0:00:07 > 0:00:10Previously. This season is under way! Lewis Hamilton wins! Fernando

0:00:10 > 0:00:20Alonso wins. Lewis Hamilton it never want to give up.

0:00:20 > 0:00:20

0:00:20 > 0:02:42Apology for the loss of subtitles for 142 seconds

0:02:42 > 0:02:48We have become rather familiar with that look. And after a few thousand

0:02:48 > 0:02:53miles, 11 races, four winners, only one Championship leader. From the

0:02:53 > 0:02:57start, that man has been Sebastian Vettel. For the first time can he

0:02:57 > 0:03:04win at Spa and conquer one of the most famous circuits in Formula

0:03:04 > 0:03:09One? Two men here who know how it feels to be on the top step at Spa.

0:03:09 > 0:03:15David, a you won the big homes, Silverstone, Monaco, where does

0:03:16 > 0:03:21this rank in your list of achievements? He has dominated from

0:03:22 > 0:03:26the beginning and David Coulthard wins in Belgium!

0:03:26 > 0:03:30No question, places so historic and I am extremely proud to have one

0:03:30 > 0:03:37here. It is an incredible race track and that is one When I am

0:03:37 > 0:03:41most proud. Mack it was not just a win, it was dominant, which is

0:03:41 > 0:03:48special for you guys. Mainly because McLaren were so dominant

0:03:48 > 0:03:54that year. I had to beat me to Hakkinen and we had a hostel at the

0:03:54 > 0:03:59first corner and I went. Talking at famous circuits like this, if we

0:03:59 > 0:04:03look at the calendar, we are going to Delhi for the first time,

0:04:03 > 0:04:08Singapore, is there still a place left for these famous bald circuits

0:04:08 > 0:04:15where the infrastructure is not as -- is not the same as the new

0:04:15 > 0:04:19places? I and the other extreme, I say there must be a place -- I am.

0:04:19 > 0:04:23I am an advocate for the French Grand Prix, because this is where

0:04:23 > 0:04:32the historic moment started and without this foundation, we would

0:04:32 > 0:04:36not have as strong as -- a Formula One. There is no benchmark if we

0:04:36 > 0:04:41are only racing in places like Delhi and Singapore. It is

0:04:41 > 0:04:46important to have historic places, these modern places will become

0:04:46 > 0:04:51historic, but things like Spa and Silverstone, you have to have them

0:04:51 > 0:04:56on the calendar, they are great. is a great play, the fans turn up

0:04:56 > 0:05:00in their thousands because they will know -- because they know they

0:05:00 > 0:05:06will get entertainment. There is something here that none of the

0:05:06 > 0:05:16teams can control, the weather. My advice, if you are planning a trip

0:05:16 > 0:05:36

0:05:36 > 0:05:41As you can see, the drivers are ready for what could be a wet day.

0:05:41 > 0:05:47It is not raining now but do not trust it, it could rain any second.

0:05:47 > 0:05:53It makes it difficult for teams, over the practice sessions, we had

0:05:53 > 0:06:0115 minutes of dry weather so there are plenty of one known ofs. One of

0:06:01 > 0:06:04the important things is to get information on the tyres. This

0:06:04 > 0:06:09strike is over seven kilometres. They do not know how far these

0:06:09 > 0:06:15tyres can go and so they have qualified and the journey into the

0:06:15 > 0:06:19unknown will begin in 50 minutes. We will see the qualifying report

0:06:19 > 0:06:27in a minute and it is very easy to get things wrong working out his

0:06:27 > 0:06:31strategy with the weather, how easy is it, you have been there? He

0:06:31 > 0:06:36might be the Championship leader, but I do not want to be run down!

0:06:36 > 0:06:40It is always difficult because you can second-guess. You never know.

0:06:40 > 0:06:46You look at the cloud and think you can get it right, you can never get

0:06:46 > 0:06:51it right here. The other extreme is pit dried out quick but because the

0:06:51 > 0:06:57circuit is so big and undulating, it tries in one sector and not the

0:06:57 > 0:07:01other. How do you cope with the tyre selection? This is a complete

0:07:01 > 0:07:05fools paradise. You never know way you will get and also have to be

0:07:06 > 0:07:10lucky. These cars have done well to get to the end with their front

0:07:10 > 0:07:15wings attached because all sorts of things were going on, it is truly

0:07:15 > 0:07:24mad when it is wet here. Plenty of the guys telling Ding Sebastian

0:07:24 > 0:07:33Vettel would like rain because it throws in a variable. -- plenty of

0:07:33 > 0:07:43the guys here. Sebastian Vettel does not need to win another race

0:07:43 > 0:07:46

0:07:46 > 0:07:51to be champion, look how far ahead I imagine it is unusual David

0:07:51 > 0:07:55Coulthard and Martin are no longer driving a Grand Prix car, but

0:07:55 > 0:08:03yesterday they were in a dry commentary box and the circuit was

0:08:03 > 0:08:10not that. This is Lee McKenzie. And rain or shine, Spa always

0:08:11 > 0:08:14throws up surprises, but nobody expected quite as early a shock. As

0:08:14 > 0:08:19he left the pit lane, Michael Schumacher lost a wheel, he had no

0:08:19 > 0:08:28control and smashed into the barriers. There is no reason to

0:08:29 > 0:08:36blame anybody, we all try it our best. And Paul de West Star was

0:08:36 > 0:08:43left as a spectator, and not very happy. -- Paul di Resta. I was told,

0:08:43 > 0:08:46we hate to tell you this, but somebody is quicker. I am not of --

0:08:46 > 0:08:54I am not aware of the situation around me, I do as I am told.

0:08:54 > 0:08:57Adrian Sutil made Inc -- made a mistake, debris on the track saw

0:08:57 > 0:09:02the red flag, out but with over six minutes on the clock, there was

0:09:02 > 0:09:10everything to play for. Jenson Button got his timing is wrong and

0:09:10 > 0:09:14was the next big name to fall. misunderstanding. I did my first

0:09:14 > 0:09:19lap and I did not know I have no more laps left, massively

0:09:19 > 0:09:24disappointing. There was an incident between of Lewis Hamilton

0:09:24 > 0:09:30and Pastor Maldonado resulting in boat heading to the stewards with

0:09:30 > 0:09:34their own version of what happened. From what I saw, it was quite

0:09:34 > 0:09:40dangerous and I have never had that experience since I have been

0:09:40 > 0:09:48raining -- racing. But I am not here to look at the footage, I do

0:09:48 > 0:09:53not know if it was just an accident. Lewis said that you swiped across

0:09:53 > 0:09:57the front of him, do you agree? do not. For the stewards gave

0:09:57 > 0:10:01Pastor Maldonado a five place grid penalty and reprimanded at Lewis

0:10:01 > 0:10:07Hamilton who managed to put his damaged car into second place on

0:10:07 > 0:10:15the grid. Fernando Alonso only came eight behind Bruno Senna in his

0:10:15 > 0:10:18Renault. Death ath. I am really happy, for expected to get in the

0:10:18 > 0:10:25top 10 and the wet conditions helped, I did a lap faster than I

0:10:25 > 0:10:29did when the conditions were drier. Another driver who could not stop

0:10:29 > 0:10:34smiling was Jaime Alguersuari who qualified in sixth place. I am

0:10:34 > 0:10:38happy for my team, it is a good opportunity for tomorrow to take a

0:10:39 > 0:10:43lot of points and to keep fighting in the Championship. The track

0:10:43 > 0:10:48dried as quickly as the cars went round and pole position was traded

0:10:48 > 0:10:52between the usual suspects. Mark Webber was kept of the from road by

0:10:52 > 0:10:57Lewis Hamilton and his team-mate Sebastian Vettel got his 9th pole

0:10:57 > 0:11:02position of the season. I am very pleased because the years before, I

0:11:02 > 0:11:07messed up and I was not really happy after qualifying. But today,

0:11:07 > 0:11:12Ballack came together well and no mistakes and everything was right.

0:11:12 > 0:11:19-- the lap came together. Sebastian Vettel takes the top spot,

0:11:19 > 0:11:24Lewis Hamilton alongside and Webber third looking for his first win the

0:11:24 > 0:11:28Year. Acre we are best for Jaime Alguersuari in sixth place. And

0:11:28 > 0:11:32Sergio Perez has never started so high in ninth place, with Vitaly

0:11:32 > 0:11:40Petrov in tenth place. Jenson Button will hope for rain as he

0:11:40 > 0:11:48starts in 13th place with Rubens Barrichello alongside. The five

0:11:48 > 0:11:51place penalty for Pastor Maldonado means he is tall -- he is in 21st

0:11:51 > 0:11:54place. And for his anniversary, Michael Schumacher props up the

0:11:54 > 0:11:58grid. Serious disappointment for the

0:11:58 > 0:12:02likes of Michael Schumacher and Pastor Maldonado, but this man is

0:12:02 > 0:12:07smiling because he starts in sixth place on the grid, his best

0:12:07 > 0:12:11qualifying since he started. Where did it all go right for you

0:12:11 > 0:12:16yesterday? We did a good job since Friday because we went out in

0:12:16 > 0:12:21extreme conditions. We have always been fast and show good potential.

0:12:21 > 0:12:25The car has improved since Hungary because we brought update here. It

0:12:25 > 0:12:29looks like we are getting there, the team, myself, everything is

0:12:29 > 0:12:37getting better. We are understanding the tyres better and

0:12:37 > 0:12:41the Championship. I would say that we are better than what it was

0:12:41 > 0:12:45before. I should question you, you started the season so badly and

0:12:45 > 0:12:51were threatened with the sack, did that make the difference firing you

0:12:51 > 0:12:55up? Not really. I always had confidence in what I could do and

0:12:55 > 0:13:02the team. I knew it would be a difficult Championship because

0:13:02 > 0:13:05everything changes in Formula One. I learnt almost nothing to what it

0:13:05 > 0:13:10was this year because everything was new for me and we changed so

0:13:10 > 0:13:16many things from the set up, the mechanical set up of the car, and

0:13:16 > 0:13:23everything changed since Valencia and Monaco. And it started to come

0:13:23 > 0:13:29well. You need to adapt to the tyres because the potential... It

0:13:29 > 0:13:34is just a matter are getting the tyres together in a consistent way

0:13:35 > 0:13:39and to have won the pit stop less than the others. Whatever it is,

0:13:39 > 0:13:43you scored points in four of the last five races so congratulations

0:13:43 > 0:13:48and good luck today. So he starts in sixth place on the grid but

0:13:48 > 0:13:51alongside him is a man who did not think he was driving until

0:13:51 > 0:13:57Wednesday, Bruno Senna. He is with David.

0:13:57 > 0:14:01Your best start in Formula One, a lot of people were talking, did you

0:14:01 > 0:14:06deserve this opportunity because it was difficult to judge where you

0:14:06 > 0:14:11were last year, but this is the best way to answer those critics?

0:14:11 > 0:14:18Yes, the best way to answer criticism is to perform. And in two

0:14:18 > 0:14:23years I did not have the opportunity to show what I could do.

0:14:23 > 0:14:27And then we got to last year with the car that was not competitive.

0:14:27 > 0:14:32So it was a good experience but now I am getting the chance to go in a

0:14:32 > 0:14:36car that can be in the top 10 and fortunately on my first attempt, I

0:14:36 > 0:14:42got into seventh place and hopefully this will continue. Today

0:14:42 > 0:14:45will be a tough race, I have been driving in dry conditions with high

0:14:45 > 0:14:55fuel but a learning curve is steep and I tried to learn as fast as

0:14:55 > 0:15:03You must be setting your sights to aim for points, what is your

0:15:03 > 0:15:08realistic sight. It is hard to say, I have had a good performance in

0:15:08 > 0:15:13the wet, so the dry performance is unknown. Some people are struggling

0:15:13 > 0:15:21with the tyres. Maybe our strategy can come to us. If I get points

0:15:21 > 0:15:26today, it will be a dream come true. Good luck. Thank you, it is so nice

0:15:26 > 0:15:31to be here just as the drivers are making their way up to the cars.

0:15:31 > 0:15:35Yesterday there was also a bit of negativey during qualifying,

0:15:35 > 0:15:40involving Lewis Hamilton and Pastor Maldonado. These two have already

0:15:40 > 0:15:45become acquainted on the track this year. This is what happened in

0:15:45 > 0:15:49Monaco when Pastor Maldonado was on for his first points finish and

0:15:49 > 0:15:55Lewis give him a nudge and Pastor Maldonado didn't score points. This

0:15:55 > 0:16:01Maldonado didn't score points. This is yesterday, Lewis nicked past him

0:16:01 > 0:16:08and after this, they went around the hairpin after the checkered

0:16:08 > 0:16:13flag has dropped and somehow had a coming together. We can see it from

0:16:13 > 0:16:17Lewis Hamilton's onboard. The stewards didn't like it. And Lewis

0:16:17 > 0:16:27gets a reprimand, Pastor Maldonado a five place grid penalty. What do

0:16:27 > 0:16:33clarn and Williams make of it? Let's find out. Your reaction?

0:16:33 > 0:16:41I said the penalty. I think I was, it was a difficult moment for

0:16:41 > 0:16:48everybody. It was not on purpose. Maybe a mistake. Lewis was found

0:16:48 > 0:16:53guilty of cause - o' causing the collision as well, but he doesn't

0:16:53 > 0:16:58gate penalty. I don't know why. Both drivers were involved. If that

0:16:58 > 0:17:01is the decision, we compete and that is it. Five place penalty for

0:17:01 > 0:17:07Pastor Maldonado, nothing for Lewis, but he was guilty of causing an

0:17:07 > 0:17:12accident. Do you think that is fair? Well I don't believe he was

0:17:13 > 0:17:16guilty of causing an accident. So I believe to have not received a

0:17:16 > 0:17:21penalty that affected this race was fair. On the o' other issue of

0:17:21 > 0:17:26Pastor Maldonado that is for the stewards to decide. Relief at

0:17:26 > 0:17:32McLaren. You were clear and said at the time Pastor Maldonado should be

0:17:33 > 0:17:38banned. Having seen it a few times, do you stand by that? Well maybe

0:17:38 > 0:17:41banned was extreme, he has been lucky to get off with only a five-

0:17:41 > 0:17:47place grid drop. There is no question that it was an accident.

0:17:47 > 0:17:52It was a deliberate action to flex muscles. It takes two cars to tango,

0:17:52 > 0:17:57but he has been lucky. You can be vicious when you want to be. We

0:17:57 > 0:18:02know that Nigel Mansell is the representative. What will he have

0:18:02 > 0:18:07said from a drivers' point of view to the stewards? First, they would

0:18:07 > 0:18:12have looked at everything and have seen the on board stuff and seen

0:18:12 > 0:18:15every angle. You are looking at it here. The situation for me is the

0:18:15 > 0:18:20checkered flag has come out. They're no longer racing, but

0:18:20 > 0:18:24they're on the track. There is an obligation to be correct, this

0:18:24 > 0:18:28looks on this angle to be a bad move. However I think the judges

0:18:29 > 0:18:32may have looked back and thought about Monaco and about the way

0:18:32 > 0:18:41Lewis squeezed him on the hairpin. You don't know. But they came up

0:18:41 > 0:18:46with a set of rules and the paddock feels it was fair. And they will

0:18:46 > 0:18:51probably be nowhere near each other, Lewis is second on the grid and

0:18:51 > 0:19:00Pastor Maldonado is 21st. But for Sebastian Vettel a perfect Saturday

0:19:00 > 0:19:09for him. Nine pole positions, six wins, 234 points. Can anybody catch

0:19:09 > 0:19:14Sebastian Vettel? We keep on working. We do our thing. We're who

0:19:14 > 0:19:23we're. Thank you. The first half of the season was simple for Sebastian

0:19:23 > 0:19:29Vettel. Turn up, qualify on pole. Win the race. Go home. But just as

0:19:29 > 0:19:39there was a risk of it getting boring, Vettel started losing. To

0:19:39 > 0:19:41

0:19:41 > 0:19:45Fernando Alonso. Lewis Hamilton. And Jenson Button. The reason? Red

0:19:45 > 0:19:49Bull went the wrong way on the car's development, while others

0:19:49 > 0:19:56have caught up. Is the car back to where you want it to be after a

0:19:56 > 0:20:00couple of race, where it has bt been? -- it hasn't been? We will

0:20:00 > 0:20:06see, I think we have learned from previous praises. Understood, we

0:20:06 > 0:20:10think that we have understood a lot. So we'll see this weekend how much.

0:20:10 > 0:20:16The chasing pack are all very difficult characters, and have

0:20:16 > 0:20:22their own strengths and weaknesses. Fernando Alonso, the bull fighter.

0:20:22 > 0:20:30Lewis Hamilton quick but impel youous. But what about the struged

0:20:30 > 0:20:36Australia ran? -- the rugged Australia Mark Webber? Fernando

0:20:36 > 0:20:41Alonso if their car is quick, they have a chance. Lewis is an attacker,

0:20:41 > 0:20:46very entertaining as well. I think that is why the public you know

0:20:46 > 0:20:49love watching him. Jenson Button on the other hand is, he is thinking a

0:20:49 > 0:20:53lot more about what is going on during the race and you can see

0:20:53 > 0:20:57that on occasions come through. It is a long race on a Sunday

0:20:57 > 0:21:02afternoon and Jenson Button is better at remembering that. Who is

0:21:02 > 0:21:06best equipped to give vettal a hard time -- Sebastian Vettel a hard

0:21:06 > 0:21:12time for the Championship? I think Fernando Alonso is probably the

0:21:12 > 0:21:19strongest. I think he is the one who can give Vettel the hardest

0:21:19 > 0:21:24time. Sebastian Vettel's last race retirement was in Korea last season

0:21:24 > 0:21:28and it is rare to go through a whole year without a car break down.

0:21:28 > 0:21:32So while McLaren and Ferrari can only hope for that to happen to

0:21:32 > 0:21:38Vettel, their best chance of catching him is to overtake the Red

0:21:38 > 0:21:43Bull on pure speed. Here at Spa, McLaren believe they have the

0:21:43 > 0:21:53fastest car. If you're quick here, you will be quick in Monday za.

0:21:53 > 0:22:00Then we are down to races that are -- quick in Monza, then we are down

0:22:00 > 0:22:06to high down force races. Hopefully we can can have a good fight.

0:22:06 > 0:22:12last five races, we have won three. So we're there, or thereabouts. We

0:22:12 > 0:22:18have a very good shot. I think the others will be working as hard as

0:22:18 > 0:22:24us. But it will be a close battle for sure. Even though Sebastian

0:22:24 > 0:22:28Vettel has a comfortable lead, talk of a mid season slump bothers him.

0:22:28 > 0:22:34Even in the celebration moment of a pole position at Spa. He has a

0:22:34 > 0:22:40message for doubters. Tofrpblgts confirm pole position. --

0:22:40 > 0:22:47confirm pole position. Oh yes, oh yes! That's the answer! Looking at

0:22:47 > 0:22:53the score board, Lewis, Fernando and Jensen, we saw last race, all

0:22:53 > 0:23:03will be pushing hard to win races in the rest of the season and try

0:23:03 > 0:23:04

0:23:04 > 0:23:07to you know get our spot in the charp ship -- Championship. JAKE

0:23:07 > 0:23:14HUMPHREY: The famous finger there. He was great yesterday in

0:23:14 > 0:23:19qualifying a second ahid of his team mate, for Webb it is the most

0:23:19 > 0:23:24difficult, if the car is working well for Mark, it is the same for

0:23:24 > 0:23:29Seb. Yes and Mark looked like he had the upper hand on Friday. All

0:23:29 > 0:23:34the way through Saturday morning and all the way through qualifying,

0:23:34 > 0:23:40until that last lap. It is the nature of the lap times and the

0:23:40 > 0:23:45track drying up. There is a huge sprid, but Seb pulled it out.

0:23:45 > 0:23:50last thing we want is difficult qualifying session for Fernando, he

0:23:50 > 0:23:55is eighth on the grid, the last thing we want and the current world

0:23:55 > 0:24:01champ yon, is for Seb to not win another race, but still take the

0:24:01 > 0:24:07title. He can pull back and drive at 0%. Well he answered that

0:24:07 > 0:24:10yesterday. -- at 80%. The evidence from yesterday, that was an

0:24:10 > 0:24:15electrifying lap. I was enthralled. Because I didn't think he was going

0:24:15 > 0:24:20to get it. He kept there, last lap, getting the, you know the great

0:24:21 > 0:24:26thing about Spa, you must be on the track when it is at its quickest

0:24:26 > 0:24:29and he was so he was technically brilliant. Today strategy in the

0:24:29 > 0:24:34race could be crucial. There noise rain at the moment. But you only

0:24:34 > 0:24:39have to look up to see the sky is covered in a blanket of cloud and

0:24:39 > 0:24:49we have less than half an hour until the case O' -- to the race.

0:24:49 > 0:24:53And the teams will have to have the tyres ready. On a dry track the

0:24:54 > 0:25:01untreaded slick tyre is the king of grip. As the maximum area of rubber

0:25:01 > 0:25:07bites into the surface. But they're fair weather friends. A road tyre

0:25:07 > 0:25:12only has grooves to clear the water. It is the rub hear the generates

0:25:12 > 0:25:15the grip. But a slick tyre can only push the rain aside and it will

0:25:15 > 0:25:21aquaplane on the surface of the water, instead of the track. In

0:25:21 > 0:25:29these conditions, the rubber cools and suddenly it is like driving on

0:25:29 > 0:25:35ice. There are two alternatives to solve this problem. The blue

0:25:35 > 0:25:39marketed intermediate tyres bridge the gap between wet and dry and the

0:25:40 > 0:25:48shallow grooves clear the rain at speed and surviving until it is

0:25:48 > 0:25:54nearly dry. The tread of the full tyre will tackle heavy rain,

0:25:54 > 0:26:01clearing up to 60 litres a second. But like a fish, they need water to

0:26:01 > 0:26:06survive. Given the brutal energy of a Formula One car. I'm going to do

0:26:06 > 0:26:16something crazy and run a wet tyre on a dry track. Just to show you

0:26:16 > 0:26:16

0:26:16 > 0:27:03Apology for the loss of subtitles for 142 seconds

0:27:03 > 0:27:07there is no way you can carry a set significant and tyre choice can

0:27:07 > 0:27:12make or break a race. So difficult to make a judgment call now. What

0:27:12 > 0:27:16are they putting on? Intermediates. If you're five or six seconds

0:27:16 > 0:27:25faster for four laps, you may as well be out on these tyres and you

0:27:25 > 0:27:33will win a pit stop. It is drying up. They have given up on him. That

0:27:33 > 0:27:37has cost him the race. Be on the right tyres at the right time. JAKE

0:27:37 > 0:27:40HUMPHREY: That is more difficult than it sounds. One man hoping to

0:27:40 > 0:27:46use the weather and the tyres to get through is Michael Schumacher.

