0:00:06 > 0:00:12What a competition. This horse has been absolutely brilliant.

0:00:13 > 0:00:31Exceptional. What a fabulous combination. And that was easy. He

0:00:32 > 0:00:34is away over it. Hello and welcome to the South West corner of Poland,

0:00:35 > 0:00:38we are quite near the border with the Czech Republic but this is the

0:00:39 > 0:00:43heartland of Polish equestrianism and that is why it has been chosen

0:00:44 > 0:00:48to host the European Eventing Championships. It has been awhile

0:00:49 > 0:00:53since Great Britain won top honours at an event like this, silver and a

0:00:54 > 0:00:58couple of years ago was supposed to set them up for glory at the

0:00:59 > 0:01:05Olympics but as we know, it didn't quite go according to plan. Stepping

0:01:06 > 0:01:12up for the silver medal, the British team. Hasn't she done well? Nicola

0:01:13 > 0:01:19Wilson, she has had such a great season. She will be thrilled to be

0:01:20 > 0:01:26back. Then the man who has led Britain to so many medals, William

0:01:27 > 0:01:41Fox-Pitt. Kitty King. Just a little bit greedy.

0:01:42 > 0:01:49Not doing what she dreamt of. Of that fifth placed team in the

0:01:50 > 0:01:54Olympics, here in Poland we had a whole different group of riders

0:01:55 > 0:01:59competing, faces you will recognise, bags of experience on the team, but

0:02:00 > 0:02:05as for the horses, there are plenty of new ones at this level of the

0:02:06 > 0:02:09competition. I think it is a very strong team and every rider is

0:02:10 > 0:02:15competitive. They are team players and I think the horses that are

0:02:16 > 0:02:18going to Poland, there are a lot of younger horses on the team, which I

0:02:19 > 0:02:22think is very promising for the future. We all know each other

0:02:23 > 0:02:26really well, we compete against each other during the year and most of

0:02:27 > 0:02:29the time we are trying to beat each other and now we are working

0:02:30 > 0:02:35together. There is a really good feel about the team, everyone is

0:02:36 > 0:02:42very excited to be here, the new management have been very good and

0:02:43 > 0:02:47positive. I would have competed at one star higher than this, but never

0:02:48 > 0:02:51represented by country as a senior European, so this is definitely a

0:02:52 > 0:03:05step up into the kind of pressure and achievement, really.

0:03:06 > 0:03:13Bulana is a lovely horse to ride. We hope she can keep on improving. 12

0:03:14 > 0:03:24macro is a very good-looking horse, he is very brave he has a fantastic

0:03:25 > 0:03:28jumping technique -- Billy The Red. I have to use all my experience with

0:03:29 > 0:03:40him to guide enthusiasm in the right direction. I have had Cooley SRS

0:03:41 > 0:03:47since he was five years old. He is very young to be there. I think he

0:03:48 > 0:03:54has got the talent to be there and he has definitely had good form in

0:03:55 > 0:04:00the past. Allstar B has a heart of gold. He is very brave, whatever I

0:04:01 > 0:04:08put him out, I can trust he is going to give it a go. It is quite a flat

0:04:09 > 0:04:13course, some big tactical questions around the water fences. I think it

0:04:14 > 0:04:17will be a bit of a speed test. It will be hard and fast and very

0:04:18 > 0:04:23accurate. You need a horse that is quite nimble and quick thinking and

0:04:24 > 0:04:29one that is brave, because as it is a European Championship, they will

0:04:30 > 0:04:32be pushing it to the maximum. My aim is to achieve some personal bests

0:04:33 > 0:04:39for my own goals and hopefully that will be good enough to finish near

0:04:40 > 0:04:44the top. You're in it to win it, for me, this year the team is the most

0:04:45 > 0:04:49important thing. Being European champion was incredibly special and

0:04:50 > 0:04:57being number one, bad memory stays with you for years and I wanted

0:04:58 > 0:05:01again. Joining us for the coverage is Harry Mead, world silver

0:05:02 > 0:05:07medallist a few years ago. What do you make of this British team? There

0:05:08 > 0:05:14is a real mix of youth and experience. There is plenty of

0:05:15 > 0:05:18experience, you have Oliver Townend, he is hugely experienced. It is the

0:05:19 > 0:05:42first time on the team for 68. -- Rosalind Canter. Nicola Wilson is

0:05:43 > 0:05:47our rider in form as well. She now has her new ride, Bulana. The

0:05:48 > 0:05:51Olympics are now behind us, we are into a new Olympic cycle and that is

0:05:52 > 0:05:57one of the main focuses for the riders, what can we expect from a

0:05:58 > 0:06:03first major Championship post-Olympics. The first thing is to

0:06:04 > 0:06:07come here and try to win medals, totally forgetting, the context of

0:06:08 > 0:06:11the cycle, it is about peaking at this Championship, going home

0:06:12 > 0:06:15preferably with their team gold medal. Seen it in the context of the

0:06:16 > 0:06:19other championships, it is a chance to set us up for the World

0:06:20 > 0:06:26Championships next year and aim towards Tokyo in 2020. Thank you.

0:06:27 > 0:06:32Let us look at how the riders get on with the first phase of every

0:06:33 > 0:06:35three-day event is the dressage. The Germans dominated from day one,

0:06:36 > 0:06:41their experience and star quality really showed. The competitor who

0:06:42 > 0:06:47won the European gold 20 years ago and who is riding at ten European

0:06:48 > 0:06:59Championships picked up just 24.60 penalties to put well ahead of the

0:07:00 > 0:07:06field. Ingrid KLIMKE is six points behind her. Gemma Tattersall

0:07:07 > 0:07:10finished the dressage in fourth place, she is not part of the

0:07:11 > 0:07:20British team, she is competing as an individual rider here and she scored

0:07:21 > 0:07:25a personal best of 33.1. Germany, favourites for the title with a huge

0:07:26 > 0:07:28lead, they are 24 points clear in the gold medal position, France and

0:07:29 > 0:07:33the reigning Olympic champions are in silver place and they are just

0:07:34 > 0:07:40not .1 of a penalty point ahead of Great Britain in bronze medal place.

0:07:41 > 0:07:47He is a lovely horse, he tries so hard and he is so beautiful and it

0:07:48 > 0:07:51makes my job easier. This is how the individual standings look. Gemma

0:07:52 > 0:07:57Tattersall, is in fourth place with Nicola Wilson, the leading team

0:07:58 > 0:08:03rider in seventh place. My aim, for me personally was to do a personal

0:08:04 > 0:08:09best on her and I did that. That is amazing and I am not too far behind

0:08:10 > 0:08:13Ingrid and I could not be prouder of my horse. Dressage is always a

0:08:14 > 0:08:22pleasure to watch but the real crowd pleaser at any event, is the cross

0:08:23 > 0:08:26country. A test of teamwork and stamina and we have been on the

0:08:27 > 0:08:32course here to see what lies in wait for those out here at the European

0:08:33 > 0:08:37Championships. This is the European capital of granite production. Large

0:08:38 > 0:08:41elements of this fence have been carved out of the stone, but it is

0:08:42 > 0:08:46not the toughest challenge on this course. It is an easy fence to get

0:08:47 > 0:08:52you into your rhythm, let's look at the proper course. This is the

0:08:53 > 0:08:56fourth fence and the first real question mark. It is one of the most

0:08:57 > 0:09:03difficult combinations on the course. Full is to the key here are

0:09:04 > 0:09:07the lines through this. It is not a straight line, you have the first

0:09:08 > 0:09:10fence and the first angled brush and the second angled brush over the top

0:09:11 > 0:09:16and there is a slight kink in it. Once we get to this point, you have

0:09:17 > 0:09:20a slight change of angle and it is only a three stride combination. It

0:09:21 > 0:09:25happens in a split second and in that short space of time, the horse

0:09:26 > 0:09:34has got to see the fence, understand where they are going and stay on the

0:09:35 > 0:09:37line. Everyone loves a water complex and there is a novel going on in

0:09:38 > 0:09:39this lake, isn't there. You're met with this enormous big square

0:09:40 > 0:09:43corner. They have made this in quite a clever way more difficult, because

0:09:44 > 0:09:46normally a corner comes to a point with the flag about here, which

0:09:47 > 0:09:52means that the point that you would jump at is whether flag is now. By

0:09:53 > 0:09:55designing it like this where it cuts off, almost like the nose of a slice

0:09:56 > 0:10:01of cheese, forces you to jump it at a wider point to make it more

0:10:02 > 0:10:08difficult fence. Having jumped it, we curve right handed over at this

0:10:09 > 0:10:11brush roll-top. What difference does that make for the horses? Jumping in

0:10:12 > 0:10:16and out of water? It is more of a visual concept than the drag of the

0:10:17 > 0:10:21water. He would ride basically the same, as if that was a sunken road

0:10:22 > 0:10:24with no water in it, but it means the horses taking off out of water

0:10:25 > 0:10:29and land on what, they are keen to get their feet back down on the

0:10:30 > 0:10:32ground and often do not throw such a generous jump. To this last element,

0:10:33 > 0:10:58it is another quite aggressive corner the angled, it means if you

0:10:59 > 0:11:01come up the inside line, you're compromising the ideal approach to

0:11:02 > 0:11:03the last section. What I would do here is jump nice and forwards,

0:11:04 > 0:11:06positively in and stay on a wider line so you're covering a greater

0:11:07 > 0:11:08distance of ground and therefore the stride length, in order to keep the

0:11:09 > 0:11:11strides around to the last element. Here we are at this smart picnic

0:11:12 > 0:11:14table. What do you make of it? The key to getting a fast time it's been

0:11:15 > 0:11:17able to keep up the same rhythm. There are plenty of places where you

0:11:18 > 0:11:23could easily glance off by having a run out and pick up 20 penalties. It

0:11:24 > 0:11:27was certainly ice cream weather yesterday, today it is a little bit

0:11:28 > 0:11:31overcast, there has been some rain but not the thunderstorms that were

0:11:32 > 0:11:37forecast. Different conditions, how will that affect the course and the

0:11:38 > 0:11:41horses? It is perfect. No startling sunlight or a big shadows. We have

0:11:42 > 0:11:45not had the torrential weather, that is a shame for the British team,

0:11:46 > 0:11:53they are looking to make up a big gap between the Germans and us and

0:11:54 > 0:11:56the French. Crucially, the Germans can afford to lose any one of the

0:11:57 > 0:12:00riders and still maintain that pole position. We are really looking for

0:12:01 > 0:12:06hopefully some reasonable upsets to shovel the pack. How do the British

0:12:07 > 0:12:11team go at cross country? Do you think we will be to close the gap on

0:12:12 > 0:12:14the Germans? We have traditionally been the number one and hopefully

0:12:15 > 0:12:18that will continue. We have experienced riders and good horses.

0:12:19 > 0:12:24There are some big technical line. I am sure they will be all up for it.

0:12:25 > 0:12:29Anything can happen. Britain line in bronze medal position just after the

0:12:30 > 0:12:35dressage. Harry is off to our commentary box. Welcome to the

0:12:36 > 0:12:39European Eventing Championships 2017. I am Adam and joining me

0:12:40 > 0:12:45today, an man who has ridden at the highest level, Harry Mead. First,

0:12:46 > 0:12:51let us look at the track they will be faced with. As they head out on

0:12:52 > 0:12:55the chorus. We start over the first three fences, those are big fences

0:12:56 > 0:12:59but quite easy, the fourth fence is the big test and then it is uphill

0:13:00 > 0:13:06and then the first look at the water. Looping back over the wide

0:13:07 > 0:13:10combination, down the hill and this takes us to the first major water on

0:13:11 > 0:13:18track. As you come in, it is all about those tight angles, you have

0:13:19 > 0:13:20to get the angle right. From here, it is out towards the big

0:13:21 > 0:13:24international arena where we will see the showjumping tomorrow and it

0:13:25 > 0:13:28is a bit like showjumping when you come in here with the fence as you

0:13:29 > 0:13:34will see that they are a lot more chunky and solid. As you come back,

0:13:35 > 0:13:37three fences and what, two big corners and again, the angles, there

0:13:38 > 0:13:42are so important, but we jumped out of the water and as we do, uphill as

0:13:43 > 0:13:46we push on and there is that hill world you can make up time if you

0:13:47 > 0:13:55need to. As you make your way down to fence number 17 on course, a big

0:13:56 > 0:14:00log pile around and then we come to a nice strong gallop up to the mill.

