:00:15. > :00:21.Previously on Formula 1... That is not running smoothly. This is

:00:22. > :01:38.Formula One, race two, Malaysia. Oh, these sound and the Fury. All

:01:39. > :01:46.those changes. What else might change now that we are racing? Who

:01:47. > :01:59.is out and who is back in? Where was the noise? The noise in Formula One

:02:00. > :02:08.has gone. Here yourself think, unheard of. The noise of 130,000 in

:02:09. > :02:16.Sepang should do the trick. Malaysia, where the rain can poor

:02:17. > :02:24.and raw and the clashes can be loud. In this noise, sometimes you

:02:25. > :02:29.can think straight. Round 2 in the great year of change. Not so quiet

:02:30. > :02:41.after all. Here is to sound and purity, all right. -- fury. There he

:02:42. > :02:49.is, Eddie Jordan. He will be back with us in Barcelona. Until then, it

:02:50. > :02:55.is me and him. He is completely mad. I am looking forward to him being

:02:56. > :03:03.back in pass alone will stop it is about 33 degrees and the track is

:03:04. > :03:09.hitting 50. Apologies if we do start to glow a little bit. Thank you for

:03:10. > :03:16.joining us. We are live for the duration. You can't treat us or send

:03:17. > :03:22.us a message on Facebook using the BBC sport page. Sepang, Malaysia, I

:03:23. > :03:30.love this track. Lots of overtaking. How was it for you? This

:03:31. > :03:36.circuit is absolutely right. It is an early creation. There are good

:03:37. > :03:46.overtaking areas, especially down into the last corner and down into

:03:47. > :03:51.Turn 1. There are two key areas, turns five and six and 12 and 13.

:03:52. > :04:00.That is when you are driving the car on the edge. That is what the

:04:01. > :04:04.drivers love. I talked about it being 50 degrees. That will affect

:04:05. > :04:14.the drivers as well as the cars and everything else. The chemical

:04:15. > :04:18.reaction is what creates the grip. You can see them doing their

:04:19. > :04:23.practice stops. The interaction between the tyre and the tarmac is a

:04:24. > :04:28.really key element of getting the grip. You rarely bring four sets of

:04:29. > :04:35.different compounds for the season. We are on the too hard compounds. It

:04:36. > :04:41.is a big challenge. They changed the tyres last year. It is we had very

:04:42. > :04:50.changeable conditions over the last couple of days, the circuit is still

:04:51. > :04:57.relatively green. The weather is so changeable. Glorious conditions. 33

:04:58. > :05:05.degrees. Yesterday, it was a very different story. As I speak, a few

:05:06. > :05:15.spots of rain falling. And gentle. Normally it comes in a downpour. We

:05:16. > :05:23.are seriously now in a monsoon. Boy, have we got a thunderstorm this

:05:24. > :05:27.afternoon! It is impossible to see. When it rains, it really does Paul.

:05:28. > :05:41.It must be so difficult for the drivers. No window wipers on the

:05:42. > :05:49.help it -- on the helmets. They need to try to get first choice on the

:05:50. > :05:55.racetrack. What happens in terms of race position? If you cannot see

:05:56. > :06:00.anything, how do you know to break? You almost do it on timing. They

:06:01. > :06:07.have an intimate knowledge of the race track. A bit of a deal for it?

:06:08. > :06:11.In your home, if the lights go out, you know roughly where the door

:06:12. > :06:18.handle is. They are very focused on knowing where the braking points are

:06:19. > :06:23.in those conditions. The weather conditions can change very quickly.

:06:24. > :06:26.There are thunderstorms that are forecast. It has been a dramatic

:06:27. > :06:31.start to this year 's calendar so far. Not long to go until the next

:06:32. > :06:38.race. We are in Bahrain and then China.

:06:39. > :06:45.On the fifth and 6th of July, we come home to Silverstone. A couple

:06:46. > :06:51.of new events to add to the calendar. We are going to Austria

:06:52. > :06:59.and back to Russia with Sochi as the hosts. Double points for the final

:07:00. > :07:04.race. A fortnight ago, we had a strong cup of an opener in

:07:05. > :07:11.Melbourne. It was du Matic, controversial, especially if you

:07:12. > :07:19.were Daniel Ricciardo who thought he was on the podium. -- it was

:07:20. > :07:24.dramatic. The FIA had arrived the stewards Red Bull Racing there was

:07:25. > :07:30.an issue with the fuel flow meter and the amount of fuel they were

:07:31. > :07:34.using every lap. They use their own information. Stewards decided you

:07:35. > :07:39.had to use the fuel below meter and they were removed from the results.

:07:40. > :07:45.They bought themselves time and appealed. There will be an appeal

:07:46. > :07:51.after Bahrain and we will find out who is right. Does that mean Red

:07:52. > :07:58.Bull are in trouble for not listening to be directive given to

:07:59. > :08:02.them? The fuel flow meter is a standardised part which is supplied

:08:03. > :08:07.by a company in the UK and the FIA has approved that for use. They can

:08:08. > :08:13.do real-time scrutineers ring. They monitor that lap by lap. For every

:08:14. > :08:21.ten grams of fuel used, that is sent to the FIA. Everyone hundred kilos

:08:22. > :08:29.is about 1.78 kilos of fuel a lap you have available to you. It is to

:08:30. > :08:34.try to stop teams spending a lot of money on qualifying engines. They

:08:35. > :08:40.will still have a problem with the court hearing. They did not use too

:08:41. > :08:44.much fuel or they would have been thrown out for that. It is a

:08:45. > :08:52.technical directives they were given by the FIA and that is why it has

:08:53. > :08:57.gone to appeal. Let's have a look at how the championships stand

:08:58. > :09:15.currently, pending the appeal. Nico Rosberg leads the way.

:09:16. > :09:25.In terms of the constructors, McLaren are leading that fight.

:09:26. > :09:33.Williams have doubled the number of points they scored in the entire

:09:34. > :09:37.2013 season. Here is the story of qualifying. Qualifying was delayed

:09:38. > :09:48.by 15 minutes but conditions were still pretty tough and because

:09:49. > :09:56.eventually took to the circuit. The -- a red flag was brought out.

:09:57. > :10:09.Conditions did not improve and Daniil Kvyat collided into Fernando

:10:10. > :10:16.Alonso. Kevin Magnusson had an eventful time. -- Magnussen. There

:10:17. > :10:24.was damage to his car. In the third session, he went on intermediates

:10:25. > :10:29.and everyone else was on wets. Red Bull have made the comeback of the

:10:30. > :10:34.weekend. Sebastian Vettel was able to challenge for pole position. An

:10:35. > :10:46.unusual the stateless timing the lack meant -- burlap meant that

:10:47. > :10:50.Sebastian Vettel missed out on pole position. Nico Rosberg managed to

:10:51. > :10:57.displace Fernando Alonso to take third, the only driver to improve

:10:58. > :11:01.after the chequered flag. The day was Hamilton 's and he took his

:11:02. > :11:07.second pole position of the season. I just want to have a race and get

:11:08. > :11:16.an understanding for the tyre and the fuel saving on those things and

:11:17. > :11:22.get myself back into race mode. Lewis Hamilton 's 33rd pole position

:11:23. > :11:27.matches the British record. Nico Rosberg is third with Fernando

:11:28. > :11:34.Alonso fourth. Daniel Ricciardo is this ad has Kimi Raikkonen

:11:35. > :11:55.alongside. Kevin outqualified Jenson Button. Daniel to the act is in

:11:56. > :12:00.11th. -- Kvyat.. Valterri Bottas gets a three place grid penalty and

:12:01. > :12:09.becomes the first driver to pick up points on his licence after impeding

:12:10. > :12:15.the Red Bull. As Lee mentioned, you are looking at shots of Valterri

:12:16. > :12:24.Bottas who picked up a three place grid penalty. It seemed harsh. He

:12:25. > :12:30.got penalty points, which is what we get on A Road car licence. He will

:12:31. > :12:42.get two penalty points which he will carry for a year. Regulations state

:12:43. > :12:46.you can impede a car. It is all done very politely with the stewards.

:12:47. > :12:53.There is no bad blood between the drivers but you need to work

:12:54. > :13:00.together on a season. That is really unfortunate for Valterri Bottas. He

:13:01. > :13:05.got a grid penalty in the last race. Amazing yesterday. It was all

:13:06. > :13:11.about tyres and timing and sheer guts in positions like that. Let's

:13:12. > :13:17.go down here so we can have a look in the Mercedes garage. A terrific

:13:18. > :13:21.job that Ferrari did to get force. These mechanics are incredible. They

:13:22. > :13:31.understand the car intimately. They realised they had a problem with the

:13:32. > :13:37.track rod. There would have been a parts guy getting that exact part.

:13:38. > :13:43.Fernando has two trust that the mechanics have done the job

:13:44. > :13:49.properly. We have Nico Rosberg wondering up here with a bracelet.

:13:50. > :13:53.You never know what that is about. He gave a fantastic explanation of

:13:54. > :13:57.the powertrains like you have never seen before. We joined forces with

:13:58. > :14:08.him. It has been an outstanding

:14:09. > :14:19.performance, Nico Rosberg wins the Australian Grand Prix for Mercedes.

:14:20. > :14:37.Pay attention, here comes the science bit. The first thing is the

:14:38. > :14:46.collar? Very important. This is the first part. The professor will

:14:47. > :14:50.explain. This year, we have got much smaller combustion engines, so less

:14:51. > :14:57.horsepower, but we get that back with turbo. And turbo is just a

:14:58. > :15:02.little flywheel spinning through the air intake and pushing and

:15:03. > :15:08.compressing the air at higher speeds with a lot of pressure and adding

:15:09. > :15:13.more air into that space, giving the explosions so this is a very normal

:15:14. > :15:28.combustion engine. Small amounts of heat. And here comes the turbo. Very

:15:29. > :15:34.good. This is our turbo. You can see the effect of the combustion engine

:15:35. > :15:43.with lots more compressed air. Blowing red hot. Getting really

:15:44. > :15:47.hard. That is the best example. It gives you much more energy in that

:15:48. > :16:03.small engine we have. And that is more horsepower. Strange place to

:16:04. > :16:11.park the car? Indeed, to show the best, simplest way of explaining

:16:12. > :16:16.this functionality in my engine. We have the spinning wheel, this is the

:16:17. > :16:21.compressor, which makes the turbo engine, this part, with exhaust

:16:22. > :16:29.gases coming out of this small engine and the more rpm I get the

:16:30. > :16:35.faster the exhaust gases can spin this wheel and that will allow the

:16:36. > :16:42.explosions in the engine. Not only is that turbo engine running but

:16:43. > :16:48.this wheel is connected to a very small motor which will convert into

:16:49. > :16:55.electrical power, which is being charged. Keeps this turning. It is

:16:56. > :17:03.building more electrical battery power, which it is saving. If I put

:17:04. > :17:06.my foot on the throttle... It will massively charge up. It will get so

:17:07. > :17:30.much energy. If anyone forgets their charger, we

:17:31. > :17:44.know what to do. There is one more part. Let us take a look. We have

:17:45. > :17:51.come to the place which is one of the most serious parts. This is the

:17:52. > :17:57.way most of the battery charge is produced. I will go on full

:17:58. > :18:08.throttle. Yes? I am going down the straight. Ten mph. I come to the

:18:09. > :18:15.end. And full braking. I go onto the brakes. They are charging up

:18:16. > :18:21.quickly. And that is because there is a little motor connected to the

:18:22. > :18:27.engine. And it is turning very quickly and when I am braking, that

:18:28. > :18:32.boaters switches and decides to take all of that rotation speed and

:18:33. > :18:37.transform it into electricity to charge the batteries. I come out of

:18:38. > :18:42.the corner, back onto the throttle, and what happens then is the motor

:18:43. > :18:48.does the opposite. It uses up the battery energy. An incredible amount

:18:49. > :18:54.of technology, how different do the cars feel from your seat to drive?

:18:55. > :19:00.In terms of technology, it is released similar. More to do in the

:19:01. > :19:07.cockpit? There is a lot more, more systems to get used to but a lot of

:19:08. > :19:12.this is new. Do you feel that your engineering background helps you

:19:13. > :19:19.this year? My approach to the sport is I am interested in the technology

:19:20. > :19:26.and I want to look into it because I hope I can give myself an advantage

:19:27. > :19:32.over some others. Listen to Professor Nico, that is immoral of

:19:33. > :19:40.today. Pay attention in mathematics and physics classes. You could do

:19:41. > :19:45.worse than listening to his advice. Sitting very cool in the back of the

:19:46. > :19:51.garage. This is a great car that he was talking about. It brought him

:19:52. > :19:57.that win in Melbourne. He is such an interesting character. He has a real

:19:58. > :20:02.feel for engineering. He could have been in that garage as an engineer!

:20:03. > :20:08.He has the better job! He is intelligent, multilingual, keen

:20:09. > :20:14.interest in engineering. And that is a very simple way of explaining the

:20:15. > :20:25.technology. The way he thinks it will help, do you agree? Will it

:20:26. > :20:29.help? If you believe in knowledge as power, adding more knowledge of the

:20:30. > :20:35.vehicle you drive, you must understand aerodynamics, even if not

:20:36. > :20:39.how the car is delivering, you must understand how to exploit the way to

:20:40. > :20:44.transfer and these engines have to be managed by the driver. They have

:20:45. > :20:50.fuel flow limitations. So much going on. The driver has to think

:20:51. > :20:55.laterally and get his head around these technicalities. We are seeing

:20:56. > :21:03.Nico Hulkenberg blossoming. Much more personality. We saw yesterday,

:21:04. > :21:09.he has a Jurassic sense of humour. He is a very big character? He has

:21:10. > :21:19.been around for a few years and he has fired his place with Mercedes.

:21:20. > :21:30.Here's their poster boy. -- find. -- found. This formula is suiting him.

:21:31. > :21:38.We have seen him joking and smiling. The engines are starting up. We saw

:21:39. > :21:42.him just hanging out, normally the drivers would be in a very cool

:21:43. > :21:47.room, taking as much fluid as possible but he says, I am prepared,

:21:48. > :21:53.let us go racing. And kicking a football around. You can get the

:21:54. > :21:59.latest news from Tom. Much calmer than at Melbourne. Everybody is

:22:00. > :22:04.confident of making it to the grid, which is progress, but that does not

:22:05. > :22:09.mean stress levels are lower because of unknown factors. The wet

:22:10. > :22:16.qualifying means we have the free tyre choice. Medium or hard? What is

:22:17. > :22:23.the weather doing. Don't listen to me. I am joined by the Mercedes

:22:24. > :22:31.boss, Toto Wolff. What are the main factors? The weather. It is always

:22:32. > :22:36.very unpredictable. You can have a very big thunderstorm building up

:22:37. > :22:41.and 1.5 miles away there was a downpour. This is the most

:22:42. > :22:51.unpredictable variable. Let us assume it will be dry. Medium or

:22:52. > :23:02.hard? Probably medium. High was the chat with the drivers? What messages

:23:03. > :23:16.did you give? -- Howell was. -- how was four. Everybody is calm. Will

:23:17. > :23:21.one and three satisfy you? Winning the race would be the result we want

:23:22. > :23:24.to achieve but this is Formula One, the pinnacle of motorsport and you

:23:25. > :23:31.need to be satisfied with the best you can achieve. Good luck. We can

:23:32. > :23:42.make some pictures of Lewis Hamilton, his team-mate, wandering

:23:43. > :23:46.into the garage. What can they do? They have a huge advantage in the

:23:47. > :23:55.dry running. It was incredibly close in the wet qualifying but we will

:23:56. > :24:00.see them stretch their legs. What if it suddenly reigns? Without favour

:24:01. > :24:06.anybody? That would allow Red Bull to come back into the mix. Look at

:24:07. > :24:11.the on track performance, the middle sector, Red Bull can pull a lot of

:24:12. > :24:15.time back but they lose in the first and last, which is more about

:24:16. > :24:21.harnessing and using the energy available. Will they catch up? With

:24:22. > :24:27.the rest of the field catch Mercedes? There will inevitably be

:24:28. > :24:33.this bunching effect, especially in the middle. I do not see any big

:24:34. > :24:38.step to work Mercedes are, the pace on Friday, they still have a big

:24:39. > :24:45.advantage and they just need to manage that. They will not be out

:24:46. > :24:51.there trying to win by one lap. As Toto Wolff said, this is a grand

:24:52. > :24:59.prix and anybody can play their part. The first run into turn number

:25:00. > :25:06.one and number two. And we have seen many incidents, safety cars. I was

:25:07. > :25:11.thinking about Nico Hulkenberg, he is a master in the wet weather. He

:25:12. > :25:20.brings everything he has got. Lee McKenzie caught up with him. It has

:25:21. > :25:28.been a strong start in qualifying and in the races. You are managing

:25:29. > :25:34.to outperform the car you have got? We have a decent car. Otherwise I

:25:35. > :25:39.could not pitted where it is. But we have room for improvement and some

:25:40. > :25:44.cars are quicker but I feel confident and we have a strong

:25:45. > :25:50.foundation that we can build on and have a very strong development in

:25:51. > :25:55.the coming weeks and months. The weather here changes so quickly.

