. > :50:27.fantastic job. That was great fun to watch. It was challenging, the music

:50:28. > :50:30.fitted beautifully. The horse tried his heart out but still there was

:50:31. > :50:35.the little bit of excitement when the horse gets tense in the corner,

:50:36. > :50:45.will he contain it? Edge of your seat stuff.

:50:46. > :50:52.At the same time, Carl Hester looked like he was having a lovely time out

:50:53. > :51:00.there and enjoying sharing this moment with us and partnership with

:51:01. > :51:04.the horse. They're there was a problem in the flying change. I

:51:05. > :51:09.hoped the judges would not see it but obviously the cameraman did! You

:51:10. > :51:15.talk about Carl Hester, it is a trusting your own ability, that you

:51:16. > :51:18.have been there and done it. It is unfortunate the cameraman has

:51:19. > :51:21.highlighted the areas that were difficult, but they came in parts of

:51:22. > :51:26.the test where it would not matter so much of the judgment point of

:51:27. > :51:37.view. At the centre line, you cannot get much straighter. Look at that,

:51:38. > :51:45.beautiful. That should have ten. Not that we are biased! Sensational. The

:51:46. > :51:50.scores will be along a moment. Carl Hester, what a great man he has been

:51:51. > :51:55.for Great Britain already. Looking to the future already but Nip Tuck,

:51:56. > :51:59.team- wise, they just missed out into fourth place earlier this week.

:52:00. > :52:13.Now, tense moments as British supporters await. Deep breath,

:52:14. > :52:17.80.571, into the gold medal position, Carl Hester and Nip Tuck.

:52:18. > :52:28.He has big challenge is to come and three of those after this, but a wry

:52:29. > :52:34.smile. And a bit more celebration. Three big hitters still to come in

:52:35. > :52:48.our line-up. It will be a deep breath for the Danish now. Catherine

:52:49. > :52:57.do Catherine Dufour, not too long ago she was in young riders. With

:52:58. > :53:06.this horse that took her to Rio. Aachen, Doha. Success in those.

:53:07. > :53:29.Another big contender. Her score in the Grand Prix special,

:53:30. > :53:37.it was a test that had risk-taking and perfect harmony. A great

:53:38. > :53:41.combination these two. Having come up through Young Riders with this

:53:42. > :53:53.horse. They know each other inside out. Lovely one times again. He is

:53:54. > :54:01.quite a small and forgive me for saying ordinary looking horse. But,

:54:02. > :54:07.boy, does he come alive when he gets his rider on his back. He rises to

:54:08. > :54:12.the occasion. And you do get horses that grow under the atmosphere. I

:54:13. > :54:16.think they are often the ones who have been in partnership with the

:54:17. > :55:11.rider a long time. They love to please their riders.

:55:12. > :55:30.Lovely extensions. Direct extension into passage. A very correct piaffe.

:55:31. > :55:47.Could perhaps lift the four legs a little bit more. That is looking at

:55:48. > :56:01.the detail -- forelegs. You cannot get much more on the spot than that.

:56:02. > :56:10.Really has impressed me this rider, her mental approach and focus and

:56:11. > :56:14.guts and determination to get in there and deliver the goods. From

:56:15. > :56:19.what you see already, you have the feeling she will be a sensation in

:56:20. > :56:24.the sport for time to come and more to come from her yet. I am sure she

:56:25. > :56:25.will be around championships in getting medals all over the place in

:56:26. > :56:49.the future. Again, you do not see many who can

:56:50. > :56:55.do the piaffe on the spot as she can. But perhaps it is at the

:56:56. > :57:29.expense of the forelegs. But that is her decision. Lovely half pass.

:57:30. > :57:34.The horse really uses his body in his top line in the extended walk.

:57:35. > :58:15.It is exceptional to see that. Hans Zimmer movie theme music. Yes.

:58:16. > :58:39.You win on that one! I am much more up on the 80s stuff!

:58:40. > :58:45.The height he is getting in the passage and the energy he is

:58:46. > :58:54.prepared to put into it after a week of sport and three long tests. And

:58:55. > :59:00.amazingly generous little horse. Lovely turns.

:59:01. > :59:18.Catherine Dufour of Denmark. Atterupgaards Cassidy. A pairing

:59:19. > :59:23.that have come together through the under 21s and now part of the senior

:59:24. > :59:29.stage. Where will it put them? Will it put them in a medal position? We

:59:30. > :59:34.will not in a moment, but it has been a good week for the Danish. And

:59:35. > :59:51.also for Sweden. Patrick Kittel currently in sixth spot. And

:59:52. > :59:59.if there is an after party, there might be some schnapps. We will look

:00:00. > :00:03.at the scores closely in a moment that 80.614 for Carl Hester, so

:00:04. > :00:07.increases a little on the confirmation. Leaving him in the

:00:08. > :00:13.gold medal position at this stage. What were your standouts here for

:00:14. > :00:15.this test? I think the correctness, the lack of mistakes. The harmony

:00:16. > :00:30.between the two. The Two tests to come after this for

:00:31. > :01:03.Germany... Closing out a good week for

:01:04. > :01:11.Catherine Dufour, who was in the medals as we mentioned for the

:01:12. > :01:22.teams. 84.5 61. Into the gold medal position. She is going to be a

:01:23. > :01:29.superstar. She ready is. -- she really is.

:01:30. > :01:56.Sonke Rothenberger with another young horse, ten years old, Cosmo.

:01:57. > :02:00.This is the provisional score at the moment. Carl Hester in the silver

:02:01. > :02:05.medal position as it stands. He has been part of the team gold medal

:02:06. > :02:12.winning combination here this week. Good score over 80 in the Grand Prix

:02:13. > :02:28.special. This could shake things up again? Certainly could.

:02:29. > :02:31.Choosing to go a long way down the centre line before stopping and

:02:32. > :02:52.saluting. This has to be the highest potential

:02:53. > :02:57.horse of the championships. Cosmo. Very exciting, talented, brilliant

:02:58. > :03:12.horse. I have known him some time, because he grew up with. A truly

:03:13. > :03:15.wonderful talent. But with that flair and excitability that can

:03:16. > :03:20.sometimes cause mistakes and little errors. That is an extended trot and

:03:21. > :04:10.I am sure he will do one for more marks later in his freestyle.

:04:11. > :04:27.Look at those front legs. Also matched behind.

