:01:05. > :01:09.Hello and welcome to beautiful Monza. The sun is shining and the

:01:09. > :01:12.Hello and welcome to beautiful atmosphere is building. We are ready

:01:12. > :01:17.for the final practice before qualifying for the Italian Grand

:01:17. > :01:21.Prix. I'm joined by Allan McNish. Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull looked

:01:21. > :01:26.quick yesterday. The others have a lot of work to do. What can you do

:01:26. > :01:32.in a practice session? You are right, they looked quick. I don't

:01:32. > :01:37.think we saw the total picture. Mercedes were running with different

:01:37. > :01:42.fuel loads. We will see the true picture this morning. You can only

:01:42. > :01:49.tune things. We have seen different options with Ferrari. They will make

:01:49. > :01:51.the decision overnight. We came in this morning through

:01:51. > :01:59.the decision overnight. sea of red fans. They are demanding

:01:59. > :02:03.a victory from Harare. So is Fernando Alonso. So often on a

:02:03. > :02:10.Sunday he is playing catch up. How crucial is this afternoon? He needs

:02:10. > :02:15.a win. He has got to pin back Sebastian Vettel in the

:02:16. > :02:24.championship. Here, they need to have a good qualifying. If you give

:02:24. > :02:30.that an inch, he will take a mile. -- is to give Vettel. For me,

:02:30. > :02:34.qualifying is key for Ferrari. Monza is a different circuit. We saw

:02:34. > :02:41.a lot of different parts on the cars yesterday. Is today about refining?

:02:41. > :02:46.It is about deciding what works and what didn't. Lotus have gone back to

:02:46. > :02:51.their standard setup for suspension. We are not sure which

:02:51. > :02:55.way Ferrari went. They will be doing the last things, making sure the

:02:55. > :03:02.driver is comfortable with this low-down specification. The key for

:03:02. > :03:06.the drivers is consistency, the confidence to attack into the

:03:06. > :03:09.corners. One man who is looking around in

:03:09. > :03:15.delay for us in Tom -- is Tom Clarkson.

:03:15. > :03:20.I can see a lot of weary faces. Friday night is the one real

:03:20. > :03:24.opportunity the teams get to really analyse the data and make any

:03:24. > :03:30.significant changes. No team has made more changes than Lotus. They

:03:30. > :03:40.ran two specifications of cars yesterday. That was on Grosjean and

:03:40. > :03:43.Raikkonen. Raikkonen was in a car that was ten centimetres longer.

:03:43. > :03:48.They have reverted him to the traditional car. That means

:03:48. > :03:52.rebuilding the front suspension. It has a new nose. They have been

:03:52. > :03:55.working hard here. It is already very hot. I am in the shade but it

:03:55. > :04:00.working hard here. It is already is 27 degrees and getting hotter.

:04:00. > :04:07.We are quite enjoying it. This is maybe give -- last few days of

:04:07. > :04:12.summer. Jenny will be bringing us news throughout the session. We have

:04:12. > :04:19.got Ben Edwards and Gary Anderson in the commentary box.

:04:19. > :04:23.I think this will start gently. As we get into the final ten minutes,

:04:23. > :04:29.that is when we will see the real will find simulation take place. The

:04:29. > :04:35.problem is that today the track temperature is lower. Now it is down

:04:35. > :04:40.to 35. It will be more difficult to get the tyres warmed up. With so few

:04:40. > :04:46.corners on the lap, it is difficult to get the competent in the braking.

:04:46. > :04:52.Here we are, looking ready for start. They wonderful shot there of

:04:52. > :04:59.the Monza Gardens. The city is in the background. It is almost a

:04:59. > :05:03.suburb of Milan. You can see how close the houses are. We drove

:05:03. > :05:07.through the states on the way into the circuit. It is a noisy place to

:05:07. > :05:12.live, but what a wonderful place to be. So much history at this Monza

:05:12. > :05:18.circuit. We are looking forward to a great battle today. Max Chilton is

:05:18. > :05:24.first out. He was doing a good job yesterday.

:05:24. > :05:33.Bianchi missed the first session because the test driver was in his

:05:33. > :05:40.car in the morning. It is interesting to see that the drivers

:05:40. > :05:46.who didn't get to do their Friday morning, they had to sit out for

:05:46. > :05:51.others, and it is difficult for them. They are always on the back

:05:51. > :05:54.foot. You have got to get used to the sheer speed of some of these

:05:54. > :06:00.corners. It is all about confidence. They are

:06:00. > :06:09.braking down to 60 mph. It is about getting your night in and having the

:06:09. > :06:10.confidence in the brakes. Tom Clarkson has been telling us

:06:10. > :06:16.confidence in the brakes. they are not going to be running the

:06:16. > :06:22.long base car. Here to tell us now is the team principal.

:06:22. > :06:29.Why are you not running... It is noisy. Why are you not running the

:06:29. > :06:34.long wheel base car? We are happy. We brought it here. It is just a

:06:35. > :06:39.safe choice. We know it is competitive.

:06:39. > :06:58.What advantages did it bring? I cannot tell you. Stability?

:06:58. > :07:08.Another way of setting up the car, basically. It is as competitive

:07:08. > :07:13.as... We know we can develop more but we will take time to do it

:07:13. > :07:19.properly. Do you imagine racing it later in the year? Yes, of course.

:07:20. > :07:24.Interesting. They are looking to rate it later in the year. They have

:07:24. > :07:29.done a test with it. They have gathered a lot of data and now they

:07:29. > :07:35.go away and do some number crunching, do they? They moved the

:07:35. > :07:39.front wheels by around ten in -- ten centimetres.

:07:39. > :07:45.That will give the car a better braking stability. You will not

:07:45. > :07:49.transfer so much weight onto the front when braking. That is

:07:49. > :07:54.important on this circuit. It will save the rear tyres a bit. It is not

:07:54. > :08:01.so nervous. Those are the positives. Yesterday they did the same lap time

:08:01. > :08:07.with different wheel bases. I would have left it for the race. It is

:08:07. > :08:09.going to be lap 20 or 30 of the race that the benefit of saving the rear

:08:09. > :08:12.going to be lap 20 or 30 of the race tyres may come to you. They are not

:08:12. > :08:18.giving them much choice. I don't think there is much in it, to be

:08:18. > :08:22.honest. Any circuit we have got coming up

:08:22. > :08:25.where you think the long wheel base would be suited? I don't think so.

:08:25. > :08:31.where you think the long wheel base As the principal said, it was the

:08:31. > :08:37.same as a short wheelbase car. Here, the benefit would be the big

:08:37. > :08:44.braking. The car gets lazier or low speed corners with a longer base.

:08:44. > :08:51.All tracks have copper mines. I don't see the deficits. --

:08:51. > :08:58.compromises. Monza is all about Harare, in many ways. Jennie, you

:08:58. > :09:06.are outside the Garrard. Just waiting for Fernando Alonso's

:09:06. > :09:10.card to be pushed back. They are looking for as little drag as

:09:10. > :09:20.possible. Looking at the rear wing, very small flaps. You can see a very

:09:20. > :09:32.small element. Seven grade steps onto the back. It is different to

:09:32. > :09:36.all the other wings. The thing about downforce, everybody

:09:36. > :09:45.talks about reducing it and Monza, but they are actually reducing the

:09:45. > :09:52.drag. The front wing on the Ferrari has some components stripped of it.

