:00:18. > :00:21.will be here, until then, good Thankfully the last of the wild and

:00:21. > :00:24.wintry weather is on its way out. Still a pretty raw night across

:00:25. > :00:28.southern areas. A cloudy start in the morning. Hopefully the skies

:00:28. > :00:34.will brighten. Further north across the country, a lovely start to the

:00:34. > :00:37.day, plenty of sunshine with a steady thaw. It will stay across

:00:37. > :00:40.northern England, a vast improvement on today's winter

:00:40. > :00:45.Wonderland. Down across the Midland and southern England, after a

:00:45. > :00:49.cloudy start, things brightening up to some extent. For south western

:00:50. > :00:54.parts of England, Devon and Cornwall, a struggle, one or two

:00:54. > :01:00.showers here, and a breeze. A better day across Wales, a steady

:01:00. > :01:03.thaw of lying snow, temperatures 8- 10. For Northern Ireland, and

:01:03. > :01:07.indeed Scotland, things turning cloudy, with patchy rain turning up.

:01:07. > :01:12.No great amounts, it might be a cloudy, drab, end to the day. Most

:01:12. > :01:16.of the rain across Scotland to the far North West. Further ahead, as

:01:16. > :01:20.we get into Friday. A lot of cloud around across the country. Thickest

:01:20. > :01:24.across northern areas, with patchy rain. Further south, after a frosty

:01:24. > :01:28.start, it will tend to cloud over, but should stay mostly dry. Through

:01:28. > :01:32.much of the Easter weekend, there will be a fair bit of cloud.

:01:32. > :01:37.Limited brightness. This is the scene on Good Friday, not much in

:01:37. > :01:47.the way of sunshine, always the threat of rain, never too far away.

:01:47. > :01:47.

:01:47. > :03:30.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 103 seconds

:03:30. > :03:35.We can't complain, by Easter Hello. Augusta National's

:03:36. > :03:41.Plantation Club have his burnished and cleaning, and the fairways have

:03:41. > :03:47.been manicured to the millimetre. Everything is again picture-perfect

:03:47. > :03:51.for the 76th playing of the Masters tournament. One of the most eagerly

:03:51. > :03:56.anticipated masters of all time. The patrons are abuzz with

:03:56. > :04:06.excitement. We have got a Northern Irishman and two Englishman leading

:04:06. > :04:23.

:04:23. > :04:33.the charge, and a Tiger firmly on the way champions do it. What a way

:04:33. > :04:46.

:04:46. > :04:50.The cast list would not be complete without our favourite golfing and

:04:50. > :04:54.Australian, Wayne Grady, and our favourite soon to be inducted

:04:54. > :05:00.member of the hall of fame, Peter Alliss, soon to be in very

:05:00. > :05:04.illustrious company. They must have made a mistake! My friend said, get

:05:04. > :05:10.the old boy Ian before he stuffs it! It is a great honour for the

:05:10. > :05:16.family. You are still waiting on your invitation, but I am sure it

:05:16. > :05:23.is coming! This event has all of the classical marks for a great

:05:23. > :05:28.year. All of the contenders are in bed hot form. It is quite unusual.

:05:28. > :05:33.Normally, nobody stands out, so we are struggling to pick somebody in

:05:33. > :05:38.form, and this year, you have got Tiger Woods, of Rory McIlroy,

:05:38. > :05:42.Justin Rose, Hunter Mahan, Luke Donald, everybody is playing great.

:05:42. > :05:46.We have the makings of a great Championship. The focus of

:05:46. > :05:56.attention has been on boardroom a call right after his slow-motion

:05:56. > :06:22.

:06:22. > :06:29.final day collapse last year -- it becomes very cruel. The green

:06:29. > :06:39.jacket seems a long way away. Augusta took a chunk out of you

:06:39. > :06:45.What are your feelings now? memories come back. It took a chunk

:06:45. > :06:49.out of me, that afternoon, but it was good. It was not good at the

:06:49. > :06:54.time, but looking back, it definitely helped me. That will

:06:54. > :06:58.hopefully help be this week. are now a major winner and a former

:06:58. > :07:07.world number one. 12 months on, how much better equipped are you for

:07:07. > :07:12.the challenges? A lot has changed. I feel like I have come back a more

:07:12. > :07:17.experienced player. Especially after having the experience I had

:07:17. > :07:23.last year. And a much better player. I have a better short game, I put

:07:23. > :07:30.the ball a lot better, which is so important. You have got yourself,

:07:30. > :07:34.little old, Lee Westwood, a clutch of UK players, and Tiger Woods.