:04:28. > :04:32.The bounce and spring in that piaffe. Gosh, he is a fabulous

:04:33. > :05:08.horse. The youngest rider in the field at

:05:09. > :05:14.22 years of age. If you have a Formula 1 horse, you have to have a

:05:15. > :05:19.Formula 1 rider. 34 jumping starts on the FEI website before he

:05:20. > :05:32.switched to dressage. That has perhaps given him the temperament to

:05:33. > :05:52.Wright a machine like this. -- to ride.

:05:53. > :06:55.Spring and elasticity in that cantor.

:06:56. > :06:59.These two times were outstanding. To do them on a line with that power

:07:00. > :07:20.and that height Music's very clever, too. It goes

:07:21. > :07:47.with this sharp, light, intelligent horse.

:07:48. > :07:59.Mistake. Got a little bit too big and free.

:08:00. > :08:09.That's clever. I was wondering when he was doing the twos again. He took

:08:10. > :08:12.them to one-time changes. They will count to his one-times mark. He

:08:13. > :08:14.could have pulled back that little bit. I am sure we will see there's

:08:15. > :08:51.been a lot of tens in that test. Completing his test. The leading

:08:52. > :08:55.score today is 84.5.61, confirmed. But the Germans, plenty of elation

:08:56. > :08:59.there and you can see why, Judy. That was just exceptional. It was

:09:00. > :09:04.real hairs on the back of your neck stuff for me. The excitement of the

:09:05. > :09:09.horse. Such a live wire, with so much power and the knife edge and

:09:10. > :09:13.the risk-taking and all coming off. Little mistake at the end of those

:09:14. > :09:22.ones. But wow! That was great to watch. It is what dressage should

:09:23. > :09:30.all be about. The thing is she's now thrown down the gauntlet. She cannot

:09:31. > :09:36.make any mistakes. Look at him go. The harmony. The horse looks so

:09:37. > :09:39.enthusiastic. Finds it so easy. He has since he was three this horse.

:09:40. > :09:51.He's been phenomenal to watch. Well, expecting a big score for the

:09:52. > :10:10.German rider. We will see what it will be in a moment's time.

:10:11. > :10:16.The Danish judge looks disappointed there.

:10:17. > :10:30.The Danish are slipping out of the medals. That is only my opinion.

:10:31. > :10:39.Still at the top for the Danes. . You see that mistake. Just got

:10:40. > :10:43.slightly ed. If you compare with the straightness of nip tucks. When

:10:44. > :10:48.you've got that mistakes can come in.

:10:49. > :10:54.The score on its way. A different feeling in the stadium

:10:55. > :11:06.as well. Just a complete hush. There it is - coming at 90. .614.

:11:07. > :11:08.Rothenberger and Cosmo - blown it away in a different way here in

:11:09. > :11:30.Gothenburg. The last to go for Germany. She's

:11:31. > :11:33.got medals by the bundles from five Olympic golds, similar at world

:11:34. > :11:37.games. European Championships as well. She scored up into the 90s

:11:38. > :11:49.with this horse already this year. Already been so solid this week.

:11:50. > :14:40.This mare is such an enthusiastic partner for Isabel. Yesterday an exh

:14:41. > :14:50.I bigs in considerate horsemanship, giving them more -- exhibition in

:14:51. > :15:53.considerate horsemanship. Giving them this for competing today.

:15:54. > :15:58.This is a real nail biter for the judges.

:15:59. > :16:30.It is going to be very, very close. Watching closely...

:16:31. > :16:36.She's not about to make a mistake and throw it away, that's for sure.

:16:37. > :16:50.All that experience. You don't get six Olympic gold

:16:51. > :16:57.medals without learning how to... Exactly!

:16:58. > :17:53.Think correctly under pressure. Fabulous pirouette. She's even

:17:54. > :17:58.smiling. There we go. Coming in and after a sensational performance, in

:17:59. > :18:09.the Grand Prix special to top that, now the freestyle.

:18:10. > :18:14.A round of applause, six times Olympic golds. This week she'd

:18:15. > :18:19.picked up individual gold. I think he knows he might just have been

:18:20. > :18:29.pipped to the post. Well, she couldn't have done any more. It is

:18:30. > :18:36.down to his brilliance and whether the highlights of his test were

:18:37. > :18:40.enough to overtake Isabell who has not made a mistake and done

:18:41. > :18:51.everything technically correct, and in her own unique brilliant way.

:18:52. > :19:07.Isabell's score to come. Well she's had 97.02 in Amsterdam. It is very

:19:08. > :19:15.possible for her to go higher. Superb harmony - the horse willing,

:19:16. > :19:19.supple. It will be lovely if they could be

:19:20. > :19:27.equal. Might have to have a shuffle around for another medal at that

:19:28. > :19:29.point. Surely they stack a spare away

:19:30. > :19:56.somewhere! She knows she's done her best.

:19:57. > :20:03.There's nothing more she can do and it's in the hand of the judges. Time

:20:04. > :20:08.to sit tight and wait for the score. Will it be gold following on from

:20:09. > :20:20.the Grand Prix special yesterday and a brilliant team performance to take

:20:21. > :20:25.gold earlier on in the week? Leading score 90.614 from Rothenberger, also

:20:26. > :20:28.from Germany. Heads the golds at the moment. A deep breath. It's

:20:29. > :20:50.coming... 90.982. It is enough. Yes! It is a philosophical smile because

:20:51. > :20:54.you can see how much it means to Isabell. She's hungry for the win.

:20:55. > :21:04.After all that success it means a huge amount to her. So, let's have a

:21:05. > :21:33.look at that result. : Carl, fourth in the free event and

:21:34. > :21:37.now fourth in the freestyle as well. It hasn't been your week, has it?

:21:38. > :21:41.Not really. You know, to say I'm disappointed is a bit of an

:21:42. > :21:46.understatement. It came here to try and get a bronze in the freestyle.

:21:47. > :21:50.It is my strongest class. However, when I looked at the three horses

:21:51. > :21:53.above me, they are huge quality. They have really, really great

:21:54. > :22:00.horses. They are capable of big scores. And Nip Tuck hasn't done a

:22:01. > :22:04.show since the World Cup in April. He's bounced back, getting better

:22:05. > :22:08.and better and better. I think if I had another day he would be even

:22:09. > :22:12.better. I gave him a fairly easy morning this morning thinking it

:22:13. > :22:17.with us the end of a long week and I paid the price he was a little bit

:22:18. > :22:21.inattentive and spooky in a corner. I lost a few points there. I don't

:22:22. > :22:25.think I would court third place there. I am the only one who's going

:22:26. > :22:31.to remember I am fourth. The horse has come a long way to g et to this

:22:32. > :22:36.level, so it is not all a disaster. Those scores from Germany, up in the

:22:37. > :22:46.90%s. I mean that is incredible scoring, isn't it? Huge scoring.

