:00:10. > :00:16.Previously on Formula One: Look at him go! What was that?! The

:00:17. > :00:18.difference in speed! Who said this was taxi driving! This is Formula

:00:19. > :01:29.One. Race five: Spain. The wheels turn, and we are in

:01:30. > :01:35.Europe, in a corner where anarchy ruled - I kid you not! Barcelona was

:01:36. > :01:37.once a hotbed of anarchy, a serious political force, braking down the

:01:38. > :01:52.established order. The old and narco syndicalists, --

:01:53. > :01:59.authority? We spit on authority! Smashing up the old order. It is a

:02:00. > :02:07.1-2 for Mercedes. Whereas now, he who was king and he was not obeying

:02:08. > :02:13.orders now... Tough luck! Right on, Seb! Down with authority. And those

:02:14. > :02:19.who have taken over, what has happened to, oh, let's race and have

:02:20. > :02:29.some fun? Amazing racing between the team-mates! Power corrupts. And

:02:30. > :02:35.those who snarl at the heels of the new masters, Mercedes, what is their

:02:36. > :02:41.line? Yeah, big boys, we will bring your house down. Look at the

:02:42. > :02:49.difference in speed! Direct action, anarchy, don't you just love it?! My

:02:50. > :02:56.little homage to Catalonia. Welcome to Formula One.

:02:57. > :03:02.Welcome indeed to all new Formula One, new hybrid powertrains and a

:03:03. > :03:06.new balance of power. Of course, Eddie Jordan is back with us,

:03:07. > :03:11.thumbing his nose at authority, as ever. What are you making of the new

:03:12. > :03:15.face of the sport? I actually quite like it! For once, I can almost hear

:03:16. > :03:19.people speaking. There has been criticism about the noise, but I

:03:20. > :03:24.quite like it, we get used to it, as long as the racing is up to the

:03:25. > :03:28.level we saw in Bahrain. David, this is the race where everyone says you

:03:29. > :03:32.get to see the performance of the cars and the direction they are

:03:33. > :03:36.going in for the rest of the season, how much do you buy into that?

:03:37. > :03:39.Historically this has been the proving ground where they did the

:03:40. > :03:45.testing, but that has changed now, because they did it in Jerez and in

:03:46. > :03:51.Bahrain before the season started. A lot of high-speed corners here, an

:03:52. > :03:55.indication of straight-line speed and aerodynamic downforce. Great

:03:56. > :03:57.conditions for racing today, and aerodynamic downforce. Great

:03:58. > :04:02.Fernando Alonso won last year, and already the fans were treated to

:04:03. > :04:07.this little display by the Spaniard, really lovely to see. Years probably

:04:08. > :04:12.following what happened last year, he did the same thing, and he won

:04:13. > :04:16.the race. Why change the habits of a lifetime if they bring you that kind

:04:17. > :04:21.of success? The fans getting a lot from that, but the driver as well,

:04:22. > :04:24.it builds you up? It can't do is ego any harm at all to hear everyone

:04:25. > :04:29.screaming his name, he has not been hearing it from anyone screaming his

:04:30. > :04:34.name after winning Grands Prix! But he is a proud Spaniard, back in the

:04:35. > :04:38.country, enjoying the support of the local crowd. Lovely, giving that

:04:39. > :04:41.child his cap, fantastic scenes, and that crowd will be hoping for

:04:42. > :05:00.exactly the same thing all over again.

:05:01. > :05:19.This is race five, the Spanish Grand Prix...

:05:20. > :05:25.Going into this one, just four points separate the Silver Arrows

:05:26. > :05:32.boys, and despite three consecutive wins for Hamilton, Rosberg is still

:05:33. > :05:37.clinging onto the top spot. Terrific campaign from Nico Hulkenberg,

:05:38. > :05:42.followed by the Red Bull players. Red Bull have a lot of work to do to

:05:43. > :05:47.win the constructors' championship, they are 97 points down on the

:05:48. > :05:51.dominant force that is Mercedes. And they did fare very well in

:05:52. > :05:56.qualifying yesterday, which wasn't really a surprise. However, it was

:05:57. > :05:59.very eventful, here is Tom Clarkson.

:06:00. > :06:02.Qualifying started with a bang when Pastor Maldonado crashed on his

:06:03. > :06:06.first flying lap. The win a few plants two years ago for Williams,

:06:07. > :06:12.the Venezuelan will now start from the back of the grid. -- the winner

:06:13. > :06:19.here. Romain Grosjean puts together his best performance in qualifying

:06:20. > :06:22.this year to line up fifth head of the Ferraris. Luca di Montezemolo

:06:23. > :06:27.paid a visit on Friday to rally his troops, but it was not enough to

:06:28. > :06:32.inspire local hero Fernando Alonso, who starts seventh, and Kimi

:06:33. > :06:37.Raikkonen is sixth. Sebastian Vettel's luck continues to desert

:06:38. > :06:41.him, he failed to complete a lap in Q3 after a gearbox problem, and a

:06:42. > :06:45.replacement means he gets a five place penalty, starting from 15. No

:06:46. > :06:50.such problems at Mercedes, whose drivers treated us to a sensational

:06:51. > :06:53.prize for pole position. Lewis Hamilton pipped his team-mate Nico

:06:54. > :06:58.Rosberg by just over a tenth of a second to take his fourth pole of

:06:59. > :07:04.the year. Yesterday was so positive, today was really strong.

:07:05. > :07:09.Even in the final seconds, I was struggling so much with the car, so

:07:10. > :07:15.to be able to get that lap and be a Nico still, I was ecstatic. So

:07:16. > :07:19.Mercedes maintain their 100% pole position record, locking out the

:07:20. > :07:23.front row. Daniel Ricciardo is best of the rest in third, with Valtteri

:07:24. > :07:26.Bottas and impressive fourth for Williams. Grosjean leads the

:07:27. > :07:30.Ferraris, Raikkonen ahead of Alonso for the first time this year. Jenson

:07:31. > :07:35.Button is eighth in the lead McLaren. Felipe Massa starts ninth,

:07:36. > :07:43.Hulkenberg rounding up the top ten. Errors and Magnussen followed

:07:44. > :07:47.behind. -- Jerez. Vettel is 15th after the grid penalty, Max Chilton

:07:48. > :07:52.is the lead Marussia driver in 17. Then the Caterhams, Jean-Eric Vergne

:07:53. > :07:57.and Maldonado are at the back of the grid, Vergne paying the price for a

:07:58. > :08:01.loose wheel during practice and a ten place penalty.

:08:02. > :08:06.Mercedes are incredible form, we are joined by Toto Wolff, the big boss,

:08:07. > :08:10.the emphasis on big! This is just what you wanted going into this

:08:11. > :08:17.season, round five, all going so well, seems as though Mercedes is

:08:18. > :08:22.bringing out the best of both of the drivers, how important is that

:08:23. > :08:25.rivalry in terms of moving forward? The rivalry is beneficial for the

:08:26. > :08:30.team, because yesterday's qualifying was a good example, how they have

:08:31. > :08:36.been pushing each other. Nico had a bit of an edge, you have some good

:08:37. > :08:41.data, and finally it was Lewis, and I guess that is the positive aspect

:08:42. > :08:45.of the rivalry. Just continuing on that, how are you going to manage

:08:46. > :08:49.and control situations like in Bahrain? Will you interfere? You

:08:50. > :08:53.know, both of them have known each other for a long time, and they have

:08:54. > :08:56.had this situation in karting, where they raised each other in the same

:08:57. > :09:01.team for the championship. They are intelligent enough, and a smart and

:09:02. > :09:07.shrewd enough to manage the situation. You cannot come back

:09:08. > :09:11.after every single race and say, remember not to run each other off.

:09:12. > :09:15.They don't need a lot of management. You have been a racer, an

:09:16. > :09:20.entrepreneur, you are now the boss of motorsport. Where is your

:09:21. > :09:24.emotion? You have been a racer, an entrepreneur, now you are the boss,

:09:25. > :09:29.when the race starts, where are your emotions? That is the most critical

:09:30. > :09:34.part, because both of them know the one who has the edge in lap one, he

:09:35. > :09:39.has a great chance of winning the Grand Prix. I guess Corner number

:09:40. > :09:45.one, than the back straight is going to be the place where we are hoping

:09:46. > :09:56.for. As we speak to you now, where is your head? What are you thinking

:09:57. > :09:59.about? Win! Now? We are prepared, we have had all the discussions that

:10:00. > :10:04.you need to have, we had a strategy meeting this morning, where we were

:10:05. > :10:08.sitting together with the drivers and the engineers. We went through

:10:09. > :10:12.every possible scenario, but it is all academic once the lights go

:10:13. > :10:17.off, it is racing, it can be all different. Thank you very much for

:10:18. > :10:20.your time. An interesting qualifying session yesterday, Mercedes aside,

:10:21. > :10:26.going through the next three drivers, Daniel Ricciardo, Valtteri

:10:27. > :10:30.Bottas, Romain Grosjean, how spectacular was he yesterday? A big

:10:31. > :10:36.turnout for the books, I very impressed. We need lots of spice, we

:10:37. > :10:42.need to mix it up. We need to see the new guys, what can they do? Not

:10:43. > :10:45.such a great day for McLaren, just a few minutes ago Jenson Button coming

:10:46. > :10:50.into his garage, he doesn't seem to know what to do at the moment. What

:10:51. > :10:55.is going through his mind right now? I saw the statistics, their

:10:56. > :10:59.performance behind Mercedes in the first sector alone, and that

:11:00. > :11:01.involves a lot of straights. You went to find out what is happening

:11:02. > :11:10.at McLaren. McLaren, a team steeped in history,

:11:11. > :11:17.a name that conjures images of winning again and again.

:11:18. > :11:23.You expect to be winning every year you race with McLaren. It is the

:11:24. > :11:28.most prestigious team in Formula One. But something has gone wrong,

:11:29. > :11:31.it has been over five years since they won a drivers' championship,

:11:32. > :11:37.and even more worryingly, the last time they won the constructors, I

:11:38. > :11:42.was driving for the team. The last season was one of their worst ever.

:11:43. > :11:45.They didn't even have a podium. Heads have to roll. First, Martin

:11:46. > :11:53.Whitmarsh paid the price for failure, and arguably so did Sergio

:11:54. > :11:56.Perez. To revitalise the team, Mr McLaren himself, Ron Dennis, has

:11:57. > :12:01.returned to the front line after five years away. His goal, very

:12:02. > :12:09.simple - return McLaren to the top. But is it working? I don't know

:12:10. > :12:15.where we stand, in the first race we were quick and then a long way off

:12:16. > :12:24.the pace. Very poor rear grip! We need some upgrades. We are P12.

:12:25. > :12:30.We are not very quick at the moment. DRS is not working.

:12:31. > :12:36.It is pretty painful. We don't have enough downforce, that

:12:37. > :12:39.is our major weakness this year. One of Ron's first move was to bring

:12:40. > :12:48.Eric Boullier to the team, but what does he bring to McLaren? You we

:12:49. > :12:53.will see in a few months! It takes time to change, like a supertanker

:12:54. > :12:59.you have to steer a different way. I know that working for Ron Dennis can

:13:00. > :13:03.be a real challenge. He is tough and nice. We have spoken over the last

:13:04. > :13:10.few months, more than in the last three years. Ron lives and breathes

:13:11. > :13:14.through McLaren. You can only admire what he built. It means a lot when

:13:15. > :13:17.you see someone who was achieved what he is achieved in sport with

:13:18. > :13:22.this team, walking into the garage, walking over you, telling you where

:13:23. > :13:29.the team is going, what he wants from the team, and how hard is going

:13:30. > :13:35.to work to get there. A lot of pressure, but positive pressure to

:13:36. > :13:41.deliver and do it in a constructive way, let's say, a long-term way.

:13:42. > :13:44.Since losing star driver Lewis Hamilton to Mercedes, they have bet

:13:45. > :13:48.on young talent, but is the lack of experience costing them? With Lewis,

:13:49. > :13:52.it was a good relationship, we worked together and develop the

:13:53. > :13:56.car, in different directions. One would work, you would end up going

:13:57. > :14:00.the other way, joining the other car. But that is what you want in a

:14:01. > :14:04.team, two experienced guys moving forward. It is more difficult when

:14:05. > :14:10.you have a driver that is not experienced, a new drive in the

:14:11. > :14:13.team. Last year we had Checo for one year, now Kevin is in the team, so

:14:14. > :14:17.it does make it more difficult, I'm not going to lie about that! Cefn is

:14:18. > :14:23.inexperienced. He is learning quickly, but there is still two

:14:24. > :14:31.tempts there through was not having as much information or experience as

:14:32. > :14:35.we should have as a team. -- tenths. It looks this car is too far away to

:14:36. > :14:41.compete for the World Championships. So anything other than victory is

:14:42. > :14:48.failure in Ron Dennis's words. This is not an overnight thing. We won't

:14:49. > :14:53.be suddenly finding a Mercedes this weekend. We are looking for progress

:14:54. > :14:59.and that is Saul we can hope for. Well, fascinating thoughts. Jensen

:15:00. > :15:04.is behind us live in the car. Two things boys, Eddie, he talked openly

:15:05. > :15:09.about almost missing Lewis, or the experience of a Lewis, there is not

:15:10. > :15:12.many round, if Lewis was still in that team, do you, how much

:15:13. > :15:16.difference do you think would mean? I don't think it would make a lot.

:15:17. > :15:23.McLaren are in a very difficult space at the moment. We talk about

:15:24. > :15:26.inexperienced drive, we talked about various other things McLaren have a

:15:27. > :15:31.problem, where he is talking about the pain. Painful situation, and

:15:32. > :15:35.lack of downforce, these are not words you would normally associate

:15:36. > :15:39.with McLaren. They have a lot of soul searching. You hit the nail on

:15:40. > :15:48.the head David. What do you think has changed, looking in from the

:15:49. > :15:52.outside? If you look, they gave Lewis Hamilton a World Championship

:15:53. > :15:57.winning car. It is the issues of reliability that have cost them

:15:58. > :16:03.dearly, the liability is a direct factor. The general point about not

:16:04. > :16:08.having a more experienced driver, the problem it, he is not giving a

:16:09. > :16:12.vision of where he thinks the car needs to go, or how it compares to

:16:13. > :16:15.the car of the past. That is why he feels somewhat alone. We will have

:16:16. > :16:21.to see how it unfolds. Tom sat the end of testify pit lane with the

:16:22. > :16:26.latest. What have you got? O Good news for everybody who had technical

:16:27. > :16:31.problems, all of their problems have been solved. Kevin Magnussen had a

:16:32. > :16:37.power unit problem. It is noisy here. The run the first corner here,

:16:38. > :16:42.730 metres. It is the longest of year, there is a lot that can be won

:16:43. > :16:45.and lost on that first run to the corner, that is reason why Pastor

:16:46. > :16:50.Maldonado who shunted his car is going to start from the grid. He is

:16:51. > :16:54.hoping he can pass both Marussias and Caterhams before he gets to turn

:16:55. > :16:59.one. Thanks Tom. Talking of Daniel

:17:00. > :17:05.Ricciardo, he is the driver that has been sprinkled in stardust,

:17:06. > :17:12.outshining Sebastian Vettel, his team-mate. We caught up with him.

:17:13. > :17:18.Once again an astonishing effort by Daniel Ricciardo. He is on a roll.

:17:19. > :17:25.He is driving very wellful He has a good technical feeling for the car.

:17:26. > :17:33.-- well. Look how much quicker he has been going than Vettel. It is

:17:34. > :17:35.nice. I am sure it is feel filling him with confidence. I want to be

:17:36. > :17:48.part of it. Unbelievable. A lot of people have been surprised

:17:49. > :17:51.with how well that you have performed against Sebastian, but

:17:52. > :17:55.generally, have you surprised yourself at all or did you always

:17:56. > :18:00.have the knowledge and expectation? I definitely, you know, have you

:18:01. > :18:05.know a lot of belief and confidence in myself, and I knew that this

:18:06. > :18:08.year, yes, it would be, my biggest challenge yet, particularly up

:18:09. > :18:14.against Seb. At the same time I knew how good if guys are round me, and I

:18:15. > :18:17.knew if I could get comfortable with that environment I would deliver

:18:18. > :18:22.some good results. Deep down I knew it was in me and it is nice to have

:18:23. > :18:28.shown it, and now it is just to keep on doing it and not get complacent.

:18:29. > :18:31.People seem to forget, when you arrived in Formula One, you are used

:18:32. > :18:35.to getting pole positions and winning races in the junior formula,

:18:36. > :18:39.it must be nice to be at the front again, that is what got you into

:18:40. > :18:44.Formula One to begin with. Yes, it is a feeling I missed. If there is

:18:45. > :18:48.any lack of hunger it brings it back in a heartbeat. It is why I race,

:18:49. > :18:56.you know, race for the success, and I love winning, I am sure like a lot

:18:57. > :19:02.of us, but right now, I am 100% the most hungry I have been. Daniel

:19:03. > :19:06.Ricciardo is prove OK a true superstar. How are you dealing with

:19:07. > :19:11.the pressures of being in the press and being recognised and you know,

:19:12. > :19:15.you status has gone up. Yes, it is going up a bit! I don't know, I

:19:16. > :19:19.probably just look at my Twitter followers and OK, it is going up. It

:19:20. > :19:23.is nice, and I guess it comes with the territory, being with the World

:19:24. > :19:27.Championship team, and you naturally get more TV team being at the front

:19:28. > :19:31.of the grid and being in battles and that, so, it is cool, it's cool. I

:19:32. > :19:35.don't, I don't really see any of it as a pressure, it is what I want. It

:19:36. > :19:41.is definitely what I want. Now I have a taste of it I want more. What

:19:42. > :19:45.has pleased you most about your performance most so far this season?

:19:46. > :19:48.It is things I knew I had them in me, it was nice to prove it to

:19:49. > :19:53.myself, the start, the first lap, they are so critical, if you get off

:19:54. > :19:57.the line well, it can set up the race for you, and, we came out in

:19:58. > :20:02.Melbourne and Malaysia, the first two, where I was making a move in

:20:03. > :20:06.the first turn or second turn, and, you know, it is probably a point

:20:07. > :20:10.where a lot of guy, are wow, in kid is not afraid, whatever, I knew I

:20:11. > :20:14.wasn't afraid but it is mice to know you do have what it takes to be up

:20:15. > :20:19.there and you belong here. It is that sense of belonging which is

:20:20. > :20:22.nice. Every journalists asks you about measures yourself against

:20:23. > :20:26.Sebastian, but in fact, especially in qualifying you have been

:20:27. > :20:30.outperforming him, do you have to change your expectations as the year

:20:31. > :20:35.goes on? For me it is just important to not get caught up in the inteam

:20:36. > :20:39.battle. No, the way I see it, is yes, the last couple of races I

:20:40. > :20:42.finished ahead of Seb but I won't be jumping up and down because I beat

:20:43. > :20:46.him and we are still coming fourth. I want to make sure that each

:20:47. > :20:50.session I do, each qualifying, each race, personally I am get everything

:20:51. > :20:55.I can out of it, and I think by then, if I get to that point, and I

:20:56. > :20:59.am giving myself a ten out of ten every session I drive, think we will

:21:00. > :21:03.get to the place where I need to be and want to be. I hope you get some

:21:04. > :21:06.champagne this weekend. It would be nice. Cheers.

:21:07. > :21:10.Thanks. Certainly looks very relaxed. He

:21:11. > :21:14.always does. That is the Red Bull garage. The VIP guests looking on,

:21:15. > :21:19.hoping that they can close that gap to the Mercedes. What a measures

:21:20. > :21:23.young man he seems to be. Very structured, very simple, in terms of

:21:24. > :21:28.his view, what he wants to get an he is not complicated. He is not phased

:21:29. > :21:34.by what is round him, and he is not fazed by the four times World

:21:35. > :21:38.Champion. We have seen his performance, remarkable and a joy to

:21:39. > :21:42.watch by the way. A lot of that is down to his character, how much do

:21:43. > :21:46.you put down to the fact the pressure is more on Sebastian nan

:21:47. > :21:49.Daniel? They are different forms of pressure, you can never quantify

:21:50. > :21:56.which is the worst one to have, because some people actually thrive

:21:57. > :22:00.on pressure, and I think the situation with Ricciardo is that he,

:22:01. > :22:04.he looks as if this is what he want, he has just said that, and there is

:22:05. > :22:09.nothing in the world he wants more than what he is currently do, I

:22:10. > :22:11.don't see that as being pressure. Y there is pressure on Sebastian

:22:12. > :22:15.because the season has not started like he would like it to have, and

:22:16. > :22:19.they have got a massive uphill battle the try and compete against

:22:20. > :22:26.Mercedes, but they knew that this time last year that Mercedes would

:22:27. > :22:30.be strong this year. Shots of Bernie Ecclestone who is busy but is here.

:22:31. > :22:33.He had a meeting with the promoters yesterday, apparently about the

:22:34. > :22:38.noise situation, which everybody else seems to be perfectly OK with.

:22:39. > :22:43.Well, I any he is concerned. He thought -- I think. Motor racing for

:22:44. > :22:48.so many years, the noise was a major factor and it was for me, but as

:22:49. > :22:53.years go on and I am getting more and more deaf I am really pleased to

:22:54. > :22:56.hear the sounds of car, they are still excite exciting. The racing is

:22:57. > :23:01.the same. In some areas it is better. We saw that tight battle in

:23:02. > :23:06.Bahrain. I am more interested to see the racing as the spectacle and the

:23:07. > :23:10.noise less so, but it is still very noisy here as we saw a few seconds

:23:11. > :23:13.ago, I don't think it a big issue. Surely the promoters should be

:23:14. > :23:20.talking about the phenomenal technology, that is in those cars

:23:21. > :23:24.that we are going to see. There is a third less fuel and hardly any

:23:25. > :23:29.seconds. That is incredible. That is the measure. The FIA are

:23:30. > :23:34.calculating, and, yes, there are probably upsetting some people, you

:23:35. > :23:39.know, the old traditionalist, the noise the fact, the 16 cylinder,

:23:40. > :23:43.which would knock your ears out, at a moment's notice, you can't clearly

:23:44. > :23:46.have that, there is things like safety, there is the health and

:23:47. > :23:49.safety we know what is going on these days, and they are from for a

:23:50. > :23:52.good reason, that is to prolong our wellbeing as long as they can, if

:23:53. > :23:59.that is what is required we have to move with the times. We We have been

:24:00. > :24:01.looking at pictures there, of Sebastian Vettel, yesterday

:24:02. > :24:04.Christian talking about his driving style and the fact that he has been

:24:05. > :24:08.trying to make the car fit to his driving style. Now he has to drive

:24:09. > :24:14.round the problems himself. I just don't buy that at all. That is

:24:15. > :24:20.nonsense. I think that a nice little reason as to try and find out what

:24:21. > :24:24.is happening, between Daniel Ricciardo and Sebastian Vettel, why

:24:25. > :24:29.is Ricciardo suddenly quicker? I don't buy the fact that it is a

:24:30. > :24:33.driving style. If he was that good, four times World Champion, are you

:24:34. > :24:36.joking me, Susie, there is not a chance, he should be able to drive

:24:37. > :24:39.round that with his eyes shut. On the way to grid apparently.