:09:52. > :09:58.They have a seven element main wing assembly. That is to get consistency

:09:58. > :10:05.of downforce. It is part is you need to do, and from eyes is you need to

:10:05. > :10:19.make to get the low drag, to allow the cast to do an excess of 210 mph.

:10:19. > :10:25.-- and compromises. By the way, we are just seeing James

:10:25. > :10:30.Alison. He is here with Harare this weekend. He was technical director

:10:30. > :10:34.with the Lotus. He left quite early this year. -- he is herewith Harare

:10:34. > :10:47.this weekend. He put it on the surface of the

:10:47. > :10:53.wing. It washes the airflow off the wing to other areas of the car. It

:10:53. > :10:58.is a mechanism of understanding where the airflow arrives at the

:10:58. > :11:07.rest of the car. You have got to optimise those parts. You never stop

:11:07. > :11:13.learning. Every day is a school day. You can't do anything about it this

:11:13. > :11:14.weekend, but you might next weekend. Red Bull are always pushing the

:11:14. > :11:18.envelope, even when they are leading Red Bull are always pushing the

:11:18. > :11:23.the championship. Very impressive that they are still looking at every

:11:23. > :11:33.avenue. Sebastian Vettel's car is backing. Good morning, Christian.

:11:33. > :11:40.Both of York cars are out with the special paint a look at the airflow

:11:40. > :11:48.over the car will stop -- both of your cars. What is the thinking

:11:48. > :11:54.there? It is to see how the air is moving

:11:54. > :12:00.around the car. Some changes have been made overnight.

:12:00. > :12:07.Are you still experimenting between the two cars before settling?

:12:07. > :12:14.No, I think they have converged overnight. Most writers seem

:12:14. > :12:18.recently happy. It is a matter of fine tuning this morning. -- most

:12:18. > :12:25.drivers. These are the images that FOM have

:12:25. > :12:30.introduced this weekend. As a team, you will be looking at the

:12:31. > :12:39.temperature of tyres all year long. For us come as viewers, it is fun to

:12:39. > :12:44.see these thermal images. It is a great shot. It shows you some of the

:12:44. > :12:48.stresses the tyres are going through. They are pretty fragile.

:12:48. > :12:51.The difference circuits have through. They are pretty fragile.

:12:51. > :12:55.different loads and characteristics. That is something the teams have

:12:55. > :13:03.been looking at in their own equipment.

:13:03. > :13:09.The difference between the two tyres this weekend, the medium and the

:13:09. > :13:14.hard, yesterday it didn't seem as big a difference as we have seen in

:13:14. > :13:21.other circuits. Presumably, it is not going to be a huge of pit stops

:13:21. > :13:26.tomorrow? The margin between the hard and the soft tyre is not

:13:26. > :13:34.massive. It is not clear what the strategy

:13:34. > :13:38.will be for tomorrow. We will get a better picture as we progress

:13:38. > :13:43.through today. Everybody overnight has been

:13:43. > :13:51.analysing straight line speed. You guys don't seem to be quick in the

:13:51. > :13:58.straight to overtake anyone. I you confident you can get in the front

:13:58. > :14:03.row of the grid? We noticed we work at the back of the speed track

:14:03. > :14:08.yesterday. We have never been particularly good at that. Hopefully

:14:08. > :14:12.we will be better today. Thank you. Hopefully we will get a

:14:12. > :14:16.chance to catch up with you later on as well. Sergio Perez is the first

:14:16. > :14:22.to have established a lap time. Just to remind you of what happened

:14:22. > :14:23.yesterday, Lewis Hamilton headed the first practice session in the

:14:24. > :14:30.morning for Mercedes. He was ahead of Alonso and Rosberg.

:14:30. > :14:33.When it came to the afternoon, though, as we have referred to, it

:14:33. > :14:39.was a Red Bull afternoon. Sebastian though, as we have referred to, it

:14:39. > :14:44.Vettel's time was impressive. Alonso was fifth. Hamilton was six. We are

:14:44. > :14:50.looking at the thermal camera. We are looking at how the tyre

:14:50. > :14:54.temperature changes as he goes through the corners. One of the

:14:54. > :15:04.things that intrigues me is how narrow band the tyre is doing. That

:15:04. > :15:07.things that intrigues me is how inner shoulder is rubbing on the

:15:07. > :15:13.ground. When you turn around this corner, around Curva Parabolica, I

:15:13. > :15:18.was just looking at that shot coming into the pits and that is about 130

:15:18. > :15:23.degrees. It is one tired doing all of that, the right-hand and there is

:15:23. > :15:33.no big spread across the under braking. Not as much as you would

:15:33. > :15:37.expect. And this circuit, lots of right-hand corners and very few left

:15:37. > :15:43.hand. Getting that right-hand tyre warmed up for qualifying, that will

:15:43. > :15:53.be critical. We saw that yesterday when they went out on the softer of

:15:53. > :15:58.those tyres, medium, harder tyres at the moment, and you can see Paul di

:15:58. > :16:02.Resta on-screen, but we did see drivers were able to do a quick lap

:16:02. > :16:06.on their second flying lap so maybe getting tired to come in quickly

:16:06. > :16:11.will be a challenge when it comes to qualifying. When you consider the

:16:11. > :16:17.last corner on the lap, but is actually very important and you have

:16:17. > :16:21.to come off quickly and it is very easy to get understeer and not come

:16:21. > :16:27.off as quickly as you should and then you will lose that time down

:16:27. > :16:29.the straight. You will see a lot of people weaving and doing

:16:30. > :16:39.heartbreaking, and that is what really put energy into the tyres. I

:16:39. > :16:45.did not quite capture that short comment... Braking but lots of

:16:45. > :16:49.energy into the front tyres and weaving also does a little bit but

:16:49. > :16:54.it keeps the temperature into the tyres and does not increase them.

:16:54. > :17:01.Paul di Resta, locking up. You can get in touch on Twitter. Good

:17:01. > :17:08.morning and great to have your comments. That'll is just too far --

:17:08. > :17:13.too far ahead of the stage, says one viewer. He will always be on the

:17:13. > :17:20.podium. We know he is very well placed and Paddy says, anyone else

:17:20. > :17:23.thinks that his dominance would turn people off because he is so

:17:24. > :17:30.unpopular. He is obviously going through a winning patch and some

:17:30. > :17:34.other thermal camera shots. You can see that left front doing all of the

:17:34. > :17:42.work on the turn in and then be right front lights up with Orange,

:17:42. > :17:45.those high-temperature colours. McLaren, celebrating their 50th

:17:45. > :17:51.anniversary and we shall see what happens. The prospect of him doing

:17:51. > :18:01.better. David has commented, we could see F1 McLaren on the podium.

:18:01. > :18:04.That is helpful. A lot of people would like -- would like to see

:18:04. > :18:07.McLaren doing well as it is their 30th anniversary. There was a big

:18:07. > :18:12.McLaren doing well as it is their launch at McLaren celebrating all

:18:12. > :18:19.about history back from 1963 when Bruce McLaren launched the company.

