:03:06. > :03:12.That is as far as my Italian goes. But it does not matter what

:03:12. > :03:17.nationality you are as the pursuit of speed is the universal language.

:03:17. > :03:23.This place has reverberated to the sound of the racing car since 1922.

:03:23. > :03:28.But what has not changed is the love they have around here for one

:03:28. > :03:32.team, Ferrari. I imagine the garage is a nervous place at the moment.

:03:32. > :03:38.If there is one race where this team needs to reform it is right

:03:38. > :03:44.here in Monza for the 2011 Italian Grand Prix. Welcome to coverage

:03:44. > :03:54.with us right here on BBC One. Have you been enjoying the famous

:03:54. > :03:55.

:03:55. > :04:02.Italian hospitality? You can almost smell the passion. We will not talk

:04:02. > :04:06.about the wind on this show but the food is fantastic. Yesterday we

:04:06. > :04:16.talked about David winning here so it is only right that we should

:04:16. > :04:16.

:04:16. > :04:22.start the programme to date with this.

:04:22. > :04:29.Another magnificent victory for Eddie Jordan. People said you could

:04:29. > :04:34.only win in wet-weather! I do remember one occasion when I got

:04:34. > :04:44.poked in the chest and told that it was the first one I had ever won on

:04:44. > :04:46.

:04:46. > :04:51.merit. And what do they mean when they talk about the piranha Club?

:04:51. > :04:55.Well it was a moment when Schumacher it was taken off to

:04:55. > :05:01.another team. Words always stay with you and I have never forgotten

:05:01. > :05:05.those words. And he was right because it is a difficult business.

:05:05. > :05:10.Making reference to the Ji Parana Club, everything will be OK

:05:10. > :05:15.provided you can get on and win and get what you need. That is how

:05:15. > :05:19.sport is and motor-racing is no exception. Let's take a look and

:05:19. > :05:25.see what is happening with the rest of the Formula 1 season. The magic

:05:25. > :05:31.of the sport is that in two weeks' time you can be in Singapore, it is

:05:31. > :05:37.just so different everywhere you go. You have both maternity and history.

:05:37. > :05:42.That is what sets aside from so many other sports. It is a truly

:05:42. > :05:49.local sport. It looks like a tough end to the season for these teams.

:05:49. > :05:56.A lot of time away from home. A lot of stress and shipping everything

:05:56. > :06:00.back and forward. The team principal of the Ferrari has just

:06:00. > :06:04.popped over and to say hello. As strange weekend for you in many

:06:04. > :06:09.ways because there is such a warmth from the fans but yet such pressure

:06:09. > :06:15.to perform. Yes I was discussing last night the difference between

:06:15. > :06:25.what is a driver for Ferrari and the feeling of people towards the

:06:25. > :06:28.drivers. The drivers become famous because they're driving with us.

:06:28. > :06:33.Everyone would like to see us in the same place we were last year.

:06:33. > :06:39.It is difficult to do and for sure today will be a challenge for

:06:39. > :06:45.everyone. And the Italian fans one year strip your car off almost

:06:45. > :06:51.every piece of bodywork? Passion from the Italian fans, be

:06:51. > :06:57.wanted to have a memento. They took anything they possibly could!

:06:57. > :07:03.expensive day for Williams. We hope this is a successful day for

:07:03. > :07:13.Ferrari. The advice to any driver around their today is do not stop

:07:13. > :07:40.

:07:40. > :07:45.on the track because once again the David, explain how much you are

:07:45. > :07:51.aware of the fans when you're racing around here? Eel are, it

:07:51. > :07:55.piquancy the crowd and they are so colourful. They move around in the

:07:55. > :08:00.Grandstand and you know when a pass has happened even if it is not on a

:08:00. > :08:04.piece of track where you are racing. And if you glance up but the big

:08:04. > :08:12.screens you can get a very good visual reference of where you might

:08:12. > :08:19.come out after a pit stop. miles an hour and still watching

:08:19. > :08:27.television! It is going to be difficult and it is difficult in

:08:27. > :08:32.the Championship battle as well. Mark Webber is sitting at the

:08:32. > :08:37.moment in second place in the constructors Championship. Ferrari

:08:37. > :08:43.are sitting buried at the moment. Not so famous drivers knocking

:08:43. > :08:49.around. Let's take a look at some famous faces. And there is such

:08:49. > :08:58.pressure on Ferrari because of the past, their history. Nicky louder,

:08:58. > :09:04.we all know him of course, it is good to see him back. And Eddie

:09:04. > :09:10.Irvine, my old Irish buddy. A pretty famous face. These guys had

:09:10. > :09:17.such passion about coming here and driving. I have one concern, and

:09:17. > :09:27.where are the Italian drivers now? Those that are able to win. Why

:09:27. > :09:27.

:09:27. > :09:31.does an Italian driver, very seldom, to see them driving at Ferrari.

:09:31. > :09:38.Traditionally it does not happen but I would love to see the passion

:09:38. > :09:43.of an Italian driver here at Monza driving at Ferrari. Did you ever

:09:43. > :09:52.get close to driving for Ferrari? did have a conversation with them

:09:52. > :09:56.at one stage but I figured that British teams felt comfortable.

:09:56. > :10:02.There is no question that it would have been an emotional thing to

:10:02. > :10:09.drive for Ferrari but it would have been difficult as well. You did OK

:10:09. > :10:13.in the end! So the game today is to continue to chase Sebastian Vettel

:10:13. > :10:20.and beaten to that world Championship. But they cannot even

:10:20. > :10:25.beat him on Saturdays in qualifying! Here is Ted Kravitz.

:10:25. > :10:30.The slow pace of life in the royal park gets turned upside-down when

:10:30. > :10:37.the Grand Prix comes to town. 24 cars rushing past in a blur. The

:10:37. > :10:42.early action came from Pastor Maldonado who opened his role would

:10:42. > :10:47.baulk rear wing to a saloon pitching his Williams into a spin.

:10:47. > :10:53.Nico Rosberg was trying something different in the race. He was slow

:10:53. > :10:59.and qualifying because he used the hard tyres at the start. Michael

:10:59. > :11:03.Schumacher is one place ahead of him on the grid. We have a

:11:03. > :11:11.different strategy between the go and myself and we will find out

:11:11. > :11:16.what is the better one. No matter what it is a team effort. Ferrari

:11:16. > :11:25.tried an old slip streaming tick to try to get Fernando Alonso up the

:11:25. > :11:29.grid. And it worked. Fernando Alonso is the 4th while the

:11:29. > :11:35.obliging philippic master is only in 6th place was DUP we know how

:11:35. > :11:40.important the slipstream is here at Monza. At the start you're in a

:11:40. > :11:47.good position and you are in the first places in the first couple of

:11:47. > :11:53.laps. I could not manage to put everything together. It was a shame

:11:53. > :11:57.because of that. It was a messy session for Mark Webber who is

:11:57. > :12:02.running different here ratios than his team-mate Sebastian Vettel and

:12:02. > :12:12.they are more suited to the race. So the fight for pole position it

:12:12. > :12:15.

:12:15. > :12:20.will be between Sebastian fettle and the McLaren cars. He managed an

:12:20. > :12:24.impressive power slide but not the fastest way around the corner. That

:12:24. > :12:29.gave the McLaren cars and chance but they could not take advantage.

:12:29. > :12:33.They could not beat Sebastian Vettel's original time. And then he

:12:33. > :12:43.went even quicker, half a second faster on a track that

:12:43. > :12:43.

:12:43. > :12:48.traditionally has not suited the Red Bull. Half the second is a lot.

:12:48. > :12:57.I want to finish and then if there is another opportunity I will take

:12:57. > :13:02.it. All in all I'm a very happy. We feared that in qualifying we could

:13:02. > :13:06.be too slow on the straights but we got everything together and the

:13:06. > :13:10.balance was perfect. So in the corners I was able to catch up and

:13:10. > :13:17.managed to be quicker than the others. Previously we were

:13:17. > :13:20.struggling on this circuit so it is nice to come back. So Sebastian

:13:20. > :13:26.Vettel in pole position for the 10th time this season. Lewis

:13:26. > :13:33.Hamilton alongside and Jensen Button behind, both ready to attack.

:13:33. > :13:40.Mark Webber also has strong race case and could make the podium. But

:13:40. > :13:50.watch out for Nico Rosberg on that different tiers strategy. It is an

:13:50. > :13:54.

:13:54. > :13:59.all Williams raised in rose 7. Team Lotus and HRT behind.

:13:59. > :14:03.We're just making our way down to the Mercedes. They have had

:14:03. > :14:08.brilliant speed all season on the straight lines. Not the greatest of

:14:08. > :14:12.qualifying sessions. But first McLaren, if Jensen Button and Lewis

:14:12. > :14:17.Hamilton have not made individual errors in qualifying, could they

:14:17. > :14:21.have lived with the pace of Sebastian Vettel? I spoke to them

:14:21. > :14:26.after qualifying and they felt they did lose some time on the

:14:27. > :14:31.qualifying laps. But the gap was simply too big. The strategy they

:14:31. > :14:34.had gone for it was for race pace and they never expected to pull it

:14:34. > :14:42.off in a qualification. But Sebastian Vettel did a fantastic

:14:42. > :14:47.lap. Red Bull have had an issue all season with KERS. And Mark Webber

:14:47. > :14:53.was handicapped yesterday. They have had certain problems all

:14:53. > :14:57.involving the same area. I am surprised that they do not have a

:14:57. > :15:02.handle on it. We thought it was all finished with around the British

:15:02. > :15:08.Grand Prix. But it is still lurking in the background and they need to

:15:08. > :15:13.sort it out. It was five years ago at this very race that Michael

:15:13. > :15:19.Schumacher announced that he was retiring from Formula 1. But here

:15:19. > :15:29.he is and he starts from eighth position today. That's find out how

:15:29. > :15:30.

:15:30. > :15:34.Are you feeling? I am very excited because Monza is special. We have a

:15:34. > :15:39.different strategy, and hopefully one of us can take advantage of

:15:39. > :15:46.this. Maybe even both. Let us see which of the two is the better.

:15:46. > :15:51.have one here five times. What is it like to be back here, albeit not

:15:51. > :15:58.in red? I get a good reception from the fans. This certainly have not

:15:58. > :16:04.forgotten what we do together. they certainly. Just a few moments

:16:04. > :16:11.before he climbed into his car. We are in the next port a long as Nico

:16:11. > :16:16.Rosberg gears up. He has sacrificed speed for better strategy. He

:16:16. > :16:23.qualified on harder tyres. Is that a wise move? That remains to be

:16:23. > :16:26.seen. The rumours of blistering on compound tyres. Pirelli have the

:16:26. > :16:30.strategy of making the race interesting. I think it is good

:16:30. > :16:34.that someone in the top 10 is on a different strategy. They have the

:16:34. > :16:40.advantage, which is two very similarly skilled drivers in terms

:16:40. > :16:46.of timing. As a result, and also it is very hot, icy blistering as

:16:46. > :16:51.being a problem. I fancy Nico Rosberg winning this little joule,

:16:51. > :16:55.because I think to start on the hard tyres is a good omen because

:16:55. > :16:59.at the end they will have soft tyres and they will be able to pick

:16:59. > :17:03.up the pace. And keep an eye on Michael Schumacher, who has been

:17:03. > :17:07.amazing at the start this season. How hard is it to drive around the

:17:07. > :17:11.circuit? It is mainly a lows of straights with a few corners. If we

:17:11. > :17:20.decided to go to the next best thing then driving it ourselves, in

:17:20. > :17:27.the company of a man who knows a fair bit about racing. Maughan says

:17:27. > :17:35.all about speed. The driver has to work especially hard. -- Monza is

:17:35. > :17:43.all about speed. Off they go! would be the driver's ultimate

:17:43. > :17:50.nightmare. Dear me. I am watching the screen to see how he gets on. I

:17:50. > :17:57.am hugely excited. Having never sat in a Formula One car, how will I

:17:57. > :18:02.know what to do? In my day, we only had to think about the gears.

:18:02. > :18:10.quite nervous now. Running for the line. It is a rather unimpressive

:18:10. > :18:14.31.8. What is the record? 22. Your nine seconds off the pace. What is

:18:14. > :18:19.the trek to a fast lap time? needs to be treated aggressively.

:18:19. > :18:29.You have to be hard on the brakes and the clutch. How often does

:18:29. > :18:29.

:18:29. > :18:35.Christian drive this? Maybe once. Once his once too much. Christian

:18:35. > :18:40.is going first. Should I? Good luck. On the brake a leg. How do you

:18:40. > :18:50.reckon he will be? Well, people do not realise that Christian used to

:18:50. > :18:56.

:18:56. > :19:03.race. He still has a GP to team for some -- GP2 team. Massive

:19:03. > :19:13.deceleration. Nice apex. This is going to be the greatest Lapper

:19:13. > :19:18.

:19:18. > :19:25.your life. No pressure. Approaching braking point! He has blown that!

:19:25. > :19:28.To going, this is it. It is like a load of Banksy drivers. I will give

:19:28. > :19:34.you that it has been a few years since we were in the car. There

:19:34. > :19:43.were some nice lines around there. Has this ever held due to winning?

:19:43. > :19:45.Our guys came on here before it that race. -- before the race. That

:19:45. > :19:51.track knowledge, the time they spend on the simulator gives them

:19:51. > :19:55.the edge going into free practice. The key thing that people do not

:19:55. > :19:59.realise when they are playing games his house sensitive a Grand Prix

:19:59. > :20:04.car is to drive. When you have it within its operating window, there

:20:04. > :20:14.is lots of downforce and grip. It is not designed to go sideways. You

:20:14. > :20:16.

