:02:33. > :02:42.Welcome to China. Welcome to Formula One.

:02:43. > :02:47.Happy Easter and welcome to Shanghai for highlights of the Chinese Grand

:02:48. > :02:52.Prix. We are experiencing warmer conditions than yesterday, but it is

:02:53. > :02:58.not raining. This is the fourth of the season. The final long haul

:02:59. > :03:03.before we head back to Europe. Spain and Monaco are next.

:03:04. > :03:24.Red Bull are struggling in the Constructors' Championship. Force

:03:25. > :03:30.India hold their highest position in second.

:03:31. > :03:41.A familiar face in the paddock to take us through today. A new face in

:03:42. > :03:45.the Ferrari garage. Stefano Domenicali goes out and Marco

:03:46. > :03:49.Mattiacci comes in. Fresh to motorsport. It will be interesting

:03:50. > :03:55.to see how he gets on as team principal. After three races, it is

:03:56. > :04:01.almost too late for this season, it is he here to facilitate 2015? His

:04:02. > :04:05.role is to bring them together and nurture talent and over the next few

:04:06. > :04:09.weeks and months he will have to learn who are the good guys, who do

:04:10. > :04:13.the drivers think not appropriate to be there and to do some serious

:04:14. > :04:20.headhunting, because it is not working at the moment. Mercedes has

:04:21. > :04:27.stolen a march on the championship. The racing between Nico Rosberg and

:04:28. > :04:32.Lewis Hamilton in Bahrain was epic. Arguably some of the best racing we

:04:33. > :04:37.have seen in a decade. Hats off to Mercedes in this era of having the

:04:38. > :04:46.facility to impose team orders, they let them go at it, we'll to wheel.

:04:47. > :04:50.In the end, in this particular race, I was going to say street fights,

:04:51. > :04:56.but we are not in Monaco, but in this, Lewis threw down the gauntlet

:04:57. > :04:59.and said to Nico Rosberg, if you want the championship, I know what

:05:00. > :05:06.the challenges like, you will have to work harder. It does not matter

:05:07. > :05:10.they are dominating the championship as long as you have rivalry within

:05:11. > :05:20.the team. We could see a season like 1988. That was when they won 15 of

:05:21. > :05:26.the races. We are a long way away to be able to say they will dominate

:05:27. > :05:32.the season. At the drivers both want to win and the team are prepared to

:05:33. > :05:38.let them go at it. Different conditions. Qualifying was in the

:05:39. > :05:42.wet. On a saturated circuit the team

:05:43. > :05:49.struggled, but especially McLaren, who did not get into the top ten.

:05:50. > :05:57.Kevin Magnussen was disappointed in 15th, Jenson Button starting 12.

:05:58. > :06:03.Kimi Raikkonen failed to get into the top ten. Fernando Alonso got to

:06:04. > :06:09.fifth. Mercedes have been fast, but Nico Rosberg made a mistake on his

:06:10. > :06:14.first fast lap. Red Bull managed to get both cars in front of Rosberg's

:06:15. > :06:19.Mercedes but Daniel Ricciardo again got his car in front of Sebastian

:06:20. > :06:24.Vettel. He had to settle the bird as Ricciardo put it on the front row.

:06:25. > :06:31.Lewis Hamilton was six tenths ahead. He takes his third pole position of

:06:32. > :06:36.the season. I was nervous at the end because I did not do another lap. I

:06:37. > :06:45.was nervous they were going to beat the time. Lewis has never won three

:06:46. > :06:51.consecutive races in Formula One and he hopes to change that today.

:06:52. > :06:54.Ricciardo has out-qualified Vettel more times this year already the

:06:55. > :07:33.Mark Webber managed throughout the whole 2013 season.

:07:34. > :07:39.Astonishing form from Lewis Hamilton. We are witnessing

:07:40. > :07:46.something special. This is a track he has gone well at, with four pole

:07:47. > :07:56.positions in total. And also 34 in total, the best Brit ever. Nico

:07:57. > :08:01.Rosberg goes well. It seems to sit the Mercedes. Is that the nature of

:08:02. > :08:07.the track? It is a track your Lewis has done well at in the past. In

:08:08. > :08:11.this year of Formula One, Mercedes have such good harvesting of the

:08:12. > :08:16.power, they are faster on the straight line, which plays to the

:08:17. > :08:21.strength of the circuit. It seemed from qualifying yesterday that's Red

:08:22. > :08:25.Bull have a good car. They have a very good chassis. If they had a

:08:26. > :08:44.Mercedes engine they would go quicker. The Red Bulls 20 kilometres

:08:45. > :08:52.slower. Lewis has a nice buffer. I think very quickly he will get past

:08:53. > :08:59.the Red Bulls and will try to catch his team-mate. Yesterday we saw

:09:00. > :09:02.Williams seeming to take a step forward in the wet. But McLaren seem

:09:03. > :09:08.to be going backwards with neither getting into the top ten shoot out.

:09:09. > :09:13.It is confusing. They led the constructors after Melbourne and

:09:14. > :09:21.they have gone backwards. It is the first time they have had two cars

:09:22. > :09:28.not there. We have not spoken to much about tyres this year, but it

:09:29. > :09:33.is China, so we have do, Tom. This will be about tyre management.

:09:34. > :09:37.The rear tyres are the limiting factor usually but here it is the

:09:38. > :09:41.front tyres, and the front left in particular as a result of long

:09:42. > :09:45.right-hand corners on the track. Assuming they keep the tyres alive,

:09:46. > :09:54.two stops is the fastest way to the chequered flag. We will see fuel

:09:55. > :09:57.saving but not as much as in Albert Park and Bahrain. Pastor Maldonado

:09:58. > :10:03.did not complete a single lap yesterday but he has a new engine

:10:04. > :10:11.today, the same specification as his team-mate. Now the grid.

:10:12. > :10:21.You are having a last minute chat, any concerns? Not really. It is a

:10:22. > :10:25.long race. I think where we start is where we started Friday morning. We

:10:26. > :10:32.will see what we can do. You start second today, and almost clear view.

:10:33. > :10:35.You managed to out-qualified Sebastian Vettel more times this

:10:36. > :10:41.season the Mark Webber last season. What is the key to this? I am

:10:42. > :10:49.comfortable with the car and the package this year. I am driving

:10:50. > :10:55.well. Driving with a clear mind. I do not have too much to lose. I am

:10:56. > :10:58.happy with what I am doing. We have not spoken about tyres much, how

:10:59. > :11:04.much will this race come down to that today? It will play a big part.

:11:05. > :11:12.The fronts take a beating around here and that will be the most

:11:13. > :11:15.challenging race yet for tyres. Not the qualifying you would have liked.

:11:16. > :11:21.It seems McLaren are slipping, what will you be able to do this

:11:22. > :11:26.afternoon? This afternoon is about trying to make the front tyres last.

:11:27. > :11:32.A clean race would be good from here. Great to see you starting

:11:33. > :11:37.again in the top ten, what will it come down to to get in the points?

:11:38. > :11:43.We had a good qualifying and I will try to make a better race. We need

:11:44. > :11:50.to transfer this good position into good points. You are looking

:11:51. > :11:55.focused, what you expect today? I hope for a good race. It will be

:11:56. > :12:01.difficult on the dry, so I hope we can do everything right. How many

:12:02. > :12:07.stops? It can be possible two for many cars so let's try to do that.

:12:08. > :12:13.How confident are you that the problems will be over for today? If

:12:14. > :12:25.it stays dry I am confident. It is called macro, but we will be find

:12:26. > :12:35.the temperatures, I think. -- cool. If Lewis Hamilton wins today it will

:12:36. > :12:38.be his 25th. He will equal Jim Clark and Niki Lauda. Over to your

:12:39. > :13:01.commentators. Unbeaten this year except by

:13:02. > :13:06.mechanical gremlins in Australia, Lewis Hamilton leads the grid away

:13:07. > :13:09.as we prepare for the start of the Shanghai Grand Prix, riding on board

:13:10. > :13:18.the McLaren. Kevin Magnussen starting way back, in 15, and Jenson

:13:19. > :13:22.Button starting in 12 addition. Everybody away safely -- 12th

:13:23. > :13:26.position. We will have to wait to see what Nico Rosberg does on the

:13:27. > :13:34.first lap. He is starting in fourth place. A dry race, different

:13:35. > :13:39.conditions. We will see who will perform in the conditions and who

:13:40. > :13:45.will look after their tyres. Tom, any late news? We can listen to

:13:46. > :13:59.Rosberg first. RADIO: We have no telemetry. Perfect start. Just

:14:00. > :14:03.right. Tom. It is the usual chaos on the formation lap as the mechanics

:14:04. > :14:08.are running pass me flat out to the pit boxes. As we heard from Massa,

:14:09. > :14:14.the quickest way to get to the end of the races two stops. Because it

:14:15. > :14:18.was wet in qualifying, everybody is starting on brand-new tyres. Not a

:14:19. > :14:23.set that has done three laps, which is normally the case when qualifying

:14:24. > :14:31.is dry. That will help it to be more of a two-stop race. Force India, a

:14:32. > :14:36.magnificent second at the moment in the constructors. A brilliant

:14:37. > :14:40.performance in Bahrain. You have to think that Red Bull might have

:14:41. > :14:45.something to say about that in this race with both cars up there in the

:14:46. > :14:52.top three. You are riding with Sebastian Vettel onto the long, long

:14:53. > :14:56.straight. 1.1 kilometres. We will see plenty of DRS overtaking, I am

:14:57. > :15:04.sure, long that straight. The Williams team have both cars in the

:15:05. > :15:10.top ten. The Williams have shown they have basic good race pace. They

:15:11. > :15:15.have not been able to deliver the big result in the first three Grand

:15:16. > :15:26.Prix. This will be an opportunity for them. They have the speed in a

:15:27. > :15:27.straight line, but probably not the same car performance as Red Bull

:15:28. > :15:46.through the middle sector. Very slow lead-up to the line by

:15:47. > :15:54.Lewis Hamilton. What is this all about? Very, very slow, as you say.

:15:55. > :15:58.Wanting it to bunch up. When you're in pole position, you can find

:15:59. > :16:03.yourself sitting there for one minute before the last car comes

:16:04. > :16:08.around and lines up. It means your engine is overheating and of course

:16:09. > :16:14.you are losing temperature from your tyres. The Marussia and the

:16:15. > :16:19.Caterhams are coming through the last corner. It has not had the

:16:20. > :16:23.desired effect. So, it is Hamilton and Ricciardo on

:16:24. > :16:29.the front row. Vettel starting third. Rosberg is fourth. Alonso

:16:30. > :16:34.from fifth. Massa, driving for Williams. He starts in sixth. Bottas

:16:35. > :16:42.is seventh. So the two Williams close together. Hulkenberg is in the

:16:43. > :16:46.top ten as is Grosjean. Keep an eye on Raikkonen and Button. They are

:16:47. > :16:50.starting from further back. But, potential, of course, to make sure

:16:51. > :16:59.way through into the top ten. It is time for the showdown in Shanghai.

:17:00. > :17:09.Light Lights out - away we go. A good start for the Red Bull. Alonso

:17:10. > :17:14.is up to third. Contact with Mercedes, touching the other

:17:15. > :17:19.Williams. A barging match to the first corner. Second place for

:17:20. > :17:23.Vettel. Alonso battling with him. Alonso, I think, still in third

:17:24. > :17:29.place, thought he might get alongside Vettel. Alonso is on the

:17:30. > :17:33.attack. Look at him go on this opening lap!

