:00:38. > :00:40.Good afternoon. Welcome to Football Focus.
:00:41. > :00:43.We have two fantastic beasts for you in the studio
:00:44. > :00:48.and for the next hour you'll find them watching all this.
:00:49. > :00:55.Bournemouth's Harry Arter on facing life's challenges.
:00:56. > :00:59.Eye didn't really understand how you breathe out that point. I'd never
:01:00. > :01:01.lost anyone in my family. Ready, steady, Go...mes -
:01:02. > :01:03.Watford's stopper on the comings They bring something that we didn't
:01:04. > :01:09.have. Liverpool on the up -
:01:10. > :01:19.we'll hear from an old boy. It was a big boost for the club and
:01:20. > :01:20.the city, they are so enjoyable to watch.
:01:21. > :01:22.It's the second city derby and a second anniversary
:01:23. > :01:26.this weekend for Birmingham's Gary Rowett.
:01:27. > :01:29.Please make a wish. It can be private.
:01:30. > :01:31.And also enjoying life on the touchline -
:01:32. > :01:41.We'll also hear from the former Ballon d'Or
:01:42. > :01:44.It's a scandal that these two never made the shortlist -
:01:45. > :01:49.Seven games to get stuck into today, with Everton v West Ham
:01:50. > :02:01.This is the new Winter ball. Meant to be the easiest ball ever to see.
:02:02. > :02:02.It enables you to make a quick decision and it fits beautifully
:02:03. > :02:03.with our colours. We'll get the team news
:02:04. > :02:05.from Sunderland shortly as they face a flying Arsenal
:02:06. > :02:08.in today's early game. We'll be live at the Lane
:02:09. > :02:10.as unbeaten Tottenham take on Leicester, and off
:02:11. > :02:13.to the Riverside to get the latest on Middlesbrough's
:02:14. > :02:15.fight to pick up points. They host a Bournemouth
:02:16. > :02:18.team unbeaten in four. One of the stars of their midfield
:02:19. > :02:42.has been talking to Kevin Kilbane. Harry, last week, man of the match
:02:43. > :02:45.against Tottenham, how are you feeling in yourself? I'm feeling
:02:46. > :02:50.confident and fit, which for any player is the most important thing
:02:51. > :02:55.going into the start of the season. The previous year was playing catch
:02:56. > :03:00.up throughout the year. This year I'm pleased to get a full pre-season
:03:01. > :03:03.under my belt. A slow start from the team, but results have picked up and
:03:04. > :03:10.everything is looking good. What's changed to you this season? I picked
:03:11. > :03:15.up a few injuries last year. My first season in the Premier League
:03:16. > :03:21.so I had to adapt to a new level and I wasn't 100% fit. This year I'm at
:03:22. > :03:28.my best. The big talking point last week, the Moussa Sissoko elbow.
:03:29. > :03:33.You've looked at it since, how have you viewed that? I remember at the
:03:34. > :03:38.time it hit me straight in the face. I was surprised at the time he
:03:39. > :03:43.wasn't sent off. As I said after the game, he apologised. In the heat of
:03:44. > :03:48.battle, you sometimes go over the top in certain ways. He apologised
:03:49. > :03:53.and I was happy to forget and forgive. He's been given a band now.
:03:54. > :03:59.He said it wasn't on purpose and if it wasn't, I was happy to accept
:04:00. > :04:04.that and move on. You're playing in a midfield alongside Jack Wilshere.
:04:05. > :04:08.How are you finding playing alongside him? Really enjoying it.
:04:09. > :04:13.The team have benefited from having Jack involved, it was a shock
:04:14. > :04:16.getting him. He's a number Liverpool player. You look at Bournemouth, you
:04:17. > :04:21.would have dreams of having a player like Jack a few years ago. Eddie
:04:22. > :04:23.Howe has shown great faith in you. How good is see and what does he
:04:24. > :04:40.bring you to a player and the rest of the squad? I wouldn't be sitting
:04:41. > :04:43.here if it wasn't him. He signed me when I was playing non-league when a
:04:44. > :04:45.lot of other managers said no. He asked me before I signed, it was
:04:46. > :04:48.almost like a job interview, he wanted to know my ambitions and
:04:49. > :04:52.things about my personal life. Very unusual. I don't know if that's
:04:53. > :04:58.still what he does. I passed the interview, which I was happy with.
:04:59. > :05:01.His dream and ambition was to be a Premier League manager and mine was
:05:02. > :05:06.to be a player in the Premier League. If anyone had heard the
:05:07. > :05:12.conversation that day, if there'd said you'd be doing that in 60s time
:05:13. > :05:17.at Bournemouth, they'd probably be laughed at. -- in six years' time.
:05:18. > :05:23.He's helped me not just become a better player, but a better person
:05:24. > :05:28.off the pitch as well. You mentioned earlier about your form last season.
:05:29. > :05:35.Obviously it's about a year since your partner Rachel had a stillborn
:05:36. > :05:40.daughter. Has it changed you in anyway? And the support you are
:05:41. > :05:44.given from the club at that time. It has definitely changed my
:05:45. > :05:51.personality. In everyone's life there will come a point where things
:05:52. > :05:56.may make you see things differently. Unfortunately for me it took
:05:57. > :06:00.something so tragic for that. The game against Man United, I probably
:06:01. > :06:04.wouldn't have been able to play if I was at any other club. The support
:06:05. > :06:09.from everyone that night is something that will live with me for
:06:10. > :06:13.ever, and my family. I was opened with the situation and that helped
:06:14. > :06:17.me grieve. I didn't understand how to grieve at that point, I'd never
:06:18. > :06:21.lost anyone. A lot of people messaged me to say they'd been
:06:22. > :06:28.through the same thing and how thankful they were that I'd come
:06:29. > :06:31.through it. If I can help one person feel 1% better, I will speak all day
:06:32. > :06:38.about it if needed. Harry, thank you very much. Thank you very much. A
:06:39. > :06:43.lovely interview, he speaks really well. The good news is, and Harry is
:06:44. > :06:48.happy for us to share this, is his partner Rachel is 22 weeks pregnant
:06:49. > :06:52.and we wish them all the very best. You watched him play against Spurs
:06:53. > :06:57.last week and he was man of the match, you were really impressed. I
:06:58. > :07:03.was. He gets about the pitch, very competent. He plays with fire in his
:07:04. > :07:08.belly. He has a real willing to get about and he wants to win. He plays
:07:09. > :07:14.on the edge at times, he picked up a booking early. Timing his tackles
:07:15. > :07:20.ever so well. If he was a fraction outcome he was off the pitch. In
:07:21. > :07:23.terms of the way he plays, very good, it gives them a great balance
:07:24. > :07:27.in the middle of the park and a really good player. If you look at
:07:28. > :07:32.the team they played against Spurs, Eddie Howe always says he is
:07:33. > :07:36.learning from every game. Eight of this side played with him in the
:07:37. > :07:40.Championship. There's a lot of English men. Harry Arter plays for
:07:41. > :07:45.the Republic of Ireland, but a lot of home-grown talent. He has a
:07:46. > :07:52.loyalty and a lot of belief in these players. The balance is nice now.
