:01:08. > :01:16.It was as if Formula One was going through a nice stage. Generosity

:01:16. > :01:24.all around. Politeness. Police, it is your turn. How kind! Would

:01:24. > :01:31.somebody as like a go? Seven races, seven different winners. Fernando

:01:31. > :01:38.Alonso, the back to back champion of 2005/ 2006 broke the mould.

:01:38. > :01:45.Enough of this, this is grand prix racing. Other big names followed,

:01:45. > :01:52.removing the cloak of courtesy. Where was the champion of the past

:01:52. > :01:59.two years? He had won in Bahrain, had a couple of seconds and a third.

:01:59. > :02:05.Sebastian Vettel, where were you? He was here - Singapore, Japan,

:02:05. > :02:13.Korea and India - four straight wins. Then a third place in Abu

:02:13. > :02:18.Dhabi, a second in US. Where is Sebastian Vettel? Out in front

:02:19. > :02:28.again. The swirling niceness of the early days gives way to this.

:02:28. > :02:32.Formula One down to the wire, where it should be. And doesn't Eddie

:02:32. > :02:37.Jordan right just beautifully! Welcome to a special one - the

:02:37. > :02:43.place where it will all unfold - Interlagos. It is a favourite with

:02:43. > :02:49.the fans and out in force. In just over 24 hours, one will leave with

:02:49. > :02:53.a broken heart, the other big the 2012 Formula One World Championship

:02:53. > :02:58.trophy. I had a couple of friends I have enjoyed hanging out with for

:02:58. > :03:03.the past four years. When you look back, you almost forget how amazing

:03:03. > :03:07.the start was to the season with the seven different winners.

:03:07. > :03:12.the focus is on Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso. The season was

:03:12. > :03:19.playing out like no other. The level of competitiveness started to

:03:19. > :03:24.trail off. The real victims started to show their performance and Red

:03:24. > :03:30.Bull, McLaren and Ferrari went the distance. There has been a lot to

:03:30. > :03:35.enjoy. You love an underdog. Was it the Williams win or this intense

:03:35. > :03:40.battle for the title? The Williams of one stands out more than the

:03:40. > :03:44.other. The whole weekend was an explosion. Nobody could ever

:03:44. > :03:52.imagine Williams coming back from the doldrums they were in the

:03:52. > :03:57.previous year. That was the success - a surprise - for me this year.

:03:57. > :04:03.The Williams one sticks in my mind. It has been a great year. We have

:04:03. > :04:07.loved sharing it with you. Thank you for joining the BBC today. If

:04:08. > :04:11.you look straight up, you can see the beautiful sunshine has now been

:04:11. > :04:16.replaced by a blanket of cloud. There is rain in the air. We will

:04:16. > :04:23.wait to see how that affects qualifying. Qualifying is coming

:04:23. > :04:32.live at 4pm. Now we will celebrate the Formula One constructors

:04:32. > :04:42.champions. We will talk about Louis Houten leaving McLaren. And Michael

:04:42. > :04:58.

:04:58. > :05:08.Schumacher leaving the sport. -- I hope they will be OK. Lots of

:05:08. > :05:16.

:05:16. > :05:24.panned out. By the end of tomorrow, the drivers will have raised to

:05:24. > :05:28.1195 laps. There are now 71 left to go. It is fascinating as we stand

:05:28. > :05:34.next to the car of Sebastian Vettel to see his dominance did not get

:05:34. > :05:39.going until a few weeks ago. When we left Europe, it was pretty

:05:39. > :05:46.shocking up to there. We left mums that and everything else turned

:05:46. > :05:52.into heaven. He won four on the trot. He does look the favourite

:05:52. > :05:56.for this weekend. We are taking a look inside the garage. Always a

:05:56. > :06:01.special things to do when a team is fighting for the Championship. They

:06:01. > :06:06.have the speed and the points in a bag. They are strong favourites.

:06:06. > :06:12.Let's make no mistake. This track has suited the Red Bull car in

:06:12. > :06:16.previous years. They come here with a previous Championship lead.

:06:16. > :06:23.Through the three practice sessions, it was very hot on Friday and Club

:06:23. > :06:29.this morning. They have been there or thereabouts. -- and cooler This

:06:29. > :06:35.morning. It is incredibly close. It is the second shortest circuit we

:06:36. > :06:41.have on the character -- the calendar. It is feeling closer than

:06:41. > :06:47.it has done all weekend. How happy will Fernando Alonso be about that?

:06:47. > :06:52.He has every reason to have a lot of concerns. Forget the weather.

:06:52. > :06:57.That may play into his hands. What he will be disappointed about is

:06:57. > :07:02.the upsurges of other teams. McLaren has been so strong here.

:07:02. > :07:06.Force India has been so strong. All of these could be potential

:07:06. > :07:11.problems for him. He needs to be very close to proposition and he

:07:11. > :07:17.needs to win. Opposition has never been stronger. It is a very

:07:17. > :07:22.daunting task for him. We will wait to see how qualifying unfolds later

:07:22. > :07:25.on. Probably the biggest worry of all has unfolded in a boardroom

:07:25. > :07:30.instead cut. That means every single race for this Hamilton of

:07:30. > :07:40.McLaren means more than ever. He told us he was desperate to deliver

:07:40. > :07:40.

:07:40. > :07:47.one last team -- one last win for the team from Woking. Lights out. A

:07:47. > :07:55.way we go. Hamilton trying to vote on the inside. Sebastian Vettel has

:07:55. > :08:04.the lead. A good start for Fernando Alonso. Hamilton up the inside of

:08:04. > :08:10.the weather. -- Mark Webber. Hamilton has the move to clean the

:08:10. > :08:18.done this time. Jenson Button dicing with Michael Schumacher.

:08:18. > :08:23.Michael does what Michael does. In the end, Jenson Button get through.

:08:23. > :08:30.Kimi Raikkonen has a chance on Hulkenberg. Can he go round the

:08:30. > :08:40.outside? That was a wonderful move! Great stuff. Mark Webber is in

:08:40. > :08:45.trouble. He has pulled off the road. It may be more than a basic KERS

:08:45. > :08:52.issue. Lewis Hamilton on the attack. Sebastian Vettel knows it. Hamilton

:08:52. > :08:57.sweeps past him. He controlled it beautifully. Lewis Hamilton takes

:08:57. > :09:07.the lead in the US Grand Prix. He will try to go round the outside of

:09:07. > :09:07.

:09:07. > :09:12.Kimi Raikkonen. They are so I be sad. -- side by side. Lewis

:09:12. > :09:22.Hamilton comes out of the final corner to take back-to-back

:09:22. > :09:22.

:09:22. > :09:29.victories in the US Grand Prix. soon as the red light went out in

:09:30. > :09:35.Austin, it means so much to win. A real pleasure to see them wheel to

:09:35. > :09:42.wheel. Two fantastic drivers. They will be legends in the sport long

:09:42. > :09:48.after they retire. Disappointing to have lost but Sebastian Vettel was

:09:48. > :09:53.applauding Lewis Hamilton as he passed. It is all a bit loud in the

:09:53. > :09:57.garage right now. He has seemed like a different guy in and outside

:09:57. > :10:02.of the car since the move was announced. It looks as if the

:10:02. > :10:08.shackles have been released. He has made a very tough decision. He has

:10:08. > :10:12.been quite vocal about the time he left with McLaren. Nevertheless he

:10:12. > :10:18.is looking for the new challenge. That challenge will come because

:10:18. > :10:25.Mercedes need to get back together to give him a cup. One thing we

:10:25. > :10:32.have not touched on his the gearbox of Filipe Massa and Fernando Alonso

:10:32. > :10:35.being moved forward. Some fans did not like that. With the greatest of

:10:36. > :10:40.respect to their fans, the rules are the rules. It is within the

:10:40. > :10:46.rules for the teams to do such a thing. You are trying to maximise

:10:46. > :10:53.your chances of the team winning. Only one driver can win arrays and

:10:53. > :11:00.one driver can win a Championship. -- a race. When you look at the

:11:00. > :11:06.bare facts, Fernando Alonso qualified 9th. On Turn One he was

:11:06. > :11:14.forced. He finds more within himself and any driver I have seen

:11:14. > :11:19.in the past couple of decades. -- than any driver. The equipment he

:11:19. > :11:25.has got is poor. You have to give full credit to Fernando Alonso. He

:11:25. > :11:30.has done a sterling job. Is it enough to win the Championship?

:11:30. > :11:36.Personally, it is a big ask. that matters for Lewis Hamilton is

:11:36. > :11:46.that he managed to pick up the win. Perhaps a reminder for McLaren

:11:46. > :11:50.

:11:50. > :11:56.How much have you changed profession? Before, you had raised

:11:56. > :12:03.his chest to race. When you enter Formula One, everything changes. --

:12:03. > :12:10.races just to raise. Money, fame, all these things come into it. You

:12:10. > :12:16.are thrown into one pot. You do not know what is going on. It has

:12:16. > :12:21.definitely taken a while to grow up and grow into it. I am still doing

:12:21. > :12:26.so. I do not regret things that have happened. They have happened

:12:26. > :12:31.for a reason. Hopefully they will turn me into a better person than I

:12:31. > :12:35.am today. Hopefully people will still respect me for the abilities

:12:35. > :12:40.I have and for my commitment. There is never a shadow of doubt about

:12:41. > :12:45.how committed I am. Can you think back to your first weekend of

:12:46. > :12:52.racing for McLaren? I had been preparing for it my whole life and

:12:52. > :12:57.I felt like I was ready. I was nervous. I was in the zone that

:12:57. > :13:00.weekend. Overtaking everyone at the first corner was the greatest

:13:00. > :13:07.feeling. Let's talk about your Championship victory. How does his

:13:07. > :13:13.stick in your mind when he had been through all those emotions? I was

:13:13. > :13:19.not as ecstatic as when I won in Austin. I was emotionally drained

:13:20. > :13:25.in that race. I had it and I lost it. Emotions were on the limit and

:13:25. > :13:32.beyond. I can be extremely proud to have a World Championship. Would I

:13:32. > :13:39.want to do that day again? Definitely not. If you had one or

:13:39. > :13:46.World Championships come up with to be leaving McLaren? -- if you had

:13:46. > :13:50.won a Mort World Championships, would you be leaving McLaren?

:13:50. > :13:57.think so. I feel like I am leaving my home and going elsewhere. I have

:13:57. > :14:04.learnt my skills and have all the right tools to go out and tries and

:14:04. > :14:08.indifferent. McLaren will always be my home. -- try something different.

:14:09. > :14:14.When the chequered flag has fallen and you go back into the garage,

:14:14. > :14:20.how will that feel? I think I might have to keep my helmet on. It will

:14:20. > :14:25.be really tough. It will be tough because it is my family and they

:14:25. > :14:30.grew up with them. It is best not to talk about it to match. Do you

:14:30. > :14:36.get choked up? I hope you have the great weekend and it really

:14:36. > :14:43.finishes on a high and you can enjoy your last bidets at McLaren.

:14:43. > :14:53.I will do, definitely. -- last few days. My MRS tells me that every

:14:53. > :14:59.

:14:59. > :15:04.We will all be rooting for Lewis Hamilton. Martin Whitmore -- what

:15:04. > :15:07.marches alongside me. It will be very emotional at the end of the

:15:07. > :15:13.race. At the moment we are worried about the rain, we are worried

:15:13. > :15:16.about qualifying, we want to win this race. That is the focus and

:15:16. > :15:20.that overtakes everything. I predict the release of that emotion

:15:20. > :15:25.will be as we crossed the line. We will worry about that will we get

:15:25. > :15:29.to that bit of the weekend. When Lewis crossed the line in Alston,

:15:29. > :15:34.were you sitting there, thinking, you are amazing, or were you

:15:34. > :15:39.thinking, what have we done? I was thinking he is amazing. If you are

:15:39. > :15:43.meaning what have we done, is he a loss to the team, losing some of

:15:43. > :15:48.his capability is a loss to any team. We never hide from that. But

:15:48. > :15:53.he has made a decision, he explained he wanted that challenge.

:15:53. > :16:00.So we've got to get on with it. At the moment it is about winning as

:16:00. > :16:05.many races as we can together. He has been with us, this is his 110

:16:05. > :16:08.Grand Prix. He's been on the podium for nearly half of those. So we

:16:08. > :16:13.want to make it one last win. We will worry about the emotion

:16:13. > :16:17.tonight, then look forward to having an exciting here next year.

:16:17. > :16:27.When I came back to the garage after my last race with McLaren,

:16:27. > :16:30.

:16:30. > :16:35.everybody had disappeared. I used - - are you still emotionally

:16:35. > :16:40.scarred? It was a throwaway line, an attempt at humour. You held on

:16:40. > :16:43.very tight, it was wonderful. Where does he rate, of all of the drivers

:16:43. > :16:52.you have worked with? McLaren have a long history, beyond your time

:16:52. > :16:59.there. How does he rate? Whom do I rate? Where does he rate? It's

:16:59. > :17:08.impossible to say. As you know, I was fortunate enough to join at the

:17:08. > :17:15.end of the Ayrton Senna era. He has to be somebody that you rate highly.

:17:15. > :17:21.Mika Raikonnen, we've had a lot of great drivers. He's a great one.

:17:21. > :17:29.David Coulthard, of course. He was up there as well. The I'll just

:17:29. > :17:33.recover my foot, he has been You are a team boss and you have to

:17:33. > :17:36.go and talk to your people in the factory. You have to motivate them

:17:37. > :17:44.and create something special for next year. I'm now looking forward.

:17:44. > :17:48.What do you say to them? The fact is, we have a great, established

:17:48. > :17:52.team player in Jenson Button. And we got the excitement. In truth, we

:17:52. > :17:58.don't know if Sergio is going to be a world championship contender next

:17:58. > :18:01.year. We have taken a punt, if you like. He's incredibly young, 22.

:18:01. > :18:07.Flashes of brilliance. He might be erratic now, but that's the

:18:07. > :18:13.challenge for the winter. That's the great thing, motivating in

:18:13. > :18:16.Formula One is really so easy. We'd love racing. Not being beaten is a

:18:16. > :18:20.big motivation. That is what we will be there for. I'm not worried

:18:20. > :18:25.about that, we will look forward to that. It's exciting to have

:18:25. > :18:29.something new. Lewis will go to Mercedes with lots of motivation.

:18:29. > :18:33.He'll want to make a personal difference there. He will find that

:18:33. > :18:36.stimulating for a while. Hopefully, at some point, he will find it

:18:36. > :18:41.frustrating. They are a big team and I'm sure they will be strong

:18:41. > :18:46.next year. Our aim is to be stronger. Have a good weekend. If

:18:46. > :18:49.you need a couple at the end of the race, David is the man for that.

:18:49. > :18:57.I'll put a tissue in your pocket because you might need that for the

:18:57. > :19:03.afternoon. Possibly wiping champagne off! Who knows? The Rhys

:19:03. > :19:07.is off to Mercedes, which means he goes into a seat vacated by Michael

:19:07. > :19:16.Schumacher, who leaves the sport 21 years after he first sat in one of

:19:16. > :19:20.Michael Schumacher, where he belonged. Behind the wheel of his

:19:20. > :19:28.prancing horse. A combination that struck fear into his opponents and

:19:28. > :19:32.rewrote every record in the book. But it seemingly wasn't enough. He

:19:32. > :19:38.wanted more. He returned to the track and it wasn't the same.