:20:16. > :20:25.have to keep it tidy. And nice getaway, Jake. Nice apex. This is

:20:25. > :20:34.it. Use the KERS. You will get another boost. And again. Is he

:20:34. > :20:43.going to get the braking point? Would define the handbrake? I have

:20:44. > :20:49.decided this is the flying lap. -- where did you find. That chicane is

:20:49. > :20:59.ridiculous! How do I get this corner right? I am going to go slow,

:20:59. > :21:08.

:21:08. > :21:15.As you can see, driving a Formula One car, or on track or in the

:21:15. > :21:19.simulator, is really difficult. All things considered, it was a pretty

:21:19. > :21:27.good effort. You need talent to drive a Grand Prix car or a

:21:27. > :21:33.simulator, neither of which Jake has got. Tell us something we do

:21:33. > :21:39.not know. A sterling effort, Christian. It looks so easy. Some

:21:39. > :21:42.new-found respect for the boys out there. Absolutely. This circuit has

:21:42. > :21:49.not got many corners, so imagine what you would be like at

:21:49. > :21:52.Silverstone. Let us talk about the set-up. Pretty much everybody

:21:52. > :21:57.behind you have said they feel good about this because looking at the

:21:57. > :22:05.top speeds, Sebastian Vettel does not have the advantage. Is that are

:22:05. > :22:13.concerned? Is the aim to run and hide today? -- is the aim.

:22:13. > :22:17.Hopefully, if he is stalled, he will still be competitive. He

:22:17. > :22:26.should still have enough straight- line speed to pass McLaren because

:22:26. > :22:32.they have a big way in. We think we are in a good position. -- winger.

:22:32. > :22:40.I think we both need a bit more tuition from David cold start. --

:22:40. > :22:47.David Coulthard. Sebastian Vettel, heading to top

:22:47. > :22:54.spot on the grid, but Jenson Button is right behind him. The man in 4th,

:22:54. > :23:02.his future is not completely secure. Tell us about this season. What

:23:02. > :23:12.would your report cards say. What Would You report card say? You

:23:12. > :23:14.

:23:14. > :23:22.have got me there. A sensational drive for Button. Maybe some of Cs.

:23:22. > :23:27.The As would have been in the races. What a brilliant drive.

:23:27. > :23:33.qualifying, it has not been strong, the first part of the season, but I

:23:33. > :23:40.fear her -- I feel that I am improving. It is a pity that I have

:23:40. > :23:50.not had a good chance to push it in qualifying. Misunderstanding, and

:23:50. > :23:55.

:23:55. > :24:00.not getting a Lappin into two. -- a lap in to two. You have done more

:24:00. > :24:06.over lapping than -- overtaking than anyone else. Why is that?

:24:06. > :24:11.Races like Canada, it is those races that have meant that I have

:24:11. > :24:16.had to overtake a lot. It is that excitement, are really making a

:24:17. > :24:24.move stick. That is what you really expect. Overtaking Fernando or

:24:24. > :24:30.Felipe Massa or Michael. It really means a lot. You have a real smile

:24:30. > :24:33.on your face when it happens. seem really happy. Winning here,

:24:33. > :24:39.beating Lewis Hamilton, has that raised your stock as a racing

:24:39. > :24:43.driver? As it made people sit up and notice you more? It is

:24:43. > :24:48.difficult to comment on but from what other people say, yes. I think

:24:48. > :24:55.I am driving better than I was at Brawn. My confidence is very

:24:55. > :25:01.different to what it was. Finding a car that I am unable to work with,

:25:01. > :25:05.and a good balance, that makes a difference. -- I am able. You feel

:25:05. > :25:09.that you are emerging as the team leader? I am sure that Lewis

:25:09. > :25:13.Hamilton would say he is the team leader, but I would say that it is

:25:13. > :25:19.me. We're both working as hard as we can. That does not mean we are

:25:19. > :25:29.fighting against each other. Fighting against rebels and

:25:29. > :25:32.

:25:32. > :25:37.Ferrari's is not easy. -- Red Bulls and Ferraris is not easy. If

:25:37. > :25:41.Sebastian Vettel does not win this year, it will be a big surprise.

:25:41. > :25:46.For us, we are all fighters and we all want to win the championship,

:25:46. > :25:50.but pretty much, it is over. We want to keep the excitement in the

:25:50. > :25:56.sport though, so every race, we should be fighting for a victory.

:25:56. > :26:00.If we can do that, it is an amazing end to the year. That will carry

:26:00. > :26:03.over to 2012. We're not going to be running a new car, the rules are

:26:03. > :26:10.not different. Having a great end to the season is exactly what we

:26:10. > :26:13.need. So we will definitely see racing for McLaren next year? Is

:26:13. > :26:21.that signed and sealed? probably better speak to Martin

:26:21. > :26:25.about that. But for me, my overtaking in the last race was

:26:25. > :26:29.great. I lost my wing mirror so we could not see where the car was.

:26:29. > :26:36.That is probably the best thing to do. Black the wing mirrors out so

:26:36. > :26:40.you cannot see if the car is going to hit you. It worked for me.

:26:40. > :26:47.would be a success for wrap up to the season in your eyes? Winning

:26:47. > :26:50.them all. No pressure! No for some talking about pressure, we have

:26:50. > :26:54.made their way out on to the grid. I'm sure some of the drivers are

:26:54. > :26:59.feeling nervous. You can see the incredible grandstand that they

:26:59. > :27:04.have got here. There are very few in Formula One to rival this one.

:27:04. > :27:08.The thing is, it is a park every day of the week except for this

:27:08. > :27:13.week. There is this amazing atmosphere were people have been

:27:13. > :27:18.coming in. I came here particularly early and the place was rammed. It

:27:18. > :27:22.is just a different place. It is going to be a very hard thing for

:27:22. > :27:26.new races to compare to this. This is one of the very special places.

:27:26. > :27:30.Let us make our way over to the other side of the grid. It would be

:27:30. > :27:36.nice to see where Jenson Button will be starting. We will talk

:27:36. > :27:41.about his future. It may be worth waiting, because I think we have

:27:41. > :27:45.the World Champion making his way down. Sebastian Vettel experience

:27:45. > :27:50.last year what Jenson Button felt the year before. Why have they not

:27:50. > :27:53.got their heads together and sorted out a contract? And do not think it

:27:54. > :27:56.has anything to do with the agreement to want to drive. Both

:27:56. > :28:01.drivers had been vocal about the fact that they are burning out

:28:01. > :28:05.during the course of the season. From my time at McLaren, I know

:28:05. > :28:09.that there were many promotional days because of the Investment

:28:09. > :28:14.model. The partners require peace of the action with the race drivers.

:28:14. > :28:20.In fairness, I viewed that I raced for fun and I got paid for

:28:20. > :28:23.promotion, so you cannot always have it. Do you agree that Jenson

:28:23. > :28:27.Button's stock has gone up? He might not be winning the worst

:28:27. > :28:32.title -- the world title, but he seems a better driver than he was.

:28:32. > :28:36.He is seen as a better person overall. You have to understand

:28:36. > :28:42.that I think he was an exemplary World Champion. His stock went up

:28:42. > :28:46.because of that. His face is more familiar. He is somebody who has

:28:46. > :28:52.moved away from sport, into the global renown. I think he has

:28:52. > :28:57.turned out to be a remarkable man, very easy with the public as well.

:28:57. > :29:00.He is prepared to talk and sit down. I guarantee you, he is one of the

:29:00. > :29:04.guys that if you wanted to an interview on the grid, he would be

:29:05. > :29:11.the first to do it. I spotted something on the McLaren, they have

:29:11. > :29:18.a reversed Gurney on the rear wing. You have to come in behind the car

:29:18. > :29:24.to see it. Typically, if you look at the black girl a sitting up

:29:24. > :29:32.against the wing, that is to get down force of the real -- off the

:29:32. > :29:38.rear wing. -- Black Gurney. That is very interesting. Literally, that

:29:38. > :29:48.suggests that the McLaren wing is to bake, and that they have had to

:29:48. > :29:52.

:29:53. > :30:01.Will that compromise it around the circuit? Leads move down to the

:30:01. > :30:06.front were Martin Brundle is waiting. You have to look at the

:30:06. > :30:16.technical features of the cars. Maarten, good to see you. We have

:30:16. > :30:23.already celebrated Eddie's win around here. I'd finished second

:30:23. > :30:28.with the Benetton team. It was pretty exciting. Ayrton Senna beat

:30:29. > :30:34.me in the race that day. He leaned over and said, we are going to be

:30:34. > :30:39.team mates next year at Williams. I thought that I was going to

:30:39. > :30:46.Williams and I did not know that he was. But as it happens neither of

:30:47. > :30:55.us drove for Williams the following year. But that was a long time ago.

:30:55. > :30:59.Let's concentrate on the day. I just want to show you the 800 metre

:30:59. > :31:08.run down to the first corner. I think that is going to be pivotal

:31:08. > :31:14.to day in terms of McLaren. Can they stop Sebastian Vettel getting

:31:14. > :31:19.that one second in front that he needs to stop them getting into its

:31:19. > :31:25.DRS activation zone. So the safety car has only been used three times

:31:25. > :31:30.in the past 10 years despite the high-speed nature of this circuit.

:31:30. > :31:40.Despite that it tends not to be needed as there enough -- as there

:31:40. > :31:41.

:31:41. > :31:46.is enough run-off area at the chicanes. Christian, you have got

:31:46. > :31:52.the short 7th year in his car. If you could change that now, would

:31:52. > :32:02.you? I would not. We split our options because we have got Mark

:32:02. > :32:05.

:32:05. > :32:10.Webber on the other gear. We think it should be OK even install

:32:10. > :32:20.position. We are about to find out. I will come back to Sebastian in a

:32:20. > :32:21.

:32:21. > :32:29.moment. Let's find this Jensen Button who is the third on the grid.

:32:29. > :32:38.He is under the umbrella. A quick word. Are you working together with

:32:38. > :32:43.Lewis Hamilton to fight Red Bull? Obviously when we get out there.

:32:43. > :32:48.But it is every man for himself out there. We will see what happens

:32:48. > :32:54.during the race. We know what we're doing now. We're not going to trip

:32:54. > :33:04.over each other. It is so hot today and I think it is going to be tough

:33:04. > :33:07.

:33:07. > :33:17.on the tyres and that DRS is going to make it an interesting race.

:33:17. > :33:22.

:33:22. > :33:32.you think that you have an advantage with though -- the gear?

:33:32. > :33:32.

:33:32. > :33:42.I don't think so. Sebastian Vettel expected to be in pole position but

:33:42. > :33:43.

:33:43. > :33:53.Mark Webber did not. We will see what happens. There are also at a

:33:53. > :33:54.

:33:54. > :33:59.lodge of flies about. I am glad you picked up on the important things!

:33:59. > :34:06.But it will be important if you cannot see where you're going! So

:34:06. > :34:16.Mark Webber just walking off the grid, unfortunately. This is a

:34:16. > :34:19.

:34:19. > :34:26.Fernando Alonso's car. Let's take a look at the rear wing. They have

:34:26. > :34:33.much less drag. But the Ferrari has not been fast enough, except that

:34:33. > :34:43.they think they're vain to use their tyres much last. -- going to

:34:43. > :34:48.

:34:48. > :34:55.use. Less see if we can find Felipe Massa up. It is so hot down here. I

:34:55. > :35:05.think they all want to get out of the sunshine as quickly as they can.

:35:05. > :35:11.

:35:11. > :35:19.Let's have a word with Vitali Petrov. Sorry, let's have a word

:35:19. > :35:25.with Jackie Stewart. You know this place very well indeed? There's

:35:25. > :35:30.more atmosphere here than at any other race track in the world. The

:35:30. > :35:40.Italians for motor racing are probably the best advice of all the

:35:40. > :35:45.

:35:45. > :35:51.countries. And Gerard, you are the governor at Lotus. It is really

:35:51. > :35:58.positive this year with our drivers. They have brought positive energy

:35:58. > :36:03.into the team. I would try to have a quick word with Vitali Petrov.

:36:03. > :36:08.Are you satisfied with the 7th place? It was an interesting

:36:08. > :36:16.weekend. The engineers did a fantastic job and this is the

:36:16. > :36:22.result. Can you get anywhere near the top six? We will try. To date

:36:22. > :36:31.is another day and we will try to fight the guys in front. Felipe

:36:31. > :36:41.Massa here are hiding in the shadow of the wall. Talking to his

:36:41. > :36:42.

:36:42. > :36:49.Engineer. British engineer, of course. Last minute details. We

:36:49. > :36:56.just have about 30 seconds remaining. He is on a run, I think

:36:56. > :37:01.it will be his 6th consecutive points scoring opportunity. So

:37:02. > :37:07.Felipe Massa are very much back on form these days. But that is not a

:37:07. > :37:14.conversation that I am going to interrupt at this moment. So an

:37:14. > :37:19.expectant crowd for what should be a thrilling Grand Prix. It is going

:37:19. > :37:24.to be who finds out first and relax the fastest if they cannot get

:37:24. > :37:30.through without three stops. Once again Formula 1 is all about

:37:30. > :37:35.dealing with your tyres and making sure you have your strategy bang on.

:37:35. > :37:40.But there's a whole new strategy, it used to be UK men with as little

:37:40. > :37:50.drag as you could get away with. But that has all changed because of

:37:50. > :37:57.the DRS. And for the first time. am a little bit confused and

:37:57. > :38:04.slightly disappointed. For me this was the great track where you could

:38:04. > :38:12.slipstream in the natural way. But then to insert two DRS, that

:38:12. > :38:18.confuses me. What are would like to do is just keep a lid on these

:38:18. > :38:28.artificial moves. I would like to see a little bit more natural. I am

:38:28. > :38:33.a believer in KERS and DRS, but let us not overdo it. One man who will

:38:33. > :38:38.want to try to get to the front is Mark Webber. I thought sunshine had

:38:38. > :38:46.been banned from Formula 1 but it is a hot day. How will that help or

:38:46. > :38:50.hinder you? It should not be too bad. It is nice to have a pretty

:38:50. > :38:57.straight forward Grand Prix in terms of decisions, whether Wise.

