:01:03. > :01:11.Hello and welcome back to a very soggy Brazil. In is Interlagos, the

:01:12. > :01:14.rain is pouring down. It did stop briefly in between the practice

:01:15. > :01:21.session, it was lovely. Practise session about to resume. It is

:01:22. > :01:27.raining heavier. It is heavy. The way the tyre rules work, each drive

:01:28. > :01:32.gets two seats of each. If yous you set on the Friday it gets replaced.

:01:33. > :01:36.They will be reluctant to use any other set. With the rain you will

:01:37. > :01:40.see some of the cars going out of wet tyre, the weather tomorrow it's

:01:41. > :01:44.a bit of the same. But it changes quickly. The Mercedes with the

:01:45. > :01:49.fastest cars in first practise session, they look like they could

:01:50. > :01:54.show something this weekend, and try and help them in the Constructors

:01:55. > :01:58.Championship. Let us look at the drivers standings, because we know

:01:59. > :02:02.Vettel has scored his fourth world Drivers' Championship, and last time

:02:03. > :02:09.out, Fernando Alonso secured second place, but the battle for third is

:02:10. > :02:13.fairly fierce. Hamilton six points ahead of Mark Webber. Kimi Raikkonen

:02:14. > :02:17.out of the batting. Do you think that Mark Webber on his last weekend

:02:18. > :02:21.in Formula One could sneak ahead of Hamilton? There is every chance. I

:02:22. > :02:24.am sure the Red Bull will be good. Webber is quick, he wants to go out

:02:25. > :02:30.with the win. The interesting thing is Fernando Alonso, he said after

:02:31. > :02:35.the last race, that he had won the non-Red Bull Championship, he thinks

:02:36. > :02:42.that the Red Bull is a special car. In the Constructors Championship the

:02:43. > :02:46.battle very much alive after. Lotus not out of it completely. They are

:02:47. > :02:51.18 points behind. It is important this weekend, Gary, that both

:02:52. > :02:55.drivers perform for their teams. You need two drivers scoring points for

:02:56. > :03:00.the constructor, this is a big part of the Championship there is 10

:03:01. > :03:07.million dollars per position. If you can nick one of those positions and

:03:08. > :03:12.be $10 million ripper that is a lot of money for next year. And Felipe

:03:13. > :03:17.Massa in his last race for Ferrari, here on his home circuit the fan

:03:18. > :03:23.also go crazy for him It is. He has been accepted well by the

:03:24. > :03:27.Brazilianian fan, Ayrton Senna was the man but Felipe Massa has filled

:03:28. > :03:33.that space in, you know, it will be sad to see him here, in Brazil. He

:03:34. > :03:38.will be trying hard. Ben Edwards and Tony are in the commentary box,

:03:39. > :03:42.drier than us, what is the outlook? We have the best seats in the house.

:03:43. > :03:47.Looking from the back of the Grandstand to the pits. We will see

:03:48. > :03:55.a little wet weather running. Things aren't working too well for Pirelli.

:03:56. > :03:59.? Sno. I had a hard time last year and they hope this year will be

:04:00. > :04:03.better but the elements haven't helped So the prototype tyre is not

:04:04. > :04:06.going to get any running at all, they are hoping to get a test in

:04:07. > :04:11.before Christmas at Bahrain, so it maybe that will give them the

:04:12. > :04:15.chance, but it hasn't been an ideal day for preparation for all of the

:04:16. > :04:18.teams. It so so hard to believe the weather, we know Brazil is like

:04:19. > :04:22.this, this is the first real wet weekend we have had in ages. We

:04:23. > :04:25.haven't had a lot of wet weekends this season, so it will be

:04:26. > :04:29.interesting to see, some cars do come to the front when it gets wet,

:04:30. > :04:34.so interesting to see how that, the outcome of that. All will be

:04:35. > :04:39.revealed over the next one-and-a-half hours and Ben and

:04:40. > :04:46.Tony are standing by to talk us through commentary of F B2. -- FP 2.

:04:47. > :04:52.Red Bull Racing, congratulations to them. It is good to see the support

:04:53. > :04:58.for all the teams. Ferrari will have a lot of support with Felipe Massa

:04:59. > :05:07.looking to finish his time with Ferrari in style. Nico Hulkenberg

:05:08. > :05:12.waiting to ironed out where he will be racing next year. He said it is

:05:13. > :05:17.the passion of the fans here, he loves the vibrancy of the place. It

:05:18. > :05:21.has suited him for some reason, he got the pole position in the

:05:22. > :05:25.Williams which came out of nowhere, it was a session deck Tayed by

:05:26. > :05:32.weather and the the the same sorry -- story when he led so much last

:05:33. > :05:38.year. It was wet for much of the race. It was as It was as you say a

:05:39. > :05:45.mixed condition session when he put it on the pole, it was a fabulous

:05:46. > :05:48.opportunity lap. He had a race in a car that obviously in the dry wasn't

:05:49. > :05:55.going to be competitive like it had been in qualifying, and they needed

:05:56. > :06:00.points. Speaking to Tom McCulloch, his everyone engineer that day who

:06:01. > :06:04.is at Sauber now, he said he had instructions to get out of the last

:06:05. > :06:13.corner, protect his position and he said he did brilliant to keep cube

:06:14. > :06:18.ter behind him. I think that thought that was a fantastic drive. He has

:06:19. > :06:22.done it numerous times. Fernando Alonso reck lining in the

:06:23. > :06:26.back of the -- reck Kleining in the Ferrari garage. He has a record of

:06:27. > :06:30.seven podiums without a victory, that is the most podiums for any of

:06:31. > :06:34.the drivers to have had at a circuit without having had a win at that

:06:35. > :06:40.particular track, but he has won the title here a couples couple of time,

:06:41. > :06:46.he has lost it as well, to Sebastian Vettel, he ended up losing by three

:06:47. > :06:50.point, he lost out in the 2007, when he Raikkonen and Lewis Hamilton all

:06:51. > :06:55.arrived with the chance of winning the Championship but it didn't come

:06:56. > :07:01.together and Kimi nicked it. That time he was 17 points with two to go

:07:02. > :07:05.and he came and Felipe paid his part in that, helped him out. Yes,

:07:06. > :07:09.absolutely. Let him have the victory, that could

:07:10. > :07:15.have been three wins for him. He had three pole positions, but as you

:07:16. > :07:19.say, he gave up his position to Raikkonen. And I suppose, that is

:07:20. > :07:24.part and parcel of why Felipe has been such a strong player at

:07:25. > :07:27.Ferrari. Absolutely. That is tremendously appreciated. If you

:07:28. > :07:30.think of the following year, one of the most impressive things I have

:07:31. > :07:34.seen is the way he handled the disappointment of not winning that

:07:35. > :07:38.title against Lewis Hamilton. He thought for 20 seconds he was the

:07:39. > :07:43.World Champion, and if you imagine, you know, the gut wrenching

:07:44. > :07:46.disappointment, and the way he handled himself, in the post race

:07:47. > :07:51.press conference, magnanimity he showed, you know, towards Lewis, I

:07:52. > :07:55.thought he was just one of the best pieces of sportsmanship I have seen.

:07:56. > :08:01.The way he was on the podium. Brilliant. There is Brands Hatch.

:08:02. > :08:05.Never managed to -- ruebs Barrichello. Probably the most

:08:06. > :08:14.disappointing one and you can hear the reception she is getting. 2003,

:08:15. > :08:19.he passed David Coulthard for the lead of the race and ran out of fuel

:08:20. > :08:23.of all things and he was so out of luck, he, he had some good

:08:24. > :08:28.performances in very rows different cars, in the brawn, but he never had

:08:29. > :08:31.the opportunity to actually win the race. Felipe Massa getting a few

:08:32. > :08:37.photographs together with his crew. That is lovely to see. And the

:08:38. > :08:48.special crash helmet colour scheme. I know Tom Clarkson was talking to

:08:49. > :08:53.de la Rosa and what he told Tom was he is so honest, he is very

:08:54. > :08:56.straight. He will say whether it is his fault or something wrong with

:08:57. > :09:01.the car or if he doesn't agree with what somebody has done, he is

:09:02. > :09:04.straightforward, and he says he thinks Williams will appreciate when

:09:05. > :09:08.he goes to Williams next year. If there is one environment where that

:09:09. > :09:13.will be appreciated as much as anywhere that is Williams. Nobody

:09:14. > :09:18.likes drivers making excuses and what have you and honesty is

:09:19. > :09:22.something they adore. It is good to see. We have plenty of fans hoping

:09:23. > :09:25.to see some cars on circuit. You wonder at the moment, because the

:09:26. > :09:30.rain is coming down heavily, so the track is open, but there is no

:09:31. > :09:34.activity on circuit right now, and it doesn't look like anybody is

:09:35. > :09:38.getting close, so we are getting the family pictures. It is like a

:09:39. > :09:44.wedding! We are getting the family photographs. Felipe Massa in the

:09:45. > :09:48.back of the garage. Yeah, a real festive atmosphere down there at

:09:49. > :09:52.Ferrari. We were asking you for your best moments and worst moments of in

:09:53. > :09:57.season. Thank you for replying to us.

:09:58. > :10:02.I will read out a few more. We were asking you for your favourite

:10:03. > :10:06.memories of Mark Webber. How ability a few favourry memories of Felipe

:10:07. > :10:10.Massa at Ferrari? What do you remember about Felipe's career at

:10:11. > :10:13.Ferrari that you can tell us about. We will try and broadcast a few as

:10:14. > :10:17.we go through the course of the programme.

:10:18. > :10:20.Get in touch with us and give us some of your best memories of Felipe

:10:21. > :10:26.Massa at Ferrari. He started his career at Sauber in Formula One, but

:10:27. > :10:31.he is coming to the end of nearly 140 Grand Prix with the Ferrari

:10:32. > :10:38.team. Fantastic performance from him. Max Chilton is about to go out

:10:39. > :10:42.on track. Let us go down to the pits.

:10:43. > :10:46.Pat, your title chief technical officer, you have really just joined

:10:47. > :10:52.the team, how is it going? Pretty well. A couple of months in now, had

:10:53. > :10:57.a good chance to look at things, look at the very many good things we

:10:58. > :11:02.have, but you know, we haven't had the results this year, and we need

:11:03. > :11:10.to improve our, you know, in a lot of areas to get those result,

:11:11. > :11:19.particularly next year. In Austin you got some points. Third fastest

:11:20. > :11:24.in the race. A to good run from Valtteri Bottas. Everyone got the

:11:25. > :11:29.fast laps towards the end. And the way he defended against Rosberg and

:11:30. > :11:33.pulled away from him, it was very pleasing to see that, and I think it

:11:34. > :11:37.shows we got the car working better, it was able to use its tyres better

:11:38. > :11:41.and yes, it is starting to come together. So for next year, a

:11:42. > :11:45.National Lottery of changes in the car and the power unit, how is that

:11:46. > :11:50.facing up? Well, it keeps you awake at night, that is for sure, with the

:11:51. > :11:54.amount there is to do. You know, I honestly think in 30 odd years I

:11:55. > :11:59.have been in Formula One it is the biggest change. It is significantly

:12:00. > :12:04.different aerodynamically. It is different in the Powertrain. There

:12:05. > :12:12.is just a lot to do. But it is coming on. You changed to Mercedes

:12:13. > :12:16.engines, how is that relationship building? Very good.

