:01:04. > :01:09.Good morning. Not long now until free practice one, but take a look
:01:10. > :01:14.around, it is obvious that Formula One is back in Europe. These are
:01:15. > :01:17.understated little homes of the homes for people like Fernando
:01:18. > :01:24.Alonso, the drivers and teams, for all the European Grand Prix. We just
:01:25. > :01:30.saw Fernando Alonso, local hero, hard to believe it is one year since
:01:31. > :01:36.it won this race last year. Incredible to believe it was 2005 at
:01:37. > :01:41.2006 when he won the championship. Ferrari need an upturn, they need to
:01:42. > :01:52.get some amends this season. We have left those big, impressive new
:01:53. > :01:57.circuits, come back to the home of Formula One, a circuit they know
:01:58. > :02:01.well. Not with this new car, they have been testing in Jerez and in
:02:02. > :02:06.Bahrain, it is the first time they will get these new cars onto this
:02:07. > :02:11.circuit. It is a venture into the unknown, even though they have lots
:02:12. > :02:15.of historic data. Mercedes have dominated so far this season, you
:02:16. > :02:38.can see that in both the drivers' and constructors' championship.
:02:39. > :02:46.It seems incredible to be saying that Ferrari have not won a race
:02:47. > :02:52.since this time last year. In the commentary box today, Ben Edwards
:02:53. > :02:56.and Tony, you can get in touch with us, they will do their best to read
:02:57. > :03:04.out as many tweets as they can, but it will be a busy first session.
:03:05. > :03:11.Yes, we have that extra set of tyres that the teams get for the first 30
:03:12. > :03:16.minutes. Yes, normally we come here and do a lot of testing, but we have
:03:17. > :03:23.not this time, errors and two in Bahrain, they will want to get out.
:03:24. > :03:30.not this time, errors and two in skies, temperatures of 20 degrees.
:03:31. > :03:33.You can leave a comment on the BBC Sport Facebook page as well as
:03:34. > :03:37.contact us on Twitter. Alan, Lotus needs to get things together, but
:03:38. > :03:40.contact us on Twitter. Alan, Lotus they have always said this would be
:03:41. > :03:46.the start of their championship. A lot of people are relying on this.
:03:47. > :03:47.The problem is that everybody else's championship started in
:03:48. > :03:52.Australia, and we have seen better performances of late, especially
:03:53. > :03:57.from Romain Grosjean, who has settled into accepting the car was
:03:58. > :04:01.not quick enough, but they have got a long way to go to get to the point
:04:02. > :04:09.where they were at the end of 2013. Taking a look at Daniel Ricciardo,
:04:10. > :04:12.incredibly impressive, especially in comparison to Sebastian Vettel.
:04:13. > :04:17.Vettel has a new chassis this weekend, a lot of new parts on the
:04:18. > :04:18.car, but as you say, everyone does. What will happen in this session?
:04:19. > :04:23.car, but as you say, everyone does. it about bedding in?
:04:24. > :04:26.car, but as you say, everyone does. teams who are not 100% sure it is
:04:27. > :04:30.going to make their car faster will be doing back-to-backs, Ferrari have
:04:31. > :04:35.additions to their aerodynamics that they will be checking between the
:04:36. > :04:40.two cars, but some of the others, if they have a good feeling in
:04:41. > :04:43.correlation between wind tunnel and circuit, will have the confidence to
:04:44. > :04:46.go for it. One of them is Red Bull, they have historically been able to
:04:47. > :04:50.build things on and go faster, but they need to do this weekend - this
:04:51. > :04:57.is a circuit where they can start to take the charge to Mercedes. We will
:04:58. > :05:00.head out to the pit lane, and we will leave you with Ben and Tony in
:05:01. > :05:08.the pit box. BEN: Cars are already begin to make
:05:09. > :05:12.their way down the pit lane to get ready for the very start of this
:05:13. > :05:17.session, which has just begun. Let's just say, a little bit of action
:05:18. > :05:21.straightaway, Marcus Ericsson will never out ahead of everybody else in
:05:22. > :05:25.the Caterham. Nico Hulkenberg making his way down to the practice start
:05:26. > :05:29.area, just slightly off the main exit of the pits, to give everyone
:05:30. > :05:34.else who wants to go straight out a nice clear run onto the track. And
:05:35. > :05:39.everybody coming out, a little bit of heat haze from the exhaust as
:05:40. > :05:43.they head down the pit lane, and absolutely gorgeous morning here in
:05:44. > :05:48.early summer in the northern part of Spain. We're just outside of
:05:49. > :05:52.Barcelona, of course, alongside the motorway which connects France with
:05:53. > :05:56.Catalunya, Madrid and Zaragoza. This track, as we have said, very well
:05:57. > :06:09.known to all the teams and drivers thanks to the testing they have done
:06:10. > :06:13.here plans, and the racing in lower categories. Absolutely, and it makes
:06:14. > :06:17.such a difference. Having said that, I think Kvyat has been
:06:18. > :06:21.incredibly impressive, when you look at what he has done with the
:06:22. > :06:25.circuits, not to say Kevin has not been. It does make a difference when
:06:26. > :06:30.you come to somewhere you have driven before, it will be
:06:31. > :06:33.interesting to see how they go. Both Toro Rosso and McLaren need to try
:06:34. > :06:38.to improve, although Daniil Kvyat has scored points on three occasions
:06:39. > :06:41.already. Kevin Magnussen started so brilliantly at the first Grand Prix
:06:42. > :06:45.and Australia, but since then McLaren, in the last couple of
:06:46. > :06:50.races, things have not gone to plan, clutch problems in Bahrain, lack of
:06:51. > :06:55.performance in China. Jenson was talking about that yesterday, Jenson
:06:56. > :07:00.Button saying that the circuits particularly in China just did not
:07:01. > :07:03.suit their car. Yeah, he said there was a lot of straight and they were
:07:04. > :07:07.having problems generating temperature, which is a perennial
:07:08. > :07:11.problem for Jenson. He has quite a delicate feel, and when he cannot
:07:12. > :07:17.generate temperature at the front end, he struggles. Kevin also said,
:07:18. > :07:21.we just need more downforce. A couple of the third drivers are out
:07:22. > :07:24.this weekend for the first session, the Friday morning session often
:07:25. > :07:39.sees the development drivers getting an opportunity to get behind the
:07:40. > :07:46.wheel, and this is Felipe Nasr driving the Williams alongside
:07:47. > :07:48.Felipe Massa, the two Felipes on track this morning! Williams have
:07:49. > :07:53.been scoring consistently, so much better than we have seen in recent
:07:54. > :07:59.years, where they have really been struggling. Williams currently
:08:00. > :08:01.sitting in sixth, but there have been disappointments, Massa lost a
:08:02. > :08:09.chance to score decent points because of an operational error in
:08:10. > :08:13.the pit stop. Absolutely, and if you think of the start that Valtteri
:08:14. > :08:17.Bottas had, impressive in Australia, they have had little things going
:08:18. > :08:23.wrong which has spoiled the start of the season for them. Bottas is one
:08:24. > :08:26.of four drivers to have scored in every round, but they have the basis
:08:27. > :08:34.of a good car, and they can be optimistic. Williams won here with
:08:35. > :08:38.Maldonado two years ago, and then it all went awfully patient, and now
:08:39. > :08:44.they are back challenging again, great to see. Looking at the nose on
:08:45. > :08:49.the Force India, it looks like it has a second level to it, a lot of
:08:50. > :08:55.experimentation will be done here today, and you can see evidence of
:08:56. > :09:00.the green paint that is being put on the back of the Ferrari, this paint
:09:01. > :09:03.that basically follows the air flow as it goes through and around the
:09:04. > :09:08.circuit we will have a good look at that as they come back into the pits
:09:09. > :09:12.and a clean it all off. It gives them some idea of the correlation
:09:13. > :09:16.between what they are seen in the wind tunnel and what they are hoping
:09:17. > :09:19.to see on track. Felipe Massa made some interesting comments, saying
:09:20. > :09:23.that at Williams so far this year everything they have brought to make
:09:24. > :09:26.the car go faster has indeed made it go faster, and he said that was not
:09:27. > :09:31.happening at all at Ferrari last year. Every time they came with
:09:32. > :09:35.something new on the Ferrari, they basically said it did not work and
:09:36. > :09:40.have to go back to what they were already running. Interesting
:09:41. > :09:43.comments, Ferrari went through a stage of having correlation problems
:09:44. > :09:48.with the wind tunnel, an ongoing process to get on top of, and they
:09:49. > :09:53.felt they had done that. I saw that, a little dig from Felipe. Yes, but I
:09:54. > :09:59.think things are better now, the new wind tunnel is up and running at the
:10:00. > :10:02.Rhino, so now they have got over that problem that they are now
:10:03. > :10:07.delivering parts of the car that are working, and if anybody needs them,
:10:08. > :10:11.Kimi Raikkonen has had a very difficult start to the season,
:10:12. > :10:15.returning to his old employers. He has not had a great feel for the
:10:16. > :10:18.car, he was locking up in the first couple of races, then complaining
:10:19. > :10:23.about the steering feel, which is a particular sensitivity for them. We
:10:24. > :10:28.have the same problem at Renault, and we talked to James Allison about
:10:29. > :10:32.that, he said it is very intricate, not an easy fix, quite difficult to
:10:33. > :10:36.do, and it looks like he may have the same issue that they are trying
:10:37. > :10:41.to sort for him. A tricky start, I do not think his results have been
:10:42. > :10:46.reflective of Kimi at all. That is right, I think we will see a lot
:10:47. > :10:49.more from him. Nico Rosberg, world championship leader into this race,
:10:50. > :10:53.despite having been beaten by his team-mate three in a row. We have
:10:54. > :10:59.had this little gap, let's remind you of the season. Yellow flags
:11:00. > :11:05.flashing down at that area of the circuit as well. No, it is the
:11:06. > :11:08.green, that is all right, it is showing them they are allowed to
:11:09. > :11:12.keep on the pace. A reminder of what has been happening so far this
:11:13. > :11:15.season, Mercedes have been dominating, starting in Australia,
:11:16. > :11:20.where they were one and three on the grid, Hamilton had a problem with
:11:21. > :11:24.his car right from the start, did not get off the line well. Rosberg
:11:25. > :11:29.went on to win, Hamilton and early retirement, as was Sebastian Vettel.
:11:30. > :11:33.What surprised us was the pace of the other Red Bull, Daniel
:11:34. > :11:36.Ricciardo, after a miserable testing episode in the winter, they got
:11:37. > :11:40.their act together. Let's take a little look at
:11:41. > :11:42.their act together. Let's take a doing a moment ago, using the kerb,
:11:43. > :11:47.we will see plenty of that this morning. The other main headlines,
:11:48. > :11:51.the performance of McLaren, because new driver Kevin Magnussen scored a
:11:52. > :11:53.the performance of McLaren, because stunning podium on his debut,
:11:54. > :11:57.second-place finish in the end of the end after Ricciardo was excluded
:11:58. > :12:02.for using too much fuel during the race. Despite that great drive from
:12:03. > :12:08.Ricciardo, he was not able to bank the points. McLaren ended up second
:12:09. > :12:12.and third. In Malaysia, the Red Bull of Vettel was on the front row,
:12:13. > :12:15.Hamilton disappeared into the distance, Rosberg lost time on the
:12:16. > :12:21.first lap, got back to second place, never really able to match
:12:22. > :12:26.Lewis Hamilton on that occasion. It was a 1-2 for Mercedes, Vettel
:12:27. > :12:32.finished third. Team or the controversies at Williams, Ricciardo
:12:33. > :12:36.had problems with a pit stop. -- team order. That affected him at the
:12:37. > :12:41.next race, where you have a ten place penalty. Bahrain was the race
:12:42. > :12:44.of the season so far, and I was talking to a seasoned journalist
:12:45. > :12:48.yesterday who has watched Formula One since the 1960s and remembers
:12:49. > :12:51.all the great races, and he says that, to him, was one of
:12:52. > :12:55.all the great races, and he says races that will be remembered. I
:12:56. > :12:56.would agree, everybody talked about the Mercedes domination, but you
:12:57. > :13:04.would agree, everybody talked about only need two cars to make a
:13:05. > :13:06.would agree, everybody talked about go at it, and it was just a fabulous
:13:07. > :13:10.race, and a significant go at it, and it was just a fabulous
:13:11. > :13:12.to hear the talk about them concentrating on the tracks
:13:13. > :13:15.to hear the talk about them not strong at, and the admitted that
:13:16. > :13:20.Nico was better than him around Bahrain. That was Nico's pole
:13:21. > :13:26.position, he delivered that, one against the head, and he obviously
:13:27. > :13:31.thought he had done its there, a key win for Lewis. Brilliant race all
:13:32. > :13:34.round, superb podium for Sergio Perez in third place, Ricciardo
:13:35. > :13:38.recovered pretty well from his ten place penalty to finish in fourth,
:13:39. > :13:42.but the Ferrari looked very slow. That changed a little bit at the
:13:43. > :13:47.last Grand Prix in the quartet we have had so far, having a good look
:13:48. > :13:53.around the Sauber here. Mercedes, once again, wet qualifying, only one
:13:54. > :13:57.dry qualifying so far this year. Mercedes were first and fourth,
:13:58. > :13:59.Hamilton on pole, Rosberg did not get it together in wet qualifying.
