:00:09. > :00:22.Previously on Formula One: What was that? Victory for Nico Rosberg in

:00:23. > :00:29.Austria. This is Formula One, raised ten, Hockenheim, Germany.

:00:30. > :01:48.Welcome to a country where national pride is here. Germany is basking in

:01:49. > :01:54.the glow of success. Welcome to the country of world champions. Quick,

:01:55. > :02:02.powerful, and efficiently ruthless. He has scored for Germany! Words

:02:03. > :02:07.that could easily be used to describe the Germans who triumphed

:02:08. > :02:15.at their own home grand prix. And Michael Schumacher wins the German

:02:16. > :02:20.Grand Prix. We love you. Schumacher wins his third Grand Prix of the

:02:21. > :02:27.2001 season. Sebastien Vettel wins in Germany, the first time he has

:02:28. > :02:32.won his home grand prix. You would have to go back 75 years to find a

:02:33. > :02:45.German driver in a German car who won their home Grand Prix. At

:02:46. > :02:51.Silverstone Lewis showed just what an advantage a home crowd could be.

:02:52. > :02:58.Hamilton is going to win the British Grand Prix. Could it be the turn of

:02:59. > :03:12.Nico Rosberg's Mercedes and Germany's expands?

:03:13. > :03:17.Germany really does expect, but there are 18 other drivers on the

:03:18. > :03:21.great who would love to rain on the German parade. It has been

:03:22. > :03:26.threatening, will it make a difference? We already had wet

:03:27. > :03:30.weather forecasts for this morning. It can only add to the excitement.

:03:31. > :03:35.It is more difficult for the drivers, but we want to be

:03:36. > :03:40.entertained. There was a lot of love for Michael Schumacher for the

:03:41. > :03:45.German fans, but they do not seem to have taken Nico Rosberg or Sebastien

:03:46. > :03:51.Vettel in the same way. Michael came from a more humble background and

:03:52. > :03:55.was more a man of the people. Nico Rosberg is based in Monaco and they

:03:56. > :04:00.have not had time to embrace Sebastien Vettel as a young man.

:04:01. > :04:06.Let's have a look back to yesterday's qualifying session. It

:04:07. > :04:12.was a day of mixed fortunes. Mercury nudged 35 degrees, proving a

:04:13. > :04:16.real test of men and it was the Mercedes who cracked first.

:04:17. > :04:22.Hamilton's session came to a painful end.

:04:23. > :04:33.RADIO: Are you OK? It was a good day for Kevin Magnussen and the Dane

:04:34. > :04:43.maximise everything at his ex-postal. Valterri Bottas lined up

:04:44. > :04:48.just ahead of team-mate Felipe Massa, but neither of these drivers

:04:49. > :04:54.had an answer to Nico Rosberg who cruised to his fifth pole position

:04:55. > :05:00.of the year. We are starting with the card that we have and the way

:05:01. > :05:06.that Lewis is driving, it is still possible he will come through at

:05:07. > :05:08.some point. This is the grid. Nico Rosberg is on pole for the first

:05:09. > :06:12.time in his home grand prix. With the five place grid penalty,

:06:13. > :06:17.Lewis goes to 20th place. Let's have a look at that moment that destroyed

:06:18. > :06:25.his qualifying session. He is coming down to turn nine. The break

:06:26. > :06:30.actually disintegrates. At this point he is losing control of the

:06:31. > :06:34.vehicle. He is trying to minimise the damage. No run off in this

:06:35. > :06:40.corner and it goes straight into the wall. He was very lucky he was able

:06:41. > :06:46.to walk away from that. Shaken but not stirred as they say. What is it

:06:47. > :06:51.like to experience that? We do experience brake failure at some

:06:52. > :06:54.point in your career. As you are breaking on one axle it rotates the

:06:55. > :07:00.car and you minimise the point of impact. It is a risk of the game.

:07:01. > :07:07.Coming from 20th, what has he got to do? He has got the quickest car in

:07:08. > :07:12.the field. He has a good chance of making the podium. Mercedes ran

:07:13. > :07:20.loads of simulations last night and their prediction gives him a chance

:07:21. > :07:25.of third or fourth. Would it be better with race interruptions

:07:26. > :07:31.weather? Yes, a safety car or a weather change all of those things

:07:32. > :07:34.enable him to be able to react. And all important points for the

:07:35. > :07:57.championship. This is how the championship currently sits.

:07:58. > :08:09.The scrap for a third is a tight one. Williams have the Prancing

:08:10. > :08:15.Horse right in their sights. Third is where Williams want to be before

:08:16. > :08:19.the summer break. They will need to get the strategy perfect today.

:08:20. > :08:26.Let's catch up with Tom Clarkson who has got the latest information from

:08:27. > :08:30.the pit lane. This time yesterday I would have said this was a

:08:31. > :08:37.sure-fire, three stop race. But the cloud cover has brought the track

:08:38. > :08:44.temperature down. That will make the tyre life a lot easier. But two

:08:45. > :08:52.questions remain. Were any make one stop work? Doubtful. Will Mercedes

:08:53. > :08:55.consider putting Lewis Hamilton on a three-stop strategy? He has got a

:08:56. > :09:00.much faster option tyre at his disposal.

:09:01. > :09:06.Plenty to think about in changeable conditions. David is catching up

:09:07. > :09:09.with some drivers. Solid but unspectacular qualifying.

:09:10. > :09:14.Will you be able to move forward this afternoon will you have another

:09:15. > :09:21.battle with Fernando Alonso? I hope I am currently facing the right way,

:09:22. > :09:26.so will try to focus what happens at the front. We are hearing anything

:09:27. > :09:33.from two or three stops. Do you have a fixed plan? Of course we have a

:09:34. > :09:37.bit of a plan, but it will be between two and three. Today is

:09:38. > :09:44.cooler and windier and there might be rain in the air. But we have not

:09:45. > :09:50.yet decided. You are top Ferrari driver, how do you see this and

:09:51. > :09:56.folding? Looking at the sky some forecasts say rain in one hour, so

:09:57. > :09:59.that could change the race. Great qualifying yesterday, you are a man

:10:00. > :10:07.of the moment, are you feeling charged? Yes, feeling great, we have

:10:08. > :10:10.a chance for anything today. You are the fastest man in the middle

:10:11. > :10:16.sector, so that gives you the chance to take the fight to Mercedes. I

:10:17. > :10:21.think so, it is our strength here and it should help with overtaking.

:10:22. > :10:25.We might have a small chance in the first lap already. How did the car

:10:26. > :10:32.feel on the way to the grid? The rain has caused a bit of a change

:10:33. > :10:38.with grip on the circuit. It will take a bit of time for the tyres to

:10:39. > :10:44.come up to temperature. What do you want? Wet or dry? I am not fast. If

:10:45. > :10:50.it rains, it could spice it up a little bit. I am standing right at

:10:51. > :10:55.the back of the grid. The front of the great is the second set of red

:10:56. > :11:01.lights. There may be 67 laps, but that man has everything to do. Pete

:11:02. > :11:07.your fingers crossed. David and Ben are in the commentary box. The

:11:08. > :11:22.Germans Grand Prix, 2014, here we go.

:11:23. > :11:30.# When I made you in the summer... # .

:11:31. > :11:35.Exactly a week ago Germany won the World Cup, cheered on by Nico

:11:36. > :11:38.Rosberg. Now he has the chance to win the German Grand Prix in a

:11:39. > :11:48.German car and he has the chance to do that to become the first man to

:11:49. > :11:53.do it since 1950. Kimi Raikkonen has chosen the harder, soft tyre, and so

:11:54. > :12:02.has Lewis Hamilton. From all the way back in 20th place Hamilton has gone

:12:03. > :12:11.for the harder compound tyre. Four points between Nico Rosberg and

:12:12. > :12:15.Hamilton. Tom, that is interesting to see both Kimi Raikkonen and Lewis

:12:16. > :12:28.Hamilton starting on the harder of the two camp compounds of tyre.

