:01:06. > :01:19.COMMENTATOR: Fantastic. You are a four-time World Champion. Yes, yes!

:01:20. > :01:22.It wasn't just about four World Championships, it was the way he

:01:23. > :01:29.celebrated. That made it so special. The piece I like most of everything,

:01:30. > :01:34.the adoration, he was saying, you are a genius. You are fantastic.

:01:35. > :01:40.Sebastian seemed emotional when he came across the line. I don't know

:01:41. > :01:44.what to say. So he should be. When you say you love somebody, it's a

:01:45. > :01:48.big moment, isn't it. I love you guys. I love you. That is why I

:01:49. > :01:52.think people do believe in their heart this is a very special young

:01:53. > :01:57.man. COMMENTATOR: He has become a man for

:01:58. > :02:02.four seasons. It was emotional. He was well touched. Four times World

:02:03. > :02:08.Champion. It's a matter of joining greats.

:02:09. > :02:14.COMMENTATOR: Sebastian Vettel is the 2013 World Champion. DC, where on

:02:15. > :02:18.earth is he? He said he was inspired by Seb and last week's events or

:02:19. > :02:20.something! COMMENTATOR: , that's what I'm

:02:21. > :02:37.talking about. Yeah. Yeah! Boys will be boys. How high up were

:02:38. > :02:41.you? Is 235 meters to that helipad. Weren't you nervous at all? About as

:02:42. > :02:45.nervous as you are when you have asked Eddie a question and you are

:02:46. > :02:50.waiting for an an answer. Do you involve me in that story of yours.

:02:51. > :02:55.You were amazing up there. Thank you. There couldn't be a bigger con

:02:56. > :03:01.stras from last weekend's chaotic and soulful setting in India to this

:03:02. > :03:05.Polished giltsy event as we go from dusk until dark in Abu Dhabi no.

:03:06. > :03:12.Question this is an incredible setting They seem to have added so

:03:13. > :03:17.many bits on it's like a weekend holiday for people? The tourism are

:03:18. > :03:21.full force at the moment. They have Ferrari World an water parks. The

:03:22. > :03:28.Grand Prix and they have lots of other venues. Only this week they

:03:29. > :03:31.had the world championship football under-17s they are a major sporting

:03:32. > :03:36.event here. The concerts and so on. The track itself is very pretty.

:03:37. > :03:40.What do the drivers make of it? It's not one of the favourites they drive

:03:41. > :03:45.on. They get lost in the atmosphere of this event. The drivers will

:03:46. > :03:49.drive any racetrack if it was cobbled stones. That would be fun to

:03:50. > :03:54.watch. That would be good to watch. It's below average speed. The mean

:03:55. > :04:00.part of the circuit is the last sector. This whole thing about going

:04:01. > :04:04.from sunset, pushing the car in those changing conditions, that

:04:05. > :04:09.gives the drivers the the thrill. Continuously involved. Even though

:04:10. > :04:13.the Champion shis have been decided there is plenty of time for headline

:04:14. > :04:19.news to be made. Three to go then as we near the end of the F1 season.

:04:20. > :04:23.Looking back, count the 10 wins for the four-time World Champion,

:04:24. > :04:33.Sebastian Vettel. His 10 wins leave the Championship

:04:34. > :04:38.looking like this: Fernando Alonso says he has been in the form of his

:04:39. > :04:43.life all season, but he hasn't been able to get close to the Red Bull.

:04:44. > :04:48.He hopes to keep Kimi Raikkonen behind him in third. The title may

:04:49. > :04:51.belong to Red Bull but Mercedes and Ferrari have their horns locked with

:04:52. > :05:01.their eyes on second. It's that time of the season Where

:05:02. > :05:09.the driver merry-go-round is in full swing. There has been celebrating as

:05:10. > :05:13.Lee McKenzie found out. Less than a week has passed between Sebastian

:05:14. > :05:16.Vettel winning his fourth consecutive Championship and

:05:17. > :05:21.arriving here in Abu Dhabi. He choose not to have too big a party,

:05:22. > :05:25.just a few drinks. I don't remember how many, to be honest. Yeah, after

:05:26. > :05:30.that I felt horrible. I think I felt pretty sick. I had two nice days at

:05:31. > :05:39.thoem recover and get back into shape, now I'm here. The only

:05:40. > :05:44.drivers willing to say where they hope to be were Luis Perez-Sala and

:05:45. > :05:48.chit chit chit who say they will stay with they're current teams. I

:05:49. > :05:56.would like the chance to drive a faster car. It let's you show more

:05:57. > :06:01.of your ability. You don't want to be too greedy. I'd like to get the

:06:02. > :06:05.deal done soon. You be a McLaren driver next season? Have you to ask

:06:06. > :06:07.Martin for that. What is the feeling you get, that you will be here? Yes,

:06:08. > :06:23.I'm sure I will be here. I know where I'm going to be, yeah,

:06:24. > :06:30.but I can't tell it to you right now. The viewers would love to know.

:06:31. > :06:37.Not even a small hint. It shouldn't last so much longer. We are now in

:06:38. > :06:43.November almost, so maybe one week, two weeks I can let you know. I

:06:44. > :06:49.can't guarantee I will stay, I can't guarantee I will move. I will take

:06:50. > :06:55.the best decision for myself. We'll see. It's not just drivers, the

:06:56. > :07:04.rumour mill has Ross Brawn retiring at the end of this season. I think

:07:05. > :07:07.for anyone, any Formula One team Ross has experience and a strong

:07:08. > :07:16.character as well. I'm surprised they are letting him go. For me,

:07:17. > :07:21.he's the perfect guy to run a team. Surprised to see him leaving the

:07:22. > :07:26.sport. Kimi Raikkonen says he may not take part in the final two races

:07:27. > :07:31.of the season if his Lotus team don't flail promise to serve a

:07:32. > :07:34.financial dispute. He was still in Europe on Thursday and only decided

:07:35. > :07:39.to race in Abu Dhabi at the last-minute. He says he has not been

:07:40. > :07:46.paid a single euro all year. There is no secret that Lotus have been

:07:47. > :07:50.having cash flow problems and last year as well, Kimi's performance has

:07:51. > :07:55.dropped off every time he signed for Ferrari, what do you think? I don't

:07:56. > :08:00.think that Kimi is motivated by the money when he is in the car. It's

:08:01. > :08:03.about the lack of support and honouring of the contracts. The

:08:04. > :08:08.teams would be the first to complain if a driver didn't uphold his side

:08:09. > :08:14.of the bargain. Two things in my mind. One is stress of physical

:08:15. > :08:19.nature if you have... Then stress financially. This is stress

:08:20. > :08:25.financially, for sure it is having a massive effect on Raikkonen, it

:08:26. > :08:30.couldn't but be. The team appears not to be have been honourable. You

:08:31. > :08:33.find a solution a mechanism of payment, guarantee, any kind of

:08:34. > :08:37.different financial structure that will give him happiness that it will

:08:38. > :08:40.be paid at a certain given time in the future. Is it the financial

:08:41. > :08:45.situation that is causing the blockage in the driver

:08:46. > :08:52.merry-go-round. Lotus are looking at Pastor Maldonado who comes with a

:08:53. > :08:57.lot of money and Nico Hulkenberg, two different driving talents. On

:08:58. > :09:02.top of his game. Maldonado will get this seat is because he is able to

