:08:09. > :08:14.is just keep an eye on Mark Webber. At the front, Massa is pushing
:08:14. > :08:24.Fernando Alonso. He is saying hurry up. He has to keep the pressure on.
:08:24. > :08:26.
:08:26. > :08:33.Otherwise he will keep himself in the DRS zone. Anyone who can get the
:08:33. > :08:40.activation will gain a massive 15 plus kilometres an hour. In the
:08:40. > :08:47.background the silver car of Rosberg being chased by Romain Grosjean. But
:08:47. > :08:53.Lewis Hamilton is in control. He is trying to control the pace. I think
:08:53. > :09:03.he is in the DRS zone. Lewis Hamilton has opened that gap. But
:09:03. > :09:04.
:09:04. > :09:14.Fernando Alonso will get DRS to Lewis Hamilton. That will neutralise
:09:14. > :09:14.
:09:14. > :09:20.the DRS of Hamilton. I can't see the pit crews out. So I think they will
:09:20. > :09:26.stay out longer on the tyres. Let's look at the start. Kimi Raikkonen's
:09:26. > :09:31.initial getaway was sluggish. He spun the wheels and he was mugged by
:09:31. > :09:41.the two Ferraris. We have a challenge by Lens on Lewis Hamilton.
:09:41. > :09:43.
:09:43. > :09:47.-- Fernando Alonso on Lewis Hamilton. Hamilton has no DRS. Lewis
:09:47. > :09:56.Hamilton at the moment is under pressure. The best for him would be
:09:56. > :10:01.to be pitting from the lead. Romain Grosjean has got past Rosberg.
:10:02. > :10:06.Rosberg dropping back a bit. Another look at the start. You saw how
:10:06. > :10:14.sluggish Kimi Raikkonen was. He goes to the right and Rosberg tries to go
:10:14. > :10:21.around the outside. We saw Massa running wide. He gets caught, one of
:10:21. > :10:29.the Caterhams ran off. So a lot of racing happening at the back. Just
:10:29. > :10:36.listen. Ed like he spun the wheels too much and instead of getting a
:10:36. > :10:41.great launch, his spatial awareness told him where he was. Here is
:10:42. > :10:47.Rosberg, his getaway is better. You see the black lines left by
:10:47. > :10:56.Raikkonen. And just not enough run, a 300 run from the start to the turn
:10:56. > :11:03.one and here is Fernando Alonso having a look. Vettel trying to move
:11:03. > :11:12.on Nico Hulkenberg. Here is the challenge for the lead from Fernando
:11:12. > :11:16.Alonso. They're now in another DRS zone. The DRZ is in operation. Massa
:11:16. > :11:22.flicks to the inside. Lewis Hamilton can do nothing. The two Ferraris are
:11:22. > :11:28.one and two and Lewis Hamilton has to watch out for Kimi Raikkonen.
:11:28. > :11:32.this stage, Lewis Hamilton is also going to be a sitting duck not
:11:32. > :11:38.having DRS. But he needed to break that one second window and he has
:11:38. > :11:43.not been able to do it. This is amazing from Kimi Raikkonen. Can he
:11:43. > :11:51.go outside Lewis Hamilton? No, he can't. Romain Grosjean is catching
:11:51. > :11:55.and Daniel Ricardo has a damaged wing. He has gone into the pits.
:11:55. > :12:00.will be interesting to see where that damage occurred. He was just in
:12:00. > :12:04.front of the group with Nico Hulkenberg and Sebastian Vettel.
:12:04. > :12:11.Rosberg seems to be struggling and behind him in Nico Hulkenberg. This
:12:11. > :12:17.was the overtake of Lewis Hamilton by both Ferraris. He was a sitting
:12:17. > :12:22.duck and in the end the cars have just, well that is Fernando Alonso's
:12:22. > :12:26.girlfriend and girlfriend and they're telling, they're enjoying
:12:26. > :12:32.him taking the lead. This is a good opportunity for Fernando Alonso. I
:12:32. > :12:37.wonder if the two Ferraris will work together? Rosberg has been passed by
:12:37. > :12:43.Nico Hulkenberg. Rosberg is really struggling. The Mercedes are
:12:43. > :12:48.struggling on these tyres. Sebastian Vettel now on Rosberg. Into the
:12:48. > :12:56.hairpin and Sebastian Vettel is in seventh. Mercedes are coming in. It
:12:56. > :13:00.is a damaged rear wing on that Force India. It has lost the top section.
:13:00. > :13:07.That could have been nasty had he not recognised that. Lewis Hamilton
:13:07. > :13:16.and Rosberg. They will double stack. I hope they get their pit stops done
:13:16. > :13:23.quickly. They have no choice. The tyres have gone off the edge: Force
:13:23. > :13:31.India will be getting rolled back into the garage. 3. 3 second stop is
:13:31. > :13:36.pretty good. But not on the same level as the stops from Red Bull.
:13:36. > :13:39.Mark Webber has done the one stop already at the start. Now Mark
:13:39. > :13:44.Webber is ahead. And there is the damage on the back of the Force
:13:44. > :13:51.India. I can't see that car going much further in this race. There is
:13:51. > :13:59.a fire breaking out. It is a brake fire from inside the hub. They're
:13:59. > :14:03.blowing air on it. They want a fire extinguisher. It is bad news again
:14:03. > :14:11.for Force India and they never score points here in China. Sebastian
:14:11. > :14:19.Vettel that was down the inside. Oh he was hit by Esteban Gutierrez I
:14:19. > :14:24.think. Look at this. He is unsighted as he brakes into the corner. He was
:14:24. > :14:29.battles -- battling with Perez. Oh no there is the corner. All the
:14:29. > :14:34.front runners on the soft tyre have made their pit stop. The race is led
:14:34. > :14:44.by those who started on the harder compound tyres. Here goes Lewis
:14:44. > :14:59.
