:00:14. > :00:27.It is absolutely brilliant. This is getting better and better. Cristiano

:00:28. > :00:39.Ronaldo. History boys, indeed. They have won the cup. The hat-trick. He

:00:40. > :00:40.has scored. Jamie Vardy has done it, he has done it.

:00:41. > :00:44.It's a big weekend for mums but it's also packed

:00:45. > :00:47.Reaction to last night's match in Dublin in a moment,

:00:48. > :00:52.and we also have all this to look forward to.

:00:53. > :00:59.Belgium boss Roberto Martinez on taking the lowlands to new highs.

:01:00. > :01:02.It would be stupid for us to hide the fact that this generation is

:01:03. > :01:03.special. We'll preview a big Sunday

:01:04. > :01:06.in Group F for England and Scotland. It's a happy fifth anniversary to

:01:07. > :01:17.Northern Ireland's Michael O'Neill. The first two years, I felt like I

:01:18. > :01:21.was banging my head against a wall little bit. It was a case of

:01:22. > :01:22.persevering. And Clem's been to Bradford where

:01:23. > :01:27.the Bantams are hatching big plans. John Hartson and Andy Cole already

:01:28. > :01:30.have everything sorted for Mother's Day so are free to talk

:01:31. > :01:34.football for the next 30 minutes. And we'll start with John's Wales,

:01:35. > :01:37.who drew 0-0 in Dublin last night in a game overshadowed

:01:38. > :01:53.by one incident. Neil Taylor has been sent off. Neil

:01:54. > :01:58.Taylor has been sent off for Wales for crashing into Seamus Coleman. It

:01:59. > :02:03.was certainly a bad tackle. This is bad news for Ireland. You do not

:02:04. > :02:08.want to see a situation like that. I was right by the tackle and it was a

:02:09. > :02:14.very bad tackle. It is part of the game but there is no need for attack

:02:15. > :02:20.like that. I came on, they told me to warm up. I did not cure them. I

:02:21. > :02:24.was down in shock. Seamus is gone to hospital. It has been confirmed by

:02:25. > :02:29.the doctor that he has broke his leg. He is having the season of a

:02:30. > :02:36.lifetime. He's a great captain. Neil Taylor is not that type of player.

:02:37. > :02:41.He has had a serious injury himself. He is a great boy. He is a cracking

:02:42. > :02:44.land. No player goes out on the field looking to hurt another

:02:45. > :02:49.player. There were lots of tough tackles in that game today. It is

:02:50. > :02:53.unfortunate that one ended up being a bad injury. You were there last

:02:54. > :03:00.night. We have to talk about the tackle. We can say that Neil Taylor

:03:01. > :03:02.is not that sort of way but it was a horrible moment and Seamus Coleman

:03:03. > :03:05.will be out for a long time. Yes, and our thoughts immediately go to

:03:06. > :03:13.Seamus Coleman this morning who we believe has gone for an operation.

:03:14. > :03:15.We wish him a full and speedy recovery, of course. It was a

:03:16. > :03:21.shocking challenge by Neil Taylor. He will know that himself. He has

:03:22. > :03:25.apologised to the rest of the team. Rightly so. I believe he went into

:03:26. > :03:31.the Ireland dressing room at the end of the game to apologise. His next

:03:32. > :03:35.port of call will to be get -- his next port of call will be to get in

:03:36. > :03:43.touch with Seamus. It was reckless and irresponsible. It is OK saying

:03:44. > :03:46.it was unintentional. Then Davis says himself, nobody goes on to a

:03:47. > :03:51.football field, most of the guys generally like each other. There is

:03:52. > :03:59.mutual respect in football. No one goes on to a football field with the

:04:00. > :04:03.intent of breaking someone's leg. That has actually happened. It is

:04:04. > :04:10.offal from Seamus Coleman's point of view. You feel for the boy. It is an

:04:11. > :04:14.awful tackle, I cannot defend it. There was a heightened atmosphere in

:04:15. > :04:20.the stadium. There were a few challenges. I do not want to see the

:04:21. > :04:24.wrong thing. It was a bit tasty on occasions. It was. Before that,

:04:25. > :04:31.Gareth Bale on John O'Shea. That could have been a red card. You look