0:14:01 > 0:14:05This takes you up to 21 and 22 then as strong hell up. Let's take

0:14:06 > 0:14:10another look at the second water complex, in over the law, over the

0:14:11 > 0:14:18water and the distance you see there is narrower, some bounce as we come

0:14:19 > 0:14:24out over that. That takes us up hill, back through the trees as we

0:14:25 > 0:14:28come around over 26 and 27, bit of a time wasting fence, we come around

0:14:29 > 0:14:34and that is the finish line, it really is a long course. As we can

0:14:35 > 0:14:41see on screen, but to get underway is the first of team Great Britain,

0:14:42 > 0:14:48Oliver Townend, he has to tackle this track in an optimum time of ten

0:14:49 > 0:14:52minutes. He is a very fast rider, he will be looking to get out in the

0:14:53 > 0:14:56strong with because if you start to lose time in that first minute, you

0:14:57 > 0:15:00will not have a chance to make it back. It is important that you set

0:15:01 > 0:15:07out in the spirit of which you mean to carry on. He had a good dressage.

0:15:08 > 0:15:1226 after that first phase. He thought that was a tough course. I

0:15:13 > 0:15:17think all the riders thought it was tough. There were plenty of places

0:15:18 > 0:15:23to have problems. It is a real concentrating chorus and as he jumps

0:15:24 > 0:15:30this big table, it comes to the first big question on the course. I

0:15:31 > 0:15:36think he is the first of the Pathfinders really. Riders from all

0:15:37 > 0:15:41nations will be watching this. You have a narrow fans, the horse does

0:15:42 > 0:15:44not quite log on and he has a problem at that second element. This

0:15:45 > 0:15:51may be important for the British team. It will not do a huge amount

0:15:52 > 0:16:00for the confidence of the team. They were banking on all of putting in a

0:16:01 > 0:16:08good steady and stay frowned. -- Oliver Townend. You can see the

0:16:09 > 0:16:12horse did not quite read the fence. It was almost like recount in him

0:16:13 > 0:16:20towards the corner of an indoor school. He could not see his way

0:16:21 > 0:16:24through. He also checked his watch. I am sure that will be on the back

0:16:25 > 0:16:41of his mind as he moves it up a little bit. This German ranks in the

0:16:42 > 0:16:54top ten. Sets on 40 penalties, for the due risk diesels on the chorus.

0:16:55 > 0:17:02Oliver is very competitive. Oliver did well to keep him inside. We can

0:17:03 > 0:17:12see the first of the representatives from team France coming forward

0:17:13 > 0:17:26Sidney Dufresne is the first to go for France. This is his first team

0:17:27 > 0:17:38appearance. There are not many stallions competing in the sport. As

0:17:39 > 0:17:53he comes around towards the fence, it is the second on the course. He

0:17:54 > 0:17:58has come over several times. That third fence, it is big, but not too

0:17:59 > 0:18:07testing. You're looking to waste as little time as possible, to keep up

0:18:08 > 0:18:17a fast rhythm. This next line is the one that all the athletes have been

0:18:18 > 0:18:25talking about. Just another one, the horse jumped very big over the

0:18:26 > 0:18:31middle part. Took his eyes from that. Pass the red flag. This is the

0:18:32 > 0:18:43second Europeans for Julia Krajewski. This is the fence that

0:18:44 > 0:18:52Oliver Townend had the problem Matt. She has run out past the fence. It

0:18:53 > 0:18:56is always much harder jumping and arrowhead on top of the mound. The

0:18:57 > 0:19:05worst can see the ground and they are reluctant to take off over the

0:19:06 > 0:19:15narrow fans. At this stage, ideally where should the clock the? You know

0:19:16 > 0:19:26every 70 metres, you should be at a certain point. He was down on the

0:19:27 > 0:19:39clock at that first... At that last water crossing. It is difficult to

0:19:40 > 0:19:43make up time. You're looking to be efficient and steady at the last

0:19:44 > 0:19:50possible moment before these fences, so that you waste as little time as

0:19:51 > 0:19:56possible. Every stride you add in front of a fence is a second on the

0:19:57 > 0:20:02clock. Just under three minutes to get home. You can try and save half

0:20:03 > 0:20:12a second away from each fence. That is the kind of thing that adds up.

0:20:13 > 0:20:24That was a really nice galloping rhythm. This is a difficult fence, a

0:20:25 > 0:20:30big brush Corder, the horses cannot see that the ground pulls away. They

0:20:31 > 0:20:45are jumping into the unknown. Oliver carries on driving for home.

0:20:46 > 0:21:00This is Pietro Roman. Oliver Townend, that familiar low position.

0:21:01 > 0:21:06As he approaches. He has got most of the difficult fences behind him. The

0:21:07 > 0:21:12third last fence is the last place you would think would be a danger to

0:21:13 > 0:21:23the jumping school. Otherwise, trying to save every second he can.

0:21:24 > 0:21:29You can see him working hard. Back to France and this bounce, nicely

0:21:30 > 0:21:39out of the water. When you look at the years of the horse, it is almost

0:21:40 > 0:21:48like radar is. He has got 30 seconds to get home. He does well to keep

0:21:49 > 0:21:55the Horus on that to stride line as he drives towards the penultimate

0:21:56 > 0:21:59fence. He is going to be a little bit over the time. Only about three

0:22:00 > 0:22:17seconds behind the clock, he did well to stay on track. Not far over

0:22:18 > 0:22:21at all. He will finish on 85 after Cross country. That news will filter

0:22:22 > 0:22:24back to the other athletes knowing that he had to the other athletes

0:22:25 > 0:22:30knowing that he had two stops and still came in very close. Pietro

0:22:31 > 0:22:44Roman. The chance to get the horses feet wet early. You can see in the

0:22:45 > 0:22:51start box, the competitor from Germany, he is an individual. We

0:22:52 > 0:23:04have other athletes who are just here as an individual.

0:23:05 > 0:23:16Julia Krajewski just drives for home. She has still got those 20

0:23:17 > 0:23:26penalties on the scoreboard. Back through the trees. As she comes up

0:23:27 > 0:23:33here, after this one, we come to two fences on track at 26 and 27. When

0:23:34 > 0:23:37we walked the course, we described those as something that you would

0:23:38 > 0:23:43waste a little bit of time, almost to make up for the time allowed. At

0:23:44 > 0:23:48every level you have got a set speed. On a flat site like this, it

0:23:49 > 0:23:56means it is easier to make that time as a rider. The course designer has

0:23:57 > 0:24:05put in several almost speed bumps like that fence which takes speed

0:24:06 > 0:24:11down. It forces you to steady as you turn into that first fence. That

0:24:12 > 0:24:18string is not just to keep the public off, it is also to guide the

0:24:19 > 0:24:24riders. Over the last difficult fence on the course, she has got 15

0:24:25 > 0:24:29or ten seconds to get home as she heads to the penultimate fence. She

0:24:30 > 0:24:32is not going to be in the time. She is now just really trying to keep

0:24:33 > 0:24:40the horse in that long gallop. You do not want to take a risk at the

0:24:41 > 0:24:44last fence, she does add an extra strike, an extra second over the

0:24:45 > 0:24:54time as the clock stops. That gives her score -- her score of 59.9. We

0:24:55 > 0:25:08turn our attention to Pietro Roman. The Italian. Still just sitting on

0:25:09 > 0:25:10that dressage score. And using this, it is important to keep that my

0:25:11 > 0:25:16steady rhythm as we come around towards this. These fences are

0:25:17 > 0:25:22fitted with clips which means if you hit the fence hard, they collapse.

0:25:23 > 0:25:33That is to save a fall but you do pick up 11 penalties of that is the

0:25:34 > 0:25:37case. We come back to France once again, Sidney Dufresne. He loves

0:25:38 > 0:25:45this horse. The horse does not look like he has the biggest gallop in

0:25:46 > 0:25:51the world. The fastest horses have a flat, almost a daisy cutting action.

0:25:52 > 0:25:56The legs propel the Horus, but not in an upwards direction which can be

0:25:57 > 0:26:04more beneficial. Talk as to how it went for you? He is fairly new to

0:26:05 > 0:26:09this level. He is a very good horse for the future, but I think that was

0:26:10 > 0:26:13why was sent first to give a true feel for the and hopefully the

0:26:14 > 0:26:17information I bring back will be useful for the others. It does help

0:26:18 > 0:26:23to be the Pathfinder and those arrowheads, that was the second

0:26:24 > 0:26:27problem. He was a little overawed by the crowd when he came out and all

0:26:28 > 0:26:32of a sudden that was a big audience in front of you. There are no two

0:26:33 > 0:26:37ways around it, it is very disappointing, but at the same time,

0:26:38 > 0:26:42it will be a good one. You wrote quickly, how did the rest of the

0:26:43 > 0:26:47course right for you? Fine. I felt it was my job, once I made a mess of

0:26:48 > 0:26:51things and it was obvious that we were not competitive any more, I

0:26:52 > 0:26:56thought, let's just keep as level as we can and see how close we get to

0:26:57 > 0:27:01the time and as I have shown, it will be easily achievable on a

0:27:02 > 0:27:05top-class horse. Every second year over the time it picks up a time

0:27:06 > 0:27:10penalty. You can see him driving for home. It is hard to change your

0:27:11 > 0:27:14speed partway around the course, it is important to start in that quick

0:27:15 > 0:27:19with them. Anyone who has run a marathon, knows that you cannot

0:27:20 > 0:27:28speed up and slow down. He is a little bit over that time. One

0:27:29 > 0:27:32minute 18 over and he will finish on 112.7 penalties. So much talent

0:27:33 > 0:27:48still to feature and it looks like we are off to Switzerland this is

0:27:49 > 0:27:56Felix Vogg from Switzerland. This is the second batch of team riders.

0:27:57 > 0:28:06Some teams only have three riders. It is now towards the end of the

0:28:07 > 0:28:11course. One minute from home. Just starting to see the arms and the

0:28:12 > 0:28:16hands going. He is doing a good job, he is not throwing the reins, he is

0:28:17 > 0:28:20trying to encourage the movement of the head of the Horus as he goes to

0:28:21 > 0:28:23steady and re-support the balance of the horse through shortening the

0:28:24 > 0:28:33reins and it comes down to this straightforward combination. That is

0:28:34 > 0:28:3526 and 27. Nothing too technical, that affects the time more than

0:28:36 > 0:28:41anything else. You can see him working away, but the hands moving

0:28:42 > 0:28:48without throwing the reins of the Horus. Encouraging him just a length

0:28:49 > 0:28:52in his stride. This is the last difficult combination of the course.

0:28:53 > 0:29:01He looks for the narrow corridor between these two offset brushes.

0:29:02 > 0:29:05You have not slow down. That is the last big test on course, a couple of

0:29:06 > 0:29:11obstacles left. They come round to the picnic table. You're always

0:29:12 > 0:29:15aware at this stage in the course that you're looking to save every

0:29:16 > 0:29:19second you can without throwing away a good round by taking an

0:29:20 > 0:29:23unnecessary risk and having a horse walloped the last fence. You can see

0:29:24 > 0:29:29him checking as he comes around the corridor, jumps the last. We can see

0:29:30 > 0:29:33a happy man coming through the finish line, that is Pietro Roman

0:29:34 > 0:29:43from Italy who has finished on 41. Nothing over the time here today. He

0:29:44 > 0:29:48finishes on 41. Now, making this turn back. We are back with Felix

0:29:49 > 0:29:55Vogg. He is taking the longer road despite the directorate riding so

0:29:56 > 0:30:00well here. Jumping that Mark Shill jump. Up over another showjumper and

0:30:01 > 0:30:13then another line. Great Britain, Ros Canter has had a

0:30:14 > 0:30:17fantastic couple of days. Allstar B ranking 15th individually on a score

0:30:18 > 0:30:22of 38.6 after the dressage. What a great weekend she's had so far.

0:30:23 > 0:30:27She's a really tidy rider, technically very correct. In the

0:30:28 > 0:30:33dressage she rode a beautiful test, scoring every single point she

0:30:34 > 0:30:39could. Josefa Sommer, another individual rider, this for Germany.

0:30:40 > 0:30:43We'll see what route she takes through fear. As you are standing

0:30:44 > 0:30:48face on, it's such a tough angle. It is, and the horse has to understand

0:30:49 > 0:30:53there is space to do a slight kick and bend. Checking the clock, she

0:30:54 > 0:30:59will be over the time. But this is good enough to potentially put her

0:31:00 > 0:31:04in top spot if she can just not waste any time down to the final

0:31:05 > 0:31:08fence. Her hands are sympathetic, not throwing the reins with the

0:31:09 > 0:31:15horse, but going with the horse's rhythm. Again taking a slightly

0:31:16 > 0:31:22conservative approach and over the final fence. She's about 17 seconds

0:31:23 > 0:31:30over, but she is happy. It really is a team effort. She finishes on 47.8.