:07:53. > :07:57.Wilson is back, King, Stanislas, Jordon Ibe. Wilshere playing off the
:07:58. > :08:02.front, he adds a good balance. There was so much good stuff in that
:08:03. > :08:08.interview. We've talked about the home-grown talent. Harry was asked
:08:09. > :08:11.about all the speculation on Eddie Howe potentially being England
:08:12. > :08:16.manager one day and this is what he had to say. His attention to detail
:08:17. > :08:20.is more than enough for international football. He focuses
:08:21. > :08:24.on the right thing when it comes to games, the opposition, strengths and
:08:25. > :08:30.weaknesses. I hope he doesn't want to manage them soon because we would
:08:31. > :08:37.really miss him if he did go. I've no doubt in the future he will be
:08:38. > :08:40.England manager. He's a controlled manager. Harry Arter also said he
:08:41. > :08:45.doesn't shout, doesn't lose his rag, if something is going wrong, let's
:08:46. > :08:51.try it again with more confidence. These stories coming out now about
:08:52. > :08:55.Eddie Howe and how he's training is and how he's treating individuals.
:08:56. > :08:59.You could argue that now he is more qualified than the current manager,
:09:00. > :09:07.Gareth Southgate. He's had three promotions. He has the same values.
:09:08. > :09:10.Is it the charisma? Does he have the personality to be England manager?
:09:11. > :09:16.Gareth Southgate has it at this point. That's the only thing between
:09:17. > :09:20.them. He's doing very well. This is where he's going to be learning most
:09:21. > :09:25.of all, trying to find the right team, the right balance, a small
:09:26. > :09:28.budget, 12,000 people at their home games. It's remarkable what he is
:09:29. > :09:33.achieving and we need an England manager for the future and he's won
:09:34. > :09:36.in the making. He is willing to give players an opportunity. Eight of
:09:37. > :09:42.those players came up from the Championship. He spent ?13 million
:09:43. > :09:46.or so on Jordon Ibe, but he's not spent a lot of money. He is willing
:09:47. > :09:50.to give players an opportunity to play other highest level. They do
:09:51. > :09:55.have a rich owner and there is money there. Bournemouth are unbeaten in
:09:56. > :09:59.four and they are off to the Riverside. Aitor Karanka's 150th
:10:00. > :10:04.match in charge and they could do with something to celebrate. They
:10:05. > :10:10.could. It's coming up on three years since Aitor Karanka took charge. The
:10:11. > :10:13.first phase of his job here has been completed, they've got up to the
:10:14. > :10:16.Premier League under our it's about staying there. Out of the relegation
:10:17. > :10:31.on goal difference alone. He was asked about it last week. He said if
:10:32. > :10:33.we can be in 17th position in May and stay up on goal difference he
:10:34. > :10:36.would take that. As long as there are three worse clubs, Middlesbrough
:10:37. > :10:38.will be happy. It will be important for them to get goals out of
:10:39. > :10:42.Negredo. He's scored for Manchester City in the past. He's only got one
:10:43. > :10:45.goal for Middlesbrough. It's probably a wider problem in the
:10:46. > :10:50.penalty area at the moment, the success of the out and out striker.
:10:51. > :10:54.Aguero and Rooney on the bench, last weekend Jamie Vardy was on the
:10:55. > :10:59.bench. With players like Coutinho and Firmino at Liverpool providing
:11:00. > :11:04.more than just scoring goals, and Coutinho is the top scorer at
:11:05. > :11:08.Liverpool, Mahrez is top scorer at Leicester, but he's not an out and
:11:09. > :11:12.out striker. Adama Traore played very well last week for
:11:13. > :11:17.Middlesbrough, who came in at the extensive Stewart Downing. He
:11:18. > :11:22.panicked the Arsenal defence. If Negredo's shooting boots don't catch
:11:23. > :11:25.up, there will be an incentive for Karanka to play Downing and Traore
:11:26. > :11:32.is more of a striker who can develop things further back the pitch but
:11:33. > :11:37.also to score goals. The bottom line for Middlesbrough is we are starting
:11:38. > :11:41.to use the winter ball. They haven't won at home with the white ball,
:11:42. > :11:48.maybe the winter ball is the future! Thank you. Let's go to White Hart
:11:49. > :11:53.land. No team has managed to get the better of Tottenham this season. --
:11:54. > :12:00.why Kurt Lane. Last January Spurs against Leicester was crucial in the
:12:01. > :12:03.title race. Spurs welcomed Leicester to White Hart Lane with both sides
:12:04. > :12:08.looking to score -- consolidate their place in the top four.
:12:09. > :12:15.Alderweireld! Clawed away by Schmeichel. Drink water! He extended
:12:16. > :12:23.Lloris. Lamellar! Two of the best chances have fallen to him. Dele
:12:24. > :12:30.Alli! Saved Bice Michael. Kane is in here! He's hit the bar. Vardy! First
:12:31. > :12:36.real goal attempt of the night from Jamie Vardy. Robert Huth was holding
:12:37. > :12:41.back and he's scored! Leicester City score a late, late goal. Their first
:12:42. > :12:48.win in four in the Premier League, their first goal in four, but what a
:12:49. > :12:52.priceless one. The voice of John Watson describing that and he's
:12:53. > :12:55.there this time again. I've been reliably informed you been working
:12:56. > :13:02.on a statistic for us. You always like me to give you one and I've got
:13:03. > :13:06.one ready. I was here for that Robert Huth goal. That effectively
:13:07. > :13:11.caused a 6-point swing in the championship race and Leicester only
:13:12. > :13:16.lost one in 18 as they went on to be title winners after that game here
:13:17. > :13:21.at Tottenham. We're here again today for a rematch. Spurs, nine games
:13:22. > :13:26.unbeaten in the Premier League, their best ever start, five wins,
:13:27. > :13:31.four draws. Older Tottenham supporters will remember the great
:13:32. > :13:33.double team of 1960-61. I checked at last night to see exactly what start
:13:34. > :13:47.they made to the season. Would you believe they didn't get
:13:48. > :13:49.beaten until their 17th game. 15 wins and one draw for Bill
:13:50. > :13:52.Nicholson's team. Pochettino has some way to go to beat that. But the
:13:53. > :13:56.best defence in the Premier League, only four conceded, and all from
:13:57. > :14:00.free kicks, corners or penalties. Nobody has scored in open play
:14:01. > :14:06.against Tottenham this season. That suggests they could be the real
:14:07. > :14:10.deal. A bevy of statistics! I'm sure Pochettino would like those himself.
:14:11. > :14:14.From a Leicester perspective, a cracking win over Palace last week,
:14:15. > :14:20.but their away form has not been that good so far this season. No.