:22:47. > :22:50.Let's not forget though I Valegro was getting 95. They have to match

:22:51. > :22:57.what he did. He holds the record for that. They are young horses. I would

:22:58. > :23:03.imagine that Sonke's horse that was pipped into the position, that could

:23:04. > :23:09.go all the way and run Allegro close in the future. You are the European

:23:10. > :23:12.champion again. I think I have counted correctly 17 European gold

:23:13. > :23:19.medals. Three of them won this week. Does it ever get boring? No. This

:23:20. > :23:26.was so exciting and such a great competition today. It was a super

:23:27. > :23:33.afternoon. We had great rides and pushing each other, it was super.

:23:34. > :23:40.Germany back in front when it comes to dressage now. Were you pleased to

:23:41. > :23:46.see the vak of Valegro -- back of Valegro? Love to compete against the

:23:47. > :23:51.best ones. And it was really a pity that they decided to retire him. I

:23:52. > :23:55.can understand it. It is always great to retire a horse on the top.

:23:56. > :24:02.But I was hoping, really I was hoping that they could keep on going

:24:03. > :24:05.one, two more years because the horse and, young enough, and OK we

:24:06. > :24:12.have to accept the decision and it is a pity for us. But I think it is

:24:13. > :24:16.really a big, big, big, pity and for the British team and for British

:24:17. > :24:22.dressage at the moment and they need new combinations. So this is, I

:24:23. > :24:28.think for them it is more difficult than for us. Here we go for gold.

:24:29. > :24:43.Skelton... Against the clock... Brilliantly! One left to go! Just

:24:44. > :24:50.gallop to the last! Oh, give him a cheer! For goodness'

:24:51. > :24:58.sake! What a horse, what a rider! It is another gold for Great Britain.

:24:59. > :25:06.Nick Skelton's gold medal - one of the highlights of the Rio Olympics.

:25:07. > :25:09.No British riders here going going for individual honours in Gothenburg

:25:10. > :25:14.after William Whitaker didn't make it through. Today could be Sweden's

:25:15. > :25:21.day. They got silver in the team jumping.

:25:22. > :25:34.Can the gold be brought home for the home crowd? . We hope so. We have a

:25:35. > :25:38.fantastic crowd. He is in terrific form. The horse looks like a

:25:39. > :25:43.machine. So the home crowd, that I are hoping for that big win. The

:25:44. > :25:46.Irish team won the gold in the team. They have been going well

:25:47. > :25:51.individually. Three clear rounds in that final. Cian O'Connor - strong

:25:52. > :25:57.contenders. Shane Sweetnam is in there. The Irish are looking very

:25:58. > :26:00.strong, too. Showjumping, in essence, entoo irly difficult to

:26:01. > :26:13.predict. I will not press you for any more detail. Is it action time.

:26:14. > :26:22.The best 12 going through to the final round later on this last day

:26:23. > :26:26.of the championships. The top five riders all within a sense of the

:26:27. > :26:32.leader of this year's European Championships. Keeping it very close

:26:33. > :26:36.at the top. But the big interests for Ireland with Cian O'Connor and

:26:37. > :26:41.Shane Sweetnam, it is the home nations Sweden that have the biggest

:26:42. > :26:51.interest with the Olympic silver medallist Peder Fredricson leading

:26:52. > :26:59.the way. Belgium, Jerome Guery. This is very good horse and we saw early

:27:00. > :27:04.in the week that the Belgians came out that it was clear after clear.

:27:05. > :27:11.It went wrong in the second round of the team competition but they came

:27:12. > :27:14.out fighting. The riders coming in, taking it more and more seriously,

:27:15. > :27:21.getting closer and closer to the leaders. We are not seeing an

:27:22. > :27:31.abundance of clear rounds. Anything can still happen.

:27:32. > :27:37.That water jump is interesting. It does not look particularly scary

:27:38. > :27:42.when you walk the course but this week the horses have had a bit of a

:27:43. > :27:49.peek at it, and the riders have to put extra pressure on, which am

:27:50. > :27:54.settles the rhythm. -- which unsettles.

:27:55. > :28:12.OK for time. Looks good. 9.20 two. He does all he can this afternoon.

:28:13. > :28:23.With a clear here, it keeps them just in with a faint chance. As you

:28:24. > :28:31.say getting closer and closer to those riders that only have two,

:28:32. > :28:48.three penalties. Anything can happen. We have seen it before.

:28:49. > :28:55.Keeping up a really good pace. Attacks the water. That is the way

:28:56. > :29:11.you have to rider it. This mare is a trier, very athletic.

:29:12. > :29:15.The combination has not caused too many problems. I thought the short

:29:16. > :29:31.five would be more difficult. He follows in his Belgian team-mate

:29:32. > :29:46.and it is clear for Niels Bruynseels. The Netherlands. Jur

:29:47. > :29:51.Vrieling. Team silver in London at the Olympics and gold at the World

:29:52. > :29:57.Equestrian Games and at the last European Championships. Oh, it has

:29:58. > :30:01.been like the Dutch week. They have not featured, surprisingly. It is

:30:02. > :30:13.extraordinary. It really hasn't gone for them. This is a lovely horse but

:30:14. > :30:15.has come in, no concentration. That is a big shock again for the Dutch

:30:16. > :30:31.team. This line, there are options. This

:30:32. > :30:35.one is a regular distance to the yellow oxer but the one before is

:30:36. > :30:39.six or seven and is not in a straight line. So it is not only the

:30:40. > :30:45.length and stride you judge, but the route you take. You have to know

:30:46. > :30:50.your horse and understand the length of your horse's stride. If you do

:30:51. > :30:54.not have a plan, you will be in trouble. In the middle of the

:30:55. > :31:04.combination, it is very short. Short again. The course builders have got

:31:05. > :31:05.this absolutely right. Going to run close to the time allowed, just

:31:06. > :31:31.inside. Germfree lingo is So impressed with Denis Lynch this

:31:32. > :31:47.week. He is improving as a rider. They know each other inside out.

:31:48. > :31:59.A big stallion. Loads of range. Eating that distance. He has taken

:32:00. > :32:01.one out. We have not seen anyone else do that there. It shows how

:32:02. > :32:14.much range this horse has got. I don't know how that happened, but

:32:15. > :32:22.it stayed up. Jumped it on the left-hand side. It hit the wing.

:32:23. > :32:28.That is where he has to shorten. He has taken one out there, as well.

