0:00:41 > 0:00:44Hello, welcome to Football Focus.

0:00:44 > 0:00:47It's cold out there and we have plenty of reasons to stay cozy

0:00:47 > 0:00:52on the sofa this Saturday lunchtime.

0:00:52 > 0:00:53The North London derby takes centre stage.

0:00:53 > 0:00:56We hear from Tottenham's main Jan.

0:00:56 > 0:01:03Looking forward to this game, always a great atmosphere, it's very

0:01:03 > 0:01:10respectful.

0:01:10 > 0:01:11Can Leicester derail the Manchester City juggernaut?

0:01:11 > 0:01:14Schmeichel Junior is expecting a busy evening.

0:01:14 > 0:01:17It's going to be a tough game but we have one there before and we go

0:01:17 > 0:01:19there with confidence.

0:01:19 > 0:01:21Last season's champions seem to be coming off the rails.

0:01:21 > 0:01:22Chelsea in crisis?

0:01:22 > 0:01:26Lowest point of the season, lowest I have felt for a while.

0:01:26 > 0:01:28And we're on our travels to Turin where Juventus

0:01:28 > 0:01:30are preparing for Spurs, and to Brora Rangers

0:01:30 > 0:01:32in the Scottish Highlands, who take on Kilmarnock

0:01:32 > 0:01:37in their first ever fifth round Scottish Cup tie.

0:01:37 > 0:01:40In the studio we have Kevin Kilbane and a Football Focus

0:01:40 > 0:01:42debut for Garry Monk, formerly of Middlesbrough,

0:01:42 > 0:01:45Leeds and Swansea.

0:01:45 > 0:01:48Lovely to have you here.

0:01:48 > 0:01:50We start with some terribly sad news.

0:01:50 > 0:01:53Last night it was announced that the former Republic of Ireland

0:01:53 > 0:01:55midfielder Liam Miller has died at the age of 36.

0:01:55 > 0:02:03He was suffering with pancreatic cancer.

0:02:03 > 0:02:05We're not showing you the right clip.

0:02:05 > 0:02:07Liam started his career at Celtic in 2000 before moving

0:02:07 > 0:02:08to Old Trafford four years later.

0:02:08 > 0:02:11He also played for Leeds, Sunderland, QPR and Hibernian.

0:02:11 > 0:02:13He won 21 caps for the Republic between 2004 and 2009

0:02:13 > 0:02:17and was someone Kevin knew well.

0:02:17 > 0:02:24This was him scoring for Sunderland later in his career. When we got

0:02:24 > 0:02:30word that he was suffering with cancer in the last month or two,

0:02:30 > 0:02:33devastating news for all of Senrab played alongside him but when the

0:02:33 > 0:02:38news filtered through last terribly sad -- who had played along side

0:02:38 > 0:02:43him. You think of his family, his wife and three children, that hits

0:02:43 > 0:02:47home more than anything. Playing alongside him, we have seen the

0:02:47 > 0:02:53ability he had as a play, excellent at Celtic and Man United and

0:02:53 > 0:02:59Sunderland, all of the clubs, but terribly humble as a lad.A lot of

0:02:59 > 0:03:03fans have said that, shocked by the news, but they had so much affection

0:03:03 > 0:03:08for him. That was the thing with him, he was very unassuming and

0:03:08 > 0:03:13quiet, just got on with things. Around the squads, when he first

0:03:13 > 0:03:18came into the Irish setup, he just got on with it, there were no airs

0:03:18 > 0:03:24and graces. I think it will be devastating news to everybody who

0:03:24 > 0:03:28had played with him over the years. Just our thoughts are with his

0:03:28 > 0:03:37family on his wife and children. We agree with that.

0:03:38 > 0:03:42agree with that. Celtic are playing against Partick Thistle today. There

0:03:42 > 0:03:47will be a minute 's silence before that game and the players will be

0:03:47 > 0:03:52wearing black armbands, in memory of Liam Miller who has died aged 36.

0:03:52 > 0:03:55He would have been 37 on Tuesday.

0:03:55 > 0:03:57Let's turn to the weekend's Premier League fixtures, which kick

0:03:57 > 0:04:02off with the North London derby.

0:04:02 > 0:04:05More on that in a moment.

0:04:05 > 0:04:09There are five 3 o'clock games.

0:04:09 > 0:04:12Swansea will want to keep up their recent upturn against Burnley.

0:04:12 > 0:04:14Top of the table Manchester City are at home to Leicester

0:04:14 > 0:04:16in the early evening game.

0:04:16 > 0:04:18Three tomorrow, with second-placed Manchester United and third-placed

0:04:18 > 0:04:19Liverpool in action, and Chelsea again

0:04:19 > 0:04:20play on Monday night.

0:04:20 > 0:04:22Let's start with Tottenham, who host Arsenal this lunchtime.

0:04:22 > 0:04:25Jan Vertonghen has been speaking to some school children taking part

0:04:25 > 0:04:32in the PlayStation Cup, and Mark Clemmit.

0:04:37 > 0:04:44I have prepared our lesson, the topics are on the board and first up

0:04:44 > 0:04:47is the term report. What do you reckon of your season so far at

0:04:47 > 0:04:53Spurs?We had some great games and moments. We had a little dip in

0:04:53 > 0:04:57October and November but apart from that, we have played some great

0:04:57 > 0:05:01football.

0:05:01 > 0:05:04Especially the last couple of games against United and Liverpool, we are

0:05:04 > 0:05:10on top of our game.Fifth, third, second. At what point does this

0:05:10 > 0:05:17group of players, to have fulfilled their potential, have to win some

0:05:17 > 0:05:21silverware?I think we're ready for it. We have the team and the manager

0:05:21 > 0:05:27and the technical staff, the medical staff obviously not the new stadium

0:05:27 > 0:05:33yet but definitely the players the mentality in the team. We are ready

0:05:33 > 0:05:38to reward ourselves.Do you discuss it within the group? Clearly you

0:05:38 > 0:05:43have the French goalkeeper, the Belgian centre-half, the spine of

0:05:43 > 0:05:47the England team, a lot of momentum? Definitely, we have enough quality

0:05:47 > 0:05:52to win something and we feel that. It is not like we discussed it every

0:05:52 > 0:05:56day but we know we had to reward ourselves for the hard work and the

0:05:56 > 0:06:00great football we played. It seems to me that the Spurs squad is built

0:06:00 > 0:06:05on a certain character as well, that the manager has been careful with

0:06:05 > 0:06:09his recruitment, having the right values and beliefs. You have seen

0:06:09 > 0:06:19very well, with the discipline, he selects the players and the new

0:06:19 > 0:06:22players and it starts with discipline and work ethic and

0:06:22 > 0:06:30respect. Those are the main values he is looking at. If you look across

0:06:30 > 0:06:35the team, everybody is hard-working and respectful. He sees that as the

0:06:35 > 0:06:41base of a team and it is paying off. You don't need me to tell you you

0:06:41 > 0:06:45have one heck of a big week with Juventus in the Champions League and

0:06:45 > 0:06:50before that the North London derby. How have the squad looked at the

0:06:50 > 0:06:55comings and goings at Arsenal in the last few weeks? It looks a bit like

0:06:55 > 0:06:58a different team, obviously it is not but they have signed two great

0:06:58 > 0:07:04players. We have played against both of them before four different clubs

0:07:04 > 0:07:11but great players. They won their last game quite comfortably so we'll

0:07:11 > 0:07:15can thought to it, always a great atmosphere, the players on the pitch

0:07:15 > 0:07:19very respectful but just a big fight and that's what you want to see and

0:07:19 > 0:07:27why you play football.Jan Vertonghen to the rescue here.