0:31:31 > 0:31:33Ros Canter, once again, what a great year she has had. The best of the

0:31:34 > 0:31:40Brits at Badminton this year. Also her best dressage score ever as part

0:31:41 > 0:31:46of the team here in Strzegom for the Europeans. She's a small girl so

0:31:47 > 0:31:52steady in the horse by taking her body back and shaking the rain

0:31:53 > 0:32:02slightly. Reading the fence perfectly. A nice little strides to

0:32:03 > 0:32:09jump cleanly. Felix Vogg, we get to see him again. Straight to that, but

0:32:10 > 0:32:17met the fence to close and caught with his knee. Almost at the front

0:32:18 > 0:32:21and back up, but not quite. This lady has been making the news all

0:32:22 > 0:32:32weekend. Going into Germany and betting ahoy. She is on Samourai du

0:32:33 > 0:32:37Thot, got a dressage score that is almost unheard of. In a gold medal

0:32:38 > 0:32:42position in the individual. This is the one they all watching. It will

0:32:43 > 0:32:45be interesting to see Bettina Hoy's tactics. If you can get clear

0:32:46 > 0:32:51quickly then she will keep a big margin between her and the rest of

0:32:52 > 0:32:55the individuals going into the final phase. She might opt to know that

0:32:56 > 0:32:58she has such a big buffer that she can take a slightly more

0:32:59 > 0:33:03conservative approach, possibly take the Long route and still maintain

0:33:04 > 0:33:06the lead. We had a chat with her yesterday and she said it's a course

0:33:07 > 0:33:13you have to ride really accurately and keep online. If you do that, you

0:33:14 > 0:33:19shouldn't have too many issues. The first real challenge. This is where

0:33:20 > 0:33:21the horses are at their strongest. They are keen, the adrenaline

0:33:22 > 0:33:31pouring through them, and they are fresh. She clambers over that. Not

0:33:32 > 0:33:35surprising, that's where you get the knock on effect. Interestingly we

0:33:36 > 0:33:41see a horse normally ducked out past the fence, this horse read it,

0:33:42 > 0:33:44understood it, and then backed off. Jumped it, but landed with very

0:33:45 > 0:33:52little momentum and couldn't make the strides distance out over the

0:33:53 > 0:33:56last element. 20 penalties there. It goes to show that dressage is such a

0:33:57 > 0:33:59small part, just one third of this competition over the weekend. It's

0:34:00 > 0:34:03easy to get hung up on the leaderboard and where everybody is

0:34:04 > 0:34:08lying, but you know the pack will be shuffled after dressage by what

0:34:09 > 0:34:14happens on cross-country. The key thing, she has probably lost her

0:34:15 > 0:34:24chance of an individual can title, but she's thinking of the team. That

0:34:25 > 0:34:29was sticky, the horse backing off and almost stopping. Back to Great

0:34:30 > 0:34:34Britain and Ros Canter. This horse has been going from strength to

0:34:35 > 0:34:38strength this year. This is where she comes at the steep slope to one

0:34:39 > 0:34:45of the most challenging questions on the course. You can see the

0:34:46 > 0:34:51reminder, held his line perfect, no deviation, and she's doing a great

0:34:52 > 0:34:53job to be quick away from the fences. Take the extra second or

0:34:54 > 0:35:11half second. Carlile ranking sixth at the moment.

0:35:12 > 0:35:17He's one of the top riders to watch here. This rider has had a fantastic

0:35:18 > 0:35:24year, she really has. The top Brit at Badminton, she knows she's on the

0:35:25 > 0:35:28straight now. Just a few fences left ago. Really just one big technical

0:35:29 > 0:35:35question left to answer on this track. 5700 metres in length. And

0:35:36 > 0:35:41she has about one minute left to get home. Here we see Bettina Hoy on the

0:35:42 > 0:35:48ground. She's had a fall. She looks OK. With the medics. We might be

0:35:49 > 0:35:54able to see a replay of exactly what happened. We see her come down to

0:35:55 > 0:35:57the table. The horse is backing off already, does back off and takes off

0:35:58 > 0:36:04too far away from the fence and rather lands on it. No way he can

0:36:05 > 0:36:08stand up. Hugely disappointing for Bettina Hoy, scuppering her chances.

0:36:09 > 0:36:15The last real challenge on the course, steadying, turning and

0:36:16 > 0:36:23looking for the corridor. Good girl. Through 28. Did well to turn through

0:36:24 > 0:36:29the last element. She has 15 seconds to get home. Two outfits left. Opens

0:36:30 > 0:36:38up the Kanter after 29. Looks at her watch as she lands. She needs to be

0:36:39 > 0:36:47brave at the last fence. Clears the last and pushing. She

0:36:48 > 0:36:51finishes four seconds over. 40.2, and that means she's the best so far

0:36:52 > 0:36:58here. She will be over the moon with that, just a touch over. We come

0:36:59 > 0:37:02back to join Thomas Carlile. Slight stutter for the first one and the

0:37:03 > 0:37:06horse was drifting out of the right shoulder the whole way there.

0:37:07 > 0:37:12Another medal contender, both individually and in terms of the

0:37:13 > 0:37:16team. Surprising, not having any of that. Actually arrived at the triple

0:37:17 > 0:37:25brush on the mound at a good spot. Not very far from it, but the horse

0:37:26 > 0:37:30wanted nothing to do with it. Really frustrating, sits on the 40. This is

0:37:31 > 0:37:36shaping up to be a good one today. This horse has an unusual job for

0:37:37 > 0:37:41the event horse. The weather comes right up. It's how a classical

0:37:42 > 0:37:46showjumper jumps. He gives the horse so much air. They cross-country

0:37:47 > 0:37:49horse normally goes more with their head up, landing galloping and

0:37:50 > 0:37:54holding the shape of the gallop in the air, more than you would expect

0:37:55 > 0:37:59a classical showjumper to do. They cross-country horse jumps across the

0:38:00 > 0:38:03fence? Think of what a National Hunt racehorse does. They can jump and

0:38:04 > 0:38:09plans travelling at the same speed as if there was no fence. But in

0:38:10 > 0:38:16showjumping they slightly distort it. Another one! The third refusal

0:38:17 > 0:38:21we have seen on track. That has shaken things up a little bit. This

0:38:22 > 0:38:26is the individual standings at this stage, Ros Canter for Great Britain

0:38:27 > 0:38:46with Allstar B sitting proudly at the top.

0:38:47 > 0:38:54A clear round, Ros Canter, and a fast one too. Your first major event

0:38:55 > 0:38:57for the British team. It feels amazing and I owe so much of it to

0:38:58 > 0:39:03the horse because he is the be's knees of jumpers. When you get there

0:39:04 > 0:39:09it's blind for the horses and they don't understand where they are

0:39:10 > 0:39:13going. It's very exciting and I'm very proud of him. He seems to be

0:39:14 > 0:39:18rising to the big occasion, and so do use. I don't think I would sit

0:39:19 > 0:39:24another like him in terms of power and scope and the way he gallops.

0:39:25 > 0:39:30He's a big, strong horse and I wasted time at the beginning today

0:39:31 > 0:39:33because I had to slow up earlier at fence four than I wanted to and

0:39:34 > 0:39:37things like that. But he has the gallop to make up for it. Hopefully

0:39:38 > 0:39:41he can gain inexperience and I can keep getting better and better.

0:39:42 > 0:39:54Interesting shot. -- gaining experience. Underway with Piggy

0:39:55 > 0:40:00French riding for Great Britain. Riding as an individual. Scored 46.2

0:40:01 > 0:40:05in the dressage, ranking 37. But she has been a great ambassador for

0:40:06 > 0:40:13eventing over the years. A wonderful writer and wonderful person. The

0:40:14 > 0:40:18Polish Rider started out with a very quick rhythm. So much of the Gallup

0:40:19 > 0:40:25is dictated by the amount of thoroughbred a horse has in its

0:40:26 > 0:40:30brooding. It will travel its low forward way is that of having the

0:40:31 > 0:40:32big circular action in its legs, which is less efficient for

0:40:33 > 0:40:38galloping but better for showjumping. You don't want too much

0:40:39 > 0:40:45of one extreme or the other in cross-country. That's why these

0:40:46 > 0:40:52horses come in all shapes and sizes. Piggy French going the longer route.

0:40:53 > 0:40:58That would have been her own choice. She will have seen earlier

0:40:59 > 0:41:01combinations aren't seen their problems. Perhaps the horse going in

0:41:02 > 0:41:07dressage will have had an impact. The heat has been a factor. Yes, but

0:41:08 > 0:41:11it's perfect conditions today. This is a young horse, only moved up to

0:41:12 > 0:41:16this level earlier in the year when he went to Tattersall's in Ireland.

0:41:17 > 0:41:24Should be mindful of that with some of the options. A horse she knows

0:41:25 > 0:41:32very well, has had the horse since she was six years old. Is now ten.

0:41:33 > 0:41:36Piggy French is a real competitor, fast rider in cross-country. Had a

0:41:37 > 0:41:44break from the sport when she and her partner Tom March at their son,

0:41:45 > 0:41:51Max. Tom is often seen with a baby strapped to his back supporting

0:41:52 > 0:41:56Piggy French at her events. That was nice, a clear line. Didn't waste

0:41:57 > 0:42:06time. No confusion about where the horse was going. Not far left ago,

0:42:07 > 0:42:16over the picnic table at 29. Coming towards the final fence. Started in

0:42:17 > 0:42:2725th. And just over. 0.4 penalty added on. That will move him up the

0:42:28 > 0:42:31leaderboard, finishing on 43.8. At the moment power. This act going --

0:42:32 > 0:42:48at the moment, travels just over two and a half minutes to

0:42:49 > 0:43:22get home. we come to Great Britain and a lady

0:43:23 > 0:43:26who has represented the country for so many years. Tina Cook and Billy

0:43:27 > 0:43:32The Red, sitting 12th after the dressage score. Luciana Love Italy,

0:43:33 > 0:43:54just parting company. -- of Italy coming into the square table that

0:43:55 > 0:44:01sets you up on a left-handed curve for this very steep angle. The force

0:44:02 > 0:44:07has to go through but hesitates. Momentum carried the horse into the

0:44:08 > 0:44:12fence sideways. That was enough. Piggy French coming up to the picnic

0:44:13 > 0:44:27table. Driving towards home. Second last from home. Riding sensibly. We

0:44:28 > 0:44:32will have a look at the time as she crosses the finishing line. Penalty

0:44:33 > 0:44:37starting to add up on track. Having won refusal out on course, that will

0:44:38 > 0:44:43give her 20 penalties. The score comes up to 83.4 for Piggy French.

0:44:44 > 0:44:50Her run out was at the last water complex.

0:44:51 > 0:44:58This is another one everyone has been talking about. One who has so

0:44:59 > 0:45:05much experience, Ingrid Klimke of Germany with Horseware Hale Bob.

0:45:06 > 0:45:22Sitting on a dressage score of 30.3. Has been a part of the European

0:45:23 > 0:45:30Championships on so many occasions. Being part of Olympic teams as well.

0:45:31 > 0:45:41The horse is known as Bobby in the stable. 11 years old. This horse

0:45:42 > 0:45:47arrived with her back in 2009. Really corrected fantastically well

0:45:48 > 0:45:54through there. Interesting that the Germans can't afford to have any

0:45:55 > 0:45:58more jumping faults. Ingrid is in the enviable position of being able

0:45:59 > 0:46:01to go for both team and individual titles. She has a good enough

0:46:02 > 0:46:07dressage. She was prepared to take that risk. We know the time is

0:46:08 > 0:46:10achievable. So you can probably afford to take one long route and

0:46:11 > 0:46:19still get inside the time if you are in a fast horse. Tina Cook on a

0:46:20 > 0:46:26dressage score of 38.2, nothing to add at the moment. Ranked 12 as she

0:46:27 > 0:46:32joins us today. Such and experienced competitor. She is known as a huge

0:46:33 > 0:46:36deliverer on the world stage. She can get the best performances out.

0:46:37 > 0:46:40You saw their how she stayed straight as an arrow through that

0:46:41 > 0:46:46combination. Used to riding thoroughbred horses. This horse just

0:46:47 > 0:46:53needs to keep up the pace to make sure she can get home within that

0:46:54 > 0:46:56optimal time of ten minutes. The combination finished tenth at

0:46:57 > 0:47:01Badminton this year. In such great form. It is a ten-year-old. Tina

0:47:02 > 0:47:11ranking 26 in the world. Coming into this international arena. You saw

0:47:12 > 0:47:18the title in taken, it's quicker to be able to take the pace away,

0:47:19 > 0:47:23turned, and then land and take the pace away rather than taking a wider

0:47:24 > 0:47:27line. At the halfway stage, I think she is fine for time. You would aim

0:47:28 > 0:47:32to coming to the water on five minutes, and look where she is.