:04:32. > :04:40.at midfield, Joe Allen, we learn in midfield. The referee like --

:04:41. > :04:43.Whelan. Quite a bit go. He rendered in with the sending-off, and it was

:04:44. > :04:48.a sending off. It was a bad challenge. You spoke on the radio

:04:49. > :04:52.last night about a solid defensive performance from Ireland. Work Wales

:04:53. > :04:58.disappointing, that was the side that beat Belgium in the Euros? Yes,

:04:59. > :05:05.the onus was on Wales to take the game to Ireland. The best spell was

:05:06. > :05:08.the 15 minute spell in the second half, when they change it, they went

:05:09. > :05:13.to four at the back and push Neil Taylor further forward. Two shots on

:05:14. > :05:21.target. Those were the stats that Wales had. For Ireland, they did not

:05:22. > :05:27.have to force the issue. I think a draw them would have suited them.

:05:28. > :05:31.They keep the four point gap between themselves and Wales. It was

:05:32. > :05:35.ponderous at times. Lots of the Welsh players never performed on the

:05:36. > :05:40.big occasion. When they watch the game, they will know that

:05:41. > :05:45.themselves. It puts them under pressure, Wales? Yes, especially

:05:46. > :05:50.after being so good in the Euros. Like John said, they are four points

:05:51. > :05:54.behind the Republic. They will be happy they have come away with a

:05:55. > :06:00.goalless draw, going down to ten men, but disappointed they have not

:06:01. > :06:06.won the game. Time for a man who began his managerial career in Wales

:06:07. > :06:09.with Swansea. After spells with Wigan and Everton, Roberto Martinez

:06:10. > :06:17.has moved into the international dugout with Belgium. He has been

:06:18. > :06:22.talking to Ian Hunt this week. It is good to see you. Eight months

:06:23. > :06:27.into the job as the Belgium coach. How is it going? It is a fascinating

:06:28. > :06:32.way of changing from day-to-day work that you have in the Premier League.

:06:33. > :06:38.It is almost with blinkers, it is very intense. We only come together

:06:39. > :06:45.five times in a 12 month period. Very different in that respect. How

:06:46. > :06:50.did the job, by? The Belgian FA took the unusual step of advertising it

:06:51. > :06:54.on their website? Now I have been working with the Belgian FA for

:06:55. > :07:00.eight months, that does not surprise me. They are ambitious. Everything

:07:01. > :07:05.became very good. Something that a year ago I would never have thought

:07:06. > :07:08.about the possibility, becoming an international manager. You have a

:07:09. > :07:13.big-name assistant manager working with you in Thierry Henry. What has

:07:14. > :07:17.he brought to the role? There was an instant connection when I sat down

:07:18. > :07:22.with him, the way he understands the game, the intelligence he has. He

:07:23. > :07:26.had the same experience, he was in a country with a very good generation,

:07:27. > :07:31.they had never won a major tournament before and they ended up

:07:32. > :07:37.winning the World Cup and the European Championships. His insight

:07:38. > :07:41.is vitally important for the psychology of the group. Sam Vokes.

:07:42. > :07:46.Wales are heading into the semifinal. They have taken on

:07:47. > :07:49.Belgium and they have beaten them. What did you make of the

:07:50. > :07:55.performances in France. What was missing? The format of the

:07:56. > :08:01.tournament did not help attacking football. In that format, three

:08:02. > :08:06.draws would allow you to qualify. We saw it with Portugal. The only one

:08:07. > :08:12.game in the semifinals. That golden generation tag has been used. Is

:08:13. > :08:18.that a problem, in a way? People build this team up so much, the

:08:19. > :08:24.expectations are so high? It would be stupid for us to hide the fact

:08:25. > :08:28.that this generation is special. The type of football as we have, Eden

:08:29. > :08:32.Hazard, Kevin De Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku, they are arriving at the

:08:33. > :08:36.best moment in their careers, and in -- and on top of being strong

:08:37. > :08:41.minded, the ingredients are fantastic. We need to get the

:08:42. > :08:46.psychology right. That is most important. How do you reflect on

:08:47. > :08:50.your time at Everton and Goodison Park? As a manager you go through