0:27:46 > 0:27:50He did it here in 1995, went from 16th to win. Just one of the 91

0:27:50 > 0:27:54wins he enjoyed in 20 years in Formula One. It is a huge

0:27:54 > 0:28:00celebration this weekend for Michael at this race. It was here

0:28:00 > 0:28:03in Spa 20 years ago that Eddie Jordan gave him his great moment.

0:28:03 > 0:28:13Here he was celebrating. We send him our congratulation and he has

0:28:13 > 0:28:23been going back to where it all began, sitting in a go cart! Racing

0:28:23 > 0:28:30has many meanings to me. One is the competition, man-to-man. One is the

0:28:30 > 0:28:39competition against yourself. It is the fighting spirit, always to

0:28:39 > 0:28:44search for the improvement. Always to go faster, always to go better.

0:28:44 > 0:28:48I needed a driver. When he came and tested a car on that Tuesday

0:28:48 > 0:28:53afternoon at Silverstone, the team were staggered and they rang me up

0:28:53 > 0:28:57and said, this is guy is either amazing or there is something they

0:28:57 > 0:29:04have changed on the track to make it shorter. I asked him, had he

0:29:04 > 0:29:08been to to Spa before. He said yes. I thraulgt that was a fib. What I

0:29:08 > 0:29:11went had you raced at Spa and the answer would have been no. Had he

0:29:11 > 0:29:16answered the question the way I felt he should have, he wouldn't

0:29:16 > 0:29:21have got the drive. I didn't know the track. I thought in TV it all

0:29:21 > 0:29:26looked different. Because when you see the cars go through Eau Rouge,

0:29:26 > 0:29:30you don't think it this a steep. Going on a bike you think what was

0:29:30 > 0:29:35that. It was difficult, but it was so much joy and fascination to do

0:29:35 > 0:29:45this, to feel the car, you are just on the edge and balancing on a

0:29:45 > 0:29:51

0:29:51 > 0:29:56ended on the first lap. We were team-mates in 1992 and he turned up

0:29:56 > 0:30:02with a level of fitness we were not used to, he could drive every

0:30:02 > 0:30:08corner flat out and we had to raise again. He won his first race that

0:30:08 > 0:30:13year at Spa. 23, Michael Schumacher the youngest winner for a long

0:30:13 > 0:30:18time! It was unbelievable and I had to thank for team. He had a

0:30:18 > 0:30:24confidence and fitness and speed that as a combination soon became

0:30:24 > 0:30:29unbeatable. He was the first drivers -- driver to take fitness

0:30:29 > 0:30:34levels to such a degree that driving a car in a Formula One race

0:30:34 > 0:30:39was not a consideration. I could have a conversation in a race and

0:30:39 > 0:30:44you would just not believe he was driving in a Grand Prix. My car

0:30:44 > 0:30:50Schumacher, World Champion! And a brilliant race for Michael

0:30:50 > 0:30:59Schumacher! The World Championship, at giving Ferrari and Italy veg

0:30:59 > 0:31:04Reena! Them most outstanding titles to me is that. Five years of blood,

0:31:04 > 0:31:12sweat and tears and he has got that reward! What was special was the

0:31:12 > 0:31:18tough years we had before that. is going through! Out goes Michael

0:31:18 > 0:31:22Schumacher! That did not work, Michael! My go Schumacher in his

0:31:22 > 0:31:26prime I believe we do pretty much anything to win a Grand Prix

0:31:26 > 0:31:30Michael Schumacher. Out goes Michael Schumacher and Damon Hill

0:31:30 > 0:31:35has to retire, Michael Schumacher will be World Champion.

0:31:35 > 0:31:39struggled to draw the line and could not understand criticism.

0:31:39 > 0:31:45When he ran into the side of the Jacques Villeneuve and took Damon

0:31:45 > 0:31:51Hill off in Adelaide for example. would do things differently. After

0:31:51 > 0:31:5824 years in Formula One are, you have a few regrets -- I would do.

0:31:58 > 0:32:03Maybe I should regret to go for an attack on David after he spoilt my

0:32:03 > 0:32:08race in Spa again, actually! Michael Schumacher is out! He is

0:32:08 > 0:32:12going to have it out with David Coulthard! Thankfully, at a couple

0:32:12 > 0:32:16of big guys from McLaren stepped into separators so I did not have

0:32:16 > 0:32:21to unleash my ninja warriors style on Michael! In life you have to

0:32:21 > 0:32:27make mistakes to learn from them and the most important thing is to

0:32:27 > 0:32:33do that. Michael Schumacher starts 16th on the bread and superbly wins

0:32:33 > 0:32:37the Belgian Grand Prix! -- on the grid! Fire no way I can say aye can

0:32:37 > 0:32:44one have a very prestigious number seven Championship here in Spa --

0:32:44 > 0:32:49finally. In my career, he is a reference point, the best driver I

0:32:49 > 0:32:54have ever seen. Michael Schumacher, and still believe will be

0:32:54 > 0:33:02remembered as the greatest driver in history of Formula One -- I

0:33:02 > 0:33:06still believe. Everybody has his own opinion about any person. I

0:33:06 > 0:33:13think I just want to be treated fairly, that is the only thing that

0:33:13 > 0:33:17I look for and to likes Me All loves me I am happy about, who does

0:33:17 > 0:33:23not I understand me -- I understand because she cannot be loved by

0:33:23 > 0:33:29everybody. -- and he likes me all who loves me.

0:33:29 > 0:33:34And what a wonderful career for this man, 20 years, 91 winners, and

0:33:34 > 0:33:38Michael Schumacher in his forties making his way out of the garage to

0:33:38 > 0:33:46prepare for today's Grand Prix. And we have a real Michael Schumacher

0:33:46 > 0:33:53fan here. I always knew it! Is your true hero, -- is he your true hero,

0:33:53 > 0:34:00David? Is there a golden dragon on the back? This is Eddie Jordan's

0:34:00 > 0:34:06style! I am disappointed he did not put one on his chin, it might have

0:34:06 > 0:34:11straightened it up a bit! Michael in his press conference yesterday,

0:34:11 > 0:34:15he stars and 24th place today, he said, I have experience and Spa

0:34:15 > 0:34:19driving on three wheels so he will never forget the fact you created

0:34:19 > 0:34:27that problem here. And Eddie might be can tell -- might be compelled

0:34:27 > 0:34:32to tell us about that when! Sir Martin is on the grid, how is it?

0:34:32 > 0:34:40It is wonderful and welcome to the most important 200 metres of. In

0:34:40 > 0:34:45the world for the next 20 metres. We are back in 13th place. Looking

0:34:45 > 0:34:50here at Jenson Button talking to his engineer having done his long

0:34:50 > 0:34:55reconnaissance lap to get to the grid here. And we will hang around

0:34:55 > 0:34:58and get a word from Jenson, disappointed with that

0:34:58 > 0:35:03misunderstanding in qualifying where he had -- where he thought he

0:35:03 > 0:35:08had another lap but he did not have the time or the fuel and had to

0:35:08 > 0:35:13abandon the lap, but he had to stay hard on the throttle pedal. And the

0:35:13 > 0:35:18penalty he has got. If he looks at the people on the grid, incredible,

0:35:18 > 0:35:23hundreds here to work and hundreds more to profile and to soak up the

0:35:23 > 0:35:29energy and try to understand what it feels like down here. And it is

0:35:29 > 0:35:35pretty electric as it always is at Spa. Jenson, behind you is the

0:35:35 > 0:35:40podium, can you see it, is it enticing? Very. We had a very

0:35:40 > 0:35:44frustrating day yesterday, the place has been great all weekend.

0:35:44 > 0:35:49When you are in 13th place and you have a good car and good pace, it

0:35:49 > 0:35:54is not so bad, we can still have a good race. At least you can have

0:35:54 > 0:35:58brand new tyres. And the story of today is blistered tyres, what is

0:35:58 > 0:36:04your understanding? The poor were getting blisters in qualifying so

0:36:04 > 0:36:08it is a problem -- people were getting. It is a problem with the

0:36:08 > 0:36:13dirty track, at the tyres get too hot and I think it is from sliding

0:36:13 > 0:36:20more than anything else. It should be better today but it is unknown

0:36:20 > 0:36:26from here. Can you not maybe go more Conservative? They have done

0:36:26 > 0:36:30four laps on their tyres, the top 10. That is great and we need that.

0:36:30 > 0:36:35But I do not know if they have been allowed to change them.

0:36:35 > 0:36:38understanding is they have not and Ferrari and others were upset, they

0:36:38 > 0:36:43said, you have too much clean-up on the front wheel and that is your

0:36:43 > 0:36:50problem. It is their problem. It is not the best position but we have a

0:36:50 > 0:36:57good car and will have a lot of fun today. We look forward to it. And

0:36:57 > 0:37:04at the front, Kamui Kobayashi is getting out. They are like jockeys,

0:37:04 > 0:37:11these drivers, they are so small. Apart from people like Mark Webber.

0:37:11 > 0:37:15Two Toro Rossos in the top 11. They can run any tyre they want to start

0:37:15 > 0:37:22the Grand Prix but the top 10 are committed to running for tyres they

0:37:22 > 0:37:27set their fastest lap on. We have Vitaly Petrov here. A quick word?

0:37:27 > 0:37:33How was the track on a reconnaissance lap? It looks very

0:37:33 > 0:37:37good at everything. We are confident but we expect the rain

0:37:37 > 0:37:43about one away after the start of the race so it will be interesting.

0:37:43 > 0:37:50Others think it will not rain. is coming next March that sounds

0:37:50 > 0:37:55very confident, see you later. rain is coming, that is the first

0:37:55 > 0:37:59time I have heard that and I have been asking around. Sergio Perez

0:37:59 > 0:38:03has done extremely well. And we are getting in the way of tyres that

0:38:03 > 0:38:09they used to come to the grid in case they get a puncture so they

0:38:09 > 0:38:19are not risking a set for the race. And let's see if Sergio Perez is

0:38:19 > 0:38:24around. I do not think he is. Rubens Barrichello, it is a long

0:38:24 > 0:38:30walk from their! If you do not come to interview me, it is a long walk

0:38:30 > 0:38:34for you! I will try to do better next time. What is happening? A

0:38:34 > 0:38:40difficult weekend, any light at the end of the tunnel? Yesterday was a

0:38:40 > 0:38:45lovely time to perform better. But there is a limitation for the part

0:38:45 > 0:38:52on the dry and we have to work for -- wait for better weather.

0:38:52 > 0:38:55stay out of trouble in turn one. Absolutely, you know that! Fernando

0:38:56 > 0:39:02Alonso in eighth place and he is not talking to media this weekend,

0:39:02 > 0:39:09I was strictly informed. We can look at his beautiful Ferrari. And

0:39:09 > 0:39:12he has a busy time ahead of him. But it does seem, as he heads off

0:39:12 > 0:39:20to the grid, a quick word, Fernando? I already knew the answer

0:39:20 > 0:39:25to that! And so they are talking... Because it is difficult to warm up

0:39:25 > 0:39:30the tyres in qualifying, it gives them an advantage if the tyres are

0:39:30 > 0:39:35under pressure so they are saying, a you are not changing your tyres

0:39:36 > 0:39:42because we have a car that can handle the situation. And Eric

0:39:43 > 0:39:48Clapton, let's have a word with him. How are you? You are looking well!

0:39:48 > 0:39:53Good to see you, we have not seen you for ages. I am working too much

0:39:53 > 0:40:00at the moment. Have you watched a bit this year, what do you reckon?

0:40:00 > 0:40:03I have watched every race. You like that rain, I do not like it. I

0:40:03 > 0:40:09cannot stand for all that indecision, the tyres and all this,

0:40:09 > 0:40:17it is a nightmare. You are a proper petrolhead, what do you think of

0:40:17 > 0:40:22this gear wing and this DRS? It is all in here, isn't it? All the

0:40:22 > 0:40:29boxes on the floor with the Qatar, it doesn't matter, it is in here,

0:40:29 > 0:40:36isn't it? You know that. Are you are absolutely right, I have only a

0:40:36 > 0:40:44minute left, I have to move on. He is a legend, Eric Clapton! We spoke

0:40:44 > 0:40:50to Jaime Alguersuari before so we will keep going past. Nico Rosberg,

0:40:50 > 0:40:57in the Mercedes in the top 10. Michael at the back of the field. I

0:40:57 > 0:41:00want to get a feel for, let me show you if I can, if there is a we all

0:41:00 > 0:41:05like this Ferrari of Felipe Massa who has a qualified his team-mate

0:41:05 > 0:41:10for the second time this year. When you lean the top of the wheel

0:41:10 > 0:41:14towards the chassis, that generate extra grip and they have 4.5

0:41:14 > 0:41:19degrees allowed. There is talk some things have gone beyond what

0:41:19 > 0:41:24Pirelli is recommending and that... As the car goes through the corner,

0:41:24 > 0:41:29it tracks the tyre and overheat the inside shoulder and gets blisters

0:41:29 > 0:41:35and Pirelli are very nervous about that. And it is on that almost all

0:41:35 > 0:41:39the front-running cars. So that is a concern. They say, if you want to

0:41:39 > 0:41:46change it can make you have to start from the pit lane, we will

0:41:46 > 0:41:51not let you change the tyres or change and it is all about leaning

0:41:51 > 0:41:56back front tyre. It warms up your tyres better in qualifying

0:41:56 > 0:42:02especially on a damp track. We have a three-way engineer discussion and

0:42:02 > 0:42:09it is quite unusual. 14 minutes before the race and we have heavy,

0:42:09 > 0:42:15heavy conversations going on stale. And I am hearing that Christiane

0:42:15 > 0:42:24horny -- Christian Horner, and want to understand a final decision on

0:42:24 > 0:42:28these tyres. -- I want to. Sorry, can I just interrupt? Can we have a

0:42:28 > 0:42:33definitive answer on whether you have been a land to change these

0:42:33 > 0:42:37tyres? We have not been allowed and so are starting with the tyres we

0:42:37 > 0:42:45qualified on yesterday's. With so little dry mileage, it gives the

0:42:45 > 0:42:49tyres a hard time. Most of the guys near the front, at we are going to

0:42:49 > 0:42:55have to keep a close eye on it. a scale of 10, how will read are

0:42:55 > 0:42:59you described tales -- these front tyres might let you down? We have

0:42:59 > 0:43:04spoken to the guys at Aurelio and we are happy or they would not be

0:43:04 > 0:43:08on the car. It is the same for everybody but one session was dry

0:43:08 > 0:43:14yesterday so that was the only chance we got to look at the tyres.

0:43:14 > 0:43:18Back to you. Interesting decision-making process

0:43:18 > 0:43:24by Eric Clapton, he does not like wet races so he chooses to come to

0:43:24 > 0:43:28Spa or! The big discussion was the blistering on these front tyres and

0:43:28 > 0:43:33we saw an in-depth conversation with Mark Webber. This is yesterday

0:43:33 > 0:43:37after qualifying and the information we have got is that the

0:43:37 > 0:43:42camber of the car is be on the specified limits Upper Arley and

0:43:42 > 0:43:46both front tyres are blistered for Sebastian Vettel. Christian Horner

0:43:46 > 0:43:50said, we are not too concerned about this. But if we look at a

0:43:50 > 0:43:55conversation Sebastian Vettel was having before the race, he is

0:43:55 > 0:44:01talking to a Bolelli representative and looks not particularly happy. -

0:44:01 > 0:44:06- a pair rarely representative. And Mario not smiling, so how affected

0:44:06 > 0:44:10could read all be by this situation? That is as animated as

0:44:10 > 0:44:15Sebastian Vettel will get, that body language is severe and he is

0:44:15 > 0:44:20telling him what he thinks. This gives you another side of what

0:44:20 > 0:44:24racing drivers are like. There is an aggression and arrogance inside.

0:44:24 > 0:44:29But he qualified and load -- on those tyres and the rule is he must

0:44:29 > 0:44:33run on them. He blistered them, nobody else, and he got the benefit.

0:44:33 > 0:44:43How can you go back and get another set of tyres because something

0:44:43 > 0:44:47

0:44:47 > 0:44:55before they were worried about the tyres. If they were blistered, it

0:44:55 > 0:45:00didn't affect Sebastian Vettel. Here is the pole lap. Sebastian

0:45:00 > 0:45:07Vettel is on pole position. And this is one very brave lap. Let's

0:45:07 > 0:45:11enjoy it together. 170mph down the pit straight, towards the La Source

0:45:12 > 0:45:15hairpin. You can see there is still water on the track. They have been

0:45:15 > 0:45:24going through qualifying on a drying track. This is the first

0:45:24 > 0:45:31time on slick tyres, down to Eau Rouge at 180mph. Barely a hint of

0:45:31 > 0:45:41lift on the throttle. Over 200 MP, spray coming off the left front

0:45:41 > 0:45:43

0:45:43 > 0:45:48tyre as he heads to the braking zone for Les Combs. That turn taken

0:45:48 > 0:45:53at 100mph. Very confident on the curves. Rivage corner, 80mph. The

0:45:53 > 0:46:01front reluctant to go through. Picks up the throttle nicely. The

0:46:01 > 0:46:08corn we are no name, a tricky off camber down towards Pouhon. You

0:46:08 > 0:46:15turn at 18mph, like threading the eye of a needle trying to keep the

0:46:15 > 0:46:23car on the track. Then the chicane at 120mph. Total confidence to nail

0:46:23 > 0:46:27the throttle pedal, flick left for the next turn. Now let the cargo,

0:46:27 > 0:46:36full throttle through second part as he keeps the car on the dry part

0:46:36 > 0:46:44of the track. There is a long left hander, he has the DRS wide-open

0:46:44 > 0:46:51and still confident enough to go on the curve. That ends a tricky and

0:46:51 > 0:46:55difficult final chicane. Just 65mph. A short run to the checkered flag.

0:46:55 > 0:47:02The 4th pole position for Sebastian Vettel and that was -- 24th pole

0:47:02 > 0:47:07position for Sebastian Vettel and that was very well earned. JAKE

0:47:07 > 0:47:11HUMPHREY: What a guy, what a lap. It would be good to discuss how he

0:47:11 > 0:47:16is always the last man over the line. His aim would be to run and

0:47:16 > 0:47:22hide, get out of the one second zone where drivers can open their

0:47:22 > 0:47:27DRS and overtake. The zone starts at Raidillon and people think we

0:47:27 > 0:47:33could have a turkey -- Turkey situation where it is too easy to

0:47:33 > 0:47:39overtake. He has an advantage. It is a short run-up to the first

0:47:39 > 0:47:44corner. The pole position is at its best. Don't see anyone touching him.

0:47:45 > 0:47:49Thiss what is happening -- this is what is happening on the grid. Here

0:47:50 > 0:47:57is Paul di Resta. I know you didn't qualify where you wanted to, what

0:47:57 > 0:48:03can you do from that position? Hopefully here our can is strong.

0:48:03 > 0:48:07It has been strong in the wet or dry. It was an unfortunate day for

0:48:07 > 0:48:15both cars. I believe we can move forward. The unknown is how long

0:48:15 > 0:48:20tyre will last, given we have only got five laps worth of data.

0:48:20 > 0:48:25will this pan out, last time Lewis Hamilton was signature second and

0:48:26 > 0:48:31won. Can he do it again? Of course he can. The weather could have a

0:48:31 > 0:48:35huge effect. But I have a suspicion this will be a dry race and I would

0:48:35 > 0:48:40watch out for Fernando Alonso. I didn't think say he would win, but

0:48:40 > 0:48:44watch out for him. Keep your eyes on the start. And of course we're

0:48:44 > 0:48:50also live on BBC1 HDF you miss anything, you can find it on the

0:48:50 > 0:48:56iPlayer. But I suggest you go no wr. With Martin Brundle is David

0:48:57 > 0:49:03Coulthard. They're gearing up for a race that always deliver it is time

0:49:03 > 0:49:09for the 2011 Spa Grand Prix live from this place, Spa-Francorchamps.

0:49:09 > 0:49:19It is the most impressive track that we have around. Long, quick,

0:49:19 > 0:49:19

0:49:19 > 0:49:25wet... It is massively fast. like being on the edge. You make a

0:49:25 > 0:49:28mistake, you're going to hurt yourself. They go through Eau Rouge

0:49:28 > 0:49:38flat out. There is always that challenge whether you're good

0:49:38 > 0:49:45

0:49:45 > 0:49:53enough. I can't wait to get on it. MARTIN BRUNDLE: It is round 12 of

0:49:53 > 0:49:5819 in this year's Formula One. The 44th Grand Prix here at the Spa

0:49:58 > 0:50:04circuit in Belgium and it is a 44 lap race. Rain has played a key

0:50:04 > 0:50:09part and qualifying was a thriller. And gave us a very interesting grid

0:50:09 > 0:50:17to say the least. Driving on the track was challenging at the end,

0:50:17 > 0:50:21but we saw some sensational efforts and bravery too as they committed

0:50:21 > 0:50:26to 180mph corners when the track was still damp. The three sectors

0:50:26 > 0:50:29that we will watch through the Grand Prix. 23 degree out there.

0:50:29 > 0:50:33Not much humidity at the moment. Of course, we heard from Vitaly Petrov

0:50:33 > 0:50:38on the grid, he is convinced there will be rain within the hour. Cloud

0:50:38 > 0:50:43is bubbling up as we often see hee. But at the moment although it did

0:50:43 > 0:50:47spit a bit of rain while I was on the grid. So there is moisture on

0:50:47 > 0:50:51the air, but nothing to challenge the drivers at this time. So a

0:50:51 > 0:50:55fascinating grid line up. What can Michael Schumacher do from 24th and

0:50:55 > 0:50:59last on the grid after losing that wheel in qualifying? Jenson Button

0:50:59 > 0:51:05and Paul di Resta also out of position after their communication

0:51:05 > 0:51:10problems. But David, tyres had dominated the paddock conversation

0:51:10 > 0:51:17this morning haven't they? And how would you feel there there was --

0:51:17 > 0:51:23if there was talk of blistering front tyres? I would be nervous. I

0:51:23 > 0:51:27am used to talking about blistering rear tyres. That is what we saw

0:51:27 > 0:51:33during the tyre war between Michelin and bridge ston. You could

0:51:33 > 0:51:38run around with blisters on your tyre. Provide it didn't delaminate,

0:51:38 > 0:51:44it was safe. But front tyre blistering, I don't recall

0:51:44 > 0:51:52experiencing that. I don't if you did. Only on qualifying tyres.