:17:34. > :17:42.He may have started 18 of his races for Ferrari from eighth place on the

:17:43. > :17:45.grid. He is the demon starter! Hamilton with the initial advantage.

:17:46. > :17:58.That is what he was trying to get away. Vettel and Alonso. Listen.

:17:59. > :18:04.Well, something about Alonso. Massa is in fifth place. You have

:18:05. > :18:09.Hulkenberg and Rosberg. Rosberg in seventh position.

:18:10. > :18:16.Magnussen is just behind him as well. So, that is an attempt, but it

:18:17. > :18:21.didn't quite come off there, I think. In fact, Button, yes, still

:18:22. > :18:27.holding on to the place. Hamilton it is, as they come down

:18:28. > :18:33.the straight. Still people jockeying for position. Grosjean trying to

:18:34. > :18:39.protect his position. They come through turn 14 there. Hulkenberg,

:18:40. > :18:46.doing his utmost to get past the Mercedes. Into the final corner.

:18:47. > :18:52.Rosberg just fends him off. Rosberg - perfect start, perfect start.

:18:53. > :18:59.There was contact between him and the Williams around the apex of turn

:19:00. > :19:04.one. Has he got any damage to that car? So Massa is in fifth place. The

:19:05. > :19:08.other Williams you are looking at there - Bottas, is down in tenth

:19:09. > :19:14.position, with Kimi Raikkonen now behind him. So, we'll have to wait

:19:15. > :19:18.and seed what happens there. But, not a great get away for them.

:19:19. > :19:23.and seed what happens there. But, Bottas, when he was deep inside the

:19:24. > :19:27.top ten. Kimi Raikkonen, after a disappointing qualifying, now trying

:19:28. > :19:34.to pick up the places, where possible.

:19:35. > :19:42.Up front, there's no doubt it is Lewis Hamilton. Alonso has dropped

:19:43. > :19:50.back a bit now in third, after being so racy on that opening lap.

:19:51. > :19:55.Grosjean is holding on well. He is in eighth place at the moment in the

:19:56. > :19:59.Lotus. They have gained some performance.

:20:00. > :20:03.Kobayashi is the lead at the back there of the quartet of the

:20:04. > :20:21.Caterhams and Marussia. Mercedes against Mercedes power.

:20:22. > :20:29.Kimi Raikkonen is asking of his engineer what is happening with the

:20:30. > :20:36.speed - "I have no power at all." Magnussen saying it feels like he

:20:37. > :20:41.has damage on the front ring. Romain Grosjean here with Felipe Massa

:20:42. > :20:43.putting a charge in there. Jenson Button trying to get around the

:20:44. > :20:56.outside of Jean-Eric Vergne. Button has got through here. He's

:20:57. > :21:02.squeezed past! A great pass.

:21:03. > :21:07.Up towards the next little hairpin at turn six. Here we are. Button

:21:08. > :21:15.will now try and go after the next one, which is Perez. Sergio Perez

:21:16. > :21:19.made a good start. A good first lap - gained several places. One of the

:21:20. > :21:24.gainers rather than losers. He gained three places on that opening

:21:25. > :21:29.lap. There is Bottas. As you say, challenged by Romain Grosjean. That

:21:30. > :21:31.is for eighth place, currently ninth place it is now. Kimi Raikkonen,

:21:32. > :21:46.tucked in behind them, . Every time Kimi Raikkonen's car has

:21:47. > :21:50.been on track there's been a problem with it. So he's not been able to

:21:51. > :21:56.show representative performance. Next time around the DRS will be up

:21:57. > :22:01.and available and they'll be looking to overtake down at this section.

:22:02. > :22:06.Rosberg will have to use it to maximum effect, as he will try and

:22:07. > :22:12.pass Felipe Massa. That is what we'll all be watching for now.

:22:13. > :22:16.Maldonado right at the... That is Grosjean with Raikkonen. Maldonado

:22:17. > :22:21.trying to get past Kobayashi, the last time we saw him. He's still

:22:22. > :22:26.tucked in behind Rosberg. Having a good look at trying to get past

:22:27. > :22:31.Felipe Massa. Couldn't quite manage it into the ever-tightening turn

:22:32. > :22:36.one. Massa fends him off. Good improvements for the Williams team.

:22:37. > :22:43.They have put bits on the car which they hope will look after the rear

:22:44. > :22:51.tyres. Let's see if the Williams goes for a longer stint this time.

:22:52. > :22:56.They are looking at the set-up with light levels of... Watch his get

:22:57. > :23:01.away here! He gets bogged off. You have Massa in the Williams. There is

:23:02. > :23:07.contact with the Ferrari of Alonso. Watch this, as he comes a uf the

:23:08. > :23:11.line, he -- comes off the line. You see the contact with Bottas and

:23:12. > :23:15.Rosberg as well. Amazing there was no damage to any

:23:16. > :23:21.of those cars. Well, there could be of damage for all we know and we

:23:22. > :23:25.will monitor it. That was a hefty clout with Rosberg. We had not seen

:23:26. > :23:30.that initially. Alonso went on the attack, didn't he? He tried to get

:23:31. > :23:36.the opportunity from around the hairpin. Let's see it from Massa's

:23:37. > :23:42.point of view. Pulls across out of the slipstream. At this point the

:23:43. > :23:47.contact was made. Alonso was squeezing over. I don't see there

:23:48. > :23:53.was anywhere Massa could go. It was wheel on wheel contact and no

:23:54. > :24:00.damage. Let's see it from Alonso's point of view. You see Massa at his

:24:01. > :24:07.in inside and well it looked like it was six and two threes there!

:24:08. > :24:13.This is it from Rosberg. Almost stalls as he drops the clutch. That

:24:14. > :24:17.is where it went wrong for him. Not enough RPM. You see Massa going up

:24:18. > :24:23.on two wheels and you see the contact with his team-mate.

:24:24. > :24:27.Well, strong front suspension in that Mercedes. Both Williams have

:24:28. > :24:32.ended up jumping in the air on this start. Look at this again. Massa was

:24:33. > :24:37.moving to the left. I think that was just a racing incident. Rosberg had

:24:38. > :24:41.better sight of Bottas in the Williams than he had. I don't think

:24:42. > :24:45.he was trying to squeeze him out I wouldn't expect any action from the

:24:46. > :24:50.stewards. Rosberg, in the slipstream. He's just done this.

:24:51. > :24:55.He's passed Felipe Massa. He has moved into fifth position. That is

:24:56. > :25:00.how he did it, using DRS. Rosberg is on the climb now. Hamilton has

:25:01. > :25:04.opened up the three-and-a-half second gap over Sebastian Vettel.

:25:05. > :25:09.This is working perfectly for Lewis Hamilton. It is. Crucially, he's

:25:10. > :25:13.eight seconds ahead of Rosberg, who in terms of pure performance around

:25:14. > :25:17.the circuit, Rosberg should be able to work forward.

:25:18. > :25:22.Unless something goes wrong for Hamilton, it is difficult to imagine

:25:23. > :25:27.anyone being able to stop him this afternoon. Ricciardo not far away.

:25:28. > :25:32.He's going to be under pressure from Rosberg. Hulkenberg chased by

:25:33. > :25:38.Valtteri Bottas. Both Williams look OK, David, despite both being

:25:39. > :25:43.bounced in the air it is surprising. It was wheel-to-wheel contact.

:25:44. > :25:49.That other one looks like it should have done some damage. With carbon

:25:50. > :25:57.suspension there is not much you can bend. The days you had steel

:25:58. > :26:04.suspension you could end up bending your rods. It appears the angle of

:26:05. > :26:08.contact was fwh the strong area of - was in the strong area of

:26:09. > :26:15.suspension. You don't want to take too much out of your suspension. It

:26:16. > :26:18.looks like they have surpassed any normal racing strength-test. Let's

:26:19. > :26:36.run you through the top ten. The one who has lost more than

:26:37. > :26:43.anyone on that opening sequence, Jean-Eric Vergne. He is down in

:26:44. > :26:49.14th. Let's look at the tyres. Hamilton has reported the tyres were

:26:50. > :26:53.OK. They expected to see heavy left p front grading. We have not

:26:54. > :26:58.expecting to have any in the race. So, we will get you to start looking

:26:59. > :27:05.at the fuel later. It is OK at the moment.

:27:06. > :27:12.Probably not ideal. It is not. Hamilton is running a faster lap

:27:13. > :27:16.time. 43.2. If you assume that, with the accuracy of Formula One, that he

:27:17. > :27:25.should not be using more fuel than his team-mate, then that gives him a

:27:26. > :27:32.back-up. Into the pit s - already. Sutil - and that is a blow. They've

:27:33. > :27:38.had a sequence of non-finishes. Sutil looks like he could be out of

:27:39. > :27:48.this race. It will be the third he's had this

:27:49. > :27:52.year. Left-front graining. Can we see that? Can you see evidence of

:27:53. > :27:58.it? You see a different colour on the tyre. We will get a better view

:27:59. > :28:03.if we get another shot, especially as he goes through one of the

:28:04. > :28:08.right-hand corners. He's hanging in there well. We wondered if after

:28:09. > :28:12.Friday, where he was quickest in one of the sessions, whether he was

:28:13. > :28:21.flattering to deceive. Alonso is hanging in there behind Hamilton.

:28:22. > :28:26.That is right. He's not miles away. It is encouraging for Ferrari, after

:28:27. > :28:32.Bahrain, which has seen changes to the management. . Tyres looking

:28:33. > :28:38.quite good. On the left front, but not any problems. Soham ham sounded

:28:39. > :28:43.very confident -- so, Hamilton sounded very confident. He continues

:28:44. > :28:47.out in front by 5.3 seconds in the early stages of the Chinese Grand

:28:48. > :28:52.Prix. We see Vettel in second place, chased by Fernando Alonso. The

:28:53. > :28:58.second Red Bull is Daniel Ricciardo. Under attack from Nico Rosberg.

:28:59. > :29:07.Felipe Massa stays ahead, using Nico Hulkenberg. He has Valtteri Bottas

:29:08. > :29:13.in the other Williams. They are Mercedes-powered. The top speed on

:29:14. > :29:18.the straight, Nico Rosberg. 334 kilometre per hour. That gets your

:29:19. > :29:24.attention when you hit the brakes. They will come through turn 13. The

:29:25. > :29:30.tyres, front left, well over 100 degrees they drop to 60 degrees by

:29:31. > :29:32.the time they get into 14. Of course, that has an effect on the

:29:33. > :29:50.actual pressure within the tyre. It makes sense they are going for

:29:51. > :30:00.the harder tyre. An early stop the Jenson Button. It was a good stop.

:30:01. > :30:06.2.6 seconds. We could see a different strategy from McLaren as

:30:07. > :30:17.they try to scrape together points. That is a sobering view for Jenson

:30:18. > :30:30.Button as he is last man running. Tom. The McLarens were only getting

:30:31. > :30:35.five or six laps from the option tyres before having to change them

:30:36. > :30:40.and it is ironic that last year's race was won on a three-stop

:30:41. > :30:48.strategy and McLaren were the only team to do a two stop. It looks like

:30:49. > :30:52.the reverse this time around. Teams will be reacting according to the

:30:53. > :30:59.sort of life they are seeing from the tyres and the lap times they are

:31:00. > :31:06.delivering. Hamilton, 1.6 seconds faster than Vettel in second in the

:31:07. > :31:15.last lap. RADIO: Graining on the front left. Understood. There are no

:31:16. > :31:19.good gaps behind. They mean it is not a good time to bring you into

:31:20. > :31:30.the pit and if they did they would drop him back into traffic and he

:31:31. > :31:36.will not game from that. -- gain. On Friday, it looks like Red Bull have

:31:37. > :31:41.this handle. Daniel Ricciardo, there was a big difference with Vettel.