:09:03. > :09:06.bring with him an amount of support, sponsorship money, call it what you

:09:07. > :09:09.like, the people of Venezuela put their belief in him. He will come

:09:10. > :09:13.here with the necessary amount of money to make it happen. Will it

:09:14. > :09:17.balance the books inside Lotus, I don't know the answer to. That they

:09:18. > :09:20.have a duty to make sure it does. We are talking about tens of millions

:09:21. > :09:24.of pounds. If they were looking at the championship and getting an

:09:25. > :09:29.extra place in the championship what money would they look at there? That

:09:30. > :09:33.is in the future. The bank manager wants the cash on the desk. You need

:09:34. > :09:38.certainty or as much, if you like, take the risk out of the event if

:09:39. > :09:43.you can. As much of that risk. That is what they will do. They will take

:09:44. > :09:47.Maldonado, money in the bank always wins. Do you see this as a problem,

:09:48. > :09:54.do you think will are more drivers who have natural talent that aren't

:09:55. > :09:58.getting a seat? Unquestionably there are always drivers who had great

:09:59. > :10:01.talent and didn't have the support. We are talking about a the great

:10:02. > :10:06.deal right now because it used to be the back of the grid struggled for

:10:07. > :10:12.money. It has marched its way up to going top four teams are struggling

:10:13. > :10:16.to balance the books. Lee was talking there about Ross Brawn and

:10:17. > :10:18.perhaps ta he would be leaving the Championship at the end of this

:10:19. > :10:23.year. David, what does he bring to a team as a manager, as a team

:10:24. > :10:28.principal? No question, from a technical point of view, leadership

:10:29. > :10:31.point of view Ross Brawn has presence, experience and respect of

:10:32. > :10:34.the paddock. When he walks into a team environment people are looking

:10:35. > :10:37.for the direction. They are looking for leadership. That is the key

:10:38. > :10:41.thing. It's not being about able toll design the overall package

:10:42. > :10:44.thoeshgs days are gone. A team principal's role people have to have

:10:45. > :10:48.no misunderstanding as to who is calling the shots. It remains to be

:10:49. > :10:52.seen who will take up that role within Mercedes. I'm sure they are a

:10:53. > :10:57.big enough organisation to fill the hole. He is an asset to any team. We

:10:58. > :11:01.will miss talking to him as well, won't we? We look at the history, I

:11:02. > :11:04.will have to go back over the records, I believe winning a

:11:05. > :11:08.Championship with his own name Brawn, he has won World

:11:09. > :11:12.Championships with Benetton and with Ferrari, sthaes sets him apart as

:11:13. > :11:17.being pretty unique. Time for qualifying. Lee and Tom are in the

:11:18. > :11:32.pit lane for you. Gary, David and Ben are your commentators.

:11:33. > :11:39.COMMENTATOR: Qualifying here in Abu Dhabi has always resulted in either

:11:40. > :11:43.Sebastian Vettel or Lewis Hamilton taking pole position. This will be

:11:44. > :11:48.the decider for the V8 era as they stand as two appease. Their glory

:11:49. > :11:53.may be stolen by another, whatever happens the first task for both of

:11:54. > :11:57.them is to make the top 16 in this first session. They have to get the

:11:58. > :12:02.tyre use right. Pirelli have brought the soft and medium compound tyres

:12:03. > :12:05.to this racetrack. The same pounds they brought to the last race in

:12:06. > :12:09.India. The track is different here, you don't have quite the same

:12:10. > :12:13.loadings on those tyres, will that affect how the teams use them in

:12:14. > :12:17.qualifying? No, there is such a big stem between medium and soft they

:12:18. > :12:22.have to have that soft tyre to do a reasonably good lap time. It looks

:12:23. > :12:29.like 1-and-a-half seconds. It's about traction here. Basically, it

:12:30. > :12:32.blitz the rear tyres, the front tyres are OK. The same sort of

:12:33. > :12:39.problems, slightly different, you will have to use them to get the lap

:12:40. > :12:42.time. We expecting everyone to use the soft tyre throughout this part

:12:43. > :12:47.of qualifying? What did you think of the cutoff time? People will have to

:12:48. > :12:57.use it. There is a big difference in-lap time the cutoff time will be

:12:58. > :13:00.1: (Inaudible) You will have to be pretty alert with pit lane. You

:13:01. > :13:04.can't just do that lap time and sit there. You have to be ready to go

:13:05. > :13:06.again. Saw the mistakes from Lotus last time out, didn't we? Thank you

:13:07. > :13:18.very much. We are overhearing that the

:13:19. > :13:24.engineering said he could see his DRS being activated and deactivated

:13:25. > :13:29.clearly it was outside the zone. Is that the driver who is pushing the

:13:30. > :13:42.button or is there a fault in that system? We will follow that.

:13:43. > :13:48.Jean-Eric Vergne was going well this morning, tenth quickest. That lap

:13:49. > :13:57.isn't faster than his best at this point. He is on the medium tyre.

:13:58. > :14:00.Chilton has already gone out on the soft tyre.

:14:01. > :14:06.Last couple of tricky corners coming up. Watch for track limit,

:14:07. > :14:11.particularly coming out of this last corner. The drivers have been warned

:14:12. > :14:15.if they run all four wheels over the edge here, which he just does, they

:14:16. > :14:20.are in danger of losing the lap time. We experienced some confusion

:14:21. > :14:25.as to the track limits in India having discussed it with the drivers

:14:26. > :14:30.I know it was discussed in the meeting with the race director where

:14:31. > :14:33.he felt if you went beyond the white line, which is how I would always

:14:34. > :14:37.have defined what the track limit was, he felt in areas where there

:14:38. > :14:41.was artificial grass you wouldn't have gone faster. He thinks you

:14:42. > :14:46.would lose time. It does beg the question, if a racing driver goes

:14:47. > :14:53.there and goes there systemically he is going there for a good reason,

:14:54. > :14:57.because he thinks he is gaining time not for the mileage bonus points.

:14:58. > :15:00.They are fighting over track position there. Trying to make sure

:15:01. > :15:03.in the Lotus he has a clean run through that final sector. It's

:15:04. > :15:08.where all the corners are. Clearly, there are some corners in the first

:15:09. > :15:12.two sectors. The majority of the lap time is about straight line speed

:15:13. > :15:18.and big stopping down into the hair pin and the chicane.

:15:19. > :15:25.We are on board with Fernando Alonso. This is the chicane

:15:26. > :15:33.separating the longest straights in Abu Dhabi. It passes the secondary

:15:34. > :15:38.pits. Whether you is the main starting grid. Another crucial

:15:39. > :15:43.breaking area. -- where they use. A lot of the time is spent on the

:15:44. > :15:49.brakes, so it is a high energy breaking circuit, particularly in

:15:50. > :15:53.this part. The sun is setting and it is difficult for the driver

:15:54. > :15:58.approaching the corner. Flat through here and the next part, so the car

:15:59. > :16:06.is unloaded as they run into the braking zone for 17. Look out for

:16:07. > :16:12.guys breaking. They pass into 19 and this is an amazing shot. Not of this

:16:13. > :16:17.existed a couple of years ago, it was a sandy island close to the main

:16:18. > :16:24.capital. As he comes out, an opening gambit. Fastest for Alonso on the

:16:25. > :16:30.harder tyre, but slower than the Mercedes cars ahead. We expect the

:16:31. > :16:34.tyres to be very close, they were very close this morning. Not much

:16:35. > :16:40.between the Red Bull, Mercedes and Lotus, Ferrari while lower down.

