:01:17. > :01:20.day in Montreal and what a difference 24 hours makes. Yesterday

:01:21. > :01:25.'s, it was cold, rain in the air but it suited Fernando Alonso and

:01:26. > :01:32.Ferrari. In the afternoon the sun came out and it was Lewis Hamilton

:01:33. > :01:37.who was fastest in his Mercedes. The top of the championship is Nico

:01:38. > :01:43.Rosberg who is four points ahead of Lewis Hamilton. With half of the

:01:44. > :01:51.points in third place is Fernando Alonso. Daniel Riccardo in fourth

:01:52. > :01:57.and Nico Hulkenberg in fifth. In the constructors, Mercedes have 240

:01:58. > :02:01.points after just six races. Ferrari have not won a race since the

:02:02. > :02:14.Spanish Grand Prix last year. McLaren have been struggling. In the

:02:15. > :02:21.pit lane we have Jenny and Tom. What is happening out there today, Tom?

:02:22. > :02:25.It is beautiful conditions. I have been speaking to the teams and they

:02:26. > :02:32.say we will see some quick lap times. Temperature is in the early

:02:33. > :02:39.30s which is where it was at the end of yesterday. But because there is

:02:40. > :02:43.no cloud cover, the tax -- track temperature will get warmer so the

:02:44. > :02:49.tyre temperature will not be an issue and it will be a quick

:02:50. > :02:52.session. The teams will be dialling their cars into these better

:02:53. > :03:02.conditions than yesterday. That is the Ferrari garage, Fernando Alonso

:03:03. > :03:10.not looking to disappointed. You can get involved in the session through

:03:11. > :03:16.social media. We will try to read out as many as possible in

:03:17. > :03:28.commentary. Or you can go to our Facebook page. It would take a brave

:03:29. > :03:33.person to be betting against Mercedes? Absolutely right.

:03:34. > :03:42.Everybody is expecting Mercedes to dominate because it suits their car

:03:43. > :03:44.so well in terms of the entire package? It is perfect, they have

:03:45. > :03:45.mechanical grip and the car is good over the kerbs and the bumps. We

:03:46. > :03:48.have always known since the beginning of the year they have

:03:49. > :03:52.straight line speed. The battle is, who is going to be third as opposed

:03:53. > :03:56.to who will be on the front row. It showed Red Bull and Ferrari will be

:03:57. > :04:02.in the hunt and some of the other teams, customer teams the Mercedes

:04:03. > :04:07.might be in the battle, the likes of Williams and McLaren. There were

:04:08. > :04:10.some good formance is it yesterday and we will look at those. But what

:04:11. > :04:19.glorious picked should we bring you with the sun shining in Montreal.

:04:20. > :04:20.The blue sky is reflect ring with the Bluewater. It is a perfect place

:04:21. > :04:24.and Jackie the Bluewater. It is a perfect

:04:25. > :04:31.Stewart described it as a jewel in this seaway. It is a bit more

:04:32. > :04:38.difficult than some circuits, but we are close to downtown Montreal and

:04:39. > :04:43.it is an opportunity for fans to get into the grandstand and there are

:04:44. > :04:50.some good viewing places. The car is getting ready for this final one

:04:51. > :04:53.hour session. They had two 90 minute sessions on Friday. Lewis Hamilton

:04:54. > :04:59.fastest overall on Friday. Quicker time is coming from the second

:05:00. > :05:02.session when they used the super soft tyre. Hamilton ahead of Nico

:05:03. > :05:12.Rosberg. Third place was Sebastian Vettel. But Raikkonen and Alonso

:05:13. > :05:15.both going well. Then the two Williams and McLaren. It was team

:05:16. > :05:21.order in terms of those top performers yesterday? Yes, no

:05:22. > :05:26.question about it. Williams were a team that were looking good. They

:05:27. > :05:32.looked good in terms of pace will stop but also in the long runs,

:05:33. > :05:38.Felipe Massa was very good, able to keep his tyres with the car. Tyres

:05:39. > :05:46.around here, you have a lot of acceleration, long corners and hard

:05:47. > :05:50.acceleration from low gears. But Williams looked to be in good shape

:05:51. > :05:57.for that. The question with Williams has been their race pace against

:05:58. > :06:04.their practice pace. Hulkenberg was only 13. But they put together a

:06:05. > :06:12.very impressive race run. Massa did a good long-distance run for once.

:06:13. > :06:17.It is one of the problems for the mid-grid area. They need to be able

:06:18. > :06:22.to qualify well and use the good starting position to use the race

:06:23. > :06:25.pace to their best advantage. If you don't qualify so well you are using

:06:26. > :06:31.your race pace to get back where you think you should be. Williams have

:06:32. > :06:38.struggled and had one or the other but not both. Also, Force India. But

:06:39. > :06:42.both of those teams you can see into the top ten, but fighting for a

:06:43. > :06:50.podium position if things go their way. Sergio Perez had a podium

:06:51. > :06:54.finish in Bahrain. It is a circuit like this Montreal circuit of stop

:06:55. > :07:00.and go. Force India like this track, but they were saying

:07:01. > :07:06.yesterday it is about getting the tyres to work effectively on this

:07:07. > :07:10.tarmac. It is a load grip surface? It is, but the circuit is not used a

:07:11. > :07:16.lot so every time Formula One comes here, Friday is effectively cleaning

:07:17. > :07:20.up the dust and dirt that has been lying on the track for nearly a

:07:21. > :07:26.year. When it comes down to Saturday morning. But there is more rubber on

:07:27. > :07:31.it then. The kerbs are very big here so you need to use that

:07:32. > :07:32.it then. The kerbs are very big here advantage. The temperature yesterday

:07:33. > :07:37.was lower than expected and they were struggling with a front tyre

:07:38. > :07:42.temperatures. We saw some fantastic thermal imaging. You can see the

:07:43. > :07:47.tyres getting colder on the straight then heating up re-free on the

:07:48. > :07:53.corners. A few cars out already, getting their initial installation

:07:54. > :08:04.lap. What we can look forward to at the end of the session is bolting a

:08:05. > :08:08.new set of super-soft tyres to get a simulation. We can see you is likely

:08:09. > :08:13.to be challenging and the advantage Mercedes will have today. We are

:08:14. > :08:19.expecting Hamilton and Nico Rosberg to be fighting it out. When it comes

:08:20. > :08:23.to it, Mercedes will have the edge, the question is by how much? Ferrari

:08:24. > :08:28.have made a step forward in terms of aerodynamics. They have a new floor

:08:29. > :08:36.on the cart which seems to be working better. They were swapping

:08:37. > :08:40.between the two drivers. It was Kimi Raikkonen who had it in the

:08:41. > :08:42.afternoon. It seemed to work for them both. Also the engine upgrades

:08:43. > :08:52.are important because you have this them both. Also the engine upgrades

:08:53. > :09:05.big, long straight coming down towards the pit. But I don't think

:09:06. > :09:06.they have made enough of a gap so I think Mercedes are a little bit

:09:07. > :09:07.ahead. Sebastian Vettel was impressive yesterday, closer than

:09:08. > :09:09.expect it. They won here last year, off pole position but this is a

:09:10. > :09:15.different world to 2013. This is a man-made island, done for Expo 67.

:09:16. > :09:18.Now it is used for the Canadian Grand Prix for many years and we

:09:19. > :09:25.hope it will be used for the Canadian Grand Prix for many years

:09:26. > :09:28.to come, if the rumours are correct. Several places here we have talked

:09:29. > :09:36.about already, it is critical to get your line to perfection. It is a

:09:37. > :09:42.street track, but you have a bit more space. But in some places you

:09:43. > :09:49.have not much space and you are up against the wall. That is the nice

:09:50. > :09:55.part about it, it is an old style circuit. It is lined with walls and

:09:56. > :10:02.areas and if you get it slightly wrong, then it does right. The other

:10:03. > :10:06.thing is, it does generally create some good overtaking and some good

:10:07. > :10:14.races with long straights and the hairpins. Fernando Alonso waving to

:10:15. > :10:20.fans and the marshals. Always a huge amount of Ferrari support in Canada.