0:07:27 > 0:07:32There is no rest for the next six months because you have the World

0:07:32 > 0:07:36Cup and you are in England to's group and there is that classic

0:07:36 > 0:07:40conundrum, goodbye to Harry Kane at the end of the domestic season and a

0:07:40 > 0:07:46few weeks later... It must be a strange experience.Very strange, it

0:07:46 > 0:07:51will be the last game in the group. A lot will depend on the previous

0:07:51 > 0:07:56results. The first time in my career that I will face my Spurs team-mates

0:07:56 > 0:08:01and it's going to be very special. I watched the draw with Eric Dier. Oh

0:08:01 > 0:08:09my God!

0:08:10 > 0:08:14We have spoken about it the next day but ever since no one mentioned it

0:08:14 > 0:08:20again.No one has mentioned a word? I think we are a bit, not scared,

0:08:20 > 0:08:25but if you have a big mouth now you have to show up! We know that

0:08:25 > 0:08:28England can beat us and they know we can beat them.

0:08:28 > 0:08:30Mr Vertonghen was encouraging the youngsters of John Warner School

0:08:30 > 0:08:33in Hoddesdon as part of the first ever National Schools Football Week,

0:08:33 > 0:08:36staged in association with the PlayStation Schools' Cup,

0:08:36 > 0:08:38which some 2,000 schools across England are

0:08:38 > 0:08:42currently taking part in.

0:08:42 > 0:08:48I am sure you will know that if you are one of them. 39 Premier League

0:08:48 > 0:08:53games for Spurs, 98 international caps as well. He is misty dependable

0:08:53 > 0:08:58for them. You know what you get with Jan Vertonghen and his is real

0:08:58 > 0:09:04quality.Exactly, and the pleasing bit with that type of player, it is

0:09:04 > 0:09:08the leadership qualities that the manager looks for, not just what he

0:09:08 > 0:09:12can do with the ball and his ability but the leadership he brings to the

0:09:12 > 0:09:15team and you want as many of those as you can add a manager and in that

0:09:15 > 0:09:24position as well, it comes out on top, including the player he is.And

0:09:24 > 0:09:27overall, qualities from Vertonghen but it's throughout the team. There

0:09:27 > 0:09:32seems to be a great team spirit instilled by Pochettino. One through

0:09:32 > 0:09:3711 they are as good as anybody in the league, it is in the depth of

0:09:37 > 0:09:42the squad, but with Vertonghen and now Alderweireld back in the squad,

0:09:42 > 0:09:46it makes them a huge prospect particularly with their weak,

0:09:46 > 0:09:51Arsenal and then Juventus.A big debate about diving this week, but

0:09:51 > 0:09:55Edina said that football is about trying to trick your opponent and

0:09:55 > 0:10:00Arsene Wenger has said that the English are becoming masters of

0:10:00 > 0:10:09diving -- Pochettino this week. This was hardly masters! We think it is a

0:10:09 > 0:10:14new thing but this has been happening for 20, 30, 40 years,

0:10:14 > 0:10:19before we even started. It is just becoming more prevalent. There was

0:10:19 > 0:10:24nowhere near any contact.Exactly and Dele Alli knows himself when he

0:10:24 > 0:10:32gets up. But it will continue, and the only problem is how broad or how

0:10:32 > 0:10:38far we take VAR.Anthony Taylor is the referee for the Spurs Arsenal

0:10:38 > 0:10:40game, both managers talking about it, he will be under the spotlight.

0:10:40 > 0:10:46And it is difficult for the referees. Situations like that are

0:10:46 > 0:10:51not helping. We have spoken about it, the key is the punishment for me

0:10:51 > 0:10:55on the severity of it.What would you do, with that incident?I would

0:10:55 > 0:11:03increase it.He got a yellow card. There is a retrospective views of

0:11:03 > 0:11:07it, but the punishment has to be severe enough where the player as to

0:11:07 > 0:11:11have that doubt in his mind, I'm not going to do it because I will end up

0:11:11 > 0:11:16losing my place in the team for three or four games. The key is

0:11:16 > 0:11:20always the punishment. The only retrospective ban that comes around

0:11:20 > 0:11:24it is if you have deceived the referee. You do feel like it has to

0:11:24 > 0:11:26start happening broadly.

0:11:26 > 0:11:28After beating Newport County in their FA Cup replay on Wednesday,

0:11:28 > 0:11:30Tottenham will travel to Greater Manchester for the fifth

0:11:30 > 0:11:32round after League One strugglers Rochdale beat Championship Millwall

0:11:32 > 0:11:36in the battle of the beach on Tuesday night.

0:11:36 > 0:11:39Ian Henderson scored the only goal of the game to set up that

0:11:39 > 0:11:42home tie with Spurs.

0:11:42 > 0:11:4562 league places between them, and we'll have that match live

0:11:45 > 0:11:47from the Crown Oil Arena, or Spotland, BBC One

0:11:47 > 0:11:52a week on Sunday.

0:11:52 > 0:11:59On the issue of the surface. In defence of Rochdale, they have had

0:11:59 > 0:12:07289 days of rain in the last year and almost five feet of rainfall on

0:12:07 > 0:12:10the pitch. Pochettino has raised genuine concerns. Would you want to

0:12:10 > 0:12:16take a team to a surface like that? I might tell them to play on the

0:12:16 > 0:12:21right side where the grass is! Of course it is in a terrible

0:12:21 > 0:12:25condition, but it is part of the FA Cup. It could be a leveller for

0:12:25 > 0:12:32Rochdale and you have to get on with it.It is serious, the game against

0:12:32 > 0:12:34Fleetwood has actually now been postponed because of the quality of

0:12:34 > 0:12:41the pitch.Garry is right, it will be a leveller. When I was at Wigan

0:12:41 > 0:12:45we stayed up under Steve Bruce and our pitch was in a terrible state

0:12:45 > 0:12:49and Steve Bruce was saying to lead it. When we had Arsenal and Man

0:12:49 > 0:12:53United and Chelsea come on, we were not bothered, we knew it would give

0:12:53 > 0:12:57is a better chance because it was a leveller. Looking at that next week,

0:12:57 > 0:13:03Wachtel have played on it.I would imagine the pitch is perfect at

0:13:03 > 0:13:07Wembley -- Rochdale have played on it.

0:13:07 > 0:13:09Steve Bower is settling into his seat and has

0:13:09 > 0:13:12the early team news.

0:13:15 > 0:13:20Thank you, the first north London derby at Wembley for almost 25 years

0:13:20 > 0:13:25Arsenal winning an FA Cup semifinal that date thanks to a goal from Tony

0:13:25 > 0:13:28Adams and the Gunners had been victorious on the last nine

0:13:28 > 0:13:31appearances at the National Stadium but they are winless away from home

0:13:31 > 0:13:37against any of the current top five since January 20 15. Spurs are

0:13:37 > 0:13:41buoyed by their victory here against Manchester United and he was up

0:13:41 > 0:13:43against Liverpool last weekend and Mauricio Pochettino names the team

0:13:43 > 0:13:48that started at Anfield with Harry Kane scoring six goals in six

0:13:48 > 0:13:51Premier League matches against Arsenal, new signing Lucas Moura is

0:13:51 > 0:13:56on the bench. Toby Alderweireld is not in the squad. Arsenal's

0:13:56 > 0:14:00hat-trick hero against Everton Aaron Ramsey has been ruled out with a

0:14:00 > 0:14:05groin injury so Mohamed Elneny is starting, Jack Wilshere is preferred

0:14:05 > 0:14:10to Iwobi behind Ozil, Mkhitaryan and Aubameyang, and Badou Jack has

0:14:10 > 0:14:15recovered from a calf injury. And to add to the usual high-stakes, it is

0:14:15 > 0:14:20hugely significant in the Champions League chase -- Petr Cech has

0:14:20 > 0:14:22recovered. And Arsenal debate would leave them seven points behind

0:14:22 > 0:14:25Spurs.