:25:56. > :26:01.What are we expecting? Are you set up for wet or dry? My car is

:26:02. > :26:07.neutral, it should perform in both conditions. I was fourth overall in

:26:08. > :26:11.the rankings and it was quite competitive in the wet. I hope it

:26:12. > :26:17.should not make much of a difference. And we will be

:26:18. > :26:25.competitive in either condition. Wet always spices things up. You thrive

:26:26. > :26:32.in those conditions. What is the aim today? Starting in the points,

:26:33. > :26:40.seventh place, we want to keep that as the minimum and we want to move

:26:41. > :26:46.up. But it will be very tough for the machine and human being. We have

:26:47. > :26:53.two survived that race. -- we have to survive. Keep cool. Nico

:26:54. > :27:00.Hulkenberg talking if you moments ago. We have some live shots of Nico

:27:01. > :27:11.Hulkenberg. There he is in his car. Interesting character. How important

:27:12. > :27:14.is this year? Sixth and seventh, finishing in sixth place in

:27:15. > :27:20.Melbourne. He wants to get with the big teams, is this season's

:27:21. > :27:24.performance of vital? I find it confusing he has not find his way

:27:25. > :27:29.into the top teams. His performance has been very high. He is continuing

:27:30. > :27:34.the trend and Force India, they have done a fantastic job with their

:27:35. > :27:39.resources, so in many ways it is a perfect fit. Having such a quick

:27:40. > :27:44.driver in a team that is constantly knocking on the big forgings. You

:27:45. > :27:58.want to be in a Championship winning team as a driver. -- for teams. --

:27:59. > :28:02.four. There is a minimum size that they have to be but it is the weight

:28:03. > :28:05.of the driver that gives an issue. There are so much complex technology

:28:06. > :28:10.in the cars that the weight limit has gone up by 41 kilos and any

:28:11. > :28:21.driver who was heavier, it will cost you one map. Jenson Button said were

:28:22. > :28:25.not allowed to eat, we are drivers. Jenson and Lewis Hamilton said some

:28:26. > :28:32.drivers are dehydrating themselves for the qualifying to be lighter and

:28:33. > :28:42.get a faster time. We see that, jockeys are a perfect example. It

:28:43. > :28:48.could be worrying. But it will not affect this morning. We did catch up

:28:49. > :29:05.with Jenson Button. We got up close and very personal. I am sweating.

:29:06. > :29:11.The public would like to know a little bit about Malaysia. Ten years

:29:12. > :29:18.ago, your first podium here. I was here in 2002. Benetton. Running in

:29:19. > :29:27.third with three laps to go. 2004, my first podium. And what a circuit.

:29:28. > :29:37.Awesome. This is one of the very first by the designer. So right, it

:29:38. > :29:41.has a lovely flow. Good overtaking. You are all right. That is top

:29:42. > :29:44.secret. That is McLaren. Not allowed. We have some new bits. You

:29:45. > :30:06.go first. My jeans are so tight! We have magically found ourselves

:30:07. > :30:12.down at the entry of Turn 1. What are we doing with this? The

:30:13. > :30:21.beautiful, colourful map of the Sepang circuit. Can we walk it to

:30:22. > :30:30.the corner? You are doing just under 200 miles an hour when you enter

:30:31. > :30:38.this. It would be more, probably 206 miles an hour. There you go! They

:30:39. > :30:50.are more slippery, less downforce and we have more power. Turn 1 is

:30:51. > :31:00.linked into two. It is an unusual circuit. We come through one. You

:31:01. > :31:09.have to set yourself up for turn to. There is a guy in green, he is not a

:31:10. > :31:18.pollard. It would be dangerous for him to be standing there. Traction

:31:19. > :31:23.is also tough. You were a past winner here in 2009. You did not get

:31:24. > :31:33.the full points because the race was stopped due to the weather. 4pm, 5pm

:31:34. > :31:39.is when the rain comes. Every single day there is a thunderstorm. There

:31:40. > :31:46.is a massive chance you will see rain joining the race. It is about

:31:47. > :31:51.when and how hard. It is fun for overtaking, and for racing and fun

:31:52. > :32:00.for trying to get the best out of the car in qualifying. This is 12.

:32:01. > :32:07.The corner does not get much credit for the speed, the challenge. When

:32:08. > :32:17.we had a lot of grip, this was flat. If you mess this up, you miss up

:32:18. > :32:22.turn 13 and 14 as well. You have 13 and all the way around their is the

:32:23. > :32:29.apex, which takes you all the way down the back straight. You have to

:32:30. > :32:38.push through here, even if it damages your tyres. There have been

:32:39. > :32:43.a lot of changes. So much has changed. For the fans, it does not

:32:44. > :32:49.sound as good. For us, when you win a race, you win a race. It is the

:32:50. > :32:56.buzz across the finish line and the whole team adrenaline. That exists.

:32:57. > :33:01.Some of the regulations I do not agree with but I think the sport is

:33:02. > :33:05.going in the right direction. In terms of competitiveness, obviously,

:33:06. > :33:11.you are not here now but it is a very competitive sport. Four or five

:33:12. > :33:19.world champions in Formula One every year. There is a lot of young

:33:20. > :33:30.talent. My team-mate is 21 years old. The good thing is, we get

:33:31. > :33:37.better looking with age. I said we because it will make me feel good.

:33:38. > :33:41.That was Jenson Button preparing for the Malaysian Grand Prix. He said he

:33:42. > :33:48.feels as if the sport is going in the right direction. Do you agree?

:33:49. > :33:53.Formula One has to be a technical proving ground for the

:33:54. > :33:58.manufacturers. In that respect, all the new regulations we have ticked

:33:59. > :34:02.the boxes. You could always amounted to remember a certain period of

:34:03. > :34:06.Formula One where you thought maybe because looked and sounded better

:34:07. > :34:10.but the reality is, you have to live in your time and in 2014, these

:34:11. > :34:17.other regulations you have. Renault said they were going to pull out if

:34:18. > :34:25.they did not bring in the turbo. You cannot ignore manufacturers. You

:34:26. > :34:30.need to have as many of them here using this as a proving ground. We

:34:31. > :34:38.have under coming back into Formula One as well next year which will be

:34:39. > :34:45.very interesting. -- Honda. The importance of the FIA listening to

:34:46. > :34:49.manufacturers is absolutely vital. It is the relevance really. Everyone

:34:50. > :34:54.who drives a car at home will benefit from the sport and the

:34:55. > :35:03.changes that have been made. So many things have been made for Formula

:35:04. > :35:06.One. As we look for other ways of replacing fossil fuels, hybrid

:35:07. > :35:11.technology is already there in the cars. The packaging of those

:35:12. > :35:15.batteries is so heavy, you use a whole chunk of energy you are

:35:16. > :35:22.recovering in a road car to propel the extra mass. The packaging in a

:35:23. > :35:26.Formula One car, the energy alone can produce 160 horsepower. That is

:35:27. > :35:32.a lot more than your Average Road car. When you consider overall

:35:33. > :35:39.packaging of a Grand Prix car, people say, I thought they were

:35:40. > :35:43.bigger. Yesterday, one of the guests said he could not believe how small

:35:44. > :35:49.the cars were and how intricate they lit. We are on the grid standing

:35:50. > :35:55.next to the car of Sebastian Vettel, waiting for him to come on. Sergio

:35:56. > :36:04.Perez has just stalled at the end of the pit lane and has to be pushed

:36:05. > :36:08.back into the garage. There is a procedure they go around to allow

:36:09. > :36:12.the driver to get the feel of the car. They can make adjustments to

:36:13. > :36:18.the front wing and the tyre pressures. It puts you slightly on

:36:19. > :36:24.the back foot. It is unusual, actually, for these cars to stall.

:36:25. > :36:30.They have a system called anti-stall. Basically, what it does,

:36:31. > :36:35.if it recognises the rate of deceleration of the RPM is greater

:36:36. > :36:40.than the car would be able to sustain, it pulls the clutch in for

:36:41. > :36:46.the driver and takes control of the car. That may be an issue. Clearly

:36:47. > :36:50.it is an issue but it is unusual for Force India to have a stall at the

:36:51. > :36:55.end of the pit lane. We will see what happens with that as the

:36:56. > :37:01.drivers are approaching. Let's get the latest news from Ferrari. We are

:37:02. > :37:05.watching Fernando Alonso getting into his car. The guys did an

:37:06. > :37:11.amazing job in repairing his broken suspension. Was there any more work

:37:12. > :37:19.to be done overnight? They did an incredible job. We made some other

:37:20. > :37:23.changes. The steering wheel was very light and there was some other

:37:24. > :37:32.damage but now the car should be all right. Do you want a dry race or a

:37:33. > :37:39.wet race? It depends. Never say never. What are your hopes for

:37:40. > :37:46.today? Sign up and we want to fight for a podium, that would be nice. We

:37:47. > :37:53.are live on the grid with Fernando Alonso. He is surrounded by media.

:37:54. > :37:59.He qualified fourth. How do you feel about Fernando Alonso? Has he got

:38:00. > :38:05.the car? Can he do anything to win the race? It does not have the pace

:38:06. > :38:10.of the Mercedes or the Red Bull at this time. It will be difficult for

:38:11. > :38:19.him. He was talking to his trainer. He may have said he needs a change

:38:20. > :38:24.of visor. In sunny conditions, if history repeats itself, there will

:38:25. > :38:28.be rain later on. You need to pick your sunglasses correctly. If your

:38:29. > :38:37.visor is too dark, that could be an issue. Fernando is just over our

:38:38. > :38:43.shoulder. It is hot up on the grid than in the pit lane. I know you do

:38:44. > :38:48.not know what he is thinking that you have been standing there,

:38:49. > :38:52.looking at a car, what goes through your mind? It is a calm moment. You

:38:53. > :38:57.have had time to go through everything with the engineers. You

:38:58. > :39:03.know your strategy. You had a rough idea what you are planning to do on

:39:04. > :39:09.the line. It is a calm time. It is not, oh, my goodness, I am well

:39:10. > :39:16.prepared. They have done all the rehearsing. It is tremendously

:39:17. > :39:17.exciting. Driving a Grand Prix car is exciting but racing one is

:39:18. > :39:36.amazing. I think, at this moment in time, the

:39:37. > :39:41.thing I do not have today in my life is that one single thing that gives

:39:42. > :39:47.absolute focus. Nothing else crosses your mind like the job in hand. It

:39:48. > :39:51.is not unique to Formula One but it is very powerful and empowering

:39:52. > :39:56.feeling when you feel you are in a zone. Sebastian Vettel is being

:39:57. > :40:03.pushed in by his mechanic. The bond he has with those guys, they almost

:40:04. > :40:08.don't need to say anything. It is a wonderful expression of teamwork.

:40:09. > :40:11.That is one thing I always really enjoyed. Mechanics give you a

:40:12. > :40:16.knowing glance. They say, we have done everything we can all stop we

:40:17. > :40:23.trust in you and we want you to deliver. We hear that Sergio Perez

:40:24. > :40:30.has been pushed back into the garage. We are standing next to

:40:31. > :40:39.Sebastian Vettel. It is getting very busy down here. He is in a different

:40:40. > :40:44.position to Melbourne. He is looking much stronger. We have the same top

:40:45. > :40:48.three manufacturers but a different driver and that is the world

:40:49. > :40:55.champion. Will we see him on the podium? He did everything he needed

:40:56. > :41:00.to in free practice. A great qualifying performance. That is

:41:01. > :41:09.where he wants to be all stop you can see him talking to his number

:41:10. > :41:18.two mechanic. Most people think this is called RB ten but, as you know,

:41:19. > :41:26.it is called Suzie. They are all works of art. They are absolutely

:41:27. > :41:30.beautiful. Just looking at the detail and everything, we can see

:41:31. > :41:35.Sebastian Vettel has gone to the other side of the grid. That is the

:41:36. > :41:40.one person I would like to talk to when we get a moment. He is

:41:41. > :41:51.surrounded by German media. We can wander round and have a chat until

:41:52. > :41:55.such time as he is ready. The genius behind Red Bull has been slightly

:41:56. > :42:00.frustrated with the fact Renault have been having problems. They have

:42:01. > :42:04.said they have a good chassis that they are not happy with the

:42:05. > :42:08.development of the powertrain. Renault have a lot of racing

:42:09. > :42:14.experience and they are a bit behind. They say they are several

:42:15. > :42:21.weeks behind Mercedes and some of the other teams and so the process

:42:22. > :42:25.will be ongoing. He has a big scrum around him. It really is so hot. Do

:42:26. > :42:31.you want to try to dive in and get the word with him or do you think he

:42:32. > :42:39.will be talking to the German guys? Shall we abort the decision? Do you

:42:40. > :42:54.fancy doing something different? Why don't we have a word with Christian

:42:55. > :43:02.Horner? Come over and join us. I always think it is interesting. It

:43:03. > :43:06.is almost like it is a social club. Everyone is so busy. They do not

:43:07. > :43:11.often see each other face to face until they come here. We were trying

:43:12. > :43:16.to get a word with Sebastian Vettel. He seems to be a bit longer in

:43:17. > :43:21.coming to the grid. Is there a particular issue or is it about

:43:22. > :43:25.making sure the boxes are ticked? There was a lot of rain yesterday

:43:26. > :43:32.and they wanted to get more mileage in. It is stinking hot today and

:43:33. > :43:36.they are making some last-minute adjustments. We have very wet

:43:37. > :43:42.conditions in qualifying. How much do you trust the weather forecast

:43:43. > :43:48.for later? We do not trust the weather forecast at all. It has been

:43:49. > :43:51.completely wrong or weekend. It is a matter of keeping an eye on where

:43:52. > :43:59.the weather is coming from and reacting accordingly. Where do you

:44:00. > :44:06.think the individual pace is going to come from? Where do you feel you

:44:07. > :44:12.are and what are your closest competitors? It will be interesting.

:44:13. > :44:16.We have a deficit on the straights and we are very quick on the

:44:17. > :44:20.corners. We know Mercedes are marginal on temperature, so

:44:21. > :44:29.hopefully we can put them under pressure. Have a good race. They

:44:30. > :44:35.don't bring as many generators to keep the car is warm, they have

:44:36. > :44:45.various coolers going through to try to make sure. You can see the dry

:44:46. > :44:51.ice. Everybody looks pretty busy. I will hand back. Thank you. This

:44:52. > :44:55.weekend, drivers are carrying messages on their helmets and cars

:44:56. > :45:01.to honour the passengers of the crew missing on the Malaysia Airlines

:45:02. > :45:05.flight. The public will now pay its respects with one minute's silence.

:45:06. > :46:13.Followed by the Malaysia national anthem.

:46:14. > :46:18.Our thoughts are with those who are missing, their loved ones on the

:46:19. > :46:24.tireless rescue workers. In their honour, the Prime Minister of

:46:25. > :46:30.Malaysia and each man of Formula One, Bernie Ecclestone, and the

:46:31. > :46:33.teams, will lead a one minute's silence followed by the Malaysia

:46:34. > :47:02.national anthem. Please be upstanding.

:47:03. > :48:44.As Bernie Ecclestone and the dignitaries leave in the driver said

:48:45. > :48:50.back to their cars for this race, we can look at the pole lap of Lewis

:48:51. > :49:04.Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel side-by-side. The tropical climate,

:49:05. > :49:12.no surprise, wet weather into qualifying. Lewis Hamilton on the

:49:13. > :49:19.left. Turn number one, at this point already Lewis Hamilton is one length

:49:20. > :49:24.ahead. Slightly different line through turn number one, first gear

:49:25. > :49:32.for a Lewis Hamilton. Does that cause oversteer? Both working their

:49:33. > :49:41.wheeled through the long turn number three. Absolutely flat in the drive.

:49:42. > :49:48.Turn number four, similar lines. Lewis Hamilton struggling a little

:49:49. > :49:51.bit with traction. The first of the high-speed corners, five and six.

:49:52. > :50:05.Look at Sebastian Vettel steering, massive correction. 130 macro per

:50:06. > :50:10.hour. -- 130 miles per hour. Nice and tidy on the exit, we'll spin

:50:11. > :50:21.from Lewis Hamilton. Turn number nine, Sebastian Vettel loses

:50:22. > :50:29.performance. Both cars struggling for traction over the rise in to

:50:30. > :50:37.turn Number 10. The high-speed section, 12 and 13. Sebastian Vettel

:50:38. > :50:50.using one of the curve. Red Bull has gained all of that time. Similar

:50:51. > :50:53.lines through 14, wider lines. You can still see the gap to Lewis

:50:54. > :50:59.Hamilton has increased again for Sebastian Vettel. The Mercedes

:51:00. > :51:07.powertrain is producing very good horsepower. They can gain back all

:51:08. > :51:13.of lost time and into the last corner, you can see he is just a

:51:14. > :51:18.little bit ahead. Slightly tighter line from Sebastian Vettel, 21

:51:19. > :51:26.seconds behind but the track is wetter as they go for the line.

:51:27. > :51:32.Second pole position for a Lewis Hamilton and his 33rd career pole

:51:33. > :51:37.position. Good to see that comparison. News about Sergio Perez,

:51:38. > :51:42.it could be hydraulic problems, he is out of his car. The hydraulic

:51:43. > :51:50.system operates power steering, part of the engine and the hydraulics.

:51:51. > :51:57.You don't want to have issues there. You have to go to the commentary

:51:58. > :52:06.box. Thank you very much. We have kindly been invited to take you into

:52:07. > :52:16.the McLaren garage. I think it might be Eric, the racing director. It is

:52:17. > :52:30.Jonathan! I was not sure. Do you want to be the CEO or just the boss?

:52:31. > :52:37.Anything you want. You have some problems in testing and you seemed

:52:38. > :52:41.to get better with personnel changes, so are you on track after

:52:42. > :52:46.last year? We have made good progress through the winter, we had

:52:47. > :52:52.a target of a good baseline and both drivers are driving well and it is

:52:53. > :52:54.great having Kevin in the team and Eric has joined us and we are

:52:55. > :53:00.strengthening the team through the pack. We have a lot of work to do,

:53:01. > :53:05.we are a long way from the front of the grid but our intent is to catch

:53:06. > :53:10.up. I was wondering, in the wet weather Jenson Button made the wrong

:53:11. > :53:16.choice of tyres. In the dry it will not change? I have the forecast but

:53:17. > :53:23.I don't know if it is any better than yours. 60% chance of rain. We

:53:24. > :53:28.are expecting a dry race. What are you expecting? Looking at the track

:53:29. > :53:37.temperature, normally it has cooled down but it is still 52 Greece. --

:53:38. > :53:40.degrees. The problem is that hires are very soft and the back of the

:53:41. > :53:44.car is quite loose for all of the drivers so they will be hoping it

:53:45. > :53:51.cools down. We are expecting an exciting race. We have got over the

:53:52. > :53:57.gremlins from yesterday. They are so fragile. They are at the moment,

:53:58. > :54:04.these are incredibly sophisticated bits of equipment and during

:54:05. > :54:10.practice we ran safety systems. When we spot any incident it turns into

:54:11. > :54:18.the limp mode. That is better than having a major fire. I am confident

:54:19. > :54:25.today. Good luck. All sorts of stars. Benedict Cumberbatch is here.