:10:21. > :10:29.We have seen some great races over the years but it is a long way since

:10:30. > :10:30.Ferrari had a victory here. Michael Schumacher had a string of success.

:10:31. > :10:43.Jenny is with Ferrari now. Looking at the rear of the car. What they

:10:44. > :10:48.have done, Fernando is coming in now, but they have changed the

:10:49. > :10:53.setup. Yesterday they had a new floor on this car. They have changed

:10:54. > :11:00.dramatically and gone back to the old setup. In front of the rear

:11:01. > :11:05.wheel the bodywork ends up rapidly and there is a gap to the rear

:11:06. > :11:10.suspension. They had a longer tailpipe yesterday to see if they

:11:11. > :11:14.could use the gases differently. But they have reverted back to the old

:11:15. > :11:24.type, which is interesting. It we can look at the pit wall, you can

:11:25. > :11:28.see on the end there is a nice man sat there called David Lloyd. He was

:11:29. > :11:33.part of the test team for Harare. He has come back this weekend to try to

:11:34. > :11:37.see if they can help Kimi Raikkonen with some of the communication

:11:38. > :11:42.issues he has been having between himself and his chief race engineer.

:11:43. > :11:46.He works well with English people so be see if it helps him this weekend

:11:47. > :11:53.and then maybe moving forward David will become a permanent part of the

:11:54. > :11:59.race weekend. Thank you, Jenny. Good to see him back. Kimi Raikkonen

:12:00. > :12:03.needing that bit of assistance. Kevin Magnussen coming through the

:12:04. > :12:09.final chicane, where we have seen so many people brush the wall. I think

:12:10. > :12:17.it was pretty clean yesterday, but the other wall was hit by Jules

:12:18. > :12:20.Bianchi? As we see Kevin coming towards the real chicane of the lap

:12:21. > :12:30.and the exit of this one, Jules Bianchi, who was the hero in

:12:31. > :12:36.Monaco, hit the wall. But the wall of champions, the last corner, the

:12:37. > :12:44.paint on the side of that is very clean. At you of your comments

:12:45. > :12:49.coming in. Someone saying, what has gone wrong with McLaren after such a

:12:50. > :12:54.strong first race? Let's go back to Melbourne and the start of the

:12:55. > :12:59.season. Magnusson scored a brilliant podium. In the end it was a second

:13:00. > :13:05.place with Ricciardo's exclusion and Jenson Button was third. Ever since

:13:06. > :13:11.then it has been hard work for the team? Melbourne was the surprise

:13:12. > :13:18.because they had a strong run. The car has always been good in

:13:19. > :13:21.Melbourne. What surprised me, their performance relative to Mercedes has

:13:22. > :13:28.actually got worse per lap, per kilometre. It has got worse as the

:13:29. > :13:32.season has progressed. Even though they got a point in terms of lap

:13:33. > :13:38.time performance, pure speed in the car, it was nowhere near where it

:13:39. > :13:42.should be. Melbourne was about other teams not maximising it as much as

:13:43. > :13:50.McLaren doing a stunning job. Lotus coming away with points in the last

:13:51. > :13:53.couple of races but they have had a difficult start. Maldonado has only

:13:54. > :13:57.got out of the first sector of qualification one time and that was

:13:58. > :14:04.Monaco. Then the car did not start because of a fuel pump problem.

:14:05. > :14:06.Grosjean did score some points there and the previous race, but this

:14:07. > :14:11.event they know they are coming in on the back foot. It is a car slower

:14:12. > :14:15.in a straight line and slower in corners. But they

:14:16. > :14:21.in a straight line and slower in of the changes they made since

:14:22. > :14:24.Monaco have been beneficial. They are learning a lot every weekend.

:14:25. > :14:29.Preseason was a nightmare, they could not get the car out of the

:14:30. > :14:35.garage. Even at the first Grand Prix, Friday was always written. But

:14:36. > :14:38.latterly they have got a bit of reliability and they have been doing

:14:39. > :14:43.big managers over the weekend trying to catch up. They have had

:14:44. > :14:47.definitely a stunning results from Grosjean in Barcelona when he

:14:48. > :14:53.dragged the car into the points. I think this weekend will be tough.

:14:54. > :15:02.They don't have straight-line speed and he has not got much low speed

:15:03. > :15:07.grip. Marcus Ericsson on track. Kobayashi had raking issues trying

:15:08. > :15:18.to get the tyres to warm up. Ericsson getting used to this

:15:19. > :15:29.circuit for the first time. Good result in Monaco last time for

:15:30. > :15:32.Ericsson, finishing 11. But it was a clip by the fact Jules Bianchi went

:15:33. > :15:33.to score some points that were forgotten about. But this rookie

:15:34. > :15:42.driver from Sweden, Marcus Ericsson, has kept his nose clean.

:15:43. > :15:44.The mistake he made in Monaco which affect did Felipe Massa was when he

:15:45. > :15:45.crashed into Felipe Massa during qualifying. But is probably the only

:15:46. > :15:50.serious mistake we have seen so far from Marcus Ericsson as he has

:15:51. > :15:54.stepped up into this first year. It has not been an easy car to step up

:15:55. > :16:02.into. Alan, talking about when drivers make that move from a junior

:16:03. > :16:09.formula, if you are getting into a car at the lower end of the field,

:16:10. > :16:11.it is a bit of a mind Scrabble. You have come from winning in the lower

:16:12. > :16:20.categories, then you are at the back struggling to get the thing to go in

:16:21. > :16:24.a straight line? There are very restricted characters

:16:25. > :16:28.in development in the junior category. Formula One is a much

:16:29. > :16:35.bigger organisation. The lower grade teams don't have all of the assets

:16:36. > :16:38.available to simulate to -- simulation systems, and the driver

:16:39. > :16:41.has got to take a bigger, active part in directing the team forward.

:16:42. > :16:47.If he doesn't have the experience to be able to do that, or some of the

:16:48. > :16:49.skill sets prepared for it, it is a hard world.

:16:50. > :16:55.We saw Sebastian Vettel a few moments ago, there he is once

:16:56. > :16:59.again. Bastion Vettel and Donal Riccardo

:17:00. > :17:03.saying they needed more edge. You can see he is just sat there

:17:04. > :17:09.watching the large screens in this new, revised garage. He has much

:17:10. > :17:15.better access to those greens and we have much better access to us

:17:16. > :17:26.watching them. There is no room for imperfection. You can see some of

:17:27. > :17:30.the guys scrabbling around. They have changed some of the bodywork on

:17:31. > :17:33.the car. If you have a look at the back, maybe you will be able to see

:17:34. > :17:38.it, especially when it goes out on track. It is incredibly tight

:17:39. > :17:42.fitting this weekend. They have had to change the floor on the car as

:17:43. > :17:46.well. It hugs that exhaust like none of the other cars, spectacular to

:17:47. > :17:50.look at. Thank you. Sebastian Vettel looking

:17:51. > :17:55.pretty relaxed. Let's have a look at what Kevin Magnussen has been up to.

:17:56. > :17:59.He sorted that out pretty effectively.

:18:00. > :18:03.Just clipping those kerbs, the red and white of the kerb, that big

:18:04. > :18:08.white section behind it. If you get onto it it is OK, if you get onto a

:18:09. > :18:20.little bit more it kicks the front of the car out.