:14:00. > :14:04.Hamilton dominated in China, it took get it together in wet qualifying.
:14:05. > :14:08.Rosberg a while, after a poor start, to get into second place, and
:14:09. > :14:11.meanwhile Alonso had delivered a brilliant first lap and managed to
:14:12. > :14:15.overcome Vettel brilliant first lap and managed to
:14:16. > :14:20.stops. Alonso took his first podium of the year, Ferrari looking much
:14:21. > :14:23.stronger in China, Vettel still finding things difficult as he was
:14:24. > :14:28.passed by his team-mates, Daniel Ricciardo, for fourth place. So that
:14:29. > :14:32.is a summary of where we have got to coming into this fifth round of the
:14:33. > :14:36.championship, Mercedes on top, the battle for third really between
:14:37. > :14:41.Ferrari and Red Bull. Red Bull have had the edge mostly, but last time
:14:42. > :14:45.out in China, Ferrari claimed that podium spot. It was interesting
:14:46. > :14:52.listening to Ben Ando after that race, because people said, is that
:14:53. > :14:57.indicative of what you can do, are you back? He said, actually, we were
:14:58. > :15:02.ninth and tenth in the race before, his inference was, that was me, and
:15:03. > :15:07.it was a fantastic race. Brilliant race from him, down to the pits, as
:15:08. > :15:15.cars have done their first installation lap, you are at
:15:16. > :15:22.Mercedes. Mercedes are dominant, but they are producing the important
:15:23. > :15:30.performance enhancements. A little bit of tickle on the front wing.
:15:31. > :15:33.Also they seem to have tightened up the engine cover for the cooling at
:15:34. > :15:39.the back. That's important around here because that's aerodynamic
:15:40. > :15:43.efficiency and the hot races like Bahrain, they have gone, Malaysia
:15:44. > :15:48.where you needed a lot of cooling, they are tightening the package up.
:15:49. > :15:53.Even though Mercedes are on top. They are marching ahead. We are
:15:54. > :16:00.expecting them to be top dogs. You can get in touch with us by tweeting
:16:01. > :16:04.us or you can comment on the BBC Sport Facebook page and the best of
:16:05. > :16:11.your comments will be included on the BBC Sports website page. Andy
:16:12. > :16:15.saying, " Morning all, do you think anyone can catch Mercedes?" Our
:16:16. > :16:19.feeling at the moment, Andy is they are going to be updating as much as
:16:20. > :16:24.everybody else and Tony, although this track isn't as engine dominated
:16:25. > :16:30.as some, the aerodynamics of this track is crucial. Mercedes were on
:16:31. > :16:33.poll last year? Absolutely. It is funny because you hear people
:16:34. > :16:36.saying, Alonso said yesterday, there is not many straights, this is
:16:37. > :16:40.better for us. He is thinking it will help Ferrari, but it seems to
:16:41. > :16:47.be, a lot of straights. I remember when we used to talk about Barcelona
:16:48. > :16:51.having this huge, long straight. Maybe their prospective has changed
:16:52. > :17:02.with all the new circuits, but it will play to Mercedes' strengths.
:17:03. > :17:07.What do you Recon, Alan With the big long corners like Turn 3 and Turn 4,
:17:08. > :17:12.historically that means that when the car understeers it doesn't eat
:17:13. > :17:16.up the rear tyres and we saw the Ferrari car going forward last year
:17:17. > :17:21.and we saw the Mercedes which did eat up the rear tyres going
:17:22. > :17:25.backwards. Mercedes improved their rear tyre consumption, but generally
:17:26. > :17:29.this circuit has got more corners than straights and if you do have a
:17:30. > :17:32.car that's maybe a little bit numb on the front axle then it works
:17:33. > :17:35.around here. And that's something we're going to
:17:36. > :17:39.be seeing throughout the course of this weekend. I think you guys moved
:17:40. > :17:44.to Ferrari. What are you seeing there? Well, Ben, what we're seeing
:17:45. > :17:48.is something which looks space age! If you can see the one in the
:17:49. > :17:53.distance, that's the Lotus rig and if you spin back round and look at
:17:54. > :17:57.the Ferrari one which is popular, Alan, this looks incredible. Does it
:17:58. > :18:00.make you fast? Well, it does look good. There is no question about it.
:18:01. > :18:03.The important thing, is it efficient? Does it actually improve
:18:04. > :18:06.the pit stops because that's what this is about? I think it actually
:18:07. > :18:10.looks a little bit more space age than anything else, but what's
:18:11. > :18:13.interesting as well, you have got a camera up here that's recording
:18:14. > :18:21.every pit stop and therefore, they can then download that data.
:18:22. > :18:25.Incredible light system as well? Red means stop and green means go. The
:18:26. > :18:30.driver focuses his eyes on this and then, he goes when this goes green.
:18:31. > :18:35.Whatever happens, he goes when that goes green. We have seen in the past
:18:36. > :18:40.that Ferrari, I remember Felipe Massa lead k the Grand Prix and that
:18:41. > :18:48.went green and they weren't ready so they have got to get this 100%. They
:18:49. > :18:52.won't miss their pits. Ben. It is like a piece of modern art
:18:53. > :18:57.won't miss their pits. Ben. It is that. It is a really impressive
:18:58. > :19:03.piece of kit. Typically Formula One. You can get that the other Formula
:19:04. > :19:09.One teams will see that and think, "How can we better that?" There will
:19:10. > :19:13.be a few more appearing. Normally when you look at the other rigs, you
:19:14. > :19:16.see the air bottles clearly and that structure covers it up and makes it
:19:17. > :19:21.look stunning indeed. Indeed, the whole track is looking impressive as
:19:22. > :19:25.we've arrived here in Barcelona. It is a popular venue. The teams, as we
:19:26. > :19:30.heard, didn't test here at the beginning of the year so it is their
:19:31. > :19:35.heard, didn't test here at the first trip to run the full hybrid
:19:36. > :19:42.power units for the first time. The V6 engines that have been brought
:19:43. > :19:46.in, turbo charged, but more electrical energy being generated.
:19:47. > :19:50.Under braking and electricity being generated by the exhaust system, the
:19:51. > :19:55.exhaust gases, the excess energy in the exhaust gases not only being
:19:56. > :20:01.used to feed the turbo, but an electrical generator as well. A
:20:02. > :20:04.combination of electrical that is brand-new, of course, still to
:20:05. > :20:09.Formula One and we are seeing amazing performance and we are
:20:10. > :20:12.seeing races being covered only slower, about 20 seconds in China
:20:13. > :20:17.than the previous year and on a third less fuel. So hybrid systems
:20:18. > :20:23.in Formula One really are working and delivering good reliability
:20:24. > :20:26.already, Tony? That's been the surprising thing. In testing we were
:20:27. > :20:29.talking about the potential disasters, will anybody finish the
:20:30. > :20:35.race? All this thing. But, you know, the first four races, it has been
:20:36. > :20:39.exemplary. It is a commendable reflection of the ability of these
:20:40. > :20:45.guys in Formula One. Yes, absolutely. Brilliant engineers.
:20:46. > :20:48.Daniil Kvyat is the only driver to have set a time. Apologies for no
:20:49. > :20:51.graphics of times appearing on the screen. There is a problem.
:20:52. > :20:56.Hopefully that will be sorted. But Daniil Kvyat is fastest, but the
:20:57. > :21:01.only one who set a time so far. Everyone else has done an
:21:02. > :21:06.installation lap. It looks as if off cars are up and running and everyone
:21:07. > :21:09.will start to put laps together on this extra set of tyres. We're 16
:21:10. > :21:14.minutes into this session. That means, of course, that they have got
:21:15. > :21:18.another 14 minutes or so before we get them having to change the tyres.
:21:19. > :21:24.We are seeing a Lotus on track. What is the news at Lotus,
:21:25. > :21:27.We are seeing a Lotus on track. What Maldonado is on track. Romain
:21:28. > :21:31.Grosjean, a lot of work going on his carment they have had a
:21:32. > :21:34.Grosjean, a lot of work going on his that this is the race that they were
:21:35. > :21:36.focussing on to make those improvements. They almost
:21:37. > :21:40.focussing on to make those disregard the first four races.
:21:41. > :21:46.Romain Grosjean yesterday was pretty upbeat all things considered. It was
:21:47. > :21:49.a gearbox, an unusual issue, that cost him or it stopped him getting
:21:50. > :21:53.in the points in China, but yesterday, speaking to Romain
:21:54. > :21:54.Grosjean, he seemed in a good place and he is thinking that things
:21:55. > :21:57.Grosjean, he seemed in a good place well, should and need to go better
:21:58. > :22:00.this well, should and need to go better
:22:01. > :22:07.them up for the rest of the season. So he is looking for a good points
:22:08. > :22:11.haul this weekend. The gearbox problem last time out denied what
:22:12. > :22:15.could have been possible points. Maldonado we will be keeping an eye
:22:16. > :22:19.on because of that stunning performance he put in here two years
:22:20. > :22:23.ago, when he was driving for Williams. The first ever Venezuela
:22:24. > :22:27.to win a Grand Prix. He wasn't fastest in qualifying, but in the
:22:28. > :22:29.end, he was, because Hamilton set the pace that day.
:22:30. > :22:31.end, he was, because Hamilton set never had a poll position here.
:22:32. > :22:35.That's something to beat. He never had a victory, but he has been
:22:36. > :22:40.winning races that he has not won in the past this year. Let's ride with
:22:41. > :22:50.Maldonado. The graphics are working so we can see the times coming up on
:22:51. > :22:55.screen. Maldonado does love this circuit. Nearly cursed him there!
:22:56. > :22:59.The commentators curse for Maldonado. A twisty section here. It
:23:00. > :23:05.is all about traction. This is where the Mercedes was particularly good.
:23:06. > :23:08.No, it is a lot about traction. And when you come here, you bring the
:23:09. > :23:11.little updates and you just hope it has improved the package, but
:23:12. > :23:13.funnily enough this year, people have been saying that the advances
:23:14. > :23:18.will hopefully come from the have been saying that the advances
:23:19. > :23:21.units that's where the most time is to be had. In the past, it was a
:23:22. > :23:25.three week gap and it to be had. In the past, it was a
:23:26. > :23:30.chance to do aero updates after the fly away races and as Alan was
:23:31. > :23:34.saying in the lead-in, there is nothing earth shattering here, it is
:23:35. > :23:39.flicks and little changes, but they hope that the main progress will be
:23:40. > :23:42.made by particularly the energy recovery system part of the power
:23:43. > :23:52.units, I think in the case of Ferrari at Renault. Well, Button has
:23:53. > :23:58.gone fastest. Jenson Button has done a 1.30.7. Maldonado, we saw the time
:23:59. > :24:04.on board a moment ago. A lock-up for Fernando Alonso.
:24:05. > :24:06.on board a moment ago. A lock-up for tyre. All of them will be on the
:24:07. > :24:11.hard tyre and throughout the first tyre. All of them will be on the
:24:12. > :24:14.practise they will only use the hard tyre. You can see Alonso is really
:24:15. > :24:19.attacking the track at the moment. More rubber goes down as we go
:24:20. > :24:22.attacking the track at the moment. car, the handling of the car, but
:24:23. > :24:23.attacking the track at the moment. Alonso never wastes any time just
:24:24. > :24:29.driving around, he is Alonso never wastes any time just
:24:30. > :24:36.attacking. Just to go back to that Maldonado week. You said what a good
:24:37. > :24:39.drive that was, he had this man threatening him and Alonso has the
:24:40. > :24:48.reputation for being the most relentless race driver out there and
:24:49. > :24:51.he has to cope with that and deliver that win. It was Frank's 70
:24:52. > :24:55.birthday. It was a shock afterwards when they had the pit fire. Oh, that
:24:56. > :25:05.was dreadful. That was dreadful. Yes. That's right. Alonso goes
:25:06. > :25:10.fastest, 1.29.8. We have a mirror broken on the Force India there of
:25:11. > :25:14.Sergio Perez. It is flapping around in the wind. Only just attached. He
:25:15. > :25:18.is trying to get it under control! He has got hold of it now thankfully
:25:19. > :25:22.and he is bringing the car back in. That's an unusual sight on a Formula
:25:23. > :25:30.One car to see the mirror coming loose. Yes, we don't use them only
:25:31. > :25:34.for shaving in! How much will that inconvenience him?