:32:29. > :32:39.Goodness me. You can see how quick he is. Keeps himself at 7.70 six.

:32:40. > :32:54.Spain now. He has had one of his best season so far, Sergio.

:32:55. > :33:08.The only rider for Spain in touching distance of the front group. He is a

:33:09. > :33:11.tricky horse to ride. His neck has more muscle underneath its ban on

:33:12. > :33:26.top. It makes him tricky to ride. Almost like riding a big pony. He is

:33:27. > :33:28.a real trier. He might not be the biggest but he has a lot of range

:33:29. > :33:44.and a big heart. A big struggle between horse and

:33:45. > :33:52.rider to get the balance. Both of these two fighting for everything.

:33:53. > :34:12.When it becomes a struggle, in the end, sometimes, it gets untidy.

:34:13. > :34:32.The previous's -- previous year's winner. Coming back in fine form.

:34:33. > :34:38.They were clear in the second round of the team.

:34:39. > :34:46.Philipp Weishaupt is a fantastic technician who sits beautifully on

:34:47. > :34:57.the horse. Immaculate style. This horse is lovely to watch, a graceful

:34:58. > :35:00.athlete. Very forward down both of those distances and he takes a

:35:01. > :35:08.stride out and makes it look so easy.

:35:09. > :35:15.Still only ten years old, this horse, and it feels like he has been

:35:16. > :35:18.around a while because he won the Aachen Grand Prix as a

:35:19. > :35:26.nine-year-old. He has a wonderful character.

:35:27. > :35:37.Nicely done. He stays on 6.7 three. Clear for Philipp Weishaupt.

:35:38. > :35:49.A super combination. The Dutch man Harrie Smolders. The

:35:50. > :35:58.last couple of seasons this man has been on fire. Winning the Chantilly

:35:59. > :36:03.Grand Prix. This horse was second in Hamburg. They won the Rome Grand

:36:04. > :36:12.Prix in September. Now jumping in his second European Championships

:36:13. > :36:19.with this one. We know the time allowed is achievable but you have

:36:20. > :36:25.to make sure that he keeps Don VHP Z moving. Using his stride there,

:36:26. > :36:32.which he did really well. Horses with a lot of scope can take one

:36:33. > :36:36.less down those distances. He has not touched a fence this week. We

:36:37. > :36:44.had one time fault on the first day of the teams.

:36:45. > :36:53.Very cleverly ridden by Harrie Smolders, making sure he did not

:36:54. > :37:02.jump him too far into the combination. He has done a good job

:37:03. > :37:09.of keeping his pace. A good one by Harrie Smolders, keeping it tight at

:37:10. > :37:14.the top. As we are going in reverse order, he goes to the top of the

:37:15. > :37:24.table. One of the classiest riders in the

:37:25. > :37:28.world of showjumping. Marcus Ehning of Germany. One fence down in the

:37:29. > :37:35.second round of the team competition. Second in the opening

:37:36. > :37:45.speed leg. Marcus has been in this position again and again. He has had

:37:46. > :37:50.Olympic gold medals this season he has been putting in the double

:37:51. > :37:58.clears in Aachen and rotten -- Rotterdam.

:37:59. > :38:06.There are certain riders you come to watch them whether they win or not

:38:07. > :38:15.and Marcus Ehning is one of those. He can relax and you can enjoy his

:38:16. > :38:23.style and technique. If he has a fence, so what, he is a master. He

:38:24. > :38:28.is the style everybody aims for. All of the greats in any sport seem to

:38:29. > :38:32.have more time and make it look that little bit easier than everybody

:38:33. > :38:41.else. It is not fair, but they are born that way!

:38:42. > :38:48.A typical smooth rider. One of the things about this style, he gets a

:38:49. > :38:56.quick round and you do not notice he is going quickly. Oh, and that is

:38:57. > :39:02.that lazy fence. Sometimes Pret a Tout can drop the backend. As we

:39:03. > :39:10.expected, comfortable with the time allowed.

:39:11. > :39:17.Fourth at the moment, going in reverse order. Marcus Ehning, a joy

:39:18. > :39:23.to watch and to see him dropping back.

:39:24. > :39:40.Daniel Goldstein representing Israel internationally. The recent form has

:39:41. > :39:46.been fantastic. -- Danielle Goldstein. This horse was bred in

:39:47. > :39:56.England. A big winner of novice Championships back in the UK.

:39:57. > :40:03.What we have noticed with Danielle Goldstein, she loves to attack the

:40:04. > :40:11.course. She is not afraid to rider positively at the jumps.

:40:12. > :40:35.Tried to set up in the middle of the combination. Very short in. She will

:40:36. > :40:47.not have trouble with the clock, breaking the 70 second barrier.

:40:48. > :41:08.Belgium. Pieter Devos. The second to do that. Yes, so fortunate when you

:41:09. > :41:17.have an early, easy fence down. I say easy, but it is all relative.

:41:18. > :41:27.Now, the next riders after this, it gets really serious. Moving to the

:41:28. > :41:34.top five. All within a fence. For this round, the aim is get the clear

:41:35. > :41:41.round, move on and then take the battle to round B. It is looking

:41:42. > :41:44.obvious that clear rounds are achievable and any riders who have a

:41:45. > :41:57.fence now, it will push them right down. We do not like to make too

:41:58. > :42:01.many predictions, but we expect some clears from the final group. Sales

:42:02. > :42:17.over the last. -- sails. We can see the current

:42:18. > :42:22.leaderboard with Harrie Smolders at the top of it. Denis Lynch has been

:42:23. > :42:33.moving up the position is quite neatly so far. Alberto

:42:34. > :42:45.Zorzi, Cornetto K. The top 12 go into the next round to decide the

:42:46. > :42:52.medals. That second fence, coming away from the entrance, very early

:42:53. > :42:56.on. These horses that have been jumping clear all week, suddenly

:42:57. > :43:00.losing concentration. It is fascinating witch. You would never

:43:01. > :43:05.think that fence would come down with horses and riders of this

:43:06. > :43:20.calibre. In terms of height and size, just

:43:21. > :43:25.over 150. They could come to a fence like that in the collecting ring and

:43:26. > :43:29.jump it 50 times out of 50. A little bit of atmosphere, away from the

:43:30. > :43:36.entrance, it is not always the size of the fence. You are jumping

:43:37. > :43:43.beautifully and immaculately, as he has been all week, after that. So

:43:44. > :43:54.the pattern repeats itself. Italy's best hope will slip down.

