:00:11. > :01:37.All the historic motorsport buildings in Italy, this old Fiat

:01:38. > :01:43.factory has got to be one of the iconic. We are right in the heart of

:01:44. > :01:48.Turin, we are at the top of one of the most iconic buildings, the Fiat

:01:49. > :01:51.test facility. This classic old banking. You have a sense of the

:01:52. > :01:59.importance of the motor vehicle to the Italians. They were great

:02:00. > :02:02.creators. Not just their cars, go back many centuries in time, Rome,

:02:03. > :02:07.the great buildings, great architects. They had this great

:02:08. > :02:12.affection for beauty and something that pleases the eye. That

:02:13. > :02:16.eventually came to their cars. What a perfect place for us ahead of the

:02:17. > :02:19.Italian Grand Prix to start our journey. If you more to play with as

:02:20. > :02:36.well. -- a few more. Here we go, we are approaching the

:02:37. > :02:43.famous banking. Ah! It feels extraordinary. Having gotten this

:02:44. > :02:49.close, it feels a bit weird. Get off! You are a liability!

:02:50. > :02:55.Formula One, here we come. I ticked off one of my bucket lists. You are

:02:56. > :03:02.beautifully lit. Did you say fit? Look up, guys, look how impressive

:03:03. > :03:14.that is. Is it just me, or are Italian

:03:15. > :03:18.cars... You have to be sitting so close with your legs to be able to

:03:19. > :03:24.reach the steering will with your arms? Is it because you have short

:03:25. > :03:31.legs? No, that is me, David is a bit of an orangutan.

:03:32. > :03:37.As we go towards the last European race, your standout performers? And

:03:38. > :03:44.who is the disappointment of the season? I was expecting a better

:03:45. > :03:48.season from Sebastian Vettel. Great to see Valtteri Bottas at William

:03:49. > :03:53.start to emerge. Ricciardo, the way he has lit up the press, he is the

:03:54. > :03:57.standout. Ferrari need to be competing for race victories every

:03:58. > :04:03.season. They have not looked even close to winning a Grand Prix this

:04:04. > :04:09.year. Ahead of us you can see the arch of peace, gentlemen. Will we

:04:10. > :04:14.see the two Mercedes drivers in conversation with Toto Wolff? Not

:04:15. > :04:21.grow much peace in that team. We are much to say we are excited but I am

:04:22. > :04:24.really excited. -- not much peace. We will be on the old banking of

:04:25. > :04:32.Monza in Italian cars, how good is that? Look how steep it is. This is

:04:33. > :04:48.ridiculous. I am a bit scared, I am sliding down the banking. Wow, look

:04:49. > :04:51.at this! LAUGHTER I am not sure I can get out of here.

:04:52. > :05:03.LAUGHTER I can stand here... I am just going

:05:04. > :05:15.to take my hands off. That's it. Hold on. No! You are pulling me

:05:16. > :05:23.down! Hold on! LAUGHTER This is something very special... It

:05:24. > :05:27.is very spectacular. Let's hope for a spectacular race today, welcome to

:05:28. > :05:35.Monza. I think Monza usually does... Shut up, we are finished,

:05:36. > :05:42.that is the "hello, welcome to Monza", don't keep going on. Eddie!

:05:43. > :05:47.Are you OK? LAUGHTER Please hold on to me!

:05:48. > :05:54.The sun is shining in magical Monza, I had no idea it would be that

:05:55. > :05:58.steep, David. It is incredibly steep. The camera doesn't do it

:05:59. > :06:03.justice. When we were riding the cars along the top were squirming,

:06:04. > :06:08.going along the way the top of the bank. Leather shoes on banking is

:06:09. > :06:13.quite difficult. Not good. I looked quite foolish, I am not proud of

:06:14. > :06:18.myself. I noticed your Wolverhampton accent. That came through nice and

:06:19. > :06:22.strong. Let's have a wander through the pit lane. This place has been on

:06:23. > :06:26.the calendar since the Formula One World Championship started in 1950.

:06:27. > :06:31.Only once did it go to allow for safety reasons it is passionate.

:06:32. > :06:35.They can never take it off the calendar, can they? Four races must

:06:36. > :06:40.never leave the annual Formula One calendar, Silverstone, Monaco, here

:06:41. > :06:44.and Spa. That is how good it is, it gives me a tingle every time I come

:06:45. > :06:49.in the door, just as spectacular, wonderful track. It certainly is.

:06:50. > :06:54.Plenty to talk about, the Mercedes jewel which went to another level

:06:55. > :06:57.and Spa, it seems to be quite calm. Before we go any further let's take

:06:58. > :07:04.a look back at qualifying yesterday. -- Mercedes duel. The crowd were

:07:05. > :07:08.hoping for a miracle from Ferrari at home ground but the team failed to

:07:09. > :07:11.deliver. Kimi Raikkonen was the first of the drivers to disappoint,

:07:12. > :07:15.he suffered from front locking in Q2 and could only manage 12th fastest.

:07:16. > :07:19.Lap times were not better for Fernando Alonso, he made it through

:07:20. > :07:24.to Q3 but will line up only seventh to be the highest placed car without

:07:25. > :07:28.a Mercedes power unit. A better showing from McLaren. Both cars

:07:29. > :07:31.qualified in the top six in dry conditions for the first time this

:07:32. > :07:36.year. The resurgence Williams team had a genuine shot at pole position

:07:37. > :07:41.but they had to settle for rogue two with Mercedes looking at the front

:07:42. > :07:44.row for the sixth time this season -- two. Inch perfect by Lewis

:07:45. > :07:48.Hamilton edged out team-mate Nico Rosberg. Ending a war sequence of

:07:49. > :07:54.qualifying session and getting him as first pole position since Spain

:07:55. > :07:57.eight races ago -- poor sequence of qualifying sessions. Hamilton and

:07:58. > :08:01.Rosberg will lead the field with Valtteri Bottas best of the rest

:08:02. > :08:04.ahead of team-mate Felipe Massa. Kevin Magnussen out-qualify Jenson

:08:05. > :08:10.Button for the seventh time this year as both McLarens made the third

:08:11. > :08:15.row Dutchman outqualified. To time Monza win a Fernando Alonso is next.

:08:16. > :08:21.-- two time Monza winner. Daniel Ricciardo is going for a hat-trick

:08:22. > :08:29.of wins this afternoon. Templated penalty for using a 6 engine means

:08:30. > :08:32.Kimi Raikkonen moves up to heaven ahead of Jean-Eric Vergne.

:08:33. > :08:39.Hulkenberg qualified 12th here. But 12 months ago. -- qualified here 12

:08:40. > :08:48.months ago. Another poor showing from Lotus.

:08:49. > :08:58.Daniil Kvyat's penalty means he drops to 21st. Marcus Ericsson is in

:08:59. > :09:02.the pit lane after ignoring safety flags. A strong day yesterday for

:09:03. > :09:08.Williams. We are joined by Deputy team printable Claire Williams. It

:09:09. > :09:12.was a good day. -- team principal. How it you feeling about race

:09:13. > :09:16.settings today? A bit scared. You look under pressure. There is

:09:17. > :09:21.expectation on the team for what ever reason. We have a good

:09:22. > :09:25.opportunity, this is a track that suits our car. The Mercedes power

:09:26. > :09:31.unit as well. The guys have locked out the second row. I hope they have

:09:32. > :09:35.a great race. I am secretly hoping Lewis and Nico take each other out

:09:36. > :09:39.in the first corner. LAUGHTER Have told Pat if you do make it part

:09:40. > :09:45.of our strategy, that. Would be great -- I have told. Talking about

:09:46. > :09:50.the two guys in front of you, how pleasing is it that Mercedes have

:09:51. > :09:54.come out and said we fear Williams, particularly on the straight? You

:09:55. > :09:57.have the best aerodynamic car in. Terms of speed surely you have a big

:09:58. > :10:02.advantage to take the fight to them. -- in terms of speed. It is

:10:03. > :10:05.great to hear that from Mercedes, they are a class act, a class of

:10:06. > :10:09.their own at the moment. To hear they are threatened by us is great.

:10:10. > :10:15.But they are ahead of us. We chipped away at their advantage. We have to

:10:16. > :10:19.see what we can do in the race. I still fear the Mercedes are going to

:10:20. > :10:23.go off into the distance a bit. The other teams that are running the

:10:24. > :10:26.Mercedes power unit will be strong, we saw the McLarens strong in

:10:27. > :10:31.qualifying yesterday and practice on Friday. Is it fair to say strategy

:10:32. > :10:35.is limited, it looks like it will be 1-stop, what can you do if you don't

:10:36. > :10:39.get away off the line and get the jump of the Mercedes? They have to

:10:40. > :10:47.get their heads down as do the best they can do, defend their positions

:10:48. > :10:52.what happens. For us, he and every race, it may sound boring, but it is

:10:53. > :10:56.always about the Constructors' for us. To score as many points as we

:10:57. > :11:01.can and take PIII Ferrari is our objective. We are only ten points

:11:02. > :11:07.behind, we will see what we can do -- take P three.

:11:08. > :11:12.This must be the first time in many years you have turned up at the

:11:13. > :11:16.Italian Grand Prix not as a Ferrari driver, you don't have the red

:11:17. > :11:25.carpet you have the faster car. Yet, we not read any more. -- red any

:11:26. > :11:29.more. It is great to be here in front of these amazing people with a

:11:30. > :11:36.good car as well. Anyway, I am very happy. I hope we can have a

:11:37. > :11:41.fantastic race today. Have a good race in front of these people. How

:11:42. > :11:45.can you get on the podium, strategy is so tired, is it a case of getting

:11:46. > :11:50.in front of the guys and keeping them behind? -- is so tight. We need

:11:51. > :11:54.to do everything we can in the perfect way, maybe we can be on the

:11:55. > :12:00.podium. How much would a podium mean? You have re-signed for

:12:01. > :12:06.Williams next season, fantastic. The fans still as my everything you have

:12:07. > :12:10.achieved it is important for me and the team, we are fighting for

:12:11. > :12:14.Ferrari. If we can get on the podium and school a good amount of points

:12:15. > :12:18.it is fantastic for the championship. We are looking forward

:12:19. > :12:23.to doing the second part of the season in a good way, to score more

:12:24. > :12:30.points than Ferrari that is a target today. Have a great race.

:12:31. > :12:34.Interesting. He was on his way to the drivers parade. Williams have

:12:35. > :12:37.announced both drivers today, no surprise, they are driving for the

:12:38. > :12:44.next year, peppered season so far for Massa. Is he the right choice

:12:45. > :12:47.for Williams next year? I do, he is a super nice person and he sued that

:12:48. > :12:53.team particularly well. With his experience? -- he suits. He has had

:12:54. > :12:59.a big influence on Bottas coming to the top. If Bottas had somebody much

:13:00. > :13:03.more robust and harder in terms of that role, you might not have

:13:04. > :13:08.flourished as much as he has. Beyond doubt one of the rookies of the

:13:09. > :13:11.year, not a rookie but one standing at along with Ricciardo as being

:13:12. > :13:16.possibly the two inspirations of this year driver wise. Do you feel

:13:17. > :13:22.the same way about Terry Bottas? A very valid point that Eddie makes.

:13:23. > :13:28.Aluko Massa has a huge amount of experience. -- about Valtteri

:13:29. > :13:32.Bottas. Rob Smedley, his race engineer from Ferrari. Couple that

:13:33. > :13:39.together with the raw speed that Valtteri has, they have a great

:13:40. > :13:43.lament and team spirit. Felipe is a team player. With Valtteri being

:13:44. > :13:46.confirmed, they are in good shape going forward, which is what

:13:47. > :13:50.Williams had been planning to come out of the doldrums. They have been

:13:51. > :13:55.in a terrible place a couple of years ago.

:13:56. > :14:00.It has been huge turnaround this year. Let's look at the

:14:01. > :14:05.championship. Valtteri Bottas currently fifth but the storm is

:14:06. > :14:08.that the front. Nico Rosberg has 29 points in hand ahead of Lewis

:14:09. > :14:11.Hamilton. Lewis Hamilton has only led the way once this season after

:14:12. > :14:14.Spain, when he was three points clear but with seven races are

:14:15. > :14:18.mining and double points at the final event in Abu Dhabi, anything

:14:19. > :14:23.is possible. Daniel Ricciardo is not to be discounted, sitting pretty in

:14:24. > :14:26.third. Red Bull are playing catch up on the constructors table and have a

:14:27. > :14:31.long way to go to get anywhere close to Mercedes, who totally control the

:14:32. > :14:34.championship. Third spot is hotly contested, Ferrari currently leading

:14:35. > :14:36.Williams by ten points as Claire said but that could change here at

:14:37. > :14:58.Monza today. MUSIC: "The Self-Preservation

:14:59. > :15:10.Society". Fernando Alonso, of course, and you

:15:11. > :15:13.can't come to Monza without looking and thinking about Ferrari. The

:15:14. > :15:17.tifosi are here in force, the bubbly not going to get what they would

:15:18. > :15:21.like to, today but it is so passionate with the fans. The thing

:15:22. > :15:25.about it is, this is different to any other circuit and any other

:15:26. > :15:30.country. It is the team that has been embraced by the people. They

:15:31. > :15:34.have not had a world champion for more than 50 years. That is

:15:35. > :15:36.ridiculous, when you think about that, yet they have had

:15:37. > :15:42.Constructors' Championships and that is what brings the people, Ferrari,

:15:43. > :15:47.Ferrari, Ferrari. That is the draw and the magnetism may have. There

:15:48. > :15:51.was a lot of kerfuffle yesterday when the President, Luca di

:15:52. > :15:54.Montezemolo, turned up amid all the rumours that perhaps he was going to

:15:55. > :15:58.announce that he was going to retire. He did everything you would

:15:59. > :16:02.expect in to do, talking to the fans, shouting across the pit lane,

:16:03. > :16:07.and here, we can see him with Fernando Alonso. What do you make of

:16:08. > :16:11.that? He does not design a car or drive the car. I don't want to

:16:12. > :16:17.undermine the importance of Luca di Montezemolo, he was there, implored

:16:18. > :16:21.by Enzo Ferrari, oversaw them coming to a dominant period, where he won

:16:22. > :16:24.multiple World Championships with Michael Schumacher as a driver. He

:16:25. > :16:28.has got to headhunt the right people. He has got the right driver

:16:29. > :16:31.but how have they not quite managed to get the other people in place

:16:32. > :16:36.since Ross Brawn and people like that dropped away? Eddie would maybe

:16:37. > :16:40.have a slightly different view on this but I think it is almost like a

:16:41. > :16:45.circus surrounding him, which does not seem to play any part in the

:16:46. > :16:49.discipline structure of trying to win grands prix. That is the

:16:50. > :16:51.impressive distraction, just concentrate on getting winning

:16:52. > :16:57.designers, good engineers and the rest will follow, with good drivers.

:16:58. > :17:04.He announced he was not going to retire, so what are your thoughts?

:17:05. > :17:08.He needs to get his team in order. The way we are talking, there is no

:17:09. > :17:11.real responsibility on him but there is absolutely total responsibility

:17:12. > :17:14.on him. He is the president, responsible for bringing to this

:17:15. > :17:20.team, Ferrari, the great name, the best people. He has failed to do

:17:21. > :17:24.that. Ferrari have one here 18 times in the past, a record. We have some

:17:25. > :17:28.beautiful pictures for you. This was 50 years ago when John Surtees won

:17:29. > :17:33.the championship. This is him winning in Monza. Beautiful images.

:17:34. > :17:40.He raced against the likes of Jim Clark, Jack Brabham, and that is

:17:41. > :17:45.Graham Hill on the grid, there. Not a good day for him, he did not get

:17:46. > :17:48.away. John Surtees had success, and a winner in Italy is with going to

:17:49. > :17:53.go down well with the Italian fans and he's in the paddock today. Just

:17:54. > :17:57.ten races in those days and it was very different. It was, and it is

:17:58. > :18:01.nice to see Graham Hill on the front row of the grid, and they ran either

:18:02. > :18:05.side of him. I would not want to see that here today. Back to John

:18:06. > :18:09.Surtees, a legend in my book and in most people's. Anyone who can drive

:18:10. > :18:13.and have the passion of driving, not just winning the championship with

:18:14. > :18:19.Ferrari but doing it with an Italian motorbike as well, absolute legend.

:18:20. > :18:22.Completely. It does not look of the -- look as though Fernando Alonso's

:18:23. > :18:25.podium from last year will be repeated with the top teams being so

:18:26. > :18:28.strong this weekend but arguably the strongest man on the grid yesterday

:18:29. > :18:35.was Lewis Hamilton. Let's hear from him now.

:18:36. > :18:42.Lewis Hamilton has taken pole position! This must be the happiest

:18:43. > :18:46.Saturday night at a racetrack you have had for a very long time. Since

:18:47. > :18:52.Spain, this is the first clean Saturday you have had, since May. It

:18:53. > :18:55.is a long time, isn't it? It has been a nice Saturday. I have really

:18:56. > :18:58.and join it has been a nice Saturday. I have really and toilet.

:18:59. > :19:01.To have the whole of P-3 and get through qualifying, and get -- I

:19:02. > :19:06.have really enjoyed it. To have the whole of P-3 and get through

:19:07. > :19:10.qualifying, and finish on publishing is very satisfying. You look more

:19:11. > :19:18.relaxed than I have seen you for a while. What is it down to? Age?

:19:19. > :19:21.Experience? I hope it is not age but through all those experiences, for

:19:22. > :19:27.sure, I am maturing and I will continue to make mistakes, do and

:19:28. > :19:30.say the wrong things, sometimes but I will continue to grow through

:19:31. > :19:35.those experiences. This year with all the pressure and everything that

:19:36. > :19:41.has gone on, I have learned to recover from things a bit quicker,

:19:42. > :19:44.and bounce back. You have been hugely supported and you have said

:19:45. > :19:47.all the right things publicly. How big conversation was that after Spa

:19:48. > :19:53.between you and the team and yourself and Nico? It was not really

:19:54. > :19:56.that big, to be honest. That week, I was with some friends and came to

:19:57. > :20:00.Italy and I got the message that day, as I got there, that I had to

:20:01. > :20:05.fly to England the next day. I was asking if we could do it on Skype

:20:06. > :20:10.but I was needed that. I got to the meeting and initially, it was just

:20:11. > :20:13.me and Paddy and Toto, and it was no different to the meetings we have

:20:14. > :20:18.here. It was worry relaxed, generally. Of course, it was a

:20:19. > :20:22.serious thing. -- very relaxed. Then we had a bigger meeting but it was

:20:23. > :20:27.relaxed again and the end result was they left it to us to race. I said,

:20:28. > :20:33."you brought me all the way here to tell me that? I could be chilling,

:20:34. > :20:36.sipping a Pina colada! " It was quite relaxed but of course it was a

:20:37. > :20:41.serious issue. Ultimately, the team has the potential to be one of the

:20:42. > :20:45.most accessible teams, and the decisions and the things we do

:20:46. > :20:48.moving forward reflect on the team. In terms of the trust you have with

:20:49. > :20:51.Mercedes, have you always felt their support? Has there been a moment

:20:52. > :20:55.this season when you doubted that the team were backing you? I have

:20:56. > :21:02.never felt that the team has not backed me. I felt, I'm sure, back in

:21:03. > :21:05.Monaco, a bit weird, like it was only me that saw it a certain way,

:21:06. > :21:09.and everyone else saw it a different way but it was OK, we moved on.

:21:10. > :21:15.Generally, the team has been fantastic. I have no felt so good in

:21:16. > :21:18.a team. You mentioned Monaco and the stewards did not see a problem with

:21:19. > :21:25.what happened there, or inspire. Do you see a problem with what happened

:21:26. > :21:28.there? Have you forgiven Nico for these situations? It is not a case

:21:29. > :21:31.of forgiveness. It is in the past and there is no point running on

:21:32. > :21:37.these things. I can't go back and change it. All I can do is shape the

:21:38. > :21:41.future. Do you trust him going forward? It is not really a question

:21:42. > :21:44.of that. On the track, you have to have respect and hope that the guys

:21:45. > :21:50.around you respect you enough to not crashing to you or cause you any

:21:51. > :21:54.trouble. -- crash into you. I have had incident in the past and I can't

:21:55. > :21:57.go into the next race wondering what happens if it happens again. You

:21:58. > :22:04.have to think it will not happen again. In terms of this season, it

:22:05. > :22:09.was evident pretty quickly that it was going to be Lewis Hamilton

:22:10. > :22:13.against Nico Rosberg. In terms of being on the track, in terms of

:22:14. > :22:17.racing drivers, who is stronger? That is for you and the fans to

:22:18. > :22:22.decide. It does not matter what I think. I do my talking on the track.

:22:23. > :22:27.That is what my dad has a ways told me to do. That is our motto, do your

:22:28. > :22:30.talking on the track. If we ask you the same question about who is

:22:31. > :22:35.mentally stronger, presumably you would give a similar answer. Nico

:22:36. > :22:40.Israel strong mentally. Yes, and we think of you as being more

:22:41. > :22:44.emotional, maybe. I don't know. I hope I have learned to handle not

:22:45. > :22:48.too badly the things that have gone. 30 points behind, I feel like we can

:22:49. > :22:53.still win, we can still do this and hopefully I can show some of that

:22:54. > :22:59.strength. In terms of winning the championship, what do you think it

:23:00. > :23:03.will come down to ultimately? I would say two things, reliability,

:23:04. > :23:08.which has been my biggest issue this year. And mental strength, yes,

:23:09. > :23:14.every weekend, I have to do what I did today, from now on. And every

:23:15. > :23:21.weekend, I have to do what I hope while can do tomorrow. Lewis

:23:22. > :23:25.Hamilton, there, talking to us. A couple of moments ago, this was

:23:26. > :23:29.Lewis, going out in the garage just behind us, onto the track, getting

:23:30. > :23:36.ready for the Italian Grand Prix. I have to say, David, in that

:23:37. > :23:36.interview, you looked cool, calm and collected.