:18:19. > :18:21.A beautiful book published about the highlights and looking at some of

:18:21. > :18:26.those drivers and some amazing pictures. Nice to see those

:18:26. > :18:31.celebrations continuing but it might be tough for them to make a lot of

:18:31. > :18:35.this weekend. Another tweet, if Ferrari tried to too each other for

:18:35. > :18:42.qualifying, will it be a significant benefit? It is just making sure they

:18:42. > :18:50.don't get delayed. You cannot follow anybody through Parabolica, it is

:18:50. > :18:58.too fast, so the main positions are down the main straight past the pits

:18:58. > :19:03.or up the back straight into Variante Ascari. But the driver

:19:03. > :19:05.behind has to get out of your way. I would guess that if they can do that

:19:05. > :19:10.behind has to get out of your way. I on one of those, you will gain two

:19:10. > :19:15.tenths of a second and that is massive around Monza. It only went

:19:15. > :19:21.wrong last at the end because Fernando Alonso suffered a broken

:19:21. > :19:28.rear anti-roll bar. They have been practising this weekend. And later

:19:28. > :19:31.on Friday they did a lot of practice so I would be expecting but Ferrari

:19:31. > :19:37.cars to work together well. There are no other team-mates at their end

:19:37. > :19:45.edit to each other to do that but Ferrari, for sure. What can McLaren

:19:45. > :19:52.achieve this weekend? Jonathan Neale joins us. Let's talk about on the

:19:52. > :19:58.track. Do you feel more competitive this weekend? We have these

:19:58. > :20:04.downforce circuits and the car is working reasonably well. It is

:20:04. > :20:07.working for them and the balance is fine and yesterday we tried

:20:07. > :20:12.different levels and here in Monza, there is a very careful balance

:20:12. > :20:17.between downforce to take you safely through the chicanes and around the

:20:17. > :20:19.high-speed stuff and you don't want to get taken out on those long

:20:19. > :20:25.straights. Yesterday morning we were pretty competitive and yesterday

:20:25. > :20:28.afternoon and took too much downforce from the car and we have

:20:28. > :20:33.reviewed that and gone backwards slightly but we are having problems

:20:33. > :20:36.with the tyres at the moment and the cars are pretty well balanced. We

:20:36. > :20:42.observed that yesterday afternoon, Jenson Button seemed to set a faster

:20:42. > :20:46.time on medium tyres went earlier on, perhaps on the first lap, the

:20:46. > :20:52.other drivers were struggling for the third lap. Has he find some way

:20:52. > :20:57.of warming up those tyres? I would love to give you the secrets but we

:20:57. > :21:02.cannot eat quite as confident as that. There are so many factors

:21:02. > :21:06.through the afternoon in this lovely sunshine and the surface is heating

:21:06. > :21:12.up and Pirelli have been adjusting the tyre pressure and different fuel

:21:12. > :21:16.loads and driving styles make a difference so the real answer is we

:21:16. > :21:18.have no problem warming them up, but whether we can get those laps out of

:21:19. > :21:22.them this afternoon against everybody else... How important is

:21:22. > :21:26.the podium this weekend because we everybody else... How important is

:21:26. > :21:35.are Staring down the barrel of no podiums throughout the whole season?

:21:35. > :21:39.Every time we come to a race, with Formula one, it is a very tough

:21:39. > :21:44.competition and we have set out our stall to win every time and that

:21:44. > :21:48.will be challenging given the season that we have had but this is not the

:21:48. > :21:52.first time. If you look at those 182 race wins over 52 years, which is

:21:52. > :21:58.amazing, bruising things I'd with Ferrari, but when you look at that

:21:58. > :22:00.board and what happens over a period, there are seasons when

:22:00. > :22:03.board and what happens over a things don't quite go according to

:22:03. > :22:08.plan and if you talk to any business leader, he will tell you that when

:22:08. > :22:11.you are in the sweet spot, you prepare for the next thing that will

:22:11. > :22:15.hit you and the strength is how we can take the learning from the

:22:15. > :22:21.season and bounce back. You have had a podium in every season for the

:22:21. > :22:26.last 33 years? That would be fantastic and you have to earn the

:22:26. > :22:31.right to do that. Good luck. If you look back at 1995, they were lacking

:22:31. > :22:36.the podium all the way through until Monza and then Mika Hakkinen got

:22:36. > :22:41.their very first that season. Little use of that escape road, some people

:22:41. > :22:43.struggling to get that balance just right? Getting their braking balance

:22:43. > :22:51.but also they are braking for this right? Getting their braking balance

:22:51. > :22:56.chicane at 135 metres from the corner and you take 150 mph from

:22:56. > :23:03.that speed so you get that wrong by one metre and you must go straight

:23:03. > :23:07.on. You have this slalom of barriers in every corner is just a little

:23:07. > :23:12.different and some areas up to the trees, Variante Ascari, it is quite

:23:12. > :23:18.different to every corner is a new challenge and it is not repetitive.

:23:18. > :23:23.John Eric Vergne, Toro Rosso, the other a Italian team on the home

:23:23. > :23:29.soil and he was fastest at the moment so himself, Gutierrez, Paul

:23:29. > :23:35.di Resta in fifth place. Pastor Maldonado, a head of Adrian Sutil

:23:35. > :23:49.and Giedo van der Garde. These times are not fully relevant yet. Some

:23:49. > :23:53.sliding around from Kimi Raikkonen. 25.5 is pretty impressive for him

:23:53. > :23:56.this early on. Yes, the fuel load makes the difference and we will

:23:56. > :24:00.have to wait and see what he should be encouraged. Kimi Raikkonen, only

:24:00. > :24:04.a fraction faster and he was right be encouraged. Kimi Raikkonen, only

:24:04. > :24:06.up there, yesterday. Third fastest. That was a very good lap by the

:24:06. > :24:10.Frenchman. One point ahead of That was a very good lap by the

:24:10. > :24:15.team-mates in the Championship although we know that his team-mate

:24:15. > :24:19.is going to Red Bull for next year. He did at school Ricciardo, but as

:24:19. > :24:25.we know, he has been awed at red role, but very impressive test at

:24:25. > :24:36.Silverstone I'm sure was a key part of that. He is further down the

:24:36. > :24:40.order but we have some people who have not set any lap time because it

:24:40. > :24:44.is early and this is a 60 minute session as opposed to 90 minutes on

:24:44. > :24:49.Friday so it does disappear quickly and in that final 20 minutes we will

:24:49. > :24:52.see drivers switching on those softer tyres and going for a

:24:52. > :25:02.qualifying run which is important for the drivers. Because the margins

:25:02. > :25:05.are just so tiny? Yes, and it is how we can treat that one would love to

:25:05. > :25:08.get the best out of those tyres when you start those qualifying laps and

:25:08. > :25:11.that is what they will be approaching. Jonathan said they had

:25:11. > :25:14.that is what they will be no problems with warm-ups and no

:25:14. > :25:20.team would tell you that because it is very difficult here. The tyres

:25:20. > :25:24.cooldown, as we can see from those thermal imaging cameras, down the

:25:24. > :25:26.straight, so you have to get a lot of temperature into those tyres for

:25:26. > :25:30.when you really wanted for braking of temperature into those tyres for

:25:30. > :25:32.up the first chicane and for traction so it is a very critical

:25:32. > :25:42.part of getting the best out of the traction so it is a very critical

:25:42. > :25:47.new set of tyres. TEAM RADIO: the rear tyres, especially through one

:25:47. > :25:53.and two. Some explanation of those rear tyres going. Paul di Resta has

:25:54. > :26:04.had this amazing sequence. Five bull positions in total. Will he have a

:26:04. > :26:08.car that will allow him to keep that pole position run going? From

:26:08. > :26:15.yesterday and today, Sebastian Vettel is top of the charts. The Red