:43:55. > :44:07.Cian O'Connor and Good Luck. He has needed little luck this week. It has

:44:08. > :44:11.been about the plan. He won in Poland with this horse early this

:44:12. > :44:19.season and as always the championship, he keeps himself in

:44:20. > :44:24.contention. Walking the course early on, looking at Cian O'Connor walking

:44:25. > :44:29.the course with Jerry, his long-time mentor and the two of them are

:44:30. > :44:33.leaving no stone unturned. They walked the course over and over and

:44:34. > :44:45.discussed every last little bit of what they are going to do.

:44:46. > :44:59.This is a little horse with a massive engine.

:45:00. > :45:08.He's keeping up a good pace. Should be OK against the clock to make sure

:45:09. > :45:12.he gets under the 75 seconds. Shortens up for the Fife. Just one

:45:13. > :45:19.to go. -- five. Just one to go.

:45:20. > :45:23.Cian O'Connor, to keep the Irish flag very much in for a potential of

:45:24. > :45:28.a double gold this week. You never know it is clear from Cian and good

:45:29. > :45:32.luck. That is definitely, Andy, a man with a plan.

:45:33. > :45:40.Thaul planning and hard work paying off.

:45:41. > :45:49.You could see he rode his plan to perfection.

:45:50. > :45:50.Shane Sweetnam, 2.10. Just a fraction ahead of Cian O'Connor for

:45:51. > :46:09.the rider. Chaqui Z has come here jumping and

:46:10. > :46:18.Shane has ridden brilliantly - hasn't put a foot wrong.

:46:19. > :46:27.Shane, with big backing from America, has definitely stepped up.

:46:28. > :46:31.Always been a top rider. Brilliant! Executed his plan to

:46:32. > :46:35.perfection down there. He's able to take the stride out.

:46:36. > :46:41.And then you can see the instant control to shorten what he wants to.

:46:42. > :46:51.This is really, really classy at the moment.

:46:52. > :46:59.That was bad luck. He looked like he had got everything he wanted there.

:47:00. > :47:01.We had not seen that fence come down.

:47:02. > :47:09.He will get inside the time. The four to add, that will move Cian

:47:10. > :47:14.O'Connor up above Shane Sweetnam. 6.1. Shan egos into third.

:47:15. > :47:48.Two to come. Young. In Martin Fuchs. Didn't use his

:47:49. > :47:52.shoulders at the double. So Cian O'Connor. At the top.

:47:53. > :47:58.Harrie Smolders continues to move up. And actually, will stay ahead of

:47:59. > :48:08.Shane Sweetnam at the moment. Still a long way to go here.

:48:09. > :48:15.Clearly one of those horses, you know he's super talented, but just

:48:16. > :48:29.now and again lets himself down. He's not quite on it today.

:48:30. > :48:41.So it is all over for Martin Fuchs. Cian O'Connor, tlaul. 10.03 in the

:48:42. > :48:50.end - for Martin Fuchs and Clooney. Dejection in the Swiss squad there.

:48:51. > :48:56.Peder Fredicson, on a 0 score. He leads the way. He's been exactly

:48:57. > :49:00.that since the start of this week. And well, he's just been

:49:01. > :49:04.consistently there all the time. Silver individually at the Olympic

:49:05. > :49:09.games in 2016. The man who took Nick Skelton to the closest for the

:49:10. > :49:17.Olympic title, but Nick pipped him at the post. No Nick Skelton this

:49:18. > :49:21.time. It's a clear run. I watched Peder when he was walking

:49:22. > :49:25.the course. He's got his pen and paper. He's writing all the

:49:26. > :49:28.distances down as he's walking them. Riding the course in his head. He's

:49:29. > :50:01.such a perfectionist. Not extravagant. He's not the most

:50:02. > :50:05.pretty-looking horse, but he's been like a machine at these

:50:06. > :50:07.championships. Well, is that the wake-up call he needed? He was very

:50:08. > :50:19.lucky there. Trying to lift him over every fence.

:50:20. > :50:43.He's done it. He's done it. All the way to the top

:50:44. > :50:50.and staying there. Peder Fredicson. H M All In.

:50:51. > :50:54.A smile across the face of Mullins and the rest of the stadium as well.

:50:55. > :50:58.I think we were all willing him over that one, Andy. We were. That was

:50:59. > :51:03.incredible riding. He was in big trouble in the combination. He made

:51:04. > :51:09.up too much ground. That is whatted a true, top rider can do -- - what a

:51:10. > :51:13.true top rider can do. He had to make it physical, where he's so

:51:14. > :51:41.smooth. He shortened that and he got the horse over. He's home.

:51:42. > :51:51.The scream that went up when Peder Fredicson landed that last fence.

:51:52. > :52:00.Peder Fredicson is the man to beat. It is very close. The Irish are hot

:52:01. > :52:04.on his heels. Three Irish riders all within a shout of the medal.

:52:05. > :52:15.The final stage - our top 12. They will go in reverse order.

:52:16. > :52:18.Jerome Guery to start things off. Sweet two more Ireland and Peder

:52:19. > :52:26.Fredicson producing yet another clear round in our previous

:52:27. > :52:31.competition. H All In, comes through with a clean sheet, in gold

:52:32. > :52:37.medal position. Yes, it is a royal occasion, too.

:52:38. > :52:43.They have joined in applause with the crowd. There Peder Fredicson

:52:44. > :52:48.going through the warm-up stages. There will not be much other than

:52:49. > :52:52.just keeping it lose, I suspect. Don't leave your jumping in the

:52:53. > :52:57.collecting ring. They don't need to jump many fences now before they

:52:58. > :53:03.come in. It is mainly about keeping them warm, keeping their muscles

:53:04. > :53:08.right and mentally focussed. Jerome Guery then first to start off the

:53:09. > :53:12.final stage of the European Championship final here in

:53:13. > :53:18.Gothenburg. Starts on 9.22. Rider from Belgium. We will see him start

:53:19. > :53:22.things off with the horse which won at Miami beach, earlier on this

:53:23. > :53:36.season. Very, very different setting. Toll go with Grand Cru Van

:53:37. > :53:38.De Rozenberg. This will be fascinating to see how he goes from

:53:39. > :53:56.what we glean from this later on. Time allowed, 66. Those like Cian

:53:57. > :53:58.O'Connor, Peder Fredicson - they are watching intensely to make sure they

:53:59. > :54:26.know how fast to go, where to turn. Huge massive fences. This,er here.

:54:27. > :54:32.No fillers. Really square. You see the extra effort the horses have to

:54:33. > :54:41.make. Another huge oxer there. This is the

:54:42. > :54:49.power line. The time does look pretty tight.