:14:21. > :14:22.They've lost all four away in the Premier League, but they did beat
:14:23. > :14:42.Crystal Palace last week. I was there to see
:14:43. > :14:44.Moussa score his first goal, Aga Zaki scored one, and Christian
:14:45. > :14:46.Fuchs, the full-back, who had never scored for Leicester before, rifled
:14:47. > :14:48.in number three. A very compact performance. I believe that Claudio
:14:49. > :14:50.Ranieri is prioritising towards the Champions League, I believe. If they
:14:51. > :14:54.win in Copenhagen on Wednesday, Leicester are through to the last
:14:55. > :14:58.16. The dream for that club goes on. In the meantime, they have to
:14:59. > :15:02.improve their away form in the league. I started with a statistic
:15:03. > :15:09.and I can't resist finishing with one. I referred to the 1960-61 Spurs
:15:10. > :15:15.team. Dave Jones was in it and he's here today. They won the league and
:15:16. > :15:23.cup double, the first club to do so in the 20th century. -- Cliff Jones.
:15:24. > :15:26.The league title was all sewn up by the time they got to Wembley. Who
:15:27. > :15:30.did they beat there? You got it, Leicester City! A mention for Cliff
:15:31. > :15:33.Jones. Two hours until kick-off. I think you need to sit down.
:15:34. > :15:36.From Spurs to a man who used to call White Hart Lane home.
:15:37. > :15:38.Heurelho Gomes helped Watford win promotion in his first season
:15:39. > :15:40.and they're looking good this time round too -
:15:41. > :15:42.despite a steady turnover of managers.
:15:43. > :15:44.We got Gomes together with Garth at one of the club's
:15:45. > :16:10.Heurelho, you look very comfortable with the youngsters. You like that?
:16:11. > :16:15.Always. I have two boys at home. And I do hear exactly what I do with my
:16:16. > :16:20.kids. One of them is a centre forward. I prefer him to play there,
:16:21. > :16:25.to be honest. I believe you still have a responsibility, but as a
:16:26. > :16:30.goalkeeper you have to be pretty much almost every Game 100%,
:16:31. > :16:40.otherwise you are going to have a problem. Great save by Heurelho
:16:41. > :16:44.Gomes! Smart save by Gomes! You seem to be enjoying your football now.
:16:45. > :16:54.Perhaps more than any time in your career? I am more experienced. I
:16:55. > :17:00.know the game, I think, and that helps. 35 years old is a good age to
:17:01. > :17:03.be a goalkeeper. If you are fit, you can deliver, every week, a good
:17:04. > :17:12.performance. Your time at Spurs, was it difficult? It's in! Another big
:17:13. > :17:17.question mark against the 27-year-old Brazilian. The first six
:17:18. > :17:23.months, I can tell you that it was very, very difficult. The problem
:17:24. > :17:27.was, I did not adapt so quick. But I never felt the pressure. Always,
:17:28. > :17:32.what I tried to do is to help. Sometimes I tried to help too much.
:17:33. > :17:36.That is why sometimes I did not cope well with my position. During your
:17:37. > :17:41.time at Watford, you have played under six managers. Has that been
:17:42. > :17:45.difficult? To be honest, the changes, all the time we change the
:17:46. > :17:52.manager, they bring something that we needed. We never turn around or
:17:53. > :17:59.question someone, why is there a change? The players always kept
:18:00. > :18:02.their focus. He seems to want Watford to score more goals, is that
:18:03. > :18:12.right? He wants to make you more attacking? We scored 13 goals at the
:18:13. > :18:17.moment. Last year, we took longer to score more goals. Goalkeepers I
:18:18. > :18:22.speak to, their priority is to defend at all costs, if you get a
:18:23. > :18:27.goal here or there, that is fine, but defend at all costs. You seem to
:18:28. > :18:30.have more of a liberal attitude? The most important thing, I don't focus
:18:31. > :18:35.on clean sheets, to be honest. I want my team to win all the time. I
:18:36. > :18:41.am not asking them, hold on, don't go up, defend here. I am not that
:18:42. > :18:47.type of player. I want them to do their game. If their game, the best
:18:48. > :18:54.attack, let's attack. Then we are going to score more goals than the
:18:55. > :18:58.other teams. You seem to celebrate your team's victories, the goals,
:18:59. > :19:02.with the fans? Yes, I wait for that all the time. That is the best
:19:03. > :19:07.moment of the game. If we score a goal. A goalkeeper that doesn't
:19:08. > :19:11.agree with that is wrong. What do you think would be an ideal position
:19:12. > :19:14.for Watford to finish? This year, we are not going to play for
:19:15. > :19:20.relegation. People were trying to put us last season like that. You
:19:21. > :19:25.are better than that? Much better than that. We have no one system we
:19:26. > :19:31.can play, we can change through the game. We still have room to improve
:19:32. > :19:35.and we are going to do that. I think he's a great character. He had three
:19:36. > :19:41.seasons at Spurs, hardly played a game, went out on loan, nine games
:19:42. > :19:43.in that time, Hoffenheim on loan. Have you played with a goalkeeper
:19:44. > :19:48.that admits they don't concentrate on clean sheets? I think they get a
:19:49. > :19:53.lot of help from the defence as well. From a goalkeeper's point of
:19:54. > :19:56.view, it is about making crucial saves, decision-making, when you
:19:57. > :20:01.leave your box and see the ball played over your defence, do you go
:20:02. > :20:07.and attack the ball? You know, strikers are coming through. The
:20:08. > :20:12.goalkeepers, when they make a last-ditch... Sort of they dive down
:20:13. > :20:16.low, and make the leap to give penalties, decision-making. It is
:20:17. > :20:20.not all about clean sheets. He is a fun personality, it is not what you
:20:21. > :20:27.expect from your typical goalkeeper. They go berserk if you leave them
:20:28. > :20:32.alone. Do not even allowed to somebody shoot. At times, he is
:20:33. > :20:38.mixed in his performance. But he is capable of magnificent saves and he
:20:39. > :20:42.is capable of the occasional gaffe. Who is the angriest you have played
:20:43. > :20:50.with? Jo Neville Southall, you don't look at him, if you did, it was your
:20:51. > :20:54.fault! What do you make of Watford? They have change the system and are
:20:55. > :20:57.playing one up front for some games? I feel there is tremendous spirit in
:20:58. > :21:03.this team, particularly when they are down against West Ham. Troy
:21:04. > :21:07.Deeney was taking over. There is more competition for places. Hull
:21:08. > :21:12.take on Watford today at Vicarage Road. They have not won since Mike
:21:13. > :21:19.Phelan took the job and there has been some wretched defending? Yes,
:21:20. > :21:25.we were all pulling for him to be given the job. First Manager of the
:21:26. > :21:32.Month? Had a great start, lost Robert Snodgrass, who was
:21:33. > :21:35.instrumental in terms of early wins. Dawson is back, that is really
:21:36. > :21:39.important for them. He might want to think about changing the system,
:21:40. > :21:42.does he play three at the back? It is working for other teams. He needs
:21:43. > :21:50.to do something to make the change, they are losing a lot of games.
