0:00:07 > 0:00:10A very warm welcome to you on FA Cup Fourth Round weekend.
0:00:10 > 0:00:12It is a wet and miserable weekend.
0:00:12 > 0:00:15We are live for the next hour as the world's oldest club
0:00:15 > 0:00:17competition comes to the world's oldest professional club.
0:00:17 > 0:00:19This is Meadow Lane, the home of Notts County.
0:00:19 > 0:00:22And this is Football Focus.

0:01:02 > 0:01:07It's fair to say there's history at this football club. 155 years old
0:01:07 > 0:01:11rate.
0:01:11 > 0:01:16Founded in 1862, no club has played more league games and Notts County.
0:01:16 > 0:01:24From the very bottom, to the top tier, this place has seen it all.
0:01:24 > 0:01:29It's a goal! Notts County into the lead!More ups and downs than anyone
0:01:29 > 0:01:37else. 13 promotions, 16 relegations. Administration. Almost liquidation.
0:01:39 > 0:01:44But they're still here, the Magpies, making Meadow Lane memories.
0:01:44 > 0:01:49Juventus even got their stripes from Notts, who helped to open their new
0:01:49 > 0:01:57stadium. FA Cup history, plenty of that, too. They even won it in 1894,
0:01:57 > 0:02:01the first second division club to do so. And they've scared a few of the
0:02:01 > 0:02:07big boys since then, too. Gascoigne's lost it on the edge of
0:02:07 > 0:02:12the area! What a fantastic goal! Some fine managers have passed
0:02:12 > 0:02:19through here. The great Jimmy Cyrille, the most successful. And
0:02:19 > 0:02:24this manager is doing pretty well so far. It's in! It could be the last
0:02:24 > 0:02:31kick of the game! There's a new chapter waiting to be written. At
0:02:31 > 0:02:33professional football's oldest club.
0:02:38 > 0:02:40That is proper history, isn't it?
0:02:40 > 0:02:43The legendary voice there of BBC Radio Nottingham's Colin Slater,
0:02:43 > 0:02:45who's covered more than 2,500 Notts County matches.
0:02:45 > 0:02:53He will be here today. A bit of light drizzle at Meadow Lane,
0:02:53 > 0:02:57perfect FA Cup conditions. As we start our first little wonder on
0:02:57 > 0:03:03Football Focus, this will be our home throughout the day. They take
0:03:03 > 0:03:08on Swansea later on. Famous faces. Jake Bugg, fan, he will be on later.
0:03:08 > 0:03:12Neil Warnock, one of the former managers, Sam Allardyce and his
0:03:12 > 0:03:15protege Kevin Nolan is currently the man in the dugout. We will talk
0:03:15 > 0:03:22about him later. We love a crowd on Football Focus.
0:03:22 > 0:03:24On we go then, to the Broken Wheelbarrow.
0:03:24 > 0:03:28We love a crowd! Lets say good afternoon to the regulars. CHEERING
0:03:28 > 0:03:36Look at them all. I think they're ready. Can we say a warm welcome to
0:03:36 > 0:03:41Alex Scott and Kevin Kilbane? APPLAUSE
0:03:44 > 0:03:52Let's just get this out of the way early! How many FA Cups?Do you want
0:03:52 > 0:04:00me to answer that? Zero, as you know.I think about nine.Just about
0:04:00 > 0:04:06nine!It feels like a great occasion ready for a great FA Cup tie today.
0:04:06 > 0:04:09You can tell, as a player coming here to play it is always hard to
0:04:09 > 0:04:13come away because the fans here are so passionate. Like we have already
0:04:13 > 0:04:17seen so far. It will be a great day. We have done so many on the road and
0:04:17 > 0:04:21we've never had a reception like this.Never been to Nottingham
0:04:21 > 0:04:24before, Kevin, that's why. Every time we go on the road with you, you
0:04:24 > 0:04:29have some sort of connection, surely there is something with Notts
0:04:29 > 0:04:33County?I thought this morning, there is no link. I've only played
0:04:33 > 0:04:37at the ground, that's it. Unfortunately this time I can't
0:04:37 > 0:04:42produce anything for you.Leading from Notts County throughout the
0:04:42 > 0:04:47day. -- plenty more.
0:04:47 > 0:04:49Here's what's coming up.
0:04:49 > 0:04:53On his first week in the job, we say hi to Javi the Hornet.
0:04:53 > 0:04:58Welcome to England! It is windy! Now you understand why the English talk
0:04:58 > 0:05:01about the weather all the time!I am new but I am happy here.
0:05:01 > 0:05:04Then catch up with Liverpool's conqueror, Carlos.
0:05:04 > 0:05:12I believe after the Liverpool game, maybe, 20 people in 100 will say
0:05:12 > 0:05:15maybe these guys can stay in the Premier League.Whisper it
0:05:15 > 0:05:16quietly...
0:05:16 > 0:05:21Forest's Leehi, on how Eric got his dog.
0:05:21 > 0:05:26I convinced some of the guys to put Eric a dog in a #And some of the
0:05:26 > 0:05:29guys tweeted it. We have the dog and he is super cute.
0:05:29 > 0:05:30Wigan's Cook craving a Cup upset.
0:05:30 > 0:05:36And we pay tribute to the one and only Jimmy Armfield.
0:05:37 > 0:05:43And it's Albert having a chase with Jimmy Armfield, he is winning, as he
0:05:43 > 0:05:48wins most of the chases, Armfield.
0:05:48 > 0:05:52We'll also hear from guitar weilding Notts County fan Jake Bugg later on,
0:05:52 > 0:05:55but we'll start with some cold hard FA Cup action.
0:05:55 > 0:05:58Don't go anywhere, watch us on Football Focus for the next hour.
0:05:58 > 0:06:00The fourth round is already under way,
0:06:00 > 0:06:02with a couple of ties taking place last night.
0:06:02 > 0:06:04Manchester United, complete with new signing Alexis Sanchez
0:06:04 > 0:06:06headed to Yeovil, and this is what happened.
0:06:06 > 0:06:09Some idiot left his coat in Yeovil, which is why I'm only wearing a
0:06:09 > 0:06:15jumper but this is what happens. -- what happened.
0:06:18 > 0:06:20COMMENTATOR: This is an opportunity!
0:06:21 > 0:06:25Jordan Graham, three years ago, he was stacking shelves throughout the
0:06:25 > 0:06:29night in a supermarket with the first chance of the game.A glorious
0:06:29 > 0:06:34opportunity.
0:06:35 > 0:06:38opportunity. Rashford. It is congested. Yeovil didn't deal with
0:06:38 > 0:06:45it. Marcus Rashford took the gift to give Manchester United the lead,
0:06:45 > 0:06:47five minutes before half-time.
0:06:50 > 0:06:57Two over here. Rashford is also joining in. Sanchez has options.
0:06:57 > 0:07:05Herrera. It is 2-0. Just as he did three years ago, Ander Herrera
0:07:05 > 0:07:11scores.Look at Rashford. International sprinter. He ignores
0:07:11 > 0:07:15him, gives it to Herrera and great composure and quality of that left
0:07:15 > 0:07:25foot, beautiful strike. -- quality off that left foot. 3-0! Lingard.
0:07:25 > 0:07:29Simple as that, to finish off a professional, efficient evening for
0:07:29 > 0:07:34Manchester United.Quality finish from the young man.
0:07:35 > 0:07:42Herrera.
0:07:42 > 0:07:48Rojo trying to square it bought Lukaku. In the dying seconds. Romelu
0:07:48 > 0:07:52Lukaku comes off the bench to score. Manchester United have their fourth
0:07:52 > 0:08:00of the night. We will talk about Sheffield Wednesday against Reading.