0:47:33 > 0:47:42She's on the time. We know where you should be as riders. Good job. The

0:47:43 > 0:47:50speed at this level is 570 metres per minute. You look around you

0:47:51 > 0:47:53every time you we'll says 570. You wear a stopwatch and when it beats

0:47:54 > 0:48:01on the minute marker, you know you are on track. Ingrid Klimke looking

0:48:02 > 0:48:06at her watch as she lands. She knows that if she can stay clear and on

0:48:07 > 0:48:09her dressage score, the leader will change once again and she will go up

0:48:10 > 0:48:14to the gold medal position. Still another full day to come. This is

0:48:15 > 0:48:19only the second phase of the three phases. We saw the dressage, we have

0:48:20 > 0:48:26seen the cross-country, and we will see the showjumping tomorrow. Good

0:48:27 > 0:48:29line through there. The terrain helps you, channelling you along,

0:48:30 > 0:48:33acting as a velodrome. The height of the ground on the right stops you

0:48:34 > 0:48:35slipping. It's like riding a bike with stabilisers, it keeps you on

0:48:36 > 0:48:40the line you want to be on. She comes round to the water. If you

0:48:41 > 0:48:46remember her riding at Rio, she was clear up to the water and had a run

0:48:47 > 0:48:50out there. Ingrid was second after the dressage. Betting on boy is the

0:48:51 > 0:49:02dressage leader, but didn't finish the course. And back betting --

0:49:03 > 0:49:10Bettina Hoy. The horse was straight on the line. Another man

0:49:11 > 0:49:15representing his country at the highest level. Part of the team that

0:49:16 > 0:49:23represents Sweden, Svennerstal. Tina Cook, still on the dressage score,

0:49:24 > 0:49:26making her way round to the water. We talk about rhythm being

0:49:27 > 0:49:31important, but as important as that is being able to break in change

0:49:32 > 0:49:36from the fast gallop to a short canter in a short space of time. At

0:49:37 > 0:49:39this fence you want to turn late, in other words doing a big quarter

0:49:40 > 0:49:44circle instead of a straight line because then you have a chance of...

0:49:45 > 0:49:49Tina did a great job and is very fast away from there. Ingrid Klimke

0:49:50 > 0:49:55coming back to the water having been in that indoor arena. Just a

0:49:56 > 0:49:59slightly open stride, got a bit close to the middle section but was

0:50:00 > 0:50:04able to quieten the horse's strides down and readjust the final element.

0:50:05 > 0:50:08That's where you've got the combination of the horse's strides

0:50:09 > 0:50:15length and the line you take to dictate at what point you arrive at

0:50:16 > 0:50:17the fence in the horse's stride. Some fantastic athletes competing at

0:50:18 > 0:50:24the European Championships. This is one I always enjoy watching. You can

0:50:25 > 0:50:28see she has lots of fans out there. When you ride around, can you hear

0:50:29 > 0:50:33the cheering? You probably can but you are so focused on exactly what's

0:50:34 > 0:50:39going on that you manage to disassociate the horses do the same

0:50:40 > 0:50:43as well. The more experienced horses are oblivious to what's going on and

0:50:44 > 0:50:48they concentrate on the fence. This is getting exciting. We know if she

0:50:49 > 0:50:53can stay on her dressage score of 38.2, we have a long way to go, but

0:50:54 > 0:50:58at this stage she would be up to gold. She has a watch on each wrist,

0:50:59 > 0:51:01not that that would happen at a normal event, but at the

0:51:02 > 0:51:11championships you have a back-up, showing how important it is. Clears

0:51:12 > 0:51:1426, coming downhill to 27. These fences are not really technical,

0:51:15 > 0:51:21just affecting the optimum time. She has just under a minute to get home.

0:51:22 > 0:51:2538.2 is still the score she sits on. The horse still looks like he's got

0:51:26 > 0:51:30plenty of running. Not tiring. Easy to forget this is almost six

0:51:31 > 0:51:36kilometres long, the course. The speed is fast and also the change in

0:51:37 > 0:51:39speed makes it tiring for the horse. Does a good job there, slightly

0:51:40 > 0:51:44manhandling him through the last combination. That's the last

0:51:45 > 0:51:48difficult fence behind us. Now her main concern is the clock. 25

0:51:49 > 0:51:59seconds to go. She will be fine if she comes down to the table at 29.

0:52:00 > 0:52:03Looking at a watch, she can afford to take time. She will be inside the

0:52:04 > 0:52:12time so she can bring it home. Looking at the time, 9.55, inside,

0:52:13 > 0:52:15staying on her dressage score. She goes up to a gold medal position

0:52:16 > 0:52:23individually and puts Great Britain into such a strong place. Evra

0:52:24 > 0:52:33having a fall at the downhill log. This is an unforgiving fence. If you

0:52:34 > 0:52:37get into deep... It takes longer for the horse to get their feedback on

0:52:38 > 0:52:43the ground and write themselves. But the important thing is, France out

0:52:44 > 0:52:49of the team competition. Two French competitors not competing with

0:52:50 > 0:52:52Thomas Carlile and now Fer out. If you end up with less than three team

0:52:53 > 0:52:58members completing the course then it's game over for your team. Big

0:52:59 > 0:53:01disappointment in that camp. France have never won the team title at the

0:53:02 > 0:53:05European Championships, which is amazing, the reigning Olympic

0:53:06 > 0:53:10champions, but never winning the team title. You would say they are

0:53:11 > 0:53:15strong contenders, but Germany are the favourites, but they are now

0:53:16 > 0:53:23out. The British based Swedish rider now, based in Wiltshire. Tenth in

0:53:24 > 0:53:28the individual Europeans in 2013. He will celebrate his 27th birthday

0:53:29 > 0:53:39next week. He would love a good run round here today. He sits on 44.4 at

0:53:40 > 0:53:48this stage. Two minutes in. A stutter, but does well to stay on

0:53:49 > 0:53:51the pitch. These horses are like mountain goats, a good cross-country

0:53:52 > 0:53:56course should be able to deal with things going wrong rather than

0:53:57 > 0:54:01always being on the perfect stride. It's a quick reflex you are looking

0:54:02 > 0:54:06for, and likeness on the floor. Choosing the slightly longer route.

0:54:07 > 0:54:16The optimum is the second brush on the hill. Has been to two Olympics,

0:54:17 > 0:54:21London and Rio. Has been placed at most of the big events around the

0:54:22 > 0:54:28world, placing at Badminton, has been on the nation cup team. He has

0:54:29 > 0:54:34his sights set on Tokyo. Tina, what a round, clear and in the time. Your

0:54:35 > 0:54:37reaction at the end said it all. O God. You will hear it's a difficult

0:54:38 > 0:54:44course, has been causing problems. The team needed, with Ollie's horse

0:54:45 > 0:54:49going green, a few mistakes, we needed a clear round. I have every

0:54:50 > 0:54:53belief in this horse. He's so careful, but he is so sharp. Could

0:54:54 > 0:55:00have spooked at a few things, like at Badminton going down the steps.

0:55:01 > 0:55:04And he gallops. I save him for going quick on these occasions and he

0:55:05 > 0:55:08surprised me. I was able to take a little poll over the last couple of

0:55:09 > 0:55:17fences. I'm thrilled, it means everything. Currently ranking fourth

0:55:18 > 0:55:26on the dressage score, the German. And this is a horse she knows really

0:55:27 > 0:55:32well. She was over the moon after the dressage with her horse. This is

0:55:33 > 0:55:40the kind of horse that will suit this course. Nippy, small, the

0:55:41 > 0:55:45little mare is very adjustable. Currently ranks 18th in the world,

0:55:46 > 0:55:53and this test has caused issues for a few. Locks on. She did well to get

0:55:54 > 0:55:58through that. You could see her drifting before the middle element.

0:55:59 > 0:56:03She held her in. Often when you have had the drift, by the time you get

0:56:04 > 0:56:08the last one they have had enough. But she actually straightened up, a

0:56:09 > 0:56:17good bit of riding. Ingrid just over two minutes to get home. 24 with the

0:56:18 > 0:56:20log in. This is one of the more straightforward fences on the

0:56:21 > 0:56:25course. It's a case of getting dead straight for that. She didn't give

0:56:26 > 0:56:34herself a difficult task by cutting the corner. Now she's looking to be

0:56:35 > 0:56:42at the next fence in about 8.3 five. She will be well up on the clock.

0:56:43 > 0:56:45Gemma Tattersall coming to this difficult angle, and she rides very

0:56:46 > 0:56:50strongly to keep the horse from falling out of the right shoulder.

0:56:51 > 0:56:55She means business. Gemma isn't the tallest girl in the world, but she

0:56:56 > 0:57:02has the heart of a lion. The perseverance of a terrier.

0:57:03 > 0:57:06Absolutely. Ingrid Klimke, this could make a change to the

0:57:07 > 0:57:12leaderboard as it stands. At this rate she will be inside the time.

0:57:13 > 0:57:16The slower part of the course to come as you have to take a complete

0:57:17 > 0:57:22right-handed circle over the next fence to the upright rails. Looking

0:57:23 > 0:57:30at her watch again as she came down there. This is where the stringing

0:57:31 > 0:57:35on the course is clever. It sends you around this house which you do

0:57:36 > 0:57:38not jump, but it means you have to waste a bit of time. This section of

0:57:39 > 0:57:45the course bringing down your average speed to make the optimum

0:57:46 > 0:57:49time more elusive. Still on 37.3. If she can stay on just the dressage

0:57:50 > 0:57:54score she will move up to the top and go into gold position. She does

0:57:55 > 0:58:00a good job with her body to stay upright with the body and lengthens

0:58:01 > 0:58:03the reins. If something goes wrong she's in a defensive position, a bit

0:58:04 > 0:58:08like putting your feet on the dashboard to stop you going through

0:58:09 > 0:58:13the windscreen. The last tricky combination behind her. It's now all

0:58:14 > 0:58:20about the clock. She has just under 30 seconds to get home. Crossing the

0:58:21 > 0:58:24picnic table at 29. She will be comfortably inside the time. This

0:58:25 > 0:58:35will change the leaderboard, currently with Bettina Hoy out. She

0:58:36 > 0:58:41will stay there. The big smile says it all. 30.3 will be her score. She

0:58:42 > 0:58:46moves up to the gold position at this stage. Tina Cook of Great

0:58:47 > 0:58:51Britain goes to second, and Ros Canter for Great Britain is in

0:58:52 > 0:58:55third. We turn our attention to Nicola Wilson, currently ranked

0:58:56 > 0:58:59number four in the world, seventh as she joins us today on a dressage

0:59:00 > 0:59:08score of 35.1. Bulana and Nicola Wilson for Great Britain. Schone

0:59:09 > 0:59:18style now. 20 seconds to get home. I think just over. -- Svennerstal. A

0:59:19 > 0:59:23look at his watch, he will be over the optimum time as he comes to the

0:59:24 > 0:59:28table. Fence 29 on course with one left ago. Over the optimum time now.

0:59:29 > 0:59:36A quarter of a penalty for every second here on in. It's having an

0:59:37 > 0:59:41effect on his score at the moment. Clears the final fence. Let's take a

0:59:42 > 0:59:46look. In the end its 4.8 on the time penalties and that makes a change to

0:59:47 > 0:59:52the dressage scores. The only penalties he has, though, moving to

0:59:53 > 1:00:0249.2. This horse finished second at the 4-star in luminal and. The thing

1:00:03 > 1:00:04that makes the fence four is so difficult, it's probably the

1:00:05 > 1:00:09toughest on the course but it comes so early. Bulana is another horse to

1:00:10 > 1:00:19stand-off that. You get a great field over The Open pitch brush.

1:00:20 > 1:00:26There was quite a bit of pressure. Seeing that there was so much

1:00:27 > 1:00:32trouble out there and there were discussions about going long or

1:00:33 > 1:00:38short. I wanted to go short but finally the trainer said it was

1:00:39 > 1:00:44better to take no risks. I did my job and I was easy in my time. He is

1:00:45 > 1:00:55a fast horse, he was bold and fool of himself. I had pure fun. It was a

1:00:56 > 1:01:07German one to three after the dressage. Do you feel the pressure

1:01:08 > 1:01:17is on? For now. We will cross our fingers and see what we can do. The

1:01:18 > 1:01:27German, he is sitting on a dressage score which could take him to a

1:01:28 > 1:01:33bronze medal position. He is cleared through 26 and 27 as he comes around

1:01:34 > 1:01:39and he has got about 40 seconds to get home. Coming up towards this

1:01:40 > 1:01:50final big test on the course. Final big question.