0:14:25 > 0:14:31Neither team in the top four at the moment. That is the Spurs team. We

0:14:31 > 0:14:35said it is one of the best, that is a strong team but a fascinating

0:14:35 > 0:14:41contest for them. They would have loved to have had Alderweireld back

0:14:41 > 0:14:45alongside Jan Vertonghen. Danny Rose not playing, Ben Davies selected

0:14:45 > 0:14:51ahead of him but a very strong team and it will be a class game.I'm

0:14:51 > 0:14:55sure you have been in that position as a manager in massive games, you

0:14:55 > 0:15:00look at it and everybody is excited to watch it but how do you see these

0:15:00 > 0:15:05teams this season?

0:15:05 > 0:15:08teams this season? The way, what Spurs have done in the last couple

0:15:08 > 0:15:13of seasons, being close to the title, they would like to be closer.

0:15:13 > 0:15:17The top four is always important for both teams and they are outside it

0:15:17 > 0:15:21at the moment so it is huge for various reasons but always an

0:15:21 > 0:15:25interesting one between Arsenal and Spurs. Everybody will want to watch

0:15:25 > 0:15:30it.And in terms of new recruits, Lucas Muller on the bench for Spurs,

0:15:30 > 0:15:35this is the Arsenal team. -- Lucas Moura. So exciting going forward,

0:15:35 > 0:15:41yes they have problems at the back but Mkhitaryan can bring you the SS

0:15:41 > 0:15:46which he has always had and he was brilliant for Arsenal in the last

0:15:46 > 0:15:51game.-- of the assists. He can play as number ten or off the right-hand

0:15:51 > 0:15:59side comedienne drift inside readily. His ability to pick out a

0:15:59 > 0:16:03pass, he was offside, Aubameyang, but it is the position he gets into

0:16:03 > 0:16:08to create the chances and the through balls. Three assists last

0:16:08 > 0:16:11week and a great performance and if you are Aubameyang, you make the

0:16:11 > 0:16:15runs and he will pick you out. That relationship could be key for

0:16:15 > 0:16:20Arsenal at the end of the season. And as we heard, Aaron Ramsey not

0:16:20 > 0:16:23available having scored a hat-trick in that game.

0:16:23 > 0:16:25Chelsea are the team currently clinging on to fourth place,

0:16:25 > 0:16:29but they are involved a spot of crisis management after two

0:16:29 > 0:16:31terrible league performances which have put manager Antonio Conte

0:16:31 > 0:16:38firmly under the microscope.

0:16:44 > 0:16:51Strange to put your finger on the last two games. We have the second

0:16:51 > 0:16:59highest number of clean sheets. We were high in the table

0:17:00 > 0:17:04were high in the tablethe second half was a disaster. Junior

0:17:04 > 0:17:12Stanislas to make its two, and he has done!He comes down like

0:17:12 > 0:17:19Ladbrokes on your head.Its three! Remarkable!You need to take the

0:17:19 > 0:17:23right path and you need to do that collectively put together, work hard

0:17:23 > 0:17:26together.The pressure is building on Antonio Conte. He and Chelsea

0:17:26 > 0:17:32cannot afford to lose this game. It's a second yellow card and

0:17:32 > 0:17:38Chelsea are down to ten men.We need to show character and get back on

0:17:38 > 0:17:46track.Oh, it's a penalty! And Chelsea's season gets worse!In

0:17:46 > 0:17:53terms of performance, I see ourselves. It was an abysmal

0:17:53 > 0:18:06performance.Its 3-1!It's a tough moment.

0:18:08 > 0:18:13moment.Unbelievable stuff at Vicarage Road!Really the lowest

0:18:13 > 0:18:20point of the season that I've felt for a little while.Every single

0:18:20 > 0:18:24player knows we have to try to improve, to play better than the

0:18:24 > 0:18:31game against Watford. Also against Bournemouth. It was totally

0:18:31 > 0:18:37negative, our performance. I'm not thinking for only one moments the of

0:18:37 > 0:18:46going away from this club, but when you have this with soap or a result,

0:18:46 > 0:18:48you have two divide the responsibility with the players and

0:18:48 > 0:18:52the club.

0:18:52 > 0:18:58They are in a spot of bother. What on earth has happened to Chelsea?

0:18:58 > 0:19:02This is Premier League top six since Christmas. They've gone from having

0:19:02 > 0:19:06the best joint defensive record in the Premier League to conceding

0:19:06 > 0:19:11seven goals in two games and looking shambolic at the back. Is that just

0:19:11 > 0:19:14a mental thing? What happened at Chelsea?I think a lot of it is

0:19:14 > 0:19:21mental but in terms of the manager, in terms in the media, how he's

0:19:21 > 0:19:24speaking, you look from season to this season, it does seem a little

0:19:24 > 0:19:29unsettled in the way he's speaking. He seems more guarded than he was

0:19:29 > 0:19:32last season. There the pressure of being champions and defending your

0:19:32 > 0:19:37title and at Chelsea they'll always be that pressure, but I think just

0:19:37 > 0:19:40that unsettling feeling seems to have transferred a bit into the

0:19:40 > 0:19:43players and in the confident side of it and into the games and

0:19:43 > 0:19:48performances.When you are a manager under pressure, is it hard not to

0:19:48 > 0:19:52become a bit defensive? You've been in that situation your self. Do you

0:19:52 > 0:19:56try to hide that from the players? Try to talk openly about it with the

0:19:56 > 0:20:00players but I cant you cope? With the players, every manager is

0:20:00 > 0:20:05different. In situations like that, from my experiences, be open with

0:20:05 > 0:20:08the players. Football is football at the end of the day. Whatever happens

0:20:08 > 0:20:12outside the training ground or the match or whatever it is, the job is

0:20:12 > 0:20:15exactly the same. You try to keep that balance. The way I dealt with

0:20:15 > 0:20:19it was to be very open with them. Not talking about that situation or

0:20:19 > 0:20:23what they hear in the press, but about what the job isn't we're doing

0:20:23 > 0:20:27together and create more of that siege mentality and really try to

0:20:27 > 0:20:32use that as motivation to prove a point. There are issues obviously,

0:20:32 > 0:20:36Kevin. Champions last season. Look at who they try to bring in to

0:20:36 > 0:20:42upgrade. Those summer signings. Supper cost, Drinkwater, cameo role.

0:20:42 > 0:20:48Are they better from those recruits than what you saw last season?Know

0:20:48 > 0:20:52and when you look at Chelsea last season, it was a settled side. You

0:20:52 > 0:20:57can't underestimate the impact that had on the squad and how the

0:20:57 > 0:21:06difficulty...The red card against Watford.. And he hasn't worked out

0:21:06 > 0:21:14for them, Bakayoko. In goal, Kante could continue to use his attributes

0:21:14 > 0:21:17around the pit. They always had an ace and they don't have that.

0:21:17 > 0:21:21Warning sign that I felt were there towards the back end of the season

0:21:21 > 0:21:24with Kante's demeanour, the way he was Dobby, that's came across in the

0:21:24 > 0:21:30summertime and that's has taken over this season.Eight macro managers in

0:21:30 > 0:21:34the last six years have left the club after playing West Bromwich top

0:21:34 > 0:21:39two Chelsea managers in that! Want to watch out for on Monday.