:12:29. > :12:32.Pirelli says you can get 20 plus laps out of those tyres. But the

:12:33. > :12:36.conditions today are so different to what we have seen this weekend. The

:12:37. > :12:41.track temperature is down by 20 degrees. They are going to have to

:12:42. > :12:49.see whether there is any graining on the front tyres and make the

:12:50. > :12:52.decision as this race unfolds. Romain Grosjean is the third person

:12:53. > :12:58.to start on the softer of the compound tyres. The best finish he

:12:59. > :13:07.has had in Hockenheim was a third-place finish. He has yet to

:13:08. > :13:13.win at this circuit, one of the few tracks that Sebastien Vettel has not

:13:14. > :13:18.won on. Outqualified by Daniel Ricciardo, but sits next to him on

:13:19. > :13:24.the grid. He feels happier with the car, but he felt he did not get the

:13:25. > :13:31.final run. There is support for Sebastien Vettel in the stand. Great

:13:32. > :13:35.effort by Kevin Madison. His best finish is a second place in

:13:36. > :13:40.Australia and he has only had a couple of seventh place finishes, so

:13:41. > :13:47.it would be good for him to get into a place today. But it will not be

:13:48. > :13:50.easy. Rosberg leads the field as they come onto the grid. Bottas and

:13:51. > :13:57.Massa, then Ricciardo and Vettel, they come onto the grid. Bottas and

:13:58. > :14:15.Massa, then Ricciardo Hulkenberg and Paris.

:14:16. > :14:33.Marcus Ericsson starting from the pit lane. Ericsson is likely to have

:14:34. > :14:41.a very lonely afternoon of running. That Williams is positioned over to

:14:42. > :14:47.the left. The lights are coming on, we are ready to go racing. Lights

:14:48. > :14:53.out, away we go! And Rosberg gets off the line very well. But look at

:14:54. > :14:59.Magnussen on the inside, trying to take third! Oh, he has hit Massa!

:15:00. > :15:06.Massa is over! Bottas is in second place. Vettel has had a very good

:15:07. > :15:11.start, Alonso as well. A safety car has been called, no surprise,

:15:12. > :15:20.David, and Felipe Massa in another big accident. Let's wait and see,

:15:21. > :15:25.hopefully he is he went right over. Thankfully the car did not go onto

:15:26. > :15:30.the gravel. I would suggest that he is absolutely fine, but that looked

:15:31. > :15:34.to me like an error of judgment from Kevin Magnussen. We will wait to see

:15:35. > :15:40.the replay, but he positioned his car on the inside, and then he half

:15:41. > :15:44.committed, which you cannot do. That did not allow Massa the opportunity

:15:45. > :15:46.to know whether the car was there or not. And they have

:15:47. > :15:52.to know whether the car was there or not. And they interlocked wheels.

:15:53. > :15:57.Felipe Massa, what does he have to do at the moment? That first lap at

:15:58. > :16:03.Silverstone, when he crashed into Kimi Raikkonen. He had the accident

:16:04. > :16:07.in Canada as well. He had an accident on his own in free practice

:16:08. > :16:12.at still the stone. He has taken some big hits recently. You have got

:16:13. > :16:18.to feel for Williams as well. -- at Silverstone. Williams were looking

:16:19. > :16:26.at such a solid performance here. Can you see any damage? Apart from

:16:27. > :16:30.the markings having been robbed of slightly. Amazingly, there is no

:16:31. > :16:34.damage to the McLaren. You can see Magnussen gets a cracking start on

:16:35. > :16:40.the inside right. Bottas backs out of it, and of course Massa is

:16:41. > :16:44.committed to the corner, unaware of the fact that Magnussen was

:16:45. > :16:49.initially inside Bottas. It is a racing incident, at least.

:16:50. > :16:53.Otherwise, Magnussen finding himself on a very shallow line. You can see

:16:54. > :17:02.there is a slow-moving Marussia at the back as well. Just enough

:17:03. > :17:06.contact and momentum, as the Red Bull of Daniel Ricciardo has to take

:17:07. > :17:11.avoiding action, which has dropped him down to 15th. He starts to cut

:17:12. > :17:18.across to the corner, and the contact was made so late, and his

:17:19. > :17:22.world has been turned upside down. This is from Kevin's point of view.

:17:23. > :17:30.Gets a great start, and he then bails out of this, and Massa comes

:17:31. > :17:36.across. Well, I am prepared to see this as just two guys doing their

:17:37. > :17:40.own thing. But Kevin, I have to say, you have got to be prepared for

:17:41. > :17:44.people coming on the racing line, if you are on that shallow line. But

:17:45. > :17:53.there is no way Massa could have known he was there.

:17:54. > :18:00.RADIO: Felipe, are you OK? It looked very spectacular, of

:18:01. > :18:05.course, but those roll hoops are designed to take that kind of

:18:06. > :18:11.impact, and they are rigorously tested by the FIA. Yes, it was a

:18:12. > :18:18.relatively gentle going upside down, if there is such a thing. Well, the

:18:19. > :18:23.safety car is coming in this lap, it is a relatively short safety car

:18:24. > :18:27.period. It is quite rare that the safety car needs to come out here at

:18:28. > :18:35.Hockenheim, we have not seen it for a few years. As at Silverstone, Nico

:18:36. > :18:44.Rosberg goes on a charge quickly, catching out his pursuers. Fernando

:18:45. > :18:51.Alonso is up to fourth. Hulkenberg is in fifth, followed by Sergio

:18:52. > :18:59.Perez. Hamilton is currently in 17th position. He got through that first

:19:00. > :19:03.lap OK and is now trying to pick his way through the order. He gets past

:19:04. > :19:04.his fellow Brit Max Chilton, and already, Lewis Hamilton is on his

:19:05. > :19:17.way. And Hulkenberg, under attack from

:19:18. > :19:27.Jenson Button, Button, who also had a good first lap. Certainly, Jenson

:19:28. > :19:31.Button has probably been the biggest winner out of that. If you look at

:19:32. > :19:39.Daniel Ricciardo, the loser, losing out in that incident between Bottas

:19:40. > :19:44.and Massa. Temperatures at the moment will be down on what would be

:19:45. > :19:49.an optimal running condition, following the restart after the

:19:50. > :19:53.safety car. RADIO: Strategically, we have still

:19:54. > :20:01.got a good chance in this race, we are ten seconds behind the queue.

:20:02. > :20:10.Ericsson is on track, having started from the pit lane.

:20:11. > :20:18.Jenson Button always goes well here ad hoc and time, -- here at

:20:19. > :20:21.Hockenheim, but he was not happy with the setup in qualifying

:20:22. > :20:26.yesterday. But let's look at Hamilton, making a move up the

:20:27. > :20:27.inside of Maldonado. And that is pretty straightforward. Yes, the

:20:28. > :20:40.speed advantage. Jenson Button, trying to use the

:20:41. > :20:47.brand-new set of options which he had access to. We know Hulkenberg is

:20:48. > :20:56.a tough customer when it comes to getting past him. Yes, I remember

:20:57. > :21:04.that great race he had in Korea when he was at Sauber, withstanding all

:21:05. > :21:10.the pressure. Good racing there. Yes, he was fair, he gave Jenson

:21:11. > :21:30.space. This was Hamilton, this was earlier...

:21:31. > :21:33.That was Romain Grosjean getting past by Ricciardo, who had lost out

:21:34. > :21:54.massively in that early incident. Grosjean thinks, I am not fighting

:21:55. > :22:11.this battle, on you go, mate. Hamilton did not get a clean run

:22:12. > :22:41.through turn two. Sutil decided at the last moment

:22:42. > :22:47.that Hamilton was not coming through there. Well, he managed to just get

:22:48. > :22:52.into the apex. Former friends, of course, Hamilton and Sutil, although

:22:53. > :22:56.that friendship ended a couple of years ago. And watch what happens as

:22:57. > :23:00.Hamilton comes down, slightly out of the rear view of Sutil, I guess.