:31:42. > :31:46.Vettel was getting graining while Ricciardo did a long run of 18 laps

:31:47. > :31:51.on the option tyres. He said the key to that was starting softly and not

:31:52. > :31:55.pushing too hard. In the early laps it was interesting to see him

:31:56. > :32:00.letting Vettel get away a little bit and the gap is now stabilising. It

:32:01. > :32:08.will be interesting to see if he can close it. It looks like there was

:32:09. > :32:12.some lock-up from Alonso. That graining could we affecting the

:32:13. > :32:19.amount of grip he has on the front tyre. Hulkenberg in the seventh as

:32:20. > :32:25.he exits that turn onto the straight. He is chasing Felipe Massa

:32:26. > :32:31.and is also being followed by Bottas, who is just outside DRS

:32:32. > :32:37.range. Grosjean is holding on to his place. Last year, Lotus finished

:32:38. > :32:49.second courtesy of Kimi Raikkonen. They could not match Fernando

:32:50. > :32:53.Alonso, who won 12 months ago. Bottas and Grosjean, headed for the

:32:54. > :33:01.pits. Hamilton one seconds quicker than Vettel that last lap. He will

:33:02. > :33:09.win this at a canter if you can keep up this pace. Grosjean for his first

:33:10. > :33:15.pit stop and he goes on to the medium tyre, the harder of the two

:33:16. > :33:20.compounds. Following the strategy of Jenson Button. He will be ahead of

:33:21. > :33:27.him when he joins again. Coming into traffic, he is with the caterings

:33:28. > :33:36.and the Marussias. Maldonado has not been able to get past Kobayashi. The

:33:37. > :33:41.latter in 16th and only two seconds behind Kevin Magnussen. So he is

:33:42. > :33:50.doing a fine job. This is the lock-up. He got away with it. He

:33:51. > :33:57.pumped the brake pedal. The graining does not look as bad as what we got

:33:58. > :34:01.used to last year. They bring a specific tyre for this circuit to

:34:02. > :34:04.try to combat the extra loads you see at high speed and also the

:34:05. > :34:17.length of the corners in Turn 1 and behind the pits in turn seven. We

:34:18. > :34:27.might see the 210 mph mark I can later in the race. -- Mark broken.

:34:28. > :34:32.Bahrain was a great track for Force India. I do not think they felt the

:34:33. > :34:35.car would be quite so competitive here and it looks as though the

:34:36. > :34:41.Williams have found something as Bottas puts pressure on. He has the

:34:42. > :34:50.advantage of being in the DRS own. Gaining another ten kilometres per

:34:51. > :34:57.hour, depending on the efficiency. Massa, Kimi Raikkonen, Sergio Perez,

:34:58. > :35:03.going for the harder tyre. Something has gone wrong is a Massa. A very

:35:04. > :35:12.slow stop. It looked like the wrong wheel was brought to the car. Oh,

:35:13. > :35:17.dear. A horrible stop the Massa. Dropping him way down the field.

:35:18. > :35:30.They cannot get the left rear fitted. This is such a shame. His

:35:31. > :35:44.hands in the air with exasperation. As they take of the old set, the nut

:35:45. > :35:57.goes with it. They have had to remove the not manually. -- nut.

:35:58. > :36:02.Eriksson made a pit stop in the Caterham, but that will have dropped

:36:03. > :36:07.Massa to the tail of the field. Another lock-up from Hulkenberg,

:36:08. > :36:18.giving Bottas the chance. Is he coming in this lap? Yes, he is. I am

:36:19. > :36:22.sitting waiting. The mechanics are getting the medium tyre out to the

:36:23. > :36:30.sitting waiting. The mechanics are Hulkenberg. -- for Hulkenberg.

:36:31. > :36:32.Alonso has gone through the medium tyre. Did you get any view of what

:36:33. > :36:39.went wrong with the Williams stop? I tyre. Did you get any view of what

:36:40. > :36:43.did not see that. Sergio Perez was in at the same time. If Williams

:36:44. > :36:48.were trying to put on the wrong tyre, that is the second time in as

:36:49. > :36:53.many days Massa have that problem. In qualifying, he said in Q3 the

:36:54. > :36:57.team put intermediates, which meant he had to go onto used in Q3 the

:36:58. > :36:59.team put intermediates, which meant he had to go on to used

:37:00. > :37:11.intermediates when the track was at its best at the end of Q3. That was

:37:12. > :37:17.an error. Hulkenberg out again. He came out in front of Grosjean. And

:37:18. > :37:22.Kimi Raikkonen. He was battling with those drivers at the lower end. We

:37:23. > :37:28.will have two see if it works out for Hulkenberg, trying to get points

:37:29. > :37:33.out of the race today. His team-mate Sergio Perez might struggle.

:37:34. > :37:40.Hamilton leading, virtually one second per lap. An incredible pace.

:37:41. > :37:58.He is in a zone around this racetrack. RADIO: There is possibly

:37:59. > :38:02.rubber in the front wing. They do not have telemetry but he will be

:38:03. > :38:10.able to feel as we have Vettel in from third. An important stop. Going

:38:11. > :38:15.onto the harder tyre. He could probably still do this on a two

:38:16. > :38:20.stop. Some of those who have already stopped might have to go for three

:38:21. > :38:27.stops. We can see whether Ricciardo can look after his tyres as well as

:38:28. > :38:32.he did in practice. The Toro Rosso gets out of the way. That helped him

:38:33. > :38:41.move along a little bit. He made a mistake, he pulled in from third, he

:38:42. > :38:52.was running second. RADIO: two or three mile Ops. -- up. He had given

:38:53. > :38:57.the message there was serious graining and so he has not been able

:38:58. > :39:03.to make his tyres go as far as Ricciardo. It will be interesting to

:39:04. > :39:08.see of the strategy works. You expect Vettel to be faster on the

:39:09. > :39:12.fresh tyres. Alonso is ahead of Vettel, both of them having made the

:39:13. > :39:16.stop. Alonso had been trying to get past him in the early stages and so

:39:17. > :39:26.this pit stop has worked the Ferrari. What we call the undercut.

:39:27. > :39:40.The fresh tyre working in favour. RADIO: Box, box, box. Tom. We spoke

:39:41. > :39:43.about the undercut and how you get an advantage by pitting first. What

:39:44. > :39:48.you have to be careful with this track is that does not mean you have

:39:49. > :39:52.to make your last pit stop a view laps earlier than the person you are

:39:53. > :39:57.racing, otherwise you run out of tyres at the end. We saw that with

:39:58. > :40:02.Kimi Raikkonen in 2012 when he dropped from second to 10th place in

:40:03. > :40:11.one lap when his tyres went over a cliff edge towards the end. Nico

:40:12. > :40:20.Rosberg makes his pit stop. He will come back out behind Jean-Eric

:40:21. > :40:24.Vergne. He has not made a stop yet. We saw him move ahead of Nico

:40:25. > :40:28.Hulkenberg at the early stage. It is interesting when you see how close

:40:29. > :40:34.Hulkenberg is, how the early stop worked. This means the Mercedes

:40:35. > :40:38.could go for a two stop whereas Hulkenberg might have to go for

:40:39. > :40:53.three. It depends how long they get on the harder tyre. As the circuit

:40:54. > :41:00.robbers in -- rubbers. They have gone early. On board with Sebastian

:41:01. > :41:08.Vettel and that is how close Alonso is in DRS range. They do not have

:41:09. > :41:16.the same straight-line speed as Mercedes but the Ferrari is faster

:41:17. > :41:24.than the Red Bull. RADIO: Ricciardo the only car in the pit window at

:41:25. > :41:34.the moment. Ricciardo, not far-off. He is not able to close the gap. The

:41:35. > :41:41.engine -- engineer, saying how far he was ahead, effectively he would

:41:42. > :41:46.be seven seconds behind Ricciardo. They will be hoping to see Ricciardo

:41:47. > :41:55.stop ahead of Hamilton, to allow him a clean stop. Kimi Raikkonen making

:41:56. > :42:09.a move on the lotus of Grosjean. Did he lose the place again? He may have

:42:10. > :42:14.made it stick. This is Bottas. He gets a much better drive than

:42:15. > :42:21.Gutierrez of 13 and before the DRS zone he is able to affect the pass.

:42:22. > :42:28.Hulkenberg, sorry, Perez, finding his way past Jenson Button, fighting

:42:29. > :42:36.for 14th. Out of the bites, which is surprisingly varied in mind they are

:42:37. > :42:49.Mercedes powered. Both have been podium finishes. RADIO: Do you think

:42:50. > :42:57.it is worth? Confirmed. That is to get out of the dirty air. To try to

:42:58. > :43:01.make this stint as long as possible. This is about the battle to second.

:43:02. > :43:17.Playing into the hands of Daniel Ricciardo. This will be interesting.

:43:18. > :43:21.Will he come out behind Alonso and Vettel? I do not think there is any

:43:22. > :43:34.chance of him being in front. He has gone onto the hard -- harder tyre.

:43:35. > :43:46.Where will Nico Rosberg be relative to Ricciardo? Fairly tight. He has

:43:47. > :43:56.so much more speed. Hamilton will now be able to make his stop.

:43:57. > :44:12.There is another Red Bull and Ferrari to deal with. Raikkonen is

:44:13. > :44:20.still chasing Magnusson. The Mercedes has so much pace. RADIO:

:44:21. > :44:26.Surprisingly, the front tyre is still good, as well as the rear.

:44:27. > :44:30.Hamilton is loving it, everything is great. Magnusson has not made a pit

:44:31. > :44:33.stop and is going deeper into the race than we would have expected.

:44:34. > :44:39.Jenson Button stopped early. They have gone the different strategies.

:44:40. > :44:44.He started on the harder tyre. It will be interesting to see how far

:44:45. > :44:49.he can go. Probably 20 laps on the harder tyre. There are marbles on

:44:50. > :44:56.the right side of the track, more than we have seen in the first

:44:57. > :45:07.Grands Prix of the season. That is the effect of the long corners in

:45:08. > :45:12.China. It looks as if the revised Renault engine has more horsepower.

:45:13. > :45:20.Vettel was struggling against the Ferrari. Grosjean used DRS and will

:45:21. > :45:25.be well past. That brings him up a position and puts him into ninth

:45:26. > :45:33.place. Magnusson in ten from this different strategy. Look at that -

:45:34. > :45:39.he's all over the curb and the car doesn't look like it's got any grip.

:45:40. > :45:44.It has been a difficult start for McLaren, after that great run in

:45:45. > :45:49.Melbourne. Does Hamilton have a lock-up here? He was careful to get

:45:50. > :45:54.off the brake. He knows there is plenty of run-off. He's not worried

:45:55. > :46:00.about the run-off area. That is right. He doesn't have to take any

:46:01. > :46:06.risks. No threat from behindch he has not made a pit stop -- from

:46:07. > :46:14.behind. He has not made a pit stop. He's 30 seconds ahead. That cost him

:46:15. > :46:21.seconds last time around. A beautiful set up for a two-stop race

:46:22. > :46:29.here. He's made the tyres last longer than anybody else. He is

:46:30. > :46:37.looking after the tyres beautifully. Cautious entry into the pit then.