:16:41. > :16:46.McLaren feeling better after the good performance from Perez last

:16:47. > :16:49.week and he is third. Alonso has already been squeezed out by several

:16:50. > :16:55.cars, on board now with Kimi Raikkonen. Let's keep an eye on the

:16:56. > :17:00.Lotus driver. Kimi Raikkonen won this race last year in fine style.

:17:01. > :17:06.He did take advantage of the fact with Hamilton had a fuel Russia

:17:07. > :17:15.blood that put him out believed. -- a fuel pressure problem. He goes

:17:16. > :17:24.fourth fastest. It is the short wheelbase car and it is interesting.

:17:25. > :17:33.What have you got, Tom? Sergio Perez had a very quiet final session this

:17:34. > :17:39.morning because he was so happy with the car yesterday. It took place at

:17:40. > :17:46.the same time of day as we are witnessing now and to see him here,

:17:47. > :17:51.it suggests the car is coming into its own as the track temperatures

:17:52. > :17:54.come down. And Jenson Button was sixth fastest in the McLaren. So we

:17:55. > :17:59.need to keep an eye on the McLaren cars, they may get into the top ten

:18:00. > :18:04.more comfortably and that would be a boost. Jenson Button said the other

:18:05. > :18:07.day he thought the smoothness of the track would suit them but not having

:18:08. > :18:13.so many high-speed corners might count against them, the car usually

:18:14. > :18:17.works well with that, so a mixture. I think they took a step forward in

:18:18. > :18:23.India. Ahead of that Grand Prix weekend, I said they had taken a

:18:24. > :18:28.gamble on the setup. They said they were not competing for wins, why not

:18:29. > :18:33.take a gamble? But does give the impression they have put their hand

:18:34. > :18:37.in a bag and pulled it back, I am sure there is more science than

:18:38. > :18:43.that. But I am sure they will look at who has had the fastest car this

:18:44. > :18:46.season, probably the Red Bull. Last year, it was statistically the

:18:47. > :18:52.McLaren. It shows what a difference a season makes. They will study the

:18:53. > :18:58.film and photography to try to get a handle on the visuals and height in

:18:59. > :19:04.pit lane, everything that can have an influence in the overall balance

:19:05. > :19:08.of the car. It is all there to exploit the grid that the tyres give

:19:09. > :19:14.you. Alonso pushing hard and he goes fourth. Gary reckons the cut off

:19:15. > :19:20.could be faster. He may well have to go for the soft option tyre. This is

:19:21. > :19:30.Pastor Maldonado, he qualified well last year, but his wheels were over.

:19:31. > :19:34.That was the penultimate bend. This was Felipe Massa, that was an

:19:35. > :19:38.oversteer. It will have cost a fraction of a second. Now we are

:19:39. > :19:44.beginning to see the quick runners go out on the soft tyres, including

:19:45. > :19:48.Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber. They have not done a runner on the

:19:49. > :19:53.harder tyres yet, we might see what has happened several times in the

:19:54. > :19:57.past, not quite a 100% up on the soft tyres, and keep this set for

:19:58. > :20:02.the second part of qualifying. We have seen them do that a couple of

:20:03. > :20:06.times. Even a used set of the soft tyres has more performance,

:20:07. > :20:10.especially if you look after them, you will really hit the tyres hard

:20:11. > :20:16.over five kilometres, which is the lap distance here on the lap you are

:20:17. > :20:20.trying to qualify on. It will not give you peak performance but it

:20:21. > :20:23.will give you more performance than running on the prime tyres this

:20:24. > :20:30.afternoon. On board with Lewis Hamilton, two propositions here, and

:20:31. > :20:33.he had one win in 2011. Pole position has not always been the

:20:34. > :20:37.kindest because when he has had it and Sebastian Vettel has had it on

:20:38. > :20:43.one occasion, the car has broken down, so it has not always been

:20:44. > :20:46.luckiest. In this first part of qualifying, he has to make sure he

:20:47. > :20:52.does not grow too wide, and he goes fastest. That may be enough on the

:20:53. > :20:55.harder compound tyres to go through to the second part of qualifying.

:20:56. > :20:58.Different tactics for Mercedes and Red Bull, and we are on board with

:20:59. > :21:16.Sebastian. You are up shifting to early.

:21:17. > :21:23.-- to early. That was to Romain Grosjean from his race engineer.

:21:24. > :21:30.Mark Webber, his lap is better than what we are seeing with Sebastian

:21:31. > :21:34.Vettel. Last corner. I do not think that was a flat-out lap because the

:21:35. > :21:39.track will be faster. He has done just enough, I think. We will see if

:21:40. > :21:46.Mark Webber has been doing the same or pushing harder. I think neither

:21:47. > :21:52.of them really have laid it on the line. Mark took more out of the car

:21:53. > :21:57.in the first two sectors and in that last sector, which I keep referring

:21:58. > :22:02.to ask the more technical aspects, he has hung back a bit. But that

:22:03. > :22:07.should be a bit to see them come to believe through to the next part of

:22:08. > :22:13.qualifying. -- that should be enough to see them through. Pastor

:22:14. > :22:21.Maldonado in seventh place, but this will change a great deal. Set

:22:22. > :22:26.yourself up for another time lap. That is interesting, it is unlikely

:22:27. > :22:31.we will need to. Kimi Raikkonen has gone faster than the Red Bull

:22:32. > :22:39.drivers. To my mind coming he has just come into the pits. Pastor

:22:40. > :22:44.Maldonado is in fifth, just to -- Esteban Gutierrez is in the drop

:22:45. > :22:50.zone. Still 2.5 minutes to go. Romain Grosjean going very fast.

:22:51. > :22:54.This is quick, he goes second to Kimi Raikkonen. The Lotus cars are

:22:55. > :22:59.first and second. Nico Hulkenberg is in fourth race and everybody is

:23:00. > :23:07.using the soft compound tyres except Lewis Hamilton. He did that time

:23:08. > :23:10.earlier and we will see what he decides to do. He is back on track

:23:11. > :23:17.but he is on the harder compound tyre, Valtteri Bottas is in seventh

:23:18. > :23:21.place. Williams looked stronger in practice and they have reverted to a

:23:22. > :23:27.non-blown diffuser as a result of testing on Friday. That is a bit of

:23:28. > :23:32.a surprise. Max Chilton is currently quicker than his team-mate but we

:23:33. > :23:39.still have the final runs to go and both of the Caterham cars are faster

:23:40. > :23:47.than Marussia at the moment. He is 21st. He is not using the blown

:23:48. > :23:50.diffuser, which uses the exhaust energy from the car. Fernando Alonso

:23:51. > :23:58.has gone quickest in the first sector and he will be relying on the

:23:59. > :24:01.older technology, the difference in SB is between the floor and the

:24:02. > :24:08.speed over the rear wing, to generate downforce -- difference in

:24:09. > :24:12.speed. This is Adrian Sutil in the drop zone, 17th place. Traffic ahead

:24:13. > :24:20.does not make life easy, this is a difficult area. Hamilton is on soft

:24:21. > :24:24.tyres. He is not going for a different strategy. They are playing

:24:25. > :24:32.safe. Kimi Raikkonen has done his fastest lap so far, it in the pits.