0:21:39 > 0:21:41Winning the title and then sacking the manager

0:21:41 > 0:21:43the very next season - Leicester fans will

0:21:43 > 0:21:44remember it well.

0:21:44 > 0:21:46The Foxes face Manchester City today.

0:21:46 > 0:21:49Riyad Mahrez returned to training this week and Rachel Stringer had no

0:21:49 > 0:21:56difficulty tracking down Kasper Schmeichel.

0:22:09 > 0:22:12Only five losses since he took over. Eight in the Premier League table

0:22:12 > 0:22:16and through to the fifth round of the FA Cup. Things are going pretty

0:22:16 > 0:22:20well.His obvious change the style of play, change the formation. A lot

0:22:20 > 0:22:25of his thinking was that we had potential going forward but we went

0:22:25 > 0:22:30for the killer pass probably to early. We didn't probably take as

0:22:30 > 0:22:35much care as we could do. He's encouraging us to take a pass extra

0:22:35 > 0:22:39sometimes to open up the space and will probably find a more accurate

0:22:39 > 0:22:44pass. It's been positive, a good experience. Whether playing from the

0:22:44 > 0:22:52back a bit more now. He's testing others and challenging others. He's

0:22:52 > 0:22:58a quiet guy who kind of gets on with the job on the pitch. He's very

0:22:58 > 0:23:03vocal. He talks a lot individually to players, he's multilingual so he

0:23:03 > 0:23:07can deliver his message in different Leggett is to players who maybe

0:23:07 > 0:23:11understand it better in their own language. When he's not happy, we're

0:23:11 > 0:23:14left in no doubt that he's not happy. His demeanour and way

0:23:14 > 0:23:18speaking is obviously a very calm way and it is good because it

0:23:18 > 0:23:24influences the team to play more calmly. You haven't taken him out

0:23:24 > 0:23:30for a party or a dinner was Tremarco welcomed him?We have a dinner. It

0:23:30 > 0:23:33was nice. He saw a different side to the players, which was good. He's so

0:23:33 > 0:23:37the players and how they are outside the football club. You have your

0:23:37 > 0:23:43work face and your private face. I think it was good for him to see, he

0:23:43 > 0:23:49enjoyed it. We saw a different side to him.I saw recently, a couple of

0:23:49 > 0:23:57weeks ago, you put on Instagram, using the best tekkers in the club.

0:23:57 > 0:24:03Undoubtedly, definitely. There's a few that will try to take the

0:24:03 > 0:24:06mantle, but I try and it's something I've always done, I've always

0:24:06 > 0:24:13enjoyed the banter and the little to touch games. That time it was only

0:24:13 > 0:24:17two us, but usually there is seven or eight involved in a little circle

0:24:17 > 0:24:25in the dressing room and it's good fun. When I was young, football was

0:24:25 > 0:24:34something I enjoyed, but I kind of went off it a little bit. The circus

0:24:34 > 0:24:38that surrounds it, all these things, that kind of got too much. We

0:24:38 > 0:24:44couldn't really go anywhere as a family without it being a bit crazy.

0:24:44 > 0:24:49As a youngster, that was a point where it may be got too much. As I

0:24:49 > 0:24:53got older, I kind of understood the... Around the game and a bit

0:24:53 > 0:24:57more. I don't know, but I think my love of football just kind of took

0:24:57 > 0:25:01over and I was like, well, that's what I wanted to do, I want to play

0:25:01 > 0:25:04football and I have to accept and learn how to deal with the

0:25:04 > 0:25:08surrounding world.Up against Manchester City this weekend. A club

0:25:08 > 0:25:12where you started your career. It was a club I was at for eight years

0:25:12 > 0:25:19and it was a club that helped me in so many ways. It's always nice to go

0:25:19 > 0:25:23back and it's going to be tough, I think. It's going to be a very tough

0:25:23 > 0:25:29game. But we won there before and we go there with confidence.

0:25:29 > 0:25:36He's always been a good talker. Claude Puel, when he came, fans were

0:25:36 > 0:25:40particularly happy. That often happens. With Schmeichel, they're

0:25:40 > 0:25:43playing real tribute with the way he's gone in there, micromanaged

0:25:43 > 0:25:46various areas and generally difference to the way they play.

0:25:46 > 0:25:49Quietly and assured is the way he comes across. The way they're

0:25:49 > 0:25:53playing, we were talking before, it's exciting to watch them at the

0:25:53 > 0:25:56moment. They've got a slight difference change to just been

0:25:56 > 0:26:02counterattacking and that directness to Vardy. Obviously from the players

0:26:02 > 0:26:06and listening to them, they're enjoying that, as well. The way he's

0:26:06 > 0:26:11managing them. Credit to them. The interview was done before Riyad

0:26:11 > 0:26:21Mahrez return. A statement from the man himself.

0:26:25 > 0:26:30They take on Manchester City, which is of course still macro team hoping

0:26:30 > 0:26:34to buy him and this issue in the first place. Coming back into a team

0:26:34 > 0:26:38like that, do you think players will just laugh about it, have fun in the

0:26:38 > 0:26:41dressing room and get on with it?I think that's what'll happen. The

0:26:41 > 0:26:44problem will be more for the manager and how he's trying to integrate him

0:26:44 > 0:26:49back into the pitch himself. In general, the dressing room, unless

0:26:49 > 0:26:52there's a problem personally was two players, I can't see any issues at

0:26:52 > 0:26:57all I think you'll be fine. I think for him, after it fell through, the

0:26:57 > 0:27:00magister city made, it was important for him to get back on the training

0:27:00 > 0:27:03ground. He hasn't necessarily have that training ground time yet, but

0:27:03 > 0:27:06once that comes around in the next couple of weeks, you'll be fine. He

0:27:06 > 0:27:10has to show that consistent form. With regards to Manchester City, we

0:27:10 > 0:27:13were talking about diving earlier. This story is doing the rounds this

0:27:13 > 0:27:22weekend. This is about Manchester City have sought sent nine

0:27:22 > 0:27:24challenges to the referees Association and what they're trying

0:27:24 > 0:27:28to say is, we're now looking at diving retrospectively in other

0:27:28 > 0:27:31areas of the game and they think all those challenges they've mentioned,

0:27:31 > 0:27:35which were yellow card challenges, should retrospectively have the

0:27:35 > 0:27:39ability to be turned into red card challenges. Now, I see the face on

0:27:39 > 0:27:42both of you. Is this a can of worms that shouldn't be opened, or do they

0:27:42 > 0:27:48have a point?They definitely have a point, but I think you'll find...

0:27:48 > 0:27:52That's open to every single team, the amount or volume of coming into

0:27:52 > 0:27:55the guys after a game at the weekend, it'd be impossible to do. I

0:27:55 > 0:27:58understand his point but I don't think that's really going to be a

0:27:58 > 0:28:04feasible thing to do.How many times do we get this that's challenges on

0:28:04 > 0:28:07this time? They look bad in the still pitch or in slow motion.

0:28:07 > 0:28:12There's no malice the majority of times players are going for a

0:28:12 > 0:28:14challenge. It's innocent hobby you want to win the ball, help your

0:28:14 > 0:28:19site. If you look at every sort of challenge back, I don't see this

0:28:19 > 0:28:25carrying.The video analysis man will spend Monday, Tuesday,

0:28:25 > 0:28:29Wednesday looking at them.Exactly and we are talking at the eight are

0:28:29 > 0:28:34inside of the game itself. By and large, it has been right up to now.

