:06:20. > :06:25.what happens as Lap 1 unfolds and whether your wife comes in and gives
:06:26. > :06:31.any orders, David. After this we will have seven rounds remaining. As
:06:32. > :06:36.we build towards the final showdown in Abu Dhabi, where double points
:06:37. > :06:41.will come into play. Today it is Spa and asked that await. David, this
:06:42. > :06:47.really is a track that can bite back if you make any mistakes. It is so
:06:48. > :06:50.fast, which makes it so unforgiving, any mistake you make, the average
:06:51. > :06:57.speed is massive around this race track. Whether wet or dry, you are
:06:58. > :07:00.doing serious amounts of speed. Momentum will carry you towards the
:07:01. > :07:03.barrier. The consequences for any small error the driver will make,
:07:04. > :07:11.even the slowest corner of the track, with Romain Grosjean creating
:07:12. > :07:17.that multiple car crash with Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso. The
:07:18. > :07:22.safety car is 60%. It is a difficult place for a team, the weather plays
:07:23. > :07:26.a massive factor. It could be raining on one part, dry in another,
:07:27. > :07:32.how does it work? When you were managing a team? You have all of the
:07:33. > :07:37.gauges my day we did not have the sophistication they have now, they
:07:38. > :07:43.can predict to the second where the rain is coming from. You have the
:07:44. > :07:48.mountains, trees, forests, and straights. It is the one track that
:07:49. > :07:53.computers, whatever you have got, they play no role, you take that
:07:54. > :07:57.feeling, look at what you have got, maybe you have spotters on the
:07:58. > :08:02.track, that is what we used to have, they worked as good as the computers
:08:03. > :08:06.we have. Human technology just as important. It was required yesterday
:08:07. > :08:07.when mother nature played its part and played absolute havoc with
:08:08. > :08:15.qualifying. Nico Hulkenberg was the first
:08:16. > :08:20.big-name casualty as he went out in Q1 after saying he had no confidence
:08:21. > :08:24.in his Force India car. Williams had come into the weekend saying it was
:08:25. > :08:27.their best chance of a race win so far this season, but it did not work
:08:28. > :08:34.out in qualifying, they could have done without the rain. Tasks darts
:08:35. > :08:40.from six. Ferrari have looked strong. -- Valtteri Bottas starts at
:08:41. > :08:43.six. They settle for fourth. Red Bull looked like the best of the
:08:44. > :08:50.rest, but Daniel Ricciardo made a mistake at Marchmont. He starts
:08:51. > :08:55.fifth, leaving the gusty and therefore to take it for Mercedes.
:08:56. > :08:58.The world champion starts third. Mercedes were two seconds ahead of
:08:59. > :09:02.the field from Hamilton had been complaining of problems with his
:09:03. > :09:06.car, but Rosberg had no issues and put together an incredible map to
:09:07. > :09:13.put together his fourth consecutive pole position, but his first at this
:09:14. > :09:17.circuit. -- incredible lap. Lewis Hamilton has his first front row
:09:18. > :09:24.start since the Canadian Grand Prix. Vettel is that, Alonso fourth,
:09:25. > :09:32.followed by a Hungarian race winner Ricciardo. McLaren drivers are
:09:33. > :09:40.seventh and 10th respectively. Missing out on the top ten were Toro
:09:41. > :09:51.Rosso and Schuyler Rick Vernon. -- Jules Eric Vernon. Watch out for a
:09:52. > :09:57.big start from Nico Hulkenberg. Gutierrez had another failure on his
:09:58. > :10:02.salver and Andrew Lotterer, who makes his debut, and qualified his
:10:03. > :10:15.team-mate, Marcus Ericsson. -- another failure on the Stauber two
:10:16. > :10:21.Stauber -- Sauber. We have Max Verstappen, a young guy, questions
:10:22. > :10:29.over him being too young. And we have Andre Lotterer at 32 making his
:10:30. > :10:32.debut. You would suggest that having that experience has enabled him to
:10:33. > :10:39.make his team-mate Ericsson not look any good on his first time at the
:10:40. > :10:43.racetrack. Must be frustrating. Red Bull did really well in qualifying
:10:44. > :10:47.yesterday. Let's wander down the pit lane. Sebastian Vettel qualified
:10:48. > :10:53.third, they were over the moon. Eddie Mr session in the practice
:10:54. > :11:05.sessions. -- Eddie Mr section. They have a problem with overall
:11:06. > :11:09.speed. They counteracted that by running a low-down car, they will be
:11:10. > :11:13.reasonably quick. The way they set their car up is different, they take
:11:14. > :11:18.into consideration the downside on the engine performance. Maybe
:11:19. > :11:22.Renault have decided and have been able to up their game, who knows
:11:23. > :11:26.what is going to happen? They will be boosted by qualifying, it was
:11:27. > :11:31.definitely a positive. Four in a row for Nico Rosberg. Yesterday Lewis
:11:32. > :11:41.said he was not bothered about not getting pole position, he thinks it
:11:42. > :11:45.might be good to be beyond. Does it make much difference? No question in
:11:46. > :11:52.this race it is not a big deal not to be on pole, as opposed to Monte
:11:53. > :11:56.Carlo where overtaking is difficult. He may know something in terms of
:11:57. > :12:00.the setup of his car relative to Nico, if it is a dry race for
:12:01. > :12:07.instance, it will benefit him. You have a real chance of overtaking
:12:08. > :12:11.with or without DRS. Let's look at the championship. Lewis Hamilton
:12:12. > :12:18.trying to close the 11 point gap to Nico Rosberg. Then a gap of 62 Red
:12:19. > :12:23.Bull's Daniel Ricciardo. Fernando Alonso outshining his team-mate Kimi
:12:24. > :12:28.Raikkonen. Valtteri Bottas is the first Williams in fifth. Mercedes
:12:29. > :12:32.hold all of the cards in the Mercedes championship, but the
:12:33. > :12:39.challenge for second is on. Red Bull holding third position, but Ferrari
:12:40. > :12:43.and Williams are at the fore. Let's keep walking down the pit lane. It
:12:44. > :12:47.makes it really exciting. We know that Mercedes are right up there,
:12:48. > :12:50.the battle for second is interesting. We spoke to Claire
:12:51. > :12:55.Williams yesterday, she said they are fighting for third, but
:12:56. > :12:59.yesterday she said they might... They will try to go for second, that
:13:00. > :13:03.would be incredible after last year. It is all about leadership. You have
:13:04. > :13:07.to be setting targets, even if it seems a little bit beyond what may
:13:08. > :13:09.be realistically achievable, if seems a little bit beyond what may
:13:10. > :13:12.be realistically you do not set the bar high for your team, I am sure
:13:13. > :13:17.you use to do this, aspiring towards victory. It seems ridiculous that
:13:18. > :13:21.the time. Everybody does that, in life as well as sport, you have to
:13:22. > :13:26.set a limit. Try to which Egypt and when you achieve it you have to move
:13:27. > :13:32.it up another peg. -- try to achieve it. Valtteri Bottas is one of two
:13:33. > :13:36.drivers trying to help Williams achieved that. Lee caught up with
:13:37. > :13:42.him 20 minutes ago when he was off to the drivers parade. Valtteri, we
:13:43. > :13:45.came into this weekend with high hopes for Williams, did not go quite
:13:46. > :13:49.to plan yesterday but the weather conditions were crazy, how much did
:13:50. > :13:56.that play into it? It affected it a lot. We know that in dry conditions
:13:57. > :14:01.we have perfect pace and when it is changing conditions, you know,
:14:02. > :14:04.things like this can happen. We were not made it quite as close to the
:14:05. > :14:10.top three places in qualifying yesterday, but today is a new day.
:14:11. > :14:15.This is always a fabulous circuit, along lap, like a roller-coaster, in
:14:16. > :14:18.terms of you trying to get onto the podium today, do you do it at the
:14:19. > :14:24.start, take the opportunities or take the long game? We react to
:14:25. > :14:30.whatever situation it will be. In the start we will attack. We
:14:31. > :14:34.normally get good starts. Any position gained in the beginning is
:14:35. > :14:39.a bonus for us in terms of the strategy of the race and then we can
:14:40. > :14:43.maybe choose a bit better about the strategy, which laps we are going to
:14:44. > :14:56.stop. It should be an interesting one. Even if we do not get records,
:14:57. > :15:02.the race is very long. Is This might be pointless but do you know about
:15:03. > :15:14.the weather? Nobody knows! We will see. Have a great race. That was
:15:15. > :15:20.Valtteri Bottas earlier. Jenson Button is behind us, just spin round
:15:21. > :15:25.and we can see him preparing. Interesting times at McLaren. You
:15:26. > :15:30.have talked openly and to Jonathan Neale about what will happen. What
:15:31. > :15:37.do they need to do to turn their season around? He was talking about
:15:38. > :15:40.three years and I was somewhat perplexed. If I was a driver in this
:15:41. > :15:44.team and I heard the management saying it would be a year of
:15:45. > :15:49.transition with the engine, we know where Mercedes is because they are
:15:50. > :15:53.strong and they have gone a different route, it is all to play
:15:54. > :15:59.for. They could do an amazing job at McLaren, as they have done in the
:16:00. > :16:06.past but in recent years, the DMA is not stacking up, we do not see where
:16:07. > :16:15.these people will produce the goods -- DNA. There is fierce opposition.
:16:16. > :16:18.David jumped on his bike to catch up with Jenson, there is a bit of
:16:19. > :16:45.hilarity in this! Jenson Button. About time! I thought
:16:46. > :16:53.we would make a little team. I got a shirt printed for you. A Scotsman!
:16:54. > :17:00.Am I putting this on? You are supposed to deliver the Irish men
:17:01. > :17:08.line to finish the joke! All we need is an Irishman!
:17:09. > :17:16.We are going to go for a little ride around the world famous
:17:17. > :17:20.Spa-Francorchamps. We have started in one of the most iconic corners in
:17:21. > :17:26.the world. You are doing about 190 miles an hour. The even more this
:17:27. > :17:31.year. It has been termed as easy flat in the last few years, this
:17:32. > :17:39.time? If it is not easy flat, these things have massive torque and that
:17:40. > :17:46.is when you can have a moment. This could be a bit more of a challenge
:17:47. > :17:51.this year. Let's do it. I have popped a gear!
:17:52. > :18:03.Can you interview yourself? Coming up the straight into Les Combes. Top
:18:04. > :18:08.of the hill after Eau Rouge. I will just stop you here. I think I am
:18:09. > :18:15.having a heart attack! Break cooling is a big issue this year. It is
:18:16. > :18:23.around here. As you notice, it is freezing. I did notice! You come up
:18:24. > :18:27.to Les Combes, your brakes are cold, the tyres are cold and
:18:28. > :18:32.suddenly they have to do something. Normally massive understeer. And you
:18:33. > :18:35.get to the third part and you have picked up front grip because the
:18:36. > :18:40.tyres are working so the balance is changing. It seems straight at this
:18:41. > :18:46.stage of the season that you don't have a contract for next year.
:18:47. > :18:51.Freedom is a nice thing. You are holding back? We have just not sat
:18:52. > :18:55.down and talked but when you have raced the 14 years if I had to
:18:56. > :18:59.retire, so be it but I feel I have so much more to and I cannot imagine
:19:00. > :19:04.life without motorsport and especially Formula One.
:19:05. > :19:16.The good bit is I think I can have you on this next part. It is all
:19:17. > :19:27.downhill. Try to keep up! Wow! Be careful! I am a bit scared. Through
:19:28. > :19:37.Pouhon, you realise on a bike how steep this is, no wonder it is so
:19:38. > :19:42.tricky. Incredible elevation change here, and you forget even when you
:19:43. > :19:49.are racing. It feels so much different on a bike. We struggled up
:19:50. > :19:54.Eau Rouge and this is why it is a difficult corner in Pouhon because
:19:55. > :19:58.you are going so fast. This is where Michael ran into the back of me.
:19:59. > :20:04.When you brake tested him? That's right! Michael Schumacher hit David
:20:05. > :20:11.Coulthard and he is out! Put a helmet on! Take yourself out of the
:20:12. > :20:18.cockpit, you are a fan, what do you think of the season so far? It is
:20:19. > :20:22.good that Lewis and Nico are battling. Lewis seemed stronger in
:20:23. > :20:26.the head than ever even with his issues. He has taken the rough with
:20:27. > :20:30.the smooth pretty well and it will be interesting but we have our own
:20:31. > :20:34.challenges to see who we are racing. I don't think it will be Williams,
:20:35. > :20:40.it will be Force India, maybe Ferrari so a good battle. As always,
:20:41. > :20:43.thank you for your time. That summer break has been good for you.
:20:44. > :20:55.Unbelievable strength! Great stuff, enjoyable watching it,
:20:56. > :20:59.you managed to get Jenson to say that 14 years is a good innings but
:21:00. > :21:04.he still seems keen. Did he say anything else that would make you
:21:05. > :21:07.think he will definitely stay? He definitely wants to come no question
:21:08. > :21:13.about it and any team would see him as an asset. As we were talking
:21:14. > :21:18.about, McLaren in this rebuilding period, moving to Honda, they are
:21:19. > :21:21.just not prioritising drivers, that is not where they need to be looking
:21:22. > :21:26.although that is not a great thing for Jenson. You have got to go to
:21:27. > :21:36.the commentary box so I will let you go. To the grid, not the commentary
:21:37. > :21:41.box. Allan has joined us. One more line about Jenson, 14 years is a
:21:42. > :21:45.fantastic time in Formula One but how much would Formula One miss him
:21:46. > :21:49.if he was not here? I think McLaren would miss him, he has the most
:21:50. > :21:56.points in that team right now. He seems to be able to relish these
:21:57. > :22:01.changeable conditions. Right now, their lack of speed is down to the
:22:02. > :22:06.car as opposed to the drivers. Let's have a closer look at Spa, what can
:22:07. > :22:10.you tell us about what should be happening today? I would like to
:22:11. > :22:15.look at Red Bull, Eddie was talking about balancing it out and this is
:22:16. > :22:19.Canada, another high-speed circuit. If you look at the rear wing from
:22:20. > :22:27.Canada, significantly less. They have taken up some -- taken off some
:22:28. > :22:33.of these small error dynamic aids to maximise straight-line speed because
:22:34. > :22:37.this track is very different -- smaller aerodynamic aids. You have a
:22:38. > :22:42.fast first section up to Les Combes, then a middle section and
:22:43. > :22:49.another flat-out sector at the end. But from Turn 1 up to turn five is
:22:50. > :22:57.1850 metres when flat out but with the hybrid boost out of Turn 1 and
:22:58. > :23:01.less aerodynamics, Eau Rouge, Turn 2, three, four, that is not flat out
:23:02. > :23:15.sober teams have to work out the balance. -- so the teams. They have
:23:16. > :23:19.to be really clear with their wing levels. Red Bull dropped theirs,
:23:20. > :23:24.they were still the fastest at the top of Eau Rouge. They were one
:23:25. > :23:29.kilometre quicker than Mercedes but at the end of the straight they were
:23:30. > :23:35.six kilometres slower than Mercedes. They have a lot to do and that is
:23:36. > :23:39.why it was so important that Sebastian Vettel qualified well in
:23:40. > :23:47.difficult conditions. This year, to drive at Spa is more difficult than
:23:48. > :23:52.last year? That extra boost profile, the teams are having to think if
:23:53. > :23:57.they boost everything out of the first corner or do they hold back up
:23:58. > :24:02.the long drag to Les Combes. With the extra torque and reduced error
:24:03. > :24:10.neither am it levels, the car is coming out from underneath them --
:24:11. > :24:14.reduced aerodynamic levels. We can get some wise words of wisdom, Tom
:24:15. > :24:19.Clarkson is in the pit lane for us. There is no such thing as bad
:24:20. > :24:27.weather, only the wrong clothes! Hoping it is not going to rain. The
:24:28. > :24:33.cars cannot do their practice starts here, they would go straight into
:24:34. > :24:38.that wall so they do them on the run down to Eau Rouge. From a strategy
:24:39. > :24:46.point of view, a 1-stop is possible, the option tyre can last
:24:47. > :24:49.more than 15 laps and the prime can do the remaining 20 but it looks
:24:50. > :24:54.more like a two-stop race because it is so easy to overtake. Running up
:24:55. > :24:58.to Les Combes, back into the Bus Stop chicane, you need some rubber
:24:59. > :25:03.at the end of the race on your tyres so it looks like two stops for most
:25:04. > :25:10.people unless we get a safety car. One other thing to bear in mind, the
:25:11. > :25:17.energy recovery systems. The drivers get 33 seconds per lap of that 160
:25:18. > :25:20.brake horsepower boost buries more than 33 seconds of full throttle
:25:21. > :25:27.around the track so they have to be strategic about where they use it.
:25:28. > :25:34.That could lead to some great racing this afternoon. That is what we are
:25:35. > :25:38.after. It is one of the loudest pit lane is this season. Just behind us,
:25:39. > :25:43.Ferrari, there is a rumour that there was a meeting last night in
:25:44. > :25:47.Red Bull with a certain Fernando Alonso. Do you know anything about
:25:48. > :25:54.it? The first little rumour of the season! Last night, to everybody's
:25:55. > :25:58.vision, Fernando Alonso sat visually in front of the people at Red Bull
:25:59. > :26:03.and that was an indication to Ferrari, don't guarantee I will be
:26:04. > :26:06.with you next year because I am looking at other option and if he
:26:07. > :26:12.was so open in front of Red Bull, you have to guarantee he also talks
:26:13. > :26:17.to Mercedes. That is the start, Alonso could kick it off. He could
:26:18. > :26:25.have just been hanging out with some old mates! And John Hurt is here,
:26:26. > :26:32.thank you for joining us. Very pleased! How are you? You spend most
:26:33. > :26:36.of your time in Ireland so you are used to this weather! It is going to
:26:37. > :26:42.be very interesting, it is the same every year. What is your passion in
:26:43. > :26:48.motor racing? Why come here when you could be in these exotic places? I
:26:49. > :26:54.have come here this time because it is my wife's birthday and her
:26:55. > :27:00.sister's birthday and I thought it would be the best present. It is not
:27:01. > :27:07.your birthday, it is their birthday but you are getting the treat!
:27:08. > :27:13.Absolutely, it is fantastic. Let's walk over here because the cars are
:27:14. > :27:19.coming past. I don't want you to get run over. We have all this
:27:20. > :27:23.unbelievable noise and the thing that sticks out in my mind about
:27:24. > :27:27.you, I saw your one-man show in the west end and you came on stage for a
:27:28. > :27:32.long period and not a word was spoken and not the thing was said
:27:33. > :27:41.and yet not one person in the audience is dead make a noise. --
:27:42. > :27:50.dared. There is such a contradiction. Tell us about that
:27:51. > :27:53.show. That show, you are right it depends on that silence at the
:27:54. > :28:00.beginning, that is what sets the scene. If anybody breaks it, it is
:28:01. > :28:09.very difficult to get over. But here, they tell me that Formula One
:28:10. > :28:16.has got quiet! It doesn't seem to me like that! I think that has been
:28:17. > :28:21.exaggerated. Your career, you never seem to be out of work, we are
:28:22. > :28:29.constantly seeing you in films, you have just had one released. Well,
:28:30. > :28:37.let's hope so! Tell us about Hercules. That was great fun to
:28:38. > :28:44.make. We were in Budapest for five months. I tried to get to the
:28:45. > :28:50.Formula One there but I was working that day. You have come arguably to
:28:51. > :28:57.the worlds best motor rating circuit and we wish you a great day. --
:28:58. > :29:11.motor racing. You are a huge fan of Lewis, what have you made of the
:29:12. > :29:20.racing this season? I hope he wins today, I have everything crossed. I
:29:21. > :29:26.had such a good time at Mercedes. I am thrilled for them that they have
:29:27. > :29:31.got the two of them there but I would like it to be reversed, I
:29:32. > :29:36.would like Lewis to come first! Thank you, very enjoyable to talk to
:29:37. > :29:38.you. Just seeing Bernie Ecclestone and on the grid and David is there
:29:39. > :29:52.for us. the great and La Source corner. That
:29:53. > :29:57.was the original source of the river, the red River, that ran down
:29:58. > :30:01.to Eau Rouge corner. This is one thing challenging for the drivers.
:30:02. > :30:06.An uphill start, difficult to see the elevation change as I walk, but
:30:07. > :30:10.I am not out of breath because it is downhill. It is about 300 metres
:30:11. > :30:15.from pole position to the start of the Grand Prix. At this point, if
:30:16. > :30:19.you can come down with me on the ground, there is a clearly defined
:30:20. > :30:22.groove, like no other racetrack in the world apart from Indianapolis.
:30:23. > :30:27.groove, like no other racetrack in There is a groove cut into the
:30:28. > :30:42.tarmac, it starts and stops at the back of the grid and here. The first
:30:43. > :30:46.Grand Prix was 1921 here. The first race in 1921. It was only motorbikes
:30:47. > :30:57.for years, the first car race was 1925. For 20 years every Grand Prix
:30:58. > :31:00.in that period had wet weather. Christian Horner, there was a 20
:31:01. > :31:06.year period when it rained every year at this Grand Prix, I can feel
:31:07. > :31:16.spitting, do you trust satellite or do you have a man with a bald head
:31:17. > :31:19.standing in the pit lane? Bald-dar is the way to go. Radar cannot
:31:20. > :31:24.predict, but it can be dry at the top of the hill. The circuit is so
:31:25. > :31:29.long there can be different conditions in different parts. There
:31:30. > :31:34.was a huge gap, two second gap, between you and Mercedes, the
:31:35. > :31:38.biggest gap between front and second row since 1988. Whatever the weather
:31:39. > :31:42.conditions, you are not really racing Mercedes, are you? We have
:31:43. > :31:46.taken a different approach. Look at their rear wing, it is close to the
:31:47. > :31:50.size they had in Monaco. Ours is the same size as Monza, we have gone
:31:51. > :31:55.four straight line speed. In the first and third sector it puts us
:31:56. > :31:58.closer to them. In the wet it is more of a penalty. On race runs we
:31:59. > :32:17.were much closer. Nico Rosberg gaining that upper hand
:32:18. > :32:21.for straight pole positions. We have Jules Bianchi, I will grab a quick
:32:22. > :32:39.word. I fancy a bit of that if I can get him. Sorry to jump in. INAUDIBLE
:32:40. > :32:46.Our main competitors. Let's see what is happening. We want to finish in
:32:47. > :32:50.front of catering. That is Jules Bianchi, driving for Marussia.
:32:51. > :32:56.The punching above his weight. I am interested in this battle, Sebastian
:32:57. > :33:00.Vettel, Fernando Alonso, we have seen that happen at Silverstone,
:33:01. > :33:11.great wheel-to-wheel action, using every trick in the book to get an
:33:12. > :33:16.advantage. INAUDIBLE We seem to have technical issues on
:33:17. > :33:21.the grid with DC. Hopefully we will get him back in a few minutes as he
:33:22. > :33:25.wanders up and down. We saw Jules Bianchi, what an interesting
:33:26. > :33:29.character, a great driver with Marussia, showed how good he is at
:33:30. > :33:35.fighting for the Ferrari seat, ultimately, with Nico Hulkenberg.
:33:36. > :33:39.What are the chances? How interesting after last night that we
:33:40. > :33:42.saw Fernando Alonso sitting so openly in front of the people from
:33:43. > :33:49.Red Bull, who knows what might happen there? If that was to
:33:50. > :33:53.happen, it opens the seat at Harare. I still think Hulkenberg just has
:33:54. > :33:58.the edge, however, this man, Bianchi, has developed, matured, he
:33:59. > :34:00.has the taste of winning and I think he could be a real strong candidate
:34:01. > :34:07.for Ferrari full is very interesting, we can go back to the
:34:08. > :34:11.grid. Hopefully the microphone is working. David? Sorry about that, a
:34:12. > :34:14.small microphone problem. I have found Tom Clarkson, he is
:34:15. > :34:18.hard-wired. I was about to have a word with Daniel Ricciardo, he has
:34:19. > :34:26.popped off the grid for comfort break. Tom is going to come with me.
:34:27. > :34:33.Adrian Newey... I will have a quick line with him. Adrian? He is in his
:34:34. > :34:37.own, headset on. He's coming back. I thought you were in a zone of
:34:38. > :34:43.concentration, what can you see on the Ferrari? Just bits and pieces,
:34:44. > :34:47.see if there is anything new on the car. Have an interesting race this
:34:48. > :34:55.afternoon, good luck. Romain Grosjean is walking here. Sorry,
:34:56. > :35:00.Tom, we are joined at the hip, like S3 legate race. Get your arm around
:35:01. > :35:07.my shoulder, have a cuddle. Can I walk with you? You are having an
:35:08. > :35:10.interesting season, still smiling, which is good, you are obviously
:35:11. > :35:15.confident in the job you are doing Westermark I am trying to give 100%
:35:16. > :35:20.every time, it is clearly harder than what it was last year. There is
:35:21. > :35:25.less celebration, but still as much work as we did. We are trying to
:35:26. > :35:31.improve. Right now is the time to focus on the future and prepare for
:35:32. > :35:34.next season. There have been rumours of a possible change of teams, you
:35:35. > :35:39.will not tell us, go on, tell us where you are going to be. I wish I
:35:40. > :35:45.could but I do not know. I want to win races but right now trying to
:35:46. > :35:48.help Lotus as hard as I can. You are doing a good job, good luck with
:35:49. > :35:52.that. We find ourselves at the Williams team, it of a
:35:53. > :35:57.disappointment in qualifying. You don't mind if I bring you in.
:35:58. > :36:02.Williams underperformed yesterday. They did, but they were very much
:36:03. > :36:06.focused on today, expecting a dry race, I expect them to move forward,
:36:07. > :36:11.particularly Felipe Massa, he goes very well here. Let's have a look,
:36:12. > :36:18.who else? McLaren as well. Let's have a word. Sorry, Tom, you were
:36:19. > :36:24.hesitant. Tom and I are joined by a cable, it will be a double
:36:25. > :36:28.interview. Do McLaren see the weather as an opportunity having
:36:29. > :36:34.learned from a mistake in Budapest, something else in place in strategy
:36:35. > :36:40.to try and take advantage this time? We have to blame ourselves for that,
:36:41. > :36:45.we have been reviewing the processes and everybody is clear about what to
:36:46. > :36:50.do, how to react to any conditions. It should be fine. Another test
:36:51. > :36:56.coming. Tell us about the weather, what is the radar saying? Some drops
:36:57. > :37:01.of rain. If I have to trust this specific radar, there is a shower
:37:02. > :37:08.coming. OK, have a good race, thank you very much. Let's take a step, a
:37:09. > :37:16.Little wonder, let's go down this way with Helmut Marko, a man who has
:37:17. > :37:20.excited all of the young hopefuls by signing Max Verstappen to race in
:37:21. > :37:25.Formula One from next year at 17. At the other end of the scale... He is
:37:26. > :37:30.shaking his head. Not a thumbs up from Felipe, too late for him,
:37:31. > :37:37.getting focused. Having a difficult time. We are going this way. Let's
:37:38. > :37:40.go down this way Tom. I was about to say Felipe is having a difficult
:37:41. > :37:45.time in Formula One at the moment, not getting the run of the luck. He
:37:46. > :37:50.thinks it is bad luck, but at some point you start making your own luck
:37:51. > :37:53.in Formula One. I wanted to ask, do you think these guys will be flat
:37:54. > :37:59.through Eau Rouge on Lap 1 question mark definitely not, 100 kilograms
:38:00. > :38:03.of fuel on board. This race will be limited if it is dry, if it is wet
:38:04. > :38:10.it will not be. I will head off to the commentary box. The twins on the
:38:11. > :38:15.grid. Poor old Tom being dragged around by DC. Eddie and I have come
:38:16. > :38:20.out to the paddock, little spits of rain, exactly what we expect from
:38:21. > :38:25.Spa, this is what everybody has been talking about. I want to talk about
:38:26. > :38:32.young drivers, David talking about Max Verstappen, extreme now, he will
:38:33. > :38:37.make his Formula One debut next year at the age of 17, the youngest ever
:38:38. > :38:41.Formula One driver. Two schools of thought as to whether he is ready
:38:42. > :38:45.and whether he should or should not do it. Romain Grosjean came in, he
:38:46. > :38:51.was not ready, he came back and was lucky to get the second chance and
:38:52. > :38:57.proved himself. Where do you stand? Romain was very lucky, Paul di Resta
:38:58. > :39:02.has not been as lucky yet. You have to take the opportunity when it
:39:03. > :39:05.arises. He has had the opportunity, but 16, 17, thinking about all of
:39:06. > :39:12.the other aspects of life in general, my word is to Red Bull, I
:39:13. > :39:17.said it yesterday, be careful. When you take somebody 16, 17, 18, please
:39:18. > :39:22.make sure there is a life in racing after you have finished with him.
:39:23. > :39:27.Try to make sure. We have seen all of these drivers, all of the drivers
:39:28. > :39:32.through their hands, no longer in Formula One, they are no longer in
:39:33. > :39:38.racing, I am concerned about that. Daniel Kvyat came in at 19 and has
:39:39. > :39:43.proved himself. We saw him on the grid and caught up with him earlier.
:39:44. > :39:48.You just missed out on the top ten yesterday, I suppose points are in
:39:49. > :39:52.your vision for today? That is what I am looking for, it will be an
:39:53. > :39:59.interesting race, for sure. Wet or dry? I don't know, it is the same
:40:00. > :40:03.for everyone. Short and sweet as we see everyone preparing. Bernie
:40:04. > :40:08.talking to Ron Dennis, your best friend. The finger is still lagging,
:40:09. > :40:13.that is important, still alive and kicking. I would imagine he will
:40:14. > :40:18.revolutionise Formula One, he has probably had his mind on other
:40:19. > :40:22.things the past five months. Believe me, the way I know this guy, he will
:40:23. > :40:29.come out with some unbelievable ideas and generally he gets it
:40:30. > :40:37.right. Let's see how Sergio Perez is feeling. The highest place for Force
:40:38. > :40:41.India on the grid, what will happen? Always chaos at the start.
:40:42. > :40:45.It is, with the weather, you do not know what it is going to do, still a
:40:46. > :40:50.couple of minutes to go and it can change very quickly. I hope you get
:40:51. > :40:55.some points, thank you. Nobody knows what is going to happen. It is the
:40:56. > :40:59.same for everybody, this confusion. This track is difficult to drive in
:41:00. > :41:02.the dry, difficult to drive in the wet, but when conditions are
:41:03. > :41:08.changeable, that is the worst possible combination. It throws up
:41:09. > :41:12.uncertainty. I remember Bernie Ecclestone, we saw him wagging his
:41:13. > :41:17.finger a few minutes ago, he always said give me a wet race, are
:41:18. > :41:21.changeable race, you see unbelievable situations unfold and
:41:22. > :41:26.excitement and drama, this is what it is about. We want to see drama,
:41:27. > :41:31.not a procession, we want high excitement. This pays, partly
:41:32. > :41:36.because of the weather, always produces. -- this place. Eddie
:41:37. > :41:42.Magnusson on the grid. How was he feeling? You did well in qualifying
:41:43. > :41:46.yesterday, it is funny and cloudy and starting to rain, how you
:41:47. > :41:50.feeling before the race? It is always exciting here with the
:41:51. > :41:57.weather. At the end of the day it will be the same for everyone. Thank
:41:58. > :42:01.you. He seemed really relaxed, didn't he? In the last few races
:42:02. > :42:07.Kevin seems to have settled down and got his confidence back. On top of
:42:08. > :42:11.that he is putting huge pressure on Jensen, here is a young boy, first
:42:12. > :42:17.year in Formula One, totally undaunted. Focused, clear in the way
:42:18. > :42:23.he wants to operate. Putting pressure on Lewis... Jenson Button,
:42:24. > :42:28.forgive me. We heard some doubt creeping into the dialogue between
:42:29. > :42:32.David and Jenson earlier in the bike ride about retirement, I am sure
:42:33. > :42:40.Jenson Button Cook was thinking about retirement and marriage I
:42:41. > :42:44.presume. -- Jenson was thinking. It is not about driving, it is a whole
:42:45. > :42:48.new world. The pressure is immense coming into a big team like McLaren,
:42:49. > :42:55.it would be less pressure coming into Toro Rosso. You could say that
:42:56. > :43:00.because Kevin was replacing a world champion in Lewis Hamilton. That was
:43:01. > :43:06.always going to be seen to be a no hope of job for Kevin. How well has
:43:07. > :43:11.he adapted to it? I think he has accounted for himself unbelievably
:43:12. > :43:15.well. More than justifies his position in Formula One, I think he
:43:16. > :43:22.is a huge asset. As we are talking, literally a few raindrops coming
:43:23. > :43:26.down. It is predicted 2pm, local time, it will be smacked in the
:43:27. > :43:33.middle of the race, it will make things really exciting. Daniil Kvyat
:43:34. > :43:39.knows that could happen and is firing on all cylinders at the
:43:40. > :43:44.moment. He has led two races. -- annual Ricciardo knows that could
:43:45. > :43:50.happen. Here is your commentary team David Coulthard and Ben Edwards. Tom
:43:51. > :43:55.and Lee are in the pit lane. The season commences.
:43:56. > :44:04.Two part two of the season of change. Friends are now flows, cat
:44:05. > :44:09.and dog, scratch and snarl, finger flicking mastery of the new breed.
:44:10. > :44:12.and dog, scratch and snarl, finger flicking mastery Like we had not
:44:13. > :44:21.seen in years. Drama we have been yearning for. Eight races to go.
:44:22. > :44:36.Come on in. Take the leap. Welcome to Formula One.
:44:37. > :44:46.COMMENTATOR: Scything through the trees, dipping and climbing over a
:44:47. > :44:50.distance of 4.3 miles, Spa-Francorchamps is a true Grand
:44:51. > :44:53.Prix circuit and today it hosts the 59th World Championship event in
:44:54. > :45:00.Belgium, over 90 years since racing was first held here. Originally a
:45:01. > :45:07.triangular layout, the modern version appeared on the scene in
:45:08. > :45:11.1983, maintaining the hairpin at La Source and the famous Eau Rouge
:45:12. > :45:18.section but incorporating a new sector to. It deserves its
:45:19. > :45:23.reputation as one of the all-time great circuits and it provide the
:45:24. > :45:28.stage for the intense rivalry between Nico Rosberg and Lewis
:45:29. > :45:32.Hamilton to continue. The two Mercedes drivers are on the front
:45:33. > :45:35.row and just 11 points separate them in the championship but with
:45:36. > :45:39.Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso just behind, they cannot afford to
:45:40. > :45:43.make any mistakes while trying to snatch an advantage. Wonderful shots
:45:44. > :45:48.looking down over the Ardennes forest, the grid on the right-hand
:45:49. > :45:52.side of the picture as we looked at it and there is Alonso who has never
:45:53. > :45:57.won this Grand Prix in Belgium before. But he may be has more
:45:58. > :46:04.opportunities, he loves changeable conditions and there could be some
:46:05. > :46:12.rain in this comp read. But a dry track to start with -- in this Grand
:46:13. > :46:16.Prix. Red Bull feel they can challenge Mercedes a bit especially
:46:17. > :46:20.if Hamilton and Rosberg get carried away with their own confrontation as
:46:21. > :46:26.Hamilton tries to take the championship lead back. On pole
:46:27. > :46:31.position it is Rosberg himself, his fourth consecutive pole of the
:46:32. > :46:39.season and seventh overall in 2014. Hamilton on the front row for the
:46:40. > :46:43.first time in four Grand Prix. Daniel Ricciardo one in Hungary last
:46:44. > :46:49.time out and about three Bottas as a three podium finishes. Magnusson
:46:50. > :46:52.ahead of four-time winner here Kimi Raikkonen, Felipe Massa ninth and
:46:53. > :46:56.Jason Buckton another former whiz it starred in ten -- Jenson Button
:46:57. > :47:08.another former winner. Sauber still looking for their first
:47:09. > :47:14.points of the year. Romain Grosjean struggled in qualifying but a good
:47:15. > :47:15.effort from Jules Bianchi. Nico Hulkenberg will be looking to make
:47:16. > :47:24.up places. At the back we have Formula One
:47:25. > :47:30.debut Andre Lotterer against his team-mate Marcus Ericsson. How will
:47:31. > :47:34.he get on with the full Grand Prix distance? He is a sports car racer
:47:35. > :47:43.so he is used to longer races than this. There is Nico Rosberg, David,
:47:44. > :47:47.starting from the front row. We have had four wins out of ten from pole
:47:48. > :47:53.position so it is not a guarantee here. And worryingly for Nico, he
:47:54. > :48:01.has not had a high conversion rate of pole positions to race victories.
:48:02. > :48:04.Although it has been the case that the front half normally have the
:48:05. > :48:09.lion 's share of success, there are so many variables. Hamilton was not
:48:10. > :48:14.too bothered about nullifying second because this is one of the easier
:48:15. > :48:27.tracks to overtake -- qualifying second. Momentum is something, and
:48:28. > :48:31.Lewis is a lot braver on the kerb at the top of the hill which gives him
:48:32. > :48:38.more speed coming into Malmedy. Andre Lotterer making his debut, the
:48:39. > :48:42.33-year-old is German but grew up in Belgium so feels very familiar here
:48:43. > :48:46.at Spa and has raced here are couple of times already this year in