:54:50. > :54:56.That really is big line He's going to be over that time by just a

:54:57. > :55:03.fraction. Just over. 66. 69. And will take the score up to 14.

:55:04. > :55:08.25, to add for Jerome Guery of gellum. But Andy, we can see -- of

:55:09. > :55:13.Belgium, but Andy we can see it will not be an easy finish. This track is

:55:14. > :55:17.what we thought it was - it is power, it is stamina. This last

:55:18. > :55:26.line, it takes so much grunt from the horse and you see there just a

:55:27. > :55:30.step too far for Grand Cru. A huge, huge stretch over the water tray in

:55:31. > :55:48.the combination. Belgium represented by Niels

:55:49. > :55:52.Bruynseels now. Cas De Liberte has had a fantastic season. Back in the

:55:53. > :55:58.early part of the year, back in April, but has been a contender in

:55:59. > :56:02.their nation's cup campaign, where they finished top of Division 2.

:56:03. > :56:13.Just over two fences of that leading position.

:56:14. > :56:45.This mare, not if biggest. She's got a huge heart.

:56:46. > :56:52.The Belgiums have come out very, very strongly after what has been a

:56:53. > :56:56.difficult time. They have a great group of riders together at the

:56:57. > :57:03.moment. They have. They have pulled together under their new chef. Can

:57:04. > :57:07.this plucky mare make that effort to jump down the combination? 160 going

:57:08. > :57:14.in. Fantastic effort in the middle there.

:57:15. > :57:34.9.84 will be the finishing score for Belgium and Niels Bruynseels, Cas De

:57:35. > :57:39.Liberte. You have to love this mare - she's an out and out trier. When

:57:40. > :57:45.your want your horse to dig deep. There's only so much as a rider you

:57:46. > :58:00.can do. A lovely mare. She gave it everything. Look at the stretch and

:58:01. > :58:04.the effort over that oxer there. Germany's Marcus Ehning, was in

:58:05. > :58:12.second place earlier on this week. He's slipped back and now a score of

:58:13. > :58:24.8. 8.59. Two faults in two rounds with him with Pret A Tout.

:58:25. > :58:31.The route this man takes is the one always to watch, isn't it, Andy?

:58:32. > :58:35.Yes, he just shaves off little bits of time everywhere. As soon as he

:58:36. > :58:42.lands he's smoothly away from the French. -- from the fence. In the

:58:43. > :58:48.end, it might not matter, actually thinking about it if Peder Fredicson

:58:49. > :58:55.gets a time fault. He jumps clear. He can actually get two. So, for him

:58:56. > :59:07.it is not too big a deal. For the other medals it could well be.

:59:08. > :59:13.This will give us a good indicator of time.

:59:14. > :59:15.Marcus just edging off, as you say, all the wasmt He's going to be well

:59:16. > :59:19.inside. Marcus Ehning, class as ever.

:59:20. > :59:43.63. 45. It is obvious it is not a technical

:59:44. > :59:48.course. It is about power and stammered. The distances regular. It

:59:49. > :59:56.is just really if you're horse has the jump left. And has the power to

:59:57. > :59:59.jump that last line. Marcus, as always, making it look a little bit

:00:00. > :00:11.too easy and very smooth, very regular. The Germans happy enough

:00:12. > :00:17.with that. The closest contender through the week for them. This lady

:00:18. > :00:27.has risen up during the week. And will be closely watched by many.

:00:28. > :00:36.Danielle Goldstein of Israel. Flew around early in the week. She won

:00:37. > :00:46.big Grand Prix this season. This horse only joined her in September

:00:47. > :00:52.last year. They have franked their form. It is a horse you know well

:00:53. > :01:05.and has more and more gears. We have given everybody else a mention. Kim,

:01:06. > :01:10.where the horse was produced. But also Scott. I know he is at home

:01:11. > :01:15.watching this. This is a horse that has been produced, bred, and trained

:01:16. > :01:22.in Britain. Unfortunately not jumping on the British team. A horse

:01:23. > :01:29.that won the King George V Gold Cup last year before coming to the

:01:30. > :01:35.stable of Danielle Goldstein. She has quickly built a partnership. Her

:01:36. > :01:39.reputation and standing in the sport has rocketed up over the last few

:01:40. > :02:02.months. I have been so impressed with her here.

:02:03. > :02:13.This mare, Lizziemary, has a big heart. Always trying every inch of

:02:14. > :02:18.the way. Just have the odd unlucky fence but whatever happens this

:02:19. > :02:20.week, Danielle Goldstein and this mare, they have done themselves

:02:21. > :02:41.proud and been very impressive. Under the guidance of Elena

:02:42. > :02:46.Dickenson. She would be somebody to have in your corner. We will look at

:02:47. > :02:57.the time, not too far away. Definitely achievable. 12.49 will be

:02:58. > :03:02.the final score. A solid performance. Very solid. She is

:03:03. > :03:10.unlucky there. Just touching the vertical. Did not do anything wrong.

:03:11. > :03:19.These fences are so huge. 1.16 metres. After the triple bar, really

:03:20. > :03:26.difficult to jump. It has been a crowd pleaser, this week. They will

:03:27. > :03:30.see some fences, that might be up to verticals that height, but they have

:03:31. > :03:44.wrapped it up here to another level. Pieter Devos. Danielle Goldstein.

:03:45. > :03:52.Two fences of the leading score for Pieter Devos. This horse going well

:03:53. > :03:58.this season. Jumping well in the nations cup in Austria, where

:03:59. > :03:59.Belgium have top Division 2 to go back into the top flight next

:04:00. > :04:28.season. Making a good start. This is a horse

:04:29. > :04:49.you think this kind of course would suit because he has so much power.

:04:50. > :05:03.A big press in the middle and gets the answer he was looking for. He

:05:04. > :05:09.will be OK. All he can do is sit back and see what the rest do. It

:05:10. > :05:14.could be a medal, it may not. He has jumped a clear round, he has to sit

:05:15. > :05:20.and watch. Starting to get to the business end. That was a lovely

:05:21. > :05:26.round. Pieter Devos with Espoir, that tracksuited them. Accurate

:05:27. > :05:31.riding. Plenty of power under the bonnet. Just the kind of horse to

:05:32. > :05:38.jump these big fences. A very good job. Monday back to being involved

:05:39. > :05:44.in the family fruit and veg business. A busy character. He has

:05:45. > :05:53.certainly delivered for Belgium throughout the weekend is their

:05:54. > :05:59.closest finish at 8.0 five. Island with huge interest.