:25:35. > :25:39.It is more an irritation for the eye that you see it out of the corner of
:25:40. > :25:45.your eye than anything else. All you see is the rear wing in your main
:25:46. > :25:48.sponsor or any car behind you. I would have thought he will probably
:25:49. > :25:55.try and stick a hand out to rip it off and get rid of it. He is holding
:25:56. > :26:01.on to it now. He is having to get his right-hand across to the paddle
:26:02. > :26:06.on the back left of the steering wheel. We will have a replay of the
:26:07. > :26:10.moment it happened and it just popped off and started flapping
:26:11. > :26:16.about in the breeze, but still attached by cable. That's the first
:26:17. > :26:22.run for Perez. Let's see what Alonso did. This was a moment ago, a
:26:23. > :26:26.lock-up and that's a classic clays place to lock that inside wheel down
:26:27. > :26:30.the hill into turn five. You see that often. Using a bit of curve,
:26:31. > :26:34.Alonso, he has been attacking right from the word go. Racing in his home
:26:35. > :26:40.nation, always seems to adjust a little bit of spirit. The new boss
:26:41. > :26:46.at Ferrari, the man who took over last time out in China, had a little
:26:47. > :26:50.bit afchance to get -- of a chance to get his feet under the table.
:26:51. > :26:53.bit afchance to get -- of a chance Alonso says he has been talking to
:26:54. > :26:57.everybody. He brought the drivers in and talked to the engineers. He is
:26:58. > :27:02.trying to get an idea of what's going on and where any problem areas
:27:03. > :27:06.might be and he is beginning the process trying to understand where
:27:07. > :27:13.Ferrari are and how did they get to the stage of beating these guys in
:27:14. > :27:18.particular, Mercedes. TEAM RADIO: It is very hot. It is
:27:19. > :27:22.hot for Rosberg around his seat. That's causing him concern. A huge
:27:23. > :27:27.amount of stuff is packaged around the driver. It could be anything. An
:27:28. > :27:31.awful number of batteries that can heat that area up. Keep an eye on
:27:32. > :27:36.that. The energy store, the batteries located in the floor of
:27:37. > :27:40.the car, under the fuel tank. Around the side of the driver, you have the
:27:41. > :27:45.cooling areas and the radiators and there are more radiators on the cars
:27:46. > :27:50.now. They have a special radiator which cools the air going into the
:27:51. > :27:56.turbo charger, in the Mercedes, that's behind the driver's shoulders
:27:57. > :28:00.and one of the clever parts about this year's Mercedes, it is
:28:01. > :28:05.integrated into the chassis. That's one of the other elements of the
:28:06. > :28:12.advantage they have. It is something the others can't hit back with until
:28:13. > :28:15.next year. A perfect example of why it is a big advantage this year to
:28:16. > :28:23.have the integration between the chassis and the engine. Certainly,
:28:24. > :28:28.you know, a works package properly integrated. Ferrari had the
:28:29. > :28:35.opportunity to do. Red Bull not quite so much. Here we are with
:28:36. > :28:39.Sebastian Vettel. They work closely together and Red Bull people have
:28:40. > :28:43.been going to Renault to try and help on the software issues, trying
:28:44. > :28:46.to really get on top of where they have been and Renault are confident
:28:47. > :28:53.coming into this event that they have made progress. So we're going
:28:54. > :28:56.to have to wait and see if that's the case. Also, reversion to a
:28:57. > :29:00.different chassis this weekend for Sebastian Vettel. I thought it was
:29:01. > :29:06.going to be a brand-new chassis, but it is a chassis they used in testing
:29:07. > :29:15.this year. Absolutely. It is interesting that because. He
:29:16. > :29:18.referred to it yesterday as a sanity check. It is a case of going back
:29:19. > :29:21.and evaluating and seeing if there is a problem. He said he didn't
:29:22. > :29:24.think there was a problem with the chassis, but it is interesting about
:29:25. > :29:28.the mindset. It plant add little seed in his -- planted a little seed
:29:29. > :29:32.in his head and they are going back to compare. Yes, very interesting.
:29:33. > :29:38.Hamilton and Rosberg separated by a tenth and Vettel's first flying lap
:29:39. > :29:43.some way off what they have done. 2.9 seconds off what the Mercedes
:29:44. > :29:48.are doing. Mercedes at the top and Ferrari next up. Ferrari next up
:29:49. > :29:52.behind the two cars. Button more promising up there in fourth, but it
:29:53. > :29:56.is early days. It is hard to read much into the whole of this session
:29:57. > :29:59.let alone the early times that come i It is just an indicator and they
:30:00. > :30:04.have a few more minutes to use this first set of tyres before they have
:30:05. > :30:10.to hand them back to the FIA. A couple more of your comments and
:30:11. > :30:13.questions coming in using the hashtag or on the BBC Sport
:30:14. > :30:24.Facebook. Thanks for your comments. We have
:30:25. > :30:29.got a stoppage for Vettel, he has just pulled over to the side of the
:30:30. > :30:33.road. That is a bit of a shock, Sebastian Vettel, on one of his
:30:34. > :30:38.early runs, he has completed four laps so far, and his car has come to
:30:39. > :30:41.a stop. This is not what Red Bull Racing I've now, they need the
:30:42. > :30:48.mileage, they want to check out the improvements. -- this is not what
:30:49. > :30:55.Red Bull need right now. This is the first thing that can happen, wasting
:30:56. > :30:58.valuable testing. He puts the steering wheel back on, get a bit of
:30:59. > :31:04.help from the marshals to push the car to a place of safety. Nice to
:31:05. > :31:08.see he has got involved in that, not just let them do it. Thing is not
:31:09. > :31:13.getting any easier for the reigning world champion. That is not the
:31:14. > :31:19.start of the weekend that you want, you want to get the miles in. What
:31:20. > :31:25.do we make about the strategy group plans for the cars to spark, glowing
:31:26. > :31:32.breaks. Surely F1 has more urgent issues to focus on, ie cost, says
:31:33. > :31:36.Amit. An interesting question, the strategy group is the elite teams
:31:37. > :31:39.that sits down and talk about what should be happening in the future,
:31:40. > :31:44.and there had been some comments that they want to make it more
:31:45. > :31:47.exciting, more dramatic, maybe bring back cars parking down the straight
:31:48. > :31:53.and various other elements. What are your thoughts on this? I think that
:31:54. > :32:00.is all a bit knee-jerk, and you have to consider the entire package.
:32:01. > :32:01.is all a bit knee-jerk, and you have People are saying to bring back
:32:02. > :32:07.these things, but you have to be careful you do not
:32:08. > :32:10.and make another problem. Allan, what are your thoughts on this? I
:32:11. > :32:13.think what are your thoughts on this? I
:32:14. > :32:21.principle that you have to look at it as a long-term thing, we are very
:32:22. > :32:24.principle that you have to look at One. The Bahrain race was one of the
:32:25. > :32:27.best ever, all sitting on the edge of our seats right to the end.
:32:28. > :32:34.Things like making the cars spark a little bit, that is a reasonably
:32:35. > :32:38.simple thing to do, but we should let the systems settle
:32:39. > :32:40.simple thing to do, but we should we make any big judgments. Lewis
:32:41. > :32:45.Hamilton just running off the track with a minor lock-up, he is fastest
:32:46. > :32:53.in this session. Red Bull getting a bit of a boost, Ricciardo has gone
:32:54. > :32:59.third, minute-macro28.7. Dump one .20 8.7.
:33:00. > :33:04.It does not look as though anybody has certainly closed the gap
:33:05. > :33:10.massively, Jenson Button is currently fifth, Felipe Nasr is the
:33:11. > :33:15.Williams driver in sixth place, if you are unfamiliar with that
:33:16. > :33:20.abbreviation, it is Felipe Nasr, who is racing in GP2 this weekend. He
:33:21. > :33:24.has got a busy time! Kimi Raikkonen puts his Ferrari up into pit, much
:33:25. > :33:29.closer to Fernando Alonso. Joining us from the pit wall, we saw a shot
:33:30. > :33:32.of him earlier, Christian Horner from Red Bull.
:33:33. > :33:32.of him earlier, Christian Horner you? Could be
:33:33. > :33:39.of him earlier, Christian Horner Yeah, we are trying to understand
:33:40. > :33:44.what has happened to Sebastian's car out there. Any word from him as to
:33:45. > :33:49.what was going on? Total electrical shutdown, not quite sure what has
:33:50. > :33:52.caused it. That is radio and everything. Hopefully it is
:33:53. > :33:58.something reasonably simple, if we can get the car back and get out in
:33:59. > :34:00.the session again. Explain the situation with his chassis,
:34:01. > :34:03.originally we thought a brand-new one, but you are using one from
:34:04. > :34:08.testing. That is right, we make one, but you are using one from
:34:09. > :34:11.between four and five each year, they are circulated and rotated
:34:12. > :34:20.dependent on mileage and usage, and it was an opportune moment to change
:34:21. > :34:26.the chassis, chassis four, and he has now gone into the first one we
:34:27. > :34:30.produced. You would not normally do that, would you? Normally you would
:34:31. > :34:43.rotate to a new chassis, what is the thinking? When the driver has
:34:44. > :34:49.issues, when he's not comfortable, we try to support him, change the
:34:50. > :34:53.chassis. There might be a slight difference is that Sebastian gets a
:34:54. > :34:55.different feel from it. Talk about the Renault updates, they have been
:34:56. > :35:00.sounding quite the Renault updates, they have been
:35:01. > :35:03.this race, making big improvements, what is the story there?
:35:04. > :35:05.this race, making big improvements, stopwatch never lies, as you know.
:35:06. > :35:08.this race, making big improvements, We will reserve judgment until we
:35:09. > :35:12.see what happens on track. They are certainly working very hard, it is a
:35:13. > :35:19.very complicated card this year, we have got some ground to make up to
:35:20. > :35:22.the two Mercedes powered cars. So hopefully we have got something that
:35:23. > :35:29.can get as a little bit closer to them this weekend. Your own Red Bull
:35:30. > :35:33.team are working very closely with Renault now in terms of trying to
:35:34. > :35:37.get the next development from these engines. Very much so, the electrics
:35:38. > :35:41.are such a big part of how the engines operate, and the power unit
:35:42. > :35:45.management, engine recovery is a big element, and we have found ourselves
:35:46. > :35:50.on the back foot coming into the year, so all the resource that we
:35:51. > :35:54.can muster up and support the Renault guys with, we are doing our
:35:55. > :35:59.very best to support our colleagues over in Paris. Great, thank you for
:36:00. > :36:04.joining us, Christian, hopefully we will be speaking to later, best of
:36:05. > :36:09.luck getting the car back. Thank you. The track has gone a bit
:36:10. > :36:13.quieter, because those first tyres have been used, and also everybody
:36:14. > :36:18.is now just learning from what they have done already. Most have
:36:19. > :36:23.completed between five and ten laps, a little replay of Sebastian
:36:24. > :36:27.from a moment ago learning how to use a fire extinguisher, by the look
:36:28. > :36:31.of it. Maybe things were getting a little bit hot under the collar.
:36:32. > :36:35.Yeah, he was definitely a little concerned about things at the back
:36:36. > :36:40.of the car with the fire extinguisher, just in case something
:36:41. > :36:43.caught fire. A lot of heat being developed under there. Sebastian
:36:44. > :36:46.Vettel has not had a brilliant start, Lee McKenzie caught up with
:36:47. > :36:49.him yesterday and really checked in with him as to whether he feels the
:36:50. > :36:56.season is going to be starting properly for him here in Barcelona.