:48:50. > :48:55.and everybody apart from one using the soft tyre. Adrian Sutil starting
:48:56. > :49:02.in 14th has gone for the medium compound. That is strange because if
:49:03. > :49:08.we get rain and it goes to intermediates, they don't need to
:49:09. > :49:14.use the other option of tyre. There is an offset in performance between
:49:15. > :49:18.the yellow marked tyres. You have to clear the car by a certain time,
:49:19. > :49:27.Ferrari are still working, this is bad news. Tom? I am standing by the
:49:28. > :49:30.Ferrari pit and they had to rush out a spare battery pack to Fernando
:49:31. > :49:36.Alonso's car, suggesting they had not been able to start it in time.
:49:37. > :49:41.Forget it now, he is going to lose his grid position as they try to get

:49:47. > :49:54.up an avenue for about every 's. -- for Valtteri Bottas. But he was away
:49:55. > :49:58.before the last car which means he should be able to reclaim his
:49:59. > :50:03.position. That is my understanding, it did not look like it, it looked
:50:04. > :50:06.like they had given up on getting it started. He will not have had the
:50:07. > :50:14.chance to go through a normal starting procedure. They will be
:50:15. > :50:19.going back to a default setting. Huge relief that he is able to take
:50:20. > :50:24.up his grid position and we are set for a great battle between him and
:50:25. > :50:32.Vettel. He may get a penalty because they were working on the Carberry
:50:33. > :50:38.late. -- on the car very late. They are investigating that incident.
:50:39. > :50:43.That is the issue, you have to be clear of the car before any of the
:50:44. > :50:48.other cars are moving which is understandable. He may take his
:50:49. > :50:52.position but he might get a drive-through penalty in the opening
:50:53. > :51:01.laps so still not good news for Nano Alonso. -- Fernando Alonso. Any
:51:02. > :51:05.different activity at Ferrari? Only this battery pack, a few mechanics
:51:06. > :51:12.shaking their heads. Fernando will be disappointed. He said he had had
:51:13. > :51:19.a perfect weekend until qualifying yesterday. It looks like it will be
:51:20. > :51:24.a difficult afternoon for him now. He has never won here, never had a
:51:25. > :51:29.pole position, one of the great circuits but for some reason it has
:51:30. > :51:32.not come together for him here. And you have to take that penalty within
:51:33. > :51:41.a couple of laps of it coming through. He can take it on top of
:51:42. > :51:48.his pit stop time. But it will be too early presumably in the race so
:51:49. > :51:56.maybe a change of strategy. RADIO: There is very light rain. Very light
:51:57. > :52:02.rain being reported by Magnusson, probably not enough to upset the
:52:03. > :52:07.cars. At Williams they are seeing an opportunity. Ferrari and Williams
:52:08. > :52:09.are fighting for third place in the Constructors' Championship. Williams
:52:10. > :52:15.snatched that place after Germany but Ferrari are back in third

:52:23. > :52:26.there will be some sort of penalty but it is just a question of what it
:52:27. > :52:30.will be. Paddy Lowe watching closely. What will happen up front
:52:31. > :52:36.between Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton? It is a short run to the
:52:37. > :52:40.first corner but unusually, all of the drivers have to keep their foot

:53:16. > :53:23.he is reversing back into it. He is selecting gear now, in a quick
:53:24. > :53:29.procedure to get back into it. He has got himself into position. We
:53:30. > :53:35.are all set for the start of the Belgian Grand Prix. Lights out and
:53:36. > :53:39.away we go, you Mercedes up against each other, Rosberg makes a good
:53:40. > :53:43.start but Hamilton make a better one and he snatches the lead, Vettel
:53:44. > :53:49.going around the outside of Nico Rosberg trying to take second place
:53:50. > :53:52.and he has. Rosberg is in third. Alonso in fourth. Contact in the
:53:53. > :53:59.background but upfront it is Hamilton leading, Vettel, Rosberg,
:54:00. > :54:03.Alonso, Ricciardo. They're right yellow flags as a result of an
:54:04. > :54:09.incident at La Source. Here comes Vettel, Sebastian Vettel doing what
:54:10. > :54:13.he did last year! He tries to go past Lewis Hamilton but this time he
:54:14. > :54:16.fails and he has to take the short cut and he will lose a couple of
:54:17. > :54:22.places and comes back in third place. He had to have a go but in
:54:23. > :54:28.the end could not stop the car at the top of the hill. He has rejoined
:54:29. > :54:34.behind Rosberg. He has not gained any advantage. On board with Alonso
:54:35. > :54:38.in fifth place, he has been passed by Daniel Ricciardo who has taken
:54:39. > :54:44.the opportunity to get past the Ferrari. Hamilton is still the man
:54:45. > :54:51.leading the Grand Prix. Hamilton from Rosberg, it is still Alonso in