0:08:00 > 0:08:04Alexis Sanchez gave the ball away a lot last night although awarded Man
0:08:04 > 0:08:08of the Match. He did. Watching Manchester United over the last few
0:08:08 > 0:08:12years if you're thinking before Mourinho took over from van Gaal,
0:08:12 > 0:08:16there was always safety first passes, no risk-taking. The ethos is
0:08:16 > 0:08:21about taking risks.He was going for it.Yes, I was impressed with his
0:08:21 > 0:08:25attitude that he showed. He will make mistakes like that because he
0:08:25 > 0:08:29is taking risks. That is the one thing I will want to see.Martin
0:08:29 > 0:08:31Keown was trending on Twitter because he was commentating and he
0:08:31 > 0:08:35gave the Arsenal perspective of losing Alexis Sanchez and he
0:08:35 > 0:08:38questioned why he would go to Manchester United over Manchester
0:08:38 > 0:08:41City for what he considered to be the best chance of winning
0:08:41 > 0:08:45silverware under the best manager, he called him a mercenary. What is
0:08:45 > 0:08:49your take? At the end of the day, it is still Man United. It is still a
0:08:49 > 0:08:54top team. I don't know. He goes to Man United and he will most likely
0:08:54 > 0:08:58be in the starting line-up every week. I don't believe he would be
0:08:58 > 0:09:03that in Man City.I am with Alex. He is going to a huge club. Potential
0:09:03 > 0:09:07to build over the next couple of years. We know where City are, we
0:09:07 > 0:09:12know that Guardiola will work with fabulous players but it is still
0:09:12 > 0:09:19Manchester United. We don't know how long Alexis Sanchez will be there.
0:09:19 > 0:09:22Jose Mourinho says he doesn't stay at clubs for a longest amount of
0:09:22 > 0:09:26time, three season, bit of turnover. Do you think he is settled and will
0:09:26 > 0:09:29he be at Old Trafford for quite a while?I do, I think he has backing
0:09:29 > 0:09:34and he is building the squad. He is bringing in players he wants to. Man
0:09:34 > 0:09:38United going forward look a strong unit, now. He has the final piece of
0:09:38 > 0:09:42the puzzle with Alexis Sanchez. Regardless of contract, if United
0:09:42 > 0:09:48don't win, he will be gone over the next couple of years. The contract
0:09:48 > 0:09:50has secured his future and stability for the players, that's all.Another
0:09:50 > 0:09:54man making headlines this week, Phil Neville.
0:09:54 > 0:09:56Also making the headlines this week the appointment of Phil Neville,
0:09:56 > 0:09:58who will lead England's women until 2021.
0:09:58 > 0:10:01He'd been in the job less than 24 hours before he was forced
0:10:01 > 0:10:04to apologise over three tweets he sent back in 2012.
0:10:04 > 0:10:06The FA say he won't face any disciplinary action.
0:10:06 > 0:10:09You have had a couple of days to think about this. It is an important
0:10:09 > 0:10:12job for somebody who doesn't have that much managerial experience.
0:10:12 > 0:10:14Alex, what have you made of the way the appointment
0:10:14 > 0:10:16has been handled?
0:10:16 > 0:10:21From the start, maybe it could have been handled a lot better. From the
0:10:21 > 0:10:24FA?Yes. If they had been more open and transparent about the
0:10:24 > 0:10:27application process and why they had to deviate. People might not have
0:10:27 > 0:10:31agreed with it, but may be understood more about the situation.
0:10:31 > 0:10:35Look at the top three candidates in the running that are in women's
0:10:35 > 0:10:38football, regarded very highly, when they were informed that an extensive
0:10:38 > 0:10:42background check would be taken, they dropped out of the process.
0:10:42 > 0:10:49That shows me that Phil Neville, at this moment in time, was brave
0:10:49 > 0:10:51enough, knowing the scrutiny he would be under, to take that job.
0:10:51 > 0:10:54There is no excusing the tweets and everything that has come out, nobody
0:10:54 > 0:10:58should ever joke about domestic violence. As human beings, we all
0:10:58 > 0:11:02make mistakes, we should learn and grow as people. At some stage, we
0:11:02 > 0:11:06have to move on from that and let's judge him now on football. In your
0:11:06 > 0:11:11mind, from this day forward, he is the right person for the job?It is
0:11:11 > 0:11:15always hard, once the three candidates dropped out it would be a
0:11:15 > 0:11:19tough job. Mark Sampson took a team ranked 14th to third in the world,
0:11:19 > 0:11:23Phil Neville has a hard job. He comes from a winning background. His
0:11:23 > 0:11:27family is full of winners. Maybe that's the final piece of the puzzle
0:11:27 > 0:11:31that this England team need.Would there be genuine excitement with the
0:11:31 > 0:11:36squad of England players?Would that be the case? Yes. If Phil Neville is
0:11:36 > 0:11:43coming in and I am still an England player, you know the environment he
0:11:43 > 0:11:46has been in, he had won a lot of things, I would be thinking, what
0:11:46 > 0:11:49can I take? In the meetings with Alex fibres, what did he know and
0:11:49 > 0:11:52what can he passed onto me? There would be things that I am excited by
0:11:52 > 0:11:55-- Sir Alex Ferguson. Some of the language reflects badly on Phil
0:11:55 > 0:11:58Neville and the FA, this process never came up when they were vetting
0:11:58 > 0:12:03candidates.Given what Alex talked about, the amount of scrutiny around
0:12:03 > 0:12:07all of the candidates in for the job, the background checks. I would
0:12:07 > 0:12:11be so sure that would have any sort of influence over how well you will
0:12:11 > 0:12:14coach a side. Everyone has made mistakes across their life and they
0:12:14 > 0:12:18will be judged. That will be brought into public view. I don't
0:12:18 > 0:12:21necessarily agree with that whatsoever, but that is how the FA
0:12:21 > 0:12:26want to go about things. I think it is harsh, personally. Phil made
0:12:26 > 0:12:31mistakes, we know he has made mistakes. Anyone that knows him
0:12:31 > 0:12:36knows full well there is no malice in him whatsoever. Yes, it is a
0:12:36 > 0:12:40mistake edited in the public domain right now but I wouldn't judge him
0:12:40 > 0:12:43for any of that.
0:12:43 > 0:12:44Back to the FA Cup, though.
0:12:44 > 0:12:46Fourth-round action last night at Hillsbrough too,
0:12:46 > 0:12:50between Sheffield Wednesday and Reading.
0:12:50 > 0:12:53A goal either side of half time from Atdhe Nuhiu set Wednesday
0:12:53 > 0:12:56on their way to a 3-1 victory.
0:12:56 > 0:12:57That was the first goal.
0:12:57 > 0:13:00George Boyd made sure with a third after the hour mark, before Reading
0:13:00 > 0:13:03got one back, courtesy of a Cameron Dawson own goal.
0:13:03 > 0:13:04Wednesday go through.
0:13:04 > 0:13:06Today's first fourth-round tie gets under way shortly.
0:13:06 > 0:13:07At London Road.
0:13:07 > 0:13:10These are the scenes at London Road, where Peterborough face
0:13:10 > 0:13:12Leicester at 12:30pm.
0:13:12 > 0:13:15Ten changes, Jamie Vardy on the bench, the same sort of side they
0:13:15 > 0:13:16played against Fleetwood.
0:13:16 > 0:13:18And the much-coveted Jack Marriott starts for Peterborough.
0:13:18 > 0:13:20He's scored 24 goals in 39 appearances this season,
0:13:20 > 0:13:22more than double Jamie Vardy's tally.
0:13:22 > 0:13:26And he's scored in every round so far.
0:13:26 > 0:13:28And that's the first of 12 ties taking place today.
0:13:28 > 0:13:30After knocking out the holders, Nottingham Forest,
0:13:30 > 0:13:34not Notts, go to Hull.
0:13:34 > 0:13:42Sorry that we have dimensioned Nottingham Forest, everybody. BOOING
0:13:42 > 0:13:46Does that work every time, Nottingham Forest? BOOING I thought
0:13:46 > 0:13:47so.