:46:38. > :46:44.Let's watch the pit stop. No pressure on the team. Paddy turns

:46:45. > :46:49.back to look at the monitors and things going according to plan for

:46:50. > :46:53.Lewis Hamilton, who will come out comfortably ahead. Alonso is in

:46:54. > :47:00.second place. It is interesting the gap is not as big as you may have

:47:01. > :47:05.expected. That was a cautious pit stop from Lewis Hamilton. I think

:47:06. > :47:10.that is Magnussen on the inside. Yes, it is. Magnussen, on those

:47:11. > :47:15.tyres, which have done so much, he's doing all he can to femed off the

:47:16. > :47:22.Mexican and in comes Magnussen to the pit. He's done an 18-lap stint

:47:23. > :47:43.on the hard harder tyre. Hopefully the soft tyre may last

:47:44. > :47:49.more. When you cross the start/finish line, read the number

:47:50. > :47:57.on the low lower left of the dash. 71.9.

:47:58. > :48:04.Copy, copy! So, you have more fuel at this point. So fuel is good!

:48:05. > :48:11.Magnussen around the outside. Kobayashi... That was impressive.

:48:12. > :48:18.He's gone for the soft tyre. He's loving the grip he's got. He made a

:48:19. > :48:24.move on Maldonado there. It has moved him into 15th position. Pastor

:48:25. > :48:41.Maldonado is ahead of him now. Towards the back is Felipe Massa,

:48:42. > :48:51.after that awful pit stop. The final runner is Marcus Ericsson. Only one

:48:52. > :48:55.car out, that was Adrian Sutil. That's not the comfort zone he had

:48:56. > :48:58.earlier in the Grand Prix. He wanted more than that. If you have traffic,

:48:59. > :49:02.if you have some incident you have to deal with, then that

:49:03. > :49:07.four-and-a-half seconds could be heated up very quickly. He's put in

:49:08. > :49:11.a quick lap, Hamilton. We'll have to wait and see what happens. Right now

:49:12. > :49:20.Hamilton is doing everything he needs. Let's get some news from Tom.

:49:21. > :49:26.We have tried to find out about that pit stop of Williams. . I got

:49:27. > :49:38.confirmation they were trying to put the left right on the right rear of

:49:39. > :49:42.the tire. Car. Oh, dear, an operational error. He's about to

:49:43. > :49:51.pass Chilton, I believe. The procedures they go through,

:49:52. > :49:56.obviously each team will have their own procedures. The tyres going on

:49:57. > :50:02.the car will be sitting there, plugged into their blankets. The

:50:03. > :50:08.front right will grab his and the sequence is like that. In theory it

:50:09. > :50:13.could not be possible to pick up the wrong tyre. Either they were out of

:50:14. > :50:19.sequence or they were stacked incorrectly. Jenson Button not that

:50:20. > :50:27.quick. Pace is good. Only the Mercedes are quicker than you. You

:50:28. > :50:32.are quicker than Alonso and Vettel. That is good for him. Alonso is in

:50:33. > :50:37.second place. It is interesting that Hulkenberg has been reporting on his

:50:38. > :50:42.radio that he's getting grain graining. He's now on the harder

:50:43. > :50:48.tyre. They are both subject to graining. It is to do with the track

:50:49. > :50:50.surface and temperature, which is at 23 Celsius - at the lower end of

:50:51. > :51:08.what these tyres a like. Rosberg is getting on the back of

:51:09. > :51:16.Vettel. As you see, McLaren out front. See

:51:17. > :51:22.how much it is struggling to get the power down. See the straight-line

:51:23. > :51:29.speed - pulls on the straight. Will catch up through 12. And then,

:51:30. > :51:34.he'll get on the better drive in 13. Rosberg with his DRS open. This is

:51:35. > :51:39.Vettel on turn one. This is for third position. Rosberg getting

:51:40. > :51:45.closer and closer to the Red Bull now as Hamilton leads by 5.8

:51:46. > :51:50.seconds. Alonso is four seconds ahead of these two. Vettel was

:51:51. > :52:00.taking it steady to look after his tyres now, he is now having to work

:52:01. > :52:04.hard. He was wide there. Rosberg's pressure is about to tell. This

:52:05. > :52:08.should be like taking candy from a kid. I know the last time I tried

:52:09. > :52:13.off my five-year-old, it was not easy! So, I need a different

:52:14. > :52:16.expression for how relatively easy this should be for Rosberg to

:52:17. > :52:19.overtake! He's coming up to the zone in which

:52:20. > :52:26.to do it, of course. All he has to do is keep it neat and

:52:27. > :52:30.tidy and close to the back of the Red Bull as they come up to 11 and

:52:31. > :52:35.12. Look at the fuel use here. You can see Rosberg deeper into the

:52:36. > :52:40.green than Vettel for the race. Vettel has been saving fuel. You can

:52:41. > :52:44.tell by the lap percentage. Vettel has been saving some fuel, maybe to

:52:45. > :52:50.give himself more of a boost later in the race. For the race itself,

:52:51. > :52:55.Vettel is a little marginal. He's having to save on the lap. Here

:52:56. > :52:59.comes Rosberg. Vettel quite aggressive there. Look up from

:53:00. > :53:04.Rosberg. They both run deep. Vettel will try and get it back on the

:53:05. > :53:09.exit. Two German drivers side by side here. Rosberg has it for the

:53:10. > :53:16.final turn. Vettel has to give it up. A big slide through from

:53:17. > :53:20.Rosberg. He has DRS now. It is a very open turn one. Not a big

:53:21. > :53:24.braking at all into that corner. We know the Red Bull has a good

:53:25. > :53:29.chassis. He should be able to stick with the Mercedes.

:53:30. > :53:32.Rosberg fends that off. He still has to have a good run out of this

:53:33. > :53:36.corner. This is playing into the hands of Ricciardo. He aeling be

:53:37. > :53:41.able to close that gap up. He was 1.5 seconds behind. He will not for

:53:42. > :53:50.long. Ricciardo will close up, thanks to all

:53:51. > :53:58.Fair play to Vettel for not giving it up to Rosberg. Whether that

:53:59. > :54:03.proves costly, now it has allowed his team-mate to get in the zone. He

:54:04. > :54:14.has more straight-line speed. Trying to develop this package. Will that

:54:15. > :54:19.cost them later in the race? RADIO: Think about that most now.

:54:20. > :54:31.Rosberg will have to catch and pass Alonso. He has got tremendous pace.

:54:32. > :54:37.Look how much quicker he's been going than Vettel. Much, much

:54:38. > :54:42.faster. Will we hear another radio message about, I can go faster than

:54:43. > :54:47.him? Will it be a battle? Vettel defends. He's not letting his

:54:48. > :54:53.team-mate through at this juncture. His team-mate, on fresher tyres - in

:54:54. > :54:57.theory, he should have like-for-like, better performance.

:54:58. > :55:02.This will give Ricciardo another opportunity. Vettel holds the

:55:03. > :55:07.insideline. He's not close enough there. He moves to the outside.

:55:08. > :55:15.Vettel defends. Tricky to go around the outside, as we saw. Vettel's

:55:16. > :55:20.tyres do seem to be giving up grip a little now, being that bit older.

:55:21. > :55:26.Through one, two and three. I wonder what Christian Horner is thinking!

:55:27. > :55:31.We are on board here with Ricciardo, up towards turn six. No opportunity

:55:32. > :55:34.here, I think. They have to be careful they don't lose too much

:55:35. > :55:40.time. Hulkenberg is only eight second behind them. If they get into

:55:41. > :55:44.the battle, that will allow Force India, but looking good on fuel

:55:45. > :55:50.usage so far between the two cars. They are on it for the race target.

:55:51. > :55:55.Over the lap Ricciardo using slightly less and nothing really to

:55:56. > :56:00.choose between them, as you would expect. You mention Hulkenberg not

:56:01. > :56:08.far behind them. He's in sixth place.

:56:09. > :56:17.Trying to get the good exit. Did he lose a bit there? Definitely. An

:56:18. > :56:22.issue through 13. That has allowed Vettel to open that gap. DRS pops

:56:23. > :56:29.open. RADIO: Let Daniel through, please.

:56:30. > :56:34.Vettel being told to let him through. He was not close enough. He

:56:35. > :56:40.will not like that message. You could see the rear of the car

:56:41. > :56:44.lifting when he opens the DRS. That takes a load off, pushing down

:56:45. > :56:46.through the wing. That reduces the drag and allows the car to go

:56:47. > :56:58.faster. Red Bull just getting these guys to

:56:59. > :57:04.sort it out. As you say, the pressure from behind. This is

:57:05. > :57:08.fascinating to see Vettel now in two races in succession being asked to

:57:09. > :57:10.get out of the way of Daniel Ricciardo. Ricciardo seems to have

:57:11. > :57:25.the edge here in Shanghai. I think that means he will not let

:57:26. > :57:31.him through. That is exactly what it means! We'll have to see. "Tough

:57:32. > :57:35.luck," he says! This is the hard edge of Sebastian Vettel that you

:57:36. > :57:40.don't ulds see when he's chatting to the -- you don't always see when

:57:41. > :57:45.he's chatting to the media. I understand what he's saying - like

:57:46. > :57:50.Massa. Didn't want to move over for Bottas a few races ago. It is very

:57:51. > :57:56.early in the race. He has dropped back as per the instructions from

:57:57. > :58:02.Ferrari. He has not been able to run his race as clean as he would like.

:58:03. > :58:10.Daniel getting into a position now. He's done 15kms less on the tyres.

:58:11. > :58:14.He has the DRS open. Vettel goes defensive. Ricciardo down the

:58:15. > :58:19.outside. Definitely no way that Sebastian Vettel is responding to

:58:20. > :58:20.that message and letting him through. He'll fight for his

:58:21. > :58:33.position here. Remember when he was told to let

:58:34. > :58:38.Webber through. A good opportunity here. Vettel takes it wider.

:58:39. > :58:43.Ricciardo gives him space. That was interesting! I didn't think he would

:58:44. > :58:50.let him in there. There's a massive amount of speed on the entry phase.

:58:51. > :58:55.Got a little bit wide. In the end, a great pace from Daniel Ricciardo.

:58:56. > :59:01.Daniel Ricciardo is proving to be a true superstar this year. That being

:59:02. > :59:07.delivered once again w a great passing manoeuvre. He seems to be in

:59:08. > :59:11.better shape. DRS open. Had a lot more speed. Sebastian Vettel looked

:59:12. > :59:16.like he was going to turn in. Maybe he did get sight of him and think,

:59:17. > :59:24.this will be too close. In doing so, he was out on the dirty line. The

:59:25. > :59:32.ter mal-- thermal camera here. You can see the tyres building in

:59:33. > :59:35.temperature, as he loads it through. Daniel Ricciardo has moved into

:59:36. > :59:42.fourth position, as a result of that. This is for 14th place.

:59:43. > :59:49.RADIO: On a two-stop. Daniel on a two-stop.