:23:37. > :23:42.interview, you looked cool, calm and man, if you go back to a year ago.

:23:43. > :23:44.And also, as the season has unfolded, the more it has looked

:23:45. > :23:50.like things were stacked up against him, the more he is looking like he

:23:51. > :23:53.has in a calm, inner peace. I believe he can only keep doing what

:23:54. > :23:56.he's doing, all of the things you would tell your kids come all of the

:23:57. > :24:00.things you would expect motivational books to be telling you. But he

:24:01. > :24:04.really since that for the first time, he believes in it. -- you

:24:05. > :24:08.really sense. I think time, he believes in it. -- you

:24:09. > :24:12.knowledge as well. Psychologically, Nico has the edge and he tried to go

:24:13. > :24:16.wheel-to-wheel with him and Spa, doing what Lewis has done to him

:24:17. > :24:19.early in the and he has been chastised and the public reacted to

:24:20. > :24:24.it negatively. Therefore he knows pretty much in his mind now, every

:24:25. > :24:28.time it is wheel-to-wheel, he has Nico beaten. Nico has to play to his

:24:29. > :24:31.strengths, a gate run of pole positions up to this weekend and

:24:32. > :24:35.consistency in the races but psychologically, he knows he is the

:24:36. > :24:38.better racer. It was interesting and it is quite interesting to say he is

:24:39. > :24:42.faster and Nico is mentally it is quite interesting to say he is

:24:43. > :24:45.which has been said all season. He was right when he said he could go

:24:46. > :24:47.which has been said all season. He back after a bad day and come back

:24:48. > :24:52.with a clean slate and that is what he has done. We

:24:53. > :24:54.with a clean slate and that is what point, I think. He was so able to

:24:55. > :25:00.regain confidence, coming back. In point, I think. He was so able to

:25:01. > :25:04.Nigel Mansell, what he used to say about the power of the people. We

:25:05. > :25:08.have touched on it before. I'm not sure it made me feel like I could go

:25:09. > :25:14.any faster but you get the sense it gives him energy. It certainly does.

:25:15. > :25:15.Jenson Button going out there. Tom Clarke, our pit lane reporter, can

:25:16. > :25:16.join us with some of Clarke, our pit lane reporter, can

:25:17. > :25:22.news. Anything we need to know? Clarke, our pit lane reporter, can

:25:23. > :25:24.good news is, my microphone is working. Do you know what? We have

:25:25. > :25:28.had all working. Do you know what? We have

:25:29. > :25:33.weekend with the reliability. On Friday, Hamilton lost a session. On

:25:34. > :25:37.Saturday, Rosberg lost a session. Prior to qualifying as today, Romain

:25:38. > :25:41.Grosjean's car was in bits. At the moment, as they had out, all the

:25:42. > :25:43.cars are complete and it is quite quiet. Also a problem

:25:44. > :25:50.cars are complete and it is quite Lewis Hamilton's car in Q2. Yes, and

:25:51. > :25:56.as he went out there, probably huge sighs of relief because as they were

:25:57. > :26:02.trying to fire the car it would not start. He was smiling about it after

:26:03. > :26:04.the session yesterday but they had to nervous moments. From a driver's

:26:05. > :26:07.perspective, it must be terrifying, being in the situation where it

:26:08. > :26:11.might not fire up. They have had a problem with that twice this

:26:12. > :26:14.weekend. You never want any cups with your preparation, getting the

:26:15. > :26:18.Kara on track but you have to have such trust in your team. It is an

:26:19. > :26:23.environment of everyone getting on and doing their jobs. Even if there

:26:24. > :26:26.is an issue, you get over it because you are working on a situation as

:26:27. > :26:30.fast as you can and if the time doesn't allow, there you go, that is

:26:31. > :26:33.motor racing. This is not the first time in anyone's racing career that

:26:34. > :26:35.they have had issues with reliability but I think it is going

:26:36. > :26:38.to be something we talk about more as we enter the flyaway races

:26:39. > :26:46.because the engines are getting up in milage. We have had the Daniil

:26:47. > :26:50.Kvyat and Toro Rosso take the first engine penalty this weekend and Red

:26:51. > :26:53.Bull are expecting to get one later in the year. Mercedes have had

:26:54. > :26:57.hiccups in free practice but largely they have been pretty strong in the

:26:58. > :27:00.races. It is going to be an issue and it is something we will be

:27:01. > :27:06.talking about more as the season goes on. Usually, a 1-stop strategy

:27:07. > :27:10.being mooted but any ideas anyone will do any different? That is not

:27:11. > :27:15.the word I'm getting, the difference in time between 1-stop and to stop

:27:16. > :27:18.this afternoon is 12 seconds. If it is two or three seconds, the teams

:27:19. > :27:21.think of doing something different but this afternoon, it is such a

:27:22. > :27:26.massive difference, 12 seconds, that they are going to do stop. The

:27:27. > :27:32.reason is the consistency of the tyre and also the long pit lane.

:27:33. > :27:37.Thanks, Tom. Let's go onto the grid and find Eddie Jordan. What a

:27:38. > :27:41.fantastic flurry of activity. We have got Kevin Magnussen. What a

:27:42. > :27:45.great qualifying yesterday, I know you had a lot of problems in

:27:46. > :27:51.practice three, but you dragged it up onto fifth in the grid. The car

:27:52. > :27:57.felt really good in all qualifying. I had some problems with my breaks

:27:58. > :28:01.in practice. It took my confidence away on the brakes a little bit. In

:28:02. > :28:05.qualifying, it worked really well. The car was well balanced. I was

:28:06. > :28:09.able to gain the confidence back and push. And can you match these guys

:28:10. > :28:13.in front of you on the long run, push hard for the race?

:28:14. > :28:17.Realistically not but we are in Monza and it is a tight first

:28:18. > :28:24.corner. Fingers crossed that we have luck with us today. Anyway, we will

:28:25. > :28:28.do what we can. It is the early thing we can do. Added pressure that

:28:29. > :28:35.your crown princes here to see what you can do? No, it is his first time

:28:36. > :28:40.and he will be happy no matter what. We are going to have a little look

:28:41. > :28:46.around the place. You can see what is happening here. You can see, the

:28:47. > :28:52.people in the grandstand are so fanatical about what happens here in

:28:53. > :28:58.Monza. As we have already said, this is one of the four circuits that I

:28:59. > :29:01.believe must be retained. We are probably going to have another

:29:02. > :29:09.little look around to see what is available. But in the meantime,...

:29:10. > :29:15.It is hard to describe, what we did with David yesterday and Suzi, all

:29:16. > :29:18.the different tracks within the track and how difficult it is, and

:29:19. > :29:21.the parameters that we are probably go to try to get involved in a bit

:29:22. > :30:14.of a melee here, and we will see what will happen.

:30:15. > :30:18.Disguise the four-time world champion. But we have lost out to

:30:19. > :30:23.Rubens Barrichello. I think that was prearranged. We just want to see who

:30:24. > :30:31.else is around. The place, as you can imagine, is becoming... I have

:30:32. > :30:35.got the man, the man who won and he may even talk to us as we go

:30:36. > :30:42.outside, Daniel, can you repeat the heroics of the last race? Is it a

:30:43. > :30:45.task too far? I would love to. If I am going to be realistic, it will

:30:46. > :30:49.probably need a bit more of AmeriCorps around here. We will see

:30:50. > :30:53.how we go. The aim is to get into the top five and see what happens.

:30:54. > :31:00.You believe in miracles, don't you? You are an Aussie. Wish you well,

:31:01. > :31:03.fantastic one -- young boy, one of the great revelations, himself an

:31:04. > :31:06.Kevin Magnussen have been the stars of the season so far, I think.

:31:07. > :31:09.Kevin Magnussen have been the stars are going to make our way up. We

:31:10. > :31:21.have Jenson Button. He has probably gone to the... He's not there. Let's

:31:22. > :31:29.have a look around at the excitement. What we probably need to

:31:30. > :31:33.do is look at what is going on here. I think this is the car that

:31:34. > :31:38.Mercedes are worried about most, the Williams car. It has been redesigned

:31:39. > :31:49.or put together by Pat Symonds. He himself has a total of seven World

:31:50. > :31:57.Championships. Let this not be a surprise that this car is absolutely

:31:58. > :32:00.so fast. When DRS happens, these cars could be pushing Mercedes. That

:32:01. > :32:08.is what a lot of people would like to see. We are going to see if we

:32:09. > :32:12.can find the man who has just renewed his contract. I'd asked

:32:13. > :32:17.about grabbed him, Felipe Massa, fantastic news, another season with

:32:18. > :32:20.this great team. Fantastic news so I hope we can finish the championship

:32:21. > :32:24.well and prepare the next one. What are you going to do against these

:32:25. > :32:28.guys? We know you are fast in a straight line so will you push them?

:32:29. > :32:32.We will try to do the best we can. This could be a real surprise. We

:32:33. > :32:41.have not seen much of this in recent races. Mercedes coming out publicly,

:32:42. > :32:46.and saying that they have to worry about Williams. They have

:32:47. > :32:52.unbelievable straight-line speed. Let's have a word with the two guys

:32:53. > :32:56.who are actually in the ascendancy. They have locked out the front row.

:32:57. > :33:00.We know they have had their spats. Personally, I think that has gone to

:33:01. > :33:09.the moment. I think these drivers will look after each other. Rosberg

:33:10. > :33:18.is there. I am just going to see if we could get a second with him. He

:33:19. > :33:21.is just leaving, unfortunately. We will just hang fire, let him go off

:33:22. > :33:25.and do what he needs to do. Let's come to the front of the grid, here,

:33:26. > :33:31.and see where Lewis Hamilton's car is.

:33:32. > :33:40.And by the way, Lee has managed to talk to Nico Hulkenberg. Let's hear

:33:41. > :33:45.from them. A tougher day than you hoped for yesterday. What can you do

:33:46. > :33:49.today? I'm not sure. The target is to go forward and make up some

:33:50. > :33:54.ground. We have some fast cars ahead as well and we need to see how good

:33:55. > :33:59.the race pace is. Strategy is tight, one stop for everyone? Yes, not much

:34:00. > :34:05.begs abilities and hopefully it will be enough. I have just got here in

:34:06. > :34:11.the nick of time, our host broadcaster here. Nicky Lauber, you

:34:12. > :34:15.have been busy in the last couple of weeks. Tell us what you had to do to

:34:16. > :34:19.sort out this mess. The mess is sorted out, to answer your question

:34:20. > :34:21.straight away. We had a good drivers meeting this morning and the

:34:22. > :34:26.messages are a simple, race against each other but use your heads. This

:34:27. > :34:34.is what they have got to do today. I am relaxed. We will race like

:34:35. > :34:39.before. Williams is a big threat to the Mercedes cars. We will fight

:34:40. > :34:43.them and then they can fight amongst themselves and hopefully a one-two

:34:44. > :34:47.is what we can achieve. I am sure, as you rightly said, that there will

:34:48. > :34:50.not be Teemu Pukki -- team orders but they have to respect each other.

:34:51. > :34:56.What happened in Spa cannot happen again. Were you very tough on them?

:34:57. > :35:00.Nothing has changed. These things cannot happen. You must race, take

:35:01. > :35:01.decisions and use your brains, don't crash again. They are both aware of

:35:02. > :35:13.this and they will not crash. We appreciate your forthrightness.

:35:14. > :35:18.Toto Wolff, again, Lee has captured him, let's hear from them. We always

:35:19. > :35:22.ask the driver is how they are feeling, how are your nerves just

:35:23. > :35:24.before the start of this race? They are OK. Always a bit more tense

:35:25. > :35:27.before the start of the race, are OK. Always a bit more tense

:35:28. > :35:31.especially when we did not have a good race before but they should be

:35:32. > :35:39.OK. Any special instructions given to your boys this morning? Don't hit

:35:40. > :35:42.each other. They know that. Yes. Any extra conversation about it? Yes,

:35:43. > :35:44.Williams had good extra conversation about it? Yes,

:35:45. > :35:48.careful, build a bit of a gap at extra conversation about it? Yes,

:35:49. > :35:54.beginning. Take it easy and see how the race panned out. The first one

:35:55. > :35:59.into Turn 1, does he get any kind of advantage? -- race panned out. This

:36:00. > :36:06.is the advice we have given them. But once the race starts everything

:36:07. > :36:10.is different. Best of luck. We have just been speaking, Pat, what a

:36:11. > :36:14.wonderful job you did in your past life in all of those seven

:36:15. > :36:18.championships you won. Can you bring this team, Williams, back to its

:36:19. > :36:22.former self and make sure they win a championship? Have you got the

:36:23. > :36:27.firepower and the muscle and budget in the team to be able to make this

:36:28. > :36:31.team great again? The operative word is team, no, I can't do it myself.

:36:32. > :36:35.As a team, we have everything we need to get there. It is a great

:36:36. > :36:43.team, lovely to see them coming back to the front. A bit further to go.

:36:44. > :36:47.You have renewed your two drivers, that must give great continuity and

:36:48. > :36:51.satisfaction that you don't have to bed yourself in with new drivers,

:36:52. > :36:57.does that allow you to go away and does it next year's car? Next

:36:58. > :37:02.year's car is well underway with the basic decisions. -- and design. We

:37:03. > :37:08.continuity is worth an awful lot, absolutely. You have been the

:37:09. > :37:10.surprise package as far as teams are concerned this season, we are

:37:11. > :37:17.delighted, we wish you every success. We will walk back down the

:37:18. > :37:23.grid. To see who we can have a word with. Toto has already been on our

:37:24. > :37:30.list, we don't need to go down to see him. We will see if we can sort

:37:31. > :37:33.out other... The top man from CBC, mistook Donald MacKenzie, we are

:37:34. > :37:36.brushing by him -- Mr Donald McKenzie.

:37:37. > :37:46.Where is Stefano? He is back. I would love to see him. I don't know

:37:47. > :37:52.where he is. I don't know where he has gone. He has vanished. Stefan

:37:53. > :38:01.Dominica are lit, the boss of this team for such a long time. What is

:38:02. > :38:10.happening. The president is holding court. He has also is of dignitaries

:38:11. > :38:13.all around him. As we get down the grid, we are heading towards

:38:14. > :38:22.Ricciardo and Sebastian Vettel's car. We will see John Surtees. The

:38:23. > :38:28.man we just... Excuse me my daughter. Yes, I have met her

:38:29. > :38:34.before. We just saw a clip of you winning here, 50 years ago. Tell me

:38:35. > :38:39.about it, how exciting is that? Still the same excitement coming

:38:40. > :38:43.back here? Monza, of course. This is a bit different. But Monza always

:38:44. > :38:49.had a special excitement. Because the Italians create it. Particularly

:38:50. > :38:53.Ferrari. Ferrari is so much of motorsport. When you come to the

:38:54. > :39:02.home ground, there is a special buzz. I did two wheels and four

:39:03. > :39:06.wheels, very special. I made reference, before we came here, you

:39:07. > :39:10.are an absolute legend in my eyes and everybody else was my eyes,

:39:11. > :39:17.thank you for your time. We will hand back. We echo that. Let's join

:39:18. > :39:24.Alan, who has taken a closer look at the track. Monza is unlike any other

:39:25. > :39:30.circuit, 75% of the track is wide open throttle. If we take an

:39:31. > :39:36.in-depth look at it it is made up of four long straights. Each 1/200 over

:39:37. > :39:42.200 mph with a maximum speed of 220 mph -- each one is over. 100 metres

:39:43. > :39:47.every second. It is critical that you have a higher top speed but also

:39:48. > :39:53.a nice car with bands in the corners. That run from the start-up

:39:54. > :39:58.mine down to the Turn 1 is even more critical. Historically it has

:39:59. > :40:01.created a lot of excitement. This is 2013, two Red Bull zombie front

:40:02. > :40:09.line, both get off the line very well and get to the inside. No love

:40:10. > :40:13.lost, sounds similar to now. Already we have a situation with Sebastian

:40:14. > :40:16.Vettel locked up. Behind, Lewis Hamilton getting locked and into the

:40:17. > :40:22.back of the person ahead of him, losing his front wing and taking the

:40:23. > :40:25.escape road. Always action in the middle section. If you are in the

:40:26. > :40:30.front you have a chance but if you are in the middle, you have to be

:40:31. > :40:35.careful. 2012, two McLarens on the front row, they accelerate off the

:40:36. > :40:41.line, they get a good, clean run. Felipe Massa is the man on the

:40:42. > :40:47.charge. He dives down the outside, trying to get into the Turn 1 first.

:40:48. > :40:53.He is a hard charge and in a good position today, I expect to see more

:40:54. > :40:58.of him. -- hard charge. 2011, fantastic. Watch the person in

:40:59. > :41:02.fourth position on the grid, Fernando Alonso, clean start of

:41:03. > :41:08.getting down the inside of both of them -- start off. Two wheels on the

:41:09. > :41:15.grass, 175 mph, as he hits the breaks into Turn 1. Absolutely

:41:16. > :41:20.stunning start. Behind him already locking up on the grass, wiping out

:41:21. > :41:23.four or five cars in the midfield. Looking at this particular start

:41:24. > :41:27.from Alonso on board. Launching of the line is absolutely perfect.

:41:28. > :41:31.Ducking into the right-hand side, Lewis Hamilton getting crowded

:41:32. > :41:36.across. Grass coming across, dips two wheels onto it, hard on the

:41:37. > :41:40.brakes, stopped the car. Clean and tidy perfect start from fourth into

:41:41. > :41:42.first. He will definitely have to do that today, starting from seventh,

:41:43. > :41:51.if he will recover something for Ferrari. And four the Tifosi in the

:41:52. > :41:57.ground. -- and for. This is the best chance for Williams. They have to

:41:58. > :42:02.make it work at the start. The all-important start. It looked busy

:42:03. > :42:07.on the grid. Chaos, I didn't know where I was heading. Lee and Tom

:42:08. > :42:13.mine the pit lane. David and Ben are your commentators. -- are in. Speed,

:42:14. > :42:21.passion and history, it has to be Monza, the Italian Grand Prix.

:42:22. > :42:28.Each and every Grand Prix makes its own imprint. It revels in its own

:42:29. > :42:36.traditions. Each race has its own scent. The mask of motorsport. But

:42:37. > :42:46.nowhere is the person in quite like here. -- is the person you. This is

:42:47. > :42:52.the home of Italy, were never a pan can be boiled without an exquisite

:42:53. > :42:57.dish in mind. Cut into cloth or a leather, it is paid by the hand of

:42:58. > :43:10.elegance. -- it is made. Every stitch a tribute to style. If each

:43:11. > :43:13.race has its own soundtrack, this is Verdi.

:43:14. > :43:20.Here, every panel, not and bolt and pipe and pin is a little thing of

:43:21. > :43:25.beauty -- nut and bolt. The adoration of all things

:43:26. > :43:41.beautiful. This is an Italian love affair.

:43:42. > :43:58.Welcome to Monza, welcome to Formula One.

:43:59. > :44:05.COMMENTATOR: The final European race of the season brings us to the

:44:06. > :44:08.wooded parkland of the Royal Park in Monza to attract that has seen more

:44:09. > :44:10.world champ Richard Grant prix than any other and intense

:44:11. > :44:13.world champ Richard Grant prix than between many great champions. Around

:44:14. > :44:16.13 of the title race pictures Lewis Hamilton against Nico Rosberg in the

:44:17. > :44:22.country where they first met as teenagers -- pitches. In a country

:44:23. > :44:27.with passion for motorsport. Maranello is the home of Harare but

:44:28. > :44:30.fans of them have come on far and wide to enjoy a circuit which is

:44:31. > :44:34.fundamentally three straights interrupted. In qualifying, the

:44:35. > :44:38.speed track registered three for four kilometres an hour, two to two

:44:39. > :44:44.miles per hour, the government of covering a mile in just 16 seconds

:44:45. > :44:51.-- 222 miles. Those interop shins, the chicanes, the Variante Ascari,

:44:52. > :44:55.the Curva di Lesmo Bru and be Parabolica are tests in their own

:44:56. > :44:59.right -- Curva di Lesmos. Lewis Hamilton crushed his opposition to

:45:00. > :45:03.an pole position to kick-start the process of closing the 29 point gap

:45:04. > :45:06.to the front row start of Nico Rosberg. Last time they started on

:45:07. > :45:11.the front row the other way round clashed on the second lap. All eyes

:45:12. > :45:18.will be on their rivalry. If they slip up, the Williams team is best

:45:19. > :45:24.placed. RADIO: Overtake into Turn 3 only until we tell you. Hamilton

:45:25. > :45:28.starting from pole position. His third ever pole at Monza, one of

:45:29. > :45:31.those he converted into a victory that the only driver in the last

:45:32. > :45:35.seven years to have had a pole he and not converted it into a win.