:24:40. > :24:45.Sebastian said there is something wrong with the car, something keeps

:24:46. > :24:48.lob, it is not getting better, the inside front keeps locking Yes, if

:24:49. > :24:52.that is the case that is a worry, I am just, you know, he will have to

:24:53. > :24:56.monitor that as he goes along, these things do happen. They don't have a

:24:57. > :25:01.morning warm up, so he has had to find way, as he was doing his

:25:02. > :25:05.exploratory laps, but they, the mechanics will find that, it is

:25:06. > :25:09.either dust in the brake disks, something locking or touching, I am

:25:10. > :25:12.sure he will get it, because there have a lot of adjustment in the car

:25:13. > :25:17.as they go along, he will sort that out. Yes, he certainly will. If you

:25:18. > :25:20.are joining us at Formula One for the first time, you may not know

:25:21. > :25:24.that Sebastian had technical problems all weekend. No drive

:25:25. > :25:28.yesterday during qualifying, problems on Friday, didn't get to go

:25:29. > :25:33.and go out on the track at all Eddie, so he really is behind the

:25:34. > :25:38.field here. But he knows this place, it is not ass if it is his first

:25:39. > :25:41.time in Formula One he has that problems before, he is a

:25:42. > :25:47.professional. World Champion time and time again, he is the man who

:25:48. > :25:50.really can sort this out, and foolhardy to write him off. He could

:25:51. > :25:55.turn round here, he won't win the race but at the same time he could

:25:56. > :25:59.make a big performance. Still a man to fear for the rest of the season.

:26:00. > :26:06.For sure. So David is on the grid for u let us see who he has got hold

:26:07. > :26:09.on. I am down here behind Sebastian's car and if the weekend

:26:10. > :26:12.couldn't get worse, he has gone running off the grid to find his

:26:13. > :26:17.race engineer, who is not here, he was complain of locking on the way

:26:18. > :26:21.to the grid. I might see if I can get a line from Christian Horner. We

:26:22. > :26:24.heard Sebastian complaining of locking, have you got any update on

:26:25. > :26:28.that, he has gone off to see his engineer? I think it is a software

:26:29. > :26:39.issue so changing a few settings. Just to get it how he wants. We are

:26:40. > :26:48.going the get run over by Alonso. Is that control, alt, delete. Fernando

:26:49. > :26:52.Alonso making his way to the grid; Sebastian's race engineer, he would

:26:53. > :26:56.normally be here, you can see him knocking over an electrical box, he

:26:57. > :27:01.would be ahead of the car arriving at grid, but that software issue has

:27:02. > :27:06.clearly got them in a bit of bother. Ian,

:27:07. > :27:06.clearly got them in a bit of bother. the drink system to the car, as well

:27:07. > :27:12.narks is going in there, at the last moment, because the cockpit gets up

:27:13. > :27:16.to 50 degrees, you can see this Natty low pressure nard Sven or

:27:17. > :27:26.animal print seat cover he has going for this weekend. Any way -- leopard

:27:27. > :27:30.print. Mag Marx in good shape in terms of the amount of tyres he has

:27:31. > :27:37.available. But not in terms of his position on on the grid. We have

:27:38. > :27:42.Daniil Kvyat. He has not arrived at the grid as yet. So hope from is not

:27:43. > :27:47.an issue there. There is a man we saw, we saw earlier on the weekend.

:27:48. > :27:51.Joseph, we saw a very nice part of your feature on the Senna feature we

:27:52. > :27:56.had yesterday in the show, so emotional memories 20 years on. The

:27:57. > :28:01.The memories are incredible. So many questions after 20 year, as you

:28:02. > :28:07.know, you, it is incredible. For me, it is more or less, I am happy,

:28:08. > :28:11.being part of this team on the other side we are sad that he is not there

:28:12. > :28:17.any more. It's a great feeling that everybody is talking about how

:28:18. > :28:20.important this man was. Absolutely. Have a good lock with your man you

:28:21. > :28:24.are looking after this afternoon, he is working for the Sauber team.

:28:25. > :28:29.Sergio Perez. Both guys, I think we have to look out for. Perez is just

:28:30. > :28:35.starting to talk a walk off the grid. Let us see if Nico has done

:28:36. > :28:39.likewise, both have two sets of tyres available of the option. Two

:28:40. > :28:44.stops this afternoon should be the quickest way round this Grand Prix,

:28:45. > :28:49.but giving the pretty close tie up with three stops as well, so they

:28:50. > :28:53.have got full choice this afternoon in what they are able to do. Felipe

:28:54. > :28:58.Massa, feeling he is some way out of position, we saw the performance of

:28:59. > :29:03.his team-mate Valtteri Bottas. So look out for him, as Tom mentions,

:29:04. > :29:08.long run down to the first corner, so certainly a good opportunity for

:29:09. > :29:12.him to convert that. We can see the meeting of great minds here with

:29:13. > :29:17.McLaren. I don't know whether we will be able to get a word with Ron.

:29:18. > :29:21.Sorry to interrupt but last my opinion briefing? We were talking

:29:22. > :29:34.about the ammient temperature and how it will affect the tyres. What

:29:35. > :29:38.are your expectations this weekend? Not where you expect McLaren to be,

:29:39. > :29:43.but this is all about converting points this afternoon. Obviously,

:29:44. > :29:47.today is just about points, but as much as the grid positions do not

:29:48. > :29:50.reflect it, we are going forward, we have direction now, so wait and see.

:29:51. > :29:55.A few more races, it takes time to turn things around. Thank you for

:29:56. > :30:02.your time. Wright, let's see if we can get a word with their driver...

:30:03. > :30:09.We will wander down the middle of the grid, that is Fernando Alonso's

:30:10. > :30:13.car. Romain Grosjean, great qualifying. Lotus have a very

:30:14. > :30:17.troubled start to the season, but great comeback from that. The young

:30:18. > :30:29.Finn, Valtteri Bottas, fantastic qualifying. Let's see we can get a

:30:30. > :30:32.word with him. He is just talking to Canal Plus, but we will hang in if

:30:33. > :30:36.we may. He is a very composed young man, you can see his confidence

:30:37. > :30:39.growing from the back end of last year, that twinge of a smile on the

:30:40. > :30:44.corner of his face as he is realising he's doing a good job.

:30:45. > :30:48.Felipe Massa is a great team-mate for him. We know you are very happy

:30:49. > :30:51.at the qualifying yesterday, in a good position, good straight-line

:30:52. > :30:57.speed, long run to the first corner, have you got a plan, just keep to

:30:58. > :31:04.the inside or go for it? Not really, difficult to plan. You just need to

:31:05. > :31:08.see where is the gap. Of course, you may be watched some videos from

:31:09. > :31:12.years before, what is the trend, what is going to happen in turn one,

:31:13. > :31:16.what line is the best, but in the end you have to react. What is

:31:17. > :31:21.trending from the past? Then we can make that trend on Twitter! What is

:31:22. > :31:25.going to happen? I think it is important to get good position for

:31:26. > :31:35.turn three, not to get blocked. If you too wide in turn one, it is easy

:31:36. > :31:39.to go straight from turn two. I would rather the inside for turn one

:31:40. > :31:44.and turn three. Good luck with that. If we go across the grid, we

:31:45. > :31:49.came past someone he needs to look out for on the run down to the first

:31:50. > :31:52.corner, Romain Grosjean. I am impressed how he has kept his head

:31:53. > :31:57.through the difficulties of preseason, just about to take his

:31:58. > :32:03.seat. I will see of Romain has got one word for us. I know you are

:32:04. > :32:06.looking very relaxed, if I can interrupt your concentration, great

:32:07. > :32:10.qualifying, really impressed with how you kept your head through a

:32:11. > :32:14.difficult start to the season, what are your realistic expectations I

:32:15. > :32:17.don't know, yeah, yesterday was a good day, it is good that we are all

:32:18. > :32:21.back where we like to be. Hopefully, race pace will be good and it would

:32:22. > :32:28.be nice to stay more or less where we are. What you think the majority

:32:29. > :32:33.of the strategy will be, two or three? It will be between two or

:32:34. > :32:38.three depending on tyre wear and graining. What do you think the

:32:39. > :32:41.majority will do? Honestly, I think it will really depend on training,

:32:42. > :32:51.June to the rain last night. Best of luck. -- it will depend on graining,

:32:52. > :32:55.due to the rain last night. I am not sure if Daniel Ricciardo is still

:32:56. > :33:02.there, I noticed Alain Prost, by the row when I was a young boy, was on

:33:03. > :33:06.the grid. We can see Daniel's car. I have just walked past Adrian Newey,

:33:07. > :33:08.who is about to have a word with Bernie Ecclestone. They are

:33:09. > :33:11.discussing the script for this afternoon! I will not interrupt that

:33:12. > :33:22.conversation! If we wait a moment, Bernie looking

:33:23. > :33:31.very fresh. We will just give them a moment, get a quick line, an update

:33:32. > :33:36.on Sebastian's car. Let me just see, Adrian, just one line, we heard

:33:37. > :33:42.there were some software issues with Seb, any updates? Yeah, no, we have

:33:43. > :33:45.been rebuilding the car from last night with the gearbox problem, and

:33:46. > :33:49.there is a minor problem that cropped up, but it is all OK now.

:33:50. > :33:53.This is all about trying to maintain position until you get the horse

:33:54. > :33:59.power sorted out, trying to get third place. Sorry, I couldn't quite

:34:00. > :34:03.hear you, too many years in motor racing, it is the generators, not

:34:04. > :34:08.the cars, that make the noise! The question for Daniel, he will try to

:34:09. > :34:13.get a clean start, very difficult to overtake here, so if he can maintain

:34:14. > :34:16.position, go from there. Good luck with that. Let's make our way

:34:17. > :34:21.finally to the front of the grid, and we have Nico Rosberg, of

:34:22. > :34:25.course, the pole man last year, an amazing qualifying run yesterday,

:34:26. > :34:29.Lewis Hamilton seemingly pulling it all out at the end, getting that

:34:30. > :34:33.pole position. As we get to the end of this, I'm going to take a quick

:34:34. > :34:37.walk with Niki Lauda, if I may, any final instructions to your drivers?

:34:38. > :34:42.I know what you used to tell the young drivers, but you can't say it

:34:43. > :34:48.on the BBC! Do whatever you want! But don't crash into each other!

:34:49. > :34:56.There is no restriction, I know that Nico wants to win the race so I wish

:34:57. > :35:02.them both good luck. More nervous than when you use to race? Go I

:35:03. > :35:08.can't interfere! As you know, when you raise, you can do something. It

:35:09. > :35:12.will be an interesting race. We look forward to seeing it, best of luck.

:35:13. > :35:19.I will hand back to Suzi and Eddie and had up to the commentary box.

:35:20. > :35:24.A perfect way to end that, talking to Niki Lauda, who always says it as

:35:25. > :35:28.it is. Isn't it magnificent they are letting those boys race? If not, we

:35:29. > :35:34.would have a different championship. Well, I think, you know, a lot of us

:35:35. > :35:41.all the Hand-Niki Lauda programme, that was exciting, and racing is in

:35:42. > :35:46.his soul, he does not want to stage manage something. Niki Lauda is a

:35:47. > :35:53.real racing driver and it is in his blood, and he will be very strong

:35:54. > :36:00.about them not making any change. We can catch up with Sergio Perez.

:36:01. > :36:04.Well, Checo, a trickier day yesterday than you expected, how

:36:05. > :36:08.will the car be working today? I think we are going to be in better

:36:09. > :36:12.shape than yesterday, so definitely we should be aiming for good

:36:13. > :36:17.points. Thank you, well done. OK, let's have a good look at the track

:36:18. > :36:27.as we compare the two fastest laps yesterday from Lewis and Nico.

:36:28. > :36:35.The qualifying lap in Barcelona 2014, Lewis Hamilton has already

:36:36. > :36:40.started the preparation for 14-15, flat out, but as we start the

:36:41. > :36:44.Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona, pole position last year was taken by

:36:45. > :36:48.Nico Rosberg on the right, but as they enter turn one, Lewis is

:36:49. > :36:52.already a quarter of a car length ahead. That preparation at the end

:36:53. > :36:55.of the previous lap has stolen a march before they have gone round

:36:56. > :37:02.the first corner. Nip and tuck through two and three, building

:37:03. > :37:10.speed, 140, 100 P8. Both drivers making adjustments to the steering

:37:11. > :37:15.wheel, different setups. -- 140, 150 mph. Down into turn four, both on

:37:16. > :37:21.the same line, Lewis with a bit more steering lock at the apex. Oversteer

:37:22. > :37:27.on the exit, a small block of for Lewis down into turn five, on a much

:37:28. > :37:33.wider line, but thankfully it is a very open apex. -- a small lock-up.

:37:34. > :37:39.Working the wheel, both drivers, oversteer on exit. On the rise up to

:37:40. > :37:44.nine, he has increased his lead to almost a car length. Sizeable lived

:37:45. > :37:55.through nine compared to previous years, less downforce in the car. --

:37:56. > :38:01.sizeable lift. Lewis Hamilton is still maintaining that lead through

:38:02. > :38:05.turn 12. Both drivers nice and tidy, they only have the last part, the

:38:06. > :38:10.Monte Carlo part of the Barcelona circuit, to complete. Nico Rosberg

:38:11. > :38:15.has traditionally have the advantage here, but as they exit 14 into 15, a

:38:16. > :38:20.full car length for Lewis Hamilton, with only 16 to go. They deploy all

:38:21. > :38:30.the energy from the car, and that the line it is only 0.168 of a

:38:31. > :38:34.second that separates the drivers. Can Lewis Hamilton make it his first

:38:35. > :38:39.victory at the Spanish Grand Prix? That is the scene for the Spanish

:38:40. > :38:43.Grand Prix, the same front row was last year but switched positions. We

:38:44. > :38:50.have seen seven different winners over seven years, Lewis Hamilton has

:38:51. > :38:54.never won here, could he be the eighth?

:38:55. > :39:04.Felipe Massa wins in Spain! Victory for Kimi Raikkonen! Jenson Button

:39:05. > :39:13.has done it again! Mark Webber, here he is! It is Red Bull on a charge!

:39:14. > :39:18.Vettel wins the Spanish Grand Prix! Pastor Maldonado wins in Spain!

:39:19. > :39:41.Fernando Alonso wins the Spanish Grand Prix! His home event!

:39:42. > :39:45.In 1991, this Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya posted the

:39:46. > :39:49.Spanish Grand Prix for the first time with a race won by Nigel

:39:50. > :39:53.Mansell, who went head to head with the late, great Ayrton Senna. On

:39:54. > :39:58.three other occasions, the race has been won by a British driver, but

:39:59. > :40:01.not by Lewis Hamilton. Around five of us not only a chance to brake bad

:40:02. > :40:08.bogey but take the championship lead for the first time since the

:40:09. > :40:13.beginning of 2012. Four wins out of five has not made up for his

:40:14. > :40:17.non-finish in Australia, but 66 laps of this testing layout could provide

:40:18. > :40:21.the opportunity to leapfrog Rosberg. First, he has to take

:40:22. > :40:24.control of the start, with the longest run into turn one of all the

:40:25. > :40:28.circuits, so plenty of opportunity for those around him to go on the

:40:29. > :40:36.attack. Alonso went from fourth to lead into turn one a few years ago,

:40:37. > :40:39.and last year he won from fifth. Today Alonso start seventh, but

:40:40. > :40:43.perhaps it is as being too much of even his skills to expect him to be

:40:44. > :40:48.challenging the all congregant Mercedes into the first corners.

:40:49. > :40:51.Christian Horner chatting away with Bernie Ecclestone as we prepare for

:40:52. > :40:55.the build-up to the start. Sebastian Vettel, all the way down in 15th

:40:56. > :41:00.position courtesy of a gearbox penalty, that change incurs a five

:41:01. > :41:05.place penalty. Fernando Alonso, the home start, who has qualified in the

:41:06. > :41:10.top ten every time this year, but this is his second worst of the

:41:11. > :41:15.season, worst since he joined Ferrari. The last time he qualified

:41:16. > :41:20.that far down was with Renault in 2009. Valtteri Bottas starring in

:41:21. > :41:24.qualifying, the 24-year-old from southern Finland. We have seen some

:41:25. > :41:27.strong performances but not a podium for him. Williams have more

:41:28. > :41:32.concerned when it comes to tyre wear, and perhaps they will go for a

:41:33. > :41:37.three-stop race, rather than two. Hamilton and Rosberg, all must 80s

:41:38. > :41:42.front row. Daniel Ricciardo, strong for Red Bull, then Bottas. Grosjean,

:41:43. > :41:52.one of the surprises of qualifying, for locals. Raikkonen outqualifies

:41:53. > :42:05.Alonso on this occasion. -- for Lotus. Nico Hulkenberg has errors

:42:06. > :42:08.next door, then Daniil Kvyat. Esteban Gutierrez then Kevin

:42:09. > :42:13.Magnussen, who struggled with power issues. Vettel in 15th place, Adrian

:42:14. > :42:20.Sutil next door. Max Chilton have an excellent run, out qualifying his

:42:21. > :42:23.team-mate, Jules Bianchi. Ericsson outqualified Kobayashi for the first

:42:24. > :42:27.time in his short Formula One career. Jean-Eric Vergne has a ten

:42:28. > :42:30.place penalty after he lost a wheel in practice. Maldonado, who failed

:42:31. > :42:36.to set a time in qualifying after that accident in Q1. So Daniel

:42:37. > :42:40.Ricciardo, then, starting from third place on the grid, it is his fourth

:42:41. > :42:45.time that he has qualified top three. One of those times he did not

:42:46. > :42:52.get to start because he himself at a penalty, but Nico Rosberg... TEAM

:42:53. > :42:57.RADIO: It is so warm! It is very warm, more humid than it

:42:58. > :43:01.was. The air temperature is showing only 23 degrees, track temperature

:43:02. > :43:05.is 37, lower than in qualifying yesterday, David. It is, and that

:43:06. > :43:11.plays to some and not others, but we cannot tell which ones until they

:43:12. > :43:15.get under way. As Romain Grosjean explains, the rain overnight has an

:43:16. > :43:18.effect as well. The information you build through free practice gives

:43:19. > :43:23.you one picture, and you can accurately predict what you are

:43:24. > :43:26.going to get on race day, typically tyre wear is less of an issue on

:43:27. > :43:32.race day, but of course now we have got a green circuit, we are back to

:43:33. > :43:36.square one. Great to see a huge crowd, most of them gathered for

:43:37. > :43:39.Fernando Alonso, but support for drivers all the way through the

:43:40. > :43:43.field. Even Lewis Hamilton has been building a bit of a fan base in

:43:44. > :43:46.Spain. He was not that popular in his early days in Formula One when

:43:47. > :43:52.he was team-mate to Fernando Alonso, and of course they were such great

:43:53. > :43:58.rivals. In his own fan base now. Look at that, everyone is starting

:43:59. > :44:03.on the medium tyre, everyone except Jean-Eric Vergne is starting on the

:44:04. > :44:06.softer of the tyres. That is the on board camera with Vergne, who was

:44:07. > :44:12.starting on the harder compound tyre. He is the only one that will

:44:13. > :44:17.be starting on the harder tyre here today. Everyone else going for the

:44:18. > :44:20.softer, the medium, but everyone finding the conditions difficult

:44:21. > :44:23.over the weekend. If anything, the tyre choice has been quite

:44:24. > :44:33.conservative for this event, the teams have been struggling to get it

:44:34. > :44:37.to work effectively. That was where Rosberg lost out last time, because

:44:38. > :44:40.he lost the link to the team that allowed him to understand what he

:44:41. > :44:45.needed to do with the car. If you remember, Ben, on the parade lap he

:44:46. > :44:49.radioed in saying perfect start. Unless they were able to use that to

:44:50. > :44:53.contradict what his feelings were, I am not sure what else could have

:44:54. > :44:57.been changed. Again, all of these things that they are able to adjust.

:44:58. > :45:04.The clutch bite point. The engine map, it is based on historical data.

:45:05. > :45:07.By the time they make the race start proper there is more rubber on

:45:08. > :45:13.ground, the wind might be stronger, so even though the cars is at zero

:45:14. > :45:18.speed across the ground, if you have a gusting 20 kilometre per hour wind

:45:19. > :45:22.and that has an effect on the cars it is subtle but it has an effect.