:12:17. > :12:20.I mean Renault are a very professional outfit and so are

:12:21. > :12:25.Mercedes, we need to sort of learn the language a bit, because everyone

:12:26. > :12:29.talks in a slightly different way about things, and of course, as I

:12:30. > :12:34.was saying earlier, because the power train is so different, we have

:12:35. > :12:39.new things to learn about. But a lot of respect for Mercedes doing a

:12:40. > :12:43.great job, and yes, I think it will be a very good engine. The engines

:12:44. > :12:47.have been round for a long time, so they are all pretty equal, do you

:12:48. > :12:51.see next year Mercedes maybe getting it right and Renault and Ferrari

:12:52. > :12:55.struggling, or do you think everybody will get the same sort of

:12:56. > :13:00.level? They are all professional, that is a diplomatic answer. I am

:13:01. > :13:08.sure they will get it right. Yes, it is different. In so many fundamental

:13:09. > :13:12.way, we have been so used to, with racing engines putting in as much

:13:13. > :13:18.air as we can and then it is easy to put the fuel in. Now we are limited

:13:19. > :13:23.on fuel. Different for the engine designers and different for us as

:13:24. > :13:32.teams in how we utilise the engine. With so much more complication,

:13:33. > :13:37.reliability could be an issue? Yes, these day, they are very

:13:38. > :13:43.sophisticated and by the time a car gets on the track at the end of

:13:44. > :13:49.January, they will have done many race simulation, but yeah, again, so

:13:50. > :13:52.many new things to think about. Turbo chargers and the large

:13:53. > :13:56.electric motors and things like that, new things we need to

:13:57. > :13:59.understand. Do you look at this change in regulations as an

:14:00. > :14:02.opportunity for William tots get back to the front? Because

:14:03. > :14:06.everything is changed so much. That must be an opening for you to get

:14:07. > :14:11.back to the front and compete with the big teams? Yes, whether that is

:14:12. > :14:21.a philosophical thing or detail, there is no secret we have struggled

:14:22. > :14:25.with the exhaust, and among the many regulation changes next year, there

:14:26. > :14:28.is effectively rules that make it impossible to have that type of

:14:29. > :14:35.exhaust, so I think things like that can help us, but really it will come

:14:36. > :14:39.down to have we got the ability to exploit things properly. It was

:14:40. > :14:44.quite a late change to us, to go to Mercedes, so, you know, we are

:14:45. > :14:47.perhaps a bit behind things on that, but I am confident. All right.

:14:48. > :14:52.Thanks for your time and good luck for the rest of the weekend.

:14:53. > :14:55.Great to hear from Pat Symonds about the Williams team as they look

:14:56. > :15:01.forward to next year with the power plant. This is of course the end of

:15:02. > :15:05.the V 8 era we are watching as we see Heikki Kovalainen about do a

:15:06. > :15:10.practise start at the end of the pit lane, sneaking his way past the

:15:11. > :15:26.barriers. Then the systems helping him to launch himself off the line.

:15:27. > :15:28.The actual corners are not too bad. But on the straights, there is a lot

:15:29. > :15:42.of water. It is not ideal. You are having to

:15:43. > :15:52.limit yourself down the straight. Max Chilton talking. The first two

:15:53. > :15:57.lapse. I will quickly remind you of what happened this morning. It was

:15:58. > :16:03.not quite as wet. The only driver that went out on something other

:16:04. > :16:18.than a wet tyre was Sebastien Dettol. He had a slick. He had a

:16:19. > :16:28.hard compound tyre. It was a Mercedes one, two. Fernando Alonso

:16:29. > :16:33.was fifth fastest. A very impressive performance from the Russian

:16:34. > :16:39.driver. He was eighth fastest in the free practice. Ninth was high kick

:16:40. > :17:49.over line on. We're watching him now. -- Heikki Kovalainen.

:17:50. > :18:04.I thought it was nice to just listen to the end of the V8 era. How

:18:05. > :18:10.different will it sound when we get to the 2014 season? Going back to

:18:11. > :18:19.the fact he was changing up dear, what happens with these cars, Lotus

:18:20. > :18:23.has a good example of this system you need to get the throttle open to

:18:24. > :18:27.get the exhaust system to give it a rear downforce full if you lifted

:18:28. > :18:37.you get less we downforce. That is the last thing you want to do. -- a

:18:38. > :18:48.rear downforce. If you lift it, you get less rear downforce. These

:18:49. > :18:56.engines are V8. They really are fantastic. Next year it is a 1600 cc

:18:57. > :18:59.engine. The RPM will be less so the noise will not be there. The

:19:00. > :19:09.turbocharger will take away the noise. That was a turbine which

:19:10. > :19:13.spins the turbine up to speed. There is another turbine which is putting

:19:14. > :19:18.the call and fresh air into the engine to give its power. When you

:19:19. > :19:22.do that, it acts like a silencer. You are taking energy from the

:19:23. > :19:28.exhaust pipe and doing something with it. Energy come straight out of

:19:29. > :19:34.the exhaust pipe. I think it will still sound pretty good. I think it

:19:35. > :19:53.will. It will still be Formula One will stop this is not a shabby

:19:54. > :19:56.performance. It is quite a reasonable lap, given the

:19:57. > :20:08.conditions. These slower cars were doing 128, 130. It is much wetter

:20:09. > :20:14.than it was. Take a look at this! Down in the paddock, a bit of work

:20:15. > :20:20.going on in front of Mark Webber 's barrage. They have a gully in front

:20:21. > :20:24.of the car. They have been trying to sort out how to try to drain the

:20:25. > :20:45.galley because it is in the way and causing a problem. -- the gulley.

:20:46. > :20:52.The Red Bull team is trying to work out how to get rid of the standing

:20:53. > :20:58.water. This is the last race weekend in Formula One. We will try to grab

:20:59. > :21:03.him in a few minutes time. I wonder if they will shout for that, take

:21:04. > :21:13.the rough edges off and get it absolutely perfect. He completes

:21:14. > :21:17.another lap - Heikki Kovalainen. A little bit faster than his previous

:21:18. > :21:31.lap. He is the only car on track, is he? It looks as though we will see

:21:32. > :21:40.more cars taking to the track. This is Jules Bianchi. It is the end of

:21:41. > :21:57.the Colts worth era. What a famous name it is! -- Cosworth. Let's run

:21:58. > :22:12.through your comments about the highs and lows the season. You can

:22:13. > :22:17.tweet us. The drivers market being, constantly dominated by paid

:22:18. > :22:36.drivers. Alex saying, my best moment was the win by Kim. My low moment

:22:37. > :22:42.was the reaction of Vettel. Hamilton stopped at the wrong pits in the

:22:43. > :22:48.lazier. He did not get that right. It is raining heavily. -- in

:22:49. > :22:56.Malaysia will stop conditions are getting worse. The best moment where

:22:57. > :23:02.the Silverstone blow outs. The worst moment was that he rarely had to

:23:03. > :23:08.change the tyre compounds. The worst moment was the bad luck of Mark

:23:09. > :23:12.Webber and retirement. I'd best moment was proposing to my fiancee

:23:13. > :23:18.while in Canada while watching the Canadian grand prix. That is his

:23:19. > :23:25.special F1 moment. Watching Jules Bianchi. He has done a pretty good

:23:26. > :23:29.job so far this year. A lot of people say he has been one of the

:23:30. > :23:39.most impressive rookies. It is hard to tell. Right from the first moment

:23:40. > :23:43.he got into the car, he was very quick. Speaking to Max Chilton, he

:23:44. > :23:48.regards him as a decent yardstick. You have to look at what he has done

:23:49. > :23:55.and not many drivers could have done a better job with that car. The team

:23:56. > :24:01.they are battling with four tenths in the championship are seriously

:24:02. > :24:06.impressed with Jules Bianchi. Within Caterham, they have looked at his

:24:07. > :24:09.performances and seen he is delivering performances that the car

:24:10. > :24:16.does not always warrant full that is always the sign of a good driver.

:24:17. > :24:23.Marussia did make a step this year. They planned to get on with what

:24:24. > :24:27.they had and concentrate on 2014. For the small teams, it is difficult

:24:28. > :24:32.to cope with the changes while developing the current car. Marussia

:24:33. > :24:38.made the step and they thought, we have got to do more development on

:24:39. > :24:41.this car. That threw them a bit. They started looking at the

:24:42. > :24:59.performances that Jules Bianchi was getting. It is tight. One 13th place

:25:00. > :25:03.for Caterham would be enough for them to reclaim the spot. Jenson

:25:04. > :25:08.Button does not look as though he is getting ready to do anything at the

:25:09. > :25:13.moment. He is sitting out and watching the session. Only one car

:25:14. > :25:17.on track at the moment which is Jules Bianchi. Max Chilton is also

:25:18. > :25:25.back in. There is Romain Grosjean. He is one of the stars of the last

:25:26. > :25:35.time out in the USA. He got second place in Canada last season. What a

:25:36. > :25:39.turnaround! The team saw elements of Romain Grosjean in Monaco which were

:25:40. > :25:46.just as worrying as they had seen last year. Since then he turned it

:25:47. > :25:53.down completely. That is one of the feel-good stories. When he came in

:25:54. > :25:58.2009, he put it a couple of tenths away. I thought, that was a good

:25:59. > :26:04.effort. It was totally the wrong time. They were in a bit of mayhem.

:26:05. > :26:10.They did not really have their eyes on who was in the second half. He

:26:11. > :26:16.did not get to keep that. Then he had the problem last year when he

:26:17. > :26:22.was named the first lap and he admitted that psychologically that

:26:23. > :26:26.was hard to get over and be aggressive on first lap again when

:26:27. > :26:30.he was in danger of being blamed for everything that was going on. He has

:26:31. > :26:39.done well coming out from that and he is one of the standout guys. This

:26:40. > :26:44.is impressive! You can see his reactions. He is working this doing

:26:45. > :26:50.well and getting it turned in. As the front end grips, he is trying to

:26:51. > :26:52.get the power down. Watch him! Sideways, mid-corner. He picks up

:26:53. > :27:07.the throttle. That sounded pretty flat. It is a

:27:08. > :27:28.tricky corner onto the straight. Easily that in the drive. -- the

:27:29. > :27:37.dry. The Cosworth will not be around next season. Great driving by Jules

:27:38. > :27:45.Bianchi. Let's get back down to the pits and we have Romain Grosjean.