:19:38. > :19:43.Nobody could have thought it would go like it did. We take a world

:19:43. > :19:49.champion team, you take Mercedes and you take me. So, you think,

:19:50. > :19:55.we've got to be fighting for a championship by that stage? It just

:19:55. > :19:58.is not working for Michael. Things turned out different. There were a

:19:58. > :20:03.good reason why they were different. We worked on them. This challenge

:20:03. > :20:11.of building up a new team again, being in that process, it was a

:20:11. > :20:16.different challenge that I expected. I did enjoy it, yes. And I still do.

:20:16. > :20:25.Can I enjoy it as much as winning races? No. Winning races and

:20:25. > :20:32.championships, I would have enjoyed more. He's a five-times world...

:20:32. > :20:38.Six-time world Formula One... Eight time world Formula One champion.

:20:38. > :20:44.Here comes Michael Schumacher! He's brilliant, he's on pole! What other

:20:44. > :20:48.moments that stand out for you? That's amazing pole lap in Monaco?

:20:48. > :20:55.That's good for the outside. It still explains the outside well,

:20:55. > :20:59.actually. He isn't too old, he's still capable of doing so. For me?

:20:59. > :21:03.Yes, it's good moments. But I've had plenty of other good moments.

:21:03. > :21:09.That is what I am looking for. Afterwards, I have the feeling that

:21:09. > :21:12.I have done a good job. So, what was the problem? Some began to

:21:12. > :21:22.question whether he had lost that belief in himself that made him so

:21:22. > :21:26.

:21:26. > :21:36.special. Was Michael Mark 2 different? People asked, why is he

:21:36. > :21:38.

:21:38. > :21:43.not as good as used to be? And I don't really know. The incident

:21:43. > :21:47.worth run a seller, those uncharacteristic Schumacher

:21:47. > :21:53.moments? He does it for the second year in a row, he runs into the

:21:53. > :22:02.back of another car! Actually, for the Bruno Senna one, I think it

:22:02. > :22:06.reflects on why I am what I am. Because I am so much ahead with my

:22:06. > :22:11.thinking, if somebody does something unexpected, I am out of

:22:11. > :22:14.position. And this is actually my strength. That is why I am so good

:22:14. > :22:24.on or off the start manoeuvres. That is why I have been so good

:22:24. > :22:25.

:22:25. > :22:28.over so many years. But that incident caught me out. Even after

:22:28. > :22:32.the last three years didn't come out to what we were hoping and

:22:32. > :22:36.expecting, you look at all of it and you say that it was a really

:22:36. > :22:41.good time. And everybody will have a favourite Michael Schumacher

:22:41. > :22:46.moment from over the years? I hope so. Do you have something? Maybe

:22:46. > :22:53.not something of this? Well, it has been very obvious, it is probably

:22:53. > :22:57.the milestone of what I have achieved. Moving to Ferrari, a lot

:22:57. > :23:02.of people questioned it. It turned out to be the move, it turned out

:23:02. > :23:08.to be the most successful period I had. And that moment is obviously

:23:08. > :23:16.Japan in 2000. A brilliant race for Michael Schumacher, to win the

:23:16. > :23:20.World Championship, to give Ferrari their dream. Not only because I did

:23:20. > :23:27.win the race and the championship, but how the race was going. That

:23:27. > :23:36.race is the best race I probably ever did. Just so much on the edge.

:23:36. > :23:45.Then the result on top. So, that is How would you like to be

:23:45. > :23:49.remembered? I have said it before, I think I am just a racer. I am

:23:49. > :23:59.racing until nothing works, nothing does. Full commitment, that is what

:23:59. > :24:08.

:24:08. > :24:12.I am. To the edge, that is my life. As the curtain falls tomorrow, we

:24:12. > :24:16.all thank Michael for a fantastic career. I think even his current

:24:16. > :24:21.team enjoyed that and said that he crashed into Bruno Senna because he

:24:21. > :24:27.was too clever with him! What has it been like? It has been a real

:24:27. > :24:31.pleasure to work with Michael, as it was in the earlier period.

:24:31. > :24:35.Clearly, it was frustrating and we didn't get the results we were

:24:35. > :24:41.hoping for. But working with him, his commitment and professionalism,

:24:41. > :24:45.it has still been top-level. A real pleasure. Happy birthday for

:24:45. > :24:49.yesterday. We have to make reference to these things. Just

:24:49. > :24:56.moving on a little bit, I'm always trying to think into the future.

:24:56. > :25:00.What do you now do to get as much information as you can from Lewis?

:25:00. > :25:04.Well, the relationship officially starts at the beginning of next

:25:05. > :25:10.year. It is to meet all of the engineers, get to know each other.

:25:10. > :25:15.Once we start testing, once we get into the car, we are familiar with

:25:15. > :25:18.each other. I know Lewis to talk to, but I have never worked with him.

:25:18. > :25:25.We need to spend some time together, we need to understand what sort of

:25:25. > :25:29.car he would like to drive in terms of his balance, his characteristics.

:25:29. > :25:34.I know the word is bonding, but there is that bonding that we need

:25:34. > :25:38.to start with the Rhys and started integrating into the team.

:25:38. > :25:45.going to take it away from Michael and talk about the fact that I can

:25:45. > :25:48.feel spits of rain on my head. Explain very quickly, how do you do

:25:48. > :25:54.eight tactic for qualifying when it might be wet and it could be dry

:25:54. > :26:00.tomorrow? Well, minimum risk. We have to pick our moments. Can we

:26:00. > :26:03.move under? Can we do that? It is not spitting, it is proper rain.

:26:03. > :26:07.You've got to be out there in the right windows. Put a lot of fuel in

:26:07. > :26:12.the car, make sure you keep running at the right time. The track will

:26:12. > :26:15.be going up and down. We suspect it will be in consistent. If we get a

:26:15. > :26:19.lot of rain now and we don't get any more, the track will be drying

:26:19. > :26:24.out and getting quicker during qualifying. You must be out at the

:26:24. > :26:27.end of each section. Good luck of qualifying, we will seek out the

:26:27. > :26:37.rain pans out and sorry for inviting you out just as the

:26:37. > :26:37.

:26:37. > :26:47.heavens open. Well, he's going to have to overcome the new triple

:26:47. > :26:47.

:26:47. > :27:45.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 58 seconds

:27:45. > :27:54.Yes, have done it! Well done, great Thank you, boys. I told you! Never

:27:54. > :27:59.We congratulate everyone at Red Bull for this amazing season. The

:27:59. > :28:03.drivers' championship, still to be resolved. 13 points between Vettel

:28:03. > :28:08.and Alonso. This is the import number when it comes to the

:28:08. > :28:15.constructors. After 19 races, Red Bull, 440 points. A remarkable

:28:15. > :28:19.number. Look behind us, they are all wimps in Formula One! Five

:28:19. > :28:24.minutes ago, glorious sunshine, everybody out here enjoying the

:28:24. > :28:32.build-up to the race. Christian, very wisely, staying in this little

:28:32. > :28:35.dry patch. We were just enjoying a look back at not just your trouble

:28:35. > :28:39.Formula One championship, but also the teams that you have joined,

:28:39. > :28:43.Ferrari, Williams and McLaren. When we spoke after Alston, you're just

:28:43. > :28:48.thinking about the drivers' championship. Have you allowed this

:28:48. > :28:54.achievement to sink in? Over the week it has sunk in. For every

:28:54. > :29:02.member of the team, it is just remarkable. To have achieved what

:29:02. > :29:04.we have, 34 wins, 80 podiums, three consecutive world titles, against

:29:04. > :29:10.such strong opposition. It's something every member of the team

:29:10. > :29:14.can be fiercely proud of. This weekend, hugely important, the

:29:14. > :29:18.whole world wants to know the outcome. How do you approach this?

:29:18. > :29:23.The poll back from that aggressive way of raising or do you go for

:29:23. > :29:29.medium-risk? I think the danger is that if you change your approach

:29:29. > :29:33.then you are at risk of entering into the unknown. Our approach is

:29:33. > :29:37.the same as the other 19 races. Attack the event, did the best job

:29:37. > :29:41.we can, get as much as we cannot of qualifying and then the race. Then

:29:42. > :29:45.just see where we are. We cannot control what others do, we have to

:29:45. > :29:49.focus on ourselves. You have managed to podium in the past six

:29:49. > :29:58.races. If you do that tomorrow, you are guaranteed to be champions.

:29:58. > :30:01.What will you be telling Sebastian Vettel? He's very focused, he

:30:01. > :30:05.enjoys the track, he enjoys being part of the championship challenge.

:30:05. > :30:08.He's fought from 40 points behind to get himself into the lead coming

:30:08. > :30:15.into this final race. His approach will be no different to the other

:30:15. > :30:17.races. We have a massive opponent in Fernando. Whoever emerges on

:30:17. > :30:22.Sunday as the champion will be fully deserving, after the season

:30:22. > :30:26.that both of them have driven. Thank you. Talking of Fernando, I

:30:27. > :30:30.wonder how much Christian has learned from Ferrari's Challenge in

:30:30. > :30:40.2010, when they were leading coming into the final race and Red Bull

:30:40. > :30:41.

:30:41. > :30:49.walked away with the trophy. Maybe Thank you for your time, ahead of a

:30:49. > :30:56.nerve-racking II -- moment. You have scored twice as many points as

:30:56. > :31:02.your competitors in wet races. These statistics belong to the past.

:31:02. > :31:06.No one can predict what will happen. Apparently, this shower will be

:31:06. > :31:16.very short and then there will be another period of dried thyme and

:31:16. > :31:16.

:31:17. > :31:22.then maybe some more rain. -- dry time. The focus has to be on

:31:22. > :31:30.scoring points tomorrow. Four times vitiate you have had results to

:31:30. > :31:38.enable you to win the championships. -- four times this year. How will

:31:38. > :31:45.you keeping your guys calm and motivated? We have nothing to lose.

:31:45. > :31:50.We have to do the best ways we can and see where Sebastian Vettel will

:31:50. > :31:58.be. -- per best race. We need to make sure we did the best race that

:31:58. > :32:04.we can with no mistakes. We need to see this race as the race itself

:32:04. > :32:10.without thinking to match. Legs start to tremble. I know you do not

:32:10. > :32:17.like to look back. Have you ever seen the future? What do you seek

:32:17. > :32:22.tomorrow evening? I have been in Formula One many years. I remember

:32:22. > :32:28.dramatic endings in Brazil - positive and negative. We need to

:32:28. > :32:33.be positive. This is the approach we need to have tonight. Thank you

:32:33. > :32:39.for that and thank you for giving us a great season. A bit of honesty

:32:39. > :32:46.from him. He says he will have trembling legs if things do not go

:32:46. > :32:53.to plan. Nicky ladder is alongside us. Shabby get his thoughts? Nice

:32:53. > :33:01.to see you. -- shall we get his thoughts? In normal circumstances,

:33:01. > :33:05.Sebastian Vettel should win. Lewis Hamilton is the pole position by

:33:05. > :33:15.under normal circumstances. Is that because you are now involved in

:33:15. > :33:18.

:33:18. > :33:26.Mercedes? Noah macro! It is my objective opinion. -- No. I thought

:33:26. > :33:31.that was a really honest interview from him. It mixes things up. When

:33:31. > :33:36.you have dry conditions were drivers at this level, it is more

:33:36. > :33:42.predictable delivering a good lap time. When you have the track built

:33:42. > :33:49.on the side of the hill, you can be unlucky with running water. They

:33:49. > :33:55.will be hoping that the statistics plate in her favour. They have been

:33:55. > :34:04.the most successful team in the wet. -- play in their favour. Everything

:34:04. > :34:08.they have learned all goes out of the window with a damp track.

:34:08. > :34:14.historical data. Everything on Friday morning and Saturday-morning

:34:14. > :34:19.is pretty much junk. This is why Formula One is so special. Coming

:34:20. > :34:25.to Interlagos is a good place to be. We had a hugely unpredictable start

:34:25. > :34:30.to the season. If you are looking for a circuit to give you

:34:31. > :34:35.unpredictability, this is the place. Sao Paolo is a mind-blowing

:34:35. > :34:45.experience - a roller-coaster. man has not yet got a seat in

:34:45. > :34:49.

:34:49. > :34:54.Formula One but as of 2013, he will After 19 races and 18 different

:34:54. > :35:01.winners, two men could take the World Championship crown. Fernando

:35:01. > :35:05.Alonso and Sebastian Vettel had two championships to their name.

:35:05. > :35:13.Obviously, last year was a bit different. Compared with two years

:35:13. > :35:18.ago, we're in a better can -- position. Let's see what we can do.

:35:18. > :35:25.It could be fantastic but let's not talk about that now. The revolving

:35:25. > :35:31.door of drivers continues to turn. The young Mexican driver will

:35:31. > :35:37.partner Nico Hulkenberg. That means Kamui Kobayashi maybe leaving

:35:38. > :35:45.Formula One and their -- unless he gets another seat elsewhere. It is

:35:45. > :35:52.thought that Petrov and Kimmie -- Heikki Kovalainen might both be out.

:35:52. > :35:59.Bad news at HRTs. They face a race against time to get a buyer. If

:35:59. > :36:03.they do not, the Grid will drop to 22 cars. It sounds like plenty of

:36:03. > :36:10.drivers are leaving Formula One at the end of the season. We up

:36:10. > :36:17.alongside a man who is joining the fray. He is only 21 and making us

:36:17. > :36:23.all feel very cold. You have had three wins in GP 2. Are you ready

:36:23. > :36:28.to step into the world of Formula One? I am ready for the challenge.

:36:28. > :36:38.After a long introduction to Formula One, how I see things, my

:36:38. > :36:46.career has been going through a BMW and Formula Three, GP 2, it is like

:36:46. > :36:52.college enough -- College. Now I am graduating. I am excited am looking

:36:52. > :36:59.forward to face this challenge. I need to be very realistic and take

:36:59. > :37:03.things step-by-step. We have seen a remarkable job, particularly the

:37:03. > :37:08.enthusiasm in Mexico that Sergio Perez has done. Do you think you

:37:08. > :37:13.can follow up in those footsteps and drive this introduction even

:37:13. > :37:21.further into Formula One? interest of people in Mexico has

:37:21. > :37:28.been growing. As well with my involvement in the races. With the

:37:28. > :37:35.race in Austin, it was great to see the fans around. For us, of course,

:37:35. > :37:40.I plan to do my best. First of all on the sporting side, because it is

:37:40. > :37:48.our responsibility. To share all this with the people is very

:37:48. > :37:52.special. Hopefully we can grow as a team - a Mexican team. We have an

:37:52. > :37:57.expression in English that you wait all day for a bus and then a bunch

:37:58. > :38:07.of them come along at one time. It seems that way with Mexican drivers.

:38:08. > :38:11.