0:28:34 > 0:28:39It's not perfect, but in general, it's right will stop all of a

0:28:39 > 0:28:42sudden, this incident will have to be checked and this incident, and I

0:28:42 > 0:28:46don't agree. I'd rather keep the game as it is.We have to be

0:28:46 > 0:28:50careful. We don't want tackling and physical contact to go. Well, I

0:28:50 > 0:28:54don't comment at obbligato the game. It makes the game, as well. The

0:28:54 > 0:28:58serious challenges and dangerous ones, of course. Being a former

0:28:58 > 0:29:01defender, it's actually an art to defend and make tackles in certain

0:29:01 > 0:29:05ways. I think if we take that completely out of the game, this is

0:29:05 > 0:29:08the way it seems to be progressing, we have to be very careful with what

0:29:08 > 0:29:11we choose to do.

0:29:11 > 0:29:13Mahrez was the Player of the Year two seasons ago.

0:29:13 > 0:29:16This man has to be high in the voting this time around.

0:29:16 > 0:29:18Another two for Mo Salah last weekend against

0:29:18 > 0:29:26Tottenham - he's red hot.

0:29:26 > 0:29:30# The strong, the mighty # The forces of evil can never

0:29:30 > 0:29:34destroy... COMMENTATOR: Does he go for it? He

0:29:34 > 0:29:43does! He scores! He's Mohammed Salam. Sala is there and he scores.

0:29:43 > 0:30:00-- Salah. Devastating!Salah hasn't scored for Liverpool!

0:30:00 > 0:30:04scored for Liverpool! First touch of a Salah and brilliant. Mo Salah is

0:30:04 > 0:30:13amongst the goals yet again! How, oh how, did Mohammed Salah do that?

0:30:13 > 0:30:17Wink-macro quite a few people wondering.

0:30:19 > 0:30:25From the point of view of a manager, I will try to get round to it! How

0:30:25 > 0:30:34do you stop somebody like this? Goal number 20 and 21 of the season.Very

0:30:34 > 0:30:36difficult, he is playing with confidence and his movement is

0:30:36 > 0:30:43excellent. The shot in the arm for Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp, the

0:30:43 > 0:30:47recruitment of it, you are buying a player, you know what he is capable

0:30:47 > 0:30:51of but the excitement is the potential. I think they did not

0:30:51 > 0:30:56expect him to fulfil it so quickly come to the club, showing these

0:30:56 > 0:30:59things, finishing and movement and technique. The thing that impresses

0:30:59 > 0:31:05me is his physicality, he can handle the ball against physical players.

0:31:05 > 0:31:13He has the whole package. It is difficult, he will shift onto his

0:31:13 > 0:31:18right foot, predominantly left footed but as a defender when you

0:31:18 > 0:31:23are square up against him, it is which way you show him. Vertonghen

0:31:23 > 0:31:28was almost anticipating he would go to his left but he goes inside and

0:31:28 > 0:31:32it is how quickly he recognises the situation and a goal-scoring chance.

0:31:32 > 0:31:37Virgil van Dijk going back to St Mary's for the first time since

0:31:37 > 0:31:40moving to Liverpool. Since scoring this goal against Everton on his

0:31:40 > 0:31:44debut in the cup it has been two defeat and a draw for Liverpool and

0:31:44 > 0:31:50they have conceded six goals. He came in at a huge sonic lot of

0:31:50 > 0:31:55money, it shows you that there an issue which just not one man can

0:31:55 > 0:32:01address -- a huge signing.He is a fantastic defender and he will be a

0:32:01 > 0:32:06huge asset for Liverpool also be has every attribute and leadership in

0:32:06 > 0:32:10that position like we were talking about earlier. It is a matter of

0:32:10 > 0:32:14time they get the relationships right, whoever his partner is, if

0:32:14 > 0:32:20they bring someone in in the summer, to form that relationship as a back

0:32:20 > 0:32:25four.For about 75 minutes last week it looked excellent with him

0:32:25 > 0:32:30alongside Lovren but when they went to five at the back and Spurs put

0:32:30 > 0:32:35them under pressure, they fell apart. That is what has to be

0:32:35 > 0:32:41addressed. Conceding one and it is a glut of goals.A quick word on

0:32:41 > 0:32:44Southampton, that win against West Brom was their first since the end

0:32:44 > 0:32:49of November and they needed it, a long time without three points. You

0:32:49 > 0:32:54looked at the game, and the same today, so many intriguing games at

0:32:54 > 0:32:59the bottom and when they went one down against West Brom, it was the

0:32:59 > 0:33:03bounce back they needed. Because Pellegrino was under serious

0:33:03 > 0:33:07pressure, we looked at that, if they could get some respond and they did

0:33:07 > 0:33:11last weekend and the manner as well with three goals, that is to take

0:33:11 > 0:33:16them forward. And talking about taking them forward, it took them

0:33:16 > 0:33:22outside of the bottom three, now in 15th place with 26 points but it is

0:33:22 > 0:33:34incredibly tight down there. No team is really falling away.

0:33:34 > 0:33:35And nearly all the teams

0:33:35 > 0:33:38who've sacked their managers this season are picking up more points

0:33:38 > 0:33:39per game under their new leaders.

0:33:39 > 0:33:42It just hasn't gone for Frank de Boer.Crystal Palace have their

0:33:42 > 0:33:47first goal of the season!Claude Puel has made pretty much the

0:33:47 > 0:33:55perfect start.Jamie Vardy! Spectacular!Ronald Koeman is a

0:33:55 > 0:34:05manager under pressure.Sensational goal, Everton 2-1 Swansea.David

0:34:05 > 0:34:10Moyes has made such a difference to West Ham.West Ham United ahead

0:34:10 > 0:34:18against Chelsea!Things are looking a little bleak for Paul Clement.

0:34:18 > 0:34:22Successive victories against Liverpool and Arsenal and this man

0:34:22 > 0:34:28has simply transformed them.The feel-good factor returns to the bet

0:34:28 > 0:34:36365 Stadium. What a brilliant goal and the Paul Lambert era is up and

0:34:36 > 0:34:41running.Only one win in 11 games and Silva has a lot to think about.

0:34:41 > 0:34:48That is an absolute cracker from Roberto Pereyra! The points are

0:34:48 > 0:34:57Watford's.The bounce has not been there so far. That is wide from

0:34:57 > 0:35:00Rondon and what a miss.

0:35:00 > 0:35:06Only West Brom other team who have not had the pick under Alan Pardew

0:35:06 > 0:35:11but I suppose that is why teams change managers. But it is so tight

0:35:11 > 0:35:18and so much pressure on so many teams. It is unbelievably tight. Any

0:35:18 > 0:35:23of those teams in that situation, the pressure and the importance of

0:35:23 > 0:35:26every game will get heightened. It is pretty much the team who can

0:35:26 > 0:35:31handle the pressure and keep the confidence, even if they have

0:35:31 > 0:35:36disappointments in between them that they can maintain the confidence and

0:35:36 > 0:35:42get enough points. You look at the home form always, but in that

0:35:42 > 0:35:46position, playing at home can be pressure. You don't have the luxury

0:35:46 > 0:35:50of being able to sit in and soak up pressure, you're constantly under

0:35:50 > 0:35:56pressure from supporters to attack teams. That is why it might be best

0:35:56 > 0:36:01going away from home and grinding out results.West Ham have a big

0:36:01 > 0:36:05game against Watford and I'm sure you will have seen that we separate

0:36:05 > 0:36:18-- Patrice Evra. This was his launch video.

0:36:25 > 0:36:32I'm for ever blowing bubbles! I love this game! Come on you irons!I love

0:36:32 > 0:36:41that! 36 years old, Zabaleta on the other side is 33, almost 70 years

0:36:41 > 0:36:45between the full-backs.It is what he can bring. Aaron Cresswell will

0:36:45 > 0:36:48be looking at him, how he has conducted himself from a

0:36:48 > 0:36:53professional point of view, it is for players to look up to and it is

0:36:53 > 0:36:54a shrewd signing from David Moyes.