:21:51. > :21:54.Gomes said he really enjoyed being interviewed by Garth. You know when
:21:55. > :21:58.Garth is enjoying an interview, because he starts nodding. Slow and
:21:59. > :22:05.steady, and more vigorous. When he really agrees, look at the speed
:22:06. > :22:08.version. Finger on the lip. I think he agreed with him, didn't he? Let's
:22:09. > :22:11.show you the bottom of the table. Hull are in the bottom three,
:22:12. > :22:14.but it's Sunderland who are the only team in the top division
:22:15. > :22:16.still chasing their first Defeat in the EFL cup to Southampton
:22:17. > :22:21.this week also saw David Moyes sent to the stands and facing
:22:22. > :22:23.an FA misconduct charge. Steve Bower is at the Stadium of
:22:24. > :22:27.Light. Can you find any crumbs of comfort
:22:28. > :22:37.for the men of Moyes, Steve? Not really. After the EFL cup
:22:38. > :22:40.defeat, their flight back from Southampton was cancelled because of
:22:41. > :22:44.fog, meaning they arrived in the north-east less than 48 hours before
:22:45. > :22:47.the start of this game. David Moyes spoke yesterday about having to take
:22:48. > :22:52.a lot of poison before making the club that. Today, he makes just one
:22:53. > :22:55.change to the team that lost late at West Ham last weekend. Billy Jones
:22:56. > :23:03.start a league game for the first time in defence this season. Arsenal
:23:04. > :23:09.are unbeaten in 13 games in all competitions, but without Theo
:23:10. > :23:14.Walcott, and Monreal out through injury, there are starts for Gibbs
:23:15. > :23:19.and Oxlade-Chamberlain. There are boosts in the form of Aaron Ramsey
:23:20. > :23:25.and Olivier Giroud being back, amongst the substitutes. A heavy
:23:26. > :23:32.defeat would mean that Sunderland would equal the worst start to a
:23:33. > :23:36.Premier League season. Arsenal made three changes, John O'Shea, Steven
:23:37. > :23:40.Pienaar and Jermain Defoe all start. David Moyes saying they should have
:23:41. > :23:45.won in the cup, they should have had a point at West Ham. He says despite
:23:46. > :23:49.the defeats, morale is quite good? It is important to keep morale.
:23:50. > :23:56.Normally, team spirit comes with meaning games -- winning games. They
:23:57. > :24:01.are not winning games. Two points from the first nine games is
:24:02. > :24:04.relegation material. They need to get John O'Shea showing that kind of
:24:05. > :24:11.character that he has got, standing up at the back for them. They need
:24:12. > :24:14.to create chances for Jermain Defoe. They have a goal-scorer? Sam
:24:15. > :24:17.Allardyce seemed to get the best out of Jermain Defoe. He was brilliant
:24:18. > :24:22.at the end of last season. They have to get him in goal-scoring
:24:23. > :24:26.positions. Arsenal, you have seen a lot of their recent games, the EFL
:24:27. > :24:29.Up, and against Middlesbrough, Arsene Wenger has gone back to his
:24:30. > :24:37.Premier League side. Oxlade-Chamberlain keeps his place,
:24:38. > :24:43.Monreal sidelined. Are they the real deal? A lot of people were critical
:24:44. > :24:45.against Arsenal against Middlesbrough, I thought they were
:24:46. > :24:49.impressive in a way that they played. There was a hunger about the
:24:50. > :24:57.team. No complacency. You want to beat Middlesbrough, in the end,
:24:58. > :25:00.Traore pad some good opportunities. This is one where they will have to
:25:01. > :25:03.push on if they are going to be champions. It is so open at the
:25:04. > :25:08.moment, the Premier League. Arsenal have as good a chance of anyone. In
:25:09. > :25:11.recent seasons, teams like Middlesbrough, that Arsenal have
:25:12. > :25:15.slipped up against at home, those are the games, the Middlesbroughs of
:25:16. > :25:19.this world, you need to nail down those three points, especially at
:25:20. > :25:23.home. That is where Arsenal have faltered in recent seasons. They are
:25:24. > :25:26.better, if you look at their corresponding fixtures of last year,
:25:27. > :25:31.they are already ahead against lower teams. It is Middlesbrough at home
:25:32. > :25:36.where you are expecting them to win comfortably, like champions do. It
:25:37. > :25:41.is dropping points like that that ultimately costs them. I know you
:25:42. > :25:48.will be happy to see Aaron Ramsey on the bench? Brilliant for him, good
:25:49. > :25:52.news for Arsenal as well and Wales. Arsenal made it through to the
:25:53. > :25:55.quarterfinals of the cup. Manchester United are also in after getting the
:25:56. > :26:02.better of Manchester City on Wednesday. But it is league form
:26:03. > :26:06.concerning both Manchester teams. Only once before has Pep Guardiola
:26:07. > :26:12.gone five matches without winning. He will be determined to avoid a
:26:13. > :26:18.repeat today. John Stones overplayed that! Redmond! 1-0 Southampton! He
:26:19. > :26:22.can't believe that gift. Would you believe it? John Stones puts it in
:26:23. > :26:28.the back of the net, but the offside flag is up. Ian
:26:29. > :26:36.the substitute has levelled it. Five games without a win, only a point
:26:37. > :26:40.for Pep Guardiola. Stamford Bridge's away dugout may be the only part of
:26:41. > :26:46.the stadium that Jose Mourinho does not know like the back of his hand.
:26:47. > :26:53.Chelsea get the game underway. They are in trouble! Pedro has scored for
:26:54. > :27:02.Chelsea! After 31 seconds! Unbelievable stuff! Gary Cahill
:27:03. > :27:06.makes it two! Mourinho's Manchester United are being blown away at The
:27:07. > :27:15.Bridge. Wonderful goal by Eden Hazard. 4-0. Defeat is becoming
:27:16. > :27:16.humiliation. Not in their wildest dreams did Chelsea think it would be
:27:17. > :27:25.so easy. That was the start of a pretty
:27:26. > :27:34.strange week for Mourinho. Manchester City are top on goal
:27:35. > :27:39.difference, with Chelsea one of four teams a point of Michael the summit.
:27:40. > :27:43.A poor performance from Manchester United at Stamford Bridge. They won
:27:44. > :27:46.against city in the cup, and a lot of talk about the fact he is not
:27:47. > :27:50.enjoying life in Manchester, does that matter? The bottom line is that
:27:51. > :27:56.he doesn't like losing games, does he? He doesn't take losing too well.
:27:57. > :28:02.He looks for excuses. He is a winner. He has been a successful
:28:03. > :28:07.manager. To lose 4-0 at Chelsea, Manchester United never lose 4-0.