:38:11. > :38:20.What advice to make that last step? It is true. People say a very high

:38:20. > :38:26.challenge has been made. Basically, my mentality is to be focused on my

:38:26. > :38:32.pace. I want to make the right been put into Formula One. I am 21 years

:38:32. > :38:37.old. It will be my first year. I'm ready for the challenge. It is not

:38:37. > :38:44.going to be something easy. I'm going to do my best and everyone

:38:44. > :38:48.can expect that from me. I will work in the men's professional way

:38:48. > :38:54.possible. We will be cheering for you next year. You have had your

:38:54. > :39:02.education and now it is time to go out into the world of work. Thank

:39:02. > :39:06.you very much. It is a pleasure to be here. You are not here yet. One

:39:06. > :39:10.more ways to go. One thing we do know for certain is that this man

:39:10. > :39:17.will be in a car next year and that tomorrow the world title will be

:39:17. > :39:27.one might hear in Brazil. -- the world title will be won right here

:39:27. > :39:33.

:39:33. > :39:38.and look at the circuit. It does feel different, doesn't it? This

:39:38. > :39:44.racetrack has evolved from what was an old oval into the circuit we

:39:44. > :39:51.have today. A lot of passion from the grandstand on Sunday. You can

:39:51. > :39:56.see how close we are to the city. It is all around us. It has given

:39:56. > :40:05.as title-winning moments over the years. Shall we walk along the

:40:05. > :40:12.hallowed track? Come on! Let's start at the start of the lap. Back

:40:12. > :40:18.in 2000, who is Hamilton led the Championship. It all went wrong.

:40:18. > :40:24.The one person he did not want to overtake him did. This is one of

:40:24. > :40:28.the most beautiful parts of the track. You have Sao Paolo in the

:40:28. > :40:32.distance. Rubens Barrichello was in pole position. He needed to win the

:40:32. > :40:40.race to get the Championship. Little went wrong here.

:40:40. > :40:43.interesting moment for Jenson Button. It changed the whole

:40:43. > :40:49.complexion of the Grand Prix. Suddenly he believed it was

:40:49. > :40:57.possible and he came through. Jenson Button, World Championship

:40:57. > :41:04.2009! Not a happy his place for you. This is where it all ended. -- not

:41:04. > :41:10.the happiest place. There was a horrible moment when you walked off

:41:10. > :41:16.and wait to glance at the grandstand. That was your departure.

:41:16. > :41:20.This is not a nice complex to have cars in front of you and behind you.

:41:20. > :41:30.On the track like this, qualifying times will be closer than they have

:41:30. > :41:32.

:41:32. > :41:38.been all season. Unlucky for 2008. In 2012, you make it past turned

:41:38. > :41:42.two. Back in 2007, later on in the race, by the time Lewis Hamilton

:41:42. > :41:48.came into the second set, he must have been thinking, it is not going

:41:48. > :41:53.to happen for me this year. remembered the images. The car

:41:53. > :41:58.pulled over. All the main contenders past him. The engine

:41:59. > :42:05.Reset and the gearbox we said and off he set chasing the game.

:42:05. > :42:12.dream is over for Lewis Hamilton. Let's imagine it is 2005. You are

:42:12. > :42:16.Fernando Alonso. I am Kimi Raikkonen. He won the title. Is

:42:16. > :42:24.that the trade mark of him - knowing what he needs to do and

:42:24. > :42:29.doing it? He is the benchmark of all the drivers. He is the complete

:42:29. > :42:35.package. Fernando Alonso, Formula One world champion. Regardless of

:42:35. > :42:45.what happens in qualifying, he has to pledge. Check out Juan Pablo

:42:45. > :42:57.

:42:57. > :43:01.Montoya? He is way too skinny. last corner when Lewis Hamilton

:43:01. > :43:06.went past Timo Glock and backed himself the world title. Take the

:43:06. > :43:13.turn in third gear and they have a massive climb, up through the last

:43:13. > :43:17.turn. It is a bit of a neck venture. Down to the line. It all came down

:43:17. > :43:25.to Timo Glock. He did not have the grip and it allowed Lewis Hamilton

:43:25. > :43:29.to sneak through. Jenson Button had really bad year. His car was on

:43:29. > :43:36.fire. A few guys on Sunday night will want to set fire to their cars,

:43:36. > :43:45.that is for sure. If only Eddie was here. Is your hands sweating or

:43:45. > :43:51.mine? Yours! That bit was not meant to make the television. Surrey.

:43:51. > :43:56.would not have held either of your hands. You were not expecting a

:43:56. > :44:04.Christmas card from Juan Pablo Montoya, were you? Assent in a copy

:44:04. > :44:08.of my book. He is not particularly polite about him in the book. I

:44:08. > :44:14.know you have had success around here. What would you be saying to

:44:14. > :44:19.the team? Every racing driver wants instant success, instant results

:44:19. > :44:25.and the performance that gets them in pole position today. A race team

:44:25. > :44:31.is thinking, what is our objective? Getting the maximum they can on

:44:31. > :44:36.Sunday. Keeping the dry settings on the car. I do not think they will

:44:36. > :44:42.go for shorter gears and more downforce. You have to plan for the

:44:42. > :44:47.race day and that is invariably try. If you get it wrong, you pay a

:44:47. > :44:54.penalty. The risk is more by altering the settings. We are

:44:54. > :44:59.hearing it may well be drier tomorrow. You have to be careful

:44:59. > :45:04.about a knee-jerk reaction. If your car is capable of getting on the

:45:04. > :45:09.front row and you run it with light wing, you are far honourable from

:45:09. > :45:14.some of the middle teams. If you look historically, if they

:45:14. > :45:19.qualified mid grid and there is an incident on the first corner, they

:45:19. > :45:23.tend to run with the lead pack. If they can get out of the true

:45:23. > :45:32.qualifying position, it can help them in a dry race. You can end up

:45:32. > :45:40.being behind someone and someone trying not to be in the DRS then.

:45:40. > :45:44.It can be difficult. You should have become a team bus. I guess the

:45:44. > :45:48.priority is to make sure that Sebastian Vettel and Fernando

:45:49. > :45:58.Alonso do not qualify in midfield. Going into turns two and three, you

:45:59. > :46:06.

:46:06. > :46:12.the race. So don't assume anything. Don't write anybody off. The topsy-

:46:12. > :46:16.turvy style means that anything is possible. You are the only man who

:46:16. > :46:26.could have crowbar to an answer about Jordan winning a race into

:46:26. > :46:26.

:46:26. > :46:30.still working so hard to make sure that their technical updates keep

:46:30. > :46:36.them just a little bit in front of their opponents. So, what have

:46:36. > :46:39.Ferrari and Red Bull done as we get to Brazil? It may be the last rays

:46:39. > :46:43.of the season, but the top teams are still bringing Major the

:46:43. > :46:47.balance to this race. They have to win the last race to make sure they

:46:47. > :46:54.understand the performance of the car. If you look at Ferrari, its

:46:54. > :46:58.front wing detail allows airflow to go through and it gives more

:46:58. > :47:03.consistent downforce. On the front wing, you can see how complicated

:47:03. > :47:06.it is. The output of the main wing, there are five slots alarming more

:47:06. > :47:10.consistent airflow to the underneath of the wing. When the

:47:10. > :47:16.front wheels are steered, it means they get more consistent downfalls.

:47:16. > :47:19.It's very important for cornering. Red Bull, a similar concept. Their

:47:19. > :47:22.gaps are quite a lot shorter. They are really just controlling that

:47:22. > :47:28.one little area, where the front wheel sits behind the front wing.

:47:28. > :47:32.Again, it's about consistency of airflow. If you go on to McLaren,

:47:32. > :47:34.they have a slightly different concept. They have modified the

:47:34. > :47:39.inboard end of the flaps to allow better airflow through to the

:47:39. > :47:43.underneath of the car. That is more downforce on the under flow,

:47:43. > :47:46.generally more downforce across the whole car. This area, they waited

:47:46. > :47:51.very different people stop they only have three elements. A

:47:51. > :47:54.vertical clearance next to the main wing section. That allows the

:47:55. > :47:59.airflow through the gap. It doesn't really affect the underneath of the

:47:59. > :48:04.wing as much as get airflow around the tyre. Who has got it right?

:48:04. > :48:07.There are many ways of doing it. It is just down to what requirements

:48:07. > :48:12.the team needs and who does the best job. We have to wait until

:48:12. > :48:15.tomorrow to find out who did that. A fascinating insight from Gary

:48:15. > :48:22.Anderson. We will indeed wait until tomorrow to see how things unfold.

:48:22. > :48:25.If you work for Ferrari and want to relax, this is why you can and do

:48:25. > :48:29.it. But no relaxing this afternoon, they've got a lot of work to do.

:48:29. > :48:32.Red Bull and McLaren are looking fast, so the team have to get in

:48:32. > :48:36.front of some big teams at the front. Here is what has happened in

:48:36. > :48:40.free practice and what we have learned with Ben Edwards.

:48:40. > :48:44.Before of the title contenders in practice is positive for Sebastian

:48:44. > :48:48.Vettel. He has been second fastest in all three sessions. But the Red

:48:48. > :48:53.Bull is not demonstrating the scintillating pace seen elsewhere.

:48:53. > :48:58.There may be concerns seemed a similar engine of Kimi Raikonnen

:48:58. > :49:03.blow-up in practice three. Alonso was 5th fastest in both sessions,

:49:03. > :49:06.but only eight this morning. Felipe Massa or demonstrated excellent

:49:06. > :49:09.pace on a full tank of fuel on Friday. It's possible that the

:49:09. > :49:16.teams are setting up for wet conditions forecast on Sunday.

:49:16. > :49:20.However, faster than most teams so far are McLaren. Butt was fastest

:49:20. > :49:24.this morning. If McLaren were to finish 1-2 this weekend, they would

:49:24. > :49:27.pass Ferrari for second place in the constructors Championship.

:49:27. > :49:30.Qualifying promises to be a titanic struggle.

:49:30. > :49:36.Not fantastic news for Ferrari, if McLaren are looking strong.

:49:36. > :49:44.Fernando Alonso needs to win this race, effectively? Everything is

:49:44. > :49:48.falling in favour of Vettel. The only glimmer of hope is the sky. He

:49:48. > :49:51.wanted to chuck it down. That will give him the unknown factor. We

:49:52. > :49:55.know what resilience he has, what he can draw out of himself. The

:49:55. > :50:00.rain and the weather are his biggest allies. The other race

:50:00. > :50:04.teams like McLaren, Force India, Lotus, they are going to favour

:50:04. > :50:07.Vettel. They are strong enough and quick enough to get in the mix of

:50:07. > :50:11.the driver's. You can hear the engines roaring behind us. We are

:50:11. > :50:17.going to be in trouble with the Ferrari lot. They like to sit out

:50:17. > :50:25.of the rain. Instead, they have to stand here. So, a Formula One

:50:25. > :50:29.legend is here and Lee McKenzie is Emerson, you are standing here with

:50:29. > :50:36.your sunglasses on, do you know something that we don't? Is it

:50:36. > :50:41.going to keep raining? Well, you never had a precise forecast here.

:50:41. > :50:45.We are close to the mountains and two lakes. It can rain any second,

:50:45. > :50:55.it can change very quickly, the weather. I think it is going to be

:50:55. > :50:55.

:50:55. > :51:00.slippery and damp. If we can lift up your identity pass, F1 world

:51:00. > :51:04.champion, that is a nice thing to have. What do you think of the

:51:04. > :51:08.championship, it's going down to the wire? I think it's one of the

:51:08. > :51:16.best in the history of F1 racing. Very dynamic, a lot of overtaking,

:51:16. > :51:21.a lot of action. I enjoy to watch every grand prix this year. The

:51:21. > :51:25.grand finale in Brazil is a gift for Brazilians and racing fans all

:51:25. > :51:31.over the world. This could BA incredible race. Who do you think

:51:31. > :51:35.deserves to be 2012 champion? think Vettel has the biggest chance.

:51:35. > :51:43.Both deserve it, Fernando and Vettel had a great championship.

:51:43. > :51:53.Fernando has to put the knife into his teeth and go for it. It's

:51:53. > :51:58.

:51:58. > :52:02.How fantastic is this strange weather? Another variable in the

:52:02. > :52:08.next? At the Griffi, it is what we need all of the time. A hell of a

:52:09. > :52:15.job to arrange this for today, it was supposed to be tomorrow. A who

:52:15. > :52:19.are you expecting to win tomorrow? Probably... I don't know, honestly.

:52:19. > :52:28.Probably the guy with the most points. Definitely, not probably.

:52:28. > :52:32.Who deserves it? I should think, honestly, probably... Lewis.

:52:32. > :52:38.have been keeping a close eye on the way the season has unfolded.

:52:38. > :52:42.Nice to chat. I should remind you, it is his last race, I remember

:52:42. > :52:52.saying, pick on someone your own size. Do you still say the same

:52:52. > :52:55.thing? Absolutely, diet to be rid of him! -- glad to be rid of him.

:52:55. > :53:01.Andy Stephens is talking to Gary Anderson. What can we expect from

:53:01. > :53:05.the weather? 6th and 7th fastest, coming up to

:53:05. > :53:09.qualifying and then the rain came. Did that upset you a little bit?

:53:09. > :53:12.Not really, it caught us by surprise. We were predicting the

:53:12. > :53:16.raided them at the end of qualifying, if not after qualifying

:53:16. > :53:23.finished. The track is already drying out. I believe the start of

:53:23. > :53:27.Q1 is going to be dry. The guys were comfortable, 6th and 7th. We

:53:27. > :53:32.were constantly putting us at times in. We're pretty confident. Are you

:53:32. > :53:36.expecting more rain before the end of qualifying? There could be in Q3.

:53:36. > :53:41.It's a bit touch and go. You have to keep your fingers crossed and

:53:41. > :53:46.keep yourself alert? We will keep alert. We are ready for anything

:53:46. > :53:55.thrown at us. If we have to change tyres and go at the end, we have

:53:55. > :54:02.control the weather, the reality is that nobody knows what is done it

:54:02. > :54:12.to happen. You can watch live on the BBC Sport website. -- nobody

:54:12. > :54:15.

:54:15. > :54:20.feed on the red button. The pit lane feed, particularly during the

:54:20. > :54:24.race, is fascinating. You don't get any commentary, just team radio and

:54:24. > :54:30.cameras in the pit lane. It's a unique way to watch Formula One

:54:30. > :54:34.action. If you miss anything from the free practice sessions, you can

:54:34. > :54:38.see it all on iPlayer for the next seven days. Look at this, a man

:54:38. > :54:41.gearing himself up for what is, without doubt, the biggest

:54:42. > :54:45.qualifying session of the season. He looks very relaxed. I would like

:54:45. > :54:52.to know what he is listening to. That would give an insight into his

:54:52. > :54:55.mind set. He does look so core. The suit has not been done up, he's

:54:55. > :54:59.going to take his time, he's looking at the track and looking at

:54:59. > :55:04.the clouds. That the current champion. This is a man who, six

:55:04. > :55:08.years after he won at last, would like another one. Checking out the

:55:08. > :55:18.circuit, while Sebastian Vettel is checking out his car, it's time for

:55:18. > :55:28.