0:13:47 > 0:13:49Coventry, who beat Stoke in round three, head to MK Dons.
0:13:49 > 0:13:52Later on, Newport County face Spurs, before Liverpool take on West Brom.
0:13:52 > 0:13:55The live BBC game tomorrow is Warnock verses Guardiola in Cardiff.
0:13:55 > 0:13:58But before that, Javi Gracia takes charge of Watford for the first time
0:13:58 > 0:13:59for their trip to Southampton.
0:13:59 > 0:14:02Marco Silva was given the elbow last weekend after one win in 11
0:14:02 > 0:14:03in the Premier League.
0:14:03 > 0:14:06Senior Gracia is the 10th head coach in six years.
0:14:06 > 0:14:08Mark Clemmit was there to meet him.
0:14:08 > 0:14:16If I was to say to you, who is Javi Garcia, what would you say?I was a
0:14:16 > 0:14:20professional football player in Spain for 15 years. Now, as a coach,
0:14:20 > 0:14:25want a different experience. I am here to enjoy this league, this
0:14:25 > 0:14:30country and football.Welcome to England!It's a windy day today.Now
0:14:30 > 0:14:33you understand why we English always talk about the weather all the time.
0:14:33 > 0:14:38I knew about it. In Spain, it's better, sunny days, you know, but
0:14:38 > 0:14:44I'm really happy here. You go and get cold, I'll get a cup of coffee!
0:14:46 > 0:14:50You are very hands-on in the middle of everything, directing.Yeah, I
0:14:50 > 0:14:56want to be part of training. I like to enjoy my profession. You are
0:14:56 > 0:15:02still a frustrated player, though, aren't you?
0:15:02 > 0:15:06You're still a frustrated player?I miss a lot football playing. Now I'm
0:15:06 > 0:15:12a coach. Is it easy to drop into a club like
0:15:12 > 0:15:17Watford and start immediately?It's easy because Watford is like a
0:15:17 > 0:15:29family. I feel pretty happy here. They've made me feel like home, then
0:15:29 > 0:15:37it is easy to do our work here. And the style, I mean, are you kind
0:15:37 > 0:15:42of attacking, defensive, what can we expect?I want to play well. To play
0:15:42 > 0:15:48well is good attack, good defence, good transition, good set pieces. I
0:15:48 > 0:15:53think to play well is all. COMMENTATOR: Watford have ?
0:15:53 > 0:15:58been uninspiring. The cruelty of Premier League football.
0:15:58 > 0:16:04It's all gone wrong for Watford. Boos at Vicarage Road. Watford on
0:16:04 > 0:16:08the brink of an alarming slump. It say it is all.
0:16:08 > 0:16:15I have to show you Carlisle United's most famous ever left-back and it is
0:16:15 > 0:16:21good to have some knowledge of England, Javi? Does it help?Of
0:16:21 > 0:16:27course. He does well with England language. He doesn't have problems
0:16:27 > 0:16:30to communicate with the players. He will be OK.
0:16:30 > 0:16:34How did you deal with the players? They went home on Saturday night
0:16:34 > 0:16:39with one manager in charge, they come in on Monday morning, there's a
0:16:39 > 0:16:47new coach in charge?I can say, when I arrived they have a very good
0:16:47 > 0:16:50billionaire and a great commitment with the club.
0:16:50 > 0:16:56You do know there have been quite a few coaches over the last few years,
0:16:56 > 0:17:00how does it affect your thinking?I don't think about the circumstances
0:17:00 > 0:17:05or how long I will be here. I enjoy day by day the present. I think it
0:17:05 > 0:17:08is the better behaviour in which to do my work.
0:17:08 > 0:17:12That's what it felt like watching you out there today. It was very
0:17:12 > 0:17:15easy for you to get straight on with the job.
0:17:15 > 0:17:19I'm like this. I don't have two faces, you know.
0:17:19 > 0:17:24I live like I'm on the pitch and I'm the same way on the street.
0:17:24 > 0:17:28What is the owners said to you about what they want you to do this
0:17:28 > 0:17:34season?They want to improve the level.
0:17:34 > 0:17:40I agree with the values of the club. . I try to improve in this moment.
0:17:40 > 0:17:44I'm only worried about the session, the matches. It is my obsession in
0:17:44 > 0:17:48this moment. Well, good luck. It's very nice to
0:17:48 > 0:17:55meet you. Thank you! Thank you!If you are
0:17:55 > 0:18:01turning on it is Football Focus.
0:18:01 > 0:18:08We are in the Broken Wheelbarrow. Talking about Watford, Kevin, a
0:18:08 > 0:18:11couple of weeks ago, everyone was talking about the previous manager
0:18:11 > 0:18:15being one of the great young managers in the game, now he is
0:18:15 > 0:18:22gone?I was looking back, David Moyes' first game at Watford for
0:18:22 > 0:18:29West Ham. Jason Burt from the Telegraph was with us. I was keen to
0:18:29 > 0:18:33stress, his record was not too dissimilar to the last season. He
0:18:33 > 0:18:37said he was the perfect professional for the club. Bringing an attacking
0:18:37 > 0:18:42brand of football. Delighted with the way that the persona he is
0:18:42 > 0:18:45coming across and the direction bringing the club in, two months
0:18:45 > 0:18:50down the line, he is gone. Has it changed that dramatically in
0:18:50 > 0:18:54two months, where he is leaving his post? I don't get it.
0:18:54 > 0:19:00Is it because we are not used to the system the way that it works? There
0:19:00 > 0:19:05is no loyalty. It is fine for them at the club it is stable but from
0:19:05 > 0:19:08their perspective, the head coach is dispensable. To change that system,
0:19:08 > 0:19:13that is where they change it. They bring in a new person. They are not
0:19:13 > 0:19:18dropping out of the Premier League? That is true but maybe as the
0:19:18 > 0:19:24managers coming in, they know they are dispensable, so those are the
0:19:24 > 0:19:29managers that they are attracting, they know that they will be there
0:19:29 > 0:19:33for a season, a couple of seasons, so maybe they have to rethink the
0:19:33 > 0:19:39structure. If you look at the next bunch of
0:19:39 > 0:19:47fixtures, from the Watford perspective, from seeing him, he is
0:19:47 > 0:19:50a very hands-on manager, maybe he cab pick up the points to get them
0:19:50 > 0:19:56up the table? They have an attacking side. I have been impressed watching
0:19:56 > 0:20:03them. They have shifted goals. But they are exciting. Dabbing othery is
0:20:03 > 0:20:08one of the most outstanding players. So they have a chance.
0:20:08 > 0:20:13But now they have more pressure on them -- Dacori.
0:20:13 > 0:20:20I think coming in mid-way through the season he has time. It is not
0:20:20 > 0:20:28until next season that people demand to see the impressions he is making.
0:20:28 > 0:20:36It should be good. And another league?They can have a
0:20:36 > 0:20:42hit today. He can play the attacking style. You watch at the moment,
0:20:42 > 0:20:48there is a lack of goals, that's where they are struggling.
0:20:48 > 0:20:53So, how do you feel about Swansea today? So, not a big boo. Just
0:20:53 > 0:20:59gentle. And Swansea took on Liverpool at the
0:20:59 > 0:21:03Liberty on Monday night. COMMENTATOR: Here is ?
0:21:03 > 0:21:09an illustration of the Gulf between the teams, Swansea scoring 22 goals,
0:21:09 > 0:21:12and Salah has scored more for Liverpool than the entire Swansea
0:21:12 > 0:21:16team. Here is Salah for Liverpool.
0:21:16 > 0:21:19A difficult technique in the penalty area.
0:21:19 > 0:21:24Five minutes to half-time. Here is the corner. A decent delivery, into
0:21:24 > 0:21:32the back of the net! By Alfie Moreson. Swansea lead Liverpool 1-0.