:45:36. > :45:40.Fernando Alonso, we know how fast it can be off the line, two wins here

:45:41. > :45:43.before, he has always been on the podium of Harare -- it can be. As he

:45:44. > :45:47.said, this will be one of the toughest times in terms of getting

:45:48. > :45:48.onto the podium -- in on the podium here. Let's look at the great

:45:49. > :46:02.line-up. -- bread line-up. All Williams affair on the second

:46:03. > :46:07.row. Jensen starting six, he finished in sixth place at Spa.

:46:08. > :46:13.Three-time winning team-mate, Daniel Ricciardo starts in ninth place.

:46:14. > :46:25.A poor qualifying for Kimi Raikkonen.

:46:26. > :46:33.The first of the Lotus is Pastor Maldonado, out-qualifying his

:46:34. > :46:43.team-mate. Romain Grosjean did a good job for Keita room.

:46:44. > :46:49.Marcus Ericsson starts from the pit lane after a yellow flag

:46:50. > :46:53.infringement in practice yesterday. Everybody desperately waiting to see

:46:54. > :46:56.what will happen on this post, particularly at the opening lap

:46:57. > :46:59.between Hamilton and Rosberg. Williams are ready to pick up the

:47:00. > :47:04.pieces, perhaps. Valtteri Bottas starting in third place. It is the

:47:05. > :47:07.fifth time he started in the top three on the grid is yet, still up

:47:08. > :47:12.on Felipe Massa in terms of the qualifying performances. Nico

:47:13. > :47:16.Rosberg, first-ever front row start, he has never finished on the podium

:47:17. > :47:20.at Monza in the past. His team-mate, Lewis Hamilton has taken a victory

:47:21. > :47:25.in 2012. He would love to back that up with another victory here, one

:47:26. > :47:30.other podium when he finished second two Fernando Alonso, his team-mate,

:47:31. > :47:37.driving, Darren in 2007. -- driving for McCarron. We expect that to be

:47:38. > :47:40.very hard-fought contest -- for McLaren. Looking at the tyres, the

:47:41. > :47:43.majority starting on softer tyres but some people taking more of a

:47:44. > :47:51.gamble and going for the hard compound including Nico Hulkenberg,

:47:52. > :47:56.Esteban Gutierrez. Romain Grosjean, Daniil Kvyat and market Ericsson,

:47:57. > :47:59.starting from the pit lane. -- Marcus Ericsson. Ferrari fans in

:48:00. > :48:02.good voice at Monza as ever. They will cheer on this man in

:48:03. > :48:07.particular, Fernando Alonso starting from seventh position on the grid.

:48:08. > :48:10.He has scored points in every single Grand Prix this year, the only

:48:11. > :48:16.driver to have done that. Two victories here himself. Best result

:48:17. > :48:19.of second position couple of times this year. The tyre blankets are off

:48:20. > :48:25.on the two Mercedes on the front row. Hamilton engages his gears.

:48:26. > :48:28.Practised art is crucial in terms of the team getting some information

:48:29. > :48:32.that they can help the drivers with and the real start, this formation

:48:33. > :48:34.lap, just giving them all of those last bits of data and knowledge that

:48:35. > :48:54.they need to go into the Grand Prix. The formation lap begins here. Track

:48:55. > :48:59.conditions pretty much ideal, 44 degrees track damage, air temp to

:49:00. > :49:05.25, a very pleasant day in northern Italy. A perfect day to go racing.

:49:06. > :49:08.You can see the cars back from the yellow line which defines a marker

:49:09. > :49:11.for them to see in the cockpit, when they pull up into the grid slot,

:49:12. > :49:15.they do that so when they get a bit of wheel spin off the line, when

:49:16. > :49:18.they are doing the formation lap, they put some rubber on the tarmac

:49:19. > :49:22.which gives them a bit more grip when they pull away. We don't expect

:49:23. > :49:27.any big separation between the sides of the grid. As we saw Lewis

:49:28. > :49:30.Hamilton jump Nico Rosberg for pole position in Belgium and lead us into

:49:31. > :49:33.the controversy a couple of weeks ago, it is entirely possible it

:49:34. > :49:38.could happen again this afternoon. It is a long rant of the first

:49:39. > :49:41.corner. We know that at the second chicane, varies a huge run-off area

:49:42. > :49:45.and they can rejoin. In one of the support races this morning, the guy

:49:46. > :49:49.challenging for the lead did not manage to do it, went down the

:49:50. > :49:53.escape route and rejoined in third place. It opens up an opportunity to

:49:54. > :49:55.the drivers. You normally get a penalty by cutting the corner

:49:56. > :50:02.effectively but as long as you don't gain an advantage, the risk and

:50:03. > :50:05.reward might bring up opportunities, especially for the Williams drivers.

:50:06. > :50:08.If they want to win today, they have to be in front of the Mercedes at

:50:09. > :50:16.the end of the first lap. It has been a good day for British motor

:50:17. > :50:22.store -- motorsport today, with two victories in gigabits three and GPT.

:50:23. > :50:25.We still have the leader in the GB three championship as well. Can

:50:26. > :50:29.Lewis Hamilton emulate those efforts in the main event? We will find out.

:50:30. > :50:34.Any late news from Tom in the pit lane? I'm just watching Bernie

:50:35. > :50:37.Ecclestone and Toto Wolff having a chat, walking all the way down the

:50:38. > :50:45.pit lane together. They are hiding now. Just a quick word on strategy.

:50:46. > :50:49.We have six cars on hard times. Pros and cons to that, at the start of

:50:50. > :50:53.the race, they might be slower away from the grid and it is a long run

:50:54. > :50:57.to the first time, 630 metres but the pro is in the one pit stop, they

:50:58. > :51:02.will be blindingly quick when they put the medium tyre on in the middle

:51:03. > :51:07.of the race. As we say, Nico Hulkenberg, Adrian Sutil, Esteban

:51:08. > :51:11.Gutierrez, Grosjean, Daniil Kvyat and Magnus Eriksson other once you

:51:12. > :51:14.have decided to do that. Hamilton and Rosberg showing the front row of

:51:15. > :51:17.the grid, last time out it was the other way round but Lewis Hamilton

:51:18. > :51:21.may be better start from second place. The start is crucial. It has

:51:22. > :51:24.been pretty much even Stevens between them this year but let's see

:51:25. > :51:28.who gets off the line best. Williams right behind with the same Mercedes

:51:29. > :51:32.power unit, of course, so in theory, the same ability to get off

:51:33. > :51:36.the line. Behind them, two more Mercedes powered cars, the McLaren

:51:37. > :51:41.Broad, and then the Ferrari of Alonso and the first Renault powered

:51:42. > :51:44.car on the grid is Sebastian Vettel, starting in eighth. Some work to be

:51:45. > :51:48.done as we confirmed the line-up at the top end of the grid. Hamilton

:51:49. > :51:54.into position. No backing up this time. Perfectly positioned with his

:51:55. > :51:58.front left wheel absolutely on the yellow line. There is a proximity

:51:59. > :52:03.sensor in the tarmac, and one inside the chassis of the car. That is how

:52:04. > :52:07.Charlie Whiting knows that the cars are in position, the race director.

:52:08. > :52:12.It also indicate if a car starts to move before the lights go out. We

:52:13. > :52:15.have one car starting for the pit lane, the second caterer, Marcus

:52:16. > :52:18.Ericsson, who has to wait for everyone else to go past the pit

:52:19. > :52:23.exit before he can join in the fun and games. The last car just moving

:52:24. > :52:27.into place, which is at the moment Daniil Kvyat. We are set to go with

:52:28. > :52:32.the 65th Italian Grand Prix in the World Championship. Lights out and

:52:33. > :52:36.away we go. The battle between the Mercedes team-mate is on and Rosberg

:52:37. > :52:40.has made a great start! Hamilton is being swamped, passed by tee

:52:41. > :52:44.Williams, and the car on the outside as well. Valtteri Bottas, a McLaren

:52:45. > :52:48.coming through in second, Kevin Magnussen, into second place, as

:52:49. > :52:52.Nico Rosberg makes an absolutely meteoric getaway. There's a bit of

:52:53. > :52:57.action over the kerbs but they have gone through, Kevin Magnussen into

:52:58. > :53:02.second place is astonishing. Rosberg has gone away this time and Hamilton

:53:03. > :53:05.has got some work to do. He's in fourth place. It is going to be in

:53:06. > :53:08.fourth place. It is going to being credibly difficult for him to come

:53:09. > :53:11.back from that. Kevin Magnussen, it is going to be a mobile chicane,

:53:12. > :53:16.good straight-line speed but not as quick as the Mercedes or the

:53:17. > :53:19.Williams in front. Jenson Button keeping parents behind him and

:53:20. > :53:23.Alonso tried to go around the outside of the Mexican and gain

:53:24. > :53:27.ground. Nico Hulkenberg has had a good start, up to ninth, but Alonso

:53:28. > :53:32.in eighth, so he has not had the study would have liked. Behind him,

:53:33. > :53:37.Peretz and Hulkenberg. Valtteri Bottas has dropped down to 10th,

:53:38. > :53:41.really bad start. Felipe Massa is in third place as Alonso gains a

:53:42. > :53:45.position past Sergio Perez. That brings Alonso back into seventh

:53:46. > :53:49.place. Nico Rosberg leading the Grand Prix. It has been an ideal

:53:50. > :53:51.getaway for him on this occasion. And now Lewis Hamilton has work to

:53:52. > :53:56.do and it is not going to And now Lewis Hamilton has work to

:53:57. > :54:00.We know how fast the Williams is. He's got to go for it. The team

:54:01. > :54:09.reminded him that overtakes were available. RADIO: Copy that, we see

:54:10. > :54:12.it, talk, mode three. That indicates there is a problem. He has got to

:54:13. > :54:15.change a setting on the car. On board with Lewis Hamilton, things

:54:16. > :54:19.not going well for the British driver right now, as he comes into

:54:20. > :54:24.the first chicane. He has dropped from pole position to fourth. Quite

:54:25. > :54:27.a lot of changes on the opening lap. Nico Rosberg leading, Kevin

:54:28. > :54:30.Magnussen in second, Felipe Massa third, Hamilton fourth and Sebastian

:54:31. > :54:40.Vettel fifth, let's not forget he's had a good start, Jenson Button six,

:54:41. > :54:42.Alonso seventh, Peretz, Hulkenberg, Raikkonen is tense and then Valtteri

:54:43. > :54:45.Bottas, who started on the second row, is in 12th. We believe the

:54:46. > :54:49.message from those was to say that his energy recovery system is not

:54:50. > :54:50.working. That is going to affect him massively in terms of the

:54:51. > :54:54.working. That is going to affect him power available. It does not look

:54:55. > :54:56.like it. You would think he would be really struggling with straight-line

:54:57. > :55:03.speed that was the case but it might be part of the recovery phase. Kimi

:55:04. > :55:09.Raikkonen coming through. RADIO: The red lights are on. The lights are

:55:10. > :55:13.off, it looks like everything is in a muddle. Leave it for the minute.

:55:14. > :55:17.That is not good for Lewis Hamilton, nearing that. He has had so many

:55:18. > :55:21.reliability problems this year and Nico Rosberg is taking advantage at

:55:22. > :55:25.the moment. Kevin Magnussen holding on to second and Felipe Massa in

:55:26. > :55:30.third. Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel, Jenson Button, Alonso, Peretz,

:55:31. > :55:35.Hulkenberg, Valtteri Bottas still in 11th, in the fast Williams, and

:55:36. > :55:40.Daniel Ricciardo in 12th. The winner of the last two Grand Prix, way down

:55:41. > :55:43.the field as well. DRS is enabled and this should see some

:55:44. > :55:48.opportunities to enable overtakes but Felipe Massa cannot do anything

:55:49. > :55:52.about the McLaren of Kevin Magnussen just yet. And Hamilton is doing a

:55:53. > :55:56.great job if he's got an issue on the car, running 0.7 seconds slower

:55:57. > :56:01.than Rosberg. We know from the interview with Lee, he said

:56:02. > :56:04.reliability would decide the championship. If they have had a

:56:05. > :56:08.reliability issue of the line as the Williams tries to get in position,

:56:09. > :56:13.McLaren has to go defensive, and Hamilton, not seeming to get the

:56:14. > :56:18.reliability that Rosberg is seeing on race day. On board with Felipe

:56:19. > :56:22.Massa as he chases Kevin Magnussen. Kevin Magnussen had a strong race at

:56:23. > :56:28.Spa but in the end was penalised 20 seconds. RADIO: Felipe, DRS is

:56:29. > :56:33.enabled, use overtake if you need to. They know they have to clear the

:56:34. > :56:37.McLaren as quickly as possible, otherwise they are going to lose so

:56:38. > :56:39.much valuable time. We have got the comparisons of the on-board

:56:40. > :56:40.telemetry on screen right now to give you an

:56:41. > :56:42.telemetry on screen right now to speed, and where they are getting

:56:43. > :56:50.the power. Right now, Felipe speed, and where they are getting

:56:51. > :56:55.Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes, tucked in behind the Williams. He moves out to

:56:56. > :56:57.take his line into Parabolica, but Hamilton will have a bit of a draft

:56:58. > :57:02.and the use of DRS as Hamilton will have a bit of a draft

:57:03. > :57:05.the main street. Felipe Massa having to be defensive on the run down to

:57:06. > :57:12.Parabolica which has given Magnusson a bit of breathing space. The energy

:57:13. > :57:15.recovery system use of both the Williams and the McLaren is exactly

:57:16. > :57:21.the same, both using the Mercedes engines. They will be running to a

:57:22. > :57:25.predetermined strategy. The rest of the field coming through. It is more

:57:26. > :57:29.of a battle between the Toro Rosso of Daniil Kvyat and Esteban

:57:30. > :57:31.Gutierrez on the inside. Daniil Kvyat coming to come from the back

:57:32. > :57:33.because he had a ten place grid penalty for using the additional

:57:34. > :57:38.engine. Let's look at what happened penalty for using the additional

:57:39. > :57:39.at the start. We won't get the benefit of knowing exactly what went

:57:40. > :57:42.on when Hamilton released benefit of knowing exactly what went

:57:43. > :57:52.clutch, but it looked like he had benefit of knowing exactly what went

:57:53. > :57:55.talk of the line. -- no torque. Presumably Hamilton getting smarter

:57:56. > :57:58.was a result of the fact he was not getting full deployment of the

:57:59. > :58:04.energy available from the hybrid part of the car. He did a great job,

:58:05. > :58:08.there. You can see the red bulb deciding to cut the chicane. But

:58:09. > :58:18.Hamilton, -- Red Bull Racing. Let's listen. He got a bit of wheel spin

:58:19. > :58:22.but I would not say it was unacceptably high. It is a result of

:58:23. > :58:27.not getting the initial torque in the getaway. Leaving some space on

:58:28. > :58:32.the inside to make sure he does not get taken out. This is Daniel

:58:33. > :58:37.Ricciardo. It went wrong for at the chicane. He bombed massively as he

:58:38. > :58:41.dropped the clutch, did not seem to have any drive, a bit like Hamilton

:58:42. > :58:49.but a greater effect. Look what happens as they get the concertina

:58:50. > :58:53.effect. Massa trying to go around the outside but it isn't happening

:58:54. > :59:00.at. Lewis Hamilton will try to get past. We know McLaren is not as fast

:59:01. > :59:03.in race pastry as the two cars behind him. Definitely coming under

:59:04. > :59:07.more pressure. Massa comes to the outside for the next left-hander. He

:59:08. > :59:11.has done the move into the second chicane. Lewis Hamilton will try to

:59:12. > :59:18.line up the McLaren to get into third place. Magnussen has a good

:59:19. > :59:22.exit. He has got him. Hamilton into third position. Critical pass for

:59:23. > :59:25.Williams and Hamilton. A great example, Hamilton watching the

:59:26. > :59:29.manoeuvre happen upfront and even though he was not in position, he

:59:30. > :59:32.capitalised on the fact that Magnussen was busy trying to defend,

:59:33. > :59:36.running down the dirty side of the rundown of the second chicane. It

:59:37. > :59:41.affected his run at the second chicane great pass from Hamilton. On

:59:42. > :59:45.board with Kevin Magnussen, let's see how it developed. Felipe Massa

:59:46. > :59:49.getting in first. Straightforward out powered him. Hamilton staying on

:59:50. > :59:57.the clean side of the track. Nothing that Magnussen could do. One pass

:59:58. > :00:04.was Massa and then we saw, on board with Bottas. Trying to make the move

:00:05. > :00:08.an Hulkenberg, on the Force India. Bottas After the poor start. All of

:00:09. > :00:12.the drivers on the left-hand side got messed up by Hamilton's slow

:00:13. > :00:22.start, he was behind Hamilton. Bottas I think he will get the pass

:00:23. > :00:24.on Hamilton on Parabolica. On the brakes, he has the move completed.

:00:25. > :00:29.on Hamilton on Parabolica. On the Valtteri Bottas moves into 10th

:00:30. > :00:34.position. Williams versus Ferrari in the Constructors' Championship,

:00:35. > :00:39.Massa going well at the moment in second place for Williams. Raikkonen

:00:40. > :00:44.in ninth position currently. Each has one car doing reasonably well.

:00:45. > :00:53.Bottas We'll try to get up to Alonso. He is in 12th position. Very

:00:54. > :01:00.difficult start for man who has been such a star in the recent Grand

:01:01. > :01:04.Prix. To victory in Spa. Tucked in behind the Force India of Nico

:01:05. > :01:06.Hulkenberg. We know how quick that car can be in a straight line. The

:01:07. > :01:10.Renault powered Red Bull can struggle. This could be a tough

:01:11. > :01:16.afternoon for the Australian. Max Chilton has gone off. That is pretty

:01:17. > :01:19.well, only suffered one non-finish in Grand Prix racing in his year and

:01:20. > :01:24.a half, little bit more than a year and a half in the sport. It looks as

:01:25. > :01:31.though it is a second DNS. Exited the second chicane. Do you think it

:01:32. > :01:36.could be a dice with somebody? An unusual place, looks like he has

:01:37. > :01:41.driven straight into the gravel. Close with Romain Grosjean. Over the

:01:42. > :01:47.back of the curve. The car launched into the air. That is when he ended

:01:48. > :01:52.up going straight on. Huge sausage curves on the apex of the chicane

:01:53. > :01:58.is. He went over the back of it -- chicanes. He is winded according to

:01:59. > :02:05.the radio communication. That is the end of the race matched Max

:02:06. > :02:10.Chilton Kobayashi leading -- for Max Chilton. They are a bit behind

:02:11. > :02:14.Gutierrez but not far behind Gutierrez in the Sauber. Nico

:02:15. > :02:18.Rosberg leads the Italian Grand Prix. Felipe Massa, though, is that

:02:19. > :02:23.the fastest lap in second place in the Williams. Third is Hamilton

:02:24. > :02:30.tried to chase down the Williams. Fourth is Magnussen, dropping back

:02:31. > :02:33.after getting back away incredibly off the line. Kevin Magnussen in

:02:34. > :02:39.fourth, getting caught by Sebastian Vettel, Jenson Button and Ananda

:02:40. > :02:46.Alonso. Bottas Into the top ten. -- Fernando Alonso. Massa is starting

:02:47. > :02:51.to pull the gap into Rosberg. 8.8 seconds, taking another three tenths

:02:52. > :02:54.of a second out of Rosberg's lead. It might not be all over. It was

:02:55. > :02:59.looking like Rosberg was going to get a clean run away at the front.

:03:00. > :03:03.Seeing the end of this lap, they are continuing to bring down the gap.

:14:38. > :14:41.group, which has Magnusson at the caught. Their results rebut us, very

:14:42. > :14:44.much on terms with this group, still. The reason why running

:14:45. > :14:49.throttle and breaking together is an issue in the hybrid system is that

:14:50. > :14:52.you want to roll off the throttle, and use the motor generator unit to

:14:53. > :14:57.help charge the battery. You don't want to slow down the car initially

:14:58. > :15:00.with the brakes. Of course, you are burning fuel to overcome the fact

:15:01. > :15:04.you are running the brake pedal as well. It is a very inefficient way

:15:05. > :15:09.of driving the car. But with a left foot braking, sometimes coming you

:15:20. > :15:24.Nico Rosberg? Hang on, Valtteri Bottas is on Alonso and I think he's

:15:25. > :15:26.going to make the move easily. Look at the straight-line speed

:15:27. > :15:31.advantage, well ahead before they got anywhere near the first chicane.

:15:32. > :15:37.Valtteri Bottas goes back into seventh place. Back to Tom. That

:15:38. > :15:42.Mercedes power unit just proving how powerful it is. Qualifying was the

:15:43. > :15:46.first time since Argentina, 1980, that the same engine has had the top

:15:52. > :15:55.How is Lewis Hamilton going to get past Nico Rosberg? The DRS effect is

:15:56. > :16:00.actually less than on other tracks because they have less downforce.

:16:01. > :16:04.You won't get quite as much of April in the DRS zone. Will he go for the

:16:05. > :16:08.undercut? The teams are telling me they wanted to get a Lap 20, before

:16:09. > :16:12.they made a pit stop. They are nearing that mark. Does Lewis go for

:16:13. > :16:17.the undercut and then try to nurse the tyres to the end of the race?