:26:16. > :26:20.yesterday and today, Sebastian Bull cars look very strong but Lewis

:26:20. > :26:25.Hamilton on a new set of tyres in qualifying, do not underestimate

:26:25. > :26:28.what he can achieve. He is phenomenal and he took pole position

:26:28. > :26:36.last year and went on to take victory. Felipe Massa, Ferrari

:26:36. > :26:41.driver, he was fined yesterday. The team was fined $10,000 because they

:26:41. > :26:46.find that when he went to the end of the Petro, he locked up going across

:26:46. > :26:52.the line because he saw the red light going on and Sebastian Vettel

:26:52. > :26:59.is on a very quick lap... We shall keep an eye on that. There was that

:26:59. > :27:02.fine because it was deemed that he should not have been released from

:27:02. > :27:11.the garage when the chequered flag was about to come out. I think you

:27:11. > :27:22.just cared -- he just said, the car is very bad on the last corner. He

:27:22. > :27:38.admitted macro 24.4 yesterday -- he did 1: 24.4. Yesterday. That lap, he

:27:38. > :27:44.did and the fastest is Daniel Ricciardo at 340. 336 is in touch so

:27:44. > :27:47.with some aerodynamic trimming that Christian one was telling us about,

:27:47. > :27:53.but is not far away, pretty competitive. Grosjean, Hamilton, in

:27:53. > :27:58.competition with Sebastian Vettel, they are in touch with the top

:27:58. > :28:08.speeds. Once again, Red Bull, first and second. Never had a particularly

:28:08. > :28:14.good record at Monza, his best qualifying performance, Mark Webber,

:28:14. > :28:19.was third, but that range so much. Lewis Hamilton, again, always that

:28:19. > :28:25.second chicane. He has been doing this a lot today. He is

:28:25. > :28:31.experimenting with his threshold of braking into that and he just

:28:31. > :28:35.decides to bailout. We talked on Thursday night and he said he still

:28:35. > :28:39.doesn't have the confidence with his brakes and he locks up his right

:28:39. > :28:44.doesn't have the confidence with his front and there is a time when you

:28:44. > :28:48.must decide either abort or drive. He will try to abort early because

:28:48. > :28:52.the last thing is to put a huge flat spot on his tyres because if that

:28:52. > :28:59.was qualifying or the race, he would have gone round the corner. At the

:28:59. > :29:03.moment, take the easy way. On board, it looked like an adjustment on the

:29:03. > :29:08.brake balance just before going in. And then he readjusted so here still

:29:08. > :29:13.experimenting a little bit to try to find that sweet spot and that often

:29:13. > :29:21.changes for each corner? It does here. It is one of those things

:29:21. > :29:27.because of this harvesting of KERS, trying to charge that up. That brake

:29:27. > :29:32.balance is very important. And around here, with these quick

:29:32. > :29:36.braking stops, he tries to brake quite rightly so there is not much

:29:36. > :29:41.charge on the next corner. The brake balance will be different on each

:29:41. > :29:46.corner and also because of those trees. There is shadow and the

:29:46. > :29:51.temperature is different but also those surfaces because it is

:29:51. > :30:03.different. Alan will join us. You have done plenty of laps. Talk to us

:30:03. > :30:08.about working here. It is such a factor? It is very difficult because

:30:08. > :30:13.each area is critical. And they are slightly bumpy and as Gary said,

:30:13. > :30:17.those trees and the shadows, that comes into things but right now,

:30:17. > :30:20.everybody will try to get that last little part out of it and they will

:30:20. > :30:24.be braking as little as possible but if you do lock up with these escape

:30:24. > :30:28.routes, it is better to come off and run through so we have seen that

:30:28. > :30:33.yesterday but Lewis Hamilton definitely through the course of

:30:33. > :30:34.this works very hard to maximise his points and he executes in

:30:34. > :30:41.qualifying. Especially, he will be points and he executes in

:30:41. > :30:45.working on his driving to find those limits. Might you really be playing

:30:45. > :30:56.with the brake balance on this track? I play with the balance a lot

:30:56. > :31:00.on corners. You have got the time and opportunity to adjust it and

:31:00. > :31:03.make sure it is perfect for each individual one. The braking areas

:31:03. > :31:12.look the same but they are different. Thank you for that.

:31:12. > :31:19.BEN EDWARDS: Just watching Alonso coming out of the corner. Ferrari

:31:19. > :31:26.are working on a bit of slipstreaming here. As we saw last

:31:26. > :31:31.year, it looks like we are going to see it. They are close together at

:31:31. > :31:41.the beginning of the lap. GARY ANDERSON: That is not a problem.

:31:41. > :31:59.I think you have to see Felipe Massa moving out of the way. Two Straits,

:31:59. > :32:03.Fernando got there. Is this something you have played with in

:32:03. > :32:10.the past? Certainly at Le Monde 's you have got long straights you can

:32:10. > :32:16.take advantage of. In qualifying, I have always found I lost out. You

:32:16. > :32:21.are focusing so hard and making sure to get it correct that you missed

:32:21. > :32:27.other things. I have always found it easier to concentrate on yourself

:32:27. > :32:30.and don't worry about anybody else. Ferrari have tried this in previous

:32:30. > :32:37.years and they keep coming back to it. It shows how much effort they

:32:37. > :32:43.have to put into this. An interesting comment from

:32:43. > :32:48.Twitter. Matt has asked, do you think Felipe Massa's performance

:32:48. > :32:53.this weekend will dictate whether he gets to drive next season?

:32:54. > :32:59.I don't think the performance from one track to justify any decision

:32:59. > :33:05.for the whole season. You have to look at it as an average. You have

:33:05. > :33:11.to look at the back-up he gives to Alonso. It is not one race, to be

:33:12. > :33:16.honest. Thanks for your question, Matt. We

:33:16. > :33:22.have a few more coming in. What is the weather forecast? There's a

:33:22. > :33:27.possibility of showers. We will keep an eye on that. Let's go down to the

:33:27. > :33:34.pits. Tom, some information on Rosberg?

:33:34. > :33:39.Nothing other than he is out of the car! Mercedes don't know the

:33:39. > :33:43.problem, either. They don't know if it is a sensor problem or a real

:33:43. > :33:51.problem. The flaw is coming off the car.

:33:51. > :33:59.We will keep an eye on that. Jennie, what have you got? JENNIE GOW: I am

:33:59. > :34:05.just looking into the Lotus. Kimi Raikkonen, they have been tweaking

:34:05. > :34:11.his suspension. He is not happy with the way the car is failing in the

:34:11. > :34:23.turns. They are saying that on the straight committee is happy. -- on

:34:23. > :34:34.the straight, he is happy. The two Ferraris are happiest.

:34:34. > :34:44.As you said earlier, how many other teams have team-mates who would work

:34:44. > :34:52.so corporative league? -- co-operatively?

:34:52. > :35:02.Whenever two team-mates are working well in this circuit... Alonso, when

:35:02. > :35:10.he was towed by Felipe Massa, and then going back to Sebastian Vettel,

:35:10. > :35:14.he did to 336 on his own. They are running some downforce. They are

:35:14. > :35:21.normally pretty quick on the straight.

:35:21. > :35:28.He is the former boss of Benetton and Renault. He is still involved as

:35:28. > :35:33.a driver manager. Keeping an eye on what is going on here at Monza. Our

:35:33. > :35:37.Ferrari going to pull something out of the bag? At the moment it is Red

:35:37. > :35:47.Bull one Micro, two. That pushes weather down to third.