:23:01. > :23:22.Just saw him in time. RADIO: You are free to use overtake,

:23:23. > :23:47.you have 25km/h, with DRS. The Mercedes power unit in the Force

:23:48. > :23:54.India, versus the Renault power unit. Oh, no, they have touched! It

:23:55. > :24:00.is one thing being brave enough to put it on the outside, but you then

:24:01. > :24:20.need to leave enough space for the car on the inside.

:24:21. > :24:27.He has only got himself to blame for that one. Yes, I do not think Perez

:24:28. > :24:29.could RADIO: Do you have any damage? I do not

:24:30. > :24:47.think so. Eriksen has made his stop and go pit

:24:48. > :24:48.stop. The only car which is not running is that of Massa, as a

:24:49. > :25:09.result of the accident. It is all getting pretty physical in

:25:10. > :25:10.the midfield at the moment, but Ricciardo just staying in front.

:25:11. > :25:25.Hamilton is up into the top ten. It shows the performance difference.

:25:26. > :25:30.Hamilton, all over the back of that Red Bull, on a tyre with less

:25:31. > :25:41.performance. Yes, it is astonishing. RADIO: Some cars in front are

:25:42. > :25:54.starting to pick. We could be in with a good shout of some points.

:25:55. > :26:02.So, we have got Perez and Raikkonen, chased by Ricciardo Ann Hamilton.

:26:03. > :26:06.Hamilton could get a whole bunch of them in one go, if he times it

:26:07. > :26:10.right. He has got a really good run going through turn two. Here is the

:26:11. > :26:25.opportunity for Hamilton to eat up the opposition.

:26:26. > :26:37.Ricciardo goes round the outside! Ann Hamilton just could not get on

:26:38. > :26:40.the power, because of the Ferrari in front of him. Great move down the

:26:41. > :26:47.inside there, catching Raikkonen sleeping. Daniel Ricciardo is a real

:26:48. > :26:59.race. He is, he has pulled off a couple of great moves this year.

:27:00. > :27:05.Those are the kind of skills we are used to seeing from a former world

:27:06. > :27:08.champion, in Raikkonen. He has finally woken up, back into this

:27:09. > :27:18.race, fantastic events there against Hamilton. -- fantastic defence.

:27:19. > :27:26.Alonso makes his pit stop. He has gone on to the harder tyre. We

:27:27. > :27:29.wondered whether some people might go for a second stint on the

:27:30. > :27:37.super-soft, but Ferrari going for the harder tyre straightaway.

:27:38. > :27:39.Hamilton now closing right up to Raikkonen. Yes, Daniel Ricciardo

:27:40. > :27:58.made a mistake there. Hamilton has hit Raikkonen, but

:27:59. > :28:03.has got through into the first part of the corner! My goodness, how did

:28:04. > :28:10.they get away with that? I do not know! I closed my eyes! But when you

:28:11. > :28:17.have got drivers of that quality, somehow they are able to avoid the

:28:18. > :28:23.big accident. Hamilton got past both in one go, but that was a huge

:28:24. > :28:33.gamble. Yes, there was a bit of bodywork came off one of the cars.

:28:34. > :28:42.So, Raikkonen comes out of the slipstream, Hamilton gets the double

:28:43. > :28:43.toe. Hamilton locked up because he knew the Force India was going to

:28:44. > :28:57.turn in on him. If that piece of bodywork on the

:28:58. > :29:03.front wing does anything, then that will affect his performance. It is

:29:04. > :29:12.busy in the pits, Ricciardo has come in as well. That might compromise

:29:13. > :29:19.just how far Hamilton can get on those prime tyres.

:29:20. > :29:29.That puts Hamilton into fifth place now, with pit stops being made

:29:30. > :29:34.around him. As Felipe Massa trudges back to the Williams of paternity

:29:35. > :29:39.very. At least he has not had to go off to the medical centre this time.

:29:40. > :29:55.-- to the Williams hospitality area. TOM CLARKSON: The teams were warned

:29:56. > :29:59.about raining before the start of this race, and I have had a look at

:30:00. > :30:04.the tyres which came off Fernando Alonso's car, and that front left

:30:05. > :30:09.was showing a lot of greening. A quick word on Jenson Button, I saw

:30:10. > :30:14.his pit stop, 5.9 seconds, and there was some confusion with Jean-Eric

:30:15. > :30:18.Vergne coming down the fast lane, and the mechanics stopped him,

:30:19. > :30:21.before then letting him go, as the other driver came fast, so that was

:30:22. > :30:47.an unnecessary delay. Turn 3. Vettel had the DRS as well.

:30:48. > :30:54.Vettel is going for the insight. Kimi Raikkonen gets the apex.

:30:55. > :31:00.Another bit of bodywork has fallen off the car. He will have a naked

:31:01. > :31:09.Ferrari in the end! It is a long time since we have seen two

:31:10. > :31:14.Ferraris take it other on. Sebastien Vettel allowed Alonso to close up a

:31:15. > :31:23.little bit. Nico Rosberg has managed to go further than those around him.

:31:24. > :31:30.Bottas has come in on the same lap. Just one Williams left in this race

:31:31. > :31:36.and two Mercedes. Hamilton is in third position with these pit stops

:31:37. > :31:48.being made. A pretty good stop for a Valterri Bottas. 3.2, not their

:31:49. > :31:53.best, but pretty effective. The front right endplate has broken off

:31:54. > :31:57.Kimi Raikkonen's car. That will affect his performance. He gets

:31:58. > :32:06.contact them both. He must have felt a pinball. That is incredible. His

:32:07. > :32:13.front wing endplate is completely broken. Will they look at a nose

:32:14. > :32:18.change when he comes into the pits? Let's see what Jenson Button was

:32:19. > :32:26.doing. His team-mate was on the outside as well. He keeps out of the

:32:27. > :32:35.way. RADIO: Lewis, it is not critical. You will be target -2.

:32:36. > :32:43.Hamilton does not fight Valterri Bottas. There is no drama. Hamilton

:32:44. > :32:54.knows he has got to race at his own pace. That suggests to me they are

:32:55. > :32:57.targeting a two-stop race. The lower temperatures may indicate Williams

:32:58. > :33:06.can hang on into a two-stop themselves. The track temperature is

:33:07. > :33:15.so different to Friday. This is Hulkenberg going past Kimi

:33:16. > :33:20.Raikkonen. Kimi Raikkonen getting to overlap 20 and he is going out on

:33:21. > :33:23.the super soft tyre. That is a wounded Ferrari if the front right

:33:24. > :33:36.endplate is missing and the top flap. That was a massive slide.

:33:37. > :33:44.Maldonado is trying to take full advantage of that in the Lotus. The

:33:45. > :33:51.loss of momentum from caveat. They are being chased by Gutierrez.

:33:52. > :34:10.Maldonado plonks his car on the apex. Daniil Kvyat has been a fairly

:34:11. > :34:19.safe pair of hands. Perez is having a good go at getting past. Lotus are

:34:20. > :34:22.struggling a bit this weekend. Yesterday they announced Pastor

:34:23. > :34:31.Maldonado will definitely be with the team next season. This is Sergio

:34:32. > :34:35.Perez. This is except, turn eight. They powered through ten and he has

:34:36. > :34:55.to lift out of it. Clean racing, wheel-to-wheel. RADIO: We will be

:34:56. > :35:02.going plus one, same tyre. That moves Raikkonen up in ninth

:35:03. > :35:09.position. Magnussen must have been slow of Turn 3 and Raikkonen with

:35:10. > :35:15.the benefit of the DRS flap open. Hamilton comes in, his first pit

:35:16. > :35:19.stop. He started on the harder compound tyre and allowed him to go

:35:20. > :35:23.much deeper into the Grand Prix. A great overhead view of the pit stop

:35:24. > :35:29.and the choreography works to perfection. His lock-up was between

:35:30. > :35:34.two white lines, almost as if he had come in a little bit faster than he

:35:35. > :35:41.would have liked and he slowed the car down. You have markers in the

:35:42. > :35:51.pit lane that average out the spin it goes at. Maybe we can look at

:35:52. > :35:57.that later. He has gone back out on the harder tyre. He will have to put

:35:58. > :36:04.the super soft on at the end of the Grand Prix, but he has done 27 laps

:36:05. > :36:11.on his first set. Alonso has closed the gap even further. Sebastien

:36:12. > :36:20.Vettel, I should say. He is not going to give up on this one. RADIO:

:36:21. > :36:33.There is a problem with the power. Scenario 11. Romain Grosjean has

:36:34. > :36:38.pulled off the track. If you have a problem with the power and you have

:36:39. > :36:42.a strategy of scenario 11, it shows you how many problems they are

:36:43. > :36:55.having. Another failure to add to the list. RADIO: Stand-by, we are

:36:56. > :37:01.looking for a radio fault. It will be the fourth non-finish of the

:37:02. > :37:10.season for Romain Grosjean. He scored six podium finishes in 2013.