:18:21. > :18:26.Daniil Kvyat had a tough day yesterday, only managed nine in the

:18:27. > :18:31.second session, they had a fuel leak, had to sort that out. Missing

:18:32. > :18:34.by clubs because he is new to this circuit, not a track they can come

:18:35. > :18:40.and test out, it is only used for the Grand Prix event itself. I know

:18:41. > :18:45.you are watching by the side of the track at one stage earlier

:18:46. > :18:49.yesterday, Allan, and he is looking recovered out there.

:18:50. > :18:53.Very committed. We were standing just add the entry to the final

:18:54. > :18:58.chicane that he is going to come down to in the second or two. At the

:18:59. > :19:01.end of this back straight where you are doing 200 mph, hit the brakes

:19:02. > :19:09.and flickered through over the kerbs. It was a fantastic place to

:19:10. > :19:14.watch. You can see the difference between the rebel cars and the

:19:15. > :19:20.Mercedes, and then there was a bit of a step -- Red Bull cars. When you

:19:21. > :19:26.go down to the likes of Sauber that is when they were struggling, they

:19:27. > :19:29.couldn't hit the kerbs with the same sort of aggression, all a bit too

:19:30. > :19:32.lively. Some good shots of the Sauber which

:19:33. > :19:38.doesn't ride the kerbs as well, doesn't soak them up.

:19:39. > :19:41.It reacts to every little input whether it be the driver input on

:19:42. > :19:50.the throttle or the steering, or the radio.

:19:51. > :19:55.Vibration. How bad is it? You can stop now or we can get them

:19:56. > :19:59.rebalanced? It will be OK. A little bit of feedback from Jenson

:20:00. > :20:04.Button, it will be a new set of tyres, and usual they could get them

:20:05. > :20:09.rebalanced. The thing about here, with all of

:20:10. > :20:13.the long straights, you do feel the vibrations significantly more lap in

:20:14. > :20:19.Monaco where the average speed is much lower. Therefore if you do have

:20:20. > :20:22.something it amplifies it and especially into the likes of here,

:20:23. > :20:30.you are breaking, trying to make the car in.

:20:31. > :20:33.They are coming back to the Sauber, the car looked difficult to drive,

:20:34. > :20:36.reacting to every single thing. The circuit didn't have the inherent

:20:37. > :20:40.grip. If you're struggling to get to Britcher...

:20:41. > :20:48.Talking about the Sauber, it is the other one.

:20:49. > :20:51.He has lost it on entry on the right-hand kerb, spun into the wall

:20:52. > :20:54.on the outside. Let's see what has happened, we are

:20:55. > :20:58.riding on board, let's pick it up. Just lost it on entry, hasn't

:20:59. > :21:03.soon as he started to turn on, the soon as he started to turn on, the

:21:04. > :21:06.rear of the car started to overtake different and instead of aborting

:21:07. > :21:10.the corner and going straight across the grass, he hung onto it may be a

:21:11. > :21:14.little bit too late, you can see the left rear with all the dust getting

:21:15. > :21:18.blown up, dirt on the circuit. Soon as you get your wheel onto that

:21:19. > :21:22.there is very little to recover. Red flag so the session is being

:21:23. > :21:25.stopped. Gutierrez out of lock their full top even though the car spun

:21:26. > :21:29.quite long way across to the other side of the track is still hit the

:21:30. > :21:35.wall fairly hard, rear and front foot there will be some work to do

:21:36. > :21:38.therefore the team. That impact was taken by the rear, first of all,

:21:39. > :21:41.that will have gone into the gear box. That is always a worry for top

:21:42. > :21:48.if you have to change that you end up with a penalty on the grid. Not a

:21:49. > :21:51.good start for Sauber. A mistake by Gutierrez in Monaco costs Sauber

:21:52. > :21:53.what could have been absolutely crucial points, he admitted that

:21:54. > :21:59.error, clipped the crucial points, he admitted that

:22:00. > :22:03.has been a tough couple of weeks. Very, very tough. But the car is

:22:04. > :22:07.tough to drive. It is something we have seen through the course of this

:22:08. > :22:11.year, it has not had the strength in performance or the consistency it

:22:12. > :22:14.had last year. They have been working hard, Adrian Sutil has had

:22:15. > :22:18.few incidents through the course of the season for top city areas has

:22:19. > :22:23.quite often outperformed him but in the last two weeks it has not been

:22:24. > :22:26.his time. We are riding with the on-board

:22:27. > :22:32.camera, they were very quick to recover the car. This does remind me

:22:33. > :22:39.of a sad incident last year with Gutierrez and the marshal died in an

:22:40. > :22:42.accident when they were recovering his car for soccer was that part of

:22:43. > :22:49.the circuit. A very unfortunate incident.

:22:50. > :22:52.Memories with him, a lot of the marshals are wearing black armbands

:22:53. > :22:57.this weekend in memory of Mark Robinson, a tragic mistake made as

:22:58. > :23:01.they recovered his car. Just looking at the damage, a bit of damage on

:23:02. > :23:05.the rear wing, you can see the crumpled left rear tyre. Let's have

:23:06. > :23:10.a look at it in real-time. Immediately, just fighting very

:23:11. > :23:17.likely with the wheel as he starts to turn in. As soon as he has turned

:23:18. > :23:22.the corner it started to go. He wasn't able to get it back. It had

:23:23. > :23:26.gone too quickly, in reality, for him to abort the corner and go

:23:27. > :23:31.across the grass. Difficult start for Sauber, the red

:23:32. > :23:38.flag on this session at the moment. Hopefully we will see a restart.

:23:39. > :23:43.Just over 30 seconds. Quick to get the car out of the way. The session

:23:44. > :23:49.a few moments. Thank you for your comments and questions. Callum says

:23:50. > :23:53.both Williams and Force India looking good but who will come out

:23:54. > :23:57.on top this weekend? I think there will be quite an interesting one.

:23:58. > :24:01.Williams would seem to have the faster car in qualifying, Force

:24:02. > :24:05.India, they have the edge in racing but it could be very even handed.

:24:06. > :24:11.You could probably bring McLaren into that group as well. Red Bull

:24:12. > :24:14.might still be ahead of those Mercedes customer teams that we will

:24:15. > :24:21.have two say, it will be tough for Red Bull. They need perfect laps. We

:24:22. > :24:28.are waiting to see Sebastian Vettel do any flying laps. Hamilton has

:24:29. > :24:32.done an installation lap but no time set. Kevin Magnussen currently

:24:33. > :24:36.fastest. Hulkenberg second stop those times are a bit meaningless at

:24:37. > :24:43.this stage, much to early to draw any judgement. A couple more of your

:24:44. > :24:49.questions coming in. A nice one from Mike, how do the 2014 F1 cars

:24:50. > :24:54.compared to the Lemond 's sports car prototypes for performance?

:24:55. > :24:57.They have closed up considerably, it is a different regulation base will

:24:58. > :25:06.stop you have got pretty much open regulations in sports car racing,

:25:07. > :25:13.with certain total limits. You also are allowed to have different tyre

:25:14. > :25:21.manufacturers. There is an element of tyre development programme.

:25:22. > :25:25.Formula One car has got significantly less downforce, tyre

:25:26. > :25:32.grip, is just under 200 kilograms lighter. Those 200 kilograms make an

:25:33. > :25:36.effect. These cars have got to do a two-hour race whereas in Lamont it

:25:37. > :25:46.is 24 hours. -- Lemond 's. It will be a little strange going

:25:47. > :25:50.back next week, not driving, but you have other duties.

:25:51. > :25:53.It will be fantastic. I am going to have a really nice night sleep for

:25:54. > :26:00.the first time since I was ever there. Going back as the reigning

:26:01. > :26:04.champion, but without having to do the race, now that I have hung up

:26:05. > :26:11.the helmet, it will be different, but there are plenty of duties to

:26:12. > :26:15.keep me occupied. We all hope you have a good weekend.