:54:59. > :55:03.in six where he started for Williams and Raikkonen behind, it is Bianchi
:55:04. > :55:11.in trouble with damage to his right rear. Presumably that was the

:55:17. > :55:24.We know that the Pirelli tyres with the wrong angle of contact art
:55:25. > :55:27.susceptible. Rosberg very close, I wondered if he might mount a
:55:28. > :55:34.challenge but Hamilton is leading at the end of the opening lap. Hamilton
:55:35. > :55:38.from Rosberg and then a gap to Sebastian Vettel, Alonso in fourth
:55:39. > :55:50.place, Ricciardo in fifth place, Bottas, Raikkonen, Jenson Button
:55:51. > :55:55.intense. -- in 10th place. There is no DRS at this stage. Rosberg has a
:55:56. > :56:02.clean run and I believe he will be in the slipstream coming up the top
:56:03. > :56:07.of the hill. Hamilton has to go defensive. Rosberg looks looks up
:56:08. > :56:14.the outside. A little touch and it has damaged the front wing of
:56:15. > :56:20.Rosberg! He has punted Hamilton. He is off! Trying to stay out of the
:56:21. > :56:25.way of everybody else and Rosberg has taken advantage. The contact
:56:26. > :56:30.between them. We will need to see if Rosberg needs a new front wing but
:56:31. > :56:33.that is the worst place for Hamilton to get a puncture. RADIO: Nick
:56:34. > :56:48.O'Hern me. -- Nico hit me. I think we have seen Rosberg with a
:56:49. > :56:52.strategy knowing he has to be aggressive, he has to get the upper
:56:53. > :56:59.hand in wheel-to-wheel racing. He tried to come around the outside to
:57:00. > :57:03.position himself on the inside. Hamilton has taken his racing line,
:57:04. > :57:08.I don't believe there was any malice in it. He felt he needed to be
:57:09. > :57:16.aggressive. It looked like it would cost only him but we now know that
:57:17. > :57:24.the big loser is Hamilton. Would you put that down as a racing incident?
:57:25. > :57:28.Yes, I don't believe Rosberg was trying anything other than to get
:57:29. > :57:32.into position. Hamilton has done that with some success this year
:57:33. > :57:38.against Rosberg. Rosberg will have to take responsibility within the
:57:39. > :57:45.team. It is nothing other than a racing incident. Nico says he has
:57:46. > :57:52.got problems but the team are telling him to keep going. He has
:57:53. > :57:58.damaged his front wing. He is leading, Sebastian Vettel in second
:57:59. > :58:02.place, Alonso in third position. But he has been given a five second
:58:03. > :58:06.penalty. He does not have to take it until he gets to his pit stop full
:58:07. > :58:11.stop he will stay out but his first pit stop will have five seconds
:58:12. > :58:17.added to it. Incomes Lewis Hamilton with that shredded tire. He has
:58:18. > :58:24.damaged the rear of the car as well. The flaw is all broken so he
:58:25. > :58:31.will have aerodynamic issues as well and he will be furious. Toto Wolff,
:58:32. > :58:32.Paddy Lowe, one of the board of directors of Daimler is here as
:58:33. > :58:53.well. That will be a frosty debrief. RADIO: I lost a lot of front end. We
:58:54. > :58:57.advise you to hang it out. A real chance for those behind because
:58:58. > :59:02.Rosberg is struggling with a loss of front downforce and you can see that
:59:03. > :59:06.Vettel sees eight situation he can profit from. We have a couple of
:59:07. > :59:15.cars stopped and out with debris down the. Could they put a safety
:59:16. > :59:19.car out? It is Hamilton's tire. It is through Blanchimont, one of the
:59:20. > :59:23.fastest parts of the track and I don't think anybody would criticise
:59:24. > :59:30.them if a safety car was sent out to remove that. Andre Lotterer is
:59:31. > :59:43.stopped on track and also Pastor Maldonado is out already. We have
:59:44. > :59:50.lost a couple of cars early on. But it is in eighth place behind the
:59:51. > :59:55.Williams. McLaren, then Williams, then Force India full. The smoke
:59:56. > :00:03.that comes from the back of the car is a flaw. Ricciardo passes Alonso,
:00:04. > :00:09.DRS is in operation. He has used that to best effect. It has enabled
:00:10. > :00:14.him to get past Alonso. We have seen lots of races between these two this
:00:15. > :00:16.year, they are fighting for third place in the drivers World
:00:17. > :00:24.Championship. Alonso trying to come back and he cannot do it around the
:00:25. > :00:28.outside of Rivard. I can see on the paddock tracker there is a big
:00:29. > :00:32.conversation going on between Toto Wolff and Paddy Lowe. We will need
:00:33. > :00:38.to have a look at some photos, Lewis, thanks for the feedback, let
:00:39. > :00:42.me know. Keeping calm, but Lewis confirming that the flaw is damage,
:00:43. > :00:46.it has a huge effect on the aerodynamics of the car, the amount
:00:47. > :00:50.of downforce it creates and the grid through the high-speed corners.
:00:51. > :00:54.Fernando Alonso having lost a place to Daniel Ricciardo. The two Red
:00:55. > :01:01.Bulls will be together virtually in the fight for second as they try to
:01:02. > :01:06.catch up to Nico Rosberg. Only .8 the second is the gap that Rosberg
:01:07. > :01:09.has over Vettel the moment. Further back Valtteri Bottas going quickly,
:01:10. > :01:13.he has been faster than anybody else there. He will come under threat
:01:14. > :01:19.from the Mercedes powered car of Valtteri Bottas. All is not lost in
:01:20. > :01:22.terms of scoring points for Hamilton, he is a minute behind the
:01:23. > :01:27.race leader, in a car that is considerably quicker than the
:01:28. > :01:30.competition in front of him. He has a 22nd deficit to make up to the
:01:31. > :01:37.next guy, in 18th place, Romain Grosjean. He may hope for some
:01:38. > :01:42.rain, safety cars and the like, can help bring him back in and get
:01:43. > :01:46.bigger points. Lewis said he does not know whether it is floor damage
:01:47. > :01:51.or a problem with the differential, but the car is all over the place.
:01:52. > :01:56.He has gone out on new tyres. Differential can get damaged if the
:01:57. > :02:01.tire explodes like that. The Red Bull cars trying to close the gap.
:02:02. > :02:05.Jenson Button in eighth place. Let's look at the start. Great Brett away
:02:06. > :02:15.from Lewis Hamilton after the scare of being out of position. There was
:02:16. > :02:20.no contact on the run into La Source. The damage to Bianchi
:02:21. > :02:26.happened further down, let's keep an eye on what happened as they
:02:27. > :02:30.concertina around the apex. It is on the way out that there was contact.
:02:31. > :02:39.Maldonado's front wing against Bianchi's tire. Whether it was
:02:40. > :02:45.Maldonado or Grosjean, difficult to tell from that angle, but yes. That
:02:46. > :02:49.was the runner-up. Vettel had a real chance. He did, he went for it but
:02:50. > :02:56.could not carry the momentum around the clean part of the track. Lucky
:02:57. > :03:01.to rejoin in third place. Lewis is saying on the radio, I am sliding so
:03:02. > :03:05.much that the left rear is not going to last. Hamilton struggling in 19th
:03:06. > :03:11.position. The start from the point of view of Rosberg. You can see
:03:12. > :03:16.Vettel. You will see Rosberg start to out accelerate the Red Bull as he
:03:17. > :03:19.gets to the slipstream and the run down the hill, nothing he can do in
:03:20. > :03:25.terms of positioning. They are heavy with fuel, 100 kilos on board.
:03:26. > :03:31.Vettel gets a huge launch of the line, something he has not seen too
:03:32. > :03:35.much of. He goes wide. Keeps it off the artificial grass on the
:03:36. > :03:39.left-hand side. Checking the mirrors. Lewis defending fresh air,
:03:40. > :03:48.there was nobody on his left hand side, as he went down through Eau
:03:49. > :03:50.Rouge. Using a lot of curve over the top of the hill. For a moment I
:03:51. > :03:55.thought it was barking underneath the front of the Mercedes, I think
:03:56. > :04:00.it was just a reflection from the yellow of the kerb. Hamilton,
:04:01. > :04:05.despite his woes, is going fastest. Lewis, thinking about a recovery
:04:06. > :04:08.strategy, we need to achieve 15 laps on this tire, whatever you can to
:04:09. > :04:17.manage that we're left to 15 laps, the target lap time is 55.7. The
:04:18. > :04:21.rear tyres will not make it to 15. Ricciardo has got past the gusty and
:04:22. > :04:25.better, who did not see that during the start we play. That is Andre
:04:26. > :04:34.Lotterer trudging his way back, what a shame for his race to last such a
:04:35. > :04:38.short distance on his debut. Sure he has been in this situation many
:04:39. > :04:42.times. Not sure what the problem was. On board with Fernando Alonso.
:04:43. > :04:48.Whatever happens to allow Ricciardo to get past, you wonder whether he
:04:49. > :04:56.has a problem with his car. We know Daniel had an amazing run and start
:04:57. > :05:00.to his career. Sebastien has not had the cleanest obsessions. Sebastien
:05:01. > :05:06.gets on the kerb, has a wobble, then momentum is lost. That is what
:05:07. > :05:09.allowed Ricciardo to overtake him. Sebastian Vettel not at all
:05:10. > :05:14.comfortable. This is on board Ricciardo, watch ahead, he gets
:05:15. > :05:20.wide, under the artificial grass. Again. He made a mistake. I was
:05:21. > :05:25.having a conversation before the start of the Grand Prix about how
:05:26. > :05:29.much curb Hamilton has been using around here and Vettel. The
:05:30. > :05:36.confidence they have in damp conditions to run it out. In Hungary
:05:37. > :05:40.and then here it has caught him out. Taking too much risk. Vettel loses
:05:41. > :05:44.ablaze, another mistake from Sebastian Vettel. Rosberg has opened
:05:45. > :05:49.up not much of a gap over Ricciardo, .7 of a second. Valtteri Bottas with
:05:50. > :05:54.a chance of slipstreaming to Fernando Alonso, but not quite
:05:55. > :05:56.enough, they close on Sebastian Vettel as they reached the top of
:05:57. > :06:02.the hill. On board with Valtteri Bottas, the Finn who has been so
:06:03. > :06:12.impressive one number of occasions, scoring three podium places. -- on
:06:13. > :06:17.the number of occasions. Hamilton is down in 19th position. He is running
:06:18. > :06:22.considerably quicker than the race leader, he is making good progress
:06:23. > :06:27.on the back of Grosjean, the gap is down to 14 seconds from 20 seconds a
:06:28. > :06:31.couple of laps to go. Valtteri Bottas not able to close on the
:06:32. > :06:36.Ferrari through this middle section, but it looks as though Vettel is
:06:37. > :06:38.struggling a little bit. Red Bull are running less downforce this
:06:39. > :06:44.weekend than they are used to running. It was running to wide onto
:06:45. > :06:48.that artificial grass that caught him out once again will stop we come
:06:49. > :07:04.back onto the section, turning through Blanc Shimon -- Blanchimont.
:07:05. > :07:12.Valtteri Bottas has a little sniff at Alonso. He will used ERS across
:07:13. > :07:19.the start and finish. As they run down Eau Rouge. And up the top of
:07:20. > :07:28.Raidillon. Into the braking zone at five. We are on the eighth lap of
:07:29. > :07:36.45. Alonso under pressure from Valtteri Bottas. Raikkonen is sixth,
:07:37. > :07:41.which would match is best result of the year so far. -- match his best.
:07:42. > :07:52.Valtteri uses DRS comfortably to overtake and move into fourth
:07:53. > :07:58.position. He started in six, up to fourth, is there another podium on
:07:59. > :08:01.the cards today for Valtteri Bottas? Not far behind Sebastian Vettel.
:08:02. > :08:07.Look how much closer Kimi Raikkonen is to his team-mate and we have seen
:08:08. > :08:12.on most occasions this year. Raikkonen has been looking a lot
:08:13. > :08:18.stronger this weekend. A track he has won at four times in the past.
:08:19. > :08:24.Alonso with the penalty that will serve later in the Grand Prix. Not a
:08:25. > :08:29.lucky race track for him generally. Is this the resurgence of Kimi
:08:30. > :08:34.Raikkonen? We know the new team boss has confirmed he will definitely be
:08:35. > :08:38.in the car next year. On board with Hamilton. Ricciardo was closer to
:08:39. > :08:46.Rosberg, we will watch that as well. Riding with Hamilton. Is the car
:08:47. > :08:52.behaving strangely that we can tell? We heard that they would adjust the
:08:53. > :08:59.differential when his tire was punctured. Push hard now, we are
:09:00. > :09:02.going to change the front wing. It opens up an opportunity for Daniel
:09:03. > :09:07.Ricciardo in particular. Nico Rosberg into the pits, he will have
:09:08. > :09:10.a front wing change, hitting Daniel Ricciardo into the lead at the
:09:11. > :09:16.Belgian Grand Prix. This will be interesting, normally this would
:09:17. > :09:19.happen in under three seconds, this can take around ten. See how slick
:09:20. > :09:26.the work is between the Mercedes crew. Change the nose. Raikkonen is
:09:27. > :09:30.in as well. A relatively early stop for Raikkonen. Rosberg gets going
:09:31. > :09:36.once again. Total pit lane time, normally, you expect to be around 20
:09:37. > :09:43.seconds. Relatively slow stop for Raikkonen. Another seven seconds
:09:44. > :09:47.added to the normal stop. It shows some things you cannot speed up that
:09:48. > :09:53.much. They have to get the car off the front Jack. Remove the nose,
:09:54. > :10:00.part of the whole crash structure, put the new nose on. Then released
:10:01. > :10:05.the car. Interesting, different tyre choice, Rosberg has gone out on the
:10:06. > :10:10.harder, medium compound tyre and Kimi Raikkonen has continued on the
:10:11. > :10:14.soft tyre. Reasonably Nico Rosberg is in for a longer stint at this
:10:15. > :10:19.stage of the race, he has had to come in earlier than they would have
:10:20. > :10:23.imagined. As the pit window has opened up. Ricciardo using this to
:10:24. > :10:28.open up the gap over his team-mate, Vettel, Ricciardo leading, Vettel
:10:29. > :10:38.second, Red Bull one, two, a long time since we have seen that. I
:10:39. > :10:43.wonder if it will remain that way. At the beginning of the race when
:10:44. > :10:46.your car is heavy, 100 kilograms of fuel, energy going through the
:10:47. > :10:51.rubber, the car tends to move around more. As the fuel off-loads during
:10:52. > :10:56.the Grand Prix, there is an opportunity to take the tyres
:10:57. > :11:02.longer. That is an early stop for Rosberg. Way too early, I would
:11:03. > :11:08.suggest. You would have to expect him coming in again later. At making
:11:09. > :11:12.the decision to go to that tyre. If he can make the tyres last he could
:11:13. > :11:18.go to the end. The challenge coming up on matter from Hulkenberg, making
:11:19. > :11:26.great progress. He has come past Kvyat. Hulkenberg having a very
:11:27. > :11:31.strong race. Valtteri Bottas chasing Vettel through Eau Rouge. They come
:11:32. > :11:36.through Raidillon, the right-handed part, up the rise, onto the
:11:37. > :11:40.straight. Nico Rosberg has been told he has to get past Kimi Raikkonen as
:11:41. > :11:45.soon as is in, not easy on the hard tyre. The hard tyre going on for
:11:46. > :11:49.Felipe Massa. William sometimes struggle with tyre degradation. They
:11:50. > :11:52.are one of the earlier stoppers. Sergio Perez has been in, Force
:11:53. > :11:58.India are usually good on tyres. Sergio Perez has already been into
:11:59. > :12:08.the pits, he has gone out on soft tyres. We see Fernando Alonso.
:12:09. > :12:14.Another problem from Rosberg. There was debris. I would have thought he
:12:15. > :12:20.would reach up and pull it away. It is something that you would find
:12:21. > :12:24.inside the tyre, from the damage of Hamilton or Bianchi's tyre. Why is
:12:25. > :12:29.he not removing that from flapping around his hands, it could get
:12:30. > :12:33.caught on the steering wheel. It is like a stream attached to the car.
:12:34. > :12:39.It is a lot longer than a streamer. It is attached to the small radio
:12:40. > :12:44.aerial on the front of the car. I would rather lose communication with
:12:45. > :12:49.the team and get it wrapped around my steering wheel. It must be so
:12:50. > :12:52.annoying, flapping around, getting into his vision turning through the
:12:53. > :12:57.corner thanks to the G-force. I would expect him to reach out and
:12:58. > :13:02.grab that. One of the Red Bull cars coming in, that is Vettel, Ricciardo
:13:03. > :13:08.stays out. He has come into the pits from second division. Ricciardo
:13:09. > :13:13.continues to lead. Staying with the soft tyre. Sebastian Vettel, race
:13:14. > :13:17.winner here last year, already made a mistake, and in an opportunity to
:13:18. > :13:28.his team-mate, Ricciardo. He will take full advantage of that. Also
:13:29. > :13:37.coming into the pits, Daniel corrects -- Daniil Kvyat. Looks like
:13:38. > :13:42.Rosberg is ahead of Raikkonen. Is he? Behind him still. Just ahead of
:13:43. > :13:52.him, he will have the slipstream as they come over the top.
:13:53. > :13:58.That is why he was sideways coming out of what is effectively the
:13:59. > :14:01.shorter hairpin inside La Source, he knew how close it was going to be
:14:02. > :14:07.with Raikkonen and, indeed, Toro Rosso. Is this where we pick up the
:14:08. > :14:17.debris on Rosberg? That is through Eau Rouge, through Raidillon. It was
:14:18. > :14:22.flicked up of the Sauber. You can see him reaching out, saying, I will
:14:23. > :14:28.concentrate on driving the car. It is still there, look at it, leaning
:14:29. > :14:34.the aerial over, flapping around in his face. Kimi Raikkonen has just
:14:35. > :14:39.set the fastest lap. Rosberg is in a group of traffic, behind the Vettel
:14:40. > :14:45.who has made the pit stop. There is Rosberg. He is also behind Daniil
:14:46. > :14:51.Kvyat who has just made a long pit stop.
:14:52. > :15:00.That little bit of debris we have seen thrown up, that is the reason.
:15:01. > :15:06.There is the information about Alonso's penalty as Daniel Ricciardo
:15:07. > :15:11.takes his stop. Let's see where he comes out. Alonso and Bottas have
:15:12. > :15:16.just gone around the start finish, Button passing as well. He will be
:15:17. > :15:23.just in front of Raikkonen under normal conditions. Valtteri Bottas
:15:24. > :15:29.is now leading the Grand Prix as Ricciardo comes out in front of
:15:30. > :15:35.Raikkonen. It is the other Toro Rosso that Rosberg was battling
:15:36. > :15:41.with, Jean-Eric Vergne who is yet to come in. We are on Lap 12 out of 44
:15:42. > :15:48.and what a change from what we are expecting, no Mercedes domination.
:15:49. > :15:59.We can see a bit of debris. If anybody thinks that the safety car
:16:00. > :16:06.might come out, we have seen the dangers of a high-speed puncture.
:16:07. > :16:11.That early pit stop worked well for Raikkonen, he is not far behind
:16:12. > :16:16.Ricciardo in this group and has obviously gained time. He will have
:16:17. > :16:21.to go further on one of his sets of tyres but it should help him. We
:16:22. > :16:26.will see when Bottas and Alonso come in. Alonso will have a long stop.
:16:27. > :16:30.Welcome back to Kimi Raikkonen, these were the sorts of performances
:16:31. > :16:35.we were used to seeing from him in the past. He has not been
:16:36. > :16:41.comfortable with the braking systems in the Ferrari. Maybe the
:16:42. > :16:45.opportunity to go away for a few weeks and come back to a track that
:16:46. > :16:46.he has excelled at in the past, these are the sorts of performances
:16:47. > :17:02.we were used to see from him. Today he is looking much sharper.
:17:03. > :17:08.RADIO: Is my pace OK? Update me. You asked or catching Grosjean, the only
:17:09. > :17:15.car faster than you at the moment is Bottas in P2. Alonso and Bottas both
:17:16. > :17:21.in the pits. We are expecting Ricciardo to come past and Raikkonen
:17:22. > :17:26.as well. A quick stop from Williams and of course a slow stop because
:17:27. > :17:33.Alonso had the penalty applied to his pit stop. Bottas just getting
:17:34. > :17:38.out, Alonso side-by-side with Perez but he has to give him the place,
:17:39. > :17:45.ninth position, Bottas coming out behind Rosberg. That is OK, he will
:17:46. > :17:51.get the run with the fresh tyres through Eau Rouge and be able to get
:17:52. > :17:54.into a position to overtake Perez. Has he got enough momentum to go
:17:55. > :18:02.around the outside? He doesn't go for it, he will keep it tidy and
:18:03. > :18:07.look for another opportunity. It might be difficult for Alonso to
:18:08. > :18:10.make headway. That could be a difficult car to overtake with its
:18:11. > :18:16.Mercedes powered unit but he tries around the outside, lovely move
:18:17. > :18:20.around the inside! That was magic stuff from Alonso. Absolutely
:18:21. > :18:27.brilliant and that is why he is often picked as the drivers driver.
:18:28. > :18:33.And so important to do it then, he could have got stuck for a long time
:18:34. > :18:36.otherwise. Now a change, Jenson Button is leading this Grand Prix
:18:37. > :18:43.because he has not been into the pits. Daniel Ricciardo is the
:18:44. > :18:47.effective leader. He is currently in second on the road, Raikkonen is
:18:48. > :18:52.third, Vettel is in fourth place and then Rosberg and then Bottas.
:18:53. > :18:59.Ricciardo is a bit stuck behind the other McLaren but it is in,
:19:00. > :19:05.Magnusson is in. Sorry, that was Jenson Button. There is Magnusson,
:19:06. > :19:12.wheel-to-wheel. Through the last chicane. Battling with Jean-Eric
:19:13. > :19:18.Vergne and that is for seventh place at the moment. Vergne having another
:19:19. > :19:27.look into La Source. He will have the benefit of DRS over the hill
:19:28. > :19:34.through Eau Rouge. Magnusson has broken the toe. It looks like he has
:19:35. > :19:39.got away now. Button has made that pit stop and come back out so
:19:40. > :19:43.Ricciardo is leading clearly now, they have all stopped in the lead
:19:44. > :19:52.group apart from generic firm. That is a long stint he is going for --
:19:53. > :19:58.apart from Jean-Eric Vergne. You are on the opposite tire to the cars in
:19:59. > :20:03.front of you, push hard and try to overtake. This is the test for
:20:04. > :20:09.Rosberg. He got a bit stuck in the last race particularly behind Vergne
:20:10. > :20:12.and it is those opportunities in traffic in situations like this
:20:13. > :20:16.where Hamilton is incredibly effective at passing cars and
:20:17. > :20:22.sometimes we have not always seen that from Rosberg. That is why the
:20:23. > :20:30.incident at the beginning was a bit clumsy from Nico. He wanted to put a
:20:31. > :20:38.mark the sand but it did not work out. It worked out fantastically in
:20:39. > :20:43.the championship, putting Hamilton into 16th at the moment but this
:20:44. > :20:48.should not be a big deal for him to make some passes. He has the fastest
:20:49. > :20:52.car, great straight-line speed and might even look at Vettel into the
:20:53. > :20:57.chicane but decides to stay on the safe side but he would expect to
:20:58. > :21:01.pass him on the exit of Eau Rouge. The drivers are thinking about
:21:02. > :21:08.that. I will keep tidy, I am not under threat from Bottas behind me
:21:09. > :21:11.although he is in the DRS zone, you try to concentrate on getting a
:21:12. > :21:17.great drive from La Source to carry the momentum into Eau Rouge.
:21:18. > :21:23.Normally with the speed differential and DRS, Vettel would be defenceless
:21:24. > :21:28.as they go up the hill, Kemmel Straight, up to turn five. Even
:21:29. > :21:33.though was Berg looks a long way back, the gap will reduce. He will
:21:34. > :21:39.not be close enough to effect a pass and that is what you are suggesting
:21:40. > :21:42.is a deciding factor in the World Championship. I would have expected
:21:43. > :21:47.Rosberg to have got in a better position against the Red Bull. He is
:21:48. > :21:52.on the harder tyres and does not get as much grip. Vettel taking the
:21:53. > :22:00.Alonso line, wider through the apex and cutting back. This is where the
:22:01. > :22:03.Red Bull should struggle. They are not running a lot of downforce in
:22:04. > :22:08.this middle sector, trying to do everything to get straight-line
:22:09. > :22:14.speed. It was the first time we have seen a Red Bull-Renault in the top
:22:15. > :22:20.ten in the speed traps this year in practice. Vettel doing enough to
:22:21. > :22:24.keep Rosberg behind him, Bottas behind him chasing. We lost Andre
:22:25. > :22:29.Lotterer early on, let's find out what happened.
:22:30. > :22:39.Sorry you are standing here speaking to us. What was the problem? The
:22:40. > :22:43.engine completely went off, we don't know exactly what caused it. After
:22:44. > :22:49.the race, they can tell us more about it. Really short for me, it is
:22:50. > :22:53.a shame but until now everything went well and it was an amazing
:22:54. > :22:58.experience for the weekend. I had a good start and was looking forward
:22:59. > :23:02.to the race but that is racing. Will you have another opportunity this
:23:03. > :23:10.season? We did not speak about any other opportunities. I would like to
:23:11. > :23:18.do another race to feel satisfied and completed but you can't always
:23:19. > :23:22.influence it. We lost Andre Lotterer early on in the Grand Prix and also
:23:23. > :23:27.Pastor Maldonado but everybody else is still running. In the battle
:23:28. > :23:32.between Caterham and Marussia, there is a good battle going on between
:23:33. > :23:38.Marcus Ericsson and Max Chilton, separated by just one second in 17th
:23:39. > :23:43.and 18th. But we are on board with Sebastian Vettel looking back on
:23:44. > :23:48.Nico Rosberg, Valtteri Bottas is there as well and Rosberg has been
:23:49. > :23:55.told to pass fettle to win this. -- go past Sebastian Vettel. But it
:23:56. > :23:59.will not be easy. The team have put him on the prime tyre and that is
:24:00. > :24:06.not easy, in qualifying there was up to two seconds per lap difference in
:24:07. > :24:12.performance. I would have thought the Mercedes was still more than a
:24:13. > :24:19.second a lap quicker than the Red Bull. But Sebastian Vettel keeping
:24:20. > :24:25.it tidy, we can see the visible difference in the rear wings. Look
:24:26. > :24:32.how little the rear wing is on the back of the Red Bull. If you have
:24:33. > :24:35.your hand out of the car window and it is flat there is a lot of
:24:36. > :24:41.resistance. This is an opportunity for Rosberg coming towards the bust
:24:42. > :24:47.up chicane. He looks up, goes round the outside and almost overdoes it,
:24:48. > :24:51.he could lose his place to Bottas if he is not careful but he just
:24:52. > :24:57.managed to save it. Bottas now has a little opportunity up towards La
:24:58. > :25:01.Source. Was burkas to be defensive, no way through but it is not over,
:25:02. > :25:07.they will run down the hill through Eau Rouge. Nico is just not quite as
:25:08. > :25:13.settled in close wheel-to-wheel combat. If that was Hamilton,
:25:14. > :25:17.Alonso, Ricciardo as we have seen this year, more often than not they
:25:18. > :25:23.take the advantage. Rosberg will have to defend, Bottas will have
:25:24. > :25:28.DRS. And there is the consequence of not getting it right at the chicane,
:25:29. > :25:33.it has cost Rosberg another position. Polite round of applause
:25:34. > :25:38.from the very British team Williams! Valtteri Bottas has moved past Nico
:25:39. > :25:44.Rosberg into fourth place as a result of that. Take another look at
:25:45. > :25:49.how it all came about, this was the attempted move by Rosberg
:25:50. > :25:54.initially. Sebastian Vettel defends as the is allowed to and Rosberg
:25:55. > :25:59.locks up, doesn't make the pass, could be some damage to the front
:26:00. > :26:04.left tyre. The approach speed will be 200 mph to the braking zone so
:26:05. > :26:09.you can imagine the amount of energy going into a hot spot. He gets away
:26:10. > :26:16.with it, he was able to let the car roll but the consequence was that
:26:17. > :26:20.Bottas was in position to use the DRS over the hill in Eau Rouge.
:26:21. > :26:25.Rosberg dropping back now. That caller they have just gone through,
:26:26. > :26:29.Vettel being told by his race engineer to respect track limits, he
:26:30. > :26:36.is running quite wide, that must have come from the FIA. Bottas has a
:26:37. > :26:41.good run, does he have a go? He does not try, just looks for another
:26:42. > :26:46.opportunity and this is costing Rosberg and potentially a victory of
:26:47. > :26:50.the Belgian com pre-. What about Hamilton? He is in 16th place. --
:26:51. > :26:56.Belgian Grand Prix will stop. Respect the track limit in turn 15
:26:57. > :27:16.police. -- please. Bottas is in a quicker car in the
:27:17. > :27:28.straight line. You can see the difference in speed. He was able to
:27:29. > :27:33.close up the gap. This strategy from Red Bull of going with a low rear