:36:57. > :37:02.For sure, you know, we need to start somewhere, so the first couple of
:37:03. > :37:06.races, I think, overall were positive for us as a team. If you
:37:07. > :37:11.look where we were in winter testing, you know, we got some good
:37:12. > :37:16.results, but we want more. We are not here to do well, we are here to
:37:17. > :37:20.do better than anybody else. At the moment Mercedes is doing the best
:37:21. > :37:26.job out of all the teams, so we know that there is a big gap, but we are
:37:27. > :37:33.extremely hungry to come back and start beating them very soon. For
:37:34. > :37:39.sure, you cannot catch up within one race, but hopefully, you know, we
:37:40. > :37:43.will start on the right foot back in Europe. That was Sebastian Vettel
:37:44. > :37:50.speaking yesterday, and things have not started brilliantly for him. A
:37:51. > :37:53.message from a viewer, has Ricciardo's results of a Vettel
:37:54. > :37:59.taken the shine off his championship wins? Was car strength more
:38:00. > :38:02.important than driver ability? Over to you, Allan! He is certainly
:38:03. > :38:08.having a tough time at the moment, we were talking about Lotus, really
:38:09. > :38:15.pushing hard, and they are going to do the back-to-back, you can see on
:38:16. > :38:20.the wing endplate, they have got two development parts that deflect the
:38:21. > :38:23.airflow around the wheel. The top one, which they have gone back to
:38:24. > :38:28.the previous spec, that is not on there. They are a big bit behind but
:38:29. > :38:32.still pushing on all the details moving forward. That is not the only
:38:33. > :38:38.thing they are pushing forward with, but it is certainly one of them. The
:38:39. > :38:44.Red Bull is now being brought back. Bradley is asking us, we know Lotus
:38:45. > :38:49.savings are improving, but do we think that is true? I think they
:38:50. > :38:53.will improve, because they are coming from a low starting point,
:38:54. > :38:56.having missed the first preseason test. The potential is there for
:38:57. > :39:01.them to make more progress than anybody else. I hope they do,
:39:02. > :39:05.because last year they finished as Red Bull's only real threat, and
:39:06. > :39:10.with Romain Grosjean doing so well, it would be nice to see him back at
:39:11. > :39:14.the sharp end. Yes, he was the star of the latter part of last year, the
:39:15. > :39:19.only one who took the challenge to the leaders, and it seems a long
:39:20. > :39:25.time ago now. Interesting, has its taken the shine off Vettel?
:39:26. > :39:30.Yesterday, Daniel Ricciardo was asked whether he now considers
:39:31. > :39:35.insult the Red Bull team leader, at which he smiled and said, not yet, I
:39:36. > :39:40.don't think. But people are asking more questions, and it is definite
:39:41. > :39:45.that last year Sebastian got to grips with that car a lot better
:39:46. > :39:55.than Mark Webber did, the blown exhaust car, and he was able to
:39:56. > :39:59.drive that in a way that suited him, and now that has gone and he is
:40:00. > :40:03.finding this car difficult. He's not getting the most out of the tyres,
:40:04. > :40:09.and Christian Horner himself said that is an unusual situation for
:40:10. > :40:13.Sebastian. Hopefully he can address that, but I think that is where the
:40:14. > :40:18.problem has been. Daniel has been better at that. Daniel spoke to lead
:40:19. > :40:22.yesterday, that would be a feature on the Formula One coverage over the
:40:23. > :40:26.weekend, something to watch out for, but a great start to his career with
:40:27. > :40:31.Red Bull. Looking inside the Caterham pit, Marcus Ericsson, the
:40:32. > :40:35.Swedish driver in his first season of Formula One. His car was on pole
:40:36. > :40:40.position in GP2 last year here, leading at one stage, but contact
:40:41. > :40:44.with another car put him out of the race. Slightly revised nose on the
:40:45. > :40:49.Caterham, it still has the different approach to the other cars with that
:40:50. > :40:55.rather flat surface, but a bit more depth to the elements that joins
:40:56. > :40:59.onto the front wing. In Mercedes, things looking very composed and
:41:00. > :41:02.good at the moment. Bob Bell is still there at the moment, he is
:41:03. > :41:05.going to be working through much of the next few months but he has
:41:06. > :41:11.actually given in his notice to quit, but he is still around. A very
:41:12. > :41:16.strong member of that impressive technical department at Mercedes at
:41:17. > :41:18.the moment. Absolutely, they had a five aside the more technical
:41:19. > :41:24.directors, which was highly impressive! We gather that we are
:41:25. > :41:28.having some problems with sound, we sorry about that. Hopefully we can
:41:29. > :41:34.get that fixed as soon as is on. Hopefully it is not causing you to
:41:35. > :41:39.much... But we will be sounding it -- sorting it out as soon as we can.
:41:40. > :41:43.Work going on with the cars, and an opportunity for us to catch up with
:41:44. > :41:47.some of the comments drivers were making yesterday coming into this
:41:48. > :41:51.event. Nico Hulkenberg has been having a very good season so far, in
:41:52. > :41:56.the top six at every single event, fourth in the championship, ahead of
:41:57. > :42:00.both Red Bull drivers. But coming into this event, it is all about
:42:01. > :42:03.updates on the cars up and down the pit lane to try to improve the car.
:42:04. > :42:08.They have had a bit of time before this race to do it, and so we caught
:42:09. > :42:13.up with Nico Hulkenberg yesterday and asked how the updates might
:42:14. > :42:17.affect the order this weekend. It might change little bit in the
:42:18. > :42:22.midfield. You know, now we are talking a lot, I hear stuff like
:42:23. > :42:26.Sauber is bringing lots of stuff, but we won't really know until
:42:27. > :42:32.Saturday, really. And even Saturday is not the true teller, that will be
:42:33. > :42:37.the race. But for us, Mercedes, Red Bull, Ferrari, they are more or less
:42:38. > :42:41.battling in their own world, and our main competition out of these boys,
:42:42. > :42:46.we need to keep a good eye on Williams, McLaren, Sauber, Lotus. If
:42:47. > :42:49.we can beat them regularly, that is very good. I thought it was
:42:50. > :42:55.interesting that he included McLaren, as we look at the McLaren
:42:56. > :43:01.top brass, Sam Michael, Eric Boullier, Ron Dennis, he included
:43:02. > :43:05.McLaren in the group they are having to beat, because Force India are
:43:06. > :43:09.doing a better job. A sensational job when you consider their
:43:10. > :43:13.respective budgets, and they did it all last year. They have done a
:43:14. > :43:18.fabulous job, and it is a nice, effective car that looks after the
:43:19. > :43:21.tyres well, and it has got Nico Hulkenberg in the car, and the
:43:22. > :43:26.ingredients are there for them to have another impressive year, I
:43:27. > :43:31.think. He has had a top six results, Perez has been up and down, a
:43:32. > :43:32.nonstarter, a brilliant podium finish in Bahrain,
:43:33. > :43:38.nonstarter, a brilliant podium of a mixture, but nonetheless forced
:43:39. > :43:42.India are having a good, strong start to the season. Romain Grosjean
:43:43. > :43:48.doing a practice starts down the end of the pit lane. Very easy,
:43:49. > :43:51.composed, no problem. Maldonado is going to be doing much the same
:43:52. > :43:56.thing. It is nice to see Lotus at last going through the normal steps
:43:57. > :44:00.of a race weekend, because we have not seen them able to do it very
:44:01. > :44:06.often. Before, they were lucky to get to the end of the pit lane, but
:44:07. > :44:10.they are getting some milage on the Friday, Grosjean got more milage
:44:11. > :44:11.that anybody else. Finally they are getting the data, the systems
:44:12. > :44:16.checks, and hopefully, getting the data, the systems
:44:17. > :44:21.talking about, they will be back at the sharp end sooner rather than
:44:22. > :44:23.later. Allan and Lee have made their way to Mercedes, Martin has written
:44:24. > :44:29.to us, any exhaust that Mercedes are testing? I
:44:30. > :44:32.believe that will be tested this coming week. And on that theme, Mark
:44:33. > :44:35.says, any artificial fixes to coming week. And on that theme, Mark
:44:36. > :44:38.improve the show will not coming week. And on that theme, Mark
:44:39. > :44:46.with the viewers. Some thoughts from some of the guys writing to us. As
:44:47. > :44:50.you see right now, the Mercedes team have got Nico Rosberg's car up in
:44:51. > :44:52.the air, Nico as is Helmut off, he has been putting eye drops in,
:44:53. > :44:57.having a drink. They are doing something under the floor, they are
:44:58. > :45:02.a bit reticent to tell us what it is, but a few people are there,
:45:03. > :45:03.a bit reticent to tell us what it this will not be going out in the
:45:04. > :45:04.next ten or 15 minutes. this will not be going out in the
:45:05. > :45:09.now the circuit is not at its best, this will not be going out in the
:45:10. > :45:14.it is not really lost time. On the other side of the garage, Lewis
:45:15. > :45:16.Hamilton is intensely focusing on the data of what he has got to do
:45:17. > :45:21.later in the session. We heard the data of what he has got to do
:45:22. > :45:25.Rosberg complaining that the area around his seat was
:45:26. > :45:27.Rosberg complaining that the area Well, there is a lot of energy. You
:45:28. > :45:35.have got the battery system behind and the engine and even although it
:45:36. > :45:40.is not producing the revs did did in the past, there is a tremendous
:45:41. > :45:49.amount of energy. If there is a tiny hole, the heat will go into the
:45:50. > :45:56.driver's cockpit area. It is sunny and think about what it is like with
:45:57. > :46:01.the helmet and the overall. Look at the number of people in the Mercedes
:46:02. > :46:05.garage. If they had a pound for every person in there, they would be
:46:06. > :46:08.richer than they are. Lewis Hamilton is just getting out of his car at
:46:09. > :46:14.the moment. That's what is just getting out of his car at
:46:15. > :46:20.Formula One team is. There is experts in every area and there is
:46:21. > :46:24.the technical experts, but it is not a one-man band. There is no
:46:25. > :46:28.question. There is new parts getting lifted off and they are trying to
:46:29. > :46:32.cover what we're trying to show at the moment. But you can see there,
:46:33. > :46:37.they are just standing in front. They don't want the cameras to
:46:38. > :46:39.they are just standing in front. too close. It is understandable in
:46:40. > :46:42.the situation when they have got an advantage and they don't want to
:46:43. > :46:48.show the rest of the world what the advantage is even if it is not in
:46:49. > :46:51.this area of the it is a mind game just protecting what they have. The
:46:52. > :46:55.guy in the front, everybody wants to look at them and Red Bull on the
:46:56. > :46:59.other side are sitting further away and they have got the problems of
:47:00. > :47:05.their own right now with the issue that Sebastian Vettel had, but all
:47:06. > :47:09.eyes are on Mercedes and why they have their speed. We make a big
:47:10. > :47:14.issue about everyone bringing so many updates to catch Mercedes.
:47:15. > :47:20.Mercedes job is to bring their updates to stay so far ahead of the
:47:21. > :47:23.field and that sometimes is harder. It is easier when you have a huge
:47:24. > :47:28.time advantage over the rest of the field. They had two seconds
:47:29. > :47:32.advantage at some points in the first couple Grand Prix and with
:47:33. > :47:36.that in your pocket you can afford to be careful in your developments
:47:37. > :47:40.over the season. They will have an advantage, I'm sure it will be
:47:41. > :47:45.closer with Ferrari and with Red Bull catching up and the circuit
:47:46. > :47:49.characteristics suiting their cars more than the previous ones. When
:47:50. > :47:53.you have that advantage, you can pick and choose when you bring your
:47:54. > :47:58.updates. The pressure is on the others to catch up. When your car
:47:59. > :48:01.has been so dominant. Is there a fear of putting something on the car
:48:02. > :48:05.for the sake of putting something on the car and not getting it to work
:48:06. > :48:09.as well. Sometimes should you not just leave it, because it is about
:48:10. > :48:13.development Formula One, but they are so far ahead? Well, the
:48:14. > :48:17.advantage this team has they were out of the blocks earlier and better
:48:18. > :48:22.and more reliable than the opposition and they were able to
:48:23. > :48:25.understand their car earlier. They went to the first race in Australia
:48:26. > :48:29.and we had that damp and drying qualifying session, they knew what
:48:30. > :48:33.to do. Whereas for the others, it was a bit of a guess in what they
:48:34. > :48:37.were going to be doing and so from that point of view, Mercedes are a
:48:38. > :48:42.lot ahead in terms of their understanding of that new technology
:48:43. > :48:46.as Lewis Hamilton is still doing his little fixes. He is going through
:48:47. > :48:49.with someone there, they are playing with the steering wheel and
:48:50. > :48:53.therefore, I would assume at this stage, that he is having some
:48:54. > :48:58.explanations on various little settings that they are going to be
:48:59. > :49:02.working with in the next part of the session. We will let you know when
:49:03. > :49:06.the Mercedes are back out on track. The two Lotus cars are going around
:49:07. > :49:13.and Maldonado has gone third fastest which is impressive. 1.28.7.