:59:50. > :59:54.OK so verses a three-stop for Vettel. That is why they were trying

:59:55. > :00:02.to get that message across. Maybe in the end Vettel gave space. If he's

:00:03. > :00:06.on a three and the other is on a two - 22 seconds loss for another set of

:00:07. > :00:10.tyres. I can not believe he's going to be that much slower than his

:00:11. > :00:16.team-mate. Maybe he has an issue with the balance of the car. He

:00:17. > :00:20.called for front-wing improvement during that. Daniel Ricciardo

:00:21. > :00:23.without any of the pressure of ux what did I have? -- of, what did I

:00:24. > :00:40.have? And the Vettel he has gone from

:00:41. > :00:42.winning championships to struggling racing at the front. Different

:00:43. > :00:50.mindsets and pressures but interesting to watch. Gutierrez was

:00:51. > :00:55.under pressure from Magnusson, but it was not quite the room he needed

:00:56. > :00:58.to get past him. Gutierrez went out of this race last year when he

:00:59. > :01:08.missed read his breaking down and crashed to -- into the man who is

:01:09. > :01:15.now his team-mate, Adrian Sutil. There was almost a starter from his

:01:16. > :01:20.car. He has lost the place. Magnusson moving up to 14th, but

:01:21. > :01:27.well outside of the points. We gather that Adrian Sutil went out

:01:28. > :01:32.due to engine problems. Only one out so far and this race normally sees a

:01:33. > :01:40.good many finishers. This year, we have seen 15, 16 cars getting to the

:01:41. > :01:48.end. RADIO: We have a problem with fourth gear. Try to use it as little

:01:49. > :01:53.as possible. He is in 10th place. David, with these engines this year,

:01:54. > :01:58.it is a little bit more possible to miss out again than it was. A lot of

:01:59. > :02:08.talk with the hybrid technology. RADIO: Sebastian, stay out, it helps

:02:09. > :02:15.us. We are aware. How do we interpret that? Either he sent a

:02:16. > :02:19.message we have not heard or he has sent a message from his steering

:02:20. > :02:21.wheel, there are raters with preassigned messages so they do not

:02:22. > :02:29.have to broadcast what they are doing. He could be into the last

:02:30. > :02:34.area with the tyres. He could be saying I need to come in. I need to

:02:35. > :02:41.do three stops. But, for the team, they want him as rearguard action.

:02:42. > :02:52.It looks as if most want to push it to two stops. They are obviously

:02:53. > :03:00.getting enough performance and length of stint from the harder

:03:01. > :03:06.tyres. And at the halfway point, and a good effort from Alonso as we see

:03:07. > :03:12.Gutierrez heading to the pit. Alonso 12 seconds behind Hamilton. He has

:03:13. > :03:18.been closed in. Rosberg is behind him and running half a second a lap

:03:19. > :03:33.quicker. Rosberg closing the gap to the Ferrari. Grosjean is holding on

:03:34. > :03:43.in 10th, but we know he has a gear problem. The two Toro Rossos have

:03:44. > :03:46.been running together for a while. Different strategies from the

:03:47. > :03:53.McLarens, but they are not quite together, a gap of three seconds.

:03:54. > :04:01.Alonso, we are watching. Gutierrez is 15th. Pastor Maldonado is ahead

:04:02. > :04:10.of Kobayashi and Bianchi and Massa has not been able to get past them.

:04:11. > :04:15.He is stuck in 19th. Grosjean looked like he had an issue in the braking

:04:16. > :04:21.zone. He did not slow down. Whether that is the recovery system... It

:04:22. > :04:27.looks like he is heading for retirement. He does have a gear

:04:28. > :04:33.problem. I wonder if it has developed. If he did not get it on

:04:34. > :04:42.the way down, you get no engine braking. Jenson Button has come in,

:04:43. > :04:49.he was one of the first to stop and so he has to come in. He did 21

:04:50. > :04:55.laps. It is marginal for him. He may do it. Usually they get more life in

:04:56. > :05:02.the tyre at the end of the race when there is more rubber down and the

:05:03. > :05:13.car is lighter. Degradation is less of an issue. It looks like it is all

:05:14. > :05:17.over for Grosjean. He was in the top ten, but sadly it looks as if the

:05:18. > :05:27.prospect of points has come to an end. How much is Rosberg catching

:05:28. > :05:40.Alonso? On the last lap, seven tenths of a second faster. Alonso

:05:41. > :05:49.will be kept informed I am sure of the gap between himself and the

:05:50. > :05:57.Mercedes. It seems the Friday form Ferrari -- for Ferrari is coming

:05:58. > :06:05.into this. Significantly closer. Previous races they have been half a

:06:06. > :06:11.minute behind. RADIO: This tyre does not feel as good as the last one.

:06:12. > :06:15.Interesting. They were better off with the softer tyre, I wonder if

:06:16. > :06:35.that means they will go back to it? It is faster and if it can do the

:06:36. > :06:41.distance, why not? We are looking at the gain in lap time. This is

:06:42. > :06:50.interesting, they are fighting in the top ten. This is where the crew

:06:51. > :06:54.earns its money. Let's hope Williams have a better time. There was a

:06:55. > :06:59.slight delay for Williams. And though change in the order between

:07:00. > :07:06.the cars. Bottas half a second slower on the stop than Hulkenberg.

:07:07. > :07:15.We have a Toro Rosso making its way in. Kvyat. He has been hovering

:07:16. > :07:23.outside the top ten. It leaves Vergne out there. Kevin Magnussen

:07:24. > :07:30.coming in. He is on the different strategy. He had a short stint on

:07:31. > :07:37.the soft tyre that he went out on. Presumably he will go straight back

:07:38. > :07:42.out on the medium. He managed 13 laps, which is similar to what we

:07:43. > :07:50.saw in the early part of the race. But you would expect them to go

:07:51. > :07:59.further as the fuel burns. RADIO: Push hard to pass Alonso. He was a

:08:00. > :08:12.second faster on the last lap than Alonso. This lap, three tenths. He

:08:13. > :08:26.should have DRS available on this lap. It will be a Mercedes 1-2

:08:27. > :08:35.again. Ricciardo opens the gap to five and a half seconds over his

:08:36. > :08:46.team-mate. Sergio Perez using the new tyre effectively. Alonso is

:08:47. > :08:52.chased by Rosberg. Massa went into the pits and it was successful,

:08:53. > :08:58.which is good news, as he tries to make his way and perhaps challenge

:08:59. > :09:05.for a top-10 place, but that is looking unlikely. Pastor Maldonado

:09:06. > :09:09.has moved up the order. He is potentially in a points scoring...

:09:10. > :09:12.Just outside the points scoring position but that will change when

:09:13. > :09:39.we Seymour pit stops. -- see more. The Ferrari is coming in. That will

:09:40. > :09:46.be Alonso. Coming under increasing pressure from Rosberg. This is the

:09:47. > :09:51.changeover. I am sure once Rosberg mixes stop... The undercut might

:09:52. > :09:54.work for Alonso. It might be an advantage to come out on the new

:09:55. > :10:04.attire, but he will still have the same problem. Rosberg will have the

:10:05. > :10:10.fresh attire at the end of the race. Alonso in a nice clear area with a

:10:11. > :10:16.decent amount of space around him. And next up the road is Bianchi. We

:10:17. > :10:25.can see what happened to Sebastian Vettel. Was it a lock-up? RADIO: Are

:10:26. > :10:32.you kidding? He has new tyres, of course he is quicker. That is

:10:33. > :10:39.Kobayashi, by the way. How do you read that? He is one lap down.

:10:40. > :10:48.Technically, he should not be racing with Vettel. Kimi Raikkonen making a

:10:49. > :10:54.move on the Toro Rosso of Jean-Eric Vergne. That was a straightforward

:10:55. > :11:08.DRS pass. Vergne has not been into the pits and stop in fact, he has

:11:09. > :11:12.been in and gone back out. Lewis Hamilton is behind him. He is

:11:13. > :11:18.lapping cars at this stage and so it gets mixed up between the different

:11:19. > :11:23.cars. He lacked Kevin Magnussen. RADIO: You will have to pull away

:11:24. > :11:30.from Vettel. You will keep getting blue flags unless you pull away. He

:11:31. > :11:36.is trying to. He is setting his best personal sector time. You can

:11:37. > :11:43.understand it will probably be short lived. Vettel into the pits. From

:11:44. > :11:51.fourth position. This will take him to the end of the race. They have

:11:52. > :11:55.kept him on the two stop race. What can he deliver in the final part? It

:11:56. > :12:07.has been a disappointing day by his standards. He will come out behind

:12:08. > :12:11.the Caterham of Eriksson. Pastor Maldonado is chasing Gutierrez the

:12:12. > :12:18.14th place. Maldonado had a miserable weekend. He had the car

:12:19. > :12:23.stopped, he did not get out in qualifying, but at the moment the

:12:24. > :12:30.car is running reliably. But a terrible start to the season. The

:12:31. > :12:34.man he pitched into a role when they were last together on track... We

:12:35. > :12:40.can hear from his team-mate Grosjean.

:12:41. > :12:43.Disappointing. It looked like a strong weekend but you lost fourth

:12:44. > :12:50.gear and was that the problem at the end? Yes, we lost the gear for five

:12:51. > :13:03.laps and then we lost all of the gears. It is a shame. We worked hard

:13:04. > :13:17.all weekend to try to get a good car and qualifying and there is not much

:13:18. > :13:21.reward. Try to keep positive. A lock-up the Nico Rosberg. That was a

:13:22. > :13:27.mistake from Rosberg as he chases the lap time. He has come in. That

:13:28. > :13:36.was the replay but he has come into the pits. Ricciardo is also in

:13:37. > :13:40.behind. That will be interesting. There is not much between Rosberg

:13:41. > :13:44.and Ricciardo. Ricciardo will see that and think he will have a

:13:45. > :13:50.chance. They both come out behind the Ferrari. The gap was five

:13:51. > :13:56.seconds before the stop. It looks like it has closed up slightly.

:13:57. > :14:04.Vettel does his fastest lap of the race, 42.1. That allows him to close

:14:05. > :14:08.up to his team-mate. He will be chasing Ricciardo, but Ricciardo

:14:09. > :14:12.will have fresh attire is at the end of the race courtesy of the later

:14:13. > :14:17.pit stop. There is plenty to enjoy. The battle between the Red Bull

:14:18. > :14:21.team-mates, bats that will come alive in the closing stages. On

:14:22. > :14:27.board with Pastor Maldonado as he chases Gutierrez. He took a more

:14:28. > :14:42.narrow line through 13, so he has a quicker car. RADIO: Box, box, box.

:14:43. > :14:48.We will clean the front wing. He left space the Gutierrez. He

:14:49. > :14:54.might have done it. We switch away because the leader is into the pits.

:14:55. > :15:06.Hamilton's final stop. All under control so far. The harder medium

:15:07. > :15:11.compounds. Maldonado got past Gutierrez and Maldonado moves into

:15:12. > :15:17.14th. Lewis Hamilton joins with a big lead over his rivals. We will

:15:18. > :15:23.keep an eye on behind, the fight was second, third and fourth places is

:15:24. > :15:30.well the -- where the interest will be.

:15:31. > :15:41.The gap between Alonso and Rosberg - that will be interesting. . They are

:15:42. > :15:47.all evenly spaced at the moment. How is it all going to work out in

:15:48. > :15:50.the closing stages? That is what we'll wait to see. This is one of

:15:51. > :15:55.those drives by Lewis Hamilton. I mean he was brilliant last time out

:15:56. > :15:59.in Bahrain. That was pure racing instinct. What he's doing here is

:16:00. > :16:07.what you dream off, you start on pole and control the race and open

:16:08. > :16:14.up the of gap at will. If he was a masterclass of how to do it - this

:16:15. > :16:18.is masterclass and absolutely taking the maximum out of your machine.