:14:59. > :15:04.Hamilton. He gets past Jean-Eric Vergne. . Vettel is only 12 seconds
:15:04. > :15:11.in front of Al. It takes about 19 seconds to do a combined pit stop.
:15:11. > :15:15.Three seconds for the stop and time in pit lane. When Vettel does his
:15:15. > :15:18.stop. He will slot out a few seconds behind that leading group with
:15:18. > :15:23.Hamilton. They will all be going quickly themselves. Look at
:15:23. > :15:30.Hulkenberg. Even with the DRS on Vettel's car, he wasn't closing the
:15:30. > :15:35.gap. . Right in the slipstream of the Red Bull. He will go for the
:15:35. > :15:39.pass. He opens the DRS now. He gets a massive overspeed. Mark Webber
:15:39. > :15:43.will pull into the slipstream but he will be left behind as they break
:15:43. > :15:48.into turn 14. Chasing them is Rosberg. He ran wide in the
:15:48. > :15:51.break-up. They are very susceptible to tyre variation on that back
:15:51. > :15:55.straight. You lose something like 30 degrees in track and surface
:15:55. > :16:00.temperature from the tyre. They are normally on about 100. They are down
:16:00. > :16:05.around 70 when they hit the brakes. That's why we are seeing a few lock
:16:05. > :16:11.ups which have led to delamb nation of the tyre. Webber might be within
:16:12. > :16:18.DRS range him sechlt but the -- himself. The Red Bulls don't have
:16:18. > :16:22.that. They go for a better downforce and trade it against the straight
:16:22. > :16:27.line speed. Maybe it is hurting Webber and Vettel. You are riding
:16:27. > :16:30.with Vettel. Three-quarters of a second of a gap of these two, riding
:16:30. > :16:33.first and second. Button is three seconds further behind, remember.
:16:33. > :16:37.Let's just watch. He has to get closer. He has to be within a second
:16:37. > :16:41.to get the DRS. I think he is probably close enough. As we saw
:16:41. > :16:47.last up, he still couldn't make the pass. Interestingly, Hulkenberg, it
:16:47. > :16:52.is the second time he has led in the last four races. He is making a name
:16:52. > :16:57.for himself. Making the move from Force India to Sauber. And, well,
:16:57. > :17:01.keeping that gap. He is within the one-second trigger point but too far
:17:01. > :17:05.back. DRS open but too far back to gain the advantage. Great stuff here
:17:05. > :17:10.from Hulkenberg. Interestingly, Sergio Perez actually did lead a few
:17:10. > :17:15.laps here last year when he was driving for Sauber. More as the
:17:15. > :17:19.strategies worked out. This is partly the same.
:17:19. > :17:23.Here can comes Massa. That puts him into tenth. He lost out amongst the
:17:23. > :17:29.early stops. That was a very straightforward overtake for the
:17:29. > :17:35.Brazilian. You are on board with Lewis as he bears down on Paul di
:17:35. > :17:39.Resta. He is very quick. . He almost hits the back of the Force India off
:17:39. > :17:42.the back of that into turn six. So Lewis Hamilton, well, we know
:17:42. > :17:47.exactly what his position is right now then. He is feeling he doesn't
:17:47. > :17:54.have the pace of the Ferrari. Look at the front-left tyres. The marbled
:17:54. > :17:58.green across the surface. They'll clean up. He is in dirty air,
:17:58. > :18:02.quicker than the car in front but he is taking away the clean air in the
:18:02. > :18:07.surfaces of your wings. He has used it up. It gives you a whole bunch of
:18:07. > :18:16.sand in your face effectively. Not pretty. Meanwhile his team-mate...
:18:16. > :18:20.Box, box, box. . Well, that's quite interesting. That is... Well for
:18:20. > :18:26.them to bring it in, we thought Vettel would go deeper but it looks
:18:26. > :18:36.to be a three-stop race for Vettel. And Hulkenberg running in the dirty
:18:36. > :19:11.
:19:11. > :19:15.Malaysia were awesome. awesome. Worse if you are the driver of the
:19:15. > :19:21.Grand Prix, and you present the car to the pit box and for whatever
:19:21. > :19:29.reason, your guys are not able to service it. It is not just down to
:19:29. > :19:34.human element. -- human error. no, contact. Mark Webber, damage to
:19:34. > :19:38.the front edge of his car on the centre team of Torro Rosso.
:19:38. > :19:41.Jean-Eric Vergne, who is touting for a drive next year, perhaps at Red
:19:41. > :19:47.Bull because they always are the junior team, it's not good news at
:19:47. > :19:53.all. . It will be an extra pit stop now for Mark Webber. It looked like
:19:53. > :19:56.he made a lead decision to go for the overtake. In fairness to
:19:56. > :20:00.Jean-Eric, you can imagine his eyes were on the road but maybe they
:20:00. > :20:09.thought there would be nor compliance from the centre team. --
:20:09. > :20:17.sister team. He will undoubtedly have to pit this lap. . How does the
:20:17. > :20:22.car feel, Mark? . We will box this lap. They are going to use it anyway
:20:22. > :20:26.to come in. Remember, he has done for the 14 laps on these tyres, so
:20:26. > :20:30.perhaps it won't make such a big difference. Let's take another look.