:28:08. > :28:12.You can understand why he is grumpy. He wants to win. He doesn't take too
:28:13. > :28:25.losing very well. He is having a go at Alberto -- Alberto can't, telling
:28:26. > :28:29.him how to celebrate. He's not happy with things behind the scenes. He
:28:30. > :28:34.wants to improve it. Everywhere he goes, there is a camera his face. We
:28:35. > :28:38.can see what sort of mood he is in, he looks pretty miserable. He will
:28:39. > :28:43.be happy to beat Man City midweek, but in the league, they are
:28:44. > :28:51.struggling. This is not really Mourinho form. How long will he get?
:28:52. > :28:55.Manchester United are desperate to return to the summit, and it hasn't
:28:56. > :28:59.quite happened for them. They won the FA Cup, but they need
:29:00. > :29:04.significant silverware? Yes, they need to be challenging. I think he
:29:05. > :29:09.will make Manchester United better in the long run. There have been one
:29:10. > :29:17.or two issues about the formation. I think Wayne Rooney is a constant
:29:18. > :29:23.talking point. Mkhitaryan, paid good money for him, can't get him in the
:29:24. > :29:27.team. Playing Monopoly together in the hotel, I am hearing. Michael
:29:28. > :29:30.Carrick has come into the side, a great passer, played centre-back.
:29:31. > :29:36.Defensively, he is aware of his role. Burnley, bolstered by the
:29:37. > :29:39.return of Andre Gray after his ban, and they need some goals.
:29:40. > :29:44.Particularly away from home, not a single point on air travel so far?
:29:45. > :29:52.They have had some great wins at home, but a you have to improve. He
:29:53. > :29:56.has great pace, back in the team, he might call one out today. I suspect
:29:57. > :30:02.it will be Manchester United. I wanted to talk to you about Chelsea.
:30:03. > :30:05.Since being beaten by Arsenal in September, three league wins from 34
:30:06. > :30:15.Antonio Conte's side. Formation wise, they have tried four different
:30:16. > :30:18.formations this season. Since switching to 343, they have not
:30:19. > :30:23.conceded a goal in the league. Has he found the right formation?
:30:24. > :30:30.He's managed to get David Luiz in the team with the three centre
:30:31. > :30:35.backs. Moses has been excellent, he's worked hard. He's playing
:30:36. > :30:41.Wing-back with Alonso on the other side. Matic and Kante, Chelsea won't
:30:42. > :30:45.be far-away, they are very talented. This is the way, take wants to
:30:46. > :30:51.manage. They lost at Arsenal. We're going to do what I want to do. We
:30:52. > :30:56.saw it in the summer with Italy. He knows this system inside out. Why
:30:57. > :31:02.would he not want to play in this manner? He's getting the best from
:31:03. > :31:06.the players. Nathan Redmond and Tadic are playing really well at the
:31:07. > :31:12.moment, they'll prove a good test. They will stretch the back three. I
:31:13. > :31:18.just feel now he's now in charge, Antonio Conte. He is now saying this
:31:19. > :31:24.is my team, my formation. Ivanovic, he said we're not really sure what
:31:25. > :31:28.the manager wants us to do. Since then, I'm in charge of this and he's
:31:29. > :31:36.done so well. He's won a lot of trophies. Costa looks hungry again.
:31:37. > :31:40.I saw him boast -- burst through in midweek against West Ham. Brushing
:31:41. > :31:44.defenders out of the way. He looks fit and write up for it and he is
:31:45. > :31:47.massive for them. I'm surprised you like a bit of hurly-burly! I've been
:31:48. > :31:51.known to like it. Some Chelsea fans were involved
:31:52. > :31:54.in the fighting which marred the EFL Cup match against West Ham
:31:55. > :31:57.at the London Stadium on Wednesday. West Ham say they've identified more
:31:58. > :31:59.than 200 individuals involved who will be banned
:32:00. > :32:02.from the stadium for life. Slaven Bilic's side are away
:32:03. > :32:04.at Everton tomorrow, but next week we'll be live
:32:05. > :32:06.in East London before See what the club are doing to try
:32:07. > :32:21.and deal with the issue. West Ham in the north-west and
:32:22. > :32:25.Manchester City in the Midlands. If you've ever wondered how Pep
:32:26. > :32:29.Guardiola gets the best out of his players, you might like this. I feel
:32:30. > :32:36.a lot more freedom, I feel like I can get on the ball more and I can
:32:37. > :32:41.express myself by taking touches and taking players on. Was it a case of
:32:42. > :32:45.Pep Guardiola pushing you to do that or the fact you were restricted
:32:46. > :32:51.doing that last season under the previous coach? Under the previous
:32:52. > :32:56.coach, not to say anything negative, but in training sometimes it was
:32:57. > :33:02.always two touches. You get into that way of playing and you forget
:33:03. > :33:06.your identity and how to play. That's not my style, my style is to
:33:07. > :33:12.get the ball and go at players. Now I'm learning to mix it up. Not just
:33:13. > :33:19.go down a blind alley every time, knowing when to take two touches and
:33:20. > :33:25.when to take on my man. More on that on Wednesday night. Sterling and Man
:33:26. > :33:30.City haven't won in six. They are at the Hawthorns today. Mark Lawrenson
:33:31. > :33:33.is serving a one-week studio band for misconduct last week concerning
:33:34. > :33:38.Jonathan Pearce! That's why I've gone full suit and
:33:39. > :33:43.tie this week, but criticism of the commentator's dress sense is fine.
:33:44. > :33:48.What about a manager new to the Premier League. Is it unfair that
:33:49. > :33:52.Pep Guardiola has had a little bit? I wouldn't describe it as unfair, is
:33:53. > :33:59.the world they live in. When you don't win games, with the resources
:34:00. > :34:05.they have, it's understandable. When you analyse it, Guardiola hasn't
:34:06. > :34:10.been through such a run. Barcelona, Messi, Iniesta, Xavi, that was one
:34:11. > :34:15.defeat! And then Bayern Munich, the best team in the Bundesliga. If you
:34:16. > :34:22.look at it, Man City is probably the worst team, in inverted commas, that
:34:23. > :34:26.he's managed. Until they manage these guys in the Premier League,
:34:27. > :34:30.they don't realise you play the bottom ten teams, it's not like
:34:31. > :34:35.Spain or Germany, you don't roll them over, they can roll you over.