:24:33. > :24:35.Adrian Sutil is in 12th. He will want more to feel comfortable.

:24:36. > :24:41.Jenson Button is on a good lap. And Fernando Alonso is fastest in the

:24:42. > :24:45.first sector and he has put together a better middle sector than he has

:24:46. > :24:52.done so far. As Jenson Button got more pace? A good lap so far. He is

:24:53. > :24:58.in seventh place and I think you will be relatively happy. Sergio

:24:59. > :25:04.Perez first. He goes a bit quicker, he is in sixth place. Nico Rosberg

:25:05. > :25:10.is second-fastest. That will split the Lotus cars. And that is Fernando

:25:11. > :25:15.Alonso. How does this compare? Out of nowhere, Marie showing no pace

:25:16. > :25:21.early on and now he goes second-fastest. He is about four

:25:22. > :25:27.tenths down in that last set. We are in the last corner here.

:25:28. > :25:36.Incredible, the downforce they generate at low speed. Felipe Massa

:25:37. > :25:39.goes fastest of all. It means in the dropzone, Adrian Sutil, Lewis

:25:40. > :25:53.Hamilton, Giedo van der Garde, Charles pick and Jules Bianchi. --

:25:54. > :25:57.Charles Pic. Fernando -- pantomime -- Pastor Maldonado comes around to

:25:58. > :26:02.complete his lap. His team-mate Valtteri Bottas is already in 12th

:26:03. > :26:06.place and Pastor Maldonado does improve. The track is getting

:26:07. > :26:10.quicker as the temperature dropped, a 35 degrees temperature, and that

:26:11. > :26:16.will be making a difference to everybody. And the cut-off time has

:26:17. > :26:21.got quicker than we expected. Lewis Hamilton is getting out of the drop

:26:22. > :26:26.zone and he does it in style! He goes fastest. It means Gutierrez and

:26:27. > :26:32.Adrian Sutil or out, they have seen the chequered flag. It is one Sauber

:26:33. > :26:39.and one Force India to join the two Caterham cars and the two Marussia

:26:40. > :26:43.cars. Giedo van der Garde has qualified everybody out of the young

:26:44. > :26:50.teams, the Dutch driver has done a good job. Jules Bianchi just behind

:26:51. > :26:54.him. Jules Bianchi will have a five place penalty for a gearbox change.

:26:55. > :27:04.Surprise that Adrian Sutil has not made it through, or Esteban

:27:05. > :27:07.Gutierrez. That is out, Adrian. Those that are out at Esteban

:27:08. > :27:17.Gutierrez, Adrian Sutil, Giedo van der Garde, Jules Bianchi, Charles

:27:18. > :27:22.Pic, and Jules Bianchi. So Adrian Sutil was the loser in

:27:23. > :27:26.that one. Big loser because he had to track position and track time, he

:27:27. > :27:30.was one of the last cars on the track which meant he should have

:27:31. > :27:36.been faster. But put it into context, his team, Force India,

:27:37. > :27:42.needs to finish in front of Sauber and Toro Rosso. It is a big fight

:27:43. > :27:45.and that is a big mistake. He was four tenths slower than Paul

:27:46. > :27:51.di Resta so he will not be happy, and were Red Bull holding back a

:27:52. > :27:55.bit? I was impressed the way Lewis Hamilton dictated. He did it at the

:27:56. > :28:00.last moment which you would expect, the master craftsman and sporting

:28:01. > :28:03.character. It has always been a fight here between Sebastian Vettel

:28:04. > :28:07.and Hamilton, let's hope we have a fight this weekend!

:28:08. > :28:13.Let's see how it continues, this is Q2. The second part of qualifying is

:28:14. > :28:17.underway. Paul di Resta is first, interesting

:28:18. > :28:22.when you consider it it was his team-mate who failed to make it

:28:23. > :28:28.through. The track is getting quicker as the track temperatures

:28:29. > :28:31.reduce and we saw fast times. The track is changing so much, one

:28:32. > :28:42.degree of temperature, next the difference. -- that makes 10% of the

:28:43. > :28:47.difference. Adrian Sutil. It is incredibly competitive. Lewis

:28:48. > :28:52.Hamilton took a lot out of his tyres and Red Bull did a gentle lap,

:28:53. > :28:59.Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber, but Hamilton went for it. Red Bull

:29:00. > :29:03.drive to make sure they are not taking too much of the tyres. -- too

:29:04. > :29:12.much out of the tyres. The next session will be interesting. This is

:29:13. > :29:16.the one session that really counts, probably better than the pole

:29:17. > :29:21.position session. To get into the top ten, 16 cars are battling for

:29:22. > :29:25.it. It is so close and that one tenth can make a massive difference.

:29:26. > :29:32.We will see who manages to make it through. Jenson Button is onto a lap

:29:33. > :29:38.now. He comes down toward the chicane. Heading towards turn seven,

:29:39. > :29:42.an amphitheatre, a grandstand on the outside. A crucial corner because it

:29:43. > :29:48.goes on to the long straight. Crucial to get a good launch. And

:29:49. > :29:55.DRS is available. In qualifying, it is neutralised. It is not there to

:29:56. > :30:00.help overtaking, it is part of the regulations. But on race day, it is

:30:01. > :30:05.crucial to stay out of the DRS zone or you get yourselves within that

:30:06. > :30:13.one second activation window. This is the second DRS own here.

:30:14. > :30:20.I have had a quick word with some of the guys at Ferrari, they are saying

:30:21. > :30:24.they are actually quite relieved. After FP3 this morning when neither

:30:25. > :30:28.of their cars was in the top ten, they thought they were staring down

:30:29. > :30:33.the barrel of a gun. They seem much happier. Both cars in the top five

:30:34. > :30:39.in Q1. Importantingly, both rear ends much more stable than they were

:30:40. > :30:43.either this morning or yesterday. Hopefully they have made progress.

:30:44. > :30:49.Stable rear end, number one requirement of a racing driver.

:30:50. > :30:53.Jenson Button making his way round. He has always gone well here, he

:30:54. > :31:08.finished third on three occasion, second fastest at the moment, Paul

:31:09. > :31:13.di Resta. The majority of the corn remembers 100 kilometers an hour, or

:31:14. > :31:17.less. A corner is a corner. You have to tackle it to complete your lap.

:31:18. > :31:22.It is not the same feeling of reward for the race driver. They like fast

:31:23. > :31:27.corners, where the car is literally being forced into the track. It

:31:28. > :31:32.gives an amazing feeling of grip, therefore cornering speed. Webber

:31:33. > :31:36.has gone second fastest. Everybody is using a used set of the soft

:31:37. > :31:40.tyre. The soft tyre holding up better than it did last time out in

:31:41. > :31:46.India. Now Raikkonen goes quickest? We will see those times continue to

:31:47. > :31:50.drop. That is a little bit shy of what Lewis Hamilton did, it's about

:31:51. > :31:55.three tenths from Hamilton's lap which was just nudging against the

:31:56. > :32:00.pole position of last year. Nico Rosberg now. Different style to

:32:01. > :32:10.Lewis Hamilton. Tends to work the car harder, but still extracts very

:32:11. > :32:15.similar lap times, fascinating this driver pairing. Just coming under

:32:16. > :32:22.the bridge. Another shot from the roof of the hotel there from that

:32:23. > :32:27.grid shell roof. You will see it starting to light up as the lights

:32:28. > :32:36.come on, as we go into darkness. Rosberg on a good lap. 1: 40.4.