:49:14. > :49:15.Grosjean has gone across the line 11th fastest. This
:49:16. > :49:19.Grosjean has gone across the line moment ago when he just outbraked
:49:20. > :49:22.himself a fraction into the final chicane. But otherwise, sorted it
:49:23. > :49:26.out. So that might have cost him time. But Maldonado has gone third
:49:27. > :49:31.fastest, but a lot of attention, as you say, will be on Mercedes this
:49:32. > :49:34.weekend, that battle between the two team-mates, a bit of debris being
:49:35. > :49:38.picked up on track, but Lewis Hamilton had a brilliant start to
:49:39. > :49:44.the season. There is no doubt about that as Tom caught up with him
:49:45. > :49:48.yesterday. Well, I mean, I mean I'm very grateful for the experience
:49:49. > :49:51.that I've had so far this year, to be able to come to races and know
:49:52. > :49:55.that you have a chance to fight and for the results that I've had, it
:49:56. > :49:58.has been an incredible experience. So I'm forever grateful for those
:49:59. > :50:04.and it has been a real blessing this year. So I'm counting my blessings
:50:05. > :50:07.and hoping that the future is still bright and it continues that way.
:50:08. > :50:12.Speaking to some of your rivals, they will throw the kitchen sink at
:50:13. > :50:16.this race, lots of new parts coming. How confident are you that Mercedes
:50:17. > :50:20.will maintain their advantage this weekend? Well, they are throwing the
:50:21. > :50:25.kitchen sink, we'll throw the bathtub. We will keep pushing and
:50:26. > :50:29.trying to improve and do better, but yeah, I mean, whatever they give,
:50:30. > :50:34.we'll give back just as much if not more, but we want that competition.
:50:35. > :50:38.We want people to be pushing. We want to be able to fight people. I
:50:39. > :50:43.feel this weekend, I don't know, what we've got in store. I know
:50:44. > :50:46.we've made a step as everyone normally does, but people are going
:50:47. > :50:50.to have to have made a significant step to have caught us.
:50:51. > :50:55.Well, he is talking with confidence there, isn't he, Tony, they are
:50:56. > :50:59.going to have to have made a significant step. You know there is
:51:00. > :51:02.more to come. The thing that illustrated the advantage was when
:51:03. > :51:06.we had the race where they had the safety car and they opened up a huge
:51:07. > :51:10.margin, they were over two seconds quicker. The gloves were off. You
:51:11. > :51:14.could see what they could. They were racing each other. That was the
:51:15. > :51:21.picture and I mean, try closing that down in a few races, it won't
:51:22. > :51:27.happen, will it? Comment from Dan, saying the Mercedes car is more
:51:28. > :51:33.dominant than Seb's Red Bull was. If Mercedes win, are people going to
:51:34. > :51:35.treat it with as much disdain? Hamilton has an effective team-mate
:51:36. > :51:40.and they have been allowed to race and that's the key. And talking of
:51:41. > :51:45.his team-mate, let's see what Nico Rosberg had to say to Tom yesterday.
:51:46. > :51:49.Tom starting the interviewing saying the last few races Hamilton had the
:51:50. > :51:53.rub of the green. I want to take the rub of the green
:51:54. > :51:57.back this weekend. It is very important and you know, I need to
:51:58. > :52:03.change the momentum around, you know. He had the result momentum to
:52:04. > :52:08.him lately and just like last year, it went to and from us I need to
:52:09. > :52:13.change it around and bring it back on my side and get the win. How can
:52:14. > :52:17.you do that? Is there something you can do as a driver to increase your
:52:18. > :52:24.pace? Just need to be on it. It's possible
:52:25. > :52:29.to beat him definitely. In I'm hon it and I get a good weekend then I
:52:30. > :52:32.can win and that's what I need to focus on and get it right this
:52:33. > :52:35.weekend. Nico Rosberg hoping to get it all
:52:36. > :52:39.right, but it hasn't been a perfect start to the weekend. Some issues
:52:40. > :52:43.there with his car at the moment, but the rivalry between them is what
:52:44. > :52:47.we can relish here and so far Tony, you know, Bahrain was the highlight
:52:48. > :52:51.of that, but let's not forget, he has the points advantage over Lewis
:52:52. > :52:57.Hamilton despite Lewis Hamilton's win? It could be 2-2. The Bahrain
:52:58. > :53:01.race could easily have gone his way and I said before that I think that
:53:02. > :53:05.was Lewis' race against the head. He conceded that Nico was quicker that
:53:06. > :53:10.weekend and yet, he won that. It is going to swing back and forth all
:53:11. > :53:14.the way through the season. The one I can't wait to go to is Monaco.
:53:15. > :53:18.That will be fabulous because they are both Monaco specialists. They
:53:19. > :53:26.both love the place and they have fought a tremendous battle through
:53:27. > :53:30.qualifying and Nico got it at 900ths sr or something. You only need two
:53:31. > :53:34.guys to make a race and we will see this through the year. Sebastian
:53:35. > :53:39.Vettel's car is back at the Red Bull pit. They maybe able to get him out
:53:40. > :53:43.in the latter part of this session. We were riding on board Jenson
:53:44. > :53:49.Button. It is encouraging from Button. He is sixth fastest. Let's
:53:50. > :53:52.run you through those times. Mercedes fastest, Hamilton ahead of
:53:53. > :53:57.Rosberg by three-quarters of a second to their nearest rivals and
:53:58. > :54:04.their nearest rival is Maldonado in a Lotus. Faster than the
:54:05. > :54:08.their nearest rival is Maldonado in lot. That does have some effect, but
:54:09. > :54:13.it is encouraging. Red Bull, Ferrari, as we would expect, two of
:54:14. > :54:18.them have been pretty close over the recent months. Then Button,
:54:19. > :54:26.Raikkonen is up there in the other Ferrari, Verne. Alan, you are at
:54:27. > :54:30.Ferrari now? Yes, we're down that. Kimi Raikkonen is in the pits and
:54:31. > :54:33.Alonso has gone out. There is a team that hopes to lift forward their
:54:34. > :54:36.performance here and they have done it with some aerodynamics.
:54:37. > :54:43.performance here and they have done see before the V-power, you have two
:54:44. > :54:48.slots in the bottom of the wing. Is on Kimi Raikkonen's car. He is go to
:54:49. > :54:51.go out. Fernando Alonso has gone out with only one slot. This team thinks
:54:52. > :54:54.go out. Fernando Alonso has gone out this will improve their performance
:54:55. > :54:59.over the lap, but they are not sure if it is too much drag or slow them
:55:00. > :55:02.down in the straight. They are doing a back-to-back before defining
:55:03. > :55:07.whether it is something they are taking forward into this afternoon's
:55:08. > :55:09.session. It is about testing different parts and bringing but
:55:10. > :55:15.parts to the track. Some more different parts and bringing but
:55:16. > :55:17.comments. Richard saying, "Do you think McLaren will be
:55:18. > :55:20.comments. Richard saying, "Do you it around?" Well, Richard, that's a
:55:21. > :55:25.question we are asking at the moment. They had a miserable time in
:55:26. > :55:27.China. But the track was front limited. The temperatures were cool
:55:28. > :55:29.and limited. The temperatures were cool
:55:30. > :55:34.They are hoping for better things. limited. The temperatures were cool
:55:35. > :55:37.now. He is seventh fastest. His team-mate, Kevin Magnussen, on a
:55:38. > :55:43.track, of course, that he raced on before which is a first as we
:55:44. > :55:48.mentioned. He won two of the World Series Renault races here to win the
:55:49. > :55:51.championship. He has got memories, Kevin Magnussen, the first time in
:55:52. > :55:53.the Formula One car and Button goes second fastest with that lap. That's
:55:54. > :55:57.encouraging. Mercedes second fastest with that lap. That's
:55:58. > :56:01.out for a while and the track is getting quicker and he is on a new
:56:02. > :56:05.set of tyres and that's encouraging. It is. As the weekend goes by,
:56:06. > :56:10.set of tyres and that's encouraging. get a good indication from Jenson's
:56:11. > :56:13.face as to whether they made any progress because he was down in the
:56:14. > :56:17.dumps at the last race and hopeful when they got here, this would suit
:56:18. > :56:20.the car better. It is promising, but there is a long way to go yet.
:56:21. > :56:26.the car better. It is promising, but Tomorrow afternoon we will get a
:56:27. > :56:30.proper indication of the situation regarding McLaren. Alonso attacking.
:56:31. > :56:40.He is on it. Every lap he does around this Caterham cat lun that
:56:41. > :56:47.circuit. Another DRA zone in the race. Looking on the thermal image
:56:48. > :56:51.camera. You are looking at how the heat builds up through the corners,
:56:52. > :56:55.through the long looping right-hand, you can see how the spread of
:56:56. > :57:00.temperature is good across the surface of the tyre. Now, this
:57:01. > :57:06.twisty section which finishes the lap. A complicated si cane that you
:57:07. > :57:11.have go -- chicane that you have to get the power on and again, a bit of
:57:12. > :57:17.correction. But, with these turbo charged engines and energy recovery,
:57:18. > :57:23.they have more power. TEAM RADIO: I have understeer.
:57:24. > :57:26.That's good news. It is probably doing what we expected. That's good.
:57:27. > :57:30.It is doing what they expected bearing in mind what change they
:57:31. > :57:37.made or new part they have added to that car. Alonso third fastest, but
:57:38. > :57:43.Button second quickest as we go on board with him and they have that
:57:44. > :57:47.non-score with both cars last time out, but McLaren should be able to
:57:48. > :57:52.bring themselves back up. A good first sector. The best of his so
:57:53. > :57:56.far. Not the fastest outright in the first sector. Alonso interestingly
:57:57. > :58:01.fastest in the first sector so far. You mentioned the non-score, they
:58:02. > :58:06.have had two in a row, haven't they? It is unusual for McLaren. That's
:58:07. > :58:10.right. Reliability in one race. It was clutch problems, wasn't it? They
:58:11. > :58:13.did admit they were experimenting with the clutch in that race in
:58:14. > :58:18.Bahrain and should have been able to score points there. But last time
:58:19. > :58:21.out, they just lacked pace. Well, it has been one of those seasons for
:58:22. > :58:26.Jenson Button where things have been up and down. Melbourne, of course,
:58:27. > :58:30.started off extremely well with a double podium finish, but things
:58:31. > :58:35.have been a little bit changeable ever since then. Let's catch up with
:58:36. > :58:41.what he had to say to Tom about that yesterday. For us, if you were
:58:42. > :58:46.Mercedes you expected them to be at the front for the next four races.
:58:47. > :58:49.For us, no, we expected to be more competitive. I think that weekend as
:58:50. > :58:53.a team, we did a great job on getting the best out of the car and
:58:54. > :58:57.everyone else has caught up now because they have found their feet.
:58:58. > :59:04.The last two races were up and down for us, you know. Bahrain we were
:59:05. > :59:06.quick. It is a limited quick and China it is
:59:07. > :59:09.quick. It is a limited quick and poor. It shows where our weaknesses
:59:10. > :59:15.is and the temperature change. We understand this car pretty well. We
:59:16. > :59:19.need more downforce. So more downforce required. This is a track
:59:20. > :59:24.that does test a car for downforce. Kevin Magnussen is the rooky driver.
:59:25. > :59:29.He is coming in from the Renault title win last year. He was elevated
:59:30. > :59:35.to one of the best teams in the business. The team is struggling
:59:36. > :59:39.over this period. Following on from Melbourne by Jenson Button was
:59:40. > :59:46.referring to in that interview. Magnussen tenth mastest, but Button
:59:47. > :59:49.-- tenth fastest. But Button fastest overall. We are seeing quicker
:59:50. > :59:53.times, but that's encouraging for Jenson Button and it does look as if
:59:54. > :59:57.McLaren have brought some updates that made a difference this time.
:59:58. > :00:01.They have been underplaying it in the press. Maybe they have decided
:00:02. > :00:06.not to shout too loud. There were occasions last year when they said
:00:07. > :00:10.we're going to do better and they weren't. Alonso on track. Let's see
:00:11. > :00:15.what this lap is going to be like. He is not actually on a particularly
:00:16. > :00:23.quick lap this time around. Maybe he is saving it up for the next one.
:00:24. > :00:27.Those two victories he has had around this vanished circuit have
:00:28. > :00:33.been the result of brilliant driving, but he has had a brilliant
:00:34. > :00:38.level of support here in Spain, and we would expect to see a massive
:00:39. > :00:43.crowd. Hopefully his podium finish last time out will encourage a few
:00:44. > :00:47.more Spanish runs out. Interesting crash helmet design for Adrian Sutil
:00:48. > :00:51.in the Sauber, a very different design for the German driver. We
:00:52. > :00:55.have the lightweight chassis is here this weekend, they have had to
:00:56. > :01:01.redesign the chassis slightly to try to meet the target weight this year.