:45:23. > :45:25.Rosberg with that narrow lead at the moment, over his team-mate Lewis

:45:26. > :45:29.Hamilton, he can change that round here this afternoon. Let us see if

:45:30. > :45:36.there is any late stories from the pit lane. Any news Tom? Ben, it is

:45:37. > :45:41.the usual Piccadilly Circus as the teams and mechanics rush back to the

:45:42. > :45:44.pit box, two bits of news. Fernando Alonso and palled Maldonado --

:45:45. > :45:48.Pastor Maldonado were the two drivers that passed through the pit

:45:49. > :45:51.lane the most on the way to grid. It will be fascinating what their start

:45:52. > :45:55.is like and what their graining of their tyres is going to be like. I

:45:56. > :45:59.have been speaking to Pirelli who say this should be a two stop race,

:46:00. > :46:04.that is the line from Pirelli. It depend on how the teams manage the

:46:05. > :46:08.overheating of the medium tyre. Let us wait and see what develops, we

:46:09. > :46:13.are onboard with Fernando Alonso. We have seen some brilliant starts from

:46:14. > :46:17.him over the year, he has had two victories at this circuit. In 2006

:46:18. > :46:21.for Renault and last year, 2013 when he was driving for Ferrari, he has

:46:22. > :46:25.been on the podium in three of the last four years and he has led at

:46:26. > :46:28.some point in each of last three years as the Mercedes top

:46:29. > :46:31.some point in each of last three together, looking confident and

:46:32. > :46:36.relaxed. Not the same confidence there as Red Bull. They have had a

:46:37. > :46:40.fair share of suss success, the way I view it, they know they are in

:46:41. > :46:46.recovery mode, be what a recovery, to get, to be the best of the rest

:46:47. > :46:50.if you like, Mercedes Grand Prix in conjunction with Mercedes high

:46:51. > :46:54.performance engines have aced this new regulation, that is demonstrated

:46:55. > :46:58.by the one second gap between the front row and Daniel Ricciardo in

:46:59. > :47:03.the second row. It has been remarkable, but which of the

:47:04. > :47:07.Mercedes will be strongest? Frank Williams watching the monitors.

:47:08. > :47:11.Williams took an astonishing victory here thanks to Pastor Maldonado. He

:47:12. > :47:15.starts at the back here today, driving for Lotus courtesy of the

:47:16. > :47:18.accident he had in qualifying. That is how they line up. Usually a

:47:19. > :47:23.slight advantage to the left-hand side looking from the driver's

:47:24. > :47:26.vantage point. Hamilton saying that the launch felt good. When Rosberg

:47:27. > :47:30.said that last time it all went wrong on the real start. So let us

:47:31. > :47:36.see what happens. Surely. Indeed. Fingers crossed as the final cars

:47:37. > :47:40.take their position. It will be Maldonado to bring up temperature

:47:41. > :47:51.rear with Vergne. So we have 66 laps of the Spanish Grand Prix to go, at

:47:52. > :47:57.the Circuit de Catalunya. Lights out. Hamilton getting off the line,

:47:58. > :48:01.he has the advantage, watch for Bottas in third place. Grosjean made

:48:02. > :48:05.a good start. He loses the pace. Now Grosjean locks up. Hamilton leads

:48:06. > :48:09.into the first corn earn and Ricciardo holds on to fourth. He has

:48:10. > :48:12.lost third to Bottas, so the Williams has been quick off the line

:48:13. > :48:16.all year long. Look at Grosjean on the attack in the Lotus as we go

:48:17. > :48:21.further down the pack here, with Sebastian Vettel, as he tries to

:48:22. > :48:27.battle his way through the order, starting at 15th. Kimi Raikkonen

:48:28. > :48:31.ahead of Alonso. He is under pressure,he has to go

:48:32. > :48:36.defensive. Alonso wide into five. There was a bit of bumping going on

:48:37. > :48:41.behind them. So far, Vettel in the middle of it all. Look at that.

:48:42. > :48:45.Wheel-to-wheel stuff. In Sauber. He has backed out. This is unusual

:48:46. > :48:49.territory. It Gloria Steinem since he has been starting that far down

:48:50. > :48:56.the grid. Alonso is trying to get past Raikkonen but he is not making

:48:57. > :48:59.it -- making it easy. They have one Williams up in third place at the

:49:00. > :49:05.moment. A lock up there, both Ferraris now catching the Lotus, a

:49:06. > :49:09.bit of Maldonado, Force India have got away well, Hulkenberg and Perez,

:49:10. > :49:15.you can see them running behind one and another in ninth and tenth. They

:49:16. > :49:18.have got past Gutierrez. The two McLarens wheel-to-wheel. Magnussen

:49:19. > :49:22.may be just ahead of Button. One of them off the circuit. That is

:49:23. > :49:26.Magnussen. He He was trying to run round the outside. He has to get

:49:27. > :49:32.right over the top of the kerb at turn 14. I think that was Vettel? We

:49:33. > :49:35.will check that in a second. Hamilton leads. Rosberg coming

:49:36. > :49:39.through in second place, already Hamilton trying to open up the gap.

:49:40. > :49:44.Get out of DRS range for when it comes into operation, there is a bit

:49:45. > :49:47.of dicing going on. Jules Bianchi trying to go down the outside of

:49:48. > :49:52.Gutierrez and almost doing it but not quite. Ten out of ten for

:49:53. > :49:58.effort. That Ferrari powered Marussia is getting a good launch

:49:59. > :50:01.off the last corner. He is under pressure from the Toro Rosso.

:50:02. > :50:07.Gutierrez is further up. He has had a good first lap. He is in 11th

:50:08. > :50:12.place, you will see him come through behind the Force Indias and behind

:50:13. > :50:22.him is Kvyat. Then Jenson Button who is 13th position. So Button 13th.

:50:23. > :50:25.Vettel is 14th. Did you see the oversteer on Kimi Raikkonen's car?

:50:26. > :50:29.My goodness he said yesterday, that every lap in qualifying was a fight.

:50:30. > :50:34.He is still fighting. . He and he doesn't want to be burning up the

:50:35. > :50:38.rear tyres, the life of them is projected up to round 20 lap, and

:50:39. > :50:42.leaving all those black lines on the race track, the rubber is no longer

:50:43. > :50:48.on the car because of the tyre. Looking more like a rally driver

:50:49. > :50:54.than a Grand Prix driver. That balance of the Ferrari not to his

:50:55. > :50:57.liking. In the Friday long runs it looks as though the Red Bull was

:50:58. > :51:02.better on its tyres than the William, we will have to wait and

:51:03. > :51:06.see. Bottas in third. Ricciardo chases, then Grosjean, up front the

:51:07. > :51:12.gap between Hamilton and Rosberg has increased to 1.6 seconds in these

:51:13. > :51:16.early stages, as we look to see Massa closing up on Fernando Alonso.

:51:17. > :51:20.Now they are beginning to spread out a bit. Vettel trying to close the

:51:21. > :51:24.gap to Jenson Button. There is Button behind him now is the Red

:51:25. > :51:27.Bull of Sebastian Vettel as we take a look at start. Let us look out for

:51:28. > :51:32.where it went wrong for Jenson Button. He didn't seem to get a

:51:33. > :51:37.launch off the line at all, losing places, as they find their way down

:51:38. > :51:44.this gaz opinion the scene of coming together. Grosjean, both front

:51:45. > :51:49.tires, whether that leads to flat spots remains to be seen. Daniel

:51:50. > :51:53.Ricciardo left plenty of space. One of the Marussias at the back was

:51:54. > :51:57.running wide through turn two. It all bunches up on the exit of three

:51:58. > :52:02.at the back of grid. You see onboard from Daniel Ricciardo.

:52:03. > :52:06.Very low RPM as they come off the line. Look at the start from the

:52:07. > :52:10.Mercedes powered engine, well, he was looking like he was going to

:52:11. > :52:15.drop down an further place as he ran into the braking zone. Leaves a wide

:52:16. > :52:21.line, a space, very sensible manoeuvre, eknows he has corner two

:52:22. > :52:26.coming up, then he settles into position. If you run that close to

:52:27. > :52:29.the car in front your front axle loses downforce. Onboard with

:52:30. > :52:34.Magnussen. Very short shift to second gear. A lot of wheel spin.

:52:35. > :52:38.Takes to the grass. Loses drive as a consequence of that, and it was a

:52:39. > :52:43.pretty fraught first lap for Magnussen. The smoke off the tyres

:52:44. > :52:51.of the Lotus, tries to go round the outside. Gets squeezed, and I am not

:52:52. > :52:56.sure... Raikkonen. How can you tell that from the thermal image, is it

:52:57. > :53:01.because he is ice cool? He is the only one with a thermal camera! You

:53:02. > :53:06.were honing in on his body temperature! Fascinating to see

:53:07. > :53:13.that. He fought off Alonso. He was having a good old try getting past

:53:14. > :53:17.him. That was the two McLarens and Jenson Button showing some manners

:53:18. > :53:21.to his young team-mate. One of the Caterhams getting a bit wide, and

:53:22. > :53:27.then, oh, having to go across the curb. That us was Maldonado on

:53:28. > :53:32.Eriksson. I don't know how many spare parts he has left on that, he

:53:33. > :53:36.has had so many bumps and shunts. There is frustration in the way he

:53:37. > :53:39.is going about the racing. They are still running amazingly, Maldonado

:53:40. > :53:46.is 20th. Eriksson is last, but you have to think there is some damage

:53:47. > :53:50.to the cars. Ass you told us in China with the carbon-fibre

:53:51. > :53:53.suspension it breaks or it doesn't bend, so hopefully the car is all

:53:54. > :53:59.right. Might have done some damage to the underbody because his had to

:54:00. > :54:06.go over one of the red kerbs. Look at... The two Mercedes pulling away,

:54:07. > :54:10.Bottas is now 5.6 seconds off the leader Hamilton. Hamilton has two

:54:11. > :54:17.seconds advantage so he is out of DRS range, now we are into DRS use,

:54:18. > :54:20.the drag reduction system. The wing flap open on Daniel Ricciardo's car.

:54:21. > :54:25.That will allow him a chance to close up. It is not easy to overtake

:54:26. > :54:29.with the DRS in operation. Based on the longer runs from free practise,

:54:30. > :54:33.Daniel should be able to run in clean air a bit quicker than

:54:34. > :54:38.Valtteri Bottas in the William, or certainly running that close to him

:54:39. > :54:42.suggests he is more comfortable to lean on the car, so he has to try

:54:43. > :54:46.and get on before he starts to lose performance from the tyres. A small

:54:47. > :54:51.lock up there, for a driver that tells you they are under pressure,

:54:52. > :54:54.if you have seen the guy in front puffing the inside wheel, we did see

:54:55. > :54:58.that from Valtteri Bottas during qualifying, you don't want to be

:54:59. > :55:02.doing that in the race, it will lead to damage and then there is a brave

:55:03. > :55:05.ant crawling across the front of the screen. I am sure everyone at home

:55:06. > :55:10.with their widescreen televisions would have a better view of our

:55:11. > :55:19.modest screen we have here in the commentary box. Ricciardo, he is in

:55:20. > :55:23.fourth place there, six tenths behind Valtteri Bottas. Grosjean is

:55:24. > :55:26.still behind them. The incident involving Maldonado and Ericsson is

:55:27. > :55:31.under investigation, so the stewards will take a look at that. Danny

:55:32. > :55:38.Sullivan is the drivers' steward here, drove in Formula One. Most of

:55:39. > :55:43.his racing was in the States and IndyCars, a winner of Indy 500.

:55:44. > :55:48.Bottas. Grosjean in fifth place, the Lotus hanging on well, the other

:55:49. > :55:52.Lotus, Maldonado we have seen in the war, but Grosjean is behind these

:55:53. > :55:55.two, holding on the fifth. Raikkonen ahead of Alonso. The Ferrari is

:55:56. > :56:01.running sixth and seventh. Then Massa in the other Williams, he is

:56:02. > :56:06.running eighth. Hulkenberg is ninth and Perez ten. Gutierrez outside the

:56:07. > :56:13.potential scoring point position in 11th. Kvyat is 12th and no move from

:56:14. > :56:20.Vettel on Button. He is still 14th although close behind him. Pressure

:56:21. > :56:26.being applied know. There was only a 7mph off settle. You would expect

:56:27. > :56:31.more than that to come from the DRS. Ron Woodroof drop back to two

:56:32. > :56:34.seconds gap. Look after the tyres. How do you decide, are you in a

:56:35. > :56:38.position to overtake do your have to look after the tyres? That is down

:56:39. > :56:44.the driver's judgment but it looks as if he is able to put enough

:56:45. > :56:48.pressure on Bottas to keep going. The team are not thinking that

:56:49. > :56:54.barring any reliability from Mercedes, for those who have tuned

:56:55. > :56:58.in are already what, six seconds down the road, after five laps of

:56:59. > :57:02.racing, and so, this is the battle for third place, effectively, but it

:57:03. > :57:06.looks to me, Daniel is getting himself into position. This is where

:57:07. > :57:10.the Mercedes power in the back will give an advantage, driving off turn

:57:11. > :57:16.16, on to the start finish straight but it looks as if Daniel is close

:57:17. > :57:20.he will get DRS but the off set in speed, so it is will be late by the

:57:21. > :57:24.time he is able to get on to his gearbox. Not sure he is close

:57:25. > :57:29.enough. Ricciardo is down the inside. Into turn one, Bottas isn't

:57:30. > :57:33.coming. Just gives him space and Ricciardo fails to make the move

:57:34. > :57:37.stick. Yeah, but ten out of ten for effort and great driving there from

:57:38. > :57:40.Bottas. Leaving enough space, knowing the momentum was going to

:57:41. > :57:45.take that Red Bull down on to that piece of Tarmac, so there is no

:57:46. > :57:51.point fighting over it. You will come together if you don't leave the

:57:52. > :57:56.space. Turn two comes quickly after one. That puts you in the perfect

:57:57. > :58:00.line for the apex of two. Dan quell will have to back out of it. He

:58:01. > :58:04.doesn't have too long before the team insists he backs out. I wonder

:58:05. > :58:09.if he can throw another chance of getting past in the next lap or so.

:58:10. > :58:13.So as he attacks for third place, to remind you further back Vettel is

:58:14. > :58:16.still chasing Jenson Button, Magnussen is running despite that

:58:17. > :58:22.moment he had on the first lap. He is in 15th. Sutil is 16th. Vergne

:58:23. > :58:27.17th. Bianchi is 18th with Maldonado on his tail now, so Bianchi leading

:58:28. > :58:31.the Marussia-Caterham battle. All cars are still running. Frank

:58:32. > :58:36.Williams will be loving this He wants to see his cars out winning,

:58:37. > :58:39.but more than anything he wants to see drivers going wheel-to-wheel.

:58:40. > :58:45.Well Bottas under pressure, but doing a great job.

:58:46. > :58:50.Lewis has been told he has only lost to Rosberg is in the toe. Rosberg

:58:51. > :58:53.just gains a bit of speed down the main straight because he is

:58:54. > :58:58.following the other car. Let us see whether Ricciardo is going to do the

:58:59. > :59:03.same. He sort of shows himself, but doesn't really go for it. This time.

:59:04. > :59:08.He doesn't have enough straight line speed. That DRS can give you

:59:09. > :59:14.anything up to 20 kilometres and hour, it shows how efficient that

:59:15. > :59:18.Mercedes-Williams is off the last turn. Now you are getting into the

:59:19. > :59:22.point where you have micro graining, the track is rubbering in, that will

:59:23. > :59:29.improve does the phase of the race. Starting to go off the line with

:59:30. > :59:34.just over 100 kilos of fuel. Limited to total -- total use for the Grand

:59:35. > :59:40.Prix. They will get a tenth quicker for each lap, in potential, in terms

:59:41. > :59:46.of weight of the car, but the Thais have degradation, so -- degradation.

:59:47. > :59:52.Look at the difference between the lap times and Hamilton-Rosberg. It

:59:53. > :59:54.is seesawing between them but by fraction, Rosberg was half a tenth

:59:55. > :00:17.faster than Hamilton. The Mercedes have just set a new

:00:18. > :00:22.fastest lap, identical to 1000th of a second. This is turn three, big

:00:23. > :00:28.correction for oversteer around the outside, he runs up towards four, I

:00:29. > :00:33.believe Gutierrez maintained that position. The camera decided to cut

:00:34. > :00:37.off that particular shot, but it is showing that he is behind. In fact,

:00:38. > :00:42.update, he is looking like he has made the pass. Yes, he has gone

:00:43. > :00:50.through, 11 plays for Daniil Kvyat, so if he did it there, very brave

:00:51. > :00:55.indeed. -- 11th place. Looking at the battles further down, Gutierrez

:00:56. > :00:59.just missing out a little bit, Sebastian Vettel now trying to close

:01:00. > :01:02.up on the Sauber. The Sauber with some lighter weight part on this

:01:03. > :01:06.weekend as they try to reduce the weight. It has been overweight all

:01:07. > :01:10.season long, they have managed to get it closer to the weight limit.

:01:11. > :01:14.On board with Sebastian Vettel as he chases the Sauber. Although they

:01:15. > :01:17.have got rid of some weight, the car has not looked particularly happy in

:01:18. > :01:21.terms of handling, both drivers have been struggling. Watch that Sauber

:01:22. > :01:36.head of us, see how it is behaving. The flash of the light is to do with

:01:37. > :01:40.when the energy harvesting system is working, but Vettel has an

:01:41. > :01:44.opportunity now, he will try to go around the outside and braking. A

:01:45. > :01:48.brave thing to try, it will give him the inside line in a moment for the

:01:49. > :01:56.right-hander, anti-Justin Hicks through. That is a brave move,

:01:57. > :02:02.brilliant. -- and he just makes through. To go around the outside of

:02:03. > :02:06.ten, it is off camber, you are relying a lot on the guy you are

:02:07. > :02:09.attacking to not squeeze you. I suspect if that had been a slightly

:02:10. > :02:13.more experienced driver, he would have opened his steering and allow

:02:14. > :02:18.the car to drift, pushing Sebastian out, which would have been fair

:02:19. > :02:24.enough. But in the end, he got it done. Let's see where Button got

:02:25. > :02:28.past Gutierrez, using DRS at the end of the straight. Massive overspeed

:02:29. > :02:37.combination of DRS, slipstream and the knowledge... This is a replay of

:02:38. > :02:41.Sebastian going around the outside. In the end, he was able to get a

:02:42. > :02:45.clean line around the outside and complete the past. Meanwhile,

:02:46. > :02:49.Alonso, this has been a stronger weekend for Raikkonen, he has earned

:02:50. > :02:57.the position in front by right in qualifying. It looks like he's not

:02:58. > :03:00.going as fast as Alonso in this phase of the race. He is not making

:03:01. > :03:06.any headway, they are keeping Grosjean insight, but not enough of

:03:07. > :03:11.a concern for the team to want to tell Raikkonen to get a hurry up. Of

:03:12. > :03:14.course, this is taking more out of Alonso's tyres than the clean air

:03:15. > :03:18.that Raikkonen is running in. It will be interesting when we get to

:03:19. > :03:23.lap 11, how far they can take the tyres. This will be two stops, that

:03:24. > :03:28.is the fastest way to do. Or will it be three because tyre usage? I

:03:29. > :03:34.suspect Mercedes will be able to make either of those strategies work

:03:35. > :03:37.for victory. Right now they are lapping 1.5 seconds faster than

:03:38. > :03:43.Bottas in third place and Ricciardo in fourth. We saw a five second stop

:03:44. > :03:47.and go penalty for Maldonado for causing a collision. We saw the

:03:48. > :03:51.collision between him and Ericsson. This is a new regulation for this

:03:52. > :03:55.year, he does not have to take it within the next couple of laps. He

:03:56. > :04:01.does have to take it when he gets to his first pit stop. So a longer

:04:02. > :04:06.first pit stop, said 45 seconds before the mechanics are allowed to

:04:07. > :04:11.get to work on the car. -- sit for five seconds. Bianchi is chasing

:04:12. > :04:19.after Vergne, who also started at the back of the field. Bianchi has a

:04:20. > :04:22.four second lead over Kobayashi, and Max Chilton is ahead of Ericsson. In

:04:23. > :04:28.fact, Chilton is just behind Kobayashi, something to watch later.

:04:29. > :04:36.Both Force Indias in the points, nine and ten. It looks good for Plan

:04:37. > :04:40.A. I was just going to save Perez keeping Hulkenberg honest. This is

:04:41. > :04:44.the sort of race with a bit of tyre management, being able to be kind to

:04:45. > :04:55.the tyres. This is where we have seen her as being strong, so a good

:04:56. > :05:02.showing from Force India. -- her as. They are in a good position here

:05:03. > :05:06.to score some points. Force India are actually ahead of Ferrari coming

:05:07. > :05:11.in in terms of the constructors points, only a couple of points head

:05:12. > :05:23.of Ferrari, but they are a head, and ahead of McLaren and Williams as

:05:24. > :05:27.well. All 22 cars are still running in this race, normally it is quite a

:05:28. > :05:34.good reliability rate, but we are still only five races into this

:05:35. > :05:46.brand-new breed of hybrid cars. Last time around, Perez had got into the

:05:47. > :05:52.DRS zone. He is only three seconds behind Massa, who is only 1.5

:05:53. > :05:58.seconds behind Alonso, so a lot to race for this afternoon. Button

:05:59. > :06:02.versus Vettel, a bit of overrun from Sebastian Vettel. You can do that in

:06:03. > :06:07.five, we saw in Lewis Hamilton's qualifying run, he ran a bit wide

:06:08. > :06:11.relative to Rosberg. Because the circuit opens, it does not cost you

:06:12. > :06:15.as much. I am not saying he deliberately went there, he was just

:06:16. > :06:19.trying to get onto the gearbox of Button, you could see how had he was

:06:20. > :06:24.working through nine, squirrel link around. We are not used to seeing a

:06:25. > :06:29.Red Bull moving around like that, usually it looks so planted to the

:06:30. > :06:33.track. It is partly the nature of the new regulations, more

:06:34. > :06:40.horsepower, more torque from the power units, and also a reduction in

:06:41. > :06:43.rear downforce. You could see how much more mechanical grip the Red

:06:44. > :06:49.Bull was generating through the slow section. Expect to see McLaren pull

:06:50. > :06:54.away off 16. An early stop for Vettel. That is an early stop for a

:06:55. > :06:58.three-stop strategy, but maybe it will just release him. They are

:06:59. > :07:04.playing the game a little bit, you may see a longer second stint for

:07:05. > :07:08.Sebastian Vettel. He goes on to the hard tyre. Right to the back of the

:07:09. > :07:12.field, Ericsson is the last of the runners coming out of the last

:07:13. > :07:16.chicane. He will be hoping that by the time he catches up to the back

:07:17. > :07:22.of the field, they will be pitting, or he will get some clean air. I

:07:23. > :07:26.expect he will get traffic earlier than he may have planned. That was a

:07:27. > :07:33.quick turnaround from the Red Bull crew. This is the race for third.