:38:57. > :39:01.We will see how that DRS work. And KERS, the boys seem pretty relaxed

:39:01. > :39:07.about that at the moment. We have done everything we can so it should

:39:07. > :39:12.be OK. Do you think you can make up a couple of places on the first

:39:12. > :39:22.term? I would love to. I'm looking forward to a decent start more than

:39:22. > :39:22.

:39:22. > :39:29.anyone. That was Mark Webber. He will be

:39:29. > :39:33.feeling quite tense at the moment but the fans certainly are not.

:39:33. > :39:43.Jaime Alguersuari has once again gone out in the first part of

:39:43. > :39:50.qualifying. And there is Michael Schumacher. Would you rather be a

:39:50. > :39:54.Michael Shaw banker or Nico Rosberg today? -- Michael Schumacher.

:39:54. > :39:59.think Nico Rosberg at this stage. When you sacrifice the qualifying

:39:59. > :40:03.position blab to be confident he will make it up during the race.

:40:03. > :40:11.Nico Rosberg has that in his mind. But we cannot rule out Michael

:40:11. > :40:16.Schumacher. Since Canada he has upped his pace. So it will be very

:40:16. > :40:26.interesting to see how this pair operate. Every single person

:40:26. > :40:26.

:40:26. > :40:31.dressed in red, all hoping that Fernando Alonso can do the business.

:40:31. > :40:35.Time for a treat for you, the man on pole position against the man

:40:35. > :40:41.who is second. How much difference was there between the lapse of

:40:41. > :40:50.Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton? Blocked a lot. -- not a

:40:50. > :40:56.lot. It is the super high-speed KERS circuit. Let's take a look

:40:56. > :41:04.with the lap with Sebastian Vettel on the left-hand side and Lewis

:41:04. > :41:07.Hamilton it on the right. They head towards the heavy braking zone.

:41:07. > :41:16.towards the heavy braking zone. Both cars with great traction going

:41:16. > :41:21.up through the gears. There it equally matched at this stage.

:41:21. > :41:28.Approaching 200 miles an hour. Easily the full throttle even with

:41:28. > :41:37.the DRS wide open. Heavy braking at the second chicane. And Lewis

:41:37. > :41:43.Hamilton slightly ahead with better straight-line speed. Down there now

:41:43. > :41:48.towards the first corner. And on the exit of that, once again Lewis

:41:48. > :41:57.Hamilton is slightly ahead halfway around the lap. The second corner

:41:57. > :42:02.is a little bit tighter, great precision needed. At this stage in

:42:02. > :42:12.the lap they are absolutely neck and neck. With the fast chicane to

:42:12. > :42:19.come. They fly the car or a cross the curse. But Sebastian Vettel

:42:19. > :42:23.clearly has more grip and confidence. He is taking several

:42:23. > :42:30.metres out of Lewis Hamilton at that particular place which makes

:42:30. > :42:38.all the difference. The magnificent Parabolica corner ahead of us. Pick

:42:38. > :42:44.up the throttle as early as you dare. The shortest run now to that

:42:44. > :42:50.finish line and it is a brilliant 25th poll position for Sebastian

:42:50. > :42:55.Vettel. Incredible. And he is the first man except fought Ayrton

:42:55. > :43:00.Senna to have temple positions in two different seasons. A great

:43:00. > :43:05.record. There is the race director up having a final look at the cars.

:43:05. > :43:15.He is the man who will start the race and do that before too long.

:43:15. > :43:16.

:43:16. > :43:20.Sebastian Vettel, starting on pole position, tell me about that.

:43:21. > :43:26.race has all kinds of permutations. You talk about Sebastian Vettel,

:43:26. > :43:31.Jensen Button, Lewis Hamilton. I have a sneaking suspicion that

:43:32. > :43:37.Lewis Hamilton might just pull this one out the back. All the evidence

:43:37. > :43:42.is dragging you towards Sebastian Vettel as being the one. But the

:43:42. > :43:50.problems he had since Belgium, coming out and saying he was wrong,

:43:50. > :43:55.I just have a sneaky suspicion that he might just bring it home. That

:43:55. > :44:01.would be a big shout, to beat Sebastian Vettel. I believe he can

:44:01. > :44:09.do it. I think he was wounded, he had a little swipe at a journalist

:44:09. > :44:13.the other day. It was a veiled disagreement. Well the fans are

:44:13. > :44:18.certainly ready and I hope you are as well. On the red Button you can

:44:18. > :44:26.ride on board with different drivers. Almost time to hand it

:44:26. > :44:36.over to David and Maarten. The fastest track on the racing

:44:36. > :44:36.

:44:36. > :45:27.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 51 seconds

:45:27. > :45:33.calendar. About to walk into life heritage and the magic of Monza.

:45:33. > :45:37.The first race held here in 1922 and this circuit has played a part

:45:37. > :45:42.in every Formula 1 world Championship apart from 1980. It is

:45:42. > :45:47.a temple of speed whether fans worship at the Alter of Ferrari and

:45:47. > :45:57.Fernando Alonso in particular, the winner last year at Monza. David,

:45:57. > :46:00.

:46:00. > :46:09.what are the challenges faced by average speech. -- all about

:46:09. > :46:14.momentum. There is a massive amount of braking forced through the

:46:14. > :46:17.braking system and the driver. It is a short race but the heat

:46:17. > :46:21.saturates into you. I do not know what it is the forest, but

:46:21. > :46:28.physically, it is a hard one for the drivers. This is all going to

:46:28. > :46:33.be about slipstream in and track position. Presumably Sebastian

:46:33. > :46:38.Vettel asked to get ahead to keep the McLarens at? He does not have

:46:38. > :46:42.the top speed of the cars around him. He was one of the slowest cars

:46:42. > :46:47.in qualifying. They have taken a strategic decision to set the car

:46:47. > :46:56.up to be as fast as possible. You do not have the use of DRS on the

:46:56. > :47:00.straights. You can gain an extra few kilometres an hour, but that

:47:00. > :47:06.leaves a number of places on the track were due are sub-optimal. We

:47:06. > :47:10.will see two strategies playing out. Mark Webber, the only man in the

:47:10. > :47:15.field to elect not to have a brand new engine for the race this

:47:15. > :47:19.weekend. He does have a brand new set of softer compound tyres. The

:47:19. > :47:24.people in front of them do not have that luxury. We will see if that

:47:24. > :47:33.manages to give him an advantage. Jenson Button, who I thought seemed

:47:33. > :47:36.particularly perky and confident. Lewis Hamilton, in the other

:47:36. > :47:42.McLaren, or on the front row. caught up with the team principal

:47:42. > :47:46.of McLaren after we pointed out that Gurney on the underside of the

:47:46. > :47:56.wane. He confirmed that he never thought it was the right way to run

:47:56. > :47:57.

:47:57. > :48:02.the wing, but apparently that is the right way for McLaren to run.

:48:02. > :48:06.They have put the smallest amount of fuel in, why is that? You cover

:48:06. > :48:16.the distance at greater speed. All will lap distance is the same, you

:48:16. > :48:19.

:48:19. > :48:29.just do not need as much fuel. -- although the latter distance.

:48:29. > :48:29.

:48:29. > :49:21.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 51 seconds

:49:21. > :49:26.us see how they line up for around who took the decision to qualify on

:49:26. > :49:30.the harder tyres, had to take another set of harder Prime tyres

:49:30. > :49:39.for the start of the race because there was damage to the sense that

:49:39. > :49:43.he used in qualifying. Because of blisters, do you think? Will love

:49:43. > :49:53.rubber will literally get so hot it explodes. -- the rubber will

:49:53. > :50:00.

:50:00. > :50:03.literally. That could be so that -- that could be the case. These four

:50:04. > :50:11.drivers are taking the autumn at a route. They want to get at higher

:50:11. > :50:16.out of the way. While you have the heavier fuel load, the equivalent

:50:16. > :50:21.of two medium-sized passengers, why not put on a more durable tyre?

:50:21. > :50:26.makes perfect sense. The only issue is that the harder tyre is law. We

:50:26. > :50:30.presume that we will see some blistering this afternoon. But we

:50:30. > :50:36.saw blistering inspire. Sebastian Vettel was able to run quite

:50:36. > :50:41.happily. -- in spite. There is about 2.5 mm of Russia -- or proper

:50:42. > :50:45.before you have the belt that texts the surface of the tyre. Blistering

:50:45. > :50:55.is not a problem, it is when you get down below the top surface,

:50:55. > :50:56.

:50:56. > :51:00.then you have issues. Interestingly, Lewis Hamilton... As the mechanics

:51:00. > :51:05.bolt from the grid. If anybody stalls on the grid, they will be

:51:05. > :51:10.running back out there again. As they make their way back to the

:51:10. > :51:15.pits, Lewis said this morning earlier on "I just want to get to

:51:15. > :51:20.the end of this race. I have not finished here for a while." That is

:51:20. > :51:28.not consistent with attacking like crazy. This is the second DRS zones.

:51:28. > :51:32.It is quite an unusual choice, because there is a curve in it. I

:51:33. > :51:40.wonder why they did not put Ascari down to a parabolic in the next

:51:40. > :51:45.section. Interestingly, it is not the obvious place for a driver. It

:51:45. > :51:48.is not a clear place to have a DRS zones. It would be interesting to

:51:48. > :51:53.speak to Charlie Whiting to explain how they come up with these

:51:53. > :51:57.decisions. It would be a more obvious place, to pick a straight,

:51:57. > :52:04.then there is no ambiguity with drivers weaving to take their

:52:04. > :52:14.natural line. From the Ascari chicane, down to the parabolic.

:52:14. > :52:18.

:52:18. > :52:22.tarmac. It looks lovely. There we have the old historic tarmac. I

:52:22. > :52:32.would love to know when its surface was laid. It could tell a few

:52:32. > :52:32.

:52:32. > :52:41.stories. The last time they changed the tarmac was in 2000. The last

:52:41. > :52:48.time they use the scary bank in was 1961. -- banking. Phil Hill won

:52:48. > :52:53.that race. These drivers, trying to make their mark on the history of

:52:53. > :52:56.Formula One. Burning out their tyres. The drivers of old would be

:52:56. > :53:04.protecting their tyres at this stage. These guys know that they

:53:04. > :53:10.have to get heat and pressure into those tyres. It is a 53 lap race.

:53:10. > :53:15.83% full-throttle as they go around this super high-speed layout. It is

:53:15. > :53:21.a challenge for everybody. They now have to find the perfect biting

:53:21. > :53:26.point of the clutch to get off the line and down to the first corner.

:53:26. > :53:32.The trigger for that is when the five lights go out. We do not

:53:32. > :53:37.bother with the green. They react as soon as they see them disappear.

:53:37. > :53:42.And the Monza race is underway. Wheelspin from Sebastian Vettel.

:53:42. > :53:49.Three of them, side by side. Look at that, Hamilton and Sebastian

:53:49. > :53:53.Vettel touching. Felipe Massa fancies the inside of Hamilton. We

:53:53. > :53:58.have a car approaching sideways, taking two out. I think it is

:53:58. > :54:08.Petrov. Barrichello, two. Three cars out, as we saw somebody

:54:08. > :54:15.arriving sideways. Alonso leads. Hamilton defending against Michael

:54:15. > :54:19.Schumacher. He is ahead. Immediately ahead of Felipe Massa.

:54:19. > :54:23.The safety car is out because the carnage is in the middle of the

:54:23. > :54:33.track. Jenson Button dropped out of the first chicane. Michael

:54:33. > :54:34.

:54:34. > :54:38.Schumacher up to third. We have Liuzzi, Rosberg, Petrov, with a

:54:38. > :54:42.black crash helmet on. Recognising the ice hockey players and others

:54:42. > :54:47.killed in an awful airplane crash earlier on in the week. Rubens

:54:47. > :54:51.Barrichello, trying to get his car starting again. Remarkably, he

:54:51. > :54:58.beached himself, trying to get over the sleeping businessman --

:54:58. > :55:07.sleeping policemen. Was at the Hispania? I think it was Liuzzi. He

:55:07. > :55:10.got a wheel on the grass and lost control. Of course, they are

:55:10. > :55:17.thinking that at least they got through the first turn, but then

:55:17. > :55:27.from nowhere, absolutely nowhere, comes a car to knock them out. The

:55:27. > :55:31.computer is showing for Schumacher third but he is 4th. Felipe Massa,

:55:31. > :55:36.Button. Another tremendous start for Schumacher. He has been the man

:55:36. > :55:39.on the opening laps. Why is that? It is always easier to make lots of

:55:39. > :55:44.positions if you are not qualifying at the front. But does not take

:55:44. > :55:49.anything away from him. The start system on the Mercedes, it will be

:56:31. > :56:37.off the line. Alonso was not as quick. So lucky that Hamilton and

:56:37. > :56:45.Sebastian Vettel did not connect. But look at the back. There is an

:56:45. > :56:52.HRT with its wheels on the grass. No grip. He was going straight to

:57:25. > :57:29.side. Everybody knows that. But look at that, the Wall was coming

:57:29. > :57:37.towards him and he stays absolutely planted, as you would expect. Some

:57:37. > :57:46.nice fresh air. He put a wheel on the grass and momentarily the rpm

:57:46. > :57:50.increased. It shows how tight he was. Here it is Liuzzi, heading for

:57:50. > :57:57.an impact, hoping that he will slot between the cars. Unfortunately,

:57:57. > :58:02.several cars taken out. Rubens Barrichello was unlucky. He managed

:58:17. > :58:27.his nose? It might have been another incident. We have Bruno

:58:27. > :58:28.