0:21:32 > 0:21:37What about this. What a goal this will be. He put it wide. That would
0:21:37 > 0:21:41have been a sparkling goal for Liverpool. This is Van Dyk. In the
0:21:41 > 0:21:48box. Firmino, he's hit the post. Scoring a rebrowned.
0:21:48 > 0:21:54Sensational. Liverpool, remarkably, have gone from beating the league
0:21:54 > 0:22:00leaders one week, to being beaten by the bottom club the next.
0:22:00 > 0:22:06Swansea, one, Liverpool, nil. So, a remarkable result. Juliette
0:22:06 > 0:22:12Ferrington has been spending time with the boss.
0:22:13 > 0:22:19Christmas Eve, you leave the job, that's rubbish, isn't it?It was the
0:22:19 > 0:22:26job but I don't lose my dignity, my pression profession, nothing about
0:22:26 > 0:22:34my self-. I have self-confidence. When someone says they are not
0:22:34 > 0:22:38happy, you must go, think they are losing a good coach. Since the
0:22:38 > 0:22:43period of Sheffield, e-I receive a call from Swansea, I receive
0:22:43 > 0:22:46invitations from England and from the championship, I have to tell the
0:22:46 > 0:22:54truth. Received invitation from Japan,
0:22:54 > 0:22:58Turkey, from the United steaks. We are talking about maybe 12 hours or
0:22:58 > 0:23:02maybe 20 hours in which the telephone was ringing.
0:23:02 > 0:23:07Your phone must have been going mad?!So, it was happening very
0:23:07 > 0:23:13fast. It happens very fast in football.
0:23:13 > 0:23:18Saved by the goalkeeper. Carlos Carvalhal. He may Welling
0:23:18 > 0:23:23collecting three points in the first match in charge! What did you see in
0:23:23 > 0:23:28Swansea when you came here? When I arrived here I know the things in
0:23:28 > 0:23:31general. I don't know so much in particular.
0:23:31 > 0:23:38But when I started going deep inside to analyse the team individual and
0:23:38 > 0:23:45the qualities, all of the time me and other coaches were surprised.
0:23:45 > 0:23:50A good burst into the penalty area. It's a fine goal!We came to the
0:23:50 > 0:24:00club. I spoke with the chairman. The first thing that I did when arriving
0:24:00 > 0:24:06to Swansea, I put the people that work in the team around the team,
0:24:06 > 0:24:11the kitmen, the physios, everybody, sports, science, everyone together,
0:24:11 > 0:24:15and said to them that they have a very important role in the club.
0:24:15 > 0:24:19Everybody is saying that the players are not good, that the team is not
0:24:19 > 0:24:23good. It is between us, between me and the players. With you and the
0:24:23 > 0:24:28players, we have a power to put the players and make them happy or not
0:24:28 > 0:24:33happy. You deal with them all the time if you create a positive
0:24:33 > 0:24:36environment in the building, they will be more happy.
0:24:36 > 0:24:40Van Dyk and a header! Into the back of the net.
0:24:40 > 0:24:45What is the belief now in Swansea? You said that Swansea will stay in
0:24:45 > 0:24:51the Premier League. So a month down the line, what do you think? In this
0:24:51 > 0:24:58moment, I believe, after the Liverpool game, maybe 20 persons
0:24:58 > 0:25:04will say that maybe they can stay in the premiere. But still 20, I
0:25:04 > 0:25:10believe that 80 will say that we are relegated, that it is difficult to
0:25:10 > 0:25:15stay in the premiere, because the word I hear when I arrived in the
0:25:15 > 0:25:24first press conference, not from me, was "miracle." I refuse the word
0:25:24 > 0:25:31"miracle" it is something that we have in our hands. It depends on the
0:25:31 > 0:25:36persons, not depending on other help. We can do that.
0:25:36 > 0:25:46In that moment I look to the people in front of me, the journalists, and
0:25:46 > 0:25:51well, you are a nice guy, it could be possible.
0:25:51 > 0:25:56Now I like to their face, they look to me with more...Maybe, just
0:25:56 > 0:26:02maybe?We are in the position of maybe.
0:26:02 > 0:26:10I don't know if you were counting, looking at this beautiful shot. That
0:26:10 > 0:26:14was a four-minute interview, with only four questions asked. He is man
0:26:14 > 0:26:19that loves to talk. Character! It is working with Carlos
0:26:19 > 0:26:24Carvalhal.And the other day, he referred to Liverpool as a Formula
0:26:24 > 0:26:29One car. If you put it in London it can't go anywhere in the traffic. I
0:26:29 > 0:26:34thought he talks sense. But results is what counts. You
0:26:34 > 0:26:39can't argue with that, for a team in bother.
0:26:39 > 0:26:43They got the results the other night. Talking about a Formula One
0:26:43 > 0:26:47car, if you suggest it, you make it difficult for them. That can stop
0:26:47 > 0:26:53them. It was a 4-6. Six lads at the back. Difficult to break down. But
0:26:53 > 0:26:56an amazing result. The way that Liverpool played against Manchester
0:26:56 > 0:27:02City the week before, how good they were. It was a huge result. It could
0:27:02 > 0:27:08have massive knock-on effect for them.
0:27:08 > 0:27:13That's what it is. That can reinvigorate them now to get them
0:27:13 > 0:27:18going towards the end of the season. Here today, from a Swansea
0:27:18 > 0:27:22perspective, Notts County are doing well in the league with a few shaky
0:27:22 > 0:27:26results in recent week but this is a tough one. They are facing a side
0:27:26 > 0:27:29who know how important the competition is, they have history.
0:27:29 > 0:27:33They will be desperate to get the better of Swansea? They know it will
0:27:33 > 0:27:37be a tough game. But they will have to be organised. Ensure that they
0:27:37 > 0:27:41come with the right mentality. If you give Notts County a sniff at
0:27:41 > 0:27:44anything today, they will take it. They're a good side.
0:27:44 > 0:27:50There are two or three in the draw. This is one it could be a shot key.
0:27:50 > 0:27:55You fancy Notts County, given the home form, how good they have been.
0:27:55 > 0:27:59And from a Liverpool perspective it is classic Liverpool. To play like
0:27:59 > 0:28:04they did against Manchester City, and lose against Swansea. From a
0:28:04 > 0:28:07Liverpool's fan's point of view you think, if we could just click every
0:28:07 > 0:28:11week. Your words, not mine! I didn't say
0:28:11 > 0:28:17that. But you see them over the years, they have done it. When the
0:28:17 > 0:28:21sides have defended the penalty area, the side is deep against them,
0:28:21 > 0:28:26they can't break down and struggle. There is no different plan that
0:28:26 > 0:28:30Jurgen Klopp imports to the side to get the results.
0:28:30 > 0:28:35They took the Liverpool pace away by defending deep.
0:28:35 > 0:28:40And this is a beautiful stadium. There between the stands, there is
0:28:40 > 0:28:48the City Ground. Three weeks ago played host round three as Forest
0:28:48 > 0:28:54knocked out the hold earths, Arsenal.
0:29:03 > 0:29:06Three weeks ago, it played host to arguably the game of round three,
0:29:06 > 0:29:08as Forest knocked out holders, Arsenal.
0:29:08 > 0:29:11Two of their four goals came from USA intenational Eric Lichaj,
0:29:11 > 0:29:12a brace that, following a social media campaign,
0:29:12 > 0:29:14earned him a new dog.
0:29:14 > 0:29:16He told his side of the story to Rachel Stringer.
0:29:16 > 0:29:21ARCHIVE: The whistle is going. We try to entertain, you never know,
0:29:21 > 0:29:29John, you and your profession might recognise that we are a good side.
0:29:31 > 0:29:34This would once have been regarded as a glamour game but with forest
0:29:34 > 0:29:38being out of the game for almost two decades, it gives younger followers
0:29:38 > 0:29:40a taste of what used to be.