:07:34. > :07:36.Tom. A very late call for Sebastian Vettel, he was in the pit lane when

:07:37. > :07:41.the mechanics were still coming out, but what a well oiled machine they

:07:42. > :07:44.are. Despite that late call, no more than five seconds before he arrived,

:07:45. > :07:50.they were coming out, and they were still ready for him. It worked very

:07:51. > :07:54.well. Obviously, the Red Bull team are playing the strategy card.

:07:55. > :07:57.Bottas still in third, we heard Ricciardo saying he would drop back,

:07:58. > :08:09.but he still seems to have closed up to the back of Bottas' car, he

:08:10. > :08:13.clearly has more performance. Not under any real pressure from

:08:14. > :08:17.Grosjean. He has to make a decision, go with it as long as you can to be

:08:18. > :08:23.able to drop into some clear air, but he is not quick enough in a

:08:24. > :08:30.straight line stop no graining, the options seem fine. That is Rosberg.

:08:31. > :08:36.He took a little chunk out of Hamilton on the last lap. Good lap

:08:37. > :08:40.from Rosberg. Back on board with Daniel Ricciardo in the Red Bull,

:08:41. > :08:44.yet to score a podium finish, despite standing on the podium in

:08:45. > :08:49.Australia. He had it taken away afterwards. The hazard a couple of

:08:50. > :08:58.fourth places since then. -- he has had. Hamilton will want, and will

:08:59. > :09:03.have the first choice of when to pit if Rosberg decided he wanted to come

:09:04. > :09:07.in this lap, they would check with Hamilton's engineer. If he says he

:09:08. > :09:12.wants to come in and he can make it... A move by Magnussen and

:09:13. > :09:16.Gutierrez, he made that fairly easy. I think Gutierrez is

:09:17. > :09:21.struggling, we saw him past by Sebastian Vettel. He seems slow in a

:09:22. > :09:26.straight line in the Sauber. We did not see the red light flashing, not

:09:27. > :09:32.a necessity for the teams to carry that system, that software that

:09:33. > :09:39.flashes a red light when the car starts, or rather stops

:09:40. > :09:44.accelerating. Ricciardo in. Red Bull bringing both of their cars in

:09:45. > :09:48.relatively early, funny, because Ricciardo did an extremely long

:09:49. > :09:51.stint on Friday on this tyre, but because the overnight rain has made

:09:52. > :09:57.a difference, they are trying to use it to their benefit. He stays on the

:09:58. > :10:01.medium tyre, the softer tyre. We are hearing that Rosberg has been told

:10:02. > :10:06.they are planning to put the harder tyre on Rosberg's car. We may see a

:10:07. > :10:10.split in strategy between Hamilton and Rosberg. We saw it in Bahrain,

:10:11. > :10:16.when they were racing against each other, splitting the strategies in

:10:17. > :10:21.the middle of the race. Rosberg is a further 0.4 quicker now, he is more

:10:22. > :10:25.comfortable at this point, calling for the softer tyre. Vettel on

:10:26. > :10:29.Kobayashi, he has had that pit stop and is determined to make use of his

:10:30. > :10:36.new tyres. Let's see how he got past. Under braking into turn ten,

:10:37. > :10:41.he had the initial momentum, then up the hill, it was always going to be

:10:42. > :10:44.a difficult call to try and do it into nine. Kobayashi racing for

:10:45. > :10:50.position, so all fair. Chilton behind having a bit of a squirm as

:10:51. > :10:54.well, because he is not far behind Kobayashi. Grosjean threw in fifth,

:10:55. > :10:58.Raikkonen against locking the left front. We have seen him locking

:10:59. > :11:01.wheels on the last couple of front. We have seen him locking

:11:02. > :11:06.Grosjean has managed to eke out a slight advantage. Kimi also

:11:07. > :11:10.complaining over the radio that he cannot get traction out of corners.

:11:11. > :11:14.This is the area where it will hurt him most, coming out of the chicane.

:11:15. > :11:17.This is the area where it will hurt I refer to this as the Monte Carlo

:11:18. > :11:21.part of the track, it is usually a good indication of what we can

:11:22. > :11:26.expect in Monaco, with mechanical grip and the driver's confidence to

:11:27. > :11:31.let the car flow over high kerbs in that chicane. Grosjean has come in

:11:32. > :11:36.from fifth place, so that promotes Raikkonen up. Massa has also come

:11:37. > :11:41.in, Lotus go to work. A boost for them after such a difficult start to

:11:42. > :11:46.the season. Massa crossing over and coming in, just inside the top ten,

:11:47. > :11:50.remember. He started lower down after qualifying did not go

:11:51. > :11:54.according to plan. Pastor Maldonado, he will have to serve his five

:11:55. > :11:57.second penalty, so Pastor Maldonado coming into the Lotus pit, he will

:11:58. > :12:03.be sitting there for longer than normal. Both Ferraris running around

:12:04. > :12:07.so close together that you might expect them to split strategies and

:12:08. > :12:11.bring one of them in. It is an interesting test of their new team

:12:12. > :12:16.principal. This is the first experience for him of having to

:12:17. > :12:19.witness what looks like a situation where Alonso is losing time behind a

:12:20. > :12:25.Kimi. I do not see why they would not release him. This was Daniel

:12:26. > :12:29.Ricciardo getting past Jenson Button just a moment ago after his pit

:12:30. > :12:34.stop. He is on fresh tyres, using DRS, no problem. Pretty easy. He

:12:35. > :12:38.will be glad of those fresh tyres, he would have struggled to do that

:12:39. > :12:42.against the McLaren Mercedes otherwise. Already catching up to

:12:43. > :12:47.the next target, and that is Daniil Kvyat in Toro Rosso. Kvyat, who are

:12:48. > :12:50.scored in all bar one of the races so far this year, is running in

:12:51. > :12:55.tenth place at the moment. Of course, we have had a few pit stops,

:12:56. > :12:59.so he was promoted in the order just a little bit. Sensible stuff from

:13:00. > :13:05.him so far, staying out of trouble, no non-finishes at all. It has been

:13:06. > :13:09.a decent start to the year. Alonso is now in, Fernando Alonso is in. We

:13:10. > :13:12.did wonder whether one of the Ferraris might not be brought in,

:13:13. > :13:16.that could be to his advantage as Daniel Ricciardo now sweeps past the

:13:17. > :13:29.Toro Rosso, very straightforward. Speed: 338 km/h at the end of the

:13:30. > :13:34.straight, nearly 200 mph, as Downey and side goes Romain Grosjean, to

:13:35. > :13:40.get past the Sauber of Adrian Sutil. -- as down the inside. It looks like

:13:41. > :13:43.Alonso has been able to catch up a little bit through those pit stops,

:13:44. > :13:47.and then Grosjean got further traffic. We see Alonso in the

:13:48. > :13:54.background with fresh tyres, so that has allowed him to be released,

:13:55. > :13:57.chasing after the Lotus. Some of the difficulties that Jenson is

:13:58. > :14:00.experiencing, we have had a radio message, saying he started with too

:14:01. > :14:05.much front wing on the car, and that is something they can adjust during

:14:06. > :14:09.the pit stop. Jenson Button running in tenth place at the moment, but

:14:10. > :14:14.not having made a pit stop. Hamilton and Rosberg, the gap is 1.6 seconds

:14:15. > :14:18.between the two Mercedes, no sign of them coming in. It looks like

:14:19. > :14:23.Raikkonen will be coming in this lap, you can see Ferrari are ready.

:14:24. > :14:26.Raikkonen will be coming in this and it may be the earlier pit stop

:14:27. > :14:35.will have got him ahead, but he has a bit of traffic.

:14:36. > :14:40.Hamilton with the same lap time ass Rosberg on the last lap. Raikkonen

:14:41. > :14:47.is in. Kimi Raikkonen is in. So is he going to be able to get out?

:14:48. > :14:52.Alonso being held up so it is not helping this, Alonso, at all. It is

:14:53. > :14:58.going to be close, I think. Well, no Alonso has just gone past now, so

:14:59. > :15:02.where is Kimi in the pit lane? He is on his way out. We are watching

:15:03. > :15:08.Ricciardo tries to get past Perez, he is down the inside and he is

:15:09. > :15:13.through, and as Raikkonen has rejoined, they are pretty close

:15:14. > :15:16.together, as they go through turns two and three. Waiting to exactly

:15:17. > :15:20.see which one is in front. I think Raikkonen has got out in front of

:15:21. > :15:26.Alonso, so I don't think the Ferraris have swapped round on that

:15:27. > :15:31.first pit-stop and Alonso maybe a bit upset he caught traffic on that

:15:32. > :15:39.particular lap. Alonso using new tyres. Crucial stage of the race.

:15:40. > :15:42.Hamilton is in from lane. Rosberg has set hiss person at best lap of

:15:43. > :15:45.the race so far. There is a African National Congress wing adjust:

:15:46. > :15:49.Didn't look as if that was the quickest stop we have seen. There is

:15:50. > :15:53.no need to take any big risk. It interesting to see whether Rosberg

:15:54. > :15:59.is given a couple of laps to see if he can do anything. I suspect

:16:00. > :16:04.Hamilton with the fresher tyre, looks like he lost over a second.

:16:05. > :16:08.3.8 seconds is not that fast now. 2.5 is the margin you would be

:16:09. > :16:13.looking for It was just under two seconds the gap when he headed in

:16:14. > :16:19.from the lead, so that could be crucial.

:16:20. > :16:26.Let us just watch Alonso, this was Raikkonen coming out; just? Front of

:16:27. > :16:29.Alonso. Let us see how close this really was, we knew it was close. A

:16:30. > :16:35.lock up from Alonso. Raikkonen is on the inside and Raikkonen just

:16:36. > :16:40.managed to emerge in front. So it is status quo at Ferrari, as they hold

:16:41. > :16:48.their positions relativetive to one another. -- relative to one another.

:16:49. > :16:54.Both chasing after Grosjean who manages to stay in front of them.

:16:55. > :16:59.Behind, Felipe Massa, not far behind Fernando Alonso. Lock up running

:17:00. > :17:03.into turn one. So busy time in the pit, Tom what have you been seeing?

:17:04. > :17:07.Looking at the two Ferrari guys, they, the team treated their World

:17:08. > :17:12.Champions very equally at their pit-stops, so with the stop watch in

:17:13. > :17:17.my head they looked absolutely identical those two pit-stops, and

:17:18. > :17:21.Hamilton, I can see him from where I am standing, the front left was slow

:17:22. > :17:27.coming off. That is the reason he was delayed during his stop. I tell

:17:28. > :17:30.you what, this is getting exciting. Rosberg has set fastest lap of the

:17:31. > :17:36.race on these tyre, so whether they are on different strategy, he has

:17:37. > :17:42.looked after his tyres well, he has done a 1: 31. Hamilton lost a

:17:43. > :17:46.Frankion of a second on the pit-stop. Rosberg is again better

:17:47. > :17:51.than he has done personally in that first sector -- fraction.

:17:52. > :17:53.Unlikely the tyres are getting better, that is clear, he has a

:17:54. > :17:57.range of things he could be deploying. He could be saying I am

:17:58. > :18:01.going to use more of my fuel allocation for two or three laps and

:18:02. > :18:05.get the jump on my team-mate. That will compromise me later but it is

:18:06. > :18:10.about track position, and well, he will be well wear of all the tools

:18:11. > :18:15.he has at his disposal. -- well aware. I said the only thermal

:18:16. > :18:21.images camera was on Kimi Raikkonen, I was wrong, it is on Rosberg's car,

:18:22. > :18:25.a slightly different angle. As the tyres wear and the gauge of the

:18:26. > :18:29.tread gets a bit thinner, there is not much rubber on the racing tyre,

:18:30. > :18:35.that is when it is difficult for the drivers to retain heat in the

:18:36. > :18:38.carcass of the tyre. They use temperature measurements on the

:18:39. > :18:42.surface and body of the tyre to work out when the drivers are going to

:18:43. > :18:48.start losing grip. It is so scientific now, analysing, the

:18:49. > :18:59.performance of the tyre, the shots giving us an element of that. Able

:19:00. > :19:05.to deliver these lap times, 21.2 for Hamilton. It is all going to come

:19:06. > :19:10.down to the pit-stop of course, and I have to say, with Hamilton doing

:19:11. > :19:13.that time now, then I would be surprised if they don't bring

:19:14. > :19:17.Rosberg in next time round. He is not under any pressure from the cars

:19:18. > :19:22.behind, what he doesn't want is to come out and see a bigger gap to his

:19:23. > :19:26.team-mate than before. Valtteri Bottas has come in, he was

:19:27. > :19:30.effectively third in the early part of the race before they started

:19:31. > :19:34.making pit-stop, he will rejoin behind Ricciardo. Ricciardo has gone

:19:35. > :19:39.through and that was the race we we watching for third place earlier on,

:19:40. > :19:42.Ricciardo is up and exiting turn three. That means Valtteri Bottas

:19:43. > :19:49.has lost the position to the Australian, and he is now going to

:19:50. > :19:53.have to try and fend off Grosjean. Williams have been able to go to lap

:19:54. > :19:56.one, it is possible converse to what we thought, maybe Red Bull are on

:19:57. > :20:01.the free stop strategy and Williams will make the two stop work. In that

:20:02. > :20:06.case, of course, Bottas will still be fighting with Ricciardo for that

:20:07. > :20:11.third place. I can see Mercedes in the pit lane. The tyres are out of

:20:12. > :20:17.the blanket waiting for Rosberg to have his car services. 2.-- 3.8 for

:20:18. > :20:23.Hamilton's stop. It is the hard tyre going onboard. Away goes Nico

:20:24. > :20:28.Rosberg, so how far will he be behind Hamilton? Will he be behind

:20:29. > :20:32.Hamilton? One second quicker on the pit-stop. Hamilton is overtaking

:20:33. > :20:40.Ericsson, there goes Hamilton, just past Rosberg as they come down to

:20:41. > :20:44.turn one, gets the slipstream past Marcus Ericsson and Rosberg rejoins

:20:45. > :20:48.in second place. It hasn't made a huge difference. Hamilton is still

:20:49. > :20:53.in front but Rosberg went further into the race and they are now on

:20:54. > :20:58.different tyres. We will find out what the difference in lap time

:20:59. > :21:02.between the two compounds of tyre, it was well over a second in

:21:03. > :21:09.qualifying and it tend to reduce on scrub tires but we will get a direct

:21:10. > :21:14.comparison between the two tyre, the hard with the red mashings and the

:21:15. > :21:18.medium on Hamilton's car. This is exactly what Mercedes did in

:21:19. > :21:22.Bahrain. -- markings, they split the strategy putting one on medium, one

:21:23. > :21:26.on hards and then we add the excitement of the safety car.

:21:27. > :21:30.Psychologically for Nico, this is going to be challenging, because you

:21:31. > :21:34.would expect to see Lewis pull away, with the tyres with more

:21:35. > :21:37.performance, and it is all going to be about, well, are we going to do

:21:38. > :21:42.different strategies this afternoon? Am I going to be coming close to him

:21:43. > :21:47.again later in the Grand Prix? Watching the two Force Indias.

:21:48. > :21:50.Hulkenberg ahead of Perez, they have been like this welled together for

:21:51. > :21:54.most of the afternoon. Vettel is now ahead of them but we believe that

:21:55. > :21:57.Vettel is on a three stop strategy. He made a pretty early pit-stop,

:21:58. > :22:02.where it is likely that Force India will go through on two stops, but

:22:03. > :22:08.for the moment Vettel is in ninth position, and only one point -- 1.6

:22:09. > :22:12.seconds behind Felipe Massa. If If you remember the message for

:22:13. > :22:16.Rosberg, he said options feel good. He said the mediums feel good. He

:22:17. > :22:20.might be disappointed to find he is then being rewarded by given a set

:22:21. > :22:23.of the primes, the hard tyre. Interesting but I guess they would

:22:24. > :22:28.have agreed before the race started, as to what the strategy would be in

:22:29. > :22:32.certain scenarios -- scenarios do you think It sounded like he was

:22:33. > :22:38.sending the message the options feel good. It is like he has had a change

:22:39. > :22:41.of heart or why would you given the message other why, if you have

:22:42. > :22:47.nothing interesting to say don't say anything. Looking at the fuel used,

:22:48. > :22:52.and Hamilton again using a bit less than everybody else, we saw that

:22:53. > :22:56.last time out in China, Esteban Gutierrez making the move on

:22:57. > :23:01.Kobayashi to overtake into 17th position I believe that is. Yes, he

:23:02. > :23:06.is through and just looking at a replay onboard, Rosberg, what was

:23:07. > :23:12.this about? Lock up. That was very early in the braking phase.

:23:13. > :23:18.Struggling to get to grips with the less performance from the prime

:23:19. > :23:24.tyre. Has he got a little micro flat spot? He has some damage to the tyre

:23:25. > :23:29.now. Raikkonen is in sixth place. The gap between him and Alonso 1.9

:23:30. > :23:35.seconds. RADIO: How many laps? We need to

:23:36. > :23:41.increase the gap by about four seconds over the next 20 laps so we

:23:42. > :23:46.need to look after these tyres but build that gap. So no need to push

:23:47. > :23:50.hard. Your position is safe. You are looking to close the gap to Lewis to

:23:51. > :23:55.two seconds at the end of this stint. So there we are. Now we know

:23:56. > :24:00.the story. One needs four seconds, the other needs two. It is music to

:24:01. > :24:05.Lewis's ear, I am certain he knows he is on the option tyre, relative

:24:06. > :24:09.to his team-mate Nico Rosberg, and that will be pretty soul-destroying

:24:10. > :24:13.for Nico who will think, we are in the same car, we are pretty much the

:24:14. > :24:17.same but I am on a worse set of tyres. Raikkonen having a go at

:24:18. > :24:22.getting past Grosjean. He sweeps, does he, Grosjean comes back, oh,

:24:23. > :24:27.almost touch, the two former team-mates from last year at Lotus,

:24:28. > :24:31.going wheel-to-wheel in the first corner and Raikkonen loosing out

:24:32. > :24:35.That was a great attempt. Grosjean swept to the signed to defend the

:24:36. > :24:39.position. It looked like he had overplayed that. Raikkonen carried

:24:40. > :24:44.too much speed through one. Realised he was at risk of running over the

:24:45. > :24:48.kerb in two and Grosjean coming back at him, expect more of this action.

:24:49. > :24:52.That is allowing Alonso to sneak back up. Has he dropped back to

:24:53. > :24:57.preserve his tyres or does he have an issue. Here he comes, Grosjean

:24:58. > :25:02.sees him, quite late on he makes a move to the right. That would be

:25:03. > :25:06.questionable. You have to make your intentions clear, and Grosjean comes

:25:07. > :25:10.back. They didn't actually touch but it came very close. So for the

:25:11. > :25:16.moment Grosjean stays fifth and Raikkonen is still locking that

:25:17. > :25:20.brake in sixth place. Alonso is in seventh.

:25:21. > :25:24.RADIO: I have an exhaust problem. So garage know. Dear or dear it doesn't

:25:25. > :25:30.get better for Jean-Eric Vergne, he has had a couple of non-finishes and

:25:31. > :25:33.it looks as if he is heading for another one. Disappointing for the

:25:34. > :25:38.Frenchman in the Toro Rosso. He is running in 15th position. Currently.

:25:39. > :25:45.Running through the field as we enjoy this race for fifth place

:25:46. > :25:49.which has allowed Alonso to catch up. Alonso has had his best lap.

:25:50. > :25:57.Here comes up. Alonso has had his best lap.

:25:58. > :25:58.limitation on his top line speed, up. Alonso has had his best lap.

:25:59. > :26:02.because the Ferraris are not usually that much quicker in a straight

:26:03. > :26:06.line, than a Renault, that than the latest Renault car so there is a rob

:26:07. > :26:11.for Grosjean, I am sure There could be that or a pure strategy play, we

:26:12. > :26:16.will use a bit more of what we have available this afternoon, to mount

:26:17. > :26:19.an attack, Lotus could be in a fairly conservative mode, whether

:26:20. > :26:26.that is because they have overdone it in the first phase of the race or

:26:27. > :26:30.maybe they are disguising a problem. Yes, Jean-Eric Vergne looks as

:26:31. > :26:33.though it is all over for him for another weekend. His third

:26:34. > :26:38.non-finish of the season, if it stays in the garage, as Kimi

:26:39. > :26:42.Raikkonen has got past the Lotus, so the Lotus looks to be struggling a

:26:43. > :26:46.bit. He has made the one pit-stop. Alonso beginning to line him up.

:26:47. > :26:50.Surely Alonso is going to be past him here, he will try and fight him

:26:51. > :26:55.off. He gets enough traction off the corner to stay in front. Alonso

:26:56. > :27:00.wasn't able to react to that. He got the car turns but he tried to put

:27:01. > :27:05.the power down and lit up the rear wheels. This has given Raikkonen

:27:06. > :27:09.some breathing space. Raikkonen will already be trying to

:27:10. > :27:13.breathe. Alonso will be trying to make sure he is in the right

:27:14. > :27:17.position as he fights the rear of the car. Look how much road he thats

:27:18. > :27:21.to use. He is coming from further back than Raikkonen. Look at the

:27:22. > :27:27.difference in speed. In the end, that was fairly straightforward.

:27:28. > :27:33.Certainly the Lotus seemed to have a straight line speed deficit. For

:27:34. > :27:38.whatever reason, he can fight everywhere else round the lap, he

:27:39. > :27:44.can't fight it there It might be the Renault. A Renault in good working

:27:45. > :27:49.order is not much off a Ferrari. The Ferraris are down on overall power.