:01:02. > :01:07.I would have thought they would take the paint of the helmet rather than
:01:08. > :01:14.do that! Adrian Sutil in difficulty because he is that much heavier that
:01:15. > :01:16.Esteban Gutierrez. It is tough, because any disadvantage is
:01:17. > :01:22.magnified, when you are talking about all the systems in the cars,
:01:23. > :01:29.you don't really want to be Adrian Sutil's weight. I think it should be
:01:30. > :01:38.legislated out so it is not a disadvantage. Every ten kilograms is
:01:39. > :01:42.about three seconds at lap, that is why it all matters, and some
:01:43. > :01:45.about three seconds at lap, that is have been on severe diets. Sutil
:01:46. > :01:49.said he went a few days without eating at all to see how was Bobby
:01:50. > :01:56.Reid acted, and he discovered it did not react very well. -- to see how
:01:57. > :02:02.his body reacted. He has now stopped doing such extreme measures, but we
:02:03. > :02:05.have heard talk of drivers getting into physical difficulties, not
:02:06. > :02:09.running water Bottas in an extreme desire to be as light as possible.
:02:10. > :02:26.-- water bottles. At the start of the season, Massa,
:02:27. > :02:31.even though he was smaller, was saying, they know what they have got
:02:32. > :02:37.to achieve, and he was saying, tough. But then he would! Because he
:02:38. > :02:44.is lighter! Magnuson across the line, still in the top ten, eighth
:02:45. > :02:49.fastest, Button currently quickest. We saw Raikkonen a moment ago,
:02:50. > :02:56.Maldonado still up in seventh place with the Lotus, looking into the
:02:57. > :03:01.Williams pit at Felipe Nasr, who will also be in the GP2 race this
:03:02. > :03:06.weekend, he has got a busy time of it. He comes from Brasilia, part of
:03:07. > :03:07.the huge number of Brazilians that have tried to make their name in
:03:08. > :03:13.formal one. He was have tried to make their name in
:03:14. > :03:18.Champions in 2009, a former British F3 champion with Carlin motorsport.
:03:19. > :03:24.A very impressive junior career, like so many of these guys, winning
:03:25. > :03:28.on the levels coming up, but getting into Formula One and delivering in
:03:29. > :03:32.Formula One is quite another matter. Jules Bianchi on track in the
:03:33. > :03:39.Marussia, and that battle with Caterham currently is being led by
:03:40. > :03:53.Bianchi, who has done a lap time faster than Van der Garde and
:03:54. > :03:58.Kobayashi. His engineer has gone to be the overall leader of engineering
:03:59. > :03:58.at the track, and he has a new engineer for
:03:59. > :04:07.at the track, and he has a new pretty well. Yes, he was my data
:04:08. > :04:11.engineer at Toyota. Francesco came from Sauber. He knew it would be
:04:12. > :04:14.happening prior to the season starting, but this is his first
:04:15. > :04:18.Grand Prix in that particular position. Now there is a certain
:04:19. > :04:24.amount of a get to know you period, but both being Latin, they work on a
:04:25. > :04:27.similar mindset, if you like, but Francesco has a terrific amount of
:04:28. > :04:31.experience of what Formula One is about today, and I think that will
:04:32. > :04:36.help Marussia in their move forward. Bianchi has had a bit of a
:04:37. > :04:41.difficult season so far this year, in terms of delivering results. It
:04:42. > :04:46.is Chilton who has had two 13th place finishes to get Marussia into
:04:47. > :04:50.tenth position. I think Bianchi will be looking to deliver slightly
:04:51. > :04:55.better results. I think it is amazing, when you consider that Max
:04:56. > :05:00.Chilton has finished 23 consecutive Grands Prix, the previous record was
:05:01. > :05:04.16. I think that is incredible for a rookie, to be honest. Kimi Raikkonen
:05:05. > :05:06.sliding around quite a lot, but a lot of work still going on at
:05:07. > :05:11.Mercedes. Pretty frantic, lot of work still going on at
:05:12. > :05:16.underneath it in the battery pack area. They have a technical issue,
:05:17. > :05:21.Nico Rosberg standing to the side, looking at us now! He was looking at
:05:22. > :05:25.the date, sort of tapping his foot, just hoping they can get it
:05:26. > :05:29.rectified so he can get out before the end of the session. On the other
:05:30. > :05:34.side of the garage, Lewis Hamilton is not in the car either, both
:05:35. > :05:36.Mercedes looking reasonably comfortable. Either that, or they
:05:37. > :05:41.are definitely one step behind. think they are reasonably
:05:42. > :05:45.comfortable, even though they have a technical issue. You can see the
:05:46. > :05:48.frustration in his face as he marches out of the Garrard, has the
:05:49. > :05:55.look down the pit lane and back in again. Meanwhile, Lotus doing
:05:56. > :06:00.better. His team-mate, Grosjean, 16th fastest, but they have been
:06:01. > :06:04.putting laps together, which was not having earlier this season, and they
:06:05. > :06:08.always said this track would give them an opportunity to deliver and
:06:09. > :06:13.show what they can do. Last year they were very competitive. Let's
:06:14. > :06:16.not forget that Kimi Raikkonen finished second here for Lotus,
:06:17. > :06:18.following up on a podium from the previous season. My goodness, that
:06:19. > :06:22.almost caught, the back previous season. My goodness, that
:06:23. > :06:26.Sauber snapping one way and very nearly flitting, he just about
:06:27. > :06:30.sorted it out, even though he has to use a bit of the gravel on the
:06:31. > :06:35.outside. A frightening looking moment for Adrian Sutil, he could
:06:36. > :06:39.have gone off heavily to the left. Now he is doing a fairly gentle lap.
:06:40. > :06:44.have gone off heavily to the left. Recovery, by the looks of it. Adrian
:06:45. > :06:48.Sutil not having the best start. Sauber have had a tough time,
:06:49. > :06:52.talking about the wait, that is one thing, but reliability has not been
:06:53. > :06:58.great for them, he has had three non-finishes in a row. Not what you
:06:59. > :07:04.expect from them, not the normal Swiss, clockwork reliability. No, it
:07:05. > :07:10.isn't, they were famed for starting seasons really well and only losing
:07:11. > :07:13.a bit of ground when the development race... My goodness,
:07:14. > :07:18.a bit of ground when the development in the other car,
:07:19. > :07:21.a bit of ground when the development turn one. I had a brake failure, I
:07:22. > :07:29.nearly missed! The brakes are not working any more! Red failure, about
:07:30. > :07:39.as scary as a Formula One driver gets. Any driver, that is the
:07:40. > :07:44.scariest thing, into turn one, you have to have total confidence, but
:07:45. > :07:49.you could hear him having a moment, Giedo van der Garde. Yeah,
:07:50. > :07:54.definitely. Tony, not a typical start to the year. They used to
:07:55. > :07:57.start well and lose pace when the development race kicked in because
:07:58. > :08:05.of their smaller budget, but this year they have had a problem from
:08:06. > :08:10.the same budgetary issues apply. Let's hope they can get that
:08:11. > :08:17.started... Sorted out with the new car. Niki Lauda chatting with Nico
:08:18. > :08:20.Rosberg, he has been talking in the press about how he wants to see the
:08:21. > :08:23.battle between the team-mates continue, and for the moment
:08:24. > :08:28.Mercedes should allow them to race one another. The danger is that, as
:08:29. > :08:32.soon as the other teams get a little closer and do start to put pressure
:08:33. > :08:37.on Mercedes, then Mercedes may have to say to the two drivers, you can't
:08:38. > :08:40.race against each other, we have to look after the first priority, to
:08:41. > :08:46.win the title. Absolutely, Toto Wolff admitted that
:08:47. > :08:50.at the last race, saying we might have to reassess the situation
:08:51. > :08:51.later. There have been instances throughout racing history where
:08:52. > :08:59.dominant teams have won most of throughout racing history where
:09:00. > :09:03.battles and lost the war. They will be desperate to avoid that
:09:04. > :09:06.situation. But at the moment, they have not really got a close
:09:07. > :09:10.competitor in sight, so I think they are safe at the moment. We will keep
:09:11. > :09:15.an eye on that, look at the lap times over the weekend. Let's have a
:09:16. > :09:23.look at alarms, fourth fastest at the moment, the tyres have done a
:09:24. > :09:26.few laps. -- Alonso. The initial shine from a brand-new set of tyres
:09:27. > :09:31.has been done, it can be difficult to match that through the session.
:09:32. > :09:35.25 minutes to go, Giedo van der Garde is in the pit lane having his
:09:36. > :09:38.brakes attended to. As we heard, a pretty frightening incident for him,
:09:39. > :09:42.hopefully they can get that sorted and send him on his way. One of the
:09:43. > :09:47.photographers had quite a scary moment as well, I imagine he is
:09:48. > :09:53.having a recovery moment as well! Not much fun down there when you
:09:54. > :09:58.think they are heading into turn one at over 200 mph. Top of the speed
:09:59. > :10:03.trap at the moment is Felipe Massa with Mercedes power, but Van der
:10:04. > :10:09.Garde, from earlier, I know it was not that particular lap, but he had
:10:10. > :10:16.done 331 kph, so over the 200 mph mark. Van der Garde, of course, with
:10:17. > :10:19.Renault power, that is going to be a little bit encouraging.
:10:20. > :10:25.Renault power, that is going to be a is cooling issues on Rosberg's car,
:10:26. > :10:29.the ERS system cooling is a problem. That is why there is so much work on
:10:30. > :10:32.his car, and hopefully they will be able to get it back out. We are
:10:33. > :10:36.still waiting to see if Vettel will get back out. Look at the amount of
:10:37. > :10:41.sliding from the Ferrari! This is what we love to see from this breed
:10:42. > :10:46.of car, these hybrid cars delivering a huge amount of power and sliding
:10:47. > :10:51.around. We have seen that from the start of the year, it was apparent
:10:52. > :10:56.as soon as we saw them, we thought it was great. Allan, we have been
:10:57. > :11:00.talking about Sauber, what are you seen down there? I am just in front
:11:01. > :11:04.of Giedo van der Garde, he is shaking his hand at me, suggesting
:11:05. > :11:09.it was a very tricky moment going into turn one. It was not a complete
:11:10. > :11:13.brake failure, but when he hits the paddle, it did not slow down as much
:11:14. > :11:17.as he wanted. They have taken the shrouds of the calibre and disc,
:11:18. > :11:23.starting to investigate. They are not sure where it is as we speak. We
:11:24. > :11:30.are seeing a back-to-back front wing test here for the Ferraris. They
:11:31. > :11:35.have brought Fernando Alonso in, they take one nose cone off, put
:11:36. > :11:38.another one on, get immediate they take one nose cone off, put
:11:39. > :11:43.from the revised setup, and this gives them that kind of knowledge
:11:44. > :11:47.they need to know which is the best one, will it correlates to what they
:11:48. > :11:52.have seen in the wind tunnel? On track at the moment, Pastor
:11:53. > :12:00.Maldonado with the Lotus, Diarra is in operation down into turn one.
:12:01. > :12:06.Maldonado is currently in the top ten. -- DRS. Perez and Hulkenberg
:12:07. > :12:13.quite evenly matched, this is another track where he will be one
:12:14. > :12:16.to watch, he always goes well here. There are tracks when Sergio Perez
:12:17. > :12:19.can be quite difficult to beat, and if he is on the case, I think
:12:20. > :12:24.Hulkenberg could have his hands full this weekend. That drive the team
:12:25. > :12:29.forward, and that is what they need, no doubt about it. Getting into the
:12:30. > :12:31.top ten will be harder and harder, because we have got Lotus now
:12:32. > :12:35.becoming where they should be, getting into the top ten, and that
:12:36. > :12:43.will make it harder for all those teams like McLaren, Force India,
:12:44. > :12:48.Toro Rosso, to still be in there. Perez had a great drive in Bahrain,
:12:49. > :12:51.but he has a particular affinity for that place, remember the battle with
:12:52. > :12:58.Jenson Button last year. It is going to be tough, because not only has he
:12:59. > :13:03.got to beat the Lotuses, but his own team-mate is, you know, a pretty
:13:04. > :13:08.formidable yardstick. Yeah, definitely, we will see what Force
:13:09. > :13:11.India can do, Perez and Hulkenberg looking forward to continuing the
:13:12. > :13:18.good series of scores they have been having. Maldonado, much slower than
:13:19. > :13:21.earlier, may be running more fuel in the car, experimenting with
:13:22. > :13:25.different setups. We are on board with Ricciardo in the Red Bull,
:13:26. > :13:30.currently second-fastest to Jenson Button. The Mercedes cars have not
:13:31. > :13:34.been out for quite a long time, they only did laps earlier, when they
:13:35. > :13:37.were three quarters of a second faster than anyone else, but in the
:13:38. > :13:40.meantime Button and Ricciardo have gone quicker, and we are still
:13:41. > :13:44.waiting to see Mercedes back on track. It could be a while for
:13:45. > :13:52.Rosberg because of the cooling problems he is suffering. Coming up
:13:53. > :13:57.through the tighter section now, turn 12, a lot of load on the left
:13:58. > :14:03.front tyre, down into 13, a quick left-hander before anchoring up for
:14:04. > :14:08.14 and 15. Vital to get good traction, using a bit of the curve.