:34:36. > :34:41.That's the most difficult thing for him. We heard Raheem Sterling
:34:42. > :34:46.talking about being given freedom to express and sell. What about
:34:47. > :34:50.defenders, is his style awkward for defenders? A little bit, especially
:34:51. > :34:55.if you play from the back. Whether you play three, four or five, if you
:34:56. > :35:00.have somebody not comfortable on the ball, if you're the opposition, you
:35:01. > :35:04.target him. I feel sorry for Vincent Kompany. He's started a couple of
:35:05. > :35:10.games of late, but you can see, every time he does something, he's
:35:11. > :35:20.thinking, is my calf going to go? That doesn't help either. It's a
:35:21. > :35:22.really difficult thing. City going forward can be irresistible, but you
:35:23. > :35:25.don't win the league by being irresistible every week. Tony Pulis
:35:26. > :35:30.has signed a new deal to stay at West Brom a little longer. Makes
:35:31. > :35:34.sense. You been in the game a long time. How often do you get new
:35:35. > :35:38.owners and the manager gets fired because he is not their choice? It's
:35:39. > :35:43.a statement by the Chinese owners. What's the average crowd Chris Bass
:35:44. > :35:49.back what is the average crowd? Mid-20s? At the start of August they
:35:50. > :35:56.want to stay in the Premier League. Ask Nottingham Forest, Derby, and
:35:57. > :35:59.more. Mark will be doing co-commentary on radio five live
:36:00. > :36:10.this afternoon and highlights on match of the Deila a tough. -- Match
:36:11. > :36:19.Of The Day later. Alan Shearer and Danny Murphy, the Mitchell brothers,
:36:20. > :36:23.will be on Match Of The Day back! Plenty still to come on Football
:36:24. > :36:29.Focus. Wear with Birmingham, where there's the small matter of
:36:30. > :36:34.tomorrow's derby with the Villa. He helped Liverpool to Champions League
:36:35. > :36:40.glory, but can Xabi Alonso repeat the feat with Bayern Munich? And the
:36:41. > :36:50.deadly dreads. Go on, some! Ruud Gullit on the art of management.
:36:51. > :37:02.What a header. He's on match of the date two. Probably the best ever
:37:03. > :37:06.headed habits. Patrick Vieira is now manager of New York City in MLS.
:37:07. > :37:21.Gary Lineker has been to see how he's getting on.
:37:22. > :37:27.It's easy, this managerial game, isn't it? Easy? Not at all. You're
:37:28. > :37:33.making it look easy, it's going well. It's going well. We had a
:37:34. > :37:38.really difficult period, but we are in a really good period at the
:37:39. > :37:41.moment. You spend most of your career in European football. Was it
:37:42. > :37:47.a big decision to come here, did you think long and hard? I had to think
:37:48. > :37:52.about it, yes. When you spend so much time in Europe, it's really
:37:53. > :37:58.difficult to move. But at the same time I was really convinced it was
:37:59. > :38:03.the right place for me. Talking with people in Manchester and knowing
:38:04. > :38:09.that New York is part of the City group, knowing the people behind
:38:10. > :38:14.will help me to develop myself as a coach and I've made the right
:38:15. > :38:21.decision. How can we improve when we have the ball? Sometimes with the
:38:22. > :38:25.academy in Manchester, before taking charge of the second team. It was
:38:26. > :38:30.really important because that made me really believe this is something
:38:31. > :38:40.I will enjoy. Being a coach wasn't something I was planning. People saw
:38:41. > :38:45.something in me that I didn't see myself. How important have the three
:38:46. > :38:54.Superstars been for you? They've been fantastic. Nice to see you.
:38:55. > :39:07.How's it going, enjoying it? Yeah. That triggered? Yeah. -- Patrick
:39:08. > :39:16.good? The change in the team... He's a European coach. He gets it, plays
:39:17. > :39:22.proper football! Nice to see you. What's the change under Patrick
:39:23. > :39:26.Vieira? Of course Patrick has done a lot of pushing in training. He's the
:39:27. > :39:32.most important guy in the direction of the team, of course. Getting
:39:33. > :39:36.victories, getting points. More stability than the first year.
:39:37. > :39:40.Patrick is doing great. The standards he is brought into the
:39:41. > :39:45.club and the players has given us a real lift. On the pitch, the
:39:46. > :39:49.training, the dedication, he's here early and leaves late. I've seen
:39:50. > :39:51.this evolution in him in a short time and he's got an incredible
:39:52. > :40:07.future. It's a fantastic city, a different city. The city
:40:08. > :40:10.doesn't sleep, it's moving all the time. I want the team to be like
:40:11. > :40:12.that. I want it to be full of energy and reflect the city. You were
:40:13. > :40:15.fiercely competitive as a footballer, how is it as a manager?
:40:16. > :40:22.If I want to be successful that's what I have to do. If I want to be
:40:23. > :40:30.like Mourinho or Mancini, that's not Patrick. When the players smell
:40:31. > :40:42.that, it's over. I want you close to David!
:40:43. > :40:50.Do you have further ambitions to manage her hat is one of the big
:40:51. > :40:55.clubs at home? -- perhaps. Every country around the world, I will do
:40:56. > :41:04.it because I want to manage a big club in Europe one day, no doubt
:41:05. > :41:10.about it. This is what drives me. It may happen, it may not happen. The
:41:11. > :41:13.way my work will dictate the next step. I'm really, really happy where
:41:14. > :41:19.I am at the moment and that's important for me.
:41:20. > :41:24.What a playing career. Look at the honours he won. You both know him.
:41:25. > :41:29.What do you think of where he is at the moment and where he might be
:41:30. > :41:34.down the line, Martin? It's perfect for him to be out there developing
:41:35. > :41:38.as a manager. There's always been an aura around him. All the players I
:41:39. > :41:45.was in the dressing room with, he was the one I thought, OK, he could
:41:46. > :41:49.be a top manager. From early on? No doubt about it. He is supremely
:41:50. > :41:54.intelligent, fiercely competitive. There was another side to him, it
:41:55. > :41:59.was all is like his brother turned up to training because he was so
:42:00. > :42:03.slopping! But match days, he was a tremendous competitor. I know how
:42:04. > :42:06.ambitious ears, he wants to go all the way to the top, he is prepared
:42:07. > :42:13.to put the miles in, he's gone to America. He's got three very good
:42:14. > :42:18.players, he's had to integrate them with lesser quality players. The
:42:19. > :42:24.club is only three years old. It's brand-new and they are in
:42:25. > :42:28.partnership with City. Man City, one day, after Guardiola has won three
:42:29. > :42:35.or four championships, they might bring Patrick Vieira back. I can't
:42:36. > :42:39.believe he got away from Arsenal. Letting him go and him not being
:42:40. > :42:45.part of the site where he was a legend as a player. Yes, he was.
:42:46. > :42:50.Arsene Wenger has brought in Steve Bould, he had Pat Rice for a while.
:42:51. > :42:55.Patrick learned a lot, managing the second team at Man City. He's now
:42:56. > :43:00.doing very well at knew what city. It's great for his development. --
:43:01. > :43:05.New York City. He's still a young man, but you look to the future,
:43:06. > :43:13.Arsene Wenger can't go on forever. He needs a job in Europe to do it on
:43:14. > :43:16.proper playing field in Europe, where you're judged. He slipped
:43:17. > :43:21.through our store's fingers. He won't wait around to be asked. He's
:43:22. > :43:26.trying to become a top manager in his own right and fair to him. The
:43:27. > :43:33.Champions League returns next week so the perfect opportunity to hear
:43:34. > :43:37.from a man who's graced La Liga, the Bundesliga and the Premier League.