:20:30. > :20:35.He certainly makes the move to go for the inside but it was so late
:20:35. > :20:41.for Jean Eric that he didn't - he has his eyes on the road and
:20:41. > :20:45.watching the mirror. Once you turn n imagine inside the cockpit so
:20:45. > :20:50.Jean-Eric can probably sense he is there but he hasn't got himself
:20:50. > :20:53.alongside until he commits to the turn-in. Well, there is no benefit
:20:53. > :20:59.in Jean-Eric trying to make contact with another car. So a racing
:20:59. > :21:04.incident, rather than any malice in it. There you go, new tyres, new
:21:04. > :21:11.front wing, off you go. Look how much time it adds to a conventional
:21:11. > :21:16.stop. Other, look and Raikkonen has hit the back of Perez. We'll wait
:21:16. > :21:18.for Raikkonen's radio message. Well-spotted Ben. The front tip is
:21:18. > :21:23.broken. What is the damage like on the front wings themselves?
:21:23. > :21:28.Difficult to say at this point but that is major drama, of course for
:21:28. > :21:33.Raikkonen. He is chasing after Hamilton. Let's wait for the replay
:21:33. > :21:38.but if Perez has been leading in the approach to the braking zone then
:21:38. > :21:46.coming off the back of what we said earlier, it leads to incidents. You
:21:46. > :21:56.have to trust the men who race at 200 miles per hour. What is he
:21:56. > :21:58.
:21:58. > :22:01.doing?doing? . . The tip of the nose doesn't have the overall
:22:01. > :22:08.performance. The weekend has got even worse for Mark Webber. What
:22:08. > :22:13.does he have to do at the moment? Raikkonen finally gets passed --
:22:13. > :22:17.past Perez. We can see from our commentary box position, he is out
:22:18. > :22:26.of gear. He is in third. Is it stuck? I think so. .Lets lths'
:22:26. > :22:31.listen. -- let's listen. OK, Mark, come back slowly. Come back, slowly.
:22:31. > :22:35.A great shame and after the dramas of Malaysia, the win was taken from
:22:35. > :22:40.him by Sebastian Vettel. Now he is out early on. Now here is what
:22:41. > :22:45.happened to Raikkonen. Right, OK. He is on the grass. Well, he went to go
:22:45. > :22:50.to the outside and Perez has run probably the normal line, through
:22:50. > :22:58.turn five. He goes to the outside and Perez squeezes over, so
:22:58. > :23:04.Raikkonen, well... Let's just see a few more of those before we can...
:23:04. > :23:14.Raikkonen goes eventually for the pass. He is still out there with the
:23:14. > :23:14.
:23:14. > :23:20.damage on the front wing but quick enough to get out past the McLaren.
:23:20. > :23:26.At least having made a mistake they didn't compound the herror with that
:23:26. > :23:33.pit stop. We now have Jenson Button leading this race. He has not had to
:23:33. > :23:38.make a pit stop. Alonso is up to second. Hamilton is currentedly in
:23:38. > :23:41.third place. You are watching Massa who is under pressure from Vettel.
:23:41. > :23:46.And Vettel on a different strategy. Mark Webber trying to keep well out
:23:46. > :23:50.of the way. Difficult here at the hair pin. It is so narrow on the
:23:50. > :23:55.apex itself. You are watching for Massa and Vettel. Heading down to
:23:55. > :23:59.that area. They are behind Perez. His wheel has come off right in
:23:59. > :24:03.front of Vettel. Would you believe it? His wheel was rolling across the
:24:03. > :24:09.road in front of his team-mate. Everyone has managed to miss it.
:24:09. > :24:14.Yes, so far. Thakfully it has gone to the inside, to a safe position.
:24:14. > :24:19.You couldn't make that up. You just could not make that up.
:24:19. > :24:23.Alonso... Now what do we have here? Alonso trying to catch Button who is
:24:23. > :24:27.leading this race now. Remember, Jenson Button has done 17 laps on
:24:27. > :24:32.this set of tyres. He has gone deeper into the race. McLaren maybe
:24:32. > :24:38.trying to make this a two-stop, unlike Vettel who certainly seems to
:24:38. > :24:43.be making it a three stop but we know McLaren doesn't have the pays
:24:43. > :24:47.pace of this year's Ferrari. Alonsowill probably strategically
:24:47. > :24:51.keep himself back just a little bit, so as not to overwork those tyres
:24:51. > :24:57.and bring them into position, as they come down to the DRS activation
:24:57. > :25:07.zone which is just after this corner. R.. There you go
:25:07. > :25:08.
:25:08. > :25:13.Alonsogetting himself into position. . Raikkonen has been hampered with
:25:13. > :25:18.this. That will add time to the overall Grand Prix but Button was
:25:18. > :25:22.very quick into that last turn, 13. It looks like Alonsowill not be able
:25:22. > :25:26.to get past him. Presumably that was a problem on the
:25:26. > :25:30.pit stop. That wheel became detached completely. It was probably separate
:25:30. > :25:35.to the actual incident that brought him in. The contact was at the front
:25:35. > :25:41.of the car. Damaged the nose to the front axel. It was fine. That's
:25:41. > :25:46.probably just an issue with the seating of that rear wheel.
:25:46. > :25:50.Raikkonen has to go the long way. He will not be happy about that. Then
:25:50. > :25:54.three wheels on my wagon. Let's see where the tyre goes. Well a bit
:25:54. > :25:57.lake, Mark, if you were trying to have it. It rolled in front of your
:25:57. > :26:01.team-mate but a good effort. That would have been revenge, wouldn't
:26:01. > :26:06.it, for last weekend? It didn't happen. It would have been very
:26:06. > :26:12.nasty, too. Bear that in mind. It is a very slow corner. I guess the
:26:12. > :26:17.impact would not have been as it might have been on a fast bend.