0:51:52 > 0:52:00Eau Rouge, Blanchmont, Pouhon, this is not the track to commit your

0:52:00 > 0:52:06front axle to the turn. I would be nervous. It is as if the tyres have

0:52:06 > 0:52:12been dragged across the track and overheating. And the rears, yes,

0:52:12 > 0:52:17you putting 750 horsepower through the rear tyres, blistering is not

0:52:17 > 0:52:21unusual. If you're committing to Eau Rouge at 185mph and chunking

0:52:22 > 0:52:26bits of rubber off, it will be nerve racking. That is a point.

0:52:26 > 0:52:31They have not experienced this. No one has seen the front blistering

0:52:31 > 0:52:35so far. So we don't know what to expect. The fact that all the cars

0:52:35 > 0:52:40have taken their grid slots, then this is going to be a journey into

0:52:40 > 0:52:44the unknown. What is Lewis Hamilton doing with his left hand? Taking

0:52:44 > 0:52:49some air? Cooling it and giving him a nice cool down. I wouldn't

0:52:49 > 0:52:55thought he would need too much o' that with an air temperature of 16

0:52:55 > 0:53:05degrees. Maybe he is a bit... always muggy in four layers of

0:53:05 > 0:53:22

0:53:22 > 0:53:30this race. Adrian Sutil crashed the car yesterday. Paul di Resta came

0:53:30 > 0:53:38in listen they told him to, but shouldn't have. Naughty boy, Pastor

0:53:38 > 0:53:42Maldonado in 21st with that penalty. Michael Schumacher... Right at the

0:53:42 > 0:53:46back of the field. Some were saying, do you think he will start from the

0:53:46 > 0:53:51pit lane. I can't see any point. He doesn't need, it won't help him

0:53:51 > 0:53:56with fresh tyres. He will be guaranteed to be last in the first

0:53:56 > 0:54:04corner. So will it just help him stay out of trouble? RADIO:

0:54:04 > 0:54:10Obviously a bit of braking at turn one. Give your brakes a good wallop

0:54:10 > 0:54:14on the first lap. A nice reminder. They will have a light in the

0:54:14 > 0:54:20cockpit to tell him he is above a threshold where his brakes are at

0:54:20 > 0:54:25the correct temperature. There is nothing wrong with Bruno Senna's

0:54:25 > 0:54:29car, it is the bite point find that he was doing. But that is a good

0:54:29 > 0:54:37point he engineer made, it is a light brake into turn one and then

0:54:37 > 0:54:43you will be at 90 % throttle into Les Combs. Then you will need your

0:54:43 > 0:54:47brakes. But it is a light braking into Les Combs, I wouldn't be as

0:54:47 > 0:54:53concerned as if he was making his debut at Monza, where you go

0:54:53 > 0:54:58through the first chicane and go around into the second chicane and

0:54:58 > 0:55:02find your brake temperature is below 500 degrees. Talking to

0:55:02 > 0:55:09Jenson Button, I said I thought he may try something different. He is

0:55:09 > 0:55:13on hard tyres. As is Michael Schumacher. RADIO: Everyone on hot

0:55:13 > 0:55:17tyres. Michael is on option. That is not the information we have. It

0:55:18 > 0:55:23is the harder tyres, it is the medium, pound marked in white.

0:55:23 > 0:55:28Michael trying to find out what the opposition has. I'm getting told

0:55:28 > 0:55:33that Jenson Button is also on the same tyres. So we will have to wait

0:55:33 > 0:55:37and see if that is correct. But everyone else on the softer tyre.

0:55:37 > 0:55:42Of course Sebastian Vettel is, because he has got to start the

0:55:42 > 0:55:47race on the tyres he set his fastest lap on. Is that a sign,

0:55:47 > 0:55:52that is what the blistering looks like. You can cannot tell if that

0:55:52 > 0:55:57is pick up on the front left. But once they're running at speed, look

0:55:57 > 0:56:02at that front left, you see it is unloading. It is probably pick up.

0:56:03 > 0:56:07The confirmation I'm getting is that not what they told Michael

0:56:07 > 0:56:12Schumacher that, Jenson Button is definitely on the white marked

0:56:12 > 0:56:15medium compound tyre, the slower of the two tyres. So he should be able

0:56:15 > 0:56:23to g further. One thing on the blistering, the fact they have had

0:56:23 > 0:56:28the chance to put the tyres through a heat cycle. Jenson Button has

0:56:28 > 0:56:32decided not to take any risks on that option tyre from new. He could

0:56:32 > 0:56:39have run a scrub set. But that will affect his overall lap time, but

0:56:39 > 0:56:45may allow him to go further in his race strategy -- strategy. It may

0:56:45 > 0:56:50cost him a metre or two off the grid. Butless bargaining that the

0:56:50 > 0:56:53McLaren start system will cover any deficiency in the tyres. A long

0:56:53 > 0:56:58formation lap. Anything you do differently to prepare for the

0:56:58 > 0:57:03start? It gives you more time the get heat into the brakes. You must

0:57:03 > 0:57:10get as much heat in the carbon heat that. Radiates out to the wheel and

0:57:10 > 0:57:16warms up the tyres and maintains your tyre precious. What are you

0:57:16 > 0:57:22expecting as this race unfolds? stops is the faster option, but I

0:57:22 > 0:57:29think that we will see most of top ten go for three stops. They have

0:57:29 > 0:57:34done four or five tracks in the tyres. So with Pirelli saying you

0:57:34 > 0:57:40can only get ten laps to 15 laps out of options, they are already

0:57:40 > 0:57:44well into that. Plenty of burn oupts going on. They have put on a

0:57:45 > 0:57:52different engine mapping to spin the rear wheels up and get maximum

0:57:52 > 0:58:01attempt into the rear tyres and ready to launch their 640 kilogram

0:58:01 > 0:58:06car, plus fuel, towards and we have a lot of smoke. It is the Mercedes.

0:58:06 > 0:58:13The drivers have made their way through. It is narrow and short,

0:58:13 > 0:58:18five lights and then the La Source hairpin awaits. It is under way.

0:58:18 > 0:58:24Sebastian Vettel gets away, Rosberg flying, Mark Webber didn't get

0:58:24 > 0:58:29going and Massa is in second place. Sebastian Vettel goes wide, contact

0:58:30 > 0:58:34behind and that is a Toro Rosso there, the two Lotuss got together.

0:58:34 > 0:58:38The second Ferrari of lance -- Fernando Alonso coming back.

0:58:38 > 0:58:42Ferrari into fourth. Sebastian Vettel leads from the very fast

0:58:42 > 0:58:49starting Nico Rosberg and then it is Lewis Hamilton. A lot of contact

0:58:49 > 0:58:56at the first corner. We will need to see the replay. We have that is

0:58:56 > 0:59:00Rosberg outside Vettel into turn one. Nico Rosberg takes the lead in

0:59:00 > 0:59:05the Grand Prix with tremendous straight line speed. What bravery

0:59:05 > 0:59:12from him on the first few corners. Look at the lead he is pulling out.

0:59:12 > 0:59:18Jenson Button is up to 12th. Mark Webber is back between the saubers

0:59:18 > 0:59:28and in eighth. Mark Webber as he did last year, from pole position,

0:59:28 > 0:59:35

0:59:35 > 0:59:43after the first corner and ABBA give you a run down. Rosberg,

0:59:43 > 0:59:49Sebastian Vettel, Felipe Massa, Alonso. Petrov is in 10th place.

0:59:49 > 0:59:55Alguersuari on the first corner. And it's very broken front wing.

0:59:55 > 1:00:00Michael Schumacher in 15th place already from the 24th slot on the

1:00:00 > 1:00:08grid, so he stays clear of the trouble. Paul di Resta up into 13th

1:00:08 > 1:00:12place so a very good start. Bruno Senna in 14th. Hamilton is

1:00:12 > 1:00:22defending from Fernando Alonso. He was already ahead of him. So,

1:00:22 > 1:00:27

1:00:28 > 1:00:37Fernando Alonso on the attack. Rosberg leads by 0.4 seconds.

1:00:37 > 1:00:42Button still tough. Schumacher now 14th, he passed Barrichello.

1:00:42 > 1:00:50Maldonado in 17th. Look at the wrong he has got. Fernando Alonso

1:00:50 > 1:00:56is so much faster down Raidillon. Hamilton looks back. Fernando

1:00:56 > 1:01:01Alonso defends well, no DRS at this point in the Grand Prix. And the

1:01:01 > 1:01:09speed he had over the top of Eau Rouge, it looked like the car was

1:01:09 > 1:01:13going at about 15 mph faster. He has had contacted the first corner

1:01:13 > 1:01:21and his new nose has been fitted so after a great qualifying, not a

1:01:21 > 1:01:31great start to this grand prix. much contact. Lotus, Kovaleinen has

1:01:31 > 1:01:32

1:01:32 > 1:01:37pitted. Timo Glock, Bruno Senna and Bruno Senna... Look how well Felipe

1:01:37 > 1:01:45Massa is hanging on as well. That bodes very well. Fernando Alonso

1:01:45 > 1:01:55has passed Lewis Hamilton soul into 4th place. Hamilton in 5th place.

1:01:55 > 1:01:56

1:01:56 > 1:02:01And then Sebastien Buemi. The yellow flags are out. Alguersuari.

1:02:01 > 1:02:05This might not be a bad thing for Sebastian Vettel, he is being held

1:02:05 > 1:02:09to do so were Ps and any fear of overheating as front tyres is

1:02:09 > 1:02:15keeping him. It isn't running as fast as it would normally go so he

1:02:15 > 1:02:21is getting the position and I would expect the DRS will be available

1:02:21 > 1:02:25within the one-second window and he should be able to pass Rosberg.

1:02:25 > 1:02:35we are sliding around in turbulent air, he will understeer or even

1:02:35 > 1:02:36

1:02:36 > 1:02:43more. Fernando Alonso the fastest man on the track. The cars running

1:02:43 > 1:02:53on the ground with all of that fuel. Rosberg go in Defence 1. -- going

1:02:53 > 1:02:54

1:02:54 > 1:03:00defensive. And he just takes that lead comfortably. The DRS has been

1:03:00 > 1:03:06enabled. Look at the top four. Covered by under two seconds and

1:03:06 > 1:03:12Hamilton struggling to hang on and Mark Webber, just did not get away.

1:03:12 > 1:03:18Let's look at the action in the first corner. Both found a car's...

1:03:18 > 1:03:23Bruno Senna has gone end and they tapped Alonso. Bruno Senna went

1:03:23 > 1:03:28into deep on the brakes and hit the Toro Rosso of Alguersuari and he

1:03:28 > 1:03:37almost collected Fernando Alonso and that looks like Bruno triggered

1:03:37 > 1:03:42that one. He went down to stall. That is there to stop the engine

1:03:42 > 1:03:50dying but he would have to put in touch again and by that time he was

1:03:51 > 1:03:56swamped as we get this Great Yew of Bruno Senna showing he is rusty. --

1:03:56 > 1:04:00great view. And this view is from Alguersuari. Minding his own

1:04:00 > 1:04:07business in the middle and he is about to get a proper thump. He

1:04:07 > 1:04:11actually broke his suspension. He engaged Fernando Alonso. Jensen

1:04:11 > 1:04:15Button's front wing is damaged, so much so that they are bringing him

1:04:15 > 1:04:25in for a pit-stop to put the new one on. That is affordable for his

1:04:25 > 1:04:28

1:04:28 > 1:04:35wrist. The -- horrible for his race. Sebastian Vettel is in. We also

1:04:36 > 1:04:39have Button in for that new road -- nose cone. Nearly two seconds

1:04:39 > 1:04:45quicker than Rosberg and the previous lap. Fernando Alonso

1:04:46 > 1:04:50having a look at Felipe Massa. Felipe Massa had DRS because he was

1:04:51 > 1:04:59one second behind so he is getting the benefit of 20 kilometres per

1:04:59 > 1:05:09hour on top of his top speed. It is like a stalemate. Fernando Alonso

1:05:09 > 1:05:17

1:05:17 > 1:05:23must have walked speed! -- walk. We are on lap four only. So much chaos.

1:05:23 > 1:05:32Absolutely extraordinary. I want a replay of the radio message from

1:05:32 > 1:05:37last year. Fernando is faster than you. It does look at this stage

1:05:37 > 1:05:41that he will have the cushion he might need to keep the lead.

1:05:41 > 1:05:46Bull are in trouble with their tyres, big trouble for Mark Webber

1:05:46 > 1:05:50to comment and put on medium tyres. Jensen is able to run on the soft

1:05:50 > 1:05:56tyre for this stint. Just having a discussion as to whether they need

1:05:56 > 1:06:01to bring Sebastian Vettel end. His pace is good but surely it's only a

1:06:01 > 1:06:05matter of time before he has to comment. Nico Rosberg defending for

1:06:05 > 1:06:15all of his worth against Felipe Massa. The Ferrari are looking

1:06:15 > 1:06:30

1:06:30 > 1:06:34mighty. I can see the marks on the front tyres at the moment. You can

1:06:34 > 1:06:41only see the front tyres on the slow corners. Fernando Alonso in

1:06:41 > 1:06:49the double slipstream. Can Felipe Massa a brave this out around the

1:06:49 > 1:06:55outside? He will get a better run- up here. He was Hamilton catching

1:06:56 > 1:07:05him and it is a better run into the braking zone. He has gone into deep.

1:07:06 > 1:07:08

1:07:08 > 1:07:16Can Felipe Massa a comeback? He almost touched the grass to make it

1:07:16 > 1:07:20work. Some smoke coming off the back of Felipe Massa. Challenging

1:07:20 > 1:07:27for second place. He goes down to 5th place in a match of three

1:07:27 > 1:07:31corners. It is certainly open race day at Ferrari. Fernando Alonso

1:07:31 > 1:07:37pushing his team-mate as wide as he possibly dead. That almost ended in

1:07:37 > 1:07:44tears for them. That was a golden opportunity for Lewis Hamilton. It

1:07:44 > 1:07:48did look like he was struggling to keep pace. Here is a replay.

1:07:48 > 1:07:52Fernando Alonso comes hard off the top in to turn No. 6 and down the

1:07:52 > 1:07:56inside. That used to be gravel. Last year he would have been

1:07:56 > 1:08:04bouncing through the gravel. And the situation were Lewis Hamilton

1:08:04 > 1:08:09would have deployed his Kers system. Sebastian Vettel pitch from the

1:08:09 > 1:08:13lead to put on another set of the soft tyres. Interesting. That is

1:08:13 > 1:08:18different to what they did with Mark Webber. We did not really see

1:08:18 > 1:08:27his pit stop. We are pretty sure that they put the median compound

1:08:27 > 1:08:32on a Mark Webber and do they put the soft one on to Sebastian Vettel.

1:08:32 > 1:08:41So, Nico Rosberg will be in the lead. He was looking quick at this

1:08:42 > 1:08:47stage. We have a broken rear wing on the Toro Rosso. They have to

1:08:47 > 1:08:57slow right down and pit. Kobayashi as well. I wondered if

1:08:57 > 1:09:01they had contact? They have to call him in, that is so dangerous. Perez

1:09:01 > 1:09:11has already pitted with no front wing. So much action going on all

1:09:11 > 1:09:14

1:09:14 > 1:09:18screen. Sebastian Vettel has petted. It does seem that these tyres we

1:09:18 > 1:09:23have been talking about have really hurt Red Bull at the moment more

1:09:23 > 1:09:29than anybody else, which is why I am sure that McLaren and especially

1:09:29 > 1:09:36fiery are saying, they cannot change their suspension set-up and

1:09:36 > 1:09:39tyres. It is questionable whether any fresh set are less likely to

1:09:39 > 1:09:42blister. Red Bull do not need to win this grand prix to win the

1:09:43 > 1:09:51championship. They should bear on the side of caution and listen to

1:09:51 > 1:09:56the drivers. The tyres for opening up. Fernando Alonso having a look.

1:09:56 > 1:10:00Rosberg is having a great front -- top speed. Even at the Kers system

1:10:00 > 1:10:09and the di Resta double, they're not making much headway into

1:10:09 > 1:10:14Rosberg. We have tried through his for Bruno Senna. And Timo Glock.

1:10:14 > 1:10:19For good measure. Two drivers already having pitted for damage

1:10:19 > 1:10:24and now have to drive through the pits at a cost of around 16 seconds.

1:10:24 > 1:10:28Look at that, Fernando Alonso very fast at the top of Raidillon. He

1:10:28 > 1:10:32has to go the long way round. Once you have that momentum, there is

1:10:32 > 1:10:42nothing the other driver can do. But in driving off the road and

1:10:42 > 1:10:46that isn't an option at 200 plus mph. Only on a seven. Action

1:10:46 > 1:10:51everywhere, I am enjoying this. Tremendous. Remember, Fernando

1:10:51 > 1:10:59Alonso started in eighth place on the grid and he has a very

1:10:59 > 1:11:09comfortable lead. The Red Bull cars have already put it. There is a

1:11:09 > 1:11:13

1:11:13 > 1:11:20long way to go. -- petted. Jensen Button after that pit-stop... That

1:11:20 > 1:11:27is normally were the robber erupts. It is that the Left Front. It looks

1:11:27 > 1:11:31like the right as well. He will be feeling that. Rosberg driving a

1:11:31 > 1:11:36fantastic defensive race. I don't think the expected to lead this

1:11:36 > 1:11:42grand prix, looking at their pace on Saturday and Sunday. They seem

1:11:42 > 1:11:48to have lost some of that. The DRS isn't available here. Hamilton

1:11:48 > 1:11:56having to get out of the throttle. His team-mate, Nico Rosberg, the

1:11:56 > 1:12:06head of 10. I thought he was almost heading for the Pits, he took such

1:12:06 > 1:12:12

1:12:12 > 1:12:18a tight turn. I have seen worse blisters and that. They are new to

1:12:18 > 1:12:22Formula One, you do not know what they will do. How does he come off

1:12:22 > 1:12:27the top of the hill, Nico Rosberg? The DRS is available now. Surely,

1:12:27 > 1:12:32Lewis Hamilton, without really wide open, can go down the outside and

1:12:32 > 1:12:37it is a clean pass. Into second place. OK, his front tyres will not

1:12:37 > 1:12:44feel quite so bad now. That will be clean air, making his car feel a

1:12:44 > 1:12:52lot better. On the 9.6 seconds off the lead. Sebastien Vettel, in 6th

1:12:52 > 1:13:01place, having made that pit stop. As we watch Sebastian Vettel

1:13:01 > 1:13:08passing Kobayashi. He is up into 5th place and in that case, a so

1:13:08 > 1:13:11what you said is interesting. Red Bull are not under pressure to

1:13:11 > 1:13:16necessarily win everything, they might be taking a more cautious

1:13:16 > 1:13:21approach. But having made that it's a, Sebastian Vettel is looking

1:13:21 > 1:13:30handy, P6, less than 10 seconds away from the battle for the lead.

1:13:30 > 1:13:34We can expect them to come in in the next two - five laps. It is

1:13:34 > 1:13:44only 44 laps, this grand prix. To get to the end of the usable life

1:13:44 > 1:13:50

1:13:50 > 1:13:56of those times. -- tyres. They will watch them through here. It is. 60

1:13:56 > 1:14:03mph, this chicane, Fernando Alonso Pits from what was the lead,

1:14:03 > 1:14:07Hamilton leaves the Grand Prix. The same concept as they are using with

1:14:07 > 1:14:13Sebastian Vettel. They have a good supply of brand new tyres available

1:14:13 > 1:14:21as the only used one set and they will qualify with three of each.

1:14:21 > 1:14:26The only use one of each. He comes out in front of Mark Webber. Mark

1:14:26 > 1:14:36Webber fancies a run, they are so close! Fernando Alonso had to lead

1:14:36 > 1:14:42

1:14:42 > 1:14:48and just as well he did. You can all mighty coming together. Mark

1:14:48 > 1:14:52Webber is 35 and he was not lifting around the outside. Look at this,

1:14:52 > 1:14:57he flicks down the inside and he is not going to give. They nearly

1:14:57 > 1:15:03touch. That is incredible. Fernando Alonso saved them from an all

1:15:03 > 1:15:10mighty accident there. But you have to admire Mark Webber, the throttle

1:15:10 > 1:15:14pedal wasn't coming up, as we see the damaged front wing of Kobayashi.

1:15:14 > 1:15:22Sebastien Buemi, Jaime Alguersuari stopped and Sebastien Buemi has

1:15:22 > 1:15:27retired. We saw him with his wing hanging off. So both Toro Rossos

1:15:28 > 1:15:32out. Senna is back out, having made his drive through. Fernando Alonso

1:15:32 > 1:15:40is all over the back of Mark Webber, because Mark Webber stopped lap

1:15:40 > 1:15:45three. So he has six laps more on the tyres. Fernando Alonso has to

1:15:45 > 1:15:53make a right in the next lap or two. Lifting out in Blanchmont. A car in

1:15:53 > 1:15:57front of him. That is Kobayashi I think. No, it's Force India.

1:15:57 > 1:16:04almost contact there, Mark Webber makes his way through. It is Adrian

1:16:04 > 1:16:09Sutil. And this is for a position. That is why Adrian Sutil won't

1:16:09 > 1:16:12yield. Adrian Sutil still fighting for all his worth. He is entitled

1:16:13 > 1:16:16to. He is between the Red Bull and the Ferrari. I don't think he will

1:16:16 > 1:16:21be giving Fernando Alonso too much. Fernando Alonso though has the

1:16:21 > 1:16:29speed and Sutil will have to lift off the throttle. What brilliant

1:16:29 > 1:16:39driving, as they head through that at 185mph. Look at the speed hes --

1:16:39 > 1:16:40

1:16:40 > 1:16:45he has got off Raidillon. Lon Lens takes that position back. --

1:16:45 > 1:16:50Fernando Alonso take there is a position back. Massa has also

1:16:50 > 1:16:55pitted. Mark Webber has gone out on the medium compound tyre. He has a

1:16:55 > 1:17:00different strategy. Remember, if you're now Formula One, hello,

1:17:00 > 1:17:10welcome, they have to use, it was a dry Grand Prix, they have to use

1:17:10 > 1:17:10

1:17:10 > 1:17:20both types of tyre during this 44- lap race. Hits the DRS zone, opens

1:17:20 > 1:17:28the flap and it will gain him 20kph or the terse -- kilometres an hour.