:37:11. > :37:21.What a difference season it is going to be. RADIO: Move the chassis

:37:22. > :37:34.switch backwards and forwards to move out of two. Look how much is

:37:35. > :37:40.going on. Hamilton is trying to go on the outside of Daniel Ricciardo.

:37:41. > :37:45.This is seventh place. He is on a pretty fresh set of tyres. Hamilton

:37:46. > :37:57.makes easier work of it this time as he goes past the Red Bull of Daniel

:37:58. > :38:02.Ricciardo. He was doing over 200 miles an hour and fiddling with

:38:03. > :38:17.loads of switches. The multitasking is astonishing. This is how Hamilton

:38:18. > :38:25.went through. We go back on board with Hamilton. There is a bit of

:38:26. > :38:34.contact again. That is with Button. Lewis Hamilton needs to be a bit

:38:35. > :38:38.wary. He has lost a flap. If you believe all the pieces are there

:38:39. > :38:43.because they do something, that will affect his performance. He needs to

:38:44. > :38:48.be thinking about the long game. It is a compromise race already. Just

:38:49. > :38:56.get some solid points. He came from a long way back. That is why Button

:38:57. > :39:09.was not expecting it. Jenson Button did not do anything to compromise.

:39:10. > :39:15.He left as much space as he could. The former team-mates with a bit of

:39:16. > :39:20.a misunderstanding. There is damage to the front wing of Lewis

:39:21. > :39:28.Hamilton's car. The flap is bent over the front wheel. We know his

:39:29. > :39:31.standard pit stops are under 20 seconds. If they have to change that

:39:32. > :39:39.front wing, that would make it longer. This is the fuel use. That

:39:40. > :39:47.was straightforward, he gets past Jenson Button. A misunderstanding

:39:48. > :39:53.between them. That brings Hamilton into sixth place, but how wounded is

:39:54. > :39:57.that car? You presume designers put things on them because it makes a

:39:58. > :40:06.difference. This was the successful pass. A little apology from Lewis, a

:40:07. > :40:12.sporting gesture. Jenson Button in on Lap 32. He did 17 laps on that

:40:13. > :40:20.last set of tyres and he goes back onto the soft tyres. Has he run the

:40:21. > :40:27.super soft tyre? Yes, at the start of the Grand Prix. There is a great

:40:28. > :40:32.camera that runs down the pit lane and as the car stops, the camera

:40:33. > :40:38.rolls on and you can see how fast they service these cars. Four new

:40:39. > :40:53.wheels and tyres. A perfect example of teamwork. LEWIS HAMILTON: Is

:40:54. > :40:56.there anything we can do? Lewis, we are going to look at the strategy

:40:57. > :41:02.and we are going to calculate something and see what we can do for

:41:03. > :41:10.you. His last lap was faster than anyone else is doing. With the best

:41:11. > :41:16.will in the world, if you are changing a nose, it is a lot more

:41:17. > :41:17.involved pitch up and that could cost you ten seconds static time if

:41:18. > :41:28.it works well. Lewis Hamilton trying to get past Niko Hulkenberg.

:41:29. > :41:34.Hamilton should not take too long to find his way past the Force India. I

:41:35. > :41:43.have said that in the past, but Niko Hulkenberg has made it hard work.

:41:44. > :41:52.Niko Hulkenberg has done 18 laps on his tyres. He is catching up. This

:41:53. > :41:55.should be straightforward. Lewis Hamilton gets past the Force India

:41:56. > :42:01.and that brings him into fifth position. We saw earlier on a very

:42:02. > :42:06.dramatic first corner when Felipe Massa was flipped over in an instant

:42:07. > :42:11.with Kevin Magnussen. He is talking to Jenny.

:42:12. > :42:19.That looked like a very scary accident. Are you OK? Yes, I am OK.

:42:20. > :42:24.Definitely the accident was a little bit more scary watching than being

:42:25. > :42:33.inside. I saw everything the other way around. But I am fine. I did not

:42:34. > :42:36.have any impact, anything strong, so I am fine. The only thing is I am

:42:37. > :42:42.disappointed about what has happened. Another car finished my

:42:43. > :42:47.race like that, another car pushed me out. With the car it is very

:42:48. > :42:52.competitive and fast, so I am disappointed. Magnussen collided

:42:53. > :43:00.with you. How much were you aware of each other? Definitely I was in

:43:01. > :43:06.front. I was doing the corner in front of him. If somebody has to

:43:07. > :43:09.watch, it has to be the car behind. Honestly, I did not see the

:43:10. > :43:17.accident, but normally the car behind should break. You cannot have

:43:18. > :43:35.three cars in this place at the same corner. I also had my team-mate

:43:36. > :43:42.side-by-side on this corner. He has done 13 laps on those super-soft

:43:43. > :43:51.tyres and it is enough, says Kimi Raikkonen. Will we see Sebastien

:43:52. > :43:56.Vettel respond? I can see the Red Bull crew getting ready. I think he

:43:57. > :44:03.will respond to the pit stop. This will be fun. I wonder how quickly

:44:04. > :44:11.Alonso can get round this lap. He has fresh tyres. Alonso is coming

:44:12. > :44:15.through the last corner now. Sebastien Vettel should get out in

:44:16. > :44:21.front. Very interesting, different tyres. A big difference in speed.

:44:22. > :44:29.Alonso coming through in the background. He is bearing down on

:44:30. > :44:34.the Red Bull of Sebastien Vettel. He has got to get the feel for the car

:44:35. > :44:46.straightaway. Sebastien Vettel has gone wide. Fernando Alonso on the

:44:47. > :44:51.attack. We saw that at Silverstone. He has gone past Sebastien Vettel,

:44:52. > :44:56.but he locks up a little bit. But Sebastien Vettel will not give up

:44:57. > :45:06.easily. Remember the great battle we saw at Silverstone. But he made a

:45:07. > :45:17.mistake at ten two. He made it easier for Alonso to get past.

:45:18. > :45:30.We could be in for another fantastic battle between these two.

:45:31. > :45:45.He got himself in a position to be within that one second limit am so

:45:46. > :45:50.he could use the DRS. As Daniel Ricciardo makes his pit stop. He is

:45:51. > :46:01.out, I think he might have been on the super-softs, yes, he is. Let's

:46:02. > :46:17.just see where he comes back out. He is back out in eighth

:46:18. > :46:23.Look at the difference in drive that the Ferrari gets. That red is so

:46:24. > :46:38.slow on acceleration. Nico Hulkenberg's tyres are very

:46:39. > :46:45.old, compared to those around him. He has done 23 laps on those.

:46:46. > :46:53.We are approaching two thirds distance.

:46:54. > :46:58.RADIO: Lewis, we think we will try and add as much balance as we can

:46:59. > :47:05.with the wing that you have - it will lose us time if we change the

:47:06. > :47:12.wing. Kind of what we thought, David.