:54:26. > :54:28.He will be on the podium later on, resenting the award. This is it, the

:54:29. > :54:49.Malaysian Grand Prix. -- presenting. Here we go. Malaysia, where the rain

:54:50. > :55:03.can poor and Laura. And the crashes can be loud. Round two. The great

:55:04. > :55:16.year of change. -- pour and roar. Welcome to Formula One!

:55:17. > :55:23.Racing in the tropics adds an extra dimension and today there is a?

:55:24. > :55:29.Regarding the weather. It is dry with cloud bubbling up and the

:55:30. > :55:33.chance of rain later on. For the moment, the teams must focus on a

:55:34. > :55:37.dry race. The second race with hybrid technology, taking us from

:55:38. > :55:43.Australia to Malaysia, a country stricken by the awful events of

:55:44. > :55:50.flight MH370 but it is determined to carry on with major sporting events.

:55:51. > :55:55.Accordingly, this 5.5 kilometre track will host the 16th running of

:55:56. > :55:59.the Malaysian Grand Prix, which has been particularly successful for

:56:00. > :56:03.Ferrari over the years with six wins and recently Red Bull, with three

:56:04. > :56:10.wins from the last four. There are two DRS zones. The start-finish line

:56:11. > :56:16.and the straight that it sits on. We should see more overtaking on those

:56:17. > :56:21.straights. The final corner, number 15, as they come over the circuit,

:56:22. > :56:27.partly cloudy and the track temperature is as high as we can see

:56:28. > :56:32.it, 51 degrees. Normally that would have dropped. It will be tough on

:56:33. > :56:38.the tyres. Particularly on the opening stint. All other drivers

:56:39. > :56:45.have completely free choice of tyre. There will be two slick tyres, the

:56:46. > :56:50.harder compound, top of the range for Pirelli. All the teams still

:56:51. > :56:55.have a free choice and until the reveals tyres and they take those

:56:56. > :56:58.blankets of, we do not know what they will be starting with. There

:56:59. > :57:02.are expecting most frontrunners to start with the medium tyre, the

:57:03. > :57:07.faster in theory. But will it last the distance in these high

:57:08. > :57:12.temperatures? Looking at the grid, very interesting. For the 21st time,

:57:13. > :57:17.the front row is shared by Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel.

:57:18. > :57:23.Sebastian Vettel has come out on top more often. But Lewis Hamilton is

:57:24. > :57:31.favoured with Mercedes. Then Daniel Ricciardo in the same place as Mark

:57:32. > :57:38.Webber started last year. Let us look at the entire grid. Hamilton

:57:39. > :57:44.and Sebastian Vettel, Rosberg, Fernando Alonso, then Daniel

:57:45. > :57:50.Ricciardo. He was excluded from Australia. Then Kimi Raikkonen. Then

:57:51. > :57:59.Nico Hulkenberg, Force India. Then Kevin Magnussen. Jean-Eric Vergne,

:58:00. > :58:07.Jenson Button. He was lowest in Q3. Daniil Kvyat, he is next. Esteban

:58:08. > :58:12.Gutierrez, Sergio Perez. He has had problems. Romain Grosjean in the

:58:13. > :58:19.looters. With Pastor Maldonado joining him. Valtteri Bottas has

:58:20. > :58:27.that penalty for impeding Daniel Ricciardo. Then Jules Bianchi. And

:58:28. > :58:33.towards the back, we have Max Chilton and we have Marcus Ericsson,

:58:34. > :58:43.who crashed in qualifying. He seems fine. Ready to go racing. Fernando

:58:44. > :58:47.Alonso, fourth days. That is one place higher than he started in

:58:48. > :58:52.Australia. The last time Fernando Alonso failed to finish was here, 12

:58:53. > :58:57.months ago. He tapped the back of Sebastian Vettel on the opening and

:58:58. > :59:03.he tripped over his own front wing and went into the gravel trap. We

:59:04. > :59:12.saw 80 macro a moment ago. The 99th front row start for Red Bull. All of

:59:13. > :59:18.the cars on option, everybody is on the softer tyres. We thought people

:59:19. > :59:23.might gamble with harder tyres. The track is so hot and it will cool

:59:24. > :59:36.down but they will not be worried about the temperature. There is not

:59:37. > :59:43.enough grip in the harder tyres. Pirelli are expecting everyone to do

:59:44. > :59:49.two or three stops. Then a short run at the end on the prime. The 33rd

:59:50. > :59:56.pole position in the career of Lewis Hamilton. He has matched the British

:59:57. > :00:04.record with the same number of pole positions. Next time out he has a

:00:05. > :00:07.chance to beat it and go into the real top elements of Formula One

:00:08. > :00:13.history in terms of the number of pole position scored. Let's see if

:00:14. > :00:17.everyone gets away. There was a yellow flag briefly. I think

:00:18. > :00:23.everyone is waiting for the cars ahead to middle way so they can do a

:00:24. > :00:28.practice start. Everyone has moved away cleanly. I think the marshal

:00:29. > :00:34.was moving the yellow flags to warn the mechanic standing at the side of

:00:35. > :00:42.the track. Not the same need to get as much heat in the tyres in these

:00:43. > :00:48.temperatures. It is more about trying to control the temperature.

:00:49. > :00:56.Let's get a quick update from our man in the pit lane. We are not

:00:57. > :01:03.hearing from Tom. We will come back to that. Benedict Cumberbatch is

:01:04. > :01:13.making his way back over there, the Sherlock Holmes actor. The cars are

:01:14. > :01:19.heading around on this lap. Sorry about that. Sergio Perez has got out

:01:20. > :01:26.of his car. I have finally got someone from Force India to explain

:01:27. > :01:31.the problem. It is the limp home idling message that afflicted

:01:32. > :01:36.McLaren yesterday. A very early bath for him. He scored eight points for

:01:37. > :01:43.tenth place last time out. It has been a long time since he has had a

:01:44. > :01:48.non-finish. You have to go back to the previous season for him to have

:01:49. > :01:53.a non-finish. This will count as a non-start so officially he will not

:01:54. > :02:01.have a non-finisher. The cars are making their way around the lap at

:02:02. > :02:07.the moment. You can contact us on the Facebook page. Some of your

:02:08. > :02:15.comics will appear as live texts on the website. -- your comments.

:02:16. > :02:23.Fernando Alonso, you always must think he will be a threat when he is

:02:24. > :02:29.in the first two rows. It is a great race track. The launch into the

:02:30. > :02:33.first corner is a very wide, long apex. It gives you an opportunity to

:02:34. > :02:41.play around with where you position the car. We have seen so many

:02:42. > :02:47.concertina accidents at Turn 2. They will be deploying all the energy

:02:48. > :02:53.recovery. You can see their car juddering. It is doing a bite point

:02:54. > :03:00.find for the clutch. Lewis Hamilton was doing some burn-outs. He was

:03:01. > :03:04.trying to get as much surface temperature in the tyre as possible.

:03:05. > :03:08.They all go through similar procedures in terms of finding the

:03:09. > :03:13.clutch. They will get a message telling them to get into start mode

:03:14. > :03:20.and then it is all eyes on the lights. We are getting ready for the

:03:21. > :03:25.start of the race. In row three, Daniel Ricciardo and Kimi Raikkonen.

:03:26. > :03:32.He was going well in the drive. Jenson Button in row five. Gutierrez

:03:33. > :03:42.in six. The gap where Sergio Perez should be. Adrian Sutil and Valterri

:03:43. > :03:52.Bottas behind them. Valterri Bottas has a lot of work to do. Now for the

:03:53. > :03:57.start of the Malaysian Grand Prix in the heat and humidity of Malaysia.

:03:58. > :04:02.It will be a roasting start to the race with track temperatures at 51

:04:03. > :04:12.degrees. Is it Hamilton or Sebastian Vettel? Sebastian Vettel coming

:04:13. > :04:22.across to squeeze Eco Ross Berg. He cannot do it. -- Nico Rosberg.

:04:23. > :04:29.Daniel Ricciardo and Sebastian Vettel are side by side. Rosberg

:04:30. > :04:34.nearly goes off. He was getting into big trouble. He is under pressure.

:04:35. > :04:38.Sebastian Vettel on the outside. He is trying to go around the outside

:04:39. > :04:44.of his team-mate and almost runs into the back of the Mercedes.

:04:45. > :04:52.Daniel Ricciardo is up into third place. The Marussia is off and, I

:04:53. > :04:59.think, a Lotus. Let's keep an eye on that. Did the Ferrari of Alonso get

:05:00. > :05:07.up the inside? Kevin Magnussen looks down the inside. Recovering from

:05:08. > :05:13.that mistake on Turn 3. Nico Hulkenberg is well up there. Felipe

:05:14. > :05:18.Massa down the inside of Gutierrez. The other Williams is also going

:05:19. > :05:22.well. Valterri Bottas has made up some ground already after being

:05:23. > :05:29.forced down the grid with a three place penalty. Alonso fended off his

:05:30. > :05:33.team-mate and has managed to hold him off. Gutierrez was a bit wide

:05:34. > :05:40.and the opportunity for Valterri Bottas. They did not enjoy the wet

:05:41. > :05:45.conditions but, in the dry, the Williams drivers could be the ones

:05:46. > :05:52.to watch. The car was not performing particularly well in the wet. The

:05:53. > :05:59.wet tyres and intermediates do affect the overall dynamics of the

:06:00. > :06:10.car. The DRS will not be available for a couple of laps. Interesting

:06:11. > :06:15.with Sebastian Vettel... Nico Hulkenberg round Alonso. Does he

:06:16. > :06:21.have the speed on the exit? The cars are moving all over the place. This

:06:22. > :06:32.is Magnussen trying to past Kimi Raikkonen. One of them is going very

:06:33. > :06:35.slowly. Which Ferrari is it? Is it Alonso? I'd think it is Kimi

:06:36. > :06:47.Raikkonen. You can just see the yellow. There was a little bit of

:06:48. > :06:55.contact. Could Magnussen have just touched the car? We have seen that

:06:56. > :06:59.before. They are under such stress. That is so disappointing for Kimi

:07:00. > :07:04.Raikkonen. He has a long way to go to get back to the pits from birth.

:07:05. > :07:13.It is the luck of the racing gods where you get the incidents. He will

:07:14. > :07:20.lose past a minute, I would suggest, getting back into the pits. We saw

:07:21. > :07:29.the Marussia and the Lotus in trouble. We are waiting for the

:07:30. > :07:36.Ferrari of Kimi Raikkonen to come in. Hamilton continues to lead,

:07:37. > :07:40.opening up a gap of around two, three seconds over his team-mate.

:07:41. > :07:45.Sebastian Vettel has two fight his Australian team-mate once again.

:07:46. > :07:50.Last year it was all about team orders and now he is finding himself

:07:51. > :07:56.going wheel-to-wheel with his new Australian team-mate. At the moment,

:07:57. > :08:04.he is having to sit behind him. B McLarens are going wheel-to-wheel.

:08:05. > :08:13.That was nice from Jenson Button. He has taken seventh place. Jean-Eric

:08:14. > :08:16.Vergne in the Toro Rosso. It is a very early pit stop. You would

:08:17. > :08:22.imagine there was some problem with the car. We are still waiting for

:08:23. > :08:29.Kimi Raikkonen to get back. You can rip the rear suspension apart. He is

:08:30. > :08:34.very wary of that. Jenson Button ahead of Kevin Magnussen. All of

:08:35. > :08:39.these are Mercedes powered cars but obviously different chassis is

:08:40. > :08:45.involved in the McLaren and Williams. Kimi Raikkonen is back in

:08:46. > :08:50.the race. He could do with the safety car but the chances of the

:08:51. > :08:56.safety car in Malaysia is 20%. So much run-off, it is where we do get

:08:57. > :09:03.safety car running. Already, at this phase of the Grand Prix, they will

:09:04. > :09:11.be hoping to try and get Lap 12, 13 or 14 around if they are going to go

:09:12. > :09:16.to number stops. They are having to manage fuel flow. They have 7.8

:09:17. > :09:28.kilograms of fuel available per lap. 100 kilograms of fuel... Magnussen

:09:29. > :09:33.battling away. He has the DRS of Felipe Massa going down the inside

:09:34. > :09:39.and being followed by his team-mate will stop almost but not quite.

:09:40. > :09:45.Sebastian Vettel attacking Daniel Ricciardo. He also had the DRS open

:09:46. > :09:50.and is taking full advantage. He looked like he wanted to get a move

:09:51. > :09:57.on and had to be patient. Still pressure from the Williams. He has

:09:58. > :10:02.the place back from Felipe Massa so he must have used DRS on the

:10:03. > :10:09.straight. Now the two Williams together. Be careful, boys, you do

:10:10. > :10:18.not want to upset Claire Williams. She would not be impressed. Daniil

:10:19. > :10:23.Kvyat in the second of the two cars in his second only Grand Prix. He is

:10:24. > :10:28.proving to be brave but is he too brave? When you go into the Grand

:10:29. > :10:32.Prix knowing you might have to do three stops got it gives you

:10:33. > :10:36.confidence to use your tyres. You are not having to preserve the

:10:37. > :10:43.surface temperature. You might decide to come in earlier for the

:10:44. > :10:46.first stop. We are on board with Felipe Massa, still chasing after

:10:47. > :10:52.Kevin Magnussen. TEAM RADIO: Nico Rosberg is

:10:53. > :11:00.struggling with his rear tyres. Make sure you look after them. Lots of

:11:01. > :11:07.problems with the tyres where they are overheated. Down towards turn

:11:08. > :11:13.14. This leads them onto the back stretch. Watch for the DRS coming

:11:14. > :11:23.into operation. When the rear wing flap opens, the cars in speed. Let's

:11:24. > :11:29.have a look at the front wing of the McLaren. Let's see if there was an

:11:30. > :11:37.incident. Some damage to the front left wing. That is the contact that

:11:38. > :11:42.was made with Kimi Raikkonen cutting the Ferrari tyre. That will affect

:11:43. > :12:03.the downforce. Ditty errors makes a little mistake. -- Guttierez.

:12:04. > :12:07.Another look at the start. The Mercedes power, once you get above

:12:08. > :12:14.100 committed an hour, you can put all the talk on to the race track.

:12:15. > :12:18.Not much the Red Bulls could do. Is there any wheel banging? It was

:12:19. > :12:25.pretty clean, as close as you would want to be through turn to.

:12:26. > :12:35.Hopefully they will stay with it as we go around. -- turn two. He was

:12:36. > :12:39.clean away from the line. He just powered himself against the pit

:12:40. > :12:46.wall. Just enough space for the car to squeeze through. Nico Rosberg has

:12:47. > :12:52.a massive oversteer through Turn 3, that is why he had to defend so

:12:53. > :12:58.heavily. On board with Jean-Eric Vergne. That was a poor start. It

:12:59. > :13:03.looked like the car really jutted when he released the clutch. He

:13:04. > :13:09.could not put the traction down on the track. Maybe he had to do a

:13:10. > :13:16.reset. He would have been around where the incident happened with the

:13:17. > :13:20.Lotus is around him. Let's see what happened in the background. You can

:13:21. > :13:27.see the contact which was before they got to the corner. There was

:13:28. > :13:31.some contact with the rear tyre. Pastor Maldonado got spun around.

:13:32. > :13:42.This is Kevin Magnussen in the Ferrari. A lot of that front wing is

:13:43. > :13:48.missing. You can see it struggling. Such a shame. Kimi Raikkonen has

:13:49. > :13:54.managed to get the car back. The band brother has come away. Back to

:13:55. > :14:05.what is happening now. -- the band of rubber. Daniel Ricciardo is in

:14:06. > :14:11.force and Alonso is this. In seventh, Jenson Button. Then it is

:14:12. > :14:24.Magnussen eighth and ninth place for Felipe Massa.

:14:25. > :14:33.Good management but it looks like Felipe Massa cannot close that gap

:14:34. > :14:40.sufficiently. You would want to give him that opportunity and then see if

:14:41. > :14:46.he can overtake McLaren. The incident will be investigated. If

:14:47. > :14:52.they find guilt, that could be a drive-through penalty. Nico

:14:53. > :15:00.Hulkenberg, quite lonely in sixth place. Then Jenson Button. That gap

:15:01. > :15:09.has opened up. Behind, you have Daniil Kvyat, Toro Rosso. And sadly,

:15:10. > :15:21.that is Sergio Perez. Not even starting. There is a five second

:15:22. > :15:25.penalty for Jules Bianchi for the collision and this is a new penalty

:15:26. > :15:30.and he can wait, until the pit stop, before checking that. The team

:15:31. > :15:37.cannot combine that with the pit stop, they cannot touch the car for

:15:38. > :15:48.five seconds. TEAM RADIO: Do not attack Felipe

:15:49. > :15:57.Massa, we will follow through. I know my place! Already some team

:15:58. > :16:05.rivalry. Felipe Massa complaining about Valtteri Bottas and the team

:16:06. > :16:12.waiting for him, for that moment. Valtteri Bottas sounded like he was

:16:13. > :16:18.sitting in his armchair! You can see the Latin temperament.