:27:46. > :27:53.Man of the moment. Congratulations! Where does this run of consistency

:27:54. > :28:00.with podiums come from? I knew I was capable. It is a good series. We

:28:01. > :28:09.have a good car, a good team. It is not a secret. That is what we are

:28:10. > :28:18.trying to achieve every weekend. How good did it feel with beating one of

:28:19. > :28:22.the Red Bulls in Austen? I said, come on, we need to get second. It

:28:23. > :28:28.was a very strong race. A good defence on Mark will stop we did

:28:29. > :28:35.manage to keep him behind, which was nice. He has been one of your

:28:36. > :28:43.biggest critics. He was a bit harsh on you. You have made up, have you?

:28:44. > :28:49.This year, it was not easy on me but I was the first one to be happy with

:28:50. > :28:56.myself. It was nice to do that. It is always nice to get good comments

:28:57. > :29:02.from others. He has a lot of experience in Formula One and I

:29:03. > :29:08.tried to do my best every weekend. How important has seeing a

:29:09. > :29:12.psychologist been to you? It has made a huge difference. I knew I was

:29:13. > :29:22.capable of winning the title because I did it in the past with Formula

:29:23. > :29:28.One. This is why we have to be better. That would be the dream. It

:29:29. > :29:35.is every day and every session that has been different. A lot of doubt

:29:36. > :29:42.about next year for Lotus. Will you be back here? Nothing has been

:29:43. > :29:47.confirmed but I can do better. We are riding on board the Red Bull of

:29:48. > :29:51.Mark Webber. Joining us from the pitfall is the team principal. Thank

:29:52. > :30:10.you for joining us. The conditions are not what you wanted.

:30:11. > :30:17.So hopefully we will get a glimpse of you on the pit wall. What are

:30:18. > :30:22.your latest forecasts for the weekend, in terms of qualifying and

:30:23. > :30:27.the race? Qualifying looks a bit like the earlier session today, so

:30:28. > :30:32.not quite as heavy rain. Sunday is moving round, it depends which

:30:33. > :30:36.forecast you are looking at, some are saying heavy rain and sub

:30:37. > :30:42.dieding, so Sunday is far harder to predict. This is Mark's final ever

:30:43. > :30:47.Grand Prix, with you or any team, you had, I think you had a get

:30:48. > :30:53.together, in town the other day, how did that go? Yes, the team had an

:30:54. > :30:58.evening out with Mark and the car crew and the engineers and so on and

:30:59. > :31:04.Sebastien went along, they had a great eening, and, you know, it --

:31:05. > :31:09.evening and it is Mark last's Grand Prix weekend and it is important for

:31:10. > :31:12.him and the team he has a strong day. We have been asking the

:31:13. > :31:16.audience, they have been tweeting with some of the highlights of Mark

:31:17. > :31:21.Webber's career, driving for you, at Red Bull. What for you what really

:31:22. > :31:28.stands out in your mind as one of the great moments of Mark? Without a

:31:29. > :31:33.doubt his first victory in Nurburgring was great for him. It

:31:34. > :31:39.was great to see him win that against adversity. He made contact

:31:40. > :31:42.with Barrichello and got a drive through, despite that went on to

:31:43. > :31:47.dominate the race and win his first Grand Prix. The elation he had in

:31:48. > :31:50.the car with his Harry met Sally moment, on the team radio, it was

:31:51. > :31:55.great to see, great for him, and great for the team.

:31:56. > :32:03.And what are you going to miss about not having him in the team? He is a

:32:04. > :32:08.straight talking individual, it has made a big contribution the

:32:09. > :32:12.development of the car, his feedback is hugely valuable. He has a very

:32:13. > :32:18.good understanding of what is going on round him, with the experience he

:32:19. > :32:32.has, he is going to be missed next year.

:32:33. > :32:36.One file question is Daniil Kvyat is joining Toro Rosso. He won that

:32:37. > :32:40.Championship, he is a very talented young man, he has got great car

:32:41. > :32:45.control, he is massively brave, and I think, you know, he has a bright

:32:46. > :32:49.future ahead of him. He is very young. He will be a bit green but it

:32:50. > :32:51.was the right decision to give him the chance.

:32:52. > :32:56.Right. We are going to be speaking to him. So thank you very much. And

:32:57. > :33:02.we will get it from the horse's mouth.

:33:03. > :33:07.So on track at the moment, indeed Daniil Kvyat was listening to that,

:33:08. > :33:13.as Christian was talking about your prospects, lovely have you with us.

:33:14. > :33:17.Well done the morning, that was a really good effort this morning, you

:33:18. > :33:22.ended up with the eighth fastest time. First time in a Formula One

:33:23. > :33:27.car in the wet, how was it? It was very nice. First time, in the wet

:33:28. > :33:32.conditions with the Formula One car, yeah, I think I got on quite well.

:33:33. > :33:39.Got quite confident with the car, from lap two or three I would say I

:33:40. > :33:43.got a long run, pushing on. My best lap was lap 38 which I am pleased

:33:44. > :33:47.about. When you are stepping up from something like a GP 3 car to a

:33:48. > :33:52.Formula One the biggest difference is the amount of horsepower, the

:33:53. > :33:56.ability to spin the rear wheel up, the acceleration of the car, is that

:33:57. > :34:02.not daunting in the wet? You are right. It requires a lot of lot

:34:03. > :34:08.toing control, for sure it was a bit difficult in the beginning today,

:34:09. > :34:13.but yeah, you make lap time on the braking, a lot on the car's speed so

:34:14. > :34:19.it a combination of factors which you have to put together, to have a

:34:20. > :34:23.good lap time, so today I got a good feel for it. It helps me to finish

:34:24. > :34:27.the session in a good position. You did very well. Congratulations to

:34:28. > :34:32.that. We are introducing you to a whole new audience, you wrapped up

:34:33. > :34:35.the GP Championship, well done for that, congratulations, you are going

:34:36. > :34:39.to be stepping up to the big game, Formula One, you are confirmed at

:34:40. > :34:43.testosterone, you will be driving along -- as Toro Rosso. You are 19

:34:44. > :34:47.at the moment. So you will be again one of the youngest we have seen in

:34:48. > :34:51.formula one, tell me how your racing start, you don't come from a motor

:34:52. > :34:57.sporting background, wasn't something about going off for a

:34:58. > :35:04.pizza, that is how it began? Yes it started, no-one in my family was

:35:05. > :35:07.involved in racing so far, so, yeah, just carting, carting first then

:35:08. > :35:12.some carting in Russia. You saw a rental track one day Yes, wanted to

:35:13. > :35:18.try. Gave it a try and it went quite well. Enjoyed making the corners,

:35:19. > :35:23.the speed, all together, just, just really, really loved it straight

:35:24. > :35:27.way, then kept going. How old were you when you first drove a cart?

:35:28. > :35:31.Nine. So you, you obviously grew up in Russia, but to build your carting

:35:32. > :35:36.career you moved to Italy, how old were you when you moved to Italy

:35:37. > :35:41.Almost 13-year-old, yeah, I grew up in Russia, basically of course, that

:35:42. > :35:46.is my home country, forever will be. Yes, we saw that there is basically

:35:47. > :35:51.no culture in Russia, that the time. It is now a bit better but there was

:35:52. > :35:56.no culture for the racing, so, yeah, we saw the countries which are

:35:57. > :36:03.really good for a carting career are Italy, England, France and so on, so

:36:04. > :36:08.that the time my team was based in Rome, so it was a good choice. So

:36:09. > :36:14.you now speak fluent Italian, I think you speak a bit of Spanish.

:36:15. > :36:17.Yes, a lot of Spanish. So you clearly speak Russian and you speak

:36:18. > :36:21.remarkably good English. Thanks. That is a pretty impressive sign,

:36:22. > :36:25.you can speak to journalistings from most of the different country, but

:36:26. > :36:32.part of the reason you speak English so well is go you have been living

:36:33. > :36:37.in Milton Keynes for a while. Yes, I I don't have a permanent house for

:36:38. > :36:43.now. But this year, mainly I have been living in Milton Keynes, in the

:36:44. > :36:48.UK, so it has been my home, and I think it might stay like this for

:36:49. > :36:55.the next year, so it a bit of English as well. It is really good.

:36:56. > :36:59.For working with Toro Rosso, they are based in Italy, so the fact you

:37:00. > :37:04.could speak Italian is a nice aspect to that. Let us just tell you what

:37:05. > :37:08.is happening in the session itself. It is still very wet. Webber

:37:09. > :37:11.quickest at the moment. Rosberg is going on the a lap, first time lap.

:37:12. > :37:15.This will be interesting because he was fastest this morning, so it will

:37:16. > :37:19.be interesting to see what kind of lap time he can do. But yes,

:37:20. > :37:24.presumably being able to communicate with the team in their language, it

:37:25. > :37:29.helps, doesn't it Definitely. It helps that I can speak Italian with

:37:30. > :37:33.the team, so yes, it is a big help. Big pleasure for me because it is

:37:34. > :37:37.like at home, it is a great opportunity for me and happy to be

:37:38. > :37:42.part of the Italian team. Let us watch Rosberg. Talk us round the

:37:43. > :37:46.lap. I know it is wetter so there is more standing water. Talk us about

:37:47. > :37:52.where you found the most challenging areas. This corner where he is now,

:37:53. > :37:57.it is challenging. It goes down head. You risk a lot. In the end it

:37:58. > :38:02.is about getting right to the brakings on this track, you can

:38:03. > :38:06.choose a few different lines in some corner, this corner is one of the

:38:07. > :38:13.trickiest ones because it is combined acceleration and turn, yes,

:38:14. > :38:19.slippery, we see he is three tenths down, confirming their morning pace.

:38:20. > :38:23.It's a good car in the wet. Yes, I would say they have been good the

:38:24. > :38:29.whole year, mainly up and down, in the end who is the most consistent

:38:30. > :38:36.ones, it is Red Bull. We can see on the final sheet. So it goes fastest.

:38:37. > :38:40.1: 28.8. A little quicker than Mark Webber. Of course when you get

:38:41. > :38:43.conditions like this, being out at a certain moment can make a big

:38:44. > :38:47.difference as to whether it is raining harder or less hard, it can

:38:48. > :38:54.be difficult to know when to be on circuit. For sure. It dependsen a

:38:55. > :38:57.lot on how the amount of water is on the track. Right now everyone is

:38:58. > :39:04.using it, we can see standing water on the side of the track. So, yeah,

:39:05. > :39:07.it is quite hard conditions. Yes. And... Listen.