:16:18. > :16:29.Right now, if I was in his position, I would continue to keep the

:16:30. > :16:31.pressure on Rosberg already made a mistake when the gap was over three

:16:32. > :16:34.seconds. They have both been managing the tyres, talking to the

:16:35. > :16:37.team but he can keep nipping away and bringing the gap down and he has

:16:38. > :16:40.done so away, to 1.4 seconds. He is getting very close to the point of

:16:41. > :16:45.being able to get a small advantage with the DRS. Rosberg cannot afford

:16:46. > :16:49.to take any risks. I would want to stay out there, even if my tyres

:16:50. > :16:51.were struggling a bit, if I was Hamilton, keep the pressure on

:16:52. > :16:56.Rosberg, don't let him get comfortable and see if you can force

:16:57. > :16:57.a mistake. Meanwhile, it will be harder for Valtteri Bottas to

:16:58. > :17:00.continue harder for Valtteri Bottas to

:17:01. > :17:04.same vein because he's up against another Mercedes powered car, Jenson

:17:05. > :17:11.Button in the McLaren. The pink crash helmet very clear, Jenson

:17:12. > :17:15.Button may be deciding to use that for the rest of the season. He is

:17:16. > :17:19.being chased by Valkyrie rebut us. It will be tougher and Valtteri

:17:20. > :17:23.Bottas may have to rethink where he overtakes unless he gets a really

:17:24. > :17:28.amazing slipstream and can use DRS. Sebastian Vettel, up ahead, stuck

:17:29. > :17:32.behind Kevin Magnussen. I think they have a car advantage. I don't think

:17:33. > :17:34.that Jenson Button will be able to do much about Valtteri Bottas, if he

:17:35. > :17:43.gets do much about Valtteri Bottas, if he

:17:44. > :17:46.a good drive off one of the turns. We saw what Felipe Massa was able to

:17:47. > :17:48.do an Kevin Magnussen. We know from the long runs on Friday that

:17:49. > :17:56.Williams were very consistent. Looking at the... Hamilton saving

:17:57. > :18:00.fuel but Valtteri Bottas is one of the best of all in terms of using

:18:01. > :18:04.less fuel per lap than some of his rivals. He has got a lot of slip

:18:05. > :18:09.streaming to help him. And also, while he's making his way through

:18:10. > :18:13.traffic, he is not optimising his lap time. Quite agree, when you lift

:18:14. > :18:17.off early, brake and generally run at the pace of the cars around you,

:18:18. > :18:20.look at the pace at which he is coming into the slipstream.

:18:21. > :18:24.look at the pace at which he is Bottas, going for it and passing the

:18:25. > :18:27.McLaren, making it look very easy. That was a combination of speed out

:18:28. > :18:30.of the corner, now through the Parabolica, as well as the

:18:31. > :18:33.horsepower but there is no horsepower difference in the cars

:18:34. > :18:37.although there is in terms of the amount of drag. Well, we presume

:18:38. > :18:40.there is amount of drag. Well, we presume

:18:41. > :18:46.Lewis, it looks like you are picking up the toe, slower in the corners,

:18:47. > :18:53.faster on the straights. Thanks but that, a bit more insight. -- for

:18:54. > :18:56.that. He will start to lose downforce and Valtteri Bottas will

:18:57. > :19:00.pick up the slipstream. McLaren, punching a hole in the air, and

:19:01. > :19:03.fairly straightforward in the end. The reason I say we presume they

:19:04. > :19:08.have the same horsepower is because they both have Mercedes engines but

:19:09. > :19:13.we don't know... I think we have seen that broken board on the top

:19:14. > :19:17.edge, we have seen that in a Lotus, it has just become detached from the

:19:18. > :19:21.service, having been bolted into place. I would not have thought a

:19:22. > :19:26.small pot like that has a big aerodynamic effect. Hamilton has got

:19:27. > :19:30.the gap down to 1.2 seconds, taking two tents in the middle sector alone

:19:31. > :19:35.on this lap. It is 1.3 across the line, in fact, still not quite in

:19:36. > :19:38.the DRS zone. He is getting the dirty air which helps you on the

:19:39. > :19:41.straights but it does not affect you too much in the lower speed corners,

:19:42. > :19:45.like the Lesmo and the Ascari too much in the lower speed corners,

:19:46. > :19:48.chicane. The turbulent air does not present itself to your wings as

:19:49. > :19:56.neatly and then you don't get the efficiency and downforce. Where is

:19:57. > :20:00.Sebastian Vettel? In the pits. And earlier pit stop than we were

:20:01. > :20:01.perhaps expecting. It is just about in the pit window but this gives

:20:02. > :20:06.them a long way to go on in the pit window but this gives

:20:07. > :20:11.compound tyre. We are expecting just one pit stop per car. I expect they

:20:12. > :20:14.have seen a gap in the traffic and they can drop in behind Daniil

:20:15. > :20:18.Kvyat, in front of Adrian Sutil, who is just crossing the start finish

:20:19. > :20:23.line. They obviously feel that he will be able to run in clean air,

:20:24. > :20:31.optimises lap times, and hopefully get an advantage by the time the

:20:32. > :20:35.cars that are battling away in front make a stop. Locking it all the way

:20:36. > :20:37.up. He was speeding as he crossed the line. It is an average of your

:20:38. > :20:40.speed as you go through the pit lane. If you speed across the line,

:20:41. > :20:44.you just under speed the car for a period of time, do a quick mental

:20:45. > :20:50.calculation and then accelerate again. RADIO: Let us know how the

:20:51. > :20:54.tyres are on the HBP switch. Copy that, all cars are getting

:20:55. > :20:58.degradation like yourself. He can tell them through a setting on the

:20:59. > :21:04.steering wheel. HBP, the happy switch. I don't know the numbers

:21:05. > :21:09.Mercedes use but it does not matter. Number one means they are happy with

:21:10. > :21:14.the car, and number five is like, "I need to stop now". The information

:21:15. > :21:19.just comes up on the telemetry. Instead of them having to give radio

:21:20. > :21:23.messages, and give the game away, because the engineers have just told

:21:24. > :21:28.us what he is thinking. We have had the first pit stop and now we have a

:21:29. > :21:31.second, Sergio Perez has just come into the pit Sydney Force India.

:21:32. > :21:35.Don't forget, some drivers started on the hard tyres and that is where

:21:36. > :21:38.this make make -- may make a difference. The likes of Nico

:21:39. > :21:48.Hulkenberg will stay out there, gaining a place as his team-mate

:21:49. > :21:50.makes the stop. But he is, currently. Kevin Magnussen coming

:21:51. > :21:52.under increasing pressure from Valtteri Bottas, who had his way

:21:53. > :21:56.cleared as Sebastian Vettel came in and that put him -- has put him

:21:57. > :22:00.against the McLaren. Valtteri Bottas is in fifth and Kevin Magnussen in

:22:01. > :22:03.fourth. It is a dream comeback from him. I don't know what happened at

:22:04. > :22:07.the start of the race that he found himself down, out of position but he

:22:08. > :22:11.was able to be a smart racer. You could argue that he has the faster

:22:12. > :22:15.car but he wants to keep out of trouble and get in position. He has

:22:16. > :22:20.been systematically picking off other cars. Kevin Magnussen next, to

:22:21. > :22:26.get into fourth place. Never any sign that Valtteri Bottas panics or

:22:27. > :22:29.gets overemotional about anything. He is completely calm and focused on

:22:30. > :22:33.the job in hand. Even though he lost the places at the beginning, he has

:22:34. > :22:38.stuck to the task. I don't want to stereotype but the Finnish drivers

:22:39. > :22:45.of the past, like Kimi Raikkonen, have a tendency to be able to appear

:22:46. > :22:48.quite cold in some aspects. Not in terms of personality but in terms of

:22:49. > :22:52.controlling their emotions. If you are asking the question, you would

:22:53. > :22:55.not be flustered into giving you a knee jerk reaction. He is having a

:22:56. > :22:58.go down the outside of Kevin Magnussen and he has completed the

:22:59. > :23:02.move, on the brakes, and Valtteri Bottas has recovered to fourth

:23:03. > :23:07.position after a dreadful start. Meanwhile, Kimi Raikkonen makes a

:23:08. > :23:11.pit stop. Just inside the top ten. Has not made a lot of progress and

:23:12. > :23:15.maybe Ferrari are counting of it on an earlier stop for him than some of

:23:16. > :23:18.his rivals, to give him an opportunity to score some points at

:23:19. > :23:24.the end of the race. He is in the points but can he stay there towards

:23:25. > :23:27.the end? We will wait and see. The earlier you stop, the more likely

:23:28. > :23:33.you are to be in trouble with tyres later. He did what Sebastian Vettel

:23:34. > :23:37.did, pretty much. They are arriving at about 170 BH. It is one of the

:23:38. > :23:40.more difficult pit lane entrances. You can see how far back he picks up

:23:41. > :23:46.the slipstream of the McLaren, Valtteri Bottas. You can see that

:23:47. > :23:49.Williams is particularly slippery in a straight line and Kevin Magnussen

:23:50. > :23:53.could not do anything in the end. Hamilton and Rosberg trading lap

:23:54. > :23:55.times, Hamilton gaining in the first sector but losing a bit in the

:23:56. > :24:02.middle sector and then Rosberg has gone purple in the last sector. The

:24:03. > :24:05.gap opened up slightly, 1.4 seconds. Rosberg has not literally gone

:24:06. > :24:10.purple but his times have come up on our timing screen as purple, the

:24:11. > :24:16.fastest so far. He is not really, really angry but just really quick

:24:17. > :24:19.in the last sector. I think there will be a pit stop for Alonso soon,

:24:20. > :24:23.and so does Kevin Magnussen go into the pit lane. This is interesting

:24:24. > :24:28.because Alonso was behind Jenson Button and Kevin Magnussen has got

:24:29. > :24:33.first call on the stop for McLaren. They are having a small issue.

:24:34. > :24:38.Ferrari getting the job but both teams are so slick that they service

:24:39. > :24:41.the cars at the same time. One tenth slower, Alonso, according to the

:24:42. > :24:45.graphic but nothing to choose between them. It was that same

:24:46. > :24:49.situation when Magnusson held Alonso up the many laps and the Belgian

:24:50. > :24:53.Grand Prix. It ended poorly forgetting Magnus and in a way when

:24:54. > :25:01.he put Alonso on the grass and got a 22nd penalty himself. -- 20 seconds

:25:02. > :25:04.penalty. He has gained from the earlier stop by coming in a fraction

:25:05. > :25:09.early, getting ahead of Kevin Magnussen. And Alonso has found

:25:10. > :25:14.himself coming out behind the Toro Rosso, and has to get himself in a

:25:15. > :25:19.position to get back up there so he does not lose too much time.

:25:20. > :25:24.Perenise, trying to do something about Kevin Magnussen, as he gets up

:25:25. > :25:28.to speed. -- Sergio Perez. He has also made a stop, remember. You can

:25:29. > :25:30.see how the guys who made the earlier stop gained out of it but

:25:31. > :25:33.they may lose at the end of the earlier stop gained out of it but

:25:34. > :25:40.because their tyres will not be as strong. RADIO: Push hard, now, two

:25:41. > :25:48.more time lapse. Hamilton has gone fastest in the last sector. He will

:25:49. > :25:52.be aware of what Rosberg's strategies going to be. His race

:25:53. > :25:57.engineer will let him know. We have to presume the radio message was

:25:58. > :26:00.slightly delayed. Interesting, Hulkenberg has a ready been into the

:26:01. > :26:03.pits, having switched to the softer tyre. Jenson Button, making his

:26:04. > :26:07.stop. Where will he tyre. Jenson Button, making his

:26:08. > :26:12.the Sebastian Vettel, Kevin Magnussen, Sergio Perez and Alonso

:26:13. > :26:16.group? It is going to be close, on the left, Sebastian Vettel coming

:26:17. > :26:21.through. Just coming through under the trees, Sebastian Vettel. Kevin

:26:22. > :26:25.Magnussen through as well. And he has lost one to Sergio Perez. He

:26:26. > :26:28.stayed in front of Alonso but has lost a position to Sergio Perez in

:26:29. > :26:34.the Force India because he made the earlier stop. Should Hamilton stop

:26:35. > :26:39.before Rosberg? We did not think he could get an advantage out of the

:26:40. > :26:43.new tyres. I find it interesting that Hulkenberg went so early. It

:26:44. > :26:45.could be an alarm bell because you was on the harder tyre and they

:26:46. > :26:49.seemed to expect that he would go to the end of the race on it but

:26:50. > :26:52.somebody who tried it earlier had to stop relatively early, and it makes

:26:53. > :26:56.you wonder because he was on a full tank of fuel and would have got more

:26:57. > :26:59.load into the tyres but the life of the tyres now, however the drivers

:27:00. > :27:03.look after them, they want to get them to the end of the race but they

:27:04. > :27:10.have to think about how they do it. It gets easier as the race goes on.

:27:11. > :27:14.RADIO: Perfect, we have jumped Alonso and Jenson Button comedy on

:27:15. > :27:20.Kevin Magnussen's tale. Felipe Massa coming in third place. Now, can he

:27:21. > :27:24.Kevin Magnussen's tale. Felipe Massa get an untroubled pit stop? Looking

:27:25. > :27:29.good for Felipe Massa. He gets away. He is looking for his first podium

:27:30. > :27:33.finish of this season. He will be out well in front Sebastian Vettel.

:27:34. > :27:37.You can see Sebastian Vettel at the top of the screen in the group

:27:38. > :27:41.behind. Valtteri Bottas and Daniel Ricciardo have yet to stop and have

:27:42. > :27:45.gone through. Daniel Ricciardo has not made his pit stop yet, going

:27:46. > :27:50.through in front. We are still waiting for Mercedes to make their

:27:51. > :27:55.stop as well. RADIO: Strap mode four. It is how much time. Here we

:27:56. > :27:59.go, they are building up towards the pit stops, Mercedes. That means

:28:00. > :28:05.Hamilton will be pushing even harder now. Tom? I have had a sweep of the

:28:06. > :28:08.planet and have just been down to Williams to find out if our three

:28:09. > :28:13.but has had a problem at the start. He did not report a problem but we

:28:14. > :28:16.think he may have been held up by Hamilton's bad start which is why he

:28:17. > :28:21.dropped back to 11th but he has got a very strong race car, was the only

:28:22. > :28:25.bit of information they gave to me. Not a surprise because we saw him do

:28:26. > :28:30.28 laps on Friday afternoon when the track conditions were similar, and

:28:31. > :28:35.he did them all within 0.8 seconds of each other. He is looking very

:28:36. > :28:39.good. Rosberg is coming in from the lead in the Grand Prix and has had

:28:40. > :28:43.the advantage of the first of the two but Hamilton has really got to

:28:44. > :28:48.put in one of the laps of his life, in order to have the advantage when

:28:49. > :28:56.he comes in. 2.8 seconds, the stock, very good by Mercedes, not

:28:57. > :29:00.the fastest we have seen. -- stop. He has taken the maximum he can out

:29:01. > :29:04.of the tyres, the only thing he can do is allow it to run the full

:29:05. > :29:08.engine load per lap, he will not be able to overcome the two seconds

:29:09. > :29:11.deficit he had before the stop. Valtteri Bottas makes his top

:29:12. > :29:13.forwarding is, climbing back up through the order after the poor

:29:14. > :29:17.getaway. Slightly so stop for him, through the order after the poor

:29:18. > :29:23.three seconds in sixth place. Where will he come out with Vettel? On the

:29:24. > :29:27.outside, Kevin Magnussen trying to go around the outside of the

:29:28. > :29:31.Williams, giving him space and he has lost momentum. He could be in

:29:32. > :29:35.danger from Sergio Perez, moving to the outside. He has got past. The

:29:36. > :29:40.earliest from Force India is rewarding them. Having made up

:29:41. > :29:46.ground in the early stages, Bottas has got to do it all again. Just not

:29:47. > :29:52.quite quick enough after the stop. You have to keep inside the white

:29:53. > :29:56.line in the first corner. That allowed the momentum of Vettel and

:29:57. > :30:01.the likes. Incomes Lewis Hamilton. Where is he going to come out? Will

:30:02. > :30:06.Rosberg be in front or will Lewis Hamilton have the advantage crust of

:30:07. > :30:11.my -- in comes. A fairly good stock, 2.7, virtually the same. Rosberg is

:30:12. > :30:13.through the final turn of Parabolica. He will take momentum.

:30:14. > :30:17.He did not have enough on the Parabolica. He will take momentum.

:30:18. > :30:21.black. Rosberg purple in the middle sector. Rosberg still ahead. We

:30:22. > :30:27.still have a race on our hands, no doubt about it. Just coming up to

:30:28. > :30:34.the half distance mark. Lewis Hamilton in second. Both have made

:30:35. > :30:35.their one and only pit stop, should be, barring any problems. They will

:30:36. > :30:40.race to the flag for victory. Bottas be, barring any problems. They will

:30:41. > :30:41.Still trying to make up some ground, moving to the inside of Sergio

:30:42. > :30:46.Perez. The speed of the moving to the inside of Sergio

:30:47. > :30:48.the last corner and onto this moving to the inside of Sergio

:30:49. > :30:54.straight means his rivals have little chance to defend. He is down

:30:55. > :30:59.the inside of Paris, sensible. Nothing much he can do but he is

:31:00. > :31:03.still in front of the McLaren. Force India of McLaren fighting hard in

:31:04. > :31:06.the Constructors' Championship. Terrorism really bringing about

:31:07. > :31:10.staying in front of Button at this point -- Perez really thinking

:31:11. > :31:16.about. That has got to be his main target. Bottas Will now go after the

:31:17. > :31:27.next car in that group, which is Magnussen, I think. RADIO: We will

:31:28. > :31:30.need some fuel until the end. Hogies another of the terms that we have

:31:31. > :31:36.come across this year. Something like lift and post? Presumably they

:31:37. > :31:41.will have to save a bit of fuel. We did not think it would be very

:31:42. > :31:45.crucial on you, depends how much they put in in the first place.

:31:46. > :31:49.Daniel Ricciardo is currently third. He has not made a pit stop. Going

:31:50. > :31:55.much deeper into this race. Going much deeper. Strategies from Red

:31:56. > :32:00.Bull, Vettel maiden earlier than expected stop. The front runners,

:32:01. > :32:06.Ricciardo was the last -- made an earlier stop Hogies responding to

:32:07. > :32:12.what the drivers feel. Making tyres last. Daniel Ricciardo has it more

:32:13. > :32:19.comfortable with the tyres, making them last longer. Mark Webber was

:32:20. > :32:22.seemingly able to get a feel more laps out of them than Mark was.

:32:23. > :32:28.Could be reflected in the decisions of the driver. Comes out behind

:32:29. > :32:37.Raikkonen. He is behind Raikkonen, the other Ferrari. RADIO: Lewis, the

:32:38. > :32:44.race will be at the end, at the end. The suggestion is we sit to,

:32:45. > :32:49.2.5 seconds without losing the downforce, we will need the tyres at

:32:50. > :32:53.the end -- we sit two. Lewis will relish the opportunity to go

:32:54. > :32:56.wheel-to-wheel with Nico Rosberg. He didn't respond to that radio

:32:57. > :33:05.message, three tenths quicker in the middle sector. At this stage. I

:33:06. > :33:09.understand the engineer's message. It is the race in you, telling you

:33:10. > :33:12.to go forward, the opportunity to make

:33:13. > :33:17.to go forward, the opportunity to position. Better to try to weave and

:33:18. > :33:21.control it. Hoping at the end of the Grand Prix for tenths on Rosberg in

:33:22. > :33:25.that lap, the gap is down to 1.3 seconds. A bit of brake dust from

:33:26. > :33:30.Paris. We have seen some breaking issues, busy -- from Perez. On the

:33:31. > :33:31.heavy braking circuit, something to keep an eye on. Well spotted, that

:33:32. > :33:42.could be an issue. The brake materials, the long lead

:33:43. > :33:45.time items, take months to produce, process and go through the carbon

:33:46. > :33:50.fibre breaks, what have you. Sometimes you just get rogue

:33:51. > :33:53.material. Bottas Having a look at Magnussen again, making a later

:33:54. > :33:59.move. Bottas Has to be a bit careful. Picking up the penalty in

:34:00. > :34:01.Spa, you have got to make a clear decision, defending your position or

:34:02. > :34:06.not, you are not allowed to change the position of the kindly braking

:34:07. > :34:10.zone. That is a safety call, written in the rules and the drivers

:34:11. > :34:15.understand, they get a 20 second penalty, he got a late move, pushing

:34:16. > :34:19.Alonso onto the grass. Hamilton getting a massive amount of Rosberg,

:34:20. > :34:23.he will be in DRS range over the line. Hamilton is miles quick at

:34:24. > :34:28.this stage than Nico Rosberg. -- quicker. He is using the new tyre to

:34:29. > :34:33.best effect. Rosberg has been out for a lap longer, when the tie is

:34:34. > :34:37.new it is at its best, Hamilton will have a real chance --. When the

:34:38. > :34:42.tyre. I don't think he will have a chance yet but gaining massively on

:34:43. > :34:46.this last lap. It was 1.3 seconds, he has taken six tenths of a second

:34:47. > :34:51.out of Nico Rosberg on the map. He has got to judge it as to whether he

:34:52. > :34:55.looks after the tyres, or does he go fully? -- on the lap. He has gone

:34:56. > :35:00.straight on, surely this is Hamilton's chance to take the lead

:35:01. > :35:04.in the Grand Prix and he does! Hamilton is in front, Rosberg makes

:35:05. > :35:07.a mistake and Lewis Hamilton is gifted the lead. That wasn't a gift,

:35:08. > :35:13.that was pressure, he pressured Rosberg into a mistake. As we were

:35:14. > :35:16.saying, it is fine and well the engineer saying let's make this

:35:17. > :35:19.happen at the end of the Grand Prix, he has been systematically putting

:35:20. > :35:23.the pressure on Rosberg. Rosberg having to be careful, the minute he

:35:24. > :35:29.got that gap down to under a second. Rosberg got flustered, he made the

:35:30. > :35:32.mistake. There is no doubt who has the psychological edge now, it is

:35:33. > :35:37.Lewis Hamilton. He has forced his team-mate into a mistake, he got the

:35:38. > :35:40.lead in the Grand Prix. He is flying at the moment, he is absolutely

:35:41. > :35:47.setting the screens alight with the times he is doing. Alonso!