:26:16. > :26:18.Focusing on what is going on here in Canada at the moment, the Renault

:26:19. > :26:21.engineers looking busy as they try and get their teams to get some

:26:22. > :26:28.extra pace on his long straights and get their teams to get some

:26:29. > :26:37.have in Canada. Straight-line speed topped up about 330, does Brouwer.

:26:38. > :26:43.300 and 27 -- 327. There for places where they are getting to that

:26:44. > :26:47.speed. When you are doing those sorts of

:26:48. > :26:57.speeds, four times around the map, you will have to throw out the

:26:58. > :27:08.anchors to slow the car. 5.5 grams around this. They are getting up to

:27:09. > :27:13.12 degrees. -- 1200 degrees. This is right up there with the toughest

:27:14. > :27:20.races on the calendar for breaks. These temperatures, not a cloud in

:27:21. > :27:24.the sky. It will ramp up, get hotter and hotter. I think the teams will

:27:25. > :27:27.be pleased they are not having to do 70 laps today because that really

:27:28. > :27:30.would be a real test, particularly if there is no safety car for the

:27:31. > :27:37.breaks tomorrow. We have seen, years ago, in the

:27:38. > :27:40.early days of carbon discs, we saw cars go out of this race with

:27:41. > :27:44.exploding desks or massive amounts of dust and where coming from them,

:27:45. > :27:48.and cars having to retire because of its stock they are pretty top of

:27:49. > :27:55.that. Jean-Eric Vergne skating with the wall, did he tragic? A bit

:27:56. > :28:07.further around the lap -- did he touch it. He is a little bit I rate.

:28:08. > :28:10.Pretty strong yesterday, his long-running wasn't as quick as a

:28:11. > :28:14.Williams, for example, or even the Red Bull, but it was running, a very

:28:15. > :28:21.good account of himself up the pressure of Daniel Kvyat has been a

:28:22. > :28:27.good thing for him. Traffic, I think, that is what he

:28:28. > :28:33.was reporting. There are quite a lot of cars, 14 on track. Caveat going

:28:34. > :28:38.well, set a new middle sector time faster than anybody else. Lewis

:28:39. > :28:44.Hamilton on the track, going to complete his first flying lap. It

:28:45. > :28:49.will not be particularly significant. Daniil Kvyat is likely

:28:50. > :28:55.to put in a quick lap. He goes third with that. Maybe learning a little

:28:56. > :28:59.bit by following Lewis Hamilton who is always rapid around the circuit.

:29:00. > :29:03.We go on and on about Hamilton's record. Nico Rosberg has only ever

:29:04. > :29:06.been out-qualified once himself and that was by Lewis Hamilton last

:29:07. > :29:10.year. He always out-qualified Schumacher when they were team-mates

:29:11. > :29:11.at the circuit. We go on and on about Hamilton's record. Nico

:29:12. > :29:14.Rosberg has only ever been out-qualified once himself and that

:29:15. > :29:16.was by Lewis Hamilton last year. He always out-qualified Schumacher when

:29:17. > :29:20.they were team-mates at if you look at the record of it all.

:29:21. > :29:27.Jenson Button jumping over the right-hand curve. Both of them, this

:29:28. > :29:30.year, have been separated by about one tenth of a second, every

:29:31. > :29:34.session, all the way through. If you look at the pure numbers record they

:29:35. > :29:40.don't necessarily tell a total storage, it has been Hamilton's

:29:41. > :29:51.circuit in the last few years. Half a second quicker than the current

:29:52. > :29:55.best of errors. -- Perez. We have got the thermal camera

:29:56. > :30:00.on-board Hamilton's car. You can see the breaks glowing nice and hot on

:30:01. > :30:05.the left, that is a break straight ahead looking into the side pod, the

:30:06. > :30:08.radiator area, where all that heat from the engine is being dissipated.

:30:09. > :30:20.You can just see the top of the tyre as well for top on fastest, lap.

:30:21. > :30:26.Tom, you have got something to add to that? Speaking to Rosberg after

:30:27. > :30:30.the session yesterday. He was really pleased. He said early on his

:30:31. > :30:36.breaking wasn't where he wanted it to be. He said he wasn't happy with

:30:37. > :30:42.the front brakes in particular but by the afternoon he was much happier

:30:43. > :30:44.with his brakes. He says he thinks he can challenge for pole position

:30:45. > :30:47.this afternoon. That is good to hear. Kimi Raikkonen has just gone

:30:48. > :30:55.fastest. What is Fernando Alonso up hear. Kimi Raikkonen has just gone

:30:56. > :31:03.to? He is on his first flying lap at the moment. He is in the

:31:04. > :31:07.to? He is on his first flying lap at think he is building up for a quick

:31:08. > :31:14.run now. Out of the final corner, that is where they go for it. Alonso

:31:15. > :31:19.does go fastest straightaway. The pace resort being developed by

:31:20. > :31:25.Ferrari yesterday seems to be repeated. I don't think it will be

:31:26. > :31:30.enough to challenge Mercedes but it is giving the other is a bit of a

:31:31. > :31:39.scare. Hamilton has taken a big chunk of the time, gone half a

:31:40. > :31:48.second faster than Alonso. We will see what Alonso does on his next

:31:49. > :31:58.lap. Max Chilton has stopped at the end of the pit lane, so there is a

:31:59. > :32:00.problem. They are putting him on the trolley jacks. Marussia at the other

:32:01. > :32:02.end of the pit lane, so it will take a long time to get him back. Bit of

:32:03. > :32:12.a lock-up for the Toro Rosso. No major drama. 26 minutes of this

:32:13. > :32:17.session, we have a red flag for the incident Esteban Gutierrez. But he

:32:18. > :32:25.seems OK. Jenson Button is seventh fastest at the moment. Kevin

:32:26. > :32:34.Magnussen is eighth fastest. Hulkenberg is ninth. Looking out

:32:35. > :32:41.Felipe Massa in the Williams. Someone is asking why Williams has

:32:42. > :32:45.been struggling despite a promising start and despite having a Mercedes

:32:46. > :32:55.engine? I think the problem with Williams... TEAM RADIO: we saw the

:32:56. > :33:01.lock at the turn. Bit of a description to Perez. I think

:33:02. > :33:05.Williams have had a car faster in qualifying but it is looking after

:33:06. > :33:10.the rear tyres. The car has lacked a bit of downforce, but it might not

:33:11. > :33:17.be a factor this weekend? They have definitely had good performance at

:33:18. > :33:21.times but sometimes they have not maximised the way in which they have

:33:22. > :33:27.run the races. Kimi Raikkonen gets close to the outside wall as he

:33:28. > :33:32.comes close to the start and finish line. It is frustrating. Most of the

:33:33. > :33:37.teams have got themselves into a position where you know what the

:33:38. > :33:41.general running order is. If you do have a reasonable reliability, it is

:33:42. > :33:47.in the first four races of the year. We are only 30% through the season

:33:48. > :34:00.but we know who is quite and who isn't now. , Rosberg comes across

:34:01. > :34:09.the line puts him fourth fastest. Raikkonen, lovely shot of the car

:34:10. > :34:15.getting out of shape. Fun to view. Definitely out of shape. This is

:34:16. > :34:29.where Gutierrez crashed. He locked the front. Sutil is struggling with

:34:30. > :34:33.his Sauber later on in the lab. We get some good shots in Canada.

:34:34. > :34:41.Someone is asking do the team still do the rat race? All of the teams it

:34:42. > :34:49.used to build rats and raise them across the rowing lake. This was the

:34:50. > :34:54.Olympic base in the 1976 Olympics. A lock-up for Sebastian Vettel. But

:34:55. > :34:57.no, they don't do it any more. It is all the more serious and there does

:34:58. > :35:04.not seem to be time to do things like that. 2009 was the last time

:35:05. > :35:13.they did it and there were just two entries. After that it fizzled away.