0:29:42 > 0:29:47Thanks for inviting us to your home, what did you know about the FA Cup
0:29:47 > 0:29:49from being American?Over the years I could see how important it is,
0:29:49 > 0:29:54it's a big competition with a lot of history. It's really good. I would
0:29:54 > 0:29:59love to win something, I haven't won anything in England.Trying to catch
0:29:59 > 0:30:05him out and he has done. It is Eric Lichaj celebrating and Forest fans
0:30:05 > 0:30:09are bouncing.What are your memories of that game?I don't know,
0:30:09 > 0:30:12everything fell into place, Gardos mangles, the luckiest thing ever,
0:30:12 > 0:30:17but it did happen. It was a really nice moment -- I got two goals, the
0:30:17 > 0:30:24luckiest thing.Eric Lichaj going for another! Eric Lichaj scores two
0:30:24 > 0:30:29and what about that second one? That was pretty awesome, everybody loved
0:30:29 > 0:30:34that goal. I am sure it will stay in Forest's fans memories in a while.
0:30:34 > 0:30:38Be the best goal I will score in my career, I don't think I will have a
0:30:38 > 0:30:41better one. I have been told by all the fans walking around Nottingham
0:30:41 > 0:30:44and by my family and everything how good it was. It was a special
0:30:44 > 0:30:47moment.There's a story going around but if you got a hat-trick in a
0:30:47 > 0:30:54game, your wife would buy you a dog. Yeah. It started with the interview
0:30:54 > 0:30:58after the game. My wife said if I got a hat-trick I get to get a dog I
0:30:58 > 0:31:00mention that and the next day I persuaded some of the guys to
0:31:00 > 0:31:07include in a hashtag get Eric a dog and tweaked my wife pictures of
0:31:07 > 0:31:12dogs. Forest fans, to be fair to them, bombarded her with tweets. My
0:31:12 > 0:31:15wife got over 1000 messages, she had to charge her phone three times in
0:31:15 > 0:31:19that day from just getting messages about dogs and pictures of dogs will
0:31:19 > 0:31:24stop she has given in and we got a dog, he is super cute. We were kind
0:31:24 > 0:31:29of joking about naming it, like, football banter or after Arsenal
0:31:29 > 0:31:36players. And then they said we should name at gun, that is a really
0:31:36 > 0:31:42good name for a dog and it stuck. -- name it can! Garner. How she
0:31:42 > 0:31:45promised you anything else if you get a hat-trick in this game?Some
0:31:45 > 0:31:48people said I would probably get another dog and I would be open to
0:31:48 > 0:31:51that because I want a really big dog as well, that might be the next one.
0:31:51 > 0:31:56I need to talk to her before the game starts.Cat is from Birmingham,
0:31:56 > 0:32:00your wife, had he picked up any Birmingham 's traits or slang words?
0:32:00 > 0:32:08-- have you picked up.I don't want to say. They strong. Whenever she
0:32:08 > 0:32:15talks to her friends or her family, it comes out. She says a few things
0:32:16 > 0:32:20like shut up, bab..Just signed a new contract, exciting?Yes, really
0:32:20 > 0:32:23exciting. Hopefully I will be here for years to come and hopefully get
0:32:23 > 0:32:27this team in the Premier League. That is my main goal in coming here.
0:32:27 > 0:32:29Great to hear from Eric.
0:32:29 > 0:32:35#EricHasADog is definitely the hash tag of the year.
0:32:35 > 0:32:39We are in the belly of the stadium here, all black and white, of
0:32:39 > 0:32:42course. Dressing rooms, home and away, round the corner. We will walk
0:32:42 > 0:32:46the same walk that the players do just before 3pm as they make their
0:32:46 > 0:32:50way towards the pitch at Meadow Lane. Notts County taking on
0:32:50 > 0:32:54Swansea. We talked about Swansea, let's reflect the home side. This is
0:32:54 > 0:33:01their pre-and post match interview room against the boards.
0:33:01 > 0:33:03Two of Notts County's finest have joined us.
0:33:03 > 0:33:08Very warm welcome to Jon Stead and Shola Ameobi.
0:33:08 > 0:33:12Good afternoon. Thank you for braving the weather.
0:33:12 > 0:33:15Jon, you've been here three years and seen a fair amount of change.
0:33:15 > 0:33:18But this place feels like it's heading in the right direction.
0:33:18 > 0:33:21Definitely. The first couple of years were a bit up and down,
0:33:21 > 0:33:24fighting with relegation places and difficult times for the club but
0:33:24 > 0:33:28since the new owner has come in, the manager and new players, things are
0:33:28 > 0:33:34looking up.Referenced a new player, I want you to answer this question
0:33:34 > 0:33:37without any football cliches if that is possible. You have done thousands
0:33:37 > 0:33:40of football interviews before, but here you are with Notts County
0:33:40 > 0:33:45taking on a Premier League side. How are Notts County approaching this
0:33:45 > 0:33:51today, no cliches allowed! LAUGHTER First and foremost, we are excited.
0:33:51 > 0:33:59You can see the buzz around the place all week. We have a lot of
0:33:59 > 0:34:03experienced players who play at high levels. It's just another game. It
0:34:03 > 0:34:10is an FA Cup, it is something that... You know... We're not
0:34:10 > 0:34:15looking ahead of ourselves. We know it will be a tough task. But, listen
0:34:15 > 0:34:21comments again...LAUGHTER I tried not to use cliches, it is
0:34:21 > 0:34:28hard. It is very hard.I said, what are you still doing playing, why are
0:34:28 > 0:34:32you still playing, but do you enjoy that, passing your experience on? I
0:34:32 > 0:34:35saw your game against Sunderland for Bradford a few seasons ago when you
0:34:35 > 0:34:38were excellent that day as well. Do you enjoy passing your experience
0:34:38 > 0:34:43onto the players like you were doing at Bradford as well probably?Of
0:34:43 > 0:34:47course we have a good group of players, we have a good mix of
0:34:47 > 0:34:51old... Not old, experienced players! & Young extremely talented players
0:34:51 > 0:34:55as well. It is good for the likes of myself to pass on that knowledge and
0:34:55 > 0:35:02anything you can help along the way. Does Kevin Nolan allow you to try
0:35:02 > 0:35:07and Marshall be dressing room on his day off? Or is the more of a
0:35:07 > 0:35:11hands-on manager?He is definitely hands-on when he needs to be.
0:35:11 > 0:35:13LAUGHTER T.I.N.A. He likes the dressing room
0:35:13 > 0:35:16to be between the players when possible. Anything that can be dealt
0:35:16 > 0:35:23with by ourselves, then we get it sorted.Nipped in the bud before it
0:35:23 > 0:35:28becomes a problem. The good thing is that he has characters in that
0:35:28 > 0:35:31dressing room, the right sort of characters. He has built a team and
0:35:31 > 0:35:36a squad that he feels can stand up to the pressures of the league and
0:35:36 > 0:35:40these types of games. I think that's what he's done very well. It's up to
0:35:40 > 0:35:48us as senior players to make sure that we show the right way to go.
0:35:48 > 0:35:51You have scored a lot of goals in the FA Cup already, that memorable
0:35:51 > 0:35:58one against Chelsea. Are you hoping to replicate one of those again?
0:35:58 > 0:36:01Hopefully, I will take any goal today, especially if it gets off
0:36:01 > 0:36:05their resolve and through to the next round. That was a special
0:36:05 > 0:36:12moment.What about the keeper? It was such a quick snapshot, the power
0:36:12 > 0:36:18was incredible.This is the last round against Brentford.It should
0:36:18 > 0:36:24have been my left foot! I picked the wrong foot when I was a kid. Great
0:36:24 > 0:36:27goals and occasions and we look forward to another massive task. But
0:36:27 > 0:36:31who says we can't do it?We had to dig into the archives for one of the
0:36:31 > 0:36:37FA Cup goals. LAUGHTER We have gone back to 2005, semifinal
0:36:37 > 0:36:41against Manchester United. Have you enjoyed this competition over the
0:36:41 > 0:36:45years?It hasn't actually been that great for us, for me, with my career
0:36:45 > 0:36:51at Newcastle. We didn't tend to get that far in club competitions, which
0:36:51 > 0:36:54is obviously disappointing. But that was a great highlight for me, as a
0:36:54 > 0:36:59young kid. You always dream of semifinals, playing in finals.