1:17:28 > 1:17:33Ted? TED KRAVITZ: that DRS zone making overtaking very easy.

1:17:33 > 1:17:43McLaren comes out for Lewis Hamilton. That was good for Lewis

1:17:43 > 1:17:44

1:17:44 > 1:17:48Hamilton that Fernando Alonso was held up. RADIO: Blistering tyres.

1:17:48 > 1:17:56Nico Rosberg's engine is fine, but his braibs were smoking on the grid.

1:17:56 > 1:17:59As Lewis Hamilton pits. They don't look that bad. There was some

1:17:59 > 1:18:05blistering on the inside-edge. They are not concerned about the

1:18:05 > 1:18:13construction, but they don't know, once you break that surface, will

1:18:13 > 1:18:22it delaminate. It is a long lap. Very high speed over 240 kilometres

1:18:22 > 1:18:28an hour average speed. They all ering on the side of caution.

1:18:28 > 1:18:33Hamilton slots back in. We missed the bravery of Rosberg and

1:18:33 > 1:18:37Sebastian Vettel going through Blanchmont side by side. That is

1:18:37 > 1:18:42not something I would want. There are some reasons why I am not doing

1:18:42 > 1:18:46this any more, I wouldn't want to be side by side with Fernando

1:18:46 > 1:18:52Alonso on Eau Rouge or through Blanchmont. Sebastian Vettel was

1:18:52 > 1:18:56not going to give up. RADIO: Vettel has blistered his new tyres.

1:18:56 > 1:19:03Remember what we talked about, take it easy if you can. Remind us why

1:19:03 > 1:19:07the Red Bull is harder on its front tyres? Apparently they're running a

1:19:08 > 1:19:12higher front camber. It is not highest in the grid, but that puts

1:19:12 > 1:19:16more heat on the shoulders and that could be one of the reasons. It

1:19:16 > 1:19:20could be he is just going faster. Camber, they lean the top of the

1:19:20 > 1:19:25tyre in. Your road cars have it a bit. Lean the top of the tyre and

1:19:25 > 1:19:32when you go around the corner and the tyre tux under through loads,

1:19:32 > 1:19:42you frepbt the face of the tyre -- you present the face of the tyre to

1:19:42 > 1:19:43

1:19:43 > 1:19:47the track better and you don't put as much camber on the rears.

1:19:47 > 1:19:54don't want that for traction, too much rear camber will affect your

1:19:54 > 1:19:59ability to put the footprint down. But it will help you. We have now

1:19:59 > 1:20:04got Rosberg in the pits. Shuement Michael Schumacher is up there with

1:20:04 > 1:20:10-- Michael Schumacher us up there with Massa and Button. That was a

1:20:10 > 1:20:16slow stop. He has gone again to the soft tyre. Why are they not, if

1:20:16 > 1:20:22they're blistering tyres, why aren't they going to the more

1:20:22 > 1:20:27secure compound? Because of the lap time, the option tyre is over a

1:20:27 > 1:20:31second quicker. The blistering is a concern for the tyres, but not in

1:20:31 > 1:20:38term of lap time. You don't want to give away that performance of the

1:20:38 > 1:20:42running on the harder tyre. There is Mark Webber on the medium

1:20:42 > 1:20:47compound tyre. That was a pass for position. He is now up to fourth

1:20:47 > 1:20:57having passed Kobayashi. Petrov is in sixth, Sutil seventh, Lewis

1:20:57 > 1:21:01Hamilton is eighth. Nico Rosberg has now left the pits. We see Lewis

1:21:01 > 1:21:05Hamilton on Sutil again. The second time he has passed Sutil, having

1:21:06 > 1:21:13made a pit stop in between. Lewis Hamilton then has been told, what

1:21:13 > 1:21:20we talked about, let's work out how the -- to protect the front tyres.

1:21:20 > 1:21:25It is the corner where the tyres are sliding across the track that

1:21:25 > 1:21:31overheats them. Fernando Alonso still piling on the sector times.

1:21:31 > 1:21:38Sebastian Vettel leads on lap 12 from Fernando Alonso. And on board

1:21:38 > 1:21:48with Lewis Hamilton next. The target is Petrov. You can't get on

1:21:48 > 1:21:55the inside at Blanchmont. And passed in a flash. The faster car

1:21:55 > 1:22:05sh better tyres. Fernando Alonso, another new fastest lap. But Mark

1:22:05 > 1:22:11Webber is matching that. Fernando Alonso is over a second faster than

1:22:11 > 1:22:15Sebastian Vettel. So the next four laps will be on him. That is Lewis

1:22:15 > 1:22:19Hamilton taking Kobayashi with that damaged front wing. I imagine his

1:22:19 > 1:22:25car is sliding around and understeering badly. And Lewis

1:22:25 > 1:22:30Hamilton can use the DRS, because he was within a second, when even

1:22:30 > 1:22:34though he passed oh contacted, Lewis Hamilton into the barriers,

1:22:34 > 1:22:38and Kobayashi came back on the outside of him. Lewis wasn't aware

1:22:38 > 1:22:43that he was there. Or chose and into the tyres. Lewis Hamilton out

1:22:43 > 1:22:49of the Grand Prix. He thought he had got the pass done. But

1:22:49 > 1:22:53Kobayashi was coming back at him. It has still got the DRS wide-open.

1:22:53 > 1:22:58Bizarre how Kobayashi had so much top speed, he didn't have his DRS

1:22:59 > 1:23:05open. And he was getting passed by hue wis. Lewis Hamilton will be

1:23:05 > 1:23:10fine after that. No big impact. Slid along the barrier. But the

1:23:10 > 1:23:16safety car is out. That is obviously very bad news for Lewis

1:23:16 > 1:23:20Hamilton. But good news for the runners who are concern about

1:23:20 > 1:23:26blistering tyres. But it is just he doesn't seem to be able to find the

1:23:26 > 1:23:33luck this year. If there is is an incident that is marginal. I don't

1:23:33 > 1:23:36think he was at fault there. He was already, he had made the move.

1:23:36 > 1:23:45Going down the hill. He thinks he has got the move down and he goes

1:23:45 > 1:23:49over to take his normal racing line it is a big initial impact. I agree

1:23:49 > 1:23:54with you, it shouldn't be too serious. And unsurprisingly, Red

1:23:54 > 1:23:58Bull are using the safety car opportunity to make what could be a

1:23:58 > 1:24:02three pit stop, other than losing track position in the crocodile

1:24:02 > 1:24:08that forms behind the safety car. Having seen it again, how do you

1:24:08 > 1:24:13apportion blame in that incident? Well it didn't look like Lewis was

1:24:13 > 1:24:18moving back across to the left. He was still giving him space. You can

1:24:18 > 1:24:21see the Red Bull out there. Jenson Button is in for a stop. It look

1:24:21 > 1:24:25like Kobayashi started to turn in before Lewis Hamilton started to

1:24:25 > 1:24:31turn in. You can't do that. You can't just turn in and hope the guy

1:24:31 > 1:24:35on the inside is going to respond. We need to see a few more camera

1:24:35 > 1:24:38angles. But any way you cut it, not a good afternoon for Lewis Hamilton.

1:24:38 > 1:24:43It seemed to me as if Lewis Hamilton hadn't recognised that

1:24:43 > 1:24:47Kobayashi was coming back at him. I think he thought he had got the

1:24:47 > 1:24:50pass done. I don't think I understand why Kobayashi thought he

1:24:50 > 1:24:54could go around the outside. He would have to filter in. When he

1:24:54 > 1:24:58reflects on it, he will think that is a missed opportunity. So your

1:24:59 > 1:25:05point is why was Kobayashi putting his car there and not falling into

1:25:05 > 1:25:10line? You lose less time. When you're being overtaken, you accept

1:25:10 > 1:25:17that and you try and minimise the time loss. Because if you cannot

1:25:17 > 1:25:21lose an extra amount, that might be crucial to help you re-pass the guy,

1:25:21 > 1:25:25or later. Look at that, the barrier's separated where the front

1:25:25 > 1:25:30of that car has made impact. Here we go. I think Lewis Hamilton, he

1:25:30 > 1:25:35is looking right, he looking at the apex and not at his left hand

1:25:35 > 1:25:42mirror. He thinks he is ahead. he wasn't moving to left. Kobayashi

1:25:42 > 1:25:48started to turn in. We need to see that again. If we get the chance

1:25:48 > 1:25:57while the safety car it out. Here we go. Let's see the direction of

1:25:57 > 1:26:04travel Lewis Hamilton has gone relative to the inside of the track.

1:26:04 > 1:26:08That is why those noses are so heavily crash tested. It did what

1:26:08 > 1:26:12it should to absorb the energy. Lewis Hamilton was on the full left

1:26:12 > 1:26:17hand side of the track and then moved to the middle. Almost as if

1:26:18 > 1:26:22he felt he needed to defend again. Ted is at McLaren. TED KRAVITZ: the

1:26:22 > 1:26:26team say that Lewis Hamilton is fine. They believe his favure to

1:26:26 > 1:26:31move was because he was winded. But it was frustration. He was going so

1:26:31 > 1:26:34well. He was looking after the tyres and had Red Bull under

1:26:34 > 1:26:38control, McLaren feel, and would have been close with Fernando

1:26:38 > 1:26:41Alonso for the lead and perhaps the victory. So they feel it was Lewis

1:26:41 > 1:26:51Hamilton being ultraannoyed and frustrated. He has been taken out

1:26:51 > 1:26:59of a race he could have won. Indeed. As we see the HRT of Daniel

1:26:59 > 1:27:04Ricciardo. Is he going on the -- to be the fourth driver to retire?

1:27:04 > 1:27:11Kobayashi is in the pits, new tyres and new front wing. Here is a run

1:27:11 > 1:27:17down of the order after all those stops and crashes. Fernando Alonso

1:27:17 > 1:27:22leads the Grand Prix. From Mark Webber. Sebastian Vettel is third.

1:27:22 > 1:27:28Felipe Massa fourth, Nico Rosberg fifth, Kobayashi was sixth but

1:27:28 > 1:27:32pitted. Then its Adrian Sutil and then Sergio Perez, Petrov, Michael

1:27:32 > 1:27:38Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello. Jenson Button pitted as well. We

1:27:38 > 1:27:44will have to see when they all form up behind the safety car what the

1:27:44 > 1:27:49line up is. Sebastian Vettel has got a free pit stop out of this. He

1:27:49 > 1:27:51has done two stops sh put another set of option tyres on in third.

1:27:51 > 1:27:55Because when Fernando Alonso and Mark Webber go for their second

1:27:55 > 1:27:59stops, we know that will cost them at least 20 seconds on the track.

1:27:59 > 1:28:02They're unlikely to be able to break away from Sebastian Vettel.

1:28:02 > 1:28:08Don't forget the restart. So the big question is how far can you go

1:28:08 > 1:28:15on that second set, or that third set of option tyres? Third and

1:28:15 > 1:28:19final set of option tyres. And he is forced to use the white-marked

1:28:19 > 1:28:23medium tyre. Team boss Christian Horner. He will be thinking, here

1:28:23 > 1:28:26is one driver we haven't got to beat this afternoon, which is Lewis

1:28:26 > 1:28:31Hamilton. Lewis Hamilton was a serious contender to win this race.

1:28:31 > 1:28:36Ferrari have looked good from the start. And despite everything, Red

1:28:36 > 1:28:44Bull, despite tyre changes and different strategies, Red Bull are

1:28:44 > 1:28:52very much in the action. Nico Rosberg staying in there too. So we

1:28:52 > 1:29:00will get, as they come out of the second part, we will gate full run

1:29:00 > 1:29:07down soon. When the line goes through this point I will give you

1:29:07 > 1:29:14a full run down of exactly what the order is. We're on lap 15, Fernando

1:29:14 > 1:29:19Alonso from Mark Webber, Sebastian Vettel, Felipe Massa, Kobayashi,

1:29:19 > 1:29:22still showing sixth, I don't know in if that is right. Adrian Sutil,

1:29:22 > 1:29:32Paul di Resta, Sergio Perez, Vitaly Petrov. And then Michael Schumacher

1:29:32 > 1:29:49

1:29:49 > 1:29:52Timo Glock. Out of the Grand Prix. Alguersuari, Sebastien Buemi. No

1:29:52 > 1:29:59sign of the safety car coming in, they are the men who will make that

1:29:59 > 1:30:03decision. As to win they are satisfied that the area has been

1:30:03 > 1:30:10cleaned up. When they be concerned about that barrier looking at that

1:30:10 > 1:30:14second hand? By I think they will be. The chances of having another

1:30:14 > 1:30:21car hitting that in exactly the same players are slim but can you

1:30:21 > 1:30:28take the risk? They might take the view that it still falls under FAI

1:30:28 > 1:30:32regulations. It did look a more open than I would have felt

1:30:32 > 1:30:37comfortable with if I was barrelling towards it. What are the

1:30:37 > 1:30:47chances of any car doing that again? Personally, I would not stop

1:30:47 > 1:30:49

1:30:49 > 1:30:52the Grand Prix for it to repair the barrier. We have all been up there,

1:30:52 > 1:30:59with punctures and failed suspension and brakes but we tend

1:30:59 > 1:31:06to go straight on. Once the car actually stop on the left-hand side,

1:31:06 > 1:31:11along the wrong and they continued racing and we all agreed afterwards

1:31:11 > 1:31:21we should not have a stationary car on the track and it was in an area

1:31:21 > 1:31:21

1:31:21 > 1:31:25where they could not recover the car without the safety car. It is

1:31:25 > 1:31:29obviously not the situation we are looking at you. They are taking

1:31:29 > 1:31:34their time and getting that he churchy out of the way. Another

1:31:34 > 1:31:38line on strategy, Sebastian Vettel, the winner of this safety car

1:31:38 > 1:31:43period by coming in and changing tyres, and he will take the lead

1:31:43 > 1:31:51when Fernando Alonso needs to pit. His tyres are nine abseiled down

1:31:51 > 1:31:54but he could have given them a rest at some point under this system.

1:31:54 > 1:32:02Whoever is running that conscious strategy, he will be faster towards

1:32:02 > 1:32:11the end of the race. This is the 10th Belgian Grand Prix. That has

1:32:11 > 1:32:15been affected by safety cars. They are a relatively recent thing and

1:32:15 > 1:32:20the high-speed nature means if you do have an excellent, it is high

1:32:20 > 1:32:26speed. They have bolted. You can overtake as an issue have got over

1:32:26 > 1:32:31that line and it will then be a drag race down to the first corner.

1:32:31 > 1:32:37And it is Sebastian Vettel going up the inside of Mark Webber. Webber

1:32:38 > 1:32:44maintain his position as we see Perez on the inside of petrol. No

1:32:44 > 1:32:51contact this time around. And Fernando Alonso confidently leading

1:32:51 > 1:32:56from the two squabbling Red Bull cars. Felipe Massa, reinvigorated.

1:32:56 > 1:33:01Adrian Sutil behind him, Rosberg did keep his position. Rosberg

1:33:01 > 1:33:09might go down the outside of Felipe Massa and he takes possession.

1:33:09 > 1:33:17Fairly close to the living Ferrari, as well. -- leading Ferrari. Past

1:33:17 > 1:33:22Rubens Barrichello. A long way to go this afternoon yet. Fernando

1:33:22 > 1:33:31Alonso, Sebastian Vettel, Mark Webber is third, he has made his

1:33:31 > 1:33:39way past his team-mate and Rosberg is behind him. Sebastian Vettel

1:33:39 > 1:33:45making fresh use of those tyres. He is getting lined up to pass

1:33:45 > 1:33:52Fernando Alonso on this lap. There is Michael Schumacher, up into 9th

1:33:52 > 1:33:56place. Having started in 24th on the grid. Michael Schumacher making

1:33:56 > 1:34:02his way through and staying out of trouble. He has pitted twice.

1:34:02 > 1:34:06Sebastian Vettel also. So has Jensen Button, actually. If we look

1:34:06 > 1:34:11at the pace of that Red Bull, chasing down the Ferrari. Will he

1:34:11 > 1:34:16be having a go up the inside? They clashed badly with Jensen Button

1:34:16 > 1:34:25last year. There is Button on the outside of petrol. He will try to

1:34:25 > 1:34:30run in on the outside. Button should get a better exit. Very good

1:34:30 > 1:34:35on the brakes. Going down the outside of Vitaly Petrov, he has to

1:34:35 > 1:34:41get out of the way because Sergio Perez is so tight on the brakes. He

1:34:41 > 1:34:45goes left and wide. Gets could drive and he takes two places but

1:34:45 > 1:34:50Button crucially gains two places. What a tremendous race going on

1:34:50 > 1:34:55there and now a Sebastian Vettel is around the outside of Fernando

1:34:55 > 1:35:02Alonso. Will he be able to brake around the outside? He does.

1:35:02 > 1:35:06Fernando Alonso being very kind, there, I would have thought.

1:35:06 > 1:35:09get diminishing returns with the Kers system at high speed. Full

1:35:09 > 1:35:16defence mode from Fernando Alonso and full attack from Sebastian

1:35:16 > 1:35:24Vettel. Lewis Hamilton Sandler becomes a spectator. I wonder how

1:35:24 > 1:35:29he sees that? What about this? Sebastian Vettel off the top of the

1:35:29 > 1:35:35home, he is so happy with the grip of these tyres, the perfect tyres,

1:35:35 > 1:35:39absolute wheel to wheel action. He left Fernando Alonso a little bit

1:35:39 > 1:35:44have run in case he was thinking of coming back up the inside. Both

1:35:44 > 1:35:53Williams cars in the 11th and Twelfth. Barrichello and Maldonado.

1:35:53 > 1:35:59Paul di Resta and Kobayashi behind them. Kovaleinen in 18th place.

1:35:59 > 1:36:07Timo Glock, 20th. Schumacher is back up into 7th place. Button must

1:36:07 > 1:36:12be eighth place? Schumacher and Button, two former world champions,

1:36:12 > 1:36:20making their way through the field very nicely indeed. On lap 18. We

1:36:20 > 1:36:28have just gone into the 19th lap. And that Looks Like Trouble, to me!

1:36:28 > 1:36:34The camera angle isn't doing this just as, the cars look quick coming

1:36:34 > 1:36:39into the braking son. Barrichello down the inside of Sergio Perez.

1:36:39 > 1:36:47Gets himself on the inside. That is where they had contact with Lewis

1:36:47 > 1:36:53Hamilton. He thinks better of it this time. Through Eau Rouge. They

1:36:53 > 1:36:56will get the activation this time. Sergio Perez thinks he has to brake

1:36:56 > 1:37:01and then count to three before he finds the right breaking-point.

1:37:02 > 1:37:11Look at that, he just steams past Williams, it easily. At the top of

1:37:11 > 1:37:17the hill. And retakes that position. Kobayashi on the back of Paul di

1:37:17 > 1:37:24Resta. That was extraordinary. looks like Williams have got a huge

1:37:24 > 1:37:29amount of rear wing, as it sits in the dirty air of the air box but

1:37:29 > 1:37:36compared to the skinny wing of the Sauber in front, it looks like

1:37:36 > 1:37:40they're trying to drag more downforce out of this car. They are

1:37:40 > 1:37:45sitting ducks on the back straight. Michael Schumacher has polled one

1:37:45 > 1:37:52of the fastest first sectors of the entire Grand Prix. We know it isn't

1:37:53 > 1:38:02a problem for this, it isn't a disastrous strategy. Meaning the

1:38:03 > 1:38:03

1:38:03 > 1:38:07safety car, presumably? Or the fact that these are fresher tyres.

1:38:07 > 1:38:14Reminding Fernando to stay calm and stick with it. Take those tyres as

1:38:14 > 1:38:22far as you can. Sebastian Vettel one second faster than Fernando

1:38:22 > 1:38:28Alonso on that lap. He has been told that Sebastian Vettel ahead of

1:38:28 > 1:38:34you isn't a big problem for us. is only one second per lap faster

1:38:34 > 1:38:41at the moment but do not panic! DRS is enabled, disabled when the

1:38:41 > 1:38:47safety car comes out. That means they have to do another to complete

1:38:47 > 1:38:52laps before it is enabled another time and this is Felipe Massa.

1:38:52 > 1:38:58Chasing down Nico Rosberg in 4th place. They are about 1.5 seconds

1:38:58 > 1:39:05behind Fernando Alonso. Sergio Perez, Barrichello, Maldonado, Paul

1:39:05 > 1:39:11di Resta. 10, 11, 12. Kobayashi is in there as well and Bruno Senna is

1:39:11 > 1:39:17holding station in 15. A bit of a roller-coaster ride for his first

1:39:17 > 1:39:23grand prix with the team. Still no were... That was a horrible amount

1:39:23 > 1:39:30of understeer from Felipe Massa. The cars will still be reasonably

1:39:30 > 1:39:34happy with fuel. 80 kilos or slightly less at the stage. We will

1:39:34 > 1:39:41stay on this tyre and then one more option at the end, that is the

1:39:41 > 1:39:45quickest race. They must hate having to say that over the radio

1:39:45 > 1:39:51so that everyone can hear. This is shaping up with Button against

1:39:51 > 1:39:56Schumacher. Schumacher in 7th at the moment. But in his really

1:39:56 > 1:40:00finding some speed. And he is in a good position. If Mike believes in

1:40:00 > 1:40:08any space? Michael is laid on the brakes, he can still get into the

1:40:08 > 1:40:15corner. So, Michael, having none of that whatsoever. Very good traction

1:40:15 > 1:40:20coming out of this last chicane. On the Run down to the source. I think

1:40:20 > 1:40:30he will deploy his Kers system On the Run down to Eau Rouge and look

1:40:30 > 1:40:32

1:40:32 > 1:40:36to get that duress activation. -- DRS. He will have to sell him a

1:40:36 > 1:40:42dummy because Michael pretty much knows how to defend the line.