:26:17. > :26:21.shows how close it is. But the tyre found a gap in the traffic and
:26:21. > :26:25.rolled itself. Mark Webber, well that's his third retirement in the
:26:25. > :26:30.last six races. Look at this, Sebastian Vettel gets
:26:30. > :26:35.down the inside of Sergio Perez. That was a good, clean pass. No
:26:35. > :26:38.problem at all there for Sebastian Vettel. That puts him up into fifth
:26:38. > :26:42.fifth position now as he continues to chase after the likes of
:26:42. > :26:47.Raikkonen and Hamilton. But, do remember that Sebastian Vettel at
:26:47. > :26:52.some point has to still run the soft tyre. At some stage in this race he
:26:52. > :26:57.has to do so. Hulkenberg is in the same boat. He at some point has to
:26:57. > :27:01.run the soft tyre. He is not far behind Vettel. Interesting Button is
:27:01. > :27:06.leading this race. If he pitted now he would come out in ninth between
:27:06. > :27:11.Massa and Grosjean. Grosjean is 21 seconds behind him. McLaren are
:27:11. > :27:21.playing with a three-second window to get the man out in front of the
:27:21. > :27:25.
:27:25. > :27:29.Lotus. Here comes Alo. No DRS was operating that time. . Look for the
:27:29. > :27:36.Ferrari passing this McLaren as they run down the clock. Alonsogot wide.
:27:36. > :27:42.We can see under the rear wing of the McLaren, on to the kerb. He is
:27:42. > :27:49.going to catch him late. Alonso is going for the lead and taking it.
:27:49. > :27:56.I'm not sure if Raikkonen had a go. To get past Jenson Button. He wasn't
:27:56. > :28:00.far enough. Ever the showman. He didn't want it waste that on a pass
:28:00. > :28:09.when anyone was watching, other than the millions of viewers. He saved it
:28:09. > :28:17.for the main grand stand. I'm sure the Chinese fans went crazy. So can
:28:17. > :28:24.Kimi Raikkonen get past here? struggling for grip. The technical
:28:24. > :28:34.man, Gary Anderson, should tell us if that has any affect on the aero
:28:34. > :28:38.die am aic of the car? -- dynamic. . Could talk about the dirty air.
:28:38. > :28:43.Again, again. That's his third stop. There must be a problem for Rosberg.
:28:43. > :28:47.He stopped only a few laps ago. Definitely a problem. This is
:28:47. > :28:51.Vettel's pass on Perez. You were saying we'll ask Gary to the damage
:28:51. > :28:57.to the front of the Lotus, will it affect him. What is the answer? It
:28:57. > :29:07.will affect him. A bit less downforce and it'll use up the
:29:07. > :29:14.
:29:14. > :29:21.downtyres. He is one of the quickest cars now. They are five laps old.
:29:21. > :29:25.we want to fight? Yes we do. Fight! Just explain what that is the about.
:29:25. > :29:30.Surely they're going to fight? They're managing the tyres and it is
:29:30. > :29:38.making sure they're in the best track positionment on that long
:29:38. > :29:42.straight, Jenson Button has removed his racing gloves and put on a pair
:29:42. > :29:48.of boxing gloves on the instructions of the team. Paul di Resta is
:29:48. > :29:52.fending off Felipe Massa and it does make a massive difference. Paul will
:29:52. > :29:57.have to switch to the softer tyre later and that has the danger of
:29:57. > :30:05.dropping him down. Lewis Hamilton still can't get past Jenson Button
:30:05. > :30:10.in the McLaren. Do not lose time defending against Fernando Alonso.
:30:10. > :30:19.Lap times are critical. There is the alternative argument. Don't fight.
:30:19. > :30:25.When you fight you have to defend and run different lines. And you can
:30:25. > :30:30.end up spinning the rear tyre. You have got to use the optimum line and
:30:30. > :30:36.in some ways the best way to get maximum points from the weekend is
:30:36. > :30:43.playing the long game. It is almost like a game of chess, you sacrifice
:30:43. > :30:49.a pawn to gain something else. In this case it is about avmging --
:30:49. > :30:53.averaging your points across the season. Lewis Hamilton now very much
:30:53. > :31:00.within the DRS activation point and he is within the one second. Venlt
:31:00. > :31:05.he ran over the -- He ran over the inside kerb there. Let's see where
:31:05. > :31:11.he is. He looks a bit far back to get a good activation from the DRS.
:31:11. > :31:16.He might be all over the back of McLaren by the time they get to the
:31:16. > :31:21.braking zone. Sebastian Vettel is still in France of Fernando Alonso.
:31:21. > :31:27.He ran the kerb through 12 and that meant he ran wider before he could
:31:27. > :31:32.get on the power on turn 13. will come into effect again. There
:31:32. > :31:40.it goes. The flap opens up. Jenson Button, middle ground at the moment.
:31:40. > :31:46.What will happen at the end of the straight? It is a strays -- straight
:31:46. > :31:51.forward pass. In fighting terms that is like going out and getting
:31:51. > :31:55.knocked out with the first punch. didn't even bother to force him
:31:55. > :32:00.around the outside. He would have compromised his position into turn
:32:01. > :32:06.one and picked up dirt in his tyres. Had Lewis Hamilton tried somewhere
:32:06. > :32:08.else, he would have put up more of a fight. The Ferrari bearing down on
:32:09. > :32:14.the Red Bull and this weekend's performance from Ferrari, whatever
:32:14. > :32:18.happens in this race, has been massively ekurnling. They know --
:32:18. > :32:23.encouraging. They know they have got a strong car. They had that great
:32:23. > :32:27.second place in Australia. He felt he could challenge in Malaysia. That
:32:27. > :32:32.went wrong when he damaged his front wing against the back of Sebastian
:32:32. > :32:36.Vettel's car. But he just drives around the inside again. No problem
:32:36. > :32:40.and as instructed, Sebastian Vettel didn't fight it. Fernando Alonso
:32:40. > :32:46.will get DRS again to further compound his lap time. Sebastian
:32:46. > :32:55.Vettel, no DRS of course, because he was behind going into the corner.