0:36:59 > 0:37:04Unfortunately we didn't win but I managed to get a goal.
0:37:04 > 0:37:07Five-a-side with your mates.
0:37:07 > 0:37:11Can you play?It is completely banned. It is all short and sharp,
0:37:11 > 0:37:17no good for me.You can always try the people's up if you don't get in
0:37:17 > 0:37:18with the FA Cup.
0:37:18 > 0:37:21have a look at this.
0:37:22 > 0:37:26The nation's biggest five-a-side competition is back with a bang for
0:37:26 > 0:37:332018. The FA buzz people's cup is fun, free and open to everyone. With
0:37:33 > 0:37:3718 different categories. And there is a trip to Wembley for the winners
0:37:37 > 0:37:43who get to lift trophy at half-time on FA Cup final day. The 2017
0:37:43 > 0:37:49edition proved to be a massive hit. The memories I way I will forget.
0:37:49 > 0:37:55Look at us, we are in our hockey kit! We are going to Wembley! Its
0:37:55 > 0:37:59draft of my age to get excited, but that is what walking football does
0:37:59 > 0:38:06for you. It's good to be walking and playing football, we just enjoy it.
0:38:06 > 0:38:10I love playing football again, it's very uplifting.Do you have what it
0:38:10 > 0:38:13takes to win the FA People's Cup? You may surprise yourself. Register
0:38:13 > 0:38:16your team now.
0:38:18 > 0:38:20Well worth signing up for.
0:38:20 > 0:38:23And you can keep track of events here this afternoon on Final Score,
0:38:23 > 0:38:25before watching all of today's fourth-round goals on FA
0:38:25 > 0:38:26Cup Match of the Day.
0:38:26 > 0:38:29More live football tomorrow afternoon.
0:38:29 > 0:38:32Cardiff and Manchester City is on BBC One and there are more
0:38:32 > 0:38:39highlights tomorrow night from 10:30pm on BBC One.
0:38:39 > 0:38:42Football was sadly mourning the loss of one of the true
0:38:42 > 0:38:43gentleman, this week.
0:38:43 > 0:38:45The former Blackpool and England captain Jimmy Armfield
0:38:45 > 0:38:46passed away aged 82.
0:38:46 > 0:38:50You might not have seen him play, but so many loved listening to him
0:38:50 > 0:38:51during his 40 years on the radio.
0:38:51 > 0:38:53And watching him in his heyday.
0:38:53 > 0:38:56A voice of authority and kindness.
0:38:56 > 0:39:00And intelligence. Everybody loved listening to Jimmy.
0:39:00 > 0:39:03This is Jimmy's story told by colleague and friend,
0:39:03 > 0:39:06John Murray.
0:39:11 > 0:39:16One thing I learned as I got older, all things change. Invariably for
0:39:16 > 0:39:20the better, despite what people say. And yet, I believe I might have
0:39:20 > 0:39:25played at the best time.Disarmingly ordinary and yet unfailingly
0:39:25 > 0:39:31extraordinary, James Christopher Armfield will never be forgotten by
0:39:31 > 0:39:35anyone who watched him, listened to him or knew him. He was born in
0:39:35 > 0:39:39Manchester, that is forever bonded to Blackpool, the town he moved to
0:39:39 > 0:39:44during the Second World War and never left. In 1954, he made his
0:39:44 > 0:39:47Blackpool debut, playing right full-back. In front of him, Stanley
0:39:47 > 0:39:50Matthews, who he had watched in perhaps the most famous cup final
0:39:50 > 0:39:55just a year before. We all went. Yeah, they took us down on the day
0:39:55 > 0:40:00and we didn't have a seat. We stood up on the Kop. Everybody's dream was
0:40:00 > 0:40:04for Stanley Matthews to get his cup medal. It became known as the
0:40:04 > 0:40:11Matthews final. Stan Mortensen scored a hat-trick.I love the goal!
0:40:11 > 0:40:16Stan Matthews was the talisman. I still think he is England's best
0:40:16 > 0:40:19ever player. It is good at getting himself in possession of the ball
0:40:19 > 0:40:23because he was quite often double marked. That is how we always start
0:40:23 > 0:40:29of the overlapping full-back game. It was pioneering stuff. Soon,
0:40:29 > 0:40:32others want to Jimmy. Manchester United among his suitors. Jimmy
0:40:32 > 0:40:34never played for any club at Blackpool and became their record
0:40:34 > 0:40:41appearance maker. -- for any club except Blackpool.Albert having a
0:40:41 > 0:40:45chase with Armfield. Armfield winning as he wins most of the
0:40:45 > 0:40:50chases.He excelled not just for town but country, too, voted best
0:40:50 > 0:40:57right back in England's 1962 World Cup campaign.Armfield, perfect
0:40:57 > 0:41:01interception.He captained England just a fortnight before the 1966
0:41:01 > 0:41:05World Cup. But then injury struck. Meaning he would watch on as a squad
0:41:05 > 0:41:10member...Some people are on the pitch, they think it's although the!
0:41:10 > 0:41:17It is now! -- it is all over!It is strange, all the players who were
0:41:17 > 0:41:21not there were thrilled. I know they were. They can say whatever they
0:41:21 > 0:41:26like, they wanted to play, but they were thrilled. The reserves are on!
0:41:26 > 0:41:30There's Jimmy Armfield.People look back and they say, remember the
0:41:30 > 0:41:34World Cup squad? It's not the same as being in the 11 who played in the
0:41:34 > 0:41:38final. But the point was it was better that they won. It is now,
0:41:38 > 0:41:43more than ever, isn't it?On to football management, next. And he
0:41:43 > 0:41:48was a success at Bolton before following Brian Clough's turbulent
0:41:48 > 0:41:53spell at Leeds, leading them to the 1975 League Cup final. Jimmy's deep
0:41:53 > 0:41:57knowledge and love for the game took into journalism and broadcasting
0:41:57 > 0:42:03will stop and in the art of radio summary, again, he led the way.The
0:42:03 > 0:42:06most difficult summarising job I've ever done was the World Cup final in
0:42:06 > 0:42:12America. No cover, in the open air, don't know what the temperature was,
0:42:12 > 0:42:17it was boiling. And the match, watched better matches in the likes
0:42:17 > 0:42:26of combination. Frankly, so uncomfortable.That was incredible!
0:42:26 > 0:42:30Baggio should mesh. But even the great players feel tension. --
0:42:30 > 0:42:34should miss.He never lost his love of England, he was a key figure in
0:42:34 > 0:42:37the appointments of national team managers Terry Venables and Glenn
0:42:37 > 0:42:45Hoddle. His love for the game was only surpassed by that for his wife,
0:42:45 > 0:42:48Ann and his family. He was a popular and friendly man and what I would
0:42:48 > 0:42:53call the absolute epitome of a football man.Somebody asked me
0:42:53 > 0:42:56once, when you see yourself now, don't you wish you had all the
0:42:56 > 0:43:00television programmes they had when you were playing? And I thought
0:43:00 > 0:43:06about it for a minute. And I said, not so sure, really. I said it's
0:43:06 > 0:43:17probably better to let them think I was a half decent player!
0:43:17 > 0:43:19What a man he was. A story so beautifully told.
0:43:19 > 0:43:22Our thanks to 5 Live football correspondent John Murray
0:43:22 > 0:43:23for that wonderful tribute.
0:43:23 > 0:43:25Two of Jimmy's 5 Live colleagues join us now.
0:43:25 > 0:43:27Senior football reporter, Ian Dennis and former England
0:43:27 > 0:43:28winger, Chris Waddle.