:16:19. > :16:29.TEAM RADIO: We need to box the car at the end of this lap. That might

:16:30. > :16:34.be as a result of the collision rather than fuel reliability. We

:16:35. > :16:39.will have to find out. The other Lotus is running, Romain Grosjean,

:16:40. > :16:45.in 13th place. This is a leader, Lewis Hamilton, no repeat of the

:16:46. > :16:50.engine problems from Australia and he has set the fastest lap. Second

:16:51. > :17:02.place, Rosberg, then Sebastian Vettel. Nico Hulkenberg and Jenson

:17:03. > :17:07.Button follow-through. Then Kevin Magnussen, with the yellow stripe.

:17:08. > :17:13.Only his second grand prix. Under attack from one of the most

:17:14. > :17:20.experienced, Felipe Massa. Claire Williams, the deputy team principal.

:17:21. > :17:25.Looking slightly concerned. Right until the chequered flag, that is

:17:26. > :17:32.when she allows herself to look happy. She has been around racing

:17:33. > :17:42.tracks her whole life. Already, those drivers getting heated against

:17:43. > :17:51.each other. Behind them, it is Daniil Kvyat, Esteban Gutierrez.

:17:52. > :18:00.Kamui Kobayashi leading the battle between Marussia and Caterham.

:18:01. > :18:03.Pastor Maldonado. The only two cars were not seeing in the race, and

:18:04. > :18:15.could be ashy is leading that battle. -- Kamui Kobayashi. Max

:18:16. > :18:22.Chilton is next up, keeping in touch with Caterham. One to watch. Very

:18:23. > :18:28.early stages and we are expecting them to push before making their

:18:29. > :18:32.first pit stop if the tyres are holding together. Things are looking

:18:33. > :18:44.very good for Lewis Hamilton, let us watch him. Just easing away from his

:18:45. > :18:47.team-mate. Much has been made of the fact that Nico Rosberg is seen as

:18:48. > :18:53.more of a thinking driver but this is flawless from Lewis Hamilton.

:18:54. > :19:01.This is actually what he wanted after Australia. They must think

:19:02. > :19:05.about the fuel they are using at all stages and if you push too hard and

:19:06. > :19:10.go above your ration, you might have to back off in the closing stages,

:19:11. > :19:18.we do not know exactly who is using it better. Professor 80 macro will

:19:19. > :19:26.be thinking about that, trying to maximise his fuel in the latter

:19:27. > :19:32.parts. -- Nico Rosberg. Very quick in the wet, they seem to be off in

:19:33. > :19:36.the dry but still, lots of encouragement for Red Bull this

:19:37. > :19:41.weekend and they are not being swamped? They reckoned they were

:19:42. > :19:48.half of the second of the place from Mercedes. We can see Hamilton

:19:49. > :19:52.pulling away. Nothing like some horsepower to solve that problem.

:19:53. > :19:55.They were flatter in the wet weather, mind force is more of a

:19:56. > :20:30.game. -- downforce. TEAM RADIO: Box this lap. Confirm.

:20:31. > :20:37.He should still be able to do this on three stops, he might have to

:20:38. > :20:44.extend some other parts. We should see some changes. There is a lot of

:20:45. > :20:48.damage to the front left side. He has done well to stay in front of

:20:49. > :20:57.Williams. This will commit him to three stops. That lower noise, they

:20:58. > :21:05.are changing from around 12,000 rpm. They are taking their time getting

:21:06. > :21:11.that knows off. They practice this assiduously over the weekend. You

:21:12. > :21:16.can hear the tyres squealing coming out of the pit lanes, that used to

:21:17. > :21:27.be drowned by the engine noise. You get that squeal. Williams have been

:21:28. > :21:36.released by McLaren, by Kevin Magnussen. Can Valtteri Bottas have

:21:37. > :21:40.a go at getting past Felipe Massa? He is able to keep that gap under

:21:41. > :21:47.control but he is in the DRS. But the significant, that opens up the

:21:48. > :21:56.rear wing. More drag is reduced when that rear wing opens up. We saw

:21:57. > :22:03.Jean-Eric Vergne earlier, he had the harder compound anti-Islamic quicker

:22:04. > :22:09.than his team-mate, Daniil Kvyat. There will be that five second

:22:10. > :22:14.penalty for Kevin Magnussen. It is a shame they did not get that one

:22:15. > :22:17.moment ago because they could have taken that five second penalty

:22:18. > :22:21.during the pit stop. They can still wait for the next pit stop. You want

:22:22. > :22:30.to get these penalties out of the way as early as you can. It does not

:22:31. > :22:40.make it easy to get them in the bank. You are racing for track

:22:41. > :22:45.position thereafter. I think Jules Bianchi has done his penalty but we

:22:46. > :22:51.will wait to see when Kevin Magnussen does it. On board with

:22:52. > :22:57.Lewis Hamilton. Income is Daniil Kvyat, switching, staying on to the

:22:58. > :23:06.softer tyres, staying on the medium compound. Different strategy from

:23:07. > :23:12.both Toro Rossos. It looked like they have to do some sort of reset

:23:13. > :23:21.on the car. Kimi Raikkonen is still running. But he is down at the back,

:23:22. > :23:25.last position. Trying to close the gap to Jean-Eric Vergne. And of

:23:26. > :23:30.course Kevin Magnussen is towards the back, having made that pit stop.

:23:31. > :23:38.Lewis Hamilton, still opening up that gap. He was four seconds after

:23:39. > :23:48.six laps and it has just grown, lap 11 from 56. Rosberg, chasing the

:23:49. > :23:51.gap. Mercedes can control this race. That is Daniel Ricciardo in fourth

:23:52. > :23:57.place, then Fernando Alonso, chased by Nico Hulkenberg. These two have

:23:58. > :24:06.ended up on track together several times. Incomes Fernando Alonso. Lap

:24:07. > :24:10.12. This is good three stop territory. But this is the early

:24:11. > :24:16.part of the window and he has to stay on the softer of those tyres.

:24:17. > :24:30.Ferrari were the fastest on the pit stops in Australia. Pulling at his

:24:31. > :24:37.visor. Looking into the cockpit. He is with Toro Rosso, Jean-Eric

:24:38. > :24:41.Vergne. Sorry, it is Romain Grosjean. Currently in 10th

:24:42. > :24:46.position. TEAM RADIO: Two tenths faster last

:24:47. > :24:52.lap, we're just waiting for the to open. Fernando Alonso going round

:24:53. > :24:59.the outside of Romain Grosjean. Making that look pretty easy. But

:25:00. > :25:05.Romain Grosjean is still running, they need to get as much mileage as

:25:06. > :25:08.possible with that car. They are looking towards the beginning of the

:25:09. > :25:12.European season in terms of boosting what they are able to do. Back on

:25:13. > :25:20.board with Lewis Hamilton. The backstretch. He went very wide into

:25:21. > :25:25.the corner. Getting to the end of the usable life of these tyres.

:25:26. > :25:31.Absolutely. Is he coming in? Not yet. They want to go deeper into

:25:32. > :25:36.this race before they make their first pit stop. That is what he is

:25:37. > :25:55.being asked to do. Benedict Cumberbatch. You would think he is

:25:56. > :26:01.used to being on television. Both Saubers are running together. This

:26:02. > :26:10.is important. For the decision. They must lap 13 before the next pit

:26:11. > :26:15.stop. Williams also getting ready. 70 macro making his way down to the

:26:16. > :26:21.exit. See where this brings him out. He will be very close to Fernando

:26:22. > :26:30.Alonso. And he just gets the advantage. Does he? No, 70 macro has

:26:31. > :26:35.got him back! Side-by-side! Fernando Alonso and 70 macro, and 70 macro

:26:36. > :26:41.has fought his way to get back in front. Crucial than ever. Fernando

:26:42. > :26:52.Alonso will not give up. Impressive stuff from 70 macro. -- Daniel

:26:53. > :26:58.Ricciardo. Red Bull responded. Paul Monaghan, one of the senior

:26:59. > :27:01.engineers, took a photograph of the car of 70 macro because there must

:27:02. > :27:06.be something on the bodywork they want to look at and analyse.

:27:07. > :27:13.Fernando Alonso, he went to deep and he overshot but Daniel Ricciardo is

:27:14. > :27:18.an extremely good racer. Good at the wheel to wheel stuff. There always

:27:19. > :27:22.has been a question over that, with Toro Rosso, at one stage he had a

:27:23. > :27:28.reputation for losing places rather than gaining them.

:27:29. > :27:35.TEAM RADIO: Box. What will this mean? Will Daniel Ricciardo have the

:27:36. > :27:40.advantage? He has lost some time fighting with Fernando Alonso but he

:27:41. > :27:47.is over that and he will clearly be faster than his previous lap because

:27:48. > :27:51.of the fresher tyres. Sebastian Vettel was always going to have to

:27:52. > :27:56.respond. And he called for that adjustment to his front wing. He

:27:57. > :28:05.will be constantly ahead at the end of the pit lane. Jenson Button. And

:28:06. > :28:13.Felipe Massa has also been in. Rejoining, Sebastian Vettel, tonight

:28:14. > :28:18.behind Williams, Valtteri Bottas. And Sebastian Vettel is just in

:28:19. > :28:25.front of Daniel Ricciardo. Perhaps Sebastian Vettel is losing some

:28:26. > :28:29.momentum, that could be expensive. Valtteri Bottas has not been into

:28:30. > :28:34.the pits, he will not just let him through. Sebastian Vettel fighting

:28:35. > :28:44.his way. Look at that advantage in traction. Into that Red Bull

:28:45. > :28:52.sandwich in to turn number five. TEAM RADIO: Box. It also owns so

:28:53. > :29:02.easy and relaxed at Mercedes. Fernando Alonso, lining up to get

:29:03. > :29:05.past Valtteri Bottas. That was a half-hearted look by Fernando

:29:06. > :29:10.Alonso. They are just giving each other enough room. Interesting. I

:29:11. > :29:14.don't think Fernando Alonso thought that Valtteri Bottas was going to

:29:15. > :29:21.give him space. I suspect he will pass me! Very unusual, given how

:29:22. > :29:25.hard he fought for maintaining position with the Red Bull. Rosberg

:29:26. > :29:32.has the first stop. TEAM RADIO: Lewis Hamilton, you are

:29:33. > :29:37.good on fuel. Push on. Not often the leader would have the priority. The

:29:38. > :29:50.gap between them is very comfortable. Lewis Hamilton should

:29:51. > :29:57.not lose out too much. You will see their Red Bulls coming into shot as

:29:58. > :30:09.he turns around ten one. A good example of this will be Valterri

:30:10. > :30:13.Bottas. -- Turn 1. Just looking at the percentage of fuel they have

:30:14. > :30:18.used so far. This is according to the 100 K limit they have. Sebastian

:30:19. > :30:28.Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo have both used more fuel. Alonso is at

:30:29. > :30:33.the 25% mark and Mercedes are looking very comfortable. Once again

:30:34. > :30:42.the Red Bulls are using a touch more. That information works on the

:30:43. > :30:51.basis of every ten grams of fuel used. That information is supplied

:30:52. > :31:02.to the FIA. It shows how comfortably and efficiently Mercedes have been.

:31:03. > :31:06.Mercedes seem to have got that very nicely sorted out. Hamilton is in

:31:07. > :31:13.the pit lane and the guys are ready. They are prepared to go to work. It

:31:14. > :31:19.is a flawless stop, by the looks of things. He is on his way once more

:31:20. > :31:24.and he will still retain a comfortable lead over his team-mate.

:31:25. > :31:29.Nico Hulkenberg is heading down the straight as he has not stopped yet.

:31:30. > :31:37.He takes the lead of the race as Hamilton has made his pit stop. Nico

:31:38. > :31:44.Rosberg is now heading up towards Turn 1. We are on Lap 16. You would

:31:45. > :31:51.have to go a bit further than this to make it eight two stop race. You

:31:52. > :31:57.do wonder whether Force India are trying to do something a bit

:31:58. > :32:03.different. You were near to the pit stop. Another cracking pit stop by

:32:04. > :32:09.Mercedes. There has not been a fudged pit stop in the pit lane so

:32:10. > :32:15.far. Even when Kimi Raikkonen limped in with the front left wheel off the

:32:16. > :32:19.ground, they dealt with a brilliantly executed pit stop. One

:32:20. > :32:22.of the Ferrari mechanic said yesterday that pit stops are a

:32:23. > :32:32.little bit easier this year because the front wing, being narrower, it

:32:33. > :32:42.is easier to get the front wheels. Lewis Hamilton gets the lead back.

:32:43. > :32:50.He is on fresh tyres. Is Nico Hulkenberg trying for aid to stop

:32:51. > :32:56.race? What is happening behind him? -- a two stop race. You have the

:32:57. > :33:05.battle for tenth place between Valterri Bottas and Magnussen. They

:33:06. > :33:09.were the other way around. Felipe Massa has definitely gained by

:33:10. > :33:13.making the earlier pit stop. He is further up the road and Valterri

:33:14. > :33:23.Bottas has lost eight seconds to his team-mate. That will be the penalty

:33:24. > :33:41.applied as well. B five second stop and go which was taken on the pit

:33:42. > :33:53.stop. Holcombe Berg is in now. -- Hulkenburg. The sadist could go to

:33:54. > :34:01.three stop or two stop will stop -- Mercedes could go three stop or two

:34:02. > :34:06.stop. The rubber is staying on the carcass of the tire but it is not

:34:07. > :34:10.generating the same levels of grip. Not only is their bridges

:34:11. > :34:22.downforce, there is less grip available. -- not only is there less

:34:23. > :34:28.downforce. Kimi Raikkonen is trying to work his way up the field and he

:34:29. > :34:34.has caught a couple of cars. Kimi Raikkonen has a chance. He is now

:34:35. > :34:41.outside of the rookie. He has not raced against him before but he

:34:42. > :34:50.needed to give him some space. Look how the Ferrari has dropped back! He

:34:51. > :35:00.has the right to pick his lame. He went buried deep into Turn 1. You

:35:01. > :35:10.can see with that horror Rosso, they are taking a deeper line. It looks

:35:11. > :35:17.like Ericsson turned him wide. Eriksson is still in front. A new

:35:18. > :35:22.fastest lap from Lewis Hamilton on fresh tyres. No surprise about that.

:35:23. > :35:27.Nico Rosberg is still in second place. Nine seconds is the gap

:35:28. > :35:34.between the two Mercedes. TEAM RADIO: Dropped back a bit more

:35:35. > :35:39.to look after the tyres. It is getting closer. If something goes

:35:40. > :35:46.on, I want to be a part of it. Understood. He is fighting for his

:35:47. > :35:53.own position and his own points and trying to get onto the podium. He is

:35:54. > :35:59.making reference to the fact that Sebastian Vettel is clawing in Nico

:36:00. > :36:04.Rosberg. I love the expression, if something goes on, I want to be a

:36:05. > :36:13.part of it. He is watching what is happening. I was impressed with what

:36:14. > :36:19.he did in the Toro Rosso. He has vast experience of being in red ball

:36:20. > :36:26.racing. He is not giving it up. He is making a race of it. On board

:36:27. > :36:30.with Sebastian Vettel with the battle for third place between

:36:31. > :36:37.himself and his team-mate. Three cars are out of the Grand Prix,

:36:38. > :36:45.Sergio Perez, Pastor Maldonado and Jules Bianchi. Jean-Eric Vergne has

:36:46. > :36:49.come into the pits that he has gone back out again. He is the last

:36:50. > :36:56.runner in the Grand Prix. You saw the run-in between Jean-Eric Vergne

:36:57. > :37:00.and Ericsson. Chilton is only four seconds behind the caterer. There

:37:01. > :37:13.might be an opportunity for him later. Let's watch Sebastian Vettel.

:37:14. > :37:20.Team -- TEAM RADIO: Be mindful of your tyres.

:37:21. > :37:32.Yellow I keep telling myself, like the noise, like! They are powerful.

:37:33. > :37:37.That is the thing. They are doing 200 miles a night in a couple of

:37:38. > :37:44.places they were not doing. 321 inclinometer is an hour, which is

:37:45. > :37:57.just over 200 miles an hour. -- 320 in calamity is an hour.

:37:58. > :38:05.Sebastian Vettel is staying very much in touch with Nico Rosberg. He

:38:06. > :38:09.is within two seconds of the Mercedes. Kimi Raikkonen has come

:38:10. > :38:17.into the pits. He is going on to the hard tyre. He is the first of the

:38:18. > :38:22.lead drivers... I mean he is one of the frontrunners in terms of pace.

:38:23. > :38:27.He has been one of the fastest here this weekend. Discounting Mercedes,

:38:28. > :38:34.he has been one of the fastest in the try. They have 17 laps on the

:38:35. > :38:43.tyres. Just a slight under rotation will stop it will not have done too

:38:44. > :38:47.much damage for Hamilton. I guess it will be good knowledge for everyone

:38:48. > :38:52.to see what it does on the hard tyre. You have to think the race

:38:53. > :39:01.will Jean-Eric Vergne might be coming to an end because he has been

:39:02. > :39:07.hit so many times. Right from the start, the car is being driven into

:39:08. > :39:11.the garage. It looks like it is all over for him. He is eighth in the

:39:12. > :39:17.championship coming up to this race but it will not continue. His

:39:18. > :39:23.team-mate is still running in the top ten, Daniil Kvyat. He has

:39:24. > :39:28.Valterri Bottas behind him. He is just .7 of a second behind him. We

:39:29. > :39:34.will see what happens in that particular battle. That is four cars

:39:35. > :39:40.out of the Grand Prix. We are into 20 out of 56. 15 finished in

:39:41. > :39:46.Australia. Let's see what we get this time in the heat and humidity

:39:47. > :39:50.of Malaysia. That is about three Bottas and he is right with Daniil

:39:51. > :39:57.Kvyat. It has been an interesting battle. The advantage goes to felt

:39:58. > :40:06.we Bottas. There are two zones here. -- Valterri Bottas.

:40:07. > :40:10.TEAM RADIO: It is a lot better for energy. Tried to keep this setting.