:32:55. > :32:59.Fernando Alonso strat egically using the tools well. That was Fernando
:32:59. > :33:04.Alonso running around the inside of Sebastian Vettel to take the lead in
:33:04. > :33:07.the Grand Prix. This is where Lewis Hamilton got past Jenson Button.
:33:07. > :33:14.Superior speed with the DRS in operation and through he went, no
:33:14. > :33:21.trouble at all. Raikkonen right in position here under the rear wing of
:33:21. > :33:27.Jenson Button. He won't be able to do anything through seven and eight.
:33:27. > :33:33.They are slower than when they are qualifying. He is trying to line
:33:33. > :33:38.himself up for the next DRS zone. Perez on his soft tyres has done six
:33:38. > :33:43.laps and his last lap, you can see where the tyres are beginning to
:33:43. > :33:51.lose performance. It looks like the soft option tyre only has six laps
:33:51. > :33:57.in it. Box, box, box. Toshing one and box. That is Vettel who will be
:33:57. > :34:04.coming in from second place. Will he choose to run the option or leave it
:34:04. > :34:08.until the end of race. Well it will be purely... Raikkonen down the
:34:08. > :34:12.inside, past Jenson Button. No problem at all. The decision will be
:34:12. > :34:17.based on how many laps they think they will get out of it and where as
:34:17. > :34:22.a result of making the next stop will they end up being in traffic.
:34:22. > :34:27.This is not just about where it puts them now. But where it will put them
:34:27. > :34:32.in the next round of stops. It is the medium compound. The harder
:34:32. > :34:37.tyre. They want to save that option tyre for later in the race. McLaren
:34:37. > :34:42.coming out into the pit as well. Nico Hulkenberg on that soft tyre
:34:42. > :34:47.has just set the fastest lap of the race and he comes out behind Felipe
:34:47. > :34:55.Massa I think. Yes, comes out in eighth. Perez for McLaren. He is
:34:55. > :35:00.coming into his box. Huck trying to -- Nico Hulkenberg trying to get
:35:00. > :35:04.past Paul di Resta. He has got past di Resta and that puts him into
:35:04. > :35:09.sixth. Here is Sebastian Vettel on a move on Felipe Massa and he has done
:35:09. > :35:15.it. That was brave and committed from Sebastian Vettel. That is how
:35:15. > :35:21.you do it. There was no hesitation. The move came late on Jean-Eric
:35:21. > :35:25.Vergne and Vettel made it clear that I'm coming through and Massa has no
:35:26. > :35:32.choice but to leave the door open and hope Sebastian Vettel has
:35:32. > :35:39.misjudged it. On that case, on the fresh tyres, made good use of the
:35:39. > :35:45.extra grip. Massa has done 13 laps on the tyres he is on. He has to use
:35:45. > :35:52.that extra grip while he has the opportunity. Here he goes down the
:35:52. > :35:56.insite of rest -- inside of Paul di Resta. And Paul di Resta doing his
:35:56. > :36:02.best to get some points here for Force India. They have been out of
:36:02. > :36:08.the points in China in the past and he has finished 11th himself. But he
:36:08. > :36:14.still has that soft tyre to run. Still keeping an eye on Nico
:36:14. > :36:21.Hulkenberg's performance on that tyre. He has done a good job and
:36:21. > :36:29.only done one stop. 18 laps on that set of tyres. So a good effort by
:36:29. > :36:35.him. Kimi Raikkonen, how far behind Lewis Hamilton is he. Well only 1. 3
:36:35. > :36:39.seconds. This is still one that rimy want -- Kimi wants to try and do.
:36:39. > :36:45.They started together on the grid, but the Ferrari of Fernando Alonso
:36:45. > :36:50.has had the more competitive performance. He was looking to
:36:50. > :36:53.position his car on the outside and Massa made it clear that he was
:36:53. > :36:58.going in that direction. He is looking for the outside initially.
:36:58. > :37:04.He has to lift out of it and then it is in the second phase of the breaks
:37:04. > :37:08.that he goes down the inside. That is a very difficult move. On board
:37:08. > :37:14.with Kimi Raikkonen, looking back at Lewis Hamilton. It was this area
:37:14. > :37:18.that Kimi had his problem last year. Box now. Here we go. Final stop for
:37:18. > :37:24.Ferrari. Perfect three-stop territory. Great example of how calm
:37:24. > :37:28.the guys are. They know he will be boxing. No emotion. They bring out a
:37:28. > :37:33.new set of primes. They can see where their racer is. They don't
:37:33. > :37:38.have much time to get into position and they tend to keep the tyre off
:37:38. > :37:41.the cement in the pit, because they lose heat so quickly. You need to
:37:41. > :37:46.keep them at the working temperature. Fernando Alonso comes
:37:46. > :37:52.in. They need a good clean pit stop. They are looking good for victory.
:37:52. > :37:57.But there is still a little way to go. It is OK. Not the fastest.
:37:57. > :38:04.looked like the front jack man was out of the way, but Fernando Alonso
:38:04. > :38:09.waits for light to tell him it is safe to go. There is Vettel coming
:38:09. > :38:14.through. He still has his pit stop to do and he is going to be going on
:38:14. > :38:18.the soft tyre. Fernando Alonso still looking good. Yes, but Sebastian
:38:18. > :38:22.Vettel is where he likes to be, that is leading a Grand Prix, but of
:38:22. > :38:26.course these guys all know that chasing podiums is how you win the
:38:26. > :38:30.Championship and that is how Fernando Alonso came so close
:38:31. > :38:35.beating Sebastian Vettel last year. Another fastest lap from Lewis
:38:35. > :38:38.Hamilton. He is within a second now of Kimi Raikkonen. So Kimi Raikkonen
:38:38. > :38:44.definitely not secure in his position. Remember, they're also
:38:44. > :38:46.both racing against Sebastian Vettel. Both Lewis Hamilton and Kimi
:38:47. > :38:52.Raikkonen are racing against Sebastian Vettel. We will see how
:38:52. > :38:56.that works out as we go through the rest of the Grand Prix. Massa is in
:38:56. > :39:02.seventh in the other Ferrari and seems to have lost out that first
:39:02. > :39:07.pit stop cost him hugely. He has not been able to deliver the performance
:39:07. > :39:12.that Fernando Alonso has done. Gary, I wanted to bring you in. It looks
:39:12. > :39:18.good for Fernando Alonso, but it is about second and third isn't it?