:58:28. > :58:33.Senna in the pits. He has got is hard tyres out of the way now. If

:58:33. > :58:36.you're new to Formula One, you will know that they both have to use

:58:42. > :58:49.Grand Prix. Barrichello, back in the pits, and Ricardo, still going

:58:49. > :58:54.around. We have lost Petrov and Liuzzi. Barrichello came in and his

:59:00. > :59:04.Kobayashi can run with soft tyres, as can Bruno Senna. He has got his

:59:10. > :59:18.looks like a damaged HRT. He is retiring. I will check that out

:59:18. > :59:27.because d'Ambrosio was not involved in that accident. The safety car is

:59:27. > :59:31.out. It has only been out three times in the last 10 years. I think

:59:31. > :59:36.there will be some recalculated strategies going on right now.

:59:36. > :59:40.is why they have the supercomputers. Maybe not the small teams, but

:59:40. > :59:45.certainly the main teams will be looking at that on the screen now,

:00:40. > :00:50.Schumacher then punishes Lewis Hamilton for that see the restart.

:00:50. > :00:57.Mark Webber for the Red Bull. Sebastian Vettel again down the

:01:03. > :01:08.having absolutely none of that. know that Sebastian Vettel went

:01:08. > :01:18.with the shorter ratio in qualifying. It was all about

:01:18. > :01:19.

:01:19. > :01:26.getting good race pace. They have more mast to accelerate now was the

:01:26. > :01:36.petrol. Fernando Alonso has got to break the one-second margin of two

:01:36. > :01:40.

:01:40. > :01:46.Sebastian Vettel. Sebastian Vettel it right on the back of Fernando

:01:46. > :01:54.Alonso. But Michael Schumacher having another tremendous start to

:01:54. > :02:04.this Grand Prix. We know that the Mercedes are quick in the straight

:02:04. > :02:10.

:02:10. > :02:20.line. Another contact! Mark Webber has lost his nose. Filipe Massa or

:02:20. > :02:24.

:02:24. > :02:32.pointing the wrong way. Sebastian Vettel has been turning point. That

:02:32. > :02:38.was bravery at 200 miles an hour. Nobody would lift up the throttle,

:02:38. > :02:46.nobody would yield and Sebastian Vettel came out the winner. No we

:02:46. > :02:56.spoke about this in the qualifying show. He was flat on the grass

:02:56. > :02:57.

:02:57. > :03:07.around the outside of Fernando Alonso. We have got yellow flags

:03:07. > :03:10.

:03:10. > :03:17.out at the moment. Jensen Button presumably got held up as little

:03:17. > :03:24.bit. We do not know if Felipe Massa or managed to recover his position.

:03:24. > :03:31.On board with Mark Webber. In a good slipstream. He tries to muscle

:03:41. > :03:44.

:03:54. > :03:57.

:03:57. > :04:07.and damage. Michael Schumacher at looking at second place as well.

:04:07. > :04:10.

:04:10. > :04:19.All the former world champions, they know what it takes. Fernando

:04:19. > :04:29.Alonso just has a little bit of space between them. He was faster

:04:29. > :04:39.

:04:39. > :04:49.is to it -- yesterday in qualifying. Five world champions fill the top

:04:49. > :04:53.

:04:53. > :05:03.five places. DRS has been enabled. That should assist Hamilton. But

:05:03. > :05:08.

:05:08. > :05:18.the Mercedes is so much faster on the straight line. A lot of

:05:18. > :05:23.

:05:23. > :05:33.turbulence on the front wing of that McLaren. Southerly they mass

:05:33. > :05:51.

:05:51. > :05:58.at making his way back, up in 9th for Williams, almost three seconds

:05:58. > :06:02.off the pace of the leaders. Jensen Button beginning to hone in on this

:06:02. > :06:06.fight as they are so busy watching each other that they are losing

:06:06. > :06:16.time. Schumacher goes outside the white lines was DUP you are allowed

:06:16. > :06:18.

:06:18. > :06:28.to do that at this place on the track. Parabolica corner. We have

:06:28. > :06:40.

:06:40. > :06:45.got Mark Webber, a replay of that. No front downforce. And that shows

:06:45. > :06:55.you just how effective those wings are when they are doing their job

:06:55. > :06:56.

:06:56. > :07:04.properly. They are there to push the car into the ground. Mark

:07:04. > :07:09.Webber was racing to get back to the pits. Lewis Hamilton and, for

:07:09. > :07:19.some reason his DRS did not work on that main straight but it is

:07:19. > :07:30.

:07:30. > :07:40.working now. They reckon the DRS is worth about 15 kilometres around

:07:40. > :07:47.

:07:47. > :07:57.here. Lewis Hamilton now has his DRS wide open. Will he remember to

:07:57. > :08:01.

:08:01. > :08:11.use it? Let's see what effect that has. Michael Schumacher in knows he

:08:11. > :08:20.

:08:20. > :08:28.does not have the DRS available. But he does have KERS. The straight

:08:28. > :08:37.speeds look OK. Schumacher is just very high. Explain that one. The

:08:37. > :08:46.guy in front is just a bit quicker! You are not slow, he is fast. But

:08:46. > :08:56.the net result is the same. should have delivered to the old,

:08:56. > :09:06.

:09:06. > :09:16.there is good news...! Such a tricky piece of race track. No DRS

:09:16. > :09:18.

:09:18. > :09:26.down this section. Jensen Button cannot quite join in this battle.

:09:26. > :09:30.Lewis Hamilton it looks better positioned this lap. It is a long

:09:30. > :09:36.way down the straight before up the DRS actually becomes available. Now

:09:36. > :09:46.he has closed it again, what is all that about? We know that McLaren

:09:46. > :10:04.

:10:05. > :10:12.had some issues during practice. They had issues with we attaching

:10:12. > :10:20.the airflow. I wonder if that is why it Lewis Hamilton it was

:10:20. > :10:25.getting it close nice and early. Safety first, playing the long game.

:10:25. > :10:35.Hamilton tries to go on the inside. But Schumacher it with a robust

:10:35. > :10:40.

:10:40. > :10:44.defence. A much better slipstream this time for Hamilton. But there

:10:44. > :10:54.is not enough of a breaking the zone to make the difference down

:10:54. > :11:06.

:11:06. > :11:14.into Parabolica. Hamilton now with his DRS wide open once again.

:11:14. > :11:22.Hamilton is not using his KERS. Is there an issue their? He does have

:11:22. > :11:29.it available but he is choosing where to use it. He is not using it

:11:29. > :11:39.on the main Straits. It is difficult to pool which might be

:11:39. > :11:40.

:11:41. > :11:47.another issue. I think we're seeing Lewis Hamilton catch up so much

:11:47. > :11:52.around here because he is using his KERS and his DRS down at this

:11:52. > :12:02.section. But there is now worth to overtake when you get to the end of

:12:02. > :12:03.

:12:03. > :12:10.it. -- know where to overtake. Perhaps he's just trying to put

:12:10. > :12:20.Michael Schumacher or under pressure. He can hold Michael tight

:12:20. > :12:45.

:12:45. > :12:55.and hope that that makes him slope the limiter. He cannot do anything

:12:55. > :12:59.

:12:59. > :13:04.at the moment about Michael Schumacher. Jensen Button it still

:13:04. > :13:10.as second and a half behind which is surprising me. But you do not

:13:10. > :13:15.want to be right up behind those cars, losing downforce. Over

:13:15. > :13:20.heating the engine. Maybe Jensen Button is just plain the smart game

:13:20. > :13:26.here. He is probably pretty comfortable to let them battle it

:13:26. > :13:35.out. This is a slightly more cautious Lewis Hamilton than we

:13:35. > :13:45.have seen at other Grand Prix. He's going for a very deliberate and

:13:45. > :13:46.

:13:46. > :13:52.very safe overtake. The average speed around this race track is 245

:13:52. > :13:57.kilometres an hour. There are very few breaking stones and he need

:13:57. > :14:00.those 2 euros per wasted kinetic energy. Lewis Hamilton now out of

:14:00. > :14:10.the slipstream of Michael Schumacher. It is just a question

:14:10. > :14:16.now of fool can break the latest. A very tidy, Adlene moved from Lewis

:14:16. > :14:26.Hamilton. But Schumacher or still has that speed, he has the

:14:26. > :14:29.

:14:29. > :14:39.slipstream and to the DRS. Jensen Button are now just joining that

:14:39. > :14:40.

:14:40. > :14:50.party. But Lozelles and really needed to cut that one straight

:14:50. > :14:55.

:14:55. > :15:00.back off again. -- Lewis Hamilton. Lewis Hamilton again trying to get

:15:00. > :15:10.Michael Schumacher have to go defensive. This is going to be

:15:10. > :15:18.

:15:19. > :15:25.overtakes. He is the man who has overtaken most on track this year.

:15:25. > :15:35.And he will have the DRS. Michael Schumacher only has his horse power

:15:35. > :15:35.

:15:36. > :15:42.to defend with. The two are really homing in on third place man

:15:42. > :15:47.Michael Schumacher. He has won the scrum Prix five times, Michael.

:15:47. > :15:54.There are groans of frustration at the McLaren garage. They will have

:15:54. > :16:04.to change their strategy. Michael in third position is holding up the

:16:04. > :16:10.to McLaren's. That is the message to Masser, but Vettel will be

:16:10. > :16:14.absolutely delighted with this. They will say that they have had

:16:14. > :16:24.enough of this. They are going to call one of their drivers in quite

:16:24. > :16:28.

:16:28. > :16:38.soon. Felipe Massa is now up into 6th place. It was smart of

:16:38. > :16:39.

:16:39. > :16:43.Maldonado to let him through and not waste any time. If you are

:16:43. > :16:49.going to be five metres better on the brakes than the driver in front,

:16:49. > :16:59.you need a breaking zone to do it. The principal at Maclaren is

:16:59. > :17:05.

:17:05. > :17:12.watching his two men. 18,000 revs in 7th gear. It is a critical

:17:12. > :17:22.choice of 7th gear ratio that you must make before Saturday morning.

:17:22. > :17:22.

:17:22. > :17:27.They have appeared their car to use all of the rpm without DRS. That

:17:27. > :17:33.means they are just banging up against that it read level. You

:17:33. > :17:38.can't go any faster. Schumacher is struggling to grip on those tyres.

:17:38. > :17:48.This will all be about pit stop strategy and Les Lewis Hamilton and

:17:48. > :17:50.

:17:50. > :17:57.Jenson Button can make this stick on the track. In the lead on lap 15

:17:57. > :18:07.by nine seconds is Sebastien Vettel. Mark Webber is out of the Drumcree

:18:07. > :18:15.in the second to Red Bull. Hamilton is looking up the inside into

:18:15. > :18:21.Parabolica. The activation of DRS is quite a long way down, that is

:18:21. > :18:25.why you will not see it Popeye Open and tell... They are both on it

:18:25. > :18:32.now! Hamilton had to duck back into the slipstream of the Mercedes,

:18:32. > :18:42.that is how fast it is. Steve -- Schumacher has had to go super

:18:42. > :18:52.defensive, slow on the exit. He is on the grass! Sue will give him NO-

:18:52. > :19:04.

:19:04. > :19:12.SPACE a tall. -- Sue or won't give he loses that place. A sporting

:19:12. > :19:15.etiquette, are amongst race drivers, that was right on the limit. Lewis

:19:15. > :19:25.Hamilton has been super clean so far in this race with Michael

:19:25. > :19:27.

:19:27. > :19:36.Schumacher. This may be a chance for Lewis Hamilton on Ascari. He

:19:36. > :19:42.will be furious with Michael. Michael Schumacher is pushing the

:19:42. > :19:50.boundaries of what is correct, and has been doing for several laps now.

:19:50. > :19:55.He is absolutely on the limit. He has gone into the pit. We

:19:55. > :20:01.understood that Hamilton was going to pit that lap. As soon as they

:20:01. > :20:06.got that message, they told him to stay out, no doubt. Michael

:20:06. > :20:15.Schumacher goes on to a brand new set of soft tyres. Take us through

:20:15. > :20:22.this, David. Around Ascari, Michael sees Lewis Hamilton take the inside

:20:22. > :20:26.line, and he chops across him. He takes a tight line on entry. You

:20:26. > :20:35.see how much Lewis had to lift out. That was a heart-stopping moment

:20:35. > :20:42.for Lewis Hamilton. This is a replay. For some reason, it works

:20:42. > :20:51.so much better for Jenson Button to make that move down the outside.

:20:51. > :20:58.Michael Schumacher's tyres were losing him speed. He was working

:20:58. > :21:06.hard to keep that faster Maclaren behind. When he got the opportunity,

:21:06. > :21:16.he was able to make it stick. Sebastian Vettel moves into her lap

:21:16. > :21:29.

:21:29. > :21:37.18. He as at 1:28.6. Jenson Button the pit lane as to how long it took

:21:37. > :21:42.them to do that stop. We can expect Lewis in pretty soon after that, I

:21:42. > :21:49.would imagine. He has a lovely clear space as long as he can stay

:21:49. > :21:56.ahead of that traffic. 3.5 seconds, that stop for Jenson Button, as he

:21:56. > :22:05.makes his way down. They are a long way ahead after all that fighting

:22:05. > :22:10.with Schumacher. We are saying Michael is pushing the boundaries.

:22:10. > :22:16.You can't say he has done anything that would warrant standing outside

:22:16. > :22:25.the headmaster's door yet. Certainly not, but in sporting

:22:25. > :22:28.etiquette amongst racers, that was at the limit. There is a certain

:22:28. > :22:32.etiquette as to how much she would squeeze yourself in as a junction

:22:32. > :22:37.and how much you would give your competitor a bit of a squeeze on

:22:37. > :22:43.the racetrack. You can see Maclaren coming out. This will be for

:22:43. > :22:53.Hamilton. The difference here, of course, you are doing it at 200 mph.

:22:53. > :22:58.