:27:50. > :27:52.Look at Bottas. Massa, I think it was, coming from behind. Let us look

:27:53. > :27:56.at how that happened. Raikkonen first of all on the replay, going

:27:57. > :28:02.past Grosjean. Looks like a bit more than a DRS

:28:03. > :28:05.effect, didn't it? Well, we will find out later in the Grand Prix, I

:28:06. > :28:11.am sure. Well, further down the order there

:28:12. > :28:15.is some good racing going on. Chilton told that Jules Bianchi was

:28:16. > :28:19.0.3 of a second quicker on the last lap, all under braking, so that is

:28:20. > :28:24.where Bianchi is making his time at the moment. Because the pit-stops

:28:25. > :28:28.are different I think Chilton is ahead of Bianchi currently. What is

:28:29. > :28:33.happening at the top? RADIO: Gap is looking good. We don't

:28:34. > :28:37.want it to increase. We will reduce it in ten laps time. So looking

:28:38. > :28:40.after the tyres. So it is still about tyre management. Even though

:28:41. > :28:44.they are much more conservative than last year That is a difficult one to

:28:45. > :28:49.try and understand. Rosberg faster last lap round. We don't know

:28:50. > :28:55.whether Hamilton has to pass any traffic, but in pure performance

:28:56. > :29:00.terms, than Nico should be slower than Lewis, between the off set and

:29:01. > :29:03.performance between the tyres. A bit of traffic they are dealing with.

:29:04. > :29:08.Bianchi is between them. Hamilton has got past him. This is Sebastian

:29:09. > :29:12.Vettel, chasing down Felipe Massa. This is for eighth place as Vettel

:29:13. > :29:18.continues to work his way through the field, having started in 15th

:29:19. > :29:22.place remember. Mammoth started on pole position and has led the whole

:29:23. > :29:27.race so far but Rosberg is not giving up. Ricciardo is in third,

:29:28. > :29:31.ahead of Valtteri Bottas but Williams and Red Bull could be on

:29:32. > :29:36.different strategies. Raikkonen is fifth. Grosjean dropped to seventh.

:29:37. > :29:41.Seems to be struggling for straight line speed. Massa is eighth then

:29:42. > :29:45.Vettel ninth. Hulkenberg is ten. Perez is 11th. Jenson Button in 12th

:29:46. > :29:50.place, can't see seem to make any progress, Jenson Button, he is three

:29:51. > :30:00.seconds behind the Force Indias at the back of this Impressive from

:30:01. > :30:04.Perez, he has been less than a second behind consistently, and once

:30:05. > :30:09.you get into that window, you are running in the deadly air, so

:30:10. > :30:20.impressive stuff. I have got too much oversteer! Lewis, I suggest

:30:21. > :30:25.closing diff exit to four or five. Differential controls? Indeed, you

:30:26. > :30:28.can affect changes from inside the cockpit which will change the

:30:29. > :30:33.balance if you lock up the diff on entry, and it can make the car more

:30:34. > :30:40.stable but generate understeer through the apex. But that is very

:30:41. > :30:42.interesting, so, well, what I thought would be a fairly

:30:43. > :30:48.straightforward case of Hamilton opening up the gap to Rosberg, we

:30:49. > :30:54.have a race on! We do seem to, which is great news. Tom. I could not

:30:55. > :30:58.agree with you more, guys! Or four of the drivers currently on the hard

:30:59. > :31:01.tyre are setting laps quicker than the guys on the medium tyres in

:31:02. > :31:05.front of them, and then they will be on the quicker, theoretically the

:31:06. > :31:10.quicker of the tyres when the car is at its latest in the final stint. As

:31:11. > :31:17.you say, we have got a race on our hands. It is quite possible that the

:31:18. > :31:20.hard tyre is proving better. My rear end is everywhere. Hamilton saying

:31:21. > :31:24.his rear end is everywhere, obviously not happy with that

:31:25. > :31:27.happening on the car! If the hard tyre becomes the better race tyre,

:31:28. > :31:31.they all expected it to be the medium tyre, things could change. We

:31:32. > :31:36.had overnight rain, and now or other is going down, the track just

:31:37. > :31:39.change. If he thinks he has problems, his rear end everywhere,

:31:40. > :31:45.he is still the fastest man on the racetrack! Imagine how it must feel

:31:46. > :31:49.in some of the other cars. Interesting stuff, can you imagine

:31:50. > :31:52.the respective engineers in the Mercedes team passing that

:31:53. > :31:56.information between their drivers, trying to decide how much

:31:57. > :32:01.information to give? Red Bull out in the pit lane again. That is probably

:32:02. > :32:06.going to be for Vettel, we will have to see. Massa is into the pits. It

:32:07. > :32:11.looks like he went past, they were getting ready to serve as one of the

:32:12. > :32:16.cars, but Vettel, if it was indeed him, running behind Grosjean,

:32:17. > :32:20.decided to go for another lap. Unless they tricked Williams into

:32:21. > :32:23.doing that. That is something the teams have been known to do, you

:32:24. > :32:27.will not get away with it more than once, I would suggest. It is

:32:28. > :32:31.something that has been done in the past, and in the interests of safety

:32:32. > :32:36.you are not allowed to keep your guys out there looking like he will

:32:37. > :32:40.pit at any time. It looks like Massa is on a three-stop, but his

:32:41. > :32:47.team-mates may be on a two-stop. We will wait to see, when he rejoins,

:32:48. > :32:51.what kind of stint lengthy can do. Just under half distance in the

:32:52. > :32:55.Spanish Grand Prix, the battle is between the two Mercedes team-mate

:32:56. > :32:58.of Hamilton and Rosberg, Hamilton is 4.3 seconds ahead, and despite

:32:59. > :33:02.complaints about handling, over the last couple of laps, he has gained a

:33:03. > :33:08.little bit more time over his team-mate. Then there is a big gap

:33:09. > :33:13.of 20 seconds to Daniel Ricciardo in third. Bottas, Williams, fourth

:33:14. > :33:21.place, 11 seconds behind. Raikkonen fifth, Alonso sixth, Vettel up to

:33:22. > :33:27.eighth. Hulkenberg is ninth, Perez is intent. Where to use sit on mind

:33:28. > :33:31.games, Ben? What are you thinking of particularly? Hamilton saying he's

:33:32. > :33:35.not happy with the rear, that will be shared with his team-mate, but he

:33:36. > :33:40.is pulling away at the sort of gap you would expect in the offset

:33:41. > :33:43.performance of the tyres now. Can you imagine, for Nico, you are

:33:44. > :33:47.hearing that Lewis is saying he is not happy with his tyres, but you

:33:48. > :33:51.can still see the gap increasing? Psychologically, you would be like,

:33:52. > :33:56.that doesn't seem right, it doesn't sound good. I wonder if that is what

:33:57. > :34:00.is going on, Tom, what are your thoughts? I think you are probably

:34:01. > :34:04.right, and we have seen it already this weekend. In the last practice

:34:05. > :34:07.session before qualifying, right at the end, Hamilton went out on the

:34:08. > :34:13.faster of the two tyres, did a qualifying similes and, blitzed the

:34:14. > :34:16.middle sector but did not complete the lap. I think he did not want

:34:17. > :34:23.Rosberg to get a chance to look at his data. They are both ultimate

:34:24. > :34:27.competitors, they want to get one over on the opposition, their rival

:34:28. > :34:34.in the team. Both similar lap times on this lap, Hamilton making a game.

:34:35. > :34:38.We heard Hamilton's engineer saying, you can take it easy for a few laps

:34:39. > :34:43.but then you will need to push. The gap has opened, and we will keep an

:34:44. > :34:47.eye on it. Rosberg, in second, has gained a bit in the first sector.

:34:48. > :34:52.Maybe it was just resting those tyres for a little while. OK, so we

:34:53. > :34:56.seem to think there is a possibility of mind games within the team. How

:34:57. > :35:00.about this for sitting on the fence? Perez has been asked by his team,

:35:01. > :35:05.are you more comfortable on the hard or medium? He said, I don't know!

:35:06. > :35:10.The team has said they will decide. The driver making no decision at

:35:11. > :35:15.all. He has been sitting behind Hulkenberg so much, following his

:35:16. > :35:18.wheel tracks, he is still 0.7 of a second behind Hulkenberg. Button

:35:19. > :35:24.outside the top ten, Kvyat 11, Magnus on the 13th. Felipe Massa has

:35:25. > :35:29.dropped to 14 but will move up the order once the others start to make

:35:30. > :35:34.their second pit stops. Maldonado was 15, despite that incident

:35:35. > :35:40.earlier and having served a penalty. -- Maldonado is 15. Chilton is ahead

:35:41. > :35:46.of Bianchi at the moment by 2.2 seconds. The one retirement that we

:35:47. > :35:49.have seen in this race, Jean-Eric Vergne, who went out a little while

:35:50. > :35:55.ago with an exhaust breakage of some kind. So everyone else still

:35:56. > :35:59.running, but up front, although the gap is 4.4 seconds, again, very

:36:00. > :36:03.similar lap times between both drivers on these different tyres on

:36:04. > :36:08.that last lap. Interestingly, Hamilton's engineer has told him

:36:09. > :36:13.that rear tyre to bridges are cool, and they are not sure whether he is

:36:14. > :36:17.over protecting them. -- tyre temperatures. Lewis has said, I have

:36:18. > :36:21.got oversteer, I am not going to open the diff and give myself more.

:36:22. > :36:26.So clear instruction from the race driver. As you say, when we are

:36:27. > :36:30.watching the Mercedes, you do not see it squirming around in the same

:36:31. > :36:34.way that we saw the Ferrari or even the Red Bull. So it is very subtle.

:36:35. > :36:38.He might be complaining about a lack of grip from the back end of the

:36:39. > :36:45.car, but the way he is driving it, we can't really see it. He looks

:36:46. > :36:50.like he is well within himself, gap of 4.4 seconds between the two cars.

:36:51. > :36:57.Well, Rosberg just taking a couple of tenths out of Lewis in the middle

:36:58. > :37:02.sector. On board here with Daniel Ricciardo, fairly lonely in third.

:37:03. > :37:06.You can hear him lift and coast into the corners, as he exit nine. We

:37:07. > :37:14.will listen to him into turn ten, and what you will get, he will get

:37:15. > :37:19.an audio beep in his years to tell him when to lift off the throttle

:37:20. > :37:22.for best recovery and fuel saving. And at the pointy thinks the corner

:37:23. > :37:27.is coming up too quick, he will hit the brakes. That is a strategy all

:37:28. > :37:33.the drivers have to employ in this new formula, going back to the past

:37:34. > :37:37.last year, and much further into the past, you effectively brake at the

:37:38. > :37:41.point you thought, if I don't do it now, I won't make the corner. So a

:37:42. > :37:46.different driving style, to have that feedback as to when to lift out

:37:47. > :37:52.of it. Throttle on full at the moment, is there a gap between

:37:53. > :37:56.throttle on full? Just a fractional gap. It all depends when they start

:37:57. > :38:03.out knowledge in the brake pressure. When you lift off the throttle, you

:38:04. > :38:06.pull well over 1 G from the physical deceleration, which is considerably

:38:07. > :38:11.more than in your most exotic sports car would ever generate on road car

:38:12. > :38:16.tyres. It will be interesting to find out, actually, whether that G

:38:17. > :38:21.meter telling him he is on the brake, whether it is linked to brake

:38:22. > :38:27.pressure or physical deceleration of the car. Nico Rosberg has just set a

:38:28. > :38:32.fastest lap, 1:30.7. He has been told, we want to close the gap to

:38:33. > :38:36.Hamilton to two seconds in the next 11 laps, so that means it looks as

:38:37. > :38:40.though the Hamilton will be on a two-stop strategy. This middle

:38:41. > :38:44.section of the race is going to be absolutely crucial to that.

:38:45. > :38:50.Hamilton, of course, now trying to respond. This is Valtteri bodice, he

:38:51. > :38:54.sits in fourth position currently, chased by Kimi Raikkonen. --

:38:55. > :38:59.Valtteri Bottas. Just keeping up with the entertainment, the Force

:39:00. > :39:02.India drivers are giving their race engineers, we have just heard

:39:03. > :39:07.Hulkenberg was asked, how is the balance? He said, oversteer,

:39:08. > :39:11.understeer, everything! I think we are seeing that with some of the

:39:12. > :39:26.cars down the field. Looking at you will used so far... -- you will.

:39:27. > :39:35.TRANSLATION: Fronts are still pretty good, left rear is the one to watch

:39:36. > :39:40.out for. Ricciardo fairly happy on fuel and tyres by the sounds of

:39:41. > :39:44.things. Tom is with Pirelli motorsport boss Paul-Henri. A

:39:45. > :39:47.fascinating tactical battle, particularly between the two

:39:48. > :39:53.Mercedes drivers, are you surprised by the pace of the hard tyre? Yes

:39:54. > :39:59.and no. We have seen the temperatures, information from the

:40:00. > :40:03.teams, it is well up to 130, so the medium is overheating and both tyres

:40:04. > :40:06.are sliding. The medium tyre is overheating on the surface, which

:40:07. > :40:14.means the problems we heard on the radio with Lewis. Still a two-stop

:40:15. > :40:17.race? We believe so, no reason why it shouldn't be. It is looking

:40:18. > :40:23.fascinating at the moment, but the end of the race, when temperatures

:40:24. > :40:27.drop, might bring more surprises. Cars lighter, more rubber on the

:40:28. > :40:31.track, will be medium tyre be the one to be on in the final stint?

:40:32. > :40:34.It's depends how long that stint is, and that will be interesting for

:40:35. > :40:40.Rosberg, how far will the go with the hard tyres? Thank you. As you

:40:41. > :40:44.were speaking, Vettel made his pit stop and has gone on to the mediums.

:40:45. > :40:48.You would think it is very much a three-stop race for him, as some of

:40:49. > :40:52.the other teams are reckoning he is doing. They did a very long stint

:40:53. > :40:57.with Ricciardo on Friday, I think they will see how far they can go on

:40:58. > :41:01.this set of tyres. He has already run the hard tyre, so why not see

:41:02. > :41:05.how far you can go? If you have to make a third stop, you react. He is

:41:06. > :41:11.saying the fronts are good, it is just the left rear to watch out for.

:41:12. > :41:17.One thing I wanted to come back on, Rosberg has used two kilograms more

:41:18. > :41:23.fuel than his team-mate. They have 1.5 available for each of the laps,

:41:24. > :41:27.a whole lap extra he has used? That is going to give him some

:41:28. > :41:31.performance. Is that why he's been able to offset some of the deficit

:41:32. > :41:37.that should be there between the tyres? Is it just purely to do with

:41:38. > :41:40.track temperature today? The gap between Hamilton and Rosberg at the

:41:41. > :41:46.moment is 4.3 seconds. Rosberg has been told to bring it down to within

:41:47. > :41:49.two seconds prior to the stop. Grosjean has just emerged from the

:41:50. > :41:53.pits once again, he has made his second pit stop, so it may well be a

:41:54. > :41:59.third stop required, and that was the Caterham of Kobayashi going off

:42:00. > :42:06.at turn one. I lost the brakes, I lost the brakes! Scary stuff, we saw

:42:07. > :42:08.that from his team-mate, it wasn't actually his team-mate, but we saw

:42:09. > :42:12.another driver earlier this week when they had a brake problem going

:42:13. > :42:16.into that corner. Nothing more scary. Kobayashi is still running,

:42:17. > :42:21.though, he has backed off in the middle sector. Maybe he will be

:42:22. > :42:25.coming in. It will certainly get his attention at 200 mph as he barrels

:42:26. > :42:31.into turn one! Massa are still the fastest on the speed trap down

:42:32. > :42:37.there, that first corner. Just about 210 mph, some 4 km/h faster than

:42:38. > :42:41.anyone else. Button is up in the speed traps, but Kvyat and Vergne

:42:42. > :42:44.have both been showing high top speed with their Renault powered

:42:45. > :42:49.Toro Rosso, but clearly they don't run as much downforce as some of the

:42:50. > :42:56.others. Ferrari are in, Fernando Alonso on lap 36 of 66. Kobayashi is

:42:57. > :43:02.in the pits, just in front of Fernando Alonso. He comes into his

:43:03. > :43:07.pit lane. It could well be over for Kobayashi, but Alonso on his way

:43:08. > :43:14.after a good 2.6 second stop. So where is he in relation...? Just in

:43:15. > :43:18.front of Massa and turn one. He has been trying to get the Ferraris all

:43:19. > :43:24.day long, is this an opportunity? I don't think it is going to be quite

:43:25. > :43:28.enough. Alonso always one of the toughest to overtake. New fastest

:43:29. > :43:32.lap for Sebastian Vettel, interesting! He is on a fresh set of

:43:33. > :43:37.tyres, the medium compound, quicker than the Mercedes are going on that

:43:38. > :43:42.much more used tyres. Just how use, you can see by the way that Rosberg

:43:43. > :43:48.is locking that left front. This is him coming out of four, dropping

:43:49. > :43:52.down into five. Unusual to have an unloaded inside front there as the

:43:53. > :44:00.circuit got away from him. Desperately trying to close that gap

:44:01. > :44:05.to Hamilton, of course, but that has cost tenths. 3.7 is the gap, not

:44:06. > :44:09.good enough for Rosberg. He needs to get it close and he is running out

:44:10. > :44:13.of laps. The second stop will be coming up in about five or six laps,

:44:14. > :44:17.and he needs to close that gap a little bit more effectively. Vettel

:44:18. > :44:21.passed on track at the moment, Hamilton, Rosberg, Ricciardo,

:44:22. > :44:25.running well, looking at a potential podium finish. Alonso is tied up in

:44:26. > :44:42.traffic, tucked in behind Kevin Magnussen, a bit further down the

:44:43. > :44:47.road is Kvyat. He is wide through one. Will Magnussen come back at

:44:48. > :44:53.him? He got through twos and that covers it.

:44:54. > :44:56.You get so used to entering turn one with the normal drag when you a

:44:57. > :45:01.slipstream and the DRS, that is when you are seeing these big top speeds

:45:02. > :45:05.of well over 200mph. Hulkenberg has been in for his second stop, so has

:45:06. > :45:10.Jenson Button. Should be able to get to the end just about, from here.

:45:11. > :45:14.Vettel, there is a little move down the inside for Vettel. So Vettel

:45:15. > :45:20.gaining, a position, is he from Massa? Yes, so that is a good move

:45:21. > :45:23.for Vettel. He has been told we need maximum pace, so they are going for

:45:24. > :45:33.the three stops, he has not been told to look after the tyres to the

:45:34. > :45:36.end. 30.5 last lap round. It that is seven tenths quicker than the

:45:37. > :45:40.leading car of Hamilton. So taking everything out of the fresh tyre,

:45:41. > :45:45.you will see Alonso running deep through one, gets marginal through

:45:46. > :45:52.two, but Kevin Magnussen not able to do anything in response. This is

:45:53. > :46:00.Vettel getting past Felipe Massa. Making use of the fresh tyres. Sees

:46:01. > :46:04.the gap: Very nice indeed. He is not far behind Ferrari. A little lock up

:46:05. > :46:08.as he goes past Magnussen. Magnussen may get the chance, he is back

:46:09. > :46:14.alongside. Vettel goes round the outside. He won't have it like that.

:46:15. > :46:17.So that was a a replay of what just happened. Vettel dealing with

:46:18. > :46:22.Magnussen. Which Massa has not done yet. So Massa struggling a bit at

:46:23. > :46:26.this stint of the race. His team-mate Valtteri Bottas running in

:46:27. > :46:29.fourth position. Incident involving Ericsson and Raikkonen under

:46:30. > :46:32.investigation. So the problem there for Ericsson, if he wasn't letting

:46:33. > :46:42.Raikkonen through, he could be penalised as a result.

:46:43. > :46:48.Marcus Ericsson running in 19th place. Chilton 20th and Kobayashi

:46:49. > :46:51.out of the Grand Prix. Two retirements now, the Toro Rosso of

:46:52. > :46:56.Jean-Eric Vergne and the Caterham of Kamui Kobayashi.

:46:57. > :47:03.The Raikkonen strong e er of the two Ferrari, pulling away from Alonso.

:47:04. > :47:06.That gap quite considerable before the pit-stop of course. It will be

:47:07. > :47:10.interesting to see whether they come out and Raikkonen makes his second

:47:11. > :47:14.stop this afternoon. I can tell you that Rosberg is not getting that gap

:47:15. > :47:17.down any more. That was the move for Sebastian Vettel. You will see the

:47:18. > :47:23.McLaren come wheel-to-wheel with him, yes, on the, but he dealt with

:47:24. > :47:26.it effectively. Hamilton and Rosberg the gap not changing, they are

:47:27. > :47:34.lapping virtually the same. Even though they are on different tyres.

:47:35. > :47:38.Rosberg 3.8 seconds behind Hamilton he needs to be within two seconds

:47:39. > :47:43.and Hamilton dealing with traffic as well. Desperately important he

:47:44. > :47:49.doesn't lose time. RADIO: Zero to Nico at last lap.

:47:50. > :47:52.Where have you been for the last couple of laps? So sounds like he

:47:53. > :47:57.wasn't getting information for a little while, but now he is, and the

:47:58. > :48:01.gap as they cross 3.6 seconds, so whether Hamilton lost a bit of time

:48:02. > :48:06.passing Jenson Button, I don't know, but the gap down to 3. But still

:48:07. > :48:11.these two are absolutely flat out at the moment. Hamilton and Rosberg are

:48:12. > :48:17.driving as hard as they possibly can, as Rosberg tries to narrow that

:48:18. > :48:22.gap. 30 seconds down the road, that is how much dominance the Mercedes

:48:23. > :48:26.cars and drivers are showing this afternoon. Alonso out on a new set

:48:27. > :48:30.of tyres, is going quickly in the first sector. Magnussen, you are

:48:31. > :48:35.watching here, as he is chased by Felipe Massa, this is for position.

:48:36. > :48:42.Magnussen has only made with one pit-stop so far, so going deep on a

:48:43. > :48:46.two stop strategy is Kevin Magnussen. That means he is having

:48:47. > :48:50.to handle a car that is lower in grip than the one behind. For the

:48:51. > :48:56.moment he is keeping Felipe Massa at bay.

:48:57. > :48:59.Looking at Alonso lighting up his best sector, showing us 19 seconds

:49:00. > :49:04.behind Raikkonen. At the round of stops he should be able to jump him.