:55:28. > :55:32.that is Formula One 2012 is about to be played out at the final

:55:32. > :55:36.qualifying session of the year. It is just 50 miles from the centre of

:55:36. > :55:39.Sao Paulo at Interlagos, which has hosted Formula One cars for 40

:55:39. > :55:45.years over a couple of different circuit layout. The contract is to

:55:45. > :55:49.buy six miles. It is 4.3 kilometres. One of the short Dellape lengths of

:55:49. > :55:54.the year. Packed into that I did some climes, fast and slow corners

:55:54. > :56:04.and a track that is more calls and textured than the recent run of

:56:04. > :56:06.

:56:06. > :56:09.circuits. That could help. MSN in the paddock, he won the first one

:56:09. > :56:14.here. Ayrton Senna, winning his home grand prix after eight

:56:14. > :56:18.attempts in 1991. This year, his record as the youngest triple world

:56:18. > :56:23.champion will be claimed by Sebastian Vettel or Fernando Alonso.

:56:23. > :56:29.Where they qualify will set the scene for that final showdown. The

:56:29. > :56:34.tension in the camps is palpable. Both drivers are putting on a good

:56:34. > :56:41.display of control. But there has to be nervous? Of course, there

:56:41. > :56:46.will be nervous. But that releases adrenalin into the body. That

:56:46. > :56:50.concentrates the mind. Having that extra nervous energy as they come

:56:50. > :56:55.into the title showdown will just be getting their minds at so that

:56:55. > :57:00.you on the job. The track, embedded in Sao Paulo. The City is all

:57:00. > :57:08.around us. A fantastic turnout as well. The track temperature is 25

:57:08. > :57:11.degrees. How that varies. This yesterday it was double that. As

:57:11. > :57:15.Bernie Eccleston walks down the pit lane, it is not raining but it is

:57:15. > :57:23.so much cooler. He looks like he has a birthday card or something

:57:23. > :57:27.for somebody. It might be for the Mercedes boss, 60 today. It is a

:57:28. > :57:32.big moment, this final qualifying session of the season. You

:57:32. > :57:41.mentioned the great turnout that we have for the Brazilian race fans.

:57:41. > :57:44.They are all hoping to... Well, they will have their personal

:57:44. > :57:49.favourites. A Latin blood that flows through this part of South

:57:49. > :57:54.America. Felipe Massa or has had a couple of wins here. He's the only

:57:54. > :57:57.driver since 1999 to win this race from pole position. He is sporting

:57:57. > :58:01.a different crash helmet design this weekend, dedicated to his

:58:01. > :58:05.father. His father used to race in touring cars. Those are his

:58:05. > :58:15.father's colours. That is what he decided to go for. King terms of

:58:15. > :58:28.

:58:28. > :58:32.proving to be a very able wing-man for Alonso in the second half of

:58:32. > :58:39.the year. You have to question where he was get the beginning of

:58:39. > :58:43.the season. But he has finished with quite a strong run of results.

:58:43. > :58:48.OK, more rain might come later into the session. I think it is not

:58:48. > :58:54.going to stay in these conditions all the time. Very likely or very

:58:54. > :58:57.unlikely? There will be rain, it is just a matter of how heavy. There

:58:57. > :59:04.is no guarantee that the conditions will improve. But they could get

:59:04. > :59:09.worse. So, if we go now and get a banker, at least we have something.

:59:09. > :59:16.Well, as we heard from Ross Brawn, head of committed as part of the

:59:16. > :59:19.show, we know that they will put more fuel in the car right now.

:59:19. > :59:24.Everybody is out on the track. The track has lost a lot of track

:59:24. > :59:32.temperature. That will affect the way that the Pirelli tyres will

:59:32. > :59:36.react. There will be sticking an extra couple of laps fuel on board.

:59:36. > :59:42.It's a short track, so they can afford to not take any risks. This

:59:42. > :59:45.is about damage limitation. Many times in the past, you have been

:59:45. > :59:49.technical director of a team with good qualifying performances. What

:59:49. > :59:52.is the strategy going to be right now? You have to be alert and on

:59:52. > :59:59.your feet, especially if you are a small team. There is something here

:59:59. > :00:04.to be had. That is what they always tried to do, make sure you are let

:00:04. > :00:10.and react to what is going on. It is the small fuel effect. 1.9

:00:11. > :00:14.kilograms per lap. So, it is five laps for three tenser the second.

:00:14. > :00:24.Just make sure you get the clean lap and you're out there when the

:00:24. > :00:32.

:00:32. > :00:40.Plenty of cars are out there right away. They want to get out on their

:00:40. > :00:50.slick tyres in get in that time in quickly. The two Caterhams up out

:00:50. > :00:51.

:00:51. > :00:57.on the track. They want to get some in. They will be watching closely

:00:57. > :01:04.to see if there is any more rain. It looks like a slightly different

:01:04. > :01:11.shade of Tarmac, which would suggest a damp patch. They have cut

:01:11. > :01:19.grooves into the service in areas where there have been -- the

:01:19. > :01:24.surface in areas where there has been dampness in the past. We are

:01:24. > :01:34.going to see significantly slower lap times at the beginning of the

:01:34. > :01:38.

:01:38. > :01:43.session. We can see it is wet. Look how slippery it is? It has to be

:01:43. > :01:50.intermediate for this section. The surface tension of the tyre is

:01:50. > :01:58.falling away massively. That is normally taken flat out. The

:01:58. > :02:07.downside is, on the first half of the track, -- first half of the lap,

:02:07. > :02:13.it is dry. It is quite pretty out there. No great loss for him taking

:02:13. > :02:21.a DIS tour. The teams will be watching this and saying, should we

:02:21. > :02:27.do one ran on the Pinter's in case it rains more heavily? -- up on the

:02:27. > :02:34.intermediates in case it rains more heavily. Heikki Kovalainen was

:02:34. > :02:38.really struggling. News this weekend that Charles Pic will be

:02:38. > :02:44.switching to drive for the Caterhams team next year. No news

:02:44. > :02:52.as to whether Heikki Kovalainen will retain his seat. We could be

:02:52. > :02:58.watching him in his last qualifying session. He is trying to find some

:02:58. > :03:08.grip. It is observation as much as anything. The Marie Show was able

:03:08. > :03:13.to get past him, or is he? That is Charles Pic will start this is not

:03:13. > :03:18.the Grand Prix. -- that is Charles Pic. He is feeling some

:03:18. > :03:22.psychological effect when he was passed by Lewis Hamilton. This

:03:22. > :03:31.battle is over 10th place in the Championship will stop the points

:03:31. > :03:38.come tomorrow in the race. It is important for them to keep that

:03:39. > :03:46.position and or the Caterhams team to try to take that place. -- for

:03:46. > :03:56.the Caterhams team. This was Timo Glock fault that he tried to hold

:03:56. > :03:57.

:03:57. > :04:05.on. Heikki Kovalainen almost came back. That was still full rally

:04:05. > :04:13.driving. -- Bhatt was careful rally driving. In to turn 12, in these

:04:13. > :04:18.conditions, 13, 14, 15 become corners as well. The tyres lose

:04:18. > :04:27.significantly the surface temperature and the whole come

:04:27. > :04:34.pound -- compound starts not to perform. Rapid engine change for

:04:34. > :04:44.the Lotus boys. They have managed to get the car back together. Kamui

:04:44. > :04:48.

:04:48. > :04:57.Kobayashi has gone the fastest in the Sauber. He may not be racing

:04:57. > :05:05.one next year in Formula One. The track conditions are very slippery

:05:05. > :05:13.at the moment. Presumably you have to go for it on the slick tyre.

:05:13. > :05:20.track is pretty dry. Last year, we saw it is all about getting out

:05:20. > :05:26.there with some temperatures in the tyres. You have to go out there. If

:05:27. > :05:34.it was drier, I would have expected 14.5 to get you through. It will be

:05:34. > :05:41.a lottery at the minute. This guy it is getting bluer. Michael

:05:41. > :05:46.Schumacher is sitting there patiently waiting. Just remember,

:05:47. > :05:51.the target is to be in the top 17. Sometimes even that can be

:05:51. > :05:57.difficult when conditions are changing all the time. The rain has

:05:57. > :06:02.affected qualifying here. A couple of years ago Nico Hulkenberg had a

:06:02. > :06:09.great qualifying position. He stayed at and managed to take a

:06:09. > :06:14.surprise pole position. He did. Force India are on intermediate

:06:14. > :06:22.tyres. This will be really good information for other teams. You

:06:22. > :06:31.can see the try line appearing in turn turn. As he comes into 11, you

:06:31. > :06:37.cannot really see it from the camera angle. Totally not these

:06:37. > :06:42.tyres, come back in! He will not be staying out there for very long.

:06:42. > :06:48.Presumably he will cut back into the pit lane. That is interesting.

:06:48. > :06:55.Let's watch him cross the line. harm in him doing the flying lap.

:06:56. > :07:01.He is fastest of all in the last set. That is considerably quicker

:07:01. > :07:07.than Kamui Kobayashi. 1.6 seconds faster on the last set. This is

:07:07. > :07:12.where he will struggle - the opening part. A huge amount of

:07:12. > :07:18.oversteer as he turned in. He will be more committed in the wet areas

:07:18. > :07:26.and you can ever be on a slick tyre. It is getting heat on his brakes

:07:26. > :07:30.and getting them ready for the slicks. Kamui Kobayashi, Buchan see

:07:30. > :07:40.how much he is closing on the drier sections. That is the advantage of

:07:40. > :07:45.the slicks. It is a huge difference in the dry. Into this large -- into

:07:45. > :07:53.this last area, you will see him dropping back. He has not lost

:07:53. > :07:59.anything from having done that ran. Suggest pits this lap. So just pits

:08:00. > :08:09.this lap. Presumably we will see him in this time. Petrov his third

:08:09. > :08:15.in the Caterhams and there may have Ricardo in his Toro Rosso. -- and

:08:15. > :08:20.then we had Daniel Ricciardo in his Toro Rosso. We're waiting for all

:08:20. > :08:25.the front runners to come out onto the circuit. There is a patient

:08:25. > :08:31.waiting game going on. Fernando Alonso has been in pole position in

:08:31. > :08:37.the past but he has never have won the race. He nearly spanned where

:08:38. > :08:46.his band this morning will start he was only just missed by Michael

:08:46. > :08:51.Schumacher. -- he span this morning. Very uncomfortable in the race car

:08:51. > :09:01.coming out of 12. When you are on the slick tyres, you do not have an

:09:01. > :09:02.

:09:02. > :09:12.edge to lean on on a damp track. 30 mm controlling up to 800 waltz Pab

:09:12. > :09:13.

:09:13. > :09:21.with the damp track and a cold tyre is pretty quick -- a damp track and

:09:21. > :09:28.a colt tyre is pretty quick. Let's see what Bruno Senna can do it on

:09:28. > :09:32.home turf for the Williams team will start Pastor Maldonado has

:09:32. > :09:38.moved up two fastest. He is currently the quickest will start a

:09:39. > :09:44.good dry weather time is around 1.13 minutes. That is what they

:09:44. > :09:52.were doing this morning. That was the fastest time set by Jenson

:09:53. > :09:59.Button. It is definitely slick territory in terms of lap time.

:10:00. > :10:06.Bruno Senna has no outright fastest time. He is second to his team-mate,

:10:06. > :10:15.Pastor Maldonado. The track will keep getting faster. Not so much in

:10:15. > :10:24.the first set but the second and third set. -- first set. He is

:10:24. > :10:30.wondering what he is doing. He is trying to qualify it as best he can.

:10:30. > :10:35.Jenson Button, ready to go. He was fastest this morning. This is where

:10:36. > :10:42.he won his title in 2009. That qualifying session did not go well

:10:42. > :10:49.for him. Rubens Barrichello got pole position. Jenson Button was

:10:49. > :10:57.away at the back with the Sebastian Vettel. It was all right on the

:10:57. > :11:02.debacle stump he won the Championship. -- all right on the

:11:02. > :11:11.day. He won the Championship. He does not have a lot of weight in

:11:11. > :11:18.the car. We are at altitude. There is less horse power available. That

:11:18. > :11:28.affects fuel usage. Overall, there is a very small penalty. Giving

:11:28. > :11:28.

:11:28. > :11:34.yourself the safety margin of extra fuel. They had a choice of hard

:11:34. > :11:40.compound Pirelli tyres or medium compound. The white side wall is

:11:40. > :11:47.the softer of the two compounds. Nico Rosberg has gone out on the

:11:47. > :11:53.medium compound tyre. It is all about traction, or the lack of it.

:11:53. > :11:59.It is incredibly steep. To repeat myself, the camera does not do

:11:59. > :12:06.justice of how much of a climb they have after turn 12 will start the

:12:06. > :12:11.opening lap, 5th. I would suggest that is steadier. They will get

:12:11. > :12:19.faster and faster will start a Bruno Senna at his fastest and

:12:19. > :12:25.ahead of Maldonado. -- faster and faster. Hamilton suddenly pops up.

:12:25. > :12:30.Up this will keep happening. The top spot will keep changing. It is

:12:30. > :12:40.the bottom part of the field we need to keep an eye on - trying to

:12:40. > :12:40.

:12:40. > :12:44.get into the top 17 is what you have to do in this part of

:12:44. > :12:48.qualifying. Lewis Hamilton is fastest. We are still watching

:12:48. > :12:57.Fernando Alonso. Hamilton is on a lap as well so we can get a bit of

:12:57. > :13:02.a comparison. Hamilton is about a 10th quicker. On this section of

:13:02. > :13:07.the Interlagos circuit, you need a good balance. You start to break

:13:07. > :13:12.and commit to the corner, which is difficult to balance a racing car.

:13:12. > :13:18.They want to go through very high- speed corners with minimal braking,

:13:18. > :13:24.if none at all, using the downforce they are designed to generate. When

:13:24. > :13:29.you start putting Lateral load, it affects the wheels. It is not about

:13:29. > :13:37.getting a perfect lap in qualifying but maintaining the balance as

:13:37. > :13:45.Alonso goes fastest at this point. Lewis Hamilton just shaded him by

:13:45. > :13:53.for hundreds of a second was dubbed still improving all the time.

:13:53. > :14:01.four hundreds of a second. Kimi Raikkonen is in 6th. Filipe Massa

:14:01. > :14:07.is in third. The last lap is currently the fastest. Keep the

:14:07. > :14:13.pace up. Keep the pace up and keep the temperature in the tyres. Louis

:14:13. > :14:19.Hamilton knows what he has to do. The next set is not so quick. Nico

:14:19. > :14:29.Rosberg has gone the 11th. He is on the medium tyre. Raikkonen is on

:14:29. > :14:33.

:14:33. > :14:39.the softer of the two tyres. It is a different story in these

:14:39. > :14:45.conditions. Jenson Button was hooked up in the dry morning

:14:45. > :14:50.session. I fully expected Lewis Hamilton to drift towards the set-

:14:50. > :14:57.up. Had it been fully dry, he may have done so and we have not seen

:14:57. > :15:04.the Times right now, given the conditions. Look at the sliding

:15:04. > :15:11.that Filipe Massa is doing! He is coming up the hill, still curling.

:15:11. > :15:21.Hulkenberg is doing well. He is currently in eighths. The thirst

:15:21. > :15:27.

:15:27. > :15:35.They have to make the decision. How has the car going to react when I

:15:35. > :15:41.open up the slot gap on the rear wing? You have 100 kilograms of

:15:41. > :15:48.transfer of load. So far, Paul Di Resta goes fastest in this section.