:35:48. > :35:51.Retirement for Alonso, the first time we have seen him out for such a

:35:52. > :35:55.long, long time. We will have to wait to find out what has happened,

:35:56. > :36:01.was it an accident, a mechanical problem? He has had no non-finishes

:36:02. > :36:07.this year. Parked at the first chicane. It could well have been a

:36:08. > :36:10.mechanical issue. If it is, we have to go back to his first season with

:36:11. > :36:17.Ferrari, when he had an engine failure. He has never had a

:36:18. > :36:19.nonclassified finish with Ferrari, due to mechanical problems. Never a

:36:20. > :36:24.good time to have it but the worst time possible, to do that in front

:36:25. > :36:30.of the Tifosi. This is down the start-finish. Adjustments on his

:36:31. > :36:38.touring with his right hand. -- on his steering. Year, sounds like a

:36:39. > :36:43.power plant failure. Well, that is... You have to go back to 2009,

:36:44. > :36:48.not classified as a finished, he will not be classified, we are only

:36:49. > :36:53.on Lap 29. 2009, when he was with Renault, was the last time he had a

:36:54. > :36:56.mechanical DNF. I do not know how he has always had that reliability, but

:36:57. > :37:02.that is a shock. On home turf as well. He scores points every race

:37:03. > :37:06.until this one this year, but no longer. -- he scored. Hamilton

:37:07. > :37:11.leading this Grand Prix and I opening up the gap, 2.1 seconds.

:37:12. > :37:16.RADIO: Important to lock-up with these ties to be able to attack at

:37:17. > :37:20.the end, Nico. Save fuel and we attack at the end. -- with these

:37:21. > :37:24.tyres. That is all he can think about. But Rosberg made the earlier

:37:25. > :37:29.stop. It depends if Lewis took a lot out of his tyres but he seems to be

:37:30. > :37:35.in a good place, Hamilton is flying. He is indeed. Two exceptional

:37:36. > :37:41.drivers. A song that popped into my head, when the engineers talked to

:37:42. > :37:44.them, super trap, And. -- super Tramp. You have to be creative with

:37:45. > :37:50.keeping your man motivated. -- dreamer. Hamilton has come back from

:37:51. > :37:52.a bad start, worked his way through and he has overtaken you and he is

:37:53. > :37:55.pulling away. Not over. and he has overtaken you and he is

:37:56. > :38:03.Valtteri Bottas, we have been and he has overtaken you and he is

:38:04. > :38:07.watching him on many occasions make good overtaking

:38:08. > :38:10.watching him on many occasions make Kevin Magnussen. Trying to see if he

:38:11. > :38:16.can close up behind the McLaren once again. Similar life on the tyres.

:38:17. > :38:21.Daniil Kvyat has made a pit stop, his first one. A long way. Bottas

:38:22. > :38:24.Coming down the outside of Kevin Magnussen, can he make the move

:38:25. > :38:30.stick? A touch and over the kerb goes Bottas as a result. Another

:38:31. > :38:35.late move. We have to be careful. We need to see that one again. We do

:38:36. > :38:41.not want to see cars jerking around over 200 miles an hour. The people

:38:42. > :38:44.you are competing with can't possibly know, you have got a faint

:38:45. > :38:50.position in your car, progressively move your car. So the other person

:38:51. > :38:54.understand what you are intending to do. Quite a late move to one side.

:38:55. > :39:00.Bottas Trying to do what Hamilton did too matter earlier. Just leaning

:39:01. > :39:09.on him -- what Hamilton did too matter. Wheel-to-wheel racing. --

:39:10. > :39:14.did to mass. Jenson Button with an opportunity to close on Sergio

:39:15. > :39:18.Perez. -- Massa. Christian Horner joins us, great to have you with us,

:39:19. > :39:21.tell us how the race is going from your point of view, Sebastian Vettel

:39:22. > :39:28.in fourth, Daniel Ricciardo in 10th? Beyond expectation. Magnussen

:39:29. > :39:35.running Bottas a bit steep, broke the Diarra is for us. -- a bit deep,

:39:36. > :39:39.broke the DRS. Bottas Looks that bit too quick for all of them at

:39:40. > :39:42.broke the DRS. Bottas Looks that bit moment. This track is obviously

:39:43. > :39:45.putting huge commands on breaking, we saw Rosberg make a couple of

:39:46. > :39:49.mistakes. You can see brake dust appearing from the car on the Force

:39:50. > :39:53.India of Paris, under pressure from Button. Pops

:39:54. > :39:57.India of Paris, under pressure from the inside. Side-by-side racing. I

:39:58. > :40:02.think Pervez will just send him of -- Perez. How marginal are you on

:40:03. > :40:06.breaking out Red Bull? One of the biggest challenges on breaking this

:41:51. > :41:53.on-board with the one with a contract for next year, he knows

:41:54. > :41:57.what he is doing. Kevin Magnussen is still waiting to hear whether he

:41:58. > :42:02.will be driving for McLaren. Publicly, we don't know but maybe

:42:03. > :42:06.privately there has been some... Contracts put in place. It seems

:42:07. > :42:14.like they want to hang in there. RADIO: Keep it clean. Keep it

:42:15. > :42:20.clean. Jenson wasn't as close this time, keep it clean. We hope to keep

:42:21. > :42:25.the fuel performance back soon. He is having to save fuel. Hearing from

:42:26. > :42:27.a few people, generally going into this race, particularly for the

:42:28. > :42:32.Mercedes engined cars, we thought they would be safe on fuel, without

:42:33. > :42:35.having to go into fuel saving technique. But what we have heard on

:42:36. > :42:40.the radio, they are using a few of those techniques, lifting off early

:42:41. > :42:45.for some of corners is usual one. Just to try to use a fraction less

:42:46. > :42:49.fuel. Lifting at high speed is very efficient fuel saving, you lose

:42:50. > :42:55.minimum lap time whilst gaining a lot. Using the horsepower to push

:42:56. > :42:59.your way through the air. No change between that the tour group

:43:00. > :43:02.Magnussen in fifth, there is a change behind, though. Daniel

:43:03. > :43:08.Ricciardo gets past Raikkonen. Ninth place. Ricciardo is making progress

:43:09. > :43:14.on those tyres. Raikkonen in a bit of bother. He pushed down to 10th

:43:15. > :43:18.place, doesn't look very quick. No. Struggling. Last lap wasn't hugely

:43:19. > :43:25.slower. Renault power on Ferrari. It was a

:43:26. > :43:28.really lovely late piece of breaking. Raikkonen was not

:43:29. > :43:35.expecting it. My goodness, Ricciardo does it again. He is an ace racer.

:43:36. > :43:38.Talking with Eddie off air before the show, the only thing at the

:43:39. > :43:42.moment that the show, the only thing at the

:43:43. > :43:46.from Bottas and Magnussen getting the opportunity. Bottas And

:43:47. > :43:53.Magnussen owing wheel-to-wheel. We have seen that.

:43:54. > :43:58.Daniel is great at wheel-to-wheel racing. Valtteri Bottas has had a

:43:59. > :44:02.great season but just by being clean and keeping it together. This is the

:44:03. > :44:11.first opportunity for us to really see how he is, going wheel-to-wheel.

:44:12. > :44:13.Stewards are investigating the incident with Valtteri Bottas and

:44:14. > :44:17.Kevin Magnussen, being forced over a bit too much. They are being a bit

:44:18. > :44:22.more lenient but you did not like it either. I am conscious of the fact

:44:23. > :44:26.that the viewers at home will say racing is racing but there is a very

:44:27. > :44:28.clear rule, that you have to define whether you are defending into a

:44:29. > :44:34.corner or maintaining track position. RADIO: OK, it is going to

:44:35. > :44:39.get pretty tasty. A lot of changes in places going. Let's get amongst

:44:40. > :44:42.it. The next one Daniel Ricciardo is chasing is Jenson Button. We are

:44:43. > :44:46.looking forward to this if he can pull off some more moves like that

:44:47. > :44:50.stunning one on Kimi Raikkonen. We have seen several like that this

:44:51. > :44:56.year from Daniel Ricciardo. It is a bit of a Red Bull freestyle. It was

:44:57. > :44:59.a very late move. As he goes into the turn, the cars are

:45:00. > :45:03.side-by-side. They may feel that he squeezed Valtteri Bottas and left

:45:04. > :45:06.him no choice but to run over. Kevin Magnussen does have form from the

:45:07. > :45:14.previous race. He got a penalty than that. You cannot not listen to what

:45:15. > :45:16.the stewards are saying. Traditionally, it is about where

:45:17. > :45:21.your front wheels are, alongside the other car. Was he far enough that

:45:22. > :45:25.Kevin Magnussen should have given him space? We saw Felipe Massa

:45:26. > :45:31.giving Hamilton the space in the same place. If you play that game,

:45:32. > :45:34.and Valtteri Bottas locks up into Parabolica, affecting his run out of

:45:35. > :45:39.the corner, it probably means he won't have the chance to attempt to

:45:40. > :45:42.pass Magnusson. Although they have been significantly quicker in a

:45:43. > :45:46.straight line than McLaren so let's not write it off as a possible

:45:47. > :45:52.overtake into the first chicane. I think the stewards don't like to see

:45:53. > :45:55.late moves. You asked those to make a decision before the car in front

:45:56. > :45:57.has positioned himself. At those speeds, the reason they brought in

:45:58. > :46:01.lower noses this year is to stop cars getting launched over the rear

:46:02. > :46:06.tyres of the other car. That is why they take a dim view of it. You have

:46:07. > :46:10.to be careful. Hamilton continues to lead the Italian Grand Prix by 4.3

:46:11. > :46:15.seconds. Right now, Valtteri Bottas is trying to move through the order.

:46:16. > :46:18.He is tucked in behind Kevin Magnussen, whose slides quite a lot

:46:19. > :46:23.out of the second chicane. They have lost a bit of forward momentum

:46:24. > :46:26.through that. Rosberg is second, and Felipe Massa is still third for

:46:27. > :46:31.Williams. Sebastian Vettel is in fourth, there, a bit lonely now and

:46:32. > :46:37.then a group four fifths, Valtteri Bottas getting out of shape this

:46:38. > :46:40.time out of Lesmo two. Daniel Ricciardo was 28.8 the last time

:46:41. > :46:44.around, the same of the leaders. RADIO: You are doing such a good

:46:45. > :46:49.job, just control the rear tyres slipped. As long as we are in the

:46:50. > :46:53.DRS train, we are OK, I think. Saving fuel and the DRS train,

:46:54. > :46:57.Jenson Button getting closer to the back or Sergio Perez, there.

:46:58. > :47:00.Valtteri Bottas is in a better position this time into Parabolica,

:47:01. > :47:05.but losing downfalls, locking up last time round as well. He has to

:47:06. > :47:10.be careful not to flat spot the tyre because they have to get him to the

:47:11. > :47:14.end of the Grand Prix. Kevin Magnussen will react early but he

:47:15. > :47:17.has two. Valtteri Bottas has got the slipstream and he goes to the

:47:18. > :47:21.outside because Magnusson goes to the inside but this time, Valtteri

:47:22. > :47:25.Bottas makes the move before he completed. Jenson Button tried to

:47:26. > :47:28.get past Sergio Perez but could not. Sorry, Sergio

:47:29. > :47:30.get past Sergio Perez but could defending enough but Valtteri Bottas

:47:31. > :47:35.has got himself into fifth place in the Grand Prix, having dropped right

:47:36. > :47:40.to the bottom of the top ten at the start. Let's see, in the end, it was

:47:41. > :47:43.quite straightforward. He knew what Magnusson's was going to be,

:47:44. > :47:48.defending to the inside and just carry the momentum around the

:47:49. > :47:52.outside. Williams like that and their cars are currently in third

:47:53. > :47:55.and fifth places. Felipe Massa, looking at a podium finish

:47:56. > :47:59.currently. Valtteri Bottas in fifth place and he will go after Sebastian

:48:00. > :48:04.Vettel. We know the straight-line speed advantage of the Williams.

:48:05. > :48:07.Meanwhile, the gap between the leaders, 4.3 seconds, a bit of a

:48:08. > :48:12.gain on the last lap but a penalty for Kevin Magnussen, a 5 second stop

:48:13. > :48:18.and go. Normally, you take the penalty at the pit stop, but we

:48:19. > :48:23.won't have another one. Presumably, they will have to add it at the end.

:48:24. > :48:29.We will see how that goes. They will see how that goes. They were at the

:48:30. > :48:35.Grand Prix. -- will add it. We have to see how that will affect Kevin

:48:36. > :48:40.Magnussen, who is currently in sixth place, having been passed by

:48:41. > :48:45.Valtteri Bottas. Daniel Ricciardo has got it down to 2.3 seconds, half

:48:46. > :48:50.a second quicker, well, seven tenths quicker than Jenson Button. He is

:48:51. > :48:54.going to get himself in position. I saw Jenson Button might have the

:48:55. > :48:56.move made but Sergio Perez makes a mistake and now Jenson Button can

:48:57. > :49:01.come back on the exits of the corner. Sergio Perez just doing

:49:02. > :49:04.enough. He had another opportunity in the second chicane but look at

:49:05. > :49:08.Ricciardo in the back of the picture, catching the back of Jenson

:49:09. > :49:15.Button. Somehow finding pace in the car. I was going to say that

:49:16. > :49:17.Sebastian Vettel is going to come under pressure quickly from battery

:49:18. > :49:21.to rebut us and I don't think he will be able to do much about it.

:49:22. > :49:23.You saw the speed offset with McLaren and the

:49:24. > :49:25.You saw the speed offset with it is much bigger between the

:49:26. > :49:30.Williams and the Red Bull, of course. Still McLaren against Force

:49:31. > :49:34.India in this group but Kevin Magnussen with a penalty and he will

:49:35. > :49:38.drop behind when the time is added at the end of the race, which would

:49:39. > :49:42.effectively promote Sergio Perez into what would be sixth place at

:49:43. > :49:46.the moment, and Jenson Button into seventh. They are fighting for point

:49:47. > :49:49.in the Constructors' Championship, McLaren and Force India, and the gap

:49:50. > :49:53.coming into this race was just two points between them. They are racing

:49:54. > :49:58.for fifth place. Williams look to be scoring well today, a real chance

:49:59. > :50:02.and I think they should move back to third place in the Constructors'

:50:03. > :50:05.Championship. Alonso is out of the Grand Prix and Kimi Raikkonen is in

:50:06. > :50:09.10th place, not really doing anything. 6.3 seconds ahead of Nico

:50:10. > :50:13.Hulkenberg, and the other Force India is not in the points. Sergio

:50:14. > :50:16.Perez, and Jenson Button with a better run down the main straight

:50:17. > :50:20.and surely going to the inside, against his former team-mate at

:50:21. > :50:26.McLaren last year. Nothing Sergio Perez can do this time, and Jenson

:50:27. > :50:31.Button makes the move. Crucial in terms of points in the Constructors'

:50:32. > :50:35.Championship. Look at the overseer from Sergio Perez, really struggling

:50:36. > :50:40.with the rear end grip. But he is coming back at Jenson Button. This

:50:41. > :50:44.is not over. He did not defend aggressively into the chicane but

:50:45. > :50:48.can he keep the car on the outside? He is pushed the inside. Jenson

:50:49. > :50:51.Button end up on the grass on the exit and they are still

:50:52. > :50:55.side-by-side! Now Sergio Perez is going to try to take the place back,

:50:56. > :50:58.almost rubbing as they come through Lesmo and they will have to try to

:50:59. > :51:05.do it again, Sergio Perez still on the inside explanation mark -- still

:51:06. > :51:10.on the inside! They had contact last year and look how this is Daniel

:51:11. > :51:16.Ricciardo, who is right with them. With DRS into Ascari, will he have a

:51:17. > :51:19.little sniff? Look at the break dust coming off the Force India. Clearly

:51:20. > :51:21.Sergio Perez completely missed the MPEG on the second chicane but it

:51:22. > :51:26.was such good wheel-to-wheel racing and he was great fair with Jenson

:51:27. > :51:29.Button at the first Lesmo, gave him space on the outside so hopefully

:51:30. > :51:33.that will be left alone as good action. Hopefully I Daniel Ricciardo

:51:34. > :51:35.adjusting his steering wheel as he looks to get into a different engine

:51:36. > :51:41.mode perhaps, as he looks to join looks to get into a different engine

:51:42. > :51:42.Button. Just up ahead of them, they are lapping Jules Bianchi and

:51:43. > :51:46.Valtteri Bottas are lapping Jules Bianchi and

:51:47. > :51:50.Sebastian Vettel, and goes into fourth place in the Italian Grand

:51:51. > :51:59.Prix. Williams are now third and fourth and Daniel Ricciardo down the

:52:00. > :52:01.inside, taking Jenson Button but not Sergio Perez. Great judgement. So

:52:02. > :52:04.many drivers in that situation would have tried to do them both which was

:52:05. > :52:07.never on. But Daniel Ricciardo does it well. I thought he would end up

:52:08. > :52:09.getting the Force India but he is so confident in the braking zone.

:52:10. > :52:14.Jenson Button, the speed confident in the braking zone.

:52:15. > :52:19.it hard but once he gets on the brakes again, the Red Bull has the

:52:20. > :52:28.little edge. Jules Bianchi keeping out of the way. He is still behind

:52:29. > :52:35.Kobe Ashley in the race between Marussia and caterer. -- Kobayashi.

:52:36. > :52:38.Sergio Perez was clear, did not try to defend the inside line and Jenson

:52:39. > :52:42.Button passes and gets himself in position. Then we saw Alonso

:52:43. > :52:49.Dubuisson Mark Webber a couple of years ago. RADIO: I saw it but that

:52:50. > :52:51.was brilliant, brilliant. Let's get back up to Kevin Magnussen. Settle

:52:52. > :53:01.down, mate. I think Jenson Button took the

:53:02. > :53:10.racing line and Sergio took evasive action. Daniel chose the brakes.

:53:11. > :53:16.That was lovely. Fantastic, not even a lock-up. Ricciardo, moving up to

:53:17. > :53:21.eighth place, and now he is tucked in behind another car to try to

:53:22. > :53:25.pass, Sergio Perez. We know the Force India is struggling on the

:53:26. > :53:30.brakes. That is a bit more marginal. Everybody breathed in, looking for

:53:31. > :53:37.the front wing flap to get knocked off. Side-by-side, through Curva

:53:38. > :53:39.Grande A, we have seen this before but this time, Ricciardo slots in

:53:40. > :53:44.behind the Force India and comes back late to the inside, going for

:53:45. > :53:48.the line down the inside! Sold him the dummy, and Ricciardo takes

:53:49. > :53:54.another place! Sold it and he bought it. Fantastic, fantastic racing.

:53:55. > :53:57.Such confidence behind the wheel. Daniel Ricciardo of Italian heritage

:53:58. > :54:01.but very much the Australian made good. He is driving so well this

:54:02. > :54:05.year and although he might not be heading for a hat-trick of wins

:54:06. > :54:08.today, he is again setting the Formula One world alight, not just

:54:09. > :54:14.with his pace but the way he goes about his racing. He is now chasing

:54:15. > :54:16.after Kevin Magnussen, who is currently in sixth place. Sebastian

:54:17. > :54:21.Vettel is ahead of him, in fifth place. It would be back to team

:54:22. > :54:25.orders, if you like, in terms of the Red Bull cars being together. He

:54:26. > :54:31.gets out dragged through Curva Grande A, gets the slipstream, looks

:54:32. > :54:34.as though he will go right, but dummies to the left and I cannot

:54:35. > :54:41.stress how difficult it is to break on inside from over 200 mph, into

:54:42. > :54:44.the second chicane. Beautiful bit of driving and Jenson Button with

:54:45. > :54:49.another opportunity to close up to Sergio Perez, with DRS in operation.