:27:34. > :27:37.wing is making the card not as quick as it can be over the entire lap but
:27:38. > :27:43.it gives them a position to defend as Hamilton comes in. Hamilton
:27:44. > :27:49.making his second pit stop. The first after a puncture from contact
:27:50. > :27:55.with Rosberg. There has been no investigation into that incident. In
:27:56. > :27:59.recent races we have heard that the stewards are to be more relaxed
:28:00. > :28:03.about what might be a racing incident, not investigating every
:28:04. > :28:11.single incident that occurs and no sign of a penalty. In the past they
:28:12. > :28:17.probably would have done something. But clearly Rosberg penalised
:28:18. > :28:24.himself, his decision has penalised Hamilton much more with the
:28:25. > :28:28.puncture. But we want them to have a go. Mercedes are allowing them to
:28:29. > :28:35.and it is good that the stewards have let this go. The fallout will
:28:36. > :28:40.be interesting afterwards to see how Mercedes manage it and what the
:28:41. > :28:47.drivers have to say. I get the feeling that Nico had wound himself
:28:48. > :28:54.up, having to prove a point to show Lewis he was prepared to go
:28:55. > :28:57.wheel-to-wheel. The strategy of the team going on the prime tyre has
:28:58. > :29:03.made it difficult for Nico. What do they know that we don't that they
:29:04. > :29:09.felt the need to put it on so early? Did they feel they were in a
:29:10. > :29:14.position to make it last? We will see, he has done ten laps on it so
:29:15. > :29:20.far. Raikkonen is second, Ricciardo is opening up a lead right now, it
:29:21. > :29:23.is up to 6.2 seconds. Mercado leading for Red Bull, Raikkonen in
:29:24. > :29:28.his best position all season since his return to Ferrari -- Ricciardo
:29:29. > :29:44.is leading for Red Bull. Behind them, Kevin Magnussen in the
:29:45. > :29:48.McLaren. Fernando Alonso, after the long pit stop he had earlier which
:29:49. > :30:00.she had to have because his team members were still on the grid...
:30:01. > :30:09.RADIO: Vibration is on limit. They obviously have a vibration sensor.
:30:10. > :30:15.Remember when we had Kimi Raikkonen with McLaren, he had a flat spot
:30:16. > :30:19.that left him out. The frequency of the vibration saw the entire front
:30:20. > :30:24.suspension explode in the first turn. These cars are designed for
:30:25. > :30:32.tolerances, but do not carry extra weight around the area. This was
:30:33. > :30:37.expected to be an opportunity for Williams. Still early days as we see
:30:38. > :30:43.Rosberg heading for the pits. They have decided the vibration is too
:30:44. > :30:48.much. A shorter stint than I expected on the harder tyre. It
:30:49. > :30:53.looks the wrong tyre right now, he has flat spotted it. What issue do
:30:54. > :30:58.they have with the option? Put Hamilton back out on the option.
:30:59. > :31:03.They have put him on the harder tyres again, is he trying to go a
:31:04. > :31:07.long way? That would be an awfully long way on the medium compound
:31:08. > :31:12.tyre. Its performance would go away hugely towards the end. Prediction
:31:13. > :31:23.was to see Valtteri Bottas close on Vettel. The car gets lighter, less
:31:24. > :31:28.fuel, less energy for him to attract. The Pirelli tyre during the
:31:29. > :31:33.Grand Prix gets impregnated into the gaps in the tarmac and generates its
:31:34. > :31:37.own grip. Valtteri Bottas not quite all over the gearbox of Vettel, but
:31:38. > :31:46.this is a great corner, let's stick with this and listen. RADIO: Save
:31:47. > :31:50.energy, guys. Don't worry, it is being discussed, your pace is good,
:31:51. > :31:55.you never know what will happen with safety cars later, let's keep
:31:56. > :32:03.plugging away. Sounds like Hamilton is mentally pulling up the white
:32:04. > :32:07.flag, in 17th place. He is seven tenths quicker than Daniel
:32:08. > :32:15.Ricciardo, but a good 73 seconds behind the race leader. From Danelle
:32:16. > :32:19.Kvyat, he has 38 seconds to make up. The comment from Hamilton was we
:32:20. > :32:24.have to think about the engine. He is referring to the limited number
:32:25. > :32:29.of engines they have to use through the year. Why put extra energy on an
:32:30. > :32:33.engine they will race for the rest of the season if there is no chance
:32:34. > :32:38.of getting points, that is his thought process. The team saying,
:32:39. > :32:43.let's see what happens, there may be opportunities. Rosberg quicker with
:32:44. > :32:48.the new set of tyres. Rosberg is down in 10th place after a second
:32:49. > :32:55.pit stop. Ricciardo continues to lead the Belgian Grand Prix. 3-1 in
:32:56. > :33:04.Canada and hungry, 7.7 second lead over Raikkonen in Ferrari. Magnusson
:33:05. > :33:08.moves up to fifth place. Courtesy of Rosberg's pit stop. Alonso sixth,
:33:09. > :33:13.but in seventh. Sergio Perez in eighth place. Rosberg is in ninth
:33:14. > :33:19.position. Danelle Kvyat in ten, Chase down by Nico Hulkenberg in his
:33:20. > :33:27.Force India. Massa is having a tough day, not featuring. He is 12th
:33:28. > :33:31.position. Sutil is 30. Then Vergne. Grosjean soldiering on in the Lotus.
:33:32. > :33:38.Hamilton in 16 and Ericsson ahead of children by 1.1 second. Into the
:33:39. > :33:44.chicane, Hamilton down the inside of Toro Rosso. Not making it difficult
:33:45. > :33:49.for him. Let's look at Fernando Alonso trying to get past Kevin
:33:50. > :33:52.Magnussen. This is for fifth place. Alonso making up for the penalty he
:33:53. > :33:57.had to serve, which way is he going to go? Magnusson is slow at this
:33:58. > :34:05.point, they are on the same tyres, but Alonso much quicker than
:34:06. > :34:10.Magnusson in his McLaren. His first year of Formula One driving for
:34:11. > :34:15.Magnusson against the double world champion. I was going to say the man
:34:16. > :34:21.you can see in the background is Jenson Button. He will be watching
:34:22. > :34:26.this battle. Does his future depend on finishing in front of his
:34:27. > :34:32.team-mate, Magnusson? Into the box at the end of this lap. A slightly
:34:33. > :34:37.delayed message, Raikkonen is in the pit right now as Alonso tries to get
:34:38. > :34:42.lined up to pass Magnusson. Will he go into La Source? If Magnusson goes
:34:43. > :34:46.defensive, it will compromise his exit, making him vulnerable on the
:34:47. > :34:52.run down to Eau Rouge. Wide of the apex, Alonso has a good
:34:53. > :35:01.opportunity. Just get it out of reach. Let's listen to Alonso.
:35:02. > :35:06.RADIO: It sounded like they were flat. As he lost downforce through
:35:07. > :35:13.the middle of Eau Rouge, he is still going to catch Magnusson because of
:35:14. > :35:19.the DRS. Magnusson goes defensive. That is what you call a moment,
:35:20. > :35:23.ladies and gentlemen. The next corner is coming up. He went down
:35:24. > :35:30.the outside of this one earlier, can he do the same? He loves the outside
:35:31. > :35:36.line. Not this time. Not on this occasion. Close stuff, wonderful.
:35:37. > :35:42.But this is playing into the hands of Jenson Button, he will be edging
:35:43. > :35:47.onto the back of Alonso. I think when we get the camera shot from
:35:48. > :35:52.outside the car, expect to see McLaren close to the gearbox of that
:35:53. > :35:59.Ferrari. Felipe Massa has been into the pit and is back out on track, so
:36:00. > :36:09.is Adrian Sutil. Enjoying this fight between Alonso and Magnusson. Tries
:36:10. > :36:16.to get a good exit. Alonso stopped one lap later than Kevin Magnussen.
:36:17. > :36:27.RADIO: Box, box, box, talk one and box. Sebastian Vettel will be coming
:36:28. > :36:32.into the pit. In the old days that used to be flat out will stop
:36:33. > :36:37.Sebastian Vettel in there. He is going on to the harder compound
:36:38. > :36:42.tyres. We have 21 laps remaining. It is possible he can do the rest of
:36:43. > :36:46.the Grand Prix on those tyres, you would think. It is presumably what
:36:47. > :36:54.Red Bull will be trying to do. Upfront Daniel Ricciardo as a gap of
:36:55. > :36:58.14 seconds to Valtteri Bottas. He has done an exceptional job on
:36:59. > :37:03.attract with the pressure release coming into it. It was all about
:37:04. > :37:11.damage limitation. We may be backing him for an opportunity to go for the
:37:12. > :37:16.win. But is dicing with Rosberg. Rosberg just got past him. Was Berg,
:37:17. > :37:21.Hunt, in that group on a fresh set of tyres, he has got past Bottom,
:37:22. > :37:25.bearing down on Alonso. Raikkonen into the back of vision behind
:37:26. > :37:30.Button, a tasty little battle here between the champion elect and three
:37:31. > :37:34.guys who have picked up World Championships in their careers so
:37:35. > :37:40.far. Raikkonen has made his second pit stop, he is now at the back of
:37:41. > :37:44.this group, they will not want to lose much time behind them.
:37:45. > :37:49.Ricciardo leading this Grand Prix, having just made one stop so far. Is
:37:50. > :37:53.that a problem for Rosberg or did he pass an area where he had to get
:37:54. > :37:58.position back? He let Button back through. It was as if Rosberg
:37:59. > :38:03.allowed him through and has Kimi Raikkonen behind. Possibly that is
:38:04. > :38:08.the case, we might have a look at that. But Rosberg suddenly slowed a
:38:09. > :38:12.little bit. Enough to allow Jenson Button to pass as if Rosberg was
:38:13. > :38:17.just letting him through. A shake of the head from Toto Wolff. He is not
:38:18. > :38:23.sure. We gather it might be about track limit is. He is coming back on
:38:24. > :38:29.button again. Not quite there on the inside to make the move into the
:38:30. > :38:34.corners. Kevin Magnussen in fourth. His second and presumably final pit
:38:35. > :38:43.stop of the day. Daniel Ricciardo still out there, leading this Grand
:38:44. > :38:48.Prix. Raikkonen does not get a great drive off La Source, in his mind he
:38:49. > :38:54.will think, Rosberg will line up to pass Button, I have to see if I can
:38:55. > :39:00.pull up alongside. Look how slow the Ferrari was on the rundown Eau
:39:01. > :39:04.Rouge. Often earlier in the year... Easy pass, Button does not even try
:39:05. > :39:09.to defend it. Raikkonen having a great race, but incredibly slow in a
:39:10. > :39:15.straight line. In Austria the team said, you have to go quicker, he
:39:16. > :39:19.said you have to give me more power. Our Ferrari cutting back already?
:39:20. > :39:26.Are they fewer limited? This is where Rosberg pulls over, allowing
:39:27. > :39:30.Jenson Button on the left. That was smart, not allowing the Ferrari to
:39:31. > :39:34.gain advantage. This is a track where they are fewer limited, 100
:39:35. > :39:38.kilos limit, not so much Mercedes because they have incredible fuel
:39:39. > :39:42.efficiency. Ferrari are known to be hard on fuel consumption. You were
:39:43. > :39:48.speaking to the guy that Ferrari, that first sector where Kimi seemed
:39:49. > :39:53.to be losing pace, that was their worry, wasn't it? David is on the
:39:54. > :39:58.money about the fuel efficiency, they are having to save fuel at this
:39:59. > :40:02.stage. They have been playing with downforce levels all weekend, they
:40:03. > :40:08.were looking to go with less downforce at the rear for the race,
:40:09. > :40:11.but the downfall prior to qualifying made them go with this big rear
:40:12. > :40:19.wing, stopping them through sector one. As David said, coming out of La
:40:20. > :40:24.Source, Fernando Alonso is 12 slower than Nico Rosberg. Raikkonen
:40:25. > :40:30.battling away with Button. Raikkonen has managed to nip in front of
:40:31. > :40:35.Jenson Button. He is on fresh tyres. An important move to get through.
:40:36. > :40:38.Behind them, closing up in the background, the Red Bull of
:40:39. > :40:44.Sebastian Vettel as well. I wonder if there might be a chance for him
:40:45. > :40:48.to join in the fun and games. Alonso and Rosberg heads down through Eau
:40:49. > :40:53.Rouge. A chance for Rosberg to pass the primary. He has had a very quick
:40:54. > :41:00.run through Eau Rouge, massive extra speed. Look at the figures on
:41:01. > :41:06.screen. Never any doubt that Rosberg was going to get past. It puts him
:41:07. > :41:11.into third place now. I wonder if he has used DRS as a handicap system.
:41:12. > :41:15.Rather than if you have straight-line advantage right away,
:41:16. > :41:19.you should be allowed to use it. It would be a great way to help those
:41:20. > :41:24.who do not have the aero efficiency, used DRS to bring you back in. A
:41:25. > :41:34.race between Rosberg and Ricardo for the win. -- Ricciardo. Ask Charlie
:41:35. > :41:38.if that pass was OK! Rosberg worried about every little thing because of
:41:39. > :41:41.having to give up a place early on. A race full of incident. He lost the
:41:42. > :41:46.streamer that was on the car earlier. After contact with his
:41:47. > :41:50.team-mate, damage to the front wing, nose change, pit stop, it is all
:41:51. > :41:54.happening for Nico Rosberg. He is not out of the race, he is 25
:41:55. > :41:59.seconds behind Ricciardo, who still has to make a pit stop. It would
:42:00. > :42:03.bring the gap down to five or six seconds and Rosberg, presumably,
:42:04. > :42:07.still with a slightly faster car. There we have seen, Red Bull is in
:42:08. > :42:12.pretty good shape this weekend, better than expected. The team of
:42:13. > :42:16.Red Bull catching Mercedes and McLaren in straight-line speed is
:42:17. > :42:21.not something we are used to seeing. Was going around the outside of the
:42:22. > :42:29.braking zone. Remember a few years ago, underbraking, he turned right
:42:30. > :42:35.into a McLaren. Past Bottom. In what they thought was a compromise,
:42:36. > :42:44.Alonso comes in for his stop, slick work from the Ferrari crew. -- asked
:42:45. > :42:48.Button. -- he passed Button. He will be behind Magnusson, in front of
:42:49. > :42:53.Peres. Magnusson and Hulkenberg have descended down towards Eau Rouge.
:42:54. > :42:57.Hulkenberg yet to make his second stop. Peres has made a second stop
:42:58. > :43:05.already. Still Jenson Button chasing here. RADIO: you are PIII Ontrack,
:43:06. > :43:09.Bottas and Ricciardo have not stopped yet, Bottas will come out
:43:10. > :43:15.behind you but we want to do something different to them. Push as
:43:16. > :43:25.hard as you can to force Ricciardo to block us. I think the cat is out
:43:26. > :43:30.of the bag. -- to box. It is a bluff! Maybe, we will have to see.
:43:31. > :43:34.Nico Rosberg currently in third position and looking to try and win
:43:35. > :43:42.this race despite the various dramas he has been through. Nico Hulkenberg
:43:43. > :43:46.coming through. Chased by Magnusson. McLaren and Force India separated by
:43:47. > :43:50.one point in the Constructors' Championship. Button in sixth place,
:43:51. > :43:55.Hulkenberg is eighth. Magnusson ninth and Peres tent. Similar
:43:56. > :44:03.performances in this Grand Prix so far. -- Sergio Perez in 10th place.
:44:04. > :44:07.On Thursday he said I think you will find the Renault is a lot better
:44:08. > :44:13.than people give it credit for. That is the proof of the pudding. Sorry
:44:14. > :44:17.to come in there, I saw the circuit tracker we have in the commentary
:44:18. > :44:21.box, Niki Lauda and Toto Wolff going to the back of the Mercedes garage
:44:22. > :44:25.for a chat, they have taken a night of what is happening on the
:44:26. > :44:29.racetrack. They feel they need a discussion, maybe you can do some
:44:30. > :44:30.eavesdropping and get back to us. I will turn my microphone on and hang
:44:31. > :44:33.around. eavesdropping and get back to us. I
:44:34. > :44:39.will turn my microphone on Kevin Magnussen, Magnusson making the
:44:40. > :44:43.move. Hulkenberg is yet to make a second stop. He is on tyres that
:44:44. > :44:50.have done quite a lot of mileage. He has done... Medium compound tyre, he
:44:51. > :44:53.has done 16 laps on these tyres. He is looking for an opportunity when
:44:54. > :44:57.he gets onto the soft tyre to see what he can do with the last part of
:44:58. > :45:01.the Grand Prix. We are on board with Nico Hulkenberg, his ambition is to
:45:02. > :45:05.get points. At the moment he is fighting for seventh place with
:45:06. > :45:15.Magnusson. He has DRS, but he cannot make use of it. You are supposed to
:45:16. > :45:24.make your intentions clear to avoid any chance of contact between the
:45:25. > :45:27.cars. Hulkenberg will get dropped now as Magnusson has better tyres in
:45:28. > :45:33.the middle of the lap. Looking at the time gaps, Bottas is only eight
:45:34. > :45:43.seconds in front of Rosberg so he will go behind him when he stops.
:45:44. > :45:50.Ricciardo is 23.6 seconds ahead, should be able to get out in front
:45:51. > :45:58.of Rosberg. I have no downforce. Message understood. You do have good
:45:59. > :46:04.pace and if we had a safety car, there is all to fight for. Keep your
:46:05. > :46:11.head down, let's keep plugging away. Daniel Ricciardo makes his pit
:46:12. > :46:18.stop, 2.8 seconds and he rejoins the hind Valtteri Bottas who is yet to
:46:19. > :46:24.make his second stop but it is the gap between Ricciardo and Rosberg
:46:25. > :46:32.that is key. Rosberg looks to be about three seconds behind
:46:33. > :46:39.Ricciardo. There he is with those fresh tyres. Red Bull are getting
:46:40. > :46:44.the straight-line speed this weekend. The pace of Ricciardo will
:46:45. > :46:54.be interesting on a brand-new set of the harder tyres whereas Rosberg has
:46:55. > :47:03.done eight laps on his. An opportunity for Bottas with some
:47:04. > :47:06.clean air in front of him. But he will make another pit stop soon and
:47:07. > :47:12.at that stage he will drop in the order. The question is where he will
:47:13. > :47:17.come out. He could be in that group again with the likes of the battle,
:47:18. > :47:24.perhaps Raikkonen, he has to watch out for them. Still waiting for
:47:25. > :47:26.Button to make his second stop so Magnusson is effectively quite a way
:47:27. > :47:40.up the road from his team-mate. Box this lap. Where will the
:47:41. > :47:46.Williams rejoin? It will release Ricciardo, good timing for him
:47:47. > :47:51.because he will be in clear air as he tries to open a gap over Nico
:47:52. > :47:56.Rosberg. Bottas comes in, Ricciardo is leading once again and Nico
:47:57. > :48:02.Rosberg is now chasing. The gap between them as they come across the
:48:03. > :48:07.line is exactly three seconds. Three seconds. 3.5 seconds. You were
:48:08. > :48:13.pretty close with your assessment. Bottas needs a quick stop to see
:48:14. > :48:17.where he comes out in a Laois and to Raikkonen and Vettel. -- in relation
:48:18. > :48:28.to. Vettel has gone through so he
:48:29. > :48:32.rejoins ahead of Jenson Button who still has to make another pit stop.
:48:33. > :48:40.Bottas on a fresh set of tyres on the medium, harder compound. Most
:48:41. > :48:47.people around him on the same type. Button finishing off his stint on
:48:48. > :48:54.the soft tyre and he will come in soon. Can Bottas close the gap once
:48:55. > :49:00.more to those ahead? Sebastian Vettel will be his main target.
:49:01. > :49:05.Ricciardo against Rosberg for the lead, Raikkonen in third place
:49:06. > :49:11.having been passed by Nico Rosberg. Has Rosberg got the pace in the car
:49:12. > :49:19.that took pole position yesterday to close that gap on wiki are though?
:49:20. > :49:33.-- on Ricciardo. What tyres does Rosberg have? Ten lap prime.
:49:34. > :49:42.Is he going for victory here? Fresh tyres on the Red Bull. Is that
:49:43. > :49:48.enough for Ricciardo to maintain this edge? It remains to be seen but
:49:49. > :49:55.Red Bull are in a fantastic position. It is the first time this
:49:56. > :50:01.year we have seen them mixing it with the Mercedes powered cars.
:50:02. > :50:06.Somehow Daniel Ricciardo is getting the cart through the middle sector,
:50:07. > :50:17.not the fastest but he will not be overtaken -- the car.
:50:18. > :50:26.He will slowly climb up to 200 mph. This is one of the hardest tracks on
:50:27. > :50:32.the power units. If they are flat through Eau Rouge, it becomes the
:50:33. > :50:39.longest wide open throttle section in Formula One, flat out for 23
:50:40. > :50:43.seconds. And there is also this vertical loading. These power units
:50:44. > :50:48.have not experienced this Grand Prix, we have to think about
:50:49. > :50:55.reliability as well. It might be something that concerns Renault
:50:56. > :51:00.more. Looking at the speed trap at the top of Eau Rouge, Ricciardo is
:51:01. > :51:05.consistently faster than Rosberg. That would suggest that Rosberg has
:51:06. > :51:07.to lift going through the bottom which could be a consequence of
:51:08. > :51:19.getting better drive down the hill. We are still able to win this race,
:51:20. > :51:27.you need to close the gap to Ricciardo. The gap was 3.3 seconds
:51:28. > :51:34.last time. This is Vettel against Bottas who has caught the Red Bull
:51:35. > :51:37.pretty quickly. But he sat behind Sebastian Vettel are quite a long
:51:38. > :51:41.time earlier and this will not be easy. The Red Bull is so much
:51:42. > :51:45.quicker in a straight line this easy. The Red Bull is so much
:51:46. > :51:53.weekend and despite that Mercedes horsepower in the Williams, it will
:51:54. > :51:53.not be easy but he is close. Vettel confident he
:51:54. > :52:04.defensive but Bottas will get the advantage of a couple of DRS zones
:52:05. > :52:08.to effect a pass. This is all about fourth position at moment. Max
:52:09. > :52:17.Chilton has made his second stop as world. Still Marcus Ericsson leading
:52:18. > :52:23.the Caterham Marussia group. We lost Andre Lotterer early on. Only two
:52:24. > :52:28.cars out so far, Lotterer and Maldonado. Can task now slipstream
:52:29. > :52:33.past Sebastian Vettel and Maldonado. Can task now slipstream
:52:34. > :52:35.fourth position? Vettel goes Maldonado. Can task now slipstream
:52:36. > :52:40.defensive, Bottas on the outside. Side-by-side and he is through!
:52:41. > :52:44.Lovely move and he did just enough, Vettel could not fight him off and a
:52:45. > :52:49.big round of applause in the Williams Pitt once again as Bottas
:52:50. > :52:56.shows what he can do among the best in the world.
:52:57. > :52:59.shows what he can do among the best cool. He is a calm, collected
:53:00. > :53:03.driver, growing in confidence and doing a great job with Williams and
:53:04. > :53:09.putting Massa under pressure this season. That is the conversation
:53:10. > :53:14.between Toto Wolff and Niki Lauda and a member of the board of
:53:15. > :53:19.directors of Daimler there, obviously very much involved as we
:53:20. > :53:26.are on board with Hamilton. What's going on? We are talking through the
:53:27. > :53:31.options, Lewis, but it will not be long. Hamilton in 15th place. After
:53:32. > :53:35.qualifying from the back with Robins with the car in the last few
:53:36. > :53:41.concrete and yet coming through to get a podium, it is a different
:53:42. > :53:47.story when you lose all that time -- problems with the car. He has not
:53:48. > :53:52.been able to make it up. He would have had to have driven around
:53:53. > :54:00.slowly for about three miles of this track, the worst place possible.
:54:01. > :54:06.Damage to the floor takes away the whole efficiency of the car.
:54:07. > :54:11.Upfront, Daniel Ricciardo and Rosberg in the background, he has
:54:12. > :54:18.closed the gap by half a second over the last couple of laps. Worryingly
:54:19. > :54:23.for Ricciardo, he is running close to his fastest lap of the race and
:54:24. > :54:28.Rosberg is well over a second slower than what he has managed. The
:54:29. > :54:34.potential in the Mercedes to deliver a faster lap is clearly there. This
:54:35. > :54:38.is Jenson Button, he may have a chance on Perez.
:54:39. > :54:50.Box, box, going to the prime time. Hamilton coming in but Button has
:54:51. > :54:55.got past the force in the and in that constructors race, that is
:54:56. > :55:01.crucial. Hamilton comes in. A problem with the engagement. That
:55:02. > :55:08.surprises me, I would have thought he would be ready for the launch.
:55:09. > :55:13.These pit stops now, some are under three seconds and there is no time
:55:14. > :55:17.for the driver to select neutral. In the days of refuelling, you did not
:55:18. > :55:27.want to risk burning the clutch so you go to neutral and reselect first
:55:28. > :55:30.gear. Lewis definitely not as motivated in his voice in the
:55:31. > :55:35.conversation with his team and it looks like it will be extremely
:55:36. > :55:38.difficult to recover. Never say never but extremely difficult.
:55:39. > :55:47.Ricciardo opened the gap up slightly, it is up to 3.6 seconds
:55:48. > :55:51.over Rosberg in his attempt to stay in front. Rosberg not catching as
:55:52. > :55:55.quickly as you might expect. Raikkonen in third, we are going to
:55:56. > :56:02.have a battle between the two Finnish drivers because Raikkonen is
:56:03. > :56:07.being caught by Valtteri Bottas. That is between third and fourth.
:56:08. > :56:13.Very good throttle application, a very good job. Super important tyre
:56:14. > :56:21.management. Perez is fighting with Button. And Daniil Kvyat is in 10th
:56:22. > :56:26.place at the moment. Felipe Massa it is still outside, seven seconds
:56:27. > :56:32.behind Kvyat, Hulkenberg is 12 after making his second stop but has just
:56:33. > :56:39.done a personal fastest lap. Sutil is in 13th place, no sign of any
:56:40. > :56:43.points for Sauber, Vergne is 14th, Hamilton is further down after
:56:44. > :56:47.making his pit stop so Gutierrez is into 15th place with Hamilton 16. Do
:56:48. > :56:54.you think your tyres will last to the end? It is difficult to say.
:56:55. > :56:59.They don't feel very good now. That is interesting, Rosberg has done
:57:00. > :57:06.more laps on his medium compound tyres than Vettel has done. You
:57:07. > :57:10.wonder whether Rosberg will be able to stay out on his tyres, he will
:57:11. > :57:15.have done a lot of laps and that may be a concern. But more downforce on
:57:16. > :57:21.the Mercedes which means less sliding around and friction on the
:57:22. > :57:23.tarmac. It is like and a razor on your pencil, if you use the rubber,
:57:24. > :57:38.it is no longer there -- an eraser. The surface of the rubber goes and
:57:39. > :57:42.you start to struggle with temperature and controlling the
:57:43. > :57:46.performance of the tire. We saw Marcus Ericsson going through and
:57:47. > :57:51.Max Chilton, that gap is now 6.4 seconds and Ericsson is having one
:57:52. > :57:56.of his best performances of the year but Chilton was a second quicker on
:57:57. > :58:01.the last lap. Kimi Raikkonen in the Ferrari.
:58:02. > :58:12.Romain Grosjean went off at Turn 4, he rejoined but clearly Lotus feel
:58:13. > :58:15.there is not a lot of point in continuing, they are outside the
:58:16. > :58:21.points. They have been through a lot of engines so far this year and when
:58:22. > :58:26.you get to a stage in the season if you use a sixth element in the power
:58:27. > :58:31.unit, you get a penalty. If you limit mileage at this stage, you
:58:32. > :58:41.might put that off. Bottas has the gap to just under two seconds.
:58:42. > :58:46.Raikkonen responding. Raikkonen not wanting to give up the chance of a
:58:47. > :58:52.podium here. Crucially, Daniel Ricciardo is maintaining that gap to
:58:53. > :58:56.Rosberg at about 3.5 seconds. He is just over 40 miles away from what
:58:57. > :59:02.could be the win of all winds around the mighty Spa. He has done that all
:59:03. > :59:10.season! Canada, Hungary and again here. But there is still a little
:59:11. > :59:17.way to go, ten laps of Spa is worth 20 at most other tracks! Grosjean
:59:18. > :59:23.has come into the pits now and he is heading for retirement. The
:59:24. > :59:27.Frenchman pulls his Lotus into the pits and it is all over for both
:59:28. > :59:34.cars now after they lost Maldonado earlier on. A tough season for
:59:35. > :59:37.Romain Grosjean, such a contender but now Rosberg has come in, those
:59:38. > :59:41.tyres were not good enough to get him to the end and this makes life
:59:42. > :59:46.interesting because he will drop behind Kimi Raikkonen I believe who
:59:47. > :59:57.is just going round La Source as you can see. Bottas is in, as a Vettel.
:59:58. > :00:00.Long stints required, the medium compound tyre not delivering the
:00:01. > :00:05.length of stint they were hoping for. Bottas has a chance with
:00:06. > :00:10.Rosberg, can he make it work? So important, who will end up in front?
:00:11. > :00:15.To me Raikkonen ahead. Bottas sweeps through, has the additional speed.
:00:16. > :00:23.Rosberg straight out of the pit. Will he stay there? Will Daniel
:00:24. > :00:26.Ricciardo respond to that? Normally with fresh tyres Rosberg would be