:08:51. > :08:56.good periods and bad periods. In the bad periods, you need the support of

:08:57. > :08:59.the club and the owners. After the first season, I had the option of

:09:00. > :09:04.leaving Everton. I never felt that was what I wanted to do. I believed

:09:05. > :09:10.in the project and wanted to stay in the long-term. When we had appeared

:09:11. > :09:16.with a change of ownership, if you do not win enough games, if you do

:09:17. > :09:21.not hit targets, that is something that could happen. At the moment,

:09:22. > :09:26.Everton have an outstanding striker in Romelu Lukaku. What is it like to

:09:27. > :09:31.be working with him? When you work with him, you understand that he

:09:32. > :09:36.lives for the game. At the age of 23, hacked -- he has the possibility

:09:37. > :09:41.of becoming the best number nine in world football. He has everything.

:09:42. > :09:46.If you get to the World Cup in Russia, what is a realistic

:09:47. > :09:50.expectation? You have to qualify first. You will get your? Now it is

:09:51. > :09:56.dangerous. When you get together with the national team, it is great

:09:57. > :10:01.to be part of that with the players. It is a good start. We will try to

:10:02. > :10:05.become as good as we can. This group of players are desperate to do well.

:10:06. > :10:10.It is a big claim about Romelu Lukaku, that he can be the best

:10:11. > :10:17.number nine in world football. Lukaku was asked about that in the

:10:18. > :10:20.press conference yesterday. Do you think he could be? He is young

:10:21. > :10:26.enough. He has lots of work to do. When you're talking about the best

:10:27. > :10:30.number nines in the world, you're looking at someone like Suarez.

:10:31. > :10:35.Lewandowski. Those are the levels you have to get to. He has power, he

:10:36. > :10:40.has got the goals. He has everything. You can bring back

:10:41. > :10:46.together. In a couple of years, he could be just that. Look at the

:10:47. > :10:49.squad that they have. Lukaku is unplayable at times. The Everton

:10:50. > :10:56.fans will tell you they would like to see him do it more consistently.

:10:57. > :11:02.20 goals plus, that has not been done since the early 1980s, 1970s,

:11:03. > :11:08.Bob Blatchford, not been done since Gary Lineker in 1985. He is breaking

:11:09. > :11:12.all types of records. You mentioned the squad. We talk about Belgium

:11:13. > :11:17.being underachievers. When you look at the quality they have, there is

:11:18. > :11:22.no Kompany or Hazard this weekend, but they should be challenging for

:11:23. > :11:28.major tournaments. They have a freakishly good squad. Amazing. They

:11:29. > :11:32.have so many world-class players. I know Roberto Martinez. He was at

:11:33. > :11:38.Swansea City. When he was asked, if you get to the World Cup in 2008 in

:11:39. > :11:44.Russia, how do you think you will fear, I think he should be saying,

:11:45. > :11:50.we can win. They are that good squad. They lost in the quarterfinal

:11:51. > :11:55.to Wales in the Euros. They did not have a good World Cup before that.

:11:56. > :11:59.Roberto Martinez has that group of players, he has lots of time to work

:12:00. > :12:04.with them. They will qualify, you should be looking to win it. We were

:12:05. > :12:07.going to show you the Belgium squad, but we will show you that yellow

:12:08. > :12:11.screen instead! Very nice. Belgium in action tonight,

:12:12. > :12:13.while tomorrow the attention returns to the home nations,

:12:14. > :12:15.with Scotland facing Slovenia Amongst the Scots' attacking options

:12:16. > :12:23.is RB Leipzig winger Oliver Burke. It is pretty much impossible to read

:12:24. > :12:27.a newspaper article about you without the phrase, Scottish Gareth

:12:28. > :12:34.Bale. It is complementary and very nice. But I think there is a long

:12:35. > :12:38.way for me to go, the way we play is similar, he is less fitted, but I am

:12:39. > :12:43.right footed. We are different players, I am Oliver Burke, he is

:12:44. > :12:48.Gareth Bale. That is how it is. As Gordon Strachan spoke to you about

:12:49. > :12:54.your role in the team? There has not been a specific conversation about

:12:55. > :12:58.how and where he wants me. It is about producing and doing the best I