:35:47. > :36:07.-- Mark Webber. Raikkonen is currently sixth. Jenson

:36:07. > :36:19.Button is seventh. Felipe Massa is only ten. Grosjean is 11th.

:36:19. > :36:23.Hulkenberg had all kinds of problems yesterday. The Mexican driver at

:36:23. > :36:30.Sauber is doing a good job this weekend. Still to score any points

:36:30. > :36:40.in Formula One. What is happening at the lower end? Perez is 13th. Van

:36:40. > :36:51.der Garde is the fastest of the young teams' drivers.

:36:51. > :36:54.Just watching Paul di Resta having a big lock up here. I would like to

:36:54. > :36:58.Just watching Paul di Resta having a see the thermal camera on that one.

:36:58. > :37:04.I think there would be a red glow. You asked for it.

:37:05. > :37:14.The flat spot went white. That must You asked for it.

:37:14. > :37:18.be up to 200 degrees. That higher will definitely have a straining

:37:18. > :37:29.point. -- that tyre. He is here to see how things go

:37:29. > :37:37.today. He always turns up fork will find here at Monza. Not always here

:37:37. > :37:38.for the race, though. -- he always turns up for qualifying here at

:37:38. > :37:44.Monza. He joined in the 1970s in the era of

:37:44. > :38:04.Niki Lauda. How is your Italian, Gary? Not

:38:04. > :38:12.great. I think he was asking for some sugar in his coffee.

:38:12. > :38:18.Ferrari need to deliver something special. He is up on the split

:38:18. > :38:23.times. Let's see whether he is able to complete this lap. Felipe Massa

:38:23. > :38:32.is up ahead. I don't know if he can get much of a toe from him or not.

:38:32. > :38:38.He has backed off. That has rather messed up by Alonzo's attempts. It

:38:38. > :38:43.is Force India. It is Paul di Resta. He is into the barrier on the

:38:43. > :38:49.outside of the tyre barrier. Just about the worst time to come off. It

:38:49. > :38:55.may just be front wing damage. The front suspension looks OK.

:38:55. > :39:00.Normally you slow down by a reasonable amount by the time you

:39:00. > :39:06.get to them. It is a very fast corner. You have to get off the

:39:06. > :39:11.throttle when it is blind. You can't see out of it. He went straight on,

:39:11. > :39:16.basically. Strange to see it so early on in the corner. Let's look

:39:16. > :39:25.at the Flow-Viz. Something broke, he said.

:39:25. > :39:32.The rear and has snapped. It looks OK. A bit over steel the entry, then

:39:32. > :39:42.he corrected it, and by that time you have missed a line will stop --

:39:42. > :39:47.oversteer on the entry. If you can shoot in for our

:39:47. > :39:49.qualifying programme on BBC One, we had a great feature with Paul di

:39:49. > :40:01.Resta. He is looking to see what has gone

:40:01. > :40:06.on. Alonso missed out on what could have been a lap to go quickest. He

:40:06. > :40:11.was up on the split times. It was a close run thing. He is only just off

:40:11. > :40:19.of Vettel at the moment. It could be a close run thing when they put the

:40:19. > :40:26.softer tyre on. As di Resta's car is taken away, there is the thermal

:40:26. > :40:30.camera. They may have changed the degree of heat on that one now.

:40:30. > :40:37.Suddenly all the colours are lighting up even though it is not

:40:37. > :40:45.going around. When he was coming off, the brakes

:40:45. > :40:52.will have been around 900 degrees. The heat has to dissipate somehow.

:40:52. > :40:55.It goes into the mass around it. When they come into the pits, the

:40:55. > :41:14.brake cooling machines always go to the cars. He didn't hit anything.

:41:14. > :41:19.It doesn't look as though the homework has done them good at the

:41:19. > :41:24.moment. Obviously, we have to wait and see before the session

:41:24. > :41:28.finishes. Vettel is on a reasonable lap.

:41:28. > :41:39.The kids and I on the second checkpoint. -- he keeps an eye. The

:41:39. > :41:42.car is not moving around at all, just going forward and maintaining

:41:42. > :41:50.momentum. That is what this track is about. You can see the twitch as the

:41:50. > :41:59.card turns in. Stable on the way out. Let's see what the lap time is.

:41:59. > :42:07.It is an improvement by two tenths of a second. He is only just off

:42:07. > :42:15.what he did on the softer tyre yesterday. Everybody is waiting for

:42:15. > :42:21.the last 15 minutes or so. Rosberg is looking at the screen. He has got

:42:21. > :42:29.a problem at the moment. It is going to be the look -- last ten minutes

:42:29. > :42:37.before we see everybody ringing the cars' necks. It is not as hot as it

:42:37. > :42:44.is going to be in qualifying but it is coming up in there.

:42:44. > :42:48.You can see the oscillation through the front wing. The assembly has to

:42:48. > :42:53.be stiffer than it was. There are specific tests to make sure they are

:42:53. > :43:00.not bending backwards. Last year there was one test, on

:43:00. > :43:05.each side of the wing. Now there are two to make sure the wing doesn't

:43:05. > :43:16.twist. Everything on the racing car still moves. The test is to make

:43:16. > :43:20.sure it stays there within regulation controls. It is up to

:43:20. > :43:24.everybody to maximise the deflection in whatever manner you want. Adrian

:43:24. > :43:30.Sutil, we had a spin from him when we last saw him. He used a lot of

:43:30. > :43:33.road on the way out. The car is not giving him at

:43:33. > :43:44.stability. Let's watch into the corner where di Resta went off that

:43:44. > :43:52.looked OK. -- let's watch him into the corner where di Resta went off.

:43:52. > :43:58.That looked OK. You're never sure what the car is

:43:58. > :44:05.going to do next. This is a track where he has had his

:44:05. > :44:16.best ever career performances. It doesn't look as though they are

:44:16. > :44:20.going to be in position this time. It has been a difficult season for

:44:21. > :44:23.Williams. They are desperate to score more points. Let's catch

:44:23. > :44:34.Williams. They are desperate to what is going on. The DRS is briefly

:44:34. > :44:39.disabled. Maldonado, I think backed on that lap. He did a good lap

:44:39. > :44:52.earlier on. It looks as though Williams have

:44:52. > :44:57.made some progress overnight. That lower downforce set up, it can

:44:57. > :45:03.suit some cars. One of Williams' biggest problems has been the

:45:03. > :45:08.stability of the rear of the car. One to change the configuration, as

:45:08. > :45:21.you have for Monza, Italy eliminated parts that are not working

:45:21. > :45:29.correctly. And Sean Rigg Ferran does continue. Photographers trying to

:45:29. > :45:38.snap an image of those cars travelling. -- Jean-Eric Vergne.