0:36:54 > 0:36:58Let's go to a match featuring two of the teams who have changed

0:36:58 > 0:37:02managers, and brought in two former England bosses to boot.

0:37:02 > 0:37:04Everton against Crystal Palace at Goodison Park and John Motson

0:37:04 > 0:37:08is there for Match of the Day today.

0:37:08 > 0:37:10Lovely to have you on the programme.

0:37:10 > 0:37:12Sam Allardyce said Everton were pathetic in their last game.

0:37:12 > 0:37:17They have to improve.

0:37:17 > 0:37:21Yes, he had calmed down by the time I spoke to him this morning, talking

0:37:21 > 0:37:25about the second-half performance at Arsenal being better than the first

0:37:25 > 0:37:30and he called their current run a blip. It is that it is going on a

0:37:30 > 0:37:35long time, only one win in nine games for effort and and the

0:37:35 > 0:37:40worrying thing is 15 goals conceded in six games which has not been good

0:37:40 > 0:37:44for Jordan Pickford apart from anybody else. What Allardyce has

0:37:44 > 0:37:48said is that Everton will only get a respectable position in the league

0:37:48 > 0:37:53if their home form goes the way it should. Very important for them to

0:37:53 > 0:37:59collect three points at home today. And from the Crystal Palace point of

0:37:59 > 0:38:04view, it is almost an entire first-team out injured?Yes, you're

0:38:04 > 0:38:08right, I counted them last night and they are missing ten players and the

0:38:08 > 0:38:13most important is Wilfried Zaha who looks like being out for between

0:38:13 > 0:38:17four and six weeks which will be a real blow. They started the season

0:38:17 > 0:38:22very poorly when he was also injured. Since Roy Hodgson took

0:38:22 > 0:38:28over, the great improvement, only losing two games in the last 15 and

0:38:28 > 0:38:31both of them were to Arsenal but they now have to make sure they

0:38:31 > 0:38:36don't drop back into that danger area. One player who can help them

0:38:36 > 0:38:43is Christian Benteke 17 league goals last season but this season only

0:38:43 > 0:38:50two.We do love a statistic. Great to talk to you. More from John on

0:38:50 > 0:38:53final score. It might be his last game at Goodison, his first ever

0:38:53 > 0:38:59radio commentary was at Goodison Park in 1969! Still going strong 48

0:38:59 > 0:39:06years later. Someone is jabbing that you played in that game! That is

0:39:06 > 0:39:08unfair, from the producer!

0:39:08 > 0:39:12Could be an interesting handshake between Allardyce and Hodgson.

0:39:12 > 0:39:15Hodgson saying yesterday that they used to be good friends -

0:39:15 > 0:39:18that was before the recorded conversation with Big Sam.

0:39:18 > 0:39:21That did not go down too well.

0:39:21 > 0:39:24Another team who've had a real bounce under a new manager

0:39:24 > 0:39:27are Swansea, and they were one of the teams in action in fourth

0:39:27 > 0:39:30round replays this week.

0:39:38 > 0:39:47Advanced ball, he sit down and he turns and shoots!

0:39:48 > 0:39:51turns and shoots! It is across the face and a great save by Stockdale

0:39:51 > 0:39:59and it has gone in! Malone gets away from his man and it is headed home

0:39:59 > 0:40:06and it is 2-1. The ball through the middle, Roberts does want to get on

0:40:06 > 0:40:13with it and comments on the ground and Van La Parra surely settles it.

0:40:13 > 0:40:20-- tom Ince on the ground. Some danger here. That is a terrific

0:40:20 > 0:40:23finish from Tom Ince and it is Huddersfield who will host

0:40:23 > 0:40:29Manchester United a week on Saturday.

0:40:31 > 0:40:43This is a good run, Tammy Abraham, 1-0! Lovely ball in to Nathan Dyer

0:40:43 > 0:40:52and that is a lovely finish. Here is Narsingh and that is a good effort

0:40:52 > 0:40:56and that is the third.

0:40:56 > 0:41:03He stretches for it and Noor Husin has brought Notts County back into

0:41:03 > 0:41:09some sort of contention.

0:41:09 > 0:41:16Abraham, pushed back to him and that is a very good goal. Carroll, the

0:41:16 > 0:41:23keeper got there but poorly and it is slammed back in by Kyle Naughton.

0:41:23 > 0:41:28That is through to Nathan Dyer, Routledge sidesteps through and

0:41:28 > 0:41:39scores the sixth. Carroll with the give and go. That is a lovely goal!

0:41:39 > 0:41:48Narsingh with the cross and what a very good goal. They have beaten

0:41:48 > 0:41:52Notts County 8-1.

0:41:52 > 0:41:55One of those games, I know you did that for the BBC that everything

0:41:55 > 0:42:01that Swansea hit went in. It is not like they have improved incredibly

0:42:01 > 0:42:06with number of shots but far more clinical now.For sure and that is

0:42:06 > 0:42:13the biggest factor with Carlos. They become more energetic with more

0:42:13 > 0:42:16intensity in how they are defending, you look against the Arsenal and

0:42:16 > 0:42:20Liverpool games, there was a real feeling that they were getting

0:42:20 > 0:42:24amongst them physically and in terms of the shots, I don't think they

0:42:24 > 0:42:29have changed the amount, just more clinical. You talk about the

0:42:29 > 0:42:36defending, you have looked at Alfie Mawson. Talking about goals being

0:42:36 > 0:42:41crucial but sometimes defensively, you can save a goal.In general they

0:42:41 > 0:42:47have been a lot more clinical. But at the top of the screen as he comes

0:42:47 > 0:42:55into picture, what is happening with them, you can see Alfie Mawson right

0:42:55 > 0:43:01in the middle in here.

0:43:01 > 0:43:06in the middle in here. You are as bad as I am!But in general with

0:43:06 > 0:43:13Alfie Mawson, we spoke about them being clinical but he has stepped up

0:43:13 > 0:43:20and is having an excellent season. This block, you can see his

0:43:20 > 0:43:25reaction, these are goal saving. It was a certain goal and that was an

0:43:25 > 0:43:30unbelievable challenge. You would appreciate that, Garry. He is having

0:43:30 > 0:43:36a good season. They look so much more solid defensively. And what I

0:43:36 > 0:43:42like about him, it has been highlighted, some of his mistakes,

0:43:42 > 0:43:47but it does not seem to faze him. I know that they like him at the club,

0:43:47 > 0:43:53still very young with huge potential, and it is a great signing

0:43:53 > 0:43:58for Swansea. And going back to that leadership qualities, speaking to

0:43:58 > 0:44:02players who are still there, he had that and I think they look at him as

0:44:02 > 0:44:06a future captain.Looking back at your time there, when you became

0:44:06 > 0:44:11permanent boss after being caretaker, you won five games on the

0:44:11 > 0:44:16trot over two seasons, the owners have said that they have made some

0:44:16 > 0:44:19poor transfer decisions, nobody gets it right all the time. They said

0:44:19 > 0:44:24that record has been mixed and last summer was not very good. Do you

0:44:24 > 0:44:28think they are still on the right track to maintain their Premier

0:44:28 > 0:44:32League future with a system that worked well for a long time?They

0:44:32 > 0:44:36have given themselves a great chance to maintain it this season with

0:44:36 > 0:44:41Carlos, still a lot of work to do. But obviously I thought the

0:44:41 > 0:44:43disappointment and the last couple of seasons have been difficult. I

0:44:43 > 0:44:48think the club has enough to keep progressing, I think that side of it

0:44:48 > 0:44:52needs to be looked at and they will, but with new owners and the

0:44:52 > 0:44:56transition period, they have their ideas and there are ideas from

0:44:56 > 0:44:59before and it is making sure that they are on the right path to

0:44:59 > 0:45:04maintain it.And stayed in the Premier League which is crucial, and

0:45:04 > 0:45:10be up to in result has helped that.