:39:18. > :39:22.Yes, Sebastian Vettel's 15 seconds behind Fernando Alonso. Well he is
:39:22. > :39:25.in the lead now, but he was 15 seconds behind. So they will come
:39:25. > :39:31.out together after the pit stop. It is one of those things with u --
:39:31. > :39:37.where you immediate to make sure you have 22 seconds make that gap, or
:39:37. > :39:40.you not going to make it. I wonder how McLaren's strategy is working
:39:41. > :39:45.out. Jenson Button is third. Here is Fernando Alonso. I think it will be
:39:45. > :39:52.an easy overtake. Fernando Alonso reclaims the lead in the Chinese
:39:52. > :40:00.Grand Prix once more. He is looking good and vettal has to -- vettal has
:40:00. > :40:06.to -- Vettel has to manage his tyres. That was the right strategy
:40:06. > :40:10.from Jenson Button. It is taking the best result they can. I don't think
:40:10. > :40:15.they would win the race. We are racing Vettel. Let's close up to
:40:15. > :40:24.him. Do you think they have got a chance against Vettel They're doing
:40:24. > :40:30.the same lap time. After a while the tyres become stable for a long time.
:40:30. > :40:35.So yes, I think so. What is the longest run on the soft tyre?
:40:36. > :40:41.was the only one we saw and that was six laps. And he was struggling. You
:40:41. > :40:51.have got to look at that, two seconds was too much. Box,
:40:51. > :40:52.
:40:52. > :40:57.bombardment, box. -- bombardment box, box, box. This should bring him
:40:57. > :41:02.out ahead of Paul di Resta. He will be behind Lewis Hamilton and quite a
:41:02. > :41:06.way behind Hamilton. So will the soft tyres allow him to close that
:41:06. > :41:12.gap to Lewis Hamilton and to Kimi Raikkonen? He needs to make up more
:41:12. > :41:18.than 10 seconds. This stop will cost him about 18 seconds in total. That
:41:18. > :41:23.will drop him out behind Lewis Hamilton by ten seconds. In comes
:41:23. > :41:28.Sebastian Vettel. He goes on to the new. A little slow getting the front
:41:28. > :41:34.jack away. Not a disaster, but they were a bit slow. He needs every
:41:34. > :41:41.tenth of a second. 3. 4 seconds. Away goes Sebastian Vettel then.
:41:41. > :41:50.Rejoins once again. And well let's see how this settles down and keep
:41:50. > :41:57.an eye on Jenson Button's lap pace. Jenson Button going into turn one
:41:57. > :42:02.now. Sebastian Vettel on his run o through four and five and into turn
:42:02. > :42:10.six. This is like four qualifying laps. You can race to the finish.
:42:10. > :42:14.Race to the finish. You're got a big gap behind. That gives them a
:42:14. > :42:21.comfort zone of just going to play with it and see what you can
:42:21. > :42:27.deliver. Expect these to be fast laps. This is fun to watch.
:42:27. > :42:30.Qualifying laps from Sebastian Vettel, the reigning champion.
:42:30. > :42:35.Trying to catch Kimi Raikkonen and Lewis Hamilton. They are now second
:42:35. > :42:39.and third. Have they got enough to stay in front of him and claim their
:42:39. > :42:43.podium spots, or will Sebastian Vettel close on them? He has just
:42:43. > :42:49.gone fastest in the middle sector. There is the gap, back to the Red
:42:49. > :42:56.Bull. Can he close that gap in the four remaining laps? It is a lot to
:42:56. > :43:02.ask. But he will be giving it his all. We have Raikkonen and Lewis
:43:02. > :43:09.Hamilton have passed in front of us, and what... What happened here was
:43:09. > :43:17.tit jack? Yes --Was it the jack? Yes the jack is the problem. As you
:43:17. > :43:27.see what the gap is to Vettel and to Lewis Hamilton in front. He is 23.
:43:27. > :43:29.
:43:29. > :43:39.It is 11. 5 seconds to make up. I do not think that is doable. The
:43:39. > :43:41.
:43:41. > :43:46.fastest lap has been a 1. 39. 5. don't think he will have enough, do
:43:46. > :43:49.you? No.Well he is fastest again in the first sector. Fernando Alonso
:43:49. > :43:55.dealing with the traffic. We haven't seen him much, because he has been
:43:55. > :43:59.supreme out in front. Just dealing with every situation perfectly. That
:43:59. > :44:05.Ferrari has looked superb as well. They have got a race winning car
:44:05. > :44:10.here. No doubt about it. Malaysia was disappointing, a non-finish,
:44:10. > :44:14.that could be costly, but what a reply to come back and dominate this
:44:14. > :44:23.race. He is 11 seconds ahead of Kimi Raikkonen, with Lewis Hamilton
:44:23. > :44:28.behind. Sebastian Vettel is going two seconds faster in two sectors.
:44:28. > :44:38.If can he can do it in each. What happened with Lewis Hamilton? It is
:44:38. > :44:49.