:40:11. > :40:19.You will get more release if you keep this setting. Presumably that

:40:20. > :40:26.is more recovery from the breaking recovery system. The driver does not

:40:27. > :40:29.know what part he is using. It goes into one storage system and it is

:40:30. > :40:36.used to spin up the turbo so there is no lack. It is meant to be a

:40:37. > :40:46.seamless request as you push on the throttle. It is about the combustion

:40:47. > :40:51.engine and the recoverable energy. They tend to lift out of the

:40:52. > :40:57.throttle towards the end of the straight bit earlier. It is a very

:40:58. > :41:05.good way of saving fuel. We need to see with DRS if Valterri Bottas can

:41:06. > :41:09.overtake the other Toro Rosso of Daniil Kvyat. Daniil Kvyat knows the

:41:10. > :41:14.game is up. TEAM RADIO: Big gap to Sebastian

:41:15. > :41:19.Vettel is 2.5. We would like to increase the gap so we can go to

:41:20. > :41:25.more savings. It is nice when you can increase the gap at will. Daniil

:41:26. > :41:29.Kvyat has not given up right now and getting back past Valterri Bottas. I

:41:30. > :41:35.think he will be able to open up the gap as they come to Turn 4 and

:41:36. > :41:42.accelerate up the hill. That is where the Mercedes may have the

:41:43. > :41:51.edge. Sergio Perez never got into the race. We are talking to him now.

:41:52. > :41:58.This must be hard. What was the problem? There was a problem with

:41:59. > :42:02.the software. We're not quite sure at the moment. It is very similar to

:42:03. > :42:07.the problem we had in qualifying with the downshift. Every time I try

:42:08. > :42:17.to do that, it locks. Really frustrating weekend. It has been a

:42:18. > :42:21.frustrating one. It has been a long time since you did not finish the

:42:22. > :42:34.Grand Prix. It must be frustrating being a spectator? Knowing the car

:42:35. > :42:38.had the pace today to recover. Nico Hulkenberg in sixth position with

:42:39. > :42:44.the other Force India. He is ahead of Jenson Button. They will be

:42:45. > :42:47.pleased with that. They are ahead of both McLarens. Magnussen is in

:42:48. > :42:53.seventh. He served his penalty earlier on. We have not seen him

:42:54. > :43:01.serve his penalty because it only came up after the first pit stop.

:43:02. > :43:11.Magnussen is 2.5 seconds behind Daniil Kvyat. We are looking at

:43:12. > :43:22.Sebastian Vettel. They are about four, five times quicker than Red

:43:23. > :43:27.Bull. They are turning down the engines already, they are so much in

:43:28. > :43:33.control. They are looking after... They are talking about getting

:43:34. > :43:40.mileage out of the engines. You look after them as soon as you can. They

:43:41. > :43:45.have such an advantage. Almost a second a lap quicker than Alonso.

:43:46. > :43:51.Red Bull are able to keep them a little bit on the toes. If I was the

:43:52. > :43:57.co-Rosberg I want more than 80.5 second gap. -- Nico Rosberg. You

:43:58. > :44:05.could easily find yourself under pressure. That was his best lap to

:44:06. > :44:17.date. Sebastian Vettel lost three tenths of a second to Nico Rosberg.

:44:18. > :44:26.Kimi Raikkonen is down in 18. He is behind Eriksson again. He has set a

:44:27. > :44:32.personal best in the first sector. There is Nico Rosberg, the battle

:44:33. > :44:35.for second and third places. Sebastian Vettel in a slightly

:44:36. > :44:40.unfamiliar role than the latter part of last year. He was pretty much out

:44:41. > :44:41.in front. They do not have the sheer speed on the straights at the

:44:42. > :44:53.moment. TEAM RADIO: Keep doing what you are

:44:54. > :45:01.doing, Nico Rosberg is trying to pull the gap to Sebastian Vettel.

:45:02. > :45:09.There was a delay on that left front, not as quick as the right

:45:10. > :45:15.front. It was only a fraction, tiny amount, by the did add to that pit

:45:16. > :45:24.stop time. 2.5 seconds slower than the other top teams. Rosberg edging

:45:25. > :45:28.away from Sebastian Vettel. Mercedes have done their work over the

:45:29. > :45:32.off-season, longer than that because the build-up to this hybrid formula

:45:33. > :45:39.has been going on for several years. You can just feel that Mercedes had

:45:40. > :45:44.committed themselves massively. They have spent big money and have gone

:45:45. > :45:48.about this in the proper way and they are able to deliver and show

:45:49. > :45:54.the dominant form we have seen from Red Bull in the past. Mercedes had

:45:55. > :46:02.performance facilities and they were getting the fuel tract, Hamilton at

:46:03. > :46:08.39%. He is the biggest user. He will have to throttle back as the race

:46:09. > :46:15.goes on and Mercedes clearly have more fuel for later on. Felipe

:46:16. > :46:20.Massa, he is the best with the amount if you will he has left. It

:46:21. > :46:24.changes all the time as the readings come through but Williams is looking

:46:25. > :46:31.in very good shape and Hamilton, the leader, one of the best as well. As

:46:32. > :46:37.we said, Mercedes have done their sums. They have a great facility in

:46:38. > :46:44.the UK and they have committed to this very early, developing these

:46:45. > :46:48.new powertrains. No surprise, if you have enough resources, people and

:46:49. > :46:53.time, you will come up with good solutions. It does look more and

:46:54. > :46:58.more, as expected, but it could be all about Rosberg and Hamilton.

:46:59. > :47:04.Esteban Gutierrez in the pits, with Sauber. The top ten, Hamilton,

:47:05. > :47:11.Rosberg with that gap of ten seconds, Sebastian Vettel, Daniel

:47:12. > :47:17.Ricciardo. The first Ferrari, the only one, is Fernando Alonso, Nico

:47:18. > :47:22.Hulkenberg has dropped back. They gap is over five seconds. Behind

:47:23. > :47:28.Nico Hulkenberg, the gap to Jenson Button has been growing, McLaughlin

:47:29. > :47:35.might have been able to close that. -- McLaren. Jenson Button will have

:47:36. > :47:44.two lookout because Felipe Massa is only two seconds behind Jenson

:47:45. > :47:55.Button. Kevin Magnussen completes the top ten.

:47:56. > :48:05.TEAM RADIO: You would like to get this to at least five. Off you go,

:48:06. > :48:10.get that speed up. That is what Rosberg is concentrating on. Pastor

:48:11. > :48:13.Maldonado, the other Lotus, we passed in very early on and there

:48:14. > :48:19.was some incident with Jules Bianchi. He is talking to as. Pastor

:48:20. > :48:32.Maldonado, why did you have to retire? Damage? No damage. It was on

:48:33. > :48:37.the engine, we were losing a lot of power and we then decided to retire,

:48:38. > :48:41.we decided with the engine, we will analyse that and see what is

:48:42. > :48:46.happening. We lost one engine already so we had to save the car.

:48:47. > :48:53.Tell us about coming together with Jules Bianchi. I do not know, I just

:48:54. > :49:02.felt him crashing into my back and I is one around. Not that clear. -- I

:49:03. > :49:07.was spinning around. He made the switch from Williams to Lotus and he

:49:08. > :49:12.must be wondering about that because Williams are still going well, both

:49:13. > :49:16.cars in the points, not as far up as they would like but still an

:49:17. > :49:27.opportunity to get closer. How is that battle developing further down?

:49:28. > :49:39.Grosjean into the top ten. Adrian Sutil trying to get around Max

:49:40. > :49:43.Chilton. Those cars are not really competing against each other on

:49:44. > :49:49.pace. But Adrian Sutil having to work for it. Adrian Sutil, another

:49:50. > :49:56.set of harder tyres. Also Esteban Gutierrez, trying to get past Marcus

:49:57. > :50:01.Ericsson. Fernando Alonso have already made that extra pit stop. It

:50:02. > :50:05.looked like he was going to have a go down the inside but I am

:50:06. > :50:11.impressed with Marcus Ericsson, he is not giving up his position.

:50:12. > :50:19.Jenson Button, another set of the option. On the softer tyres. 26 laps

:50:20. > :50:28.completed and very much the three stop strategy for Jenson Button. Tom

:50:29. > :50:33.is with Red Bull. Sensational news, coming through from Red Bull, the

:50:34. > :50:38.fuel flow sensor on Daniel Ricciardo has failed completely severe using

:50:39. > :50:43.the back-up system they have agreed with the FIA and the team is quick

:50:44. > :50:50.to stress this is different to what happened with Sebastian Vettel in

:50:51. > :50:52.Melbourne because there it was still working but it was drifting

:50:53. > :50:57.increasingly during the race, which is why the team took that into their

:50:58. > :51:06.own hands to measure. With Daniel Ricciardo, this is complete failure.

:51:07. > :51:09.Interesting, the FIA says that these devices are there were very

:51:10. > :51:13.accurately or stopped working completely and if they do stop,

:51:14. > :51:19.there is that back-up system of using the team's own system but with

:51:20. > :51:24.the offset. Esteban Gutierrez, fighting for position and getting

:51:25. > :51:30.past Max Chilton. It does seem that there are some questions. You have a

:51:31. > :51:37.system and if anything fails on the car, it stops. Spark the connection,

:51:38. > :51:42.it stops, hydraulic, it stops. To have something on these cars which

:51:43. > :51:46.does seem to have some reliability issues does not seem acceptable.

:51:47. > :51:50.That will be discussed with the court case for the exclusion of

:51:51. > :51:53.Daniel Ricciardo in a couple of weeks to determine whether he will

:51:54. > :51:58.get those points back. For the moment, upfront, no denying that

:51:59. > :52:05.Mercedes are totally in control. Look at Lewis Hamilton, lapping Kimi

:52:06. > :52:10.Raikkonen, and he does an extremely quick job of getting out of the way.

:52:11. > :52:16.But he is trying to get past the 83 macro and takes advantage of that to

:52:17. > :52:21.go through. Half the distance. Mercedes totally dominating.

:52:22. > :52:26.Although Red Bull just keeping in touch with Sebastian Vettel in third

:52:27. > :52:31.place. Daniil Kvyat against Kamui Kobayashi here. Kamui Kobayashi has

:52:32. > :52:37.just been passed by Daniil Kvyat. Jenson Button has been passed by

:52:38. > :52:42.oath Williams cars, because of that second pit stop. So Jenson Button is

:52:43. > :52:47.in ninth place but we have to see when those Williams cars come in.

:52:48. > :52:54.This is Daniil Kvyat getting past Kamui Kobayashi using DRS. He

:52:55. > :53:00.defends down the inside but there is not much he can do when the car

:53:01. > :53:15.producers that drag and games about 15 kilometres an hour. Daniil Kvyat

:53:16. > :53:21.showing good consistency. Three stop race for Ferrari. It does not look

:53:22. > :53:26.like they have a car that can challenge Mercedes and right now,

:53:27. > :53:31.they are struggling to challenge Red Bull. Onto the harder tyres,

:53:32. > :53:35.unlikely he will take that to the end. He could in theory but that is

:53:36. > :53:42.half of the distance and looking at the tyre degradation in practice, it

:53:43. > :53:46.is unlikely they could go that far. Also in his Felipe Massa. This will

:53:47. > :53:52.be interesting regarding Jenson Button. He was back on the softer

:53:53. > :54:01.tyres, still has to do the run on the harder tyres. And he comes back

:54:02. > :54:06.out. We will have an idea of how his situation stacks up with his

:54:07. > :54:12.team-mate. He was ahead and with Jenson Button, who was chasing

:54:13. > :54:18.earlier. He has come out behind Jenson Button, they gap is 6.3

:54:19. > :54:25.seconds, he has work to do to catch McLaren. Kevin Magnussen has just

:54:26. > :54:35.set the fastest lap. Fresh set of boots. Have we used half of the

:54:36. > :54:43.fuel? Kevin Magnussen trying to get past Kamui Kobayashi. There we are.

:54:44. > :54:47.Hamilton still looking incredibly comfortable Alonso is Valtteri

:54:48. > :54:53.Bottas. I wonder if he can use that extra fuel in the latter stages?

:54:54. > :55:00.That is key information for us as we can see Red Bull coming in. Also for

:55:01. > :55:04.the other teams, it clearly backs up the efficiency of the power unit,

:55:05. > :55:09.you cannot just set the engine from the power used and stored and then

:55:10. > :55:14.deployed from the battery pack, but that is a very strong argument to

:55:15. > :55:21.show the efficiency and Mercedes are clearly the most efficient.

:55:22. > :55:24.Ricciardo with the harder tyres. On-board with Kevin Magnussen. He

:55:25. > :55:41.tries to get past Kamui Kobayashi. The DRS is operating. This should be

:55:42. > :55:50.relatively straightforward. He has opened his DRS. I wonder why? The

:55:51. > :55:55.activation point is coming out of turn number 12. He has to use that,

:55:56. > :56:03.if it is there. Perhaps it was just the camera angle. We can see how

:56:04. > :56:18.early he was able to effect that into turn number one. Grosjean, into

:56:19. > :56:23.13th place. McLaren have changed the front end of their car this weekend.

:56:24. > :56:27.The nose cone section looks more like Force India and Toro Rosso but

:56:28. > :56:38.nobody has copied Lotus with that twin task effort. -- tusk. That is a

:56:39. > :56:43.very good middle sector from Daniel Ricciardo. At this stage, they have

:56:44. > :56:49.50 kilos. TEAM RADIO: Be advised, there is

:56:50. > :56:54.rain in the area, we can see that on the radar. Looking out of the

:56:55. > :56:59.commentary box, it does not look threatening at the moment. Very

:57:00. > :57:04.consistent. We have gone past the time when we had that huge rain

:57:05. > :57:10.shower yesterday. On the fuel, around 50 kilos, 1.5 seconds of

:57:11. > :57:17.performance. Like-for-like on the tyres, just on the fuel effects you

:57:18. > :57:24.could run faster. Tom, conditions changing in the pits? I would agree,

:57:25. > :57:28.not looking threatening. There is a little bit of wind building up but

:57:29. > :57:32.let us not forget that yesterday at lunchtime I went around various

:57:33. > :57:36.teams asking for the forecast and they said it does not look bad! And

:57:37. > :57:44.look at the deluge we had. It happens frequently here. Grosjean

:57:45. > :57:53.squeezing past Kamui Kobayashi. They both have Renault power units. Kamui

:57:54. > :57:59.Kobayashi has his DRS open and Grosjean does not. He was in the

:58:00. > :58:10.activation is so they are having issues. Some outflow, I love that

:58:11. > :58:16.wording. It is raining somewhere! Back with Grosjean, trying to get

:58:17. > :58:21.past Kamui Kobayashi, who was a very experienced driver. He has only

:58:22. > :58:24.stopped once so his tyres have done a lot of work and that is

:58:25. > :58:31.impressive. Only one stop. TEAM RADIO: Lewis, there are clouds

:58:32. > :58:34.forming away from the circuit so there is a possible threat of rain

:58:35. > :58:41.towards the end of the race. We will keep you updated. Information being

:58:42. > :58:50.shared. Grosjean lining up for the pass. Important for Caterham, their

:58:51. > :58:57.home race. He goes sideways, Kamui Kobayashi. Grosjean gets some of

:58:58. > :59:00.that. That is what we are enjoying, whether you like the noise around, I

:59:01. > :59:05.love the fact they are fighting with the cars, it is not as easy to just

:59:06. > :59:16.floored the throttle. There was lots of talk. -- torque. He did not

:59:17. > :59:21.complete a lap in Melbourne, 31 racing laps with this car. Kamui

:59:22. > :59:27.Kobayashi has been out of Formula One for one year so he is not as

:59:28. > :59:33.race fit. I do not think DRS is working on the Lotus. Ever see if he

:59:34. > :59:38.can use that... That is a great little tussle, one way or the other.

:59:39. > :59:45.He comes back on the inside, is the DRS open? Yes, but he is not using

:59:46. > :59:49.it down the back straight. Finally alongside, Kamui Kobayashi will not

:59:50. > :59:56.give up but he will ultimately have two. Kamui Kobayashi, the first ever

:59:57. > :00:01.Japanese driver to win GP2 at this track some years ago. In the car

:00:02. > :00:05.with Sebastian Vettel. Responding to Daniel Ricciardo, going out on those

:00:06. > :00:17.harder tyres and setting quick laps. TEAM RADIO: Will try to protect

:00:18. > :00:21.ourselves against some rain. He is staying on the medium tire. He will

:00:22. > :00:32.go on to the hard tyre for the final stint. Carb balance changes joined

:00:33. > :00:36.the Grand Prix. As the weight comes off, the nimbleness of the vehicle

:00:37. > :00:42.improves and it allows the driver to position it in different places. You

:00:43. > :00:51.can see Daniel Ricciardo coming through.

:00:52. > :00:56.TEAM RADIO: Box, box! He is being asked to come in. It is the second

:00:57. > :01:09.time for Nico Rosberg to make a pit stop. Nico Rosberg still seconds by

:01:10. > :01:18.some ten seconds from Hamilton. Sebastian Vettel is in third. We are

:01:19. > :01:27.wondering how deep Hulkenburg will be able to go in this race. The guy

:01:28. > :01:33.who is using not so much fuel as some of the others but putting in

:01:34. > :01:39.very good lap times. Williams are very impressive. They came into this

:01:40. > :01:45.season with confidence. They are not using as much fuel so they can use a

:01:46. > :01:53.bit more fuel each lap. That means more horsepower. Let's see what the

:01:54. > :02:03.pit stop is like for these guys. It should be untroubled. All the tyres

:02:04. > :02:09.are off. It is the medium compound tyres. They will be making another

:02:10. > :02:14.stop for the hard tyres. They are able to go quite a decent length.