:15:48. > :15:53.That was a good lap by do raster. - - Di Resta. Now we are getting into

:15:53. > :15:56.the serious end of qualifying. Less than four and a half minutes to go.

:15:56. > :16:01.The track is drying up, but still not down to the pace we saw this

:16:01. > :16:06.morning. Button was up to second, but no quicker than Di Resta. It

:16:06. > :16:11.shows you how good that lap was from Paul Di Resta. He was honoured

:16:11. > :16:17.the softer tyre. Here comes Alonso. He goes fastest. Not for long, he

:16:17. > :16:23.doesn't! Hamilton went quicker by four tenths of a second. What is

:16:23. > :16:28.Matt doing at the moment? Was that some debris? Was it bouncing

:16:28. > :16:32.through turn two? That was as Alonso was catching Grosjean. It

:16:32. > :16:37.might have been something picked up. Let's see what this lap time is

:16:37. > :16:41.like for Sebastian Vettel. He's 10th. He's certainly safe. He's on

:16:41. > :16:47.a harder compound tyre. Not approaching the speed that Hamilton

:16:47. > :16:53.and now Perez has done. At Hulkenberg is up to 5th. This is on

:16:53. > :16:59.board with Grosjean. As you said, there was a bit of debris.

:16:59. > :17:09.against the HRT! He made contact with the rear tyre. That is just

:17:09. > :17:09.

:17:09. > :17:16.through the kink at 1015. -- turn 15. He goes down the inside of De

:17:16. > :17:26.La Rosa. He doesn't see him. It's just doesn't seem to work out for

:17:26. > :17:30.Roman Zhouqu in. -- Roman Grosjean. Look at this lot. A friend Wayne

:17:30. > :17:35.finally comes off Grosjean's car. Thankfully, it goes well off the

:17:35. > :17:40.side of the track. Certainly not helping those around him to get a

:17:40. > :17:44.good run, because the time is ticking away. There needs to be a

:17:44. > :17:48.pit box change of the front wing, if they have enough fuel for

:17:49. > :17:53.Grosjean. You can see his front wing lying there. If they have

:17:53. > :17:57.enough fuel, they can just do that in the pit lane. We can see from

:17:57. > :18:03.the commentary box that they are doing it in the pit lane.

:18:03. > :18:07.Vettel has done second-fastest. His second flying lap was much quicker.

:18:07. > :18:13.A new front wing goes on to the Lotus. They are going to send him

:18:14. > :18:21.on his way. He will get the Lappin. Senna is still fastest, on home

:18:21. > :18:31.turf. Vettel second, Hulkenberg third, Hamilton 4th, Di Resta 5th.

:18:31. > :18:32.

:18:32. > :18:39.It's about being in the top 17. Petrov,..., De La Rosa. The cars

:18:39. > :18:43.are going slowly, tried to get some space to work in? The difficulty is,

:18:43. > :18:52.you're at the against the rushy airs, a chattys, you don't want to

:18:52. > :19:00.be near them on the track when you're trying to get a clear lap. -

:19:00. > :19:05.- Marussia ors and HRTs. Will he be able to slip down their inside of

:19:05. > :19:15.Raikonnen and spoil his next slapper? Perez could not get

:19:15. > :19:32.

:19:32. > :19:41.through, Hamilton has gone fastest. he came up the hill. Let's see what

:19:41. > :19:49.happened for Maldonado. He went down inside. Trying to get himself

:19:49. > :19:54.a bit of fear air. Maldonado has to try and improve. Grosjean is out

:19:54. > :19:58.there with a new front wing. They didn't change the tyres, so they

:19:58. > :20:02.could have drop in temperature and he has to get that temperature back

:20:02. > :20:12.up into them. Everybody is in a situation right now where they are

:20:12. > :20:17.not at optimal tyre pressure. They will have put extra pressure in, in

:20:17. > :20:20.an anticipation of more lap time speed. The pressure in Paktiya

:20:20. > :20:25.controls the riding height, which controls the whole interaction with

:20:25. > :20:30.the ground. Look at that, Hamilton nearly a second faster than Bruno

:20:30. > :20:36.Senna. It looks like the two championship contenders are safe.

:20:36. > :20:42.Vettel is in second place. Alonso is in 8th. What about Maldonado? He

:20:42. > :20:48.has traffic ahead of him. He's trying to get into the top 17.

:20:48. > :20:54.Hopefully he will get past that HRT. Pedro De La Rosa or sweeps past the

:20:54. > :20:59.HRT. This should move him up to 11th. Grosjean is pushed down, but

:20:59. > :21:04.he just get back in. You just get back into the top 17. Where is

:21:04. > :21:11.Ricardo? He could still yet push him out. He's done it! Grosjean has

:21:11. > :21:18.been squeezed out. That is the story of the session. Roman

:21:18. > :21:25.Grosjean has been squeezed out. It all goes back to the contact he had

:21:25. > :21:29.with the HRT. With all that excitement, Jenson Button is up to

:21:29. > :21:33.third. It's all looking pretty predictable at the front end. Senna

:21:33. > :21:38.did a good job in changing conditions. Romain Grosjean, you

:21:38. > :21:42.cannot say he is just unlucky. He finds himself in circumstances, I

:21:42. > :21:46.know that some people might think that they were bearing upon the

:21:46. > :21:49.young Frenchman, but there is enough evidence to suggest that

:21:49. > :21:53.enclose combat, and this is exactly what it is in these changing

:21:53. > :21:57.conditions, he got to fight for your track position. It seems that

:21:57. > :22:07.he commits to things and then realises he is too late, it isn't

:22:07. > :22:14.

:22:14. > :22:17.qualifiers, but it hasn't worked out for him. Raikonnen is through.

:22:17. > :22:27.The engine change that the boys made earlier on his working for

:22:27. > :22:39.

:22:39. > :22:49.out, Grosjean, Petrov, Kovalainen.... And Pic. Karthikeyan

:22:49. > :22:52.

:22:52. > :22:58.out-qualifying De La Rosa for the impressive for Bruno Senna. That

:22:58. > :23:04.must improve his confidence. That was a good lap. Romain Grosjean

:23:04. > :23:14.said that he didn't know what to say. I think it's sorry! That is

:23:14. > :23:17.

:23:17. > :23:21.Williams. There is Bruno Senna. He can sit there very happy with his

:23:21. > :23:24.performance. Let's go back to the most controversial moments. Romain

:23:24. > :23:29.Grosjean has never gone out in the first part of qualifying. A big

:23:29. > :23:36.reason why he has is this. I would take a little bit of issue with

:23:36. > :23:41.David on this. David is the racing driver, but I don't think Grosjean

:23:41. > :23:46.does anything wrong. Actually, HRT must not have seen him, to be fair.

:23:46. > :23:51.He was far too tight. That is the pet entry road, where you see the

:23:51. > :23:55.lines across. Traditionally, we used to be penalised for doing this.

:23:55. > :24:00.This is on board with Romain Grosjean. He does nothing wrong. He

:24:00. > :24:05.has been nearly into the wall. What is he supposed to do? You don't

:24:05. > :24:09.think that the HRT is just taking the racing line? We have to look at

:24:09. > :24:13.other laps that HRT has done. I don't think they take that as a

:24:13. > :24:18.normal line. It they do try to go as close as they can to narrow the

:24:18. > :24:21.distance. Let's go back to the start of the session. That is the

:24:21. > :24:25.first time Romain Grosjean has gone out in the first part of qualifying.

:24:25. > :24:28.A big blow for him. Going back to the first part of the session, the

:24:28. > :24:34.cars were fighting to get out of the beginning. Were you surprised

:24:34. > :24:38.no big teams took a gamble to get aid Lappin in early on? Part of

:24:38. > :24:41.life, motor racing, sport, any kind of life, you have to take risk

:24:41. > :24:49.assessment and put Priskin to a balance. I think big teams should

:24:49. > :24:52.have had a banker, anything can happen. -- put risk into the

:24:52. > :24:58.balance. After the cars made their way to the track, we saw an

:24:58. > :25:03.exciting moment involving the man that has joined us now. We enjoyed

:25:03. > :25:08.that scrap we de Marussia, was that you just having a bit of fun in

:25:08. > :25:12.qualifying? I don't know which scrap you are talking about. We saw

:25:12. > :25:16.a lovely incident weigh yourself and Timo Glock were having a real

:25:16. > :25:26.ding-dong and it looked very exciting. That was just to set the

:25:26. > :25:30.Lat team, -- lap time, not anything else. Is that your last ever

:25:30. > :25:35.qualifying for them? It could be my last ever qualifying in F1. It

:25:35. > :25:40.seems quite difficult at the moment. All I can say, I will finish the

:25:40. > :25:44.job tomorrow and give 100%. But it doesn't look very good.

:25:44. > :25:48.describe it as finishing the job, that doesn't sound very optimistic.

:25:48. > :25:52.Just get people at home and idea of what is going on in Formula One,

:25:52. > :25:58.with experience of racing a Renault, who were a race winner for McLaren,

:25:58. > :26:03.you were always so confident about being part of a long-term plan with

:26:03. > :26:08.Tony Fernandes in the team. Where has it gone wrong? Times have

:26:08. > :26:15.changed, the world, generally, is changing. I don't know what else I

:26:15. > :26:19.could have done during this year to make a difference. I guess the only

:26:19. > :26:23.question is that maybe we should have done more earlier. But you

:26:23. > :26:27.can't speculate like that, that is all done and that is how it is now.

:26:27. > :26:31.If Eddie Jordan was feeling very positive and gave you 40 billion,

:26:31. > :26:34.would you suddenly find you have a seat somewhere in Formula One?

:26:34. > :26:38.you gave me 40 million, I would probably do something totally

:26:38. > :26:42.different. The issue is that you don't have the money to stay in the

:26:42. > :26:46.sport? I don't want to go that route. I don't want to bring money.

:26:46. > :26:50.I guess if you want to bring money, you have to be looking at Ferrari

:26:50. > :26:57.or McLaren. I kind of see that you can do some races. But, where we

:26:57. > :27:01.are now, I don't feel up for that. What the deciding factor will be,

:27:01. > :27:06.that is a shame. I know that tomorrow might be your last race.

:27:06. > :27:16.But you leave as a winner, if you do leave Formula One. Best of luck

:27:16. > :27:23.for next year, looking for a seat under way. 15 minutes, the track is

:27:23. > :27:28.pretty much dry. Interestingly, a Jean-Eric Vergne is straight out on

:27:28. > :27:32.track. As the time is compressed, they get more keen to get out there.

:27:32. > :27:39.We have seen the track improve. The lap times weren't quite down to

:27:39. > :27:45.what we saw this morning. What can we expect? In practice three, I

:27:45. > :27:49.think you have to be looking at a 13.5 to feel it was OK. One of the

:27:49. > :27:56.things about it is not to try and do everything on the first lap. As

:27:56. > :28:03.Romain Grosjean found out, it was the last lap. He needs it on the

:28:03. > :28:08.track on the last lap. Not what he wanted, by any means. The incident

:28:08. > :28:11.involving Grosjean will be investigated. No real surprise. For

:28:11. > :28:14.now, it doesn't make any difference because he is out of the next stage

:28:14. > :28:18.of qualifying. This is where it really gets tough. You've got to

:28:18. > :28:23.get into the top 10 if you are to make progress into the final part

:28:23. > :28:29.of qualifying. Nico Hulkenberg put in a good effort. Fourth-fastest.

:28:29. > :28:34.He did use the medium tier. Senna also used the softer tyre and his

:28:34. > :28:39.move to second place. First and third did it on the harder compound

:28:39. > :28:43.tyre. Depending on the car and how your balance is, that could be

:28:43. > :28:49.worth more than half a second. I think that Hulkenberg will be out

:28:49. > :28:52.there on that set of option tyres that have not been giving them

:28:52. > :28:58.anywhere near as hard a time as if he went out in normal dry

:28:58. > :29:03.qualifying. That shock of heat and energy really sees a big drop-off

:29:03. > :29:08.in the tyre. When you have been starting of doing 18s and bringing

:29:08. > :29:12.the lap time down, it brings the tyre temperature down in a more

:29:12. > :29:20.gentle way and increases the lifespan. You can see how hard he

:29:20. > :29:24.is trying, down through the Senna S. This will be the DRS ozone tomorrow.

:29:24. > :29:33.They don't use it here, in qualifying they use it everywhere.

:29:33. > :29:38.Now, through the flat-out left-hand corner, before coming up to this

:29:38. > :29:42.sort of trouble Apex Corner. It's an incredible corner. The apex that

:29:42. > :29:49.he is on now is blind until you arrive at the corner. It's

:29:49. > :29:54.completely flat. It allows them to shorten the apex, I'm not going to

:29:54. > :30:01.attempt to see the Portuguese but I believe it means duckbill. This

:30:01. > :30:06.second sector point comes up just here. Let's look at the time.

:30:06. > :30:11.Hulkenberg has gone fastest. Still trying to struggle a little bit to

:30:11. > :30:15.get the bow down. Out of turn 12 and up the hill he comes.

:30:15. > :30:25.Hulkenberg is currently quickest. That is more like the time we saw

:30:25. > :30:34.

:30:34. > :30:41.had the DRS Open. -- whether he had. I could not see very clearly on the

:30:41. > :30:49.screen. It is a very tricky Senna S. You cannot see the apex as you

:30:49. > :30:59.start braking. As you mention, that will be the DRS then. A few teams

:30:59. > :31:02.

:31:02. > :31:11.will be disappointed that is the DRS Sir own. It is a much shorter

:31:11. > :31:15.straight -- DRS zone. In the heart of qualifying, Bruno Senna has some

:31:15. > :31:22.traffic. Michael Schumacher did a good job of moving out of the way.

:31:22. > :31:31.Bruno Senna had a spin in practice but Michael Schumacher managed to

:31:31. > :31:39.avoid him. He seemed to be half a car with wider than the optimum.

:31:39. > :31:46.That saw the rear side. You have to hold the steering. You have to

:31:46. > :31:56.maintain position. It saps away your lap time. Let's see what it is

:31:56. > :31:56.

:31:56. > :32:06.like. He is in 6th place currently. Michael Schumacher at his 4th. Do

:32:06. > :32:08.

:32:08. > :32:13.Lester his 5th. -- Paul di Resta earned his in 5th. Sebastian Vettel

:32:14. > :32:23.has not run yet. Red Bull and McLaren are waiting patiently and

:32:23. > :32:29.they come out on circuit. -- until they come out on circuit. What are

:32:29. > :32:39.conditions are right? The track is getting better. It will be the last

:32:39. > :32:45.lap that counts. That was 14.6. This morning we saw a 13.1.

:32:45. > :32:49.time for Hulkenberg was just slightly slower. He has come back

:32:49. > :32:55.into the pits but Fernando Alonso is still out there. Michael

:32:55. > :33:02.Schumacher, we are watching him right now. He has had four wins in

:33:02. > :33:09.Brazil over his career - his first career in Formula One. He won for

:33:09. > :33:16.Benetton and Ferrari. He goes 4th fastest for the moment. Nico

:33:17. > :33:22.Rosberg is just ahead. Both Mercedes cars are going well.