1:01:51 > 1:01:59He turned quite late and the only -- the horse only saw it at the last

1:02:00 > 1:02:03minute. The main thing is that he got the job done and that is what

1:02:04 > 1:02:13cross-country running is all about. He has to move on around. He is

1:02:14 > 1:02:19going to be just over the time, but, it is just 0.4 penalties per second.

1:02:20 > 1:02:28We have a look and he finishes eight seconds over. And with that score,

1:02:29 > 1:02:34today, he will move down into fourth place at the moment but there is a

1:02:35 > 1:02:39long way to go. Now Gemma, through the water, bounce and that is quite

1:02:40 > 1:02:45a short bounce in there. You need to get the counter back enough so

1:02:46 > 1:02:55you're not travelling in a forward flat trajectory. She is a lady rider

1:02:56 > 1:02:58who will be producing some great experience and great results for

1:02:59 > 1:03:04Great Britain for many years to come. She was the best Brady lied at

1:03:05 > 1:03:10Biden Manson, which is a title that they still issue. She is about four

1:03:11 > 1:03:15seconds down on the clock at the moment. As she comes back into this

1:03:16 > 1:03:18what, she wants to be on five minutes and I think that is very

1:03:19 > 1:03:24achievable as she comes through here. The mayor are taking a

1:03:25 > 1:03:29stronghold. It wastes time when you have a stronger worse, because you

1:03:30 > 1:03:40need to spend time taking the horseback. Does a good job through

1:03:41 > 1:03:43there. She got it back to the right speed, if you're travelling at the

1:03:44 > 1:03:50right speed it makes it easier. When you get a horseback, you have to get

1:03:51 > 1:03:55its body bag and its brain back, it is like taking what off the boil

1:03:56 > 1:04:02onto the simmer. The horse can then digests what is mentally in front of

1:04:03 > 1:04:06them. The brain isn't racing and it doesn't become adults, they come

1:04:07 > 1:04:13problem solve and digests the mental challenge ahead of them. 35.1. It is

1:04:14 > 1:04:22still the score that were taken into a silver medal position after

1:04:23 > 1:04:26cross-country individually. If she just keeps up this nice rhythm all

1:04:27 > 1:04:37the time, it is a big horse that really covers the ground. Good girl,

1:04:38 > 1:04:40she got just inside. She can really try and ride out every inch of the

1:04:41 > 1:04:46stride, looking to go with the horse. She lost her pedal coming

1:04:47 > 1:04:51around the corner, she got it back, she has four seconds to get home and

1:04:52 > 1:04:58she uses her arms and elbows to keep the horse going forward. She clears

1:04:59 > 1:05:02the last and opens up the horse for the final time on the course and

1:05:03 > 1:05:13finishes in ten minutes, nine seconds. It goes into a silver

1:05:14 > 1:05:16position individually for Gemma Tattersall and 60 six for Great

1:05:17 > 1:05:33Britain. Now we rejoin Nicola Wilson. -- Quicklook V?. It is easy

1:05:34 > 1:05:49to tip up on a strong horse at an upright fence. Sarah Ennis. From

1:05:50 > 1:05:58Ireland. This area in Poland is the granite capital. You can see this

1:05:59 > 1:06:04very big pit in the horse's mouth, she has the reins and the lever.

1:06:05 > 1:06:09Nicola Wilson comes up this big hill and she is looking towards that

1:06:10 > 1:06:16corner, real soft brush on the top. You see the mayor lightly shaking

1:06:17 > 1:06:20her head but Nicola is doing a great job, trying to move away from the

1:06:21 > 1:06:27fences as quickly as possible. Doing a bit of a time check, she has one

1:06:28 > 1:06:33last sweeping circle in this field before she heads up to the latter

1:06:34 > 1:06:38part of the course. I think she has made up some time with this big

1:06:39 > 1:06:42counter. The course is short, for this level, ten minutes as the

1:06:43 > 1:06:48minimum length you can have it. You have not got the endurance factor.

1:06:49 > 1:06:55Super job. We know when she comes around towards this yellow jump, she

1:06:56 > 1:07:00needs to be sitting on about 8.3 five. She would be on track to

1:07:01 > 1:07:03arrive at the finish dead on ten minutes. Gemma, congratulations, you

1:07:04 > 1:07:09said that was no way you could go any faster, just a few penalty

1:07:10 > 1:07:17points for you. I am over the moon. My horse dug deep and tried so hard

1:07:18 > 1:07:22that I literally not go any faster. She just got a bit tired at the end

1:07:23 > 1:07:27and we just lost a few seconds there, but she was just brilliant.

1:07:28 > 1:07:32As sticky moment over the fourth offence which has caused problems

1:07:33 > 1:07:36all day. It is horrible. When you are riding, you can barely see a

1:07:37 > 1:07:40line through and she did not realise where she had to jump and I said

1:07:41 > 1:07:45that at the last second and she jumped in the flag and it shows how

1:07:46 > 1:07:53fantastic she is and how much she has learned an command. She is on

1:07:54 > 1:07:58track, on a perfect time and she is on the dressage score that would

1:07:59 > 1:08:03take her into a silver position at this stage. You can see her getting

1:08:04 > 1:08:11off the horses back allowing it to move and cover the ground. She has

1:08:12 > 1:08:15got 26 and 27 appear. I like but she is doing. She is urging the horse on

1:08:16 > 1:08:21and staying still with her upper body. This is the kind of place you

1:08:22 > 1:08:27could easily tip yourself up on later in the course. She will take

1:08:28 > 1:08:32her time. Now she can move on and you can see how quickly she moves

1:08:33 > 1:08:41from steadying down back into The Open pace. The next fences at a

1:08:42 > 1:08:44right-handed Angola but it is followed by a left-handed angle and

1:08:45 > 1:08:53she wanted in her left hand because that is a problem part of this

1:08:54 > 1:08:59fence. Her last tough fence. She looks at her watch, she has the

1:09:00 > 1:09:06picnic table at 29 and the granite wall and then that is it. She is

1:09:07 > 1:09:15probably about four seconds over the time. She is going to make. She has

1:09:16 > 1:09:21got to not take too much time. She pushes over. She is one second of.

1:09:22 > 1:09:28You cannot be too disappointed with that, especially taking the longer

1:09:29 > 1:09:34route earlier. She finishes in 35.5. She goes into a silver medal

1:09:35 > 1:09:39position at this stage. The great thing is we have four Brits in the

1:09:40 > 1:09:53top five. This is shaping up to be a good one and now we go to Germany,

1:09:54 > 1:10:01Michael Jung from Germany. He starts on dressage score of 32.8. Michael

1:10:02 > 1:10:07Jung is one of the legends of the sport. Michael Jung is the only

1:10:08 > 1:10:12rider in the history of the sport to hold all three titles, Championship

1:10:13 > 1:10:17titles at the same time, world, Olympics and Europeans. He is a

1:10:18 > 1:10:21double Olympic champion, both individually in London and in real

1:10:22 > 1:10:30and you would expect nothing less to from him. This ride has never been

1:10:31 > 1:10:34more important for Germany than today because we have Great Britain

1:10:35 > 1:10:39sitting in Gold medal position, we have Germany sitting in silver and

1:10:40 > 1:10:44we have Sweden in third, but it is getting very close at the top. This

1:10:45 > 1:10:49round matters so much to Germany. And of course Germany are accounting

1:10:50 > 1:10:54that score. Counting the score of Bettina Hoy at the moment. Michael

1:10:55 > 1:10:59Jung is the last to go in the team and he will be the one who will be

1:11:00 > 1:11:04wanting to bring in a good score. I saw a little tap to say, let's pay

1:11:05 > 1:11:10attention and keep that rhythm as we move up. The conditions have

1:11:11 > 1:11:14changed, it is raining, it will be interesting to see if it becomes

1:11:15 > 1:11:19slippery. It will not make it muddy, it is a small amount of rain, but

1:11:20 > 1:11:26even wet grass can cause the horses to slip a little bit. But we have

1:11:27 > 1:11:30seen the slippy conditions all day. Michael Jung rides this horse at a

1:11:31 > 1:11:34very fast rhythm, she has not got a long stride and he always looks a

1:11:35 > 1:11:39little bit more frantic on this worse than his other runs and it is

1:11:40 > 1:11:48partly to try and keep up that absolute top speed. He has won all

1:11:49 > 1:11:54over the world. And he is making this look easy today. He always

1:11:55 > 1:11:59does. First he has a very good eye but secondly with his body position,

1:12:00 > 1:12:04he is lower in the saddle, he has his feet forward, he does not ride

1:12:05 > 1:12:08too long. He stays reasonably low which gives him a low centre of

1:12:09 > 1:12:13gravity and he is very well balanced, if anything goes wrong,

1:12:14 > 1:12:19there is plenty of room for manoeuvre and a safe defensive

1:12:20 > 1:12:24position. So close to absolute perfection, North point for the time

1:12:25 > 1:12:27floor. Oh my goodness, she tried so hard and when I jumped, the first

1:12:28 > 1:12:34part of the fence, I knew the three was not there. She is so honest and

1:12:35 > 1:12:39good on her line and I thought set up, hands down and before then it

1:12:40 > 1:12:43was much more comfortable than having to push forward the three.

1:12:44 > 1:12:48Then I was going to be in trouble for the last fence. I had to rely on

1:12:49 > 1:12:56her jumping ability and her honesty and sitting on the right place and

1:12:57 > 1:13:00saying, we can do it. So proud her. We can see some German flags flying

1:13:01 > 1:13:05in the background, lots of support for him today. And he comes down

1:13:06 > 1:13:12here towards this big water complex. Approaching it a little bit faster,

1:13:13 > 1:13:17on the inside line. And just gets inside. That was really taking quite

1:13:18 > 1:13:31a risk coming on that line but he has wasted no time. Vittoria

1:13:32 > 1:13:38Panizzon joins us from Italy. And now we come back to this man who has

1:13:39 > 1:13:41been the talk of the town after all those titles, Michael Jung. At the

1:13:42 > 1:13:46moment, he still has nothing to add to the score and this time he is

1:13:47 > 1:13:51flying, he is up on the optimum time, going as fast early on, with

1:13:52 > 1:13:59that take the pressure off. Is it a naturally fast combination? She has

1:14:00 > 1:14:04got quite a short stride. It partly takes the pressure off but she needs

1:14:05 > 1:14:07to be fast, because she... The only two ways you go faster is to

1:14:08 > 1:14:11increase the stride length or to have a faster turnover stride, she

1:14:12 > 1:14:18does not have a long stride and that is why the rhythm is so much faster.

1:14:19 > 1:14:27And the time said that every fence, he is trying to shave time off at

1:14:28 > 1:14:30every fence. If with some other horses you see them speeding up and

1:14:31 > 1:14:36slowing down but he keeps that nice rhythm, that nice tempo. He can do

1:14:37 > 1:14:48that, because she is nippy, like a cat. She can shorten very easily.

1:14:49 > 1:14:54Running towards this mill. They have that little covering over the top.

1:14:55 > 1:14:58That one is sitting at 19, then there is this area and you come to

1:14:59 > 1:15:03the hills. This is where he needs to slightly change that style from

1:15:04 > 1:15:14being very fast just giving them time, so she can pop over on top of

1:15:15 > 1:15:18the second mount. He takes his time. Straight back into the galloping

1:15:19 > 1:15:25position. This would change the medal placings, putting him in

1:15:26 > 1:15:30silver if he can keep going. This means the horse has the freedom of

1:15:31 > 1:15:35the head and neck -- and -- Nowak, they can judge distance to the fence

1:15:36 > 1:15:41without the rider interfering. If anything goes wrong, then neck and

1:15:42 > 1:15:49shoulder acts like shock absorber. Sarah Ennis for Ireland. Sitting on

1:15:50 > 1:15:55that score of 38.6. She started today ranked 14, a little bit over,

1:15:56 > 1:16:05and that score will change today to 39.4. This is Vittoria Panizzon from

1:16:06 > 1:16:11Italy. She is based in the UK and has been in the UK for a large part

1:16:12 > 1:16:15of her life, and she competes regularly on the British circuit.

1:16:16 > 1:16:30She is a fast cross-country rider as well.