:44:49. > :44:52.a lock up. In his quest to get into schedule to be getting close to the
:44:52. > :44:59.gear box at the end of the Grand Prix. Getting diminishing returns
:44:59. > :45:04.now. His tyres are no longer brand new. Higher degredation, even on the
:45:04. > :45:08.Mercedes in front, which is on much older prime tyres. There is Vettel
:45:08. > :45:16.in the background. A grandstand finish but I don't know if it'll be
:45:16. > :45:21.enough. Lap time, well he is seconds quicker.
:45:21. > :45:25.The last lap is going to be fun here in China. No doubt about it. It is
:45:25. > :45:30.still Raikkonen second, Hamilton third but Vettel is closing. Has he
:45:30. > :45:34.got enough time to do it? There is traffic ahead. So Raikkonen and
:45:34. > :45:39.Hamilton have to navigate themselves through. A group of smaller cars
:45:39. > :45:45.that are obviously getting on with their Grand Prix. They will get the
:45:45. > :45:51.blue flags. Great stuff. Bianchi up ahead. Bianchi still
:45:51. > :45:59.leading in that young guns group. Next gap to Vettel is 5.20. You have
:45:59. > :46:03.two laps remaining. They didn't tell him how fast Vettel is going.
:46:03. > :46:07.will work that ut for himself. We are on board with Vettel. Watch the
:46:07. > :46:12.driving. Are these tyres going off yet? Can we tell anything from
:46:12. > :46:16.watching, David? He is still going a second a lap faster. We can see the
:46:16. > :46:21.graining. A second a sector faster, excuse me. You can see the tyres
:46:21. > :46:25.opening up. There is the guys racing in front, within sight. It is aed go
:46:26. > :46:33.feeling. It is a big gap, though. When -- it is a good feeling. When
:46:33. > :46:36.you have got them in sight. A bit of a lock-up down there. We have seen
:46:36. > :46:43.Hamilton lock already. Wide there from Vettel but he didn't actually
:46:43. > :46:50.lock up. Getting scrappy now. Into the final lap, ets will see the
:46:50. > :46:58.off-set. -- let's see. The gap was 5. 20 seconds to happen imton. It is
:46:58. > :47:02.down to two seconds. He can do that. He is do it in the rundown to turn
:47:02. > :47:08.14. The battle is onment The traffic is there. Hamilton will be
:47:09. > :47:13.compromised as he runs out turn four and five. Raikkonen should be secure
:47:13. > :47:17.in second. Hamilton has traffic and Vettel catching. And he is dropping
:47:17. > :47:21.back. Clearly Hamilton has fallen into a zone. His tyres have gone
:47:21. > :47:25.off. He is going to be a sitting duck to the Red Bull of Vettel. I
:47:25. > :47:30.don't think he can hold on. The pole sitter, Lewis Hamilton, in the
:47:30. > :47:37.Mercedes. Can he hold on for a second podium finish for Mercedes?
:47:37. > :47:41.Or will it be snatched away in the dying moments of in Grand Prix by
:47:41. > :47:46.Sebastian Vettel? Blue flag, blue flag. He is calling for the blue
:47:46. > :47:51.flag. He is finally past it. He is within the DRS zone, Sebastian
:47:52. > :47:57.Vettel. He has run wide.He has made a couple of mistakes. Hamilton is
:47:57. > :48:03.maybe safe. He will get DRS, Vettel. But maybe too far back. The Mercedes
:48:03. > :48:07.is in a straight line. The Red Bull is not as fast in a straight line
:48:07. > :48:12.where Vettel needs T Raikkonen heading down towards the hair pin.
:48:12. > :48:17.Alonso is going to finish but who will finish in third? A lock-up for
:48:17. > :48:23.Bianchi. Alonso wins in China forker if oary. They celebrate already but
:48:23. > :48:26.what will happen -- for Ferrari. Hamilton locks up but he is still
:48:26. > :48:32.there. He is in front of Vettel. Raikkonen second, Hamilton third.
:48:32. > :48:38.Vettel is fourth. What a race to the flag. Brilliant stuff. But Red
:48:38. > :48:42.Bull's strategy did not quite pay off. Jenson Button finishes - he is
:48:42. > :48:46.going to finish in fifth place. McLaren will be very happy about
:48:46. > :48:51.that, delivering a solid result with a car that, perhaps, wasn't up to
:48:51. > :48:58.the mark. But celebration in the Ferrari camp. The first Ferrari win
:48:59. > :49:05.of 2013. The second for Alonso here and the fourth for Ferrari in China.
:49:05. > :49:08.What a result for Fernando Alonso. He dominated this race and Ferrari
:49:08. > :49:13.are definite Championship contenders this year.
:49:13. > :49:20.A very special podium for Fernando Alonso. It's been a while since he
:49:20. > :49:23.last took victory here in China. That was back in 2005 in his Renault
:49:23. > :49:26.days. It looked like a complicated case in
:49:26. > :49:32.terms of strategy but it looked a controlled race from your point of
:49:32. > :49:36.view. Congratulations on the win. was definitely a challenging race
:49:36. > :49:41.for the strategy people but in the car it felt good. Obviously we had
:49:41. > :49:44.two or three laps with newer tyres than our competitors because we
:49:44. > :49:48.stopped always a little bit later. That gave us a little bit of room.
:49:48. > :49:53.I'm confident that even if we have problems with tyres, they will have
:49:53. > :49:58.even more. It was good. But, you know, I think we can, in general,
:49:58. > :50:04.show that the team did step forward. We were competitive. Maybe on
:50:04. > :50:09.Saturday we were not as quick as Red Bull or Mercedes. But on Sundays,
:50:09. > :50:12.Ferrari have a good pace. We need to use that. We heard you on team radio
:50:12. > :50:16.complaining about Sergio Perez. Tell us your thoughts on what he did?