:33:22. > :33:26.Filipe Massa has had a great qualifying record in the past. It

:33:26. > :33:31.seems to really suit him. He will be hoping he can put on a great

:33:31. > :33:36.qualifying performance and be asked by the team to support his team-

:33:37. > :33:42.mate. He will be hoping to out qualified Fernando Alonso. I expect

:33:42. > :33:48.lap times would drop significantly in the last few minutes of

:33:48. > :33:58.qualifying. There is the focus, the concentration, the mental rehearsal.

:33:58. > :34:04.We're looking at a lock up here. We are going to see a real battle in

:34:04. > :34:11.the final eight minutes to get into the top 10. Sebastian Vettel, Mark

:34:11. > :34:18.Webber and Lewis Hamilton yet to establish a lap time. We are riding

:34:18. > :34:24.on board with Bruno Senna. Let's see what he can do in this part of

:34:24. > :34:30.qualifying. He is the 4th fastest. That was an improvement. Tidy

:34:30. > :34:35.driving from him. This morning he spam the car around. He has

:34:35. > :34:43.recovered well. A lot of pressure when you carry that name and you

:34:43. > :34:48.are racing around this circuit. Brazil has such a great record in

:34:48. > :34:53.terms of race wins and World Championships. That is right.

:34:53. > :35:00.Pastor Maldonado is going quickly built up quicker than what he needs

:35:00. > :35:07.for the top 10. -- Pastor Maldonado is going quickly. This is

:35:07. > :35:14.competitive but not the fastest lap. He has gone straight backing. What

:35:15. > :35:22.does his strategy have to be? think you had to give yourself

:35:22. > :35:28.opportunity. You need to go out here with four minutes and 20

:35:28. > :35:32.seconds. That is so the tyres can treat themselves nicely. Lewis

:35:32. > :35:39.Hamilton has just left the pits with a medium tyre. He is not

:35:39. > :35:45.taking any chances. We know that is significantly faster. Likewise on

:35:45. > :35:51.the Red Bull. They are expecting to have enough fuel on board to run it

:35:51. > :35:57.to the chequered flag, if the tyres do last. Sebastian Vettel is

:35:57. > :36:02.usually one of the last men to go out in a given part of qualifying.

:36:02. > :36:10.Let's see what will happen. The Red Bull in action. Sebastian Vettel is

:36:10. > :36:14.on his way on the medium tyre. That is Louis Hamilton. He was bubbling

:36:14. > :36:21.after the victory in the United States where he took on and beat

:36:21. > :36:27.Sebastian Vettel. Such a satisfying victory for him! Sebastian Vettel

:36:28. > :36:35.took pole position. They are evenly matched in terms of pole positions.

:36:35. > :36:42.They have six apiece. If one of the two gets pole position today, they

:36:42. > :36:50.will get one over their great rivals. On board with Sebastian

:36:51. > :36:58.Vettel. This is the warm up lap. Up over the rise. Drops down into turn

:36:58. > :37:03.eight. Fernando Alonso is coming out a bit later. It is about

:37:03. > :37:09.getting one clean lap. It is about being in the top 10 and not about

:37:09. > :37:16.being fastest. It is about getting in the top 10. Mercedes is looking

:37:16. > :37:24.quite strong and so is Force India. Hamilton has been fast this weekend.

:37:24. > :37:31.Not quite as fast as Button this morning. He understeer. As he

:37:31. > :37:35.brought the car down at lower speed, he got oversteer. He was fastest of

:37:35. > :37:45.all in the first sector. Whatever he does in his lap, he can go

:37:45. > :37:46.

:37:46. > :37:56.faster. Here is half a second up on Alonso. He will be down around one

:37:56. > :37:57.

:37:57. > :38:02.minute and 13. He may not be quite there yet. It is one 1:13.3 per

:38:02. > :38:11.stub he would try to continue on that. All of the main players are

:38:11. > :38:18.on circuit. -- he will trier. Mark Webber has gone fastest in the

:38:18. > :38:25.middle sector. He has traffic ahead of him. He needs to hope that

:38:25. > :38:32.traffic in front clears. That might be Hulkenberg. He has Filipe Massa

:38:32. > :38:40.ahead of him. The Ferrari is just ahead of the Red Bull. He will get

:38:40. > :38:47.a toe as he comes up their health. -- he will get a tow as he comes up

:38:47. > :38:51.the hill. He goes fastest. He is nearly two-tenths of a second

:38:51. > :38:58.faster than Lewis Hamilton full stabbed that might have given him

:38:58. > :39:05.as much as a 10th of a second. McLaren has showed good pace as it

:39:05. > :39:13.went up the hill. Look at that hearty amount of understeer. What a

:39:13. > :39:22.crucial few laps this is for Fernando Alonso! That has cost him

:39:22. > :39:29.time. That was way too wide. He rolled in so early into turn 12,

:39:29. > :39:34.biting the overstayer. This is the last damp part of the track. --

:39:34. > :39:42.fighting the oversteer. He was held on the climb. Let's see where it

:39:42. > :39:49.puts him. Not as quick as the front runners. He is seven tents off

:39:50. > :39:57.Sebastian Vettel. Fernando Alonso is currently in fifth-place. Nico

:39:57. > :40:04.Rosberg has gone forth. He is being squeezed down the order. A few laps

:40:04. > :40:10.to come. Fernando Alonso needs to drag the quick time out of his

:40:10. > :40:15.Ferrari. We're watching Filipe Massa. He has shown good pace.

:40:15. > :40:24.Another lap, please will stump another lap required. Sebastien

:40:24. > :40:33.Vettel continues on his way. Bruno Senna stays 11th in that lap. He is

:40:33. > :40:40.in danger territory. Pastor Maldonado has gone up to 5th.

:41:50. > :41:56.himself Dom -- Canary Kobayashi can for Sebastian Vettel. He is being

:41:56. > :42:04.matched by Hulkenberg in the Force India. It does not look like the

:42:04. > :42:10.Ferrari is being optimised. Look how much curve he uses? He was

:42:10. > :42:18.trying to be too greedy. The car is bouncing in the air and you cannot

:42:18. > :42:28.get the throttle open. His Ferrari going to pay dearly Again for not

:42:28. > :42:34.

:42:34. > :42:43.enough pace? Fernando Alonso has done a slightly faster lap. Let's

:42:43. > :42:51.see what the lap time is light. Fernando Alonso is in 9th. Michael

:42:51. > :42:59.Schumacher at is out. He has not made the final part of qualifying.

:42:59. > :43:09.I am not sure it will be enough. Bruno Senna, up across the line, he

:43:09. > :43:13.

:43:13. > :43:20.stays 12th. Pastor Maldonado is the 6th fastest driver in that session.

:43:20. > :43:27.Guess who has the fastest time? Sebastian Vettel. The main Champion

:43:27. > :43:34.contenders up in the hunt. We have lost some key players. Fernando

:43:34. > :43:39.Alonso was locking up. There were a lot of mistakes. I think Ferrari

:43:39. > :43:46.and Fernando Alonso will take a lot of heart that was not a clean

:43:46. > :43:52.qualifying lap. It does not look like they had done enough to

:43:52. > :43:56.challenge for pole position. This was a huge block up again. He ran

:43:56. > :44:03.completely wide. The balance and the tyres were not talking to him

:44:45. > :44:51.Kobayashi. Frustration. I know how keen he is to do something amazing

:44:51. > :44:56.in front of his fans. The serious concerns are with the Ferrari fans.

:44:56. > :45:00.Fernando Alonso looks like he is having to fight his car. Everything

:45:00. > :45:06.is going against him. The teams around them are going quicker. Not

:45:06. > :45:12.a happy camp at the moment. A lot of scratching of heads going on at

:45:12. > :45:18.Ferrari. They have traditionally grab it by the neck. At least both

:45:18. > :45:22.of them are there to have a fight for it. We were so worried about

:45:22. > :45:29.the weather. Shadows in the paddock. It will get warmer for the final

:45:29. > :45:37.part of qualifying. The big moment in the first part of qualifying was

:45:37. > :45:47.theirs. Romain Grosjean getting close. Pedro de la Rosa stuck to

:45:47. > :45:48.

:45:48. > :45:51.his racing line. He was trying to It's not often we see contact in

:45:51. > :45:58.qualifying. Tell us about it from your point of view. There is not

:45:58. > :46:03.much to say, unfortunately. I was behind him for the whole map. His

:46:03. > :46:07.flying lap, not a big deal. I was going to overtake him in a straight

:46:07. > :46:13.line, he didn't see me and pushed me into the barriers. I used my

:46:13. > :46:17.brakes as much as I could, but I got pushed into the barriers.

:46:17. > :46:22.clear what he was saying. It was impossible to get through. I know

:46:22. > :46:27.you have had another look. It does seem like the HRT was taking the

:46:27. > :46:31.racing line? Well, it probably was. You can see the different colours

:46:31. > :46:37.of the surface. It is obviously damper on the inside. Sorry, quite

:46:37. > :46:42.the opposite. The only line was the inside. HRT was chasing that. Did

:46:42. > :46:47.he give him enough run? Only those two drivers know that. When I first

:46:47. > :46:51.saw it, I thought that may be the HRT was too tight for it. We had

:46:51. > :46:56.been beating up on poor old Romain Grosjean. I would like to give him

:46:56. > :47:00.a chance, because he is quick. shot was interesting, and anti-

:47:00. > :47:09.dandruff shampoo are being advertised on the side of the Lotus,

:47:09. > :47:14.Well, we hear that they are investigating the collision. Tell

:47:14. > :47:19.us about it from where you were sitting. Well, there's not much I

:47:19. > :47:23.can say, really. I was driving on the only dry Lane that there is on

:47:23. > :47:28.the track. There is not any more power on my car. I was keeping the

:47:28. > :47:35.four wheels in the dry Lane, otherwise you put one wheel into

:47:35. > :47:42.the wet. I felt somebody on the BLF tyre. Really, I don't understand,

:47:42. > :47:47.how can you overtake there? -- the rear left tyre. My rear end was

:47:47. > :47:51.damage after that, I had a puncture, DRS broken, so it wasn't a great

:47:51. > :47:54.qualifying. Very honest response from Pedro de la Rosa. An

:47:54. > :47:59.incredibly experienced driver. He will know where he can or cannot

:47:59. > :48:03.put his car during qualifying. Perhaps they should have looked at

:48:03. > :48:12.what Maldonado was doing. Maybe if he had watched this committee would

:48:12. > :48:14.He gets on the inside of him and then he changes to the outside.

:48:14. > :48:21.then he changes to the outside. This is the clever move. It's also

:48:21. > :48:28.risky. On that side of the track, it is damp. Like he said, he took

:48:28. > :48:32.the only dry line. Nobody can blame you for doing this. And this is

:48:32. > :48:36.Pastor Maldonado we are talking about, he doesn't mind driving on

:48:36. > :48:43.the slippy part of the track. He probably enjoys it. You can see how

:48:43. > :48:47.close he was to the wall and the grass. Let's head up to the

:48:47. > :48:50.commentary box. David Coulthard and Ben Edwards is preparing for the

:48:50. > :48:53.biggest pole position shoot out of the season. In the Ferrari garage

:48:53. > :48:57.they will be nervous about the speed that Red Bull has got?

:48:57. > :49:01.don't think they will be surprised. The speed has been there all

:49:01. > :49:05.weekend. They will be a little more surprise that McLaren, although

:49:05. > :49:09.they are shading Red Bull, they were leading them through the first

:49:09. > :49:12.parts of practice. The track is getting dry, track temperatures can

:49:12. > :49:17.a nap. This is going to be a fantastic shoot-out for pole

:49:17. > :49:21.position. Up in the box, can you see Ferrari making top six in

:49:21. > :49:26.qualifying? I think that is going to be a challenge. Throughout the

:49:26. > :49:29.course of the last part of the year, Fifth is where Alonso has qualified.

:49:29. > :49:35.Top six, he might make it. That is why he tends to be. I'm not sure

:49:35. > :49:37.they have got any more than that, are you? It depends on if the track

:49:37. > :49:43.temperature coming up allows them to find some of the balance that

:49:43. > :49:46.they don't have now. You saw Alonso fighting with the car. This type of

:49:46. > :49:53.circuit Carlisle though it is a short lap, it costs them quite a

:49:53. > :49:58.bit of time. So, it is a journey of discovery, a qualifying lap. We are

:49:58. > :50:01.about to be entertained. As are the fans. Thousands of them packed into

:50:01. > :50:05.the grandstands and some men that know what it takes to do the

:50:05. > :50:08.business behind the wheel. The fight for pole position. Fernando

:50:08. > :50:14.Alonso has not left Sebastian Vettel rest in the last few races.

:50:14. > :50:17.Who will come out on top here? It is time for pole. The last part of

:50:17. > :50:21.qualifying, a bit of sunshine around. How different it is to the

:50:21. > :50:26.beginning of qualifying, when we saw rain on the track. Now we have

:50:26. > :50:31.a bone dry circuit once more. All to play for. Fingers crossed at

:50:31. > :50:41.Ferrari. Can Fernando Alonso keep the challenge alive? For those that

:50:41. > :50:47.

:50:47. > :50:53.Focused on what he has to do. Sebastian Vettel, very focused.

:50:53. > :50:57.Gary, what are you expecting to see from this final part of qualifying?

:50:57. > :51:01.Basically, if all things go equal, if it's a dry day tomorrow,

:51:01. > :51:05.Sebastian Vettel has the pace to beat them. I would imagine that

:51:05. > :51:08.Ferrari are one of the only teams putting all their eggs in one

:51:08. > :51:13.basket. The car will be difficult to drive, one of the things he

:51:13. > :51:17.would do is soften up the rear bar. That will create more understeer.

:51:17. > :51:27.You have to live with it in dry conditions, but they will get the

:51:27. > :51:28.

:51:28. > :51:36.dividends tomorrow. Use the tyre, and then one timed on you. That

:51:36. > :51:41.will be the softer of the two compounds. Nico Rosberg climbs up

:51:41. > :51:43.the hill. Interestingly, the Inter team rivalry has ended up at 10

:51:43. > :51:48.apiece in terms of out-qualify each other. Michael seemed to really get

:51:48. > :51:53.his qualifying performs together in the middle of the season. Rosberg

:51:53. > :51:57.came back at him? It's going to be very telling how he performs

:51:57. > :52:01.alongside Hamilton. Most people were impressed by how he handled

:52:01. > :52:04.the early form of Michael Schumacher being his team-mate. The

:52:04. > :52:08.real thing that will tell us how good Nico Rosberg is, we know he

:52:09. > :52:12.has won a grand prix and it's difficult Mercedes car. It's how he

:52:12. > :52:16.matches up to Lewis Hamilton, one of the fastest drivers in Formula

:52:16. > :52:20.One, will tell a lot about his future. He's had that pole position

:52:20. > :52:27.in China, when he went on to win. Around the same time, he qualified

:52:27. > :52:29.second in Monaco. He has had no other top four on the grid this

:52:29. > :52:34.year. That shows the difference, that funny section where the

:52:34. > :52:38.Mercedes went well and never since? You have got to get the cars in a

:52:38. > :52:43.sweet zone. It's not just about total downforce, it's about having

:52:43. > :52:46.a downforce you can balance. When I spoke to Gary off-air on several

:52:46. > :52:50.occasions, he was always making comments about how hard they are

:52:50. > :52:54.driving the front wings on these cars. If you don't have enough load

:52:54. > :52:58.coming off the front wing, you cannot balance the rest of the

:52:59. > :53:02.downforce that the car generates. Vettel, getting ready to go. A

:53:02. > :53:06.quick. Back Brawn-Mercedes, they're already in the car on a slightly

:53:06. > :53:11.different specifications this again to what we have seen risen through?