:32:37. > :32:42.Fastest lap of the day. He did his last shift from first to second.

:32:43. > :32:46.Whether it was a late decision on his side or whether it is a way of

:32:47. > :32:49.energising the floor and getting the best out of the engine we will find

:32:50. > :32:57.out in time. That is interesting to see. Here comes the Ferrari then of

:32:58. > :33:01.Felipe Massa. He does 1: 41.2. That is what they will have to do. Maybe

:33:02. > :33:06.that isn't quite enough. Let us see what Alonso is looking like, into

:33:07. > :33:11.the final turn himself. Across the line 1: 41.5. That might not be

:33:12. > :33:15.enough. No. He was a long time off the power. As he came through the

:33:16. > :33:19.second last turn, he clipped the inside kerb a bit too hard. He was

:33:20. > :33:23.hesitant getting to full power. Again, as he rolled through the apex

:33:24. > :33:30.of the last turn he was slow to full power. Hamilton just shading his

:33:31. > :33:39.team-mate Rosberg, Vettel comes up three times short. Lewis Hamilton

:33:40. > :33:42.has been setting these times in one or two, interestingly enough, sector

:33:43. > :33:47.three where it hasn't quite worked for him. That is what we will keep

:33:48. > :33:50.an eye on as we go through the rest of the qualifying. Kimi on the

:33:51. > :34:00.radio. It is very close for a number of

:34:01. > :34:06.drivers there, isn't it 41.1. Web we shall does a 41.1. Is that safe

:34:07. > :34:12.enough? He may have to come out on a soft tyre. Vettel has done it

:34:13. > :34:15.faster. Rosberg, Hamilton, Vettel and maybe Raikkonen should be safe.

:34:16. > :34:19.I would think the others may have to go for their second set of the soft

:34:20. > :34:24.tyre. Well, you mentioned earlier about the track evolution and how

:34:25. > :34:29.that caught some drivers out, certainly Grosjean, famously in

:34:30. > :34:32.India. The sun has now firmly set, track temperature will continue to

:34:33. > :34:38.drop. It's not so much about the tarmac, the air temperature, it goes

:34:39. > :34:44.away quickly. The engine can breathe more efficiently and unleashes the

:34:45. > :34:51.horsepower that you lose in the hot conditions. Nico Rosberg's car is

:34:52. > :34:54.pushed out, it must have been onto the scrutineering bridge for them to

:34:55. > :34:58.have then picked it up and put it on the trolley and taken it to his

:34:59. > :35:02.garage. You would get the car fired up and drive it the short distance

:35:03. > :35:09.to your pit. They have decided not to do that. That could be for heat

:35:10. > :35:15.soak reasons on the engine. There is no fan on the enI think so. You rely

:35:16. > :35:22.on the air passing through to cool the engine.

:35:23. > :35:28.The most difficult time for the driver is when you sit in the

:35:29. > :35:35.garage. The heat soaks into the cockpit. That is why they have the

:35:36. > :35:40.cooling fans blowing to try and keep the temperature down. As we watch

:35:41. > :35:44.Paul di Resta. This needs to be a good lap from Resta who was happy

:35:45. > :35:47.with his performance in India. Both cars were in the points last time

:35:48. > :35:51.out. That was the first time for auto while this season. Nice and

:35:52. > :35:56.tidy through five and six and into, as you mentioned earlier, the

:35:57. > :36:00.natural Amphitheatre they have created in turn seven, I guess that

:36:01. > :36:05.means it's not natural, they have created. It this unnatural

:36:06. > :36:09.Amphitheatre which leaves them off down the main street. Huge amount of

:36:10. > :36:15.energy as they break into turn eight. A new set of options. One

:36:16. > :36:19.#250i78 lap. Clicks the front wing, how much is that to a driver? Down

:36:20. > :36:22.to the individual team to decide how much that is. I would imagine a

:36:23. > :36:27.minimum click would be about a quarter of a degree. It could be

:36:28. > :36:32.more, of course. I would suspect he is looking for just over half a

:36:33. > :36:43.degree of front wing. It puts more load on that front axe sill. --

:36:44. > :36:47.axel. Back out in a moment. Still in the pits at the moment is Webber. We

:36:48. > :36:51.are watching Paul di Resta as he tries to break into that top ten.

:36:52. > :36:59.Best qualifying performance for Resta this year, fifth on the grade

:37:00. > :37:03.in Bahrain and Belgium in the wet conditions. We thought he might

:37:04. > :37:08.start the race from pole position, it wasn't quite to be. He hasn't

:37:09. > :37:15.been in the top ten since that Belgium race. He goes sixth for the

:37:16. > :37:20.moment 1: 41.1. He will be right on the bubble with that lap time. Here

:37:21. > :37:24.is Romain Grosjean. Had problems yesterday, a broken break disk, it

:37:25. > :37:29.hampered his chance to do a quick run on a soft tyre? I don't think he

:37:30. > :37:32.will be too disappointed by that. The track evolves so much. It's a

:37:33. > :37:36.question of being in the right place at the right time with that balance

:37:37. > :37:40.to the drivers' liking at this moment in history. Let us see what

:37:41. > :37:46.the lap is, good one I think. Across the line, he is fifth 1: 40.9. That

:37:47. > :37:52.should be enough. What do you have for us? That lap time is identical

:37:53. > :37:56.to his team-mate Kimi Raikkonen. It amused me that once wit bitten twice

:37:57. > :38:01.shy, Kimi Raikkonen is the last guy to come out. I thought, Lotus are

:38:02. > :38:08.going to leave it and hope he will get through. After what happened to

:38:09. > :38:17.Grosjean when he qualified 17th last week. From Fernando Alonso. He ran

:38:18. > :38:22.wide on the way in. In frustration he got early on the power and spun

:38:23. > :38:36.the rear wheels. That continued down into turn out. This -- eight. He is

:38:37. > :38:41.a second down. He has given up on this lap. He will try and save the

:38:42. > :38:45.tyres. Looking at our circuit tracker here. Maldonado in the

:38:46. > :38:53.Williams behind him. He may well need to let him through. Well, his

:38:54. > :38:58.girlfriend waits in the pits, Fernando Alonso will have to have

:38:59. > :39:04.another run at it to make sure he got past what we expect to be the

:39:05. > :39:12.cutoff time. It seems like you can get a couple of laps out of these

:39:13. > :39:17.tyres other than in India. Maldonado looking fiesty, as you can expect.

:39:18. > :39:22.Slithers out of the last corner. 1: 41.3. That is not enough. He is

:39:23. > :39:25.still down in 11th place. This is a more promising performance from

:39:26. > :39:30.Williams. Let us see how it works out at the end. The time is ticking

:39:31. > :39:34.away. Alonso is across the line. So it Raikkonen. Bottas following. He

:39:35. > :39:39.has another lap, Bottas in behind his team-mate there. A lot of

:39:40. > :39:49.pressure on Fernando Alonso. He has broad shoulders. Claire Williams

:39:50. > :39:54.watching her team's progress. Let comes out. As they cross the line,

:39:55. > :39:59.that is their last opportunity then, Jenson Button all the way down in

:40:00. > :40:04.16th place. Will he break into the top 10? He goes ninth, it's not very

:40:05. > :40:12.safe, he is in there at the moment. 1: 41.2. Hulkenberg fourth, 1: 40.9.