0:43:28 > 0:43:31Worked with Jimmy many times over the years. Such an outpouring of
0:43:31 > 0:43:36affection for the man. I know it sounds trite, but he was just a nice
0:43:36 > 0:43:42man, gentlemen lovely to work with. He possessed every endearing trait
0:43:42 > 0:43:46you could wish for in a human being. He was a very special person,
0:43:46 > 0:43:50wonderful person. Two quick stories that tell you how people thought of
0:43:50 > 0:43:55him and have fought for he was. In 2007, after his first battle with
0:43:55 > 0:43:58cancer, we turned up at a game together at the Reebok Stadium and
0:43:58 > 0:44:02there was a letter on Manchester United headed paper that said,
0:44:02 > 0:44:06"Welcome back, we've missed you, Alex and Bobby". From Sir Alex
0:44:06 > 0:44:09Ferguson and Bobby Charlton. Manchester United were not even
0:44:09 > 0:44:12playing that day, it was bolted against Aston Villa. It meant the
0:44:12 > 0:44:20world to Jimmy, he typed it in his jacket and he moved on. That was how
0:44:20 > 0:44:23highly he was thought of people in the game. A voice always relevant
0:44:23 > 0:44:25and respected and always with great authority. How thoughtful his -- he
0:44:25 > 0:44:31was. In dormant, 2006, my first World Cup game. The press box at
0:44:31 > 0:44:34Dortmund, it was quite forward on this occasion and the sunshine was
0:44:34 > 0:44:39beating down. At half-time I was as red as a beetroot. Jimmy said, lad,
0:44:39 > 0:44:43you will suffer with sunstroke. He got his handkerchief out, he tied it
0:44:43 > 0:44:47into knots and put it on my head and it was one guy was on Blackpool
0:44:47 > 0:44:51beach but he saved me from sunstroke. He was a special person.
0:44:51 > 0:44:59You lied about sunstroke on that day. -- you learnt about sunstroke.
0:44:59 > 0:45:06He was intelligent, he knew so much about the game and loved it.You
0:45:06 > 0:45:12think of his career, manager, working for the FA for 20-odd years.
0:45:12 > 0:45:17For me, he was great. Basically, when I started, obviously my legs
0:45:17 > 0:45:21started to go, and I started to get into the media, he was a great help,
0:45:21 > 0:45:27obviously with the radio. I got a lot of help from him, not like
0:45:27 > 0:45:33Denno! So much help and advice. I never saw him cross. He never raised
0:45:33 > 0:45:37his voice. He was always calm and collected.
0:45:37 > 0:45:44And a great sense of humour. Lovely stories telling, one, where he was
0:45:44 > 0:45:49under strain, Howard, he looked around a room and asked how many
0:45:49 > 0:45:58caps did they have? Jimmy was in the room and piped up saying "43! Cope."
0:45:58 > 0:46:04It shows the measure of the man?He would turn into the press box with
0:46:04 > 0:46:09his notebook and how the teams would do, he thought, that day. And there
0:46:09 > 0:46:14would be a tap on the knee if I commented well, saying not bad. A
0:46:14 > 0:46:18wonderful man. He will be greatly missed.
0:46:18 > 0:46:22He really will be. And I suppose, Chris, it is about the modern play
0:46:22 > 0:46:29player. I liked to listen to his reflections on modern players. And
0:46:29 > 0:46:33what could we learn from Jimmy Armfield. You know the game has
0:46:33 > 0:46:37changed vastly, not just on but off the field. But he went along with
0:46:37 > 0:46:43the times. He always gave advice. If you needed advice about the game,
0:46:43 > 0:46:54coaching, he was always available.
0:46:54 > 0:46:56And there'll be minute silence here today for Jimmy Armfield,
0:46:56 > 0:46:58for Cyrille Regis, and for the former Barnsley
0:46:58 > 0:47:00owner Patrick Cryne, who sadly died this week
0:47:00 > 0:47:01at the age of 66.
0:47:01 > 0:47:03Cryne was a lifelong Barnsley fan and custodian of
0:47:03 > 0:47:08the club for 14 years.
0:47:08 > 0:47:14Let's return to the FA Cup.
0:47:14 > 0:47:17Wigan Athletic won this competition five years ago and seem to be moving
0:47:17 > 0:47:18in the right direction.
0:47:18 > 0:47:21They are top of League 1 and Ayo Akinwolere has been to see
0:47:21 > 0:47:23a side eyeing up West Ham.
0:47:23 > 0:47:29COMMENTATOR: Brilliant night ? for Wigan. They have knocked out
0:47:29 > 0:47:34this team and are to play West Ham. There is what a real sense, a
0:47:34 > 0:47:39fearlessness about Wigan. How would you describe your managing style?
0:47:39 > 0:47:43Certainly not fearless. That is for sure. As a young
0:47:43 > 0:47:47manager, I wanted to make the supporters happy. To get on to the
0:47:47 > 0:47:53pitch, to be aggressive. To try to play football and also win the game.
0:47:53 > 0:48:00. He is obviously a top manager but it is the enfuture, the confidence,
0:48:00 > 0:48:04the man-management. He knows how to get the best out of the players.
0:48:04 > 0:48:08They have the faith and the belief in him.I don't think anything
0:48:08 > 0:48:14phases him. We go out there every week, when we have the bowl we want
0:48:14 > 0:48:18to play exciting football and excite the fans, I think that is what we
0:48:18 > 0:48:23did against Bournemouth.He's a great guy. I don't think he sleeps.
0:48:23 > 0:48:28As soon as he comes in, every week, we are better and better. We are
0:48:28 > 0:48:34sitting top. Fourth round of the FA Cup against West Ham at home and
0:48:34 > 0:48:43possibly going into the fifth round. Watching him here, you get no sowns
0:48:43 > 0:48:50of nerves. You feel it is a -- you get no sense of nerves, it's a team
0:48:50 > 0:48:56running high on confidence. From the summer, we had a really good group.
0:48:56 > 0:49:00It's a great team spirit. The lads, and we feel we can do something
0:49:00 > 0:49:04special. We feel there is another gear to go to.
0:49:04 > 0:49:13COMMENTATOR: Taking from ? the corner, headed in.
0:49:14 > 0:49:19They have won the FA Cup. Unbelievable looking back at what
0:49:19 > 0:49:24happened that day. As we had suffered the relegation a few days
0:49:24 > 0:49:29after, it was clouded over. But what a day. It lives long in my memory.
0:49:29 > 0:49:33Obviously being in the Premier League but ask any Wigan fan, that
0:49:33 > 0:49:39is the one, the FA Cup, the Ben Watson goal. It's the biggest thing.
0:49:39 > 0:49:45I played for Wigan many years ago at Springfield park. If someone said we
0:49:45 > 0:49:49would win the FA Cup at Wembley, I think we would have been all put
0:49:49 > 0:49:52away. But it is there. It's in the history now.
0:49:52 > 0:49:58Whether people can say what they like about the club for good or bad
0:49:58 > 0:50:03but everyone clamour, all of the clubs clamour to win major trophies,
0:50:03 > 0:50:07Wigan have won one. That is great credit to the club.
0:50:07 > 0:50:10After the Bournemouth game, you must feel you have a chance to beat West
0:50:10 > 0:50:20Ham?If you can sit there, to see what is happening with the coaches.
0:50:20 > 0:50:27It influences you. You want to win the game.
0:50:27 > 0:50:31I will be going into the game as we did against Bournemouth, thinking we
0:50:31 > 0:50:38have a great chance of winning. What about the end of the season?
0:50:38 > 0:50:42All of it. I'll take the double.
0:50:42 > 0:50:47League promotion, without a shadow of a doubt.
0:50:47 > 0:50:49Lovely to hear from that lavement
0:50:49 > 0:50:50Lovely to hear from that
0:50:50 > 0:50:52A reminder of all of this weekend's FA Cup fixtures.