:35:14. > :35:14.Lewis Hamilton has done fastest first and second sector. He is going

:35:15. > :35:18.to come through to, first and second sector. He is going

:35:19. > :35:25.I am sure to put himself further ahead. Williams are the quickest in

:35:26. > :35:33.the speed traps. Every speed trap yesterday, they were quickest.

:35:34. > :35:42.Hamilton using the kerb that he has set a good time. 1.61 from Hamilton,

:35:43. > :35:58.not quite yet, just a miniscule fraction slower. TEAM RADIO: what is

:35:59. > :36:06.the problem? We will get something sorted. What was the problem? Did

:36:07. > :36:12.not quite catch it, I think it is something to do with tyres. This is

:36:13. > :36:18.one area where the Mercedes car looks good, it absorbs the kerbs

:36:19. > :36:27.better than any other and allows the driver to short cut the circus and

:36:28. > :36:36.allows the driver to go across. It tended to be Rosberg yesterday on

:36:37. > :36:43.the first curve. Rosberg has gone fastest. Not quite quick of an

:36:44. > :36:50.yesterday but they are on the harder tyre. We are down to the same level

:36:51. > :36:55.of performance but on the harder tyre. We are thinking about a three

:36:56. > :37:03.quarters of the second gap between the two types of tyres this weekend?

:37:04. > :37:08.It was strange to get the number out of it yesterday. That was the

:37:09. > :37:12.prediction from Pirelli. But in the longer runs, they looked to be able

:37:13. > :37:18.to generally get there and equal it with the soft in comparison to the

:37:19. > :37:24.super-soft. But now at 34 degrees on the track, the air is staying cool.

:37:25. > :37:34.Has a bit of a wind, but the track temperature, the son is beating down

:37:35. > :37:38.on it. Great view of the Red Bull. It does not observe the kerbs very

:37:39. > :37:42.well. It is a shame we did not get the slow motion earlier. That was

:37:43. > :37:49.the correction in the corner as well. When you think of the speeds

:37:50. > :37:53.they are doing and the precision required when they come out to the

:37:54. > :37:59.edge of the circuit, almost all four wheels onto and over the kerb. That

:38:00. > :38:07.is the best, I don't think that particular view, but Mercedes, it is

:38:08. > :38:13.the best car over the kerbs. We were talking about Adrian Sutil. Look how

:38:14. > :38:17.much gap he leaves coming out of the corner, he is hardly touching the

:38:18. > :38:22.kerb, let alone going onto the green. That is because he does not

:38:23. > :38:30.have the confidence to go near that commitment in the chicane. Daniel

:38:31. > :38:39.Ricciardo was only 12 fastest, but it is not representative of what he

:38:40. > :38:44.is capable of doing. Let's see what the lap is like. He is seventh

:38:45. > :38:51.quickest with that at the moment. Vettel is 11th fastest. Christian

:38:52. > :38:56.Horner telling us they may end up finding fifth and sixth places.

:38:57. > :39:00.Probably capable of more than that, because in qualifying trim, the Red

:39:01. > :39:04.Bull has been impressive all season. We just have to wait and see what

:39:05. > :39:08.happens when we get on the super-soft tired towards the end of

:39:09. > :39:19.this session. Nobody lighting up the screens just yet. A fraction slower

:39:20. > :39:24.than Hamilton's first sector. Rosberg gained his advantage in the

:39:25. > :39:32.final sector and that is where he gets his 1.16 1.20 from. Just coming

:39:33. > :39:46.out of the first little sequence. On board with Lewis Hamilton. TEAM

:39:47. > :39:53.RADIO: Nico is now practice one, one 10th in the last corner.

:39:54. > :40:00.RADIO: Nico is now practice one, one then. And oversteer. We saw him get

:40:01. > :40:08.the opposite lock. It is a fraction, six hundredths of a second behind.

:40:09. > :40:14.It just shows again there is absolute fractions between the pair

:40:15. > :40:21.of them. Joining us now is Christian Horner. Beautiful sunny day. We have

:40:22. > :40:26.just seen Kevin Magnusson spinning off as we come to you. Looks as

:40:27. > :40:31.though the car has stayed out of the barrier. Give us a summary of things

:40:32. > :40:37.from your point of view, how did the first day go and what shape are you

:40:38. > :40:42.in? We had a sensible day yesterday. Trying to find the balance between

:40:43. > :40:48.straight line speed and the corner. It is a premium on straight-line

:40:49. > :40:52.speed here. Both drivers got a good feel and we made some setup changes

:40:53. > :40:58.overnight and we are trying them now. We saw some good performances

:40:59. > :41:05.from Ferrari yesterday, have they made a step forward? I think they

:41:06. > :41:11.have. Williams are very competitive here on the long runs. We had them

:41:12. > :41:15.down as the quickest car with Massa yesterday. I think they will be a

:41:16. > :41:20.threat. Mercedes are looking very competitive. We have just seen

:41:21. > :41:26.Hamilton go even faster. Looking at a replay of Kevin Magnusson getting

:41:27. > :41:32.it wrong at the first corner. We have been talking about how some of

:41:33. > :41:38.the cars absorb the kerbs here. McLaren and Mercedes in particular,

:41:39. > :41:43.read or looks more stiff, would that be correct? I think you are probably

:41:44. > :41:50.right. Mercedes have always ridden the kerbs here very well. As have

:41:51. > :41:57.McLaren. The drivers are feeling the car on settled over the kerb, but it

:41:58. > :42:02.is finding that compromise. Christian, it is Alan, you said

:42:03. > :42:05.yesterday you thought fifth or sixth was where you are aiming, but with

:42:06. > :42:13.Sebastian Vettel running in third, are you reassessing that now? If we

:42:14. > :42:17.can get in that area with the cars, that will be a good result. If we

:42:18. > :42:23.can get on the third row, it is a realistic opposition for this

:42:24. > :42:31.afternoon. Finally, the forecast, we are looking at higher temperatures

:42:32. > :42:35.and again for tomorrow? It does not help us that much because we like

:42:36. > :42:39.lots of rain and wet conditions. But it is a beautiful weekend and it

:42:40. > :42:45.looks like it will be hotter again tomorrow afternoon. Thanks for

:42:46. > :42:55.joining us. Sergio Perez in the force India, Lewis Hamilton is top

:42:56. > :42:57.of the times by over half a second from Nico Rosberg. Massa, third.

:42:58. > :42:59.Interesting to hear Christian Horner's comments on Williams

:43:00. > :43:05.yesterday. The teams have access to more data than we have and can do a

:43:06. > :43:08.more studied analysis and work out the fuel loads. It was interesting

:43:09. > :43:13.from Christian comment he sees Williams being a threat? It is not

:43:14. > :43:20.just Massa, it was Bottas. fast and had good straight line

:43:21. > :43:27.speed. They have a racing ability. If they are behind someone they can

:43:28. > :43:29.overtake on the straight. They are five kilometres quicker than anybody

:43:30. > :43:32.else on the straight. That has a detriment in the first sector where

:43:33. > :43:39.there is quite a lot of corners. But overall it is a good package.

:43:40. > :43:51.Williams are third and fourth at a moment. Alonso is fifth, Ricciardo

:43:52. > :43:59.is sixth. Button is 11th, Maldonado in 12th and then Vergne, Perez,

:44:00. > :44:12.Sutil and Kvyat. Grosjean, Chilton and he is ahead of Kobayashi. Y had

:44:13. > :44:17.a difficult day, crushing in the morning and then problems with the

:44:18. > :44:25.car in the afternoon. There has been an improvement from Ericsson in the

:44:26. > :44:30.caterer. The slowest today is Esteban Gutierrez who crashed out of

:44:31. > :44:35.session early on. Just over 20 minutes to go. Beginning to get into

:44:36. > :44:40.the window of opportunity to run the soft tyre. Kimi Raikkonen is

:44:41. > :44:46.mounting some of those super-soft tyres and is out onto the track in

:44:47. > :44:50.his warming up lap. This will give us an indicator of the difference in

:44:51. > :44:55.time between the tyres and the relevance going into qualifying? It

:44:56. > :45:03.is a better indicator than yesterday when it was tricky to read.