:47:13. > :47:21.They have the theory that -- the theory that on the inside part of

:47:22. > :47:29.the wing, you put the load on that side. But all of the load goes down

:47:30. > :47:33.through the central pillars. So, however you put the load on, it is

:47:34. > :47:38.going directly into the tyres. There might be an aerodynamic change, on

:47:39. > :47:43.one side, running low to the ground.

:47:44. > :47:45.might be an aerodynamic change, on one side, running So maybe the

:47:46. > :47:49.offset might actually give them something. I am sure it would not be

:47:50. > :47:56.something they have tried in the wind tunnel.

:47:57. > :48:03.RADIO: Really struggling with the left front now.

:48:04. > :48:08.Rosberg has done 24 laps now on this set of soft tyres. He did not sound

:48:09. > :48:14.as calm as I thought he might, given that he is 16 seconds ahead of

:48:15. > :48:18.Bottas in a faster car. But if Mercedes cannot do more than 24 laps

:48:19. > :48:24.on the soft tyre, you wonder how some of the others we'll get into

:48:25. > :48:33.the high 20s, low 30s, with that tyre. Tyre use is not always about

:48:34. > :48:43.the lap time, it is about the energy which is going into the rubber. All

:48:44. > :48:46.of those little marbles, that rubber, once upon a time, was

:48:47. > :48:55.actually in the service of the tyres. On two lap 41, and Rosberg

:48:56. > :48:57.leads by 15.9 seconds from Valtteri Bottas. Hamilton is up into third.

:48:58. > :49:10.Alonso is fourth. And Bottas is in.

:49:11. > :49:17.RADIO: This front left is not going to last. OK, Lewis, we will have to

:49:18. > :49:22.start looking at that is interesting, he is only on 13 laps,

:49:23. > :49:27.and that is because of the damage to the front wing, presumably. It will

:49:28. > :49:31.not help. But the driver builds up a picture of what the tyres are giving

:49:32. > :49:38.him, as the Grand Prix goes on. It is not a happy feeling. They will

:49:39. > :49:43.have to work on the strategy. A nice time of the race to stop for Bottas,

:49:44. > :49:47.on a two-stop strategy. Meanwhile, Perez dicing away with Adrian Sutil.

:49:48. > :49:54.And again there was contact. In fairness, for Perez, who was behind,

:49:55. > :49:59.trying to sneak up around the outside, you are putting yourself in

:50:00. > :50:01.a vulnerable position. I do not think Sutil was doing anything

:50:02. > :50:19.incorrect in trying to get back online.

:50:20. > :50:26.Race leader, into the pits, for what should be his final stop. This will

:50:27. > :50:33.give him 26 remaining to the end, which is exactly what he did on that

:50:34. > :50:37.last set of tyres. He of course is heading for victory here in Germany,

:50:38. > :50:42.if it all holds together. It did not hold together last time out at

:50:43. > :50:46.Silverstone, but comfortably in command of the German Grand Prix

:50:47. > :50:52.currently. Lewis Hamilton is currently in second place.

:50:53. > :50:58.RADIO: Sebastian, we need a little bit more fuel. Tell me what you

:50:59. > :51:06.want, do you want me to drive fast, or do you want me to save fuel? We

:51:07. > :51:16.need a little bit more fuel. He is being asked to respect the beeps...

:51:17. > :51:25.They have a radio system, they have beeps which the drivers can listen

:51:26. > :51:31.to, and it tells them when it is time to change gear. Depending on

:51:32. > :51:36.the engine mode they have set on the steering wheel, it could be fuel

:51:37. > :51:39.saving mode, and presumably the beeps are all adjusted according to

:51:40. > :51:55.that. RADIO: Lewis, box, box, box, push as

:51:56. > :52:00.much as you can. So, it looks like another stop for Lewis Hamilton. He

:52:01. > :52:04.has only managed 15 this set, which is due to the damage to the front

:52:05. > :52:15.wing, we think. Super softs owing on. I guess 24 laps would be a lot

:52:16. > :52:20.for those. 3.4 seconds, not the best, for Mercedes. So he has still

:52:21. > :52:26.got a race on his hands, as a result of that little touch he had with

:52:27. > :52:32.Jenson Button. He comes out just in front of the battle between Daniel

:52:33. > :52:33.Ricciardo and Jenson Button. Daniel getting himself into position to try

:52:34. > :52:51.to overtake. RADIO: Lewis, you will be on 13 lap

:52:52. > :52:57.stint is, we think, we will need to manage them, but you should have

:52:58. > :53:03.good pace. Two sprints to the end, then. Every time he comes in for a

:53:04. > :53:12.set of tyres, if they do a slick stop... Ricciardo, making a move on

:53:13. > :53:26.Jenson Button! Jenson Button fending him off.

:53:27. > :53:30.Jenson finish, the last time we came to

:53:31. > :53:53.Hockenheim. Coming up into the stadium, Sutil

:53:54. > :53:59.defending hard, but in the end, he gets through. Sebastian Vettel

:54:00. > :54:02.making another pit stop, this is his third. Of course he went for the

:54:03. > :54:08.super-soft earlier, so we thought he would have to stop again. He is now

:54:09. > :54:13.on the soft tyre, going to the end. We do not know whether Alonso will

:54:14. > :54:19.be able to hang on. And that is Kvyat, on fire! It reminds me of vas

:54:20. > :54:28.tap-in at Hockenheim here, many years ago, in the pits. We need a

:54:29. > :54:37.safety car for this. That is such a shame. We did not see the start of

:54:38. > :54:50.that, as to what has caused it, but Toro Rosso have suffered a number of

:54:51. > :54:53.DNFs this year. It is just a question of whether they can move

:54:54. > :54:59.that car. One of the volatile issues they have is the battery packs on

:55:00. > :55:02.these cars. Once they get into a situation of effectively destroying

:55:03. > :55:12.themselves, you cannot stop that process, all you can do is douse

:55:13. > :55:14.them in water. Otherwise they will be able to just push it into the

:55:15. > :55:32.gap. Sebastian Vettel has got some work

:55:33. > :55:35.to do, on this three stop strategy. Valtteri Bottas, still hoping for a

:55:36. > :55:39.second-place finish, but being chased by Alonso and Hamilton.

:55:40. > :55:45.Another very rapid lap from Lewis Hamilton.

:55:46. > :55:53.RADIO: Is my pay is good enough? Yes, Lewis, is good, pace is good.

:55:54. > :55:59.We know that Lewis Hamilton has got another pit stop to come, which will

:56:00. > :56:01.be in full or five laps' time. I do not think he will lose any time

:56:02. > :56:10.getting past Alonso! And he sweeps past, moving into

:56:11. > :56:32.third position for now. We think that Button is trying to

:56:33. > :56:36.get to the end on this set of tyres. He has already done 17 laps on them

:56:37. > :56:40.and there is a long way to go, so he will have to be very careful on that

:56:41. > :56:46.set of tyres. Not taking any chances, not running off-line to

:56:47. > :56:47.defend, where the debris is. Purple again for Hamilton in the middle

:56:48. > :57:04.sector. Adrian Sutil has spun out of the

:57:05. > :57:09.final corner. Has he stalled? It could be a problem with the

:57:10. > :57:13.electrical charge system. That means that the electrical system in the

:57:14. > :57:20.car is not in its secure mode, and I am not sure he will be able to start

:57:21. > :57:23.that. It is very difficult for the there is no martial on the inside of

:57:24. > :57:30.the track currently. So, safety car. We know that Lewis Hamilton needs a

:57:31. > :57:47.pit stop, so he could take advantage of this.