:40:13. > :40:20.Three tenths of a second separating Hulkenberg and Button. They are

:40:21. > :40:25.separated by five places. Daniel Ricciardo goes fourth. 1: 40.8.

:40:26. > :40:30.Brilliant effort by him. Webber up to third. Massa pushed down.

:40:31. > :40:36.Perez-Sala improves, fifth. Button is pushed out. Jenson Button is not

:40:37. > :40:41.in the top ten, nor is Paul di Resta who is squeezed out by Felipe Massa.

:40:42. > :40:45.No comeback for Jenson Button. He has seen the flag. Paul di Resta is

:40:46. > :40:51.able to fight back. Let us see if this is enough for Paul di Resta to

:40:52. > :40:55.get back inside the top ten, no it's not. We are waiting for a couch

:40:56. > :41:00.cars. Alonso is the key one, who is down in 16th. Quicker in the middle

:41:01. > :41:04.sector, not that quick in the first sector. He dropped two tenths. This

:41:05. > :41:09.has to be mighty if he will make it through. Felipe Massa is in tenth.

:41:10. > :41:13.He will push his own team-mate out if he does it. He hasn't. He has

:41:14. > :41:18.failed. For the first time in 2013, Fernando Alonso has failed to get

:41:19. > :41:23.into the top ten. He has been beaten by his team-mate, Felipe Massa

:41:24. > :41:27.achieved. It Alonso has not. Paul di Resta, Button, Jean-Eric Vergne and

:41:28. > :41:32.the two Williams have also failed to make it through. The big story there

:41:33. > :41:38.is Fernando Alonso is not in the top ten whereas the likes of Daniel

:41:39. > :41:42.Ricciardo and Nico Hulkenberg are. That lap from Ricciardo, again

:41:43. > :41:46.another stunning effort from the Australian who moves to Red Bull

:41:47. > :41:50.next year. That will put a smile on Red Bull's racing face as they feel

:41:51. > :41:53.they are being validated in their decision to give him the chance to

:41:54. > :41:57.move up to the top team. It remains to be seen how he handles the

:41:58. > :42:06.pressure of expectation. Great performance.

:42:07. > :42:18.He has not maded it through, his team-mate has. Perez-Sala has got

:42:19. > :42:24.through in fifth place. Alonso the fourth fastest Ferrari engine car.

:42:25. > :42:29.Alonso missing out. We have lost Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso.

:42:30. > :42:40.Two World Champions out then in the battle for the top ten.

:42:41. > :42:47.Fernando Alonso out. They have had traction problems, what is going on?

:42:48. > :42:51.A sign of the times. I don't know what is going on with this Ferrari

:42:52. > :42:55.team. It is not good enough. We heard from Fernando Alonso saying he

:42:56. > :43:00.is in the form of his life. Yet, he has pathetic qualifying like this.

:43:01. > :43:04.It's not acceptable. Fan base of Ferrari is massive, particularly

:43:05. > :43:08.here, Ferrari World is around the corner. It must be embarrassing from

:43:09. > :43:12.him. Let us hear from Fernando Alonso now. The I'm sure you know

:43:13. > :43:15.you have not been out in this session so far this season, what was

:43:16. > :43:19.the difference today, where did it go wrong? We were not quick enough

:43:20. > :43:24.all weekend and we were not quick enough in qualifying. The laps were

:43:25. > :43:31.not completely clean. It was enough to be out, but sometimes it helps to

:43:32. > :43:37.start with new tyres in position 11. Hopefully tomorrow is one of those

:43:38. > :43:40.days. How ragged was the car feeling out there today? The car has not

:43:41. > :43:45.been so good all weekend. Both Ferraris were struggling all weekend

:43:46. > :43:49.in practice and qualifying was no different. Shaping up to be an

:43:50. > :43:55.interesting final qualifying session. Here is Q3.

:43:56. > :44:02.COMMENTATOR: We are pretty much in darkness for the final part of

:44:03. > :44:07.qualifying. We have never seen an accident down there in that tunnel.

:44:08. > :44:11.It makes we wonder if we will see something during the course of a

:44:12. > :44:15.Grand Prix. It shouldn't happen in qualifyi I remember when the circuit

:44:16. > :44:20.manager, who is overseeing the design and development of the track

:44:21. > :44:23.in the early dayses, told us in great enthusiasm, the Toro Rossso is

:44:24. > :44:28.dragging its plank, he was telling us with great enthusiasm they had

:44:29. > :44:33.this unique under pass to rejoin the circuit. Of course, one thing they

:44:34. > :44:40.forgot to cater for is a racing car under a racetrack in a tunnel isn't

:44:41. > :44:44.great viewing. I suggested having an over pass might be more of a

:44:45. > :44:48.spectacle. They do disappear from view somewhat. We are into the final

:44:49. > :44:53.top ten shoot-out to see who will end up on pole position. Mercedes

:44:54. > :44:58.looking quick, can they take the fight to Red Bull today? Nico

:44:59. > :45:03.Rosberg has a new set of softs. Sebastian Vettel as a new set. Lewis

:45:04. > :45:07.Hamilton has a set that has done one warmup. It will be trolling see who

:45:08. > :45:11.take what is strategy. If you are going to try and qualify on pole you

:45:12. > :45:15.need a new set of tyre. I don't know what everybody is up to. It was so

:45:16. > :45:20.close, as you said earlier on, the level of competition, to get into

:45:21. > :45:25.that top ten, Fernando Alonso, what was he, he was a fraction slower

:45:26. > :45:30.than his team-mate it made the difference, Massa in the top ten,

:45:31. > :45:34.Alonso isn't. It's a very, very close. I would expect Paul to be

:45:35. > :45:40.nipping into the 39s, just about. Again, maybe people going out there

:45:41. > :45:43.to qualify on the medium tyre. Yes, maybe we will see a similar story to

:45:44. > :45:50.what we saw in India. It will be quite a promising shoot-out. We will

:45:51. > :45:55.keep an eye on this guy, Romain Grosjean, he didn't qualify last

:45:56. > :45:59.well in India because they got their calculations wrong. He started 17th

:46:00. > :46:14.but finished in third. This is Lewis Hamilton. Let's watch

:46:15. > :46:18.this to see how effective it is. We gather that Romain Grosjean does

:46:19. > :46:22.have a problem with the vibration on the car, he had this problem

:46:23. > :46:27.yesterday. That is a concern for Lotus. Hamilton is through. He

:46:28. > :46:34.bounces over a bit, you do not see that often. The car is dragging its

:46:35. > :46:42.front wing. A lot of role in that Mercedes. Turn seven, and out of

:46:43. > :46:46.that. What have you got, Tom? An update on Romain Grosjean, he had

:46:47. > :46:50.that vibration yesterday and they changed the suspension on all four

:46:51. > :46:54.corners so they will not able to explain why it is back again.

:46:55. > :47:00.That is a worry and we hope it will not affect his qualifying.

:47:01. > :47:04.He misses the apex by a fraction and that will not cost too much time. We

:47:05. > :47:12.are on board with Lewis Hamilton. The front wing camera. Towards

:47:13. > :47:20.another crucial breaking area, 1011. -- turn 11. They may have an

:47:21. > :47:30.explanation about Romain Grosjean. He took some concrete paint from the

:47:31. > :47:35.garage when he did a wheel spin! I did not understand concrete paint,

:47:36. > :47:40.I have not bought that before. I have never bought paint before! I

:47:41. > :47:46.guess he has picked it up in the tyres, the paint in the garage.