:50:16. > :50:26.Well, I was next to him, really. I don't know if he did anything or
:50:26. > :50:29.what happened. I tried to avoid him but he pushed me on the grass. I'm
:50:29. > :50:34.lucky that there was a kerb that I got some grip back. I think I hit
:50:34. > :50:40.him on the rear and damaged the front but not the ideal situation
:50:40. > :50:44.but I don't know, you just swallow it. My goodness, that was getting
:50:44. > :50:49.tight in the end. Could you see Vettel looming large in your
:50:49. > :50:53.mirrors? He was getting bigger and bigger in the mirrors. Very close.
:50:53. > :50:58.I'm still happy with it. I would have loved to have won. Fernando did
:50:58. > :51:01.a great job. We didn't have the pure pace. In race pace. The same as
:51:01. > :51:06.Lotus as well. We have work to do but this is the best thing for us to
:51:06. > :51:09.be as high as we are. I'm quite happy, still. How difficult is that?
:51:09. > :51:13.I imagine so much trust is involved. When you build a new team that's
:51:13. > :51:18.building every day but you have to drive your own race, let the guys on
:51:18. > :51:22.your pit wall keep you calm and work out what everybody else is doing? Is
:51:22. > :51:26.that an easy way to drive a race car? If you have the pace you have
:51:26. > :51:29.the pace, if you don't, you don't, you make do with what you have.
:51:30. > :51:34.That's what I did. Looking forward it Bahrain are you expecting things
:51:34. > :51:38.to level out as we head into the next races? I anticipate going into
:51:38. > :51:43.the next race. It is very hot there. I would expect Fernando will be
:51:43. > :51:46.quick as well as the Red bulls and Lotus. To finish as high as we are,
:51:46. > :51:50.it will be tough but we'll give everything we can and see if we can
:51:50. > :51:55.get up on the podium. Jenson, certainly an entertaining race from
:51:55. > :51:59.where we were watching. What was it like for you? For me, it is always
:51:59. > :52:03.quite strange. We led quite a bit of the race. When you are doing less
:52:03. > :52:07.stops, it does look more exciting. At the end of the race, it is never
:52:07. > :52:11.quite as exciting. I think we did well today. We had to try something
:52:11. > :52:15.different. We are not quick enough to finish fifth on a three or
:52:15. > :52:21.four-stop strategy. So, we had to go long, which was very tricky with so
:52:21. > :52:24.many people jumping all over each other. It meant it was pretty, in a
:52:24. > :52:27.way it was a strange race for me, I couldn't block and there was no
:52:27. > :52:31.point fighting people. You had to sit and wait for people to overtake
:52:31. > :52:35.you and in the fight back. That was the quickest way to the end of the
:52:35. > :52:39.race. It is not the quickest way to go racing. We got 10 points. We
:52:39. > :52:42.should be proud of what we achieved. We know there is a lot of work to do
:52:42. > :52:47.to improve the car. While the car is not good enough, to come away with
:52:48. > :52:51.ten points is pretty good. I think the right strategy but I was a bit
:52:51. > :52:55.enfortunate with Adrian being a bit aggressive at the end of the race
:52:55. > :52:59.and essentially I came off worse and lost four places. I had to battle
:52:59. > :53:06.off for there. Whether he didn't see me, I will speak to him afterwards
:53:06. > :53:16.but we can be content that our race pace was as strong as we thought.
:53:16. > :53:52.
:53:52. > :53:56.The Chinese Grand Prix ended up like track today. To get you up-to-date.
:53:56. > :54:04.Esteban Gutierrez gets a five-place grid penalty in Bahrain for his
:54:04. > :54:08.accident. And Mark Webber gets a three-place grid penalty for his
:54:08. > :54:11.incident with Jean-Eric Vergne and then we had the DRS incident with
:54:11. > :54:15.eight drivers up for penalties but no further action there. It seems
:54:15. > :54:19.there is a technical issue when the actual activation of the yellow flag
:54:19. > :54:23.boards are out there. Glad to see no further action. At the end it would
:54:23. > :54:28.have spoiled what was ultimately a good race. The yellow flag was out
:54:28. > :54:33.for Mark Webber's car for turn 14. It was cleared awane not a real
:54:33. > :54:38.danger zone, as such. But it left us with a very exciting fternoon's
:54:38. > :54:42.racing. We have seen Alonso show, once again, why he is number one at
:54:42. > :54:48.Ferrari. Kimi Raikkonen is Mr Consistent. Lewis, great pole
:54:48. > :54:52.position. Didn't manage to convert that into something more but being
:54:52. > :54:57.on the podium in the last two races certainly gives him a strong
:54:57. > :55:03.position going forward. He did well to hang on to it. I bet he didn't
:55:03. > :55:07.expect Vettel to make the two errors on the last lap Yes, Vettel close to
:55:07. > :55:13.being able to take the last place in the podium but he made a mistake in
:55:13. > :55:17.11 and put him out of position in 12 before turning the DRS on. Vettel
:55:17. > :55:22.started on the harder of the tyres, the prime tyre and put that option
:55:22. > :55:29.on. He did amazing qualifying laps but came up short. It is setting us
:55:29. > :55:35.up for, three races in, we have the World chi all tight at the top, both
:55:35. > :55:39.in drivers' and constructors'. Ferrari in, top four T could be any
:55:39. > :55:44.of them Ferrari, when they get it right, they are supreme. That was as
:55:44. > :55:49.dominant a victory as we have seen for Fernando in that car. Such a
:55:49. > :55:53.strong start to the year. When you compare back to last season, he did
:55:53. > :55:57.win but it was more to the weather conditions but a pure victory on
:55:57. > :56:01.tyre management and strategy. So they have to be seen as serious
:56:01. > :56:09.title contenders for this year. will be back, of course, next week
:56:09. > :56:14.in Bahrain on BBC One and BBC One H D. Qualifying and highlights for you