1:16:31 > 1:16:39Sara Algotsson Ostholt now. I think that is a combination and tears that

1:16:40 > 1:16:44people will be talking about when things finished today. Just giving

1:16:45 > 1:16:52the horse a part and he knows that he can take the pressure off and

1:16:53 > 1:16:58almost coast home. What he could do is say that third last fence is the

1:16:59 > 1:17:02only potential problem between him and ending up at the top of the

1:17:03 > 1:17:06leaderboard. Or second on the leaderboard. He could afford to keep

1:17:07 > 1:17:10up this pace, take the Long route home at that fence and still get

1:17:11 > 1:17:14home inside the time or he could take his foot from the gas, jump

1:17:15 > 1:17:20that difficult road but carefully so he is not pressured by the clock.

1:17:21 > 1:17:26There is no advantage to coming home in the optimum time. If he came home

1:17:27 > 1:17:32at 9.45, ever give him no advantage. He is going the directorate.

1:17:33 > 1:17:39Perfect. He made the turn Furley early. He made it early enough so

1:17:40 > 1:17:46that the horse could see the last element. He flies over the picnic

1:17:47 > 1:17:50table and makes the left-handed bend up and this will change our medal

1:17:51 > 1:17:57positions. You would expect into off and coast. He stays behind the horse

1:17:58 > 1:18:04and allows the horse to come up through the shoulder. He did make it

1:18:05 > 1:18:09easy and it is nine minutes 45 seconds, 15 seconds inside the

1:18:10 > 1:18:11optimum time. He stays on the dressage score and that changes

1:18:12 > 1:18:19everything at the top of our leaderboard. Great Britain on 113.9.

1:18:20 > 1:18:29Germany are ten points behind in the silver medal position. Then we are

1:18:30 > 1:18:36followed by Sweden. Very happy about my horse. She was powerful, always

1:18:37 > 1:18:42concentrate on every jump in every situation. In the end, I had a lot

1:18:43 > 1:18:47of time, but I go a bit slower, I would like to keep the rhythm so

1:18:48 > 1:18:50that she not think she is finished. We still have quite tough

1:18:51 > 1:18:59combinations in the end and you need a bit of power and the speed. You're

1:19:00 > 1:19:02going for a record-breaking fourth consecutive European title, how much

1:19:03 > 1:19:10is a rattling around in the back of your mind? At the moment, I am very

1:19:11 > 1:19:15happy about my round and my horse is very fresh and healthy in the

1:19:16 > 1:19:21finish. That is the most important thing. We have to really concentrate

1:19:22 > 1:19:28that we have a good round tomorrow. 34.2 is the score and that would put

1:19:29 > 1:19:35her just above Nicola Wilson and into the bronze medal place. She has

1:19:36 > 1:19:39got two rains, which are sometimes more of a handful. Changing your

1:19:40 > 1:19:47stick over can be quite complicated when you have five things in your

1:19:48 > 1:19:55hands. A few of the athletes competing today have their partner

1:19:56 > 1:20:02or relatives competing. Her partner won a gold medal for Germany at the

1:20:03 > 1:20:062008 games. Vittoria Panizzon, member of the Italian air force

1:20:07 > 1:20:09support group and she has represented her country at Olympic

1:20:10 > 1:20:15level as well. She goes through the trees and ran towards the second

1:20:16 > 1:20:19field, having a look at her watch as she crossed the roads. A really good

1:20:20 > 1:20:24day on cross country for a team in Britain, how would you assess how it

1:20:25 > 1:20:32has gone? Great day in the office for the team, the whole team, they

1:20:33 > 1:20:37have gone really well, things do happen, Piggy French had a

1:20:38 > 1:20:40frustrating run out, but Ollie kept ticking on, so that put us in a

1:20:41 > 1:20:44comfortable position at the end and the three girls that backed up the

1:20:45 > 1:20:50team, they were fantastic. You seem to be a lucky time, all that success

1:20:51 > 1:20:56in charge of the German team and now the British team are overnight

1:20:57 > 1:21:00leaders at the championships. I always say, from the Roman

1:21:01 > 1:21:05philosopher, love is worth preparation meets opportunity. They

1:21:06 > 1:21:10were well prepared. Good to be back in the British camp? Exciting to be

1:21:11 > 1:21:15back. I get a lot of ribbing from my German friends, it has been a great

1:21:16 > 1:21:21atmosphere here. I am delighted to see how Ingrid and Mickey have gone.

1:21:22 > 1:21:27To be quietly coming from behind and overtaking them, it gives me a bit

1:21:28 > 1:21:31of a thrill. As she comes around, her time is looking very good as she

1:21:32 > 1:21:36jumps the yellow jumper and heads out through the trees riding the

1:21:37 > 1:21:43horse that she took to the Olympics last year. She is on track to maybe

1:21:44 > 1:21:46dip inside the time. This is a really important ran for Great

1:21:47 > 1:21:50Britain because Nicola Wilson currently sits in the bronze medal

1:21:51 > 1:21:54position and this is the rider that the pressure out of the medals and

1:21:55 > 1:22:05down into fourth place as we look ahead to the showjumping phase.

1:22:06 > 1:22:09Clear through 26th. Little tab and you could hear that device making a

1:22:10 > 1:22:19little noise. It has to break for penalties. Here is Vittoria

1:22:20 > 1:22:23Panizzon. Sitting on 61.7, she has had a refusal at dawn course and

1:22:24 > 1:22:31that will be very expensive for her here today as she comes around to

1:22:32 > 1:22:37this final fence. 29 seconds over the time but the refusal and the 20

1:22:38 > 1:22:52added and the Time penalties, the cross-country 31.6, overall score of

1:22:53 > 1:23:0173.3. This is so key for her. She needs to move up now. It is going to

1:23:02 > 1:23:04be interesting, not much between her and Nicola Wilson who she is going

1:23:05 > 1:23:11to try and push out of a bronze medal position. Ten seconds to get

1:23:12 > 1:23:17home. She is going to be just outside the time. Let's have a look.

1:23:18 > 1:23:24That is a lovely way to jump the last fence on that open stride. She

1:23:25 > 1:23:28is overjoyed. Two seconds over. It is good enough to go into a bronze

1:23:29 > 1:23:39medal position. Here is that fill result. Michael Jung in the silver

1:23:40 > 1:23:44and Sara Algotsson Ostholt in the bronze medal position. Our Harriers

1:23:45 > 1:23:50plays a British rider in fourth place, Nicola Wilson followed by

1:23:51 > 1:23:54Gemma Tattersall. Rosalind Canter has been in great form sitting on

1:23:55 > 1:23:59the eighth place today after cross-country. Great Britain in such

1:24:00 > 1:24:08a strong position in the teams here. Sitting up on gold medal position on

1:24:09 > 1:24:15130 and .9, Germany are second. Sweden are in the bronze medal

1:24:16 > 1:24:19position on 128.5. One of the big surprises today was team France who

1:24:20 > 1:24:24came in so close up at the top and ended up not in contention here

1:24:25 > 1:24:30today. Amongst all the excitement yesterday there was one moment of

1:24:31 > 1:24:33tragedy, the Polish horse, Bob the builder fell in the arena here and

1:24:34 > 1:24:39did get up and get into the horse box to walk out but was later put

1:24:40 > 1:24:44down because of an untreatable fracture and that is devastating

1:24:45 > 1:24:49news for all involved. It is the worst possible outcome you could

1:24:50 > 1:24:54have. These horses mean so much to the riders and the grooms. They

1:24:55 > 1:24:57spend so much time with them. It is sad but it is something that can

1:24:58 > 1:25:05happen and the horse will have received the best of treatment. Out

1:25:06 > 1:25:08on the course, some really exciting cross-country riding and you said

1:25:09 > 1:25:17that course with shovel the pack and it did. Because so many problems.

1:25:18 > 1:25:20Bettina Hoy crashed out. Thomas Carlyle, the best place French rider

1:25:21 > 1:25:25did not get around and the French team are out. They were neck and

1:25:26 > 1:25:32neck for the dressage, they have never won the team title. Written is

1:25:33 > 1:25:37in pole position and of course we have four British girls in the top

1:25:38 > 1:25:42ten. And a ten point cushion at the top of the table but that is not

1:25:43 > 1:25:46very much, very fine margin when it comes to the showjumping. With the

1:25:47 > 1:25:51showjumping you're counting the best three scorers out of the team of

1:25:52 > 1:25:57four. Eight penalties, two fences down between three riders is not a

1:25:58 > 1:26:01huge amount. It is all to play for. Very fine margins. Ahead of the

1:26:02 > 1:26:05showjumping, Sweden bronze medal position, Germany and silver and

1:26:06 > 1:26:09Great Britain, the pressure is on in the showjumping if they want to hang

1:26:10 > 1:26:15onto that gold medal. Harry is off to the commentary box to join Adam

1:26:16 > 1:26:21once again. It is really going to build into an exciting climax. We

1:26:22 > 1:26:26have Rosalind Canter for Great Britain, Gemma Tattersall and Nicola

1:26:27 > 1:26:31Wilson. Nickel is the highest ranked individual at the moment from Great

1:26:32 > 1:26:40Britain on a 35.5. -- Nicola. This is a man who moved to Great Britain

1:26:41 > 1:26:53in 2009 to train and then moved trainers in 2014. This is a horse he

1:26:54 > 1:27:03knows very well. Ludwig Svennerstal is the next to go. He ranks in a

1:27:04 > 1:27:10gold medal position at this stage. We know that will definitely change.

1:27:11 > 1:27:15Riding a good Conservative line, he does not go to wild and risk having

1:27:16 > 1:27:24to up the tempo in order to make the time. He almost twists over and the

1:27:25 > 1:27:27danger was he went a little bit to the left on landing which meant he

1:27:28 > 1:27:34cut the corner and many have to make sure you do not run into deeper into

1:27:35 > 1:27:39that upright. This sense has a narrow spread the sometimes it looks

1:27:40 > 1:27:45easier for that and sometimes horses cannot finish their jump and have it

1:27:46 > 1:27:50down and get cramped behind. He has got a little bit of luck out there

1:27:51 > 1:27:58today. Sometimes you need a bit of luck, though. This is where you want

1:27:59 > 1:28:02to go right up into the corner to get straight because this is

1:28:03 > 1:28:07influential. You can see him working hard. It takes a stride out. He

1:28:08 > 1:28:14makes a Horlicks of our buddies to get back for the next fence. He

1:28:15 > 1:28:21finishes on just a four. What a four that was. Four penalties added onto

1:28:22 > 1:28:26his car and 53.2. Ludwig Svennerstal just takes one out and as Harry

1:28:27 > 1:28:33says, makes a Horlicks of it. That was bad luck, he jumped in, you can

1:28:34 > 1:28:38see how close that was. Here the horse stands right off. It is meant

1:28:39 > 1:28:41to be two strides. He was a little bit open jumping them. He took out a

1:28:42 > 1:28:56stride. Thibaut Valette now from France. The

1:28:57 > 1:29:02French team are now out of contention here. They have to riders

1:29:03 > 1:29:06who did not finish. That was yesterday. Although he was a member

1:29:07 > 1:29:11of the team, the team no longer exist so he is jumping purely for

1:29:12 > 1:29:18his individual honours now. Thibaut Valette as a Lieutenant Colonel in

1:29:19 > 1:29:25the French cavalry. That is French cavalry school. They are trained in

1:29:26 > 1:29:29the classical principles of equitation. That is where he started

1:29:30 > 1:29:32inventing during his three years at military college, he started

1:29:33 > 1:29:37competing seriously during that time and kept on going and this is a

1:29:38 > 1:29:50horse he knows well. He has had it since 2012. Sit up and wait. This is

1:29:51 > 1:29:55where you can allow the horse to move on. You can see him changing

1:29:56 > 1:30:20his pace and back again. You can see how good the horse is

1:30:21 > 1:30:24behind, the hind legs technique, how the horse gets those legs away from

1:30:25 > 1:30:30the fence. A good round and well within the time. 47.7, lots of

1:30:31 > 1:30:37French flags flying in the crowd today. 47.7 will be his score, and

1:30:38 > 1:30:49that moves him up right to the top of our leaderboard. And there are

1:30:50 > 1:30:53those flags. See how the horse uses his back, able to invert those hind

1:30:54 > 1:31:03legs at the backs of the pelvis keeps coming up as the front legs go

1:31:04 > 1:31:07down. Such a great technique. And they have two scores in the

1:31:08 > 1:31:11thousands, not in contention today as part of the team result, but he

1:31:12 > 1:31:12rode so well as an individual, I think you will be happy with that

1:31:13 > 1:31:25round. And now the Swede in her second

1:31:26 > 1:31:33Europeans. If you arrive at slightly floaty cantor, the line the course

1:31:34 > 1:31:38design gives you going round the tree to the left-hand side, it

1:31:39 > 1:31:49pushes you on the shallow, long approach to the first fence. Always

1:31:50 > 1:31:58much easier coming off a turn. Stands off it, sitting up.