:02:15. > :02:17.Last year, Mercedes struggled with getting their tyres to last. Now

:02:18. > :02:28.they are more comfortable. TEAM RADIO: OK, Lewis, box at the

:02:29. > :02:33.end of this lap. They have to respond to Sebastian Vettel. He has

:02:34. > :02:40.new tyres so he is able to push the gap down but not enough to leapfrog

:02:41. > :02:46.Mercedes. Seeing Mercedes with Sebastian Vettel putting on a medium

:02:47. > :02:50.tire, they are reacting to the threat of rain. They will not have

:02:51. > :02:57.to use the slower, harder tyre at all in the race. If you get rain and

:02:58. > :03:02.it is declared wet, the fact you usually have to use both types of

:03:03. > :03:15.tyre is negated. Sebastian Vettel with the opportunity to get back to

:03:16. > :03:21.the Mercedes. He is within nearly a second. If you can get within the

:03:22. > :03:28.one seconds mark, he is in DRS range. Into the pits comes the race

:03:29. > :03:34.leader, Lewis Hamilton. He has a ten second lead. He has comfortable

:03:35. > :03:39.controlled this part of the race. It is all systems operating as he

:03:40. > :03:43.continues out and makes his way down the long pit lane. It feels like

:03:44. > :03:50.never before they can get back to full power. He is very much in

:03:51. > :03:56.charge. Hamilton in control with Nico Rosberg in second. He is

:03:57. > :04:02.spending off Sebastian Vettel. Hulkenburg moving into second place

:04:03. > :04:06.because of the pit stops around him. Nico Rosberg is in third with

:04:07. > :04:13.Sebastian Vettel in force. Another fastest lap this time from Sebastian

:04:14. > :04:18.Vettel. Into a gap of .7 of a second. Nico Rosberg will need to

:04:19. > :04:26.get a move on to get the crucial one second gap which enabled him to

:04:27. > :04:30.activate his DRS. I think Force India are trying to push it for a

:04:31. > :04:37.two stop. They need to get another few more laps. That is probably what

:04:38. > :04:44.they are trying to do. He is around cars with fresh tyres. That must

:04:45. > :04:52.make your cards feel worse. It was a great effort with the one stop.

:04:53. > :05:00.Hulkenburg is very clear that it is difficult. What would be loss or

:05:01. > :05:04.gain be in staying with this strategy this afternoon? We will

:05:05. > :05:10.find out soon enough. I'm sure he will like it if we had some rain.

:05:11. > :05:18.Sebastian Vettel is keeping Nico Rosberg in the running. We have got

:05:19. > :05:26.a yellow. Where is that? We will try to find out what is going on. There

:05:27. > :05:32.is a problem for Adrian Sutil, his car has stopped. The car has been

:05:33. > :05:39.stopped. It is unlikely to need a safety car but it is in a strange

:05:40. > :05:45.position. Look how close Sebastian Vettel is to the back of Nico

:05:46. > :05:54.Rosberg. They are very precise on how much you have to slow down at a

:05:55. > :06:00.yellow now. I am not understanding why they are not using DRS. It is

:06:01. > :06:07.disabled because of the yellow flag. He might have missed his

:06:08. > :06:13.window of opportunity. Force India, 21 laps, that is possible because of

:06:14. > :06:21.the where life of the hard tyres. It is a question of how slow it will be

:06:22. > :06:27.going towards the end. This is the sextet in the middle where the Red

:06:28. > :06:33.Bull has shown impressive speed. -- the sector. It is about carb

:06:34. > :06:42.balance. In the first sector it has been three tenths quicker. Kimi

:06:43. > :06:49.Raikkonen is saying there is some rain at the back of the track. There

:06:50. > :06:54.is some dark cloud around but I cannot see the rain falling yet.

:06:55. > :06:59.Kimi Raikkonen is getting its bashing on his visor. He is still in

:07:00. > :07:10.14th place after the puncture he suffered on the first lap. Sometimes

:07:11. > :07:16.you do get little splashes of fluid that can drift up onto your Pfizer.

:07:17. > :07:22.This track is so wide that the marshals have been allowed to get

:07:23. > :07:29.the car out of the way. TEAM RADIO: Just hit the beeps. The

:07:30. > :07:36.fuel is OK. Daniel Ricciardo is using more fuel than anyone will

:07:37. > :07:48.stop another piece of information we have gained. Hit the list of beeps.

:07:49. > :07:55.It tells them when to shift up. -- lift off beeps. It clearly beeps

:07:56. > :07:59.when they get to the desired point at the end of the straight. If they

:08:00. > :08:06.coast and then break, that is where they get the maximum fuel saving.

:08:07. > :08:16.Nothing to worry about at the moment but keep us updated. You can have a

:08:17. > :08:21.constant drizzle but it does not really affect lap times. It is only

:08:22. > :08:26.when it's full heavily, on these slick tyres, they will be slithering

:08:27. > :08:30.around all over the place. Nico Rosberg seems so composed at the

:08:31. > :08:35.moment. Sebastian Vettel is keeping pressure on him. It is almost as if

:08:36. > :08:42.Nick Rosberg is driving to the pace of Sebastian Vettel. Hulkenburg is

:08:43. > :08:52.in sixth place after his second pit stop. Jenson Button is in second.

:08:53. > :08:55.Coming into the Grand Prix, McLaren where leading the Constructors'

:08:56. > :09:05.Championship. That will change today. Mercedes are heading one and

:09:06. > :09:08.two. Red Bull have scored nothing from Australia but, nonetheless,

:09:09. > :09:12.this will change the constructors order quite considerably. Alonso

:09:13. > :09:17.once again scoring in fifth place. That is not enough for Ferrari.

:09:18. > :09:24.There will be questions asked in the early stages of this new hybrid in.

:09:25. > :09:29.Gutierrez is in the pits. It looks like he has a problem. Not a great

:09:30. > :09:35.deal happening. He is trying to get going, getting it to move. The Ahe

:09:36. > :09:44.is trying to select a gear. The mechanics are standing back. He is

:09:45. > :09:50.trying to select a gear. If this is another car out, it will become a

:09:51. > :10:00.six retirement. A shake of the head and the engines are off. Sebastian

:10:01. > :10:04.Vettel had a problem in qualifying yesterday where they were able to

:10:05. > :10:12.reset it by turning it off and on again. Whether they can achieve that

:10:13. > :10:16.with Gutierrez or not, worth trying though. It is an opportunity for

:10:17. > :10:21.teams at the lower end of the order to pick up a vital position, they've

:10:22. > :10:30.even a point at the end of the race. For teams like Caterham or

:10:31. > :10:37.Marussia. Chilton was 14th last time in Australia.

:10:38. > :10:48.There is Fernando Alonso, still not far behind Daniel Ricciardo. The gap

:10:49. > :10:54.is still two seconds. TEAM RADIO: Nico Rosberg is seeming

:10:55. > :11:01.to lose or oil or water for the last couple of laps already. That is

:11:02. > :11:09.interesting. Some fluid from the Mercedes. It could also be rain. It

:11:10. > :11:17.lifted off nice and early. I wonder if it is just a few drops of rain

:11:18. > :11:21.out the back of the circuit. Again, Sebastian Vettel will be able to

:11:22. > :11:29.tell as he wipes whatever fluid it is from his visor, what it is. It

:11:30. > :11:37.depends how much water there is on the visor. It is starting to rain.

:11:38. > :11:40.Thank you for the update. Still reasonable brightness in one

:11:41. > :11:48.direction. TEAM RADIO: There are drops in nine

:11:49. > :11:53.and ten. There are drops in turns nine and ten. We're not quite there

:11:54. > :11:58.yet. We will get to that section. If it is only a few drops, the drivers

:11:59. > :12:07.will not feel that in terms of the grip level. It is just disconcerting

:12:08. > :12:11.when you have a few drops of fluid on your Pfizer. If it is going to

:12:12. > :12:18.start raining, does it do it before you get close to the pit lane? If it

:12:19. > :12:26.does that, you will have a long and slippy ride back to the pits. The

:12:27. > :12:33.temperatures is still 49 degrees. At 5:15pm, it is very high. Humidity is

:12:34. > :12:37.just below 16%. We will wait and see what the weather does over the next

:12:38. > :12:42.part of the race. We are getting into the latter stages. We have

:12:43. > :12:50.completed two thirds distance. Gutierrez is out of his car. Kamui

:12:51. > :12:52.Kobayashi has moved into 13. We were talking about the importance of

:12:53. > :12:59.getting the positions. Now they are in a key area. I am not sure how

:13:00. > :13:04.much longer he will be there. Kimi Raikkonen is right behind him. Here

:13:05. > :13:09.we are with Daniel Ricciardo and Fernando Alonso. Alonso is looking

:13:10. > :13:20.more racy. He has more fuel in hand by the looks of it. Daniel Ricciardo

:13:21. > :13:25.is on 68.5. That will come in handy once he gets into the zone. Last

:13:26. > :13:31.time he was 1.2 seconds behind and it looks like he is narrowing the

:13:32. > :13:35.gap further. We are expecting some third pit stops coming up. They

:13:36. > :13:41.could come any time. I would not expect them yet. I would expect them

:13:42. > :13:49.to go further. Get ready for another round of pit stops relatively soon.

:13:50. > :13:54.Alonso keeping the pressure on. Hulkenburg, we think, is definitely

:13:55. > :13:58.trying to get through on two stops. He is lapping quite effectively at

:13:59. > :14:06.the moment. Jenson Button is still in seven and Valterri Bottas in

:14:07. > :14:12.nine. He is pushing on to try and get into the zone to overtake Daniel

:14:13. > :14:17.Ricciardo. If you think the brain is going to come a bit later in the

:14:18. > :14:27.race, you would rather eat this out as far as possible. -- eek this out.

:14:28. > :14:32.When it rains, it tends to do a big dump are more likely you will get a

:14:33. > :14:38.safety car. They are saying there is rain but it looks clear. I have been

:14:39. > :14:43.in this situation before where it looks like it will rain and nothing

:14:44. > :14:47.happens at all. Let's read the situation as it occurs. Sebastian

:14:48. > :14:51.Vettel has not given up hopes of putting pressure on Mercedes and

:14:52. > :14:57.seeing if there is a chink in the armour. He is just within the three

:14:58. > :15:04.second mark with Nico Rosberg. There is Mercedes. The Red Bull chases.

:15:05. > :15:14.TEAM RADIO: Speak up when you talk. Speak up and repeat. There is rain

:15:15. > :15:24.in the air. Normally the communications are easier. That is

:15:25. > :15:27.how it has changed in recent laps between Sebastian Vettel and Nico

:15:28. > :15:32.Rosberg. Nico Rosberg does seem to be in control. Hamilton is lapping

:15:33. > :15:37.consistently. The same lap time almost to the one hundredth of a

:15:38. > :15:48.second. A drop of rain on the lens of the camera man. The window for

:15:49. > :15:56.the third pit stop opening up. The big question, both McLaren cars in,

:15:57. > :16:01.both going onto the harder compound and the question is whether they can

:16:02. > :16:05.hunt down Nico Hulkenberg, who looks to be trying for those two stops

:16:06. > :16:14.whether Force India will respond to McLaren. Maybe they will switch to

:16:15. > :16:19.the three stop. It might be safer. They have that flexibility. Rosberg,

:16:20. > :16:24.in second place, Sebastian Vettel in third. Kimi Raikkonen, in 13th

:16:25. > :16:34.place, having passed Kamui Kobayashi. His lap time is all

:16:35. > :16:53.right, 49.5. Daniel Ricciardo, his final pit stop -- pit stop. Daniel

:16:54. > :17:03.Ricciardo has a problem. Shaking his head. All of a sudden, Daniel

:17:04. > :17:06.Ricciardo, what is happening? He was weaving, shaking his steering wheel

:17:07. > :17:11.from side to side, perhaps an issue with the wheel, the mechanics are

:17:12. > :17:16.pushing him back. This will take them quite some time to get him

:17:17. > :17:21.back. They have to push it back to their own pit area. Daniel

:17:22. > :17:26.Ricciardo, he has driven superbly today, only the second grand prix

:17:27. > :17:33.for Red Bull Racing, disqualified from Australia. It is falling apart.

:17:34. > :17:39.The engine is still running, so it might well be that they were not

:17:40. > :17:42.entirely happy that all of those wheels were correctly positioned.

:17:43. > :17:48.Let us find out if he gets pushed into the box, they are not preparing

:17:49. > :18:03.the garage. Back into the stop ox. The left front. Maybe it simply was

:18:04. > :18:15.not done up, as Tom suggested? The normal excellent at work that we see

:18:16. > :18:22.from Red Bull has not happened. --- pit wok. That was a silly problem

:18:23. > :18:30.and that has cost him dearly, coming out behind Kamui Kobayashi. In front

:18:31. > :18:40.of Fernando Alonso, an entire lot. -- an entire lap. Let us look at the

:18:41. > :18:47.original stop. That front wheel. The left wheel, the right comes off.

:18:48. > :18:58.He's not happy. Yes, you can see it wobbling. It was not seated. I am

:18:59. > :19:06.surprised he drove as far as he did. Yes. The team is under threat with

:19:07. > :19:09.this regulation that says you must not release the car if there is

:19:10. > :19:15.nothing not quite right and he might get in a digital penalty as a result

:19:16. > :19:21.of that. TEAM RADIO: Box at the end of this

:19:22. > :19:29.lap. -- might get an additional penalty. We will see lots more pit

:19:30. > :19:32.stops but if the race continues in a conventional manner, there will be

:19:33. > :19:41.the final pit stop for Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton very

:19:42. > :19:45.controlled in front. He has lapped Kevin Magnussen in ninth place, he

:19:46. > :19:50.has lapped up to ninth position, Rosberg in second. In the

:19:51. > :19:56.background, we still have Sebastian Vettel, Grosjean in the foreground,

:19:57. > :20:01.11th place. It would be great for Lotus to scrape a point out of this.

:20:02. > :20:08.There is an opportunity to just gain one point, 10th place. Fernando

:20:09. > :20:17.Alonso, how far can Daniel Ricciardo recover?

:20:18. > :20:24.We have some medium tyres going on, he can go back onto what should be

:20:25. > :20:33.quicker tyres and the 13 laps to go and good fuel usage. Tom, any more

:20:34. > :20:38.raindrops? And damage on the front wing of Daniel Ricciardo! It is

:20:39. > :20:44.scraping along the ground. It just goes from bad to worse. Whether

:20:45. > :20:54.there is failure or contact, but Daniel Ricciardo is lumping. We will

:20:55. > :21:06.get the replay. -- limping. Christian Horner, looking glum. The

:21:07. > :21:17.danger is that falls off. TEAM RADIO: Comment. -- come in.

:21:18. > :21:24.Yes, it is rubbing against the front tyre. That is a lot of damage, all

:21:25. > :21:29.of the end plates has been taken. There must have been contact? That

:21:30. > :21:37.is part of the Red Bull front wing. Some debris, I guess that could lead

:21:38. > :21:40.to the safety car, in theory. I wonder if the Race Director will be

:21:41. > :21:50.impressed with this? What would be the call? There was nothing falling

:21:51. > :21:54.off. Will that cause problems? As long as he is not endangering

:21:55. > :22:00.anybody. With punctured tyres, there is bits of rubber, and you can see

:22:01. > :22:10.the wing is hanging down. Whether it was just loading, it is cutting into

:22:11. > :22:13.the tyres. We are still new to these cars, maybe that front wing mount

:22:14. > :22:29.has failed. So, Daniel Ricciardo is finally into

:22:30. > :22:37.the pits. They will change the front wing and the tyres as well. They

:22:38. > :22:40.will send him on his way once again. Paul Monaghan took a photograph of

:22:41. > :22:46.that, I wonder if there was already an issue that they were monitoring?

:22:47. > :22:50.He is not just here today pretty pictures of racing cars. I wonder if

:22:51. > :22:58.there was contact in the opening laps. They knew there was some

:22:59. > :23:03.damage? Maybe Tom can get a line on that. 12 laps left to go in

:23:04. > :23:13.Malaysia. Hamilton is setting the fastest lap, 1.44.329. He has stayed

:23:14. > :23:18.constant, Mercedes have controlled this, they have been making for

:23:19. > :23:22.Rosberg... TEAM RADIO: We would like to avoid

:23:23. > :23:31.going onto the prime tyres early. Stay out. That is just in case we

:23:32. > :23:37.get that late rain shower. Good middle sector from Fernando Alonso.

:23:38. > :23:45.On the option, generating more grip. They are getting towards fumes, not

:23:46. > :23:50.carrying a lot of weight. The times improved, the track gets moreover,

:23:51. > :23:54.the is going down, so we are going into that operating window.

:23:55. > :24:01.Hulkenberg still holding onto fourth decision. Fernando Alonso will try

:24:02. > :24:07.to close that gap. Will they switch to three stops? They still have

:24:08. > :24:12.time, if they need to. Lewis Hamilton cruising around at the

:24:13. > :24:17.moment, he has done two stops and we expect one more before the end. That

:24:18. > :24:22.is a dark cloud in the background but still no sign of heavy rain

:24:23. > :24:26.falling. Lewis Hamilton has never won the Malaysian Grand Prix. This

:24:27. > :24:34.would be the first time he has taken this. This was Daniel Ricciardo,

:24:35. > :24:39.over the kerb? That was the point at which it failed but it looks to me

:24:40. > :24:45.like it just pulled out of the mounting from below the wing. Ten

:24:46. > :24:51.second penalty for Daniel Ricciardo for that unsafe release. Once that

:24:52. > :24:56.has happened, there is not much the stewards can decide. Because of the

:24:57. > :25:01.accident in Germany last year, they are very keen on those. As we go

:25:02. > :25:06.back with Daniel Ricciardo. He will try to recover, 16th place,

:25:07. > :25:10.currently. He has gone past Max Chilton, you might not realise he

:25:11. > :25:16.should be racing against him because he just seemed to let him go

:25:17. > :25:24.through. Up ahead, Valtteri Bottas, in sixth place. Kamui Kobayashi,

:25:25. > :25:29.13th place, with those problems with Daniel Ricciardo. That could be

:25:30. > :25:33.crucial for Caterham and another place would be very important for

:25:34. > :25:44.them. Jenson Button and Felipe Massa, battling for sixth place.