0:50:52 > 0:50:54Wigan host West Ham, Tony Pulis' Middlesbrough
0:50:54 > 0:51:02will fancy their chances at home to Brighton.
0:51:02 > 0:51:09At the top, Leicester are all right winning to Peterborough.
0:51:09 > 0:51:11Tomorrow Chelsea, who lost to Arsenal in the semifinal
0:51:11 > 0:51:13of the League Cup in midweek, host Newcastle.
0:51:13 > 0:51:14And Manchester City, who overcame Bristol City
0:51:14 > 0:51:16to reach that final, go to Cardiff.
0:51:16 > 0:51:23We have moved back into the lounge area.
0:51:23 > 0:51:29What next? Well, what Paul Cook has done at Wigan has been exceptional.
0:51:29 > 0:51:36Getting to the top of League 1. And the longest unbeaten run. They
0:51:36 > 0:51:40are in great form. Yes but it is how they play. The style will suit them.
0:51:40 > 0:51:47They will not be phased by the game. And Newport County against Spurs? A
0:51:47 > 0:51:51couple of weeks ago, if you are a regular watcher, we had Michael
0:51:51 > 0:51:56Flynn on the show. This is what he said about the game.
0:51:56 > 0:52:00Beating Leeds was my highlight because I can enjoy that game.
0:52:00 > 0:52:06It was due to how we work, getting into that position. What happened at
0:52:06 > 0:52:10the end of last season was obviously more important for the Football
0:52:10 > 0:52:14Club, you can see the struggles, Hartlepool going, it could have been
0:52:14 > 0:52:19us. We are fortunate. But we are working hard to improve
0:52:19 > 0:52:28and that's what we will always do. And Newport to be in the fifth round
0:52:28 > 0:52:33draw.
0:52:43 > 0:52:47You may have heard a dribble of applause that is because I'm
0:52:47 > 0:52:55delighted to say, we have been joined by... Mark Crossley! Oh, yes,
0:52:55 > 0:53:00the ascentant manager and the Notts County chairman, Alan Hardy.
0:53:00 > 0:53:07If you are on social media, I left my coat and pants in Yeovil. Alan,
0:53:07 > 0:53:10you provided me with Notts County pants. Nice of you. But the game
0:53:10 > 0:53:14itself. You have a smile on your face. It must be delighted to have a
0:53:14 > 0:53:20team like Swansea? This is what dreams are made of. The guys deserve
0:53:20 > 0:53:26it. It is days like this that we look forward to.
0:53:26 > 0:53:31We have seen Jon Stead and FA Cup magic. Mark, you saw off Gary
0:53:31 > 0:53:36Lineker in 1991. How many times have you watched this over the years?
0:53:36 > 0:53:42Probably about 500!That is just this week!And the favourite sat,
0:53:42 > 0:53:48you are the only man ever to save a penalty from Matt Le Tissier.
0:53:48 > 0:53:5449 out of 50?That's right. Something that I am proud of. Well
0:53:54 > 0:53:57known for saving penalties. A good guesser.
0:53:57 > 0:54:02Something that I am proud of to be in the record books for saving
0:54:02 > 0:54:06penalties. We have heard about the talk, the
0:54:06 > 0:54:10way that Kevin Nolan has done things at the club, what is your experience
0:54:10 > 0:54:14of working with him?I was at the club when Kevin came. We said we
0:54:14 > 0:54:20would give it two months, to see how it goes. We have taken to each other
0:54:20 > 0:54:25well. We like working with each other. He has an awe about him. He
0:54:25 > 0:54:29was a leader on the pitch and stepping into the dressing room, it
0:54:29 > 0:54:33goes silent, people know that the manager is in the office.
0:54:33 > 0:54:38Alan, I've been talking to the fans about since you came in and took
0:54:38 > 0:54:43over, they feel you have rejuvenated the club. How do you feel?It is
0:54:43 > 0:54:46great to hear that but my job was to engage in the community. Hopefully,
0:54:46 > 0:54:54that's what I have done. There is a special offer on next Saturday, two
0:54:54 > 0:55:01for Crewe. So £2, adults or juniors, to fill the place out, so hopefully
0:55:01 > 0:55:07get 16 or even up to 18,000 here. How does the promotion work?We have
0:55:07 > 0:55:16about 14,000 at the momentWe had 15500 in 2011 but hopefully we will
0:55:16 > 0:55:21break the record this year. We were at Fleetwood last redundant
0:55:21 > 0:55:25and they are dreaming of success in the future. What are you you are
0:55:25 > 0:55:29plans?To get promoted this year. And next year stabilise in League 1.
0:55:29 > 0:55:34Then go again but the three-year plan is the championship.
0:55:34 > 0:55:42Mark, we have spoken about Jon Stead and am owly, some managers when
0:55:42 > 0:55:48making their way into football or new in like Kevin is, they are
0:55:48 > 0:55:53intimidated by experienced players in the dressing room but not with
0:55:53 > 0:55:58Kevin, he has embraced the experienced players?Yes. Kevin has
0:55:58 > 0:56:04players he knows and trusts. It has been a massive part of the success.
0:56:04 > 0:56:08They are great pros, the lads in the dressing rooms, and the younger lads
0:56:08 > 0:56:14look up to them. It has worked well for us.
0:56:14 > 0:56:18They have been a massive influence. And Mark, what is the message to the
0:56:18 > 0:56:23players?We have had a normal game plan like we do for a normal league
0:56:23 > 0:56:27game. It is like going out there, have a go as much as you can,
0:56:27 > 0:56:30really. We have nothing to lose. We are against a Premier League side.
0:56:30 > 0:56:35We know that they will have a lot of the bowl. But for sure, they will
0:56:35 > 0:56:39have a black and white shirt in their face for 90 minutes.
0:56:39 > 0:56:47Thank you very much. A big round of applause for our guests.
0:56:47 > 0:56:52APPLAUSE Lovely to have you gone, guys.
0:56:52 > 0:57:02Kevin, Alex, always nice to spend time with you as well.
0:57:08 > 0:57:13Now, some applause for Sam, Seth and George. These guys play for the
0:57:13 > 0:57:18Notts County Academy. We said we would play Jake Bugg, so, who is
0:57:18 > 0:57:26going to win today?Notts County. Score line prediction?3-2.5-06789
0:57:26 > 0:57:33He is going big!2-06789 OK, finish Football Focus for us.
0:57:33 > 0:57:44Ready when you are...Here is Jake Bugg on why he loves Notts County.
0:57:44 > 0:57:50Perfect. See you everybody.
0:57:50 > 0:57:52# Morning, it's another pure grey morning
0:57:52 > 0:57:54# Don't know what the day is holding
0:57:54 > 0:57:55# When I get uptight
0:57:55 > 0:57:59# And I walk right into the path of a lightning bolt
0:57:59 > 0:58:04When I was a kid I played football. Then I played the guitar and fell
0:58:04 > 0:58:10out of football. But I was a fan and I started following it again. It
0:58:10 > 0:58:15rekindled my love. Every Saturday it is based around the team. And
0:58:15 > 0:58:18Tuesday if they are playing. It means a lot.
0:58:18 > 0:58:23When they have Manchester City in the FA Cup a few seasons ago at
0:58:23 > 0:58:30home, we drew 1-1. Then losing 5-0 in the replay. But it was great. We
0:58:30 > 0:58:38scored first. Brilliant to see the stadium packed out. My favourite
0:58:38 > 0:58:45memory is with the whole season, and there was a high, there was a bit of
0:58:45 > 0:58:49a scandal. But we are on a high again.
0:58:49 > 0:58:54That is what being a fan is about, the highs and the lows and sticking
0:58:54 > 0:58:59with the team through all of it I sponsor Notts County as it is
0:58:59 > 0:59:04great to support your team. They have been good to me. Amazing. It's
0:59:04 > 0:59:08a great collaboration that's really worked. Good luck, lads. Looking
0:59:08 > 0:59:10forward to watching you play.