:49:05. > :49:13.It is showing about 22 seconds total time loss, he has that gap down the

:49:14. > :49:17.17-and-a-half seconds so expect Raikkonen to pop o out. Crucially he

:49:18. > :49:22.may come out behind Vettel as well. There is only 2.1 seconds behind

:49:23. > :49:27.him. Massa makes the move on Kevin Magnussen, that moves him into

:49:28. > :49:31.eighth position. Interestingly, we heard Lewis saying to Peter boning

:49:32. > :49:36.to be on the, where have you been for the last couple of laps and he

:49:37. > :49:41.replies Justin Lee Collins letting you get through the traffic." So

:49:42. > :49:46.they were letting his concentrate on what he was doing then giving him

:49:47. > :49:48.the information about the gap to Rosberg, which is still 3.77

:49:49. > :49:59.seconds. So no worries at all on that one,

:50:00. > :50:03.and further down the order, let me tell you that Grosjean is behind

:50:04. > :50:10.this group now, so Grosjean will be next to catch that McLaren. Still

:50:11. > :50:16.some important points on offer for the Lotus of Romain Grosjean today.

:50:17. > :50:21.Interesting the different strategy between the two Ferraris. Raikkonen

:50:22. > :50:27.losing pace currently but staying out there. His team-mate Alonso

:50:28. > :50:32.having done two stops so far. That could end up swapping them round

:50:33. > :50:46.later. That is another one to keep an eye on. 1: 31.3.

:50:47. > :50:49.Rosberg has got past Daniil Kvyat. In Hamilton dealing with Jenson

:50:50. > :50:53.Button who had been in for his second pit-stop a moment ago. So

:50:54. > :50:58.once again he lapped him a while ago, now he had to do it all over

:50:59. > :51:04.again, with 42 laps completed out of the 41 laps completed. We are on to

:51:05. > :51:08.42 out of 66. Very much Mercedes in control. It looks as though Hamilton

:51:09. > :51:17.has enough in hand to stay in front of his team-mate, Rosberg, he is

:51:18. > :51:22.maintaining that gap. Hamilton as he comes out of turn three has a gaggle

:51:23. > :51:25.of cars ahead of him that he will be on the back of any time soon. The

:51:26. > :51:30.first of which is Perez, who is continuing to be less than a second

:51:31. > :51:35.behind Hulkenberg, his team-mate. One second exactly last time round,

:51:36. > :51:39.so that will play a part in the strategy, you don't want to be

:51:40. > :51:43.losing time. Even with Blue Flag, losing time in that traffic.

:51:44. > :51:47.Absolutely, Hamilton will be very keen to cut through that traffic.

:51:48. > :51:52.Amazing he is lapping up to 12th position. That is the margin of

:51:53. > :51:57.superiority. That might force their hand in when they make their second

:51:58. > :52:04.stop. You want to run as close as you can into the back of the car,

:52:05. > :52:09.once you start making passes, it will cost you time. Button having

:52:10. > :52:15.let Hamilton through able to run at much the same pace. Is it going to

:52:16. > :52:20.be Hamilton again we see in first? RADIO: Box, box, will come down

:52:21. > :52:24.three turns. Three turns on the front wing presumably which is a

:52:25. > :52:29.fairly major change to improve the balance of the car. So, this final

:52:30. > :52:35.pit-stop, let us see what happens for Lewis Hamilton when he comes in.

:52:36. > :52:40.He has not come in yet. That is interesting. So he, he obviously

:52:41. > :52:44.deciding to stay out longer. He didn't get the call. The guys had

:52:45. > :52:49.the tyres out of the blanket, now rushing them back in to get them

:52:50. > :52:52.back in the blankets. That miscommune care, you wouldn't want

:52:53. > :52:56.to, if they are genuinely tyres for the car, you would not want to be

:52:57. > :53:00.losing surface temperature from the blankets.

:53:01. > :53:05.No, so that is a surprise. Hamilton staying out. The mechanics are

:53:06. > :53:10.kneeling out in the pit lane. Given that Hamilton is at five, they are

:53:11. > :53:14.going to be out there for well over a minute.

:53:15. > :53:19.Bianchi comes in the pits but not one of the front runner, you wonder

:53:20. > :53:23.whether Hamilton feels he wants to open up that gap more. It is what

:53:24. > :53:28.the team were asking for, the tyres are back in their blankets but the

:53:29. > :53:34.crew sitting there ready and waiting. Does this affect Rosberg?

:53:35. > :53:40.Maybe he was due a pit-stop later, does it pull him back? Different

:53:41. > :53:45.strategies so it is more than likely to be for Hamilton. You wouldn't

:53:46. > :53:49.want to have your guy throughout for the entire lap and a bit they have

:53:50. > :53:53.been. The tyres have been brought out of the blanketserliy and in he

:53:54. > :54:01.goes. Rosberg has lost a bit of time in the middle sector. So for

:54:02. > :54:06.whatever reason he is losing tomb. Hamilton should be in tremendous

:54:07. > :54:11.shape to continue his winning form this season. There was a dit little

:54:12. > :54:18.delay on the first pit-stop. It is not the fastest we have soon from

:54:19. > :54:22.Mrs Di, but probably not enough to allow Rosberg the chance. 4.3, that

:54:23. > :54:28.was slow. Whether it is going to be enough. It will give Rosberg a

:54:29. > :54:31.fighting chance. From what I coiled see the front was fine on that

:54:32. > :54:35.pit-stop for Lewis Hamilton, the delay was somewhere at the rear, I

:54:36. > :54:44.couldn't see because people were blocking my view. Hence the four

:54:45. > :54:48.second stop. The total time lost has cost him foefr a couple of secs from

:54:49. > :54:54.his team-mate. Let us see how Rosberg gets on when he comes for

:54:55. > :54:58.his top stop. Losing time through graining, so the harder tyres seem

:54:59. > :55:05.to have done enough from Rosberg's point of view, he has done some 22

:55:06. > :55:11.laps on this set of fires. I don't know if we can see anything from the

:55:12. > :55:17.thermal imaging camera. Is he losing heat in the surface of the tyre?

:55:18. > :55:28.That is still spreading. Into the pits has come Kimi Raikkonen. Along

:55:29. > :55:32.sew. -- Alonso. It has turned nasty for Raikkonen through that stint.

:55:33. > :55:36.Just to see the emotion in the conversation, Hamilton got back on

:55:37. > :55:40.the radio to his engineer saying why you saying three turns down on the

:55:41. > :55:47.African National Congress wing? I I don't think why you are doing three,

:55:48. > :55:54.just do the normal two. A clear message. Still riding with Rosberg.

:55:55. > :56:00.A good lap last time round because Hamilton is on the, on the harder

:56:01. > :56:04.tyre himself, and we are so what pace Hamilton can do. Rosberg will

:56:05. > :56:09.be switch toing the softer tyre, meanwhile, this Raikkonen's stop by

:56:10. > :56:12.the way has put him behind Vettel as well.

:56:13. > :56:16.We expect Vettel to have to make another pit-stop. There is no doubt

:56:17. > :56:23.the two Ferraris have swapped round, as a result of that last stint.

:56:24. > :56:26.Alonso has taken advantage of it. He is running in fifth position. To

:56:27. > :56:31.explain on the turn, it is not something that is the same for every

:56:32. > :56:37.team, it depends on the configuration of how much a turn

:56:38. > :56:42.moves the flap. In terms of a racing car you can trying to balance them

:56:43. > :56:52.in the same way as you balance a set of scales. It is like adding load or

:56:53. > :56:57.taking load off. Seen the Mercedes team coming out for Rosberg's stop.

:56:58. > :57:08.This is interesting. Romain Grosjean on the back of Felipe Massa. We saw

:57:09. > :57:14.Grosjean seem to be struggling. RADIO: Too slow. Peace was good at

:57:15. > :57:19.the end of that stint Why did you bring me in? We are keeping you on

:57:20. > :57:25.the optimum strategy Lewis. Optimum strategy. So Rosberg makes his

:57:26. > :57:30.pit-stop. Where is Hamilton, he is half way down the main strait and

:57:31. > :57:35.Rosberg will come out behind him he have to hope the softer tyre gives

:57:36. > :57:39.him advantage. It is not likely. Adrian Sutil is going to get in

:57:40. > :57:47.front of him. He has traffic to deal with as well. This is going to be a

:57:48. > :57:52.tall order. Another stop is Ricciardo. So he is lucky to get

:57:53. > :57:57.that third place, remember, but making this stop and on his way once

:57:58. > :58:02.more. Very quick stop. Bottas stopping at the same time. 2.4

:58:03. > :58:07.seconds. Valtteri Bottas unable to go do the end of the race on his

:58:08. > :58:14.tiers, so that kind of odd order, third and fourth is what we are

:58:15. > :58:21.looking at for Ricciardo and pots at the in fact.

:58:22. > :58:25.That seemed very past. It wasn't as quickches 2.3 seconds is the total

:58:26. > :58:29.time lost that Hamilton has had over Rosberg this afternoon, so you can

:58:30. > :58:33.see how important that team work is during the pit-stops, it will be

:58:34. > :58:37.interesting to dial down after the Grand Prix and understand where that

:58:38. > :58:42.time loss is. You can clearly see if the gap between them was less than

:58:43. > :58:50.that, then that would have given Rosberg the advantage. Massa in

:58:51. > :58:55.eighth. Chased by the two Force Indias who are still tied together

:58:56. > :59:00.by a piece of elastic that has not got much longer than 1.3 seconds

:59:01. > :59:05.throughout this race. We are onboard with Grosjean. It is

:59:06. > :59:12.in the twisty sections he will have to try and take advantage. Radio a

:59:13. > :59:17.Nico lost more with traffic. Let us not worry about it. Your have 21

:59:18. > :59:22.laps remaining of the prime tyre. Nico on the option. It's a need to

:59:23. > :59:25.know basis. That was a great engineer. They are like

:59:26. > :59:35.psychologists dealing with the motion of the driver. He didn't

:59:36. > :59:39.answer the question. Why have been worried about the time lost? He is

:59:40. > :59:44.leading the Grand Prix and just needs to manage to the end. Grosjean

:59:45. > :59:49.all over the Williams, but he cannot find the spacey needs, and on the

:59:50. > :59:52.straight the Mercedes power in the Williams just has enough to drag it

:59:53. > :59:58.along in front of the Lotus, despite the DRS effect. This is a chance for

:59:59. > :00:03.Romain Grosjean now, of course. He has made two stops already, and

:00:04. > :00:09.Williams, on a three-stop strategy, I wonder if Lotus can go all the way

:00:10. > :00:14.to the end? Grosjean has done 13 laps in this stint so far, still

:00:15. > :00:19.quite a long way to go, but he is on the harder compound. Massa will be

:00:20. > :00:23.the one fighting to make his way back up the order. Hamilton is the

:00:24. > :00:28.race leader. His pit stops are completed, Mercedes happy with a

:00:29. > :00:31.two-stop strategy for both cars, splitting the strategy with one on

:00:32. > :00:36.the hard tyre in the middle part, Hamilton now on the hard tyre in the

:00:37. > :00:41.latter part of the race, and in terms of performance very little to

:00:42. > :00:46.choose between them. Last laps, Rosberg was 0.2 faster than

:00:47. > :00:50.Hamilton, but the gap is 4.6. Rosberg is going to need some

:00:51. > :00:52.absolutely stupendous laps in the remaining part of this race to catch

:00:53. > :00:58.his team-mate. Interesting battles going on, Vettel in fifth, if he can

:00:59. > :01:01.make it to the end of the Grand Prix, he will be relatively happy

:01:02. > :01:08.with pace. He seems to be running quite quickly by comparison to the

:01:09. > :01:14.leader. Ricciardo has just done 30.1, so, well... He has taken more

:01:15. > :01:19.out of the tyres, will they need to stop again? I think Vettel may have

:01:20. > :01:24.to make another stop. He stopped on lap 33, and although Red Bull did a

:01:25. > :01:28.very long stint on Friday, they way they were telling us he was going to

:01:29. > :01:33.have to push, they may be still heading for a three-stop. Let's wait

:01:34. > :01:37.and find out, he's currently in fifth place, but it is close behind

:01:38. > :01:42.him. When he loses 24 seconds, it will drop him down amongst these

:01:43. > :01:48.guys, Hulkenberg, Perez sort of group, and that will give him some

:01:49. > :01:53.work to do. Hamilton still better with fewer use than anybody else. --

:01:54. > :02:09.fuel. Vettel has used... It is an

:02:10. > :02:15.indicator that Perez has used less than Hulkenberg, since he is the one

:02:16. > :02:18.following him. Well, Hamilton doing everything right here, but you know,

:02:19. > :02:22.he has been in situations here in Spain, never won this Grand Prix. He

:02:23. > :02:26.has had a few second places, and he was heading for one when he had a

:02:27. > :02:31.wheel failure, so he knows that things can go wrong, as all drivers

:02:32. > :02:36.do, right into the closing stages of any Grand Prix. He won't be settling

:02:37. > :02:43.for anything just yet. The pace is still... Good lap by Rosberg, the

:02:44. > :02:48.last lap, compared to Hamilton. Yes, 30.1, both of them. Alonso starting

:02:49. > :02:52.to match the pace of Ricciardo as well, a gap of seven seconds between

:02:53. > :02:57.them. Unlikely he will be able to put him under too much pressure. The

:02:58. > :03:03.gap coming down a little bit now, 3.3 seconds is the gap, 3.5, I

:03:04. > :03:07.should say, between Hamilton and Rosberg on that section of the

:03:08. > :03:10.circuit. Maybe Hamilton trying to just bring these harder tyres in

:03:11. > :03:14.nice and smoothly so that he does not take too much out of them. It

:03:15. > :03:22.can be that if you go on them too hard in the early part of a stint,

:03:23. > :03:27.then you can get into trouble later. He is losing under braking at turn

:03:28. > :03:34.ten, David, he has been told. That is the secondary DRS zone. Take it

:03:35. > :03:40.nice and cautious there, we saw in qualifying that his car had some

:03:41. > :03:45.oversteer on turn-in relative to Nico's. Almost identical lap times

:03:46. > :03:48.between the two, but Rosberg has got some traffic to deal with. That is

:03:49. > :03:52.Felipe Massa ahead of him in the Williams. He could do with getting

:03:53. > :03:57.passed in quickly, Massa has seen the blue flag, great response,

:03:58. > :04:00.backed right of in turn three, Rosberg is immediately through.

:04:01. > :04:07.Fastest lap of the race for Lewis Hamilton last time around, 0.04

:04:08. > :04:14.quicker than Rosberg. Although Hamilton has had the rub of the

:04:15. > :04:18.green, to use Tom's expression, Rosberg has had more fastest laps,

:04:19. > :04:22.but it is all about points - that is what matters, and Hamilton is

:04:23. > :04:24.heading for the maximum 25 today and in good shape to take the

:04:25. > :04:29.championship lead. Tom. Well, you know you were saying that Lewis

:04:30. > :04:32.Hamilton has been using less fuel than the go, I might have an

:04:33. > :04:37.explanation, because I'm looking at the pit board that have been put

:04:38. > :04:46.out. Lewis's says he has 70 laps to go to the end of the race, Nico says

:04:47. > :04:50.16! -- 17. That is a bit of a worry, if they are confused about how much

:04:51. > :04:55.further there is to go! On the graphic, Appleton is so well in the

:04:56. > :05:01.green, for race distance, the first column, and the lap. -- Hamilton. He

:05:02. > :05:05.has conserved fuel hugely, whereas Rosberg, having not used to much, he

:05:06. > :05:09.is in the green zones, not overusing it, but Hamilton has been able to

:05:10. > :05:17.run at this kind of pace without using that fuel. If you are giving

:05:18. > :05:22.one of them a conservationist award, it would be Hamilton. At the last

:05:23. > :05:28.race, he used three kilograms less. Only 100 is allowed for the Grand

:05:29. > :05:34.Prix, but Rosberg's attempt to match the pace of Hamilton, he is on a

:05:35. > :05:39.roll, but he is having to do more of an overlap. A bit of a game for

:05:40. > :05:44.Rosberg, new fastest lap, 0.6 gained by Rosberg on that last lap. Lewis

:05:45. > :05:49.being told that Nico was faster in turns one, two and three, but Lewis

:05:50. > :05:54.himself is faster in the final sector. Interesting, because now

:05:55. > :06:00.they have swapped on tyres, Nico is on the faster tyre, and the offset

:06:01. > :06:03.should be around that 0.6 that we have been seen. This is all about

:06:04. > :06:08.trying to get through the traffic. A bit of traffic ahead of Hamilton,

:06:09. > :06:12.three tenths out of the middle sector Rosberg, purple, fastest of

:06:13. > :06:16.the Grand Prix so far. A little lock-up for Magnussen as he tries to

:06:17. > :06:23.get past Kvyat for 12th place between the two rupees of the

:06:24. > :06:28.season. -- rupees. It is fun to see them going racing had in Barcelona.

:06:29. > :06:34.Magnussen has got DRS, Kvyat defence to the inside, it will be a battle

:06:35. > :06:38.on the brakes. Sweeping around goes Kevin Magnussen, making it look very

:06:39. > :06:42.straightforward. It does not look, unless it has a problem in front of

:06:43. > :06:49.him, that they will score points today. Another 0.8 gain more Rosberg

:06:50. > :06:53.on that lap, down to 2.3 seconds. Rosberg has not given up the chase

:06:54. > :07:00.here. At this rate, he will be on the back of Hamilton and, well, we

:07:01. > :07:04.are going to find out... Will we see another Bahrain, then? That would be

:07:05. > :07:10.fun. Safety car now would be handy as well! On board with Sergio Perez,

:07:11. > :07:17.this is on team-mate Nico Hulkenberg, did he complete the

:07:18. > :07:21.manoeuvre? He has indeed gone into ninth position, Hulkenberg back in

:07:22. > :07:26.ten. Little to choose between them, but a big boost to your Perez in

:07:27. > :07:30.terms of confidence. He has looked the quicker of Force India all

:07:31. > :07:34.afternoon, pressure on Hulkenberg, the great move around the outside.

:07:35. > :07:39.Hamilton cutting through the traffic, but not much difference on

:07:40. > :07:43.the lap this time. Hamilton has held a zone in the middle sector, but

:07:44. > :07:48.there is Rosberg, that much closer now. He is also dealing with

:07:49. > :07:52.traffic, Daniil Kvyat, he has to get past in quickly. Kvyat should move

:07:53. > :07:58.out of the way on the main straight. That will be a massive

:07:59. > :08:02.tow, and with the benefit of DRS as well. Hamilton does not have the

:08:03. > :08:08.benefit of DRS, so this will give him even more lap time. Only 0.3 on

:08:09. > :08:12.the last lap, but this has really launched his lap. In qualifying,

:08:13. > :08:17.Hamilton gained an immediate advantage in turn one, and Rosberg

:08:18. > :08:23.has it now as he chases him down. Hamilton has got Magnussen up front.

:08:24. > :08:26.14 laps to go, Rosberg is closing relentlessly, but will it be enough

:08:27. > :08:30.to chase down Lewis Hamilton for victory here in Spain? He is going

:08:31. > :08:35.to throw everything at it, you just know he is. Having been beaten in

:08:36. > :08:41.the last four Grands Prix by Lewis Hamilton, or the last three, the

:08:42. > :08:45.winner in Australia, Nico Rosberg, that win seems a while ago, whereas

:08:46. > :08:50.Lewis Hamilton has been on such a great run. He knows he's coming up

:08:51. > :08:54.to the DRS zone, was he too far back in ten? Magnussen will pull over. He

:08:55. > :08:58.will not get in the way of that particular battle. He releases

:08:59. > :09:03.Hamilton, expect him to do something similar for Rosberg. Make sure you

:09:04. > :09:08.look after the tyres to be able to fight Lewis at the end of the race.

:09:09. > :09:12.Right! He is juggling in there, trying to close the gap but still

:09:13. > :09:18.look after the tyres. That won in the pits, good stock, 2.5 seconds,

:09:19. > :09:23.where does he come out? -- Vettel in the pits, good stop. He has made

:09:24. > :09:27.ground from 15 at the start. His team-mate, Ricciardo, is still

:09:28. > :09:33.running in third position. The has got the chance to go chasing after

:09:34. > :09:37.Raikkonen, he has just gone through. He will have fresh tyres. That will

:09:38. > :09:42.give Vettel and opportunity. Rosberg has not managed to get on the back

:09:43. > :09:48.of Magnussen before turn one, so he will have to run with him through

:09:49. > :09:53.three. He will get Magnussen pulling out of the way into turn four.

:09:54. > :09:59.Hamilton was quicker on that lap by 0.8. There was perhaps a mistake

:10:00. > :10:02.somewhere from Rosberg. Or was he just listening to the engineer,

:10:03. > :10:09.backing out of it to save the tyres for later? There is not much later

:10:10. > :10:12.to go! We have got 13 laps to go, and Rosberg will need every ounce of

:10:13. > :10:18.energy he can get out of those Pirelli tyres as Ferrari get ready

:10:19. > :10:22.for a stop. Alonso is back in. Fernando Alonso is back in, so a

:10:23. > :10:25.third pit stop for the Ferrari. I wonder if Raikkonen is going to be

:10:26. > :10:29.able to go through to the end and go back onto the medium compound.

:10:30. > :10:33.Raikkonen is coming out of the last corner now, this will be pretty

:10:34. > :10:37.close between the two. I think Raikkonen will get the jump on him.