0:45:10 > 0:45:14You left Middlesbrough just before Christmas, they were in ninth place

0:45:14 > 0:45:20when you left and they are still there. How do you look back on it?

0:45:20 > 0:45:24You go in with an expectation, every manager, not knowing how long you

0:45:24 > 0:45:30will be there but trying to do the best job.Of course. The pressure on

0:45:30 > 0:45:33managers now in terms of owners investing and wanting instant

0:45:33 > 0:45:40success, I have always said, it is best to judge a manager when he has

0:45:40 > 0:45:43had one season minimum, that is the time to judge him because it is hard

0:45:43 > 0:45:49to go in and have the full product in two or three weeks but the

0:45:49 > 0:45:52Championship is very close. It is a war of attrition at times and a long

0:45:52 > 0:45:57season but from the table, up to second place is up for grabs with a

0:45:57 > 0:46:00lot of the season to play. How long have you given yourself before you

0:46:00 > 0:46:07go back in?I'm ready to go. I love this job, I have gained a lot of

0:46:07 > 0:46:10experience in the four years and I'm ready to go but it has to be the

0:46:10 > 0:46:13right opportunity where you feel you can go in and effect it well with

0:46:13 > 0:46:18your work and you know you can get them doing well. The

0:46:19 > 0:46:24feel we're -- does it feel weird being here?!It does! But you don't

0:46:24 > 0:46:29often get the chance to do this.He is sick of you already! But it is

0:46:29 > 0:46:33obviously about using this period and then getting out and doing some

0:46:33 > 0:46:36of the things you can't do when you're managing but the main thing

0:46:36 > 0:46:41is to get back in.A nice debut so far, we would love to have you again

0:46:41 > 0:46:44if you don't get a job quickly!

0:46:44 > 0:46:47We're also into the knock-out stages of the Champions League next week,

0:46:47 > 0:46:49with Tottenham away to Juventus - where they will face their German

0:46:49 > 0:46:50midfield star Sami Khedira.

0:46:50 > 0:46:53The former Real Madrid man has been talking to our very

0:46:53 > 0:46:56own Juliette Ferrington.

0:47:01 > 0:47:08After Madrid it wasn't easy to find a new challenge. It was five years

0:47:08 > 0:47:16and it was an amazing time. I decided to go to Italy. I'm fit and

0:47:16 > 0:47:23happy to join Juventus Stadium. How do you stay motivated, looking for

0:47:23 > 0:47:27that new challenge, the fresh motivation?I'm still young, I want

0:47:27 > 0:47:32to win more things in my career and with Juventus Stadium we didn't win

0:47:32 > 0:47:36the Champions League so there are many challenges. Two finals, you

0:47:36 > 0:47:40have to be strong contenders this time around, as well.Yeah, but it's

0:47:40 > 0:47:46not easy in the Champions League. There are many teams that are

0:47:46 > 0:47:49getting stronger. Now in March, April, May, this is the most

0:47:49 > 0:47:54important part of the season. If we are in a good way, if we take care

0:47:54 > 0:47:59of that, we have the possibility. Are you in a good way right now?We

0:47:59 > 0:48:04are not 100% but we're playing with more confidence, more balance, so we

0:48:04 > 0:48:11have to continue that, especially now with this important game, the

0:48:11 > 0:48:14Champions League game against Tottenham. For me it's one of the

0:48:14 > 0:48:18worst. I watched them a lot, even this year, and I watched them

0:48:18 > 0:48:21against Liverpool and Arsenal and they are strong, but they are still

0:48:21 > 0:48:28young. We have to be super focused because it's one of the best teams

0:48:28 > 0:48:39in Europe and England..Harry Kane is made before me the best striker.

0:48:39 > 0:48:44-- maybe for me. He's strong. He's good with the head, he's fast, good

0:48:44 > 0:48:49with the feed. He can score with one touch, you can dribble. For me, he's

0:48:49 > 0:48:53an amazing player and still young. Tottenham is lucky to have him.

0:48:53 > 0:48:57You've been linked in the past with moves to the Premier League. It's

0:48:57 > 0:49:01never happened.I'm always looking for new challenges, so that's why I

0:49:01 > 0:49:09left three years ago Real Madrid. If in the future Juventus Stadium not

0:49:09 > 0:49:12happy with me any more and I have the possibility to play the Premier

0:49:12 > 0:49:16League, of course I will never say no because this will be one of the

0:49:16 > 0:49:20most difficult challenges may be to play in the Premier League and to

0:49:20 > 0:49:24win the Premier League.Spare a thought for Sami Khedira, injured in

0:49:24 > 0:49:31the pre-match warm up.Your World Cup winner didn't quite go to plan

0:49:31 > 0:49:36for you, in that World Cup final four years ago.It was not easy to

0:49:36 > 0:49:40say that I'm out for the game because maybe I can risk, but by the

0:49:40 > 0:49:47end I was not 100% fit. You have to be always honest to your team-mates

0:49:47 > 0:49:52because it's not just a game, it's the World Cup final, so you need to

0:49:52 > 0:49:55play 100% fit on the pitch. The success of the team is the most

0:49:55 > 0:50:02important. At the end we won and I was the happiest person after the

0:50:02 > 0:50:07final.The pressure going into this World Cup for Germany...Of course,

0:50:07 > 0:50:11we say we want to win the World Cup otherwise we could stay at home and

0:50:11 > 0:50:15go on holiday and stay on the beach and relax. To win the World Cup for

0:50:15 > 0:50:21Germany, it's not a personal thing. I wake up to play the big games like

0:50:21 > 0:50:25the Champions League final, like the World Cup final, of course. This is

0:50:25 > 0:50:33a dream for everybody but it's never happened that's someone has won the

0:50:33 > 0:50:40World Cup twice in a row.He is so confident, isn't he, about what he

0:50:40 > 0:50:45can achieve with club and country. Juventus Stadium really playing some

0:50:45 > 0:50:50good stuff. You've seen them recently because you're covering the

0:50:50 > 0:50:54Spurs game. Defensively... Masterclass at the moment? One goal

0:50:54 > 0:50:59in 16 games they conceded. Bouffant played his 500th game for them last

0:50:59 > 0:51:05night. It's almost 50% clean sheets he's had since he played for Japan

0:51:05 > 0:51:09to this. The team in general are playing so solidly. There are

0:51:09 > 0:51:16excellent from an attacking point of view. Without wanting to worry Spurs

0:51:16 > 0:51:21too much...They say they worry about Spurs but there are real

0:51:21 > 0:51:26propositions.You look at what they did last season. 3-0 up against

0:51:26 > 0:51:30Barcelona and they went to Barcelona and shut up shop. They stopped any

0:51:30 > 0:51:34sort of attack going forward. That's the worry for Spurs going into these

0:51:34 > 0:51:38two legs. Spurs have the players to hurt them.We have the fixtures

0:51:38 > 0:51:40there for next week and then Chelsea and Manchester United play the

0:51:40 > 0:51:47following week. You can make a case that there's five English sides in

0:51:47 > 0:51:51that last 16. You can make a case for a good season in the Champions

0:51:51 > 0:51:56League.Very interesting and of course the English clubs... I think

0:51:56 > 0:51:59it's from both camps. From the English side, they'll be looking at

0:51:59 > 0:52:02a chance to progress. As a couple of difficult ones in there but this is

0:52:02 > 0:52:07the exciting bit, the knockout stages. I believe the English clubs,

0:52:07 > 0:52:10they'll be a good few will progress to the next round and from there,

0:52:10 > 0:52:14the business end, anything can happen. Is is an exciting part of

0:52:14 > 0:52:16the season.