:16:19. > :16:22.Still some way to go before the end of the Grand Prix, of courses.

:16:23. > :16:27.Certainly getting more out -- of course. Certainly getting more out

:16:28. > :16:35.of it. Rosberg has been fighting all day. Kevin Magnussen here trying to

:16:36. > :16:44.make a move. This is for 12th place. Magnussen desperate to try and

:16:45. > :16:50.reclaim some of that quos do. He's dropped away in the last Grand Prix.

:16:51. > :16:54.A non-finish for both McLarens in Bahrain.

:16:55. > :16:59.He was not showing the same sort of pace that Button was on that day. He

:17:00. > :17:04.was very aware that the team looked at that and realised he did haven't

:17:05. > :17:12.the pace on race day. It is why they put hoo him in the car -- put him in

:17:13. > :17:15.the car. Rosberg, two seconds faster than Alonso on that lap. He's the

:17:16. > :17:25.fastest man on the race track. It does not look like there'll be a

:17:26. > :17:30.lot Alonso will be able to do to defend his second place. You can see

:17:31. > :17:37.Rosberg, who is lapping another car. You are on board with Nico Rosberg

:17:38. > :17:47.and that Ferrari is getting closer. RADIO: Let us now on the fuel.

:17:48. > :17:54.It really annoys me to do that. RADIO: Copy that!

:17:55. > :17:59.Happy to accept that. He wants to gain that ground as quickly as

:18:00. > :18:05.possing. . That -- as possible. It is not possible for him to look at

:18:06. > :18:10.that nice TV screen, get a number and tell his engineer. It is as much

:18:11. > :18:15.as about saying, let me focus, hunt down Alonso, get into second place.

:18:16. > :18:21.He will accept, if I can get there and worry about where I am on fuel.

:18:22. > :18:25.He looks comfortable on fuel. Alonso is more marginal than Rosberg.

:18:26. > :18:31.Rosberg seems to be very comfortable indeed. He has the pace, the fuel

:18:32. > :18:39.economy. Mercedes power unit seems to have the edge in every aspect.

:18:40. > :18:46.With the fuel... This flow-rate, 100km per hour. Maximum flow rate.

:18:47. > :18:50.They are delivering more horsepower at this stage of the season. The

:18:51. > :18:54.fact Alonso has been able to sit there in second place and you know,

:18:55. > :18:59.it has not been easy for Rosberg. He is catching very quickly now.

:19:00. > :19:05.Alonso, a much better performance than we have seen this year. Alonso

:19:06. > :19:10.needs to watch out that Ricciardo has been quicker the last two laps.

:19:11. > :19:14.He's only eight seconds behind Alonso. That could give him some

:19:15. > :19:18.bother for challenging for third place. Red Bull were not ability to

:19:19. > :19:23.do anything in straight line, relative to the Ferrari. Ricciardo

:19:24. > :19:28.seems to be getting more out of his car than his team-mate at the

:19:29. > :19:32.moment. That is right. I say Alonso is going better. If he were to

:19:33. > :19:38.finish fourth, well he's had a couple of those already this year.

:19:39. > :19:43.That is Massa there. Valtteri Bottas is currently in seventh place, by

:19:44. > :19:48.the way. Have not seen much of the Finn and the Williams. He is ahead

:19:49. > :19:54.of Kimi Raikkonen, who is in eighth position, as we focus on this battle

:19:55. > :19:58.for second place. Perez is in the points currently. I wonder if Perez

:19:59. > :20:04.will have the tyres to take him through to the end. In ninth. Alonso

:20:05. > :20:08.going past Felipe Massa, who is being lapped. His former team-mate,

:20:09. > :20:16.of course. Massa provides no opposition. I am sure he'll do the

:20:17. > :20:23.same for Rosberg. Interesting on the Sir it is

:20:24. > :20:34.tracker. I can see Bottas 12 seconds up the road. -- circuit tracker.

:20:35. > :20:42.Of course his GPS sensor cannot be working. We are getting no

:20:43. > :20:53.information. He's absolutely in the race. Rosberg just closing up ever

:20:54. > :20:58.more to the Ferrari ahead of him. And it looks very much as though it

:20:59. > :21:04.will be another Mercedes one-two here today. Rosberg has had to work

:21:05. > :21:09.through the rask after that abysmal start.

:21:10. > :21:18.-- task. Alonso has used more than Rosberg.

:21:19. > :21:23.Ricciardo and Vettel have used similar amounts. Hulkenberg less.

:21:24. > :21:30.Raikkonen, interestingly, slightly less than Alonso. DRS activation,

:21:31. > :21:34.clearly within a second. Alonso running out to the white line.

:21:35. > :21:42.Rosberg coming tighter to get in cleaner air. He gets a great drive.

:21:43. > :21:47.DRS coming up. You see the white lines.

:21:48. > :21:52.Look at the difference and speed. Nico Rosberg takes second place.

:21:53. > :21:57.Hamilton leads. Rosberg now second. Mercedes are one and two. Alonso in

:21:58. > :22:02.third. Now, we'll have to see how quickly he gets caught by the Red

:22:03. > :22:09.Bull of Ricciardo. Straight line advantage wise, that goes to

:22:10. > :22:15.Ferrari. At a point Vettel was quicker. There was no way he could

:22:16. > :22:23.get past Alonso. RADIO: Plus 12, Vettel. You can't catch Alonso. Last

:22:24. > :22:27.few laps Vettel has been eighth-tenths or a second closer

:22:28. > :22:37.than Ricciardo. Whatever issue he's having, he's not focussed and going

:22:38. > :22:42.forward. He's maintaining position. Pretty much trading lap times.

:22:43. > :22:48.Should be comfortable to maintain that fifth place.

:22:49. > :22:55.If you stay with it until the end of 13, you will see the black lines

:22:56. > :23:01.moving across. It is like a finger across a clay pot.

:23:02. > :23:08.You sort of stretch the clay out. Look at the front left. You will see

:23:09. > :23:16.that moving. The graining moves from left to right. And then on to the

:23:17. > :23:25.stripe. Lost a little bit to Alonso. Let's watch him to the hairpin here.

:23:26. > :23:31.As we come away as he goes on to the brakes. Fuel use-wise, he's looking

:23:32. > :23:36.more marginal. Over the race it is the same as Alonso. On if lap he's

:23:37. > :23:42.using a touch -- on the lap he's using a touch more. Alonso is

:23:43. > :23:45.responding to the pace. Just one-tenth quicker that time than

:23:46. > :23:50.Alonso. There is no doubt that Ricciardo has a race on his hands

:23:51. > :23:55.here, if he is to try and get past Alonso for third place. Hamilton and

:23:56. > :24:01.Rosberg, one and two in this Grand Prix. Alonso holding on. Trying to

:24:02. > :24:07.get his podium finish. Under the watchful eye of the new boss. Will

:24:08. > :24:10.he do it? Will this guy deny him? Daniel Ricciardo looking for his

:24:11. > :24:15.first podium, having that first taken from Australia. Vettel is

:24:16. > :24:21.behind them in fifth. Unable to do anything. Hulkenberg is in sixth

:24:22. > :24:26.place. A fairly lonely sixth. He has Bottas three seconds behind and a

:24:27. > :24:31.big gap to Kimi Raikkonen. A view of our race leader in slow motion here.

:24:32. > :24:36.You can see the wobble on the wing, centrally mounted for this year. As

:24:37. > :24:45.it carries the load at 200 miles per hour, you can see it is stressed to

:24:46. > :24:49.its maximum. There is Pastor Maldonado. He might just make the

:24:50. > :24:53.end of this race. He did finish in Bahrain. He had the contact with

:24:54. > :25:00.Gutierrez. He got the car to the finish. Lauda there - he has won 25

:25:01. > :25:06.the Grand Prixes in his time. Lewis Hamilton looking to match this, if

:25:07. > :25:12.he continues where he is right now. Let's get an update. With ten laps

:25:13. > :25:16.to go, there'll be no more scheduled pit stops. Lap times are holding up

:25:17. > :25:19.well looking at the timing screen there. It will be very interesting

:25:20. > :25:25.to monitor Jenson Button, in particular. He was one of the first

:25:26. > :25:28.guys to make his second of pit stop. His lap times are good. I have

:25:29. > :25:34.spoken to McLaren, they say, yes, the intention was to get him to the

:25:35. > :25:38.end of the race. It will be marginal, as we get towards the end

:25:39. > :25:44.of the race. Is anyone going to fall off that cliff? That is what we need

:25:45. > :25:51.to wait and see. Talking of Button, not really catch catching him in

:25:52. > :25:54.tenth place. He's losing some of his electrical power. There may be

:25:55. > :25:59.problems for Button. His last lap only a little slower. It is not a

:26:00. > :26:05.huge issue just yet. Definitely one to watch as we go through this.

:26:06. > :26:10.Nico Rosberg just off the back marker. Vergne is behind Button. If

:26:11. > :26:27.Button was in trouble, then he'll have to watch out for the other Toro

:26:28. > :26:32.Rosso. It is the Toro Rosso of his. Ful can compare team-mates. -- We

:26:33. > :26:38.can compare team-mates. We were talking to Jean-Eric Vergne yet.

:26:39. > :26:50.RADIO: Fernando Alonso is matching your pace. Keep pushing!

:26:51. > :26:55.Jean-Eric Vergne is heavier than his team-mate. It is on the weight

:26:56. > :27:01.limit. His car is over the weight limit. He reons that costs him --

:27:02. > :27:12.reckons that costs him two-tenths of performance. So the team are doing

:27:13. > :27:19.what they can to lighten the car. It has not given us an accurate reading

:27:20. > :27:26.between the two team-mates. It is an issue in Formula One, driver weight

:27:27. > :27:32.and the fact the taller, heavier drivers are penalised this year.

:27:33. > :27:37.Where is Ricciardo? Well, the gap, 4.9 seconds when they last went

:27:38. > :27:42.across the line, has not changed significantly over this last lap.

:27:43. > :27:49.Alonso doing everything required of him here to stay in front. I wonder

:27:50. > :27:54.how the new boss is receiving this! It would be a huge boost to Ferrari

:27:55. > :27:58.if they get a podium finish after such a difficult start to the

:27:59. > :28:04.season. It has been a great track for Ferrari. He won here 12 months

:28:05. > :28:13.ago. You cannot put any performance boost down to Marco fronting up as

:28:14. > :28:18.team principal. So,le he can take some satisfaction as he sits with

:28:19. > :28:25.his family back in Italy. Yes, right.

:28:26. > :28:33.This is much more promising. Yes, of course, all the work we have seen

:28:34. > :28:38.from Ferrari this weekend and for many years has been done to his

:28:39. > :28:42.leadership. Certainly they need to find some performance if they are

:28:43. > :28:49.going to challenge Mercedes. They are not at the same level as mer say

:28:50. > :28:53.di, nor is any other team, in-- Mercedes, nor is any other team,

:28:54. > :29:04.including Red Bull. We are on lap 51 out of 56. After

:29:05. > :29:11.fourth-tenths up. He's on schedule to pull a bit of time. That said,

:29:12. > :29:16.Alonso will get some slipstream off in front.

:29:17. > :29:22.Rups a bit wide, actually, through -- runs a bit wide, actually through

:29:23. > :29:26.turn 14. Interestingly, down the back, I

:29:27. > :29:34.mentioned that Kobayashi had made a third pit stop, well he is catching

:29:35. > :29:39.Bianchi quickly every lap. On the last lap Kobayashi gained over a

:29:40. > :29:48.second. It looks like Caterham will regain that position from Marussia.