:57:48. > :57:52.Hamilton making his next pit stop. This is not perfect because the

:57:53. > :57:59.super-soft tyres will have to go a little bit further. 3.5 seconds. I

:58:00. > :58:04.wonder what is going on there? So, Hamilton is on his way, it has not

:58:05. > :58:09.cost him too much time, and he will now race to the end of the Grand

:58:10. > :58:13.Prix on that final set of new super-soft tyres, which he had left

:58:14. > :58:14.after qualifying, because he never used a single set of them in

:58:15. > :58:23.qualifying. And there is our race leader,

:58:24. > :58:29.leading by 16.5 seconds from Valtteri Bottas. Fernando Alonso is

:58:30. > :58:34.in third, but he will be chased once again by Lewis Hamilton, and that is

:58:35. > :58:37.now the big question - is Lewis Hamilton going to be able to run

:58:38. > :58:41.down Fernando Alonso in the remaining part of this Grand Prix?

:58:42. > :58:48.It is the fight for third place, a final podium position, and that is

:58:49. > :58:56.what Lewis Hamilton is aiming for. Maldonado is having quite a decent

:58:57. > :59:01.run of it, in 12th. He is 9.4 seconds behind Alonso. He is

:59:02. > :59:24.significantly faster. RADIO: Give me feedback on the tyre

:59:25. > :59:31.from your end. It feels like we could make it to the end, but it

:59:32. > :59:42.will not be easy. Just keep managing the pace until we get to the end.

:59:43. > :59:53.Meanwhile, Ricciardo gets past Hulkenberg... Hulkenberg is not

:59:54. > :59:58.giving up. Not quite enough. Again, that was the Mercedes power unit

:59:59. > :00:26.coming out on top against the Renault.

:00:27. > :00:35.steady. His tyres are shot. We will have to see another stop for Alonso.

:00:36. > :00:43.He cannot afford a stop. That is a massive fuel saving for Alonso. Tom.

:00:44. > :00:49.The mechanics have come to the wall of tyres for both drivers and I have

:00:50. > :00:55.just seen they are super-soft, so I am expecting to see Alonso come in

:00:56. > :00:58.any minute now. Is Hamilton going to get more graining at the front

:00:59. > :01:07.because of the state of that front wheel? Hamilton is in third place.

:01:08. > :01:14.Now he chases after Valterri Bottas to take second place. Can he really

:01:15. > :01:18.did that? Alonso is in. He is bailing out and

:01:19. > :01:23.did that? Alonso is in. He is stop. The way he ghosted in town

:01:24. > :01:28.two, he is in a situation where he has run out of rubber and is low on

:01:29. > :01:36.fuel. I think Hamilton is going to do it. They super-soft attire is

:01:37. > :01:44.going on the Ferrari. Look where Alonso comes back out. He comes out

:01:45. > :01:50.just behind Ricciardo. But Alonso is now on a nice, fresh set of tyres.

:01:51. > :02:00.Let's hope he is not in fuel saving mode. If he still has to save fuel,

:02:01. > :02:06.it will not be so easy to overtake. Ricciardo trying to get past Jenson

:02:07. > :02:13.Button. Jenson Button may not fight it that hard if he is trying to get

:02:14. > :02:18.to the end on that set of tyres. McLaren is on the older tyres, but

:02:19. > :02:25.it has the straight line speed. An excellent move. That is good from

:02:26. > :02:34.the Australian. He is showing as this year that he can really attack

:02:35. > :02:40.and race hard as well. Great to see. On board with Alonso. He is going

:02:41. > :02:45.after Jenson Button. That he is passed easily. Fernando Alonso takes

:02:46. > :03:06.the sixth position. Alonso is pretty determined to get

:03:07. > :03:13.fifth. He is behind Ricciardo. He has got the DRS and it will be easy

:03:14. > :03:25.on these super-soft tyres. Ricciardo has two comeback. Alonso allows him

:03:26. > :03:39.space. Will he be able to do anything in to turn eight? This is

:03:40. > :03:43.about putting down a marker. He knows he is going to be passed by

:03:44. > :03:49.Alonso, but he is not going to make it easy. When they have got an

:03:50. > :03:59.parable cars, he will not give an inch. He is what you call racing.

:04:00. > :04:05.This is adding to Ricciardo's reputation at the moment. He is

:04:06. > :04:10.having to be taken seriously by all of the top drivers in Formula One.

:04:11. > :04:15.How much more he can do, I am not sure, but Alonso has to rethink

:04:16. > :04:22.this. It is great. Have I said that already? We are enjoying it. This is

:04:23. > :04:30.where Ricciardo struggles to get the power down. But Alonso gets wide.

:04:31. > :04:36.The last time around he passed earlier. There is sparking

:04:37. > :04:43.underneath the car. He has picked something up on the body. He still

:04:44. > :04:50.stays in front. But he has picked up a bunch of marbles on his tyres. Go

:04:51. > :05:00.defensive, stayed to the left, Daniel. He is very clear in what he

:05:01. > :05:07.is doing. He is compromised in nine. Alonso should have the inside line.

:05:08. > :05:14.No, he does not. Ricciardo fend him off again. He only just stays on.

:05:15. > :05:27.Hamilton is catching Bottas for a second. That is the battle between

:05:28. > :05:37.second and third place. RADIO: Use overtake to defend. Bear in mind we

:05:38. > :05:42.have to use this tyre to the end. We will keep you updated on the battle

:05:43. > :05:48.between Ricciardo and Alonso. Ricciardo is still in front. You can

:05:49. > :05:54.see the marking on the front left of Hamilton's time. Williams are very

:05:55. > :06:05.quick in the speed trap and in that middle sector they are faster than

:06:06. > :06:15.Mercedes in qualifying. Ricciardo fending off Alonso at the moment.

:06:16. > :06:23.RADIO: You can use overtake to defend. He will not stop. Too much

:06:24. > :06:32.speed. Ricciardo is coming back again, but he tucks in behind. You

:06:33. > :06:40.can sense Alonso is loving this. Ricciardo is doing it again! Just

:06:41. > :06:43.enough space between them and Alonso stays in front. Alonso gave him

:06:44. > :06:49.plenty of space and used that momentum to come back again. It

:06:50. > :07:03.looks as if it is all over for Daniel, but what a brave fight he

:07:04. > :07:09.put up. Two laps to go. He had DRS on that straight. Can Hamilton find

:07:10. > :07:15.his way into second position? He is trying everything to cut the

:07:16. > :07:21.corners. Once those p a rallys open up and you get the graining, the

:07:22. > :07:34.expression from the past was that they just fall off the cliff. --

:07:35. > :07:43.Pirelli 's. This is really hurting Lewis Hamilton. Bottas is defending.

:07:44. > :07:51.Nico Rosberg is 20 seconds ahead of these two. A comfortable victory on

:07:52. > :07:57.the cards for Nico Rosberg. But who will finish second? Sebastien Vettel

:07:58. > :08:03.seems to be heading for a fourth, Alonso fifth, Ricciardo six,

:08:04. > :08:11.seems to be heading for a fourth, Jenson Button is aid. Sergio Perez

:08:12. > :08:18.is intense. Sebastien Vettel is being told he needs to save more

:08:19. > :08:23.fuel. He ought to be able to save fuel and still hold on to fourth

:08:24. > :08:29.position, but he will miss out on the podium. The leader is already on

:08:30. > :08:35.his final lap and Lewis Hamilton is running out of time to get past

:08:36. > :08:40.Bottas. But remember he is driving a wounded car and that damage has had

:08:41. > :08:44.a huge effect on whether he will finish second or third. That was an

:08:45. > :08:49.error of judgement when he came together with Jenson Button. He

:08:50. > :08:55.tried to adjust and make the car more balanced. But Valterri Bottas

:08:56. > :09:02.has done enough to take an excellent second place. Hamilton, despite the

:09:03. > :09:06.disappointment from the damage, cannot be disappointed picking up

:09:07. > :09:19.third from the back of the grid once again. Hamilton is running out of

:09:20. > :09:25.time. There is Nico Rosberg. We have not seen much of him because all the

:09:26. > :09:33.action has been behind him. It has been an easy, dominant victory for

:09:34. > :09:37.Nico Rosberg. Nico Rosberg wins the German Grand Prix for Mercedes. A

:09:38. > :09:42.great performance. His seventh career victory, his fourth win of

:09:43. > :09:47.the season and the first time a German driver has won in an all

:09:48. > :09:51.German car to win the German Grand Prix says the Formula One World

:09:52. > :10:00.Championship began. You have to go back to prewar days in 1939. That is

:10:01. > :10:06.Williams 300 podium, scored by Valterri Bottas who fended off Lewis

:10:07. > :10:10.Hamilton. Fourth place it will be Sebastien Vettel even if he is

:10:11. > :10:18.saving fuel. Ricciardo has caught Alonso. I do not think there is a

:10:19. > :10:26.chance to overtake. Alonso is really slow on his entries. Where he has

:10:27. > :10:40.won on the last two times at Hockenheim, Alonso now has settle

:10:41. > :10:46.for fifth. Niko Hulkenberg will finish in seventh place and Jenson

:10:47. > :10:59.Button, eight. RADIO: Great driving, really good job. Yes! Thank you!