:07:34. > :07:40.What is the potential of this week? It could be one of the best Masters

:07:40. > :07:46.ever, probably. Tiger Woods won a couple of weeks ago, he is that

:07:46. > :07:52.contract. So many men with a chance to win. Last year, it was exciting,

:07:52. > :07:57.but this year has the potential to be even better. You value your

:07:57. > :08:02.parents being here. After the US Open, how valuable is it? It is

:08:02. > :08:07.nice to have them around. You feel comfortable in their presence and

:08:07. > :08:12.their company, we are sharing the same house, it is a nice atmosphere,

:08:12. > :08:15.it creates a nice feeling. It will be nice to put the green jacket on

:08:15. > :08:21.with them here. He left here with his spirits

:08:21. > :08:27.crashed, but he returns as a major winner, a former world number one,

:08:28. > :08:36.and a better player. How has improved? He is a remarkable young

:08:36. > :08:40.man. His parents must be special people as well. The schoolmaster,

:08:40. > :08:46.the schoolmistress, the folks at home, who were there got him along

:08:46. > :08:50.the road of life, they have done a remarkable job, and so has he. I am

:08:50. > :09:00.getting tired of the commentators talking about the 10th whole of

:09:00. > :09:01.

:09:01. > :09:09.last year. Talking about the failings of all of the players, I

:09:09. > :09:13.think he is a remarkable young man. He is always balanced. There have

:09:13. > :09:19.been some great players who have been off balance, but everything it

:09:19. > :09:25.looks nice and tidy. He is only 22 or whatever. Hopefully, there is

:09:26. > :09:30.time ahead. It will be intriguing. With the soft conditions, we had

:09:30. > :09:36.rain overnight, we remember when he won the US Open, soft conditions,

:09:36. > :09:45.he ran away with it. Does this play into his hands, or my tip widen the

:09:45. > :09:49.number of chances available to win his? -- to win as? The softer it is,

:09:49. > :09:56.the easier it is to hit the fairways, the easier it is to keep

:09:56. > :10:03.the irons on the greens are. Passionate the greens. The rain has

:10:03. > :10:10.opened the field up. Phil Nicholson thinks the more experienced players

:10:10. > :10:15.will get a chance. Many people have pitched this as well we Mackle win

:10:15. > :10:20.against Tiger Woods, but that does a disservice tee some of the other

:10:20. > :10:30.players. When you look down at it, the UK can lay claim to the world's

:10:30. > :10:33.

:10:33. > :10:40.We will hear from the Englishman shortly. Looming large, Tiger Woods,

:10:40. > :10:50.after his first win on the American Tour. -- his first win in two-and-

:10:50. > :10:50.

:10:50. > :11:38.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 103 seconds

:11:38. > :11:44.a-half years. Pate is looking for a I have so many good memories here,

:11:44. > :11:51.I am always excited to come back. Most of them are now on the senior

:11:51. > :11:59.Tour. It is great to come out here, I know the course is what, but it

:11:59. > :12:04.will dry out -- course is wet. I have more shots than I did in 2000.

:12:04. > :12:12.It is a different game, the guys are much bigger, taller, more

:12:12. > :12:16.athletic. The game has become bigger and stronger. But as far as

:12:16. > :12:23.controlling my game, I am hitting the ball as consistently as I did

:12:23. > :12:29.then. Lots of winners in the past few weeks. What sort of Masters

:12:29. > :12:36.will we be in for? We have all got to play well at the right time, we

:12:36. > :12:42.have got to put together four good rounds. I have played well of late.

:12:42. > :12:45.It is still a matter of timing. There is no guarantee of that, but

:12:45. > :12:50.that is the challenge, that is the beauty.