:25:45. > :25:47.Just having a look, Felipe Massa, we have Valtteri Bottas ahead of him.

:25:48. > :25:52.And Valtteri Bottas has just stopped. Jenson Button with a

:25:53. > :25:59.challenge coming from Williams and Felipe Massa. The DRS will be

:26:00. > :26:07.available to him. William is bearing down. Valtteri Bottas, just further

:26:08. > :26:14.back having made that pit stop. Not quite enough speed for Felipe Massa

:26:15. > :26:21.to take Jenson Button. Up ahead, Marcus Ericsson in the other

:26:22. > :26:25.Caterham. Past the grandstand, Jenson Button moves to the inside,

:26:26. > :26:31.he will have to work for it. Felipe Massa forces around the inside.

:26:32. > :26:35.Jenson Button goes deep, just about get it into the second part of the

:26:36. > :26:40.corner. That will be tough for Felipe Massa, he goes around the

:26:41. > :26:45.outside! Felipe Massa, side-by-side with Jenson Button, Jenson Button

:26:46. > :26:51.having the inside line. He can go around the outside but Felipe Massa

:26:52. > :27:00.is unable to do that. That started on turn number one, into turn number

:27:01. > :27:05.five. The Williams has got better pace at this stage. And they are the

:27:06. > :27:11.ones providing the entertainment. It was Valtteri Bottas in Australia and

:27:12. > :27:17.it is Felipe Massa here. They have been very efficient on fuel usage so

:27:18. > :27:24.they can run their engine and turn things up for the end of the race.

:27:25. > :27:30.Valtteri Bottas, he will be on fresh tyres, that'll be something. We

:27:31. > :27:37.might have both Williams cars going hard at it. Kevin Magnussen, ninth

:27:38. > :27:46.place. Daniil Kvyat is in 10th place. Grosjean in 11th place and

:27:47. > :27:54.Daniel Ricciardo looks like he could be out of this. OK, he has come back

:27:55. > :28:03.out. That is good. He will have to try to close up and take as many

:28:04. > :28:08.places as possible. So, lap 47. Hamilton still in front. No trouble

:28:09. > :28:14.at all for Lewis Hamilton at this stage, Rosberg and second, Mercedes

:28:15. > :28:24.looking at one, two. Sebastian Vettel. Hulkenberg in fourth place

:28:25. > :28:30.and looking to try to do this on two stops. Mercedes could probably

:28:31. > :28:37.finish on two stops if they wanted to. They will have to make another

:28:38. > :28:44.pit stop. Fernando Alonso, they Jenson Button, Felipe Massa,

:28:45. > :28:52.Valtteri Bottas in eighth place. Then Kevin Magnussen, Daniil Kvyat,

:28:53. > :28:56.Grosjean. Valtteri Bottas was a big winner out of that little battle. He

:28:57. > :29:02.was two seconds quicker than his team-mate, Felipe Massa, on the last

:29:03. > :29:06.gap. This is not only a battle over sixth place, which is held by Jenson

:29:07. > :29:13.Button, it is the battle of the team-mates. I am sure there will be

:29:14. > :29:18.no team orders this late, each man for himself. Off you go. The new

:29:19. > :29:26.fastest lap I Fernando Alonso, who switched onto the medium compound

:29:27. > :29:33.and has done 1:41.1. That Ferrari does have pace. Does it have the

:29:34. > :29:36.race long place? Perhaps they do not have the fuel consumption that

:29:37. > :29:45.Mercedes have. They have a reasonably fast car and that is a

:29:46. > :29:52.very good lap. Hamilton is not being pushed. You'll AAlonso was 7.2

:29:53. > :30:07.seconds behind Hulkenburg last time around. -- Alonso. He could come

:30:08. > :30:14.back out in front of Jenson Button. It may be they are keeping an eye on

:30:15. > :30:19.Jenson Button Rather than worrying about Alonso in the Ferrari. Let's

:30:20. > :30:23.see whether he can close the gap. A bit quicker in the middle sector.

:30:24. > :30:30.Jenson Button not able to get close enough to challenge. We will have to

:30:31. > :30:36.wait and see. What news do you have? I have no news. I think I have

:30:37. > :30:43.failed you. You asked me about the front wing failure and they said,

:30:44. > :30:56.they do not know. There in. There will be an investigation afterwards,

:30:57. > :31:02.I am sure. -- fair enough. The rule of having a big car advantage is do

:31:03. > :31:09.not win by two much otherwise you do not get much television coverage for

:31:10. > :31:12.your sponsors. That is true. This Malaysian company have never had the

:31:13. > :31:21.victory when they have been in Formula One on home turf. The best

:31:22. > :31:28.they have had before is this place. They have never had a victory on

:31:29. > :31:46.home turf. Not only could it be a victory, it could be a one -to-macro

:31:47. > :31:50.finish. Holcombe Berg is in fourth. -- Hulkenburg is in fourth.

:31:51. > :31:59.Consistently two seconds a lap faster. There are only six laps to

:32:00. > :32:08.go. A bit of rain right now would play into the hands of Hulkenburg. A

:32:09. > :32:15.late switch on the prime tyre. To better, onto the harder tyre. He

:32:16. > :32:22.will finish this race with a short distance to go. He is coming into

:32:23. > :32:25.the pits now. The guys go to work putting on the orange band attire

:32:26. > :32:29.which he has two run at some point in the race. It looks like he could

:32:30. > :32:34.have continued on the other type he knows he has two run it at some

:32:35. > :32:41.point. They have left it till pretty much the last stage in the Grand

:32:42. > :32:46.Prix. On board, he will probably have only about 12 kilos. Nico

:32:47. > :32:51.Rosberg is being urged to come in as well. They had been engaged in quite

:32:52. > :32:57.a battle but I do not think Sebastian Vettel will have enough to

:32:58. > :33:03.take the fight to Nico Rosberg. He is judging his own pace by Sebastian

:33:04. > :33:10.Vettel behind him. Jenson Button is still in sixth place, ending off the

:33:11. > :33:15.Williams of Felipe Massa. A big gap back to Kevin Magnussen in ninth.

:33:16. > :33:23.Daniil Kvyat heading for points again. Romain Grosjean is only 2.6

:33:24. > :33:33.seconds behind in the bloated. What the boost it would be. -- in the

:33:34. > :33:37.Lotus. It is all about Sebastian Vettel and Nico Rosberg whether

:33:38. > :33:51.there will be any change. And Hulkenburg. Hulkenburg is not far

:33:52. > :33:55.behind Sebastian Vettel. Incomes Nico Rosberg with his final stop. He

:33:56. > :34:01.needs to make sure he does not break the pit lane speed limit. It would

:34:02. > :34:10.not be a good time for him to do so. Lovely work by the team. All looking

:34:11. > :34:18.good for a one -to-macro finish. It is not something they have achieved

:34:19. > :34:29.in the modern in a row in Formula One. -- one-two finish. We have lost

:34:30. > :34:34.some six cars from this race. It has not all been down to the hybrid

:34:35. > :34:41.power units. We still have 16 cards running. Let's listen to the race

:34:42. > :35:00.leader. His last stop coming up as well. He only said it twice. They

:35:01. > :35:06.were saying three times before. Kimi Raikkonen is in third place.

:35:07. > :35:21.Currently he is chasing after Romain Grosjean. -- 12 days. In comes the

:35:22. > :35:29.race leader, Lewis Hamilton, for his final pit stop of the day. Only the

:35:30. > :35:36.Force India of Nico Hulkenberg has resolutely stuck too late to stop

:35:37. > :35:46.race. All goes cleanly there again. -- to a two stop race. It has gone

:35:47. > :35:52.perfectly ripe for Lewis Hamilton. He is on his way once again with

:35:53. > :35:56.five laps to go. No problems at all for the British driver, who looks

:35:57. > :36:04.set to take his first win since Hungary last year. After that, it

:36:05. > :36:11.was Sebastian Vettel all the way until the start of this season.

:36:12. > :36:16.Romain Grosjean just keeps his former team-mate behind. Last year

:36:17. > :36:23.they worked together at Lotus. Daniel Ricciardo is in. It looks as

:36:24. > :36:27.though it could be fine. They may just retire the car. It gives an

:36:28. > :36:35.opportunity for a gearbox change as well. Alonso has chased down Nico

:36:36. > :36:39.Hulkenberg. His position is under threat from the Ferrari. I do not

:36:40. > :36:49.think he has that higher grip against the Ferrari. It is just a

:36:50. > :36:55.matter of time, surely. 1.8 seconds faster than the previous lap. Where

:36:56. > :37:06.will he pick his spot? Will he wait for the DRS son? Is Hulkenburg going

:37:07. > :37:14.to slither and slide a bit too much? -- DRS zone. The top speed for

:37:15. > :37:22.Felipe Massa has gone up to about 202 mph. Out gets Daniel Ricciardo.

:37:23. > :37:34.He does add his name to the list of retirements. Max Chilton is the

:37:35. > :37:38.final runner. Has the Ferrari got the straight-line speed with the DRS

:37:39. > :37:50.to overtake the Force India? TEAM RADIO: Valterri Bottas is

:37:51. > :37:55.faster than you, do not hold him up. You are faster than Felipe Massa,

:37:56. > :38:01.overtake him. We laugh because there was a very famous radio message to

:38:02. > :38:09.Felipe Massa about Alonso being faster than him at Hockenheim a few

:38:10. > :38:15.years ago. He sees the Force India still in his way. He comes back in.

:38:16. > :38:22.Oh, no, Hulkenburg will not give it up easily. No reason why he should

:38:23. > :38:27.but, in the end, he cannot fend off the Ferrari any longer. They gave

:38:28. > :38:34.each other plenty of space but he defended as much as he could. Not

:38:35. > :38:42.enough grip left in the tyres. A pretty impressive two-stop strategy

:38:43. > :38:50.from Hulkenburg. Jenson Button is more than 40 seconds behind him.

:38:51. > :38:55.Battery Bottas is closing up to the back of Felipe Massa. -- Valterri

:38:56. > :39:04.Bottas. He may well be challenging into Turn 1. Felipe Massa is having

:39:05. > :39:10.to access the command from Williams. He is still in front of Valterri

:39:11. > :39:17.Bottas. Jenson Button is just in front. Valterri Bottas has closed

:39:18. > :39:23.the gap. Felipe Massa is probably of the opinion, I am losing performance

:39:24. > :39:27.because I am in the dirty air of McLaren in the front. It would make

:39:28. > :39:32.sense from an 18 point of view to allow him to have a go. If he cannot

:39:33. > :39:36.do anything, they can always switch back the running order on the last

:39:37. > :39:48.lap. Team orders are allowed in Formula One. I'd Hamilton is

:39:49. > :39:54.destroying everybody else. --. That is faster than most people are

:39:55. > :39:59.doing. Mercedes are just monitoring the pace advantage they have. He is

:40:00. > :40:08.13 seconds down the road of his team-mate. He has better tyres

:40:09. > :40:12.because he made a later pit stop. Perhaps they should have said that

:40:13. > :40:19.in the first place. Hearing someone is faster than you gets you going.

:40:20. > :40:25.The terminology is the same as was used in the Hockenheim event. I

:40:26. > :40:30.imagine Felipe Massa may have given a bit of a twitch when he got the

:40:31. > :40:36.message from his engineer. Much more accurate information the second time

:40:37. > :40:43.around. We're waiting for Hamilton to cross the line of Lap 53. Last

:40:44. > :40:47.year 's Grand Prix was spectacular when it came to rivalry between

:40:48. > :40:55.team-mates in the case of Red Bull for the victory. This is about

:40:56. > :41:03.seventh place. Felipe Massa is new to the team and Valterri Bottas in

:41:04. > :41:11.his second season. He has crossed the line with a 13 second advantage

:41:12. > :41:19.over his team-mate. He had only used 91.5% of available fuel. He has been

:41:20. > :41:24.incredibly efficient. Kimi Raikkonen is chasing Romain Grosjean still. He

:41:25. > :41:30.has not got past him and is about to be lapped by Sebastian Vettel. He

:41:31. > :41:35.did not use DRS. I wonder if there was a problem. He may be getting a

:41:36. > :41:40.bit distracted by all of this head. Kimi Raikkonen will have to let him

:41:41. > :41:46.through, as the leader comes past. He is very good of getting out the

:41:47. > :41:51.leaders ways, as we saw earlier on. Immediately he moves to the inside

:41:52. > :41:55.and lets the Red Bull come past. The gap between Nico Rosberg and

:41:56. > :42:03.Sebastian Vettel, it has now climbed nine seconds. In this last bit, he

:42:04. > :42:06.is still looking after the engine and has opened the gap. He has

:42:07. > :42:14.opened the gap. TEAM RADIO: Lewis, you are the

:42:15. > :42:23.fastest man on track. Look after the car. I hear you. They all want to

:42:24. > :42:28.get the lot of fastest lap. That means something to them. Sebastian

:42:29. > :42:36.Vettel gets that. I am sure Hamilton is anxious to take fastest lap. The

:42:37. > :42:39.Williams are together once again. We saw some smoke from the shard and

:42:40. > :42:46.that was Felipe Massa locking up with his desire to keep his

:42:47. > :42:49.team-mate behind him. Valterri Bottas cuts back in. The most

:42:50. > :42:56.important thing is they do not hit each other. Two Williams in the top

:42:57. > :43:01.ten is what Claire Williams once. It would be a nightmare if they

:43:02. > :43:05.actually take each other out. Felipe Massa is not at all interested in

:43:06. > :43:12.listening to the team instruction. That will be an awkward debrief

:43:13. > :43:15.later. This track seems to throw up these team situations. We had it

:43:16. > :43:23.with Red Bull last year but also with Mercedes. With the big DRS son

:43:24. > :43:32.coming up, it looked like Valterri Bottas was short on the brakes.

:43:33. > :43:37.There is still some anxiety at Mercedes. Kimi Raikkonen will need

:43:38. > :43:42.to make a move. He tries to go down the inside. The good effort by

:43:43. > :43:46.Romain Grosjean in a car that has struggled them in the opening two

:43:47. > :43:55.Grand Prix is. He is determined to at least a ahead of the Ferrari.

:43:56. > :44:00.Kamui Kobayashi is in 13th place. That means they would match Marussia

:44:01. > :44:05.in terms of results. That would give them a boost after a tough start for

:44:06. > :44:10.themselves and the non-finish in Australia. Lewis Hamilton looking

:44:11. > :44:13.totally in control of this race. Nico Rosberg sitting pretty in

:44:14. > :44:23.second position. It is looking as though Mercedes are heading for a

:44:24. > :44:28.one-two finish. It has been a perfectly organised race by

:44:29. > :44:33.Mercedes. Lewis Hamilton wins in Malaysia! It is his first victory on

:44:34. > :44:39.the Sepang International circuit. His first victory since Hungary in

:44:40. > :44:47.2013. Here comes his team-mate, Nico Rosberg. It is a one-two for

:44:48. > :44:54.Mercedes. Bad is the first time since the Italian Grand Prix in

:44:55. > :44:59.1955. They have come into this race better prepared than any other team.

:45:00. > :45:04.Romain Grosjean fends off Kimi Raikkonen and holds on to 11th

:45:05. > :45:07.place. That will give later something to smile about but

:45:08. > :45:12.delightful Mercedes. We're still waiting to see what happens with the

:45:13. > :45:19.Williams tussle between Billy Paymaster and out three Bottas. He

:45:20. > :45:28.has not found a way through. -- Valterri Bottas. Sebastian Vettel

:45:29. > :45:33.has come through in third. Fernando Alonso has finished fourth.

:45:34. > :45:38.Hulkenburg, the only driver on 82 stop strategy. He has finished in

:45:39. > :45:43.fifth place. They have beaten McLaren and Williams. That is major

:45:44. > :45:46.result. McLaren were points leaders in the Constructors' Championship

:45:47. > :45:51.but they will have two cars finishing in the top ten. Jenson

:45:52. > :45:58.Button in six. Seventh place goes to Felipe Massa. Two Williams in the

:45:59. > :46:05.top ten and two McLarens in the top ten. Once again, Daniil Kvyat picks

:46:06. > :46:15.up points. He finished in tenth. Lewis Hamilton has taken victory.

:46:16. > :46:24.Team radio you have done the job. Really grateful for the job, thank

:46:25. > :46:28.you so much perfect results. Their 15th win in Formula One history.

:46:29. > :46:39.This is a team that has evolved out of the Ron grand prix team, winning

:46:40. > :46:45.here in 2009. -- Brawn. It is Mercedes with the power unit, the

:46:46. > :46:48.chassis design and web are sponsors having their home race on this

:46:49. > :46:53.occasion, this is a major result but Sebastian Vettel, solid third place

:46:54. > :46:58.and after all the problems in testing, that is a good result.

:46:59. > :47:05.TEAM RADIO: Were not yet where we want to be, we still need to

:47:06. > :47:10.improve. But we will get there. That was a good race from Sebastian

:47:11. > :47:14.Vettel. Very solid. Started with that difficult qualifying session

:47:15. > :47:21.and he got himself a good slot on the grid. At various points he did

:47:22. > :47:27.push Nico Rosberg. We were wondering if he was letting him get close but

:47:28. > :47:29.closer than you would think. I think that Nico Rosberg is clearly not as

:47:30. > :47:40.comfortable with the balance this weekend. This weekend, Lewis

:47:41. > :47:47.Hamilton has lived dominant in the Mercedes team. Rosberg still leaves

:47:48. > :47:51.the World Championship because no points for Lewis Hamilton in

:47:52. > :47:57.Australia. Still in front when you count up all of those points. Maybe

:47:58. > :48:02.not the result he would have liked but that will do for now. And Lewis

:48:03. > :48:10.Hamilton getting his head rest away and climbing on board the Mercedes.