0:52:16 > 0:52:19You can listen to that Tottenham match on 5 Live on Tuesday

0:52:19 > 0:52:21night and the Liverpool match on Wednesday.

0:52:21 > 0:52:23Before that, Final Score is on BBC One this afternoon

0:52:23 > 0:52:26at 4.30pm, Match Of The Day is at 10.30pm tonight

0:52:26 > 0:52:29and a three-game Match Of The Day 2 is at 10.30 on BBC One tomorrow

0:52:29 > 0:52:30night.

0:52:30 > 0:52:34The FA Cup fifth round in England is next weekend of course.

0:52:34 > 0:52:36The Scottish Cup fifth round is under way this weekend.

0:52:36 > 0:52:38The Highland League team of Brora Rangers take on Kilmarnock

0:52:38 > 0:52:40of the Scottish Premiership, having already clocked

0:52:40 > 0:52:42up some 2,000 miles on their travels to get this far.

0:52:42 > 0:52:50Rob Maclean went to see the part-timers.

0:52:54 > 0:52:58Have you ever thought about how much mileage you've clocked up?Not

0:52:58 > 0:53:06really. I couldn't answer that one. I'm sure it's quite a lot, yes!

0:53:09 > 0:53:17I think over 2000 miles we've done, give or take.

0:53:17 > 0:53:20give or take.That's probably some sort of record.Number 12 is killed

0:53:20 > 0:53:25one!The ball is not been terribly favourable to us.

0:53:25 > 0:53:27one!The ball is not been terribly favourable to us. They are a top six

0:53:27 > 0:53:31Premier League team now. We don't go there under any illusions. This will

0:53:31 > 0:53:36be an extraordinarily difficult game where we will be huge underdogs. Is

0:53:36 > 0:53:38probably around further than I thought we get. The chairman asked

0:53:38 > 0:53:43me to get the team into the Scottish Cup, the next round, after Christmas

0:53:43 > 0:53:49and we're still here. We play in February. How would you describe the

0:53:49 > 0:53:51degree of excitement? It's galvanised the team and the

0:53:51 > 0:53:56community. Everyone is talking about the long distances we've travelled

0:53:56 > 0:54:02but it's brought us altogether.How much is it buzzing in Brora?The

0:54:02 > 0:54:06town, the village, I don't think they'll be anybody left, Saturday.

0:54:06 > 0:54:10Were all prepared for this game, even those of us but don't like

0:54:10 > 0:54:13football! We're delighted with the team and what they've done this

0:54:13 > 0:54:20year. We are all behind them. It's not just a day out for me and the

0:54:20 > 0:54:23players, were going to put on a right performance. Everybody saying

0:54:23 > 0:54:26have a good day out, but for me I want the players to play their best

0:54:26 > 0:54:31and give it 100%.Another thing you have to remind yourself is that a

0:54:31 > 0:54:36lot of players behind you are juggling with their jobs.I feel

0:54:36 > 0:54:40like a social worker at times. Boys have families and two boys that

0:54:40 > 0:54:42travelled down from Orkney on a Friday night for the game on

0:54:42 > 0:54:45Saturday and go home on Sunday. Their commitments makes it

0:54:45 > 0:54:49successful.Training twice a week and working nine to five, then

0:54:49 > 0:54:54you've got to leave home and straight down from training for two

0:54:54 > 0:55:00hours and not getting home until ten or 11pm some nights, Monday to

0:55:00 > 0:55:04Wednesday a specially.Into the life of a part-time footballer. It's not

0:55:04 > 0:55:08alien to us, were all used to it. Saturdays are as likely -- Saturday

0:55:08 > 0:55:11is a slightly different occasion so hopefully we can prepare for it and

0:55:11 > 0:55:18put in a good performance.Does this week bring back the infidel

0:55:18 > 0:55:24Caledonian Thistle win with Zionism is Blair. It maybe wasn't until a

0:55:24 > 0:55:33few days that we realised. COMMENTATOR: Will Inverness score

0:55:33 > 0:55:37here? They do! Celtic have stumbled to what surely is the most

0:55:37 > 0:55:44humiliating defeat in their history. I take a lot from that experience

0:55:44 > 0:55:46but it is about making our own history. I can only help them so

0:55:46 > 0:55:51far. Once they step over the line it's up to them.Williamson! What a

0:55:51 > 0:56:00header! Brora Rovers knockout East Fife to head into the fifth round

0:56:00 > 0:56:05for the first time in their history! Nobody will expect us to do anything

0:56:05 > 0:56:08so it's a chance for us to express ourselves and see what happens. All

0:56:08 > 0:56:13the pressures on them so I look forward to it.We have to have some

0:56:13 > 0:56:21look but you never know on the day. Always travel in hope and I'm

0:56:21 > 0:56:24optimistic that we might cause a bit of an upset.

0:56:24 > 0:56:25Loved a bit of Maises Daises.

0:56:25 > 0:56:28So Brora - who set off yesterday afternoon -

0:56:28 > 0:56:34are at Kilmarnock this afternoon for the fifth round game.

0:56:34 > 0:56:40Killie beat Celtic a week ago in the league.

0:56:40 > 0:56:45There was one minutes of silent film in silence for Liam Miller. Majesty

0:56:45 > 0:56:49United have said they will do the same in their game against Newcastle

0:56:49 > 0:56:56tomorrow -- Manchester United.

0:56:56 > 0:57:07Comedian Rhys James predicted 3-0. He's

0:57:07 > 0:57:11He's taking on Lowro in the predictions.

0:57:11 > 0:57:16I support Tottenham Hotspur because I had a very privileged upbringing

0:57:16 > 0:57:20and my dad thought it would be writes to put in some hardship will

0:57:20 > 0:57:26stop I've got a cat named. He used to drive a Smart car, get the tube

0:57:26 > 0:57:31to matches. Get the bus home from after a haircut. He didn't care

0:57:31 > 0:57:35about football, you saw it as a job. I love it! Watford coming off the

0:57:35 > 0:57:39back of a good win against Chelsea, thank you very much. And obviously

0:57:39 > 0:57:44West Ham don't have any strikers except one bit so I'm going to go

0:57:44 > 0:57:492-0 to Watford.

0:57:50 > 0:57:522-0 to Watford. Liverpool Juniors versus Liverpool, dads versus lads.

0:57:52 > 0:57:56You have to fancy Liverpool to win it. Whoever scores for Southampton

0:57:56 > 0:58:02will play for Liverpool in 12 months. I think two Chelsea managers

0:58:02 > 0:58:06have been sacked after the West Brom game, so you've got to fancy it.

0:58:06 > 0:58:11Third time lucky.

0:58:14 > 0:58:16We'll see you at the Hawthorns next week.

0:58:16 > 0:58:19And we leave you with what was a stellar supply of thronkers

0:58:19 > 0:58:22and plonkers from last weekend in the Premier League.

0:58:25 > 0:58:35Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant!Oh, how did Ben Tecate not score from

0:58:35 > 0:58:36there?

0:58:42 > 0:58:44What a hit! What a hit!

0:58:49 > 0:58:50Brilliant! A brilliant goal!

0:58:55 > 0:59:05Oh, what a drive! What a thumping goal that is from Victor Wanyama!

0:59:05 > 0:59:05Raheem Sterling