:39:08. > :39:12.RADIO: I think that is enough for me.

:39:13. > :39:16.That's enough. He has gone faster. He doesn't need to do any more.

:39:17. > :39:19.Confirms he has been fast, and saving the times for qualifying, I

:39:20. > :39:24.think that is useful. That is what most of the team is going to do. We

:39:25. > :39:30.have been talking about the fact it is the end of the V 8 era. You

:39:31. > :39:35.managed to get running in, but next year it is a whole different story

:39:36. > :39:39.with the V 6 turbo charged and much more electric motor involvement in

:39:40. > :39:45.how a Formula One car workser, have you had a chance to get on the

:39:46. > :39:50.simulator yet? We tried a few times, the new model. It is reap green for

:39:51. > :39:57.the moment, so the proper running will start as soon as the

:39:58. > :40:02.Championships ends, so after Brazil. Most of the teams are focussed for

:40:03. > :40:07.next year already. Yes, I am sure. There is a few battles to be worked

:40:08. > :40:11.out here. The battle for second to be decided Toro Rosso nothing really

:40:12. > :40:16.happening for them. There is no chance of them catching anyone or

:40:17. > :40:22.being caught so they are doing their own thing? Yes, for sure Daniel

:40:23. > :40:28.Ricciardo, he wants to finish his career on a high. So, yes I I think

:40:29. > :40:33.there is still a chance for nice points and it is good to know you

:40:34. > :40:37.can finish in the points. It is basic work, but points are always

:40:38. > :40:43.welcome. Indeed. Jean-Eric Vergne, because he has not had any points

:40:44. > :40:50.since Canada, he has gone through a long period. Watching Hulkenberg who

:40:51. > :40:55.has had a remarkably good run of result, especially after Hungary

:40:56. > :40:59.when chases to the Sauber were made. The exhaust effect on these cars has

:41:00. > :41:02.had a big effect. I don't think for Toro Rosso they have managed to get

:41:03. > :41:07.that kind of exhaust effect to work as well as perhaps they would have

:41:08. > :41:10.liked. It is strue, let us say after Silverstone there has been a bit of

:41:11. > :41:18.a down in the team, not so many points any more, just a few occasion

:41:19. > :41:24.races like Monza and so on. So probably also the fact that the

:41:25. > :41:29.tyres has been changed from Silverstone affected them, but,

:41:30. > :41:34.yeah, I mean, it is hard to say to be honest what Sauber has done to

:41:35. > :41:38.their car to improve it. I think something has been done for sure,

:41:39. > :41:42.this is how it looked. It is great to have you with us, I know you are

:41:43. > :41:45.a busy boy and Toro Rosso don't want to lose you too long from the pit

:41:46. > :41:48.garage because you have to learn stuff as well as to what they are

:41:49. > :41:52.running through, but thank you very much for joining u we look forward

:41:53. > :41:57.to you coming back in to Formula One as a full-time driver next year.

:41:58. > :42:01.Thank you, I can't wait. So Dan dancing thank you for joining

:42:02. > :42:05.us in our practise session and best of luck with next season. . I am

:42:06. > :42:10.sure you have a few more fans now. Thank you very much.

:42:11. > :42:15.So the session continues, with still have 52 minutes to go. We have a few

:42:16. > :42:24.cars out there as we see Hulkenberg hurtling round in the Sauber. He is

:42:25. > :42:28.third fastest to Mark Webber. You have Pic. Jules Bianchi and Max

:42:29. > :42:35.Chilton. The Caterhams have got more pace in these conditions. It is what

:42:36. > :42:38.we saw this morn, as Rossi told us, more downfalls on the Caterham is

:42:39. > :42:41.helping them, because they have the edge over Marussia, so Marussia

:42:42. > :42:48.won't want to see a wet race day, that is for sure, particularly a few

:42:49. > :42:51.cars end up spinning off. Tony, interesting wasn't it chatting to

:42:52. > :42:56.Daniil Kvyat, he is 19, yet the maturity and the way he speaks is

:42:57. > :43:01.phenomenal Amazing. It is an underestimated facet of the job, if

:43:02. > :43:05.you look at the young guys he speaks for language, we watched Sebastian

:43:06. > :43:09.Vettel win a race and we forget he is only 26. It seems ancient

:43:10. > :43:14.compared to Daniil Kvyat, he gets out of the car, he speaks in a, what

:43:15. > :43:20.isn't his mother tongue, hugely impressively, and it is all part of

:43:21. > :43:27.being, having an all round package which you need these days. We know

:43:28. > :43:31.one observer who was very impressed by watching Dan, he looked at home

:43:32. > :43:36.he said, from the very first laps He has done a great job in both the

:43:37. > :43:43.outings, and, when you look at him and think, he is 19, he said, it was

:43:44. > :43:47.almost by accident I got into it. What an amazing opportunity for him.

:43:48. > :43:52.He has deserved it because of what he has done in carting and come

:43:53. > :43:55.through the rank, he only had the Red Bull support because he is fast

:43:56. > :43:58.in everything. Watching this year, the GP 3 series he has been

:43:59. > :44:04.impressive in that and quick. Indeed. Gary, let us get down do

:44:05. > :44:08.you, I know you wanted to talk about the aspect of how the teams preheat

:44:09. > :44:12.the tyres before the cars go out on circuit. It is something in Formula

:44:13. > :44:15.One that is important. These tyre blanket, tell us what you are

:44:16. > :44:19.thinking? We hear a lot about warming up the tyre, couldn't get

:44:20. > :44:23.the tyres to come in, I am down outside the Lotus garage, if we have

:44:24. > :44:27.a closer look. This is a set of the wet tyre, and this is the blankets

:44:28. > :44:33.that warm up the wet tyres, and you can see the numbers on them, we will

:44:34. > :44:36.go into this, because we are getting tripped up. Somebody doesn't want us

:44:37. > :44:42.to see it. They are warming up the wet tyres to 0 degree, and that is

:44:43. > :44:46.you don't cook the compound, if you go to an intermediate set of tyres

:44:47. > :44:51.they will warm them up more, that is what this pile was, but then on the

:44:52. > :44:56.double heating blanket system on the dry weather tyre, and what you do

:44:57. > :45:01.with them, is you try to put as much heat as possible through the side

:45:02. > :45:04.walls so you don't cook the compound, you don't overheat the

:45:05. > :45:07.compound, you are turning as much into the rim and the side wall of

:45:08. > :45:12.the tyre, these were set at 110 degrees on the side walls and the

:45:13. > :45:15.tread was set at 100 degrees so they are trying to get the mass

:45:16. > :45:19.temperature up but not overheat the compound and make it go hard,

:45:20. > :45:24.because these tyres are matured I think you might call it, at

:45:25. > :45:27.Pirelli's factory and they are matured in an oven. And it is very

:45:28. > :45:33.important where you stop the temperature cycle because if you go

:45:34. > :45:37.too far the tyre goes harder, if you stop too soon the tyre shreds are

:45:38. > :45:42.itself to death. This is very important when the tyre is new.

:45:43. > :45:46.But it is interesting to see. Thank you. Fascinating, and each

:45:47. > :45:52.team working out their own solution for that. We are riding onboard with

:45:53. > :45:57.Paul di Resta. He didn't get to do any running this morning because

:45:58. > :46:00.Colin Calderwood -- James Calado was in his car.

:46:01. > :46:25.Paul di Resta showing us it is still very twitchy, look at that, very

:46:26. > :47:00.slippery out there. A crucial corner. Let's just listen. In the

:47:01. > :47:07.wet, you are always going to get wheel spin. Let's quickly join the

:47:08. > :47:11.man who was in that car earlier on. They are just about to bring one of

:47:12. > :47:15.the cars then. You managed to get out for a bit of a run and you

:47:16. > :47:25.managed to get out for a bit of a run and he wanted to do more. It is

:47:26. > :47:31.my first time in the rain. Limited laps, I was given a note on the

:47:32. > :47:37.shoulder. Keep on the tracks, do not go off. I took it really steady. I

:47:38. > :47:43.did not push that hard. To be just behind Adrian and not having driven

:47:44. > :48:02.this track at all, or driven in the rain is pretty good. It is wet. It

:48:03. > :48:12.is better than in England. Paul is out at the moment. Missing a session

:48:13. > :48:18.is slightly frustrating. If it had been drier, I doubt I would have

:48:19. > :48:23.driven. The forecast was a lot worse. I was lucky to get a few laps

:48:24. > :48:28.and my belt. Fantastic to go around here, particularly when you think

:48:29. > :48:42.about all of history. It was a session where we needed limited data

:48:43. > :48:46.so I just did Ltd laps. It is one of those sessions when you cannot do a

:48:47. > :48:51.huge amount. You are limited on tyres as well. What have the

:48:52. > :48:58.engineers that you need to work out from today? We are trying to work

:48:59. > :49:03.out a good crossover. The weather is unpredictable this weekend,

:49:04. > :49:08.particularly here. A view balanced changes and that is it really. Quite

:49:09. > :49:13.simple when it is like this. For me now, there is a little bit of

:49:14. > :49:18.waiting around, getting into groups and everything and seeing how they

:49:19. > :49:27.get on. A pretty easy day for me. There are not two more unpredictable

:49:28. > :49:31.seat at the moment in Force India. I know you have been off to do a

:49:32. > :49:37.couple of other things. I have options open for next year. I have

:49:38. > :49:42.not got millions of pounds for a Formula One seat so it is

:49:43. > :49:47.unfortunate. What do you do? Hopes among comes along with millions of

:49:48. > :49:51.pounds and then get a chance. -- hope that someone comes along. I

:49:52. > :49:58.will stay involved and hopefully times will get better and I will get

:49:59. > :50:06.a chance. We have good options for next year. I would ideally like to

:50:07. > :50:14.carry on racing. It is unlikely now, to be honest. Good luck. Talking

:50:15. > :50:18.about the crossover between the wets and the intermediates. Talking about

:50:19. > :50:21.the lap time it would be suitable to switch from one to the other. We

:50:22. > :50:48.should be getting down to that region. The fastest time at the

:50:49. > :50:57.moment is -- 1:28.48. . If you can do this on the intermediates, it is

:50:58. > :51:02.time for the slick tyres. It is always difficult. We are getting

:51:03. > :51:06.flooding in some areas on the track. That is the problem. The wet tyres

:51:07. > :51:12.are the safest combination right now just because of the puddles and

:51:13. > :51:16.making sure it does not Aqua plane. Some of the drivers have been saying

:51:17. > :51:24.the corners are OK. They might suffer the consequences if the car

:51:25. > :51:31.goes of the road. Thanks for your comments coming in about high 's and

:51:32. > :51:35.lows from this season will stop Ollie George is saying, the best

:51:36. > :51:40.moment, Romain Grosjean showing the speed that earned him a drive. The

:51:41. > :51:46.worst moment, the domination of Sebastian Vettel. My best moment was

:51:47. > :51:52.when Nico Hulkenberg got third on the grid. A few people are

:51:53. > :51:58.supporting that. You talking about a few of your memories of the Lupe

:51:59. > :52:06.Massa at Ferrari. Those glorious few moments when he was world champion.