:12:50. > :12:56.He is back in the winners' circle and back in the top 10. He says he

:12:56. > :13:04.is as good as he was 10 years ago, but with this wind, his tee at the

:13:04. > :13:09.same standard as the previous player? No. He was brilliant in

:13:09. > :13:14.2000 and the early part of that decade. But now, he has a technique

:13:14. > :13:20.he can use to get himself around the golf course. I watched him in a

:13:20. > :13:26.Australia at the Open, he's struggled with the driver, but his

:13:26. > :13:31.iron play was very good. He has an amazingly consistent record here.

:13:31. > :13:36.He has never been out of the top six in the last six years. Why does

:13:36. > :13:44.he enjoy this? There is plenty of room here, there is no rough, there

:13:44. > :13:48.is water and trees. There are no lower branches. He has a wonderful

:13:48. > :13:54.touch. I find it intriguing that the best player in the world for a

:13:54. > :14:00.long period has a dodgy knee, which he has had fixed several times.

:14:00. > :14:08.Unless it plays an important part in his swing it, how would you lose

:14:08. > :14:15.your swing? Why change it? A year ago, his coach was showing him how

:14:15. > :14:23.to chip. He used to do everything brilliantly. I think 90% of his

:14:23. > :14:28.troubled is appear. -- up here. Some of it was down below! It is

:14:28. > :14:34.great to see him back, but there is no guarantee he will win. That is

:14:34. > :14:39.the beauty of sport, you never know. Another player who reserves his

:14:39. > :14:44.best for Augusta, Phil Mickelson, he is looking to get his fourth

:14:44. > :14:52.jacket, his 20th campaign. He comes in with his best preparation before

:14:52. > :14:57.a Masters, and he has been happy to let the other's shoulder at all of

:14:57. > :15:03.the attention as favourites will stop his game can come to life

:15:03. > :15:12.around here, like when he broke Lee Westwood's heart. He has got to be

:15:12. > :15:18.a real danger. Absolutely. They seem to lift when they get here. He

:15:18. > :15:24.has had 14 top tens here, and Tiger Woods, 13. Their record here it is

:15:24. > :15:28.quite incredible. They will both be in the mix, because they are both

:15:28. > :15:34.playing well. Something comes alive in Ken Brown whenever he comes to

:15:34. > :15:39.Augusta. He will be our man on the course, and he is like a kid in a

:15:39. > :15:44.switch up again. You can feel the excitement. The

:15:44. > :15:51.crowds are out in their droves. Not much has changed. A couple of

:15:51. > :15:55.things you might not notice. The eighth green on the bike, -- on the

:15:56. > :16:03.right, they have altered it a little bet. You need to be a

:16:03. > :16:08.connoisseur to see it. It always looks green, lush and perfect. The

:16:09. > :16:18.azaleas have gone past their best, it has been warm. The crass is lush

:16:18. > :16:21.and verdant. -- grass. The action will be on its way tomorrow, but

:16:21. > :16:26.today, they are on the par three, enjoying themselves. It is Mark

:16:26. > :16:32.Davis. It is 16 years since we had a home-

:16:32. > :16:35.grown winner of the green jacket, but with so many of the UK players

:16:35. > :16:39.in higher-ranking positions, there has never been a better time to put

:16:40. > :16:49.that right. The challenge is spearheaded by two Englishman,

:16:50. > :16:54.

:16:54. > :16:59.hoping to follow in the footsteps Last year was a lot of fun. Every

:16:59. > :17:09.shot, you heard a roar. It was the loudest Sunday I have ever been a

:17:09. > :17:09.

:17:09. > :17:19.part of in golf. They got it just right with the set-up. It made for

:17:19. > :17:21.

:17:21. > :17:25.a fantastic viewing for the fans, but also for the players as well.

:17:25. > :17:33.look forward to play in this tournament, I feel the course suits

:17:33. > :17:39.me, and I enjoy it. I can see as a way around the golf course. -- I

:17:39. > :17:44.can see a way. Five tournaments in the last 14 months, I have this

:17:44. > :17:48.huge amount of confidence. I have won tournaments not playing my best.