:45:04. > :45:07.Raikkonen has got a fast car. He was fourth quickest in the second

:45:08. > :45:10.practice yesterday. Just ahead of Alonso. Feeling comfortable,

:45:11. > :45:18.currently on the back straight dropping back from Kobayashi. There

:45:19. > :45:25.is the man himself, Kimi Raikkonen. dropping back from Kobayashi. There

:45:26. > :45:30.He is on the super-soft tired. This will be used in qualifying. Let's

:45:31. > :45:36.watch the lap with Kimi Raikkonen and see how the Ferrari development

:45:37. > :45:39.will help him. He has won this Grand Prix in the past but has never

:45:40. > :45:43.qualified on the front row. It seems strange when you think of the

:45:44. > :45:49.success he has had over the years when he was driving for McLaren and

:45:50. > :45:57.Ferrari in particular, during his first stint. How is that looking? He

:45:58. > :46:00.is a quarter of a second down at the moment at the first split, but I

:46:01. > :46:06.would expect the second lap on this tyre to be better. It still needs a

:46:07. > :46:12.bit of running to get them totally up to speed. He is starting to get

:46:13. > :46:16.on with it, now he has done three quarters of a lap, he is kicking up

:46:17. > :46:22.a bit of dust. This is the place he has to be careful with a cooler

:46:23. > :46:25.tyre. You can very easily lock up the tyre if it hasn't got the

:46:26. > :46:38.residual dripped all the way through to the core. It is not as great

:46:39. > :46:45.putting the softer tyre on as you would get at other tracks.

:46:46. > :46:49.He has gained nine tenths of a second, but it has only put him

:46:50. > :46:54.third overall. That is the extent of margin Mercedes have. Even putting

:46:55. > :46:57.the super soft tyre on, he is no quicker than the Mercedes were, he

:46:58. > :47:03.is nearly a second slower than Hamilton. Ericsson locked up and got

:47:04. > :47:05.on the grass, he managed to get back on to the track and came to a rapid

:47:06. > :47:12.stop. That was the yellow we saw, Romain

:47:13. > :47:17.Grosjean at the same corner, not getting onto the grass but having a

:47:18. > :47:22.look around. You can see the white patches on the tyre, the flat spots,

:47:23. > :47:26.he has locked up the tyre. Kimi Raikonnen still the only driver

:47:27. > :47:32.to have gone out on the red super soft tyre as yet. Valtteri Bottas on

:47:33. > :47:34.circuit. Let's hear more from Tom. I have

:47:35. > :47:40.circuit. Let's hear more from Tom. and they are saying that these

:47:41. > :47:44.higher haemorrhages will help the soft tyre this afternoon in

:47:45. > :48:00.qualifying because it is designed to work in a higher working range. He

:48:01. > :48:03.said in terms of difference between lap times, you are looking at an

:48:04. > :48:09.average of 0.7, some cards yesterday were only seeing an improvement of

:48:10. > :48:16.about half a second, other teams were seeing an improvement of 0.9.

:48:17. > :48:19.It will be fascinating, he said, over the race distance, they are

:48:20. > :48:25.getting no where problems with either tyre. This afternoon, just

:48:26. > :48:31.who can do what of which tyre. Expect all the top teams to get

:48:32. > :48:36.through Q1 on the soft. This is the same section we saw

:48:37. > :48:41.Ericsson and Romain Grosjean. Exactly the same corner. He got a

:48:42. > :48:44.little bit on the dirt that Ericsson kicked onto the side of the circuit

:48:45. > :48:48.and dipped the wheel onto the grass, it looked like he had got caught a

:48:49. > :48:53.little bit. You are right on the limit, you come underneath the

:48:54. > :48:57.bridge, you hit the brakes about the bridge area, you are trying to let

:48:58. > :49:00.the car float into the corners, releasing the brake pressure and if

:49:01. > :49:07.you get it slightly wrong, there is less grip than you expect for

:49:08. > :49:09.whatever reason, we have seen three drivers into laps suggest there may

:49:10. > :49:13.be something there. Raikkonen backed off and did a slow

:49:14. > :49:23.lap. Took 12 seconds of his QuickTime. Also doing another slow

:49:24. > :49:29.lap, whether that was because he he was in the first sector Mustang. I

:49:30. > :49:38.wonder if he will put in another quick lap? She'll Bianchi is up --

:49:39. > :49:44.Jules Bianchi. We are seeing how they are working,

:49:45. > :49:51.to slow laps, that is also recharging a hybrid energy system,

:49:52. > :49:54.making sure it is at maximum capacity to utilise the fast lap.

:49:55. > :49:59.Now coming round to the first sector. Getting a very good

:50:00. > :50:04.indication, he is to tenths slower than his first timed lap at this

:50:05. > :50:07.particular point. Suggesting the tyres maybe have gone away a little

:50:08. > :50:14.bit with his fast lap and his two cooldown laps.

:50:15. > :50:17.Still might be in the ballpark. Went into deep.

:50:18. > :50:22.Just locked up the right front, went in, got a little bit out of shape.

:50:23. > :50:25.The compromise their, the acceleration down into the hairpin,

:50:26. > :50:29.not so much the engine to the corner, but didn't get as clean and

:50:30. > :50:33.exit, because he was a little bit out of shape in the middle. Looking

:50:34. > :50:39.at the rear tyres, they have got a little bit of graining down the

:50:40. > :50:42.centre part. After 1.75 laps, they are already looking a little bit

:50:43. > :50:45.marked as he was accelerating coming down the chicane.

:50:46. > :50:49.Here he comes, down through the last quarter, very smooth, he doesn't get

:50:50. > :50:56.any oversteer on the exit of the corner, is it any better than his

:50:57. > :50:59.1:16 .5? No, clearly the tyre doesn't come together for a second

:51:00. > :51:07.flying lap, particularly if you have already done to slow laps. -- two

:51:08. > :51:11.slow laps. Very different yesterday in that

:51:12. > :51:17.respect, the track temperature is 35 degrees, it started about 30, 31.

:51:18. > :51:21.That has an effect. Still waiting to see anybody out on

:51:22. > :51:28.the super soft, work going on on the front of Lewis Hamilton's car. A bit

:51:29. > :51:31.of setup work, interesting set of changes, suspension changes going

:51:32. > :51:35.on, and the Mercedes, leading into qualifying. They are allowed to

:51:36. > :51:41.change whatever they like before we get into qualifying, but once the

:51:42. > :51:45.green light comes on, in qualifying, it is effectively in park for me and

:51:46. > :51:49.they cannot change the car from that point on unless it rains and they

:51:50. > :51:52.can make some minor changes. He has got super-soft tyres on. They are in

:51:53. > :51:55.their tyre blankets will stop he will becoming offer a quick lap in a

:51:56. > :52:12.moment. Just watching Bianchi come across the line. Just gone quicker

:52:13. > :52:26.than children. -- Chilton. Kobayashi is in the 20s. Nico Hulkenberg, he

:52:27. > :52:28.has scored at every Grand Prix so far this year, along with Fernando

:52:29. > :52:34.Alonso and Nico Rosberg, the only driver to have achieved that. In the

:52:35. > :52:37.points each time. I wonder if he can maintain it here in Canada. Their

:52:38. > :52:41.race runs were looking good but their technical director yesterday

:52:42. > :52:47.were saying they did have a lot of thinking to do. Clearly they had a

:52:48. > :52:50.good race car but they were worried about their single lap pace and were

:52:51. > :52:54.going to have to think about whether they changed their philosophy.