:47:47. > :47:52.That makes sense! It sounds like something to send the new boy in the

:47:53. > :47:58.team to go and buy! Lewis Hamilton goes fastest. Nico

:47:59. > :48:05.Rosberg, exactly what he did earlier. Mark Webber is not as

:48:06. > :48:09.quick. Good opening gambit from both Mercedes, but Sebastian Vettel does

:48:10. > :48:17.it by four tenths! Over three tenths. Another magic lap from

:48:18. > :48:23.Sebastian Vettel. Romain Grosjean. That'll still has another set of

:48:24. > :48:31.tyres to use, as does Nico Rosberg -- Sebastian Vettel.

:48:32. > :48:37.Felipe Massa is making his way down the pit lane, as is Nico Hulkenberg

:48:38. > :48:41.and Mark Webber. This is a final chance to see what they can do in

:48:42. > :48:47.qualifying. We are on board with Mark Webber as he comes out of the

:48:48. > :48:52.tunnel. Nobody else out there except for Nico Hulkenberg ahead of him.

:48:53. > :48:57.Trying to get clear space. Nico Rosberg coming out onto the circuit.

:48:58. > :49:05.Kimi Raikkonen has joined in, as has Daniel Ricciardo. And finally,

:49:06. > :49:09.Sergio Perez. He moved ahead of Adrian Sutil last time out in India.

:49:10. > :49:14.Romain Grosjean is heading down the pit lane. It looks as though

:49:15. > :49:23.everybody is heading out, reassuringly. The only option tyres?

:49:24. > :49:28.-- are they on the option tyres? I think everybody has gone on the soft

:49:29. > :49:32.tyres. They are not doing what they did in India, it is a different

:49:33. > :49:39.strategy. The soft tyre is holding up well. They will probably get

:49:40. > :49:45.maybe 15 lamp -- maps out the soft tyre. Mark Webber tries to bring in

:49:46. > :49:50.the tyres. How he drives this lap is crucial as to hide the -- as to how

:49:51. > :49:56.the temperature and balance will be at the start of the lap. They will

:49:57. > :50:01.have rehearsed this base on information they have had -- based.

:50:02. > :50:09.They will be monitoring the tyre temperatures and the driver will be

:50:10. > :50:13.advised. They will want to start the lap with the perfect amount of air

:50:14. > :50:18.in the tyres so that when he hit the brakes, it does not bottom out and

:50:19. > :50:25.cause understeer and instability. The lights on the hotel now shown in

:50:26. > :50:29.-- now shining in their glory and Mark Webber comes out of the final

:50:30. > :50:33.corner. Nico Hulkenberg ahead of him in the Sauber and another good

:50:34. > :50:39.opportunity, his seventh time in the top ten. He did not finish last time

:50:40. > :50:46.out, because of problems with the brakes. Mark Webber is under one

:50:47. > :50:50.tenth quicker already as he approaches the chicane. That is a

:50:51. > :50:59.nice feeling, he is now too tense up. That information, he is looking

:51:00. > :51:05.down, getting confirmation. -- two tenths. He lost on the X it but he

:51:06. > :51:12.is still up on the lap, and that helps you to build confidence. --

:51:13. > :51:18.exit. He needs to find eight tenths to get into pole position. Last

:51:19. > :51:21.year, he was faster than Sebastian Vettel in qualifying who lost his

:51:22. > :51:26.lap time because they did not have enough fuel for the end of the

:51:27. > :51:33.session. Sebastian Vettel had to start from the pit lane. Mark Webber

:51:34. > :51:37.is fastest in the first two sectors. Sebastian Vettel is under two tenths

:51:38. > :51:44.slower in the first sector than Mark Webber. The final sector is tricky,

:51:45. > :51:50.Sebastian Vettel is always so fast. And that is where note -- that is

:51:51. > :51:53.when Nico Rosberg was quick. We will see what Sebastian Vettel can

:51:54. > :52:01.unleash. Mark Webber has two corners. Is this enough initially to

:52:02. > :52:15.knock Sebastian Vettel out of its perch? -- off his perch. And that

:52:16. > :52:19.was a great lap! We have to keep an eye on Nico Rosberg, he is trying to

:52:20. > :52:24.get the power down, it is not enough, he is only third. Hamilton

:52:25. > :52:30.has spun! He is not going to improve. The chequered flag is out.

:52:31. > :52:36.Not looking good, Sebastian Vettel has not been faster in any of the

:52:37. > :52:41.sect has. What he does here, this could be Mark Webber. Mark Webber

:52:42. > :52:44.comes across the line, and Mark Webber has taken pole position!

:52:45. > :52:48.Surely Romain Grosjean is on a lap so we will look at that. I do not

:52:49. > :52:54.Inc will be enough for Romain Grosjean. What is that time like? He

:52:55. > :53:01.goes seventh fastest in the background. Perez goes ninth. Good

:53:02. > :53:06.effort. But Felipe Massa is a fraction quicker, but Mark Webber

:53:07. > :53:09.has taken his second pole position of the season. And more

:53:10. > :53:16.significantly, it is his dirty career pole position, it matches the

:53:17. > :53:24.great Sir Jack Brabham, another Australian motorsport hero. But a

:53:25. > :53:33.smoky heat for Lewis Hamilton. Excellent job, nice one!

:53:34. > :53:40.What happens to Hamilton? -- what happened. The car bottomed out and

:53:41. > :53:49.he lost control. It is not hit anything. He said something failed

:53:50. > :53:56.on the rear end. That may explain why he was off-line. This was the

:53:57. > :54:03.beginning of Sebastian 's lap and he was not faster in that sector. We

:54:04. > :54:08.can see Mark Webber here. Sebastian Vettel, his helmet was shaking, so a

:54:09. > :54:13.bit of frustration that he did not get the maximum out of that lap.

:54:14. > :54:18.Mark Webber has taken pole position Mercedes ahead of the new four times

:54:19. > :54:22.champion Sebastian Vettel. Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton make

:54:23. > :54:29.Mercedes second, but Kimi Reich in an ahead of Romain Grosjean. A great

:54:30. > :54:36.effort for Nico Hulkenberg in six. The likes of Jenson Button, Esteban

:54:37. > :54:43.Gutierrez, Max Chilton in the drop zone. It is Mark Webber who has

:54:44. > :54:47.taken pole position. It took a while for any pole position is to come his

:54:48. > :54:51.way through this 2013 season but he took pole position in Japan two

:54:52. > :54:57.races ago and now he has achieved the same here in Abu Dhabi, a great

:54:58. > :55:03.effort. Nico Rosberg is pretty happy with third place. But with two on

:55:04. > :55:06.top, it is Mark Webber who has taken pole position. -- but with Red Bull

:55:07. > :55:20.on top. Guess who is about to walk into the

:55:21. > :55:35.shot? Congratulations, Mark Webber, great support, the only driver under

:55:36. > :55:41.one: 40. Q3 went very well. -- 1:40. The team did a great job and it

:55:42. > :55:45.worked out well. We are going to join the lap at ternate. You were

:55:46. > :55:52.already up and you had been strong. -- ternate.