:17:48. > :17:54.I have been able to close tournaments out. When I have had

:17:54. > :18:01.the chance, I had hit the shots, under the most extreme pressure.

:18:01. > :18:05.Majors is an extra pressure, but I am feeling good about where I am.

:18:05. > :18:13.wish everybody was playing rubbish! But everybody is playing well and

:18:13. > :18:19.winning tournaments, and it is an exciting time for golf. It seems to

:18:19. > :18:21.lend itself to a good finishes and great back nines, that is how they

:18:21. > :18:31.so to tap, so there are opportunities to make birdies and

:18:31. > :18:32.

:18:32. > :18:40.eagles, and opportunities for A lot of us are winning tournaments

:18:40. > :18:44.and it is time we want a couple of Major's. For all their amazing

:18:44. > :18:48.golfing achievements, there is one missing piece of this golfing

:18:48. > :18:54.Jigsaw and it is a Major title. What pressure does it exert on

:18:54. > :19:00.them? I think for Lee Westwood, as he approaches 40, the pressure

:19:00. > :19:04.grows. He has come close so many times. I think Luke Donald, who

:19:04. > :19:12.comes in here with the perfect preparation, he started the year it

:19:12. > :19:20.slowly, but his win at tradition was fantastic. He has a perfect

:19:20. > :19:25.game and has been focusing on this, as has Lee Westwood. When you look

:19:25. > :19:29.at the statistics, only four times in the last 26 years has the man

:19:29. > :19:37.who has been in possession of the No. 1 ranking won the Masters title.

:19:37. > :19:44.It is quite extraordinary. Augusta is like that. Rankings do not count.

:19:44. > :19:52.It is how you play. If you do not putt well, you have no chance of

:19:52. > :20:00.winning. Now, Lee Westwood looks in the best physical shape we have

:20:00. > :20:07.seen him. For you, what has been the missing ingredient? Could it be

:20:07. > :20:12.he's a short game? I don't get mixed up in all this mumbo-jumbo

:20:12. > :20:17.that if you do not win one of the Majors you are a lesser person. I

:20:18. > :20:27.can give you half a dozen names of people who have won a Major and

:20:27. > :20:33.they are not among the best in the world. Lee Westwood has the game

:20:33. > :20:43.for it, but what people tend to forget, you have to have luck.

:20:43. > :20:46.

:20:46. > :20:56.There was a film on the other night, it reminded me a of how much you

:20:56. > :21:02.

:21:02. > :21:12.depend on luck. At some point in the game, the winner will think, I

:21:12. > :21:15.

:21:15. > :21:25.got away with that. If it was easy, then anyone could do it. It's just

:21:25. > :21:26.

:21:26. > :21:36.not like that. There are some 15 British and Irish players in this

:21:36. > :22:02.

:22:02. > :22:12.You look at some of that list, Graeme McDowell, Justin Rose, they

:22:12. > :22:14.

:22:14. > :22:20.are the favourites. Justin Rose has been practising well. He comes to

:22:20. > :22:24.this event absolutely on the money to do well. They are all covered in

:22:24. > :22:30.a green jacket, but the man in possession is South Africa's Charl

:22:30. > :22:35.Schwartzel, who produced that fantastic finish. He has proved a

:22:35. > :22:41.very impressive player under pressure ever since and he is one

:22:41. > :22:47.of several internationals who could yet win another green jacket here.

:22:47. > :22:53.When you consider who of the international players might make a

:22:53. > :22:58.hit here, you have to stop with the current winner. The way in Charl

:22:58. > :23:08.Schwartzel's closed it out is classed as one of the best ever

:23:08. > :23:09.

:23:10. > :23:18.closing out. Could he possibly joined Nicky Faldo and Tiger Woods?

:23:18. > :23:23.Baps the two Australians will feature. - but perhaps. Ernie Els

:23:23. > :23:28.might not have received an invitation, but there is another

:23:28. > :23:34.South African who finished third in Houston last week. His Masters

:23:34. > :23:40.record is less than impressive. An invitation that was granted to the

:23:40. > :23:50.Japanese player Becks the question whether or not he can deal with the

:23:50. > :23:54.pressure. And look out for KJ Choi. Can he contender again?