:52:55. > :52:58.Overtaking is quite possible here, isn't it?

:52:59. > :53:01.They have been very good at running 1-stop less than everybody else in

:53:02. > :53:04.the race. That is partly because they had to because they quite

:53:05. > :53:10.qualify as well as they would have hoped for. Hulkenberg, especially,

:53:11. > :53:15.has grabbed the points out of the car. He has been able to get the car

:53:16. > :53:19.into positions where you wouldn't have expected given the qualifying

:53:20. > :53:23.performance. They don't have the one lap pace, as we have just seen he is

:53:24. > :53:26.half a second off after the first sector and you would expect him to

:53:27. > :53:34.draw back even further now as he comes into the second. This will put

:53:35. > :53:38.him up into two or three tenths behind Kimi Raikonnen.

:53:39. > :53:45.Such a competitive area. They will all be in that area. Hulkenberg's

:53:46. > :53:49.best qualifying has been seventh place. His team-mate had a fourth on

:53:50. > :53:54.the grid in Bahrain where they ended up having a dice between the two of

:53:55. > :54:00.them and Perez emerged with a fine, podium finish. Not as quick as

:54:01. > :54:05.Raikkonen in the end. That puts him in fifth place, quite some way off.

:54:06. > :54:09.It may be Force India will have to look to the race rather than

:54:10. > :54:16.qualifying. RADIO: I think some changes. Understood.

:54:17. > :54:24.He likes it, he has traded out, harder tyre. -- tried it out on the

:54:25. > :54:29.harder tyre. Fernando Alonso is the next driver out on the super-soft

:54:30. > :54:31.tyre. Three tenths of in the first sector in comparison to Lewis

:54:32. > :54:37.Hamilton. As he goes through the second sector he is another 10th and

:54:38. > :54:42.a bit down, but this looks like now we are on with Fernando Alonso, he

:54:43. > :54:45.is exhilarating at the hairpin, comes down the long straight towards

:54:46. > :54:52.the final chicane, this will put him into third place on a minimum.

:54:53. > :54:57.Can he challenge the times Mercedes have done on the harder tyres? You

:54:58. > :55:01.would hope you would get up amongst them. He is third, behind the

:55:02. > :55:09.Mercedes, three tenths slower than Rosberg. He is on a tyre that should

:55:10. > :55:14.have given him a decent bit of extra speed. Hamilton is out now, so is

:55:15. > :55:19.Rosberg, on the super-soft tyres. We will really get an idea of how fast

:55:20. > :55:25.the Mercedes can do. Rosberg, the first of the two on the lap.

:55:26. > :55:28.Hamilton has only just come out onto the circuit. We will get a bit of an

:55:29. > :55:33.idea for stop the first sector, Rosberg not quite that quick.

:55:34. > :55:37.We have seen this on a few occasions where they build up the tyres in a

:55:38. > :55:40.different way to other people, they sometimes do quite a slow first lap

:55:41. > :55:48.and then it is a second lap where they get really into it. The other

:55:49. > :55:54.thing round here is to make sure... RADIO: looking into it, we will have

:55:55. > :55:59.it sorted. Something went on at the garage.

:56:00. > :56:02.Jenny, do you have an idea? I withstood by his car as he was going

:56:03. > :56:06.to leave the garage. The guys signalled for him to drive away,

:56:07. > :56:10.usually they drive away at a relatively high speed but he coasted

:56:11. > :56:13.out, it sounded like he couldn't engage gear. He coasted as far as

:56:14. > :56:17.the end of the pit lane, the team came out, they were ready to go and

:56:18. > :56:21.retrieve him, and he went out onto the lap. I'm not sure what problem

:56:22. > :56:24.was. Incredibly slow, snail pace out to the edge of the pit lane.

:56:25. > :56:27.That is interesting. He is busily to the edge of the pit lane.

:56:28. > :56:32.concerned about that. They are working on, make sure it doesn't

:56:33. > :56:35.happen again. At the end of the day when you have got a rivalry as

:56:36. > :56:40.intense as this any little mishap between either car could end up

:56:41. > :56:42.making a massive difference in the championship. What is happening

:56:43. > :56:46.further down the pit lane at Red Bull?

:56:47. > :56:49.At least Lewis Hamilton was going at a snail space out of the pits

:56:50. > :56:55.because Sebastian Vettel is currently going nowhere, he is

:56:56. > :57:01.looking as data in his cockpit. Still a lot of work going on with

:57:02. > :57:08.his car. The mechanics are very busy indeed. What is going on with the

:57:09. > :57:17.soup is -- Super-G soft tyres? Rosberg has done another reasonably

:57:18. > :57:25.slow lap. Lewis Hamilton, 15.6, they are building up, trying to get a

:57:26. > :57:28.gap. Now there are quite a lot of cars on the circuit. Rosberg coming

:57:29. > :57:33.down the back straight. Marcus Ericsson is going into turn one. It

:57:34. > :57:38.looks like this people have a clear run. Adrian Sutil is putting in his

:57:39. > :57:49.qualifying simulation comic that is watching and breaking up --, let's

:57:50. > :57:53.watch him breaking. He crashed out of the tunnel in the Monaco Grand

:57:54. > :57:57.Prix, that led to the safety car during the race. It led to the fact

:57:58. > :58:02.Hamilton was never able to challenge his team-mate. Hamilton is up on the

:58:03. > :58:07.split times on his super-soft tyre, just set a new fastest middle

:58:08. > :58:10.sector. He has got a clear run, shouldn't get too much stop Adrian

:58:11. > :58:17.Sutil will jump a little bit. Let's see what he does, he goes from

:58:18. > :58:24.mating .2 is to 17.9, he only gained three tenths of a second -- 18.2.

:58:25. > :58:31.Let's see what the gain is on the super-soft tyre? No gain, he is

:58:32. > :58:37.slower. Isn't that interesting. The final sector, he didn't put in a

:58:38. > :58:43.particularly quick final sector, let's look at what Alonso did. He

:58:44. > :58:49.went straight on. These temperatures are as Thomas telling us sitting the

:58:50. > :58:55.harder of the two tyres really well. The quick tyres seem to be coming

:58:56. > :58:58.from those tyres rather than the super-soft. Even on one lap,

:58:59. > :59:02.struggling. They seem to be at the moment. If

:59:03. > :59:07.you don't get it on the peak of the lap, if for whatever reason you get

:59:08. > :59:11.traffic or something, the other thing is if the tyre is starting to

:59:12. > :59:15.move underneath you, a funny feeling, it is like you're sitting

:59:16. > :59:18.on top of a sponge or something, you don't have the feeling that the

:59:19. > :59:22.tyres with you when you turn into the corner. It takes a little bit of

:59:23. > :59:25.time to settle and get the grid. Sometimes the harder compound, it

:59:26. > :59:30.links in and takes you through the corner.

:59:31. > :59:36.I think Felipe Massa will go quick on the super-soft tyres. 16.8 so

:59:37. > :59:45.far, he gains for tenths of a second so he does gain a bit of speed.

:59:46. > :59:53.Valtteri Bottas found the same. Kobayashi's car being moved out of

:59:54. > :59:57.the way, problems there. He had done a good first sector then suddenly

:59:58. > :00:01.slowed in that sector. Implies some thing has gone wrong with the car.