:10:38. > :10:41.He is indeed. That will put Raikkonen in front of his team-mate,

:10:42. > :10:48.but his team-mate will have the fresher tyre. It will be net and

:10:49. > :10:52.tuck with the Red Bull of Vettel. Alonso on the inside of Vettel, who

:10:53. > :10:55.sweeps through, both on good tyres, because Vettel has just been into

:10:56. > :11:03.the pits. Both these guys will now be tragic the cars ahead. -- trying

:11:04. > :11:07.to chase. Kimi Raikkonen, their main target, looks like he will be trying

:11:08. > :11:11.to get to the end of the race and it could be hard for him to stay in

:11:12. > :11:14.front of both the Red Bull and his team-mate here. Traffic in between

:11:15. > :11:20.that they will have to watch out for, Jules Bianchi still leading the

:11:21. > :11:25.Marussia-Caterham battle, with Chilton second, Ericsson in third,

:11:26. > :11:28.and then of course Kobayashi a retirement, Jean-Eric Vergne as well

:11:29. > :11:33.a little while ago. 20 cars are still running in this race, Kvyat

:11:34. > :11:37.into the pits. Magnussen is currently in 12th, Button is a

:11:38. > :11:43.11th, just outside the points. The Force Indias hanging onto points

:11:44. > :11:47.paying positions, as Vettel deals with the traffic and watches out for

:11:48. > :11:51.Alonso behind. That was Bianchi getting well out of the way in the

:11:52. > :11:55.braking zone, Vettel was five seconds behind Raikkonen last time

:11:56. > :11:59.around, running one second quicker in the middle part of this lap. You

:12:00. > :12:04.can just see Raikkonen ahead, taking chunks of time out of him. Lewis

:12:05. > :12:08.reporting on the radio that he is getting some graining on his left

:12:09. > :12:12.front tyre, but his lap time is holding up pretty well versus

:12:13. > :12:16.Rosberg, virtually identical. Vettel is going faster than anyone, new

:12:17. > :12:23.fastest lap. It will give him more confidence. Tom. When these long

:12:24. > :12:26.right-hander really take it out of the tyres, we have just heard Lewis

:12:27. > :12:31.Hamilton complaining about his front left, and I have just seen the front

:12:32. > :12:35.left tyre that came Fernando Alonso's car, the harder tyre. It

:12:36. > :12:38.had a whole chunk of Robert missing from it, so it really is taking it

:12:39. > :12:45.out of the tyres much more than we were predicting. -- rubber. Vettel

:12:46. > :12:50.was making the most of his fresh set of tyres with very quick laps now,

:12:51. > :12:55.1:28.9. Team principal Christian Horner joins us from the pit wall,

:12:56. > :13:00.tell us the story of the race. For Ricciardo, pretty simple to reclaim

:13:01. > :13:04.third place from Bottas. Vettel is the one you have been playing

:13:05. > :13:11.interesting strategy with. Yeah, both guys are doing a great job. The

:13:12. > :13:15.teamwork and out-lap of Seb has been exceptional to get as ahead of

:13:16. > :13:19.Alonso, and now he is hunting down Kimi, who was on the harder tyre at

:13:20. > :13:25.this stage. Hopefully we will be able to have a crack at him. Is Seb

:13:26. > :13:28.happier with the car this weekend? I think so, he has had rotten luck

:13:29. > :13:30.through Friday and Saturday. He has had rotten luck through Friday and

:13:31. > :13:34.Saturday. He's in good shape, hunting him down. Daniel, a bit of a

:13:35. > :13:39.lonely race but delivering everything you ask of him. Doing the

:13:40. > :13:44.very best he can, a super job, so yeah, doing a great job for us.

:13:45. > :13:48.Thank you very much, Christian. Thanks. Hamilton still with the

:13:49. > :13:55.margin, Rosberg quick in the first sector. Left graining. Lewis, we are

:13:56. > :14:01.looking into it. What is the gap this time? It is still 2.1 seconds,

:14:02. > :14:04.but Rosberg faster on that lap by about half a second. Traffic is

:14:05. > :14:10.crucial as well as they head down into the first few corners. We ride

:14:11. > :14:14.back on board with Vettel, who was right behind Kimi Raikkonen. Off the

:14:15. > :14:18.track on the exit of four, he gets away with it. Two seconds per lap he

:14:19. > :14:21.has been taking out of Raikkonen, getting himself into a position

:14:22. > :14:28.coming out of nine at the top of the hill to try to pass down into ten.

:14:29. > :14:32.Alonso behind is dropping back, Raikkonen has a twist of oversteer

:14:33. > :14:43.through the apex. It looks like he is going to be too far back to take

:14:44. > :14:46.a dive, or will he? Meanwhile Hamilton, they will study the real

:14:47. > :14:55.time data sent back from these car, and that I will be trying to advice

:14:56. > :14:58.and how the loads, the aerodynamic loads...

:14:59. > :15:01.RADIO: Try and help the front. So they are giving him solution,

:15:02. > :15:07.Somerset up change, that he can affect from the steering wheel It

:15:08. > :15:14.sounds like brake balance minus 2. That will help the car on the entry

:15:15. > :15:20.to corners. This is how Vettel swept past Kimi Raikkonen. He has had an

:15:21. > :15:24.aggressive drive. He has had to make brave moves. You see the front wing

:15:25. > :15:29.damage on the Sauber. That is from contact I would suspect. Kimi saying

:15:30. > :15:34.he didn't waste time with Vettel. He is too quick, he is sensible. There

:15:35. > :15:39.was a bet of that... That is the broken wing that has decided to

:15:40. > :15:43.deposit itself conveniently well-off the racing line. Back onboard with

:15:44. > :15:48.Lewis Hamilton. The gap down to 1.8 seconds. So it is still reducing.

:15:49. > :15:55.Can we spot this problem he was talking about the graining? You can

:15:56. > :15:59.look at the tyre, and you see temperature change in the colour. It

:16:00. > :16:02.will reduce the graining as it runs through the left hand corner and the

:16:03. > :16:07.next time we will get a chance to spot where he is, as going up

:16:08. > :16:14.through turn nine. He put a lot of load into the front axle. They will

:16:15. > :16:19.tell him to take some brake balance to reduce the -- off to reduce

:16:20. > :16:24.pressure on the tyre. He was a fraction faster in the first sector.

:16:25. > :16:30.Let us see what it will be in the second sector. Psychologically the

:16:31. > :16:37.pressure is on the lead driver in these difficult brake zones.

:16:38. > :16:48.RADIO: Sebastian close the gap progressively. You need some tyres

:16:49. > :16:53.left by the time you reach Bottas. Vettel is on a real charge and the

:16:54. > :17:00.three stop strategy working well for him, but can Rosberg close this gap?

:17:01. > :17:05.#.4 seconds the gap. -- 1.4. Coming back on Vettel. . He has taken a 1.6

:17:06. > :17:09.second gap out of Bottas. So he will be on him before the end of this

:17:10. > :17:13.Grand Prix. Perez is in the next one they have to deal with, in terms of

:17:14. > :17:17.lapping, Hulkenberg has dropped a long way behind Perez now and is

:17:18. > :17:20.almost dropping into the clutches of Jenson Button, so, that might be

:17:21. > :17:27.something to watch for the final point. Hulkenberg in tenth, Button

:17:28. > :17:33.in 11th, then 12th for Magnussen. RADIO: Eight laps remaining. Think

:17:34. > :17:38.ability your overtaking strategy. Yes -- about. Yes it is all about

:17:39. > :17:42.how to get past. Hamilton has got past Perez and Rosberg Indonesia to

:17:43. > :17:46.deal with him rapidly. One thing he doesn't have is the element of

:17:47. > :17:52.surprise. He knows he is coming. He will have to use something else.

:17:53. > :17:55.Interestingly, with Raikkonen, we were hearing his engineer said don't

:17:56. > :18:00.waste time with Vettel, he is too fast. That is clearly they are

:18:01. > :18:04.looking at the battle. The interteam battle with Alonso who has the gap

:18:05. > :18:08.down, he is running a second a lap quicker than Raikkonen. Different

:18:09. > :18:15.strategies. Alonso on the fresher tyres. So coming up behind Grosjean,

:18:16. > :18:20.but look how much closer Rosberg is. Is he within the one second almost?

:18:21. > :18:25.Virtually. Not quite. As they cross that DRS line I am not sure he is

:18:26. > :18:34.within it. Hamilton would get the DRS if he was to the Lotus in front.

:18:35. > :18:38.Doesn't look like he got within the one second either. Not a great place

:18:39. > :18:45.for Rosberg to try and get past here, he will do it on the exit of

:18:46. > :18:48.turn three, he needsry centimetre. He gained another half second on

:18:49. > :18:52.Lewis Hamilton on that lap. And Rosberg has to compromise his line a

:18:53. > :18:58.bit There is so much more than about the win. This is so much about the

:18:59. > :19:02.confidence that either one drivers will take from this. This would be a

:19:03. > :19:09.real blow to Rosberg if he can't make it happen.

:19:10. > :19:14.RADIO: Only loss was mid exit turn three. Mid exit turn three.

:19:15. > :19:18.Still analysing, working it out, still playing with everything on the

:19:19. > :19:23.cards to make it happen. -- car. Six laps to go here, in

:19:24. > :19:29.Spain, and Lewis Hamilton, who has led from pole position has led every

:19:30. > :19:35.lap so far, is under pressure from his team-mate Fernando Alonso, now

:19:36. > :19:41.catching his team-mate and Alonso on a much better set of tyres.

:19:42. > :19:44.Raikkonen should be fairly secure in his position, ahead of Romain

:19:45. > :19:48.Grosjean. It is not what Ferrari want, David. They might be fighting

:19:49. > :19:53.between themselves and here is is a move perhaps not just yet for

:19:54. > :19:57.Alonso, but after all they are fighting for sixth place. It is not

:19:58. > :20:01.good enough It is not in overall performance terms, it should be

:20:02. > :20:07.child's play but Raikkonen, World Champion, he is going to struggle,

:20:08. > :20:10.the fact his tires are that much older, the Alonso should be able to

:20:11. > :20:14.get himself in a better position -- tyres. If not at this phase of the

:20:15. > :20:19.lap, certainly in the run down to turn ten. Battles between team-mates

:20:20. > :20:25.going on in this Grand Prix, the one between the two Ferraris is for

:20:26. > :20:28.sixth place but up front it is Hamilton versus Rosberg. Hamilton is

:20:29. > :20:34.protecting that position a bit. Got the gap to a fraction over a second.

:20:35. > :20:39.Enough to keep him out of that DRS range and Raikkonen on the older

:20:40. > :20:44.tyres desperate to stay in front of Fernando Alonso. Fernando Alonso

:20:45. > :20:47.will have to pick his moment. The last they want is for the two of

:20:48. > :20:53.them fly off the road. Isn't it good to see them racing eve other? We

:20:54. > :21:05.have been used to that for years. They had a safe pair of hands. I am

:21:06. > :21:11.not sure he will hold Alonso out for very much longer. Hamilton in front

:21:12. > :21:16.of Rosberg, by the way the gap hasn't changed significantly.

:21:17. > :21:20.Ferrari flags wave. The Spanish fans, their adored Fernando Alonso

:21:21. > :21:24.could gain a place in the closing stages of race. He has a jig but

:21:25. > :21:30.doesn't go for it. The last couple of years here it is Raikkonen who

:21:31. > :21:34.has been chasing Alonso but it has been the Lotus of Kimi Raikkonen

:21:35. > :21:42.that has been chasing the Ferrari of Alonso. This time it is Alonso

:21:43. > :21:47.trying to get past Kimi Raikkonen. Hamilton 1.2 seconds over Rosberg.

:21:48. > :21:53.The gap five laps to go and still Rosberg tantalisingly outside the

:21:54. > :21:57.DRS zone. The.10 separates him from the

:21:58. > :22:01.slipstream down each of the start finish straight and in between turn

:22:02. > :22:04.nine and ten. But as we can see whenever you in the DRS zone as

:22:05. > :22:08.Alonso is proving to us here, it is not that easy to overtake, even a

:22:09. > :22:14.car that is on tyres that much older than yours That is because you lose

:22:15. > :22:19.downforce, so you are loosing performance in the turn. The opening

:22:20. > :22:23.first sector, then you have Rosberg taking a tenth out of Hamilton,

:22:24. > :22:29.whereas in the middle sector it is exactly the same, so Hamilton is

:22:30. > :22:34.managing that as Alonso gets ever closer to his team-mate. Raikkonen

:22:35. > :22:39.did a great job considering the age of the tyres. Bottas is under attack

:22:40. > :22:47.from Vettel in the foreground. Vettel has caught Valtteri Bottas,

:22:48. > :22:51.Vettel is on fresher tyres than Valtteri Bottas who has done it on a

:22:52. > :22:58.two stop strategy. Alonso is not quite there. He will he make the

:22:59. > :23:04.late lung?est lunge. The gap 1.1 second between Hamilton and Rosberg.

:23:05. > :23:13.Rosberg throwing himself at the chase of the man who is in the lead.

:23:14. > :23:18.Vettel is chasing Valtteri Bottas. Bottas has never finished fourth in

:23:19. > :23:24.a Grand Prix as yet. His best this year fifth place in Australia. Can

:23:25. > :23:28.he fend off the four times wham? That would be a feather in his cap

:23:29. > :23:41.if he can. So Vettel lining up the back of the Williams. It is Mercedes

:23:42. > :23:44.power versus Williams power. Is pastian is enjoying this race more

:23:45. > :23:48.than any other this year, he is a long way down the road from his

:23:49. > :23:53.team-mate but he did start in 15th position on grid. Daniel Ricciardo

:23:54. > :23:58.was right up front in third place. So can he do it this time? Gets

:23:59. > :24:02.tucked in behind the Williams, this is going to be a huge opportunity. A

:24:03. > :24:07.bit of a slide there from Bottas through the last corner. Mercedes

:24:08. > :24:14.power in the Williams. Strong in a straight line. He can't get close

:24:15. > :24:23.enough. He can't. It is nip and tuck. Alonso is coming with

:24:24. > :24:29.overspeed. Raikkonen has to go defensive. He trying round the

:24:30. > :24:33.outside. Rosberg has gone to within nine tenths of Hamilton. He is in

:24:34. > :24:37.the DRS zone. He will look for the exit on turn three, this is a

:24:38. > :24:41.potential overtaking spot. On the approach to turn four, yes, he has

:24:42. > :24:45.done it, he has lined it beautifully. Down the inside.

:24:46. > :24:49.Fernando Alonso gets past his team-mate but Ferrari go racing,

:24:50. > :24:54.that is what we want to see and go the fans.

:24:55. > :25:00.So Rosberg, well, he has gained another two tenths on Hamilton. We

:25:01. > :25:02.are in the closing stages of the Spanish Grand Prix, and Lewis

:25:03. > :25:07.Hamilton can see his mirrors beginning to fill ever more with his

:25:08. > :25:11.team-mate Nico Rosberg. What a race this has been. Not yet the

:25:12. > :25:16.wheel-to-wheel confrontation of Bahrain but pressure the whole way

:25:17. > :25:23.through. It just seems that Rosberg has a momentum he didn't have in

:25:24. > :25:27.Bahrain. A bit of oversteer there, locks up. Rosberg is going to close

:25:28. > :25:32.up further. That is the pressure that Hamilton has been under,

:25:33. > :25:36.Rosberg has been tidier in in last sector. Is it enough? This is

:25:37. > :25:42.beautiful racing. And let us just see what Sebastian Vettel did to get

:25:43. > :25:46.past Valtteri Bottas, in the end fairly simple. He went for it down

:25:47. > :25:52.into turn ten, so the straight line speed of the Williams wasn't such an

:25:53. > :25:57.issue. That brings Vettel up into fourth place. Look at the two

:25:58. > :26:01.Mercedes. Two lap to go. The DRS in operation. Hamilton looking in his

:26:02. > :26:06.mirrors. Rosberg may only get one chance to do this, can he get past

:26:07. > :26:09.Lewis Hamilton, to take victory? Neither of them have ever won this

:26:10. > :26:15.Spanish Grand Prix. I am going to close my eye, bench

:26:16. > :26:20.talk me through it. Don't, you will miss out on something special. The

:26:21. > :26:25.revenge for Bahrain is what Nico Rosberg is looking for. He got

:26:26. > :26:30.beaten by Lewis Hamilton on the day it looks looked as though Rosberg

:26:31. > :26:35.that the pace. He wants to get him back. We have Rosberg on the option

:26:36. > :26:38.tyre, we have Hamilton leading on the prime tyre, which is not as

:26:39. > :26:43.quick and it is down to how they have managed them as they get into

:26:44. > :26:48.the last couple of laps. Wonderful stuff, and Mercedes of course

:26:49. > :26:52.allowing them to go Reyesing. They are going to lap Kimi Raikkonen in

:26:53. > :26:58.seventh position which is remarkable in itself Could he play a part in

:26:59. > :27:01.outcome. Will he play ball. Let us wait and see. A look up from

:27:02. > :27:05.Rosberg, so the pressure on both of them here as they try and extract

:27:06. > :27:11.every thousand of a second. You are onboard with Rosberg. Watching the

:27:12. > :27:18.back of Hamilton's car. Up ahead is the Ferrari of Kimi Raikkonen. Radio

:27:19. > :27:23.more feedback please. Looks like Hamilton is too far back to get the

:27:24. > :27:27.DRS from Raikkonen. Hamilton focussed on the final lap and

:27:28. > :27:31.Rosberg has he got a chance? This is great for Hamilton. He gets the toe,

:27:32. > :27:35.Raikkonen gets past, good driving from Raikkonen. Really allowing them

:27:36. > :27:39.both past That caught Hamilton by surprise. Raikkonen has lifted well

:27:40. > :27:44.out of the power, and there was no need to sort of jink out of that

:27:45. > :27:48.slipstream so much, but Hamilton will have all eyes on the road

:27:49. > :27:53.ahead, but you have this peripheral vision of the change of colour in

:27:54. > :27:57.your mirror, you know when there is another car hunting you down, he

:27:58. > :28:01.will have a glancing before all the key areas, turn five, concentrate on

:28:02. > :28:04.your exit. He won't feel any concern. He will be breathing

:28:05. > :28:11.through seven. He knows he concern. He will be breathing

:28:12. > :28:15.get a great drive up the hill. Where the pressure really builds is in the

:28:16. > :28:19.braking zone at ten. Last lap round he locked the rear and slid and had

:28:20. > :28:27.a locking of the front tyre. That will be in his mind. He will have to

:28:28. > :28:31.brake cautious, you can see Rosberg tries to squeeze up against him.

:28:32. > :28:35.Rosberg gets a bet of a lock up and I think it has cost him a length or

:28:36. > :28:39.so. It will be the chequered flag awaiting for them as they come out

:28:40. > :28:43.of the final section, just got the chicane and the last corner and

:28:44. > :28:50.Rosberg has not quite been able to get there. What a heroic effort,

:28:51. > :28:54.what a brilliant performance by both Mercedes drivers, but it is Lewis

:28:55. > :28:59.Hamilton who takes his fourth straight win of 2014. His first ever

:29:00. > :29:03.win in Barcelona, and he beats his team-mate, to take the lead in the

:29:04. > :29:07.World Championship, what a way to do it. Under pressure to the chequered

:29:08. > :29:13.flag, but a brilliant performance once again, from the Englishman, who

:29:14. > :29:17.keeps delivering, and that psychologically was yet another

:29:18. > :29:22.blow. It is not just about winning it is the way you win, that was

:29:23. > :29:25.stylish stuff. Different strategy, you couldn't fault Rosberg in his

:29:26. > :29:35.attack but Hamilton, wow, what a performance. Daniel Ricciardo, his

:29:36. > :29:40.first podium, let's hope he gets to keep it! He was excluded in

:29:41. > :29:44.Australia for a technical issue, but he has given wonderfully well here

:29:45. > :29:50.today, a fully deserved third place for Daniel Ricciardo and, to follow

:29:51. > :29:55.him home in fourth position, we are just waiting to see, it will be his

:29:56. > :29:58.team-mate Sebastian Vettel from 15th on the grid. David, is this the

:29:59. > :30:04.result he needed to really pick his season up? Well, not only a great

:30:05. > :30:08.drive from 15, but as you mentioned the difficulties he has had, he

:30:09. > :30:13.needs to keep the points coming on the board, and he will be well

:30:14. > :30:18.satisfied. Fastest lap of the race for Sebastian Vettel, he finishes in

:30:19. > :30:22.fourth place. Valtteri Bottas is fifth, matching his best result so

:30:23. > :30:31.far in Australia. And across the line goes Alonso, waving to the

:30:32. > :30:39.crowd, as he enjoys... A bit close for comfort at the end, but you did

:30:40. > :30:43.it, man, you did it! We don't get to hear a reply for now, but it is yet

:30:44. > :30:49.another Mercedes win - every single Grand Prix this year, of course, has

:30:50. > :30:50.gone to Mercedes. A 26th career win for Lewis Hamilton, 18th for

:30:51. > :30:56.Mercedes. He is the eighth for Lewis Hamilton, 18th for

:30:57. > :31:00.driver to win the Spanish Grand Prix over the years, and the eight

:31:01. > :31:05.different winner in eight years. We have seen a lot of different guys on

:31:06. > :31:08.the top step of the podium in Spain in recent seasons, never Lewis

:31:09. > :31:15.Hamilton before today, and he had to work for it. The winning margin in

:31:16. > :31:18.the end, 0.6 of a second, and he was beaten by Sebastian Vettel by that

:31:19. > :31:21.same margin a couple of years ago. This time he has revenge on that

:31:22. > :31:30.event as well, beaten by Vettel - this time he beat his team-mate,

:31:31. > :31:33.Nico Rosberg, by 0.6 of a second after 66 laps of intense

:31:34. > :31:37.motorsport. Well, wonderful, wonderful stuff. Let's just see what

:31:38. > :31:46.kind of reaction we get from both of these drivers.

:31:47. > :31:51.The steering wheel comes off, Rosberg out of his car already. He

:31:52. > :31:58.removes the headrest, Lewis Hamilton. And what a feeling it must

:31:59. > :32:05.be, Rosberg, though, you have got to feel for the guy. Catching in that

:32:06. > :32:10.last stint, but just running out of time and space. Lewis Hamilton

:32:11. > :32:21.always had just enough of an answer. And now he can enjoy the moment.