:00:32. > :00:34.Bottas, he will not be advantage. He is being held behind
:00:35. > :00:41.Bottas, he will not able to exploit the performance, full engine mode,
:00:42. > :00:46.brand-new set of boots, and put Ricciardo under pressure. He has

:01:07. > :01:11.several teams to put Mercedes in their place for once, not just Red
:01:12. > :01:17.Bull. Williams under pressure. He will slide through straightaway on
:01:18. > :01:22.the inside of Blanchimont. He has so much more grip available to him on
:01:23. > :01:33.those brand-new soft tyres. Nothing Bottas can do there. Daniel
:01:34. > :01:38.Ricciardo has finished his Lap 53.4. The team feel he can make it to the
:01:39. > :01:43.end or they are confident Rosberg is just having the shine taken off that
:01:44. > :01:47.new tyre performance. He has Raikkonen ahead of him. We know how
:01:48. > :01:57.slow the Ferrari has been, even down to Eau Rouge. As we come over the
:01:58. > :02:01.hill, already under the gearbox of the Ferrari. If you ever needed a
:02:02. > :02:06.visual reference for how slow the Ferrari is in a straight line. Kimi
:02:07. > :02:10.trying to stay in the slipstream to get along the straight faster, he
:02:11. > :02:16.has already given place up. Rosberg is flying on those fast tyres. We
:02:17. > :02:23.know he was 3.5 seconds behind Ricciardo before the stop. If
:02:24. > :02:26.Ricciardo has to stop he will have to respond now to have any chance of
:02:27. > :02:30.getting back out in front of Rosberg. This is where all of the
:02:31. > :02:36.analysis, going on at the factory of Red Bull and in the pit, will
:02:37. > :02:40.count. Do they bring Ricciardo in? If they are going to do it, they
:02:41. > :02:44.have to do it quickly or they leave him out there and hope he can hold
:02:45. > :02:50.on. This was the move simple move, in the end, for Rosberg to drift
:02:51. > :02:54.past Kimi Raikkonen, putting him back in second position. A
:02:55. > :03:00.straightforward question for Red Bull. They have more than 22nd gap,
:03:01. > :03:05.do they think they can afford to lose a couple of seconds per lap to
:03:06. > :03:11.maintain that position? Are they at all concerned that the prime-time
:03:12. > :03:15.will fall off the edge of the cliff? As the car gets lighter towards the
:03:16. > :03:22.end of the Grand Prix, the car gets racier, easier to accelerate and to
:03:23. > :03:26.break. And Daniel get away with doing two stops. When those around
:03:27. > :03:34.him are doing three. We will find out. Was the rent is 2.9 seconds
:03:35. > :03:40.quicker on that lap than Ricciardo. Red Bull have committed themselves
:03:41. > :03:44.to staying out. That lead he had has just been eroded, he would commit
:03:45. > :03:49.himself to coming around in second place. We are on board with Alonso
:03:50. > :03:56.as he chases Magnusson. This is a race hotting up nicely. On tyres
:03:57. > :04:00.that will be well past their best. Rosberg in a car working well with
:04:01. > :04:07.new tyres, which would you rather have? Hindsight will be a wonderful
:04:08. > :04:12.thing. It looks with that 2.9 second difference is if Alonso is looking
:04:13. > :04:17.at a pass. Magnusson defensive. A little mistake? Magnusson went a bit
:04:18. > :04:22.wide, it will open up a chance. This is it, Alonso all over the place
:04:23. > :04:26.trying to find a way through, Magnusson continuing to go defensive
:04:27. > :04:31.into the hairpin, can Alonso make it stick around the outside? He was not