:43:38. > :43:45.He's one a bit with his country as well. Xabi Alonso. This Spanish team
:43:46. > :43:48.are the history boys. There were no secrets. We were great players in
:43:49. > :43:55.the right time. We were thinking about the team, all of us, and we
:43:56. > :44:00.came together so well. There were no egos, everybody was thinking about
:44:01. > :44:06.what was best for the team. Free header, back post, 1-0, Xabi Alonso!
:44:07. > :44:14.For eight years it was special. It will take time to really value how
:44:15. > :44:18.special it was. Before the World Cup I had already taken the decision it
:44:19. > :44:23.was the right time because I had been with the national team for 11
:44:24. > :44:27.years. My way of thinking is try to live it before -- leave it before
:44:28. > :44:31.you were left out of the national team. Try to ramp is to pay those
:44:32. > :44:34.moves. I enjoyed it so much, Braaheid preferred to leave it with
:44:35. > :44:42.a good memory and I took the right decision. He's been a great manager
:44:43. > :44:50.with different clubs in different countries. He's used dealing with
:44:51. > :44:54.good players and successful teams. That's important. He has his own
:44:55. > :45:00.personality, his own idea. He's smart enough to get to know the good
:45:01. > :45:05.things that were already here and try to introduce his own ideas.
:45:06. > :45:16.Great goal for us. If you asked Madrid, Barcelona, the top clubs in
:45:17. > :45:23.Europe, they will answer the same. The Champions League is one of their
:45:24. > :45:28.biggest goals in the season. We are sharing that big goal, all of us,
:45:29. > :45:31.and only one of us can get it. The last few years we have reached the
:45:32. > :45:39.semifinal and it is frustrating not to be able to play in the final. But
:45:40. > :45:43.we will try and make it this year. People that really appreciate
:45:44. > :45:50.football, they really value the impact that he had. He was coming
:45:51. > :45:56.from a successful time in Barcelona. With him, expectations are always so
:45:57. > :45:59.high. In the end, the Champions League, it is not a matter of how
:46:00. > :46:03.good or if he was successful or not. It is difficult to win it and at the
:46:04. > :46:10.end, everybody is looking back and thinking his time was great in
:46:11. > :46:14.Bayern. He was a big boost for the club, for the city, for such a
:46:15. > :46:18.prestigious manager to want to manage Liverpool. I think he has
:46:19. > :46:24.embraced the culture of Liverpool. The tradition, the hunger to deliver
:46:25. > :46:30.and make something important. They are so enjoyable to watch. They are
:46:31. > :46:36.playing great games, they beat Arsenal in London, Chelsea in London
:46:37. > :46:42.as well. What a beauty from Jordan Henderson! We will see, it is a big
:46:43. > :46:47.one. Another impressive CV, this time from Xabi Alonso. Really
:46:48. > :46:51.interesting, when he was at Liverpool, and I spoke to Chris
:46:52. > :46:53.Kirkland for a programme, and he was saying he was an amazing trainer.
:46:54. > :46:59.You talk about Viera being sloppy, he said Alonso almost changed the
:47:00. > :47:03.wake they did things because he was so attentive to detail, never gave a
:47:04. > :47:08.pass away and was incredible on the training ground? Not many players I
:47:09. > :47:11.have played with can do that. A lot of players try to save a bit back
:47:12. > :47:17.for games. It's very difficult to train as you play, if you like. Two
:47:18. > :47:23.that spring to mind are Henrik Larson and Petrov. They trained like
:47:24. > :47:27.they played, they left everything on the training ground. I think you've
:47:28. > :47:31.got to. I remember you saying to me, we will do it for real in training
:47:32. > :47:37.and you marked me one morning. You will never play against anybody as
:47:38. > :47:41.quick. We did it for real. George Graham had to split us up at one
:47:42. > :47:45.stage. John turned up as a baby at the club, it is a habit of behaviour
:47:46. > :47:49.you want through the club. There is talk of Eddie Howe, they have a
:47:50. > :47:54.league table for those matches, they have a vote for the worst player. I
:47:55. > :47:57.don't know if I would go that far, I don't want to kill confidence and
:47:58. > :48:02.you get political voting from some players. But you have to have that
:48:03. > :48:06.edge to training sessions. Could win the Champions League with a third
:48:07. > :48:14.side. Another tough man for you, but not so many fond memories of
:48:15. > :48:16.Liverpool. Christian Benteke will lead the Palace line against his
:48:17. > :48:24.former club after one troubled season on Merseyside.
:48:25. > :48:36.Benteke. Well, that sums up his afternoon. He can't mess, can he? He
:48:37. > :48:46.can! -- miss. It has been a transformation. Christian Benteke,
:48:47. > :48:49.in front of the Kop. What a goal. Even Jurgen Klopp said he was right
:48:50. > :48:53.to sell him but he feels he will score today. A classic example, a
:48:54. > :48:58.player bought by another manager, doesn't fit the system even though
:48:59. > :49:03.they get on? Brendan Rodgers brought him in, he was very sought after
:49:04. > :49:09.when he was bought. ?27 million. I think he is a player that doesn't
:49:10. > :49:16.quite fit into Jurgen Klopp's high press. I don't think his Achilles
:49:17. > :49:22.injury helped. He is now at the Palace. Alan Pardew put his arm
:49:23. > :49:27.around him. He'll get the best out of him. Along with Andy Carroll, one
:49:28. > :49:31.of the finest headers of the ball we have seen in the Premier League.
:49:32. > :49:36.Capable of a great leap. That injury has hampered him a little bit.
:49:37. > :49:39.Palace have been rocking again, just as we think they are turning the
:49:40. > :49:45.corner. It might be an opportunity to get their story back on the road.
:49:46. > :49:48.He made his name at Aston Villa, and tomorrow they face a tasty tussle
:49:49. > :49:52.with a Birmingham City side lying seventh in the table in the
:49:53. > :49:55.Championship. They are looking forward to facing their archrivals
:49:56. > :50:02.in the league for the first time in five years. Mark Clemmit has been
:50:03. > :50:07.for some fun in Brum. For the cameras, labs, come on. Final
:50:08. > :50:11.preparations for the big second city derby, the Birmingham City manager
:50:12. > :50:15.is already celebrating. Not only is it his 100th game in charge, today
:50:16. > :50:27.marks the second anniversary of his appointment.
:50:28. > :50:39.Excuse fingers, I could not let... I thought you might have had a slice.