1:40:42 > 1:40:46Better than anyone else he has left the inside open. Incredible top

1:40:46 > 1:40:52speed from that Mercedes car. they don't have an performance in

1:40:52 > 1:40:58the corners, they have for the race. Huge top speed. That is an

1:40:58 > 1:41:03impressive performance from Rosberg. Great comeback from 21st, Surrey,

1:41:03 > 1:41:0724th, for Schumacher. No further action will be taken, interests and

1:41:07 > 1:41:13the, on the incident between Hamilton and Kobayashi. At the top

1:41:13 > 1:41:23of the hill. That will not be investigated after the race. --

1:41:23 > 1:41:27

1:41:27 > 1:41:31interesting way. I am surprised by that. -- interestingly. Nothing to

1:41:31 > 1:41:40do with Nigel Mansell being up there, he can only advise. They

1:41:40 > 1:41:48will have to open up the rule book and advise. We have also got under

1:41:48 > 1:41:53investigation, Sergio Perez and Sebastien Buemi. The scenario with

1:41:53 > 1:41:55Ferrari is they believe they can make at least one less stop and

1:41:55 > 1:41:58Sebastian Vettel and that is reflected in the fact that Fernando

1:41:58 > 1:42:06Alonso seems to be doing pretty well on these tyres, which are

1:42:06 > 1:42:09getting fairly old by now and his lap times are pretty good. 52.9,

1:42:09 > 1:42:14comparable to Sebastian Vettel and the other advantage is that when

1:42:14 > 1:42:19Sebastian Vettel runs out, Fernando Alonso will have an extra set of

1:42:19 > 1:42:27soft tyres. Sebastian Vettel will have to go on to the median tyre

1:42:27 > 1:42:37earlier. That would explain that radio message. And Button was super

1:42:37 > 1:42:40

1:42:40 > 1:42:44late on the brakes. Nico Rosberg still fighting off Felipe Massa.

1:42:44 > 1:42:50Sergio Perez has a drive-through for causing a collision. I don't

1:42:50 > 1:42:54think we saw that on the screen. We saw the damage and we saw Sebastien

1:42:54 > 1:42:59Buemi without his rear wing but we did not see the contact. He is

1:42:59 > 1:43:04currently running 10. Just outside the points position. And he has a

1:43:04 > 1:43:11drive-through penalty. You cannot stop for any work or tyres. Just

1:43:11 > 1:43:18keep going through their at 100 kilometres, around 60 mph. You have

1:43:18 > 1:43:28to serve that within three laps. is like passing goal in Monopoly

1:43:28 > 1:43:31

1:43:31 > 1:43:36and not picking up 200. It is a pointless pit stop. We are just

1:43:36 > 1:43:41through the have distance. And Sebastian Vettel leads by 3.9

1:43:41 > 1:43:46seconds over Fernando Alonso. He is two seconds ahead of Mark Webber,

1:43:46 > 1:43:503.7 clear of Rosberg and could this be...? But under standing outside

1:43:50 > 1:43:55this time but Adrian Sutil having none of that, he braked as late as

1:43:55 > 1:44:01he needed to. Just to fend off the McLaren. But it is only a matter of

1:44:01 > 1:44:07time, surely. The kind of confidence bottom has got. He is

1:44:07 > 1:44:12marching through the pack. The car looks fantastic and the brakes. Not

1:44:12 > 1:44:21quite so good on the attraction. His commitment on the braking was

1:44:21 > 1:44:31brave stuff. We heard about the incident between Hamilton and

1:44:31 > 1:44:37

1:44:37 > 1:44:42Kobayashi not been investigated and to be honest. I remember sitting on

1:44:42 > 1:44:48the wall and hit the wall hard. The team were in a good position. As

1:44:48 > 1:44:56far as I was concerned, I was ahead of whoever it was I was racing and

1:44:56 > 1:45:01I got hit and that was my race over. There has been a lot of races we

1:45:01 > 1:45:08haven't finished and that is just another one. How kid you -- did you

1:45:08 > 1:45:13this you were faering? I think we were struggling. For whatever

1:45:13 > 1:45:18reason we were massively slow on the straight. I guess that is what

1:45:18 > 1:45:23got us in that position. Everyone was just pulling away from me on

1:45:23 > 1:45:28the straights. I was probably having too much down force. We were

1:45:28 > 1:45:34in a good position still and still able to challenge. We got past one

1:45:34 > 1:45:38of the Ferraris. Maybe now we got a podium. I'm hearing that the

1:45:38 > 1:45:48stewards are not taking any further action, do you think that is the

1:45:48 > 1:45:49

1:45:49 > 1:45:56rigt decision? -- Right decision? dejected Lewis Hamilton. We saw

1:45:56 > 1:46:02Jenson Button sailing past Sutil as well. He is quickly catching Felipe

1:46:02 > 1:46:06Massa, who has dropped from Nico Rosberg. We saw on board a very

1:46:06 > 1:46:11dark patch on the inside of Sebastian Vettel's front tyres as

1:46:11 > 1:46:16the rubber starts to erupts. It overheats and blisters and bursts

1:46:16 > 1:46:20open. Then they're worried about the integrity of the carcass of the

1:46:20 > 1:46:25tyre. He was radioing in saying, I'm seeing those marks you told

1:46:25 > 1:46:30know look out for. This is Jenson Button on the back of Felipe Massa.

1:46:30 > 1:46:34Jenson Button in sixth place at the moment. Button could be looking

1:46:34 > 1:46:41good for fourth place. Mark Webber's only five and a half

1:46:41 > 1:46:46seconds ahead of Rosberg in fourth. Massa is getting wide there. Jenson

1:46:46 > 1:46:51Button getting himself in position. Could he deploy KERS in the run

1:46:51 > 1:46:56down to Blanchmont? Too far back. But you wouldn't bet against him

1:46:56 > 1:47:01having a look down into the chicane. It was quite slow down there. It

1:47:01 > 1:47:08needed an extra down shift on the way in, such is the lack of grip.

1:47:08 > 1:47:13They in the 1 minute 52 and 53s, but Jenson Button is looking strong,

1:47:13 > 1:47:18there is no markings on his front tyres No markings on the inside.

1:47:18 > 1:47:25You can see the darker grey patches. When you slow down into a slow

1:47:25 > 1:47:30corner you can look at them and get a better picture. Or even your own

1:47:30 > 1:47:37rear tyres through mirrors. Look how close Jenson Button is to Massa,

1:47:37 > 1:47:41he tries down the outside. Massa, will he let him turn in? Oh he has

1:47:41 > 1:47:48got through. Another brave and sensational move from Jenson Button

1:47:48 > 1:47:51to take over fifth place from Felipe Massa. Felipe Massa, good

1:47:51 > 1:47:56sportsmanship there. Jenson Button put total trust in Felipe Massa

1:47:56 > 1:48:01there. He wasn't going to tag him around into a spin. That is the

1:48:01 > 1:48:06respect between the drivers. Jenson Button did well on the brakes, got

1:48:06 > 1:48:11himself on the outsaid, trusted Massa. And if I was wearing a hat,

1:48:11 > 1:48:16I would take it off the both of them. That was great racing.

1:48:16 > 1:48:24must not discount Mark Webber. 7.4 seconds off the lead. But he has

1:48:24 > 1:48:29the harder compound tyre out of the way. He could be fast attend.

1:48:29 > 1:48:36others haven't. It is such a long track. There is a certain amount of

1:48:36 > 1:48:42evolution of the track. We will keep an eye on that. We're on lap

1:48:42 > 1:48:47256789 Ted. TED KRAVITZ: did David want to say something else. In a

1:48:47 > 1:48:53minute. I will try to say something. To say is what going on in tyres,

1:48:53 > 1:48:59you saw the team radio message, Fernando Alonso is said we're

1:48:59 > 1:49:08reaching phase two the the tyres. He has now down 17 lapse on the

1:49:08 > 1:49:11tyres. Ferrari will think about a stop. I wonder if they can only two

1:49:11 > 1:49:14two stops. We're thinking Three stops for Fernando Alonso and four

1:49:14 > 1:49:18for Sebastian Vettel. The radio message from Sebastian Vettel is my

1:49:18 > 1:49:23front left is starting to blister again. You can see it clearly there

1:49:23 > 1:49:27in that replay. It doesn't, sometimes we see them looking

1:49:27 > 1:49:33uglier than that. Look at this. Jenson Button taking a lot of

1:49:33 > 1:49:39chances. Please don't take one too many, because you're on for a great

1:49:39 > 1:49:44result. Nico Rosberg is in fourth and only just by 0.1 of a second as

1:49:44 > 1:49:54they cross the line. Nico Rosberg takes up his position to drive into

1:49:54 > 1:50:04La Source hair Ben. Rosberg must have made a police take, he did

1:50:04 > 1:50:04

1:50:04 > 1:50:091.55.and button did 53.2. -- mistake. Jenson Button has got the

1:50:09 > 1:50:14rear wing open and job done. Nico Rosberg's tyres are fading I think.

1:50:14 > 1:50:21Look at the distance he pulled out. That is the sort of distance that

1:50:21 > 1:50:28Lewis thought he had gone over Kobayashi. Or as he said, whoever I

1:50:28 > 1:50:37was racing. He also thought he hadn't finished a lot of races.

1:50:37 > 1:50:41This is actually only his second non-finish. Now let's look at one

1:50:41 > 1:50:45of the easier passes that Jenson Button has made today. He thinks

1:50:45 > 1:50:53about going up the inside. Rosberg covers it and he said, I don't care.

1:50:53 > 1:50:59That is one we will look at after. You see how Hu pulled out of the

1:50:59 > 1:51:06slip stream at Eau Rouge, dropped speed and then made sure he didn't

1:51:06 > 1:51:12catch him too early. RADIO: How far are we in front. Cars in front are

1:51:12 > 1:51:17eight seconds ahead. They're suffering from blistering. Music to

1:51:17 > 1:51:23his ears. Are you following with what I was saying. You have a blank

1:51:24 > 1:51:29expression. I am with you. But more blisters, but Fernando Alonso said

1:51:29 > 1:51:38they're OK. There's blisters, but can I cope wit. But that was a

1:51:38 > 1:51:46rally call from Button. How far Ahed are they. His next Mark Webber

1:51:46 > 1:51:50would be -- victim would be Mark Webber. They're on about the same

1:51:50 > 1:51:54speed as Sebastian Vettel. But they're all suffering from

1:51:54 > 1:52:00blistered tyres. So Jenson Button could bring himself nicely into the

1:52:00 > 1:52:04action. Ted? TED KRAVITZ: Jenson Button has got the slower harder

1:52:04 > 1:52:09tyre phase out of the way. He started on those tyres. And changed

1:52:09 > 1:52:13when he had to pit for his broken nose. I'm not betting man, but do

1:52:13 > 1:52:20Wau want to put on a fiver for charity that Jenson Button might

1:52:20 > 1:52:25win this race? Well, I will... Give you a fiver to charity and take

1:52:25 > 1:52:29your bet. I think he has got a lot of work to do to win. But he has

1:52:29 > 1:52:34got to... He has got to beat this man. Mark Webber has also got his

1:52:34 > 1:52:44hard tyre out of way. It could be Mark Webber versus Jenson Button.

1:52:44 > 1:52:52Mark Webber hear -- has been holding on nicely. We have Rosberg

1:52:52 > 1:52:59falling back into the grass. Massa there, fifth and sixth they're

1:52:59 > 1:53:03fighting over. Michael Schumacher is struggling. Sebastian Vettel

1:53:03 > 1:53:11from Fernando Alonso, Mark Webber, Nico Rosberg, Felipe Massa, Adrian

1:53:11 > 1:53:17Sutil. Force India going well. Michael Schumacher is eighth. Mald

1:53:17 > 1:53:24is up into tenth. Williams only have four points this year. Paul di

1:53:24 > 1:53:28Resta is 12th. And out of points, Kobayashi, 13th. There is the man

1:53:28 > 1:53:33on the move, Jenson Button. About a third of a second faster than the

1:53:33 > 1:53:38men he is trying to catch. That is not a lot. It is not enough at this

1:53:38 > 1:53:42point. He is still 7.8 seconds behind Mark Webber in third and 16

1:53:42 > 1:53:51seconds off the leader. On board with Michael Schumacher. Adrian

1:53:51 > 1:53:57Sutil I in front. They're lapping like for like. 1.54.7. That is 1.8

1:53:57 > 1:54:03seconds off the leader. There is a yellow out there. In sector 12.

1:54:03 > 1:54:13Something's going on. I will have a look in a moment. We will gate slot

1:54:13 > 1:54:23

1:54:23 > 1:54:29of why we have got yellow -- get a shot of why we have yellow flags.

1:54:29 > 1:54:33As Felipe Massa then falls down, cascades down the hill, towards the

1:54:33 > 1:54:38Pouhon corner. We have got car 17 has left the road. That is why we

1:54:38 > 1:54:48have got yellow flags. That is Sergio Perez, continuing his

1:54:48 > 1:54:48

1:54:48 > 1:54:56difficult afternoon. Michael Schumacher then is ahead of Petrov.

1:54:56 > 1:54:59Who is ninth. Senna with his drive- through penalty and his pit stops.

1:54:59 > 1:55:05Down to 16th now. Ahead of Jerome D'Ambrosio, Glock, Vitantonio

1:55:05 > 1:55:13Liuzzi is just leaving the pits in 19th. Sergio Perez at the tail of

1:55:13 > 1:55:18the faeld now. Here is a replay. -- tail of the field. That looks like

1:55:18 > 1:55:26a broken suspension. Broken right rear. We saw him coming into the

1:55:26 > 1:55:31pits. I think the car will be retiring. Indeed. On update on the

1:55:31 > 1:55:38battle between Mark Webber and Jenson Button. 53.6 from Mark

1:55:38 > 1:55:44Webber. The gap is down to just 6.8 seconds. Peter Sauber looking down

1:55:44 > 1:55:50the pit lane, because Sergio Perez becomes the fifth retirement of

1:55:50 > 1:55:55this Grand Prix. And well we saw Sebastian Vettel leap off pole

1:55:55 > 1:56:02position. Mark Webber had a poor start. Went into anti-stall and

1:56:02 > 1:56:08went nowhere. Both Ferraris flying off the grid. Raid ray you the

1:56:08 > 1:56:14quickest car on the circuit, this is brilliant. He has got a broken

1:56:14 > 1:56:20rear wing as well. I don't know if that is, is that the trailing edge

1:56:20 > 1:56:27of the rear wing? It won't be load- bearing I don't think. But it looks

1:56:27 > 1:56:31like a movable device. It took a knock didn't it? With the Senna,

1:56:31 > 1:56:37Jaime Alguersuari incident in the first corner. Down in the first

1:56:37 > 1:56:45corner, multiple contacts, both Lotuss getting together. Senna

1:56:45 > 1:56:52taking out Jaime Alguersuari wholike took out Fernando Alonso.

1:56:52 > 1:56:57Then finding amazing speed, Nico Rosberg took the lead. But

1:56:57 > 1:57:01relatively short-lived as Sebastian Vettel came back him. Since then it

1:57:01 > 1:57:04has been the story of needing to come into the pits to change tyres.

1:57:04 > 1:57:08This is Fernando Alonso's second stop of the afternoon. Chose a

1:57:08 > 1:57:14different strategy to some. And it is the medium compound, the harder

1:57:14 > 1:57:20of the two compounds they have got to run. And he will be hoping that

1:57:20 > 1:57:25he will get to the end of Grand Prix. He can do it on tyre wear. He

1:57:25 > 1:57:30will be slower than a new set of options of course. But let's see

1:57:30 > 1:57:34how his basis as he rejoins the track. Nicely in front of Nico

1:57:34 > 1:57:38Rosberg. Puts him into nice clear air. So Fernando Alonso back on the

1:57:38 > 1:57:44track and up to speed. Ahead of Nico Rosberg. Felipe Massa and

1:57:44 > 1:57:48Adrian Sutil. Here is Ted. KRAVITZ: at Red Bull they say

1:57:48 > 1:57:55although Sebastian Vettel has the blister problems, his basis OK and

1:57:55 > 1:57:58he has been told to go on. Is Sebastian Vettel going back to a

1:57:58 > 1:58:04three stop and Ferrari realising they have to put Fernando Alonsoen

1:58:04 > 1:58:10a two stop and go to the end of the race. We will see if that works and

1:58:10 > 1:58:16what his basis with these tyres. But Jenson Button's flying. He is a

1:58:16 > 1:58:26second a lap quicker than the leader what that time as the track

1:58:26 > 1:58:27

1:58:27 > 1:58:32resolving rg, they are aiming at moving goalposts. Button only 15

1:58:32 > 1:58:36seconds off the lead and still motoring nicely indeed. Sebastian

1:58:36 > 1:58:40Vettel leads. From Mark Webber, Fernando Alonso, Jenson Button,

1:58:40 > 1:58:48Nico Rosberg and Felipe Massa. And Sebastian Vettel then comes in the

1:58:48 > 1:58:54pits, and will go on to the medium compound tyre. This time and his

1:58:54 > 1:58:58boys are ready for him. A nice straight approach. You don't have

1:58:58 > 1:59:03to duck around anyone's air guns. And launch out of there straight

1:59:03 > 1:59:08into the pit limiter, which you only switch off as you cross the

1:59:08 > 1:59:15white line at the end. His car will be feeling better and better. That

1:59:16 > 1:59:21was a reasonable pit stop, 2.8 seconds. Button just going through

1:59:21 > 1:59:30in front of Sebastian. A new set of tyres, getting into the light fuel

1:59:30 > 1:59:40zone. The tyres and the track evolving. Rosberg, Massa and Petrov

1:59:40 > 1:59:56

1:59:56 > 2:00:05all pitting. We see Paul di Resta Barrichello defending against Nico

2:00:05 > 2:00:15Rosberg he has come out of the pits. Nico Rosberg takes that position

2:00:15 > 2:00:21back. And Rubens Barrichello in the middle of that action. He obviously

2:00:21 > 2:00:31had a moment because he was over a blind -- over the line as he came

2:00:31 > 2:00:33

2:00:33 > 2:00:39over the hill, we will have to see if there was a reason for that.

2:00:39 > 2:00:48are great friends now heading down together. And Felipe Massa need to

2:00:48 > 2:00:57get past urgently. He is six seconds in front of us, if you need

2:00:58 > 2:01:03comedian soft, he is very ambitious -- you need and medium, a soft.

2:01:03 > 2:01:10Webber pits and Jenson Button moves into the lead of the Grand Prix.

2:01:10 > 2:01:16thought he would have put the option on -- I thought. Fernando

2:01:16 > 2:01:23Alonso setting the fastest lap of the race on the harder tyres. So

2:01:23 > 2:01:27maybe there is not such a big of set. This is Sebastian Vettel

2:01:27 > 2:01:34taking the lead back from Jenson Button having taken the pit stop

2:01:34 > 2:01:40and that will concern Jenson a lot that he does not have the pace up

2:01:40 > 2:01:43against drivers on much fresher tyres. And that is an alarm call

2:01:43 > 2:01:51for McLaren that if they are struggling that much compared to

2:01:51 > 2:01:57those on new tyres... For you will see a replay of this. -- and we

2:01:57 > 2:02:04will see. Timed to perfection across the DRS the zone -- the

2:02:04 > 2:02:11Diarra sown. And we get on board with Felipe Massa And this is him

2:02:11 > 2:02:16passing Nico Rosberg. And that is why it is so critical not to lose

2:02:16 > 2:02:24one-tenth of a second on any lap because if you pick and come out,

2:02:24 > 2:02:30that is what she could be faced with. -- picked. Michael Schumacher

2:02:30 > 2:02:36were shaping up and right behind him is the Renault -- was shaping

2:02:36 > 2:02:43up. Sebastian Vettel leads again, what will McLaren it do? They will

2:02:43 > 2:02:51have to pit him. And you have Fernando Alonso doing the fastest

2:02:51 > 2:02:57lap on the harder tyre. If they can push those to the end, we have 26

2:02:57 > 2:03:01degrees track temperature. They are putting soft tyres on him. Because

2:03:01 > 2:03:06of the different strategy, he had those, because he did not get

2:03:06 > 2:03:12through to qualifying three, he has new soft tyres. But will that bring

2:03:12 > 2:03:16him into contention? He is behind Sebastian Vettel. He will be at

2:03:16 > 2:03:22least 20 seconds behind Sebastien but he is in there for a podium

2:03:22 > 2:03:28place. It is a question of how much time he can find on these and will

2:03:28 > 2:03:33they stay with it? Will they give him 11 laps out of life pushing

2:03:33 > 2:03:43like crazy? And we watch Felipe Massa picked for the final time and

2:03:43 > 2:03:46

2:03:46 > 2:03:52he is going the same way as most of them. -- pit. Webber is flying out

2:03:52 > 2:03:58now. We are seeing sector time after sector time better and better.

2:03:58 > 2:04:08It is the third stop for tyres for Felipe Massa as he heads down. Did

2:04:08 > 2:04:08

2:04:08 > 2:04:13he not just picked before that? was a couple of laps before that.

2:04:13 > 2:04:20And he is trying to defend here. We are getting the news Felipe Massa

2:04:20 > 2:04:29had a puncture so he has had to come back in again. And that is

2:04:29 > 2:04:34down in 12th. And that is putting him 40 seconds down the road.

2:04:34 > 2:04:37pitted on 30 and 32 with that puncture and that has taken him out

2:04:37 > 2:04:43of the action. Be will be interesting to know if that is to

2:04:43 > 2:04:50do with the blistering -- it will be. It was a new set of tyres and

2:04:50 > 2:04:56it seemed he picked up a punk show. Felipe Massa pitted on lap 30. --

2:04:56 > 2:05:00picked up a pub showers. Mark Webber is harder than a map -- then

2:05:00 > 2:05:05Sebastian Vettel on the tyres and they are fragile and sensitive so

2:05:05 > 2:05:13it guarantees Webber will go to the end. It is ambitious for Sebastian

2:05:13 > 2:05:20Vettel to do the next few laps on one set of tyres but it is possible

2:05:20 > 2:05:27because he went so long on that middle section.