:53:11. > :53:14.Into the second half of the season, we changed the system to give rear

:53:14. > :53:18.downforce. They never really got back working. This weekend, they

:53:18. > :53:21.are now running the car in its early-season specification to see

:53:21. > :53:28.if they can find their way and little that again. It's interesting

:53:28. > :53:33.to see. We will see what happens in this session with Rosberg. He was

:53:33. > :53:39.unlucky, he changed it in qualifying. Here, I think the car

:53:39. > :53:43.is a little bit better. Hamilton, meanwhile, is on his lap here. 18.5

:53:43. > :53:46.in this first sector. That's looking competitive. Not as fast as

:53:46. > :53:53.this morning, but immediately faster than the likes of Rosberg

:53:53. > :53:58.and Alonso, and six poll positions so far for Lewis Hamilton. He has

:53:58. > :54:02.qualified in Q3 at every single event. He is 100% in terms of

:54:02. > :54:05.getting into the top 10. The only driver to have achieved that

:54:05. > :54:13.throughout the season. Great effort in qualifying. He had his problems

:54:13. > :54:23.in the races. Let's see what the first benchmark time is like. Well,

:54:23. > :54:28.

:54:28. > :54:32.the Times are improving. It is than we saw the previous sector for

:54:32. > :54:35.the middle section. That was Vettel. It is showing the track evolution.

:54:35. > :54:41.We are getting into his own where these option tyres are really

:54:41. > :54:45.working. So, on track at the moment we have Felipe Massa, Mark Webber.

:54:45. > :54:52.Jenson Button is faster than anybody else in the first sector so

:54:52. > :54:57.far. Massa coming around to complete a lap. Across the line he

:54:57. > :55:02.does. Second fastest from Massa. Ferrari, looking reasonably

:55:02. > :55:07.competitive. Massa has been strong or weak end. Three pole positions

:55:07. > :55:15.he has had in the past. Two race victories and one which he gave up

:55:15. > :55:19.to Kimi Raikonnen in 2007. He does fastest of all in the last sector.

:55:19. > :55:24.In that last sector, typically the McLaren has had the advantage.

:55:24. > :55:34.Something has changed. It could be the drying track conditions. This

:55:34. > :55:43.is on board with Vettel, down through turn 11. Down through

:55:43. > :55:48.Juncao, turn 12. McLaren, one and two. Webber currently third. Alonso

:55:48. > :55:54.is in 5th. Whereas this putting Vettel? It's not looking good, he

:55:54. > :56:02.is actually slower than Alonso. He has backed off now? That was a very

:56:02. > :56:06.cautious middle sector. We haven't CNET there was an issue, but that

:56:06. > :56:12.was almost a second down. There was more to come from Vettel, if he has

:56:12. > :56:15.time. Alonso Pozzato car is pushed back into the pit garage. He is

:56:15. > :56:25.currently faster than Sebastian Vettel. Let's see if there was a

:56:25. > :56:29.

:56:29. > :56:36.artificial grass was damp, he had two left out of it. How much would

:56:36. > :56:41.that have cost him? A good part of half a second, I would say. And it

:56:41. > :56:47.cools down the tyres. So, there is more to come from Vettel. It's not

:56:47. > :56:51.going to be honest her lap, it is a slow first sector. De pole winner

:56:51. > :56:56.here in 2010, when he was driving for Williams. Hulkenberg, unlikely

:56:56. > :57:06.he will take pole on a bone dry track. But he's still qualifying

:57:06. > :57:10.well. I think he is coming in this lap. He will get a new set of tyres

:57:10. > :57:16.and it will be one flying lap. Hamilton is currently fastest.

:57:16. > :57:19.McLaren, one and two. Can they hold on to that or his Vettel going to

:57:19. > :57:23.come out in the closing moments, and so often in the past, and put

:57:23. > :57:28.in an amazing lap? He has all that pressure on him, as the world

:57:28. > :57:32.champion. Let's look at Hulkenberg in the Force India. His last ever

:57:32. > :57:36.outing for them before he switches to the Sauber team. They will like

:57:36. > :57:40.to finish the season strongly, if at all possible. They have a decent

:57:40. > :57:44.gap over Williams in the constructors Championship. A little

:57:44. > :57:48.bit too far behind Sauber to have a major chance of catching the Swiss

:57:48. > :57:58.team. Let's see where this puts Hulkenberg as he comes across the

:57:58. > :58:03.

:58:03. > :58:08.line. He goes forth with that lap potential World Champions to head

:58:08. > :58:16.out. We will expect Sebastian Vettel to be released any time soon.

:58:16. > :58:20.This is where braved driving comes in. Crucially, it looks like they

:58:20. > :58:24.just released the McLaren just ahead of Vettel in the pit lane.

:58:24. > :58:30.They are fine, of course, to do so. That is going to mean that Vettel

:58:30. > :58:34.has to compromise his out lap. Another car, Hamilton, just ahead.

:58:34. > :58:38.It's not ideal in terms of getting yourself ready to get into your lap.

:58:38. > :58:43.It's a very short out lap. To prepare your brakes and tyres is

:58:43. > :58:49.tricky. Let's see where this is going to put him. He hasn't set a

:58:49. > :58:54.time, neither has Maldonado. That puts in 6th, so Kimi Raikonnen is

:58:54. > :58:57.still third in the championship. If Hamilton was to win the race, Kimi

:58:57. > :59:03.Raikonnen would need 5th to make sure he hold on to that place. At

:59:03. > :59:08.the moment, he is 6th fastest. On board with Marc Webb as he comes

:59:08. > :59:17.down into the Senna S. See how much care if he uses. Quite a lot on the

:59:17. > :59:26.right, and hard as he exits. To me, it looks like a negative. This will

:59:26. > :59:31.be a first slightly faster sector. The fastest of anybody so far. He

:59:32. > :59:41.hasn't had pole here, although he has won twice. He lost that, as he

:59:42. > :59:59.

:59:59. > :00:08.Can he take pole position? It is quite difficult to see. He is

:00:08. > :00:17.faster. I am trying to strain my eyes. Hamilton is going fast. Mark

:00:17. > :00:23.Webber is surely going to go faster still. It is quickest. Hamilton and

:00:23. > :00:30.Button are both on quick laps. Virtually identical. Here comes

:00:30. > :00:40.Fernando Alonso. Has he got anything? The middle sector was a

:00:40. > :00:40.

:00:40. > :00:50.reasonable improvement. He is 5th. Pastor Maldonado is forced and

:00:50. > :00:53.

:00:53. > :01:00.Fernando Alonso is now out in 6th. The McLarens are fighting for it.

:01:00. > :01:08.Hamilton against Button for proposition. Button, can he take it

:01:08. > :01:15.back from him? Is it enough? No, it is not. Sebastian Vettel has gone

:01:15. > :01:20.into 4th place. He has the advantage in terms of the

:01:20. > :01:28.Championship. At the final ever qualifying session for McLaren,

:01:28. > :01:38.Lewis Hamilton has taken pole position - his servants of the

:01:38. > :01:48.season. -- his 7th of the season. What a performance! It is his first

:01:48. > :01:50.

:01:51. > :01:55.proposition in Brazil. A great job. Fantastic! The other interesting

:01:55. > :02:05.statistic, it matches Mika Hakkinen in terms of propositions. They were

:02:05. > :02:07.

:02:07. > :02:13.all done for McLaren. In terms of the Championship, Sebastian Vettel

:02:13. > :02:19.is forced and Fernando Alonso is in 8th. This Championship is not over.

:02:19. > :02:24.It is advantage Red Bull and advantage Sebastian Vettel.

:02:24. > :02:32.Hamilton was stuck on pole position. If they finish that way, Ferrari

:02:32. > :02:42.will lose position in the constructors Championship. Kimi

:02:42. > :02:43.

:02:43. > :02:50.Raikkonen is 9th. She maquette his 14th and Romain Grosjean is in 8th

:02:50. > :02:57.place. -- Michael Schumacher at his 14th. Fernando Alonso knows he will

:02:57. > :03:03.have his work cut out. He will hope it will rain tomorrow. The

:03:03. > :03:08.celebrations already beginning at McLaren. What a tremendous

:03:08. > :03:18.performance by Lewis Hamilton! The first proposition for McLaren in

:03:18. > :03:18.

:03:18. > :03:24.Giselle since Mika Hakkinen. What a long time that seemed so! -- in

:03:24. > :03:34.Brazil. The advantage in qualifying has gone to Sebastian Vettel. The

:03:34. > :03:37.

:03:37. > :03:41.outcome of the 2012 titles still depends on the race tomorrow. Very

:03:41. > :03:47.interesting. We know what happened just one week ago in the United

:03:48. > :03:53.States of America. Will we expect another issue with the gearbox?

:03:53. > :03:59.do not think so. It was a brand new track and quicker. Fernando Alonso

:03:59. > :04:06.wanted the line. I do not think that will happen again. The biggest

:04:06. > :04:10.worry for Fernando is the McLaren boys and Mark Webber. They're

:04:10. > :04:16.playing in directly towards the favour of Sebastian Vettel. That is

:04:16. > :04:20.his problem. He needed pole position. The biggest thing he has

:04:20. > :04:25.for this weekend, they have got to hope for rain and they hope they

:04:25. > :04:29.have made the changes today that will help them tomorrow. You wonder

:04:29. > :04:38.if they have set up the car to raise better in the wet than the

:04:38. > :04:48.drive. I wondered if they have. My guess is they have compromised the

:04:48. > :04:54.

:04:54. > :05:01.stump that is a huge gamble. they have compromised. We have a

:05:01. > :05:06.world champion with us. What to do think of that qualifying?

:05:06. > :05:13.McLarens are showing they have the right set-up for Interlagos.

:05:13. > :05:18.Tomorrow it could all change if it rains. We know what a common

:05:18. > :05:26.denominator that is. Surely Fernando Alonso is disappointed.

:05:26. > :05:32.must hope for rain. He could have the right set-up and he could be

:05:32. > :05:37.wrong. He is fast in the ring and Sebastian Vettel is fast as well.

:05:37. > :05:42.As a man who has raced wheel-to- wheel for World Championships, just

:05:42. > :05:52.give us your thoughts. It has been so intense for the last couple of

:05:52. > :05:53.

:05:53. > :06:01.months. An incredible Championship and a -- an incredible race. Thank

:06:01. > :06:07.you very much. Lovely to see you! Enjoy the sunshine. Let's hear from

:06:07. > :06:15.a man who would have loved to win the World Championships, Lewis

:06:15. > :06:22.Hamilton. The boy from Stevenage is going out on a high. You must be

:06:22. > :06:29.very proud of the qualifying on front rows. And very proud of both

:06:29. > :06:35.drivers. Everyone who has made this car quick. I think the team has

:06:35. > :06:41.worked hard. We had the great racing car. Tomorrow's conditions

:06:41. > :06:50.may be different but it is nice to start from the French road and have

:06:50. > :06:57.a front row lockout. -- the front row. The final race for Lewis

:06:57. > :07:03.Hamilton in pole position, that must bring a tear to your eyes.

:07:03. > :07:13.yet. We are focused on a race. We're in a great position for that

:07:13. > :07:18.race. It is a long race. We saw Martin before qualifying. He knew

:07:18. > :07:27.it would be an emotional day. I wonder how it will be tomorrow if

:07:27. > :07:33.Lewis Hamilton picks up that win. Now, Sebastian Vettel. I'm not sure

:07:33. > :07:43.if you imagined yourself starting in 4th place tomorrow. How do you

:07:43. > :07:48.

:07:48. > :07:56.feel? The first ran in Kew's three was not great. And made a mistake.

:07:56. > :08:00.-- first run in Q3. In the beginning, it was quite busy. The

:08:00. > :08:06.circuit was getting quicker throughout. The last couple of laps

:08:06. > :08:12.were the most important. Fernando Alonso was in 8th place. How much

:08:12. > :08:20.was that on your mind? Not to match. I came out of qualifying and knew I

:08:20. > :08:25.could have done better. I will look at the data and see where I was not

:08:25. > :08:30.quick enough. I think the art in good shape. We have been

:08:30. > :08:36.competitive all weekend. We will see what we can do tomorrow.

:08:36. > :08:41.man knows what it takes to take pole position around here. Force

:08:41. > :08:47.was the best that Sebastian Vettel managed. He looks very calm and

:08:47. > :08:55.controlled, doesn't he? He does. He also knows he has Mark Webber

:08:55. > :09:00.alongside him. Mark Webber is a bit tardy off the line. I would expect

:09:00. > :09:05.the past would be made very quickly. He has a great supporting team-mate

:09:05. > :09:12.in Mark Webber. He will not do anything silly or unsporting but he

:09:12. > :09:16.will make it have got any prancing horse to come by. They have won the

:09:16. > :09:24.Constructors' Championship three times. If it stays dry, it will be

:09:24. > :09:32.hard to see how they will let this one slip. Fernando Alonso qualified

:09:32. > :09:36.in eighths. How is the team boss feeling? Let's find out for.

:09:36. > :09:42.Probably not what you wanted but the car looked difficult to drive.

:09:42. > :09:48.Has it been set up for the wet? the perfect position to start the

:09:48. > :09:54.race from tomorrow. A lot of concentration. Work hard and see

:09:54. > :10:01.what will be the outcome of the last race. You are always very good

:10:01. > :10:06.in the wet. Anything is possible. It could be fast and there could be

:10:06. > :10:14.traffic in front. It will be interesting to mild afternoon.

:10:14. > :10:22.does the biggest rain dance tonight? I think it will be a

:10:22. > :10:29.proper bid tango between Fernando Alonso and the owner. I think they

:10:29. > :10:36.have altered his car, to give him the possibility... Maybe they have

:10:36. > :10:41.not gone to full wet settings. They want rain. They have to think, what

:10:41. > :10:47.is the only chance they have to win the Championship? They still have

:10:47. > :10:57.to beat up near the top and they have to hope for rain. They may

:10:57. > :10:58.

:10:58. > :11:04.look very clever this time to Mobot a bit longer than that. -- this

:11:04. > :11:09.time tomorrow or a bit longer than that. If Fernando Alonso is set up

:11:09. > :11:16.for a wet race, his car may be perfect for the conditions. Filipe

:11:16. > :11:25.Massa took a penalty to help his team-mate a week ago. Strong

:11:25. > :11:31.qualifying in front of the home crowd. How do you feel? I feel very

:11:31. > :11:39.happy. It was a fantastic lap. It was a great performance. Looking

:11:39. > :11:45.have crick was the Red Bull, it was impossible to do better. -- how

:11:45. > :11:50.quick. It is positive and nice. We need to concentrate on the race. We

:11:50. > :11:57.will try everything tomorrow. I do not know what the weather will be

:11:57. > :12:05.like that everyone says it will be wet. There are many things around

:12:05. > :12:10.this race. We know anything can happen. Another strong day for you.