:48:11. > :48:14.And making the most of the moment, it has been awhile since he has been

:48:15. > :48:19.able to do this. At one stage last year, they were in such great shape

:48:20. > :48:26.but they only had one victory in his first season with the team. I think

:48:27. > :48:29.there could be a lot more this year! Great to see the energy bursting

:48:30. > :48:39.through, he is so gentle and quiet anomaly. He is in his element. He

:48:40. > :48:51.absolutely loved that. That is nice to see. They are getting on well. It

:48:52. > :48:56.looks more and more about these but Red Bull cannot be discounted, they

:48:57. > :49:03.were in the hand. Fernando Alonso having a good look at the Red Bull.

:49:04. > :49:07.And the Mercedes! He never stops looking for any advantage. Fourth

:49:08. > :49:10.place, Fernando Alonso. Lewis Hamilton the winner. Sebastian

:49:11. > :49:26.Vettel in third. Grosjean, fending off Kimi Raikkonen

:49:27. > :49:32.until the end. Good result for Kamui Kobayashi and Caterham. Marcus

:49:33. > :49:44.Ericsson completing a grand prix for the first time in his career. Long

:49:45. > :49:49.line of retirements. You must feel for Daniel Ricciardo, disqualified

:49:50. > :50:13.in Australia and out of luck with problems in the pits here. That was

:50:14. > :50:59.a long race! You get an idea of just how hot it

:51:00. > :51:07.is. As the guys try to wipe themselves down. It is easier to

:51:08. > :51:11.cope with when you have just one. Paddy on the right, the man who

:51:12. > :51:17.moved from McLaren to Mercedes and is very much the technical boss of

:51:18. > :51:23.the team, he shares the duties of leading with Toto Wolff, but he is

:51:24. > :51:28.on the business management side. Leading a team of very impressive

:51:29. > :51:32.people. They have such a strong line-up, some of the best engineers

:51:33. > :51:38.in the business. And look at what that means. I wonder if he is on the

:51:39. > :51:44.phone to the Board of Directors! Some of them are here! Malaysia is a

:51:45. > :51:48.very big market for them, they will try to get some launches with this

:51:49. > :51:54.grand prix. Win on Sunday and sell on Monday. Sebastian Vettel, onto

:51:55. > :51:58.the podium. He might not have finished in Australia, or Lewis

:51:59. > :52:04.Hamilton, but the cream rises to the top. Nico Rosberg, victory in

:52:05. > :52:10.Australia and second place here. Brilliant start to the season. No

:52:11. > :52:13.one had any answer for Lewis Hamilton today. It was a dominant

:52:14. > :54:12.victory in the end, by 17 seconds. So, Lewis Hamilton soaking up the

:54:13. > :54:17.atmosphere. There has been a drought in terms of victories for the 2008

:54:18. > :54:25.world champion but he has put that behind him. His first win of 2014.

:54:26. > :54:30.His second win with this team since moving across from McLaren. The

:54:31. > :54:39.construct as trophy, picked up by the chief race engineer at Mercedes.

:54:40. > :54:50.-- Constructors'. He was with Jenson Button in-lap 2009 winning year. He

:54:51. > :55:00.has tasted success before. -- in that. Winning and a second place.

:55:01. > :55:06.What will this rivalry be like between these guys who grew up in

:55:07. > :55:16.Cork racing and shared hijinks. Sebastian Vettel, third place. --

:55:17. > :55:21.kart racing. No points in Australia for Red Bull but they have picked up

:55:22. > :55:27.reasonable points from Sebastian Vettel. No points from Daniel

:55:28. > :55:32.Ricciardo, and it looked like he would have happily finished in

:55:33. > :55:36.fourth place. His problem is promoting Fernando Alonso into that

:55:37. > :55:41.position. And Hulkenberg also scoring extremely effectively.

:55:42. > :55:49.Beating the likes of Jenson Button, Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas.

:55:50. > :55:52.Kevin Magnussen in the points once again and Daniil Kvyat, impressing

:55:53. > :55:58.many people with his ability to score points in the opening races.

:55:59. > :56:06.Hopefully we can get a chance to hear from the top three any moment.

:56:07. > :56:09.-- in any moment. The track temperature is never really dropped

:56:10. > :56:15.below 45 degrees during the race and it is still very high humidity but

:56:16. > :56:28.the rain stayed away and we had a dry race from start to finish. The

:56:29. > :56:33.microphones coming out. And Lewis Hamilton will give us his thoughts

:56:34. > :56:44.in terms of how this was, to take the victory. And actor Benedict

:56:45. > :56:51.Cumberbatch will do the interviews. Well done! Happy to see you. I will

:56:52. > :56:58.stand here because you are tolerant than me. Lewis Hamilton, big cheer!

:56:59. > :57:05.Congratulations. The hat trick, pole position, best lap time, and here

:57:06. > :57:09.you are, number one. It is incredible, after such a difficult

:57:10. > :57:15.weekend, it was a long winter and we have a great crowd today and for the

:57:16. > :57:19.sponsor, who worked hard to give us this, I feel so grateful.

:57:20. > :57:27.Particularly after such a tragedy three weeks ago. I want to dedicate

:57:28. > :57:32.this to the families. You are covered and champagne rather than

:57:33. > :57:43.sweat but one commentator said it was incredibly hot here. Mid-50s, 35

:57:44. > :57:46.degrees. What was that like? You are sweating before you get into the

:57:47. > :57:51.car. It is trying to keep your body as cool as possible and keeping your

:57:52. > :57:57.focus. The team were just spot on with all of those pit stops and with

:57:58. > :58:02.the cooling and the timing. And the information I was getting was just

:58:03. > :58:09.spot on. It seems much clearer, you can hear the radio. Is that because

:58:10. > :58:13.the car is quieter? Yes, they are quieter and most of the noise is the

:58:14. > :58:23.wind but otherwise, what a great car! Great job from everyone.

:58:24. > :58:27.Congratulations. Lewis Hamilton! Congratulations. Nico Rosberg. That

:58:28. > :58:33.was a fantastically exciting opening. You pressed right to the

:58:34. > :58:39.inside. Did you feel Sebastian on your shoulder? That was such a hard

:58:40. > :58:43.line. Again, thank you to my engineer, we have worked together

:58:44. > :58:48.well and we had a great start and that allowed me to go into second

:58:49. > :58:53.place. Turn three, I went sideways, plenty of action but it worked out

:58:54. > :58:58.well and from then on I was chasing Lewis Hamilton but he was too quick.

:58:59. > :59:04.Superb run, congratulations. One more thing, Malaysia, you can be

:59:05. > :59:09.proud because your company has taken us to the front of Formula One. You

:59:10. > :59:15.can be really proud. They have given us the best oil and fuel. Brilliant!

:59:16. > :59:22.Sebastian, congratulations. First podium. You have won here last year

:59:23. > :59:33.in the rain and that was interesting. How didn't work this

:59:34. > :59:37.time? It was dry last year as well. The start was not very good. I was

:59:38. > :59:46.surprised to see Nico Rosberg on my right. I do not know. I thought I

:59:47. > :59:51.had a good start. Nico Rosberg was on the right and it was quite

:59:52. > :59:57.tight. Daniil Kvyat was coming as well as I was trying to get past

:59:58. > :00:02.Nico Rosberg and I lost a place. I was trying to get as close as I

:00:03. > :00:06.could to Nico Rosberg. At one stage, we were evenly matched but it is

:00:07. > :00:12.like he found another gear. In the end, I was trying to take the car

:00:13. > :00:25.home. Daniil Kvyat did not make it for a couple of reasons. It is

:00:26. > :00:30.good. -- Daniel Ricciardo did not make it for a couple of reasons.

:00:31. > :00:42.You'll agree your champion in Malaysia today. Your champion in

:00:43. > :00:46.Malaysia today. The rivalry is beginning to brew. No doubt the Red

:00:47. > :00:52.Bull steam roller could be getting back into action later in the year.

:00:53. > :01:02.Textbook driving today from Lewis Hamilton. Domination for Mercedes.

:01:03. > :01:07.You cannot but think there will be more race wins for Lewis Hamilton.

:01:08. > :01:12.He has had a serene calmness about him all weekend. The way he handled

:01:13. > :01:17.the changing conditions in qualifying. He controlled the pace

:01:18. > :01:21.all the way. Nico Rosberg looked dominant in Australia. You wonder

:01:22. > :01:27.what would have happened had Lewis Hamilton not had the issue. Lewis

:01:28. > :01:38.Hamilton looked perfectly fine, not very sweaty. Congratulations! What

:01:39. > :01:44.an exciting day for you! A bit hot. I am very happy. A lot of stress in

:01:45. > :01:50.the race. David knows how many things can go wrong in a race car.

:01:51. > :01:57.What were you stressed about? The car braking. I was stressed about

:01:58. > :02:03.accidents and rain. We knew we had pace to win. It was a matter of

:02:04. > :02:12.deciding, can you play out the pace and get to the finish? The thing we

:02:13. > :02:16.were asked was the one-two. We did not manage to achieve that in

:02:17. > :02:20.Melbourne. That is what we wanted this weekend. At this point, we are

:02:21. > :02:29.feeling very happy and very relieved that made it all happen. A fantastic

:02:30. > :02:33.result. We were getting a graphic for the first time showing the

:02:34. > :02:42.percentage of fuel used. That does not say whether it is kilograms or

:02:43. > :02:47.not. With the 100 kilos you are allowed to use, presumably you try

:02:48. > :02:55.to use all of that. Are you coming in not carrying as much fuel during

:02:56. > :03:00.the Grand Prix? This new formula is really all about efficiency. The

:03:01. > :03:05.thing that is not intuitive is that, actually, the better your engine,

:03:06. > :03:10.the more efficient it is. The more efficient it is, the better it is

:03:11. > :03:15.and the better the lap time and the less fuel you use. Historically, it

:03:16. > :03:19.has not been an efficiency formula. The quicker cars tended to use more

:03:20. > :03:26.fuel, as we know generally Bejewelled Road car. Quick red card

:03:27. > :03:38.use more fuel. -- with Your Road car. We were managing the fuel well.

:03:39. > :03:44.We had a bit of pace in hand to manage that. It was all good. A lot

:03:45. > :03:48.of people are talking about having the engine is turned down and

:03:49. > :03:56.managing fuel. Does it take away any of the element of racing and the

:03:57. > :04:02.excitement? None whatsoever. This is just the same as it always was. Some

:04:03. > :04:07.slightly different aspects to the game. It gets all compensated every

:04:08. > :04:13.year. That is the real beauty and have such a high level of interest.

:04:14. > :04:17.People enjoy the complexity. They enjoyed watching it as well and

:04:18. > :04:23.trying to understand that. The racing is just the same. Lewis was

:04:24. > :04:28.at the front. He was in total command of the race. It was proper

:04:29. > :04:34.race driving. That was all normal stuff. It was incredible technology

:04:35. > :04:38.and an incredible day for Mercedes. I really do want to thank everybody

:04:39. > :04:45.that has been involved in putting this together. There are many people

:04:46. > :04:58.back in the UK and in Germany and in Malaysia with our partner Petronu --

:04:59. > :05:06.Petronus. Ross paid big -- played a big part in getting to where we are

:05:07. > :05:12.today. All those people were part of making that history today. I would

:05:13. > :05:18.like to thank everybody. You have 17 more races to go. It is a very long

:05:19. > :05:21.season. Congratulations for today. Paddy talking about Ross Brawn who

:05:22. > :05:28.left Mercedes at the end of the season. I think we can grab

:05:29. > :05:41.Christian Horner. I know you would rather have had the one-two. Will

:05:42. > :05:46.you take third place? To be on the podium and to have had the race we

:05:47. > :05:50.had was a good performance. We know we have a long way to go.

:05:51. > :05:57.Congratulations to the guys at Mercedes. We have plenty of work to

:05:58. > :06:00.do. It seems as though the gods were conspiring against Daniel today.

:06:01. > :06:06.Talk is through the problem that occurred. It does not look like the

:06:07. > :06:11.car has gone on to the front jack properly. The gunman is not totally

:06:12. > :06:16.happy. Daniel knew straightaway. He was told to stop the car. We did not

:06:17. > :06:20.want a repeat of what happened last year. You can see immediately the

:06:21. > :06:26.front left has not located properly. We had to recover the car

:06:27. > :06:30.and that was the race over. Do you think the damage to the front wing

:06:31. > :06:35.was done at the pit stop? We think it may have been done on the front

:06:36. > :06:40.Jack. Whether it was after car recovered rather than at the stop,

:06:41. > :06:46.we do not know. We need to look at the video evidence. It is likely to

:06:47. > :06:52.have happened on the Jack. There was a warning for Sebastian Vettel to

:06:53. > :07:03.stay off the kerbs. Good stuff to see them not going wheel-to-wheel.

:07:04. > :07:07.Daniel is the real deal, isn't he? He had a great few corners. That is

:07:08. > :07:16.what he was employed to do. He was a quality act. I had been nothing but

:07:17. > :07:23.impressed by. A lot more to come from him. -- by him. Both guys had

:07:24. > :07:30.good starts. He commits himself to the inside. He passed Fernando

:07:31. > :07:38.Alonso. He managed to get a Ban on Sebastian Vettel through turns to

:07:39. > :07:45.and three. He braved it out. He nearly had a go at Nico Rosberg. It

:07:46. > :07:54.was a stunning first few corners from Dan. It did not finish to well

:07:55. > :07:59.for him unfortunately. Daniel, for the first 40 laps, things are going

:08:00. > :08:05.quite smoothly but after that, it all went wrong. How you?

:08:06. > :08:10.Definitely, I feel disappointed. It was looking like we could have a

:08:11. > :08:14.solid points finish in the race was going pretty well at the start. It

:08:15. > :08:23.was really good. I made a couple of positions. I was starting to mix it

:08:24. > :08:27.up at the front. It is fun being up there, fighting for the top few

:08:28. > :08:33.spots. At the last pit stop we had the issue and we had a puncture, a

:08:34. > :08:38.friend wing failure. A few other things and then the stop. The race

:08:39. > :08:48.ended quickly, from looking good to looking pretty bad in a short manner

:08:49. > :08:59.of time. Is the polite term is character building. Can you take

:09:00. > :09:03.positive experiences from this? Deep down I am really disappointed. At

:09:04. > :09:08.the same time, there is a little bit in me that is happy. I have come out

:09:09. > :09:13.in the first two races of the season and come out how I wanted to. I

:09:14. > :09:19.still want to improve. I started off on the right fit. I am leaved for

:09:20. > :09:25.that. A little bit of luck will turn around and I will get my revenge and

:09:26. > :09:29.get some points. You are mixing it up, you are passing your team-mate.

:09:30. > :09:35.It is a merely feisty start to your Red Bull career. A lot of people

:09:36. > :09:44.probably do not expect to because I'll always be happy guy and smiling

:09:45. > :09:52.I think I am nice for that. -- I am always the happy guy. You will see

:09:53. > :09:58.me up there plenty of times this year. You said on your team-mate

:09:59. > :10:02.year, if there is something going on, you want to be a part of it. You

:10:03. > :10:09.get a sense he will be in the thick of it and he is up for it. He did

:10:10. > :10:14.some solid performances for Toro Rossos. He was not put off having to

:10:15. > :10:25.go down the inside of Lewis Hamilton. He is very impressive. It

:10:26. > :10:29.is respectable but determined. I have not seen the weak performance

:10:30. > :10:34.from Nico Hulkenberg all the time he has been in Formula One. It is

:10:35. > :10:42.amazing he has not found himself a bigger team, with respect to Force

:10:43. > :10:49.India. These kinds of results will help him in his search for a

:10:50. > :10:53.championship winning team. Kimi Raikkonen had a nightmare race. How

:10:54. > :10:59.did you feel about the drive-by Alonso? He did everything he could

:11:00. > :11:05.with the machinery he had. I did not see any frustration. It was a good,

:11:06. > :11:10.solid result. Jenson Button managed to keep the Williams at bay. Did

:11:11. > :11:22.that go as expected, better than expected? I think better than

:11:23. > :11:24.expected after Friday. A few tweaks since then and I think a good

:11:25. > :11:31.controlling raised by the whole team. The guys did a great job with

:11:32. > :11:35.the strategy and understanding the race. I had to really control where

:11:36. > :11:39.I could push and not push. If you push and tried to get away from the

:11:40. > :11:43.cars behind, who are quicker than you, you cannot get back on the

:11:44. > :11:50.straight. It was a real thinking ways for me. Mentally, it was bloody

:11:51. > :11:54.tiring. It is not where we want to finish but you can only do as well

:11:55. > :11:58.as you can. I think we got the best out of the car but the need some

:11:59. > :12:06.upgrades. A quick apology for that language. He is a bit frustrated.

:12:07. > :12:16.Are they going to be any upgrade soon? Every week we bring upgrades.

:12:17. > :12:21.We need massive step forward to up. Is it fair to say you were further

:12:22. > :12:29.away from the performance level you had in Australia? I do not think so.

:12:30. > :12:35.It is more a mix of conditions, which does not help. Thank you very

:12:36. > :12:40.much today. We will be back with the straight after the show on the red

:12:41. > :12:46.button. We have our forum. Only a week to wait until the next race. We

:12:47. > :12:52.will be in Bahrain. Take a note of the new times. It is an evening race

:12:53. > :12:57.so we will be with you on BBC Two for the highlights on the 6th of

:12:58. > :13:01.April and on the fifth as well. Happy Mother's Day! It is all about

:13:02. > :13:50.Lewis Hamilton. Thank you for watching.

:13:51. > :14:00.Lewis Hamilton wins in the lazier! -- Malaysia! Next time on Formula

:14:01. > :14:01.One, res three,