:14:09. > :14:12.And then it is a question of trying to keep the throttle planted
:14:13. > :14:15.And then it is a question of trying the final corner, not as fast as he
:14:16. > :14:24.achieved earlier, but that is to be expected. The car tapping the floor
:14:25. > :14:27.as it hits the straight. Luca di Montezemolo here for Ferrari again
:14:28. > :14:33.this weekend, he has introduced a new boss for the team since the last
:14:34. > :14:36.time we saw him in Bahrain, when he made some fairly derogatory comments
:14:37. > :14:41.about the new Formula One, and then of course we saw one of the best
:14:42. > :14:46.races we have seen in years, somewhat amusing! And now he is back
:14:47. > :14:51.again to see how his new charge is getting on at Ferrari, I guess. Yes,
:14:52. > :14:56.it will be interesting to see if he comes out with any comments here.
:14:57. > :15:00.After a podium last time out, a great performance for them, no
:15:01. > :15:05.change in the outright standings. Alonso has now put this different
:15:06. > :15:09.front nose cone on, and we will see... Well, he will see whether it
:15:10. > :15:13.is better, difficult for us to see from the outside, he will be
:15:14. > :15:17.reporting back in terms of real, but the data loggers will be delivering
:15:18. > :15:22.numbers, which is more important. Allan, now it is so data driven,
:15:23. > :15:25.isn't it? In the old days, it was much more about the driver and what
:15:26. > :15:32.he reported to the engineers, but now they look at the numbers. The
:15:33. > :15:38.first time I drove a Formula One car, there was no data at all. How
:15:39. > :15:50.driven by data and the drivers have driven by data and the drivers have
:15:51. > :15:58.suggest something, the driver is the one with the steering wheel
:15:59. > :16:01.suggest something, the driver is the flashing around like mad right now.
:16:02. > :16:04.Alonso is flying around in terms of how he is attacking the corners. He
:16:05. > :16:09.probably doesn't have the tyre grip, but Tony great to watch because he
:16:10. > :16:12.is on the limit everywhere. He is spectacular. Fernando's car always
:16:13. > :16:16.is on the limit everywhere. He is had an aggressive Body Language. If
:16:17. > :16:21.you thought he has been hugely busy more so than ever? I think, he gets,
:16:22. > :16:27.he is prepared to live with the back gets on the power and he can live
:16:28. > :16:33.with that. Interestingly Sebastian Vettel who has been struggling with
:16:34. > :16:39.this year's car and it maybe the looseness, Chrissian Horner referred
:16:40. > :16:42.to it saying that Christian is feeling uncomfortable with the
:16:43. > :16:47.amount the rear of the car is moving around because he is used to a
:16:48. > :16:48.different feel. Alonso getting on the power and winding the opposite
:16:49. > :16:53.lock on. Great to watch and the power and winding the opposite
:16:54. > :16:58.enjoyable. Allan what do you make of it? Alonso has just come into the
:16:59. > :17:03.pits. Looking at his left front tyre, the front tyre has grained
:17:04. > :17:07.hard, but the rear tyre is looking good. Last year it was the rear
:17:08. > :17:11.tyres that Ferrari really struggled with, so they will be happy the
:17:12. > :17:15.options they've got. But Kimi Raikkonen is trying a new rear wing
:17:16. > :17:18.section. They had the rear wing off that car and that's bolted back on
:17:19. > :17:24.so maybe he will have another run before the end of the session.
:17:25. > :17:29.Daniil Kvyat Daniel Ricciardo having to hang on to a bit of bodywork on
:17:30. > :17:34.the Red Bull. Going back to what you were saying about Sebastian Vettel
:17:35. > :17:38.Ben, he is comfortable with the car that oversteers. He admits that, he
:17:39. > :17:42.drives aggressively, but this year he is losing more time. It is not as
:17:43. > :17:50.efficient. I mean, having said that, the car is still very, very good
:17:51. > :17:57.aflt. I think -- good. If I think if you like at the splits, it is in the
:17:58. > :18:02.twisty sections. If they make the progress with the power unit, that
:18:03. > :18:05.will be a challenging car. I agree. We will see more from Red Bull as we
:18:06. > :18:13.go through the course of the season. There is 17 minutes to go in this
:18:14. > :18:16.session. Thanks for your comments. Don't forget to keep an eye on the
:18:17. > :18:20.live text on the Formula One website, the BBC Formula One website
:18:21. > :18:28.as well. Nigel Jackson saying mer sees yesterday will -- Mercedes will
:18:29. > :18:32.bring upgrades, but will they keep them back? Perhaps they could do
:18:33. > :18:38.that, but this is Formula One. Everyone pushes you so hard, you
:18:39. > :18:46.can't really afford to sit back and if you get complacent, that's when
:18:47. > :18:50.you will get caught. A wry smile on Sebastian's face as he is caught
:18:51. > :18:59.having some fruit. Maybe a chance for him to go back out in the car.
:19:00. > :19:11.There is Luca Cordero di Montezemolo With Marco Matti. Christian now you
:19:12. > :19:17.have had a chance to get Se bastian's car back. Can you explain
:19:18. > :19:31.what the problem is? It is an electrical issue. He He won't be
:19:32. > :19:36.running this session. Is that related to the chassis change? No,
:19:37. > :19:46.all the parts are interchangeable and get stripped after each race.
:19:47. > :19:51.Not unique to the whatsy for sure. We have not really seen what
:19:52. > :19:55.Mercedes can deliver. It looks like they are being conservative on
:19:56. > :19:59.mileage at the moment. You would have to assume, you know, as the
:20:00. > :20:03.circuit improved that the Mercedes would go, you know, a bit quicker.
:20:04. > :20:08.Just feeling our way into the circuit and working on the set-up.
:20:09. > :20:10.Just talk to us about Daniel Ricciardo. You are being asked about
:20:11. > :20:16.him so much at the moment because he has put in such a great start to his
:20:17. > :20:21.career with your team, but just tell us how he is fitting and what you
:20:22. > :20:25.are seeing from this guy? Well, Daniel has been known to the team
:20:26. > :20:30.for a few years. He was our test driver and reserve driver and
:20:31. > :20:35.simulator driver and came through the junior ranks as a Red Bull
:20:36. > :20:38.junior. He well-known to the team, what really impressed suss how he
:20:39. > :20:44.dealt with the pressure of stepping up into the top team and obviously
:20:45. > :20:48.alongside Sebastian. He has a great attitude. He is working extremely
:20:49. > :20:53.well with all the guys. He is certainly, very, very quick. Well,
:20:54. > :20:58.it seems to be a marriage made in heaven from the way he is delivering
:20:59. > :21:02.with this car and going into this weekend, do you really believe that
:21:03. > :21:06.you have got a car, a package, that you can challenge the Mercedes? I
:21:07. > :21:10.know it is early to say anything at the moment, we have not seen much
:21:11. > :21:13.from them, but where do you see yourselves, do you see yourselves
:21:14. > :21:18.fighting for third or do you think you can really take it to them this
:21:19. > :21:22.weekend? You have got to say we would be fighting for third, but
:21:23. > :21:27.hopefully we have reduced that gap and you know, once we can start to
:21:28. > :21:32.reduce that gap and put them under pressure then, you know, anything
:21:33. > :21:38.can happen. But hopefully we will be looking to see if we reduce the gap
:21:39. > :21:42.from the second plus that was in China. We have been talking during
:21:43. > :21:46.our broadcast about some of the ideas coming from the strategy group
:21:47. > :21:51.about ways of making Formula One even more exciting. I mean, the
:21:52. > :21:55.first question is do we need to after races like Bahrain for
:21:56. > :22:02.example? But what are your thoughts, Christian? Are there any ideas that
:22:03. > :22:04.should introduced? It needs to be a pure flat out race from start to
:22:05. > :22:08.finish, pure flat out race from start to
:22:09. > :22:11.and it should be a sprint race. There is some good discussions going
:22:12. > :22:14.on and I think Formula One is conscious that we have a
:22:15. > :22:19.responsibility and duty to the fans. It needs to be, you know, an
:22:20. > :22:24.exciting show and the cars need to be exciting to watch. It needs to be
:22:25. > :22:28.a challenge for the drivers and it needs to be man and machinery at the
:22:29. > :22:31.limit. Thank you very much for your input and we will catch up with you
:22:32. > :22:36.later in the day. Thanks. Jenson Button fastest in this
:22:37. > :22:39.session. We have got just over 12, just under 12-and-a-half minutes to
:22:40. > :22:44.go now and we are riding on board with Jenson Button here as he heads
:22:45. > :22:49.down into turn one. Let's just watch him through the corner. A ritical
:22:50. > :22:59.corner -- a critical corner this is turn three. Watch this. Just goes on
:23:00. > :23:04.and on. A lot of strain and then you have got to lean on it again turning
:23:05. > :23:10.into turn four. And that's the area of track which really does load up
:23:11. > :23:14.the tyres. Allan, I don't know if you have got a chance to watch that.
:23:15. > :23:17.You can see it, just how much work the left-hand side of the car is
:23:18. > :23:24.having to do on that section? There is a lot of long corners on the
:23:25. > :23:29.circuit. The left-hand side tyres get a heck of a pounding. You really
:23:30. > :23:33.see the tyre deforming and moving around. It is something that from
:23:34. > :23:38.the energy point of view is huge for the fIr manufacturers around -- tyre
:23:39. > :23:43.manufacturers and Pirelli with the compounds they brought that they are
:23:44. > :23:47.on the conservative side because the circuit is dirty. It is dusty. There
:23:48. > :23:51.is pollen blowing around in the pit lane right now, but that will
:23:52. > :23:53.improve as the weekend progresses. Button now into the latter part of
:23:54. > :24:01.the lap once again. We have got the Button now into the latter part of
:24:02. > :24:06.throttle. That gives us a clue of how he is having to feed the power
:24:07. > :24:08.in. Not quite flat through the final corner. He has to feed it in on that
:24:09. > :24:16.section and on to the DRA sz he corner. He has to feed it in on that
:24:17. > :24:20.comes down the main -- DRS he come down the main. Hamilton has gone out
:24:21. > :24:26.and he is doing a quick lap right now. Fastest first sector of anybody
:24:27. > :24:30.for Lewis Hamilton. So he is doing a good job so far. Let's go down to
:24:31. > :24:33.the pits though because while Lewis Hamilton is going quickly we have
:24:34. > :24:39.one of the bosses of Mercedes talking to Allan. You must be happy
:24:40. > :24:45.because Lewis Hamilton has done the fastest fast sector, but Nico
:24:46. > :24:52.Rosberg doesn't look like he is going back out again. The track
:24:53. > :24:56.resolution is getting better. With Nico's car, we have a problem, but
:24:57. > :24:59.it should be OK for the second free practise. Can you tell us what the
:25:00. > :25:02.it should be OK for the second free problem is? Yeah, it is in
:25:03. > :25:03.it should be OK for the second free to the, it is a mechanical problem
:25:04. > :25:09.in the power unit. OK. That's a to the, it is a mechanical problem
:25:10. > :25:11.description there! I will leave it to you. With regard to performance,
:25:12. > :25:14.are you feeling that Ferrari, to you. With regard to performance,
:25:15. > :25:19.you feeling that Red Bull will be the main competition this weekend? I
:25:20. > :25:23.think you cannot underestimate both of them for various reasons. With
:25:24. > :25:27.Ferrari, the power unit group is integrated and the chassis group and
:25:28. > :25:31.it is clear they are going to make big steps and Red Bull is never
:25:32. > :25:34.going to stop pushing. Both of them will be the main contenders. I will
:25:35. > :25:38.let you get back to the lap will be the main contenders. I will
:25:39. > :25:43.whether Lewis Hamilton can pop to the top of the leaderboard. I hope
:25:44. > :25:47.so. Lewis Hamilton backed off in the middle and latter part of the lap.