:52:07. > :52:10.-- the Lupe Masser. I still remember his face as Hamilton won the

:52:11. > :52:25.championship. He is a good driver and somehow angered Lady luck. The

:52:26. > :52:35.special relationship of Massa at Istanbul. The double overtake by

:52:36. > :52:42.Massa at the Canadian Grand Prix was brilliant. He is a great rider and

:52:43. > :52:48.he will be missed. His career is not ending. He will be this man 's

:52:49. > :52:52.team-mate. Valterri Bottas, he is quite aggressive on the initial

:52:53. > :52:58.turn. He feels the front end of the car by turning quite riskily. He is

:52:59. > :53:04.a real star of the future. Last year, when McLaren found themselves

:53:05. > :53:10.in the position of having to find a replacement for Lewis Hamilton, he

:53:11. > :53:16.has been doing the Fridays for Williams and he was not on anyone 's

:53:17. > :53:27.radar. He is another maker Hakkinen. They think he is that good. This

:53:28. > :53:32.year, he has been off the radar because of the performance of that

:53:33. > :53:37.car. He has had two opportunities to shine, one in Canada and then in

:53:38. > :53:45.Austin. He has done it both times. I think he is the real deal. How will

:53:46. > :53:57.it stack up with Massa? Will it be Valterri Bottas or Massa? I would

:53:58. > :54:01.not bet against Valterri Bottas. Just purely what he knows from 13

:54:02. > :54:06.years in Formula One would be valuable to them. I would be very

:54:07. > :54:14.surprised if Massa got it. It'll be one to watch. The experienced Massa

:54:15. > :54:25.against Valterri Bottas. He is coming to the end of his first full

:54:26. > :54:31.season. He is to -- two points behind. Now for the final couple of

:54:32. > :54:45.corners. Rosberg is currently fastest. He is fourth fastest with

:54:46. > :54:54.that. Just behind Romain Grosjean. Another quite good lap by Vander

:54:55. > :55:03.guard in this session. He has been slightly outperforming Charles Pic

:55:04. > :55:10.in the latter part of this season. Daniel Ricciardo has another crash

:55:11. > :55:16.helmet, celebrating his Australian heritage but also the Italian team

:55:17. > :55:21.that he is going to be moving. The big, Red Bull team next year. The

:55:22. > :55:26.first home Grand Prix will be on home turf in Australia. He will be

:55:27. > :55:30.under the media spotlight. Everyone at Red Bull will help him to do with

:55:31. > :55:35.that. I am sure they will. Mark Webber has made a point of trying to

:55:36. > :55:39.divorce himself from a lot of media pressure and saying no to a lot of

:55:40. > :55:43.the big requests from media and that sort of thing. Daniel Ricciardo is

:55:44. > :55:49.going to have to do likewise otherwise he will be snowed under.

:55:50. > :55:55.He is a laid-back guy. Hopefully a lot of that will wash over him. I

:55:56. > :56:00.think he has a good character to cope with that. He is very quick.

:56:01. > :56:05.It'll be interesting to see if he has the technical capability and the

:56:06. > :56:11.rest of the package that is needed to show up well against someone like

:56:12. > :56:15.Sebastian Vettel. That was not as quick as his previous best. Everyone

:56:16. > :56:20.is still out there on wet tyres. Quite a few who have not done a lap

:56:21. > :56:37.time at all and those are the likes of Sebastian Vettel, Fernando

:56:38. > :56:41.Alonso, Massa. Quite a few drivers not having set any lap time at all

:56:42. > :56:46.in the second free practice session. Maybe they will be coming

:56:47. > :56:50.out the bit later on. We will have to wait and see. Another practice

:56:51. > :56:53.session on Saturday morning before they go into the all-important

:56:54. > :56:58.qualifying. For now, it seems they are not learning a huge amount. Two

:56:59. > :57:06.carve out on track at the moment. A couple more comment about Massa. We

:57:07. > :57:12.will miss the Smedley- Massa relationship. He has been his

:57:13. > :57:27.long-term engineer. Things like, who is the daddy of Brazil? That is a

:57:28. > :57:32.comment he has made to Massa before. He mentioned the accident he

:57:33. > :57:36.suffered as his low point in 2009. Yields cemented the 2010 German

:57:37. > :57:44.Grand Prix at Hockenheim and the words, Fernando is faster than you.

:57:45. > :57:49.That was muttered by Smedley. It is clear that hurt him deeply. It was

:57:50. > :57:55.his first chance to win a grand prix, having come back from his

:57:56. > :57:59.accident. That was a key point in a relationship. He did not know ahead

:58:00. > :58:04.of time that he would be told to move over. He might have had a good

:58:05. > :58:08.idea but it was Rob who had to deliver the message. I know Rob was

:58:09. > :58:13.not happy about that. He thinks the relationship between a race engineer

:58:14. > :58:18.and the driver has to be one of complete trust. You have heard him

:58:19. > :58:22.on the radio, the way he eggs him on and helps him. For him to deliver

:58:23. > :58:26.that message was not what he wanted. It perhaps should have come

:58:27. > :58:32.from higher up the chain. He should have told him in advance. He could

:58:33. > :58:38.have gone out to dinner and told him and not do it in the middle of a

:58:39. > :58:42.race. Team orders were not actually allowed. It did drop from Rory in

:58:43. > :58:50.it. They are allowed now but, at that time, they were not allowed. --

:58:51. > :58:56.from Ari in it. That is true. Everybody knew what was going on.

:58:57. > :59:01.Just to legitimise it, it did everyone a favour. It was the right

:59:02. > :59:10.decision to allow team orders. They are going to happen anyway. It will

:59:11. > :59:13.just be done in an under hand way. It is better that everyone knows it

:59:14. > :59:18.is going on and you do not have two pretend. It is much better. There is

:59:19. > :59:23.still talk that Rob Smedley will go to Williams. It may well be the

:59:24. > :59:27.relationship is continued. I do not think if Rob Smedley goes to

:59:28. > :59:33.Williams, it would not be exactly the same role. He would not be the

:59:34. > :59:38.man on the radio. I think it would be another engineer working with

:59:39. > :59:43.him. If he goes to Williams, it will be more bringing back the area of

:59:44. > :59:48.development required. More of an infidel role between the two

:59:49. > :59:54.drivers. Taking it back to the design office to try to make sure

:59:55. > :59:57.the development direction is set correctly. It is so easy to develop

:59:58. > :00:01.these cars. Instead of fixing the problem, sometimes you make it

:00:02. > :00:10.bigger. You need a good link between the circuit and the factory.

:00:11. > :00:16.That is something to look forward to, in 2014, this weekend, of

:00:17. > :00:21.course, Heikki Kovalainen standing in for Kimi Raikkonen, for the final

:00:22. > :00:26.time, we will wait to see whether Heikki Kovalainen does get a drive

:00:27. > :00:29.for the 2014 season, definitely in negotiations with crate ram about

:00:30. > :00:35.that possibility, but -- Caterham about that possibility but nothing

:00:36. > :00:40.has been decided. Sergio Perez, he is on his way out of McLaren, it is

:00:41. > :00:47.likely he will end up at one of the other team, he hasn't done a bad job

:00:48. > :00:51.for McLaren, he is nine all in with Jenson Button, so it is possible if

:00:52. > :00:56.he can get one over Jenson he could emerge with a better qualifying

:00:57. > :01:01.record with Button after their one season together. The thing is the

:01:02. > :01:05.team thinks that Jenson qualifying is not his great strength either. I

:01:06. > :01:15.know when they compared him with Lewis they would say he was three or

:01:16. > :01:20.four tenths off. Radio radio if the track is wet enough... A lot of the

:01:21. > :01:24.lack of running is protect these valuable resource, the wet Thaiings

:01:25. > :01:29.they have. So going back to that qualifying situation, you know, they

:01:30. > :01:34.knew that Jenson isn't the quickest qualifier in the world. Sergio would

:01:35. > :01:39.be a couple of tenths off Jenson. For a McLaren driver it is not quick

:01:40. > :01:42.enough. McLaren are looking for stand out driverings, they always

:01:43. > :01:49.have done. He hasn't done a bad job but just not good enough. That is is

:01:50. > :01:52.right. We are looking inside the Toro Rosso pit, and Sebastian Vettel

:01:53. > :01:57.has been sitting out this session, until now, I wonder if he is going

:01:58. > :02:02.to be able to go out and do some lap, he has gone out the back of the

:02:03. > :02:05.garage, so maybe he is prepared to go out on circuit, as Esteban

:02:06. > :02:10.Gutierrez goes to the point where they can do their practise starts.

:02:11. > :02:14.It is a clearly defined area, right on the exit of the pit lane, so they

:02:15. > :02:18.are out of everybody's way, so he will set all the parameters up and

:02:19. > :02:23.then, launch himself from that part, and away goes the car, with

:02:24. > :02:28.relatively minimal amount of fuss, not fish tailing down the straight

:02:29. > :02:32.at all, but pulling away nice and smoothly, and Gutierrez one of only

:02:33. > :02:37.two cars on track at the moment. Yes, Sergio Perez has just come back

:02:38. > :02:43.in to the pit lane. Christian, I think is joining us again from the

:02:44. > :02:48.pit wall. Christian Horner. We have some radio. Radio radio can't get

:02:49. > :03:01.away. So Hulkenberg reporting back.

:03:02. > :03:05.Christian we haven't seen Sebastien doing very much. Is he too chilled

:03:06. > :03:09.out to do any laps? No, we are at that stage on the track where it is

:03:10. > :03:14.not quite wet enough for the full extremes and not dry enough for the

:03:15. > :03:19.inters so it is that cross over period. He will be up before the end

:03:20. > :03:23.of the session. We know there is a limitation of numbers of wets and

:03:24. > :03:27.intermediates, so you have to save your laps at this early point. You

:03:28. > :03:31.don't know what the rest of the weekend is going to bring. Yes with

:03:32. > :03:34.the limitation of tyres, whatever we use we are burning from our

:03:35. > :03:38.allocation from qualifying and race, so we have to be careful, it looks

:03:39. > :03:43.like this weather could hang round for the next couple of day, woe

:03:44. > :03:50.don't want to be burning tyres up today. We were talking about Daniil

:03:51. > :03:54.Kvyat earlier, he did a good job this morning he was eighth fastest,

:03:55. > :03:58.I don't know if you have had a chance to look at that and see that,

:03:59. > :04:02.pretty impressive his first time in the wet Considering his age and

:04:03. > :04:06.experience to get in a Grand Prix car in the wet round here and do,

:04:07. > :04:09.the track he has never seen before, do what he did was very impressive.