:23:54. > :24:00.Charl Schwartzel it featured heavily at the champions' dinner on

:24:00. > :24:09.Tuesday night. An exclusive gathering. Beat reigning champion

:24:09. > :24:16.get to pick the menu and he picked up a South African barbecue. That

:24:16. > :24:23.menu has got to beat up their whips Sandy Lyle's haggis, parsnips and

:24:23. > :24:28.potatoes. The big three will be our honorary starters in the morning,

:24:28. > :24:38.but thereafter the serious business begins. Let us look at some of the

:24:38. > :24:39.

:24:39. > :24:49.keep times in which the star names will be going out. Dash back key

:24:49. > :25:27.

:25:27. > :25:37.That is a pretty even spread of the top names throughout the day, but

:25:37. > :25:44.

:25:44. > :25:50.rather surprisingly, Rory McIlroy and Mickleson Going Out lake.

:25:50. > :26:00.think it is for TV reasons. Also for the spectators. They don't open

:26:00. > :26:10.the gates until 8 o'clock in the morning. We open our gates at the

:26:10. > :26:15.Open at 5:30am. They can watch class players all day long, named

:26:15. > :26:20.players, great players, that is one of the reasons why. The drop then

:26:20. > :26:24.is reversed. So if you are off at 2 o'clock, then you are off at 10

:26:24. > :26:30.o'clock the next day. The it is a long wait for them there, isn't it?

:26:30. > :26:35.It is. Hopefully it will be a sunny day. It can be nerve-racking

:26:35. > :26:40.waiting until the end of the day. They are all after the coveted

:26:40. > :26:50.green jacket, but the title none of them want any year here at the

:26:50. > :26:58.

:26:58. > :27:02.Augusta is the winner of the Annual par three tournament.

:27:02. > :27:07.Big crowds are all part of the Masters. The players last

:27:07. > :27:13.opportunity to have some fun, play the odd trick shot, the odd

:27:13. > :27:18.celebrity caddie. Two years ago, I caddied for Lee Westwood. He

:27:18. > :27:22.finished second. Even then I thought he had his game face on. We

:27:22. > :27:28.all saw Rory McIlroy lose his mentality. His eyes were down. I

:27:28. > :27:32.have a funny feeling he has learned from that. On Sunday afternoon, one

:27:32. > :27:42.player will be measured up for that green jacket.

:27:42. > :27:53.

:27:53. > :28:00.And here is how you can enjoy the We will have all the action on 5

:28:00. > :28:07.Live and then we are live on television for coverage of a hold -

:28:07. > :28:12.- of the whole weekend's play. The final round is live from 7pm on

:28:12. > :28:20.Sunday evening. Definitely not to be missed, and the BBC website will

:28:20. > :28:26.have all the information from Augusta. Money whether now this,

:28:26. > :28:30.gentlemen. I hope it is one of our words. I know people be it is a

:28:30. > :28:38.waste of time selecting them, but I hope it is one of hours or a

:28:38. > :28:46.European. Perhaps the young amateur who does not speak a word of

:28:46. > :28:52.English. I think I am going for Justin Rose. He has done his time

:28:52. > :28:56.and his game is in good shape. It could not be nicer, couldn't it?

:28:56. > :29:00.Anyone can win. It really is pointless trying to predict a gusto

:29:00. > :29:05.because after last year with that unbelievable finish, well, anything

:29:05. > :29:11.can happen. In fact, in the cold light of day 12 months on, how

:29:11. > :29:17.refreshing it would be to review last year's action of a finish that

:29:18. > :29:27.has super sire -- superseded anything that any of us had ever

:29:28. > :29:29.

:29:29. > :29:39.The quite a Saturday morning. The time to anticipate the stories this

:29:39. > :29:47.

:29:47. > :29:57.weekend will tell. Players smiling. Relaxing in the warmth of spring.

:29:57. > :30:01.

:30:01. > :30:11.Children collecting autographs. 36 holes to play. Mickleson looking to