:06:00. > :06:20.-- Ireland with huge interest. Denis Lynch of Ireland. All Star five. A

:06:21. > :06:26.horse he rode at the Equestrian games. A past winner of the

:06:27. > :06:33.Barcelona Grand Prix. Solid all the way. This big bouncing powerhouse

:06:34. > :06:39.has all the capability at this. There is nothing like making a

:06:40. > :06:45.prediction in showjumping, but this horse has power in abundance. We

:06:46. > :06:50.have seen him jump huge oxers over many years with effortless ease. You

:06:51. > :06:58.would like to think this would be a good course for these two. My

:06:59. > :07:03.question here would be time. Well... We know he has power, but he lost

:07:04. > :07:10.that concentration. Sometimes towards the end of the week, fatigue

:07:11. > :07:14.slipping in. This horse can jump a mountain. The great thing about

:07:15. > :07:27.showjumping, you have to be careful over the tricky early fences.

:07:28. > :07:33.And that feeling as a rider when you have the first fence down in a

:07:34. > :07:38.pressure moment, the kind of jump you know you're horse can jump all

:07:39. > :07:43.day long, it makes your heart sink but you have to put it behind you

:07:44. > :07:49.and finish your round off. Keep your focus. Watching him over the couple

:07:50. > :08:07.of big oxers, so easy. A fraction behind on time. But a

:08:08. > :08:11.mark of a professional. The first goes but you have to pick yourself

:08:12. > :08:16.up and get on with it. He did that and the rest of the round was

:08:17. > :08:21.copybook so massive disappointment. He has gone really well all week.

:08:22. > :08:26.Good old All Star five has been a fantastic servant. Watch the first.

:08:27. > :08:37.Maybe he was a fraction loose and open. He jumped it 99 times out of

:08:38. > :08:44.100. Going into fifth place but that will change because we are going in

:08:45. > :09:01.reverse order. Alberto Zorzi. A name that has shot into the ranks in the

:09:02. > :09:11.last two seasons. Cornetto K. Less than two fences off the leader here.

:09:12. > :09:17.The man behind the stable watching. Alberto winning at the Monaco Grand

:09:18. > :09:22.Prix. A home victory for the Italians in Rome, the first time in

:09:23. > :09:29.34 years. Now he will try to deliver success here.

:09:30. > :09:37.The older generation are having to really fight for their places on the

:09:38. > :09:39.rankings now because there is a new breed of superstar rider coming

:09:40. > :09:46.through. And this man is one of them.

:09:47. > :10:00.Again, Andy, he will creep up into that Marcus Ehning category of cool

:10:01. > :10:02.and relaxed. He is already there. I love watching him. He is very good

:10:03. > :10:14.in his temperament and technique. A nice easy five strides, just

:10:15. > :10:23.watching the time. You see, he moved up a gear. He could just be a

:10:24. > :10:28.fraction slower. He will be behind the clock. 66 seconds allowed. He

:10:29. > :10:44.takes the clear, but 68.0 four. The score, it will not make a huge

:10:45. > :10:50.difference. The time fault is not such a big problem. He showed his

:10:51. > :10:54.class. He steadied up slightly in the middle of the course and the

:10:55. > :11:01.margins are so fine, if you break your rhythm anywhere, it is hard to

:11:02. > :11:07.get your timing. He tried to make it up. He was aware he was a little bit

:11:08. > :11:18.slow. The Italians are rightly proud and there will be many more

:11:19. > :11:28.championships where he will figure. Philipp Weishaupt, Germany. Winning

:11:29. > :11:31.the Aachen Grand Prix last year. Making his championship debut here.

:11:32. > :11:41.He has missed out on a number of occasions. Now with this horse,

:11:42. > :11:53.which was out of action for a little while but back into it now.

:11:54. > :12:11.Ludger Beerbaum, a man behind him in training. That is quite

:12:12. > :12:15.extraordinary! Not only does he get four penalties for the stop, but he

:12:16. > :12:22.will get a lot of time faults, as well. That has blown Philipp

:12:23. > :12:28.Weishaupt's chances out of the water totally. What a shame. I absolutely

:12:29. > :12:33.love this horse. He knows him well, he has had him since he was a

:12:34. > :12:37.youngster. He was not expecting that. But they are animals and they

:12:38. > :12:43.have their own mind and he suddenly took a dislike to the fence. It has

:12:44. > :12:50.unsettled him and unfortunately this round will be one he wants to

:12:51. > :12:55.forget. It all starts to unravel. The concentration goes, be horse is

:12:56. > :12:59.unsettled and if it has a stop, it makes them edgy. You know, that

:13:00. > :13:06.should not have happened. It gets untidy. As we said it will put a

:13:07. > :13:21.raft of time faults on top. Philipp Weishaupt and LB Convall.

:13:22. > :13:27.16. A chunk of that for time. The wheels came off down the road. It

:13:28. > :13:31.was extraordinary. He is spooked at the fence and he is a cheeky

:13:32. > :13:37.stallion. He said, I don't like the look of that. We should remember

:13:38. > :13:43.Alberto Zorzi is actually in the lead. There are a few horses and

:13:44. > :13:51.riders knocking fences down and things going wrong and we are

:13:52. > :13:55.beginning to run out of riders. Peder Fredricson, off the horse at

:13:56. > :14:08.the moment, as we come to the final four. This man on a score of 6.1.

:14:09. > :14:20.Two for the Irish. The Netherlands and Sweden are in there. Shane

:14:21. > :14:26.Sweetnam. And Chaqui Z. Back in 2001 they won the team gold. And now he

:14:27. > :14:31.has just got to keep finding that little bit more. Four in the last

:14:32. > :14:37.round. You wonder how much is left in this pair.

:14:38. > :14:44.It will be interesting to see how easily. He jumped a couple of these

:14:45. > :14:55.earlier fences and see if there's plenty of fuel left in the tank.

:14:56. > :15:02.Such a test of carefulness after the triple bar.

:15:03. > :15:09.First of the really big fences. No problems at all.

:15:10. > :15:24.This to go ahead if he can stay clear down here.

:15:25. > :15:29.Oh! Desperately unlucky! That vertical... Dropping down the order.