2:05:27 > 2:05:30Now we will watch a lap times because the top four have shuffled

2:05:30 > 2:05:37out with pit stops now and we will see how they are doing and how

2:05:37 > 2:05:45their cars are working on this track on these tyres. Webber is the

2:05:45 > 2:05:54man with the speed. And quite cautious for Vettel, he might want

2:05:54 > 2:06:01to conserve those a bit. 11 laps to go including this. That is Fernando

2:06:01 > 2:06:07Alonso in second, Webber inferred, still catching him behind Fernando

2:06:07 > 2:06:15Alonso. If you get Alonso, you are a second

2:06:15 > 2:06:25wicket in the middle sector. -- quicker. Red Bull is mighty in

2:06:25 > 2:06:33that middle part, etc. It is very much two different types of track.

2:06:33 > 2:06:43-- in that middle part of the track. Mercedes are in fifth and sixth

2:06:43 > 2:06:43

2:06:43 > 2:06:53place now. This is Michael Schumacher, but he still has enough

2:06:53 > 2:06:57

2:06:57 > 2:07:03speed to clear Force India. And having a good day on the grid today.

2:07:03 > 2:07:10And Vettel's lead is seven seconds now and he is going faster, but not

2:07:10 > 2:07:18as fast as Webber in third, 2.5 seconds behind them, much quicker

2:07:18 > 2:07:23than a one so. Jenson Button is 6.6 clear in fourth place. 16 seconds

2:07:23 > 2:07:32covers the top four and they have left the Mercedes behind now. It is

2:07:32 > 2:07:40a four horse race for the three steps of the podium. And that is

2:07:40 > 2:07:45Felipe Massa making his way back after that pit stop now.

2:07:45 > 2:07:51Unfortunately, that seems to happen a lot for Felipe Massa, and that

2:07:51 > 2:07:57has taken him out of contention. Red Bull, Ferrari, and Red Bull,

2:07:57 > 2:08:05McLaren, Mercedes, Mercedes, the top six. Michael Schumacher is

2:08:05 > 2:08:10going very well, isn't he? A good race, over 20 years since his debut.

2:08:10 > 2:08:17Looking back at Mark Webber catching Fernando Alonso, six

2:08:17 > 2:08:25seconds quicker on the last lap and I do not see how Fernando will

2:08:25 > 2:08:30maintain his position. Fernando Alonso is locking up in this lap.

2:08:30 > 2:08:34If he goes to pit, he will lose his position and if he does not, he

2:08:34 > 2:08:39will lose his position as I see it. Fernando Alonso could finish in

2:08:39 > 2:08:47fourth place here. I talked to Jenson about standing on that

2:08:48 > 2:08:52podium and he has got a chance, no doubt about it. Webber and Jenson

2:08:52 > 2:08:58Button catching Fernando Alonso very quickly. 14.7 seconds covers

2:08:58 > 2:09:03the top four, so really under pressure at the front. Probably

2:09:03 > 2:09:12saving pace until later, he needs to win a Grand Prix, Sebastian

2:09:12 > 2:09:20Vettel. Last time he won was back at the European Grand Prix, he did

2:09:20 > 2:09:27not win at Silverstone and in Valencia, did not win the Hungarian

2:09:27 > 2:09:31Grand Prix. Vettel wanting to get that winning streak back in action.

2:09:32 > 2:09:39Look how close Webber is now. Ferrari seems to have lost its pace

2:09:39 > 2:09:45on this harder tyre, they work much better with the soft option tyre.

2:09:45 > 2:09:50Less energy required in the corner but they are not making this tyre

2:09:50 > 2:09:55work. What does that tell us? That is why they struggled to qualify

2:09:55 > 2:09:59because they cannot heat up their tyres, they are kinder to the

2:09:59 > 2:10:04softer compounds so they look strong early on, and are not

2:10:04 > 2:10:08generating heat they need. These tyres are wearing four times less

2:10:08 > 2:10:14than the yellow marks of tyres we saw before. There is a big

2:10:14 > 2:10:24difference. So why not run the option tyre? Softer, more movement

2:10:24 > 2:10:24

2:10:25 > 2:10:34and temperature. He has got tyres left. Maybe we will get an engineer

2:10:34 > 2:10:42after the Grand Prix and ask them that. Fastest lap, Martin? -- will

2:10:42 > 2:10:47he passed this lap, Martin? He has a chance. He has already passed him

2:10:47 > 2:10:52earlier in the Grand Prix. And you are right, opens the gear wing, I

2:10:52 > 2:10:58do not think Fernando Alonso will fight that too hard -- will be a

2:10:58 > 2:11:04wing. He has not had the gripped estate with a Red Bull. A new

2:11:04 > 2:11:14second place man in Mark Webber, one and two 4 Red Bull. Sebastian

2:11:14 > 2:11:18

2:11:18 > 2:11:26Vettel leads over this man, Webber. Webber much, much quicker. And

2:11:26 > 2:11:30Fernando Alonso dips back into the slipstream. The Red Bull boys fully

2:11:30 > 2:11:34appreciating that and it is a question of, will we see, as we did

2:11:34 > 2:11:40at Silverstone, Mark Webber are starting to catch Sebastian Vettel

2:11:40 > 2:11:46again and closing him down in the final stages -- Mark Webber are

2:11:46 > 2:11:52starting. A lot of black dust coming off that Renault, he is

2:11:52 > 2:12:00munching through his brakes. They may have taken a gamble on smaller

2:12:00 > 2:12:05break ducks expecting cooler conditions -- brake. And they throw

2:12:05 > 2:12:10out carbon dust. They evaporate in front of your eyes and the brake

2:12:10 > 2:12:16pad goes through the desk and you go through whatever piece of

2:12:16 > 2:12:22scenery you I mean that at the time -- the disc. The benefit of running

2:12:23 > 2:12:30a smaller duct is you have less breakage of air so aerodynamically

2:12:31 > 2:12:36it is more efficient. We just need a good clean race. That was from

2:12:36 > 2:12:46Nico Rosberg. Michael Schumacher is coming to get your! That is the

2:12:46 > 2:12:54message. Was that jaws? I do not know, I am getting excited! These

2:12:54 > 2:13:01two are told, enjoy it and go for it but do not run into each other.

2:13:01 > 2:13:05Ted has news. Red Bull, you might see that gap close but you will not

2:13:05 > 2:13:11see overtaking because Red Bull want to protect this lead and this

2:13:11 > 2:13:15position, they have not had a want, two for a while. And Fernando

2:13:15 > 2:13:20Alonso, he had no choice. If you wanted to go for the soft tyre

2:13:20 > 2:13:24again, he would have had to make another stop according to the

2:13:25 > 2:13:31regulations. So he has not made that stop and is low on the hard

2:13:31 > 2:13:38tyres, so not a lot of choice. Round four in Turkey was the last

2:13:38 > 2:13:43one, two for Red Bull. So some time ago. Webber is catching Sebastian

2:13:43 > 2:13:51Vettel on the second lap as he did in Silverstone, although Fernando

2:13:51 > 2:13:57Alonso won at that race. Where has he pulled that at best sector out

2:13:57 > 2:14:06of? He has found some performance, could be the rubber dumbing-down on

2:14:06 > 2:14:13the racetrack. And we can see Felipe Massa here. And that is

2:14:13 > 2:14:19Pastor Maldonado. The cars are so low, but downforce pushes them hard

2:14:19 > 2:14:24into their suspension and Roberts - - and robbers and different devices

2:14:24 > 2:14:29they use, so they get very stiff at the end of the straight and start

2:14:29 > 2:14:35bouncing around. This is what I wanted to see, both on similar

2:14:35 > 2:14:43tyres and a couple of laps between them. Is he on the auction? Both on

2:14:43 > 2:14:53the same tyres so we have a real race here, it two be called cars

2:14:53 > 2:15:00

2:15:00 > 2:15:09and two different generations of Michael is on the faster of these

2:15:09 > 2:15:14tyres. Nico Rosberg was Supreme at defending earlier against faster

2:15:14 > 2:15:17cars. As Michael is that this time. Last year these two are connected

2:15:17 > 2:15:25twice at this grand prix. We know that Michael is very strong round

2:15:25 > 2:15:35their Indeed. He has just done the fastest first sector. He has

2:15:35 > 2:15:44

2:15:44 > 2:15:51rediscovered his no-show. -- his form. G one... Does that mean

2:15:51 > 2:15:56giving up? More fuel. Everybody has fresh engines. Button is 3.8

2:15:56 > 2:16:02seconds behind Alonso and five seconds to go, catching him

2:16:02 > 2:16:06relentlessly. This is the story of the Grand Prix. Can but income from

2:16:06 > 2:16:1113th on the grid and get himself onto the podium. Fernando Alonso

2:16:11 > 2:16:17has third place at the moment and Rosberg and Schumacher are still

2:16:17 > 2:16:26fighting over a 5th and 6th place. Michael Schumacher, at the six

2:16:27 > 2:16:33times winner of this grand prix, 92, 95, 96, 97, 2001 and 2002. He knows

2:16:33 > 2:16:42this very well. We know how good he is here, I certainly did when he

2:16:42 > 2:16:51was my team-mate. And there is Button. He has driven a very fine

2:16:51 > 2:16:55race. He will be satisfied with his work. He was maybe in the hunt for

2:16:55 > 2:17:00a slightly better position. Damaged front wing but the podium is

2:17:00 > 2:17:05definitely on the cars. He is one- tenth quicker than Alonso in that

2:17:05 > 2:17:09first sector. He can see him in his sights. I am sure that Fernando

2:17:09 > 2:17:15Alonso would not be able to do much defending against Jenson Button,

2:17:15 > 2:17:20his passing has been fantastic. Those yellow markings on his tyres,

2:17:20 > 2:17:25Fernando Alonso on the harder compound. The sector times... He

2:17:26 > 2:17:31has gained seven tenths on hen just on the downhill section alone. He

2:17:31 > 2:17:41will be just a little over one second behind as they start the

2:17:41 > 2:17:41

2:17:41 > 2:17:4641st lap. Vettel's lead is 6.4. We have Jarno Trulli and Kovaleinen,

2:17:46 > 2:17:52Lotus run and 15 and 16 and d'Ambrosio, the 23rd Belgian Grand

2:17:52 > 2:17:56Prix Formula One driver. I am sure you did not know that. And he is

2:17:56 > 2:18:06apparently ahead of Timo Glock. He had a drive-through penalty for

2:18:06 > 2:18:07

2:18:07 > 2:18:12causing an accident. Bruno Senna it up to 14th place now. We need you

2:18:12 > 2:18:20to see have some fuel with higher Ikea's and earlier left... -- saved

2:18:21 > 2:18:27some fuel. Is that a code to let him go? It could be, there is no

2:18:27 > 2:18:31real reason why there should be any difference in terms of the fuel.

2:18:31 > 2:18:37Perhaps he has been running in a slightly higher mode at the start

2:18:37 > 2:18:43of the race. He certainly has a faster pace. On top of Raidillon,

2:18:44 > 2:18:53Nico Rosberg would have to lift heavily through their. Michael is

2:18:54 > 2:18:55

2:18:55 > 2:19:00right up behind him again. And he thinks better of a desperate lunge.

2:19:00 > 2:19:06Nicol was running a much faster pace with the safety car. For

2:19:06 > 2:19:14Michael to make up that deficit, he is maybe unleashing some extra

2:19:14 > 2:19:17engine note. Barrichello, Kobayashi. That is the second contact with

2:19:17 > 2:19:22Kobayashi this afternoon. Barrichello goes straight back in

2:19:22 > 2:19:25for a new wing. That was over 12 days. I wonder why Rubens

2:19:25 > 2:19:32Barrichello thought, if I have damaged my front wing, I might as

2:19:32 > 2:19:36well take the new one whilst I am very near the entry to the pits.

2:19:36 > 2:19:46Despite the early stop by Sebastian Vettel, it looked like he was in

2:19:46 > 2:19:51the most trouble they're currently first and second. On lap 13 my son

2:19:51 > 2:19:55Lewis Hamilton and many Kobayashi touching at the top of the hill.

2:19:55 > 2:19:59And that but Hamilton out of the race and the safety car followed,

2:19:59 > 2:20:06which allowed Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel to pit without

2:20:06 > 2:20:10much cost. Rosberg still defends hard against Schumacher. This is

2:20:10 > 2:20:16bottom right on top of Alonso. Fernando Alonso again let's in

2:20:16 > 2:20:21easily around the outside so Button is onto the podium. Jensen Button,

2:20:21 > 2:20:27third, Fernando Alonso 4th and he has the pace to confident we pull

2:20:27 > 2:20:35away. Dejected, I am sure, Fernando Alonso, there. Look how far back he

2:20:35 > 2:20:40came from. But an, with so much more speed, just helps himself to a

2:20:40 > 2:20:44little bit of slipstream and that isn't aggressive, that is

2:20:44 > 2:20:49submissive from Fernando Alonso as Schumacher also gets a run on his

2:20:49 > 2:20:54team-mate around the outside, the DRS will be available and

2:20:54 > 2:20:59Schumacher are surely takes 5th place? He does indeed. Schumacher

2:20:59 > 2:21:08is down ahead. Key race changes, this is Sebastian Vettel, the

2:21:08 > 2:21:18leader, on lap 42. From Webber and Now Button. When we looked at the

2:21:18 > 2:21:19

2:21:19 > 2:21:24podium, we stood on the grid. He has come from 13th place. Somehow,

2:21:24 > 2:21:30Red Bull have managed their tyre problems as we watched what and

2:21:30 > 2:21:40steaming through the pack with some brutal overtaking. Inside, outside,

2:21:40 > 2:21:42

2:21:42 > 2:21:45any were teachers. -- anyway he chose. This will push Webber

2:21:45 > 2:21:52towards Sebastian Vettel. The Red Bull cannot relax now that Button

2:21:52 > 2:21:58has made that move. Vettel in the traffic, behind Jarno Trulli. He is

2:21:58 > 2:22:08coming up to lap 10. Will he be able to put the two Red Bull cars

2:22:08 > 2:22:08

2:22:08 > 2:22:18under pressure and stop their glory? Jensen Button has some

2:22:18 > 2:22:19

2:22:19 > 2:22:26traffic ahead of him. That also his progress down. Interesting. Webber

2:22:26 > 2:22:34has the five-second advantage, 1.5 laps, just over six miles left. So,

2:22:34 > 2:22:39it would surely see Button flecking into the picture in the background.

2:22:39 > 2:22:46Webber's engineer went on to the radio after that overtake to tell

2:22:46 > 2:22:50Mark Webber to keep the pace up and that Button was a threat. I'm

2:22:50 > 2:22:56thinking about Silverstone, he was told to hold station and the team

2:22:56 > 2:23:00bus explained by saying he would never do that again. Pastor

2:23:00 > 2:23:06Maldonado, 10th Test, seen by many as a bit of a hooligan yesterday

2:23:06 > 2:23:16afternoon after qualifying but he has driven very well today, 21st on

2:23:16 > 2:23:16

2:23:16 > 2:23:24the grid and 10th place now. Fernando Alonso out braking himself.

2:23:24 > 2:23:30Into the final lap. Fernando Alonso and then the lap runners,

2:23:30 > 2:23:37Kovaleinen, 15th, and Barrichello, 16. There is a race going on there.

2:23:37 > 2:23:41Barrichello with this fresher tyres. We are watching Bruno Senna and

2:23:41 > 2:23:49maybe Kobayashi struggling towards the end of the Grand Prix. The

2:23:49 > 2:23:54temperature up to 26 degrees. We have not seen any rain, Schumacher

2:23:54 > 2:24:00maintains position ahead of Nico Rosberg as he enters a last lap.

2:24:00 > 2:24:05Everybody up until Bruno Senna in 13th has been lapped. That is quite

2:24:05 > 2:24:14unusual plus the safety car shunted them back together again after lap

2:24:14 > 2:24:2113. Michael Schumacher, P5, very good driving from last on the grid.

2:24:21 > 2:24:29He kept his tyres intact. Driver of the day? It looks like blistering

2:24:29 > 2:24:34on the rear tyre of his option tyres. In terms of the gains of the

2:24:34 > 2:24:40day, you have to give Michael Schumacher that, his 200 grand prix.

2:24:40 > 2:24:43Jensen Button, also has not made it quite so many places but he has

2:24:43 > 2:24:50been the master and passing. A mixture of Jensen Button and

2:24:50 > 2:24:54Michael Schumacher. Good stuff. And great driving from Sebastian Vettel.

2:24:54 > 2:24:58The World Championship leader, the reigning world champion. Taking

2:24:58 > 2:25:04victory here at the Belgian Grand Prix. Whatever they threw at him,

2:25:04 > 2:25:08he could handle it. The tyres, safety car has, Mark Webber comes

2:25:08 > 2:25:14home in a very strong second and what a brilliant try from Jensen

2:25:14 > 2:25:18Button, on the podium, from 13th on the grid, all sorts of drama, he

2:25:18 > 2:25:23steered clear. Some brilliant overtaking. Fernando Alonso would

2:25:23 > 2:25:28not give up and brought the car home in 4th place. It will be

2:25:28 > 2:25:33Michael Schumacher or who is top dog at Mercedes Benz today. He

2:25:33 > 2:25:38beats the young charger, Nico Rosberg. It is when number 17 for

2:25:38 > 2:25:42Sebastian Vettel. Red Bull had uncovered yet again. He would love

2:25:42 > 2:25:46to have seen Lewis Hamilton. To see what he could have done this

2:25:46 > 2:25:55afternoon without doubt contact at the top of the hill. And Schumacher

2:25:55 > 2:26:01is 5th, then Rosberg, Adrian Sutil, yet more points for forced India.

2:26:01 > 2:26:07Vitaly Petrov. Felipe Massa in 9th place and Maldonado. 10th place for

2:26:07 > 2:26:16Williams. Providing they get over the line. Felipe Massa has passed

2:26:16 > 2:26:26him, he doesn't to get to us. Were his Vitaly Petrov? -- he now gets

2:26:26 > 2:26:26

2:26:26 > 2:26:369th place. Maldonado, Paul di Resta, just outside the points. Kobayashi

2:26:36 > 2:26:37

2:26:37 > 2:26:47in Twelfth place. And Bruno Senna, 13. Red Bulls celebrate another

2:26:47 > 2:26:47

2:26:47 > 2:26:53victory. It is an emotional victory, there was a lot of pressure on them

2:26:53 > 2:26:57before this. What was the right thing to do regarding the tyres?

2:26:57 > 2:27:03Obviously they could not change them with the geometry of the car.

2:27:03 > 2:27:12Vitaly Petrov parks outside the pit lane. He has either run out of fuel

2:27:12 > 2:27:22or brakes. Sebastian Vettel. Leads the World Championship, the 259

2:27:22 > 2:27:35

2:27:35 > 2:27:45points to Mark Webber with 167. Amazingly, it remained with five

2:27:45 > 2:27:59

2:27:59 > 2:28:06Alguersuari, getting tagged in the first corner by Sergio Perez. After

2:28:06 > 2:28:13that stunning qualifying for Toro Rosso. No reward, sadly. How were

2:28:13 > 2:28:18they feel about that? He will be frustrated. He will believe he was

2:28:18 > 2:28:23able to put that back into second place. The second happiest man on

2:28:23 > 2:28:33the podium. Sebastian Vettel. Some frustration before the grand prix.

2:28:33 > 2:28:36

2:28:36 > 2:28:45He picked it up on the grid. That was interesting. I am relieved to

2:28:45 > 2:28:50see you boys! I hope Adrian Sutil knew he was the most stressed about

2:28:50 > 2:28:54the inability to put those tyres on a the start of the race. He put a

2:28:54 > 2:29:00lot of emotion into this. We did not see any tyres blowing up, they

2:29:00 > 2:29:10do? But that I was looking for many. You hear lots about it but we did

2:29:10 > 2:29:42

2:29:42 > 2:29:48been particularly successful for Sebastian Vettel, third place is

2:29:48 > 2:29:58his best result here. He ran into Jenson Button badly here last gear

2:29:58 > 2:29:58

2:29:58 > 2:32:02Apology for the loss of subtitles for 142 seconds

2:32:02 > 2:32:12and he is enjoying that top step. - next week, David --! -- that will

2:32:12 > 2:32:20be. And David Hines sadly lost his battle against cancer this morning.

2:32:20 > 2:32:25That will be in his honour. that is a beautiful trophy,

2:32:25 > 2:32:30beautiful race track, impressive drive. Everybody on the podium can

2:32:30 > 2:32:40be satisfied with that. And he is the most relieved man, he was

2:32:40 > 2:32:50

2:32:50 > 2:32:53missed angry this morning and now is Mr successful! -- Mr Angry! And

2:32:53 > 2:32:57Mark Webber having to defer to Sebastian Vettel but I think he

2:32:57 > 2:33:03will be relieved to be second in the race after that start, although

2:33:03 > 2:33:09he will not be thrilled. After the mistake yesterday between Jenson

2:33:09 > 2:33:16and his team, where he backed off, he certainly made up for it today!

2:33:16 > 2:33:21And Jessica, his girlfriend, celebrates with him. And the

2:33:21 > 2:33:24champagne is flowing. Red Bull are first and second again. Jenson

2:33:24 > 2:33:30Button came through the field to give them the best challenge that

2:33:30 > 2:33:34he could. But on the day, they had too much pace as the Ferraris faded

2:33:34 > 2:33:39away and we did not get to find out just what Lewis Hamilton could have

2:33:39 > 2:33:44done it at the front of the field. We have had a thoroughly

2:33:44 > 2:33:54fascinating Belgian Grand Prix and I enjoyed it very much, I hope you

2:33:54 > 2:34:00did. We look forward to talking to you in the after a show.

2:34:00 > 2:34:04You got your money's worth during the podium celebrations, VAT was a

2:34:04 > 2:34:09long national anthem. It was incredible from start to finish,

2:34:09 > 2:34:14Eddie, once again, Spa does not disappoint, does it?