:04:10. > :04:14.You can see he is not afraid of the car in any way, he is throwing it

:04:15. > :04:20.round, he has plenty of car control. It was an impressive performance. He

:04:21. > :04:25.is a confident young guy, I was impressed with how he came across to

:04:26. > :04:29.us, talking of Daniel Ricciardo, who will be joining you next year, do

:04:30. > :04:32.you keep an eye on his performances over the last few race weekends, are

:04:33. > :04:37.you looking over there to see what he is up to? Very much so. Always

:04:38. > :04:40.looking for the reassurance you have made the right decision and

:04:41. > :04:45.absolutely have had that confirmed by the way he Hazard driven since we

:04:46. > :04:49.announced his signing, and the Toro Rosso is a tricky car, and he has

:04:50. > :04:54.managed to get it into the top ten on so many occasion, now, and pull

:04:55. > :05:00.it out the bag, particularly in qualifying. What will be the plan

:05:01. > :05:03.now with Daniel? I know you have said that Sebastien deserves a good

:05:04. > :05:08.holiday and the commitment it takes to win a Championship is massive. He

:05:09. > :05:13.needs a break. Does Daniel spend a lot of time at the factory and do a

:05:14. > :05:17.lot of simulator running? For sure, he will finish off his commitments

:05:18. > :05:21.to Toro Rosso, and then he will come to Milton Keynes to spend some time

:05:22. > :05:26.on the simulator, then he is off for a trip to the Philippines to drive a

:05:27. > :05:30.rally show car for a couple of day, and then that is all the

:05:31. > :05:35.requirements for him for December. And then it all starts off soon in

:05:36. > :05:40.January because the new cars will be out on track at the beginning of the

:05:41. > :05:45.month. Absolutely, it is a short winter. It is only two months today

:05:46. > :05:51.that the new cars will be running in jer ret. It is a busy time back at

:05:52. > :05:55.the factory. A huge amount to do. Particularly with the regulation

:05:56. > :05:59.change. Will people be working at the factory on Christmas Day?

:06:00. > :06:03.Probably. I think we might have to cancel Christmas this year. There

:06:04. > :06:08.will be a night shift in on Christmas night. The effort that

:06:09. > :06:11.goes in in in the factory is the reason we manage to achieve what we

:06:12. > :06:15.do track side. This year it has been remarkable, the level of effort and

:06:16. > :06:19.commitment that has gone in behind the scene, you know, but burning the

:06:20. > :06:27.midnight oil in Milton Keynes. They will call you Scrooge if you cancel

:06:28. > :06:32.Christmas Day. There will be a very good Christmas party. Thank you. So

:06:33. > :06:37.Hulkenberg being pushed back into the pit, into the garage, he is

:06:38. > :06:40.fifth fastest in this session, we have under half an hour to go. Gary,

:06:41. > :06:46.back do you in the pit lane, presumably it is all fairly quiet

:06:47. > :06:49.down there, in terms of setting the cars up, very lit that will the

:06:50. > :06:52.teams tend to do, as something special. When you get into

:06:53. > :06:57.qualifying you can't change the car, it is worth on a day like this

:06:58. > :07:02.playing with special wet set ups? It depend on how confident you are on

:07:03. > :07:05.your forecast. In reality, somebody seems to be floating round a bit.

:07:06. > :07:10.This circuit is quite strange, because if it is wet you get a lot

:07:11. > :07:14.of flooding, you need the car to be higher out of the groan. If it

:07:15. > :07:20.becomes dry you lose performance, you have to believe in your weather

:07:21. > :07:25.forecast, just look at Lewis's car, the front brake ducts, this is a

:07:26. > :07:31.left hand circuit. That means the right front tyre gets a lot of work.

:07:32. > :07:36.This right front brake, we call it a dustbin. It covers the brake disk.

:07:37. > :07:43.It stops it getting into the rim. That is important, during the race

:07:44. > :07:49.it easy to overheat the tyres. You want to get the temperatures in as

:07:50. > :07:53.quickly as possible. So if you see on the right front wheel, you will

:07:54. > :07:56.see the disk is covered, on the left front wheel you will see at the top

:07:57. > :08:01.there is a couple of hole, that is because as I say, there is more left

:08:02. > :08:06.hand corners than right hand corners so you have to keep more temperature

:08:07. > :08:10.in the left front wheel and tyre because the circuit doesn't generate

:08:11. > :08:14.that temperature. If you don't keep that, try and even them, when you

:08:15. > :08:21.get to the braking zone you will lock the left front tyre up. So you

:08:22. > :08:25.are playing round with shuch small things to get a good balance and

:08:26. > :08:28.these conditions in the wet doesn't allow them to get the best out of

:08:29. > :08:34.that. So that is the big compromise of having a wet session and going

:08:35. > :08:37.into the race on Sunday teple -- potentially blind. It seems

:08:38. > :08:40.something they have worked hard orange analysing tyre temperatures

:08:41. > :08:44.and working out a way of balancing them For the last three to four

:08:45. > :08:48.years they have had a problem on using the require tyrings too

:08:49. > :08:52.aggressively. They have had a quick car, when you use the tyre

:08:53. > :08:57.aggressively that means you get the temperature in quickly, after that,

:08:58. > :09:01.if you can't stabilise that it overheats. So they have a lot of

:09:02. > :09:05.pole positions because the tyre would warm up faster but in the race

:09:06. > :09:12.they would go backwards. That is the area they have had to work on. The

:09:13. > :09:16.car itself as far as aerodynamics has been small. But the mechanical

:09:17. > :09:21.set up and how they work the rear tyrings has been the big challenge.

:09:22. > :09:25.-- tyres. If the rear tierings goes away, you

:09:26. > :09:29.can't get out of the corner, so it is a major problem. Jules Bianchi

:09:30. > :09:35.has been impressing us request his car control. Some lovely slides as

:09:36. > :09:39.he continues to get a few more laps in, he has done nine laps so far, I

:09:40. > :09:44.think Nico Hulkenberg has done most, he has done 11 but there are a

:09:45. > :09:49.number of have done none. Maldonado is about to complete his flying lap

:09:50. > :09:55.but we have Felipe Massa, Hamilton, Sutil and Ven who have not completed

:09:56. > :10:00.a lap. Rosberg is fastest on that single Labour Party. The rain as you

:10:01. > :10:05.can see is still fallling, whether current -- Webber currently second

:10:06. > :10:10.fastest. Grosjean is up there in third. Daniel Ricciardo in fourth,

:10:11. > :10:15.Hulkenberg. Gutierrez, Kovalainen getting on with his job as stand in

:10:16. > :10:21.for Kimi Raikkonen. Paul di Resta is eighth. Let us look back at Jules

:10:22. > :10:25.Bianchi, this is Max Chilton sorry. This is the other Marussia. A wheel

:10:26. > :10:32.on the curb going into the corner. Trying to run the outside line but

:10:33. > :10:37.maybe getting carried away. He didn't mean to go quite that wide, I

:10:38. > :10:41.think. As we said earlier, running round the outside of the track and

:10:42. > :10:45.almost skirting the white line is often the quickest way, trying to

:10:46. > :10:50.stay off the regular racing line that gets slick and slippery, so Max

:10:51. > :10:54.Chilton getting away with that moment, and a few more cars due to

:10:55. > :11:00.come out. Maldonado has set a lap time. He is quicker than Charles Pic

:11:01. > :11:05.but not as quick as Giedo van der Garde. We will see how that changes

:11:06. > :11:08.over the next few laps, Valtteri Bottas is tenth quickest in his

:11:09. > :11:14.Williams, so Maldonado trying to find more pace there, but as I say,

:11:15. > :11:18.the conditions different now to what they were in the Martin

:11:19. > :11:24.Erlandssonier part of the session. Joining news the commentary box, it

:11:25. > :11:31.is a bit of a climb up the staircase to our BBC position, is motor sport

:11:32. > :11:36.director of Pirelli. It has not been a day you wanted. You have prototype

:11:37. > :11:41.tyres and you have had virtually no chance, I know Sebastien did put

:11:42. > :11:45.them on the car briefly, was there any kind of thing they could learn

:11:46. > :11:49.from that? Absolutely nothing. We haven't had a lot of rain this year,

:11:50. > :11:56.last year we had a lot, many races we haven't had the rain. We will

:11:57. > :12:03.just listen here. Radio radio how are the conditions?

:12:04. > :12:10.So, we have a bit of improvement in lap time coming up from Gutierrez,

:12:11. > :12:13.so coming back to it, you needed a dry tack to test the tyres for next

:12:14. > :12:18.year, you haven't had it and they are using up some of their wet tyre

:12:19. > :12:22.allocations for the weekend? Yes, well that, that happened a bit last

:12:23. > :12:28.year when we came here and had the rain, but that is, nothing you can

:12:29. > :12:32.do about it, is there. Just looking at the conditions an how the times

:12:33. > :12:36.are changing, do you think there is any chance we will see intermediates

:12:37. > :12:40.back on the cars before the end of the session? Having just walked

:12:41. > :12:44.through, you know, through the paddock it is still raining lightly,

:12:45. > :12:49.I don't think we will see that much of an improvement. There is a bit of

:12:50. > :12:53.standing water round. That is the key in, I know we look at lap time

:12:54. > :13:01.and cross over points for running the extreme wet it is the tyre you

:13:02. > :13:06.need to run on. Yes that is the intermediate time tyre is like a cut

:13:07. > :13:09.slick. Is good for damp conditions, when you have standing water you

:13:10. > :13:12.need that full wet. Onboard with Fernando Alonso. He is on track at

:13:13. > :13:16.last, we have been waiting for him to appear, and now he is out there.

:13:17. > :13:21.Gary, you had a bit more to talk about with the tyre warmers. Talking

:13:22. > :13:26.about tyres and Paul is up there. This is one of the new test tyres.

:13:27. > :13:31.It a black side wall. Lotus have taken it out. It is pretty hot.

:13:32. > :13:35.Looking at the wheel assembly while we have this opportunity, this is

:13:36. > :13:40.the wheel nut, all the wheels have the wheel nut fitted. It doesn't

:13:41. > :13:47.fall out. That is what they need to get into the low two second for

:13:48. > :13:51.pit-stops. Inside here we will have have an expensive tyre valve.

:13:52. > :13:59.Instead of having your little valve, you push on a dry brake coupling.

:14:00. > :14:04.This is what holds a seven, so its will measure tyre temperature inside

:14:05. > :14:11.that rim. So it will look at the tread of the tyre. So the team has

:14:12. > :14:19.the data coming back to them. We can see some of these electric blankets.