:45:38. > :45:44.Both Toro Rosso cars, 340 kilometres an hour. And that is at the end of

:45:44. > :45:54.that speed trap. Back to Sebastian Vettel. 334 and 336. If you look at

:45:54. > :45:59.that speed trap. Back to Sebastian that competition, Kimi Raikkonen,

:45:59. > :46:03.337. They have trimmed their car more and they are looking at being

:46:03. > :46:08.quicker on those straights so they can overtake that Middlefield so

:46:08. > :46:11.everybody has their own solution but you would need more downforce to

:46:11. > :46:19.look after those tyres. Mark Webber, third fastest once again. He

:46:19. > :46:26.is quickest at this stage and another good luck. Still not harder

:46:26. > :46:32.compound. He has done ten laps on these and he is on the pace that he

:46:32. > :46:34.said yesterday on the medium tyres. Gary wondered if you could find out

:46:34. > :46:39.any more about the problems with Gary wondered if you could find out

:46:39. > :46:43.Nico Rosberg. I have been trying and I am at the front of his pit garage

:46:43. > :46:48.and they are taking off the gearbox and they say that the hydraulic

:46:48. > :46:53.temperatures are too high and they have to have a look but the gearbox

:46:53. > :46:59.is coming off and with 20 minutes left, it is unlikely that he will

:46:59. > :47:05.come out again. He has left the garage so not a very good start to

:47:05. > :47:12.his day. I did mention that we had not seen him. What did you see on

:47:12. > :47:17.the tyres with Sergio Perez? There was some rubber missing. It could

:47:17. > :47:25.come easily from a lock up and sometimes it is further in. That

:47:25. > :47:31.gets the hottest but that was right in the middle. I don't know what

:47:31. > :47:36.size it was, there is no marking around the outside so just a little

:47:36. > :47:44.bit of trade coming. That is a little concerning and Jenny, it has

:47:44. > :47:47.been trying for Force India with Paul di Resta coming off and Adrian

:47:47. > :47:55.Sutil spinning. What is the mood like? One side of the garage is busy

:47:55. > :47:59.and the other is quiet. Andrew Green, technical director, is stood

:48:00. > :48:05.at the back of the garage and he is looking at the rear left of Adrian

:48:05. > :48:12.Sutil 's car, it looks like one of those little beer flaps has been

:48:12. > :48:18.broken. -- rear flaps. I have spoken to the scene about Paul di Resta and

:48:18. > :48:19.they don't know any more, it looks like his car lost control and he

:48:19. > :48:23.they don't know any more, it looks said that something had look. They

:48:23. > :48:31.are trying to find out what had happened. -- something had broken.

:48:31. > :48:36.As we know, the gap in qualifying is pretty tight? They will be working

:48:36. > :48:42.as quickly as they can as soon as they get that car back in. And for

:48:42. > :48:47.both cars to have a problem at the same time, they cannot divert any of

:48:47. > :48:53.the workflow to the other car. No lunch brake for the Force India

:48:53. > :48:58.team! They will be itching to get that car back! Mark Webber, does he

:48:58. > :49:05.get down to the pace of Sebastian Vettel? No, but that was his best so

:49:05. > :49:10.far. Sebastian Vettel still has that margin. Further down, Fernando

:49:10. > :49:17.Alonso, and out-lap from Jenson Button still showing up well. --

:49:17. > :49:20.that lap. That is a lovely shot of the banking at Monza. It was used

:49:20. > :49:27.that lap. That is a lovely shot of for times when Italian grand prix

:49:27. > :49:37.but it just proved too much to be a destroyer of cars. In America I have

:49:37. > :49:47.been on tracks like this. TEAM RADIO: I have lost the front grip.

:49:47. > :49:53.Understood. If you look at the loads around the normal track, the force

:49:53. > :49:59.is huge. And when you get that initial compression at the bottom of

:49:59. > :50:04.the death, that is one G vertically. And the weight of the car is 700

:50:04. > :50:14.kilograms. It is very easy to brake stuff. They stopped using banking in

:50:14. > :50:15.the early 1960s and they have reverted to this track although it

:50:15. > :50:20.did not have any chicanes through reverted to this track although it

:50:20. > :50:24.the mid-60s. They came in for the early 70s. Apart from that, just

:50:24. > :50:33.little detail changes over the years. Hulkenberg back in, 11th

:50:33. > :50:36.fastest and Gutierrez is 14th. Sauber might be making some progress

:50:36. > :50:41.this weekend. Further down, Charles Pic is fastest of the younger

:50:41. > :50:46.drivers, both Caterham cars virtually together and Rosberg has

:50:46. > :50:52.not done any representative time. The gearbox has come off the back of

:50:52. > :50:55.the car so that is valuable time last and at the bottom end, we have

:50:55. > :51:01.the car so that is valuable time got children and Jules Bianchi. Max

:51:01. > :51:07.Chilton will be pleased about that. -- Chilton. That will boost his

:51:07. > :51:10.confidence. If you look at those times for Caterham and Mauritius.

:51:10. > :51:18.confidence. If you look at those They are competing. Van der Garde,

:51:18. > :51:26.Max Chilton, 27.8. Very close for that little group. It is encouraging

:51:26. > :51:32.because they don't have the package that Caterham has that Renault

:51:32. > :51:39.engine. They have got cars worth. And a one-year-old Red Bull

:51:39. > :52:00.gearbox. Yes, they should be proud of that. -- Cosworth. Everybody is

:52:00. > :52:05.getting ready for a qualifying similar issue. That is a very good

:52:05. > :52:08.shot that front wing. The area in front of the front tyre is a

:52:08. > :52:13.critical because in reality, the front tyre is the thing that moves

:52:13. > :52:18.and you have steering lock and lose bid, about 10 degrees of steering

:52:18. > :52:24.lock and that he's -- at high speed, three degrees or four degrees. That

:52:24. > :52:29.is always different on every corner. What I criticise with McLaren is I

:52:29. > :52:31.is always different on every corner. believe the concept and the way they

:52:31. > :52:35.have developed their car this year is a very good baggage but I believe

:52:35. > :52:42.the front wing is still not as consistent flowing as a driver needs

:52:42. > :52:48.to get confidence in his car. Lovely shot that grandstand and you were

:52:48. > :52:52.almost assaulted by a Scottish van who was so excited to meet you but

:52:52. > :52:59.at Monza, you have visitors from all over the world? I thought the guy

:52:59. > :53:04.was out of his head! But he wasn't, he was just going mad. You have got

:53:04. > :53:10.fancier, no matter where they come from and they are into this Italian

:53:10. > :53:13.enthusiasm and up the gate, they love it and the amount of English,

:53:13. > :53:19.British people that we have met over this weekend, it is amazing how

:53:19. > :53:26.many. Andy support for Formula one is absolutely fantastic. We will see

:53:27. > :53:36.flags from all over the world. Confirmation of those figures.

:53:36. > :53:43.Interestingly, just a little bit behind Alonso. Ferrari have not gone

:53:43. > :53:47.for a total straight-line speed. No, and Red Bull need to be there, with

:53:47. > :53:53.their competitors. And competitors are Lotus and Ferrari and Mercedes

:53:53. > :53:56.and they have to try to stay in that window. They have got a fairly

:53:56. > :54:02.reasonable copper mines. Not at the bottom, in the middle. They have

:54:02. > :54:10.that opportunity. Fans from all over the world. Mark Webber will be

:54:10. > :54:15.leaving and Daniel Ricciardo coming in. There have only been three

:54:15. > :54:24.Australians in F1 before Daniel Ricciardo. And two world champions.