2:34:14 > 2:34:17I tried to figure out who was driver of the day and there were

2:34:17 > 2:34:22seven or eight who fit into that category and it would be well

2:34:22 > 2:34:25deserved by each of them. It was fabulous, a shame we did not see

2:34:25 > 2:34:32Lewis get in among everybody because he would have made it much

2:34:32 > 2:34:37more interesting. A fabulous place and they enjoyed or have it. -- I

2:34:37 > 2:34:42enjoyed. That man with his hands in the air, Sebastian Vettel, it will

2:34:42 > 2:34:47be refreshed after not having a race for a month. But she could

2:34:47 > 2:34:52argue Jenson Button is the in form driver in Formula One -- you could

2:34:52 > 2:34:57argue. The way Jenson was able to move the

2:34:57 > 2:35:01car around, his passing moves for a staggering. I thought he could not

2:35:01 > 2:35:11get away with it and each time he would squeeze out something. So

2:35:11 > 2:35:17

2:35:17 > 2:35:23full marks to him and probably just Another bad start at for Webber and

2:35:23 > 2:35:27if he had sorted that out, he could have one of the race. A you could

2:35:27 > 2:35:32have said Sebastian Vettel had an average race but he won it and the

2:35:32 > 2:35:38best way to win it is in the slowest possible way. Mark Webber,

2:35:38 > 2:35:44when he got it together, was again superb. We have already talked

2:35:44 > 2:35:48about it today, but Webber could have been that as easy five Jenson.

2:35:48 > 2:35:55We were in the McLaren motor home and it was so exciting particularly

2:35:55 > 2:36:00after what had happened to Lewis. So it was be bittersweet situation

2:36:00 > 2:36:05for McLaren. Martin joins us from the team. We have said this a few

2:36:05 > 2:36:10times this season, if one of your drivers does brilliantly, the other

2:36:10 > 2:36:17struggles. We have seen Lewis do well and Jenson struggle, and it

2:36:17 > 2:36:23was the other way or -- the other way around. Frustration for Lewis.

2:36:23 > 2:36:27Jenson was the driver of the day. Bad qualifying and if he was close

2:36:27 > 2:36:32to the front, he would have been a contender. Fantastic, losing the

2:36:32 > 2:36:37front wing, getting back to 19th place, hunting down the driver's.

2:36:37 > 2:36:42It seems to be his speciality this season. He was doing it in the dry

2:36:42 > 2:36:45and people say he cannot do that, but he did it today, so fantastic.

2:36:45 > 2:36:50A bit of disappointment of what might have been but we should

2:36:50 > 2:36:57really enjoyed that drive, it was a great show and fantastic day.

2:36:57 > 2:37:00Perhaps the secret, we could ask, maybe it is better that Jenson

2:37:00 > 2:37:06Button qualifies outside the top 10 then he has better tyres and can

2:37:06 > 2:37:10get on with it. That is one strategy but week would rather he

2:37:11 > 2:37:16was at the front. He has struggled all season in qualifying but

2:37:16 > 2:37:23brilliant during the race. There is plenty of racing left this season

2:37:23 > 2:37:27and you have got to congratulate servicemen -- asked -- Adrian and

2:37:27 > 2:37:31the others, it was a great Championship. It is mathematically

2:37:31 > 2:37:36possible and we have got to carry on, but at least with Jenson we

2:37:36 > 2:37:41could generate the pace. Lewis was a muddy today but we will keep

2:37:41 > 2:37:47pushing as we always will. Initially at the beginning of the

2:37:47 > 2:37:50race we fought, the Ferraris, look at this, they could be a serious

2:37:50 > 2:37:56possibility to win, but you steam rolled past them, what is the

2:37:56 > 2:38:01connection? I wish I knew the answer! At the beginning, we

2:38:01 > 2:38:09struggled to get the tyres and the track was a bit greener. It came

2:38:09 > 2:38:15towards us today and we were very strong. Jenson on the second two

2:38:16 > 2:38:21set of tyres was very quick. I think if we had been up there, we

2:38:21 > 2:38:25could have done a better job. It was tough and Lewis today and tough

2:38:25 > 2:38:32we had to get Jenson from 19th place up onto the podium, but it

2:38:32 > 2:38:36has been a great show. And to do it in the dry it demonstrates he does

2:38:36 > 2:38:44not need it to be wet. It was a brilliant race, I am perplexed by

2:38:44 > 2:38:49the fans are cheering Eddie's name! Not half as perplexed as meet!

2:38:49 > 2:38:52Let's chat about Lewis Hamilton. If we can watch through this and you

2:38:52 > 2:39:02can give us your take on whose responsibility it was and how it

2:39:02 > 2:39:05

2:39:05 > 2:39:11across to the racing line and he was hit hard from behind and it was

2:39:11 > 2:39:17a big impact. The stewards have said it is a racing incident, and

2:39:17 > 2:39:21would not see it quite that way. How would you see it? I would see

2:39:21 > 2:39:25it as Kamui Kobayashi needs to be looked at to hit someone so hard in

2:39:25 > 2:39:31that situation, but it does not matter what I think. But at no

2:39:31 > 2:39:36stage is he behind him. He was and he came alongside him. I think you

2:39:36 > 2:39:41need to look at that again because I see it differently to hip -- to

2:39:41 > 2:39:46use. I think Lewis moved to his left. That is what you do it at

2:39:46 > 2:39:50that part of the track. Only if no- one is beside you. No driver is

2:39:50 > 2:39:55there and if you are behind, you have the responsibility to miss the

2:39:55 > 2:40:04car in front. You see it one way and I see it another! Please look

2:40:04 > 2:40:09at it again. He hit the gear wheel quite hard. That means he can see a

2:40:09 > 2:40:14car in front and the onus is on you to avoid hitting the back wheel.

2:40:14 > 2:40:21But he was on the grass, how can it driver go on the grass to damage

2:40:21 > 2:40:25his own possible wife? When you are trying to overtake someone, you

2:40:25 > 2:40:30make a judgment call and if you see they are on a racing line and a

2:40:30 > 2:40:37mushy back out you on the grass, you are back out, that is what

2:40:37 > 2:40:44racing drivers do, Eddie. I do not see it as clear cut as you. I could

2:40:44 > 2:40:49enjoy it all afternoon. You two will agree to disagree. Unlucky on

2:40:49 > 2:40:53Lewis and well done it with Jenson who is in a press conference. Let's

2:40:53 > 2:41:01get away from the Eddie Jordan fans and see what the drivers of

2:41:01 > 2:41:06thinking after a compelling Grand Congratulations on your first

2:41:06 > 2:41:10Belgian Grand Prix victory, a comfortable victory, but how much

2:41:11 > 2:41:15of a concern was that how long you could make the soft tyre last?

2:41:15 > 2:41:19lot of concerns going into the race after the damage on the tyres from

2:41:19 > 2:41:23qualifying so we were not quite sure and we took a lot of risk. We

2:41:23 > 2:41:27had reason to be confident it should be all right but you never

2:41:27 > 2:41:32really know and there is no-one of walking up and down giving you a

2:41:32 > 2:41:38guarantee. So we did not feel too comfortable and both of us stopped

2:41:38 > 2:41:44fairly early right at the beginning of the race. And the main target

2:41:44 > 2:41:49obviously was to see how the tyres feel after a couple of laps and to

2:41:49 > 2:41:52go from there, really. Not thinking too much about the outcome. But

2:41:52 > 2:41:56surprisingly, the pace was very good in the race and I was feeling

2:41:56 > 2:42:01very comfortable and without too much effort in the beginning, I was

2:42:01 > 2:42:08able to keep up with the guys and get back in the lead. And after the

2:42:08 > 2:42:12safety car, it was crucial to get back with Fernando and pass him and

2:42:12 > 2:42:17build a gap, which made it more comfortable towards the end of the

2:42:17 > 2:42:22race. But it was more management than usual. But I have to say the

2:42:22 > 2:42:27car worked brilliantly and I think compared to previous years, we were

2:42:27 > 2:42:32very competitive. So I am very, very happy with the result. And

2:42:32 > 2:42:37very happy with the race. How we managed the tyres in particular, so

2:42:37 > 2:42:42we need to learn from that. And head down to the next race.

2:42:42 > 2:42:50Mark, congratulations, a second place. Great recovery after a slow

2:42:50 > 2:42:56getaway from the start. The start was shocking. Sebastian also had a

2:42:57 > 2:43:04close call so that was very disappointing, a disappointing way

2:43:04 > 2:43:09of starting the Grand Prix. The tyres were pretty badly damaged

2:43:09 > 2:43:15after qualifying so we needed to get rid of those quite early. When

2:43:15 > 2:43:19I was back in the pack, I saw Sergio Perez -- I saw Bruno Senna

2:43:19 > 2:43:27smashing each other up and so it was important to get away from that

2:43:27 > 2:43:34with everything intact. So we made a stop, I had to stay with Fernando

2:43:34 > 2:43:40and had a very long stint, and the tyre was completely finished at the

2:43:40 > 2:43:47end. That gave us track position back. We had a mess up on the radio,

2:43:47 > 2:43:51I was supposed to pit when Sebastian did. I kept asking, do

2:43:51 > 2:43:57you want me to stop? I heard nothing on the radio. I stayed out

2:43:57 > 2:44:01and so did Fernando, so a bit of confusion. But overall, the way the

2:44:01 > 2:44:11team handled problems yesterday and today, a credit to Adrian and

2:44:11 > 2:44:11

2:44:11 > 2:44:15everybody on the floor, it was not an easy grand prix for those guys.

2:44:15 > 2:44:20And it was reasonably sensitive for them. We got a good result in the

2:44:20 > 2:44:30end. We would have loved to have won the Grand Prix, but still

2:44:30 > 2:44:30

2:44:30 > 2:44:35enjoyed the race and got a good Talk us through your dramatic end,

2:44:35 > 2:44:41Jensen Button? If I said in 13th place, it would have been easier to

2:44:41 > 2:44:46challenge these guys at it was mayhem, turn one was caused by the

2:44:46 > 2:44:55cars in front having a poor start and after turn No. 1, Paul di Resta

2:44:55 > 2:45:00hit my rear wing, we made contact. Half of that was gone. Then driving

2:45:00 > 2:45:06into Eau Rouge, somebody's front wing came off and went through mind.

2:45:06 > 2:45:10And took the winger off, which was scary and then I was struggling

2:45:10 > 2:45:15with the guys, the front wing was damaged and they said keep going.

2:45:15 > 2:45:19We went to that number five and change it. Put on the option tyres

2:45:19 > 2:45:25and did the rest of the race on the option. Lots of good overtaking and

2:45:25 > 2:45:34I enjoyed that to do. But you are always going to say, what could

2:45:34 > 2:45:40have been? But all in all, it's a good finish to be on the podium.

2:45:40 > 2:45:48Last year we did not finish. problems driving into anyone. Mark

2:45:48 > 2:45:56touched on what a difficult race was to make the strategy. Did the

2:45:56 > 2:46:00safety car, out for you at the right time? If yes and No.

2:46:00 > 2:46:05Obviously, we could stop and not lose too much but it was seven

2:46:05 > 2:46:12seconds in the lead so we lost that lead. We lost that gap. I don't

2:46:12 > 2:46:15think it made a big difference in the end. Fortunately, with the new

2:46:15 > 2:46:21regulations, there are very few possibilities that someone gets a

2:46:21 > 2:46:27big advantage at all in all, I agree with Jensen, it is good to

2:46:27 > 2:46:34finish the race and not to crash this year. When I came close to him,

2:46:34 > 2:46:38I was going to pass them on the long straight, so just to make sure.

2:46:39 > 2:46:47But all in all it was very fond. Plenty of overtaking due to the

2:46:47 > 2:46:53strategies we both had. But the car was fantastic and the pace was good.

2:46:53 > 2:46:57That is when you're setting up here. Congratulations to Sebastian Vettel,

2:46:57 > 2:47:00back to the front for the first time since June. Winning the

2:47:00 > 2:47:10Belgian Grand Prix and his team- mate, after that dreadful start,

2:47:10 > 2:47:12

2:47:12 > 2:47:18place and finished in 5th, that was a great drive. Vitaly Petrov and

2:47:18 > 2:47:22Pastor Maldonado. Paul di Resta had to make some stops, finishing in 11.

2:47:22 > 2:47:30Just outside the points. We will look at the collision with Bruno

2:47:30 > 2:47:34Senna. He finished in 13. The you're about to see the name of

2:47:34 > 2:47:40Lewis Hamilton on your screen, huge frustration. We will look at that

2:47:40 > 2:47:44incident again. Along with Sebastien Buemi and Alguersuari,

2:47:44 > 2:47:48they did not finish. Real frustration for Toro Rosso, they

2:47:48 > 2:47:55were set for no very good race today. This is what it means for

2:47:55 > 2:48:00the championship. 175 points left this season. The gap from Sebastian

2:48:00 > 2:48:05Vettel is 92. The boy is in command and you can see who has been rising

2:48:05 > 2:48:08and falling. It was Hamilton in 5th place, behind Fernando Alonso and

2:48:08 > 2:48:12Jenson Button and Michael Schumacher leaping up a couple of

2:48:12 > 2:48:18places but as for the constructors... Pretty much it's a

2:48:18 > 2:48:26foregone conclusion. 131 points, McLaren behind Red Bull and they

2:48:26 > 2:48:30would love to defend the driving championship as well, back to back.

2:48:30 > 2:48:35David, it was a different race for the men at the front, Mark and

2:48:35 > 2:48:39Jensen fighting with various issues and Sebastian, just that cool head?

2:48:39 > 2:48:44Not getting involved in any of the silly games on the track? Great

2:48:44 > 2:48:47driving from all three? There was so much uncertainty as to what this

2:48:47 > 2:48:52tyre blistering would mean, running out on the racetrack, we saw

2:48:52 > 2:48:57Sebastian, quite animated before the start, taking the decision with

2:48:57 > 2:49:01Mark to bring him in earlier, and after that, they could manage the

2:49:01 > 2:49:05tyre situation and everyone was struggling with the district. But

2:49:05 > 2:49:09the different fortunes of the teams, swings and roundabouts, early doors

2:49:09 > 2:49:14off when the lap times were being traded and in the end, Sebastian

2:49:14 > 2:49:19Vettel once again reigned supreme. The interesting thing is Sebastian

2:49:19 > 2:49:23Vettel took full advantage of the safety car. He made that tyre

2:49:23 > 2:49:26choice and it be that looks so easy, it was a very cool, calculating

2:49:26 > 2:49:35thing and he put himself in a position that they all had to catch

2:49:35 > 2:49:42him. When you hold that position and its kind of a daunting prospect.

2:49:42 > 2:49:45Cool-headed this. He did brilliant. It was an incredible race for

2:49:45 > 2:49:49Sebastien, it is so difficult to pick the driver of the day. It was

2:49:49 > 2:49:53hard to predict what would happen, you guys were shocked that

2:49:53 > 2:49:57Sebastien was putting on the softer tyres but at the very start,

2:49:57 > 2:50:03there's always something that's happening at the front corner. Ask

2:50:03 > 2:50:07David from 25 years ago, but what an awful start from Mark Webber and

2:50:07 > 2:50:14great from the Nico Rosberg? Yes, Mercedes getting that start nicely.

2:50:14 > 2:50:18And the bigger surprise, the end of the next street, after Eau Rouge,

2:50:18 > 2:50:26Nico Rosberg taking the lead. I'm sure that put a smile on many faces

2:50:26 > 2:50:31back and stood guard. -- in Stuttgart. He was looking in

2:50:31 > 2:50:36command at the stage. What is happening at the moment that

2:50:36 > 2:50:45Mercedes and Ferrari get halfway through and speed seems to

2:50:45 > 2:50:50evaporate? It is just not there. Do you know anything? You can see Mark

2:50:50 > 2:50:59Webber, stalling, by the time he correct and that, he was swamped.

2:50:59 > 2:51:03They're going off the grid at 160 kilos of fuel. In contrast to

2:51:03 > 2:51:07qualifying, four-tenths of a second for every 10 kilos and at this

2:51:07 > 2:51:12stage, for Eric could look strong and as a fuel burns off, you expect

2:51:12 > 2:51:19the performance to improve. Is that drivers being caught out by the

2:51:19 > 2:51:23weight of the cars? Yes. That and also on board, you can hear it all

2:51:23 > 2:51:31kicking in. This is the first time they have gone with full tax on a

2:51:31 > 2:51:35dry track into turnover one. And we can see Bruno Senna, there...

2:51:35 > 2:51:45qualifying yesterday, qualifying in second place, the first time he has

2:51:45 > 2:51:51been full of the season. How easy that -- how easy is it? In the end

2:51:51 > 2:51:57he gets caught out, it is easy to do. It looks like he has not been

2:51:57 > 2:52:02pricking at all! He had his engineer reminding him to try to be

2:52:02 > 2:52:07careful in touch her number one and also down into here. Jensen Button,

2:52:07 > 2:52:09threading his way through. True in the conference, he said that

2:52:09 > 2:52:18someone's front wing came off and he was driving around with the

2:52:18 > 2:52:22broken car. And there it goes. lucky it was just his wing mirror.

2:52:23 > 2:52:27We can look at that in slow-motion. He was lucky that did not go

2:52:27 > 2:52:31straight into the cockpit. That when -- that is what happens when

2:52:31 > 2:52:35people get over-excited. One man who avoided too many problems was

2:52:35 > 2:52:38Paul di Resta. It has been a difficult weekend. Yesterday,

2:52:38 > 2:52:42slipping up because of misinformation from the team and

2:52:42 > 2:52:48then topping that off, one place away from picking up points, which

2:52:48 > 2:52:50would have cheered you up. How do you assess the weekend? Quite

2:52:50 > 2:52:56frustrated to come here with ambitions and to score a good

2:52:56 > 2:52:59points. The pack is normally very strong here but unfortunately when

2:52:59 > 2:53:05you qualify that far back, you're into the next and then to turn

2:53:05 > 2:53:08number one, Timo Glock was very ambitious, he damaged my rear

2:53:09 > 2:53:13suspension, the sidepod and the front wing. And from there on it

2:53:13 > 2:53:17was just a very long race with lots of understeer. The team said it was

2:53:17 > 2:53:21a decision to change the front nose or just carry on. There was not

2:53:21 > 2:53:26much you could do. Car and you describe how different the car

2:53:26 > 2:53:33feels when you are going off the grid with a full tank verses the

2:53:33 > 2:53:37colt braking effect? There are only about 500 degrees when you hit the

2:53:37 > 2:53:42brake. How much of a margin do you leave? You have to leave a

2:53:42 > 2:53:47reasonable margin, but the thing is nobody has driven with high fuel,

2:53:47 > 2:53:51no dry runs, so on Friday you would normally have an IDF but it does

2:53:51 > 2:53:58depend on the Kers system, how much that pulls you back but as you say,

2:53:58 > 2:54:05it's all about the brake to picture. What you mean about the Kers

2:54:05 > 2:54:10charge? It is charging. If teams choose to have it charging under

2:54:10 > 2:54:15the brake into the first corner... We normally run with the charge at

2:54:15 > 2:54:20that point. It's just another thing to put into the equation and the

2:54:20 > 2:54:28talk lapping is set, the locking, so you have to predetermine what

2:54:28 > 2:54:32you want. As of when you leave the start-finish line. Let's find out

2:54:32 > 2:54:38how hard it is, Bruno Senna can join us. You got to know a few of

2:54:38 > 2:54:42the other cars! We were discussing how difficult it is to go in with

2:54:42 > 2:54:49full fuel on the car, you have not driven that in race mode like that

2:54:49 > 2:54:53this season. Is that what courtyard? I did not do the first

2:54:53 > 2:55:01corner with high fuel ever. Unfortunately, I misjudged the

2:55:01 > 2:55:11braking area. That was that. No way to avoid that. I am very sorry

2:55:11 > 2:55:15about that. Fortunately, I could continue racing. But I think now

2:55:15 > 2:55:20that I have it under the belt, I have better reason to look forward

2:55:20 > 2:55:23to. Do you think that because you qualifying was so good, it puts you

2:55:24 > 2:55:27either under more pressure or in a position where you normally would

2:55:27 > 2:55:34not have been and if you qualify further back you might have had a

2:55:34 > 2:55:40better chance into the first corner? I think he was just this

2:55:40 > 2:55:44judgment and a lack of doing this for 11 races. It was hard to do it.

2:55:44 > 2:55:51I should have been more careful. But this is racing and I wanted to

2:55:51 > 2:55:55race. I am here to race. And get position. Can you feel for how

2:55:55 > 2:55:59difficult it must be for Bruno Senna to step into the car mid-

2:55:59 > 2:56:03season and be at the pace? It's like coming into a football match

2:56:03 > 2:56:09at half-time and expecting to be in tune? It's not easy? No, and this

2:56:09 > 2:56:13weekend has not been easy, you can say that it would have been

2:56:13 > 2:56:17different had we more support Chris's, passing each other, and

2:56:17 > 2:56:20has been a very difficult weekend to judge. But the conditions are

2:56:20 > 2:56:24what they are and it's the same for everybody. If it's good fun to

2:56:24 > 2:56:29watch. I would like to ask Paul, there was a moment when you are

2:56:29 > 2:56:33running very strong and you delayed the tyre change and the pit stop.

2:56:33 > 2:56:39Why did you do that? Towards the end of the third stint? If before

2:56:39 > 2:56:43that. You set out to long, in my opinion? The most unfortunate thing

2:56:43 > 2:56:46was we had confirmed to come into the pits just as Lewis Hamilton

2:56:46 > 2:56:50crashed at the top of the hill. Unfortunately, it goes to the

2:56:50 > 2:56:54leading car, they get the decision to take when they want to stop and

2:56:55 > 2:56:57we had to stay out for another lap and the last three places. That is

2:56:58 > 2:57:05clearly what I was talking about because I thought you were looking

2:57:05 > 2:57:09like a top-ten finish. Back racing again. It's what you want to do?

2:57:09 > 2:57:14Absolutely, the pace was pretty good. I had a great experience with

2:57:14 > 2:57:20those tyres. I now know what to do with the team. And I am looking

2:57:20 > 2:57:23forward to driving in Monza. Hopefully with easier conditions.