:22:58. > :23:04.This looks like quite a last-minute decision. There are entire lap 19

:23:04. > :23:11.already. A new set of tyres for Lewis Hamilton, and away he goes.

:23:11. > :23:15.It is all about where Jenson Button is, and he is a long way ahead.

:23:15. > :23:21.Michael Schumacher just there to the left. It is all about the

:23:21. > :23:28.breaking. Michael Schumacher takes the position away. That will please

:23:28. > :23:34.Lewis a bunch. A pity it Jenson Button first, and that kept him

:23:34. > :23:42.ahead of Michael, and they pitted Lewis Hamilton next, and that kept

:23:42. > :23:51.him behind. Frustration at McLaren. A lot of this is because they are

:23:51. > :24:01.running this... Do we call it a battle? This is Maldonado, Perez

:24:01. > :24:03.

:24:03. > :24:13.and Argos wiry fighting for 7th. That squabble started at the

:24:13. > :24:20.beginning of this lack. There is Perez, who we think is now our pin

:24:20. > :24:24.28 position. The reason why it McLaren were running that big wing,

:24:24. > :24:29.they thought they would be in a fight with Red Bull which has a

:24:29. > :24:35.Renault engine. They never imagined they would be up against a Mercedes

:24:35. > :24:40.with the same engine that they have. They were always on to a loser, and

:24:40. > :24:49.that is why they have lost out. It will be a massive task far either

:24:49. > :24:56.McLaren to get anywhere near winning this race. That was a 3.0

:24:57. > :25:06.second stop. Yet again it is Michael Schumacher versus Los

:25:07. > :25:09.

:25:09. > :25:13.Hamilton. -- Lewis Hamilton. Still they are side by side, and still

:25:13. > :25:19.Michael Schumacher will not healed, and why should he in that position.

:25:19. > :25:23.He is having to get really defensive, and that is two moves.

:25:23. > :25:28.The rules are clear that you can make one change of direction, and

:25:28. > :25:37.you cannot move back. I am fully expecting to hear a radio message

:25:37. > :25:42.soon. Sebastian Vettel comes into the pits at the beginning of lap 20

:25:42. > :25:50.for soft tyres. He has been absolutely untroubled once he

:25:50. > :25:54.managed to retake the lead after the fast starting Alonso. There was

:25:54. > :26:04.no need to panic or rash or get anything wrong, because he has the

:26:04. > :26:08.

:26:08. > :26:14.whole pit straight to himself. Webber was put out of the race

:26:14. > :26:19.earlier by contact point. Again, bouncing off the limiter in 7th

:26:19. > :26:29.gear. It is going to have to be a brave move that puts Lewis Hamilton

:26:29. > :26:29.

:26:29. > :26:36.passed Michael Schumacher. How far is Jenson Button away? 3.8 seconds.

:26:36. > :26:46.The F I A are aware. Stay with it. That is what we were expecting.

:26:46. > :26:46.

:26:46. > :26:51.What do you think they will do about it? As I was saying, you are

:26:51. > :27:01.only allowed one move, and it is a very clear rule. I can hear all

:27:01. > :27:02.

:27:02. > :27:07.Schumacher's supporters saying that it was fair, but it is not at all.

:27:07. > :27:12.You can make one defensive change of direction. There he is again

:27:12. > :27:17.coming back across at the braking zone. They designed this rule for

:27:17. > :27:23.the safety of the drivers and of the crowd. Yes, and I think he has

:27:23. > :27:33.breached it, not so much there as earlier on. We have Senna and

:27:33. > :27:39.Kobayashi side by side. I am pleased they didn't miss that.

:27:39. > :27:44.Felipe Massa, and Lewis Hamilton has got the inside line. Will

:27:44. > :27:48.Michael Schumacher yield anything here at all? I think Lewis knew he

:27:48. > :27:53.was going to dive into his space, so he wasn't about to put his car

:27:53. > :27:58.there. You have to say, the patience of a saint from Lewis

:27:58. > :28:05.today. He did say he was going to keep an eye on finishing his

:28:05. > :28:15.crockery. He hasn't managed to do so the last couple of years. --

:28:15. > :28:29.

:28:29. > :28:35.that the one under the heading spoilsport? That is probably what

:28:35. > :28:42.Michael Schumacher or is wondering. That is what Lewis Hamilton is

:28:42. > :28:51.saying. It is a fair defence, or is it over the mark? Beyond reasonable

:28:51. > :29:01.driving? Sebastian Vettel has the fastest lap in the ground Prix,

:29:01. > :29:14.

:29:15. > :29:24.1:27. He is now 11. Second -- 11.7 slipstream. Will he try to sell him

:29:25. > :29:31.

:29:31. > :29:39.a dummy? I don't think Michael but Michael won't give him the

:29:39. > :29:49.outside. There are now side by side, and there is no where to go. He is

:29:49. > :29:53.only too well aware of that. And a look at the inside. I sense a

:29:53. > :29:59.little bitter frustration going on there now in that yellow helmet of

:29:59. > :30:09.the McLaren driver. Here is the rule as it is written in the

:30:09. > :30:17.

:30:17. > :30:27.and unaided. Manoeuvres liable to hinder other drivers such as more

:30:27. > :30:37.

:30:37. > :30:44.than one change of direction to defend a position. Deliberate

:30:44. > :30:51.crowding of a car beyond the Bench of the track are not permitted.

:30:51. > :30:58.That has happened a few times. We had an radio message there from the

:30:58. > :31:04.team principal telling Michael to leave him some space. You cannot

:31:04. > :31:11.charge back across the track. You cannot fault Michael's positioning

:31:11. > :31:21.of his car, it is just the way he is moving it about. As a driver

:31:21. > :31:36.

:31:36. > :31:44.would you prefer a direct message? It was just a fairly generic hint.

:31:44. > :31:49.They do not want him to get a drive through penalty. I always wanted my

:31:49. > :31:54.engineer to give me very specific pieces of engineering. Because

:31:54. > :32:02.there's a lot of action, a lot of noise in the car and sometimes it

:32:02. > :32:12.is difficult to filter out the message that you get. Jensen Button

:32:12. > :32:19.

:32:19. > :32:29.honing in now on Fernando Alonso. Lewis Hamilton on the limiter now.

:32:29. > :32:35.

:32:35. > :32:45.They are of course only on a half tank of fuel. Lewis Hamilton is

:32:45. > :32:49.

:32:49. > :32:55.being tentative. Schumacher or release seems to be struggling at

:32:55. > :33:04.this stage with the performance of his car. He just does not have the

:33:04. > :33:10.grip of the McLaren. If a McLaren comes up alongside you you just

:33:10. > :33:15.cannot take the position back, he have to leave some room. So he did

:33:15. > :33:23.understand that message! Lewis Hamilton it is losing one seconds

:33:23. > :33:33.per lap. Jensen Button has just done his personal best of the race.

:33:33. > :33:37.

:33:37. > :33:46.Jensen doing a great job closing in on Fernando Alonso. Jensen Button

:33:46. > :33:52.once again coming alive in the second half of this race. He seems

:33:52. > :34:02.to be finding grip in it wet conditions and he also seems to

:34:02. > :34:07.

:34:07. > :34:14.like these low downforce places. Pastor Maldonado now slipping

:34:14. > :34:18.backwards after that tremendous start. We have a fight between

:34:18. > :34:26.Schumacher and Hamilton. Lewis Hamilton's tyres are going to wear

:34:26. > :34:34.out quicker. RADIO: please make sure you leave room for the car

:34:34. > :34:44.when you move and change direction. A coded message there that they are

:34:44. > :34:45.

:34:45. > :34:55.doing something about this. I think that is a very clear statement

:34:55. > :34:59.

:34:59. > :35:09.there. Michael it is now leaving a lot more space. Michael of course

:35:09. > :35:11.

:35:11. > :35:21.will get as slipstream from the car in front. Lewis Hamilton is on the

:35:21. > :35:24.

:35:24. > :35:33.limiter. Hunting down a feisty Michael Schumacher. He has the car

:35:33. > :35:39.that is fastest on the straight line. We know Lewis Hamilton is

:35:39. > :35:47.going to be massively frustrated. We both know Michael well, how do

:35:47. > :35:50.you think he will receive that message? He is a smart cookie. He

:35:50. > :35:56.has always pushed the boundaries during his career and he has got

:35:56. > :36:00.away with it more often than not. I think he has done that this

:36:00. > :36:08.afternoon that I do not think that a penalty is necessary. Maybe now

:36:08. > :36:15.he has just broken the back of this race. A 4th or even a 5th place for

:36:15. > :36:20.him would be a great result. when Jensen Button got his chance,

:36:20. > :36:26.he took it straight away. We can see a replay now of Hamilton with

:36:26. > :36:36.ever more speed. Has he taken that position? He has indeed. Michael

:36:36. > :36:38.

:36:38. > :36:46.finally yielding to him. So a tremendous exit. And she mucker

:36:46. > :36:56.realised finally that he had to leave that space. -- Schumacher.

:36:56. > :37:05.Getting a great slipstream from Michael. Schumacher now in a

:37:05. > :37:11.comfortable 5th place. And he did backed down a bit. I think he has

:37:11. > :37:17.had enough of that particular fight! It is only a matter of time

:37:17. > :37:27.before he loses that position to Lewis Hamilton. He is now thinking

:37:27. > :37:30.

:37:30. > :37:39.of fending off Felipe Massa. A new battle to look for, Jensen Button

:37:39. > :37:47.versus Fernando Alonso. This race often lasts only one hour and 20

:37:47. > :37:54.minutes. Now we can see some different camera angles of Michael

:37:54. > :38:03.going left to defend and then staying left. That was a clear

:38:04. > :38:09.field. Yes I think Lewis Hamilton it was able to use his DRS more

:38:09. > :38:15.effectively there. So less time on the limiter and in the end I think

:38:15. > :38:25.Michael Schumacher could not defend. We know Mercedes have been

:38:25. > :38:33.

:38:33. > :38:43.struggling a lot with the degradation of their tyres. It

:38:43. > :38:53.costs you dearly around this track if you do not exaggerate quickly

:38:53. > :38:58.

:38:58. > :39:06.enough. Jensen Button has lost a little bit of momentum. A little

:39:06. > :39:11.bit slower than Fernando Alonso on this part of the track. Presumably

:39:11. > :39:21.he is going to be buzzing on the limiter just like his team-mate

:39:21. > :39:26.

:39:26. > :39:35.will stomp --. Keeping an eye on Lewis Hamilton's time. He has just

:39:35. > :39:44.done the fastest middle sector of the entire Grand Prix. Now Hamilton

:39:44. > :39:51.can do something about closing that eight. Five-second gap. I'm down in

:39:51. > :39:57.the Red Bull garage. It is feeling relaxed that Sebastian Vettel has

:39:57. > :40:03.this cushion. Disappointed of course that Mark Webber is out of

:40:03. > :40:13.the race. And the next stop will come in about five or six laps time.

:40:13. > :40:16.

:40:16. > :40:25.The tyres are holding up a lot better than they thought. Ferrari

:40:25. > :40:33.are going to hold out as long as they cannot on the soft tyres. --

:40:33. > :40:43.as they can. Fernando Alonso in its second place.

:40:43. > :40:47.

:40:47. > :40:57.As Sebastian Vettel does a new fastest lap of the race. Alonso has

:40:57. > :41:18.

:41:18. > :41:25.more the problem of Jensen Button closing in. We have 17 miners at

:41:25. > :41:35.the moment out on the race track. We have lost Kobayashi, Mark Webber,

:41:35. > :41:41.

:41:41. > :41:50.Vitali Petrov. On board with the Toro Rosso as they go up to the

:41:50. > :42:00.Force India of Paul di Resta oeuvre. And that was sadly very easy indeed.

:42:00. > :42:07.

:42:07. > :42:15.Different tiers of course on those two cars. Paul di Resta has a fight

:42:15. > :42:25.on his hands to stay in the points. Michael Schumacher is now just the

:42:25. > :42:26.

:42:26. > :42:36.fastest first sector of the Grand Prix. He was sober aggressive

:42:36. > :42:37.

:42:37. > :42:44.against Lewis Hamilton but it seems to have switched around. Schumacher

:42:44. > :42:50.is actually only two seconds behind Lewis Hamilton will stop he is

:42:50. > :42:59.hanging on quite nicely. Keeping the gap back to Felipe Massa. So it

:42:59. > :43:09.is working for him as well. Sebastian Vettel, changes his

:43:09. > :43:21.

:43:21. > :43:31.helmet every race. Choosing to run wide through the exit. The man with

:43:31. > :43:44.

:43:44. > :43:54.259 points. Mark Webber, out of the Grand Prix. You would have to say

:43:54. > :43:59.

:43:59. > :44:06.that Sebastian Vettel pretty much has two hands on that trophy now.

:44:06. > :44:16.Jensen Button falling back a little bit from Fernando Alonso. It was a

:44:16. > :44:19.

:44:19. > :44:26.one-second gap. Now down to 1.6. Mark Webber has been talking to our

:44:26. > :44:31.own Lee Mackenzie. Bad luck. Just talk us through that moves. I got a

:44:31. > :44:36.good run down the straight. Trying to get around the outside and

:44:36. > :44:42.Felipe Massa it was starting to come across. I did not know if he

:44:43. > :44:48.was going to come that far across. And when I got towards the second

:44:48. > :44:53.term I started to belt out of the move. But those curves are so high

:44:53. > :44:58.it just launched the carp and I made contact with him. Then I tried

:44:58. > :45:03.to get back to the pits. I knew that there was some damage but I

:45:03. > :45:09.did not know that the front wing was jammed under the front of the

:45:09. > :45:14.car. Invaluable points lost today. For bit of a dent junior

:45:14. > :45:23.Championship aspirations. What are you aiming for now? I think we are

:45:23. > :45:27.all battling for second place now. Sebastian Vettel needs to have an

:45:27. > :45:32.incredibly disappointing end to this season and for anyone to take

:45:32. > :45:42.the Championship from them at this stage. A missed opportunity for me

:45:42. > :45:45.