:55:53. > :56:02.A change in the brake balance, and as you say, the last sector is very

:56:03. > :56:07.important. It came our way. Took us through the chicane, a lot of low

:56:08. > :56:13.speed corners. This is like a Monaco Street section. You got taken out

:56:14. > :56:20.here a year ago, what are the emotions? Very important, corners

:56:21. > :56:27.are coming thick and fast. This next lap has been a week corner but I got

:56:28. > :56:31.it right. And watch this here, and now the last double right. To finish

:56:32. > :56:36.superfast here, it you have to get as far as you can, a bumpy X it, and

:56:37. > :56:42.dive into the last corner. A scramble to the line. That was

:56:43. > :56:48.enough. I thought that would be enough and hopefully enough for the

:56:49. > :56:53.second attempt. Look at these people, your fans, how appropriate

:56:54. > :56:58.they are here. Behind them is a sign saying, Mark, thank you for those

:56:59. > :57:04.magical moments. Can you make tomorrow magical? I have been quite

:57:05. > :57:08.good on the prime-time in the race and I am looking forward to that.

:57:09. > :57:15.These of Formula 1 fans in general and everybody has a favourite driver

:57:16. > :57:19.but there are Australians and it is a good Grand Prix and a nice

:57:20. > :57:25.atmosphere. All the best for tomorrow, thank you very much.

:57:26. > :57:36.What was the difference between you and Mark today? About a 10th. Did

:57:37. > :57:41.you get everything out of the car you could? If you ask any driver, he

:57:42. > :57:47.would say, some would say, yes, of course. That is my job. Others might

:57:48. > :57:53.tell you there is a bit more. Today, for me, there was a bit more.

:57:54. > :57:59.Whether it would have been enough, I do not know. Practice. Was pushing

:58:00. > :58:04.hard and I knew it would be close and I did a mistake so I am not

:58:05. > :58:10.proud. But life goes on and I am looking forward to tomorrow.

:58:11. > :58:17.Lewis a disappointing and surprisingly end, what happened?

:58:18. > :58:23.Through the chicane, I let go of the rear and it broke. It was on the

:58:24. > :58:27.right side and I was going on the left. I put on the power and I spun

:58:28. > :58:32.round. Unfortunate because I was up at that point. But at least

:58:33. > :58:38.tomorrow, we can carry that speed into tomorrow. What does that mean

:58:39. > :58:43.for the car heading into tomorrow? Can you do the work you need to

:58:44. > :58:49.start in that same position? The guys do a great job and hopefully we

:58:50. > :58:55.will not lose position. And overtaking is very difficult. The

:58:56. > :58:58.Red Bull is quite quick on the straight and they are so fast in

:58:59. > :59:03.general so to beat them will be tough. Frustration for Lewis

:59:04. > :59:10.Hamilton, did he realistically have a shot at pole position? I think he

:59:11. > :59:13.knew he had the upper hand on his team-mates Nico Rosberg and it is

:59:14. > :59:19.always a fascinating battle between the drivers. Can they take it to Red

:59:20. > :59:24.Bull tomorrow? I do not Inc so, they do not seem to have the ultimate

:59:25. > :59:29.speed and it does not give me great confidence -- I do not think so. Red

:59:30. > :59:35.Bull is in a class of its own. If I was Lewis, he is fighting a

:59:36. > :59:39.difficult corner. Red Bull seem to be on their own plant this weekend.

:59:40. > :59:43.Nico Rosberg said they were fighting for the second row and that is where

:59:44. > :59:50.he will stop from tomorrow, his thoughts now.

:59:51. > :59:54.Happy with how things went today? I am wheezed with third place and more

:59:55. > :59:58.was not possible because the Red Bull cars were too quick and in the

:59:59. > :00:02.last part of qualifying, they turned up performance. Was impressive. That

:00:03. > :00:06.was the goal before the weekend, to be best of the rest, we have

:00:07. > :00:12.achieved that and it is a good place to start the race tomorrow.

:00:13. > :00:18.You sounded puzzled how quickly your car seems to be able to change from

:00:19. > :00:24.being quite near the front to going out in Q2? Yeah, very puzzled, good

:00:25. > :00:28.word. This morning it was working really well. Really happy. I have

:00:29. > :00:32.been happy with the car all weekend. Then in qualifying we struggled

:00:33. > :00:39.because of the cooler temperatures. We can't get enough front end in the

:00:40. > :00:44.car I have to take so much rear wing off to try and help the balance of

:00:45. > :00:48.the car. It was nowhere near the enough. Yeah. Completely different

:00:49. > :00:54.to what I've experienced all weekend. Understandably frustrating

:00:55. > :01:00.for Jenson Button there Escude specially with Perez-Sala who will

:01:01. > :01:02.go from ninth, his team-mate? Perez-Sala outqualified him. He

:01:03. > :01:08.doesn't know what the problem was. He talks about the heat in the front

:01:09. > :01:12.tires -- tyres and taking the wing off. No-one wants to disturb their

:01:13. > :01:15.car when it is going well. It will be dark tomorrow the temperature

:01:16. > :01:19.will be lower. He has a lot of thinking to do before he decides

:01:20. > :01:24.what setup he will come out with tomorrow. It's one of those

:01:25. > :01:27.difficult sir cuts, the change in conditions, drop in temperatures,

:01:28. > :01:32.your data has to be right and have your wits about you? Consistent sill

:01:33. > :01:36.of parts that go on cart and correlation what happens at the

:01:37. > :01:39.factory and what you bring to the track is so important. It's what

:01:40. > :01:45.McLaren have struggled with all year. Jenson was comfortable with

:01:46. > :01:50.the car m the practice session and it slipped away. There is usually a

:01:51. > :01:53.reason for it. It doesn't just mistically disappear. It's all about

:01:54. > :01:58.tomorrow's race. Let us find out now. Here is the provisional grid

:01:59. > :02:04.for tomorrow's race with Ben Edwards.

:02:05. > :02:13.The two Mercedes of Rosberg and Hamilton will be on the second row,

:02:14. > :02:18.Kimi Raikkonen starts fifth, Nico Hulkenberg has his second best grid

:02:19. > :02:24.slot of year in sixth. Grosjean and Massa on row four, Perez-Sala made

:02:25. > :02:30.the top ten as did Ricciardo. Alonso is 11th with Resta in 12th. Jenson

:02:31. > :02:36.Button and Jean-Eric Vergne. The Williams are together in row eighth.

:02:37. > :02:44.Gutierrez is in 17th and Sutil in 18th.

:02:45. > :02:50.That is your provisional grid. The overwhelming surprise today was the

:02:51. > :02:57.fact that Fernando Alonso didn't make it through to the top ten?

:02:58. > :03:04.Since the Championship has been won by Sebastian the win has gone --

:03:05. > :03:09.wind has gone out of his sails. Very poor show. There are rumour he is

:03:10. > :03:14.struggling for motivation. He has said that in private meetings.

:03:15. > :03:18.Disappointing for Ferrari. Will have all the highlights tomorrow

:03:19. > :03:24.afternoon on BBC One at 4.30pm. Earlier than usual. A little

:03:25. > :03:28.sprinkling of Mark magic today. There are plenty of fanes who would

:03:29. > :03:37.like to see Mark pull the rabbit out of the hat tomorrow, see you then.

:03:38. > :03:48.-- fans.