:12:59. > :13:02.can do. It has not been the best of starts to the qualifying campaign

:13:03. > :13:07.for the World Cup. What is your take on it so far? We have not got the

:13:08. > :13:11.results we wanted but we have a chance. If we go into these games

:13:12. > :13:16.believing we can win and we give it everything, we have a great team, a

:13:17. > :13:20.great bunch of boys. The chemistry and the training are always very

:13:21. > :13:31.good. There is no reason we cannot take

:13:32. > :13:34.that into the matches. You just celebrated your first birthday the

:13:35. > :13:37.last time Scotland reached a major finals. What would it mean to you

:13:38. > :13:41.and Scotland to be in Russia next year? We have to win the game. There

:13:42. > :13:48.is pressure. We have to do it now. We have to see what happens. Fingers

:13:49. > :13:51.crossed. I hope we do. Mark Parry asking the questions. We have moved

:13:52. > :13:59.over to the touch screen to look at the fixtures in Group F. England

:14:00. > :14:04.playing Lithuania, Scotland playing Slovenia. One player who has shone,

:14:05. > :14:09.I know it was not a particularly impressive performance against

:14:10. > :14:14.Canada in the 1-1, but Tom Cairney is getting headlines. Playing for

:14:15. > :14:18.Fulham, he has produced in the Championship. He is having a very

:14:19. > :14:25.good season for Fulham. He is a young man, I think he is 26. He was

:14:26. > :14:30.at Blackburn as well. This season, he has taken for Fulham. An

:14:31. > :14:34.impressive 98 chances created, including assists. About 15 ahead of

:14:35. > :14:39.the next neighbours. Stuart Armstrong could make his debut

:14:40. > :14:43.tomorrow against Lavinia, part of a large Celtic contingent. He scores

:14:44. > :14:51.goals in the great area of the pitch? Yes, he has been a constant

:14:52. > :14:54.fixture for Brendan Rodgers this season. Is clever, it he does the

:14:55. > :14:59.goalkeeper with his eyes. He scores with his right foot. He can go

:15:00. > :15:03.either way, he scores in the big game. This is with his left foot

:15:04. > :15:10.against Rangers. He has deserved his call-up. This is him getting in the

:15:11. > :15:13.box. He scores a good header. He has earned his collar up and I hope he

:15:14. > :15:18.can go all the way and make his debut tomorrow. We spoke about Wales

:15:19. > :15:23.been under pressure. Gordon Strachan finds himself in that situation. If

:15:24. > :15:28.he does not get things right this week, that could be it. If you look

:15:29. > :15:31.at the last two and a half years of results in competitive games, the

:15:32. > :15:36.only teams they have beaten our Malta and Gibraltar. That will not

:15:37. > :15:39.get you to major tournament. It has been very tough for him. He does not

:15:40. > :15:43.have the quality in the national squad he would like. People say he

:15:44. > :15:48.should have won more games than he has done. You could say that, but

:15:49. > :15:53.what he has got, he has done a decent job. If you get rid of him,

:15:54. > :16:00.who do you replace him with? That is the million-dollar question.

:16:01. > :16:09.Eric Dyer has been talking in the build-up to their match with

:16:10. > :16:14.Lithuania to us. It's going to be a tough game. Internationals now,

:16:15. > :16:21.there's no really easy game, to be honest. Every team sets up to try

:16:22. > :16:24.and stop us, especially here at Wembley, so it's going to be tough.

:16:25. > :16:28.It's key to play with intensity, move the ball quickly. They'll be in

:16:29. > :16:32.the blow block in their half to try to make it difficult for us. Gareth

:16:33. > :16:36.wants to play exciting football and it's a big thing for the manager and

:16:37. > :16:40.the squad to be adaptable and to be able to play in different formations

:16:41. > :16:44.and pose different questions of the opposition. Playing in different

:16:45. > :16:47.formations and posing the questions. England have been accused of a lack

:16:48. > :16:52.of versatility and a Plan B. This was a them that took on west Germany

:16:53. > :16:58.with a back tleesmt The first time England played a back three against

:16:59. > :17:01.Croatia, which I'm sure Steve McClaren remembers well. Isn't it

:17:02. > :17:05.having that ability to do things different though? It is. But you