:11:00. > :11:04.Excellent, guys. What a week for Nico Rosberg. He gets married, his

:11:05. > :11:09.team win the World Cup and he wins the German Grand Prix. It could not

:11:10. > :11:14.be much better. The first time Mercedes have ever won at this

:11:15. > :11:20.track, which is funny because it was originally built as a Mercedes test

:11:21. > :11:27.track. The first time Mercedes have taken a win here and it is with Nico

:11:28. > :11:29.Rosberg, there are German driver. A comfortable victory in the end by

:11:30. > :12:19.over 20 seconds. The trophies are handed out. Nico

:12:20. > :12:25.Rosberg achieving something his father never achieved, to win the

:12:26. > :12:31.German Grand Prix. Valterri Bottas, second. And Lewis Hamilton

:12:32. > :12:38.recovering from a difficult weekend to finish in third place. Not losing

:12:39. > :12:45.too many points to his team-mate. Still fighting for the 2014 title.

:12:46. > :12:51.Nico Rosberg has opened the gap to 14 points. Next time it is one of

:12:52. > :13:02.Hamilton's favourite circuits in just a week's time. Hamilton will

:13:03. > :13:05.definitely be out for revenge. Some great celebrations and

:13:06. > :13:12.everybody wanting a piece of Nico Rosberg. We did not see much of you

:13:13. > :13:19.out there. I was there in fact. Out of trouble and it seemed to go like

:13:20. > :13:22.clockwork. Any problems? It was one of the easier races definitely

:13:23. > :13:29.today. But it is OK to have them from time to time after all the

:13:30. > :13:36.battles with Lewis Hamilton. I am very happy on home soil to win. It

:13:37. > :13:42.is fantastic. The support from everybody was great and it was also

:13:43. > :13:45.fantastic Lewis made it up onto the podium after the bad luck yesterday

:13:46. > :13:51.and it was great for the team we both ended up on the podium. Only

:13:52. > :13:57.one week between now and Budapest. What can you do in that time between

:13:58. > :14:02.now and then to maintain the gap? Lewis is coming back at you strong.

:14:03. > :14:09.I always expect that. With the car we have I wish the next race was

:14:10. > :14:15.tomorrow. It is so enjoyable at the moment. It will be an ongoing battle

:14:16. > :14:20.with Lewis for sure, even in Hungary. It is a great fight.

:14:21. > :14:27.Hungary is a nice track and I am enjoying driving the car, it feels

:14:28. > :14:32.good, it is to my liking. Not long, just a few days until we are all in

:14:33. > :14:39.Hungary. Thank you for stopping by to say hello to us. Thanks a lot.

:14:40. > :14:46.Let's hear from his team-mate. You started at 20 and gained 17

:14:47. > :14:52.positions for third. Can you be happy with that? Absolutely. To be

:14:53. > :14:57.starting from last I did not imagine I would be up on the podium, so I am

:14:58. > :15:02.very grateful for the overall job. It is meant to be a noncontact

:15:03. > :15:09.sport, but there was quite a lot of contact today. You lost a bit of

:15:10. > :15:15.wing. Jansen has been very much a gentleman in previous races. It

:15:16. > :15:23.looked as if he had gone wide and he cuts back across. I do not know if

:15:24. > :15:29.he did not see me or what, but it cost us with the car. 14 points is

:15:30. > :15:36.the gap. How do you feel about it this season? I do not have much

:15:37. > :15:41.feeling at the moment. I have had a lot of issues with the car.

:15:42. > :15:48.Unfortunately I lost a lot of points again today. I hope at some stage we

:15:49. > :15:54.have a little bit less bad luck. I don't want luck, I would

:15:55. > :15:54.have a little bit less bad luck. I have bad luck. Lewis regretting that

:15:55. > :16:05.Jenson Button incident, but what an have bad luck. Lewis regretting that

:16:06. > :16:13.20th to third. Montoya did that in 2005, so he can be happy with it.

:16:14. > :16:18.But he was disappointed because he came up short. He could have got

:16:19. > :16:25.past Bottas. There was some spectacular action for racing fans.

:16:26. > :16:30.Yes, across the field. You can see Raikkonen coming past Ricciardo.

:16:31. > :16:32.There was a bit of contact with the Ferrari. That is because he saw

:16:33. > :17:04.Force India in front of him. was no malice from Jenson. And of

:17:05. > :17:07.course, Lewis was being too cautious. Clearly there is a lot of

:17:08. > :17:11.that front wing missing, which is what then damages the tyres, you

:17:12. > :17:15.just do not have the same load on the front axle. You agree that lost

:17:16. > :17:22.him a place on the podium? Potentially, yes. It certainly did

:17:23. > :17:28.not help. Congratulations, that is the 300th

:17:29. > :17:32.podium for Williams Grand Prix, so what did Sir frank have to say to

:17:33. > :17:40.you? He was happy. He was asking about the car. There are still many

:17:41. > :17:45.things to improve on the car, and he is a race, and he is always keen to

:17:46. > :17:51.improve. But he was happy, and he said well done, and it is always

:17:52. > :17:55.really special to hear well done from a guy like him. What about you,

:17:56. > :17:59.you must be happy and confident now, you had a strong qualifying

:18:00. > :18:05.yesterday, and then you maximised it in the race? Yes, again, good race

:18:06. > :18:12.from us. And for me. So, I am really happy. Third race in a row on the

:18:13. > :18:16.podium. We did hope that we would be a bit closer to the Mercedes, but

:18:17. > :18:23.there was no way today to fight with them. Well, to fight with Nico. But

:18:24. > :18:30.it is really, really nice to keep one of our cars between the two

:18:31. > :18:33.silver ones. But it was unlucky for Sandy again, he has been really

:18:34. > :18:38.unlucky. But we really need to start scoring more points with both cars.

:18:39. > :18:42.But talking about getting ahead of the Mercedes, how did you do it,

:18:43. > :18:49.because the last ten laps were really close? They were. I saw him

:18:50. > :18:53.in the mirror, and he was on the super-soft, and I knew that if I

:18:54. > :18:57.could keep him behind for a few laps, normally the tyres will start

:18:58. > :19:04.to overheat. I also saw in the mirror that he had some graining on

:19:05. > :19:08.the front left. So I knew that all of the right-hand corners were going

:19:09. > :19:12.to be my callers. So I knew that it was important to get a good exits

:19:13. > :19:17.from turn one and turn two. That was going to be the key, and

:19:18. > :19:22.from turn one and turn two. That was to do it. At that point, when I got

:19:23. > :19:26.the message from the engineers, and when I saw him in the mirror, I

:19:27. > :19:30.could not go flat out, because there were still so many laps to go. I

:19:31. > :19:38.knew that I needed to save the tyres for the end of the race. I was not

:19:39. > :19:42.really worried, because I knew I had a bit more pace when he got right

:19:43. > :19:47.behind me. But I have to say, in the last four laps, there was no more

:19:48. > :19:52.pace left, that was it. Congratulations, I am sure you are

:19:53. > :19:55.looking forward to Budapest. We are, it could be a bit more difficult for