:54:24. > :54:27.Mark never quite won the world Championship and Christian Horner is

:54:27. > :54:31.back on the pit wall. Nice and peaceful there. Mark never quite

:54:31. > :54:37.managed to win the world Championship but he came close. If

:54:37. > :54:43.you had to summarise the strengths of Mark Webber, how would you do

:54:43. > :54:48.that? He is a very quick driver and he has got great determination and

:54:48. > :54:52.if you look at that career from juniors coming over from Australia

:54:52. > :54:58.at 17 years old with absolutely nothing and having to fight through

:54:58. > :55:00.the junior ranks and then he took that unorthodox route through sports

:55:00. > :55:05.the junior ranks and then he took cars and he fought his way into F1

:55:05. > :55:12.and he is a very determined character. There is a little bit of

:55:13. > :55:17.difference between himself and Sebastian. There does seem to be

:55:17. > :55:22.that gap that we have seen in previous years. Where does Sebastian

:55:22. > :55:28.game that time? Where is his advantage? Nowhere particular, just

:55:28. > :55:32.a little bit everywhere. If you look at that first sector, one tenth

:55:32. > :55:39.between them and in the second, two tenths. And in the third, three

:55:39. > :55:46.tenths. It is a little bit everywhere. Sebastian seems to have

:55:46. > :55:52.the ability every weekend to be absolutely getting those top notes.

:55:52. > :55:55.Do they set the cars up identical in or do they have their own driving

:55:55. > :56:01.styles that means something different? Slightly different but

:56:01. > :56:06.not radically. They can converge quite often so overnight, they

:56:06. > :56:12.converge to a fairly similar setup. Mark drives very classically and

:56:12. > :56:22.Sebastian rotates more, he likes a looser rear end, like a motorbike.

:56:22. > :56:26.That is just individual taste. Just looking at those straight-line

:56:26. > :56:33.speeds, we end up in the middle of the sheet and are you happy with

:56:33. > :56:44.that? We are looking OK. Hamilton, 3.37, Fernando Alonso 3.36. We are

:56:44. > :56:49.there or thereabouts. Quickly explain what is happening after this

:56:49. > :56:55.little pause. This is a crucial phase? We are about to see this

:56:56. > :57:00.flurry of activity as everybody puts on those softer tyres and Sebastian

:57:00. > :57:07.is about to leave the pit lane and this is really qualifying

:57:07. > :57:11.preparation. Try to get that lap in. Thank you and let's hope it goes

:57:11. > :57:25.well and hopefully we shall talk to you later? Thank you. Sebastian

:57:25. > :57:34.Vettel, as we have heard... TEAM RADIO: the track is clear. Recovery.

:57:34. > :57:40.Just a little mix-up in messages. Nico Rosberg complaining about his

:57:40. > :57:44.clutch. Very clear air. Hopefully if everything is OK with his car, he

:57:44. > :57:49.will go onto that lap. Very aggressive looking out-lap. And some

:57:49. > :57:55.weaving to get those tyres working. Yes, coming down, you have that

:57:55. > :58:02.temperature in the cars and you must keep that. You can see those tyres

:58:02. > :58:04.cooling down. Doing that weaving up to the Parabolica is at least

:58:04. > :58:10.keeping some temperature in those tyres. It does not do much to heed

:58:10. > :58:14.the tyres up any more. An important weekend for Jules Bianchi, Max

:58:14. > :58:22.Chilton has been slightly ahead but of course, he seems to be a Ferrari

:58:22. > :58:33.development driver. TEAM RADIO: work hard on this front tyres. -- those

:58:33. > :58:40.front tyres. They will put the brake balance to the front. So on the

:58:40. > :58:44.out-lap, he will do all about winding and they will be getting

:58:44. > :58:50.very hot. And on the way up to Parabolica, they will cool down

:58:50. > :58:54.again. This typical view, they are tripping over each other, waiting

:58:54. > :59:00.for six minutes and they will have this line of London buses. All

:59:00. > :59:01.arriving at once. That is the fault of the team and not the drivers.

:59:01. > :59:03.arriving at once. That is the fault That really annoys me! Kimi

:59:03. > :59:10.Raikkonen, clear air. Not too many That really annoys me! Kimi

:59:10. > :59:20.other cars around him and in that shot is both Ferrari car is with

:59:20. > :59:28.each other. I am not sure if he is on a timed lap? The understeer was

:59:28. > :59:31.just horrendous. If you can get those tyres to work on the first

:59:31. > :59:37.flying lap, that will be very interesting. Sebastian Vettel, one

:59:37. > :59:39.that split, not a huge difference between hard and medium yesterday.

:59:39. > :59:50.that split, not a huge difference Let us see what that difference will

:59:50. > :59:56.be this time. 1:24. That is tidy. And he is coming towards the second

:59:56. > :59:59.track when. It is down to that first section, you must accept the fact

:00:00. > :00:05.that you are losing speed and he is up. You will lose speed on Main

:00:05. > :00:08.straight because tyres have got more grip and the speed goes away and the

:00:08. > :00:12.tyres are not as good through Parabolica. Don't panic because the

:00:12. > :00:19.first section is not as good as it should be. This should be the

:00:19. > :00:27.fastest lap of the session so far. Sebastian Vettel comes out of the

:00:27. > :00:32.final turn. He has the five disc middle sector of anybody. --

:00:32. > :00:43.fastest. That is no quicker than yesterday. I wonder if he will do a

:00:43. > :00:48.slow lap and then another. On board here with Mark Webber. He is

:00:48. > :01:01.improving his own time. But he is not quicker than Vettel in either of

:01:01. > :01:10.the first two sectors. He can't seem to close the gap on

:01:10. > :01:19.his team-mate. Vettel gained a 10th on his medium

:01:19. > :01:24.tyre lap. It is a situation where you learn. You have only got one hit

:01:24. > :01:30.at it. You want to learn about it. If you drive it too hard, you have

:01:30. > :01:42.made a mistake. Raikkonen goes fifth in the Lotus.

:01:42. > :01:51.Ricciardo has gone sixth fastest. Hamilton, not particularly quick.

:01:51. > :02:02.He found three tenths in that lap. I don't think the Red Bull... Vettel

:02:02. > :02:05.has done a slow lap now. Mercedes are losing out on

:02:05. > :02:10.information because Rosberg is unable to take part with his car

:02:10. > :02:11.split in half. They are losing valuable knowledge and experience

:02:11. > :02:23.here. This is a slow lap at the moment. He

:02:23. > :02:27.may stay out there. One or two drivers might do another lap and see

:02:27. > :02:32.if they get a bit more speed. He crosses the line. That was five or

:02:32. > :02:38.six seconds off the pace of a quick lap.

:02:38. > :02:46.It lets the tyres balance. You have to use the brakes hard, save the

:02:46. > :02:51.tyres. This second lab is definitely the one to be on. Somebody is going

:02:51. > :02:59.to have to think about this. I have got a tweet to bring you later. We

:02:59. > :03:07.will bring new that later. We will wait for that!

:03:07. > :03:13.Vettel has gone fastest. For once, you can see the back of the Red Bull

:03:13. > :03:20.sliding. But it slide so dutifully that there was no way he had to lift

:03:20. > :03:28.off the throttle. -- but it slides so beautifully. It is the second

:03:28. > :03:31.time lap on medium tyres that seems to be the one. 24.3 committee is

:03:31. > :03:38.quicker a game. -- 24.3, he is to be the one. 24.3 committee is

:03:38. > :03:49.quicker again. The tyre is definitely better on

:03:49. > :03:57.that first lap. But the car doesn't have the balance.

:03:57. > :04:04.Mark Webber in proves again, but he is still third. -- improves.