:17:06. > :17:10.have to find a formula, a system that is compatible for your players,

:17:11. > :17:15.and you have to stick with it. Everyone talks about 4-4-2 being

:17:16. > :17:20.dead. It's not, we saw that with Monaco the other day playing that

:17:21. > :17:26.system. What you have, you play to your best ability. The way they

:17:27. > :17:34.played worked very well. There is a bit of debate about what Gareth

:17:35. > :17:39.Southgate would do, would it be 4-3-2-1, or 4-1-4-1. But there are a

:17:40. > :17:42.couple of players out. Most are suggesting four at the back with

:17:43. > :17:46.Oxlade-Chamberlain or Lingard in there and again, that's a chance to

:17:47. > :17:51.experiment a little bit? He can experiment. That's what he's doing,

:17:52. > :18:00.three at the back against Germany, tomorrow we think he may go with

:18:01. > :18:06.four, Dier may play as the midfield holding player, Deli There as well

:18:07. > :18:09.that, is his best position, he can effect the game more, we saw him get

:18:10. > :18:13.through the other night with the great chance he had. No Harry Kane,

:18:14. > :18:16.Vardy playeded against Germany, we expect him to be upfront with

:18:17. > :18:23.Rashford and Defoe being options. What would you like to see Gareth

:18:24. > :18:29.Southgate do, Andy? We know Lithuania are going to sit up. John

:18:30. > :18:36.touched on it as well. If they're going to play like that, play Defoe.

:18:37. > :18:41.He can get shots off, he's got superb movement and it can cause

:18:42. > :18:44.problems. He probably probably will go with Vardy because Defoe wasn't

:18:45. > :18:54.involved midweek against west Germany. So it will be interesting.

:18:55. > :18:57.England's players will be wearing a black arm band for their game

:18:58. > :18:58.tomorrow as a mark of respect for what happened in London on

:18:59. > :19:01.Wednesday. Northern Ireland are also

:19:02. > :19:03.in action on Sunday, and their match with Norway marks

:19:04. > :19:16.the 5th anniversary in charge There is no format or blueprint for

:19:17. > :19:21.how you do the job. Gouk to loads of games or a few games and I think

:19:22. > :19:25.older managers maybe wouldn't do a lot of the things that I would. I

:19:26. > :19:29.feel that I'm still at a stage in my career where I'm still developing as

:19:30. > :19:34.a manager. But it's a constant challenge to try and find players

:19:35. > :19:38.and try to monitor young players and hopefully see our young players

:19:39. > :19:42.develop. It concerns me because we don't have a huge flow of talent

:19:43. > :19:45.coming through. For our younger players, it's very challenging for

:19:46. > :19:50.them in England to make the breakthrough and a lot of players

:19:51. > :19:54.have to drop down and almost build their career up at 20, 21. I think

:19:55. > :19:59.you are everything in an intermall manager, a mentor, obviously a

:20:00. > :20:02.coach, a tactician, and there is a lot of challenges there. It's been a

:20:03. > :20:06.fantastic five years and I've developed an awful lot in that

:20:07. > :20:11.period. Certainly in the first two years, I felt that I was banging my

:20:12. > :20:17.head against the wall a little bit, that despite all the work I was

:20:18. > :20:21.doing, I wasn't really seeing it in terms of results but I was seeing it

:20:22. > :20:25.in terms of the players. I used to come away enthused and positive even

:20:26. > :20:28.though we didn't get the deserved results. It was a case very much of

:20:29. > :20:31.perseverance and making sure the players recognised that they could

:20:32. > :20:36.achieve something as well because it had been such a long time. For many

:20:37. > :20:41.of the players, their international careers had maybe more downs than

:20:42. > :20:46.ups. Now I think it's fitting that we are seeing the likes of Steven

:20:47. > :20:50.Davis and Aaron Hughes and Gareth Macaulay, Chris brunt, these players

:20:51. > :20:53.who've played a long time getting the chance to play in the

:20:54. > :21:05.tournaments. The positivity around the team at the minute is great. I

:21:06. > :21:09.know the senior manager really well, he's a true gentleman. When a new

:21:10. > :21:17.manager comes in, you always expect a lift. Norway have good players.