:12:10. > :12:16.Can you focus? It is the only thing I need to do - concentrate on my

:12:16. > :12:23.own race - and tried to do a fantastic result in front of my

:12:23. > :12:30.people. I did that today. I'm not in pole position but I have done at

:12:30. > :12:35.three times. I did a fantastic lap. I hope I can do a similar job

:12:35. > :12:45.tomorrow in front of my people. has been very clear that this is

:12:45. > :12:49.

:12:49. > :12:55.his crowd and his ways. -- race. I think the advantage that was gained

:12:55. > :13:01.in Austin was really significant. I'm not sure that is the case here.

:13:01. > :13:08.They know the people of Brazil have come here. There is a Championship

:13:08. > :13:13.on the line. It is different. It is a big home for Ferrari and a big

:13:13. > :13:20.sales market. They can manipulate it differently and make it work.

:13:20. > :13:30.They probably need Filipe Massa in the mix of debt. His car was set up

:13:30. > :13:30.

:13:30. > :13:37.for the trite and the other car was set up for the wet. -- the dry.

:13:37. > :13:42.me present the following evidence. In 2007, Kimi Raikkonen took the

:13:42. > :13:52.title. They are not averse to be a little game to make sure things

:13:52. > :13:59.

:13:59. > :14:08.8th place start tomorrow come a handy you feel about that? Good. --

:14:08. > :14:15.start tomorrow, how do you feel? I will try to achieve the podium that

:14:15. > :14:21.we achieved in Abu Dhabi and starting in those positions. We

:14:21. > :14:26.need rain affected or something. Let's hope we see something like

:14:26. > :14:34.that. How difficult was it knowing it is supposed to be so wet

:14:34. > :14:40.tomorrow? Formula One is dominated about dynamics will start you can

:14:40. > :14:50.put more downforce or less downforce in the car. No big

:14:50. > :14:52.

:14:52. > :14:57.changes. No one gambled and minimal Well, he said maximum downforce in

:14:57. > :15:01.wet and dry. On a circuit like this, you wouldn't normally run with

:15:01. > :15:05.maximum downforce in the dry. Why would he do that? You need a

:15:05. > :15:09.provision to manipulate the cars, quicker Ross Low. I will have to

:15:09. > :15:13.ask Gary Anderson. But how would you read with maximum downforce on

:15:13. > :15:19.the dry? So you think he is saying that they will make minimum

:15:19. > :15:22.changes? Let's not get too focused on one thing. I've not heard an

:15:22. > :15:28.interview or one person associated with Ferrari mention anything other

:15:28. > :15:32.than rain. That clearly is their focus. They have taken a gamble. It

:15:32. > :15:39.will be known tomorrow evening if it was wise for if it was folly. My

:15:39. > :15:45.guess is as good as yours. The last four years, you're guessing has

:15:45. > :15:48.been better than anybody else's. You clearly have a hotline to

:15:49. > :15:57.somebody. You're just being nice to me because you are leaving!

:15:57. > :16:01.fastest three men here at Well done, Lewis. A fantastic pole

:16:01. > :16:05.position. It must give you fantastic satisfaction, with your

:16:05. > :16:09.final grand prix with McLaren? Absolutely. It's been a good

:16:10. > :16:16.weekend so far. I'm grateful to be able to put the car on the front

:16:16. > :16:22.row and to have won my last one-two qualifying with Jenson Button in

:16:22. > :16:25.the same team. A fantastic job by the team. So grateful for the

:16:25. > :16:30.opportunities that they have given me. I hope we can turn it into

:16:30. > :16:33.something positive tomorrow. Jensen, who have been quick all weekend.

:16:33. > :16:37.Starting on the front row, well done. Thank you. It was a pretty

:16:38. > :16:45.good laugh. I'm not going to point at areas where you lose or gain

:16:45. > :16:50.time. Lewis was slightly quicker. Very happy to be on the front row.

:16:50. > :16:53.The last few races have been very tricky. Good, as Le Rhys said, it's

:16:53. > :17:00.great to both be on the front row for his last grand prix for the

:17:00. > :17:04.team. You know, the team is in great shape at the moment. It's a

:17:04. > :17:09.pity that things have to change, but things do change. Mark, third

:17:09. > :17:14.on the grid, well done. You have your team-mate alongside you,

:17:14. > :17:17.Sebastian Vettel. The questionnaires, will you help him

:17:17. > :17:23.for the championship tomorrow? think we focus on ourselves

:17:23. > :17:27.tomorrow. Do the cleanest race that I can. Some tricky weather, it is a

:17:27. > :17:33.long Grand Prix. I'll be focusing 100% of my efforts on my cockpit

:17:33. > :17:37.and getting to the finish line as quickly as possible. Lewis, you won

:17:37. > :17:40.last weekend, fantastic pace. What are the chances tomorrow? I think

:17:40. > :17:48.the weather is going to be tricky to moderate. It's going to

:17:48. > :17:52.definitely make it more of a lottery. As he said, we have put

:17:52. > :17:55.ourselves in a really good position and we are going to do the best job

:17:55. > :17:59.we can. Work together as a team, the best we have been for quite

:17:59. > :18:03.some time. We will make sure we do absolutely everything to get the

:18:03. > :18:08.top result. A rather pointed message from Lewis Hamilton,

:18:08. > :18:12.working as a team, for the final time, working as a team with

:18:12. > :18:16.McLaren. What a way to go out. Without doubt, the fastest team in

:18:16. > :18:20.Formula One. A front row rock out. Jenson Button will be delighted, so

:18:20. > :18:27.close to his team-mate. Then we have Marc Webb and Sebastian Vettel

:18:27. > :18:30.alongside each other. He has a big part to play. Asda's Felipe Massa

:18:30. > :18:35.and well done Maldonado, still questions over his future. Nico

:18:35. > :18:39.Hulkenberg, 7th place for him. This is his final session with Force

:18:39. > :18:43.India, alongside Fernando Alonso who will be frustrated to the

:18:43. > :18:47.finishing in 8th place. Nico Rosberg, rounded out the top 10,

:18:47. > :18:53.just behind Kimi Raikonnen. There is Paul Di Resta. We will hear from

:18:53. > :18:59.him in a moment. He starts alongside Bruno Senna. So many

:18:59. > :19:03.drivers moving it. Sergio's last race with Sauber. Michael

:19:03. > :19:10.Schumacher's last ever race in Formula One, in 14th place.

:19:10. > :19:16.Kobayashi, he has no drive for next season. Jean-Eric Vergne will start

:19:16. > :19:21.in 7th place. There is Grosjean, we heard from both the drivers'. They

:19:21. > :19:27.are going to investigate that incident. At the back, surprise

:19:27. > :19:32.surprise, the team who many expect not to be here next year, HRT. We

:19:32. > :19:36.are alongside Paul Di Resta. We saw that on the graphics, 11th for you.

:19:36. > :19:41.How are you feeling? A little disappointed. After yesterday, we

:19:41. > :19:44.had been strong all weekend in the top 10. It was achievable in Q2.

:19:44. > :19:51.Kobayashi in front of me went wide inter-necine one and came bouncing

:19:51. > :19:58.back onto the track at turn 3. I didn't know where to put myself. A

:19:58. > :20:02.10th was enough to put you through. Out of position, but given that the

:20:02. > :20:07.pace, not too worried. We can certainly go forwards. Are you

:20:07. > :20:12.concerned at all that in a recent races Hulkenberg, your team-mate,

:20:12. > :20:16.has out-qualified you? I was until this weekend. This new generation

:20:16. > :20:21.of tracks require a bit more off an aggressive driving style. He seems

:20:21. > :20:25.to have that, to make the tyres work. I have struggled. When you

:20:25. > :20:28.get back to basics, a normal racing surface, I'd been ahead of him on

:20:28. > :20:32.every session until now. It was looking like a good qualifying

:20:32. > :20:38.session. When things like that, traffic out of your control, you

:20:38. > :20:42.can only put yourself in position. It was a drying track and we chose

:20:42. > :20:46.to go out late so we may be shot ourselves in the foot. You must be

:20:46. > :20:54.quite optimistic for the race. You add in a position, you have good

:20:54. > :20:58.straight-line speeds, the DRS zone, into 4th. A realistic view for

:20:58. > :21:04.tomorrow? I think the weather is going to be tricky. But our long

:21:04. > :21:08.runs seemed consistent yesterday. As the car has shown, when the

:21:08. > :21:11.tyres are having to do hard work, it can be a bit less. We have to

:21:11. > :21:16.wait until tomorrow morning. I'm sure we can go forward from where

:21:16. > :21:22.we are. We are rooting for a good last race, how would you reflect on

:21:22. > :21:26.your season? It's not over yet! is never over until the flag drops.

:21:26. > :21:30.Interesting, if you turn around, you can see Nico Hulkenberg

:21:30. > :21:35.chatting to a member of the Sauber team. Where is he driving next

:21:35. > :21:40.season? Are not surprised. Shall I go and see him? You could ask about

:21:40. > :21:46.the qualifying session. I'm sure that your mind. Could I be rude and

:21:46. > :21:51.interrupt a second? Can I please ask a question? We are talking!

:21:51. > :21:56.good was that session? As good as it can get, really. You seem to

:21:56. > :22:02.have a love-affair with this place. Certainly in the wet, you had poll

:22:02. > :22:12.position. It reminded me pretty much of 2010, before qualifying. It

:22:12. > :22:13.

:22:13. > :22:17.started drizzling and raining. Q What was a bit damp. -- Q1. Force

:22:17. > :22:23.India have given you a lease of life, now you are moving on to

:22:23. > :22:27.Sauber. How would you reflect on this season? I'm very grateful. I

:22:27. > :22:32.realise they gave me the chance to come back and to prove my talent. I

:22:32. > :22:41.think I paid back quite a bit, with a lot of points. But that is racing.

:22:41. > :22:46.You take some decisions and I have moved on to a different team. I

:22:46. > :22:53.love the boys here, it is not easy to go away now. He has actually

:22:53. > :22:56.driven very well, the last few races in particular? He's driven

:22:56. > :23:00.very well. His junior career is not allowed him to get that chance. We

:23:00. > :23:04.were all surprised and disappointed when he lost out to a driver that

:23:04. > :23:07.was able to bring funds to the team in the case of Maldonado. It worked

:23:07. > :23:12.out well for Williams and they won the Spanish Grand Prix. It remains

:23:12. > :23:16.to be seen whether going to Sauber is a step forwards or not. They are

:23:16. > :23:20.a bit of an unpredictable team in terms of overall performance. Eddie

:23:20. > :23:28.speaks highly of Peter Sauber, they do have a great team, but is that

:23:28. > :23:31.the team that allows him to win By turning our attention forwards,

:23:31. > :23:35.let's look back. Amazing wet weather racing over the years. You

:23:35. > :23:40.have been involved in a few of them. It can provide some incredibly

:23:40. > :23:45.unpredictable action. This was Mark Webber. He lost control through 14.

:23:45. > :23:49.He hit the wall. The force of the accident opened his visor. Fernando

:23:49. > :23:55.Alonso does not see that wheel lying in the middle of the road. I

:23:55. > :24:01.remember the images of him sitting beside the car, once he got out. A

:24:01. > :24:07.Jordan, on fire. At that time, Fisichella was declared the winner.

:24:07. > :24:15.Celebrating. You should have won, except they put you in the pits at

:24:15. > :24:19.the wrong moment? Yes. I am forever grateful. If they put a red flag

:24:19. > :24:24.ago, they can call the race at that point and I was brought in one lap

:24:24. > :24:27.early. Just like a few years earlier, when David purposely

:24:27. > :24:31.crashed into Michael Schumacher to let Eddie win. That is why they get

:24:31. > :24:36.on so well, as I am sure you have noticed. Hopefully I want to grab

:24:36. > :24:40.onto Bruno Senna, if he's around. He's been strong on saying that he

:24:40. > :24:44.thinks that maybe Fernando Alonso's car has been set up for wet weather.

:24:44. > :24:50.Could that be the case? Of course. They need to do something different,

:24:50. > :24:54.they don't have the outright pace to beat the rap bill or -- Red Bull

:24:54. > :24:57.or McLaren. It had a hefty we're gurney, the return that you have on

:24:57. > :25:01.the rear wing. Maybe they are hoping for those conditions.

:25:02. > :25:08.could be the gamble that wins the World Championship. Lovely to see

:25:08. > :25:12.you again, amazing hospitality and some fantastic beef? I am glad you

:25:12. > :25:17.are happy, that is what we are here for! The racing take second place

:25:17. > :25:26.on a weekend like this. How was it out there? I know you will be full

:25:26. > :25:31.of frustration? In Q2 you had a fantastic race? Yes, we were very

:25:31. > :25:38.competitive. As soon as the track started to rubber up, the sun came

:25:38. > :25:42.out, we were a bit frustrated. We were debating on whether to go

:25:42. > :25:46.softer or stiffer. Looking back, it's always easy to that in

:25:46. > :25:52.hindsight, but really we should have made the other decision and we

:25:52. > :25:55.would be in Q3. Coming back to Brazil, seeing your family,

:25:55. > :26:00.everything that involves this wonderful place, your uncle, is

:26:00. > :26:03.that much bigger pressure? Do you have to perform higher? Not really,

:26:04. > :26:09.for me I take the energy of the crowd in a very good way. These

:26:09. > :26:13.guys are behind a. They were behind me in 2010, in an uncompetitive car.

:26:13. > :26:17.There were giving me great support. When I come to the track, I want to

:26:17. > :26:22.give something back to them in terms of the great energy that they

:26:22. > :26:27.are giving me. Really, when I sit in the car, I want to push hard and

:26:27. > :26:29.get some good lap times for them. It's important that you recognise

:26:29. > :26:35.the fans. Could you tell us anything about your plans for the

:26:35. > :26:38.future? So far, still open. Still trying to secure competitive races

:26:38. > :26:43.here. For sure, it's been a very tough year. But we have shown some

:26:43. > :26:47.strong performances on quite a few occasions. For sure, qualifying has

:26:47. > :26:50.not been the strongest. But you need the practice sessions to

:26:50. > :26:53.qualify as well. I think we need a bit more tactile and everything

:26:53. > :26:57.will come together. Looking forward to next year. Hopefully we are

:26:57. > :27:02.going to see you again. I don't know about you... Up definitely not

:27:02. > :27:07.me! I hope to see you around. see plenty of you, I will be

:27:07. > :27:10.watching on the BBC. Nice to talk to you. We look forward to him

:27:10. > :27:16.picking up points tomorrow. Let's talk to the man not chasing points,

:27:16. > :27:20.chasing victory. He did it in Austin, he would love to do it here.

:27:20. > :27:25.Congratulations, your 7th pole position of the year. What a

:27:25. > :27:29.fantastic way to start your last race for McLaren? It is actually a!

:27:29. > :27:35.I am not very good at maths. I spent too much time watching cars

:27:35. > :27:43.when I was little. It's been a great Wigan so far. I really hope

:27:43. > :27:47.that we can push tomorrow. -- great weekend. British people always like