:15:30. > :15:40.He's put a good effort up all week. 10. 104. Slip him to fifth place w

:15:41. > :15:44.three still to come. It's been a fight towards the end. But just out

:15:45. > :15:49.of contention. The Irish, whatever happens, they go away with medals in

:15:50. > :15:53.their pocket. Well, it is looking that way. You'll be better than

:15:54. > :16:00.doing the maths than me, Steve. What happens if one of the next rider has

:16:01. > :16:06.a fence? Well, does that guarantee a medal? Not quite. I will work it out

:16:07. > :16:09.and get back to you. I will transtrait on this one first. --

:16:10. > :16:13.concentrate on this one first. Harrie Smolders, into our medal

:16:14. > :16:53.positions. 5.5.2. With Don VHP A really solid clear jumping horse.

:16:54. > :17:00.This is where they have to produce it again.

:17:01. > :17:02.Well, I am sure the Light family will be watching intently - this

:17:03. > :17:21.horse was produced by them. So, if I have this right if he jumps

:17:22. > :17:23.clear he's guaranteed at least a Bronze Medal. Yes.

:17:24. > :17:37.Correct. He's not hurrying around here. He

:17:38. > :17:47.doesn't look worried about the odd time fault. Actually on 5. 2.

:17:48. > :17:48.One won't make a huge difference. The most he'll get is one time

:17:49. > :18:09.fault. He's done it! Gets in by a fraction.

:18:10. > :18:18.. And into a medal position for Harrie Smolders. A part of Sussex

:18:19. > :18:23.that will cheering that one along. This horse, produced there, was a

:18:24. > :18:28.big winner back in the UK and very, very popular.

:18:29. > :18:36.Cian O'Connor, riding with Irish hopes once again. They were gold

:18:37. > :18:40.medallists in the team. Cian needs to do what he does so

:18:41. > :18:47.well now and produce it under pressure again.

:18:48. > :18:53.That last round looked fresh, ready to go. He's a naturally powerful

:18:54. > :18:59.horse. Very unlucky to run out of energy. He's looked pure class all

:19:00. > :19:04.the way through. So, you know, I don't expect him to find that the

:19:05. > :19:09.power fence is a problem. But there are so many different little tricky

:19:10. > :19:13.fences out there as well with the odd vertical, anything could happen.

:19:14. > :19:26.Anything can happen. The Irish will watch intently. Harrie Smolders

:19:27. > :19:27.riding out. Cian O'Connor riding potentially for his medal. Harrie

:19:28. > :19:53.Smolders we know will be up there. Ridden in this situation for the

:19:54. > :20:01.team several times and to secure that medal earlier in the week.

:20:02. > :20:07.There's the offence. It wasn't the power fence. It was a little

:20:08. > :20:12.vertical. A big vertical, but no fillers. Those are the types of

:20:13. > :20:18.fences when the fatigue creeps in that can cost you a medal. Harrie

:20:19. > :20:25.Smolders moves up. Well, guaranteed a silver.

:20:26. > :20:35.Cian has to really focus here. 6. 25 would still get him the bronze.

:20:36. > :20:43.And he's going to get there inside of time. 64. 77. Into Bronze Medal

:20:44. > :20:48.position. Harrie Smolders stays ahead.

:20:49. > :20:51.But either way, he goes with two medals in the cabinet after this

:20:52. > :20:57.week. He's not had a bad week. He's

:20:58. > :21:02.definitely got a medal and who is to say what colour it will be. We have

:21:03. > :21:08.our last ride tore go. Great reaction from Cian. He saluted the

:21:09. > :21:13.crowd. He's obviously disappointed. It was just that big vertical. A

:21:14. > :21:20.little bit of fatigue crept in. As we thought he would, he ate the big

:21:21. > :21:27.oxers. One to come. So that Bronze Medal

:21:28. > :21:36.position, this is what it comes down to. Peder Fredicson. Silver

:21:37. > :21:43.medallist in Rio. H All In. He can actually have a

:21:44. > :21:49.fence and a time fault and still win the Europe peen championship.

:21:50. > :21:52.-- European Championship. In Rio it was Nick Skelton that

:21:53. > :22:13.denied him the title. Sweden holds its breath.

:22:14. > :22:18.Just showed signs of a little bit of fatigue in the last round.

:22:19. > :22:35.Can he just keep fighting? Deafly silence in this arena. Had to

:22:36. > :22:40.make an extra stride there. Got to push forward to stretch over the

:22:41. > :22:50.oxer. Final line. 66 time allowed, but he

:22:51. > :22:55.can have time faults. Oh, cannot afford another one. Now

:22:56. > :23:01.he could get one time and get there. He's going to play close. Incredibly

:23:02. > :23:08.close. It's five fine in the end. It's gold for Sweden on home ground

:23:09. > :23:20.and a deserved performer. When he hit that fence he hit it

:23:21. > :23:26.really hard. I thought for a second he would fall apart. All In fought

:23:27. > :23:36.and fought and fought. And combha what a fantastic result.

:23:37. > :23:44.The Royal Family watching on. Peder Fredicson is European champion. In

:23:45. > :23:51.Rio Nick Skelton denied them there. Harrie Smolders, as we mentioned,

:23:52. > :24:00.will take silver. Cian O'Connor will take another medal home in bronze.

:24:01. > :24:06.Here's that last line. Quite a bad mistake and fortunately didn't pit

:24:07. > :24:10.him off. Hit it -- put him off. Hit it quite hard, actually. That must

:24:11. > :24:15.have been a heart-stopping moment for the connections. When he cleared

:24:16. > :24:23.the last fence, huge relief. Individual final table here in

:24:24. > :24:29.Gothenburg - European champion, Peder Fredicson, H All In.

:24:30. > :24:34.It is bronze for Ireland. It is double medals for them here and it

:24:35. > :24:38.is Cian O'Connor that takes the bronze with Good Luck.

:24:39. > :24:45.Peder, congratulations! Describe how it feels to clear the last, hear

:24:46. > :24:47.that roar and know you are European champion on your home soil? It was

:24:48. > :24:54.very special. What did it feel like? First, to win

:24:55. > :24:58.the Europeans at home, in front of my people is amazing and then also

:24:59. > :25:08.to be last out and I was still in the arena when I knew I had a medal,

:25:09. > :25:12.the feeling is undescribable. What a week Cian for Irish showjumping -

:25:13. > :25:18.you must be chuffed to bits? It is brilliant to win a meed. If you told

:25:19. > :25:22.me I would -- to win a medal. If you told me a bronze. A little bit

:25:23. > :25:27.upset. What went wrong? Rushed the vertical. I think I rushed the turn

:25:28. > :25:32.to the bar. He shot forward up that line and I supported him at the

:25:33. > :25:36.vertical but maybe didn't hold on to him enough. He had a rub. He jumped

:25:37. > :25:39.brilliant the rest of the way. The combination, gave it five feet.