:04:41. > :04:45.was something McLaren and Ron Dennis will take note of, Magnusson was
:04:46. > :04:49.prepared to hang out and show Alonso he will have to fight harder for the
:04:50. > :04:55.position. Rosberg in the middle sector, two seconds faster than
:04:56. > :05:00.Ricciardo. RADIO: guys, you need to stop me and save my engine. Message
:05:01. > :05:06.understood, Lewis, message understood, the engine is not a
:05:07. > :05:10.concern. Eight laps to go. Don't worry, we are talking about it. He
:05:11. > :05:14.is well outside the points, but management don't want him to retire.
:05:15. > :05:19.Thanks to Tony who has been doing maths in the commentary box, Rosberg

:05:39. > :05:44.you want to become a Rosberg or... If you were driving the car, which
:05:45. > :05:48.would you want to be in? I would rather be Daniel Ricciardo. My
:05:49. > :05:52.theory was if I was out front I could weave like a madman and
:05:53. > :05:57.maintain position. Overtaking is another story. They have the RS
:05:58. > :06:07.today and other tools that in ancient times we did not have. --
:06:08. > :06:14.DRS. We are on for another last lap climaxed by the look of things. Of a
:06:15. > :06:17.series of races we have enjoyed two enjoyed this year. Ricciardo has
:06:18. > :06:21.been in front a couple of times with three laps to go, hungry and Canada.
:06:22. > :06:26.But he has been in front for the majority of the Grand Prix today. A
:06:27. > :06:32.great drive. The issue he might have is, do they have enough fuel to be
:06:33. > :06:37.able to run the speeds? You can make a decision, as we discussed, to use
:06:38. > :06:43.that fuel to regenerate the energy into the kinetic store in the
:06:44. > :06:47.batteries and deploy that up to 160 horsepower. Resume of he can get all
:06:48. > :06:55.of the energy into the batteries each and every lap, does Mercedes
:06:56. > :07:00.have an issue with Rosberg? He does indeed, absolutely pushing to the
:07:01. > :07:06.limit. A nice kick off oversteer. What that does with a long straight
:07:07. > :07:10.afterwards, you can see you lose momentum all the way through
:07:11. > :07:14.Blanchimont. Gained another two seconds, might not be enough, the
:07:15. > :07:20.gap is down to 15.4 seconds tween Ricciardo and Rosberg. Maybe he
:07:21. > :07:25.needs more games than that. The advantage of the new tyres starts to
:07:26. > :07:32.drift away as we go through the next few laps. That is absolutely the
:07:33. > :07:37.case. The ace up the sleeve for Rosberg is they are super fuel
:07:38. > :07:44.efficient, they can keep using more fuel through the internal combustion
:07:45. > :07:48.engine. It helps store the batteries. The Ferrari having to go
:07:49. > :07:54.defensive, Bottas having a look around the outside of Raikkonen.
:07:55. > :07:59.RADIO: Lewis, degradation in error data here, we may have something
:08:00. > :08:05.coming through from the car, we need to box at the end of this lap. Call
:08:06. > :08:09.the car, call the car. Hamilton finally gets what he asked for,
:08:10. > :08:13.being asked to retire the car. A miserable afternoon for him and it
:08:14. > :08:17.all centred around the very first lap when Nico Rosberg tried to get
:08:18. > :08:23.past Hamilton. Hamilton had taken the lead, tried to sweep around the
:08:24. > :08:28.arts died and there was light contact between Rosberg's car and
:08:29. > :08:32.the rear tyre, it was punctured and from then on in Hamilton has been
:08:33. > :08:36.out of the game. -- sweep around the outside. Despite the nose cone
:08:37. > :08:44.change, Rosberg is still in the game, second. These two fighting for
:08:45. > :08:49.the podium. Rosberg is on schedule to take another couple of seconds
:08:50. > :08:53.out of Ricciardo's lead, it would get it around 13 seconds. For
:08:54. > :08:58.Mercedes it gives them two opportunities. The car is damaged.
:08:59. > :09:03.It is unlikely he will score a point. It gives the chance to get
:09:04. > :09:07.Lewis in the garage, they can have a word with him about the incident in
:09:08. > :09:12.the first lap before he goes near the media. When these guys finish,
:09:13. > :09:17.the team go straight the podium, to the press conference, that becomes
:09:18. > :09:22.the PR man's worst nightmare, they do not have a chance to brief them.
:09:23. > :09:27.It is great for us that they speak from the hip. There you go, senior
:09:28. > :09:31.management standing there, to say can we have a wee word. There will
:09:32. > :09:35.definitely be a briefing, debriefing, going on. If they finish
:09:36. > :09:38.where they are, Rosberg will be on to a June 20. Bottas having another
:09:39. > :09:49.go. Into third place. Kimi Raikkonen,
:09:50. > :09:54.who was heading for his first podium finish of the entire season with
:09:55. > :09:59.Ferrari, nothing he can do, but still on for his best result of the
:10:00. > :10:02.season. Alonso in sixth place. At least Raikkonen has a chance to
:10:03. > :10:05.score reasonable points today. A chance to score reasonable points
:10:06. > :10:10.today. The changing of the guard amongst Finnish superheroes.
:10:11. > :10:14.Raikkonen world champion, Bottas the coming man, as Hamilton as a quick
:10:15. > :10:27.word with Toto Wolff and disappears to the back. They will want to make
:10:28. > :10:32.sure... On board with Bottas. Not difficult. Getting himself back into
:10:33. > :10:37.another podium position. His team-mate, Massa, in 13th place. He
:10:38. > :10:41.has done nothing. Tried to have a word on the grid, it was a bit late,
:10:42. > :10:46.he is normally accommodating, but did not seem full of beans on the
:10:47. > :10:50.grid. I expect him to be even more miserable if he finishes in 13th
:10:51. > :10:57.place. There is the visible gap between Ricciardo one Rosberg, 10.8
:10:58. > :11:01.seconds. Is it going to be enough? That was again around the two and a
:11:02. > :11:07.half second mark on the last lap. Was Berg still catching. He has a
:11:08. > :11:11.chance here to open up another 18 points to make a gap of 29 points
:11:12. > :11:15.over his team-mate in the World Championship. How much of a gamble
:11:16. > :11:19.does he take if he catches Ricciardo? If he wins the race not
:11:20. > :11:26.only does he get the glory, trophy, 25 points, a bigot gap in the Champ
:11:27. > :11:30.injured, it will take a massive heat out of the team discussion regarding
:11:31. > :11:34.two drivers touching on the first lap because a win is a win and the
:11:35. > :11:37.marketing value, let's not forget, Monday to Friday it is a business,
:11:38. > :11:45.it is only at the weekend the sporting side comes out. Mercedes
:11:46. > :11:52.will market that win. You are only just going to catch, Nico, any

:11:57. > :12:04.doing enough. That is what Christian Horner hopes as he watches the
:12:05. > :12:07.monitors nervously. The man who has orchestrated Daniel Ricciardo's rise
:12:08. > :12:12.through the ranks. Isn't the Red Bull driver programme looking pretty
:12:13. > :12:16.in terms of success? Bringing Ricciardo through, signing a

:12:37. > :12:43.fifth, one of his best results of the season, he had a podium earlier
:12:44. > :12:48.in the year in Australia. McLaren have reduced the downforce in their
:12:49. > :12:52.car for this weekend. Seems to have been reasonably effective. Button
:12:53. > :12:58.ahead of Vettel, Vettel having made an extra pit stop. But that leaves

:13:16. > :13:20.That was not very pretty. Having to go around the outside, Vettel loses
:13:21. > :13:27.out, wanted to gain that position. You can see Alonso's Ferrari behind

:14:08. > :14:13.Rivage. McLaren almost touching. Alonso takes the place again, Vettel
:14:14. > :14:17.still hunting in behind them. Brilliant wheel-to-wheel action,
:14:18. > :14:20.Alonso still having a go. Eriksson and Chilton in the background, I
:14:21. > :14:24.know it is last place, but it is catering versus Marussia, crucial
:14:25. > :14:29.from their point of view, even though there are no points. Vettel
:14:30. > :14:34.down the inside of Button. That takes a good place for Red Bull.
:14:35. > :14:40.Great defensive driving. Button will not see it that way, he had to get
:14:41. > :14:49.out with the throttle. Up front I do not think Rosberg is doing enough