2:57:23 > 2:57:27Congratulates his Ford getting to drive and better luck next time but

2:57:27 > 2:57:31if you keep qualifying like that, you'll be fine. Yes, you just need

2:57:31 > 2:57:36some luck and you'll be back into the points. Thank you for joining

2:57:36 > 2:57:41us. I guess what will happen is eventually one of the guys will

2:57:41 > 2:57:45manage to give the microphone to Pastor Maldonado. In fact, he is

2:57:45 > 2:57:48just behind me and he had a very dramatic weekend,, together with

2:57:48 > 2:57:54Lewis Hamilton yesterday and he then had a very solid race of the

2:57:54 > 2:58:00back of that today. Well done. It was a mindset going into this. Did

2:58:00 > 2:58:05you feel aggrieved having to start in 21st place? For sure. It was

2:58:05 > 2:58:13more difficult. To start from the back. Especially after starting

2:58:13 > 2:58:17after that first corner, it was so difficult with my front wheels. I

2:58:17 > 2:58:22had a very consistent race. Very intelligent. The Williams guys did

2:58:22 > 2:58:27a very good job and I am happy. I felt the car was very consistent

2:58:27 > 2:58:33during the race, I am very happy for that. I think we are improving,

2:58:33 > 2:58:39we're getting strong. I am happy, even for my country. I am sure

2:58:39 > 2:58:44they're very happy. Let's go back to tomorrow. Talk us through the

2:58:44 > 2:58:50incident with Lewis Hamilton. Did you perhaps both get over-excited

2:58:50 > 2:58:55and did you perhaps deserve some telling off? Maybe we both made

2:58:55 > 2:59:03mistakes yesterday. And that was disappointing because only I got

2:59:03 > 2:59:08the penalty. But him. Anyway, that is racing, we need to look forward.

2:59:08 > 2:59:13That has passed and the only bad thing is he did the same today. I

2:59:13 > 2:59:17think he needs to be more focused on his race and not to do that.

2:59:17 > 2:59:27think is incident today was similar to the incident with you that put

2:59:27 > 2:59:29

2:59:29 > 2:59:35him out of the race? Yes. Martin and he discounted it. We

2:59:35 > 2:59:41will have a private chat later. I'm not sure I disagree with you.

2:59:41 > 2:59:44you, you for stepping aside, you make a better door than a window.

2:59:44 > 2:59:47Well done, I was critical of you yesterday. Because it looked that

2:59:47 > 2:59:52you were trying to make some statement to Lewis Hamilton and he

2:59:52 > 2:59:57was trying to make some statement to you. My advice would be you do

2:59:57 > 3:00:03that face to face and not using your car. Do you think there is any

3:00:03 > 3:00:09ce dense in that. It didn't look like you were just driving back?

3:00:09 > 3:00:15think for sure we both slowed down after turn one, but then we lose

3:00:15 > 3:00:20the concentration and you know? We were fighting. It was a bad thing.

3:00:20 > 3:00:27But that is racing. That is racing. That is Formula One. We need to

3:00:27 > 3:00:33look forward and that is past. Happy for the point today. So I

3:00:33 > 3:00:40think Lewis is a talented driver. A very good friend. So we need to be

3:00:40 > 3:00:43more focused and respect more each self. Well done. You deserved the

3:00:43 > 3:00:48point today. Good to see the Williams picking up points, we have

3:00:48 > 3:00:54a lot of Williams fans back in the UK, you know that. For sure. Happy

3:00:54 > 3:00:58for thafrplt He did well to put Eigg from yesterday -- he did well

3:00:58 > 3:01:08to put everything from yesterday. And Michael Schumacher, let's lack

3:01:08 > 3:01:12

3:01:12 > 3:01:17at his starts. He has aced starts all season. DAVID COULTHARD: Yes

3:01:17 > 3:01:23nice and steady. Another great start. He was up to 15th by the end

3:01:23 > 3:01:31of the first lap. You can see avoiding the debris in the run down

3:01:31 > 3:01:35to Eau Rouge. Michael Schumacher last night was more mellow. I think

3:01:35 > 3:01:40he is becoming really at ease with himself. He is enjoying his racing.

3:01:40 > 3:01:44Something we haven't, well not saying we haven't seen foirt 20

3:01:44 > 3:01:47years, but we see a different kind of Michael Schumacher. He did a

3:01:47 > 3:01:51first class race. Probably one of his best this season. Well done

3:01:51 > 3:01:55Michael Schumacher. Started at the back. Finished up fifth. He knows

3:01:55 > 3:02:01what it takes to win here. He has won here on six occasions. Did this

3:02:01 > 3:02:06feel as good as that? Let's find out. He is with with Lee.

3:02:06 > 3:02:11should be smiling that was a great drive. Yes at least something

3:02:11 > 3:02:17worked out this weekend. It was an exciting race, a lot of bits and

3:02:17 > 3:02:22pieces flying at the first corner. So lucky I wasn't in the middle of

3:02:22 > 3:02:27that and I was able to avoid it and we had a great strategy, the boys

3:02:27 > 3:02:33did a great job and so, well you know, happy about the result.

3:02:33 > 3:02:38hunting down your team mate at the end. It was a great battle? Yes I

3:02:38 > 3:02:41was on the softer tyres compared to him. That gave me the edge and the

3:02:41 > 3:02:49possibility to overtake. In equal condition, that wouldn't have been

3:02:49 > 3:02:55possible. But we took the risk to take the hard tyres. Drivers aren't

3:02:55 > 3:03:00always the most sentimental, but how are you feeling on this

3:03:00 > 3:03:04anniversary on the Spa circuit that you love? I feel happy. It is a

3:03:04 > 3:03:09special day and a special weekend. Didn't start too well yesterday

3:03:09 > 3:03:14with the qualifying and luckively finished great. I had a great

3:03:14 > 3:03:17feeling this morning. My wife being here and supporting me and she sort

3:03:17 > 3:03:25of mentioned to me already that that is going to be a good race.

3:03:25 > 3:03:32Well, it turned out to be. Thank you. Well done, nice to see Michael

3:03:32 > 3:03:36Schumacher smiling. We see plenty of famous faces around here. We

3:03:36 > 3:03:42have one here. The Chelsea manager. You must be well used to world

3:03:42 > 3:03:47class sport come here, having had Norwich yesterday? I mean it was a

3:03:47 > 3:03:51difficult game for us. Fortunately we managed to turn it around in the

3:03:51 > 3:03:56last couple of minutes. It is seven points out of nine, it could be

3:03:56 > 3:04:01nine, but we had a draw against Stoke that was a bit out of running

3:04:01 > 3:04:09for this first three games sm but looking forward to the season.

3:04:09 > 3:04:15could talk about Norwich. I will interrupt him. He has got a big

3:04:15 > 3:04:19smug face when it came to 1-1, he kept prodding me. The fact is 3-1,

3:04:19 > 3:04:25just cruised by. Well done. Let's not talk about that. But today,

3:04:25 > 3:04:32you're into your motor racing? I love, I'm a big fan. I have been

3:04:32 > 3:04:37to a couple of circuits, I like Monaco a lot and enjoy Eddie's

3:04:37 > 3:04:40hospitality. So it is good to come back. We don't have enough free

3:04:40 > 3:04:45time. We had this international break and we got across for the

3:04:45 > 3:04:51Grand Prix. If I may, because we did speak in Monaco. Now tell me

3:04:52 > 3:04:59the truth. You had signed at that stage? What is that? Had you signed

3:04:59 > 3:05:07in when you were in Monaco, were you telling me pibs? Probably not.

3:05:07 > 3:05:11-- fibs. It is incredible to get the access to the drivers, it like

3:05:11 > 3:05:16someone walking into your dressing room. Yes you feel the emotions

3:05:16 > 3:05:25they go through in the drivers' area. Daifrtd is the example of

3:05:25 > 3:05:28that and the -- faived and the fuss and xiementt -- David is the

3:05:28 > 3:05:33example of that and the fuss and excitement. All of the drivers

3:05:33 > 3:05:38focus in getting the result. Could that happen in football, we could

3:05:38 > 3:05:43have that access before they go on the pitch. I don't know. There have

3:05:43 > 3:05:48been trials in Italy to let the TV crew into the dressing room at the

3:05:48 > 3:05:52start of the game. Just to get a feel of the players. But I mean it

3:05:52 > 3:05:56is... I mean it is like going into a motor home and watching you

3:05:56 > 3:06:01prepare. It is not convenient. Because it is a moment of focus and

3:06:01 > 3:06:09everyone wants to enjoy it. It is time to get ready for racing or

3:06:09 > 3:06:18playing. Thank you for joining us. I am sure it ages Eddie when he

3:06:18 > 3:06:22sees how young managers are. But we will get revenge at car row reed --

3:06:22 > 3:06:24Carrow Road. There was a great overtake by Fernando Alonso on Nico

3:06:24 > 3:06:31Rosberg. Difficult qualifying yesterday by Fernando Alonso and

3:06:31 > 3:06:37Ferrari will be pleased with both their cars today, if it was not for

3:06:37 > 3:06:41double pit stop. David Coulthard they are focusing on next year's

3:06:41 > 3:06:47development. The fact that he was able to come through and take the

3:06:48 > 3:06:52lead and that at that stage. This had you turning from the screen?

3:06:52 > 3:06:58stepped from the TV. I thought they were coming through the screen. But

3:06:58 > 3:07:04that was incredibly brave stuff from both of them. Really

3:07:04 > 3:07:10professional driving at 180mph. two are the biggest pros. You see

3:07:10 > 3:07:15Mark Webber on the edge of circuit. Fernando Alonso just giving him

3:07:15 > 3:07:23enough room. Here is Fernando Alonso. So close to getting on to

3:07:23 > 3:07:30the podium. Yes it was not possible I think in Spa when someone comes

3:07:30 > 3:07:35one second quicker than you. With the DRS, the overtaking is straight

3:07:35 > 3:07:39forward. I knew that before or later maybe the possibility of the

3:07:39 > 3:07:45podium was not a real one. Unfortunately it happened three

3:07:45 > 3:07:50laps from the end. It is a disappointing feeling. But it was a

3:07:50 > 3:07:55fun raiss race. The start was quite good and the first couple of laps

3:07:55 > 3:08:01with a lot of battles and at one point leading and we decided not

3:08:01 > 3:08:04the stop with the safe si -- safety car. We want the podium next time

3:08:04 > 3:08:11stkphr. What about you and Mark Webber side by side. A lot of

3:08:11 > 3:08:18people were hiding behind cushions at that point. Well it was, yeah, a

3:08:18 > 3:08:24good battle. But with Mark it is always quite good to battle. There

3:08:24 > 3:08:31is a lot of respect for everyone and... Fair game and no problems.

3:08:31 > 3:08:36It was good. But Eau Rouge is always a special to battle at.

3:08:36 > 3:08:41you feel you're still in the hunt for Red Bull? Every race is more

3:08:41 > 3:08:48difficult. So one race less, 25 points less available. And more

3:08:48 > 3:08:53distance. Because they keep winning. So until it is possible you need to

3:08:53 > 3:09:02keep fighting. But at the moment they are doing a fantastic job,

3:09:02 > 3:09:11doing I think 12 consecutive pole poss -- positions. So when a team

3:09:11 > 3:09:19or a car can do that, you just need to say well done. JAKE HUMPHREY:

3:09:19 > 3:09:23Another friend has dropped in. Nicky Lauder we have had a lot of

3:09:23 > 3:09:27chat about the Kobayashi/Lewis Hamilton affair. Maybe we would

3:09:27 > 3:09:31have your opinion please? First I think Lewis Hamilton is one of the

3:09:31 > 3:09:35best drivers in Formula One, if he could not take stupid mistakes.

3:09:35 > 3:09:39Today he would have stay on straight after he passed him, he

3:09:39 > 3:09:44would have finished third. Why he moved over, there was no reason.

3:09:44 > 3:09:48This I do not understand. He is so good. Why does he not just stay

3:09:48 > 3:09:53straight? Look at it. At what point does Lewis Hamilton make a mistake?

3:09:53 > 3:09:57He is ahead. So he just stays straight. Why does he move over to

3:09:57 > 3:10:05the left. The other guy was on the edge and he would have been into

3:10:05 > 3:10:09the corner any way. Watch it now. He is ahead. Well ahead. He should

3:10:09 > 3:10:16stay where he should be and turn in. There was no reason to go left. Do

3:10:17 > 3:10:21you agree? You were a driver. Coulthard -- DAVID COULTHARD: He

3:10:21 > 3:10:28has just not checked his mirror and realised that Kobayashi was there.

3:10:28 > 3:10:32Do you think Kobayashi should have wack -- backed out. He is not going

3:10:32 > 3:10:36pass him on the outside. Would he expect him to come to left. You

3:10:36 > 3:10:40just turn to the rate. There was no issue. The stewards decided it was

3:10:40 > 3:10:45a normal accident. There was no one to blame. There was nobody to blame.

3:10:45 > 3:10:50But he made no points. surprised the steward didn't want

3:10:50 > 3:10:55to look further. He was a British guy, he could have helped. Lou you

3:10:55 > 3:11:02expect Kobayashi to go off his line on to the grass. Kobayashi could

3:11:02 > 3:11:07have braibgd earlier, but why -- braked earlier, but why should he?

3:11:07 > 3:11:11This will be debated for a long time. Equally, it is the first time

3:11:11 > 3:11:18I have seen you without branding on your hat. Are you not popular any

3:11:18 > 3:11:22more? No I'm popular, I took off the red hat for Vettel and for

3:11:22 > 3:11:30Michael Schumacher. Don't forget the Germans. I thought you were

3:11:30 > 3:11:36Austrian. Are 0 become German? Bull is an Austrian car. Lou do you

3:11:36 > 3:11:41see the title battle now. Is it all over? It is all over. The question

3:11:41 > 3:11:45is when. I think it could happen in Singapore. It can easy happen in

3:11:45 > 3:11:50Japan. But in Korea for sure. You guys can think what you do after

3:11:50 > 3:11:57when the races are getting boring. You can entertain yourself. We will

3:11:57 > 3:12:00have something to fill the time. Thank you. Let's hear from a German

3:12:00 > 3:12:04driver, Nico Rosberg. He and Michael Schumacher were going toe

3:12:04 > 3:12:10to go. That great message came in, you are free to race and race they

3:12:10 > 3:12:14did. Nico Rosberg not quite managing to stay in fronts.

3:12:14 > 3:12:21strong drive and a lightning start from yourself. Yes it was cool. I

3:12:22 > 3:12:28had a good start. So thanks to my East Anglia engineer -- to my

3:12:28 > 3:12:32England here and -- thanks to my engineer. And with nobody in front

3:12:32 > 3:12:38of me it was a great feeling. to the end I can't imagine that the

3:12:38 > 3:12:42thing you want to hear when you're pushing hard is that to save fuel

3:12:42 > 3:12:47when you have Michael Schumacher breathing down your neck? Yes I had

3:12:47 > 3:12:53seen in the middle I had the push to stay ahead of the group as I was

3:12:53 > 3:12:58struggling with the tyres. You have to save fuel. It is a pity that

3:12:58 > 3:13:02Michael got me. But he was on the soft tyre and I was on the hard

3:13:02 > 3:13:07tyre. Are you leaving happy, is the progression going well? I don't

3:13:07 > 3:13:12know. We have to analyse. Today was a good result for the team. A step

3:13:12 > 3:13:17in the right direction. But still some work to do. But this year will

3:13:17 > 3:13:23be difficult. It is more than we need to see when the point comes to

3:13:23 > 3:13:29concentrate on next year. They have been talking about concentrating on

3:13:29 > 3:13:37next year for a few races. How much thould should they think about 2012.

3:13:37 > 3:13:43It was a good result and good that Michael perform well in the 0th

3:13:43 > 3:13:53celebration, rather than the 2 hundred race. -- 20thslbraigs. It

3:13:53 > 3:13:54

3:13:54 > 3:13:59was a genuine lead. But they are still lacking in pace. Nico Rosberg

3:13:59 > 3:14:05as he often gets reminded, he has never won since coming into Formula

3:14:05 > 3:14:10One. First we must ask is the car capable of winning a race. I think

3:14:10 > 3:14:14Ross Brawn says it is not and Michael Schumacher says No so Nico

3:14:14 > 3:14:17Rosberg has done a great job under pressure. The leader in the team is

3:14:17 > 3:14:22Michael Schumacher. This team is for Michael Schumacher. I'm not

3:14:22 > 3:14:27saying that Nico Rosberg isn't getting a good quality of sfts, but

3:14:27 > 3:14:33Nico Rosberg is doing a very strong job. Talking of doing a strong job,

3:14:33 > 3:14:43how great has Jenson Button been? Coming into this Grier, he had

3:14:43 > 3:14:50

3:14:50 > 3:14:58managed 39 overtakes and we can outside of the Renault. He is a

3:14:58 > 3:15:02racer. In certain circumstances, he is really well suited. This is with

3:15:02 > 3:15:08Adrian Sutil. Adrian Sutil locking up and that would make me think,

3:15:08 > 3:15:18should I let the Koren white? Not Jenson. Here, he is with Felipe

3:15:18 > 3:15:18

3:15:18 > 3:15:22Massa. Wheel to wheel, great driving from both those guys.

3:15:22 > 3:15:27now he is getting past Nico Rosberg and the first thing he said on the

3:15:27 > 3:15:31radio, how far are the guys in front? The message, you can catch

3:15:32 > 3:15:37them. They wanted him to continue with this great form.

3:15:37 > 3:15:41particularly enjoyed this pass. He was catching up Nico Rosberg to

3:15:41 > 3:15:48early I think. So he built the Kop -- pulled the car out of the

3:15:48 > 3:15:55slipstream, but extra drag on it, pulled it back in. Over the top of

3:15:55 > 3:16:00the hill, he pulls out, slows the car down a bit, pulls back into the

3:16:00 > 3:16:10slipstream, employees ers, that is a racer with full knowledge of the

3:16:10 > 3:16:15

3:16:15 > 3:16:20tools at his disposal. DRS he is driving better than ever, some of

3:16:20 > 3:16:27those moods will go down in the history books -- he is. That was a

3:16:27 > 3:16:33really cool past. And that was clean racing. No banging wheels we

3:16:33 > 3:16:37saw with Pastor Maldonado and Lewis yesterday. And that was another

3:16:37 > 3:16:42great pass outside Fernando Alonso. That is greater round that corner,

3:16:43 > 3:16:46you get it wrong and you lose a lot more than a place. Jenson was clear

3:16:46 > 3:16:52when he joined McLaren that he was probably not as fast as Lewis

3:16:52 > 3:16:56Hamilton but he thought he was a better racer. Arguably, he is as

3:16:56 > 3:17:03close as Lewis Hamilton now -- she is as close to Lewis Hamilton now

3:17:03 > 3:17:06as he was when he joined McLaren. - - he is. He has won a World

3:17:06 > 3:17:13Championship and ticked that barks and knows when it comes to that

3:17:13 > 3:17:20final part of qualifying, Lewis has that bit of pace. -- kicked that

3:17:20 > 3:17:26box. In racing turns, he has been fantastic. For Red Bull built their

3:17:26 > 3:17:34car in 2009, improved it the next two years, but McLaren's that --

3:17:34 > 3:17:39McLaren scrapped the 2009 car, do they have a good enough carnauba to

3:17:39 > 3:17:43work towards 2012? It is not consistent enough, it very quick in

3:17:43 > 3:17:49certain times but it falls a way, and that is the concern. -- very

3:17:49 > 3:17:54quick. Lee McKenzie is with Jenson Button.

3:17:54 > 3:17:59Congratulations, a strong and to your race, but what a lively start!

3:17:59 > 3:18:05A messy start to the race. You hope when you are that far back you have

3:18:05 > 3:18:10a nice easy first lap but it was not the case. I got hit by Adrian

3:18:10 > 3:18:14Sutil in turn won and lost half my gear wing a plate. Coming out of

3:18:14 > 3:18:20turn one, there was mayhem and something went through my front

3:18:20 > 3:18:27wing and took my front wing Gogh. I said I had to get in the front wing

3:18:27 > 3:18:32and they said, you have to wait to make the strategy work. I waited

3:18:32 > 3:18:38until lap five, then I pitted and flat out from after that. There was

3:18:38 > 3:18:45a chunking issue on the front left tyre, so very tricky and hard to

3:18:45 > 3:18:49push, but a very lively race, a lot of fun. We all go out for a win but

3:18:49 > 3:18:54third is reasonable from where we started. A misunderstanding

3:18:54 > 3:19:01yesterday that has cost a lot of points. At which point today did

3:19:01 > 3:19:06you think, it yes, a podium is definitely on today? -- yes. After

3:19:06 > 3:19:11I started overtaking people, I thought, the pace is pretty good

3:19:12 > 3:19:17considering the damage. And we do not have to put Primes on, we have

3:19:17 > 3:19:23got options. So it was exciting. We were passing a Renault and his

3:19:23 > 3:19:30Sauber in to turn one, I got past both of them. And then you have the

3:19:30 > 3:19:37problem with the DRS, both were trying to get past me on the

3:19:38 > 3:19:42straight. A good race and has little mistakes that we have got to

3:19:42 > 3:19:47stop happening. And then we can win more races, because we are quick

3:19:47 > 3:19:51enough. The car is the best it has been all year, I am very confident

3:19:51 > 3:19:57and feel the best I have done it in Formula One. We can get very good

3:19:57 > 3:20:02races from here. He is certainly competitive at the

3:20:02 > 3:20:07moment and you can relive his race on the rest of the Belgian Grand

3:20:07 > 3:20:14Prix earlier than usual and on a different channel, BBC Two tonight.

3:20:14 > 3:20:18And MotoGP action after that at 6:30pm. And the Monza Grand Prix is

3:20:18 > 3:20:23back in a couple of weeks. We return to Italy and are looking

3:20:23 > 3:20:33forward to that, but we are not done from Belgium.

3:20:33 > 3:20:34

3:20:34 > 3:20:44Law of F1? Yes. -- do you love F1? Then you know what to do. You need

3:20:44 > 3:20:49

3:20:49 > 3:20:53the F1 forum. F1 a?! -- F1?! one forum for more analysis and

3:20:53 > 3:21:01behind the scenes action, press the red Button -- the F1 forums.

3:21:02 > 3:21:08Amazing, have a look. We will see you then! Marcus marshal you old --

3:21:08 > 3:21:12mark, surely you are with us? I am just disappointed every time

3:21:12 > 3:21:18there is not a swimming-pool and if you were not watching us in Monaco,

3:21:18 > 3:21:23you would not know what I mean. We have got radical, it has got hot

3:21:23 > 3:21:27over here. And we enjoyed that, didn't we? A lot of action and

3:21:27 > 3:21:31different strategies and tyres. Going back to the question about

3:21:31 > 3:21:36the weather, have you ever seen sunshine and Spa? All the different

3:21:36 > 3:21:41weather conditions today. Back to the race, I fought six or seven