:14:20. > :14:23.This is a set of slick tyres. 110, 111 degrees. You have side wall and

:14:24. > :14:26.tread. They are heating them up more or less the same S I would like to

:14:27. > :14:30.take credit because many years ago I was the one that created separating

:14:31. > :14:37.these two so you could warm the side wall up more, we warmed it up to 100

:14:38. > :14:41.degrees and the tread up to 60. We got more grip then, they feel the

:14:42. > :14:44.need to warm the tyre up to the same thing, get ass much mass temperature

:14:45. > :14:47.as possible. I am not sure that the end of the day gives you the best

:14:48. > :15:04.grip, but I am not closely involved with it right now. What are your

:15:05. > :15:09.thoughts? A few teams heat the sidewalk to higher than the trade.

:15:10. > :15:15.You need to be careful. There might be a chemical reaction which could

:15:16. > :15:25.change the properties of the tire. There are all sorts of things we

:15:26. > :15:30.have been looking at. We are watching Fernando Alonso. He is on

:15:31. > :15:36.the intermediate tyres. We wondered if anyone would try that. He is

:15:37. > :15:42.going quite quickly at the moment. We will see if it is an improvement.

:15:43. > :15:53.Just 20 minutes to go. Still a lot of water to be kicked up by the car

:15:54. > :16:05.as it heads up the hill. Ten A31.1, puts him 10th fastest at the moment.

:16:06. > :16:11.-- one: 31.1. Ferrari will be looking at, what are the limits of

:16:12. > :16:17.intermediate tyres. What we have seen in the past is the transition

:16:18. > :16:28.from the rain to the dry or vice versa. It is absolutely key. Let's

:16:29. > :16:30.ride with him for a moment. Let's watch. We are going to come away

:16:31. > :16:36.from that. You can see that Sebastian Vettel is getting ready to

:16:37. > :16:40.come out on circuit. Maybe he is finding a line that works well with

:16:41. > :16:45.the intermediate tyre. The intermediate tyre is proving to be

:16:46. > :16:49.quite effective in the closing moments. He has a big twitch. That

:16:50. > :16:56.is the price you could pay by going on the intermediates. That is always

:16:57. > :17:03.the risk. Fernando Alonso is not too worried. He always performs well

:17:04. > :17:07.when the conditions are changeable. He has been outstanding in those

:17:08. > :17:14.sorts of situations. It is the mark of a great driver they can do that.

:17:15. > :17:19.Let's take a look at the replay. You can see for yourself what it was

:17:20. > :17:27.like. He got it a bit out of shape. He sorted it out quite nicely. Let's

:17:28. > :17:33.take a look at it. The final right-handed hairpin of the infield

:17:34. > :17:38.section. Then it is just trying to get the power down. He dealt with it

:17:39. > :17:42.pretty well. Looking ahead to next year, we have been talking about the

:17:43. > :17:48.rule changes. The cars will be very different with the power they are

:17:49. > :17:57.producing with the V6 engines. How your preparations going for next

:17:58. > :18:09.year? We do not see the new cars until everyone out in June as. The

:18:10. > :18:16.main test will be in Bahrain. -- Jerez. We are doing another test in

:18:17. > :18:22.December with the 2011 car. That is our last bit of preparation work for

:18:23. > :18:26.next season. For us, we have the talk that everyone talks about with

:18:27. > :18:32.potential wheel spin. We can control it. We had to make the compounds

:18:33. > :18:37.tear resistant. When they are in those situations, we are not

:18:38. > :18:44.shredding the service. We cannot be as aggressive as we have been this

:18:45. > :18:50.year. Will the wet tyres changed? Drivers have commented on

:18:51. > :18:55.improvements. Also the compounds have changed too tried to give

:18:56. > :19:02.better grip. The gap is too big between intermediate and the full

:19:03. > :19:11.wet tyre. That is pretty much what we are in at the moment. Alonso has

:19:12. > :19:15.gone third. He is back in the pits. Massa is 11th fastest at the

:19:16. > :19:22.moment. He will give us an idea of how much quit he can find. He uses a

:19:23. > :19:30.bit of curb through the second part. Mark Webber is also on track. At

:19:31. > :19:36.Caterham, it is all fairly quiet for Charles Pic. We are preparing in

:19:37. > :19:42.case we need intermediates. Less than 20 minutes to go. I think a

:19:43. > :19:47.crossover is not on the cards at the moment. It would also possibly

:19:48. > :19:51.damage a set of wets which we need for the rest of the event. Let's see

:19:52. > :20:01.how it goes with the track condition. That message was a few

:20:02. > :20:10.moments ago. He is now being sent out on his intermediate tyre. Mark

:20:11. > :20:15.Webber is on his intermediate tyre. There is another factor. If you use

:20:16. > :20:21.a set of intermediates, they get replaced overnight. It is a set of

:20:22. > :20:26.tyres, as you heard on the radio, they will get replaced this evening.

:20:27. > :20:35.It is set they do not worry about losing. It is a free set. Is there a

:20:36. > :20:42.discussion? We have talked about it in the past bit, particularly when

:20:43. > :20:47.we have wet Friday. It is a problem to a certain extent of having more

:20:48. > :20:53.wet tyres available. The wet tyre, generally speaking, does not wear

:20:54. > :20:59.too much. You tend to do 30, 40 laps on a set. In race conditions, when

:21:00. > :21:05.cars are on the circuit together, you get spray. In testing, it is one

:21:06. > :21:11.of those, how often will you actually use it? The additional cost

:21:12. > :21:18.is quite substantial, in terms of carrying a set around all year.

:21:19. > :21:27.Close on two 600, 700,000 euros, to take tyres around the world who

:21:28. > :21:30.might never use. Nico Hulkenberg is still on the ball wet tyre - the

:21:31. > :21:39.extreme wet tyre. Just taking it gently as he builds up to a lap. We

:21:40. > :21:43.are keeping an eye on his progress. They have had a very good latter

:21:44. > :21:49.part to the season. That is interesting. He set a very fast

:21:50. > :21:54.first sector and then backed off middle sector. Whether he will go

:21:55. > :21:59.for another go at it on the full wets, we will wait and see. There is

:22:00. > :22:04.Sebastian Vettel on the intermediate tyre. You say you are planning

:22:05. > :22:09.another test before the end of this year. Do you know who that will be

:22:10. > :22:13.with yet? We have asked all the teams to make a proposal. A number

:22:14. > :22:32.have come back. We need to decide who that will be. Sebastian Vettel

:22:33. > :22:37.goes on to the lap. Let's watch to see how he gets on. Red Bull had a

:22:38. > :22:46.good record on this circuit. He has had one victory and Mark Webber has

:22:47. > :22:52.had two. Webber went on to win on that occasion. Three wins leading up

:22:53. > :22:58.to last year but they could not make it four in a row. That'll is up on

:22:59. > :23:03.the first sector. Straightaway, Sebastian Vettel on the

:23:04. > :23:10.intermediates and looking good. Now he is heading up to turn six and

:23:11. > :23:19.seven. It keeps tightening up. Downhill slightly into the downhill

:23:20. > :23:26.left-handed hairpin. Very slippery through here as we see from some of

:23:27. > :23:36.the guys. Then into the final quick left-hand down the hill. --

:23:37. > :23:41.left-hander down the hill. There is a big steep hill. We are at altitude

:23:42. > :23:48.which has an effect on the engine horsepower. It is easy enough to

:23:49. > :23:57.spin those wheels as they head up the hill. Let's see the lap time for

:23:58. > :24:02.Sebastien battle. -- Sebastian Vettel. It puts him faith. A

:24:03. > :24:07.representative time for him. Rosberg is still quickest. We had to say

:24:08. > :24:14.Mercedes are looking pretty good. They were quick this morning. The

:24:15. > :24:21.time by Rosberg earlier on is still holding up. Still a good lap. It

:24:22. > :24:25.seems the intermediate is very good in the first sector. It loses a

:24:26. > :24:32.little bit out in the second sector and then re-games. We are trying to

:24:33. > :24:38.find a line. You see a lot in the second sector. Alonso is struggling

:24:39. > :24:42.a little bit on the standing water. He is still going out on the

:24:43. > :24:46.corners. I do not know the weather forecast for Sunday. It is changing

:24:47. > :24:50.by the minute. The fact they are all out on the track and doing laps,

:24:51. > :24:55.there is a feeling there might be more rain to come at the weekend.

:24:56. > :25:00.And very slight difference in diameter between intermediate and

:25:01. > :25:13.wet tyres. They are trying to lift the tyre of the ground. Probably not

:25:14. > :25:22.enough sometimes. The cars are still low. Here, in particular, you get

:25:23. > :25:28.Hollywood style rain. It chucks it down all of a sudden. You are

:25:29. > :25:32.right. I walked over now. It started raining and it comes down very

:25:33. > :25:42.quickly. No matter the tyres, you end up with the plank skating across

:25:43. > :25:50.the water surface and the guy is a passenger. What is the weather

:25:51. > :25:54.forecast? It is pretty good. Everyone has a different version. It

:25:55. > :26:00.could be fun and adds spice into the mix. We always like a race like

:26:01. > :26:05.that. Thank you for telling us what is going on out there. What about

:26:06. > :26:11.conditions for you down in the pit lane at the moment? Is the rain

:26:12. > :26:16.still falling as heavily? It is. It has not changed in the past half an

:26:17. > :26:25.hour. The drops are heavy. It will be interesting. I remember the last

:26:26. > :26:37.race in 2003 and the rain will stop anything can happen when it comes to

:26:38. > :26:40.the race if it is raining. The result of that race went to a

:26:41. > :26:46.hearing. That is something I would like to thank Mark Webber four. He

:26:47. > :26:56.helped us as well. We have just seen a spin from Lewis Hamilton. Not a

:26:57. > :27:02.crash but a complete 360. Mark Webber crashed and then Alonso

:27:03. > :27:08.crashed into his debris, didn't he? He did. The race got stopped. It got

:27:09. > :27:17.stopped on Lap 54. We filled the car with your. Everybody got fed up with

:27:18. > :27:23.the race. Lo and behold we were leading the race at the time. Very

:27:24. > :27:26.appreciative to Mark Webber and Fernando Alonso. Seeing them

:27:27. > :27:38.slipping and sliding around at the moment with just over seven and a

:27:39. > :27:53.half minutes to go. He wants a low less front wing. Still changes and

:27:54. > :27:57.-- on the last lap. Sebastian Vettel has gone second. If it is wet this

:27:58. > :28:03.weekend, no doubt the Mercedes seems to be in good shape. Hamilton is

:28:04. > :28:07.having the odd moment out on track. He might be able to string out a

:28:08. > :28:12.quick lap on the final session. He is on a quick lap at the moment. He

:28:13. > :28:17.will improve from where he is, which is 21st. I am not sure how far up