:00:02. > :00:05.For tenths gained by Williams, Mercedes not being anything but

:00:06. > :00:10.Rosberg did do a quick lap but he was a tenths slower than he had been

:00:11. > :00:21.on the soft- Williams seemed to be getting more out of the softer tyre

:00:22. > :00:24.than Mercedes. Some teams, depending on how the car works it looks like

:00:25. > :00:28.it could be a cross over between them. They put on the super-soft and

:00:29. > :00:34.expect it to be faster. The car does not react in the same way. Hamilton

:00:35. > :00:40.had a nice long run on the super-soft and we thought it was

:00:41. > :00:44.fantastic. Then he put the soft on, which is the harder of the two and

:00:45. > :00:53.went quicker. Admittedly with less fuel in the carb but it is not as

:00:54. > :00:57.clear-cut as expected. Tom, I believe you are with Ferrari? I

:00:58. > :01:04.wanted to update what they are doing. Well everybody is hanging in

:01:05. > :01:10.lap times, Ferrari are just going through the pits doing prep this

:01:11. > :01:16.starts. Interesting tack Tick. It starts here, and it is a short run

:01:17. > :01:23.to the first corner. Ricciardo has just gained six tenths on his

:01:24. > :01:27.super-soft run. Maybe Mercedes are not showing us what they can do.

:01:28. > :01:32.Keeping it a bit in their pocket? Forgot to say. Whereas is 12th

:01:33. > :01:41.fastest. Hulkenberg is ninth. It looks like Force India will struggle

:01:42. > :01:45.to qualify well. It is Mercedes, Williams, Ferrari and Red Bull. That

:01:46. > :01:52.kind of order. A mix-up between the different team-mates but Mercedes

:01:53. > :01:58.are 12, and Red Bull are currently fifth and 13th but we have not seen

:01:59. > :02:06.Vettel do his soft tyre run. Jenny? I have just been speaking to some of

:02:07. > :02:11.the tyre guys at Mercedes and I asked the question could it be the

:02:12. > :02:16.fuel load. That has been ruled out. Yesterday Mercedes had problems with

:02:17. > :02:20.degradation with the super-soft, more than any other team so it might

:02:21. > :02:26.be the way they are using them. So they reckon they are better on the

:02:27. > :02:32.soft tyres. Interesting, whether that leads to different tyre use

:02:33. > :02:41.this afternoon, we will wait and see. Massa, that is his fastest lap

:02:42. > :02:50.of the session. Watching him yesterday in the last chicane, he

:02:51. > :02:58.was changing up a gear right on the second apex? His team-mate wasn't

:02:59. > :03:01.initially but later it in the session he started to do it. He was

:03:02. > :03:03.using the engine, as we see Kobayashi sitting at the side of the

:03:04. > :03:05.circuit. He was using the engine braking to bring the car up to gap

:03:06. > :03:09.the procession towards the apex and then having to short shift a little

:03:10. > :03:19.bit to get clean out of the second part. Mercedes are on top but there

:03:20. > :03:22.is an interesting situation with how they use the tyres and if other

:03:23. > :03:29.teams are getting more out of the softer tyre. Maldonado comes out of

:03:30. > :03:36.the last corner. He has done a one .17 .6 and moves up a little bit.

:03:37. > :03:41.Puts him just ahead of his team-mate, Romain Grosjean. But we

:03:42. > :03:49.are yet to see Grosjean's run on the softer tyre. He is in 16th place at

:03:50. > :03:56.the moment. He has done a slow lap on the soup soft tyre. Certainly

:03:57. > :04:02.McLaren not showing the same competitiveness as they did

:04:03. > :04:12.yesterday. One teams showing a competitive level is sorrow Rosso

:04:13. > :04:17.with Kvyat in eighth and Vergne in ninth. It looks like they are in the

:04:18. > :04:26.mix of it just ahead of Force India with Hulkenberg in 11. It is close

:04:27. > :04:30.between Kvyat and Vergne. We have a yellow flag out there but you're

:04:31. > :04:38.watching Jules Bianchi. It is all clear now, so he will not get a

:04:39. > :04:45.problem. Bianchi is 18th but has just done 1:18.5, six tenths

:04:46. > :04:55.slower... TEAM RADIO: is it worth trying another time lap? Will we

:04:56. > :05:07.improve? That was interesting, Magnusson does not think he will

:05:08. > :05:11.improve. Impressive stuff from Kvyat again because he had limited laps

:05:12. > :05:17.and he is a first-time visitor to this track. Vergne loves this

:05:18. > :05:21.Montreal circuit. The chequered flag is out, Grosjean is up to 13th but I

:05:22. > :05:26.think Lotus will be struggling to get into the top ten.

:05:27. > :05:30.think Lotus will be struggling to in that session. McLaren, it is a

:05:31. > :05:35.worry to hear that comment from Kevin Magnussen when yesterday it

:05:36. > :05:43.was so promising? Yesterday they were quick out of the, but they

:05:44. > :05:46.reached the level quickly. Things have evolved, track temperature has

:05:47. > :05:57.gone up and they seem to be able to get to their performance level by

:05:58. > :06:01.practice to. Williams will be happy and as Christian Horner told us,

:06:02. > :06:06.they are keeping an eye on the Williams team and Massa confirmed

:06:07. > :06:13.that with a 1:16.02 split the two said he is. Will he be having a bit

:06:14. > :06:18.of luck for a change? In Monaco he was taken out in qualifying right

:06:19. > :06:23.Marcus Ericsson. He is due a bit of luck. Mercedes first and third.

:06:24. > :06:28.Ferrari showing promise from yesterday may deliver. They have had

:06:29. > :06:33.one start from the second row of the grid this year, but Alonso is

:06:34. > :06:39.fourth. Ricciardo in fifth and I think it will be interesting to see

:06:40. > :06:47.what red all can do. Raikkonen his sixth. Outside the top ten we have

:06:48. > :06:53.Hulkenberg and Magnusson. Both Mercedes powered cars. I had

:06:54. > :07:00.Grosjean, Perez and Maldonado. Button is in 16th place. Sutil is in

:07:01. > :07:07.17th ahead of Bianchi he was just slightly faster than Max Chilton.

:07:08. > :07:12.Ericsson was quicker than Kobayashi, but we saw him soft on what would

:07:13. > :07:19.have been his fastest lap on the super soft tyres. Gutierrez went out

:07:20. > :07:23.earlier on in this session with a crash. The only car to crash out in

:07:24. > :07:30.this session. Allen, quick thoughts from you? I think Mercedes are

:07:31. > :07:34.ahead. Whatever they are doing with the tyre side of things, they have

:07:35. > :07:41.speed. But the battle for the second row is good with Williams, Ferrari

:07:42. > :07:45.and then I think you can probably expect one of the rebels. Not sure

:07:46. > :07:51.both of them but one of them could be fighting in that mix as well. It

:07:52. > :07:56.will be a tight battle for the last part of Q3. McLaren need a good

:07:57. > :08:02.nullifying performance. Felipe Massa is satisfied with his work. Can he

:08:03. > :08:08.take the challenge to Mercedes? Do Mercedes have a problem getting the

:08:09. > :08:12.best out of the super-soft tyre. The only two cars who did not do their

:08:13. > :08:16.best time on the super-soft was the Mercedes. Maybe the extra downforce

:08:17. > :08:24.they get from the car over works the tyre. We will find out later on in

:08:25. > :08:29.qualifying. Nice to see Massa up there, but nice to have a battle on

:08:30. > :08:34.our hands. We did have a read like from Esteban Gutierrez. He lost

:08:35. > :08:38.control and could not keep it out of these unforgiving walls. Lots of

:08:39. > :08:44.Mexican fans here supporting Gutierrez and Perez. Lots of work

:08:45. > :08:51.ahead for the Sauber team to do. They have not had a podium this

:08:52. > :08:55.year. They had a podium two years ago thanks to Perez. Not much time

:08:56. > :08:59.between the sessions. We are back on BBC One in just an hour. But from

:09:00. > :09:03.me, thanks for watching. Goodbye.