:14:56. > :15:00.He is still pushing, Rosberg, but the gap is not reducing as much as
:15:01. > :15:04.he needs to win here. Daniel Ricciardo once again is heading for
:15:05. > :15:10.victory it seems. On board with his team-mate Sebastian Vettel who is
:15:11. > :15:14.trying to get past Fernando Alonso. It is still all happening in this
:15:15. > :15:18.group. Kevin Magnussen, probably driving the best we have seen this
:15:19. > :15:23.year apart from that stunning debut in Australia. This is for fifth
:15:24. > :15:26.place. We know the Ferrari has not been good in a straight line,
:15:27. > :15:33.getting better drive off La Source but expected the Vettel getting into
:15:34. > :15:41.the DRS zone. Alonso will have it on the McLaren of Magnusson but Vettel
:15:42. > :15:46.closing up beforehand. He is trying to go around the outside of
:15:47. > :15:54.Magnusson. Vettel will try to take advantage. Trying desperately to
:15:55. > :15:59.keep cutting back going through Rivage and down to the hairpin. Will
:16:00. > :16:04.he be brave enough to go around the outside? We have already seen
:16:05. > :16:08.Magnussen pushing Button wide and he does the same with Alonso and Vettel
:16:09. > :16:13.is through. Magnussen did exactly the same thing and he had the right
:16:14. > :16:16.to do it, he had the racing line and most drivers would do the same as
:16:17. > :16:23.Jenson Button tries to line up Alonso. Alonso has used that line a
:16:24. > :16:30.few times that Rivage but Kevin Magnussen was aware and he was not
:16:31. > :16:33.going to give him space. McLaren are not committing to their drivers,
:16:34. > :16:39.this could be a defining drive for his future career. The incident
:16:40. > :16:44.between Magnussen and Alonso will be investigated after the race and that
:16:45. > :16:50.is the first one we have seen being looked at. That was actually down in
:16:51. > :16:57.turn five. Was there something else we did not spot that was happening?
:16:58. > :17:01.Possibly, let's have a look, Vettel now on Magnussen, trying the
:17:02. > :17:05.outside. That move does not work this time but he is still on fresh
:17:06. > :17:11.tyres and has good traction of the last corner. They had up to La
:17:12. > :17:16.Source, he squeezes Magnussen but he is not giving it up easily. It
:17:17. > :17:23.allows Alonso and Jenson Button to get closer. Much cleaner exit of
:17:24. > :17:31.course, much more traction and Vettel moves into fifth place.
:17:32. > :17:36.Magnussen will have DRS. There is a yellow flag, that could be the
:17:37. > :17:43.saving grace for Vettel. That incident in turn five with Magnussen
:17:44. > :17:48.and Alonso may be the one we saw with Alonso being pushed onto the
:17:49. > :17:53.grass on the approach. Yellow flags certainly denying the opportunity
:17:54. > :18:01.for Alonso to have a go on the other McLaren of Jenson Button. Is Alonso
:18:02. > :18:07.slowing? I think the tea tray may have broken, the little section
:18:08. > :18:12.front of the car. Daniel Ricciardo coming through and he wins the
:18:13. > :18:18.Belgian Grand Prix! Nico Rosberg finishes in second place,
:18:19. > :18:21.back-to-back victories for Daniel Ricciardo and Rosberg threw
:18:22. > :18:27.everything at him but he could not get passed in the end. The McLarens
:18:28. > :18:33.are still fighting for position in the last lap. Will it be Magnussen
:18:34. > :18:40.or Button who comes out ahead? Is Alonso struggling? We will keep an
:18:41. > :18:42.eye on that but for the moment, Magnussen has the edge over Jenson
:18:43. > :18:48.Button, Sebastian Vettel will finish ahead of them, Bottas has crossed
:18:49. > :18:52.the line in third position. Raikkonen has just finished in
:18:53. > :18:57.fourth place. But who will be the first of the two McLarens? It is
:18:58. > :19:02.going to be Kevin Magnussen, he has done enough. They will cross the
:19:03. > :19:09.line virtually together, Vettel finishes in fifth, Magnussen in six,
:19:10. > :19:14.Button in seventh. We are waiting for Fernando Alonso to come
:19:15. > :19:20.through. He has come through in eighth place but the race winner is
:19:21. > :19:25.Daniel Ricciardo. He has done it again, his third Grand Prix victory
:19:26. > :19:34.of the season, the 15thth ever win for Red Bull -- 50th. Fantastic
:19:35. > :19:38.performance. Rosberg out of his car with a little shrug of the
:19:39. > :19:47.shoulders. He has taken every opportunity given to them, taken a
:19:48. > :19:56.while to get out of the cockpit. We can see the brakes, absolutely on
:19:57. > :20:03.the limit for the Mercedes. He neutralised an entire pit stop by
:20:04. > :20:06.doing that extra stop. He were maimed the only driver to have
:20:07. > :20:14.beaten Mercedes at any concrete this year and has now done it on three
:20:15. > :20:17.occasions -- he remains the only driver to have beaten Mercedes at
:20:18. > :20:59.any Grand Prix. Max Chilton beat Marcus Ericsson by
:21:00. > :21:08.0.6 seconds at the end, winning that little battle. But Daniel Ricciardo
:21:09. > :21:13.is the star of the show once again at a track that everybody said would
:21:14. > :21:20.be Mercedes territory, even if not the team, a Mercedes engine would
:21:21. > :21:26.win but no, the Renault powered Red Bull. McLaren will have moved ahead
:21:27. > :21:35.of Force India in the Constructors' Championship courtesy of two solid
:21:36. > :21:42.finishes for Magnussen and Button. That was Vettel on Magnussen,
:21:43. > :21:47.getting a bit punchy and that was why we saw Alonso, as Vettel
:21:48. > :21:54.cutback, we missed that. He lost the front of his wing. In Malaysia a few
:21:55. > :22:01.years ago... Alonso was unsighted and the front wing takes some
:22:02. > :22:04.damage. In Malaysia, the whole front wing went under the car and he
:22:05. > :22:09.failed to finish. Maybe Alonso was smart enough to know that he could
:22:10. > :22:19.get even less than eighth place if he pushes so he backed off. On this
:22:20. > :22:21.occasion, Kimi Raikkonen finished in fourth place but still no podium
:22:22. > :22:35.finish for him at Ferrari this year. It will be hard work for Ferrari to
:22:36. > :22:38.get back to a podium finish but today, no doubt that Red Bull have
:22:39. > :22:45.pulled off one of the shocks of the season. Hungary was not such a
:22:46. > :22:50.shock, we always knew that Red Bull in changeable conditions could have
:22:51. > :22:55.a chance but to win in the dry at Spa, Mercedes had their problems but
:22:56. > :23:00.even so, it is a very significant victory. It is an amazing victory,
:23:01. > :23:04.they came here with a defined strategy and put their drivers under
:23:05. > :23:09.huge pressure in qualifying, running less downforce, hoping it would be
:23:10. > :23:12.dry and they would somehow be able to get themselves in a situation
:23:13. > :23:19.where they were quick enough in a straight line. Nico Rosberg went for
:23:20. > :23:23.it at the start, there will be more explaining and a frosty scenario at
:23:24. > :23:41.Mercedes I am sure coming off the back of Budapest.
:23:42. > :24:00.You wanted to pit? I locked up the front trying to pass Sebastien. You
:24:01. > :24:13.finished on crime? -- prime. Yes. He is loving it.
:24:14. > :24:25.Vibration? Yes, about three quarters of the way through. He just keeps
:24:26. > :24:29.delivering. It has been a long time since we have seen an Australian
:24:30. > :24:35.winner of the Belgian, three. The last time was Sir Jack Brabham back
:24:36. > :24:51.in 1960 -- the Belgian Grand Prix. That was an important phone call,
:24:52. > :24:56.victories are not to be taken for granted in a difficult season. And
:24:57. > :25:00.we saw that Ferrari are still holding on to third place but only a
:25:01. > :25:06.gap of eight points between them and Williams. It means that the lead for
:25:07. > :25:13.Rosberg is 29 points in the Drivers' Championship. Great crowds below the
:25:14. > :25:18.podium as the drivers head out. Valtteri Bottas finishes third once
:25:19. > :25:26.more for Williams. Second place on this occasion for Nico Rosberg. Some
:25:27. > :25:32.booing for Rosberg, maybe a lot of Hamilton fans in the crowd. But the
:25:33. > :25:45.race winner Daniel Ricciardo gets a huge cheer.
:25:46. > :27:56.For the third time this year, the Australian anthem plays out for
:27:57. > :28:02.Daniel Ricciardo. He has won three races, his Sebastian -- team-mate
:28:03. > :28:06.Sebastian Vettel is yet to win a race and is yet to lead a race this
:28:07. > :28:12.year but the superstar continues. Smiling all the way as he takes
:28:13. > :28:17.another victory, head of Nico Rosberg who finishes second. Adrian
:28:18. > :28:20.Newey, the engineering decisions that Red Bull made this weekend
:28:21. > :28:27.certainly worked, going for a low downforce setup. They had the
:28:28. > :28:31.straight-line speed they needed to defend. That wet qualifying
:28:32. > :28:36.yesterday with tricky but they still got some good results. And a pretty
:28:37. > :28:43.negative reaction from the crowd as Nico Rosberg picks up the trophy for
:28:44. > :28:48.second and that has to go back to Lap 1 of the incident with Hamilton
:28:49. > :28:55.which shredded his hire. Valtteri Bottas gets a big cheer for another
:28:56. > :29:00.third-place finish -- shredded his tyre.
:29:01. > :29:10.Time to celebrate. Daniel Ricciardo has taken victory here in Belgium
:29:11. > :29:14.but Nico Rosberg is going to have to come up with some good answers when
:29:15. > :29:55.he goes to speak to the Mercedes management.
:29:56. > :29:58.enjoying the champagne sprayed. That he was part of an ice bucket
:29:59. > :30:04.challenge here yesterday along with Christian Horner. The champagne was
:30:05. > :30:09.warmer than that, but a lot more sticky. We will hear from the top
:30:10. > :30:13.three contenders, of course. It will be our very own Eddie Jordan, who
:30:14. > :30:17.has had his own success with the Jordan racing team here in Belgium
:30:18. > :30:23.in the past, doing the interviews. Hello, Spa, the driver two drivers
:30:24. > :30:33.favourite circuit. Adrian Newey, well done. What a race. Exciting.
:30:34. > :30:40.You loved it? Yes. What about this man here? Come on, let's hear it.
:30:41. > :30:47.Daniel, I have to say to you, you are responsible for keeping half of
:30:48. > :30:51.Australia up until this hour. Yes, obviously back home there is a huge
:30:52. > :30:54.following. But this is nearly as many Australian flags as there were
:30:55. > :30:59.in Melbourne, it is impressive, a lot of Aussies, at least all the
:31:00. > :31:04.fans, here this weekend. Thank you very much. We saw you for the first
:31:05. > :31:08.time because the previous two wins you happen to get in there the last
:31:09. > :31:12.three or four laps, this time you lead from the front, different task,
:31:13. > :31:17.different pressure, what was it like? Definitely a bit different.
:31:18. > :31:22.When you lead the race it is, I guess, for that long it is more
:31:23. > :31:26.about composure, looking at your lap times as being as consistent as
:31:27. > :31:30.possible. Once I heard Rosberg coming for a third stop we knew he
:31:31. > :31:35.would be quick at the end, I had to try and keep the lap times up and
:31:36. > :31:40.keep it clean. We will be back to you, don't go away. Where is the
:31:41. > :31:51.man? He is here, Nico Rosberg ladies and gentlemen! Come on, guys,
:31:52. > :31:58.steadied. BOOING. Nico drove an unbelievably good race. What
:31:59. > :32:04.happened? I got a good run on Lewis, tried to go around the outside,
:32:05. > :32:09.yes, we touched. In the end, unfortunately. It hurt both of our
:32:10. > :32:15.races. From the team point of view it is very disappointing. It is the
:32:16. > :32:20.way it is. It is not a question of apportioning blame, did you see
:32:21. > :32:24.blame or was it a racing accident, 50-50 situation? I have not seen it,
:32:25. > :32:29.it would not be good of me to comment now, I need to look on TV
:32:30. > :32:34.then I can comment afterwards. We know you have a lot of fans, but a
:32:35. > :32:38.lot of Lewis Hamilton fans. I am thinking about Mercedes, the
:32:39. > :32:46.domination of the qualifying, did you think it would be one -to today?
:32:47. > :32:54.I was confident, we had a very good race. I was confident but it did not
:32:55. > :33:02.work out for us today. -- 1-2. Our championship leader, Nico Rosberg!
:33:03. > :33:06.BOOING. Hey, guys, come on, that is not fair, you know it is not fair,
:33:07. > :33:10.he has driven his heart out like everyone of these guys to put on a
:33:11. > :33:18.spectacular race for you, he needs and deserves a round of applause,
:33:19. > :33:23.thank you. Valtteri you are making a habit of this, we had to have a
:33:24. > :33:27.special place for you here. Four podiums out of the last five, what
:33:28. > :33:32.is going on? I mean, why not? The team has done such a good job. We
:33:33. > :33:39.are definitely on the right way. The fourth podium in my career, fought
:33:40. > :33:46.for us this season. We are chasing for the highs step, but for this
:33:47. > :33:51.season, if we keep like this it is OK because it is the future that
:33:52. > :33:57.matters. How far away do you think you are from the highest level?
:33:58. > :34:01.Williams have great speed, can you get the final extra pace? I think
:34:02. > :34:07.this season it will be difficult, we definitely need to be lucky to
:34:08. > :34:12.achieve that. Mercedes is very strong. On a track like this Red
:34:13. > :34:16.Bull was really quick, we could not really challenge Ricciardo. We still
:34:17. > :34:22.have work to do, but we are on the right way. Thank you to Valtteri
:34:23. > :34:28.Bottas, ladies and gentlemen! There are lots of flags and well-wishers
:34:29. > :34:32.here for you. Your third win of the season. Please tell everybody what
:34:33. > :34:35.it was like for the final couple of laps, as you must have no Nico was
:34:36. > :34:43.closing in, what was going through your head? The first thing, you hope
:34:44. > :34:48.everything holds together. You hope mechanically everything gets you to
:34:49. > :34:52.the finish line. Yes, then it is trying to hit your marks and keep
:34:53. > :34:57.consistent, but always the last few laps the chequered flag cannot come
:34:58. > :35:02.soon enough. If someone was asleep for the last six months of the year
:35:03. > :35:04.and came back and saw Daniel Ricciardo had won three Grand Prix
:35:05. > :35:12.races they would not have believed it, many congratulations, a fabulous
:35:13. > :35:19.surprise. Two or three people up here, show your appreciation for the
:35:20. > :35:21.drivers! That tack killer Spa has delivered a 50th Grand Prix win for
:35:22. > :35:24.Red Bull and back-to-back wins for Red Bull and back-to-back wins
:35:25. > :35:28.Daniel Ricciardo, but the rivalry between Rosberg and Hamilton has led
:35:29. > :35:32.to inevitable contact and the Inquisition begins.
:35:33. > :35:38.It certainly does, unscripted and rather unexpected, nothing to be
:35:39. > :35:43.taken away from the brilliant Daniel Ricciardo, who won here today, a
:35:44. > :35:48.superb drive from him, the crowd have made their decision, David, on
:35:49. > :35:52.what happened on track. Undoubtedly a lot of Lewis Hamilton fans were
:35:53. > :35:58.disappointed. Let's go back to the start of the story. Talk us through
:35:59. > :36:01.what happened to Lewis. First, I am surprised at the crowd, you can see
:36:02. > :36:07.Lewis rolling back into position, luckily for him and uphill start, he
:36:08. > :36:12.shot his position. The lights were already engaged. He gets a great
:36:13. > :36:16.drive of the left side of the track. It normally would not be the prime
:36:17. > :36:21.side, he gets around the outside of Rosberg. Rosberg will know he can
:36:22. > :36:24.have another run as he goes through. He gets passed by Vettel as well,
:36:25. > :36:29.that'll has to be defensive as they go down the hill. Nico probably
:36:30. > :36:33.frustrated at this point, on the back foot, not thinking as straight
:36:34. > :36:38.as he would if he was running at the front of the Grand Prix. We see it
:36:39. > :36:43.again here, Vettel gets a good drive off the line, Rosberg clearly did
:36:44. > :36:49.not get good traction or engagement of the crutch, it made Vettel run
:36:50. > :36:56.around the outside. Clean for the other cars until somewhere down the
:36:57. > :37:06.run into Eau Rouge there was contact with Bianchi. This is where it
:37:07. > :37:08.becomes controversial. Nico tries to run around the outside of Lewis
:37:09. > :37:15.Hamilton, Lewis coming back across to the left in turn six. It is
:37:16. > :37:19.contact, he is in the slipstream. Lewis goes defensive very early,
:37:20. > :37:24.completely fair. Nico tries to run around the outside, is not far
:37:25. > :37:27.enough, takes a turn away, turns back again. The drivers cannot see
:37:28. > :37:31.the front wing, I don't believe there was any malice, do not believe
:37:32. > :37:35.he did literally tried to hit the rear tyre, but that was the outcome.
:37:36. > :37:39.Let's see what boss Toto Wolff thought.
:37:40. > :37:47.I think Nico came out to some booing there. You do not have much to say
:37:48. > :37:52.about that. Let's talk about the race. The incident between the two
:37:53. > :37:59.of them? Absolutely unacceptable. Absolutely unacceptable. Number two
:38:00. > :38:04.over a long race, a crash between two team-mates, we have often
:38:05. > :38:08.discussed that situation, it happened today. Can you apportion
:38:09. > :38:15.blame? I think it is pretty clear what happened out there, you do not
:38:16. > :38:21.try to overtake between your teams on lap number two. And then damage
:38:22. > :38:26.both cars. Do you think it is a watershed moment between them, the
:38:27. > :38:29.battle between them and their relationship? It is a decisive
:38:30. > :38:34.moment for the battle between the two of them and for the team. What
:38:35. > :38:38.did Lewis say to you after the race? He is very upset but there is not a
:38:39. > :38:42.lot to say, we kept him out therefore a long time in a very
:38:43. > :38:51.damaged car. He will recover quickly, that is how he is, but not
:38:52. > :38:52.an ideal situation. How will you handle the situation now? It is
:38:53. > :39:02.going to be handled. Jude Strong words from Toto Wolff, quite
:39:03. > :39:06.outspoken for him, very honest. Clearly he thought it was ludicrous.
:39:07. > :39:10.I really admire he has the confidence in the team, the
:39:11. > :39:15.structure, the people, and he is empowered as the head of motorsports
:39:16. > :39:18.for Mercedes is not to give us some wishy-washy PR answer, we will
:39:19. > :39:23.discuss it internally. He is putting a mark in the sand, he is right. I
:39:24. > :39:28.know from my career when I have run into team-mates it is acceptable.
:39:29. > :39:32.When I touch them. But it happens and it is inevitable when the battle
:39:33. > :39:36.is so intense. Nico was fully charged to put a mark in the sand
:39:37. > :39:40.with Lewis, he has not beaten him in a wheel-to-wheel fight and today he
:39:41. > :39:43.has not managed. It was clumsy. I don't think it was deliberate, I am
:39:44. > :39:48.embarrassed and sorry for him to hear the booing on the podium, but
:39:49. > :39:52.the fans wear their hearts on their sleeves and their emotions say they
:39:53. > :39:56.are not happy. Too aggressive from him. Toto says it will be handled,
:39:57. > :40:01.how do you expect they will handle something like that? The points
:40:02. > :40:05.deficit now has opened up to the benefit of Nico Rosberg, it has been
:40:06. > :40:09.a big hit for Lewis this afternoon, can't do anything about that, but
:40:10. > :40:14.they can reprimand Nico within the team, they are effectively doing it
:40:15. > :40:17.publicly now, even before they have sat everyone down. Beyond us I can
:40:18. > :40:21.see Toto Wolff doing another interview, he is not shying away
:40:22. > :40:25.from putting out the fact this is not what Mercedes expect from
:40:26. > :40:28.drivers. It is normally Niki Lauda who is the mouthpiece and he does
:40:29. > :40:33.not shy away. This is what he had to say will stop you have been watching
:40:34. > :40:38.the podium, only one driver up there, describe your emotions after
:40:39. > :40:45.the race. It is unacceptable for me that in the second lap Nico hits
:40:46. > :40:50.Lewis. Unacceptable. Why did it happen? Surely you have talked
:40:51. > :40:54.through the scenario before. There will be a meeting to find out, but
:40:55. > :40:59.this is an acceptable because if these things happen, at the race,
:41:00. > :41:03.what these two guys lose fighting each other, we can talk about it. In
:41:04. > :41:08.the second lap, to make this mistake and then let Red Bull and Ricciardo
:41:09. > :41:13.win, I have to say they did a very good job, it is ridiculous. Did you
:41:14. > :41:17.talk through the scenario prior to the race, do not hit each other in
:41:18. > :41:24.the opening laps? So far we thought they were clever enough to know
:41:25. > :41:32.that, now we have to discuss it. The words unacceptable used by Toto and
:41:33. > :41:36.Niki. You had a disagreement about, do you want to have a look again? I
:41:37. > :41:40.have seen it so many times, the team have to look at themselves first. It
:41:41. > :41:46.is wrong. What happened here could have been avoided so easily by a
:41:47. > :41:50.clear instruction from the team. And tell them not to pass each other,
:41:51. > :41:55.don't cause any problem, until the race settles down. This is, for me,
:41:56. > :42:00.a boardroom decision, it should never have happened, don't blame the
:42:01. > :42:04.drivers. I hear you and respect your point of view, but you take the race
:42:05. > :42:09.out of the race. You employ these guys, you want people in your racing
:42:10. > :42:12.cars that have racing instincts. It is a sport for everyone and it is
:42:13. > :42:17.the team who employ these people, you can't let people do what they
:42:18. > :42:21.want to do. They may like it, but after a number of laps when the
:42:22. > :42:26.situation has settled, the team has suffered here. The team has
:42:27. > :42:32.suffered. I accept that but in defence of the drivers, forget the
:42:33. > :42:36.drivers. Defend the drivers when they are out on a limb, they are
:42:37. > :42:41.rudderless, the team is not exercising what is normal control
:42:42. > :42:44.here. All season we have been very excited about the fact Mercedes have
:42:45. > :42:49.let their drivers race, it has made the season the season it has been.
:42:50. > :42:56.At the start of the show you were waxing lyrical, now you say they
:42:57. > :43:01.should have team orders. David and I had a discussion, we talked about
:43:02. > :43:07.instructions and other things. We brought his life into the position.
:43:08. > :43:11.Leave that aside. This was, for me, Spa. The clearest indication,
:43:12. > :43:17.changeable weather, think about the team first. What difference would it
:43:18. > :43:21.have made, whoever made it into the first corner first, let them have it
:43:22. > :43:25.until it settles down, and at least one or two laps, three laps, it is
:43:26. > :43:31.underway, then take up the fight. What they did was stupid. You are
:43:32. > :43:35.allowing the motions of the driver in a heated situation take over when
:43:36. > :43:43.it is the team, the responsibility of the sponsors, they have lost a
:43:44. > :43:49.race, they have lost up 1-2. They have to blame themselves. Good point
:43:50. > :43:53.well made. Be mild, you do not say in a boxing match, do not knock each
:43:54. > :44:00.other out until the fifth round so we get some value. -- meanwhile. Why
:44:01. > :44:05.did Mike Tyson not know that when he was a young boxer? Knock people out
:44:06. > :44:09.left, right and centre. It is not acceptable to make contact with your
:44:10. > :44:12.team-mates in a noncontact sport. I do not think Nico did it
:44:13. > :44:16.deliberately, he was just clumsy. He knows he is not as good
:44:17. > :44:21.wheel-to-wheel as Lewis and was frustrated at losing pole position.
:44:22. > :44:22.It was almost inevitable they would have contacted at some point during
:44:23. > :44:23.the year. It was almost inevitable they would
:44:24. > :44:28.have contacted at some point But I think is admirable is that Toto has
:44:29. > :44:32.taken the position as team boss of saying, I will have a word with
:44:33. > :44:38.these guys, this is my position, not hide behind some wishy-washy PR. It
:44:39. > :44:46.is too late, too late. They should have handled this long before today.
:44:47. > :44:54.Obviously it is Lewis that came out worse from this. Very disappointing
:44:55. > :44:57.for him and he is well behind Nico in the championship. What does this
:44:58. > :45:03.mean for him? It means added pressure. I think it will not help
:45:04. > :45:11.in the relationships, they will not be sharing a plane home. Sadly it
:45:12. > :45:17.means war and that has been declared today with seven races to go. Nico
:45:18. > :45:23.has the upper hand beyond any doubt. I am sure Lewis will come back but
:45:24. > :45:29.he has been fighting a battle all the time. If another error comes in
:45:30. > :45:34.the next race, the championship will go. It could go the other way as
:45:35. > :45:40.well. This has gone up and down, double points at the end, Nico could
:45:41. > :45:44.have a technical problem in Monza. I take the point about the team being
:45:45. > :45:48.bigger than the drivers but what is interesting was the public reaction.
:45:49. > :45:54.At the German Grand Prix, the stands were not full with the German driver
:45:55. > :45:59.leaving the German team. Nico is a really nice guy but for some reason
:46:00. > :46:04.he is not getting the public behind him and clearly Niki Lauda and Toto
:46:05. > :46:11.are happy to say this was unacceptable. He has been put out
:46:12. > :46:15.their little bit, he does not have the team support, arguably
:46:16. > :46:19.correctly. He does not have public support but he is leading the
:46:20. > :46:23.championship. What would Michael Schumacher do, what would Ayrton
:46:24. > :46:28.Senna do? That is very interesting, not at the end of the season yet but
:46:29. > :46:34.if you look at Nico, it is interesting what he has done from a
:46:35. > :46:38.PR sense. He went a huge newspaper in the UK and put a column in there
:46:39. > :46:43.trying to win over British fans because he knew that Lewis would
:46:44. > :46:47.have them. That is smart but today, do you think that has turned on its
:46:48. > :46:52.head and he has lost any British support? I think it was fragile from
:46:53. > :46:56.the word go. It was made out of paper clips, there was nothing
:46:57. > :47:06.structured in my opinion. We also have to remember as David touched
:47:07. > :47:14.on, talking about reputation, the German broadcasters are down 30% and
:47:15. > :47:18.that is think about had it been Michael Schumacher -- unthinkable.
:47:19. > :47:22.You have to ask if he is able to attract the people on the street to
:47:23. > :47:29.come behind them. It is confusing for them, he is German but has a