:50:40. > :50:45.That is my team for the weekend that you have messed up. Two years of
:50:46. > :50:49.extreme financial turmoil, former owner incarcerated. How tough has it
:50:50. > :50:56.been? It has not been easy, some challenges. This division has
:50:57. > :51:01.some... It is almost like Premier League 2, in terms of the finances
:51:02. > :51:06.people are spending to try to get into the Premier League. When you
:51:07. > :51:10.see what has been going on, nine new manager is appointed, five have been
:51:11. > :51:16.sacked already. When news like that breaks, and you are here with your
:51:17. > :51:26.staff, you must be shaking your head? Anyone has been in the game
:51:27. > :51:30.for long enough feels a little bit disconsolate at times to see so much
:51:31. > :51:35.change. It is like everything. If I had to work for ten years and build
:51:36. > :51:38.money up, then I invest in something, there will be an element
:51:39. > :51:42.where I want that to be successful, I am not going to stand there and
:51:43. > :51:47.not have success and make money, all I am wasting what I tried to
:51:48. > :51:54.achieve. 100th game, you know how I write the script, your first derby
:51:55. > :51:59.as a manager? It could be a nice story. As we go, games and opponents
:52:00. > :52:04.get in the way and you have to go and get a result. It is going to be
:52:05. > :52:07.difficult, Aston Villa are on the up, with Steve in charge. I hope we
:52:08. > :52:11.are talking about the football at the end, these local games can have
:52:12. > :52:15.a bit of spice for the fans. Hopefully we can live up to that and
:52:16. > :52:21.perform. In high-pressure environments, that is the challenge.
:52:22. > :52:26.You might think that is it for our trip to Birmingham City. No. One of
:52:27. > :52:29.the players that has given us a rare opportunity to talk to him at home,
:52:30. > :52:33.come with me and meet Clayton, pepper, Hendrix and Percy the
:52:34. > :52:45.cockatoo. What a picture of domestic bliss. I
:52:46. > :52:48.don't know whether to talk to you, stare at you, give us the family
:52:49. > :52:56.history. How long have you been together? How long have we been
:52:57. > :53:02.together? Ten years. 11 years? I will give you that one! Did I drop
:53:03. > :53:10.you in it? Do you suffer from nerves? Big game at the weekend? Not
:53:11. > :53:14.so much nerves. It will be a totally different atmosphere, something I am
:53:15. > :53:21.not used to. We're not playing those games every week. You can't help but
:53:22. > :53:26.have the occasion getting into your bones? People all around you have a
:53:27. > :53:30.vested interest? Of course, the start of the season, leading up to
:53:31. > :53:35.the game, that is all we have heard, really. The Aston Villa game, the
:53:36. > :53:40.fans and everybody connected to Birmingham has been talking about
:53:41. > :53:45.it. Hopefully we just try and get a good start, settle the nerves. If we
:53:46. > :53:48.can get on the ball and get the crowd behind us, because we are at
:53:49. > :53:58.home, hopefully we can put the pressure on the Aston Villa players.
:53:59. > :54:05.A lovely family moment. A big hello to the whole family, I think the
:54:06. > :54:09.clan are watching, including Little Hendrik. A fascinating game this
:54:10. > :54:13.weekend. You throw in the Aston Villa effect, Steve Bruce being a
:54:14. > :54:17.former Birmingham manager, the game is always a big one when they play
:54:18. > :54:24.and they have had to wait a while to meet in the league. The second city,
:54:25. > :54:27.bragging rights are huge. Suddenly, Aston Villa, Birmingham have parity
:54:28. > :54:32.with them. They will want to win, I have played in this game if you
:54:33. > :54:35.count myself and it is tricky for the Aston Villa players. Bruce, the
:54:36. > :54:44.history he has got, Gary Rowett is doing a great job. Seventh in the
:54:45. > :54:51.table, Villa are 16th, which is unthinkable. But on the other, two
:54:52. > :54:55.wins in a row for Steve Bruce? Yes, he took Hull into the Premier
:54:56. > :55:00.League, not out of the game long. Vast experience and he will do well.
:55:01. > :55:05.You know how tough the division is, six managers gone already people do
:55:06. > :55:06.not stay around long, which is why it is good that Gary has been there
:55:07. > :55:12.for a couple of years. A man who knows all
:55:13. > :55:14.about the highs and lows Speak to any pundit
:55:15. > :55:18.and they put him firmly A Ballon D'or winner,
:55:19. > :55:21.his management career has taken him to Newcastle,
:55:22. > :55:37.Chelsea, Feyernoord and most You buy a ball, and who owns the
:55:38. > :55:47.ball decides how long you're going to play. So, when you were losing
:55:48. > :55:51.you kept on playing, and then when you're winning you would say, now I
:55:52. > :55:55.have to go and eat. I started as a defender and then as a striker. As a
:55:56. > :56:05.defender, I know what the striker wants to do, anticipating that. And
:56:06. > :56:09.vice versa. Good players anticipate how they move their head, the best
:56:10. > :56:18.players, the very top, they anticipate even more. But they
:56:19. > :56:24.anticipate what if, what if we lose the ball before that happens? Where
:56:25. > :56:34.can I be in order to get the ball back, to do the same thing again?
:56:35. > :56:37.Dominant is also when I play counterattack, and I give you the
:56:38. > :56:42.Paul Connolly think you are dominant, but I just wait for the
:56:43. > :56:45.right moment. So may times people say, but we had 70% possession! It
:56:46. > :56:51.doesn't count, that is what I wanted. We want always to control
:56:52. > :56:55.the game. If I am counterattack, like Leicester played, who is
:56:56. > :56:57.dominant? It is Leicester, even with less possession, they were dominant
:56:58. > :57:11.because you did exactly what they wanted. You have boxers like this as
:57:12. > :57:15.well, they wait for you to open up. Then you are proactive. There are
:57:16. > :57:19.players that can take that command, because I can scream at people but
:57:20. > :57:21.they don't hear me. You need somebody on the pitch that
:57:22. > :57:28.understands the game and can then talk to players, like Roy Keane had
:57:29. > :57:34.it, even a goalkeeper like Peter Schmeichel did that. It is important
:57:35. > :57:39.to have people that understand the game, talking to players about it
:57:40. > :57:44.during the game. So you, as a coach, it is easy for you as a coach. What
:57:45. > :57:47.I learned in football is that you don't need to like each other, but
:57:48. > :57:56.you need to respect each other. That is the most important thing. Every
:57:57. > :58:04.person is an asset to a certain event, in life. Therefore, respect
:58:05. > :58:09.each other and we can all grow from this. This game gave me everything.
:58:10. > :58:12.I just play respect to the game. Always nice to hear from him.
:58:13. > :58:17.We're live from Westfields FC in Hereford next Saturday
:58:18. > :58:22.After the fireworks from Fuchs last weekend, we'll leave
:58:23. > :58:30.Christian Fuchs! Leicester supporters have been waiting for
:58:31. > :58:48.that. And he's scored from an incredible
:58:49. > :58:53.angle! What a goal! Shoots... That is quite brilliant!
:58:54. > :59:13.Water goal! -- what a goal. Will Konchesky try one? What a goal! Like
:59:14. > :59:27.a rocket. Johnson! Stunning goal! That's amazing, from inside his own
:59:28. > :59:30.half! That is Roberto Carlos-esque. That's in! Mario Rodriguez! My
:59:31. > :59:35.goodness! Great short!