:29:49. > :29:52.Marussia will still be leading Caterham.

:29:53. > :29:58.Look at the graining of that front left of Alonso. He's running out of

:29:59. > :30:00.tyres. That will give a bit of heart to Daniel Ricciardo, who has got the

:30:01. > :30:21.gap down to 3.6 seconds. I am sure that is being reported

:30:22. > :30:27.back to Daniel Ricciardo. Was that the respect thing? Make the

:30:28. > :30:33.youngster go round the outside. Ricciardo has lost a bit of time to

:30:34. > :30:37.Alonso. Almost four tenths he has gained he has lost again on that,

:30:38. > :30:41.thanks to Maldonado not been as quick to get out of the way. I do

:30:42. > :30:51.not think Ricciardo will be too impressed. Unless the tyres of

:30:52. > :30:59.Alonso fall off the cliff, I do not think Ricciardo will be able to do

:31:00. > :31:08.anything. Back on board with him. His team-mate, you can see how far

:31:09. > :31:12.back he is. 19 seconds behind. He is comfortably in fifth. The gap to

:31:13. > :31:18.Hulkenberg has come down. Hulkenberg lapping at about the same pace.

:31:19. > :31:21.Hulkenberg has come down. Hulkenberg Vettel has not been able to deliver

:31:22. > :31:26.the performance we might have expected. Ricciardo has had the

:31:27. > :31:30.edge. It makes no difference of drivers at this level have races

:31:31. > :31:35.they have done at a particular track. Ricciardo probably feels that

:31:36. > :31:43.home, after racing in the Asia series. It does not make a

:31:44. > :31:48.difference when you are a Formula One driver, but it is nice for him

:31:49. > :31:57.to be in a comfortable environment. He has been in the Red Bull system

:31:58. > :32:03.for a time. He has not had to get used to a new system. Vettel came

:32:04. > :32:06.out of the young driver programme and so they are all in this

:32:07. > :32:14.professional comfort zone that allows them to focus on their

:32:15. > :32:23.driving. Alonso getting into the traffic at Notts the best place.

:32:24. > :32:30.Further back, Jenson Button, 11th, it does not looked like he will get

:32:31. > :32:34.in the points. Kevin Magnussen, being lapped. McLaren showed good

:32:35. > :32:38.form with Jenson Button in Bahrain and of course the great opening with

:32:39. > :32:45.two cars on the podium in Australia. This time it has been difficult. One

:32:46. > :32:49.to watch 's Bottas, who has been catching Hulkenberg a little bit.

:32:50. > :32:58.Hulkenberg has been told to pick up the pace. That is another one to

:32:59. > :33:05.keep an eye on as we still, of course, want to see whether Alonso

:33:06. > :33:11.is staying ahead of Ricciardo. The fuel use on the left-hand side. Red

:33:12. > :33:15.Bull are topping the list. We hope they have not gone over the limit.

:33:16. > :33:21.There were fuel sensor problems against the Red Bull this weekend.

:33:22. > :33:28.They had one go slightly adrift. We hope it will not cause them problems

:33:29. > :33:33.today. In those situations when there is a genuine failure, the FIA

:33:34. > :33:37.have to be notified and then they allow them to go on the fallback

:33:38. > :33:50.system and so no issues like we saw in Melbourne. Always huge support

:33:51. > :33:58.for Ferrari in China. Kobayashi has just caught Bianchi, but has not

:33:59. > :34:06.passed him. In that battle they are absolutely together. Kobayashi, if

:34:07. > :34:12.you remember, in his first stint in Formula One, he was spectacular when

:34:13. > :34:19.it came to overtaking. Ricciardo was quicker that last lap but it is not

:34:20. > :34:23.enough. The gap is too big, unless one of them had to save fuel

:34:24. > :34:28.massively. And if it is anyone, it will be Red Bull, not so much

:34:29. > :34:35.Ferrari. Lewis Hamilton meanwhile cruising. It is a brilliant drive.

:34:36. > :34:41.He has not had to fight for its like in Bahrain. This has been

:34:42. > :34:47.controlled. More like Malaysia, when he made the initial break from

:34:48. > :34:57.Rosberg in the opening lap. This time it is different. Rosberg Bob

:34:58. > :34:59.down terribly. Had contact with Williams and has had to fight his

:35:00. > :35:09.way to get back into second position. For Lewis Hamilton, it has

:35:10. > :35:13.been straightforward. He has an 18 seconds advantage. Not the biggest

:35:14. > :35:18.margin we have seen on the Shanghai circuit. I think Nico Rosberg have

:35:19. > :35:24.the biggest winning margin a couple of years ago, beating Jenson Button

:35:25. > :35:33.by just over 20 seconds. We know that Lewis Hamilton has not had to

:35:34. > :35:44.push. : RADIO: I just saw the chequered flag. I did not see it. I

:35:45. > :35:50.did not see it out. Maybe they were unfurling the chequered flag. Is

:35:51. > :35:56.that a word? I think it was just the man with the chequered flag getting

:35:57. > :36:01.ready. I do not think he will back off until he comes back around. I am

:36:02. > :36:07.sure he had a message to say keep going. Kobayashi has not got past

:36:08. > :36:11.Bianchi. Looking out of the window, Max Chilton, dude to the back of the

:36:12. > :36:21.gearbox of Jenson Button for the past couple of laps. Racing each

:36:22. > :36:28.other. A sobering sight Jenson to see a Marussia. Jenson Button out of

:36:29. > :36:33.the points as is the other McLaren. It has been a disappointing weekend

:36:34. > :36:37.to them. They have upgrades on the way for Barcelona. All of the teams

:36:38. > :36:43.are likely to have upgrades with the first round of the European season.

:36:44. > :36:48.It is a target for all of the teams. Out of the final corner, Lewis

:36:49. > :36:53.Hamilton comes through to win the Chinese Grand Prix. He takes his

:36:54. > :37:00.hat-trick of victories. His third straight win of the season. And the

:37:01. > :37:03.third of him in China. It was a brilliant performance. Completely

:37:04. > :37:10.untroubled. Second place goes to Nico Rosberg. His team-mate. And in

:37:11. > :37:15.the background, the Ferrari. Fernando Alonso gets his first

:37:16. > :37:22.podium of the season, defending from Daniel Ricciardo. Ricciardo drove

:37:23. > :37:26.superbly to beat his team-mate by over 20 seconds. Alonso held on

:37:27. > :37:32.after the brilliant start and a podium finish for Ferrari will be a

:37:33. > :37:41.boost. RADIO: Excellent drive, Lewis. Epic. What happened in the

:37:42. > :37:46.battle with Kobayashi and Bianchi? This was the last lap, second to

:37:47. > :37:52.last corner, got down the inside and I confirm he finished ahead of

:37:53. > :37:59.Bianchi. A wonderful battle. RADIO: Daniel, very good. Just ran out of

:38:00. > :38:15.laps. I got better as the race went on. A 1-2 finish the Mercedes. And

:38:16. > :38:33.Fernando Alonso. The Lewis Hamilton, a 25th career victory.

:38:34. > :38:44.Sergio Perez getting into the points after a low-grade position. Kvyat

:38:45. > :38:54.will be pleased with that, getting in the points. Lotus got the car

:38:55. > :39:06.again. Max Chilton will be celebrating his

:39:07. > :39:15.birthday on Monday. Hamilton definitely the dominant force here

:39:16. > :39:53.today. NATIONAL ANTHEM PLAYS.

:39:54. > :40:04.Lewis Hamilton takes three wins and Nico Rosberg one so far this year.

:40:05. > :40:10.It is also his third win in China. 2008, 2011, and now he has done it

:40:11. > :40:20.in 2014. Ron Meadows receives the constructors tray free. -- Trophy.

:40:21. > :40:29.His son was a race winner this weekend. Nico Rosberg, he is getting

:40:30. > :40:33.the award for second place. And the smile returning to his face. I think

:40:34. > :40:41.he will go away reasonably satisfied after that start and contact with

:40:42. > :40:48.Williams. Third, Fernando Alonso. A brilliant first lap and fighting

:40:49. > :40:52.defence in the closing stages. Lewis Hamilton's hat-trick has

:40:53. > :40:58.almost wiped out the effect of his not finishing in Australia and the

:40:59. > :41:00.Mercedes team-mates will start the European season on virtually level

:41:01. > :41:24.on. Great shots of Mercedes

:41:25. > :41:32.celebrating. A hat-trick in China flew is Hamilton. To win in the dry,

:41:33. > :41:37.how happy is your Easter? It is the best Easter day ever. What a

:41:38. > :41:41.blessing. The team has done such a great job and to be a part of it, to

:41:42. > :41:45.make the decision to come here and to see the fruits of the hard work

:41:46. > :41:50.of the team and be part of that journey, that is what I wanted. To

:41:51. > :41:56.get this win today I am buzzing inside. I am not tired, I could go

:41:57. > :42:02.again. I have plenty of energy. I am looking forward to going to Europe.

:42:03. > :42:08.More pole positions than any other British driver and your 25th victory

:42:09. > :42:12.today. With this rank among your best? Everyone is different. The

:42:13. > :42:16.last was ecstatic because of the battle I had with Nico and the

:42:17. > :42:22.circumstances, starting second and the battle. Today, leading in front

:42:23. > :42:28.and pulling away is a different feeling. You know what it is like. I

:42:29. > :42:33.was out there racing myself. You have to keep concentration.

:42:34. > :42:43.Concentration is the easy bit. That is easy for you to save. -- say.

:42:44. > :42:47.Staying focused, that is not easy, but improving on fuel saving, how

:42:48. > :42:57.you manage the tyres. My first stint was the best. You loved those tyres.

:42:58. > :43:04.They went for ever. Fuel saving, it looked like you saved more than a

:43:05. > :43:10.lap of -- lap and a half as your team-mate. Amazing fuel saving. It

:43:11. > :43:18.is something you have always had to do. This year I have worked hard on

:43:19. > :43:28.optimising it. Normally you are braking at 100 metres, but if you go

:43:29. > :43:34.early, you can brake-macro a little bit. It is working well. The

:43:35. > :43:47.chequered flag. Tell us what happened. I am suspicious about it.

:43:48. > :43:52.You saw this when you came in. I looked up and saw it and I thought,

:43:53. > :43:58.was that a black flag, was it a normal flag? The guys were not on

:43:59. > :44:05.the wall. I lifted for a second and then I kept going and then they said

:44:06. > :44:14.I had a lap left. They did put the chequered flag out. You were right.

:44:15. > :44:18.It does not make any difference. The last few laps I enjoyed. The

:44:19. > :44:24.temperature of the tyres was dropping and I decided to push. The

:44:25. > :44:31.car felt better when I did. Superb. Congratulations.

:44:32. > :44:36.Congratulations, a tough start and then you got the contact. Were you

:44:37. > :44:40.confident you could get to second? After the contact I thought my car

:44:41. > :44:46.was broken so I am grateful the car survived. The difficulty at the

:44:47. > :44:51.start was the team could not suggest any clutch settings because of the

:44:52. > :44:55.telemetry system, the communication between the car and garage. They

:44:56. > :44:59.could not see anything going on with the car, they were blind to the

:45:00. > :45:06.whole race. I had to do everything on my own and there is a lot to do.