:45:45. > :45:47.but I will come back in its Nearly a missed opportunity for

:45:47. > :45:57.Nearly a missed opportunity for Barrichello to get into the pits

:45:57. > :45:58.

:45:58. > :46:08.there. And that will have cost Jenson Button and his gap to

:46:08. > :46:12.

:46:12. > :46:17.Fernando Alonso. Ted has got some news as we just watched Massa.

:46:17. > :46:23.Breathing space, David. You are absolutely right, and that is what

:46:23. > :46:26.Ferrari are concerned about. I just went in there to ask how Alonso's

:46:26. > :46:32.race is going, and they are worried about whether he is going to keep

:46:32. > :46:41.his place on the podium, so they can see that the McLaren's are

:46:41. > :46:47.gaining on him. Alonso comes into the pit. Yellow flags out as they

:46:47. > :46:54.clear. A good pit-stop again for Ferrari as we now await Lewis

:46:54. > :47:04.Hamilton into his human garage. The car is boiling hot, the brakes at

:47:04. > :47:05.

:47:05. > :47:12.nearly 1,000 Celsius, the engine at over 125 centigrade. He is now

:47:12. > :47:21.again and behind Barrichello. A fresh set of tyres. Will that get

:47:21. > :47:29.into the end of the Grand Prix? should do. So we are not expecting

:47:29. > :47:36.any more pit stops at the front of the field. He is actually even

:47:36. > :47:44.closer to Alonso then he was before the pit stop. They are both on the

:47:44. > :47:50.Prime hard Tyre, so everything that went to before. They have also got

:47:50. > :47:57.less fuel. And the team are ready to welcome Sebastien Vettel. No

:47:57. > :48:03.pressure during this stop. There are really getting that fine-tuned

:48:03. > :48:09.now towards the end of the season. They are coming out of Ascari as

:48:09. > :48:14.Vettel is coming out of the pit lane. Ferrari historically this

:48:14. > :48:22.year have not been giving as hard a tyre. Mark Webber is reflecting on

:48:22. > :48:32.what might have been. Fernando Alonso, Jenson Button, tickling it

:48:32. > :48:32.

:48:32. > :48:37.-- typically not as good on the harder tyres. You fancy, then, that

:48:37. > :48:45.Jenson Button has got a very good chance of taking second place at

:48:45. > :48:55.this stage. If past performance is any bearing on future success, yes.

:48:55. > :48:56.

:48:56. > :49:03.Well Fernando come back at him? Surely an error there from Alonso?

:49:03. > :49:10.He has got no traction, it seems to me. Very poor traction on this

:49:10. > :49:17.harder compound tyre, which they always say really hurts Ferrari.

:49:17. > :49:21.But it is very soft rubber compared to what we used to run. They appear

:49:21. > :49:26.to have issued heating their tyres, and we are seeing it played out

:49:26. > :49:36.there. Jenson Button takes advantage of the slipstream of the

:49:36. > :49:37.

:49:37. > :49:47.Lotus years lapping. -- he is lapping. 12 the position at the

:49:47. > :49:48.

:49:48. > :49:56.moment, and that could be the best result for Lotus this year.

:49:56. > :50:03.tyres come out of the blankets at 100 degrees. Michael Schumacher

:50:03. > :50:08.presumably does have to stop again to put a harder tyres on. Button is

:50:08. > :50:17.15.6 seconds off the lead. How do you start putting red bull under

:50:17. > :50:22.pressure? You say the tyres come out of the blankets at 100 degrees,

:50:22. > :50:28.but it is a bit like wearing a pair of jeans. He have got to get them

:50:28. > :50:35.on the track, stretch the tyre, move the side wall. Lean against

:50:35. > :50:42.them under braking, before they really give you the performance.

:50:42. > :50:48.do think that is a great analogy. I know exactly what you mean.

:50:48. > :50:58.Schumacher here in second place at the moment, a bit out of kilter

:50:58. > :50:58.

:50:58. > :51:02.with his tyres, he has to come in again and put the Prime tyres on.

:51:02. > :51:08.There have been plenty of different strategies. But we are certain

:51:08. > :51:18.Michael has to pick a game, and here he comes, out of second place.

:51:18. > :51:28.It should put him somewhere very close to Hamilton again, actually.

:51:28. > :51:30.

:51:30. > :51:40.And there is a big gap back to Schumacher from there. -- back to

:51:40. > :51:46.Alguersuari from there. It wouldn't have been a big step by Mercedes to

:51:46. > :51:51.put them side-by-side Again. Hamilton over break himself! He was

:51:51. > :51:57.so excited to still be in front of Michael Schumacher. So how has this

:51:57. > :52:05.all shaken out? Sebastien Vettel leads by 15.6 seconds from Jenson

:52:05. > :52:15.Button, about a second ahead of Alonso in third. Masseur is up to

:52:15. > :52:16.

:52:16. > :52:26.4th, do arrested just outside the top 10. Maldonado has pitted in

:52:26. > :52:32.

:52:32. > :52:39.on the set of hard tyres from the start, and the team think he could

:52:39. > :52:49.have been on for 7th or 8th, so a shame for him. The cyber team

:52:49. > :52:50.

:52:50. > :52:58.looked very good on Friday. -- the Sauber team. Alonso is definitely

:52:58. > :53:07.holding on to Button better than we thought he might. Maybe those tyres

:53:07. > :53:15.are now coming to him. You can see some debris from earlier on in the

:53:15. > :53:25.race, you don't want to run over that and cut your tyres. If the

:53:25. > :53:26.

:53:26. > :53:29.race finished now, Sebastian Vettel would have pay 112 point lead. And

:53:29. > :53:38.it is a different person who keeps finishing well behind him in terms

:53:38. > :53:43.of those pursuing him, and he wins each one. So he has built up a full

:53:43. > :53:53.league. Felipe Massa there is behind him, but has only pitted

:53:53. > :53:56.

:53:56. > :54:03.once. How did you read that with Mark Webber? I think that Felipe

:54:03. > :54:10.Massa were left in plenty of space on the way into the chicane. I

:54:10. > :54:14.think I would have had the tendency to just try to cut to the left. I

:54:15. > :54:19.think Mark just didn't expect it, and by the time he made the

:54:20. > :54:27.decision to try to stay on the track, he just got launched into

:54:27. > :54:37.the back of Felipe Massa's car. didn't play out as he expected. You

:54:37. > :54:51.

:54:51. > :55:00.have to keep your guard and hope be the seventh consecutive race

:55:00. > :55:10.that a driver who drops out in the early part of qualifying ends up

:55:10. > :55:24.

:55:24. > :55:34.scoring championship points? He has locked up the rear axle. He is 17

:55:34. > :55:35.

:55:35. > :55:40.seconds behind Alguersuari. Bruno Senna up into 9th place. He is

:55:40. > :55:48.lapping slightly faster than Maldonado. Still plenty of action

:55:48. > :55:54.to come. Sebastian Vettel is just handling him, every time Jenson

:55:54. > :56:04.Button does a fast lap, Sebastian Vettel El response in the lead to

:56:04. > :56:10.

:56:10. > :56:20.keep the lead. -- responds in the At the moment, the fastest is

:56:20. > :56:22.

:56:22. > :56:32.1:26.09. That is with KERS, with DRS and with Pirelli tyres. So they

:56:32. > :56:35.

:56:35. > :56:45.are going a lot slower this year engineers are saying these are very

:56:45. > :56:52.

:56:52. > :57:02.soft tyres. That is a very clean pass there. Buemi has pitted from

:57:02. > :57:02.

:57:02. > :57:07.8th, Senna from 9th. He had that damaged wing earlier on, and it is

:57:07. > :57:12.the soft tyres that have gone on for Senna. I think we are going to

:57:12. > :57:22.see a very good fight the seventh, 8th, 9th, 10th and possibly even

:57:22. > :57:23.

:57:23. > :57:29.11th. Maldonado, Barrichello is a long way behind in 12th. Ricardo

:57:29. > :57:39.his 16th. Some 14 laps behind the leader, but still running his

:57:39. > :57:39.

:57:39. > :57:48.Daniel Ricciardo. A three-second stop for Ferrari again. 2.9 is the

:57:48. > :57:56.quickest we have seen. Felipe Massa wants to use both compounds of

:57:56. > :58:02.tyres. He always seems to be on for a good result, but then something

:58:02. > :58:06.weird happens or he gets himself into a bit of a mischief. That is

:58:06. > :58:12.what happens when you are not at the front of the field. Sebastian

:58:12. > :58:17.Vettel leads by 15.8 seconds over Jenson Button. Fernando Alonso his

:58:17. > :58:26.third, and he is 7.5 seconds ahead of Lewis Hamilton in 4th. It is a

:58:26. > :58:31.tall order for Lewis to make that up. Sadly for him. He is the

:58:31. > :58:40.fastest man on the track without this bit of traffic, but he needs

:58:40. > :58:47.to find his way through. Sebastian Vettel has not been troubled since

:58:47. > :58:53.he retook the lead after Alonso's start. After that, it was really

:58:53. > :59:00.about who could negotiate Michael Schumacher, and particularly the

:59:00. > :59:06.incredible fight between him and Lewis Hamilton that was tough

:59:06. > :59:10.racing in the extreme, no doubt about that. No contact, as it

:59:10. > :59:14.happens. Jenson Button cruised up in the melee and made his way past

:59:14. > :59:18.both of them, and that has made the difference for him. That gave him

:59:18. > :59:23.the chance to take Alonso in that tyre stop phase, and he is

:59:23. > :59:29.comfortably ahead of Hamilton. He didn't drop behind Schumacher again

:59:29. > :59:36.at the next stop. That was a pivotal lap or two. That is what

:59:36. > :59:45.has got him up in a comfortable second place. Another great weekend

:59:45. > :59:50.for Jenson Button. He is a little behind in qualifying, but it hasn't

:59:50. > :59:54.made much of the difference as to who was on pole position. He looked

:59:54. > :59:59.like he was struggling in the early stages of the race, but I suspect

:59:59. > :00:05.he was just keeping his tyres under control, watching the fight in

:26:18. > :26:18.

:26:18. > :26:24.third today, and they love him. Yet again, a brilliant and faultless

:26:28. > :26:36.in Singapore, but meanwhile, we have a celebration going on here in

:26:36. > :26:41.Monza. Judging by the sound of the crowd, you would have thought that

:26:41. > :26:47.Fernando Alonso had just one that, but it is Sebastian Vettel, three

:26:47. > :26:52.years to the day since he picked up his first winner in Grand Prix. He

:26:52. > :26:57.can't be crowned champion when we had to Singapore in two weeks'. It

:26:57. > :27:01.has been a very special weekend all round for that young man. Yes, and

:27:01. > :27:05.I think the reason he is emotional, at the beginning of the season he

:27:05. > :27:12.would never have put this down as a possible winner. He wouldn't even

:27:12. > :27:16.have done that last week for two weeks ago. I think the team have

:27:16. > :27:21.got this car on a new level, and the rest of the teams need to watch

:27:21. > :27:28.out. And surely that is the greatest podium position in Formula

:27:28. > :27:31.One. People have said that Sebastian Vettel can't overtake, he

:27:31. > :27:40.can't race. But I think he has proved that when he needs to, he

:27:40. > :27:50.can. I don't know where we kick- start these people into, but look

:27:50. > :27:58.

:27:58. > :28:03.have been the end of his race, just like Webber. This is bravery at its

:28:03. > :28:07.extreme, and it is fantastic to watch. We spoke before the race

:28:07. > :28:12.about how the car was set up, and we knew he didn't have a top speed

:28:12. > :28:18.advantage, and if he was stuck in traffic, he would not have had the

:28:18. > :28:25.advantage. We are all clutching at straws here, because I think he

:28:25. > :28:29.does have the speed advantage. Look at how he pulled away. Look at how

:28:29. > :28:37.many laps Lewis Hamilton spent behind Alonso, Schumacher,

:28:37. > :28:42.everybody. There is no hiccup in this red bull calf. I cannot see

:28:42. > :28:47.anyone touching him for the remainder of the season. This man

:28:47. > :28:51.is just dominating Formula One at the moment. It is hard when someone

:28:51. > :28:59.is in the middle of their career to ask whether we are seeing a legend

:28:59. > :29:02.being born. How good you think he is? You have to look at the DNA.

:29:02. > :29:09.His junior racing was exemplary. You then see him coming across in a

:29:09. > :29:13.car that has not a hope of winning a race, he did that three years ago

:29:13. > :29:19.with Toro Rosso. Andy has gone on to prove to us each and every time

:29:19. > :29:22.that he is about to emerge. Michael Schumacher needs to go in his

:29:22. > :29:29.rocking chair in time to come and say, good God, there is that

:29:29. > :29:32.Sebastian Vettel, and years now the ninth world champion shop -- he has

:29:32. > :29:37.now won at nine world championships, and everybody thought my seven

:29:37. > :29:42.couldn't be beaten. Well, he looks a long way from the rocking chair

:29:42. > :29:46.at the moment. The home fans have had a fair bit to cheer about, they

:29:46. > :29:52.had a man on the podium, and a great start from Fernando Alonso.

:29:52. > :29:56.This was bravery at its extreme. Lewis doesn't know which way to go.

:29:56. > :30:05.The one thing he doesn't want is a repeat performance with Kobayashi

:30:09. > :30:13.I don't know what was going on with this car. They seemed to put a

:30:13. > :30:18.Gurney on the rear of the ring, a reverse Gurney which amassed a

:30:18. > :30:24.check-up on what the real value of that is, because it didn't seem to

:30:24. > :30:28.work. And wasn't that special? He stuck his foot on the accelerator

:30:28. > :30:38.and held it there, and he took the lead. His star started to fade

:30:38. > :30:39.