:47:30. > :47:34.finish macro passport and lives in Monaco -- Finnish passport. He is
:47:35. > :47:43.seen as being European more than anything. Going back to Sebastian
:47:44. > :47:49.Vettel, he is German, but they also did not embrace him. It is as if
:47:50. > :47:53.they love Michael and that is it, they cannot love anybody else. I
:47:54. > :47:57.have spoken to some of my German colleagues and they say that Michael
:47:58. > :48:04.was seen as a man of the people who they could relate to. Whether it is
:48:05. > :48:07.because Sebastien being younger, Nico being brought up in Monaco, the
:48:08. > :48:16.son of a world champion, people don't feel, that could be me. It is
:48:17. > :48:20.interesting, Eddie, because usually if somebody is your nationality,
:48:21. > :48:29.take Sebastien... Hang on, we have got Lewis. Then you some up your
:48:30. > :48:34.emotions? Firstly I want to say, in the drivers parade there were so
:48:35. > :48:39.many British flags here, so many Brits, the support was amazing. I am
:48:40. > :48:50.gutted I was not able to give them a result today. And, yes, what can I
:48:51. > :48:56.say? Initially it was really gutting for myself. I was driving so hard,
:48:57. > :49:01.you could not see it but I was driving so hard in the car to try to
:49:02. > :49:08.do what I could but it was so damaged, I must have lost 50, 60
:49:09. > :49:12.points of downforce, I could not even take Eau Rouge flat for example
:49:13. > :49:17.will stop I am just doctored for the team. My guys work so hard, we have
:49:18. > :49:23.had such a difficult time this year. I got a good start and it was
:49:24. > :49:28.looking positive and I felt good. I took the corner as normal, it was my
:49:29. > :49:34.line and I don't know why he hit me. I am sure he will leave here happy.
:49:35. > :49:38.He has extended his lead in the championship. Do you speak to him
:49:39. > :49:45.now? How big a moment is this? You were upset after Monaco, is this
:49:46. > :49:51.worse? I would not say it is worse, it can't get much worse than Monaco
:49:52. > :49:56.was but it is not good. It took me a long time to regain 30 points last
:49:57. > :50:03.time. You saw at Silverstone that it can change quickly. But his car
:50:04. > :50:08.rarely stops. It is looking good for him this season now. In terms of you
:50:09. > :50:12.wanting to stop, you stayed at 20 laps after you first asked to come
:50:13. > :50:18.what were the benefits of staying out? Did the team explain? I was
:50:19. > :50:22.driving and not giving up but I knew that Romain Grosjean for example, he
:50:23. > :50:28.was much slower and I was chasing him and could not catch him. When I
:50:29. > :50:33.did I struggled to stay behind him because the cart was so unbalanced.
:50:34. > :50:38.I am thinking to myself, in the last race I lost an engine because it is
:50:39. > :50:44.on fire so I am one engine down on Nico's allocation which means I will
:50:45. > :50:48.be tighter on practice laps in the next races. I am thinking to myself
:50:49. > :50:54.to save the engine because even if eight safety car comes out I will
:50:55. > :50:58.struggle to pass the Sauber cars. I was thinking to save the engine for
:50:59. > :51:02.a long haul. It is not a good result to not finish but that was my
:51:03. > :51:07.thought. You have been pushing so hard this year against the odds, you
:51:08. > :51:12.still seem quite emotional. What will it take to win this will
:51:13. > :51:18.championship now? There are a lot of things going on in my mind. You get
:51:19. > :51:25.to thinking that it is maybe not my year. But I can't let that overtake
:51:26. > :51:34.everything, there are still seven races, we have a great and a great
:51:35. > :51:38.team. I believe in them. Who knows whether some fortune will come my
:51:39. > :51:43.way but I will give it everything I can for the next races because that
:51:44. > :51:47.is all I can do. Does it matter that Niki Lauda and Toto Wolff have been
:51:48. > :51:53.so what on your side? What happens now? Will you speak to Nico? It
:51:54. > :51:58.reminds me of when I was at school, the teachers would have a talk but
:51:59. > :52:08.they don't do nothing or you get a detention. All they can do is say
:52:09. > :52:13.that was not good and we move on. You have those points, the stewards
:52:14. > :52:19.did not act on it and he is now 30 points ahead. I will just have two
:52:20. > :52:26.regather my thoughts and just be attacking like crazy in the next
:52:27. > :52:28.couple of races. Some clear thinking it seems from Lewis Hamilton,
:52:29. > :52:33.possibly the best interview he has given all year. He seemed like he
:52:34. > :52:39.had thought it through in the moment he has had. He did not say anything
:52:40. > :52:44.out of step and he was right about all of it. There was a couple of
:52:45. > :52:49.things I would like to revisit. He talked about the team being
:52:50. > :52:55.wishy-washy, I have alluded to that already. He feels that 30 points in
:52:56. > :53:01.the situation, remember what he said, Nico's cart does not breakdown
:53:02. > :53:11.as much as mine, that is a little shot over the bowels of the team --
:53:12. > :53:15.Nico's car. It was thoughtful but there was obviously a message and he
:53:16. > :53:20.wanted to deliver it and I think that message is critical to the team
:53:21. > :53:26.and the way his car is run. I agree, it was fantastically well thought
:53:27. > :53:31.through from Lewes. It shows me how, in his mind in the calm out of the
:53:32. > :53:35.race car, he is able to gather his thoughts but he is emotional in the
:53:36. > :53:39.car and he lives on his instincts which makes him such a great driver
:53:40. > :53:45.to watch. But he's not scared to say what he is thinking. Although it is
:53:46. > :53:49.a difficult situation, I am enjoying the fact that Mercedes are allowing
:53:50. > :53:53.the drivers to talk and to say what they think. You would like to be
:53:54. > :53:58.celebrating every victory but the reality is, taking that approach in
:53:59. > :54:00.the long run will win through four Mercedes in terms of building
:54:01. > :54:05.popularity with the public because they want to be seen as having the
:54:06. > :54:09.best drivers in the car. Ardently they have two of the best, and
:54:10. > :54:12.allowing them to go wheel-to-wheel if they have a mathematical chance
:54:13. > :54:16.of doing so and it does not affect the overall performance of the team.
:54:17. > :54:21.Clearly Nico made an error of judgement today and it cost Lewes. A
:54:22. > :54:29.lot of people might think that Lewis should have an element of judge --
:54:30. > :54:33.an element of mis-judgement. That is on the cards and if I was Lewes and
:54:34. > :54:38.I felt as strongly as he is just said, those things have to come into
:54:39. > :54:46.his mind -- Lewis. It has happened so many times in years gone by. It
:54:47. > :54:51.was part of the plan. My guess is that Lewis needs a good nights
:54:52. > :54:56.sleep. It is far from over, I am still a huge believer in him. He has
:54:57. > :55:00.showed that, on the first lap he made a fantastic start and he was
:55:01. > :55:05.gone, in my opinion he was gone. What happened, Nico knew that if he
:55:06. > :55:11.did not have a go at him in that corner he was gone. Let's draw a
:55:12. > :55:15.line under this for a moment because Daniel Ricciardo won the race in
:55:16. > :55:21.superb style. You don't get any better than this. He has led three
:55:22. > :55:26.races and he has won all three but he did it quite early today.
:55:27. > :55:35.Christian Horner is watching the team celebrate. Great scenes, your
:55:36. > :55:40.50th win and Daniel did it in style. Absolutely, his pace was remarkable.
:55:41. > :55:43.We knew he was quick on Friday, we took a gamble with the downforce and
:55:44. > :55:46.ran a very low configurations and he took a gamble with the downforce and
:55:47. > :55:50.managed to make it work. We had a choice at the end to pit and cover
:55:51. > :55:56.Rosberg or leave him out and it was a roll of the dice. We managed to
:55:57. > :56:03.just about had enough. How big was the gamble? Massive, Eddie, about as
:56:04. > :56:07.big as you have ever taken! You cannot imagine some of the stunts I
:56:08. > :56:13.have pulled but we will leave that for another day! But you had a
:56:14. > :56:18.gamble, tell us about it. You are doing the maths, three seconds a lap
:56:19. > :56:24.quicker, if you can do this lap time, we can be two seconds ahead at
:56:25. > :56:27.the flag. The guys in Milton Keynes are crunching the numbers but it is
:56:28. > :56:35.down to Daniel to do it in the car. He was given that challenge and made
:56:36. > :56:39.it work. The difference in the wing level was visible. Does it give you
:56:40. > :56:47.a big boost going to Monza because you've effectively roped off these
:56:48. > :56:51.races? -- you wrote off. It was meant to be damage limitation. I
:56:52. > :56:57.think for Monza we will have to take the wing of so I apologise to the
:56:58. > :57:02.sponsors! We have managed to find a balance and Daniel has found a
:57:03. > :57:07.confidence in the car which produced a lap time and with a good strategy
:57:08. > :57:09.we managed to win the race. It did not seem the car was that
:57:10. > :57:19.compromised between wallah frying and the race. -- between qualifying.
:57:20. > :57:22.We were still two and a half seconds off yesterday which we knew would be
:57:23. > :57:27.tricky in the wet but to be ahead of the rest was a bonus. We were much
:57:28. > :57:32.closer today and ultimately we then fitted from the Mercedes little
:57:33. > :57:39.get-together. But in like-for-like pace, we were not that far off. You
:57:40. > :57:44.said about the get-together, tell me your view. It looked like a racing
:57:45. > :57:50.incident, two drivers going for the same piece of tarmac, it happens in
:57:51. > :57:58.racing. You had a different strategy on Sebastien. Was that, the
:57:59. > :58:04.Williams? In that position, we were worried about getting undercut by
:58:05. > :58:13.Williams as we had been by Timmy. We thought we would go for it and over
:58:14. > :58:18.hard tyre early -- Kimi Raikkonen. But we struggled for pace. Whether
:58:19. > :58:21.there was some damage, something was not working because Sebastien Boss
:58:22. > :58:27.early pace was good but it was not there in the second half --
:58:28. > :58:32.Sebastien's early pace. Congratulations and thank you for
:58:33. > :58:37.talking to us all stop fifth-place for Sebastian Vettel and he has been
:58:38. > :58:41.talking to us. A lot going on in that race. You made an excellent
:58:42. > :58:48.start but after that it did not quite go your way. No. How are
:58:49. > :58:57.feeling you? 44 long laps but so much happens. Disappointed at the
:58:58. > :59:02.end? Yes because we did not have the speed, yesterday it was bad in dry
:59:03. > :59:08.conditions. In the wet there is a lot you can cover but we did not
:59:09. > :59:10.have the pace. How much are you regretting missing that corner at
:59:11. > :59:19.the start when you had got ahead of Rosberg? Yes, I was trying to put
:59:20. > :59:25.Lewis under pressure. We were set up for straight line. The tyres were a
:59:26. > :59:30.bit colder than I expected and when I hit the brakes, they locked up so
:59:31. > :59:34.I had to go wide. I lost the position to Nico, Lap 2 was quite
:59:35. > :59:39.good to see them touching each other, it gave some hope but very
:59:40. > :59:46.soon after I realised that I did not have the speed.
:59:47. > :59:52.fifth, which was scintillating towards the end of the race, it
:59:53. > :59:56.really came alive with him and the McLarens and Alonso within all of
:59:57. > :00:00.that. We almost missed giving the build-up to Daniel coming across the
:00:01. > :00:04.bridge because there was such a great battle for that position, this
:00:05. > :00:10.is where we saw Alonso getting a squeeze towards grass. Trying to
:00:11. > :00:15.come around the outside of Button. Button bravely holds it as they go
:00:16. > :00:20.through the axis of turn seven. Magnusson defended fantastically.
:00:21. > :00:24.Jenson Button may see it differently. As they come out of the
:00:25. > :00:28.hairpin pushes him wide, he loses position to Alonso and becomes
:00:29. > :00:32.compromised. It was all happening. It looked like Alonso had moved
:00:33. > :00:36.himself into a position to really take advantage and put Magnusson
:00:37. > :00:40.under pressure. You would have loved to see that in a young racer in
:00:41. > :00:47.Formula One. I was so ecstatic about this. Any time the Mercedes want to
:00:48. > :00:53.take each other out, I am in favour because this is racing like I love
:00:54. > :00:56.it, the best you can imagine. You can see Sebastian Vettel as Alonso
:00:57. > :01:03.is cutting left and right, thinking, where can I position this car?
:01:04. > :01:08.Magnusson your eye on the road and the mirrors. Magnusson has done an
:01:09. > :01:13.amazing job. Alonso tries to go around the outside, Magnusson not
:01:14. > :01:16.fazed at all by the world champion. Holds position, releases Vettel into
:01:17. > :01:21.the situation where he can have a go. Alonso and Magnusson under
:01:22. > :01:33.investigation, what do you make of the incident? That was in the
:01:34. > :01:37.rundown to turn five. I did not see it that closely to be honest, but
:01:38. > :01:42.they felt he has made a late move then pushed Fernando towards the
:01:43. > :01:46.grass. You are allowed to make one change of direction to defend your
:01:47. > :01:49.position, but not crowd a car off the circuit. Stewards will look at
:01:50. > :01:54.the video footage and make a clear decision. All of these races are
:01:55. > :01:57.important to drivers for different reasons, but Jenson Button is
:01:58. > :02:04.fighting to extend his career for the rest of the season, do you
:02:05. > :02:08.think? I was intrigued by the interview on his bike with David,
:02:09. > :02:15.clearly he wants to, will it happen? The jury is out. He needs two or
:02:16. > :02:19.three really strong races. He can continue to be qualified and beaten
:02:20. > :02:22.in a race by his very young team-mate. He went fifth, eighth and
:02:23. > :02:28.seventh. He was beaten by Kevin Magnussen today. What an incredible
:02:29. > :02:36.battle right to the very end. 44 laps of entertainment for us, what
:02:37. > :02:40.about for you? Five. Yes, we played the long game, everyone was jumping
:02:41. > :02:45.early with pit stops, I felt I kept the tyres in good condition. Played
:02:46. > :02:54.the long game and it sort of worked out. I was hoping 4-2 places further
:02:55. > :02:59.up but it did not happen. It was a lot of fun trying, a lot of fun out
:03:00. > :03:06.there and with Sebastien, always very difficult. The car performance
:03:07. > :03:11.was different. His car won the race. It was going to be tough to keep him
:03:12. > :03:15.behind. But a good little battle. Nice to see two McLarens coming over
:03:16. > :03:23.the line together. Was it a clean, fair battle with Kevin? We did not
:03:24. > :03:30.touch. I had to back out. In turn eight. He forced Fernando...
:03:31. > :03:36.Fernando went off the circuit. I lost a place to Fernando, which was
:03:37. > :03:43.a pain. I really enjoyed it out there. Pity it can be two places
:03:44. > :03:48.further up. Only one guy could do that. It was good fun. Good fun to
:03:49. > :03:58.watch and some of the fans having a great time, going back in time with
:03:59. > :04:06.Jordan Grand Prix flag flying. That is my auntie, you lumped it. Before
:04:07. > :04:10.I have to stand between the two of you, Jenson Button desperate to get
:04:11. > :04:14.the fifth spot, Kevin Magnussen going one better than him in sixth.
:04:15. > :04:19.We spoke about Kevin, he has his Mojo back. Very important. We keep
:04:20. > :04:25.talking about it as this season comes to a conclusion. I would be
:04:26. > :04:30.surprised if they make an announcement before the end of the
:04:31. > :04:33.season. They are driving for their seats every single performance.
:04:34. > :04:38.Today Magnusson did a fantastic job, Jenson Button did what he could give
:04:39. > :04:42.and he started in 10th place in qualifying. That is the key thing
:04:43. > :04:45.for him, it is about getting qualifying position. If he can have
:04:46. > :04:53.the upper hand in qualifying we know he is a great race driver. I am
:04:54. > :04:57.thinking to myself, if I was McLaren, we adore and love Jenson
:04:58. > :05:01.Button, he brings so much to the whole paddock, but look at the
:05:02. > :05:08.podium today and you see a rookie in Ricciardo, in Bottas, and a whole
:05:09. > :05:13.heap of rookies. People who are earning very little money but doing
:05:14. > :05:18.outstanding jobs. Then you have this guy and that guy and Bianchi. There
:05:19. > :05:23.is a multitude of high talent here, why pay people tens of millions?
:05:24. > :05:26.Me, as team boss, I would rather spend it on the car because the
:05:27. > :05:30.talent with these young guys, the problem I see, the cars are not
:05:31. > :05:35.demanding enough, not like the old days, it is too easy for them to
:05:36. > :05:40.drive it, not like Nigel Mansell with a neck wider than your five. He
:05:41. > :05:45.was a giant cause they were very hard cars to drive. It is not the
:05:46. > :05:49.case any more. Not taking away from that, it is not easy to drive a
:05:50. > :05:57.Formula One car. Not saying it is easy. It is physical, it is all as
:05:58. > :06:02.been difficult. It is still the fastest form of racing car today in
:06:03. > :06:06.the world, physically they are a lot easier. It used to be the big
:06:07. > :06:12.challenge, you mentioned Nigel's neck. I have lost a couple of inches
:06:13. > :06:18.since then. I would not compare my legs to Nigel's. Back to Kevin
:06:19. > :06:23.Magnussen. Congratulations, greater drive, you had seven years of
:06:24. > :06:29.Formula One world champions in your wing mirrors, an eventful race.
:06:30. > :06:33.Yes, I really enjoyed it to be honest. It was very tough and these
:06:34. > :06:41.guys are very XP reasons that you said. Not easy to keep behind. In
:06:42. > :06:49.the end, D6 and P seven for us this week not too bad. -- P six. Moved up
:06:50. > :06:57.in the construction championship as well. The rest to look forward to.
:06:58. > :07:00.All in all a decent weekend. Frustration from Alonso, he spent
:07:01. > :07:04.quite a long time waving at you, not sure if it was in a friendly way.
:07:05. > :07:09.You are being investigated, tell us about it from your seat. I enjoyed
:07:10. > :07:18.the fight, I thought it was a tough, but fair, fight. It is great when we
:07:19. > :07:23.get to fight like this, I think. We will see. The investigation is on
:07:24. > :07:32.and we will have to speak to the stewards. Kevin Magnussen talking to
:07:33. > :07:37.us. Doing brilliantly, even though he is growing a beard he still does
:07:38. > :07:41.not look older. The new guard coming in. We saw that with Valtteri Bottas
:07:42. > :07:47.in third place, his fourth podium in five races. He really was fantastic
:07:48. > :07:55.out there, he holds it back. Take us through these moves. Easier to do it
:07:56. > :07:59.alongside the straight on the Ferrari. It has bad straight-line
:08:00. > :08:04.speed. As in Rosberg, Rosberg goes defensive, nothing he can do. Bottas
:08:05. > :08:13.making good use of bad straight-line. Vettel running a tiny
:08:14. > :08:18.rear wing, brave enough to hold it around the outside as he goes around
:08:19. > :08:22.six and seven. Then Raikkonen, who is having a well come back to seeing
:08:23. > :08:25.his name in the podium positions for an early part of the Grand Prix.
:08:26. > :08:30.Looking the most comfortable he has. It was not enough to stop
:08:31. > :08:34.Bottas in his charge. I was in Williams with Eddie, we were
:08:35. > :08:42.watching that, the place erupted when he went for third. Another
:08:43. > :08:46.sterling performance by Valtteri Bottas, frustration you did not get
:08:47. > :08:51.more out of it? We started in six and nine after disappointing
:08:52. > :08:56.qualifiers yesterday. It is a difficult circuit but we have a
:08:57. > :09:00.strong car in the dry and if anyone can deliver it is Valtteri. He
:09:01. > :09:05.delivered podium from sixth place in a competitive field. Felipe suffered
:09:06. > :09:12.some tired a breed getting caught in his front wing and tire. -- some
:09:13. > :09:18.debris from tyres. Where you surprised of the pace of Red Bull?
:09:19. > :09:22.Everybody knows their chassis is super quick and Renault are making
:09:23. > :09:25.progress. I am never surprised by what Red Bull can deliver. Had you
:09:26. > :09:30.started further up the grid might you have been able to get second? I
:09:31. > :09:35.would like to think so, but we did not, it is what it is. Looking ahead
:09:36. > :09:37.to Monza, what are your hopes? More points.
:09:38. > :09:39.not, it is what it is. Looking ahead to Monza, what are I don't think we
:09:40. > :09:45.jumped Ferrari, which is what we wanted to do. For Monza it is just
:09:46. > :09:56.another points haul and four Felipe to score points would be fantastic.
:09:57. > :10:04.Do you send some frustration coming into Felipe Massa? No, we talk a lot
:10:05. > :10:07.to him now. Formula One sometimes delivers bad luck and bad results
:10:08. > :10:10.and he has been around long enough to understand and work out ways to
:10:11. > :10:15.deal with it. There is no frustration between him and
:10:16. > :10:21.Valtteri, they are both doing their jobs. And you are happy with the job
:10:22. > :10:27.that Massa is doing? Yes, really happy, he has had some bad luck and
:10:28. > :10:31.that is it. It certainly seems as if he is getting the best out of
:10:32. > :10:48.Williams. Were you surprised with how they qualified. I was surprised
:10:49. > :10:52.at the Mercedes dominance. You can get slightly out of position here
:10:53. > :10:56.and it compounds the mistake. They will have missed an opportunity on
:10:57. > :11:01.tracks they felt would be strong. They have another opportunity in
:11:02. > :11:05.Monza. They have Mercedes power, they will be more worried about the
:11:06. > :11:11.fact that the Red Bull strategy has changed to counteract the loss in
:11:12. > :11:20.speed. Claire Williams said they want third position. Can they take
:11:21. > :11:25.it? I think they will. Psychologically was an important
:11:26. > :11:30.moment for Valtteri because he grew up with a double world champion,
:11:31. > :11:34.Kimi Raikkonen there, and to him to pass psychologically was brilliant.
:11:35. > :11:43.You could see he was overjoyed on the podium. He is clearly up for the
:11:44. > :11:46.fight. Massa has been a disappointment but it is not always
:11:47. > :11:53.his fault. Nevertheless there comes a time where you have to say, look,
:11:54. > :11:57.am I up for this fight? I have a very young driver in the team who is
:11:58. > :12:02.clearly outstanding and finishing in front of me every race will stop he
:12:03. > :12:05.needs to step up to the plate, as much as we love him, he needs to
:12:06. > :12:10.deliver for the team because they have trusted him. They brought him
:12:11. > :12:15.and Rob Smedley and what a transformation that made. He said
:12:16. > :12:19.yesterday that he had signed again for next year and he would be at
:12:20. > :12:28.Williams. We will see how that happens. Let's go back to Daniel
:12:29. > :12:35.Ricciardo, the winner here today. That smile is as big as you like and
:12:36. > :12:40.here he is. Daniel, huge congratulations, a very different
:12:41. > :12:47.victory to your last two but still a lot of pressure. Yes, there was a
:12:48. > :12:52.bit of pressure, it may be looked easier on the TV. I had the lead
:12:53. > :12:59.from early on and had to control it. We knew in the first stint that Nico
:13:00. > :13:04.had some damage and when he fixed the front wing, he was going to come
:13:05. > :13:10.and be strong at the end. We could not rest. When I heard he came in
:13:11. > :13:15.for a third stop, we knew he would be charging hard so I was hoping the
:13:16. > :13:21.tyres would not fall off the cliff. They stayed strong. It was a nice,
:13:22. > :13:26.consistent drive, nice to lead a few more laps and taste the champagne
:13:27. > :13:31.again! You are the only driver out there who has beaten in Mercedes
:13:32. > :13:36.driver, you are taking every opportunity, you must be on cloud
:13:37. > :13:43.nine? It could not have gone better really. Considering everything, and
:13:44. > :13:48.particularly preseason. It has been awesome, I have enjoyed every
:13:49. > :13:54.moment. I am happy to keep it up and let it continue. Monza will be
:13:55. > :13:58.challenging but we have Singapore and Suzuka which should be fun so we
:13:59. > :14:05.will keep going. If they slip up, we are there to capitalise. Looking
:14:06. > :14:08.forward to what should be great tracks for Red Bull later in the
:14:09. > :14:24.season. Let's confirm today's result.
:14:25. > :14:32.It leaves the championship looking like this with that gap now 29
:14:33. > :14:47.points between Nico and Lewis. That is huge to make up.
:14:48. > :14:54.Kevin Magnussen jumps into ninth place. In terms of the Constructors'
:14:55. > :15:00.Championship, just one change with McLaren moving ahead of Force India.
:15:01. > :15:08.We will be back straight after this show on the red button which is
:15:09. > :15:15.always a bit crazy. Do you really understand F1? Sometimes! You need
:15:16. > :15:22.the F1 form a straight after the show for even more. How much is it?
:15:23. > :15:29.It is free! Are you completely crazy! We have analysis and
:15:30. > :15:30.interviews and a bit of fun. Difficult to be sure what will
:15:31. > :15:46.happen. It is this different. Are you joining us? Absolutely.
:15:47. > :15:51.There will be plenty to talk about, a lot of interviews to get into the
:15:52. > :15:57.red button show. Well worth watching. And we will be speaking to
:15:58. > :16:01.Nico Rosberg and getting his take on what happened. I wonder if he has
:16:02. > :16:10.already been spoken to by the team. But we will be back in two weeks
:16:11. > :16:14.time, live in Monza on BBC1 for both days. You can catch all of the
:16:15. > :16:19.action for the Italian Grand Prix and all of the free practice
:16:20. > :16:23.sessions are on BBC Two. You may have heard about this Internet
:16:24. > :16:27.sensation that has been sweeping the globe called the ice bucket
:16:28. > :16:33.challenge. It is for motor neurone disease, started in America, we have
:16:34. > :16:38.all donated to the challenge. And we have been nominated to do it. We
:16:39. > :16:40.thought it would be rude not to do it so we will look a bit like Daniel
:16:41. > :17:24.Ricciardo did earlier. MUSIC. EDDIE JORDAN, IT IS YOUR TURN
:17:25. > :17:31.NEXT. IT CERTAINLY IS! . What a Grand Prix it has been, all the
:17:32. > :17:37.spoils when to Daniel Ricciardo. It was unexpected and unpredicted. We
:17:38. > :17:45.will be back in two weeks. Press your red button now.
:17:46. > :18:49.Phoebe Rundle is the girl for you. But how will I know when it's real?
:18:50. > :18:53.Go back to the factory and I'll sort out the rest.