:32:22. > :32:32.It is quite a muted response initially. Pretty conscious of the

:32:33. > :32:37.pressure for the entirety of the Grand Prix, and at this stage, race

:32:38. > :32:43.five, victories are expected, it is just a question of which of the

:32:44. > :32:47.drivers is going to get it. The confidence is so strong with Lewis

:32:48. > :32:51.Hamilton at the moment, the only trashy has is into the camera. He

:32:52. > :32:56.kept the car on the road throughout that Grand Prix. -- the only crash

:32:57. > :33:00.he has. All the time we sing how difficult the cars are to drive, but

:33:01. > :33:05.having said that, the Mercedes looks easier to drive than some of the

:33:06. > :33:08.others! They will check the drivers' weight, which is combined

:33:09. > :33:12.with the weight of the car as it goes through the scrutineering

:33:13. > :33:15.process later in the day. Nico Rosberg has lost the championship

:33:16. > :33:21.leader that he has held since the first race of the season. The

:33:22. > :33:29.momentum is definitely with this man now. 100 points for Hamilton, 97 for

:33:30. > :33:30.Rosberg. And they have got double what Alonso has achieved so far this

:33:31. > :33:48.year. Everyone lost in their thoughts

:33:49. > :33:54.right now. Daniel Ricciardo joining the pre-podium room. Well, he

:33:55. > :33:57.experienced this in Australia to a massive reaction from the crowd, but

:33:58. > :34:03.only to have the results taken away from him. But in the constructors'

:34:04. > :34:11.championship, Red Bull, of course, scoring very well.

:34:12. > :34:35.It is very quiet, isn't it? Very little going on! A different

:34:36. > :34:38.reaction, remember Bahrain? After that... I think they can all be

:34:39. > :34:43.proud of their performances, it was a spirited... Different strategies,

:34:44. > :34:49.but Nico, a strong performance, Lewis has just been on form, crucial

:34:50. > :34:55.for qualifying, the chairman of the board of Daimler, making his journey

:34:56. > :34:59.home to Stuttgart a lot easier. Indeed, and this is what Mercedes

:35:00. > :35:03.have been hoping for a long time, of course. When they decided to come

:35:04. > :35:08.back to Formula One not just as an engine supplier but as a constructor

:35:09. > :35:12.in 2010, they took over the Brawn team, of course, and there was huge

:35:13. > :35:16.expectation on the team. There have been times when Mercedes have

:35:17. > :35:21.dominated Grand Prix racing, before it was Formula One, in the 1930s,

:35:22. > :35:25.and again in the 1950s. But my goodness, they seem to be setting up

:35:26. > :35:28.a whole new era of domination, don't they? Daniel Ricciardo out on the

:35:29. > :35:34.podium, and he can enjoy this one, great drive from him today. Nico

:35:35. > :35:39.Rosberg fought throughout, started second, did not quite make the best

:35:40. > :35:43.start, couldn't get in front of Hamilton through the first corner.

:35:44. > :35:47.And Hamilton led all the way to record yet another victory this

:35:48. > :35:55.season. It is his fourth win in five races.

:35:56. > :37:43.Well, it might be something we are becoming accustomed to this year,

:37:44. > :37:49.but it still feels very special. The trophies to be handed out, and Lewis

:37:50. > :37:52.Hamilton, the winner here in Spain, a fourth straight win of the

:37:53. > :37:57.season, putting him to the top of the points standings for the first

:37:58. > :38:01.time in nearly two years after Canada 2012, he did briefly lead the

:38:02. > :38:06.world championship. But now he is three points head of his team-mate.

:38:07. > :38:12.Mercedes, once again, have just been the dominant force this weekend. No

:38:13. > :38:16.other team has really been able to get close, although interestingly

:38:17. > :38:19.Sebastian Vettel setting the fastest lap in the race on a different

:38:20. > :38:26.strategy. He went for a new set of tyres when the car was light, and

:38:27. > :38:30.Mike Elliott, for Mercedes, has picked up the constructors' Trophy.

:38:31. > :38:33.Nico Rosberg, another second place. If you told them at the beginning of

:38:34. > :38:37.the year he would have a whole string of second place is, I'm not

:38:38. > :38:41.sure how we would have felt. It would have been all right if someone

:38:42. > :38:45.else was winning, but not his team-mate! And Daniel Ricciardo, he

:38:46. > :38:49.takes third place, and let's hope you can hold onto it this time! I

:38:50. > :38:57.doubt if there will be any technical issues to take him out that

:38:58. > :39:01.position. Celebration time in Spain. Lewis Hamilton is conquering beaks

:39:02. > :39:04.that have been missing from his collection this year - Malaysia was

:39:05. > :39:09.one, Bahrain and other, and now Spain as well. The biggest of all,

:39:10. > :39:11.his second world championship, is right on target, and he is going to

:39:12. > :39:31.enjoy the moment here. Hamilton with astounding record

:39:32. > :39:34.throughout this year, just that one race that he has not won, and of

:39:35. > :39:38.course he didn't finish that race, so he didn't have the chance, the

:39:39. > :39:42.car packing up on him in the early laps of the Australian Grand Prix.

:39:43. > :39:46.But every time he has finished a Grand Prix, he has won it, and that

:39:47. > :39:53.has to be tough for his team-mates to take.

:39:54. > :39:59.So we are going to hear from the drivers, of course, as ever, and I'm

:40:00. > :40:08.glad to say that up on the podium to do the interviews it is going to be

:40:09. > :40:14.our very own Eddie Jordan. Hola, Barcelona! Hola! What a great race,

:40:15. > :40:20.what a great finish. He is coming down to join me, I am going to sit

:40:21. > :40:27.there. Lewis Hamilton, four race wins in a row, let's hear it for

:40:28. > :40:31.him! How are you doing? Not bad, thanks. My team have done an

:40:32. > :40:35.incredible job this year, I am really happy with the support I have

:40:36. > :40:38.added Spain, it is the best I have ever had, so thank you, everyone in

:40:39. > :40:43.the grandstands. It means a lot to me, my first win in Spain, it means

:40:44. > :40:47.everything. We heard you grumbling or not quite happy with your team

:40:48. > :40:52.about the graining and also about the time lost in the pits, tell me,

:40:53. > :40:56.were you upset? No! Not for the pits, I was not fast enough today.

:40:57. > :41:02.Nico was quicker, I struggled a lot with the balance and really has to

:41:03. > :41:05.rely on my engineers a lot more to give me the gaps and find time where

:41:06. > :41:10.I could. And also, with all my settings, I was moving them up and

:41:11. > :41:15.down trying to find extra time, but Nico was generally quicker this week

:41:16. > :41:17.in. Fortunately, I was able to keep him behind. I need not tell

:41:18. > :41:25.everyone, but you have taken over the lead in the championship. Ladies

:41:26. > :41:29.and gentlemen, Lewis Hamilton! Nico, what a fantastic fight, just like

:41:30. > :41:34.Bahrain, right at the end, how many laps did you need to pass him? I

:41:35. > :41:39.think one more, to be honest! I could have given it a good go. I was

:41:40. > :41:43.not close enough there, but next lap I would have. Unfortunately, that

:41:44. > :41:47.was it, so a bit gutted, but second place, still close in the

:41:48. > :41:51.championship, and many more races to go. I need not remind you or anybody

:41:52. > :41:57.else, you have been on this podium every race this season so far, going

:41:58. > :42:03.to your home race, Monaco, surely you can't make a massive effort for

:42:04. > :42:05.there. Definitely, I will be going one better there, trying to come

:42:06. > :42:09.first and repeats the win from last year. That is the aim, we will see

:42:10. > :42:14.if it works out. For those of you who don't know, Eddie is my 1

:42:15. > :42:19.favourite neighbour in Monaco! I do not think they needed to know about

:42:20. > :42:22.that! I will leave you with my neighbourly friend, and we are going

:42:23. > :42:25.to have young Australian superstar, the man who has lit up this season

:42:26. > :42:34.so far from the rookie point of view, Daniel Ricciardo! Hola! I

:42:35. > :42:39.don't want to be doom and gloom here, but you were 50 seconds

:42:40. > :42:44.behind, what were you going to do to catch these guys up?! Thanks! I

:42:45. > :42:48.thought I would bring you back down to reality a little bit you are

:42:49. > :42:54.right, they were a long way ahead, so I think you know, coming into the

:42:55. > :42:59.race, we knew a boring race would be a good one. We knew we did not have

:43:00. > :43:03.the pace for Mercedes, we looks like a third-place car, and that is what

:43:04. > :43:06.it was. We had a pretty comfortable third place, and we just have to

:43:07. > :43:11.focus on getting the tyres to last two stops, and that was it. Really

:43:12. > :43:17.nice to be on the podium, I am sure I will get to keep it this time! I

:43:18. > :43:21.am very hopeful that he will. We were all disappointed in Australia,

:43:22. > :43:25.ladies and gentlemen, a round of applause, please, Daniel Ricciardo

:43:26. > :43:35.has enlivened the championship this year! Thank you, cheers. I thought

:43:36. > :43:40.you two were neighbours, no? Yes! I am neighbours with him. We won't go

:43:41. > :43:45.into all of that carry on, but look, are you surprised with the

:43:46. > :43:48.dominance? A lot of people call into question your idea of coming to

:43:49. > :43:51.Mercedes 18 months ago, had you got this in the back of your mind, that

:43:52. > :43:56.this was the potential that was being told to you? Yeah, man,

:43:57. > :44:00.sitting down with Ross at my mum's house at the kitchen table, this is

:44:01. > :44:05.the idea that I was given, and I truly believed it would happen, but

:44:06. > :44:09.I have never imagined having a 50-second gap to Red Bull in the

:44:10. > :44:13.race. An exceptional job from the team, I feel truly blessed to be

:44:14. > :44:17.part of this team, to be contributing, getting the results. I

:44:18. > :44:25.mean, this is our fourth 1-2 together, it is just unreal. The pit

:44:26. > :44:32.lane is thronged with people. We are so happy for you, we need the

:44:33. > :44:37.support. Thank you for coming out. Thank you at home. We have lots of

:44:38. > :44:45.exciting racing remaining for the year. Barcelona thank you. Five out

:44:46. > :44:46.of five for Mercedes. Silver arrow steamroller is crushing the

:44:47. > :44:53.opposition. Well, arguably we had to wait for

:44:54. > :44:58.the last ten laps to get the blood racing but it certainly was

:44:59. > :45:01.summering. What a fascinating Grand Prix that turned out to be.

:45:02. > :45:06.Interesting conversation and chat between Eddie and Lewis, sitting

:45:07. > :45:09.there, with Ross talking about the Championship, and, you know, it is

:45:10. > :45:14.so different. Ross isn't here, but Lewis, wow, he is in such fine form

:45:15. > :45:17.season he. It is interesting. It is really, well I find it very

:45:18. > :45:20.interesting he decided to mention rotsds there, because we heard

:45:21. > :45:25.before, that -- Ross, because Nicky spent time with him in the Singapore

:45:26. > :45:28.Grand Prix and went out with an issue, so maybe it was Ross who

:45:29. > :45:32.built all the foundations of the trust that he could make the move,

:45:33. > :45:38.to Mercedes and have a winning car and it was Nicky that was needed to

:45:39. > :45:44.massage it across the line. It was a fascinating race. You have to feel

:45:45. > :45:48.for Nico Rosberg, just trying to balance that, keeping the tyre,

:45:49. > :45:51.saving the tyre, racing your team-mate and Massa walking past

:45:52. > :45:54.there, it must be difficult in his shoes at the moment. He is driving

:45:55. > :45:58.out of his skin, there is nothing wrong with the way that Nico is

:45:59. > :46:02.driving, he just needs to concentrate on either the start, get

:46:03. > :46:05.the lead at the first corner or in qualifying, you can see how you can

:46:06. > :46:08.manage the race, specially when you have like-for-like performance

:46:09. > :46:12.across the car, that is where Lewis has been supreme. He is finding a

:46:13. > :46:15.way to deliver the lap time, even when he hasn't been happy with the

:46:16. > :46:19.balance of the car. We saw towards the end of the race he was asking

:46:20. > :46:25.for information from his engineers, it looks like Nico was more

:46:26. > :46:29.comfortable round the race track. That will be very tough for Nico to

:46:30. > :46:32.reflect on, that said, he has been quick in the last sector, this is

:46:33. > :46:38.Barcelona, the next race is home race in Monaco, both of their home

:46:39. > :46:41.race, he has a chance to try and pull back that momentum. Shall we

:46:42. > :46:46.look at at last lap again? This was something else. There are a lot of

:46:47. > :46:51.people shouting at the TV, we certainly were. . What was

:46:52. > :46:55.impressive. They were surprised how quick Raikkonen got out of the way.

:46:56. > :47:00.The psychological battle for the two, Lewis knows there is key areas

:47:01. > :47:05.of the track where he doesn't need to stress so much. Turn three, he

:47:06. > :47:10.needs to drive it nice and tidy. He will be glancing in his mirrors,

:47:11. > :47:16.making sure he gets to key braking areas of the track spot on. Gets a

:47:17. > :47:20.good drive off four, five is a potential difficult area. He is not

:47:21. > :47:23.under any pressure, New Labour he is thinking about is turn nine. Of

:47:24. > :47:28.course he has to get through six and ten and the kink in eight. But where

:47:29. > :47:32.he can get it wrong, it is as we start to rise up the hill here,

:47:33. > :47:38.seven, eight. Nine, this is where Nico enters the second of the DRS

:47:39. > :47:44.zones, and he comes out of there. DRS wide-open but he was comfortable

:47:45. > :47:47.on the run down to ten. Could afford the brake early and Nico locked up

:47:48. > :47:54.and it was effectively all over. It was never going to be a case of

:47:55. > :48:02.being able to do anything. By this point, bar making as by mission take

:48:03. > :48:07.he has won. Tyre, we haven't talked about them much but they played a

:48:08. > :48:13.big part in strategy: This is the second race where we have seen

:48:14. > :48:17.Mercedes start both cars on the same tyre then change one. In one way it

:48:18. > :48:22.takes the pressure off each driver to have a direct comparison at that

:48:23. > :48:26.particular phase of the Grand Prix, but it puts them under tremendous

:48:27. > :48:30.pressure within the engineering groups to manage the information and

:48:31. > :48:35.how they pass it back and forward. The team are handling that well. The

:48:36. > :48:40.drivers are doing a great job. It is easy to applause people when they

:48:41. > :48:45.are doing very well and win, it is the manner they are winning that is

:48:46. > :48:51.exceptional. We saw Kimi, a glimpse of the old Kimi, we saw him back,

:48:52. > :48:55.battling with Alonso, but Alonso took him in the end. Different

:48:56. > :49:00.strategies again, Alonso in a three spot -- stop, as much as Raikkonen

:49:01. > :49:03.tried to defend he wasn't able to handle the difference in pace. This

:49:04. > :49:07.is a positioner coming out of two into three, and in the end Fernando

:49:08. > :49:14.was able to effect on the pass down into four. I take a lot of heart, if

:49:15. > :49:18.I was in the Raikkonen side, he has looked more comfortable with the

:49:19. > :49:24.car. He has been coming from behind. That was a strong performance. Let

:49:25. > :49:28.us hear from Fernando. When you got the new bootings on you were able to

:49:29. > :49:36.make places up to the end. Sum up your race for us? It was tough.

:49:37. > :49:41.Nothing surprise us. Not confidence with the balance, we are struggling

:49:42. > :49:48.the start, we didn't make any place tons first corner, we have been on

:49:49. > :49:52.traffic, 90% of the race, the end we tried to, that there was a different

:49:53. > :49:58.strategy, I stopped one % time to cover that, but it was not enough,

:49:59. > :50:02.he was too quick and at the end it didn't work. Does the Ferrari feel

:50:03. > :50:08.that the updates is progress from the one we have had for the first

:50:09. > :50:21.few races this year? We are in a similar position, we were round win

:50:22. > :50:30.minute behind the leaders. So that is too much, and it is amazing. With

:50:31. > :50:35.the Mercedes. 40 seconds to third place. It is showing us the

:50:36. > :50:40.potential of these cars. Interesting, the local fans wanted

:50:41. > :50:44.more from Fernando but they would have been pleased he ended up six

:50:45. > :50:49.but not further down the field. They need to raise their game. They have

:50:50. > :50:55.a lot of work do. They have, much was promised off what was a fairly

:50:56. > :50:58.average season for them last season. They have the wind tunnel properly

:50:59. > :51:03.calibrated, but something else is missing. We are not hearing then

:51:04. > :51:06.complaining much about the engine package, because that would be

:51:07. > :51:11.complaining about their own factories. Easier for Red Bull to

:51:12. > :51:16.point a finger at Renault, but whether it is just combination of

:51:17. > :51:19.all of those factors or one specific area, that is something I would like

:51:20. > :51:23.to try and understand a bit more of. What is the area they immediate to

:51:24. > :51:27.strengthen to give them the car that both drives are capable of winning

:51:28. > :51:32.Grand Prixes with. Do you think Fernando Alonso can win another

:51:33. > :51:36.Championship? He isn't going to do it this year unless something

:51:37. > :51:41.exceptional happens, so another year is written off. He has to be looking

:51:42. > :51:47.what the the future may hold. Valtteri Bottas Valtteri Bottas has

:51:48. > :51:51.a future. He achieved fifth. A strong race out there, ultimately

:51:52. > :51:55.just got caught by people who were on fresher tyres but you must be

:51:56. > :52:03.proud of how today wept? Yes, I am happy for us, again, ten point, it

:52:04. > :52:08.is really good. So in the points and same result overall, in Melbourne,

:52:09. > :52:13.so it is good. I think today, you know, we got the maximum out of the

:52:14. > :52:21.tyre, the strategy, and me from the car, so, yeah, I think we need to be

:52:22. > :52:25.happy, of course. It was it was a shame in the end Vettel came so

:52:26. > :52:30.quickly and there was nothing to do. But still, good points. How much

:52:31. > :52:35.better does this Williams feel, although it is different to last

:52:36. > :52:40.year's, how much better does the car feel, does the atmosphere in the

:52:41. > :52:45.team feel? It does feel better for sure when it is quicker. Everything

:52:46. > :52:50.in the team, the atmosphere is completely different. We are all the

:52:51. > :52:55.time fighting for the points, and having really close race, so

:52:56. > :53:03.everyone is pushing harder than before, so it is always good feeling

:53:04. > :53:09.to, you know, feed that hunger, some more points and we always want more.

:53:10. > :53:13.But it was a great start from Valtteri Bottas and strong defensive

:53:14. > :53:18.moves. What we are seeing is they have the

:53:19. > :53:24.advantage of good harnessing, and deployment of the power, but we are

:53:25. > :53:29.seeing the deficiencies the car generated. Who a drive day from 15th

:53:30. > :53:34.to fourth for vet. We will look at his moves in the red Button show

:53:35. > :53:37.after this one. A strong aggressive race, you made some brave moves out

:53:38. > :53:42.there and had to work hard for that fourth place, you must be pleased

:53:43. > :53:48.after all that? Yes, it was more fun than probably the last races where I

:53:49. > :53:53.had to let people buy. Yes realised I am not quick enough, but all in

:53:54. > :53:59.all it was the maximum. The start was bad, I lost the place I think to

:54:00. > :54:03.Adrian, and then I was able to get it back to the, but it is tricky

:54:04. > :54:10.when you are back from, busy first lap, then I was stuck in the train,

:54:11. > :54:14.couldn't really feel how far we can go today and how quick, once we came

:54:15. > :54:19.in, and I was able on the harder tyre to stick with the people in

:54:20. > :54:25.front, and even catch a bit, I think we realiseded that the pace was

:54:26. > :54:30.there, so after that we had the two fresh sets from yesterday which we

:54:31. > :54:35.didn't use in qualifying, and yes, it could go further up temperature

:54:36. > :54:39.road. So I enjoyed a lot and fourth was the best we could do. He has

:54:40. > :54:43.moved himself up in the driver's Championship to fourth. That was

:54:44. > :54:52.great from Sebastian Vettel getting closer to the Mercedes. Eddie is now

:54:53. > :54:58.with Toto Wolff. Did you think this was possible? No, I think you can

:54:59. > :55:04.nerve expect this to happen. Can you manage the drivers, they look

:55:05. > :55:07.immaculate today, given lap or two extra you were looking for a major

:55:08. > :55:11.battle. How would you handle that? How would you have done it 15 years

:55:12. > :55:15.ago. I have retired many years ago I think I need to get together with

:55:16. > :55:19.you and ask you some questions. I think that might be a mistake! Come

:55:20. > :55:24.on, you have been on the podium every race with Nico, that is

:55:25. > :55:28.remarkable, coming back into Monaco next week, where he won the race

:55:29. > :55:35.last year, surely, the future is very bright for you? Yes, but we

:55:36. > :55:37.must not get come play September, we are barely one forth into the

:55:38. > :55:41.Championship. We need to keep the push on the Sunday night and forget

:55:42. > :55:46.about it on the Monday night. Thank you for your time.

:55:47. > :55:52.Thank you. Let us confirm the results from today's Barcelona

:55:53. > :56:00.Spanish Grand Prix. You know who the winner is, it is Lewis Hamilton.

:56:01. > :56:02.Just behind him terrific third. Sebastian Vettel fourth.

:56:03. > :56:09.. Valtteri Bottas a good drive from him.

:56:10. > :56:17.That leaves the Championship looking like this. Lewis moves to the front

:56:18. > :56:22.of the grid there. Three points ahead of Rosberg. Fernando Alonso is

:56:23. > :56:26.third, Sebastian Vettel moves up to fourth and Ricciardo in fifth. In

:56:27. > :56:28.terms of the Constructors Championship it is Mercedes to who

:56:29. > :56:39.lead the way. Red Bull are second. Well, it took a while to get going

:56:40. > :56:43.today, but enjoy that one? I think that was classic Grand Prix, there

:56:44. > :56:47.were so many good stories between the interteam battle, he was on the

:56:48. > :56:53.edge of my seat watching, what looks like Nico had the momentum but Lewis

:56:54. > :56:57.was fantastic. You can't fault him today. We will be back in a couple

:56:58. > :57:03.of weeks time. Where are we going to be? At home in Monaco, that is where

:57:04. > :57:06.we will be be with the highlights. Eddie has joined us, it was an

:57:07. > :57:12.interesting race, we are back with you on the red Button directly after

:57:13. > :57:15.this, and by the way if you did miss our Ayrton Senna tribute yesterday

:57:16. > :57:23.it is on the website. I advice do you go and have a look at that. Well

:57:24. > :57:27.it is Lewis Hamilton who reigned in Spain today. If you want more join

:57:28. > :57:31.us on the red Button but thank you for washing the Spanish Grand Prix.