:54:50. > :54:54.Does he go to the inside? Yes, and Sergio Perez on the outside, and

:54:55. > :54:57.this time, the McLaren sneaks in front. Sergio Perez came back at him

:54:58. > :55:01.and Jenson Button went in a bit steep again that time. As Sergio

:55:02. > :55:09.Perez got the grip to try to get back alongside the McLaren? Speed is

:55:10. > :55:12.coming up to 200 mph again and just inches separating the cars. He goes

:55:13. > :55:16.to the outside, where he got him last time but this time, Jenson

:55:17. > :55:18.to the outside, where he got him Button breaks later. You to lift off

:55:19. > :55:23.the throttle and Jenson Button locks up. He gets the switchback because

:55:24. > :55:29.he had to lift out of the throttle in Curva Grande. Fantastic action

:55:30. > :55:33.between these two guys. Great race craft from Sergio Perez, this time,

:55:34. > :55:39.judging it to perfection. Jenson Button had to be late on the brakes

:55:40. > :55:43.but he went a bit too deep. These two guys know each other well,

:55:44. > :55:49.team-mates last year at McLaren. Sergio Perez, showing great skill

:55:50. > :55:52.and good racing instinct. That was fantastic. One thing we need to keep

:55:53. > :55:56.an eye on is the five second penalty which will be added to Magnusson

:55:57. > :56:00.which will be crucial for Raikkonen. At the moment, it could put in one

:56:01. > :56:03.second ahead of Kimi Raikkonen, intense, so from Raikkonen and

:56:04. > :56:07.Ferrari, this is the difference between ninth and 10th and I'm sure

:56:08. > :56:09.it has not been lost on them. They will be giving writing in one second

:56:10. > :56:11.ahead of Kimi Raikkonen, intense, so from Raikkonen and Ferrari, this is

:56:12. > :56:14.the difference between ninth and 10th and I'm sure it has not been

:56:15. > :56:17.lost on them. They will be giving Raikkonen the a couple of seconds

:56:18. > :56:19.between now and the end of the race, that will make all the difference

:56:20. > :56:21.between getting in that will make all the difference

:56:22. > :56:25.Jenson Button not in position to make the attack on Sergio Perez and

:56:26. > :56:30.Ricciardo not quite close enough to Magnusson although he is in DRS

:56:31. > :56:33.range now. Hamilton continues to lead in Italy, with ten laps to go.

:56:34. > :56:39.The gap between Hamilton and Rosberg is 4.4 seconds. Sergio Perez,

:56:40. > :56:45.incredibly fair in the braking zone, does not weave around, sees Jenson

:56:46. > :56:49.Button coming and accept it is all going to be about the brakes and

:56:50. > :56:53.then comes back at him. In this case, I was explained that Daniel

:56:54. > :56:55.Ricciardo on the inside, you did not lock-up, and managed to get it. In

:56:56. > :56:58.Ricciardo on the inside, you did not fairness to Jenson Button, the

:56:59. > :57:04.McLaren is not a car which will go down in history as one of

:57:05. > :57:11.Britain's's best designs. But Sergio Perez, very impassive driving. --

:57:12. > :57:14.impressive driving. You has matured hugely in the last year with McLaren

:57:15. > :57:21.and now at Force India. He's almost a different driver. You did not do

:57:22. > :57:23.anything wrong but McLaren's history is that when they have a bad

:57:24. > :57:29.season, they find a different driver. RADIO: OK, we need to keep

:57:30. > :57:36.it tidy and make sure we get to the end. Meanwhile, Ricardo has closed

:57:37. > :57:39.up on Kevin Magnussen. -- Daniel Ricciardo. Kevin Magnussen will have

:57:40. > :57:44.the edge but we have seen how quick Daniel Ricciardo is on the fresh

:57:45. > :57:47.tyres. He is going to have a go, somewhere, on the brakes. We'll

:57:48. > :57:52.Kevin Magnussen cover the inside? Daniel Ricciardo goes for it down

:57:53. > :57:56.the inside, locks up but still makes the move beautifully, comes off the

:57:57. > :57:59.brakes had the perfect moment, turns the car and there was nothing Kevin

:58:00. > :58:05.Magnussen could do and Daniel Ricciardo is into sixth place. Kevin

:58:06. > :58:08.was probably well worn, and has the five second penalty as well for

:58:09. > :58:13.being a bit marginal on wheel-to-wheel action. He did not

:07:11. > :07:20.Sergio Perez also went for an early pit stop. Watching the lap times...

:07:35. > :07:39.relatively lucky to not end up with more damage. That was a big lock-up

:07:40. > :07:44.for Hamilton. He has dropped half a second to Rosberg, last time. I hope

:07:45. > :07:47.he hasn't got a severe flat spot. You lose vision when the tyres

:07:48. > :07:54.started to vibrate. Remember back to a few years ago, when Raikkonen was

:07:55. > :07:57.at McLaren. We did not have tyres stops, his suspension exploded in

:07:58. > :08:02.the first chicane. Gutierrez coming back with that puncture. Raikkonen

:08:09. > :08:12.seems I am being hard, but I do not like to see cars weaving around, the

:08:13. > :08:16.rules are very clear. I am surprised the stewards will not be in his ear

:09:03. > :09:06.tyres. He has not got a huge amount of grip, they are struggling at this

:09:07. > :09:13.point in the Grand Prix. As the tyres are worn. You need heat in the

:09:14. > :09:16.tyres, when they are worn it is easy for the tyre temperature to drop,

:09:30. > :09:34.That is where Magnussen might drop behind Daniil Kvyat. Magnussen has

:09:35. > :09:40.done enough. The race stewards will look at that incident between

:09:41. > :09:47.Grosjean. Derek Warwick is the driver Stuart. This time. Button

:09:48. > :09:52.picks up the DRS. Any chance for him on Sergio Perez? Even Stevens. Look

:09:53. > :09:55.at the break just. Daniil Kvyat has gone straight down the first

:10:12. > :10:16.unsurprisingly. -- polystyrene. Looks like there is a big issue with

:10:17. > :10:20.the car. A chance for Daniil Kvyat to get in the points has been

:10:21. > :10:25.denied. Hamilton heading towards a victory, the gap has gone down to

:10:26. > :10:29.2.9 seconds as Daniil Kvyat my goodness, it looks like there was

:10:51. > :10:56.barrier. Kimi Raikkonen has caught this group. We are on the last lap,

:10:57. > :11:00.the gap in front is around the three second mark. Hamilton has this under

:11:01. > :11:05.control despite a poor getaway. Raikkonen on the back of Jenson

:11:06. > :11:09.Button. These guys have still got a lap to go, the leaders are on the

:11:10. > :11:15.lap but they still have a lab, we could see more changes. The Ferrari

:11:16. > :11:18.has not had the straight line speed. I do not see how Raikkonen will be

:11:19. > :11:22.able to slipstream past the first chicane. It would be great for

:11:23. > :11:27.somebody else. Last few opportunities. We are running out of

:11:28. > :11:35.time. There is Lewis Hamilton coming up towards the Parabolica. He is out

:11:36. > :11:41.of the final corner. Lewis Hamilton wins the Italian Grand Prix! What a

:11:42. > :11:45.result. What a comeback. And he has taken the psychological edge. And

:11:46. > :11:50.improvement over Nico Rosberg, no doubt. Felipe Massa gets his first

:12:47. > :12:49.Magnussen seven, Perez eight, Raikkonen in 10th place but

:12:50. > :12:54.Magnussen is not seven because he has the five second penalty which

:14:16. > :14:22.Thank you, guys, very good, I'm so happy for the result, especially

:14:23. > :14:29.here in Italy. You know, use only ever had one podium at Monza before,

:14:30. > :14:34.in 11 starts, now, in 2010. I think that will mean a huge amount. He has

:14:35. > :14:39.had so much support in Italy from his Ferrari days. It is a small

:14:40. > :14:41.token for the Italian fans as well, once a Ferrari driver, always a

:14:42. > :14:45.Ferrari driver so expect a lot of passion for Felipe Massa on the

:14:46. > :14:50.podium. Disappointment for Fernando Alonso. Kimi Raikkonen scrapes in

:14:51. > :14:54.ninth place, still not looking like the driver of last year when he was

:14:55. > :14:59.able to pick up the Lotus and do amazing things with it. That's

:15:00. > :15:03.right, very different performance. Times have been adjusted, now, so we

:15:04. > :15:09.can confirm that Kevin Magnussen, with that five second penalty, Nish

:15:10. > :15:16.10th but Sergio Perez Nish is in seventh, and Force India managed to

:15:17. > :15:20.finish ahead of McLaren. The other McLaren picked up one point. It is

:15:21. > :15:23.so finely balanced in the Constructors' Championship between

:15:24. > :15:27.Force India and McLaren. I think Force India will be relieved to have

:15:28. > :15:30.got away with that. Hulkenberg out of the points for only the second

:15:45. > :15:49.A lots of guests on the various different sponsors, and for them to

:15:50. > :15:54.get third and fourth place, Williams, is a huge achievement. And

:15:55. > :15:58.Williams now moving back ahead of Ferrari, into third place in the

:15:59. > :16:01.Constructors' Championship. Of course, they manage to get ahead of

:16:02. > :16:06.Ferrari if you races ago but they have not finished the season in that

:16:07. > :16:12.position -- a few races ago, they have not finished in that position

:16:13. > :16:15.needn't -- in the Constructors' Championship since 2003. The

:16:16. > :16:18.traditional track invasion taking place with the rather wonderful

:16:19. > :16:24.Ferrari flag but not much to celebrate, really. Fernando

:16:25. > :16:27.Alonso's demise, Kimi Raikkonen finishing ninth in the end. That has

:16:28. > :16:33.to be one of the worst finishes for Ferrari on home turf will stop but

:16:34. > :16:37.for Lewis Hamilton, it has just been a perfect weekend, except for a bit

:16:38. > :16:40.of a missed session on Friday, with a mechanical problem. Everything

:16:41. > :16:44.else has gone according to plan. He has closed the gap are seven points

:17:32. > :17:37.Interesting that Nico Rosberg and the Mercedes representative are

:17:38. > :17:41.speaking Italian. Interesting to see Lewis Hamilton and Felipe Massa, who

:17:42. > :17:48.at one time were at loggerheads. There is great racing respect

:17:49. > :17:53.between those guys. Yes. Interesting, Nico speaking Italian

:17:54. > :18:04.to Felipe Massa as well. So the psychological games continue.

:18:05. > :18:08.That was fascinating, excluding Hamilton from the conversation

:18:09. > :18:15.because he does not speak Italian. But I don't think he really cares.

:18:16. > :18:20.Dad is a happy with that, Anthony, there, supporting his son this

:18:21. > :18:25.weekend. And his stepmother there as well, of course. The family have

:18:26. > :18:29.been here, in support of Lewis Hamilton. I think that really makes

:18:30. > :18:33.a difference to him. The split with his father, who was managing his

:18:34. > :18:38.career, you wonder whether, not having someone in his corner, who is

:18:39. > :18:43.totally on his side, has sometimes been bad news for Lewis Hamilton.

:18:44. > :18:46.But certainly, this weekend, he has looked supreme. Felipe Massa steps

:18:47. > :18:51.up to the podium in Monza, and enjoys it, soaks everything up. It

:18:52. > :18:55.is one of the most special in Formula One. Nico Rosberg, the first

:18:56. > :19:02.time he has ever had a chance to do this, get on the podium at Monza.

:19:03. > :19:05.But Lewis has done it before, and by doing it today, he has narrowed the

:19:06. > :19:09.gap slightly in the World Championship, gaining seven points

:19:10. > :19:26.back on the 29 point gap they had coming into this event.

:19:27. > :21:03.CHEERING Lewis Hamilton, having an absolutely

:21:04. > :21:09.brilliant weekend in Italy. The third win for Mercedes at Monza. If

:21:10. > :21:14.you go back to the 1950s, then they have managed to achieve it here, and

:21:15. > :21:25.they had a one-two in 1955, and they have got a one-two in 2014,

:21:26. > :21:27.they had a one-two in 1955, and they Hamilton and Nico Rosberg. And the

:21:28. > :21:33.electronics specialist for Mercedes, picking up the trophy for the

:21:34. > :21:34.constructors' title. And Nico Rosberg completing the Mercedes

:21:35. > :21:41.constructors' title. And Nico one-two, his first podium in Italy.

:21:42. > :21:47.But interestingly, still getting some negative reaction from the

:21:48. > :21:51.crowd. You feel that he has lost the PR momentum that he had going for

:21:52. > :21:55.him in the early part of the season. And Felipe Massa with third place.

:21:56. > :22:05.They still love him in Italy. It is lovely to see.

:22:06. > :22:11.Well, Lewis Hamilton's sixth win of 2014 means that he has won more

:22:12. > :22:16.races this year than in any other single season in his career. Of

:22:17. > :22:22.course, he went on to win the 2008 World Championship. You have do

:22:23. > :22:25.think that even though he is behind in the points, if he can keep up

:22:26. > :22:31.this kind of sequence, he has every chance of taking another world title

:22:32. > :22:35.in 2014. But there will be lots more ups and downs along the path. We

:22:36. > :22:42.have six more Grands Prix still to go. And a massive number of points

:22:43. > :22:45.are still available in the championship, 175, because of the

:22:46. > :22:50.double points finish in Abu Dhabi. Everything to fight for. Rosberg

:22:51. > :22:55.still leads the championship but Hamilton is closing him down. And

:22:56. > :23:00.there is a man who must be very much happier than he was last time out,

:23:01. > :23:01.after Spa, as the team have delivered on their promise of

:23:02. > :23:12.another one-two finish this season. Williams, delivering their best

:23:13. > :23:16.result of the year in the end, finishing third and fourth and Red

:23:17. > :23:19.Bull, of course, fifth and sixth. The man who is going to do the

:23:20. > :23:34.interviews is a former man on pole position here at Monza, Jean Alesi.

:23:35. > :23:58.High, Lewis. -- hello. So we would like to know, do you like to

:23:59. > :24:02.complicate your life? CHEERING What a great crowd we have. It is

:24:03. > :24:07.amazing, to see the whole finishing line straight completely filled with

:24:08. > :24:15.fans. You guys make this race. Thank you so much for the support.

:24:16. > :24:23.CHEERING Nico... I spoke with our friends

:24:24. > :24:25.from Monza, and they said maybe for Nico, we will change the first turn.

:24:26. > :24:32.Can you tell us what happened? Nico, we will change the first turn.

:24:33. > :24:35.did not work out today. But Lewis had a great race. He deserves it. It

:24:36. > :25:02.is OK. Felipe, what do you want to say to

:25:03. > :25:17.the public? SPEAKS ITALIAN.

:25:18. > :25:26.Well, Felipe Massa choosing to speak in Italian. I cannot speak very

:25:27. > :25:32.largely because it is a secret, what are you friends again? Of course, we

:25:33. > :25:35.are team-mates and we always will be. Reed-macro that is the best

:25:36. > :25:39.picture we can see, when you are friends, because all of your life,

:25:40. > :25:44.you race together, and we like the way you drive, and we like the way

:25:45. > :25:58.you fight. We are very pleased to hear that. We are happy. Grazie

:25:59. > :26:02.tutti! Lewis Hamilton has overtaken Jackie Stewart in terms of Grand

:26:03. > :26:05.Prix wins but all that matters to him is that he has closed the gap

:26:06. > :26:13.and he is closer to winning the 2014 World Championship. I was not Prix

:26:14. > :26:17.lackeys of the race but luck will be on my side from now until the last

:26:18. > :26:21.race, and we will be there fighting. I am so happy to be here. There is a

:26:22. > :26:24.lot more to come. 90 very much. You are the best. Beautiful. You are the

:26:25. > :26:38.best. -- thank you very much. STUDIO: Look at the great scenes in

:26:39. > :26:42.Monza, a terrific podium situation, overlooking the pit straight up

:26:43. > :26:48.which is absolutely jam-packed with fans. And lots of union Jack flag is

:26:49. > :26:52.fine for Lewis Hamilton. A rather mixed reaction, still some

:26:53. > :26:55.negativity, it has to be said, the Nico Rosberg, and even speaking a

:26:56. > :26:59.bit of Italian could not save him. But look at the tifosi. They did not

:27:00. > :27:05.do very well today, heartbreak for them. But Hamilton won the race, and

:27:06. > :27:09.Rosberg took second place. Felipe Massa, back on the podium, after

:27:10. > :27:13.being forced the last two visits, with Valtteri Bottas come his

:27:14. > :27:16.team-mate in fourth. Daniel Ricciardo providing excellent

:27:17. > :27:24.entertainment and his team-mate Sebastian Vettel, six. -- six. But

:27:25. > :27:39.of course, Kevin Magnussen has a penalty so will move back.

:27:40. > :27:49.So, what a day. LAUGHTER You said before they went out,

:27:50. > :27:54."don't hit each other". Great advice, congratulations, perfect

:27:55. > :27:58.result today? Yes, a one-two is what we aim for and today,

:27:59. > :27:59.result today? Yes, a one-two is what very exciting. There was no touching

:28:00. > :28:05.but still a very exciting race. The pressure was on and you could see

:28:06. > :28:10.it. Eddie Izzard owing me and he desperately wants to ask you a

:28:11. > :28:15.question -- is elbowing. Let's say, I am totally sceptical person,

:28:16. > :28:20.sitting at home, and people can't figure out why he made a mistake.

:28:21. > :28:23.The question I would like to ask was that the penalty that you incurred

:28:24. > :28:29.or you gave to Nico, to make sure what happened in Spa was the answer

:28:30. > :28:33.today? You mean whether we told him to miss his braking and go through

:28:34. > :28:39.the chicane and let Lewis pass? I'm just asking the question. Two no,

:28:40. > :28:42.100%. This is for the World Championship. It is a tight and he

:28:43. > :28:47.was under pressure. Lewis just wanted it. There is nothing to take

:28:48. > :28:55.it away from Lewis. That was his race, his pace was awesome and this

:28:56. > :29:02.is why he won it. What happened here? We made a mistake. A technical

:29:03. > :29:08.gremlin in the starting procedure, we have to analyse what it was, we

:29:09. > :29:11.never had before, unfortunate. Not connected to the problems he had

:29:12. > :29:15.previously during the weekend? Not at all, the clutch and departure

:29:16. > :29:22.procedures are, because, you need to put calibrate it before it wasn't.

:29:23. > :29:27.Passed out. -- calibrate it before, it wasn't perfect. It was down to

:29:28. > :29:30.Passed out. -- calibrate it before, the team, it was asked. We had a

:29:31. > :29:34.technical issue -- it was asked. You mentioned Bottas. The whole Williams

:29:35. > :29:38.team, they did not pose the problem you thought they might do, they did

:29:39. > :29:43.not have the speed, you had this race in the bag didn't you? It looks

:29:44. > :29:46.like, but I am not quite sure if Bottas would have made a good start

:29:47. > :29:54.and been there behind us. I don't know. It is true. Our pace was

:29:55. > :30:00.better than we expected. A great day for the Toto family, your wife at

:30:01. > :30:07.Williams. This is the team-mate battle that went right today. Not

:30:08. > :30:12.for Nico, obviously. I don't know, very unusual, missing the breaking

:30:13. > :30:15.point twice. He missed it twice, before as well, a lot of people on

:30:16. > :30:20.social networks were suspicious saying it is payback time. Maybe he

:30:21. > :30:23.was told to do that, which is what Eddie said to you earlier.

:30:24. > :30:30.Categorically saying it was not part of it. If it was pre-August dated

:30:31. > :30:36.like Eddie is paranoid. If I was paranoid. -- if it was preordained

:30:37. > :30:39.like Eddie. Perfect place to do it. He was under pressure, this is why

:30:40. > :30:46.it happened. Was there any concern during the last few laps, we saw

:30:47. > :30:50.Lewis almost flat spotted his tyre. Those kind of points are you

:30:51. > :30:54.thinking goodness me? We made the drivers aware that the race could

:30:55. > :31:00.get quite difficult at the end. With tyres dropping off. Nico held it

:31:01. > :31:05.back a bit, maybe he thought he could catch up at the end of the

:31:06. > :31:12.race that did not quite manage it. A good strong 1-2. We can catch up

:31:13. > :31:16.with Niki Lauda talking to Tom. That was a very determined performance by

:31:17. > :31:22.Lewis Hamilton? Absolutely, after the start problem, which was down to

:31:23. > :31:26.the car. He made a good recovery. We had all of the plans before the

:31:27. > :31:31.race. What they should and shouldn't do, the whole thing was over after

:31:32. > :31:35.the start. Everyone is talking about the psychological shift in the

:31:36. > :31:42.team, do you think the fact that Rosberg made a mistake twice going

:31:43. > :31:46.into Turn 1 is significant? I have do asking what happened, I don't

:31:47. > :31:49.want to be supercritical before I spoke to him than Lewis put him

:31:50. > :31:53.under pressure -- I have to ask him. Look at the lap times, throughout I

:31:54. > :31:59.was crying, the same time every bloody lap. They were fighting at

:32:00. > :32:04.the end. And then Lewis made it, I am happy for Lewis and Nico. With

:32:05. > :32:08.your racing driver hat on, describe what Nico Rosberg was going through

:32:09. > :32:17.when Hamilton was closing him down. He closed him down but could not get

:32:18. > :32:21.the one second gap, it was 1.2, 1.3, 1.5. Nico drove the limit, exactly

:32:22. > :32:27.is the same lap times, unbelievable how constantly they drove under

:32:28. > :32:33.limit. Nico made a breaking mistake. What a great result for the team.