:04:04. > :04:14.Grosjean complaining of no grip, he says. He sounds excited, but not in

:04:14. > :04:24.a good way. Maldonado has done another fine lap. Just watching to

:04:24. > :04:33.see what Daniel Ricciardo can do. What is intriguing is there are cars

:04:33. > :04:40.down to 11th from fifth who have done a 1.25 something. The different

:04:40. > :04:50.is miniscule. Hamilton has now gone forth. That is a better effort for

:04:50. > :04:55.Mercedes. It is still about four tenths off of what Sebastian Vettel

:04:55. > :05:00.is doing. Around here, you are 70% on for

:05:00. > :05:11.throttle. The drive is a passenger for 70% of this lap. -- the driver.

:05:11. > :05:19.So much is down to the package of engine and how much the car -- drag

:05:19. > :05:23.the car is producing. It is well balanced between the manufacturer is

:05:23. > :05:30.in terms of performance here. Let's see what Sutil does. They are

:05:30. > :05:38.struggling a bit. Di Resta is out of the rest of this session. Force

:05:39. > :05:46.India are struggling here. Bianchi has gone ahead of Max Chilton, only

:05:46. > :05:55.just. Last is Rosberg, because he wasn't able to come back out.

:05:55. > :06:04.Ricciardo, any improvement? That was a slight improvement in time. Perez

:06:04. > :06:08.has dropped up to fifth. Sergio Perez, he got it on the

:06:08. > :06:19.second lap. He was slower than Vettel. This circuit should suit

:06:19. > :06:27.them. They are not putting the aerodynamics to a critical point.

:06:27. > :06:34.I think there are some interesting signals in those times. OK, Vettel

:06:34. > :06:43.is the dominant force. But Ferrari might use tanning methods to beat

:06:43. > :06:44.him. -- tow ring. McLaren could be on for getting both cars in the top

:06:44. > :06:54.ten. Perez loves this track. He had on for getting both cars in the top

:06:54. > :07:00.a great race here last season. The anionic I only Kolarov sos. That is

:07:00. > :07:07.encouraging. -- wrote keep an eye on the Toro Rossos.

:07:07. > :07:17.Christian, give us a summary from what you have seen. Who do you see

:07:17. > :07:25.as being your closest rivals? Fernando looks pretty quick.

:07:25. > :07:33.Hamilton has shown his hand. We have seen what a strong qualifying car

:07:33. > :07:43.they have. It is the usual suspects. Is there any thought among your

:07:43. > :07:55.drivers about helping with the tow? Unlikely! Fair enough. Let's get

:07:56. > :08:00.down to the pits with Tom Clarkson. Your thoughts after that practice

:08:01. > :08:09.session? Obviously disappointed to lose Rosberg's car. We seem to have

:08:09. > :08:12.a hydraulic problem. We're just investigating it. The rest do not

:08:12. > :08:23.a hydraulic problem. We're just seem too bad.

:08:23. > :08:35.We are going to have a debrief now. Vettel looks a bit special out

:08:35. > :08:39.there. We are in the group behind. Hamilton wasn't complaining about

:08:39. > :08:45.anything serious. The lack of data from Rosberg's car, how much is it

:08:45. > :08:51.going to affect the team as a whole?

:08:51. > :08:58.It is not great. Getting the tyres in around here is not easy. You

:08:58. > :09:02.really need practice. We may have to think about his programme for

:09:02. > :09:07.qualifying to make sure we get into Q3.

:09:07. > :09:13.Will it be possible to get that time out of the first lap?

:09:14. > :09:29.It is close, actually, whether it is first, second or third lap.

:09:29. > :09:33.With the prime, it is a longer run. It can be closed between first and

:09:33. > :09:42.second. Good luck this afternoon. BEN

:09:42. > :09:47.EDWARDS: McLaren have a chance of getting into the mix. We will keep

:09:47. > :09:53.an eye on Williams, who seem to have made some progress over the course

:09:53. > :09:59.of the evening. Qualifying is going to be one mighty battle. We are

:09:59. > :10:04.looking forward to it. JENNIE GOW: Another ominous performance from

:10:04. > :10:13.Vettel. He was able to hug the curb. The

:10:13. > :10:19.other cars had to pull the car back before the straight. It did look

:10:19. > :10:25.like it was on rails. It looked easy to drive.

:10:25. > :10:31.Interesting to see the amount of Flow-Viz on the Red Bulls. Every

:10:31. > :10:33.second is an opportunity to learn. They are trying to maximise their

:10:33. > :10:38.second is an opportunity to learn. performance. They know there is a

:10:38. > :10:42.world championship at stake here. They are not letting off the

:10:42. > :10:47.throttle. I have to say that right now they are looking good, but I

:10:47. > :10:54.don't think it is cut and dried. Ferrari are getting closer. They are

:10:54. > :10:59.in the ballpark. Why do Ferrari do so few laps in comparison to, say,

:10:59. > :11:03.Red Bull? They did roughly half the number of

:11:03. > :11:07.laps. That was both drivers. They were practising stimulations for

:11:07. > :11:16.towing each other down the straights. They obviously have a

:11:16. > :11:22.different thought process on this. The key for them is going to beget

:11:22. > :11:28.in the time out of the tyre on the first lap. They really need to be in

:11:28. > :11:32.the front row of the grid. Also under pressure are Force India. It

:11:32. > :11:37.seems to be two similar incidents. Adrian Sutil had a problem on the

:11:37. > :11:45.next lap. Will they be related? Paul di Resta

:11:45. > :11:54.had a bit twitchy going into Parabolica. He went into the

:11:54. > :11:56.barrier. That was quite early to lose the rear. With Adrian Sutil

:11:56. > :12:01.later on, he spun the car. Then we lose the rear. With Adrian Sutil

:12:01. > :12:06.saw him struggling with it as well. I think the car looks an stable. It

:12:06. > :12:09.looks inconsistent. It does not look as if the drivers have much

:12:09. > :12:14.confidence in it. Another person to have a problem was

:12:14. > :12:20.Nico Rosberg. At least they could work on it during the session. How

:12:20. > :12:29.restricting is was Burke not being out there for the team? -- Rosberg.

:12:29. > :12:34.It harms here more than anywhere. With the circuit, you have to feel

:12:34. > :12:41.the changes. You have to have the confident in the car to extract the

:12:41. > :12:44.maximum in qualifying. Rosberg goes into qualifying

:12:44. > :12:51.learning what Hamilton and the opposition were doing before. From

:12:51. > :12:56.the team's point of view, that is 50% of their time gone. Lewis

:12:56. > :13:02.Hamilton was not the fastest. Normally he can pull the most out of

:13:02. > :13:07.it. Where will the Times come from

:13:07. > :13:13.today? For each team and car, it looks

:13:13. > :13:18.different. Right now, if a team can get the front tyre grip up on the

:13:18. > :13:22.first lap, they will do a quick time. If we take Vettel come his

:13:22. > :13:29.third timed lap was quicker in sector one and two, but slower in

:13:29. > :13:34.three. If he can combine that, he has got extra time in his pocket.

:13:34. > :13:37.You can play with the amount you heat of the tyres and difference

:13:37. > :13:41.between front and rear. But if somebody gets it, boy, they are

:13:41. > :13:49.going to be fast. This is Paul di Resta's car coming

:13:49. > :13:54.back. We will be back on BBC One in just an hour. Thanks for your

:13:54. > :13:58.company today. Can Hamilton make it five consecutive pole positions?

:13:58. > :14:01.Join us to find out. Thanks for watching. Goodbye.