:30:39. > :30:44.towards the end, but he took a How nerve-racking were the last few

:30:44. > :30:49.mat -- last few laps? Today, Red Bull were stronger. Congratulations

:30:49. > :30:55.to them. They did an exceptional job. McLaren were strong but we

:30:55. > :30:58.were able to be in front of them. Difficult, a difficult race. I'm

:30:58. > :31:05.sorry for Felipe Massa because without that touch, he could have

:31:05. > :31:13.been there. And did Michael Schumacher do you a favour by

:31:13. > :31:17.holding up a McLaren? He was just doing his race. Well done.

:31:17. > :31:21.Congratulations to Ferrari. You can see the car has been pushed down to

:31:21. > :31:28.the garages. Michael Schumacher, we mentioned in there. A great drive

:31:28. > :31:30.today. He could not retain his body in position. The question everyone

:31:30. > :31:37.in position. The question everyone is asking, did he drive safely and

:31:37. > :31:43.correctly? Let us look at this again. The rules are clear. You

:31:43. > :31:49.cannot move twice. Everyone has the same vision as we have. It is a

:31:49. > :31:54.matter of opinion. I think that it certainly is questionable. There is

:31:54. > :31:58.one, and he comes across. I am sorry, on a particular case, if I

:31:58. > :32:03.was a judge, I would reprimand him. I would want to know why he did it.

:32:03. > :32:07.He will say that he moved on to the racing line but he did move twice.

:32:07. > :32:12.Lewis Hamilton's few of the same incident. Someone came up to me and

:32:12. > :32:17.said "If it was Lewis Hamilton doing those moves, he would have

:32:17. > :32:22.been up before the FIA." Let us not get into that. We do not want to

:32:22. > :32:27.get into the realm of paranoia. Yes, Lewis Hamilton seems to think he is

:32:27. > :32:34.victimised. But here is a situation, we know how hard Michael Schumacher

:32:34. > :32:42.races. In the old days, when you passed him, then you knew what you

:32:42. > :32:45.were into -- then you knew what you were in for. We are expecting a

:32:45. > :32:50.little bit of Ross Brawn talking to Michael Schumacher but we could not

:32:50. > :32:53.hear from them. We heard from him during the race, he was the man

:32:53. > :33:00.charged with selling Michael Schumacher to watch is driving

:33:00. > :33:03.around the chicane. Let us hear around the chicane. Let us hear

:33:03. > :33:12.from them. -- hear from them. entertaining race. Take us through

:33:12. > :33:16.it. Deeply disappointed at the start, because we had a different

:33:16. > :33:20.approach with Nico Rosberg. It would have been interesting to see

:33:20. > :33:23.what could have happened with that. That was frustrating, but Michael

:33:23. > :33:27.drove a fantastic race. We do not drove a fantastic race. We do not

:33:27. > :33:30.have the fastest car, but he drove a fantastic race. The last couple

:33:30. > :33:36.of races, we have seen all the things that we know about Michael

:33:36. > :33:45.Schumacher. They played your instructions to him on the team

:33:45. > :33:49.radio. Charlie Whiting had a word with you, too, and down? Yes, -- to

:33:49. > :33:53.calm him down. Yes, they were asking us to be more careful. It is

:33:53. > :33:59.a balance between racing and not overstepping the mark. Charlie

:33:59. > :34:06.asked us to make sure he left room for Lewis. Great racing, fantastic.

:34:06. > :34:14.Really exciting. What happened in the end? Did Michael go wide? He

:34:14. > :34:20.seems to let Lewis Baston. -- let Lewis pass him. He hit the limiter

:34:20. > :34:24.and had a slow gear change. He missed a gear change. It would have

:34:24. > :34:30.been interesting to see how long that would have gone on. But a

:34:30. > :34:34.that would have gone on. But a little mistake let him through.

:34:34. > :34:39.Plenty of entertainment for Ross Brawn. Plenty of entertainment for

:34:39. > :34:42.these fans. All things considered, considering we were talking about

:34:42. > :34:50.the DRS, is it too much, we ended up with the race that was pretty

:34:50. > :34:54.interesting. It is usually interesting but it was frustrating

:34:54. > :34:58.that Sebastian Vettel was on a different planet. If you cannot

:34:58. > :35:06.have a fight at the front, it is good to have a race all the way

:35:06. > :35:11.back. We saw a dish worry, and di Resta, but at the front, Sebastian

:35:11. > :35:18.Vettel did a good job. He was in a league of his own. It was a shame

:35:18. > :35:27.it was so one-sided, the McLaren drivers, interesting to see them

:35:27. > :35:35.looking kg. That is not their natural position. Who is the team

:35:36. > :35:39.leader, said Jenson Button? I and the team leader, he said. Lewis

:35:39. > :35:48.Hamilton thinks he is also the team leader, but he was making his point.

:35:48. > :35:52.He is the boss, and he demonstrated that today. These guys spend a lot

:35:52. > :36:01.of money coming to these races and all they were given today was

:36:01. > :36:07.really special. Nobody could touch Sebastian Vettel. Let us hear from

:36:07. > :36:13.them. A great win. Made possible by that

:36:13. > :36:19.overtake. Some tears on the podium? Yes, very emotional. This circuit

:36:19. > :36:24.means a lot to me and it has been very special. One across the line,

:36:24. > :36:31.I remembered every single bed. The podium is unbelievable, when you

:36:31. > :36:38.stand up there. You feel so blessed, because it does not happen to so

:36:38. > :36:46.many people. Coming all the way, it is filled with people. It is

:36:46. > :36:51.unbelievable. The circuit has been tough for us, to be competitive. To

:36:51. > :36:57.come back this year, really, the car was amazing in qualifying. Even

:36:57. > :37:02.better in the race. The start was not that good, I do not know where

:37:02. > :37:08.Fernando was coming from. It took me a while to understand that there

:37:08. > :37:12.was three of us alongside one another. He did not give me much

:37:12. > :37:17.room to pass him. I do not know if he believed I was on that side. I

:37:17. > :37:23.was on the grass, but it was just enough. Very enjoyable. After that,

:37:23. > :37:28.the car was fantastic. It was a great race for us. 150 years of

:37:28. > :37:33.Italy, it makes it special for the people here. Thank you to the fans.

:37:33. > :37:41.Obviously, all the Italian people were cheering more last time, but

:37:41. > :37:47.yeah, it is very special to me. Jenson, you apprise you battle with

:37:47. > :37:56.Fernando, but you come out in front. -- You Read Prize to you're battle.

:37:56. > :38:00.It was fun, fighting with Lewis, Michael and Fernando. It was a good

:38:00. > :38:10.race. It was always going to be very difficult. We were in 7th at

:38:10. > :38:11.

:38:11. > :38:15.one point. But a lot of fun. The atmosphere here is fantastic. It is

:38:15. > :38:20.electric. Another good race, and we just have to get everything

:38:20. > :38:26.together on race weekend. Hopefully we will be challenging Red Bull and

:38:26. > :38:30.Sebastien. Great job by the whole team. You said before the race,

:38:30. > :38:35.Fernando, but the start would be crucial. Have you ever had a better

:38:35. > :38:45.start than that? We have had some good starts in the last couple of

:38:45. > :38:46.

:38:46. > :38:56.Grand Prixs. Standing in six, there is no room to overtake. There was

:38:56. > :39:03.the feeling of a good start. We maximised the potential in our

:39:03. > :39:07.start, and we were leading the race. But obviously, we were not

:39:08. > :39:12.competitive enough to fight for victory, so we tried to manage the

:39:12. > :39:19.podium possibility. I was very close at the end, but it was a

:39:19. > :39:28.fantastic race. A fantastic feeling. As Sebastian mentioned, up here in

:39:28. > :39:32.Monza, the fans are very passionate, with their emotions. Well done to

:39:32. > :39:40.the whole team. It was a stressful weekend with lots of pressure for

:39:40. > :39:46.them. I think we managed to the race in the best situation possible.

:39:46. > :39:50.-- managed the race. With Mark Webber retiring, and McLaren behind

:39:50. > :39:54.us, I think it is a great achievement. Before the race, the

:39:54. > :39:58.talk was of the gamble you're taking on the given. You must be

:39:58. > :40:08.concerned when you found yourself behind Fernando. -- on the Deering.

:40:08. > :40:16.I do not think we to Kenny gambles. The gears were probably shorter

:40:16. > :40:21.than the rest of the field. -- took any gambles. We cannot use the

:40:21. > :40:27.speed. Before the race, we were pretty confident. We were not

:40:27. > :40:33.afraid of these ers -- afraid of the DRS zones. I think it worked

:40:33. > :40:37.fantastically well. We were able to pass Fernanda without that ers. But

:40:37. > :40:43.even with that, it would have been more comfortable later. All in all,

:40:43. > :40:50.I think we did the right thing. It was a great race car with great

:40:50. > :40:54.speed. I think that he rain was just right. -- the Deering.

:40:54. > :40:58.message from Red Bull, told you so. message from Red Bull, told you so.

:40:58. > :41:03.Sebastian Vettel, 25 points once again. The drivers battle, this is

:41:03. > :41:13.how it looks. Fernando Alonso finishing on the podium. Michael

:41:13. > :41:14.

:41:15. > :41:18.Schumacher involved in a great battle. Felipe Massa finished 6th.

:41:18. > :41:26.Pastor Maldonado was running high for a time. Finishing just outside

:41:26. > :41:30.the points. Heikki Kovalainen's best finish of the season. And the

:41:30. > :41:35.guys they did not finish. Most of this caused by the man who started

:41:35. > :41:39.slipping around at the very beginning and ended up crashing

:41:39. > :41:46.into two cars. Nico Rosberg in the middle of that thanks to Liuzzi

:41:46. > :41:56.taking them out. And this is how would looks in the driver's

:41:56. > :42:11.

:42:11. > :42:17.Sebastian Vettel could be the champion. Red Bull, as far as the

:42:17. > :42:19.Constructors' Championship are Constructors' Championship are

:42:19. > :42:23.concerned, are very close. Christian Horner joins us,

:42:23. > :42:29.alongside David Coulthard. Congratulations. Once again, it was

:42:29. > :42:36.a good and bad day. Talking about the goods. Was the plan to run and

:42:36. > :42:41.hide with Sebastian Vettel? He has been unbelievable. It has been a

:42:41. > :42:46.fantastic race. Anyone who thinks he cannot overtake, he completely

:42:46. > :42:51.disproved that. Unbelievable to win in Monza. We did not expect that

:42:51. > :42:56.result. It was a dominant driver of. I am curious to know, how we deal

:42:56. > :42:59.with mixed emotions? Sebastian is getting closer to the world

:42:59. > :43:09.championships, but Mark Webber, that incident at the Parabolica a,

:43:09. > :43:10.

:43:10. > :43:13.do you let them take some time? They are both mature guys. I think

:43:13. > :43:20.they put it into perspective. We lost a team member earlier this

:43:20. > :43:24.week after a brave fight against cancer. That kind of thing has put

:43:24. > :43:31.things into perspective. This result, we would like to dedicate

:43:31. > :43:36.that to her and her family. Our guys, they're both fighters. Mark,

:43:36. > :43:38.he will be disappointed and frustrated but he will bounce back.

:43:38. > :43:44.He is determined to get back to winning ways and hopefully he can

:43:44. > :43:49.do that in the near future. Earlier on, I said that if you were to pick

:43:49. > :43:54.out two races that you were least likely to win, it would be Spa and

:43:54. > :43:59.Monza. When did the development start to turn this around? We put a

:43:59. > :44:09.lot of effort into this package for Monza. The aerodynamic guys and the

:44:09. > :44:13.design guys have done a great job. It is testimony to that hard work

:44:13. > :44:17.that we have managed to come here and be quick at the two races and

:44:17. > :44:21.won them both. On paper, they should have been our worst.

:44:21. > :44:26.your job now is to come Sebastian Vettel down to do the business in

:44:26. > :44:30.Singapore. And Brad PUP Mark Webber. We will look at the incident ended

:44:30. > :44:37.his race. What would you be saying to him after he had another

:44:37. > :44:42.struggle? We have the incident at the first corner, and he lost his

:44:42. > :44:46.wing. He was trying to get back to their pits. It was just unfortunate.

:44:46. > :44:52.He knew he needed to make ground quickly. He came from a long way

:44:52. > :44:58.back. He went to the outside, and it was very tight. He ran out of

:44:58. > :45:03.room. It was a racing incident. There is no way through on that

:45:03. > :45:08.outside corner. I think you are relying on Felipe Massa to be co-

:45:08. > :45:13.operative, which he does not need to be. It is a racing incident.

:45:13. > :45:23.Congratulations today. Send our condolences to Aaron's family on

:45:23. > :45:24.

:45:24. > :45:32.One man who was desperate to be on that podium but couldn't quite do

:45:32. > :45:37.it was Lewis Hamilton. Let's hear from him. Lewis, from three abreast

:45:37. > :45:45.at the start, to just missing out. Was this a great race, or a missed

:45:45. > :45:55.opportunity? It was a great race. I got some point and I finished.

:45:55. > :45:58.much happened. Tell us about the restart. Michael was on the outside

:45:58. > :46:06.of me, so I was looking at him in my mirrors, and then before I knew

:46:06. > :46:11.it, the guys had gone. I missed an opportunity to slipstream Sebastien,

:46:11. > :46:19.but once I finally got past, I was able to chase them down, and I had

:46:19. > :46:27.fun chasing Fernando. Did you think that Michael Schumacher's racing

:46:27. > :46:35.was all clean and fair? At one point he were on the grass. It was

:46:35. > :46:40.fine. And do you think he adhered to the rules? Sure. And going into

:46:40. > :46:47.the next long-haul? Yes, I am looking forward to the next couple

:46:47. > :46:51.of races, when we go away overseas. It is going to be exciting, we have

:46:51. > :46:56.six races left, we will continue to push, and I hope we are able to get

:46:56. > :47:03.a couple more wins for the team. Were you racing the wrong team in

:47:03. > :47:08.some way today? We focusing on Red Bull? We weren't focusing on anyone.