:25:48. > :25:53.We are riding on board with him now and he has done a quick first sector
:25:54. > :25:58.again. Gets out of shape as he comes out of turn four and down to turn
:25:59. > :26:03.five. No lock up. Tidy into the apex. That is good and strong on the
:26:04. > :26:08.exit. A touch of kerb used. TEAM RADIO: GPS a poor. You will
:26:09. > :26:12.have to make your own space. Make your own space. Understood.
:26:13. > :26:15.Ricciardo is going to have to find a gap in the traffic because they
:26:16. > :26:20.can't help him from the pit wall. We're watching Lewis Hamilton on to
:26:21. > :26:24.the second DRS zone. Down into turn ten. A car up ahead of him.
:26:25. > :26:30.Hopefully that won't cost him too much. Now up into this final sector.
:26:31. > :26:34.The car moving around a bit, but more on the front end. He backed off
:26:35. > :26:38.again. He did a very fast middle sector. Faster than anybody else,
:26:39. > :26:43.that would have been the fastest time by some margin, but he backed
:26:44. > :26:46.it off and he is not completing the lap. Is he coming into the
:26:47. > :26:48.it off and he is not completing the going to go again and
:26:49. > :26:54.it off and he is not completing the run? Rosberg is looking closely at
:26:55. > :27:02.that. Eles He will have seen the sector times and knows Hamilton
:27:03. > :27:10.backed off. We are with Felipe in the Williams. He is doing a descent
:27:11. > :27:27.job for the team. Susie Wolff will be testing for Williams at the test
:27:28. > :27:38.that takes place in Barcelona. Susie Wolff will be taking part in the
:27:39. > :27:47.German and French Grand Prix. Let's cafe on watching Nasr. We are up to
:27:48. > :27:51.23 degrees now. The track temperature was below the air
:27:52. > :27:55.temperature. It was running at 17 degrees. But it has gone up four or
:27:56. > :28:01.five degrees quickly as we are getting towards noon local time. It
:28:02. > :28:05.is 11. 20 at the moment. The temperatures are building and that
:28:06. > :28:14.won't be helping the drivers set faster lap times. There is Felipe
:28:15. > :28:17.Massa in the other Williams. Not quite achieving a podium
:28:18. > :28:20.Massa in the other Williams. Not which they would love to do. Now we
:28:21. > :28:24.are into the development race and Williams is a team that doesn't have
:28:25. > :28:30.the heavy hitting budget that some of the other teams have Tony, but
:28:31. > :28:33.there is a lot of frt and a lot of -- effort and engineering thought
:28:34. > :28:38.going into how they can spend the money and stay up there in the race?
:28:39. > :28:46.There has been a lot of personnel changes. Pat Symonds coming in as a
:28:47. > :28:49.technical director, they have Rob Smedley and I think they will make
:28:50. > :28:55.some good forward progress, I really do. Rob Smedley seems to be, I said
:28:56. > :29:01.this to Clare Williams yesterday, that he is a perfect fit and she
:29:02. > :29:06.agreed. The way he goes about his job. The way he interacts with the
:29:07. > :29:12.drivers and the team personnel. He has fitted into Williams perfectly.
:29:13. > :29:21.Rob is a racer, isn't he? Right from the days when he was at Jordan and
:29:22. > :29:27.through the relationship he established with Felipe Massa at
:29:28. > :29:32.Ferrari. They call a spade a spade and get on with it. There is no huge
:29:33. > :29:38.egos. I really think they have got a good blend there now.
:29:39. > :29:41.OK, Clare Williams saying he is an impressive addition to the team.
:29:42. > :29:44.They have made a few technical recruitments over the last year. She
:29:45. > :29:47.feels happy now with the group of people that they have got and now it
:29:48. > :29:51.is a question of kind of building with that group. Also, you have got
:29:52. > :29:54.to look at the drivers in the whole equation and the two
:29:55. > :29:58.to look at the drivers in the whole Massa is uncomplicated, Valtteri
:29:59. > :30:02.Bottas is uncomplicated. He just wants to get on with it. It is a
:30:03. > :30:08.great mix. He had a little spat about the team orders early on. That
:30:09. > :30:10.was put to bed. Now, I really think we'll start to see the fruits of
:30:11. > :30:16.that. There you are, Lewis Hamilton has
:30:17. > :30:21.just gone fastest. That puts him seven tenths faster than anybody
:30:22. > :30:25.else. His tyres are fresher than a lot of drivers who has been setting
:30:26. > :30:31.laps recently. He has done 14 laps and that was too wide over the kerb,
:30:32. > :30:37.over the white line, but he had to two qheles -- wheels on the kerb.
:30:38. > :30:41.Let's see what happened to Jean-Eric Vergne. A slight lock up on the left
:30:42. > :30:47.foot. That's interesting, normally it is the right front. The unloaded
:30:48. > :30:56.tyre that tends to lock. Dealt with that without any issues. Button is
:30:57. > :31:01.second and that's encouraging for for McLaren. Daniel Ricciardo is
:31:02. > :31:03.third for Red Bull. The only Red Bull that's been able to do a
:31:04. > :31:07.representative because Sebastian Vettel had problems. Sebastian
:31:08. > :31:11.Vettel did only four laps and then had to pull off to the side of the
:31:12. > :31:14.road and we've heard from Christian Horner that they have had an
:31:15. > :31:24.electrical problem and the car will be sorted for this afternoon. Please
:31:25. > :31:30.try not to speak to me when I am in the braking zones. Copy that, Lewis,
:31:31. > :31:36.maybe it is a delay on GPS. Lewis making the point that when he gets
:31:37. > :31:42.spoken to over the team radio, when he is really putting a hard slap, he
:31:43. > :31:50.does not want to be disturbed. -- he is really putting a hard slap, he
:31:51. > :31:54.halt lap. Maybe they had not got the positioning of his car quite right
:31:55. > :31:59.from the GPS map on their screens on the pit wall. They are trying to
:32:00. > :32:09.only speak to the driver when he is in a particular zone, but if the GPS
:32:10. > :32:12.is playing up, that is difficult. Nico Rosberg believed it when he
:32:13. > :32:19.thought he was down in qualifying. You can't always believe these
:32:20. > :32:23.things. Romain Grosjean in the Lotus, let's see whether he can
:32:24. > :32:28.improve on this lap. No significant improvement so far. Thank you for
:32:29. > :32:32.your comments and questions coming in through the course of this
:32:33. > :32:36.session. Another question from Alex, have I ever driven a Formula One
:32:37. > :32:43.car? I can tell you I haven't, but one man who has is the man who I am
:32:44. > :32:47.spoken to, Tony, how did that happen? It was actually for a
:32:48. > :32:51.magazine launched about 18 years ago. It is not accurate to say I
:32:52. > :32:55.drove the car, it is more accurate to say the car drove me! It was
:32:56. > :33:02.about an hour before the test session, 830 in the morning, come
:33:03. > :33:13.what may, it was pretty daunting, I spun four times. What car was it? It
:33:14. > :33:19.was a Terrell, Allan's team-mate. -- Tyrell. A couple more of your
:33:20. > :33:25.comments... Rear tyres are really taking a beating. Interesting, it
:33:26. > :33:28.was tyre wear, or tyre degradation that really hurt Hamilton here last
:33:29. > :33:33.year when he had a miserable time. He was quoted as saying it was one
:33:34. > :33:39.of the worst races of his career in the way that the race went, because
:33:40. > :33:44.he dropped like a stone, both Mercedes had a tough time. Rosberg
:33:45. > :33:48.started from pole and ended up sixth by managing his tyres. This will be
:33:49. > :33:53.a concern, reporting the rear tyres going away. Yeah, we will keep a
:33:54. > :34:00.close eye on the lap times this afternoon. This is one of the more
:34:01. > :34:03.abrasive circuits. Yeah, so the race runs later today in second
:34:04. > :34:08.practice, we will get an opportunity to see what they do on the medium
:34:09. > :34:14.compound, the softer of the two this weekend. That has not been used at
:34:15. > :34:17.all in this first part of practice. Hamilton on top, Button
:34:18. > :34:25.second-fastest, unlikely to see any changes now. Ricciardo for Red Bull,
:34:26. > :34:30.Alonso for Ferrari. Rosberg not able to respond, only nine laps Jude to a
:34:31. > :34:34.cooling issue. Not the perfect start to the weekend, Rosberg saying
:34:35. > :34:39.yesterday that he needs a smooth weekend. You don't always get them,
:34:40. > :34:43.losing laps in a session like this does hurt you further down the line,
:34:44. > :34:49.you lose that extra information, that extra bit of data, and for the
:34:50. > :34:55.driver to really get his eye in. An extra few laps
:34:56. > :34:57.driver to really get his eye in. An a second is likely to be the
:34:58. > :35:02.difference between Hamilton and Rosberg, and those extra laps can
:35:03. > :35:05.help you find that time. I think Hamilton will get across the line
:35:06. > :35:12.and set a slightly better lap time than his previous best, 1:27.0 for
:35:13. > :35:16.Lewis Hamilton, and it has been a pretty good start to the weekend for
:35:17. > :35:20.the driver who was won the last three Grands Prix in a row. If we
:35:21. > :35:29.compare that with practice one from last year, we are a couple of
:35:30. > :35:35.seconds down. 1:25.2 was the lap time from Fernando Alonso in first
:35:36. > :35:40.practice, 1:27.0 for Lewis Hamilton, about 1.8 seconds slower than last
:35:41. > :35:43.year. That is to be expected, in fact we were seeing lap times slower
:35:44. > :35:49.than that under the new regulations, much less downforce on
:35:50. > :35:53.the cars this year than last year, and the downforce here in Barcelona
:35:54. > :35:56.is crucial to a fast time. That reduction in downforce that has been
:35:57. > :36:01.brought about by the rules will account for a lot of that gap in
:36:02. > :36:04.time, and the new power units delivering a similar sort of
:36:05. > :36:08.horsepower, in fact more in a straight line, so that sort of makes
:36:09. > :36:12.up for some of the loss of downforce. So Hamilton, I think,
:36:13. > :36:18.would be fairly satisfied with downforce. So Hamilton, I think,
:36:19. > :36:20.team-mate. A better start for the British driver than his German
:36:21. > :36:25.colleague. Rosberg finding himself down in fifth place in the times
:36:26. > :36:27.from a time he did much, much earlier in the session. Let's run
:36:28. > :36:48.you through the times. A little moment ago, that was
:36:49. > :36:52.Sutil running wide, he was 15th fastest from Bianchi, Grosjean, Van
:36:53. > :36:59.der Garde, Chilton, Vettel, Kobayashi and Ericsson. The two
:37:00. > :37:02.Caterhams complete the line-up. Thanks very much, Benjamin and
:37:03. > :37:13.Tony. A disappointing session for some, and maybe that speaks louder.
:37:14. > :37:18.Sebastian Vettel only managed four laps. For the
:37:19. > :37:22.Sebastian Vettel only managed four tested, that will be a problem. Also
:37:23. > :37:25.for Nico Rosberg, Lewis Hamilton was fastest, his team-mate, putting in
:37:26. > :37:30.the complete programme. That would be more critical for the race
:37:31. > :37:34.result, because this is where Mercedes had real trouble. - fast in
:37:35. > :37:38.qualifying, but in the race they dropped back. Lewis has got that
:37:39. > :37:45.experience of what the tie is like, admitted Lee on a pretty green
:37:46. > :37:49.circuit. Giedo van der Garde's art will be beating a little bit fast.
:37:50. > :37:56.It's the brake with maximum pressure, the car does not slow
:37:57. > :38:00.down, and that was a great issue, on board with him, you can see he is
:38:01. > :38:06.having to turn into the corner, the barrier coming up extremely quick.
:38:07. > :38:16.Not a total brake failure, but a big technical issue, and he said, yo,
:38:17. > :38:21.yo, yo! It was touch and go, leave. Ferrari have not won a race since
:38:22. > :38:25.this race last year, Luca di Montezemolo is in
:38:26. > :38:28.this race last year, Luca di putting the pressure on. Maybe that
:38:29. > :38:33.is a good sign, to put the pressure on. He came out a minute ago with
:38:34. > :38:37.Fernando Alonso, put his arm around him, in deep conversation. Ferrari
:38:38. > :38:41.need some pressure, they need to perform, because right now they are
:38:42. > :38:45.not the second team, they are third or fourth, and this weekend is where
:38:46. > :38:52.the European season starts, but to some extent this is for the future,
:38:53. > :38:56.for 2015. Thanks, Allan. Fernando Alonso is the local hero, today he
:38:57. > :39:01.is having big discussions, can he turn things around before FP2? Join
:39:02. > :39:03.us on BBC Two at one o'clock, bye-bye.