:32:34. > :32:36.What a race. Incredible top racing action today, can we safely say that

:32:37. > :32:42.Nico did buckle under pressure today? I think so. We can't possibly

:32:43. > :32:45.know what issues he was dealing with, maybe the balance slipped

:32:46. > :32:51.away, tracks of all flowers the weekend goes on. Hamilton dropped

:32:52. > :32:55.away at the beginning -- tracks evolve as. I thought it would be

:32:56. > :32:58.easy for Rosberg to go home but the mental strength of Lewis to get the

:32:59. > :33:01.car back in position and applying the pressure, we heard the

:33:02. > :33:05.instruction from the race engineer, look after the tyres. See what you

:33:06. > :33:10.can do at the end but Lewis was having none of that, that is the

:33:11. > :33:16.instinct to race there. Does two mistakes from Lewis -- he had two

:33:17. > :33:21.mistakes. He knows he was well beaten. Let's have a look at those.

:33:22. > :33:26.These are the dust Mac only mistakes that Nico made in the whole race. --

:33:27. > :33:31.two mistakes. Looks like he was trying to avoid locking up. He had

:33:32. > :33:38.the flat spot issue in the previous race. It cost him an extra pit stop

:33:39. > :33:42.at the chicane. Ultimately, when Lewis Hamilton got within almost the

:33:43. > :33:47.cusp of the Diarra Sohn, same issue, locks up. Rear axle -- DRS.

:33:48. > :33:54.Immediately reacts, gets off the brace and goes down the escape road.

:33:55. > :34:01.-- gets of the breaks. Nico seemed quite relaxed, happy, he is playing

:34:02. > :34:08.the long game? He is. Remembered, let's be serious, this is the best

:34:09. > :34:11.qualifying Nico Rosberg has as have on this circuit, I disagree, I think

:34:12. > :34:15.he will go home tonight and say wow, I have got Monza over my

:34:16. > :34:20.shoulder -- he has ever had. And come away with 18 points, this is a

:34:21. > :34:22.big result for him. My big contender won the race, but I still have 20

:34:23. > :34:26.something points lead, he will be happy. He did an exceptionally good

:34:27. > :34:31.job. The tick the when happy. He did an exceptionally good

:34:32. > :34:37.qualified on pole. -- particularly when. He did not make a mistake at

:34:38. > :34:42.the beginning. He was leading the Grand Prix! He had his main

:34:43. > :34:47.the beginning. He was leading the He wasn't on pole position. Good

:34:48. > :34:48.points. Of course no points. I thought he did a good job.

:34:49. > :34:54.Absolutely. At thought he did a good job.

:34:55. > :34:59.season, people will remember that he won at Monza. Lewis can win four

:35:00. > :34:59.times and Nico can come second in the

:35:00. > :35:07.times and Nico can come second in Rosberg is also a race. He would

:35:08. > :35:12.have wanted to have won today -- is a racer. We have seen he wants to

:35:13. > :35:16.win. Winning is so important, you know how important it is. A great

:35:17. > :35:20.drive from everyone who finished, they all great drivers but the

:35:21. > :35:23.exceptional dry came from Lewis Hamilton. He kept his head after a

:35:24. > :35:29.bad start, hunted down his team-mate and needed chip away at the points

:35:30. > :35:32.deficit he has. Today was an important marker, psychologically

:35:33. > :35:38.for Nico Rosberg. Psychologically, the points difference, it does not

:35:39. > :35:42.make a huge difference in terms of Rosberg? He is still leading the

:35:43. > :35:47.championship and well far ahead of Lewis, who has been playing catch up

:35:48. > :35:52.since the end of Melbourne. He has got to hope for a DNF. That is what

:35:53. > :35:55.it boils down to. Psychologically trying to think I fly win all of the

:35:56. > :36:01.next races and he finishes second that I will eventually catch him,

:36:02. > :36:05.that would be dangerous -- if I win. He will have to hope he has then got

:36:06. > :36:09.problems with the car. To balance out Lewis, he has had many more

:36:10. > :36:13.problems with the car, why? That is still going through his head.

:36:14. > :36:17.Fascinating, we are being dished up with such excitement at every Grand

:36:18. > :36:22.Prix. In a year where we thought we might be in for a quiet time, we are

:36:23. > :36:28.having the time of our lives. Two x two for the top six and Williams

:36:29. > :36:33.arguably supplying some incredible entertainment with Valtteri Bottas,

:36:34. > :36:36.let's hear from Rob Smedley. The podium is next to us, emotional

:36:37. > :36:44.scene, you have been here before at Monza. -- emotional scenes. With

:36:45. > :36:48.Felipe if you times. Always great, over that sense, some of the best

:36:49. > :36:53.fans in the world up from the British, obviously. I am sure it is

:36:54. > :36:58.full of British people, obviously. The atmosphere is fantastic. We got

:36:59. > :37:03.a good result out of it today. We finished probably where we expected

:37:04. > :37:10.to finish. A bit hard work for ourselves but all good. What was

:37:11. > :37:13.Valtteri 's problem at the start? I don't know. Whether or not we have

:37:14. > :37:18.issues with the clutch or something like that, I don't know. I would not

:37:19. > :37:22.want to comment on it right now. We will have a look at it.

:37:23. > :37:29.That put us on the back foot, from the start but he did an amazing job.

:37:30. > :37:33.He is bloody brilliant. He put the hammer down, past people, did what

:37:34. > :37:37.we asked him to do, follow the strategy we asked him to. --

:37:38. > :37:43.followed. The team worked well and we got fourth. Had he got away well

:37:44. > :37:47.at the start, do you think it could have challenged the Mercedes pair

:37:48. > :37:51.today? It would be difficult, to be honest. We have to pay maximum

:37:52. > :37:54.respect to Mercedes, they have the best package, two great drivers,

:37:55. > :37:59.operating very well. On all of the circuits. It would be a bit naive of

:38:00. > :38:04.me to say that Valtteri would have challenged, him and leave a by

:38:05. > :38:09.matching lap times, there was not a lot between the two -- and Felipe

:38:10. > :38:14.were matching. 18 seconds behind. Ahead of Ferrari in the

:38:15. > :38:19.Constructors'. We are, aren't we? Thanks. More on Williams in a moment

:38:20. > :38:22.but we have bumped into Daniel Ricciardo, we have to speak to the

:38:23. > :38:29.ace racer, what a sweet raise it was for you. It was good fun. The staff

:38:30. > :38:34.was not planned. But we recovered well. Kept a cool head. -- sweet

:38:35. > :38:39.race. The end of the race came alive. The overtaking kept me

:38:40. > :38:44.smiling a lot in the car. Still on a high. I am sure you would like to

:38:45. > :38:49.see them back, talk us through these. Button first.

:38:50. > :38:57.That was a bit more straightforward. I felt good on the brakes,

:38:58. > :39:04.confident. He left the door open so I went for it. That was pretty

:39:05. > :39:09.straightforward. As straightforward as it can be from 200 miles an

:39:10. > :39:14.hour. Perez Nacho cool on a bit of a dummy -- Perez was cool. This is

:39:15. > :39:21.when the race started to get interesting. The one on Sebastian

:39:22. > :39:29.was next, that was good fun. Why are you laughing so much? LAUGHTER

:39:30. > :39:35.Magnussen first. So many. Yes. You were so busy. Normally more than

:39:36. > :39:38.what we see in a whole season in one race. Impressive how you are able to

:39:39. > :39:43.keep it together off-line, a lock-up front left but good on the brakes.

:39:44. > :39:48.With such low downforce, this must be sweet on your team-mate. This is

:39:49. > :39:53.with Sebastian. I saw him run it in, I knew the switchback was on. It was

:39:54. > :39:57.something I had throughout the race, confidence on my brakes. Good

:39:58. > :40:01.gears. This was a bit of fun, tried getting him on the outside but did

:40:02. > :40:06.not have enough momentum, so I switched back to the inside, a bit

:40:07. > :40:14.of a job on the brakes. You changed camera angle at the wrong time.

:40:15. > :40:20.There we go. Wow. Some of the best racing of the season from you. Yeah,

:40:21. > :40:25.it was fun. Being out of position at the start, we knew we had to do

:40:26. > :40:33.something. I figured the Mercedes would be off at the front, having a

:40:34. > :40:40.boring race. Made it fun. Tammy about team orders, you are leading

:40:41. > :40:45.Red Bull, team orders must come into play -- tell me about. Would they

:40:46. > :40:52.let you capitalise? We will see, it is yet to be discussed. My need is

:40:53. > :40:55.around 60 points over Sebastian. We will see, I would love to be quicker

:40:56. > :41:01.on merit and not need any team orders to come into play. Coming up,

:41:02. > :41:05.Singapore Suzuka strong tracks for us, if it needs to be and if we can

:41:06. > :41:09.fight Mercedes, and have a crack at this championship, I am sure

:41:10. > :41:13.something will be implied. Simon Rennie, your race engineer, said to

:41:14. > :41:17.you it will get tasty ahead, let's get amongst it, does you adrenaline

:41:18. > :41:26.spiked? You should feel it. Should I? Better not! LAUGHTER

:41:27. > :41:32.It is good, he keeps me motivated in the car, not that I needed. -- need

:41:33. > :41:36.it. We have a view freighters, we are getting along very well. Sounds

:41:37. > :41:40.like you have a close relationship which is important. -- a few

:41:41. > :41:44.phrases. How impressed were you with this man today? The racing that sets

:41:45. > :41:51.you apart from other bright young things, Bottas, Magnussen, was what

:41:52. > :41:55.you did behind the wheel, we did not see that at Toro Rosso. You have

:41:56. > :41:58.come alive under Red Bull Racing, is it something you physically worked

:41:59. > :42:03.on to give us that kind of entertainment? At Red Bull more

:42:04. > :42:10.people are watching Bottas it is for the fans, really. -- more people are

:42:11. > :42:14.watching. It was in the past I was criticised for, not being tough

:42:15. > :42:20.enough or decisive enough with my moves. Having confidence in the car

:42:21. > :42:26.helps. This year I have got that. Stepping up. It feels good. It is a

:42:27. > :42:30.joy to watch, the fans love you, we are hoping you. You have to go,

:42:31. > :42:35.thank you and congratulations. Let's hear from Daniel's team-mate, here

:42:36. > :42:39.is Sebastian Vettel. Tell us about your race, was it stopping only for

:42:40. > :42:45.those tyres that cost you in the end? For sure. The fact that for

:42:46. > :42:50.some reason... We were not able to look after the tyres as much as we

:42:51. > :42:53.wanted. Can you sum up how you are feeling about this season, how

:42:54. > :42:57.different it is from the last few seasons you have had, is it

:42:58. > :43:03.frustrating but, frustrating... I love what I do but I am here to win.

:43:04. > :43:08.-- is it frustrating? Not happy when you finish fourth, fifth, sixth, the

:43:09. > :43:11.target is to get back up but the gap is quite big for the cars in front.

:43:12. > :43:17.We have to work hard to close it again. On my side, we had... Some

:43:18. > :43:21.difficulties we had to go through. In the end, I believe it can make us

:43:22. > :43:27.stronger if we are able to learn from them. Daniel was on eight laps

:43:28. > :43:30.newer tires than you were. It can't ever be nice seeing your team-mate

:43:31. > :43:35.passing you. It is something you have not been used to over the

:43:36. > :43:39.years. Well, I mean, as I said, I think in terms of strategy we

:43:40. > :43:41.years. Well, I mean, as I said, I to get the McLarens. We went

:43:42. > :43:45.aggressive. With hindsight it is always easy. All in all, it was more

:43:46. > :43:51.or less what we could do today in terms of points.

:43:52. > :43:57.A slightly subdued Sebastian Vettel as Valtteri Bottas joined us.

:43:58. > :44:01.Congratulations today. What a race. You look a little bit... Like you're

:44:02. > :44:08.in shock. Can we take you back to the start of the race because no one

:44:09. > :44:17.seems to know what happened. Are you going to show it? Yes, but you can

:44:18. > :44:22.tell us before. Here it is. I had a lot of wheel spin. Initially, when I

:44:23. > :44:25.dropped the first panel, immediately, I broke the traction

:44:26. > :44:33.and never could really recover until I was in fifth year or something. --

:44:34. > :44:39.fifth gear. That was the point which made the race a difficult. Was it a

:44:40. > :44:44.clutch problem? I think we were a bit too aggressive with the clutch

:44:45. > :44:47.today and that was the main issue. But the practice start in the

:44:48. > :44:55.formation lap was also, mice because of Lewis Hamilton because he had a

:44:56. > :44:58.very slow getaway. You gave us some great entertainment coming back

:44:59. > :45:01.through the field, Alonso and Raikkonen, so as rust red in as your

:45:02. > :45:06.start must have been, this must have been great, getting in amongst it

:45:07. > :45:10.and showing your racing. I did enjoy it but I would rather have started

:45:11. > :45:14.well and had the opportunity to challenge Mercedes. That was the

:45:15. > :45:19.mentality I went with in the race. Of course it is a bit disappointing,

:45:20. > :45:23.but I mean, it is really good that we finally

:45:24. > :45:27.but I mean, it is really good that cars. Felipe on the podium for the

:45:28. > :45:31.first time in the season is good. It has just been announced that he will

:45:32. > :45:34.be in the team with him next year so it gives you the chance to get on

:45:35. > :45:38.and design the car and with Pat Symonds there, you must be buzzing

:45:39. > :45:43.with excitement, not just for the rest of this year but particularly

:45:44. > :45:48.next year. Yes, I am happy with that because I know as a team, we have

:45:49. > :45:56.not peaked. We are definitely going the right way. I think next year

:45:57. > :45:58.will be better. The way I see things working at the factory, how the race

:45:59. > :46:02.team is working, we are getting better and better so I am really

:46:03. > :46:06.confident that we can do good things together next year. I am

:46:07. > :46:10.particularly impressed with how disappointed you are by not being on

:46:11. > :46:14.the podium. That is a sign of the confidence and the spirit in the

:46:15. > :46:16.team. You are being too hard on yourself because you showed your

:46:17. > :46:21.racing skills which is the final piece in the jigsaw, the make-up of

:46:22. > :46:26.a driver. You have delivered great speed and shown you can do the wheel

:46:27. > :46:28.to stuff. You can be how you want to be but you should not be too

:46:29. > :46:33.disappointed because it was great entertainment. And also in a very

:46:34. > :46:35.calm way, when something happens to you at the start and it puts you on

:46:36. > :46:38.the back foot, you you at the start and it puts you on

:46:39. > :46:43.panic but do you panic inside was to mock you seem quite methodical.

:46:44. > :46:47.There is no point panicking, there's 53 laps to go and the worst thing to

:46:48. > :46:54.do is to panic. Then you would crash on the next corner. I think that is

:46:55. > :46:59.quite obvious. LAUGHTER Quite obvious but Finnish drivers

:47:00. > :47:03.just seem to be calmer. Sometimes it is hard to control panic when you

:47:04. > :47:07.make an error but you don't seem to have that problem. Should we let him

:47:08. > :47:15.into our little secret? I would like to hear it. We have just left Daniel

:47:16. > :47:20.and now you are here, I said if I had my team again, you too would be

:47:21. > :47:23.my first target. Treat it as a condiment or negative, I'm not sure

:47:24. > :47:28.but that is what would have happened. Cool! Thanks for the

:47:29. > :47:34.terrific entertainment today. Excellent job. Let's move on to

:47:35. > :47:38.McLaren and get the thought of Jenson Button. I think Sergio Perez

:47:39. > :47:41.makes up quite a lot of the story of your day, losing a place to him on

:47:42. > :47:46.the pit stop but the Ontrack battle has made everyone smile at home. Was

:47:47. > :47:50.it enjoyable for you? Yes, but he seemed to have me covered every time

:47:51. > :47:53.I tried to overtake. He drove very well, a very clean fight. I'm not

:47:54. > :47:57.sure we could have done that last year. It was good fun racing with

:47:58. > :48:02.him. He's a good lad and he drove really well. I tried many times to

:48:03. > :48:06.overtake him. But on the braking, I really struggled. It seemed he could

:48:07. > :48:09.break really late and every time I tried, I locked up. It was on a

:48:10. > :48:13.knife edge and it made it difficult to get it done but I thought I had

:48:14. > :48:18.when he cut the chicane. But he did not get a penalty for that. Great

:48:19. > :48:21.race, and a lot of the other cars out there as well but we seemed to

:48:22. > :48:25.struggle to overtake and the braking, whereas others could pick

:48:26. > :48:29.us off easily. You mentioned racing with Sergio last year and I know

:48:30. > :48:32.sometimes you thought he was too aggressive. The stewards have been

:48:33. > :48:38.thinking that about Kevin today, and in the last race. As a slightly

:48:39. > :48:41.older driver with more experience, and a former world champion, can you

:48:42. > :49:04.give Kevin advice? Do you speak to him? As his team-mate, I won't have

:49:05. > :49:07.a bad word said about him! It is not for me to comment. As a team mate, I

:49:08. > :49:10.went a bad word said about him! All I can say is I enjoy the battles

:49:11. > :49:12.today. Interesting thoughts on Kevin Magnussen? The actual incident,

:49:13. > :49:15.which the stewards gave the penalty for, you have got track position and

:49:16. > :49:18.you can battle it out between you. I think it is more concerning, for

:49:19. > :49:25.me, the late movement at very high speed. This new regulation for this

:49:26. > :49:28.year, where they can apply five seconds, is much fairer than a

:49:29. > :49:32.drive-through penalty. He was still able to score points but he was

:49:33. > :49:37.pegged back a bit. He will have to take it on the chin. I am sure it is

:49:38. > :49:40.frustrating for him to see older drivers and other people criticising

:49:41. > :49:47.but at the end of the lake, the stewards are there to enforce very

:49:48. > :49:51.clear regular nations about a change of direction in front of another

:49:52. > :49:53.driver. It has to be done before the braking zone, in a manner which

:49:54. > :49:58.gives him time to react. Lets remind people what you are talking about.

:49:59. > :50:03.This is where Valtteri Bottas runs off the chicane but Kevin Magnussen

:50:04. > :50:08.is slightly ahead and goes to the apex. He leaned a bit, but for me,

:50:09. > :50:12.that is part of wheel-to-wheel action. It is the timing of the

:50:13. > :50:16.manoeuvres which ultimately is what the penalty has been applied for.

:50:17. > :50:22.You could argue that the stewards might have used the fact that three

:50:23. > :50:28.but as was slightly ahead. Eddie Izzard king his head. What is your

:50:29. > :50:35.view? Two I have seen it a couple of times and I think five seconds was

:50:36. > :50:39.harsh. It was a racing incident. In my opinion, it is up to about rebut

:50:40. > :50:42.us to make a clean pass. It was going to be tight but was it worthy

:50:43. > :50:48.of a 5 second penalty? We have to make sure we don't remove

:50:49. > :50:55.wheel-to-wheel racing. I don't think it fits the punishment fits the

:50:56. > :50:56.crime. It is too severe. The thing that is more concerning is the late

:50:57. > :51:09.movement. I believe it was the president of

:51:10. > :51:18.the stewards, he is not someone to hand out penalties willy-nilly. He

:51:19. > :51:29.has had a futile war then his day. -- a few stumbles.

:51:30. > :51:35.Too tough on the youngster, let's find out what he thinks. What an

:51:36. > :51:40.incredible start it was. You must have known there would be pressure

:51:41. > :51:46.coming from the guys behind you. A lot of pressure the whole place.

:51:47. > :51:51.Good start. Nice to be at the front for a while. In the end,

:51:52. > :51:57.disappointing not to get more than one point. Tell us about the move,

:51:58. > :52:00.do you think it was fair, you got a 5 second penalty added after the

:52:01. > :52:05.race. It doesn't matter if I think it is fair, it makes no difference.

:52:06. > :52:09.Your body language language would suggest that you did not do that --

:52:10. > :52:14.body language. How have the last few weekends been? They have been

:52:15. > :52:19.great, I have improved and the car is improving. I am ready positive

:52:20. > :52:22.and happy about this process. We're not fighting for a championship, we

:52:23. > :52:24.are fighting for position in the Constructors' Championship, with

:52:25. > :52:28.Force India. Right now, we are just getting back

:52:29. > :52:36.and try to improve. That is what Kevin thought,

:52:37. > :52:42.interesting, we will come back to that in a moment. Daniil has just

:52:43. > :52:48.joined us, a hairy moment for you, what was going through your mind? I

:52:49. > :52:51.cannot say these kind of words. LAUGHTER

:52:52. > :52:56.I said it on the radio, I don't think they will show it. One of the

:52:57. > :53:02.discs failed. It was not a nice moment, to is disappointing because

:53:03. > :53:08.we work catching the top eight -- it was disappointing. I was preparing

:53:09. > :53:13.my attack for Kimi Raikkonen. In the end, I managed to control it. Great

:53:14. > :53:17.avoiding action. I was disappointed at that moment.

:53:18. > :53:24.Your skills have gone hugely up in my estimation. It was a fabulous

:53:25. > :53:28.save. You kept the car together, you did not owe the break and you let

:53:29. > :53:32.the car take its natural progression and yet keep it under control, a

:53:33. > :53:37.sensational piece of driving. Thanks a lot. I like rallying sometimes.