:47:08. > :47:11.That was as fast as we could go. We just lost a little bit on the

:47:11. > :47:18.straights, that is why I couldn't pass Michael. But otherwise it was

:47:18. > :47:26.pretty good. Lewis not being drawn there on the

:47:26. > :47:33.Michael Schumacher situation. Very restrained. We are used to

:47:33. > :47:43.sundering guts from Lois, and we didn't see that today. -- thunder

:47:43. > :47:46.

:47:46. > :47:51.and guts. I felt it was a much more controlled. You cannot have Mona

:47:51. > :47:59.when he is full of beans, and then complain he is lacklustre when he

:48:00. > :48:05.is in control. I didn't say that! So, Lewis was being very well

:48:05. > :48:11.behaved. Was sue macro? I think he pushed the boundaries, as he always

:48:11. > :48:21.has done. Lowest Mader the move, and Michael turned up early to

:48:21. > :48:25.defend it. And, you know, the rules are very clear. We saw him cried

:48:25. > :48:31.Rubens Barrichello towards the wall in Hungary last year, and I think

:48:31. > :48:38.that was potentially another one of those situations. You don't often

:48:38. > :48:46.hear Ross Brawn telling him. Here is the second chicane, and getting

:48:46. > :48:52.out of it. It was a great race in the end. I don't think it needs to

:48:52. > :48:56.go to the stewards, but that is absolutely on the limit. What would

:48:57. > :49:03.you have done if you were the team boss? We know what to expect from

:49:03. > :49:07.Michael. He is a tough campaigner and always has been. But I gather

:49:07. > :49:12.what would have happened is that if the team reported it to the

:49:12. > :49:18.stewards, particularly Charlie Whiting initially, and they would

:49:18. > :49:23.have taken a look. Very clearly, it is not the Engineer who was talking

:49:23. > :49:29.to Michael, it is Ross Brawn. So that is the significant difference

:49:29. > :49:34.for me. You know you are being told what to do. It is a coded message

:49:34. > :49:39.not to do that again will we will get a penalty. I think that is why

:49:39. > :49:47.Ross did it, because it was that serious. So when you heard from

:49:48. > :49:52.Eddie, you knew it was serious? tried not to hear from Eddie.

:49:52. > :49:58.was a fantastic start. He was always potentially gain to end up

:49:58. > :50:02.with that result. He doesn't need to get involved in that. We are

:50:02. > :50:08.celebrating what a great racing driver, what a great racing season

:50:08. > :50:11.he is having. It is a shame. Perhaps we should still celebrate

:50:11. > :50:19.the fact that it was a great drive by Michael Schumacher. He finished

:50:19. > :50:24.in 5th. Here is his take. Michael, another great start. Indeed, yes.

:50:24. > :50:28.It was a fun afternoon. Tell us about the battle with Lewis

:50:29. > :50:34.Hamilton. He was saying on his radio, one move. Was your racing

:50:34. > :50:38.clean and fair? I think so. I felt that I did exactly what I was

:50:38. > :50:45.supposed to do, and as far as I was concerned, there was no request for

:50:45. > :50:51.me to see the stewards, so I guess all is in order. At some point, you

:50:51. > :50:55.were running in a good position. Where was that lost? I think the

:50:55. > :50:59.start was tremendous, and that is where we sort of picked up the

:50:59. > :51:04.positions, but it was a kind of dream to stay, but the dream

:51:04. > :51:12.becomes reality when you start racing these guys, and they are

:51:12. > :51:16.just enough quick to pass. Even with only 20 laps to go, Lewis was

:51:16. > :51:20.able to pull a gap of 15 seconds, so you can see that the speed of

:51:20. > :51:26.the car is unfortunately quick enough that we can't really keeping

:51:26. > :51:30.behind us. The last couple of races would indicate that it is coming

:51:30. > :51:38.together at Mercedes. It is certainly the nature of the track

:51:38. > :51:41.here. It is the major point why we look better. But we keep on

:51:41. > :51:47.improving, and we will hopefully improve a bit further for the next

:51:47. > :51:54.coming races. Hopefully we can at least get closer to the front. It

:51:54. > :51:58.is certainly more fun to be where we are now than where we have been.

:51:58. > :52:02.After the Hungarian Grand Prix, he wasn't a very apologetic for his

:52:02. > :52:10.driving, and a couple of races later he apologised. Perhaps he

:52:10. > :52:13.will look back at the Tate? I don't think so. That is his style. And I

:52:13. > :52:17.would prefer him to drive for the authority and aggression, because

:52:18. > :52:23.for the last year prior to this, we didn't always see it, and I have

:52:23. > :52:26.seen an emerging, new Michael Schumacher. One man who has asked

:52:26. > :52:33.for aggression from the team is Bruno Senna. I don't think they

:52:33. > :52:37.will be hard on you tonight. You had a strong race pace. It was a

:52:37. > :52:45.good race. I was in the wrong place at the wrong time on the first

:52:45. > :52:53.corner. It wasted all my hard work in qualifying. But the team did a

:52:53. > :52:57.good strategy, and that was that. We were fighting for positions

:52:57. > :53:03.right from the back, and got into the points, so that is a good

:53:03. > :53:08.feeling. I would like to know, you have driven for one of the new

:53:08. > :53:12.teams, and you are now with that the more established teams. We're

:53:12. > :53:16.trying to find out what is it required, the teams used to drive

:53:16. > :53:24.for, how will they get to where you are now? I think they have to grow

:53:24. > :53:29.a lot. Experience counts for a lot in this sport. For the drivers, it

:53:29. > :53:34.is important to be able to have a car that shows the potential. So

:53:34. > :53:41.being here in this team makes me be able to have some strong races, and

:53:41. > :53:44.hopefully a nice platform for the future. Bruno, I said during the

:53:44. > :53:51.commentary that this is your chance to show Renault Europe potential

:53:52. > :53:58.team leader in the future, so you needed to write his well. -- you

:53:58. > :54:04.are a potential team leader. Tour Carson through these images. --

:54:04. > :54:11.talk us through these images. was very fast on the straights. I

:54:11. > :54:19.had to take Parabolica absolutely perfectly. I was behind for a long

:54:19. > :54:25.time. It was good fun. But if I had a bit more free air, maybe I would

:54:25. > :54:31.have got another few points. But I am happy we managed to get into the.

:54:31. > :54:36.Today. Can you believe your luck? It was only two weeks ago that you

:54:36. > :54:40.were sitting thinking you might not get another drive this year, and

:54:40. > :54:45.now here you are. You have raced at Monza, and picked up some points.

:54:45. > :54:53.You are right back in the heart of Formula One, having been absolutely

:54:53. > :54:57.nowhere. Some guys need a break, as well. In a very short time, I was

:54:57. > :55:01.competing with much more experienced drivers. Being

:55:01. > :55:07.competitive was never a problem, but get into Formula One was very

:55:07. > :55:12.difficult, and everybody knows how difficult it is to get in. I hope

:55:12. > :55:16.that I can go in there and stay here. You have a couple more races

:55:16. > :55:21.and then we are back to your home town in Brazil. What is that going

:55:22. > :55:30.to be like for you? Last year was absolutely amazing there. It was

:55:30. > :55:32.the first time I raced in Brazil. It was a super special race. People

:55:32. > :55:37.gave me so much energy, and I couldn't believe how much

:55:37. > :55:42.difference that makes, because I had never been there. Been there

:55:42. > :55:46.with this car, that will be a great experience. I hope that my heart

:55:46. > :55:53.can take it! We hope our hearts can take it! It has been great watching

:55:53. > :56:00.you, thank you very much. Bruno finishes in the points, and just in

:56:01. > :56:05.front of him, Paul di Resta. Here is Paul's take on today's Grand

:56:05. > :56:13.Prix. Let's talk about the start, you managed to keep out of all of

:56:13. > :56:20.the chaos that you saw. Yes, my launch wasn't very good, but the

:56:20. > :56:25.pre-launch was quite good. I saw a Williams lunch on the inside of me,

:56:25. > :56:31.but there was no way to avoid it, and I had to go across the chicane,

:56:31. > :56:35.but from there, I was just unlucky at the restart, and had to back out

:56:35. > :56:40.of the tangle. Just through Webber losing his front wing and being in

:56:40. > :56:44.the wrong place at the wrong time. But we extracted as much as we

:56:44. > :56:50.could from what we had with the tyre strategy. The Ferrari was a

:56:50. > :56:57.bit quicker. We have taken a few points. It is good for the

:56:57. > :57:02.constructors Championship, we have overtaken Sauber. And you were told

:57:02. > :57:05.on your team radio to keep pushing? Were worth. We had a little in

:57:05. > :57:13.reserve, and the team were keeping me up to date, but it would have

:57:13. > :57:18.been tough had it been any longer. But we will put our heads down,

:57:18. > :57:27.show a bit of downforce, and I am quite happy going into it, and hope

:57:27. > :57:30.that we can put up a fight. Well done. Thank you.

:57:30. > :57:37.On the way into the European leg this year, we said that Paul was

:57:37. > :57:43.the best rookie out there. Do you maintain that? Unquestionably. He

:57:43. > :57:48.has been able to consistently about qualifying the others. He is the

:57:48. > :57:54.guy that you would maybe expect would make a mistake, because of

:57:54. > :58:01.his inexperience. He has been in touring cars, so this shows he has

:58:01. > :58:09.the talent. When he was team mates with Sebastian Vatel in if Formula

:58:09. > :58:13.Three, he was able to beat him. -- Sebastien Vettel. Perez has been a

:58:13. > :58:21.remarkable rookie as well, so we have been very fortunate this year.

:58:21. > :58:26.There has been very little between them. I think that Paul just edges

:58:26. > :58:31.it for me. Let's talk about a man who isn't a rookie, but looks to

:58:31. > :58:38.make a real Rocky at the start of the race. We were lucky that

:58:38. > :58:43.everybody hopped out of their car's OK after this one. We are getting

:58:43. > :58:49.some jumpy images, but look, he went really wide and got a wheel on

:58:49. > :58:53.the grass. He was probably thinking he could make some places, but

:58:53. > :59:01.skids on the grass and goes right through. He would have known he was

:59:01. > :59:06.going to collect some cars, and a fragment of time in which he was

:59:06. > :59:12.one of the lead cars. He took a straight line down into the first

:59:12. > :59:18.corner, goes to the outside of the Renault 4 -- and then he got a

:59:18. > :59:24.double hit. Would have been great for indoor pinball, but not good

:59:24. > :59:32.for Formula One. When Cup as a bouncing over the grass, usually

:59:32. > :59:38.they take off. -- when cars are bouncing. We should be very

:59:38. > :59:45.grateful that we didn't have a very serious impact. I am well impressed

:59:45. > :59:50.at the way the car has behaved here. Had he hit the kerb, it would have

:59:50. > :59:57.been a different accident. We had a sports car take off through their

:59:57. > :00:03.because he hit that kerb, and he flew some distance. That was an

:00:03. > :00:09.unfortunate incident, but we were unlucky. Another man with a bit of

:00:09. > :00:15.an issue was Felipe Massa. He ended up back to front. This just wasn't

:00:16. > :00:23.happening for him. In many ways, it seems to be the same for Felipe

:00:23. > :00:29.Massa and Ferrari as for Webber and Red Bull. They have been able to

:00:29. > :00:39.win the Grand Prix in the past, but for whatever reason, there just are

:00:39. > :00:39.

:00:39. > :00:45.not delivering that last little bit. Let us start at the beginning. That

:00:45. > :00:52.tangle with Mark Webber. I was in front of him on the second corner.

:00:52. > :00:58.He tried to pass. He could not, so I broke later. I was in front of

:00:58. > :01:05.him and he touched me. I spun. Nothing to say about that. He

:01:05. > :01:09.pushed me out. It was unfortunate, because I lost all the

:01:09. > :01:14.possibilities. You work your way back up a bit, but as always, as

:01:14. > :01:18.often happens with you, sometimes you a further forward and yet when

:01:18. > :01:26.the chequered flag falls, you're not in that position. Paddy-field

:01:26. > :01:34.today? Unlucky. -- How do you feel today. I'm not very happy because

:01:34. > :01:40.of that. We need to concentrate and work hard to be starting and

:01:40. > :01:44.finishing in the right position. That is not happening. Time running

:01:44. > :01:48.out for Felipe Massa. The time not running out for Sebastian Vettel.

:01:48. > :01:56.He has plenty of races to try and become the World Champion. It could

:01:56. > :02:00.happen at Singapore. For the championship, and keeping the

:02:00. > :02:04.excitement alive, I hope that is not the case. I wish him the best,

:02:04. > :02:08.but mathematically, best to keep the championship alive. What is the

:02:08. > :02:13.chance of him being beaten at this stage? It is really nil. The

:02:13. > :02:16.bookies are paying out dividends. If they are not, they should be.

:02:16. > :02:20.This has been a remarkable season. On the back of what he did last

:02:20. > :02:23.year, we are looking at a remarkable young man who is

:02:23. > :02:28.particularly nice and deserves all the accolades he is getting. His

:02:28. > :02:32.just reward will be this new championship. I hope it is over

:02:32. > :02:38.sooner rather than later. If he is able to win it, good for him.

:02:38. > :02:41.wins it, he deserves it. Relive the race on the highlight show tonight

:02:41. > :02:46.race on the highlight show tonight on BBC Three from 7:00pm. More

:02:46. > :02:50.sporting action as well today on the BBC. The final day, live from

:03:05. > :03:09.be pretty special, I think. David Coulthard, thank you very much.