:19:56. > :20:02.us, but with some updates, hopefully they will help. It was at a rhythmic

:20:03. > :20:06.race for Valtteri, you wanted Williams to be ahead of Ferrari by

:20:07. > :20:12.the summer break, and you have done it one week early? We have. That was

:20:13. > :20:16.the aim, to beat Ferrari and get their P3, and we achieved that. He

:20:17. > :20:22.drove a seamless race, he was fantastic, he keeps proving it. He

:20:23. > :20:28.is certainly on a great run, but someone who is not having a good run

:20:29. > :20:33.is Felipe, taken out on the first lap for the third time this year, no

:20:34. > :20:38.fault of his own. I presume your heart was in your mouth when you saw

:20:39. > :20:41.this at the start? It always is, at the first corner, you just want your

:20:42. > :20:47.car to get through that first corner. I cannot believe this has

:20:48. > :20:53.happened to Felipe again. He has had the most unbelievable bad luck. He

:20:54. > :20:58.is fine, but I said, do we need to try and get some kind of spiritual

:20:59. > :21:03.assistance in?! He said, I have done it before, it does not help! But he

:21:04. > :21:07.picks himself up and brushes himself off, and I just hope that in

:21:08. > :21:12.Hungary, his fortunes turn around. He had the scenes, he does a

:21:13. > :21:17.fantastic job, we just need to get him doing that on the race track for

:21:18. > :21:22.us. Three podiums in a row now, can we safely say that Williams are

:21:23. > :21:26.back, after more than 11 years? Yes, consistency is important for us, we

:21:27. > :21:31.do not want flash in the pan success. The team has made that step

:21:32. > :21:35.forward, but we are not winning yet, and that is what we have got to aim

:21:36. > :21:41.for now. Thank you and well done today.

:21:42. > :21:48.A feisty Daniel Ricciardo today, what a spicy race that was, and made

:21:49. > :21:52.more difficult for you by having to avoid that accident at the start?

:21:53. > :21:58.Yes, we did not trawl the short straw quite as much as Felipe, but

:21:59. > :22:02.we did lose out from that. We just had to recover, it was what it was,

:22:03. > :22:08.wrong place, wrong time, that is racing. From then on, I just said to

:22:09. > :22:11.the guys on the radio, let's make an amazing recovery, and take something

:22:12. > :22:17.away from today. There was definitely fire in this early

:22:18. > :22:24.today. I could sense that Alonso was relishing the battle that you took

:22:25. > :22:29.to him. Did you think you were going to get in his slipstream again after

:22:30. > :22:34.he got past? Yes, I was not going to make it easy. I knew he was on fresh

:22:35. > :22:39.tyres, but I figured if I could hold him off just long enough, maybe his

:22:40. > :22:44.tyres would start to go. Yes, it was fun, I had a really good time.

:22:45. > :22:48.Meanwhile, the battle continued, and this was a great pass down the

:22:49. > :22:53.inside, he gave you just enough space. Yes, I do not know how much

:22:54. > :22:59.the TV court, but this was going on for five laps or something. We were

:23:00. > :23:03.with you all the way! It was good fun, obviously, Alonso has got a lot

:23:04. > :23:07.of respect in the paddock for being a hard race, so no one better to

:23:08. > :23:12.test yourself against. Have you had a chance to talk about it after the

:23:13. > :23:16.race? Not yet. I am going to give him a bit of a smile just to let him

:23:17. > :23:21.know that I really enjoyed that. I have not seen him yet! It is

:23:22. > :23:25.enthralling watching, so, from your point of view, tell us exactly what

:23:26. > :23:35.you are feeling when you are in a contest like that? I don't know, you

:23:36. > :23:38.have got a lot of adrenaline going through you, and you are kind of

:23:39. > :23:43.angry at the same time, you are not going to take this away from me,

:23:44. > :23:53.kind of thing. It was just good fun. It certainly was the race OF

:23:54. > :23:56.the race. And you certainly entertained us today, even if you

:23:57. > :24:01.have not won the Grand Prix. That was the plan! Thank you for

:24:02. > :24:07.entertaining us! Moving forward to next weekend, have you thought about

:24:08. > :24:11.that yet? A little bit. It is only a couple of days, so it is important

:24:12. > :24:17.that we learn quickly from this weekend and put everything we can

:24:18. > :24:19.into next weekend. It is a high downforce circuit, everybody says,

:24:20. > :24:25.similar to Monaco, without the barriers. It should favour as a bit

:24:26. > :24:28.more, but Williams are really strong at the moment. Hopefully we can get

:24:29. > :24:35.on the podium. Thanks for chatting with us today. Next, we can hear

:24:36. > :24:39.from your team-mate. Is it nice to be able to be a bit more aggressive

:24:40. > :24:43.in front of your home fans? Well, I would have loved to be more

:24:44. > :24:47.aggressive today, but we did not have the pace that we were hoping

:24:48. > :24:52.for. I did not see much of the Mercedes, to be honest, they were

:24:53. > :24:55.gone fairly quickly. We kind of stuck to the Williams in the first

:24:56. > :24:59.couple of laps, but then we struggled more with the tyres.

:25:00. > :25:04.Valtteri disappeared, and we did not see him, either. So we were fairly

:25:05. > :25:11.isolated, racing for third and fourth. After the first stop, I saw

:25:12. > :25:15.Lewis in front of me, and it was clear that he was getting passed

:25:16. > :25:21.most of the field very quickly. So, let's confirm today's race results.

:25:22. > :25:27.Nico Rosberg on the top step of the podium. Valtteri Bottas, defensive

:25:28. > :25:33.driving gave him that second place. And Lewis Hamilton came from the

:25:34. > :25:34.back of the grid to third place. So, the Drivers' Championship looks like

:25:35. > :25:47.this... In terms of the Constructors'

:25:48. > :25:53.Championship, Williams have jumped ahead of Ferrari. Alan McNish is

:25:54. > :25:58.back with us now. Thoughts from today, it was exciting, wasn't it?

:25:59. > :26:02.It was fantastically exciting. Lewis Hamilton coming through from 20th to

:26:03. > :26:07.third. When he damaged his front wing, he lost about 3.5% of

:26:08. > :26:11.aerodynamic Alencon the front, which put a lot more load on the tyres,

:26:12. > :26:15.and it put a lot of graining onto the tyres. So he could not really

:26:16. > :26:24.battled well every Bottas at the end. That I have to say, Bottas did

:26:25. > :26:28.drive superbly. It must be frustrating for Fernando to know

:26:29. > :26:32.that he hits the best he can, the sweetest spot, with that car every

:26:33. > :26:36.single race, but he is just not on the podium? That is what makes his

:26:37. > :26:39.performance and so remarkable. He does not throw the towel in just

:26:40. > :26:44.because he has not got a winning car. I get the sense he really

:26:45. > :26:48.enjoyed that battle with Daniel Ricciardo, and it really entertained

:26:49. > :26:52.us. How do you feel about the Championship now, moving on to

:26:53. > :26:57.Hungary? Lewis, a bit fed up about the Jenson thing, but he has got a

:26:58. > :27:00.few days to sort himself out? I do not think that is a particular

:27:01. > :27:05.problem. Going into the British Grand Prix, the difference was 29

:27:06. > :27:10.points. So it is better than that. In qualifying, he could not do

:27:11. > :27:14.anything about that. He is very fast at Hungary, he has had a lot of

:27:15. > :27:18.success there, it is his style of circuit, and I am sure he will be

:27:19. > :27:25.back on it. The fact is, he came from the back of the grey to get

:27:26. > :27:30.onto the podium. Yes, he did seem a bit deflated, given what he did, but

:27:31. > :27:35.he knows that every time he gets close to Nico, something happens. He

:27:36. > :27:39.wants to go into the summer break leading the Championship, and to do

:27:40. > :27:44.that, he knows that Nico Rosberg will have to have some kind of

:27:45. > :27:47.reliability issue in the next race. I think Williams will be strong or