1:31:59 > 1:32:06Always a long way home if you hit the first fence. Stay in the

1:32:07 > 1:32:11present, don't reflect on the past or think about the scores, just stay

1:32:12 > 1:32:15in the present and get straight on with the next fence. Straightened up

1:32:16 > 1:32:26through the distance and down to the vertical. Make good use of the room.

1:32:27 > 1:32:37And jumps the last, finishing on just the four. The front part of the

1:32:38 > 1:32:43first. Finishes on four penalties, 72.62, inside the time allowed to

1:32:44 > 1:32:58bring her score to 48.3 and moves her down one place and into second.

1:32:59 > 1:33:08After that she wrote a wonderful round. That's something you can

1:33:09 > 1:33:15change your preparation for, the first fence. Sitting on bronze

1:33:16 > 1:33:26position at the moment, 136.4, maintaining bronze position. Pietro

1:33:27 > 1:33:34Roman for Italy now. The Italian team sitting fourth at this stage of

1:33:35 > 1:33:41the competition. Joins us ranked tenth individually on 41. The first

1:33:42 > 1:33:48one to go clear inside the time yesterday, which was notable because

1:33:49 > 1:33:52at that point nobody had got close to the time and for a long time he

1:33:53 > 1:34:04was the only one. But it proved to the other riders it was possible.

1:34:05 > 1:34:13His brother also heavily involved. Just comes a bit too open to that.

1:34:14 > 1:34:22You can see from the Kante beforehand. A little bit happy. This

1:34:23 > 1:34:30is where you've got to find a breathing point on the course where

1:34:31 > 1:34:33you can regroup. The sweeping line of seven strides and then five

1:34:34 > 1:34:38strides to the yellow and white vertical are all related. They are

1:34:39 > 1:34:45all related. This moment here is time when you can think and

1:34:46 > 1:34:48reorganise. Centre part of the combination comes down. That means

1:34:49 > 1:34:56he's coming round and eight penalties. Jumps the final fence and

1:34:57 > 1:35:01will finish on eight today. 74.39 is the time and the score corrects that

1:35:02 > 1:35:10to 49 in total to move him down to fourth. Still huge pacts for the

1:35:11 > 1:35:16horse. It's the horse he took to the Europeans in 2015. Just a little bit

1:35:17 > 1:35:29unlucky today. Moving down three places. Coming to the centre part of

1:35:30 > 1:35:34this combination again. The cantor coming into that combination is so

1:35:35 > 1:35:44important. Let's see the Italy scorecard. He moves down into fourth

1:35:45 > 1:35:50place on 211.8. That means Italy are out, they can no longer move up into

1:35:51 > 1:35:56a team medal position. Kai Ruder is next. Sitting on a 40.3 after the

1:35:57 > 1:36:05cross-country. Ranked ninth, competing here is an individual.

1:36:06 > 1:36:14An athlete we saw at the Sydney games in 2000. His father Thomas,

1:36:15 > 1:36:21his brother and wife are all involved in the sport of eventing.

1:36:22 > 1:36:25Lovely technique over the fence, this horse. He's one you can keep

1:36:26 > 1:36:35away from the fence and he holds shape. Rather cramped cantor in the

1:36:36 > 1:36:40last few strides. Easy to stay out on that line rather than have to

1:36:41 > 1:36:43take away the length of stride. Going over a longer distance and

1:36:44 > 1:36:51reducing the stride length on the inside line.

1:36:52 > 1:37:00You can see the horse jumps big over the first one, and then cat to

1:37:01 > 1:37:09shorten himself jump out cleanly. Well executed there. Started to turn

1:37:10 > 1:37:20in the air. Little tap through there. Comes round and jumps the

1:37:21 > 1:37:29last fence, finishing on 74.15. Stays on the dressage and

1:37:30 > 1:37:34cross-country score. The German here as an individual athlete. I have

1:37:35 > 1:37:39been so excited for this next rider all weekend long. She rode

1:37:40 > 1:37:43fantastically in the dressage. Went really well in the cross-country.

1:37:44 > 1:37:53Great Britain are guaranteed a team medal today, but where will it be?

1:37:54 > 1:38:04Gold or silver? Now it's Ros Canter, on Allstar B. On May 40.2. Regular

1:38:05 > 1:38:10member of the nation cup team for Great Britain. Her first big moment

1:38:11 > 1:38:17in the sport where after that great badminton performance, we see the

1:38:18 > 1:38:21horse fiddling the change of leg after being disunited through the

1:38:22 > 1:38:25line. After going so well at Badminton, she was given a chance

1:38:26 > 1:38:30for her first championship debut and has been rewarded with a team place.

1:38:31 > 1:38:35She posted a personal best in the dressage and road with real majority

1:38:36 > 1:38:39yesterday. The horse is a good jumper, so she will just go and do

1:38:40 > 1:38:46what she normally does and execute a very polished round if you can. It

1:38:47 > 1:38:50really all hangs in the balance because all scores count for Great

1:38:51 > 1:38:53Britain. Although he's a big horse he was nimble Bear, trotting a

1:38:54 > 1:38:58stride in front, trying to fiddle his way to the right take-off point

1:38:59 > 1:39:01in front of the double uprights. Coming to the combination and I am

1:39:02 > 1:39:13on the edge of my seat. We need this clear. Oh! It stays up, gets away

1:39:14 > 1:39:17with it. To the final fence, clearing the last, and you can see

1:39:18 > 1:39:21the team members and onlookers jumping up and down. They know what

1:39:22 > 1:39:27that means. They are moving into an even stronger position as she

1:39:28 > 1:39:40finishes on 40.2. Callum Brittain take the gold today? -- can Great

1:39:41 > 1:39:46Britain take the gold today? She will be delighted. The best of the

1:39:47 > 1:39:53Brits at Badminton, posting a good score here today as well. Great

1:39:54 > 1:39:59Britain at the moment on 113.9 and ranking at the top of the

1:40:00 > 1:40:08leaderboard. It was going to be a good one today. Now it's Sarah Ennis

1:40:09 > 1:40:14of Ireland. Ranked seventh after the dressage and cross-country. Things

1:40:15 > 1:40:19really hotting up at the European eventing Championships. I believe

1:40:20 > 1:40:23this is the first time Ireland has had a combination entering the final

1:40:24 > 1:40:36phase of a championship with a score in the 30s.

1:40:37 > 1:40:46She moves the horse up to save some time and then steadies him back

1:40:47 > 1:40:57before jumping the triple bar. After lengthening she needs to straighten

1:40:58 > 1:41:03up. This can be unforgiving. The horse shaking its head, asking it to

1:41:04 > 1:41:07come back to her. Resisting the hand a little bit. A forward jump, and

1:41:08 > 1:41:16the trajectory takes the front rail with the legs. Again jumping in

1:41:17 > 1:41:22quite forward so will have to work hard.

1:41:23 > 1:41:34Just finishes on the four today. Shaking her head. You can see she

1:41:35 > 1:41:37knows she's disappointed, but I think it's still quite a good

1:41:38 > 1:41:41performance. I think it was an outstanding performance. She would

1:41:42 > 1:41:45have wanted a clear round, but to come in and finish in the low 40s is

1:41:46 > 1:41:50outstanding. You can see the horse jumping through the hands and drank

1:41:51 > 1:42:09in legs through the fence. Just reaching the highest point over the

1:42:10 > 1:42:12back rail. Ireland on 43.4.. Currently rated fifth. Tina Cook of

1:42:13 > 1:42:26Great Britain, ranking 26 in the world. Billy The Red, ranking sixth

1:42:27 > 1:42:30place at the moment. Tina is an experienced team member, a former

1:42:31 > 1:42:34European champion both individually and in the team. This combination

1:42:35 > 1:42:41have jumped their last 11 international events in showjumping

1:42:42 > 1:42:47and have done ten clear rounds. Please don't jinx her. I'm not, I

1:42:48 > 1:42:51don't believe in witchcraft. We know Great Britain will get a team medal

1:42:52 > 1:42:57today. That's guaranteed. All scores count for the team today. Rattles

1:42:58 > 1:43:01that but it stays up. A personal best in the dressage. Clear inside

1:43:02 > 1:43:06the time with one of the best cross-country rounds of the day.

1:43:07 > 1:43:09Forward jump, but this horse doesn't have a long stride so can afford to

1:43:10 > 1:43:16jump in nice and big without losing space.

1:43:17 > 1:43:27Nicely through the double. My heart is pounding at the moment. We've got

1:43:28 > 1:43:32the combination. A little slip but time to recover and get your

1:43:33 > 1:43:40composure. This is the hardest events. She's over it. One to go.

1:43:41 > 1:43:49Clears the final one. She will be overjoyed. The onlookers are

1:43:50 > 1:43:54overjoyed. Everyone is overjoyed as she punches the air and finishes

1:43:55 > 1:43:58with a 38.2 and that will be very influential. It buys a bit of

1:43:59 > 1:44:01breathing space for the team. They only have two fences in hand between

1:44:02 > 1:44:09the three of them. She has jumped clear. The other two will be so

1:44:10 > 1:44:13grateful. Exactly. But it's not over and this will keep us on the edge of

1:44:14 > 1:44:21our seats until the end. A super round and a great ambassador. For

1:44:22 > 1:44:29British eventing. It's hotting up here. It really is. This is how

1:44:30 > 1:44:37things look at the moment... We retain the lead on 113.9. Great

1:44:38 > 1:44:44Britain's Gemma Tattersall is next, riding here individual. Not part of

1:44:45 > 1:44:49the team, but she's able, she is in fifth place, so she will be for an

1:44:50 > 1:44:52individual medal. This is the mare she rode at the Olympics, which

1:44:53 > 1:44:57jumped a clear round at the showjumping phase there. What a

1:44:58 > 1:45:01story it would be if we could take the gold medal in the team events

1:45:02 > 1:45:05and also an individual medal for this very talented athlete. From the

1:45:06 > 1:45:13team point of view, just Nicola Wilson to come. She has two fences

1:45:14 > 1:45:22in hand for the team gold medal. But Gemma... Expensive rail there. She

1:45:23 > 1:45:32now has to you stay in the moment and not reflect on that.

1:45:33 > 1:45:38Such an experienced showjumper. Live is not very far from Hickstead and

1:45:39 > 1:45:43jumps plenty of the showjumping classes there during the winter

1:45:44 > 1:45:47months. That rail has been mighty expensive because it moves right

1:45:48 > 1:45:53down and out of the individual medal places.

1:45:54 > 1:46:01Another one to come down, the back rail at the first part of the

1:46:02 > 1:46:05trouble. The how disappointing for her because she has ridden

1:46:06 > 1:46:10fantastically well all weekend. Two rails down today for Great Britain

1:46:11 > 1:46:16's Gemma Tattersall, bringing her score to 44.7 so she moves from...

1:46:17 > 1:46:21Maintains fifth-place she started with today. She really wanted to use

1:46:22 > 1:46:27the showjumping to push her up into the medals. Fifth currently but we

1:46:28 > 1:46:31still have four to go so the worse she can finish this ninth. To finish

1:46:32 > 1:46:35top ten at the Europeans isn't bad for a day at the office. It's

1:46:36 > 1:46:41brilliant. But she will know she had a chance of the medal so... I need

1:46:42 > 1:46:45to grab onto you or something because we have the final Great

1:46:46 > 1:46:55Britain combination. Nicola Wilson, what a talent. Bulana, great

1:46:56 > 1:46:58written. -- Great Britain. Binding force, she will bid to challenge for

1:46:59 > 1:47:02the individual medals, but the most important aim for the week is the

1:47:03 > 1:47:10team gold medal. Nicola going into the final phase currently has two

1:47:11 > 1:47:15fences in hand. She has less than two fences down, or to fence or one

1:47:16 > 1:47:20fence or a clear round, Britain will win the team gold medal.

1:47:21 > 1:47:37She sits on a 35.5 as she joins us today.