:45:07. > :45:10.It made matters congregated. I had a bad start because the clutch setting

:45:11. > :45:16.was wrong. Considering all of that and the collision, I am pleased to

:45:17. > :45:20.come in second, leading the championship, which is important.

:45:21. > :45:28.Two different experiences from the Mercedes drivers. But problems the

:45:29. > :45:32.Nico Rosberg. The drivers are relying so heavily

:45:33. > :45:35.on engineers feeding them information, adjusting the clutch on

:45:36. > :45:39.the way to the proper start. What is confusing to me is he mentioned on

:45:40. > :45:43.the parade map he had a perfect start. That does not mean engineers

:45:44. > :45:47.cannot look at the data and make suggestions. That does not add up.

:45:48. > :45:51.Thereafter he did a great job to monitor all the information from

:45:52. > :45:55.inside the cockpit. You can see, as he pulls off the line here, he

:45:56. > :46:00.bogged it down. You have Massa in front of him, having contact with

:46:01. > :46:06.the Ferrari and Bottas around the outside. An impact on the front left

:46:07. > :46:15.wheel of the Mercedes car. All credit for the suspension of the

:46:16. > :46:23.suspension. Just listening as it comes off the line, watch Bottas in

:46:24. > :46:28.the Williams, really whack the back of that front-left tyre and gets

:46:29. > :46:38.away with it. That saves his front wing. It was a case of bumper cars.

:46:39. > :46:43.From the driver's perspective, is it just annoying to be giving the data

:46:44. > :46:50.back to the garage? I don't think it is as big a deal as Nico. There is a

:46:51. > :46:54.fact of comforting himself... At the end of the day you have to drive the

:46:55. > :46:58.race. You have to drive the car as quickly as possible. Things like

:46:59. > :47:03.making an adjustment, it is something, the driver can make that

:47:04. > :47:06.decision. In terms of knowing where he was in fuel, they are used to

:47:07. > :47:09.getting that information from the engineer. It is safe to assume if

:47:10. > :47:15.you are running in fourth place, as he was for the beginning and your

:47:16. > :47:20.team-mate has an issue, you are using more fuel than you should be.

:47:21. > :47:27.There were some safe assumptions. It was a good comeback from him. It was

:47:28. > :47:33.the weekend that Lewis wanted. His 25th race. Equal eighth in the

:47:34. > :47:39.all-time list of winners, equalising with Clark and Lauda. How good was

:47:40. > :47:43.Lewis Hamilton's performance today? Outstanding. He's on the top of his

:47:44. > :47:48.driving level. No mistakes whatsoever. A good start and the

:47:49. > :47:54.race was his. His driving, I have to tell you - sensationally! He really

:47:55. > :48:00.moves forward in his driving way of understanding things and outstanding

:48:01. > :48:04.victory. Congratulations - your first podium

:48:05. > :48:09.of the of of season. You had to fight hard for it. It was not an

:48:10. > :48:15.easy race, as we knew. From the start, we had this contact, very

:48:16. > :48:22.strong, actually. I asked the team if anything was OK. It felt OK. I

:48:23. > :48:31.did not know if everything was OK. Some fight of - some action in the

:48:32. > :48:35.race. We are on the podium today after some disappointing results. It

:48:36. > :48:39.is good to give to the team a happy Sunday.

:48:40. > :48:43.And hopefully extra motivation. Ferrari get a podium. Very well

:48:44. > :48:48.deserved for Alonso today. Aggressive from the off. 18 times he

:48:49. > :48:52.started from fifth place. They need to improve their qualifying pace. He

:48:53. > :48:56.was aggressive. Straight off the line. They will be happy with the

:48:57. > :49:03.improvements over the weekend. Look at the front right - takes a whack

:49:04. > :49:08.off Massa. Lewis Hamilton comfortable out

:49:09. > :49:14.front. Alonso has a bit of a go as they run out of turn two, into three

:49:15. > :49:20.and gets a great drive into four and to come up, he's in the slipstream.

:49:21. > :49:26.The first lap. On the brakes into sixth. Not able to make it stick. On

:49:27. > :49:33.this occasion, has to settle for third. Decent reliability with those

:49:34. > :49:37.cars. The only team to get both cars home in every race this year. They

:49:38. > :49:43.need to unleash some more pace. They are taking a step forward this

:49:44. > :49:47.weekend. No driver likes to be asked to move

:49:48. > :49:54.over. Tough luck seems to be the phase of the day. Did you move over

:49:55. > :49:59.in the end? I did move over. Initially I didn't understand. We

:50:00. > :50:04.were on the same tyres. Unlike Bahrain. That is why I

:50:05. > :50:09.double-checked. Then, when I got the call, at that stage, Daniel was on a

:50:10. > :50:13.different strategy. I moved over. Had to see more and more towards the

:50:14. > :50:19.end of the race that I didn't have the pace. It wasn't to do in the end

:50:20. > :50:24.- but interesting on the radio with Sebastian Vettel, when he was asked

:50:25. > :50:29.to move over, he said "Tough luck." What do you make of that? The first

:50:30. > :50:34.I have heard. We are all racing. I guess, always in battle and that,

:50:35. > :50:39.you want to hold on to what you've got. That is the first I have heard.

:50:40. > :50:46.Going into the race, I don't know if all the guys on the dirty side, so

:50:47. > :50:51.to speak, got a poor get away. Spinning on the line too long. Lost

:50:52. > :50:55.the two places. The end, doing all I could to catch Alonso. A couple of

:50:56. > :50:59.seconds over the line. Another race and we are asking for a couple more

:51:00. > :51:05.laps. The result could have been better. It will come. Today, I think

:51:06. > :51:11.we didn't have a chance. I didn't, at least, in the beginning to pass

:51:12. > :51:16.Alonso. Whatever happened, I don't know and I don't understand yet,

:51:17. > :51:22.very slow on the front tyres. First end seemed OK. Compared to Mercedes,

:51:23. > :51:26.we don't even look at that. Just off the podium today. Unsurprisingly we

:51:27. > :51:30.would like to run some team radio for you to listen to. When we heard

:51:31. > :51:46.this. RADIO: Let Daniel through, please.

:51:47. > :51:53.Tough luck. Watching that, we started to think,

:51:54. > :51:57.oh, here we go again! What were you thinking at that point? That drivers

:51:58. > :52:03.were going to be on different strategies. Seb was on the tyre

:52:04. > :52:08.phase quicker. We gave Seb the call to move out of the way for Daniel.

:52:09. > :52:15.He didn't understand that from the first call. Rocky explained Daniel

:52:16. > :52:22.was on a two-stop. He let him into turn one. He was defensive. Is that

:52:23. > :52:28.a pen sieve look from you? Praying, I think. Here, this was the move

:52:29. > :52:33.to... Yes, that cost him the least amount of time.

:52:34. > :52:43.And then as the race progressed, it became evident that Seb's tyre of

:52:44. > :52:48.issue, we reversed into a two-stop him with. Daniel was 20 seconds up

:52:49. > :52:54.the road. It could have been better, of course. What went wrong at the

:52:55. > :52:58.start? There was some oil on that grid that the marshals were trying

:52:59. > :53:05.to clean up. He didn't get away particularly well. Seb had a good

:53:06. > :53:10.start. Alonso had a flyer as well. That cost Daniel a bit, you know, it

:53:11. > :53:15.was a bit costly for later in the race. Just a quick question, with

:53:16. > :53:20.that slight delay in Seb moving over, do you think that lost a

:53:21. > :53:26.podium for Red Bull today? I don't think so. It cost probably a second,

:53:27. > :53:32.a second-and-a-half. Would have put us closer to Fernando Alonso. We

:53:33. > :53:36.would have got closer with the DRS. It would have got us closer. We

:53:37. > :53:44.would maybe have been able to put him under a bit more pressure. So,

:53:45. > :53:48.this begs the question. We have Rocky - beating Sebastian Vettel.

:53:49. > :53:53.What is going on? Seb does not have the feel from the car he needs. He's

:53:54. > :53:57.not feeling the grip. He's going through the tyre phase. He's not at

:53:58. > :54:01.one with the car yet. I think we've got to do more work on the set-up

:54:02. > :54:06.and with some of the fine-tuning to get it to his liking. Daniel is

:54:07. > :54:12.doing an outstanding job. Did you know he would be this job? He's been

:54:13. > :54:17.a sensation, hasn't he? I would love to say, we knew he would perform

:54:18. > :54:22.like he has. There was an element of risk. We knew he was quick. We have

:54:23. > :54:26.supported him through. He's been outstanding since he's stepped into

:54:27. > :54:30.the car. His attitude, his pace, his feedback. It sounds like he's on a

:54:31. > :54:35.Sunday afternoon drive when he comes on the radio at times. Very

:54:36. > :54:40.impressive. You have some inside information about what he was doing

:54:41. > :54:47.at Toro Rosso. This is a new experience for Sebastian. Mark was

:54:48. > :54:52.not pushing him. This It is costing him a lot on corner-entry. He

:54:53. > :54:56.generates a lot of his lap time into the slow corners getting the feeling

:54:57. > :54:59.for the car. He's not got that feeling at the moment. That is

:55:00. > :55:04.probably why he's going through the tyres quicker as well. Mark

:55:05. > :55:10.outqualified him twice last year. Daniel has done it three times

:55:11. > :55:14.already in four races. It is healthy for Sebastian, for Daniel and it is

:55:15. > :55:18.pushing the team and drivers forward. Interesting to see them

:55:19. > :55:29.racing head-to-head without major car problems. Thank you. Pleasure!

:55:30. > :55:34.I even has contact with Fernando at the start. Maybe the car was damaged

:55:35. > :55:40.or not. He was OK to carry on. Then I got to the first pit stop. I lost

:55:41. > :55:47.my race. I lost, I don't know how many seconds I was there. I lost my

:55:48. > :55:53.race. I came back last, you know. It was not so much to do. Maybe a

:55:54. > :55:58.safety car. It was a tough nightmare, you know, what has

:55:59. > :56:03.happened today. We need to work and concentrate for having something

:56:04. > :56:09.that cannot happen any more. You know? So concentrate for the next

:56:10. > :56:14.race. A great shame for Massa. It was a busy start though, wasn't it?

:56:15. > :56:18.He came off the dirty side of the grid.

:56:19. > :56:22.He sees his path is blocked by Ricciardo and come comes between the

:56:23. > :56:26.two. He has contact there with Fernando Alonso. Understandably

:56:27. > :56:31.backs off as he goes into turn one. Not sure if the car was damaged. We

:56:32. > :56:36.know the wrong wheels were brought out to the car. A further problem

:56:37. > :56:41.with the wheel nut. That cost him one minute and a chance over getting

:56:42. > :56:45.points today. It is those small mistakes that lead on to big effects

:56:46. > :56:51.and lose races. That is where they cannot be at the moment. Trying to

:56:52. > :56:56.get back into a fighting position, they have a procedural issue. Not

:56:57. > :57:02.good for McLaren? It is going backwards at the moment. They have

:57:03. > :57:10.good Mercedes horsepower. You wonder if that is fla flattering the

:57:11. > :57:15.McLaren car. It is the worst of the Mercedes customer teams. Let's

:57:16. > :57:33.confirm the race results for you then.

:57:34. > :58:02.We will be back in three weeks' time. All the action live for you on

:58:03. > :58:08.BBC One. We will be joined by Eddie Jordan. Goodbye from China - the

:58:09. > :58:31.happy hunt hunting ground for hat-trick Hamilton.

:58:32. > :59:00.Next time on Formula One - race five. Barcelona, Spain.