:28:18. > :28:23.the order he will go. Sebastian Vettel is half a second up on the

:28:24. > :28:28.best so far of Rosberg. This could be a change from him now. I think he

:28:29. > :28:37.will lose the top spot. Here comes Sebastian Vettel. Does he go

:28:38. > :28:44.quickest? Yes, he does, by seven tenths of a second. That is quite a

:28:45. > :28:49.margin. Downforce is still king. If it is wet or dry, if your car has

:28:50. > :28:54.more downforce, you will have more grip. The more downforce you have,

:28:55. > :29:00.the more confidence the driver gets. Right now it is still wet

:29:01. > :29:06.weather tyre time. That all has gone out on the intermediate. Some hairy

:29:07. > :29:12.moments. I am sure they can beat that time right now. Lewis Hamilton

:29:13. > :29:18.did not improve massively. I thought he was going to. He is still down in

:29:19. > :29:22.20th initially. About three tenths down in the first sector compared

:29:23. > :29:26.with the time by Sebastien battle. Let's see what he does in the second

:29:27. > :29:34.sector. He is trying to get the power down. It looks fun when they

:29:35. > :29:38.go sideways but it normally means they are losing some time. In the

:29:39. > :29:43.middle sector, it is seven tenths down on the best we have seen from

:29:44. > :29:48.Sebastian Vettel. He still has his supporters - Lewis Hamilton. He has

:29:49. > :29:54.only had one podium finish in Brazil in the past. He has never had a race

:29:55. > :30:02.victory. He is bird. Certainly more competitive. He is three tenths

:30:03. > :30:12.slower than his team-mate. -- bird. A big slide I Pastor Maldonado. He

:30:13. > :30:19.carries on in the Williams. Where is he? He is 21st at the moment. Jenson

:30:20. > :30:24.Button has not done anything representative. He has done a slow

:30:25. > :30:28.timed lap. Jensen is not bothered about going out and impressing

:30:29. > :30:33.people in the rain. He has done that several times in the past. He won

:30:34. > :30:37.last year in wet and dry and does not need to show what he can do.

:30:38. > :30:46.Hamilton has gone fast in the first sector. This crash helmet has been

:30:47. > :30:49.designed for Lewis Hamilton. He had just gone fastest in the first

:30:50. > :30:54.sector. That has now gone to Mark Webber by the way. All changing here

:30:55. > :30:59.as the track conditions definitely do seem to be improving a little

:31:00. > :31:04.bit. Sebastian Vettel also seeing what he can do on the intermediate

:31:05. > :31:08.tyre. We could see a few more changes in the closing moments. Who

:31:09. > :31:11.knows? It might be the same situation in qualifying tomorrow. It

:31:12. > :31:15.might be a session where the track is trying up a little bit and it is

:31:16. > :31:21.this kind of last-minute lap that counts. We saw a similar situation

:31:22. > :31:30.at 's bar. Lewis Hamilton snatched pole position on that occasion.

:31:31. > :31:36.The two Red Bulls are trading fastest laps. We still have one more

:31:37. > :31:44.practise to go on Saturday morning. Yes, faster again, 1: 27.5. The

:31:45. > :31:48.intermediate tyres go well. L.. Red Bull one, two, there is a surprise.

:31:49. > :31:53.Going ahead of Rosberg, who has pushed down to third and Jean-Eric

:31:54. > :32:00.Vergne who has don a good lap. He has gone up to fourth fastest as

:32:01. > :32:05.Jenson Button will come out on the intermedia tyre. Nicely heated up.

:32:06. > :32:09.So if he can get a bit out on to track and keep the tyre temperature,

:32:10. > :32:12.he should be able to put a one more lap before the end here. Onboard

:32:13. > :32:17.with Fernando Alonso. Let us see what this lap is going to be like

:32:18. > :32:25.for Fernando, he is eighth at the moment.

:32:26. > :32:28.And, yes, he is fifth now, so a slight improvement, for the Ferrari

:32:29. > :32:31.driver, Jean-Eric Vergne still another good lap, so they will be

:32:32. > :32:35.keeping an eye on him. You can see there is a sort of line round the

:32:36. > :32:39.track now, that as long as they can stay on that line, they miss the

:32:40. > :32:44.worst of the standing water, and that is what they are desperately

:32:45. > :32:49.trying to do here as they continue round. Heikki Kovalainen is ninth

:32:50. > :32:53.fastest, his tame mate Romain Grosjean is tenth. So competitive

:32:54. > :32:56.between the two. Bit of an opportunity for Kovalainen to show

:32:57. > :32:58.what he can do in changeable conditions.

:32:59. > :33:05.Always nice to have that opportunity.

:33:06. > :33:09.Who else is on a quick lap? Rosberg, 21.9. So Rosberg having seen what

:33:10. > :33:14.the Red Bulls are doing has gone back to to see if he request

:33:15. > :33:20.improve. Hamilton is down in seventh but has completed a slow lap. He has

:33:21. > :33:23.done a good first sector Hamilton. So it could be that both Mercedes

:33:24. > :33:27.are going to show something in the final couple of moments. Jenson

:33:28. > :33:32.Button is trying to position him for one lap here, I think, pasted by

:33:33. > :33:37.Felipe Massa, in the Ferrari, Massa is down in 18th but this lap will

:33:38. > :33:42.improve his position, I am sure. -- passed. Let us see where this brings

:33:43. > :33:47.him. Bottas has moved #u7, he is up to 14th vament. We Valtteri

:33:48. > :33:53.Bottasment we saw what he can do in the damp in Canada. Maldonado has

:33:54. > :33:57.been off track, I think, again, but has continued at turn one. Rosberg

:33:58. > :34:02.goes fastest again, so just after Red Bull seem to have the edge, now

:34:03. > :34:08.Rosberg goes quickest of all. Let us see what Vettel is doing. First

:34:09. > :34:13.sector reasonable, but not as quick as Rosberg's. Who else is on a quick

:34:14. > :34:19.lap? Let us keep an eye on it. Hamilton? He has backed off mid lap.

:34:20. > :34:25.He had a good first sector and now he has backed off. Sliding round for

:34:26. > :34:29.Vettel. Let us see what the lap is as he comes round to complete it.

:34:30. > :34:38.The flashing red lights obligatory in the wet. That shows you, that lap

:34:39. > :34:42.of 27.6. That is his second best lap.

:34:43. > :34:47.So consistent lap times but not enough to beat Nico Rosberg, who

:34:48. > :34:50.seems to be very rapid in these conditions.

:34:51. > :34:54.The Mercedes will be praying for rain based on what we are seeing

:34:55. > :34:58.right now. Tony, we saw Mercedes quick in the early part of this year

:34:59. > :35:05.in wet conditions and it looks like they are repeating that It looks

:35:06. > :35:10.very promising for them. 27.3, 27.5 and then you would expect Hamilton

:35:11. > :35:15.will improve. So if you have these conditions for the race, yes, they

:35:16. > :35:21.are in it. The problem is you never get consistent conditions. It is

:35:22. > :35:26.bone dry, teeming rain, very rarely you get consistently wet or dry

:35:27. > :35:29.here. Let us see, with the flag out what changes there might be.

:35:30. > :35:32.Kovalainen has gone fourth. Very good lap from him, Romain Grosjean

:35:33. > :35:37.is on the circuit. There could be a few changes I think on this very

:35:38. > :35:50.last lap. Just as it dries up a fraction, so anybody could topple

:35:51. > :35:53.Rosberg from the top. Eighth place for Fernando Alonso. Romain

:35:54. > :35:58.Grosjean, he will Ros cross the line in a moment. Hamilton, keep an eye

:35:59. > :36:02.on him, so Grosjean is ninth. Hamilton has moved up to fifth, so

:36:03. > :36:07.that is a good improvement, but he is a way off his team-mate. Nico

:36:08. > :36:11.Rosberg, some eight tenths away from Rosberg, the pace setter, what about

:36:12. > :36:15.Mark Webber, can he do something? I don't think he has enough in hand,

:36:16. > :36:20.no, he is third fastest, that is an improvement in lap time but it keeps

:36:21. > :36:23.him thirdment only a fraction behind his team-mate. -- third. I think

:36:24. > :36:30.that is most people across the line. Yes, look at that. All the chequered

:36:31. > :36:35.flags are out and it is Rosberg who has therefore ended up topping both

:36:36. > :36:41.sessions here today. Fastest in free practise one, fastest in free

:36:42. > :36:45.practise two as well. 1: 27.3. He likes a good start to the weekend

:36:46. > :36:48.and it means that Mercedes are going to be a threat to Red Bull if the

:36:49. > :36:54.conditions are as we have seen them today. But Red Bull were second and

:36:55. > :36:59.third fastest, only a bit off what Rosberg did. Kovalainen did a good

:37:00. > :37:03.job to go fourth fastest. Several places ahead of Romain Grosjean.

:37:04. > :37:08.Hampton was fifth in the end. Jean-Eric Vergne another outstanding

:37:09. > :37:12.effort by the French driver with 1: 28.4. He could do with a surprise

:37:13. > :37:19.performance to go into the winter on a high. Hulkenberg eighth, then

:37:20. > :37:24.Daniel Ricciardo ninth. Grosjean 10th. Fernando Alonso was 11th.

:37:25. > :37:28.Gutierrez was 12th. Di Resta was 13th ahead of Maldonado who

:37:29. > :37:37.improved. Sutil 15th. Bottas was 16th, ahead of Perez, then Bianchi

:37:38. > :37:41.was fastest, ahead of Giedo van der Garde, Pic and John Hutton -- Jenson

:37:42. > :37:47.Button who never did a full flying lap. But not quite what you would

:37:48. > :37:53.have expected. So that an been an intriguing practise session. Thanks

:37:54. > :37:58.to the guests we have had. Thanks to Tony as well, let us get

:37:59. > :38:05.back down to the paddock now. Thank you. A difficult session to

:38:06. > :38:10.learn too much from, what we do know is Hamilton's ability to get out of

:38:11. > :38:15.a jam is impressive as ever. It is funny, he goes round so quickly, he

:38:16. > :38:19.hasn't got time to put the steering lock on. That is a very long corner

:38:20. > :38:25.an you accelerate round it. It sucks you into get on the lot toing too

:38:26. > :38:30.early. He has had do errors there, so he doesn't want to have a third

:38:31. > :38:33.one. Fingers crossed we will have better conditions for FP 36789 in

:38:34. > :38:37.qualifying but here you never know what is going to to happen. Make

:38:38. > :38:44.sure you join us for the next session, live tomorrow, 12.55 on BBC

:38:45. > :38:47.Two. Then qualifying for the Brazilian Grand Prix is live

:38:48. > :38:51.tomorrow at 3.00. Hopefully you can join us then, and