1:47:38 > 1:47:47A strong mare. So if Nicola lengthens on she's not easy to bring

1:47:48 > 1:47:51back. Sitting back and making the horse work. Ideally you want to come

1:47:52 > 1:47:56up and backwards. But this horse isn't easy to ride. Nicola doing

1:47:57 > 1:48:03well to keep her away from the front rail. Again, slightly running

1:48:04 > 1:48:07through the bridle. All clear so far. Four fences left to jump. If

1:48:08 > 1:48:15she clears the first two it will mean gold. They've got it. Britain

1:48:16 > 1:48:22take the first gold medal since Germany. She clears the fine

1:48:23 > 1:48:28offence. They know what it means, they have worked it out. Nicola

1:48:29 > 1:48:35Wilson on 39.5 and Great Britain finishing on a score of 113.9. Great

1:48:36 > 1:48:41Britain taking the team gold medal at the European Championships of

1:48:42 > 1:48:452017. What a weekend. We have been waiting to knock the Germans off the

1:48:46 > 1:48:51top spot and the team of girls have done a great job. Oliver going out

1:48:52 > 1:48:54as Pathfinder and then Ros Canter, Tina Cook and Nicola Wilson showing

1:48:55 > 1:48:58such great skill and professionalism, taking every point

1:48:59 > 1:49:01they can in the dressage. Gutsy performances, and to hold the nerve

1:49:02 > 1:49:05with such a good showjumping round is wonderful. Those celebrations

1:49:06 > 1:49:08will continue for some time and not just here but across Great Britain.

1:49:09 > 1:49:19There is the final scorecard... Great Britain takes the European

1:49:20 > 1:49:28team gold at the eventing Championships. But it's not over. We

1:49:29 > 1:49:38have three combinations left ago. Individual medals to worry about.

1:49:39 > 1:49:40The Swede starting today on a score of 35 and currently sitting

1:49:41 > 1:49:57individually in bronze. Starts off in this nice rhythm,

1:49:58 > 1:50:12keeping up a good pace. You can see her style of riding is

1:50:13 > 1:50:15to be tall in front of the fence. Almost slightly behind the vertical

1:50:16 > 1:50:18with the body. Dropping the back end, and that can happen if you get

1:50:19 > 1:50:28behind the horse as they cramp up behind. Eight penalties to bring her

1:50:29 > 1:50:31to 40.3. That means Nicola Wilson is guaranteed an individual medal here

1:50:32 > 1:50:37at the Europeans. But where will she finish?

1:50:38 > 1:50:50Ingrid Klimke and Michael Jung for Germany both still to come. Dan

1:50:51 > 1:50:54Twardzik fine offence, carrying eight penalties to add to the skull.

1:50:55 > 1:50:58But that has been expensive. The final one comes down as well

1:50:59 > 1:51:04bringing it up to 12 penalties to add to her score. That moves her

1:51:05 > 1:51:16from a medal position down into seventh as she finishes on 47.74.

1:51:17 > 1:51:23Should competes with Sweden, and her husband is a former Olympic team

1:51:24 > 1:51:28gold medallist. Nicola Wilson confirmed as taking an individual

1:51:29 > 1:51:28medal today. What a great day for Great Britain. Sweden Passlack

1:51:29 > 1:51:46scorecard... Sweden will take the bronze medal

1:51:47 > 1:51:49here today. Two to go, and Great Britain individually at the moment

1:51:50 > 1:51:57sitting not only in gold and silver, but also in bronze. Michael Jung

1:51:58 > 1:52:05joins us from Germany on a score of 32.8 on Fisher Ross Kemp. This is

1:52:06 > 1:52:07interesting because he has won three individual European gold medals

1:52:08 > 1:52:13consecutively. I can't remember anyone ever winning four. Nobody has

1:52:14 > 1:52:18ever won three in a row either. He has broken a lot of records, and

1:52:19 > 1:52:22individually he has been reigning world, Olympic and European gold

1:52:23 > 1:52:26medallist. And just for good measure, he is attempting to win his

1:52:27 > 1:52:30fourth individual title at the Europeans. He has won to individual

1:52:31 > 1:52:34titles at the Olympics and individual gold and silver at the

1:52:35 > 1:52:42World Championships. The silver came with this mare. Would it be an

1:52:43 > 1:52:46exaggeration to say he's the best the world of eventing has ever seen?

1:52:47 > 1:52:50I don't think that is. What makes him so good is he can ride with the

1:52:51 > 1:52:56freedom of the horse and a real rhythm, but he's so accurate. He has

1:52:57 > 1:53:00that scuttling stride so he often looks like he's chasing her out of

1:53:01 > 1:53:05his rhythm. He is doing everything he can to try to get her to lengthen

1:53:06 > 1:53:11its stride. Made it look quite long where others have made it look

1:53:12 > 1:53:14short. It means it makes it easy for her to jump the third part of the

1:53:15 > 1:53:20trouble where it slightly short. The combination and the final to come.

1:53:21 > 1:53:27Does a lot of pure showjumping himself. Wants to come forward. He's

1:53:28 > 1:53:36over the last, and he will finish on that score today of 32.8. The time

1:53:37 > 1:53:45is not an issue for this partnership. They give a masterclass

1:53:46 > 1:53:52in the cross country yesterday. One left to come. And just one that can

1:53:53 > 1:53:59take away the fourth consecutive individual gold at the Europeans.

1:54:00 > 1:54:05What a talent he is. Michael Jung sits up at the top in the individual

1:54:06 > 1:54:06gold place. Nicola Wilson of Great Britain in silver and Tina Cook in

1:54:07 > 1:54:21bronze with one left to come. This is the last one. If Ingrid

1:54:22 > 1:54:25Klimke jumps clear, she takes gold. If she has one fence down and

1:54:26 > 1:54:30Michael Jung takes gold and she would stay ahead of Nicola Wilson.

1:54:31 > 1:54:39If she has two fences down the Nicola Wilson will stay in silver.

1:54:40 > 1:54:47She needs to keep all the fences up. Ingrid is well-known for her dress

1:54:48 > 1:54:53driving. -- dressage riding. Her showjumping form hasn't been great

1:54:54 > 1:54:55lately. She was in the lead at Badminton but had a disappointing

1:54:56 > 1:55:14time. The same thing happened elsewhere. Being so careful. She

1:55:15 > 1:55:21will be mindful of the time. She will not want to lose on a time

1:55:22 > 1:55:31fault. Little tap but she gets away with it. She could have two time

1:55:32 > 1:55:38faults. Saving time, not going as far to the end of the arena as

1:55:39 > 1:55:43others to save time. The time is OK. One fence stands between her and the

1:55:44 > 1:55:50medal. She clears it, pushing over the finishing line. 68.09, and she

1:55:51 > 1:55:56will take the individual gold at the European eventing Championships of

1:55:57 > 1:55:592017. Michael Jung will take silver. But Great Britain 's Nicola Wilson

1:56:00 > 1:56:02will be jumping up and down somewhere because she is guaranteed

1:56:03 > 1:56:11to the individual bronze. A fantastic finish, going right to the

1:56:12 > 1:56:15wire. Ingrid is a popular figure in the sport, competing at the top

1:56:16 > 1:56:20level for a long time. Her father won gold medals in showjumping and

1:56:21 > 1:56:24eventing. It's just reward for somebody who has been right at the

1:56:25 > 1:56:27top of the sport for many years. It's been such an amazing weekend

1:56:28 > 1:56:34and we confirm the team result for Germany...

1:56:35 > 1:56:39They will take the team silver. Great Britain take team gold, and

1:56:40 > 1:57:14Sweden will take team bronze. This is a very interesting result,

1:57:15 > 1:57:15because we see Great Britain at the top claiming the European

1:57:16 > 1:57:33Championship gold medal. Three clear rounds from the great

1:57:34 > 1:57:39British team riders to claim team gold. Watching on was team coach

1:57:40 > 1:57:44Chris Bartle. You must be delighted. Absolutely. I can't put into words

1:57:45 > 1:57:50how impressed I am by how the riders rode and stuck to the system. You

1:57:51 > 1:57:55can hear in my voice in emotional, but that's no bad thing. I couldn't

1:57:56 > 1:57:59be more proud. What we final words because they were overnight leaders

1:58:00 > 1:58:03and they had it to throw away. I said to them to stick to the system.

1:58:04 > 1:58:06The only thing matters was a clear round in the time. If they write to

1:58:07 > 1:58:13the system they can only do their best. They all wrote exactly as they

1:58:14 > 1:58:18trained. And what they are capable of. We welcome the gold medallists

1:58:19 > 1:58:23at the European eventing Championships. Great Britain takes

1:58:24 > 1:58:29the gold. Nicola Wilson, Tina Cook, Ros Canter and Oliver Townend. Great

1:58:30 > 1:58:30Britain taking the gold medal as the audience rises for the national

1:58:31 > 1:59:28anthem of Great Britain. APPLAUSE

1:59:29 > 1:59:32Applause and cheers as Ingrid Klimke of Germany is crowned a European

1:59:33 > 1:59:39individual gold medal today with a score of 30.3. Individual silver to

1:59:40 > 1:59:47Michael Jung of Germany. The bronze to Great Britain and Nicola Wilson.

1:59:48 > 1:59:55The whole week felt very positive to me. The whole feel of the team has

1:59:56 > 1:59:58been fantastic. I tried to go out and do my job and hopefully did my

1:59:59 > 2:00:02bit to give them the information and show them what they needed to see in

2:00:03 > 2:00:09certain ways. But the whole week has been such a positive feel and a real

2:00:10 > 2:00:15team effort. It's been a great atmosphere. And your horse is OK? A

2:00:16 > 2:00:19minor injury but OK. Could probably have jumped actually, but I relied

2:00:20 > 2:00:24on the girls to do that for me. They have done an unbelievable job and

2:00:25 > 2:00:26have all and fantastically all week. You couldn't wish for a better bunch

2:00:27 > 2:00:38of people to be here. Highly due hold your nerve to clinch

2:00:39 > 2:00:42that gold medal? We desperately wanted it. We are back on top. You

2:00:43 > 2:00:45need to think about your training and not let the pressure get to you

2:00:46 > 2:00:49otherwise it might change your riding style and unnerve the horse.

2:00:50 > 2:00:53Keeping control of the excitement and we all managed to do that. I

2:00:54 > 2:00:59think it will take a while to come back down to read but I am feeling

2:01:00 > 2:01:02very lucky, being surrounded by visiting and the whole of the team,

2:01:03 > 2:01:07we have had such a fantastic week and it has really given me a lot of

2:01:08 > 2:01:12dreams about doing this again and again. It has been amazing, to be

2:01:13 > 2:01:17part of such a fantastic team and have the support we have had, we are

2:01:18 > 2:01:20so incredibly lucky, the horses have all been fantastic and the grooms

2:01:21 > 2:01:27and owners, it has been a tremendous week from start to finish. How will

2:01:28 > 2:01:31you celebrate? I'm not sure. We are surrounded by riders wearing their

2:01:32 > 2:01:36medals but what a performance from the British team, three clear rounds

2:01:37 > 2:01:46to clinch that gold. Brilliant. Clear rounds win medals and for

2:01:47 > 2:01:48those three counting scores to go when under pressure and not use a

2:01:49 > 2:01:50bailout, that was wonderful. What does this mean for British eventing,

2:01:51 > 2:01:55in the ground context of the sport, how important is this? In the

2:01:56 > 2:02:03post-war area, it has been our sport and in recent times, it is a

2:02:04 > 2:02:09biannual event, Britain won the gold medal on all eight occasions between

2:02:10 > 2:02:131995 and 2009 and then the Germans came along and they won the next

2:02:14 > 2:02:18three. For us to have wrestled the gold medal back from them will mean

2:02:19 > 2:02:21a lot to restore British pride. Onto bigger and better things over the

2:02:22 > 2:02:26next few years in the build-up to the next Olympics. What a few days

2:02:27 > 2:02:31it has been here? Now, plenty of other sport for you to enjoy over

2:02:32 > 2:02:35the next few days here on the BBC. It is the turn of the dressage

2:02:36 > 2:02:39riders to have their European Championships later this week, Arab

2:02:40 > 2:02:45coverage starts on Thursday with the first round of the team showjumping

2:02:46 > 2:02:49live on the website. And then we will have highlights of the best of

2:02:50 > 2:02:54the dressage and jumping action from the championships in Gothenburg next

2:02:55 > 2:02:58Sunday afternoon for you here on BBC Two. Before that there are

2:02:59 > 2:03:03highlights of the two Premier League games on much of the day two at

2:03:04 > 2:03:0710:30pm tonight on BBC One and tomorrow, live coverage of the

2:03:08 > 2:03:13Babington World Championships from Glasgow which begins at 11 o'clock

2:03:14 > 2:03:17on the BBC Sport website and the connected button. That is just about

2:03:18 > 2:03:22it from Poland and what a few days it has been, gold for Great Britain

2:03:23 > 2:03:26after some fearless riding. Germany may still have its individual

2:03:27 > 2:03:29superstars, but Great Britain can say that they are now the best team

2:03:30 > 2:03:32in Europe. Thanks for watching.