:53:38. > :53:44.LAUGHTER We can see. It did look like the

:53:45. > :53:48.save of the season, you got the sense of the speed in that shot. How

:53:49. > :53:51.are you feeling at Toro Rosso? You have been impressive this year. You

:53:52. > :53:55.came in and not many people knew that much about you. Do you feel

:53:56. > :54:00.this season has gone well for you so far? Yes, especially after the

:54:01. > :54:06.summer break. We had two very consistent races. Monza was very

:54:07. > :54:10.consistent. Even though we had the penalty, we had a really strong

:54:11. > :54:11.comeback. After this kind of race, to realise we have not

:54:12. > :54:17.comeback. After this kind of race, points is a pity. We deserved a lot

:54:18. > :54:23.more than the 11 today. Toro Rosso have proven a very good feeder team

:54:24. > :54:26.to the main team. When you look at Sebastian Vettel and Daniel

:54:27. > :54:30.Ricciardo doing an amazing job. One eye on trying to make that same

:54:31. > :54:34.progression? Absolutely. I find myself very well at Toro Rosso, they

:54:35. > :54:39.have helped me a lot. Learning more and more in the process, it becomes

:54:40. > :54:43.automatic. Now I can focus on the driving, fighting with other guys. I

:54:44. > :54:50.don't feel like I need to learn some big bits. Only bits and pieces. It

:54:51. > :54:55.is going to come together. I hope we can really progress. How appropriate

:54:56. > :55:00.will it be and emotional will it be for you to drive in your home

:55:01. > :55:05.country in a couple of races time? It is going to be cool, I think. For

:55:06. > :55:08.every driver, having a home Grand Prix is special. For me it will be

:55:09. > :55:13.special. But the race itself will not change at. All it will be the

:55:14. > :55:17.same approach. We will try our best -- at all. We will try to make the

:55:18. > :55:21.best out of the situation. I hope the track will suit our car and

:55:22. > :55:26.myself as we can get a result, that is the only thing I am concerned

:55:27. > :55:29.about. Daniil, thank you very much, we do not want to take any more of

:55:30. > :55:34.your time, I will take your microphone, congratulations. Well

:55:35. > :55:37.saved. We were sitting together, watching that race and you did

:55:38. > :55:45.scream out, when that happened to Daniil. What an incredible save and

:55:46. > :55:49.what good skills he has. To be fair, the car ran in a way that allowed

:55:50. > :55:53.him to pick it up, but at the same time that is a matter of how you

:55:54. > :55:58.touch the steering wheel. He has great feel. It was clearly evident.

:55:59. > :56:01.You can't imagine how quickly... Breaking from 220 miles an hour,

:56:02. > :56:09.think about that at home, 220 miles an hour. Trying to avoid all sorts

:56:10. > :56:12.of materials. So close. And a couple of the marshals hanging out at the

:56:13. > :56:17.side, that was the save of the century, a fabulous new, top-class

:56:18. > :56:20.driving. He has done very well. We are going down the paddock to Force

:56:21. > :56:25.India to see if we can find anyone to talk to. The boy has some skills.

:56:26. > :56:30.The downside of them arriving so young from GP three, so young, we

:56:31. > :56:34.don't know much about them. It is the same sort of thing with Max

:56:35. > :56:39.Verstappen coming in as his team-mate, next year, 17 years old.

:56:40. > :56:43.With a lot of other drivers we have had time, Alonso, Button, coming up,

:56:44. > :56:47.time to get to know them. To see how they can position themselves. They

:56:48. > :56:51.seem to appear from nowhere. He is properly not at all surprised he is

:56:52. > :56:55.doing a great job. Somewhat surprising how strong he is with the

:56:56. > :56:57.limited experience. There was a lot of who are, when he came in. Don't

:56:58. > :57:03.stop walking. I was of who are, when he came in. Don't

:57:04. > :57:08.thought was a promotional scam. You did, didn't you? You are quite

:57:09. > :57:10.negative. It was a marketing exploitation, moving into

:57:11. > :57:13.negative. It was a marketing market that had not been hit before

:57:14. > :57:19.but he has been superb. I have a question for David, am I allowed? Of

:57:20. > :57:22.course. What is going to happen to be expensive, more experienced

:57:23. > :57:27.drivers when you now see what these younger, inexpensive drivers are

:57:28. > :57:35.able to do. Is there time over? I have an answer. You may. The driver

:57:36. > :57:38.market is changing. The cost and the salaries for the more expensive

:57:39. > :57:47.drivers is clearly going to go down. Sergio... A proper racer.

:57:48. > :57:51.Let's talk about that in a minute. That was a very entertaining race

:57:52. > :57:54.and a busy one for your good self. It was really, really nice. I was

:57:55. > :58:02.enjoying it. I enjoyed the fight. But the rest of it was very tense,

:58:03. > :58:08.the race was very tense. All the time under pressure. It was more

:58:09. > :58:11.that I was under pressure than when I was pressuring someone. You

:58:12. > :58:19.imagine the whole race under pressure. In the end, we got a great

:58:20. > :58:21.result. Once again, no, we maximised the full potential of the car, that

:58:22. > :58:26.is something that keeps me very happy. It seemed to me you are

:58:27. > :58:29.managing if you are managing a fuel issue early on, did you have to use

:58:30. > :58:32.more fuel at the beginning? Is that what we were hearing with the

:58:33. > :58:37.engineer talking to you were asking for more power? I was running out of

:58:38. > :58:41.power with the deployment and the energy, which is a bit complicated

:58:42. > :58:46.to go into detail. Basically, I was losing power on the back straight.

:58:47. > :58:51.After downing two Parabolica, a long straight. Jenson was getting crows

:58:52. > :58:56.and at parabolic, he was getting close -- was getting close. Into my

:58:57. > :59:00.DRS. That is why I did not want to switch the fuel down, I wanted

:59:01. > :59:03.power. Absolutely incredible action, let's have a look at the moves.

:59:04. > :59:08.Let's remind ourselves of top racing.

:59:09. > :59:14.Dan in two Parabolica, talk us through what you were planning as

:59:15. > :59:19.you were going into your choir -- down into. Getting slipstream?

:59:20. > :59:24.Parabolica was very difficult. It was not very quick. Out of the exit.

:59:25. > :59:31.I knew Jenson was next to me, I tried to not move, I tried to keep

:59:32. > :59:35.my life. I knew Jenson was going to do the move, I tried to get him in

:59:36. > :59:41.the next corner. Talking about Jenson, you said he would not be

:59:42. > :59:44.able to race like this nasty, was that an inference to the fact that

:59:45. > :59:51.you were a touch while that in those days -- like this, last year. He was

:59:52. > :59:58.very, mentoring, by the way. It was a compliment. -- he was very, entry.

:59:59. > :00:01.It was both. Back at McLaren,... I'm insured. -- he was very,

:00:02. > :00:11.Jenson and myself had a great fight today. We had a good fight in

:00:12. > :00:16.Bahrain. A year ago. We had a couple of good fights. Jenson is someone

:00:17. > :00:23.you can race like this. To the limit. That is really good. Before

:00:24. > :00:28.us and the fans, they need this. They do, everybody loves watching

:00:29. > :00:31.incredible racing. Sergio, when you left McLaren last year, you seemed

:00:32. > :00:35.disappointed. Force India this year, it has been good for you, how are

:00:36. > :00:37.you feeling with being with Force India? I am happy with the team.

:00:38. > :00:48.They had given me good support. You, I have to say I am happy to get

:00:49. > :00:53.my career back on track -- yeah, I have to say. Force India gave me a

:00:54. > :00:56.great opportunity. Once I found out about the news with McLaren quite

:00:57. > :01:02.late in the season. There was not much time to prepare. I signed my

:01:03. > :01:06.contract at the end of December. In January, I was testing. I met the

:01:07. > :01:10.whole team while testing. In the third race I got on the podium. It

:01:11. > :01:18.has been a great race, I have to say. Great year. I am happy to bid

:01:19. > :01:22.my career back on track. I want to get on top of it -- put my career.

:01:23. > :01:30.We can't help but notice the huge number of Mexicans here this

:01:31. > :01:34.weekend, why is that? Is Formula One fever happening in Mexico for future

:01:35. > :01:41.Grand Prix? Of course, Mexico, you went there a long time ago. Not so

:01:42. > :01:45.long, please. LAUGHTER The energy of the people back home

:01:46. > :01:49.is great. You see a lot of Mexicans in Italy, which is very far. You see

:01:50. > :01:53.Mexicans all around the world, it is something that motivates me. I want

:01:54. > :01:58.to do the best. Especially next year, we are going to my home

:01:59. > :02:03.country. I want to go to the top step in my Formula One career. There

:02:04. > :02:07.is no answer to that, is there? We have a Mexican winning the home

:02:08. > :02:11.Launchbury in the first season of the return to the Mexican Grand Prix

:02:12. > :02:13.would not be opposed by anybody -- home Launchbury. We would love to

:02:14. > :02:22.see it happen -- home Launchbury. Great racing. Much appreciated. I

:02:23. > :02:27.will take that. Excellent. Thank you. We can finish the conversation.

:02:28. > :02:33.He was enjoying that, he wanted to stay. It is all the young guys. They

:02:34. > :02:37.want to stay with us. It is the old guys that don't watch too, now show.

:02:38. > :02:43.Remember those older guys, David? -- what to come on our show. I am one

:02:44. > :02:47.of them. Today was all about the race winner, Lewis Hamilton.

:02:48. > :02:52.Huge congratulations, when we spoke last night for the BBC, you said how

:02:53. > :02:56.important it was to win this Grand Prix. To get a grip back on this

:02:57. > :03:01.championship after a difficult start. You did it. Today was another

:03:02. > :03:07.hard day. But I loved every minute of it, to be honest. When you have

:03:08. > :03:11.those issues, particularly knowing how quickly go would be and the

:03:12. > :03:15.position I was, I thought I would never be able to catch it back but

:03:16. > :03:20.you can't let it sink too deep into your thoughts. You have to think I

:03:21. > :03:24.can do it. What was the problem at the start? A button that we press

:03:25. > :03:31.which engages, everyone has it, which engages a laundromat. --

:03:32. > :03:37.launch map. When you stop, you select gear and then you accelerate

:03:38. > :03:42.a bit. The RPM, the programme, the map, helps to control the RPM. Let

:03:43. > :03:46.the clutch out and then do the perfect start. It wasn't working. I

:03:47. > :03:50.pressed it for the formation that, didn't work, I pulled away. I

:03:51. > :03:55.thought it would work the next time but it didn't. I had to floor it and

:03:56. > :03:59.I nailed it. Wheel spinning on the spot. Everybody got a much better

:04:00. > :04:04.start, but I was grateful I was able to not lose very many places. Your

:04:05. > :04:09.engineers wanted to play the safe, long game, wait, they told you to

:04:10. > :04:12.keep 2.5 seconds back off Nico. You wanted to do your own thing, you

:04:13. > :04:15.were the one in the car and ultimately it worked. You

:04:16. > :04:20.pressurised Nico into a mistake, it looks like. I really wanted to shed

:04:21. > :04:23.some light on it. I have a great team of people that work with me

:04:24. > :04:30.during the race. They give me advice. They guide me. It is advice,

:04:31. > :04:34.it is not that you have to do this. It is for us to work together, they

:04:35. > :04:50.that and decide how I utilise it. I that and decide how I utilise it. I

:04:51. > :04:54.come on. I was certain of it. In the first instance I caught up but the

:04:55. > :04:58.tyres were old, sliding all over the place. I could not get close enough.

:04:59. > :05:02.I knew that would be the best time to do it. I did it a couple of races

:05:03. > :05:09.ago. Did not seem to like it. I will try to do this.

:05:10. > :05:14.We spoke about race talent and mental toughness and you applied all

:05:15. > :05:18.that and now the gap is 22 points, essentially a race win if Snicko

:05:19. > :05:21.does not finish. There's a long way to go but one step at a time. The

:05:22. > :05:26.support I have had from the fans come here, and building up to this,

:05:27. > :05:30.and my family has been incredible. I am going to take that energy and try

:05:31. > :05:35.to move forward in the same way. Do you feel you have got the control in

:05:36. > :05:39.the championship that you lack through qualifying in the last few

:05:40. > :05:43.races? I don't know. We will see in the next race but I will take it as

:05:44. > :05:47.it comes. You never know what will happen. Today, I still had a problem

:05:48. > :05:50.but to be successful with that problem is a great feeling, even

:05:51. > :05:56.more empowering than starting from pole position and just winning. I am

:05:57. > :06:03.still looking for that weekend when you don't have any problems.

:06:04. > :06:04.Congratulations. There was a time in that race where you just thought,

:06:05. > :06:10."good grief, what has he that race where you just thought,

:06:11. > :06:14.to get the lock on his side? " That is why this is that an exceptional

:06:15. > :06:15.performance. I know Eddie has a slightly different view on how Nico

:06:16. > :06:18.will be feeling tonight slightly different view on how Nico

:06:19. > :06:21.don't normally see someone dropping position and then racing back and

:06:22. > :06:26.overcoming their team-mate on a track which we said was difficult to

:06:27. > :06:30.overtake on. We knew strategy was always going to be 1-stop, the

:06:31. > :06:34.primary way of doing it and he just applied pressure, build the

:06:35. > :06:38.pressure. It is interesting for me particularly as an old driver,

:06:39. > :06:41.knowing how the pressure feels. When you are chipping away at catching

:06:42. > :06:44.someone, you can afford to take risks with nothing to lose. When you

:06:45. > :06:46.are at the head of the field, travelling at that speed, this

:06:47. > :06:47.are at the head of the field, the most difficult circuit to break

:06:48. > :07:01.and get right. Mistake, once in one corner.

:07:02. > :07:04.you surprised he made two mistakes? In the same place, and in fairness,

:07:05. > :07:06.you surprised he made two mistakes? we saw Lewis locking up and

:07:07. > :07:11.potentially flat spotting his tyres later but crucially, he made the

:07:12. > :07:14.corner. It seemed that Lewis is playing the long game as well, when

:07:15. > :07:18.he was talking, not hoping for something to happen to Nico, some

:07:19. > :07:23.bad luck. He is just thinking about chipping away at the points. He can

:07:24. > :07:27.do no more than drive the wheels off the car. We need to reflect and we

:07:28. > :07:29.will do later in the year, on how his season was pieced together. But

:07:30. > :07:34.he has not had as much luck his season was pieced together. But

:07:35. > :07:37.comes to reliability. He may have made the odd error of judgement in

:07:38. > :07:40.qualifying but he has won the psychological battle and he is

:07:41. > :07:46.winning the battle with the bands. His popularity is as high as I have

:07:47. > :07:50.ever seen it. -- with the fans. If you take the view that winning is

:07:51. > :07:53.everything and nothing else matters, Nico is in pole position to win the

:07:54. > :07:59.championship. But there is a long way to go. You just sense that this

:08:00. > :08:04.could be the comeback of the season. Don't jinx it! We are at the

:08:05. > :08:08.business end. Allan Little issues with us, and we had a couple of

:08:09. > :08:13.incidents today for the stewards to get their teeth into. What did you

:08:14. > :08:14.think of them? Two they were quite difficult because there were two

:08:15. > :08:19.incidents that stood out, the difficult because there were two

:08:20. > :08:25.where Kevin Magnussen was told that he caused a collision. He moved

:08:26. > :08:29.Valtteri Bottas of the circuit. Valtteri Bottas is on the outside

:08:30. > :08:34.and he is clearly ahead but as Magnusson has got the inside line,

:08:35. > :08:37.he is not taking the ideal line, you have to say, Valtteri Bottas has

:08:38. > :08:44.jumped over. I think, looking at it from that perspective, it is harsh.

:08:45. > :08:48.It is on the limit whether it was an incident. Would you have given it?

:08:49. > :08:54.It is difficult but what I did say was that Kevin Magnussen was moving

:08:55. > :08:59.a lot in the braking areas. This was another incident involving Jenson

:09:00. > :09:02.Button and Sergio Perez, exactly the same as the previous one. But I

:09:03. > :09:06.think the reason that Jenson Button did not get anything is because he

:09:07. > :09:11.basically gained the position but lost it by the time he was a couple

:09:12. > :09:17.of corners along. For me, they were exactly the same. This is another

:09:18. > :09:25.one, a couple of guys squeezing but when it is 225 mph, down to 70 mph,

:09:26. > :09:31.in 150 metres, you will always get these situations. From the

:09:32. > :09:35.stewards' perspective, there for macro, and Derek, the drivers'

:09:36. > :09:39.Stuart, is one voice in four so it is not necessarily what he feels but

:09:40. > :09:43.he does have a strong opinion. They want them to race and have a better

:09:44. > :09:47.rating feel and we saw that a bit better in the last couple of Grands

:09:48. > :09:52.Prix. The Kevin Magnussen one is more for the movement, just before

:09:53. > :09:57.the braking zone. That is what David said. More than the incident itself.

:09:58. > :10:02.Allen, agreeing with you and Eddie has found the Williams Deputy team

:10:03. > :10:06.principal, Claire Williams. Look at the smile on your face, three great

:10:07. > :10:10.things happen today, they announced the same drivers for next year, they

:10:11. > :10:15.finished on the podium, and they are 15 points in third place ahead of

:10:16. > :10:22.Ferrari. In that order, which is the best? All of them but my favourite

:10:23. > :10:26.is my team. They do such an amazing job. I am so pleased, overriding the

:10:27. > :10:30.four Felipe, to get on the podium after such a run of bad luck is

:10:31. > :10:35.great for him. Everyone did a great job today. It was textbook. Credit

:10:36. > :10:42.to Valtteri Bottas as well because he had a terrible start but showed

:10:43. > :10:46.his talent which vindicated this morning's announcement that we have

:10:47. > :10:49.a great driver pairing. How do you approach next year? You are thinking

:10:50. > :10:54.about it already. Do you stick with the current car and think about next

:10:55. > :10:59.year's car? You have a little bundle of goals, a fabulous car. It is

:11:00. > :11:04.great and we are so pleased with it but we won't stop thinking about the

:11:05. > :11:12.FW 36. We have got to consolidate third place in the championship.

:11:13. > :11:15.Thrilled and I can say this on British TV, I had to apologise to

:11:16. > :11:19.Italian TV for taking Ferrari's podium place but we have to

:11:20. > :11:24.consolidate. We have more development coming this year and

:11:25. > :11:29.next year is an evolution. I'm pleased we have a great baseline to

:11:30. > :11:33.work on. You had the Chairman and Chief Executive of the sponsors here

:11:34. > :11:37.today, a good little trick that you pulled off. That was the plan, as I

:11:38. > :11:40.said to Pat Symonds earlier, we had 200 guests this weekend, and for

:11:41. > :11:44.them to see Williams doing so when they put their faith is us is hugely

:11:45. > :11:48.important. We rely on our partners and we are lucky that we have a

:11:49. > :11:54.great community backing us. we love listening to you, being part of it

:11:55. > :12:01.and we want to say thank you to Suzi . Claire Williams, smiling and no

:12:02. > :12:18.wonder. Let's confirm today's result:

:12:19. > :12:26.In terms of the championship, the top three remain the same, with

:12:27. > :12:28.Hamilton closing the gap by seven points. Valtteri Bottas has gone

:12:29. > :12:34.ahead of Fernando Alonso, and Jenson Button has jumped over Nico

:12:35. > :12:39.Hulkenberg into seven. The constructors chavvy chip, just the

:12:40. > :12:44.one move, as Williams take the coveted third place. --

:12:45. > :12:48.Constructors' Championship. They are just a bit ahead of Ferrari, now.

:12:49. > :12:52.Thank you for doing that interview with Claire Williams. No wonder she

:12:53. > :12:56.was happy because this is what they want. She was beaming, I can't tell

:12:57. > :13:00.you how excited she was and I can feel it. When you come to Monza, we

:13:01. > :13:04.have had results here and we know what it means to a British team to

:13:05. > :13:07.come here and take on the might of Ferrari in particular but then you

:13:08. > :13:12.have to talk about Mercedes, a fabulous result in every way than

:13:13. > :13:16.them. It is a real statement. They put the matter off the table and

:13:17. > :13:21.they have made a strong statement. But such a disappointing day for

:13:22. > :13:26.Ferrari. Not at all what the fans expect and the president expects,

:13:27. > :13:30.and with the great history the team has, the longest serving member of

:13:31. > :13:33.the Formula One community. They have lost their way. They are not

:13:34. > :13:38.performing. They will be planning a comeback, that is the shore. But

:13:39. > :13:42.even if somehow, in a dream situation, they could have picked up

:13:43. > :13:44.a podium finish today, but with Fernando having a technical issue,

:13:45. > :13:50.there was no way they were going to be quick enough to take on the might

:13:51. > :13:54.of the Mercedes powered cars. It is a surprise. Are you surprised? I'm

:13:55. > :13:58.always surprised. I think they have had a really grim year, I'm not

:13:59. > :14:04.surprised because the car is not good enough. Terrific race and we

:14:05. > :14:07.will be back in a fortnight in Singapore. We will be with you in

:14:08. > :14:09.the early evening for all of the highlights and you can watch more of

:14:10. > :14:16.this and we will have Nico Rosberg to talk to on the red button show

:14:17. > :14:22.and it goes a bit like this. Do you understand it? Sometimes. You need

:14:23. > :14:28.the F1 Forum, straight after the show, just press the red button for

:14:29. > :14:32.even more F1. It is free. Are you crazy? We might just be. It allows

:14:33. > :14:36.us to look behind-the-scenes and allows us more interviews and time

:14:37. > :14:44.to have fun. It is difficult to be sure what will happen. It is

:14:45. > :14:51.different. Reyes Sokol. Not bad at all. F1 Forum, on the red button?

:14:52. > :14:55.Will you join us? Absolutely. We will have Nico and Felipe in the red

:14:56. > :14:58.button show. Heartbreak for Ferrari today but not for the Lewis
